"Excellent stay at the bold hotel Southport"

We had a really nice two days at the hotel, not stayed here before and was pleasantly surprised. Decor in the room was very tasteful and although the room was ‘Cosy' it had everything we needed including a fridge we could not ask for more. During the evening we decided to try out the restaurant downstairs. Food was beautiful and service was good. Breakfast served in the restaurant below and was excellent. Full English was a good size. Special mention to Lynton, who was so professional and very polite. He was very helpful and served us both days at breakfast. Anne on the hotel reception was a lovely lady and also very helpful. We look forward to our next stay here.

I had high expectations for this hotel due to the fabulous reviews, and a rating of superb on booking. Com. Me and my partner came for his birthday, I always research hotels before I stay. I could see the main problem was parking, so I was expecting to have to park of site. When we arrive there was one space left but a car had parked over two spaces, I rang the hotel to explain only to be told the car was one of the directors of the hotel, I was not happy with that at all, when we checked in excuses were in abundance. When we entered the room it was freezing, it had been snowing, when I checked the radiator it was off? The throw had questionable stains all over it and had seen better days. I also questioned the room as we had booked a superior double. The room was very small, so I can't imagine what a cosy double looked like? We decided to not complain at this point because the attitude of the staff was not the best when we checked in, we just wanted to enjoy my partners birthday. We went downstairs to the pub, a bit overpriced, but could not fault the staff. The next morning I woke up started to get ready I noticed while having a wash there was toothpaste all over the toothbrush pot, I never use them good job because when I looked in it it was full of gunge, not very covid secure! I then noticed a cup on the side of the dressing table it had half a cup of tea in it, I know it wasn't ours because we only drink coffee, I checked our cups they were still clean and untouched. On realising some one had been in our room after we had checked in and had the complacency to leave a half drunk cuppa in my room, with covid about I was fuming. I went straight to reception to complain only to be told, ''oh it was only me'' by a maintenance man. Well that's OK then!! I also showed them the toothbrush holder full of other people's toothbrush juice, all I got was OH WELL, everyone's standards are different REALLY! I felt like they just thought I wanted an upgrade. My partner also complained when we went down for breakfast this is when we spoke to Ann, she was helpful and did offer an upgrade which we refused as did not want to have to move everything. They did give us a complimentary breakfast instead. In the Sunday morning there was a very unpleasant smell of sewerage in the bathroom we were glad to be leaving. Oh just to add insult to injury one of the cleaners had a choice word to call me as I passed by. I just feel our complaints were not taken seriously and if you read most the reviews on here if you do leave a negative review you get a sarcastic comment. You need to listen to all your customers !

Firstly, I would like to say how disappointed we are that you did not enjoy your stay at our hotel, we do thank you for taking the time to write this review and will try to address all the issues you have raised, I apologize that this may be quite a lengthy response, however I do feel that all your comments should be responded to. Parking, yes, we do have limited spaces within our car park, (this is always explained on the courtesy call prior to arrival), but are fortunate to have alternative parking around our hotel, that our guests can take advantage of, so doesn't tend to cause us or our guests any problems. You have mentioned about a particular car on the first evening was taking up two spaces, we did try to explain to you, that this was a courtesy car that had been dropped off by a transporter, yes for the use of the director, who was in a meeting that couldn't be disturbed and that at this stage the director wouldn't have been aware that the car was taking up two spaces, this was not an excuse, it was fact, we directed to a car park 100 yards from the hotel in which you parked with no problem. On entering the room, you advised it was ‘freezing', with all our rooms, they all have individual radiator thermostats to enable our customers to control their own room temperatures to their own individual requirements. You mention that there were stains on the throw and that it had seen better days, we replace our throws every 6 months or earlier if required and are regularly cleaned, although if you say there were stains, we do apologize and will certainly look into this further along with the glass in the bathroom as we agree this is not acceptable. Moving on to the half cup of tea. When you went to reception to complain, our maintenance man happened to be present, he took full responsibility for this. On doing his daily room checks (I would like to say that this was before any check ins so whilst the rooms were empty) had taken his drink with him, he had mistakenly left it in one of the rooms, but unfortunately due to amount of rooms he had checked, was unable to remember which room he left it in, again agreed unacceptable, but this was a genuine mistake and he apologized profusely, the apology was heard by various members of staff within the office behind reception at the time. In respect of you booking a superior room, I would ask you to recheck your booking, as you actually booked a deluxe room and complained to our reception team on reading our reviews, we seem to give upgrades to people, so why hadn't we provided yourselves with an upgrade free of charge. Where possible we will always upgrade our guests where we can, but this is not guaranteed. Unfortunately, on the evening you arrived we were not able to do this as we didn't have any available, although as mentioned in your review, the following morning we were in the position where we could upgrade your room, but you refused. Although I am pleased that you both chose to accept a complimentary breakfast as a way of an apology for the other issues already raised. The following morning you have mentioned the smell of sewerage, I am disappointed that this wasn't mentioned to any members of staff at any time of your stay. This is not anything that has ever been raised before and on checking the room and bathroom have not been able to come up with anything. You mentioned that you chose our hotel through recommendation from your ‘boss' and the reviews we have already received. You even went on to say they must all be ‘fake', I'm sorry so was the recommendation from your ‘boss' also fake'? I'm sorry to have to say this and you might say this is a ‘sarcastic comment', but we feel that we should be able to also defend ourselves where required. I can assure you that all complaints are taken seriously, hence why we answer every review we receive. We welcome all reviews, whether positive or negative as this helps us to learn and improve. We do however feel that when comments that are raised are not justified, we should be able to respond to them in a truthful and honest way. Regards, All the team

Visited the Bold on a Sunday afternoon. Decided to have the carvery. Good choice of meats and can particularly recommend the roast beef which was perfectly cooked stll pink and tender. Excellent choice of vegetables including dauphinoise potatoes, roast parsnips, peas, carrots, broccoli to name but a few! Service was excellent with lovely waitress Charlotte and Ellie. Just back from a lovely couple of days stay at The Bold,lovely room on the front,although if you want a quieter room,stay at the back of the hotel,busy road and music was on quite late with the odd couples argument outside thrown in LOL,the staff couldn't have been more helpful and a big shout out for Louis in the bar,restaurant,what a lovely happy,smiley girl,nothing was too Much trouble for her,food was gorgeous as well and close to everything,a return visit is on the cards.

We have just returned from the New Years Eve Jersey Boys Tribute Act function which was fabulous! Excellent food, excellent efficient service, great bar staff, fabulous entertainment! As first time visitors to Southport we were very pleased with the Bold hotel. it is ideally located on the main street and within easy walking distance of the local attractions including the promenade.. We had a family gathering here for nine people. All the rooms were spotless and the beds very comfortable. An excellent choice on the breakfast menu and the food was served quickly by really attentive staff. A great hotel to stay in. Highly recommend it. There's also a car park minutes away which charges £3 for all day parking. We paid £6 leaving the car overnight then spending the following day in the town.

Stayed a few days with friends as a break before Xmas Really impressed with this hotel Beautifully decorated throughout with great staff in all departments The bedrooms are lovely with everything you'd expect We had a very slight problem in the room but was quickly and professionally dealt with by Anne in reception within minutes of speaking to her Bar staff friendly and Sonia who cleaned our room was lovely The breakfasts are excellent with a good choice of hot and cold food We had the carvery in the evening which was really good too Would definitely recommend The Bold if staying in Southport

Checked in with a lovely warm welcome with Wendy on reception . We received a complimentary upgrade also which was very nice . The staff are really friendly and the Bold Hotel is probably one of the best hotels in Southport. The Bold itself has memorabilia of Red Rum and other famous horses and races . Lovely and clean also . Highly recommend.

"Poor staff communication"

Our room change due to poor standard of the first room was obviously not communicated with other staff as another guest entered our room! We were only staying one night but were disturbed by housekeeping in the morning over an hour before check out! The room was nice and clean however the blinds were broken, did not close properly, the tv aerial had issues and the water pressure of the shower was appalling. The shower head did not fit in the holder also, it was just hung over the temperature control.

We always call in here to have a drink and a catch up with friends. The staff are very friendly and are always helpful. We decided to eat here the food was excellent. We had fish and chips, gammon and I had a a sandwich from the carvery which we all enjoyed.

"Beautiful room and Wendy saved my weekend"

I contacted the hotel late on a Saturday evening as the hotel I was staying in for work had no hot water. Thankfully they had one room left and Wendy couldn't have been more helpful. She was so warm and friendly when I arrived, and the room was absolutely beautiful. Shame I was only there for one night. Wouldn't hesitate to book again! Thank you Wendy.

"Disgusting food"

Called in for a carvery at dinner time twelve o'clock today and the food was disgusting obviously left overs from Sunday night food stale not fresh and cold. Supposed to be roast potatoes hard as rocks meat totally dried up. The quality of a meal should be freshly cooked everytime before it is put onto the pass and more so if it is at twelve o'clock sitting. We have been before but we will.never go again.

"Noisy pub food!"

We had a meal in the bar, the place looks good but the food was a let down. It was only pub food to be honest but restaurant prices. The staff didn't seem to be trained not giving us cutlery or condiments. The night was also disappointing due to a group on the next table shouting to each other spoiling the atmosphere for everyone in the area. The staff played Happy birthday for one of the group far too loud. Maybe it was to compete with the noise they were already making. Not for us!

My room was upgraded on arrival the room was stunning and very clear with all you would need for the stay. The only thing missing was a bottle of water. The reception staff were very friendly and accommodating, service was excellent. Food a very good choice and service was excellent. Breakfast again great choice and the service was excellent. Would not hesitate to stay here again

Our room was immaculate, all modern,clean,fantastic breakfast, smiley happy staff. Pub downstairs was lively, but didn't effect any noise in our room. Everybody was asking if we needed anything and always happy. Definitely stay again soon. Carpark is small,but loads of parking areas behind Hotel,so no problem

We had stayed at The Bold some years ago and enjoyed it then, but it has now been refurbished and what a great job they have done. As all the reviews state the staff are amazing. From Reception to whoever, no one can offer a better service. So friendly and efficient. If I am honest I had gone off going to restaurants and hotels this past year as I found there was no pleasure with certain attitudes. So this has put my faith back. Which is a good thing. We were very pleased to be upgraded and the room was outstanding. A lovely bathroom and such a great bedroom. I asked for high floor and quiet location and they obviously went out of their way to consider my request as it was certainly everything we wanted. The food at The Bold is excellent and the atmosphere in the bar and restaurant is the best. We were visiting friends and relations for a few days and staying at The Bold certainly made our visit. To be Very Highly Recommended. One last thing, we were sent an email that suggested we could check in on line the night before we travelled. I thought this was very good as when we arrived there was no form filling etc. Great organising.

After all the lockdowns, we finally got to have our Ladies Night @ The Bold Hotel, we weren't disappointed from start to finish, Jeanette organised everything for us even accommodated Vegetarians etc… for our meals. Our night went with a Bang absolutely loved it , the tables set , the service was amazing. Can't thank everyone enough for accommodating us all & there was 94 of us. We will definitely be booking another one again , so thank you again from the bottom of my heart .

Just food and a full house of carveries. Standard price (at weekends) £12 and Small/OAP for £10 (naively I thought OAP was a cheaper price for "standard"). Still with Covid around us it was a trip to the carvery where someone else serves you behind perspex screens. Choice of 3 meats and around 8-10 vegetables. All well cooked though the server struggled with the smallish plates. Anybody who wanted sprouts got just 2 of them!! Tasted good and the staff and venue were both very good. Served Moretti so already a good start. Had been recommended to come here and I can recommend too. Plenty of non-carvery options too typically between £10 and £17. Limited on-site parking.

Fantastic hotel in Southport. This was not my first visit and it won't be my last. The hotel rooms are modern , clean and have everything you need. The breakfast was excellent with a large selection to choose from. My evening meal was very good I had a Carvery but they do also have a lengthy selection of other meals. What really stands out are the staff. So friendly and helpful. I certainly will be back.

we had our small intimate wedding meal at the bold 2 weeks ago, following our wedding ceremony at Southport Town Hall. The staff at the bold were absolutely brilliant. The service was first class, the food was outstanding. We booked two rooms, accommodation was very good, very comfortable rooms. The breakfast was extremely good and the man waiting on at breakfast was very attentive. The bold is our go to place when visiting southport and it has never disappointed us ! Thank you to all the staff for looking after us on our special day.

My husband and I were without water in our home and needed a quick night away. We had stayed previously at The Bold and loved it and thought, that's the place to go! I'm a travel agent and somehow had booked the wrong hotel and booked The Lord Street Hotel instead of the Bold. When we arrived at the Bold, Wendy was so very kind and advised that we were actually booked across the street! We would have been OK to go across the street but told her how much we loved The Bold so she was able to switch our stay for us and give us a lovely room. That is what customer service is all about. Kind, helpful and definitely a lifesaver after a few days without water!! Thank you Wendy and the lovely staff at The Bold! I'm from the US and when family comes to stay, there will be no other place for them but The Bold!

We wanted a Central Southport hotel, close to the station in case we needed to go into Liverpool. The room was comfortable and the fittings modern, unlike some older hotels in Southport where not all the rooms have shaver points, with good quality ingredients in the breakfast offering and a pleasant restaurant menu also available.

Went to the hotel for a sunday lunch medium size carvery at £12 per head was very disappointed the veg were so hard you couldn't get your fork into and the gravy was like wall paper paste also cold plates so will not be returning.

We had a lovely lunch at The Bold Hotel for my Dad's birthday. The service was excellent throughout and the food was perfect. Nothing was too much trouble and every request was met with a smile (we have a baby). Special mention of Jack who picked up it was my Dad's birthday and surprised us all with a cake and sparkler. This meant so much to him, we have recently had some bad news about his health and it was lovely to see him happy. Well done to the team. We will be back soon x

Well situated and very clean modern hotel. Bedroom was immaculate and spacious enough. Staff from start to finish were helpful welcoming and attentive. A very happy atmosphere and we were well looked after during our visit. Breakfast and dinner were good with an extensive menu to choose from. Great value for money and definitely a place all of us would return to again.

"Amazing Sunday lunch."

We are regulars at the Bold, usually for drinks. But decided to try out the carvery for Sunday lunch and take our family. We weren't disappointed. A choice of 3 meats and several different delicious vegetables and 3 kind of potatoes. Yorkshire puddings were the size of saucers and the whole meal was absolutely delicious. A choice of 3 different size plates and definitely worth the price of the meal. Staff at the Bold have always been polite and helpful and todays visit was no different. Special mentions to Chloe and Ross who were attentive and very pleasant!

"Lovely smart restaurant"

Went here for drinks and ended up coming back for a meal. It's a great modern restaurant, helpful and friendly staff and the food was great, infact we came back the following day for breakfast which again was a pleasant experience. Also dog friendly which is perfect for our little daschund! If we ever visit southport again we will return and even stay in their hotel as I can only assume this would also be great!

"Short break in Southport"

We were welcomed to the hotel by Anne and Louise the friendly receptionist's Location of hotel was excellent, on Lord street ,short walk to pier and attractions, Room was clean and tidy and bed was very comfortable, room would benefit with air conditioning as it was facing the sun and got quite warm throughout the day . Hotel had a bar/restaurant which was available to non residents, food was very good and no shortage of it, only problem we had was that the constant music was a bit loud. Car park is very limited but we were told that the hotel had an agreement to use another car park close by. All staff were very friendly and helpful, all in all a very good 2 day break.

"Evening meal for Hymer Motorhome Club"

We had booked a meal for 56 people in the banqueting suite. The staff couldn't have looked after us any better, from my initial enquiry to the evening of the event. The room was beautifully presented and the service was very slick and professional. Most of all, the meals were of the highest quality enjoyed by everyone. Had a two night stay in the superior king room. Excellent room. Lovely large room well furnished with en suite. Everything was clean, tidy and well presented. Lovely soft towels along with dressing gowns. Breakfast was a choice of continental, full English or both and was tasty and plentiful. The hotel in general is a well presented building with a well stocked bar. Staff were always welcoming and friendly. Parking at the hotel is limited to a small number of spaces. We arrived early in the day and didn't have trouble getting a space. All in all, we had a great stay and enjoyed ot very much.

Stayed at The Bold last weekend with group of friends. The room was lovely and clean, the staff were so helpful and the food was delicious. The reception staff were excellent and so friendly too. Love this hotel, the drinks are not extortionate prices and there's a real buzz to the place. Lovely seating area outside and a great place to people watch. We will be back!

We took breakfast here from the Lord Street Hotel opposite. Full breakfast was included in our room rate. The two establishments are sister hotels. We were very impressed by all the staff we met on both mornings we ate there, This is a young team who are courteous and professional and look very happy at their work. What clean loos too! Fabulous. We had croissants from the buffet and full English on day one and on the second day my husband had a breakfast barm and I had poached eggs with avocado and tomatoes on bloomer. It was all tasty, delicious and very well served. My poached egg dish was the favourite. The dining room is bright and clean and has a racing theme. We would certainly return. Thanks to the team and sorry for being unable to name names.

"Nice but forgettable"

This review is difficult to write as there was a mix of experiences during our stay. Some staff were absolutely excellent and were brilliant in their approach, particularly the hotel reception staff, the senior restaurant staff and some of the younger waiting staff, but other staff, possibly new to the team lacked detail. They were not fulfilling orders, were not looking out for people trying to catch their attention, and most importantly not up-selling. We could have easily bought more drinks if there had been that attention and I didn't hear them offer sweets to anyone. How much money is that lost overall? The room was well decorated and bed very comfy with great pillows. Again some details lacking, like our room still had the previous occupants' dressing gowns in them that had been used, a shelf missing in the wardrobe area meaning lost hanging space, and a lack of explanation on how to actually get the bathroom mirror on. The room.and general decor of the hotel was lovely overall. The breakfast was delicious but the evening food did not match the standard at all. It was mediocre at best. Poor and unimaginative vegetarian options. It was suffice but completely and utterly forgettable, as were the puddings. Overall the price is too high for the quality. Great potential but details lacking and they need to sort their daytime and evening service out both in terms of training newer staff and getting the quality of food improved.

You can imagine, after this year, including the impact of the pandemic, we do have to train new staff. In which we are doing and they are all doing very well. I'm sorry to read you thought we were 'utterly forgettable' and 'unimaginative'. But I do disagree with this. The menu does state that "All dishes are cooked fresh to order, so if there are any dishes you would like to be altered to your vegetarian or vegan requirements please just ask'. In three days at this hotel and paying over £500 for the privilege I would expect to have first class food and service. This is as far from the expectations as you can get. Just returned from a much needed night away and our first stay at The Bold. The location is excellent. The Team were friendly and welcoming. Lovely atmosphere with the outdoor seating area. When my wife and I entered the Bold Hotel Restaurant, Bold Street, Southport last week, we did so as a Christian couple who do not frequent public bars, but were curious as to whether or not we could find a good meal there, so we ventured to the door. Immediately, we were met by a young, neatly dressed Floor Manager called Joe, who very politely addressed us and offered to show us the restaurant section of the Bold Hotel. The section we entered, was spotlessly clean, and divorced just enough from the long main bar of the establishment to allow us - two seniors - to check out the menu, and see if we wished to eat there. The young professional was extremely courteous and well mannered, as he sat us down in a quiet corner and explained in detail the menu available for that evening. We were delighted to discover that there was in fact a very appetising Carvery Meal on the menu: turkey, Ham, and beef; roast and mash potatoes, a choice of vegetables, and the most savoury tasting gravies on offer. With the young man's polite and courteous skills, plus what was on offer, we just could not resist having a meal there. Needless to say, we enjoyed the good food, served in a most comfortable atmosphere (goodly oldie music from the 60s and 70s) so much - the we booked a the same table for the following evening meal, and enjoyed another terrific dinner and the best of professional, friendly, company staff. General Manager Kelsie, waiters Jack, Linton, and Chole - were most attentive before, during, and after the meals. A wonderful dessert of Strawberry pie and ice cream topped off the beautiful dinning experience for us, and made us so welcome there at the Bold Hotel Restaurant in Lord Street, Southport. A BIG THANK YOU, to Joe, Kelsie, Jack, Linton and Chloe, for making this staycation couple to tourists feel so very welcome there in Southport. Well done! "Excellent Find"

Booked for a one night stay after visiting family in the area. Wendy was the friendly face behind reception and immediately made us feel welcome. She directed us to local car parking that was secure and at a good price as there is limited on site parking. Room was comfortable with everything we needed and a nice bathroom, although water pressure was a bit low! Excellent breakfast choice served by efficient friendly staff. Will definitely stay again.

Went for a run to Southport stopped for lunch lovely looking hotel inside & out greeted as soon as we sat down took our drink order. We stayed at the The Lord Street Hotel had breakfast here absolutely lovely with lots of tea and coffee. I did mention like my tea, breakfast bit warmer got all sorted. We visited here for a meal on a weekday afternoon. We sat outside and ordered drinks and food. Waiting staff were quick enough to take payment for the food but that was the only thing they were in a rush for. Food was nice enough, but for a hotel which is trying to position itself as a higher end option in Southport (and charges accordingly) it lets itself down in a few really basic areas which is a real shame. Food was delivered to table and was warm but not hot…. There was no cutlery - waited a good few minutes for the cutlery to arrive after we asked for it during which time food was now luke warm. Asked for vinegar and sauces and it didn't come until we asked again and waited for another few minutes. Side orders were missed off the order for some reason… by the time someone came back from checking where they were we had virtually finished our meals. ‘Large' fish and chips was not large… I'd hate to see the normal portion. I hate moaning and don't normally leave negative reviews but stuff like this really ruins eating out for me and I hope some simple changes can be put in place by the management to rectify these issues. Maybe it was an off day(?) either way we won't be rushing back anytime soon.

Beautiful rooms that have been refurbished, and were spotless, hotel staff were amazing and attentive to all our needs and requirements, evening food was excellent and good value, breakfast was included and choice and variety was very good. Possibly only complaint was noise from Pub across the road, however, our room was directly opposite, and this died down around 2330 hours. Reception staff were lovely, and helpful

The first impression of the Bold is the staff, without exception they were all genuinely friendly and efficient. We opted for the Sunday Roast. We went for the small option, it was amazing and I don't think they could have fitted anymore on the plate if they had tried. The generous portion of Beef was the finest piece of Beef I have ever had. This place is a gem, staff, food and ambiance. Not to mention exceptional value.

Had a fabulous 3 night stay at the Bold hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Louise on hotel reception was so knowledgeable and helpful, she went and stood in a car parking space in the rain, enabling me to retrieve my car from a disc zone. She then carried our bags to our room. Breakfast was great, a varied menu with extensive choice. We ate in the hotel every night, staff were so helpful and ensured you had drinks and what you needed at your table. Food was very good and a great menu. Will definitely be back for another stay

"Dry Start but overall good food and good end to evening"

Met up with some friends for a group booking at the restaurant over weekend. Only down side was slow drinks service to being with (only blip in the evening) but food arrived in good time and all together, good effect given the large group. Nice surprise put together by the team to end the evening.

The hotel has a number of pluses with the excellent customer service being at the top of the list with a special mention for Ann - she was the perfect hostess on the reception great smile and very helpful. All the staff were great. The room was decorated to a high standard and the venue overall is in a great location. It is never good having to write a negative review about a business but hoping that owner will may take this on board and improve services. 1) drink orders - were taken 10 mins after arrival, another 10 mins to tell us at certain beer was not available. 2) starters - nice and well presented but no cutlery or staff around to ask so had to seek these out ourselves. 3) mains - gammon steak both very dry and burger was burned beyond belief. Asked for a stake knife for gammon steak as couldn't cut through through. Waitress advised didn't have any. Asked someone else and got one. Chips undercooked. Looked to be frozen and not hand cooked. Partner eaten Yorkshire Pudding from Carvery burger, the bun and some veg. Friend managed a few bites of gammon steak then left it. Meals also came out at different times. Staff apologised, offered tea and coffee or dessert but by then the damage is done. £6 taken from bill which didn't justify quality of food provided. Looks to be a number of reviews advising issues with food and service - we wish we had read these first. We were in the previous evening having drinks and at first view food looks amazing. This establishment is not cheap but you would be better paying for a half the price meal in Weatherspoons. I think management and owners needs to support staff a bit better in order to improve food and services.

Stayed at lord street Hotel in Southport, and used the sister hotel for dining which is directly across the road. Main meal was below average, a simple fish sandwich and it was so greasy with hardly any fish, mainly greasy batter, chips are terrible quality. My son had the carvery, meat was so dry, Yorkshire pudding burnt and dry. We had breakfast included so was hoping for a bit of a better experience in the hope last night's meal was a one off, unfortunately not, the sausages had definitely been there hours or warmed up from the day before, they seem to make their toast and leave it in the warmer, this just snapped in half and crumbled. I will definitely not be returning, and suggest they change their chef.

Called in for something to eat.we we're going to have the carvery but could see the Yorkshires were rock hard so ordered steak ciabatta from the menu.had to scrape the mustard off the bread there was that much on.the service for drinks was very slow.every time we ordered a drink it took over 10 minutes to arrive.we don't mind waiting if it's busy but 4 staff n only 20 customers.on one round we ended up going to the bar asking for our drinks n they had been poured n were stood there round the other side of the bar n the girl said oh I thought the other girl had brought them to you so we refused the flat Guinness.if the service was quicker we would have had more to drink plus the wasted Guinness.the staff are costing you money.maybe better training or someone older on the shift to organise them.

I enjoy my visits to the bold over many years . the decor is great , staff friendly and polite. clean rooms , all very good. unfortunately the catering side is a different matter.catering manager in wrong job. food cold and yet parts were black. looked and tasted awful. even the tea was cold. I am sure with the right catering manager and someone who can cook it could be back to the standard I know it can achieve. hope to stay again soon with superb food? ps have used the catering on a few recent ocasions so is not just one ocasion .

The Bold is very easy to find and had some free parking spots at the rear . I am not very good up stairs so when we reported to reception on the irst floor the receptionist noticed my struggle and offered to move our room from the top floor to a room on the first floor and this was a great relief for me. The staff are so kind and helpful we soon felt very much at home. We had a light lunch in the restaurant and it was good quality the only problem was the time it took for the bar to serve the drinks. Our room was clean and fresh and we had a great night sleep. On checking out we were made to feel realy special by Wendy and she sorted some help with our case down the stairs much appreciated. I would love if a lift could be made available to the rooms but it is still woth the trouble. Many Thanks

We were a group of 8 for a 70th birthday luncheon. The birthday girl was late but the carvery stayed open until their arrival. Service was second to none. The staff were super attentive, nothing was too much trouble. For the best service and value for money go to "The Bold".

We stayed at the Bold hotel 23rd and 24th July. This is a lovely hotel, rooms are great,clean and comfortable. Reception staff have been fabulous Wendy and Louise on check out today are helpful and professional. We all found every member of staff polite and they certainly do their best for you to enjoy your stay, working very hard. The area is lovely and near to all attractions. Food is to a high standard and great selection of drinks. We really enjoyed our stay and we would always stay here again when in Southport. Thank you for a great break, my 8 year old son had a great time and loved the chicken wings yummy.

The bold hotel is a modern classic hotel .. upto date rooms , cleaned to a high standard. The reception staff are very helpful especially Wendy who couldn't do enough to help. When we went the weather was very hot , extreme heat, with no air conditioner in rooms we only had a fan , which wasn't enough to help cool room , but on asking for another Wendy had one to us very quickly.. helping us a little but room still very hot and stuffy . There didn't seem to be enough restaurant staff.. so service for evening meal and breakfast was slow ..also orders taken wrongly resulting in having to wait for corrected order. But all in all a pleasent stay .. which why a four out of five stars.

My girlfriend had boiling hot chips dropped on her which has left her with burns. The manager refused to come out for fifty minutes. Then when one of them did come out they came without an accident book and retorted "Accidents happen don't they". Absolutely no apologies from the management. Extremely disgusted.

Stayed for 1 night on the 4th of July. Louise was so very helpful, kind, efficient and friendly! I emailed regarding the parking situation on the morning of the 4th and she replied immediately. She made sure my reservation was intact and greeted us warmly. The room was fantastic! It was a hot night but 2 fans were supplied and the window had been left open to allow for circulation before our arrival. The bar/restaurant seemed a little confused. Plenty of wait staff but we waited for 30 minutes for 2 beers to arrive. It started to rain and it was a little choatic moving inside. People next to us had gone to restroom and their drinks were taken and table cleaned and other people sat at the table. Breakfast was OK. Another wait for someone to serve us breakfast. The hotel and stay were fantastic. Just need a little organization on the pub side.

There are good and bad things about our visit to The Bold. The rooms are good in that they are well looked after and well equiped. The bed was good and had good quality linen. The bathroom was good with a good shower. The pictures show how over the top the decor can be. We found it blingy and rather dark. We had a deluxe room but it was not spacious. However there is one major problem - the traffic noise. I found it impossible to get a good nights sleep. From about 5.30am onwards it was so noisy. After 3 nights I was glad to be leaving. Other hotels we have stayed at recently - both high end and normal - have removed a lot of clutter and furnishings while the covid problem is with us. They have also stopped servicing rooms to minimise contact. These measures have not been adopted at the Bold. Although it is called "Hotel" and we booked through Best Western, it is not a proper hotel. The Bold is essentially a pub/restaurant. There is no guest lounge if you don't want to sit in the pub. The bar/lounge is pleasant enough but it's still a pub. The food is good for a pub/restaurant but is limited in choice. It is not like what we expect as hotel chef prepared food. There are no specials or inspiring choices. At breakfast there is a choice of what you can have - but within limitations. This is probably not helped by the server being the only person doing the food. We witnessed a customer asking for brown toast and wes told she could have white or wait while he did some - because he was on his own. Some covid measures have been adopted, but there are improvements to be made. For example, at breakfast cerials are served in individual packets but milk is served in one big jug - so everyone has to handle it. Salt & pepper is still on the table for all to handle. I suppose this will become irrelivant when measures are dropped but covid is a problem in Southport with high numbers at the moment. After 3 days I was ready to go somewhere else to find the sort of options I expect from a hotel chef. The best thing about The Bold is its location, right on the edge of the town centre. Everything is within easy walking distance. There is very limited parking at the back of the hotel. So in summary, it is a well appointed hotel in a central location with limited food offerings but is spoiled for us by the traffic noise.

Called in for afternoon Cake and Tea,Service was Terrible and i do mean Terrible we waited 25 minutes for our order to be taken and this was only after i went to find a waitress, then waited another 20 minutes still nothing arrived so i finally found a member of staff to check where our order was she said she would check some 10 minutes later Cake arrived which i have to say was perfect however the Tea was cold and had to return it and was replaced I mean it is not a cheap place as 2 Teas and 2 cakes at a cost of £16.90 ,in my opinion our order had been ready for some time and just left on the counter or else it would have been hot,during this time others around us were also complaining about the service or should i say Lack of It,Never Again.

Fantastic meal, which we asked the lovely waitress Olivia to pick. She picked us 2 random carverys. We played dinner roulette and now we are on to drinks roulette. Olivia has been fantastic!! As long as she doesn't bring me a cup of tea,it's a 5 star all the way! Brian and jasmine from room 11 originally from Stockport were the only things to ruin the evening. Let's hope they get over it..

Worst service in a bar ever. 30 minutes waiting for drinks after 3 attempts at ordering with staff. Walked out and left after talking to waitress who said she could not find our drinks order. Plenty of bars who need and deserve custom. Staff not bothered.

Stayed in room124 in the Lord Hotel and ate breakfast and evening meal in The Bold. The superior room was lovely, it consisted of a lounge, bedroom and large bathroom with a walk in large shower. There was an extremely large wall television in the lounge and a wall television in the bedroom. It was decorated beautifully and was extremely comfortable including the double bed. The room is on the top 3rd floor with a view of the main street, The Bold Hotel and trees which are lit up in the evening....very pretty. I cannot single out one particular staff who was very good to us because all the staff we came in contact with were professional, friendly and couldn't do enough for us, including the room cleaning staff. I would recommend both sister hotels and their staff to anyone wanting a stay in Southport.

First visit and certainly be returning .Great Hotel . Excellent cheerful ,friendly staff . Tasty food .fantastically clean ( and I looked closely as its a bugbare of mine is cleanliness ) honestly can find no faults at all here . Love the area outside . The Bold Hotel is in a great location- very close to the seafront (although the sea itself is miles away at low tide!) and a great selection of bars and restaurants nearby. The staff really make the place - always friendly and very efficient, you'd never have known that they'd had a hellish year in the run up to it. Every single staff member was warm and welcoming, and we had great communication in the run up to our booking. The room was nice - cosy, but had everything we needed for our trip. A fan helped keep the room a bit cool, although we were lucky that the weather was around 20c as the window didn't open very far and it would have been a bit toasty at higher temperatures. Very comfortable bed, shower had great pressure and it was nice to have the waterfall/ normal shower options. We had both dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and the food's tasty and filling. Only downside is the limited parking, but that seemed to be the case for most hotels in the central area. Plenty of very reasonable on-street parking available - recommend you download the RingGo app before you go.

Just spent Saturday night at bold hotel, what a fantastic weekend we have had. Our room was lovely and immaculate, the staff was so friendly and the food was amazing, I would definitely recommend staying there. We have stayed in numerous hotels in southport but the bold is the best, and we will always stay there now when going to southport.

"Georgia! Wow!"

Waited 20 minutes to be acknowledged with the rest of my group (4people). Staff coming outside and serving other tables, looking over at us and not coming over. We arrived at 6.15pm and eventually we got served. We had to call the bar phone from outside to get somebody to come to our table. The food came and was spot on but the one highlight of the evening was Georgia. What a fantastic member of staff! She was on the ball as soon as she saw an empty glass she asked if we wanted more, she didn't even serve our food but despite our table being cleared, she knew we ordered and asked if everything was ok with our food. Her product knowledge was great and recommended drinks for the group, and when we said thank you for her service, she apologied unreservedly for the slow start to our evening! This girl deserves a medal and a massive well done because staff like her are hard to find! Thank you so much! Xx

Having stayed here many times in the past, it has always been highly recommendable. This times was even better if there were words to express just how good a hotel this really is. The rooms very very comfortable with lovely big beds and beautiful linen. There is always plenty of space and a feeling of real luxury. We have stayed in a few different rooms through the years we have been coming there. They are all very well appointed. There is nothing left to chance ,everything you need is already in the room . The staff are always excellent and strive to do their best for you at all times. Very pleasant and helpful at all times. I know manager Kelsie keeps her staff on the ball at all times. Full marks to her. But everyone seems to be very happy in their work. Which makes for a very nice working environment all round. Of which we the public benefit with an excellent hotel. Exceptional.

The hotel is really lovely. The staff were amazing on the reception desk as well as the restaurant Chloe and Naimh were exceptional. The food in the hotel was also amazing we did eat many times there and had a lot of choice on the menu. Our room was on the top floor and has the weather got warmer the room got very hot even with the fan provided but the room was very modern and very clean. The hotel was very close to a lot of amenities and close to the front. We would recommend and would return.

"Stopped for a meal"

Clean bar area, covid rules carried out, waited ages to be served. No prices on the menu except carvery which was ok but veggies were hard and meat was dry. 8oz rump steak looked nice but again not priced on menu so was gobsmacked at the £28 cost - excessive! Handful of rocket and hard chips with cold onion rings. Heard the chef shouting from inside the kitchen, I presume he'd burn himself but not professional. Rowdy children allowed to run free in the bar area, chased by drunken mothers which was off putting. Changes needed

"Very disappointing will not return"

We booked a table for 7:45 We were seated promptly but then waited 10 minutes for our order to be taken. We wanted the carvery burger, however we were told that carvery, meat, burgers and steaks were unavailable but from where we were seated we could see the carvery station fully stock and kitchen staff helping themselves to plates of meat then disappearing into the back area or kitchen. We said we'd have our drinks whilst we looked at the menu again. There didn't seem much else that we wanted. The waitress returned to say that the drink I wanted was unavailable. Totally disappointed that we couldn't have the drinks or food we wanted, we left. It was now well after 8pm and we had to find somewhere else to go. It is such a shame that this lovely place was so disappointing. Surely the menu should state what is available.

Dear Lee W Thank you for your recent visit and review, and please accept my apologies that the carvery was taken off slightly before your reservation, The whole weekend was extremely busy and yes, we had sold out of steak burgers and fillet steaks. but still had a wide selection of other meats on the menu, including the sirloin steaks you were offered. From a menu which has 22 main and lite bite meals on to sell out of just 2 dishes is reasonable, as this was only due to the high volume of customers that had visited us and enjoyed their meals. The waiters do inform customers before ordering if anything is unavailable. I do wish you had spoken to one of the managers on duty, this would have given us a chance to rectify the issue. The staff you mentioned are Chefs who are working on food for tables that are being served at that moment in time and are certainly not just helping themselves. The Kitchen is catering for around 100 customers every 30 minutes and the chef keep checks on what orders are already in the system, so it was decided that the food that was on the carvery was need for the orders that where already ordered. I have checked with your waiter and the drink you requested is something we do not stock, we cannot serve something we do not have a stock of. Great room but overpriced, no fresh fruit at breakfast, poor service at the bar in the evening, staff on duty seem to be overwhelmed and no system in place. Reception staff welcoming and efficient, breakfast staff friendly. Overall not good value for money.

Dear terri772 Thank you for your recent stay, I am sorry you felt your room was overpriced, when booking surely you look at the hotel and its rooms online and if you wanted a less expensive hotel then surely you would book that one, I have checked with the reception team, and nothing was mentioned during your stay or even at check out when the receptionist did ask you had you enjoyed your stay. I have looked at your reservation and the monies you paid are correct with the room and service you received, which did include an upgrade. The restaurant and bar staff where extremely busy that day, but still provided the first-class service we are renown for and were certainly not overwhelmed, they were just extremely busy. I have checked with the breakfast team on service that day and no fresh fruit was asked for, we do not put it out on the buffet to keep it as fresh as possible, had you asked they would have gotten you some. We visited on a Saturday night .. wouldn't go again with family but would recommend if you going out with a few friends. Have to say the waitress Ella was FANTASTIC! Very accommodating and polite. Your other waitresses should be more like her as not all of them were that great! My only real criticism was that the food was a bit salty .. apart from that was good.

Decided to revisit the Bold after more than 20 years! All COVID precautions in place, staff very pleasant and attentive and the food was excellent, served quickly and reasonably priced. I can recommend the Bold and will be returning when next in Southport!

I visited the bold last night for one of my first nights after the lockdown, i went with two friends and we where greeted by a lovely lady that sat us down in a covid safe area and took our drinks order The drinks and food was absolutely amazing and the staff truly took there time and looked after us so well!!!! Visited with my other half. It was a hot day and while I appreciate that establishments are busy currently the service provided was sub par. We expected a wait, however the temperament of our main server was not that of someone suited to a customer facing job. We finished our drinks and moved on.

Had an amazing day out with my work group and really enjoyed the hospitality and service the Bold Hotel provided, it was my first personal time here and first time being out since the lockdown and we all appreciated the quick, friendly & attentive service. A shout out to our waiter by the name of Brad who said he was new but could see he was giving it 100% and had great customer service and a helpful nature! "Christmas/NYE"

We were meant to be staying for Christmas and NYE. But NYE unfortunately didn't happen due to pandemic closure of everywhere. However, Christmas was the most magical time for myself and my family. I don't ever post reviews, but me and my wide have just been thinking back as we are excited for re-open. Hotel. Spotless and so luxurious. The wallpaper in the bedrooms is stunning, very classy. The bed, wish I could of taken it home. We enjoyed are Christmas lunch so much. Will definitely be returning and not cooking at home this year. My girls do gymnastics and the manageress was showing them some tricks, from when she was a gymnast. Never been anywhere the staff make the children feel so welcome. Thank you

My family and I stayed at The Bold in December and had an absolutely fantastic time. The food was to die for. I went for a festive burger and my wife went for the Carvery! Dear Robbo6215 Thank you for your recent visit and review, I have checked your booking and you pre-ordered 3 vegetarian Nut Roast accompanied with Vegetables, Potatoes and Vegetarian Gravy, Vegetarian stuffing was not mentioned, this was something you asked the Chef at the carvery to do for you, he did inform you that this would not be a problem but would be about 10 minutes and due to other members of your party still going through the carvery this was not an issue. This was brought to your table in slightly less time. Along with your starters and desserts if you had mentioned anything during your meal that you were still hungry, we would have gladly taken you back up to the carvery and offered you more food. Everyone else including members of your party did say how much there was and how much they had enjoyed it all. The table that was near your table did tell me how much they cannot wait to book for next year and have given us a 5-star review. I do sincerely apologize that you had to cook once you got home, but out of the 200 guests that dinned with us on Christmas Day between the 2 functions this is only negative comment. Your tables organizer did mention how much he had enjoyed the day. Needed a get away so came here last Wednesday. Absolutely superb hotel, the rooms are quite brilliant. The food was great, the chips we had at lunch are to die for, Then at night I had a Carvery. I'd got a medium one, I dread to think if I'd got a large one, got loads & was great. Breakfast in the morning was one of the best I've had in a hotel. Hot & plenty, couldn't fault it. It was really nice & we stayed in the hotel the whole time. We've booked New Years Eve Eve & New Years Eve to go back again, quite brilliant. Should be a great New Year here.

With all the covid19 restrictions the hotel had every covered for our safe stay, our room was spotless,the restaurant had great Safe distancing measurses in place but so smart you wouldn't realise they were there. We stayed here on Wednesday 12 November as we were attending a funeral in southport and had to be there at 8.30-8.45. All the staff were amazing and couldnt do enough for us. They were not doing meals in hotel of an evening re government rules but recommended take aways nearby and even set a table up for us upon our return so we could eat our meal. The next morning the breakfast was good and service again so perfect. They made our stay on what was a sad time with it being my husband mums funeral we were attending, a brilliant experience. Only 1 thing i could say re the family room was the kitchen vent must be by our room so when we opened the window it was quiet loud and the hotel was rather hot in the night. Other than that the room was perfect and really nicely decorated. Thank you to all the staff as you were all amazing.

Just stayed for a long weekend and really enjoyed my stay at The Bold. The staff were all friendly and accommodating, the hotel was clean and warn and most definitely making sure everyone stayed safe with the Covid-19 precautions. There were 2 downsides though, the small car-park (only fit for 8 vehicles) and no lift (thought I was fitter than I am) otherwise, great hotel in a great location.

From the minute we arrived it was lovely me and my mum had room 7 (this was a deluxe double room with a bath) we went bed breakfast evening meal the food was perfect and the room was spot on couldnt fault it at all. For the evening meal each person gets £20 towards mean this was more than enough.if I have just 1negative thing to say would be everytime I went out for a cigarette I would have to walk through the bar could of done with a little back door to go out of

We had a lovely break in our current hometown. As we can't travel at the moment we decided to have a break at The Bold. We had a fantastic time. We booked the suite with a double whirlpool bath. Check in (with the lovely Anne) was easy and quick. A lovely relaxing room. Great dinner with excellent food and drink. Finally a great breakfast. Service was fantastic from everyone we encountered, and we couldn't recommend it enough.

From beginning to end the stay could not have been better, we arrived early and checked it was ok to leave the car (absolutely no problem) Friendly staff throughout, food amazing! Decor in the bar and restaurant done to a really high standard. Function room put to use as a cosy spot for drinks for residents, sister hotel across the road a sports and Irish bar also worth a visit, staff in both places seem to have the same friendly and approachable attitudes! Room itself spacious, well decorated, very, very comfortable bed and lovely powerful shower. Meant to use it as a base to explore Southport more so my only negative is felt far too comfortable and welcomed that probably spent more time inside than I would! We will be back, and if you've read this far down and were unsure you will not be disappointed! Thank You to all the staff who made it such a perfect stay!

This hotel is amazing! Stayed here for the weekend with my husband as a treat for my birthday. Check in was fast, reception staff Kat & Anne were so friendly, made 7s feel at home straight away. We stayed in room 3 overlooking Lord Street & what a beautiful room, bed was so comfortable, room spotless & the decor was gorgeous. We booked the Autumn deal Bed, breakfast & dinner & wasn't disappointed. Breakfast was tasty & plenty of it & served to your table which was a lovely touch, dinner was from the main menu & there was plenty of choice & again very tasty. The 2 beautiful girls behind the bar Neive & Kelsie were amazing nothing was to much trouble, always smiling, they helped make our weekend more enjoyable they are a credit to the hotel. All covid guidelines were covered however did not interfere with a fabulous weekend. We loved this place so much we have booked again for 2 nights at New Year. We would definitely recommend this fabulous hotel, if you've never been you must try it you won't be disappointed!

My friend and I have stayed 3 times,super hotel. Friendly and helpful can not do enough. Rooms are out of this world.stay at this hotel,you cannot go wrong.food is good,good choice.tables outside for food drink.southport is nice place to see,lots of shops.Barbara and I,Irene love it

Me and my wife Karen spent 3 nights in the Bold hotel in Southport had a really nice time the staff were absolutely brilliant so friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble had a couple of meals food was fantastic we will definitely be back thanks for a great break one of the best hotels we've stayed in 10 out of 10 to everyone who works there

"Excellent hotel, poor dining service "

We stayed here for a night as a family and the hotel was absolutely spotless, gorgeous rooms and lovely decor throughout! Definitely worth the money we spent. Reception staff Anne was delightful, lovely and pleasant. Dining service poor, we got forgot about twice, first when ordering drinks we waited 20 minutes, then another 20 for them to arrive with starters arriving before drinks. The meals were served without cutlery so then had to sit and wait again whilst food went cold. Food was absolutely delicious though. Breakfast again was told we could sit anywhere, sat down waited 10 minutes to then be told we have to move to a different table for breakfast. Again food delicious.

This hotel is fabulous! Nothing to much trouble Ann on reception cheeky smile very helpful .Tom the night manager was the hardest working person I have come across in any hotel. Rooms are spotless . refurbished to a very high standard .comfy beds and pillows a really lovely place to stay. Staff are amazing .would recommend this hotel to any one who wants a great place to stay .they looked after our whole party 100% and they are a fussy bunch .so well done The Bold Hotel

Staff amazing, extremely friendly and Covid aware. Safe atmosphere, only drinks but would recommend. Clean and very tidy. Social distanced very well. A great place to visit. Have walked past a few times but never been in. Highly recommend.

We had a lovely stay at The Bold. Louise and Beth on reception were so friendly and helpful. The rooms were big and clean and the location was perfect. We didn't try the breakfast but it looked nice and the bar staff were always smiling and chatty whenever we went downstairs for a drink.

i have had the most lovely time at The Bold, louise and Beth on reception were more than helpful, and so were tge waitresses and bar staff. We waited an absolute age for the food and the customer service was shocking. I really felt sorry for the young girl serving us as she had so many tables to cover. However the food was unbelievably good. The best burger ive ever had if im honest. I would of loved to of had a desert but we waited for over half an hour after we finished our main for someone to come and see us but they never came so we ended up just asking for the bill and left.

This hotel is in a great location with friendly efficient service. Comfortable and clean rooms and although I didn't use it the restaurant looked busy and fun. I only stated one night but will be sure to stay here again when next in town.

My husband and I recently booked a couple of nights away at the Bold Hotel, Lord Street, Southport . We chose the hotel very carefully as my husband had been shielding and we wanted to ensure the highest standards of health and safety were in place . We booked the hotel through Booking. com and used the detailed safety procedures they advised were in place to make our decision . Regrettably many of the procedures were not in place and when I took the matter up with the hotel it would seem that some of them never had been . To future travellers I suggest you check with the hotel prior to booking to make sure your expectations can be met. In summary I feel the hotel was overpriced and the ratings for health and safety should be reduced

Had been going regularly, but it has changed, ie the waiter was surly, the coffee was tepid the order was wrong and to top it all they tried to over charge us. As I said earlier we would go regularly, and all was good well looked after, but not going back now.

Small portions, overpriced food and drink, 1.50 for a lime and soda, nice environment though, very welcoming and friendly bar staff. Food was expensive for the portion size, however tasted quite nice.

Myself, husband and daughter stayed here , and was really impressed, the rooms were spacious and very clean, the staff are so friendly and checking in was excellent, we were really looked after by Louise and Kerry who couldn't do enough for us , and in our opinion sitting outside the Hotel having a drink is definitely the best place to sit in Southport, we will definitely be coming back here ,

The hotel gives a warm welcome on arrival, with nothing being too much trouble. Lovely spacious room, spotlessly clean. Bar provides a relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff and the food is outstanding! Would highly recommend.

Just returned from a lovely stay at the hotel, travelled as a family with 2 children aged under 12. Receieved a courtesy call prior to check in where I enquired about local leisure facilities and upon arrival we were offered complimentary swim at the Victoria Leisure Club, which was great. Rooms very clean and comfortable, staff helpful and friendly, well located and overall an excellent experience. Thank you

Called in for a midweek lunch and wasn't disappointed. Impressively presented food. Fabulous service by extremely friendly waitress. You don't need to move from your seat. Dont bother coming if you want your food anytime soon. Food is nice but not worth the wait. Messed up our evening meal, mains before starters while waiting over and hour and a half. Same for breakfast waiting over an hour.

Returned to southport to visit and met friends for tea. Pleasantly surprised with the bold new look. The staff were very attentive and onfident, always checking on our needs. The food was ok, nice, nothing to complain about and quick. Great vibe, mix of people and busy in a good way. All round, a great night and we would return.

visited the Bold restaurant on Lord Street last Friday with my wife,a superb improvement of decor ,layout ,and ambience since the refurbishment.The food was excellent,and we were very well looked after by Chloe..whilst there we booked again for tomorrow night..we would definitely recommend a visit to anyone who hasn't yet been..

We stayed here for one night after it being recommended by a friend... hotel was lovely, bed was so comfortable. The electric went off in our room when we was getting ready but this soon got resolved by the lady on reception who was very helpful. Would definitely stay here again. Great location too

We love the Bold and have stayed, eaten and had drinks here numerous times, so it was a given we would come here this visit. As with all venues, things are different at the moment. We sat outside and eventually our drinks order was taken. Then we waited. And waited some more. One large family gave up, their tray of drinks arriving after they had left. We got our drinks after 20 minutes. Apparently not enough bar staff on we were told. I'm sure the bold will iron the timings out to make service more swift. I hope so

The Bold Hotel On Lord Street Has A Great Bar And Restaurant And Offers A Fantastic Food And Drinks Menu.Housed In A Grade II Listed Building And Built In 1832 This Is A Great Place To Unwind And Spend Some Time Having A Drink Or A Tasty Meal From There Superb Menu.The Bold Hotel Has A Superb Multi-Roomed Interior With Lots Of Interesting Features Throughout The Bars Interior And Superb Seating Options'There Is Also Good Outside Seating Options For When The Weather Is Fine.When We Came Here We Opted To Sit Inside And After We Gave Our Track And Trace Details We Then Ordered Our Beers Which Where A Couple Of Glasses Of Guinness Which Where Well Served And Priced.This Is A Great Bar And A Bar We Visit When We're In Southport As The Beers Are Well Kept And The Main Bar And Restaurant Are Superb.Easy To Get To From Southport Train Station You Walk To Lord Street Turn Right Its A Seven Minutes Walk.(This Is My First Review Of The Bold Hotel). Opening Hours. Monday-Sunday-As Its A Hotel It Could Be Open Early And Shut Late.

We were very pleased with this hotel where we stayed in room 19. The rooms have recently been made over and everything felt fresh and new. The staff are super friendly and the bar below has a horse racing theme going on and is well styled. The clothes rail in the room doesn't really give enough clearance to suitably hang a mans clothes but for a one night stay this didn't really matter. It's a shame they didn't source a chair that would push fully under the desk top in the room which would have given a sense of even more space. The bathroom is large in room 19 and the beds and bedding were most comfortable. I would certainly stay here again. Good value.

Amazing place that I've only just started visiting. The staff are amazing, particularly niamh who looked after us all night and nothing was too much for her. Can't wait to come back and enjoy the food and drink again!

Nice hotel with few little minor problems like no menus for breakfast no offer of orange juice , but the rooms were lovely well cleaned , had food a drinks in bar both very good , id definitely stay again.

Visited the hotel with family including a 4 year old. We picked a late afternoon so as to miss the lunch crowds. On arrival we were greeted well and seated quickly. The menu was a bit confusing as prices were shown as numbers not currency and very small. We placed our order and after asking about how long we would have to wait decided to have starters and mains separately. It seemed strange to be asked but were assured the food was 'flowing'. Then everything went pear-shaped. We waited 45 minutes for starters despite enquiring after 30minutes. And all the food came together and was VERY hot, giving the impression the order had been 'lost'. No explanation was given except that they only had 2 chefs. The hotel wasn't full and we weren't the only ones complaining. On receiving the bill we enquired about some reduction due to the wait and our having to chase our food and were very abruptly and rudely told that we had had the government discount so what more did we expect. We paid and left. But will never be returning. Pity as the food was really good when we finally got it.

The Hotel is spot-on. The food lets down a litttle it could be appoved and menus. I got cold food so, I asked a celebrity look a like (Grace) waitress my food is cold eg: Chips,Onion rings . She took it back to the kitchen. When she came back with my food was hot no problems. The Toilets are clean and tidy with soap and hand zanitizer available. Social distances are deared to. The staff are friendly. Our waitress was Grace a very pleasent young lady with Chloe is a waitress and very Professional. All staff in the hotel are Professional to be fair. If you want see Catherine Zeta-Jones look a like go and visit The Bold Hotel Southport.

I have stayed at the Bold 4 times now over the years. The changes since I last visited were a bit of a mixture to me. The room was lovely and the staff excellent, especially Bethany. However downstairs I remember a very pleasant bar and restaurant, that has changed including the menu. It now has a feel of a modern pub with a pub type of menu. In short this aspect has gone slightly down market. To summarise, the Hotel very good, the dining area not to my taste

"Just some disappointment regulars"

We dine at the restaurant quite frequently and every time have had no complaints. HOWEVER last nights experience? Very poor.. The food was fabulous as always and cannot fault it, but on the other hand the service? Shocking. We booked and were sat down on a table which was dirty (considering current circumstances this is quite appalling especially when they were expecting us) the gentleman said “one moment as I grab a cloth” Another waiter was stood behind us and before we could even sit down he asked us for a drink order, we are all for quick service but didn't even have time to take my bag off! Starters plates didn't get cleared for 20 minutes even though the waiter was in and around our table almost always. Mains came, waited 10 minutes to get sauces which the girl said she was grabbing (had practically finished by the time they came) We had no check back and when plates finally got cleared we asked for the bill as the waitress replied “right away” 20 minutes past ... still no bill and not a waiter in sight! We decide after waiting for so long to go up to the bar. When getting to the bar there were FIVE members of staff messing with a birthday cake and some of them giggling about and trying to change the music, ignoring us each time they walked past. Working in hospitality myself, we understand it's a customers birthday and to make it special, but to forget about the rest of the customers? Not how it's done! We got to the bar and said we'd like the bill as have been waiting and all we got in response was “oh”. The waiter who served us we have never seen him before and although seemed friendly, service was very slow and overall poor. I mean 5 people to light some cake candles!? We are not the type to complain especially when it's a place we rate so much (USUALLY) but this bad experience has been a major disappointment.

I came here this week for dinner, we had booked over the phone and sat outside. After our starter, we were met with 'Can you pay for your meal now' in a very abrupt manner. We explained that we were waiting for our main and they said they know but they want us to pay upfront. No other tables were asked this which was quite insulting, what if I wanted a dessert or wasn't satisfied with the food? When we paid we asked why and they said it's because they have had walk outs recently. We are always very polite to staff and would never dream of not paying but this service made us feel they expected us to walk out. The food was okay but we left immediately after as we felt we had be made to feel very unwelcome.

We had visited The Bold Hotel for a drink before and enjoyed, so this trip we walked up for another drink. We were told we could sit outside and someone would come and serve us. The tables were dirty from previous diners. We sat and waited for nearly 10 minutes. No one came to serve us, so we went inside to order. Staff were busy but chatting amongst themselves. Waited another 5 minutes to be served. We cleared the food plates off the table ourselves. A lot of staff walking around but didn't see them doing much. Such a shame.

We called in not long after lock down was lifted. The service was friendly and very good. The menu was extensive with lots of choice. Two diners had the chicken kebabs, one had a chilli chicken wrap, one person had a fish finger Sandwich and the other diner had Lasagne and garlic bread. All the meals were lovely with big portions and came quickly- great dining experience!!

We have eaten twice now at the newly refurbished bar area. Pre and post lockdown. The bar area is lovely and staff very efficient. The food is very average at best. The first time I had the carvery. The food had clearly been under the heat for too long and I returned it. Decided to give it another chance post lockdown and ordered from the main menu. Food is overpriced and bland. We won't be having food again but will definitely call in for a drink.

Visited the bold on a partly sunny Sunday ,first time In over 3 months that I have been anywhere near a public house ,I was unsure a first how to go about ordering drinks but upon entering a member of staff informed me that it was table service only ,bit like Spain really ,all the staff we met were extremely courteous and professional the bar and outdoor areas were spotless and staff were sanitising tables after use ,all together a very pleasant afternoon will visit again ..
