Normally we like staying at Best Western. However after a 12 hr drive we arrived to be told we did not have a reservation for that night. We had the confirmation, but were told there were maintenance problems and they were sending us to a different hotel, that there were no other rooms available. We had a 2 night reservation as we were attending a wedding. We were told that they had informed us. Yes, at 3pm via email while we were driving and a voice mail left on our home phone. The Mgr said that he would leave a msg for the day Housekeeping mgr to get us into a room early in the day. We had no other option but to go to the other hotel. The next day we arrived as told and had to begin again as nothing had been done, no one could do anything, no one had checked out, and house keeping was "short staffed". All of the "we're sorry" were very insincere and we sat in the lobby for over 2 hours without anyone updating us. We had to ask for any information. So what was to have been a relaxing weekend, ended up being a rushed affair to get to the a wedding on time and totally stressed. There was no relaxing involved. We left a review after the stay with no response of any kind. There are many hotel choices out there. Best Western will no longer be one of ours.
Comfortable and silent room. The pool closes at 22:00 sharp and breakfast ends at 09:00 sharp. Breakfast includes omelette, juices, corn flakes and yogurt as well as bagel with cream cheese and peanut butter. Good parking spaces at the hotel with shades.
Great service very friendly staff and cleanliness of the rooms. I stayed for a few nights and had no complaints
Nice pool and hot tub, great breakfast buffet, and excellent location. Plus the staff is very friendly and helpful.
Fast check-in, helpful staff, clean rooms, huge breakfast, strong internet all made my stay perfect@
It was a great experience staff was very kind and welcoming. They had a ton of accommodations and had the place very clean and smelling great.
There aren't a lot of options ofr hotels in La Mesa and El Cajon. We have stayed at all of them. This hotel has a great location, great hot water, decent breakfast (fruit, yogart, variety of breads, sausage, bacon, eggs, pancakes, etc.), in room coffee/tea. Room is quiet, even though near freeway. Beds comfy, room large and clean, excellent staff. The price is reasonable (for San Diego) and is now our choice when visiting family in La Mesa. Just a good choice.
Spent two nights. Traveled to La Mesa for a family memorial. It appears I paid full price for a facility that is being used as a homeless FEMA voucher facility. There was no available parking as people were using two parking spots for each car. I had to park off site at a family members house. People seem to be smoking marijuana on my floor inside the building. Not a good Best Western experience. I would appreciate a full refund. Terrible experience for $185 USDs per night
I've stayed here a few times over the past month and it has been a delight! Really close to where I was working and the staff was really friendly. I work later in the day and later into the evening and they don't make up the room even after leaving around 10/11am. Other than that, all else was fine.
I had a great stay at this location for the few days i stayed to visit my family in the area which was conveniently closest. The complimentary breakfast items was really good which helped start my day. I will definitely be coming back on make next trip.
We have stayed at this hotel many times pre-pandemic when visiting our son & family and loved it. Rooms were always clean & well maintained. The breakfast was amazing, lots of choices & very helpful staff. The staff at the front desk was helpful in guiding us around San Diego & helping us with my husbands special needs. However, on our first trip back since the pandemic things have gone downhill rapidly!! Staff is very low, but our main complaint was we absolutely could not get anyone to clean our room, bring clean towels, empty our trash, etc. We asked several times & were told it would be done, but it never was. We are very disappointed & will not be returning again. Do not stay here, the service is not worth the price in any way,
Breakfast was wonderful. Definitely not your typical "continental" breakfast that you get at other hotels. Beds were very comfortable. The front desk staff was accommodating when I needed to extend my stay another day.
I've stayed here for years while visiting elderly dad. I'm done staying here and wouldn't recommend. It's very old & basically it's a substandard BW…You get the feeling owners are putting no money back into their investment….It's not we'll run…
Great hotel! Our first room was not great. Smelled and had ants in the bathroom. But they remedied right away and we got a new room and it was way better. Next day saw a worker headed to old room. Looked like they were going to fix those issues. Breakfast awesome! Love the hot options. Coffee was pretty watered down and burnt tasting, but they have an awesome coffee machine in lobby I used instead. Loved going to the hot tub at night. Great price. Glad we stayed!
THE GOOD: Area: Centrally located near a freeway but far enough from the noise. A restaurant and gas station are within walking distance. The hotel is located in a well-to-do area so one doesn't have to worry about crime. Rooms: Remodeled, spacious, and clean with amenities such as frig, microwave, & coffee maker. Large TV selection of channels. Interior: Expresso coffee maker with the option to make free Lattes and Cappuccinos on the side of the reception desk. Elevators, fitness gym, and swimming pool with a spa. Breakfast: Large dining area. Large selection of food such as made-to-order pancakes, bacon, eggs, and sausage. Price: One can look to pay $150.00 to $175.00 per night. THE BAD: The parking spaces are tight, the pool, spa, and one elevator were out of commission. The interior hallways are dated. The late-night reception lady wasn't very friendly.
The location is good and the service was great. There were issues with the bathroom. Leak around the toilet base, no soap in shower dispenser and interference on the television stream programs. Overall a pleasant experience.
The hotel was clean and the staff were very nice. Beds were relatively comfortable and no problems. There are restaurants less than a mile down the road and grocery shopping. Parking is relatively easy.
We once again stayed at the Best Western La Mesa for a trip to San Diego. The hotel is clean, quiet and centrally located. The place is well maintained, clean, quiet and the staff is wonderful. A huge selection of nice breakfast items were provided each morning. There is a 24 hour hot beverage machine in the lobby that was really great.
Front desk lady who checked me in was friendly and welcoming, But everything from the elevator, to the hallway, to the room itself were all DISCUSTING!! the elevator floor was gross, the button to push for room floor was even worse. Upon getting out on my floor (3rd) the hallways were lined with trash bags and coolers. Entering my room it was HOT and smelled like mold, there was a pillowcase on one bed no pillow, the cord for the clock was cut but yet still plugged in and just hanging there with exposed LIVE wires next to the bed. From the time I checked in and booked somewhere else and checked out of this hotel was 20 minutes and that was mostly securing a room elsewhere.
Several problems with room - water in refrigerator, outlets don't work, shower did not work. Breakfast is unpleasant with loud TV, small room, low quality food for California. Staff varies in level of professionalism and politeness.
My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights. We are light sleepers so I asked for a quiet location. This hotel is right next to the freeway but the room they gave us was quite enough for both of us to get good sleep.
Over all, awesome. Price, location. And best the staff. Fun loving family atmosphere. They treated us, that we were someone special. And we are just average joes. The front desk people, we were actually having fun with laughter. That my son actually went down and just talked to them.
If you need safety bars in the bathroom don't stay here! Otherwise the rooms are clean, quiet and furniture in good shape. Bed is a little high and hard. Additional plugs are too loose for charging. Had lots of problems with the tv. The maintenance man was helpful, but has limited hours, so wasn't available when toilet plugged. No plunger available either. Staff is friendly. The location is good so wish the room was better.
Employees making out and being very rude. Great Hotel but couples should not work together. How can any work get done if the employees are out side making out and doing whatever, Manangement need to do something about these employees.
We needed a reasonably priced spot for the night in San Diego area. Found this gem close to restaurants and shopping. We also needed a laundry close by. How about just down the hall from our room! Nice convenience. We also enjoyed the fresh baked cookies at check in.
The hotel was clean. We stayed 4 nights…housekeeping was every other day. Quiet. Staff friendly. Breakfast was good. Wi-fi was terrible. Didn't use the pool or exercise room. We would stay there again.
The room smelled of mold, dirt and weed. The deadbolt on the door didn't lock, there were cobwebs and just didn't feel safe. The front desk attendant was very rude and abrupt. She continued to chew her food, eat and talk while checking us in. We felt like we were an inconvenience to her.
As a business traveler, ease of check in, a quiet and clean room, a comfortable bed, and a healthy breakfast our my priorities. Best Western Plus provided all that and more. The staff was professional and very helpful.
Comfortable hotel with 'normal' Best Western standard. Room was quiet since it was not facing I-15. Other rooms might be noisier. Breakfast was very delicious with a large choice of hot food, cereal, pancake, fruits... The area seems to be safe, but there is not much to do in the neighborhood. The close-by shopping center was mostly closed on a Tuesday evening (7pm)... Room was clean, but I missed the small notepad and pen that used to be in hotel rooms. But they are missing in other hotels, too... Probably cost optimization.
Great Experience , I stayed at the facilities with my wife for a training purpose. Great attention on behalf of the staff. Great service, breakfast, facilities We liked , definitely if travel to the area again we will choose the same facilities.
I really like this La Mesa location.Staff is always friendly and this is now my second maybe third time staying here. Also breakfast is very good here & menu changes daily.I look forward to staying here again.
This Beat Western was very clean and will definitely stay again, the breakfast was excellent. The room was very spacious and the beds were very comfortable, September is always very hot, however the air conditioner in the room kept us cool and comfortable.
I can't believe this place gets any "good" reviews. I had (4) nights booked back in July but checked out after (3) hours. The room was filthy dirty socks in the drawer, blood on the sheets and the bathroom had not been cleaned for quite a while. Management blamed it all on housekeeping DON'T STAY HERE.
Overall the staff was very nice and we enjoyed the breakfast and internet available. I was somewhat disappointed at the lack of attention to detail since there was no toilet paper or soap in the room when we arrived. We were given those things upon request but I personally would have preferred if they were already in the room when we got there.
Excellent Breakfast, Hot & Fresh, Hats off to the Lady working the Breakfast Area, Welcoming Staff! Clean Rooms, Excellent Workers Very Helpful and Respectful! Staff Greeted us every time we walked in.
I was unable to access I could not access my room for several hours due to a problem with the door lock assembly and had to keep going downstairs to get more card keys to see if that would help alleviate the issue
Please do not stay in this hotel. The place is not much better than a Motel 6 and the service is the worst I have ever experienced. The staff doesn't care if you have issues with your room and the cleanliness; it's run down.
Great front desk staff, friendly and attempt to help the best the could. Hot. el had no water, no clean towels. bad experience, I felt bad for family with children, Management not offering any relief at all. Management service was the worst I have ever experience.
There were 4 of us for 2 nights in a 2 queen room. Room was spacious enough for 4 adults, beds were comfortable and the room and bathroom were clean. Appreciated there was a fridge and microwave. The only negative was the room had a balcony, but we could not enjoy it or leave the sliding door open as it faced the freeway, and was therefore quite noisy. With the door closed the noise level was fine. I would not hesitate to stay here again if in the area but would request a different room.
We stayed in Room 229. It is connecting room with a door and we can hear the people next door talking in their normal voice. The mattress in our room was very very very soft. It's like a sink hole and it has like hole in it on the left side of the mattress. I had to sleep on the edge of the mattress and my husband sleep diagonally but still very uncomfortable. We did not ask to change the room because we heard that the hotel was sold out. We paid about $200 per night but the quality of the mattress and bed sheet is below standard for the price we paid. I reported this issue at the front desk at check out and the lady at the front desk was very nice to give us $50 discount.
Great room only negative is very small parking area. We had to ask the restaurant next door to accommodate our moving van. However this was a plus as we discovered Tony's Grotto which had very good food and a pleasant view of lake with ducks.
I really enjoyed my stay at this best western location. The staff was kind and welcoming, the hotel and my room was very clean and comfortable and breakfast was nice and i really enjoyed it. Overall i had a really nice and comfortable stay.
I use this hotel every time I fly from SF to see my brother who is in a nursing home. The staff are wonderful, the rooms well kept and clean, and I like being able to have breakfast here before I start out my day. My trips are about every 5 weeks and its good to know I have a safe place to stay.
The hotel was clean. The beds and pillows were comfortable. The staff was amazing and friendly. The snacks at the front desk were a huge bonus and much appreciated. The huge breakfast was very convenient. We have stayed at many hotels in the past year and this was the only place other than Hawaii that we felt welcomed and at home. The staff was great. When we're back in the area we will definitively stay here again.
I stayed at the Best Western in la mesa for the first time, I was greeted with nicest lady, she made my kids feel excited to see them and she was very out going and friendly. My room was clean and it was a nice size room. My kids loved the full breakfast that was provided each day. Check out was quick and me and my kids had a nice time there. Good job to the staff.
For being a PLUS locations I expected better instead got the worst treatment from any BW. When I show the young man photos of my room he said that the locations was completely booked, and that no cleaning crew on location. When I checked out that gal came up with every excuse possible as why she could not give me a printed copy of my receipt. When i told her of the room and the night clerk she too told me to voice it on the BW site.
First the good news, the staff is great and the breakfast was well done. The bad news, the freeway 8 noise through the sliding glass doors is horrible. The satellite tv is worse. Two days here and they can't get local channels via DirectV. Over the air antenna is free. Management must not be concerned. Also note, the pool and hot tub are outside, at the back of the property. I guess you're supposed to undress once you get there.
The lobby was tastefully decorated for the Holidays and the front desk staff were welcoming and efficient. Our room was nicely appointed, comfortable and sparkling clean. The location is a bit noisy if one wanted to keep the windows open, but that's because it's right off the freeway. However, the easy access was a plus for us and very quiet with the windows closed. There were several choices of restaurants within short walking distance. We will use them again when visiting family.
Hotel was staff were very nice. The room was clean and beds comfortable. Breakfast was really good, full breakfast with many options. The only thing we did not like was parking, if you drive anything larger than a Mini Cooper plan to be back at the hotel before 7 as parking is VERY small. We had to go in and ask what were to do since there are MANY signs noting NOT to park at the restaurant next door and they advised we simply park at the electric charging stations they have.
The staff was very helpful the breakfast was good and the staff that cooked the breakfast were very nice and helpful the Hotel is dated my room smelled like a x smoking room the hotel is located next to the freeway so all I heard all night long was the vehicles traveling up and down the freeway
Really nice location to access Interstate 8 both east and west. CA 94 into the SD downtown, CA125 to go south-bay are easily access via Bancroft. Standard family restaurants nearby and a major shopping center about a mile down Murray. Hot breakfast bar is back! And has proteins as well as the standard sorts of starches. Smell of bacon permeates the floor and can be smelled from the passing elevator. Yum! Had a double queen and the bed selected was a bit soft for our taste.
It is completely beyond me how this hotel (dive) could receive the rating it has. Somethings is very suspicious about this. Some of us rely on trip Advisor ratings. Do NOT rely this time. The place is absolutely filthy. I booked in advance and requested a first floor. When I arrived there was nothing on 1st floor even though I booked a week in a advance. The receptionist told me that they “decide on room locations on that day”, which makes no sense whatsoever. I told the receptionist it made no sense. Bad move because another guest happened to witness the receptionist keying my car in the middle of the night (you give your license plate, remember?) Well we discovered just how filthy this place was AFTER we returned home ( it was the only place we had stayed in 18 months). Yes, bed bugs. Something you don't discover until a good week after you get home. We had to pay $600 to have our home exterminated. I met a woman in the elevator who was leaving the hotel in the middle of the night because of the filth and because her room was invested. Stay at this hotel at your own risk. It should be torn down.
I would not recommend this hotel. I stayed here quite often prior to covid and was horrified how run down and dirty the place was. the lobby floors were super dirty, the elevator floor were gross and sticky, hallway was smelly, the room door was open when I got there which I thought was weird. the bathroom was gross, hair in the shower, toilet was dirty, sheets looked used, bed cover was super wrinkled....not coming back
We arrived at the hotel at 215pm after a long, tiring trip but we weren't allowed to check-in & was told to come back at 3pm (their check-in time), so we just roamed around the area & came back at past 3pm. We were assigned our 2 booked rooms only to find out with great dismay & disappointment that both rooms were super-duper dirty, nasty & uncleaned- with towels all over & beer bottles & food trash on counter top & topsy-turvy bed linens!!! I complained at the desk & were assigned different rooms which are horribly dusty & dirty. My wife found a single pair of white rubber glove behind a dirty coffee cups counter! A bottle cap & chips wrapper on the floor! Dusty air conditioner & very dirty chair!!! TV not working!!!! The manager apologized & promised to deduct $50 on 1st night but never did, we were billed the same full amount! Never ever are we going back to this horrible & very poorly managed hotel!!!!
Manager is useless. He refused to speak to me when I asked to see him regarding a problem in the room. I travel with my mom, who is 88 yrs old, and requires a step in shower. The shower's drain was backed up, and we had to change rooms while it was corrected, and then change back again. They also changed the quoted amount when we checked in. ($50.00 more).
In 5 days our room was only cleaned one time. The first night, I will concede, there may have been some miscommunication, but the other days, NO. Our towels, which we had to collect daily at the front desk ourselves, continued to pile up as well as our garbage. We addressed this with the front desk but once that happened, service got worse. All but 2 of the electrical outlets were all non-working so we had to buy our own extension cords to power/charge our devices. Corporate seemed to be concerned with our issues but the local management seemed to retaliate and service got worse for the rest of our stay. This is the type of service I expect from a Motel 8 NOT Best Western.
room key didn't work in door or pool. locked out of room and pool area once per day during my 3 day stay toilet paper floating in bowl when I first checked into the room toilet would not stop running (broken valve) charged me more than my reservation confirmation showed (eventually fixed) heat lamp in bathroom was burned out and not replaced after requested 3 times
This was a rather hurried trip in order to be with a family member. Needless to say I should have paid better notice to other reviewers remarks which you normally take with a grain of salt. This stay was during the 4th of July weekend. Granted I was expecting them to be busy but did that mean routine room cleaning have to suffer? Upon check in I was not informed that I had to come to the front desk to specifically request a “full” or “partial” room cleaning! Therefore,I was quite surprised that soiled towels and garbage had not been removed and the bed not made after the first night. I was informed by the operator what “the request for ANY services required a trip downstairs to inform the front desk of what was needed because they were low staffed”. She said she would take my request as it was late at night and I didn't want to go down in my nightwear! I skipped mentioning this to the front desk the next day as there was only one person managing a busy front desk and I couldn't wait. Upon return my room had not received any room service. It took 3 notifications before my room had a “partial” service? There was no notice that things had been modified for Covid. I overheard a guest mention the hotel was overbooked. Also my room faced the freeway, my own fault for not reading that it was “right off the I8 freeway”. This was my first time traveling away from home since Covid. The room was clean initially but dark, the sockets to plug in electronics were within the lamp fixtures by the bed but very loose and not usable. The one plug available was across the room and I had to pull out the ironing board to sit my electronics close enough for charging. I normally love staying at a Best Western plus facility but this stay did not meet my expectations even when I allowed for the possibility things may be different due to the pandemic. I requested an earlier departure than what was originally planned. It was most unfortunate. One good thing was the full breakfast was made available and that was a nice feature.
I'm now in BestWestern's highest loyalty program tier. I stay at this hotel frequently because of it's location and I've previously rated it 4 stars. But I recently completed a stay of 3+ weeks and it is was not the same experience under new management. Before I go further, I want to note that this is a 3 star review; not 1 star. The hotel is comfortable, the fitness center is now open, the full hot breakfast was reinstated, and the staff continues to provide friendly service. That said, it has gone downhill under new management. First, as is obvious by just looking at hallways, they do NOT have "industry leading cleaning practices". Moreover, as I found out upon returning to my room in the evening to find the towels not replaced and the trash not empty, management says maid service is now "only on request". I was not told that on check-in and there was no sign posted (note: toward the end of my stay, new guests were being advised of the polcy on check-in). Managment claims the policy is due to COVID, but that is factually false. When I stayed in March under previous management, and with COVID more prevalent than in June, there was maid service every day. Additionally, California had just relaxed COVID restrictions on the 15th of June and the maid policy remained in place. So it can only be a cost-saving measure. Aside from the maid policy, the hotel is again starting to show its age after the renovation some time back. For example, the power outlets in the rooms are so loose they will not securely hold a plug. And the internet is frustrating - it cuts out every 24 hours and requires a new login. Despite all that, I will continue to stay here due to the location, but if other options open up in the area I'll definitely have to reconsider if the management and amenities issues aren't improved.
Had to ask for another room as duvet and mattress pad big time lumpy! Key cards didn't work and had to be replaced multiple times. Carpet dirty particularly in hallways. Parking stall were not wide enough. Breakfast was pretty bad.
This is a great hotel in an awesome, convenient location, right next to Anthony's Fish Grotto Restaurant and near the 8 Freeway. The room overlooked the pool and jacuzzi and the lake at Anthony's. The bed and pillows were so comfortable, we had our best sleep in months there!!
This property has a great location. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The amenities and services available cover most needs. The rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable. We have been coming here for years.
Surprised by lack of cleanliness of the restroom and the bedding. Staff was “put out” when we'd ask for more coffees, etc. we were hardly there but I will say the night staff was far more hospitable than the day staff at the front desk. We had an expectation because of previous stays, keeping in mind the Covid changes, the hotel staff could've been more helpful-we avoided asking for things even though it should have been a given since it's included in the amenities and the price we paid. We could've found a better value for our money.
Was told that a mask must be worn at all times in the lobby even if we are just walking out, I also witnessed that same employee watch 7 different people with no mask in the lobby and also assist someone in the lobby. There was no house keeping for the entire stay until I called the last night and requested it, would see housekeepers on the floor everyday but they never came in.
The trip was short so we just needed a place to clean up and sleep after the beach and before the next day, Room had enough space if not the best space we have ever had at many hotels for our large family of 6. 2 big beds and two sofa's, a kitchenette and bar to eat at. They had some stuff that needed to be fixed in the bathroom and not enough towels for such a large rooom but Staff was friendly andhelpfuland it was a quick and simple check in\\ check out.
I was very dissatisfied with our stay at this Best Western. I let the staff know of the torn sofa and ottoman, broken closet door, mold in bathroom, loose bathroom tile, tub had a hole and covered with tape, and window lock broken. Motel 6 might be a better option.
We arrived an hour after the posted check-in time of 3:00, and were asked to come back in a half-hour. There were no towels in the room, which we didn't discover until later that night, and they didn't have anyone available to bring us some, so my son went to get them. They gave us two towels, two washcloths and a hand towel for the three of us. We eventually got more when the room was cleaned. Even though we left the room by 9 a.m. most days, there were two days where our room wasn't cleaned. The COVID-style sack breakfast was disappointing, to say the least. The hot breakfast on day one was a Jimmy Dean microwave sandwich. Nothing else. On most mornings, the hot option was already gone by 8:00. The cold option was either a weird cupcake/muffin or a Danish, squeeze applesauce and a yogurt. On a few mornings, even that was already gone. The kids' breakfast was a cup of cereal, applesauce and a yogurt; however, if you asked for chocolate milk to drink, they wouldn't give you milk for your cereal. No plates provided to microwave the sandwiches, so we ended up using the brown bags. After a year of this, you would think they would have some sort of system. And with Costco being just over the hill, there's no excuse for constantly running out of food. We were originally scheduled to check in on a Saturday, but had to push it to Sunday, due to a medical emergency. The front desk told us it would be no problem, which it wasn't, until we realized at the end of our stay that they had pushed our entire reservation back a day, and we were charged for an extra night on the back end (which explains why we didn't get to do the quick checkout). The front desk person didn't say anything about us presumably checking out early, and we weren't given a receipt. We didn't realize the mistake until the charge hit our credit card several days later. I contacted the hotel and they refunded us fairly quickly. The room itself was decent, although the freeway noise was pretty loud, even with the A/C on. The staff, for the most part, were reasonably friendly, if not overly helpful. It's conveniently located right next to the freeway and just over the hill from a major shopping center with lots of restaurants. It's by far not the worst place we've ever stayed, but a few customer service oriented tweaks (like having ample breakfast for all, every day), making sure rooms are clean and stocked, and having rooms ready on time for weary travelers would have gone a long way toward making us want to stay there again.
Cant say how glad I am that I stayed at this property. The outside is very welcoming and clean. Upon entering the lobby I was greeted by a nice lady that made check in a piece of cake. Even thru this pandemic, the hotel is taking all the precautionary steps to make sure all guest are safe. I booked a king bed with a sofa bed and was very impressed on how clean and well appointed the whole room was. The bed was so comfortable and we even had a little private balcony that was great to use because it allows us to sit outside and get some fresh air while keeping a safe distance from our next door neighbor. Overall I give this hotel a 10/10. Its definitely a great value for your money. Its near the freeway, restaurants, and anything you could need is a 5 min drive away. I'm already looking forward to my next stay.
This is an older but very well maintained property. The staff go out of their way to make your stay memorable. Easy to find and access. The nearby Anthonys Fish Grotto is one of the outstanding places to dine in the San Diego area.
I booked this hotel for my grandma and she has been very pleased with the service and the way they go above and beyond for her. They have great customer service and they help us with everything that we asked of them.
The hotel is older but the rooms were large and clean, this area is more residental but there are a few resteraunts with in walking distance. The person who checked me in wasn't overly friendly, didn't really explain breakfast, or really anything
I was pleasantly surprised by how nice my recent stay was at the Best Western in La Mesa. It's an older building, but my room provided me everything I needed and was very comfortable. The front desk staff were very professional and attentive, they made it easy to enjoy my visit.
it was one of the best and cleanest hotel i have stayed at this year. we had a small problem with the plumbing but maintenance was up to fix it within 10 minutes, very impressed. i would stay here again next time i am in the area.
This place was clean, staff was friendly and everything was local. Was greeted with smiles from everyone. First time staying and enjoyed it. Definetly will recommend to family and friends. Will return with the kids.
This place is a joke I don't recommend anybody staying here I was here with my family on a business trip with my husband as he worked right here in San Diego and I would book rooms for four days at a time so before checkout I am in my room they come to my room banging on my door telling me that I have to check out and leave somebody has reserved my room and kicked me and my family out on the curb we had to throw all our bags out and be out by certain time (which they gave us 30 minutes )or they said they were going to call the cops on us It was so racist unfair it was a disgrace this place is just awful and the people here they talk to you like crap they're rude and the manager she doesn't even care about you or Even kids even kids she just kicked us out Without a care in the world without a care in the world I would not stay here!!!!! These are some pictures I took of how they just kicked us out into the parking lot on the curb ME AND MY KIDS ! AND I HAVE A 3 MONTH YEAR OLD BABY! So from the curb I had to call check into another hotel get an Uber or Rent-A-Car and do all this outside on the street!!
We have been travelling to this area for 15 years and watched the renovation happening when Best Western took over management. This was the first opportunity we had to stay at this property since they don't allow pets. After being checked in by rude staff we quickly discovered the property had not actually been renovated. Carpets were worn, ancient plumbing did not function well and the place had an overall aura of disrepair. There are much better options in this area.
I traveled with my baseball group and was able to use the hot tub both nights I was there and nobody except me and my teammates were in the pool area for an hour each night. The complimentary breakfast was also exactly what we needed to start our long day. Express check in and out with no hidden fees. Highly recommended venue
Recently stayed at the Best Western Plus in La Mesa. I had no trouble parking, was allowed to check in when I got there early afternoon. My room was on the freeway side and I did not have noise issues, though someone who is sensitive might. I got a nice little goody bag when I checked in. The breakfast was well laid out with eggs, sausage, pancakes, cereal or 100 calorie Greek yogurt. You could easily find low carb options. Would choose this hotel anytime.
The staff and breakfast are fantastic. We checked in around 11pm. I sent an email prior to arrival and recieved a response that my request for late check in was accepted. Everything was set up for us.
If you need to be by the beach this isn't for you but anywhere else and this is a really great hotel as it is right on the freeeway in Mission Valley conviniently next door to Anthiny;s Seafood Grott, which has a lighted duck fille lake and does lakeside dining. Parking is easy and ample, the hotel staff are really nice and helpful abd the rooms are always very clean, but the breackfasts are exceptionak with a wide range of options and an eggs, bacon,m sausasage option that varies daily.
This is the perfect place to stay in San Diego county. Close to freeways, downtown El Cajon and shopping centers. Restaurants in walking distance. Great breakfast and good size rooms. Staff is friendly and helpful.
The hotel is very clean and comfortable. It's conveniently located right off of Interstate 8, which makes it easy to travel around the San Diego area. It's a good value for the money. The bed and furniture were comfortable. The breakfast offerings were good, with a number of different breakfast items available.
The hotel has gotten a renovation, and it looks very nice , the elevator was out for a short while, they have 2 so it was not a bother. Breakfast is great, staff friendly. You get cookies and a water bottle when checking in. Enough parking and feels safe. The room was good maybe the carpet needs to be updated as well. All and all it was a good stay the internet was the down fall for me on the 4th floor. You have 2 restaurants a few steps from the lobby. Close to get to the highway and centres nearby . Would stay again.
This was my first time staying at a Best Western. Great value!! Friendly staff! Clean and safe. They compare to other more expensive hotel chains. Really enjoyed the small touches like the cookies, yum! I will seek out Best Westerns in the future.
The staff at this hotel was exception - they were very efficient and made friendly. If you stay here be sure to ask for a room away from the freeway end. The rooms are tired and need to be update/graded.
Stayed 4 nights at this Best Western. Clean room, lobby could use upgrade, standard breakfast -however staff kept all trays stock at all times. Wi-Fi was absolutely terrible - they sent a maintenance person up to help when I could not connect - he suggested I stand in the hall-way for better access. Signal was dropped a lot.
If you're looking for good, straightforward accommodations in La Mesa or El Cajon, the Best Western Plus is a good choice. Clean comfortable room and nice amenities, decent breakfast buffet and friendly staff for a reasonable price.
I am regular at the Best Western Properties but this was my first stay in the San Diego area and I was mighty impressed with this property. The room was quite spacious with all the basic amenities provided including a Fridge and Microwave. The property also has a Gym that once can access 24X7. The breakfast options provided were pretty good with a wide variety of options available even for a Vegetarian like me. One can choose from a plethora of fruits, cereals, bagels, yogurts, omelets, burritos (of the make your own variety), pan cakes, Muffins, et al. The list is even bigger for non-vegetarians. Finally, the service provided by the staff was top-notch and especially the Lady in charge of the Breakfast was extremely helpful and friendly. It was one of my best stays in my recent visit to the US and I will remember this for a very long time. And if by any chance, my work brings me here back to San Diego, I will surely come back. Cheers Sriram
Overall a great place to stay. The Internet was not broad-spectrum enough to do streaming or conferencing. At peak times it was slow and had to reconnect several times In our room the button that turns the bed lamps on took a lot of pressure was very difficult.
Good for the value. Clean, friendly and helpful staff, full breakfast and tasty, comfortable beds. Would stay again. Good location. Easy access from freeway and 15 minutes to downtown, mission/fashion valley, and the east county casinos
We stayed here because I had surgery. Pillows were accidentally stained. We were charged for them. It wasn't intentionall. I know its still my fault but a hotel chain this size should at least be able to write it off.
This is a upscale, older hotel that is well maintained. Our room was spacious with upgrade lighting and carpeting. The walls had wallpaper instead of just paint and 6" crown molding. It's not new but its patina shows class. There is even undercover parking. Breakfast was excellent with good fruit and yogurt as well as the usual eggs, biscuits & gravy, danish and so on. This is a good one despite it being difficult to find the right driveway. We'll know next time.
Love the free breakfast and bottled water and cookies when you check in. There is also fresh fruit in the lobby. The staff is very nice and helpful. I love that they call you once in your room to see if everything is ok with your room.
We stayed at this hotel while visiting family in Lakeside CA. We have tried 2 other Best Westerns closer to my daughter's house but both were very disappointing. This hotel will be our destination from now on.
The hotel is a very well manage with a very friendly staff and a excel management team I recommend anyone who wants to get your moneys worth, the price for the night are very affordable and the hotel even do is not a new building is impecable and very well maintained I have stay in this locations many times for pleasure and business I enjoy every single time Free WiFi, breakfast, water daily fruit and laundry if you convine all together you will save some money Love BW plus La Mesa
Great stop on my honeymoon. Treated great. Staff very professional. Room, internet all was great Will probably stay at a Best Western on all our trips now. Bed was extremely comfortable and clean. You will not be dissatisfied
I was in town for business and I really enjoyed the space that a room with a King Size Bed offers. The work-space was more than adequate and the amenities available were perfect. The gym equipment was versatile enough for me to get a complete workout and it was all in very good condition. I really enjoyed the selection from the breakfast room. Made to order pancakes, scrambled eggs, omelets and pastries are just a few of the items on the menu. I also appreciated the in room fridge and microwave. The hotel location makes it simple to get on the highway be anywhere in town in just minutes,
I would like to thank Heather Williams and the staff at the BW plus lemon grove! Their customer service was top notch!! The breakfast was outstanding! The room was spacious and homey with a fridge, coffee pot and microwave. The maids were delightful!! The welcome cookie was great. The weight room and laundry was great as well. I like the way there was a smokers patio out back most places don't have them. I will defiantly stay again and recommend this hotel to everyone!!
Everyone was very helpful during our stay. The room was clean and comfortable. It is a bit overpriced for the type of facility that it is.The pool was not heated but it was hot out so it was pleasant. There was a hot tub that the kids got in, but I didn't try it.
Great staff very friendly and helpful. We arrived late at night, during our drive our a/c started acting up and the front desk guy notice we were drenched with sweat and gave us bottled water even before starting the check in process. Room was clean and breakfast had very good selection. Very close to Walmart in case you forget something for the trip.
We had one of our 4 nights that there was a loud party going on so we could not sleep, other than that it was a perfect vacation. Very helpful staff. We had a problem with our television and the maintenance was there to correct it in literally 5 minutes. The breakfast was great with eggs and bacon every morning. Front desk staff was helpful, courteous and friendly every time we interacted with them.
We got upgraded to a suite instead of a king bed. They gave us fresh cookies & cold water bottles as soon as we checked in. Room was extremely spacious & pleasant with 2 TV's & two beds, one queen & one king.
easy access off the freeway. staff was very pleasant and helpful with questions and directions we had asked for. would definitely stay there again. breakfast was better then expected. everything there "from soup to nuts" hot food was hot & cold food was cold. and the food was tasty!
A clean room, excellent service and good value. Breakfast was excellent, and always plenty of food and space to eat (3 hrs on week days/4 hrs on weekends). Right off the highway (I-8) so that was the only downfall. A bit of traffic noise. Bring earplugs! Staff was very friendly and accommodating!
I'm a Best Western fan. I appreciate the friendliness of the staff, the free breakfast, the free wi-fi. The parking is a little tight. If they widened the slots, the cars would be able to park between the lines and not take up two spots, which a lot of the SUVs need to do.
We stayed at the BW La Mesa for a few days this last week. We stay here pretty much every time we come to San Diego. We have always had great customer service, good breakfasts and the rooms are clean. The noise issue isn't a concern as long as you leave your window closed which blocks out most and you can turn on the A/C or fan for even more blockage. My only concern is that I am starting to see wear and tear on the property that is not being addressed. For instance, our shower was little more than a trickle, but, clearly you could see that it had been malfunctioning for a while because the ceiling was stained and paint was bubbling up and the toilet sprayed more water when flushing it than the shower did when using it yet nothing had been done to repair! It's just some little things that can be easily fixed but will start to drive people away if neglected! The beds are comfy and the cookies and water at check in are nice after a long drive! For the money, it is still a good choice!
Nice place and very convenient to I-8. But has noise issues off the freeway, as well as the party crowd that hangs out on the east side the hotel after the bars close next door. Request a room on the west side the building. That might help.
I stay at this hotel frequently due to teaching in San Diego. The hotel is uncomfortably close to Interstate 8 so if you get any room on the highway end of the hotel, the noise will be substantial. If you use the pool or hot tub, you have to walk back to the front of the hotel to re-enter, a slightly irritating arrangement that could be easily corrected with a room key entrance to the rear exit. The area seems really safe so I'm unclear why the door is exit only. The breakfast is always really good and other than the noise, the hotel is very comfortable. The cookies at the checkin are excellent.
The room has a bed, and the location has a free breakfast but that is the only nice things I can say. There is very limited parking, less parking spaces than room in the hotel. The clothes washer was broken for 90% of my stay (the time I needed it). The work out room was crap. Multiple nights I was approached by homeless individuals as I walked in from my car to the lobby. I was supposed to be at this hotel for 45 night for work, I got my company to change hotels only 8 nights in because of how awful it was.
I grew up in San Diego but decided to stay here. I didn't want to stay downtown or near the airport or tourist areas.I have family in the San Diego east county area. Wanted a hotel within a reasonable drive.I have always had good stay at Best Western properties. Luis the desk clerk on duty when I checked in was very friendly and helpful my entire stay. He gave directions to places to shop, eat, and find my way around some without using freeways. whenever I needed anything answered. . The breakfast buffet was pretty good. Eggs, fresh fruits, meats, tortillas, pancake machine that made 2 at a time, cereals, assorted breads and muffins, juices, milks, coffee. It was always nice and hot. Something for everyone if a big or small eater. Sandra took care of the buffetweekdays. She kept everything full, area clean, and was friendly and helpful. I enjoyed my breakfast. day. Grossmont Center is close by. Many stores from Walmart to dept stores to dollar and a drug store. A good selection of eating places there and close by. The hotel is near a busy freeway so it gets noisy. Think noise level in room depends on what side of hotel you are on. I think it was pretty quiet on the third floor back end where I was. The room was nice with a queen bed, sofa, table, desk, and arm chair. Bathroom decent size. Nice closet with mirrored sliding doors. Had a ironing board, iron, and hair dryer for use. Had a small refrigerator and microwave so could keep sodas and water in the room . Bed was comfortable.am . Housekeeping was good. The room was clean and the bathroom was very clean. There was a convenience type area set up in lobby to purchase snacks and water. Parking seemed adequate with outdoor lot. If you don't like freeways or their noise you might not like it. For friendly service, a good clean room with amenities, and don't like downtown, stay here. The hospitality was great. I will definitely stay here again next time I come to town.
The hotel was in a great location. Luis was very helpful and polite checking us in. Complementary water and cookies given at arrival.Room was clean. Beds were very comfortable. Breakfast had a good selection of food. Definitely recommend and will stay again.
We decided to stay at this hotel because it had good ratings on another platform but it is right on the freeway and the freeway noise is the loudest by far that I've ever heard at a hotel. Plus the halls and room have an unpleasant odor. Stay somewhere else.
This Best Western is a nice hotel, and a good value and convenient location. It can be noisy because the hotel is right next to the freeway, Interstate 8, but, aside from that, I have no complaints. The breakfast in the morning was fine, with a variety of breakfast items. All in all, a good value for the money.
After a surprisingly taxing journey it was nice to get into a clean comfortable bed to end the day. Easy to find. Not far from a place to eat after checking in, so no more driving after and a gas station to use close by to start the next day.
This hotel is great and we will be staying here again on our next visit to SD. Rooms were clean. Staff was sweet and caring. Breakfast was great. Large variety of items to choose from. I have nothing bad to say about this place.
We flew in from Seattle and stayed a week here then went to Yuma. On our return to San Diego we looked at other places to stay and determined this motel was the best value so we stayed here before flying back home. Friendly staff, spotless clean facility and great full breakfast with several choices of meat.
Great people , great place to stay! I wouldn't stay anyplace else for business. If there is any problems, both Sergio and Jefe our there to solve any problem you may have 24/7. There are great places to eat all within walking distance to the hotel.
Was in San Diego for a funeral. It is a remodeled older hotel and offers all the comforts of a comparable Hampton Inn by Hilton. The breakfast is very good. They have an automated pancake machine instead of a waffle machine. It's new to me and very convenient. There is a nice outdoor pool and a small fitness center on the second floor. My room (411) was spacious and clean with coffee maker, larger than usual fridge and a microwave. Ironing board, iron and hair dryer are located in the closet. A fish restaurant is right next door and Walmart is about five minutes away by car.
All I have to say it Chad Chad you are tha maaan! This guy went above and beyond. He even noticed that I was Christian and said God bless you. Amazing Amazing. He gave out cookies and bottles of water. Even chatted with me a bit. He is in school and working, great guy with a great future, I must say. Breakfast shenanigans is all I have to say....Amazing, my kids and I were so excited, pancake maker ❤❤ bacon PERFECT, I could literally cry about this amazing spead of goodness.
Staff very friendly and room and hotel very clean. Breakfast was great. There was a lot of options. The only negative was that they wouldn't take cash for the room. Easy location to get to and it was close to my daughter university.
We arrived to a very pleasant welcome. We were given bottles of water and fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. The room was clean, beds comfortable, and a refrigerator. The room was very quiet no noise from the hallway or outside. Location was great; close to the interstate. Would stay there again when in town.
This hotel isn't quiet at all. From being able to hear people in the parking lot from your room to the upstairs neighbors sounding like drunk elephants stomping, it was rather noisy. The pool and hot tub are also outdoors. Not a huge deal but when you have to cross the parking lot to get there, kinda sketchy. All those things aside, it was a very clean hotel and the customer service was excellent.
I must admit that my hotel chain of choice is the Hilton family of hotels but after staying here, I have to put this place toward the top! I've stayed at Best Westerns before but this is a "Plus" so everything here is big improvement and has nicer amenities right down to better quality soap/shampoo in the bathroom! The room is on par with all of the other upscale hotel chains and features a very comfortable mattress! The only knock is where my room was located on the 4th floor I was getting a considerable amount of road noise off the freeway. All-in-all, this a great property.
The employee who checked us in was super friendly and very pleasant to talk to. The hotel has good choices of food for breakfast. The rooms are nice and clean with comfortable beds. Overall, we had a very nice experience at this hotel! Will definitely be returning!
This hotel was an extremely good value for the price. Clean, comfortable room with a nice TV. But the best value of all was the breakfast which was included in the price. The hot food selection was unbelievable with very high quality.
We have stayed at this hotel multiple times to visit our grandchildren. The rooms are always nice, the breakfast is always good and we always enjoy our stay. We would highly recommend this Best Western.
Had overnight stay on business in La Mesa and enjoyed my over night at this hotel. Very clean room and very nice staff. Breakfast was good, just wish they offered waffles also but food was tasty. Welcome at arrival with fruit, cookies and bottles of water, can go wrong cause the service is great.
Can't go wrong with the property. Everyone I encountered was pleasant, welcoming, efficient and courteous. My room was comfortable and the breakfast was complete. I was unfamiliar with the area and was pleasantly surprised. Close to the freeway and right next door was a fantastic seafood restaurant with an outdoor tiki bar area facing a lake. Good cocktails. Anthony's Sea Food Grotto. Very easy walk back to my room and giant flat screen tv to enjoy. I'll be returning next year.
Very nice hotel, comfortable beds, great service, breakfast was good. Conveniently located near San Diego (minutes away) and near El Cajon where I was visiting. Appreciated the in room microwave and refrigerator!!
Comfey & clean with awesome service & staff. Beds are almost like home. The staff is always pleasant and available to help. They know of good restaurants & shopping. Their great with directions. I just wish the pool was heated.
Awesome room, staff and breakfast. Best ever hotel. I've stayed at other BEST WESTERN hotels but never as great as this one . I think I liked the greeting of checking in th most. They make you feel special. They had fresh chocolate chip cookies and bottled water to give you when checking in. They also provide fresh fruit in the lobby. Rooms have very comfortable beds and clean rooms.
My Mom and I stayed for the second time at this hotel, and would definitely stay here again. I especially appreciated Orchid at the front desk, she was very helpful and friendly as we were there for 4 days. Our room was really clean and fresh every day. The staff in the breakfast room did a great job keeping everything well stocked. Only down side was freeway noise, next time I'll ask for a room on the other side. I highly recommend this location.
From the moment we walked into the lobby until our check out 2 days later we were impressed the entire stay. The front desk staff were always cheerful, had excellent hospitality skills and seemed to truly care about the comfort of our stay. The room was neat as a pin, the a/c was running and greeted us with a nice cool room. Everything was modern, clean & in working order. The shower/restroom were immaculate. The complimentary bathing essentials were of nice quality. The beds were comfortable and welcoming after a long, hot, busy day at an outdoor event. I wish more Best Western properties modeled themselves after the Best Western Plus La Mesa. Thank you for a wonderful stay! This will be our property of choice when returning to the La Mesa/Chula Vista Area.
We stayed at this BW for one night. From the time we arrived, until we checked out, the customer service at the reception desk was efficient and friendly. Ayerim, in particular, was a joy to work with as she was very accommodating and helpful. The room was clean and updated.
Perfect location and great parking. Very safe location. Accessible to freeways, restaurants and shopping centers.. Great staffs. with great choices of food. Free breakfast was like being in an expensive buffet restaurant. I definitely recommend this hotel.
Perfect experience. Super friendly front desk staff that would help ask all questions and then some. Older hotel, but very well kept. Landscaping, Flowers, Cleanliness, and a Good Price. For sure I will stay here again.
Nice hotel for the price, nothing fancy, just clean and close to Lake Murray. We just needed somewhere to sleep while visiting family in San Diego. Nothing extraordinary nor nothing negative, just average. Close to freeway and colleges.
I am so glad I stayed here! We were here for 6 days for a softball tournament. The rooms were clean, the staff was amazing, the amenities were fantastic and it's close to everything you could need! I would definitely stay here again and I'd recommend this hotel to anyone who needs a place to stay if you're down this way! And the lobby always smells like fresh baked cookies!
It's horrible experience. I never had this kind of experience with any of my hotel stay. Cleaning services staff stealing your stuff from your bags. And they do it on your last day, next day you leave so they can't get caught. Plz plz plz be careful and you have plenty of choice in that town. Good luck .
On par with HGI and Courtyards and even a better value for me. Clean, modern, friendly staff, free breakfast, WiFi and parking. 15-20 minutes from Zoo and Seaworld. I will not stay at an overpriced, dirty and noisy hotel just because it's closer to attractions. This place was wonderful for the value and great for families. I would stay here again hands down.
We have stayed in La Mesa Best Western Plus for 4 nights and our experience was very good. It is maybe older hotel, but for the price excellent! Very clean and they had great hot breakfast. We were very satisfied and would probably stay there again when we visit San Diego next time.
First time in La Mesa. Enjoyed my stay at Best Western. Good price, clean room, staff was very friendly, breakfast was included (wide variety of food), close to restaurants, and the highway. Small observation but not a deal breaker... the swimming pool and Jacuzzi was small and did not look maintained very well, however maybe just the time of season I visited. I will definitely stay here again I ever return to La Mesa :)
I read about this hotel on trip advisor and it got good reviews. In fact it is a nice quiet hotel on the inside but the freeway noise is horrendous. Unfortunately the hotel is in a dip and all night long you hear cars motorcycles and rigs accelerating or decelerating. I wear ear plugs and have white noise on my phone but I still heard it. If freeway noise doesn't bother you it's a great hotel. The complimentary breakfast is excellent. There is fresh fruit in the lobby and coffee day and night
My usual hotel in La Mesa area was full being so close to a college at graduation, but I was lucky to get a reservation here. Good breakfast, clean, well decorated, and very good location. Never bothered by road noise either. Just a little expensive for my budget, but very worth it. How wonderful to have amother great choice in east San Diego county. Would love to stay here again.
The hotel is about 20 miles from San Diefo. We enjoyed our stay at hotel. It was a clean facility with good breakfast options. Parking is free and is easily available. Nearby shopping places includes Walmart, restaurant, etc.
rooms were clean, front desk staff very friendly, breakfast service was well maintained. Being alone - the one concern was walking to the restaurant next door, which was recommended by staff and I did receive 10% off my take out meal - my concern was the walking between properties - the walkway was dark, right on the street - I don't often get spooked but I did that evening. The next night I ate before I got back to the motel. Take a flashlight. The entrance/exit is one and the same - it is a tight turn from the street. In general I felt safe
Comfort, affordable, great location in the La Mesa area. Great breakfast, quiet rooms, clean, service was great. Their was a great restaurant next door, convenient, great access to freeway. Would stay again.
We have stayed here three times for the location and for the comfort. Hotel is above standard. Beds extremely comfortable; room spacious; breakfast satisfactory. We will always stay here when in this area.
Friendly staffs, clean hotel, and accessible to freeway. Breakfast is comparable to a buffet restaurant. Hotel price was very affordable and inexpensive. This is my second time to stay here and I'll make this hotel as my regular stay when I visit family in San Diego.
Our fourth stay here. Convenient stop for visiting East San Diego area families. Remodeled and still fresh looking. Free chocolate cookies and bottled water at check-in. Easy access to HWY 8 driving to beaches, Zoo, Balboa Park, airport, makes this location less expensive than downtown locations. Complimentary full breakfast, hot eggs, hot breakfast meat, push-the-button-fresh pancakes, yogurt, juice, choice of breads, cereal, fruit, and coffee. Strong free WiFi and convenient free business center for printing needs. Little highway noise IF you keep sliding balcony door closed. Restaurants few feet from entrance. Friendly service personnel everywhere.
Came in to stay with my colleagues for work almost a week. The hotel itself is just beautiful. My room was quiet, never had any issues with other guests which I run into a lot. Thank you so much to your staff for being the best. I have to mention the pregnant woman in the front I believe her name was Karina. She helped her employee who jumbled our reservation, super professional this female was when dealing with the mix up. Every time we came in she engaged in conversation instead of just a quick hi and bye from the other staff. She made us feel at home and extremely comfortable, extremely sweet and not to mention her belly is adorable. Anyways, I will definitely be recommending this hotel in the future. Me and the ladies look forward to Karinas smiling face again and the cookies ! Can't go wrong with those cookies.
It's not a grand resort hotel, but the best of its kind. Fantastic staff, great rooms, excellent breakfasts. Location is good, out of the chaos and noise of the tourist areas, but close enough to get wherever you need to be in a short time.
Best Western is a great place to stay , Breakfast, Washer dryer. Staff very friendly , U feel safe , its clean . You can walk to mall. restaurants on other side of Hotel. When you arrive Water is given to you. Pool and hot tub out side.
Our group stayed here for a weekend last Sept for a sporting event in the area. One from our group made the booking for this hotel but we opt to check in individually for payment purposes. The front desk was able to check us in individually without any problems. Our room was clean and located near the main road but we were able to sleep well. Our children were able to enjoy the pool every evening we were there. The breakfast food was good and the dining room was crowded but we were able to find a table.
Don't usually fill out any reviews but we've stayed at this hotel before and find that it's been remodeled and upagraded through the years. It was an excellent place and choice to stay at while visiting family in La Mesa over the Christmas Holdiay. We would highly recommend a stay there.
Exceptional staff! All smiles, friendly and accommodating. The rooms were clean and nice looking. There were power sockets in the bedside lamps for chargers BUT they were so loose, the chargers kept falling out. Unfortunately, this is the same condition as we experienced here over two years ago. Some freeway noise (welcome to California!). The owners REALLY need to spend a few dollars on the business center. The keyboard was so used, many of the letters on the keys had rubbed off ($20 to replace). The operating system needs to be updated (free). The printer was old and slow ($125 fix). Everything worked (sort of), which was great as I was in a work bind just before Christmas. The breakfast was well done and the room is inviting. There were all the cold items you'd expect. Hot items included eggs, bacon and potatoes. There was a auto pancake maker which the kids loved. The room was well staffed and empty/low food items promptly replaced. Coffee lovers NOTE: There is always free hot coffee in the lobby.
Impressed with the friendly, efficient staff and the cleanliness of the grounds and hotels. All the basic amenities, like gym, beakfast, free wi-fi and free parking. The room was nicely appointed and very clean. The location was easy, right off the freeway. Not really close to typical San Diego tourist spots, but within easy short drive to several locations, including San Diego.
Everything about the hotel was good, the breakfast was exceptional. They had bacon and sausage as well as scrambled eggs. Real orange juice, yogurt. The rooms were clean and quiet. Parking was easy. We will stay here again.
My husband and I came to San Diego to visit our Son, we stayed at the best western in La mesa, It was one of the nicest Best Western we ever stayed at, When our Son was in college in Oregon for Four years we stayed every weekend during football season at the best western in Forrest grove Oregon. this one in La Mesa is the best by far
This hotel exceeded our expectations. From check in to check out we always received friendly service from all staff members. Breakfast had a wide variety of options and was always well stocked. Price was more than reasonable. Would definitely stay here again
Everything was a delight! Breakfast, Staff, Gym, & Pool were the amenities i used and they were all excellent. The bed was extremely comfortable, rooms were very clean and smelled good. The staff made me feel at home they are great!
This hotel is great, staff is friendly, breakfast is great! The free water and cookies at check in are a nice touch too. We have stayed here for business and leisure and I would definitely stay again! Thank you for great service every time!!
We find B.W. to provide very clean and comfortable rooms. Excellent service staff and great amenities. We enjoy the breakfast available to the Best Western Plus which start us off for the day with a good meal and love the special offers throughout the year.
Family get away we enjoyed our time in San Diego and was very pleased with our stay in your hotel. I would stay here again if ever I returned to San Diego and recommend this hotel to anyone who would need a place in the area.
We come here often, and each time the staff are friendly, efficient and pleasant. Great location, quiet and close to attractions. The rooms are always clean, and even the housekeeping staff is friendly.
Great place to stay if you are in the area!! All the staff here is friendly. We showed up a bit early but they went ahead and accommodated us with a room right away. They gave us cookies and bottled water to greet us. Our room was very nice. Very spacious and very clean. Room has AC, mattress was extremely comfortable and so were the pillows. Noise level outside and inside the hotel was well controlled. Quiet area and not a lot of traffic but easy freeway access. Breakfast was included, big selection of hot foods and the seating area was quite comfortable. Will definitely stay here again!!
We were very pleased with our accommodations. The room was a handicapped equipped and very helpful. Bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent and very complete. We could hear road traffic but it did not bother us once we were asleep.
We stayed here the night before our Disney Cruise and I highly recommend for families! Kyle at the Front Desk was very accommodating and friendly, made a wonderful dinner recommendation. Beds were super comfortable. Breakfast was hot, fresh and clean. Great place to stay with easy access to San Diego without paying an arm & leg for parking!
Wonderful hotel in great location for my needs when I visit. Used to stay at this hotel when previous owned , but stopped staying as standards dropped Baddley Glad to have returned so much improved Have booked for future stays
The hotel has improved since our visit around New Year's. Everything now was clean, in good condition, and comfortable. Staff is friendly as always. Breakfast room was clean and well-supplied, and breakfast attendant was very friendly and helpgul. We would stay here again.
Great place for the money & great people on staff. Easy access to Freeways. Three good eating places within walking distance. Mexican, American, Fish. Easy access to the many places to visit in the San Diego area. I would recommend this place for business and families.
This may be an older hotel but everything inside seemed new. Room was clean, a very nice size, well furnished and actually had a small balcony. The king size bed was very comfortable. The free breakfast was very nice with plenty of choices. The hotel is very clean and staff is very friendly. There is a nice workout room that looks very new. There is a guest laundry too. For our needs the location couldn't have been better.
We arrived in San Diego for a family celebration. This Best Western was so convenient to my family's house and to all the stores. It is very clean and welcoming. I would recommend this hotel to all. Breakfast was delicious and we had so many choices! All employees were helpful!
First time stay with BWestern hotel, was very satisfied, very friendly staff, good customer service, clean room and very good variety of hot brekfast, toilettries are provided with Bath and Body Works products,
Have stayed her multiple times while visiting family. Rooms are very comfortable, though the bed was a little firm. We always receive great service and the place is very clean. Love the breakfast. Will definitely stay again.
Close to everything yet far enough to be a nice respite from all the traffic and bustle of downtown. The staff is great, breakfast one of the best in terms of selection and variety. I stay whenever I'm in San Diego and am always happy with my visit.
Very modern hotel, great pool. Breakfast was delicious and an A+ with a great selection of food. Hotel staff were friendly and informative. Pool was great and refreshing. It is close to our relatives, so a great location. We will definitely stay here again!
There are very few nice places to stay in the La Mesa area and after trying most of them this is by far the best. The location is perfect. It is easy access to the freeway and easy walking distance to 3 good restaurants. Staff is friendly and helpful, rooms are clean and nicely appointed, toiletries are a cut above, there is a good selection of healthy options for breakfast (in addition to not so healthy but hearty).
I stayed here on my trip to drop my daughter off at SDSU. It was a short, easy drive to the campus. The staff was friendly and efficient. The room was clean and comfortable. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast was good. Breakfast room was very crowded, but I expected that. This hotel is close to just about everything. There are even a couple of restaurants just steps away. Plenty of parking. Maid service to the room was quick. What's not to like about this place? It's a very good value. I'll stay here again when visiting my daughter.
Stayed here while our house was tented. Staff was super and it is close to home so made our daily activities easy. Room was great and the breakfast more than adequate. Even used the Jacuzzi and met some neat people there. Would definitely come back or put up guests. We were near the elevator but didn't hear it at all.
We often stay at this hotel when we are visiting nearby family and are always impressed. The staff at this hotel went above and beyond to help us have a comfortable stay this visit even when staying with young kids. We were really impressed at the prompt, attentive service. Our kids loved the breakfast every morning! We really appreciate the great service at this hotel every time we visit.
We are waiting for our house to finish in Santee and my husband has been staying here for almost 8 weeks. We as a family are now staying for two weeks. Nice hotel and very friendly staff. Clean! Would recommend to friends and stay if we had to again.
Dispite the screen door was damaged and the drape was torn, reporting this to the front desk resulted in us moving to a different, very nice room. Overall we had a very comfortable stay and will be returning.
One big problem the hotel can't change is it's proximity to the freeway, and I heard it all night long. I heard whenever I was in the room. You can't get over it. The air conditioner that couldn't adequately cool the room should be able to be fixed. The staff were really nice, the room rate was fine, and on the plus it is close to quite a few restaurants.
Our days in San Diego were so packed that we returned to the hotel late every night. It is a bonus to sleep in a clean, quiet and comfortable room like the one we had. We received a Best Western Rewards welcome package upon check-in at around. It has nothing fancy but the thought counts. The front desk staff made our check-in quick and easy, so we can rest for the night. Our room decor is very modern and well-kept. The breakfast room size is decent and they have great hot breakfast selection. If you return to the hotel late, the outside parking lot is usually full. Their covered parking spots are small. Big cars like SUV, vans or trucks will have to take up more than one spot. The hotel is very close to highway I-8 and is about 25 minutes away from the airport. For travellers looking for a quality hotel to stay, I highly recommend Best Western Plus La Mesa.
Hotel was Very clean. Beds were Very comfortable. Free parking. Breakfast was plentiful. Very easy to find. It's right next to the highway. Staff was very helpful and courteous. It's a 10 to 15 minute drive to the beach. For the best meal in San Diego just walk next door to the hotel. It's a very inviting atmosphere. It has a huge bar and I decided to eat at the bar since I was on a solo trip. Instead of salad I got Cucumbers and Feta cheese That's the first picture. I followed that with the Prime Rib Small cut cooked medium rare. That's the second picture. Hope this helps.
Hotel has excellent rooms, pool, parking and overall appearance with very friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely stay again. Hotel was pretty centrally located to all local amusement parks and to a great mall and lots of choices to eat nearby.
Pool was small and they had no towels. The front desk gave me some towels but didn't come to restock them while I was at the pool. They had parking under the hotel which helped to keep the car cool. They had a pancake making machine but no waffle makers. Breakfast room rather small.
I went to the San Diego area to visit family after a business trip and although I could have stayed with family, I like to have a hotel so when I have had my fill of family bonding I have a refuge to go to. I chose this location being the price seemed decent for the area and was only 8 miles from whom I was visiting. I had a ADA room and when I went into the room, in the tub, there was several huge holes in the acrylic with jagged edges all the way around it. I brought it to their attention and it was the expected "Oh sorry, we didn't know about it. Thank you for telling us." and so on. As to the rest of the four night stay. I swear that it was one of the worst beds I have slept on ever. I think I would have been more comfortable on a hospital bed in traction. Actually the traction would have been helpful. My back and neck was in such pain, I set up a massage at my next stop the evening I left this hotel and to put that in prospective. I have never once had a professional massage in my near 45 years of life. I needed one after this place, that or an orthopedic. Also if you drive a big vehicle such as a crew cab pickup, parking on site can be problematic. The tub itself in the room was surprising again being it had such a high step over to get into, my need for an ADA room is due to the knee injury. Now to the good part. The rank and file staff at this location were great. Briana at the front desk was great and Ro who also works the front desk was an absolutely to talk with. At one point when I returned one evening, I ended up chatting with him for about half an hour that night before heading up to bed. They so offer breakfast in the morning which I normally don't partake in, but did on a couple of the days I was there and for what it was, it was decent food. I did bring my food back to my room which was just a few doors away but the dining area looked like it was kept clean and everything was fresh and hot.
Everything was good had late check in: that wasn't a problem. Was slightly disappointed with the breakfast but all in all had a great stay. Parking was good found a space easy. Internet ran normal. Room was huge!
Best Western La Mesa is absolutely wonderful. We will definately stay with you again! The staff is great, breakfast wonderful. Second floor breakfast and free washer-dryer for guest use. Clean spacious rooms. Quiet!!!! There are two very nice restraunts within a 3-5 minute walk that are great, very nice!!!
We were looking for an affordable quick stop overnight to break up our drive home. This hotel was affordable, clean, and quaint. The water and cookies at check in were a nice touch. No hassle or charge for rollaway which was SO nice. The roll away was just an extra mattress for the floor which was way better than those folded In Half beds that are super uncomfortable. Hotel was clean. Breakfast was good, kinda small area so go early to beat the crowd. Perfect for a cheap, clean pit stop to break up the driving.
Clean well looked after property with excellent staff in all departments. Very friendly and willing to answer all questions Nice little pool,, Great hot breakfast, food replenished quickly. Central location.
Competent, friendly staff made for an enjoyable and comfortable stay. Daily breakfast buffet was excellent. A couple of minor problems (faulty TV remote and occasional plumbing issue) were replaced/repaired in short order.
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel which is in La Mesa, CA in the eastern part of San Diego County. It is close to shopping and the freeway which makes it convenient. The breakfast is good even though the room it's held in is pretty small.
Very good location near San Diego beaches are 15 miles away Good value Nice staff Nice bed.it was a short drive to mission bay. Easy parking. Every nice lobby. Breakfast is very good. I like the bacon biscuit and gravy.
The hotel is in a good location, near freeway access and shopping/eating needs. The hotel staff is very pleasant and the hotel is clean. The full breakfast is a nice perk and very good.in variety. We will stay here again in the future.
I stay here for 3 nights every few months to get my granddaughter fix. She knows her way around now, loves the free apples and the pool. The breakfast has a nice variety of items and I appreciate that there's protein (eggs, peanut butter) available instead of just the stale muffins you get at some hotels.
Friendliest, most comfortable Best Western. We have enjoyed our three night stay! Comfortable king sized beds, large rooms, refrigerator, and a very nice breakfast with crispy bacon, which was a favorite with the guys in our group.
Ro and Jessika, from the front desk, make customer service look easy. They are both so good to us whenever we stay there. So wonderful at what they do that we cannot wait to come back!! Added to which, the rooms are very nice and the entire staff works so well you might think you booked at the Ritz Carlton!!! Complimentary breakfast is plentiful and good. Thank you especially to Mr. Ro and Ms Jessika!!
My fiancé and I just wanted a quick one night get away from work and it was exactly what we needed we drove 15-20 minutes to gas lamp and Belmont park and we still had so much fun, the hotel was perfect for us
I typically don't do surveys. It seems to me that many of them are just a numbers games i.e. only meant to tick off boxes. A word to the wise (and unwise), trust, but, verify these reviews! As it relates to Best Western Plus La Mesa -San Diego, they are the real deal!! Clean, Priced Well, Smart and Friendly Staff. It's a great location for families headed to Sea World and other area fun! Enjoy!
after staying at many motels over the years, this motel had the nicest and friendliest staff. The breakfast was good and the room was clean and comfortable. The lobby was large and very nice and was accommodating to our large group. I would definitely stay there again.
The overall experience from food to rooms and check in was wonderful! Ora is very sweet n kind and always with a smile to help. I couldn't believe how friendly the staff is and making sure we were taken care of. A call was even made to our room to double check we were happy n if we needed anything! Love it!
Modern, refurbished rooms. Outstanding staff, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast could be healthier. Noisy, fan-based air conditioning was a problem because it had to be on 24/7. Very convenient and comfortable.
This was a wonderful hotel with excellent amenities. Everything was above average and I would certainly stay there again! The beds were comfy, the a/c worked well, everything was awesome. The only detractor for the stay is that the rooms on the freeway side have a lot of car noise and that freeway is busy 24/7.
I stay here for business and I love this hotel! Its the perfect area & the hotel is always very clean & they have excellent staff!! they are very friendly & caring!! Briana always has a smile & is very professional and sweet when checking me in & out! I would diffidently recommend this hotel!!
A nice retreat in La Mesa. Parking spaces are VERY small and if you don't have a compact car, 2 spaces are required to park. Everything you need, toiletries and a mini fridge and microwave are included in room. Overall, a pleasant stay.
Stayed here in June for a wedding in La Mesa and were pleasantly surprised by this clean, well staffed hotel right off the 8. The room was comfy and the complimentary breakfast a real value. We'll stay here again if in the area.
Hotel is always clean and staff are always going out of their way to make you feel at home. Breakfast is always great. stay here for work and always satisfied with stay. One of the best hotel in la mesa.
Everything was clean; from the parking lot to the walk to the room. The breakfast was great, there was a greater selection than he usual options. Even my seven month old was able to have breakfast with us.
This was a great hotel. It was quiet, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was wonderful with a wide selection available.Bottled water, herbal teas and chrisp, juicy apples were always always available. It only took 5 minutes to get to my sons home. Perfect place to stay.
Location is great, service, rooms, personnel -- all are terrific. Breakfast is always good, hot, varied. Just need softer pillows! The air conditioning is fantastic; always a plus when it gets hot in San Diego..
Stayed mid week, somehow got a handicap room [#305] This room is very spacious. It has 5 windows! Roll in shower. Clean, nice decor, noisy being at the front..u hear the freeway noise. 2 lamps weren't working and the ironing board wouldn't stay up and the radio couldn't be reprogrammed to the correct time, I reported it all, but overall it was just fine. I would like to suggest to cleaning staff to use something else. The whole lobby and elevators smelled too medicinal. Friendly staff, smiling faces. Coffee in the lobby at 3am is great.
Reasonably priced clean hotel with easy freeway access. Staff is always very friendly and competent. Rooms are typically nice. Would love a little more water pressure in the shower. We've never had the breakfast because we leave too early...just saying.
The hotel is located within 30 mins to San Diego Airport. Very nice and helpful staff. The rooms were clean and had updated furniture. It has a coffee pot and fridge in the room. The breakfast in the morning was great and a good selection of food.
Excellent rooms. Especially pleasant, helpful, and polite staff. Breakfast was hot and complete with eggs, bacon, potatoes, biscuits and gravy, and waffles. Excellent value. Only minor complaint was the covered parking spaces were a little too small for our Surburban. LOL
Great hotel for the price. Staff in the front desk and breakfast room were very friendly. They have agood breakfast selection. Would stay here again and would recommend to friends. Close to the freeway.
MY name is Tammie from Missouri. If you are looking forward to coming back home that is the feeling you will find at this hotel clean helpful staff Jessika front desk is GREAT Can't wait to come back will stay here again!!! Breakfast was fresh rooms very clean housing keeping all very nice Jessika gave my team and myself all the best places to eat she didn't miss a one . left a couple things at home no worries the front desk was there. When you choice this hotel you are choosing a family feeling. A really great place to stay
Our stay was wonderful - We simply adored the hostess in the breakfast area. Also appreciated the complimentary laundry - came in so handy. Thank you to all the staff. You were so helpful and courteous to an old couple. We appreciated it. We are 85 and 88..You so graciously put us in another room when the shower did not work in the first one. How kind.
We were in town unexpectedly, and stayed here. After traveling all day with 2 kids we were greeted by a nice staff member (unfortunately don't remember his name!) who promptly checked us in, and gave us cookies and water bottles. Room was always clean, staff was friendly, location was easy. Rooms are not super sound proof and you can hear other guests in halls and above. Breakfast not bad for continental. Room cleaning staff always put my kids stuffed animals in fun spots on the bed which my kids thought was great. Would definitely stay again.
The employees were not very welcoming or friendly, our room was not very clean the bed had some sort of red stain on the blanket and there were bottle caps on the floor of the room. Breakfast was decent. Parking was absolutely horrible. We have a small vehicle but the parking spaces are not even big enough for a compact car, You could barely get in and out of your car.
This was the best stay ever . People at this best western made you feel like family. So happy friendly and courteous. Would most definetly stay here again. And would recommend every one to stay here. You won't be disappointed. And those warm fresh cookies are the best.
My mother lives in El Cajon so whenever I head down to visit family in San Diego I stay at the Best Western on Murray Drive. It is not easy to find a good hotel in the area. This Best Western is hands down the best. The staff is friendly, the breakfast is good, and the rooms are clean. My only criticism is that the sheets are scratchy. My hope is that by being a squeaky wheel regarding the sheets, that it will result in a softer night sleep for all of us moving forward.
Stayed here to attend a retirement party. Hotel was very clean, remodeled rooms. Staff very friendly and helpful. The breadfast was very good. My only complaint is the toilet is so low, I felt like it was a grade school toilet. Pleasantly surprised at how nice the rooms were.
Everyone was very helpful, courteous and kind. Briana was especially awesome! The staff help us with the many rooms that we had reserved and worked with us on the many changes that we had. The rooms were great; clean and quiet!
Stayed two nights at this hotel while visiting family nearby in El Cajon. The hotel has only been a Best Western Plus for about a year. Prior to that it was a Holiday Inn. It's right next to the 8 freeway, so there is easy access to it. Our room was on the third floor (of 4) and about halfway back from the street (Murray Drive) and facing West. The room was very clean and well stocked. The front desk clerk, Luis, actually let us check in at 11 AM since this room was ready for occupancy. He was very polite and professional and saved us some "check-in cookies" since we would not return until after 8 PM. The other front desk employees were also great, but I don't have their names. Because of the freeway sleeping can be a problem if you are used to a quiet house as we are at home. It's noisy, very noisy! It's a nice hotel, but for that one reason alone I personally would probably not stay here again. Too bad, because in a quieter location I would come back without hesitation.
We stayed here 4 nights. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It's across the street from a really noisy freeway, so we kept our windows closed and the fan turned on for white noise, and the outside noise didn't bother us. Our room was clean and roomy, although the sheer curtain was torn and needed to be replaced. We felt like the breakfast was one of the best we've ever had at a motel. Scrambled eggs or omelets, bacon, sausage, sausage gravy, biscuits, three kinds of juice, yogurt, etc., etc. Really exceptional.
My wife and I stayed here for several days while had surgery at Sharp Grossmont. The room was large and clean. The bed comfortable. The staff was very accommodating when we discovered we needed to stay an extra night, no hassles just a few clicks of the mouse. My wife enjoyed the breakfast offerings saying they did a very nice job. Convenient to the hospital, they offered a small reduction in the room rate for patients. My only complaints would be small pillows, loud A/C and road noise. Overall a recommended stay in the La Mesa area. I would certainly stay here again but maybe on a higher floor.
The hotel serves a very nice breakfast. And, warm fresh cooked cookies in the afternoon. Te staff is knowledgeable about local stores, restaurants and other points of interest. They are very willing to make your stay welcoming.
The rooms are very clean and the beds are comfortable. The noise from the highway never let up unless I drowned it out with the TV or the air conditioning . If you need a magnification mirror or a good hair dryer bring one along. Amenities : Lobby Coffee, tea free 2nd floor has a breakfast which had many options. Two restaurants next door. Vending machines only take $ 1-2-5 dollar bills . Concerns : if you order food into the hotel the drivers come directly to your room the front desk doesn't call and let you know ... Today I was in the lobby (waiting for a ride ) and I overheard the following: the front desk employee was on the phone with a supervisor as a guest had returned to their room to find it open. The employee said that it happens as sometimes house keeping doesn't shut the door completely. No safes in the rooms ...
Jessika (pictured) was very polite and helpful during my visit. She answered my questions in a very knowledgeable fashion without showing any sign of natural fatigue when having to answer the same questions multiple times on a daily basis. There was a problem with one of the doors; she left the desk and instantly offered assistance! The covered parking was appreciated! The only complaint is the pool was not useable as it was not heated. After an eight hour drive, it was something I looked forward to doing but could not!
Even though we had a room away from the freeway, you could hear the highway noise quite loudly (but then, I'm a very light sleeper). The beds were comfortable, staff very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was one of the best we've had when traveling. We would stay here again if our travels came this way.
I agree with so many of the reviews that Rose always makes you feel at home when you walk in the door. Very helpful and always positive about the hotel. Jessika is newer to the staff but with Rose's tutelage, she is another wonderful BW employee. The rooms are great, especially the ones in the back of the hotel with a view of the water. The breakfast is plentiful. The breakfast staff, the grounds staff for that matter everyone I have encountered at this hotel has provided exceptional customer service. Thanks, BW.
Thanks to Rose and Jessica for providing excellent service as soon as I walked through the door I felt great as they were asking us how our day was and if we needed anything thanks for being so sweet and kind cant wait to stay here again!!!!!
I always have a pleasant stay at this hotel. It is quiet and relaxing after a long day at work. The breakfast is full of variety for those that like to have a selection of nutritional food items in the morning to get their day started. The internet is fast to connect and I have had no problems with email delivery.
The Best Western Plus at La Mesa, CA took care of many details to make a 2 night stay a real treat. Great breakfast with bacon, sausage, eggs, 1/2 & 1/2, etc. was very tasty. Very clean room with 'frig, microwave, wireless, & cable was convenient.
I reserved a single queen bed room. I arrived late (9 PM - I did call ahead to advise) and was given a single king bed room at the south end of the bldg facing the freeway. The noise was only bearable because I was exhausted and collapsed in short order. This was the narrow end of the bldg, where the breakfast room, ice machine and vending machines are located, and there are very few guest rooms at this end (the two adjacent rooms were labeled for handicapped access / special needs, and were vacant). Perhaps because I was traveling as an older single male this was considered an acceptable room assignment. The hotel was clearly not full, so this was not an apparent issue. Again, I was exhausted and didn't feel like asking for another room. When I first checked out my room, I noted that a lamp and the clock in one corner didn't work. I checked further and found that both had apparently been unplugged by a previous guest who had left their shaver charger plugged into the outlets. I plugged both the lamp and clock back in, reset the time, and brought the shaver charger plug down to the front desk, informing them I thought the previous guest had left it behind. The response from the clerk was luke-warm at best, again as though I was bothering them. I inquired about getting a cookie upon checking in (a BW staple). I was informed that they were "out", and that they were only available from 3-4 PM. My son (who I was in town visiting) later informed me that when his grandmother last visited she also stayed at the same hotel and inquired late in the evening about getting a cookie, and the staff readily offered to make some for her. Different treatment? I too have a BW membership account and use AAA. What was different? The next afternoon (6 PM) upon returning from a day out, I again asked the desk clerk (a different one) about a cookie, and was again told they were "out". I spoke for a minute about my son's grandmother's experience vs my own regarding the availability or willingness to prepare a simple cookie. The clerk rolled her eyes and said if I wanted to wait "10-15 minutes" then she could put in a batch "for me", as though it would inconvenience her terribly to do so. I said I'd pass. What are they doing here, pocketing all of the cookies? Breakfast was decent. Mostly packaged goods (dry cereal & milk, etc), with a fair mix of prepared stuff (bacon, sausauge, bagels, pancake machine, coffee, tea, juice machine, etc), Better than "continental", but marginally so. Closer to airplane food than Denny's or IHOP. If you have to eat and jet first thing in the morning (I saw a boy scout troop get in there first thing when they opened) this is probably a preferred option, rather than going somewhere else for your breakfast. The room was very clean, although you must be careful when stepping into the shower. Although it has a low-step entrance, the floor of the shower is sloped slightly and is very slippery. It would benefit from some added traction. Definitely a lawsuit waiting to happen. Value? Somewhat. Personally, I will be staying at a nearby Holiday Inn I've been to before where I am treated with much more respect and save the $25 difference for a nicer breakfast.
We stayed here and had a wonderful time. Our room was more than what we expected. It was clean, spacious and most of all made our stay comfortable. After our stay I found out that I left my rosary given to me by my parents. Rose was more than generous enough to help locate it and mail it to my address at no cost. Thank you! Great customer service! Kudos to you and Best Western La Mesa.
Stayed 2 nights, lovely room, fridge, microwave, tray table, big TV, but king bed a bit too hard for me. Tub/shower...I smiled when I saw their brand of toiletries "Stress Relief" Sliding glass door is great, however it's still pretty noisy with it closed. Need dual panes. Very nice breakfast spread. Make your own pancakes instead of waffles...that was fun, just push a button! Clean everywhere. Two famous, REALLY good restaurants next door. Also the BBQ Pit in El Cajon-very causal. (jump on freeway East, jump right off next exit. on the right) Friendly staff, all smiles. 24/7 coffee/tea/coco I didn't have time to use the pool. My only complaint is, when I put a Do Not Disturb sign up, don't come and plaster a notice on my door about your housekeeping schedule! Slip that under the door, if you must. When I saw a few of those on doors when I arrived, I thought they were "Nasty Grams" I didn't read them, just thought it must be negative news. I was offended that my do not disturb was a magnet to come to my door. That policy is in need of change.
We visited San Diego for an SDSU college soccer tourney. My son chose to stay at a really low budget place. We chose to stay close by at Best Western Plus. The staff here is super friendly. Briana at the front desk is a delight. Helpful in every way with directions and suggestions. Another staff lady with dark hair checked on us at the pool. Because I was in the hot tub, I couldn't read her name tag. She was great also! Our room was spacious. The vent in the bathroom worked and was clean. The a/c was noisy but kept other noise out of the room. The room had a deodorizer smell that I don't care for. We had a king bed and a pullout sofa bed. Breakfast was great. Hot eggs, preformed omelettes, sausage or bacon, hash brown patties, a pancake machine that actually works, cereals, juices, coffee and teas. The best part were the staff members who worked in the breakfast area. They were always working hard and were very friendly. Kudos to the staff at this Best Western. The hot tub and pool are small but the price wasn't bad. Great location on the highway and close to SDSU. I would stay here again. Tip: Try Anthony's Fish Grotto next door. Walk over through the grotto from the hotel. The interior is a throwback to themed restaurants and funky. The exterior eating area is magical.
The room was nicer than expected, had a mini fridge inside, coffee, micro, small desk, and a sitting chair with a tray. They had Bath & Body Works shampoo/conditioner and soaps. Rose at the front desk was friendly and accommodating... They have snacks for sale near elevator which came in handy.. Free wi-fi and a complimentary breakfast. Found the best price on Trip Advisor.
water upon arrival,micro/fridge in room, sliding doors to balcony.Great big sreen! was told i'd get pts for stay (3rd party) key card timed out,had to go to front desk,. great food (Anthony's) next store. plenty of FREE parking, pool area could use upgrade. older but nice motel
I just spent 4 nights at this hotel and I can say, without a doubt, that their staff is their biggest asset. They're so friendly and accommodating...I can't compliment them enough. The rooms are spacious, nicely decorated and super clean. The hotel is very well kept, conveniently located, smells fresh and offers all of the amenities you could possibly need. Although it's just off the freeway, there was no noise disturbance, and I'm a VERY light sleeper. The hot breakfast is outstanding (and free!!). I highly recommend this hotel, any time you need a place to stay in La Mesa or nearby San Diego.
Nice, welcoming and definitely convenient to UDSU. Good isolation .... Even if it's very close to the freeway is not noisy at all! There are at least 3 restaurants within walking distance.... More just less than 5 minutes away. Friendly, helpful staff.
Very friendly and polite staff. Neat and clean room. Excellent breakfast. The pool location wasn't good, so we didn't get to use it. The laundry room and breakfast both on the same floor I was staying, it felt like home. I throughly enjoyed my stay in San Diego.
I've tried 3 other chains looking for the perfect place to stay while visiting a 3 yr old granddaughter. This is the best so far. It's handy to my son's home and has an excellent breakfast so you're all set up for the day. Staff was super friendly. I was greeted with a goodie bag of snacks, bottles of cold water and their thanks for being a Rewards member. Biggest drawback was the location of an indoor soccer dome next door where play went on until at least 2am when I finally fell asleep. I'll ask for a room on the West side on my next visit.
I've stayed here many times and always find the employees to be the best in service and helpfulness. The hotel has been renovated and is in much better shape than it was as a Holiday Inn Express. Close enough to downtown, Trader Joe's, Barnes & Noble, World Market and a movie theater. Breakfast needs some upgrading -- down with the "omelets" and add waffles, but otherwise pretty damn good.
Stayed at the Best Western La Mesa Plus for a short 2 nights. We found the room clean, hotel staff friendly and helpful, the location was perfect for our needs. The breakfast that is included in our rate was perfect, many choices.
Rose at the front desk gave me hella cookies. Breakfast was great. I spent 3 nights at this Best Western and they never minded when I spent time using my laptop in the lobby. The staff was very friendly, and always made sure to say hello to me as I passed them on the way to the elevator.
We had actually booked another room in San Diego and were not pleased for different reasons. We are so glad that the Best Western PLUS La Mesa had a room available for our dates. Immediately upon arrival, we were greeted by friendly staff; the woman at the front desk gave our children fresh cookies. Every single staff member we met during our stay was upbeat, welcoming, and friendly. The room was a decent size, clean, and had a microwave and refrigerator. Soaps, shampoos, and lotions were Bath and Body Works brand which was a plus. We didn't have a chance to utilize the indoor pool, but we did make use of the complimentary washer and dryer which was a huge benefit (one recommendation if you do stay here-- try to do laundry on slightly off hours as you might have to wait in line :)). The laundry soap was also complimentary. The hot breakfast was good; although the room was a bit small (I've seen this at many hotels anyway), everyone made do. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who rents a car in the San Diego area. However, there are a few restaurants within walking distance on either side of the hotel. We went to one Mexican restaurant which was great. Also, there is a large mall with a movie theater and other restaurants about a mile away. To visit popular points in Sand Diego, all you have to do is hop on I-8 West which is basically right there. Regarding the freeway noise, it really didn't bother us, and you can just keep your room fan on if it does. Excellent stay, and would highly recommend.
The staff here was superb . Jim Haupert the manager made sure all my concerns were met . Everyone met or exceeded my expectations . I had 2 concerns on the property . 1 was the pool. (The pool turned green during the first week I was here it was immediately remedied within 48 hours time for the shock ) *anyone with a home pool knows that * the second was characters of I'll repute. He showed me video of everything I had a concern about and puts my worries to rest . My favorite host was the girl with purple hair . She went above and beyond as many did. However she went the extra mile to make sure our stay was pleasant. Also rose was amazing . Talk about someone who gets something done within a timely manner. Rose is the lady you want The main point I want to make Is that over 2 weeks potentially 4 at this point , while our home is repaired . The service , treatment , breakfast and. courtesy was top notch. I would recommend this place to a friend living out of town. A tourist looking for a nice place with easy highway access. Or a family looking for a break in the daily routine life presents.
We had not been to this property since it changed from Holiday Inn Express to a Best Western Plus! Great upgrades to the property, rooms modernization, toiletries and food! We will definitely come back to stay on our next trip to San Diego. It is very convenient to the freeway and to family and it is not that far from many tourist attractions!
The staff was incredibly warm, helpful and enthusiastic. It's a very short distance from the trolley. The rooms were well kept, and the breakfast was solid. For the price, staff and proximity to the local mall and trolley, this was a great value.
We stayed here because the BW hotel recommended by the school was full so I called BW reservations and found this location. 10 minutes to the college. Starting with the only negative-the breakfast room is small and full so we had to eat in our room. The hotel was so clean, rooms were comfortable, shower pressure is amazing. We had a late night check in after traveling all day. Our room was ready for us. Rose at check-in and all through our stay was amazing! She was so friendly and helpful! Can't wait to stay again.
Very clean and well managed hotel. Nice rooms and decor. The staff is very nice as well. Lots of little extra perks to make your stay comfortable and fun. The breakfast is more than most hotels give in their price range. The only thing I'd change is the location. It's right by a freeway…but if you bring ear plugs, you are good to go.
I felt completely taken care of. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. The air conditioning unit was quiet and efficient. It was also conveniently located to the location of my workshop. I loved the people who were behind the desk, the breakfast people, the grounds keepers and maintenance people. I couldn't have asked for anything better!! 10 JOY!! Please share with the people at the hotel!!
Perfect stay! Very clean! All staff was pleasant and helpful at all times. Stayed 4 days and was pleased with room and very satisfied with daily cleaning provided. Everything was always clean and smelled great. The front desk were helpful and went above and beyond. We were treated as valued guests at all times but all staff! Great breakfast daily with variety too! Everything we needed for a great time and vacation.
Happy to have another excellent stay at another Best Western. Have been staying with this franchise for over 40 years for both business and leisure across the US and have had very few disappointments. Always try and check if they are located where we are going. Thanks again.
My two nights in San Diego were the best I have experienced on my travels. I am making another trip to east coast and knowing I have a great hotel to stay at is very rewarding! Thank you, Best Western!
If you read some of the other reviews I will touch on their subjects. The breakfast area is pretty small and cramped in the morning. That's the bad thing. The good thing is that you will actually talk to other people and socialize since you are in a bit cramped area. The food was what you would expect for a free hotel breakfast. Nothing stellar, but lots of BACON! I'm gluten-free due to an allergy and I it didn't kill me but my selection wasn't extensive. We stayed in a room on the 4th floor (I'd say penthouse but this hotel isn't in that class). While we didn't stay in a room close to the elevator, I'd recommend taking a room away from the elevator as it made tons of beeping noises that I've never heard from other elevators. It would probably drive me insane trying to sleep. Ice machine? Had to hit floor 3 to find one. There wasn't one on the 4th floor. As far as the room goes. It was comfortable. Despite setting the AC unit fan to run all the time (to try and remove the freeway noise) it cycled on and off with the air conditioning. The freeway noise is tolerable (I live in North Phoenix so I have some), but if you live in the sticks it might annoy you. I'm sure this was a product of our room so your room may not have this problem. The bathroom had a bad layout due to the construction date of the hotel. It shows its age and it is hard to have two people in it at at the same time. From what I could gather this used to be a Holiday Inn (bed linens still had the tags on them). If I owned the hotel I wouldn't replace them either. They were not dated and not worn out. I will echo what another reviewer stated that Jessika was great to check in with (How many people actually call out the staff for good things?). The room has a small fridge and it worked and didn't make noise. If you have an AT&T or T-Mobile mobile phone your phone will work wonderfully (at least on the 4th floor where my room was located). Great signal strength on both providers. I cannot speak to the function of Verizon or Sprint. The Free WiFi worked well. At times it was a bit sluggish at times but not the worst WiFi I have run across. Overall this hotel isn't a bad choice. It has some issues but it isn't priced at $250+ a night.
Exceptional service. Clean rooms. Great breakfast. Nice and friendly staff. Always helpful ;) Good location. Good neighborhood. Close to central san diego. Had no traffic. Little parking options. Grab bags a great idea.
Even though you have a reservation far in advance, it is "first come, first serve." Breakfast area too small to accommodate guests. Requested a room on the quiet side of the hotel, but it was not honored. Our room was given away because we checked in at 9 p.m. even though I called at 3 p.m. stating late arrival. We were prepaid for two nights. Res. made thru Best Western website. AAA discounts do not apply on Sunday nights.
Excellent service and staff, The breakfast buffet had a good variety of hot items and good coffee. The staff was very friendly and always helpful with giving directions and advise. They even had warm cookies in the afternoon in the lobby! I would stay there again.
I travel a lot for work, so I come in contact with guest service representatives all over the US. Best Western is my go to hotel where I land. I am always welcomed with warm smiles and pleasant personalities. Particularly on Saturday the when I landed in san diego and checked into the Best Western plus. I walked into not just smiles, but the best fresh chocolate chip cookies I have ever tasted. Jessika went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. Her personality was not only professional, but kind and welcoming. Jessika and rose went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and I am looking forward to staying again. Thank you.
AMAZING! From start to finish! I was a bit sad to leave this morning!!!! Not one thing to complain about! EVERY staff member was friendly and went out of their way to acknowledge me as I came in and out - a lot! So clean! 100% SMOKE FREE property!!! Large rooms, CLEAN! CLEAN! CLEAN! LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!
upgraded room no charge on a last minute booking. Front desk very helpful navigating the city of La Mesa. Would stay again at the hotel. And i recommend to stay if in teh la mesa area. Loved my stay there
I always try to stay at Best Western properties when I travel. I had never stayed at this particular hotel, but I was not disappointed. The staff was friendly, the rooms were clean and well appointed and breakfast was excellent. I checked in late and left early so I'm not sure about nearby restaurants and such, but it was convenient to the office I was visiting the next day and that was my primary goal. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat.
This hotel is excellent and has courteous staff, the lobby and room were clean, and the breakfast was well prepared, and had a great selection. The hotel is easy to find, it is right along the I-8 Fwy.
Stayed here for 4 nights while attending a wedding in El Cajon, CA. The room was nice and clean. The parking was very tight and need to be widened. Would be very easy to get a door ding in your car. Was on a two week trip and this was the only place that served bacon with breakfast. Although it was tasty, I always smelled of it when leaving the breakfast area. The breakfast area was also a little small. It was very crowded every day.
I have stayed in more than few hotels in La Mesa for a business trip. So far the Best western plus La Mesa has been the most cleanest hotel , Friendly attentive front desk. Housekeepers are very sweet. General manager was always around to greet you with exceptional service. He will make sure you had a great experience with your stay. I highly recommend this hotel. You won't be disappointed. Also I like to mention Free Hot delicious breakfast.
Overall very satisfied. Great location. Friendly & professional staff. Good breakfast in second floor . Small holes, but all clean. Rose and Andrew at the front desk deserves a shout out- it was so helpful through our whole visit. Everyone we came into contact with on staff was very professional. We'd definitely stay here again and were really happy with it!
Not a bad property. Parking is terrible. Breakfast was just standard. I rate this hotel at two stars. psfdigtjm gq'leaigjltewjbhlbstfjh; orwhb;kajbn;ajgonbea ;ioewqjnbea;kjn;lib teqkjnbe;keqjtnbe ;kjegah;kejbb
You can hear the freeway noise all night long and every footstep above and every door on your floor open and shut. you can hear every shower's plumbing and people talking in room next door or outside in parking lot. It should not be a PLUS property that is a total rip off to Best Western customers. The only positive is the front desk staff but otherwise the place is really creepy and all night long there is noise, even from air conditioner-old type. The room rates are not good value at all. Anything over $70 for this very basic motel is not worth it. Was told that is the price Priceline and Expedia pays but then they charge $130 to $150 plus tax, also ripping customers off. Anyone who wrote positive review is probably working for the owner is my guess.
Nice staff and near some very good restaurants (Anthony's, Brigantine ). My only complaint is that the bathtub was peeling. That had been mentioned in a previous review and the hotel still hadn't fixed it.
When I checked in, Rose and Jessika were the ladies at the front desk, and they were both so friendly from beginning to end. I informed Rose that my reservation was supposed to be for King bed with a sofa, but that was not showing up on my reservation. The hotel was completely sold out, but she offered me a rollaway free of charge. Jessika gave me cookies to give to my son. They were both so friendly and engaging throughout our entire stay there, and I can honestly say that was exceptional, the best customer service I've ever received from any hotel front desk staff. Corrina was in the breakfast room, and there was a mad rush for breakfast, with everyone arriving at the same time. The food ran out only because of the unexpected rush, and she made sure to get all the food out as quickly as possible. She made announcements to everyone that food was on its way, and that they were extending the breakfast hours so that we could all eat, and she said please no rush. That was great customer service!
The beds were very comfortable, the room a nice size, breakfast was wonderful. Nice location. Not noisy. Friendly employees. Prompt service. Many television stations to choose from. Good bathroom provisions.
very good hotel. the staff was very helpful. would recommend this hotel. the location is near a major freeway, shopping, and entertainment. the rooms are spacious and very clean. the bed was very good for sleeping. breakfast was very good. they also offered me bottled water when I checked in. I thought that was a very nice touch. overall I would highly recommend this property.
Stayed here for 1 night as I had an early morning meeting at SDSU and this was the most convenient location. From that standpoint it was a good choice. The hotel rooms and hallways overall have nice decor. Views outside consist of large parking lots and the 8 freeway. Where this hotel falls down is 2 areas: 1) Being right on the 8, freeway noise is very noticeable even in rooms at the back of the hotel, and even with the fan or a/c on continuously. It doesn't really die down until very late, past midnight. 2) Attention to detail with upkeep and cleanliness. This is one area I consistently notice with the majority of Best Western properties and why I've stopped staying at BW as much as I used to. Specifically here: dirt stains on the duvet cover; dirt stains and pin holes on the window curtain; water stains on ceiling and shoddy job of attempting to cover it up; some strange red substance on one of the walls - hopefully not blood! This ruined what otherwise was a pretty nice room with modern touches and furnishings. I planned to inform the front desk the morning of check-out of these issues, however the only person on duty was a housekeeper who spoke limited English. I wouldn't stay here again but it may work for those seeking a cheaper alternative than in-town San Diego hotels and free parking.
Was disappointed that our accessibility room with roll-in shower had been given away, though we had booked the room three months in advance; however, the Director of Hospitality, Jim Haupert, did go out of his way to try and make it right. They did not have another roll-in shower room, but Jim did comp a room that was bathroom accessible. Traveling with special needs? Be sure to triple check after you have confirmed your room.
I really enjoyed my stay at this Best Western. The room was very comfortable and the hotel was very quiet. I will definitely stay again since I am in town very often. Louis, the maintenance guy and the night auditor were all very friendly and courteous!
We have stayed only 2 nights but the staff was very helpful. Our room was well furnished ,spacious and clean. Bed was very comfortable. Breakfeast was pleasant because the employee kept everything spotless and well stocked. When in the area again, we will definitely stay there.
This hotel was reasonably priced and located next to the freeway which made traveling convenient . The room had updated decor and was spotless. We liked having breakfast there the next morning. I would recommend this location because the restaurants on both sides have terrific food...
No commit. The rooms need more lighting to dark can't seed to be checked clearly in the room in the day time. The light fixtures need to be checked before guests checks in the rooms.I also hope that everything is checked out including the Spa and Pool.
I looked for an economical motel in the area for a local job and happened to stop here. Even though the rate was a little more than I budgeted, it was well worth it. My best experience was the friendliness and help 'Rose' at the front desk gave me. I've returned 3 times and I thank God she was there to greet me. I'll be back in a month and look forward to her friendly smile. Mark
I loved staying at Best Western Plus, great breakfast selection, very clean and all employees make sure you are comfortable when staying at Best Western Plus in La Mesa. I would recommend this location to anyone.
Nice motel off freeway, no truck parking but large parking lot. Continental breakfast was really good and lots of choices. Staff friendly and courteous. Room clean, and large enough for a free.crib. Fun stay pool is cold, hot tub hot, so lots of bu burr and oooo.
My aunt and I have been at this hotel since January due to extensive flood damage & the restoration - courtesy of a great insurance company. I can't say enough about this hotel, it's just been beyond awesome. The rooms are spotless, beds are ridiculously comfy, and it always smells so great! They have the best breakfasts every morning - omelettes, muffins, lots of bacon! And the in room coffee is great! The staff are all so friendly & helpful if we need extra coffee or toiletries. I'd like to give Rose, Jessika, & Louis at the front desk a shout out for the most excellent hospitality & outstanding service. You all ROCK! Gonna miss this place which my aunt & I refer to as "The Spa". 20 stars! We highly recommend BW+ La Mesa to anyone visiting the area. THANKS for a wonderful stay & we will be back! Regina & Kathleen
We need to be in the San Diego area often, and choose BW La Mesa each time. It is consistent in its welcome and friendly staff, is centrally located yet off the beaten path, so it is quiet yet close to wherever you want to go.
I recently stayed 8 nights here while visiting my daughter at SDSU. (Booked in advance for 5 nights but extended my stay because I loved this hotel.) My stay was above and beyond expectations. From the moment we checked in with your WONDERFUL front desk workers to the minute I checked out I was impressed with how clean your hotel was and how friendly your employees are. Every one of them: from the front desk workers to the janitor to the housekeepers and breakfast lady were beyond nice! And to top things off the price of a night was very reasonable plus you get: FREE wifi, FREE parking, FREE breakfast with a wonderful lady named Sandra, and FREE laundry services (with nice front loads and FREE Tide pods and dryer sheets). What an GREAT idea!!! The hotel and pool are small but perfect for my stay and I loved the location away from all the crazy, busyness of hotel circle. I LOVED the Mexican and Seafood restaurants right beside the hotel. Yummy & could walk to dinner. I loved how I could walk to Target and the mall during my stay. And the treadmill and workout room was awesome. This was my 6th trip to San Diego this year and my favorite place to stay. (and I have stayed in hotels that cost three times the money and have been disappointed!) I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and have already booked a room for my return in May! :) Thank you to everyone who works here who made my stay so enjoyable. Kuddos to you!!!
We were able to find a low priced room without compromising on our stay. It was clean, bottled water was offered upon our arrival and we had a small refrigerator in our room. They served a breakfast on the second floor, which had some hot items as well. The staff seemed friendly and attentive to our needs, however the parking in the late evening can be difficult as a lot of workers with large trucks stay at the hotel and some tend to take up more than one spot at a time.
Very nice hotel, good breakfast (but could have a little fresher pancakes), nice room (very clean) and comfortable beds. Excellent room for the price. I would recommend this place and visit again when in the area.
We arrived last night after a long day on the road. The staff was very friendly to us when we checked in. Our room was spacious and very clean. Breakfast was awesome. There was a variety of food and the lady in charge of the breakfast area, Sandra, was such a hard worker. Both my husband and I were very impressed with her positive attitude and how spotless she kept the area even though she was the only worker and there were lots of guests. I definetly would stay here again!
This is the bestest Best Western we have stayed at. We do travel very frequently for business and have frequented other chains as well, in this price range. This is the best hotel for the very reasonable room rate, with very good service. This is our third time staying here, three weekends in a row. Luis at front desk is very courteous, friendly and quick in checking you in. Breakfast and WiFi are wonderful .Breakfast host is very friendly, fast and keeps the items hot and stocked. Housekeeping staff also is very friendly and efficient. I noticed a tiny leak around the toilet upon checking in but was not too concerned, however, when housekeepers cleaned the room, they got it fixed. Parking is plentiful and the property is in very easy access to freeways and airport and shopping and all attractions San Diego has to offer. We will definitely stay here in future.
We recently stayed at Best Western, and was pleasantly surprised. ALL the staff from front desk to housekeepers were amazingly friendly and genuinely helpful. We were always greeted with friendly staff and were offered extra help if we needed it. It's not the newest hotel but it is well-maintained and very clean.
Can't say enough about the staff. Everyone was pleasant and went the extra mile to please us. The breakfast was great, but the room on the 2nd floor where they serve it is quite small. The breakfast attendant was very friendly and kept things spotless. The remodeled rooms are lovely. We highly recommend this hotel. You can't go wrong here! We will stay here whenever we are in La Mesa.
This was our first stay at a Best Western Plus. They offered chocolate chip cookies when you check in and a cold bottle of water. Room was nicely decorated and included a fridge and microwave. Breakfast was a nice plus. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Don't know where to begin to praise this place. Stayed their last year when it was a Holiday Inn Express and it was great then. Just started back with Best Western a couple of years ago and when I call this year for reservations was told this was now a Best Western. First morning met Sandra serving breakfast and she was absolutely superb. Could not say enough kind things about her diligence in keep the earing area clean and well supplied. She was personality plus. Then there was Gina in housekeeping and she saw to our every need and again a beautiful personality. Then we all met Selina at the front desk and we didn't think anyone could be sweeter. I cannot say enough about this place. We also met Sergio who was so pleasant as was the other gentlemen that worked the front desk. Our only disappointment was that the pool was not heated. When it got to 90 degrees we would have liked to have jumped in the pool but it was extremely cold. Sun only reached it until about 2:30PM and then it's in the shade.
My Uncle and Aunt stayed here for 3 weeks. The Staff was wonderful from the start. They were super nice when they checked in. Anytime they needed anything the staff was right there. They also serve a wonderful Breakfast. (Make your own Pancakes, Biscuits and gravy, Eggs, Bacon, and juices. All the rooms were newly remodeled too. I would recommend this hotel to any of my Guest from out of state. A+++++++++
We arrived late the night of our Trip. Originally going to stay at Holiday Inn. Things with our reservation went wrong so we called and immediately booked a room at the Best Western. We told AMANDA our story and she was so sweet she gave us the best room in the place. HUGE. Loved it there.
Room was clean, nice, and bed comfortable! Breakfast was good, and staff was great! I will definitely return to this hotel on y next visit to La Mesa/San Diego area! My only criticism is they need to give more water!
This hotel while by a freeway is quiet, extremely comfortable and one of the most enjoyable stays I have had traveling. The free full breakfast is excellent everyday, with a wide variety and very well prepared and presented. The staff is extremely friendly and go out of their way to be help. The room was large, with a comfortable bed, large TV, mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker and iron. Laundry and gym are also great. So enjoyed it, almost did not want to leave except to get back to my family. I will be bringing my family to this hotel on our next trip to San Diego.
We had wonderful service and comfort for our week long stay! My girlfriend is an amputee and requires a shower chair. The chairs were all already in use so the manager went out and purchased a new one for her to use during the stay! Impressed. Great breakfast offered. Washer and dryer use. Comfortable bed.
I found the hotel to be very clean and fresh. extremely helpful staff always available when I had any question about the area entertainment spots. I was very pleased with the general manager Jim Haupert. I shared how wonderful he is taking care of the hotel. It felt very confertable place to stay. I have stayed here in the past notice the change to a better hotel with the new management. I plan to return. Thank you Nancy
I was very pleased with this Hotel. Room was very clean staff very friendly. Breakfast was great. Specially the cookies freshly made in the afternoons. Friendly housekeepers. Great restaurants right next door. Shopping close by. General manager was very friendly. Every morning he would greet us with a smile and made sure everything was going well with our stay. I would definitely come back.
Although all the staff was very nice, two employees stood out. Rose was working the desk when I checked in. She was very helpful and went the steps to insure I was briefed on the facilities. She was also very helpful with local directions and advice. The person running the breakfast room was also very helpful. I did not get her name. She greeted people as they walked in, made sure they were comfortable and enjoyed breakfast.
We have to be in San Diego often, and we always come to the BW La Mesa. The staff are consistently friendly and helpful, and never let us down. A room is a room, but any small issues are easily overlooked when the staff has a great attitude.
My stay at the best western plus hotel was a very pleasant experience. I would gladly recommend this property to my friends and relatives. The service was very good. Employees were very helpful. The location was close to freeway. Get around the city was effortless.
This hotel was more expensive than most of the other local hotels but it was worth it. The hotel was in a decent area, was well maintained, clean, quiet and the staff were pleasant and helpful. My room was large and the decoration was in good order. The free 24 hour coffee in the lobby was good and the breakfast which was included in the room price was exceptionally good. A minor downside was that the free in-room internet was very slow when I was there. I would definitely stay there again.
This hotel is extremely clean staff very friendly and awesome service. When you check in they provide you with a free bottles of water for each family member. In the afternoons fresh baked cookies at the front desk. Very Tasty. Also breakfast is included with your stay. Clean laundry room and fitness room. I have stayed at this Hotel few Times never been disappointed. General manager is always around very friendly hands on if anything is needed.
Love this hotel! Breakfast is amazing, free coffee all day! The staff are pretty much the best staff I've had in awhile! Rooms are very clean, kudos to housekeeping. If your looking for a bang for your buck and the comfort of feeling at home this is the place! Come here and I promise you will come back, I will for sure!
My husband had made a reservation over the phone because we were stuck in the hospital near by for 8 hours. And when we got to the hotel the receptionist Amanda told us she didn't have a reservation for us but she still accommodated us and got us a room. She was so nice, great customer service!
My girlfriend and I had the pleasure of an extended stay at this location. Everyone was polite and did whatever they could to make us feel at home. I have to mention; there was one receptionist in particular that went above and beyond for us. Her name was Rose. Not only did she make us feel at home, she had a smile on her face and a great sense of humor, every day. Rain or shine. Staff: 10/10 Rooms: 10/10 Customer Service: 10/10 Breakfast: 10/10 I would recommend BWP-La mesa to anyone.
Excellent hotel, very clean, friendly and helpful staff. Great breakfast, free parking, convenient to all locations in San Diego.Rooms were modern and nicely furnished as well as spacious. Exercise room available with laundry facilities where you can exercise and wait for your laundry. Just off Interstate 8 where you can conveniently get to any local destinations. Manager came out to greet and welcome us and stopped to talk with us several times.
all I have to say is rude front desk service and they charge your card after you leave for a extra night and then argue with you on the phone saying they did not charge a third night and if it was, I was told by the front desk manager to contact my bank then and dispute the charge.
I was here only one night. The hotel staff were very courteous (sincerely courteous , as every time I walked by the front desk, I was asked if I needed anything and if everything was fine with my stay). There are plenty of nice FREE perks, like bottle water, laundry (self) services, and snacks (fruits , cookies). Location of hotel is off the highway near some restaurants (busy highway, so expect noise if on that end of hotel). I was in an upgraded room, that had a few problems. The tv didn't have sound working, and the picture would go in and out. Also, wifi was very slow (recall dial up back in the day...it was like that). Bed mattress is on the firm side, which I personally liked, but the pillows were too flat. Also, the sheets on the bed were not clean (I found several hairs on the sheets under the duvet, which was unsettling). The breakfast buffet was free, and standard for this type of hotel chain. I would give this hotel 4 stars if my room were a little nicer (and I think it may have been just my room, as I see others on TA have rated this hotel highly for their rooms).
The staff here are really making customers their priority, and they go out of their way to make things nice for you. And they always do it with a smile on their face. We keep coming back to this location every time we are in the San Diego area. Location is central to all the attractions, is just off the freeway so easy access, yet rooms are quiet. Great place to stay.
have been staying here twice a year for the past 8 years when it was holiday inn express front desk says it is still same owners run by happy team but now best western ceiling in lobby is very nice all rooms seem to have been updated always great value compared to others in the area
Great Staff, comfortable beds and you can't beat that complimentary breakfast. Nice small workout facility along with the free laundry machines on-site. I would recommend this particular hotel to all travelers visiting San Diego.
This used to be a Holiday Inn Express. I understand a few months ago it switched to a Best Western Plus. Holiday Inn had pretty much renovated before the switch, but I did notice hallways and lobby area seemed to have different colors than I recall previously. Still a good price for its convenient location. Lots of outlets in the room, which I like. Only negative, and it was this way previously, and it seems all hotels are moving in this direction, is the low lighting. For those of us getting older I could not distinguish between black or dark blue. It was hard to read a map or book with such low wattage. The low lighting also makes a place seem depressing, no matter how nice the furnishings. It did have good free wi fi. I will be returning, but I'll bring my flashlight.
Best Western in La Mesa, CA has many perks, some of them unexpected such as free laundry facilities and free bottled water. Also free breakfast with a wide choice of food items. Our bed was just as comfortable as ours at home (and we are very particular). Room TV was as large as our home TV - 47". Each room includes a frig and micro oven and coffeemaker. Free coffee and tea in lobby. Very clean overall! They seemed to be constantly vacuuming the hallways and cleaning the lobby. The office staff are very friendly and want to make sure that their guests are satisfied. Fresh warm homebaked cookies are served every evening. What more can I say? The price is right, well, more than right. We highly recommend it! We stayed there for 36 days while our home was being repaired due to a flood caused by a burst waterpipe and we hated to leave. We miss all the pampering we had at the Best Western!
Very nice hotel with friendly staff. We were 4 people sharing a room with two queensized beds. It was space enough and it was clean. The pool was a bit cold but otherwise everything was fine. The freeway was pretty noisy. We got a room away from it but if you would get one facing it, it could affect you.
Seamless communication and check-in, very nice and clean room, plenty of amenities, quiet, covered/open parking garage, expanded breakfast, and close to freeway. Will consider staying here regularly on trips to San Diego.
Beautiful room, very clean, extremely friendly and helpful service. The hotel was recently renovated and they did an amazing job with it; they replaced absolutely everything rather than just painting over. Breakfast is plentiful and delicious (if you don't mind microwaved eggs) and free coffee is available all day in the lobby. The Bath & Body shampoo, etc., smell wonderful.
Ok so I have stayed at this hotel MANY times before it was purchased by BW 3 months ago, and I will never come back. The laundry was broken, gym equipment equip broken, room charges are wrong, overcharged - can't even get Heather the manager to return my call & have left 4 messages for her. VERY SAD. Halls are hot, and unclean. Sheets not changed - spilled a coffee and asked didn't put the little plaque on to save the sheets - came in and they were still dirty... UGHHH
My husband and I stayed here for four nights while visiting family. The room was large, clean, comfortable, and the free breakfast plentiful and good. My husband liked the free newspapers, too. There is a pool which looked nice but we did not have the time to use it. We had a minor toilet issue which was taken care of by the time we returned to our room. The staff was friendly and helpful. The one caveat might be that since this hotel is about 50 feet from Interstate 8 (and our room faced this direction ) there is constant traffic as a sort of white noise. This did NOT bother us in the LEAST but it might be an issue for some people. We would stay here again.
We stayed at West Western in La Mesa specifically for a Chargers game. Our stay was for two nights. The staff was very friendly, offered us water bottles upon our arrival as well as our departure. We knew about there being a trolley to get to the Stadium and during check-in, the girls gave us the info on where to get to the terminal. It's about a mile. Very convenient! The room was very spacious and clean. The breakfast was different on Sunday and Monday morning. Plenty of cold and hot food, cereals, toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, on-demand pancakes, coffee, tea, juices, etc. I found surprising the check-out time was at noon, pretty late, I thought compared to other hotels where we've stayed before, which was great! There are only 3 restaurants nearby. Anthony's is a seafood restaurant and has a large parking lot between the restaurant and the hotel. Don't park there! The hotel staff warned us that overnight parking may trigger a tow! Regarding the trolley to the game, because La Mesa is about 8 miles away to the stadium, there was enough space to stand in the trolley. It got very crowded the closer we got to our destination. We left about 1:45 hours before the game. It gave us enough time to wait for the trolley, show proof of the trolley ticket at the Stadium, get lunch and find our seats. From Old Town to La Mesa on the trolley, it took about 45 minutes. I would stay at this hotel next time we visit the San Diego area!
I was skeptical of staying here with my family since when I first went to book there had been no reviews written. When we arrived I found out that was due to the change in ownership (Holiday Inn to Best Western). We stayed two nights over July 4th weekend. We did not hear any freeway noise and the kids and I loved the view including the freeway as silly as that sounds. Breakfast was wonderful. The bathroom amenities I was so stoked about, took a picture to brag to my sister in law who was staying at another hotel (Bath and Body Works Stress Reliever soaps, shampoos, and conditioner). Pool was well kept and good temperature as well as the jacuzzi. Hot chocolate, coffee, and tea downstairs was always well stocked. Beds are very comfortable. My family and I can not wait to stay here again!
I was in Spring Valley for conference. Some of us attending the conference stayed at this hotel. It's a small hotel. They serve a hot breakfast daily, which was really nice since there weren't any visible fast food eateries. There's a seafood restaurant next door. I was very surprised to see how nice my room was! I typically wouldn't have expected this from a Best Western Hotel. It was very clean. My bed was comfortable. There was a flat screen TV with tons of channels! The bathroom toiletries were from Bath and Body Works. Thank you for the Stress Relief! I would definitely stay there again.
We were visiting family in San Diego and flew from Orlando, Fl, we had a late flight and arrived in San Diego at about 2 AM, had reservations at a nearby hotel,we checked in and checked out the room and premises, we were very dissapointed and decided to check out immediately ! ( we lost $53!). And so we ended up at the Best Western and there we met Andrew at the nightshift front desk, he was very, very professional and friendly, made the check in very quick and gave us our different options, we were only going to stay for 3 days but instead we ended up staying foa a whole week! The entire staff , starting with Andrew is very friendly and helpful, the FREE breakfast is amazing! Will definetely stay there next time!
We arrived at around 2am and the room was very spacious and it had all the amenities you could ask for. The ling size bed was super comfy and the staff Amanda & Rose made us feel so welcomed. Will be back someday in the near future for sure.
