Stayed here Saturday and Sunday night , Friendly and pleasant staff . The room was clean and well priced. The only issue we had was a £40 surcharge for the dogs.
We just needed a clean comfortable place to stay for one night whilst visiting family in Yorkshire. I thought a cheap & cheerful hotel would do just fine. Unfortunately we arrived to the smell of a musty reception area. I didn't really care as long as the room was OK. It was not. The walls have no sound insulation and you can hear every noise and every conversation from the people in the next rooms. In addition to this, when we went to bed, we noticed the duvet cover had mold on it. I complained about the duvet when I checked out in the morning, after very little sleep due to the noises coming through the walls, and it was pretty much met with a shrug of the shoulders and a “oh sorry”.
Friendly and warm reception upon arriving, originally booked for one night only with my dog Fudge, had a lovely rest and sleep, I found the hotel clean and the staff helpful and friendly I decided to book evening, the morning I was supposed to check out. and the receptionist kindly gave me a breakfast on the house, this little action, gives a great deal. When returning to my room after breakfast I bumped into a lady who was in charge i assume in charge of the cleaning and towels etc, I found her friendly and very helpful, I mentioned there was no need to clean my room as i booked another night, again, she made sure i had enough towels and enough tea, coffee, and milk etc, to which the reception had gave me extra. This hotel has a huge field at the rear and ideal for my dog to run about and i will be booking again when next im at Huddersfield. What would make this hotel 100%, if the kitchen opened and hot food in the morning and evening meals. Nothing better to eat good food, have a drink and not having to drive. Anthony Booth 27.08.26
Only seen the reviews about this hotel after I booked and unable to cancel. I wouldn't recommend this hotel for anyone especially families. Looks like there's down and outs staying at this hotel and congregate outside for a smoke. Talk about feeling unsafe. Also had a rude awakening at 6 in the morning by an Indian woman banging on my door. Stay well away because the staff wasn't interested when I told them about it. As for the breakfast. Nothing was kept cool. The juice and milk was room temperature.
We stayed in this hotel many years ago and found it very charming with friendly and helpful staff and excellent service. How disappointed we were on our recent visit. I'm not sure it warrants the title of “hotel”. One member of staff on duty at front desk, no restaurant, no bar, no apparent services that would be expected in this type of hotel. Very tired and run down. A faint smell of damp and cannabis throughout. People lingering around the hotel entrance at least one of them definitely smoking cannabis (hence the lingering smell). Bed very uncomfortable, looked very old and well worn. One staff on duty was extremely helpful and did give us complementary toast and cereal for breakfast. This hotel could be returned to its original charm, it's a beautiful building and has a lot of potential. It's a shame it's been left to be so run down.
The hotel was a complete disappointment. The dated decor, the stiflingly hot room , cigarette burns on the bathroom counter top, 1 large bath towel for a couple, the very poor bed, the hairdryer that sounded like it had loose ball bearings inside.. What was a long weekend turned out to be 1 restless night and an early departure. Oh and what the lovely pictures don't show is how run down and overgrown everywhere is. The cherry on this cake is the M62 Is just behind the trees. Thinking of booking???
The room was clean, comfortable and had recently been renovated. The staff were friendly and there was ample parking. The hotel is just outside of Huddersfield so it is rural and quiet but it is easy to get to the town, shops and retail parks. The building appears to be Victorian and is attractive. The modern extensions have been been constructed in a sympathetic way so they blend in with the original house. Good value for money. A Travelodge and Premier Inn in the same area would have been about 50% more. The communal areas of the hotel appear a little tired. For example the internal doors. Next to my room are doors and stairs down to the ground floor fire exit. However, the external fire exit door was no longer attached and was laying flat on the floor. In addition to the security risk, it mean that the wind would howl down the corridor (the hotel is rural and the grounds are open to the wind). The restaurant and bar are not available and the hotel can only offer a continental breakfast. However, it is made very clear at the time of booking and checking in that this is the case. I hope this is a temporary measure and that the hotel are renovating and recruiting to offer this in the future. As this would really enhance a stay at this hotel. I know a lot of locals thought that this hotel was permanently closed. I believe that the hotel had closed but reopened under new management, which explains some of the things I have mentioned and why the hotel seemed really empty and to some a little creepy.
Extremely disappointing stay, the hotel is run on a shoestring with only one staff member present. No bar or restaurant and the breakfast was a poor continental selection. We booked an executive room but got minimal sleep due to a drunk and loud couple arguing all night long. The hotel did offer us a different room which was cold and adequate despite the extraction fan not turning off and quite loud. The hotel furniture is dated and needs replacing. It was quite clean with decent bedding and towels provided. Noisy next to the motorway but the extra glazing stopped the road noise.
Oh my word! We didn't even stay the night after some of the unsavoury people we saw staying there. Found out after they house the homeless and it's very clear to see. STAY AWAY.
Room was comfy and clean and receptionist was friendly. Disappointed to find no bar service at 9.50pm on a Saturday night.
DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I come up to Huddersfield for work and all the usual hotels were booked. i looked at the website and thought it looked nice enough. I am not fussy about hotels for work i just want to eat and go to sleep. There is no bar. There is no restaurant. The were men just standing around outside smoking and drinking. I don't remember the last time i felt unsafe but I didn't even feel safe in the tired shabby room that smelled of smoke. They definitely house people that are not usual hotel guests. I checked out and went to stay with a friend. This hotel is not safe for women and children and should be removed from all booking sites. Its website is fraudulent!!!!!!!!!!!
Awful experience - grim tired hotel. No food just a flyer for the nastiest looking junk food takeaway. No one around to serve at breakfast. But the biggest failure - arriving tired after a long day of meetings and driving, checking in, and no staff tells you to register the car registration!!!! Not looking for notices so received a penalty notice from a private firm with images showing a parked car and for a £100 fine (or £60 immediately). Call hotel and a verbal shrug of the shoulders, not their issue - well it is because I consider that lack of communicating there's a registering process, legally as entrapment. Do not use this hotel for a number of reasons - they deserve to go out of business.
Stayed here last year to get some of the best pizza in town for my birthday and it was amazing and I loved it so much I can't wait to get back to it again soon and I can't wait for my birthday so we could go out to dinner and eat at the restaurant I can't believe how good that was
Had a number of rooms booked for my wedding, with less than 1 month to go they were all cancelled. I was told it was a booking error but I believe they house council tenants awaiting homes. I luckily found another local hotel willing to book in a wedding party at short notice, however it was double the price. I got no compensation from the old golf house. I now have people who cannot afford to stay over and will have to drive a significant distance after our wedding. It really has spoilt our day. Add to that my booking was cancelled with just under a month to go, however I had some friends who booked separately, who's rooms were not cancelled until 1 week before the wedding. Our new hotel was sold out and some of the local hotels were more than double the costs due to it being a late booking. So I now have a friend with a young child having to drive home after the wedding and can no longer stay for the whole evening as planned. I don't understand why it took so long to inform the other guests that their bookings were being cancelled. We could have booked everyone in at the new hotel but due to costs some decided to stay at the golf house as their rooms hadn't been cancelled initially. I guess when you have a council contract you don't really need to keep anyone else happy. As long as the council keep paying you. I am disappointed because the staff I dealt with, on 2 separate occasions when visiting the hotel, were lovely and very helpful. I know it isn't the staffs fault but it really has ruined my thoughts on this hotel. We live local and love to support local, but we will be avoiding anything to do with the golf house now and encouraging family and friends to do the same too. Myself and my wedding guests are out of pocket due to this "booking system error" and had no offer of compensation from the hotel. I just got a list of local hotels, that I was already aware of due to living locally and working in events. Some of the later cancelled guests where asked if they needed help finding somewhere new but they all knew of my other recommended hotels and their faith in this hotel was already ruined. I believe some of them did question why it took so long for their rooms to be cancelled when they knew they couldn't honour the booking 3 weeks earlier, but they never got an answer to this. Please avoid booking this hotel! It isn't what it used to be, the photo's are all old photo's, from pre covid. Also google the hotel and you will find youtube videos of people exploring it when it was closed between 2020-2022. It has only recently reopened.
We've just had our booking to stay next week for two days cancelled at short notice because they are over booked. No reason why they chose us, but looking at the reviews it looks like we're not the first for this to happen too. We booked the room 6 months ago and now have a short time to arrange somewhere else to stay for our friends wedding next week. Management left reception staff to deal with all this and weren't willing to come to the phone. On top of that I'm told they regularly have staff working 16 hour days. So poor management all around, and terrible customer service.
I stayed here with my two children age 4 and 2 years and we did not feel safe. The hotel housed homeless people who smoked and drunk cans of beer upon entrance and the hotel itself smelt of alcohol and weed. The WiFi was very poor and the TV did not work- again not ideal for a single mother with two very young children. Bedroom had 🪰 and the residents nextdoor to us had their music on loud at 00.15am, not great when children are trying to sleep. With all this going on I didn't even bother going downstairs for breakfast. Avoid at all costs!!!
Had a large number of rooms booked for myself, family and friends for my wedding in less than 1 month. Now all cancelled due to "system error" but I call bulls***. I think they have a government contract so they're cancelling everyone else. Save yourself the hassle and don't book with them. I now have to find somewhere else for my guests travelling from London, Leicester, Nottingham, Scotland and Ireland! No idea what we're going to do if no local hotels will accommodate us (a lot won't if they already have a wedding booked). Funnily enough all my family who booked bia booking.com haven't been cancelled, just my direct booking.
