« Overwhelmed by the attention to our needs »

We held our think tank at Oscar's, with guests from Australia wide. The attention to our needs, quality of the food, the setting and support provide was exceptional. Nothing was to much trouble - Christine, Yvonne and the rest of the staff made it exactly the experience we were looking for. We've already booked in for next year.

    « Family get together »

Great stay with our adult children and small grandchildren. We were made to feel so welcome from beginning. A perfect place for our family with the two lounge rooms, dining room and beautiful grounds. Great food and service at Oscars. Great beds and the whole venue impeccably clean.

    « Gorgeous! »

This boutique hotel is in a beautiful setting on the edge of the Yarra with lots of lawns and verandas overlooking the grounds. Rooms are very comfortable and the sittings rooms are beautiful. Staff were extremely friendly and could not have been more helpful. Great buffet breakfast included at Oscars restaurant - Best croissants I have tasted.

« Great place to stay »

From time of check in to departure we found the hosts Christine and Jason very helpful, nothing was a problem. As it was AFL Grand final weekend they even set up the big screen for us to watch. I would highly recommend this property to anyone visiting the area

    « "A hidden gem" »

This was a lovely surprise. It is in a quiet location, situated by the river, beautiful lawns and trees. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean, king bed, very comfortable. Two beautiful lounge rooms to relax in also an outside deck looking down to the river. Breakfast was buffet style, a cooked breakfast also available. This was included in the accomadation price. There is a restaurant called Oscars on site. We had dinner there. Beautiful food, lovely staff. It was the Grand final weekend, so a great atmosphere, also an art show . We had a lovely relaxing time. Bring your bikes and ride the Warbuton trail, or just enjoy a walk into Warburton .

    « Very relaxing »

The room was beautiful and clean. The staff were very lovely and helpful with info on the local area. They suggested places to see we hadn't considered. The only thing that let the place down was the menu for the restaurant. I had looked up the menu before we left and it was very extensive. When we had our dinner the actual menu was very limited because they were replacing the chef. Presume that has now changed. It was still a wonderful place to stay right by the river. So quiet and very relaxing.

    « Wonderful family time! »

We had a wonderful two night stay at the Best Western for a family visit of the area. The hotel is located on the water and was very peaceful and beautiful. The staff and owners were very friendly and helpful and made for a very enjoyable stay.

    « Surprise accommodation »

We were meant to be staying in a different place me and my husband to celebrate our wedding anniversary but unfortunately the staff made a mistake and double booked the cottage we were gonna stay in. The manager suggested we go and stay at the Oscars on the Yarra hotel and he will pay for us. The place is very nice and causy, a little bit old style but the room is very clean and causy. The room are a bit small but they are alright if you are not spending the whole day in the room. Staff in the hotel were amazingly friendly and helpful and tried to do their best to make us happy. The views from the restaurant are also great so we managed to take a few shots on the river. We definitely recommend this place.

    « A happy 50th birthday »

With my beloved uncle turning 50 on Sunday we had a remarkable time spent at oscars. With canapés and bubbles to start we were delighted with wonderful and attentive service from such lovely staff. Our lunch was hosted in such a private, beautiful space with our own deck to socialise and take in the character of Warburton. The food itself was very nice and looked amazing although portioned small for myself, desert of fresh sticky date pudding made up for this entirely. All in all a lovely day for a celebration and a special thank you to Sony and Kaitlin for making it a stress free and beautifully decorated day. Thank you oscars :-)

    « El Cheapo Conference »

Old fashioned Flag Inn type motel. Next to the Yarra River Bedrooms are small. Work desks are tiny. Ok for tablets only. Beds are comfy and heater keeps you toasty. The staff made this place tolerable. Front of house and kitchen staff do there very best to make your stay enjoyable. Check in was swift & very easy. Breakfast was good. Dinner was ok. Service around the pool table and fire was great. Good place in Warburton.

« Friendly, warm and welcoming »

is this country hotel in a location, that is a lot better than what we expected. Lovely dining/breakfast room and two common rooms add to the pleasure of staying there. I had the probably best G/T drink ever in front of the open fire. Newspapers, billiard table and lots of information brochures on display. Our room was sufficent in size in our opinion- yes, there are bigger rooms available, but with so many great common rooms you don´t need bigger rooms. A common problem in hotel rooms in my eyes is the bedsight light- here only one for two - twin- beds, with a black shade- too dark to read in bed. Beds comfortable, breakfast great. Dinner was alright, but a bit on the expensive side, particularly the entrees and when you ordered a dish on the side. All in all we would certainly stay there again.

    « Lovely night »

We had a great night here just myself and my cousin. We had a standard room which was quite small but was fine for us 2. With a little verandah overlooking the river was very relaxing. The delicious steak for Dinner was super expensive but undoubtably one of the best steaks I have had. Evon at reception was extremely friendly and helpful to us. Buffet breakfast was really good too. We can't wait to go back when it's warmer and sit on the deck with a wine viewing the river! The only thing I could complain about is that there is no fridge in the room but no biggy if you drink red wine :)

« Comfortable and best service »

Stayed with my 7 year old son, comfortable for the two of us. Room as shown in pictures on website. Other reviewers mention lack of fridge in room, was not an issue for us. Hotel set close to the river which was great. Hotel has beautiful common rooms with fireplaces which made our short stay feel luxurious. What sets the hotel really apart though is the service. We experienced excellent service from the minute we checked in. Went to restaurant for dinner, service was amazing, cordial, friendly. Same for breakfast. Congrats management and staff. I will be back, and will recommend.

    « BW Warbuton »

The place to stay if you want a warm and relaxed feel not far from the snow. Setting makes an ideal retreat for couples. Breakfast is also a standout being a buffet with a variety of choice both warm and cold. Enjoy a drink in the lounge area sitting by the fire was also a relaxed highlight. Room was very clean but a bit small, not much they can do about that tough given the rooms appear to be converted. Balcony is also a nice touch but you need to share it with your next door neighbour. Would have also been good to have pay tv to unwind and watch a movie at the end of the day. All in all this hotel is a great place to take a breather and let the world go by for a while.

    « A little disappointing »

The bed was very comfy. Our room was very small. The walls were paper thin. Woken up early with the sound of kids running up & down the hall. In our room we could hear the clanking of pool balls from the common room. Maybe a back room would have been quieter. A big downfall, no fridge. Hard to have a romantic get when you can't even chill a bottle of wine. Probably better for a family holiday than a weekend away escaping the kids. The room was described as having a balcony overlooking a garden. It was just a tiny shared porch overlooking grass.

« Why stay anywhere else »

Always friendly staff, very comfy bed, hot shower and lovely toiletries The included fully cooked breakfast was very good, I'd suggest sitting at the back of the room as the view of the river in the morning is amazing. An option at night is a lovely sitting room with open fire place and t.v.. also a pool table, very comfortable and nice touch. Sadly I didn't sleep to much due to guests ignoring the sign near the bedrooms saying to be quiet, lots of loud laughing and banging on the walls, I'd suggest getting a room toward the back incase unruly guests stay when you're trying to sleep. There is a restaurant at the motel but there's also some great restaurants less than 3 minutes away in warburton itself. I'd also suggest going for a walk around the motel grounds to the river, lots photo places. Why stay anywhere else when this place is so lovely.

« Scenic, convenient, and comfortable »

Yarra River in the backyard, wild deer, magnificent view of mountains, plenty of parking, lush green lawns, convenient location for bicycling, nature walks, and rain forests; honestly speaking, these were all unexpected. If you are visiting this area, I would highly recommend this hotel. Now, as couple of customers had already mentioned about their poor sound proofing that is true in fact. We were watching movie on our laptop with an external single mini speaker, someone complaint about our loud movie sound. We were surprised, it was ridiculous. We have observed that their restaurant Oscar's on the Yarra is pretty famous on weekends and you will see their most of the staff busy over there. I will review their restaurant separately. In short, it wasn't bad either but we got our order served after 30 minutes.

    « Darren & Helen »

After riding the rail trail we were very pleasantly surprised to arrive at such a gorgeous hotel. The grounds were magnificent & the trees were golden in autumn. The river runs at the back of the grounds & from breakfast we could see across the river to where wild deer were grazing. Our room was small but clean & fresh. The bed was very comfy & the shower was good. It lacked s fridge but it didn't really bother us. Our private deck was a great place to lock up our bikes. The lounge, hallway & dining areas were beautifully & tastefully decorated with an Art Deco feel, yet also up to date. The polished dark timber floors from entry to dining area were gorgeous. The breakfast was lovely & served by friendly staff who pointed out the deer to us. We had to walk into town for dinner as the restaurant was closed for Anzac Day but we enjoyed the walk after cycling. Walking back in the dark along the trail took 20 mins guided only by our mobile phone flashlight. We plan to return by car for a longer stay & to see some local sights & to try Oscars restaurant for dinner. Great value for money & just across the road from the rail trail.

    « Booking Error »

In-room wifi: 1/5 Only one device can be connected properly. Stronger signal at common lounge area. Room size: 1/5 For a regional hotel, the room is extremely small with only enough room to have one bedside table and a small TV. Quietness: 1/5 Not much acoustic insulation for the room. Staff starts cleaning and talking along the corridor and reception from 8AM, but we do have a room closest to the reception. Bathroom: 1/5 Not a 4* standard but designed for accessibility. No bath tub but bathroom size is large. Mattress: 5/5 Nice and firm Pillows: 4/5 Could be firmer. Customer Service: 1/5 Error in our booking for the second night which meant we had to find somewhere else to stay. They blamed it on's response was the accommodation could not honour our booking. Then, we read about similar experience here by another TA reviewer just a month ago, so, now, we are doubting whose error it was but at the end of the day, we, as the customers, were greatly inconvenienced. Initially, the Indian guy who called us while we were out hiking, asking when we are checking out and when I told him we are not checking out until the next day, he insisted that we only made one night of booking. I said I have booking confirmation in front of me for two nights and he still insisted 3 times that I was wrong and his system was right. Otherwise, all their other staff were so friendly. They apologised profusely when we checked out but what do words mean? They should at least compensate us for the expensive dinner we paid the night before but it was only a verbal apology.

    « Very noisy - bad layout »

The hotel has chosen to place a large billiard table right next to the guest rooms. Not surprisingly, guests choose to play and congregate in this area. We heard the clanging of billiard balls, general chatter and thumping from I don't know what until after midnight. I complained to reception twice and was told she would ask them to 'quieten down'. In the morning the reception lady told me the guests had left just before 10 pm when reception closed for the night. They, or some else, definitely returned soon after to party on. There was a phone number you could have called after hours she went on to tell me. You mean after already complaining twice I was expected to ring again I replied. Admittedly we were staying in a standard room - which incidentally isn't large enough to swing a cat - just room for a bed and only one side table - but this shouldn't mean we should have to put up with such noise. Ultimately the hotel should move the billiard table - especially as walls are paper thin. I might suggest the obvious choice of the current lounge room opposite that is next to reception and further away from guest rooms. It should also enforce its supposed policy advertised in its hotel booklet of no noise after 10 pm. A sign might help, or locking the doors to the billiard table room would be another obvious option. After we checked out the next morning, the reception lady phoned me to say she had spoken to her general manager and given the issues we had experienced they would offer us an upgrade at our next visit. Let me get this straight - we now have to spend more money at this hotel in order to get compensated for being kept awake and non-enforcement of noise policy! Are they serious? Thanks, but no thanks, I replied. We won't be staying at this hotel again. On a side note, a good general manager would have probably called a disgruntled guest personally to apologise. On the plus side, restaurant was nice and waiting staff were professional and had a nice demeanour.

    « Disrupted our trip »

We were supposed to stay here for 2 nights as per our confirmation. However, after the first night and while we were out and about on a day trip we were called by the hotel requesting to check out as we were apparently only booked in for 1 night. This was apparently due to a booking error between and the hotel. Luckily sorted this out for us and booked us in a much nicer hotel for the second hotel but nevertheless, it completely disrupted our day and we were forced to go back to the hotel mid-day. Other than that the hotel is quite nicely located, but the paper-thin walls in the small rooms are a bit of a let down as your constantly hear other people. We also experienced smoke smell in our room from the nearby open fireplace despite not opening the windows. The hotel food was mediocre for its price tag - I suggest to eat out at the much better options in town. The bathroom in our room is wheel chair suitable and gives it a retirement home atmosphere.

« Beautiful setting, tiny rooms! »

This is a very attractive hotel in a very beautiful setting. The staff are friendly and helpful too. Unfortunately the rooms are like shoeboxes with not enough room to swing a cat! There wasn't much of a view, and the walls are so thin we could hear talking and snoring and lots of doors closing. There is no fridge, only one bedside lamp and a hard wooden chair which is really only for putting clothes on. The bathroom has no storage and nowhere to put anything. The only TV is free to air, but the screen is tiny, and the wifi is poor. We didn't bother with breakfast even though it is included as it is only served from 7.30 to 9.30 am! Seriously? On a weekend?! Okay for an overnight stay, but we would definitely look elsewhere next time.

    « My man's birthday »

We needed to get out of Melbourne just for a night. We have friends in Mooroolbark so thought we would stay out that way so we could have a good catch up. We have pretty much done yarra valley so I wanted somewhere other then a winery. I wanted somewhere for a romantic night with my man for his birthday, you know like in the movies. I found Best Western Warburton and the beautiful space down the bottom of Mount DonnaBuang. We used to go there when I was a kid and it has only slightly changed. We got to the hotel at 4pm the first thing we encountered was the duck crossing, sooo cute. The reception was lovely, they asked how was our trip (we only live the other side of the Westgate) gave us our key, our room price included buffet brekky (if you have read any of my other hotel reviews you would know this is important to my man, he loves buffet) showed us our room and checked what our plans were for dinner, I had booked a table at the restuarant at the hotel when I booked the room so all good. We went for walk before dinner and the hotel is literally on the yarra it was beautiful. Kookaburras laughing in the background as we sat in one of the gorgeous lounges with our beverages taking in the decor ( was advised the place was a boarding house in the 30's) the decor was of the time but also very retro and modern, it was lovely. We had dinner booking for 7pm at Oscar's on the Yarra (at the hotel). Everything on the menu sounded delicious. We had scallops as a starter, some local wine and sparkling water. Mains we had steak with beans, potatoes in wine jus it was perfect my man had duck croquettes ( don't think it was the local ducks) but all food is from local suppliers. We had chips with home made aioli (yum) more wine..the service was amazing and so friendly. We had dessert of Mango cake with homemade ice cream and berries with meringue..all of it was beautiful. Just so you know it is quality not quantity so don't expect pub size meals but the food is sooo delicious that you are satisfied beyond belief. The rooms were small but KING size bed were amazing and comfy we were asleep by 10pm and slept till sunrise. The place is so clean and the shower was lovely warm and big. Brekky was awesome, good selection of everything, if you want special coffee you do have to pay but plunger coffee and instant is included in breakfast. Crossaints, 3 types of eggs bacon, beans, tomatoes ( I had 2 helpings) fruit, toast 3 juices all just delicious. I highly recommend this gorgeous space for something special if you just need a space to chill. I will be going back. Thankyou to all the amazing staff for your smiles and warmth.

« Over night stay from Queensland »

We booked this hotel through All of the staff were friendly and very helpful. Ammenties that we used were excellent, bed very comfy and quiet, room very clean, ensuite bathroom. The meals were of a high standard. Breakfast was included in our stay, for those that are coeliac like my partner were well catered for including breakfast. Wild dear just across the yarra river the hotel backs onto the Yarra River and is off the higway. Great stay. Wayne.

    « a lovely surprise »

This gorgeous, beautifully renovated small hotel is situated on a picturesque property overlooking the Yarra River. We were pleasantly surprised with the interior of the hotel which is tastefully decorated in neutral tones and incorporates old and new very well. We enjoyed a relaxing predinner drink in the comfy lounge by the cosy fire, and while we didn't dine in the restaurant, "Oscar's", the menu looked appealing. We stayed mid week and it was very quiet, the staff thoughtfully allocate rooms with enough distance between occupied rooms to provide guests with a quiet experience. The rooms are small but keep in mind this is a very old hotel which was previously a guest house. The hydronic heating was more than adequate in the room and while the bathroom was chilly we dressed in the warmth of the room. The bed was so comfortable I wanted to take it home! The small deck accessed from the room overlooks the river and green grassy lawn with stands of magnificent ancient trees, a very peaceful outlook on a beautiful Autumn morning. Included breakfast was buffet style and ample, but the hot food was cooked to order so the eggs were delicious! Cooked perfectly. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, even letting us know there were deer sighted on the bank of the river. As the previous review states there is not a fridge in the room but I am sure if you asked the staff they would happily oblige a request to put any food in a fridge for you. The only downside to the hotel is the distance into town which necessitates a drive....or a bike ride, as the hotel is very close to the rail trail. We would definitely return to this hotel, hopefully for longer than 1 night.

« warm and cozy environment »

The peaceful hotel is cradled amongst lush green mountains and adjacent to the gentle stream of the Yarra River. The hotel was clean, exceptionally maintained and tastefully renovated. It kept its old world charm but cleverly contained contemporary pieces such as the industrial style light fittings. The buffet breakfast offering a choice of hot and cold dishes was delicious. My poached egg was cooked to perfection. Thank you to the friendly staff for providing a warm and cozy environment filled with ambient lighting and the little touches such as candles and lighting the fireplaces.

    « A real letdown »

The blurb said a Best Western like no other. Well I know of many like this place - cold and damp, no amenities, with an air of decayed gentility - all in small towns and with substantial grounds. That is what they do in Britain for certain. The setting is lovely in the Yarra Valley with a beautiful river and spacious grounds. But inside it goes wrong. Our small bedroom had no table, no fridge, barely any lights - one bedside lamp not two. This was really difficult as we are travelling around Australia and have perishables. The bathroom had no heating and it was cold. They did give us a small heater when we complained. There was a small shared verandah but with only 1 chair per room and no table. We did get breakfast included which was acceptable, nothing more. When we arrived we were told we could use the 2 lounges but there was a large notice on them - no BYO. Ok i can accept that in the restaurant but not in the secular areas of the hotel. So overall not impressed. Except by the stars seen from the driveway. Finally a comment - the restaurant was an awful ripoff.

    « Wedding stay over »

We recently stayed at the Best Western Yarra valley for a wedding that was 11kms away in Gladysdale. A week after I had booked online, I received a very pleasant call from Yvonne to ask what bed configuration we wanted in our 2br apartment & standard room. I had asked about a taxi service to the wedding & she recommended someone for me to ring. I rang a few days before our stay to change the bed configuration & to ask if we could check in a little bit earlier but he said I would have to ring on the day, but assured me 2pm was the official check in time so I said as long as we can be in by 2pm it should be OK as we have a wedding at 4pm. On arrival our standard room was ready but the apmt was still being cleaned & we had to wait until 2.30pm so therefore had a rush to be ready in time. The apmt when ready was very spacious & well equipped. The standard room was cosy but quite comfy. The bathroom lacked bench space which makes putting makeup on very difficult. The beds were very comfy & I found it very quiet although they were quite busy. They had a beautiful lounge with fire place but unfortunately we didn't have the time to enjoy it. The buffet breakfast the next morning was great although the selection of fruit could have been a bit more interesting. And the toasters weren't coping with so many guests & kept tripping out. But overall it was a very nice place to stay, very clean, tranquil & a little luxurious if you had more time to enjoy it. I would definitely stay again if the chance arises.

    « Nice country stay »

A really good example of a Best Western. Newly re-furbed, comfortable rooms in a beautiful setting by the Yarra in Warburton. Makes a good stop over, especially now they have a new chef and restaurant menu. We had a great dinner there, much better than we were hoping for! The buffet breakfast is pretty average.

« Faulty bookings system - hotel late minute cancellation - not ideal. »

I booked a stay here for Easter Weekend. Unfortunately, despite having had a booking in place for 5 days, I was contacted only the day before I was due to arrive to be advised that I could not actually stay. There had been an error with the booking system and the Best Western had been accepting bookings over its actual capacity. Unfortunately this meant that I was no longer able to find any alternative accommodation in the Yarra Valley at short notice. Not ideal. No compensation or goodwill gesture offered by the hotel.

    « Dinner »

This is a magnificent property on a beautiful site easily accessed via a long, straight driveway immediately off the Warburton Highway. The hotel is surrounded by enormous lawns and in being a single storey building it 'sits' very handsomely against its background of woods rising upwards to the hills visible in the image above. What however is not shown is 'Oscars ( Restaurant) on the Yarra' at the rear of the building which caters of course not only for indoor dining but also for al fresco dining on its outside deck from which you can descend to another lawn which in turn goes down to the Yarra River itself. It's all extremely attractive. We had dinner there on Monday Feb 29th after a game of golf at the very nearby and tremendous Warburton GC. Dinner itself was the creation and work of Oscar's almost brand new chef - Alan Dawes: forgive me for any unwitting misspelling of your name - who had jettisoned the previous menu in favour of his own. We had fish in respect of the first and second courses - from memory scallops and smoked trout respectively and then barramundi for both of us - which, truly, was beautifully prepared and cooked; which had wonderful ancillary sides and which were brought to the table by Alan with whom we enjoyed conversationally comparing notes about his cooking and aspirations for Oscars to become even more of a destination than it already is. Pudding was a chocolate dish apropos of which I can't remember the details other than to say it was heroicly delicious. Had I been able to figure out how to make a review on my Iphone at the time, I could have given precise culinary chapter and verse. The amalgam of the restaurant, the tremendous and caring cooking by Alan, the hotel building and its decoration and the overall site conspire to make this somewhere I urge you to visit and enjoy.

    « A Historic & Tranquil Setting »

After a day on the Warby trail this beautiful property was a great place in which to relax. The rooms are spacious but as the building is a converted B&B they lacked some of the facilities that you may expect in a standard hotel room. The deck overlooking the river is a great place for a pre dinner drink and the restaurant meal was of a high standard.

« Second Time Round What a Diisapointment. »

We stayed and dined at Oscars Best Western Hotel about 2 years ago and we raved about it, always finding an excuse to return. On our last visit the restaurant service and food was spectacular to say the least. This time a huge disappointment. Whilst the prices are still high, the service is amateurish, the choice of food limited, and the taste, presentation and quality very ordinary. I would sum it up as bad, and would not recommend it to anyone. The breakfast they offer was the same as on our first visit very very basic, no imagination or creativity at all. The fruits were just shoved on a plate ,the breads were of such bad quality and the hot food shocking. The entire breakfast tasted synthetic. The accommodation is ok. In summing it up we will not return to what we thought was a lttle Oasis in Victoria. What a pity as it has so much potential.

« excellent staff, nice hotel but major let down is the paper thin walls... »

The Best Western in Warburton has passionate, friendly and helpful staff. They were certainly the highlight of our stay, it's also a really nice property and the rooms above what I view as the standard for Best Western properties in general. The location is lovely and is right on the river. I would have rated this place 5 star however the major let down is the paper thin walls. I'm not over exaggerating here either...we could literally hear every single word of the guests in the rooms next to ours even though they were talking at a normal level. It was so bad that we had to listen to the person in the next room snoring both nights we stayed...that is ridiculously thin walls. We both had 2 terrible nights sleep because of this and this is the only reason I'd never stay there again. It's quite sad that it comes down to that as they have done everything else right but being able to hear everything and everyone certainly put a dampener on our stay. If you bring ear plugs you'll have a fantastic stay!

« Can't wait to go back again.... »

If you are like me wanting to getaway from a busy city life this place is amazing. I love the views and being close to wildlife is really great. Food is great at the restaurant, room is super comfortable and cozy. I simply loved it and can't wait to go back again...

« Best Western Yarra Valley »

The location is next to the Yarra River, it is nice, quiet, and relaxing. The rooms are very clean and well presented. Oscars the restaurant has very good meals. You can sit out on the deck, watch the wild life (there is lots to watch and like), have a drink, have your meal and relax. Great place to stay.

« Great food, beautiful location »

A little off the Warburton highway but clearly signposted at the entrance. The bad... No gym or swimming pool. But apart from that there is a beautiful backdrop scenery with a serene river setting and lots of wildlife that suits both kids ( chasing the cute rabbits) and lots of bird life to see and photograph. Great for an evening walk. The room I had was average size which some might consider small but for the two of us it was definitely big enough and was immaculately cleaned which is something you don't often find for a hotel in that price range.....and the food.......oh my god the food!... Oliver's is 5 star at a 3 star price ( I recommend the $32 porterhouse) and buffet breakfast with all the trimmings is included in the price...awesomeness!

« Charming, clean and comfortable »

This is a very professional, inviting and comfortable motel in a breathtaking Yarra Valley setting. Excellent for an overnight stay in country Victoria and the adjoining restaurant - Oscar's on the Yarra - is simply superb.

    « Overnight Stay »

Had a wonderful stay at Oscars on the Yarra. Superb accommodation in such a beautiful 1920's building. Staff very helpful and the restaurant offered top class cuisine. We would definitely go back to stay again sometime. Barry and Martina

    « Something Special »

This is our second stay and we absolutely loved it. Spotlessly clean, great sized room and great service. Food in restaurant is really good. Gardens and surrounds are so peaceful and beautiful. Loved sitting in lounge, enjoying a game of pool. We will be back.

« Great place to stay! »

Great room, great service and amazing food at oscars too :) highly recommend this place to stay. Rooms were very clean and well maintained. And the owner was so accommodating! The best western backs onto a lovely fresh river stream too, was so refreshing dipping our feet it, and very pretty!

« A relaxing and special place to stay »

To celebrate our wedding anniversary, my husband and I chose to spend a night at this beautiful historic hotel. The hotel is at the end of the long, sweeping, tree lined driveway which opens out to reveal this lovely 1920's guesthouse. We were greeted warmly and shown to a spacious and comfortable room, that although had all the modern facilities, still retained it's charm of yesteryear. Our room had a small balcony which unfortunately we couldn't use due to the wet weather. My only complaint about the room was the seating. If we had wanted to spend time relaxing in our room the chairs and couch were very hard and uncomfortable. The bed was very comfortable and we both enjoyed a great nights sleep. It was so quiet! Something you can't often say for a hotel. We enjoyed a delicious dinner in Oscars restaurant. Our table was situated overlooking the beautiful garden and Yarra River which was a beautiful outlook for our special meal. We shared the Grazing Platter which was one of the most generous and varied anti pastas we have had. My husband then had the Moroccan Lamb Shank Tagine which he just loved while I opted for Arancini as I couldn't fit in a main course after my large entree. We were able to have the same table the next morning to enjoy the relaxing buffet breakfast. We spent some time wandering through the beautiful gardens before leaving and wandering around the interesting township of Warburton. The whole area is so beautiful and it is a lovely place to visit. We will certainly return to Best Western Yarra Valley.

    « Wonderful place »

Excellent hotel in great location near river. Although arrived late and restaurant closed due private function the General Manager organised for us to have an excellent meal. Would have liked to stay longer as so nice and lots to see in area. Don't miss the opportunity to stay here - position not obvious as set back from main road.

« A relaxing and enjoyable stay in peaceful surroundings »

We stayed in the two bedroom apartment for three nights in summer, having booked through Soni, the manager, rang before we arrived to confirm our check-in time and the check-in process was smooth. The two-bedroom apartment was spacious and comfortable without being particularly luxurious. It did have a balcony for each room equipped with an outdoor table and chairs with a view over the expansive grounds. The air-conditioning worked effectively, which was fortunate with temperatures in the mid 30s! There appeared to be few other guests at this quiet time of the year, but someone was usually available to assist us if we needed anything. Perhaps because of the quiet period, breakfast was to order rather than the usual buffet, but the food was good quality, fresh and well-prepared. The restaurant staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel grounds are spacious and pleasant on the banks of the Yarra River.

« Picture perfect setting in one of the most beautiful towns in Australia. »

What a beautiful place! Historic location in what I believe was once an old guest house. Firstly the meal!! Absolutely magnificent meal. Ive heard the expression melt in your mouth steak, I would say its the best steak Ive ever eaten. The location is perfect, we sat out on the balcony overlooking the mountains and the Yarra river. How awesome was that. The hotel itself has an old style charm that I loved. A couple of great large lounge areas with billiard table. Reminded me of the days when you would stay in a country pub with a communal lounge area. Old fashioned but perfect. The room was spotless and a great little balcony that was ideal for enjoying the warm summer night. My only minus would be the lack of a fridge, I always like to take a few drinks and munchies, no big deal really and the Hotel did supply us with a bucket of ice. Buffet breakfast had lots of fruit and everything I wanted. When we got home my partner wanted to go back again next weekend! We will definitely return before the summer is over. Id return just for the steak! I think most of the couples staying would have been 55 plus but Id recommend for any age range.....if you want to absolutely relax and unwind there is no better place I would recommend. Brilliant!!

    « A lovely place in Warburton »

A really nice place to stay for a weekend away. Would be great in a small group too, although we were just a couple. The restaurant - Oscars - is excellent, but if you are visiting mid-week, do make sure its open or else you'll have a short trip into town and there's not much to choose from there!

« Absolutely not to be visited ! »

I found it very surprising to have experienced this after reading so many good reviews prior to booking a place for the new year eve, We took the biggest room, for the family at $400 for the night, the room was hot, and only had one small aircon at the living area, both of the room were hot and impossible to sleep in. The "king size" bed was two small singles joined!! Now for the food, I have told that on the night they offer a special BBQ dinner with a band playing to our enjoyment, at the price of $80 per person, I booked it as I assumed it will be a big and impressive night for me and my family.. Oh boy I was wrong! Cold and oily noodles with poor selection of only stir fry, no meat and only one type of again, you guessed it, bad salad., So, if you have any standards, take my experience and find a different place for you and your love ones

« Truly gorgeous setting and surrounds »

My husband, son and I had a truly wonderful and memorable overnight stay at 'Best Western Yarra Valley/Oscar's on the Yarra', on 1st October, 2015. Situated by the picturesque Yarra River in Warburton, Victoria, we were immediately struck on arrival by the rustic charm of the delightful surrounds. Entering the stunningly preserved 1920s Victorian style homestead, we were pleasantly greeted and warmly welcomed by one of the friendly staff, Joanne, and guided to our room. Our room was beautifully decorated with a king size pillow-top bed that was extremely comfortable to sleep in. The next morning we woke to a deliciously cooked hot breakfast and buffet in the 'Oscar's on the Yarra' dining room. The hotel was gorgeously decorated and radiated a warm and charming atmosphere. I would highly recommended Best Western Yarra Valley to anyone considering visiting the Warburton area and looking for accommodation, as the service could not be faulted in any way!!

« Lovely guest house accommodation with modern touches »

Lovely accommodation. Very comfortable bed and pillow (I usually bring my own but forgot). Old style guest house with clever modern interior design. There are three common rooms, quiet reading room, games room with billiards table and the dinning room with a large outside deck overlooking the grounds. The expansive grounds lead down to the river. We had an excellent dinner on the Saturday night and the wine list was very reasonably priced. The full breakfast provided a wide choice. I throughly recommend Best Western Yarra Valley. I believe this hotel was previously known as Oscar's on the Yarra.

    « Beautiful place »

We cycled from Lilydale on the rail trail and spent the night before riding back the next day. It is a beautiful quiet location on the Yarra. The bed was very comfortable. We decided to walk into the town for pizza which took about 20 minutes. The breakfast was very good we are heaps! Hope to come back one day.

    « Lovely B&B »

We really enjoyed the wonderful quiet setting in a woodland and river area. Staff were very attentive and helpful. We have dinner at Oscars one night and brekky 2 mornings - terrific menu and excellent food.

    « Beautiful setting »

We stayed at Oscar's on the Yarra for a wedding. While the wedding was beautiful and the staff friendly, the room itself was overpriced and the breakfast a definite average, pity as it was our last impression of the place. We won't return in a hurry.

« Beautiful guest house feel »

The staff was excellent. Position was beautiful with large lawns and the riverside for a peaceful walk. We were not expecting the guest house feel to the whole venue. This is not a bricked motel unit. We found the room cramped and noisy, We could hear the people in the room next to us talking while in bed and then someone from further down walked around the veranda for a smoke in the night out side our open window. Not the operators fault but we are used to being isolated with no sound of other people on the farm.

    « Yarra Valley »

Like a art decor Guest house. Down by a creek with lovely park lands surrounding it. Clean rooms with patio. Meals are lovely, staff friendly. Would visit again and stay longer to visit local attractions

« Perfect place to spend your wedding anniversary »

We stayed for one night on our tour around the Yarra Valley. What a lovely place. The location is very picturesque and peaceful. Our room, although small was very comfortable and provided all we needed for our stay. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent. We found the staff to be outstanding, they were very welcoming/obliging and made you feel special. We were blown away when we mentioned it was our wedding anniversary and to find an ice bucket with champagne outside our door. Memorable. Would definitely recommend.

« Fantastic bunch of people who were relaxed and very helpful. »

I stayed there for work during the week and nothing was any fuss or trouble. I arrived back late and as pre arranged they had an antipasto platter ready for me to take back to my room with a couple of drinks. Great spot on the edge of the Yarra river in a very rural setting. Great bike path in to town for an early morning walk.

« Great venue and excellent service »

We came here for a garden wedding and the initial setting didn't disappoint with the Yarra River providing a beautiful backdrop. Food and staff were both great throughout the night. Rooms are basic, but recently refurbished and very comfortable and breakfast as good as anywhere.

    « amazing staff! »

The location is idyllic. The beds are very comfortable. The views are gorgeous. But what made my stay so memorable were the obliging and ever helpful staff. I was looking after my 6 month old grandson whilst my daughter attended a conference being held here. And all the staff made us feel so at home and were super understanding about the needs of a young child. In particular I must mention the fantastic Joanne. Thanks for treating us like family!

    « Worth every cent! »

We came across Oscar's without any prior ideas, only a previous happy stay in a Best Western in Venice. Our intuition was rewarded with a memorable two day stay in which every need was met, with friendly efficiency from signing in to our last, fabulous breakfast. Don't miss this place if the opportunity arises, spending a little extra seldom provides such a worthwhile result.

    « Great Surprise »

Really enjoyed this place, beautiful location, good rooms and very good food. Ended up booking here as most other places were booked out but now would go back here in a heart beat. The staff could not be any more friendly or helpful.

« Perfect for mixing business with pleasure! »

Our stay was very relaxing. The staff were lovely. Room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The location and views were amazing. The function room was very accomodating. The food and service we experienced was top quality.

    « Charming hotel! »

We stayed in a beautiful deluxe king room for one night back in February (apologies for the late review!). What a lovely hotel. The room was gorgeous, I'm not sure what the other rooms are like - much smaller I think - but the deluxe room was really large, modern and had a lovely ensuite. The view over the manicured gardens was beautiful. The hotel itself is very lovely and very charming, beautifully decorated throughout with stunning gardens around. Breakfast outdoors overlooking the gardens was a really lovely start to the day. Staff very friendly and in a lovely setting, Oscar's is a lovely weekend getaway :-)

    « Girls weekend retreat »

The three of us were wanting a quiet weekend away, about an hour from Melbourne. We came across the Best Western Yarra Valley and booked within minutes. The weather helped...sunny, mild and beautiful setting. What an ABSOLUTE gem of a place! Small, atmospheric, warm welcoming the Warburton highway, with a backdrop of the hills....TOTAL riverside location surrounded by lovely gardens and rolling grass areas. We weren't sure if we would have dinner there, but booked at Oscars restaurant anyway. The rooms were spotless with crisp white linen...the bathrooms pristine. The bedroom had double french doors opening onto a balcony. We had garden view towards the front of the property, but the opposite side would have the nearby hills and the river. We decided to sit on the deck with the river in view and had a bottle of local sparkling and a shared grazing was perfect...right down to the choice of crackers and toasted ciabatta selection. We donned our walking clothes and walked along the Yarra Valley rail trail into Warburton (about 4 km max)...where they were having the 'Nordic fair'....we crossed the river on the suspension bridge, wandered along a different pathway, back across the river we stopped at the pub for a bottle of local chardonnay in the beer garden with the warm spring sun cheering our day. We had a special bottle of champagne chilling for us back in our we grabbed towels and sat on the banks of the bubbling, gurgling, clean Yarra river. once more the sun warmed our whole demeanor. Dinner was at 7.15 and we decided on Oscar's restaurant at the hotel. The lamb ribs were melt in your mouth, the steak was flavoursome and beautifully cooked and the wine (two bottles!) was reasonably priced. Off to bed where we crawled into our white linen beds. The next morning, breakfast was sensational....latte coffees, poached eggs, fresh fruits, friendly welcoming staff and the morning Sunday papers. Fantastic. Our only suggestion to the staff upon check out was they could do with some outdoor seating near the river, however, alas they had done that, and it had been stolen. Nonetheless they could consider portable deck chairs that people could collect to sit where the sun or shade maybe. All in all, a lovely weekend...thanks.

    « Leisurely luxury »

We enjoyed our stay at Oscar's very much - great location, a charming old building with lots of character, beautiful clean room with a lovely view combined with extremely friendly staff, good service, and abundant breakfast with a river view. The only small minus was that the soundproofing between rooms is not the best, TV sounds from next door were quite clear. Other than that it was quiet and relaxing, well worth a visit!

    « Welcoming »

We stayed for 2 nights and we were made to feel very welcome. Our room overlooked the Yarra River and while small was very comfortable with a verandah to sit on and watch the rabbits play and the river run by. We made use of the lounge area which had a snooker table, TV, books and magazines. The restaurant was close on one of our nights but Joanne phoned a local pizza shop for us to make sure we could get takeaway dinner. The only fault was they forgot to put towels in our room, but they were very apologetic and got some fresh towels straight away. I would stay here again definitely.

« All that you would ever need »

My husband and I wanted to get away for our wedding anniversary - we know Warburton and have often visited just for the day so we decided to go for a weekend. We had seen Oscars and thought it a good place to stay. Wonderful location, welcoming staff - especially in restaurant at breakfast, breakfast was just right and beds VERY comfortable. Check in smooth, room (a little on the small side but that's ok), great sleep, outlook onto the river is just lovely, breakfast food delicious. Just a warning - couldn't get much phone reception, must be a black spot. Improvements? Some more soap available perhaps and some biscuits with the tea/coffee. We will be back again as we thought it was great value.

« Impressions of Oscar's on the Yarra »

Without doubt an idyllic location; tranquil, restful and restorative to the spirit. Very few other guests during our stay (Sunday through Wednesday) and the quiet was much appreciated. The room was a little on the small side and lacked a fridge but was comfortable. the bathroom is dated but clean and serviceable with plenty of room but somewhat lacking in shelf space. The view from the double opening doors was alone worth the visit, overlooking the Yarra river and the table and chairs on the adjoining balcony was a welcome feature. The restaurant was excellent and the service first class; the ambience was from an earlier era and very much to our taste. The menu is limited but food quality and presentation was excellent. Recreational walking was available in abundance and easily accessible on foot from the hotel door. The surrounding countryside was delightful and the walking tracks were among the best we have experienced anywhere in the world. We will definitely arrange a repeat visit. Alan & Valerie Wakelin

    « Beautiful retreat »

Best Western Yarra Valley or Oscars as it is sometime known as is a lovely retreat/boutique style accommodations on the banks of the Yarra just before Warburton. It is also just off the Warby cycling track which makes it a perfect place to stay overnight if riding up to Warby and back the next day which is what we did. The rooms are a little on the small side but this probably due to all of them having king size beds in them which is a good trade off for room size. All rooms have recently been renovated so are modern and very clean. Bathrooms are functional and the complimentary shampoo etc of high quality. A buffet breakfast is included in the room price and it is stunning to sit out on the back deck overlooking the river. We dined in Oscars restaurant and we were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the main dishes. If cycling there is an area off your room where you can store your bike. There is also a billiards room and 2 guest lounges for guests to enjoy. All the staff we encountered were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We would definitely recommend this property and we will stay again when we are next back in Warburton.

« A restful, relaxing place to stay »

Friendly, helpful check-in. Our room was comfortable with a view of The Yarra. Our room had an outdoor patio with table and chairs which made for a nice place to relax outside. The bed was comfortable, the shower strong, and the room was clean. The environment is quiet and relaxing. I would return again if returning to the area.

« Lovely location but super thin walls »

The location of the hotel is as lovely as it look in the pictures. The room I got was comfy but small - no room for even a little fridge or a desk to sit at. The walls were thin enough that I could hear everything going out outside and next door, and so, being a light sleeper, I could only sleep when everyone else went to bed, and I got up when they got up. Breakfast came with the room and it was a buffet prepared by the restaurant and excellent. Wifi was provided and fast enough, which was good because I was only getting 3G out there, if at all.

« Delightful Location in an Olde Manor »

This hotel is surrounded by nature, a country river, kookaburras in the backyard trees, breakfast looking over the balcony onto native bush. The setting is absolutely worth staying here for. The room, however, really was too small for us. Yet, I was able to manage because there are other spaces where you could hang out, like the billiard lounge or the more formal lounge. Also the breakfast came with the room, so we really only needed the room for sleeping. For the price, which was a deal on, we enjoyed our stay and didn't feel too uncomfortable. I wouldn't want to pay any more than $130 incl breaky for a room that small though.

« serene place to stay »

Excellent location. Very beautiful and peaceful. The staff were very friendly and helpful. And guided us to tourist attractions. A special mention for guest relations officer Yvonne, because of her our trip was all the more pleasurable. Only thing is the room was very small. The website said Double bedroom that is the reason I booked. They must have meant a double bed is squeezed into the room. It was not convenient to have one bedside table stuck in the corner. The pillow was too high for us but after mentioning it to the staff they endeavoured to make it less high.

« A quiet weekend away by the Yarra »

What a lovely weekend away- wine tasting and lounging galore! The customer service was top notch at Oscars- so hospitable! Beds were comfy, breakfast was great, overall atmosphere very relaxing. Would recommend to anyone wanting to take a break from city living!

« Best breakfast location in Warburton »

The room was very modern and clean and had its own balcony, although was quite small considering it was shared with the room next door. The walls a re also pretty thin so your nights sleep will depend on your neighbours. We had a The hotel is a bit out of town but is a short 20min walk on the cycle trail. Its a shame there is no river side walk to town given the hotels location directly on the Yarra. This location makes the breakfast buffet excellent when you sit on the deck outside overlooking the river, surrounded by lilies. Warburton itself was beautiful and a real cycling mecca.
