Clean and well appointed with excellent internet service. Friendly staff. Obviously favored by travelers through the northeast corner of New Mexico. extra characters..................................................................
Large, comfortable rooms. Ample parking for RVs or vehicles with trailers. Very good free breakfast. Easy access. Across the street from a large gas and convenience store. Reasonable rates. Clayton Lake and dinosaur footprint Fossil Bed and Capulin Mountain Volcano National Park are close and worth a visit.
The rooms were ok. The bed was comfortable. The blinds stink like smoke/pot smoke. The coffee in the rooms was terrible. Be aware the pool is CLOSED. I didnt find this out until I arrived and it was the primary reason I booked the hotel. I only received a minimal discount.
Definitely stay here. BEST motel in town. Best place to stay with pets. The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, the pillows were comfortable, the AC worked good, the jetted tub with the tall showerhead was awesome. The breakfast was delicious and I'm pretty sure it was homemade, not a bunch of microwaved food. They had great stuff to make breakfast tacos (homemade tortillas, real scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, cheese and delicious green and red chili sauces) plus yogurt, cereal, cinnamon rolls, juice, coffee, etc. They even gave me treats for my two dogs when I checked in. The dog park is awesome!!! They keep it very clean, there are tons of trees making it very shady, there are picnic tables, and multiple dog poop bag and trash can stations. The bathroom was spacious, but the room with the toilet was a little tight and the toilet seemed small, but it could have been the layout with the door to the toilet room making it seem small.
Best dog walk I've ever encountered at a budget hotel. Dog fee was $20 period, not per dog. Room was standard but well kept and very nice. Comfortable beds. Absolutely fantastic breakfast with LOTS of hot and cold options, and service by Annie was second to none. Will definitely choose this hotel when we come through again.
If you want a clean room, great breakfast and accommodating staff, this is the place. We have stayed here at least a dozen times.
The website makes no mention of the pool closure. In fact there are pictures of nice blue water in the pool and 2 different text references to the pool as an amenity. We had a very disappointed 6 and 8-year-old. The hotel pool is a big deal for kids when they're traveling.
The rooms are very nice and clean. The pool seems to always be closed though. The breakfast is quite good.
I've stayed here a couple of times and always leave with a good nights sleep and a full stomach. This is a well managed property. Phillip, the desk clerk, went out of his way to make sure I was able to print a few docs I needed. The young lady at the breakfast bar was on task and very attentive! The property also has a great clean area to walk your pets! With a reasonable pet charge!!
I think that 145.00 per night is overpriced for this location and motel. it must just be the location is so far from everything that they can still charge the price they do.
Around 10:15 PM at night a man attempted to enter my room. He did have a key but luckily I had the chain lock on the door. The man was upset because he understood that room 225 was his. I told the man, no I had been in the room since the afternoon. He cursed and headed back to the front office. I called the front office and the clerk proceeded to tell me I was in the wrong room and should have been in 223. I then asked the clerk well how is it that my key card open the door for 225 and the paper they wrote my number on was 225. The person did apologize and said there may have been confusion at the front desk but that was it. I reported the incident to the staff member who checked me out in the morning and his response was sorry about that. But that is it. So because of a technical error on someone's part at the office a random person almost entered my room. Luckily I was in there. My work computer and other important items were in the room, had I not been there I am not sure what could have happened and then the response from the hotel was oops and insinuated it was my mistake because I was in the wrong room? I wasn't the person who assigned me the key, room, and room number. Very frustrating. I had to stay at two other Best Western during my trip and my experience was good for the most part with this horrible exception.
Good room, large and clean. They accept dogs. They have two RV Park type receptacle boxes for (free) EV charging, with 20, 30, and 50 Amp Receptacles. Best thing for me was an exceptional free breakfast experience. Real ground beef chili for my scrambled eggs?!?! The food was all good, and the two staff members in attendance were friendly and helpful and helpful. I would seriously stay here again just for the breakfast.
Very nice facility. Customer service was outstanding from when we called for a last-minute reservation until we checked out. We had to change the reservation again due to an emergency. Facility was very accommodating, above and beyond what others provide. Clean and comfortable room. Easy access off the highway but rooms were quiet. Nice continental breakfast, with a good selection of items. Highly recommend a stay here.
the kokopelli is a favorite stopover on our travels. it's older but well taken care of, and impeccably clean. staff are just the nicest people and the expansive homemade breakfast is superlative, especially the cinnamon rolls and red & green chiles. all this and pet-friendly too, with a great area for them. we look forward to staying at the kokopelli for many years.
We were headed to Santa Fe and needed to stay in a hotel. The Best Western in Clayton, NM was where we chose to spend one night. That was the best choice, not only a good price, but sparkling clean rooms, and a delicious, plentiful breakfast! The staff were all exceptional and helpful. Thank you.
Overall kolopeli is the best hotel in town I've stayed at others and they don't compare, thers plenty of places to eat that's close by which is a plus, also the staff does an amazing job from the front desk to the morning cooks in the breakfast room, I always look forward to staying here when I'm in town,
Great overnight stay while passing through Clayton. Very clean and updated rooms. Great breakfast the next morning. Will definitely stay there again and again while on this route through Nee Mexico! Extremely easy reservation and check in process.
Handicapped Couple was helped by friendly staff at this hotel. "BREE" at front desk helped us find parking for large RV and ensured we had minimal walking to our room. She suggested delivery food options and ensured we were taken care of. B'fast was great service person who made sure everyone in the room had what they needed and food was hot, fresh and tasty. Thanks BW Kokopelli Team!!
We were traveling as a family of 4 from AZ to Omaha. It was clean and the gentleman at check-in late at night was super friendly. The best part was the homemade hatch green chili served at breakfast. It was awesome. Anne, who's been there for 15 years, makes it herself. I ended up taking one home with me for $10.
It's clean, comfortable and well maintained. Staff is friendly and helpful. There is nothing exceptional about the design, but who really cares? Breakfast is quite a bit better than average, and the complimentary soap is pretty nice too. Overall, good value for the money in a town noted for very poor hotels.
Being an older hotel, it's not the Best Western you think of when you hear the name. So if you take that into consideration before you get there you probably won't be too terribly disappointed. It was a good stop on the way to some place better. Pros: It was clean, the room was decent sized, beds were comfortable. Cons: Older hotel, price a little high, no elevator.
we drive through this area 3-4 times a year. Stayed here the first time because pet friendly. Keep staying because it is hassle free. Nice outdoor area to relax, dog friendly, can walk to restaurants, wifi is great, rooms are clean and large.
I was traveling solo and needed to stop for the night. I found the room and bathroom to be clean but the odor was very stale. The rooms also need to be updated with something other than a chain to back up the door lock. The biggest issue is that the hotel is not updated to accommodate charging phones, iPads etc. they do have a three plug outlet on the desk but I like to have my phone right next to me, especially when traveling alone. The pillows were more like throw pillows and blankets were very thin. I was thankful I had my own pillow and blanket.
This may be an older motel but it is nicely decorated, clean & well-maintained. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was plentiful and delicious. They offered salsa and green chili sauce to add a southwestern touch to the scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits, and gravy. They also had sweet rolls, miniature blueberry muffins, cereal, yogurt, and fresh fruit. The attendant was very attentive and walked around, asking if anyone needed anything. This is a two-story motel without an elevator, and it tends to fill up so, if you want a first floor room, arrive early.
Pool was out of service for the times we stayed but otherwise a good location and value. Very good breakfast and pleasant staff. There is a great area to walk your dog (if traveling with your pet). Too bad people can't clean up after them.
Reserving the room online was easy. Hotel staff was prepared and the room was ready. Facilities were clean and well maintained. Everyone was professional and friendly. The breakfast was delicious. Really loved the dog park/picnic area.
We stayed at this Best Western on a road trip from Houston to Jackson, WY. I thought it was nice property. The room was big- had the bed area and a sitting area with a sofa (I'm not sure if it pulled out to a bed or not). The bathroom was updated. The room was clean, staff was friendly, and the free breakfast was good. The 87 restaurant across the street about a block down had good food.
We stay at this motel when we are traveling through. No elevators. Exterior entrances. We always ask for and receive ground floor room. Very convenient unloading and reloading vehicle. Rooms neat and clean. Staff friendly and accommodating. Hot breakfast bar includes sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, make your own waffles, southwest type condiments, coffee, juice, other continental type items. More than plenty for the two of us. Well decorated motel. We will continue to stay at this motel when traveling through. Stayed there in June 2023.
We stayed at this lodge after a long day of driving. Motels can often be sketchy, but this lodge was very nice. It was so helpful to have your vehicle right by your motel room door to rearrange, get forgotten items, restock cooler. The breakfast was superb with green chili stew and authentic-type local recipes. Woman running breakfast and her granddaughter were sweet and attentive. Great place!
We were planning on driving an additional 2hrs, but due to bad weather we decided to stop. The Best Western was there so we pulled in. A pleasant evening with clean and nicely decorated room. Supplied with anything needed.
I wouldn't know about the property because I cancelled my reservation within the time allowed. When I contacted Lisha, the manager, and she said I was charged she said to email her the info and she would correct it. Never happened. I even got the BBB involved and she wouldn't respond to them either. I finally protested the charge on my CC and got a refund through them. I noticed another traveler had the same problem. I am guessing it is a fine place to stay. Just don't cancel your reservation whatever you do.
Clean rooms, nice, small fitness center and excellent breakfast. Very friendly staff. I wish the pool was covered so it would be open but I've been there in the summer and it's a great outdoor pool. Will visit again.
Highly recommend. This property shows pride of ownership and is well-maintained. The breakfast was hearty and gave us a great launch for the following travel day. Our pooch really enjoyed the large on-property dog area. The train and highway noise in front of the hotel was a little worrisome when we checked in around 8 pm, but both died down significantly during sleeping hours. The bed was a little squishy, but all the other features of the lodge offset this minor complaint.
TV didn't work. Front desk didn't anser the phone. When I walked to the fron desk they told me to reboot the TV router. That was not possible. So no TV during the stay. Interenet did work so I at least could use my iPad to watch YouTube TV.
What a wonderful experience at the Kokopelli Lodge. I believe this is the cleanest and freshest hotel or motel I've ever stayed in. A friendly and knowledgeable staff, and by far the best breakfast I've ever had at any hotel. Close to gasoline and other restaurants in town. If I'm in the area ag, I will stay at the Kokopelli Lodge again.
This motel is worth stopping a little early or driving a little farther to stay at. Very clean and great breakfast!!! Will definitely recommend this stop to others. A great find on a trip through New Mexico.
Nice clean place to stay. Beds comfortable, water pressure good. Stopped on the way to Santa Fe NM. Located just off the HWY that follows the Santa Fe Trail. Office staff friendly. Places to eat nearby.
I stayed here for one night. The room was clean. I was able to park right outside the room which was helpful. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was good and the ladies who prepared it made sure there was plenty for everyone. Both check in and check out were smooth. I would stay here again.
We normally don't pick Best Western, but our options in Clayton were limited. We didn't regret our choice. PRO: Friendly staff. Raul was very helpful. Clean room. Comfortable bed. Climate controlled. The hotel looks new but was told is quite old. Everything working like it should. CON: No elevator for 2nd floor rooms. (Access is via outside) NOTES: Ask for a first floor if you don't like stairs.
Very nice comfortable hotel. We had a very good night's sleep. Although the hotel is showing its age, it's still well cared for and clean. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. Wonderful hot breakfast.
I wanted to give this hotel 3 stars but for a VERY small traveler stopover i guess I can't be to critical. The room was clean and everything worked. It's a very basic BW room. Nothing fancy. It's just a stopover as there are no activities in Clayton. The two ladies who prepare the breakfast did a great job as the food was varied, tasty and very well prepared. The coffee was great. On the downside the room had a prominent cleaning solution odor. The carpet made my white socks dirty. We have stayed here in the past and will stay here again. I would recommend this BW. It is what it is.
Definitely one of the better hotels in which I have stayed. It was very clean, and the staff was efficient, friendly, and helpful. The breakfast was good, and the gentleman working the breakfast area was awesome. I selected this hotel because it had a pool for my grandkids to use. It was very well cared for and sufficiently stocked with towels. I was delighted with my experience--it was a pleasant surprise! Most windows do face the east, so be aware that you will get early morning sunlight! The curtains would be my only reason for a "very good" rating on the rooms. The beds were very comfortable and had good pillows. I had a second floor room.
This hotel is a nice, clean property with tastefully decorated rooms, with a Southwest vibe. The room and beds are comfortable. We were pleasantly surprised with the fast internet connection. The breakfast buffet was delicious, and the breakfast area was clean and nicely decorated. The property is located conveniently across from gas and food options.
Yes, this is an older style motel, but it was clean, provided a good night's sleep and a good breakfast. They actually served scramble eggs that were not powdered! Also offered tortillas to make breakfast burritos, and had a selection of yogurt, cereals and milk. The lady staffing the breakfast area was friendly and helpful. The young man that checked us in was friendly and efficient and we enjoyed our stay. The motel appeared full the night we were there, but we never heard any of our neighbors. We stayed on the second floor and road noise was not an issue even though it is right off the highway. We typically always chose a Hampton Inn, or other Hilton brand hotel, or a Holiday Inn, but we needed a place to stay in this area the first night of our road trip. We were pleasantly surprised and pleased and would stay there again.
We had a very pleasant stay, surrounded by beautiful SW Kokopelli decor. The desk staff were helpful to ensure I was registered for Best Western's latest promotion. There was ample parking for our oversized RV. The room was clean and quiet. And breakfast had healthy options. We will stay again if we are in the area.
We got a room with a whirlpool tub. The tub leaked water faster than we could fill it up. We ended up using all the towels to try and clean up the mess. The room also had dead bugs all over the tops of the beds.
Great place to stay in the northern New Mexico area. May seem like an "old school" motel in design, but very nice updated spacious and clean rooms. Staff was very nice. Breakfast is the best you'll have anywhere. Price is a little higher than what you might expect for a small town, but worth a few dollars extra for a nice quality place to stay.
Bad room smell, folks smoking weed around the room. AC not working and making loud noise through out night. Breakfast was not up to the standard and missing basic items. Will not stay again here. Thank
I always stay here traveling between TX and CO. They allow multiple pets, and there's a nice little park at the south end of the hotel, complete with doggie stations. Clean, convenient, Love's gas station right across the street. Hot breakfast with large selections.
I should have known to ask for a first floor room but I didn't and we ended up walking up stairs which can be somewhat of an issue when your spouse has mobility issues. No elevator on location. I had read in previous reviews that the rooms had been renovated, yes the bathroom looked as it had been and the room looked as if it had been repainted but the bed mattress was a joke. Way tooooo soft and the pillows were horrid. I didn't sleep well at all. We went down to breakfast the next morning (around 8:00) and the selection was sparse. They did have scrambled eggs and sausage (I passed on the sausage) but there was no bread, English muffins or bagels. They did have biscuits. Another thing that I found really odd, they didn't have any milk. We travel a lot and this was probably the worst breakfast selection that I had ever come across. Wifi was okay and the shower pressure was great. Refrigerator was nice sized and it did have a freezer so that we could re-freeze our ice packs.
We loved this hotel which is beautifully remodeled and immaculately maintained. The rooms are warmly furnished and welcoming with double-pane windows to reduce road noise. The hotel provides a full breakfast in a good-sized room which is well-staffed. Everything about our stay exceeded expectations. Definitely recommend this hotel.
Best Western at its best Ample breakfast Immaculately clean Big pool Comfortable beds Dog walking area AC worked Gym good with treadmill, bike, elliptical and AC Hot water Pleasant staff Ample parking in front of room Parking for big rigs Quiet
The room was nice, newer paint and mattress. Friendly staff. Stayed with our dog. But I would encourage others to look around because there are better priced hotels in area if you book early enough -- don't wait until the last minute like we did this time.
Wonderful place. Friendly staff, clean rooms, comfortable beds. Cheerful information from the young man who checked me in about where to eat. Best breakfast I've ever had in a motel! I wish they had a restaurant for other meals!
Hotel was clean and comfortable and we live the Kokopelli theme that is reflected in the artwork in the rooms. Breakfast was wonderful. It was a full hot breakfast that even include green chilis for my eggs.
Only spent one night, but would definitely stay again. Older facility, but seems well maintained. Convenient to gas and restaurants. Check in and check out easy and staff was friendly and helpful. No complaints.
Clayton, NM is magically at the midway point of our 15 hour drive to our Colorado home from our second residence in southern Oklahoma. Kokopelli Lodge has spacious ground floor double queen rooms that open directly to the parking spaces and the dog park for our two pets. The motel is well maintained, clean and comfortable.
I would come here again - friendly staff and safe place to be on a lonely stretch of road. Seriously needs a microwave as there are no good restaurants. They could add a freezer in the lobby with nice options to heat up. The rooms were clean and good TV...need a card explaining TV and a remote that works for changing the source after folks have used a firestick, etc. Bed OK, but not as comfortable as other BWs. Pet friendly - yard needs to be picked up and sign for folks to please pick up after their pet. I think they had bags, can't remember as I had my own. We are used to pretty nice accomodations, but if spruced up and an option for food, I would say they could advertise and get much more business! It has great potential.
Poor check-in experience. Property is a bit noisy with thin walls and a main highway passes in front of it. Rooms are clean, fresh, and comfortable. The breakfast at the time was a grab and go due to the current situation.
Stayed here on the way to Red River. The staff was great and the hotel was clean. Buffet was delicious. Outside needs a little updating but doesn't effect quality! We will stay here everytime we passby on our way to visit Red River
What happened!!?? We stayed here a few years ago and had a great experience. Due to high occupancy, we had to book the up-charged 2 Queens w/ Whirlpool. We were totally fine with that because of our past experience. The room was really worn and outdated. The heater didn't work and we froze all night. We had the air cranked to 77 and it was still miserable. We all woke up with stuffy noses and sore throats. It was bad! The blackout shades were inadequate and so short that it let a lot of light into the room. We found dirty towels hanging on the back of the bathroom door. The toilet/tub area needs updating as well. I am super sad to write this review because we had such a good past experience. The cost of the room in no way reflected what we got - we paid over $150 for the room. So very disappointed!!! Not sure what has happened…new owners/management? Ugh! Not sure if we will try again which is too bad.
The television in our room came on at random intervals 3 times during the night waking us each time. The first room we were shown was uncleared (much to the surprise of the staff). When the tv was on in the second room the staff member said “the maid must have been watching it.”
What a gem of a place. Arrived Thanksgiving evening. Rooms are very clean. Carpet bathroom, everything! Breakfast what a surprise they say full breakfast but they are not kidding. Eggs, 2 kinds of sausage, make your own burrito, biscuits and gravy, pancakes and potatoes cereal...wow it was excellent
Don't stay here if possible. Sleeping in your vehicle is better. No microwave, no hot water, and bed were not comfortable. The place had an order and staff were rude. The noise from the road was horrible as well as from the other rooms. No elevator either. I can go on and on about how bad this place is.
We would definitely choose to stay in this Best Western again. It was exceptionally clean and comfortable and felt safe...which are the main things we are looking for. Our room was right on the road, so a bit of road noise but not enough to keep us awake. Lately, most hotels are not doing breakfast, so it was nice that this place was, especially since the town itself doesn't offer much in the way of places to dine. Breakfast was good but they could have done a better job of replenishing the offerings -- coffee ran out and no decaf -- and keeping things from getting dried out. Staff was all very nice. All in all, a good place to stay!
We were traveling thru the area and decided to stop a little early because we had been traveling in rain all day. The front desk clerk was very pleasant and courteous. The room I had booked wasn't ready, but she was able to accommodate us with another room immediately. The room was very clean and the bed comfortable. We didn't have a problem with traffic noise although we were right on a main thoroughfare but I use an app for white noise when traveling. Would definitely stay here again.
The staff went overboard decorating our room ahead of our arrival - truly making this trip a once in a life time one. Great place to stop for the night. We chose to travel through Clayton, because we were taking back roads to travel through the beautiful mountains of New Mexico.
We only stayed one night, but the room was clean (albeit old and with some holes in the walls) and we got a first floor room as requested. I typically avoid motels (doors exit to outside) due to noise, but this one wasn't bad until morning. There was quite a bit of car horns (locking/unlocking) going off around 4-5am as people were leaving, but that nose can't be helped in motels. There is a Love's Travel Stop/station right across the street from the motel, and you can see that as a convenience (gas, food, snacks) or a pain (a lot of traffic). Breakfast was nothing special - it was edible, but that's about it. Hand sanitizer stations right outside the dining room area were empty.
Best Western Kokopelli Lodge was a nice stopover for our trip from TX to CO. The front desk staff were friendly, and the room was clean but basic, with a comfortable bed. The breakfast was delicious, although a little difficult to locate the dining room. The only negative was the hotel is located right on the main highway that runs through town so trucks coming by can be a bit disturbing.
It was an outside entrance to room. The room was very clean. We had driven from Kansas CityMO. The first town in miles. No elevator, steps to upstairs. Breakfast was very good, the woman working breakfast was great. Lots of choices to eat. Pool was closed. For the choices of what there was around there, I should probably change to 4 stars.
Had been on a 20 day roundtrip. Was disappointed with most of my hotel stays under $200. This place was super clean... from the parking lot to the shower. You could tell it was important to them. Good mattress (if you are a road warrior you know this is not the norm under $200). Nice folks at the desk. Did I mention it was very clean?
There were two flyswatter‘s sitting on the windowsill when we entered our room, and now I know why. I killed six flies through the night, and there had to be at least that many still there when we left in the room. I explained this to the desk, asked for compensation, and received nothing. We are BW reward members, we know BWs, and this was the filthiest we have ever stayed. The good reviews must be fake. Our's could not have been an isolated experience, especially when the room was equipped with TWO fly swatters.
What an incredible facility and staff! Denise, Kendra, and Lisha are the most amazing hostesses around. Very pleasant and professional staff, including Annie and her co-hostess during the breakfast hours. Breakfast is a feast with two types of sausages, pancakes, biscuits, gravy, green chili, red chili, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, breakfast potatoes, eggs, tortillas . . . too much to list. You will not go away hungry. Room was spotless, upgraded, and maintained by the most friendliest of room associates. Refrigerator in each room and there is a microwave in the general coffee area located in the lobby. Plenty of parking. Covid compliant. You will love this place! Manager Lisha went above and beyond to get me a room while I was working in the area. This middle-age woman is grateful to everyone at this hotel! Safe, secure, and happy guest!
Very good motel, nice and clean. Friendly and helpful staff. Good parking for oversized vehicle. Excellent breakfast. We'd drive out of the way just for the breakfast. Easy access from highway. Good value for the price.
Super clean and the best hotel breakfast I've had in a motel. It's an older motel that has been renovated nicely. The rooms were super clean but the AC was a little tricky to get working (had to have both the cool and fan on simultaneously) to get consistent room temp. The breakfast was home cooked and prepared by someone who wanted you to feel like family. Pretty amazing compared to almost every other hotel free breakfast. If you need to stay in Clayton, this is the place to stay.
I can say that all Best Westerns have gone downhill over the years and this one is no different. When I was young if you saw the Best Western logo you thought a nice hotel, now I see it and I think an overpriced Super 8, and this one was no different. We got in late it was going on 1:00 a.m. There was no parking in the lot. If you do not have enough parking for all of your rooms that is a problem. We got In our room and for this place to have a sign up at check-in that says they are 8.8 out of 10 then we should not have dried pee on the toilet. The bathtub barely drained and when I pay the price I did for a room I expect to have a full pillow. This hotel had half pillows that were flat so you could not even fold them over. The room was not dark at all even with the lights off so I had about two hours of sleep. Got up the next morning hoping for a hot breakfast, part of it was hot, but I never knew which bite would be warm. The sausage links were ice cold and the scrambled eggs were not cooked long enough. The green chili had a good spice to it which was a plus. Overall this was not a great stay and I was only there for about 9 hours. This place will make me pass most Best Wester by in the future. It was just not a good experience.
This is probably the friendliest staff I have ever encountered at a motel. Anthony at the front desk was so personable and made me feel very safe and welcome. As a single woman traveling alone late at night, it was so comforting to have someone like Anthony at the front desk. The room was clean, the parking lot was safe and well lit, and Anthony said that he monitors the parking lot at night so guests could rest at ease. Additionally, they offer a complimentary breakfast that exceeded my expectations. When I went down for breakfast, I was greeted by Jennifer with a smile and a cheerful good morning! She greeted every guest this way, asking them how their stay was, how she could assist them with breakfast, and by checking in as we ate. Now, this is a breakfast “serve yourself” style, so Jennifer was going the extra mile when she made rounds checking at each table and offering any assistance. This Best Western is truly a diamond in the rough!! I hope that chance brings me back by there in the future! So happy I chose them!
When I called the front desk to ask about other guests setting off fireworks IN THE HOTEL PARKING LOT NEAR MY VEHICLE was told “it's the Fourth of July. I don't know what to tell you.” I had to give my vehicle make, model, year and tag number upon checking in but suddenly they don't care enough to keep sparks off of the hood?
Probably the best hotel Clayton has to offer, though that isn't saying much. Breakfast was good. Scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuit and gravy, pancakes, fruit, cereal, milk, juice and coffee. All rooms have outside doors, but it was still fairly quiet. No luggage carts or elevator, so you may want to ask for a first floor room. Non-smoking available, but there was an ash tray outside our room. Pets are allowed. Room was clean. Staff was nice. I only gave 4 stars because I have stayed in much better hotels, but if you have to stay in Clayton, I would stay here. If i I have to drive through Clayton, this is where we'll stay.
This motel takes the extra steps to ensure cleanliness and guest-staff protection during this Covid recovery time. Masks still required and very limited seating during breakfast. The room was clean and pleasant. The large gas station across the hwy has a variety of prepared foods; the motel has a microwave in the lobby area if you need one, and each room has a mini fridge and small coffee pot. The breakfast was extra nice, tasty and plentiful. Staff was efficient and friendly. A very nice option on our long drive from Colorado to Texas.
This is a great place to stop while on the road. it's very clean, the rooms are comfortable, and the breakfast is a step above your standard free hotel breakfast. the staff is friendly and helpful. minimal places for dinner so plan ahead.
This was a nice place. The room was extremely clean. I wish the pool was open but I understand they didn't want a pool of "covid soup" but it would have been nice since it was so hot out. The breakfast was really good and the woman serving it was super nice. Compared to the other two hotels we stayed at on our trip, this was by far the best.
I have eyed this hotel over the years. It looks so clean and inviting. We finally made a plan to stay here and we will plan on it again. It was more than I expected. The Coy pond was a nice touch too.
I was quoted one price but the bill reflected 20.00 more than what was quoted. I was told that was standard in case there was some charges. I had no other charges and the amount has not been credited to my discover account. The evening check in staff had no explanation on why I signed for one price and was charged over per my discover text alert. The day staff told me it would eventually be credited? I have had 5 other check ins at other facilities at this point and no other hotel has done this.
I usually pick new hotels because I'm a germ freak but due to a cat breakdown there was little to choose from. This motel was absolutely wonderful. The room was so clean. Bright white sheets & towels. New clean modern carpet and tub was spotless. Front desk wore masks and only allowed 2 guests at a time to grab breakfast and take back to room due to covid. Delicious breakfast (real eggs) with 2 types of yummy sausage, potatoes, biscuits & gravy and pancakes and cereals. I usually skip hotel breakfasts because it's subpar but this was delicious. So impressed with the friendliness of staff. Love this little place. Also directly across from a Loves so easy to get gas and supplies.
Although I was a bit surprised and disappointed to see that this place was motel style rather than hotel style like most BW's (my fault for not paying closer attention when I made the reservation), we really enjoyed our stay and would gladly stay there again, especially given the other options in Clayton. Although I really prefer hotels to motels (for safety and noise reasons), this place was right across the street from a busy and well-lit Love's and seemed quite safe and quiet. Our room was absolutely immaculate. I always do a quick bedbug check at every hotel (never want that to happen again after one time in NYC), and both the linens and mattress pads were noticeably cleaner and whiter than usual, as were the towels. The amenities were also a notch or two above the norm. The lady at the front desk said upon check in that they had the best breakfast in town. We have not been anywhere else for breakfast in Clayton, but I am confident that she was correct. Although their dining area was still closed due to Covid, a lady served up our requested items to go and we ate in a lovely little garden area adjacent to the hotel. REAL scrambled eggs, homemade biscuits and gravy, sausage links and patties and wonderful red and green chile if you are so inclined (I was). Really nice breakfast included in our fare. The front desk staff were both helpful and friendly coming and going. No complaints at all!
Love the hotel and front desk guy Anthony was so awesome he help us fine a restaurant In town also help my disabled husband out with out bags and things I will stop back coming home and hope to see this awesome guy kokopelli is really a amazing place to stay
My husband and I found ourselves on an unexpected road trip, and I was panicked that we would be stranded in the middle of nowhere without a place to stay. I found the Kokopelli based on reviews, and I was not disappointed. I am an absolute freak when it comes to hotel cleanliness, so trust me when I say that this place is cleaner than many fine resorts and five-star properties. It's a perfect place to stay for a quick stopover. We did not have our dog, but I understand it is also pet friendly. I would definitely stay again if we were in need of a pit stop on a long trip.
The Best Western Kokopelli Lodge in Clayton NM was a great choice of place to stay while traveling through. Clean rooms, friendly service, and a wayyy above average breakfast. When I called while on the road to make reservations Anthony told me how great of a place it was. Now I'm a believer. Pulling a 34' trailer it's sometimes hard to find a place to stay that has parking accommodations, but they have a huge “overflow” lot for plenty big enough for 18 wheeler parking as well. If you're looking for your next pit stop the Kokopelli lodge is a perfect choice.
Pet friendly with a beautiful courtyard. Love the staff very friendly and accommodating. Pillows were comfy. And the room was Comfortable. I feel that the continental breakfast would have been more enjoyable if it were not for Covid regulations in place. However I'm very thankful that this hotel is going what they can to provide excellent service and stay safe. A bonus surprise was the doggy treats they gave us for our dog when we checked in.
Hotel staff was friendly. Hotel was neat clean and organized. Breakfast was awesome. Great selection for breakfast. Hotel gave me a courtesy call to see if everything was great in my room during my stay there.
We've stayed at Kokopelli several times since moving to Colorado and traveling back to Texas to see family. The staff is always helpful, rooms very clean, and no hassle when traveling with pets. We could not recommend this location enough!
We had a great experience. With COVID-19 being a concern, we found the rooms to be clean and free from dust, etc. Social distancing was practiced by all the staff. We will make this our hotel when we return to the area.
Check in was very nice and the front desk employee Jacob was very nice and very attentive . He made check in a very pleasant experience. The rooms were very clean and nice. The next day wasn't as pleasant. The housekeeper didn't knock and just came in while my husband and I were sleeping. Then, we wanted to stay until 11:30 AM just 30 Mins after checkout and we called front desk and the front desk employee Jennifer was very rude to my husband and said that they had people needing in that room. When check in isn't until 2 PM. She hung up on my husband when he told her we only needed 30 extra mins. I have worked front desk and housekeeping at hotels and motels. And we are told to treat the guests respect and kindness. And we didn't experience that at all at check out time. Our overall stay was not a bad experience but front desk in the mornings need to learn how to treat the guests. Sometimes late checkouts happen and that is their job to deal with that kind of situation when it occurs. And they charged my daughters room for the extra 30 mins and I always thought it was after 12 PM when they would charge a fee for late check out.
Spent a night here while traveling through. As always the place is neat and tidy, good service. There was no hot breakfast this time, jut a grab-and-go bag which contained a nice assortment. Breakfast here is usually one of the best I have experienced at a hotel. I stay here at least twice a year. My first choice in Clayton. Hotel clerks were wearing their masks properly.
The hotel and room were better than expected. Very clean and nicely decorated. The price was a bit high for the location. Receptionist was very friendly and welcoming. Plenty of towels for a group of 3.
Neat Colors & classic layout set this lodge apart from the newer big box hotels. The staff was very nice & the place is clean. The only 2 issues were the AC was set to 60 but it would occasionally pump out heat and not cool very well at all, & the tub drained slow. But good water pressure & clean towels made up for that.
I've stayed at this BW a couple of times in the past. This was first stay during Covid lockdown. The room was clean and the AC worked well. They have a nice doggie area. The stairs are steep, though, which makes carrying luggage upstairs tough. Front desk person was friendly. Okay for a night, but ask for downstairs.
We were passing through on a Tuesday night in July of 2020. We called ahead from Denver by 6 hours and asked for a room with all of the particulars that we needed due to my father being handicapped, but not needing a handicapped room (ground floor, pet friendly room with 2 queen beds) and confirmed the reservation with our credit card. We also let them know that we would be arriving late. When we arrived a little after midnight, the desk clerk claimed they had given our room away. We were forced to drive 45 minutes to Dalhart to find another room that met our needs. The new room was cheaper, but we still had to deal with the extra driving time and the time change. It may have been a simple mistake or maybe incompetence by the overnight clerk, but the result is that this hotel joins the list of places that have guaranteed a room with our credit card only to fraudulently renege on the agreement. The desk clerk even asked if we wanted him to cancel the credit card charge, as if anyone would allow the charge when they didn't stay at that hotel. The next time we need a room along that stretch of highway, which we travel about 20 times a year, we will not be patronizing the Kokopelli again.
I wish I could leave a better review of this place. The staff is very nice and friendly. The brown bag of snacks for breakfast is pretty good....wish they had a fresh pot of coffee in the lobby for a beverage. I think the governor of NM is not allowing any sit-in dining so it's not the fault of the hotel. The room was clean. The beds were comfortable. The AC works just okay....it had to stay on all the time but it did the trick. There were a lot of flies in the room because the cleaning staff leaves the door open while they clean. They do supply each room with a flyswatter. They give you barely enough towels. I really needed the computer in the lobby to work....I didn't have one with me....and it didn't work. The staff couldn't get it to work, couldn't connect it to the internet or a wifi in the area. Just update your website to let people know of this problem. The price of this hotel is too high for what you get in my opinion.
Stayed 2 weeks with a week break in between. A total of 7 days. 5 nights the first time and 2 the second. Both times my reservation was messed up and they tried checking my crew out early. The first time twice. For long stays they only clean the rooms every other day and there's no more breakfast yet I was charged the same. Not happy.
While I was only there overnight, (Only to get off the road and sleep) I will say the staff was wonderful. Very friendly and helpful. Even though it was July 4th, the fireworks going on couldn't really be heard inside our room. Comfortable space and Room was very clean.
The front counter attendant was very nice, helpful and knowledgeable of the area. Check in was quick and easy. As we entered the room, I always check the room for smells and lazy cleaning habits. No issues with that here, I always check the bed mattresses as well for dirt, hair and bugs. Traveling in construction, u get used to checking for all that because of all the shady hotels we work at or stay at. The room was fine, bed felt great, good night sleep. We used this as a halfway point from Oklahoma to Colorado, and will stay here for any future travel in this area.
The room was nice and everything worked, but there were no amenities because of the corona virus. Hot breakfast was replaced with a sack that had a bottle of water, apple, and granola bar- not even the muffin that was promised. I understand why things were the way they were, but if you are not spending money on amenities, you should discount the rooms accordingly. Also, a train blasts its horn at 3:20 a.m., so keep that in mind if you are looking for a good night's sleep.
We have stayed here many times over the years. We know we will always get a warm welcome when we check in and that the room will be clean. The rooms are large and the beds comfortable. They have a nice breakfast area with many choices. It is located perfectly to break up our 12hr drive from Dallas to Creede Co.
I would highly recommend Kokopelli Lodge. Room and bathroom was clean. Bed super comfortable. I know I read about the train waking them, but this is just part of a town with a train passing through. Anthony was great during checkin. The breakfast was hot and fresh. I had a breakfast burrito. The dining area was super clean. Jennifer checked on all people dining. Would definitely stay again.
I did not intend to stay in Clayton, NM but GPS lead me on a merry goose chase and weary from traveling the Best Western in Clayton was beacon of luxury to these tired eyes. I was happy to flop on my bed and relax after an 9 hour drive. The wifi here is excellent. Rooms clean and well appointed. Breakfast was a wonderful surprise with real eggs and loads of bacon, sausage, yogurt, granola, etc. The best part was Jennifer, the hostess. She went out of her way to make me comfortable and make sure I had everything I needed for breakfast. Even offering to make me a burrito to take on the road. Well done, Jennifer.
Overall a decent place to stay but somewhat substandard for BW expectations. Especially unimpressed with the front desk staff both evening and next AM. All 3 we encountered seemed pretty disinterested in our stay, but they were all very business oriented and efficient. Breakfast was excellent with lots of good selections for the main portion with eggs, 2 types of sausage, potatoes, gravy. Rooms were very clean and soundproof. Price was great for the value too.
Okay place for the night in Clayton if you can't get to better location. Hotel is okay but overpriced. Had trouble at checkin with ability to find BW Rewards account. Breakfast was horrible, with poorly cooked eggs and sausage.
No Hot Water and Stale Odor Room. Reported issue to front guest. They offered points as compensation. They haven't done what they said. They lied. Bad service, lack of customer service because they're basically the only game in town. I'd suggest you pass on this hotel. They simply don't care. They'll take your money.
Have stayed at this property many times. It is one of my favorite Best Westerns. They serve a realy good breakfast and the rooms are comfortable. Slept well. Lots of memories of good trips with people I love to be with
This place is very good. The room was clean as was the bathroom. The bed was comfortable. The linens and towels were soft. The breakfast was better then expected. I especially liked the green chili in the egg for the breakfast tacos. I was disappointed that they would not honor the lowest price shown on tripadvisor.
Staff was very accomodating for an early check in and late check out. Comfortable beds, and we had a very large bathroom with extra counter space and mirrors. Breakfast was amazing! Red and green chilli, eggs, and plenty of extras!
We were traveling back home and needed a pet friendly hotel. The staff was friendly, professional and efficient. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious. They use real eggs not powdered. They offered a lot of choices including making your own breakfast burrito with red or green chili.
Easy to get to, clean rooms, helpful staff, parking lot felt secure, good breakfast for the price. Fitness facility was pretty bare but met our needs since we were the only two in there and all machines were in working order. We would definitely stay here again if we need to stop in Clayton again on our travels.
We have stayed at this hotel many times on our trips to New Mexico. This hotel has always been consistently clean and comfortable. We really like the room, bed, and the breakfast. The breakfast options are build your own breakfast burrito, or just have eggs and sausage. They had cereal, yogurt, and fresh fruit (apples and oranges). The lady working the area kept everything spotless in the breakfast area. Will keep coming back here for sure.
we consistently stay at Best Westerns on our travels, and the Kokopelli Lodge was a first time visit for us. A small town, a big hit for hotel choices. The stay was as great as any in a big city. The breakfast options were healthy along with filling.
We've stayed at this hotel many times while passing through Clayton. It's always been clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful as well. We don't always eat breakfast there, but when we have it's been very good.
Staff was amazing. Room was very clean. Breakfast was excellent. Everyone there was super helpful....even called to make sure the room worked as we had some special needs. This place rocks! This place looks a little funky upon arrival but don't be put off. It is worth the time to find it!
Check-in was very easy, and quick. The front desk clerk was helpful, and gave us all we needed to know. The hotel is right next to a busy street, and the walls are thin so keep that in mind. We found the room clean, and adequate. There was a small refrigerator in the room which I wasn't aware of ahead of time. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was fine with eggs, sausage, biscuits, gravy, yogurt, cereal, etc. I would stay here again.
Room was very clean with a nice southwestern flare design. We had 2 dogs with us & the hotel had a very nice grass area for pottying dogs with baggies available. So convienent! Also nice parking area especially since we had a small trailer & there were 2 spots near front office for cars with trailers.
Hotel was very pleasant, staff friendly, breakfast good. fresh made eggs-do not get that often in places. If we ever come back this way we will stay at this property. Pool was not available, but we did not care, someone else did??
Returning to Texas From Utah, we called and made a reservation. I was driving our 24 ft. RV, my wife was following in my Tacoma. At check-in, I had to get the clerks attention. He seemed annoyed that he would have to quit staring off into the distance. He (Jeron) mumbled when speaking to me, and I had had to continually ask him to repeat what he said. I returned and asked (Jade) about parking the RV. I was told I'd have to park in the oversize vehicle lot. The lot was isolated from the motel property by a line of trees and was open on two sides to foot or vehicular traffic. I asked about security, she told me the lot was surrounded by six cameras. I drove down to the end of the block and parked on the highway side, hoping it would be visible to the cameras. Returning to the front desk, I asked her if I could see the views on their security system to make sure it was covered. She became flustered, hemmed and hawed, then said "I'll have to call my manager". I asked "Why?". Her: "She has the codes." Me: "Codes to what?" Her: "The codes to see the security cameras." Me: "You mean you can't see the screen?" Her: "She monitors the cameras on her cell phone." Me: "You mean no one except the manager can view the security cameras?" Her: "Well, yeah." Me: "I'd like to see the manager." Her: "You can't, she's on a corporate trip." Me: "Who's monitoring the cameras while she's gone?" Her: "Well, she is." Me: "What happens when she's driving? What about when she's asleep?(!) Her: "Well, nobody, I guess . . ." I shut it down at this point, took a deep breath, thanked her and walked away. Crazy! Jade did call me back, said she had talked to her manager and I could park next to our room for an additional $25.00. And by the way, there were no cameras monitoring the oversize lot. She blamed "a former employee" for bad information. The next morning on the way to breakfast, I saw four vehicles pulling trailers parked in the main lot, from a commercial truck with a generator to a pickup with a camper trailer. I would be very surprised to find out that they all paid the extra money. Otherwise, the room was dated with the furniture and furnishings somewhat worn, but it was all very clean. Breakfast was standard fare, but there was an attendant/cook present and plenty of seating. We just had an uneasy feeling about the place.
I loved staying here for years on travel's. Recently the owner's changed and I'm watching this place slowly slip away from a wonderful hotel to the realm of Motel. Rooms are clean to start. I have a service dog and we are still treated well however, the pet relief area has been continually un kept my last 3 stays. I figured with the change of hands there was a transition process that needs to be respected. It's gotten so overgrown and messy that I took my dog to a nearby fair grounds to do his business and so I can see what he's stepping in. The pool? OMG a mess. Awnings are starting to fall apart and the breakfast is not what it once was. I hope someone reads this and understands this place has always been so awesome! I miss the shopping of local artists there also! Save this lodge!
We have stayed many times before and it was a good value and very nice. This time when we stayed, we were surprised the price was so much and then a $20 dog fee on top of that. The room was nice but you can hear so much noise of other people around you moving around. Also, there were several spiders in our room including one on my pillow. When I told the clerk the next day, she said "I'm sorry but they get in under the door". Really...then replace the door sweep and get pest control out more often. The pool was closed and we were disappointed. This is not like other Best Western hotels. We won't stay again. :(
This is a great hotel tucked into a quiet town. We love this place and stay here when ever we go cross country. The hotel has a great midwestern look to it and the rooms are comfortable. The breakfast is surprisingly great for such a small quiet place.
Stayed here for 3 nights and enjoyed it, we had what must have been one of the recent updated rooms. The room had great lighting and the bathroom was a good size. We didn't use it but it even had a jetted tub. The breakfast had the usual fare, staff is on hand to get anything that was missing. Only complaint I would have is the food was a little cold where it should have been warm or hot.
We have been staying at the Kokopelli Lodge for over 25 years and looked forward to staying here. The new owners have let the motel premises decline and should not be considered a Best Western standard. The pool the three times we have stayed here this summer is closed and filthy water has collected on top of the cover. Big disappointment for those of us who like to use the pool. The parking lot has litter scattered around. The previously pretty Koi Pond has weeds growing all over the landscaping area. The pet relief area has animal feces all over and we encountered a homeless person sleeping near the shuttle-board Court. The housekeeping staff must be fearless to maintain the rooms which were clean. Didn't have the breakfast which used to wonderful for a chain place so can't comment on this. The lobby is also sad now with all the nice display cases which showcased the local Native American heritage crafts and jewelry gone. We will be driving onto the Best Western at Raton on our next trip.
The motel was comfortable. The room was clean and cool. The breakfast was good. Only disappointment was the pool was under repair. We booked the room because the pool looked better than others in the area. With 2 small kids it was a big deal. They can update their website to advise customers of issues.
When I checked in my room had been given to someone else under my name and reservation. They gave me a king but I reserved 2 doubles with jetted tub. I had to go back. Then I got a room that smells like orange and a regular tube (that part didn't matter a lot). I checked my BW account and the other persons 5 day reservation was on mine. I was only staying one night. I called BW but they wouldn't help so I went to the office one more time. Ashley (I think) couldn't remove it either. I'm being told I won't be changed anything but it's still showing open. This happened last night so time will tell. Not the kind of testament I expect from BW.
Relatively clean and well maintained. Bed comfortable. Desk staff helpful & friendly. Ice machine out of order. Breakfast at 8:00 in morning was dismal. Coffee empty. Water empty. No cold items in fridge. Only 1 pastry left. Attendant grumpy. There is a store across the street where you could get something to eat & coffee.
Hotel was clean. Staff friendly. Breakfast was good. Easy to find in Clayton. Gas station across the street. Stopped on way from Kansas to Taos. Would definitely stay here again. Has a New Mexico vibe.
Very nice! It was obvious that a lot of care and pride has gone into this Best a Western. It was clean and overall a very pleasant experience. We will definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.
Great hotel staff was awesome .. Location is perfect . Room was very clean and I highly recommend this Hotel of your staying over in Clayton New Mexico. Price was great I have bn paid more a d got lessl
A great comfortable place to stop & rest heading into New Mex & Colorado . We've been stopping here for the past 8 or so years (3 x yr). Great breakfast before heading out. People are nice and helpful.
Our first stop was Clayton NM with our grandkids. The room was standard. I first checked the air conditioning. I can't stand the type of units where a lot of moisture blows. This was not the case. I like it cold and it got cold since we in the main part of summer. The pool did not have clean clear water - it was some what murky but my grandkids had to be in it. Luckily it rained and ended the event. The room was all we needed to get a good nights rest. Nothing broke all worked well and people were friendly.
This place has all the right ingredients to be super. Everything was clean and fresh, the decor beautiful, the internet fast, the desk friendly and helpful, the breakfast outstanding, and the television solid. So why the average rating? The curtain had a two inch rip in it. The bedspread/blanket had a hole in it. Finally, the pool was still closed and has been based on previous reviews. It is something that should have been handled a long time ago! And the price was well over $100 for two adults and one child.
My husband & I have stayed here numerous times when traveling through the area, & have always been happy with our experience. This time, once we were checked in, we were happy with the room, & breakfast was excellent. The breakfast staff was friendly & helpful. When I checked out, the lady on the office was very pleasant. She was the complete opposite of the lady who was working when I checked in the previous day. This lady was not unpleasant to the point of being rude, but she did not make me feel at all welcome. I did not have a good first impression! Later in the evening, my husband went to walk the dog. All the “poop bag” dispensers were empty. He reported it to the lady in the office, who seemed to be pretty disinterested. When I walked the dog the next morning, the dispensers were still empty, & the dog walk area was a mess. How do they expect people to pick up after their dogs, if the staff is not interested in keeping the area clean? It is likely that the next time we are traveling through the area, We will find another place to stay.
We had to stop due to an approaching storm. Thought the rate was high, but by the end of the stay we were satisfied with the rate. Nice, clean & comfortable. Maintenance seems to pay attention to detail. Smooth and quick checkin. Great breakfast selection- fresh and hot! We recommend this BW and would stay here again.
I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The room was clean, the bed was very comfortable. Location is nice. Across from Loves (gas stop), down the street from Pizza Hut and the local market. Friendly staff upon check in and the young lady working the breakfast room was very friendly. If you are looking for a local coffee shop check out Mocks Crossroads Coffee Mill, it was a pleasant surprise to find on my drive out of town.
This property is not a lodge in any sense of the word. It's an in-town motel. A nice motel, but a motel. My room was fine and sleep quality was very good. Free parking is available on site. Service was very good. One of the light bulbs in my room was out, and it was cheerfully replaced right away.
The room was exceptionally clean and the breakfast was one of the best hotel breakfasts I have had in a long time-with eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, and pancakes. The dog park was large and clean and pleasant. The staff were inviting and helpful.
Well maintained and very clean hotel!!! Called the hotel directly and she was very helpful in helping us with our rooms. This is rated a one star hotel and that is completely off. This hotel is far better! Quiet and has a small, pretty park next to it and it is as well maintained as the hotel Lovely decor and well appointed. Lots of choices at breakfast, food was well prepared and the green chili was good! Very clean and the people working were very attentive. What a gem of a hotel! We will definitely be back
This is our favorite place to stop at halfway from Albuquerque to Kansas City. Very nice hotel. They are possibly doing renovations but i would love it if they will keep it in the Southwest style. The employees were very pleasant. We had the king executive room and it is so cool decorated in the southwest style.
We stayed the night here on a family road trip. The place was very nice- clean and quiet. Excellent staff and great breakfast. Just and FYI- my kids were a little disappointed that the pool wasn't open- it opens after Memorial Day- Will definitely use this location again if we are in the area.
Our room was very nice and tastefully decorated. The breakfast area was neat and clean. The staff was very helpful and friendly. A Love's gas station is right across the street. Easy in and out. Desk staff was friendly and helpful.
Cut to the chase, this was a fantastic and lovely, and unexpected experience. We were traveling with our dogs back home to Santa Fe and since this was listed as ‘dog friendly' we booked it. They chain didn't gouge us, the $20 fee was very reasonable. We didn't expect how lovely, large, super clean the rooms would be at this price. The entire room was in superb almost like new conditions and so charming in it's southwestern style. After a long road trip with up's and too many down's in the hotel area, everything here was prefect and we were shocked that such a high caliber ‘Lodge' like this would be so affordable and in of all places Clayton NM. It's a small town but whoever is running this establishment knows quality and is a perfectionist. A gem nestled in Clayton. Attention to detail is seen throughout. The soaps provided were of high quality. The furniture is lovely southwestern (see photo of the details on the door to the fridge). This was a lot like staying at a friends casita in Santa Fe. The grounds like the rest of the property is immaculate. Large areas of green grass and lovely landscaping for guests and pets, with chairs, a grill, and again everything was in pristine condition. Charming, lovely, not expected. The BW headquarters should be looking at this one location because after years of staying at La Quinta chain for the pet policy (which has changed recently for the worse), we will now look to book at other Best Western's in the chain from now on but we will not automatically expect this caliber of quality. If for any reason you need to stay anywhere near Clayton NM, you should book this property!
Comfortable large rooms that were a bit dated but had plenty of electrical outlets for devices and good WiFi. A nice breakfast buffet was provided. There are several parks and area attractions nearby.
My wife and I spent one night here in April 2019 on our way down to Texas. The room was large and comfortable, and the motel offered ample green chile in the breakfast buffet, which I really appreciated. ¡Viva Nuevo México!
This is a perfect place to stay on your road trip in or out of New Mexico. Rooms are spacious and clean. The beds and pillows are comfy. But the breakfast!.. first class with a New Mexican green chili twist. It sure pleased my husband!
Kinda 70-80's retro without the rundown. Clean restrooms. Clean everything that I saw or touched. Smells good. Comfortable. Cool decor. Not a run of the mill place Was hoping to hear the lonesome whistle of a train but alas....
We have stayed here frequently. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The service is excellent. Reserve in advance. This is a popular hotel. The complimentary breakfast is delicious. There is an excellent museum in downtown Clayton worth a visit. Nice jewelry for sale in the motel lobby.
I spent 1 night here on may way through from Colorado. I found this hotel to be clean, and reasonably priced. They served a very good complimentary breakfast. The only negative was some traffic noise but my room was the closest to the highway.
This is one of our go to places to stay when traveling with our dog. On our last stay, there was a change in ownership and the place seem a little run down. On this stay the room seem to have had better care and a little more refreshing. The rooms don't have microwaves, but they do have a mini-fridge. There is a microwave near the office where the ice machine is located that you can use. This lodge is two-stories with no elevator. If you have any problems carrying your luggage upstairs, be sure to ask for a ground floor room. The dog "Milk Bone' on the bed was a nice touch. We really appreciate places that will let us bring our dog, but $20 per night seem a little excessive when Quality Inn and Suites just down the road only charges $10. Their rooms are large, clean and comfortable.
Clean rooms, great location, good food 644070622 Every summer I spend time in Colorado camping and fishing ...On the way up and back from Houston TX I always spend a night At the Kokapeli ....large clean roms, great beds, and the food is delicious ///
Train noise. Car horns, running overhead, and a wall unit that sounded like it was going to take flight. Reported wall unit and got the typical reply: I'm sorry.I would not recommend staying in this hotel
At door parking--I like that. Large room, excellent beds. Nice desk to work at. The breakfast is one of the best I've had--good potatoes and toppings, granola with toppings to choose from scrambled eggs were good. Great coffee. The best thing about the breakfast? No TV in the breakfast room blaring away at you--the place was quiet. First time I've ever had breakfast at a motel without a loud TV grating on my nerves. Wish the idea would catch on.
This hotel has some shortcomings: no microwave in room and the internet is not reliable. Train tracks are nearby and trains run day and night. A pulse for me was they have a tall toilet Breakfast was well done.
Having stayed in this BW countless times over the years there has been a very noticeable decline since the business sold. We first noticed this last year when all of the beautiful jewelry and regional art displays were gone-not that big a deal as to accommodations but this added to the feeling of hospitality and care. Upon our recent arrival we find that the organic body care products they provided for years are no longer provided and worst of all-in Dec on the shortest night of the year, we had no power so no heat, no lights, nothing and the response from the front desk was that we wouldn't receive a discounted or waved rate because it isn't BW's fault and that "we have fresh coffee"?!?!?! Sadly, a destination en route to CO that we'd always counted on in the past is now rapidly becoming a unwelcoming, expensive dump!!!
The staff, Aspen in particular, was AMAZING. The room was large, very CLEAN, comfy and the perfect stop to relax and refuel after a long day on the road. Yes, there is a train that goes by but did not blow its horn at night so rest was peaceful. We enjoyed a hearty breakfast before hitting the road that was just what we needed to make it to Colorado.
This was a great spot to split our drive to Texas from Colorado both ways. Great staff and Great breakfast! What makes it even more perfect is there is a gas station right across the street and so convent. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable! Would recommend this hotel to anyone making the trip and needing a rest!
We were headed home and needed a place to spend the night when we were coming up on Clayton. There weren't a lot of options and it was late so we took a chance on the Kokopelli lodge. We called ahead and they had three rooms and when we stopped the young lady at the front desk was ready for us. She was very nice and helpful and check-in was quick. Room access is from the outside only which wasn't a problem when we checked in because it was dry but it was raining the next morning when we got up so loading up was a bit damp. And we were on the second floor and there were no elevators so carrying all of our stuff downstairs in the cold rain was not a lot of fun. But the rooms were clean and comfortable and that's what was most important. I slept in so I I skipped the free breakfast but the other guys said it was good. If I was back in the area and needed a place to stay, I might check out what other options are available but if the only place open was the Kokopelli Lodge, I wouldn't be disappointed.
After a long drive we were looking forward to a night of rest in a clean room. After unloading our bags and getting ready to relax for the evening we discovered there was cat or dog poop in the room along with animal food. How disgusting was this? I called the front desk, the individual at the desk was shocked as we were, & moved us to another room. BW owners gave us a small discount which was not to our satisfaction- really? This was so unacceptable it makes you wonder if they can't get the big stuff cleaned what about the little stuff - Yuck! We'll never stay at this particular BW in Clayton, NM ever again!
Best place to stay in Clayton. Staff helpful, clean rooms, good beds. No restaurant, but convenient for gas and fast food across the street. Wonderful beds and had a good night 's sleep. Highly recommended.
Road trip back from Colorado, and we stopped in Clayton for the night. We have stopped at the Kokopelli before. Room are clean, comfortable, and reasonably priced. The breakfast buffet is one of the best free breakfast's I've experienced.
Nice hotel in this small town. Hotel is well kept and everything worked properly. Staff was pleasant and effecient. Breakfast was the same as most hotels, but the staff set this one apart. She kept all the items filled and fresh. Nice place to stay in this part of New Mexico.
Lot of added details at this property, including larger parking spaces; canopy over stairs to 2nd floor; room furniture....loved the extra touches. From "Mo" at check-in to the lady and young man at check-out to the young lady managing the breakfast....all were super nice, caring...professional and accommodating. One of my best experiences at a Best Western anywhere!
When we needed a place for several family members visiting from CA, TX, OK and UT because family in Grenville had no extra beds, we found plenty of comfortable accommodations at BW in Clayton. Breakfast was fresh and filling, and made it very pleasant every day.
If you are driving and this hotel is on your route I can highly recommend it. Clean, inexpensive and friendly staff. Really great for people traveling with dogs. The city itself has very little to offer in terms of restaurants but hey you are in the middle of nowhere.
We were traveling through to Texas and we needed to stop for the night...This place is so clean and comfortable! Plus, we have a dog and they have a beautiful, large, well-maintained dog park on site. The breakfast was yummy and they had both hot and cold options...Don't hesitate to stop here!
Perfect place to stop on the drive from Texas to Colorado. Clean, friendly, nice size rooms, comfy beds, and a great breakfast. Just wish the bathrooms were a bit bigger! But for one night it's perfect!
Very comfortable place to rest after a long drive out of Texas. Love the cleanliness of the facility. Can't say enough good things about this place we've stayed for the past 6 yrs. Everybody is willing to help you.
Just right: Location, staff, breakfast, room size and lighting! We were on the back so highway noise wasn't a problem. Parking was a little confusing-but there was plenty. The truck stop across the street makes pulling out a little stressful. Be careful.
We've stayed here twice and they stay on top of upgrades and cleanliness. This trip, all the towels had been replaced with big fluffy ones- high quality for any price hotel and we often stay at $200+/ night facilities. The rooms are large and there's extra counter space in the bathrooms. The tub/shower and commode were new. The bed and pillows were comfortable. There is noise from trains and the Love's across the street but the noisy AC helps hide that. Frankly I'm not sure you can avoid the noise anywhere in small town Clayton.
the rooms where nice and beds comfortable the breakfast was very good fresh and lots of local flavor with red and green sauce New Mexico style good hot coffee after a 8 hour drive we decide to stay the night we slept great hit the road refreshed the reason for the 4 stars is the tub was suppose to be a jacuzzi did not work but they refunded the difference
Our stay was affordable. Rooms were neat and clean. The breakfast was really good. The lady that was serving was super nice. Loved the decor in the room. Has a nice to walk your dogs. Some rooms over look the pool with a neat little table. Pool needed to be vacuumed.
We stayed here on our way through New Mexico to get to Arizona. We checked in later in the evening and were very glad to have a very smooth check in process. We were on second floor, which was a bit of a disappointment after a 10 hour on the road day because there are only stairs, lol, but it was ok. Breakfast was hot and tasted good and there was a fairly ok selection to fuel us up before heading back on the road for another long travel day. The gas station right across the road was also nice. As was the pizza hut nearby to grab a quick bite before bed.
This is a great place to stay in an area with few options. Clayton is small town, but it is a hub for travelers. We were coming from Colorado and were very tired. The rooms were amazing and the staff very helpful and friendly.
We have stayed here several times while traveling to Colorado. The quality of the rooms decline with each visit. First the positive. Staff is welcoming and breakfast is good. Now the problems. Lots of flies in the room. The motel placed a fly swatter in the room and we got at least six: there were more. Decor is very dark and in need of updating.
I killed 6 flies with my flip flop before we called the front desk. She said there is supposed to be a flyswatter in the room but she brought us one. I think they were crawling in under the door. I don't know but it seemed like an endless task killing them and we left the door closed. The beds slept well and the towels were big and new. The internet was junk. It would not stay hooked up and we were trying to book more rooms up the road. There was plenty of ice in the machine. Breakfast was maybe a pinch better than usual. Dumas has the same fly problem. Maybe it's just the area.
We have stayed at this Best Western at least 20 times over the years and always found it to be a great place to stay while on the road. It is right on our way to our favorite summer vacation destination (Colorado Rockies) and just the right distance to make the trip in two days. We always try to stay there both coming and going. Their pet friendly attitude is very helpful too.
Hotel was fine. Room was clean. Swimming pool was very dirty. Disappointing for kids who looked forward to swimming all day and was a main amenity I was looking for in a hotel. Breakfast was good. Pool should be clean and well kept as shown online.
Clean room, nice staff, great breakfast. This looks popular - get your reservation in advance. We got in late to a full hotel (the desk is staffed at night). We woke up the next day, enjoyed breakfast and hauled on out. This is a great place to stop off.
Needed somewhere to stay on July 6, just travelled into NM, to check it off our “states travelled” list. This is located in a small city, book early or you might not get a room in town anywhere. Pros Front desk girls were very courteous Gas station literally across the street Great breakfast options, one of our favorite breakfasts by far, no powdered eggs. Breakfast area is small, located behind the front office Beds were comfy, a complete surprise and not like most hotels. Cons Stairs to second floor only, stairs are outside facing the tiny parking lot, request the first floor if your unable to use the stairs without assistance. Trains run behind the hotel, they would blast their horns even when running through the night, this didn't bother us as we drowned out the noise with an additional fan, but it could be problematic to light sleepers. Girl working breakfast area asked me what my room numbers was, as I was waiting in line to get food for my kids. She did this to me, yet didn't ask the 3 people ahead of me in line, nor did she ask my husband. Definitely felt as if I had been singled out as I've never been asked that at any of the hotels I've ever stayed at. Overall a good hotel, the biggest minus was the lady at breakfast.
We drive every year from Houston to NW Colorado and this year we stopped at this hotel for the night. The service was great, rooms neat, pet friendly and an early breakfast that was just fine. I made he reservation on line and then called the hotel to confirm, especially for our small dog. Very pleasant on the phone and marked our room for a location closest to the dog park. Really made me feel they take an interest in their guests!
The room was great except for the broken shower pull knob in room 117. You cannot grab it with your fingers to turn off the shower. Cool a/c, great breakfast, wipe down towels for the MC's to boot. Quiet location which is across the street from gas and groceries be if needed.
Very nice hotel in a good location. Rooms clean and quite, nice pool, dog walking area with tables and chairs plus they provide doggy bags for a nice clean are and very friendly staff. Restaurants within walking distance.
This was our 3rd stay at this hotel. We travel with our 2 Chihuahuas and originally found this hotel in the AAA pet-friendly hotel guide. Dog treats on arrival, nice touch. It is very well maintained inside and out. There is a nice sized pet area for walking your pet where bags and bin are provided. There is also a large parking lot for large vehicles. There is a restaurant next door which provides a complimentary breakfast for hotel guests. We would definitely stay here again.
This is an excellent Best Western ! The beds are really comfortable and the room was very quiet! I love this hotel because you can park right in front of the door and it is easy to take your suitcase inside the room!! The breakfast was excellent and they had gluten free bread!!
Great place to have stayed. Safe location and excellent facilities! We arrived late and the check in staff was very helpful, nice and accomodating. We had children and worried about a safe place to park our boat. We were impressed that all of our needs were met and expectations were exceeded in this location!
But the Kokopelli is getting close. Had a great room, breakfast was very good and everyone was really nice. Had a great night sleep and plan on coming back to this property soon. I often mention the quality of the breakfast. Some properties just do it better than others. Same basic product, but somehow properties like the Kokopelli have it figured out. I have stayed at this property many times since the place opened. The room I was in this time had been remodeled, and was very nice. Slept well, and isn't that what we all want anyway?
The staff, room, food and amenities we excellent. Definitely staying here again in the future. The town is full of a lot of history and the surrounding area has a lot of adventurous things to do. Will be planning a family vacation here soon.
The hotel team was courteous, helpful, and kind. The desk followed up within the first hour to ensure that we were completely happy with the room. We have never had this happen before. We appreciate the attention to detail and kindness.
This is a good place to stay when traveling through this small town. The staff were efficient and friendly. Even though the hotel is a little dated, it felt perfectly clean and safe. I will stay here on my next trip through town.
Hotel is ok. It was clean and probably the best hotel in Clayton. The train passes right behind and the night we came through decided to blow its horn at 1 am forever. Room was good size and the beds were comfortable. Over all the service was friendly and good. Breakfast was also decent bit overall the hotel was just average in my opinion.
Great place to stop over when traveling from Alabama to Colorado. Comfortable beds and great breakfast. Staff is always friendly and welcoming. Beds are comfortable and the rooms are always clean and ready for a good night sleep.
The BW here was a great stopover. Room was quiet, clean, good temperature. Bed comfortable. The grounds are clean. The staff very helpful. Nothing to complain about. Breakfast was real food. Great restaurant across the street.
This placed lives up to its ratings. Clean, well taken care of, great breakfast. We will definitely stay here again. They have a neat dog park which is convenient for waking your pets and getting them to do their business. Really nice place for your family and up to two dogs.
We travel from Texas to Colorado several times a year. The Kokopeli is always our preferred stop. It's clean and comfortable and the breakfast is substantial and reallly quite delicious. If you have a dog the Kokopeli gets even more stars. It has a wonderful dog park area.
We have stayed at the Kokopelli many times on our trips to Colorado and or New Mexico sking. They have always been clean well appointed rooms (including a huge bathroom), friendly and provide a great breakfast.
Nicely decorated place with enough green space to walk our Golden Doodle. It is right on a busy road, but the road noise is not bad in the rooms. Convenient to liquor store and convenience store right across the street. The beds were very comfortable with crisp sheets. Our king room on the second floor (224) had a great shower with good water pressure. Front desk folks are very responsive and helpful. Breakfast was a surprise with all the usual plus green chiles, tortillas, grits, and pancakes. Pet fee was $10. Check out the lovely artisan jewelry for sale in the lobby showcase. Would stay here again!
We stopped here on a road trip. It was everything folks have said. Clean, friendly, easy access. I wouldn't give it 5 stars, but 4.5 appropriate. Will definitely stay here again. Breakfast is a little sparse. Coffee better than expected.
Stopped here overnight to CO. Rooms were spacious and clean. Breakfast surprisingly good — healthier than one's average hotel buffet. All the staff extremely friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again. Shower hot and strong, and ample clean towels. Lots of parking.
My family and I stopped here for the night while traveling, and we loved it! The rooms are fun, and, more importantly, very clean! Breakfast was very good, and the ladies putting breakfast together (Amber and the cook) were very sweet and thoughtful, as was everyone at the front desk. I highly recommend staying here!
It's always difficult to find a comfortable place to rest after driving all day. This Best Western was one of the best we've ever run into! Helpful staff, delicious complimentary full breakfast included several gluten-free options, and the charm of an old motel, pulling our car right up to the room's door. Our room was meticulously kept, clean and comfortable beds, complimentary coffee and toiletries. If you find yourself in this northern corner of New Mexico as we did while driving from Colorado to Texas, you can book with confidence. Excellent stay.
We were checked in by a very helpful, kind young lady at the desk. We were given key cards that didn't work, so had to go back to the desk. Once we got into the room, we found it very clean and quiet except for the train whistles about 3:00am. When showering, my husband found himself standing in water, as the tub was not draining well. The breakfast offered was very good. The area was kept very clean. There was coffee, juices, sausage, scrambled eggs, cereal, oatmeal and much more.
This was my favorite stop along my route between Oregon and Texas. The service was exceptional, everything was so clean and comfy, and I loved that I could park my car right next to my room. I slept great at this quaint little hotel way out in nowhere. When I was trying to decide where to spend the night I had to choose by photo's., and I was very leery about this place based on the old looking building and some of the interior photos BUT was I ever wrong! The welcoming environment created by the staff made me fall in love with this place as soon as I checked in. This is a wonderful spot to spend the night. It's an old motel that's been repurposed into a great place to stay. The beds were very comfortable and everything smelled great and looked adorable.
Hard to say anything different from all the other reviews.... The rooms look like they were finished an hour before we checked in. They were so clean and in such super shape. So here is the best thing these folks can do for us....... Teach all the other hotel people how it's properly done! .
The room was clean but the wifi was not very good as it kept coming and going. Also be sure to keep the door closed because flies will get in. It is conveniently located near the gas station and (if you're old enough) the liquor store. I would only stay the night though not any longer.
This is a lovely hotel. Newly remodeled. Everything is new and very clean. Our room was quiet and comfortable. Towels were large!!! Breakfast was hearty and hot with lovely ladies working the dining room.
Room was very clean and very adequate, staff was extremely polite, helpful!! The staff made the whole stay wonderful. If going through Clayton, NM only place I would stay!! The room had fridge, ironing board, coffer maker, and the breakfast was OUT OF THIS WORLD!!
We stayed here on our way to Colorado, and we will definitely not hesitate to stay there again in the future! It is a well-maintained property with a nice seating area for a picnic (in nice weather), nice place to take the dogs to walk around, and best of all the hotel room was sparkling clean! Another great asset was the very fresh breakfast that is served with real, fresh cracked eggs! Another nice addition to our stay was no pet fee applied. The front desk people were very helpful and pleasant and it overall was a nice experience!
Great place! Owner takes pride! American owned! Stayed 10 years ago and it was just as good now as then! Small town pride at its best.. asset to Clayton New Mexico. Also great stopping point for Colorado.
We love this hotel. We plan our trips around staying here when possible. The staff is great, the place is always clean and comfortable. They have oversized parking if you have a trailer in tow. They have local handmade items for sale. They are well located. But the BREAKFAST is hands down the best hot breakfast anywhere we have ever stayed! We never regret our stays here.
Clean comfortable hotel with a friendly staff. Nice place to stay when traveling between Texas and New Mexico. Good breakfast selection. Dining options in Clayton are limited. The Taco Truck is a fun experience for dinner.
This is probably the cleanest motel I've ever stayed at. People who work here seem genuinely happy and friendly. It is one of the quietest places I've ever stayed, and I'm a very light sleeper. The green chili on the breakfast buffet is outstanding! I always try to time my travels to spend the night here.
A very pleasant surprise in Clayton. It is an older motel with exterior entrance and has been remodeled in recent years. The lobby entrance is welcoming but with stairs so someone might have to search for the ramp entrance or go around to the back to enter the lobby from the back parking area. Lobby is both reception area and gift shop. Rooms are large and clean with nice linens and towels. WiFi was fine. Best surprise was the really great breakfast. We normally skip hotel breakfast bars because most of them are now so sub-standard. This one was over the top. Good coffee, fresh homemade muffins, real eggs, etc...just remember to know your room number so the attendant can write it down...not really sure what that is all about...The dog area is large and grassy and supplied with bags and trash bin. Very lovely hotel in a small town.
Headed to Taos on the scenic route and spent the night at this older Best Western property and were pleasantly surprised. It is well kept up with clean rooms, a friendly staff at check in and check out, and the free breakfast was one of the best we've ever had. If you're coming from the Texas/Oklahoma panhandle, Kansas, or eastern Colorado it's a great stop for an easy 3 hour drive to Taos via Cimmaron.
The Best Wester "Kokopelli" Lodge is the most beautiful overnight experience we have had in many years! The staff are highly qualified and friendly. The rooms are like visiting a beautiful art gallery! What a pleasurable experience.
We stayed in an older style motel. Which we had not done for a long time. It was updated and clean. The people were very friendly and helpful. It was a little difficult taking suitcases up steps to the second floor. Be nice if they put older couples on the first floor however we could have asked & didn't. They did have dogs accepted on the ground floor. The gift shop was also very nice.
We have stayed here a coupe of times as we travel from Denver to Dallas- and back- Check in is easy and the staff is very helpful- they even called our room after 30 minutes or so to check and see if the room was to our satisfaction. The complimentary breakfast is one of the best I have ever had - well worth the price of the room- it was restaurant quality - The rooms are clean, neat and roomy- bathroom towels are top quality - only negative is the slow speed of the wi-fi-,
We chose to stay here for our first overnight in Clayton, partially based on previous reviews. Staff there was very friendly and helpful. I asked for a quiet room with two queen beds and room 219 was exactly what I requested. Southwestern decor was quite attractive, and the room was very comfortable. Nice touch was seating for two with a little table at the side of the room. The sink was separate from the toilet and shower, and this is a nice feature. Having a bench for luggage was also a nice touch. We were able to chill our bottle of wine in the small fridge. Beds were quite comfortable, and extra pillows were very good. I had no difficulty with the WiFi in the room so access to my IPad was easy. The heater was a bit noisy, but we were pleased overall. It was possible to hear the trains rumble through town, but that did not really disturb our sleep. Their breakfast included fresh scrambled eggs, sausage, grits, potatoes, biscuits and gravy, etc. Nice touch was salsa and jalapeños. The coffee could have been hotter, but the food choices were varied enough to please anyone.
We are so impressed with Kokopelli BW that we make a point to stay there when we are going through Clayton, NM. The rooms are clean and roomy. We travel with a pet and they are very accommodating in that respect. The pet park is very nice and handy. The breakfast was great. Will continue to stay there any time we are in the area.
Easy check-in. Staff helpful. Good breakfast with attentive attendant. Bed was ok and room was clean with plenty of towels for two of us. Not much to do in Clayton NM but staff helped with where to eat at night.
We have stayed here many times when traveling between Colorado and Texas. Staff is very friendly and great. Love that it is pet friendly although we didn't have pets this time. Breakfast is simple but good.
We have stayed at this hotel on several occasions and the service is ALWAYS top-notch. The breakfast buffet is outstanding. Don't get me started on their Wi-Fi! To put it nicely, it really doesn't exist! Thank goodness we have mobile hot spots with our cellular plan, or we'd still be looking for an Internet connection.
This is an extremely clean and wonderful hotel. The breakfast was amazing! Great place to stay!!!! The hotel is dog friendly. Has a beautiful park to Walk dog in. Parking for oversized trailers. I would stay here time and time again. The owners should be proud of how clean this hotel is.
The check-in staff was very pleasant. The cleanliness of the room was marginal - didn't want to walk on the carpeting barefoot. Bed was just fine. Pillows weren't my favorite - this could be personal preference. Breakfast was inferior. Breakfast staff needs to learn more customer service skills. For the price of the room, we most likely will not stay there again. Next night was spent in another hotel that cost 1/3rd less and was much more to our standards. Even though a truck stop was directly across the street, thankfully we did not hear the truck traffic during the night.
I will stay here anytime I'm in the area / Breakfast was the best i've had at a best western /rooms were clean and comfortable / staff was super friendly / I was traveling through NM with my mother and daughter so we had two rooms / we all agreed this was the best hotel we had stayed at during the entire trip. So much so we stay in here again on our way back.
This hotel was nice and clean. Not very much outside noise but some. Big enough for two people. Bath tub was very slippery so it needs a rubber mat. Breakfast was very good and had a TV to keep up with the news and weather for the day. Check in and out was very good as well. Our room was across the street , but short walk to breakfast area. Overall everything was good for us.
Our family of 5 were traveling to Red River and decided to stop for the night. We were very pleasantly suprised by this little motel. The employees were friendly, the room was great, and breakfast was plentiful. Thank you for the great stay!
This Best Western is always very nice,I have stayed here before & I recommend it to everyone. The staff is excellent, friendly & welcoming, and the breakfast is always very good. It is an easy location to get in & out of. Jonathan
This place was awesome, from check-in to check-out. My husband hurt his back during our multi-state, multi-day road trip and when we realized we would not be making it to our destination the night we were in Clayton, we called Best Western first. Not only was the employee on the phone pleasant to talk to, but she also helped us get into a ground-floor unit. The room was... roomy, the staff were a delight, the bed was comfortable, the reception area looked like a gift shop, and the breakfast was awesome! The highlight of the stay was the breakfast. Not only was there hot food choices available, but they offered gluten-free and dairy-free options on request. Since my husband has food "issues", it was nice to be able to provide him something other than oatmeal for breakfast that was also hot food (after 10 days oatmeal got...pardon the pun... hard to swallow). Kudos to this Best Western. We will definitely stay here again next time we're in the area.
This would be a very nice place to stay but I can only recommend it if you're travelling with an animal. If you don't like dogs or can't be around them for whatever reason, this is not your place. Even if the front desk promises your room has never had pets in it, it has. I speak from experience.
Very pleasant staff, very clean and comfortable room and exceptional Breakfast. Great area for walking my dog or just sitting outside in a pleasant environment. Will definitely stay again when I'm in the area.
We've been staying at this Best Western over the last ten years or so whenever we're en route to New Mexico, Colorado and other western destinations. Clean and comfortable with spacious rooms. Serves good breakfast in a comfortable breakfast dining room.
Check in at desk was great, most helpful young lady. Had trucks full and towing Side by sides. Assured us it's safe there, they do have oversized parking and cameras. Room was just fine for a stop over. Breakfast in morning was good with again great staff. Told me my cinnamon roll would be even better nuked, she did that and it was yummy. Was a quiet night sleep, easy check out, no problems here! Would stay here again for sure.
On the way out, I was very disappointed with the room and service at the Hotel Eklund, so on the way back I paid extra to stay at the Best Western. My advice is to eat at the Eklund, but stay at the Best Western. Really nice room with professional staff and modern services.
Good hotel for an overnight stay during travel - very clean, comfortable room, convenient location and excellent breakfast. The rooms do need brighter lighting for reading. We would stay here again while traveling in this location.
This is by far the best small town motel in the country. Great accommodations, wonderful people, and a fantastic breakfast. We actually re-routed our schedule so we could stay there on the way home. Can't say enough about this place.
Enjoyed our stay here, as always. This is a pleasant place to stay on our travel from Fort Worth to Fort Collins. The breakfast offered is a great way to start the day! Especially enjoy the real scrambled eggs and other "from scratch" offerings.
Staff is friendly and professional. Rooms are clean and attractive. Breakfast is fresh-tasting. The only difficulty we had was with logging onto the internet, but we were too tired to call for assistance.
Clean, Friendly, Comfortable, Great Decor yet simple. Great Value. Make this trip via route very often, first time stop overnight at this location. Will start making this a regular overnight stop on this 1500 mile trip.
Great spot along the highway and close to the Loves and a few restaurants. Everything in the hotel is stylish and clean. Friendly staff. Great breakfast. Downside is the train horns and some road noise. Oh, and an archaic internet connection.
We were pleasantly surprised to find a clean pleasantly decorated lodging in such a small town. Execellent remodel of what appears to have been an older structure. Staff was friendly and professional.
Needed a one night stay while on a road trip and this was a great find. Easy location to find, parking for trailers, nearby dining. Room was clean, quiet and well appointed. Breakfast outstanding! Great experience.
We were just passing through Clayton on a long drive and decided to stop for the night at this hotel based on Trip Advisor reviews. The room was more upscale than we expected and the hotel had amenities like workout room that we didn't think we'd see in small town motel. Though there is a train track nearby (as in every small town), the noise was minimal. The buffet breakfast was fantastic!! Local green and red chili sauces, pastries that they warmed for us, plentiful sausages, eggs, biscuits and gravy, fried potatoes--our quick overnight stop turned into a surprisingly pleasant stay!
I always stay at this hotel when I am in Clayton. The staff are friendly and helpful. They serve a wonderful breakfast. Great place to stay! I would highly recommend this hotel for your next stay in Clayton.
I specifically chose this hotel because it's dog friendly. The staff was very helpful and friendly, rooms are nicely furnished and very comfortable, the internet was ok (not the fastest but still usable to check email and whatnot). The best feature was the mini dog park at the property. If you're traveling with pets, I highly recommend this hotel.
Very clean, friendly and professional staff, great breakfast, great place to stay. Pet friendly with yard dedicated to pet business! We've stayed at least a dozen times over the past 10 years and never have had any issues or complaints. The lobby has beautiful pottery and jewelry for sale. The pool is clean and inviting, gas station across the street and ample parking.
Great place to stay and great breakfast selection. Friendly staff and clean room. Location was good as well. Overall we would recommend this hotel for all the reasons stated. Quiet environment even though it was on the highway.
We were especially impressed with the friendly staff and how they went out of their way to make us feel at home. The room was very comfortable and the location was great. We are so happy that we stayed there.
We regularly are going for my home in Austin Texas to Denver and we probably passed this hotel hundred times. Due to weather we decided to stay in Clayton and we from the Best Western. What a surprise. The Best!!
After we returned from our trip, we noted this was the most expense BW property of six we stayed at including two plus properties. By 35%. We wanted to stay here, because we had a prior stay the was a good value. Suggest you price compare before you book.
This hotel was better than average, but doesn't rate a 'Very Good'. We enjoyed our night and with few options in this corner of the world, we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. The room was clean, the beds were OK, the free breakfast was very impressive.
Room was very dark and damp. There was a strong perfume deodorizer smell combined with the small of bug spray. Very dated furnishings, carpet, etc. We have stayed at this property several times, but this time, our room was not great.
Just a great experience! Great value! Great home cooked breakfast! Front desk could not be more pleasant & accommodating! Got to motel late in a rainstorm after driving all day. Owner's son manning front desk. Super pleasant. Brought me my rewards info-was already a member-through the rain just to get me the number for the future! Can't bear that! Very pleasant room. Quiet. Strong recommendation!
Well-maintained facility. Great job updating to modern conveniences without losing the original quaintness and local flavor. Really friendly and helpful staff at check in and at breakfast. Great breakfast with REAL eggs and REAL sausage! We were lucky to get the only parking spot left, but the motel was full, and we had a late arrival. Parking lot would be my only real concern with this place.
There was a very good area for children and dogs. The front desk recommended a great restaurant for dinner. The beds were hard need to put foam on bed. We were on second floor no elevator hard to get luggage up stairs.
We got a room online while traveling. Great hotel. We would stay here again. Nice hot breakfast. Clean room. Internet was a nice bonus. Extra parking area for trailers which helped us. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Midway home, this is our go-to BW! It is clean, reasonable rates, allow pets, has a doggie area, and has a great breakfast. Staff are outstanding! There are several good places to eat within waling distance and a gas station nearby. We have stayed at this BW for several years on our way to and from Colorado :-)
We stayed here when we passed through Clayton on a long rode trip. We were very happy with our stay. Roomy clean nicely done room, very very comfortable bed, fabulous service from everyone, good breakfast. We were a little sad to leave!
It was a very pleasant stay. We had a range of ages from 11 years old up to 58 years old & everyone thought breakfast was the best. There was something for everyone to eat & some of the kids favorites as well as grandpa's!
Very nice hotel staff. The grounds were well kept, there was an area for us to walk our dogs, a nice swimming pool and a jacuzzi bathtub. The beds were super comfortable. And BW accepts dogs of all sizes with only a $10 charge for each pet.
The Kokopelli Lodge is always the best! We always try to stay here when traveling to New Mexico and Colorado from our home in Oklahoma. The staff employees are the best in the business. The breakfast are always as good or better than any restaurant.
Excellent decor, very kind and caring staff, the breakfast was AMAZING. The green chili salsa on the breakfast buffet was EXCELLENT. Best breakfast in New Mexico! My son calls this the "Indian Hotel" because of the cool Native American decorations. We will for sure stay here again! Loved it.
Stayed here only one quick night. Didn't have time to use all of their facilities. Friendly staff at check-in, clean rooms, breakfast is average for what you would expect at these hotels. Was hoping for a few more options with breakfast.
We recently finished a family trip in which we spent over 10 nights in hotels and motels. We stayed in this BW our first night out and this motel was one of the nicest we stayed at. When you enter this BW, the first thing you see is the beautifully decorated lobby area. Lot's of New Mexican/native american art and jewelry. These art themes were continued effectively in our motel room. Other than the decorations, the room was a little better than the average motel room. It was clean, had a refrigerator, and met our needs. The breakfast the next day was really special. There was a buffet line with all the makings for breakfast tacos, including red and green chilies. There was a staff person working on the line to ensure that the lines were fresh and the breakfast area was clean. In addition, there are 2 coffee bars in the dining room and multiple seating areas. This motel started our trip off on a positive foot. The staff was really friendly, It did a really good job of showing off some of the best of New Mexico and Best Western.
Very nice and comfortable, staff was well mannered and very professional. Very clean rooms, beds were comfortable, breakfast was exceptionally worth the stay alone. Very fast check on and check out....
Moderate room rate, clean and comfortable rooms, above par included breakfast, all coupled with friendly staff makes this a definite hotel to use when passing through NE New Mexico! Conveniently located, this Best Western is an A+++++ hotel with professional and helpful staff and amenities!
Our children and grandchildren visited us in Wyoming from Houston, Texas. Instead of them driving for 20+ hours straight through, I told them to use my rewards points to stay mid-way. They ended up getting a free stay for the evening. My daughter stated that there were no other lodging accommodations in the area and she was grateful for us reserving their room in Clayton for the evening. Long drive for 2 adults with 3 teenagers! I am happy to report that they were very pleased with the hotel, staff, and accommodations there. She said that would be their stopping point for future trips. Thank you so much for taking care of my family, when I cannot! Robin Wellhouse
Though the town is not exactly "nice" or a place to walk your kids, the hotel is great. Its clean, and located right across from a large gas station for quick snacks or gas in the morning. The ladies at the front are nice and efficient. The breakfast is a bit better than your normal continental and the staff in the breakfast area are really nice as well. We had no problems or complaints.
We had the pleasure of staying on a sunday night in the sleepy little town of Clayton, NM. The room was up to date, and the sheets and linens crisp and clean. The staff could not have been more accommodating, and our special requests for a lower floor..knee replacment..and extras towels were ready when we checked in. A highlight was the complimentary breakfast with many different choices, all which were very tasty. All in all, this was a gem in the middle of the prairie.
Appearance of the Motel was good and the front lobby as well. The basic necessities was provided and clean as expected. I do not have much more to add but I could not continue to the next part of this survey with typing additional words which I may add, should be changed.
This hotel is great! The staff are friendly, helpful, and happy. T he rooms are clean and comfortable. We got a courtesy call from the front desk about an hour after we got settled in our room to see if we were OK or needed anything. This is not a typical occurrence at the hotels we have stayed in before. We went to the breakfast in the morning and there was a good variety of foods to choose from and it was very good tasting. We Will be back.
This is a superior Best Western and a hospitality highlight for Clayton. Check-in, complete with doggie treats, was friendly and easy. The property is uniquely decorated in New Mexican style with everything freshly painted and in beautiful condition. The pool and surrounding grounds are lovely. Very nice Native American jewelry, etc in the lobby area. The highlight was the authentic northern New Mexico cuisine served at breakfast. Homemade red and green chile accompanied eggs. Biscuits and gravy with great sausage were all house prepared. Kokopelli served the best breakfast we have had at a Best Western. Bill Cook, manager, was wonderful. Highly recommend if you are in Clayton.
For reference, I rate typical BWs 3-stars and typical Hamptons are 4-stars. We enjoy the BW brand because they are all different, similar to Forest Gump's "... like a box full of chocolates..." Assuming you have stayed at other BWs, then you know that the room layout and furnishings are basic. Our room was clean, the bed comfortable, and all the appliances functional. The property appeared well maintained, with a swimming pool, shuffleboard court, and a grassy area with outdoor tables and chairs. Hotel staff were friendly and professional. The complimentary breakfast was above average. Tortillas and Red and Green chili sauces added a traditional southwestern flare. There are a couple of local restaurants within 5-blocks. This part of NM/OK/TX is sparsely populated. Dalhart, TX is about 35 miles to the south and Springer, NM is about 85 miles to the west. The morning after our stay the BW parking lot was full, I recommend making reservations.
One of our best hotel experiences. Extremely clean, excellent breakfast buffet, organic products (soap, shampoo, lotion), crafts in lobby for purchase, comfortable beds, unique décor - not cookie cutter, helpful & knowledgeable staff.
We stayed here on our way to Colorado. Our room was very nice and clean. Staff was very nice. The breakfast was great. The pool was nice and clean. It was a good place to stay if you are traveling out west.
My boyfriend and I checked in here one evening after receiving a refund from a nearby chain hotel after a not-so-good experience. We were lucky to obtain the last room they had for the night, and I can see why they sell out. We stayed in a downstairs King room by the pool. The room was beautifully decorated and exceptionally clean. The bed was very comfortable. We would have slept very well if not for the guests in the room above us walking around starting at 4:00 am and continued until check-out. That happens at every hotel though. Also, lots of noise from outside the room starting early in the morning with people coming down the staircase and packing their cars. That is really my only complaint and that's no fault of the hotel. If we were to stay again, I would request a 2nd level room, at the end not by the pool or a staircase. The breakfast was definitely above par for similar hotels. Was kept well stocked even in the last hour. Very helpful and friendly front desk and breakfast attendant. If you have to stay in clayton for the night, this is definitely the hotel to stay in.
We have stayed at Kokopelli Lodge six times, and will always stay there whenever we travel west through New Mexico. The entire staff is friendly and very helpful, and create a very positive environment for a pleasant stay. The room decor is very attractive in the Southwest theme, and even small amenities such as shampoos and lotions are nicer than average. You will enjoy the free breakfast that features a wait staff and breakfast burritos as an option. You can also shop for jewelry and gifts by area artists in the lobby. You will not be disappointed! If you stay there, be sure to visit Clayton State Park, only a 15-minute drive. You'll pass through beautiful high plains with antelope grazing and end up at a beautiful park. We pack a picnic dinner, grill out in one of the picnic pavilions, and then take the short hike over the lake dam to view the dinosaur tracks. Amazing. We end the day with a trek along the nature trail (lots of deer and birds) and a viewing of the endless night sky and stars, a designated International Dark Sky site. This little park is a gem.
What a pleasant surprise! This was a very nice hotel, from check in through breakfast the next morning. Check in was quick and easy, room was very clean and spacious, shower great with absorbent towels and breakfast truly a "full breakfast". Real eggs (not powdered), sausage, grits, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, fruit salad and lots more. Would definitely stay here again!!
Every employee from the front desk to the cleaning service worked hard to see that our stay was total perfection. The Indian decor was a pleasant plus for both shopping and history. The breakfast was the best of our trip.
The Kokopelli Lodge is a gem of a hotel. The breakfast is wonderful, the decor is welcoming, and the little details from the toiletries to the breakfast sausage to the art and jewelry on display all speak to a place that is loved and that serves from a place of love. I highly recommend it--I even plan our road trips to pass through Clayton when possible just to stay here.
This is the best place in town - bit note it is a motel structure - it is clean. Get to breakfast early or it will be out. Coffee is weak, so bring a back up. The town is cute, it seems safe. In my opinion overpriced. Good internet, but plastic bathtub that moves....terrible soap - smells like toilet cleaner - do not use.
We stay at this hotel/motel every year as we travel from Texas to Colorado. The decor is amazing (and you can buy some of these items); but they even decorate the rooms with the indian items. The people are helpful and always available. I don't hear others through walls. The breakfast is made on site and so special. Blueberry pancakes this trip -- out of this world.
The facility isn't new but you can't tell. The updates keep it timeless and the friendly staff do anything they can to make your stay perfect. We love to stop here as we travel to and from Colorado. It's a gem.
We were on our way to Colorado and needed a place to stay for one night. We reserved 3 rooms. The reviews were excellent and I couldn't agree more. The rooms are immaculate and look like they have just been renovated. The pool is very nice. There is a large side yard with green grass and trees where my grandkids and grand dog could play instead of hanging out in the room. Everyone was very nice. The breakfast was real--real eggs, real ham!! If we are in Clayton again, this will be our destination!
We have been staying here since 1980 and have watched it grow and improve over the years. It has always been friendly and comfortable place to stay. The continuous growth indicates to me that many others agree that this is a great value.
rooms are nice, but not elaborate. staff is very friendly and helpful. breakfast is the best you'll find at a chain motel. real ham, real eggs, real good. nice selection of sauces to complement the meal. nice shop with silver/turquoise jewelry at reasonable prices.
My husband and I stay at this hotel while traveling between Colorado and Texas. It has always exceeded our expectations and we will definitely enjoy staying there again soon! The pool looks very inviting and I can't wait to hop in this summer! I absolutely LOVE the native american themed room decor!
We stayed here on our way from MS to Denver , CO and were very pleased with the choice. The staff told us about the Ekland Hotel's history & we were so glad. We enjoyed dinner there & learned some history about the town. Glad we stayed at Best Western though. It was more comfortable & quiet.
The easy check-in at Kokopelli with the "welcome to New Mexico" motif was nice. Great staff; nice room for the price; good breakfast with "real" eggs. (grits too! yum for me) We'll stay there again!!!
Traveling thru New Mexico from Missouri the towns are small with not many lodging choices. Based on other Reviewers we decided to try this BW in Clayton. Glad we did; front desk ladies were friendly and helpful, rooms were modest but very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was a full meal, not a continental. This is a two story motel with outside doors but we felt very safe. Refrigerator and nice size TV along with WiFi was nice after a long day. We would stay here again.
We stayed at the Kokopelli on our way to Colorado. The hotel was very clean, comfortable, nice decor and pet friendly. Breakfast had a good selection. We were somewhat trapped by a winter storm, and the staff was very accommodating and helpful. Loved the recliner in the room. Will definitely make this a regular stop!
Nice clean well kept rooms and lobby area. Full breakfast with all the fixings. Front office staff were nice and helpful. We had room 222 and it was quite with a king bed and bath tub. We got food from the taco truck, very good.
We felt this was the best hotel in town. The staff was friendly, polite and helpful. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was good. We had to stay in Clayton an additional night when the road to Denver was closed due to a snow storm. The front desk made the changes needed to allow us to stay in the same room.
The road was closed between Clayton and Raton so we were stuck. If you had to be stuck, this place was the best. We had a wonderful room, easy access for my elderly parents and very friendly, and helpful staff. I would stay again in a hearbeat.
Comfortable stay at this hotel. We were able to check in early due to a snow storm that closed the roads. The staff went out of their way to get stranded travelers checked in as early as possible. The breakfast is outstanding. The variety is huge, and the eggs are actually cooked on site in a skillet! The fixings for breakfast burritos and homemade cinnamon rolls were wonderful.
We were there for one night when running the Dust Bowl Series. The hotel was clean and comfortable. They did not put out an early breakfast for the runners like some of the other hotels we stayed in did. But under normal circumstances it would be a fine place to stay for a night or two.
Although Clayton, N.M. is a drive through city on our way from Texas to Colorado, we spent the night here. It was a wonderful surprise! Cute, clean, friendly employees, comfortable bed and a breakfast that was better than normal for a place in this price range. Great green chili - have to try it over your eggs. It's definitely going to be our overnight stop in the area.
Front desk staff is superb every time I'm here. Late check in due to work commitments and always helpful! Rooms are always comfortable, clean and inviting. They are always willing to make changes if possible. Love staying here, not to mention the breakfast is fresh and they accommodate your diet if possible. Love this little place!
This motel offers clean, quiet rooms, blackout curtains for privacy and sleeping in, comfy bedding and pillows and a full breakfast. The price is very reasonable and they accept AAA and AARP discounts. Our favorite place to stay when passing through Clayton, NM.
Stayed here on our way to Colorado and we weren't disappointed. Bed was comfy, room was very clean and the breakfast was great! Only negative was the pillows are too small. Not enough to keep us away next time though.
We stopped in Clayton after a long day geocaching in the Texas panhandle before heading up to Colorado to visit friends and family for the holidays. We arrived fairly late in the evening. The gentleman checking me in was friendly and pleasant, with enough information for getting into the room and having breakfast in the morning, but not too much extra talk. I was pretty exhausted, and I'm sure I looked it, so it was a good call. I did notice the lobby was unusual, and had a number of southwestern themed items for sale - nice enough ones that I wouldn't have minded spending more time and money in there. Room was comfortable for the four of us, and I was delighted to find a bath mat in the bathroom for the tub. I've got a bad ankle and bad knees, and slick bathtub floors are one of my terrors in hotels. A flat bottomed tub and a bath mat on top of that? I was extremely grateful. Breakfast in the morning was small, but well stocked. We much appreciated the real eggs used, rather than powdered eggs, and the option to build my own breakfast burrito was much appreciated. My only quibble would have been to have more yogurt flavors available, as I'm not fond of blueberry, but that's just a personal preference. This hotel was a delightful surprise in a small town, and will definitely put Clayton on our preferred stops on our trips to Colorado in future.
There aren't many places to stay in Clayton, but this is definitely a superior experience to many hotels, and an easy choice for future visits. Nice staff, clean and decent rooms, excellent breakfast bar.
We've stayed at Kokopelli Lodge many times on our trips to New Mexico and Colorado; this place never disappoints! Rooms have been updated and are very clean! Breakfast was quite nice with several hot entrees, the bed was comfortable, and the staff was nice! Great place to stay!
This hotel was right on the main road in this small town and convenient to restaurants and gas stations. Made it easier to continue on our way the next morning. Helpful, friendly staff who made us feel at home. Breakfast was plentiful, warm and served on time. Smiles everywhere!!
I would not stay any other place in Clayton, NM. The rooms are excellent and the service is great. The Best Western is located in a good location and access to food and fuel is close by. Breakfast is hot and there is a good selection of hot food and cold and hot beverages for travelers. The work out room is small, but in good condition. The motel is clean and quite.
This hotel exceeded expectations for a 2 star hotel. Room was great, clean with comfortable beds. Breakfast was really good--hot food, many choices not offered at other continental breakfasts. Even had a doggy park. Price was average.
We stayed here on our drive from Houston to Calgary. The hotel itself is motel type style (i.e. old) however the rooms were modern, nicely decorated and clean. The bed was extremely comfortable but the pillows were awful. The bathroom was also clean and functional. The only downside to this hotel is it is near to a rail track which would be fine but every train that went past (day and night) sounded it's horn at least 3 times. I can sleep through most things but not that!
Great hotel. A little dated, but very clean. Comfortable bed. The staff was SUPER nice. The included breakfast was unbelievable. Didn't want to stay in Clayton. I was very pleased with the experience at this hotel. Definitely would stay again.
I would certainly recommend this hotel. The room was very clean and nicely furnished. The towels were large and cozy. The breakfast was great. Lots to choose from. Very tasty. Nice area for pets also.
Clean hotel with great breakfast and nice people. If you find yourself in the middle of no where and need a room, this is your place. Close to grocery store and across the street from Love's gas station.
This hotel was a wonderful surprise, especially for a small town. It was very tastefully decorated in a southwestern decor wherever you looked. Spotlessly clean and friendly. Our room was comfortable and quiet. We will definitely used Best Western as our favorite in any future travels based on our experience with you.
The Best Western Kokopelli lodge in Clayton is a good place to stay. The rooms have exterior entrances, a "motel" type of setup. There is a building in the center of the complex that contains guest registration, a gift shop, a breakfast room and a lounging area for guests, but it looks like this building once contained a restaurant. The breakfast was really good. Guests are given a card with their keys to present to employees in the breakfast room. The room was very clean and had an upholstered bench to sit on in the main room. Maintenance does a good job of keeping everything in good working order. The faucet handle in the shower is a bit tricky and the maintenance man had to explain it to me over the phone. It doesn't turn, it sort of "floats" from side to side. The parking lot for the hotel is rather small. The bed was very comfortable and the TV got a big selection of channels. There are no windows on the back side of the hotel because the hotel is right up against an equipment yard for a construction company. A busy railroad line is only half a block away and they can be heard from the room, but it didn't bother me that much since I live near railroad tracks. Every hotel or motel in Clayton is close to railroad tracks. There is a very busy Love's truck stop across the street and it is a handy place to get whatever you may need, including the cheapest gas in Clayton. The only drawback to this motel is that it is a little on the pricey side, but still in line with, say, a Hampton Inn. There is a state park 11 miles north of Clayton that has a lake, campground and a dinosaur trackway and it is well worth a visit. The design of the motel seems to be from the 1970s era.
This place is clean, has great southwest decor, good location, comfortable beds, even has a cute little doggy park! Breakfast is excellent--hot foods with lots of choices. Could easily be a 2-1/2 or 3 star. Saved a little money booking through priceline.
There aren't a lot of choices when it comes to accommodations in Clayton, New Mexico. An online search of options showed three or four, and some priced higher than I would expect for such a small, out-of-the-way location. The Best Western Kokopelli got my attention because it was priced reasonably compared to the others. We were not disappointed. The lobby was very clean and inviting, lots of beautiful gifts and jewelry were on display from local artists. The staff was very friendly. Though the hotel is really a modernized motel that still has exterior access, the rooms were very well appointed and spacious. The beds -- very comfortable. The bathroom fixtures and tiling was new. The Wi-Fi was free! And so was the full breakfast the next morning. The kitchen was laid out logically which made it easy to figure out where everything was. They even had two staff members manning the chafing dishes full of eggs, ham and sausages. The breakfast featured a wide variety of choices. The dining area was clean. This is an excellent hotel!
This place is clean and room was large and nice. Staff was very friendly, would stay again. Price was a little higher than we expected . Good location and free parking, free breakfast and fast wifi. Bathroom was really large.
We had planned to travel on to Springer, but a late summer hail storm had different ideas. This is an older motel. but very well maintained. Love the people at the front desk, they were so helpful with ideas for restaurants and what we might find down the road. Our room was double booked, but they took care of us. The lobby has a many displays of jewelry/artwork from Native Americans from the Mesa Verde area (where we were headed). Hot breakfast instead of the usual continental fare. Lovely motel and wonderful people.
Stayed at the Best Western Kokopelli Lodge this week on business. They were pretty well booked and I had a 2nd floor room (not fond of carrying luggage up the outdoor steps) but understand they were busy. The rooms are comfortable and they have a lovely breakfast buffet each morning you stay. I regrettably booked my reservation 1-day short of my actual stay. They were so kind to keep me in my room for the night even though they were fully booked! I had left my bags in my room in the morning, of course, and headed to work. They just cleaned as normal and left me a voice mail alerting me to my error. When I stopped in to the front desk, they were kind and understanding, just got me setup for the "extra" night! I truly appreciated the hospitality for sure!
while traveling cross country, we made a one night stop over staying at this motel in clayton, NM. we travel with two dogs. the front desk was very friendly and accommodating, even giving us two doggy teat bags for our pets. the room was very clean and comfortable. there is free wifi connection and a full breakfast is included with the rack rate. all staff were friendly and wanted our stay to be a good one. that it was.
The Best Western Kokopelli Lodge is an older property but has been very well maintained and the rooms have been updated as much as is possible given the style of structure. We have stayed here many times and always find the rooms clean and the beds very comfortable. The breakfast buffet offers many options and is well prepared. Given the distance to other towns with lodging we are always grateful to find availability in the Kokopelli Lodge when we are traveling through Clayton. The only downside to the location is the nearness of a railroad crossing which results in the noise of the train whistle. However, the rooms are well insulated and the noise is only slightly bothersome.
My wife and I were riding our motorcycle to Colorado from near Lubbock, TX, with a one night stay planned in Clayton, NM at the BW Kokopelli Lodge. We were scheduled for a late arrival (Around 10:30 PM). About 17 miles south of Clayton, our bike developed fuel problems and completely shut down. I called the hotel and spoke to Cassandra and explained that we might not be able to make it to the hotel that night. I was prepared to call my roadside assistance and wait it out, but Cassandra said she would call a couple of tow companies that she was aware of and call me back. After not being able to contact anyone with a tow company, she called a personal friend who had a trailer and straps and was willing to drive out and pick us up. We were in our room by 12:30 AM or so, and woke up the next morning to one of the best breakfast buffets we had ever had at a hotel, star rating notwithstanding. The room was clean, reasonably priced, and very welcome for these weary travelers. Everyone treated us wonderfully, but Cassandra and her friend get extra stars from me for going over and beyond what she had to do. Will definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.
This ranks as one of the friendliest staffed hotels I have experienced. Add to that a well designed room and an excellent breakfast and I would return again despite a higher than average price for the area. As a woman traveling alone on this particular stay, I felt very safe and well rested the next morning for another long day of driving. Clayton is an interesting town and relaxing in itself.
We were on a road trip and needed to find a hotel at this point of the drive. We were so pleased with the accommodations and service of this hotel. It had cleanliness in mind as well as comfort. The towels were a great quality. Breakfast buffet had lots of quality choices. Would definitely recommend!
This was by far the best place we stayed at on our vacation. From the large, beautifully decorated rooms (which were also spotless), to the delicious breakfast (which was included), it couldn't have been nicer. Best breakfast we've ever had! Real (not fake) scrambled eggs, sausage, ham, potatoes, biscuits and gravy, cereal, danish rolls, etc. etc. Motel staff were very accommodating and friendly. Will definitely stay here again if passing through this area!
Only stayed one night but very nice comfortable hotel. The people at the front desk were awesome! The rooms were very nicely decorated and the beds were very comfortable. And they had very good breakfast.
My daughter and I were driving from Denver to Austin and hit a thunderstorm outside of Clayton. It was dark and I really wanted to stop traveling for the night. My daughter had stayed at the BW Kokpelli Lodge before and really liked it. As soon as you walk in you realize how unique this a Best Western this is! The lobby is elegantly decorated in a south western decor. There are cases filled with fine Native jewelry and artworks that are for sale. Our 2nd floor room was beautiful! Our balcony had a sweet table and chairs overlooking the pool. I so wanted to sit outside but it was still storming. The beds were very comfortable! Our tub had water jets in it so I had to try it out and it was wonderfully relaxing! The Kokpelli Lodge offered a terrific full breakfast included in the price of the room. Again, there was amazing Native art beautifully displayed throughout. I wanted to buy everything. The rooms and main building are immaculate! The breakfast had a complete selection of everything and staff to make omelets to order. Staff is friendly and kind! Right across the street is gas and a convenient store. I highly recommend this Best Western Kokpelli Lodge as a perfect place to stay!
This was a really nice hotel for the population of the city. The rooms had a New Mexico vibe and a large vanity sink apart from the shower and toilet area. This made getting dress with two people a lot easier. The parking was adequate. Breakfast and the gift shop were a nice touch. The mattress was quite comfortable no sinking whole in the bed.
Booked a night here based on other reviews. It was exactly as advertised on their site as well as in the reviews. Very clean and neat. Quieter than others as traffic is slower in this part of town. Did no hear traffic during the night. Lobby has extensive display of NM jewelry and other art for sale. Breakfast was fresh using real eggs instead of powdered or frozen. Lots of other items including jar and fresh fruits. Front desk called 30 minutes after we were in our room too check if everything was satisfactory. This will definitely be a repeat stop for us whenever traveling to/from Central Colorado.
The Best Western in Clayton New Mexico had an excellent staff. The overstaff was very friendly and helpful throughout my stay. The breakfast was very good and the quality of food was good. The overall cleanliness of the hotel was good as was the quality of the food and restaurant. I would recommend this hotel and would definitely stay there again on any future travel through the area. The hotel is centrally located and there is a LOVE's covalence/gas station directly across the street for easy access as well.
I enjoyed our stay at this Best Western due to the quiet and clean facilities and grounds. The breakfast was quite a spread of choices and one of the best complimentary breakfasts that I have ever seen. They had hot scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits, fruit, yogurt, cereal, coffee and other assorted items. The hotel help overseeing the breakfast was really nice and helpful! I also enjoyed looking at their southwestern themed items in their gift shop. The gift shop starts in the lobby and ranges into the breakfast area. We stayed in one of the handicap rooms and there was room for a wheelchair in the bathroom. I have found that not all "handicap accessible" rooms are built with wheelchairs in mind but this one would do!
The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff was helpful and friendly! Breakfast is always excellent! There are also dog friendly, and there is a very nice area to walk your dogs. I would definitely recommend this hotel!
Hotel and rooms were decorated nicely with southwestern feel. Vaulted ceiling made the room feel very large. Bed not so comfy. Good breakfast but very crowded small breakfast area. Nice pool and grassy area for pets and relaxing. Lobby area was nice and had computer with printer to use to print fishing licenses since everything in town was closed up very early. Looks like nicest place to stay in area.
Have stayed here for many years traveling from Texas to Colorado. Has always been clean and looks like it has just been updated everytime we stay. Very friendly for pets and have a breakfast that is included in the rate with lots of fresh items and variety. Will continue to stop here for a very good rest everytime.
Our favorite place to stay en route to CO. Be sure to grab a plate of enchiladas at the Rabbit Ear as well. Breakfast in the AM is a full breakfast with a wide selection to start your day. Worth the stay so you can see the beautiful landscape of northern NM on your way to Raton Pass
Really didn't expect to find this gem nearing the end od a 1500 mile trek across the country. This was truly the nicest, cleanest, most hospitable spot we had traveling across the USA. Don't miss the breakfast, not the typical motel cuisine. Thanks so much for a restful stop
We have stayed at this BW lodge several times in the past few years and each time, we are never disappointed! Great location and staff is very friendly and kind. Always clean property and we appreciate the pet-friendly area next to the rooms. Will return again on our next trip west!
By far the best Best Western I have ever stayed at. The facility was very clean - the bed was very comfortable and the towels were very plush. The breakfast was by far was the best I have had at a hotel-eggs, sausage, potatoes, hot sauce, tortillas, biscuits, gravy, fruit, and granola. The staff was very friendly. We will definitely stay here again!!!!
Pet friendly. Clean. Large rooms. Nice sheets & very plump towels. The pillows are lumpy & small but clean overall. South western theme. Breakfast has fresh real eggs & meat. Not much parking...every place full. This is our 3rd stay as we travel from Texas to the mountains of Colorado. Nice stay for the value.
The rooms were updated. The linens good, towels great, shower good. Beds good, multiple pillows. The breakfast was homemade and good. Good place to stay after a long day's drive . We asked on line for 2 bd floor room, clerk was kind enough to make sure that would be ok since there was no elevator but thanks to trip advisor I was already aware:). They also have a great variety of gift items available.
This hotel in Clayton, NM has very clean and nice accommodations for a small town. The staff is friendly and seems to be glad that you chose to stay there. I would not stay anywhere else while in Clayton.
We found this motel to be exceptional in the somewhat small town of Clayton, NM. Staff were polite, rooms were very, very nicely decorated to Southwest motif. Breakfast was fresh made with several hot foods, all delicious! More than we expected.
Nice Best Western in Clayton. Not as new as the Days Inn, but a great room, very clean, nice bathroom and bed. Breakfast was AWESOME, not your typical Best Western breakfast, fresh fruit and lots of extra fixings for a breakfast taco or pancakes, along with a great pastry assortment. Coffee could be a little stronger, but that was the only downside and it was still good tasting. Will be stopping here again if we are through the area.
We are moving cross country and based on reviews we stopped for a night here and it did not disappoint. Rooms were extremely clean and well taken care of which was my #1 priority. We were in 207 and 208. We traveled with 3 adults, 4 children and 1 dog. They even gave us a goody bag of treats for the dog but it was a $10 pet fee in addition to the already expensive rooms. They offered gluten free breakfast options and the ladies who served the food were the nicest and were so sweet to our children ages 1, 3, 4 and 6. This was above and beyond. There is also a cute fish pond and a man even let our kids feed the fish. We also collected beautiful pine cones and enjoyed the nice weather. I would stay here again and recommend. My only complaint was it was the most expensive hotel we booked on our entire trip and restaurant options in the small town were limited. (Maybe 4 restaurants in the town).
Stayed on the way home for a family funeral so we were tired and late arriving. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful although the check-in process was very lengthy - they asked a lot of questions and I had to initial a lot of paperwork. I travel a lot for business and this was the most involved check-in process I have ever experienced. The air conditioner in our first room was broken so the gentleman at the front desk gave us another room and even helped us move our belongings. The breakfast was good. Knowing what else is available in Clayton, I would recommend this establishment although I thought the price was excessive for the type of hotel (outside entrances, older) it was.
We love this motel and plan our trip to stay here whenever we travel to Colorado. The breakfast is very good compared to other Best Western locations with more offerings. The only issue was the motel was full and there was not enough parking.
We stayed at this hotel twice as we drove to Colorado and back to Oklahoma. The rooms were comfortable and well furnished. The swimming pool was appropriately sized for the number of rooms. The breakfast included many options, and everything I ate was delicious. The staff was extremely helpful and courteous. I would definitely stay here again if the situation arose.
I've been coming to this hotel since 2002. My husband and I stay here about once a year. When I'm traveling solo to Taos or to Santa Fe, Kokopelli is where I stay. It's an oasis after many hours of driving from Tulsa. I love this place. It feels like home.
This Best Western is an old style motel with a central building in which you check in and two separate, two story buildings with exterior walkways on the second floor level for access to the rooms. Be sure to ask for a ground floor in advance if you have much luggage or can't navigate stairs, as there are no elevators to the second levels. All rooms, of course, face outside, but the motel is far enough off the main road that there was no problem with traffic noise. The rooms are all updated and tastefully done. We had an executive room with two queen beds. The bathroom had a large "L" shaped sink, but regrettably only one sink, which was not clean on check in. No other complaints at all, though. The free breakfast buffet was the best I have seen at a roadside hotel in years, with real scrambled eggs and homemade red and green chile, along with the standard cereals, pastries, potatoes, sausage, fruit, etc. This place was a pleasant surprise, and a nice reminder of the motels I stayed in when traveling with the family as a kid before the arrival of the inexpensive roadside hotels.
The hotel is beautifully done in Southwest decor. The staff is friendly and welcoming. There is a very interesting well stocked gift shop of Indian turquoise jewelry. Nice pieces with somewhat reasonable cost. Our room was king first floor as requested. It is a nice sized room, flat screen TV, very comfortable mattress, and good shower with thick puffy towels. The breakfast is super good with real eggs and delightful selection. Will definitely stay here again.
I was extremely pleased with this hotel. The staff was so helpful and friendly. The room was very clean and the decor was so enjoyable. It's not very often that you come across such a nice hotel. When we left, each member of our family commented on how much we enjoyed our stay. I would definitely recommend a stay here.
This is a great stop over hotel. The room was nicer than the standard room- a little bigger than most, vaulted ceiling, ceiling fan, fluffy towels and was exceptionally clean. The swimming pool was clean and refreshing and the morning breakfast was better than the average hotel fare boasting real scrambled eggs made with real milk and I enjoyed having coconut and dried cranberries for my granola. The staff were courteous and attentive. I would definitely stay here again on our next road trip.
Very difficult to climb stairs with no ramp or elevator for my 90 year old mother and a walker. No electricity for a while and staff did not know why. Room was not ready for us when we arrived at 2:00pm. The room was beautiful the bathroom was very easy to get my mother into with her walker. Everything was so clean and well taken care of so it was easy to relax.
My family had a great time at this hotel. The rooms were great and the pool was clean. We were very impressed with the breakfast. Amazing spread of wonderful food! We will always go back to stay at this hotel on our way to Red River.
My wife and I were in a party of four traveling to NEW MEXICO and had made reservations in Clayton, New Mexico at the Best Western. The staff was very friendly. They made sure everything was just right for our stay. Our absolute favorite part was the breakfast the next morning. we did not want to leave! I can assure you we will be coming back to the Kokopelli Lodge on our way back to New Mexico!
Stopped at this super cute motel on the way from Colorado to Texas. It was clean, renovated and the grounds showed that they cared about it. They had a fantastic breakfast as well as a cute koi pond out in the back patio area. It is Amstel. AC worked well.
Stayed here one night while passing through. The hotel was fine, pretty clean, and comfortable bed. Breakfast was great. I recommend this hotel if you need a place in Clayton. There are a few restaurants in walking distance. Not necessarily cheap, but I believe you get what you pay for.
Over nighted at the Best Western Kokopelli Lodge while traveling to Colorado. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful, and our room to be clean, and very comfortable. Just what the doctor ordered after a long day driving, and breakfast the next morning was the bomb! Perfect halfway point stop for us. Will use it again next summer!!
We have stayed at this location many times and are always pleased. The rooms are clean, modern, and the breakfast is the best I have seen as an "included breakfast". Real eggs cooked with milk. Real ham, sausage, potatoes and all the other items you would want. Best of all is their green chili sauce for the eggs. I look forward to it and found that they now sell it in frozen plastic quart containers so you can carry some home! This trip we were two couples traveling. One traveler was 90 years old with mobility issues. The other couple also had one party with mobility issues. We were pleased to see that they had taken care with our request to hold downstairs adjoining rooms for us. Make your reservations early for this location. Some days it sells out long in advance! A little more expensive than other sites in Clayton, but worth every penny.
Our stay was reserved beforehand and made a big difference in checking in time. Our representative was very professional, business attire which we believe is important. Nothing worse than someone checking you in wearing pajamas! Decor was beautiful with a good selection to purchase merchandise. Room was clean, smelled very good; not a "cleaner product" but an air freshner which was very nice. Beds comfortable. Everything was very nice! Would certainly consider staying again! Thanks!
Our BW Kokopelli Lodge room was very clean, large enough, comfy, convenient to restaurants and gas stations. The continental breakfast was better than most motels that provide morning eats. Every staff member we met was absolutely friendly and helpful. Our only issues were an AC unit that was more noisy than it should have been and the same was true of the small frig. The room was more expensive than we had expected, especially for a small town such as Clayton, NM. Otherwise we were very pleased.
We stay here on our way to and from Colorado. It is a wonderful oasis and respite on our long trek. The pool is excellent, and we enjoy picnic-ing in the park area. Love that y'all allow dogs! Wish the A/C would blow air continually -- kind of hard to sleep well through the on-and-off cycles of the unit. Breakfast is the BEST!
W e love this hotel.. beautiful decor... comfortable room.. excellent breakfast... helpful, friendly staff.. and they take dogs (she got her own treat bag!)... a very good value too. a nice dinner restaurant was within walking distance.. We will be back!
Cute and very clean little roadside motel. Love the decor and cleanliness. Beautiful jewelry and decor items for sale in lobby without a sales pitch. Certainly the decor and friendliness of staff offers a warm welcome and good impression of New Mexico. The room itself was quite large (we had king), nice TV and service, no problem with wifi. The actual bath/toilet area was divided for dressing table and sink which was nice. Large in the sink area but cramped in the tub/toilet area. Had a little trouble adjusting the tub temps but once mastered, it was fine with good pressure. The breakfast was very good and all items hot and fresh. The building is "L" shaped and we were in the bottom "L" so parking was a teeny bit cramped...probably would have liked the long building behind the lobby better but even though it was closer to the road, it was quiet. We will definitely stop here again if on this route. My only complaint was the a/c cutting off and on...it didn't have a constant fan so would bring a fan next time as I am a white noise person.
We loved the Southwest decor and artistic touches throughout--from cute metal work designs around the pool enclosure to metal gecko art on the light switches and outlets in the room. It's obvious that someone is paying a lot of attention to the small details that make a difference. The room was super clean--all of the bedding was white, even when pulling back every layer. :-) The towels were thick, fluffy and bright white. My mom broke her hip just two months ago, so finding a nice clean bath mat in the shower was something she especially appreciated. The shower water pressure was perfect with plenty of hot water. Our son loved the heat lamp in the bathroom, as well. Front office and restaurant staff were friendly and caring. The pool and pool area were clean. Breakfast had the choices of cereal, muffins, breads, gluten free options behind the counter, sausage, eggs and pancakes. The buffet was kept well-stocked. The business area and gift shop were also really nice. Definitely plan on staying here again!
This was our first time to stay at this location. We stay at BW hotels frequently. I have to say this has been the BEST one yet. The staff was very accommodating, rooms were very clean and well represented, overall appearance was great. Breakfast was awesome and very well clean and organized. I have to say if you are looking for a nice friendly, clean, very accommodating place to stay, THIS IS THE ONE.
Linda and I stopped in Clayton, NM on our way to Lubbock, TX from Breckenridge, CO. We stopped at the first motel we came to in Clayton only to find out there were no rooms available there unless one had made a reservation. So we continued on into Clayton and stopped at this motel, and got the last room they had left. Talk about good timing! Our room was on the 2nd floor (#228), on the end beside the street. The room was nicely decorated and clean. It had a refrigerator and a flat screen TV. The bed was very comfortable, too. One of the best night's sleep I had on our trip so far! Very satisfied with everything about the room. The bathroom's tile decor was awesome, especially the accent tiles around the shower. Also, a big thanks to Britt, the desk clerk, who gave Linda and I some ideas about things to do in Clayton that evening. We had a great time at the street dance downtown, which was just a few blocks away. Even though the room was close to the street, it was pretty quiet. In the morning, we went to the complimentary breakfast. Eggs, sausage, ham, biscuits, gravy, pancakes and several options for side dishes were on the menu, as well as coffee and 3 fruit juices for drink options. No complaints at all there, that's for sure ! The motel also has a lot of items for sale in the gift shop, as well as in the halls around the gift shop. Reasonably priced, too. All being said, I would highly recommend this motel to anybody passing through Clayton, NM.
When traveling to New Mexico or Colorado we always stay at the Kokopelli Lodge in Clayton because of the service. The folks that serve you are the best, and the breakfast are just wonderful. The rooms are always clean and the personnel is just the best.
Very clean, great mattresses, good breakfast. It is clear to us that the owner of this hotel truly cares about the appearance of his property and the comfort of his guests. In the small town of Clayton, New Mexico, it is a welcome break after 740 miles of road noise.
In all our hotels on a 13 night trip, the best western inn Clayton NM ,had the nicest room, nicest bathroom products, ,restaurant , breakfast , service. I would live there if I could.iHowever, I don't think they had a pool. And there were not enough parking spaces to go with all the rooms. My hubby had to get permission to park in a no parking area and walk a distance in pouring rain to our room.
My husband and I stayed here one night, along with our small dog. During the reservation, I requested a first floor room. That is what we got. Very happy about that. The room was clean, nice shower. Beautiful outdoor area. Dog walking area with provided bags. My pet peeve is people that don't pick up after their dogs. The bags are provided right there. Check in was great. Very friendly desk personnel. Breakfast was great with REAL eggs. Would definitely stay here again.
It did not start good, checked in a 3:30 pm, had asked for lower room, bad knees, said ok, rechecked 2 days before we arrived, said ok, but there was none left, not good. But the man at desk, Jessie, tried real hard, told us that the person should had key in don't not change. So if you go check with Jessie. Every thing else was great, room and breakfast. BUD CARTER, TEXAS
Travelling from San Antonio to Colorado, stopped at the Kokopelli Lodge, and had a good stay. Employees were nice, efficient, and quick to take care of our requests. They have a great gift shop in the lobby if you needed anything. The rooms were clean, beds were comfortable, and the breakfast was good. Will stay here again.
I have stayed at this hotel twice. The first time it was a very pleasant surprise. The second time, I deliberately sought out a room here for our stay between Texas and Colorado. The staff is excellent and the rooms are outstanding. Very clean and well stocked. The complimentary breakfast is a treat as well.
The hotel was clean and quiet, but rather expensive for what you get and where its located. The breakfast was really good and included scrambled eggs, sausage, fried potatoes, and ham. Nice hotel, but should be less expensive for area.
This is the most popular place in town. Our second stay there and it's always clean and dog friendly. Staff is amazingly awesome, with smiles, laughs and warm welcomes. Not to mention best breakfast around.
The hotel property was very nice and the rooms very large. The free breakfast was very good and still had plenty of hot foods available close to the time of them closing it down. My only negative was the lack of parking spaces. We arrived in town later in the evening and I think we took the last open parking space and it was on the opposite side of the property from our room.
I am 100% satisfied with our overnight stay at the Best Western. Nice decor, spotless rooms, comfortable bed, thick towels, delicious breakfast. The cherry on top of the sundae was the moment I saw the complimentary makeup remover wipe alongside the lotion and other toiletries right after realizing that I had forgotten to bring mine.
If you find yourself in Clayton, this is a nice place to stay. It's a little pricier than some of the other options, but you will get a VERY GOOD hot breakfast. The room was clean and quiet and parking was close to the door.
This property is decorated in Southwest style. I've stayed here at least 3 times in the past 5 years on my way to Colorado. Rooms are comfortable and very clean. The hotel maintenance is superior. The rates include a breakfast meal. Although the fare is not gourmet, it is a a good old fashioned American breakfast with an adequate variety of foods to satisfy everyone. Desk service is quick and every effort is made to please guests. I recommend Kokopelli and plan to stay again if the need arises.
We spent one night here due to severe storms. The room was great the bed so comfortable. The only problem we had with the stay was the fact the coffee maker was broken. But we will not hold that against them.Every one was very pleasant and helpful.I know we would stay there again if the opportunity came.
Traveled to New Mexico to visit friends, Chose this hotel. It was great Home away from home. The people that worked there are all friendly. From the front desk staff, breakfast staff, and housekeepers. The room was very clean, very comfy. Its an older hotel that was updated. Breakfast was great with lots of choices. They had a lovely gift shop also, For such a little town, it was a highlight.
I want a minimum of three things at my nightly stops: clean room, quiet, convenience. The Kokopelli Lodge provided all of those with other pluses as well. It is as well maintained as any I've stayed at, it has a very pleasant western motif throughout, serves a great breakfast, and its employees are all friendly and helpful from the front desk to the breakfast personnel. If I were ever to travel through Clayton again, I would seek out the Kokopelli for my stay and I recommend it without hesitation to other travelers. One thing over which the management has no control is the train whistles that sound during the night. This line seems to be the same one that goes through Dalhart, TX where we had a bad night years ago. Apparently it is up to the discretion of the engineers how long and how often they blow their whistles as they pass through western towns. Dalhart's were long and frequent, Clayton's more civilized. Also, the soundproofing at the Kokopelli is probably better.
This hotel was very comfortable, and the decor fit nicely for our stay in New Mexico. Staff was very friendly and helpful, breakfast was good, although we almost missed it because it ended at 9:00, and we like to sleep in on the weekends! Room was very clean and comfortable. The value received was excellent!
We stayed as a stopover on our way to Colorado. The hotel is an older, well kept hotel. Be sure to make reservations because it fills up! I was very pleasantly surprised at the complimentary breakfast! Real eggs, good ham, sausage, grits, French toast ......I could go on. Definitely the best choice in the area!
I stayed 2-nights at this property in May. I was working in the area and selected the Kokopelli Lodge based on customer recommendation. The property is nice-looking from the outside and while you can tell it's an older property by the layout itself, the rooms have all been somewhat tastefully remodeled with a southwest flair to them I felt safe (the room doors open to the parking lot) and comfortable during my stay. They have a lovely morning breakfast buffet in the lobby area/building in the center of the property. Staff is all friendly by my encounters, as well! I would recommend staying here if in the area.
Very nice motel. Excellent staff. Nice, clean room. Fantastic, hot breakfast. Convenient on highway. However, overpriced in my opinion compared to other Best Western's. Would recommend if you don't mind paying the price.
This hotel is decorated very nicely and every where we went it seemed to be clean. The beds was comfortable but the pillows were a little small. The breakfast was a very good breakfast with hot items available as well as continental. When we first checked in I was a little disappointed with the front desk clerk. She seemed to be having a bad day and was a little curt. Hopefully this was just a one time thing. We will stay here again if we are need to stay in Clayton.
What a wonderful place to stay while traveling through the Clayton, New Mexico area. Very clean rooms, and clean grounds. Staff is welcoming and helpful. Hotel offers the best breakfast and an amazing green chili! This is not your average hotel breakfast; they served real eggs, ham, bacon, sausage, red and green chili. This hotel is also pet friendly.
The interior of the room is nice and matches the price range. The bed is comfortable and makes for a great night's sleep. The wifi is fast and functional. The breakfast is a full hot bar with gluten and dairy-free options. The service is extremely polite and professional. This is definitely the best place to stay in Clayton.
We stayed here during a road trip. The hotel room was spacious and clean, and the hotel itself had long (and early!) breakfast hours. We got here late, but the staff was friendly and accommodating. We've stayed here before and will do so again the next time we find ourselves in Clayton.
Had to attend a funeral there recently. Although Clayton looks a little "tired", this hotel is a real pleasant surprise. Clean rooms, good front desk service. This is a real gem halfway between DFW/Denver/Red River-New Mexico ski areas. Won't go wrong!
This Best Western is wonderful. The decor is charming. The rooms are very clean and the beds are extremely comfortable. We had a room with a king size bed and the room was very spacious and comfortable. The WiFi was not reliable but the location of this hotel is remote so reception would be iffy. We thought the breakfast was very good. There was a variety of items to select from and the food was fresh and tasted good. All the employees were professional, friendly and very helpful.
This is a tiny burg, so not many choices. Luckily, this place is a very good choice. Friendly, clean, pleasant Unfortunately, if you're here after noon, The Rabbit Ear Cafe, the best place in town for food, isn't open. Neither was anything else.
We stayed for one night at this hotel while on our way to Colorado and it was really great. The hotel was very clean and the staff was awesome. The customer service was really superb. the staff was so friendly and helpful. This will be a repeat stay for all of our future trips that direction.
The facility is nicely updated in a pleasant Southwestern style. The room was a nice size and was very clean. the breakfast is pretty amazing - puts all others to shame.. There were eggs, ham, bacon, green and red chile, tortillas, bagels, English muffins, homemade cinnamon rolls, muffins, yogurt bar plus cereal, oatmeal etc. Am sure I have forgotten items. The dining area was immaculate, staff friendly - couldn't have been better. What a surprise in this small town. Pet friendly and there is a nice grassy area to let the pooch stretch his/her legs.
This hotel is a nice place to stay when visiting Clayton. The price seemed a little high, but the quality of breakfast makes up for the higher price. Our bed was a little uncomfortable and the Wifi was almost non exsistent. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
This motel is very well run and maintained. The breakfast was exceptionally good and the rooms were tastefully decorated in a southwest theme. The overall quality of the furnishings, supplies and facilities was well above the average for this type of business.
This motel in a declining backwater in the middle of nowhere is beautifully decorated in a New Mexico style. It is super clean and with an exceptionally friendly helpful staff. Very nice breakfast is included. Well located regardless of your destination out of Clayton.
This hotel is clean, doesn't smell and is comfortable. The air/heating unit was very LOUD! Sleeping was not good. I did not complain because we only needed a one night stay. I also could hear someone trying to place their security card in our door several time throughout the night. CREEPY!!
After a long driving day from Winter Park, CO, we arrived at the Best Western Kokoprlli Lodge in Clayton, NM. We had stayed there before so we knew what to expect - outstanding accommodations and service. We asked the lady at the desk where we could get something light for dinner and were told about several places. The motel is excellent, clean rooms and most importantly, a good, comfortable bed. The morning breakfast is absolutely the best we have experiences at any Best Western. If you manage to stay in Clayton, Best Western is the place.
Had to stop here last minute on the way from Angel Fire, NM back home to Houston. Very nice place for being in the middle of nowhere. Clean rooms, felt very safe, friendly service, great hot breakfast with lots of variety, including green chiles for the eggs! What more could you ask for?
Needed a place to meet a family member. The staff was very nice. The room was clean. Breakfast buffet was included in the cost of room. The buffet had a lot to choose from. I would recommend this to friends and family.
Clean, good design, well lit, comfy chair, comfy bed, fridge, pet-friendly with green space for dog-walking, and parking next to the room. This is a great place to stay! We even got a call after check-in asking if the room was satisfactory. I plan to stay again.
The clean, modern facilities and amenities make this hotel a very pleasant stay...especially for the money. It is easy to see that the staff all strive to be pleasant and helpful. The presentation of breakfast has a southwestern taste if so desired. Addition of the yogurt/parfait bar is outstanding.
Short and sweet. This place is very clean. This place is very customer service oriented. This place is easily accessed. Really clean updated rooms. Great full breakfast included in cost. extremely pet friendly. Can't say enough good thing about this oasis in the middle of no where on the road to somewhere!
We stayed here when driving home to Colorado from Texas. It was clean and the breakfast was amazing. The doors are on the outside, which I personally don't care for, but it was great for 1 night. Clean remotes are also a plus while traveling with small kiddos.
Comfortable and clean motel in a town with few options but its getting too expensive for a B-W. Clayton, NM is a nice place to stop to break up the TX - CO drive. The motel is pet friendly for a reasonable fee.
Driving from Colorado to Texas across New Mexico in the middle of the night. Sometimes you are not sure about what will be available. If you are stopping in Clayton, you can't go wrong with this Best Western! Great accommodations and the breakfast was very nice.
The lobby and breakfast area are exceptionally clean. Comfy, clean rooms. You wouldn't know that this is a pet friendly hotel because the room was very clean without any odors. The breakfast area was so clean and the staff would go out of there way to make your stay the best one.
We have stayed at this location several times in the past few years and are always delighted with the property and accommodations. Staff very friendly and helpful, room extremely clean and one of the better breakfast offerings. Usually we skip the hotel breakfast, but not here. Had a minor tire issue and the front desk folks were very helpful with locating a tire company to check it out.... Keep doing what you're doing!!!!
Nice little motel with charming southwestern decor. Lots of good variety at breakfast: eggs, pancakes, sausage, ham, biscuits & gravy, plus all the usual pastries and cereal. Very clean and comfortable. The tasty Rabbit Ear Cafe is right up the street.
A must stop if you want a classy motel in Clayton, very clean, great breakfast, wonderful art and jewelry. Great place to stop if the weather is bad in Raton. Staff is very helpful, quiet location. Highly recommend!! Slot
This hotel may still be a secret due to its location. All the staff, the amenities, appearance and cleanliness make it an outstanding Best Western experience. We plan our trips to time a night's stay there if out trsavle plans permit.
The room was clean and comfortable. I was expecting it to be noisy. It wasn't. I really like this style of motel where you park right outside the door. We didn't have a chance to check out any local dining spots. The morning breakfast at the motel was outstanding. The serving staff was very friendly and professional.
We have stayed at this Best Western several times The rooms are very clean and comfortable. What makes this Best Western stand out for us is the fantastic breakfast. It is what keep us coming back each time. I highly recommend staying at this property.
We have stayed in this hotel many times and find the staff friendly & helpful, the rooms clean and comfortable, the check in/out fast, the location convenient, and the full breakfast delicious. Would highly recommend!
The room was comfortable. The queen beds were a plus. They served an excellent hot breakfast and the staff serving breakfast were courteous, efficient, and pleasant. Check in and check out was a breeze. The linen was clean and rooms large and well laid out.
Rooms may seem a little pricy for type of lodging (motel style right on the highway), but it is worth paying extra for the nice, clean, beautifully decorated rooms, and the wonderful breakfast. The only downside is the noise from the road, but we slept fine. I would highly recommend this Best Western. Our friends stayed at another less expensive chain, but they experienced poor service/breakfast and wished they would have stayed where we did.
We've stayed at this BW many, many times on our travels between TX and CO. It is certainly not the least expensive option on this trip but we like that it's pet friendly and clean. And it's a great half way point between Dallas and Denver.
We stopped at this hotel because of the snow storm and the closure of the road. The check in staff was professional and made sure long queue of guests had a room on that day. With free WIFI and hot breakfast. The lady in the breakfast room was kind and polite to every guests.
I would definitely recommend the Best Western. They went out of their way to accommodate me and my family. I am very pleased at the way the staff went out of their way for me and my family. We were stranded in Clayton New Mexico due to a blizzard storm and their staff went beyond their normal work day to accommodate us and I have a disabled son and I will forever be greatful thank you
We were stranded due to a blizzard on our way to Colorado and were blessed to stumble upon this hotel! We also have three small dogs, but they were very welcoming. No place else to stay. We found the room to be immaculate (I'm very picky) and so comfortable. It seems to be recently remodeled, tastefully decorated and warm! The bathroom even has a jacuzzi style bathtub/shower. Thanks for a great, unexpected stay!
A great place to stay. The rooms are nice and the decor goes with the name of the hotel. The entire grounds and inside lobby are well kept and classy. Their breakfast is the best we've ever had. Everything very fresh and tasty with a great presentation.
Okay. Clayton is in the middle of nowhere but if you are driving into NM or Colorado from Texas or OK Clayton is a great place to stop, sleep and eat on what is a scenic, tranquil drive North to Raton and on into either I-25 to Denver or back West to Red River, Eagles Nest, Taos, Santa Fe etc. I love this drive and really enjoy staying the night at the Best Western Kokopelli. Reasonable clean rooms and Southwest decor throughout the buildings inside and out. Numerous, beautiful handicraft and Artisan items are for sale including Southwest themed jewelry, wall hangings, decorations, crucifixes etc. The staff are friendly and helpful. The best part of the Kokopelli is the generous breakfast buffet with a good selection of hot items (sausage, ham, eggs, potatoes and both red and green pork chile) with tortillas, muffins/rolls, biscuits and yogurt. Also juice and coffee. A good start to another day's drive. BTW, you can purchase green and red chile by the quart to go. Frozen. I have generally paid $100 to $120 per night plus taxes. Some may argue a tad pricey for this area but I think it is worth it. There is a Super 8 and a Days Inn (going on memory) that are likely less costly but without the decor, breakfast etc (I did stay once at Super 8 with a "cheap" friend so I know about it). I suggest that you try the Kokopelli at least once. Do not forget breakfast and browsing the beautiful decorations for sale. You will be satisfied. On a side note, eat at the Wildhorse Grill and/or The Eklund. Avoid the Rabbit Ears.
We found this hotel as driving thru on our way to Colorado. What a hidden gem! the décor was awesome, reminding us that we were in NM for the first time. All staff and townspeople we met in this quaint little town were so friendly and kind. We ate at local café right down road and had great New Mexican food. the hotel is very clean and refurbished with beautiful southwestern décor. You can buy handcrafted items throughout hotel if you wish. the breakfast was the BEST point tho, we had home cooked food with touch of Mexican flair. green and red chile sauces and fried potatoes and real sausage, ham and eggs. OH so much! it was a very good rest for us and was well worth the stop here. You will be pleasantly surprised!
We were driving through to Colorado Springs & got snowed in here. What a nice place to get snowed in! The staff prepared dinner, which they normally don't do, because every place in town was closed or no good. It wasn't the best meal I have ever had but sure was glad to get it! The room was very nice too. The breakfast buffet was outstanding! I have never had a meal like this in a motel before!! There were eggs, ham, sausage, potatoes, fresh baked rolls, biscuits & gravy. I'm sure I have missed the rest! Everyone was very nice & we would stay again!
Everything about this hotel was exceptional. The comfort of the bed, the quiet, the great shower, the restaurant, the check in folks, and the unexpected yet extremely honest staff who are sending a misplaced bag of clothes to us which we left behind. I don;'t normally expect this type of service, but this is a great place to stop.
I'd give it this motel a good rating. You can't go wrong staying here. The rooms are clean here. The hot breakfast was good. For the price, it was good value. So, if you find yourself passing through Clayton, by staying here you won't go wrong.
We actually LOOK FORWARD to staying at this Best Western. Our room, as always, was impeccably clean and comfortable and our dogs love staying here too! They liked their treats handed out at check-in. The hot breakfast buffet with its authentic New Mexico green chili is awesome. The hotel even has Southwestern gifts - some made by local artists - that you can shop for while staying there.
We were coming from Dallas to Denver with 2 dogs in the car and this made perfect sense for a short nights sleep. Friendly and easy staff, working the desk late. Also the rooms are dog friendly, which was great for us. Select rooms only. They have a nice grassy dog park area off to the side that was convenient for walking the pups.
Arrived at 8:50p on a Weds night. No place open in town to eat except a truck stop across the street. Nice enough hotel but overpriced- I suspect because they can. Lock on door broken. Took 15 mins to get in the room and then another hour for maintenance to change out the lock. The staff was friendly and apologetic and gave us a 10% disc. Breakfast was very good. We won't stay there again if we can help it. We'll stop in a larger town where there are restaurants and the hotels are cheaper. Would definitely stay there again if the price was reasonable.
This was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed. Clean and very well furnished. This is the finest Best Western I have ever used. Every thing about my stay here was very pleasant. The place was very clean inside and out. I would for sure stay here again when back in this part of the country.
We stayed at this hotel after a very long day driving through the mountains in northern New Mexico. The hotel is older but has been kept up. The young woman at check-in was very welcoming and friendly. The room was spotless and everything was in working order. The front desk clerk even called later to ask if everything was OK. We would stay here again and would recommend it. Beware that they are on a very busy highway. All the traffic from Texas to Colorado goes through here. If you are noise sensitive, ask for a room at the back.
This was my second time to stay at this location and it was just as wonderful as the first. I travel with my two small dogs and really appreciate the dog area. The room was clean and the breakfast is always good;l
Clayton is a little town in the upper Northeast corner of New Mexico. This hotel was a definite surprise. Great hotel, Clean friendly staff. Breakfast had a good selection. Very flavorful. Staff was very helpful and truly there to help. I would highly recommend this hotel over any hotel in town.
When we arrived there was construction at the hotel. We made reservations online while driving when we knew where we would like to stop for the night. The price seemed very high for the area. Our room was very nice, roomy and clean and updated!!!! A lot of southwestern decor. We were very surprised there was no microwave in the room! We would like to have had a table with two chairs instead of the little arm chair and little side table. TV channels were very limited and basic for the price of the room! Had a lot of problems trying to connect to the Internet! Never could get online and stay online or even get email!!! We called the front desk. All they could do was send someone who was not onsite to our room! It was too late for us by then. My wife was woken by the Train twice during the night!!!! The refrigerator was loud and we could not turn it off. So we turned on the continuous fan on the a/c which helped drown out the noises. Bath towels were very nice. Breakfast was good. As we left we still felt they were overpriced!
