Resumen de la reserva
The hotel is adequate. The weekend rate was a little high, however, it is in a tourist area. The breakfast was good, the man in charge of the breakfast was really nice. The hotel was quiet however, being so close to the interstate there was truck sound all night.
Couldn't find anywhere to stay this weekend for a last min getaway. Now I know why this hotel had a last minute room when nowhere else did. The rooms were run down, with broken furniture unaddressed, SUPER COLD pool, very skimpy breakfast, and a fight in the pool almost broke out by intoxicated guest while my children were swimming. SO Unacceptable, I would never stay here again. Only 15 mins from the beach. If I could have found ANYwhere else I would have checked our early.
Older hotel with beds that were fairly comfortable. Our room had a musty smell and a tinge of cigar smoke. At $300, we found this very expensive for a 2 star hotel. This hotel felt tired and old. I would not stay there again as I have been in many Best Westerns that were much better.
We stayed the night of July 7th. This is an older, dated hotel as compared to others in the area. Front desk check-in person was not very friendly--we felt like we were imposing on her "cell phone time". First room that was assigned to us smelled super-saturated with room deodorizer, so we requested a different room. The clerk then assigned us a 2nd floor room about as far away from the front desk as possible, even though the parking lot was very empty for lack of guests. One favorable thing was that the bed was very comfortable.
The bed was very comfortable and we had an excellent night sleep. The hotel was very clean. There was a nice pool that was inside and outside of the building. There was a Delicious hot breakfast included. I would highly recommend this hotel for any traveler.
The staff was friendly and helpful, the room was clean, the hotel is well maintained, the breakfast was good with many options, and the pool and common areas are clean and well maintained. We would definitely stay here again.
Toilet overflow after doing #1 Closet door didn't work Couldn't close bathroom door or you would get stuck in ther
We stayed 2 nights and we all felt sick there when we woke up. The bathrooms were clean, but the carpets should be sanitized, moldy, and stinky.
The trash can stayed full for the 3 days I was there. Nothing was clean. The breakfast team made it fell like we were bothering them asking for the food to be refilled even though breakfast was not over yet . The first night there was a bike gang that seemed to be having a party in the conference room. So that was a little strange not sure if that was approved by the hotel team or not. And the Pool/Hotel made my entire family develop a cough and head ache that lasted a few day. We believe it was from excessive chlorine. It took management about 15 hours to get back to us with no answers.
We arrived and we were only a couple doors from where we stayed our last visit. I was very skeptical to say the least (last hotel wasn't up to my standards). The staff were all friendly and things were well kept and clean. It isn't my first area of choice but it worked. Will stay again
Hotel is infested with bugs right now! The hot tub is also GREEN. Full of algae or mold? Got a refund and moved hotels. Had a good experience with the staff though, no complaints there. I have stayed at this property before and had a decent experience for the price but I will be staying away from this hotel from now on.
Hot Tub was full of algae and mold, Food was flavorless. Was told I was receiving a 50% discount but was only credited 20%. My family of 3 is sick from staying there one night. Sink didn't drain in the bathroom.
This hotel was absolutely disgusting. The hotel stinks, paint chipping everywhere, dust bunnies, broken equipment, loud broken clunky sounding air conditioner that kept me up all night. The hot tub had so much algae or mold in it I had to leave. The girl at the desk was rude and I would have rather slept in my car.
I've become a regular at best western, so usually everything meets my standards and everything did, except the pool lol. Best Western isn't the only one guilty of this, lots of company's use to much chemicals in pool water. Is it a Covid thing? I don't know but it's some thing I have observed with ALOT of other companies in the past. Can't be too good for our skin.
We love going up here for the wine. We going almost year. We stay at the Best Western. But it was gone down in the care of hotel. The hotel has a musty smell as soon as you walk in. Beds are hard. The employees we semi friendly. I wouldn't recommend this hotel now. I would have in the previous years.
We booked this hotel after a one night stay in terrible Inn next door. It was such a relief to be in a clean room and even better a clean bathroom. Beds were comfortable to sleep on . The breakfast in the morning was good too
I am a Best Western member, and I have stayed in mostly Best Westerns in my travel. We are very impressed with the St Joseph/Benton Harbor area, and will return, but we will absolutely not stay at this hotel again. The room leans so much the drawers will not stay closed. The toilet is the height of a kid's toilet in a nursery. The windows are so poor that you hear the highway at all times, and when the lawn was being cut it sounded as if the mower was in our room! The mattress is so old the edges are curved. The shower stall has no place to place your soap or shampoo. The breakfast is ok.
Unfortunately we had to make a last-minute reservation so we paid dearly for the first night. The breakfast was crummy ... typical 3rd rate, salty scrambled eggs say enough. A very important concern of ours was not addressed properly. We were to dine with some friends that night and the hair dryer did not work ... and the fixture was very loosely connected to the wall. We also were going to a wedding the next day, which was more important. The young woman at the desk said she would notify a repair person or get a working dryer. When we returned that night we saw that nothing was done! We got the impression that she did not even try while we were gone. She then got us a replacement dryer but the fixture remained dangling from the wall. The breakfast was lousy ... typical ow quality for a $50 hotel. Salty scrambled eggs and potato tots. Neither could be eaten. We could go on, and on, and on ..... but we will not spend the time. We are Choice Hotel members and we expected better.
Upon entering the lobby, the hotel smelled musty. This awful smell continued into our room. Throughout our 2 night stay, the humidity in our room was so high that nothing dried including our bath towels. Unworn items in our suitcases became damp by the time we checked out. My daughter also became sick on this trip which I attribute to mold due to the wet conditions through out the building. The pool room was like a sauna with no ventilation so I assume thats where the dampness came from. The carpet was also filthy. After showering, stepping out of the bathroom onto the carpet and then back into the bathroom moments later, dirty foot prints were left on the bath floor. The bathroom floor became so dirty I had to ask staff for a new floor towel and use paper towel I had brought to clean the dirt off the bathroom floor throughout the trip. I have NEVER experienced carpet this dirty in any hotel I have ever stayed in. The only positives of this stay were the friendly desk & kitchen staff & the breakfast. The sheets were clean & the mattress was comfortable. The shower and counter tops all appeared to be clean. I wouldn't stay here again. I've had better experiences at other similarly priced hotel chains. *photos were taken upon checkout to be sure I received my security deposit back
Saturday night was overpriced for this hotel. The rate was $250 and this was not a hotel that should be charging that rate. We had king room with pull out sofa. No linens for the pull out and when we asked it seemed like a hassle. They gave me a flat sheet and pillowcase. No blanket, apparently the hotel was out of extra blankets. Both nights! The wifi connection was not secure and warned us of security issues.
I booked a room at this facility because I we were passing through on family vacation and have a 4 year old who loves to swim. This seem to be the only hotel in the area with an outdoor pool which sounded great for a July night. After arriving and quickly putting on our suits we went to the pool area. Luckily a gentleman from the hot tub told us that there was "feces" in the pool. Sure enough yes there was feces in the pool. It was reported to the front desk and they didn't seem concerned about it. I told them they should probably shut down the pool and clean it. Now with a disappointed 4 year old who didn't get to swim we returned to our room. Later I noticed that they did not close the pool and they were allowing people to swim in it. Disgusting!! Also the general cleanliness of our hotel was a little dirty and it seemed like there was feces on the wall in the bathroom. Disgusting. The front desk staff was again not concerned.
The area around the hotel is a little sketchy. The place itself is dated but clean. The indoor/outdoor pool area is pretty neat. Employees were all very friendly. It served its purpose for a quick, cheap beach trip.
The hotel seemed off the moment I walked in, the employee behind the desk was not dressed professionally. Unbeknownst to me, this hotel charges a $100 security deposit, this is not mentioned anywhere on the website or any time during the booking process. Simply posted at the front desk. I have stayed at several best westerns and was never required to pay a security deposit. This should of been my first sign to get the heck out of there. I go up to room 236 and start looking around as I normally do, I open up the sofa sleeper where I intended for my son to sleep, the sofa sleeper is full of random hairs and crumbs. I let the front desk know that the sofa sleeper is filthy so they put me in another room across the hall. I open this sofa sleeper and there's a urine stain on the bedding which went down into the mattress. So obviously they never clean their sofa sleepers! The manager on duty was not empathetic or accommodating. She was actually kind of rude and seemed appalled that I wasn't going to just brush of the fact that the mattress was covered in filth and urine. We ended up leaving and staying at a different hotel.
Hotel is clean, good locationi, good amenities. Front desk staff could be friendlier and use common sense in dealing with customers. Breakfast should be offered before 7 am for people needing to travel long distances and therefore an earlier start to the day. At least coffee should be available.
Conveniently located right off I94 and good central location for our wine tasting adventures! Rooms were very clean and bed was really comfortable. Pool and hot tub were nice. Breakfast had hot and cold choices - better than most places we've stayed at. The staff were friendly but the couple managing the breakfast area were AMAZING! They went above and beyond for every customer, were super friendly and accommodating. We would definitely stay here again.
Conveniently located off 94 which served our needs for a family wedding nearby. Beds were comfortable, room was clean and breakfast had plenty of options (though the use of single use plastics in this Covid age irks me still for all the plastic waste but that's a corporate decision not the fault of the local hotel). Appreciated the extended checkout. Only minor complaint is the water pressure was a little low on the shower but not obnoxiously so.
This hotel appears to be two rows of older single story rooms, with exterior entry, with a more recent addition of a three story central building, with rooms having an interior entry. We chose a room in the central building that was nicely updated, as I had read previous reviews describing differences in room quality between the buildings. The 2 queen beds were very comfortable and the clean updated room was larger than average. Sightly noisy, but consistent with a 2-3 star hotel with interior halls. Our room had a tub/shower. The provided breakfast was better than anticipated with two waffle makers, fruit, bagels, yogurt, and biscuits and gravy. The biscuits ran out before I could taste them, but the waffles were a bit thin on taste. Location was away from the water but on a main road. A McDonald's next door and a decent inexpensive Chinese restaurant, Fortune Cookie, with take out in the mall within walking distance on the corner.
Great breakfast and friendly conscientious staff! Although the kitchen was hot, the managing couple was enthusiastic and efficient, especially during a holiday weekend! Nice indoor/outdoor pool and cute gazebo area! I will stay here again! Only 15 minutes to the beaches in Benton Harbor and St. Joe.
Super comfy bed n pillows. Hotel itself is somewhat dated. It was a great deal on Priceline. We did enjoy the pool area. You are in an area amongst big box stores and very near the freeway. The breakfast was very good for a hotel breakfast, the gal in charge of that was super sweet! Super close to St Joseph which has a great downtown district.
This hotel needs to be fumigated and is in need of a deep cleaning and remodeling!!! The outer doors that require keys for safety purposes can be pulled open while there locked and the room doors are sketchy at best. The couch in my room was stained, dinghy, and flip house looking. The bed was hard as a brick and the pool looked very gloomy, dinghy, and dank. My wife saw a cockroach on the counter by the beverage machine when she went to get coffee on our last nights stay.
This is a dirty hotel. The carpet smells musty. The bathroom look moldy. The furniture are chipped and pealing, and worn out. The outside of the building are completely ignored. Bugs are creeping on windows. Wall paint are peeling off. Breakfast is of poor quality. This place needs significant upgrades to be considered a hotel. We paid $250 per night.
Terrible ugly worn out room, noisy AC, bath fan, and late night in lobby, closet so small that door only slides open to about a 12-14”. Expensive for what it was, too. Location within blighted big box shopping area is depressing. Luggage carts falling apart. Toilet way too low, (legal?), shower door crooked. Couldn't wait to leave.
Checking into the hotel was a super pleasant start to our stay. I asked Sue about a later check out on Weds July 13 at 3pm and knew there would be a cost. I was told management would need to advise. I never heard back. On Weds I spoke to Yeni at the front desk by phone and asked about the 3pm checkout. She said that was impossible unless I paid in full for a full night stay. I told her I expected to pay something however this was extreme. When I returned to the room at 1pm my keys did not work even though my credit card was charged for the full night stay. I went down to the front desk and Yeni made me two new keys. When I checked out as planned at 3pm Yeni was unpleasant. Never offered me a receipt for my stay. She has zero hospitality/people skills.
Front desk staff were very courteous and accommodating. We paid a high rate than other rooms in the area, but I do think the higher rate was worth it. The room was very clean and everything worked. Breakfast was so-so, but better than most. I felt safe and secure both inside and outside, though I wouldn't travel far from the hotel on foot. Working AC, fridge, microwave, TV, shower, etc. Nice pool, though we didn't use it, I would have had we had time.
Breakfast selection was good with a very nice lady working in there. Room was okay, but a bit over priced. Decent location near shops and restaurants. Not too far from Lake Michigan and Downtown Benton Harbor.
Last-minute family trip to St Joseph. Nany hotels in the area were full and we had limited options. I stay at Best Western hotels for work travel. This one had broken fixtures, dirty room, roaches. I won't stay here, again.
We traveled to SW Michigan to go to a show in Kalamazoo and explore the area. We chose to stay at this hotel for pricing, location, and reviews. Our room was clean and very comfortable. It could use a little updating but we would definitely stay here again. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
My stay was very satisfactory starting with great guest services at the desk to a clean comfortable room. This location had access to a number of restaurants at different price points to satisfy everyone. It also had easy access to shopping and amenities of both Benton Harbor and St Joseph.
Nice and friendly staff! The breakfast was top notch! I heard nothing but praises about the breakfast from everyone that ate! The rooms were clean! Will be back again soon! A great place to take your kids too!
Bugs in the light fixtures. Dead bugs on the floors in the morning. My room wasn't cleaned not once! The drains were plugged. I was standing in water while showering.I had to take my towels to the front desk for fresh ones. Only good thing was the breakfast!
Receptionist was just there to collect a paycheque. Rooms need to be updated and refreshed! Our bathroom floor was dirty and there was hair on the basin counter. The breakfast ladies however was super friendly and helpful!!
The cleanliness of the room was lacking. There was something red splattered on one of the walls. The mattress was extremely uncomfortable and the furniture in the sitting area was very stiff. It looked nice but was hard to sit in.
The staff at this Best Western Windsor wonderful. They were quite helpful in a very stressful situation that we were having. They took care of us and their service was outstanding. I just unfortunate that not all hotels offer this level of service comfort cleanliness and general overall attention to their customers.
Everybody was very friendly and helpful. The Breakfast Staff was the Best in Years. Small Pool Not Open, because of Covid? We arrived Late, Only to Sleep and it would be Nice to Get a Reduced Member Rate.
The room and facility was very nice. However, the car charger was blocked and the space has no signage reserving the space for electric vehicles. The charger has apparently been hit since it is loose and leaning quite a bit, but does work - if you can get to it.
The room itself had dim/weird lighting and smelled like smoke. I could hear the washing machines all night through the wall. The mattress was too hard, and when I asked for two extra pillows they said they didn't have any. When I called and asked for extra coffee pods they said they didn't have any. While the trip wasn't miserable (it was only one night), I definitely would never stay here or at another Best Western again.
Made reservation with best Western on line, but the people at the desk refused to honor the price on my receipt. They lied to me with a bull story that they don't charge the card and then charged my visa a different price than what my email reservation said. Shady
this hotel had pros and cons. bed was comfortable and hotel was quiet unfortunately there were more cons. room could have been cleaner and i don't think windows have ever been washed. shower was small and had no ledge to set soap or shampoo on. toilet was the lowest one i have ever seen and i am only five feet tall. breakfast was ok but almost a half hour late being put out.
Went to stay for a wedding. Decided later that I wanted to add days to my trip. There was a wedding block reserved for guest that I had already been booked in so when I added days they told me I would have to check out and immediately check back in for the wedding dates. I was fine with that. Day comes for check in and they give me a key to a room where guests were currently staying in and they were watching tv. I went back down to say there were guest in there and I was given a new room. The next day I go to check out and back in like I was told to do. I thought everything was fine. And immediate left to hang out at the beach. I came back and my key didn't work. Went down to front desk and they said that they had checked me out. I am now worried as all of my belongings were in that room. They then stated they had moved me to a different room but was able to change and keep me in the same room. Thankfully all of my belongings were still in the previous room and safe. The next day, I was in my room when housekeeping came and asked if I was checking out, I said no I am supposed to be here until Sunday. (This was on Friday). They said no worries. Later staff came to the room to see how long I have been in there as their system said it has been empty for 3 days. I said I was there since Wednesday and this was the room I was given. After much discussion, we were given new keys for the room. The next day, Saturday, I go down to checkout and back in as the wedding block has ended and this is what I was told to do. The reservation was messed up and they stated it was for Sunday night and not Saturday night. I was given an attitude by the lady at the desk. Who was trying to tell me I did not make the reservation through the hotel. I had made the reservation by calling the front desk months ago. I did not appreciate her trying to tell me I did not when I knew how I add the reservation. They started they did not have any more king rooms and I would need to move to a queen room. We had asked for some kind of discount for all of these troubles and she stated with the issues we had already gotten two of the nights free from the mix up. I later looked at my banking account and was charged for everything so they lied about that. Went to confront the issue and they offered a $100 discount, which has still not shown in my account. I doubt I will get the discount. I changed to the new room and many doors were broken. Very disappointed
This was a great Best Western. Walked into a very clean room. The beds were comfortable, the hotel was quiet, there was a large variety for breakfast. The bathroom was interesting - shower head was a little weak / small, but the water was warm. The fan in the bathroom was connected to the light, whenever the light was on the fan was loud and noisy. Staff was helpful. I would stay here again.
This was the dirtiest hotel I've ever stepped foot in. Stains all over floors and on furniture. Came for a joint bachelor bachelorette party and reserved a room block where we weren't even with the rest of the party. Swimming pool was so gross. Looks like it hadn't been cleaned or sanitized.
Nothing to recommend this hotel. We stayed there on a Saturday night in June and parked our car in the parking lot by the front entrance. In the morning, found that it had been sideswiped by a drunk driver--$2400 of damage. Not an apology from the staff or manager. We weren't even notified. Just found the damage as we were leaving the hotel. Incredibly unprofessional.
We stayed at this hotel the last weekend of June 2021. First the payment for the room was messed up by the front desk, but that was eventually corrected, but should have never been an issue to start with. Second the room "looked" clean, but upon further looking, there were stains on both beds and the wall of the room. My wife went to the front desk, they apologized and said we can change rooms. The next room had the SAME issue with the stains on the bedding. We ended up staying in the original room. You may ask why we did not checkout, well this was the weekend on the Maytag Ironman competition and there were no rooms available within an acceptable distance of the event. My wife went back to the front desk and ask if the bedding could be changed, they stated that they doubt that would happen, because the cleaning staff would not be in until after we checked out, which was 3 days later. Needless to say, we will never stay at this or any other Best Western Hotel in the future. This was also reported to the corporate Best Western Site. We have the supporting pictures if needed. Front Desk staff was friendly and supportive, not blaming them this issue goes much higher.
It was advertised as having a full continental breakfast. There were some hard boiled eggs and breakfast burritos, NOT even any milk. We were told that they were busy over the weekend but there was even less the 2nd day.
Staff very friendly but had to ask to get room cleaned on 3rd day there, also the Saturday breakfast only had a little cereal left (and no milk!) by 830, when breakfast is served until 10. Found out the new policy is that they only clean your room if you ask for it, but this wasn't posted anywhere and our trashcans were full and towels all used by third day....$200/night is too much for this stuff to be going on.
We had a vacation rental with a major power outage. Had to locate something quick. This hotel is amazing. Nice in/out pool, extremely quiet room. Staff was great. Grab n go breakfast, but had tables and plenty of snack type food. Would highly recommend to anyone.
We arrived hopefully as we stayed in a best Western in Traverse city and was very pleased. The person at the desk was very nice we got to our room and it looked good expect the shower was leaking and was very obvious not cleaned there was dirt and other things in it and a wet dirty towel still in the shower. We went to the front desk and they moved us right away. The second room smelled like the toilet was backed up and it was gross but not overpowering. We also saw that the top bed comforter was stained, it was just on the top and we were too tired and frustrated to bring up the issues again. It was extremely loud throughout the night and some of the workers didn't wear masks and there was a lady yelling in the morning that someone stole her shoes out of her room and the cops were there and the staff just told her to calm down and handled the situation poorly.
Lighting at the work desk was non existent. I returned to my room for the second night and found that the room had not been cleaned, absolutely nothing had been done. I had originally planned on staying 4 nights but decided to check out and drive home for the third night. When I checked out, had to wait for the clerk to show up at the desk. I complained about the room cleanliness and was told that due to COVID they are only servicing rooms daily upon request at check in, and that i should have been told that at check in. She credited my account with 10,000 bonus points, so I decided to give them another try when I returned Thrusday. I was issued a room but when I entered the room the TV was on and someone was in the bed. I returned to the front and got another room. The chair at the work table was broken, slanting forward and very uncomfortable. When I return for the next two weeks I will be staying elsewhere.
Room was great. Expected a good weekday breakfast and there was hardly any offerings. No hot breakfast, all prepackaged. And the juice dispenser was not even working. Even the pool was closed. I wish I would've know this prior to booking the hotel......
We have stayed at many Best Westerns and unfortunately I have to say this was the not very good. I guess it was renovated but I don't know when , and maybe our room wasn't. Smelled very musty. Decor needs updating. The bathroom was not very clean. Shower had mold around the bottom and the shower door was not clean. The toilet was not really clean either. We had the AC fan on "continuous" but during night it kept stopping and the room would get warm and just feel stale. Hand sanitizer at front desk was empty and I didn't see anymore anywhere. This was way overpriced for the quality. Very disappointing.
Upon check in the bathroom was not clean, sand on floor and obvious toilet wasnt cleaned. I cleaned it myself and when I went to desk to tell them and to get more towels she gave me more towels but never addressed my issue. However when I checked out a different desk person asked about my stay and I mentioned it and she took money off our bill so that was appreciated. We were in town for a wedding. Another family member had his reservation messed up and when he got there was told that there were no rooms. So they had to last minute an hour before wedding find a new hotel. But then another family member checked in after wedding and an unknown couple was ahead of them and they didn't have reservation and the desk person said we have a king room or two queens which would you like. So our other family member could have stayed there after all. The price is high for the area and especially with what was closed (example pool) and what had been limited or changed for Covid, you don't get much for the price. Thankful we did get a price reduction though.
Second year in a row staying here. Kingsized bed is better than i remember. Sleeping very well. Staff at front desk has been great. Social distancing going well. Staff wearing masks and using hand sanitizer. The lady serving continental breakfast had her running shoes on!
Caution, If you are traveling for business this hotel will not service your room, If you need towels or any regularly serviced items you will have to find them on your own. This is not conveyed at the time of booking or at check in!
I am extremely disappointed with my stay. My reservation was for 7/4 - 7/9. When I checked in I was told my reservation was split in two separate stays and I would have to checkout and check back in the next morning. Not a huge deal, but inconvenient. I arrived on Saturday, by Monday my room still had not been cleaned. I was unsure if this was a new COVID-19 procedure I was unfamiliar with or just an oversight on their part. I was told the rooms are cleaned on the third day of your stay. This was not mentioned during the check in process and I can't imagine how this is a best practice during a pandemic. I returned to my room Tuesday, housekeeping still had not serviced my room. I go back to front desk and tell them my room was not cleaned again. The clerk takes down my room number and says he will have housekeeping take care it. When I return to my room Wednesday, still no service. I go BACK to the front desk and express my frustration. The clerk is not rude but not at all apologetic. I have to request clean towels because I don't even have any. I check out Thursday morning and realize I left my silk pillow case ON the hotel pillow. I call that evening and I'm told it's not there. For 5 DAYS housekeeping failed to service my room and now they clean the room and don't turn in my pillow case. I'm completely disgusted and will never stay at another Best Western property. Save yourself the hassle and stay somewhere else! Horrible service!
Clean room but staff needs to work on there people skills. I booked the room and price changed without me knowing. I needed a room and I checked with the manager and was told yep we will honor that $. When I got the bill recite by email it was more than what he stated. Make sure you look at the price and amount owed before you leave.
Great hotel right off the highway. Not too far from downtown St. Joe. The staff was very friendly, rooms were clean, breakfast was delicious and the hot tub was a perfect ending of our fun day exploring. Only issue was we thought the bed was a little hard. Woke up with our backs hurting. But everyone is different and it won't stop us from coming back.
The rooms are clean and nicely decorated. Warm comforters on the beds and reasonable rates for the good quality offered. Applebee's is close by but their food was barely OK altho their service was very good.
This hotel was very nice and well run. I really appreciated the help given to me by the hotel staff who guided me on places to go and things to do in the area. The rooms were clean and the breakfast was fine. Unfortunately, we went on a night when there was a very loud yelling and crying family next door, but we would probably go back again.
Have stayed here twice on trip to Chicago area. Convenient location. Lobby area very clean, and decorated nicely for the Fall Season. Comfortable accommodations and good price. Nice, hot breakfast; friendly staff. Give them a try, I think you'll be satisfied for an overnight stay.
This is a nice hotel. The bed was very comfortable & the room was very clean. Staff was so nice from check in to check out. The breakfast was one of the better ones that we have had. The only complaint we had was the noise from the expressway. I would ask for a room on the opposite side.
We spent the weekend wine tasting on the Western side of Michigan., I never knew there were so many good wineries in the state. We spent the night at the Best Western in Benton Harbor since it was centrally located to the wineries. We were greeted by a friendly staff. Our room was clean and pleasant, the bed was very comfortable. The only negative thing I can say is our room was at the end of the hotel and was close to I-94 freeway. We could hear the traffic going by. Other than that, we were very pleased with the hotel.
I arrived late...found a bed bug on my pillow..switched to a room that after close inspection was very dirty in various areas of the room as if housekeeping is doing the bare minimum. Was not offered a late checkout or anything.
this BW was very clean ,the employees were super nice.My best friend and I needed a road trip and this was where we stayed. I wasn't happy that I was still charged 66.00 even using lots of points.I will be calling my next days off to talk to someone about that.
Really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. My top priorities are to have clean and quiet and my needs were completely met. Everyone that works here was very pleasant and room care of business promptly. I would definitely stay here again.
The staff was excellent. I traveled from Texas to Michigan because of my dad having terminal brain cancer. I was exhausted, stressed, and grieving, but the staff's kindness and compassion at check-in was very much needed and appreciated, thank you!
Pretty much a typical Best Western. Right off the i94. Gas and Restaurants nearby. It is a type of industrial park with Lowes, Walmart etc. Not much traffic so its quiet. The hotel was clean, looked either new or newly renovated. Good breakfast, plenty of parking good service and front desk staff. I would stay again
The one thing I recall first about this hotel was the staff. They were so helpful, and so very friendly. It didn't seem at all to me like they were being just "professional". It seemed as if they hired the genuinely nice people, and then taught them to work in a hotel.
Check in was a breeze Room was spotless. Nice pool area; indoor and outdoor pool Breakfast was great (eggs, sausage, waffles, juice, coffee, etc. Restaurants close by. Hotel is about 15 minutes from Sister Lakes.
Many Thanks go out to Debra and Vee at the Best Western in Benton Harbour their compassion and consideration trumped the " Policy " when they provided me a room when the Marriot Courtyard would NOT. I arrived Wednesday at 2 AM to check into the Marriot Courtyard ( this was the property the company I work for recommended ) it was at this time I found out my credit card had been blocked by my bank due to fraudulent usage. The young man on the desk though afraid he would get in trouble had mercy on me and allowed me to pay cash for the room and put my head down for a few hours. At 7 AM I was awoken by housekeeping, I promptly called my bank to see if I could resolve the issue with my Credit Card but was told it would take up to 10 days. I went down to the concierge ~ 9 AM to make arrangements to stay 1 more night however the Marriot Courtyard insisted I check out despite this being a business trip for a major event that contributes to the Benton Harbor Mi. School(s). I offered to provide them 3xs the value of the room rental in cash, give them my passport to hold until I checked out and the manager didn't even have the courtesy to tell me face to face He / She directed the young man on the desk to tell me it is "Policy" there are NO Exceptions so no credit card no room period! The smirk on the young man's face told me he could have cared less he was just doing what he was told and that was that. I found myself , Alone 400 miles from home, in a different country, with a business function to attend on the Wednesday and Thursday and was facing the prospect of having to sleep in my car. God Bless!!!!! Debra and Vee for allowing Compassion and Consideration to trump Corporate " Policy " . Don't get me wrong I understand SOPs are put in place to protect the Corporation but when there are extenuating circumstances when there is ZERO possibility of risk, loss or liability to the Corporation sometimes the human element should be considered before turning someone away. Room was nice. My only issue I paid 100.00 + to stay on Friday night in the same room I stayed in on Thursday night. Overall happy. Close to Walmart and restaurants were nearby. Not far from Silver Beach in Saint Joseph.
This hotel, in a resort area of Michigan, was just average. The cost was a lot higher than I would expect to pay for a property of this quality. It was pretty busy. The pool looked nice. The decor was a little worn. The carpet in the public areas needed to be cleaned. The chair seats in the breakfast area were stained. The bedroom was fine. The bathroom was clean. On check-in the bedspread was not clean but the housekeeping staff made sure it was taken care of, but not until the second day.
The Good: The rooms were decent in size and fit the pricing. Cleanliness was average. The hotel is needing updates but considering limited options in St. Joseph, it was adequate. About a 10-12 minute drive to beach- and easy to get to. Right next to a big theater in case you have a rainy day. And within walking distance to a Walmart. Also super close to a Meijer grocery store. The staff were friendly and helpful with restaurant recommendations. Slept well most of the stay. The Bad: The photos of the pool were a little misleading. I really didn't care for the size or condition of the pool. out of our 4 night stay- the room was tidied each day with new towels everyday but 1. Not sure why we were skipped that time, but we were out plenty of time to be done. The Ugly: In a previous review I read that things were known to run out at breakfast. The manager responded that he/she would be sure this was corrected. It wasn't. Every day we were there, things ran out and were not replaced, not because of the worker but because they hadn't planned well. She wasn't able to re-stock because there wasn't anything left in the back either. Specifically, out of creamer for coffee, MILK (which is needed for cereal, oatmeal, drinking etc.), yogurt and eggs. During peak season, managment needs to equip their staff with the ability to refill these items. I felt terrible for the woman working who was hustling but simply didn't have the breakfast items to refill. Free (and conventient) breakfast was one of the reasons we chose to stay at this hotel, but found ourselves going out for breakfast multiple days due to inadequate stocking.
This hotel was pretty nice for the most part. The room was nice and the bed comfortable. Pillows and towels were also clean and plentiful. They have an indoor/outdoor pool that you can swim thru to get to either side. The glass was filthy so you couldn't even see the outside pool from the inside. If you had kids in both pools, it was hard to watch both areas. Also, the breakfast variety was fantastic, but the service attendant was horrible. Food was empty for several minutes constantly, and she was never around to replenish it. The hotel was at full capacity when we stayed, so the breakfast area was very busy. She kept going in the back for long periods of time while people kept waiting for her to bring out food. She never cleaned the counter so pancake batter was all over, The price was a little high but the other hotels on the same street were even more, so we were ok with that. I would stay here again because my complaints are minimal. If they cleaned the pool glass and get a different breakfast person, my rating would be better.
I paid $216.45 for one night and received a towel with brown stains on it. However, to begin with, the whole hotel seems to be highly understaffed. There might be around 4 employees running the whole hotel so don't except any staff to tend to anything you ask for. My family and I arrived 45 minutes early and were not allowed to check in as the hotel was no where near ready for new check ins. No problem! We check in after our check in time and there were 4 of us and each room only comes with 3 large towels. I requested we be sent another extra 2 towels and 2 hours went by and we never received anything. I call the front desk and ask again for the towels and once again no one said anything or came by with anything. The next morning I go to the front desk and ask the staff like where are the towels we requested twice yesterday. I was told that they can't leave the front desk to give towels as other guest need to check in. Anyways I was finally given my towels. After finally getting my extra towels I went to shower and noticed as I unfolded my towel that there were brown stains all over the towel. Unacceptable. The breakfast was okay nothing special however once again they had only one lady working the breakfast area and she complained about not having a day off in weeks and she was the only one working breakfast so don't expect things to be restocked for quite some time. Overall, the staff is able to get the job done for not having enough staff to work. The overall building itself looks clean and nice from the outside. The rooms inside seem pretty clean and the wifi speed is great however I still can't believe the towel issue I experienced. This was definitely a first. I don't see myself staying at Best Western again as there is a Hilton not to far away with better prices and I have never had an issue with Hilton Hotels. Not to mention I never received a towel with brown stains on it at any other hotel.
My wife and I and our daughter and husband and their 2 children 1 and 3 years stayed at the hotel. We had 2 rooms reserved for 4 nights and then added another one night I called the hotel three weeks before to make sure we would be able to stay in the same room for the entire 5 nights. I was told that it would be OK. When we checked in again I was told that we would not have to move. Also I told them that my wife is handicapped and in a wheelchair and needs first floor room close to the front door. On the morning of the 4th day I checked the front desk to make sure DEBORAH the manager said that we had to move.TOUGH LUCK Also my daughter's room was never cleaned yesterday. TOUGH LUCK
My 1 star review is based on my price that I paid. Let me first say if I had paid $70 or $80 a night for this hotel I would say it would be a solid 3 star.for the $146 I paid a night I can only give this one star for that price. Our room smelled musty when we first walked in. I thought once we got the air running it would improve, but it did not improve at all over our stay. The hotel seemed a bit run down. The furniture in our room was okay. The bed was average .I've slept in better I've slept in worse. Our bathroom seemed a little old and tired especially the shower . It was an older fiberglass shower it just looked very dirty and stained. I noticed the back of our door to our bathroom had something splashed all over it that had not been cleaned . When we opened our curtains the windows were just filthy we could hardly see out. Breakfast had a lot of choices. They had eggs but they were basically rubber, there was bacon but it was paper thin. The yogurt was some off brand I've never heard of I decided to give it a try it was so bad I couldn't eat it. The only fruit they had were apples that look very old. Each day people were asking if they had any bananas and they just kept saying no yet there was a grocery store one block away. The coffee was good. I ended up with a coffee and a muffin each morning. We didn't use the pool because it stays light so long in the summer by the time we would get back to the hotel the pool would be closed which was disappointing. outside of the hotel was very weathered and in need of a facelift. Location was good it was close to restaurants and shopping and about 15 minutes to the beach. Like I said I would stay here again if the price was right but for this price, not a chance
Spent 3 nights in the area around July 4th. This was our second visit to the hotel, and it was super busy over the holiday. We had to go to breakfast early to beat the rush. I was concerned that the hotel would be loud, but even though it was a full weekend, it was quiet. The staff worked hard to keep the rooms clean, etc. The jets on the hot tub were broken during our visit, and so we were a bit disappointed.
We came back to our room around 2:00 after our first night and discovered our room was not cleaned. I went to the front desk and the person behind the counter gave me attitude and said we must have left the do not disturb sign on the door. Really? We had left our room by 9:00am and there were no cleaning crew on our floor. They had no one to clean the room and gave us towels. The next day, we went out by 8:30 and came back after 2:00. Hanging on our door was a do not disturb sign that was different than the one in our room (Ours was small, this one was long). Again, went to the front desk, and the same crappy attitude awaited me there. Only after I showed them the hanging sign and ours, their attitude changed somewhat. We went back out and came back early evening and magically our room was cleaned! I agree, with other reviewers, this place needs to be cleaned. The couch in our room was filthy (they gave us a sheet to put over it!). The carpet didn't looked like it had been vacuumed in weeks. The bathtub had a non-slip surface and it hasn't been cleaned in a long time. The room was damp, and smelled bad. The outside looked bad as well. (Hey Best Western: it's not difficult to pull weeds!) If you are looking for a very dirty hotel when the front counter people will give you attitude, this is your place!
Easy check in, friendly desk staff. Clean comfortable beds. Great fully stocked breakfast with occasionally over ripe fruit. But has waffles, and hot items even up to closing. Breakfast ends earlier than Dallas at 9:00. Decent cleaning staff speaks good morning only missed room once but we slept late daily. Clean fitness room. Nice location near restaurants. Nice black-out curtains. Can hear some highway noise like other nearby hotels but close to major intersections. Big room.with desk in our double beds. The internet is a little weak and the business center is in the open lobby. The bathroom vent comes on with the light switch. We had a total of 2 trash cans that were always emptied by cleaning staff. It was peaceful with a sitting area in the center yard.. I would definitely choose to stay here again. Clean to my liking. Thanks!
Entire hotel needs a deep clean, from the carpet, to the pool and hot tub. Our room was not very clean, there was urine on the toilet seat. It made me uncomfortable with the lack of cleanliness. There were long hairs stuck to the extra blanket in the closet for the pull out bed. The room made me wish I had brought Lysol spray and wipes. Breakfast was decent and the staff was friendly. The hotel itself just needs cleaned and up kept.
Check in was easy. The place was not in the best shape but it looked like they were working on it. The room was clean but short on trash cans and I found out why. The pool was great. The front desk staff were all very nice. The breakfast was decent but they ran out of everything hot within the first 30 minutes and they do not restock anything so plan on a continental breakfast unless you race down there at 7am. The cleaning staff person we interacted with was completely rude. I asked her a question and she ignored me. All of the trash cans were overflowing at 7am which means they hadn't been emptied at all since the day before. Later I saw the rude cleaning person complaining that she had to take care of it (I know now why there was only one trash can in our room). She was mumbling under her breath and throwing things around so everyone was stopping to watch. Either they were short staffed or she's just short tempered all the time. Not exactly the kind of people I'd want entertaining my customers.
First, they messed up my reservation. Glad I caught it. It took me 6 calls to get it sorted out. Demand an email confirmation if you reserve over the phone. Check in was a breeze. Room was small but fine. The pool was a hit with the kids and lots of outdoor seating. Staff was rude to our group. Apparently they didn't want us using the common areas. Five dads in our group (age 50) sat in the lobby to watch a baseball game at 10pm on a Sat night and a staff member actually told them to "go to bed" because the pool was closed? They weren't anywhere near the pool. They ignored that BS. We were told we couldn't use the hotel forks and napkins after the breakfast closed? Why? We used the tables in the common area to host a small group dinner, cleaned up after ourselves, and were told in the morning that we had to take out the trash because they didn't have a maintenance guy that day. One of our guys did it because he's really nice but I was flabbergasted! A hotel cleaning person asking a guest to take out the trash??? And she was mad about it. Like she was totally in the right! We were later told they had a rowdy group the weekend before. I guess they took it out on us. Not cool.
Hotel was clean and well kept. Front desk staff was very helpful. Unfortunately could not say the same about rest of the staff. Housekeeping was unfriendly, passed a young lady who was cleaning a room.. Smiled and said good morning.. And didn't even get a look much less a greeting. The young lady at the breakfast area was short and rude. We got to the breakfast area at 9:45 and there was nothing to choose from.. And was told what's out is out. Trash cans were over flowing.. Then heard her complaining it was ridiculous how she had to serve breakfast, wash dishes, take out trash.. As a Food Service Manager at a large University... It was unsettling to see such poor customer service.. If you advertise a meal to a certain time.. You should have the same choices if you are the first or the last customer. For me.. That makes the difference in whether we will return or not. And sadly to say.. We will not.
Decent place. Nothing above the average of any other hotel chain. One thing I was disappointed by was the pictures showed the beach and lake, but that's a 10 minute drive away. No where visible from hotel as the TripAdvisor picture stated
Jackie made is feel right at home during out check-in process. She gave us some pointers to good restaurants in the area and made us feel comfortable there. She continually asked if there was anything else we needed - OUTSTANDING service!
I stayed in this hotel for two nights. I was bit by something in the room that has my arm swollen and sore. I called to talk to a manager and she said that they would check the room out and call me back. She didn't call me back so I called back and was told she was on the phone and she would call back again. She called back and said they were going to call pest.
The rooms were clean and hotel smelled fresh. The breakfast was ok, but room for improvement, potentially some non pork options. Staff was friendly and acommodating. Price was right and we enjoyed our stay.
Updated hotel with spacious, clean rooms. Close to interstate, food and shopping. Beds were very comfortable. Staff was amazing, super friendly and welcoming. Great breakfast with impressive selection. Will definately stay here again.
Had a nice visit here. Hotel is a bit dated and needed a good cleaning, but staff was professional and kind! The breakfast options could have been better, but there were plenty of restaurants nearby. I would stay again.
This hotel has a lot going for it with friendly staff, very nice breakfast, clean rooms and lots of hot water. However, their handicapped facilities especially in the bathroom could be made a lot better with not a lot of cost. While we had the room with a roll in shower as we booked and called directly to confirm, someone at the hotel apparently assumed we had booked the handicapped room by mistake and changed us to a regular room, Fortunately, the handicapped room was still available upon arrival. The shower, while a walk in, did not have a hand held shower, rendering it useless for my handicapped wife. She chose not shower because of it. Also, the shower stool the hotel provided did not have height adjustable legs and sat very low to the floor also making it useless for my wife. While not as critical, a comfort height toilet would have been a nice touch as again, the existing toilet was low to the floor.. We did appreciate the grab bars in the bathroom. So, all in all, a great hotel for the average traveler, for us, there were a few issues but they are are fixable and we hope the hotel will consider these suggestions
Great hotel stay here 3 times and every time the hotel was great. Very clean and staff very helpful. Will stay here anytime I'm in the area. Close to restaurants and Walmart and good location for a nice walk.
I stayed on October 19th and woke the next morning with over two dozen bed bug bites on my legs, arms, neck, and feet. Notified weekend staff who told us there was nothing they could do. NO RESPONSE for 2 days from the manager. DO NOT STAY HERE.
Have regular inspections of rooms. Upon entering the room I was assigned, I always check for critters in the bed (happy to find zero) and do a quick review of the room. I found a king size sheet on the double bed and the phone not working. The front dest was kind enough to move rooms since they didn't have housekeeping staff to address the sheet issue. They said they'd report the phone issue. They assigned a new room and I inspected the bed again for critters in the bed (again, happy that I didn't find any) and found stains on the mattress cover on both beds. This was really gross but I was determined to not have to move again so I did a quick inspection of everything else and it was satisfactory until I went to leave the room to go get luggage. The door was coming off the top hinge of the door making it a challenge to close the door. I got my luggage and called the front desk immediately. There was a maintenance staff available to take care of the issue but it took almost an hour to resolve. This wouldn't have been much of an issue if we had more time to spend in Benton Harbor but we had from the time we checked in (5pm) until around 10/11pm (when we had to go to sleep to work early the next day). It took time away from our only evening to enjoy the area and we were disappointed. Upon returning to the room and going to bed I found I was tossing and turning and it took a bit to figure out why. I discovered there was a significant wear on the mattress in one side of the bed so it dipped down and was so uncomfortable. I was happy that the other side was very comfortable but they should be rotating the mattress to prevent wear at such a significant difference on the same mattress. The hot tub jets were not working but they still kept the water hot and available to use. The pool was a nice warm temperature so you didn't freeze if you decided to go to swim out of the building. The pool area was small but it had big windows around the area so you didn't feel so enclose like some other hotels. Staff was outstanding throughout the entire stay. Breakfast was great too. I really appreciated how they actually kept food available and kept replacing it up to the time that it actually states at the hotel. They actually went above and beyond to keep it out a bit past that time so guests who wanted to get more could. Most hotels don't do this and it takes away from the experience. The food was great too. I would say that I wouldn't choose this location as my first option in the future, but would come again if the price were right and they spruced it up a bit (with regards to maintenance and cleanliness) because of the outstanding service which is so hard to find at most hotels.
Rooms are clean and spacious. Beds are comfy. Staff is so warm and friendly. I only visit this area on business once every year or two, but I will certainly be staying here for all my future visits. Sammy and the other wonderful ladies that work at this location were so incredibly warm and welcoming, they made me feel like family. While I am glad to be going home, I actually feel a little sad that I won't be back for awhile. I'm grateful for their hospitality, and this will without a doubt be my home away from home on future trips. Many thanks!
I pulled in late and was fortunate that they had a room available. The staff was very friendly, and the room was clean and comfortable. I love that the room had a shower rather than a tub/shower combo. Good breakfast options as well.
To me this Best Western provided everything you want in an overnight road-trip value stop. The front-desk staff was friendly, courteous and professional, and the 24-hour lobby snack pantry was well-stocked. Our room was very clean, modern and had various updates including a modern sink/vanity in the spotless updated bathroom, flat-screen TV, easy chair, and comfortable beds. The property had delightful design features such as a lodge-like lobby with an indoor pool that led to the outdoor pool (under a glass swim-through divider) and an open stairway. And the price was great. Thanks to the phone- and front-desk staff for friendly, professional service!
Other than the room not being cleaned during our stay everything else was very good, very friendly staff. The rest of this is to make up the 200 characters for this stupid requirement, I hope you are happy
Friendly staff although the hotel was all backed up as we went on labor day. Room is clean, not super clean. Room 120 has a pool view, but being on the same level of the pool I don't know if the room could be seen from the pool, but if you want to watch your kids from the room this is definitely the best room for you. Speaking of the pool, they are not really an outdoor and an indoor pools. It is one pool separated by a glass wall with a pathway between the outdoor and the indoor parts, I don't know how and if it could be used in winter. Breakfast is good too, limited number of items but service plates are always refilled. Bottomline: it's a great deal for its price.
What a excellent hotel, unfortunately we were only stopping one night. The lady who checked us in was fabulous ( sorry didn't get her name, but she was on shift 7.30pm Thursday 6th September) When we came down to relax with friends in the lounge she never stopped working!! In the eating area, pool area, collecting & cleaning up trash. What an asset to the hotel. Breakfast next morning was excellent & set us up for the day. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in this area.
Hotel was clean with a good breakfast. Nice variety of food typical for a Best Western. Room was quiet considering proximity to the highway. I thought it was a little overpriced for not being near the lake. Maybe there was a local event going on that raised the price. Friendly desk staff.
We showed up at 5 PM (checkin is at 3) and were told no rooms were available. We had a reservation and had prepaid. This wouldn't have been a problem is the front desk rep had treated us like humans. Instead she proceeded to give us a lecture about how busy the hotel was and how stupid we were for thinking we could just check in to our prepaid room two hours after checking. We waited in the lobby till our room could be cleaned. No apology...no discount, nothing. Room is normal for $100. Room is awful for the $300 we paid.
LOVE this hotel and I travel a lot for work. Only wished that the hotel was IN St. Joseph, not in neighboring Benton Harbor because I love to walk to beach and surrounding area in downtown. Might be nice to have pet friendly at least one floor or several designated rooms.
It was a busy time during our stay, but didnt feel like it with our room. We had a king size room and it was more than expected. The decore was inviting along with a wall of windiws for natural light. Bed was so comforable and quiet. Breakfast was really good as well. LOVE waffles!!
This was a pleasant, quiet hotel with friednlt front desk staff. Unfortunately, the breakfast buffet ran out of food by the time I went down & thee wasn't a place to sit even if there was somehing to eat. But, I got my coffee. The hotel was very full so maybe that was the problem.
So we arrived at this hotel at 10pm I had made my reservation online through Priceline received the confirmation email and all that. Walk in the lobby Jackie M is working the desk says to me if you made your reservation online today it didn't come through. I said wait what I have this cconfirmation number and email she said I know but it didn't come through, I said well can you atleast check please. She refused to even check to see if my reservation had come through she told me to call Priceline and cancel my reservation through them and rebook it through her at the desk. At first I thought this was a scam to get me to book through best western directly. Jackie M said that I was the 8th person to come in who didn't have a reservation that was booked online, I'm not sure if she checked for them or not. Two other people walked in while I was on the phone with Priceline Jackie M told them to call and cancel didn't even ask for their names or anything just cancel rebook. So I called Priceline she insisted I had a reservation so we are a half hour in to this ordeal in standing in the lobby with 2 kids and my wife with a cart full of luggage 200 miles from home. Priceline requested to talk to Jackie so they called the front desk Jackie wouldn't even give them her name she wouldn't talk to the lady from Priceline hung up on her two minutes into the conversation. So she came back in the phone with me wanted me to give Jackie the phone Jackie wouldn't talk to her. This went on for an hour. We only booked this hotel to swim in the pool well the pool had closed so that was out. I'm convinced that Jackie M was at fault for all of these issues I don't think she has any clue how to get the reservation that's why she was booking directly at the front desk. She had to swipe my card multiple times. She should be fired she has no idea how to do the job. Now to the hotel, we were in St Joe at the beach St Joe is very nice. However a few blocks away things turn bad and crime seems to run wild in Benton Harbor its a complete dump stay out at all cost unless you are looking for drugs or to get shot. This hotel is a dumb as well well below standards you'd expect from a BW. There was blood in the bathtub and everything had just seemed to be painted over and that layer of paint was starting to chip. I wouldn't recommend anyone stay here or in Benton Harbor. I emailed the hotel GM twice she said 4 days ago that she would address this issue and get back to me I haven't heard back. So for a summary this place is filthy rundown and has terrible customer service don't stay here and stay out of Benton Harbor all together.
Hotel has been kept up quite well. It has a rather interesting pool. Both indoor and outdoor. The staff was courteous and professional. The stay was all that I've come to expect from this brand. I would stay here again anytime.
My husband and I took our children to the beach for a short getaway. When we arrived we put our suitcases in our room and headed to the beach. We did not get back from the beach until almost 9 PM. At that time we went to give the kids a quick shower and that's when the nightmare began. We realized they hadn't cleaned the shower from the previous guest. There was a wash cloth, empty shampoo bottles, and body wash leftover. We thought it would be alright and we would notify the staff. From there we noticed there was URINE under the toilet seat, on the toilet bowl, and drips on the floor. We went to the front desk when we also found grass clippings in one of the beds. The front desk notified us that housekeeping was gone for the day and there was nothing they could do. We had tired kids otherwise we would have left. The next morning we go back to the front desk and request that our entire room be cleaned like a checkout so we would have fresh sheets and a complete cleaning. We were assured we would have a clean room. We arrived back at 7 IN THE EVENING! Our room had not been touched. Housekeeping knocked on the door about an hour later. They wanted to just grab the trash and towels. We asked them to change the sheets and clean the bathroom. When we came back from dinner we found the sheets HAD NOT been changed. We went and talked to the front desk again. We were assured the manager would call us that evening. We did not hear from the manager. In the morning before we left we notified them we were incredibly disappointed in their service. When we talked to the manager she accused us of harassment when we were nothing, but polite. The staff was rude and the hotel was dirty! DO NOT STAY HERE. No savings is worth the filth!
We stayed a single Saturday night in late June, and while demand for rooms no doubt contributed to the $203 a night charge, we felt the quality of the hotel was no where near the price charged. The hotel is about 4 miles from Lake Michigan so it isn't anywhere close to any of the local attractions, yet it was priced like a lakeside resort. When we checked in, we were given a room far down one wing of the hotel, -we unloaded all of our luggage and went to the room only to find it not made-up and in disarray. I asked for another room, and the woman at the front desk mumbled something about the hotel being completely sold-out as if she were fishing for a reaction from me before finally providing another room equally as far away at the other end of the hotel. Check-out the next morning was even worse, the young women at the counter was rude and unfriendly. A real snot. She desperately needs to find another line of work. Were I planning our trip over again, probably would have skipped the area altogether and driven an extra hour to find a more competitive location with better pricing and better service.
we stayed in this hotel for a wedding that was held at the blue dress barn. it was convenient for the wedding site and the price for a night was very reasonable on the group rate. the hot breakfast was very good. staff was friendly!
The room and amenities were good except the king bed mattress was hard and the coffee maker hadn't been cleaned. Spacious room, fridge with freezer and a microwave. No TV guide, but we figured out where most of the channels were. We were there for the Senior PGA so it was disappointing the hotel doesn't carry any network coverage. Breakfast was good. Higher price due to the tournament, but lower priced than a lot of area hotels. Quiet room, pool close by but it closes at 10.
Wonderful stay at a close location from Chicago area to enjoy Michigan. We will return. We love the St Joe area. Able to visit Saugatuck Mi. The weather was cooler and windy, but it did not keep us in or from long walks, good food, good drinks, and meeting nice people.
I was very satisfied with my stay. The building is unique. Not like other box hotels. It is a little older but the hotel is renovated and up to date. I would come back. Staff is older and nice. Smiles everywhere.
This was a group stay and the hotel did a good job of handling the housing. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The breakfast was good although they were not fully prepared for our group and thus were not keeping up with the food. Would definitely stay here again.
I would recommend this hotel to everyone. My family and I were impressed with the cleanliness of the hotel. The beds were clean and comfortable. The continental breakfast was good. The front desk and kitchen staff were very nice. We will definitely stay there whenever we are in Michigan again.
Hotel was very clean and newly remodeled. Check in staff went ABOVE and BEYOND to make our stay great! Rooms had very nice beds and linens. Bathroom was very clean and good size. Free breakfast was very nice for continental breakfast. Excellent stay and would recommend to anyone traveling in the area!
The hotel is nice and located at a convenient location off the highway. You can see it from the interstate. I liked the breakfast, it was warm and filling. I will stay again next time I am in the area.
Good location for us...close to I-94 but not too close. Price was great. Desk clerk was very friendly. Room was really large with a couch and two Queen beds. Breakfast was good. Overall a really good choice
Beds were great and spacious room. Staff was wonderful and fitness room equipment good quality. Hotel was close to good choice of Restaurants and shopping. Movie theater was nearby. Breakfast was good but for the 6 nights we stayed the
Nice hotel overall with excellent beds and pillows. Exercise room was sadly lacking with nonworking and worn out equipment. Also, internet speed was below average. Location was OK, but area was only so-so at best. Room was quiet. An electrical outlet for electric and hybrid-electric vehicle owners would be a nice addition.
My family and I stayed at this hotel on 04-06 till 04-08-2018. I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone. I left a bag of personal property in my 1st room as I transferred to my new room due to the noise level and doors being closed around my first room. I left a bag of personal property.in my first room. I called the front desk to report what I left in the room. I tried to recover my property within a half hour after changing rooms. I was told that the room had been cleaned. I tried to retrieve my property and I was told that my property was property of the hotel cleaning staff. This was not right and I cannot recommend anyone to stay at this hotel. This hotel does not have a policy in tact that will protect your property if you accidentally leave it.
The indoor pool was small, but it's connected to their outdoor pool [which was closed due to the season] but I think it's really cool. The Staff is awesome! We had issues with noisy neighbors and we actually got a small discount because of it. Housekeeping was so detail oriented in that after cleaning the room the first day, she saw what we needed and left extra of that. I thought that was awesome. The hotel is super close to a shopping strip which is awesome. There is a walmart basically across the road as well as rite aid, dollar store, and many other stores. As well as fast food. I would definitely stay here again.
Although there are several newly built hotels right nearby, they were all $40-50 more per night than BW. Since some friends were also staying at BW on the same weekend we decided to stay to. Nothing super special, but the rooms were clean, beds were comfortable and staff was nice. Typical breakfast with some fresh fruits, bagels, eggs, bacon/sausage, oatmeal, waffles. Temperature control was good and quiet. The only thing I really didn't like was the road noise from I-94. The newer hotels were just as close to the highway, so maybe they would have been more quiet but it wasn't worth spending an extra $100 for the weekend.
Worst experience at a hotel EVER! Terrible staff...do not care about you whatsoever. They treat the guests as burdens..they are lazy and clearly do not care about what they do for their jobs. Whoever the managers are need to be replaced to whip that place in shape.
The hotel is clean and the staff was very pleasant and helpful , the beds are super comfortable and the shower was nice . The Continental breakfast was really good and the Attendant was very sweet and friendly!
The rooms were very clean and comfortable. There were NO problems what so ever! It's easy access right off the highway, but still nice quiet rooms! The staff was very friendly also, even the night clerk! I would stay here again! ??
Good sized well appointed, clean and quiet room; easy access to local restaurants, shopping and the freeway; helpful and friendly staff - so all-in-all a pretty great motel. Although 20 minutes or so from the lake it was an easy drive to all the tourist locations.
We checked in and it was "alright". We paid $65 and it had clean room and bathroom. Staff was friendly and helpful. Never had breakfast at a hotel with paper plates, but food was good and there was a good variety of items.
Nice place, I enjoy staying here, and have many times. I will return again. The pool and fitness room are always in good shape. In the summer I like the indoor/outdoor pool! The breakfast is always good.
I was wrongly accuse of smoking in my room, just because I did not want maid service to interupt me and my lady friend. I thought this act was very disrespectful, of $250.00 charged to me for something I did not do!!!!!
Friendly and concerned staff, comfortable bed, nice breakfast, great location near the movie theatre, easy parking, all rooms in one building, gave me a toothbrush and toothpaste when I needed one, good room temperature control.
Room was clean and comfortable. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Would stay again breakfast was ( just ok ) but it was complimentary so cant complain. We tried to use pool and hot tub area but for some reason it was extremely hot and steamy and pool water was way to warm. Maybe next time ??
The bed was super comfortable. The room darkening Shades were top rate. All the employees that I dealt with were very friendly and helpful. I slept great but the rooms were a little bit noisy. I really didn't use the wifi very much but my friend did and she had problems with it.
This hotel needs to work on cleanliness and customer service, especially with the new hotels around. Jennifer at the front desk is a waste. When my toilet flooding she did not initial offer a different room. I had to demand one. My vacation was interrupted dealing with this. She was not apologetic at all and made it almost seem as if the inconvenience of changing rooms was my fault. They need to wash all of their bedding. Not just the comforters. I think renovations need to be revisited. I will no longer stay here, but go up the street to one of the newer hotels. Lesson learned. You get what you pay for and honestly the other hotels are not much more expensive.
This was my second time staying at Best Western this year. The location is conveniently located near several eateries and major stores. The staff was very courteous, helpful and attentive. The rooms were immaculate, spacious and the bedding was wonderful. I will definitely stay here once again.
It was a very nice stay and my children enjoyed the swimming pool and I enjoyed the hot tub. Breakfast was abundant on choices and replenished diligently by the staff. Check in was a little slow but I believe they were in between shifts so it was understandable. Checking out was a breeze and had a great overall stay
Stayed 9 days at this Best Western for a business trip. I have also stayed at 3 of the other area hotels in the area on past trips to Benton Harbor, this hotel has consistently provided a pleasant experience.
Best Western came through again! Clean, comfortable bed, great location, great price, and a delicious breakfast! Staff wonderful! I was very happy with this hotel! Glad I found it! Will be back on my next trip.
A remodeled BW. Friendly and clean. As a road warrior we look for hotels who welcome the weary, put us in a clean quiet room and make our stay as pleasant as possible. This does all of that and a good breakfast as well.
Stayed here for a weekend wedding. Staff was very nice to interact with, rooms were clean, complimentary breakfast much better than I was expecting (great selection, freshly cooked, omelets, bacon/sausage, French toast, waffles, pastries, juices, fresh fruit etc). My only negative was that I found the bed a bit uncomfortable but other family members thought it was fine.
was a good stay, not the top rated place but clean and comfortable. pool small but clean and warm. hot tub almost too hot. they serve free breakfast though we did not eat there. couple of restaurants walking distance but no sidewalks in area. easy to find site.
One elevator. Rooms are in long hallways on 2 separate sides. Right next to a freeway. The entry at the end stairwell was broken. Access to get my stuff in and out was not convenient. The lock on my door wouldn't lock. It was very late and I made the choice not to report it. The night clerk was friendly. The morning staff seemed unorganized and chaotic. The morning clerk was running up the stairs when I wanted to check out and yelled out, what is your room number and just leave the keys on the desk. I smelt burning and saw smoke coming from the breakfast area. I got in my my car to leave and an employee came out and started smoking right in front of the entrance. Needless to say, I did not leave with a positive impression.
Booked this hotel online through a third party site. The staff were all very welcoming and kind - from front desk and housekeeping to the ladies cooking breakfast. Everyone was lovely. The location left a little to be desired.... unless you want to shop at Wal-Mart. Our room could have been cleaner (the mirrors were a mess) but it was nice to have a fridge and microwave in three room. Again.... for the price, the hotel was ok, but could have been better.
We stayed here as part of a family weekend stay in the area. If you prioritize value, then you can't go wrong with this hotel. It is older than some of the others right down the street but has been very well maintained and has all of the conveniences you would expect in a modern hotel. If you prioritize ultra-modern styling and decor, then there are other more expensive hotels right down the street. It worked well for our family and I would have no concerns staying there again. The room was clean and had 2 queen beds, large new flat screen television, microwave and a nicer than average fridge including a small freezer. Support staff were super friendly and approachable. Breakfast had typical continental offerings but also omelettes and some hot breakfast meats too. They were also super helpful maneuvering food allergy concerns which was a big plus for us and that alone was worth the stay.
The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. It did have a nice size fridge. Pool and hot tub were very nice and clean. Breakfast was just ok. It was cold and I would have rather had biscuits and gravy. I would have liked to see maybe donuts offered for little ones.
Very nice hotel, our whole wedding party was satisfied with the experience. Nice warm pool, the kids loved it. The staff was attentive and respectful of our needs. Really nice pizza place not too far away called Joey C's, suggested to us by the front desk.
This is a Best Western Plus and everything about it is very good. Hot breakfast, beds and pillows, counter space, shower head flow, room size. And nice staff. The pool is really nice in that it goes from inside to outside which makes it fun for kids. I highly recommend this hotel.
Upon check-in, the line was almost out the door and only 1 person was working the front. This is on a day that multiple weddings have their parties booked here and there was limited scheduled transportation for the guests to take to the wedding venues (bride/groom planned, not hotel). With such a time crunch and high volume of ppl checking in, there should have been at least 2 people at the front desk. With this wait, we ended up missing the trolley by just a few minutes and when we asked for help getting a taxi, they said they could not help us but we could call some in the room. Hmmmm. Late at night while going to bed, it also sounded like a herd of elephants were fighting and then moving furniture around for a good hour. It was insanely loud, to the point where I thought maybe someone was in danger. No voices, just crazy banging. Startling when trying to fall asleep, but it was better us in that room than other guests I imagine, since we stayed up until around 1. But the poor rating most comes from having experienced something I have never experienced in all my years of travel. As mentioned, we were here for a wedding so most people were returning to this hotel late at night. Needless to say, 10 AM comes fast to most people that are there celebrating and I can say that most of my friends didn't even make it up anywhere close to breakfast hours. Anyhow, I set my alarm for 9:50 because I knew my husband and I would need food to feel better after the long night. I arrived in the bfast room at 9:54 AM. I was looking around trying to find anything to put food on to, so that I could take it to the room, but could find nothing. I was desperate to find a cup to put the waffle batter in so I could at least get something to soak up our insides, but the woman taking food away would not pay attention to me. I did not get her name because I knew she wouldn't give it to me...she'd already ignored all my questions and requests. I was standing in front of the waffle machine and she came over and while I continue to ask her, trying to get ANY response, she took her body weight and shoved me aside so she could take the machine apart. I was appalled. Getting physical with a guest??? It was so blatant, uncalled for and just plain wrong. And she pretended as if nothing happened because nobody else saw. I was simply, politely asking for a cup. And there were 2 other women also asking for plates to get food to take back. There were still some sausages and hard boiled eggs out, 2 pastries and a couple yogurts, but no serve ware or plates. One other woman said her watch said 9:57, as mine said 9:56. The woman who's name I did not get because I was about to see red and I didn't want to make a scene, just continued to take stuff to the back. Another staff-member, older and smaller, came out and said they were going to close in just a couple of minutes, so technically it was still open. Obviously, it wasn't 10:00 AM yet. This was a Sunday morning, when the hotel was fully booked. That might just required a few extra minutes..not to mention, it's their job. I strongly believe this is something that shouldn't allow for a 2nd chance, there is no job where pushing a guest and ignoring them and NOT doing your job, should be tolerated. This breakfast was included in the high rate of this hotel and we didn't even get any of it..even following the 'rules'. I am truly sickened by the action that took place and this uncalled for hostility.
We always stay at Best Western and this time was no diff. We stayed there do to our sons wedding. We got there and where given the wrong room they changed us with out the blink of a eye. They where very nice and moved us right away and we got the room we needed for the 4 of us. Very clean and would stay there again. Room was clean as can be and the fridge worked great to hold my water and meds in.
They get 3 stars, the stay was good and the staff was super perky and refreshingly nice. But there were a couple things they could improve for sure. 1st - Our room didn't completely face the highway but you could hear the cars with the window closed. It was rather loud all night long. 2nd - They need more towels! We had 4 people for our reservation, but only 3 sets of towels in the room. When we went to the pool there were no towels! We were told the pool was popular that day. - Great, we'll drip our way back to our rooms w/o towels? If the pool is buys, maybe wash some towels to put more out? Just a thought. 3rd - Get to breakfast early cause once it's out it's out Too bad. Usually you ask they will refresh the food, felt like we were given the leftovers when we arrived. Hotel is clean and cute on the inside, but needs a little finesses to make it nicer, and a bit more user friendly. When I asked about the travel brochures for the area the gal nicely told me they were gone cause it'd been a busy season, so we found them at another hotel instead. Beds were comfy and the AC/Heat worked wonderfully.
Staff was very friendly and hotel was clean & beds comfy. Breakfast was good, I personally prefer more fruit and would love to have gluten free options. Would stay again. Easy to get to from Berrien Springs Fairgrounds.
Maybe it's the time of year or the location, but I thought all of the sort of "medium priced" hotels in this area were on the expensive side. That being said, the Best Western was a good choice. The reception staff was very nice, got us an early check in - which we appreciated. The AC worked well in the room, the bed was VERY comfortable. The bed was as good as a Marriott or high end Hilton - which is really the main reason for going to a hotel anyway. The breakfast was adequate. Our only regret was that we didn't bring our swimming suits, the pool looked very inviting as it was both indoors and out. If you are looking to enjoy the quaintness of Saint Joseph, but aware that it's about 15 minutes away from the hotel.
This hotel is very nice. It has a pool and hot tub. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good too. We had a few dirt stains on our shower curtain but otherwise the room was good. Very comfortable beds. Could use a little work in the pool area but still a great and popular feature of this hotel. I would stay again.
One of the cleanest and well-run hotels in which I have ever stayed. The staff was very helpful, and the amenities were better than i expected. The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast buffet was very good and well stocked.
Very nice stay. I try not to be too picky about things my only requirements are the room must be clean as well as the bathroom and shower, the room we had excelled in both. The only reason I didn't give it a five is because for some very light sleepers traffic noise might be a problem as we were adjacent to the highway. Would highly recommend this hotel.
Stayed here for a visit to Lake Michigan lake shore. Hotel was very clean and seemed to have been recently renovated. Bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was good and the breakfast attendant was friendly and outgoing. The hotel is right off the interstate. The neighborhood could have been better, but it did not feel unsafe. There is a nice movie theater just down the street that has $5 movies all day on Tuesday. Very good value.
This was the most expensive hotel we have stayed at for the past few years. We expected more. The bed was comfortable enough but those little side things like a broken closet that we couldn't get hangers from or a TV without any guide .... little things that were frustrating.
Hotel is really clean and staff is super nice and helpful. We went as a big group of 28 people and the staff was very nice to us, they did their best to make us feel happy. We always wanted to stay together and for sure there was no room that can fit us all to sit together, so they turned on the lights in the breakfast area so we can all sit there and chat. To feel welcomed and appreciated makes everything goes smotth!
They've remodeled this hotel and the rooms are Very Clean, beds are super comfy and I stay at Best Westerns because a lot of them have Indoor/Outdoor pools in the Midwest. There's Nothing worse than staying at a hotel in the middle of summer and being in an indoor pool!! Ugggh!! The staff is always Super nice and the lady that takes care of the breakfast is Great and it's a Pretty good breakfast too. :)
We stayed here for two nights while on vacation in St. Joseph. The room had standard amenities, but was little small. Pool area is very small compared to other Best Westerns we have been to. Breakfast was ok, nothing spectacular and pretty standard for hotel breakfasts. The major disappointment was how poorly our room was cleaned/prepared. We registered 4 guests and received three bath towels, not a big deal but annoying. The second day, same thing, again not a huge deal but annoying. When we got back to our room after our second day I was disappointed to find that the garbage had not been emptied and the floor in the bathroom was not cleaned. In general the rooms were not very well cleaned, we found this to be true in almost all areas of the hotel.
Overall okay. Outdated--needs refurbish, but clean. Breakfast eggs awful. Staff very nice and helpful. Have stayed at several Best Western hotels across country--this one was lower standard than expected.
Overall, I mostly enjoyed my one-night stay at this hotel. The price was above average, but the room decor was up-to-par & the bed was comfortable. I was most impressed with the breakfast. The items were typical of most Best Westerns, but there seemed to be a special touch from the kitchen staff...as in the food was actually seasoned. I did have a problem with a broken iron replaced with another broken iron. However, I would stay here again.
I gave an excellent because whenever you can get a clean room and free wifi and comfortable bed - for this price, it should be excellent. We were only there one night, but it was great. Comfortable and clean. Pool didn't look that inviting to me, but people were in it and seemed to enjoy. Again, only one night so didn't experience any other ementities
The indoor/outdoor pool was a draw for my 8 year old. When we arrived, we were disappointed to see that the pool was GREEN and very murky. You could not see the bottom. The lady at the front desk stated that they had shocked the pool but it didn't work. The next morning I was ready to check out and the front desk person told me it was from the rain and the pool was safe, so we stayed. That night the pool was closed for 4 hours for "cleaning". We swam afterwards in the green muck because my son insisted as there were others in the pool. The next morning a guest told me that he overheard the pool maintenance people talking about the chemicals were off. We did not swim that day. Very disappointed that we were lied to about this!
Recently stayed at this location at the beginning of a Lake Michigan Circle Tour. The facility met my needs but the decor is dated. As Best Western continues their makeovers I expect this facility will receive upgrades.
The toilet was running in the room and wouldnt always flush. When i called the desk they said the maintence man was ill so couldn't be fixed that night. No biggie. The next night when we came back the toilet was still not fixed. When i asked the desk they said " oh yes, we were waiting for you to switch rooms". They never informed me i needed to move , just expected me to guess. We switched and put the kids to bed. The next morning i realized the bathroom still had dirty wash rags ,(with gross hair on them) hanging on the shower rod. I sought out the manager becaue i was completely grossed out and he was annoyed to be pulled away from his pool cleaning duties. He smarted off to me but promised at 10 am my room would be cleaned spotless .i was afraid many corners had been cut and wantwd the sheets changed and all. I left to take kids to breakfast elswhere because the kids begged me not to make them eat the breakfast provided again. The food was horrible. I killed time while out so they would have time to clean the room. We came back at 11:30 to give the kids a bath. Room was still dirty. Kiddos fell asleep . Cleaning lady walked into the room without knocking at 12:30. We left. I informed the cleaning lady i was leaving so she could now go clean. Came back about 7:30. I was horrifed to fins the beds unmade and the wash rags still hanging in the bathroom. Front desk had me switch rooms for the third time. I witnessed man walk onto a room he had juat rented only to find it already occupied. Leading me to question the hotels securlty. I will not be back.
This hotel did not meet my standards. The lobby and hallways all appeared dated, the wood paneling looked aged and in need of a refresh. I booked two rooms, two double beds and a king. The king bed was not close to a king, at best it was possibly a queen. The pool was horrendous. The water was green, cloudy, and had lots of floating debris. Lake Michigan was cleaner. The water in the pool was also very cold. The breakfast are had its own issues. I understand the hotel does not advertise as a restaurant but the size of the breakfast ares was insufficient to serve the guests booked. I also had an encounter with the attendant during breakfast. She was extremely rude, becoming increasingly hostile. I was attempting to get juice in a coffee cup since the coffee cup is insulated and keeps the beverage cooler longer as well as it also has a lid which i use for my children. She told me I could not use the coffee cup for juice and could give me no explanation as to why. I have stayed in multiple hotels in multiple areas and never had this issue before. This was the first time I had stayed in a Best Western and until my stay was under the impression that the chain was somewhat upscale. I generally stay with Drury Inns or Holiday Inns when we travel, Drury was unavailable locally and Holiday Inn had few rooms available. My stay in Best Western was the best advertising they could have.
Arrived back at hotel to fimd our room uncleaned. Shower has no soap dish or anywhere to put soap, shampoo. No mat for outside shower. Bathroom generally very unclean. Don't waste ur time on "free" beakfast. McDonalds down the street.
My two older daughters and I stayed at the hotel for 4 days. When we first arrived, the hotel was clean, nicely decorated and staff was friendly. Our first room that had 2 queen beds had nice decor and super comfortable beds. Then it went down hill. The only bathroom outlet wasn't working, so we notified the front desk to get it fixed. We were told by several staff no one had seen the handyman that day. Eventually we were offered to be moved to the Presidential suite at no extra cost to us because they had no other room available with 2 queen beds( there were three of us). Sounded nice! Well, the light in the bathroom above one sink was out, other light dull, vent was hanging from ceiling, placemats on table were dirty with leftover food and it was a King bed with a pull out couch. My poor daughter sleep on the pull out couch with a too thin mattress. Couch bed was pulled out but no sheets, when I called the front desk to inquire about having the bed made, the girl was not very friendly and rudely said "Aren't they in the closet or drawer?" I checked and they were but without pillow cases. It was odd making up my daughters bed in a hotel. The free breakfast was good, but each day they ran out of different food. Only one lady working the kitchen area so we often had long waits to get to certain foods or wait for new batches to come out. The Indoor pool and hot tub were discolored and smelled horrible and disgusting. My daughters went in the hot tub for ten minutes only and got out due to the rancid smell. Went to the outdoor pool which seemed fine and no smell. That night both daughters had bumps all over their stomach. One daughter's bump went away the next day, other daughter still has them all over her stomach. Doc said it was most likely from being in the hot tub Next day, the hot tub was out of order! Was told by one staff the only handyman was on vacation for the rest of the week so couldn't replace the bulb in the bathroom. I guess that's why no one saw him the day before. Every day there was someone different at the front desk and none of them knew anything about any problems we asked to get addressed. At checkout, there was someone different again, so I explained why we were moved by the hotel staff. Paid my bill and upon walking out noticed I was over charged several hundred dollars. Went back in and finally the manger came out of the room next to the desk and only after I got upset about being charged the Presidential suite rate did the manager Ken finally take care of it. What a huge disappointment. This was not run like other Best Western Hotels I've been in before. They will not get my business or my friend's business in the future. Choice a different hotel!
Nice place to stay. Clean and close enough to St Joes to do and see things. We were treated very well. Any questions that we asked were responded to with plenty of information. It will be a place that we will return too in the future.
Took my Dad back to his childhood vacation spot. He loved going back to Sister's Lakes and seeing what was the same and all that has changed. The Best Western worked out perfect for our trip. Thanks again.
good choice, close to beach and restaurants. nice pool, good place for families. Clean and quiet. could use a dedicated smoking area. Nice having available coffee and access to internet station. complementary newspaper was nice.
I appreciated the location (right off the highway and close to stores and restaurants) of this facility. It features a large pool and a fitness center. The price of the rooms we booked were competitive and attractive. Our rooms were contemporary and very clean. Nice option when staying in Benton Harbor.
Not the cleanest hotel, pool was old, small and cold. Beds are new and room new. Sub par selection of snacks at the desk. We paid $110 per night for two nights. Pay a little more and find somewhere one star nicer. BW are trying a comeback and they've done ok but the upgrade at this hotel felt somewhat unfinished. Also from the area I drove Benton Harbor is run down and in complete disrepair. St. Joe is where the nicer town is and all the activities for your family are there.
This was our first visit to this hotel in Benton Harbor. The reception desk clerk greeted me upon check in with a warm smile. The check in process was seamless and she told me about hours for the swimming pool and hours for breakfast in the morning. The reception area was beautiful and decorated with style. We had a room with 2 queen beds and the beds were wonderful with lovely linens. The room was spacious with a easy chair where I could enjoy my morning coffee. A wide screen TV, fridge, writing desk and microwave completed the room. We are coming back through on Friday but chose a different hotel because the Best Western for that evening had jumped it's prices by an additional $70. The hotel is gorgeous, the staff friendly and the beds comfy!! Would definitely stay here again if the price is right!!
Motel was clean, breakfast food okay but service was excellant, availability of linens (towels) was low. Overall a really nice place to stay. Pool area was clean. It was 10 min. to Silver Beach at St Joseph, MI.
We enjoyed the stay. Updated, contemporary rooms. Very clean. Close to attractions, shopping and restaurants. It was a good room at a good price for visiting St. Joe. I don't know what else to add to get the required number of characters!
We really enjoyed our trip to Michigan and we spent two days in St joesph benton harbor. This is a older hotel but has been redone. Room was clean and decent sized. We didnt do breakfast but the pool was nice.
Great Place to Stay after spending a day at Saint Joseph, Michigan watching the fireworks! Would definitely come back to stay when we are in the area! Budget friendly but still a wonderful clean place to come to after a long day at the beach!
Easy to find, easy check in. Place was clean, rooms were good size. Bathrooms had everything you needed. I thought the bed was nice and comfortable. They had an indoor pool that connected to the outside, also a hot tub. The only thing I thought needed improvement was the breakfast. I've had much better quality at other BW, and while it was steady busy, the staff, while very friendly, seemed overwhelmed. Checkout was a breeze. One last thing, thought the rate was a bit high, but we were there on a Saturday, and it seemed in line with other hotels in the area. Might just be the time of year and the area.
We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of this hotel for the price. It is very updated even with a pool lift for persons with disabilities. Room was very clean and sharp and I slept great which is usually a challenge for me in hotels. The continental breakfast was amazing and we loved chatting with Cheryl, the very sweet and joyful breakfast area staff member.
This hotel is one exit down the highway from the St. Joe exit. If you are going to Silver Beach or St. Joes Michigan, this is a very clean and satisfying hotel. It has an nice indoor/outdoor pool and hot tub. The breakfast is typical for continental style and staff brought out replacement food when needed.
Perfect area...very nice staff! Beautiful town and setup! Suggest anyone to stay. Family oriented and fun. Only issue was the entrance door in my room and the tv remote didn't would half the time. Minor items!
Just a one night stay here on our trip to Mackinac. This must be a brand new hotel or been entirely renovated because it's spotless. A bit of confusion at check in but it was rectified promptly. It was an unremarkable but satisfactory stay.
My family and I had a good experience here. Rooms were nice, as well was the pool. Staff also provided excellent care as Reginald the attendant was went the extra mile to make me and my wife's stay a memorable one. Only reall issue was the breakfast as it left a lot to be desired. However besides that small issue it's a good place to take a break if you're on vacation
Out of toilet paper, out of wash clothes, and the sink doesn't drain. Will be looking for another hotel if we visit st.joseph again. When we were checking in a delivery man took it upon himself to pick up our 19 month old son because he was in his way. completely scared my wife.
Good stop over to break journey, nice pool area, all the fire doors were wedged open, breakfast just okay. 5 mins from interstate, near Lake Michigan. Friendly staff, beds comfortable but a little high
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The whole place was clean and nicely decorated. The off season rate was excellent which is what drew us in. The pool was neat with the inside/outside swimming option. I would thoroughly recommend staying here. It's also one of the better 'free' breakfasts I've had. The breakfast person definitely put 'love' into the breakfast.
It was a great stay. The staff was friendly and the rooms were clean, beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was good, great coffee and the breakfast staff was very accomodating and effcient. I would highly recommend.
Overall excellent. This hotel is very clean and peacefull location. Staff of the hotel is very courteous. Very convenient location all around the shopping area. Online booking is also very easy. I recommend to all business users to use this hotel for their stay.
This hotel is a great find at a pretty good price. It has a larfe bar fridge and microwave. The rooms look as though they have just been renovated and has nice furniture and comfortable beds. It has a pool area but we did not have time to use the facility. I would definitely go back to that hotel.
Staff on check in were so friendly and very fast we got a room right away and we asked for a good and close place to eat....they recommended cravings and it was great! Would stay there again if ever in that area and would recommend to family and friends!
We booked this hotel based on price compared to others in the area. We made the right choice. The hotel is clean, comfortable, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The kids swam in the pool indoor/outdoor, which is small but the kids had a great time. We did not use the gym. The free breakfast was the typical hotel fare: good, not fancy. Can't say enough about the staff here from housekeeping to management everyone was friendly and went above and beyond.
Rooms were nicely updated, beds were very comfortable and it is located near all the hot spots. We did not get to use the pool, workout room or other amenities due to a late arrival time. The pool looked very nice and was an indoor/outdoor pool with hot tub.
I reserve this hotel based on value - it was cheaper than others in the area. But the place was great. The room was excellent & the staff was super. I had a great stay. The only negative I have is that the area isn't a good place to go for a walk. I'd definitely go back. Side note: I left an electric device. They promptly mailed it to me - I was very grateful.
Stayed one night, king bed with sofa.It was an immaculately clean room, very spacious, modern and updated, very quiet with a nice breakfast. Overall, great accommodations, although the room advertised as non-smoking but smelled slightly of smoke. The restaurants surrounding the property leave something to be desired but the hotel was great with competitive prices and a good breakfast. Would recommend.
Room was modern, updated, immaculately clean and had a very comfortable bed. Very quite, nice property with a good breakfast. Had a problem with bathroom electrical outlet. Room smelled of smoke. Front desk staff (Jackie) was very professional, helpful, friendly.
This is one of the nicest BW I have ever stayed at. Beautiful lobby and rooms. The best part was the treatment we received by Tiara and Ms. Jackie! It is walking distance to many restaurants and a short drive to the lake. The continental breakfast was very good, nice and fresh and clean.
This is the best Best Western I have stayed at. Great employees. Beautiful hotel. Very good buffet breakfast. Indoor/outdoor pool is a nice touch. Continue down Niles Avenue to the downtown shopping and Silverbeach area.
Thanks for the best western and the workers for this great place in Michigan I m so lucky I spent my time here and I wish all the Hotels nice and clean lake best western I will recommend this Hotels to all my friends and family
This is a great hotel, the people are so friendly and helpful! The room is nice, it was raining a lot, so we had ants in our room, they moved us to another room all was good! Will stay again! Breakfast was good too.
everything was nice not one thing to complain about, clean great employees, bed compy, you cant go wrong i didnt get a chance to use everything the hotel offered but what i used it was very nice, i would recommed
Stayed here on our way to Chicago and for the price $82 for a King bed it was really good. Located close to the highway, a number of restaurants nearby and a few stores. They have a nice pool and free breakfast. Rooms are clean , bed is comfortable. Good values.
Love this location and the service was wonderful. Beautiful balconies and gorgeous view of the river and the fall foliage. This one is on my list to revisit! The rooms are spacious and well appointed, and the design of the building in unique.
The Hotel and the rooms was very Clean and the Staff was friendly. Coffee was always available at all times. The Breakfast was good they offered cheese omelettes, french toast, sausage, biscuits & gravy we stayed for 5 days and it would of been nice to have a combinations of bacon and scrambled eggs some days but all in all the staff member was right there to assist you and replace the items that was empty.
Beautiful interior with new carpet and freshly painted rooms. Good location near I 94 in between St. Joe and Benton Harbor. All of the staff members we encountered were friendly and courteous. I always stay at Best Westerns and this hotel was one of the nicest.
The Benton Harbor Best Western is fantastic! Beautiful, newly remodeied spacious rooms, comfy beds, and a great value! We love this place. There's nowhere in the BH-SJ area to find a room this nice for under $100. They also offer free breakfast in the morning. The entire building is really impressive, the staff is always friendly and professional, and the rooms are very comfortable.
Went to the Steelhead 70.3, stayed at the hotel, they do their best to make us feel at home, even prepared a breakfast at 4:30 am for the participants. Help us to take a shower afterwards eventhoug the check out was earlier. Will always recommed and come back, cause this town is beautiful and the hotel is like staying at my uncle's home, with a better bed jaja. Because of the 70.3 the rate was a lot more expensive than usual.
I'm pretty skeptical of hotels that I have not stayed in, especially areas I'm not familiar with. This hotel and area were completely fine! The hotel was clean, professional and I enjoyed staying. The area was easy on/off x-way, what I consider a "good" clean area. Many restaurants and stores close by (within walking distance). As a female traveling alone for work, I would stay here again and have already recommended the hotel to others.
Nice and clean; handy to restaurants and any necessary shopping. Didn't use the pool but it looked very inviting. Breakfast very nice (typical for most Best Western's). Would recommend anytime. Quite for being so close to freeways.
Met friends in town for the Piano Boys concert at the local college, Lake Michigan College at the Mendel Center. Best Western was located one exit away so it is in a perfect location. Shopping for last minute items are minutes away, Wamart, Meijer are very close as well as restaurants. So easy to get on and off the I-94 freeway and to the hotel. We did have breakfast at the hotel, eggs and sausage were hot and fresh. Had yogurt for a dessert.
The hotel has been recently updated. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The breakfasts are very good. I used this hotel for wedding guests. The staff was incompetent in handling the reservations. I advise staying on top of the reservations to be sure they are accurate and that the guests all have rooms when they check in. All of the wedding guests were complimentary regarding their accommodations.
Came up to go apple picking with my son. I have stayed here under the previous ownership and it wasn't THIS bad. Literally just checked in. The front desk person was sitting in the common area, on his phone. Seriously? We get in the room and at first (in the dark) it seemed ok. Once the lights came on, the creepy feeling that I should have stayed elsewhere sunk in. The floor has not been vacuumed or shampooed in well, forever. See photos. Food on the floor. Food in fridge. I don't even want to remove my shoes. Huge cobwebs around the window. My view speaks for itself. The arms of the couch are filthy. The bathroom floor is nasty. The dust is further proof that the rooms are NOT being cleaned. Hair in the bathroom making me seriously nauseous. Thank heaven it's only one night and I will NEVER be back.
I chose this hotel due to the outdoor pool. Check in was good. Room was nice size. I liked having a refrigerator. There was also a large comfy chair for watching tv. Breakfast was good. Plenty of options...little omelets, sausage, waffles, hard boiled eggs, oatmeal, yogurt, etc. The pool is indoor/outdoor....you can swim under the glass to get to the outdoor pool. I enjoyed reading by the outdoor pool in the morning. I requested late check out and was given until noon. I would have preferred later but oh well. I will stay here again next time I'm in the area.
Beds and pillows were comfortable. Staff was friendly. Our sons enjoyed the pool. Breakfast was good but you had to get there early. The coffee was delicious. The drive to Silver Beach was short. The fridge was a nice amenity. Grocery stores and restaurants extremely close.
This hotel was very clean and comfy. From the bed to the pillows to the towels, I was very pleased. The only disappointment was the pool. It hadn't been skimmed or treated for algae and was filled with both. The area around it was clean just not the water.
Granted we were only there for 1 night, but the room was clean, the bed was comfortable and a short ride to downtown Saint Joseph. Hit the Complimentary Breakfast Early for greater variety and availability of food items, and less people traffic.
Shared a room with cousins, for family event. Typical roadside hotel, clean and comfortable. Breakfast provided, but nothing like a real breakfast. It was pretty expensive for what it is. It's about five miles to St. Joseph beach and lovely downtown, with nothing to walk to except a Walmart and other urban sprawl type places.
The staff that greeted us was very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and comfortable. We found that our room was also quite, which we were happy about because we needed a good nights rest. There were some restaurants near by but not within walking distance.
Sufficient accommodations near restaurants. Room was clean and comfortable Had a good night's sleep. We were able to book the day we arrived which was around July 4th holiday time. Staff was efficient.
Booked same day of stay because all hotels in St. Joes were sold out. Drove through a terrible area to get there from downtown St. Joes', so I'd definitely advise ignoring your GPS and sticking to the highway. Fan in bathroom was ridiculously loud. Nothing good or bad to report, what you would expect from a Best Western. Right on the highway (road noise)
We will never stay here again. We stayed in the presidential suite. For what we paid for this room (disappointed) Big is all positive. Un-finished updates, lights burnt out, lights go out on there on & back on again, we had to go get toilet paper b4 we could use the bathroom, the shower floor I thought was to fall threw, when I sat in one off the chairs I starting getting itchy, too much wasted space, kids running the halls & screaming!
I was in town for a family event and was surprised at the number of new hotels in Benton Harbor/St. Joseph. We chose the Best Western because it was the best value in the area at $199 per night with breakfast included. I thought the price was ridiculously high for the area but I needed a room. I wanted to give high marks for the cleanliness of the rooms but the breakfast left a bad taste in my mouth (no pun intended). The dining area for is extremely cramped and will accommodate maybe 30 people. I was there over a weekend when the hotel was at max capacity. On our second morning, which was a Sunday, we went down for breakfast a little before 9am. On the first morning they had the typical breakfast items: make your own waffles, hot & cold cereals, eggs, breakfast meats and a variety of breads & muffins. There was also fruit, yogurt, coffee, tea and juices. We went down a little earlier on Saturday so there was plenty of food before the crowd came in. On Sunday however, they were completely out of just about everything. There was no waffle mix ready, no fruit, no muffins, no eggs and no breakfast meats. The hash-browned potatoes were under cooked and could not be eaten. We waited at least 30 minutes and none of these items ever came out. Breakfast is over at 10am so I figured they were not going to replenish. Needless to say I was disappointed and outraged that I was spending $199 per night and still had to go out to purchase my own breakfast. There were a number of people complaining as well. What outraged me even more was during check out I mentioned the breakfast fiasco to the assistant manager Amanda and she just said, "oh really?" She did not offer any type of apology or anything for the inconvenience to my wallet. I don't understand how the hotel could be at max capacity and not have enough food to serve its guests.
Rooms were fairly priced, clean, and the beds were super comfortable. The indoor/outdoor pool was a lot of fun, too! I stayed here with three friends and we found the location to be nice (about 15 minutes' drive from the beach, and close to several restaurants and a Meijer).
No frills but nice check-in & out staff, adequate breakfast, decent room w/ freezer/refrigerator, & microwave. Bed not the most comfortable but I've paid more for less quality elsewhere. Overall, worth the money spent. I'd return.
We decided, at the last minute, to spend an extra night in Michigan on our way home to Chicago. The Best Western was available, very conveniently located near the expressway entrance, clean and comfortable. Very friendly staff and the breakfast had a good assortment from which to choose.
The hotel was just remodel, everything was new and clean, If you are looking for a decent hotel , this would be it, Only thing that i was dissatisfy in was the breakfast, you did have choices to chose from, Nothing really healthy to chose, could of use more fresh fruit, and a variety of eggs to chose from . the hotel was close to downtown, abt 20 min drive. I would come back and stay here again, if we plan on visiting St. Joe.
We stayed July 5 through 8. We got everything unpacked and settled, only to have a bug crawling on the bedside table. I grabbed a tissue and a zip loc and captured the critter. I brought it to the front desk attendant (Harold I think we his name). It resembled a bed bug in some ways. After researching on my own after, I am not sure it was. They did allow is to move into a room on the opposite side of the hotel. I wasn't about to stay in the first room. After repacking our belongings and food for the week back up, we proceeded to the new room. Upon entering, the main hallway light (you know, where you tend to keep things and where the full length mirrors are)....was not working. I reported it to the front desk staff. They promised to have maintenence look at it. As we left for the lake the next morning, I reminded the desk staff that our light needed to be looked at. Again, a promise it would be looked at. Upon return after a day on the beach, I was disappointed to find the light not repaired. I returned back to the desk and asked about it. The maintenance Saif the light fixture needed replaced entirely. So with three females in a room, we had very little space to get ready. I did not want to pack our room up again and transfer to another room. I said okay, and returned to our room. Upon check-out, the price that I had reserved the room for, was incorrect. They informed me it was Expedia's error, but that they would give the room to me for the price I reserved it for. All of the incidents by themselves, sound petty; however, it was one issue after another. I just wanted to kick back and relax and not have to worry about things. They never did tell me if the bug was a bed bug or not. As bed bugs develop, they look different, so I could not decide. I would think that was something a hotel would make sure that their guest who found it....knew what they found out. They gave me a $20 discount for our inconveniences. Reloading an entire room of 3 people's clothes, food, bottled water, and bathroom items, was an ordeal. Had it not been for all of that, I would have insisted on a different room when the light wouldn't work. In all, the hotel was okay. I do sound like a complainer but I feel that small things add up and I do want to see a report of what the bug was or if it was ever investigated.
We just came back from a 2 day stay. The hotel was just fine. Breakfast had a variety of choices. It was crowded on the weekend but that is to be expected. The hotel was clean and comfortable. We will return there again next year if the price stays the same.
This was a very nice place to stay. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The staff was helpful and friendly. The breakfast was nothing special. I have had better but I have also had much worse. I used the computer in the lobby and it was very good and quite fast. I didn't see anyplace close to eat, but I wasn't really looking for that.
Came to visit the St. Joe's area during the 4th of July weekend. This hotel is right off the exit with everything around the area. It's about a 15 min ride to St.Joe's beach and town. Includes a connecting outdoor pool. Had a nice sauna, and handicap lift! Best of all free breakfast! Great staff and exceptionally clean during the holiday. I would come back.
Reserved a block of rooms for a wedding nearby the Best Western in Benton Harbor, Michigan. We found the staff very organized, helpful, and willing to stay connected prior to our stay to answer our many questions. Upon arrival, they were ready for our group. During our stay they were wonderfully accommodating. The front desk help, the kitchen help, and the housekeeping staff were always going the extra mile to be sure we had a great experience. Rooms were clean, internet worked well, pool area clean, and conference room was clean and convenient for our big meeting area. Highly recommend this hotel!!
We were in St. Joseph for a wedding. This hotel with local/state taxes charged us almost $250/night. For a Best Western this is exceptionally expensive. The rooms have been updated, the complimentary breakfast was nice. However on Sat. the staff could not keep up with the number of people trying to get something to eat. Virtually every serving dish was empty. The hotel backs up to the Interstate and the rooms are not well sound proofed so a lot of traffic noise during our stay. The sound proofing between rooms also was not sufficient. Normal conversation in the room next to ours could be heard on our side of the wall. The windows in our room were filthy and in need of either cleaning or replacement. The staff was very friendly and never failed to greet you.
Overall a great weekend! Room was very nice, very clean! Housekeeping does an excellent job! Breakfast was ok, set up should be revisited so the flow is better for the waffles and pancakes which take up cooking time. These two things caused a bit of a crowd unnecessary in the breakfast area. Location is great close to the highway and shopping close by. Front desk staff was very friendly and helpful when we asked for directions.
The hotel overall is very nice. My two complaints are they did not have a hot - hot tub. It was cold and even after complaining 3 times it was not corrected. Their Breakfast was cold and the food items dried out. This was the worst breakfast I ever had at any Best Western or hotel. Other than that the hotel is in a good location and is modern and in good condition.
We try to stay at Best Western on all of our trips. This one was to give us a rest before last stop. Most of it was up to snuff, but there were a couple of small problems. Room was clean, but lacked luggage bench. We had to call to get sound on TV to work (they came up and finally figured out problem). Continental breakfast was great as usual.
I stayed here in May 2016 with a group of other managers from my company who were in town to work the Senior PGA Championship. Overall, my stay was a pleasant one; my room was clean, the free internet was fast, the staff was helpful, and there were a number of restaurants within walking distance and a Walmart nearby as well. The only negative thing about my stay were some housekeeping issues we had with not getting our towels and washcloths replenished daily. We would place our used towels on the bathroom floor and when we returned to the hotel in the evening, they felt damp and and we could tell they rehung the ones we wanted replaced. This wouldn't be a huge deal except for the fact that I was sharing a room with a coworker and we had no way of knowing whose towel was whose after they were rehung. We went to the front desk for replacement towels and we were told the hotel was out of extra towels until the next day.
We stayed here for one of my daughter's softball tournaments. We really didn't want to stay in Benton Harbor, but the hotels where she was playing about 10 minutes away were either fully booked or had doubled their rates for the weekend. After reading the reviews, we thought this hotel sounded pretty good for the price. The hotel is older but has been updated, although the grounds could really use some TLC. Upon check-in, the front desk clerk was less than courteous and seemed like he wanted to be anywhere but there. He was very slow and uncommunicative and it took forever to check in and get our keys. We found our room, which was clean and had a refrigerator, microwave and wonderful pillows. However, the TV wouldn't work without an engineering degree and there wasn't a guide or instructions on how to use it. After struggling for about 10 minutes, we called our friend at the front desk who walked us through a ridiculous amount of steps to get the thing turned on and working, but you couldn't use the guide or it would mess everything up. The wi-fi worked very well the first night, but not in the morning. We also had problems with our key cards. The first night, they wouldn't open the outdoor entrance door closest to our room. The next morning, the quit opening anything. We were checking out, so it wasn't a big deal, but I don't get how they just stop working. The pool area was very nice and clean with an indoor/outdoor pool and large hot tub. The complimentary breakfast Sunday morning included fruit, cereal, assorted bagels, toast and pastries, biscuits and gravy, eggs sausage, hash browns, waffles and juice/coffee. Would we stay here again? Under the same circumstances, yes. As a destination, no.
Booked this place at the last minute for a weekend wedding in the area. I was not sure what to expect given the mixed reviews. Check in was a breeze front desk staff was efficient and we got onto or room quickly. Room was nice clean although had a strong odor of fabreeze. Pool area was nice and clean. Breakfast was what you would typically expect. Best this about the place is the staff we checked out early 5:30am. Staff went out of her way to provide us to go bags with breakfast treats. Overall a good experience
I stayed here on May 19th the room was nice, but the next day I got a big surprise. I had over 500.00 of unauthorized charges on my debit card. The only placed I used my card was at this hotel, when I was checking in I observed the guy behind the counter writing something down I'm sure it was the info from my card, be very careful if you stay here
For the price the accommodations & the amenities were very good. Very clean & the staff was very helpful. 24 hr. coffee & the continental breakfast was one of the largest selections I have ever seen. The work out equipment was outstanding. Overall I would give this stay a 4.5 rating, very pleased.
Recent renovations. Very nice. Indoor/outdoor pool which is a nice touch. Priced very reasonable. location just off of US 94 - downside for some people might be some highway noise, however it didn't bother me.. Restaurants are close-walking distance.
Nicely remodeled hotel, pool was out of commission, beds were great. Hair on floor of bathroom. Breakfast was the most disappointing. Nothing was stocked and the attendant was reluctant to restock anything and we arrive 40 minutes before it closed. We had to ask for everything and eggs and french toast were cold. No potatoes as signs indicated. The attendant appeared to not want to replenish because she would have to clean it up! Other staff very polite. Right next to Walmart , the area was a bit old and dirty like, but we did not feel uncomfortable nor unsafe. Sports group of small children were playing soccer in hall until 11 pm. Annoying.
Don't let the limited TripAdvisor reviews FOOL you like they fooled me. This is NOT a hotel to stay at. Tricks were turned by both the clientele and the managerial staff during our stay. For those uncertain about which review to believe, I can only suggest reading some of my other Trip Advisor reviews. After a long day of travel spanning over 1,000 miles of driving, we arrived at the Best Western-Benton Harbor/ St. Joseph very late in the evening. Upon arrival, we thought it odd how many cars were parked in the check-in lane (more on this later). Entering the hotel, we were greeted by a kindly night manager and an up-to-date lobby that featured decor far above the typical decor accompanying Best Western hotels. Unfortunately, the professional and caring nature of the night manager and the furniture in the lobby was the highlight of our stay. Check-in proved to be the first of many disasters. Although we made our reservation through an online booking company and produced our online confirmation, the hotel did not to have the reservation. A 20-minute wait in the check-in line while the night manager was on the phone with the booking company solved nothing. Apparently, based on the comments of the night manager and by other guests seeking to check in at the same time, the hotel has difficulty accessing reservations through online booking companies. Far worse than the 20-minute wait to learn that our reservation was not received by the hotel were some of the other "guests" trying to check into the hotel. To put things politely, and in quasi oblique terms, a segment of the clientele using this hotel pays in tightly folded cash bills, wears very skimpy outfits, and communicates with a male overlord before actually booking a room (more on this later). In light of this awkward, uncomfortable, and seemingly unsafe situation at the front desk, I considered finding another hotel. However, in light of the very late hour and in fear that I might be charged a cancellation fee by the online booking company if I didn't stay at the hotel, I opted to be patient. My patience, proved extremely detrimental. First, although we initially thought that we were fortunate to be assigned to a room in a corridor opposite of the corridor where the aforementioned other guests checking in, the corridor where our room was located reeked of marijuana. Second, while unloading our belongs from our car, a loud shouting match erupted in the parking lot between those individuals who we had seen physically paying for various rooms in the hotel and their male overlord. Such did not do wonders for either our sense of security in this establishment or our ability to sleep. The third detriment, however proved most disturbing, at least in principle. After a very uneasy night of one-eyed-open sleep, daylight and time to hit the road again arose. Come check-out, the day manager/manager of the hotel concluded that the night manager erred in deciding that the hotel would honor the online total price because the online price included an incorrect taxation rate and that we should have to pay more than the price quoted in the reservation and agreed to by the night manager. Needless to say, the verbal argument I observed between "employee" and "overlord employer" in the parking lot the night before was now to be rivaled by the argument I was having with the hotel manager at the front desk. In sum, in 15 years of travelling on a regular basis, I've never encountered such unprofessional and lackadaisical managerial staff, as epitomized by the baggy sweatshirt and casual jeans worn by the hotel manager. The attentiveness to cleanliness and detail by the maid staff was no better as (1) the carpet in our room was stained with a crusty white substance (ICK)' (2) the pull out sofa bed had no sheets, pillows, or blankets, and (3) the breakfast room floor was as sticky as a glue mouse trap. Finally, for anyone interested, the pool remains closed for maintenance (on the plus side it might actually be clean since it has not been used). Bottom line, other than the lobby and the kindly and caring night manager, there is nothing redeeming or reasonable about this hotel. If you want a nicer hotel, drive a little further to Michigan City, Kalamazoo, or Grand Rapids. If you are seeking an affordable budget hotel in this area, try one of the less expensive hotels next door as they really cannot be any worse. While I'm by no means an easy critique, I know the difference between a hotel with flaws and an establishment that is an utter disaster and I've never had a worse, or even remotely comparable, stay at a hotel.
Really enjoyed our stay. Staff & breakfast were wonderful. Location is very convenient and close to food. You can tell they put a lot of time into the property. Hotel is modern, unlike most Best Westerns.
Great staff! Excellent hotel surrounded by great places to shop, eat and close to freeways. The service was excellent and the fitness room was available. Because this hotel is new, the pool was not available. Overall a great place to stay.
Very nice and comfortable rooms. This location is new and I can see good changes in the hotel chain taking place. Staff is friendly. Breakfast was ok but like I said this is a new location and the staff said hot breakfast will be soon. Well worth the stay.
Due to lake effect snowstorm and the closing of I-94 my trip from Battle Creek to Benton Harbor took 4 1/2 hours. Too tired and anxious to continue my trip in the dark, I stopped in Benton Harbor to look for a place to stay. I almost stopped at a different hotel but slid past their entrance and pulled into the Best Western. It looked dark as if it wasn't open, one car parked under the overhang. Lights were on, so I went in. The hotel had just re-opened the day before so I was their second guest ever. Check in was bumpy as clerk had just started and was unfamiliar with procedures. This will get better with experience. My room was on the side of the hotel where the wind was coming from. Maybe this was why I couldn't seem to get the room warm enough. I had the thermostat set to 80 and I was still chilly. The entire hotel seemed chilly maybe because it was new? it was windy? not enough warm bodies inside? Breakfast was a little sparse, only cold items available - pastries, cereal, fruit. Again probably because of the newness of the facility. Great coffee machine available 24/7!! Pool was unavailable yet I probably wouldn't have used it as it is right off the lobby with big windows looking into the pool area.
I stayed here several times in the past. It was clean but, needed updating. The pool is located right next to lobby and every person that walks into the lobby can see the bathers. Drove past today to find this hotel is now closed. Under new ownership and being remodeled.
This hotel needs a full makeover. The staff made a big deal on check in about upgrading my king room to one with a "hot tub". I was surprised to open my room door to find a big bathtub in the room next to my bed. Unfortunately the outdoor pool and a social function were both going on directly outside my window. This hotel is not very private. The breakfast was acceptable but not great. The door cards repeatedly quit working requiring me to go back to the front desk for replacements. The staff was nice and helpful. I will not stay here again.
After my critical comments in August I had a letter from the manager of the hotel apologizing, so on my last trip to Benton Harbor in December I gave it another try. Well, nothing has changed about the rooms. The only positive about this hotel is their staff, all very friendly. That's it.
The hotel stated that it was close to St. Joes . It was more like 10-15 minutes away which isn't bad but was not what they advertised. The hotel and room smelled like stale smoke. The indoor/outdoor pool was nice . Will go back to the Holiday Inn next year.
Over the years I have stayed several times at this Hotel, unfortunately, nothing has changed to the better. Certainly not the standard of other Courtyard Hotels I know. Last time I stayed in early July I had a room with filcy curtains, partly dirty room and chipped bath tub. And at that price you definitely find better rooms in Benton Harbor. This hotel is making it difficult to stay just because of the Awards Program.
