    « Very good meal »

We have eaten lunch at this hotel in the bar area twice recently. The food was excellent on both occasions. Good size portions and very tasty. We chose fish and chips and the pork duo. It is a little more expensive than some places, but well worth it.

    « Loveley afternoon tea »

A friend and I came to the Hatfield for an afternoon tea and to watch the royal wedding. We had a lovely time. The sandwiches, cakes, scones and pastries were delicious and the tea was nonstop. I wouldn't say that this was fine dining but all the staff were very kind and we really enjoyed ourselves.

    « Small Room, Dated. »

No problem with Parking but finding the hotel was another matter. It is poorly sign posted and I ended up going around several times. The bar and restaurant were okay with an upgraded seating area outside adjoins the bar. This however exaggerated the contrast when juxtaposed against the room. Food quality was good and the staff whilst polite and enthusiastic were sometimes stretched. They ran a few themed nights in the bar which was fine if you wanted to party the night away. However if you had an early start disturbances from outside were not welcome. Sleep quality was not great! My room was the size of a coffin and although the en suite had a good shower, a poorly sized and loosely fitted toilet seat did not impress! But clean and tidy and even being a little dated can be a welcome change to some of the more modern lodgings. That said some decorating wouldn't go amiss. Painted over anaglypta wallpaper lent a 1970's pub feel to the room. It does the job but I feel it is a little pricey for what you get.

« Royal Wedding Afternoon Tea »

Enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea here with my friend while watching the Royal Wedding! Lovely decorated room, excellent food and service. Shelley and her team did an absolutely amazing job! Will definitely come back again.

« Afternoon tea for royal wedding »

Now at the Hatfield for the royal wedding with my friend. Absolutely fantastic. Shelly has done a brilliant job decorating the room and provided a excellent array of food. She's an assent to the hotel.

« Nice restaurant, awful room »

Totally disappointed to be paying £89 for an outdated room, not much larger than my tiny single bed. Lovely view from my bedroom of a car park and a noisy road. Shower not great either, plenty of water but the temperature cycled continuously.

« AVOID AT ALL COSTS..makes kfc look classy!Diabolical customer service and bar stsff not trained how to make drinks. »

Requested a mocktail and to!d noone available to take order (even though a cocktail bar!) Stsff member who was trained eventually took order..then arrived with wrong ingredients in what can only be described as a car crash of a cocktail and without key ingredients!.when asked to speak to manager a person dressed for Benidorm arrived who only offered a replacement drink and no reund so nad to stay for a drink to avoid being out of pocket.when sent email complaint they advised 19 mins was acceptable tp wait for a wrong cocktail ! And accused me of lying about the refund offered..they didn't even believe the cocktail was wrong or the wait without checking their cctv.NO GOWILL gesture offered and when i said not happy with their attitude toward customer care they emailed me saying they wouldn't correspond with me anymore to try to resolve this matter.

« Great night, great food, exceptional service. »

I have visited the Hatfield on a few occassions mostly for food which has been delicious. Every time the service has been great. Last night I attended the "80s night with Rob Chandler"... what a night. The atmosphere was fantastic with around 400 people. It was so busy and yet I never queued for longer than 3/4 mins for a drink at the bar. The bar staff were exceptional under the pressure of such a busy room and deserve a mention for all their hard work. Our group agreed it was one of the best evenings out we'd had in years.

« Lovely staff, very welcoming »

The Hotel Hatfield sits right on the seafront, offering fantastic views. It's a very welcoming place and good value for money. The decor is a bit dated in places, but scrupulously clean and very comfortable. Would definitely stay again.

    5
    « Great stay »

The staff at this hotel are great - so friendly and attentive without being overpowering. I was lucky enough to have a sea view room which was immaculately clean and offered a comfortable bed. Room service was swift and delicious and breakfast the next day was very enjoyable. My only critics was I was then on business and not staying a couple of days for leisure.

    « Basic & loud at weekend. »

I would say this hotel is okay for couples that don't mind having a late night. I wouldn't recommend for families. Music was on till 11.30pm, drunk people shouting, arguing outside until 1.30am. Room was basic, and there was dust in most places. One side bed light didn't work. Also as a safety issue the hotel window opens wide, meaning kids could fall out. Other hotels I have stayed at have a safety latch. Wouldn't stay here again.

« Beautiful Seaside Birthday Weekend »

It was a great weekend away of celebrations in Lowestoft! The hotel is everything you could want for a seaside trip away with a great food and drinks menu which had one of the best G&T's i've had in a while. The room is a good size and the bed is very comfortable. Would definitely recommend a trip away here!

    5
    « Amazing stay »

Came to stay at this venue for a celebration which took place in a function room within the hotel. The area in which the celebration took place had stunning decor and service provided was amazing. Great food was served during the evening and also for breakfast the following morning. The rooms were immaculate and very spacious. Bar staff and reception staff were extremely attentive and lovely. Would definitely recommend.

    5
    « Great Night Stay »

Nice size room with a sea view Staff were very helpful and polite The food in the restaurant was also very nice My room was presented well and all the usual amenities were provided e.g soap, plenty of towels and a bathrobe. Great hotel if you want a cheap place to stay on the east coast

    « Weekend with friends »

Lovely hotel in a great location. Went there to celebrate one of my friends 21st birthdays and wasnt disappointed. Really friendly owners, would definitely recommend it for having functions or just a nice weekend away

    5
    « Fantastic stay »

Attended an event here, fantastic evening and lovely hotel. Staff were lovely and the hotel was perfect - right on the seafront - A great weekend. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay locally.

    « 1 Night Stay »

Can't really fault it for a 1-Night-Stay, was where we needed to be, clean nice atmosphere in the evening - didn't eat there. Creaky floors but thats to be expected in old buildings. Overpriced breakfast for us so we didn't have breakfast there either.

    « Outstanding! »

Went for lunch at The Hatfield Hotel in Lowestoft for the 3rd time this year. The service is outstanding! Such friendly serving staff, helpful and cheerful, nothing seems too much trouble. We were there during the change over of serving staff but this seemed seamless. Food was very good, great size portions and good menu choice. Would definitely recommend and will definitely visit again, thank you!

    « HOT TIPS »

We stayed for 2 nights. The first night we were in room 204 THAT WAS SWELTERING. Although a very helpful chap came to the room with a spanner the radiator would not turn off. He bought a fan too, but even with that & the window fully open still we still were unable to sleep. The next morning we went to reception and a very nice lady moved us to room 203. We had an excellent night's sleep. Breakfast on both mornings was varied, very tasty & well cooked. All the staff were very nice.

    « Excellent value »

Visiting Lowestoft for a couple of nights with two friends and the hotel I used to stay at was closed. Found this place online and booked a twin and a single. Good price. Excellent location on the esplanade. Got a parking space opposite in the car park. Very attentive staff, clean, well appointed, comfortable rooms. Also got a discount on the final morning's breakfast by paying for it the day before. Would certainly go there again.

    « Comfortable stay »

Recent stay in great sea view family room. Only thing could do with light between twin beds.Very comfy with all requirements. Breakfast was very good plenty of choice & well prepared.Unlikely stay in Lowestoft again as towns really got a run down feel to it.But would certainly recommend anyone need accommodation here would be as good as would find anywhere else in the resort.

    « Nice hotel »

The hotel is very nice and clean we stayed in the lodges which were a little small and the bed was not great but for a short stay manageable a new mattress is probably needed . The staff were very friendly the restaurant staff excellent plenty of bar staff for busy night's cocktails great and well priced and the food was fantastic although if I had to moan a little too much .Breakfast was well worth the money and the carvery once again can not fault what a shame the weather can not be the same lovely weekend break

« Seems to be an Issue at this Hotel booking a Seaview Room »

Seems to be an Issue at this Hotel booking a Seaview Room as pre booked again this year and messed up again, This happened Last year also. Standard of Check in / booking in advance needs majorly looking into - Very dissapointed

    « Great quality food »

Visited for lunch with the wife and was throughly impressed with the quality of the food on offer. As a chef I always pay attention to the food being delivered to other tables and must say the quality was very high. This was only echoed by the food we recieved. Both my wife and I enjoy eating out and found the Hatfield to be a lovely location to enjoy a very high quality meal.

    « Great Food »

Had a lovely meal fish and chips first class as was the prawn linguine portions were very generous. Service good. Lively atmosphere but not rowdy took friend from up north and they were very impressed

    « Best Western Afecianado »

I must have spent more nights in Best Western's than in my own home now. As is typical in Seaside best western's; The hotel is a large, traditional hotel and stands in a prime location. For £66 with a decent cooked breakfast and free parking thrown in, it was good value. Untypical of Best Westerns; The modern bar serves a good range of ales and spills onto the sea front/ esplanade which must be a great place to basque around on a sunny day. In true Best Western style the rooms are reliably dated with a bit of wear and tear round the edges but are ultimately clean and hospitable. Flash backs to visits to the seaside with your grandparents in the 80's, happy days!

    « Birthday weekend »

Fabulous stay at this lovely hotel smack overlooking the seafront. We had 2 great nights here, the children were allowed in the bar, and we felt very welcomed. Food was great, entertainment was great. Only downside was the room was absolutely boiling and you couldn't open the windows (well only a tiny amount) So we were quite warm to say the least! Brilliant stay so much so we are doing it again this year - it's going to be an annual birthday event with Southwold thrown in too ;) defo recommend :)

« Staff brilliant (as usual) »

Always enjoy our stay at the Hatfield, and have found the staff always very helpful and friendly. The hotel has seen many changes over the past years, all of which have been improvements..Some thought could be perhaps given to space to guarantee seats for residents.

    « Mothers day »

We use this hotel a lot over recent years been disappointed with the very slow service waiting for an hour for drinks, but I am very pleased to say you have seriously upped your game,We never waited more than 10 minutes for a drink staff were brilliant as they always are,the food is always excellent , you have obviously taken noticeof the bad reviews and done something about it Thank you and well done . « Birthday celebration in the Ambassador suite »

We had a celebration in the Ambassador Suite for my father-in-law's 85th birthday. The room has been refurbished recently, and is looks lovely now. We had a 3 course meal which we pre-ordered for 45 guests, and we were extremely happy with the service we received. Shelley went out of her way to accommodate all our requests and made sure that we had access to decorate the room. She went out of her way to keep on top of the changing guest list due to the adverse weather conditions at the time of the party. Portion sizes were very generous, but not overpriced, staff were polite and professional, we couldn't have asked for better. My father-in-law was really happy with his party and all the guests had a lovely evening. Thank-you to all involved.

    5
    « Wonderful dinner »

I had the cajun salmon and sweet potato fries for dinner. The salmon was cooked to perfection. My husband had fish (a good size piece of fish) and chips which tasted lovely. The staff as usual were very helpful and friendly. A lovely setting for such a cold day. Will definitely return.

    « Suprise Party »

I recently hosted a surprise sweet 16th and 40th birthday party at the Hatfield Hotel. I hired the newly refurbished Ambassador Suite, which looked very chic with the grand piano and stylish bar. The staff performed above and beyond what I had expected, they were immensely helpful with all the arrangements and were able to supply extra accessorises like a Red Carpet, Sweet Cart and Photo Booth which complimented the room wonderfully. The buffet was amazing, it tasted great and was very well presented, the intricately carved garnishes were a very nice touch too. Compliments to the Chef! Some of the guests conveniently booked a room and were very impressed with the cleanliness of the room, sea views and cooked breakfast. Myself, the guests and most importantly the birthday girls where delighted with the venue, food and customer service and couldn't praise it enough. A big thank you to all at the Hatfield, in particular Karina and the Manager Steven for help making our evening so special.

Been here several times and food is great and plenty of it, lovely looking out to the sea, deals are in the local paper 49%off which makes it a bargain. Jug of water on the table to which is nice to have.

« Great staff & food, WORST SLEEP EVER! »

I stayed here purely as I was working nearby, with an 03:30 start time that's a.m! I hoped only for food & sleep, all the staff from the 2 receptionists to all the waiting staff were FAB! The food too was really tasty & served quickly. The room in its day may have been OK but sadly that day was about 30 years ago. It was a tiny single, being able to almost touch both walls at the same time, the decor tired & dated. The bathroom was the smallest I've ever seen, I could touch the wall opposite when on the loo with my head! The shower was just a shower tray on the floor with a curtain around it & there was no way on Earth you'd have fitted a bath in there. Then there was the noise, constant humming from what I assumed was the kitchen extractor chimney directly outside the window, the windows didn't cut out any street noise be that traffic or the constant shouts from local revellers, lucky me it was Boogie Nights in the bar - bad enough BUT the worst was the constant noise from what I think were the pipes, at 1st I thought someone was drilling somewhere, I even tried putting a pillow over my head to no avail. I am supposed to return after my shift to stay another night then travel home the day after. I couldn't possibly & will drive the 5 hours home after my shift. No doubt I should have asked for another room, if I'd been staying another night I would have. This hotel has great food, staff & bar area but the rooms NEED HELP NOW, such a shame.

« Nightmare stay Friday night at Hatfield hotel Lowestoft »

Writing this review while you can hear music blaring out in our room from the disco underneath our room due to not being able to sleep , rooms not much better hard beds were you can feel the springs underneath and poor quality pillows and furnishings, had food earlier on in the restaurant food ok but service was apporling staff need training , probably one of the worst experiences I have had in a hotel and we have travelled all over the world , it's now 23.00 hrs music still blaring out, come on best western are you a hotel or disco ,because you are not being fair taking in guests and treating them like this we carnt be the only people in the hotel having to listen to this racket shame on you!!!

    « Holiday »

I stayed at the Hatfield to visit family. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room nice and clean. Dinner was great and the waitress was really happy to engage with me. Thanks heaps for an enjoyable stay and return to the town I was born in and had not returned to for 20 plus years.

    « Group Booking »

Booked four sea view rooms. All paid same price but found 2 of us had very small rooms with just a shower, the other two had much larger rooms with bath and shower. Can't understand why we all paid the same price. When I queried this at reception I was told I was paying for the view! I thought I was paying for a room as well as a view. Hotel is looking shabby with lots of furniture showing marks and stains. Two sofa's in the bar area had obviously had a number drinks spilt on them but not really cleaned. In two of our rooms lights not working in bathroom and bedroom. Another of our group rooms the TV remote didn't work. The outside of the hotel near the car park looks like it could do with painting as again it looks shabby. As we came back to our rooms from breakfast we had to negotiate clean linen in piles on the floor outside each room ready for the next occupants. Again not a good look - maybe a linen trolley would be a better look. We paid £92 for each room for the night, expensive for the condition for the hotel, expensive for the standard of accommodation.

    « Mortons - The Terrace »

Have visited a number of times. Service is always prompt and attentive, with rather large portions of food. Views along the esplanade are fantastic and there's something for everyone. You have managed to cater for a party of 14 of us alongside a party of three on a fee occasions too. Let down by tatty old menus printed on paper with some serious grammar issues (no spacing throughout) - however an enjoyable bite with a warm welcome every time.

    « Oh dear »

Dreadful noisy room over looking the waste bins an the road . We booked through Booking .com and definitely must have been given the worst room in the hotel. Noisy, empties being loaded into the waste bins . Don't stay here unless you are desperate

    « Mortons Bar & Grill »

Good service from friendly staff; the mega sized slow cooked ribs were cooked perfectly and really tasty, wife had the prawn linguine which I tried and now I need to go back to have that. Good food, nice atmosphere and reasonably priced.

    « Restaurant »

Food was very good. Not a huge choice if you didn't want a burger but what I had was lovely. The staff were very friendly and obliging and the atmosphere was welcoming. We did have a discount voucher but we would still go without that.

    « Company event »

We recently held a festive company event at the Hatfield and the employees there could not have been more helpful and welcoming to us, both when planning and arranging the event, and on the night itself. They were dedicated to making sure that everyone enjoyed the evening as much as possible, and were definitely focused on customer service and personalisation - which makes a huge difference as most venues are simply focused on making as much profit as possible from each booking. The venue is excellent as it is decorated beautifully over Christmas and in an employee survey we carried out afterwards a large number commented on how much they had liked the venue and enjoyed the atmosphere. 0% voted that it was poor or very poor, and the highest rated response was excellent (46%), with 89% of employees voting that it was excellent or very good. Many commented 'nothing' asked what they would change about the venue or other aspects of the party. Some of the general comments included: ?The hatfield is a great venue for the party and their food is exceptional.' ?Great Atmosphere, Great food, nice to mix with colleagues out of work. Loved the venue nice and open plan. Good hotel staff'. We received a large number of comments on how excellent the food was, as the chef and his team had created a huge buffet spread (with vague direction from us but executed to an extremely high standard of quality and variety). There was plenty of bar staff and others walking round throughout the evening to offer food and any help needed. Thanks again to Steven and his team for making our event a success.

Friendly staff, good value food. Great coffee sitting on the terrace over looking the sea. Nicely sheltered from the wind by glass screens. A great place to people watch! Haven't tried the carvery yet..

    « Lovely stay »

Just returned from our second stay at the Hatfield, a little confusion on booking in as my wife's mother's room was in the main hotel and ours was in the lodge the staff soon rectified this the rooms were very nice all the comforts we required the heating was great. The bar had a good selection of wines and beers and very good food, and the location of the hotel is great for bars restaurants all a short walk away. All the staff were very friendly wouldn't hesitate to stay there again

    « Christmas Day dinner »

My family and I came here for Christmas Day dinner. We were greeted in reception by Paris and Emma P who were very polite, professional and happy to help. We were shown down to the ambassador suite where we were quickly shown to our table. We had not all even sat down before our starters were brought to the table. We were not offered any drinks so had to go to the bar to get our own. Once our starters had been cleared we made our way to the carvery unit where there was a good selection of meats and vegetables available. The chef who served us was very polite and welcoming. We hadn't all finished our main course when the young girls started to clear our table which made those of us who were still eating feel rushed to finish our meal. Our desserts came which were delicious as were the starter and main courses however the whole experience felt very rushed. I would come again as the food was good but I feel the waitresses could do with more training.

« Family Christmas Get together »

What a lovely view from the terrace bar towards the sea. Just a shame that the service and food still is not great. The service by the waiting staff in the restaurant is poor. The bar staff, Tamzin, Sam and Jade are great and seem to enjoy the job they do. The food is adequate, but they never seem to serve fresh vegetables, only roasted veg. The desserts are mostly bought in and not made in house, so the quality of them is ok. I just don't understand why the management don't really bother to make this place a destination to go to drink and eat. Such a lovely view in nice surroundings, but the staff (in general) and food are just adequate. Don't be put off, just note that there are other better places

    5
    « Festive fun »

We went to a festive afternoon tea at the hotel . We had a lovely array of sandwiches, scones and cakes and unlimited tea or coffee, or a glass of prosseco. There was also a singer who was very good and sang requests too. A very pleasant afternoon to start our Christmas celebrations.

« Terrible Service & Took My Money Without Authorisation!! »

Terrible Service! I didn't even get a chance to stay as I had to cancel, but when I called to cancel they said there was no booking on the system under my name. So we agreed though that was a bit ridiculous (what if I had arrived to check in?!) at least it meant my room wasn't being held and I wouldn't be charged. Then when the booking date lapsed, they charged my card anyway. Have called 3 times now trying to get a refund and they are unhelpful and unsympathetic, just giving me the manager's email address and saying I probably can't get the money back, but to try e-mailing him. I did ask for his phone number but they wouldn't give it to me. The manager has never called. Reception desk, however, called and said I can have 50% of my booking amount back, and that's that. I would advise you AVOID at all costs! Awful! It's just before Christmas too. Sort it out guys!

« Great location, already booked to return. »

We had a sea view room which looked out over the promenade to the beach/sea. It was magical seeing the sun rise up over the sea, one morning from our bedroom window. Location was prime, room was fine. Inclusive hot and cold breakfast was worth it, cold buffet was help yourself and hot was cooked fresh to order. Only a 10 minute walk (going over the port bridge) to the town centre/high street. The corridors had speakers in the ceiling and one evening (Sunday) the loud music could be heard in the bedrooms, which we thought was a bit unnecessary, it did stop at 11pm. Because of location we've chosen to return next month.

    « regular customer »

As a regular visitor to Lowestoft and the surrounding area we try to stop here all the time as it has a lovely sea view and very friendly staff with a very good bar area overlooking the beach and the sea and when the weather permits a lovely seating area outside for drinks and meal.

    « enjoyable evening »

The staff are always friendly and welcoming and put you at ease .Al ways an exceptional meal and service is brilliant. We often go there with our daughter and son in law. They frequent the hotel more often than us and recommended it to us for an evening meal as the menu is excellent with a really good choice of food and the atmosphere is really relaxing. Please keep it up.

« Oh dear, a disaster.... Awful all over. »

The first room I was given had a toilet with soil paper in it and stained towels on the bed... Not a good start. The 2nd room was OK, but the shower did not drain properly, so had to stand in water... And the shower tray rim was minging (slide back the doors..... Like you do to take a shower!!) the doors didnt shut or hang properly. This place is tired. Staff outside smoking, in the morning! The car park is across the street. Boo. Disturbed after 11pm by an alarm! Quick response from reception. Disturbed again at 6am by idiot in his underpants trying to get into his room! No response from reception. Which was also unmanned again at breakfast time. Really grumpy. Breakfast was awful. Weak coffee, weaker tea! Cooked to order.. That a blatant lie. It's been precooked, trayed up and plated later Not recommended, never again.

    « Just the job »

Very happy with my stay at the Hatfield in Lowestoft, I'm becoming a regular visitor, the Hatfield is ideally placed for me, in addition the sea view in the morning at breakfast with the sun rising is stunning.

    5
    « A beautiful setting »

We have lunch at the Hotel Hatfield regularly, and are drawn back time after time for the uninterrupted sea view and excellent food. The food is well priced and always of an excellent quality. The bar does get busy, more staff at peak times would be good as there is often just a single person serving.

    « Fabulous »

Really enjoy having a pot of real tea with great sea views the staff are always friendly it's a treat to go there the hotel is in a prime location and is beautiful to sit outside inside tastefully decorated and has a great atmosphere

    « Over night stay »

My Mum and I stayed there, and the staff and entertainment were fantastic, but our room was a bit disappointing. Rather small, smaller than average double bed and window right next to a generator! So not much sleep! Bedding and towels clean, but didn't smell fresh.

    « Weekend break »

Friendly welcome at reception and waiting and bar staff attentive. Quiet room at the back. Ideal location when visiting Southwold and other small Suffolk villages. Front of hotel looks across the sea, nice little stall selling fresh seafood short walk away.

    « Excellent venue. »

We have not stayed at this Hotel, but have visited it on many occasions as it is local to us. We have had coffee and meals here many times, and have never had cause to complain. The Staff are always friendly and helpful, and the prices are resonable. There are excellent views over the Promenade and beach to the sea. Recommended.

« Great room with a view but shame re general customer service and standard of breakfast »

Booked the Elizabeth suite as a special occasion.view from room and size of room fantastic. Furniture ie coffee table tired with cup marks on it.paid over £90 for 1 night so expected special. General rooms on booking . Com £41 !! Ate lunch in the bar service at counter to order very slow. Staff ignored me and were talking amongst selves. customers definitely don't appear to come first.lunch was acceptable. Breakfast fell far short of expectations. I asked for a gluten free English breakfast. When it arrived it had hash browns sausages and black pudding on the plate. Had to send it back. It returned later but husband had nearly eaten his. The quality of both was not the best!! The gluten free sausages were disgusting. Shame as there are so many decent ones around. Look at your suppliers best western !! Customer service training needed go and visit Potters for a day where ALL staff have been trained to the highest standards to make customers want to come back . The room and the view are what I would return for. Attention to detail could quickly turns your service around.

    « One night stay »

Stayed at hotel for one night as going to theatre. We obviously did not get one of their new refurbished rooms. It was sufficient and nice view of the sea but the mattress was appalling. My wife was so uncomfortable she could hardely move in the morning . Really need to do something about the bed

« went just for dinner not to stay »

I went to this hotel for dinner with my parents. It is on the seafront and a absolutely lovely setting. The inside was equally as appealing. The staff were so lovely, chatty and attentive. I had the scampi and chips, then the warm chocolate brownie for dessert. The food was amazing and not too expensive. My dad had the fish and chips which was a huge portion but very good quality. My mother had the minute steak salad which was cooked to perfection. I really enjoyed my time here and I will definitely be coming back. I could not find any faults.

« Lovely hotel but let down by a few issues »

The hotel is modernized in places and the bar is particularly nice with a fabulous decking area overlooking the sea. We were lucky enough to catch some live entertainment by a local artist and we were very impressed. We stayed in the Elizabeth suite which is a luxuriously large room with a fantastic view of the beach and I would love to have given it a five star review however it was let down by the condition of the bed and the cleanliness in the bathroom. The bed is in bad need of replacement and has visible sagging on either side which led to a very bad night sleep. The bathroom at first glance looked fantastic but the shower tray was blocked and it was necessary to keep turning the shower water off to let the water drain away. The toilet seat does not fit the toilet, it's a couple of inches too small which means that your leg touched the pan which was not nice.... but what turned me the most was the dirty toilet pan. There was poop around the top of the rim! We enjoyed a very nice meal in the restaurant in the evening but breakfast the following morning was a bit of a letdown. I would be happy to visit the bar again but I would only stay at the hotel again if they replaced the bed!

    « 4 day winter break. »

Another visit to our favourite hotel in Lowestoft. We always book a sea view room, lovely to be able to see and hear the sea. Decent sized room with t.v. tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast good and so are the meals in the Morton's restaurant. The lounge overlooks the sea front and is always busy even in November. Staff are friendly and efficient.

    « Sunday lunch »

We had a carvery lunch, the meats were very well cooked, there was a good selection of vegetables, most of which were fresh with gravy and sauces. This venue was a very popular choice with many family groups

    4
    « Lovely Sunday Carvery »

I have now been here twice for Sunday dinner with my Mum who lives locally. We have really enjoyed the Carvery on both occasions. The beef was excellent and really good quality and cooked perfectly. The choice of vegetables is good too and nice roast potatoes. The service was very good and friendly and although it was quite busy we were seated and eating very quickly. The view is great looking out over the beach, it was a bright sunny day and we needed a walk along the seafront after eating too much. It's good value for money in a very pleasant atmosphere and we will definitely return.

« Not the mot enthusiastic welcome! »

I checked in here late afternoon on the day. The in-house receptionist was training a new employee. If she intended to set a good example she failed dismally. She was curt, unwelcoming and quite honestly made us feel that we were, a nuisance. She kept us waiting for quite some time while she gave instructions to the trainee without a smile or apology The payment was demanded before we were given the keys. and quite honestly for £110 for one night in a three star hotel I would have expected breakfast to be included. The room was fine if small . A note was pushed under the door demanding that we did not smoke - we didn't. The receptionist the following morning was pleasant and polite but I would certainly not stay there again

    « 70th Birthday »

Sunday 22nd 2017 my husband celebrated his 70th Birthday with a meal for 30 guests inclusive of children. The hotel and staff went out of their way to ensure that a good time was had by all, but the main thing was everyone there had a choice off the menu or the option of the Sunday Carvery. Some family members chose meals off the menu and about 11 of us chose the roast. The chef did not want us to have to go upstairs to the main carvery area so he arranged us to have our own carvery in the room we were eating in. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed all the food and found the staff to be helpful and friendly. Due to having the room on our own the younger children where able to run around like young children do without causing any disturbance. Would recommend anyone wanting to have a good meal at a fair price with goo service to use this hotel.

    « Beautiful location »

Popped in for a quick drink whilst walking along the seafront in Lowestoft, the location alone is well worth a visit. We didn't eat but from what we could see of other diners it all looked lovely. On our visit they could've done with more staff behind the bar.

    « Nice lunch »

On a beautiful Sunday morning we found the Hatfield by chance and decided to have a light lunch. Amazing location over looking the beautiful Lowestoft sand. We enjoyed coffee, some food and a general chill out. Very nice, thank you

    « Afternoon tea »

Recently visited the hotel Hatfield for afternoon tea with friends and family and would highly recommend it, staff were very friendly service was great an food was yummy, never had a bad meal at this hotel

    « Bad experience »

The room is super tiny and no place to put the luggage, the towels etc. the bed and mattress condition are not acceptable, heating not working in the room, the toilet is old, the WC flush is not working properly, the level of cleanliness in the room and the toilet is far below acceptable. The hotel is old, one hears every single person in crossing the corridor or in neighbouring room etc. therefore I was awake most of the night. I complained to hotel manager, they tried to accommodate in a shy way, however the main answer was that the hotel is fully booked and no other room is available, we are sorry. Since the room is already paid, I had to chew my discomfort. I strongly not recommend the Hatfield ? Best western Hotel in Lowestoft.

    5
    « An impromptu lunch »

We ducked in here for a quick lunch as the seafront was looking a bit threatening as regards the weather. For simplicity we decided to have a carvery. There were three of us plus my lady's grandaugter. We started our visit by sitting outside on the terrace, overlooking the sea, but the onset of the potential grotty weather materialized and everybody dived inside. The carvery was above the usual standard of your average carvery with really nice meat and nicely cooked vegetables. The staff were welcoming and very friendly and this goes a long way to any visit. I can do nothing but reccommend a visit.

« My stay at Hatfield »

The hotel was welcoming and the staff were friendly, courteous and eager to please. It was clean and comfortable in all areas. The food was good and a fair price. My room was very good - everything I needed was there - comfortable bed, tea and coffee making facilities, shower, shower gel and shampoo etc. it was an overall excellent experience staying at this hotel and I would recommend it anyone who enjoys excellent accommodation. I have never been to Lowestoft before and was pleasantly impressed by the town and seaside areas.

    « Anniversary »

Booked The Elizabeth Suite for our anniversary weekend. I cannot praise this hotel enough. The room was amazing with panoramic sea views, a huge bed, seating area with large freeview tv and a massive bathroom. From the time we arrived until our departure the staff were some of the friendliest and most efficient we have ever encountered. Food in the restaurant was excellent and the entertainment on Friday and Saturday evenings was very good. Even the weather was kind to us. We will certainly return and would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a hotel in the area.

    5
« Always nice to return »

Always get a warm welcome when we return. Although we had a smaller room this time and a smaller bed at the same price as the last visit, so must check that next time when booking. Good breakfast and meals and a lovely seaside view.

    « dissapointed »

As my partner is severly disabled - always check hotel websites for disabled facilities, The Hatfield Hotel said it was wheelchair friendly, with that I expect it to be accessable in the hotel, bedroom etc. when booking I stated that an accessable room/wetroom was required.. this 2 day stay was a surprise for my partners 75th birthday, on arrival the car park did not have any disable parking bays, on booking in the receptionist said the room allocated had 3 steps up to it, after sometime the receptionist found another room which had no disabled bathroom vacilities - after some time the receptionist apologised and said the Hatfield did not have any adaptable rooms for disabled people, the receptionist was kind and did really try to help - we had to return home, fortunately we live near to Lowestoft - hotel is not wheelchair friendly and need to delete this from its website

    « Lovely relaxed atmosphere. »

We always come here for a nice relaxing drink whenever we are down the beach, or even going for a walk! Would recommend due to the lovely staff and the great view of the seafront! Also areas to sit if windy.

    4
« Nice coffee on the terrace. ... »

We stopped off here today for a coffee (and in my case a scone and jam....) whilst sitting in the sunshine on their terrace, watching the angry dark clouds a few miles offshore. Good coffee, nice scone, quick service at the bar, and no interfering seagulls. A very pleasant half hour.

    3
« Quick stop for lunch »

It was beautiful weather but quite windy when we arrived for lunch but because of the glass screen we were able to sit outside. The ale was ok and the food as you would expect in a chain pub but the facilities were excellent for a wheelchair bound customer.

    « Great position »

Lovely location with the pedestrian promenade between the rear of the hotel and the beach. Wonderful views from the dining room and bar. Comfortable sofas and generally good seating. If the weather is good the outside area is well catered for with glass surround to help keep the wind off. Our room was to the side,, so we got a glimpse of the sea. It was comfortable overall but really needs a towel rail in the bathroom, two hooks on the door made us unable to spread the towels out to dry and therefore they needed replacing each day. Nice to have a bath and shower and the toiletries were good and replaced. The breakfast was lovely. Such a change not to have a buffet for the cooked food. Everything fresh to order and nicely done. Excellent fruit etc available to help yourself and great pastries and croissants, if only I had enough room to eat them! Good coffee too. Nice friendly staff. We had fish and chips in the restaurant the first night and this was great value at £10 a head and was an absolutely huge portion and tasted very fresh. They could have done with another member of staff in the bar as the tables were not cleaned and cleared very quickly. The parking seemed to be ample, just across the road. I would have given this excellent except that neither tissues or free bottled water are provided in the room, and of course the lack of a towel rail. Little things, but would recommend this hotel for a relaxing couple of nights, Not much in Lowestoft itself but a reasonable location for exploring along the coast.

    « My wedding day »

    « Our wedding »

From the first time I arrived here to book our wedding, I was greeted by the most friendliest staff. Sammy on reception is so welcoming and friendly. Then you get to meet the most awesome wedding planner Shelley. This lady makes your wedding a piece of cake. She takes all the stress away for you. We had our wedding in the library. This room is gorgeous and Shelley sets it up perfectly. Then after your ceremony there is Shelley again making sure everyone has enough champagne and bucks fizz. Then you have your meal. And by god is the food awesome. Shelley and her wedding team keep the 3 course meal that we chose running smoothly. A massive thanks to the chef Alan as all 3 courses were amazing. We also had our reception here in the evening. Super chef Alan put on a massive buffet for us in the evening. Lots of different hot and cold food. You always worry with buffets is there going to be enough, is it going to be nice. You have no worries here. Everyone enjoyed and there was definitely plenty of food. At the end of the night we got to stay in the bridal sweet. This room is huge and gorgeous. Our wedding experience at the Hatfield hotel couldn't of gone any better. We enjoyed that much we would love to do it again. If anyone is reading this and thinking of getting married here, I thoroughly recommend it. Don't think you will find a more perfect place. A big thank you from us to all the wedding team, sammy, Alan , Casey and most importantly Shelley. With out you our day wouldn't of been so perfect.

    « Very Disappointed »

The check in experience was terrible with the receptionist not checking the facts and trying to charge us again for something that we had already paid for. The menu was uninspiring and over priced, fortunately Wetherspoons is only a short walk away and have better disabled facilities and don't serve undercooked chips. The good thing is breakfast is cooked to order rather than being dried out under lights and help yourself style, the chef must learn how to control the amount of oil that he serves with the food.

    « Afternonn tea »

A very warm welcome by Stephen M who showed my wife & I to a reserved table in a quiet corner of the restaurant with sea views. We did have to request an additional plate of sandwiches as one plate is not sufficient for two persons & an additional jar of jam as one jar is not enough between two persons. Requests were swiftly dealt with and we enjoyed our cream tea, the only slight criticism being that the scones were overcooked and very crumbly. Overall very good value for money. We were well looked after by Ellie & Stephen M who were both very attentive, in fact all staff were a credit to the hotel. We will definitely return & thoroughly recommend.

    « Family break spoilt »

No sure where to start ! booked a family room and a double room as traveling with family first time using booking .com as my mum and dad has always booked direct as they don't have internet access. We didn't know that the hotel has taken over the wine lodge across the road and turned in to the Hatfield lodge. So family room was in hotel and double in the lodge which upset my mum as she goes to bed earlier than my dad and tho the room in the lodge was lovely she felt uncomfortable being in the room on her own. The family room on the other hand was very dated ok has a big tv but beds so uncomfortable every time you moved creaking also you could hear other guest beds creaking in other rooms needless to say had very little sleep. Unfortunately my 2 year old nephew was unwell while we as away. One day as he was walking though the bar area to get outside where he was sick obviously this is something no one wants to see but the poor boy is only 2 ! And was clearly unwell! Was meet with looks of discussed by residents and staff members a like. My sister got on her hands and knees to clean up with baby wipes as several members of staff just looked on in disapproval no offer of help when her first concern should have been her poorly child's needs. That night we waited 10 minutes to be seated in restaurant while two members of staff chatted to the same guests obviously unaware we was waiting ! Eventually got seated and was told she would take our order 10 mins later someone else asked if we had had our order taken said we was told she was coming back anyway we ordered asked if starters ordered could come as same time as mains but of course they didn't also order a drink waited 15 mins before being told barrel needed changing so cancelled drink. At this point we brought up all the unhappy experiences detailed above was told that a member of management would come and discuss them with us but after some time then told no management was available. My mum and dad have stayed her on 5 occasions and always had a great stay but the was disgraced by the service and won't be staying again.

    « Not good !! »

I am currently staying in the hotel and I'm shocked at the facilities. After mix up with my booking I got put in the room with a view of air conditioning unit and garbage area. My room is next to the malfunctioning boiler or water tank which made noise all night ( frankly it sounded like trains changing tracks ). Reported it at the reception but was told nothing can be done as hotel is fully booked. I'm here for work not pleasure so I can't event get drunk and ignore it. Most of the staff I dealt with very lovely and helpful however I cannot wait to be back home. I was planning to extend my stay for the weekend with my husband but NO!!!!

    « Tired & outdated »

The litter-ridden and shabby looking frontage to this Hotel was representative of the interior, unfortunately. Been a long time since we stayed in a Hotel which had a carpeted reception area, which was possibly the root cause of the stale smell when you walk in. The reception desk itself was very old-fashioned, very untidy and unprofessional looking. The receptionist had difficulty, unsurprisingly, explaining the Hotel policy for paying - did we want to pre-load (which appeared to involve setting a limit) or pay cash or this or that?? Very confusing! We thought our booking also included breakfast, but apparantly that would cost another £9.95 per head, which would have taken the total cost to almost £90!! Way way overpriced! We were sent through the Restaurant to our room as this was the quickest route and, to be honest, what we saw and smelt made our minds up for us that we wouldn't want to eat breakfast here anyway. The carpets, especially on the stairs, were very old & threadbare. Whether it was our error or the Hotel's we were not sure, but we had been booked into a twin room, rather than a double. After enquiring if we could swap, we were told they were fully booked so we pushed the single beds together..........pretty disgusting to see the pile of dust/fluff and dirt behind and underneath the bed we moved, in addition to loads of spinkled sugar on the floor! Clearly the furniture is never, or very rarely, moved to clean the room! Facilities in our room were adequate, however very tired and in need of renovation/modernisation. The lid to the cheap-looking bathroom bin had at some point been broken but clearly never fixed or replaced. There were two holders for beakers on the bathroom wall, but no beakers! The curtains were very old and actually a good few inches shorter than the linings! The floorboards in the corridor leading to our room creaked like mad and to close the door properly you had no choice but to pull hard which created a loud bang .........we felt bad for our neighbouring room guests. The street noise greeting us in the morning was horrendous! Had we known what a busy area this Hotel was set in, we would not have booked. Had there been an ability to give a rating of 2.5 that's probably closer to what this Hotel should currently be rated, but I rated upwards rather than down taking into account the conservatory/seated area which gave good sea-views

« excellent hotel for a family hreak. »

We were a group of nine including three children. We had four rooms and all of them were clean and comfortable. The children slept like logs. We all ate very well...breakfast lunch and dinner. For the adults the menu was interesting and well cooked. The kids ate more than enough which is a bonus away from home. The location is great obviously and the hotel maximizes this with an open feel to the bar and dining area. We have stayed here previously and will undoubtedly do so again. The staff were efficient and friendly. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a cracking hotel right on the seafront.

    5
    « Didn't stay here, but wish I did! »

I only ate lunch here but it was probably the most delicious panini, chips, and salad I've ever had! I had the brie, bacon, and cranberry panini which was very tasty. The chips were cooked to perfection. The salad was fresh and perfectly balanced with a delicious dressing. It was just the right amount: not too much, not too little. A reasonable price as well, considering the divine food and stunning views.

    « Overnight stay ... »

We stayed at the Hatfield Monday night and it was fantastic! A beautiful room overlooking the sea front, delicious food and the staff were so attentive. We had afternoon tea on their terrace literally, a few steps away from the beach. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean. The staff really looked after us. Would highly recommend.

« Perfect spot for lunch »

We came across the outside terrace as we were walking down the beach front. We had lunch and some drinks and the food (panini and chips and salad) was fresh and delicious. Not ridiculously overpriced considering the lovely location overlooking the beach. We had a lovely couple of hours here. Nice spot for a beer in the sun.

    « Superb location »

Right on the promenade, just a short walk from railway station and town centre. Friendly helpful staff. Room not in main building but in Lodge across road - no view, so disappointing. Stairs in Lodge unsuitable for very elderly , but lift in main building. Breakfast excellent choice and price. Evening meal well cooked but more like good pub grub than restaurant. Comfortable two nights there.

« Two nights was too many »

My wife and I booked this accommodation for a stop over two nights to go to a friends wedding on the Saturday. We arrived Friday afternoon and we're lucky to find one parking space in the car park opposite the hotel. We then had to go to reception to book in. I was surprised to find that the reception was a small area just as you walked in which is an area I thought was for the porter but no this was reception. I handed over my booking form and my credit card with nothing said about authorising that to be used at the bar or anywhere else. This comes into play later. We were informed that our accommodation was on the ground floor of a building opposite, which was next to the car park. No offer re carrying luggage but merely given the key to the front entrance and our room. Luckily we knew how to use the key with no instructions. On first appearance I have to say the room looked fine and the bathroom, adequate. Tea and coffee making in the room with cups and no saucers. We unpacked only to find there was no room safe. We had been informed there was one in reception but this would mean crossing the road in whatever weather my have prevailed st the time. Having unpacked we went off to walk and discover the area. Upon our return we decided to have a coffee. It had been raining while we had been out and so we were looking for somewhere warm to sit to drink. Lo and behold, most of the seats were reserved and we had to sit on the terrace where the seats were wet. My wife who had gone to order the coffee told me as she returned that she had been informed quite sternly by one of the bar staff that the use of the card at the bar had not been authorised and she therefor had to pay cash. When bedtime came in this twin bedded room which had been the only option when booking on line. Having been to the toilet we discovered that it made a loud drumming noise when flushed. I later spoke to the receptionist I had seen earlier and I believe one of the domestics and they had no clue about the noise. Later in reception we were informed that the noise was a macerator which they said they had to get sorted out. Whenever we used the toilet the noise was made so in the middle of the night for the benefit of the other guests we didn't flush. My wife pointed out the grime in the bathroom and I had noticed the stainless steel behind the toilet was dirty with water splashes. The small edge just outside the shower was grimy. When one was using the shower, there was no where to put the shower gel container or soap whilst one showered. The mirror hadn't been cleaned for some time and the shower doors were smeared. There was one hook on the back of the bathroom door and no towel rails. At bedtime it was noticed that the quilts were too small and didn't fit the beds properly. My wife and I are each five feet eight and ten respectively and not over large but large enough for the quilts to have almost no overhang around the bed. I was in fact quite cold during the night. The room we were in was on the ground floor with a road going right past the window, almost no distance away. There was a KFC on the junction where the boy racers seemed to like revving away from. That was Friday night so by the time we went to bed Saturday upon returning from the wedding we're had attended we plugged our ears with wax earplugs we had purchased Saturday morning. The groom informed me that he had stayed in a Best Western in Great Yarmouth and it seems that wasn't much better. I'm sure there are other matters I should report on but to be honest I have spent enough time writing about something I didn't enjoy so that's all folks.

    « REAL ALE »

The staff are welcoming and friendly, the food is very good, but when it comes to the real ale they have only 2 choices, which means they may run out of both or just have the one choice but limited quantity, so that's starts going cloudy and runs out, if the cellar man can sort this problem out life would be a dream. The Sunday carvery is well worth the price and a good choice for all the family.

Dated decor, grubby lino in the bathrooms, stained carpet, no blinds on the windows, no sockets near the bed. Thin walls between the bedrooms, you can hear your neighbors alarm clock. The only polite staff are the breakfast staff, the rest are hostile. Awful coffee. The modern looking bar gives the impression that this is the better hotel in this area but it's not.

« Fantastic family night stay. »

Stayed here for one night. Family room for 4. Free parking at the rear of the hotel across the road. Check in was from 3pm and there was a couple of spaces left. Spaces are limited. Quick check in. Lift to all floors. We had a sea view on the 1st floor. Clean room, bathroom spotless. Good shower and decor. Clean sheets, comfy beds, desk, clock, phone, portable fan and ironing board. Free toiletries in the bathroom. The room/bathroom did have a slight peculiar smell. Not sure if it was cleaning product or air freshener, however after a minute or two you forgot all about it. Big TV on the wall. Quite a few channels. We had a drink in the bar downstairs. Nice terrace outside overlooking the beach. Seating inside a plenty. Couldn't ask for a better view. Piped music in the background. Nice and relaxing atmosphere. It wasn't too busy being a Thursday. The clientele did appear to be of the older generation. Bar well stocked. Plenty of draft beers such as Fosters, Carlsberg, Amstel, Heineken, John Smiths. Bar staff friendly and efficient. Smartly dressed in black and white. Drinks prices average Around £3.70 a pint. We didn't have an evening meal although it looked quite good with a kids menu in addition. We had breakfast included in our room rate. Friendly welcome. Help yourself to cereals, toast, fruit. Waitress service for tea and coffee. Cooked breakfast was absolutely delicious. Not greasy or fatty at all. Waitress was friendly and efficient. Dressed smart in black and white with a tie. You can have breakfast on the terrace. Lowestoft town is a good 10/15 minute walk. Pier is about 5 mins. The beach is lovely and clean. The hotel does have music at weekends so could be a bit noisier. Some rooms are located in a separate building across the road so check when you book a room. It's called the Lodge. A very nice stay and would come back again.

    « Excellent for a short break »

Clean, comfortable, great location, pleasant staff. Spent morning on the beach and then went to Southwold for the afternoon. Pier great and interesting tour of lighthouse. I would come back to the hotel again as a base to visit suffolk Norfolk.

    « Evening meal »

We went and had a family meal tonight and the food was amazing, steak was so mouth watering and served just how we asked. The service we received from our waitresses Sonia and Alex was brilliant, they didn't rush us and really friendly. The only thing I could find fault with was the lady behind the bar wasn't that friendly, may be a course in customer service would help her. Overall the night was amazing.

« Room missing the basics »

The hotel is in an amazing location right on the boardwalk and I must start by saying that the room is nice and modern and very comfortable, but maybe too modern for its own good! First impressions are always the right ones so here are the basic first impressions of items that are missing! - there is a closet in the room but the door nearly came off when I opened it into the room door return arm. Further the only draws in the room are the ones on each side of the bed. - there are no power outlets near each bed side table for an alarm or charger. These are only over by the TV. - cobwebs in the corner are not too good. Found when searching for a power outlet. - There are nice soaps, shampoo and shower gels in the bathroom but not a single shelf in the shower to use them from. Does one use the floor? - this is the big one, the bathroom mirror is above the toilet! This is located on the adjacent wall to the vanity. The power outlet for a shaver is located on yet another wall. Therefore to shave, wet or dry, you lean over the toilet and not the vanity. No mirror at all over the vanity. That's just nuts. I might be sounding like a big whiner here, and that's fine, but the basics are the basics and the very first things you notice when you enter a room. This isn't rocket science I don't think, but certainly basic items make things a little easier for guests. I'll adjust this as my time here continues and I certainly hope the facilities are much better.

« Improved and really nice when the sun shines »

Annual one night stay for work and it's definitely on the up. On a beautiful day the view of the car park probably wasn't quite as nice as the sea view some would have enjoyed, but who wants to stay in when the sun shines. This hotel has a brilliant location right on the beach, ideal for the bar and restaurant, and it was good to see the menu had changed since my last visit as had the food prices which previously were far too expensive for the area. So an uncomplicated good enough meal of whitebait, ribs and good quality ice cream, they throw in a 10% discount for resident so with a drink, £23 was perfectly fine. Room 201 was a good size as was the bathroom, comfy chair, fast wifi and so no complaints from me. Left too early to have breakfast but this was a very nice one night stay.

« Ice cream sudae is a rip off »

Food was average but ribs were really bland. Portion was big though. Ice cream.sundae was £6.50 and just cheap tasting icecream and sauce. Music was really nice and terrace is lovely to sit on with a lovely sea view. Staff were friedly too.

    « Coffee & lunch »

On a recent day out to lowestoft we popped in to the Hatfield Hotel for coffee & ended up staying for lunch , found the place to be friendly & nice place to sit & watch the sea as its situated onthe sea front . It quite a busy place ova a lunch time but very chilled u could sit there all day undisturbed the food & sevice was good would go back . Found lowestoft its self to be a bit in need of a face lift but the sea front is pleasent with a nice clean beach & long promanard lined with colourful beach huts .

    « Very Disappointing »

The hotel was in a very good location and the dining area and bar were very modern and attractive. However the standard of the room was very poor indeed the decor was poor and it was in desperate need of a thorough clean. The beds were also very uncomfortable. The prices of the food and drink were also very excesive, especially when you could walk 5 minutes down the road and get wonderful food at a fraction of the cost. I certainly wouldn't recommend this hotel. The staff however I must say were all very friendly and helpful.

    3
« Nice location shame about the food »

Hotel couldn't have been better placed, right on the sea front with views out to sea. The seating and decking area is well laid out with glass sides to shelter from the sea breezes. However, we had afternoon tea here. If we weren't being taken here and treated we would have given it a miss. By booking a week in advance we told them I had dietary needs but this was totally ignored and I was made to feel I was being anuisance. All the sandwiches came with a condiment or pickles etc, not one plain one so was unable to eat them. I had asked for plain scones but was told sharply that they only serve fruit ones, surely a week in advance they could have made a few plain for us then added the fruit after for other guests, it's not rocket science. The cakes were lovely and a variety. The pots of tea were refreshed. Very nice but not worth the money or hassle. On principle I go were guests are looked after so won't be returning

    « Great location »

Bookedi the Elizabeth Suite for our wedding anniversary. It was lovely with a sea view. Hotel serves food all day. Had a very nice evening meal. As it was a Friday night, the hotel had music in the bar in the evening. Apart from the beach walks, we didn't need to go anywhere else. My husband arranged with the hotel to have flowers and balloons in our room on arrival, which was a lovely surprise.

« Lovely meal and great service »

My whole family really enjoyed the Sunday carvery (9th) Everything was cooked just right with lots of choice. Special mention to the chef serving as he was so polite and called a waitress over to take my Dads plate to the table as he unsteady on his feet. A really nice touch.

    « Disappointing lunch »

I went to this hotel whilst visiting relatives in Lowestoft, never again!! To start with there was no one on reception. The main toilet facilities were closed and the available ladies toilet had only one cubicle that could be used. The waitress was totally uninterested in serving us, and we had to ask for every single thing. There were no condiments, no water automatically put on the table. After we ordered we waited for over 45 minutes for the meals to appear and then one of meals wasn't what had been ordered in the first place! Considering how much was charged for this, we expected better food and far better service. The place is a shambles.

    « Friday night stay »

Booked the Hatfield for my birthday weekend. Arrived to be told they'd upgraded our room to the Elizabeth suite. Lovely sea views and a generous sized room with a comfy bed and a nice bathroom. Breakfast was good and the staff were great. There's a good bar and decking area overlooking the beach. If you're planning a trip to Lowestoft this hotel is in a great location on the cetre of the promenade. Well worth a look.

    « Great location »

For the price we paid, this proved very good value for money. Breakfast was superb. Location very good and staff polite and helpful. The bar overlooking the sea is superb. Bonus of our stay was a live group playing on the Saturday evening. We did hear noise from a late night bar adjacent to the hotel quite late and also early hours of the morning we heard a radio which was quite loud. We did point out the radio noise to management, thinking it may be coming from the kitchen, which we was aware was below our room, however, we were told it wasn't. It was a distraction, having interrupted sleep. Cleanliness of the room could be improved. A disco went on till midnight on the Friday, this wasn't a problem to us, as our room was a short distance away from the bar, but worth knowing as a visitor.

    « An OK hotel. »

I booked a room in the lodge without realising this was separate to the hotel however seeing some of the reviews this is probably where the quieter rooms are. The rooms are well appointed with good facilities and the hotel is in a great location being on the seafront with the bar and restaurant having sea views. The town is 5 mins walk away. Whilst the rooms have good facilities they could do with a deep clean. The shower cubicle and glass was not clean, there were footprints in the bathroom and the headboard and side tables had marks and handprints on them. The bar and restaurant staff were friendly and helpful with drinks and breakfast being good. The front of house team seemed disinterested in greeting customers and happy to leave them to wait without much in the way of acknowledgement. This was noted on arrival and upon leaving.

    « Lack of Service »

Booked for 4 nights. Was told there was cocktail hour on last night at 8.00pm This was code for we are having a disco until midnight. Didn't need to go to the disco heard every song in our bedroom on the 1st floor so no sleep until after midnight. Went for dinner at 7.30 and asked if we could sit outside and was told you need to order at the bar but if sit inside we will give you waitress service. By 8.00pm nobody had come to take an order. So decided to sit outside and ordered our food at the bar at 8.00. People at next table ordered at 8.10 food served to them at 8.15. 8.25 still no food. Checked back at bar with manager sorry did not realise there was a problem. Food finally arrived at 8.30 - explanation kitchen were having difficulties!!!! Half-hearted sorry from Manager. Went for breakfast on Saturday ordered eggs benedict. According to menu poached eggs on a muffin with cured ham and hollandaise sauce. Perhaps management should tell the chef because when it came the muffin was a bap, the cured ham was bacon not properly cooked but the poached eggs were eggs but rock hard. Finally don't have any problems in your room where you might need attention because from around 8.30pm reception is unmanned because the receptionist is working in the bar. so if you need urgent attention take your mobile and be prepared to ring 999 because then you will get an answer.

« Great for a snack and drink »

As far as getting a snack and a coffee this place never fails. Great view and nice setting. Friendly and helpful staff. Can't speak for accommodation or restaurant but we have been pleased with snacks.

    « Tea for Two! »

I popped in to the Terrace Restaurant last week for tea and scones. It was a warm and sunny day so sat outside on the terrace overlooking the sea. The fruit scones (only choice) were lovely and the pot of fresh leaf tea a nice accompaniment. It was a bit disappointing that there were no more cheese scones left at 2 p.m and there was no suggestion that any more would be available that afternoon. I wonder what happens when people turn up for afternoon tea? Other than this it was a nice place to relax and have a chat over a cuppa.

    « Great location »

The room was very small, looking out to the wheelie bins, very clean and tidy though. The drinks from the bar where very expensive.got to say though, the dining area and bar was very pleasant, looking out to sea.All in all a enjoyable stay, but the overpriced drinks and food did spoil it.

    « Quick G & T »

Watered down gin at eight pounds a pop, the bar floor still sticky from the cocktail night before. So glad I wasn't staying there. Awful. Please avoid like the plague. The food looked pretty rough as well. There are other nice places to stay in Lowestoft though

    « weekend break »

Me and my husband stayed here bedrooms just bare really and old big gaps under the door where the hall lights stay on and shines under the door so we but our coats by the door to block out the light and we treated family to food here one night food not to bad I have been given worse, service on the night was slow but they are very quick giving you the bill the next day.we didn't have any coffee or milk in our room and it was cold in there on the night. We only have stayed once at the hatfield, but when we went to lowerstoft last week we went into the hotel for our brunch no clean tables and there was no watresses around for a high chair for the little one

    « relaxing break »

arrived early but our room was ready, very helpful staff booked us in hour and a half early the room overlooked the sea, was a good size and clean but a little age worn. nice location plenty of places to eat and a short walk to town and shops. had two evening meals there which were both very good, also the breakfast was very good. best bits sea view, food and very nice helpful staff throughout hotel

« Few days at seaside »

We had a seaview room ,spoilt slightly by the extension at ground level. The room was spacious Cleanish, but not super clean! Food on the whole was good.our Evening meal however was spoilt by a very poor Sticky toffee pudding.Definitely not! Just a small sponge with toffee sauce!, we paid quite alot for this. Breakfasts were good.Excellent kippers!

    « Munching at Mortons »

We popped into the restaurant for lunch and were impressed by the variety and tastiness of the food on offer. Portions were large (especially the fish & chips) and served by very pleasant staff - had we been staying in Lowestoft we'd have paid a return visit.

    « Cold spud. »

Had a lunch here recently, nice setting overlooking the beach etc, however one of the two jacket potatoes served to us was stone cold. Left my plate on the table outside to go and complain to the staff inside and was told to bring the said plate to the bar to replace, so off I trot back outside to retrieve said cold spud and take back to the staff member inside, may seem trivial but thought that I should not have to be running backwards and forward to replace my unsatisfactory lunch. I would not return here.

« Nice hotel for a weekend away »

We stayed here for the weekend as we erte attending a wedding in another locsl hotel. Rooms are basic but clean a roomy. Bathroom was a good size and had been refurbished, The common areas, bar and restaurant very nice leading out onto a lovely terrace overlooking the sea which was suntrap Restaurant food very nice. Cooked Breakfast was nice and hot. The surrounding area is a bit run down and the local shops are hardly open. In my opinion they need some sunshdes on the terrace and a grab rail in the bath. Over all a nice 3 star hotel I would go back.

    « Brilliant carvery »

« Lovely setting for a lunch overlooking the beach »

We came for a birthday lunch as a party of five. The food was varied and plentiful. Not high cuisine, but it was well cooked, and tasted lovely. We were not able to get a table overlooking the beach, and had to sit further back in the bar area, which was a shame, but tables for more than 2 or 3 near the window were very limited. It did take a while to get our order taken at the bar, partly as they were busy, but also as there was no method as to who was served next - perhaps something they could look at for a quicker and fairer experience. The food arrived reasonably quickly, although we had a slightly longer wait for our desserts. The staff were pleasant, but clearly very busy. Overall we enjoyed it, and would visit again - perhaps arriving much earlier to try to gain a table with more of a view.

    4
« Good one night visit »

Very helpful staff. clean and plesant room upgraded to sea view which was nice. Lovely meal in the restaurant in a relaxed atmosphere. Hotel has its own car park opposite which is very handy as parking seems to be a bit short in the area. Right on the prom in Lowestoft with plenty to do and see.

    « Disappointing staff »

This is a beautiful hotel in a brilliant location (on the beach) although I booked for the hotel I was put in the lodges across the road. No wifi and I wasn't happy as I was a solo traveler. When I asked about the wifi at reception he said, "sorry I'm not good with technology" and that was that. No offer to find someone else to sort it out. Staff behind the bar at breakfast were a challenge too. Luckily I was able to get a spot outside on the sunny terrace to enjoy my breakfast bap, which was lovely. I informed the receptionist of my concerns when I checked out and she said she would speak to management. That was 4 weeks ago......

    « Great location for a drink/food »

A mid afternoon, mid-week, visit. The terraces, behind roughly table-height glass panels, are a lovely place to sit in the sunshine and admire the sea. Pleasant staff and a great location. (This time it was drinks only for us but on a previous occasion we have had a pleasant lunch there). I am sure we will make an 'excuse' to come back whoever we are nearby again.

    4

« Fantastic Place to stay Overlooking the Sea »

We checked in to the Best western Hotel The Hatfield for a few days for my 70th Birthday, upon arrival we were greeted by a very pleasent receptionist who Kindley asked us if we needed any help with our cases, on entering our Room it was a sight to behold a fantastic panoramic view of the sea for miles. The room was cosey warm and spotlessly clean with a beautiful modern warm bathroom .Our beds were so comfortable i just didn't want to return home to my own bed.The Restaurant was a beautiful modern area with fantastic lighting the food was of very high standard so much so that we ate there for the entire holiday. The staff in all areas were absolutely delightful. We will definitely be going back again and I can thourghly recommed it to anyone .Fantastic stay Thankyou Best Western The Hatfield.

Have visited the restaurant twice in two weeks with different groups of friends. Everyone pleased with food and portion sizes. Drinks were on the expensive side. Great location and nice view of the beach from the bar.

« Needs a good clean and polite receptionist »

The public areas of the hotel are very grubby, with badly stained carpets, sticky floors and tables. They have very loud live music on Friday and Saturday nights, which is NOT mentioned on their website. This seems to attract large groups of younger people whose drunken behaviour and rowdiness made it impossible to get a good nights sleep. At 5am on Sunday morning guests in neighbouring rooms were still shouting and drinking. The food is very basic, but reasonably good value. Most of the bar and waiting staff are very pleasant, especially the ladies who served us breakfast. The same cannot be said for the manager and receptionist. They were quite rude and dismissive when we spoke to them, the receptionist especially had a 'you're just guests - please don't bother me' attitude, and seemed to spend most of her time away from the reception desk. Our room hadn't been cleaned properly and the bed wasn't made on Saturday morning. We will definitely NOT be returning, which is a shame as the hotel is in a stunning location and could be so much better. This hotel will do nothing for Best Westerns reputation.

« Extremely disappointing and unhelpful receptionist - avoid »

We booked the hotel but got stuck in the rabbit hutch across the road, very unimpressed. On checking in the surly receptionist shoved a card key at us and muttered a lodge number at us, said to go over the road and that it was refurbished. She eventually, reluctantly, wrote the room number down for us. The room itself - compact is the kindest description, rabbit hutch is more accurate. That would have been tolerable if it was clean and comfortable. However springs were poking through the bed and the sheets were stained. The bedroom furniture was damaged, carpets stained and it all looked in need of an overhaul. This has to be one of the worst experiences of hotel stay, made all the worse by the woman on reception who quite obviously disliked us on sight. Avoid and go somewhere friendlier and better.

    5
« I may have already reviewed, I keep going back! »

Delicious white hot chocolate on a windy day by the beach. A fresh beer or cider after a long day. Outstanding fish and chips for tea and the carvery on a sunday is just, well, I think I'll go back tomorrow as I've digested last month's one now. Nice surroundings, nice view and great food.

    3
    « Hotel hatfield bar »

Horrendous bar prices. The bar prices match Londons - pretty unacceptable for a tatty Suffolk mediocre venue. there is a sea view of sorts, the bar staff are friendly - if inexperienced and the bar area was clean. That's pretty much all I can say.

    « brilliant »

we held our annual St Georges Day dinner in the newly refurbished Ambassador suite and the meal was excellent, chef Leon even paraded the English beef in front of our guest before explaining all about where it came from before carving it in front of us all. Karina and her team of waitresses in their smart uniforms and white gloves looked after us really well. Despite the room being newly decorated they even allowed us to decorate the room with our own flags and bunting for the event.

    « Weekend spent in a disco »

I am at present in the Hatfield hotel Lowestoft. I am in room 208 trying to rest but findinding it impossible due to thumping disco in lounge below. Have rung reception server all times since 11 pm but nobody answers. We booked and payed up front for a sea view room and only noticed live music was programmed for Friday and Saturday night on arrival . Nothing on web site nothing told to us when booking. If the manager reads this we need moving tomorrow Saturday 22 nd April or our money back for deceiving us when we booked. Best western has gone down in my estimation if they let in such bad hotels (see other similar reviews) and I will be making my feeling known to the and suggesting thar best western status be withdrawn.

a modernised historic hotel that's been lovingly refurbished whilst still endearingly creaky in places, rooms are stylishly appointed and very spacious, the sea view for room at the front wonderful. staff great, and breakfast very nice, too, a very good choice for the town.

    « A welcoming comfortable stay »

We were made to feel very welcome. The staff accommodated our needs when we had an issue with the heating and needed room service. Nothing was too much trouble. A lovely spot overlooking the sea. The room was basic but had everything we needed like tea and coffee and a TV.

    « Very uncomfortable stay »

My room was tiny, no room to move. Too hot even with window open. Bathroom floor filthy with hair in corners. Shower kept going cold. Could feel springs in mattress. Curtains didn't shut properly so light came in first thing. Apart from the lovely breakfast and friendly staff serving it my stay was nothing short of awful.

    « Saturday lunch »

Food was OK. I ordered chunky chips and got skinny fries. Asked for salt and sauce but it never came. But there was only two ladies and they were rushed off there feet. Felt sorry for them. Had to wait a long time for dessert menu. Went to find one ourselves. One dessert should of been chocolate brownie and was actually sponge with no chocolate in it. People next door where waiting a long time to get there first drink. So they asked if it would be quicker to go to the bar themselves. They just got rather a rude reply back. Don't think I would return. My last meal was halloumi with med veg. The veg was out of a tin tipped over some salad leaves. Shame the food has changed so much. Used to have lovely meals here. Not a good experience.

    « Lovely stay »

Stayed here for one night when I was attending an awards night in the area. Reception staff were very welcoming and attentive, same with bar staff. Room lovely and spacious with great views of the sea. Large tv and sofa too. It was a suite and well worth paying the extra money. Bar staff very friendly again and we got back at 12am and the night porter happy to serve us which was nice to have a night cap! Breakfast was delightful and a special mention to Pauline who was so attentive over the two days I was there

    « Noisy noisy NOISY »

Had 5 night stay which was totally ruined by last night which was unbelievably noisy from DJ - whole room was shaking with the Thump Thump THUMPING of ear shattering music below our room. We complained and staff said they would lower volume BUT didn't. We were not warned of this or would have stayed elsewhere. Neither myself or my wife could hear the television on full volume and could not sleep at all. It was unbearably loud - and I am registered deaf in both ears! But I could feel the room shaking. The staff said the manager would contact us to apologise - but over 2 months later this has still not happened. Very disappointed and upset - certainly do not recommend Friday night stay. Our break was completely spoilt. It is a pity because overall staff were polite and breakfast very good - But no response from manager and no warning when we arrived at beginning of stay re Fridays unbelievably loud noise ruined stay

« very friendly, polite and discreet. Facilities are nice, lovely views of the sea. »

On arrival staff already knew who I was and was very helpful in letting me check in earlier than expected. My room was clean and tidy and has everything you need in your room. They have a 24hr bar downstairs that I thought was really good even though I was too busy to use it. I would definitely stay there again and come back for one of there dj nights.

    « Slight improvement »

Hotel has recently been taken over by Bets Western. The entertainment has improved, so Friday and Saturday night has a better atmosphere. The bar staff were a little lazy, and sometimes rude. The receptionist is now very pleasant and helpful. Food and drink lovely. Cleaner needs to learn some manners!! But overall a good stay. Perfect location on the sea front.

    « Great location »

Spent 3 nights in this hotel in September, had a room over looking the sea, room was large and comfortable with good size bathroom, maybe a teeny bit of redecoration needed. Car park right opposite entrance for guests and well placed for town, pubs, cafes and beach. Staff were all friendly and pleasant, especially the ladies at breakfast time, breakfast very good, especially sausages which I thought were really tasty. Overall a decent hotel in decent location.

This hotel is our lunch stop before going to Warners Gunton Hall once a year, It has its own car park and starts serving lunch at 12. Obviously you can get refreshments before that and you dont have to be a resident. It overlooks Lowestoft beach. The food is lovely and the staff excellent.

We had our wedding breakfast and reception here on the 15th October 2016, I stayed the night before and on the night of the wedding I felt comfortable and looked after from the moment I got there, we had a lovely day everything ran smoothly from start to finish I would definitely recommend the Hatfield hotel for your wedding, shelley the wedding organiser is really lovely and really goes out of her way to make your day perfect without you having to do anything, the function room is now being refitted so will be even better

Clean and tidy bedrooms, felt comfortable from the minute we got there. The staff was excellent, we have come to this hotel many times and we love it every time we come. Great scenery when you look towards the sea front from the hotel. Great parking and the bar staff and manageress Kathy were both excellent and lovely to speak to aswell as being very helpful. Will definately stay again.

« Great place with a nice bar »

The room is tidy and clean. I can get all the services I need. Had breakfast and dinner everyday during my trip and the food quality was fantastic. Staff are helpful and kind. I had even better sleeps in Hatfield than at home with the sound of sea waves every night.

« Breakfast in the sunshine »

Was recommended breakfast here by the Lowestoft Travelodge. We were lucky enough to have a wonderful, warm and sunny morning to enjoy a full English breakfast on the lower terrace with our dog. Excellent food and service.

« Amazing team, felt so much at home. »

What a great weekend spent at this hotel! Clean, comfortable, great location and stunning view with incredible warm weather for the season. A lovely team of staff too with particular thank to Kathy and Sammy who looked after us with incredible professionalism and genuine concern for guests comfort. We will be back!

« Excellence, effort and efficiency. »

Went to Lowestoft for a day out with my two disabled sons, my disabled great grandson, and two very dear friends. We decided to eat lunch at The Hatfield Hotel. What a great decision that was. We were warmly welcomed by a lady who must surely have real experience with the disabled. This lady, and her staff, were attentive without being overbearing; efficient without being distant; couteous without being deferential; and provided us with service that should be highlighted and rewarded. The food was as good as anything I have had at home and beautifully presented. We were served quickly but without being rushed. The food was served hot with quiet skill and everyone enjoyed the meal chosen from an appropriate range of dishes. We will return, with and without the disabled ones, to enjoy the great food, exemplary service, and very comfortable surroundings. Thank you to The Hatfield staff, front and backroom.

    « Wow »

Well all i can say is they puy us in a family room with a 5 and 6 year old right above the bar. Loud music all night. Noise above and below all night. Spoken to like trash by the early staff. Left at 7am to go sleep at home. 117 pounds for 1 night of rubbish with no breakfast. Broken beds for the kids as seen in pic. Absolutely disgusting place and service was abismal. 5 star my behind. What a joke

Hotel nicely situated with good size car park. Some parts of hotel looking a little tired but cleanliness was fine. room basic but fine. Food very nice at a reasonable price. All staff polite and helpful at all times. Would use again if in area.

« Shabby but not chic »

The Hatfield always used to be considered up-market so I was disappointed when I arrived to see how down at heel it appeared. The stair carpet was threadbare in places and if not replaced soon will represent a safety hazard. The rooms were cleaned to a level of hygiene but it would have been difficult to make them look welcoming with everything so shabby. Breakfast was poor to say the least and I got the feeing that everything was deep fried. On the positive side the coffee was lovely as was the weather so sitting on the deck afterwards overlooking the beach was a joy. This place could certainly do with a visit from Alex Pollizzi. On the positive side the staff were absolutely wonderful - very hardworking and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Particularly Annette who was serving breakfast during my stay. Would I stay here again? Probably not - the restaurant only really serves pub grub so I ate out therefore a B&B or a Travelodge would have been just as good and cheaper. Come on Best Western - you have two great assets - the staff and the position. Pull your socks up, The Hatfield looks as if it's dying on its feet.

« If this is a BEST Western, I'd hate to stay in a WORST Western!! »

We had used this hotel on a number of occasions previously; I vowed we would never use it again! However, with a family gathering I needed multiple rooms and, unfortunately the Victoria Hotel was unable to accommodate us so had to (reluctantly) return to the Hatfield. It must have recently become a Best Western Hotel but this 'accolade' appears to have done little to halt the decline! Our stay could have been an episode from 'Fawlty Towers'! Check in was OK but staff seemed more interested in the imminent arrival of a wedding reception. The lift wasn't working - getting 80+ year old mother up to the second floor was a challenge (this is not the 1st time the (only) lift hasn't worked), the only 'apology' was that an engineer has been called - little comfort for elderly guests. We opened the door of the assigned single room to find a guest sat on the bed - he was apologetic (more so than the staff), so back down to reception and then back up to a different room. There was a general damp, musty smell on corridors and in the en-suite bathrooms and our room had dirty mugs and an un-emptied bin. Although we mentioned this at reception, we eventually collected clean mugs ourselves. Having booked a table in the restaurant, we arrived to find that reception had not informed the restaurant. A retirement party in part of the restaurant was noisy and there was a difficulty of finding a quiet table. However, we were seated and ordered pre-dinner drinks. Pretty easy? No! The Gin and Tonic arrived without gin, the soft drink (no ice, no lemon) arrived with ice and lemon; mine was correct. The meals were lovely - sweets were another matter! The shortbread sweet arrived without shortbread and the treacle tart and custard arrived without custard! This was rectified. However the meal was spoiled by the disco underneath the restaurant (150db boom! boom! boom!) competing with the guitar/vocalist in the lounge - it appeared to end up as a competition as to who had the loudest PA system. Bedtime was no respite from the din except that the disco now had to compete with shrieking banshees, wailing harridans and other assorted bestial and/or supernatural sounds from wedding guests that seemed to continue well past 1:30am. Added to which, the bedrooms were uncomfortably hot with no opportunity to open windows due to the noise. Whilst the recently re-vamped lounge and sun deck area is lovely, there is little evidence of thorough cleaning (sticky floors / tables) and the older areas (including the bedrooms) are dull, dingy, VERY tired and neglected with threadbare carpets (including on the stairs), cobwebs, dust and grime, and a general feeling of neglect. As it was only an overnight stay and a family celebration the following day was much more important, complaining or making comment was pointless - I've done it before and had no response from management. Will be avoiding this hotel at all costs!

« Out for dinner with friends »

The food was of a very high standard, and the service was very friendly and very helpful. They had a live singer in the bar area, this added to a lovely evening. All of the facility's were very clean. Also we have stayed at this hotel before and the rooms are very clean and well presented. Thanks.

« Stay here only as a lady resort »

I am a Diamond member of the Best Western loyalty programme and stayed at this hotel for the second time to give it a second chance. The young receptionist is extremely rude and has a very poor attitude. I assume this is the receptionist that is so often criticised in these reviews. She hardly makes any eye contact, does not smile and sits in front of her computer screen giving unhelpful responses to questions. The room was exceptionally poor. It was far too warm and the radiator could not be switched off. If you open the window, you cannot sleep for traffic noise. The room has not been adequately maintained as the lamp over the desk had one bulb missing and the other did not work. The attempt to rectify the lamp was a farce and took over an hour. The positive aspect was that the duty manager (bar manager) did her best to address the matter but could not access the maintenance cupboard. Eventually the maintenance man did come with bulbs but the lamp still did not work. To give him and her their due, she was very apologetic and he did go and buy a table lamp so I could work at the desk. The duty manager also gave me a complimentary meal and drink. This is not an upmarket hotel but there is really no excuse for poor standards.

« Very nice hotel, would recommend »

We had a sea view which was lovely. Nothing was too much trouble, the Hotel Manager, Bar and Breakfast staff were nice. Very comfortable bed and pillows which took no settling in from being away from home. Easily walking distance to shopping centre and a good base to visit areas.

Must be the best coffee on Lowestoft seafront , outside seating area, protected from the elements by glass is brilliant . Very comfortable seating inside and out. Great views along the seafront. Ideal for people watching

    « Very Sorry »

Despite the friendly hardworking staff at the hotel I am sorry to say that this Hotel has gone down hill. We have stayed here every year for several years but will not be returning. Don't know what happened to the food but breakfast is appalling stayed 5 days five chances to get a decent poached egg instead of one's resembling hard boiled egg. Bacon to repair your shoes with. Mushrooms hard and shrivelled. Smoked kipper not so bad but I guess it came out of a packet and cooked as seems to me everything else in microwave. Only spread on offer are butter pats when I asked for alternative fair play they bought a tub of Flora and put on my table each morning. But this is the only hotel or guest house I have stayed in where choice not offered as a standard. Booked evening meal on first night - ate out after that! Hotel was freezing after numerous complaints to reception it took a telephone call to Best Western HQ customer services to get hotel to fix so last 2 days at hotel rooms warm despite broken window in our room - 103. Curtains actually moving when closed due to gap in window frame. This Hotel is 3 star rated AA should be ashamed also. Room cleanliness also gone down hill. Sheets not changed throughout stay toiletries not replenished. The feel of the place is as if it is being run on a budget and all about cost saving. Very disappointing stay.

    « Unexpected delights »

Golden Sands and easy walking, interesting and varied history, clean and tidy streets and a good hotel right on the esplanade. All most unexpected for what I recalled as a busy fishing port. From the harbour , through a good shopping area and onto the historical High Street above and then beyond into Sparrow's Nest Park with museums and fine 'eateries' a great weeks break with a good hotel for those relaxing hours and excellent meals.

« Lunch by the sea »

Four of has lunch here and was surprised at how nice it was and the quality of food. Presentation was lovely, but portions quite small. The hotel was extremely busy and service was good with a lovely waitress on her first day doing a fab job. Only complaint was that a waiter removed two of our plates while the other two were eating making us all feel rushed and that we needed to go.

  • 4
« Good spot for a short break »

The hotel is well situated and reasonably priced. The receptionist on check in was a bit rude, didn't acknowledged us and kept in shredding old room receipts. After that, check in was straight forward. The room was small but clean and modern. Inc. big tv and tea/coffee making facilities. Breakfast next morning was help yourself to cereal and toast and then a table service for a breakfast of your choice. Full breakfast, muffin, eggs ben and a veggie option. It was nice and good quality if not on the small portion side. I would go back, ideally located with nice outdoor area

« Not so great Western Hotel :-( »

I've stayed in Great Western Hotels before from Blackburn to Eastbourne. To say this one is poor is an understatement. My bathroom was dirty and run down with long black hair round the sink ( not mine) room 114 ,27th September. And my bedding was so worn it was falling apart. The pillows (4) were so old & flat I needed all of them so I did not get neck ache. The Restaurant was nice with a nice view , but a combination of not very hot food and listening to the staff discussing their tips put ruin to that.

    2
    « Lack of sleep »

Made a big mistake by booking this for a Friday night. Turns out Friday night is disco night at the Hatfield. Pretty sure there was no warning of that when I booked though Booking.com. Horrible loud thumping till midnight, then the party people outside the door till god knows when. Got down early for breakfast to find hungover customers in dressing gowns! (really?) being loud and blocking the main entrance while smoking - please make a smoking area somewhere discrete. And... Get new toasters! waiting forever for toast that won't toast, while a queue waits behind isn't fun. Or better still make fresh toast and bring it to the table. Rant over!

    3
« Small rooms, great breakfast »

Stayed overnight. The room was small but adequate. The desk directly below the television. Only way to see it is to be in the bed. So one can listen to the radio at the desk or lying down on the bed. To watch the television you have to sit up in bed. There was evening entertainment the night I stayed, an operatic singer The breakfast was great with service even with the slowest toaster I have ever come across. For disabled visitors there is an access ramp at the back of the hotel(on the sea front) which leads to the bar from which you need to access steps to leave.

    « Very Pleasent Hotel. »

Situated on the seafront a warm welcome awaits you hear. Parking for 25 cars opposite the hotel. Very nice and helpful staff throughout. Public areas are bright and smart. Large terrace very busy at lunchtimes on sunny days. Breakfast is not wonderful but this is only a three star hotel so one should not expect the Hilton. Only real complaint was being awoken by power decking cleaning at 0650 in the morning. Very convenient for all Lowestoft has to offer. Enjoy your stay.

    « Short Break »

Hotel needs updating, housekeeping needs upgrading. ie room needs checking for cleanliness. not all lights worked. Advertised table cloths at dinner, did not happen! After spending 3 nights in a double bed, fourth night it was changed to 2 single beds don't know why, it was changed back to a double once we phoned reception.

    4
    « Good location »

Situated on the sea front - what better view than a sea facing room. Good sized double room. The en-suite had a bath, which was a bonus. Parking free in the car park across the road from the front of the building. Free wi-fi available. Good seating area outside but they need now to concentrate on the interior especially the bedrooms as they are looking a bit worn and shabby. There is a small lift to access all floors as well as stairs. Staff pleasant and courteous. Evening meal was superbly cooked. We had 1 mains dish of spaghetti carbonara and 1 mains dish of hunters chicken and were not disappointed. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and served by a very cheerful lady.

« Great place to eat & relax. »

This hotel has had a major refurbishment in the last couple of years. It was quite good before, but now it is excellent! The staff are friendly & helpful, nothing is too much trouble. The food is cooked to order, so, although u may have to wait a little longer, the meal is cooked how u want it, it is hot (when it's meant to be!) & freshly cooked using good quality ingredients. A good chef knows how to cook a great steak, & the steaks here are very good, juicy, tender & perfectly medium rare the way I like them. The hotel itself is immaculately clean & beautifully decorated, although we haven't stayed there overnight as we are locals, living in the town. The new outside terrace area is great, u can eat at the outside tables, screened by glass walls so that u can enjoy the sea views, but are sheltered from the sea breezes. The prices are very reasonable for a sea front based hotel, an average meal from the all day menu is around £9. My husband wants me to tell u that the beer is very good, with draught beers, ales & ciders on tap, again at very reasonable prices. All in all a great place to visit for a light lunch, a filling dinner or a family meal. They will also cater for larger parties if booked in advance. It is our favourite place to eat in Lowestoft, bar none!

    « Breakfast at Hatfields »

Having been here before I was more than happy to return. It's a nice setting overlooking the seafront. Service was slow and I couldn't work out why. Having ordered coffees we waited for our full English and bacon bap to arrive. My full English was the usual fayre. The beans were dried and overcooked having suffered from excessive microwaves or sat under the heat. Should never have been served. The mushrooms were dubious but tasted ok. The rest of the meal was ok, hot and quite tasty. The toast was burnt, cold and served without butter. However for £3.95 should I complain? We decided to have more coffee but it took 10mins to get served despite being first in the queue. Sorry Hatfields but I won't be in any rush to return

    « Just not great. »

We utilized the Hatfield for a night when we had a family gathering in the area. We booked because we thought it would be a nice location on the seafront and very close to the party we were attending. The location of the hotel is probably in my opinion the only good thing about The Hatfield. We checked in and got given a twin room after I had asked for a double as I was with my fiancé, however not the end of the world. The room was a substantial size if not a bit narrow and it overlooked the bin shed where staff went to smoke and gossip. I appreciate not every bedroom can have a great view however to have the view of staff members smoking and the bin area in general being very untidy wasn't great! We came back from our party and we were told that residents could still get a drink from the bar.. I don't think the bar team appreciated this at midnight /1am as they didn't believe we were staying at the hotel and it took a good 20 minutes before someone came and served us after leaving us all waiting. Probably had the worst night sleep as the walls are very thin and you can hear generators and toilets flushing. Down for breakfast the next morning and the choice wasn't great and a lot of family had to send theirs back. Working in a hotel myself, I know it is hard to please all guests however I feel there is a lot to improve on and I would not return.

« Two night stay and Jonathan Antoine at the Marina Theatre »

I stayed at the Hatfield with friends for two nights. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the double room and the lovely sea view. The hotel is just a few steps from the beach. The room was fine but the bed was extremely hard, I ended up sleeping on top of the duvet to soften it a bit! The theatre was a short taxi ride away and the concert, which was the reason I was there, was divine. A long journey from the Midlands but I would stay there again.

    « Nice Location »

This hotel is logged as a Best Western but be aware there are no Signs that indicate this on the outside of the Hotel, and you can drive by and miss it. The Hotel mentions in its brochure and guide book that £1 Million has been spent on a refit, this apparently was mainly spent on the Frontage and Decking areas, and it now needs to invest in improving the Interiors of the Bedrooms and Hallways etc. The access for the Elderly and partially Disabled could be revamped as there are a number of Stairs both up and down even if after using the Lift. The Hotel staff thankfully were very helpful and friendly, the Bedrooms were dated and in need of a thorough deep clean and the beds could have been more comfortable. The Breakfast was sufficient a selection Cereals, Pastries,Fruit, Toast, Jam and juices, also a Hot selection, cooked to order and any requested food was supplied if available. We did not make use of the Restaurant for the Evening meal so are unable make any comments.

    « two day break »

just back from a three day break at this lovely hotel,we had a seaview room which was really nice, you could see the sea from your bed.the room was large with tea/coffee making facilities, nice bathroom with bath and shower and a nice large flatscreen tv.check in very quick lovely polite and friendly staff, all round hotel especially Kelly and Anette in dining areas.I must give Steve the manager a special mention apart from being very nice and caring not only to us but to his staff as well,he actually rang his wife and got her to bring in two garden chairs from his home so that me and my wife could sit on the lovely beach {we both have bad backs},that's service for you. we had a lovely break, food was delicious, free car park right outside,a lovely relaxing break will definitely be going back.

    « Lovely evening »

I came here to get away from the children for a few relaxing hours with my hubby. The scenery was absolutely stunning as we sat outside in the evening sun watching over the beach eating our meals. The meals where absolutely delicious and well worth the money although I feel something was missing from the scampi dish. A very nice wide range or drinks where available to choose from too. Slightly noisy due to a group of loud people but that didn't last to long until we were able to relax with a few beverages. We shall definitely be back soon!

    4
    « Always been superb... »

Has always been the best place to eat in town with a superb menu. I imagine they must now have a new chef and hence changed the menu. It now looks like a lunch menu with very little selection. Now seemingly a very average restaurant which is a shame.

    « Great Stay !! »

Recently stayed at the Hatfield Hotel. Slight mishap when booking in, but staff soon sorted the issue and was given a lovely room on the front (would recommend sea view rooms more). Rooms are nice and clean, nothing to complain about, spacious and lovely big bathroom. However, staff couldn't do enough to help us, always pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was lovely and plenty of choice, food in the restaurant in the evening was lovely too and good size portions, drinks at the bar were also reasonably priced. Great location, straight on the promenade and great bar and restaurant area to grab some lunch too. Couldn't fault hotel at all, would definite recommend and stay again !!!!!

Have stayed here before, always have an enjoyable time. Stayed in the Elizabeth suite which was very nice. Lovely bathroom amazing shower!!! The food at our evening meal was ok but was not as good as our last stay not as much choice as previously!! We were also very disappointed with breakfast!! One person had the continental breakfast and It was not very nice at all!!! The cooked breakfast was not as nice as have had previously. Overall the staff always friendly and helpful. Free car park always a bonus!! The hotel is in a great position right on the sea front therefore stunning view if u have a room with a view!!

« Disappointed in the afternoon tea »

My mum booked afternoon tea for myself my auntie cousin and my 5year old daughter when we got there they had put a highchair even tho my had told them she would sit on a normal chair we where sat in the smallest table so asked if we could move to a bigger table, the waitress then huffed and rolled her eyes and said suppose so but I will have to relay the table we then once we got sat down we ordered my daughter a meal they came and asked what we would like to drink we all ordered tea and coffee then 2 cake stands came out with 4 finger sandwiches which felt like they had been left out all day because the bread was dry! We upgraded to the sparking afternoon tea so we got a glass of fizzy which came out in dirty glasses! The rest of cakes where tiny not even a mouthful! When it came to pay the waitress didn't hang around for us to say anything and no one checked on us during the time! Won't be going back!

    « Clean & Comfortable »

After reading reviews of this hotel we were a little unsure on what we might find. No worries, first impression was very good, a very quick & efficient check-in which included a swift registration of our car for free parking in the private car-park just across the road. Our room was on the 2nd floor & we had paid an extra £10 per night for a sea view. The room was very clean, well equiped and quite large & the view was very good, well worth the extra. The hotel was situated right on the promenade and as a result was very busy all day with holiday makers eating & drinking. The breakfast on each day was good with waitress service and you could almost choose anything you wanted, the only gripe was that they were a bit slow in replenishing breakfast items, such as bread for toasting, jams, juices etc We did eat in the hotel on one night and that was OK. The staffing levels were high & they were all very friendly & cheerful. We would defiantly recommend this hotel to anyone.

    « Lunch inside »

Food reasonable except baked potato not 'crunchy' as advertised and the BLT bread a tad dry. Not memorable but for a hotel value for money. The scenery over the beach is good and it accepts wheelchairs but I don't have one. At high season and at lunch time it wasn't too busy and the service was acceptable

We decided to have a meal at the Hatfield as the sun was shining and the terrace area looked so inviting . We both decided on Saug and Mash . It came with 3 saugs and lovely creamy mash and veg . It was lovely left you wanting more and only £9 bargain, We would highly recommend this hotel as all other food looked amazing as well

Living in Lowestoft and having been here many times I was so disappointed with the food on our last visit this used to be one of the best restaurants in Lowestoft great food large portions although expensive but worth it. Not any more penny pinching portions. Quality of the burgers are worse than a burger van. There are so many things wrong with the food I haven't got time to list them all. I will not be eating here again.

« Weekend by the sea »

The Hatfield Hotel is perfectly placed overlooking the beach. The hotel advertises free parking, however the car park is small and was full so we had to park on the road a good walk from the hotel. The bar and restaurant were pleasant as was the room and ensuite. Sadly the bed left a lot to be desired as it was creaky and lumpy - not a good night's sleep was had. When we checked out we weren't asked how our stay had been, the receptionist barely acknowledged us.

    5
    « Proper seaside hotel »

I thought that the receptionist looked a bit stern when we checked in, but soon changed my mind when she gave us an upgrade to a room with a sea view, The rest of the staff were also equally pleasant and helpful and our room was very nice. There is a free car park across the road and very efficient wifi. The food in the bar and restaurant is good standard pub grub and we were given an unexpected discount on our food as we were resident. The bar sold excellent beer, Lacon's Legacy when we were there. There is a terrace overlooking the sea for when the weather is nice. Breakfast was not disappointing and overall we had a great stay in a proper seaside hotel and with a nice sandy beach opposite and a short walk to town Lowestoft has a lot to offer.

    « Perfect getaway »

Stayed Saturday to Sunday. The hotel was perfectly located and had its own car park accross the road. We had a sea view executive double which was spacious and comfortable although would benefit from a little updating. The view was breathtaking and I've included photos of this from various times of the day. The most beautiful was caught by chance when I happened to wake at 5.30am to a stunning sunrise. They had live music on the evening which was excellent. The staff are all extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious and filling. The bar itself was modern and comfortable. The bar staff very efficient wait times were minimal even when busy. Plenty of seating and the bank of windows meant the entertainment and the sea could be seen from the bar and restaurant areas as well as from the outside seating. I would return in a heartbeat.

« Restaurant poor service poor food awful and some not edible »

I booked a table for my sisters baby shower on arrival they showed us to our table a small table for 10 people, which we could not all fit round and eat comfortable. We asked for a bigger table and we're moved to the Library room. This lacked atmosphere as we were in there alone and no windows opened and on a hot night it was very stuffy. We waited over an hour between our starter and main course. When I asked about this they said a table on 15 had pre ordered so they had priority. We were not told this was a possible option when we booked the table. When the food finally came only 4 out of the 10 meals were edible. I had the chilli prawns which were over cooked and came with white bread dispite asking for brown. Lasagne was chopped pasta no tomatos very dry and taste less. Onion rings came out with a cm of oil in the bottom of the bowl. The prawn salad had about 5 prawns in it was more rosemary sauce than anything else. The one minute steak salad was chargrilled and we'll done. Not rare how it should of been. When we complained they offered a small discount but the whole night was ruined and such a disappointment we had family travel from scotland. For the weekend and was really upset by the lack of service. Will NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN

    « holiday made easier »

nice room with a sea view.very helpful staff who could not have tried harder to make our stay a good one. when travelling with my wife who is disabled and in a wheelchair plus my parents who are both nearly 90 years old this is all greatly appreciated. although there are steps inside the hotel leading to the bar and to the restaurant they have ramps to cope with this which the staff deployed for you.we also hired two mobility scooters nearby and the hotel happily found a place to store them close to the restaurant and the exit onto the esplanade. we will certainly return to stay ther again.

« Not the worth the money! »

On arrival the hotel looks lovely all the bar area has been done out and it's spotless and very modern! But once we got into our room we were very disappointed, too small for two of us, our curtains didn't fit the window right and their was a very funny smell. The rooms were definitely not worth the money! After the family wedding in the function room I stood on a needle that was just sticking out of the carpet! The morning after the breakfast was a huge let down very unorganised and an hour wait for our breakfast. But a brilliant weekend overall just a shame about the venue.

« total dissapointment and poor value for price »

On arrival I was ignored by the lady on reception while she busied herself with a cash box .then she greeted me with "yes!" not the most welcoming greeting I would have expected. sleep was almost impossible as the very small room 114 was unbearably hot and opening the windows resulted in very loud pedestrian and traffic noise. the hotel in my opinion is in need of refurbishment stair carpets are worn and threadbare.

    « wedding weekend dissapointment »

on arrival we were told our rooms would not be ready till 3oclock (fair enough), but once we got to the rooms it looked like they had just changed the bedding, everything else needed cleaning, breakfast was fair just single item portions NO BEANS on the menu, down stairs in the bar you can't go wrong, good helpful staff, larger is £3.50 a pint but its soft drinks, wine etc were they sting you. we were there for a wedding in the hotel, the wedding was down stairs in the basement, plenty of room for the party but no venalation so very stuffy, didn't help that it was a very hot weekend, please note if you arrive on a friday there is a dj in the bar and if you have a sea view you can hear it right upto midnight and then you have everyone afterwards still going to what ever time, so you get little sleep, morning after the wedding we all had breakfast together, 36 of us they couldn't cope, it took an hour to serve all breakfast and 2 still waiting,on checking out we had to make several trips to the car and on the final trip our key card locked us out b4 time and this happened to everyone, overall fantastic wedding with great family and friends just wish the hotel was a lot better for the money they charge, i could go on to be honest experience we won't be repeating

    « Bad lunch »

Family trip to Lowestoft for lunch ruined by an uncooked adult cod fillet (twice!) and unfilleted children's cod. Lasagne was great, burger very nice but if you have lunch here and want to eat together, avoid the Cod!

« Nice communal areas, room ok if ya don't like sleep! »

Overall the hotel was good, the location was great, staff friendly and it was clean. All was good, until we went to bed, the curtains were too short, so not dark enough as on the street side of the hotel. Then a buzzing started, it went on and on, we turned up the TV But still we heard the buzzing. After a while sheer tiredness, we did sleep, only for about 4hrs. Breakfast was good, no complaint there! Staff on the front desk, did give us a discount when we complained, which in turn started others who'd heard it complain. So if you like sleep and want to stay here, you need to be on the sea side of the hotel. View definitely not great from our room either! Not just the street, but outside the kitchen, where the staff smoke and chat!

    « Bar »

Have used the Hatfield over a number of years, but it seems to go downhill every visit. The restaurant is average and a bit over priced. It is the bar that is really bad, apart from the view might as well go to Wetherspoons. Long wait to be served, find your own seat and carry the drinks back yourself, it is not what you expect in an Hotel. Also found tables dirty. There seems to be a lot of staff doing nothing. Given the poor service the drink prices are very expensive. It is a shame as it could be one of the best places in Lowestoft to stop for a meal and drink.

    « Lovely Seaside Stay »

My Husband and I have recently stayed at the Hatfield for a few nights. After reading some of the other reviews I was a bit worried what we'd arrive to!, however we had a lovely stay. Staff were attentive, helpful and friendly, allocated car park just across the road (also free - which in my experience is rare for a seaside hotel), our room was large & clean and the breakfast was good - nice to be sat on the terrace area overlooking the sea whist eating your full English! The hotel is situated right on the beach - ideal for seafront/sandy walks and in walking distance to the town centre. Only let-down was our bed, really wasn't the most comfortable and needs a good new mattress.

    « One night stay »

My wife and I stayed here whilst visiting friends in the area. We had a sea view room which was nice but the standards of the hotel seem to have slipped a little since I last stayed here. The cleanliness was basic with poor lighting and little attention to the little things which make a place special. In breakfast it was ok but everything seemed to be hard work. My view is that hotels purporting to be around the four star mark which expect their guests to prepare their own toast in 2016 need to step up a gear.

    « Incredibly poor »

I visited the Hatfield on a Friday evening (as a non resident) as their bar and restaurant is highly regarded locally. This was around 8pm and I wouldn't of said it was particularly busy but I did count at least eight staff members behind the bar so I presumed they were expecting a busy night. It took at least half an hour to just get served. Clearly the bar staff gave preferential treatment to some people as they acknowledged our wait but still went to others who arrived after us. Due to the sheer length of time waiting we double ordered our drinks to save another wait. The bartender said there would be a short wait on cocktails (I didn't think four drinks could take that long) but I said this was fine. 45 minutes later they still hadn't arrived so I went to complain. The staff got defensive and, in my opinion, very rude although conveniently said they were then bringing our drinks to us. These turned out to be not what we ordered but due to the experience we left them and went elsewhere. I will never return to this bar and I would advise others to consider the far better options available closeby.

    « Never again »

This is the worst hotel i have ever stayed in. I had asked for rooms on the ground floor or with a lift we were given rooms on the first floor with lift access but there were 2 lots of stairs to reach the twin room booked for my mother in law & her sister. There was no milk or towels in the room, there was bedding thrown in the bottom of the wardrobe so couldn't hang up clothes, the windows had been left open & as was very noisy outside i needed to shut them but i couldn't reach i found a fold up chair in the wardrobe (not sure why this was there) & managed to hook over window to pull it shut. Found water in the kettle. Breakfast was good but small portions.

    « Deceiving »

The hotel looks decent from the outside (especially if viewed from the seafront) and looks rather grand when you enter reception/bar/restaurant - however that's where it ends. I only stayed for the one night on business and would likely avoid an overnight stay if possible in future. The room was fairly small for a double and the furniture and decor was very tired and drab. There were marks on the furniture where hot cups had sat and in general it was just outdated and could do with a refurb. On checking in the receptionist couldn't have been less interested, breakfast waitress even worse and the 'local' sausages were terrible. That said, I returned a few weeks later for a couple of beers and Sunday carvery which was ok but even this wouldn't be enough to sway me to stay again unless desperate.

« One night stay for a FrankieVallie and For Seasons tribute Show »

We stayed here two years ago so felt confident to return again for the show and three course meal and therefore booked bed and breakfast with a seaview room. We were put into room 204 which was very small with only one window but, still had the most amazing views over the sea and beach. At £95 you are obviously paying for the view because the room is so dated, old fashioned, very basic, needs a complete refurbishment, you certainly don't get any wow factor when you enter the room just a feeling of disbelief at the standard. As a previous reviewer said the new outside patio area and dining and bar areas are very modern and obviously money has been spent there but, come on, now you are part of Best Western you need to update the bedrooms. However, we thoroughly enjoyed the show and meal, apparently it is the first time the hotel has done this and we would certainly go again but please, bring your bedrooms in line with the standard and décor of the public rooms. Excellent breakfast cooked when ordered and very friendly waitress who aimed to please.

« very disappointed with our room »

we had room 201 which was in the front of the hotel which was not what l ask for the restaurant was ok again but no carvery on which we would have like the menu has been cut down in size the staff are great .

The Hatfield is a fantastic hotel. Next to the beach, and minimal walking distance to the centre of town. I would recommend this hotel to all, as the environment and professionalism of all staff is second to none.

    « lovely position »

O.K. hotel we only stayed one night the restaurant meal was very good, didn't have breakfast, very nice room we has twin although the beds were awful we felt every spring, lovely position, but a very tire hotel, staff helpful, waiting staff very pleasant.

Very good price and very good food, service was good and would stay at this hotel again. It has nice outlook over the sea and is walking distance from shops. Handy parking to the hotel. Internet was not that good in any area is the only down side of the stay.

    « Retirement Party »

The staff are fantastic The carvery was way better than expected but not worth £13. The room(the library) was average. No real effort made unfortunately. Overall it's lovely to go to for a meal. Didn't stay in any rooms so I can't comment but it's a beautiful building.

    « Lovely bar that's completely wasted »

Being a local resident living close to the hotel, I was delighted when the bar and restaurant area of the hotel got a big refurbishment. Somewhere lovely to sit and enjoy the beautiful sea views by both day and night and enjoy a coffee or glass of wine. NOT! What a complete waste of a brilliant venue. By day you go in to the bar, wait and eternity to be served by miserable staff who serve you eventually then are rude and unfriendly. During the evening ( unless you visit on a Friday) after about 9pm you are constantly asked if you are a resident. I was fed up of being asked this each time I visited the bar so asked a manager what time they served alcohol to non residents. I was told midnight. Safe in this knowledge I visited last week on a Saturday evening and at 10.36pm was told' if you're not a resident then you can't be served'. It's now happened on 4 occasions and I will not visit again.

« Well situated but room for improvement. »

Hotel Hatfield, Lowestoft. The location of the hotel is very good, close to the town and with the beach just across the promenade. All the staff were friendly, polite and helpful but it was very apparent that the hotel was understaffed and therefore they were struggling to maintain the standards expected of the three-star hotel. The standard of housekeeping in all areas was poor: sticky tables that wobbled when trying to eat, tea cups that were not washed properly, floors that needed cleaning. The carpet in our bedroom looked as if was covered by a layer of dust or was faded by age/damp. The top shelf of our wardrobe was thick with dust and spare bedding was dumped in the bottom with no protective cover to keep it clean. Our radiators did not work and the room smelt damp. This was certainly not one of the 33 beautiful rooms as described on the brochure/website. Breakfast was good. I had previously read comments that the evening meals were not good but the ones we had were surprisingly very enjoyable and well presented, with the exception of the carvery. It is a pity that whilst the hotel has many attractive features, such as a good area for outside dining and a special lounge/bar area, it is let down by a lack of attention to the details already mentioned. One feels that the management/ownership of this hotel (Best Western) are not checking that this hotel is up to the standard that one expects of a Three Star Hotel.

« Great hotel for a short break. »

Had a 5-day break in a lovely, sea-view room. The staff were all friendly and very helpful. Food was very good so we ate in the hotel each evening. Bar and restaurant were both very comfortable with lovely sea-views. Car parking was adjacent. All told a great stay.

    « Lovely place... »

We only stayed for one night, but both agreed, we would definatly be going back. The staff were really friendly, & helpful & there was no rush to get out of the room in the morning, I needed an extra hour & the were fine with that. The room was perfect for the night, the bathroom is seperate from the bedroom, but in the same room, only for us to use.. My only complaint & im pushed to find one, was the bath could have done with re-enameling,.seeing as im a shower user, it didnt bother me or alter my opinion of the hotel in any way.. The bed was comfortable, there was tea & coffee available in our room... & breakfast was perfect & plentyful..& to top it off...its right on the beach... :)

    « Not very good »

Carvery is half Decent. But they only have it twice a week now. And the day we visited was not the day so we had to choose from the menu My lunch was ok but the mashed potatoe was think n tasted awful My friend had scampl and chips they were dark brown. Like the fat or something needed to be changed. The price was abit much too Their carvery never has any mashed potatoe. Maybe just as well Pot of tea is not far off £5 for two I believe its the gt western now. Really needs to upgrade the restaurant

    « Disappointed by food »

Room excellent, but let down by the food. Carvery had ran out of veg by 19:00. Breakfast ran out of black pudding, waitress running around trying to do bar, breakfast and everything else so had to ask for coffee 4 times. Staff very pleasant and eager to please. Just let down by the food.

The meal was saved by the lovely chips. The service at the point of pay was dreadful. Took time to work out bill without charging me for the previous customers meal. Then my three items which costed whole pounds came to a total of not whole pounds!

« Not bad and getting better »

I was almost dreading a night here based on some of the reviews, but overall it was pretty good. It's a strange mix of tired and really impressive, the restaurant and bar overlook the sea, and with an outdoor terrace where clearly money has been spent, this would be brilliant on a sunny warm day. Sadly my stay coincided with dark clouds and cold. But that aside dinner in the restaurant was perfectly fine, big to in the room, and I'm told that they are next to be upgraded. They need it that's for sure, but the bed was comfy, a big tv, just needed a comfy chair to sit in.. I'd stay again

    « WEEKEND STAY »

Good Value at winter offer rate, Sea front room excellent view, room OK although Queen size bed too small and mattress needed replacing. Breakfast limited choice - fresh fruit apples and oranges only. Service too casual, the dreaded 'there you go' and 'hiya guys' Would be very useful if hotel stocked maps of town as tourist office closed due to cuts.

« Popped in for lunch »

Nice looking place ,we decided to pop in for lunch ,went for fish and chips , and my friend had scampi and chips ,when it arrived the fish was upside down ,when I turned it over it was over cooked on the out side ,on cutting into it it smelt and was half raw ,showed staff and they took it away, after a while fish and chips came back ,another fish over cooked on outside, on cutting into this one it was all raw and smelt off ,we didn't complain again just left it .only things I can think of for fish to be like this, is it was cooked in over hot fat from frozen ,this as put me off ever eating again in the Hatfield .would give the food one star ,and hotel average ,staff are helpful and friendly ,but the cook needs to be trained or replaced .

    « OVERNIGHT STAY FOR A TREAT »

My partner and I stayed here recently, the hotel looks over the seafront with fantastic views, my only niggle was the carvery was sold out by 5pm and should have been served until 9pm and our breakfast was a protracted affair, but all in all, I liked it.

« Lovely hotel situated on the sea front »

My fiancée and I stayed at the Hatfield Hotel for two nights, over the Bank Holiday weekend. We arrived at the hotel around 3pm and were checked in very quickly by a friendly, informative receptionist. The room was lovely and well equipped, with a comfortable bed and ample storage space for both of us. The en-suite was very smart and cleaned to a high standard. We both slept reasonably well on both nights; however, the alarm clock in the room went off at 12am without any warning on the first night! Safe to say this woke us up in quite a frenzy! The breakfast at the hotel provides a reasonable variety of cereals, juice and pastries however, the service for hot drinks and cooked breakfasts was quite slow, on the first day. On the first morning of our stay, we both had full English breakfasts, we found the portions to be quite small and there were no beans on the menu, however, the quality of what we did have was good. We went to the bar on our second night, which has a lovely atmosphere and a wide range of drinks, at a reasonable price. The hotel is well positioned, right on the sea front and only a short walk from the town centre. The carpark is positioned opposite the hotel and although it appeared small, we didn't have any issues parking, even though it was a busy, Bank Holiday weekend.

« shame to see this hotel go down-hill »

Whils visiting Lowestoft this is the place we usually have a family meal with a good view and nice surroundings. In the past plenty of choice on the extensive menu, and one of the best carvery's - well not this time. Didn't get to sample the carvery as apparently the Hatfield's best asset is only available on a Sunday. The extensive menu has gone to be replaced by very limited offering, and when it did arrive the fish (cod) was hard to find amongst the batter and fish skin. At one point going to the bar to order drinks, with 5 people stood behind the bar (engaged in other activities), it took 10 minutes before one decided that they should see what the customer would like. Sadly unless it changes back to the original format will go to another hotel along the coast!

    2
    « Hatfield Noise »

Hotel is reasonable for the price and the sea views are great, but wont be staying again as the Hotel had booked a Disco and Wedding party (If the hotel had told me there would be some noise I would have booked else where.) on the nights I stayed with the effect that I never got much sleep and had to go down to the reception ( no telephone in the room ??) at 2.30am to complain about the occupants above my room starting another party, loud music, etc. Breakfast was just about manageable. I must say I expected a better service from an established hotel chain.

    « Overnight stay - wedding venue »

We have just returned from an overnight stay at this hotel. We attended a wedding which was held there and I must say we were pretty impressed. Rooms were very clean and not at all tired looking, we could see the sea from our room although we didn't have what was classed as a sea view. Food provided at the wedding breakfast was of high quality and we both enjoyed a full English breakfast the next morning which was nicely presented, with plenty of choice on the menu and plenty of helpful staff. There is a very nice decked area outside overlooking the sea where there are plenty of tables so when the weather is warmer it would be a nice area to sit and eat outside. The reception staff were more than helpful, all in all we had a pleasant stay, and wouldn't hesitate in staying there again.

    « Disappointed!! »

We have been frequent, well more like 'locals' to the hatfield hotel for many years. Our visit today for a usually very good, value for money family meal was, well lets say extremely underwhelming!! The hatfield has recently been taken over by a chain of restaurants and subsequently the menu has drastically changed as have the invteased prices.... my advice to anyone planning a visit, please try somewhere else untill they sort out getting that quality and value for money experience that they built a reputation on, back

    « A wonderful weekend »

Have just returned from a celebration weekend at the Hatfield with my family, with an age range of 3 years to senior. A comfortable hotel right on the sea front, with some sea facing rooms. As it was our celebration we were in the Elizabeth Suite, and the size and furnishing of the room enabled us to have a very comfortable sitting room for us all to gather. The food was plentiful and well cooked, though the evening meal was a little expensive. The staff were very helpful and accommodating and helped to make the weekend a success. Only problem incurred was on the Friday night, when there was a disco until 12 midnight and the family room was right over the bar.

    « What an improvement »

Well where do I start, I have been going to this hotel for a few years now and must say this was by far the best it has ever been. I am not sure if they have some new staff and managers but it has no question improved 3 fold. I came with friends on Wednesday for lunch and although really busy, got looked after by a lovely young girl at our table, and even got our food brought out by the manager, which was great to see. He even took time out to ask us if we enjoyed our meal which was a nice touch. They have a new menu by the looks of things which was very nice and had something for all of us. The food was excellent and really tasty, the chicken stroganoff was especially good. We will be back next week as usual and look forward to more of the same.

    2
    « good view,shame about the food »

Called in here for a fish and chip lunch but it was very disappointing. The chips and the fish batter were both soggy, and why was it served on a sheet of greaseproof paper masquerading as newspaper? Well we know that it is traditional to serve fish and chips in newspaper, but not in a bar where it means that there is nowhere on the plate for tomato ketchup to go. The table and its' surroundings had not been cleared from the previous occupants and the floor remained dirty whilst we were there, although a half-hearted attempt was made to pick up the wrapper from a biscuit. But the view of the North Sea is always good, and the coffee was ok too. Doubt we shall be back for the food though.

« Not a nice place to stay »

I Alway stay in a bestwestern hotel when I'm away on business. Visited this hotel and would not go back. So outdated smells very weird can't describe what the smell is as you go up to the bedrooms ??very dusty in room , had scum marks around sink in bathroom and to top it off stood on someone's toe nail so obviously not been hovered. The cup on the tray was stuck down hence you can see the brown ring from the picture . The skirting boards were filthy and you can see this on the towel . I would of been better off sleeping in my car

« Lunch on the terrace »

We came to Lowestoft for the first time yesterday, we stopped off for lunch at this beautiful hotel, we had fish and chips, which was top notch, at just £5.95 each , deliciously cooked, chips were freshly cooked and well presented, portions weren't huge but that suited us . we sat outside on terrace overlooking the sea, felt magical sitting there,. nice clean toilets too

« BIG improvements needed ASAP »

As a regular to the Hatfield Hotel, to drink and eat, where do you start... I'll focus on the main ones: The bar staff are rarely available in the main bar area and when they are they are bogged down making coffee! More staff are needed. Many a time I have had to go to reception to ask to be served. It's a poor customer experience with no interaction from the staff and rarely a smile or word said, other than to ask for your money. One time I asked a member of staff if they would serve me, only to be told "yeah I can do" LoL Glasses have dishwasher residue all over them... gone is the day where glasses are polished. All the wine glasses I've had have white smears on the bases. Admittedly the staff try to polish them when they serve you... but time would saved in serving if they were clean when put on the shelf - again.. a staff shortage issue perhaps? A suited "Manager" seems to talk the floor but rarely becomes hands-on to help out. If only he would floor walk and ask they customers how they feel. Only yesterday he nearly took one of the bar staff away when it was busy. The tea/coffee is really crippling the bar area... it needs more staff... it needs someone at the bar all the time... if it's quiet polish some glasses!

« Room 112. The worst hotel room I've every stayed in »

The fact that this room is used suggests this hotel does not care about it guests. Words will not describe how run down and poorly maintained it was. They are prepared to invest in the bar/restaurant area to give a false impression of what condition the rooms are in.

« Great time at the hatfield »

This review is based upon food, bar and staff and we was at a wedding here so didn't stay in a room. I must say the food was great in the 3 course wedding breakfast. Bar drinks were reasonably priced and the staff were brilliant. So helpful, friendly and assertive. The wedding breakfast plates were cleared away promptly and staff all knew exactly what they were doing. Very professional. Such a credit to the hotel. Well done

« Excellent Value for Money »

The Hatfield Hotel in Lowestoft is excellently placed for a quiet stay with easy access to the wonders of Southwold, Norwich, Great Yarmouth and the Norfolk Broads. Although not highly rated, the restaurant served good quality food and the decking area to the front of the hotel would be ideal for sunny days. As a Best Western member, our stay was excellent value and we would definitely consider a return soon.

« Good facilities and lovely bar overlooking the sea, »

Over all a pleasant stay due to location and sea views but clearly they need more staff, long wait at check in and to order food the next day at lunch. The ensuite to our room could have been a little cleaner.

    « GOOD SEASIDE HOTEL! »

This week I booked a room under the Best western hotels winter sales offer. As per the offer single room £32.50, double room £37.50. But it mentioned double rooms with sea view, therefore I booked a double room for myself. This price includes breakfast also, absolute bargain! Mainly I deserve to visit Lowestoft because it's the Britain's most easterly place, specially the Ness point about 5 minutes drive from the hotel (separate review). I drove from Blackpool, about 275 miles took almost 5 hours. Easily found the hotel - always before start my journey I viewed the area in the Google street view, it's very much helpful to find the place - private car park for the hotel situated across the road. For a 33 room hotel, car park is adequate. Parking free for the guests. On my arrival welcomed by friendly reception staff. It's a Best Western hotel, but I couldn't see any signs about BW, other than some leaflets left at the counter about BW rewards program. I am a diamond member of the BW rewards, I decided not to mention it, definitely couldn't get any benefits here! Lift available very next to the reception desk. My room number 204 with sea view, reasonably sized, large TV with all essential channels, comfortable double bed, working table, tea/coffee making facilities, everything fine. Bathroom with shower cubicle - it's smallest ever I have seen! - spotlessly clean. Only annoying thing is sound of the exhaust fan in the bathroom. Wifi easily connected and fast. I had my dinner at the hotel's Mortons restaurant. Staff friendly and helpful but extremely slow service! I ordered soup of the day - Minstrel soup - as starter £4.95, Sirloin steak medium grilled as main £16.95. Soup served in a fairly large bowl with freshly baked white bread, simply delicious. Sirloin steak served with house made chips, flat mushrooms and salad, also fine. Surprisingly 10% discount given for the guests! (normally 10% adding as service charges!) Breakfast served at the same venue, I preferred full English, as per the order only served. Not buffet breakfast like other hotels. Breakfast perfectly cooked. Specially we can sit well covered sea view area and enjoy our breakfast, it's fantastic! Free newspaper - I ordered Telegraph - and on request shaving kit etc available from the reception free of charge. Checkout done smoothly. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel very much, it's simply relaxing!

    « Adequate »

We booked for one night last week but when we arrived the reception looked a little shabby & the furniture needed polishing. We had our doubts when we were waiting to check in & the receptionist was speaking to someone on the telephone, asking if they could come in & help prepare the rooms for guests that were arriving that day. We had booked a double room with a sea view but when we got to our room (Room 103), it was a twin bedded room & although it had a sea view of sorts, there was a large expanse of flat roof to look out on before the sea was visible. When I complained, they moved us to another room & then decided that it was already booked for the night so the manager offered us our original room (said they would change it to a double) & would reduce our bill. As we had travelled down from North Yorkshire, we agreed to that. We discovered later that the chairs in the room were so uncomfortable you could not sit in them for any length of time & the bed was extremely hard. The only redeeming factor was the lovely breakfast served by a very pleasant waitress.

« Someone upset the chef »

Six family members dined at the Hatfield on Saturday 26th March, considering we pre booked the table was very cramped right on top of a large party so we had to ask to be moved. We were given a better table but it was a bit dark, we had elderly and disabled members with us. At 1.15pm they had run out of liver - one rather peeved husband!!! The meals we had were hot and fresh, the waitresses very attentive and cheerful. Desert was another matter, they had run out of creme brûlée, but anyway made our order. Half an hour later still no food, the waitress went to chase it. Ten minutes later we had lost the will to live and cancelled the order. When we asked for the bill we were offered complimentary tea/coffee for the inconvenience, the manager was apologetic and was going to speak to the chef. Yes what we had was good but it seems the chef is a law unto his own. We will go back because the food was nice but it leaves you feeling oh dear will the chef have another off day.

    « Hard working staff »

Stayed the night due to working in the area, on arrival staff were pleasant and quick to get check in done, they have a decent sized car park across the road. The bedrooms are a generous size with comfy beds , but the TV was very small, the ensuite was ok with reasonable pressure from the shower but the window could have done with a blind for privacy ! Without doubt the highlight of my stay was the breakfast ( with stunning views of the North Sea !) although small they have used decent quality sausage, bacon which made for a yummy breakfast !

« Two Night Business Stay »

The hotel is in a very nice position on the beach/sea front. Work has been done to upgrade the lobby, bar and restaurant areas. Although I have only stayed in one room, as it was the most expensive I would imagine that the rooms are due for a makeover. It is a short walk to the town centre, and it is nice to be able to stretch the legs. Probably would stay again.

    « Dirty and cramped »

The location of this hotel is ideal - right on the sandy South Beach. Unfortunately the room was very cramped (I had to walk sideways to get past the bottom of the bed to the bathroom) and in need or decoration (scuff marks on walls, peeling edges). The ensuite was dirty and the shower controls were crusted with limescale and a little rust.

« One night in lowestoft »

Booked a Saturday night stay over at the hatfield hotel after checking the reviews as always and so glad we did, got no complaints at all .Room very cosy with very comfy bed, really nice bar and restaurant area with great food and staff very friendly as other reviews say, had a nice chat to Hollie on checking out saying how we had a lovely stay.Breakfast very nice too, not much else to say really just that people who leave bad reviews on this hotel are just people who like to complain about something or were just very unlucky, would definitely come back again and again. « Fabulous views. »

We stayed here on Saturday night, and after the confusion of finding us on the booking system, we went to our allocated room. It was quite nice, modern, good sized tv, great shower. Bad points were the curtains were too short, letting too much light in for sleeping, and the plumbing from adjoining rooms was really noisy. The fire alarm going off in the middle of the night briefly, -also spoiled our sleep! The Restaurant/bar is fantastic, and the food and waitress service was good, along with those wonderful views. More confusion in the morning, as i pre-paid, but was asked to pay again! I enjoyed my night here, and would probably go back, just a few niggles!

    « Afternoon High Tea »

Went for a lovely afternoon tea here on March the 9th. We was reserved a table with a stunning view of the sea and beach. The sandwiches and cakes were to die for and was very pleased with the varied selections. Staff were attentive and very polite, free refills of coffe and tea. All in all a very nice afternoon.

« Best Western Hotel was excellent till Friday night! »

Excellent hotel until Friday night when the constant thud thud from the conservatory noise, which couldn't be classed as music!! Reverberated through the hotel. Although we asked for the sound to be turned down, and assured by the receptionist this would happen it grew louder. Person concerned with producing this just would not turn it down to an acceptable level. As the evening went on it seems the volume grew louder. The management seemed unable to control the D.J. Not a good sign for guests. The beds were very comfortable, excellent sea view, all staff were smiling and very pleasant and helpful to deal with. Food is very good here. As we were here for a funeral the location was good. Amenities unable to comment on as we did not have time to use them Our rating of the hotel was to be 5 but the Friday night turned all the good points into negative

« Great Food, Great Service »

We visited here last night for Dinner & We couldn't be more impressed with Holly. She was friendly, attentive and remembered us from Saturday Night. We'd booked for a meal but there was an events night & Holly dealt with us then too very professionally and made an annoying situation much better. The food was spot on, although my pet hate is food served on wooden platters :) I'll know for next time. We'll definitely go back soon. Thanks Holly xx

    « Nice meal »

We booked for 17 at short notice and they didn't flinch. We were seated all together with a view of the sea. Some of us had the carvery and others chose from the menu. All of the meals were delivered quickly and with a smile. Great service. Reasonably priced.
