"Excellent Service"
mphandemoses, 05 Février 2024

Very rewarding experience, the team ensured I was on time for my early morning, made sure I was up by 02:30 am(early morning call at exactly that time), made sure breakfast was prepared (honestly didn't expect it at that time) ensured transport was ready for me to connect onto my next one by 03:30, everything was smooth and flawless. Cheerful team all the way!! I will definitely come back.

"Best western plus hotel experience"

"BEST HOTEL IN LUSAKA"
nelsonmonyamane, 21 Janvier 2024

The look and feel of the hotel reflects what you see on the internet. Clean, convenient, friendly, caring, value for money, staff are so friendly and caring, vey professional. The food is clean and very good. They play nice local music.

"Great hotel in lusaka"
penel0pep30, 09 Décembre 2023

I can really recommend the best Western hotel in Lusaka. Great hotel room, nice and helpful staff, I loved the fitness room, the food was excellent. I would definitely come back. Also good pick up service from the airport

"Good stay in Lusaka"
amdfrutuoso, 25 Novembre 2023

Cosy, confortable and quiet. Good restaurant although the breakfast is only regular. Had some troubles with internet connection from time to time. Good time by the pool. Very friendly and helpful staff.

"Good value for money"
Mxmale, 17 Septembre 2023

Best Western Lusaka offers good value for the price compared to other hotels in the city. The staff goes the extra mile to satisfy their guests. The breakfast buffet is quite good with a nice variety. However, the rooms are on the smaller side, and the hotel's decor leans towards kitsch. The pool area seems to be a popular gathering spot.

"Comfortable night in Lusaka"
224heleny, 22 Août 2023

Stayed at this hotel for one night while in transit. Clean, big rooms with tea/coffee facilities. Everything we needed and very comfortable. Staff attentive. Ate at the restaurant - nice food and good service. It's a 25 minute drive from airport. Very nice hotel and reasonably priced.

"Fantastic!!"
carolyn y, 07 Juillet 2023

Fantastic hotel - great value for money, great location and amenities, very friendly, helpful and welcoming staff. Lovely breakfast with a good variety of foods - to suit everyone. Can't fault it. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definately come back. Thank you to all the staff. Carolyn and Richard, from U.K., July 2023.

"First time in Lusaka"
taridmak, 02 Janvier 2023

Service exceeded my expectations, friendly staff, food was great. For the amount you pay there is definitely value for money. I'll recommend it friends and I will definitely stay again on my next trip.

"Best Western Lusaka, Zambia"
padraigo569, 02 Décembre 2022

Excellent hotel - great value, friendly, professional, efficient staff, perfectly located on Great East Road, close to centre and on direct route to airport. For business or leisure - just about perfect.

"Service with excellence"
rnbanda2002, 22 Novembre 2022

Meets guests' standards considering the local standards and the difficult times that hospitality industry is coming out after the Covid-19 affected operations for over 2 years. Best Western Plus Lusaka Hotel is well located in the administrative capital of Zambia with easy access to the international airport. The facility having its own airport shuttle bus adds value to the hotel services. The general manager's personal relationship and duty of care to meet guests' expectation and needs is so exceptional. Staff in all departments put in extra effort to satisfy their guests and all work as one team towards achieving one goal that of customer satisfaction and having value for thier money.

"(below) Average"
kjeld g, 14 Octobre 2022

The suprising thing with Zambia is that there are not that many hotels. In Lusaka you have some and around Vic Falls you will find a few. And that's about it. So choices are limited and to find hotels with outstanding reviews is not easy. That said, our choice was this hotel. Reviews all depend on taste, preferences and so, but for us this hotel was nothing special. Downsides: it's pretty noisy so bring earplugs, and they really should improve the quality of the breakfast.

"Best Western Lusaka"
FredrikJos, 03 Octobre 2022

A good hotel in Lusaka. Easy to travel to and from the airport. Good breakfast. Sorry to say that you feel tension between the workers. For example chinese staff interrupt the Zambian staff in the reception. And the staff in the restaurant seem to be afraid to loose there jobs. But mostly people from Zambia are good people so its all good. One afternoon people danced traditional music in front of the hotel, that was very nice. I will come back.

"Best place in Lusaka city center!"
kilometrosparaelmund, 29 Septembre 2022

I stayed there in September for 3 nights, solo traveling. The hotel has lot of things to offer: it's conveniently located in the city center, it has spaces to chill and even a swimming pool! My room was clean, comfy and with a bathtub :) But if I have to say what was my favorite, I'll go for the breakfast: buffet with fruits, cereals and local & international dishes!!! Don't miss the place if you're going to Lusaka!

"Precious Chibwe"
EngPule, 06 Août 2022

We had a relaxing time at the hotel. It has a serene environment and the meals are great. The premises are relatively clean too. Ideal for work visits and also family visitations. Nice hotel though it's just the parking lot which is small

"Good value but it could be so much better"
Gordonnomad, 06 Août 2022

Bestwestern Lusaka It is good value, the staff are friendly, it's clean, the showers are hot. Although the staff are friendly, in some areas they don't seem to be very well trained. For example the maintenance people who came up to fix my room safe took about 20 minutes to do it. Where this is most noticeable is in the restaurant. I think it's almost always empty because after you have one meal there you really don't want to have another. The exception is breakfast which was fine and included. But for lunch or dinner the food wasn't really very good. And most importantly although the staff was friendly I don't think the restaurant staff has proper training and experience and the hotel should hire some staff who do. Also they Should get a coffee machine and someone who can operate it as it was very disappointing not to be able to have a cappuccino or espresso. For under $100 this is probably a good option, but it could be so much better if the hotel were run better with better trained and more experienced staff.

"Better than expected!"
jeanbZ9469DM, 26 Juillet 2022

We normally stay in Best Western hotels all over the world, and this experience was far better than we expected for a hotel in Africa. Will stay again and recommend to family and friends. All the staff were very helpful. Our flight wasnt until later in the night, the hotel agreed to keep it for us after check out, which was very helpful as we had a chance to see more of the city before our flight.

"What a strange place"
Rune M, 22 Juillet 2022

The hotel is nice, but it's strange walking into something complete Chinese in the middle of Lusaka. Everything is from China, down to the silverware in the restaurant, so if you are going to Zambia thinking you'll spend money locally, this is not your hotel. The staff in the restaurant didn't understand our orders, so we never knew what we would get to eat. I guess they need some more training. On the other hand, the food that was served tasted very, very good. It was excellent! The bar closes at 2200, which is a little early. But you can buy multiple beers before closing hours and sit by the pool (where there was loud music that was quite disturbing when sleeping.) All in all – nice hotel, but the restaurant staff ruined my impression.

"beautiful stay at best western plus hotel lusaka"
marthachiluba3, 16 Juillet 2022

My stay was awesome I loved everything, your stuff members are so lovely, the rooms are clean, breakfast is everything and the pool is beautiful and so clean,we loved it and well surely come back soon.

"Terrible stay"
OnAir22090904553, 30 Juin 2022

This hotel is a dump. You cannot eat in the restaurant as it is being painted. You cannot have a drink at the bar as there are no chairs. Staff are constantly moving chairs from one room to another. You are thus actually confined to your room- dependent on room service deliveries. The mattress quality was so poor that I had to move rooms. Some floors are under renovation. And the manager is absent when called. Avoid avoid.

"Great friendly Hotel"
DocAlex1959, 05 Mars 2020

Spent 2 nights here and had a comfortable stay with clean comfortable bed and great air conditioning. Hotel shuttled me to/ from the airport. Breakfast was lavish and wide range of fresh food. Happy hour at the piano bar was great. Great value for money.

"My Best Western Experience"
Explore62311468285, 26 Février 2020

Amazing food, well coordinated and caring staff, home and friendly environment. This is well located and can easily be accessed especially with the central business district less than 5 km away. The staff are so friendly and caring( concerned about ones welfare). I ám slowly getting too know their names. Keep up with the good service Taurai, Michael, Pascal and so many of you who do not go un- noticed. So Blessed you all are.

"Nice place, great service"
Zurufa, 22 Février 2020

This is not a luxury hotel, but the rooms are more than ok, and the service is very good. I had some problems with the drain, the fridge (not cold) and the shower not fitting the holder, so I wrote a small note one morning, thinking I should give it to the reception later on. But the cleaner saw it and when I came back in the evening everything was fixed, and some fruits were put in the room for me. That kind of service is really good, so then I don't mind if the rooms are a bit old. More than good enough!! I will most likely stay here again next time.

"Affordable and Clean"
Deyana_Th, 03 Février 2020

The location was perfect, the hotel as located in the main road and within walking distance to a mall. The service was very good, staff were very accommodating. I enjoyed the pool the most, comfortable and there was wifi available the area as well. The breakfast had a good variety of food - European, Indian and Chinese food. The breakfast had a good variety of fresh food - European, Indian and Chinese food.

"Avoid. More like 2 star at 4 star price."
bh4vikz, 10 Janvier 2020

Run down more than you can imagine. I've stayed in locally owned hotels minutes from here with the same facilities at half the price and more comfortability. Better to stay in the Radisson or Cresta golf view down the road.

"Very Good"
chibomboma17, 11 Décembre 2019

Good place for leisure and business.Very good personalised service where appropriate. Good health food and well prepared by qualified staff. Well located for easy access to city business centre. The bar do some business promotion such as happy hour that increases the guest in to social interaction and promotes business.

"Air conditioner smelled like mold or mildew"
ZambiaTraveller316, 30 Novembre 2019

First room wasn't ready to go in. Second room had an air conditioner that smelled like mold or mildew. Got put in a smaller room after figuring out it gave me a headache or made me feel uncomfortable to be in the room with the bad air conditioner. Staff didn't give many options. Would most likely look for another place and not come back. Other hotels are nicer with air conditioners that don't make you sick.

"Satisfied"
truthwilltell1844, 17 Novembre 2019

I enjoyed my 12 day stay at the Best Western in Lusaka, Zambia. Staff were friendly. Fitness center needs upgrade. I will gladly stay there again, and would not hesitate to recommend it to my friends.

"Terrible stay!"
BoardingPass646679, 06 Novembre 2019

It's sad to see what is becoming of this hotel. 3 rooms in one night due to the pathetic state of affairs. Firstly I was put in a smoking room which I had not requested. The house keeping lady informed me that the entire 2nd floor is a smoking level. When I went back to reception, they seemed shocked and unaware it was a smoking room. Next room on the 3rd floor- aircon didn't work and the shower head was broken (not fun when you are as already unpacked and standing in the shower). They claimed they could not move me as the hotel was full - the duty manager stupidly said to the receptionist that she didn't want to put me up a level which unfortunately for her I heard. It is now 9.30pm and I've been up since 3.30am traveling. She then says I must wait for maintenance to check it out and carry out repairs. This was the final straw seeing as I had already repacked my bags and was standing in reception holding them. I was finally taken to the 3rd room on the 4th floor. Big surprise- the aircon didn't work. I was too tired and just slept with the windows open trying to get some reprieve from the heat. Reported it the next morning and was assured it would be sorted out. Get back from work- it's still not working as I sit typing this. But wait, there's more. Try turn the tv on to find no batteries in the remote. It took over 40 minutes for this to be sorted out. The service and maintenance in this "hotel" has completely fallen away and I'll be taking our business elsewhere- completely disappointed and disgusted.

"Breakfast and location"
Nantee, 05 Novembre 2019

Their breakfast was superb. The environment was clean, the swimming outside offered a refreshing scene. The hotels appearance outside is so fascinating,it was clean. Also the gym provided extra hospitality. As well as the spar

"Very good an affordable hotel "
halvorr699, 13 Octobre 2019

This was probably The Grand Hotel when it was built, but it is still a cosy, informal hotel of good standard. We spent two nights in the Delux rooms which where good value for the money. It even has a swimming pool with it's own bar. Breakfast is a buffet with hot dishes and eggs and omelettes.

"Mr"
BainN1, 22 Septembre 2019

No electricity, and generator not working for days.. cold food, not able to shower... manager couldn't organize a rented generator???? Unacceptable... Service is great and awesome staff, great place, however the manager obviously needs to be replaced or a good wake up call..

"Value for money"
krenno78, 03 Septembre 2019

I recently chose this hotel for our party of 45 to stop at on a 2 day bus trip from Livingstone to Lake Kariba. Hotel was a very pleasant surprise with check in being completed for the tour in reasonable time. Late arrival into the hotel at 9pm meant that a few of us wanted food before bed.. the restaurant couldn't handle the flood of orders from restaurant and room service.. No order process, meals came out randomly, some meals came out cold, some didn't come out at all! Breakfast (which was included) was reasonable and well serviced by staff. I would certainly stay here again when passing through, good value for money.

"Decent hotel"
Subrata C, 14 Août 2019

Stayed during a short business trip. Location is good - near to the industrial area and the CBD. Decent service, good clean rooms and okay breakfast. Room amenities are decent but need to improve the shower in the toilets.

"Nice budget hotel in the heart of the city"
Sagar564, 08 Août 2019

The rooms are quite good, and well equipped. I did have an issue with the shower, but this was resolved once complained. Breakfast is fairly okay, friendly staff and the internet is not too bad either. With some fine tuning, they can be in the top league!

"Breakfast needs to be labelled "
Tassaikap, 06 Juillet 2019

Very nice hospitality...friendly staff.. room is good too.. fridge, cattle, tv,soap, lotion, shampoo, all available Breakfast was good but to highlight it, they mix with pork and they dont even label them in one dish they put pork sausage and pork sausage side by side ..... beef salami and pork salami were put together in one plate without labelling them ...

"Budget Hotel with Plus"
ShivPKohli, 03 Juillet 2019

Budget Hotel with Plus Stuff in Lusaka Rooms are Nice but Washrooms need improvement Breakfast is OK , Restaurant doesn't have many options Staff is Cooperative & Good Service Ample Parking 100% Value for Money

"Pretty good"
ayog218, 28 Mai 2019

Warm reception, lovely and clean surroundings. Loved sitting by the pool area in the evening. Rooms are mediocre. Breakfast is good but felt like most of the dishes weren't “fresh”. Menu is a little limited but food is cooked great. WiFi sometimes was a little slow. Beds were comfortable and cleaning staff were good also cautious to just leave personal belongings were they found them and not move stuff around for you. Definitely a good place to stay!

"Awesome"
Explorer66653788804, 09 Mai 2019

Best facilities and a warm reception. The rooms are very clean añd World class customer service from the Airport, to the reception and into the rooms. I enjoyed my stay there and eñcourage ànyone travelling to Zambia to visit and enjoy worldclass service

"In Budget Hotel with Awesome facilities"
Navigate53839807311, 29 Avril 2019

very good hotel and you will get value of your money. Awesome staff and with delicious Veg & N-Veg breakfast. Only few areas is having Internet problem, I believe hotel will solve this soon. Specially a staff is very supportive.

"Nice rooms"
EMoyo, 24 Février 2019

I was a bit reluctant to book in this hotel at first because despite having made many trips to Lusaka this was the first time I was hearing about it and I was told it located by the busy Great East road. However upon getting to the hotel I was pleasantly surprised. They have made a successful effort to make it welcoming. The moment I got into the hotel I forgot that it was close to a busy road. The rooms are big, modern and clean. There are all sorts of good amenities. The only downside from my perspective is that there was no gym within the hotel. The hotel indicated guests have access to a gym located off the hotel campus and the hotel takes guests there by car. I did not take this offer as I don't really want to be driven to a gym someplace. I would rather just walk to and from the gym.

"My experience at Best Western Plus ,Lusaka"
JosephM4752, 16 Décembre 2018

Hotel has improved in the last two years in terms of :- refurbishment , amenities, staff professionalism., Decor qulity requires some improvement. Quality of TV reception and number of channels is abit poor.

"Best Western Plus Grand Hotel Lusaka"
Jane G, 11 Décembre 2018

A good hotel located in a serene environment that is particularly ideal for conferences and business activities. Easily accessible to major city localities and the international airport. The rooms are spacious and well kept but most importantly the food is a cross mixture that will be appreciated by all cultures

"Safe option at a reasonable proce"
bluevcone, 19 Novembre 2018

Stayed 4 nights at this hotel, 3 for work and then an extra one as my partner joined me before we headed out on holiday. This is a good basic standard hotel. Nothing fancy and a bit out dated but rooms reasonable and clean, staff helpful and food just about OK.

"I will return"
sirjookston, 17 Octobre 2018

I stayed at the hotel, Oct 11-18, 2018. Very friendly staff at reception and restaurant. The room was clean, adequately furnished, eaily accessible, and comfortable. My room was kept immaculate by Angela Shira, a smiling friendly young lady who took pride in her work. I will miss her. The only thing lacking is a gym/spa. I tried clicking to rate SERVICE, LOCATION, and SLEEP QUALITY, but there was no response so I will simply write 5 for each. I will gladly return to the Best Western Plus Lusaka Grand Hotel.

"AAAAAAMMMMMAAAZZZZIIIIINNNNNGG"

"Top Notch Hospitality"
livmargaret, 15 Octobre 2018

I stayed at the Hotel for 3 nights. the hospitality was great and the guest relations manager Patience was very helpful, every morning when i would go down for breakfast she would make time to find out how i spent my night and if there were any complaints. i would definitely recommend this hotel. the only reason i gave the hotel a 3 star is because of the state of the toilet in my room am guessing its just a plumbing problem that can be fixed.

"A great first experience "
Henk K, 11 Octobre 2018

Would recommend Best Western Hotel to all and anyone who comes and visit Zambia. Staff efficiency, friendliness are above what is being expected. A great hotel to stay in for any kind of visit. Will come again.

"Enjoyed my stay at best western"
nnotsyula, 10 Octobre 2018

Booking was fast , booked on Tuesday and the hotel responded immediately . The airport transfers were efficient, check in was great , the front desk helped with a taxi ,the taxi guy was great ,I had dinner , Indian meal the food was good came quickly , waitress was helpful ,so professional , the room is clean , the shower gel made me feel relax , even though the renovations are going on the room is quiet , the recommendations are the swimming pool which is a draw back because the renovations are underway , I was disappointed in not having to use the swimming pool , and the gym should be in house .

"Conference"
lyseychi, 09 Octobre 2018

Visited the hotel for a conference , faced challenges like the air conditioner that was either too hot or too cold plus the WiFi connections,, however the banquet manager and the guest service managers (male and female) were both prompt on rectifying the issues , and I was well pleased at how they responded to the matters and how can one forget the complimentary fruit platters that my colleague and I received. All in all the experience was very good, friendly staff ,location is convenient .This hotel is determined on delivering the best service, keep it up.

"Great ambience"
abbashaider441, 09 Octobre 2018

Great front desk staff , helpful staff neat rooms , breakfast was amazing , didn't have lunch and dinner because I slept over and left early the following day checking in was swift, value for money and the location is convenient

"Hospitality"
Colodia M, 04 Octobre 2018

I received excellent service for the hotel staff. They were all very cheerful and willing to help at all times. I didn't order any room service however there was a variety of fresh organic food to choose from.

"The New Renovated Best Western"
Sami E, 03 Octobre 2018

The rooms are quite large which I love, the breakfast was always excellent, the staff were very friendly and helpful, unfortunately the pool was still under renovation so I couldn't have a swim. The hotel overall is clean and neat. I am a frequent traveler to Lusaka and this was one of the best hotels I stayed in.

"The new best western"
katejoseph574, 01 Octobre 2018

I always travel to Lusaka and best western at least twice a year , I must say I appreciate the improvements, although there are some challenges like bathroom smells , but I believe it is understandable since it's under renovation. I always impressed by the staff , very helpful and dedicated , I will however single out Patience , who greeted me as I walked into the hotel , always smiling and instantly made me feel at home , she would regularly check on me to see if I was comfortable. She made my stay even better . Restaurant food especially the breakfast was great , improvements on dinner and lunch will be appreciated. All in all , I was pleased .

"Not fit for business visitor. "
swamysn2013, 29 Septembre 2018

I am finally writing this review after staying for close to a week here with a break for a day when we travelled out of Lusaka. We checked in late evening last week and went to sleep, I was woken up by a flow of water from the Ac unit. It was dripping inside whole night. In the morning the wash basin water wasn't draining and couldn't brush, shave till a plumber set it right. A lot of time was wasted in this. Then the bath the shower was not working properly. I complained to the hotel and they immediately changed me to a better room. This was very prompt and I appreciate their intent and speed. Next day again the sink had a problem and was set right. But everything else was good. The only area where they refuse to budge is the restaurant. The worst performing department in this hotel. They refuse to improve nor take any requests seriously. One or 2 days is fine. But when we stay for a week and have same menu (Indian) every single day it's not comfortable. We mentioned this many times and nothing has changed. chef cares a damn about requirement and denies every single request. The worst part is that on a Sunday also the items are same and even the bread toaster doesn't work. I am seriously tired of this attitude and behaviour. The hotel is under renovation everything seems to be changing for good. But not the restaurant. Unless that changes this hotel would be a no return for me.

"Be careful"
Mando M, 29 Septembre 2018

On my visit the receptionist claimed my card had declined so charged my card twice. Luckily went through my online banking and discovered I had been charged twice, I notified the manager who then said it was no big deal as apparently the first payment had declined so the bill won't go through even though the charge was visible in my upcoming payments and if it did they would notify me. A few days later I realised they had taken the payment twice on two different days. I again notified the manager who claimed she had emailed me in regards to my refund and till today am awaiting for the email or even a phone call. Luckily I travelled back to lusaka and was able to get my money in person. The hotel it self was not bad if you are just looking for a place to lay your head for the night and nothing else.

"Great Place to stay"
AmosP53, 28 Septembre 2018

The room is well maintained. The room is also very clean. The room is very spacious Breakfast fantastic. The choices are great for the fruity type. Staff members are very friendly and always at hand to help.

"re.. Grand Western Best Plus"
rajeevmooloo, 24 Septembre 2018

from the last visit i had where i stayed for seven weeks there has been an enormous amount of improvements and renovations that has been very impressive giving the hotel a more classy and executive look. The hotel staff always tend to show the utmost friendliness and professionalism offering excellent service at any given time making me feel very at home and treated as a family member, making my stay a home away from home. i don't ever see myself residing in any other hotel during my trips and visits to Lusaka. i humbly thank one and all for this.

"amazing food, lunch was great"

This was very dirty hotel and I asked to be moved 4 times each time the room got worse .all the rooms had wholes in the bath. The toilets was leaking , paid for a upgraded room which didn't exist . The hotel hotel is definitely worth avoiding , the awful hotel ever in Lusaka .

"Good for business trip"
MTolik, 16 Août 2018

Friendly management and staff, clean rooms and great internet. Breakfast is fair and it's evident that they try to give great service to guests. I wish to say thank you to reservation department especially to Veronica, she is doing her job very well. Location is very convenient, with vicinity to downtown. Will definitely stay this place next time and recommend to everybody. In addition wish to express appreciation for shuttle service- that's so useful for late arrivals to airports. Thanks

"Not Great, Lots of Improvement required"
chillier455, 08 Juin 2018

I knew the hotel was being renovated so that didn't phase me. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful and I must commend Michael at reception for his assistance. The room was clean and had a working desk etc. The bathroom was clean, water pressure was good although shower water was not very hot in the mornings and the shower sprayed onto the bathroom floor. The issues that bothered me though were 1) The king size mattress was so destroyed it had collapsed on one side. that combined with torn duvet covers and sheets that didn't fit was a bit poor 2) The smell from the toilets as you walked to the restaurant is rather off putting. 3) The breakfast buffet is adequate but when you advertise bacon and grilled tomatoe don't let the cooks tell people that the hotel has run out 4) generally the hotel has very little atmosphere and vibe. The bar is empty and there just is no bustle

"Lovely staff, a bit noisy but a great breakfast"
EmsAlex, 12 Mai 2018

This hotel has wonderful staff who are very helpful at all times. Unfortunately I was staying at the back of the hotel where staff tend to make a lot of noise from 6am onwards. This is not a problem at the front of the hotel so if you can select a room, do so. The breakfast is amazing!

"Room was disgusting"
Carolyn G, 11 Mai 2018

Plumbing issues - bath tub wouldn't drain. Toilet was leaking on the floor. Room smelled. Bath towel had a huge stain on it. Definitely will NOT be staying here again. The only redeeming quality was the internet was actually very good, but still not good enough to head back there.

"Mediocrre is a compliment for this hotel!"
143lynn, 07 Mai 2018

I am shocked by some of the other reviews so checked dates to see if they were recent and they are. I've never experienced anything like this -- rooms are rather large, décor looks frozen in time from the 50s, all that is fine. But upon taking a shower, took forever to get hot water, then the shower wand was only able to spit out a few drops, the drain didn't drain, no bathmat -- 1 small and 1 large towel only. TV barely worked, remote did not. Phone down to desk early in the morning to ask what all the noise was and was told the hotel is undergoing renovations. We got a private room for a business meeting -- horrible video conference ability, no plugs in the room, next to the bar which has a very noisy juice machine, and we have to ask hotel staff to turn on and off the lights in the room because it's off in the staff room. Could not be a more painful stay.

""Nice place to stay""
Kristen S, 02 Mai 2018

We really loved the hotel. Nice and clean rooms, very good location and friendly staff. The hotel is under renovation but we didn't note the noise because we always came back in the evenings. I'll recommend to everyone.

"Perfect name: Grand Hotel"
_sandramfickler, 27 Avril 2018

After several trips to Lusaka, I stayed for the first time at Best Western Plus Lusaka Grand Hotel and this is going to be for sure my hotel every time I come to Lusaka. Clean and very spacious rooms. Friendly staff, good service and great food.

"Mediocre at best"
jenhugs81, 02 Avril 2018

For a Best Western hotel this is below average. The rooms are comfortable and decent size. The bed is hard. We had problems with the plumbing and the toilet did not flush properly - it was very annoying. The towels and linen are quite old and could do with replacing. The breakfast is not bad, standard budget hotel range! We left something in the room and when we got back they "claimed" it was not there. That was a bit disappointing as it wasn't really anything of value to someone else. Wasn't a terrible stay, just expected more for the brand.

"Worse Ever "
Akin G, 13 Mars 2018

I am travelling all the world over because of my job. I ve been to many African countries and stayed in different budget hotels. But by far, this hotel is the worse ever hotel I stayed so far. Dirty, terrible service, very old and damaged furniture, the towels are in brown color :(.

"Friendly Staff & Great Food"
Travis B, 08 Mars 2018

The service at this location was great! The General Manager and staff were very helpful and quick to respond to questions and requests. They allowed us to extend our check-out time without hesitation due to our departure time from Lusaka. Although they will be renovating the hotel over the next couple of months, the rooms were great as is. The breakfast was amazing, as was the Indian food we ordered one night for dinner! I would definitely stay here in the future.

"Great location & Exceptional Omelettes!"
RossJennings, 04 Mars 2018

Spent a weekend at the Best Western and it was a great stop off before heading on to Malawi. Location is fantastic (a short walk from Levy mall & restaurants) and the service was good. Food, namely the breakfast omelettes & Paneer Masala (!!), were surprisingly tasty! A big thank you to Rodney for all his help (I lost a bag on a bus & he couldn't have been more helpful), and also to Michael the manager for being so welcoming.

"i had an astonishing stay here"
Joan N, 28 Février 2018

i traveled for my fam trip with our staff this place is so amazing and we stayed here for 4 nights surely can recommend your services to anyone traveling to Zambia to use this hotel for any travelers they have nice food and great coffee thanks i recommend your services

"Very helpful staff"
Fligh, 08 Février 2018

We were not disappointed with this hotel. The pool was shut as it was being renovated, but that didn't matter as the weather was rainy. We found the staff very helpful and attentive. Our room was a good size with a large bed, wifi was free and fast. The property was clean and it had a large restaurant and bar. The breakfast was free and very good and it had a big selection. We hired a driver/guide from the travel agency next door, we had a city tour, he also took us around the city to run errands and finally on our last day drove us to the airport. We found him to be especially nice and very helpful.

"Excellent Budget Hotel"
ankeet_sinha, 22 Janvier 2018

So on my first visit to Zambia, I had a lot of choices to make but decided on Best Western and I was not disappointed. They charged me 95 USD for B&B and gave me a good room on the 5th floor (Room 503). While the hotel is budget but I would give it 3.5 stars. The staff are good and friendly. I also had a scare on the first day when I felt I lost my passport for a few hours and felt the front office staff had not given to me. The guy on duty along with another staff member called Brian helped me out by checking the video footage and concluded that I had the passport which we subsequently found in my room. Now about the food. The food in Best Western is quite good and the breakfast I had was among my better experiences. Even the lunch which we had on the last day was good and nice variety. Derek who helped with our conference was good and their conference facilities are adequate. The location of the hotel is quite close to the city and Levy junction mall is nearby although you should not walk till there. Another brilliant thing and this is where hotels mess up, is the wifi was very good. Go to Best Western and keep an open mind and you wont be disappointed. I know I was not and I will continue to go there while I am in Lusaka.

"Airport shuttle was quality ! Great bar staff."
greenleader1984, 15 Janvier 2018

Stayed at this Hotel because they had an Airport Shuttle and close to Lusaka city centre. On arrival the lifts did not work which made getting the luggage to the room difficult. The room was very tired and not too clean. Had an evening meal in restaurant and everyone in our party was very disappointed that we never ate there again in the evening. Breakfast was much better and had no problems. One half of the pool was closed due to floor damage. The bar staff were the highlight of our stay - thank you for making us all so welcome. I have to say that the Airport Shuttle and bar was the best thing about our stay at this hotel. It served its purpose. I will not rush back, as this Hotel overall was very tired and lacked basic regular up keep maintenance in just so many of areas. It felt very run down and is not the standard I would expect from a Best Western.

"Super-friendly staff"
SwissSmurf, 28 Décembre 2017

The hotel itself is not very charming and the rooms are a bit run down. Seems to focus on Chinese guests. However, location is good: central and shopping malls, bus station, national museum, CBD within walking distance. And the stuff is very friendly and helpful.

"No where near Best Western standards, stay with lowered expectations"
HimanshuSharma, 07 Décembre 2017

Positive Location is reasonable, malls are accisable Levy Junction is just 5mins walk away and Manda Hill is 5mins by cab. Easy access to CBD, Cairo road. About 28kms from airport. Fairly safe location. Busy till 8pm on most days. External surroundings are clean and well kept. Ample parking space. Good seating arrangement around the pool area. Toilets are clean, however the tubs are enamel painted. What's not so good 1. Uncourteous staff - as I entered the hotel got down from the cab (around 4pm) there was no one to help me with the luggage. That was just a beginning. 2. It took almost 20mins to check in, I was a prepaid customer. So the hotel already had the money. It was too long from my previous best Western experiences. * Prior to arrival I even emailed them, never got a response. Even called and requested a room on 4th floor (based on the reviews). I was promised but the room I was given was completely different. 3. After a 15hr journey inside an airtube all the way from India to Zambia. You are waiting outside the room and the key fails to work, The guy rushes back - comes again after 5-7mins and the key again fails. Then he tells me to wait as he calls for the maintenance. I had to request him to please allot me a room whatever it may be. Finally another room which was decorated with ditry carpet, cobwebs, half hanging curtain with stains. To add to all the agony there was no charging point in room 207. Had no other option but to stay. After a lot of request next day morning the room was finally changed to a twin bed room, which was relatively clean. The hotel is carpetted but seems they don't have the apt equipment to Clean them. 4. Breakfast is reasonable, nothing to match other hotels of Best Western group I have stayed in Africa and Europe. The service is slow if you request something not laid down in the menu. 5. The lounge has poorly maintained sofas, unclean and worn out. You almost sink to the springs and wonder if there is any foam left (look at the image) 6. GYM is not in hotel complex, a cab will take you somewhere behind the hotel for the gym. I HOPE THE HOTEL TAKES THIS AS A FEEDBACK AND ACTS.

"This hotel at good location ,value for money"
Rashidshaikh26, 03 Décembre 2017

This hotel I stayed first time , Price is Ok , having specious room, comfortable bed , surprised with Restaurant serving Indian dishes , Lunch buffet with reasobaly Price ,staff good , over all good experiance worth to stay again

"Unpleasant experience"
JC V, 15 Novembre 2017

This was my first visit to Lusaka and this hotel has tainted my experience badly. Very old and kitsch decor, old dirty, worn out carpets in rooms. Worst mattress I have ever encountered. This is not what I would expect from an International brand and at that price I was expecting much more, breakfast also not up to standard. Maybe catering for the local African tourist but far from being an international standard, which is disappointing as we have some very nice hotels in Africa in that price range. Won't recommend this hotel to anyone.

"A good place for a short stay"
Vivienne H, 25 Octobre 2017

It's a nice place with friendly staff. The rooms were well furnished with a comfortable bed. Breakfast was good even though it was the same everyday. In addition, the wifi reception was strong and easily accessible within the hotel. However, the barking dogs from the block of flats next to the hotel kept me awake during my stay. Despite this, I would still return to the hotel because of its value for money.

"Lusaa Best Western"
padraigo569, 22 Octobre 2017

Excellent hotel; well situated for both city attractions (such as they are!) and airport; friendly, helpful staff, wonderful breakfast, overall great value for money; lovely pool. Bar is not great. Highly recommended.

"Stay at Best Western"
Sandeep M, 13 Octobre 2017

The stay at BW Lusaka is not as per the Best Western standards and you really feel the male staff is not upto the mark when it comes to services. Overall as a very high users of BW services I felt they are much below their levels.

"Non-existent Service. Mosquitoes everywhere!"
Rishadalive, 05 Octobre 2017

I'm on my 3rd room change. First room Aircon didn't work. Hot as hell outside but you can't open the windows because of the traffic noise and the mosquitoes. Even with fly screens the rooms are full of malaria causing mosquitoes. I asked for repellant and they said there is a machine to use but you sleep with the mozzies. Food is over priced and not good quality. The worst part is the service. Location is in the center but far with heavy traffic from the main mall areq

"Well used old Hotel"
373larsn, 26 Septembre 2017

Restaurant food was bad, TV system was old and outdated and did not live up to modern High definition standard. Wifi was up and down and unstable. Hotel though is situated in a good area within walking distance from a shopping complex with restaurants

"great atmosphere and awesome staff"
bferna29, 18 Septembre 2017

This hotel is well situated for business travel in Lusaka, the atmosphere is great and the food is excellent, from breakfast to a light snack and the dinner menu is awesome. The staff are very friendly and do everything to make your stay pleasurable. Definitely will go back.

"Gloomy but clean and central"
felixhim, 08 Septembre 2017

The Hotel is clean and the staff is helpful and nice. The rooms however are gloomy, smelly (carpteded floor!) and lack of any atmosphere - maybe for a ghost movie or that kind. BE VERY CARFUL WITH THE SHOWER!! If you turn on the hot water it comes out boiling. This is not a joke. Serious danger!

"Good hotel for short stays"
Raj S, 30 Août 2017

Checked in late around 2.30 am in the morning. The reception staff was there to greet me with a smile. The room was clean well done. Not a very spacious room but not cramped either. The washroom was clean. I had some problems with the shower but was fixed the next day. You have a electric kettle for tea & coffee. A safe is also available to keep your valuables. I also saw a mini bar which can be stuffed with once you have requested the hotel. Every staff that I came across were polite, friendly and helpful. The make you feel at home. The restaurant is spacious and has average choice of menu. Breakfast spread was same almost everyday but there were several items on the table. They have a bar which is well stocked. There is a pool too. Location is good and city is very nearby. Don't take the taxi service from the hotel they are way too expensive. Taxi from the city is better. I ended up paying $100 for the full day after negotiations. Overall I liked the place.

"Good hotel!"
Telus, 30 Août 2017

Despite all problems I encountered to get in touch with the hotel prior to our stay, I must say that everything was good and nothing disturbed the overall success of our holiday in Zambia! Of course, there still are many things that need to be improved, such as the shuttle service from the airport (the first time was not easy at all to find it; the second time we had to wait almost two hours!!!; the third... we took a taxi!), but after the first stay, we decided to return three more times and we never had to regret for reserving again the same hotel!!! Front desk personnel is helpful and friendly; rooms are spacious and comfortable. Some problems with showers (in some rooms it was impossible to avoid water on the floor!). Special mention to the breakfast: very good choise and quality!

"Two day stay"
Bramwel J, 31 Juillet 2017

Very nice hotel in a siren environment. It's not far from the Airport. Breakfast is fantastic. Dinner so good. Rooms are spacious, modern with free WiFi and tv with international channels. Very convenient place to stay. It's a four star hotel and worth the money. I recommend for anyone who visits Zambia and wants to spend a night in Lusaka. The room rates are affordable.

"Comfortable and friendly hotel "
PoppyAlice, 21 Juillet 2017

I very much enjoyed my stay here. The room was comfy and the staff friendly and helpful. Location-wise it was a 10-15 minute drive from the main hub for business travellers. This didn't bother me - the hotel was much better value than other options, and it was fairly straightforward to get everywhere I needed to get to by taxi. There is also a good shopping centre just a ten minute walk from the hotel - with lots of shops and some nice cafes. Highly recommended if you're looking for a comfortable and reasonably priced hotel in Lusaka.

"Recommendation"
johnstonec, 20 Juillet 2017

Its a good hotel with good service provision, access and security. I recommend it to you in case you are looking for accommodation especially if you want to have easy access to Lusaka CBD. The amount you pay is lower compared to other hotels in the same category. Good value for money. Free late check out options available.

"Good place"
emitabhromud, 10 Juillet 2017

Nice hotel with value for money.Worth a trip once in life with friends here since it's got spacious rooms. Breakfast missed some crucial veg options but can be improved on. Staff are good and can be counted on to help.

"Disappointed"
Walter19781, 10 Juillet 2017

The staff failed to assist me saying the rate i wanted was for online booking. We tried to log on to the internet and failed, so i ended up going to Cool Breeze Lodges, only to discover they had nice rooms, great Wi-fi. Good food. I will now only go to this hotel if Cool Breeze is full.

"Reasonably good "
brijeshboza, 10 Juillet 2017

Best Western Plus Lusaka Grand is a good property. Located on the Main Street with many malls and food joints around. God for Indian travellers as this hotel has an Indian Chef and serves good choice of vegetarian dishes.

"Best Western Plus Lusaka"
beckerc2017, 27 Juin 2017

this is a good value for money hotel that ticks all the friendliness, neatness, convenience and service boxes for a 4* hotel in Lusaka but needs a bit of work on the food (breakfast and dinner, quality and service) side.... still, highly recommended for business travel in Lusaka!

"Just getting better"
Thirstie, 22 Juin 2017

We stayed again at the Best Western last week and we are seeing great improvements. This hotel is transforming as time goes by with facade changes and amenity improvements. It is still the best value for money hotel in Lusaka with other 4/5 star hotels that have tiny rooms and even tinier bathrooms charging 3 times what you pay at the Best Western. It really is our go to hotel. Wifi excellent!

"Value for money"
archiechep, 18 Juin 2017

The hotel offers you value for money. The staff are friendly enough although they may take time to respond to a request. Ask for a room facing away from the main road if you are a light sleeper like me. Get enough internet vouchers when checking in as you might be logged out at any point.

"Disappointing on so many levels"
Jakes N, 15 Juin 2017

At first this looked to be a good place. But I was rather disappointed. When you shower, the whole bathroom is flooded. The bed was very hard and uncomfortable. The phone in the room was not working. The TV connection was terrible at its best. The food was very expensive and not particularly good. On the positive side was that the room was clean and the staff were very friendly. I was also impressed to have a free airport shuttle service. With quite a number of hotels in Lusaka operating in this price range, I will probably think twice before staying here again.

"Terrible"
richardwJ6871LC, 11 Juin 2017

The rooms where dirty, the act made a hell of a noise and all instructions are in Chinese, the breakfast where slow to come from the grilled and really tasteless and bland food. The bedroom lights are not clearly marked how to switch them on and offf.

"Reasonable price-performance-ratio, functional but not cosy"
York L, 30 Mai 2017

It is the second time that I used the Best Western (I avoid the term "Grand Hotel", because the hotel has nothing to do with this) -- only because a reservation had been made without my knowledge. I wouldn't have booked it, because the first stay was rather poor: The room doors didn't work properly and I had to wait in the middle of the night in spite of free rooms, the WLAN didn't work at all over days and the breakfast was available late and was very limited. The second time then was much better, though the easiest improvement is still on breakfast (a little more choice, a little nicer room decoration...).

"No attention before arrival"
Telus, 16 Mai 2017

We booked 3 double rooms and try to contact the hotel in several ways for information before arrival: no reply at all. We sent e-mail to the address provided in their web site, and also posed a question through Trip Advisor: no reply! If this is the attention they assure to guests, we will probably cancel the reservation and go to another hotel, even though we are Best Western Rewards member since many years! Very bad.

"Not the best hotel for business stay"
CeeT25, 10 Mai 2017

Booked hotel for 5 nights. Was checked into a smelly stuffy room. Asked to be changed and did not get a satisfactory response till today with 2 nights left. My colleagues had similar experiences and even though our rooms were changed, its not the best first impression. WiFi is not stable which is not good if you are here for business like i am. Given the cost of hotels in Lusaka, its ok if you are looking for a basic hotel for a short stay but will not work if you stay longer than 2 nights. On the plus side, the staff are good and polite. Perhaps the only reason i stayed is that front office staff tried their very best to be accommodating but hindered as management has to make decisions. All in all not happy with my stay and would not be hotel of choice on my return to Zambia.

"Lusaka Best Western"
padraigo569, 23 Avril 2017

Excellent, welcoming, value for money hotel; centrally located, convenient to all the major shopping malls, restaurants and the airport.Helpful, caring staff.Highly recommended. Breakfast is a real highlight.

"Bad hotel!"
anafilipavilela, 12 Avril 2017

Everything dirty, smelly and lots of mosquitos Bad service, breakfeast even worst Staff not nice. Rooms badly clean, toilet doesn't work and no hot water. Old hotel needing lots of renovations Good location

"Good "
mrtravelalot777, 18 Mars 2017

Good hotel. Rooms are functionally good. They are a bit dated but this is Zambia! Staff are friendly and helpful and all speak English. The hotel is safe and secure. The restaurant is cheap price and the food is ok. This is cheap place to stay, but you get what you pay for... It's fairly close to the city centre. It has a pool too. The hall ways carry a lot of noise so if your a light sleeper ask for a room at the back of the hotel. This is my hotel of choice for 3 star accommodation in Zambia. I'll definitely return and stay here.

"Terrible - don't be fooled by price"
Coldm, 11 Mars 2017

Awful hotel. V old, smelly. Internet did not work, many other guests complaining. The staff were very nice but there was no manager there able to sort anything out . Left for another hotel within 1 hr. Still having a nightmare getting my $ back!

"Value for money"
archiechep, 01 Février 2017

Great hotel with amazing staff. Esmeralda will help you with what you need. If you need some quiet, choose a room on 3rd+ floor preferably on the left. Breakfast is served well but you will need to put in an order for specific items. WiFi is terribly disappointing. I suggest you get a modem. Room service menu is a bit disappointing as it does not have the usually comfort foods you would find on a room service menu. The TV has limited channels but you will probably find something on say the news.

"Pleasant stay as always"
kennethk16, 16 Janvier 2017

This hotel gives you value for money with unpretentious presentation of their craft in a peaceful and quiet environment. The check in was quick with very friendly staff and the check out was equally matched. The only downside I found was in the bathroom which had some dump scent likely from poor ventilation otherwise it was a great experience staying at this hotel and I look forward to staying there again on my next visit to Lusaka.

"Great Hospitality, Food & Stay !"
Harsh K, 27 Novembre 2016

Great Hotel to Stay, Enjoy & Work ! Hospitable Staff - From Sales Manager from Ms.Veronica to Maintenance Manager Mr.Bradley. Too much attentive and giving their best for the comfort of Guests. Food - Mr.Rawat (Chef), put their maximum to match your taste level and putting their all hard work just to listen that 'Its good' and up to your satisfaction. Cuisine : Indian / Chinese / Continental etc - all perfect. These are very rare phenomena at Hotels in Africa. Except few lower staff (room cleaning staff), all was perfect and appreciable or my 20 days stay. All staff in the hotel work as a Team to give their best which is very very rare. I would say the Staff of this Hotel is an asset for the Management, I have traveled more than 25 countries but this kind of staff is very very rare. Location - Best location nearby Business Hub, Embassies, Hospitals, Malls, Taxi Stand. Advise - Swimming Pool shall be converted to the proper swimming pool. - Gym shall be made available inhouse. - Weekend parties / Live Bands shall be organised to make stay more enjoyable. - Grill / Steak House food shall be made available. - Proper Massage & Spa center shall be made available with Russian and Chinese Staff. My recommendation to this Hotel is 100%.

"Business mans hotel - with friendly service"
918seanb, 20 Novembre 2016

I've visited the Lusaka Grand a couple of times and have seen the Hotel improve over the year. The hotel is struggling to find it's market - at the moment it's midway between business traveler and select tourist. As a business man hotel the facilities fall short - lacking private meeting place or a entertainment/bar/lounge that is welcoming... as a tourist hotel it lack privacy in the swimming pool area and guest have to cress the parking lot. What is great about the Hotel is the appeal to those travelers for short stay (2-4days) in that it offer value, accesiblity and is well situated to the malls, and amenities for governmental business. It also has great access to the Airport and such. The Hotel shuttle services is excellent and like all the staff offer a great welcome. It's a pity the facilities and are aging and not well maintained - however, any compliant is addressed with minimum fuss. I return here often as the it's great to see the manage hands-on in constantly improving the facility with the service friendly staff.

"Night of a Star"
benasbanda, 19 Novembre 2016

I spent 2 nights here during the Zed Top 10 Presenter Search Finale of which I won. Awesome place to stay and great hospitality. Centrally located aswell. As it is near the airport, Zambia's best shopping malls and Lusaka's central business district.

"Great location, even better price"
Thirstie, 18 Novembre 2016

Zambia is a particularly expensive country so it is refreshing to find a hotel that doesn't burn a hole in your pocket! The BW is comfortable and exceptionally well located and I score them 5 as you get a decent bang for your buck. Their food is pretty amazing too - watch out for the HUGE portions! They have a combo menu with more western food mixed with Asian and, again, is very affordable. There are Chinese chefs wandering around so this probably explains the good quality. Decor is a bit disappointing but not enough to mark them down. The hotel used to be called the Golden Bridge and was decorated in Chinese style but has been revamped slowly but surely by the BW and is looking great! There is an excellent travel agent on the property too if you want to book elsewhere in Zambia. Just speak to Rachel. Staff are excellent! I loved the cold towels on arrival and the fact that the reception staff stand to greet you. Not even the Taj Pamodzi staff do that. There is always someone to walk you to the elevator in case you remember something you will need later. We also met Michael (GM) and Eric (Exec Chef) and they were super helpful and kind.

"Nice place to stay"
2015BHARATH, 10 Novembre 2016

I was there for 3 nights in this hotel. Actually checked in late in night after 9 pm. Staff were courteous enough to complete the formalities & accommodate me quickly, since I was pretty tired..Appreciate Ennes & Brian in Reception.. Wifi, pool, etc all are good. Complimentary Buffet breakfast needs change of menu daily. For all 3 days, more or less Menu was same.

"Reasonably priced and exellent service but"
Carmel M, 06 Novembre 2016

This hotel was pretty well priced and the service really was excellent. Everything i asked they helped with. There were though a few challenges - there was a bottle of doom in my bathroom which made me nervous as i am very scared of cockroaches and i wondered what the bottle meant. And on the second day of my stay there was a huge cockroach in the bathroom - the hotel cleaned it out but it was not pleasant. There were very few TV channels which was OK but there was also very little to eat for breakfast if you dont eat meat. As i say everyone was very helpful so its regrettable - i hope these issues can be addressed.

"Neither here nor there"
Krystle K, 04 Novembre 2016

It's an okay hotel. Lots of things are an issue though. The good: They have pretty good Wi-Fi in the rooms. The hotel is nice albeit dated. But the real asset this hotel has is friendliness of service. As found in many African hotels, service can be slow, but I have really enjoyed the kind natured and helpful attitude of staff. The bad: Power cuts in the evening are frequent, but very short. Have had some problems with cockroaches...two parents and a baby roach have left us this week! Watch out for Diwali as you will not sleep with all the fireworks that are literally right outside your window. Also I hear rooms facing the front of the hotel are much better. Overall, an okay stay for a week, but may not have stayed here if on a longer mission.

"Three nights in Lusaka"
andreamagnano, 29 Octobre 2016

Excellent staff, always ready to help. Rooms are spacious, clean and silent at night. It's very easy to reach on the East Road also at peak hours, the perfect hotel for both travelling tourists and business men.

"Excellent staff!!"
BangkokBunny, 27 Octobre 2016

My husband and I stayed at the Best Western Plus for one night whilst travelling through and we were overwhelmed by how welcoming and friendly the staff were. The room was comfortable, bathroom was good (great shower) and breakfast buffet was delicious (great egg chef!). Highly recommend a stay here!

"A comfortable start to our Zambian adventure!"
StevePam, 15 Octobre 2016

We spent our first night in Zambia at this hotel before embarking on our 11 day safari adventure. The room was very comfortable and the staff helpful and friendly. On the one occasion that we needed some assistance, the manager, Esmeralda was very helpful and looked after our request quickly and efficiently. We would certainly stay there again if necessary.

"Very Good"
SE s, 10 Octobre 2016

This is a very good hotel close to the city centre. The reception was very good. The ambiance is very good. The housekeeping is very good. The breakfast is average. The dinner was also average. The staff excellent.

"Great place to stay in Lusaka...but..."
mongezim869, 08 Octobre 2016

It was with trepidation as evening approached and it was time for me to go to my hotel for the first time after an 18-hr day. And as I entered the hotel I was still worried, even though after the great reception by Bryan, I shouldn't have worried at all. The staff is great and friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean, well appointed rooms. I had rooms on the 3rd floor. The beds are a little firm but it was fine with me. The in-room menu is not too bad, albeit limited. Limited TV channels, but hardly an issue since I don't care too much for TV when travelling. Good enough wi-fi. Once in a while it would drop- but in general it works.I had hot water when I needed, I love the idea of separate toilet and shower. The buffet in the morning is nothng to write home about but it suffices. The one thing though I can speak against this hotel is attention to detail. For example at reception the front desk glass top is is scratched and soiled- that doesn't inspire confidence for the first time guest like I was. In the rooms there's this...thing- like a bedside table with a felt top that hould either be replaced by something wooden or else be covered with stained glass. It is very dirty and ruins the rest of the room set up. Guys those towels don't belong in a hotel. All raggedy and dull, it's one thing I wish I had brought along. Finally- The pool area is very nice, but it really would make a big difference if they polished that beautiful wood platform at least twice a day. It's a great hotel and I will return there again- but I will bring my towels until new towels are purchased.

"A gem in Lusaka - if only for the well trained staff"
918seanb, 07 Octobre 2016

I have seen this hotel over the last year (and a bit) develop in to a top notch facility at an affordable price. Although I'm not sure which market this Hotel is aiming at, our business has been using The Grand as a business venue for the past 12 month where it provides a suitable location for those doing business in city center and a little further the governmental agencies (only 10mins drive away) counting the notorious Lusaka traffic. It is not offering a vibrant nigth life in the pub - it is not really focusing on the tour group and amenities for tourists - but it does offer a function stay with staff and a management team that are focused on making every guest stay as comfortable possible. Although, the business center facilities could be drastically improved to offer the business traveler a greater service. Ask for a room on the 4th floor - way from the noise great east road.

"Nice, well located, friendly hotel."
Antwanbee, 06 Octobre 2016

Having previously stayed at Radisson and Inter-Continental on our recent visits to Lusaka and not being very impressed by either we decided to give this smaller hotel a try. Glad we did as we had a much nicer experience here. Rooms are small but perfectly adequate if you are out and about but what really makes this hotel are the very friendly, welcoming and helpful staff and the good choice of nice food. They also have a nice little pool area where you can sit. We will definitely be preferring this hotel over the "big 2" in future as their service levels are so much better.

"Very good value."
Norman G, 24 Septembre 2016

This used to be called the Golden Bridge Hotel and most people think of it as that. Nice friendly attentive reception staff. Needs some TLC and I take it that Best Western standards will make that happen. Spent three nights there but only had a light dinner on one evening. Breakfast was rather hit and miss but there was a very nice lady making omelettes to order.

"Good Hotel, Good value"
Ben S, 21 Septembre 2016

I'm American so my review is from that viewpoint. Most important to me is security, cleanliness and limited critters. Previously, I've stayed at more expensive hotels to ensure these standards were met. This trip I was in Lusaka for a month and needed something more economical. This hotel was wonderful. Price was reasonable and all needs were met. Positives: The staff is the friendliest I have have ever encountered. Rooms are clean and were fumigated twice while I was there. I'd rate the beds a B. Atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable. Breakfast was great. Price was fair. Negatives: Rooms are simple and a bit smaller. TV channels are limited (about 10 - 3 news, 3 soccer, 2 local and 2 movie). Restaurant is a bit more "local" than some of the pricier hotels. (Example: Fish and chips was a whole fish with fries. For the record it tasted great and I didn't mind but some do.) In conclusion, I loved my stay and will go there again. I highly recommend it.

"Great value in Lusaka"
bindiakasamira, 09 Septembre 2016

I went here for business and, at 100 a night, Best Western is much more affordable than other options in Lusaka, with good rooms, air conditioning, nice grounds, restaurant/bar, great hotel staff and comfortable bed. It is pretty centrally located with a good fast food burgers and ice cream restaurant down the street. I would definitely come back

"Great staff/breakfast. Decent hotel for one night. "
LAMMER13, 08 Septembre 2016

For Lusaka, the room rates were moderate. We stayed one night before flying on to Livingstone. Hotel will charge $30 per person transport to / from the Lusaka airport. Take a taxi for $20 total! Breakfast is included and very good. Rooms have air conditioning but need updating. We were fine for a one night stay over. You can walk to the mall about 10-15 minutes away, but that is about it. Not much to do in Lusaka. The pool area is nice but too many mosquitos to sit outside for a drink. Use your Deet ! Staff was fantastic. Note: don't lose your room card. $6 fee. Never had that happen at a Best Western before or any other hotel for that matter.

"Short Stay"
rajibnarayans, 08 Septembre 2016

I felt excellent @100 USD/Night budget as lusaka hotels are very costly. Staffs are friendly,Good buffet breakfast, nice location and peaceful environment with great service. Moreover they offer you free airport pick up.

"Was I in China? Hotel staff only highlight"
JPychel, 08 Septembre 2016

I found out that the hotel was originally constructed by a Chinese company and it shows. The workmanship, design, furnishings, esthetics and overall appearance of the hotel is disappointing and resembled a hotel you would find in China. The bathrooms need a huge overhaul, especially the shower heads and new and warm lighting. The beds were a complete disappointment and I have 'NEVER' stayed at a hotel where mattresses were replaced by 2 inch foam and a mattress cover...embarrassing to say the least and totally unacceptable for a hotel chain like BW. The wifi was spotty and the hotel phone system non-existent (could not even make local calls from the room). The dining room looked cold and lacked any warmth and the food average and mediocre at best (especially the breakfast). In the evenings after 10pm the lights in the lobby were turned off and was pitch black until morning. If the hotel wants to conserve electricity they might want to consider installing light sensors in their guest room hallways which would reduce overall expenses substantially. I would like to mention that there was one 'HUGE POSITIVE' at the Lusaka Grand BW and that was the wonderful, friendly, professional staff working at this hotel. It is without a doubt not the staff's fault for the hotel's poor construction and present state of disarray. As a tour operator and wholesaler from Canada I sadly could not recommend this hotel until I return and see for myself that facilities have improved.

"Reasonably priced for Lusaka"
indie212, 01 Septembre 2016

I stayed at this hotel on a business trip recently having changed from another hotel which was a bad experience. The staff were friendly and helpful and check in was very quick. It is a fairly old designed hotel and the rooms are not very modern. The Wi-Fi is good but there is only a few satellite TV channels and no stopped mini bar. Food from the restaurant changes daily between Indian and Chinese and is very average. The breakfast has a good selection of European and African food and is ok. Did have a gym but I did not get time to use it when I was there. There is a large shopping mall on the other side of the highway which is a few minutes by taxi with a big supermarket, clothes shops, pharmacy, fast food etc. It's not very centrally located if you want to be near the city centre but did it is good for access to the universities full stop there are not a lot of amenities or shops in a short walking distance from the hotel. I would use this place again on my next visit to Lusaka.

"old style grandeur that promises more than it can deliver"
John W, 31 Août 2016

Old-style spaciousness that promises grandeur, but doesn't quite deliver. The staff are so friendly and helpful and personable, and this makes up for a lot while you are away from home. The effort is there, but there are some things that need upgrading. The entire set of towels and bathmats needs throwing out - past their use-by date by a decade. The restaurant menu and the cooking need an overhaul. Breakfast is fine, but after two evening meals in-house, for the SAME price, we dined out at the Intercontinental Savannah Restaurant and had a superb meal, twice as classy. A huge negative - the hotel should warn every customer whenever they hire the ballroom out for a function. A hotel room is a place to retreat for a rest ... not to endure foundation-shaking music 'til 2am. This is not acceptable. Should have been given the chance to go elsewhere. Or should have been given a refund. That said ... we'd return because it's so central to the CBD of Lusaka and the staff are wonderful people.

"Top quality hotel in Lusaka"
AndyBerge11, 14 Août 2016

Stayed here at the end of our trip to Zambia during our second trip to Lusaka. This is hotel is newly renovated and everything is really nice. Would definetly place this hotel at the same level as really nice European-standard hotels. Rooms and bathrooms very large and nice. My fiancee works in a hotel and when hearing this the General Manager asked if we wanted a tour of the hotel. He showed us all the changes that have been made during the last months and we were really impressed. The hotel provided us with free shuttle to the airport because we became a free member of the hotel-chain and also let us check out late because of a late flight out of Lusaka. The staff really went the extra mile to ensure that we enjoyed our stay. Only 5-10 minutes walking to the best shopping center in town and really close to the longdistance bus-station. Will definetly stay here next time.

"Just about Okay!!!"
Srivatsan, 14 Août 2016

While the hotel has a modern facade and layout, some of the amenities are ancient - like the air conditioning. Had to have my room changed twice - because of poor a/c, noise & mosquitoes. The pool & pool-side bar are A-class. B'fast is very sumptuous. No complaints whatsoever. One of the friendliest staff - in all of my worldwide travels. WiFi is indifferent. By evening/night, it is just about crawling.

"all round good packeag from hotel"
George O, 01 Août 2016

Good friendly service, excellent value for money. WiFi on the slow side but other than that all is excellent and delicious food. The menu also has a Indian and Chinese option. Clean and refreshing pool area for relaxation. The bar inside is also of high standards stocking a variety of wines, spirits, beers etc. Rooms is of high standard and very comfortable beds and nice decor in the rooms. The hotel is also very quiet and relaxing. I will recommend to stay at this hotel as the package offered is excellent value for money.

"Wrong on so many levels"
AVS38, 25 Juillet 2016

It's like visiting a house in a poor community . Marble and cheap imitation wood live side by side with ancient garish carpet. towel that are suppose to be white, but is gray and are stained. "mattress extensions" (refer to pictures) super slow internet and 5 working tv channels. friendly and helpful staff.

"Good Destination at Lusaka"
atulsharma73, 21 Juillet 2016

Location: Situated at the great Eastern Road, Lusaka. Check In: Reception staff has good communication skills with quick check in time and welcome drink Lobby: Lobby area is good, big and quite. There is Bar as well on ground floor near lobby Room: Clean and respectable in Size Bathroom: Size of Bathroom was OK and Clean. But bath towel was torn (see pics) with brown stains. Another problem was with shower pressure which was very low. Internet: Hotel's internet was very weak in the room. It was almost impossible to find speed in the room. You need to go lobby area for good connectivity. Restaurant: Hotel has a good restaurant on Ground Floor. Food Quality was Good. Hotel have an Indian Chef for Indian Food / guests. The staff at the hotel were all very helpful and friendly.

"What an improvement!"
lelenmoache, 20 Juillet 2016

I have been a frequent visitor to this Hotel over the last few years. From when it was the Golden Bridge Hotel and then changed to Best Western and owned by Chinese. The Hotel has always been very average, but convenient. Friendly staff but average to poor service. I have seen a major improvement in the last year. Updated lobby and bar. The pool area has been given new life and looks so inviting. Even the restaurant area has been given a face lift. I have seen the GM a Mr Pehlivan with so much energy and focus on the guests. He is truly an asset to this Hotel. I cannot wait for my next stay.

"Good hotel for fair prize - Good for business hotel"
MennoWitteveen, 17 Juillet 2016

The hotel is situated at the great Eastern Road. Very busy (traffic), but you do not hear anything of it inside. Standard hotel with good clean rooms and beds. All facilities you expect are there. Pity my TV did not work when I was there. In all: an ok hotel and fair prized.

"Wonderful stay, will visit again!"
Mr_H_BN3, 17 Juillet 2016

The hotel were able to arrange a reasonably priced taxi from the airport and the driver had a bottle of water and a snack waiting for me, which was a nice touch after a long journey. I stayed in room 417 which, despite being on the front, was quite quiet in terms of traffic noise and so on. I never had any issues with noise and the hotel has back-up generators for any load shedding. The room was very comfortable and clean, with a decent TV and a safe which was free to use. The bathroom was pretty much what I wanted in a bathroom and there were never any issues with hot water or anything. All of the staff, from the cleaning staff to those on reception and in the bar and restaurant were permanently cheerful and professional. I'm sure I could name more, but names I recall are Mwanjo on reception, Precious in the restaurant, the waiting staff Rosena, Sandra and Lulu as well as Paul in the bar - they are helped make my stay enjoyable and are a credit to the hotel. I booked my stay via a travel agent but was able to confirm the booking by email and I was able to easily arrange the taxi this way. I dealt with Veronica and having this contact made things much easier. I didn't use the pool (I stayed in April and the water looked a bit chilly) but the area by the pool was a very nice place to sit and relax with a book and something to eat. I found the prices very reasonable and the food very good. There is a shopping centre (Levy Junction) a ten minute walk away which came in very handy. I really enjoyed my stay and very much hope to stay again!

"Excellent And Pleasant Stay"
JayMaheshShukla, 16 Juillet 2016

In last 3 months i came to Lusaka 3 times and every time I stayed in Best Western. Infact last stay was of 3 weeks. Whenever u enter in the hotel the staff always greets you with a smile, always on their feet to help the guests and very cooperative. Beautiful Exteriors, maintaining cleanniness 24/7. This is the only place where I have seen a wide varie of Breakfast (for Nonveg and Veg both). Also has a good restuarant with the Indian and chinese menu. One wont miss Indian food as Indian Chef (Rawat) makes tasty Indian and Indochinese food. If U r looking to visit lusaka best Western is the place to stay. Worth for the money...

"Super staff - torn towels"
Mikkel1975, 12 Juillet 2016

Fairly good location but based right on a busy road. The restaurant has a standard menu (steak, sandwiches, chips etc) but there's also a menu with Indian and Chinese food - I sampled both and it was very good in both instances. The breakfast is pretty standard for this type of hotel - nothing to write home about. The room was ok, but the hotel's internet was very weak in the room. There was only one towel in the bathroom when I checked in - a large and very worn bath towel (see pics) with tiny orange and brown stains. It seemed clean but very old and worn. If it was my towel I would have thrown it away a long time ago. The shower had a rail on which you could place the shower head and adjust the height to your preference. However, the piece that holds the shower head - which normally slides up or down - was glued onto the rail. Whereas the height was actually fine, the hose was only just long enough to reach resulting in the shower head sitting almost up right and spraying out water at a horizontal angle - i.e. straight in your face, neck. And if you did not obstruct the water with your body it would hit the wall and the other end of the bathtub and then trickle onto the floor. The wall and the floor was clearly marked by having been covered in water for a long time. I find it weird that a hotel of this standard does not come up with proper solutions for issues such as this. At night there was one set of lights that I could not find a switch for - three spots by the window. So I had to take out my room card of the slot that activates the electricity in the room - after which I was in total dark. This could be me overlooking an obvious light switch, however as I did put in some effort looking for it, I do believe there wasn't one. The staff at the hotel were all very helpful and friendly. And I was allowed to stay in my room after the official check out time to wait for my shuttle bus to the airport. Excellent service indeed.

"Brilliant Service!"
Savannah A, 29 Juin 2016

The rooms were quite big with decently sized bathrooms. Everything was clean and tidy. The breakfast was also decent. Best Western Plus is located in a very central part of Lusaka, only a 10 minute walk away from Levy Mall and there are taxis located close by for easy and reliable transportation. However the highlight of the trip was how friendly and welcoming all of the staff were. Everyone had smiles on their faces, greeted you whenever they saw you, and were more than willing to assist in anyway possible.

"Nice Lusaka Experience "
JeffandSharlene M, 28 Juin 2016

We are pleased with our 4 nights here. Great staff, nice breakfast, clean and comfortable rooms. We felt safe while exploring this city. Easy taxi access to get places. Enjoyed trying Shema for the first time in their restaurant. We ate here two nights and there are plenty of food choices. It is open 24/7 so we were able to relax and play games around a large table. Can't say enough about the friendly and eager to please staff. They take their jobs seriously.

"Lovely Staff"
Lesley A, 25 Juin 2016

We stayed in The Lusaka Grand for 5 nights. The rooms were quiet and very comfortable, the breakfast buffet was varied and delicious and all the staff were extremely friendly and efficient...always met with a broad smile and greeting.

"Usual Best Western with great staff"
woours, 18 Juin 2016

This was a last minute stay - arrived late and departed early. I can't fault the staff. The room was clean with the usual amenities, and the house keeping were quiet and diligent in the morning. Big thanks the reception staff who orientated me in an unfamiliar city and located a couple of sites I needed to visited - calling colleagues and translating for me. And the doorman, who called me the same trusted driver each time I needed to leave.

"Comfortable stay"
Jon P, 03 Juin 2016

Decent stay and reasonable value for money. Staff particularly helpful, friendly and attentive - thank you. Some rooms a bit noisy. Food no better than average but good enough. Room could have done with a revamp - a little tired and in need of decoration. Overall not bad but I might shop around a bit more were I to travel there again.

"Trying hard to become a pleasant value for money hotel"
Koos K, 02 Juin 2016

Good central location. Facilities average. Breakfast average. Rooms not properly checked such as finding a locked safe. Safe and clean, will visit again. Poor coffee. Friendly staff but not very efficient.

"Comfortable Stay"
Abbireddy, 23 Mai 2016

Good hotel with all required eminities. Good restaurant, good rooms, good location. the service a bit slow, but the hotel manager does give you good response if you need quick service. The bar is open late night and good place to spend some time also at the pool side. The restautan has a good menu and service is good. the staff are friendly and do give attention for all your needs to make it a comfortable stay.

"Embarrassment to the Best Western Brand"
JaronV, 21 Mai 2016

I stayed at the Best Western Plus in Lusaka for two nights on a recent business trip. I was incredibly disappointed, to say the least. I have stayed in Best Western hotels all over the world, and this one was by far the worst I have ever stayed in. First of all, the hotel website was incredibly misleading. The hotel advertises a 24 hour gym - but the hotel does not actually have a gym. They only give you a pass and a ride to a gym that is 15 minutes away. The website also has photos of a beautiful swimming pool. But the pool was totally empty and in the middle of a parking lot. Wifi did not work the entire time. The first room they gave me smelled like chemicals and raw sewage. They moved me to another room the next day, thankfully, but that smell was totally unacceptable. Room decor is incredibly dated - it looks like a cheep, gaudy Chinese hotel from the 1970s. The only redeeming qualities were a decent breakfast and a few nice staff members (especially Brian) who was apologetic for the hotel's shortcomings. If Best Western is even a little concerned with their brand, they should drop this hotel as soon as possible. Stay somewhere else in Lusaka.

"Clean, quiet, friendly, luxurious and central hotel"
TorbjornPedersen, 18 Mai 2016

The friendly staff alone would make me come back for a second stay! The breakfast buffet is plentiful, the rooms are luxurious and the location provides great access to go anywhere with ease. Thor, Once Upon A Saga

"Seven fabulous weeks at Best Western Plus Lusaka Grand Hotel"
Simone G, 17 Mai 2016

I stayed at this hotel for almost two months and was very sad to leave. The staff - from the managers right down to the cleaning ladies - are second to none. They're friendly, genuine and helpful, and go above and beyond to ensure you feel at home. The rooms are spacious and well-equipped, breakfast is delicious and the hotel has all of the amenities that a businessperson could possibly need. I'd definitely recommend this hotel and will definitely be returning when I'm next in Lusaka. Thank you to the wonderful team at Best Western Plus who made my extensive time there so comfortable and memorable.

"Good hotel, friendly staff"
ClaudiaH H, 04 Mai 2016

The Best Western is a good business hotel at comparatively affordable prices, internet worked reasonably well (for skype ok, not for streaming), staff very friendly and helpful, lighting in the rooms, esp bathroom needs to be improved (as is the case in many hotels...), breakfast is ok, but lacks fruit and i did not understand why the floor was cleaned every morning during breakfast time which made it dangerous and slippery, food (dinner) quite good (had a phantastic steak and average indian food for dinner), would come back!

"Very Good Hotel"
Yashwantpandey, 02 Mai 2016

A very good hotel in Lusaka. Very Spacious Rooms, Lot of Parking Space. Large Lobby. In house restaurant. Complementary breakfast. Very helpful staffs and front office people. Food is good in the restaurant.

"4 night business stay"
Andrew M, 30 Avril 2016

The rooms are spacious and clean and it's fairly quiet at night. Plumbing / waterproofig in bathrooms needs to be looked at. They are clean but stagnant water stench. Breakfasts selection good with option of bacon and eggs. Evening meals at restaurant fine. Staff friendly and efficient. Prices reasonable considering what else on offer. Fitness centre either not there or being renovated. Was given the option of visiting a gym 10mins away which in Lusaka terms is 30mins away. You have to get in a car to go to outside restaurants....Nothing nearby but on site restaurant adequate. Would definitely go back.

"Convenient for downtown and the airport!"
don m, 21 Avril 2016

Room was spacious and clean. Air conditioning worked well enabling us to get a good night's sleep. Room service was first class and the burger delivered was terrific. At $145 for the room, I felt it was good value. There were a few lights that didn't work. The public areas are spacious and well laid out but lack character. A hoarding outside the hotel offers rooms at $85 but when you try to book it is a different story!

"Good staff , poor facilities"
GeorgeRoulias, 20 Avril 2016

friendly staff and a helpful and supportive manager. The hotel though needs a major renovation. Rooms are very poor , can hardly justify the price per night although rate was higher than usual due to a fair.

"Comfortable but average"
Andre' V, 18 Avril 2016

For a 4-star hotel I expected better. The room were cozy and considering I was in Zambia on business the room was adequate. However I expect much better from a 4-star hotel. Breakfast buffet was average, nothing remotely Zambian and the lobby bar likewise had not choice and closes early. Wifi was playing up too. For the service and the cost of living in Zambia, the hotel was overpriced! Saw some bugs in the room but I guessed that it was normal due to its climate. The hotel restaurant is great though!

"Best western"
Nalini N, 17 Avril 2016

I stayed at this hotel for 5 days. The condition of the bathroom was horrible. The smell of the toilet was unbearable, despite complaining numerous times nothing was done to remedy the situation. No interest from management. Breakfast is very poor as well. Will never go back

"Decent and well priced"
KrissySAUK, 13 Avril 2016

FInding well priced accommodation in Lusaka isn't easy. Most of the market is expensive or basic and not much in between. The Lusaka Grand fits that category. The rooms are comfortable, the staff well trained and helpful and the location is good if you have business in town. You can't walk anywhere of interest and the traffic around it can be horrendous - but that's Lusaka nowadays.

"Comfortable stay in Lusaka"
Gizz2016, 12 Avril 2016

The first room that I was given smelled of smoke so the staff gladly assisted with changing my room and were very accommodating when I told them a second time that I didn't want the new assigned room as it was close the elevator. Once I finally had my perfect room I was able to settle in. The breakfast was good, but the same selections was available every day which gets boring after 9 nights. There was no gym on site, but the Hotel has an agreement with a gym close by (I decided not to use this gym though). The rooms were clean and tidy, but a little too dark for my liking with no proper lights in the room (only bedside lamps and similar in the room). The bathroom had the best lighting, but the mirror was too far which made applying make-up quite challenging. Hotel's location was convenient with malls in the same road. Was an average experience all around.

"Comfortable hotel with great staff"
Ted G, 06 Avril 2016

Stayed here for a night in April 2016. Airport shuttle was easy. There doesn't seem to be much within walking distance but some nice malls are a short drive away. Staff are so friendly and helpful. Room was clean and very comfortable with a nice bathroom.

"Nice and Clean hotel at a convenient location"
Rajesh B, 29 Mars 2016

BWP Grand is a nice hotel at a convenient location. The rooms, toilet and the other areas were spotless. The only negative was the missing Gym (was getting renovated), but the staff offered us to take to another Gym at 10 min driving distance. The breakfast was fine but could do with some more fresh fruit selections.

"Convenient and comfortable location"
Banu_Altunbas, 25 Mars 2016

I stayed 2 nights at this hotel, which was comfortable, at a convenient location. One of the best breakfast buffets that I experienced in Africa, the meals were also good, although I definitely recommend the Indian cuisine as the kitchen is not strong on Italian food. The staff were helpful, actually the Operations manager went out of his way to help me out with some internet and computer issues, although it didn't work. For a big hotel which probably has more business clients than a tourist like me, their internet connection is appallingly slow. Also for budget travelers, it will be pricy. But if you need the comfort and convenience for a day or two, this can be your choice

"Helpfull Manager"
traveller10272016, 09 Mars 2016

Just want to say thank you to Mr D Phelivan. I stayed at this hotel and experienced slight banking troubles when it came to settling my bill. He quickly took charge and sorted it out for me in a swift and professional manner. Very helpful and made my stay worth while. Great service

"Chinese style but good enough for business"
HolgerMM, 02 Mars 2016

Stayed there for a few nights on business. Very friendly staff and clean rooms. good value for money for a hotel in Africa. Built by the Chinese and used to be run by them as well before it as taken over by Best Western Group. The decor is typical Chinese with plenty of cheap bling and Golden cushions and dark wood furniture. Wifi worked, but only on the ground level. Breakfast was good especially the omelette was delicious and prepared with a smile. The biggest bonus of the place is the location. Not too far from the airport but close enough to all the main businesses and to the CBD. However not in the CBD which is a total nightmare for traffic in the morning and afternoons. Decent bars and restaurants are in close but not walking distance.

"Nice hotel but they lied."
Horse-lover000, 01 Mars 2016

Clean with a very nice breakfast. But they lied to me/us. First of all they tried to rescind on the deal made with my friends on a separate booking. My friends, who I were travelling with, arranged a discount for their room as they work for a trust in Zambia. After paying they were called back and asked to pay the extra as management changed his mind. I had booked the first two nights through Wotif but I knew I had to return the following week after going up North with my friends. The ladies at reception told me it was cheaper to book direct with them than going through an agent so I made the reservation with them. I paid AUD 135.00 a night through wotif. I just got my bank statement and I find they charged me AUD243.00 for my room the second stay. DO NOT book them direct. Always do it through Wotif or Hotels.com etc. Also it is definitely not a 243.00 a night hotel.

my experience in this hotel had been sweeter than honey that is why i came to visit twice..starting from the good speaking guest relation lady Mapalo Mulenga she is good at her job and love to see her again , less i forget the bar boys i love them especially paul phiri, innocent and chabwe basically i come to drink after meeting because of their chat and jokes.. good hospitality...less i forget i watched the hotel maintainance manager how he moves up and down to make sure every one is satisfied that is Bradley. in short the hotel got the right worker for the job....so am satisfied.

"Not the experience one would expect"

Rooms were smelling, toilet flush was not working, lighting was dim, toilets were not planned well, breakfast was horrible. Internet worked well. Staff was trying to be helpful but couldn't cover the shoddy

"Love this Hotel"
Thambo1, 18 Janvier 2016

I often stay at this hotel. Staff ever so friendly and help full. Very affordable. Internet brilliant. Breakfast menu in need of attention. Need more variety please, not the same every day. I love what you did with the reception introducing a refreshment/welcome drink table. Very nice indeed.

"Hotels needs an upgrade"
NadiraA21, 13 Janvier 2016

This hotel is in serious need of a refurbishment. The decor is old and outdated, even though the rooms are clean. Staff is very helpful and friendly. The breakfast is not the best for people who are vegetarian as there is hardly an option except for fruit or cereal. An average hotel that is closer to a 3 star grading rather than 4.

"No hot water, pool was empty, staff don't have change when you pay, management lurk around anonymously."
st3veB, 09 Janvier 2016

I booked this hotel because of the photo of the lovely looking pool. Unfortunately the pool was half a foot deep when I arrived, as it was just being filled after repairs. The pool is beautiful, but do bear in mind it surrounded by car park and road, not really in a gorgeous garden setting like you'd imagine from the photo's. The hotel is renovated and modern in a Chinese nouveau rich way, no complaints there. My room had no hot water at night so I skipped a shower until the next morning, expecting there to be hot water, alas, no. The breakfast spread is a rather dull affair, a few hot cooked food items and some sweltering cheese/ham on a tray with some bread products. Local staff are as warm and friendly as most Zambians, but they seem to be stymied by the Chinese owners (who seem to lurk around looking suspicious at everyone) and who apparently don't trust them enough to leave basic change in local currency at the bar/restaurant/reception so they can provide change to guests who want to pay cash for their food and beverages. Even on check out, after trying to pay for extras that were signed for, because of the above issue, the staff couldn't give proper change. This hotel is a sad example of bad management. A modern day Chino-Africa Fawlty Towers. Worth watching the ratings to see if it will improve, the potential is there. And that pool, man, when it's filled up, that's a drawcard right there. Check other latest reviews before bookign, it's a bit iffy right now and I'd rather have chosen somewhere else based on my experience.

"Grand western plus"
Abraham Jacobus H, 17 Décembre 2015

Very nice stay, staff is very helpfull and friendly. I would recomend the hotel to any person seeking accommodation in Lusaka. Rooms are comfortable and the resturant is the place to hang out in the mornings with fresh coffie. It is an unrushed and relaxed experience, Ideal for business or pleasure

"Good for business meetings"
Elizabeth B, 06 Décembre 2015

Nice and clean room though a bit tiny.... the location is good for those who want to be close to town and the levy park shopping mall. The water pressure in the shower is very impressing. The only disappointment was the food as I ordered fish and chips to my surprise I was served a fish with bones and it was too dry to my liking... And you might see some kind of a pool in the pictures, thats just a pond filled with dirty water and its in the middle of the car park. Apart from the food and pool or the the rooms being tiny I couldn't sleep as to the noise of the gen set which was on the whole night due to power cut.

"Overpriced and mediocre"
peterR5742MC, 27 Novembre 2015

Staff very friendly and management obviously making an effort to get the place up to standard. Looks like it was constructed by the Chinese (like almost everything else in Africa these days, sadly) - shoddy workmanship is evident behind the "flash". Not one of the printers in the business centre had ink, and no new cartridge could be found. Although I booked a no-smoking room, I was taken to the second floor, which stank of smoke. got moved to room 326 with virtually no view (looked into a wall). Shower in the bath worked OK but the glass "wall" makes it impossible to turn taps on and off unless you are standing under the shower - you either get a blast of cold or hot water initially. Soap dispensers didn't work. Waited at the airport for over an hour for the shuttle bus! Wifi was pathetic, as was the TV.

"Mediocre at best"
Wynand D, 22 Novembre 2015

Booked on line and was charged, quite an expensive rate in US$. If I booked inwithout prior reservation, I would have paid a lot less, as the receptionist confirmed. Would have prefered to pay in Zambian Kwacha, as a SADEC citizen.

"Great place for expats to stay in Lusaka"
Rochester321, 20 Novembre 2015

The new GM was in his first week when we arrived and he exceeded all expectations, as did the lovely staff members. We were honeymooning there and got a chance to experience the pimped-out penthouse. We've been in over 45 countries around the world and nothing compares to this room. The location is great, the air conditioning consistent, the food on site is good, and we loved the unique pool layout. We will be back!

"Steadily improving"
Kam S, 19 Novembre 2015

This is a good value hotel in a convenient location. Staff very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the hotel is still suffering from build quality inherited from previous owners and this may impact the experience.

"Great"
Walter19781, 19 Novembre 2015

It was my second time being at the Hotel. All was well for me. the manager was just good. and of course my Angela. She was so great. the rooms are very well. neatly done. the food, i enjoyed the morning breakfast. of course afternoon and evening i was normally out. The first time i was with my wife and she liked the place. The second time i was with my boss, he too liked the place and even commented that its well ahead of the 2 other hotels he has been to in Lusaka before. I strongly recommend anyone to this hotel. its also startegically located.

"Disappointing..."
GabriellaLM, 12 Novembre 2015

We checked in to the Best Western having stayed at a (very good) backpackers for a few days - we wanted a treat for one night. We were sadly disappointed. The room was nice enough, but the bathroom stank of drains, and the toilet didn't flush. Actually, the public toilets in the foyer also didn't flush, and were blocked and flooding with waste matter. I approached 2 members of staff about this, who shrugged and walked off. Nothing was done about it. The food in the restaurant was really bad. My "Caprese baguette" (mozarella, tomato, and pesto - topped with crispy bacon) came out as a floppy, butter filled, bit of bread with a few bites of processed cheddar, and dripping with oily bacon. Equally, the staff had essentially hidden the breakfast menu so we had to ask what was available - they replied only vegetable omelette (we subsequently found out there was a full on-demand menu). The pool that looks so lovely in the pictures turned out to be, essentially, a pond. Outside the front of the hotel, half filled with dirty, murky water. And all this, for a really quite high-end price.

"Great customer relations"
Lisa S, 12 Novembre 2015

I was there for quite a while and i loved how friendly the staff are, always smiling and ready to assist when called upon. I loved my room, it was spacious, really neat and well equipped plus the food is great, i always enjoyed my breakfast. I will definitely come back!

"Excellent Customer Service"
Tabo K, 12 Novembre 2015

Very friendly staff and quick response to customer service. Excellent room facilities and the food is absolutely amazing :)! The pool area is a great place to relax and they have a gym where you can work out.

"Fantastic assistance!"
Peter E, 10 Novembre 2015

As Lusaka was planned for a two day stop for my safari, I have been recommended by fellow friends of mine in Lusaka to stay here. From the moment I entered the lobby area I could just feel a great 'coming home' vibe from the reception Staff. A lady called Veronica gave us an upgrade to a junior suite which was just fabulous! As we had some issues with the Landrover and refill of fire distinguisher we were assisted by the Hotel's Security officer. Overall, great breakfast with a fantastic choice (included in room rate), friendly Zambian waiters ( Little more training will help) I can only conclude thumbs up and keep it personal!

"Inconsistent"
Cindy-Milford, 09 Novembre 2015

BW Lusaka Grand Hotel was formerly the Golden Bridge Hotel, this is not a new hotel just a remodeled and re-marketed one. It is located at the bridge between old Lusaka and new on Great East Road in a relatively safe area about 2 miles from the nearest mall (Manga Hill mall). Located on a very noisy and busy street, the noise in rooms on the frontside of the building can make sleep difficult during rush hours of 5-8am and 4-6pm (create some white noise with the AC in your room). This is currently a 3 star hotel (my husband thinks 2.5) from US standards. Here is my overall review and my experience with this hotel, I apologize it is rather long and detailed. My experience: I booked an executive room, paying a fair amount more than a standard room, as we would be here for a week and I wanted a little more space. Upon check-in we were assigned Room 409 which immediately I knew could not be an executive room, (it was small and cramped with broken lights, had a non functioning phone, clock and hair dryer that the bell hop could not get to work, and worst of all a horrid smell in the room). I went down to the front desk to report the mistake, but was told by Prudence, the young woman in charge, that ALL rooms on the 4th floor were executive rooms and that was what I had paid for. However, 2 of our associates were also on the same floor and had booked a standard room, so she, I will assume, was misinformed. However, she SHOULD have known not all rooms on the 4th floor were executive rooms and she should have immediately come up to the room to assess the situation, I never got an apology for her error during my stay. As I was not accepting of her response, I allowed my husband to take up the matter. He went downstairs and asked for her superior, Martin, who then came up to our room and when he walked in, he immediately knew we were not in an executive room (in fact this room was not only smaller than a standard room, the “closet” was about 6 inches deep and you could not fit even a hangar in the closet and there was NO additional storage for clothing anywhere in this room). So after a little discussion we were moved to room 427, which was just like the photo on the website, and about what we expected. However this room had an issue with the key card, so we were given a brass key and told it would be fixed the following day (sadly after a week it still wasn't fixed and we were still using the brass key, but they had been trying to fix it). So now to the review: Executive Room: Nice and spacious. You have room to move around in the room. There is a writing desk to work on. There is a step-up platform area where there are 2 chairs and a table looking out a large window. The room has a small refrigerator stored in a cabinet and a good size safe also hidden in a cabinet. There is a flat screen TV (with a couple of English speaking channels) on top of the cabinet. The bed was large and comfortable (hard bed, but I like it that way). Linens nice and comfortable. Overall décor very nice. Dark wood furniture with white duvet and gold coverlet. There was a tea and coffee station that was on a bar-like shelf of the room and housekeeping kept it very well stocked. Bathroom is a decent size. Bath towels were large and soft and they have wash cloths. Tub was a large soaking tub and it was always clean as a pin. Toiletries are in dispensers that were at times difficult to access (not ergonomically made). Often there was no water pressure, however, in defense of the hotel, there have been issues with water supply in Lusaka, as well as power outages that last for up to 6 hours at a stretch, this is not the fault of the hotel, and they do in fact have a generator for power outages, but water pressure is another story. It was nearly impossible to get cold water, mostly when we had sufficient pressure to shower, it was so hot you felt as though you were being burned. Free bottled drinking water is provided in your room daily and was also available anytime at the front desk. There is also a blow dryer in the room over the writing desk next to a large mirror. This hotel is advertised as having WiFi, however 90% of the time the only place you could get WiFi was in the lobby (and keep in mind we were here for an entire week, and only Saturday did we get Wifi in our room) and you could not open or send any large files on the WiFi, so this does pose an issue for the many business travelers that absolutely need WiFi. The hotel does have complimentary computers in the lobby for customers' use, however again opening and sending large files are an issue. Gym: Wow… please just take the fact you “have a gym” off the website. The gym consisted of a treadmill that was old and narrow and isn't designed to go over 4 mph, an elliptical with a broken foot pedal, a bicycle also broken foot pedal and a “weight machine” also broken and missing parts old and rusty… really until the “remodel” is done, just let your customers know that they can get a ride to the nearby gym, which had plenty of good equipment and even has a room of rowing machines and bicycles, a cross fit style workout area and lots of machines and free weights including kettle bells. Don't bother with advertising a “gym” in the hotel, it doesn't really exist. Restaurant: This was where inconsistency was the worst. Breakfast is included in your room rate. There is a buffet in the AM set up but you can ask to have eggs made although it may take quite a while and they may get it wrong (and as it turned out certain days they can even make pancakes). Service was horrid in the AM in the restaurant, and yes I mean horrid, most of the time. Employees would be everywhere but you had to get their attention to get coffee or anything else most days I am not sure what they were “doing” but they were not taking care of the hotel guests most of the time. Please, please, educate your staff on customer service here. Midday and evening meals here were a little better, however, again, staff needs to be re-trained in customer service as there were chronic inconsistencies. There is a difference between slow service and poor service (or no service). This is after all a service industry and we either had great service (principally at night) or it was basically non-existent service. The chefs were fine, the food was consistently reliable and tasty and sometimes even very tasty. But most of the waiters and waitresses need to be better trained (there were a couple of exceptions). Flies are definitely an issue in the restaurant, also something that needs to be improved upon. Some days the AC was not on in the restaurant and it was HOT, other days the staff would turn it on and it was at least comfortable. Food was plentiful and extremely reasonably priced. We were told there were 2 restaurants on premise, but that was not the case, however you can ask for a Chinese menu or an Indian menu for some variety. This however, was not posted anywhere that this was even an option, and that information was never volunteered to us by staff, it wasn't until our 3rd day another American staying here informed us of this fact. Again staff needs to inform the clients about their options. Additionally at times the chef or waitress didn't understand due to speaking vernacular, and since this is now being marketed as an “American chain hotel” the staff should be able to speak and understand English in the restaurant, as food requests should be clearly communicated and understood just in case a person has food allergies. Bar: Nice small bar area off the lobby and has a nice selection of South African wines very reasonably priced. The bartender staff was attentive and really sweet. Pool: The pool area is somewhat unsafe, floor boards are broken all over the pool area or missing completely. The pool is entirely shaded and there is nowhere to sunbathe here. The pool itself did not look clean although a man was cleaning it regularly, frankly it looked as though there was soap in it and water was dirty looking. Additionally the location of the pool is very poor being at the main entrance. You must enter the pool from the area directly opposite the main hotel entrance lobby, this can be quite uncomfortable with Muslim men running around and business clients being in the lobby area at all hours. On a final note, our last full day here I was ill, and music started playing loudly in the corridors before 7am, so loudly there was no way to “drown it out”. Now playing music had been normal during daytime hours in the hallways, normally a soft jazz Kenny G style of music, but on this morning a very loud, very unpleasant music began exceptionally early in the hallways on a Saturday morning no less when some people might want to sleep in a little, this is NOT acceptable. If staff needs to hear music to clean starting that early then they need to wait until a reasonable hour to play music loudly while cleaning rooms. This hotel has changed management over the past 6 months, it is still owned by a Chinese company although it is being marketed as a US chain hotel (supposedly an upscale version of the Best Western chain). However, there are simply TOO many inconsistencies in the hotel staffing. I want to note that housekeeping was exceptional! They are doing a marvelous job and I must mention Chiluba head of housekeeping keeps in contact with her guests to be sure they have all they need, she offers excellent customer service. Martin likewise at the front desk, he was always smiles and he attempts to do what he can so guests are as comfortable as he can make them. Likewise Brian, the daytime bellhop, he was extremely helpful and accommodating he helped a number of our group make some arrangements during our stay. Note to management IF you can get more employees like these 3, you CAN and WILL achieve a 4 star rating, but as it stands now, the general staff need more training and education in “what is good customer service”. What helps to distinguish a 4 star hotel from a 2.5-3 star hotel IS customer service and doing it with a smile. Oh, and please do something about your WiFi internet issues, this will not work for your business clients, it made things very difficult during our stay. Perhaps over the next 6 months you can improve in these areas. If not, I will be at the Radisson down the street next visit or the Intercontinental. I hope the new hotel management really want to improve this hotel, it does have great potential, if it can be tapped.

"Decent Deal"
Krishnan N, 09 Novembre 2015

I was on a business trip to attend a conference at Lusaka and got a decent deal at this place. Rooms were spacious, well equipped and maintained. Breakfast at the restaurant was also quite lavish to start the day......although they can improve on their lunch & dinner offerings. Service is good with friendly staff and the travel desk was also helpful in arranging sightseeing tours. Location is good as well.

"Best price quality relation in Lusaka"
Frederic D, 08 Novembre 2015

Comfortable, well situated hotel in central Lusaka. Front rooms can be noisy. Very friendly staff. Spacious well equipped rooms. Nice restaurant / breakfast room. Very good for business traveller. Internet weak, PC / printers in lobby not working. During my stay at day of departure no water which I hope is a one time exception.

"Average rooms but poor service"
egal562, 03 Novembre 2015

I stayed at the Hotel for approx. 2 weeks. The rooms were clean and approriately equipped. Nevertheless as I have been told the hotel had just recently undergone major changes. Once a purely Chinese visited and owned hotel it now became member of the Best Western Group. You can still see and feel the Chinese impact, especially at 7am in the morning when they start playing music throughout the whole day. A speaker was right infront of my room. Upon my request to turn down the volume or switch it off I was told this is not possible due to company policy. The A/C was broken twice, same as the toilett flush. At least the toiliett has allways been repaired immediately upon request. The service in general was very poor. Laundry was a complete mess. One time it took 3 days and several requests. I ended up calling the responsible guy myself to get it sorted. My colleagues laundry was mixed up the other time. Breakfast service was a disappointment, nothing was arranged and for everything one had to get up to the staff and ask for it (then I can also refill my coffee myself and get me toast and eggs. No need to bother someone with it). My room was located in the 5th floor and I had no Internet at all. You always had to go down to the lobby because the connection was so bad, that even Whatsapp messages were lacking! All in all there is a lot of room to improve, since the hotel is located in quite a central location with competative pricing.

"Not a bad place to be..."
Marian G, 27 Octobre 2015

I've stayed for over one month there. Rooms are OK, king size bed, decent bathroom. Problems: Internet is slow; sometimes no connection at all. Be aware about power cuts. Restaurant is the main issue : you need patience, a lot of...

"Average Hotel"
Jason M, 26 Octobre 2015

Visited Lusaka and my expereince at this Hotel was average. I must however give credit to one of the staff members. I have had some complaints, but it was quickly resolved by the Operations Manager Mr Pehlivan. Friendly, professional and made my stay pleasant dispite the initial problems I experienced.

"Adventure in Zambia"
JoAnn H, 23 Octobre 2015

After a VERY long flight it was great to get to the hotel and have the pleasant staff great me with a cold juice and towel. The rooms and bathrooms looked like they had been upgraded recently and the pool area is tropical and inviting. It is handy that the local mall is very near by and a quick trip by Taxi. The continental breakfast was one off the best I have had in a long time and hands down the best in all my stays in Zambia and Malawi. Also free wifi! The manager Veronica made us feel like one of the family If I go back to Lusaka, I will be booking again with Best Western Grand Hotel.

"My Experience"
Kelvin M, 17 Octobre 2015

Love its oriental feel and the pool was awesome especially this hot season, love their breakfast service, but most important their location is proximate to a lot of places around that i needed to be in.

"Great potential with a Chinese heritage"
C T, 17 Octobre 2015

The Best Western Plus is a hotel with great potential. Very well located almost in the city centre, yet close to Levy Junction and Manda Hill malls and with a good connection to the East and North. Yet my room (at the back) was one of the quietists I've stayed in in Lusaka, much quieter than, say, the Proteas at Arcades. Even the rooms closest to the nearby railway line do not suffer from this potential noise source. This former Golden Bridge hotel still breathes China from the huge vases and mural in the lobby to the smallest details such as the wall signs and AC remote control in both English and Chinese, the lush red and gold carpets in the hallways and the (tasty) Chinese treats at the breakfast buffet. I would prefer to see African interior decoration however, but I can understand this will take time. Management is very open for suggestions and the staff has been very very friendly and helpful throughout my stay (3 days). The outdoor pool in front of the hotel lobby is beautiful and a great place to sit in the shade during the day. The restaurant is open 24/7 and serves Western, African oriented, and Chinese cuisine thanks to three chefs. There were some flaws however, such as the low water pressure during peak hours, failing WiFi when I arrived, and two short power cuts. Load shedding is a serious problem at this moment in Zambia, but I feel a hotel in this league should be able to cope with that seamlessly. The hotel is trying to attract new customers with very low prices at the moment and they succeeded as far as I am concerned: I will surely stay here again when I'm in Lusaka.

"Nothing is as advertised"
David A. M, 16 Octobre 2015

The rooms were clean and the water was hot. The power was on most of the time. However, the front desk staff were less than helpful in addressing matters. They could not add my loyalty card, they openly argued with our traveling companions when they put them in a low grade room when they had paid for a suite. The front desk said the room they were in was a suite even thought it lacked all the amenities and space of a suite. It took the manager to fix the issue and he had to tell his staff what a suite was and was not at a hotel. The restaurant rarely had half of what was listed on the menu. Service was terribly slow. I had to send one meal back 3 times before it was correct. It brags it has 3 chef: american, chinese and indian and the food was available at all hours. They never had all 3 there at the same time. I recommend you stay at the Hotel Intercontinental or the Radison. Only stay here if you expect slow and incompetent service. Prepare to be dissapointed

"lovely hospitality"
Peter B, 15 Octobre 2015

my room with nice and clean, the hotel is affordable and does not over exaggerate is prices of services.the pool is beautiful and looks marvelous at night with the lights. the food is delicious all the time, shows that they have well trained staff. the staff is very friendly and are always willing to help.

"Definitely returning!"

Brilliant service, such friendly and helpful staff. My family and i had great fun; had a beautiful breakfast, the food was fresh and nicely prepared, even enjoyed drinks by the pool :) Serene environment, nice scenery - this family is definitely returning for more!

"Good base for business trip"
Makzim, 08 Octobre 2015

I have given this a 4 star just because I know that hotels in Lusaka are generally less than they promise - if this hotel was in another city it would get a 3 star from me. The location is excellent, although the hotel can only be accessed from the one side of the East rd, meaning if you are coming from an easterly direction you have to do a huge circuit through traffic in the CBD to get onto the East rd from the Westerly direction. The welcome was good and staff friendly. The room was comfortable and clean. The hot water pressure was poor (a trickle), meaning that my shower was not all that it promised to be. I was not worth complaining about as I was only there for 1 night. The breakfast was a little disappointing and had many confusing dishes (chinese & Indian) on the buffet - no staff members offered to explain what was available for breakfast or offered to take any orders for eggs and bacon. Another diner at breakfast saw me looking confused at the breakfast buffet and informed me that you need to ask for eggs/bacon if you want it as it would not be offered to me. It was too late by then as I was halfway through my breakfast. I did order a dinner with room service and the food was very good and of a generous portion. I will return as the price is reasonable, the hotel is comfortable and location convenient. The Wifi (my room was 307) was quite good and I managed to work efficiently using it.

"Excellent and perfect time ever"
Nyambe M, 08 Octobre 2015

being a football player with experience for both local and international, I have moved or should I say stayed in different hotels, but my experience with this hotel is extra ordinary. The perfect hotel with quality standards, their services are to the best perfection and talking of the food believe you me its delicious. I could not believe myself, knowing the past about this hotel and it being a chense hotel, the standards have changed to that of an international hotel and yes they still have a Chense tounch and talk of the local culture its never left out " Africa Zambia at large" the staff are friendly yes am Zambian and a star but hey I had the chance to meet guest from different countries right here at this hotel who expressed their views to me. My experience here I should say was a call again and for sure am going to call back again, I mean coming back to stay at this hotel, but this time with my wife and children.

"friendly and helpful staff"

"Terrible Experience: Worst Stay I ever had at a Hotel"
John K, 06 Octobre 2015

Before I start, I should make clear that my expectations of this hotel were much amped by the great reviews I read here. Sadly, my expectations for a decent stay during my business visit were thoroughly quashed. This is my first ever negative review on Tripadvisor but, sadly, it's true. And, for the record, my expectations aren't that high, I am Malawian, I know what to expect of such a hotel in these parts. The shower head kept sliding down (tacky, low quality fittings). Constantly adjusting it with soap on my face made me wet all the towels and the bathroom floor on the first day. It was very frustrating having to constantly push the shower holder up its rail when showering, and it would tilt up suddenly sending water beyond the tub. There was no stopper for the bath-tub either, so there was no alternative. Glad my wife wasn't with me, it would have been a huge disappointment to see a bathtub and not be able to use it (well, maybe she'd have plugged the drain with a plastic bag – I wasn't feeling that committed to a bath). Stopper didn't find its way any time during my stay even after telling staff checking up on me, asking me if everything was ok the first two days. I told one guy on the second evening he checked up on me that he still hadn't brought the stopper he said he would bring, to which he answered emphatically “I'm coming” and gave a bemused shrug and chuckle (as if I was being impatient, he had only taken one day so far after all). I knew he wasn't going to bring it at this stage, somehow it dawned on me at this point that none of them were going to improve anything I complained about. They were going to simply listen, act concerned and promise to get back to me. I had raised this and other issues to different staff for 5 times within the first day of being there. After his answer, I stopped raising any complaints. I was it, I had already paid. Sucker! Man up. Their focus was on customers coming in who hadn't yet paid. It was a sad and frustrating dawn of reality but accepting it helped me focus on my work and get less annoyed with everything at the hotel. After all, it wasn't a holiday trip. Oh, and the towels were too coarse. Free wifi offered throughout stay but it only worked the first 10 minutes of my stay in my room - and for some hours on penultimate night there. I discovered it always worked well in the restaurant and reception area. So, I guess the 3rd floor is a problem (tried standing in the corridor of the 2nd floor, didn't seem to get more signal there either) – put simply, internet didn't work at all in my room and I had to do some deal of work online which meant having to make my way to the reception area each time I needed internet. Maybe the hotel should tell its guests: ‘free wifi …on the first floor'. I explained this several times to various staff (at reception and elsewhere). Once, a lady at reception told me ‘go pack your bags, I'll move you to first floor', after I complained about the internet, the shower and the stopper, and after telling her I had reported these several times to other staff and I had been told they'd be fixed (the stopper ‘was coming', plumbers were supposed to come fix my shower). She then told me a minute later ‘rather, let me get back to you after I've seen what I can do. If not today, we will move you tomorrow'. I wasn't surprised, I hadn't flinched a bit; I was getting accustomed to the drill. 4 or 5 hours later, the guy who was supposed to fetch me a stopper would chuckle and shrug at my reminding him, and I would conclude the lady at reception wasn't going to get back to me on my room change either, on this, the next day or any other day. And they both proved me right. In between the two encounters, another receptionist took my complaints, ‘wrote a report' and filed it for it to be looked into the next day. I didn't expecting that to result in anything either, and it didn't. The dimmer switch on the side of the bed didn't work for my bedside lamp. It's not a must for a hotel to offer a dimmer switch but I guess like most things, once you've fitted something, it becomes part of the deal and when it doesn't work, it means the hotel failed to deliver on something it intended to. There was no option for more lighting in the centre of the room which made working in the night a big task and a big strain on my eyes. The only light was the bedside lamps and desk lamp (bedside lamp on the desk). This is inadequate lighting for business travellers that might need to do some work in the night (a lot of work in my case – and yes, I had planned and scheduled my work properly – sometimes there's just not enough hours in your days). I had to ask staff to allow me to remove the lamp shade to tease out a bit more light to work under. Found a cockroach in the bathroom. I thought it was a once-off thing, then saw another one in the restaurant at the ordering bar. There were always a few flies around at the breakfast buffet, particularly near the yoghurt (which wasn't covered). I left some unfinished beverages twice or thrice coz a fly had landed on the brim of the cup/ glass. I woke up several times to the sound of a mosquito the second night. Don't get me wrong, I get it, we are in the tropics, the home of all kinds of insects in their gazillions but hotels (and homes)have generally found effective ways of controlling where such insects shouldn't be such that this is my first time to see this in what is supposed to be a middle range hotel in the sub-Sahara. Beds sunken in the middle – probably tired mattresses: slept ok though, but then I'm a good sleeper. Although I did wake up 3 times, twice to ‘sex-like lady sounds', from some nearby room; once to the sound of drunk in the corridor. There were several conferences and seminars going on. I don't know if I should blame the hotel for this bad night. Maybe the walls could do with better sound-proofing. Then again, I don't know how loud the original sounds were, so maybe it was just a bad night at a hotel. One of those. The second night I kept waking to the noise of the aircon changing pace though, and couldn't sleep without it because it was too hot. This night I blame on the hotel for installing yet another cheap item. Aircons have never woken me up in other hotels in the sub-Sahara. Pool at the front entrance, no changing room. Need I say more. Food that was in warming dishes at the buffet was cold on one of the days (and sausages hard on this day). On the last night, I was leaving my room to meet a business contact, my room wouldn't lock. I tried and tried, it wouldn't work. I called reception for someone to help me. It took too long for someone to come that I just packed my valuables in a bag and handed it to reception for safekeeping while I was out as I was delaying in meeting my contact otherwise. When I came back, I was told the door lock was broken. I was told I was to be moved for safety reasons. Ironic, to finally get my room change on the last night. I was not having it. I refused to change rooms. I was checking out at dawn anyway and couldn't be bothered. If I were to speculate, I would blame this brocken door lock on another cheap fitting, a cheap door lock (the card never worked to unlock the door, i had to use the key all the time). Positives: - 24 hour restaurant, meant I didn't have to plan my work around their meals. This was very needed flexibility for my crunch –time work mode during my stay. - Wifi (in the reception) is quite fast. - I recommend Chef's salad for those brave souls planning to stay at this hotel. It is quite a good one. - Most staff are polite and friendly My advice to future guests: stay out of room 330, or check it thoroughly if they say they've fixed it. My advice to the hotel: Put proper quality fittings that won't fail on your guests. Short-cuts are recipe for blow-ups. Unkown brands (‘Wei Dun' safes, ‘Aux' air-conditioners, ‘Konka' tv screens, ‘Yigao' blow dryers) are likely to disappoint at some point given repetitive use by different customers. Take better care of your customers by investing in good quality. And improve your handling of complaints by guests. It's frustrating to keep reporting the same issues over and over and to even be reminding staff you talked to before about what your issue was. And only offer and promise what you can deliver. I'll be back in Lusaka several times in the near future for more work. Unfortunately, I probably won't be returning to this hotel (I never say never – it might be the best out of the rest, it's currently number 1 on Tripadvisor for Lusaka hotel accommodation after all). This was not worth the money, even though I was on a 'special deal'!
