Rooms were clean and spacious. It is just what you hope a hotel will be in a small town while traveling through or staying for a night or two.
This hotel was very expensive for the location. $366 for one night, very steep for the middle of nowhere. Plus there were items in the room that didn't my work properly.
Check-in was pleasant, but the clerk had her daughter in the lobby watching something on the computer a full volume. There are no elevators, and the motel has outdoor corridors so there's not much privacy or quiet. The beds were horrible! Even freshly made, you could see a huge sag in the mattresses. You could hear other rooms and all the plumbing when anyone took a shower in another room. The room was clean, and there were a couple of extra amenities like a Keurig. However, there was no room servicing., and we had to track down someone to get additional coffee pods. Breakfast was terrible! There was no coffee, and the eggs and potatoes were cold. There was no one working the breakfast room, so we couldn't find anyone to ask for coffee. They had some semi-stale donuts and blueberry muffins that seemed to be made with some type of synthetic "berries". I noticed another guest trying to find milk for her cereal, since the pitcher was empty. To add insult to injury, the room cost just shy of 200 bucks!!! Lousy room and way overpriced, but maybe that's what you get in a small town like John Day. NOT recommended!
Convenient near downtown area, within walking distance to amenities. Was able to park the motorcycle right outside the room and easily carry gear into room. Used the onsite laundry, machines are clean and fairly new. All good overall.
All the staff were great. The breakfast exceeded my expectations. The pool & hot tub were an extra bonus. I will back for sure.
Not happy with the quality and cleanliness of this place. Best Western has lowered its standards and raised its price. The room was not clean, the whole place is in need of an update, it's very dark in the rooms. We stay Holiday Inns/Best Westerns and this was the saddest place for a long time.
Just a quick overnight visit. Clean room; nice breakfast. Appeared to be ‘the' place for business travelers, based on the number of business vehicles in their lot. If in John Day again, would definitely stay here.
This hotel has everything you need for a good night sleep. The beds are comfortable, sheets crisp and a soft pillow. It is a little expensive for the area and somewhat out dated but very clean. I was glad to be on the top floor since the car headlights on the first floor might've woke me up. Great little restaurant a few doors down.
Overall, during my stay, all of the staff was very accommodating and helpful in any way they could! The room was clean and comfortable. The wifi was solid and the breakfast was a nice array of foods for both gluten free options and non-allergen options.
This was a great experience. Employees were friendly and helpful. Enjoy the included breakfast to start the day. No wait or exhorbitant price to deal with. On with the day quickly. After 3 nights, I was very impressed at how quiet it was for being on a main arterial highway through town. My Medical Assist dog was welcomed and treated just a well as her human. Overall great experience. g
Room and shower was disgusting, looked like it hadn't been cleaned in over a month, visible mildew among other things in the shower. Garbage on the floor. Sheets didn't look clean. Staff seemed unconcerned and didn't care.
Room was fine, beds were comfortable. What we saw the next morning was a 5 star poop show. Went over to the office for breakfast and they were out of oatmeal, then out of coffee. There were two young ladies behind the counter a brunette who had a bad cold who was answering all the phone calls, running to the kitchen to try and keep breakfast area stocked. And the red haired lady with black rim glasses who did absolutely nothing. She stood behind the counter offering no help then decided to go suck on her cancer stick for 45 minutes. I don't know who manages this location but it needs a shake up.
Up to BW standards. Very clean, quiet and modern room with functioning air conditioning. WiFi and plenty of plugs for phones and laptops. Plenty of parking with slots right in front of the room. (Important feature for motorcycle riders)
Our room was given away to another customer who arrived earlier. I asked for a bottom floor but was given a top floor with stairs and no elevator. My husband is disabled and walks with a cane. No resolution until the morning of checkout.
This was a surprise as we've stayed at many Best Western hotels over the years and this one needed help. While front desk was responsive and friendly the stained bedsheets and hot tub that was freezing were sadly a surprise from what we expect especially given cost versus best western hotels we stayed in on road trips across USA.
After reading reviews of other properties in the area that were less expensive, we decided to pay the difference and stay at the Best Western. I'm glad we did. The staff was excellent, the breakfast very well done and the room was very clean. I'm immune compromised and that's very important to me. The carpet was a bit frayed where it connected to the tile by the bathroom, and that was the only thing I saw that needed attention in the room. I looked at my white socks after walking in the room and they were clean without any dark marks, so the carpet is clean. The bedding and pillows were comfortable. There's a nice restaurant that also serves pizza just across the side street that was very good and bonus, they made their own in house lemonade. Tables and chairs outside room to hang out. There is an indoor pool and spa in its own building, but we didn't use. I did see some families using.
We stayed over the Memorial Day weekend. It was the standard Best Western breakfast with blueberry waffles and a well maintained eating area. Staff was friendly, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable, we managed to find a time to swim without kids- overall a great stay
Pleasant hotel. Room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was good. Pool was excellent. There is a pet fee of $20. My only complaint is the room rate was a bit excessive for a small town like John Day.
Nice place- I wasn't sure what to expect but upon my arrival the staff was very friendly- The parking lot was full but I was still able to find a spot as I was the last one to check in. My room was clean and even had a Keurig with lots of flavors of coffee to chose from. Before I checked out I had a moment to check out the indoor pool and spa. Was very nice and refreshing. Beds were very comfortable as well. highly recommend staying here- I know I will be every time I come to John Day.
No question best bang for your buck. Everytime I come through John Day Best Western is the first place I check for rooms. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. Wish there were more places like this one around
Chelsea at the front desk was terrific! Very friendly, confident, efficient, and communicative......told us everything we needed to know regarding dining within walking distance(at our request) on this very hot day and the breakfast process. Provided rags/towels and bucket for us to clean our motorcycle. Breakfast assortment was fantastic, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, pastries, bisquits/gravy, coffee/tea/ juices, make your own waffles, yogurt, hard boiled eggs. Presentation was excellent and everything was hot and well stocked!!!
A very nice place to stay! My family of 5 stayed in the 2 room suite (2 queens, 1 king, sofa). Everyone slept very comfortably. The rooms were spacious and the bathroom was extremely nice with a double sink and lots of room for multiple people to get ready at the same time. Staff was friendly and overall cleanliness was good.
My father was an evacuated from his home and checked in to the best western in John day. As he was an evacuee and did not have a reservation ( of course ) the best western told him he had to leave the following day. My dads caretakers pleaded with the hotel to say but their policy would not allow them to extend his stay. The bigger issue came when the hotel manager became really aggressive in her conversations against extending his stay and went to his room - before his 11 o'clock check out- propped open the door and invaded his space and privacy. My father was getting dialysis which he is very private about so this made him very uncomfortable. And the reality was my dad was already under a lot of stress so this behavior was beyond the pale. And by choosing to prop open the door to hassle my father, the manager allowed my fathers service dog to escape from the room!! She was missing for several hours and with the hotel being near a busy road - my father was beside himself with a new worry. The hotel's policy not empathy ruled the day - but until my fathers check out time of 11 am - he had the right to privacy and the right to keep his service dog safe. The Best Western coukd have done better
The location is perfect, very visible for late night driving. They also recognize disabled vets awesomely by giving a great discount. The room was nice and love having the doughnuts for breakfast. It was also great having a awesome ac unit to cool off in front of.
3 very positive findings here: 1) Better lighting than most places we've stayed. A real ceiling light for reading; great light around the mirror; able to see in all corners of the room. 2) Comfortable chairs that worked for both reading and desk/table work. 3) Better ability to control A/C than most places on this trip. Also, friendly staff. Bed ok, shower ok. A bit older hotel - you can tell by banged doorways. Carpet was clean but definitely aged. Nice new tile in bath/shower. Just enough towels. Still using single-use plastics for shampoo/conditioner.
The breakfast was plentiful with its variety and the staff was incredibly helpful. The water pressure in that shower is unrivaled with the fancy schmancy hotels we've stayed in. Such a welcome surprise!
Room was filthy. Hair on toilet and all over bathroom floor. Sink not cleaned at all. Fridge dirty. No towels in room. Smelled strongly like cigarette smoke. I would never recommend this place. Unfortunately, there's really nowhere out here to stay. I feel sick that I'm stuck sleeping here tonight.
The guest before us is a smoker and the room has very strong cigarette smoke smell and only improved some after repeat cleaning attempt. The management should not rent this room out for at least a few days to clear the smoke smell in the room!
It was comfortable and quiet, The room was clean and we felt the area outside to be quiet and peaceful. I like the exercise room and the breakfast was really nice and area around it was very clean. It was an all around good experience
If you are here to visit the national park, be aware it is on the eastern end of the area closer to the sheep rock unit. The painted hills unit/ visitor center is about an hour and a half west. That said it's a very clean and quiet hotel and the suite is very comfy and roomy for a family with two kids! The kam wah Chung national historic site is right down the street and is a must see. Separate room for mom and dad and the kids had their own beds. Family friendly pool with towels and a nice hot tub. The front desk was very responsive when one of the remotes wasn't working. I'm not sure if there are other options closer to Mitchell/ west side of the national park but if you're visiting this area, it's the place to stay!
Helpful, friendly staff and convenient location. Although old, with outdoor entrance, the room was clean, roomy and quiet. Typical BW breakfast which started at 7am rather than the usual 6am. We stayed for three nights and would stay there again.
Great accomodations, food and service. Best hotel in John Day. Good management. When I needed linen for the fold out couch, it came immediately. All services were prompt. The hotel was very clean and the breakfast was fresh and hot.
The hotel was extremely clean you can tell the take pride in how it looks. The staff was very helpful the beds were extremely comfortable location was great and the price was right. Definitely will stay there again
I stayed here during a road trip of Eastern Oregon. It was a great location between the Painted Hills and Hells Canyon Byway. The front desk clerk was very friendly & efficient. The first room I go smelled like cigarette smoke so she was apologetic and quickly found me another room. My room was clean and quiet with everything in working order.
This room had hair EVERYWHERE (even in the freezer). There were smashed bugs on the walls, dirt & grime, & either coffee or blood stains on the remote cover that was meant to convey cleanliness. Clogged sink. Overall very gross. And I've stayed at this hotel dozens of times in the past. Current management needs to be a lot more on top of this.
Very convenient, right in the middle of John Day, close to all downtown businesses. Very quiet and peaceful, rooms were very clean and well maintained. Staff was super friendly and helpful. My work while I was there was stressful and tiring, it was nice to come back to a peaceful and quiet place each night.
If your are to choose a hotel in John Day this would be your best option. Pool and Hot tub are in another building you have to access from outside. Exercise room is around out back. Had to see wash machine and dryer sitting out back- must have been replacing but not something guests should see. Limited staff after 6pm plenty at 7 am. Beds are comfortable, walk in shower no tub. Average experience.
It seems this is the better choice in a small town, some customers were very obvious on business trip with their utility trucks. Quiet, clean, flexible in letting you park closer to your room, breakfast decent, the evening front desk lady was very approachable, warm and helpful during check in and follow up questions
The night before our stay in Best Western in John Day, we were in a Motel 6. Night and Day difference. This is a beautiful hotel in a small town in the middle of Oregon. We had a suite that was able to accommodate six of us. It had a bedroom which was very nice for privacy, and two queen beds in the main room that the kids slept on. It was so clean and the decor was very nice. Breakfast was served in the lobby. Everyone found something that they liked. We even took advantage of the indoor pool. The best part- It was cheaper for us to stay here than in the Motel 6.
Very nice motel. Super clean and everything in good condition. The bed was soooo comfortable and the pillows were large and fluffy. The towels were thick and thirsty. We were late for breakfast, but was allowed to grab a few pastries and fruit to go. Ashley was on duty the afternoon we checked in and again next morning....... She was all about great customer service !! So helpful and very friendly !! Her employer should be proud to have her. Stay here.... You won't be disappointed.
This motel was oasis in the middle a hot dusty town. It was well run with hard working staff and clean air conditioned rooms! We were well cared cared for after we were checked in by Ashley who was happy to see us. She was very fast and accommodating. If we ever have to overnight in John Day again this is where we will stay.
Everyone there was very nice, the room was comfortable, it was nice and quiet, there was wifi (thank goodness) and they also have a terrific pool! The staff truly made it exceptional by recommending a great restaurant (and giving a 10% discount for it) and for being attentive and polite. After checkout, (I needed a hard copy for my expenses) the morning front desk lady told me to drive carefully due to knowing the road to Burns was very winding and with slides sometimes. Will stay at BW John Day Inn again, for sure! Thank you very much for a wonderful stay!
The night before I stayed here I had an atrocious experience at the Rodeway in Salem (I'm still skived about it - shudder) so the bar was quite low, but man o' man was I pleasantly surprised. The check in was awesome as the woman behind the counter was super helpful and friendly (in spite of me being a little out of it). When I got to my room, it was perfect. It was clean and modern. If I ever go through John Day again I will definitely stay here!
Hotel staff at the front desk and the cleaning staff were not wearing masks when I checked out at 11 am on Friday, May 7, though at check-in the desk clerk was wearing a mask. Beware that they may not take COVID precautions seriously here.
We stopped here for the night on our way from Salt Lake City to Eugene, Oregon. It was a charming little spot in the road, and we selected this Best Western because it looked the nicest of the places offered. We were very pleased with the cleanliness of the rooms, the amenities and the beds were comfortable with nice linens and good pillows. Would stay again and recommend spending the extra money if you can.
Best hotel in John Day. We came to see our grandchildren and spent several nights. Hotel management were very helpful and too great care to keep our stay safe and clean. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
This was a great place to stay during our recent trip to explore the John Day area. The staff were very nice and there's a great place to grab take-out or eat in not even a block away. The pool and hot tub were appealing and the rooms and hotel appearance impressed me.
This hotel is a great stay in an out of the way place. The rooms are spotless, and very clean. I have never used the pool or the jacuzzi but it looks good. Get into town before 7, everything closes around then and the amenities at the hotel for food and drink, don't work or at least are hard to get.
Very unhappy...looked forward to the breakfast..your so called grab and go breakfast was disgusting. .room was dirty.. parking lot dirty...other guests were loud....A complete 360 change from my previous stays at that location
Traveling from Seattle home I spent my first night on the road in John Day. I found the BW online and the price was good. I didn't even get in til midnight. My stay was short but good. The BW was clean and comfortable and may have recently been remodeled. Everything in my room worked properly and the shower was hot. I was impressed with the hotel for the price. Check-in was easy as well. I would definitely stay here again.
Overall, the staff was friendly and did their best to be helpful. It seemed like the receptionist was also the housekeeper and the maintenance staff. The room was generally clean. The windows could be double paned to reduce the noise outside. Breakfast was meh. Frozen Jimmy Dean sandwiches and frozen burritos for breakfast were kinda gross. The TV did not work in the midst of the World Series! Thank goodness the internet worked! Despite the mishaps, it was decent enough for this little town called John Day.
I would definitely stay here again. Finding a good hotel in a small town can be a challenge sometimes, but that wasn't a problem this time. The hotel is in a great location where you can walk to everything in town, including the biggest draw in John Day (Kam Wah Chung). The hotel has been nicely remodeled, not just sloppily refreshed. It wasn't perfect, though. The parts that matter most were clean, but not the things that need a good cleaning every week or month or so. The bathtub drain was full of hair and not draining properly, which led someone to take the drain plug off and expose it. The drain in the sink wasn't real clean, either. But, I am pretty picky about hotel cleanliness, and was still happy. They gave us two conditioners and no shampoo, which isn't a big deal, but it kind of just led me to believe that while someone cares about the hotel overall, the cleaning staff might be a bit rushed. Internet was fine, not great. The parking lot is very tight, but I imagine there would be plenty of street parking if it was too tight or too full.
One of the more tired Best Westerns I've stayed at. The room had that old motel room smell that was only helped by cranking the A/C. Given the circumstances with COVID, was not a bad place for one night, and without comparable options in the town.
Upon arrival there was nobody in the lobby at the desk. A woman was there before me trying to call the hotel and finally someone came from across the property. As the receptionist had no mask on, I waited outside for the first guest to check in. That took almost 15 minutes and meanwhile another party drove up. I finally went inside to check in and the receptionist had on no mask. This was extremely disconcerting and they seemed flippant about it. No other hotel was like that on our 7 day trip, Best Western better talk to their employees before people get sick.
we stayed at this hotel on our way to ID, very good location, front desk is good. room is clean, internet isn't bad either. and there is a water hose downstairs which you can clean your car a little bit from all the bugs on your windshield. i would stay again
We were welcomed very nice and professionally for our visit. The staff was friendly and accommodating...as expected! The room was very clean and sanitary. The bed was very comfortable. Got a great night's rest! Great experience and will stay there again!
This was a great trip. I would definitely stay here again. The town was a nice respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. Even though the COVID situation is happening right now this place was practicing all of the guidelines for keeping things safe and clean.
everything about my stay at this best western was great, recommended, I will stay at this location again. beds are always comfortable and have never had an issue with noisy guest. best hotel in John Day.
Have stayed at several Great Westerns on a recent thrip through the US Western side and they all have had really geat beds. The staff was very friendly and helpful with suggestions of what to see around John Day and the room was spacious and fairly typical of a mid-level hotel. No complaints.
This Hotel totally suprpassed my expectations. Honesty, my expectations for a very small town, older hotel, out in the middle of no where weren't too high. The service here was exceptional. The rooms are very large and newly updated. King bed plus a sofa, nice furniture, large TV, bigger then normal hotel fridge, microwave, and coffee, beautiful bathroom. I'd highly recommend this hotel. Nice indoor pool and hottub and a workout room.
Not sure why they canceled my rsvp but that ended up happening. I'm not happy with the outcome and will not be back here, ended up staying at another great place in town. Wish the manager at this place was better.
Incredibly disappointed with this visit. Greeted by a sullen night clerk who had no interest in checking me in. Got to my room to find the door ajar and unlocked. TV didn't work & clerk had no interest in fixing it Stated that he was waiting for me to call again before he did anything.
The room was very clean and comfortable... smelled clean too! Really comfortable beds. Loved that the down shops and restaurants were all within walking distance!! So many choices available for the complimentary breakfast including making your own fresh waffles.
No elevators. If you are on the second floor be prepared to haul your luggage up two flights of stairs. Might want to request first floor, I know I will if I stay here again. Room was a little dated, but very clean. Restaurant within walking distance, not great but adequate. Normal free breakfast.
The front desk staff at this BW in John Day, Oregon were so helpful to many of our conference attendees staying at the hotel. The front desk staff willingly wore the Oregon Museums Association button and our participants really appreciated it. Thank you BW John Day TEAM.
Original booking in BW Burns OR was resold just before our arrival at 8:25P. Nearest hotel was BW John Day OR, 1 1/2 hours away, and $75 more. It was OK, they had room last minute but abit high priced.
Came in about an hour early, room was not ready. They immediately had the room engineers take care of getting it ready!!! We went for a short ride and came back just in time for the sky to open up and downpour! Our room was a two bedroom suite, wow!! So check in, amazing Room super clean and well stocked. For such a small town it is a diamond in the rough!
The Best Western John Day Inn is the best place to stay. The staff is very friendly and the pool is nice too. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable. Very family friendly and easy to book for a quick vacation.
We stayed here one night with our pups on our way to the Oregon coast. The room was clean, quiet and decent sized, and the bed was *exceptionally* comfortable. There is a great park within walking distance that is perfect for walking your pups. Hotel breakfast was so-so, but most of them are just so-so, IMO. Hotel staff was very friendly. No issues with check in. If traveling with pets, be sure to call in advance to ensure you are put in a pet friendly room, as they are limited. Internet speed was not very fast, but it worked well enough for us to do what we needed to do.
I've stayed at the BW John Day Inn on two separate occasions and I will continue to stay here. Comfortable beds, quiet, updated rooms, and great staff make this a great place to stay! Breakfast in the AM is nice if you're not in the mood to go out somewhere.
We just pulled in to the Best Western in John Day with no reservation. The desk clerk was one of the nicest and most sincere people, that made me feel welcomed immediately. And having a 16 year old female with us, that are somewhat hard to please was delighted to hear she could have her own bed and close a door to have her space.....made this grandmother and her mother over the moon !!
Staff provided information about “Rewards “ program not previously known to me! Most appreciated. Best Western has locations anywhere we would probably travel. Great mid priced accommodation anywhere!
Came in early evening and was warmly greeted by Tammy at the front desk. The check in process went smoothly and Tammy offered some suggestions on local eateries and sites. She was very accommodating to our needs and made us feel welcomed and valued as customers. Thank you, Tammy!!! The hotel parking lot was clean and there are several tables and chairs outside allowing one to sit and enjoy the cool evening air. Rooms are spacious and clean. Bed was comfortable as was the little sofa in our room. The fridge had a separate freezer which came in handy for re-freezing ice packs. There are several restaurants and a grocery store within walking distance. Would definitely stay here again.
Always a pleasant stay, like the breakfast and comfortable beds. conveniently located in town so you walk to restaurants if you want. staff is always friendly and the property is always clean. Only down side parking can be a little challenging for bigger vehicles.
You wouldn't pick staying in John Day off a travel guide. But the mountains and the rivers are enough to enjoy.. Ashley at the hotel was amazing. Her customer service was great. She took care of what I needed with a great smile.
This is good motel, rooms are large and clean and the beds are comfortable. Location is very good as you can walk to the restaurants in town. Breakfast is included an was a good standard. If I was in the area again I would stay here.
We asked for a quiet room as I am a light sleeper and were immediately accommodated. While this Motel is not centrally located to the John Day Fossil bed units it is close enough. Our room was clean and nicely appointed. The folks running this place are low key and accommodating. rates are reasonable. Please do leave a breakfast tip. I did, no one else did. Really? A buck will break the bank?
Don't stay here! They hire employees that don't give a damn, just like the manager Deborah Hagopian. No follow up. Employees stink of cigarettes. This is not the first time this has happened. Your money and business would be appreciated at another hotel in town....I will not stay here again!
Upon arrival the staff was great. The room was standard, I liked the fact that the heat was on. The Hot tube was on the cooler side and as the weather was cold with snow showers having a hot tube that was a little warmer then 104 would have been nice. The only issue I encountered during the stay was the hash browns for breakfast were really rubbery after they were in the warmer for more then about a half hour.
We stayed here after a long day's drive from the Oregon Coast. The hotel is clean, comfortable and affordable. We appreciated its proximity to good restaurants (no driving necessary). We all slept well. Nothing fancy, but it's a great place to stop on a road trip.
When we got into our room the tv wasn't working. The staff was very quick to help us and explain how to use the remote. Staff gave good suggestions on snow recreation areas. They were friendly and made sure we had everything we needed.
Nice stay. Rooms were clean. Beds were comfortable. We were in a suite with a pull out and the mattres on the pull out was comfortable as well. Staff was friendly and helpful. We used the pool and ate breakfast. Breakfast was your typical hotel breakfast.
room was great compared with all other motels in john day oregon.this property is well located somewhat quiet and very comfortable.our down side - our vehicle and several other cars were keyed with a sharp instrument .with this damage it ruined a otherwise excellent trip.
Dirty bathroom. AC/heater was extremely noisy. Woke up every time it turned on. Night clerk came to the room and said his was louder at home and walked out. No offer for maintenance or a different room. Made for a long week.
Was day #2 of a 5 day motorcycle trip with friends. Was a bit of a trying day but was nice to have a place to sit outside and enjoy some beerz and some chat. The room was nice. We had an issue that they dealt with right away and discounted our room for us so all in all was a good sleep.
Compared to other hotels this one has enormous rooms. Everything was clean and felt new. The AC had a continuous fan setting which was very cool. The hotel is really close to Good restaurants. The staff was very friendly. I needed a first floor room and they were so accommodating.
This inn is a clean, pleasant place that is well run. We had a minor problem at check in and it was taken care of by maintenance guy right away. Desk people were very helpful in finding place to eat and things to see. Clearly one of the nicer places on the highway. It can easily we your base to see the fossil beds and other things to do in the area. Be sure to also visit Canyon City just a couple of miles from the inn.
All the essentials needed in a hotel. It was clean and quiet and the staff was friendly. It want fancy. Breakfast was better than most of the hotel breakfasts that we had in other hotels on our trip through Oregon.
SUper clean, updated and we'll run. Staff very attentive. Pool very clean. Rooms small but very nice. Generally wonderful. Breakfast on the better side of those continental buffet, serve yourself type. Location good for walking. Parking lot well planned for motorcycles. Get there early in the summer and walk a few steps to dinner after a swim. (Outpost down the street, very good) We had the 2 bedroom suite because they were sold out days in advance. 2 bedroom is spacious, 3 queen beds total and has 2 tvs. Micro, ref, coffee in room. Quiet location. We never get room like this, but we're desperate as John Day is where we need to be on bike trip.
We are loyal to the Best Western brand finding their hotels always clean, friendly, and comfortable. This one in John Day was no exception. And by far the best option in town. Also, check out the famous WAH chinese pharmacy state park & museum right next door, very worthwhile.
Needed a place to stay before day one of the Hells Canyon Motorcycle Rally. After a 671 mile ride this hotel was a sight for sore eyes. My pre-check in was set up and they were ready for me. The host at the desk gave me great advice on a pizza place that was within walking distance of the hotel ( half off night), Pizza was great and back to my room I went, Took a nice warm shower , all the amenities were there, water pressure great, and soft towels for drying off. The Tv was a little complicated but ok. Bed was good and slept through the night. Breakfast had all the stuff you want in the a.m. but some was over cooked for my taste. Of to the Rally.
We paid 130 for check in at the hotel, so avoid booking online. The bed was comfortable. Cons: most of the workers are on drugs. Very obvious. And the shower still had hairs in it, it wasn't cleaned. That's pretty gross. The food at the free breakfast was horrible! Worst I've ever had. Avoid the eggs, they look green and rotting and taste as much! The sausage, potatoes were also horrible! It's the only nice hotel though so it's your only option.
Just right...clean, quiet, comfortable...awesome little pet area, and great service. Enjoyable breakfast and fun, helpful staff...will always stay here when we come over. So pleased with the pet facilities...very important to us!
Good location, good breakfast. Very comfortable beds. Near the John Day Fossil Bed sites. Several good places to eat nearby. Motel staff called to make reservations at one local spot. Stayed there a second night at the end of our trip.
Seemed understaffed. Checkout was slow, had to wait for someone to come back to the desk for quite a while. I was not offered bonus points or a goodie bag even though I'm a diamond member. I also was not offered express checkout, which would have eliminated my first complaint .
Super clean, relatively quiet, decent breakfast and very affordable. Couldn't be happier with our stay. Tammy was very nice and got us into the perfect room. Definitely the best place in John Day to stay.
Amazingly SPOTLESS room. We had room 215, a king. Fridge was ON, keurig machine with two of regular coffee, decaf, and green tea. Microwave (low wattage and doesn't pop popcorn very well FYI). Rooms have been remodeled evidently, or it's a newer property. Hot tub and pool area is indoors and very CLEAN. Breakfast had sausage patties, biscuits and gravy (hubby said that was really good), and scrambled eggs (good!). There is the waffle machine along with pastries etc. Fridge has yogurt as well as fruit cups and boiled eggs (I love that). No other fruit though sitting out (could stand to make that available like apples and bananas), but they had oranges in the fridge. Coffee was good. Overall this place was a really nice place to stay in John Day. We stayed for business looking at property in the area and people were very friendly. Place was quiet. The cleanliness of this place cannot be overstated. I am a clean freak and it met my standards.
Rates were high at close to 200.00 a night. But hotel maintained well, beds comfortable, rooms clean, friendly and helpful staff. Accepted pet with a small fee. Our room was either exceptionally clean and/or had recently been updated. Was very nice. Cable TV had many channel, and WiFi worked well. They recommended a couple of places to eat within walking distance. (They were good choices). This hotel is an upgrade from others in town. If in town, we will be staying here again.
A good location to visit the John Day Fossil Beds. The room as you would expect from Best Western and the hotel is close to the restaurant and bar in John Day. We had breakfast included in our package which was although not fantastic it was ideal to set us up for a day exploring the Fossil Beds.
This has to rate as the worst ever hotel experience for the price. First, they had the reservation dates incorrect and we showed them the confirmation eMail showing the correct dates. Second, the room at check in was not properly clean, the bathroom sink did not drain an the shower tub stopper was out sitting on the side because the drain did not work properly;y. We called them and the repairman came and just removed the stopper (like the bath tub) and said that he did not have the parts to replace the broken stopper and we just have to live with it. Next day, when we returned to the room, the floor was not vacuumed and the room was not properly serviced. The price we were charged for this room was very high, even though it is the off season for travel there. We will not recommend anyone to stay there. The hotel across the street looked much more reasonably priced. came
This place has obviously been remodeled. When we pulled up we were a bit concerned. The office also has been remodeled and is bright and clean. Rooms are as well. Our room smelled heavily of cleaners. Only two bath towels were provided. The TV and Fridge were on the same circuit and whenever (every 5-10 minutes) the fridge turned on /off so did the TV. A pot light was loose from the ceiling. All issues were reported to the front desk and he took meticulous notes and pulled out a maintenance form to get the issues fixed. The room was comfortable. A firm bed. Coffee and tea for a keurig. The walls are thin so you hear plenty from outside. Most all traffic both foot and vehicular stopped by 10p. Overall not a bad place.
The hotel has great suite rooms and spacious. The look from outside may be misleading but it is great inside. Very clean and the staff exceeded our expectation. They offered to take our luggage up and it was easy to check in and out. The lady (sorry i forgot her name) was very helpful during checkin and as we came in a bit late, she offered yougurt and fruits/cofee etc. The rooms were extremely well kept
I had to stay at a different hotel nearby due to a business trip where I didn't have a choice on which hotel I stayed in. The internet was down in the other hotel, so I asked this hotel's front desk if I could use their lobby for some work. I stay at Best Westerns regularly and they allowed me to use the lobby. I was very impressed with how updated and nice the lobby and overall property is. Breakfast looked great and this hotel exceeded my expectations for what you would expect in a remote town of under 2000. Great job! I have family that travels through this area and will definitely recommend this hotel. If the lobby and service are this good, I imagine the rooms would be similar.
I've had occasion to stay at the John Day Best Western a couple of times, in fact, I got the same room as last time. Everything was as it should be which is the way it should be!! If I am ever back here I would stay here again.
The beds are so comfy. The pool is so great. This is the only place in John Day I'd ever want to stay. The only problem was that they didn't restock our towels, wash cloths, coffee supplies, water glasses etc. for our second night/third morning. Otherwise it was good.
This is a great Hotel, it is very clean, and they have very nice fixtures and hardware. But the most notable aspect of this hotel is their beds. They are super comfortable, with wonderful soft pillows. They are so fabulous, you will want to stay in bed all day!
A nice, clean, well maintained motel. Comfortable beds. Pleasant staff. A couple of nice restaurants within walking distance. We would definitely stay here again. This is the best place to stay when visiting the John Day Fossil Beds and the painted hills.
Great Best Western! Room smelled cleaned and was very clean. Great bed, sheets and pillows! Big bathroom and awesome shower! Large TV with a great picture! Nice couch to sit and visit on with desk to sit at and do work. Quiet room!
We are very grateful the front desk lady, Tammy, helped us get to,our destination safe and faster after the ordeal we went through in our road trip from AZ to WA due to bad wearher. Tammy went above and beyond letting us know at new hi by ways we can use. This not only helped us go safe and faster but alsonly be witness of gorgeous scenics and experience beautiful small town in the road.
Best Place in town, isn't saying much. There are two other hotels (?) that we saw. If you have to stay in the area, the BW would be the choice. We arrived about 10 minutes after check in time, only to be told that our room wasn't ready. The No Vacancy sign was on, we asked and they were full. Since our room wasn't ready, we decided to walk downtown to have a drink and dinner. When we got back to the room about 1 1/2 hours later, it was ready but the room cleaners must have used a whole bottle of room freshener, the place STUNK! We sat outside of the room for a good hour with the door open and the fan on full blast. The breakfast area was clean and the food was the standard that is available at most Best Westerns.
I love to stay at the motel in John Day. It is clean, easy access to down town, comfortable beds, easy parking, staff is super. The internet is fast enough, the amenities are great... I love that every time I stay I meet motorcycle people who use Best Western as a safe stopping place, as a rider myself I too use Best Western... I also use them for all my business travels.
The John Day Best Western is a nice hotel right on the highway in the center of town. It is close to dining, shopping, services and attractions. The facility is nicely kept with comfortable rooms. The staff is attentive and friendly, and very helpful with local directions and suggestions.
Slept well , good internet and TV listings - Had one thing upset my wife a bit , we had a lot of little black ants on just about everything we took in the room this morning - I suspect it was fall and they just wanted someplace to hide from winter - Breakfast was good and on time as well ..
An Ok motel. Average Comfortable, quiet, clean, and roomy. Breakfasts ok for a hotel. Restaurant breakfast is better. Good location. We were motorcyclist and they did take that into account by offering us cloths to remove morning dew. Fullest hotel in town so other people liked it.
The hotel room was very comfortable, quiet, clean and roomy (king bed with sofa). The breakfast was standard fare but good, and hotel staff were friendly and helpful. There was a glitch in making a reservation however, as the hotel did not receive our reservation, even though I received a confirmation via email. I am dealing with Best Western on why this happened. Overall, very satisfied and recommend.
Early-morning diesel truck woke me up and kept me awake for at least an hour from 3 to 430. This was hard because I had to get up to work at 6:30 AM and it was very difficult to get up and work. I was it was hard to work all day
This hotel is convenient if you are in the area. If you are traveling with a pet, there is a very small area of grass to walk the dog. The breakfast area has more seating than some hotels, which makes it comfortable. The food choice isn't exceptional, but what they have is adequate. The beds were comfortable and the handicap room has a large bathroom.
Staff was excellent, room clean but the bedding is worn out and pillowed. Isn't a clean COMFORTABLE night's sleep what you pay for? And why does this survey require 200+ characters(Minimum mandatory) when I volunteered to take it?
We stayed here for one night, as we visited the painted hills. This hotel is clean, staff were friendly, spacious and it's location is convenient. The hotel is in within a short walk to the restaurants and brewery and pub.
This hotel was recently remodelled, so rooms were very nice. Extensive breakfast included in price. Location is within walking distance of restaurants, shopping & museums. Will definitely stay there again.
Just decided to visit John Day .. never been there. Enjoyed every moment but didn't realize the expanse and travel time to the John Day National Monument (fossil beds/painted hills) .. John Day is in the middle of so much history but be prepared to travel. Best of all .. visited Farmer's Market just before leaving .. wow were these people knowledgeable, friendly and helpful in explaining what we had seen .. from grass lands to raising beef and baking goods unique to the area. The Best Western was VERY clean and service top notch. Often, maintenance for hotels in small towns is lacking .. but not here .. sink didn't drain and heater had that unused smell at end of summer. Staff got right on it and everything excellent upon return. Internet TV and cable .. was OK but signal kept dropping .. its a small town .. not sure what to expect .. but immediately came back .. breakfast service friendly but eggs were plain ... not much choice.
Great quick reprieve from a long road trip and escape from forest fire. They let us in early to sleep and we're very accommodating. I will certainly be returning to this hotel when even I'm in the area. Thank you all!
John Day was our first stop on a two week motorcycle trip to the Utah canyon lands. We arrived on a 100 degree day after 400+ miles of riding. Though the hotel was shorted staffed due to a family emergency we were greeted with a cheerful welcome and the manager did all she could to make sure we were taken care of. While we were waiting for our rooms to be available she gave us a place to change and store our gear. Cleaning towels were readily available for wiping down our bikes and we were allowed to park under cover near the hotel office. It is very apparent that this hotel caters to and appreciates its motorcycle riding guests. The hotel while not fancy is clean, comfortable and up to date. At the end of a long day of riding having restaurants in easy walking distance is a plus. Regardless of your mode of travel John Day and the Best Western are a great stop during your journey through this amazing part of Oregon!
Best hotel bed I've slept on in a long time. Small town friendliness can't be beat. Breakfast was great, good food. The hotel was very clean. The towns people were very friendly including a person driving by who loaned me an umbrella when I was out walking and got caught in a short rain storm. She said just to leave it at the hotel office and she would get it later. I highly recommend stopping in John Day and staying at the Best Western.
This is a very nice hotel with a professional and friendly staff. Rooms are well appointed and I especially enjoyed walking in to my room the first time and having the air conditioning on so it was very comfortable on an extremely hot day. The breakfast was excellent, much better quality than most other hotels.
The rooms were good, the bed was awesome, it's close to restaurants, the pool and jacuzzi were nice and clean. I stayed there for over a week and the best thing about this hotel are the two ladies that work in the evening. They were amazingly helpful and accommodating.
We came with 23 other family members to witness the total eclipse and totally enjoyed our 3 day stay here! The staff were so kind, friendly, and attentive. Breakfast was good and the rooms were very clean. We would happily stay here again!!!
Our room was very comfortable, the beds were soft, keruig single coffee maker, microwave and a large frig were of great for our stay. The hotel is close to many restaurants, so we were able to walk to eat out. The only complaint, is the hot tub was not hot, it was cold. The pool was great though, especially being inside since it was 103 degrees outside when we were there. We will for sure stay here again! I highly recommend making reservations though, the no vacancy sign was posted at 4 pm on the day we checked in at 3 pm. They fill up fast!
We booked this room 2 years ago when we knew the Eclipse was coming...drove down from WA state and had a wonderful experience. The manager, Deborah, had planned out breakfast tickets and other wonderful pre-planning tips to help with the crowd. Front desk staff member, Jason, was very helpful and breakfast helper Johnny was also great. THe entire visit was wonderful!!! Great job all.
This was a very nice hotel. It was not only clean but well appointed and modern decor. The room was very comfortable as were the beds. The bathroom was nice and clean. They provided nice shampoo and soap- not the low bargain stuff.
This hotel is the nicest property in this small town but also the most expensive. With few options it is rather expensive but their beds are comfortable and rooms are generally very clean. Great manager and friendly staff.
I thought the hotel and staff were great. The cost of the hotel was a lot higher than I expected for a dinky town in Oregon. But I guess when there are few options you can charge more. Overall I enjoyed my stay.
Stayed two nights upon returning from viewing the solar eclipse. Nice river view from room and privacy despite looking onto the marina walkway. Nicely landscaped grounds with fruit trees. Delicious fresh meals, breakfast included and coupon was provided for dinner discount. Nice outdoor pool. Most staff were cheerful and friendly. Especially Doug the manager who checked is in. My only complaints were the noise from the proximity to the highway which could be heard in the pool area and outside dining patio, also the noisy air conditioning unit in the room. I kept hitting my shin on the oversized bed platform.
Clean room, comfortable bed, decent breakfast, all within walking distance of several restaurants. John Day is a small, out-of-the-way community in the midst of incredible geological wonders. It's great to find reliably clean and comfortable lodging.
Good quality and service at a premium price. One of the few (only?) hotels in John Day that has a spa. However, if you make no use of it, there are hotels of similar quality with better prices available.
Pleasantly surprised with this hotel. They accommodate pets for a fee and got us a first floor room for my arthritic dog. Hotel was full but still so quiet. Close to city park. Was very happy to stay here and would recommend it fir road trips.
Clean, comfortable rooms. Great, friendly, helpful staff. Quiet rooms - we were there two nights and never heard any outside noise. Lovely indoor pool. Continental breakfast included had many choices and a lovely area to eat.
I stayed here for one night in June while in town for a business function. It was my first trip to Grant County, and while John Day itself wasn't exactly the shining star of Oregon as cities go, I've been to worse. The hotel itself was a nice find, not that there were a lot of options in town, but I've had good luck with Best Westerns generally, and was pleased when the boss let me book here. The location was very convenient, as it is on the main road through town, and I was able to walk to the nearby restaurants and store. There were also a couple of fast food joints within the same walking distance (less than two blocks). As for the room, I stayed in a King room on the second floor. I was pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of the room, and I was more than satisfied with the TV and in-room WIFI, which allowed me to put the finishing touches on my work presentation without making me suffer through shared internet speeds like I've experienced other places. Everything else in the room (fridge, microwave, iron, coffee maker, etc) seemed to be in perfect working order. Breakfast offerings were also surprisingly plentiful, and I left with a full tummy. Staff at check-in, check-out, and breakfast were pleasant and helpful. While John Day wasn't all that exciting, I enjoyed the drive in, and the views are really cool from the airport, which more or less looks over the entire city. If I have occasion to stay in the area again, I will gladly re-book at the Best Western. In a geographical area where they could get away with being sub-par due to lack of other options, they instead held to the Best Western brand and put out a good product. My only gripe is merely half-hearted in that I heard it was a little spendy for the location, but I didn't have to pay for it, so I'm not too torn up about it.
We arrived at 3:00pm but were told our room wasn't ready yet. Our room was ready about 30-45 minutes later. Room appeared to be clean until we started looking closely: half-eaten muffin in the desk drawer and funny markings on the ceiling. The breakfast was the usual food selection that's available at most Best Western's. Even though our room was next to the highway, thankfully we didn't hear much traffic noise. The swimming pool had too much chlorine, so much in fact that it was burning the eyes of some people in our group. The "hot" tub water temperature was lukewarm.
This was a one night stopover on our 3,000-mile road trip through the north west states as we needed somewhere close to the John Day Fossil Beds NM. The rooms are laid out motel-style so there's no lift but our queen room was bigger than average and had all of the usual amenities - tea/coffee making facilities, microwave, fridge, air-con and TV. The free wifi only needed a single sign in and there were plenty of recharge sockets. The en suite was also a good size although the bathtub was on the small side. There was a good selection of both hot and cold choices for the complimentary breakfast. Definitely worth considering if you're in the area.
I stayed at this hotel during my 2 days visit in John Day, Oregon. From outside this hotel looks like a Motel, however when you enter the room, you will find that this is a 4 stars hotel. The breakfast was basic American breakfast, with choice of breads, tea and coffee. It has an indoor swimming pool, which is great, especially when you go to John Day in chilly weather. Definitely this hotel is the best hotel in town.
Arrived early and could not check in as room wasn't ready. We expected this and went to the Fossil Beds National Monument . Upon our return at 3:45pm our room was still not ready and didn't get finished until 4:15. Check-in time was 3pm. It was 98 degrees out and would have been nice to relax in our room after a hot day of motorcycle riding and exploring. Hot tub was cold but did heat up later after attendant checked it.......
We arrived at the hotel at 3 on a hot hot day. Just glad to be checking in to an air conditioned room. Unfortunately our room wasn't ready even though check in is at 3. The clerk was quite stressed and seemed curt to start. She told us the room would be ready around 6. We walked around town and talked to others and found out that a festival had been going on up in the forest and it had been causing a lot or problems. The clerk told us that someone had not shown up for work to clean the rooms and that one of the rooms had been trashed by festival goers. So although we were frustrated, we did understand it was certainly out of her control and we understood her stressed attitude. After finally getting our room it was a huge surprise. The room was so well appointed. And very clean. The bathroom was large and spotless. Even though the cleaner was obviously running off her feet, she did a great job and did not skimp to get the job done. I wish I had written down her name as she deserves a big thank you from the hotel owners. It was a difficult situation in the small town and she came through for them. The breakfast the next day was very well done.
I had made a mistake on my reservation and we arrived a day earlier. The clerk made sure we were taken care of and got us into the room type I had requested. THANK YOU. The breakfast was fantastic. The kids had a wonderful time at the pool. Our room was clean and comfortable.
I don't know if all the rooms were as nice as our (single king), but everything was clean and in working order and very roomy. Great breakfast even at the last minute, the food was still fresh, hot and good selection. Very friendly staff.
Nice clean hotel in middle of Oregon. Room was nice and clean and had a mini fridge and microwave. My children loved the pool kept very nice. Breakfast was only so-so, mostly pre-made items and not refilled if something ran out, would have liked some more fresh fruit. There is no elevator to the second floor so if you have a hard time with stairs or carrying luggage up a fight of stairs be sure to call and let them know you need a first floor. Don't believe they offer any handicap rooms. There is also only two handicapped parking spaces. The parking lot is small so if your a late check-in you might have a hard time finding a space. One ice machine on the first floor so again if your on the second can you handle a trip down and back up for some ice. When we were leaving my son left his watch in the room as he thought we were coming back that night. We called the hotel within 2 hours of checking out. They said they didn't find it. We left our name and number expecting a call later after all the rooms were cleaned. The main reason I can't give a higher rating.
Very courteous and helpful staff. Continental breakfast was wonderful with a large selection. Had some difficulty understanding the television but the front desk was able to explain it to me and also offered to come to our room and walk us through it.
We were in central Oregon for sightseeing at the John Day Fossil Beds. This hotel was about a half hour drive from the Sheep Rock unit. The room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. Breakfast buffet was very good. I recommend it.
I came to visit my daughter and family. The air conditioner at their home just wasn't cutting it for me due to some medical issues I have, so we drove around to look for a motel vacancy in the late afternoon. This was during to peak of the "Rainbow Invasion" Luckily, at Best Western I found a room on the first floor. I was quoted a price and accepted the room, while explaining that I would live to bring my grandbabies in for a swim. Lisa (the desk clerk) was so friendly and accommodating. She even found a discount to use so it wasn't as costly as I had initially agreed to. She also assured me that it was fine to invite my grandbabies for a swim. We played in the water for almost 3 hours, and I finally returned to my comfy room. Then I couldn't figure out how to work the remote. This time Miss Lisa at the front desk made a house call to my room, got the TV set up and showed me how to use the remote, and wished me a good evening. I slept like a rock, got up the next morning and enjoyed the yummy breakfast buffet, and told the daytime desk person how great I thought their service was. (I can't remember his name, but he was a sweetheart too) Anyway, thanks Best Western, for helping to make a gramma's trip to visit her babies just that much better!
John Day is a good stop when crossing Oregon. The Suite room was just what we needed when traveling with extended family, everyone had privacy but we could still visit and communicate. The room was VERY clean and good quality. It was restful and worry free, which was exactly just what we needed after a long day driving in the car.
We stayed two nights here, to visit family. The room was very clean and they had the A/C on when we arrived. Tina was there when we check very nice and polite and helpful. On the morning we were checking out to star a very long road trip my daughter ended up being very sick to her stomach and vomiting. We did not have anything for here in case she puked more so Jason and Ashley went above and beyond and found a little garbage can, liners and a few little towels for her. That to me is true customer service. Thank a million you two!!!!
You will be made to feel very welcome here by the friendly and knowledgeable staff. All services are excellent and the rooms are immaculate. The breakfast selection is excellent. This is probably the nicest place to stay in John Day.
This place was very clean and comfortable. The Inn is quiet at night and a nice small town for a stop along the way. We were unable to access the TV to watch the Warriors, and found a place, Outpost Pizza, Pub and grill for dinner. The pub had TV on and changed the channel so,we could watch our team... In the morning the inn provided a room with breakfast.
The room was comfortable and clean. The staff service was excellent. Breakfast had a good selection of food. The only compliant was the lack of parking near our room. Fact is the parking for this quality hotel was poor.
About what you'd expect but do wish we could have had a ground floor room. Dragging stuff up the steep stairs was a bit hard. Refrigerator worked nicely, everything clean, relatively quiet, parking close. Ate adequate dinner nearby in small cafe, within easy walking distance. Breakfast of "cooked" eggs (reconstituted powdered -- yuck) and sausage didn't work for me but toast OK -- got me on the road.
The hotel is clean, modern and comfortable. It is walking distance from several places to have lunch and dinner as well as the Kam Wah Chung Interpretive Center and Museum. The breakfast is included and is very nice. The free wifi worked well. Our room had a mini-fridge and microwave as well as coffee.
Caught in a downpour around John Day my friend and I pulled into this hotel and were happy to find a room without reservation. The price was a bit expensive for a little town but the property was very clean and it looked like it was either very new or at least recently remodeled. Our room, the bedding and the bathroom were very clean and comfortable. The bath towels were unusually big and thick/plush; very luxurious! The complimentary breakfast was good (scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausage, waffles, etc. However, there were surprisingly no fresh fruit or fruit yogurt that I have kind of gotten used to when travelling. Overall my impression of this motel was very positive. My only major complaint has to do with this loud metallic sounding noise coming from the walls right around 5 am and continuing off and on till we left. The only thing I can think of is a possible hot water pipe noise due to people taking showers early in the morning. I could not sleep past 5 am, which is a shame as the number one reason most people check into a motel is for a good night sleep!
Overnight stay on our visit to Painted Hills so that we could rest and recuperate from our long drive and head out early the next morning. Tried to sleep but after an hour of tapping on the wall near our headboard, phoned the front desk. They said they talked to the people in the room next to us but was told they were not making the tapping noise. Hotel person said it was the plumbing and would be looked into next day. After the phone call, quiet for 15 minutes, then noise started up again. Recorded noise on phone and played it back for front desk. We were moved to another room on the 2nd floor. All was well until we tried to use the toilet...it wouldn't flush. Call to front desk. Woman came up with the plunger and worked really hard to unplug it. After approx. 15 min, it seemed to be draining so she left. However, when we tried to use the bathroom again, same issue so we just told ourselves if we needed to go, we'd go to the lobby bathroom. Not a room that I would pay $160+ for. ;(
After a long day of traveling,it was nice to find the right Inn to fit our needs. We have stayed at BW's before, and this motel was like the others:friendly, affordable, clean and quiet. The room was recently refurbished, comfortable bed, very nice bathroom, efficient and quiet air conditioner(a big plus for a tired traveler) and a great breakfast in the morning. Thanks to Tammy for being professional and hospitable to my wife and I.Another reason we like to stay at Best Western Inns!
already made one look at it best western john day or im really tired of having to repeat since it was accepted by bw john day ==day with no responce well im not going to write it again just want to know what will be done or not
Stayed overnight in John Day on our way to Hell's Canyon. Could easily walk to Kam Wah Chung Museum and several restaurants. Bed was extremely comfortable, room decor was recently updated in a restful color scheme and everything was clean.
Easy to get to, centrally located, clean, nice & quiet. Nothing super fancy but for a nights stay it's just perfect! Friendly staff, Nice indoor swimming pool, only down side on the pool is that it is up by the check in desk and a long ways from rooms if you are at the far end.
Tired after a long drive, the female employee went out of her way to be helpful, unloading my luggage for me. I am partially handicapped. Very nice of her. She also provided directions to a nearby cemetery where I wanted to pay respects to my ancestors who lived there centuries ago.
We stayed the night in a suite room on our way through town. Everything was clean and easy to access. Kids loved that they had their own beds. The pool was great, again, kids loved it and were able to work off some steam. The breakfast was terrific, a very nice, updated room with lots of options and just enough seating. Our only issue was that the bed in the suite room was not comfortable, sloping into the middle. But I would still recommend.
best motel in the area with the best, most helpful staff. The area is well worth the extra time needed to travel if one is a snowbird going through the area. You will appreciate the drive going north/south through the park and when in John Day, your stay at the Best Western will not disappoint.
Nice clean quiet motel , Ashley was very helpful and welcoming. Everything needed in the room for a comfortable night. Easy access to dinner spots and a free breakfast. I will plan on returning here on my next rock hunting trip.
The hotel staff was accommodating, and the complimentary breakfast was definitely on the five star side (as such breakfasts go - keep that in mind). The rooms are comfortable, though at the far end of the building as I was, the wifi seemed just a touch slow (then again, it could be John Day and have nothing to do with the hotel).
Our daughter bought my husband and I a pug puppy for Christmas so she and I drove to John Day on February 2nd to pick the little guy up. We drove at night in snow and freezing rain but made it safely to John Day. We did not have reservations but the Best Western had vacancies. The office and continental breakfast area was clean and bright. We had a room with two queen beds that were comfortable. The breakfast had nice variety; donuts, bagels, cereal, yogurt, fruit, juice, eggs, biscuits, gravy, hash browns and oatmeal. Every staff person we encountered was friendly, helpful and professional. I would stay there again if I ever have a need to go back to John Day.
The hotel was great. Clean & comfortable. The staff was very kind & helpful. The hotel has done some improvements since we visited John Day and they were very nice. Hopefully we will be able to stay there again on our next visit.
Staff was amazing and very accommodating. Keurigs in the rooms! Staff always left extra pods for me. Breakfast was good and always had an assortment of items. Cute little Best Western with indoor pool that felt like a sauna; which was good compared to outside.
It was clean and friendly atmosphere. Staff was helpful. My motherr needs a accessible room and it fit the bill. The shower was perfect for her. The beds comfortable and breakfast is included. John Day is an interesting area with many places to explore.
Everything was what you would expect from Best Western and it was nice to know there was a place in John Day that we could depend on having a clean, comfortable, up to date room. The breakfast buffet was good and plenty but missing sausage or bacon. They did have the good ole cowboy biscuits and gravy, but that's not my thing.
Average Best Western with an above average price. The room was clean and staff was friendly, always a smile from everyone I dealt with. The breakfast wasn't bad, typical waffles, eggs, etc. The only negatives were the air conditioner was noisy and the wifi very spotty. Thought it was over-priced for the area.
Fine overnight facility but the breakfast bar was barely OK. The bed and the room was very comfortable. It was clean. It was convenient. As stated the breakfast bar was very poor.. Best Place to stay in John Day Oregon
This motel has been nicely modernised and we found the staff very helpful. The room was a good sized, very clean and the shower was big enough to lie down in! This is probably because the shower replaced a bath when the motel was modernised. The complimentary breakfast was very good including egg, sausage patties and fresh waffles.
Good value for the location and great place to stay! Love the super soft beds, comfy pillows and the couch. WiFi reception was poor but that could have been my tablet too. Helpful staff, clean rooms, pet friendly, good amenities.
We pulled into John Day without a reservation, and didn't know what to expect. The motel had just completed a remodeling. It was very clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast was better than average. We definitely recommend it.
My husband says: My friend and I had ridden many miles before we got to this motel. When we went to the office, the woman working there had a dismissive attitude and said the room would be $265. for a night. When we paid she told us the room wouldn't be ready for an hour!!! This was at 5:30 at night. One older gentleman seemed to be doing the cleaning and made the breakfast the following day!! So, the room was clean, the breakfast was fine. Just the initial experience with the rude desk attendant, the wait and the high price needed to be reported.
Average motel, clean, safe, being upgraded and cleaned up. Good parking. Most of the staff is friendly. Continental Breakfast is adequate and tasted good. Decent selection of food. Right off the Hwy for easy access. One member of the staff working on desk has a care less attitude about getting you checked in. Ask for Manager or another employee if this man dusts you off.
Comfortable room. Friendly and accommodating staff. Excellent breakfast. In room coffee is Keurig! Walking distance to restaurants. One block from Kan Wah Chung State Heritage Site and close to Condon Paleontology Center and Painted Hills.
Tammy made check in...even though very late....very welcoming Nice remodel on the rooms and lobby. Stay here, you will enjoy your stay. Great restaurants for a small town with several to choose from. You may even be able to watch deer from your room...they visit the area at night.
I'm sure they could have put me in a less expensive room, but at no point was an alternative offered. This will definitely affect my decision to stay there again. I have nothing else to say despite your silly prompts.
Total disappointment: Over-priced compared to other hotel in 75 mile radius. Did not deliever all they advertised on the buffet breakfast. No fresh fruit, no meat. Not even lids for their travel cups. Paid $154. for one night in a rural, scenic area of Eastern Oregon. Recommend going onto either Bend, Redmond, Prineville or up to Pendleton, Or.
The rooms are recently renovated with very nice decor and quality items. The bed we had in our Jr King Suite was to die for! We slept the best night ever in all of our hotel stays - period. The staff was very professional and personable, breakfast was good as was internet service. WOuld highly recommend this hotel to anyone going anywhere near the John Day area!! The only downside is limited parking and what's there is mostly for smaller cars, not pickups.
Friendly staff, clean and updated. Has restaurants and stores within walking distance and nice small town. Breakfast was good with a nice variety. Stayed here while visiting the Fossil Beds but was actually farther than we thought. Location worked out, since we were heading to the Steen Mountains after. Would stay here again.
Recently renovated hotel. Room is a good size with a comfortable bed. A little bit of road noise, but can be cancelled out by the efficient AC. Relatively large indoor pool and guest laundry. Simple breakfast but with a good range of basic food.
Check-in was much more pleasant than most. Morning crew was also nicer than many. Just a calm and relaxing overall experience. So many hotels are making life more difficult than it needs to be. I travel by motorcycle, and they had a place and supplies to wash the bugs off the windshield as many Best Westerns do.
Nice motel. could use an elevator for us folks with trouble climbing stairs. Ran out of breakfast one morning but quickly made more. Room was clean and comfortable and staff was very friendly. Would stay here again but request a ground floor room.
Well appointed, comfortable place to stay in John Day. I'd booked way ahead for our summer trip and paid only $117 per night for a king, very comfortable bed, a large swimming pool hot tub area and huge all inclusive breakfast. I'd definitely stay here again.
Very accommodating and courteous staff, excellent beds and pillows, nice shower, great pool! Convenient location, clean, easy access, close to a great restaurant as well. Wonderful place to stay! We will definitely stay here again and recommend it to all!
Spotless room. Comfy beds. Keurig in the room with different choices. and happy employees. The restaurants recommended were all within walking distance, I'm glad to say. The pool & spa were equally clean. Thank you.
We routinely stay at this property in John Day when in town. The improvements to the property are wonderful! The bed was very comfortable for both of us, and the amenities were nice. There was a problem with the BW.com reservation page. BW does NOT show this as a Best Western property, but it is. Don't let the lack of reference deter you. You won't find a better place to stay in John Day ... at least not in a franchised lodging.
We had a very nice stop over in John Day. We had stayed at this facility three years ago and it was completely adequate other than the breakfast area was really tiny. This year the whole facility has been remodeled. Rooms, lobby, breakfast area and exterior have all been updated. They are still working on a couple of areas. Bed was exceptionally comfortable. Highly recommend this property when you are passing through.
After a long day checking out the Painted Hills, this was a nice hotel to rest our tired and hot feet. The room and bathroom was clean. Beds were comfy. Nice TV, wifi, indoor pool (didn't feel too warm), and nice hot/cold breakfast. The town is small. The hotel is a short walk to a few places to eat (few local places and a Subway and Dairy Queen). Would definitely recommend this hotel! There are many small town hotels around however this seems to the most contemporary. Boom sooner than later!
I have stayed here many times. This time, the rooms have been remodeled with new refrigerator and microwave. Updated bathrooms. Good breakfast.. not great. Easy walk to dinner with optional restaurants. I do wish they had just regular Pepsi in the vending machine... all they had was diet, cherry diet and regular cherry Pepsi...
We usually stay in a Hampton Inn or some other hotel where you have to haul your luggage up an elevator, but it was so nice to back up the van right in front of our first floor door to unload. With 4 young grandsons on a 12 day driving trip, this was a welcome convenience. The pool house was outstanding--spacious, clean with plenty of ventilation. The staff gave us lots of pool towels and every staff member we encountered was cordial and helpful. Breakfast was ample and well arranged. It was a good place to stay and I would recommend it to anyone passing through John Day.
Stayed in a recently remodeled room. Bed was great. Room was clean and quiet. Breakfast was good and there were a variety of food items to choose from. This is only my 2nd time to drive through John Day and this is the absolute best option. Will stay here again.
This was a great place to stay in route east. The room looked like it was recently remodeled. Beds were comfortable, AC worked well. Kids loved the pool but said it was cold. Breakfast in the morning was plentiful. Some fresh fruit or yogurt would have been a nice addition but none of us left hungry. It's also perfect walking distance to restaurants.
This property was newly renovated. The staff were friendly and helpful It can be difficult to get rooms from June-August in John Day. There are few choices in John Day, but after frequenting what is available, this is my number one choice. Other hotels will charge same price and may not offer breakfast.
We were here for a family visit. The pool is great . Room is clean!! Breakfast had a good variety . Also staff was all so helpful, kind , and happy. It is really close to downtown so there are restaurants within walking distance. There is not a lot of large parking spots.
Typical Best Western at best. Rather dark room. Nothing special but the price which was above market price for this motel. That being said the staff was courteous. A short walk to a OK Pub with good food. Look for a better choice in John Day.
Stayed two nights over the Memorial Day weekend. Great experience. Clean room. I think it was recently remodelled. Comfortable and quiet. John Day was my base for two days of motorcycling and the Best Western was a great fit. Easy to access nearby restaurants like the Outpost and local coffee shop. Will return.
We have stayed at this motel before and appreciate the upgrading they have done and are doing. We could see a new key system that does not require inserting a key, just placing the key on top of the lock's screen. That is cool. We love not having a duvet on the bed but instead having a blanket. The heating and cooling system worked fine. There are restaurants within walking distance for both sit down and fast food types of meals.
Nice hotel, however we got a room that had not been remodeled. They were in process of remodeling, and the new ones looked great. Great location close to everything. Good restaurant close by. Nice pool area.
Rooms were nicely updated. There was a spa and pool that looked nice that we did not use. You can walk to several restaurants and the Kam Wah Chung Interpretive Center. This is a nice jumping off place to go see the Painted Hills and the rest of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument.
Excellent in all areas. Will be staying again in a couple of months. There isn't anything else to say but excellent. I would suggest everyone to stay at this Best Western. We love the Best Western motels and their affiations
I felt safe since I was staying along. Always someone at the front desk which was in sight of the parking area and the traffic in & out of the area. The rooms are very quiet with heavy curtains to block out the light . The beds were comfortable and the room clean.
A really great place to stay, within walking distance of interesting historical sites and several noteworthy restaurants. Several short blocks away is a neat brewery restaurant - the 1188 Brewing Company, this place is worth the effort to stop there it is very good.
Enjoyed stay only complaint coffee pot & hairdryer didn't work. It was my first trip to John Day if I come back I would definitely pick this hotel and location again. There was a very good restaurant called the Outpost within walking distance.
The TV and remote didn't work in the spare room. Ashley came up from the front desk and spent some time working with it. It was an unusual problem so she made some calls to get more information. She stuck with it and got it working. We really appreciate the effort she made to ensure we had an operating television that night. We also appreciate the extra personal touches that the staff made when servicing our room. We really got a laugh when we came in and found my daughters stuffed monkey laying back on the pillow holding an unpeeled banana my daughter had left on the bed.
This hotel has all the amenities needed for a nice, clean stay in a small town with restaurants and shopping just a block away. The service from the front desk was wonderful. I even got an in room phone call about an hour into my stay ensuring that everything was in good condition.
Best Western had just remodeled and everything was very "homey", the staff were interested in our comfort and visit and went out of their way to see that we were enjoying our stay. Our room was very clean, updated and relaxing. Breakfast was the typical sausage, eggs, country gravy, waffles, sweet rolls, cereal, fruits and yogurt, but what impressed us was how clean the whole area was and a staff member came through every few minutes to check on us and to wipe down the dining area. Great Stay, We Will Be Back.
I stayed in John Day for two nights on a business trip. The Best Western John Day Inn is, from what I can tell, the best hotel in town. The building has been recently remodeled and is very conveniently located in the center of town. The rooms are very comfortable and clean with serviceable WiFi access. The fitness center is small but very clean with up-to-date equipment, and the breakfast is decent.
We had a pet-friendly room on the ground floor. It will be much better when the renovation of the lobby is complete. Check-in is currently in one of the guest rooms, with baby items and kids stuff all over the place, breakfast is served in the adjacent guest room. Having said that, the breakfast was EXCELLENT, the room was clean and the King bed was very comfortable. There are not many hotels in John Day and this was a good motel in its 2 star classification. The staff was okay; matter-of-fact, polite but not friendly. We had no complaints. Having said that, we found this Best Western to be over-priced for a 2-star property.
The room was nice and had everything we needed. I thought the price was a little high for such a small town. We were in town for a high school basketball game that didn't get over until after 9PM and left early the next morning to head to the next basketball game a town away.
I enjoyed my sleep at this Best Western. The bed was comfortable and clean. It smelled fresh and new. Use of microwave and refrigerator a bonus. Walking distance to good restaurants. Left Kindle in room, it was turned in and office promptly called to informed me. Great service.
Comfortable beds, clean room, and DirecTV. Currently undergoing remodel so breakfast room was way too small and swimming pool was closed. Kuerig coffee maker was nice too. Shower water was nice and hot.
Hotel has been renovated since we last stayed there. Huge improvement! I appreciated having a window that opened. Comfortable bed. Decent shower. Breakfast included scrambled eggs, sausage, and biscuits and gravy—way better than I expected.
Was nice to stay at for the time. The pool and hot tube are nice. The lobby WILL be great when they get done. Staff and hotel have made the arrangement of things in the temporary construction status work well.
Made reservation several months in advance. Arrived there to find out the motel was under major remodeling including having parking lot repaved. They started work early banging hammers and such and using asphalt and cement cutters and grinders all day. It was too noisy in the daytime to relax or even watch TV. Ending up having to stay away from the hotel and just drive around and find things to do as apposed to going back to a noisy hotel that smelled like fresh asphalt. I made my reservations months in advance. Best Western should have informed me when I made the reservations that they would be doing remodeling during that time and at the least cut me a break on the price. I ended up leaving this motel and moving down the street to another motel due to the loud noise, smell and just general mess the hotel was in.
Please, in the future, do not display pictures on the web site of a complete remodel until it is done.....i've never been so disappointed after a long day of travel in a best western hotel. The place was a mess, the staff, of one, was extremely rude, and the room was certainly not up to par.
My husband had a hunting accident and ended up in the ER near the Best Western in John Day and I was home, the staff was great in my time of need, and we are very thankful. I would recommend Best Western John Day Inn, John Day OR anytime to anyone. God bless
Our room was well appointed and the Keurig coffeemaker was a nice touch, but those were the only two good points of our stay. First of all, it was nearly impossible to squeeze by the construction equipment at the entrance. Our room was on the end which should have made it less noisy, but we got tremendous noise from both the road and the upstairs occupants. The sheets were badly pilled and the bathtub had large chips in it. The air conditioning unit was very loud. We found cobwebs in both the bedroom and the bathroom. For it being the most expensive Best Western we have ever stayed in, I thought we certainly should have gotten more for our money.
Well, this one, on this occasion is a big miss. I will just break t down to pros and cons and let you decide for yourself. Pros: very clean rooms. Well appointed with all the needs for a comfortable stay. Cons: Couch is vinyl and uncomfortable. the Bed is not much better. The coffee maker throws grounds all over the counter while making a cup of keurig coffee. Parking is extremely tight. Anything bigger than a roller skate and parking becomes a challenge. And the big one. the construction. A remodel is going on and the construction equipment has taken over the parking lot. I am sure things will get better when the remodel is done.
ok, again, all of my reviews are for a specific time of year and for a specific type of room. my wife and i travel off season or shoulder season. we book a good room versus a cheap room. we like quiet and a little bit of space. so, the john day best western, room 208 is perfect for what we like it's possible that it is an extra 25 dollars over the normal rate but, for a good night of sleep, it was perfect. the overview. great room. clean. quiet. nobody nearby. we stay in a lot of best westerns. this one (at least our room) was right at the top of good . stay here. go to the outpost for food. another review for that to follow
This is a comfortable little hotel in the mountains in Oregon. It seems the hotel caters to hunters this time of the year but that was not even an issue during our stay. The continental breakfast was fabulous! Real sausage country style gravy and wonderful biscuits! And in spite of the remodel they had going on, it was quiet and comfortable. I would definitely recommend this lovely little place.
Bed very comfortable. Breakfast outstanding. We figured the breakfast at a local restaurant would have cost $25 plus. It was hot and ready to go. Temperature of room was great. Room was clean and inviting. John Day hotel was under renovation but their services were set up to were convenient for the customer. We able to get a room the day of arrival.
We have gotten rooms a few dollars more in Las Vegas,NV I thought $124.00 was a little high, and they were going to give us adjoining room not, and the Jacuzzi tub didn't work. We were there to celebrate husbands fathers 90th birthday in Dayville and didn't want to drive all the way back to Pendleton, Or. Brother was staying at the hotel, we joined his family.
We recently stayed at BW John Day Inn for 3 nights while visiting the John Day Fossil Beds. Our room was clean and comfortable and all staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful. The pool and spa were well-maintained. One highlight was the breakfast service, which was administered by Johnny. He made us feel as if we were in his home and he was personally extending his hospitality to us. Thanks, Johnny, for your TLC. You are a great BW ambassador. The parking lot was full during the time we were there, attesting to the popularity of this property.
After some disappointing experiences driving north on US 395, it was a real pleasure to come into John Day and find a good hotel with friendly, helpful staff. The location is great; you can walk to local attractions, restaurants, etc. The room was a good size, with all the usual amenities, clean land convenient. If you're driving 395, we'd recommend this as the best place to stay.
Government Rate not available to active Military Service Members assisting with the Canyon Creek Forest Fire in John Day Oregon. Rooms available on some days but at double the rate allowance. Otherwise a very nice hotel that services the greater Grant County area and nearby rural communities.
