My sister got married here over the weekend. Decorations that were suppose to be hung up the night before, those garlands did not start getting hung up until after 1pm, AFTER we said we needed them up by 1-1:30pm. The conference room was suppose to be unlocked at 7:30am, wasn't opened until almost 8:30, Not before the front desk associate argued that it was open. Bridesmaids asked the front desk if they could get a pitcher of water in the conference room where they were getting ready the Front desk female associate told them they had to pay for it out of the vending machine… ( hours later brought 5 pitchers of water in, not without a lot of attitude and rudeness first and asking more than twice) because the bridesmaids AND bride went to the front desk together again asking for some. they only had 1 maintenance guy working and he was Amazing and wicked helpful! We felt bad that they left all this work for him to do and kept adding more. Until eventually someone ( I think) showed up to help him. This whole time the wedding Photographer is not only taking photos, but has stepped up and helped coordinate everything that wasn't Getting done. Because there was no event coordinator around. Your event “coordinator”, you shouldn't even call her that, supposedly has been doing this for 25 years…. You could have fooled us!!! She Did NOT show up until maybe 1pm. Had multiple phone calls from the front desk associate and to and from the Bride ALL morning long with issues and still did not show up until around 1pm. When she did show up it was hard to find her. She took off during wedding photos to “ scope out the areas”. After dinner was served she was no where to be seen again. Didn't check in with the bride or groom and didn't let them know she was leaving. The hotel itself was clean and nice. The front desk associate was extremely rude( the two girls who came in during the afternoon were amazing at the front desk) and the event coordinator was horrible leaving the bride to coordinate much of her own wedding with the help of her bridesmaids.
The staff was friendly and provided exceptional service. Thank you to Lexi, Maddy and Tracy. Hotel was great. The restaurant - not so much. Food was good, but the dining area service was the worst! ......................................
If you are looking for a quiet place, this is not it.Dogs barking all night, dogs owners attending wedding/reception in hotel. When recertion over ,party moved to hotel room until 330am.Music blaring!!! What did the hotel do about it?NOTHING!! When my travels take me to Canton/Potsdam again,I will not be staying here.
I stayed at University Inn in Canton when dropping my daughter off at school. I booked through Expedia, which had failed to properly communicate my paid-in-full reservation to the hotel. The young woman at the front desk, Sophie, was magnificent in handling this difficult situation. She was calm, courteous, efficient, and successful in negotiating repeatedly with Expedia and making everything work for our stay.
I stay at this hotel multiple times every year visiting family. I have aways had great experiences. The hotel is well maintained. All of the staff is friendly and helpful. You always get a warm greeting from anyone you meet. Maintenance, housekeeping, front desk and wait staff it doesn't matter they all will give you a "hello" and a smile. Quite often I will visit the pub especially for a nightcap on my way back to my room. This visit Maeve was tending the bar. She was great! Great service and wonderful personality. She was quite busy handling the pub and the dining room orders but we were able to chat a bit after things settled down. I enjoyed my visit so much the first night I made it a point to stop the next two evenings as well. It made me happy to see that Maeve was also working those shifts. I always look forward to my visits to this hotel. It is the friendly staff that makes it.
This hotel definitely needs updating. Carpets were worn and dirty looking. Room with double beds is super small. Bathroom very small too. Beds were comfortable. Overall was a pleasant stay. We came in the middle of the storm Debbie staff was very friendly and accommodating.
We travelled with another couple for a golf 2 night stay. We were very impressed with the hospitality and friendliness of all staff especially our favourite booking person, Sonja. The room was very clean and comfortable. Pool and fitness area was well equipped with lots of towels and amenities in the washroom/change rooms. Pool was the perfect temperature and area well supplied with chairs, tables and extra towels. I did not use the hot tub but my friend said it was also the best temperature. We had one breakfast, lunch and a dinner in the dining room. Our servers were efficient and friendly with the food being delicious and reasonably priced.. The golf course also accommodated us with a change in tee time on our second day so we wouldn't have to play after the juniors teed off. and yes, also friendly. Sonja was more than willing to give us a key so that we could enjoy the pool and showers after our last hot golf day since we had already checked out but had a drive back home to Ontario. This was a most enjoyable stay where we could eat, play and sleep in one place with no complaints. We will be back! Thanks to all staff of Best Western University Inn at canton. Forgot to mention coffee, tea and water available all day I lobby area. Marlene and Den
Great find. The room was very comfortable. All you need was right at the hotel with restaurant and bar on site. Nicely located with gas, groceries and food within a block or two Lovely pool and hot tub The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend
Right off the highway close to a few restaurants, this BW is perfect for a quick stop over. We would stay in a Balcony king room with consisting of a very comfortable king size bed that some may require a step stool to get in to……… a microwave and mini fridge are included! The outside balcony runs the length of the room and provides entertainment watching the golfer's ‘T' off right below – It is not the quietest but there was no noise after 7pm The room and property is aged and has partially been updated and painted. The closet doors were easily from the 80's and the red heat lamps in the bathroom were always a nice touch on a cold morning…… The best part of staying here are the staffs who are personable, amenable and go the extra mile to make the stay comfortable and enjoyable!
Had a great time, amazing and helpful staff, beautiful golf course. Can't wait to come back. Would recommend to anyone.
The toilet seat would not lift up or down because of the sink vanity was too close to the toilet. The room was cold, and we could not control the heat because the thermostat was busted. The Pool and sauna were excellent. The Fitness Center was the best I have ever seen. The hotel had a fire during our stay.
The employees here, were friendly and accommodating. We traveled here to attend an event at our daughters university. It is a great location, with close proximity to SLU and sits right on the golf course. Unfortunately, this hotel is pretty dated. With newer hotels opening within very close proximity to SLU as well, Best Western should work to update the guest rooms as well as the common areas. I did appreciate the discount for being there for an event at SLU.
My daughter left a swimsuit behind and BW wanted $24 to return it to her. It cannot cost more than $6 or $7 to mail back a swim suit. They then said that it would be two weeks that way but for $45 it could be quicker. This seems like extortion. How much effort is involved in putting a swimsuit in a padded envelope and dropping it in the mail? Someone is turning a great profit here.
Laid over additional night due to inclement weather. Jacuzzi and pool room great diversion to hiccup in travel plans. Super comfy pillow top king size bed. Love the Exec suites with patio/balcony, especially in summer overlooking the golf course. Convenient location to food options including their own restaurant and bar. We love this hotel.
I stayed at BW for one night for our son college visit. We usually use bigger chains of hotel names due to my husband's being very finicky about bathroom cleanliness. Well we were pleasantly very impressed, the bathroom and the room looked like no one has used it yet. Very polish and fresh. The bed was very confortable, and the hotel was quiet, we had a very restful night. When we were leaving my thought was this is more than 3 stars hotel. They should be in the 4 ⭐️ category.
Very comfortable beds and room. Lots of parking and the front desk staff is very friendly and helpful. Nice to have both a bar and restaurant available. The bed was extremely comfortable. My only complaint was that the bathroom had a bit of a mildewy smell and I wish that the bathrooms there were updated to match the updated rooms.
This hotel has a pool and gym. It's great to relax and have something to do in between outings. They also allowed signage at the desk stating shuttle service to the wedding and other updates. Asked for water and they thought nothing about giving us bottled water for the room. Room had a mini fridge and microwave.
I previously stayed with choice, hotels and recently decided to switch because a lot of areas do not accommodate to choice hotels, and best. Western seems to have hotels everywhere and they're more accessible.
This visit was a nightmare from check in to check out. The front desk staff provided incredibly poor customer service for a group traveling on business. They were surly and very unhelpful. The final straw was that they couldn't tell me if I could check out 15 minutes late. Avoid this hotel at all costs.
I have stayed several times at this BW. I have also tried the other (few) area hotels, but now my preference is to get a BW room if there's one available. This is for a few reasons. But one big reason is because of the friendliness of the staff. They are very helpful if I call with any questions, and are very friendly when checking in. It is not the newest/most updated hotel in the immediate area, but the staff and in house bar/restaurant make up for that. The other reason I try to choose them first is because they do not price gouge for popular dates like some of the other area hotels. And, they still offer a flexible/refundable rate for these popular dates, unlike other area hotels. Those popular dates are parent weekend, and graduation weekend, and some sports weekends. I found at one of the other hotels, that parent weekend was almost triple their normal price, and no option of cancelation/refund. BW is very accommodating when they can be!
Being someone from the NJ/NYC area, Canton seems very remote. Not a lot going on here…more land and a slower pace. So by the odd happenings that brought me up here, I tempered my expectations. It's obviously not going to be the Ritz. However, the BW exceeded my expectations and reminded me to leave my preconceived notions at the door. Love: treats at check in, fireside chairs in lobby and restaurant, friendly and accommodating staff (front desk and especially bartender with fun braids/locs), coffee bar (the restaurant will happily give you milk if you ask), neat and modern appearance, quiet guests. Didn't love: numerous hairs on duvet cover…if it wasn't for this I would have given this hotel five stars.
Rooms(at least mine) was very outdated. Could definitely use some more modern touches. Room was fine other than that. The only issue I had was whomever was the breakfast attendant. She handed me a menu, I looked at it a second and just decided to go across the street to the McDonald's. As I'm walking away she says, "are you even a guest here?" That caught me off guard to say the least. So I showed her my room key. Not really sure why she felt the need to ask me that question. That's the only rough experience I've ever had at that BW.
I have stayed at the Best Western a bunch of times in the past 10 years and it's always a great experience. It's clean and comfortable with an incredibly accomodating and friendly staff. I highly recommend staying here.
Very disorganized front desk. There is a long walk to the pool. Rooms very small and and the housekeeping was woefully inadequate. The shower was difficult to adjust the temp and the shower head was very sub stansard
I checked the Best Western website an hour before my arrival and there were rooms available. When I got to the front desk I was told in an unapologetic way that "We are totally booked for the night". I said, well I just checked the website an hour ago and there were rooms available, the not so nice woman working the front desk again said in a no so nice tone that "I said we were booked for the night". So I went across the street to the Fairfield Inn. Nice place, I'll review that as well. I did however return to the Worst Western's restaurant for dinner..... Dont bother, not much better than the front desk. Service was good, food mediocre. Oh by the way... while I was waiting for my meal, I checked their website again to see if there were rooms available and there were. I just started a job where I travel often for work and the Best Western chain just got crossed off my list unfortunately. Looked like a nice place. I guess I'll stick with Marriott.
Cockroaches everywhere in the room, and when I went and asked to be in a different room they told me “I'm sorry but I doubt there cockroaches” then I proceeded to show them a video I took and they still didn't do anything about it and told me that I can't be put into a new room. Awful customer service would never come here again
I reserved a room for myself and upon arrival, I was told that when I gave my credit card info to reserve the room, I paid for it so I couldn't get the AAA discount. I was told that in order to do so, I should've called to reserve the room and that it was too bad because AAA offers great rewards. In the morning, I went down to breakfast, which was included. Well, the only thing available were Danishes, which I know aren't fresh. But, I could certainly utilize the restaurant and pay for my breakfast. I will never stay here again which is too bad because of it's close proximity to St. Lawrence. I would rather skip an overnight and drive the 2 1/2 hours back home!
I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. We were in the area for a wedding. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. I utilized the pool as well as the hot tub. The food was delicious in the hotel restaurant as well as reasonably priced. The housekeeping was outstanding, and our balcony room was very spacious. I was impressed at how well everything was done especially since I was told that the hotel was sold out for the weekend! Great work, everyone!!!
This place has a fitness center with working equipment. It has a Pool, sauna and jacuzzi. It is close to all the local colleges and right in town, by all the stores. It is in walking distance to grocery stores and fast food.
I thought the room and facilities were clean, and the staff friendly. I'd go there again. Check-in was quick and easy. The front desk took ownership of the facility The restaurant food was good. Servers were friendly. Service could be a little quicker. I think they were short-staffed, but who isn't? Overall a very positive experience.
Great place to stay. The staff is very friendly. They got a bar and laundry room. Everything is nearby the restaurants, universities, other towns, golf courses and the U.S/Canadian border. They got local farmers market in the town as well.
Great location and right next to a very nice golf course. The lounge and restaurant were very nice with delicious food and drinks. The pool is a nice area with warm water, a patio and a view of the golf course.
Hotel room was nice, clean, business center and pool were awesome. Restaurant was horrible. We didn't get our orders right after wsiting FOREVER....waitvstaff are clueless about the food and tell you what you want to hear onlyvyo get your food wrong. Twice we ordered an item we did not get. The alcohol from the bar is either watered down or what is supposed to be top shelf is clearly replaced with rotgut. We ordered a cape cod with Absolute...coukdnt taste it...we asked for another shot...still coukdnt taste it. Finally we asked gor the shot glass it was below standard shot and we paid dearly for that drink that was STILL mostly sicky sweet drink mix. We gave them both an opportunity to prove better...they both failed even worse than before. Day three we opted for McDonalds and Corona from store across the street. The airvof this hotel is 5 star however the bar and restaurant bring it WAY down to 2 stars if that. To say highly disappointed is an understatement. Finallyvat check out I was charged 30 dollars more per day than quoted. It was fixed but I will probably NOT stay here again. Best feature...pool...and it is literally the ONLY thing for kids and teens to do.
There was a memorial service for my college hockey coach in Canton. Quite a few of us attended and I stayed at the Best Western University Inn. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and the rooms were really nice. The restaurant/bar was great with quality food and a great selection of beers. Also, there is literally a high quality 18 hole golf course directly behind the hotel. But the best part about my stay was the nice, friendly staff who were extremely accommodating!
First room they gave me had a very aggressive smell of chemicals (detergent? room deodorant?). Asked for another room that only had a stale locker room smell. Opened the window and smell was tolerable after returning two hours later. Furniture and bathroom have some signs of wear but were well cleaned. Breakfast is a sitdown affair, you have to order from the menu and wait too long to make it for a meeting, so skipped that after first night. Restaurant is generally ok.
Our stay at the Best Western University Inn was excellent. From check in to check out, we were very satisfied with the efficient, friendly staff. Being right on the golf course made it perfect as we never had to drive to and from golf. The meals were adequate, though the restaurant service was minimal at best. The rooms are clean and well serviced. I would recommend this hotel to anyone travelling.
The BW University Inn has been our home away from home for the past 4 years our son was a student at SLU. We have loved every minute of our time here and especially enjoyed the convenience of the on-site restaurant and bar.
Guest room was clean and the restaurant service was cheerful. I would stay there again next time I am in the area. Since ther is a 200 character minimum for this review, I will continue to type until .
Our family had a great stay here! Room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. Yes, the room is a bit small, but that didn't really bother us. The pool and hot tub were fantastic! (And open, which seems to be unusual with other hotels lately) Breakfast is not included, but the hotel restaurant was great and reasonably priced. We'll definitely be back!
The hotel was clean and presented well, staff was professional and pleasant. We were here for a campus tour of St Lawrence Univ and the location was very convenient for that as well as very close to food options and gas. Room was clean, bathroom was surprisingly smaller than expected. Convenient to have a restaurant on site, but food was only so-so. No free breakfast advertised or offered, but if you asked they would give a ‘to go' breakfast of pre-wrapped goods. Unfortunately, the 24/7 coffee bar had run out of coffee by 830a? Due to a winter storm suddenly in the forecast, we chose to leave a day early and they kindly did not penalize us for changing the reservation - they were very nice about it. Overall a nice stay.
My wife and I are Hispanic and felt racially targeted by one individual at the front desk. The. G.M was told and the situation continued. I had to call corporate for it to stop. Now I just received notice from my job that I'm not welcomed back. Very unprofessional and a personal attack when you contact my employer.
The staff was very friendly and the rooms were clean. Hot tub wasn't in operation when we stayed however we took advantage of the pool. Would recommend. Between the restaurant and lounge there were plenty of options for food and drink.
I had the pleasure of staying in one of the rooms with a large balcony. The view was magnificent! The large room was warm and very comfortable. The beds are always extra nice to sleep in. The staff is always friendly and very helpful. The pool and exercise room are really nice. I also made use of the business center. It's a wonderful place to stay,
I always stay at this Hotel when I am anywhere within 25 miles of it. Love the view, staff, lounge (FOOD). Do not hesitate to stay here. Love the pool and sauna and hot tub. Always clean and fun. Kudos to the staff!
Location is very convienent to my needs. The hotel has a very good restaurant and is one of the few restaurants, other than fast food in the near vacinity. Rooms are well kept and comfortable. Would recommend staying here.
The staff was courteous and quite helpful. My room was clean and well stocked with towels, soaps and other stuff. I'm very particular about my food. I'm happy to say the omelette at breakfast was exactly as I wanted it.
Great place to stay. Friendly staff, clean, and the food was great. Right now the restaurant is only open on weekends but what we had was very good. Grounds back up to golf course which was very picturesque. Close to stores and colleges.
Great place to stay! Highly recommend! The staff is always friendly and engaging. Great amenities! Beautiful location set on gorgeous golf course. Located close to the universities, and a quick walk to shopping and fast food restaurants. Home away from home. Highly recommended.
We stayed at this location to visit my son in college. It was close and we loved that it had a pool. We were impressed by the wonderful service we recieved while there. The staff went out of their way to help us any way they could. The pool, sauna and hot tub were relaxing. My son loved the gym when he came by. The restaurant has very good food and was very accommodating.
The rules you have to agree to, ONCE YOU ARRIVE WITH YOUR DOG, make this an unfriendly pet hotel. They do not tell you the rules when you reserve your stay. Your dog must stay in the room, but can't be left alone, so your family can't use the pool unless someone stays back. This hotel inflated their price during SUNY Canton's Family Weekend too. I think that's shameful to take advantage of families driving in to spend time with their college kids.
The hotel staff was extremely friendly and the food in the restaurant was excellent. The room was clean and comfortable. The location is close to several colleges and universities which made it just what we needed.
The staff was great. - greeted everyone that came thru the lobby - cleaning staff was also very helpful . We ate in the hotel restaurant for dinner twice and breakfast twice . The staff in the restaurant was also top notch . The food was very good and the portions were great . The only thing that we would like to see is the beds lower - the girls said there are some lower but most of them are very high . They are VERY comfortable and we slept great but we had to climb into it . So if you need something slow you need to request it .
I enjoyed my stay at this Hotel and recommend it to others! I was warmly greeted by the front desk staff, the room was very clean, and I had no issues. I used the internet and had no problems and enjoyed the complimentary breakfast.
We spent 1 night here traveling with our puppy. The staff were welcoming and treated our puppy great! She got a nice bag of treats when we checked in. Rooms were quiet , allowing for a good night's sleep. Rooms were clean and comfortable.
Definitely my go to Hotel to stay on our next trip to Canton. All of the staff were extremely cordial and helpful during our recent stay! Highly recommended! Clean and up to date facility. Restaurant not fully up to capacity every day for breakfast, but very generous grab and go breakfasts are offered.
It was a tremendous stay. Room was perfect, food was great and the location couldn't of been more perfect. The people at the front desk were very attentive and responded quickly to any question that I may of had.
On an overnight trip to this area for a family visit, my sister and I stayed at the University Inn on her suggestion. It was squeaky clean and obviously adheres to all current protocols. An extremely comfortable room and bed gave us a good nights rest. Staff are friendly and professional and glad to give me a couple small items I had forgotten to pack. There was a business area where I could use the computer, which I greatly appreciated. I would recommend the hotel highly. Thank you for a pleasant place to relax.
My wife and I have stayed here in the past. This visit made us think this is the last. The employees take more pleasure over telling what you can't do rather than concentrating on service. I was admonished when I stepped on the carpet in the front lobby in front of other guests that I had crossed their coved line. No pool, no workout room no breakfast bar no coffee bar. And higher prices. By the way. When my wife and I checked in together last evening, we didn't notice the attendant had only given us one key. There was one couple in the lobby and we were forced to wait outside the building until they checked in. The only reason I went back to the lobby this morning was to get a second key. The attendant never asked what I needed. Friends, remember there are lots of choices where you can spend your money. This is a public inn not the DMV. Someone needs to remind the employees.
We were pleased with the genuine kindness and concern for our comfort. Wendi actually asked if we needed a blanket for our fur baby! Everything was clean and comfortable. We are looking forward to using the pool and hot tub during our next visit.
Clean close to school and good food! Nice staff and comfortable beds and very quiet. A great stay and we will be back. Wendi is terrific managing the hotel with efficiency and kindness. Really the whole staff goes above and beyond!
The hotel was clean and updated. The pool and restaurant were available and the grab and go breakfast was better then most hotels. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the area and made us feel comfortable and welcomed. I would recommend this property and hope to visit the area again. But what is the story of the decorative toilets on Main Street?
I've stayed at this Best Western in the past and it's still just as wonderful as before. They have the best staff with the warmest hearts! Not to mention the best cookies at check in. It's easy to make a reservation and you can actually speak with someone at the hotel regarding any questions or concerns. How do I go about buying one of their beds and pillows? It's the most comfortable bed I've slept in! I had the best sleep in a long while after a long road trip. Why should you stay here? They have all the amenities you need and overlooking a golf course. It's just a wonderful place to get away and unwind!
Bar/Restaurant closes at 9 and no bar now. Meals way too expensive. Without that amenity, this hotel has lost its advantage. Also, a fire alarm at 9 a.m. That's a horrible and arbitrary way to treat guests.
The Best western University Inn in Canton NY is my favorite place to stay when visiting in the area. I find the employees very pleasant and accommodating. My room is always clean and I am always being asked if I need anything. The beds, oh the beds, I can sleep when I stay there. Resting is something I look forward to when I travel and I can sleep like a baby in their beds.
My friends and I gathered to play golf and relax. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful. The price was excellent for the accommodations.
Balcony rooms look over Golf course. Super fun watching tee offs. They have beautiful indoor pool and jacuzzi. Bar and restaurant offered a versatile menu, considering restraints with Covid-19. Rooms are clean. Bedding is super comfy. Staff are exceptional.
Good food and bar right on premises. Hot tub and a surprisingly efficient fitness center with good equipment. When I travel I do not like to have to drive after getting to the hotel. This place was perfect.
Love this hotel (When it is available and affordable). Front desk staff is always helpful and friendly. Bar staff is exactly the same. Cleaning staff on time and room is always clean. We've tried all the hotels in Canton (including the new one) and there is no comparison to this hotel.
The is a nice Best Westerns. Some of the older rooms are small but well appointed. The fitness center rivals or exceeds any other hotel center. the staff is pleasant and attentive. The bar/lounge is nice.
I'd certainly stay here again. The layout of the hotel was a little odd. But the rooms were clean, comfortable and reasonably priced. We didn't arrive until after 8:00 that night. Grabbed a dinner at the restaurant. The food was great!
My wife and I were very impressed with this Best Western. Very clean, Comfortable and Quiet. The hot tub was big and the hottest I think I have ever been in. There really isn't anything I can complain about.
Bed was like at home - Queen and very soft mattress and pillows. Heat was nice and shower was hot. Microwave and Fridge and Cable TV were all added bonsuses. Room Service went above and beyond to help too.
We've traveled to Canton for six years during both of our sons' time attending St Lawrence University and always stay here. The staff are wonderful and attentive -- best in the business! They work hard to honor our special request for the location of the room that we prefer. The restaurant and lounge are also worth using. I also depend on the fitness center and pool for R&R. It totally meets our expectation for the type of hotel it is and what it offers! Best of the North Country.
Motel was fine stayed 1 night on our way through to home stay away from the restaurant food was terrible had shrimp scampi the shrimp was over cook and in linguine and some sort of sauce more like lemon water I told the waitress and she said she would get me another dish but I said no couldn't do it right the first time why try again and she never even offered a break on the price either won't do that restaurant again
Overall a nice hotel. Rooms are clean, and quiet, the beds are very comfortable. The staff has always been very nice each time I've stayed here. Nice fitness/pool area with a small outdoor patio as well. The food is excellent. Stayed here for college visits/move-in days. I highly recommend this hotel.
The whole stay was quite pleasant. Yet the breakfast experience was to be improved: The window seats are gorgeous and attractive. However, we spent our chances twice there, the same situation happened twice, which was quite disappointing. There were tables, but we were not arranged to sit at the tables. The reason was that the table was not cleaned yet, although we said we can wait. BTW, it was not very busy at the time. The even worse thing was, when there a table for 4, we were told we only have 2. But later, when a group of 2 came, they were offered to sit at that table. I don't want to complain about the skin color issue, but this is NOT ACCEPTABLE! Other than that, everything was great.
The property is very clean and staff superb. The location is ideal to go into Potsdam or any of the other colleges. My room was very comfortable and clean. There is a restaurant attached and a lounge both are clean and friendly.
Hotel seemed new and updated. Staff was friendly. My only issue was with the AC, which did not keep the room as cool as I would have liked. (But in all fairness to the hotel, I did not report the issue)
This hotel fills up quickly, I assume from college sport teams. We've stayed a few times here and staff have always been friendly and the hotel has always been clean. The pool is nice and big, and nice sized hot tub. There are separate gender saunas and showers in the locker rooms near the pool. They don't have free breakfast but there is a restaurant in the hotel but I've never tried it.
As one of the organizers for our 50th reunion I cannot say enough good about our service. The room was beautiful, the staff was outstanding, the food was delicious, and the evening was a huge success. Sonya and her staff went above and beyond to accommodate all of our needs. We will definitely be back!! Barbara Bloomer
Worst hotel stay ever! They put us in a basement room. Musty odor. AC didn't work. Terrible mattresses. Tiny bathroom. All for $200 a night! Would never stay there again! Don't recommend this place. I thought this hotel was renovated. I guess they skipped the basement rooms.
I booked 2 rooms here for Clarkson graduation weekend. Rooms were 1/2 the price of the Hampton Inn in Potsdam. Hotel is clean, restaurant was very good, and they have a fantastic fitness center, pool, hot tub and sauna. Overlooks the St Lawrence U golf course. Staff was super friendly
Once again Best Western in Canton NY did not disappoint. We stayed for son's graduation as DPT from Clarkson. Other families stayed as well. We had dinner there too afterwards. We also had a lunch and breakfast. All meals were delicious and a great price! The hotel staff are lovely and beds are comfortable along with very clean rooms!
Had a short but pleasant visit with family. Staff is great and the restaurant has delicious food! Planning to be back again with my family during the summer! They know the town very well and can assist you with anything you need!
Stayed 1 night to visit my daughter in college. Its about a 15 min drive to the college. The rooms are clean. The beds are really comfortable. The sheets were spotless and they smell fresh and crisp. Very inviting. Its Great to have a fridge in the room. All staff was very helpful, friendly and accommodating A little disappointing that breakfast is not included like most best westerns.
Never fails at this hotel. Love the staff and the restaurant and the lounge. Ample, convenient parking for any room. Pool and hot tub and sauna are always clean and well stocked. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area. Very convenient location.
The thing I noticed most was that the front desk staff was not just courteous and professional (though they were that), but friendly and willing to help whatever the need, more than most any other hotel I've stayed in. My room was clean and enjoyable to stay in. The beds were a little high--I had to jump up a bit to get onto them, but very comfortable.
Stayed at this hotel a few times this year and all of visits has been very good. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the restaurant/bar offers a good menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Staff are very friendly and helpful.
The bathroom was nasty. It was hairs on the ceiling and in the shower the restaurant was great great food and service check in and out was fast and easy. Other that the nasty bathroom room it wasn't a bad stay
Enjoy staying at Bestwestern University Inn. The staff are always friendly and kind. Place is clean and very cozy. Never had an issue or complaint the times I have stayed here. Recommend everyone to stay here.
If you need to stay in Canton, this is the place. Rooms are big, clean and luxurious. Restaurant is good. Staff is great. Location is optimal, close to everything. I am a SLU parent and come up several times a year. Always stay here and have never been disappointed. This past trip was last minute, very stressful and I didn't know how long I would stay. The staff was very flexible and made it as easy as possible for me.
Since this is the only hotel in the area, we were obviously short on choices. However, everyone we encountered, from the front desk to the restaurant staff, was extremely friendly. The room was clean, but had an old smell to it. No free breakfast, but dinner at the hotel was good.
We went up to Cantin to visit our son at college. The weather went from decent to crazy windy, snowy in between there and home. We considered staying an extra night to avoid the storm in between Canton and home, three hours away. Your staff was very helpful, and patient , while we had a leisurely , late breakfast, making our decision.
The staff is very kind and helpful; rooms are spacious, modern, and well-kept. The pub is comfortable and clean as well. The hotel is easily accessible and visible from the road. The front desk staff is amazing.
Hallway door slammed anytime someone came through it on the 3 rd floor. Needs to be fixed. Made for a a long night. Bar- good selection of beers and good service. Breakfast in the restaurant was okay sausages were way overcooked and dry. Service was good. Rooms were clean and comfortable.
Very clean. Good value for money. Nice lounge great pool and hot tub. Restaurant under construction so very limited buffet meal for the next few weeks. Friendly attentive staff. Recommend this over other area hotels
The hotel staff was very pleasant and helpful and seemed to enjoy their jobs. It was very clean and rooms were nice as well as comfortable. We had a late night drink at lounge with popcorn. The lounge is very nice! Overall we were very satisfied and we enjoyed the cookies!
This is a great hotel to stay while in Canton. Front desk staff and lounge staff are friendly and provide good service. Warm ambience in the lobby with the fireplace. Complimentary coffee is a treat. Whether food is ordered in restaurant or lounge it arrived hot and was quick and delicious.
We've stayed here many times. The newly renovated rooms are a vast improvement. However, the rooms are still very, very small. There is not much room to walk around the beds. With 4 people, luggage, and winter clothing, it gets tight! The pool is the best feature - small but heated! It is an older hotel - and the walls are thin, coupled with the fact that lots of sports teams stay here, it can get very loud. There is a restaurant in the hotel. The hotel is located across the street from a grocery store and other basic amenities within walking distance. Best feature - the staff are very kind and helpful!
I have stayed at the best Western in Canton, NY several times and each time the experience has been just great. I think the fromnt desk staff - all shifts- are simply awesome. They were very accomdaiting and helped me as i had to change and yet change my reservation a third time. Restaurant was excellent as well.
Room extremely small. Not as depicted in picture. Do not try to fit more than 2 people in the room with 2 beds. Even though recently remodeled, rooms were dated and aged. No breakfast included with price. Good place to sleep and that is about it.
I was very pleased with my stay at the BW. The hotel lobby was very inviting and the front desk staff was welcoming. A one night stay didn't give me much time to take advantage of the hotel amenities but I checked them out. The restaurant looked very nice. The gym was really nice compared to many hotels that offer little tiny spaces to work out. The pool was inviting with a hot tub and sauna. Nice changing areas. My room with two beds was comfortable. The bathroom was a bit small and the flusher on the toilet was in an odd spot. I didn't love the pillows but the bed was good. Clean and comfortable. Free wifi. Large parking lot. I liked the hotel and thought it was very nice for the area. Reasonable rates.
Stayed that this establishment a couple of times. Nice, clean and a friendly staff. Only concern is the room rates are rather high for a hotel in a depressed area of northwestern New York. Plus they do NOT allow dogs. Not a Dog Friendly establishment which is a detriment. Other BW hotels have a fee which I would gladly (and do) pay at other establishments.
Recently stayed at the BW University Inn. Staff was friendly, rooms were very clean. Will bring our bathing suits next time. Did not realize the great pool, hot tub ,sauna and fitness area available to us
I really loved the beds here. They were so comfortable I didn't move all night. The staff was wonderful and the pool and hot tub were clean. There is a restaurant and lounge inside the hotel. The golf course out back was a gorgeous view.
We had an excellent stay at this BW. The front desk staff were friendly, helpful, and quick with the checkin/checkout and with providing us information at anytime regarding the area. We enjoyed the restaurant and the lounge-food and service was plentiful and service great in both areas. Rooms were very clean, beds comfy, plenty of room. The hotel was full; everyone we saw seemed to be enjoying their stay. There weren't any noise issues.Great walking paths on ground-foliage was beautiful. This BW is very convenient to highways, walking/driving into town-very nice town with lots of charm and character; pumpkin and apple farms near by too. Lots of amenities for all. Definitely recommend this BW and will stay there again-a most wonderful weekend here for sure.
I stay at a lot of Best Western hotels in my travels. This one is unique in its layout design but it was very comfortable and clean. The beds were perfect not too firm not too soft just right, and with the right amount of pillows (three per bed). I was in a double bed room and there was a table with two chairs which was tightly placed in the corner between the heating unit in the television armoire. One notable thing about this hotel versus other Best Westerns I've stayed at, is that the bathroom is quite small. The toilet is wedged in a very small space between the sink and counter and the shower. Also the thing that really kept this hotel from getting a five star rating for me was the shower head. The build up of what I can only assume is years of hard water usage makes the shower head kind of gross looking-not the first thing you want to see in the morning. The staff a check in was super accommodating and friendly. As an interesting sidenote, if you're fan of the classic Stephen king horror ‘The Shining', you'll enjoy the hallways thoroughly.
The room and bathroom were a bit small, but very clean. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. Breakfast was not part of the stay. Coffee was available. The location was fine. I was there to visit my daughter at Potsdam, it was an easy 10 minute drive to the college.
I have no complaints and would stay there again. Restaurant was nice. We ate there for breakfast . I don't know if you have any input with the restaurant but my husband and I both had the home fries and they were pretty much burnt. That's our only complaint.
The Best Western is Canton, NY was really great. It seemed to be brand new...clean, bright and the staff was friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful experience. I would stay there again and would recommend it to family and friends.
The Best Western in Canton, New York is a real diamond in the rough. Canton is in a very sparsely populated area in up state New York. The hotel is very large, clean, comfortable, and located very near the St. Lawrence University campus. If I am ever in Canton again, the Best Western is where I'll stay.
The place has everything that one expects for business travel just none of it very good. Check the box for ok in every category. I was there for a business reason for a week and unfortunately it is the best that Canton has to offer in terms of a full service place to stay. Good looking, clean. Food not so red hot and not so good - except for breakfast. All that said, I would stay there again.
Bring a fly swatter and a good book to read while you wait if you have to eat in the restaurant. Choices for healthy dinning are limited in the area. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Check in and check out were easy
Stayed two nights to move son into suny Canton. Nice hotel, good staff at front desk and lounge. Bed is very comfortable! Recommend booking early as it fills up. Unable to book a third night. Will be staying again when visiting.
This older hotel as some people like to call it has more to offer than some newer ones. Hotel room was clean, comfortable bed and good linens. Large pool and hot tub areas were spotless. Also offer sauna and gym but unfortunately no time to try. Restaurant , bar and golf course also on site. Rates were also reasonable.
Very nice motel. We have nothing negative to say about it. The bed was very comfortable. The internet worked fine. The person at check-in was very helpful. The staff were all nice. They have a guest laundry mat which is a plus.
This hotel is always a pleasure to stay at. The staff i helpful and knowledgeable. When in Canton I always stay here. The beds are comfortable and the rooms always clean. It is a very hospitable environment.
While this is an older hotel, it is very clean with comfortable beds and nice linens. It was quiet and it met our needs. The wifi was good. Room was roomy In our room, the bathroom was a little cramped because the put an oversized counter in during a renovation. That having been said, there was plenty of room to get ready in the bedroom and there was an outlet next to the mirror in the bed room. Overall, this was a nice place to stay and were would come back again
Stayed here when visiting SUNY Canton to see if liked the school. I had an excellent stay, food was good too. The rooms was very clean. Everyone very friendly when checking in and out. Will stay here again
Updated room; very clean and comfortable. Great service in the lounge (I had no idea there was a lounge—it is hidden away behind the front desk). Great service at breakfast but the dinner servers were sub-par (slow; problems with check; never checking back in after serving the food).
Some remodeling has helped this hotel as it is quite dated in some places. Overall good stay, modern rooms and accommodations, comfortable beds, etc. Bar/restaurant on-site, did not eat but food looked good, drinks at the bar on the lite side of the pour but that is to be expected in a hotel.
This is an older hotel. We were upgraded to a king room. The decor was not especially attractive, but the room was very spacious. There was an armchair, ottoman and lamp that was perfect for reading although you couldn't use the chair to watch TV because of its position in the room. To watch TV, you had to use the bed or pull out the desk chair. There was a microwave, mini fridge w/freezer compartment and a desk. There were also several drawers below the microwave. There were lots of outlets in the lamps to charge devices. The bathroom was tiny. The toilet was only about 4 inches from the tub. The shower curtain brushed agains the toilet. However, it was clean and the lighting was exceptional. I didn't have to go by the window to put make-up on, and my husband shaved without a problem. There was no room on the counter top to put anything -- combs, brushes, make-up, etc. However, directly across from the bathroom door was an open closet that had a bench. I put all my stuff on the bench. In addition to the coffee machine in the room (no tea), there was a coffee/tea station down the hall which always seemed to be available. The hotel was right across the street from a Price Chopper supermarket which was very convenient. Next door to the hotel is a golf course where they allow you to run on the golf paths. The bed was very comfortable. I slept great all three nights. One unusual feature of the bed: it was exceptionally high. If I had a step stool, I would have used it. We would definitely stay here again when visiting relatives in Waddington.
Conveniently located. Super clean rooms with an amazingly courteous staff. The grounds are beautiful... Restaurant and bar had great food. I would stay here again in a heartbeat! Price of room was reasonable and I felt like a valued guest! What more can you ask for?
The hotel was spotless and every staff person was very welcoming/accommodating. Layout is a little confusing, and I would have liked to bring my dog, but do appreciate the cleaner smell of a pet-free facility. My only real complaint is that there is no lobby sitting area. We were there with a group of other parents while our kids attended basketball camp at St. Lawrence University, and there was no place inside where we could sit and visit with the drinks and snacks we'd already brought from home. The restaurant/lounge is very nice, but buying from the bar can get expensive. There is a nice outdoor gated area near the pool if the nights are dry/warm, but that may close at 10 with the pool. (?) We will definitely stay again.
This hotel is just fantastic! It has beautiful, functional and comfortable rooms, and tons of wonderful features such as a restaurant with a chef, a tavern, a terrific fitness center, proximity to a golf course, ease of location - it has everything you could hope for at affordable rates! The staff takes pride in their work and facility. Can't say enough good things!
Very pleasant staff, clean rooms, comfortable beds. I just hate that the town is dull. But then again this is a small town so there isn't much to do, see or go. But it is very convenient if you kid attends the nearby colleges.
We have stayed at the Best Western in Canton NY many times however was very disappointed in the service and kitchen for breakfast this time. If they could have been any slower they would have been stopped. Took 25 minutes for them to take our order and another 25 minutes to get the food. Everyone in the place was complaining getting up out of their seats looking for their waitress or help from anyone. Our waitress was pleasant however continued to say sorry. We were close to missing our sons senior award ceremony as they were so behind. Not to mention there was not many tables for 4 waitresses to handle. The waitress was rattled, the food was cold, the apple juice was watered down. I'm glad my son is graduating this year and never have to return to this place as the bar was a cluster f... just allow 1 1/2 hours for breakfast, longer than I have ever spent in the Caribbean which has a tendency to be extremely slow
The hotel was clean and comfortable. The ammities were better than expected! The fitness room was newly refurbished and the pool and hottub were clean and well maintained. We even were able to enjoy use of the sauna!! My only minor complaint is the cost of the food and beverages in the lounge and restaurant. A discount should be offered to patrons of the hotel. I will stay at this hotel again!
The hotel was clean and the staff was kind and very helpful. I would stay at this hotel again next year when making our annual trip to this area. Having a restaurant within the hotel was so convenient and the service and food were top notch.
Great place to stay while visiting St. Lawrence University. The rooms are comfortable (great night's sleep), fitness center is nice; as well as the pool and hot tub. The restaurant was also very good and reasonable. Staff very friendly; highly recommend!
Just a one night stay for me. Front desk attendant was friendly. Room was definitely small. However, room was clean, hot water in the shower, and stable internet. I would stay again. There is a restaurant on-site, however, I chose Dunkin Donuts across the street.
I've stayed at this hotel twice now. It's just a stone's throw away from St. Lawrence University, where our son will be attending college. The rooms are smaller than average--at least ours have been. That really wasn't a big surprise. Such is often the case with older, more dated hotels. They are able to redecorate but rarely reconstruct. At this hotel even having been "updated" there was a faint "old" smell in the hallways where our rooms were located on both visits. But it's not so bad as to be a "deal breaker." Just know that with more than two people in a double room, you will find yourself literally crawling over each other. The bathrooms are so small there is little room for a cosmetic or travel kit to even sit on the counter. And there are no proper closets. The rooms have small ledges which are maybe a foot deep on which to sit your bags, a couple of shelves and a closet rod less than a yard long. Nevertheless, the rooms are clean and the actual furnishings are relatively up to date. The food and service in the restaurant are good. Overall our first stay was okay. It was, again, convenient. Our most recent stay, however, was disappointing. Housekeeping did not clean our room. We left the room before noon and spent the entire day at SLU. We returned in the evening to the room just as we left it. When I complained and suggested that we should be comped in some way, they gave us towels and was told that the manager who could actually respond to my complaint wouldn't be in until the next morning. The next morning came and the manager was not there. I was told that she was traveling and had been delayed due to weather and that I could leave (it was our checkout day) and she would contact me. That was a Sunday morning. Monday came. No contact. I telephoned in the evening. No manager. It's Tuesday morning and not a word. I've not been contacted. If I were to stay here again, it would simply be because it is the most convenient option (not much to choose from in a lovely, but small town like Canton) and not because it excels in comfort or in actual customer service. Unless you are traveling alone, in the end it may be worth a few extra miles to Potsdam for less cramped accommodations, more options and, possibly, better response to customer concerns. If you're already in a cramped room, it could at least be cleaned. If it isn't, someone on site should at least be empowered to respond appropriately within 48 hours. That really isn't a lot to ask when you are spending your money. I've just become aware of the University Suites Hotel in Canton. I don't think it has a restaurant, but that isn't a deal breaker for me. Can always grab a bite at the Best Western Restaurant but lodge elsewhere. I will try the University Suites next time if rooms are available.
Pool, Hot tub, restaurant and bar. Friendly staff in every department. Love this hotel. You'll travel far from this hotel to find a comparable stay. Highly recommend this Best Western to all, from Solo to large family or groups.
Booked this place because they had EV charging which worked great but everything else was great as well, the pool and hot tub were great with the freezing weather! Room was kinda small as was the bathroom but everything worked fine and it was clean!
Stay was great.. Quick breakfast till everyone was up very good. Breakfast in restaurant nice, they were dealing with a large group before us but they provided for our family of 9. Only down fall, beds are very high off of the floor.
As usual, a great experience staying at Best Western. Friendly and courteous staff, excellent facilities. Rooms are a little on the small side (space between bed and desk leaves is a little tight for spending hours working at the desk), but it's a fair trade as what sleep I had time for was the sleep of the dead. When I go back to the Canton/Potsdam area, I will definitely book here again.
We travelled to Canton to take in a few St. Lawrence hockey games and the location is ideal. Clean, spacious rooms. One very tiny negative would be that the bathroom was on the small side. But the bed was so amazingly comfortable! Seriously, best bed ever. Be sure to eat at their restaurant. Food was delicious.
The staff was great. I had planned on staying two nights and driving back to the airport in the morning but the forecast called for heavy snow between there and the airport. The staff was very helpful and changing my reservation from that hotel to another Best Western at the airport.
Stayed here with a youth hockey team. Rate was pretty decent. Could hear doors closing all around, but not much else. Good fan in bathroom. Temp in room was easily controlled - not too hot and dry or cold. Kids enjoyed pool. Lounge was good and had locals to tell stories.
The hotel has character and a great staff. The hotel's location on the edge of a nice golf course and beautiful campus of St Lawrence University add to the experience. In my opinion this hotel is the best option in this region.
Front desk, lounge, security and housekeeping all rude and quite miserable. Room not cleaned or restocked after 2 nights-front desk offered no explanation why-only asked if it really needed to be cleaned?!?! One treadmill out of three in working order. Room very, very dry and therefore uncomfortable.
Our dinner took 2 hours to be prepared for 6 people! The manager took $6 off the bill. And offered nothing else as we had kids waiting to be fed. The kids enjoyed the pool and that was a nice facility. The bathroom was tiny and you can barely shut the door.
I have had my fairs there for the last 10 yrs, and it just gets better every year. The help has has improved immensely and so has the food...Most of us stay there and enjoy the services they offer. I will continue having there. I wouldn't have it in any other place. I highly recommend this Best Western...
I was charged $199 US ($291 CDN) for a one night stay......not worth the cost. Several families stayed from a minor hockey team, and the hotel was full. This is an average hotel, so they should never be charging $200 per night.
The hotel is very clean, current decor, comfortable and welcoming. Staff are very helpful and friendly. The bar is a nice area, however they only had one bartender working the night of a school booster club function after a hockey game, which made it very slow for getting drinks. Not complaining, we had a great time. Great location. Lot's of parking
This is a amazing restful place after a very long day traveling for work in the North Country of NY. I have stayed here every 2 weeks for the passed 12 years. Home sweet home . Has everything. One of the best places in the North of NY! I can stay anywhere. But this is my favorite.
Love this hotel,It is very well located to all the amenities of the town of Canton. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are nice and the pool is really a plus. The only negative comment I would have for the property is the Fitness center, the weight machine has been there for 20 years and is very tired...doesn't work that well and should be replaced. Some free weights are needed as well. That being said, the hotel and property is very comfortable and clean.
Have stayed at this hotel (it is my preferred hotel in the area) several times because my daughter is attending college in this area. Very clean rooms and staff is always very helpful. Have used the fitness center, small but very clean. Attached restaurant is pricey but service was very good and food was delicious.
Admittedly, there are only two hotels we know of there, but have been staying at BW/Univ Inn for the past 4 years and will for the next three as we have 2 children enrolled at St Lawrence Univ and BW is the most convenient to the University. But very friendly staff, on-site restaurant, lounge, fitness and pool make it a good value.
As always -had a great stay. Hotel is very clean & updated. Have stayed here for business for many years. Always good service. Bar/restaurant always provides good service & food. Never had an issue. Would definitely recommend!
Over the weekend, my husband and I stayed here while visiting our daughter at SLU. We have stayed numerous times as this is one of the best (and only) full service hotels in the area. Front desk is always exceptional during check in and just as great checking out. We ate dinner in the lounge on the extremely busy Saturday night. For being so packed, the server was quick to greet us, get our orders and cocktails. She was very friendly and with such a busy atmosphere she managed to keep a smile on her face all night long. She didn't rush us, let us relax, and checked on us with perfect timing. All around it was a great weekend and will be back soon.
Stayed here for a weekend in September 2017. My son is a student at SUNY Potsdam. We were pleasantly surprised at this beautiful hotel in a small town. We had late night drinks and food at the bar/restaurant in the hotel, great menu, great drink prices, friendly waitress. Not too far from Potsdam and also close to Colton where we went for a hike.
This hotel has it all for Canton, NY area. With its 24 hour fitness center, sauna, clean pool, quiet comfortable sleep, clean room, good food and super friendly staff and a golf course, I can not imagine any hotel in the area even coming close to it. I have no reason to stay there again until next year, but with out a doubt, I will be staying at this hotel.
Staff at front desk are so helpful and go out of their way to accommodate you! Full service hotel with nice restaurant and Lounge also for a burger and cocktail. etc. golf course and spa... Beds are small and high off the floor which seems odd but we were able to also get a rollaway bed for another person without any difficulty. Main restaurant has a very nice view of the golf course... relaxing place to enjoy dinner.
My wife and I stayed at this hotel during a brief trip to Canton to visit family in the area. Although we found the hotel to be clean and pleasent, we found the rooms to be exceptionally small, including the bathrooms. Additionally, the beds we're so high, you almost needed the assistance of a Sherpa Guide as you climbed into bed. On the upside, the hotel has a lounge/bar, a full restaurant an indoor swimming pool with a hot tub. Also, an 18 hole golf course.
My wife and I had a wonderful three day stay at the Best Western St. Lawrence University campus with friends. The staff was courteous and professional and the facilities were excellent? We plan to return in the near future!
Very clean and comfortable accommodations. Excellent fitness center, indoor pool and hot tub. Convenient to a great golf course. The lounge is a nice place to have a beverage and dinner. The entire staff was very professional and friendly. I have been staying here annually for 30 years. It feels like home.
The hotel was average. It had a restaurant and lounge with decent food. The rooms were a little on the small side but were clean and comfortable. There was nothing spectacular about the hotel, but no negatives as well. Just a nice average hotel.
Convenient and good services, had no problem checking in, check out was quick, and restaurant hours and menu selection was adequate. The location was convenient for my business needs. Parking was convenient and area services are close by.
It was a nice room and comfortable. Wedding room was nice and hall for dinnner was pretty. Good dinners at the wedding too. Wifi was choppy went in and out a bunch during the day/night.. it was fine for the reason we came up. Good time
Hotel looks nice, but lobby is cramped. No continental breakfast, as they'd prefer you spend big money at their restaurant. Rooms were clean, but small, and the bathrooms are tiny. Pillow case was dirty, and the hide-a-bed was not made up with sheets, even though we arranged for 3 guests in the room. Prices are very high in this area for what they offer and the surrounding area, making for a tough pill to swallow for value.
We stayed here the evening after freshman move-in day at Clarkson. Needless to say we were a little stressed out and very tired. Everyone was very friendly, the bed was very comfortable, everything in the room worked well and the windows opened wide, which was a wonderful bonus. We will certainly stay here again.
This hotel is a nice place to stay, especially if you are visiting SLU. It is within walking distance to the university, and the "Village of Canton." There is a convenient sidewalk right outside the hotel that you can travel on to get to the school and shops/ eateries on Main Street. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. I used the gym and restaurant, which were both adequate. I will stay here again, if I visit Canton.
Only bad thing was the beds are set very high, highest I have ever seen. I had 3 older people traveling with me and I had a hard time getting them in bed. Other then that our stay was very enjoyable great staff clean rooms
Had a great stay here. The hotel was very nice and so was the staff. And got a good night sleep. No issues with the room at all. Had many amenities and a beautiful view. Was very clean and pretty hotel. Food was excellent. Only issue was dinner service was slow.
Stayed at this Best Western while dropping my son off at SLU. Couldn't ask for better location right next to campus . Hotel is clean and stafff friendly and helpfull! I will be spending a lot of time here over the next four years.
Great location to school. Just 5 min drive to admissions office. Decent restaurant onsite. Close to grocery store and gas stations. Nice clean rooms. Little noisy in hallways but was quiet before too late.
We were in the area for a weekend event and this was one of the recommended hotels. Check in was smooth and easy, we even asked to see another room when our option was just two double beds however a larger bed and a sofa bed left no room for anything else. I would think that would be our only complaint about this hotel is that 2 double beds is just not enough bed space especially if staying with 2 couples in one room. If they could expand to 2 queens it would be much more adequate. Enough of the bad, lets get to the good. Rooms were nice and clean, and quiet too especially if you left the fan running. AC worked great and the beds were comfortable as well. Bathrooms were pretty standard, but clean and functioned well. We were travelling with our dog and there is good green space around the hotel (that is not part of the golf course) for airing out your pet. The pool/hot tub area is a good size and there is an outdoor patio area with views of the golf course that looked nice as well. We ate breakfast at the hotel two mornings, it is not free but is reasonably priced and has enough options to satisfy almost anyone. We enjoyed our stay and staff were friendly and helpful. Bonus of free wi-fi and many outside access points so your room is never far from where your parked your vehicle.
Stayed at the Best Western in Canton while in town for a wedding. The staff was extremely helpful, the rooms clean and the beds comfortable. Great price and accommodations for a one night stay. Highly recommended!
This is a nice hotel located just a few minutes from SUNY Canton and SUNY Pottsdam. The staff is very helpful and go out of their way to make sure your stay is the best. The restaurant is reasonable and offers a variety of options and decent prices. Portion were of a nice size too. My room was clean and there is a refrigerator and microwave in the room as well. There is a business center and a pool. I enjoyed my stay and will stay there again.
My family and I stayed a night here while my daughter was taking her orientation at a nearby college. At first walk in we noticed the room was a little small but very nicely decorated. The pool and spa are extremely large, larger than most hotels and the food was very good with a great selection on the menu. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well. We would definitely recommend this hotel for a wonderful stay!
Great food in restaurant--much better than expected and pleasant surprise. Use local syrup and other quality ingredients and enjoyed our room service breakfast as well. Very quick to respond to requests and awesome chocolate chip cookies in lobby too. Average to poor quality of mixed drinks (and expensive esp. for area) and service at bar, and average room, decor, etc. Tiniest hotel bathroom in the world?Would nonetheless recommend given options in area and quality aspects compensating for lesser ones.
check in help was a little unprofessional but the stay at the hotel was nice and the accommodations were great for the business trip I was on. The food here was good and the lounge and dining room service was very good. My boss wants to stay here again when we are up here in northern New York for business.
It was a bit expensive for a small room on the off-season. The room was small but the bathroom was tiny. The mattress was comfortable but unusually tall. I had no issue but if you have small children, elderly, or someone with a disability it could be difficult to get into bed. Over-all I would say this is probably the best place close to Canton NY to stay at.
Nice hotel close to Canton and St. Lawrence University. Golf course attached. Nice lounge and bar area. Nice pool, hot tub and fitness area. All staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. I will definitely look to stay here on my trips to Canton over the next 4 years.
Good clean place with great food, and great service. Needed a place to stay for hoops tourney at St. Lawrence, and it is perfect. Great breakfast. Great bar and food. Ann Marie and Robyn were very nice in the lounge.
We stayed at the Best Western the week-end of July 1, 2017. We stayed in the King Executive room. It was a wonderful week-end. We ate our meals in the restaurant, had drinks in their lounge and everything was excellent. We also used the hot tub and swimming pool which were the best. We had a patio overlooking the golf course. Room service was wonderful. Bathroom was small but was the only complaint I could think of. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Will be staying there again and this was not our first time with them either. It just keeps getting better.
We just needed a place to stay en route, and this one seemed to fit the bill in terms of price and TripAdvisor ratings. Overall, not a bad place - the room was clean and reasonably comfortable. Two things knocked it down to four stars. We were in room 145, and all through the night, I was awoken by some cycling mechanical noise, which turned out to be in the wall next to our window (probably some sort of ventilation). However, far more annoying was trying to get breakfast the next morning. I had chosen this hotel in part because it had a restaurant that served breakfast, and I absolutely need a super-high protein, very low carb breakfast each day (e.g., 3 egg omelette). When we went down for breakfast at about 8:30, the hostess told us that there would likely be a long wait before we got our food because they were understaffed, and tables of 12, 8, and 6 had just sat down (it's worth noting that the restaurant was definitely less than 50% full). We asked for suggestions for other options, and the hostess and a waitress walking by offered two. We went off in search of these two places, only to find that one was closed (permanently?) and the other couldn't be found. So 30 minutes later we found ourselves back at the hotel, preparing ourselves for whatever wait was necessary to get food. On the plus side, the front desk person (who I had complained to on our way out) saw us come back and graciously offered us complimentary breakfasts for our trouble; that's why the place gets 4 stars and not several stars less. And the breakfasts were pretty decent (although don't bother with the Canadian bacon - each of the two pieces was about the size of a silver dollar). It's worth noting that if you can do Dunkin Donuts for breakfast, there's one of those right across the street. So all in all, not a bad hotel, but just not a great experience. And they seem to care about making things right.
This is a nice BW hotel. Visited on a beautiful, sunny spring weekend for grandson's high school graduation/party. Easy hotel to find and close proximity to everything in area. Great rooms - clean and quiet. Visited pool and lounge, both very nice. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Would suggest faster service at breakfast, tho - sloowwww.
have never had a bad stay at this Best Western. Facility is clean, staff very courteous, nice lounge. make sure to grab a couple chocolate chip cookies at check-in - delicious etc... is that 200 yet????????
Clean, extremely accommodating. Nephew had his wedding here and it was so magical. The food is excellent. Accommodations were very comfortable. Free Wi-Fi, nice pool, hot tub, golf. Such a nice place to stay
Great hotel with awesome staff staff went out of their way to make sure my stay was trouble free. The hotel was clean and the internet works great. There is even an on-site restaurant. Many of the locals even suggested eating lunch at that restaurant.
We had a wonderful time at the Best Western Canton. We have been going there for over 20 years for our annual Golf Weekend and this year it was the best ever. The hotel is lovely and very friendly. We look forward to returning.
Arrive Friday and don't have to get in your car until Sunday. Great weekend. Other than the slow service at breakfast, the staff is very friendly and helpful. This is an annual trip and the venue is perfect for golfing, eating and socializing.
Very good location and our experience was excellent for our weekend getaway for golf. Staff was professional and very polite. Would have liked breakfast to be included with our stay. Food was very good at the restaurant and bar. Food and beverages were reasonable price. Would recommend this hotel for a great golfing experience.
Excellent stay at Best Western University Inn...good food, extremely comfortable beds, nice pool. The area has lots of colleges and universities, so there are things to see and do. We were fortunate to have perfect weather also.
The room was clean (a small but important thing). The bed was comfortable (if not a bit too high). The staff was very friendly. We had one meal at the restaurant, breakfast. No complaints. We both enjoyed relaxing in the indoor pool and hot tub.
This location has received a lot of upgrades to building and rooms over the past years. A lot of new decor in rooms. Beds are new and a little on the soft side for those who like firm. Restaurant is good and is one of the few in area if you want a non chain meal. Place is very clean, lounge is good and staff is very friendly and helpful. Worth a stay if you have to stay in canton.
Our family of four stayed here for two nights and were very impressed with the cleanliness of the room. All hotel staff were friendly and helpful. An added bonus was the free Wi-fi, refrigerator, and coffee maker.
We went for a one night stay and we really enjoyed the spacious area . The staff are really smiling and exceptional service. The food at the restaurant is very plain. We were very satisfied of our stay
I stayed here on business and it was very clean, neat and the staff were extremely accommodating. There is a nice lounge / bar and a restaurant on site with a decent menu. I did not experience anything negative to report. Would highly recommend it.
Recently spent three nights here and it was everything you could ask for. The staff were friendly and super accommodating. The rooms were nice, clean and quiet. We also ate dinner at the restaurant. It was a very good meal and the service was terrific. We also attended a reception at the banquet facilities. The facilities were outstanding and the staff was fantastic.
I have used this hotel for 4 years now. My son went to one of the colleges in the area. I have seen some reviews that want to make this hotel seem like a small hotel in a small town. It's not! The area has a lot of thing to do, you just have to look around. Now for the hotel, it is a beautiful, upscale hotel for a great price! They have made upgrades that are beautiful. The rooms are clean and comfortable, you have free wifi,A/C, TV ,room service etc. you have a golf course next door, restaurant and pub next door and Canada 20 -25 minutes away. Besides the local attractions. The staff actually remember you, what? Yes they remember you. They go out of their way to make you feel welcomed and comfortable. The restaurant next store is unbelievable. The food is outrageous. They have a great pub area that is always busy. But here's the unusual thing, you don't have to wait long for a table. I had 16 people come up for the graduatio. We had a beautiful luncheon. You know the food is great when during the main meal no one is talking because everyone is eating! My family came from Florida, California,Connecticut ,NYC and Long Island. They all loved this place. We are going back so we can stay here so we can all visit Canada. And it's not that far away, fly into Syracuse airport, rent a car and in 2 hours you are there. That's less time than driving to work on the LIE. Again just stay here! You are not going to find a better place to stay.
We have stayed at this hotel in the past, and the change it went through for renovation was incredible. We loved the bed. It was very comfortable. The staff was very gracious and professional. We highly recommend staying here.
Nice clean accommodations, very comfortable beds, staff warm, friendly & extremely helpful. Restaurant had a beautiful view of golf course, food was delicious, perfect temperature & presentation, portions were generous. Location was in the center of everything and parking was never a problem. Checkin & checkout fast and easy. Highly recommend
The hotel was very nice, the rooms were clean. The hotel staff was very friendly. We were a bit disappointed with the WiFi-which was nonexistent along with the cell phone service. We swam in the pool which was nice and warm, also very clean. Good hotel for the $$$$
We called this hotel after the one we had booked was far below our expectations. Wendi was very pleasant, understood our situation and went above to secure us a room. The pool and hot tub were a treat after a long drive. They went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. Will stay again in the future, was there to pick son up from college and they had special rates for this.
It really isn't the guests fault that you know you are having a lunch party of over 20 people but don't staff for it ? Sorry slow service doesn't make for happy lunch crowd Maybe you need to limit the menu or staff more help
This is a very nice hotel. Clean rooms, courteous staff and very convenient for visiting SLU. A little pricey, but you are paying for premium location adjacent to SLU. Popcorn in the lounge is a nice treat. Overall a nice place to stay.
When staying in this part of New York you cannot find a nicer hotel. If you like golf it is on their site. They have a great restaurant and bar. Indoor pool and gym facilities. Plenty of places to ear nearby and any services you would need.
We live in NC and just made our first trip to a Canton, NY - lovely historic town in the North Country. Our 2 night stay at BW University Inn was great and we would definitely stay here again. The hotel is clean, attractive and well maintained. Staff are kind, helpful and professional. The rooms are quite nice. We had a room (142) on the first floor with a pretty view overlooking the golf course. Our room was well appointed, the beds were very comfortable, the bathroom was clean. The workout facilities were surprisingly nice - full gym, great equipment, spacious and well designed. We didn't have a chance to make use of the dining facilities, though we read that the food is excellent. Looking forward to our next stay.
I was here for two nights. The first night there was a dinner served for the conference I was attending. The food was very good. The hotel room had two double beds. The bed were comfortable but as others have stated they were very high. A child could have difficulty getting on and off the bed. I did not like the pillows that were in the room. Also, when the person in the room above me had a shower – the sound from the water pipes was very loud in my room. Also, I had to get them to program my room key 3 times before it would open the room door and for some reason, the bathroom did not contain any Kleenex tissues. Overall, the room was clean and comfortable – although with 2 double beds it was a bit tight. If I am ever in Canton NY again, I will most likely stay here.
Great visit with our son. The Best Western is not too far from his college or other available entertainment in town. The pool and hot tub were enjoyed by our daughter. We are planning to stay the next time we have a college visit!!
I stayed here while on a business trip. Was a bit noisy in the hallways during the day however it did quiet down. The restaurant on premises was an added bonus. Excellent service and great food. The people at the front desk were extremely polite and friendly!
Ok limited hotels in the area so went to BW again and was impressed. Spent time in pool hot tub sauna all very clean and modern. Very comfy beds. Great staff. Not the cheapest and paid more than should have but minimal competition in that area allows higher room rates. Enjoyed stay. Will stay here again as ten minutes to CU.
If you are travelling to visit one of the schools in Canton, this is the right place. Overall, the rooms are very organized and clean. It has a good size fitness area, a swimming pool and sauna. It also has a restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can also order room service. My criticism are as follows: a) the beds are too high; b) the standard soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion are too small and watery (bring your own); c) restaurant food is good but service is a bit slow. D) Most importantly, upon check in, I was told that card will be held for a $25 incidental fee. I checked with my girlfriend who stayed at this Inn last October 2016 and she told me that this did not happen to her. At check-out and I was at the front desk to do my check-out, the front desk personnel failed to provide me with my end of stay statement of charges. I had to call them and request to send it to me by email for which they had promised that they will do. Despite of the promise, I did not receive an email from them. I had to keep checking my credit card charges to ensure that they only charged me for the meal that I signed to my room. So beware of the incidentally "Incidental Fees".
Lovely room, great staff, and very pleasant pool room overlooking the golf course. On a prior visit, I had the entire pool room to myself. Very clean rooms. Beds are exceptionally comfortable. Canton does not have many restaurants, so the hotel restaurant is really vital. If I had one complaint it would be to step up the quality. The two meals I had were okay, but just okay, nothing to brag about.
Really enjoyed my stay, as usual. It is really worth the expense for the quality of the Hotel, Staff and the proximity of the onsite restaurant and lounge/bar. I highly recommend staying here when in the Canton or Potsdam NY area
Fantastic local place to stay in the Canton area. Amenities are wonderful and rooms pleasantly appointed and super comfortable. Food at Lounge and Restaurant is excellent. The staff is always friendly and courteous and makes the stays that much more enjoyable!
As usual, great accommodations! Friendly helpful staff! Clean well updated rooms! A Great restaurant, and amenities, Great pool! We stay here when visiting family nearby. I would definitely stay again!
Everything was excellent during my stay at the Best Western. The staff are extremely helpful and the rooms are perfect. The Best Western was quiet, clean, well maintained and I slept great! I've been to other hotels in the area, this was by far the best rate/room and amenities by far.
This is the 10th issue for us at this hotel. Always told ' it won't happen again' but it does and this time we were told We could change the sheets! Unbelievable! They obviously do not care or it would not continue. Pubic hair, urine drops, stains and feces are the wonderful gifts in the bed. After a long drive the last thing you want is to deal with is this.If it weren't for company using this hotel- which may change, we would never stay here. It looks nice but beware if you mind sleeping in sheets others did the night before.
Stayed one night and requested a late checkout...they were accommodating. Pool was nice and area clean. Had breakfast in restaurant...was ok, but it was nearly 11 and they were changing over for lunch. Room was clean and I really couldn't ask for much more. Ask about discount rates and check your bill before you leave. They overcharged me, but fixed it right away. I would stay again.
The catering services and banquet room were excellent. However this does not trickle to the guest services in the hotel and restaurant. The room we stayed in was dirty. The windows were filmy and had specks of dirt on them. The lamps and night stands were dusty and there were fingerprints all over the desk. The top shelf in the closet had a thick layer of dust on that too. We put our clothes there and had to shake them out whenever we took something off. The wait staff in the restaurant rushed us through our dinner. It was not as leisurely as it should have been. We had plenty of time before it closed for the evening. The front desk staff had issues with the billing system. I was preauthorized for my room bill on check in.. then I was preauthroized again when I checked out therefore they were trying to double charge me and would have if my bank did not alert me to the issue. It took me calling corporate to get it ironed out. It was fixed.. but essentially it ruined our very brief one day honeymoon.
It is always clean and comfortable and the staff goes out of their way to be both helpful and pleasant. They make you feel welcome and truely interested in helping you. They are never too busy to be pleasant. I have always been happy to stay there when there is availability.
The price of this hotel compared to other especially in larger cities is way over priced for what you get. The room was so small with to double beds in it that there was less then 30in around any fixture and wall to move. Bathroom was so small when close shower curtain it and to overlap the toilet to close. Next was the dirtiness of the room. Makeup on pillow cases, a blanket covered in longhair and an odor that is hard to explain.
We have stayed here in the past and did again 10/7/2016 and will stay in the future. Very satisfied with every thing this Hotel has to offer. Room was very clean and comfortable, and the Staff was very friendly and accommodating. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to Family and Friends.
Had a wonderful experience from booking, to late check in, to cleanliness of my room. The hotel has been refurbished and is terrific. It will be my go to spot the next time we go to visit our son at St. Lawrence Thanks for a great stay.
Cannot say enough about this hotel. It's friendly, homey and overall really a great value. It's clean and decorated very nice. Highly recommend- the staff was great. Needed a last minute item I had forgotten and I called the front desk and within 3 minutes they delivered the item
This is our preferred hotel when visiting family in Canton, NY. Rooms have always been clean, quiet and comfortable. The staff is very friendly, and the hotel is conveniently located close to the center of town and St. Lawrence University. The hotel has a nice restaurant with good food, as well as a great bar/lounge, with a wide selection of great beers on tap (including local breweries). I will definitely continue to return to this hotel on future visits.
This hotel is especially nice for family members of Canton residents, offering a discount for them. It also has spacious, clean rooms, a good restaurant (used by locals, we hear), is next to a golf course and has fitness and spa facilities. Our only complaint is that the beds in guest rooms are really high--for anyone shortish (as I am) it's necessary either to try out pole-vaulting talents or request a stepstool (I chose the latter). The staff will also remove the frame upon request, but this wouldn't be necessary with regular height beds), There is no free breakfast, but the restaurant that is part of the inn offers very tasty and reasonably priced meals with attentive service. I'd recommend the hotel but warn that if you're not tall, you ask in advance for bed modifications.
hotel was very clean and room was very comfortable. firm beds! a rare find! restaurant on premises is convenient though I did not eat there this time. will definitely rebook in the future, as I come to the area several times a year
Friendliness ends at the front (desk & restaurant). We checked-in and went to our room. In the hallway we passed housekeeping. I had to maneuver my way around their cart. I smiled and apologized as I did so. My apology was received with a blank stare and no attempt to move the cart. The following day, we left our room between 10:30 and 11:30, came back around 5:30 to a messy room. We did not leave our "do not disturb" sign out, so I'm not sure why the room wasn't cleaned. I contacted the front desk, but the woman had just started her shift, so she didn't know why the room wasn't cleaned either. I requested towels, which she gladly brought over, but then realized the garbage needed changing as well. I called the front desk to see if there was someone on staff to pick up the garbage. Unfortunately, there wasn't. Instead, I was brought an oversized garbage bag to empty the garbage into. Upon check-out, I mentioned that our room wasn't cleaned the day before. I was told it's been noted and handed my receipt. Overall, I did not feel as I was treated as a valued guest.
The BW Hotel was an excellent choice for my family. The hotel is very close to St. Lawrence University Campus, which is a plus for me. The decor has changed in a wonderful way. It was wonderful to see the art on the walls of St. Lawrence University.
Good hotel. As a rewards member I have received a cookie and a water bottle on several occasions. The beds are very comfortable, and the internet works well. I appreciate that the rooms are clean. Very relaxing.
I thought the hotel was excellent. I had called in that I would be checking in late. Upon check in the woman was very helpful, it was speedy and I received an excellent room. I ate at the onsite restaurant, The food was well prepared and the staff were attentive. Overall, my expectations of this hotel were exceeded.
Great Hotel, clean and close to Canton and St. Lawrence Colleges. The only downside, the beds are a little hard but the cool thing about the pillows...there are soft, medium and firm on each bed...something for everyone. Pizza shop/coffee and grocery store and gas are across the street. We already rebooked this hotel for parents weekend!
I have been coming here for 4 years. I bring my son back to college. I would always try to book early because they fill up fast. It is a wonderful place to stay. They have made wonderful up grades. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. The rooms are gorgeous ! And the beds are so so comfortable that as soon as you lie down your asleep. For coffee lovers there is always fresh coffee! The pool is wonderfully refreshing and their work out area is well equipped . The lounge area is my favorite place. It's inviting and comfortable. The food is outrageous !!!!! Delicious !!!!! On this trip I booked a luncheon for my son's College graduation. My family is coming from different states. The rooms they offered and choices of menus was great. And the price was outstanding . I wish I could mention everyone's name here but I don't know them all. Kathy, Joey,Alex,Lauren all have made this trip wonderful. All the employees here do a fantastic job. I have every intention of coming back after my son graduates. I want to take a vacation for myself.
This Best Western is locked in the past. The bed was comfortable, but the room, overall, was quite small and, in the halls, I felt like we had gone back to the '70s. Too bad, as it is conveniently located in a busy college town.
The hotel was clean but everything was decidedly average. The room was small, and the bathroom in particular was unaccommodating. Very little counter space and the toilet was scrunched up next to the sink. The price was right, so this would be fine for someone traveling alone or maybe even a couple. For three people, it was way too restrictive. Also seemed strange that breakfast wasn't included in the rate.
Staff were professional and great help. I had a wonderful stay. The rooms were beautiful. The view was great. The area was quiet and relaxing. I sat in the sauna for an hr and it felt wonderful after a long night of dancing
The best hotel in town; as the saying goes. Convenient to the campus. Good sized rooms. Could use hair dryer in the bathroom, which is conspicuously absent. This is a common amenity for this level of hotel/motel. Other than this small shortcoming, the rooms are very good. A/C will freeze you out if you want. The bedding was outstanding. What you would expect in the very best hotels.
I'm staying here for the third time. First last August, then March 2016 and then August 2016. My third stay however made me realise something about this inn. They're welcoming and all, however they lack a bell boy. That means you need to bring all your heavy luggage all on your own after a long long journey. Also, this time their staff was inexperienced and staff had just started working, thus, there was delay in everything. The rooms have been updated and look quite nice. However, I'll suggest them to atleast keep an electric racket to kill the flies in their restaurant which disturb me when I'm eating food. Also, it's time they keep umbrellas (if it rains anyday-like today), we had to cancel plans because they didn't have umbrellas and we had to walk. Plus, they should think of moving their lobby somewhere else, get rid of the old carpet in the halls, update their bar. Make it new, modern, breathtaking. It's time!!! Thank you.
The scenery surrounding the hotel is beautiful! Rooms, lobby and hallways of the hotel are clean and pleasant. The rooms are nicely designed and decorated and the beds are extremely comfortable. The hotel staff was so friendly! They went out of their way to make my stay enjoyable.
It was a terrific stay. The hotel was lovely - the course was great and the food in the bar area was excellent. The pool area and the gym is a real bonus - and so nice and clean. We loved sitting on the deck too.
We loved this place! Indoor & outdoor pool area! Many years ago we made an attempt at staying at a Best Western in a different small town. The property, room, bed, and even the bathroom, along with other clientele were so disappointing, we left the hotel without staying, and gave up on the brand. Another small town, looking for a decent place, and I was surprised to see the high ratings on Trip Advisor for this property. They were right! It was recently renovated which is almost always a plus! There are not a lot of choices here, plus it's a university town, which made me keep coming back to it when I was looking for a nice place to stay in the area. I am glad I did! We loved it!
the hotel was very close to suny canton and clarkson university as well as suny potsdam ..we had the breakfast plan and it was awesome ...full breakfast and the staff was so nice ....clean rooms ...would come again
This hotel has a lot to offer. It is located in a very nice area convenient for restaurants offsite of you can just stay there. The rooms were spacious and very nice. The hotel staff was nothing but friendly and helpful. My first experience with this chain but will now try to use when I travel for business.
Bed was soft and cozy. Room was a clean, new and good size but the bathroom was small with that curved shower bar to give you more room in there. Staff was nice. The fitness area was clean and seemed new. I tried the gym -- nice cardio machines, water cooler, towels, mat and weight machine. The sauna was in the restroom and seemed brand new. The pool was the same. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant needed some help. The service was inattentive and slow. The blueberry pie was a little sweet (and made elsewhere) but the lemon sorbet that came with it cut it nicely. $6 Cobb salad was a little big for a side salad and small for an entree; they should charge more and do more with it. $9 for pie?
This is an excellent hotel to stay at, restaurant is great, food is exceptional and prices are reasonable, rooms are very clean and comfortable, indoor pool and hot tub are great-can't beat it for the price I would highly recommend this hotel, its also very family friendly'''.
This recently renovated hotel is much improved. The rooms are small as our bathrooms. They are very well redone. Comfortable beds if you like them soft which I do. Staff was super nice. Rates are high, but there is no competition in the area. Very nice TV, good size fridge, restaurant on site, Dunkin Dounuts and grocery store and Pizza The Hut right across the street. Beautiful golf course attached to hotel. Pub food was marginal. Full service bar. We asked for a golf course view but received a parking lot view, while 3 other rooms in our party got golf course views and did not ask for them….hotel was not full. At check in we asked for 4 rooms to be connected or near each other, front desk agent told us there were not any twin rooms on our floor, yet we saw several unoccupied doubles on our floor….not sure the rationale used by front desk….
Hotel staff were caring, punctual and respectful. Rooms are comfortable and very clean. Food served at restaurant is flavorful and very appetizing. Their burgers are awesome. You are treated like family, not just a guest. Great job. Location makes it easy to access others areas of city. Only problem, bed was too high off the ground for me.
Average, nothing fancy or stand out, but comfortable. Convenient location, only negative was on this last trip felt restaurant service not as friendly and timely as in the past. I will still stay, but may decide to eat out.
Great stay in every respect. Spent a lot of time there and was very comfortable and treated well. Wait staff was very kind and ready to help. We've used this hotel for a reunion for more that a decade and we've never had an issue.
I was with my colleagues for a conference. If you are short you might need a step ladder to get into the bed. It was clean and tidy. The check in person was very good. She gave excellent directions and helped me find a vintage quilt display in downtown Canton. The restaurant wait staff was less than expected. The food was average. The waitress tried to give me my bill twice.
A nice hotel, with friendly staff and good restaurant, but WiFi was horrible and don't count on using your phone in your room if an AT&T customer, because it won't work. Be prepared to make calls from parking lot.
SLU and Best Western have invested nicely the last few years( fitness center, new entrance, bed upgrades) and it shows. A quality hotel for a reasonable price and so close to campus. Golf course and lounge both in great condition
Everything was perfect from check in to checkout! Clean pool and hot tub, delicious food, friendly staff and beautiful grounds! Even though it was a business trip, it felt like a mini vacation! I'd recommend this hotel to anyone travelling in northern New York. I'll be back later in the year and I will only stay here.
I have enjoyed 2 delicious meals at the Best Western in the last 2 weeks. Dinner was mahi-mahi with a mango salsa, fingerling potatoes and fresh vegetables. We tried 2 desserts, an over the top chocolate cake and a strawberry rhubarb pie. Yum! The meal was really so good. For lunch,I ordered the Spring salad with strawberries and chicken. It was perfectly "dressed" (not swimming in dressing), and the chicken was prepared really well. My husband ordered a combo of the three cheese grilled sandwich and a tomato bisque soup. He enjoyed both very much. The menu is new and offers options at a variety of price points. Our server this time was Robyn. She was attentive, very friendly and really knew the menu. The newly renovated rooms are very comfortable and attractive. The whole place looks great, and Time Warner has fixed the internet/TV issues.
Stayed here while visiting family in Canton. The hotel was convenient, easily accessible, and provided for all our needs. We used the pool, the hot tub, and ate some meals at the restaurant. We were very pleased with our experience.
Most of the people were extremely nice and I appreciate that! I hold nothing against their hospitality. However, there was one fill-in person in the lounge who was very rude, but I believe she is gone. I think the place was just mismanaged. Sometimes it would take hours for food to come out or you would have to wait a long time to get a beverage. The cable tv system was almost minimal due to ongoing negotiations with TWC. The beds are at least 36 inches off the floor and the rooms are very small. I am sure this hotel will get through its' growing pains and come out on top someday. They have potential!
The rooms are small, bathrooms even smaller. The staff is nice and very accommodating. The lounge is fun - this particular weekend the SLU Lacrosse team was doing quite a bit of celebrating. A little loud.
This is a great hotel for anyone planning a golfing vacation in this area. It is located right on the Oliver Apppleton GC adjacent to St Lawrence College and a 5 minute drive from the Partridge Run GC.
The hotel is just ok. Rooms are clean and acceptable. Close to the college for visitors. We stayed here for a sports tournament. We stayed at this hotel and as much as it pains me to say this, the wifi was down the entire time!!! It affected the entire hotel. That is unacceptable.
The place has obviously been redone since I visited 2 years ago. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. Free Wi-Fi, and they were upgrading that while we were there. Full amenities, friendly staff.
The place was well kept and comfortable. I wish I had time to take advantage of the fitness center and pool! The only annoyance was the poor wifi connection. This messed up incoming/outgoing calls and texts that were important during our stay.
good hotel; good dinner and the location was excellent as we played the golf course..no breakfast offered; and the waiter service at dinner was slow; but the food was very good. I did not see points in my account for the stay
It was a pretty basic hotel room. I haven't seen beds that small in awhile. We were there to visit the University in Canton so accommodation wise we weren't expecting anything extravagant. No instructions for the heating system so we kind of froze overnight as we expected to come on intermittently. It was a little disappointing that we were put right next door to a group of hockey players obviously in town for a tournament. The breakfast in the morning was a nice touch.
They have redone the rooms, the lounge, and the outside. Beautiful job. The rooms are beautifully decorated, they are up to date and comfortable. The lounge is incredible. Totally new decor and it looks fantastic. And the food is out of this world. I especially like the French fries served in little frying baskets. And all of the food is delicious. From the oversized sandwiches to the entrees. I had the salmon, with potatoes and vegetables. There was nothing left on my plate All 4 of us relaxed in comfortable chairs and had an exquisite meal. And the deserts are to die for. And best of all are the hotel rates and the price of the food. Unbelievable! What great prices. Will be visiting again in August, October and the following May. It is located about 30 minutes from Canada. It's a great place to stay and to come back to. And there is a pool and gym, computer site with plenty of work stations. Not to mention coffee and tea anytime you want.
This hotel is really good, staff are very friendly and helpful, rooms are clean and comfortable. However, I feel they should include free continental breakfast if you pay more than $168 for just 1 night. There was no phone reception in the room we stayed in, so I had to place my phone on or near the window to receive texts messages and calls. The internet was in and out too but good overall. And I would just ask the hotel make sure every key card is updated/deactivated/activated correctly because a drunk man easily entered our room around 3am even though our door was locked and shut. I believe his key card had access to open our door and his.
Great place to stay when visiting our Clarkson University student. It is down the street from Clarkson. This Hotel was recently renovated. Very clean rooms, comfortable beds and a restaurant overlooking a golf course. We will definately stay here again when visitng our son at school.
The good news is staff was very nice. Room service was great. Food very good. With limited options in town I would prefer breakfast included but does have restaurant on site. Two biggest issues were that the room was tiny. Smallest one I have ever stayed in for comparable hotel. AC also worked poorly and stopped by morning. Room seemed clean but dust evident in ac/ heat unit. When I mentioned unit wasn't working next morning at check out person at desk said they were all being updated.
I had made a mistake with the date in booking my reservation, , and arrived without a reservation, having booked the hotel for the previous week by mistake. Luckily the hotel wasn't full and the staff person at the front desk very kindly offered me a complimentary room since I had paid for a room the prior week and not used it. I was very impressed by that.
Highly recommend this BW if you plan to visit Clarkson University, which is only a 10 minute ride away. Everything was wonderful, comfortable beds, clean room and well priced delicious meals in their restaurant.
A little run down in areas; connected to nice golf course though; friendly helpful staff; shower diverter was broken so could not shower - not enough time for staff to fix on morning of departure - was comped breakfast for two though
This hotel has been updated but the rooms are tiny and breakfast is not included. Because of this I have to rate them average. The lounge/bar is nice and food was good. their fitness center and pool area are very nice.
I was pleasantly surprised with the room decor and comfort! Having the hotel connected to a golf course was a huge plus. The hotel is conveniently located near downtown Canton and near SUNY Canton and St Lawrence University.
We really enjoyed this property. It would be much better if they had a breakfast, but we loved the restaurant and the lounge. The food was very good. They provided a baby crib too which was very helpful
I use this Best Western monthly, when working in the St. Lawrence County area. Between the quality of the room, the pool, and the friendliness and professionalism of the staff, I found it unnecessary to look anywhere else. They will always have my business.
Comfortable rooms with refrigerator and microwave. The fitness room was great with 3 ellipticals, 3 treadmills and a stationary bicycle. Plus a couple of weight machines. Also, a very nice small sauna, one for men and one for women. The pool looked clean, but I did not have time to use it. Great, friendly staff. A very nice hotel at a good price.
There is currently a "DJ Party" going on in the banquet room. The base and music kept me up until after 1am. I believe if you're going to have a DJ party, you should inform your guests that book with you so they can decide if they should book somewhere else. I am not a light sleeper and I was kept up. Very poor business decision. I will NOT be staying here eve again and I am turned off by the best western brand in general. Shameful.
This Best Western was a great place to stay while visiting the area colleges. The room was very clean; the pool, exercise room and spa is brand new; the lounge was a nice place to have a meal -- and not just pub food -- real food like steaks, chicken, fish. Very accommodating staff.
Not a lot to chose from in the Potsdam area so i used points to stay 15 minutes away in Canton. mix up at check in/reservations had them billing my credit card $108 after already using $129 in points to book online through Chase rewards, my conclusion is that i paid $129 through Chase travel partners for which they paid BW only $108...Reviews complained of service and continental breakfast selection...Service was OK, but when i specifically asked about breakfast at check in, I was only told of the 'sit down and order off the menu' option, so I'm not sure if there is any type of breakfast included...regardless, we needed a bed for the night and we would stay there again...
Amanda was great upon check in and address my requests and questions promptly and professionally, kids loved the complementary cookies and coffee and tea. Restaurant had a good variety of selection and food was good
On 5 different occasions the sheets had not been changed! Towels on a couple of times. No one seems to do daily check ups on the cleaning staff here. Each time we received- sorry- but obviously nothing changes. They seem to think if they 'toss' you a coupon for a free drink all is ok! I just don't know what else to say except; book any where else.If this were not a business booking I would never stay here. Hair in the bed, urine on the sheets and toilet.Stains do I need to say more? Grainy tv picture, no HBO as stated....
When reservations were made, I was given a quote for a much less price than I actually was charged, which ended up being about $50 more than quoted. I did not receive a confirmation email to verify price. I also later found out that breakfast is not free, and that I was charged for 4 breakfasts when I didn't even have 4 in my party. I called several times to speak with someone about the charges, however, it is very difficult to get a hold of a manager. I was told I would be reimbursed for breakfast, but the reimbursement was never given. If given the choice, stay at another hotel in area. You will get a much better experience for the price you have to pay.
Recently remodeled room was satisfactory and clean. Rates were way too high. This was the nearest (and only) hotel near what I needed, perhaps that explains why the staff was so nasty. I did notice a hotel being built down the street - if I need to stay in this area again - I hope the new hotel is complete. Pool and hot tub area were a welcome break, the fitness center has lights on a timer which go off after 20 minutes or so, that was irritating as I like to read while walking on the treadmill. Choice of equipment was good and in working order.
Currently under renovations - we were there on a weekend and the place was a little torn up in some spots but no noise. The work they appear to have done so far was excellent. The pool, workout and spa area was among the nicest I have ever seen - we really enjoyed it. There were a few negatives: 1. The bathroom in the room was very small - toilet literally an inch from the shower 2. Then fan in the bathroom sounded like a piston engine - very loud 3 The TV was a little small .. not a big deal but smaller than most With that said, I would stay there again .... Staff was friendly and professional and the place was very quiet!
If you need anything while staying at the hotel good luck on getting any help from the staff they are uptight and rude and are clearly the wrong profession. Don't expect any type of breakfast you are lucky to get coffee that is if you wake up around 9 to 10 am because they don't have anything ready at 6am.
Excellent Staff, comfortable bedding and room, relaxing pool and sauna. Each employee that I spoke to was friendly, helpful and went out of their way to assist in whatever need I had. The current renovations are going make the entire facility look amazing.
Here for a tour of SLU with daughter so we picked the closest place. It was ok. Little complaints, like there was construction we had to walk through to get to our room. There was a dumpster parked right outside our window. The restaurant was freezing at breakfast and closed at dinner. Breakfast food was fine though. If our daughter goes to SLU we will experiment with other places to stay if possible.
I aways stay at the Best Western in Canton NY when I am that way for business. I have stayed at a couple before in the area. But the hospitality and and atmospher is the best there. It is like they go out of their way to make sure you smile when you walk in and out. They treat everyone the same. The food is always good and trust me I have had almost everything on the menu. My burgers and steak have always been at the perfect temp that i ask for. The gym has the right equipment and is a private feel. I have always had a very clean room and a great night sleep. The beds are comfy and it has always been quite. I recomend it to everyone. I have to say to being so close to canada the other hotels you get bad internet and very bad phone service. But never a problem at the Best Western in Canton.
clean convienent lots of parking Most Best westerns i've encountered have free breakfast but this one does not. It does have a restaurant in the building although dinner was not great. Reservation was made last minute and the price was very good.
I occasionally get to Canton to work with folks at St. Lawrence University. Because the University owns the property, I have to stay at this hotel. The rooms are small and cramped with an especially small bathroom (and a toilet of the style used in public restrooms!). Although the beds are fairly comfortable, albeit on the firm side, the furnishings are very old and tired. The rooms seem fairly clean but smell old. They're in the process of updating the rooms, so we'll see whether the improvements may make the high price a bit more reasonable. During my most recent visit (first week of January, 2016), the WiFi was a source of great frustration and aggravation. For most of my stay I could not connect at all making it impossible to conduct the business I had to do. When I reported this to the front desk, the excuse they made was that there were young athletes staying there with their multiple devices taxing the network. My understanding is that sport teams stay there regularly, so one would think they might consider better bandwidth. I also had a challenge with the heat in the room--I had to open the windows to counteract the excessive heat radiating from the HVAC unit (also very old and tired) in spite of turning the temperature to the coolest setting. The frigid outdoor temperatures helped cool the room readily fortunately. What kept my rating from being 1 star (terrible) is the front desk staff--they are always friendly and helpful (even though there was nothing they could do about the WiFi). My recommendation is that you keep driving to Potsdam (only 10 miles further) to find a better and more reasonable hotel.
Rooms were smaller than I expected and bathroom was very cramp and needs major updating. Staff very friendly, especially at the restaurant, and hotel very clean. Right in the center of everything in Canton and next to college.
We were a group of 25+ parents in town for HS hockey. Sonja was extremely helpful with our group reservation and had very good communication. Arrival was no problem other than another youth hockey group was checking out as we were checking in and they had late departure which caused our rooms to be delayed. No problem because the lounge was very comfortable with good service and some of us received free breakfast coupons which were worth the wait! This property had exactly the amenities we needed - onsite full restaurant, lounge, good parking, easy access, fitness room. Food was good - we had lunch and breakfast and late night in the lounge. Lounge open until midnight on Saturday. Downsides - rooms were in the lower level which was a bit claustrophobic with low ceilings. Beds were good, bedding was good. Bathroom was a bit outdated and could use some updating. Towels were a bit "budget" motel. Paid $124/night - probably because they're one of the only large, nicer hotels in town. Would stay again if in the area.
The University Inn facility is very clean, well maintained and quiet. The complex offers easy access to the local colleges and events in the area of Canton. Golfing, swimming, and ease of walking to the local town are available to those who may be interested in the athletic opportunities. Though a breakfast is not part of the reservation the connected restaurant does provide a very good selection of meal options within a reasonable price with a view of the golf course and depending on the timing a possible view of the local wildlife, deer and birds frequent the course and the ready availability of a freshly cut lawns. The team of staff and management are very friendly and ready to assist to make the stay in the area the most enjoyable. The knowledgeable staff was able to provide options for the customers from the local events calendars with suggestions of area points of interest. I felt that my visit to the area and this facility was very welcoming and a great pleasure to me and my family. I would recommend for everyone to experience this option at least once while visiting the Canton, New York area. I wish to thank all of the staff and management for the comfort I experienced.
Very nice place and the grounds are beautiful. It is located on a golf course. Nice restaurant with pretty good food, and a nice lounge. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Beds are firm and comfortable. Heating system is pretty old and fan runs so it is hot and dry when running. Overall I was happy with accomodations and would stay there again.
Stayed at the University Inn for the second time and again found it a comfortable hotel with a good range of facilities. The evening meal was good quality and value. The gym was also good, Will stay again.
There aren't a lot of options in Canton and the Best Western is probably one of the better choices. I ended up staying 7 days, but originally was booked to be in 2 days, miss a night then book in again until the end of my stay due to a visiting sports team. I rang the hotel and asked to be put on a waiting list, and got confirmation of 7 straight nights upon check in: I'd suggest you book as early as possible as this hotel fills very quickly during sports weekends and special events such as graduation. The room was clean and tidy, every thing works, the food is okay (we ate out in town with my daughters team most nights) and the bar is great for parent gatherings, although a little soulless. Really appreciated the DIY Laundry, especially given the length of my stay.
Was so very disappointed when visiting the Best Western Lounge recently. The divider wall between the bar and the lounge is no longer there. It is just not the same! The lights are now very bright and the soothing relaxed lounge feel is gone. The missing divider wall between the bar and the tables creates an entirely different atmosphere. Please bring the wall back and dim the lights. Also sad to see the bar menu is missing some of the old favorites.
This hotel is very old and is in the middle of one of many renovations over the years. There are very few hotels in Canton, NY, so they charge way more than the accommodations are worth. Unfortunately, for those parents visiting to watch their college athletes' competitions, there are very few hotels to choose from. Therefore, they are able to charge ridiculous prices.
This Best Western has a consistency in their offerings of comfort, convenience, cleanliness and value. Great rooms with a good restaurant, a lounge offering a range of craft beers, a fitness room to work off your restaurant and lounge efforts and fast wireless to ice the cake.
in an area with limited hotel options, this hotel provides great value. The hotel bar/restaurant has a very comfortable atmosphere, the entire staff is very courteous and professional, and the hotel is clean (common areas and rooms). Hotel is just finishing some needed remodeling. Cannot go wrong staying.
Great view of golf course.Nice university setting.Resturant food only Fair,my nachos had over cooked hamburger meat,my friend thought the salad with chicken was great. No espresso coffee. If it weren't for the view I would only give it 3.
are a customer of the Best Western chain, it had never happened to be staying in a hotel under renovation with poor service and high prices. I hope that after the restructuring even better room service, I did not find it the soap and even the towels! Good luck
My family and I drove six hours for a funeral and when we arrived to check in, the woman at the desk had the worst attitude I have ever encountered in my life. I believe her name was Stephanie, she was completely rude and absolutely miserable. After waiting about an hour we were finally able to check-in. The hotel however, was overall very nice. The room was nothing too fancy, it had all the basics needed for an overnight trip. When leaving for the night, the two women at the desk were so very nice and helpful, I believe the one was Brandi and the other was Amanda. And when I arrived back, they were both just as welcoming and happy. This hotel definitely started out on a bad foot but thanks to the two girls working that night, they changed it for the better.
My wife and kids booked hotel using our EXPEDIA credit of $117. The front desk required a $25 depisite on a credit card. We do not use credit cards. However my wife had $25 cash which hotel refused. In fact the hotel said of she had $200 cash that would be acceptable. So my wife and and kids decided to find a more accomidating hotel. However the hotel would refund the expedia credit. Stating their policy is no refunds. Howabout having a policy of human decency. So in conckussiin the hotel stole our $ and with out services rendered . All over a lack of a credit card. . This would be like you going out to eat. Ordering and paying for your meal and while you wait the establishment closes kitchen without refundubg your Money. STAY AWAY!!!!
The front desk staff was rude and unwilling to help with a checkin problem!!!! Managers were not supportive with customer service as well. Even had Expedia contact the hotel and they were not able to get hotel staff to support me as a customer. Ended up not staying at this hotel and they would not refund the money. Would never recommend staying here!!!!!
Although there are not a lot of places in Canton, this hotel is the best. The staff is always very friendly and the property is very clean. They have a very good fitness room and the property is adjacent to the St Lawrence University Golf Course which I have not played but it looks beautiful. The bed was extremely comfortable and the rooms are quiet.
Sheets had NOT been changed at All and the bed was full of many hairs! We called the front desk and had some one come to the room to see what we were looking at. There was no manager on duty and we were told this isn't the only complaint about this!! There were 2 beds in the room and no one even offered to change the sheets at all. This is totally UNACCEPTABLE.
Very convenient location for visiting Saint Lawrence College. The room was quiet and tidy. There wasn't a lot of space but we didn't need much. The price was right and the cookies were great. Staff was nice.
I found myself way upstate for work in early September and opted for a 2-night stay at the Best Western University Inn as my base camp for a number of things I had to do in the area. It is located very close to St. Lawrence University and was east of the main downtown area. Check-in was quick and the front desk person was lovely and friendly. I went into my room and was happy at its size and the basic amenities it offered. As a place to stay and sleep, it was fine, but there were elements of the room and experience that turned me off a bit: 1) The toilet was squeezed so tightly next to the sink that it was uncomfortable to sit on. 2) The hotel cleaning staff did not get a chance to come into my room. Granted, I had the "do not disturb" sign on my front door, but I had taken it off when I left my room at 9:30 am for the day hoping that they would clean it by the time I returned that afternoon. 3) The air conditioner is quite loud and old. I had it on the coldest setting and it would turn off as the temperature regulated in the hotel room, then kicked in again with quite loudly. It was hard to sleep when it would randomly turn on again, and the weather was not cool enough outside to have it turned off. 4) I woke up at 8:00 am to the sound of a bulldozer putting dirt on the grass area near my hotel room. It would tap on the curb as it got all the dirt out. If they're still doing construction, try to opt for a room away from the front. Overall, it wasn't a terrible stay (especially given the limited options in a small town like Canton), but I wouldn't go back.
Since everything was booked in Potsdam where we were doing the college drop off we skipped over to Canton. I loved this hotel and usually stay at a much more expensive hotel in Potsdam. Clean rooms, very quiet and lovely folks at the desk. No complaints and would def stay here in the future.
