There was some slamming doors around 10pm, that continued on and off until midnight or later, so kept waking me up. Then at 6am what sounded like scratching from the room above woke me. I was exhausted. I booked through Hotels.com and it said VIP benefits, but there wasn't any. The room and bathroom were clean, the area is okay, walking distance to a lot. Some areas of the hotel look like they need some work, but overall it was okay. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The hotel was fine for a 2 night stay, the bathroom could do with being updated though. My big complaint is at night, the roads around the hotel become a race track for boy racers with very loud exhaust pipes, taking off at speed from traffic lights. So we definitely didn't feel refreshed in the mornings. I understand the hotel aren't responsible for the roads, but maybe some complaints to the authorities would help customers get a better night's sleep. When I spoke to reception, her reply was, "yes I know, but we are in the city centre" As we were leaving I heard another group in reception discussing the same issue with eachother. We would not stop at this hotel again due to the boy racers at night.
This hotel is nice and looks like a classy antique. I can imagine a movie about a hotel in the 1920s being filmed here. Winter would be an ideal time to be there due to the heat. Walking distance to area theatres.
Had a great stay. Lovely friendly and helpful staff at reception, bar and leisure club. Great credit to the hotel. Room was spotlessly clean and bed comfortable. Facilities excellent including great leisure facilities. Eat in the bar 2 nights. Pizza first then chicken/bacon ciabatta. Both excellent. Drinks very reasonably priced. Would highly recommend the hotel and I'm sure I will return.
I booked this last minute after we were cancelled last minute by Octagon Apartments. So I paid a little more than I would've liked to. Last minute and the Summer Sessions Festival going on, so only to be expected. Check in was great, our room was ready earlier than expected, thank you Megan for the phone call. Four adults in one room. Good sized room, a little warm but we managed ok. Room would benefit from an update, but perfectly functional and clean. Didn't eat in the hotel as we met up with family. The leisure facilities are well equipped but the pool area whilst great, needs maintenance. Good location with reasonable parking.
I stayed at this hotel for one night and discovered bed bugs in the bed. We were moved into an apartment due to the bed bugs and now we have to pay a huge bill to treat our house and all of our belongings for bed bugs as they had got onto our luggage/clothes. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone but if you are choosing to book please at the very least check your room for bed bugs before you take any luggage into the room.
Well equipped room and very helpful staff. Great breakfast and bistro/bar food OK. Reasonable bar prices. Stayed for a wedding and wedding was great, especially the food and service through out.
Avoid this hotel !!! I stayed with my husband celebrating our wedding anniversary and my husbands birthday . I booked a four poster room and was really looking forward to our stay. The hotel had a function on and guests decided to congregate outside the hotel causing noise from about 10pm onwards. Then around 1pm they all started going back to there rooms and we had terrible noise above us. Not the quiet stress free night I had planned !! Then because of the noise we had to shut our windows and the room got really hot. The hotel had also false advertised that we would have chocolates in the room and we were told that should of been taken off the booking system. I put a complaint in to the hotel manager who tried to put blame on me and basically said tough luck !!! She offered me a small discount to stay at the hotel again but why would I want to go back there !!!!! I said could I have it off another best western hotel and she said no. I think she needs re training in customer service and needs to resolve not blame in a complaint and take responsibility that the hotel did not meet the correct standard of providing guests with a good stay . Worst customer service I have ever experienced !!! Also I have to point out that the shower over the bath is attached to the taps and there is no attachment on the wall to put it up so it is impossible to wash your hair. Please think twice before booking this hotel.
We were in Plymouth for the May Bank Holiday weekend to visit an art exhibition, ‘Unwritten', at the Royal William Yard. We chose The New Continental because of its proximity to the venue and it didn't disappoint. Everything about the New Continental was first class- from the excellent service we received, freshly cooked food served by helpful, passionate staff and lovely first class accommodation. Chris, the hotel's fabulous receptionist and his colleagues were very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We ate in the hotels restaurant - an extensive menu catering for all needs- and what a delicious meal, again cooked fresh and served beautifully by the team. Plymouth Hoe is a 5 mins walk in one direction and the town centre 5 mins in the other direction. The New Continental is perfectly situated. You receive 5 star treatment from 5 star staff. We will definitely be back.
Hello All, The last bank holidays I invited my wife and we visited the Plymouth. Our goal has been the National Marine Aquarium. For our base we chosen the New Continental Hotel. To be honest I did research before. Hotel, aquarium and other attractions in the website been looked very nice. In terms of hotel, the hotel is tidy, lift could contained almost 8 persons. Room nice with TV, clean and fully equipped. Bed king sized, clean and comfortable. The bathroom is average range but with out the ventilation. Shower and bath is together. For someone who have an issue to walk this is issue. Morning we went on the breakfast. Only typical English breakfast, cold plate "Swedish" plate unfortunately do not exist. Chees, white chees, milk (cold or hot) is not offered. Staff very friendly and helpfully. All tables been ready and clean. I happily recommend this hotel to everyone for whom three stars are enough, but do not expect fancy amenities.
We had our 60 th Lions club anniversary dinner dance at the hotel plus stay over. The staff and service were wonderful and could not do enough for us. The whole hotel service was excellent in all aspects. Would highly recommend anyone wanting to stay and hold a function first class
Always go to the New Continental when seeing a show in Plymouth. We stayed in room 108 with a Jacuzzi bath. Superb. Staff are very friendly. Very clean room. Breakfast was excellent. The only thing we found is the swimming pool was cold. Very unusual because it is usually warm. And you could do with either unisex changing rooms or a family changing area. Easier for a couple with kids. Apart from that a excellent stay and we will be back.
Excellent staff beautiful hotel great location and total value for money I would definitely stay again so all I can say if you need a place to stay try this hotel
Booked two nights as the weather was a good forecast. Didn't check in until til 3pm Room was cleaned to a high standard On the second floor. Nothing special just a basic room. Which was good value for the money we paid. Only negative was traffic noise. Didn't eat there so can't comment on food.
Great location, Most friendly and helpful receptionist Bar staff and waiting staff. Entrance is great first impression of hotel. Everything about the hotel was exceptional. It was clean, stylish, roomy with excellent service in where we had dinner. Food was good and great value for money and service was attentive and efficient. Room itself was well equipped and comfortable. I was very pleased with my stay. I hope to be back for a longer visit in the future.
I'm here on a business trip for two weeks. The rooms are very clean and spacious. The staff are amazing always very welcoming and always smiling! The food is amazing they truly go above and beyond! Now I'm a bit of a fussy eater and there hasn't been one meal I haven't liked. Would definitely recommend staying here! Or even just coming for an evening meal.
For the money, this is a great Hotel. Don't expect panoramic views of the city or sea or top quality modern furnishings. It has though so may plus points. The health suite is excellent as is the breakfast and meal at Steves Brasserie. The rooms are simple but comfortable and above all very clean. The staff are excellent across the whole hotel. Smiling and friendly, they were always on hand....full marks to them. If your going to see a show at the Pavilions then this is the place to stay. Would go back anytime.
Good value hotel, decent leisure facilities. Breakfast is the best and Steves Brasserie is very good . Location is very close to the City and the Hoe and just a short walk to the Barbican. Milk aybdocks are a 5 minute walk
Stayed overnight to go to the theatre. Staff were excellent from start to finish, friendly and attentive. Queen room was spotless and very comfortable. Food in the brasserie was good and the service fast and efficient. Breakfast was great! Will stay again.
Have stopped at this hotel few times now, it's an amazing gem of a hotel. Very clean, staff friendly, car park, easy access to all local amenities. Breakfast and bar used both were brilliant, great friendly staff
Clean hotel, friendly staff but don't be fooled by website pictures as not fitting of what you get! Rooms and most parts of the hotel very dated. Rooms have paper thin walls. We had the pleasure of someone gaming on their computer in the room next door and could hear every detail. Tried to call reception but the room phone didn't work. Swimming pool fairly cold and I think open to the public also. I think for the money a better choice would be the Crown Plaza just down the road. Would not stay again.
Another stay at the New Continental, while a bit tired in places, always welcoming and the staff really go the extra mile. Great cocktail in the bar and a proper cooked breakfast, which makes for a civilised start to the day. Nice also to be able to relax in the pool and sauna.
I have stayed in the hotel for over a year now. Always very helpful staff Gods sized indoor pool in basement and always enjoy the breakfast Generally all the hotels in Plymouth are VERY nosey but this one stands back far enough to be quiet. Centrally placed which makes it easy walk from here anywhere in the town center
Just back from another great stay at this wonderful hotel .Our room was absolutely spotless , the breakfast was as always freshly cooked and plentiful and waited on by the lovely Callum ,James and Stanley who are a credit to the hotel and not forgetting Sam who served us in Sams Brazzerie ,( Food was very good too ) Reception ladies were very helpful ..especially Louise .I honestly can't praise this hotel enough..everything was excellent and between them it was great teamwork ..We will return without a doubt .
Excellent clean and friendly hotel, nothing is too much trouble. Very accommodating staff who go over the top to provide you with everything you need. Breakfast timings enabled me to attend meetings and have a lovely breakfast beforehand.
Lovely hotel, Good food, great staff and brilliant value for money. Their functions are always well catered and great fun to be a part of. We have stayed here many times and wil definitely go back again.
Go to the hotel every 3 month for weekend to see son.lovely hotel. All staff from reception to catering to bar staff to cleaners all lovely.would recommended anyone who as not stayed there to definitely stay if they are in Plymouth for ,leisure, business, family, holiday.
The hotel itself is in a good location with parking, although you have to pay £5 Daily for this ontop of your hotel purchase price. The hotel is rather dated but pleasant and clean enough. Breakfast was okay with plenary of selection. Rooms was large , clean but decor and fixtures were dated Overall okay stayed
We needed to find family accommodation close to Mayflower marina. Our son was going sailing with sea cadets, so we searched for affordable, suitable family accommodation. New continental was ideally placed, reasonably priced with good facilities. It was cheaper by not booking direct which surprised me. Carpark was £5 for 24 hours. Good value in a city. Our family room was 128.clean,comfortable, everything you need. It is above the gym and a personal trainer gets clients to chuck a medicine ball at the hotel wall, under your room window which can be slightly annoying but in all fairness it isn't for long. This room looks directly at the pavilion so handy if attending a concert. Food good, friendly staff, pool slightly chilly. Would definitely return if we find the right price.
We had initially booked into the Copthorne Hotel but were very unhappy with the room. The New Continental reservations confirmed they had availability and invited us to look at the room. We were very happy, so booked in for 3 nights. It was spotless and very comfortable a lovely large bed.If we were to return to Plymouth we would definitely book again.
This was our second stay at this hotel. Both times my room requests were met and our stay was enjoyable and comfortable. The staff were extremely accommodating when we arrived before check in,even though they were extremely busy. Similarly, when we checked out we needed to leave the car for a bit longer and this was also no problem. The breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice and very efficient, friendly wait staff. The room was comfortable snd well presented with everything we needed. We have family in Plymouth so need to visit regularly...this is our hotel of choice. It is good value and very convenient for our needs. Thank you to all the hard working staff who made our trip so comfortable and memorable. See you soon.
The hotel is old and quite basic. You do mot get shampoo or soap for the shower for example. The room i had was quite small with an annex bathroom, with very low head room. However it was clean and comfortable for the one night i stayed. Staff are very friendly and the breakfast is good. Note, you will be asked to pay for the room in advance and pay separately for the resturant and bar. The car park is controlled by a separate company with number plate recognition. Make sure you register your car at reception. I do not like these way of parking.
Picked this hotel as it was a great location for watching Olly Murs at the pavillions. When we arrived the reception staff were quite miserable didn't speak to us we had to say hello first and ask what we do about paying for parking. We were told that they were running behind time for our 3:00 check in so we went and grabbed some food while we waited. We returned at 3:20 and got given our room key and went up to our room to find it hadn't been finished cleaning and house keeping still had all their cleaning things out. The cleaner went to get her boss and we took it off our own back to go back down to reception and say that our room wasn't ready? What a joke; not a good start. We did eventually get our room at about 3:45, was nice and clean and tidy. Only had one coffee cup and one towel though, which was not suitable for a couple. Breakfast was average, sausage quality could of been better, coffee was tasteless, fruit, yoghurt and cereal was nice though. Milk had run out when I went to get some but staff were attentive. The lady in reception was very miserable, did not smile once and wasn't very inviting, think some customer service training is needed. Overall average stay and perfect location.
Excellent location and appearance from the outside, also has parking for £5 per day which I was happy with. Unfortunately the room was not so great. The toilet seat was barely attached swinging everywhere and would slam. Also the showerhead would not fix in a raised position so either hold it or shower from the belly button down. The hot water took several minutes to appear. The furnishings in the room made it look very dated. I would have explained my issues on check out but they didn't bother asking how my stay was, just "room number? thanks". The breakfast was very good and the staff there were great.
To start with a positive the hotel is well located for all the sights, but unfortunately everything else was poor. The pictures of the rooms on the internet look light and airy and well decorated, our experience of the rooms was totally the opposite. We were moved 3 times and every room we saw was dark and dingy, with very tired furniture (think student accommodation) all with a strange odour. We booked directly a week or two before and when we arrived found that the prices of the rooms had been greatly reduced only adding to the frustration. This is the first and last time I will ever stay here and please don't believe the pictures of the rooms on the internet as they do not look like this.
The hotel catered for our wedding in early August, without question we cannot express how enjoyable they made the whole day from the minute we arrived to the minute we left. The food and service from the staff was premier and they catered for all of our guests preferences from normal to vegan with a couple of allergies in between, the room for our overnight stay was luxurious with a four poster bed and access allowed throughout the day for ourselves and our guests, nothing was too much trouble and in the morning we had a leisurely breakfast to complete our wedding package perfectly. Thank you to Ruby, Katie and both Luke's for making our day so special.
This was our sixth stay at this wonderful hotel in the last eighteen months .As always it never fails to disappoint..in fact it gets better with every visit .Our room was immaculate ,breakfast is always 10/10 with a warm welcome back from Callum who always remembers us.In fact all the staff from reception, housekeepers and the very pleasant bar staff (Ben ) are very helpful and nothing is too much bother …We are so lucky to have found this gem of a hotel right in the heart of Plymouth.Looking forward to our next stay in January .
We stayed in this hotel for 3 days with a group tour. Pay attention at the room you will have because some are new and some are very old without air cond and very old style fornitures. I would like to say thank you to the Maitre Anthony and his staff because of the great dinners we had. Excellent personnel, helpfull and pefessional.
The New Continental hosted our Spring Law Ball for the University of Plymouth Law Society (UPLS) on Friday 28th April. We cannot thank all the staff, chefs and events team (and in particular Ruby) enough, for their assistance in making it a wonderful evening. Our 150 guests had an amazing time - the food was delicious (for the second year in a row), and the staff most attentive. The space is beautiful and the lights and decor was stunning. We of course added our own touch, which wasn't a problem for the hotel! Ruby and the hotel were very accommodating with all the things we wished to do, and met some special requests for us. The hotel also treat any of our allergy and dietary requests with the utmost seriousness and respect, which was really important to us! They were also willing to price-match an offer we had had from another hotel, which meant our event was able to go ahead despite such a difficult financial time as now! We were really pleased with the service from start to finish, and will be recommending the hotel to our successors, friends and family. Many thanks and we wish you all the best! Gracie and Jasmine University of Plymouth Law Society
Traditional hotel, nice breakfast, comfortable, agreeable staff. Decent restraurant. It is well maintained on the whole, although parts could do with a bit of an upgrade. The bed was comfy, room good size. Winning points were the staff, the kippers for breakfast and the location - will return.
Good Hotel, in city centre, three star hotel, clean room, good breakfast, staff are helpful and polite. The hotel room had a double bed with clean sheets, with a TV and iron board plus iron in the room.
pubic hairs left on the dirty grubby bathmat. womens head hairs left on the window sill. no sweetners for diabetics on the drinks tray - the staff said they dont have any sweetners! internet kept signing me out. small rip in the bed sheet.
Stayed for 2 nights including the Rod Stewart concert on the Saturday and with a wedding aswell the hotel was extremely busy. However, as always the staff were excellent - polite and extremely helpful. Particularly the bar staff on a very busy Saturday did a great job. Used the swimming pool on the Sunday and have to say the young lady who was supervising in the afternoon was excellent - very caring and considerate to my needs as I have mobility issues. Although my single room was small and a bit dated it was immaculately clean and had everything I needed. I always use this hotel when I visit Plymouth as the facilities are excellent and the staff cannot donenough for you- they make the place what it is!
Lots of plus points, friendly staff, good sized double room and a very big spotlessly clean bathroom. The bed was comfortable and a ceiling fan kept the air circulating. Breakfast was cooked to perfection and my gf toast was very nice. I used the leisure facilities and again, lovely helpful staff, the pool was very clean and I could see the gym was being enjoyed. I would have given a higher score except for several irritating things. Unlocking the door was hit and miss, and two other guests stopped to help me, saying they had struggled too. The plug in the sink was stuck and I had to lift it with my tweezers every time it needed emptying. The biggest problem was the noise underneath my window. Not sure if it was a generator but it meant even with the fan whirring away I got very little sleep. A friend and I ate in the lower floor restaurant and I will review that separately. Would I stay again? Although it's convenient for the theatre probably not, unless I was sure the room wasn't near the machinery noise.
Tired hotel, The room was in need of a revamp. It reminded me of a prison cell, no view at all. Breakfast ok, staff friendly. Room and Room facilities not the best and not much comfort. Fee charged for the car park. It has a central position and close to shops & bars. Do not think I would return.
I wanted to book three treatments and sent an email to the adress provided on website to enquire about availability during the period of my proposed stay. I suffer with quite extreme anxiety so do not use the telephone, else I would have rang them. I did try and use the online booking facility., but error messages just resulted in me wasting about 30 minutes before I gave up. I always find it really frustrating when businesses provide an email but do not either monitor it or can not be bothered to reply , even if they were unable to accommodate me at least I could have tried to book somewhere else. I was wanting to have a bit of a pamper after my dads funeral. However a lack of communication meant this did not happen :-(
Our team really enjoyed being at your lovely hotel yesterday, for our fundraising training and I know Mike the kind hearted trainer from London, enjoyed using the training room and staying in the hotel for a few nights to explore the City. It was great for the team to be reminded of the fabulous central venue and it is on our doorstep! The free parking was very convenient. I also wanted to say what a pleasure the staff are, with the warm greeting from reception team, to the lovely 2 porters that helped, nothing was too much trouble. Stanley was totally adorable with his friendly and kind manner, and a great assist to the hotel. The events coordinator showed one of our team around, to remind us to mentioned the hotel to our supporters, when booking venues and they discussed a fashion show opportunity for a week day, so we will follow this up. A really enjoyable work day. Thank you to the entire team.
Room was basic but clean and nice. Staff were very friendly and service was excellent. Food was very very good but the leisure suite was tired and not working. No working showers in the pool area, unsafe lockers and sauna was broken.
Attended a dear friends wake recently and wanted to say the room was decorated beautifully and the buffet was delicious. However, my heart goes out to the two poor young ladies who's names I've now since forgotten, as they were the only two staff I saw the entire function - even though there was at least 100 guests and had to deal with a situation which required more support than they were given. No manager was seen throughout the entire time this was occurring. Nevertheless the girls handled the situation professionally, however it was obvious they were stressed and uncomfortable and had no help from the manager on shift. They are both a credit to their team and I hope they are praised for their hard work.
Me, my wife, son and daughter stayed here for my daughter's 11th birthday (6th Jan -.8th Jan room 402) as a surprise! Great hotel, great staff, great location. Breakfast was amazing in the morning witch my daughter loved and both kids loved the swimming pool. Highly recommend this hotel if staying in Plymouth
I was given contradictory information by email, on the telephone and in person on arrival about the availability of food on my visit. The last information after checkin was that myself and my family would be able to have food in the bar. On requesting this in the evening we were told that there wasn't any. The people on the reception desk said that even they were being told different things regarding the food situation. We were glad however that we did go out and went to a restaurant where there was some atmosphere which was definitely missing at this hotel. Breakfast was provided the next morning.
I stayed at the hotel in December and wanted to give some feedback. The reception staff were so welcoming and helpful. I attended a work Christmas party and was very impressed by the service and food. The cod was delicious in particular, so please say well done to the chef and team. The room was clean, spacious and very pleasant and I will definitely stay again for the next party. The hotel is very conveniently placed for access to the town centre and events at Plymouth Pavillions too. I felt very comfortable there as a solo guest.
My wife and I have stayed at the New Continental several times and have always been extremely happy with the quality of the rooms and service. On this occasion (30th December) we were checked into, a nice room 318 on the 3rd floor, but unfortunately it did not have any heating working (presumably because the hotel which had been closed for 4 days after Christmas and the room's heating had not been checked before opening up again). Two hours after our arrival the heating in the room and the room next to it was still not working and the hotel was unable to supply us with any temporary electric heating fire to warm it up. Because of lack of heating, we were offered room 112, which did have heating working, which we accepted, because by now we were now feeling cold and just wanted to go out for dinner. However, it soon became apparent that the room was sub-standard, with a musky smell and in need of a great deal of TLC – big hole in the net curtain, small bed, only one coffee table chair, only one bedside table and a 5-minute loud fan noise when you went into the bathroom. After breakfast the next morning, I asked reception why we were allocated such an inferior room, when the hotel heating problem and our time spent waiting in a cold room for the problem to be fixed was clearly their mistake. This room downgrade was particularly annoying as the hotel was not busy and better rooms with heating working must have been available. The receptionist's apology for allocating us this inferior oom certainly did not make up for a very disappointing night's stay.
Hi we went to the continental for Xmas day lunch and we found the table lay out wasn't too bad, not on top of people. The singer had a lovely voice but it was too loud n we couldn't hear each other telling :( Santa was great for the little ones - I have to say the main meal we thought was ok, good portions - abit dark meat under the white meat but the starts duck was thinnest slices ever, and the Xmas pudding was tiniest I've ever had n tasted rubbery :( mince pies were shop bought! I thought with such a lovely posh hotel they could of done better - but I have to say the staff (waiters/waitress) were always smiling couldn't do enough for you, they earnt their money that day and were very hospitable. Maybe next year no singer n just some Xmas carols in background on a cd! Not sure what we will do next year think prob cook at home
Firstly I should say we had a good time, it was great to have entertainment, and the Santa was good, especially that the presents were personalised. Service was generally good, however our whole table was served with one person missed out and I had to go seek out his food. Plates weren't cleared without asking. The food was served hot, but it just wasn't up to the standard you'd expect for £85. The meat was poor quality. Shame as we were in the market for a regular venue for 7 each year.
The Christmas Lunch at the New Continental was the worst Christmas Meal I have ever had. The potatoes were barely cooked, the Turkey was dry and tasteless, the carrot puree was awful, the Yorkshire pudding was dry, the sprouts overcooked and the gravy was like water. Having looked forward to going out for Christmas lunch and paying quite a lot of money for it. the Hotel should be ashamed to serve such poor quality fare. Needless to say we will not be returning next year. Having said all that about the terrible food, the staff were hard working and attentive.
We booked for the Christmas day lunch for the second year running. However, although the staff were friendly we found that the the singer, though good, had music that was too loud for us to have a conversation. As to the meal, although the starter was ok, the main meal was a disappointment. The turkey was pretty dire and seemed processed. My partner says that her Yorkshire pudding was an insult to her taste buds, the carrot puree was tasteless and as we were finishing the meal, we were asked whether we wanted cauliflower cheese with it. Presumably this had been overlooked at the start. Dessert was nothing special and the whole experience was nothing like as good as the previous year. Needless to say we shall not be booking for next year!
We went for Christmas Day Lunch which we had booked in advance, the entrance to the Car Park is not easy to find, we went the wrong way twice. The Staff in the Hotel were very friendly and we were shown to our table, unfortunately the table was just inside the Ballroom and because the door to the road being left open it was quite cold. The Starters were Okay, we had the Prawns and Salmon, the Mains were very poor quality, two of us had Turkey which was dry and tasteless, the other member of our group had Beef which she said was overcooked, The Potatoes were not well cooked and could have done with a longer cook to make them crispy and soft inside, there was something that may or may not have been carrot puree and the gravy was watery and tasteless. All in all this was a very disappointing experience which we will not be repeating next year.
We had an excellent festive lunch with members of our association. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The food was lovely and everyone enjoyed it. The tables looked very festive. Ruby made the organisation experience very stress free even when a few changes had to be made. A really enjoyable time for everyone who attended.
One night stay with 6 other couples. On arrival, the reception staff could not have been more helpful and that continued throughout the stay. Used the bar and the swimming pool which added to the all round experience
What a wonderful stay from start to finish! All the Staff are absolutely amazing from the Reception Team when you arrive, through to the breakfast and housekeeping. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone. Our room was lovely and clean and the towels are superb quality, far superior than many hotels we have stayed in including 5*! Breakfast at the New Continental was excellent and cooked to order plus piping hot and well presented. All in all we had a wonderful stay at the hotel. We have stayed before years ago and it was still the same superb service and breakfast. We all live in Cornwall and wish we had more of an excuse to stay over in Plymouth because we wound definitely be staying at the New Continental Hotel! Thank you to ALL the Staff who are the success of this wonderful traditional hotel.
Stayed for one night after watching Australian Pink Floyd, at the Pavilion. The greeting at the reception was excellent and friendly. We booked a table in Steve's Brasserie and had their pre theatre dinner, which was excellent and service good. Unfortunately there was a couple of parties in the hotel that made it a bit noisy, also having our room roadside noise from the road was evident. Breakfast was excellent. Will stay again when we next go to the Pavilion.
Absolutely lovely hotel staff very helpful and friendly ,food excellent bed comfy the only thing to gripe about was the noisy wind which wasn't the hotels fault.Great location easy access to everything.
Plymouth Samaritans held their 50th anniversary ball at The New Continental and from the very beginning they couldn't have been more helpful. All the waiters were organised and efficient and the food given they were catering for 240 was brought out swiftly, hot and very tasty. Larger local chain hotels certainly don't match the friendly approach taken by this lovely family and we will certainly use them again.
Second stay here and we booked this hotel as right next to the Pavilions where we were attending a show. We had a superior twin room, very spacious and comfortable with everything you would expect. Shame no mini fridge though. Bathroom nice and large too. Beds comfy...we slept well. Breakfast okay All the staff we spoke to were friendly and polite Bit expensive but the location was worth it for us
Excellent service. Couldn't do enough for us. I used to stay at the Crowne Plaza on the Hoe, but their service has really fallen off. Lifts out of order for days etc etc These guys are much better...Will stay with them in future.
I have stayed in this hotel many times, but this was my boyfriends first visit,we had tickets for a show then a away game with the football,so pucked this hotel location,we were on the 2nd floor,we had a double room,it was very clean and smelt clean, the staff were really friendly,we came back after the show and went straight to bed,as we had to be up early the next day,the bed feel small as we are used to king size when we go away for the football, the shower was easy to use,the room temp was controlled using a remote,we didnt have breakfast due to leaving at 7, but it smelt nice,we only heard noise in the morning, there was a group of other guest that started banging on our door around 1ish but then went away,
A 2 day stay over for business, with the 1st day being average. The 2nd day had issues. However, Mistakes/errors aren't important. How they are dealt with, rectified and apologised for are. The customer service was excellent. A five star customer service.
We were given a warm welcome, and staff were generally lovely and forthcoming with help and assistance. Evening meal was lovely, and kids were treated so well. Breakfast was average, staff weren't up to the same standard as other staff we had met. Room was basic but all you need for an overnight stay. Carpark was a nightmare - we entered our details and still got fined. We appealed and lost, and then got taken to a debt collector. Ended up paying £160 for parking for the night. Really dampened our experience and we won't return as a result.
A fantastic, caring team who do their utmost to make you feel at home. When we arrived, the WiFi in our room wasn't working so we were moved to a better room with better WiFi. We'd only planned to stay two nights but ended up staying for four. Abby on reception trekked around the hotel with us trying to find a better room. Nicola seemed to be on reception 24/7 and was so friendly and helpful. As we found out, the rooms vary a lot so if it's hot, do be sure to ask for a room with aircon. Some rooms were nice and bright as they'd clearly been renovated recently but some are a little gloomy. All our rooms were very quiet which was surprising for a grade 2 listed building. The rooms are large and well appointed. It's not that modern so you don't have, for example, plugs beside the bed for charging devices, but otherwise you should have everything you need. Breakfast is in an elegant dining room. They cook your hot breakfast to order and there is a continental selection as well. The only gripe I would have was the positioning of the aircon units. As we stayed during a heat wave, we needed to keep the aircon on overnight to be able to sleep. The units are mounted on the wall next to the bed and the vent is right at the level of the bed so I got blasted with cold air all night.
Just had a night stay here on our way back from holiday and do not really have anything bad to say. The reception staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the room was spacious, clean, well equipped and not too hot ( most hotel rooms are normally far too stuffy). It is in a good central location and parking is on site at a very reasonable price of £5 for each day. Would definitely return
If possible request a room not on the main road side as the traffic noise can be very loud, ideal location as only a short walk to the Theatre, Hoe, Barbican and waterfront area and not forgetting the City Centre
I stayed at this hotel for a reunion dinner and dance. It was perfectly adequate, but lacked the facilities and niceties of a top-tier hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Things such as small toiletries were missing and there wasn't a comfortable lounge in which to relax.
Stayed here three times in the last 12 months. Staff always welcoming. Hotel amenities great. Always use the swimming pool, sauna and steam room. Breakfast is never rushed even if we arrived down a bit later than most people. Also, for a small charge we can park in the hotel car park which is a bonus.
Good location and spa facilities however smelly corridor, basic room, tv channels not working and room not cleaned during our stay. A bit disappointing especially as it was our wedding anniversary……..
This is our second time here and can't fault it. Clean good sized rooms. Breakfast fresh and excellent. We were to early to book in but they were more than happy for us to park our car (£3) for the stay a bargain. Nice bar area to sit and enjoy a couple of drinks. Highly recommend
All staff was very friendly, me and my daughter stayed the night for my daughters birthday did some shopping in Plymouth was only about 10 to 15 min walk to drake . Breakfast was lovely, we went in the pool is a very nice pool good size.. We had a amazing time and will go back next year.
This was our third stay at this lovely hotel and we've booked again for December. The room was spotless,, the staff are so kind and friendly and the breakfast was absolutely cooked to perfection ..I couldn't t fault this hotel at all .The location is good as only a short stroll into town .Thankyou New Continental .
This hotel was superb, good breakfast, friendly smiling staff and nothing was too much trouble. As we are definitely grumpy old women the staff changed all that as nothing was too much trouble. In fact two of this group with a further two friends have already booked in for later this year.
Had an amazing few days in this hotel. The room the clean, the breakfast was amazing. You couldn't fault the staff. The only problem was the pool was out of action. Just bad timing it was being fixed when we got there. No fault to the hotel. Just one of those things. Will definitely book again, and enjoy the pool another time.
Booked in for three days. Booking in was easy and painless. Went straight to the room. I guess due to my loyalty points I had been upgraded. A large room at the front of the hotel. During the evening each night, a fleet of boy racers must have been in the area. Living in a quiet village, not used to noise like this. Upset my sleep.
We booked this trip for 2020. The hotel generously honoured our booking at the original price. The hotel is not a luxury hotel, but the service is of a luxury standard. As I use a wheelchair, the hotel changed me to a more easily accessible room. Our room was light and clean, with a comfortable bed. Breakfast with waiter service. We found a space in the hotel parking for the 3 days we were there, at a cost of £3 per day. We would definitely stay there again.
We stayed two nights. We had arrived and found a parking spot very close to the hotel entrance. Although the hotel doesn't manage the parking and it's not possible to book a parking space in advance it really is an excellent resource given the hotel's position right in the centre of Plymouth. On arrival the car number is registered, the parking charge of £3 per day added to the bill and then the hotel bill has to be paid. The room on the 5th floor had clearly been renovated, the beds were extremely comfortable, the shower excellent, the room had plenty of drawer and cupboard space and the desk has lots of plug sockets – so great for charging, phones, laptops etc. We find hotel duvets much too warm in the summer and had asked for sheets and a blanket or if they didn't have sheets for the duvets to be removed from the duvet cover. The duvets were removed from the cover but no blankets provided. When I mentioned to reception I was provided with extra sheets – not ideal but did enough to keep me adequately warm and not too hot. The room was not airconditioned but a fan was provided and with the window shut it was quiet. Some minor comments about the bathroom. I have reduced mobility on one leg and would have appreciated something to hold onto at waist height above the bath when showering and getting in and out of the bath. It would have been good to have had something to leave washbags on. There isn't enough space on the shelf above the washbasin and its not really acceptable to leave them next to the WC. Breakfast was excellent. The poached egg I asked for on the first morning with my “full English” was the best I've had in a hotel for many years. Next morning we both had kippers but asked if we could substitute black pudding instead of the egg. They did, no question, no problem. The hot courses came quickly on very hot plates and were very good. The choice of cereals, fruit salad etc before it was good too. We had one evening meal at the hotel; a formal reunion dinner for about 30 people. We had chosen our meals in advance from a list provided by the hotel, I had chosen sea bass with risotto. Fish excellent but risotto seriously overcooked – more like rice pudding. All the other food was excellent. I wanted to travel to and from the University by taxi. Reception were very helpful. They have a hot line to “need a cab”. Taxis when ordered came quickly and weren't expensive. The criticisms above are pretty minor. We slept well, at well and felt looked after by an excellent reception team. Not quite an excellent stay but very, very good.
The welcome was warm, the room was really comfortable and the food & drink (only had breakfast) were nice too. We went to the swimming pool a few times, where they also have some small sauna and steam rooms beside the pool. There's also a gym which I didn't use but the facilities all looked good to me.
We went to treat to our self's to a swim,we've been for weeks but when we arrived we needed to be members which we didn't before no one told us this and the employee was very uncooperative and unhelpful we felt isolated and upset doe to the fact it was too expensive prior to our normal session
This hotel is amazing I come here every 3 month to see my son I have adhd and autism the staff are so helpful and kind and welcome me for the first night and always been great with son when he arrives on the second night I am due to return to see son again on 30 June and just want to thank Harriet on reception for helping with phone calls and emails in last two weeks about my next stay and look forward to arriving soon and would recommend this hotel to anyone great staff great reception beautiful rooms nice swimming pool and children friendly I have been going now for few years and would not go any where elese
I thought I would treat myself today so arrived at the hotel to have breakfast the lady in reception was very helpful, took me to the restaurant area the staff there told me the prices £6 for continental and £12 including a cooked breakfast. I opted for the continental and paid my cash was seated asked for tea, a manager came over and asked if I wanted the meat and cheeses yes please! Toast arrived, went to get fresh fruit and juice sat and ate that but sanely nothing else came. When leaving I did suggest to said manager that when asking a customer what they wanted it is usually customary to bring the food to them. I was however full on what I had however that did spoil it a little. I would have asked him to remind him but after heading off to fetch said cheeses and meats he didn't return until I had finished!
My Mother celebrated her 90th Birthday in the Hotel's Ballroom. It took my Daughter and I about an hour setting up with the help of one of the hospitality staff. The staff we magnificent in giving us what we needed. Though not a requirement at that time, they chose to wear masks throughout which was a comfort to some of the covid anxious guests. A cold finger buffet was laid on; it was beautifully displayed, plentiful and delicious. We expressed our desire that if there was any left over it be taken to a facility for the homeless. This request was duly carried out and to our complete satisfaction. The staff distributed Birthday Cake to everybody and really could not be more helpful. The whole event, the ambience, atmosphere and 'can do' attitude of the hospitality staff, together with a bar and excellent bathroom facilities made the whole occasion a huge success and for that we thank you. This hotel is an ideal location to celebrate special occasions. You will not be let down and everybody bends themselves backwards to make your event most memorable.
Not a bad hotel for a week but could do with a serious makeover as you can tell some areas havent been changed for 25 years. did find the room comfortable and clean. Wifi was fine for working. I didnt have breakfast here so couldnt say how it was. Plenty of parking and near enough to town that you could walk somewhere for dinner.
I was only there one night for a concert at the next door Plymouth Pavillions but would not hesitate in going again. I had a pre event meal in Steve's Brasserie, lovely food (I chose 2 courses for £20), friendly service from the waitress. My double room was comfy, nice size bathroom. Only negative I can say is it would have been nice to have some usb electrical sockets. I had one adapter, and thankfully I found a second on the back of the tv, but in todays age charging facilities should be in the room. The hotel is only 5 mins walk from the city centre, and about 15 mins walk from the railway station- a great location for a Plymouth stay.
While i was staying there ,Asked the reception to book 2 nights a week for the next 5 weeks. They could not do it straight away and ask for an email. They sent an email confirming the dates and prices, to which I excepted. Another email arrived asking if they could contact me for card details, which was not a problem. They rang for card details and then said , oh we dont have any rooms available. Seems this place can let you down.
Myself and my Husband have just returned from a 2 night stay, we were part of a large party of 16. We found all the reception staff to be friendly and approachable and very helpful through the booking process and during our stay. The superior double room was of a good size, and was very warm and comfortable. The dining room staff were great and breakfast was varied, and the cooked breakfast was always served hot and was of a high standard. We used the spa area and enjoyed the swimming pool and sauna, and I also booked a treatment. The cleanliness of the hotel was immaculate, there have been comments that the hotel could do with a lick of paint, but I found the decor in keeping with the era. The location is perfect for visiting Plymouth, many of the sights being in walking distance. We would definitely stay here again.
Stayed here for the second time this year and it didn't disappoint .The rooms are spotless .the staff couldn't do enough for you and the breakfast was perfect .This hotel is one of the best I've stayed in and it's very good value for money ,we are returning in August . Thanks to all for making our stay most enjoyable.
Spoke to a lady called Harriet on the phone today and she was amazing. A real credit to the new continental hotel, She was so polite and helpful. I couldn't ask for anyone better! I cant wait for my stay in september, for my wedding. Thankyou.
As said in the title, no recognition or provision of service for loyalty member. Unclean room, dirty carpet and bathroom (toilet). No replacement of shower/bath products after day one. Broken equipment (windows rattling and propped with used cardboard box). Staff unresponsive. Noisy guests banging doors, children running up and down corridors. No food (lunch) or drinks in the bar, no offer of provision of food or drinks in the bar at lunchtime or evening when asked. We reported issues on day one but gave up on day two as the issues continued we were disappointed with the unresponsive staff and couldn't wait to leave
Perfect place to stay when going to a show next door. Breakfast had many choices and was served on nice warm plates. We also had a bar meal which was perfectly prepared and presented. Every one of the staff members were cheerful and helpful. The car park was partly on a slope and very tight.
Myself and my son stayed for one night in a twin room, we were seeing a show at the theatre royal which is nearby Our room was clean and comfortable, the staff were friendly and accommodating, breakfast was delicious and the leisure facilities are great, wish we could have stayed longer thank you!
The thing that really set this hotel apart was the friendly and helpful staff! We had to move rooms due to a bad mattress but the comfort of the bed is always subjective so we can't really complain about that. Mattress was too soft just in case you wanted to know :-) Great location and very clean. Bear in mind there might be a noisy wedding going on at the weekends so make sure you get a room on a high floor ;-)
The hotel is well situated within Plymouth near Union Street, the rooms are comfortable and clean and the staff is very helpful and always pleasant and solves any issues with booking taxis to get around. I will definetly come back.
Gym - excellent! Staff - excellent! Cleanliness - Outstanding! Honestly, the only things I would say could be improved slightly are that it could do with a lick of paint and the carpets updating in the hall (but hey, it is a listed building) and the towels need to be bigger. Other than that I was extremely happy with my stay and will definitely try and book for my next business trip to Plymouth.
The hotel itself is a beautiful building with lots of great feature mouldings , elegant and immaculately clean throughout; very comfortable room too. The staff were helpful and welcoming, making the stay very relaxing. Food good and great location for the centre of town and trips locally, thoroughly recommend.
Stayed for two nights, not sure I could stay for any longer nor will I probably stay there again Despite paying £71 for the room, you then have to pay £3 per day for parking. The reason I chose this hotel was because it had parking, I did not however realise I had to pay for it. The room and bathroom was compact to say the least. There were no plug sockets near the bed and for some bizarre reason the plug sockets that were available are in the middle of the wall, so your mobile dangles whilst it is charging. There was no chance of charging my toothbrush! The towels in the bathroom whilst clean are a little on the small side and the shower cubicle must have been designed with a very small person in mind. Overall, I would be high unlikely to stay there again
We stayed one night to attend the Plymouth pavilions. Room was ready early, good parking, hoe, Barbican and drakes circus all within walking distance for us. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Room was clean and breakfast was great. We thought the price was very reasonable.
Stayed for 2 nights with my mum over the weekend. The hotel was very clean and had all the basic necessities. The decor was slightly dated but does it's job. Only a couple of small issues with the room, the room was quite warm but windows may be dangerous with young kids, and there are no plug sockets near the bed. The pool, ‘spa' and gym were very convenient and we used a couple of times in our stay. The reception staff were very helpful and friendly too! The location is great, walkable to most areas of the city but far enough away to avoid a lot of the city noise.
A fantastic stay. The staff were extremely helpful. The pool and spa area were clean and well maintained. The food in the restaurant was very good and the staff very friendly. All in all highly recommended and I will return.
We chose this hotel as the entrance to the Pavillions is basically at the bottom of the car park and we were attending a concert there. It's about a 10-15 walk into the main shopping centre so if you're not visiting the pavilions you'd probably want to stay at the holiday inn which is much more central but I'm not sure if it has parking. There is car parking available at the continental for £3 for 24 hours so that's nice and handy. Inside the staff are very friendly and welcoming and let us check in early which was appreciated. The rooms are basic but very clean. The downside is the location of the hotel, next to a dual carriageway, means it's very noisy from around 5.30am so you can't sleep with the window open. It's still noisy even when closed. Consequently I woke up at 5.30am and couldn't get back to sleep so I was shattered. It's a shame as the bed is really comfy! In the room the only things lacking are: 1. There are no bedside lamps - only overhead spotlights - which makes it hard for one person to read if another wants to go to sleep and there's no subdued lighting at all so it's either on or off bright lights. 2. There are no plug sockets next to the bed so you can't charge your phone next to your bed which is a pain if you use it for a clock as I do. You would have to walk over to the dressing table every time you want to check your phone. 3. You can hear everything through the walls though I've yet to find a U.K. hotel where this isn't the case. 4. There are no sweeteners on the tea/coffee tray which is super annoying as I can't stand sugar so my morning brew was a bit rubbish Other than that the room is fine. Basic but very clean. There's no shampoo or conditioner but there is a bar of soap and some shower gel and some quite small fluffy towels. We didn't use the pool / gym and didn't have breakfast so no idea what these facilities are like.
We stayed here for a couple of nights, have visited Plymouth alot, but not stayed here before. The hotel was very nice - helpful staff, good sized rooms, spotlessly clean and well equipped. Good location for the Hoe, shops and Barbican. Didn't try any of the food. Would definitely stay again.
Smacks of Jack Nicholson wandering around in the shining. Dated is the key word. Massive gap in the windows meant I might as well as slept in the harbour. Breakfast okay, but again circa 1800's . Pool needs a clean, big gaps on wall where the tiles are off.
I had booked a single room and was surprised by the size of the room and bathroom, much more generous than many in which I have stayed. Very helpful and friendly staff and a good location for Plymouth Hoe and the town centre
We stayed here for 1 night. Room was adequate with everything you need. Helpful staff & we were able to use the pool facilities while waiting for our room. I have never stayed anywhere where the sound proofing between rooms is so inadequate. Kept awake & then woken up the next day by the women in the next room squawking, laughing & swearing at each other plus you can hear the shower running. For the price you charge the sound proofing should be better. We stayed at the Copthorne the night before for a fraction of the price & there was no sound between rooms.
Just a one night stay, first time at the New Continental after previous hotels have been found lacking but I genuinely believe it won't be our last stay. Polite and pleasant staff. Clean rooms with a large amount of space, so no feeling cramped. Brilliant facilities, they even let us check in early, which was very kind and appreciated.
Friendly staff, lovely room and great breakfast, £3 for 24 hours parking was great value. Good position and only a short walk to the Barbican for restaurants and bars. We will definately stay here on our next visit.
It's nice to see the other reviews mention their rooms having stained carpets and the staff being rubbish Unwelcoming and rude. My room had a huge stain near the bed and table and the very rude management called me and told me they needed to get the carpet cleaned and charged me 50 quid. I asked for photos because if it was something I did I'd happily pay for it but I wanted it confirmed that it wasn't one of the many stains in the room already. The carpets were rank! First lady I spoke to said I should had reported stains on the floor which is stupid never heard that in my life the second man said he was told the stain was wet that I did it and he was charging 50 quid..his tone was horrendously disgusting I'm sure I would had noticed a large dark stain upon leaving and I would always pay for damages if I actually believed I did it and if they sent me me photo of the damage I would know straight away if it was me or the stains that were there before hand. Regardless I would never go back even without that issue the pool was disgusting. Filthy changing rooms, my room smelled of mildew when I arrived. Again carpets were filthy and very large stains. The food is mediocre nothing to rave about was overall overpriced and now even more so for a very average hotel at best. The only good thing I have to say about this place after today is about the location. I wouldn't stay here again if they paid me to. Even reading their responses to the complaints on here is unconvincing and full of excuses for their crap service and rude staff and dirty rooms.
My room was lovely and comfortable, hotel very clean, all staff I encountered were friendly and helpful including the laundry man when i ended up on the ground floor in the staff quarters by pressing basement on the lift ! Pool area just a little tired some tiles on wall needed fixing by a ventilation area which was a bit unsightly but given the 2years of covid , hoteliers have just had the hardest time , fine for a swim and again friendly staff .
We only stayed for one night and arrived in the morning so couldn't check in but the receptionist was really helpful and friendly offering to store our luggage and logged the car so we could leave it and go into Plymouth. We checked in early evening and we were shattered from a day sight seeing, the bistro was closed but the bar/room service menu was great. Lovely hot bath, huge room, comfy bed and great room service and best nights sleep for a long time. The place was really clean and the staff still wearing masks we left happy bunnies
Routine stay at the New Continental. Always welcoming. We had an excellent room and fine breakfast. Despite a function taking part in the hotel the service was excellent. Simon the manager keeps his team on their toes.
A great one night stay, swim, steam, sauna, shame there was no hot tub. Breakfast was great, and dinner in Steve's Brasserie perfect! All staff were fantastic and all westing face masks which was superb. Room 224 was nice and quiet, although bed was a little hard, but that's personal choice. Easy/short stroll to the Hoe.
Clean spacious room, good shower and ideal for a night stay close to theatre, shops and restaurants. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Lovely breakfast with excellent service and nothing was too much trouble.
Nice hotel and ideal for all city centre amenities, 5 minutes walk to theatre and main shopping area, 15 minutes walk to Barbican, basic hotel however good value for money clean and tidy, all staff during our stay were very friendly.
Just metres from Plymouth Pavilions and central for the main theatres and the shops and restaurants in the city centre. Plenty of parking on site, but booking.com hid the fact that you have to pay £3 per night. A reasonably comfortable, though aging, bed. A decent freshly cooked breakfast, though the hot options are limited to a Full English, the veggie alternative and grilled kippers. Prices vary enormously depending on whether there is an event at the Pavilions. There's a spa, gym and pool on site, which is free to guests - I didn't get there on this occasion, so can't comment further. Overall, a shade tired throughout, though not enough to put me off staying again.
As regulars to this Hotel for Christmas lunch we thought we would receive similar professional service to other years. Arrived about 12:30 for 13:00 start. After being seated we asked for drinks menu to order wine and bubbly for our table. We were told to go to the bar for all drinks. This caused a gathering at the bar which was difficult to comply with social distancing also we did not go back although we would have purchased more. Food was acceptable, Service of the food was extremely poor staff stood around perimeter looking and appeared to be waiting for the last person in room to finish eating before clearing any tables. This routine continued throughout, resulting in more than half the guests leaving before coffee and mince pies served, we left after 4pm without being served coffee and mince pies. We would need reassurance service will be improved significantly before considering The Continental for our 2022 Christmas Lunch. Disappointing not value for money.
We spent two night here and it's a lovely hotel. We were made to feel very welcome by Hariot ,Callum and James .The family room was a good size ,clean ,comfy beds and a nice size bathroom .Breakfast was very good ,freshly cooked and plentiful.we have booked to return in April as it was such a nice experience ,Many thanks to everyone who made our stay so enjoyable.
I stayed 7 nights and absolutely worth it staffs were friendly and approachable, breakfast was very authentic and delicious, pool and sauna was cleaned most say Beautiful and classic hotel in town, loved it :)
Lost a star for not allowing my review to on to the Facebook page. I booked my groups Christmas party here. The venue was lovely, the staff were amazing and attentive. And they all enjoyed the disco that went on til 1am. It was everything we wanted from a Christmas party except for the food. It would seem that vegetarian means 'not very hungry'. When my meal arrived everyone on my table automatically tried giving me food from their plates because my meal was so disappointingly small and they felt bad for me. It was embarrassing. Its the first time I've still been hungry after a 3 course meal. And for £38 a head it wasn't very good. The creme brulee, which is the dessert I always choose if available, was tasteless and the biscuit that came with it tasted stale. I actually left before 1am as I was hungry so I wanted to go find something to eat down Union Street. So a thumbs up for the Venue and the staff and a thumbs down for the food (vegetarian option anyway. Can't comment on the others).
Very clean and comfortable hotel. Spacious rooms with great beds. Lovely bathrooms with lots of towels. Great showers and bath. Pool and gym area were nice and well equipped. Breakfast was above expectations and really delicious. Super friendly staff. Cannot fault anything.
Top gaff top food great friendly helpful efficient staff and top beer. Breakfast next day was spot on as well. Nice good sized bath. The bed was massive and super comfy, room was perfect temperature but there was the option of air con or to turn the radiator on. Parking was good and free and the hotel is in a great location.
My husband and l stayed for 2 nights, we had tickets for the show at The Theatre Royal . Our room was spotless and the staff were all very helpful.Lovely hotel and would stay again. Only criticism is not a very wide selection for the continental breakfast and the pillows were too hard although l appreciate the latter is a personal preference.
Very friendly and helpful staff. I didn't see anywhere on the website that said there were steps at the entrance, this was a problem for me as I have a mobility walker, it was sorted by using a different entrance, nothing was too much trouble and I would willingly return.
Excellent mid-range hotel - easy walking distance to Theatre Royal and shopping. Lovely staff - friendly and efficient. Parking on site was quickly arranged for us. Rooms were clean and welcoming with everything we needed. Easy to adjust radiators and lovely thick curtains. Good bath/showers. Breakfast did not disapoint - perfect poached eggs and good coffee. This will be our go-to hotel in Plymouth! Highly recomended.
Amazing hotel fantastic room and wonderful friendly staff. Beautifully clean and tidy throughout and breakfast was good value and worth having as part of the stay. Will definitely stay again and recommend to friends
The hotel was in the perfect location, the room was lovely and spacious. The breakfast was fantastic and the staff were lovely from when we arrived until we checked out. Will definitely be booking to stay there again in the near future.
My wife and I stayed here for a birthday celebration/night out. The hotel staff were superb - very friendly, professional and helpful. The room was spotless and well presented. If I were to make suggestions for the future it would be that some modernisation would help enhance the environment and although the £3 parking fee isn't expensive, I would include this in the room price. I don't expect to be charged for parking as a guest, although I do appreciate that the hotel's location does potentially attract a parking premium. Thanks for a lovely stay, though and I do intend to return.
Stayed here for one night as we were going to an event at Plymouth Pavilion. Ideal location. Nice, clean room. Lovely cooked breakfast the next morning. First room had an issue, I went to reception and reported it, we were moved to another room straight away without any fuss.
A very loud function was taking place on Saturday night which could be heard in many rooms until 12am. The hotel is also used as a boxing club for teenagers on Sunday afternoon. Groups of 10-20 teenagers were hanging around outside the hotel entrance drinking and smoking making it difficult to even get through the front door of the hotel. Loud music and P.A. from the Boxing again heard in the rooms above. A long black hair found hanging on the bathroom wall. Photo attached. Old dried blood on the bedding. Photo attached. The reception, bar and breakfast staff were all patient. polite, professional and accommodating. The duty manager was confrontational, and said I could leave the hotel if I didn't like it. Breakfast was good.
The hotel and staff were great especially the young lady on the reception when I checked in on Sunday night, they had a boxing event on and there were groups of young men hanging around outside and as a solo female traveller it was quite unnerving. The receptionist apologised and said they would be gone in the evening which they were - she went out of her way to reassure me. The room was spotless and a good size. What let it down was it was extremely hot and the radiator could not be turned off and the window would not open. This made the room very stuffy for sleeping and I didn't sleep well. The breakfast was well organised, overall due to the heat in the room I would not book again - this needs to be addressed it must be awful in summer.
unfortunately despite asking for a quiet room, was given one overlooking busy road junction and opposite noisy pub. Room was hot - poor ventilation. Good, comfy, new bath. Crisp bedding, but very poor, heavy duvet. Leisure facilities not as described - utilitarian in nature.
Really lovely hotel with fantastically friendly staff offering a great place to stay in the city centre. Brasserie offered some lovely food (popcorn prawns were delicious) and a good range of items available. Bedroom decor was a little dated bit clean and tidy, with a really comfortable bed. Would definitely stay again and recommend to others.
Enjoyed a lovely overnight stay last night at The New Continental Hotel in Plymouth very nice very clean Hotel and excellent staff had a pleasant bar meal yesterday early evening and the two young members of staff who were on duty at the bar were a credit to the Hotel the service was excellent, later in the evening when we returned the night manager looked after us and again the service was spot on hope the owners realise what great members of staff these people are. Breakfast this morning was lovely freshly cooked and hot served excellently. A very enjoyable stay was had by us both. My only small complaint was the hard bed and hard pillows but we will be back again.
The hotel is lucky to have Jacky and Emily on their staff in Blue Harbour Spa. Without a doubt one of the best massages I have ever had. Emily was superb and it was clear she is experienced. Jacky gave my daughter a hot stone massage which she absolutely loved. A great graduation treat.
We stayed one night, for a family event, the room was lovely and clean, spotless in fact! Lovely swimming pool and gym, we spent quite a while in there, breakfast was fab, lots of choice and the staff we fab, can't wait for our next stay Thanks so much for a great weekend
We had a long weekend stay. Our room was clean and comfortable, just a little small. We enjoyed the range of hot breakfast available. Service was friendly and efficient. The location is great for exploring the city with most sites within a 20 minute walk.
Very clean room.Comfortable bed. Will recommended hotel to friends.Close to town so no need for taxi.staff very helpful and friendly.Room reasonably priced cheaper than premier inn and travel inn.Car park very cheap£3.00 for 24 hrs.
Stayed for 2 nights. The room we stayed in was abysmal. dated and nothing like the photos on the web. The carpet was stained, the paint work was cracked . The bathroom was tiny. The area for the wash basin was so ridiculously small with no access to the towel rail.. The towels were too small. The hotel was like a ghost town although the receptionist informed me it was 90% full ?? .We did ask for a quiet room which was quiet but the outlook through the grubby window was diabolical . Never never again
Rung on the day for a booking and spoke to a friendly receptionist. The welcome was great too. But the pool was a shocker. The changing room floor was covered in mud and hair and the shower areas were grubby. Half of the lockers were broken and the safety mats had hair in then too. We had changed in our room and went to the pool. The water was COLD! The steam room there was a guest who kept putting albus oil on the fire pit and hadnt a clue why it was dangerous. We had a swim and grabbed out stuff. The changing rooms were still filthy so I spoke to the receptionist who was busy gossiping with her friend. I told her all the things wrong and after an hour it should have been cleaned. She could not care less and was quite rude. The following morning my daughter had refused to go swimming again ( my plan was not to use the changing room). The staff had only just started to clean from the day before. But they had not used a rubber broom so didnt get all the hair up. The floors needed scrubbing, but at least some of the showers were getting done. i spoke to the man on reception who had much more enthusiasm about the place. But the whole place needs a deep clean. The heating to the pool looked at (boiler service?) and a good overhaul. I had asked for a taxi booking, but when I went to check it had been done I had to wait in reception to ensure it had been completed on the second request. the lift was very slow We had loads of luggage and had to walk to the other end of a couple of corridors without assistance which was not helpful. the room was very old fashioned and again in need of an update, but it was very clean. Breakfast both my daughter and me got burnt vegetarian sausages. But the reception and bar area was nice as were the staff. this place has great potential but at the price we paid I would have expected a lot better. If they can do it up and keep the good staff I would return
Lovely hotel, friendly staff, great location, 10 minute walk from the Hoe or 5 to 10 minute walk to shops. Room and ensuite were of a good size. Bed was comfortable and we slept well. Breakfast was very good and service of staff at breakfast was excellent. We have stayed in various hotels and guest houses during our visits to Plymouth, but this has been the best and we will definitely use this hotel for our next trip.
We stayed here for the night while visiting our Son at University and having completed a road trip around Cornwall. In fact, we got an awesome deal on Booking.com while we were sat in the Cornwall services. We were warmly greeted at reception by Harriet and Luke? (Memory is a bit blurred, to be honest). We were told our room (119) was on the first floor and advised there were a few stairs to reach the room, but on arrival at the room it was more like a flight of stairs, we gave it a go, but being disabled we thought it would be too much to keep going up and down during the stay, so we returned to reception and asked if there was an alternative. The room (110) was a lot larger, a bigger bathroom (take your own toiletries as the soap will withstand at best a good scrub) and very clean and tidy. A little tip here - Take a USB memory stick full of your favourite programs in MP4 format and it'll fit nicely into the Bush TV on the wall. Harriet was awesome and sorted us an alternative room, and even advised it faced a busy main road and we may find it too noisy (We did not, even with the window open, slept like freshly cut logs). It was awesome to have the aircon as we both got a tad warm during the night and I flicked it on and we were soon chilly again with the aircon unit focused on the bed. Breakfast the next morning was a very slick operation, the "continental" was out awaiting us, pastries, cereals, fruit salad, yoghurts and fruit juices and we were seated and our hot order was taken. It arrived very swiftly from the kitchen and was well presented and a good-sized portion, with quite thick bacon. Our only critic of breakfast would be a choice of Cumberland or pork sausage as we prefer a more "herby" sausage, but we are picky eaters. Parking is to the rear of the hotel. beware of parking up the side as it gets a tad snug when you want to get out if you have an SUV. I did not notice any marked Disabled parking spaces, oh and be warned there is a slight slope going from the car park to the hotel entrance. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will certainly be back when we visit our son while he is at Plymouth Uni.
Really nice hotel in Plymouth close to the Hoe and the harbour great for the railway station and the town centre The rooms are nice clean good mattress on the bed for sleeping and a fantastic good hot breakfast delicious all the staff very helpful and friendly.
The New Continental Hotel Plymouth offered my tour group excellent and clean accommodation which is situated close to all of the cities attractions. The menu choice was excellent with a high standard of presentation. The staff are a young well trained team who work together for the benefit of the clients. We will always be pleased to return to the hotel again. Geoff Allen Travallen Travel & Events
Really nice stay. Food was beautiful. Asked for balloons in our room and they did not disappoint. Staff were so lovely and helpful. I felt safe with their Covid procedures and sanitisation points. Will definitely be coming back!
This hotel was great. The staff were so friendly and helpful and made our whole stay so easy and enjoyable. Our room was very comfortable, spacious and clean. There was quite a lot of noise from outside late in the evening but that's to be expected on a bank holiday weekend in the city. My Godson loved using the pool which was also clean and well maintained.
Whilst this hotel was looking a little tired around the edges (appreciate there's been no pennies coming in, so major decoration was probably not financially viable, but a lick of paint wouldn't have gone amiss), it was made up for by the really helpful and genuinely friendly attitude of all the staff - my husband and I didn't come across even one grumpy employee! Our room was clean and included such things as a proper iron and ironing board thus avoiding having to wear crumpled clothes to the party we were attending or attempting to use a travel iron on the bed or other suitable hard surface! There was also a proper hairdryer, and last but not least they provided an anti-slip mat in the bath which whilst I use one at home all the time, I haven't seen provided by a hotel in a really long time, and it makes life so much safer and easier! As well as this, they provided tea and coffee making facilities with enough tea bags, coffee and milk so as not to have to ration making a drink! The breakfast was really enjoyable, a good spread of cereals, yoghurts, pastries and fruit as well as a full cooked breakfast which came out well-cooked and hot! There is also a leisure club there with a pool and small gym which unfortunately we didn't get the time to use, but it looked good. Overall a really relaxing stay.
I'm my 30 + years of coach driving this must be the most unfriendly hotel I've ever had the misfortune to stay at. Allocated a room that was less that 5ft high in places with beams running at an angle through the room. My 10 year old grandson would of struggled to use the mini sized shower .
We had a 4 poster room, quite pricey at £240 per night. It was a anniversary treat from my husband. First thing I did upon hearing we were staying at the NCH was trip advisor/ reviews. I was dreading the visit - especially as my hubby had forked out so much for 1 night. The reviews were not good, but I am here to tell you, its bloomin lovely! The receptionist, the bar staff everyone was lovely and accommodating. Our room was lovely and they really do under sell themselves in the description. I loved my stay, I hope you do too.
This is an excellent 3 star hotel offering good facilities and close to the city and barbican. The staff were very friendly and always happy to help,an excellent breakfast with the limitations in place with COVID, swimming pool good and bar facilities excellent and we appreciated the happy hour with the Plymouth gin offer. The bedrooms nice and roomy with all the necessary requirements, happy to return hopefully in the off season. The Plymouth fireworks were just amazing for the uk championship.
Hotel is well located, within walking distance of everything in the centre of Plymouth. Bed was comfortable and room a good size, albeit a bit dated. It can also be a bit noisy at night outside with traffic. The staff were the main highlight of the stay though -- everyone from the receptionists to bar staff and cleaners were so friendly and helpful, they were an absolute delight! The pool, sauna and gym are an added bonus. Gym is well equipped for a hotel. My kids loved the pool, although I think perhaps some attention is needed on the chlorine levels -- some days the smell was stinging my eyes and water was quite misty.
Had a generally lovely stay but was particularly impressed by the menu screening and labelling, and delicious food available for people with allergies and intolerances. Super service, comfy rooms, friendly reception staff, and v convenient for the town centre.
We had to book a last minute family room the the New Continental after torrential rain cut short our camping trip in Dartmoor and our tent flooded at 5am! I used the messaging facility on booking.com to let the hotel know of our situation and they were phenomenal in ensuring we were rescued from our experience! Alysha on the front desk was particularly helpful and went out of her way to arrange an early check in for us so we could get clean and dry. This really made a huge different to us. The family room has a separate bedroom with two of the single beds and is more than adequate. The bathroom is a wet room with waterfall shower which felt like heaven after camping! The leisure complex is included in the price and is enjoyable for both children and adults. The pool allows for both swimming and paddling with little ones. The gym is well equipped. Breakfast was a real highlight. Plenty of hot and cold options available and restaurant staff are friendly and helpful. Plenty of parking for just £3 and easy walking distance from restaurants in the city and the Barbican. We are really pleased that we found this hotel and recommend it highly.
What a lovely hotel in a great location. The hotel staff were polite and friendly and the hotel was kept clean. The Breakfast restaurant staff were wonderful. They were very polite, helpful and professional. We had a full English breakfast every day and there was a choice of fruit, yogurts, cereal, croissants, with an option of ham and cheese. The breakfast staff were superb. They were a young team and It was a great pleasure to see them giving such a wonderful and perfect service. We were able to use the leisure facilities. Nice size swimming pool, sauna , steam room and gym. Towels are also supplied here. We booked a family room (number 219) as there were 4 of us. This was a good size with a double bed and 2 single beds, good sized bathroom with air conditioning. We would highly recommend The New Continental. It's a short walk of approx 20 mins to the restaurants and pubs and the marina. Bovisand bay was a 40 minute drive and what a beautiful place . Ample parking , £5.00 for the whole day . We also drove to TORPOINT in Cornwall and were able to take the car on the ferry for £2.00. Was such a treat being able to visit Cornwall for the day. Overall a great hotel and do Fuad with our choice for our first staycation!
A lovely hotel in a great position for experiencing Plymouth. The breakfast is great with a good choice I recommend the kippers. The hotel has recently been refurbished and is spotless. The staff are very attentive and nothing is too much trouble. There is a great choice of accommodation and families are made most welcome
All staff were really friendly, helpful and professional from arrival to checkout. We were a party of 10, with 6 adults and 4 children and the hotel catered for all our needs. There was an excellent choice for breakfast, it was nicely presented and tasted good too! The family rooms (sleeping 4) were far more spacious than other hotels we've stayed at, as was the double room. An excellent location within walking distance to the Hoe, Barbican and aquarium. The only time we used the car was to visit Dartmoor Zoo, which was well worth a visit. The swimming pool area was lovely, with a small pool for little ones. The only negative thing I can say was the noise outside on the Saturday evening and road noise. Other nights were quieter. This was beyond the control of the hotel and I would still return.
We stayed here for a week in July and had a lovely stay. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast offered a wide range of continental and cooked choices. The rooms were spacious and clean and all had air conditioning. We would definitely recommend this hotel, especially as a base to explore the city and the Barbican district.
Stayed in room 116,very spacious, clean and well situated for the city . Parking very reasonable. Restaurant excellent .Not pricey and excellent food. Staff very helpful and willing to engage. Great to be able to use pool, sauna, steam room and gym for free.
The staff are very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The hotel is spotless clean. The bed was very comfortable and the room a good size. Breakfast was gorgeous loads of choice Only thing was bar area was to cold at the Everton enjoy a drink.
I went with my wife and daughter and we were all very pleased with our experience. Despite the problems of COVID, the staff did all possible to make our stay a happy one. Particular praise goes to those serving at breakfast - the service was outstanding.
Booked a break including breakfast & ended up with a twin room. Asked for and was prepared to pay for a double but was told none available. The view was a rusty staircase and another room. The room was ok but no water supplied. Breakfast was quite good. Easy access to town & parking was cheap albeit we had to pay for it.
Basic room with no complimentary bottled water. Breakfast buffet table open for anyone to go and help themselves to non covered pastries etc , witnessed guests at buffet table with no mask on. Hotel staff appeared miserable with an uncomfortable atmosphere at breakfast. Would definitely not return.
A great place to stay and explore Plymouth. Fantastic amenities. Lovely swimming pool. Excellent breakfast. Nice big room with everything you need. Great location, walk to the Barbican and all bars and restaurants. Staff very helpful. Lovely clean hotel Would highly recommend to you. 5* for me.
The best thing about this hotel is the staff. They go out of their way to make you feel as welcome and comfortable as possible. We had a couple of tiny issues with our room that was sorted out immediately. The room was spotless, bright white quality bedding and comfortable beds, beautifully clean carpet, fluffy white towels in an immaculate bathroom. As it was an extremely hot day/night we did struggle on the top floor with no air conditioning but a fan was provided. Breakfast was stunning. The staff again were extremely attentive, asking us if we had enjoyed our evening out, making sure we had everything we needed. The cooked breakfast was delicious, served on hot plates which I love. Plentiful tea and coffee served to the table and melt in the mouth croissants. All in all a lovely experience. Book here and you won't be disappointed, great location for visiting the Hoe and the Barbican.
Fantastic location next to historical and modern. Parking on site very reasonable 3 nights £9 parking. We are staying in 101 which is immaculately clean, possibly recently refurbished with fresh soft bouncy carpet, amazing comfortable bed and lovely high quality fresh linen. Room was bright and airy, quirky spotlessly clean bathroom. We ate in Steve's brasserie on site with a delicious charcoal perfectly cooked steak, sorbet and cheese board. Great selection of wine, modern comfortable restaurant. The staff couldn't do enough for you! Very attentive, friendly, helpful and the covid regs clearly followed. The swimming pool was great (£1 needed for a locker). Bar staff, housekeeping, reception, restaurant , breakfast staff all extremely professional. We are really enjoying our stay and highly recommend this beautiful hotel. We will definitely come back. Well done for selecting quality staff to work in your quality hotel. Very happy couple. !
Stayed for one night with my 16yr old son and we both loved it! Our twin room was clean and comfortable and both our evening meals and breakfast were delicious. We very rarely use hotels as I'm a school cook in Cornwall and it takes a lot of saving up, in the past I have felt that in “posh” places like this they somehow know this and look down on us as not really belonging in that kind of place, probably my own insecurities but I couldn't be more grateful to all the staff at the new continental for being so friendly and welcoming, it was also the first time my son had ever stayed in a hotel! If you want a swim I would recommend booking early as we didn't think of it till just before 9 on our day of departure and were too late, would love to go back one day so maybe next time! Convenient location for most things in Plymouth definitely gets a big thumbs up from us!
Told we would have rooms next to each other. Checked in to find rooms allocated were on different floors of the hotel! Pre booked swimming pool for each day of our stay. Went to go swimming only to be told all the reservations for the pool were accidentally schreded so tuff! 3pm room still not been serviced, told new bookings take priority! Safe in one room not working When we bought this to the attention of the hotel manager he just said why don't you and your children just leave and I'll reimburse you the remainder of your stay
Very clean, tidy up market hotel. Very good sized rooms we with very comfortable bed in a central location with parking. Found the Staff very professional and helpful. Nice atmosphere in bar. Would recommend & stay again.
Very friendly staff at checkin. Our room was very nice with 2 chairs and a coffee table and a desk and chair too, ticked all my hubby's boxes. Bed very comfortable and towels were so soft. Everything worked in the bathroom and the hair dryer was well located close to the mirror. Breakfast was more than adequate and we enjoyed dinner one night in the restaurant. We enjoyed the pool and the steam room too. Overall a great experience, thank you.
First weekend back after months of closure. Staff did really well. Service was good and will only become more efficient. Hotel is tired in places. Rooms fairly small and outdated but fit for purpose. Bar was welcoming wine list limited but overall good. Restaurant Steve's Brasserie was good. Breakfast was served in a function room down a few corridors in an “executive” area. It was adequate.
The staff make this Hotel. I have never experienced such attentive, pleasant & helpful young staff in any UK hotel before. Both the room and the bathroom were spacious and spotlessly clean. The hotel serves a great breakfast and service is good. Only downside, very limited choice on the Brasserie menu. Could do with introducing sandwiches, rolls etc. That said, the chef very kindly made us a couple of toasties which were not on the menu. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, starting with a swim in the pool most mornings, which is a great way to start the day. Highly recommended.
We visited with my daughter to see Plymouth university campus. Hotel was immaculately cleaned and to quote my wife "one of the cleanest hotel rooms I have ever stayed in". Welcome at reception was excellent from the young lady on the desk. Rooms are fine with comfortable bed and as my wife said, very clean. We ate in the Brasserie, as weather was poor and had an enjoyable meal, with excellent service. Breakfast in the morning continued the excellent service with a great choice, served at the table due to Corona virus. Checkout was simple and quick. Parking by hotel is only £3 for 24 hours. Hotel is located in the town centre, close to the Hoe and Barbican. If my daughter attends Plymouth university, I look forward to visiting her and will definitely stay in the New Continental.
Big room for 5 person. 4 beds. Bath. Heating control. Perfect location. Inside large swimming pool. And small for kids. Gym. Helpfull stuff. Parking £3 per day. Large lift. Would love to come back again. Feels like 5 star hotel
I stayed at this hotel from the 19th of October until 21st of October on the arrival of all the staff in receptionist be very good but I must give a special mention for Luke in the restaurant who looked after all the needs Luke could not have done enough for me thank you
Just returned from a lovely stay. We asked for a room high up and away from the lifts and we got it. The only thing I would say is that the 5th floor has small windows and a balastrade which makes it rather dark. Very clean everywhere in the hotel. Wonderful breakfast with very good quality food. White table cloths! Very pleasant waiting staff. Chairs cleaned in between customers and new table cloths laid. Around 10 minutes to the Hoe and the Barbican, for me anyway. Parking on site £3 per day. Yes some rooms are a little dated but still very good value. Would recommend. Nearly forgot to say the biscuits provided were really nice.
Whilst it looks good from the outside, inside looks dated. Ringing reception to get tv sorted took over 15 minutes then had to wait further 15 for someone to come and rectify, the room I stayed in 223 could do with more modern furniture ,the existing looks past it's best. One plus the food in the restaurant was very good.
Great hotel amazing staff and the food at Steve's brasserie is absolutely amazing can't recommend highly enough. Rooms are spotless and very roomy on site parking close to the harbour and main attractions its a great place
We stayed overnight in Plymouth, on our journey to Cornwall and chose the New Continental Hotel. Price was very good for a double room for the two of us, including breakfast. Service in the hotel was excellent (£3 to park overnight in the centre of Plymouth is great value) and we felt safe (from a Covid-19 perspective) at all times. The room was not the most modern but was large and comfortable (as was the bed). We had a meal in Steve's Brasserie, in the basement of the hotel. It was spaced out very well with the obvious removal of most decorations. However there was a nice atmosphere and it was reasonably busy. Neither of us felt particularly hungry when we arrived but the food was beautiful and we did manage three courses. The home made soup was delicious; the pork that my wife had just fell to pieces and was perfect and the pan fried sea bass that i chose was the best I have ever had. The service was also attentive but not intrusive. After the meal the evening before breakfast was a challenge but, again, service was excellent and the breakfast was great. Overall we enjoyed the visit and would be very happy to stay here again.
This hotel was clean and basic the hotel staff were very helpful .The hotel was well located for restaurants and Plymouth Central . The car park was £3 a night and on most of the evening as it was easy to get into but on a Saturday night it was difficult and some of the parking spaces were quite hard to get out of in the morning.
We stayed two nights over a weekend and clearly the hotel was very busy. Still, I appreciated that Covid 19 safety measure were in place with sanitiser pumps available in all public areas and at contact points like by the elevators, the front desk entrance of the restaurant and face mask had to be worn in public areas. The staff were lovely and the receptionist upon check-in was bubbly and friendly. We ate in Steve's Brasserie that evening and the waitress connected with us and provided tips on where to go and visit in Plymouth. The breakfast team were upbeat and friendly and willing to please happily filling up our water bottles. The food for dinner and breakfast was excellent and the portions were generous. Our room was a long walk from the elevator and the view out of the window was facing a wall; which was disappointing. Despite the window being open the room was hot, airless and we had an uncomfortable night. The room product and bathroom were well presented and in good repair. But the mattress was firm, the pillows were old and thin, and really in need of replacing. Otherwise we had an enjoyable stay and would recommend the hotel or return on some other occasion.
We stayed in a Superior Double room on the 5th floor for a 5 night break. We were very impressed by the Covid-19 protocols and the areas we visited during our stay were immaculately clean. This is a listed building and so there is no air conditioning in the rooms, however fans are available in each bedroom. Reception staff were extremely friendly, informative and very welcoming which was appreciated after our 9 hour drive. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff we encountered and it was clear that they were a very good team. Our room was well appointed with tea and coffee making facilities, and plenty of storage by way of double wardrobe, ample drawer space, iron and ironing board, tower fan, and a proper full size hairdryer! On our first night we returned from a meal to find a bottle of champagne on ice in our room which was a very thoughtful and welcome surprise. Our en-suite bathroom was huge ! The room was spotlessly clean upon our arrival and was kept that way throughout our stay. Credit to the cleaning staff during these difficult and demanding times. Hand sanitiser was available outside every public room and inside the bar and dining areas. Breakfast was served by a very efficient team who wore masks at all times and took food and beverage orders as soon as we sat down. Everything was delivered to our table in super quick time with courtesy and professionalism which was a surprise considering how much pressure these guys must be under. Again, nothing was too much trouble for them and because of such excellent service and personal touches, we will definitely return to this hotel. The cooked breakfast was piping hot when it reached our table and was beautifully cooked and presented. The location of the hotel was ideal for walking into the centre of Plymouth and parking was reasonably priced at £3.00 per night. This hotel is rated a 3-star but the service provided by the staff from the management, through to the reception staff, waiting staff, porters and cleaning teams far exceeded our expectations and are more akin to a 5 star establishment in our opinion. We appreciate the personal touch of a family run hotel and cannot wait to go back. Thank you to all the staff who are working under very difficult conditions.
I've stayed at the continental in Plymouth 3 times now and always find it welcoming, clean and relaxing. My recent stay for 2 nights with my bestie we were warmly welcomed and nothing was to much trouble, everywhere was throughly cleaned, face coverings were warn at all times. My only complaint is we find the pillows to hard which effected our sleep other wise I would of given 5 out of 5. It's a bit noisy if Ur window is open but we found a fan in the wardrobe so we could close it and still keep cool
we booked a short stay at the last minute to get away and found the new continental, we treated ourselves to a queen suite room which cost £200 more than a standard room and cannot say it was really worth it ,nothing like the image we saw when booking. the wifi was a joke having to register everyday then getting log out for nearly four hrs due to too many logins which they make you do ,in this day and age and at the price we paid unexceptable. good points about the hotel are the staff who were all polite and helpfull also the location is spot on for walks to the Hoe and barbican area.. would i recommend the hotel maybe but stick to the standard room not worth the extra cost as it no more furnished than a premier inn
Parking was not an issue, but I guess it could be when busier. Check in was easy, and the Covid-19 issues were well managed, good social distancing under control in all areas, plenty of sanitiser dispensers throughout the property. Only ate the breakfast, was delivered to table and of a very good standard, service was prompt. Location wise it is a bit of a walk away from the things to see and do in the area, but not a problem for us. The hotel is right on the border between grotty Plymouth and the nice bits (Hoe, harbour and Barbican areas). Recommended.
We stayed for 6 nights and had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. We requested a quiet room and we were situated on the 4th floor (only one more floor above us) at the end of the corridor and at the back of the hotel. The front of the hotel faces the road. The room had everything we needed but maybe a mini fridge and a safe would have been useful. The cleaners came in every day and did a very good job. Face masks have to be worn in the public areas and the lift. Hand sanitizer is in place in the reception area and by the lift. Obviously the hotel has had to adjust with COVID precautions but the breakfast staff did a brilliant job. It is completely table served but everything you would find on a buffet breakfast you could request. The full English came on hot plates and was cooked very well. Car parking is charged at £3 a day, if the hotel is full it can be a race to find a space. The nearest public car park is a fair trek. That said we did manage to get a space every day, all be it the manager moving his car one day for us to park.
The staff is very kind and friendly, the room and surroundings are clean. We also enjoyed the dinner in the restaurant. Very delicious. And as we stayed as family, we used swimming pool and we will stay there next time for sure.
We stayed for 7 nights at this hotel it was lovely staff were friendly the restaurant Steve's brassiere was lovely and the location was perfect for whichever end of Plymouth you want to visit. Will definitely go back a really lovely week.
Was a bit apprehensive as I normally book a chain hotel. However this was booked for me. The hotel staff were friendly and extremely helpful. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean . Had a pizza from the bistro onsite delivered to my room which left me wishing I'd ordered two. Breakfast was very good. I would definitely stay again.
Our 4 night stay could not have been better. The staff are all very welcoming and helpful. The family room we had was spotless and cleaned to a very high standard, the beds were very comfortable with plenty of space/storage for a family. Breakfast was very busy, the food was fantastic with plenty of selection. Covid-19 has not had a negative effect on the service received at this hotel, which I have witnessed at others. I observed a frequent cleaning regime around the hotel with staff and guests alike adhering to all Covid safe guidelines.
We were looking for a place to stay in the centre of Plymouth for a short 2 day break and found the New Continental through our Best Western “Rewards Loyalty Account”, which gave us a very reasonable rate for two nights (and we could have got three nights for the price of two if that had fitted in with our plans). We decided to book room only as the internet advises that breakfast arrangements in many hotels are quite variable because of social distancing precautions. We navigated to the hotel using SatNav and that took us on an easy to follow route around Plymouth City Centre and straight into the hotel car park, which was not busy on a Sunday afternoon. We were warmly welcomed and although we had arrived a little bit early the room was ready and we were able to go straight up after a very quick check-in process and explanation of the facilities. The swimming pool is still open, but has to be booked. We didn't use it but other guests said it was good. I think the exercise room is still closed. The hotel is well set up for social distancing with a one way system around reception, good signage and sanitiser dispensers throughout. Our room was a good size and had everything that we needed for a short stay. The TV was the standard Freeview service which was fine for us and the WiFi service was good. We did need to have our charger with us for phones and tablet as the power sockets are standard and don't have USB outlets, and there aren't many spare sockets. The bathroom had everything we needed and my only comment would be that some people might find that the side of the bath is a little bit high for stepping in and out when using the shower. The room was quite warm and the road outside a little bit too busy to keep the window open so the very quiet and effective fan provided was much appreciated. We used the bar one evening for a nightcap with friends who were staying at another hotel nearby. They had to leave their contact details for Track and Trace, but that was dealt with very quickly. The bar area is more functional than cosy, but it is comfortable and three coffees and a couple of brandies were very reasonable priced. Breakfast is table service and that is quite hard work for the staff compared to buffet style, but they manage it very well. There is the option of Continental or Full English and both are fairly priced. The Continental at £5 has good variety with cereals, yoghurt, fruit, croissants, cheese and ham, toast, jam, marmalade and honey, and of course fruit juice and tea or coffee to drink. The Full English, at £10, has most of the above, plus a reasonably sized plate of hot food cooked to order (and very quickly) from a choice of bacon, sausage, eggs, black pudding, tomato, baked beans, mushroom and hash browns. Overall the hotel is clean, comfortable and well managed with good facilities and service. Above all it is reasonably priced and is very well positioned in walking distance of the city centre, Hoe Park and the restaurants, bars and cafes on the Barbican. It is a short, inexpensive, local ferry trip or taxi ride to other attractions such as the highly recommended Royal William Yard. A very good option for a visit to Plymouth.
My wife and I stayed at this Hotel on Friday 31st and could not believe the welcome we received. Arrived a few minutes early and was advised return in half an hour. No problem with this and the young man was quite polite. Returned as advised and one woman in reception greeted us, what is your name, sit over there because your room in not ready. Not once were there any warm welcoming words, not even a hello sir or madam. Eventually, a shout across the room, your room is ready and we need payment. Arrived in the room and it appeared quite ok, contacted reception and unfortunately the same woman answered the phone. I asked if we could extend by an extra day and she said that she would check availability. After a few minutes phone rang and I was advised, yes you can have a room at an increase of around £27. When I enquired why the price had increased and was told abruptly that its demand and that was the price. Obviously, after zi had time to think I rejected the offer. Before I go, I just wanted to add that the remaining staff were ok. Added to this, it turns out the soundproofing was not existant between rooms, the door to the wash room would not close. In summary, I would suggest a very cheap renovation and reception staff need some guidance in how to greet guests a total disgrace. All they really need is John Cleese To make things complete.
Stayed here for two nights while walking some of the SWCP. It was one of the better places I have styled recently. Nice clean room and staff all very welcoming. And the location is good for everything. No negatives for me here.
We booked to stay at the NC because wife wanted a trip down memory lane to Plymouth. It had been a while since she stayed there, before it became a Best Western. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. For 80 quid for the night, the Best Westerness really did shine through, though. Everything was cheap. Bathropm fittings, light fittings, kettle, basic plastic bin from IKEA. As we have no problem with Supernatural style cheap, crappy motel rooms, it didn't bother us. But I'd not want to pay any more than £80 a night. One bonus though.... They did supply a tower fan, which was good because the room was so hot. Would we stay again? Yes, probably. Don't know if other rooms are nicer, but don't expect out and out luxury. Do expect a nice enough place to bed down for a fee nights, and excellent, friendly service from the hotel staff.
very disappointed with room and bed quality. I paid £90 for 1 night. My back start hurting in the morning after sleeping on bed, poor quality duvet and mattress. location of the hotel is not bad, just 5-10mins walks to center area.
Good, no real issues, helpful staff and close to the center and ports. If I had a complaint the bacon on the breakfast was over cooked and burnt, Why don't hotels ask how you like your breakfast cooked it would save throwing good food away.
Myself and my partner booked a two night stay here with the intention of attending an event at The Pavilions. Arrived late afternoon and checked in with ease - just be sure to enter your car registration for free parking. Booked a standard double room and WOW it was beautiful, spotlessly clean and beautifully presented - I could find no fault whatsoever and trust me I tried..... On arrival the plight of the Covid19 pandemic was just evolving with the news that all pubs, clubs, theatres etc were to close meaning the event we were to attend was cancelled so we made the gest of our stay, using the gym and pool on the ground floor. Gym suited my training needs albeit a little cramped between equipment and the pool even though small was clean, warm and quiet. Changing rooms clean and Club Continental staff were polite, professional and approachable. Really can not fault the stay, well priced, good location, fab accommodation, great room service, polite attentive professional staff and big thanks to Ben at the Bar - an asset to the team We will be booking again when the postponed event occurs later in the year Thank you Team Continental
Because this terrible virus that we're all incurring I was not able to attend this hotel after several conversations on the phone they gave me a full refund truly wonderful people with excellent service I was not expecting that would recommend using this hotel just for sophier and the customer service staff excellent
My wife and I stayed overnight having attended a meeting in Plymouth. The staff were very welcoming. We asked for a room change as my wife prefers a room On a lower floor. This took place with no fuss and all was done while we were out. The room was clean and the overall facilities were fine. We decided to eat in the Brasserie which was very good although the type of flooring made it easy to hear conversation on nearby tables. Service was very attentive and efficient. Both our meals were excellent. Breakfast was fine with a selection of fruit and cereal. There was a choice of continental or cooked breakfast with a vegetarian and vegan alternative. This was served at the table. Generally the stay was very good and we would certainly stay again if the opportunity arose.
stayed for two nights mid week the staff were great from the moment you walk in the front door they are so happy and welcoming they could not do more for you , we arrived late afternoon and booked our evening meal in Steves Restraunt down stair in hotel we had lamb on the first night and wow if i could i would have taken a bowl home with me and the rooms were very clean and well looked after all staff were the best I have ever meet in the UK and we will be going back some time this year again there is even a GYM and Pool down stairs for hotel guests to use
We stay here whenever we visit the Plymouth Pavilions as it's convenient, clean and comfortable. The brasserie is great for pre show meals and the bar is good for aftershow drinks. It's also well situated for visiting the City of Plymouth's many attractions.
We stayed for one night as we were going to the Pavilions. Absolutely perfect location. The receptionist staff were very pleasant and the room was more than adequate and had everything you needed. Car parking is limited but an added bonus and cheap. Steve's Brasserie which is within the hotel was excellent for a pre show meal. We would not hesitate to stay again.
Staff were very helpful, even though it was very last minute. The breakfast the next morning was nice, the fry up came out quickly, very small glasses for juices though. The room was beautiful, a comfortable bed and very clean kitchen.
Visited Plymouth for the first time for a double reason one to follow our local football team but also to see family who moved here several years ago. So after a six and a half hour drive it was a relief to find our hotel so easily, parking was good and great value at £3 for 24hrs. The hotel was clean and tidy in the outside and this continued through to reception and the rooms. Check in was quick and friendly and the staff informative on local places amenities etc. The room was spacious, and clean with a good sized bathroom and shower. We had a drink in the bar whilst our family came to meet us and the choices were good and priced normally for a hotel. We didn't really spend a lot of time in the hotel and had breakfast out with the family. Despite being on a main road the hotel was quite and we had a good nights sleep, checking out was again quick , friendly and easy. We will definitely be back and next time will spread out our trip to maybe three nights to get a better look at what Plymouth has to offer. It looks a vibrant city with lots to see and do which would be better visited on a warm summers day not a cold wet Tuesday
Excellently located hotel with friendly and efficient staff. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful, the room was spacious and well equiped, and the 24 hour parking (close to city centre and sea front) was a bonus.
When we arrived at the hotel, the reception area just smelt like chlorine. We checked into our room and we were very disappointed, the rooms are very different to the photos which are taken online which is very misleading. Stains and scuffs on the wall and carpet. The decor is outdated and not overly homely. The window was dirty and you couldn't see out of it because of the condensation inside it. We checked in and instantly left and checked into the Crowne which is located just down the road. The only good point I have to make is 24 hour parking for £3 is brilliant.
A warm welcome ( thanks Ellen ) spotlessly clean room and bathroom, hearty breakfast ( thanks James ) made for a pleasant stay. Parking very reasonable but do remember to pop your number on the keypad at reception We shall return
We booked a 1 night stay to break up our long journey down to Cornwall. The hotel is in a great location, it is just a few minutes walk to the Hoe, the high street and nightlife. Parking was very reasonable, just £3 for 24 hours, just make sure to enter your car registration at the iPad in reception as we were not prompted to do so by the reception staff (we've been stung by ‘ParkingEye' before). We booked a standard room and our first impressions of the room were good. However, upon closer inspection the bedroom furniture was tired, worn and dated with some questionable stains on the carpet and curtains. The bathroom however looked recently fitted and was spotlessly clean, the bed linen and towels also white and fresh. Sadly we had a very poor nights sleep, we found the mattress and pillows very hard. The old wooden sash windows didn't not keep much noise out and being situated on a busy road, opposite a Wetherspoons it was also noisy late into the night. Regular gym-goers at home we deliberately booked a hotel with a ‘fitness centre'. We ended up spending a total of 10 minutes in the gym. The equipment is very old and tired with several pieces of equipment requiring maintenance - nothing like the pictures online. The swimming pool was equally as disappointing, it was much smaller than the online pictures, the water murky and too warm. Back to the windows, we feel it is worth mentioning the potentially dangerous situation in the bathroom. The only way to get any air into the room was to open the window upwards meaning that the opening was at floor level (see image).
We had a lovely room on the 5th floor. No noise disturbance. Clean and well presented room with good facilities. Good swim and gym facilities. Breakfast was great, staff were welcoming and looked after us well. Great central location. Would look here first if I ever need an overnight stay in Plymouth again.
sat night stayed on 3rd floor no noise from function room good location, breakfast good, staff very helpful variety of gym equipment only negative pool not for swimming as very small not like photo image
We stayed here so we could go and watch Surrey scorchers play basketball at the Pavilion, we managed to park with no problem reception staff very friendly and helpful, our room was spotlessly clean and quite spacious ,the only thing was the ceiling was low in places but did not cause a problem we had a couple of drinks in the bar, lovely area to relax in ,breakfast was included with our stay ,we were greeted by a lovely member of staff called Marie who took our order as the food is cooked from fresh ,with a good selection to suit most people's tastes.we had a lovely stay and would highly recommend this hotel .
I came here is 2018 to photograph the UPSU Society and Activity Awards. The staff were friendly and the venue was great. I would like to come here again. I came here again in December 2019 for a christmas meal with my work colleagues.
Stayed here before, different room each time. Rooms have always been clean, beds comfortable. Drafty this time in the bathroom with the wooden sash windows, but it is winter. Room cold on arrival, but once radiator was turned on it warmed up after a spell.
Looking for an amazing hotel? Look no further you will not be disappointed!!! Great facilities, excellent food, good beer, fantastic location close to the centre I highly recommend this hotel, go for it you will not be disappointed.
We stayed for one night as its very close to the Pavilions in Plymouth so very handy! the room was a little dated but quite large and very clean, comfy beds! traffic noise quite bad but that didn't really bother us! the bathroom fan was very loud and seemed to stay on for quite a while! Staff very friendly! would stay again if going to the Pavilions for the convenience
we stayed overnight before going to the theatre the hotel is very convenient for both the Theatre Royal and Plymouth Pavilions also the city centre and the sea front. The reception staff were welcoming and booked us in quickly directed us to our room and explained the facilities. Our room was very pleasant bathroom sparkling clean the bed very comfortable. We ate in the Bistro a pre theatre dinner it was very good, service was excellent.Breakfast was hot and freshly cooked service again excellent altogether we highly recommend this hotel.
Very pleasant and comfortable hotel, ideal location for all that Plymouth has to offer. Close to the town centre and just a short walk to the Barbican which has plenty of restaurants to choose from. The New Continental is always my first choice when I am working in Plymouth.
A spur of the moment decision to drive down to Plymouth and booked the New Continental online for a one night stay. Welcomed at reception by smiling staff and booked in quickly and efficiently. Our room, on the second floor (223) was large and had plenty of hanging space for our clothes. The room was spotless as was the bathroom. With the hotel being in the centre of things, right next to Plymouth Pavillions, our afternoon was spent walking around Drakes circus pedestrian precinct. When we returned to the hotel we booked a table at Steve's Brasserie and relaxed for an hour. After we had eaten we went to the bar before retiring. We slept well and enjoyed our breakfast. All the staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble, thank you all.
My family and I have spend the last 2 years (2018 and 2019) at this hotel for our Christmas Day lunch and we thoroughly enjoyed it so I'd like to thank you for another enjoyable experience on Christmas Day. The staff were fantastic and nothing was too much trouble .. we had a 3 course lunch and it was a lovely atmosphere throughout the afternoon. There was a singer to entertain everyone and all the children including my 2 Grandaughters loved having a little dance. They were even allowed to kidnap the microphone and sing a Christmas song each which they loved. There was a visit from Santa who gave all the children a present each and if anyone is considering eating out on Christmas Day, I'd absolutely recommend the new continental. Thank you so much to all the staff and happy new year to you all. Susan Harris and the Sharpe Family.
I went away with a few friends to this hotel. I'm from the country so I like quiet. The room we were in, overlooked Weatherspoon's. We stayed from Thursday to Sunday. So it was quite loud as you would expect and facing a busy road. Although I went into my other friend's rooms that was facing the backside of the hotel and seem very quiet. The right person would like it. The staff were lovely, always smiling and we always had good chat with the night porter and other staff each evening as we came down for a few drinks at the bar. Even the small things like standing up from behind the counter giving equal level eye contact. The room was clean and was nicely decorated it felt warm. The only faults was a broken toilet seat as well as a kettle that would keep boiling and not turn off. On our last night, I decided to have a 3 course meal for £21. In the restaurant "Steve's Brasserie" This is sadly one of the worst meals I've eaten. The starter I had was smoked chicken with a salad. The chicken was very dry and need something like pesto to help. The salad had no dressing and was just a challenge to eat. For the main course I had belly pork, the belly pork itself was very tender and cut like butter. Sadly though the tenderstem broccoli and cabbage was far from being cooked al dente. Plated up along with some nice roast potatoes. This dish cost £15 if you were to buy it on its own. Finally came dessert. White chocolate mousse with poached fig & ice cream. The white chocolate was too heavy and sickly in the proportion of how much was served in a ramekin. (Added Photos of the Food) The meal was overall overly expensive for what was plated and in the quality. Just because it looks smartly presented with high prices doesn't mean it was great. Plus we were on one table of two others. So they were very quiet. Décor though was welcoming. the waiter was kind and welcomed us in. So I do recommend staying here if you are okay with noise. Otherwise, ask if you can have a quiet room. But don't get food overly priced
We have stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions, but this stay was very poor. We booked sometime ago but were given an attic room which was very basic and small and draughty. We were a family party of eight and the others in our booking had to move rooms due to the noise. Why use the room over a party being held beneath when there are plenty of other rooms available?
We use this regularly hotel when we drop our daughter back to Uni in Plymouth, we have tried both the Deluxe and Standard rooms and they are equally good. Location is very central and they have onsite parking which is very good value. We far prefer this family run type of Hotel to the characterless chains, the staff seem to really care and will go out of their way for you. The breakfast is also 1st class , as we normally stay on a Sunday night we haven't had the chance to try Steve's Brasserie but the menu looks very good. Keep up the good work !
We booked this hotel for its location, which was OK, but the room and bathroom had bad smell of drains and chemicals. We complained straight away and it was looked at while we were out but it was never quite OK. The hotel sadly looks like it could do with some investment and refurbishment.
Been before was lovely. However we went last weekend & the room was dirty, wall paper was peeling off the ceiling. urine was left in the toilet and when running the tap black bits were falling out. Their was dirt under the bed, the bath panel was all cracked and on entering the room it was freezing. we did tell them but had no follow up call or email to apologise.
Had been to this venue many times in the past and always had excellent food. We decided to try this for our Christmas lunch with the family. It was £80 per adult and £38 for a 3 three year old. However the food was very poor, veg and pigs in blankets hardly cooked. The entertainment would be okay if you are in your 90's. My Grandson had a present from Father Christmas, which was supposed to be playdo, unfortunately it was so old, it was dry and crumbly. Never again.
Stayed here for 1 night and that was enough - booked this hotel specifically as they had a car park but when I got there no spaces for me - I realise its first come basis but I booked this hotel because it had a car park. The venue next door which is a public car park had a gig on and this was also full inc people parking on the grass. Had difficulty finding a carpark near the hotel that would either allow me to stay there overnight, or that I felt safe to leave me car in. Found one eventually 10 mins walk away - it was on a rough bit of land. Plymouth does seem to have a shortage of parking. The hotel was Ok, room a bit dated and the bathroom was a kit job - functional but not very appealing. The room was hot and when I opened the window there was an industrial extractor fan outside which ran all night. Also I could hear the disco and the singing until gone midnight then for the next few hours drunken people shouting, singing and swearing while going back to their rooms along the corridor outside my room. I had an early start the next morning so was not best pleased by the lack of sleep. Breakfast was good and was served rather than self-service. Full range of cereals, juices, cooked etc. Staff friendly and efficient. Spoke to the reception about the noise when I checked out and she said she would tell the manager - bit late for that really. Not sure if the hotel is like this every weekend but certainly not somewhere I will be staying again. Good location for down town Plymouth
We went as a group of 34 people and had four tables in the ballroom. I believe there were 15 tables in total with the room being shared with other groups. The three course meal was excellent as was the service. There was at least one 'head' person who oversaw the meals being brought out and advised servers where to go. This worked really well. There were also individual white cards stating what dishes the person was having. I also saw a red card clearly 'warning' that the person had a nut allergy for the servers to see. The layout of the tables and room for the disco was first rate - as was the disco. There was a bar and the service was very good. Cost £38.00 I would definitely recommend this venue for a Christmas Dinner and Dance.
Enjoyed lovely stay and staff only criticism is pay for parking should be free as of staying there yes only £3 but principles are involved as this is the 7th year of going there free before so why pay niw
We arrived and booked into the hotel and were given a room key of which we went to, unbeknown to us that when I opened the door there was already a couple in the room. I appolised to the couple and went straight back down to reception to explain, they were unaware the room was occupied and said that they had already checked out in the morning after waiting 15mins I received a key for a different room. No apology had been truly given for the pure embarrassment caused to ourselves and the couple already in the room. They simply offered a "complimentary drink" that wasn't needed no explanation was made or anything discussed. No comment fron the manager nor were we made aware of anyone actually being in the room prior. Wouldn't go back in a hurry.
We enjoyed staying at this hotel. We went to the pavillions awesome location. Also everything you need is at hand, restaurants, bars, shopping and the hoe and barbican are within walking distance. The freshly cooked breakfast is wholesome and very hearty.Just a thought a few bananas and apples would be ideal in the mornings.Steves brasserie downstairs the food exceeded my expectations. The staff all seem to have a great sense of humour and wit. The only issue I had was I knew it was party nights it would be a little noisy I had asked for higher floor and booked this well in advance.Hence the sleeping was not possible until after the disco had finished. Overall the experience was very enjoyable, yes I would return. I must mention the receptionist,Sophie,Katie and sadly I didnt the name of the third of the trio, full of ideas,a real human caring way.thank you
What a fabulous party the team at The New Continental hotel put on for us. Our room was very comfortable, clean and warm. The bed was sooooo comfy and there is a tv, nice table and desk and comfy tub chairs to sit at. The reception staff, in fact all the staff who served or assisted me were very friendly, polite and helpful. The room where we had our Christmas party was set up lovely, the food was fabulous and exceeded my expectations, the plate my hot starter and main were served on were hot, (which is a good sign). I really enjoyed the DJ set up and it was a good sized dance floor. The bar staff were very efficient and friendly and they were so much fun. It was fun to watch them having fun with the guests and joining in the party and dancing by the bar when they weren't serving. The breakfast the next day again, was fabulous. Really well set up, plenty to choose from and really tasty. The plate my fry up came on was hot and the waiting staff very attentive and polite. All credit to all the staff at The New Continental for being fabulous and fun and I had the best night out I've ever had.
Really impressed. We were going to a show at the Pavilions, so I looked for somewhere close. This hotel is right next door. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Breakfast was great. Everywhere was clean and there was a feeling that it had perhaps just been refurbished. Good value. We will certainly book again for a stay in the heart of Plymouth.
Paid £10 to use the swimming pool; thought as it's in a hotel, it would be lovely and clean. It was awful, dirty, steam room out of order; female changing room not in good order (with some areas coned which made it feel like a building site), broken locker; not suitable for a baby as nowhere to even change/put baby down. Overall very disappointed. Not welcoming nor cosy.
Stayed here for 3 nights for a group break. We had a standard double room that was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very good, after selecting our cereals from the buffet we ordered the rest of our meal and it was served to us at the table. It was such a refreshing change to have freshly cooked food that hadn't been sitting on a hot counter for goodness knows how long! For our evening meal we had a nice menu and all the food was delicious. The hotel is conveniently placed for seeing the sights of Plymouth. A ten minute walk took us up onto the Hoe and from there we walked to the Barbican area, a lovely part of Plymouth. Along the cobbled streets you will find a good selection of cafes, bars and restaurants, and many independent shops to browse. Not to be missed is a visit to Plymouth Gin.
The photos are obviously quite old as everything is a little tired and disappointing. The receptionist was very enthusiastic but it would have been useful to have information regarding breakfast, spa facilities checkout etc. AThe building was very basic and in need a good refurb, the spa was very scruffy and changing rooms smelled of urine, the steam room was out of order and pool full of kids. The evening meal was quite good but again not as good as the pictures. Breakfast was OK but we were chastised by the sour faced waitress as we'd not booked breakfast and had to pay immediately. Coffee was foul, but I was allowed tea instead. We won't rush back.......
Just in Plymouth for one night, for a family trip away. The room was a good size, comfy bed, nice to have a bath. Had a meal in Steve's Brasserie the night we were there; the food was gorgeous, though the portions were very small for the price. Callum, our server, was an absolute delight; very welcoming and attentive. In the morning we had the full english breakfast, which was mediocre at best, and was not worth the extortionate price. Would come back again, but won't be having breakfast.
Tidy room, small but comfortable bed. Evening meal 6 out of 10, small portion and tasteless. Good sleep but door has big gap so let corridor light in all night. Shower, hot but no pressure, truly awful 1 out of 10. Full english breakfast ok.
Stayed here while attending an event at Plymouth Pavilions which is right next door while only being a 10 minute walk to the main shopping centre. The hotel is clean, staff were great, rooms large and met all the requirements, breakfast was included and was very good. Plenty of parking at a small charge of £3 per night. Perfect for anybody needing a city centre hotel especially attending an event at the Plymouth Pavilions. Based in this visit no hesitation recommending, and would 100% stay here again.
We stayed for one night in a family room with a double and 2 single beds. It's only a short walk to Plymouth Hoe, the Theatre Royal and shops. The hotel has lots of character and charm. Our room and all the areas of the hotel we visited were very clean. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was really good with plenty of choice.
Visited this hotel for my wife's birthday at the end of October. Excellent location, with parking. Spacious, clean room, ultra large comfortable bed. Friendly, helpful staff. It is not ultra modern but for us that is an advantage, comfortable, plenty of storage, relaxing. Good breakfast, plenty of choice and excellent service.
We stayed here for two nights in October and it was great. The room was spacious and clean, nice and quiet for sleeping at night too. The breakfast was delicious and all the staff on reception were incredibly helpful and cheerful on arrival/check-out. It's so nice to see smiling faces and happy staff. We went to a show at Plymouth Pavillions which is just next door, couldn't get a better location than that. Also only a short walk to town/The Barbican. Ideal for us. I really liked the character of this hotel, it's got quite an interesting history if you look into it.
Nice hotel, friendly staff , decor a little tired and old fashioned .Centrally located which is great for walking to everything but our room was a bit noisey at night from the street below , which we are told is worse at the weekend room 225. Wooden sash window, so noise and cold coming in but the heating kept the room very warm. Its probably a listed building but perhaps internal secondary glazing would help both the noise and heat issue . WiFi a bit tricky ,not easy to get in, have to register through hotmail and then keep 're registering each time you ,you your device.
The New Continental has everything you could want. Great central location, polite and efficient staff, lots of facilities and large, clean, comfortable rooms. On site car parking is easy to access and very reasonably priced (£3 a day) Highly recommend this great hotel.
We arrived in the wee small hours and the guy at reception was fantastic and very helpful. Paid £3 to park our car in their car park which was reasonable enough. Rooms were massive and spotless. Beds were so comfortable and slept really well. We paid £10 for a full English breakfast which was good and the staff were lovely. We would have actually liked to have stayed longer and taken full advantage of this hotels amenities. The only negative was on the Friday evening when we went to eat in the hotel restaurant and were told we needed to pre-book as there were eight of us. We managed to find a restaurant though that took us without booking and we'd an amazing night celebrating our son's Passing Out with the Royal Navy at The Omelette & Steak in Plymouth.
A family run independent hotel in the centre of Plymouth. It is 12 mins walk to the Guildhall or the Plymouth Hoe. There is parking adjacent, for which you are charged £3 per day. Staff are very helpful and polite. The breakfast has a cereal and fruit buffet, then orders taken for any combination upto the full cooked breakfast. The restaurant has a decent menu for the evening meal; a variety of smaller healthier dishes would have been appreciated. Perhaps more seafood, given its proximity to the harbour. Staff are very helpful and friendly. The rooms are clean and comfortable.
Stayed with my partner on Saturday 12th October 2019. Think the room No# was 208. Second floor directly under the glass bottle recycling bin. 7:30am Sunday is not a time I would suggest to start emptying the bottle skips from a busy function the evening before. Individually smashing each one which lasted for over half an hour. More of a feather duster time of the day I would say, wouldn't you agree?!?
This hotel pulled out all the stops to help us have our final four night, very successful, reunion. With 60+ now aged men and women veterans who had served in Malta it is amazing that the Association Committee only had one complaint, in that the hotel did not have any draft beer. There was not a single complaint regarding Room, Beds, Cleanliness, Service or Food. Breakfast was freshely cooked to order. Dinner gave us three choices for every course. Our Gala Dinner was well organized with sufficient staff to ensure that no table was kept waiting. The hotel concept of one member of staff taking your order with another member of staff about two steps behind with a trayful of cutlery to ensure that you had the correct cutlery for what you had ordered was somewhat unique in its simplicitiy and effectiveness. Congratulations New Continental - you did us proud.
Stayed at this hotel as the location is perfect for a visit to the Plymouth Pavilions. The staff are extremely friendly and the hotel is beautiful. We have stayed here several times for the same reason and have always been impressed. We have been in a different room each time but we have always found them to be nicely decorated, clean, comfortable and well equipped. We will certainly be back
So. I went to the New Continental Hotel in Plymouth for a formal occasion. A ball in aid of the Stroke Association. The premises are amazing. Staff were all very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The food was just wonderful and all freshly cooked. Dietry requirements all taken into consideration . Well done you guys I was very impressed. The food was piping hot and well presented. A great night was,had by all
