    « Cheap & Cheerful »

Recently stayed here due to its proximity to the venue of a family event. We paid £67 for room only on a non refundable rate. Check in was quick and easy, and the lady on reception was very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The room was clean and tidy but exceptionally dated, bedside cabinet drawer handle came off in my hand, window frames mildewed and well over due being replaced. Bed was comfy and pillows decent quality. Room also featured tea & coffee facilities, the biggest alarm clock ever and great blackout curtains!! Bathroom on the other hand was dire, there had obviously been a leak at some point and the vinyl floor was badly marked and spongey underneath where water had got to it. Shower was hot and powerful but again dated. Other than one small soap bar for the sink, there were no toiletries. Overall, I think the whole hotel is long overdue a refurb. I doubt we'd choose to stay there again if it's remains as it is. The pub attached was well worth a visit & we would definitely return, reviewed separately.

« Overnight stay on business. No problems »

A large illuminated sign might help. It's opposite the large Tesco / Macdonalds but I missed it the first time. My room was warm, clean, quiet (despite traffic on wet roads) and the bed was comfortable. TV had Freeview channels. The bathroom worked. In fact, my only quibble was a loose toilet roll holder.

    « Ok »

Stayed at this hotel over night as was visiting Alton Towers. The hotel was ok but pretty basic I would say. Visited the Hungry Horse restaurant but was disappointed as the food was pretty bad. I ordered the deal on the pizza but couldn't eat it as it was atrocious. Waited quite a while on the food also only to be let down. I guess the price reflects on the quality of food, wasn't impressed at all with the food. Hotel is OK to use to get your head down after travelling a long journey but nothing impressive. Car park was full of what seemed to be local Ned's hanging around throwing litter everywhere.

« Decent place to stay to visit Alton towers. »

A group of friends decided on booking this hotel as keen thrill seekers wanting to head to Alton Towers. The hotel is conveniently located nearby Alton Towers being a small 20 minute drive away. Also it surrounded by useful restaurants (Hungry Horse and McDonalds) and a Tesco. Checking in I was greatly by a very friendly and helpful female receptionist which should get a pat on the back for how great she is there. Overall I think the hotel ticked all the boxes that I was expecting for it to tick. The bedroom was adequate with clean comfy bed, and all the things that you think is standard such as a kettle with tea, coffees etc, hair dryer, flat screen television. They even provided biscuits which was lovely after the driving there with a cuppa. However the thing that put me off giving it full marks is the condition of the bathroom, whilst it was clean and you see they was doing their best, the ideal thing would be refurbishing the following issues. The floor had water damage and was lifting up, the toilet wasn't bolted to floor properly causing it to wobble, the wood encasing for the toilet look cut up by maintenance. Basically looked worn out. Don't get me wrong it did the job and the shower was really powerful, it just was slightly disappointing considering how great everything else was for the price range. Whilst this wasn't a issue for us, the hotel doesn't have air conditioning which is a deal breaker for some people booking a hotel, however they do provide a fan for hot days. I would happily book this place again if I was looking to stay in the area in future. I would recommend it to people, the bathroom wouldn't put me off.

« Best Western Stoke on Trent »

Had a great nights stay with breakfast included before our trip to Alton Towers, hotel is situated just off the motorway. Hungry Horse attached had a great meal with the kids having a McDonalds (just across from hotel) keeping us all happy. Breakfast was great can choose anything from menu or continental buffet (Cereal, croissants, toast etc.).

    « Not Great. »

Stayed here for two nights whilst visiting Alton Towers. Check in etc was fine however the room did seem quite tired with various stains on the carpet, walls, scatter pillows on the bed and the bed throw. Our 12 year old was on the pullout sofa bed which was terrible it rocked about and squeaked with the slightest movement and the matteress is wafer thin and very uncomfortable needless to say she did not sleep well at all. The bathroom was okay floor is super slippy when wet and towels were very thin and old. We had dinner in the attached pub/restaurant food was not great and I had to go and ask for our main course as we had been forgotten about, when it did arrive the order was wrong. Breakfast the next morning was the most confused I have ever been in a hotel, the waitress explained we could either have the best western breakfast or the hungry horse breakfast and when I asked what the difference was it was like listening to a forgein language with so many different options totally confusing hence next morning we went over to McDonald's. Overall a poor experience.

    « Great overnight stay »

Travelled down here from Edinburgh for an overnight stay as was taking my little boy to Alton towers for the day. My little lad has autism so this was his first stay in a hotel and we were greeted by a fantastic member of staff I think his name was Chris, he was very helpful and polite and was brilliant with my son. The room was comfortable and excellent value for money. My son really enjoyed staying and I'd defo stay here again if in the area. Makes your stay a lot nicer when u have excellent staff . If I could find any fault would be the rooms very hot even with heating off but that was only a minor issue as other than that the stay was brilliant Thank you

    « Overnight stay »

Perfect stop over after a day at Alton towers great value and staff greeted us and made us feel welcome hungry horse attached excellent value for money ate dinner and breakfast inc bottle of wine with dinner for under £50 family if 3 Tesco and McDonalds across the road aswell I'd definitely recommend and return

    « Great! »

The staff were very accommodating we had to call ahead as we was going to miss the 10pm check in time, they was very helpful and advised that this would not be an issue, check in was very quick and easy, the room was clean and had great facilities, the beds were very comfy and the shower was clean and powerful, we couldn't have asked for a better place to stop over. Tea and Coffee making facilities in the room as well as a TV and hair drier. there was a restaurant next door and McDonalds not a minute walk from the hotel.

« What a surprise, this was a well presented BW hotel with great facilities nearby »

Having stayed in some disappointing Best Western hotels I was rather apprehensive about this booking, but I was very pleasantly surprised. This Hotel at Stoke East was great. Very well presented, good room and very clean and comfortable. The reception staff were very friendly and the pub next door was very reasonably priced for an evening meal and he food was well cooked and affordable, breakfast next morning was very nice too.

    « Overnight stay »

Stayed over on business in this hotel for the first time, found Staff helpful, room was ok but bed was two pushed together. Furnishings were worn and damaged in places. TV remote was dead and battery compartment sealed. No TV but was working so didn't miss much. Little things missing like spoon for tea/ coffee making facility that let this trip down. Breakfast was good with lots of choice from cereal to full English breakfast.

    « clean and tidy »

Clean, friendly and helpful staff. Close Mac Donalds if required. Hungry Horse pub restaurant very clean and good service, as was the hotel. The service and reception staff were friendly and helpful. The hungry horse joining the hotel is well priced with attentive staff.

« Great Place To Stop Over »

We used this hotel as a base to visit "Thomas Land" and "Drayton Manor" theme parks. The hotel is 55 mins away from the above. It gave us the chance to visit the Peak District also which is absolutely beautiful and this is about 40 mins away from the hotel. The hotel itself is really good, the rooms are clean(we had booked 4 rooms for family and all found their rooms great). There is a really nice diner attached to the hotel, called "Hungry Horse" and the food is quite good and at a good price too! The breakfast menu has a wide selection and this was included in the price of the room. The staff are very friendly and we would return here,no problem. By the way, if you have young children, make sure you get to "Thomas Land", it's fantastic!

« Not the best Best Western hotel »

On the plus side the room and bathroom were clean and tidy. Tea & coffee facilities were provided in the room. Now for the minus side:- The tap on the sink in the bathroom was loose and moved around when you tried to use it. The bath towels were small and very thin, i have thrown away towels in better condition. 1 sachet off body and hair gel for 2 people for 2 days seems very frugal to me. The toiletries were not replenished. The breakfast was another thing, the continental breakfast was very limited especially the fruit which consisted of apple & bananas which we had to ask for, we also had to ask for fruit yoghurt. No cold meats just cereal, fruit, croissants and toast. Not a particularly health option. The cooked breakfast was very greasy with no choice of egg i.e. only fried. In summary we have stayed in a number of Best Western hotels and i can honestly say this was not up to thier normal standard. Would i stay there again mmm No

« Stayed for one night »

Very clean hotel, but could do with a overall updating. Windows on the ground floor do not lock and took a bit of shutting properly. The fold out extra bed is a very small double and very uncomfortable, really only big enough for one adult or two small children, we had a 14 year old (6') and a 12 year old with us and they struggled all night, we certainly wouldn't have stayed another night. Cars and motorbikes were screeching round the carpark at 2am, which you could hear clearly as the windows were not double glazed. One good point was the food in the resteraunt was lovely, hot and very good value for money. Overall though we would definitely not stay here again.

« ROOM 38 - Tyre squealing, engine revving.....this is the room for you »

We stayed here 1 night (sunday night) for our 2 day visit to Alton towers. Location fab for theme park approx 20mjn drive.....and hungry horse a bonus next door (although wasn't too impressed with English breakfast, nor the waiter knocking my cup of tea over as he was putting it on the table.....luckily it only hit him.....he was very apologetic though) Tesco across the road also with a McDonald's. Tesco was closed with being Sunday but local one stop a short drive away. Boy/girl racers racing up and down the street tearing the tarmac up as such, tyre squealing, dump valves, engine revving....not good. This isn't the hotels fault but was a nuisance did quieten down around 1am so bonus ??. Make sure you get a room on back of hotel over weekend probably won't be as bad. Tesco car park is obviously a cruising meet area and with mcdonalds being close by for their happy meals well they don't need anything more do they ??. The room......clean and tidy bit tatty around the edges but pleasant enough. Toilet seat had yellow staining on underside........could do with a decent bleaching or a new one really. Shower was best one I've ever pressure wise.....come home and mine felt like a trickle, water didn't drain from bath quick enough so ended up ankle deep in water by time finished showering but worth it ha Mattress......too soft for my liking. I prefer a firmer mattress but that's personal choice. Staff......friendly enough

Great hotel for staying at while visiting Alton Towers. Great value, good pub next door and only 20 mins drive after an exhausting day in the park. Very nice rooms, comfortable beds and fab shower. Would recommend

« Excellent hotel location for Alton towerz »

We stayed here for a night before an Alton Towers visit as a family of 4 and would stay here again. The rooms were bigger than expected as stayed in holiday inn express last year up the road and the room there was a bit smaller. This best western was attached to a Hungry Horse with a good outside play area at the back and opposite a McDonald's and tesco. We didn't have food there but they have a large selection of luxury icecreams in a cabinet which we all had and was lovely. Also large tv screens. The location is ideal for alton towers as only around 20-25min away.. Here's a tip if you are staying here for the night with children visit the New Florence wacky warehouse literally 5min up the road as its excellent and will keep you children occupied, but shuts at 8pm, also had food there and was very good. The breakfast at the Best Western was also excellent, very good quality could not fault it. Service again during our stay was very good. I would stay here again without a doubt when visiting Stoke on Trent with children or visiting Alton Towers, would highly recommend. But ask for a room at the front of the hotel as at the back we could hear the traffic on the dual carriage through the windows ( windows of poor quality ) which was the only downside.

« good staff upgrade needed »

We stayed for 3 nights this week in the accessible twin. I must start by saying that Mark and his team are exceptional. It is a shame that the whole place needs an upgrade. The couple of things we told them about, the lock falling off the loo and the loo seat loose were dealt with immediately but the door frame is so twisted on the bathroom that the door wouldn't close. Screws were missing on the window lock. The view from the window was always of rubbish spilt and strewn all over from the restaurant. The Hungry Horse staff were lovely and helpful but as the only place to eat (even Mcdonalds closed for refurb) it was awful. Tried the fish and chips. All batter next to no fish. Tried the baked Alaska and, as in a previous review, the chef need to be told that raw whisked egg white and sugar NOT BAKED, does not constitute meringue. disgusting! Had the chicken breast with sweet potato and kale hash the next night. Warm chicken cold hash served with a cold chilli sauce. First morning ordered English breakfast. plate swimming in grease. Left most of it. 2nd morning had pancakes. Stodgy. Last morning cereal and toast but don't be in a hurry for toast as only 1 toaster (4 slice) for whole place and need to toast bread at least twice to colour it and that's with it on full. Guess next time we will stick to the Best western Plus hotels as in Cedar Court Harrogate. Not much more expensive and first class food. However thanks Mark and staff you are doing your best with a bad lot.

    « Highly recommended »

We stayed for 2 nights as a stopover for alton towers, having stayed there twice previously. The staff were all very friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The food & drinks were reasonably priced & the food was of very good quality. The hotel was very clean & tidy & our room was well equipped.

    « Solo traveller »

Check in staff really friendly and no fuss. Room on the 1st floor at the far end of the corridor so I'm hoping for a peaceful evening . Bathroom nice and clean with some bath products available for use (not all have these) and it's helpful if you have forgotten your wash bag! Double room and it's clean and spacious, comfy bed! Tea and coffee available TV works and freeview available No noise during the night (excellent news) Breakfast - good choice and staff friendly - not sure how much it costs as was in the price of the room All in all a decent place to have a stop over when your on the road working

    « Alton Towers Layover »

My wife, 2 boys (9 & 3) and myself stayed at The Best Western Stoke East hotel for 2 nights. We wanted a base that was close enough to Alton Towers, The Monkey Forrest and other attractions. We were very happy with the cleanliness of the hotel, the rooms were a good size and all of the staff that we met were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is next to a pub/restaurant, you simply walk through the reception door to the bar. The bar/restaurant was quiet, clean and again the staff were all very friendly. We only ate breakfast at the restaurant, the first day the buffet continental and the second we ordered a full English off the menu. The food was very good, Holly was our server and did an excellent job. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel for business people and for folks like ourselves wanting to spend a few days exploring the local area.

    « One night stay »

I stayed here for the night with my son before dropping him at the army base and it was good all round service . The room was clean and practical and we had a good value for money steak in the pub/ restaurant .My son said it was the best steak he had ever had ! ( my cooking has never been up to standard !) . I left my computer tablet in the room by mistake and the staff had found it and placed in the safe before I had noticed it was missing . They did forget to post it out but when I rang them they apologised and posted the tablet out to me and paid for all the postage and recorded delivery . Thanks to the helpful staff at Best Western Stoke East .

    « it's ok »

stayed over for a business trip for a couple of nights...hotel is clean & tidy and staff well very friendly and helpfull, the hotel could do with a refurb.. food is served in the hungry horse next door and though the food was ok it's not were I would choose a bit too cheap and cheerfull but that's only my opinion only real issue was very noisy from busy road in truth though I would use again and Mark the manager was fantastic such a pleasant guy

    « Value for money »

Stopped here en route to Alton Towers. This was cheapest hotel we could find at £40 for a family of four. The staff and Hotel Manager were fantastic (our bedroom wasn't made on arrival and the wc seat was broken - both of which were promptly remedied). The room was clean but dated, and the beds weren't overly comfortable but were OK. We had breakfast across the road at MacDs. To be honest at £40 it represented good value for money and we got what we paid for.

    « Mediocre at best »

The room was basic enough, but the noise from above was terrible. Definitely improper sound insulation. Accessing the wifi was difficult. On the plus side, the shower was excellent and there are plenty of places around to get snacks and supplies.

« Not recommended or up to Best Western standards »

The only good thing I can say about this place is the water was very hot and at a good pressure. The room was tired, the towels small, thin & well worn & a panel was adrift below the sink. To be fair the room equipment wasn`t that bad, it worked and you got biscuits with the tea tray. However I would strongly recommend you give the attached "Hungry Horse" eating ? establishment a wide berth, it may be cheap but as they say you get what you pay for !! The service is also very poor as their doesn`t seem to be enough staff as you are stood for ages to get served both for drinks & to order food.

    « Average »

Me and a few friends stayed here during a trip to Alton Towers, it was cheaper for us here then staying on site at the Theme Park. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly, and there was no issues to get our rooms. There was no Wifi as far as I remember, the restaurant was a Hungry Horse. We had to wait about 40 minutes to be seated, and had to wait in a very loud pub. I would say this hotel is suited for people visiting friends, but not suitable for children as there are no entertainment facilities, and the entrance to the restaurant is though a generally busy bar. Breakfast was a joke.. their continental breakfast was 2 types of pastries and cereal. The hot choices were just as lacking. A breakfast burrito that tasted microwaved.. I wouldn't be eating breakfast there again.

« Amazing hotel and excellent service! »

Absolutely stunning hotel, it looks like a 5* hotel!!! The staff are incredible. They are very attentive and polite and always put us first. The receptionists we especially lovely. The room was gorgeous and they'd pushed two double beds together and it was the best thing I've ever slept on. The hotel is right round the corner from stoke water world, perfect for kids. The restaurant and breakfast is good too. The spa is also good

    « Value for money »

A little apprehensive after reading some of the reviews. However, we just needed a one night stay to break up a long journey. Staff were friendly, polite and helpful. The bedroom was spacious and clean. Tea/coffee, toiletries, comfy bed and even an iron and ironing board provided. The Hungry Horse Restaurant is attached to the hotel - also value for money. There is plenty of parking and directly opposite the hotel is a 24 hour Tesco and McDonalds. PS: If you like sleeping with the window open then ask for a room at the back. Some of the bedrooms overlook a busy road.

« Basic and poor nights slerp »

I expect basic from best western at a reasonable price. However I do expect to get some sleep which we didn't get. Partly as the sofa bed isn't fit as a bed and partly due to the very very bad stamping sound that penetrated from the floor above. 1 which best western can easily fix the other I guess may be trickier. Staff were ok wouldn't go as far as very friendly.

« Does exactly what it says on the tin!! »

My 14 year old daughter and her 10 year old gym partner were competing in a competition in Stoke and we booked this hotel. It met our requirements perfectly. It was clean, comfortable and the staff were first class. We didn't eat here so can't comment on the food but we would certainly return. The hotel itself is basic from a facilities perspective but it doesn't claim to be anything else. The rooms were clean and the beds were amazing. Really comfortable with a nice thick duvet. We arrived early due to an early morning flight and there was no issue with us checking in at that time which was appreciated as we had been up since 4.30am. The hotel is 3 stars at most but if I was rating it from my experience then it was top notch due to the service, but I think that can be misleading to readers. A clean, basic, comfortable hotel that served a purpose very well. We will return.

« A credit to Best western and hungry horse »

Comfortable hotel at a price point to suit our needs, close to Alton towers. Newley refurbished Hungry horse pub associated with the hotel, unique menu and decor for this chain. All staff very friendly and genuine, very hard working. Booked a Sunday night which included breakfast each morning of our 3 night stay. Ate in the restaurant each evening with a party of 9, all meals were good with the exception of children's curry and rice which were differing in size so much so that we queried if the portions were right! Outside kids play area just the job for young ones. Would I return to this hotel, yes, would I recommend it yes Other hungry horse pubs should take a lesson from this one, menu roll out across the chain would be good and decor changes to make the place more family friendly , modern and appealing. ( no sky sports may not be to everyone's liking but it made for a better family friendly pub) Well done all the team

« Nice hotel shame about the road noise »

Stopped at this hotel for an overnight stay. Despite arriving very late the staff were very welcoming and dealt with my check in pleasantly, quickly and efficiently. Room was quite large, nice bathroom with an extremely powerful and very hot shower. Nice biscuits along with the tea and coffee as well as milk and cream. Found the heating a little difficult to control but got there in the end. Bed very comfortable but as the hotel is very near the busy A50 there was a fair amount of road noise. Not a lot the hotel could do about this and otherwise I would have rated it as excellent. Nice breakfast available next door in the Hungry Horse. Despite the road noise I would return.

« Staff let down an otherwise good stay »

We arrived very late one evening, and we knew the check out time was 10am in the morning. We therefore asked for a late check out, which we would have been happy to pay £10 for (which is the usual Best Western practice). However, the exact words of the staff member at check in were 'housekeeping probably won't get to you by 10am - so see how it goes, and you can always pay in the morning if you need to' Because of this, we still got up earlier than we would have liked and sure enough house keeping were at our room at 10am as we were leaving. (We thought if we were going to get woken up early anyway we may as well leave at check out time) we would have rather had paid extra to check out at noon and not have felt rushed. Other than this, the hotel was very comfortable and clean. It's just a shame we couldn't work out the late check out.

« Great one night stop over »

We stopped here for a night to break up a journey. Lovely big rooms with good size bathroom. Gym quite small but didn't have to wait to use any equipment, pool not big enough for a lengthy swim but was lovely and warm to relax in. We had food in the bar in the evening which was pub grub style, an excellent buffet breakfast was served in the restaurant in the morning. Not much to the local area but a very good hotel just as a stop over

« Two Night Stay In Stoke on Trent. »

My wife and I spent two nights at this hotel while attending the Funeral of a relative in the area. We were pleasantly greeted by Reception staff and allocated a double en-suite room which was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. To have a good shower that worked efficiently was more than welcome ! We have no complaints about this hotel which I suspect is used a lot by business travellers on one night stopovers. It has very few facilities and I would certainly not recommend it for "long stays". The Bar and Restaurant....."The Hungry Horse" is attached to the hotel area much in the same way as "Premier Inn" and "Travelodge" but with a Menu more like "McDonalds". To summarize, I would say it's a Pub with rooms with not a very exciting Menu but does serve an excellent Continental and full English breakfast and has first class cheerful and helpful "waiting staff", Find somewhere else for evening meals if your age is over 30. !!

« are the positive reviews about this place Genuine? »

Checked in here on Sun 20th at 15.40pm,for 2 nights. I nicely asked the gentleman at reception if I could have an upgrade as I am a diamond for life member. He replied all rooms are the same,( I found out today that he lied and I could have had an upgrade to a large room with a Sofa as well as a bed)!!. However I was allocated room 9 which is just a few yards from the busy A50 dual carriageway. I believe there were only 4 rooms occupied on the first of my 2 night stay, so why wasnt i allocated a quiet room at the other side?. I wasn't offered a free newspaper (entitled to one because of my Best Western rewards status). I was also told that my room may not be ready until 16.00pm, again because of my Best Western card I can have an early check in! To be fair the room was lovely apart from the traffic noise at 05.30am|| :( This morning I spoke to Rachel at reception and she allocated me a room on the quiet side complete with Sofa. If people looked after customers I would not be writing these negative comments! Breakfast day 1. Very Poor!! The self use toaster makes toast undercooked or burnt. The waitress herself even said "The Toaster is Crap" The effort was there, however after sitting down with my burnt toast, I had to go and ask her for some butter as there was not any put out. My full English arrived and the Bacon was like strips of "wood". Clearly this had been cooked in advance and reheated, not exactly busy this morning, I was the only one at the time in the restaurant! 100 yards away is a McDonalds' and approx. 400 yard away is a huge Tesco, so I am here for 1 more night and my options are. Risk this poor breakfast again (will they fix the toaster?) McDonalds' Tesco Or check out and go to the Best Western Festival Park? (will cost me but I will pay for quality) This Hotel was only £91 for 2 nights and now I know why! Thank you Rachel for your help.

    « Good, comfortable stay »

I've stayed here several times and always had a quiet, clean and comfortable room. Standard, average accommodation, no frills. Unfortunately the hotel is let down by the Weathervane restaurant next door.

    « Wasn't My Thing! »

I stayed for a weekend with my young son. We arrived after school on a Friday evening to find the pub attached absolutely crammed. Many outside smoking. As a mum on my own I had lots of bags, surprised not to see a lift anywhere. No help. Was given a room on the second floor that has 5-6 heavy doors to get through and a flight of stairs. Could definitely smell stale smoke on the landing on the ground floor. Do staff go through to have a smoke round the back door? Everyone stares as you enter through the double doors from the hotel in to the pub. We got a small table for two, we were told there was a 45 minute wait for food as 3 chefs had not turned in. Most kids around us were watching the TVs on the individual tables, unfortunately our tiny table for two didn't have this. We saw many customers playing connect four and kids drawing on chalk boards. We were not told where to get these from within the pub and I did not want to leave my son on his own at the table to go in search of games to do during our wait. I was keen to get from there it was so busy. Staff don't really have any clue which customers are locals & which have paid money for a hotel stay. Back in the room the free wi - fi signal is shocking, the tablet wouldn't run any apps, son was hoping to watch some kids films in the evening, they wouldn't work although connected. We spent Saturday night going over to the fast food chain across the road staying well clear of how crazy it would get on a Saturday night at the pub. Our window, was looking out to the bins, and a road. We were rudely interrupted at 9 pm by two cars parked up by the bins, boy racers! Cars revving, music on very loudly for some time. Then embarrassingly, come 3.30am with only a wall between us I was woken up by the banging headboard of my neighbours, then again at 7 am!! Not the family stay I hoped for and felt quite uncomfortable in the surroundings without the other half with me. It was awful, I'm gutted I paid for it. A bit of priority and effort for hotel customers please! Or reduce your prices

    « Great Stay »

yet again a great stay with friendly and helpful staff. Was welcomed in early as a diamond member and staff couldn't of been more helpful. local shops near by. room was clean and tidy with good nights sleep had in a comfy bed. Would recommend for like minded business men like myself or for families id recommend this hotel.

    « Pleasant stay »

Booked this hotel for an overnight stay as visiting in staffordshire. When I called the hotel direct I was given a price of £67 & if wanted to add on breakfast we could for 7.50pp the receptionist made no reference to winter deal package available where we got b&b for £63 so glad I shopped about before booking. Would suggest not adding the 7.50 for breakfast as you can get one from restaurant at 2.99 or large 6.99!! Very misleading. Overall pleasant stay. Room spacious and clean. Had a meal in hungry horse restaurant which although basic didn't disappoint. Would recommend to others.

« More than just a meal out »

Not just an amazing Upgrade i also loved everything about our first meal out here tonight from the moment we were welcomed by the Manager and taken to a fresh new eating area,it was first class service and the Mighty Mixed Grill was cooked perfectly and to be honest couldn't eat all of it, it was big enough for two ha ha.I Absolutely loved the back ground tunes they made me want to stay longer he he. and most of all the Staff are keen to please and look happy doing there work, Magical place to go and i will be returning very soon!! well done all love it!

    « Great refurb »

Had a lovely night at the newly opened weathervane. Great refubishment, staff were amazing and the food was fantastic. Lets hope the new posh look will keep the rough drunks that have blighted this pub for years away, and you can finally feel safe in a friendly enviroment.

« The staff was great. The room was just ok »

The hotel was in a good location it was about a 20 minute drive to Alton towers. The staff in the hotel were great and very helpful. The room was ok i had to share a sofa bed with my friend it was small and uncomfortable.I won,t stay hear again

« Hotel was OK, Room a bit smelly and noisey, disappointing staff. »

Although the room was OK, it smelt of urine when I first went in the room, I had to open the window and close the toilet door. The noise from the road was quite load, even with the window shut. After booking on and paying full online I got to the hotel and was requested to pay again. I explained that I had already paid online and I had been in this situation before and had to chase up the money with which I didn't want to do again. I showed him the email that says paid in full. He assured me that the money wouldn't be taken from my account because his hotel takes the money. Anyhow, the money was taken from my account and I had to chase up to get a refund. The bright side is he charged me less than, but I would have rather have paid the extra than sat on the phone or 20 minutes today.

« New kid on the Best Western block. »

Very handily located hotel at the side of the A50 between Stoke & Uttoxeter with lodge style accommodation and adjoined to a "Hungry Horse" pub / eating establishment that serves very reasonably priced food. The staff are very friendly & seem to cover both establishments so reception is sometimes unattended. The rooms are comfortable, clean, well equipped and you control the wall heater to suite your needs. The shower, over the bath, has plenty of hot water and very good pressure. Breakfast is a no nonsense affair with not much choice but they will accommodate reasonable requests I`m sure. Will definitely stay here again when in the area.

« Best Western triumph again »

We often use Best Western when travelling around the country to break a long journey or to make life easier. By using Tesco vouchers we can afford to enjoy our journeys rather than risking driving when we are tired. They are easy to find and are individual. There is always ample parking space and good food available.

« Ok for a night away on a business trip »

Located on a retail park opposite a supermarket and fast food place, it is not the place for a romantic night away. But if you are travelling and need a room in the Stoke area close to the A50 then this might be for you. The room was large and clean, with complimentary shower gel etc. Attached to a pub for a drink and food means you can drop your bag and chill. The staff were very pleasant and for under £65.00 not to bad value either. There is free wi-fi too.

    « Clean and convenient »

Convenient location to jump off to meetings around the Midlands and NW. Staff very friendly and V helpful so they make up for what is a tired looking hotel. Good clean room. Area to work is a little limited/constrained. Eat at Hungry horse ( reasonably priced) or Mcdonalds. Tesco's is over the road too. Bar and restaurant staff were great. Convenient, clean and in budget so I will use again.

« Good clean but average. »

Reception arrangements consist of telephone! Room was clean and spacious but sparse. The plus of this hotel is that the location is easily accessible, and free parking and good wi fi. No problem with noise from nearby road. It is immedietely adjacent to a MacDonalds, but the flip side is that on the day we visited there was a major problem with litter--and I mean a major problem with litter on the car park. Bins full, bi s broken open, -not pleasant Breakfast was acceptable, would describe it as cheap and cheery. This hotel is not at the standard of others in the Best Western group we have stayed in

« Perfect for an overnight stay »

We stayed here for 2 nights on as close to Alton Towers. We had a very enjoyable stay. Staff at reception very friendly and chatted to the children whilst we checked in (which took about 2 mins in total!). Our requests for neighbouring room to friends also staying (but only 1 night not the 2) was fulfilled. The room was adequate in size even with the sofa bed out. It doesn't look the most sturdy or comfortable of sofa beds but was no problem for 2 small children. The bed very comfortable and we slept well. We were upstairs but didn't hear any noise from outside or from other guests. Breakfast was convenient and not too expensive and perfect before a full day at Alton Towers which was a 20 min drive away. Will definitely be back when visiting Alton Towers again next year. Also worth noting is its location. Just off the A50 so very easy to find and not only does it have the hungry horse attached but also has a large tesco opposite and a mcDonalds next door so lots of choice for food and collecting a picnic if like us you don't want to eat in the theme parks!

My partner and I stayed here after visiting Alton towers. Have to say it was an enjoyable stay. Guy at the reception was very friendly and helpful. Room was perfect for the two of us until you notice the little things. Broken toilet seat, broken toilet roll holder, tears in the bedding, and while showering even though the plug was out the bath filled up. But like I said perfect for what we needed and the price we paid.

First impressions not good. No one on reception had to use phone. Manager arrived to assist. He was also working behind the bar and he also made up the sofa bed in our room for my daughter. Surely that's not right felt like "Fawlty Towers". Waiting in reception noise coming from bar/restaurant was bad language and there were children present. Room average. Would like to say that stayed at the other Best Western in Stoke few years ago no problems at all. Also recently stayed on the one in Gran Canaria which was faultless, very good from all aspects.

    « best western stoke »

Basic but very good. service was sometimes a little slow in the bar area but this was a minor problem. Bed settee was not very comfortable but only to be expected. Restaurant was good but being a hungry horse the menu was not very exciting.

    « Friendly Staff »

Clean hotel, very good value for rooms, drinks and meals. Staff friendly. Rooms refurbished but a little tired. Good location but near busy road - sound proofing could be a little better but however I would definitely recommend and stay there again

    « Top Marks »

Stayed here pre-alton towers visit. Location excellent, tescos right across the road. Reception friendly, room in a quiet location at the far end of the hotel, free WiFi. The room was very clean with a comfy bed. The bathroom was also very clean with a deep bath/shower, water was flowing very fast and filled the bath in about 3 minutes, i didn't expect fast flowing water in England :). Ate at the onsite restaurant, huge portions very nice, service very quick, food of good quality. Slept like a log, will stay again when back down to alton towers next year

« Overnight Stop for Alton Towers! »

A very clean and quiet hotel. Lovely rooms with good facilities. Friendly staff to meet you on arrival. Breakfast was very nice, with a good selection of choices and well cooked (for those that had cooked). Ideal for overnight stop if visiting Alton Towers as just 15 minutes drive away!

« I urge Best Western top dogs to sleep in room 16, ground floor »

My husband, I & two young children checked in here late yesterday afternoon, after a day trip to Alton Towers. On arrival the hotel staff are also the restaurant staff & are quite clearly stretched. Nobody present on reception, you have to dial a number from the phone for someone to come, from the restaurant, to check you in. Room is adequate, clean, modern & perfect for our requirements. We ate in the restaurant attached to the hotel, a Hungry Horse. Great service from the staff & great food for fab prices. Having young children, shattered from the days activities, we retired to our room early. Children asleep, my husband & I also retired to bed after the long day. 9pm the guests in the room above us returned. Being a hotel I expect some guest noise, doors shutting in the corridor, guests walking past to return to rooms. I didn't expect 45 minutes of creaking floorboards, so bad that in the end my husband & I packed all our belongings, got our children from their bed, asleep, and made the hour and a half journey home. To be fair, the guests in the room above were probably just going about their business to prepare for bed, it's not their fault. Structurally the hotel needs to be assessed, surely there shouldn't be that amount of creaking from the ceiling! I really urge staff of Best Western to stay an evening in the ground floor rooms, especially room 16 to experience it for themselves, perhaps they will look to amend the issue then.

« Brilliant for Alton Towers! »

When planning our weekend at Alton Towers, we took a chance and booked ourselves in to stay here even though we've never stayed here for previous trips and booked blindly knowing nothing about the hotel itself. This Best Western is located a stone's throw away from a 24 hour petrol station, a big Tesco and has a McDonald's just across the car park. There is also a Hungry Horse gastro/bar for you to take advantage of. Staff were friendly and efficient and offered a warm welcome. The bar in the evening was busy but staff stayed on top of things and tended the bar and reception simultaneously with ease. The rooms were spacious, cool (many hotels are too hot!) and has all the facilities we needed for an overnight stop including room service. The showers are lovely too - especially after a long day walking around the theme park! Will definitely stay here from now on when for our annual trips to Alton Towers :D

    « Noisy nights »

Stayed here as we were attending a wedding nearby and had heard good things about it. The rooms were pleasant and clean, breakfast good and staff friendly however one of our main problems was the noise from the corridor outside our room and the incessant banging of doors that seemed to go on all night. It seems like a fairly old hotel and has heavy fire doors at the entrance to all the corridors which once people have pushed through then bang loudly. As well as this the hotel doors seemed to slam unless you close them carefully- this meant on our first night we were literally awake until the very early hours as doors banged all over the hotel. There was a wedding party in who also stopped for a conversation outside our room at 2.00am, then proceeded to slam their doors. All in all fine for a stop over but don't expect a peaceful nights sleep.

    « Good »

Have stayed here 3 times on visit to Alton Towers. Rooms clean and tidy. Spacious and comfortable. Have eaten here each time, very nice meals. Had the breakfast but I was disappointed. The items were very poor and I didn't really eat much of it, apart from that a good hotel to stay in and only 10 mins from Alton Towers.

« Great stopover for Alton towers »

We recently stayed here the night before an early start to Alton towers. The rooms were pretty basic but everything we needed for the night. We had a family room so had to assemble the sofa into a bed for the kids to sleep in, which I thought might have been done before we arrived, but it was no hassle really. We were on the ground floor and could hear quite a lot of stomping about from the guests upstairs. We ate in the adjoining restaurant that evening, which was lovely. Great food and plenty of it, it also had a really good kids play area outside that was totally contained so I was happy for them to play out their knowing they would not escape. The hotel was really close to all transport routes and just opposite a McDonald's if you wanted a cheaper option to eat or just a little snack.

« Great value for money »

Stayed 2 nights on my own. Staff were really helpful very friendly and cheerful nothing was too much trouble. Nice clean room and bathroom. Very comfortable bed. Good choice of food at a reasonable price in the restaurant. Would definitely visit again.

« Brilliant hotel and restaurant »

My family and I stayed overnight at the beginning of August as we had a two day trip to Alton Towers with friends. Firstly. ....The staff were fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble. ..especially the Manager. We met our friends, who were staying elsewhere,in the restaurant. There were 12 of us altogether and we all had different meals. Every dish was delicious and the desserts were too. The staff were great as well. It was also very reasonably priced. The rooms were clean, comfortable and nicely done. My two complaints are not the fault of the staff at the hotel. The first is that the booking system is a waste of time if you arent going to book people what they've asked for. A disabled DOUBLE bedded room for an adult and their 21 year old son is not acceptable. I booked a twin. Also if you can't get a hoist under the bed to get a disabled person in and out of the bed its useless. I specifically phoned up the main booking office( Couldn't get direct hotel number) to check the bed had space underneath and was told that it should have if it's specified disabled. My son slept on a camp bed which was totally unsuitable for him. The manager did his best for us as the hotel was full and he was clearly disappointed and mortified. Secondly. .We had people in the room above us who stamped around and laughed and shouted nearly all night. The manager went up a fair few times to tell them to shut up but in circumstances like that the hotel should have the power and means to kick them out. We didn't get much sleep. I've still given it 4 stars due to the fact that the problems I had were out of the control of the hotel staff and what they could control was spot on.

« Very warm welcome with adequate facilities »

Stop off on our way home to visit friends and sites in the area. Very warm welcome and helpful receptionist / waiter on arrival. We had room No 1 which has disabled access. Good size and large comfy bed. Some little bits and pieces broken including the bath/shower tap plunger which we advised them of in the morning. Usual tea/coffee and toiletries in the room. Free cloud wifi. We did eat in the Hungry Horse next door which is very cheap and whilst my curry was fine, my husband's burger was over-cooked and even the 2nd one was not much better although it seemed to be 100% meat. OK for what it is.

    « Daft booking system... »

I'll start with the positivies, and then my reason for only leaving 2 stars; Myself, boyfriend, and 2 friends booked this hotel 1 month prior to our stay. We booked this hotel for a reason - it was close and convenient for our trip the next day to Alton Towers. The positives; The blond man who greeted us at reception was very friendly, helpful, warm and welcoming, The bar was comfortable for a quick drink (we arrived late), and looked like a nice area to enjoy a meal / breakfast also, The room was comfortable, clean and a good size, The lady who checked us out the next morning was also lovely. The negatives; As I mentioned, we booked the hotel more than 1 month prior to our stay. All was fine. Then, TWO days before our stay, our friends (1 double room) received a phone call to say that the hotel had tried to take the payment, the card had been declined, and the room had been given to someone else. So we had a multitude of questions; 1) Why was the payment taken 2 days before? Every hotel I have ever stayed at either takes the payment on the day of booking, or on the day of arrival! 2) Why was my friend not asked if he had another way of payment before he was basically told tough luck, go find somewhere else? To make it even worse, the hotel literally said tough - there was no apology on this call and no help or advice from a member of staff. As they had only given our friends less than 2 days notice, they had to find somewhere local quickly! They ended up paying £50 more to stay in a different hotel (The cheapest they could find at such short notice), all because of the disorganised booking system. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE - My friend wrote a complaint to the manager expressing everything that I have explained, and the manager (to be fair) called him and did apologize very sincerely. However, he explained that he has to make the apologetic phone call a couple of times a week as this is a regular occurance. He explained that because they use two different booking systems, their rooms often get double booked and so he has to let people down like this all the time. My question is, if this is happening frequently, then why hasn't it been sorted?! Why would you still use two booking systems when you know that this will happen?! This also made me wonder if my friends card really did get declined, or if it was just an excuse to cover their double booking mistake?! So not only did this cost our friends an extra £50 for their room, but we also had to drop them off at their hotel (about 10 miles from ours), drive to our hotel for the night (10ish miles), drive back to theirs to collect them (another 10ish miles), and then drive to alton towers (and pass our hotel on the way - another unneccesary 10ish miles) - A total of 35 - 40 miles out of our way, and god knows how much extra in petrol, all because of this awful booking system. I would like to thank the staff beacuse they really were lovely and my boyfriend and I did have a nice stay thanks to them, but with regards to the booking, how can I ever trust that my booking is safe with a Best Western hotel? I will not be using them again, that is for sure.
