Rooms are adequately sized and beds were very comfortable. Nice clean bath area. Great AC. Common area is OK. Staff very friendly. Probably one of yhe nicest Best Western facilities I have stayed at. Breakfast is so so. Location is fine.
"This is a classic Best Western that offers exactly what you need for a comfortable stay. The rooms are well-maintained with comfortable single beds, and the bathroom was clean with notably nice, high-quality towels. I also found the Wi-Fi to be strong and reliable. While the breakfast buffet was just okay, the hotel bar was a standout with a surprisingly wide selection of drinks and local beers. The location is a major plus—it's an easy walk to Guyana's Exclusive Eggball Stand, a local street food stand, which is an absolute must-visit while you're here! A solid choice for a reliable stay with great local flavor nearby."
Hotel staff is very friendly and tried their level best to accommodate our needs.
The hotel rooms are very comfortable with a great mattress and cold A/C, but the whole hotel feels cramped. No patio to lounge or anything… just the room and the sidewalk. It's very nice that there is a restaurant, however… I would never go to the restaurant if I wasn't staying there. The food is Delicious but the prices are VERY high for what it is, and it has terrible service. I'm taking $20USD for some mozzarella sticks for an appetizer. I've been to the restaurant 3 times and it is consistently hard to flag people down to place orders or get your check at the end of the meal.
I would say that the staff in this hotel are the most friendly, nice, polite, helpful of any hotel that I have stayed in the world. That is all staff from reception, bar , to cleaners , even the maintenance staff. Although the breakfast is limited, it is the same as any smaller international brand like holiday inn express / Hampton by Hilton. Evening food menu has everything that everyone should want. Yes, it could be classed as expensive, but everything is expensive in this city due to limited hotel rooms and it being an oil city.
Was invited by Ester ( employee) the day before to visit the lounge on the roof. On 9/11 went at 6pm with my family and met Carlos( Gm) known prior, because we met him on our previous stay at the hotel for 8 nights). He was polite and we informed him that we were there to go the lounge. We went to the elevator and was greeted by a greeter and after checking he told us there was no reservation for us. Ester did not make the reservation. However they took us upstairs. Ester saw us downstairs and ignore us. The ambience was excellent upstairs. When we stayed last year the lounge was under construction. It came out very nice after all. . . We were just there to relax and then have dinner. The original server who we met previously when we stayed last year was very polite. However she had to leave to serve a VIP group that came in. The other server was less experience. We finally order drinks. Because of her lack of training she keep hovered us to order dinner. We could feel that the atmosphere was not friendly oriented as the manager/supervisor was running scared about the vip group that just arrived. We decided to leave. I would not recommend to go there. The salt air from the ocean was very sticky. We left and went to Amicia where we had a great time. My opinion is that if you want to attract high end guest to this lounge you need to give high end service , raise the bar of service and let the guest feel that there money has value.
Nice cosy rooms , cleanliness was good, ambience was good, the staff was polite and helpful. the menu was good. overall value for money.
I had a very disappointing experience at this hotel. I originally booked a room with two beds, as I was traveling with another person. However, I received an email just before my arrival stating they had "upgraded" me to a room with a king bed. I immediately called to insist I needed the two beds I originally booked. Despite this, when I arrived at 1:00 AM, they only had a king bed available. We finally went to sleep at 2:00 AM, only to be woken up at 7:00 AM with a call saying they now had the correct room. I didn't answer the first call, but they called again at 7:30. I explained we were tired and would switch rooms after breakfast. Despite this, hotel staff knocked on our door again at 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM, insisting we vacate the room immediately. We were forced to pack and move rooms in a rush. To make things worse, when we arrived at the restaurant at 9:35 AM, they told us breakfast ended at 9:30—even though we had been dealing with the room change. The manager gave us cold takeout breakfast (eggs, pancakes, coffee), which we had to eat in our room. Later, we asked the hotel to call us a taxi to visit clients. I was shocked to find out the hotel adds a 10% fee to the taxi fare. I travel extensively, and I've never had a hotel charge guests an additional fee for simply calling a taxi. Worse, we couldn't pay the taxi driver directly. The hotel insisted on taking the payment, then added their cut. The next day, we needed the same taxi service again, this time to the airport, and once again were charged the 10% fee. When I expressed how unacceptable this was and I was going to put a review with google I was told they'd offer me a free night for my next stay. I told them I won't be returning, and what they should've done instead is remove the 10% charge as a courtesy. Overall, poor service, lack of respect for guests' time, and hidden fees left a bad impression. I do not recommend this hotel. Be aware they will charge you for everything.
Incredibly poor training on the front desk - when I asked if the hotel did room service (knowing how slow the service in the restaurant is, even when almost empty, from a previous stay), the receptionist simply didn't know. It turns out they do actually have room service - but the food arrived 1hr 10 minutes after I ordered it, and was handed over in a brown paper bag, containing plastic boxes, containing almost cold food. I handed it back and went to bed very late and hungry. Asked to borrow an adapter, but what they didn't mention is that there is a charge of US$5 to use the adapter, which suddenly appeared on the bill at the end of the stay. Very feeble shower pressure. Street noise until around midnight. On the plus side: clean room; good bed; good treadmills in gym; waffle machine at breakfast. But the adapter charge did it for me. Charge me if I don't return it, but not if I do. I won't be back.
Stunning Rooftop Experience in Guyana! 🌇🍹 We came for the hotel restaurant but heard about the Horizon Rooftop Bar and decided to go up and it turned out to be the best decision of the night! The view over Queenstown is absolutely breathtaking. With a delicious cocktail in hand and the city lights below, the atmosphere was unforgettable. Just hope you're not afraid of heights! Even though we didn't have a reservation, the staff welcomed us warmly. Special shout out to our server, Amin he was polite, friendly, and helpful. I never forget to leave a review when the service is this good! He gave us recommendations, made sure we were comfortable the whole time, and even helped us take some lovely photos. If you're looking for a unique and memorable night out in Guyana, this place is a must. Just a heads-up: the rooftop bar is only open on Fridays, Saturdays,so reservations are highly recommended. 10/10 experience—definitely coming back!
Let's start with the highlights: The food was exceptional. Every dish we tried showcased bold flavors, fresh ingredients, and creative presentation. The decor and ambience also deserve applause, think modern elegance, perfect for both intimate dinners and lively gatherings. Add to that impeccable service; the staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu. That said, there are a couple of points to note. While the portions were beautifully plated, they leaned toward the smaller side, which might leave heartier appetites wanting more. The prices, though reflective of the high-quality ingredients and upscale vibe, felt a touch excessive for the quantity offered. Additionally, the bar fell short on our visit, several drinks listed on the menu were unavailable, which was disappointing. Still, these hiccups didn't overshadow the evening. The Restaurant is clearly striving for excellence, and as a new establishment, it's understandable they're still fine-tuning their offerings.
This is one of the newest hotels in town, therefore the rooms are modern and comfortable. The odd thing is that the stairs cannot be used, apart from emergencies. I like to walk up a few flights of stairs sometimes, but only the elevators are available for the guests. Two small bottles of water a day are complementary which is not a lot considering the warm climate and the notorious tab water quality.
It was extremely disappointing that my family and I were turned away after choosing to dine here. Our group of thirteen, which included professionals from various parts of the world, was denied entry simply because a father and his baby were wearing shorts — in Guyana, no less. We had heard glowing reviews about this establishment, but our experience was anything but welcoming. It's truly unfortunate and, quite frankly, shameful. I DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Overpriced hotel stay away. Paid over $300 a night , no pool or free breakfast won't go back plenty of much better options. Typical Guyanese trying to scam people with a westernized hotel just like Marriott AVOID. Crappy location too! Stay at sleep inn better off
Restaurant dinner review: Grilled chicken was inedible and rubbery, managed to cut a few pieces off but posed a choking and dental risk; worst chicken I have ever tasted in my life. Family member had chicken burger which was dry and also tasteless. Wait staff pleasant and apologetic but damage done.
The evening and breakfast service was chaotic and often shambolic. Waiting staff don't know the menu, if any is available, forget and confuse orders. The food is ok , small portions. The high prices are simply not justified. 5* prices for 3* quality and service. Breakfast buffet option decreased each day. Not egg station, limited fruit options, yogurt options poor. Rubbery omelettes in the buffet. The manager walks around, not knowing what the problems are otherwise he should be doing something. 40usd for that is an insult. The chef produces adequate food, but quality and quantity are lacking for the high prices being charged. The restaurant only shining light was Minvera, who was trying to plug holes in an ever seeping dam. She was embarrassed by what was served and the chaos of the evening service. The manager was there, did nothing just let the chaos develop each night. Staff seemed to be unclear on what tables they were serving , orders were repeated, food came out cold and wrong. Drinks spilled on the tables. If you ask for the house curry or the fish of the day , the waiting staff have to check with the kitchen. One time , the waitress went off , never came back as she returned to take orders from other tables. Staff coagulate around the bar , often wondering who taken orders from what tables. Unfortunately these events occurred regularly and the management seems inept to rectify the situation.
