Hotel Sonderborg Strand, Sure Hotel Collection by BW

This hotel could have had two stars more if was for the appalling greeting received on our arrival. We arrive on Saturday afternoon 11/12.2021. at around 1pm. The receptionist came reluctantly out of a back room and her first words was, you can't come her before 3pm. I then had to beg her to check or reservation which she only reluctantly did. This rather rude, reluctant, and frankly appalling greeting brought the entire experience down, however the hotel is: • Situated beautiful and close to the castle and beach. • Spacious and clean rooms. • Close to the town centre

Friendly reception but the restaurant service very substandard - couldn't even reserve a table, and the food for the price not up to standard; nice location though if a little cramped between ‘the old peoples's home' and the theater. The terrace bar with a view over the sea was a bit of a compensation.

Stayed one night in July. On the plus side , free parking, our room had a great view , polite staff, good breakfast, very near the center and Beach.. Minus side , our bed was very hard ,the room was very very hot because no AC. No fridge. We did not eat at the hotel $300/€260 was a bit too much but it was with a view and in July.

Everything was fine. The room was big and clean and had a great view. More water from the shower head would have been nice. The girls in the reception were not really service minded. In general it was ok. The breakfast was good but too many people there at the same time (corona!)

Stayed in a superior room with sea view. Room was nice, clean, bright and with a large comfortable bed. Tv showed a selection of channels of both local and from neighbouring countries, including BBC News. Dinner meals at hotel restaurant was sub standard. Starter was a tomato gazpacho soup which was ok. Main dish of beef ribeye was very generous in size but totally lacked seasoning. Asked for fresh ground blackpepper and was told it was not available and only the salt and whitepepper powder shaker at table was at hand! Baked potato was good but vegetables and sauce were not well matched in my view. Trying to be too elaborate but failing in understanding the basic fundamentals. Second dinner meal was also if not a bigger disappointment. Starter of smoked salmon felt like it came straight from the fridge. Cold, hard and again poorly presented. Served with cold breadrolls, we asked for a little more bread which was frowned upon. However, warm breadrolls soon arrived, but without butter? Again, we had to ask if a little more butter was possible? Main dish was a porkloin which was overcooked and dry. Vegetables, sallad and dijon sauce lacked flavour, seasoning and yet again presentation. We had also pre-ordered one vegetarian meal which had been forgotten. The kitchen however apologetically and quickly cooked up a very nice panfried fish which was way better than our dry chewy pork... Dessert was baked Alaska. Generous portion which tasted ok. Suspect that it was bought and not made by the hotel kitchen? All in all, we found the food and service to be below what could have been expected. The restaurant was far from busy/full but getting the attention of the waiters was difficult as was their willingness to see to that we had what we needed. Simple things like replenishing water was not done without having to ask. Breakfast was in contrast ok. Saw the chef come out several times to replenish. Selection and nutritional variety was good.

Your average hotel by any means. Not really four star. Sub standard breakfast, itchy bed linen, crazy scarecrow ruins the seaview. The channel selection on the tv very limited, and they block chromecast. I'd recommend looking elsewhere if planning to stay in Soenderborg. This place lacks charm.

We enjoyed our stay very much. The location is great! Easy walk to the beach just in front of the hotel and to restaurants in town. Room was spacious and the view of the bay is great. Breakfast is nice! The staff is friendly snd service oriented. Free parking outside is a plus!

The hotel has a big parking place, a little bit away. The rooms are nice with balcony facing the water. All very clean. I give only three stars because the room is even in july lousy cold, the wind comes through the bad isolated door and the heating is off. If we would have booked more than one night we would have left anyway. In addition we had a screaming terror kid the room over us and the parents let it run around until midnight - and we had to suffer. So bad isolation in everything.

This hotel is blessed by its location near the sea (Fjord of Flensburg and Alssund) and its central location next to the castle. We had a nice room with a great view - helped by being there during some real summer days - and facilitties in the room were fine though the beds could have been better. The restaurant was a disappointment - photos on the website offered more than the reality turned out to be - as food both for dinner and breakfast was typical catering-packed items with not too much flavour and excellence. Staff was nice and helpful. Sitting outside on the terrace was great but due to a staff shortage - we were told - you could not eat out there.

Hotel personel very committed and customer minded, helped us with taxi troubles. Beautiful view from the hotel on the sea. Just 10 min walk from the train station and close to the center and all the restaurang. Room ok.
