The Best Western Royal Hotel is the perfect choice for a place to stay near St. Helier. One of the principal hotels in the capital and centrally located on a large site, this fine hotel in Jersey gives you the chance to sample the island’s finest hospitality as well as its many attractions. The hotel is within a five to 10 minute walk of the central shopping area, and less than a mile away from the beach and harbor, so you'll be perfectly placed to get out and about without having to venture too far. The Jersey hotel itself is a characterful property that has been trading as a hotel since 1849. Our comfortable lounge bar is well worth a visit. Whether you want to relax over a cappuccino with colleagues or meet your friends over a beer, we'll serve you with an AA Rosette-winning smile in this welcoming hotel near St. Helier. A great place to stay while you're out of office, the Best Western Royal Hotel has everything the discerning business traveler might need, including one of the largest conference venues in Jersey. The island is a fantastic destination for families too, with excellent, immaculate beaches within a 10-20-minute drive and attractions that are just as easy to reach. But be warned - they're hard to leave too. If you're a surfer, the Atlantic waves at St. Ouen’s Beach are not to be missed, while walks along the cliffs to unspoiled bays and fishing in St. Aubin’s Bay offer a more laid-back way to enjoy the coast.

"Hot, Hot, Hot!!"

12/07/2018

Back from a 10 night stay at the Royal Hotel. Location is about 10 mins walk from the main shopping area and 15 mins walk from the Bus Station. Breakfast and the meals in Bar 27 were very good (we didn't have an evening meal in the restaraunt). All of the staff were very friendly and efficient. We used the laundry service halfway through our stay which was excellent (garments returned the same day). We also used the pool facilities at the Royal's sister hotel located 5 mins walk away which were very clean and quiet. The only minor downside was that due to the hot weather the room tended to be like a sauna for much of the day (we were on the top floor at the front of the hotel). We therefore had to leave the windows open and use a fan however the road outside is very noisy so we then had to use earplugs in order to get some sleep. I totally understand that fitting air-conditioning is not an option due to the age of the building but I was surprised that the room did not have a fridge in order to keep drinks cold. Would we go back? Definitely, but next time we would request a room at the rear of the hotel which would hopefully be quieter.

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your kind review. We are delighted that you found our hotel services to be good and that you enjoyed the pool at the Monterey nearby. Jersey has enjoyed an exceptional spell of weather in recent weeks. Few hotels in Jersey have air conditioning. With the sea so close on a small island the air normally cools substantially at night as a natural feature of Jersey. It is wonderful that you would definitely return. You would be most welcome.

back again after a 2 year break. Breakfast was good plenty of choice. We had picked a Balcony room with nice furniture but the balcony could do with lick of paint. Small problem the generator was with hearing distance from our room, it was noisy but switched off around 10.30. You have to walk along corridors, and on one occasion I missed the uplifted step of which there are many, and fell forwards stunning me and ending up with a damaged rib which I was in agony for a few days, still sore as yet,Check in staff were friendly Dining room staff of which I must mention Stanley was excellent full of information as to what was available. We had an early evening meal in the bar on one occasion, it was nice although too big a serving. We stayed 3 nights the only minus is it is a bit far from town centre.

"Cracking Sunday Roast "

27/06/2018

No need to book, just walked on in and sat at a table. Two roast dinners for under twenty quid! Plenty of meat, Yorkshire puds, plenty of veg in side dishes to split between the two of us. Only one choice of meat on offer every week, but when the lamb was as good as that it really didn't matter. Great budget meal. Thanks.

"First stay in Jersey, and a great hotel to stay at"

Older couple staying B7B for 10 days, but using Seasons Restaurant or having a Barmeal on 7 of those days. Very helpful staff and comfortable room. I note other comments on noise, and i was not aware just how busy the crossroads was, on which the Hotel sist. Nothing they can do about that, but I would choose a room at the rear next time. Chef was accommodating with a gluten free diet but we did dine out on 3 occasions, not so much for a change but because the meals I would have liked that particular evening could clearly not be made gf. Breakfast were very good, really good choice and gf cereal.

"Grand time at the royal"

17/06/2018

The staff were lovely. Four poster room was well equipped with tea coffee and biscuits. Snacks to buy nice touch. Robes and slippers complementary. The breakfast was excellent plenty to choose from and a beautiful varied fruit salad. Always my favourite. We ate Sunday lunch in the pub that was £10 lovely but not large if you like a big portion. (It was fine for us).

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your kind comments, It is wonderful that you feel that you enjoyed a 'Grand time at the Royal.' Robes and slippers are indeed standard items in all of our Suites, Balcony Patio and Executive categories of bedrooms. We are delighted that you enjoyed our catering. Thank you again for your kind feedback.

First time at this hotel, close to shops and restaurants in st Helier. checked in however there was a room misunderstanding. This was rectified immediately and we were extremely happy with this. Good size and standard rooms, clean and comfortable. would like to thank Zofia for her pre arrival advice and Ashley for her help throughout the weekend. Will definitely return.

Stay at this hotel 7 nights everything was excellent. Good and helpful staff. Was in room 318 if you have kids with you get this room good space. Breakfast plenty and cooked to perfection. The bar and food is nice they do a 3iteam platers for £12 well worth the money I had it for 3 night. The restaurant nice well presented food. If you like you could eat something different every night. It's money we'll spent. Will be going back

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review

06/06/2018

Good value Best Western Hotel with helpful and efficient staff. Excellent breakfasts. Rooms at the front of the hotel are quite noisy because of the busy road. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the main shopping centre and about 20 minutes from the sea front.

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your report that we are good value. We are located only five minutes walk from the main high street shopping areas and even closer by to the Millennium Town Park. We are a town centre traditional hotel and enjoy a large site with good public area for guest enjoyment. Thank you once again.

Huge variety of rooms within the maze that is this hotel. Excellent location. Wonderful staff. I didn't like the room that was booked for me on my behalf, so I asked if there were any upgrades, not one that day, but was able to get upgraded the next day, very helpful they were. No fridge, no air con but the table top fan was perfectly okay for me. Good breakfast, lovely bar and really good food at the lounge bar. It's not your top notch, but it is extremely comfortable, great staff, central to shopping (tour buses will pick you up from here) ...no negativity here x

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your kind comments. These are appreciated. We were established as a town centre hotel in the 1840's and occupy a large site with good public areas and all day freshly prepared catering. Our large terrace areas are unusual for a town centre hotel and we are very close to the town's beautiful central public park, the Millennium Town Park. We have a range of bedrooms and upgrade bedroom options. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. Our team of staff are particularly pleased with your kind and considered comments. Thank you.

27/05/2018

Wonderful hotel. Very professional service. Comfortable rooms with usual tea/coffee facilities. Our room also had a fridge! Nice hot shower. We booked half board and the breakfast selection was excellent. If you go away hungry it's your own fault! Evening meal was excellent, a bit upmarket to what we are used too but it was very good. The service in the restaurant was very professional, Maria & Stanley were our main servers and they were lovely & friendly. We relaxed in the bar after our evening meal and again a nice atmosphere, but we did notice that prices varied although we all had the same drink every round....if you got served by the same person each time it remained the same lol! The hotel is situated well with 2 routes, 1st route, turn left out of hotel, walk straight down and it takes you to the shopping area of St Helier, 2nd route, turn right out of hotel, turn left into Victoria Street, turn left at bottom of Victoria Street onto Val Plaisant/NewStreet, continue down and it takes you to Liberty Wharf/Liberation Square, about 15 minutes walk either way. I would definitely recommend this hotel, we had a wonderful stay, thankyou.

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review

really good breakfasts enough to keep you going till evening meal, Bar food excellent and bar staff very helpful especial Edward. Staff througout hotel very good. Rooms very spacious as was the bathroom. TV could be bigger and beds were comfortable. One problem too many stairs every were, not suitable if you have mobility problems.

"Nice room, but too warm"

21/05/2018

Nice hotel. Good room but it was too warm with no air con. There was a fan and that would have been ok if I could have kept window open but was on the front of the hotel next to noisy road. Other than that good place to stay.

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you found us to be a nice hotel and a good place to stay. Our central heating system was operating at the time of your stay creating additional heat within the building and this is now switched off as we head into summer. Thank you once again for you comments.

21/05/2018

A few minutes walk from the centre, this hotel is a warren of rooms, corridors and stairs. Room 136 had a double and a single, a large bathroom. And was clean with a comfy bed. Good enough for a business visit.

Thank you for your custom. We were established as an hotel in the 1840's and are indeed a traditional hotel. Thank you for your comments.

"Great Hotel, Great Breakfast, Lovely Staff"

19/05/2018

This is a lovely hotel in a great location - only 10 minutes walk from town centre and marina. Meals in the bar were excellent as were the buffet breakfasts. We had a suite, which was very spacious and had comfortable beds and sofa and a very large bathroom. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Only reason for 4 stars not 5 was the maze of stairs to get to our room at the back of the hotel, which was really tricky with a baby & pushchair. (Porter did take our bags down on check out day though)

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your kind comments. These are appreciated. Our suites are accessible also across our large outside terrace area and many client take this route for ease of access. Thank you for your custom and for reporting us to be a great hotel with a great breakfast and lovely staff.

"Business trip, great hotel in St Helier"

18/05/2018

Stayed for 4 nights, great location, clean and tidy hotel, reasonable price for booking last minute. Breakfast had a good spread. Room was clean and tidy, however not enough plug sockets by the bedside. Bed was comfortable and bathroom was of a good size. Hotel has a small car park, which was handy as I drove over from mainland UK. I ate in the bar on one of the evenings; it was a good meal with quick and friendly service. Would recommend.

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your valued feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed our location and facilities and hope to welcome you back sometime soon. Your custom is appreciated.

Stayed for 3 nights, great location, clean and smart hotel, good price would definitely recommend. Great for being central no spa facilities though do have at their sister hotel. Good breakfast nice dining area. Good hotel bar and restaurant that looked popular with passing trade also. Has a car par k which was really handy and a nice play park only 5 mins down the road. Really happy with my stay.

Hotel rooms are quite dated but only to be expected. Not a modern Hotel. Rooms were of reasonable size clean and comfortable. The downstairs lounge areas and restaurant were plush and excellent. I cannot fault the Staff. Absolutely the Best. Nothing was too much trouble. They made us all feel very welcome and delivered a personal service. The Restaurant was absolutely Excellent. All meals were of high standard, enjoyable and a good selection on the menu. The Bar was nice and comfortable. Sunday Lunch was perfect and very reasonably priced. Staff went out of their way to help and seat all together including our disabled member who required a wheelchair which we hired and stored in the Hotel. The Hotel is just a short walk from town center. If you have a problem with health while away we found Reid's Pharmacy nearby was very helpful. There are interesting clean and respectable Antique and Charity shops close by. As a musician I was pleased to visit a music memorabilia shop with good quality used guitars and vinyl for sale just a short walk from Hotel. In town the Market is worth a visit and I purchased old postcards from John Cooper Antiques there. Our Thanks to all the Royal Hotel Staff for making our visit so enjoyable. We did visit the Sister Hotel to use their pool facilities. Very enjoyable although on one occasion it was full of teenagers playing ball. Needless to say we declined to join them. Wish I was young.

"Excellent Experience "

30/04/2018

We have just had the most amazing weeks stay at the Royal Hotel in St Helier Jersey. The Hotel was very clean and very comfortable with a super conservatory for relaxation as well as a ‘sun trap' sun bathing area. However, what makes the Hotel stand out is the amazing friendly, helpful staff who went out of their way to give you personal service and the most amazing food! It is undoubtedly the place we will return to next time we head back to Jersey. Thanks to ALL of the staff for a holiday to remember xx

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you very much for your kind comments. Our team at the hotel are delighted that you enjoyed your stay. Our kitchen team retained our AA Rosette again this year - now held for over a decade. Your comments are both valued and appreciated.

"Weekend break"

5
30/04/2018

We just needed a few days break and had always wanted to go to jersey. This hotel is 5 minutes from the harbour. The room was spacious and as for the breakfast it kept us going all day . We had a meal in the bar which was very tasty. The staff was very helpful and friendly and couldn't seem to do enough for you. It would be ideal to do a trip round the island leaflets in the hotel and very cheap also this way you can decide what place you would like to get the bus to revisit ,it's £2 one way and most buses come every 15 minutes. You must also visit the war tunnels very moving and also take the war bus which gives you a running commentary about what went on it's £6 return and you can pick up the bus from liberation square at the harbour 10 minutes from the hotel. The airport is close by so you could even get a bus to take you there very cheap. It's cheaper to book your hotel room direct with best western.

"Surprisingly very good"

Thought it was just a standard 3 star in jersey. Boy was I wrong! Fabulous staff. Room we had overlooked the roof terrace and door to access it. Sat outside sipping on drinks. Bed was comfy. Room was really clean and tidy and bathroom with shampoo and conditioner (nice touch as some places do not have conditioner). Breakfast was plentiful and tons of choice. Lovely fresh fruit. All in all great hotel. It is a bit of a walk to town but not a biggie for us. Yes not all the i's were dotted or the T's crossed but who cares your on holiday. For the price book book book ??

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your kind comments. We are an AA Silver Award three Star Hotel and are the only hotel in Jersey to hold this prized accolade. Thank you once again.

29/04/2018

Booked the Royal as we were staying in St Helier for my wife's birthday and we weren't disappointed. From start to finish Mariusz and his team gave an amazing personal feel to our stay. Champagne and birthday card for my wife upon entering our room was a lovely touch and left her grinning from ear to ear. Our room (131) had a lovely four poster bed and access out onto the terrace was a nice touch. The room was decorated well and the bathroom was lovely and clean with a good shower. Breakfast was fabulous with plenty on offer to please everyone. A stay here is definitely recommended and we'll deffo book again when we return to Jersey.

"What a gem"

14/04/2018

The hotel is not to far from the centre of town we were made to feel very welcome the moment we set foot inside the hotel it was very clean and every single member of staff was always helpful and polite it seemed to us both that all staff took great pride in their work and appearance which is a credit to them all. the food in seasons restaurant was amazing. On my partners birthday we found on returning to our room a bottle of prosecco in a ice bucket what a lovely touch and much appreciated. We will be returning next year we would highly recommend anyone to go to this wonderful place

"Excellent Staff"

28/03/2018

Excellent Bar Staff, While staying at the Best Western Royal Hotel I went to its adjoining bar and restraunt. Although busy there was only one staff member working on the bar as well as clearing and serving tables with food. Despite the work load for one person Elena still served customers quickly and with the upmost quality of customer service, care and consideration. I was very impressed with the quality of customer service to all customers and it was a pleasure to see someone who took a great sense of pride in her work and had such high standards when doing so. Would defiantly recommend dining there when staying at the hotel.

Nothing was too much trouble and the staff went out of their way to make sure that we had a truly special evening. Food and service were excellent. The staff were so attentive and made us feel relaxed. The rooms were lovely and breakfast first class.

"Good value for single rooms"

4
23/03/2018

Helpful friendly staff created a good impression. Breakfast was excellent with everything freshly cooked except buffet one morning. Front desk attentive with newspapers as ordered, early call on time and billing accurate. Very professional. Bar warm and inviting with good selection of beers and bar food good value. Didn't use main restaurant. Single room top floor small but adequate. Clean and fresh -Shower pressure poor because 3rd floor I suppose. Suited for a short off season visit to do a little walking and single rooms available. Short 10mins to bus station. Would return

"Very small rooms but not bad place"

19/03/2018

I stayed here for one night room was tiny and a rather strange shape. Tv also very small probably down to the layout. Heated well room was warm and hit water was available. Not bad place not great either but did the job.

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay. Thank you. The Royal was established as an hotel in the town centre of St. Helier in the 1840's and larger bedrooms may easily be requested if this is a concern. We do have some single bedrooms also at the Royal. We are not a modern standardised building but rather a building with a long depth of history which often draws repeat stays and your comments are valued. We would be pleased to warmly welcome you back to the Royal should you return to Jersey at some future point.

05/03/2018

Stayed at this lovely hotel over half term to celebrate a birthday, we had 2 rooms, one a family room with 3 beds and a cot and loads of room! Couldn't fault the stay, food in the hotel was delicious! Would 100% recommend eating at the bar one night we ended up eating here every night of our stay!! Breakfast was a nice selection, rooms clean and comfortable and all staff very lovely! Even provided a cot for us! You can use the pool at their sister hotel 5 minutes down the road MUST TRY THE STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
So wonderful that you enjoyed your stay at our long established Royal. We are very central in the town of St. Helier, a short distance from the high street and the new Millennium Town Park. The Best Western Royal has a Silver Award from the AA within its three Star grading and this is unique in the Island. Our restaurant has held its AA Rosette for its catering for a decade and we are so pleased that you enjoyed these standards too. Our sister Monterey Hotel's indoor pool is five minutes on foot and use of its facilities are free of charge to Royal guests.

"GREAT HOTEL"

25/02/2018

Stayed here recently quite central for bus terminal and shops and eateries has a bar / restaurant attached quite reasonable price the only negative is quite noisy at the front of the hotel from traffic.

"Comfortable, quaint and central St Helier"

5
07/02/2018

This hotel is nicely situated, so long as you don't want to be close to the sea. It's old, so there are stairs and winding corridors, but that adds to its charm. Our room was at the back, so nice and quiet. Huge bathroom, by hotel standards. Helpful staff, nice breakfasts, and parking available. Excellent really. I'd not look for anywhere else myself, if returning. WiFi worked well too.

"Just the job "

My wife and I stayed in this hotel for the Christmas break, the food was excellent, the staff friendly and efficient. Our double room on the first floor was spacious, clean and well equipped, extra tea, coffee and milk were readily available from the front desk. The room had direct access to the roof terrace. All in all a lovely break and we would definitely return again.

"New Years break"

4
06/01/2018

We arrived in Jersey on New Years Eve,we took the bus to St Helier and walked to the hotel. It took about 20 minutes. Luckily our room was ready at 11am which really was a bonus for us after a very early flight. We were on the 2nd floor, our room was quite small however had all the amenities you could want. The bathroom was large in comparison with a bath! Breakfast was standard Best Western which is always good, the staff really friendly. Check out is 11am again the reception staff smiling and happy. We had a really pleasant stay.

"A pleasant Festive stay."

06/01/2018

I stayed at this hotel over Christmas. The food quality and the friendly service was like one would expect in a 4 star hotel or higher, with a very comprehensive choice of courses for dinner. The Christmas lunch was very good also. For those who like yogurt, they served the best in my opinion, thick and creamy. It would have been nice also if they provided full cream Jersey milk for cereals, as this product is not easily available back home on the mainland. The room provided was quiet and I was able to get a good nights sleep. It was nice not to have to walk far to reach the town centre, which has an impressive range of shops, restaurants and cafe's.

"Lovely hotel for our Xmas break "

5
28/12/2017

Just returned from nearly five days here over xmas and would certainly return again . Well decorated and clean , staff were always polite and couldn't do enough to help . We were in room 142 which was a little of a hike through winding corridors , think this might have been two places made into one over the yrs going by the narrow doorways on some of the rooms but couldn't fault the rooms at all ,excellent size and lovely big bathrooms with a bath . Our only downside with the room was it was at the back and did get a little noisy now and then from the cleaning firm opposite but we really didn't notice it that much. Food was always served in the main room and was of an excellent quality with a very good menu and quick service after you ordered . Breakfast was a buffet with a large selection and only downside was the cooked food could have been a bit warmer but was still edible ,plenty of continental selection as well . We met a man when we came in who was on his own and we decided to ask him if he would like to sit with us for Xmas lunch and the restaurant manager arranged to make up a table for three no problem and I think that made our holiday as we got on like a house on fire for the last couple of days and will stay in touch . Just want to say thanks for jersey plants direct for putting this deal on the back of their plant catalogue as it was an excuse to go to a lovely hotel on a lovely island for Xmas and certainly got a better deal than the table of twenty I think who payed twice what we paid !. Hotel could be a little hard to find for some as it's a little way from the front but ideally positioned for the longest shopping st I have ever seen and there are some lovely statues and delightful old architecture to see around st Helier . Would recommend this hotel .

We stayed here for 3 nights and have to say the staff are very friendly and helpful. The room was lovely and comfortable. We stayed half board and the food is of a high standard. I would recommend this hotel

I have been recently to Jersey on a short weekend break and couldn't be happier with the choice of hotel I made. Upon my arrival I was greeted by lovely, smiling, well mannered Zofia at the reception desk and checked- in without delay. My room, even though single, had a large, incredibly comfortable bed, was equipped-with great choice of teas&coffees by local merchandise and those resourced ethically with Fair Trade. Fluffy towels and nice smelling of coconut toiletries in basic but spotless clean bathroom. After a great night sleep I had been served a fit for a king breakfast. It was delicious, great choice of cold meats and other continental as well as hearty, cooked food. Promptly served coffee and perfectly toasted bread. I loved the fact Jersey butter was served with my toast as it's important for me to eat locally resourced food. I recommend Best Western Royal to anyone who is after a great town location, spotless clean rooms and professional friendly staff. As a single lady traveling on my own I can highly recommend the hotel as I felt safe, welcomed and well looked after. Thank you Royal!

I took my family to Jersey to show them where I grew up. We chose the Royal Best Western as it seemed of reasonable quality and fairly central. We were not disappointed. The hotel is very clean, very organised and with excellent staff. The breakfast choice is large wonderful and will set you up for the day. The evening meals in the bar are also good value in cosy surroundings. The hotel is graded 3* but of 4* quality but be aware some of the bedrooms are found up and down a few stairs and therefore may not suit infirmed customers. A great hotel that we would love to stay at any time.

food was without doubt of excellent quality and huge proportions - nice public bar - staff were very friendly - hotel very clean - ran out of words to recommend this place- 5 minutes walk to city cenre.

Your comment that we are the best hotel is very much appreciated by our established team at the Royal. Thank you. We are a Silver Award AA three star hotel with an AA Rosette and great public areas. The Royal has a great depth of history having been established in the 1840's in central St. Helier, Jersey's capital. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back to our traditional town centre hotel sometime soon. Thank you once again.

Second time in three months we have stayed at the Royal, this time for the air show. A really nice clean hotel with character, perfect staff and good food. A nice stroll down into St Helier and the bus station every day to visit any part of Jersey. Looking forward to booking for next year.

This was our third 4-day break at the Royal and we were pleased to note that the deficiencies last year have been corrected. The hotel has an advantage in being close to the town centre but also having a small free car park that is really only suitable for small cars. Finding the hotel from the airport would be a challenge, but since everyone has a smartphone or iPad, driving there was straightforward. The hotel is relatively old but very tastefully brought up to date. Finding our room involved wandering down a labyrinthine maze of passageways, ramps and steps which was quaint in a way. Our room was clean, spacious and tastefully decorated with a large ensuite bathroom, see photo. As before the breakfasts were superb with them being a buffet with fresh porridge and fish available on request. However, coffee is still being served in teapots! Perhaps the best aspect of the Hotel was the staff. All, without exception were polite, helpful and attentive and they all did a good job. So to sum up, a conveniently located hotel, close to the town centre that is clean, provides good food and has attentive staff deserves 5* Thank you - recommended.

"failed to deliver a good nights sleep this time"

The room and bathroom was a good size and comfortable. The room had a TV and tea/coffee as well as WIFI. So far so good, but there is presently roadworks outside (nothing the hotel can do about) BUT the windows may as well not exist, I woke and went to close them and they were already closed!. So prepare to have an early call for breakfast, which is quite nice of course. Good selection of hot and cold food. The bar is a decent place to chill and is just like a separate pub lounge.

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
We must report that as an hotel, we were unaware of the full nature of the concentrated temporary roadworks outside of your bedroom window, works which we understand were necessary and wholly unrelated to the hotel. You are correct that there was nothing we could have done about these roadworks themselves. We apologise for any inconvenience and hope this matter which was beyond our control will not deter any return visit you may make to the hotel. Thank you for your kind comments that you liked our hotel bar being like a separate pub lounge. This is what we are seeking to achieve with this facility which has been in operation in this manner for many years. We are also pleased that you enjoyed your breakfasts. Your valued feedback and custom are both appreciated.

"Varying Standards"

11/10/2017

Good location for town centre. The reception staff was exceptional and any request made was met with extreme politeness and nothing was too much trouble. Some of the other areas were disappointing and not to such a standard. Breakfast was of a very disappointing standard. The bacon never appeared to be freshly cooked during the whole time of our visit, it was tough, inedible and was lying in a bed of fat on the servery. Although breakfast was taken at various times this problem never changed Although toast was served on normal bread when this was requested to make a sandwich the answer was this was not available. The only bread offered at self service was pre-cut bagette bread. The standard of food served in the lounge bar was excellent and the portions were large.. Unfortunately the lounge bar was treated by the locals as a public bar and one evening a gentleman dressed in orange road workers overalls covered in pieces of tar was seated at the bar. The language used by some of these people was ripe! It would seem that there was no control on the standard of dress or individuals in this area. Having stayed in numerous Best Western hotels this hotel had the most varying standards encountered so far.

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your valued feedback which is helpful to maintain high standards. In respect of breakfasts, we work hard on our breakfast arrangements and will discuss the matters you raise for the benefit of future guests. Some items are freshly prepared from the kitchen but others are available from the buffet. Bread would have been easily available for a sandwich and we are at a loss to understand why this was not offered and apologise if this was a communication issue on our part at the time. Our bar is very popular as other reviews on this useful forum will attest. Your feedback has been useful in that in recent weeks some replacement guarding at the front of the hotel has obscured a sign by the entrance which clearly notes 'No soiled working clothes'. This sign has been re-positioned in a much more prominent place by the bar entrance-way and our management will continue to monitor matters to ensure that behaviour is kept appropriate within the bar in all respects in keeping with expected hotel standards. Thank you once again for your valued feedback.

The no. 15 bus from the Airport dropped us in the centre of St Helier and it was a 10/15 minute walk to the Hotel . On arrival we were warmly greeted by Laurence. We decided to upgrade to an Executive room for a larger room and king sized bed. Laurence was very kind and we were allocated a room which overlooked the front , although it was a little noisy at times the space and comfort of the room made up for it. Breakfast was very good for choice and quality, plates warm and the staff were attentive and friendly. Alternatives, such as, porridge, kippers, haddock were freshly made on request. The restaurant and bar were welcoming and again provided excellent meals and environment. We found the hotel to be very clean and pleasantly decorated throughout. Some rooms have been upgraded and some could be quite a walk from reception. We were celebrating our 44th wedding anniversary and were very pleased to find a lovely gift from the hotel! We would highly recommend the Best Western Royal Hotel.

Stayed here for 4 nights at the end of June. Hotel is in a good location, 15 mins walk to the centre. Room was adequate for our stay, quite small, but was just a base for us. Breakfast was good, staff helpful. We ate in the bar area one night, food was good. Drinks in the bar were good. Overall a nice hotel, and would stay here again.

We are pleased that you enjoyed our town centre location, right by the Millennium Town Park, and that you would choose to stay with us again. We hold an AA Rosette for our catering standards at the hotel and have done so for the past decade. Thank you for your custom and feedback.

Enjoyed our stay here, 20 minutes walk to main street in St Helier and bus station from where we took trips to the many attractions the island has to offer. The food in the main restaurant was exceptional and also the bar food was extremely good as well. All of the staff were very pleasant and very helpful. Altogether a very nice hotel and we had a lovely holiday.

"Great location but a little dated"

02/10/2017

We stayed for a weekend, the hotel looks like it has been refurbished in some areas but in others it looks very tired and dated. The reception area is cleaned and looks like it was refurbished a couple of years ago, whilst the bar and restaurant could do with a complete makeover, they both look dated and near to end of life. Our bedroom was on the 3rd floor and looked like it was refurbished very recently and to a good standard. In summary friendly staff, good location and some refurbishment, as for value for money it's not over priced but you could get more for your money.

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. We are pleased that you like our location and our friendly team of staff. We are a traditional listed building in the town centre and do indeed refurbish different areas of the hotel each year and have done so on a continuous basis over many years. Thank you for your feedback and custom. It is appreciated.

I went to Jersey and stayed in St Helier I booked the Royal hotel as it was close to where I was going to visit the Mansell collection The hotel is only a 10 minute walk from the bus station which I used to get from the airport at £2 was great value and just outside the airport too! The hotel is a beautiful place and all the he staff are very friendly and helpful It is a bit of a maze to find your room but once I did I wasn't disappointed a well appointed room very clean and tidy the bathroom was fantastic with bath with shower and everything you could want The bar is a really nice place with fantastic staff that are very attentive without being intrusive always remembering what I drank with a friendly greeting They also do food which is fantastic everything I had was delicious and good portions too The main restaurant is very nice with good food although I did prefer the menu in the bar but it suited my taste better! The breakfast was buffet style again the serving staff were great and there was a wide range of food for any taste even an off menu option which I didn't try as the choice was great for me. All in all I would highly recommend the Royal and if or even when I go back to Jersey I will stay there again

Whilst being well aware of the awards this Hotel has received, after staying for four nights I am left wondering how did they receive such accolades? No, could not fault the cleanliness throughout the hotel, but noted housekeeping starts at 7am, which proved awkward several mornings in spite of displaying "Do not Disturb" notice. The bed had springs poking through the mattress in several places and the bed linen itself was of the cheapest variety available. Outside noise was intrusive as the hotels is just single glaze. On the first morning for Breakfast (starts 7.30) the number of staff and presentation met the standards of a 3 star hotel, the "Manager" was in the dining area and I noted his nervous disposition, yes a VIP was taking Breakfast and it was a case of the full set piece for their benefit, thus tea came in a tea pot, the tables had been correctly laid and I witnessed whilst selecting cook items a staff member probing the hot food with a temperature probe. Roll forward 24 hours, fewer staff, tea poured from a large teapot, not externally insulated, except for a serviette, the tea being poured train service style to save both time and money and the washing of teapots, plus reducing the number of staff required, a second cup was not forthcoming easily, reheated toast was served to us on two mornings. whilst the quality of the hot food on offer showed a marked down turn in both quality and taste. Cuisine of Jersey it definitely was not, yes ,milk and butter was sourced in Jersey, the rest of it clearly came from a large catering company in Ashford, Kent. The evening food in the restaurant was either being overcooked or had been allowed to stand under the heat lamps far too long, thus making some items very tough. The bar was a pleasant area and the prices were very reasonable, the room rates even leaving aside Jerseys 5% sales tax and remember no VAT in the Channel Islands were excessive for the service and the sleep quality provided, I think it reasonable to expect staff to speak French and English given the large numbers of French visitors to Jersey, clearly this is not the case and created service problems. Overall this Hotel was found to be seriously wanting in many areas of its operation, ruling out any further stay in the future.

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to learn that you found fault with your stay and felt you could only mark us as being average. We are a listed building and accept that this style will not be to all tastes. However, as such, we occupy a large site and many guests find this a positive factor with their stay. It is pleasing that you found us to be a clean hotel. Thank you. Our linen in provided by the Islands' leading laundry and is from a stock of linen utilised in common with many of the Islands top hotels. We use Mattison sprung beds and these are regularly reviewed. Any accolades have been awarded after independent inspection. Product quality is consistent at breakfast and we have no record of any VIP in-house guest during your stay. Larger teapots at breakfast are only used for top-up to cups in appropriate circumstances. Our staff are proud to have achieved a Gold level Investor in People award and this does help achieve consistency of product and service. Thank you for your valued custom.

"The Royal Hotel - great location"

25/09/2017

Our stay here was ok - both my son's room and mine faced the main road and traffic noise was a problem at night (and my son's headboard shook each time anyone walked past his door!) but overall it was ok. Only dined in the restaurant for breakfast which served a good variety of foods, so no issues there. Reception staff were friendly enough. Pricy but maybe paying for location which was a 10 minute walk to the town centre and sea?

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback and custom. We are a town hotel, established in the 1840's, well located for the centre of St. Helier and the main shopping areas and close to the new Millennium Town Park. Our reception team are always happy to look to move guests within the hotel if noise from the street is felt to be an issue. Quieter bedrooms may be easily requested at time of booking. Your positive comments on our breakfast arrangements are appreciated. Thank you for choosing to stay at the Royal.

"our second visit"

21/09/2017

\\this was our second visit to the Royal and it was just as good as the first. We had a room with a terrace which was great(pity the weather wasn't better). The room was a good size, lovely and clean and comfy. The staff were pleasant, happy and helpful and you couldn't fault them. We ate several times in the bar and the food is really good with generous helpings. The hotel is in a great location for the town centre, beach and seafront, bars restaurants and the bus station. I think though that the hotel is getting to the point of requiring some up dating and the rooms are so very hot and have no air conditioning and are too warm to get a good nights sleep. I would stay here again as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for staying with us once again at our traditional Best Western Royal Hotel. Your custom is valued and appreciated. We refurbish a good number of bedrooms each year and have done so over many years as our hotel was established many years ago. Our hotel has central heating and this has been switched on for the autumn. This may be regulated within guest bedrooms. We are delighted that you would re-visit. You would be most welcome at the Royal.

"Can't Fault this hotel"

20/09/2017

We have stayed here now four times over the years and the service and facilities are always spot on. We stayed here with friends on 14 - 17 September and had rooms 219 & 129. Both rooms had balconies and were very spacious, clean and perfect for use. We had come here this time to celebrate our 27th Wedding Anniversary and the Management and staff at the hotel very kindly left a bottle of fizz on ice with two glasses in our room with a card attached. It was very much appreciated and made our stay even more special. Breakfast is a buffet affair and is excellent. There is something for everyone and you will not go hungry. Evening meals here in the hotel restaurant, looked absolutely amazing from what we saw. We unfortunately had booked on a B&B basis only, and after trying to book in for a meal we found it was fully booked that particular night. Hence we decided to eat in the hotel bar/restaurant for one night and then ate out in town which is only a 10 minute walk away on the other nights. If you are driving as we were, the car park is through a tight front entrance and into a secure car park within the hotel grounds. Parking is limited and very confined and is on a first come first served basis. If you cannot get in the car park you will have to try and find parking in one of the side streets. Be aware that you drive in through one roller shutter door off the main road and exit through another at the other side of the hotel onto an adjacent street. We saw one poor person try and go back out the same way he had come in and this is very awkward and dangerous. We had one night when some people returning to the hotel at 4am made a terrible noise, singing and being incredibly loud and inconsiderate to other guests. This was by no means the hotel's fault at all so we never mentioned it in the morning. At breakfast however many of the guests commented on the ruckus. Having said that we loved our stay and would come back here in a heartbeat as the hotel, staff and service are impeccable. Thank you.

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your wonderful review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your Wedding Anniversary break at the Royal. Our team are delighted with your comments. We are a town centre hotel and as such fewer guests use cars but in case of overflow parking being needed, our sister Monterey Hotel is also able to provide parking space and is situated on the same road only five minutes distance on foot. We are so pleased that you would return in a heartbeat and you would of course be most welcome at the Royal.

18/09/2017

We stayed at the Royal for 3 nights to be in Jersey for the Air Display. First time in this hotel and were delighted. All the staff were friendly, knowledgeable, courteous, attentive .... you get the gist? The room (218) was excellent; spotless, with iron and ironing board, hair dryer, tea coffee etc. No problem with road noise. The breakfasts were excellent too, plenty of choice (the smoked haddock was superb!). The coffee was really good, I don't drink much caffeine but I did at breakfast ...! We ate in the restaurant every evening (weather not so good for going out!) and we were delighted with the choice, the quality, the ambiance and the superb staff. One tiny point .. to get to room 218 we either had stairs to climb or, as recommended, we took the lift to the 3rd floor, short walk along a couple of corridors then descended a small flight of stairs to our room. That small flight of stairs was very steep and the tread very narrow and a couple of steps at slight angle. A bit like a step ladder (!). We soon got used to it though. Just a small point, everything else was excellent. Overall, I'd recommend the Royal and we will certainly be coming back.

"Shortened holiday break!!"

16/09/2017

Stayed here before, had issues with breakfast times, but having lost our beloved dog, thought a break in Jersey would be a great tonic- chose to give this hotel another chance and our room was brilliant, but we had only been on the island a few hours when rec'd a call from home saying my Dad had only days to live and we should come back home- sorted flights at huge cost- rip off merchants, but getting that sorted. I suggested to the hotel we only pay for the one night we had stayed, having paid upfront for the whole trip, to be told sorry no refund- well my Dad died and we got home in time but where's the compassion. Booking.com we're useless too in fighting our corner- will never use either company again- shame on you both

"Absolutely Fine"

12/09/2017

Booked this hotel on half board at £89 a night. Very Impressed. Everything you would expect from Best Western. Check in fast and simple, give a card to secure any extras to be charged to room I requested a quiet room on a high floor and was not disappointed. My room (315) was 3 floors up at the back of the building, about a weeks walk from reception, not a problem as I like to be quiet, but ask for a closer room if walking is a problem for you. Room was spotlessly cleaned, and was cleaned and tidied everyday. Housekeeping come from 8 am onward and was a little early for me one day but had no problem coming back later. Room features Safe, Iron & Board, hairdryer, fan and phone as well as the usual TV and coffee equipment etc. Bathroom was clean and tidy at all times but the shower is useless, over the bath type linked to a mixer tap. The riser rail is set ridiculously low and even when the head is at the highest setting is still only about chest high, the corner bath features a seat for showering sat down but the shower cannot be angled over the seat sufficiently without soaking the bathroom. Yes I learned the hard way, at least plenty of towels to mop up! Water pressure constantly fluctuates too meaning the shower button drops back down and switches back to tap when the pressure drops. Hence only 4 stars On to the food: Breakfast is served in the restaurant area and is very good quality, wait at the entrance to be seated, when at the table an order for hot drinks and toast is taken and you will be directed to the self service area. Buffet has a selection of breads, cereals, fruits and cold meats and cheeses, plus there is a choice of Full English options available (eggs have to be ordered separately and are cooked to order), No black pudding though :( The younger suited guy in charge of the breakfast area (sorry, didn't catch his name) is jovial and friendly, nice to see first thing in the morning. I took my first evening meal in the restaurant, but I have to say it was not for me, Its far too formal, seat pulled out, napkin draped for you, too much french on the menu, over complicated dishes and a poncy atmosphere. Not a bad thing for some people I'm sure but not my style. Food can also be served in the bar area but this was busy most evenings so I opted to order from the room service menu. This is fantastic, a range of simple nourishing dishes including steaks, salmon, burgers and pasta dishes delivered to the room about 20 minutes after order for a tray charge of £4. Breakfast can be ordered the night before for delivery to the room too. On check out there was an issue of being charged for meals that should've been included in the half board rate but this was resolved with no fuss at all. All in all a very good hotel

Thank you for your custom. We are pleased that you were very impressed by our hotel and that we were everything you would expect from Best Western. Your feedback is appreciated as this helps us to improve our hotel for the future. Thank you once again.

Would not rate this the best . A bit dated. Reminded me of Fawlty towers. Clean but very tired. Would not recommend. The hotel is on the edge of town around a ten minute walk to the centre. Wifi worked well and staff are very helpful.

Thank you for your great feedback on our helpful staff. Our team hold a Gold level Investor in people award which is a rare International award for any hotel business. We were established as an hotel in the 1840's and our listed architecture is intrinsic to this style of hotel. The AA have only recently awarded us an enhanced 'Silver level' three Star grading; we are proud to be the only hotel in the Channel Islands with this award. The Royal has retained its AA Rosette for our catering standards for the tenth year this year as well as the highest 'Five Star' hygiene award from the local public health authority. We feel we should make these points for extra comfort in addition to us meeting standards set down by the Best Western International hotel Brand. Thank you once again.

"Mixed experience"

Stayed on a business trip and found the room adequate although there was a (locked) door to the adjoining room which meant that you could hear everything. The room was also very hot. I ate in the bar in the evening: it was a good meal with quick and friendly service. Breakfast was a different experience. Needing to get to an appointment I went down at 0730 as this was the earliest possible and had to queue up to get into the dining room. It turned out that one person was taking the room number, walking each individual/group to the table, taking the coffee order, passing this on, before returning to reception to collect the next person, with a distinct lack of urgency about the process. This was time consuming if you are in a hurry. No instructions were given relating to what was available and where, and the coffee and toast arrived when I had almost finished my main course, but without milk. It took a while to attract someone's attention to ask for milk which should not be necessary anyway. The beans on the buffet were lukewarm, and the only egg option available was some rather unappetising looking scrambled egg. i was not aware of the option of ordering fried egg although from other reviews it appears that this would have involved a longer wait! Morning waiting staff were not particularly friendly nor attentive.

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your comments which we have discussed in detail for the benefit of future guests. We are pleased that you enjoyed our freshly prepared bar menu. As we have previously reported, it is rare to receive comment in respect of service delivery times at breakfast. Most breakfast items are available from the buffet and the same style of menu has been in place for many years. We have reviewed service arrangements following your comments on the wait time for items ordered freshly prepared directly from the kitchen. Again, thank you for this feedback. Finally, there are only a few interconnecting bedrooms within the hotel and we were at a period of maximum occupancy during your stay with many of our guests travelling as part of a group. Such interconnecting bedrooms are often used for family parties but few children were staying at this time. Our reception team has noted your comments for the future. Thank you and we hope to have the pleasure to welcome you back at some future date.

"Lovely conservatory and terrace"

08/09/2017

I was a little taken aback when I discovered that the Royal is part of the Best Western franchise but my fears were unfounded and the hotel exceeded my expectations. Situated a 10 minute stroll from the main area of St Helier and another few minutes to the harbour and museum it is in a good location. There are a number of decent restaurants moments away. Within the hotel there is a formal restaurant which I did not use except for breakfast and also food is available in the bar which was very good. The bar is also open to nonresidents. I found the breakfast buffet somewhat limited and the service was somewhat slow. The availability of porage, kippers and eggs in various ways seemed to be a bit of a secret The hotel seems to have been extended into several adjoining buildings and when I first occupied my room it seemed to take forever to reach.. It would have been very helpful if reception had told me there was a short cut across the terrace. My room was a very good size for a sole occupant but contained 3 beds and would have been crowded with 3 people. There was insufficient drawer space for one let alone three but a good sized bathroom. The staff in all areas were exceptionally friendly and helpful but particularly in the bar My room (139?) looked out onto premises housing office cleaning services which started operations about 8 am but I don't think any of the rooms have good views other than those that overlook the terrace. There is only one lift, lots of steps in odd places and a long walk to some of the rooms

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback. We are so pleased that we exceeded your expectations and that you liked our location, our freshly prepared bar menu and our conservatory area. It is indeed the case that it is often quicker to walk across our first floor terrace to access certain bedrooms. This is an old building with the quirks you might expect. The room I stayed in overlooked the first floor conservatory area and was very warm, even with the windows wide open. There is no air conditioning so this would be an issue during hot weather. The staff are helpful and the food is good. I did find that service, especially at breakfast, could be on the slow side - having waited 25 minutes for a fried egg one morning!

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review

This hotel is near the top of town about 10 minutes walk to the main street and harbour. The rooms are modern but small and quirky. Note that there is no air con so in summer this could be an issue - our room 119 although quiet was quite warm and on the small side. The food here is very good but there is some issue with the time it takes to get served. Breakfast is a buffet but if you want porridge or a poached egg you may wait up to 20 minutes, this was the experience of many in our group. It has a good bar area and the staff were very helpful.

"Lovely hotel a short walk from the centre."

The hotel is situated close to the town centre and is very quiet. Rooms seemed large and had tea and coffee making facilities. Beds were comfortable. Staff were amazing. Reception gave me a warm welcome and the restaurant staff were exceptional. I had two breakfasts and one dinner there. Food was also top class. There was also an outdoor terrace area for sitting out in.

Thank you for your fantastic comments on our team and our catering. It is wonderful that you enjoyed your stay. We are pleased that you found our town centre location to be good and that you enjoyed our extensive terrace area. Thank you once again.

"Excellent breakfast - Good Location"

The Royal is located near Millennium Park (nice playground - great cafe and ice creams!) in a convenient location. They don't have a swimming pool but a 5 minute walk to another local hotel (same owner) takes you to an indoor / outdoor pool and Jazuzzi / Steamroom. We went most days! The breakfast was great with all staff friendly and hardworking. We stayed in Room 218 and this was rather noisy with street noise very early in the morning. It wasn't double glazed and catch on the left window didn't work either and was broken. The hotel is historic and about 170 years old with some great features. The floors are somewhat uneven (kind of interesting effect walking about really!) Would stay again but would have some ear plugs handy next time!

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
The Millennium Park is indeed a wonderful feature just steps away from our town centre hotel, in the direction towards the town shopping centre. We are the closest hotel to this wonderful public amenity and receive great feedback on the architectural landscaping of this new public park area. It is great that you enjoyed your stay. Our nearby Monterey Hotel is in the same family ownership and its great indoor facilities are offered free of charge to Royal guests as an added facility. It is also possible to avail of the all day menu at the Monterey and the Monterey is fully licensed. You are so kind to point out that we are over 170 years in existence as an hotel. This means that the hotel does have some great features, as you make clear. We are a more quirky hotel in this respect and this is appreciated by a great many of our guests. Any maintenance items mentioned will be corrected in our routine maintenance. We directly employ a team of engineers and as such it is always helpful to advise reception directly to ensure swift attention. We are a town centre hotel on a large site. We are set away from any nightlife and if town noise is an issue for prospective guests then please do feel free to request a quieter bedroom at time of booking. Many bedrooms are inward facing on our hotel site. We hope this helps and thank you for your wonderful comments on our hotel, location and catering. These are all very much appreciated by our team at the hotel.

Really enjoyed our stay here this week. Staff were very polite and helpful and there were always staff around to ask. Our double room was fine, plenty of places to store clothes. Tea and coffee facilities in the room and we got biscuits every day. Complimentary shampoo and shower gel in the bathroom. Free wifi all over the hotel not just the foyer. We ste in the hotel a few times and we could not fault the standard of meals. There was also a conservatory and sun terrace on the first floor where we sat out a few sfternoons

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful comments. These are very much appreciated by our team at the Royal. We are an AA Rosette three Star Silver Award Hotel in the town centre of St. Helier. "This hotel is a story of two halves"

06/08/2017

My recommendation is don't put up with a non refurbished room. We got one the first night as we arrived late and they said they could not move us. It was not a great experience. Mixer taps meant you could not moderate the shower temperature. Poor layout and so dated even my Nan would have complained. So much light coming in under the door and thin curtains it was hardly worth turning off the light. Swapped for the second floor the second night. Shower had a temperature control. Modern clean and fresh. Thick curtains to keep the light out and bigger TV. Staff were friendly and helpful but as I say don't put up with a dated room.

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
We were established as an hotel in the 1840's and as such we are not a modern purpose built hotel. Our bedrooms do vary and we refurbish a portion of the hotel bedrooms each year - as such some will be more recently decorated etc. than others but, as reviews will testify, we do generally receive great comments at the Royal for all accommodation. It is usually possible to move within the hotel if you have a preference for a different style of accommodation. We were pleased to help in this instance too as we have many types of bedrooms in terms of style but remain a traditional hotel. Thank you for your comments in respect of our staff. These are much appreciated by the team here at the Royal.

"A great week on Jersey"

02/08/2017

A lovely room (107) but somewhat noisy as next to a stairway BUT the Table-d'hote evening menus (7 nights) were excellent and the serving staff very friendly and super efficient. The breakfasts too were all one would wish.. I was here on a weeks break arranged by Glenton Holidays flying from Glasgow and although the weather was mixed, I managed, with the help of the magnificent local bus service to hop on and off and visit most of the sites of interest that were on my list.. Only a 10 minute walk to Liberation Square and the bus station and some 5 minutes from a sister hotel where one could use the pool... I would certainly stay here again!

We stayed there one night with our 2 kids. The room was nice and clean and the staff were very helpful and professional. They organised a cot for our daughter and printed off our boarding passes. The hotel is well located and there is a good kids play park close by.

"Mainly very good, but room for improvement"

20/07/2017

The Royal is an old building, originating in the 1800s. It's clearly been added to, altered and modernised over time, resulting in some parts being more 21st century than others. The public rooms, Reception, Restaurant and Bar are very good, look recently refurbished and are staffed by an excellent team. There were one or two glitches - our room didn't have a safe, an amazing omission for a modern tourist hotel, but one was provided fairly quickly (although it wasn't bolted down !). Our room overlooked the terrace at the back of the building so there was no traffic noise - but that was made up for in spades by the noise from the gulls ! Don't get me wrong, I like the dawn chorus, but this was a continual screech from about 4 am. Other hotels we've stayed in employ a man with a hawk to solve this problem - maybe the Royal should team up with Jersey Zoo ! The room was in an older part of the building, smallish, but adequate (just), with a comfy bed, two chairs and a small table - and a bathroom that looked (a) like an add on to a previous 1950s boarding house room, and (b) like a DIY job with miles of very obvious silicone sealant. The shower was a joke ! Getting a regulated temperature was impossible. Improvement needed here. Buffet breakfast is fine - the cook to order options (eggs, porridge etc) less impressive, with seemingly poor control of the orders. A wider continental meat/cheese selection and fresh fruit would have been nice too. We stayed B+B, but ate in the Seasons restaurant a couple of times. It's very good ! Imaginative menus, and very well presented but portion sizes could be a bit bigger. Also the wine prices were steep for relatively mediocre wines. The only comment about the bar would be . . . The Prices ! Ouch ! Overall, we enjoyed our stay in Jersey and at the Royal. This hotel is close to the centre, so fine for eating out, shopping, transport etc. Given a bit of attention to the shortcomings it would be an ideal holiday stay. A review of the bar prices wouldn't hurt either. I'd stay here again.

20/07/2017

I spent 4 days at this hotel in 2016 so rebooking for 2017 i did without hesitation. All the staff are friendly , welcoming and helpful with special mention to those on reception The bar food was excellent and freshly cooked. The beds are comfortable and facilities within the room were good.I had a superior room on the first floor with terrace. I do however have a two suggestions .For guests booking a superior room a small under the table fridge would have been handy.in the room The other is about safety in the bathroom of 109.There is no safety rail to hold on to as you get out the bath after showering. which could be affixed to the wall at the end of the bath , opposite end to the taps. Overall though i have no problem recommendIng this hotel to others.

We had 3 nights stay from 08 July 2017. We booked this hotel as part of a package through Easy Jet from Newcastle. The hotel is in a great place handy for the centre of St Helier. The room was a great size with en Suite; the sheets and towels were changed each day; The Breakfast was great and set us up for the day. We ate in the bar each evening as the food was so good- the specials menu was great food and great value. Each day we took some time out to sit out on the first floor open air area- great area, quiet and peaceful place to have a G&T and recover from the days tourism. The room was warm but a fan was provided- but that meant the weather was great! We would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone and plan to return soon

We stayed at this hotel from Friday until Monday, as guests at a wedding that was held there on 1st July. It is an old building, full of character, very clean and comfortable. The food was very good especially at the wedding, and the breakfast choices were good also. The patio area was very pretty and colourful, and the staff were pleasant. The hotel is situated just along the street from the town centre and also within walking distance of the harbour. We enjoyed our stay at the Royal.

We stayed here for 6 nights from 18th June for our 30th wedding anniversary. We were touched to find a bottle of Prosecco waiting for us in our room on arrival which was a lovely thought. We found the staff to be very polite, hard-working and friendly. The room we stayed in was at the back of the hotel and although a little hot, was of a good size with a lovely bathroom. The weather was particularly hot that week, with temperatures in the 30s. Air conditioning in the rooms would have been nice, but the public areas and bar were beautifully cool. The food in the restaurant was exceptional and beautifully presented, with a good choice on the menu every night. The restaurant staff were very polite and helpful, and Lawrence particularly was very professional and friendy in his approach, moving us to a cooler part of the restaurant when we asked. The hotel is well placed for the town and buses, which we used each day to get around the island. We would have no hesitation in returning again when we visit Jersey.

Stayed for 7 days lovely staff especially reception and bar staff. We ate in the bar most evenings and the food is of a high standard. Our room was kept very well although a bit on the small side with a tiny shower cubicle. This hotel is not suitable if you have mobility problems unfortunately, otherwise we would have loved to return. The Hotel is very convenient for the town just a few minutes walk to the centre. Can recommend a stay here.

03/07/2017

We stayed here for a week in a standard room on a half board basis. The minute you walk into this hotel you notice how smart the whole place is. Everywhere has lovely decor and is spotless. The room has everything you need and the bed was very comfortable. Our shower room was a wee bit small. The room was quiet. The breakfasts were excellent as were the evening meals. All the food was to a very high standard and had good variety which is important if you stay for a week. We enjoyed too the conservatory and the sun terrace. The staff are wonderful. They could not do enough for you and were always happy and cheerful. It was easy to find someone too if you did have a query. I did not meet the chef but would like to thank him for making our week when the weather was not good such a joy. Carmen runs the restaurant in a beautiful understated way ably helped by her team. Catalina anticipated our every need. Sometimes little things say a lot. The steps at the entrance have shiny handrails. At all times they were spotless. We consider we had excellent value for our money and would direct anyone to stay here.

This is a lovely hotel, very stylish with good clean comfortable rooms, that include all the usual accessories plenty of towels, supplies of soap, shampoo etc, iron, ironing board, fan, alarm clock, chairs and room to move about. Huge conservatory to sit in if you want to, leading to a patio with tables, chairs and loungers. There is a lift if you want to avoid all the stairs. It is only a 15 minute walk from the centre of town and the bus station. Overall it is quiet, we had a room at the back overlooking the street below and had windows open but it was not a problem to sleep. The rooms have no air-con but a fan is provided. The Seasons Restaurant, where we booked half board, provided an excellent buffet breakfast with a wide range of items, and a great choice of evening meals. The meals were superb and the staff were attentive, friendly, helpful and extremely efficient. Our thanks to Carmen and the rest of the team, could find no fault there at all.

28/06/2017

We stayed at this hotel last week for 7 nights on half board basis. The decor and cleanliness of the hotel was perfect. The room we had was large with a double and single bed in the room. It did face a back street but was over the service entrance so was aware of some noise and bins collection. A huge bathroom with some toiletries provided of soap, shampoo and body wash. A big thank you to Ashleigh and team on reception and Carmen from the restaurant who led a team of staff who did excellent silver service in the restaurant Seasons. The food was excellent with a daily change of menu with the choice of three menu options. These are bar food, evening three courses and a la carte option. There is no swimming pool but a conservatory and sun area on the first floor. Some guests (not us) had the advantage of their room opening up onto this area. Disadvantages were that the rooms were a warren of passages and steps which some guests might find a disadvantage. The hotel is brisk 20 minute walk to bus terminal and shops and longer to access the beach. There is no passing buses or stops.

This was our second stay at the Best Western Royal in Jersey. Our room clean, bed a little soft but that is personal preference. The towels spotless clean and so soft. The staff were all cheerful and very helpful what more could you wish for. The Seasons Restaurant excellent menu choices to suit every taste fresh local very enjoyable. Good work Chef! It was our Ruby wedding Anniversary and to our surprise the hotel surprised us and found a wonderful bottle of champagne in our room with a hand written card with their congratulations. There is a very pleasant conservatory leading out to spacious roof patio all comfy also lingers for sun bathing vey relaxing. Than you again Best Royal we will come again.

"Beautiful Jersey"

27/06/2017

Just returned from a weeks holiday in Jersey, we stopped at the Best Weston Royal Hotel. The Hotel is a twenty minutes walk from town and the Harbour. The Hotel itself is an old building with lots of steps and corridors, although there is a lift it is difficult to avoid the steps depending where your room is situated. The front of the building can be noisey, particularly if it's warm and you need to sleep with window open, so ask for a quite room. The staff were always helpful , but the highlight was the food, plenty of choice at breakfast, hot or cold, the evening meal were superb, couldn't fault it. We had a wounderful week and would certainly go back again.

Stayed at the royal for 5 nights with my mother from 19th June. From the moment we checked in the staff could not have been more friendly or helpful nothing was too much trouble to them. We had a balcony room overlooking the terrace spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The food in both the bar and the dining room was amazing . It's not far into town and you won't find a better hotel in st helier. All the staff were friendly efficient and helpful but Special thanks to Ashleigh for her helpful easy friendly manner on reception to Stanley in the bar for his big smile and carmen in the restaurant whose attention to detail was second to none. Don't hesitate to stay here you won't be disappointed I certainly would love to return one day. Thanks to all at the royal for making our stay in jersey a great one

"Parts are a little dated"

20/06/2017

We stayed here on a discount deal and in a suite. We have no complaints about the staff or the service at all. without exception all were polite and helpful and a credit to the hotel. The room, whilst cleaned and beds made everyday was dated and the shower pitiful, to the point we had to run a bath. Had we been paying full price we would certainly have asked for a move to another room. I understand they are part way through a refurbishment of the rooms, which might account for this. We would go back as in general terms the hotel is well worth visiting, but be sure to ask for one of the newly refurbished rooms.

All our bedrooms meet the requirements for our grading. The Royal is traditional is style and has a good range of facilities and catering. Thank you for your comments and custom. These are much appreciated.

"Great All Round"

14/06/2017

I stayed here for a night last weekend. The room rate was very reasonable seeing as I only booked the night before- one of the best in town in fact. I was greeted with a very friendly welcome from the receptionist who explained everything in detail, my 1st floor room was spotlessly clean and had everything I needed for a short stay, including a very comfortable bed and good en suite. The bar is reasonably priced, and there's a lovely terrace on the 1st floor to relax on. It's a little further from town than some hotels but it's easily walkable (no more than 10 minutes, and on a flat). I'd definitely recommend the Royal Hotel and will certainly stay again.

Having just stayed 4 nights at this hotel I must say it was very welcoming and clean. On arrival we was greeted at reception by a warm smile , the check in was effortless and was pleased to have been upgraded to larger room with a four poster bed very nice touch and very happy with the room. Breakfast was very good and the staff catered to all your needs. We had a meal in the bar which was excellent and the bar staff where excellent and friendly. The hotel is about fifteen minutes walk into town which was not a problem to us. That's again to all the staff at this hotel for making our stay very special we would recommend to anyone looking for a good but inexpensive hotel.

08/06/2017

Stayed in this hotel for several nights. Suite we booked was very nice, clean and bright. Meals excellent with varied choice. Fairly close to town centre. Our one complaint was the number of steps throughout the premises. We were not advised about this by our travel agent and my husband who walks with a stick had to struggle up five sets of steps to our suite as it was nowhere near the one lift at the other end of the hotel. There were even corridors with both steps going up and down along their length! The dining room had steps and the main entrance of the hotel had steps. Sadly this hotel is completely unsuitable for anyone with mobility problems.

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your kind comment that we are a lovely hotel. This is appreciated. Our suite accommodation is furthest from reception but access is made easier if the lift is taken to the first floor level and then the hotel terrace can act as a transit to the suite accommodation. This reduces level changes considerably. In general, it is always advisable to notify us in advance of any mobility issues as many bedrooms are close to reception and our passenger lift. We are sorry that you found access more difficult and thank you for your valued comments and custom.

"Speedy response to mix up with breakfast"

31/05/2017

We had a taxi booked for 7.30 to ferry terminal and had ordered room service breakfast for 7.00 (which was complimentary as restaurant wasn't open until 7.30) Breakfast didn't arrive until 7.25 which was when we were leaving the room. We were annoyed as it was a full day trip. On our return at 9.20 pm restaurant had remained open to serve our evening meal(only 2 of us in the restaurant) we had previously arranged meal for 8.45 but ferry was late returning. Manager spoke to us as soon as first course served and apologised for the delay in the morning he told us the reason (which was human error) and offered an acceptable solution for our inconvenience. All staff are friendly and helpful, rooms are clean, food is excellent and plentiful. My advice is sort out any issues should they occur Don't leave it and complain after check out. Give the hard working staff the opportunity to resolve it.

"A good hotel for a busy short break in a central location"

30/05/2017

I think my average rating for this hotel comes from 2 things. 1/The rather rude/unhelpful greeting on arrival. 2/ The dated room. To explain, our flight was delayed into Jersey by 4 hours so we didn't reach the hotel until 12.30am (we had already rung ahead to say we would be late). My husband pulled into the entrance to the car park at which point we realised that we needed a pin number to enter the car park. I therefore got out of the car and went to the main doors of the hotel. The doors were locked (fine for security purposes) so I rung the buzzer for night reception. Shortly after the receptionist arrived and opened the door. I explained to him that we were checking in, that we had a delayed flight and that my husband was sitting at the car park entrance and did he have the pin number. The receptionist looked at me in disbelief and said in a very rude tone "he'll be lucky - it's full". He explained that we should have reserved a space in advance. I simply said "oh" in surprise and explained that we were not told this. He then said to me abruptly and rudely and like I was some kind of idiot "this is a town centre hotel, we don't have lots of parking". (Keep in mind that I am tired, hungry, thirsty and a little upset from the ordeal of the journey we'd had). I then asked where we could park the reply was "no idea". At that point I was about to either completely lose my rag or burst into tears and he then decided that he would let us in the car park and take our car key so that they could move our car in the morning if needed (like he was doing us a massive favour). He then showed us to our room. The next morning we discovered from much more helpful and friendly reception staff that parking does not need to be booked in advance, that it's quite acceptable to block other cars in as long as we leave the keys at reception and at worst that they have a sister hotel with more parking that they could direct us to if needed. Why didn't the night receptionist explain this? Why did he treat me like I was a huge inconvenience and like I was completely stupid. This was not what we needed after the journey we'd had. We needed someone sympathetic and friendly to welcome us. This is just unacceptable for reception staff and this did mar our stay somewhat. Rooms are dated and really need an overhaul. I would say it's the most dated hotel room I have stayed in, in quite some time! I agree with a previous reviewers comment of the tiny television set! Strange! That said, the room was clean and comfortable. We overlooked the courtyard so noise was no issue for us. Breakfast was really good and a pleasant experience each morning. The staff at breakfast are polite, friendly and very quick even at busy times and the food is really good too. The hotel is in a good location for the town centre. We didn't eat in the restaurant for dinner - too many good places in the town that we wanted to try! Overall a pleasant stay and if you aren't going to stay in your room an awful lot and you aren't going to arrive past midnight to a rude receptionist then you'll probably enjoy it. Just don't expect a modern room. If you want that - look elsewhere.

Yet another lovely stay at a Best Western Hotel. Staff are so very pleasant and helpful. The hotel has an excellent restaurant where it serves a full continental buffet breakfast cooked very well and hot. You should never go hungry at breakfast! The bar is a tad small for the size of the hotel but even so, it has lots to offer. Serving meals and lite bites and live music Friday nights. On the down side, ( personal observation) the bathroom is very small with no bath, and the room can get very hot in summer. However there are fans available, aswell as iron and ironing board, hairdryer and trouser press. Full tea and coffee making facilities in the room with biscuits and a big wall mirror and large dressing table mirror. So all in all I'm rating this 10 / 10 . Thankyou Best Western /The Royal

We are so pleased that you felt it correct to award 10/10 as a rating given your strong knowledge of our hotel property, our catering and team of staff. This is very much appreciated. For your information. the Royal proudly holds a Gold level Investor in People Award, an AA Rosette as well as an AA Silver Award. We are a very traditional and some say quite quirky hotel, in the town centre. The Royal has been in operation since the 1840's and is very much an established part of the life of the town with its mix of tourist, business and local clientele. Thank you once again. We hope to have the pleasure to welcome you back soon.

"Nice Hotel close to Shopping area"

24/05/2017

Check in was quick and easy for this hotel that is located about 5-10 minutes walk from the main shopping area of St.Helier, Queen Street and King Street. Room was a double room although it had both a double bed and single bed. The room was clean and all the bedding was clean and of good quality as was the bathroom and towels etc. Two issues with the room though, the TV provided although it has many channels is very small and when lying on the beds its hard to see the screen. Noise - the room overlooked the main road where there are traffic lights and hence it can be quite noisy. The windows and double glazing add little noise protection, so I would always ask for a room that faced to the back. The breakfast area looked good, but I never tried the food so not sure how good it is. Staff are friendly and helpful.

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your custom and feedback following your stay at our town centre Best Western Royal Hotel. All our TV's meet the size requirements set within our Brand and we have upgraded many bedrooms within the hotel to even larger TV units this past winter. We are a town hotel and many bedrooms face over our large internal terrace areas and these may be requested when booking if this is a preference. Thank you once again.

"Exactly what we needed!"

We had a lovely stay here and for the price we couldn't have been happier. The staff were very welcoming and the breakfast was available most of the morning which meant there was no rush to get up. The parking was good as the hotel has its own private car park and we were never unable to get a space. If we visit Jersey again we will have no hesitation in coming back to this hotel.

We are so pleased that we met your needs so well at the Royal. Our team of staff will be delighted with your comments and it is a great encouragement that you would have no hesitation in returning. Thank you once again.

"Excellent Base for a Short Stay on Jersey"

21/05/2017

Although quite small, our room at the Royal was well laid out and appeared to have been quite recently decorated. It was fresh and clean and, perhaps because it was at the end of a corridor, we heard no noise at all from within the hotel. However, with the window open due to the warmth, there was a fair bit of street noise, particularly early in the mornings. Staff were all friendly, helpful and responsive, and breakfast was good - kept us going most of the day! As we'd hired a car, and given parking constraints in St Helier, the hotel car park was a real bonus. We also found the hotel ideally situated for exploring St Helier on foot. Overall, very happy with our stay.

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
We are delighted that you found our town centre hotel to be an excellent base for your stay. The Royal is proud to announce that we have recently been awarded an hotel Silver Star award by the AA following an unannounced inspection. We believe that we are the only AA Three Star hotel in the Channel Islands to have had this awarded and are pleased that the AA has recognised our hotel and team of staff in this way. This means that the Royal is seen by the AA to offer a superior level of quality within its Star rating, high standards of hotel keeping in particular hospitality, service and cleanliness. We hope to welcome you back sometime soon. Thank you for your custom and feedback.

"Not overly impressed"

17/05/2017

Staff very pleasant, helpfull, breakfast was very good. It is well situated however we felt the hotel, as a whole, was a bit tired / dated. Our room was rather basic, very noisy both from inside (other guests) and outside (complete lack of secondary glazing and busy road) Weather was fairly muggy and feel the whole hotel could have benefited from some rudimentary aircon.

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your kind comments on our staff, breakfast and location. These are appreciated. We are a traditional hotel dating from 1842 and some parts of the building are listed by the local Planning authority. We have secondary glazing in almost all listed areas (double glazing elsewhere to all areas) and we are actively looking at secondary glazing for the very few bedrooms that remain without. Thank you for this feedback and we are always happy to look to move guests within the hotel to make their stay more comfortable. Much of the hotel overlooks internal terrace areas as we are fortunate to have a large town centre site. Jersey has a maritime climate being in the English Channel and has mostly cooler nights. As such, few hotels on the Island have an air-conditioning at present. Thank you again for your feedback and custom. It is appreciated.

"Upgrade was appreciated"

4
04/05/2017

Well situated hotel allows easy access to St Helier attractions. Narrow roads make parking and stopping difficult, our taxi had to pull up some distance away. We were lucky enough to be upgraded and this did improve the quality of our room which has an added four poster bed. Room was small and congested. Bathroom was a good size but we had a large bath with no shower, only a low level hand sprinkler for use with the bath. We stayed four days and each day the room was carefully cleaned and cared for. Breakfast offered all possibilities and is recommended. Tables for breakfast were too small and could not accommodate teapots .. coffee pots .. toast .. breakfast plates, side plates. You have to be prepared to use stairs, there is a lift but each floor had may levels and this was clearly proving difficult for some residents. Most of the staff spoke English but it was very difficult to make them understand and often this resulted in other staff being involved when any conversation was necessary.

"Good for a short stay"

02/05/2017

The hotel is on a fairly busy road but traffic noise was not too bad after 11pm. It is ituated about 25 minutes walk from the bus station which was good. The room was bright and clean, staff were friendly and the breakfasts were good.

Thank you for your kind review. We are a very popular well established town centre hotel and hold an AA Rosette for our catering. This AA Rosette has just been retained once again following our regular annual inspection from the AA. Our established team are very pleased to have maintained this accolade over the past decade. Your comments and review are appreciated.

"Ideal position for town"

30/04/2017

We were on a 5day/4night coach package. Lovely room, clean and outside terrace space (which we didn't expect). with plenty big enough bathroom. Unfortunatly it did seem a little noisy with what we thought maybe air conditioning and the heating coming on made a bit of noise to but after the first night/morning did not notice so much and understand the age of the building may make this hard to rectify but if this sort of thing would bother you then best mention you need a quiet room when booking. Staff were polite and helpful As we were in a coach party our menu was different to the restaurant and so more limited ( understandabley so as the rate we paid was good value so not an issue ) we ate there three out of four nights ( went out on last night no reflection on hotel but had pre-planned a celabration dinner on our own ) The food we had was good except the night we chose the Tuna which when it arrived looked good and a surprisingly good portion but unfortunatly was very much overcooked it was just about eatable but not enjoyable asked waiter to pass information to the Chef so as whatever went wrong this time won't happen again. Breakfast choice was very good and impressed that the fresh fruit salad was fresh fruit and not tinned also delicious natural yogurt my husband who chose to have cooked breakfast was pleased with choice and quality. What I did not like and was very much surprised by was having to let the hotel know what I wanted to eat more than a week before we arrived then again each night we were asked what we wanted the following night which was bad enough but to have the menu given to you while you were actually still eating that nights meal I felt was impolite.I have been on many coach holidays and never before have I been asked what I want to eat the following night If the staff can't cope with a large party being served at the same time without knowing what each person wants to eat in advance then maybe staggering guests meals like they would have been if booking individually would be a good idea. Could understand a large party needing to all eat together (like a family / work party but on a coach holiday we are all individual people just travelling together in smaller groups and sure most would not mind eating in a smaller group ) Generally speaking I liked the hotel and would like to go back sometime believe the things I didn't like was more because we were in a large party and would not have happened had we all gone individually I maybe wrong but it was the impression I got.

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your kind comments following your stay at our town centre hotel. These are appreciated. It is not always easy to meet all needs within a group stay. We did facilitate that some members of your tour group dined separately as they made a request to do so and we were able to accommodate their wishes on this occasion. Tour group guests only: It is important for us to fully understand food orders for busy tour groups. A menu for the following evening is given out normally before the dessert course. We have found in the past that if we wait until the end of the meal some diners leave the restaurant early and this creates more dissatisfaction and confusion for the following evening - such confusion we seek to avoid for the sake of the smooth running of the hotel for all concerned. Thank you for letting us know of your feelings as this gives the opportunity for us to try to explain matters from our viewpoint. You are quite correct that the above would not have happened had you travelled independently. We are so pleased that generally speaking you liked our hotel. This is very much appreciated and we hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back sometime soon. You would be most welcome at the Royal.

"A nice base for a short break in Jersey"

28/04/2017

Stayed for 3 nights in April. The location is good, a reasonable short work into the heart of St. Helier. The check in procedure was friendly and efficient and the staff were all very professional throughout my stay. My single room was clean and tidy if a little "compact", and serviced every day. Excellent tea tray with plenty of packets of coffee and chocolate, biscuits etc. I stayed bed and breakfast, I got a deal with breakfast included. I wouldn't have paid the advertised price for breakfast, but what there was, was good and plenty of choice. Tea/coffee and toast plus other options cooked to order such as kippers/poached eggs etc. I only have 2 small niggles about my stay. Firstly, the windows did not close fully. The room was at the back of the hotel and this was on a reasonably busy road. Not being used to traffic and road noise, I found this to be a distraction on my first night. Fortunately I had ear plugs! There was also a breeze coming through the gaps in the windows - so I resorted to bunging up the gaps with tissue paper! The hotel would benefit from double glazing, or at least replacement windows where the seals actually join up! Secondly, I find that charging guests £1 to print out a boarding pass in this day and age, a little bit poor to be honest. I've printed many boarding passes in hotels all around the world and have never been charged to do so. Yes, they do advertise the fact it costs, but once you've committed to printing your own pass, there's not a lot you can do about it for your return flight if you subsequently find out that the hotel charges.... Other than those 2 minor things it was a pleasant and relaxing stay. A nice calm and quiet hotel with professional staff.

"Ok - but not great"

25/04/2017

Looks good from outside, and reception/bar/lounge area but room left a bit to be desired. Old sash windows didn't shut properly and the 'secondary glazing' was as much use as a chocolate teapot. Tv didn't work, signal kept going. Ate in the bar , food was good, and not too expensive.

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback and custom. This is appreciated. We are pleased that you like the hotel exterior and public areas. The Royal is an 89 bedroom town centre hotel first established in the 1840's and its structure is Listed by the local Planning Authority in certain areas. It should be noted that much of the accommodation faces internal terrace areas and that certain areas of the hotel are actually of quite recent construction too. We do have some wooden sash windows in the Listed areas of the building and do seek to maintain the fit of these windows. We will review the area you mention. Thank you. Our TV's have not caused any significant problems in the past and are always repaired or replaced when issues are identified. We are sorry for any inconvenience and always try to change out TV's quickly when a problem is known to us. Your comments on our catering standards and good value are much appreciated by our established catering team here at the hotel. We learned this week that we have again retained our AA Rosette following an unannounced inspection. A matter for which our team are most proud. Thank you for your comments.

"Cosy and comfortable"

23/04/2017

This was our first time in Jersey and we had a wonderful time. The hotel is very near the city centre, which for us was extremely convenient. We would look forward to our very comfortable clean quiet room at the end of a tiring day. Breakfast was excellent although the coffee was watery and weak on the last 3 days of our stay. The staff are very polite in the restaurant but exceptionally so at reception. Bar 27 is also great with delicious food and a welcoming atmosphere. I would like to mention though that the portion for a pasta dish my teenage son ordered was far too small. I wouldn't think twice about staying at this charming little hotel if I ever return to Jersey.

"Nearly perfect"

22/04/2017

We had a four day break to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary, having honeymooned here in 1987 (and not been back since!). Had a really nice time; the hotel is smart and all staff were unfailingly excellent, though I will single out Carmen who really looked after us in the restaurant for our anniversary meal. They provided a complimentary bottle of bubbly for this, which was appreciated. This meal was good, food beautifully presented and tasty, if not exactly threatening to make me feel I didn't need dessert to feel well fed. We also twice had lighter bar meals, which were also very well cooked and delicious. Meanwhile the buffet breakfast was superb, apart from very bland coffee, which I see I am not alone in being disappointed by. Our room, with four poster bed, was peaceful and comfortable, though mysteriously and inconveniently lacked a mirror in the bathroom. On mentioning this when we checked out, they said it was ready to be installed, but I can't help feeling they could/should have made the effort to do so before we arrived. So, a few glitches to prevent a 5 star review I'm afraid, but I wouldn't hesitate to choose to stay here again if we return to Jersey (hopefully before 2047!).

ManagerJersey, Manager at Best Western Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Gosh, what a great review. Thank you so much for your custom and feedback. Happy anniversary once again. Our catering and general staff are simply delighted with your feedback. We have reviewed the coffee arrangements since your stay. Our new bathroom to your allocated 'four poster' bedroom. We were full at the time of your stay and unfortunately a special order and unusually shaped mirror was delayed for fitment into this particular bathroom. The mirror was fitted ahead of your comments being received. These new large bathrooms with full walk-in almost flush level showers, LED mood lighting and storage areas are proving very popular. We are sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience. We are so pleased that you wouldn't hesitate to stay with us again. This means a great deal to us here at the hotel.

For our first time in Jersey with our teenager, it was a success. We have been warmly welcome. The team was very nice with us and always ready to help us. Our "family" bedroom was very comfortable and peaceful with a free of charge wifi access. We highly appreciated the bar where we could dine with our daughter. We'll certainly go back to this hotel for our next time in Saint Helier.

" Brilliant Hotel "

15/04/2017

We've visited this beautiful hotel 6 time's now & have never been disappointed. If you have any problems at any time one of the Staff Members will always sort it out without any hassle. Most of the rooms have been updated, but there are few rooms that could do with updating but even so they are all spotless. I love eating in the restaurant they make you feel so special. Breakfast is mainly buffet style, but if you want extras like fried egg ect., you can order , with out any charges. We always book Evening Meal as the food is excellent, in my option it's one of the best a la carte restaurant on the island. They don't have a swimming pool but you can use their sister hotels pool & gym which is just up the road. The bar is a perfect place to relaxing in after a hectic day. There's a friendly atmosphere & they have a few of the local beers on tap. The bar also has a great menu too. I honestly would recommend this hotel & I will still be visiting.

"Excellent throughout"

15/04/2017

Beautiful setting & location and an immaculately presented hotel. All public areas spotless, rooms similarly so. Tastefully decorated throughout. Restaurants were top class serving excellent food and offering very attentive and discrete service. Missed the 5th star for two minor issues. 1. We didn't use the nightclub but had the benefit of the music and the bass in our room till it closed in the early hours - impossible to sleep through. 2. Can't understand why people (well women actually) are allowed to take their mobile phones into the spa. I don't want to be in their photos and I don't want to share their various discussions with their friends when in the relaxation room. We are all different and I accept that I may be unusual in my desire to leave my communication devices in the locker when relaxing but it made my experience of the spa far from relaxing.

"Just Right for A Great Stay."

29/03/2017

The Roya is an older style Hotel situated just a short walk from the centre of St Helier & away from the hustle & bustle of the water front, for us an ideal Hotel for our 4 Day break. The staff were all welcoming & friendly , the service was excellent & the buffet breakfasts were very good!. We had a large Double room with access onto the Patio roof complete with rattan furniture given our Special Requests were for "Nice Weather" which was also accommodated...The room was large, well presented ,very comfortable with easy access onto "OUR" Patio given we were the only ones using the outside space!. The food served in both the Main Dinning room & the Bar was very good. The Royal was for us simple great.

We are so pleased that you feel we are just right for a great stay.

"Excellent break with friends"

27/03/2017

Stayed for 4 nights with friends on a package deal. The Hotel was everything we could have wanted. Rooms and bathrooms well equipped and spotlessly clean. We ate in the restaurant on our first night and the food and service was second to none. We would have eaten there again but had found an Italian restaurant which we wanted to sample. The staff without exception were amazing, we never saw a miserable face, any time of day/evening we were greeted with a cheery smile which, in my book, goes a long way to making your holiday great. The reception staff were most informative, even suggesting eating places which were not their own and advising routes for sight-seeing. To sum up - nothing less than an excellent rating would do. Thank you The Royal.

"Jersey Darts Festival"

15/11/2016

I was here to play in the Jersey Festival of Darts. Room was adequate if a little on the small side and the shower wasn't great on the first attempt but better on the second as it was the afternoon when I suspect less people were having a shower but nevertheless clean and they couldn't wait to clean your room. Price included a good breakfast with plenty of choice cooked, cereals, fruit, yoghurts etc. Bar was good with about expected prices for a hotel and good choice of meals, either lite bites or a bigger meal if required at very reasonable prices. Staff were helpful and friendly so no complaints there. Overall a good hotel and would definitely stay again.

Took a group of around 20 over to the Royal for the Jersey Festival of Darts as we had so much fun last year. Had a very nice room on the 2nd floor, Breakfast was excellent, bacon could have been cooked a little more but did not detract from the overall quality. Had one evening meal in the hotel and that was also excellent. Very friendly staff on reception, and a great team behind the bar with Corina and Linda the standouts, thanks for looking after us so well. Cannot wait to come back in 2017.

"Disappointing features"

3
31/10/2016

Our stay was promising to start with. The hotel is in a good location, most of the staff are excellent [but manager was invisible and silent]. 2 main negatives: there is a large sign in reception saying it is a non-smoking establishment. It isn't. The large, upstairs sun terrace is a smoking terrace and thus has to be avoided by those of us who wish to avoid smoke [and chose the hotel for that reason!!]. An even bigger problem is the 3 huge aircon generators going 24/7 that completely prevent sleep!! We want to go back to St. Helier but it will have to be to another hotel which doesn't not have these problems.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback and valued custom. The Royal was established in the 1840's and we feel that we are an historic characterful full service hotel as opposed to a modern purpose built building. We do not allow any smoking within the confines of the hotel buildings. The terrace areas form a very large outside area which may be used by guests and we respect that smoking area provision is a balance but this balance we have struck does not cause us negative comment in general. We do not operate air conditioning plant at night. It has not been possible for us to work out to which plant you are referring regarding noise and we do not receive negative comment generally in this area. Thank you for your feedback. Finally, thank you for your overall comments that we are in a good location with mostly excellent staff. Our management are on duty each day and evening and work in with the team of staff to maintain standards. We hope that we may have the pleasure of welcoming you back to the Royal at a future date. You would be most welcome at the Royal. Thank you once again.

Booked on for a weeks stay and from start to finish found the facilities and service to be of a very high standard. We requested a change of room (for personal reasons) and were given a more suitable room within an hour. The TV picture was slightly faulty and it was changed within an hour. The restaurant and bar food are of a high quality and the staff friendly and efficient. A very nice hotel, good location, good staff and good service what more could you want!

We have just returned from a four night stay at the Royal hotel, we found all the staff at the hotel professional, helpful, and welcoming. We were fortunate to stay at the Royal hotel after our original plans fell through. Laurence was excellent at the reception desk, he was professional, calm, reassuring and soon had us settled in the bar where we had a hot drink and a lovely evening meal whilst he sorted everything for us. The food was excellent, as were the staff. It was a true delight to stay at this hotel, we cannot speak highly enough of all the staff who ensured the stay was wonderful. We would would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely return. Thank you to everyone at the Royal, you have much to be proud of.

"Comfortable Hotel in a good location"

21/10/2016

Stayed at the Best Western Royal Hotel from 5-10/10/16 on a bed and breakfast basis. The hotel is situated about 5-10 minutes walk from Liberation Square which I would say is the hub of St Helier. Lovely seafront and harbour/marina to take a leisurely walk. The hotel itself is old and full of character, we found it spotlessly clean and the staff were polite and attentive and nothing was a bother. The breakfast was plentiful, varied and nicely cooked. Although there were only two of us, our room was spacious and had a double bed and a single bed. The decor and cleanliness of the room was very good and there was lots of storage space. Our room was situated at the front of the hotel and although there was some street noise, it was not an issue for us. A cleaner came in every day and towels were changed daily. We had a look around the hotel and followed the sign to the Sun Terrace and was very surprised to find a huge conservatory-type room with a sun terrace which I can imagine would be well used in the summer months. The bar in the hotel (Bar 27) is quite big but I am of the opinion that it is uninviting and dowdy - quite the opposite to the hotel which was light and airy. It was our first visit to this hotel and indeed to Jersey and I am sure it won't be our last and would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to my friends.

"Not so royal at the Royal"

4
17/10/2016

We returned to the Royal having rated the hotel 5* previously two years ago. The location, car parking facilities, helpfulness of staff and facilities were first class and as good as before. But, a significant number of unwelcome small failures have arisen: staff smoking in uniform outside (not main) doors; cool coffee served in a broken tea pot; not sufficient cleaning etc. We reported some incidents to a manager and offered to speak to the General Manager of the hotel on departure, but the offer was not taken up. We now have a dilemma, will the hotel regain their high standards which would make a return stay an even more pleasant experience or will standards fall further making a return stay a disappointment? Finally, let me repeat, we enjoyed our time in Jersey and at the Royal Hotel, and our stay was very good value for money. I'd like to see a commitment from the Royal to take my comments positively and return to an "excellent" status from a "good" status.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Eatery_Reviewer Thank you for your return custom Eatery_Reviewer and for your comments that the helpfulness of our staff and facilities were first class. It is wonderful that you feel that you enjoyed your time at the Royal and your time in Jersey. We have looked at the timing of your previous stay and our same hotel General Manager and Head Chef have been in post over both your stays. Operationally, we have reviewed the areas that you mention as we do always seek to maintain high standards. Equally, your feedback is valued. Thankfully, we have enjoyed many positive reviews of our AA three star Royal on this forum and your comments can only help us to keep standards high. Having spoken with our General Manager, he did genuinely intend to speak with you but unfortunately missed the opportunity to meet with you. Thank you once again for your feedback. We hope that we may have the pleasure to welcome you back again sometime soon.

"Honeymoon Special"

To be honest, i didn't stay at this hotel, I booked it for my Son and his new wife for their Honeymoon, however I called to book it as a surprise for them, whilst I was at their reception in the Best Western in Hexham also very good,I called the Royal and asked them if they could look after My Son and his wife as it was their honeymoon, and they were on a budget. My Son called me when he arrived to a bottle of champagne in the room, and from the moment they arrived they were treated like royalty, they mentioned Lawrence as a stand out friendly guy, but all the staff were fantastic. I had booked them full board and they both agreed the food was of Michelin star standard. They arrived home promising to go back to Jersey which they loved, and the only place to stay is the Royal. Thank you so much The Royal and all the staff, and given my Sons report I will be there soon to thank you personally

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your kind words in respect of the special stay of your family members. Congratulations once again. We are delighted that your son and daughter in law enjoyed our catering and felt they were treated like royalty. Our staff are delighted with your comments we wish you all well for the future.

"Week long stay"

On a business trip stayed for 4 nights, ate in the lounge bar which provided excellent service and attention in a friendly but professional manner, quick service and very tasty food. My room was very well laid out, all had been thought of, even the complimentary iron and board in the closet was a nice touch. The room television has a good selection of channels when not in the bar or having to work. Very roomy with plenty of available sockets for chargers etc. All the staff were very courteous and took a genuine interest in my satisfaction with the hotel. I can only congratulate The Royal Best Western in St Helier. I look forward to a return visit in the future.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your wonderful feedback on your business stay at our town centre BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel. The Royal is an historic hotel new the new Millennium Town Park. We are delighted that we met your needs so well on a longer duration stay and our staff are very pleased with your comments. Our new Cisco load balanced WiFi is a great facility and is fee of charge with BEST WESTERN. Thank you once again.

"Lovely hotel in St Helier"

11/10/2016

We spent 4 nights in the Royal at the end of September. We had a twin and a double with interconnecting doors which was ideal for us (Mum and 2 Sisters). We overlooked the terrace so the rooms were nice and quiet. The bedrooms are traditional, but lovely and clean and served the purpose. I understand that some of the rooms have been upgraded, but unfortunately none had the interconnecting facility that we required. It wasn't a problem though as the rooms were fine for us. The hotel has a small car park which is a bonus and is only 15 minute easy walk to St Helier centre. One of the highlights of the hotel is its restaurant. It is beautifully decorated and tables laid with white cloths and napkins. The menu varied every evening with a good choice. The food was superb, definitely deserving of its AA rosette award. The staff throughout the hotel are professional and friendly and are an asset to the hotel. We certainly hope to visit again, and would highly recommend the hotel to friends and family. Thank you for a lovely stay.

ManagerJersey, Owner at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your lovely comments. They are appreciated by our team and it is wonderful that you enjoyed your stay. We are an historic hotel only minutes from the high street and this route then takes you on towards the harbour area which is fifteen minutes away on foot. Our AA Rosette has been held for many years and we thank you once again for your positive comments on our professionalism and courtesy. Your custom is appreciated.

Went for the Tennerfest and this hotel was well situated. Room was very comfortable, and the bathroom had been refurbished. Plenty of storage, comfortable bed. Breakfast was good as well. Only ate in the bar once but very good crab sandwich and ham baguette.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
We so pleased that you have enjoyed your stay and appreciate your comments on our new Cisco WiFi system which is latest generation and is in place throughout the hotel. Our kitchen team are particularly pleased with your feedback. Thank you.

Nice looking, good location and well run hotel. The staff are excellent and look after everything. Can't really fault anything other than perhaps cleaners being a bit noisy about 7:30 am, which is not really a problem.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
We are delighted by your comments. Thank you. It is wonderful that you have such positive comments in respect of our hotel and your feedback is noted. Our location in the centre of St. Helier is very popular, near the Millennium Town Park and the high street. Thank you once again.

"3 Nights that were enjoyable"

08/10/2016

This hotel is older and has some unusual aspects but once accustomed to the layout it was enjoyable. The restaurants are top notch and dinner was great here. I stayed in a suite that was large and had a balcony with lots of fresh air. Bedding was good and comfortable very quiet at night.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your kind comments. We are an historic hotel and this appeals to a great many of our guests. Our suites are indeed large and we are so pleased that you enjoyed this accommodation. Thank you once again.

"Tired, but a bit of character"

04/10/2016

Spent a few days here end of September. Tricky one way systems in St Helier made it hard for us to locate, but we managed. Sadly, arriving late meant all car parking spaces were taken. Had to park in sister hotel ten minutes walk away. Room adequate, serviced everyday. Clearly this hotel has been around since the last century and in parts that shows. However staff great and food excellent, we ate here on three occasions and we were never dissapointed. Breakfast again plentiful, a help yourself full cooked. One complaint, I wish they had cooked the sausages a little more. All in all a good stay and I would return

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback. We were actually constructed earlier than you state, having been established from the 1840's and do have a great depth of history and character which is appreciated by so many of our guests. It is wonderful that you could see this character and found our staff and food excellent. We are proud to hold an AA Rosette for our catering. We have much modern infrastructure at our historic hotel such as new Cisco WiFi throughout and this is appreciated by many of our business and leisure customers. Thank you for reporting that you would return. This is appreciated and you would be most welcome.

"Good location/ Great sun terrace"

29/09/2016

Very friendly, helpful staff in a clean hotel that needs a face lift. We stayed 5 nights in room 138, a family room, there was only the two of us, so it was a big bright room, with nice comfortable beds. It was a hike from reception to the room until we discovered the shortcut through the large sun terrace which proved a great place to relax, enjoy the sun, late afternoon before getting ready for dinner. We used the bar every night, we found it very welcoming and used by a number of friendly locals who were more than happy to answer questions about the area. The bar staff were also very friendly but normally too busy to engage in any conversation. The restaurant was very busy however we didn't use it preferring to try the numerous restaurants in the every close proximity. Fortunately it had car parking because that is a massive premium, the car park isn't big and I would be concerned in peak season as to where you could park. If hiring a car I would definitely check first with the hotel re parking.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your lovely thoughtful review and great feedback. We are an historic branded hotel and the Royal does see continuous investment. We are so pleased that you loved our location too and the size of our internal sun terrace areas. Our Royal is well located in the town centre and occupies a substantial site due, not least, to it having been established in the 1840's when pressure on land was much less intense. We were so pleased that you were able to relax and found us to be friendly, with helpful staff, as well as being clean. All attributes which are important to travellers using our facilities and services. Thank you once again. Your custom is valued and appreciated.

This is a superb hotel. We would definitely recommend and return. The upgrade to a four poster room was very much appreciated. Lovely staff, traditional bar, food excellent and location very good, only a 10 minute walk to Liberation square, Bus tours pick up from hotel and shopping is within 5 minutes. Sun terrace to relax in the Jersey sunshine. I booked because of the half board deal as a birthday treat for boyfriend, was a bit concerned, hopped he would like it, he did, very much! Can't wait to return to Jersey and stay at Best Western Royal, with the boyfriend of course.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
We are so pleased that you found us to be a superb hotel. Thank you for this valued feedback. We are a branded three star AA hotel in the town centre close to the shops with old world charm as opposed to a new purpose built building. You clearly loved the entirety of what this embodies as an experience for our valued guests. Thank you for you kind custom and feedback. You would indeed be most welcome on any return visit.

25/09/2016

Staff helpful & friendly, room and bed clean and comfortable, adequate modern decor for an old hotel. Toilet and shower over bath clean and tidy. Car Park small get in first and stay there as parking an issue elsewhere. Evening meal in hotel restaurant very good, but hotel Bar 27 stuffy and bar meals not so good! Hotel Buffet breakfast good, (2 only gripes get a deal with a bakery for better bread to make toast instead of Packet Sunblest from Costcutters across the road and duty manager tell male staff member not to drink apple juice from jug when filling up in kitchen next to buffet area, he was seen and put us off having fruit juice with breakfast!..

"Characterful Hotel"

25/09/2016

We stayed five night at this hotel during a recent holiday. The hotel is a little tired in places but is clean with exceptionally helpful staff. The room we stayed in 209 was not the largest of rooms but serviceable with a good WiFi connection. The room partially overlooked the roof terrace so no problems with road noise. The shower in the bathroom was a disappointment as the water pressure was quite low unless you wanted a cold shower. We had one evening meal in the restaurant, were the menu is changed every evening, the service was very good and the food was of a good standard. We had breakfast every morning which was a mixture of full english and continental. Service again was excellent with all staff being very helpful and offered extra help to some of the older guests. The one issue with breakfast was the queue to be seated, at one stage there was six couple waiting to be seated, I saw this as a staffing issue rather than the staff who worked tirelessly, with a willing smile. We frequented the the public bar most nights were we were looked after by Catalin who I believe was the bar supervisor and his helpful assistant Corina. We ate in the bar one evening which was typical pub fayre but all prepared in the same kitchen as the restaurant food so of a good standard. The staff made our stay very enjoyable with a huge thank you to all

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your kind comments and feedback. Your comments are appreciated and our staff members are always delighted to receive a special mention. This is most thoughtful on your part. The individual comments you make are noted and we are pleased that you found us overall to be a characterful hotel and enjoyed your stay. Thank you once again.

The four of us stayed here when we visited Jersey. The staff were very helpful and attentive. The room we had was very nice, very clean and well equipped, we even had a four poster bed, although this did make the room seem a bit dark, but still very nice. Breakfast in the Seasons restaurant was great with a good choice of food and efficient waiters and waitresses. Bar 27 was really good. The staff here were superb, helpful and polite and good to talk to. We ate in here several evenings and the food choice and quality were great. Would definitely stay here again. Thanks to all the staff for making our holiday so enjoyable. The only downside was that our room was on the front of the hotel and the noise from the road was quite intrusive.

An extremely well run hotel, with excellent, efficient and friendly staff. The table d'hote dinner was of exceptional quality, with plenty of choice. Booking through the efficient CI travel agency on Jersey produced a very good rate at the hotel. Good to see an hotel using internal (corridor) fire doors correctly - for a welcome change to normal! Reliable, fast wifi in our bedroom on the second floor. Recommended.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
We are pleased that you would recommend the Royal. Thank you. Our WiFi is the latest generation Cisco WiFi solution and is a free service throughout the hotel. This new WiFi system infrastructure was installed only a few months ago and has shown itself to be robust under high load demands in our busy high summer season. Your comments on the standards kept by our kitchen team are very much appreciated. We also have been awarded the top level five star 'Eat safe' award by our local health authority. Standards are important to us. Thank you once again.

We stayed at the Best Western for 2 nights 10th & 11 Sept when visiting the island to watch our team play rugby against Jersey. The hotel is clean, full of character and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We liked the bar which has a very nice ambience and the food served was excellent. The male singer on Sunday evening was very good and a pleasant surprise. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this hotel. We will stay here again the next time we visit Jersey.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your comments on your visit to watch your team play rugby against Jersey. We have accommodated many players and supporters in recent times. We are a characterful hotel and this is popular with so many of our valued guests. Thank you once again and we are delighted that you will stay with us again the next time you visit Jersey. 14/09/2016

The Best Western Hotel is a lovely hotel close to the center of town. The staff at the Best Western are extremely helpful and polite, the hotel is a little dated in some areas and the rooms are not the biggest but, it is clean and serviceable. Traffic noise can be a problem if you face the road and are unaware that the maid service have left windows open (you do not always notice due to secondary glazing) will not make that mistake again. Full breakfast very good but, I would have been disappointed if I preferred a Continental breakfast as choice was quite limited. I would recommend the Best Western Hotel as I had a lovely holiday in Jersey and hope to revisit some day

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Our staff are delighted with your kind and thoughtful comments. Thank you. The Royal is a town centre hotel with a great depth of history and we are so pleased that you would recommend us and most importantly that you had a lovely holiday. "Jersey's best kept secret!!"

13/09/2016

This hotel is just perfect for visiting Jersey. It is far enough of the town centre to be peaceful but close enough to be convenient. The staff are exceptional and the food is excellent. The breakfasts are wonderful and plenty of it. The Table d'hote food is very good indeed and a very good selection. Bar meals are great value and entry of choice. The rooms are comfortable and clean and are vacuumed every day. The free WiFi is great and signal strength in good all around the hotel. Due to lots of stairs and just one lift, it would not be ideal for guests with limited mobility.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Your feedback is very much appreciated in all respects but is especially valued by our team of staff as you found them to be exceptional and our food to be excellent. Thank you. As arguably Jersey's oldest hotel, established in the early 1840's, we benefit from a large town centre site with parking and great public areas. We are an historic hotel with much history. Our newly installed latest generation 'Cisco' load balanced WiFi solution has been a major infrastructure investment for us and we are delighted with the results for our guests in terms of connectivity throughout the hotel. The Royal is also now on the latest fibre connection with our telecoms provider as opposed to copper wire. We provide this as a completely free service for guests. Thank you for pointing out that you feel we are "Jersey's best kept secret" and this compliment is very much valued and appreciated. We always seek to provide high standards at the Royal.

10/09/2016

All staff very polite and helpful. Only one lift, used by staff and guests alike. Lift only goes to some floors though, other floors a few steps up or down. Food very good. Continental breakfast choices poor though, only ham, packet cheese and croissants. Room adequate. Cleaned thoroughly daily. A bit warm at night as we had to close the window due to road and noise from pizza takeaway over road. Area around hotel a bit run down. Only 15 minute walk to seafront.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your kind review of our hotel. We were established in the 1840's and have much depth of history. It is wonderful that you found our food to be very good. We are proud to hold and AA Rosette for our catering. Thank you once again.

Lovely hotel, helpful friendly staff, large comfortable rooms. Good bar food plenty of choice. Also good formal restaurant once again plenty of choice, all food cooked to high standard. Breakfasts self service but could order other options if required I.e. smoked Braddock, placed eggs etc. About 10minutes stroll into town. Go to bus station on harbour, can get buses to all sights on the island. Will stay again when we return next year.

This is a lovely hotel and should have more stars. The location is excellent for anyone who loves to shop or who travels on public transport. Our only complaint was the awful one-way system which is a nightmare for anyone driving! Otherwise we had a super stay. The hotel is very pleasant, our room was a bit too warm but there was a fan. Breakfast was adequate, we ate in the bar on one evening and the food was hot and tasty with a good menu choice.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
We place great emphasis on our BEST WESTERN branding as opposed to strictly our star rating at the Royal. Your comments are very much appreciated as is your custom and it is of course wonderful that you feel we should be rated more highly. The fact that you feel that you had a super stay at our hotel is great feedback. Our website gives directions to the hotel and of course the sat nav solution is always a help in travel but we are centrally located in St. Helier. Thank you once again.

"5 day break on a lovely island - shame about the hotel"

3
07/09/2016

The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of the town and seafront, but is on a very busy and noisy road, and as the rooms had single glazed windows, you need to ensure your room is not overlooking the road. As the weather during our stay was glorious, this made the room rather uncomfortable each evening, as there is no air conditioning, nor a fridge to keep drinks cold. The decor and hotel fittings are dated and in dire need of updating, but the staff were young, friendly and helpful. The breakfast was of a reasonable standard, as were the evening bar meals, but 'nothing to write home about'.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you found us conveniently located. We are a town hotel and if road noise is an issue for prospective guests then we would agree that it is best when booking to request a bedroom away from any roadway. We occupy a very large site for a town centre hotel and our buildings wrap around a large first floor hotel terrace. The terrace is very private and a great amount of our guest accommodation is within this area. A good selection of bedrooms is shown on our website. We are arguably the oldest hotel in Jersey and as such operate by refurbishing a selection of bedrooms each year. Your comments will very much be borne in mind as we enter our quieter winter period and decide which bedrooms we will update this year. That said, we are a historic building and do not intend to loose this historic appeal as this is popular with a great many of our guests. Thank you once again.

We have just returned from 1 week's stay at the Royal, it is approx. 30yrs since our last visit to St. Helier and must say cannot remember much about the place. We found the Royal extremely comfortable and complimented the Manager on the friendliness of the staff, friendly without being obtrusive. It was also good to see that the Manager wasn't afraid to help out when the restaurant was extra busy - a good example. The menu's were varied and extremely enjoyable and the bar area had a real pub atmosphere. Well done the Royal.

"Best hotel in the world."

31/08/2016

This is my fourth time staying at this hotel. I cannot fault it. It is the best hotel I've ever stayed in. The staff are always extremely polite, respectful, friendly, forthcoming, helpful and knowledgeable. Nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are excellent. Every room I've stayed in has an iron and ironing board. This is so handy. It's not many hotels, that would have these things in each individual room. My rooms have always had an upright fan too. This is excellent and helped me to sleep during the heatwave that Jersey recently had. The en-suite is lovely. There's always piping hot water. There are always plenty of towels. The complimentary shampoo, shower gel and soap are lovely and are always replaced when you're running low. There's always a hospitality tray filled with a wide selection of hot drinks. The hot chocolate is really creamy and there's always decaf versions of tea and coffee too. You get biscuits everyday, which are an added bonus. It's the little touches that are in your room too that make it extra special, such as a handy box of tissues, which is refilled daily. Everywhere is kept spotlessly clean. Standards are high. And now to breakfast. It's amazing. It's a buffet breakfast and you can eat as much as you like. There's an abundance of fresh fruit - a big bowl of fresh fruit salad consisting of sliced gala melon, watermelon, apple, oranges, pineapples and grapes. There is a bowl of whole fruit too, containing green and red apples, pears, and plums. The fruit is always really fresh. You can have prunes too. It's a very good choice. There are cold cuts of meat and various cheeses There are fresh croissants and mini pain-au-chocolats, and sliced French bread. A wide choice of cereals are available, even gluten free. You can order porridge too, which is made fresh and comes with honey, brown sugar and fresh cream to add. It's all these little extras that are included at the Royal and they make a big difference. Hot breakfast items are always being topped up so they're always fresh and hot. The scrambled egg is so light and fluffy I'm thinking of asking them for the recipe. You can order fried or poached eggs too. The poached eggs are done to perfection. Other hot items on the buffet are, sausages, grilled tomatoes, cooked mushrooms, baked beans and lovely crispy hash browns. Your plates are kept hot too. All of the waiters go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your breakfast. Kippers can be ordered. Fresh orange and apple juice are readily available. Pots of tea and coffee are brought to your table and you can have earl grey, china green tea, red berry tisane or even decaf tea. You can have hot milk if you're having a pot of coffee. Hot chocolate is on offer too. Little jams, honey and marmite are there for the taking, to enjoy on your toast. As you can see, breakfast here is great. Furthermore, it is spread over a wide time slot, so you can arrive at 7.30am and be early or have that extra bit of sleep-in and come to breakfast at 9.30am. Make sure to make the most of the huge choice for the Royal's extremely generous cornucopia of food. It's the best part of your time at this hotel. There's a computer on site for guests to use for free. It's another handy little touch. On the first floor there is a lovely large and airy conservatory for guests and an attached roof sun terrace with plenty of chairs, tables and sun-loungers. It can be a real suntrap in the Summer months.. It's adorned with colourful container plants too. Again, there's that extra little touch that the Royal always gives. There is a lift and if needed, the hotel staff will assist you with your luggage. Once you've checked out, you can leave you luggage behind reception for collection later. You can have peace of mind that the staff will keep it safe. There is a bar for residents and non-residents. It's well stocked. It's airconditioned. Local residents frequent this bar so that's definitely a sign of it's positive and happy atmosphere. Entertainment is provided twice weekly. Food is served until 9.00pm with good vegetarian choices and gorgeous desserts. It's very reasonably priced. I always look forward to my return. I've had lots of happy times here and many to come in the future I hope. Since I first discovered this gem of a hotel, I will always stay here on my trips to Jersey. This hotel certainly merits it's 3 stars and it's excellence award. I say very well done to this hotel. You go the extra mile. The Best in Best Western Royal really does mean the "best" in every way.

Stayed here for a week, first day was my wife's birthday but did not mention this. On return from being out for a walk, complimentary bottle of Champagne. Rest of stay we were well looked after, great food, really spacious room with own balcony and recliners, well appointed and clean. All staff very helpful and cheerful. Only downside was the the lack of air conditioning in the room but the supplied fan was really useful. Would definitely stay again.

All staff very friendly and helpful from reception right through to chambermaids and restaurant. Hotel is situated very centrally so ideal for travelling around the island. Bedrooms are not "boutique" style. They are dated but very clean.

"Great Place to stay in Jersey"

We stayed at The Royal Best Western fro 20th to 27th August. Everything about the Hotel was good which enhanced our vacation. All Staff were friendly and helpful and the service and food quality in the restaurant was impeccable. We commend for special attention. On the reception " LAURENTIU" in The Restaurant Carmen and also the Maitre De.

"Not the best Best Western"

28/08/2016

Stayed in this hotel for three nights on a trip to Jersey to celebrate our wedding anniversary and attend the Warriors v Jersey pre-season rugby match. I am afraid this is the worst Best Western hotel that we have stayed in. The hotel is situated in a more business area of the town but it was only a short walk to the centre and bus station. It is an old building so has character, uneven and creaky floors, sloping doors etc. There is a lift but not all rooms are accessible without using stairs as well. So ask before declining help with your luggage. The hotel is situated on a crossroads and the traffic noise was quite bad and continued into the early hours of the morning. There was a busy pizza takeaway just opposite. Unfortunately our room had sash windows and no double-glazing. The hotel seems to specialise in large parties of foreign visitors. Our room was a family room that had a double and two single beds so was quite well sized. The mattress on the double bed was past its best and the bed was very close to the window on one side. Sheets and a blanket on the bed not a duvet. Good range of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits. The alarm clock gained half an hour overnight so was not reliable. The light fittings over the bed were very dusty. There was a funny smell in the room so we had to open the window during the day. The bathroom was quite large and clean and had a bath with shower over. Basic range of toiletries - just soap, shampoo and shower gel. Breakfast was good with a large buffet selection including gluten free. Being gluten free I had emailed the hotel to ask about the selection of food and was told that dinner would not be a problem if I could let them know my food choices. After breakfast on the day of our anniversary we booked for dinner after having checked the menu. I did try to give the restaurant manager my food choices to check that they were gluten free but he said that at dinner would be fine. When we arrived for dinner a table had not been booked for us and we were seated, by ourselves, in an annex off the main dining room. When I explained I needed gluten free the waitress went away and came back with a list of what I could have. This did not include the items that I wanted. A further trip to the kitchen confirmed I could have these choices. A piece of gluten free toast was provided. The starter and main course were fine. Dessert was a problem as all the items on offer had gluten or large amounts of cream. In the end I was given a “trifle” – jelly with fresh fruit on top. Unfortunately when I got to the jelly it had sponge in it. When the waitress asked if I had finished I explained that I thought there was sponge in the jelly and she rushed off to the kitchen and came back apologizing. I was still charged for all three courses. Although we had all of our anniversary cards up in the room there was no recognition of this by the hotel. The first time this has ever happened. I am afraid we will not consider staying at this hotel again.

Thank you for providing us with your feedback following your recent stay. We are sorry to learn that you were not satisfied with certain aspects of the hotel facilities. Your various comments have been noted and they will be discussed at our next management meeting for the benefit of future guests. The Best Western Royal Hotel is indeed a long established town hotel which, due to its location, can at times be subjected to external noise which is beyond our control. This is generally not considered to be a problem by the majority of clients and a quiet room can be requested. We apologise if all aspects of your dining experience were not as they should have been. I would have been happy to meet with you whilst you were at the hotel to discuss any concerns or complaints you may have had. Your review has made reference to many positive aspects of the hotel facilities and on reflection and in light of the above comments we would hope that you may reconsider returning to us at some time in the future.

A lovely hotel, (although the rooms could do with a refresh), with excellent, friendly staff in all areas, from front desk to chambermaids. The food is very good, the breakfasts were especially nice. There is limited parking, but we were there at a fairly peak time and did not have any difficulty. There are overflow spaces available.

"Great getaway"

25/08/2016

We booked a last minute holiday through Island Getaways to visit Jersey in the Channel Islands, and was not disappointed in the slightest. The Royal Hotel was absolutely spot on with its wonderful service and super meals, with a great choice of menu and daily specials. We were treated as if we had been regular visitors, even though it was our first ever visit. The whole holiday was great value and cannot recommend the wonderful company (Island Getaways) enough for everything that was included. This was the best value holiday we have ever had!

"A GREAT PLACE TO STAY"

24/08/2016

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay. The staff were fantastic and the food was well presented and tasty, the room was clean and comfortable. If you are sensitive to noise ask for a room that is away from the road. There is a sister hotel with swimming pool and spa a short walk away that you can have the use of during your break. We wouldn't hesitate to return to this hotel and it's friendly staff

"Great stay and great welcome"

Nothing too much trouble here. They asked to carry bags to the room, took us to our table at breakfast and advised us on what was around the area. They even phoned the cab company to ensure they would turn up (as they didn't at the airport). Large clean bedroom. polite staff and always smiling. Good food with large breakfast buffet. Hot items on breakfast hjeld in a large eating area. Germans were rude but the staff managed them very well and with a smile at all times. We were lucky here as some other stories of other hotels were not so good. Would go back as it is in a great position and in a good town.

"Great Hotel!"

22/08/2016

We have just returned from a week in Jersey, enjoying the Battle of the Flowers! The Best Western Royal Hotel could not be faulted! All the staff were extremely polite, so very helpful and friendly - nothing was too much trouble! The rooms were spotlessly clean and the breakfast was delicious and actually kept us full for the whole day! I would certainly recommend this hotel and would love to return to it! I suppose, if I had to find any fault, it was a 10-minute walk into the main town - nothing to do with the quality of the hotel, just the location!

"Lovely "

20/08/2016

Stayed in the Royal which is situated in what I believe to be the best part of StHelier. Not too central so as to make a disturbance but within walking distance to all main shops and facilities. Staff were very pleasant and even a trainee receptionist (Kiera, I believe?) was very attentive! We were shocked when she told us she had only been in the hotel a week. Other staff were generally very helpful. Will be back again!!!

"Lovely Hotel whilst working"

18/08/2016

What a lovely hotel to stay in. I regularly stay here whilst working in St Helier and enjoy staying here as the staff are extremely friendly, professional & courteous. This hotel is centrally located and within walking distance of all the restaurants / bars. I cannot comment on the proximity to all the attractions, as I visit for work & not pleasure. If booking, try & get a room on the first floor with access to the roof terrace - LOVELY!!

ManagerJersey, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Your positive and encouraging review is very much appreciated by all the staff here at the Best Western Royal Hotel. As a regular client we believe consistency in standards is important and it is very pleasing to note that you find the staff extremely friendly, professional and courteous.

Stayed for 1 week mid August. Room very clean and bed really comfortable. Food and service excellent. Very friendly helpful staff. 17/08/2016

The only downside of my hotel was that it didn't have air con - I was there on the hottest day of the year. The hotel was located well - a 10 min walk to the town centre. Food in the bar was very nice and very reasonably priced. Breakfast was good and there was a good selection of food. Staff were very helpful as my room was booked under another engineers name and last minute plans changed this - no real issues doing this. Overall a lovely hotel.

"Battle of the Flowers Visit in Jersey"

5
14/08/2016

A lovely hotel and the rooms very spacious. The staff loved after our every needs; from different parts of the EU. Trips were organised through the Reception staff with a coach firm, Tantivy, taking us to various locations like the Tunnels Tour, Hamtonne Historic Village and the best of all, the Moonlight Float Procession for the Battle of Flowers. That was superb with fireworks at the end. The roads have very little rubbish with the pavements and roads spotless. Traffic is surprisingly light around the small twisting roads on the Island. I'm looking to visit the Island agin next year for the Battle of Flowers; not well publicised.

ManagerJersey, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your very kind review of our Hotel and the Island of Jersey. The Battle of the Flowers is indeed a very special occasion and we are delighted you enjoyed the Moonlight Float procession in particular. We do hope that we may have the pleasure of welcoming back to Jersey again next year.

13/08/2016

we only stayed for one night room seemed a little dated but was clean. There was no aircon in the room. We only checked in late so really didnt see much as we checked out early as well. Car oark only had space for about 10 or so cars in the courtyard

"Very helpful staff"

11/08/2016

We stayed when our flight got cancelled. They were very accommodating and all in all it was a good stay. The rooms are tired though and could have done with a revamp. The cleaners knocking on the door from the crack of dawn probably didn't help either

ManagerJersey, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback and we are pleased to note that all in all you had a good stay. Although a large proportion of our accommodation has been refurbished and redecorated in recent years your comments in relation to your allocated room are noted. 10/08/2016

This is a nice Hotel with friendly and helpful staff in the reception area especially. The bar staff are not quite as welcoming. Our room was newly refurbished but a bit small and the bathroom very small, we had to come out to get dry properly.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your review and feedback. We are pleased that you feel we are a nice hotel in which to stay and our reception team are delighted with your kind comments in respect of being friendly and helpful. We are delighted that you liked our newly refurbished accommodation allocated. In respect of bathrooms generally at the hotel, Jersey does have minimum sizes for bathroom / shower rooms by law and the Royal in the great majority of cases is well ahead of any minimum size stipulated. Thank you for your feedback. Our team within our main bar has altered since your visit and your comments are noted and appreciated. Thank you once again.

"Absolutely fantastic, although a bit of a maze!"

08/08/2016

Myself and my family stayed at the Best Western for a week at the beginning of August, and I can safely say it was a really enjoyable stay. When you first get to the hotel, it seems like an absolute maze, with so many stairs and corridors and twists and turns, but once you have found your bearings it is easy. The staff are incredibly welcoming and will do anything they can to help you. The food is the best food I have ever tasted - everything that can be is made from Jersey cream, the seafood was pretty much all local and fresh, and the meals were so well presented. At Breakfast you have the option of Continental (fruit, pastries such as croissants, yoghurt), Cereal, or Full English with extras on the menu, and a choice of tea, coffee, hot chocolate or juice. This is all buffet style. Lunch is generally served at the bar, generous portions and very nice food. Dinner is booked for time slot at Breakfast, and is a 3 course plus coffee/cheese plate if you wish, you have a choice of 4/5 things as a starter, 4/5 things as a main and around 3 for dessert (although I can't remember exactly so this may be wrong!) and each is as lovely as the other. Vegetarians are catered for, and if you have a food allergy then you can let staff know and I am sure they are more than happy to help (although I do not have this issue). Waiting staff were very attentive, always clearing plates as soon as they needed it, offering more water and drinks, asking if everything is okay, etc. Serving was generally very quick, very speedy at taking orders etc, and staff were all very welcoming and polite, and were more than happy to talk! The room was lovely. We stayed in a suite (bedroom and living area, room 225) and the bed was so, so comfortable, with a dressing table and alarm clock, and a bible next to the bed. A dressing table with a mirror and a set of drawers, with a stool underneath to sit on, and then a set of drawers with a TV on in the room too. In the living area there was a TV, 2 sofas, a coffee table, and a table with the phone etc on. There was also a stand with tea, coffee, hot chocolate, mugs, kettles. The bathroom was very clean with towels, dressing gowns and toilet, bath/shower, mini toiletries provided. Housekeeping cleaned/tidied every day and catered to needs well. Hotel was around 15-20 minutes walk to town centre and Liberation Square, and was just up the hill from the shops, with a Lloyds Pharmacy right opposite. Steps up to hotel and lots of stairs inside, although there was access to a lift. Access to Monte Rey spa and pool given to guests. The thing I was most impressed with personally was the food and welcoming staff. Amenities very close access, although location could be noisy with seagulls and people going out in the evenings, but generally was very quiet.

Room was very tired and not clean. Couldn't have a bath as tap was broken - reported this to reception on first day, but no one came to fix, weren't given a reason why, mentioned to cleaner also who confirmed they knew about it but didn't expect it to be fixed anytime soon. Staff in dining room at breakfast and dinner were rude and unhelpful. Waited 45 minutes for coffee with breakfast, staff just ignored you. If you appreciate good service with friendly staff, go elsewhere!

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Having researched the matter in detail we feel that this review is unrelated to our hotel. We keep a written log of all matters reported to reception and no bath tap has been broken or reported broken, repaired or replaced. We have researched back many months at the hotel. The service comments we do not believe are reflective of our restaurant staff who always seek to be attentive in our AA Rosette restaurant. We hold a hard won Gold standard Investor in People award and this standard is only awarded for good communication and we cannot see how a guest could possibly have been ignored for 45 minutes.

"Not an enjoyable experience"

07/08/2016

Stayed for 4 nights on business and really not happy. I don't want to labour the point but I am a diamond level BW member and nobody even mentioned it and as I boiiked through the BW site I expected a good room so I booked an executive room and I do not believe I was given one, I was in room 199, the room had no usable drawers for clothes, a desk area that was useless due to the hospitality tray, a bedroom light that didn't work and a bathroom light that didn't work either. The breakfast wasn't a good standard with what tasted like powdered egg as the scrambled option and the wait for fried or poached eggs was quite simply unacceptable, so much so on 2 ocassions I just gave up. The reception staff were nice and friendly but the barman didn't give a toss about how long the wait was to simply order. The bar is OK but was used by many guys in dirty site clothes. The price I paid for the standard I received was quite unrealistic, I stayed in a Crowne plaza at Heathrow the week before and it was £50 less for a much much better standard of accommodation Good points is it is reasonably close to the town centre, maybe a 10 minute walk and it does have good WiFi and a decent large consrvatory and terrace where the WiFi worked well.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your further tripadvisor comments following your earlier tripadvisor review posted two days ago. We are sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay as a valued Diamond level BW member. A fruit basket is placed in bedrooms for your level of membership in recognition along with bottled water. We can find no record of your complaints being made to us whilst you were at the hotel. Firstly, we always seek to be reasonable and respectful with guests. Clearly, it does no harm for us to review how we operate from time to time as a result of guest feedback. All BEST WESTERN hotels are individually owned in the UK and as an AA three star hotel we do sit very comfortably within our grade and have been recently inspected, overnight, with a high score. Our reviews for the Royal are mostly very good on this site and in our opinion we meet our market, for both business and leisure guests, quite well in general. Your particular comments are valued. Our bedrooms do differ as we are not a modern purpose built hotel. We have visited the particular individual bedroom occupied and it is generally pleasant and in very good condition in our opinion with a quality fit-out. We are happy to review the areas mentioned, including drawer space. This bedroom has been with the same configuration for some years. Maintenance is good at the Royal and we have a team of in-house engineers who attend to matters quickly once notified by guests or staff. We are in peak tourist season presently and this is the peak demand period for our hotel. Your comment in respect of dirty site clothing being worn in our bar by customers is very much noted. We have owned and operated the hotel for ten years and we have not found this to be a problem and we will now brief our staff to be vigilant on this matter. Again, it does no harm to review the matter as we too wish for standards to be high, within our grade. We confirm that we do use a pasteurised egg product to ensure guest food safety with scrambled egg at breakfast. This is not a powdered egg product as suggested but is a quality refrigerated liquid product. We have used this style of product for a long period of time without issue. It is a more expensive option for us as caterers but guest safety is paramount and we hold a top five star award for our food safety as issued by the local Environmental Health Department. We always seek to use quality ingredients. We are pleased that you found our WiFi to be good. We have invested into a new Cisco load balanced WiFi solution throughout the hotel in recent months and the feedback has been excellent from guests. It is the latest generation solution and our business and leisure guests seem delighted in general. Finally, we are always happy to respond to guest comments. It is useful if we can discuss matters at the hotel in case we are able to make a guest's stay more comfortable at the time. We are a local family owned business whilst being a member of BEST WESTERN and have invested heavily into the Royal to ensure standards are being constantly improved. We hope that you may consider staying with us again in the future. You would be most welcome.

06/08/2016

Stayed here for five nights August 2016 during which time we were celebrating my partners 50th birthday. Upon returning from a lovely day out we discovered complimentary champagne on ice in our room. What a wonderful, thoughtful surprise! Our room itself was well equipped but small. It was a little noisy from the traffic outside but not enough to complain about. The room would benefit from air conditioning as it was hot and stuffy but we were supplied with an oscillating fan to use as an alternative. Maid service was excellent, room cleaned and towels changed every day. We stayed on a half board basis. Breakfast was tasty and hot and the service was excellent. Evening meal was outstanding. The quality of the food and variation of menu was excellent. That together with the professional and friendly staff would put most 5* star hotels to shame! This hotel is in a good location, around a ten minute walk into town. To sum up we would thoroughly recommend this hotel. Thank you to each and every one of the staff for making our stay so special. We hope to see you again soon.

"Good rooms and friendly service"

05/08/2016

Great service and pretty decent rooms. Only comment would be about our mattress...they are quite soft vs many other hotels and makes for a bit more of a restless night's sleep. Parking also available but limited in space. Otherwise a solid 4 stars!

"Don't stay here"

05/08/2016

Stayed for 4 nights on business, the room was poor with no workspace and no usable drawers. there were broken light fittings and the whole room was dull. No A/C so too hot. Bar staff were slow and didn't care, no life about them and the service at breakfast was so slow on 2 mornings I had to leave before getting my eggs.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback. We do very much care about the service we offer and we are sorry that you did not enjoy our bar service. We are in peak holiday season at present and this does change the mix of guests at the Royal with fewer corporate guests in August and we are sorry if this slowed matters down for you at breakfast. We have been established since the 1840's and our bedrooms do vary. We would have been happy to look to move you within the hotel if you were in a bedroom that was not to your liking. We have an established maintenance team and we do seek to maintain the hotel in good order. There is a comprehensive buffet at breakfast with hot and cold items and certain order items from the kitchen, freshly cooked on demand. We are sorry that this did not work well for you. Finally, we have enjoyed a good series of reviews and it is most rare to see a lower score at the Royal. This is most unusual and we will continue to work hard to ensure that we meet guests needs in the future. Thank you for your custom and feedback.

"No shower and breakfast queue "

2
04/08/2016

- My room didn't have a shower cubicle, only a bath. - I had to queue for 15minutes to sit down for breakfast. I've never had to queue in a hotel for breakfast before. Staff gave no apologies, it seemed completely normally. + the room was nice and the bed was very good

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback. We have no bedrooms without shower arrangements at the Royal. If you are indicating that you wished for an individual cubicle for your shower, a great many bedrooms have such an arrangement and we would have been pleased to move you within the hotel accordingly. We are pleased that you thought your bedroom was nice along with a very good bed being provided. As we are in peak August holiday season we are a busy hotel and with far more leisure guests, in our mix of between corporate and leisure stays, than in other months. Guests may stay longer in our restaurant and arrive at the same time which means our restaurant is busy at breakfast. We apologise for any inconvenience on the occasion mentioned. This delay can often happen in other hotels and in common with other hotels we do seek to minimise any inconvenience and confirm that we do have a large restaurant for the size of our hotel property. May we apologise for any delay and your comment is appreciated. Thank you once again.

"Very poor start which had a happy ending"

03/08/2016

Day one we were advised that our room may have some noise from a function but that it would finish at 11pm, no problem but at 11.30 and some noise was very very loud shouting and music it was not on. Some vents (not sure maybe from kitchen) were extremely noising in room 138. Next night no hot and the next morning - spoke to manager and he showed us another room which looked okay on the screen and they would move our things for us during the day. When we got back and saw room 230 we were very disappointed it was very dull and dark and quite oppressive (the pictures shown were of that room but from its best angle), the only other room they could then provide was a standard double which was neither light or cheerful. Being fair to the manager he was very understanding and we had dinner that night in the hotel which I must say was fantastic, hats off to the chef for presentation and taste. The hotel is lovely and some rooms could do with being updated, staff were friendly and very helpful and I would go back again but maybe not room 138 or 230.

01/08/2016

Warm welcome upon arrival, our allocated room was in fact a suite which was a nice bonus i.e. a separate lounge, very large bathroom and bedroom. Plenty of wardrobe and storage space. All the usual facilities, in addition a TV in the bedroom as well as the lounge area. No aircon but a fan is provided. The evening meal in Seasons Restaurant was excellent,, we selected from the set menu and it was delicious. The location was within a couple of minutes walk from the town centre. Would definitely stay at The Royal again.

Had a balcony room which overlooked the terrace, it was nice to be able to sit outside in the sunshine. The room was very spacious and had a good large bathroom. Everything was lovely and clean and the bed was comfy. The dining room was nice and the breakfast choice was very good and very tasty. The bar was quite popular in the early evening for meals and we ate in there a couple of times and can highly recommend the food, it was nice and fresh, well presented, good portion sizes and reasonably priced. Every single member of staff we came into contact with throughout the hotel were lovely, they were helpful, polite very cheerful and have to say they were some of the nicest staff we have ever had the pleasure to come across in the hotels we have stayed in. We had a small complaint(if you could call it that)and it would have to be the tiny tv. It was too small for such a large room and it was in a bad position being tucked away in a corner. Other than that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hopefully in the not too distant future we will be back.

Stayed for three nights, and after getting lost trying to find the hotel, eventually got to it! Met with a friendly face at the front desk, who explained everything about the hotel - meal times/breakfast, wi-fi and parking etc. Parking lot was a little tight at times but lovely and secure! The rooms were not too big, but I'd say big enough. Lovely comfy beds, nice big bathroom too and the sun terrace was ideal. I'd think about adding a fan and hair dryer to the rooms but apart from that, nothing to complain about! Location was superb, ten minute walking into the centre or a short drive to the beaches! The evening meal was very nice, and the breakfast was probably the best I've had in a hotel. The staff on the front desk and the restaurant were superb. Even though I'd say the hotel was more catered for the 40's above age range, I'd recommend it to younger couples.

We feel too that we are superbly located near the centre of St. Helier, by the new Millennium Town park. We are so pleased that you found a great many aspects of the hotel to be to your liking. Our catering team are delighted with your kind comments as are our staff in general at the hotel. Thank you. Bedrooms vary in size as we are long established, since 1842, and our beds are from a leading brand manufacturer with a regular replacement programme. All bedrooms have hairdryers in a drawer. We have found, in common with many other hotels, that guests like the flexibility of a portable hairdryer as opposed to a fixed unit. We do try to be vigilant that these are present for guests. Likewise, many bedroom do have electric portable fans and we carry a stock of these items at our reception also. Finally, Thank you once again for your kind comments and custom. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back at a future date.

I went with a friend. Our room was pleasant and overlooked the sun deck which we enjoyed sitting on. Plenty of choice for breakfast and a varied 3 course meal every evening. The dining staff were excellent, cheerful and attentive.

Thank you for your lovely comments in respect our Royal. Our staff are so pleased that you have recognised them in your feedback as this means a very great deal to our team at the hotel. Thank you. We would agree that our large sun deck is a great amenity in the centre of the town of St. Helier. It is wonderful that you enjoyed your accommodation and this outdoor space. Thank you once again.

Just some 10 minutes walk to the shopping streets Best Western in St Helier is a great place to stay during your visit. There are plenty of rooms and I just loved the huge terrace on the roof where you could spend many hours just relaxing. The staff is great and friendly and the adjacent bar is probably on of the best in town. And it's geniune English!

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
We are really delighted with your kind words and thoughtful comments. We feel that they are very much in keeping with what makes the Royal special. We feel too that our first floor terrace is a great amenity in the heart of St. Helier, so close to the main shopping areas and the wonderful Millennium Town Park. Our Bar 27 is very popular with locals and guests alike and we are so pleased that you feel that we are probably one of the best in town. This is such a lovely comment and is very much appreciated. Finally, many thanks from our staff who are delighted with your warm comments. These are appreciated.

We stayed here for 3 nights and could really not fault the hotel on anything major. The car park is a bit of a trial, a code is needed to raise the shutter so, on arrival, I had to leave my husband and trot into reception to ask for it. Similarly when, on one occasion, it was full, a visit to reception advised me how to drive through the one way system to their sister hotel and use their easy access car park. All this information would have been so useful to have in advance, or at least being told about the other car park when we arrived. But huge thanks to Laurent in reception who painstakingly drew out a map so that we easily found it.That was just typical of all the staff who always took time to talk to the guests and engage them in conversation, not just pleasantries. Given that many, many of the guests were of advancing years, with limited hearing and other difficulties, this was truly lovely to see. Breakfast was fine, one very busy morning we did have to wait a long time for our coffee and toast, and so long for my fried egg that I gave up and got the other items from the buffet. It then, of course, arrived! As early retirees we were among the youngest there and it did, at times, feel a little akin to a care home but that is no reflection on the hotel, just the other guests! Easy walking into St Helier, and the usual bustle that goes with town living.

"Great hotel"

12/07/2016

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel, the Staff, food, drink and atmosphere in their own onsite 'traditional Pub' was excellent. Breakfast was also great as was the staff in the rest of the hotel. There is a really nice conservatory and outdoor area to relax or read in on the first floor. With the building being Victorian you can of course hear other people moving about in the rest of the hotel, not too much that you can do about that in an old building.. All in all a great little hotel.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
We are delighted that you feel that you enjoyed your stay with us at the Royal. We are an historic hotel in the heart of St. Helier and occupy a large site with good public areas and facilities. Your comments are much appreciated. Thank you for marking us as excellent overall. This is appreciated by our team at the hotel and we hope we will have the pleasure to welcome you back at some future date.

"Long awaited treat did not disappoint."

Comfortable, friendly hotel with high standards. The room was small but perfectly adequate, the food was superb with a large and reasonably priced Wine List and the staff were exceptionally professional but very friendly. The hotel is only a short walk from the centre of St. Helier, a busy but endlessly fascinating place to wander with pubs, bars, cafes aplenty, a picturesque marina and even a multiplex cinema if that is your fancy. The bus service is so efficient and cheap that a car is superfluous and the islands roads and lanes have not been sacrificed on the alter of progress. Around and within easy reach are all the beautiful beaches, stunning landscapes and places of interest you could possibly wish for.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your kind review and we are so pleased that we did not disappoint you on your long awaited treat. Your description of St. Helier is important as part of your review in that we too believe that St. Helier is an endlessly fascinating place to wander on foot. The Royal is well placed to do this being close to the high street and the Millennium Town Park. We are appreciative of your comments in all respects and your custom.

Have stayed at a couple of hotels in the past couple of months, wish I had found this to start with. Excellent staff, great location. Room was a little small and rather warm but ok, tv channels limited but was again ok. Was not too keen on the breakfast, sausages and bacon always seemed to be a little under cooked and rubbery, but for the price and location it was fine.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
We are so pleased that you are happy with your choice of hotel and that you feel that we compare well to other establishments. We do seek to make guests feel comfortable. Your feedback is much appreciated. Our staff are particularly delighted with your comments. Finally, thank you for expressing that you feel we represented value and that we are well located. This is appreciated.

"Clean and welcoming"

Stayed one night for business in a single room - but very clean and appeared to have been recently decorated so this wasn't a problem. The staff on reception were very welcoming. Perhaps a bit noisy as the corner of the hotel where the room was overlooked traffic light controlled cross-roads - but nothing too bad.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your kind comments. We have indeed decorated many bedrooms at the hotel in recent times and we are pleased that you have noted this upkeep and that you were impressed with the cleanliness. Thank you as this feedback is important to us. We are an historic town hotel near the High Street in St. Helier and we are delighted that you chose us for your business trip to Jersey. Thank you for your custom and feedback.

this hotel is very nice a little bit tired but the food and ambience excellent the bar in the hotel was not very welcoming, but the staff were brilliant ther few days we were there there was 2 coach load of German Tourists and you got the impression that the staff wre overworked and some were stressed out but overall a pleasant stay.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
We are pleased that you found our historic Royal to be very nice and that you enjoyed a pleasant stay. We are more traditional in style and were established as an hotel in the 1840's. "A fine hotel in a great location"

01/07/2016

We have stayed in this hotel three times now and I am sure we will be back. For us one of its best attributes is its location, just an easy 20 minute walk from the centre of St Helier and the bus station but far enough out that it is not too noisy. It is a very comfortable hotel, the rooms are a good size, with nice big beds. Getting enough storage space is a bit hit or miss, some of the room seem to be designed for short stays. That wasn't a problem this time, we had lots of hangng space and plenty drawers. Bathrooms are well appointed. Service throughout is excellent, efficient and very friendly. Breakfasts in the main diningroom are one of the highlights of our holiday. The diningroom is lovely, the staff are brilliant and the food fabulous. You can have anything from a continental to a full cooked breakfast. One small piece of advice is that the items, like poached eggs, that you have to order are cooked fresh on demand so it is better to wait for them to arrive before getting the rest of your plate from the buffet. The Four Seasons Restaurant is the same room from breakfast - I would have reviewed it separately but I could not find an entry for it. It is a really nice restaurant that you would want to dress up a bit for. The menu is a fixed price two or three course affair with about four choices per course. The menu changes dailly and is on a one week cycle. We try to go at least once per trip - if the menu suits us. You can also get food in the bar which is quite good - I thought the bar food was better this year than last year. They have a range of food from sandwiches to full meals. Again I wanted to review it separately but couldn't. There is a central courtyard at first floor level which is enclosed and a bit of a sun trap. In the middle is a comfortable conservatory to sit in - although it is sometimes booked for business meetings. The Royal basically has everything we need.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your three visits and for your feedback. We are an historic hotel in central St. Helier and we too feel that we are away from the noisier parts of the town. Our bedrooms do differ and we are always pleased to look at requests in respect of bedroom size, facilities or location when booking. Seasons Restaurant does have its own listing on tripadvisor and thank you for your wonderful comments. Finally, thank you once again for your fantastic and review. It is one of the very best that we have enjoyed and our team at the hotel are exceedingly grateful for your thoughtful comment and for noticing the effort that we make to ensure that we meet the needs of our valued guests.

"A scarlet greeting"

5
25/06/2016

We were greeted by a show of gorgeous scarlet geraniums , pristine in their loveliness at the entrance to the Hotel. From then on it was all enjoyable. From the help with our bags up the steps to the greeting by reception. We had a room with a patio/sundeck and although bijou, had everything we wanted and beautifully clean. It was our Golden Wedding & the complimentary bottle of fizz from the Hotel just made our day.The restaurant had a touch of old world charm about it and the food and service were first class. Why is this only a 3 star ? the food and presentation and service compares with some 5 star hotels. All staff had a 'can do ' attitude. Their aim was to make sure we enjoyed our stay with them and we did.We had thought that we would have missed a swimming pool, but 5 minutes up the road was their sister hotel with a pool, so no problem and we thought that our hotel was probably a bit quieter and more of a genteel charm without a pool. Location a 15 minute stroll into town. The attached 'pub' was inviting and we should have checked on the entertainment as missed some good performers.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your simply wonderful review of our hotel. The Royal is an historic hotel, established in the 1840's, and our owners have continued to invest considerably into the infrastructure and accommodation over a long period of time. We are an older hotel and this is an aspect of the hotel that presents a patina which is different from may competing hotels and it is important to understand this historic element at time of booking. An element that you have clearly enjoyed and one that we always seek to make clear on this site. We change the colours of the frontage gardens each year and we are delighted that you like our floral presentation for 2016. Your comment has made us very happy. Thank you finally for your kind comments in respect of our team at the hotel. These are very much appreciated.

24/06/2016

I stayed at the hotel the night before a job interview and it was great! Such a good location for me to get out and explore St Helier from the hotel. The room had an amazing four poster bed which was heavenly to sleep on, there was a lovely little balcony over looking the roof terrace and a HUGE bath! I dined in the restaurant for dinner. This did feel a little odd as I was significantly younger than the other guests and very much not in a couple (although there were a few other individuals I noticed in a different area). The food was really delishious, generously sized portions which were really affordable on the set menu. The only thing I would say would be that an individual jug of water would have been better than a single jug the waiters offered and shared between tables. Check out was simple and flexible and I very much enjoyed my stay at the hotel.

"very attentive helpful staff"

21/06/2016

We stayed for four nights in mid June. The hotel is in a location away from the town centre but was such that it was possible to walk to the town centre within 15 minutes.Car parking was available although the lack of consideration shown by some guests through not parking within lines limited space occasionally. The third floor room was very clean and comfortable although quite warm at night given that the ambient temperatures were not high. Breakfast was very good with a very good choice. All the staff we encountered were extremely helpful and attentive. We would be pleased to return for further visits.

15/06/2016

Stayed in a family room (double and a single). Lovely. Comfy bed, very clean, big enough room for two and a half of us (2 1/2 year old). The staff throughout simply couldn't have made us feel more welcome. The hotel is a little away from beach which actually helped us see more of St Helier as we had to walk through, well, everywhere. A lovely clean, friendly, comfy recommended hotel. Ps breakfast was lovely too.

14/06/2016

We stayed at the Royal Hotel for 5 nights in early June. We had a room that was on the first floor and had a patio door onto the sun patio, which really was a sunny patio. The room was clean and well resourced, and the bathroom was clean with a double bath! The staff on reception were very helpful, and polite. The staff at breakfast were professional and very helpful, and there was a good choice of continental or cooked breakfast, and you could help yourself to anything that you wanted. The staff helped anyone who was less mobile, and really were lovely with guests! We liked the location, as it was a 10-15 minute walk from the centre of St. Helier, and would definitely stay there again.

Being a single traveller I expected a pokey room, far from it. Spacious, Clean & tidy, on the 2nd floor, toward the back, not at all noisy. Hotel in great position for short walk to centre of St Helier. Staff all over the hotel friendly & courteous, lots of smiles. Good selection of food at breakfast, and bar food was tasty depending on your likes/dislikes. Would definitely stay here again.

Staff in this hotel were wonderful - polite, courteous, professional, and very, very, very helpful. The room and bathroom were very clean. Breakfasts - Full and Continental - had plenty of choice. With a central location - a short walk into St Helier. Guests had the use of the swimming pool and spa at the twin hotel Monteray.

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful review. We are an historic hotel in the centre of St. Helier close to our sister owned Monterey Hotel as stated. An added free bonus is that guests of the Royal may use the indoor swimming pool and mini gym at the Monterey Hotel which is a five minute walk on the same road. Stopford road. We do seek to be helpful and this comment in respect of our staff is so very much valued and means much to us at the hotel. Importantly, we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay. "Far too noisy"

3
08/06/2016

It's a shame that because of its location (on a cross roads) the rooms are noisy until late and noisy early in the morning. The pizza place opposite our room as open until 1115pm with a stream of yoofs with fat exhausts driving by all the time. Add to that the bottles collections and bin collections and this isn't a quiet place. The hotel itself is fine. Our room was basic but fine although there's no air con so you have to open the windows and that's were the noise became a significant issue. The first floor terrace is a great selling point for afternoon drinks. Breakfast was good and the staff were lovely. Sorry but due to the traffic noise I'd stay elsewhere next time.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your custom and comment. We are pleased you liked our main first floor internal terrace which is a great facility. Thank you also for your kind comments on our breakfasts and our staff. These comments are very much appreciated by my team. We are a town centre hotel but clearly well away from the main nightlife areas of the town. We are sorry to hear your comments on bedroom location. With this in mind, if prospective guest feel that noise may be a concern in the evening or morning then please feel free to request a quiet bedroom at time of booking, as we have mentioned on this forum. Thank you again for your comments and feedback.

A very pleasant stay at this hotel. We stayed the large family room with one double bed and 2 singles. The breakfast, restaurant and bar were great, the hotel was very clean and tidy. The staff were lovely and made us feel very welcome. The hotel is situated less than a 10 minute walk from the main high street which was also very convenient.

We returned to this hotel after visiting last April to see parts of Jersey we had not visited last year. The standard was as last year very good and we even had the same room, opening onto the terrace.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your return visit. We are so pleased this met your expectations on both occasions. Our sun terrace is a large internal area which is unusual for Jersey in a town centre hotel and is well used by guests. Thank you for your wonderful feedback.

Stayed for 4 nights, very comfortable and large room with a separate sitting room. Hotel staff very courteous. Roomed cleaned daily and to an excellent standard. Breakfast was varied and plentiful with extra items cooked fresh at a moment's notice. Bar was well stocked and reasonably priced and bar meals were tasty and again not expensive. Location very good for shops and seafront area amenities. Would stay here again and happy to recommend to others.

poor service at breakfast very slow staff ignored us and we never received the food we ordered.Room was a good size and very clean a bit noisy on the front of hotel due to busy road.Very good bar meals and good service by bar staff different staff from breakfast room.

Excellent service and comfortable bed. Breakfasts and dinners could not be faulted. Delicious food and friendly staff. Only four stars given as much walking from the lift to various rooms, often with three or four steps to negotiate with cases. However this would not put me off staying in the hotel again. Thoroughly recommended.

"Nice hotel"

29/05/2016

Very pleasant and helpful staff. The room we were given was nice but noisey at night as it was on the corner of the hotel above a junction with trafic lights.Breakfasts were excellent but evening meals a bit cheffy for my taste. Not happy that the conservatory was being used for seminars and private functions for 7 of the 14 days of our stay and therefore not available for paying guests.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your kind comments. We are a town centre hotel and if this is a concern to prospective guests then non road facing bedrooms may be requested at time of booking. We proudly hold an AA Rosette for our restaurant catering and have a long established kitchen team. Meals are freshly prepares. The type of restaurant catering on offer is shown in pictures displayed on our website. More informal meals are available in our Bar 27. We have excellent public areas within our hotel. Our large conservatory was available each evening. From experience the area is normally completely empty during the day and seminars do provide some activity in the hotel at quiet times. Thank you for your feedback and valued custom.

""Nice but""

3
28/05/2016

Ok, so this was a nice hotel in a decent location, pretty quiet, room had a four poster bed and a door to the large terrace and a huge shower room, however, the bed had the hardest mattress I've ever slept on, no padding at all, we could feel every spring. Breakfast was quite expensive £12.50 for a full English. Staff were friendly and helpful but we wouldn't stay there again because of the mattress!

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
We are pleased that you felt the hotel was nice in so many respects. We have very few Four Poster bedrooms. These beds are large structures within these few bedrooms. These structures do not have a sub-base to the mattress as the bed forms part of a solid structure for safety reasons. We will happily review the few bedrooms of this type and we can report that we use a highly reputable branded bed throughout the hotel in all other bedroom types. We hope this helps. We are also pleased to move guests between bedrooms should the bedroom allocated not be to your preference for any reason. We are a historic hotel and our bedroom do differ. Breakfast is priced at £12.75 when purchased direct at the hotel. We believe this is highly competitive locally. It is priced in at a lower rate if purchased as a pert of a package as opposed to when being purchased as an add on to a 'room only' hotel rate. We are delighted that you felt our staff were friendly. This constructive and thoughtful feedback is very much appreciated by our team at the hotel who hold a Gold Investor in People Award. Thank you for your feedback and we hope that in mind of the above you would consider visiting us at some future point. You would be most welcome at the historic Royal.

We stayed recently at this hotel. We were on half board and the choice of food both for breakfast and evening meals could not be faulted. The staff were very obliging and friendly and gave excellent service. When we arrived we asked for our room to be changed and this was done very quickly. The hotel also has an informal bar where lunches etc are served.

We are delighted with your kind comments. Thank you for your custom and informative review. This is appreciated by our team at the hotel.

"A great business hotel"

4
26/05/2016

For the cost of staying against the friendly ambiance and facilities offered, this is hard to beat. A well maintained and hospitable hotel close to the centre of St Helier this is ideal for short business or pleasure stays. The staff are with out exception helpful and polite and will go the extra mile to make your stay effortless. The food is standard, breakfast will keep you going and is tasty but nothing special. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with all the necessary facilities, however because this is an old building, any one who walks past your room makes the floor boards creak. A great little hotel for the cost.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
We are delighted we met your needs whilst on business staying in our 89 bedroom town centre hotel. The hotel has just completed installation of a new comprehensive Cisco Systems WiFi solution. A major investment for us at the hotel. This is a high end fully load balanced WiFi solution, fitted throughout the hotel and is a free service for guests. We are delighted that you found us to be a 'great little hotel for the cost' and hope the information above is of interest to prospective guests. Thank you for your custom and feedback.

"Excellent Hotel"

24/05/2016

We have used the Best Western Brand a number of times and chose this Hotel on that basis. This was our first visit to Jersey for 23 years and flew by Fly Be and hired a car. After trying to find the Hotel without success we finally managed the one way system. Couldn't fault the service on arrival. Our room was a family size with a double and a single and doors opening out to a sun terrace. We booked B & B and the breakfasts were plentiful with very attentive staff. We dined in the restaurant one night and were impressed by the standard of food. Mostly we used the adjoining bar which served a wide variety of reasonably priced meals all day long. Nothing could be faulted with the Hotel but Saint Helier has changed over the years and is now very busy. If we returned would probably go to another Hotel somewhere a little more sedate and quiet.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
We are delighted that you felt that nothing could be faulted with our hotel. This is lovely feedback. We are an historic hotel on a large town centre site. We are close to the main shopping areas and the new Millennium Town Park and this is enjoyed by so many of our guests. Your comments on our breakfasts, dinner and restaurant staff are very much appreciated. Our catering team and bar staff are delighted with your feedback. Thank you once again.

"Last minute booking"

5
23/05/2016

We booked a last minute holiday to Jersey from East Midlands airport with Flybe - we'd never been to Jersey before! The Flybe flight prices were very reasonable from Fri to Mon so I then started looking for accommodation on the Flybe website and after comparing the accommodation available and studying the Tripadvisor reviews the Best Western Royal Hotel, St Helier, Jersey, came out favourite for me. I chose the Best Western as we'd previously stayed at the Best Western in Rome and were very satisfied on that occasion. On arrival at the Royal we checked in for our bed and breakfast stay and were given our room key, the Hotel is an old building with lots of history but is in excellent shape inside and our room was large with an adjoining bathroom/shower. We'd only booked half board and had planned to eat elsewhere at night but to be honest the food at the Royal is really good, lots of choice, great value and whether you want bar food, a burger, steak or three course meal the Royal caters for all. Breakfast next morning was just as good - loads of choice - full English, continental or mixture of the two - it's up to you - great food - great choice - great staff - what is there not to like? Free WiFi is included at the hotel and in your room you have a kettle with plenty of sachets of coffee, tea, chocolate - and a packet of biscuits too! It takes about ten minutes to walk from the centre of St Helier to the hotel - you may do it quicker - but we are both in our 60's and we found it an easy walk. One day we fancied a coach tour around the island and the hotel booked this for us as well - nothing was too much trouble - and when it was time to come home I could even print off my boarding pass - thanks to Lawrence for all his help on reception and all the rest of the staff (sorry I don't know all your names) who made our stay in Jersey at the Royal Hotel so enjoyable. We'd definitely stay at the Royal if we go to Jersey again.

ManagerJersey, Owner at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your wonderful comments in respect of your stay at our historic BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel. Thank you so much. Your comments are just so delightful and are thoughtful towards our team here at the hotel. We hope to have the pleasure to welcome you back sometime soon.

"Good but very small room"

4

Good in general but I must have had the smallest room in the hotel and when I checked out I heard someone mentioning the same thing. Clean and tidy though and could have been recently redecorated. Excellent breakfast but I would advise that you have full English rather than kippers or haddock!

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your kind comments on our breakfasts. Please note that a full English breakfast is available from the buffet and this is a popular choice. In all, breakfast consists of nine hot items and a range of cold and Continental breakfast items. Four items, including fish items, are cooked to order which clearly takes time, then delivered from the kitchen. We are pleased that you found our breakfast comprehensive. The Royal is an old historic hotel. Bedroom size does vary but by far the majority are large bedrooms. If this is important to prospective guests then do please request a larger bedroom when booking as we always aim to meet requests. Thank you once again. We are pleased you feel that we are a good hotel.

"Lovely hotel but service not great"

We recently stayed for three nights at the Royal on our first trip to Jersey - we chose it for the beautiful old building, added bonus of its own large bar and restaurant and close proximity to the town - about 10 minutes walk from the centre. The room we were allocated was a family room so was extra spacious but staff quickly realised there were just two of us staying and did not replenish the tea making facilities after the first day, and even didn't replace towels later in our stay. Breakfast was fine if you wanted just cereal/fruit or croissants but the cooked offering was very poor and if you wanted something other than what was on the hot plate, a wait of around 20 minutes was typical according to other guests - I note other reviews have commended the breakfasts but this wasn't our experience. We usually had to wait 15 minutes plus for coffee and toast, the latter always being cold and barely more than warmed bread. This experience put us off eating in the restaurant in the evening. The dining room staff looked completely out of their depth and some were quite grumpy- I would guess that they are all new and not used to working together yet- they really need to get their act together before the Summer! We went on to stay two nights at the La Place in St Brelade - what a contrast! Staff went out of their way to be helpful and the food was amazing - literally a wait of minutes for a full cooked breakfast, large pots of piping coffee and plenty of toast with offers of more - the breakfast team at the Royal could learn a lot.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your kind comments in respect of our beautiful building and lovely hotel. These are much appreciated and we have been established for over 170 years providing town centre hospitality. We value guest opinions. It is good to note that you enjoyed the space of a family bedroom at no supplementary cost to yourselves. We do not limit tea and coffee items as suggested. The hotel operates an environmental policy when servicing the bedrooms, as stated within our bedrooms, that towels are not replaced if they are placed back on the towel rail. We are sorry if this caused confusion but this is common in many hotels. We are pleased that breakfast was fine for you. We have a comprehensive buffet breakfast available including nine cooked breakfast items. Your comments in respect of the experience of other guests ordering additional items finding a delay from the kitchen does not take account of the fact that these items are limited to four items and these are specifically noted as being on request on the menu. Items being ordered from the kitchen in this way are limited in choice and are freshly cooked by our kitchen breakfast team, which takes time, including items such as smoked haddock which from our experience are better served freshly cooked from the kitchen. This has been our policy for a long number of years and we hope this explanation helps. Our staff are not all new as we operate the Royal all year round but rather many are long standing. We are a large and busy town centre hotel and do engage some additional staff for the season and of course your comments will be discussed. It is not easy to make comparison with other hotels of a very different nature as you seek to do within your review. Finally, thank you for your comments. This forum allows hotels to give our factual understanding of matters and we would always encourage guests to speak with our long established management team at the hotel if they have questions or concerns as in our experience concerns can often be easily overcome or questions answered. We are sorry that you felt you had to wait for toast and coffee. This is never our intention but there is a good buffet selection with juices available at all times from the buffet.

We had booked a standard double room and on arrival asked for a quiet room which we were given. It was a bit small, and overlooked the car park, but yes, it was quiet, and the en suite was a good size. The bed was very comfortable, and once we had mentioned that a couple of lights didn't seem to be working they were fixed extremely quickly. The hotel is a short walk to the main shops, so quite convenient. Altogether, a good, reasonably priced city hotel.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
We are so pleased that we met your requests at the Royal. We invest much into our beds, using a quality branded supplier and it is wonderful that you noticed this fact. Our maintenance team are on-hand to deal with any small items. We directly employ a qualified electrician as well as a painter and decorator and general builder to meet the needs of the hotel on a daily basis. We do seek to provide value in a premium town centre location near to the new Millennium Town park and the main shopping areas. We are delighted that you feel we met your needs. Thank you for your custom and feedback.

Our stay at the Royal Best Western was a great experience from beginning to end. The hotel was very clean and comfortable and the staff were brilliant in every way. They were friendly and attentive and made our stay complete. The food was delicious with silver service. The hotel is located in easy walking distance to the harbour.

"Excellent service, pleasant rooms"

Reception staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. As there was room on the night I stayed I was upgraded to a bigger room which was in the new section and very pleasant. For sun lovers they have a large sun terrace, which is a pleasant and hot environment bearing in mind the residential location of the hotel. Food was very good - breakfast excellent, dinner I would have like a bit more choice but the food and service were both very good. Excellent value for what I paid.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your lovely review. It is wonderful that you mention our large sun terrace, a valuable amenity for our guests at our central town hotel. We are so pleased that you found us to be excellent value. We have invested substantially throughout our hotel in recent times and as such your feedback on our hotel experience on offer is greatly appreciated. Thank you once again.

The room was of a good size, clean and well decorated. Staff manning the reception desk and serving in the restaurant were very helpful, cheerful and polite. Food throughout my stay was of a high standard.

Food is such an important part of any full service hotel stay and as such your feedback is so very much appreciated by our team. We hold on AA Rosette and we are proud to have held this accolade since 2008. Quiet hotel, but well placed in the centre of St Helier. Great room, clean, everything you need including tea/coffee, trouser press, hair drier, fan, plenty hangers, extra blankets if needed. Double bed a touch on the small side but this was a family room with another single bed. Bath and shower (not much power in latter but adequate), plus toiletries and good towels. We also liked the fact that we could throw open the windows - not always possible in newer hotels. Only caution: if you want a long lie in the morning, avoid Room 300. It is close to the lift but it's the really squeaky floorboards right outside the door of Room 300 that create the problem. The first time, we thought the army was back in town! The Seasons Restaurant has lovely menus. But it's very short on atmosphere and although our dinner was good, the roast beef could easily have soled our shoes. The Bar is big, warm, comfortable and inviting; and the food here was very good. Staff and servicing at this hotel are wonderful. Friendly, helpful and efficient. We will definitely stay here again and recommend to family and friends.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to post such a generous review on our town centre BEST WESTERN Royal hotel. Your comments are noted and appreciated. Thank you for reporting that you would definitely recommend us to family and friends. This is so very generous and thoughtful and is appreciated by my team here at the Royal. Thank you once again.

We have stayed at The Best Western Royal hotel a number of times. We have always found it very well run by the Morvan family. Over the winter, a significant amount has been spent on a very tasteful refurbishment of the public areas and guest rooms. Our bedroom was spacious to accommodate 3 persons, very comfortable beds too. The service, which was always friendly, had gone up a notch too, with staff being very attentive and genuinely willing to please. Buffet breakfast is delicious. Location too is great, a short stroll to the shops and free parking. Highly recommend.

WE wanted a few days away of peace and quiet. We could not have picked a better hotel. It is in the centre of St Helier and very quiet. The staff have got to have been the best we have encountered. They could not have been more helpful or polite. They all worked together as a team and were always smiling. We are looking forward to returning later in the year.

A good quality hotel on all accounts ideally situated for the centre of St Helier its shops and attractions. The standard and quality of the Restaurant is high and nothing is too much trouble. I was impressed by the staff's turnout and cleanliness of the hotels livery.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. It is wonderful that you felt we are a good quality hotel on all accounts. We are a hotel with a depth of history over our 170 years of operation and high standards are important to us. We do feel too that we are ideally situated for the centre of St. Helier close to the main shopping streets and attractions but away from the very centre of the town. This is appreciated by so many of our repeat guests. Our catering team are delighted with your feedback. Thank you for the courtesy and care extended towards them in your review. This is very much valued by my team here at the BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel.

Just come back from this lovely hotel ... we stayed in a room on the first floor with court yard was lovely and big and the most comfortablest bed ever couldnt fault the room at all .. was also cleaned everyday ..... breakfast was nice we never tried any other meals as we ate out ..... staff are all very pleasant .... would stay here again ..

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
We are delighted that you would stay with us once again and thank you for your kind custom and feedback. Our internal sun terrace areas are indeed lovely and big and this feature is unusual for a town centre hotel. We are long established and benefit from a large site as land was not at such a premium in St. Helier when our hotel was created. This is a seen as a plus point by many guests staying with us. Our beds are all supplied by a leading brand supplier and we receive much positive feedback on this aspect. Thank you for your comments. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back to our BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel at some future point.

23/04/2016

Having read many reviews, we decided to opt for this hotel, our first visit to Jersey also. Location is ok, away from centre about 10 minutes walk, no problems with that. Checked in ok, given room at top overlooking main red - some traffic noise obviously, but nothing major, out during day and traffic eased off during evening, so we had no issues there. Free wi-fi, well this was really hit and miss. Spoke with reception, they sorted it. Still very sporadic, ok down in reception, but our room no, problems all week. Usual breakfast selection, the cooked food was only just warm, same everyday. We were not the only people to have noticed. The croissants were delicious though. Staff throughout all pleasant and polite. Lovely sun terrace out the rear of the hotel, access from 1st floor. A real sun trap! The bar served nice looking bar meals, appeared quite busy the evenings we went in for a drink before heading out. The lift made us laugh, every time when reaching the desired floor, coming to a stop would always be a bumpy landing! Quirky. Overall, we enjoyed our stay in Jersey and at the hotel. Thank you.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
We are pleased that you liked our location and your stay at our BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel. Thank you. Many guests like the fact that we are a few minutes walk away from the main shopping areas and of course we are almost alongside the new Millennium Town Park, a popular facility within St. Helier. Our passenger lift is a modern OTIS lift and is fully maintained under an annual maintenance contract with OTIS. It is a quality lift unit from a leading worldwide branded supplier. I hope that this information helps. Likewise, we are in the process now of updating our WiFi to a fully maintained Cisco network. This is another major upgrade for the hotel allowing fully load balanced usage on an unlimited number of devices per bedroom and in public areas. The service provided will be free of charge to all guests. The new leading brand system is already established and tested within another of our hotels and has provided a highly resilient WiFi coverage platform for guests. It is a major investment for us and should overcome any issues you identified. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay both in Jersey and at the Royal. Thank you for your custom. Your feedback gives us the opportunity to respond from our perspective for the benefit of future valued clients to the hotel. We are always pleased to speak with guests whilst in-house at the hotel should you require more information on any aspect of our hotel operation. Such feedback is appreciated and we hope that we may welcome you back sometime soon to the Royal.

This is a lovely hotel. It is clean, modern with traditional feel and very comfortable. The breakfast is great, delicious choices, buffet style. Staff excellent, very quiet. Just a little bit away from the centre of town but easily walkable.

It is wonderful that you found our hotel to be a lovely hotel. Thank you for encapsulating within your review exactly what we are trying to achieve at the BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel. In respect of our location we are very close to the main shopping areas of St. Helier and this distance is easily walkable as you describe. There are no hotels physically located on the main King Street or Queen Street shopping streets. Thank you for your kind comments. These are appreciated by my team here at the hotel.

40 years ago my husband and myself had our honeymoon on Jersey so to celebrate we thought it would be romantic if we returned to the island for our Ruby anniversary, the hotel we stayed in then is now longer there so my husband booked The Best Western Royal in St Helier what a wonderful 5 days we had at this hotel from arriving quite early in the day we thought we would have to wait a long time for our room but no the room was ready and it was very pleasant, very sunny and quiet being at the back of the hotel.Nice big bathroom and two beds one single and one king size, tea and coffee facilities also on hand and much appreciated. The reception area and dining rooms are both bright and welcoming as are all the staff, nothing too much trouble for any of them and the food both at breakfast and in the evening was very good.We stayed half board for the duration and found the evening meal to be excellent with plenty of choice and most filling too much sometimes should have opted for two course instead of three but hey who can resist a scrumptious looking desert. The hotel is well placed for the town centre being a 10 min walk away, bit difficult to find first time if you are driving because of all the road works and road closures in the town but once you have cracked it very easy to find Jersey is so beautiful with wonderful beaches at St Brelade Bay and the 5 mile long beach at St Ouen also pretty little coves like Rozel Bay and Bouley Bay in the hamlet of Trinity home to the late Alan Whicker also St Catherines Breakwater where local people go for fishing, lots there when we went. The crowning glory of Jersey must be The Royal Bay of Grouville with it's impressive Mount Orgueil Castle very impressive. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the icing on the cake was the management and staff put a bottle of bubbly in our room with a note wishing us both a happy anniversary such a nice thought. We would recommend this hotel to anyone it is an excellent place to stay either for business or pleasure.Thank you to all the staff and management for making our anniversary so memorable..

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your kind comments and for congratulations once again on your Ruby Anniversary. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay both in Jersey and at our Royal. You would be most welcome should you choose to visit us again at some future point.

Beautifully decorated. Their web site needs updating , it doesn't give justice at all. The food is amazing breakfast and dinner. Staff polite, helpful, a credit to the hotel. The hotel is cleaned to a very high standard. Bedrooms good size and have a full size ironing board and iron in and also a good quality hair dryer.Secure car park at the side of the hotel.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your kind comments. We are so pleased that we exceeded your expectations. We have indeed invested a considerable sum into the hotel in recent times with another twenty bedroom having been updated and works having been recently completed. This is always an on-going process as we are long established and good maintenance is important to us. Our accommodation is more diverse than with some other hotel brands and this is appreciated by many guests who enjoy the personality this brings. There is a depth of history within the hotel and we are always happy to move guests within the hotel if they want to view the diverse range of accommodation styles available. Thank you once again.

Central location about 10 minutes walk to the centre of St Helier. Nice and clean, reception looks as if it has recently been refurbished and is smart and stylish, the staff are very welcoming and helpful. The rooms were clean and tidy though a little dated. There are lots of rooms and it does seem that you walk for an age down various corridors, you need a good sense of direction! The bar was nice and had most mainstream beers in stock. Decent place for the price.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your lovely review of our BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel. We are delighted that you found so many positive attributes with our hotel. Our location is often commented upon as being a major advantage - nearby the town centre and being the closest hotel to the excellent new Millennium Town Park. We are one of the oldest hotels in Jersey, established for well over 150 years. We do seek to maintain this sense of tradition with the style of hotel. The hotel has received substantial investment in recent times and we are pleased that you found us to be good value. Your custom is appreciated. Thank you once again.

I visited this hotel to have a meal there. There is a good variety on the menu. The price is also very good and the staff most helpful and welcoming. The bar has an old style character to it. It is also very centrally located being just a ten minute walk from central St Helier.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
We are grateful for your comments on our catering and hospitality. We hold an AA Rosette for our catering and have done so for many years. Our bar is deliberately of an old style character and this reflects and is in keeping with the Victorian façade of the hotel, successfully established since the 1840's. Thank you once again. Your comments are constructive and are very much valued by our dedicated catering team here at the Royal.

"Lovely hotel "

02/04/2016

The hotel is very clean and the staff were very helpful. It took us a few attempts to find in the hire car but I think that was due to us being new to the island! The breakfast had a very good selection and the morning we had to leave to get an early flight the staff were more than happy to deliver breakfast up to our room. The only minor issue is the noise at nighttime. It wasn't necessarily the hotels fault though, just traffic and bin collections etc. I would definitely stay here again if I'm in jersey

Once again stayed at the Royal on business. Check in was quick as we were expected, with the staff being really helpful. My room was excellent in all respects, large, spotlessly clean with a large double bed. We held a conference in the evening and received a good service from staff and an excellent buffet of sandwiches for our delegates. Breakfast is served at the table, all freshly cooked and hot. I arrived by taxi so cannot comment on parking. A clean traditional hotel which I will definitely use again.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your comments on your second return visit to our hotel. We are delighted that we met your needs so well once again and your comments are a great encouragement to our team of staff at the hotel. They make a difference to us. "Function"

23/02/2016

We had a function here for my Sons Christening, the food was nice but not worth the money we paid, the majority of the staff were rude, we had told the deputy manager about a leak in the roof and all we got back was him shrugging his shoulders, a family member got told to go downstairs and get her own Coke to go with her drink as they had run out upstairs!! We ordered the children 2 jugs of orange and black currant (which just tasted like water and cost £7.95). I spoke with the general manager about everything and to me he was not interested. Lack of customer services, I will never go to this place again. Definitely not worth the money we had paid!!.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Christenings should be wonderful occasions and we regret that you did not find this to be the case in respect of our hotel. We do not agree with the contents of your review which has been posted following your event which you ran from midday to 10pm. We communicated with you professionally in our view at all times on any issues raised.

15/02/2016

Went for a long weekend to Jersey with the family, including 2 year old son. The hotel was great. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, whether it was advice on where to go, or a glass of warm milk for our son in the evening. The food in the evening was truly excellent, both in the main restaurant and the bar. Nice convenient location, although parking is limited and can be difficult. Thoroughly recommend and will certainly visit again.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
We are so pleased that you found our hotel was great when you stayed with us with your family including your young son. We always seek to provide professional service and your feedback is a great encouragement to my team at the hotel. Our recent award of Gold standard Investor in People is unique in Jersey to our BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, along with our sister hotels with our locally owned Morvan Hotels Group. We hold an AA Rosette for our catering and are delighted that you found our catering to be excellent. We have a long established senior team of chefs and they very much value this feedback too. Our location by the town centre is indeed convenient. Due to our location, we are a busy hotel and are open year round with much established trade. Indeed, the hotel has been trading for well over 150 years. Thank you for your valued and constructive contribution to this forum.

Have stayed here a few times on yearly visit, the restaurant was closed for refurbishment this time but they warned as soon as it was booked, only meant continental breakfast but the choice was very good none the less. Room I was given seemed fairly recently decorated and much nicer than I remember. Looking forward to the next visit. Such a great location with the parking as well.

Thank you for your repeat visit and for your kind review. It is wonderful that you feel we are in a great location. We are located by the new Millennium Town Park in the centre of St. Helier. We have continued to invest into the Royal both in terms of our bedrooms as well our public areas and back of house. We are pleased that you have noticed these changes. Our AA Rosette restaurant re-opened some time ago after our kitchen refurbishment. It is appreciated and we hope to welcome you back sometime soon.

Here in business trip for two days. At first on arrival it took ages for someone to come to the front desk which isn't a good start! Then went to room after a good wait for key. Room was nice and clean I'll give it that. Bathroom very spacious and clean also. Food not great 5/10. Nice presentation but over cooked. Overall happy but won't return. Would be a great place with the right staff.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your comments following your one night stay. Your custom is appreciated. We remember you well at the hotel and our interaction with you during that time. Your score given does not align with your comments which are quite positive in general as you report that you were happy overall. Respectfully, we have the following comments on the individual points you raise. Our reception is attended 24 hours. Our reception office is within a few metres of the reception desk and the reception was attended almost immediately from our viewpoint. Two members of staff were indeed on duty and we apologise if you felt there was no attendance but this was not actually the case. Electronic keys were produced as you completed the check-in formality and we requested the taxi that you required at that time which arrived efficiently. We are delighted that that you felt the bedroom was nice. Also that the bathroom was spacious. This is appreciated. You ate within the hotel and we are pleased that you felt that your meal was well presented. The level of cooking is to some extent subjective and we are always happy to discuss this with individual customers. We had a large group dining with us on the night of your stay and I am pleased to report that their feedback was most positive. We are an AA Rosette restaurant and have retained our Rosette over many years successfully. We are sorry that we did not fully meet your needs on this occasion. Finally, thank you for your feedback and we hope that you would consider a future stay. You would be very welcome back at our town centre BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel.

Whilst I understand the need for a kitchen refurbishment I was not happy to be told that there were no evening meals available during my two nights stay. My option I was told was to eat out. I was on my own, tired, ut was dark and raining and I don't know the area, si no it was not an option. They managed to provide a continental breakfast which was fine. I am not sure what the answer is but I felt that something more could have been done.

ManagerJersey, Manager at BEST WESTERN Royal Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for understanding the need for our early January programmed kitchen refurbishment which fully completes in one week when normal on-site catering will re-commence. We are sorry you felt it inconvenient to eat out at our town centre hotel. We have advised guests of comparable restaurants on check-in, all within just a few of minutes of the hotel on foot. We are pleased that your breakfast was fine. We continue to invest into the Royal which holds an AA Rosette for its catering along with the highest level five star Eat Safe award from the local health authority. The works will allow us to maintain the highest physical standards within our kitchens. Thank you once again for your understanding.

"Good Hotel but could Improve."

03/01/2016

Stayed here for 10 days over Christmas and New Year and overall had a pleasant stay. The second floor room was spacious with comfortable bed and plenty of storage space, a large TV, easy chairs and table and free Wi Fi. Except for one dinner of uneatable duck the food was well presented from a good menu selection with gala buffets on both Christmas Day evening and New Years Eve. Mulled wine was readily available over Christmas with pre dinner glasses of bubbly. The friendly members of staff were anxious to please but with a range of native languages orders were often misunderstood. Evening entertainment was appreciated on several nights although the disco on New Years Eve was loud enough to drive some of us older guests out into the bar as conversation was impossible for a while. Things did quieten down however allowing us back to dance into 2016. The hotel bar was good with bar meals available and local real ale at a surprising cost of under £3 a pint. Annoying things included the queueing for entering the Balmoral Suite to be seated at our table, understandable perhaps with many non-resident dinner guests for New Years Eve Gala Buffet but unnecessary each evening when a table had already been allocated to us in advance. Another annoying feature being the often long wait between courses 45 minutes between main course and sweet on one evening. Just minor constructive criticisms but necessary if corrected to make a good hotel an excellent one.

A very well presented hotel with excellent facilities and first class service. This is one of the best hotel's we have stayed in for some time. Well worth a visit if you are travelling to Jersey. Its central location makes it a perfectly for visiting St Helier and the surrounding area.

We hadnt considered a staycation at the Royal before but were pleasantly surprised by everything that the hotel had to offer. We ate in the hotel bar and the food was great. The portions were generous and reasonable in price and the atmosphere was cosy which is just what we were after. The room was a decent size and was clean and although there are no swimming facilities at the hotel you can use the facilities at its sister hotel just up the road. The breakfast was nice, with a choice of full English or continental and the service was attentive. We will definitely stay again.

Hotel really good. The staff could not do enough for you, all very friendly . Food excellent, rooms comfortable. Situated within easy reach of the town and is about 15 mins walk to the Liberation Station (buses) which will take you pretty much anywhere on Jersey.

Great hotel in a great location. Stayed here for 2 nights. Had a top floor room with our own balcony. However this was situated at the back of the hotel, so was a little walk back to the lobby. Has a nice little pub/bar joining the hotel. Parking is a bit tight, but half of the issue is people not being able to park properly! I believe there is an additional parking area as there is only limited spaces at the hotel, but we were lucky enough to get parked. Breakfast was nice enough. Didn't experience evening meal as close to other restaurants. Would stay here again.

Thank you for your wonderful review. We are pleased that your stay was a success. It is wonderful that you found the Royal to be 'excellent all round'. This is a great encouragement for our team at the hotel. We are situated close to the town centre but away from the main night-life areas and as such it does quieten down each evening as you state. Being close to the main high street and the Millennium Town Park is also a plus for many of our guests. We hold a 'Gold' Investor in People Award and we are proud of this fact as we feel it demonstrates our commitment to good communication within our team at the hotel and that this is in turn reflected in higher levels of guest satisfaction. Thank you once again.

We had a great time over 3 nights/4days. Hotel has been refurbed since our last visit. Rooms were light, airy and very clean. We had 25 people staying and I didn't hear a bad word about the service, food or drinks (which were bountiful!). Great night in the Conservatory on the Saturday. Super buffet. Basically - it was faultless. Cheers to Pavel and his crew.

The hotel could not have been more helpful, they arranged our formal gathering in the conservatory, which was a huge success. The hotel rooms were very, very clean and had everything you would have expected a hotel of this standard to provide, the breakfast alone is worth the room rate. The key to this outstanding hotel is the staff, they are so friendly and helpful, nothing appears to be too much effort, They certainly made our stay very enjoyable. We would not hesitate to stay at this hotel when we revisit Jersey.

We stayed for 3 nights, in 2 interconnecting rooms, glad we booked the 2 rooms for our family of 3 as the rooms are quite small. They are dated but very clean. The staff on reception, housekeeping and breakfast were exeptional and made our stay more enjoyable. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice

I booked the hotel via the rewards scheme The Royal Hotel is well situated close to the town and restaurants in St Helier with the town centre some 10-15 minutes walking. The hotel reception area is well laid out and staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms have character and the bath in our room was huge. Breakfast was the standard fayre with plenty of choice although no vegetarian option on the sausages. The staff are great and make the hotel what it is We liked the lounge bar area which served great food also Can't fault the hotel and we had no problems during our stay thank you to the staff at the hotel.

Had a 3 nite stay here last month. The hotel was dated and staff very poor and had no customer skills. On checking in it was regimented like the an army procedure. The lady checking us in had very poor English and we could not understand what she was saying. The food however was excellent and staff friendly. Room very below par with a worn mattress. Never saw the manager once while here. For the price we paid we should of stayed at the grand hotel or elsewhere.

My wife and I stayed for 4 nights HB at the Royal Hotel.,We had stayed there 18 months previously and hoped it would be as good as the first time, we were not disappointed. The bedroom was lovely ,it had a 4 poster bed, a large bath and a balcony. The bed was comfortable and everything was in good order. All the staff were friendly and helpful, could not fault them. The breakfast was very good with plenty of choice. The evening meal was excellent with a varied menu, well presented dishes and all very tasty. An excellent hotel ,short walk into town and it has a small car park which is a bonus for Jersey.

Our room was spacious, well furnished clean as were the hallways, stairs and lift, dining room and lounge.I consider the Royal to be an exceptional 3 star hotel with high standards of service.

We have recently been awarded a Gold Investor In People Award at the hotel and this is a real point of difference for our hotel for so many of our loyal customers and staff. "If you find it hard to walk, don't stay here."

14/10/2015

I didn't know that there was no bus that goes anywhere near this hotel so when they said in the blurb "only .4 miles from the city centre" I had no idea that walking was the 'only' way of getting there apart from a taxi each way. Also, the area was not a very nice area by any sense of the word. Forget the pretty rooms shown in on the Internet, I was given a minute, dark, dingy room which only had ancient, gloomy furniture. I was extremely disappointed. They also don't tell you that, although there is a lift, once you come out of it, you then go on a tour round the building going down long corridors and up or down stairs. Nobody on reception bothered to offer to help me with my bag or show me through the maze to where my room was. I did get lost and wandered around. Room numbers aren't consecutive and are confusing. However, the breakfast was a very nice, ordinary, self service hotel breakfast in pleasant enough surroundings. I didn't have an evening meal in the restaurant but did eat in the bar and the food was good. Service was mostly good but one incident amused me when two French ladies were asked by the non English speaking waiter if they wanted white or brown bread. They didn't understand him so he raised his voice quite loud and asked them again but they still didn't understand. I would have thought that being in Jersey and having a lot of French visitors the first thing to learn for breakfast time would be 'pain' for bread, 'blanc' for white and 'brun' for brown!!!

"A very pleasant comfortable hotel with good food and welcoming staff"

My wife and I stayed for 4 nights. We had a very comfortable room on the top floor (3rd floor). It was warm, good heating, comfortable bed and acceptable bathroom. Shower flow pressure though was not good. The restaurant was excellent, with very good food, large portions and attentive waiters. Public rooms were also clean and comfortable. Bar meals were also excellent I can recommend a stay there. It is also conveniently located for the shopping centre.

"Excellent hotel in St Hellier"

04/10/2015

Although the hotel was geared to an older clientele, we enjoyed our stay. The staff were excellent, friendly and very accommodating. Our room was standard and the bathroom large. We a door out to the balcony area with sunbeds which would have been useful if we'd wanted to stay and relax in the hotel, however we were far to busy exploring the island. Breakfast was excellent with a large selection of hot and cold food and open until 10am which suited our leisurely mornings. If you need a hotel as a base and don't mind walking 10 mins through the town to the bus station and restaurants, this is definitely the place to stay.

The room was clean and well maintained. The bed was comfy. A little bit of traffic noise, but this abated after about 11pm. Food at breakfast was plentiful and well cooked. Service in the restaurant at dinner was excellent. Again the food was well cooked and the menu had new specials each day.

Booked 2 x singles rooms months in advance to find when we arrived that there was only 5 singles and none were nearby each other. The manager went to extraordinary lengths to make sure we had adjacent rooms and even upgraded one of them. The food was good throughout, in the breakfast room, restaurant and bar. We ate here 2 of the 4 nights. All the staff are foreign but exceptionally well mannered and nothing is too much trouble for them. The rooms are tired and dated and yes there are lots of stairs but the hotel has evolved out of 3 seperate buildings, so if mobility is a big issue then this is not the place for you. Would definitely recommend as customer service was outstanding.

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful comments in respect of our staff at the Royal. We really appreciate that you have taken the time to make these comments as a highly experienced reviewer. It is appreciated. We are a team of staff from a mix of nations including Jersey and the UK and we celebrate our diversity, having in addition recently been awarded a Gold level Investor in People Award; so investment in our staff and valuing our team is very important to us. We are a long established hotel and are open year round. Our bedrooms do differ and many are newly decorated, indeed a discreet section of the hotel is off-line for full decoration from this week. Not least because of our town centre location, the Royal has run at near full occupancy for almost six months and with the slightly quieter winter season approaching we have more access to bedrooms to redecorate after such an intensely busy visitor season. It is pleasing that you feel the food was good in respect of breakfast, our Rosette restaurant and within our hotel's informal bar. This feedback, again, is appreciated by our dedicated team. Our catering is freshly prepared by our established kitchen team and we are proud of this fact. Yes, the hotel has evolved over the past 150+ years and this has, in our opinion, led to a more quirky individual style of hotel which elicits opinions and as such is an interesting place to stay. Thank you finally for commenting that customer service is outstanding. This compliment is appreciated and valued and we are so pleased, most importantly, that you enjoyed your stay at the Royal. We hope that you will consider staying with us again should you re-visit the Island at some point in the future.

"Memorable Wedding Anniversary Break"

28/09/2015

Recently returned from a very enjoyable 4 night half board break to celebrate our 45th Wedding Anniversary. Our room was comfortable, clean & spacious, with access to the sun terrace. The evening meals were very good, as were the breakfasts. Location is good, being only a short walk to the shopping streets & restaurants. Management & staff were extremely friendly & efficient. As a pre- arranged anniversary surprise for my wife, they placed wine & chocs in our room, which was greatly appreciated. We will definitely return.

We very much enjoyed our stay. We had a beautiful room over looking the sun terrace. Very peaceful apart from the morning when a cleaner decided to vacuum before eight am. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to Liberation station and less than ten to the main shopping area.
