"Great Hotel"
I had the pleasure of staying at this lovely hotel recently while on business in Suffolk. All the staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. However, the icing on the cake is the food, fantastic value and excellently prepared and really tasty, thanks to everyone at The Claydon.

Perfect, Thank you for reviewing BW Claydon Hotel, the team and I are delighted with your response and hopefully we look forward to accommodating you again. Yours sincerely Frankie Manners Operations Manager
"Great staff, Great Place, Great stay"
The very best of stays with a warm welcome and caring staff. Reception staff very professional, greeting guests with a smile and pleasant demeanor, the Chef was accommodating regarding meal requests. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a pleasant stay.

"Dated & mediocre"
The room was very dated, the AC antiquated, inefficient and noisy and no hairdryer in the room - colleagues reported the same issue. You had to ask for one at Reception. If theft is such an issue, why not install fixed hairdryers? The breakfast was very poor in terms of choice and quality. Stuck to toast on the second morning and skipped it altogether on the third day. The continental "option" consisted of cheap, packaged muffins etc. Consistently pleasant and helpful staff - a redeeming feature.

"One night treat"
We have never stayed in a Best Western hotel before and were pleasantly surprised at how good it was. A reasonable price with air conditioning which was a bonus, Super friendly staff that were caring, helpful, polite and professional, going above and beyond our expectations. Clean and comfortable room with everything that was needed. Will definitely consider a Best Westeern hotel in the future. Huge thanks.

"Good stay in Clayton Suffolk"
The staff here could not have been more helpful. I was a tad grumpy at breakfast on the first day because it was ending at 10 but certain items were unavailable at 9.30. That's always something that irritates me - you should be able to come down any time before the end time and get the breakfast you want. They rushed around to make it work and the second day was perfect! The meal on day one was surprisingly good (I don't know why but I didn't expect much - but it was more than adequate. Lovely staff all round (especially Marina !)
Frankie Manners, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review

"Very Quiet Location"
Placed in a very convenient location and was surprisingly quiet. Use the Hungry Horse opposite, as much better range of breakfasts and food for a lot less money. Hotel does not provide meals on Sunday

Thank you so much for forwarding your review, we value your feedback and we hope we could be of service to you again in the future Yours sincerely, Frankie Manners, Operations Manager
"Lovely welcome on arrival from Marina"
I arrived late afternoon. Not easy to find even with Satnav. Better signage would help. Car park not great but did manage to park up. On arrival I was met at reception by Marina. What a lovely lady! Helpful, friendly and very welcoming. Room is good. Basic but everything you need. Bed was very comfy and pillows soon had me drifting off. Used for a business trip and would stay again.

"The event exceeded expectations!"
We had a wonderful Birthday Party on 16th July. The hotel team were so helpful, friendly and attentive at all times. Our whole stay - Friday to Sunday - was a really great experience, and we felt at home. Our party meal was lovely, so tasty and well presented. When organising a big party there is so much to do and expectations are high! Frankie your team did us proud, and went the extra mile. The organisation under the watchful eye of Marina was super, and the chef / catering team were magnificent.

This hotel was amazing we had our daughter's wedding reception here and the food and presentation was at a high standard. The staff also was so helpful. The hotel manager communicated thought out the booking and let us decorate the function room the night before and also gave a helping hand. I can not thank the hotel enough for all there help.

"Reasonable hotel, could do better"
First impressions were not good - I had to ask for a hairdryer and a rubberised bath mat and for the shower to be made to work. Breakfast was good but service was very slow and the coffee weak. The air conditioning was a plus but the unit made an annoying buzz every few minutes after it had been turned off. Overall it was reasonable value for money.
Claydon Ipswich, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review

"Excellent food, pleasant stay all-round"
Was on a 2-night business trip. Hotel was very easy to find, right off the motorway, decent parking, though getting out in morning traffic was tricky. Staff were very pleasant and the evening meals were excellent. Room door was light, so a bit of noise travelling through, but slept soundly. Will certainly stay again.
Frankie Manners, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review

"Pleasant Stay with Excellent Christmas Lunch"
The room was clean and warm and had everything I needed. Clean white towels in the bathroom with more in the wardrobe. Heating/air con was effective but I did need to read the instruction and it does take it a minute or two to do what you programme. Plenty of tea and coffee was provided. Anything you might need that's not in the room is available at reception, ie hairdryer, iron etc. Breakfast had plenty of choice with both continental and cooked on offer. Continental included cereal, toast, preserves, croissants, muffins, cheese and meat, yogurt, fresh fruit and juices. Cooked options included sausage, bacon, eggs, mushrooms, beans and more. Service was quick but I didn't feel rushed. Christmas lunch was excellent. The table was beautifully decorated and food was delicious and plentiful. Conveniently situated near the local shop, post office, pub and bus stop.

"My visit to Claydon "
Nothing was too much trouble. Claydon small town. But every thing on tap. Worth a look. Post office pharmacy. Good pub's. Didn't know much about the place but apparently I am moving here. Bring it on. Can't wait. Nice friendly people. Was actually helped this morning by a lady with a pram to cross the road.

"Average hotel, disappointing car park charge"
Ok hotel, clean but basic. Very disappointed to have to pay £10 for parking. Have stayed at other best Weston in the area and never had to pay for car parking on top of room charge. Small, muddy car park, not work £10!
Frankie Manners, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Clare, Thank you for your comments relating to our car park, action has already been taken. Customer feedback is taken extremely serious by us and used to make improvements for customers in the future, however thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We are sorry we have had to pass on additional charges to the customer, direct bookings are an option in the future, we do not comment on other hotel chains in the area, thank you for your time. Your sincerely Frankie Frankie Manners General Manager
"great food"

"Hotel stay"
Good stay with family, clean, good staff service. Only thing that would be nice is if you serviced cooked breakfast, instead we ate at the pub across the road, goodd value breakfast full English £4.99.
"Worst Shower"
Stayed here as first Best Western was shocking, this one started off better, however room was small two single beds pushed together no room around no chair just a stool not good for working Food was Ala carte only. the best part was the shower or lack of it, smallest bathroom I have seen including on boats and no shower - had to use the sink - Stay away.
"Well done Alex "
Wow the most amazing staff !!! Alex is a shining star, a credit to the best Weston group. I would advise the chain to use him to train the rest of the staff across the country. We were so impressed with the hotel. Looking forward to returning. Keep up the good work guys.
"Clayton Hotel BW"
What a find! Lovely hotel, friendly staff and good food. Will certainly return in the future for a longer stay as there is plenty to do in the area and the village has great facilities. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff
"Dan Howell tour "We're All Doomed" Accommodation for one night."
After being let down for a more situated accommodation to Regent Theatre were my daughter had to go. This hotel was amazing. Staff were understanding about the short notice booking. Which was only 24hrs prior to coming. Room is massive. We had the superior queen room. Bathroom is stunning. But most of all it was a much needed comfy night as we travelled from cornwall. Staff made us feel very welcome. I would certainly visit again in the future.
Frankie Manners, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review

"Suffolk stayover"
1 night stayover on business....lovely room, great Evening food in the restaurant, friendly staff. A little odd breakfast offering, with hot sausages and bacon available, but no hot eggs option. Other than that, great...and I would definitely stay again if in the area.
Frankie Manners, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review

"Worst Hotel we have ever stayed in"
Booked last minute on our way home from Gorleston we had stayed a few nights previous at a Best Western in Norwich which we thoroughly enjoyed. This one cost more but was awful the room should not be classed as a double it should be a single it is so small. There were cobwebs everywhere in the room. The breakfast was really a continental which I hadn't realised as I would not have paid the extra £ 20 for. They brought you 2 sausages & 2 bits of bacon if requested. It really is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in!
Frankie Manners, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Tracy Webb, Thank you for posting your review. Following your complaint, I am sorry you're experience with us did not meet with all your expectations on this occasion; due to the fact you booked last minute this was the only room of this type we had available. We feel your complaint does not warrant a refund of any type as the price quoted for the room, a Double Twin Standard was the price you accepted, along with the type of breakfast, (Continental with Hot Options to order) which was explained on check-in and is also on Booking.com website. Following your email we conducted a room walked with the house keeper and could find no evidence of spiders, cobwebs or infested air conditioning unit, however we would be grateful if you could back your complaint by any pictures you may have taken. I look forward to hearing from you in due course. Yours sincerely Frankie Manners - Operations Manager
"A friendly welcome at a stressful time."
Due to a mix up with a booking at a different hotel we were left without accommodation for five of us at 10pm. Luckily we were shoehorned into two rooms by the cheerful and helpful Marina. Good job the bar was also open. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and also air conditioned… a real bonus in the hot weather.
Frankie Manners, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review
Hi Richard, Thank you for your comments and for taking the time to review our hotel. "This small hotel is one of Suffolk's hidden gems"
With just 36 rooms the staff in this hotel have time to get to know their guests. For the world-weary traveller, the friendly atmosphere here is a real plus. The rooms are small, but the restaurant serves exquisite food and staff are attentive yet discreet. Highly recommended!!

"Wedding celebration"
We have just come home from our wedding reception at this hotel. From the first contact with them until we waved goodbye this has been a 5 star experience - us two and 46 of our nearest and dearest were treated like royalty. The staff were without exception utterly superb, nothing was too much trouble. The suite, the room, the food THE FOOD was utterly exquisite! Without exception the comments were all that it was the best they had ever had at a wedding. It takes dedication to produce such outstanding service and we cannot recommend this hotel and the staff highly enough. Frankie, Marina, Donna, you made our day perfect! With our thanks Paul and Jules

"This delightful hotel has to be one of Suffolk's best kept secrets!"
This small hotel (36 rooms) is a real gem. Located in a small village just 8 miles from Ipswich it is a haven of tranquility and well worth the detour. The great strength of the hotel is its staff. Led by manager Frank, nothing it seems, is too much trouble for this small, committed team. The rooms are immaculate - a real tribute to the friendly housekeepers - whilst the reception staff (including a very special night porter!!) find time to chat with the solo traveller. A problem with the loo in my room was rectified by sourcing and installing a spare part on a Sunday afternoon (!): outstanding service in my book. As for the small restaurant, chef Luke and the discrete but friendly waiting staff provide a dinner experience that is up there with the very best. The innovative menu is changed daily to make the best use of fresh, locally-sourced produce, and broadly based on fine French cuisine. It is quite delightful, as is the small but well-chosen wine menu. Slightly more relaxed food, including a fair sprinkling of good "comfort food" is available at the bar. I had never heard of this hotel before last weekend, but having discovered it I shan't hesitate to return or to recommend it to others.
Frankie Manners, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Mrs Mackenzie, Thank you so much for taking the time to review Best Western Claydon hotel, we are delighted with your review, five stars thank you, we are so proud of all our hard working staff, I hope you were not too disappointed with the experience you had to endure during your first nights stay, Phil the duty night manager had his hands full that evening. As also mentioned the issue with the damaged loo the following day was quickly rectified by the quick thinking deputy manager ( Sarah Lewis ) who managed to source and have a spare part installed on a Sunday afternoon. After our conversation the following day, I am delighted the issues you had to endure with in the first 24hrs of your stay did not have a negative effect on your experience with Best Western Claydon Hotel, many thanks. Kind Regards Frankie Manners - Operations Manager

My husband and I are currently staying at the hotel due to our house was gutted by a fire. The staff have been amazing. Nothing is too much trouble and after what has been a very traumatic time they have made us so welcome. Our room is lovely, looking out onto the garden. Breakfast is relaxed and the food plentiful. We really can't thank everyone enough. Thank you for looking after us so well. Xx

"Very good Hotel and staff"
After an unfortunate 1st night at this hotel which was resolved by a room change our experience was nothing but very good. The hotel is clean, fresh with an large car park and the hotel location was ideally situated for our needs. The staff at this hotel are professional very caring, nothing was too much trouble when helping my disabled wife. Marina.Donna and the room staff were exemplary when helping us. Frank the manager has an excellent team at this hotel, his caring approach to our needs was much appreciated. The room was spacious and well furnished also spotlessly clean. The continental breakfast was very good augmented by freshly cooked bacon and sausages on request. The coffee was freshly made not the usual early morning made, airport jug stored, stale brown liquid. The bar snack and dinner menus are small but were adequate for our needs. All in all we had a very enjoyable 5 nights at this hotel. I would recommend this hotel and intend to make this our "bolt hole" when visiting this part of Suffolk next year. Looking forward to renewing our acquaintance with Frank.Marina.Donna and the rest of the team when we next visit.

"Clayton Best Western - lovely stay"
Staff were brilliant, and very accommodating of me and my 6 year old son. We loved the breakfast buffet, with lots on offer, and also our evening meal the night before - I'd recommend not going for a 3 course meal with a 6 year old though as after the rather filling and yummy tortellini starter he asked for the pudding! I'd go for just main and pudding next time (learning from experience lol).
Claydon Ipswich, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review
Hi, Thank you so much for reviewing Best Western Claydon, we are delighted you were so looked after by the team, and your 6-year-old enjoyed his meal. Please look forward to a warm welcome back in the future. Kind regards Frankie Manners Operations Manager
"Great location"
We stayed for 2 nights and the location was great for visiting the attractions in the area. Just being off the A14 was great. We slept well and were not disturbed by other guests. The room was ideal and very clean. The selection for breakfast was good and we could have ordered bacon and sausages if we wanted. The service was excellent. We didn't eat our evening meal at the hotel. Next door is a fish and chip shop and over the road was a pub. We would stay here again
"Good staff and clean and big rooms only let down the noise and beds"
Really old hotel looks lovely tho floorboards creak when walking around check in was contactless through mobile phone so went straight in for card and went in room decent size room and bathroom was big too, clean and friendly staff however the biggest downfall was the main part the bed and the sleep mattress uncomfortable and springs broken down one side so was sloping down beds made a noise every time someone moved and you can hear people and the tvs on in the rooms as so thin walls and everyone someone walked passed our door banged not a good sleep and we had fans right next to our windows so heard them all night and also they only offer continental breakfasts not sure about evening meal as was all closed when arrived
"Lovely little find"
We stayed 2 nights at this little hotel during the half term break. Great location, close to Ipswich and the coast, which was perfect for exploring. Dinner at the hotel was delicious. Fine dining at it's best in an exquisite dining room. Very reasonably priced too. Staff couldn't do enough for us, very friendly and greeted us with a good morning or evening, depending on the time of day. Room was comfortable and very clean. Smelt newly decorated too. Loved the decor and small touches like the comfy chair. Plenty of choice for the continental breakfast but bacon and sausage available on request. Parking plentiful and very safe tucked away behind the hotel. Had such a lovely, relaxing time and would definitely recommend it to others.
"Lovely stay for business travel"
Hotel is very clean, staff are very friendly and helpful, hotel was very quiet during my stay. The heating was fantastic, room stayed warm. The wifi is very fast too, which was great when I had to work from the hotel. Main downside for my room was the mattress, I could feel all the springs, had to sleep on top of the duvet for a little extra cushion. I have seen complaints to about the beds in previous reviews too, so maybe Hotel needs to do a check of all rooms. Also in my room was a burnt out light bulb, making it a little dim, and a continuously running toilet.
Claydon Ipswich, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review

"Mr"
The hotel is nice, however my room,205,smelt of musty damp. If not had been so tired I would have asked to be moved. Opened windows to air. Also, why only continental breakfast?? Not the way to start a full working day.

"A friendly reception by all staff."
I always find the Best Western's a little shabby recently and this was no exception but this does not defer from a lovely stay in a friendly atmosphere. The room was spacious and clean and the bed was very comfortable. We ate in the hotel restaurant and the food was very good. In all it was like me a bot the worse for wear but very friendly!

"Overnight stay"
Lovely staff and good evening meal. Room was clean and tidy and did the job for an overnight stay. Did not have breakfast so cannot tell what it was like. Easy parking at the back of the hotel. Happy to help out with luggage and helped with local information and places to see in Ipswich. would use again if back in the area
"Mum's 80th birthday celebration"
We organised a surprise family gathering here for our Mum's 80th birthday celebration. The staff team were excellent from the initial enquiry to on the day. It was a lovely room just for our gathering, so very private, excellent food and service. We had the afternoon tea option for 20 people - all dietary requirements catered for. The staff team could not do enough for us on the day, so accommodating and friendly Would definitely recommend
"Ok."
My stay was ok, room was ok, hotel staff were lovely, very accommodating and helpful or any request. Room was clean, but just a little dated as was the whole environment. Felt it was a little pricy for room quality, and the whole vibe of the hotel was below average as to what I would expect for the price.

"October Suffolk get away."
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. We arrived and were given a ground floor room by the road, my partner asked to if we could move to a different room and reception switched straight away. Breakfast was a continental affair, so don't expect a fry up. All in all good value, great staff and good hotel for the price.
Claydon Ipswich, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you so much for reviewing our hotel, I am delighted you were so well looked after by the staff, I will pass your compliments to all. Please look forward to a warm welcome back in the future. Kind regards, Frankie Manners - Operations Manager
"Few days stay working and relaxing"
Hotel staff where excellent, all welcoming and accommodating. The room was clean and comfortable, good shower and deep bath. The food was excellent, so much so that my partner and I are looking to either book a stay or book dinner!

"Few days away visiting family in Stowmarket"
Super place to stay our rooms were on the ground floor so easy to get to car park. Plenty of parking. Rooms were spotless .The staff are lovely very helpful, but professional. Very quiet at night. Can also thoroughly recommend the Crown opposite for good food and very reasonably priced open all day so that is a bonus . Buses run to Ipswich etc right outside Hotel , which we found very useful due to Petrol issues during our stay. About 30mins from Felixstowe.

"Friendly staff"
Great location near A14. Receptionist, Mariana, couldn't have been more helpful. She was very friendly but still professional. Room was comfortable, but carpet needs attention - it looked ‘tired' and had blemishes on it.
Claydon Ipswich, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to leave this review! Mariana will be thrilled for the acknowledgment. The carpet in this room is due to be replaced imminently, thank you for bringing this to our attention. We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the future, many thanks. Kind regards. "Group reunion of couples"
Frankie and the team could not have done more to make our weekend reunion a success. They were attentive, and accommodated to all our needs. The selected meals were superb and cooked to perfection. The rooms clean and comfortable. Some of the rooms were smaller than expected but difficult when you want several rooms together. Breakfast was continental, but plenty to eat with extra tea/ coffee and hot toast brought quickly when requested. A great weekend.
Claydon Ipswich, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review
Hi Monica, Thank you so much for the wonderful review and of course the 5-star rating. We are delighted with this review and thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I am gratified you were looked after by the team to the best of our ability, and you were satisfied with the food and service. I am of course sorry due to the hotel running at capacity we were unable to accommodate all your rooms together. We look forward to welcoming you again near future. Kind Regards. Frankie.
"Comfortable stay"
The hotel is just off the A14 so is easy to get to. Book direct for free parking rather than using an agency. Food is good quality and there are cheaper options opposite in the local pub. Room was very ckean and well equipped. Would recommend for business stays or touring the Suffolk coast.

"Good hotel for touring"
Just returned from a short break at this hotel. Initially the room we were allocated developed a slight problem - but thanks to the efficient staff was dealt with promptly and we were moved to a different room. Both rooms were very clean and tidy, as was the rest of the hotel. The staff were excellent (especially Marianna) who recommended places of interest to visit. The one downside we found was the breakfast, which we were led to believe would be a full English but the day before we arrived we received an email saying only a Continental would be available, with no explanation as to why this was, as the kitchen was fully functional in the evenings. Apart from that one small thing, we would recommend it for a stay.
Claydon Ipswich, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review
Hi Stephen Thank you for reviewing Best Western Claydon Hotel, firstly my sincere apologies for not offering the full service as advertised. Since coming out of lockdown, we have had to adopt many changes to our operations. Due to the ongoing employment crisis throughout the country, we had no other choice than to restructure our catering strategy enabling us to offer a more beneficial service for the customer. Please accept my sincere apologies, we are sorry we did not notify you sooner. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future, many thanks. Kind regards Frankie Manners - Operations Manager
"Beautiful Food"
Attended a Golden wedding Anniversary in a party of fifty. Good car parking. Steps to reception which are steep. Booked in and room on first floor no lift. Room spotless. Twin configuration and beds are narrow . Tiny bar of soap and bottle of Elemis gel located high up on shower wall.Fluffy white towels. Top windows open fully which allowed a fresh breeze in. Removed duvet from cover and slept with duvet cover so had a decent nights sleep. This is a basic room more than adequate for one night but don't expect Premiere Inn standard room. On the other hand the food we ate at reception far exceeds anything I have had eating out in the last twelve months. In fact we gave up doing so as hubby said he ate far better at home. This chef understands ingredients and knows how to cook them. I started with a prawn cocktail and expected ‘Marie rose out of a bottle. Instead I had a few large prawns nestled in a lightly spiced fresh sauce. Followed by a beautifully grilled piece of salmon new potatoes and some mixed veg(now my only complaint is the veg were undercooked). My fellow diners had lamb shanks and they praised them. Finished with a chocolate brownie and ice cream. Some had cheese and biscuits and portions were generous so we all had some to share. Finished with mints and coffee. I understand Frankie was the Chef and is Manager. The staff were superb and worked their socks off. Breakfast the next day was continental and once more staff were amazing. Couldn't do enough for you. Had my bagel toasted and stuffed it with the freshest ham and cheese. Porridge is available in a pot. Endless good coffee and toast. So thank you Frankie and the team for such an excellent meal.excellent service. Now you may get the room at P Inn but I have never had such food or service there. Wish I lived closer. You only drop a star for the basic room, not something you can do anything about but then the last Best Western I stayed at was in Washington DC☺️.

"Good location for major road connections"
Unfortunately, the room was much smaller than expected with a tiny bathroom. However, thankfully we were only staying one night. The facilities were adequate. Car parking was easy. Be aware though that there are many steps for carrying luggage up to reception.
Claydon Ipswich, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review
Hi Daisy We are sorry your visit to the hotel did not exceed all your expectations on this occasion, I assure you that all customer feedback is taken seriously and used to make improvements for guests in the future. With regards to the steps at reception, there is a slope at the front of the building easily accessible, if required we can offer to have your luggage taken to your room for you. "Fabulous stay"
We booked the hotel rather last minute, as were visiting family in Stowmarket. We were really impressed with the accommodation and hotel itself. We had a lovely greeting on arrival and our room was changed to one on the ground floor as my mother struggles with stairs. ( This was offered, rather than us requesting) The dining room and conservatory were nice settings for our breakfast and evening meal. We were extremely impressed with the menu and our meal. The room was what we would expect and had everything we needed. Staff were happy to provide us with extra tea and milk as needed. Easy checkout. I would thoroughly recommend the hotel. The lady who was often on the desk during our stay was an absolute asset for the hotel and went out of her way to ensure we were ok.

"Avoid"
Would not recommend at all sadly, the room was poor to say it was the queen superior it was just a big standard room, not enough towels although there was one holding one of the doors open leading through a corridor!! Fold up beds left in the corridors not what I've come to expect from best western, not the cleanest room either. Restaurant food was poor quality and very pricy pop over the road for some standard pub food because we paid over £60 for two really low standard meals and sat in the uncomfortable ‘conservatory'. Just had a member of staff ring me to ask what he can do basically to offset me posting a negative review ‘ I can give you my direct email', ‘why can I do?', if the hotel was run properly I wouldn't need to post a review like this.
Claydon Ipswich, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Michae, Thank you so much for your review. I am sorry your experience with us did not meet your expectations on this occasion; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. "Great value, friendly hotel"
Such great value for money. Staff are always very helpful and the place is spotless. Have stayed several times and always had a consistently excellent experience. The continental breakfast isn't the best, would prefer a cooked option, communal area decor a bit dated but rooms are fine. I'll definitely be back. My top tip is to book direct with hotel, you'll get a much better deal.

"Best Western Claydon Hotel"
Started well, evening meal excellent, staff brilliant and nice atmosphere. However, stayed in room 202 bed squeaked and creaked every time you moved in it. Got 2 to 3 hours kip. Breakfast was awful, served in a foil takeaway tray. i.e.a breakfast ready meal which was crap. Booked for 2 nights, only stayed the one. Not happy, won't be going or booking a Best Western again.
"Five Star Service for a Budget Price"
Hands down the best service I've ever had at a hotel. The rooms are immaculate, showers great, bedding clean and comfy. There's on-site parking and an overflow car park. The breakfast is hot and delicious with many options available, including gluten free! The staff are well-trained, fantastic, and genuinely care about your day and experience.
"Excellent position"
This hotel is in an excellent position for using as a base for travelling around this part of Suffolk. The rooms are comfortable and the staff very helpful and friendly. The village has good facilities nearby.
"Everything and safe"
One night at hotel and it was great. Lovely welcoming staff ,nice atmosphere. Great food ,beautiful restaurant, easy parking. Most importantly, we felt safe everywhere was clean and well aired. Will visit again.
"Overnight stay August 21"
Friendly and helpful staff. I have stayed here on business many times and always felt welcome. Lovely restaurant and food. Rooms and in general the hotel requires some modernisation but always clean and pleasant for a good nights sleep. To be fair we have experienced tough economic times recently I understand a refurbishment plan is under way. I wish the hotel and the manager Frank all the best for the future
"Clean and comfortable room. Friendly and helpful staff."
Check in was easy and staff very helpful. Breakfast was a little limited due to staffing problems but the hotel did it's best and still managed to offer a cooked or continental option. Room was decent enough size and had everything you would need (though the hair dryer was not very powerful!).
"3 night stay Best Western Hotel Claydon"
Booked for a weekend (3 nights) to go to a local wedding and see relatives. Chose the Queen Room and was not disappointed being roomy and well equipped. Used the Restaurant for evening meals on two occasions with tasty and well presented food. Breakfast due to staffing levels meant a cooked breakfast was in a "take and go" pack. However, everything else was normal, and good. All the staff were exceptionally helpful and willing going out of their way to accommodate us with a medical problem that arose through no fault of the Hotel. Parking is very good although there may be a daily charge if the booking is not made via Best Western or the Hotel direct (the former is what we did) Will definitely use the Hotel again next time we are in the vicinity.
"One night stay for a wedding"
My partner and I stayed for one night as we attended a wedding nearby. We arrived earlier than the advised check in time, but our room was ready, so we were able to check in early without paying an additional fee. The room was small, but the bed was really comfy and the staff were really polite and friendly.

"Not bad at all. Small Room but comfy enough. Great Dinner and good breakfast."
Room was small, but fairly comfy. Not enough room to lay out our cases without tripping up on them, but very clean and the air-con was welcomed. Our room (214) had a random buzzing noise come from the wall every 5 minutes. Reception said it was a pump that was turned off at 11pm. They did adjust it though and I heard it much less that day... thank you! On the 2nd Day it did buzz until 11pm as advised, but we learned to live to with it. Our deal included Breakfasts and £20 restaurant credit. Dinner was superb and breakfast was good. The reheated cooked breakfast worked really well and was served really quickly. Staff were really helpful and friendly. A little bit unhappy that 2 days before arriving I had an e-mail inviting to upgrade, but never got a reply from my e-mail. When I arrived, I was told that they were fully booked anyhow, so no upgrade would have been available. An e-mail back when I sent my request would have been good but it did save £60.
"Wedding overnight stay"
I booked this hotel as I was attending a wedding nearby. I needed to leave my bags at the hotel in the morning before check-in (14:00) due to needing to get ready at the Bride's hotel as I was a bridesmaid. I was just expecting my bags to be held at reception, however I was greeted by the friendly reception team, who actually took my bags to my room for me as it was ready and so I could head off to wedding. Room was clean and comfortable, with all the basic amenities provided. Very friendly staff and check-in and check-out was such a simple and easy process. Thank you for a comfortable and friendly stay!

Lovely hotel and very helpful staff as I needed a hotel near the wedding I was attending and it had everything I needed and highly recommended place to stay . Also it had air con in the room and it was well worth the price I paid .

"Friendly, helpful staff - Good Food"
We chose this hotel for short break as it was the nearest to the points of interest we wanted to see, and it was in a country location, rather than a town or city. Very easy to get to and find. Concerns about possible traffic noise from A14 proved groundless. We has a big, quiet room with aircon - and as we went during heatwave this was most welcome. Very friendly staff, willing to help and meet our requests. Food was very good, much better than we had expected and reasonably priced.

"3 night stay July 2022"
Lovely stay, room was very nice and spotlessly clean. Staff were ALL very attentive and friendly. We had a small issue on arrival however the team worked together to sort this out and resolved it very quickly. We would recommend a stay here without any hesitation. Thank you for looking after us.

The standard of the evening meal here is excellent. Well above what would normally be expected from a Best Western Hotel. The staff as always go the extra mile to help you out with anything they can. Its even better outside of Covid restrictions

Really nice value hotel for a one night stay to see friends and family. Friendly staff. Rooms were clean and had everything we needed. Slightly limited dinner menu (could be due to recent reopening?) But the food was excellent. Would definitely recommend.

"Great"
Really really comfortable bed, yummy breakfast and great coffee. The staff were friendly and really happy to help with anything at any hour of the day. My only wish was that the toilet in our room had been further from the bed.
"Lovely visit"
Spent 3 nights at this hotel. Room was a good size and nice and clean. We had breakfast each morning with a choice of continental or hot which, under covid restrictions, was most acceptable. We also had dinner on 2 nights and the food was of an exceptional standard. The staff at this hotel were very helpful, friendly and went out of their way to make our stay a pleasant one. A special mention to Marina (deputy manager I think). The Manager was also very attentive. This hotel was very good value and under difficult circumstances gave excellent service. Highly recommend the restaurant for evening meal.
"Linda"
My friend and I had a 3 day stay. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly they gave us all the assistance we required under covid rules. The food in the restaurant was excellent and the service friendly and efficient. I can highly recommend this.
"Foodie heaven"
Stayed 4 nights at Best Western. Great location for visiting Suffolk. Room was pretty average 6/10. Staff were very friendly 9/10. Food was excellent 10/10. Hotel dealt well with covid restrictions. Would return to hotel just to sample the food again.
"Great base"
Super clean, brilliant staff, Marina being the jewel in the crown. Marina bent over backwards to make the stay comfortable, extra pillows, a fan, ice. A huge asset to the team. Couple of pubs opposite so perfect for a drink after long days out exploring Suffolk. Fairly central to use as a base for days out in Aldeburgh, Southwold, Felixstowe and a trip to Colchester uni to see daughter. Covid foil breakfast dish was disappointing but understandable. On the one day breakfast was served fresh on a plate it was cooked and served well.
Frankie Manners, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review

Very best regards Frankie Manners-Operations Manager
"Lovely staff"
Staff were very friendly and helpful, cannot fault them but very disappointed with our so called double room where 2 single beds pushed together and a disabled bathroom??? Decorations were tired, the room was on the road side, very surprised we were given this room, perhaps it was punishment for not taking up the there emailed offer to upgrade for £10. I guess when I pay for a double room then I get a double room.
"Amazing stay"
We really enjoyed our time. The room was lovely and the staff were just amazing especially Mariana who went above and beyond for us and the chef who went out of his was to find gluten free items for my husband. Would highly recommend.
Frankie Manners, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you so much for the pleasant review. I will ensure Mariana and Luke our chef are made aware of your compliments, they will be delighted as will the rest of the team. Hope to see you again, soon, many thanks kind regards, Frankie Manners- Operation's Manager.
"Little Gem"
After the COVID-19 restrictions were eased we decided to get away for a couple of days. This wonderful little hotel came up and we booked it. On arrival we were greeted and checked in without fuss. The room (206) was lovely, very clean, well furnished and had ice cold air conditioning which was definitely needed during the May/June Bank Holiday 2021. We had dinner on our second night and it was extremely well presented and tasted just as good. Sarah (Deputy Manager) was very attentive and made our stay very welcoming, a very professional member of staff. On our departure day we decided to have a grab and go breakfast so we could make a head start to our next destination in the next county. The breakfast was exceptional, a hot sandwich, fruit juice, yogurt, fruit, cupcake, energy bar, bite size cheese, it lasted for our entire day. We recommend this gem of a hotel and would definitely visit again.

"Lovey Weekend Away"
Pleasant hotel whose greatest assets are its staff. They really made us feel welcome and were ever so helpful and obliging. The hotel itself is a little tired but nothing specific that you would complain about. The food was excellent.

"Good service"
Couple of hiccups on arrival but overcome as they should be and considering the hotel had only been open a week after 7 months on mothballs they did well. Perhaps the room could have been a bit better but plenty of hot water, food served in accordance with Covid rules which needed a bit of getting used to but staff lovely. Good parking and wifi throughout. Time needed to get staff back and back to normal.
Frankie Manners, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review

"Last Minute Booking"
Located on the outskirts of Ipswich and offering a great value deal the BW Claydon was our home for one night. The included dinner was lovely and the grab-and-go breakfast option was a good alternative in current times. Really friendly and helpful staff, who seemed so pleased to have the hotel open to guests again. Room was fine, most importantly the bed was comfy and the noise minimal from outside/other rooms.

"Business Overnight "
Nathan and I spent a Thursday night in this hotel after a day working in Stowmarket The hotel is perfectly clean and tidy , there isn't much to say about the rooms other than they where exceptionally good value at approximately £50 per night However a three course meal for £20 a head which was very good makes raises this rating from three to four stars Excellent venue for the traveling man

Stayed here for 3 weeks with 6 other lads from Mantank as we were working nearby. The level of service from Sarah, Tracey and the Team went well beyond our expectations. "Short Stay"
We had a pleasant couple of nights at this hotel and overall felt it offered good value for money. The hotel was clean, the staff were helpful throughout and the food was fresh and tasty on both evenings when we ate in the restaurant. We had a room at the front of the hotel which is on the main road and for light sleepers could be a problem. Therefore, I would recommend a room away from the road. Despite this I would have no problem staying here again when visiting the local area. Keep up the good work.

"Best Western Claydon"
The hotel was excellent value. All the staff we dealt with were lovely - so friendly and helpful. Dinner was delicious. The room was spotless. The décor was a little tired, but fine for a 3* hotel and would definitely stay there again if I was visiting the area.

"Special place .."
We have been visiting the sister ship “ Gatehouse Hotel ‘for many years .Since Covid she has been closed ..so stayed this summer at the Claydon Hotel instead . We were certainly not disappointed... by this move . Although it lacks some off the old world charm .. of the much loved Gatehouse . The room was very comfortable and clean . The manager ..Frankie was so friendly and very welcoming as were all his colleagues . The dinner was very well cooked. and presented . What made out visit very special was meeting Marina again ..who undoubtedly made out previous tris to the Gatehouse very special . She goes beyond the call to make everything perfect for her guests ..and we will be back soon ...because there are some folk in life that go beyond what is necessary to make you feel totally comfortable . Thank you
Claydon Ipswich, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Alivanmanen Thank you so much for the lovely review, I am delighted you were looked after so well, unfortunately, without the old world charm of the Gatehouse, however, we hope our personalities made up for the loss. I will pass on your compliments to the staff, especially Marina. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future many thanks. Kind regards Frankie Manners Operations Manager
"Lovely and very economical hotel"
Although not as romantic as the Gatehouse, were we have stayed many times in the past, the hotel was clean, the food was excellent and god value. The manager, Frankie, was very friendly and professional, but the icing on the cake was having Marina there. She is soo welcoming and warm, she makes you want to come back time and time again . The owners of these two hotels certainly know how to make you feel welcome. We will be going back later in October without any doubt.

I stayed two nights, the bath had the previous occupants hair still in it, I did mention this to the staff who offered to clean it, I did it myself as I had taken wipes with me, no tea and coffee facilities in the room, although you can go to reception and they will give you complimentary tea and coffee, the coffee was revolting though! A simple email informing me of this and I would have brought my travel kettle, it's the small things! I like lots of coffee and I don't like to keep bugging people so that is my major problem really, I don't understand why that is an issue when remotes are left in the room and apparently sanitised? I didn't have breakfast so can't comment on the grab and go option. Other than that, the the staff are incredibly friendly, polite and helpful, the bed was comfortable, I would stay again as my previous stay was 5*****

"Worst Hotel Stay of My Life"
My mother is a 79 year old, disabled women who was really looking forward to spending the week with her sister and her family, who we haven't seen for 4 years. But, this trip was corrupted and ruined by staying at the Best Western Claydon Country House Hotel, which from the experience I can say will NEVER happen again because we will never stay there again. When I arrived at the Hotel at 2pm on the 13th July, I paid in full £386 for 1 twin room, for a 6 night stay. Soon After entering the room we discovered that the shower wasn't very well clean and the sink didn't empty properly, leaving the sink full of dirty water. The room was generally dusty and the feeling that the room hadn't been cleaned since before the hotel closed in March remained. After we requested someone to help us with the sink issue the receptionist came and explained that the sink's push plug is operated slightly differently, but when she tried to fix it, it still wouldn't work. She then invited another receptionist in who also had no luck. They then said that they will call the plumber to fix it. we waited in the room for almost 2 hours before deciding to pack up and go home, after being forgotten about by the staff. I was fuming at this point. I didn't drive 100 miles to stay in a dirty and unsanitary room for a week, to then be forgotten about. While I was loading the car back up with my mother's wheel chair and belongings I was approached by the owner who apologised for the delay and offered us 2 other rooms, as they couldn't fix the sink. Normally when a hotel owner would say it would not require another charge. But he took me to reception where I paid an additional £304 for the new rooms and please note I only paid this because I was sure I was going to be reimbursed for the £386 I initially paid. From there on I was happy in my new room that was offered but, my mother did not. My mother's room's toilet was not flushing properly indicated by your operations manager, entering the room, wearing a mask and gloves to assess what was wrong. After confirming that he would be able to fix the issues with the toilet he left the room to get tools to sort out the problem. Upon fixing the toilet he said to my mother to leave the top of the toilet off so it can function. I really wouldn't call this ‘Fixing the issue'. The evening meal consisted of both frozen fish & Chips which was less than satisfactory, considering the Fish & Chip shop opposite would have fresh produce and it would be cheaper. When attempting to go to sleep that night, we had both realised that there was such a large amount of traffic coming through the village, which were mostly trucks. This made often and increasing noise. Considering the road is less than 5 meters away from our windows, these rooms were actually the worst possible rooms to put us in. I would have thought that the owner of the hotel, he would know that A14 south bound was closed, which diverted traffic through Claydon and past the hotel till early hours in the morning. This proved very challenging to get to sleep. When the morning finally came, after having only 2 hours sleep we decided to check out, from having a horrible experience. Upon checking out I expected to receive an invoice but, was never given one and this left me not completely understanding what I had paid for. My mother has been on the phone with both Best Western and the hotel directly and I must say that I am less than impressed with and how this has been dealt with. She was told that a letter has been sent to us, but 4 weeks later we have still received no further word. Before doing this review, I chose to look through previous reviews to see if any of the issues I had with the hotel, had popped up before. I have read a few responses from the “Operations Manager” who has stated that they had offered someone a different (deluxe) room as a “gesture of good will” because it did not meet their expectations. He also stated that the “gesture of good will” was to keep that guest “happy”. When reading this, I thought the Best Western Claydon Country House Hotel‘s Management were clearly not caring enough to offer us this so called “gesture of good will” because they didn't care if we were happy or not! Just wanted the extra £304 I had to pay! I'd like to say that all customers are treated equally, but clearly this isn't the case at The Best Western Claydon county House Hotel. I was initially doing this review as an email directly to the hotel, best western and their complaints department. But, soon after speaking with best western directly I found out that that the hotel's owner had categorically said we ‘will not be refunded any money'. Hearing this made me feel that The Claydon Country House Hotel haven't acted professionally, have lied and never intended to refund any of the money, even after hearing we had such a horrible stay. I wouldn't recommend anyone to stay here, but if you are looking to have an unpleasant, unhygienic, corrupt and overall uncomfortable stay then by all means, the Best Western Claydon Country House hotel is for you. Kind regards Joseph O'Rourke
Claydon Ipswich, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Mr O'Rourke, Thank you for the time taken to provide this review, in response I must say I am disappointed to read of your experience and I am terribly sorry this has been left to materialise in this way. This is not the standard we aim to deliver; I can only apologise, if on this occasion we did not meet your expectations, however, there are a few things I wish to clarify because I believe the comments which you have made are unfair. The hotel had recently re-opened a week prior to your booking. All bedrooms were fully sanitised before and there were no issues reported prior, during, or after the room was serviced by housekeepers. We were aware this room had been booked by you and your mother. Your mother had called the hotel at least three times during lockdown and had stated that she would need to book two rooms next to each other rather than a twin room because you did not want to stay with her in the same room. However later we were advised that because of budget issues she wanted to book a twin room. After check-in we were made aware there were issues with the swivel sink plug, this had become tightly wedged. I met with you at reception and at no time did you make me aware of any dis-satisfaction. You then, for some personal reasons, decided to check out. We asked you if there was anything we could do and you told at least two of our staff members and also the owner that there was nothing wrong with the hotel and that you had decided to leave because of personal reasons and that we had done whatever we could. The owner then spoke to you and informed you that your mother had informed him before making the booking that you did not want to stay with her in the same room and if that was the reason they wanted to leave then we could offer your mother another room and could also offer you another room next to your mother's room at a discounted rate which would be non-refundable. You then spoke to your mother and asked us if we could show the two rooms to you. You were in both those rooms for at least fifteen minutes during which time we left you on your own to make a decision. After fifteen minutes you came to reception and confirmed that you were happy with the rooms and would like to take up our offer. Prior to your meal we enjoyed pleasant conversations at reception, before allowing you to browse through the menu. After your meal I met with you, although briefly, in reception and once again you gave no impression you were dissatisfied, and you seemed content. Soon after my attention was again alerted by the receptionist, it was in relation to your mother's room, I arrived at the room in question in full PPE to assist. I was advised that the toilet would not flush. I tried to explain to your mother that once the toilet had been flushed she needed to give time for the cistern to fill up before flushing again but she kept on pushing the flush button without giving the chance for the cistern to fill up. I once again explained to your mother and then left her content. My understanding is that you were in and out of your mother's room all night (for reasons not known to us) and the next morning you decided to check out. You once again advised the receptionist that there was nothing wrong with the hotel and that you wanted to leave because of personal reasons and that he did not expect the hotel to refund any monies because it was not our fault. Your mother subsequently contacted Best Western customer services who carried out a full investigation and came to the conclusion that we had everything to satisfy you and your mother. I would be happy to discuss this with you and would request you to contact me on the hotel number. Yours Sincerely Frankie Manners-Operations Manager
"Facilities now severely restricted; Best Western rules."
We visited soon after re-opening after Covid-19 closures. We were not allowed tea-making facilities in our room; lots of things have been stripped out. This kettle rule is a Best Western rule. The staff are happy to make tea if you come downstairs and ask them. The dining room is all shut up; breakfast is "grab and go", but still £10.00 apparently. (We did not partake of this as there's a pub across the road that serves a perfectly good cooked breakfast for about £5.00. ) Also, Best Western are not passing on the V.A.T. decrease. The rooms are a bit tired now. Our mattress was very saggy. We had to ask for extra pillows as everything had been stripped out. Having said that, the staff were extremely helpful and doing a great job in difficult times. More generally, the hotel has pleasant surroundings, its own car park, two pubs nearby and little local store over the road. Traffic can be quite loud for a country road.
Claydon Ipswich, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Sir, Thank you for taking the time to review Best Western Claydon Hotel, we are delighted you enjoyed your stay to some degree, however, due to the ongoing pandemic, we have been advised to follow the guidance provided by the Centre for Disease and prevention to ensure the health and safety of our staff and customers. Despite the bear tables the dining room is open to all, however, closed to the public when not in use or during the night. All our prices are dynamic and inclusive of VAT. These are extremely challenging times for us all, however, we look forward to welcoming you back in the future, hopefully during brighter times. once again thank you for your understanding. Regards. Frankie Manners - Operations Manager.
"did the job"
Clean rooms and venue, polite friendly staff. Large room comfy beds and the added benefit of the air con. no drink facilities in the room but available at the bottom of the stairs. Basic menu for now and a takeaway breakfast which was better than nothing.
Claydon Ipswich, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for the review, we strive to maintain the highest standards for our guests, we are happy that you had a pleasant stay during the current climate. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future hopefully with brighter times ahead. your sincerely. Frankie Manners Operations Manager
"Satisfactory for my needs"
Pleasant stay room I was in was clean and there was little noise from other guests although not sure how many others there were. Any issues I had were probably more to do with govt restrictions than anything else. I was originally moved from gatehouse as this was not open although the booking had gone through. I had searched for bookings with breakfast as when away I like to start the day with a cooked breakfast. However I'm guessing due to covid there was no cooked breakfast and the extra £10 guests pay for breakfast was in the form of a goody bag type breakfast which is probably great for some but can still be bought from local stores for far less. I really do not like sweet things in the morning so was unable to eat a lot of mine as it consisted of a croissant, chocolate muffin, raisin nutirgrain bar and some fruit. So I did start both days hungry and ready for food by about 10 am. The first morning there was a lovely lady on duty who gave me some cornflakes and a yoghurt which I was able to eat which helped a little. It really was just the breakfast that was the issue and wish I'd been aware of this before booking as I would have looked elsewhere to find somewhere that did do proper breakfasts especially as I feel I've paid for it but was unable to eat most of it.
Claydon Ipswich, General Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review
We are sorry we did not meet with all your expectations during your recent stay, we have recently returned from lockdown and currently operating in exceedingly difficult circumstances, however, I do agree with your comments and will review the breakfast with immediate effect. Please accept my sincere apologies, we hope you will continue to support us in the future Regards. Frankie Manners Operations Manager
"Quiet venue with good food."
After a long drive was in need of food then sleep. Deciding to stay at the hotel restaurant must say was not disappointed. Good selection on the menu, the mixed grill was large and normally I could eat it all. Tiredness got the better. Room clean and as expected. Only saw one other resident but it was a Sunday night.

"Great"
Stayed at the weekend and the hotel is great. Spotlessly clean and very friendly welcoming staff, we ate in the hotel and would highly recommend to do so, food of a very high standard, very fresh and piping hot. There was a great variety for breakfast and the Full English again was fresh and piping hot, thank you for a lovely stay.

"Deceptive pictures and unfair hotel staff"
We had booked and fully paid at the best western hotel in ipswitch, they were repairing the boiler so they moved us to their sister hotel in Claydon. All this after traveling for more then 36 hours from the other side of the world. They were very unfriendly and put us in a small standard uncomfortable room, while we had booked a spacious room just like the pictures of the room we booked online. After complaining a couple of times and requesting a refund to go and book somewhere else they “upgraded” us to a nicer more spacious room. While this was really the kind of room we had booked in the first place. They offered us a complementary newspaper and when we checked out we had to pay for the newspaper we had never asked for. They should have been honest and informed us that it was going to be an extra charge rather then offering it to us for free. It's not professional, not very friendly and not fair to their guests. We won't be booking through booking.com anymore either as it's complicated getting a refund when you get deceived like this.
ksaeed, Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Sir, Thank you for your review. You had a standard double room at the Gatehouse Hotel. This room was booked on a advance purchase rate plan. You however wanted a bath but all our standard rooms had a shower. We offered you our sister hotel which you accepted. We gave you a deluxe room with a bath but you wanted a bigger room. We informed you that you had booked a standard double room and that we had upgraded you to a deluxe room with a bath as a goodwill gesture. We informed you that you could upgrade to a Premier room at a nominal fee but you refused to pay. Once again as a goodwill gesture just to keep you happy we upgraded you to a Premier room for free. You were very happy with this room. Two days before you departure date you came to reception and said that you had finished what you had come to do in Ipswich and that you wanted to check out. You asked us to refund you for the two days that you would not be staying with us. We informed you that you had booked an advance purchase rate which was not refundable and also the fact that we had gone out of our way to try and keep you happy. I think it is really unfair you posting a bad review just because we did not refund for something which you not entitled for. If you would like to discuss this further you are kindly requested to contact me directly at the hotel. Frankie Manners Operations Manager.
"Brilliant but..."
Wonderful service, lovely food, great value BUT the roast potatoes were dire. If they had been great; in my humble opinion you would have got a ten out of ten but they need a lot of improvement... I make my own which receive a lot of compliments & am a foodie & eat out a lot so I do feel I am slightly qualified to comment.

"Terrible night's sleep"
We were originally booked to stay at the Best Western in Whitton. We arrived to check in and were told that since the chef was sick, they were relocating guests to the Best Western Claydon, 5-10 mins up the road on the A14. Not very convenient for us as we'd chosen the Whitton one so that we could walk back after visiting family for Christmas so we could have some drinks rather than driving. So we drove to the Claydon one and checked in quite late and went to bed straightaway. Unfortunately we didn't get much sleep because our (tiny) room was right opposite the door that leads to the stairs and exit, and people were coming and going for hours (think it finally stopped around 12:30am). The door hinges needed oiling... it creaked so bad. And it kept slamming shut. And this started back up again quite early the next morning. Around 11:30pm that evening someone was vaccumming the hallways... and because of the lack of seal between door and door frame we heard all of that too. The shower the next morning was pitiful, barely enough water pressure to get the shampoo out. The breakfast was amazing the next morning (and it was complementary due to the change in hotels) - it was the type of breakfast I'd expect to find at fancy cafe - definitely a lot better than the usual standard of hotel breakfast. Unfortunately I didn't feel great having barely slept so didn't eat much of it. Also both receptionist's at the Whitton and Claydon BWs were friendly and helpful.
Claydon I, Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel, and please accept my sincere apologies for not exceeding your expectations on this occasion. Due to issues surrounding the Gatehouse hotel over the Christmas period, we decided to close the property and relocate all guests to our sister Hotel; Best Western Claydon. We are sorry the accommodation offered was not suitable for you, however, complimentary breakfast was offered and accepted. Should you wish to discuss this matter further please do not hesitate to contact me directly to resolve this matter. I look forward to hearing from you in due course, many thanks. Kind regards. "A bit tired and rundown"
Stayed here last night and left feeling as tired and run down as the hotel. Very tired looking and carpets seen better days. Floors creaked and there was a lot of noise transfer from adjoining rooms. Avoid as there are much better options in the area
"Underwhelmed "
Staff members decidedly scruffy in appearance, even the duty manager looked as though she had slept in her clothes and a hairbrush was a foreign object. Fairly efficient check in but the room was pokey and the bathroom poorly designed with a feeble shower. No hair dryer although one was delivered quickly on request.
"Great location, very clean, fantastic friendly staff, amazing breakfast, good value for money."
My wife and I booked a weekend stay, we could not fault anything from the moment we checked in till we checked out, the room was clean and all the basics available, the staff were really friendly and efficient, the breakfast was really nice, cooked just as requested.
"A very warm welcome and relaxing stay"
I checked into the hotel for one night on the 17th July 2019. Without going into too much detail, I just needed somewhere to get my head down and process some difficult things that are currently going on in my life. The receptionist (Maria?) was incredibly warm and welcoming. She sensed that I was upset and showed great kindness and compassion. She was equally as kind during the checkout. The room was clean and comfortable and my stay was worth the money just for the service I received from the receptionist.
Claydon I, Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review
Hi Nicholas, Thank you for your review, I will pass on your praises to Maria, she is very special to us; may I take this opportunity to thank you for your business. we look forward to your return in the future, many thanks. Kind regards. Frankie Manners-Operation Manager
"Very Pleasant"
I stayed here as I was on business in the area for a couple of days Pros Easy to locate Great staff Excellent food Comfortable beds Extremely fast WiFi Plenty of parking Very clean and tidy Not so great (there were no cons) Fixed hairdryer in bathroom is very dated Something hotel can't help but no phone signal on 2 different networks in bedroom Overall I would happily stay here again

"Avoid at all costs"
Don't ever stay here if you can avoid it, and if you really really must, don't accept room 101. The bed is a few feet from a busy main road with constant traffic and if my experience is anything to go by you might be better trying to sleep in your car in a lay-by. The receptionist smirked when I told her how noisy the room is…of course she knew already! Terrible, terrible, terrible place best avoided.
Claydon I, Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to fill in the customer review, I understand you were not satisfied with the room allocated to you; this is however an adequate double standard room and we have never had any complaints from any guest who have occupied it. On behalf of our entire team, I would once again like to apologise for not exceeding your expectations. Yours sincerely. Frankie Manners Operations Manager
"Fab hotel and staff! Lovely short break "
Loved our stay and the hotel is opposite a hungry horse pub. Our room was very clean, comfy and well equipped. A few negatives are; a party of guests coming back at 2am very rowdily, waking us up. They didn't even try to be quiet. Room was very warm, there was air con but the unit was very noisy. It was either be too hot or put up with the noise as the noise from the road would be too much with the window open. Bathroom very roomy. The shower was hot and powerful but very noisey! Staff incredibly helpful. Good sized car park. Good breakfast. Comfortable beds.
Claydon I, Manager at Best Western Claydon Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to fill in the customer review, we are sorry we did not meet with all your expectations; we encourage all guests occupying the hotel to respect others at all times. A full inspection of the shower and aircon units will be carried out imminently: thank you for bringing this to our attention. I hope this did not spoil your time spent with us. On behalf of myself & the team, please accept our sincere apologies. We hope to see you again soon. Kind regards. Frankie Manners Operations Manager

Lovely clean hotel, staff polite, friendly and helpful, not wheelchair friendly too many steps. Only 1 accessible room which is the other end of hotel and restaurant the other with steps in between with a stair lift.

We stayed here after travelling down from liverpool for a funeral, the hotel was perfect for what we needed. Nice pub accross the road for the evening and a lovely breakfast in the hotel in the morning. Rooms were clean and comfortable but what really made this hotel stand out was the staff. We stayed one night at this local hotel. The hotel is well maintained and in good order, with ample free parking. Checking was swift and no hassle. Our room was pleasant, the bed and pillows very comfortable. We didn't have a meal or breakfast but where offered both. Overall a good nights stay.

"Great place to stay when visiting Ipswich / Colchester / Bury St Edmunds"
We were on a family visit and were originally booked in at the BW Gatehouse Hotel, Ipswich and were asked to move to the near by Claydon Hotel due to the fact that there was to be some maintenance work on the heating system. The Claydon hotel is close by and we were upgraded when we moved. Friendly staff, and a good choice for the evening meal. Room facilities identical to other BW hotels and the Claydon Hotel similar to the Gatehouse Hotel are 'country House' style hotels. Comfortable rooms, with hot drinks and Ironing facilities in the room. Ample free parking and easy access to Ipswich / A14

"Short stay"
Good value for money with nice freshly cooked breakfast which is served hot! Rooms vary so I suggest taking to the reception staff as they will be able to suggest the best room for you - double bed was much comfier than single, bath in one room but shower wasn't very good in that room - shower cubicle in double room was great. Detached hairdryer was much better than fixed - little things but staff are great and very helpful so ask.

"Fabulous staff"
Well after being woken at stupid o'clock by some earthquake snorer who just didn't let up (room directly below), the night porter changed my room. Unfortunately I left my tablet in the original room and didn't realize until the hotel rang me 200 miles away. Unbelievable, the hotel packaged it up and sent it to me withnext day delivery. Just could not fault that service. With regards to the room, clean, modern and comfortable. Location to Ipswich, ok. Breakfast was fantastic. Overall, fantastic hotel spoil by some person with a serious snoring problem which was not the hotel's fault.

"Family Christmas"
We spent two nights over Christmas at Best Western Claydon Hotel while visiting family in Claydon. We couldn't fault any aspect of our stay. The staff were friendly, attentive and professional right from the moment we made the booking, to follow up emails, making restaurant reservations for our family lunch. The room is a good standard for a 3 star hotel, it was spotlessly clean, warm and the bathroom was modern with a decent shower. The mattress is a little hard but for the price and a 2 star hotel it was completely acceptable. We had Christmas lunch at the hotel with our family that live in the village and for the price it was extremely good quality and excellent value for money. The service was fantastic, everything was served piping hot and the portions were good. If you are visiting family, friends or staying in Claydon for business or a wedding party I would highly recommend booking the Best Western Claydon Hotel.

"Anniversary lunch"
We chose Claydon House Hotel again for our anniversary lunch. Good choices on the special Christmas menu. The waitresses were very courteous and helpful. The food was fantastic! Recommend to eat any time. When we left they gave us a box of chocolates with their best wishes for our anniversary. We will be back again and again.

"Great staff - very friendly - nothing was too much trouble"
Booked for a couple of nights - was visiting the Corn Exchange to see David O'Doherty and catching up with family. Room was clean, but cold until we worked out the radiators didn't work but that the A/C unit pumped out hot air too! Didn't have evening meals there but enjoyed the cooked breakfast. Happily they catered for gluten allergies and were still able to enjoy a fried slice with the bacon! Also had my Earl Grey and Red Bush teas. Refilled when requested and fresh milk in a jug rather than the pots of milk. Asked for big mugs too and they were sourced in a flash for a proper cuppa (needed hand warming after a long walk down the river from Needham Market!!) The staff were friendly and happy to do whatever was needed to make the stay more enjoyable. The only downside was the lack of tv reception on some channels. Ample car parking too, bus stop just outside if need be as well.

"Exceeded Expectations."
Visited in October, with a group of 20 for 3 nights.Room was clean and well presented. The absolutely outstanding feature of this hotel is the food. We were expecting a reasonable standard of hotel type food each night, but were completely knocked off our feet at the quality and taste and presentation of all types of dishes that we all ate. Top marks to the Chef.

"A very comfortable and quiet stay"
Hotel is very clean and quiet. Room had air conditioning, worked really well. Shower powerful and hot. Food was lovely and service really good. Check in easy and staff helpful. Breakfast was the best I've ever had in a hotel!!! This is a village location, there is a bus route that runs pretty frequently (at least on the hour I think) into the main Ipswich town, it runs opposite the hotel to the right. There is also a bus into neighbouring villages which have a main train line into London. I would recommend going to Stowmarket to do this rather than Ipswich as it is easier to get from the bus to the station. The bus drivers are friendly and will point you in the right direction (approx 7 minute walk). If you want a taxi make sure you either prepare for a little wait or book one in preparation as they have to come from neighbouring town/village and take around 10 - 20 minutes to arrive if they have cabs available. The pub across the road does standard fayre pub grub - not really my cup of tea but I do know it is popular so be prepared for a wait, people I met in the pub there had to wait over an hour from queuing to book to food on the table.Thoroughly recommend this hotel. I stayed in room 222.

"Griffin Ringers 2018 Outing"
We would thoroughly recommend this hotel to all, if you are a couple or a party looking for a venue to have as a base for touring Suffolk. For the staff nothing was too much trouble, the accommodation was excellent ( particularly if you have 'picky' people in your party!) and the food provided was probably the best I have experienced. A huge thank you from 23 very satisfied people for making us so welcome and providing us with a truly memorable weekend.

"Food amazing - rooms not so good"
We stayed here as part of a large group for 3 nights including breakfast and a three course meal each evening. The food was exceptional- absolutely delicious and the staff were lovely. Such a pity about the rooms though - the first night we had a large comfy bed and tiny en-suite - but the room was right on the road and so noisy so we asked to be moved - the second room was tiny and dark with a small uncomfortable bed but at least it was quieter! Broken glass in the bathroom window and generally all a bit tired and in need of some serious TLC. Such a shame when the staff and food are so good - get your act together Best Western!

"Pleasant stay"
Great place to lay your head for a short visit. Clean and tidy, right opposite a pub for good beer and reasonable grub. We only stayed for one night but would do it again if needs be. Nice town too. Pretty and relatively quiet.

"What a difference a day makes part 1"
Staff helpful carried our cases to second floor as no lifts. Awful room noise from kitchen fans told it would stop at 9pm, we were tired from journey so went out for meal in the pub across the road. We had to ask twice for fans to be switched off after 9pm it was intolerable, there was no water pressure in the bathroom, hard pushed to clean your teeth let alone take a shower and we did not sleep as noise from traffic all night kept us a wake. Plus when we went make a cup of tea the socket and wring was loose which we had to point out. Charlotte on reception was very helpful the next morning when we asked to move rooms, when we got back from a wedding. (Reason we had booked hotel as it was quite close) the cases had been moved downstairs into a room with running water and certainly quieter. At breakfast I had to point out that the croissants were hard. The staff were great but the whole hotel needs to be looked at to be updated.

"Peace and quiet"
Stayed for two nights in a superior room (room 202) which looked onto the main road but due to air conditioning in the room and good windows, the noise was not a problem. Lovely big room with very comfortable bed, spotlessly clean and great power shower over the bath. Full English breakfast was huge and delicious and served by very smiley waitresses. Evening meal was amazing. All staff were really friendly especially the lovely lady on reception. Would recommend this small but perfect hotel for anyone seeking a peaceful break.

"Friendly staff but hotel not great"
Hotel is run down from the outside and the inside doesn't get much better. Rooms are small and old fashioned, could do with updating. Shower kept cutting out whilst in use, grouting was dirty, hairdryer old and yellowing. Toe nail on bedroom floor and pubic hairs on floor in bathroom. Asked for cheese and ham toastie, simple order, yet the chef couldn't even get that right, it was not as the menu, wrong bread and no dressing. Large garden yet no seating areas to enjoy it. Restaurant had no atmosphere, only one table occupied. Staff expected to be receptionist, bar person and waitress, although they did this with a smile and a friendly attitude. This was the first hotel I have ever stayed in (and I stay in a lot) that I haven't asked for late check out, couldn't wait to leave, very disappointing. Have stayed at Best Western before and been ok but this one lets them down.
"Room was lovely! "
Stayed for one night as was attending a wedding locally. First impressions of the hotel was that the outside was lovely - much smaller than I had expected. Nice little garden at the rear. Foyer was a little dated, but not unexpected. Seemed very clean. Nice little bar area next to reception. The room, however, was lovely! Clearly recently refurbished. Very comfortable king size bed. Great bathroom with walk in shower. Drink prices in bar very reasonable! We'd quite like to have taken dinner, but unfortunately they don't serve an evening mean until 7pm, which was too late, as we had to be elsewhere. The restaurant looked very nice and modern. Didn't take breakfast (even though it was included in the rate) as had to drive home early. All in all, a lovely base. Very clean with a friendly welcome and service.

"Average Experience"
Bed had hairs in it. This might have been from the cleaner not sure but it diid not feel good. I did not like the shower as it would not stay in one position and flapped around all over the place. The soap in the shower is to high and should be bought down to reaching level. It was a small shower room and could have been redisgned for a shower only, it does not need a bath. Both door keys would not work and needed re programming and still would not work. You had to jiggle it around to work, eventually did.

"Totally mislead by room description "
We booked the most expensive ‘queen room' specifically because it was detailed in the room description as having a bed of size 180-210cm wide. On arrival the bed was only 150 cm wide and there was no available alternative that could be offered to us. The duty manager was unhelpful and argumentative saying that the description was only a suggestion of what might be in the room, not what was actually available! As it is not possible for us to sleep in that small sized bed, we were unable to stay and had to drive back to Essex that night after the function that we were staying for thus ruining what should have been a very enjoyable evening. Am still awaiting a reply and full refund for goods not supplied as detailed.

"Abysmal"
The worst hotel I have ever stayed in. We booked two nights only stayed one. A telephone box for a shower, as I was booked in as a disabled person, the hotel staff have no idea about disabled people or their requirements. Would have been better in a tent.

"Worst Best Western I have ever been to"
Firstly I have to say that the Staff are lovely and very tentative, however this being said the room I was given was cold, the bed made noises on every slight movement the bathroom had seen better days and the sink plug wasn't fit for purpose. I won't be staying here ever again and the only reason for the 2 rating was adding one for the breakfast staff who were lovely

"Poor effort all round "
So called deluxe room was cold, with a hard mattress, missing light bulb and peeling paint, tired decor and thin worn out towels. Continental breakfast awful, cheap nasty plastic cheese, packet pastries and scruffy table. Staff seemed disinterested and the whole atmosphere felt like no one cared

"O.K. Has improved."
This Hotel is better than the last time I stayed around 3 years ago. It has improved in relation to some aspects. The bed was much more comfortable than last time. My room was warm, and if small, was easy to heat up. The Hotel still does not serve food till 7pm at night. The Pub opposite is a bit limited so is not a very good alternative. I would say the Hotel is O.K/good but I did think the new refurbishment a little strange in some respects. The Shower is really poorly designed and much too small. Keeping the old heavy dark wood furniture of ugly dressing table and cupboard in a newly painted room seems very odd when you could re-design with a built in lighter coloured wardrobe and desk unit which would be more practical and aid the room from feeling so small and missing a desk. I advise, if like me, keeping warm is vital, that you ring ahead and ask them to put the heat on in your room before you arrive because the rooms are not heated before arrival and take awhile to heat up.

"Overnight stay in Ipswich"
What a little gem this hotel is. Very clean, well equipped and nothing was too much trouble for the friendly and obliging staff. Our delux double room was very comfortable and having been recently refurbished everything was beautifully clean and fresh, especially the bathroom which had a superb power shower over the bath. Our even meal in the restaurant was excellent with the menu offering a good selection of dishes. The breakfast too also was excellent. The hotel is only a few minutes away from Ipswich and provides an excellent base if you are visit the area. Overall I would not hesitate to recommend the Best Western Claydon and my only regret was our stay was for a single night.

"Not sure about this one...!"
We stayed at this hotel over the 2017 Christmas period from 24 - 27 Dec. When we arrived (Christmas Eve) the disabled alarm bell was going off and the poor member of staff (there were only 2 members of staff on duty that night!) was frantically trying to deal with that and the incoming guests (more people arrived as we waited for the problem to be sorted). Eventually we were given a room but as soon as we entered it, we didn't like it and so asked for another room which was bigger, which we were given. The new room, 207, was upstairs (there's no lift that we could see) and we were informed that it was one of their "newly refurbished" rooms so we thought it would be great to stay in there. It was only slightly bigger than the other room but we decided to accept it. Issues with the room: THE BATHROOM: the shower was just a dribble and not at all hot, the water was very cool even on the hottest temp; the bathroom door where the handle was there was a gap between the handle and the door that you could see right through from one room to the other, they clearly hadn't filled the gap properly; the plastic glasses that we were given, one of them was broken and didn't hold water (we didn't find this out until we were brushing our teeth and about to take our tablets!); there was only one bath towel in the bathroom, we found the other one in the wardrobe in the bedroom! The toilet roll holder fell off the wall at least twice whilst we were there and my husband fixed it back on but it needs looking at. BEDROOM: All looked well at first but it wasn't long before we wanted to recharge our mobile phones only to find that there was only one plug in the room and it was in a very awkward and difficult place to get to. It was under the desk, in fact behind the desk. So we had to move the desk and go under it to get to the plug. Not nice and certainly not customer friendly. The desk cannot be used to sit at as you cannot get your knees under the desk whether you use the piano stool provided or the only other chair in the room. There is a very large mirror on the desk which gets in the way of using the desk to place your own items on and we had to manipulate and manhandle the mirror in order to create space on the desk. The room was dusty in various parts where dusting should have been carried out (e.g. the top of the bed). The wardrobe in the room was very large and when we opened it the door swung open and started to fall off its hinges. All the hinges were very poorly installed and throughout our stay the wardrobe doors would intermittently open. The magnetic holder inside was broken too which didn't help. The hangers were a disgrace. There were plastic flowers in the room which were awful. I don't know why these were there as they were not needed and a total waste of time. The floor boards creaked a lot especially by the window side of the bed and between the bathroom and bedroom. There were a few other silly things wrong with the room not worth mentioning however the hotel has to look at it's safety advice on the back of the door. The room map shows that you turn right when you leave the room in the event of a fire but when you leave the room the door on the LEFT says its a fire exit and as this is the nearest fire exit then you should be using that as an escape route. Before I left the hotel I gave them a long list of my complaints and the things I found wrong with the room but to date have not heard from them about it. THE GOOD THINGS ABOUT THIS HOTEL: the staff were very nice and friendly during our stay - we can't fault them. The food was also good. We had breakfast and Christmas dinner (which was very nice and filling). Great car parking facility, easy to get in and out. If you are staying in this hotel it's about 15 minutes away from Ipswich.

"Great Staff, Great Food "
Just a very quick note on the stay : A very quiet place during Xmas and NYE but anybody, especially Sam and Night Auditor were fabulous. On arrival I came very early but room was ready and had help from one of the housekeeper who checked the room before letting me in. Thanks. Questions asked at reception when checking in : like being interviewed with no real interest. Only very few customers at the hotel that night but still there are ways to say things. I forgot : food is really fab ! Well cooked, well presented, good choice. Thank you Sam for the desert !! Thank you . David

"Our best Christmas away"
Just returned from our best Christmas break. The staff were both friendly, welcoming and helpful, nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The food was excellent with a very good selection on offer, and always cooked to order, including the English breakfast each morning. Christmas Eve we dined in the conservatory restaurant, this was specially decorated for Christmas, with much attention to the little details. Christmas lunch itself was five courses and served in a very tasteful dining room, both food and atmosphere being first class. Well done to everyone who made our Christmas so very special. Should also mention that the free WiFi was very good at all times and the water was hot. A big thank You to you all, will see you again soon Val & Dennis (Room 209)

"Refurbished rooms"
A short notice booking for a family event and it turned out to be a booking for four rooms -which were in the older part of the building. All the rooms had been recently refurbished. The comfortable bed was enormous - which made the room seem smaller, but was perfectly adequate for a two night stay. The ensuite had wc and shower, again newly refurbished and the only problem we encountered as low water pressure in the shower. I raised this with the Reception and they assured me this was being address with the installation of pumps. I understand the mains supply pipes have been changed leading to the pressure problems. There as free parking and free, fast wifi. Location is very near to Ipswich, but the rooms were very quiet leading to a good nights sleep. We didn't eat at the hotel, but would be very happy to stay here again.

"Comfortable room, very nice staff, basic facilities"
We received a lovely, friendly greeting on arrival and were directed to our room. It was freezing because, for energy-saving reasons, you can't have the heat on until you get there. That's quite a good thing, but it was awkward to work and rather slow. The room was very small but comfortable. The bathroom was extremely basic - a container of generic soapy stuff was screwed to the wall behind the shower screen so, when we'd just arrived, and again before we left, when I wanted to wash my hands, there was no soap. I really didn't like that. Breakfast was very good with lots of choices and, again, the staff were lovely. Good value for money.

"Small Room & Lumpy Bed"
This hotel would do for a one-night stay, but would not be suitable for a longer break. Our room was extremely small and also the bathroom. The bed was lumpy and very creaky. As said earlier there is ample parking and we were not aware of any noise from the A14, although as it was winter the window was closed. However, the staff are very friendly and the breakfast was very good.

"Best Western, Best yet."
Having travelled extensively and often used Best Western I have learned that all things vary and hotels are no exception. My wife and I stayed here for a weekend break and shared a standard double room. Downside, if it was one, the extremely comfortable bed was so large it almost filled the room. Great nights sleep. There was also no room for any chairs and there were no bedside lamps. So much for the negatives. Positives, it was certainly the cleanest and best maintained room we have used in any short stay hotel. I can't praise it highly enough for that 'brand new' feeling. Not a spec of dust or a thread out of place. Decor, drapes and carpet as new. Bathroom tiling, fixtures and fittings the same. Must have first class housekeeping staff as well as top rate supervision. It felt as if we were the very first to use the room. En suite was immaculate and comfortable with sparkling clean shower. All consumables replenished daily with tea, coffee, milk and biscuits. Staff and management were helpful, cheerful and friendly. Sarah Jane on reception supplied us with local information, sat nav post codes and sorted the WiFi. The bar menu is varied and caters for most tastes but we chose the 'Fine dining' menu in the restaurant. The food was well prepared, varied and delicious. All courses arrived promptly brought in by efficient and well trained staff. In the mornings breakfast in the restaurant area was brought in hot on request and there was a great variety of cold options along with hot toast and fruit. Dining room was well set out and comfortable with plenty of room. Outside there is adequate parking to the rear and easy access including ramp. Location is very good within easy reach of the town and main roads. All in all our experience there was far above average. Top marks to Frankie the manager who went well out of his way on every occasion to ensure our comfort and satisfaction.

"A Hotel......a Vicarage or a Care Home?......It needs a Makeover soon!!"
I stayed here recently on Business and agree with previous comments that it may call itself a country house hotel on the internet but it isn't, really. It's a short-stay, overnight kind of place suitable for businessmen and women and those needing somewhere to rest their head for one night if they're going to a wedding nearby. It's easier if I list the pros and cons, based on my experience: Pros: easy to get to, near the A14. Convenient for Ipswich, Stowmarket and Suffolk generally. Very friendly, welcoming staff who are happy to deal with any problems professionally and with courtesy. The food is of a pretty high standard: the buffet breakfast is excellent and you can tell it uses locally source produce and is really good quality. The hotel is very clean and tidy with plenty of freshly-painted surfaces and good carpeting. Free daily newspaper of your choice. Air-con throughout, including bedroom. Card entry to room. The cons: the hotel appears to be in a 'Timewarp' and by design and operation, and needs a makeover desperately, the decor outdated follows through into the bedrooms. There is even a 'Stannah Stair lift' from the Bar/Reception area to a lower area for access to the rooms, quaint but also gives it that 'dated and ageism' feel The bar area, which is next to reception, is small and not conducive to relaxation. The restaurant is situated in the original part of the house, with high ceilings, cornices and panelling. However, with its dark blue carpet and black tables and chairs the room feels dull and old-fashioned. In the rooms I stayed in, the bed was uncomfortable and the Air Con unit is right beneath the window and was poor in operation. In reality Best Western needs to give this place a 21st centre makeover. As a customer, if you need somewhere for one night, the Claydon Hotel is fine, but a longer stay could be tiresome.

Dear Mr T, Thank you for taking the time to fill in the customer review. Throughout the past 8 months the hotel has rebranded its name to Best Western Claydon Hotel, it has also been in the process of major refurbishment to our falsities with an on-going program in place. Unfortunately the Stannah Stair lift at the bottom to the stairs is a welcome relief to customers with disabilities or less fortunate than ourselves. We are sorry on this occasion we did not meet with all your expectations, however I hope once our refurbishments are completed you will consider using us again in the future, many thanks. Yours sincerely Frank Manners - Operations Manager
"Tired decor, lumpy matress, friendly staff, food ok, service slow."
Would stay here again , it's good value, but the mattress in my room was terrible. I could feel the springs, it was very uncomfortable. Room small but adequate for one night. Food was good, but service slow. Friendly staff. Tired decor.

"Pensioners away day"
Hotel was clean, parking was reasonable for size of hotel, reception staff where friendly, room wasn't as big as expected from photographs though of an adequate size. Bed was comfortable, room was quiet, hairdryer wasn't worth having in room. Stayed for two nights but only had breakfast on last morning, which turned out to be a mistake as it was well presented and of a good standard, with hindsight should have had it both days!!

"A complete wedding package and they gave us and our guests a wonderful experience"
From the very first meeting to our fantastic wedding day, the whole team have been brilliant. We had our ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening celebrations here. The food was stunning, a traditional roast beef dinner and apple pie for the breakfast and quality buffet for the evening. Friendly, knowledgeable staff throughout the entire experience, they couldn't have been more helpful to us or our guests. With 100 guests during the wedding and 12 rooms booked for the night, everyone has completed the staff, the venue and the food. So very very pleased with the Claydon Country House Hotel. Thank you.

"A comfortable, quiet reasonably priced hotel"
The hotel is situated just off the busy A14 but is unbelievably quiet and peaceful. We had a room at the back (#114) which overlooks the overflow car park and we had a lovely night's sleep in a large, comfortable bed. The price was very reasonable and the room well furnished. The staff were extremely pleasant and friendly and the breakfast featured a very good selection of hot and cold foods. Being so near to junction 52 of the A14 it is very easy to get to and there is a large car park at the rear.

"Be selective..."
It's a while since I've used Best Western and I'm away alot on business. I have read previous reviews and maybe I was lucky. I had a good sized room, on the top floor away from the road which may be worth remembering. I could open the windows and there was air conditioning in the room. The staff were refreshingly friendly and cheerful. I ate in the restaurant both evenings - the fresh fish trio was perfectly cooked and well presented. I would definitely stay here again.

"richard"
Rooms small, cracked basin in bathroom, only one bedside light other person gets up for toilet in the dark, hair drier / kettle socket under dressing table hard to reach, stairs in my opinion dangerous. Advertised as full English breakfast, limited buffet only, with just scrambled eggs not offered boiled, fried or poached had to ask. Just grapefruit, hot dishes were not being replenished. no sausages, kitchen had to go shop for fresh supply. Rooms need noise insulation could hear talking through walls, and snoring!

"Birthday surprise "
I have just returned from an overnight visit to the Claydon Hotel which I booked as a birthday surprise for my wife. Having read some of the reviews I wasn't sure what to expect but I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Having arrived early we were offered complimentary drinks while we waited for our room to be prepared. Throughout our stay the staff were friendly and attentive without being in our faces. The room was adequate for our needs and for the price. The food, for both the evening meal and for breakfast, was beyond our expectations. I can fully understand why they have awards for their meals. And the icing on the cake-my wife thoroughly enjoyed her birthday surprise. Needless to say I would recommend this hotel to everyone
"Handy location for the main roads A14, A140 and A12"
Pleasant hotel, clean and with well-mannered staff. Large car park but with a difficult exit onto the road. We were lucky to have a room at the back with hardly any road noise. Although we stayed 3 nights, we didn't experience any food there. We found it impossible to access their pre-booked special rates on line and had to book through the head office. There is a well-stocked village shop / off licence and post office nearly opposite, with two pubs within walking distance too. At least one of the pubs does food most of the day.
"Isolated"
A reasonable hotel in Suffolk but the rooms are too hot to sleep cannot open windows due to road noise. The shower was very weak and went hot and cold when ever someone elsd turned a tap on. In my room the free wifi was non existent. The staff were pleasant though.
"Great service, shame about the appearance"
Booked this hotel at the last minute as the reviews seemed OK. Sadly, it may call itself a country house hotel on the internet but it isn't, really. It's a short-stay, overnight kind of place suitable for businessmen and women and those needing somewhere to rest their head for one night if they're going to a wedding nearby. It's easier if I list the pros and cons, based on my experience: Pros: easy to get to, near the A14. Convenient for Ipswich and Suffolk generally. Very friendly, welcoming staff who are happy to deal with any problems professionally and with courtesy. We asked to change our room and they were very helpful and accommodating, especially considering we rejected one choice they offered. The food is of a pretty high standard: the buffet breakfast is excellent while the evening meal menu offers restaurant-style food that is nicely prepared and looks good on the plate. We didn't try the bar snacks but there was plenty on offer. A large car park provided plenty of parking spaces. The hotel is very clean and tidy with plenty of freshly-painted surfaces and good carpeting. Free daily newspaper of your choice. Air-con throughout, including bedroom. Card entry to room. The cons: the hotel appears to be very much stuck in a 1980s design time warp, with dado rails, contrasting wall colours everywhere (red and cream), matching red carpets, generic pictures and lampshades etc. This decor follows through into the bedrooms. The bar area, which is next to reception, is small and not conducive to relaxation. The restaurant is situated in the original part of the house, with high ceilings, cornices and panelling. However, with its dark blue carpet and black tables and chairs the room feels dull and old-fashioned. In the two rooms we stayed in, the beds were either lumpily uncomfortable or saggy and the quilt didn't fit over the edge of the bed, a real problem for a couple. Our bedroom was classed as deluxe but was in fact small, cramped and tired. The bathroom was fine, though. Public toilets are rather dated. In conclusion, Best Western needs to give this place a 21st centre makeover. As a customer, if you need somewhere for one night, the Claydon Hotel is fine, but a longer stay might tax your patience.
"Wedding reception 22/07/2017"
Had our wedding reception here, would like to thank Frankie,Tracey & team for a wonderful day everything went so well from start to finish. The service and food through out the day was perfect and our guests couldn't agree more, a special thanks from Neil & Karen.
"Business 2 Night Stay"
Very helpful check in staff. I booked the wrong nights and they came to the rescue. Evening meals are always very good. It is a shame that more guests do not use the restaurant. Ideally located just outside Ipswich not far from major road links. I have stayed here several times before, so it is a credit to the staff that they always make you feel welcome.
"Nice place to stay"
Best Western have their standards and this hotel exceeds them. The food is excellent and the staff are so helpful and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble and they always make you feel welcome. They think of things to make your stay more pleasant and then say "Would you like .... " A very pleasant place to stay when you spend half your life living in hotels!

"Disappointment "
What should have been a nice 3 day break was a disaster. Best western hotels are supposed to have personality. This place had no personality whatsoever. We had a decent meal on the first night. The third night we thought we would eat in the restaurant again. What a disaster after a hour and 20 minutes we were presented with a plate of undercooked food. We both ordered rump of lamb. The plate was swimming with blood. After been left with no apologies for the delays being totally ignored for the duration we walked out of the restaurant and retired to our room. Went to bed Hungry. The bedroom was very small and cramped. As a diamond member of Best western hotels I thought some sort of effort could have been shown to make our stay more pleasurable. I can honestly say this is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. I would certainly not recommend this hotel to anybody.

"Amazing 3 course dinner"
We went for lunch for our 16th wedding anniversary with my mum and dad and we really enjoyed it. The staff were polite and accommodating and the food was A1 really have no complaints at all and can't praise the chef highly enough for putting on a wonderful food menu and making us jam sponges even though they were not on the menu - a BIG thank you from all of us, we hope to be back soon.

"Pleasant Room/Service, Internet not the best"
The good points: 1) Really friendly staff, a credit to the business 2) Nice compact room with a lovely warm shower and amenities (including custard creams!) 3) A decent work station with chair and a well lit room, with a HD TV mounted in the corner 4) Breakfast made to order, I had the poached eggs on toast with beans - it was served very promptly, it was very tasty. I especially liked the fresh orange on offer Just a couple of grumbles: 1) The internet coverage is pretty weak, which made it difficult to complete my days work on the night. It was typically 1 bar out of 5 and kept dropping off and reconnecting so was a bit of an inconvenience 2) The room (despite the air con) was roasting at times - even with the air con turned right down. 3) No bath (which is a personal choice, so let this slide if you're not bothered about it!) 4) The towels are very starchy! All in all though a good hotel, fix the internet coverage and I will be back again!

"So Disappointing!!!!"
Having booked Bed & Breakfast using Tesco Clubcard Vouchers we arrived to be told we had booked room only. Luckily I had printed the receipt to show B&B was what we had booked. NOT a great start... We were put into room 207. To say we were disappointed with the room would be an understatement!!!!!! You could write your name in the dust on the mirror on the dresser. The bed was 2 singles pushed together. The mattresses were appalling, the bed creaked with any movement... The bathroom was clean but had the worst shower I have ever come across!! The shower tray had a curtain round it but the water pressure was woefully poor more like a drip than a shower. This is without doubt the most disappointing BW hotel room we have encountered on our travels and not one to be repeated.

"Run down, poor customer service, not VFM."
Just returned from an overnight stay here, we booked and paid for a Deluxe Double Room, we were given a standard room, had to complain, other couple who travelled with us stayed were charged for drinks they did not have, neither issue was dealt with in the correct manner. Rooms are rather small, only one bath towel, taps did not turn off, breakfast was OK though, service without a smile, scrambled eggs in heated tray, we were not offered alternatives fried/poached. At £88/night for B&B is poor value.

"Good location but noisy room"
Stayed for a couple of nights, the Saturday was fine, apart from the curtains in the room which are very light, but on the Sunday there was a birthday party on. Unfortunately, my room was directly above the function room so I heard everything which wasn't good as I was trying to get an early night. I ended up wandering downstairs and "gatecrashing" the party, on the premise that if you can't beat them, join them. Having said that, the couple whose party it was were very accommodating and made me welcome, so all was not lost, and the music stopped at exactly 11 PM, so not too late really. On a brighter not, the staff at this place are excellent, nothing too much trouble for them, and I will be staying again.
"OK for a night's sleep - FLAKY WiFi!"
Admittedly I was tired when I arrived but although my mobile hooked up quickly it kept dropping out, which was very frustrating! My laptop, usually excellent at registering on hotel WiFi, refused to make contact. The bar didn't look very inviting, fizzy beer only, so I gave up and went to sleep early. Next morning I chose not to have the £10 breakfast so Macdonald's down the road was was perfect for coffee and WiFi! Parking was excellent and the location was very convenient for the main roads. Staff were friendly and welcoming as in all BW hotels so it probably would be much better when things go well.
"Pleasant, quiet stay......"
Hotel in excellent village location, close to the A 14 trunk road, had a good rate having booked a winter saver price for a double deluxe room with breakfast, room and bathroom comfortable and very clean, a powerful and easily adjustable shower, good selection of TV channels, a good nights sleep was had, breakfast on the sunday was cooked fresh to order, on Monday was self-service buffet, nice, well cooked food, friendly staff, very large car park, plus overflow parking if needed, would I stay again ?.........most definitely !
"Mother's Day lunch"
Went for a Mother's Day lunch with the family. The service was very friendly and made sure we were comfortable. The food was a very good standard and reasonably priced! They had a special Mother's Day menu on offer. Would recommend and return.
"Weekend away Friendly staff "
To celebrate our 21st Wedding anniversary we decided to book a weekend away at Best Western, Claydon. On arrival we Found the car park to be spacious, we were greeted by friendly staff at reception. We booked a breakfast for our first morning arriving near the end of the servicing period, there were no issues with staff being more than happy to help. The food was fantastic with a good selection on display. The stay was great and the only criticism we had was the bed, it was so uncomfortable. The room was tidy clean and up to date. Recommend the crown over the road, it's a hungry horse, the food there is great.
"Great"
On arrival we were glad to find ample parking ,when we entered the hotel we were greated by a very nice and professional receptionist. The hotel is very clean throughout ,the food is of a very good standard...Had a great stay and the staff were very friendly
"In a village!"
This hotel although billed as in Ipswich it is miles away from the town. it is only a very small hotel and not disabled friendly as it accessed by steps. The bedroom we were allocated was incredibly old fashioned and shabby. The bar is part of the small reception area and manned part time by anyone passing!. The small restaurant is lovely, the Manager who served us was very nice and the dinner was excellent from a very varied menu. The breakfast was also very good but was grudgingly served by a sullen young lady who demonstrated that she really did not want to be there or to serve people.
"Paper thin walls."
I did'nt get a great night sleep. The walls between rooms are way to thin!! Hearing the lady next door goto the loo and also hearing a guy snoring from somewhere else is not great. This place needs an update - it's very shabby.
"Budget hotel which could do with updating. Friendly staff and a decent breakfast though."
I stayed here midweek whilst travelling on business. Check in staff were friendly and helpful. I stayed in a downstairs double room (two single beds pushed together) the room itself was ok but maybe a little scruffy. The worst thing however is the old creaky floorboards and lack of sound insulation from the room upstairs. If you want an early night you better hope you don't get a room downstairs as you can here every movement from the room above..... Probably the worst hotel I have stayed in from that perspective.
"Past its best Western "
We stayed here on a Saturday night and I had booked an "Executive" room When I got to the room it was fairly small, dimly lit and quite dated. So much so that I phoned reception to see if I was in an upgraded room! Apparently we were in an executive room but I would think in name only I went down to see what was on the bar or restaurant menu and was told (at about 6pm) that the dinner menu was just being finalised which seemed rather late not to have it available in my experience We ordered room service and when the food arrived we discovered that my main was missing and my partners "well done" steak was cooked rare. I phoned down and they replaced the food but waiting for it to be put right rather put us off. When the food arrived it was OK at best but not worth the money charged All in all a rather dated hotel which charges more than it is worth and seems to now mainly cater for weddings
"Business stay"
Myself and a colleague stayed here for one night it was good value for money, really nice breakfast, friendly staff. The bathroom had fantastic water pressure, clean and tidy rooms a nice basic hotel.

"Good staff but strange layout"
The reception staff are nice but the bar and lounge area are right by the desk so you hear all of the staff chatter and gossip. The bar is also in this area so it lacks atmosphere but the breakfast was good. We walked up to a pub called the Sorrel Horse (I think), it was quite a hike but worth it, the pub and food was good there.

"Service needs improving"
I visited on a Friday night with a party of four, and the first two courses were good but the sweets of bakewell tart were a let down they were as hard as a rock and did not resemble a bakewell tart. The manager offered his apologies from the chef, but the damage was done. Service could certainly be improved, the wine was plonked on the table not opened, and we were not asked if the wine met our approval,at the end of the evening we were not asked if we required coffee. The evening is advertised as fine dining ,but it certainly didnt have fine service. A crash course is required for the staff.
"Recommended"
We had never stayed at a Best Western and we would definitely stay there again. The staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful. The service at breakfast was good and the breakfast itself excellent. We especially liked the smart foyer and bar, and the conservatory. The room was fine and the bed comfortable with air conditioning which was a boon as there were record temperatures that week. Having Wi Fi for 2 devices was a bonus. We would like to suggest a mat to prevent slipping in the bath when showering and maybe a grab handle. Otherwise very satisfied with an enjoyable stay. Thanks to all who contributed.
"Great stay"
This is a lovely hotel and we have had a great stay. We booked the Queen Room which is gorgeous and has lots of space. Both the room and bathroom were clean and well presented. The bed is comfy and spacious. The breakfast in the morning was tasty. The staff here have been very welcoming and helpful especially Carmen on reception when we first arrived. If we are ever in the area again and need a hotel this is where we will stay.
"Wonderful staff - shame about the building and decor"
Our first impression of the Claydon Country House Hotel was so disappointing, Tired and dated decor throughout - what a pity as the staff were so wonderful. They deserve a better environment in which to continue to provide their high standards of service. Every member of staff we came in contact with was helpful, friendly and keen to be of assistance, especially Tina on reception. We stayed for bed and breakfast and the food was very good.
"Run down but good food"
I had booked a deluxe room and was absolutely convinced that the room I had been given could not be deluxe. Premier Inn has more creature comforts. Best Western Claydon does good food and the staff are all really nice.
"Wedding Anniversay Weekend"
Enjoyable one night stay. Plenty of parking. Hotel room was very clean but the main reception area would benefit from an upgrade . Our evening meal was excellent and we particularly liked eating in the conservatory. The breakfast was also of good quality.

"Average rooms but outstanding food"
The hotel itself could do with a bit of modernisation but the food makes up for it. The quality and flavours were perfect and the staff are lovely. I returned here for a special occasion meal and I was impressed with the whole meal. The menu is small because everything is freshly made. I would recommended.

"Poor Sevice"
The room was not serviced and no apology was received when mentioned at checkout. Totally unacceptable when paying £125 a night. The bed was uncomfortable and being on the front of the hotel the traffic noise in the morning was a bit loud. Continental breakfast choice was poor but cooked breakfast was ok. On the plus side the room was a good size and nice traditional furniture.

"Staff disinterested in guests"
Was totally ignored by the desk staff and had to wade my way through waiting staff in the lobby to get to the desk. Had to call reception 3 times before getting an answer on my room service being 45 mins late, then the food was tepid and not that nice. Very disappointed as always stay at Best Western hotels. Won't be visiting this one again!!

"Cool Night on a hot day - service ok"
We booked a room with air conditioning which was a good thing as it was a rather warm day. Room was just about the right size with en-suite bath/shower, toilet and washbasin. View of overflow car park and garden. Arrived at 16:00 but could only get sandwiches for food- nothing else was available until after 19:00. A wedding reception was taking place but thankfully this ceased at 11:30 so quite quiet during the night. We were advised to get breakfast early but this turned out to be unnecessary as the wedding party were up later! Managed to do us some freshly poached eggs for breakfast so plus marks there - the rest of the serve yourself breakfast was so-so. It's not really set in the country despite its name as Claydon Village is all around the hotel which is right on the crossroads in the village. Very close to a fish and chip shop and a pub. So alternatives for meals were available. We didn't eat the evening meal at the hotel so cannot comment on that. We were disappointed that the entrance was up steps and then down again to the rooms. This should be mentioned on the booking site so customers are aware. Thankfully as it was warm the next day the side door was open so we were able to leave via the level exit. The bed was comfortable without being impressive and as we were supposed to be in a deluxe room, I would hate to see the size of a normal room. All in all, it was an OK place to stay without giving us anything to go wow about. It was functional and serviceable- that's all. The room for the night included breakfast in the cost so it was a reasonable deal.

"A very poor experience "
First things first, this is NOT a Country House hotel. It is a hotel on a main road in a village near 2 pubs and a One Stop. The car park is congested with cars parked at all angles, the overflow car park is out the back past the bins and other discarded detritus. The 2 receptionists were friendly and efficient and check in was fine. The room was ok, clean and functional. I ate in the restaurant and the food and service was good. The salmon main course was advertised as poached - which it was, but there was no mention of the creamy sauce it came with. At about 10.30pm, all hell seemed to break loose when it sounded like 2 or 3 men were fighting in one of the other rooms. The walls are so thin it sounded like they were about to crash through. I think they were just drunk and falling over. However, as the hotel seems to cater for workers, it is very male dominant and I would think any lone female guests would feel intimidated. My wife travels a lot for work and I know she wouldn't be comfortable here. The mattress was poor and seemed to be very cheap - worse than a Travelodge! The shower was a mere dribble with the water temperature constantly switching between scalding hot and freezing cold. The breakfast was a buffet affair with tea and toast served to you. It was your typical 'Bain marie' hotel breakfast with rubbery scrambled egg and dry bacon. No option of baked beans or fried egg. Check out was fine. The over-arching lasting impression of this hotel though is the smell of fried food that permeates throughout. It smells like a 1980s Little Chef. This is in all areas of the hotel. At £90 for a night, I'm afraid I couldn't recommend it to anyone!

Thank you for your review of Claydon and we are sorry that there seems to be so many things that were not to your liking. This is a busy hotel and we are sorry that you were disturbed by other guests, this is not something we can really control but night porter or reception staff try their best to speak to noisy guests quickly so as to keep noise issues to the minimum. We cater for guests from all areas of business and will not tolerate bullish behaviour, so as soon as we are aware we would deal with issues quickly. I will of course check to see which room you occupied and check all of the things you have highlighted in your review. At breakfast when we are serving buffet hot food, alternative eggs, beans etc. are available on request from the waitress and I apologise if this was not offered to you on this occasion. We do apologise that we did not meet with your expectations on this occasion. Kind regards Heather Billing- Operations Manager
"Grim!"
I spend around 100 nights a year in hotels so I think I have some experience. I have a Best Western Diamond card also. We stayed here for 1 night. The pros - heated underfloor heating in the bathroom and free wifi...............The cons - totally disinterested staff, dull, old fashioned pokey room with a superb view of a wall and fence. The noisiest hotel I have ever stayed at - you can hear every movement from every room above and to the side. We booked 6 months in advance and paid £99 for which, despite my loyalty, we got no breakfast, not even a newspaper. Certainly the worst value hotel I have stayed in for years.
BWClaydonHotel, Manager at BEST WESTERN Claydon Country House Hotel, responded to this review
We are sorry you were unhappy with your stay, sadly there was no option to upgrade you on this occasion as the hotel was fully booked. There are not as standard, free newspapers as part of the rewards membership anymore and never has been a complimentary breakfast offered as part of that rewards scheme.. However if I had known that you were so unhappy during your stay I would most certainly have offered you a complimentary breakfast,. As far as I am aware you did not give us any feedback at the time of your stay. The team here are usually so friendly and helpful to all guests that I am really disappointed to hear that you thought they were disinterested. You did book a standard twin room which is what the system allocated for you, as a diamond member you would automatically qualify for an upgrade - subject to availability. There was however a large booking which had been pre-booked for over 12 months for a wedding which was being held locally, so as I mentioned previously there was no option for us to do this. I can only apologise on behalf of the hotel and the team that we did not meet with your expectations. Kind regards Heather Billing - Operations Manager
"A pleasant stay"
I stayed in this hotel for 1 night whilst on a business trip that was off the beaten track (Debenham, Suffolk). The staff were extremely helpful and friendly - in fact, on arrival the receptionist seemed to know my name, which was a nice touch! Having not stayed in a Best Western before, I was not sure what to expect but the room was comfortable, clean and everything functioned! I even got biscuits which other hotels have seemed to have discarded of!
"Bursta11"
A nice stop off to break your journey and very convenient, staff were all very helpful really could not find anything to criticise. In fact I left my phone charger behind and called back after our break and it was kindly returned to me so good service all round. Many thanks Best Western, at Claydon.
BWGatehouse, Manager at BEST WESTERN Claydon Country House Hotel, responded to this review
many thanks for your feedback we are delighted you had a good stay and are reunited with your charger! Kind regards Heather Billing Operations Manager Claydon and the Gatehouse Hotels.
"Don't do it !"
Many of the reviews comment on the tired and out dated look of this establishment it was for that reason I decided to throw caution to the wind and pay the extra for a superior room. Trust me there is nothing superior about there rooms To be honest if it hadn't been given that title and the extra price tag I would not have minded so much. When I asked what made it superior I was told it was in the newer extension. It wasn't the quality of the furnishing or the finish of the room and certainly not the bed. I thought perhaps the double bed was made up of two singles pushed together from the noticeable dip in the middle . On closer inspection that wasn't the case it was just an old cheap bed that's collapsing in the centre The air conditioning was not working properly The 1970s furnishings had seen much better days. The cheap shower gel/hair shampoo in a single large bottle fixed to the wall wasn't to the normal best western standard and certainly nothing superior about it. I decided my back just wouldn't take the awful bed and was offered the only other available room a single. This room had lots in common with the other, but the bed did seem a little better perhaps that was because it was so small . The room was compact with a view of a brick wall. The electrics were frankly unsafe a kettle with an extension lead hanging down the side of the desk that could easily pull the kettle and its contents down. But to me the worst thing was the damp wall behind the curtains that brought on an asthmatic attack in the middle of the night. I have photographs of this and other disgraceful parts of theroom . I am frankly shocked that this standard is acceptable to the owners and to the Best Western brand . There needs to be some money spent on this hotel and until the owners do they need to remove the shameful misrepresentation in describing anything as superior as the best title would be basic .
"Good and bad"
Starting with the good points, car parking, free wi-if, good service at reception (although found it strange we had to pay before we stayed!), good breakfast, good service at breakfast (had to ask for toast), excellent shower, plenty of hot water. The bad....... The most important thing you want from a hotel is a decent room, a comfortable bed and pillows . This hotel did not provide any of those and I paid for an upgrade to superior room. If that's superior I would hate to stay in the standard. The bed, was TERRIBLE. The mattress was extremely uncomfortable and the pillows! Well I wouldn't put them in our dog basket for him to use! This hotel needs to either renew their beds or if money is tight put some memory foam toppers on the beds! Also need to chuck all pillows and pay a visit to Dunelm!
"Small but homely"
This venue was home to a wedding reception I attended. I booked two rooms for my wife and I and our children. The rooms are quite small and a little dated but provide a sufficient resting place. We were situated in two rooms that were a little stretched for sunlight but never the less they were comfortable and functional. The staff here were very accommodating and the facilities were adequate. Breakfast was included and again was acceptable although it could have done with replenishment a little quicker. The quality of the produce was excellent unlike some of the other 'chain' hotels that provide a similar buffet style breakfast. All in all a pleasant stay in a venue that probably doesn't get such a large influx of people in one go as a rule but they coped well and provided a competent and satisfactory service for a reasonable priceYou get what you pay for and here we got exactly that. Very happy with the whole experience and refreshing to find English staff that actually were happy to provide a service that is usually reserved for foreign staff in the hospitality industry.
"Nice Friendly Hotel"
This hotel always produces good value for money, the rooms are clean and tidy even if they do need a little refurbishment. The food is always excellent and they can accommodate people with special dietary requirements
"Good base outside Ipswich"
Stayed for 2 nights. Food is very good (and welcome after travelling from Scotland) Ensuite Room at the back in the new extension was adequate size, clean and modern. Car parking area was easily accessible. Breakfast was well worth it, huge quantity available and absolutely great. Evening menu is well balanced and food was delicious, well prepared, good quantity. Chef is the owner and it shows in the care with which the food is cooked and presented. This hotel is on the village main street close to the A road system outside Ipswich but still quiet enough to be country. It is a large old Victorian style house with a new wing with function room and a large rooms extension at the back.
"A mixed bag"
For a one night getaway to celebrate my brthday this hotel wasn't bad. On the positives: some of the staff were friendly and efficient at their job. The meal in the restaurant on Saturday night was delicious and it was good to hear that the menu is done daily and all fresh ingredients are used. The smells coming from the kitchen were great. On the downside; the double bed is actually 2 singles joined together meaning their is quite a big dip and ridge along the centre. If you want to actually get close to your partner, this is very uncomfortable to lay on. Also one of the beds was old and dipped quite heavily making it extremely uncomfortable to sleep on and my partner had a sore back the next day. The response from the reception was polite but totally disconnected-it was obvious at her lack of care about the issue. We did not get an apology at all.
"Dissappointing!!!"
Having visited on numerous occasions before and always been totally satisfied, we were left very dissappointed on our last visit. Service was awful, slow, not enough staff present, Beef tough, couldn't cut it. Vegetables inedible. We believe the usual chef and experienced waiting staff were. not there that day and it definately showed.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your lunch at Claydon in December. As you will know from your previous experiences here this is most certainly not the normal feedback we would receive for our very popular Sunday lunch service; I can only apologise on behalf of the team that things were not to your liking on this occasion. Sadly as you did not post your review at the time it is now difficult for me to investigate what went wrong on this particular day. Once again on behalf of the entire team I am sorry that you had this experience. Kind regards Heather Billing Operations Manager
"Two Night Business Stay"
Handy location for the Ipswich area. Quiet on the second night, had a private restaurant experience to myself. Executive room is very nice. All of the staff were friendly and very professional. This will be a venue that I will stay in again when I am in the Suffolk area. The pub over the road is also a good place to be amongst locals.

"Not good"
Not what I was expecting. Positives...not many but free parking is good and tv was reasonable. Negatives..rooms really need upgrading, furniture old, bed was hard, shower was ridiculous much like a trickle but even then you have to be a contortionist to get beneath the tiny flow of water without banging yourself on the rusty shower caddy or shower door. No radiator in bathroom just an old floor fan heater fitted to the wall...! Wifi is poor. Bedroom noise from other rooms is dreadful, you needn't set an alarm because you'll hear everyone else's as well as them showering, talking and walking along the creaky corridors. Glad to leave and I won't return.

"Clayon best western oustanding"
Outstanding service especially from the manager David, stayed here over 1 month, would not to hesitate to come back. The food is superb along side the complimentary prices. The staff are friendly and always willing to help! Rooms are of high quality. Just an all round great hotel!

"Some of the best food in Suffolk"
I live in Claydon and have on several occasions visited the hotel restaurant. The food is the best in the area. Always well presented with a great taste. Prices are reasonable. The service is always good, Well worth a visit. Best to book in advance.

"An ideal location for those needing accommodation near Ipswich."
From the moment I chose to investigate the Claydon Country House Hotel and make a reservation to the moment I checked out after staying 2 nights, the staff were brilliant. The reservation process was smooth, the reception staff friendly and professional. The hotel is situated close to the junction on the A14, and directions provided were accurate and easy to follow. Considering the fact that the hotel is situated close to a busy thoroughfare, there was surprisingly little noise in the bedrooms when the windows were shut. The hotel is comfortable, and great value for money. The accommodation is clean and comfortable, and the food superb. All in all, a great place to stay. Thank you.

"Clean and very comfortable "
I stayed here for 2 nights on a work trip. Lovely hotel, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The bed was huge! Only do was that we had to wait ages for breakfast and we were in a rush. However, breakfast was beautiful and cooked fresh! Would highly recommend!
"Christmas get together"
My first Christmas meal this year was at this hotel with my wife and 46 friends who either belong to the Bixley Ramblers or are friends of. To a person all our meals were very good and the service excellent. The staff are very obliging and efficient. The food well presented, tasty and hot. We have eaten here before and will certainly return.

"Clean and comfortable but in need of a makeover"
Received a fine welcome on arrival and was made aware that the restaurant was to close shortly however made chef available Food was good quality at a very reasonable rate However the whole place is in need of much investment and bringing into the 21st century, I booked a superior room, which at best was basic, not what I would expect for a 3 star hotel Staff were excellent though

"An Excellent Stay"
The hotel was well appointed, but with personality - it wasn't like some other hotels which are more like comfortable prison blocks. The staff were very helpful, the rooms clean and comfortable, and there were several nice pubs in the immediate area. All in all, a very nice place to stay.

"Hotel Change"
My friend and I were supposed to stay at The Best Western near Ipswich, had a phone call whilst on our way to say that there was a problem with the hotel, and we were being booked in at The Claydon Country house hotel . We asked what the problem was at the other hotel, we really got no answer, no one seemed to know. Enjoyed a lovely meal In the evening. Room was comfortable, breakfast really good. We returned from a day out and the manager on that day was very helpful, said he would find out what the problem was at the other hotel. He enquired straight away ,there was a problem with the heating in the room.He said was everything ok and could he get anything for us.So helpful, rather different from the previous day when we got no answers and no one seemed concerned, did not get his name sadly, but very much appreciated by us.
BWGatehouse, Manager at BEST WESTERN Claydon Country House Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback, I remember that you had to come to Claydon but at the time you checked in I had just come on shift and really did not know the details of why the move was necessary. I apologise if this did not come across as being satisfactory customer service. We aim to provide the highest standards of service and if this was lacking on this occasion, I am truly sorry. I am pleased that in general you had a good stay and hope that you would use our services again in the future. KInd regards Operations Manager - Claydon and Gatehouse Hotels.
"Very nice"
This is a good Best Western hotel, there are some areas that old do with a little maintainence, however the hotel is clean and comfortable. I was pleased that they have rooms for clients who are physically impaired. The breakfast was outstanding as was the food we had. In addition I would like to mention the following members of staff by name as they deserve praise for their courtesy and the service they provided without question for my wife and I. Thank you Kelsey, Tina, Sophie and Phil. Thank you for making our weekend so memorable.

"Superb little hotel just off the A14"
I stayed here very briefly as I was travelling from the North West and making a drop off locally before continuing on to London. Nice and quiet despite proximity to A14. Lovely gardens surrounding the building lead to a clean bright reception. Night porter was lovely and friendly upon arrival and helped me get settled quickly despite a 3am arrival. Room was clean, airy and spacious enough, with a full bath in the en suite which was a nice touch. Breakfast was delicious and cooked to order, even took a request for fried bread! Would definitely recommend for business travellers or for nearby leisure.

"Smart"
Not a bad little hotel staff very helpful and polite. Just off the A14 near Ipswich with a few local shops nearby. Used a few times. Everywhere looked clean, my twin room (115) was spotless and a huge bathroom. A served breakfast was huge and very tasty. Best for a while as I work away from home all the time and use plenty of different accommodation. WiFi good, parking okay.

"A very pleasant stay"
The staff are what make this hotel. From the cheery, upbeat welcome we received at reception when we checked in quite late, to the young woman who could not have been more helpful about the best places to park in Ipswich when we left, the staff are a real credit to this place. I agree with other reviewers that it's a little tired round the edges, the sausages tasted very strange at breakfast and the rooms are definitely on the small side, but it was very well located for our visit to Ipswich the next day.
BWGatehouse, Manager at BEST WESTERN Claydon Country House Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you so much for your comments, I am pleased the team looked after you,. I will speak to chef regarding the sausages! We do continually make improvements to the hotel but I take your feedback seriously and will look for ways to improve the general ambience. Kind regards Heather Billing Operations Manager
"Business Overnight"
Good location not far from the A14. Not far from Ipswich. There are a couple of public houses that are near if you fancy a change of scenery. The food in the evening is very good, and the service is also of a high standard, Breakfast was also ok. Only small criticism was that the room was a bit on the cool side. The radiator was not on, and I am not sure if the air conditioner was working properly. Small issue that I am sure they will rectify. Noisy drain cover was the only thing that did disturb a nights sleep. Obviously this is beyond the control of the hotel.
BWGatehouse, Manager at BEST WESTERN Claydon Country House Hotel, responded to this review
We appreciate you taking the time to review the hotel and are pleased that overall you enjoyed your stay, Kind regards Heather Billing Operations Manager
"Motel not a hotel"
This is NOT a Country House Hotel! This is a motel with no facilities other than bedrooms and a public area which is Reception/Bar/Occasional seating, If the Head Chef is preparing your meal then it is excellent, if tardy, (ie. Book the Early 7pm sitting, or you will still be waiting at 8pm!) If you are relying on his understudy then I suggest you nip next door to the chippy! There is no tennis court and the gardens consist of a small lawned area with a couple of picnic tables! The hotel Directory offers you a bathrobe, but there aren't any! The so called 'Deluxe' rooms are just an average hotel room, the other rooms are tiny boxes. How Best Western have given their approval to this 'Hotel' is beyond me! Having said that, Tina, the Receptionist is great, as is the chambermaid and the Head Chef, pity the owners push them to the limits rather than employing more staff.
BWGatehouse, Manager at BEST WESTERN Claydon Country House Hotel, responded to this review
Well I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay. We do not advertise that we have any leisure facilities, i.e. tennis courts etc. Bathrobes are available on request along with slippers and this is clearly noted in the guest directory, a quick call to reception would have provided you with these. All our food is cooked freshly here at the hotel and sadly this does sometimes mean a wait if the restaurant is busy. I will speak to Head chef regarding the feedback you have given. I am sorry we did not tick the right boxes for you on this occasion. Kind regards Heather Billing Operations Manager
"Tired Hotel"
Let's start with the positives-good pub nearby and the room was clean, negative points the hotel room was dark and small and was very tired. The floors outside the room creaked loudly when people walked past at night. The bed and pillows were very poor the worse hotel I've stayed at for a long time. The fire door outside the room banged shut at night. Only 3 of up for breakfast yet it seemed to take a long time to get breakfast. The kitchen door was always open near the stairs letting food smells fill the hotel. Given wifi code no wifi was available in the room.
BWClaydonHotel, Manager at BEST WESTERN Claydon Country House Hotel, responded to this review
I thank you for the feedback given in your review and can only apologise that you seem to have experienced more than one problem during your stay. We will look into all of the points you have raised and use this information to make improvements for the future. Sadly we cannot always control noise from other guests. Kind regards Heather Billing Operations Manager
"Great location on out skirts of Ipwich"
Stayed here on business, great location as on outskirts of Ipswich, in the area of the hotel there is a chip shop next door and 2 pubs in the village plus local shop so ideal. Nice beer garden outside for the warm evenings. Room was small but did the trick. Breakfast was disappointing as they were busy and not able to cope with the amount of paying customers. We paid for Full Breakfast and only ended up having a drink and bacon sandwich as couldn't wait any longer.

Thank you for leaving your review, I am so sorry you experienced these problems with breakfast, I can only apologise on behalf of the hotel. Kind regards Heather Billing Operations Manager
"Good value Hotel in convenient location"
We stayed one night on the way to a family party in Ipswich. The location was very convenient in a nice little village. Hotel staff were very welcoming, and the Hotel itself was very good value for the price. Breakfast very good, and overall accommodation perfectly nice.
