Just had a lovely weekend here with spa treatments and afternoon tea. Staff were professional and friendly. Room and bathroom comfortable, spa treatments were excellent with afternoon tea. Good choice of food for breakfast, lunch and evening meals. Enjoyed our visit and have booked again for later in the year.

    « Worst spa ever »

The hotel is a great location, but if you are coming to enjoy the spa I would suggest you pass. The spa treatments seem okay, but the facilities including the jacuzzi were horrible. The changing rooms were full of hair and dirty towels and you have to ask if you want a clean one. The worst bit was the jacuzzi. The glass enclosed hot tub was trapping the steam which due to the level of chlorine was stinging the eyes of everyone in it. We at first thought we were lucky to have it all to ourselves but when we entered the luke warm 'hot tub' after a few minutes it began to feel like we had been chopping onions for hours. I would suggest staying at this hotel for the view of the water and proximity to Dover castle but the spa should be closed.

    « Excellent service »

We stayed in two of the recently refurbished rooms, one with sea view. Both were excellent. Very comfortable beds and high quality furnishings and bathroom. From our arrival at reception, the service was great and we were made to feel welcome, even though they had a wedding going on. Good communication between reception and dining room. We'll be back.

    « Very disappointing!!! »

Stayed one night at the seaview double room which is spacious with a good view. Besides, the front office manager, Mr. Harvinder Singh was very helpful in bringing ice and burn gel when my wife was accidentally injured by a pot of hot water in the room. Having said that, the hotel disappoints us in several major areas. Firstly, the hotel's renovation to install air conditioners is underway, and OMG, we suffered from air ( maybe from generator, see photo) and noise ( hammer knocking) pollutions when both began next to our balcony at 9am. Secondly, we could clearly hear the footsteps of other guests on upper floor all day and night! Finally, the waiters of the restaurant were unprofessional and rude. We came for breakfast and stood at the unmanned entrance for some 30 seconds without notice. We managed to find an empty table ourselves but heard a waiter was deliberately mumbling to his colleague to complain that we sit like ghosts! I talked to him and he apologized superficially. We are international travelers and never came across all of above malpractices in one go at any hotel! Will never come back and highly recommend potential guests to think twice before spending their dollars there, unless immediate rectifications are made by the hotel management.

« Best place to stay in Dover! »

We love the property so much we wanted to stay another day, but it was booked. We have a lovely view over looking the water. It was conventiently located and three choice of place to eat on site. The restaurant, the bar and the coffee shop. We choice the coffee shop as you can get a lighter breakfast than a buffet. Best place to stay in Dover!! Room was a little small as it is an older property.

« Reasonable price and excellent location. »

Had a quick meal here when we got into town and wasn't disappointed. Clean room and the shower/bath was roomy and stunning. Would definitely return a visit here if ever back in Dover. Meal of fish and chips as we watched the sunset at the bar downstairs was excellent.

    « My Visit »

This is a lovely hotel at a convenient place to the beach. The room is a bit small, it is clean but has some weird smell. A bit overpriced but not bad. Hadn't tried the bar downstairs. I would suggest this hotel but may not make it the first choice if there is next time.

    « Paul & Kelly's wedding »

I can say without doubt we would recommend anyone books a wedding here. Right at the beginning 12 months prior the service and support we have recieved has been outstanding. Every wist we had for our day has been granted and nothing was too much trouble for all the staff. A special mention to Sian (events coordinator), she was fantastic, she kept us both at ease right up to the last minute with all our requests. The day itself went without a hitch from the word go. Sian took control of everything. The food provided was outstanding and this was echoed by all of our guests. The room (bridal suite) was out of this world with a lovely view and every facility we needed. The restaurant for morning breakfast was also excellent with very helpful staff and food perfect. Don't be fooled by What people say about Dover. Stay at this hotel and experience the fine service and the fantastic staff, you won't be disappointed. Paul & Kelly Gore

    « What a turn round »

Starting with being greeted as a valued customer, we were shown to our upgraded suite which was extremely well equipped. We enjoyed a very pleasant dinner served by attentive staff. Unfortunately we missed breakfast in order to take an early ferry. The hotel is conveniently situated for the ferry terminal, but due to long standing road works a detour is necessary.

« Excellent stopover if catching the ferry »

We stayed a night before a ferry to Calais and it was excellent. Rooms very nice, especially the bathroom. Everything was very clean, dining for dinner and breakfast was excellent, staff excellent, location about as close as you can get to the ferry. Great view of White Cliffs and Dover Castle from the front. Really good value ferry stopover

    « Jolly great weekend!! »

An amazing girly weekend, away from crazy London. The room were nice and cosy, lovely spa and great food (enough choices even though most of us are vegetarian and vegan) The hotel and spa staff put up with our group of 12 noisy, super excited girls in an absolutely brilliant way! Everyone was very friendly and extremely helpful. There was something wrong with the heating in our room on our first night but super sweet Daniel from reception brought us a heater within minutes even though we phoned him at 3am :) We will definitely be back again. <3

    « Great Stay »

Staying over at this hotel for two days in room 202. Hotels great service from check in Great room clean and great size, good room amenities nice sea view was a pleasant bonus. « Terrible Customer Service and Food »

Went here for a spa break over the weekend, it was terrible. The cleaner did clean the room properly nor did they replenish soap etc in the bathroom along with tea bag sugar etc.We had to get everything ourselves downstairs at reception - mind you we were on the 3rd floor. When we were suppose to get our massage they mistakenly put us in separate rooms rather than a couple's room. When we mentioned it, they told us if we change to a couple's room then we will only have 30mins massage though we booked 1 hour in a couple's room. Needless to say they ended our massage abruptly after 30mins, even though my partner had ask whether he could have an extra 2mins to massage his injured should. They just walked out they room and told us to get ready...The food tasted spoiled...both the steak and the chicken was very chewy. The lift wasn't working so we had to walk all the way to the red floor. IT WAS JUST HORRIBLE.

    « Fab Spa Day »

Booked the trio of treats for myself and 2 friends for a birthday treat. Spa was really nice, treatments good and lunch (on a Sunday) was a carvery which was really nice. Staff in the restaurant were amazing and so kind!

« Great location and service »

We stayed here on the 21st April 2018. This was our visit day in the UK and we drove out to Dover visiting the Castle etc. When we checked in they had some issues with the room we had booked but the upgrade us to a suite which was really nice. As it was a hot day we had a couple of drinks out the front overlooking the harbour and watching the world go by. We had a really nice dinner in the restaurant as well as a great breakfast in the morning. Superb location and the staff were great. Can highly recommend.

    « Beautiful location »

Had a one night weekend overnight stay here 2 weeks ago via a wowcher voucher. This included dinner, breakfast and a 30 minute treatment. Firstly I have to say..easy to find by car..it is literally a stones throw from the sea/ beach making it a perfect location. There was some outside refurbishment happening, but it was not a problem for us. Staff are lovely and friendly. We were in a twin bedroom facing the back street, so not really much to view. Found the room a little on the small side and almost thought we didn't have an en suite as it was hidden behind the bedroom door when you opened it! Very limited space! The waterfront spa was lovely though..which was in the basement of the hotel... decor, set up, atmsosphere..felt like we were in a different building....treatment was nice..( swedish massage). The downside of this whole experience was the beds, very uncomfortable...and the floors in the room were slanting so felt like you were on a listing boat...not nice...worst nights sleep I have had in a long time...and the room was really hot too. Overall the hotel is in a great location, beautiful spa, the food at the restaurant is nice, breakfast is lovely and has a great selection. Just a shame about the bad nights sleep.

« Great Sunday lunch with family »

The buffet style lunch was good quality with a fairly large selection of foods. There was a good selection of wine and the view from the veranda was great. The tables were a little close to each other for comfort, but judging by how full the restaurant was, the closeness was necessary.

    4
    « Good Value »

We stayed here with friends on a wowcher break. The hotel were very flexible about the offer and we managed to get our spa break on the dates we wanted (paid a little extra for a weekend). The hotel is lovely, old and loads of character. The spa we think had been recently renovated. It was okay but missing things like hooks for robes and the water in the Jacuzzi made our eyes hurt. In the relaxation room we were surrounded by banging workmen. Hopefully these are teething troubles. We'd definitely go again.

    « Excellent hotel n a very good location »

Great staff, decent rooms and excellent restaurant. All for a very fair price. Could do with air conditioning but otherwise very good. Only negative was water pressure- non existent pressure in the shower.

« Poor experience at the Spa would not recommend it »

I am a local and booked for a treatment at the spa for 4pm. I arrived at 3.55pm I was asked to sit and wait. The girl came back a few minutes later and took me to the quiet room to wait. I asked how long and she said half an hour. I said you have obviously forgotten to put the wax on. She covered up replying we have a problem with it today. Well that was not good enough I could have been contacted if there had been a problem. I did not have time to waste so went home. I Would have given this service 0 stars if I could and won't go back again.

« Nice little hotel on the beach of Dover »

We planed just one night in Dover before we continue our journey back home. The hotel is small and old but very clean. The people are polite and helpful. We were allowed to park at the back of the hotel for free. To the cons I have to mention the balcony with the amazing view to the see (in our superior room at least). We wanotes to receive our breakfast in the room for an additional 5 pounds but it didn't work. At first there was no ordering card in the room and then although we placed the card at the door at about 10am nobody collected it and of course no breakfast was brought. After all, the hotel management apologised and we received something to eat on our way for no charge. (Plus point here) The furniture is very old but not uncomfortable or disturbing worn off. The ceiling is high and the double bed pretty small. The floor is covered with carpet. I don't know if am coming back to Dover and if so if I won't be wanting to try another hotel but I wouldn't exclude this one from my options.

« Nice enought but not for us »

One night stay over on the first night of our honeymoon on our way to France which was eventful to say the least. A number of things seemed to be stacked against from the lack of instruction with regard to the long term Marina Road closure to having booked our evening meal twice but no record of hen we came to dine. A number of other things occurred but I must say that the staff were very helpful and understanding indeed. The management were conspicuous by their absence however. This Leadership and Management Skills Coach noted an air lacking leadership or management leaving the staff to react to issues from many guests i.e. more reactive than proactive.

« Overnight stay prior to ferry crossing »

A pleasant overnight stay which started our holiday off with a treat. The best western turned out to be a good decision following a visit to Dover Castle and pre holiday trip to France.Lovely sea views over the beach and harbour for breakfast with a full and tasty menu.

    5
    « Fantastic time »

We had a brilliant time! The staff are very friendly and helpful. We ate in the hotel Resturant and the food was very good and very tasty. We also enjoyed walking on the beach. Our room had a balcony with a table and chair where we could enjoy the beautiful views of the beach. I would recommend staying here as a couple or as a family.

    « Five star value »

We stayed here overnight before our cruise and the hotel exceeded our expectations for the price we paid. We booked direct with the hotel at their winter sale rate and found it was exceptional value. We stayed in a standard twin room and were delighted to have a sea view. The room was a good size for a standard room, bright and clean with comfortable beds and good linen. The bathroom was large and again very bright, although the sloping floor took a bit of getting used to. We had drinks in the bar and sat in a pleasant lounge area overlooking the sea. We had dinner in the restaurant and were impressed by the service and by the quality of the food. The staff were friendly and extremely efficient. Breakfast was adequate - could have improved on the cold buffet for people who don't want a cooked breakfast. Location was excellent, just a short taxi ride from both the station and the cruise terminal. Overall we had a good stay and would happily return if cruising from Dover again.

    « Overnight stay »

We stayed here recently and just for one night, mainly to make a day of it in and around the area and to see Dover castle (do go and see). Great price for one night in a small double room. Request was for top floor and away from lifts...they listen thank you. And this attention to detail repeats itself all the way through the hotel. Excellent service and great staff. Lovely looking hotel, if a tad tired in places. Good spa facilities but a tad small but serves the purpose. Bar and restaurant area is comfy and spacious. You don't feel like you're sitting on top of others. The main issue throughout the hotel from bathroom to changing room showers in the spa were the drains. They are either blocked or just amazingly slow to take water away. Therefore after a short while you're standing in ankle deep water. Overall would I stay there again, yes. Would I think twice and ask for a larger room, most definitely.

    2
    « Poor »

I did feel sorry for the hotel as the day we arrived there was a blockage in the bathroom that flooded and then led the water to come through the ceiling into the spa. The food at the restaurant as average. I had the chicken which was extremely dry. The rooms had a drastically sloping floor so make sure your balance is in check. On a plus the breakfast buffet had a good selection

    « Dover Marina Hotel »

Beautiful views of the marina from our hotel room. We ate at the restaurant both nights of our stay. The food was delicious and the hosts were very accommodating! The spa was lovely as well. I would definitely recommend using the spa and getting a message. Ask for Kaelly.

    « Easter weekend break »

My partner booked this as a surprise for me on my birthday. We arrived Saturday afternoon over an hour before we were supposed to and were greeted by staff who were happy to accommodate us early. As part of our package deal was 2 nights stay and a treatment of our choice at their waterfront spa. This also included full use of the gym, sauna, steam room and relaxation room. We also had included free evening meals from a set menu and free breakfasts for the Sunday and Monday before we left. The food was incredible!! Not too many options but a good variety of meats, fish, pasta and most options being gluten free. On the first night our table had been set up with some birthday decorations a nice touch that we did not ask for. Whilst the food on the set menu was good on the second night I opted to order from the a la carte menu as I wanted to see if the food was just as good. I was not disappointed! The roast duck is definitely something I would recommend. The service was quick and the waiters were there with a friendly smile but they also gave you time to eat your meals and not rush you. I was lucky enough to have a reflexology treatment on my feet and a full body massage and Indian head massage over the 2 days. The spa is well run and has a relaxed atmosphere. The therapists are well trained and know what they are doing. The facilities are well maintained and used frequently by the locals. My partner also had the Indian head massage and full body. When we went to our room the staff had put birthday banners up for me which was a nice touch. we were on the third floor with a sea view. The room was adequately furnished and clean. The mattress was a little hard but I think that is down to personal preference. The room at night was quite warm and even though there was a fan in the room it was uncomfortable to sleep in. My partner advised the night staff of this and in the morning when we went down for breakfast the staff had advised us that they will move us to another room, there was no fuss and they were happy to assist. The room was upgraded and had a balcony where we could look out on the sea front. We drove to the hotel and parking was about 20 metres from the hotel and our parking was free as part of the package. Overall our stay was great! We are definitely going to go back at least once a year. Would recommend this hotel for anyone that is looking to get away for a few days and enjoy a relaxing break where the staff do all of the hard work and make you feel welcome

    « 60th Birthday »

Stayed here on 24/03/18 for my mums 60th meal and surprise after drinks. Had to drop some stuff off early and the staff where very friendly, nothing was too much. We came back and checked in and was told we were on the 3rd floor. We had see views and the room was very spacious and extremely clean. The restaurant was very clean and the staff very attentive. The food arrived in good time and was delicious. After the meal we took over the bar area as there was so many of us and again nothing was too much and the bar staff were also extremely friendly and polite. We WILL return.

« Good standard hotel in great location »

Stayed for 2 nights for a midweek break wih my wife. Great location for ferry terminals and for Dover Castle. Small but well equipped and comfortable rooms . Took advantage of the winter offer which I thought was good value and will use it again if repeated. Eat from the cafe menu and it was very tasty. The staff are very friendly and helpful. My only slight criticism was the sausages at breakfast were served without any colour at all and did not look appealing. Overall would recommend this hotel.

« Afternoon tea and spa »

Had a fabulous afternoon at the Dover marina hotel! Started with a lovely afternoon tea and then treatments in the spa. Staff are really attentive and accomadating and my massage and facial were spot on ,will definitely be returning.

« Excellent customer service . Moderate stay »

After accidently selecting the wrong date on the booking order the staff finally found us a room which was brilliant as was our mistake. Room was ok, rm 301 needs repair to shower tap as was missing but still worked find . Would recommend if on short stay . Couldn't comment on the food but restaurant seemed busy at all times

    « HORRIBLE »

Stay away. We stayed 1 night. Got in late. Girl at front asked me if I wanted to use my debit card for any inhouse charges. I asked her if they placed any hold on card by opting to do this, she said NO. After we walked up and settled into room, I checked my bank account and they did put a $14 hold on my card. We then ordered room service. Food was poor quality and we did not eat it. ( for a 15 year old boy to not eat food, its bad) I also got a rash on both legs when I layed in bed. Had to sleep with pants on. Shower would not work. Had to run across hallway in morning, to a different room to take shower. we checked out the next morning. As we arrived in Paris, I went to take money out if ATM for taxi, and I could not. I looked online into my account and there were 3 separate charges from this motel. I immediately called them and the receptionist argued with me and told me that I only had 2 charges. When she finally let me speak, she then wanted me to send her paperwork from bank showing charges. Here I am on vacation, in a taxi and she wants me to send her paperwork. Never again will I ever go near this motel.

    « Fantastic Stay »

I stayed at the Best Western Dover Marina hotel when I was down in Dover on business in February. The location of the hotel offers spectacular views across the channel, however, Access is not the easiest given ongoing roadworks around the hotel. The room that I stayed in was very quiet, clean, modern and comfortable. It offered everything that I could possibly have wanted for a comfortable night. I did not eat at this hotel due to a late arrival but they did make me a breakfast pack up as I had to leave the hotel early in the morning which was very delicious and ample. The staff at the hotel were all incredibly friendly and could not do enough for me. They answered every question that I had thoroughly and didn't rush me away from the desk. I couldn't have asked for anymore. In conclusion, this is a great hotel where you can get a very comfortable nights sleep.

    « Our sewing weekend »

We held our 4th annual sewing weekend here last weekend and as usual the staff were all really helpful, the rooms immaculate and the food excellent. We were well looked after and will return next year...in fact we've booked 2020 as well! Parshad was really helpful rearranging our the Blenheim room to make it suitable for us to work in....

« Good hotel but not perfect to give 5 stars »

Hi everyone, I liked staying here with a sea view and spa but there are some problems. I have made the booking for the room and spa treatments on the same day about 10 days ago. I am glad they made the room booking but forgot about the spa and when we came it was obviously fully booked without my name on the list. A nice man from the reception helped to sort out this problem while spa management were just "sorry for inconvenience". And were offering next day afternoon... with two kids it was just an impossible otion. Also a bit cold in the room. The rest - dinner, breakfast, staff - all great, friendly, nice and warm atmosphere. Perfect.

    2
    « No improvement after 3 years »

It's not a traditional afternoon tea because of the following No loose tea selection Only cut bread Frozen cakes No cream for scone This is a lovely location and some simple improvements could make this so much better.

« Quaint boutique seafront hotel in Dover »

Saw a Groupon deal but booked a couple's package directly with the hotel for a Saturday overnight seaview room stay, dinner, breakfast and 30mins massage each in the spa. The booking and payment over the phone was straightforward. However I was transferred to the spa separately to book treatment times and book the dinner reservation at another attempt as the spa did not transfer me back. I had reached out to the hotel prior to arrival, as I was keen to ensure our stay went without a hitch. Suresh, the GM, was incredibly responsive and answered my queries succinctly. As it was a special occasion, the GM extended a couple of glasses of fizzy wine, which was very much appreciated. *Arrival/Check In* We parked up behind the hotel, there is a loading bay enough for 3 or 4 cars. I ran in to get the complimentary parking voucher for the car park behind the outlet shop less than 1 min walk away, also checked in at the same time. Took around 5 mins. This is an old boutique hotel, which retained its charm and also squeaky floorboards. The view of the sea is lovely. *The Room* We were in room 214, fairly close to the small lift. The room must have had a refurb but small by today's standards, however the building is around 180 years old! Sash windows afforded a lovely view from the bed, which was pushed close to the window. We found the room clean, warm and had all we needed for an overnight stay. There is adequate lighting in the main area room (light over bed, 2x bedside lamps and a lamp on the dressing table), unfortunately no light by the wardrobe as your enter. We used the torch on our mobile phones to light up the wardrobe to retrieve our clothes as light faded towards the evening. Tea and instant coffee was provided, with a kettle and a couple of mugs and glasses. TV hung on the wall opposite the bed, handy for watching the winter Olympics as we got ready. The bathroom was quaint with some floral tiles around the bathtub. I'd like to praise the hotel management in its efforts to do its bit for the environment! Not a power shower, but the shower head has an air inlet to give a stronger pulsating feel whilst using less water. There is also a hand pump shower gel/shampoo attached to the wall ? which minimises plastic toiletries bottles waste. However they did provide additional 30ml bottles of Gilchrist & Soames shampoo, shower gel, body lotion and a tiny bar of hand soap ? for guests who'd prefer that. *The Spa* As we settled in, the spa called our room and explained that they had a cancellation at the moment they called. They suggested we could take our treatment (one after another) immediately. We were happy with this and after 15 mins one of us were directed to the spa/relaxation area and I had my 30mins Swedish massage. Dawn was an incredible masseuse, firm constant pressure and was very professional. A credit to the spa and hotel! The spa has been recently refurbished and the changing room smelt fresh. There was a small gym, Jacuzzi to comfortably fit 8 people, steam room, sauna and a candlelit relaxation area (water and tea provided here). We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the spa! *The Dinner* They were running a special Valentine's weekend dinner and I did not upgrade us to it. Now this trip was a surprise to my wife, so when the maitre d' loudly exclaimed, ?You're on the Groupon deal aren't you? You can choose from the main course which is included and you can pay £4.95 extra for each starter or dessert.' If my wife didn't already know me well, I'd be mortified to have been found out I got this through a Groupon deal so publicly ? especially in front of a raucous 12 strong birthday party group! So advice to staff, try to be discreet. Not to be deterred, we giggled and ordered our main course and dessert with our waitress. Unfortunately we were disappointed with the dinner service. Our drinks order took some time to get right in a piecemeal manner. The main course came around 15 mins later. I won't lie, the food was delicious! The warm bread rolls were delightful. My wife was very happy with the rump steak (£5 supplement) and I thoroughly enjoyed my chicken in peppercorn sauce. But it took some effort to catch the staff's attention to clear our plates. As we had already ordered dessert, we waited patiently for around 15mins for them to arrive. Eventually our drinks were empty, the waitress come over to ask if we wanted another drink and if we'd like to order dessert. Explained that we'd already ordered dessert with her earlier, she then remembered and said yes, she'll chase up for us. Another 10 mins lapsed and she returned to take our dessert order again. I understand that the staff might have been flustered by the number of customers in the function room, so to avoid having to wait for a dessert which may never arrive ? I explained that we won't have the dessert after all and to get the bill. The bill arrived with the individual desserts listed on it. After some time, we caught the attention of the original waitress to query. She looked at us in quiet confusion as to why we'd not want to pay for the dessert. I reminded her that it has been over half an hour since we've had our main plates cleared and when she last came to our table to retake our dessert order (which was itemised on the bill), we conveyed that we won't be having dessert. The waitress left us without resolution, to clear another table and seemed to have forgotten us. Eventually we caught the attention of another waitress, explained the situation and finally got the corrected bill. Phew! Our sitting was at 7pm and we left at 8:35pm? for what ended up to be a one course dinner. *Breakfast* We woke up bright and early and got down to the breakfast buffet just before 7am. Saw the sunrise, which was glorious! The wait staff at breakfast was the complete opposite of the dinner staff. They were attentive, efficient and had a smile on their face. They replenished our pot of tea when asked. I enjoyed the make your own waffles and build your own English breakfast. They also provided healthier alternatives like fruit, yoghurt and museli. *Check Out* Check out was quick, just had to pay for dinner. I had spilt tea from my takeaway cup as I stepped out of the lift, one of the male front reception staff was quick to clean up after me! Sorry! When the lovely receptionist asked if we enjoyed our stay, my wife nudged me to stay quiet about our dinner experience as she didn't want to hear me rant again. No fear, since I was still busy cleaning tea off myself! *Overall* This is a good hotel in Dover with free parking and we certainly had a memorable break. Staff was generally upbeat and very helpful. The Spa was the hotel's strength and the breakfast was great. Just be mindful of the hotel's age and avoid function room for the lack of staff attentiveness (the food was great), then I'm sure you'll have a very enjoyable stay.

    « Valentines weekend »

We booked a 2 night stay over valentines weekend and had a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxed stay. We enjoyed the central location of the hotel and found the building to be clean, busy and organised. The bar area is modern with friendly staff and the prices reasonable too. Check in was a quick and easy process made even better when we found out we would have a balcony added to our room too! The breakfast as well as the food in the restaurant was well presented and tasty. The spa is a great place to escape and is also modern and clean. The room itself was spacious and the facilities extensive. The view of dover castle as well as the white cliffs made it easy to wake up. Reception staff especially Harvinder and toni are friendly and polite and will go out of their way to do anything you require, this made the stay as memorable as it will be. 10 out of 10

    « Disappointing family rooms »

Checked in around 8pm after a very long journey with two young children. Had booked a family room for myself, husband, 5 year old and 2 year old. On the website it said we should get a double and two singles or two doubles. Upon going to our room we found three single beds. For 4 of us. I traipsed back down to ask to query how we were meant to sleep 4 people in three beds and the gentleman who was on reception (seeming very stressed) offered to move us. He informed me that the new room would be a double and a pull out double. That seemed fine. Went to the new room and found a double and a pull out single. By this point we were so tired that I couldn't face moving again so I just called down for a travel cot for the littlest (which to be fair arrived very promptly). The new room though seemed to have all of the hot pipes for the whole building running through it and was boiling. We opened up the windows but didn't want to open them too much with a climbing two year old around so spent the entire night sweltering! Husband said that breakfast was excellent but I didn't have chance to try it as we had to get to the ferry. Overall seemed like a nice hotel but disappointed with the family rooms.

« Sleepless in Dover marina »

We had a 2 night stay at Dover Marina from Sunday 11 until Tuesday 13 Febuary 2018. On arrival the reception area was busy with guests a live jazz band was playing. Check in was smooth and a helpful receptionist gave us car park voucher and directed us to the car park at the side rear of the hotel. We found our room with little difficulty and were dismayed to see a used food tray directly in front of the door to our room. Once inside the room it was small clean and warm. The room had a direct seaview that was lovely. The bed was a small double bed (!!??) and seems like a tight squeeze for two forty-something. We later complained about the bed and was informed that the " bed is standard size and we are not the 1st to complain about it" During the night there was strong wind. The bedroom window seems to have been broken and banged all night. The cold wind coming in through the broken window was chilling!!!! Needless to say, we both had very little sleep the 2 nights owing to the small, bony uncomfortable bed and the banging of the window.

    « Good standard »

The hotel is clean and tidy. The bed was really comfy. The breakfast was adequate and the staff were friendly enough. Free parking at the car park around the back of the hotel. The food at the restaurant was to a good standard and the bar prices were reasonable. The only down side was the shower head was too weak and seems to take forever to feel clean!! Great views onto the sea front.

    « Pleasant stay »

We spent 2nights here in early Feb 2018, the room was very well presented and clean, we had a lovely sea view overlooking the ferries coming in to port. I wouldn't call the food fine dining but it was nice enough for the price we paid. The staff were helpful and polite. Would certainly stay here again.

« Lovely place great staff.. »

I was intending to stay just the one night, but due to feeling ill on the day of departure to France urgently booked the last room free to rest another day. Reception and staff were really helpful and a big thanks to them for sorting me out with early re check in and taxis to the doctors etc. The hotel has a high level of service for it's rating. Both rooms I stayed in were very comfortable, my room service food was a real treat especially the poached eggs and Haddock breakfast.. Hotel is well located, you can watch the ferries and harbour from the front rooms. Downstairs café open all day was a bonus. I slept brilliantly both nights. GPS directions seem to have not updated the fact that the west end of the esplanade road is closed, you need to go to the ferry port entrance roundabout and head west to access the hotel. Easy parking outside and hotel has free car park. Great place, will re-jig my journeys to the UK in future just to stay here!

« Cheeky few days in Dover »

This hotel is very clean, warm (in January) & comfortable. Staff are efficient. Food very nice. We had a spacious room and bathroom on the fourth floor, with a nice view of the harbour. I liked the room decor and furniture. It looks like it has been fairly recently decorated as it is quite ?fresh?. Breakfast was plentiful. I had porridge - very nice - and a cooked breakfast (a buffet that you could help yourself to). There was plenty of fresh fruit, yogurts, a large variety of juices on offer and breads and marmalades/jams/honey. They offer gluten free options too. If returning to Dover, we would definitely consider returning here.

My wife and I visited on Friday where we sat with 35 other friends for our New Year meal. As per we had all chosen our meal from the menu provided. The meal was in a private function room and we were royally looked after from the time of our arrival. The staff room the function manager to the waiters and waitresses made sure that we were looked after and that we enjoyed our stay. Although this is an annual dinner. Anyone can do what we do and arrange your own private function and very competitive rates and I know you would be well looked after.

    « Fantastic stay. »

I stayed at this lovely hotel with my husband on Saturday evening. It was a last minute booking and I was very impressed with the price we paid for the room. I booked a double room with a sea view and couldn't fault it in any way. The room was warm comfortable and welcoming and the sea view was amazing. We decided to pre book breakfast which was very good with a good choice of cooked and continental food on offer. We were so impressed we will be returning as soon as the opportunity arises. Thank you for the perfect stay.

    « Weekend stay »

We have stayed at this hotel twice now and enjoyed both stays. The food is very good as are the staff especially Ben in the bar whose knowledge of the area was excellent. We had a cream tea on the Saturday which was perfect. The only downside was the room was really cold with only one radiator and the decor is getting very tatty. Overall a lovely stay.

    « Comfortable »

Arrived at the hotel in the late evening got a welcoming reception. Checked in and went to our room. Decided to get room service as we hadn't eaten. Phoned down and got no answer, then tried to call the reception and still no answer. In the end we used our phone to ring the hotel number and asked for room service amd explained what had happened. After ordering we waited for the food to arrive, it was brought to the room by 2 members of staff, who when they came in seemed to snigger as it was to men sharing the same room. The food was nice cannot complain but a bit over priced. We didn't get any discount for the trouble we had ordering. Went down for breakfast in the morning, a very large selection of fresh food. The standard of food was high and the staff in the restaurant were very helpful and polite. When we came to settle the bill, they had over charged us but luckily we noticed before we paid. Overall a comfortable but older hotel.

    « The SPA »

I would like to leave a great review to Sara, that works at the SPA. I had a FANTASTIC MASSAGE with her. Despite being so young she has the hands of a professional that has years in the trade. I would go back for the massage on a twist of a finger ! Thank you Sara for the great 1 hour that you gave me. HIGLY RECOMMEND her.

    « NEEDS REFURB »

We stayed on the 2nd floor for one night and the floors were so squeaky! You can hear everyone moving/walking upstairs which is a shame. The small TV in our room was bent as it was hanging off the wall... the room itself was tiny! The bed was a very very small double. The bathrooms was so small too and inside the showers were dirty. For a quick stay this hotel does the job but it's so so old

    « Was very disappointed! »

We used this hotel as a check point as we was driving to Amsterdam for the new year. There was 4 Adults 2 rooms for 2 nights, The 1st night on the 29th the 2nd on the 1st Jan. The 1st night we was on the 4th floor. As soon as we got in the room it was freezing cold as someone had left the window open! The room looked ok, A little old fashioned. There was a small tv with coffee/tea making area. The shower in this room was good. (powerful) That night was a nightmare, The bed was so uncomfortable, it was very old and springy and the slightest movement made it creek! You could here the tv very loud next door and even hear people convocations! We only had a few hours sleep that night! 2nd night: The 2nd night we was on the 3rd floor, A little bigger room. The bed was a lot comfier! (Thank god) The shower was a joke, water only just came out with very low pressure, It was so frustrating! Our room was next to the stairs and all through the night it was bang bang, people stomping up and down the corridor! The other two with us went to check in on 1st Jan (2nd night) at 4pm...So 2 hours after the check in time and there room wasn't ready! They got given another room after waiting 20 mins, The room that they got stunk really bad of damp! Breakfast: Breakfast was only the highlight of the stay! It was nice, sat at the window with a sea view, They had everything to have a full English, and you could order fried eggs. Location: Was just a 5 min drive in to the town with plenty of shops and takeaways, We ate at a fish and chips not so far and was really nice. Before we came we got told the spa area wasn't open as it was being refurbished. But when we was there they said it was open, again disappointing! Would i stay again: No

    « Excellent Service »

Professional and warm staff. Very good and attentive service. Recommend it. We broke a double bedroom but decided to go for 2 single beds. Anne at the front desk, professional and caring, did change the room but it was too small. So again I requested to change it and she not only did it but helped me to take my personal belongings to the final room. Clean and quite. The personal warm and professional. Do recommend it.

We had a one night Groupon deal , which included double room , main course meal , breakfast and 1 treatment each in the Spa . I thoroughly enjoyed the break and it was fantastic value for money . The room was warm and cosy , and fell asleep to the swell of the sea , which got a bit wild during the night . The evening meal was in my opinion delicious and the breakfast had everything you could possibly want in one sitting . The back massage was the icing on the cake . All the staff were friendly and efficient. I would definitely visit again especially to get away for relaxing mini break . Perfect , thank you Marina Spa Hotel .

    « Ok »

Room was reasonable, nice sea view but a tad small. Love the location of this hotel and the decor downstairs in the bar and reception area. We ordered food from the bar (sausages and mash) they were fairly pricey so we were expecting decent quality. Very cheaply made sausages not very nice. We also got a burger from the room service menu which was very over done and barely edible which let the stay down. Other than that a nice looking hotel just need to work on their food and standard of customer service.

« Outdated rooms and toilet facilities. »

The hotel should go through complete renovation and overhauling. It's a complete mess and shouldn't be called a four star hotel. Completely disappointed. rooms very old. Not impressed at all, although it's in a good location.

    « Decent dinner »

My friend and I were in Dover for a concert and had planned to eat dinner in between a Meet & Greet and the main show. We asked at the bar if they served food and how long the wait would be - the bartender said it depended on what we ordered, so we made decisions and he said 30 minutes or possibly longer, which was fine. Our food came out in maybe 15 minutes, hardly a long wait. Food was good, wine was good, washrooms were clean. The bar area was a bit dirty from those attending parties in the restaurant (paper hats and whatnot on the floor) but it was pretty quiet and comfortable. I'd return.

    « Relaxing get away »

I was in this hotel with my sister for a weekend get away in September 2017. The best thing about this hotel is the location. It is right in the middle of the Dover Marina, across the road from the beach. The view from the room if you have a seaside room is beautiful, calming and relaxing. The food is great and the staff are wonderful. The location enables you to wonder about on the beach. We used the Spa and the gym, the massage was great also. Nice and modern amenities.

    « Ruined Christmas Party »

Our party was booked months ago here for Saturday 16th December, 3 course meal and disco in the hotel! Plus some of us booked hotel rooms as well, so 26 of us booked up and have fully paid, with assurances from the hotel that it will not be overbooked as per last year when we were squashed in like sardines!!!!! Last week we were informed ?we have decided to upgrade your party to the Winter-wonderland at the cruise terminal, give you free mini buses there and back, and it won't cost you any extra'! This week we've been informed that there will be NO Christmas party in the hotel on the 16th December only this one at the cruise terminal!!!!! Now our booking was done months ago with the understanding that we would be in the hotel not some place down the road To say that my husband and I are fuming is an understatement!!!!!! The hotel could've informed us when we booked that there wouldn't be a Christmas party in the hotel that night not left until less than 2 weeks before!!!! On your website it states that book your Christmas party nights early as Friday and Saturday nights are at a premium and book up fast!! Which is what we did!!!! So now are we the only party group to be cancelled for the 16th December??? Which in our minds is a very popular night for your Christmas party???? Anyone else had this done to them???? As the hotel say the only Christmas party is at the cruise terminal on the 16th December?????? Very poor customer relations from a well known hotel group who have changed our Christmas party with only 2 weeks to go but surely they knew this months ago when we booked?????!?? The hotel have informed us that the food will be cooked at the hotel and bought down to the cruise terminal. The hotel have also said that the boiler had broken down and that they would ensure that there would be some heaters in the room! Due to all the above the hotel have now lost our custom and will definitely not return ! Shame on you Best Western Plus Dover Marina Hotel ???????????????? I have had to rate this 1 but it would have been a zero if possible!!!!!

Booked a spa weekend away from hustle and bustle of London. And it was really good. The location is amazing and there is a parking available. Rooms are nice and have got everything you need for a good stay. We also had a chance to enjoy English breakfast as well as their spa facilities. Not to be missed. It was only 30 minutes massage included in my package, but it was one of the best back massages in my life. Enjoy it:-)

« Lack of decent shower ruined a good hotel stay.. »

Stayed here for three nights on the forth floor. Shower had next to no water pressure and water dribbled out as a fine mist. Complained at reception who supposedly sent a maintenance person while we were out to have a look at it. The shower was the same when I got back and when I told reception she said it may be because someone else was having a shower at the same time! This experience otherwise ruined a good hotel stay. I would recommend staying here as long as you're happy to have a bath everyday instead of a shower.

    « Comfort with a view! »

We stayed here on the sat just gone as were given a hotel break away last Christmas. Booking in was fine although was told we had to pay a supplement to upgrade to a double room, however if you become a best western member you can bypass this charge. First impressions, clean, modern, friendly staff and busy. Located on the sea front of Dover with de Bradley wharf shopping behind (this is for the more mature clientele!!) We booked in for dinner at 7:30, was told there was a private function on in the main restaurant so we would be seated in another. Room was a good size, with wardrobe, desk, tv and unit with tea and coffee making facilities, iron and board, towels and had the on the wall all in one shower gel/ shampoo. Note out room was freezing all night as the previous people had clearly turned off the rad, our friends that stayed in the room had their radiator on and was boiling! Hotel has a lift up to all floors. Spa was fully booked and the sauna and steam room was closed due to refurbishment so never got a chance to try that out. Dinner- food was good nothing spectacular. Portion sizes were small! Breakfast- for us was included and all you can eat. Plenty to choose from from full English to cereals, porridge, meats and pastries. The waiter brings over the tea and coffee and there are plenty of juices to choose from. All in all a nice hotel in a good setting. If I needed to stay in Dover again I would stay here.

« Not bad at all! »

Spent 2 nights here and we liked it on the whole. Staff all nice and location great. Room was basically ok as it was clean and had everything we needed but the bathroom needed a bit of attention. Water issues in general I think but looks like they're doing improvements to the hotel. We had afternoon tea one day and it was very good. Price we paid was fair for the standard of hotel.

Stayed here for a weekend with my partner as a getaway very expensive not very modern at all had to ask to change rooms as the room had a damp smell to it not worth the £250 it cost us for 2 nights have stayed better for cheaper parking also further away than expected

« Third stay at this fine hotel, best choice in Dover. »

The views from the first floor rooms with balconies are fabulous. Get one of these if you can. Sure the lift is small and old, the stairs contorted and squeaky but the high quality of the staff and food compensate adequately. Best choice in town. Highly recommended.

« Two night stay from Belgium with our children to visit Dover and Canterbury. »

The hotel is well positioned and very close to the Boat ferry. We asked on check in for a room with a good view - after reading poor reviews. We were then given 218 which was good and large enough for us. Yes the room does slope and the bathroom is old fashioned but the hotel is very old - so that is to be expected. It would have been good to have told us about the work on the front with scaffolding - but it did not bother us as they did not work early or late. The staff were mostly young and kind. The breakfast waiter was very friendly and let our child play on the piano. Breakfast was good and all was hot and seemed freshly made. We ate dinner in the restaurant the food was good but the portions way too small for us - we were still hungry. But that is probably due to the low cost - 15 pound for 2 courses is very cheap. We slept well as our room was quiet. We have stayed in lots of hotels and this seemed good value for money

    « Afternoon tea with a view »

Afternoon tea comes in many differ varieties and this is one of the better ones. 3-4 different sandwiches, excellent scones and a decent assortment of sweets and cakes. Add good service and a view of Dover harbour to it and you have a pleasant afternoon meal.

i booked this hotel out of curiosity, as it used to be the White Cliffs hotel when i lived in the area many years ago. i was slightly disappointed because i thought i would wake up and see the old harbour in front, but i was in the back and over looking a tired old road, still the room was clean and comfortable, the bathroom was a bit tired looking and could do with a lick of paint, but hey it served us well free parking and very friendly staff, and it was good to be back in my home town,

« Spa and afternoon tea »

Visited the hotel for a spa treatment and afternoon tea for my mums birthday present. Got a good deal on groupon and wasn't expecting much from the reviews on here but was really lovely. The ladies in the spa were very warm and professional me and my mum had an express manicure and sat in the relaxation room. We didn't feel rushed or uncomfortable. The afternoon tea was more than generous and they even let us box up what we couldn't manage to finish. The scones were delicious! Lovely sea view. Overall fantastic value for money.

The treatment was lovely a Indian head massage which was very relaxing and then moved on to afternoon tea which was amazing a nice view of the seafront . Friendly attentive staff clean hotel would definitely recommend.

    « Disappointing Bath/Shower »

I stayed here last night after working offshore for a month. I fancied a night in a proper bed, a bath and generally a bit of a wind down. The staff were really nice, the room too but unfortunately there wasn't enough water pressure to fill the bath and the shower barely got me wet. They offered to change rooms but I couldn't be bothered with the hassle and the moment had passed anyway. In fairness, 10% was knocked off the bill but for a room that was more than £90/night, a proper bath/shower shouldn't be too much to ask. Great view over the harbour.

    5
    « Outstanding service »

This hotel is well positioned on the Dover seafront and has plenty of parking on the main road, free overnight. A nice bar, good restaurant and clean rooms ..... perfect. But what made it for us was the professional attitude of reception staff when we told them we had discovered our shower didn't work only in the morning; they immediately compensated us by removing from our bill the previous nights dinner cost. Outstanding service.

    « Very Disappointing »

I know the location of this hotel and was looming forward to a pleasant stay. On arrival first impressions were good and the lobby area looked impressive. There was a slight glitch as the receptionist was not sure if the room was ready.(despite me arriving after 2pm). He was going to put me in another room but apparently the hotel was full. Eventually he got word from the housekeeping staff that it was ready and my room was located on the third floor. The room was average size and was facing inwards into town which meant there was a lot of noise from traffic going to and from the ferry terminal. This is a common problem with Dover seafront hotels (Having experienced the same at the premier inn up the road). Having unpacked I found the toilet would not flush (cistern valve had gone) so I spoke to reception who promised to get it fixed whilst I went into town. In my return it had been fixed with a new unit so that was a positive. The room itself was very hot even in mid October. There is no air condition and when I tried to open the window it was restricted to a small gap. There was an electric fan provided but as I found out late at night it did not work .The shower flow was also quite poor with low pressure. I had a terrible sleep which was not helped by the chorus of pigeons outside and hearing people go in up and down the creaking floorboards. I would not stay here again and would feel cheated if I had paid full price. The two faults in my room are items that should have been picked up before the room was used by a guest. Although it's an old building I'm pretty sure more can be done to prevent the pigeons from taking residence and from what I could see there were no measures in place. I suspect this hotel makes a healthy income from cruise passengers on one night stops and those going on the ferries and certainly not repeat business. Very disappointing and I will not use it again.

Hotel is in a nice seafront location and the common areas and room was very clean, we had a meal in the hotel and breakfast and all food was very good. Negatives - bar area does not have a lot of seating and minor things like having to look up how to make a cocktail and running out of straws - shouldn't happen in a good hotel The big disappoint was the room, as part of the package we got 'best available' but I would not stay at the hotel again because of the room (405). There was a TV on the wall at the bottom of the bed and the space between the TV and bed is very small, the temperature in the room was very warm even in October with a fan on all night, outside the windows was scaffolding. At some point the room appears to have been two smaller rooms and directly above the bed was a very large beam and when laying in the bed this felt claustrophobic with the beam directly above, especially because the ceilings are quite low. Overall would not choose to stay again, if I wanted to stay in Dover I would choose the PremierInn along the road.

    « Very Active Area »

Check in went well. The elevator to the rooms is tiny and very slow. Superior room with balcony sea view, was clean and a good use of space. The birds make quite the mess of one of the chairs on the balcony, but the view of the busy port is great. The description of the bed was "memory foam", not sure that was the case. If it is, then it was not like the memory foam we have at home. Either way, the bed was comfortable. Our room (104) is located over the dining room. This means that muffled music will be heard during the times that the dining room is open. So, it will either lull you to sleep or drive you crazy. Know yourself.... This location makes walking to all the site quite possible. Plus it is quite the site itself.

    « Not quite 4 star »

The evening meal was really very good indeed. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. There is free parking in De Bradlie Wharf, but I was a bit nervous of leaving the car out of sight as it is not the best of areas at night. The breakfast was ok, but it would have been nice to have fried eggs available rather than to order, The scrambled egg was like all scrambled egg that is left in a warming pan. Even in October the rooms were vey warm. There was a fan, but it did very little to cool the room down. There were no sanitary bin in the bathroom. I did get a cheap rate so cannot complain too much, but I would not pay the full rate.

« Birthday Celebration Afternoon Tea »

Fantastic service from the planning through to the delivery of afternoon tea for 31 people - nothing was too much trouble, the sandwiches and cakes were plentiful and delicious and we were looked after extremely well. It was a lovely afternoon and we all, without exception, had a great time!

« First visit to restaurant »

This was my first visit to The Waterfront for a business lunch. So glad I picked this place. We sat in a window seat with amazing sea views, but the whole of the atmosphere and decor gives such a nice ambience. Lunch was really tasty and great value for money. What sets this place apart from others is the service. It's like walking into a top end london restaurant with smartly dressed staff, who also have a personality! Nothing was too much bother and our waiter, Par, was spot on, professional and friendly. This place has certainly won my business, more business meetings I think!

    « Great place »

Over all this hotel is a great place to stay, the rooms are clean abs well kept, the staff are friendly and helpful. I wss here as a wedding guet abd the food was amazing at the reception although prices on bar were typical the South prices. the only minor things I had an issue with was I had no idea my card would need to taken to gave me credit for the hotel i got my money back in check in but hotel needs to have this info somewhere. Also when I wss there on a sat night either the people next to us are people above us kept banging every 5 seconds I was to I'll to get out if bed but it a minor issue I had.

    « Book Early »

We booked this hotel room quite some time before the night of our cruise. The price almost doubled and the hotel was full. It was old but nice, quite unlevel on the top floor. We dined in the dining room but were unable to book in for the Sunday English lunch. We arrived early so unable to check in as well but we left our luggage there and walked into town which was an easy walk. The only issue we had was the shower "peed" out and we had to wait awhile to get the one and only elevator to take our luggage down in the morning. The hotel was great getting taxis for everyone the next morning seemed to go smoothly.

« Only stay if you can get a room on the 2nd floor! »

We stayed here two years ago before a cruise. We had a room on the 2nd floor that was very roomy which we thoroughly enjoyed. There was an issue with our reservation when we went to check in - it only showed we had two people. We had three. The desk clerk was not very sympathetic to our situation and wasn't very pleasant to deal with. The clerk working beside her offered to give her a room that she showed available on the 2nd floor but the clerk helping me said "no - its already taken!" I really think she just didn't want to give it to us! We were given a room on the 3rd floor which was incredibly small. It only had a full size bed so our daughter had to sleep on a mattress on the floor. With three people, three large suitcases and a mattress on the floor, there was no room to move around. There is no air conditioning in the room. There was a standing oscillating fan but the windows are so small, you can't get any type of fresh air in the room. Again, since the room was so small, it heated up quickly when we started taking showers in the morning.

Quaint hotel with friendly staff and wonderful breakfast buffet. Hotel is about a 30 minute walk from the ferry terminal but an easy walk to the town, local restaurants, pubs, castle, tunnels, and cliffs.

    « Could do better! »

We returned to this hotel to stay while meeting up with friends, as usual the room was very good in fact better than usual as we had a balcony. The evening meal was good though not as good as we have had on previous stays and certainly the staff were not as welcoming. Breakfast was ok but some items rather cold which was disappointing. All in all not as I remember from previous trips here & having paid substantially more not value for money.

    « Two night stopover. »

We arrived on Friday evening and left on Sunday morning. I was with my two grown up sons and we shared a 'family room'. The first night we were given a standard room which was certainly not a family sized room. Vicky on reception very kindly arranged a room change to a much more appropriately sized room. The evening food was excellent and the service was good. Breakfast was quite poor, it was cold on the first morning and we were not allowed to sit on certain tables on the Sunday as they had been setup for lunch (it was 9:00)! We were asked to sit in the very bright verandah - we refused and they eventually said that they would re set a table for breakfast. Whilst we were there (30 minutes), this happened to every other guest that arrived - bonkers. The bar staff could to with a personality makeover, one chap. A Kevin de Bruyne lookalike was as miserable as sin both evenings. They ran out of a certain cider on Friday and it was not restocked for Saturday, no apology simply take it or leave it attitude. We will not return.

« Not as good as I remember »

Don't accept room 106! Loud music comes up from the restaurant through the floor. I thought it was a disco and went downto see, it's just the piped music in the restaurant and it started again with breakfast at 6.30! Terrible!

    « Wedding »

Wedding breakfast and evening reception held at this delightful venue. Staff were very helpful and quickly corrected any minor hiccups. Overall the day flowed smoothly. The food was complimented by all the guests. Lovely, spacious function room with air conditioning. Bridal suite was clean and comfortable with enough room for preparations. We enjoyed our experience very much.

Stopped here for a sandwich with a friend recently. Service not particularly quick but the food we ordered was good. We each had a sandwich and shared a bowl of chips. Plus two coffees. This hotel wins because it has a lovely view of the sea.

Refused 1st room which was awful-small,cramped, very tired and smelly. 2nd room small, no AC, absolute lack-lustre, very 'tired', poor quality bed & an awful bathroom-in dire need of refurbishment. Would not recommend this establishment.

« Avoid at all costs »

Booked in January for a stay in early September. Got charged in full at the time and the hotel seemed unprepared to provide a receipt for the £126. Apparently a refurbishment was underway which raised expectations though mixed but generally poor reviews dampened my enthusiasm. Do not go here with hopes, better still sleep on a park bench. The room was extraordinarily stuffy and thanks to health and safety the sash was restricted preventing all but a trickle of fresh air. The shower was a dribble and the fan in the bathroom was extremely noisy and must certainly have dusturbed other guests. The hotel was noisy on the promenade and a constant flux of light colours made you feel as if you were sleeping in Picadilly Circus if not Billy Smarts. The hotel parking was in an open lot. Prices for cheap wine were staggering. If a refurb has taken place it hss not addressed flanking noise transmission. Should have been demolished really. Truly awful

This is a great old style hotel. It is in very good condition and well maintained. All the staff are very friendly and welcoming. The room was small and overlooked the port. The buffet breakfast was excellent with a good choice.

    « Don't stay here !! »

Stayed here on 5.8.17 Catching early ferry and thought we would treat ourselves to a night here before our holiday started......normally do a cheaply but this would be a treat. Entrance and reception area fine......then we got to our room which was really small but opening the curtains was biggest shock!!!! All you could see was scaffolding and plastic wasn't expecting a spectacular sea view but it was terrible. We decided to go straight out and only come back at bedtime. Got back at 10ish went to bed and the noise started,,,,,,was it old pipes or plastic blowing against window not sure called reception who sent someone up to investigate after a few minutes could decide on what it was went to see if there was another room he could move us to. Soooooooo at that time we had to pack things back up and he helped us to move to other end of corridor. When we checked out I assumed the incident would have been noted and we would be reimbursed our room cost girl on reception told us we would have to take it through Aroma who we had booked it through. I did that on return waited for response and was informed we weren't being reimbursed or a reduction being made. I can't believe that there are a team of people who feel it is okay to offer that level of service and feel it's ok !!!!!!! Like most of you we both work really hard for our money and this was a luxury spend for us.......we were spending the next two weeks camping in France, I'd like the management team at the hotel to have some thought about how they treat us their customers and ask WOULD THEY BE HAPPY WITH THE SAME SERVICE????

    « Fast wifi/slow lift »

We chose this hotel for a number of non-conventional reasons - we set a distance from home criteria and this popped up offering hat appeared to be good value in what looked like a comfortable setting. We stayed three nights and have no real complaints. We stayed room only and headed out for breakfast each day. The room was comfortable and clean and the standard of cleanliness in the hotel in general seemed good. Staff were helpful and friendly, always a smile, which is appreciated. I have given this a 'very good' rating because it was just that, it wasn't ;excellent' but it is better than average. The two things really worth comment are wifi and lift. Quite often in a hotelI find wifi can slow down if you are too far from the router, well not here, from virtually anywhere in the building, and even outside, wifi was very quick and didn't falter in our tine there. The lift on the other hand is something else - compact and bijou for certain but it it glacially slow, you could almost believe there was someone in the basement winding it by hand! The gym seems to be undergoing some work at the moment and th staff on duty down there were probably the weakest link in the building.

« Hit and miss, a hotel that caters for over-nighters. »

Although the staff were very helpful and accommodating the rooms were poor and the services available at the hotel were hit and miss. The hotel clearly plays up on their location close to the cruise ship terminal and their waterfront location. And this makes it quite expensive compared to staying elsewhere in town. There were a lot of cruise ship / ferry guests staying one night. So the hotel can get away with a level of service that doesn't anticipate repeat customers. We were staying 3 nights and arrived around 10:30pm on a hot night, hoping to have some food. But apparently the kitchen had just closed and there were no other restaurants that would be open nearby except for some rubbish pizza chain! That was very surprising since Dover isn't such a small town. But the hotel was able to rustle up some pretty average sandwiches which we enjoyed at the bar. The biggest single problem with the hotel is that it was hot and with no air conditioning. We had paid a premium price for a sea-view room which turned out to be a very small room near the top floor. It's an old building, almost quaint, a very old hotel with floors that are not quite flat, but that means some standard mod-cons like A/C are missing. We could only open the window a crack, and fans had been provided, but we sweltered in the top of this old building and couldn't get any air circulation through the window. We just didn't sleep. The next morning we asked to move to another room and the desk staff, who were always very friendly, were able to move us to a slightly bigger and slightly cooler room. It wasn't even so hot outside, but the building had accumulated a lot of heat. The breakfast was super expensive (something like 20 pounds each), so we found some nice cafes a 10 minute walk into the town. We had cocktails at the bar 2 nights. On the first night they were really nice, but on the second night I could have sworn that they used the wrong spirit (or none at all) since they were very watery even after we complained and they remade one of them. The bar staff looked very inexperienced. So all up, given how much we paid for an expensive sea-view hot-box with a window that wouldn't really open, I would recommend staying elsewhere in Dover.

    « Lovely Family Function »

Delicious family lunch in a beautifully decorated function room with a lovely view of the English Channel. The service was impeccable from the moment we arrived. The catering manager and team sorted everything concerning meals and catering for our children prior to our arrival and the food was delicious. The service was considered which was really nice, not rushed so we could enjoy ourselves but always on hand and aware of when to clear and when to offer - we were really well looked after and thoroughly enjoyed it especially as on a beautiful sunny day like we had this hotel is a little gem. Highly recommend and will definitely be going again.

« Hot and small room. »

Room was very hot and small. Bed uncomfortable. Very basic and not a good night's sleep. Food we had in bar was ok and staff were friendly. Room is definitely over-priced for what you actually get. Wouldn't stay here again.

« Older style hotel with fantastic location »

The hotel is right on the waterfront ie just a road then water with uninterrupted views across the harbour. The bar, restaurant and some rooms provide the same view. Average room that had no working fridge so I had to resort to providing my medication that required refrigeration to the reception.

    « Wonderful Staff »

A pleasant older hotel on Dover Beach with second-floor rooms having balconies overlooking the harbor that are large enough to allow sitting and sipping. All of the staff, front desk and housekeeping were prompt, helpful, and willing to go beyond the ordinary to provide service. When we needed to get to a pharmacist Saturday evening near closing they offered to drive us in a personal vehicle since taxis would not be timely. Can't recommend highly enough.

    « Hot bedroom »

Ideally situated for those wanting an overnight stay prior to a ferry crossing. We stayed as part of a coach trip and the booking in provedure was handled efficiently. My room was on the 3rd floor and was very hot. Window only opened a few inches and although a fan was provided all that did was to circulate warm air. Evening meal was well cooked and tasty but it took over 2 hours to serve our group of 29.Nice with the usual facilities including ironing board. Bathroom a good size.

« Great One Night Stay »

We were only here for the one night but would've happily stayed longer. The entrance to the hotel is beautiful. The location is perfect, very close to restaurants to visit at night. We had a sea-view room and it was beautiful. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

    « A Very Acceptable Overnight Stay »

A very pleasant, if compact, double room on the 1st floor of this period hotel, adapted to contemporary needs. Clean, tidy and comfortable, though we were slightly tripping over furniture. The en-suite was of better proportions and practical with basic toiletries provided. There was a TV and adequate provision for the charging of phones etc, though a hair-dryer was missing & had to be requested. Staff are very pleasant & courteous. Ideal pre-ferry location with seafront views from the bar. Easy distance from the town centre with its shops & places to eat. Good car parking nearby.

« Great waterfront location for a hotel in need of upgrades! »

Located right on the waterfront, this hotel looks like it may have once been a first class destination. Unfortunately, the lovely exterior conceals a hotel exhibiting signs of age and distress. Parking was readily available on the wide street running in front of the hotel although it soon filled with campers and RV's who seemed to enjoy sitting on the benches overlooking the beach and 'camping' on the street overnight. The hotel entrance is awkwardly positioned and required walking between a performing music group and the bar and its patrons with all our luggage. Our 3rd floor room was in the back of the hotel with a scenic view of the warehouse behind it and the very busy road leading to the channel ferries. The room was old, creaky, lacked A/C and had an antiquated bathroom with a shower jury-rigged on top of an old tub. Warning to male occupants: the toilet seat will not stay up and requires use of one hand to hold it while you pee. The traffic from the busy road running through Dover was incessant all night--especially the truck traffic--and the noise kept waking us up. Then at 5 or 6 a.m. the delivery truck noise at the warehouse just behind the room started up. The room was very warm although not as hot as the sauna like hallways. We had to open the windows which didn't help with the noise. When visiting Dover again we would certainly not choose this hotel. The waterfront location doesn't make up for the worn out rooms, the noise, and the lack of A/C.

« Pleasantly faded but quirky and very comfortable. »

I spent a weekend here as a de stressing break. My superior room wasn't cheap. It was small, but very clean and comfortable with a fabulous balcony and views over the harbour. I had a wonderful nights sleep and then enjoyed a good breakfast. I had a manicure and pedicure and head and shoulder massage, and this was bliss. Afternoon tea was an added bonus. Same again on the Sunday but this time a Swedish massage, which was truly amazing. Overall positives were the view, the very comfortable bed and the very very polite staff. Negatives were the rather shabby stair carpet and worn doors when accessing the bedrooms. I also was disappointed that my tv stopped working and despite me reporting it, it wasn't fixed. I would normally have mentioned this to the reception staff on check out, and expected a reduction but the receptionist was rather preoccupied and did not ask me if everything had been ok...another slight negative. I spent approx 500 pounds for an indulgent weekend. I very much enjoyed it, but it could have been absolutely perfect with a little more investment in maintainance and staff training. This would make the difference between a very good experience an an excellent one. However, I would stay again purely because of the location and views.

« Clean and Tidy Hotel in Dover »

We went to Dover for a weekend getaway to see the White Cliffs and Dover Castle. The Best Western was a great and central location with a very friendly staff. The room was large, and comfortable with a ocean-facing deck (it's over the bar so can be noisy but it didn't bother us). The bathroom is a bit tired and could use an update, but for a weekend it was fine. Morning breakfast buffet was good. Would recommend this hotel if you're in Dover.

    « Very pleasant.... »

Just a one night stay prior to getting in the ferry. Very pleasant reception staff, room was ready on arrival. Our room was a little tired and the bathroom was 'seventies' but both were spotlessly clean Didn't use any facilities apart from the bar, which was quite fairly priced, although I must say that the afternoon teas looked lovely. Standard buffet style breakfast with further choices a la carte - we were almost first in at 0645 so everything was fresh and hot. Only drawback was that he sausages although cooked through, were anaemic to say the least and didn't look very inviting! Would certainly recommend.

    « spa break »

Had a wonderful mini spa break with a very dear friend began with a Swedish Massage and we them settled into our lovely room. Went out for a walk on the sea front which is literally just across the road and Dover Castle is in clear view. We contemplated a walk but were too lazy and relaxed from our massage. Had a delicious steak dinner with impeccable service a couple of drinks at the bar. Slept really well and went down stairs to a banquet of a breakfast, so much choice it was unbelievable. I am still upset I left no room for a waffle. the batter is there for you to place in waffle maker and top as you please. A real treat!

« Spa and afternoon tea »

Arrived at the hotel and was advised to go downstairs to the spa. Waited for a bit then was asked to complete the standard forms. Waited a bit again and was told to go through to the relation room. There was a couple of chairs and beds. The beds didn't have towels on it was fleece blankets which was a bit battered. I went in for my head massage. The girl although lovely spoke the whole way through, when she did the gentle hair tug it was a omg pull. I didn't walk away feeling relaxed at all. Felt like my child was doing it! Met my friends who were still waiting in the relaxation room. They had there treatments which they said was ok. One friend had to ask the girl to replace the towel where your face went through as it was covered in all make up and hair. Surely for hygiene this should be done every time? Went up for the spa in the lovely dining room and was sat by the window looking out on the water. Ordered drinks and our afternoon tea. The scones were lovely and still warm. The rest was just ok. This was booked via groupon which I'm glad about as I would have been so annoyed if I had paid full price. The gym was tiny and there was building works going on. Apart from the relaxation room there was only a steam room. I won't return or recommend to anyone as I feel I didn't get to achieve what I wanted to achieve that day and didn't walk away thinking wow I want to come back

We had the most perfect day all of the staff were excellent especially James who continually checked with us throughout the day that everything was ok. The food was amazing and the setting beautiful. Our room the honeymoon suite was lovely as were the champagne/chocolates and fresh fruit. We cannot thank The Best Western Dover enough for ensuring we had a perfect wedding day.

« Good Value for what we paid »

Best location, but this is one of the older hotels so bedrooms need sprucing and uplifting. No AC, only fans provided. For parking, you need to get special permit from Reception. Dinner for our group by special request from us was prepared by an Indian chef which we really enjoyed. Breakfast was best by far. Pebbled Beach so very little space to sunbathe or relax. Very small section of soft sand area slightly further down. Sailing Club close by.

    « Ummm, no. »

Quick and simple. Hotel does not have air conditioning. Our room smelled like covered up cigarette smoke even though this is a no smoking hotel. Room 100 does not have a hair dryer or refrigerator. Room has a sever slope, yes the floor is sloped. TV is barely hanging on the wall. Overall the hotel looks worn. Room has good wifi and solid water pressure. The bed is somewhat hard. Pillows are flat and not very cushy. Did i mention the masked perfume smell trying to hide the cigarette smell? Room has a small ironing board and decent iron. Bathroom shampoo and soap selection is very very basic. There aren't many choices in Dover but I would bet there is better than this place.

    « Not a 4 star property! »

I selected the Best Western Plus Dover Marina Hotel based on photos online and I was extremely disappointed upon our arrival. The "curb appeal" and restaurant area on the main floor looks fine, but the true nature of the property is revealed once you arrive at your room. We booked a standard ocean view double room and it was one of the smallest rooms I have ever stayed in - think cruise ship cabin. Worst of all, the room had not been sufficiently cleaned prior to our arrival and we spotted two used Q-tips on the desk chair. In the evening, we had trouble sleeping as the wind blowing in off the ocean caused the flags out front of the building to flap violently, creating a noise we could not sleep through. Why hadn't the flags been lowered prior to the forecasted storm? Or simply as a matter of routine each night? When we contacted the front desk, they admitted that many residents in the hotel had complained about it also, but there was nothing they could do. We could hear the people above us pacing around at 2am awake as well since the floors were very creaky. This is a very old building. When I was asked upon check out how I had enjoyed my stay, I was honest and outlined all of the above information to them. I received nothing other than a: "I'm sorry to hear that", then I was presented with the bill. This property is, at best, 3 stars.

    « Disappointing »

This is the second time we have stayed here before continuing our travels to France. The service was well below the standard I expect as a BW card holder. Not enough staff on duty serving at the bar to deal with meal and drink requests. Breakfast on our first morning there were no tables ready, we had to wait 10 minutes before one was tidied. Surely the hotel knows how many guests are having breakfast. I'd also suggest to hotel management not to hold meetings/interviews in the bar area. We got to over hear many things one of which was a female member of staff being 'pressured' into working more hours despite her saying she has family commitments. Unfortunately we will not be back on our next trip.

    « Dissapointing »

Went for a snack, ordered sandwiches and sweet potatoes fries The menu said hand carved ham sandwich, what came was a piece of wafer thin wet shiny cheap ham on thin limp bread, potatoes fries were under cooked I complained to the waiter, nothing was done so I asked to see the manager who gave me a refund The tables around us were left uncleared and dirty. Other guest were complaining about a cocktail not tasting like it had alcohol in, the guy behind the bar was very rude to them I will not return here

« We will not return »

We had great expectations, the hotel is overlooking the marina and seemed cosy. We booked in the afternoon and when arrived around 18 pm, the room was not cleaned and ready. We were asked to wait 30 min. We were tired and asked if could get a complimentary pint in the bar, while waiting but that was declined. After a while we got offered 2 coffees (a drink in the bar was still declined) and also told that tonight they had a big function in the hotel, and there might be noise and music. Mind you, we were paying full price for the room. When we got the room, it was hot, smelled immensely from the stuff you spray to "clean" the air, the windows only open slightly, no air con, the beds were too soft (for our taste), no complimentary shampoos/conditioner/shower cream (as in the other 3 hotels we stayed on). The place seemed bit run down, price is simply far too high - comparing to a hotel in canterbury and henley where we also stayed. We will not return.

Frequent traveller to Dover as a parent of a school there my double room with sea view took me up to the 4th floor with a small window (unlike the photograph suggests on booking.com). Small, hot room. No air conditioning. Hard pillows. Wardrobe doors that don't fully open due to lack of space, no toiletries and a poor excuse for a shower are several reasons why I won't be returning. Some of the staff are not welcoming and are lacking in customer service and waiting 10 minutes to be served at the empty bar adds to the frustration. There are better hotels and some offer school discounts.

We booked months in advance and are be members Our room was so small as was the bed .room almost as if a training room . The side lamp was wrapped copies round by the lead not plugged in had to assume not safe to use no ire tags . The tv would not work reported to reception nothing done .hubby took it apart in end and got working. Old internet connection block left in room. Marks all down the walls . Fan was supplied as no air con but it was so damaged it aimed at the floor most of the time. Ceiling in room was showing water leaking and progressing along the supports needs looking at. So now hubby s comments on the bathroom . The shower was great. Powerful and hot. Unfortunately, while showering, one inevitable looks at the tiling. This has mould all over and hairs etc stuck to the walls. Grouting realky filthy. Clearly not cleaned in a long time. Shelves over toilet also not replenished . This appeared to be a training room or a dumping room. Really not to standard . We often come here for Sunday carvery and that's always excellent . So we decided to stay here. Sadly as said very disappointed. The staff however really good working with difficult standards . The chairs in reception are dirty and need arm covers that can be cleaned regularly. You are actually sticking to previous people's sweat and body fat on the arms of some chairs not pleasant. However staff and food quality excellent Evening and breakfast great. So come on management .

    « Sea view for port-side hotel »

This hotel is on the ferry harbour in Dover, so very convenient for cross-channel ferries. If you get a room with a sea view you can see the ferries (though not hear them thankfully) and watch the sea lapping the pebble shore. It's very restful. At the moment there are works on the harbour so it's a bit noisy during the day. It's an old, restored building, decorated in a classic style. As an old building, nothing is particularly spacious but they make the best of what they have. Our fourth floor room was small and with a disconcerting sloping floor - didn't affect my sleep, thankfully. The facilities were OK, the shower a little timid but it worked. The breakfast was buffet style and fine. We didn't eat dinner there. Two nice restaurants, Hythe Bay (fish) and Cullins Yard (bistro) are very close. The wifi was great ? easy to connect to, free and enough for a bit of streaming. This hotel is in a great location for a stop-over before the ferry, or for exploring Dover with its white cliffs, or beautiful castle. You could also wander into the town centre for shops. There is a huge public car-park behind the hotel and they give you a free pass for it if you are staying.

We were there for business and the place is nice but only one lift for hundred people and the rooms were really hot, only a little fun is not enough for being good. My mattress was really uncomfortable...

    « Location, location, location »

We have stayed at this hotel a few times now, only as a stopover to break our journey to other parts of Britain and Ireland. It is housed in a splendid Victorian building on the sea front, and the rooms, corridors and stairways are naturally old, sometimes rather stuffy and the floors a bit uneven - that is in the nature of an old building, but the rooms are pleasantly decorated and furnished. We once had a room at the top of the building that was insufferably hot, but this time was much better, although we didn't have a good view from the back of the building. The highlight in my opinion is the conservatory, where guests can sit to have dinner or breakfast (probably best to book a table there for dinner if the hotel is busy), as you have lovely views out to sea, and can watch the ships sailing in and out of the harbour. It is a real treat. The standard of the meals - including the breakfast - was very good, as was the wine, and the staff were most attentive, polite and helpful.

    « Very disappointed »

Travelers should be aware that the guest rooms are not air conditioned. Our room was small, extremely hot, with few amenities (we were not even provided with shampoo). In addition, there is an outside bar from which the loud conversation, laughter and scraping of chairs from patrons woke us up several times. The standing fan in our room was bent and would not oscillate. Even though our room was prepaid (and nonrefundable) for 3 nights it was so uncomfortable that we checked out a day early. When we explained our reasons for leaving to the Front Desk we received a lukewarm apology and an offer to comp us one breakfast. Very, very disappointing.

Very friendly hotel in a great location. Stunning building with fab views. High quality food in the restaurant. Step out the front doors and onto the beach, or exit the revolving door at the rear to access shops and cafes.

« Spa and afternoon tea. »

Me and spa daughter visited today and had a spa treatment and afternoon tea. All staff we encountered were pleasant and accommodating. I had a very relaxing facial and my daughter had a back massage. Appointment times were spot on and treatments lasted the full half hour. Afternoon tea was lovely and we even got a choice of sandwiches so could opt out of any that weren't to our taste. Coffee refilled as often as required. Will definitely go again.

« Great room with Dover Harbour views. »

Friendly and efficient check in, well maintained hotel on the foreshore in Dover. The room was clean, comfy and well appointed, though visiting in summer can be quite warm. It seems a lot of British hotels rely on fans to circulate the warm air until a sea breeze kicks in. Not brilliant, but this place is in the majority. Good wifi and a very nice Full English for breaky.

    « A very hot room. »

The room we had was satisfactory for one night but was very hot. A fan was provided in the room but was very noisy. There was no air conditioning. The bathroom lacked the little niceties that you expect from this type of hotel, shampoo, conditioner etc, and the bathroom window could not be opened to let the steam out. The bathroom fan was not efficient. We chose to have dinner in the main dining room and it was very nice. There was not enough of the sea bass as a meal, it was more the size of an entree, however my steak was well cooked and plentiful, so I ended up giving most of my veggies to my friend to supplement their meal. Breakfast was very good and came as part of our package. The staff were lovely.

Very nice hotel, right by the sea front, great staff who were very helpful. We had an early Ferry crossing and decided to have the breakfast, this suited all the family (we have varied tastes) I would stay here again.

« Disgusting service and room »

We booked a superior double room no 110 with air conditioning when we got to our room it was not a superior room at all it was a small sweaty tiny room with a fan and wallpaper hanging off the walls not what we booked and when we paid £226 for 1 night for this claustrophobic dirty little room went downstairs and got an instant refund all they could say was we're sorry they had let our booked room out before we got there and tried putting us in a room we hadn't booked

    « poor quality hotel »

We've stayed at this hotel last month, and we were quite disappointed. The room was quite badly maintained, there were no soap, shower gel, shampoo considering the price we've paid for one night. We really did not like the hotel and most likely we will never go back there, and wouldn't advise to stay there too.

    1
    « Don't use it »

For the price it was shocking and not worth what we paid for 1 night without breakfast than was extra and not nice. Our room was small incredibly hot, the bed was like sleeping on concrete, the pillows were shocking and to make worse the shower won't work only to drip at us.

    « Terrible »

We booked two rooms for a spa break overnight for a treat for my daughters 13th birthday. We were told prior to arriving that our 13 and 16 yr old would be able to have a spa treatment. Upon arriving we were told they were too young only being allowed to have a manicure. I asked if my daughter could have her toe nails painted to match her hands only to be rudely told no. My 30 minute back massage was only 20 min and this included me getting undressed. The spa is dismal. In fact it's just a sauna. Staff were unaccomodating and unfriendly. our hotel room bathroom was more than discusting . Please see pics. We did not shower during our stay and couldn't wait to get home. Window would not stay open and rooms were uncomfortably hot. A fan is provided but too noisy to leave on during the night. Breakfast is basic. Dinner was ok and the only positive thing I can say is that evening dinner staff were lovely. I was offered 25%of a future visit but would not even consider revisiting the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.

« Wonderful Hotel in Dover! »

We stayed in Dover only one day to visit the White Cliffs. This hotel was wonderful and very convenient for us. Parking in the back was great as not all hotels have on site parking. Room was really comfortable and food in the restaurant was great. We'd stay there again for sure!

« Great location, lovely staff »

We wished to spend a day in Dover before sailing across the channel. We knew of this hotel located right on the beach. It is also located opposite and shopping outlet and just a few minutes walk from the town. The building is a Grade II listed property and was obviously once very grand. We arrived early so they looked after our bags before we checked in. Easy and pleasant check in. We stayed in room 100 - the "Bridal Suite". It was a pleasantly appointed room, but was showing signs of age with wallpaper damage and ill fitting balcony doors. The balcony was large. We did not pre-order breakfast and were surprised to find it charged at £13.95. Having said that the dining room is a lovely room with sun terrace. Having paid for extras we departed for the port just 5 minutes away

    « Poor stay »

While I can't knock the location of this hotel and it's good car parking arrangements, the service was just rubbish. After a long journey all I wanted was a drink on the patio. No one came to serve me. All the tables were dirty. Finally I had to leave my table to go to the bar and in doing so I lost my table and had to wait 15 mins at the bar to be served. A committee of staff mulled over another customer's bill and not one bothered to acknowledge me. It was very poor indeed.

    « Disappointing »

On arrival we found that our request for twin beds with sheets and blankets had not been arranged, despite the hotel confirming this to us in the booking confirmation email. We had been allocated a double bedded room, so this needed to be changed to a room with a King sized bed that could be split. The first room allocated was incredibly cramped and therefore rejected. We accepted the second room suggested, but had to wait until 6.30pm to have the beds sorted. We had an unacceptable level of storage - a wardrobe with the one shelf almost totally taken up with the safe, plus two small desk drawers and nothing to put our cases on, although a very nice lady from housekeeping found us two case stands. As we were staying for three nights, this proved extremely challenging, as was the available storage in the bathroom, with one small shelf and no towel rails. The toilet seat was dangerously loose and although we asked for it to be fixed. nothing happened. The complementary toiletries consisted of one small bottle of body lotion, a small soap and a shower cap. The breakfasts were mediocre at best and the whole experience was something we hope never to repeat. Having come straight from a 3 star Best Western Hotel in Hastings to this supposed 4 star establishment, was a complete shock as the Hastings Hotel was so totally superior to this hotel, and we were expecting the complete opposite. I would definitely not recommend this hotel.

« Bustling harbour hotel style! »

We visited for a family event and had lunch/afternoon tea in the restaurant for eight of us. The food was really good, nice selection of sandwiches, cakes and scones. Plenty there and we still took 2 boxes of left overs home! Plentiful supply of tea etc too. Beautiful views of the harbour from the restaurant although you would only see this on the small tables for 2 people as the big tables are on the other side of the partitions. The restaurant was busy with a hen party of ladies in fancy dress and two other birthday party groups so it was quite noisy. There was also a wedding on and reception was busy with wedding guests. There isn't a lounge really for groups to wait, just a couple of small sofas and chairs dotted about near reception so it got rather congested at times. There are however nice tables with parasols outside if the weather is warm enough. The staff were lovely and very friendly, if a little rushed off their feet, and the ones we met in the corridors and at reception genuinely greeted us with smiles. Would go back, and try the spa next time!

« Spa and afternoon tea through Groupon »

We visited yesterday as a group of 5 through Groupon for a 30 minute spa treat and afternoon tea for a friends birthday 50th birthday treat. Reception staff at front desk helpful and friendly. Afternoon tea was the best part of this day, a lovely selection of sandwiches, scones and small cakes. The spa is where we felt let down, three of us had booked to have an express Manicure which to be quite frank was not a manicure at all it basically consisted of, a hand massage a quick file of nails two coats of polish and a top coat. No attention was paid to our cuticles at all and no base coat applied before polish. The girl doing the Manicure was friendly but I could of painted my nails better myself, the nails were not covered I had holes of polish in places and within 10 mins they had started to chip. I feel that because we went through Groupon we got half the Manicure we should of done and it was done. Bit of a let down. Would not visit again only for afternoon tea.

« Superior Room with great view (if small) »

Visited with a group of former school friends (from 40 years ago!). All the staff were very friendly & helpful. Food and drink was good, if a little pricey. The superior room had a great view over the harbour right from the castle to the Western Docks. Although it was a little small it was well maintained and very comfortable with a nice balcony.

Wonderful cream tea here in the restaurant with a lovely sea view. « Avoid This Hotel »

Hot stuffy rooms on the fourth floor with broken fan, making a comfortable nights sleep impossible Fourth floor has a terrible dank odour Staff no help with resolving these issues Breakfast awful and overpriced Bearing in mind this accommodation was charged at £144 per night midweek (excluding breakfast) I was expecting an excellent hotel with well-appointed rooms. What transpired was a room that was unacceptable at any price on a floor that had an awful dank odour. In addition, the breakfast was very poor and overpriced. I have complained about this with the local management and head office. They acknowledged the heat problem and the fan issue but denied the smell on the fourth floor. If you are thinking about staying here, visit the floors of the hotel before you book and have a look in the rooms, it really doesn't smell very nice at all.

Excellent food, staff busy but helpful. Sea view room recommended. Overall hotel okay for 2 or 3 nights stay. Pity about parking being in a public car park over the road from hotel and you have to display a parking permit.

    « Great stay »

We stayed for 3 nights Fri-Sun. Our room was on level 2 & quite comfortable without sea views. Full buffet breakfast was included with our tariff. There was a good selection to choose from and the hot food was of good temperature. Staff at reception and in the dining room were warm and welcoming. A wedding was held on the Saturday night and no disturbances were noted. Would definately revisit if we returned to the UK.

« Understand where you are staying »

Firstly, the staff, where for the hotel or restaurants/bar are very helpful and friendly and they did their best to make our stay great. First impressions on checking is that the place is a little dated. We stayed on level 4, and with only one lift operating when we were there, it could take quite some time. Entering the room, same impression. A little dated. The you realize you are staying in a little piece of history. I think the place is over 100 years old (I want to say 180 years but can't remember for certain). We stayed here for 3 nights, and we started to relax and enjoy the hotel for what it was. When you do that, it's great.

    « I'll be back. »

An 'old style' hotel physically but modern service and staff who couldnt be more helpful. Breakfast is one of the best I've had in a hotel and the restaurant is top class, seemingly also used by the well heeled locals. My room was very quiet with a view of France, comfy even if on a very slight slope....added to the charm .

    « Delightful Afternoon Tea »

We received a gift voucher from a friend for afternoon tea for two at the hotel which was served in the Waterfront Restaurant. We were shown to a table for two in the glass fronted verandah overlooking the harbour which sparkled in the delightful sunshine. Our order was taken quickly by a very efficient and friendly young lady and after a short wait our afternoon tea arrived, you have a choice of different teas or coffee which is topped up whenever you want. There is a selection of finger sandwiches with three different fillings, a salmon and cucumber mini bagel, a selection of cakes and pastries and sultana scones with clotted cream and jam, altogether a wonderful selection, the only minor criticism is that the sandwiches were a little dry, seeming perhaps that they were made in advance and kept refrigerated, however this is only a minor gripe and we thoroughly enjoyed afternoon tea in this wonderful location........highly recommended !!!!!

an average hotel, old and squirky but with a definite charm to it. location is very nice with a grand view over the harbour/ sea. staff somewhat tight up but ok. directly to the marien pier/ beach. Also directly to the extremly busy harbor

« Nice on the outside and lobby but it ends there »

This appears to be a nice BW Plus but the outside and nice quaint lobby area are where it ends. They could careless is you are a BW double diamond member to start. We like BW in Europe because you get quaint unique properties. This is definitely quaint. We were given a very noise road size room instead of a quieter ocean side. We could not close the windows to make it quieter because the room was so bloody hot even with two windows open. There is no AC, no fan and due most likely to birds (from the sight of our window being covered in bird poo) you couldn't open the window very far. The floors are old so you could hear every step from the floor above. The room was tiny with barely any room to walk around the bed. The tub/shower is a wall dispenser shampoo and no conditioner with a minuscule nugget of soap. The tub was covered with brown spots as was the edge of the tub. I could rub the brown spot on the edge off. The room is reminiscent of a different era. The television is mounted on the wall at the foot of the bed where you already barely have room to walk. It is mounded with a cheap mount that causes the tv to wobble and sit tilted on the wall. When we were going to ask to make sure we got our stay bonus at least, the young lady was rather loud which was embarrassing in explaining that we didn't get a room upgrade because the hotel was full. That wasn't even what we were asking and she carried on loud and rather rudely almost announcing that she really didn't care. The location is nice if you have an ocean side view possibly but not really what I would call a top tier hotel. there are many other choices within a 20 minute drive. Look before choosing this one.

« Just about ok for one night »

Nice hotel from the outside and nice welcoming reception. It is a nice old building but that doesn't mean that it shouldn't be cleaned! The room facing the sea was nice enough but the ledge outside the windows was full of cigarette ends and seagull waste to the depth of around 4 inches!!! This attracted seagulls to the ledge where they were either fighting or doing what animals do right on the so die ledge from 4am onwards!!! I'm convinced if the seagull waste and rubbish was ever cleaned from the ledge then they would find somewhere else. The entire hotel is like a sauna and we needed to use the fan provided in April, dover might be by the sea but it's no tropical climate. If your booking through central reservations be careful as they tell you that breakfast is included and then the hotel charge you for it. Breakfast is of a decent standard but not £14 per person standard. All in all this is a disappointing best western I have stayed In much better and there must be better hotels on offer in dover.

« Noise from Speaker felt like it was in our room »

The hotel & situation are fabulous! HOWEVER be careful If there is a wedding on and you are not attending and have been booked in rm 102. IT really upset me as I could not relax - we had the tele on volume 70 and still could not hear it. The floor was vibrating with the music, it sounded like the speaker was under the bed head. The base notes were so so loud! I couldn't even mask it with headphones on and music from my phone. The wedding music stopped at 12.00 midnight however by then I had a massive headache and also had an argument with my partner because I kept asking him to do something about the noise. Two staff came to the room to hear how noisy it was an agreed that it was terribly loud. They did offer us another room but my partner wanted a balcony for us. By the time I said we really need to move there were no rooms available. Just be careful. Apart from that horrendous evening the hotel staff are friendly and the food is very nice, as is the restaurant within the hotel.

    « Surprisingly Good »

This was a lovley hotel, really well positioned on the sea front, the room we stayed in was huge in comparison to some hotels we have stayed in. We had breakfast on the 3 mornings we were there which we really enjoyed, the staff were all very helpful and friendly, we had dinner there one of the nights and were well satisfied. If ever we are in Kent again we will certainly head for this hotel. It was perfectly placed to visit lots of interesting places with very little travel needed. It also had a very large parking area that was free to customers.

    « Bit of a mix »

We were booked into a family room for a two-night stay, with a meal, as part of a group event. The staff were friendly, pleasant and accommodating even though they didn't deliver sometimes. We had a pleasant evening meal with our group. The bar has a great selection of gins. Breakfast was alright. Eggs good, toaster worked well. Mushrooms weren't up to much and no veggie option. The shower was pretty good. Great pressure. It was a large room with plenty of storage space, which was great. However, we had twin single beds and a fold out sofa bed (which wasn't folded out at the time and even though we were promised a fold out mu husband had to do it). I spent night one in a single, it wasn't great and slid around. My husband hated the fold out. He faired better in the single. The fold out was an instrument of torture. In all, it was okay.

« Good events facility but poor bedroom »

I stayed here for one night to attend a private dinner event. The food was good and the event staff were all pleasant and helpful. The Front Office, on the other hand, was not so good and I was unimpressed. My bedroom was overheated and I had to keep the window open all night but did not sleep well because of a combination of uncomfortable bed and dredging in the marina. This is definitely in the bottom quartile of Best Westerns.

    « Birthday Treat!! »

Have just returned from a lovely night at the Marina Hotel to celebrate a big birthday. It was fantastic. The service from beginning to end was superb. The waterfront restaurant decorated the table and gave my husband a piece of birthday cake and all staff sang happy birthday at no extra charge. The groupon deal run out of date so the hotel matched it. Superb value. Three course dinner was lovely as was breakfast freshly cooked eggs or omelettes on request and the treatments in the Spa were lovely. All in all had a great time and will definitely be returning. Thank u Marina Hotel for making our stay perfect. PS. Upgrade to a superior room with balcony. Well worth it.

« Our Spa Break stay at Dover Marina »

My wife and I were given vouchers for a 2 day break at this hotel with a few spa options. From the time we arrived we were looked after superbly. Included in the price was breakfast for two days and a 3 course dinner on one evening. The first evening we ate in the retaurant and it was a very good experience, a wide choice, beautifully presented. We have friends in Dover and on the next we decided to invite them to have lunch thre with us. Again a superb experience and we discovered our friends eat there often and always find the same standard of quality and service. It is a grade 2 listed building built in about 1830 and one which survived the World War 2 German bombing of Dover, where I believe some 80 bombs were dropped in a period of just over a year We had a lovely room on the second floor with superb views of Dover Harbour. Some people have commented that it is a "bit tired" looking but they are limited based on the listed status. We could not fault the staff in all areas who were always willing to help. We chose an option in the Spa of a massage, and again this was a most pleasant experience. In short we had a great time and it was very good value for money. Thank you Marina hotel and Spa Breaks.

We have just come back from the Dover marine and spa hotel. We had purchased this via a wocher offer , on a dinner bed and breakfast with 2 30 minutes spa thrown in . Also with free parking which was just over the road . The room was in good condition and bathroom. The view was very good ,looking out to channel . The bar prices was over average . The bar was very busy and there could have been another member of staff to help the barman out . The morning breakfast was plentyful and very good . Overall a lovely hotel and very friendly staff.

    « Very disappointed! »

Hotel with great location (front line) with exquisite appearance...but as you entered the hotel our "experience" changed completely, at least ours was not the best! Room with a small bed for two, even taking into consideration the "old" state of the hotel. Very noisy room with NO Sound proof (you could hear footsteps and cracking noises from the above room, snoring and seagulls even with the windows shut); breakfast....well not great! The options were there but containers were empty or scarce (pastries, juices, bread, fruit) - overall and taking into account what we paid - NO VALUE FOR MONEY

« Lovely weekend and spa break »

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights with my Mum, with the as a surprise for her 50th b'day. I purchased a very good value for money pack: 2 nights, breakfast each morning, 1 dinner and 1 spa treatment. The staff have been always very polite and willing to help ; a slight minus would have been that if you wouldn't ask for certain info, they wouldn't have advise you in advance (i.e. where the spa was located, how to prepare for the spa, etc). Besides this, the service was very good, excellent food. We really enjoyed the dinner from the 1st night so we chose to have dinner on 2nd night as well - not much variety, but very tasty and good prices. The breakfast buffet was quite diverse and covered all tastes. We liked the room a lot; very clean and cosy with quite a vintage touch. And most of all, LOCATION - right on the beach and we were lucky enough to have a room facing the beach as well. It's very easy to get from the train station (15-20 mins walk) and very accessible the rest of the Dover city from the hotel. Should you visit Dover, there is a Sea food restaurant right on the pier, which serves the most amazing chowder :)

« Great choice for a weekend away »

Classic seafront hotal which still retains some of its original charm (including sloping floors!). The sea view is esential - we had a great view of the ferries arriving and leaving (though you might have to put up with a bit of night-time noise from revellers outside). The rooms were all you would want: clean and comfy. The food was very good, with a decent choice, everything well cooked and a gluten-intolerant member of the group well catered for. All the staff were really friendly and helpful. I would definitely return.

« Great hotel with charm »

We stayed here for one night on a trip to Dover castle and were really happy with the hotel, staff were really nice and worked hard. The hotel is very nicely decorated with old touches that make it different, our room had a floor that dropped slightly which is really strange but adds to the hotels charm. Food was really good and the breakfast is massive with all you can eat, I would definitely stay here again as a really good all round place to stay on the front you get to see all in the harbour yet a two minute walk in to town with a good choice of pubs and places to eat.

    « Poor Housekeeping »

We have just spent 2 nights in this hotel. in some aspects it was excellent. Supurb food in the restaurant for dinner. Plus excellent staff. BREAKFAST . Breakfast left a lot to be desired. cold food on buffet, cold scrambled eggs, under cooked bacon again cold, half cooked sausages. When I complained a second breakfast was bought to me. I asked for vinegar. The bottle was filthy, with a tide mark at the vinegar level. the bottle had not been washed out in months. The vinegar was cloudy. The waiter laughed and thought it funny( I did not) My husband asked for more coffee , it did not arrive. On leaving the restaurant the waiter again thought it funny that he had not bought the coffee, BEDROOM. Stayed 2 nights. the room was fine & beds very comfortable. The bed had not been remade. the quilt just thrown on top. pillows as left from night before & sheets crumpled again from night before. The carpet had not been vacuumed & bits all over the floor. BATHROOM Waterproof floor with curved edge wall to floor, All along the edge was thick dust. Mildew on the corner of the bath to wall tiles. This hotel could be perfect with more attention to detail. The Staff except the 1 breakfast waiter, could not do enough & the food at dinner was Excellent. Hotel very close to the port & overlooked the harbour.

Arrived Late, had to get directions from Night porter, great parking, quirky old fashioned hotel, room a bit cramp, but great bathroom, liked the fruit on reception, staff very friendly, didn't stay for breakfast, but menu looked decent

Stayed for a long weekend early November the hotel is clean and the staff are very nice, the food in the restaurant was very good with a good selection Near the town and you can watch the ferries from the comfort of the hotel sun lounge. Nice walks along the front.

Very old hotel on the sea front , although the rom was good and well equipped , unfortunately the heating was not adequate , when we arrived the heating was switched of and with single glazing this was very noticeable , the room only warmed up by the morning .The tv, was unplugged . It seems the attention to detail in he housekeeping department was not evident . Reception was very busy but helpful. One lift which was very slow ,quicker by stairs . Well decorated property , The breakfast was very good and plenty buffet type with Ala carte as well . Bar was closed by 11.15pm when we arrived back from our function which was a shame as we fancied a nice coffee before bed . Overall a nice clean well run old property , which I would stay again , great for the ferry , plenty of free parking .

« Book Direct for best deals »

Visited Best Western for a 2 day break. We have stayed there several times over the years. Direct booking advisable for best deals. Breakfast was £11 each; As we didn't book breakfast as part of the deal at the outset, we should have. Reception gave an upgrade to a room overlooking the harbour which was most welcome. The room can be noisy with traffic on the seafront but the view is worth it. Free car parking is arranged through the hotel and is a short walk across the road in the retail store. Very good breakfast. Helpful staff.

    « Terrible Experience »

When booking I asked for 2 rooms near to each other as a family room was not available and for a cot. On arrival rooms allocated were on separate floors! Reception member of staff was reluctant at first to move closer until another member of staff prompted them to do so. On entering the first room that had been allocated to my wife, child and baby we found the room was very hot and no cot had been put in it. I returned to reception to ask about the cot to be met with a can't be bothered attitude from reception staff. When entering the room allocated to myself and my other child the room was very cold with two broken windows and no room for a cot if we wanted to swap rooms because of the temperature, uneven floor and later the noise. We told reception on our way out for a meal and were told there were no other rooms available as they were fully booked. On our return a function had started which was blocking all routes into the reception and lobby areas to access the lift/ stairs to the rooms, which we had not been informed at checkin about. The function went on until late keeping my wife, child and baby awake, resulting in my wife not being able to get our baby back to sleep and a restless, sleepless night! On check out I did comment on the allocation of rooms to people with young children and that they should have been allocated to a room at the other end of the hotel as you couldn't hear the function from there, they didn't seem to be surprised but did ask if we had been informed of the function at checkin which again we were not. Overall this has been the worst stay at a Best Western Hotel!

« Best Western in Dover »

This hotel is right on the waterfront and is a very old and beautiful building. It is too far to walk from the train station but is a relatively short taxi ride away. The interior look recently remodeled and is very pretty. The staff are very kind here as well! Our room was quite small but it was nice all the same. I wish that we had requested a room with a view of the ocean, as we were on the other side of the building facing the parking lot. I think there was scaffolding on the ocean-facing side of the building at the time anyways as it was sort of off-season so I think they were doing some repair or upkeep on the building. Breakfast was included with our room fee and it was quite good. We also had dinner in the restaurant at the hotel. It was a bit pricey but still a good experience as the view by the window looked onto the water and was quite nice. It was a very relaxing stay here. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

    « Great location »

Located right on promenade. Had one nights stay in a single room. Couldn't sleep much as the room was so warm. Window only opened a bit and radiators were off. Fans are supplied in rooms which I guess says it's a regular problem. Couldn't put fan on though as too noisy. Drinks at the bar are fairly expensive, £5.39 for a pint of Peroni!!! Evening meal was very nice but not big portions. Breakfast was not so good, cheap bacon and sausages, deep fried black pudding and lots of hot plate dishes were empty. Stay for the location but drink and eat somewhere else, if you can find a decent place in Dover??

« Wanted a room with sea view and open balcony and liked every bit of it »

The hotel in general is a converted one so the passages are thin, but the rooms are nice and wide. We booked a sea view hotel room here with private balcony. It was nice and clean and had a great time for those 2 night, very romantic.

    « Short stay »

Reception and departure slow. I consider the single rooms are on the small side compared to others. The Shower and toilet are so small it needs to close the door, to move about and there is a shortage of shelf ,space to place toilet items Bar prices are on the high side Breakfast and the service of it is good and the staff poite and helpful

    « Nice hotel »

Hotel is nice , great location , room was on the slant but the hotel is 180 yrs old and survived being bombed in two world wars !! Staff friendly . Only thing that lets it down is Dover itself , really sad , loads of empty shops and why don't they ban public drinking . Loads of homeless congregated in the town centre , just sets a sad tone and doesn't inspire you to walk around after dark .I went for a costa coffee at 7.30 am and they had started drinking then . Anyway that's Dover not the hotel . Would recommend if you need one in Dover

    « What a great hotel »

Booked on line and stayed one night prior to travelling to France, have to say straight off what a fabulous hotel!! Fantastic welcoming staff, great room which was nice and clean, we had a double which felt narrow as we sleep on a king at home but other than that everything was excellent. We are in the bar and the menu was varied enough to satisfy most travellers although their was a restaurant if you needed even more choice. We chose Burger, Indian and scampi and all reported they were delicious, especially the Indian which was enormous and various dishes were a nice change. All in all a fabulous hotel where when travelling to France I would definitely stay again, a credit to the Best Western chain!

    « Lovely place »

Stayed for one night. Hotel was very welcoming. Our room was nicely decorated and very clean. Disappointed that we couldn't use our balcony due to structural problems but didn't ruin the view. Bar was busy due to wedding but that happens everywhere. Staff very nice and friendly. Breakfast varied and filling. Overall, very happy with the hotel.

« Ripped off by this appalling place to stay »

Front and back doors left open produced a cold draught through the hotel bar. Private events on both nights we stayed for dinner meant we couldn't get into the bar or find anywhere to sit. Why didn't they use their function rooms for this. Very expensive for a very average stay - still don't understand why booking for three nights means a different price is charged every night. Pigeons in our rooms might have provided a bit of variety on the set menu. The same three choices every night. A la Carte highly priced - way above the quality, quantity or interest of the menu. Wrong papers delivered in the mornings, no apologies! My friend couldn't use the lift so they moved her to another room - then charged her a higher rate without warning. PS if you book a superior room you pay for a balcony which is sealed so there is no access to it. What I call a rip off. Then we both got charged for the wine.

    « A night in Dover »

Having stayed there before we were looking forward to a nice meal and a relaxing night. They had replaced the Plus with a Minus. The room was a small twin room, the door could not be opened completely and drawing the curtains was difficult. With a wedding going on in the hotel, the reception area was crowded, getting to the bar was almost impossible as was finding some where to sit. We were shown into a small dining room, as the main one was being used for the wedding party. This room was nice, but the standard of the food was poor, with some of it being cold, and although it was replaced it spoiled the evening.

    « Great location »

Potentially a terrific hotel, great fod and helpful, friendly and efficient staff. Rooms are OK but can be very warm. Sadly the beds are truly out of order. Small double beds with ancient mattresses that are well past their sell by date.

    2
« Great Location, Average Hotel »

Stayed here for 3 nights on a business trip. The location is fantastic, with the seafront and views of the cliff. The room was smallish, although I have seen worse, and the Wi-fi signal was poor. The fan in the bathroom sounded like you were on a plane, and you could easily hear sounds from the other rooms. The towels provided were dirty, and so were the duvet and bed cover. There were some nice custard creams with the tea refreshments, although again the plates and cups were not the cleanest. The lift had a mind of its own, you could often find yourselves waiting for ages. The breakfast and dinner at the restaurant was nice.

    « Overpriced »

Room okay once we evacuated the pigeons. Room rate was different every night- by £30 with no warning or explanation A la cartel menu very expensive Set menu the same every day When there was a function there was not enough room in the bar Front and back doors left open on an October night make it very cold sitting in the bar

    « DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY... »

Booked this hotel, which was not cheap, for a one night stay for a function in Dover. I am appalled at the state of the place. The room was small, dated and not clean by any standard. I cannot believe this company is allowed to charge people for such a poor and run down establishment. I cannot comment on the food at this hotel as there was no way on this earth that I would have eaten anything, if the kitchen is anything like the rooms I am sure it would have all ended in tears. Save your money folks, don't stay here and I really do hope something is done about this place.

« Tired hotel with dated furnishings and sloping floors »

We stayed in Dover for a few days and chose this hotel because of its proximity to the beach. First room we were allocated was really grotty, it was tiny, faced the back of the hotel and the floor slopes by 2-3 inches from end to end. It was not good and we asked to be moved. Placed in a room with a beach view and a small balcony - except the door is sealed and you cannot go out on the balcony The walls are paper thin and we were disturbed by early leaving guests walking around clumping as they went loud enough to be disturbing, we shared their TV choice and some of their conversation..... st 5.30am - not cool The restaurant was pleasant, service was friendly and prompt. Menu is good as is the wine list. Rib eye steak was perfect as was the Salmon 3 ways- thank you Paulo perfect service.

    2
    « Mediocre & ' spa ' grotty »

Stayed one night 6th October on business . Despite redecoration this is an old tired hotel . The advertised leisure centre and spa is incredibly grotty and smelly with no pool facility. 11 am check out ! More like a 2 star - TV hanging off the wall in my room at an odd angle. Food mediocre at best . Don't bother with this hotel unless you want a bottom rung experience at 3 star prices.

« Sub standard cream tea and spa »

Booked a Groupon deal for spa and afternoon tea with a mini treatment. Very poor indeed. The spa area is in the basement which consists of a waiting room a gym and the treatment rooms. The mini treatment was fine but the surroundings were dank and a distinct smell of damp in the toilet. Afternoon tea was a shambles. Tea had gone cold by the time sandwiches arrived. Not my idea if a special treat at all.

Great staff and always made me feel welcomed and special. Rooms were a good size and dinning was excellent, buffet lunches and dinner great value. Has a gym free for guests and massage available. Right next to the harbour so great for swimming walk in and out.

    « Disappointing »

Disappointing stay. Double bed rather small. Gym/spa could do with a make over toilets in ladies changing room constantly dripping. Smell in bedroom some sort of air freshener over powering Downstairs very nicely done, lovely reception area, staff very friendly. Not good value for money when comparing with other hotels.

« Beautiful renovation of historic property! »

We stayed one night for a Dover Castle tour the following morning. The rooms were big, the bathrooms were big. The linens were very nice, the staff was helpful. Wi-fi worked well. The only reason I cannot give this an "Excellent" rating is because the bed mattress was rock hard, but we learned this seems to be normal in England. This hotel does not have air conditioning, but they do have large fans in the room. We didn't need either as we left our windows open and the weather was not warm. During the time we were visiting, there was construction on the main road near the hotel. We did learn that much of Dover's "High Street" was destroyed during WW2 bombings and was not rebuilt to its former splendor. Consequently, Dover does not attract walking crowds and there isn't much to see. We walked a little, but felt a bit unsafe so returned to the hotel. However, the beautiful coast is lovely and we learned that swimmers begin their adventure across the English Channel from the beach in front of the hotel.

    « Lovely afternoon tea »

Very tasty afternoon tea overlooking the sea. Generous portion for two people and lots of tea!! Took my 6 month old so also baby friendly. We didn't book and went straight in but they did recommend we book next time.

« Lovely building, shame about the room »

We spent two nights here. The hotel is in a Victorian-era building, the last of its kind after WWII obliterated most the others along this former promenading strip. The customer service was a combination of friendly and rude, which seems quite typical of service in the UK overall. Our room was too hot, with the window only being openable about 6 inches and not really allowing any kind of breeze, though there is a fan in the room. The bed was only a double (not queen), and the water pressure was so low it took ages to have a decent shower. However, the hotel is in a good location, thankfully away from the local ghouls inhabiting the rest of Dover.

    2
« the hotel building was in bad shape structurally and this made the trip less than comfortable »

the building was in bad shape structurally, all the floors I walked on were slanted so much you could roll a soft drink can across a room, and some floor boards were sunken. There was also no cold water pressure in the shower so the options were to have a scalding shower or nothing. I reported the issue to reception and was told it was part of the charm of the building and nothing was done to remedy the issue. The staff on reception were a bit sour. There was no Sunday laundry service. The hotel was in a nice area on the plus side. Overall I wasn't impressed.

« Brilliant value, relaxing facial and lovely restaurant view »

My friend and I stayed here for one night through spaseekers and had a 3 course meal, spa treatment, full breakfast and twin room for £100. Our room was fairly small with a big bathroom but clean and more than enough space for us. The spa treatment was wonderful, very relaxing and professional. Our dinner was really delicious with a lady playing a piano and sea views, and our breakfast was delicious and included everything! There were lots of Americans and Australians visiting and it was quite busy which we liked. I thought the staff were exceptional, nothing was too much trouble and everyone was so happy and friendly. The decor was quite nice too and the hotel was fairly clean. Would revisit.

« Nice Hotel on the Water in Dover »

I spent a month in Europe this summer and this hotel was by far the best deal. It was 111 lbs for the night. We had a lovely room with a window overlooking the harbor. Breakfast was included which was really a lovely buffet. The room had two double beds and was quite small but served us well. Only comment was the floor was at a tilt... Which was a bit nerve racking but not a big problem. The gym is huge and wonderful. Most people are there the night before a cruise (which included us). Next time I think I will want to stay two nights.

« Long Weekend in Dover »

We stayed here for 3 nights. The hotel was fairly busy and it was not possible to get an upgrade. Our room was at the back of the hotel with not much of a view. The bathroom was adequate - it could be improved by moving the shelf to a more appropriate place (near the sink) and installing a more powerful shower which was little more than a dribble. There was a good choice for breakfast and it was nice to eat it in the restaurant overlooking the harbour. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is ideally situated for exploring the Kent countryside or for trips across the Channel

« OK for one night stop overs »

This is a pleasant enough hotel staff are friendly and helpful. Our room was on the fourth floor I think. Check before you book, there was no air conditioning on our floor an inadequate fan was in the room. It was extremely uncomfortable, had to open windows so you get traffic noise. The room was tired and in need of some TLC. It was ok though as it was a single night stop over. You have to par your car over the road in a separate car park. No security at all ?? Hotel needs modernising...

    3
    « Ok »

The hotel itself was lovely, staff fantastic and friendly. However, I find it extremely odd that they do not take a signature when you are billing food or drinks to your room. As when we checked out we were presented with a bill for food and drinks, that we didn't have. I think this is a down fall to the hotel, and the only reason why I would be weary of returning to it or recommending it to anyone. As well as One evening eating in the restaurant, the waitress or head waitress spoke to a waiter in such an unprofessional manor in front of a restaurant full of diners as well. Bad customer service and awful professionalism

    2
« Run down hotel, looks nothing like the pictures »

Having paid the full rate of £175 per night during summer, I was expecting something more up class and generally more well-kept. The building exterior looked like it had weathered a hundred years worth of storms, and felt like it had not been maintained since it was built. The room had no air-conditioning, very stuffy inside during the summer. When you opened the windows you were welcomed by unwanted guests (pigeons). On top of this the room decor and furnishings was just old and horrible, far short of a quaint historic charm - it was just plain old. The bathroom was again, was underwhelming and distasteful, I have had better in college dorms. As for the photos - well, the facade is that this is a nice spa hotel, but the fallacy is that only the reception and bar/restaurant areas are well maintained. Everything else (including the room and bed you sleep in) is just short of expectations. The only good point is the location, but there's other hotels and B&B options in the same area.

« Start of our Honeymoon »

I booked this s hotel as the start to our honeymoon as it's a 5 min dress be from the Ferry port. Was not disappointed at all. Room was great huge bed clean tidy etc etc. Free wifi codes adequate bathroom. The disappointment was getting an email a few days before saying the balconies were shut of for structural reasons. Gutted as we had a sea view and would have been perfect as newlyweds to have sat and relaxed overlooking to harbour. That said the hotel is great. Breakfast takes the mikey. We went to the cafe next door. It's owned and run by the hotel but it's not £16.95 each for a full English it's roughly £16.95 for both with Starbucks. And food from the same kitchen etc etc. Would definitely come here again if we were using the ferry as a couple. Great start to our honeymoon.

This hotel had a great location and struck a balance between affordability and luxury, depending on how much or little you wanted to spend. The bar in the lobby was nice to have, and the views of the channel were fantastic. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I liked that this hotel has historic features but still had the modern amenities that I needed.

    « Dover »

We normally received a free upgrade at this hotel but not on this occasion which was first time since the change of policy on this. Therefore had to put up with a view of the car park and road to the port. To have windows open was too noisy so had to go with the heat. Shower pressure next to useless. If you are after a standard room there are better priced in Dover. We did have dinner in the restaurant and breakfast - no complaints there.

Went there with my partner for a Sunday lunch. From start to finish it was lovely. Atmosphere was very relaxed, food was lovely and staff was prompt and friendly. I would highly recommend here, very good price for good quality food £18 3 course meal. Beautiful view of the beach, which set the afternoon nicely. I would highly recommend to anyone, ensure you book though as it does get very busy.

« Dainty, generous afternoon tea for two! »

Seated on the glassed in veranda looking onto onto the sparkling harbour and endless blue skies all the way top France, we treated ourselves to a really lovely aftenoon tea. It wastraditionally presented on a tiered stand with crustless sandwiches and dainty cakes including a mini eclair, macaron and nutty, toothsome mouthful. Service was charming and we could have tea or coffee. I enjoyed jasmine though the choice was rather restricted and the waiter needed a little bit more briefing on this aspect. I could hardly finish my jam and cream scone and left with a distinctly rounded sense of well being. Yum!

Lack of staff management and training. Low concern about bar customer welfare and quality. Sat at window table inside. Staff past twice but dirty cups and glasses from previous customer not cleared. We moved to outside. No different. Old glasses on table not cleared. « Lovely Hotel with Beautiful Views »

We stayed here for one night in a family room with 4 adults and we were thoroughly impressed. During August, myself, my Husband, my Sister and her Boyfriend went on a mini road trip and as part of that, we were heading to Disneyland Paris so had booked a Dover-Calais Ferry so booked into this hotel the night prior. Upon checking in, the receptionist was really friendly and helpful and could not have made us more welcome which after a long day was very much appreciated. The hotel itself was beautiful and we were all slightly disappointed that we had arrived so late as we would have really welcomed the chance to use the spa and gym. The restaurant also looked lovely however as we were all so tired, we chose to bypass this and order room service. Our room was clean and well presented. If we are being honest, it was not as chic as the rest of the hotel but was still well presented and we were more than happy with the room we had. We were especially pleased and impressed with the selection of biscuits to accompany your tea and coffee. The hotel offers room service on selected meals (I believe until 23:00 although I cannot be certain if this timing is correct) and then 24 hour room service on sandwiches. All 4 of us opted for burgers however the majority of our party are fussy eaters and 3 of the 4 meals ordered had alterations and all were met and the staff were more than happy to accommodate this and let me tell you, the burgers were simply divine! A+++ The hotel is well positioned if you are getting a ferry the next day, I think it took us about 5 minutes to get to the ferry port in the morning and yet from the hotel, you are overlooking the sea without seeing the ferry port. It had some stunning views. We will definitely book again if we are in Dover.

Great location in Dover. Easy access to restaurants and the ferry terminals. Rooms were clean and quite and a nice size. The bathroom in my room was downright huge. Outside terrace is a great place to gather for a drink and snacks. The breakfast was hearty and offered many choices. Would definitely stay here again if in Dover overnight.

What a lovely hotel! Plenty of parking right out front. The hotel staff was amazing. The room was incredible! Had a double wide porch overlooking the bay. « Good overnight stay »

My wife and I stayed here en route to France, along with my daughter and her three children. They had a large family room which easily slept the four of them. Both rooms were very comfortable, and very good value. Reception service was very good. However, we ate breakfast next door in Starbucks, much cheaper than the hotel. Hotel is very near the docks, and looks out on the sea with access road in front, so very quiet. Highly recommended.

I had organised Afternoon Tea to celebrate my Mothers 88th Birthday...From the moment we arrived, we were met with courteous and caring staff, who provided excellent service throughout the afternoon....Both the table by the window on a sunny afternoon, looking out to sea and the tea and presentation of sandwiches, cakes etc. was excellent and certainly made the birthday celebration a most enjoyable event. All in all an afternoon, I would thoroughly recommend.

Stayed here as Premier Inn was full! Was ok. Interesting hotel. As it is listed building, no air con but there was a large fan on a stand in the room. Small bed, shower ok but power very low. Had bar food which was ok. Proximity to the harbour makes this an ideal place to stay. Lovely to look out to the channel. Bit difficult to update things in this hotel as it has a charm in its history. Did not use any other facilities. Very friendly check in.

We stayed here for a night & I found it a really good hotel. Good location. Right in front of sea. It is just 15 minutes walk from the station. Dover Castle is also walkable. White Cliffs trek is also nearby. We booked the superior double room with sea facing balcony but could not use the balcony as they had to be inspected. The hotel staff provided us with free breakfast instead. The room was spacious & comfortable. The staff was very polite & helpful. The breakfast was great. Good options to choose from & very filling. Gym & Spa facilities available. Overall, a good place to stay & I would stay again when I am next in town.

« Nothing "Plus" about it!!! »

Balcony rooms advertised at a premium rate, however balconies have been rated unsafe by local authorities!!! But still the hotel sucks you in . To get a Sea breeze you can open the balcony doors by 180 mm!! But are not allowed to sit on balcony even though chairs and table are in place . Superior rooms are tiny, I wish I had looked at Trip Advisor before I booked. The receptionist was great, poor thing, guests were queued up to complain.

poor quality beds and bedding, windows not opening enough made for hot uncomfortable stay, hotel is dated and needs quality update starting with the basics like decent mattress and bedding. In hot conditions not a good place to stay.

« OK for night before a cruise »

Room was small; however it was clean. Mattress needed replacement as it was too soft. Hotel does have a small elevator to get to upper floors--holds two to three people with their luggage maximum. Breakfast buffet the next morning was fairly good. Everything seemed fresh and tasty. In general was fine for one night before a cruise. Staff were all friendly and helpful.

« not the standards of best western 4 stars »

Very used to stay in 4 stars, we were extremely disappointed by the size and the standard of the superior double room ( £179) we were given, very small window, some towels on bathroom floor obviously not changed, some bugs coming from the window seal, hot, very hot no air cond, the complementary personal hygiene items / tea coffee provided are definitlely not the standard of a 2 to 3 star hotel, for a recently refurbished hotel the deco of the is very disappointed and tired. Will be ok for halfthe price of the room to say the least but not at nearly £200 a night

    « would stay again »

have stayed here twice now and have had no problems as it's in a good area on the sea front and very close to the town and docks we would stay here again also the staff and service was very professional.

    « Spa break »

We booked an overnight romantic spa break through Speseekers and was told by three people that we would have a bottle of bubbly in our room when we arrived. We never got this and after speaking to the manager, was told that all we would get is a glass each. Don't book this break through Spaseekers!!!! The room was small and cramped and the shower had no water pressure so was difficult to even get wet. There was a water leak in the bathroom so our feet were wet when washing. The window was hard to open and the paint (and some wood) was falling off. For a spa weekend, it was disappointing as there was no pool or Jacuzzi as with many other spa hotels. The only saving grace was Inga who gave me the best back massage I have had. I would not go back there and would hesitate to recommend it to a friend.

« Decent but fooled by google images »

We enjoyed our stay in this hotel as our room was a decent size and was also clean. We had been given a room with view of the marina which was very pretty especially at night. However, parking was a hassle and we were fooled into believing that this hotel had a pool - which was a silly mistake made by us and not the hotel. Therefore, this hotel rating is average as it did not live up to our expectations.

« great location and nice hotel, but beware of the smaller "superior" doubles »

On the positive side, the Best Wester Plus Dover Marina Hotel has a great location, with direct harbor views and close to the tunnel for Dover city center. It is a full service hotel, with a nice bar/cafe with outside patio, restaurant, and Starbucks coffee shop, complimentary wifi, etc. On the negative side, superior double rooms have water view and balcony and all are priced the same, but as we found out the hard way not all their superior double rooms are created equal. We were given room 102, which one can easily tell from the balcony is HALF the size of the other rooms around it. The bed is not two twins pushed together (which is really king sized), but is a true double bed (small). And even though the bed was small, there was barely room to get around it (around 2 feet on the left side of the bed, maybe 3 feet at the foot of the bed, and 4 feet on the right. All their other rooms were taken, so we were stuck, but we wanted to get the word out. This room should be priced significantly lower that the real superior rooms.

« Nice but a bit cramped for three people »

Stayed here with my sister and a friend prior to sailing to Calais. Parking conveniently situated opposite the hotel and free of charge. The welcome at reception was warm but no upgrade offered as a diamond rewards member. The room itself was a little tired and far too cramped with the fold away bed. The meal in the lounge bar was ok and the view is pleasant. The hotel is very well situated for the port.

    « Nice little bar »

Didn't stay in hotel only went in for a cocktail or 2 after dinner. Staff polite and very friendly. Cocktails an average price and pretty tasty. Decor was clean and fresh. Better than our expectations of what it would be like.

    « Disappointed! »

We booked to stay in the Best Western Marine Hotel the night before we caught our really early ferry to Calais. As we had stayed in many Best Western Hotels previously we were expecting a decent nights stay. Unfortunately this was not the case. Our room was fine, however; we ordered a meal via room service. All three meals were incorrect in small but annoying ways, i.e. mustard on the chicken when there was no mention on the menu of mustard and my stepson hates mustard! I asked for a club sandwich on a baguette and got normal bread. Little things I know, but not what we asked for. It was a hot night so we left the windows open when we went to sleep. How I wish we could have slept! About midnight some of the hotel staff must have wanted to go clubbing. They all gathered in the street outside our room window and for half an hour shouted, swore and generally made loads of noise until their taxis turned up. I was knackered in the morning when we had to get up at 4am for our ferry. Disappointed by the hotel and would not stay there again.

    « Old Worlde Charm »

I have stayed here for work a couple of times recently. I stayed in a sea view room which was quite adequate and a bit quaint, due to the sloping floor. It was quite warm, but as there is no aircon that was expected. A fan was provided to help cool the room. The staff were all, courteous, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful with a good choice, the dining room overlooked the seafront and was very airy and spacious. I ate dinner in the restaurant and the quality and value was very impressive. Free parking in the car park nearby is handy. All in all an enjoyable stay in an individual hotel, which makes a change from the larger chains. My preferred choice for Dover stays.

    5
    « Perfect Location »

We are so glad to be given a room with a sea view. They also have a sauna and gym for no extra cost so it's a plus factor in choosing this hotel. 7 to 10 minutes walk from the train station and Town Centre. It's also walking distance to Dover Castle and the White Cliffs. Thumbs up to the staff of Best Western Plus Dover Marina Hotel & Spa.

    « Ok for 1 night »

This hotel is fine for a nights stay. We were initially given a family room on the upper floor. This was unbearably hot and uncomfortable as there is no air conditioning and the windows barely opened. We managed to move to a lower floor with a sea facing room which was much better. Location is great and parking is easy.

    « Pre-Cruise Hotel »

This was an amazing hotel! The room was quite large with three singles and a full bath. We left the window open and really enjoyed the sights and sounds. We booked taxi service through the front desk to the port the night before and they arrived right on time! Our only regret was not having more time at this lovely hotel!

« Lovely hotel great food »

Stayed here for one night with a massage included and breakfast . The hotel has lots of parking and it's free and our room was on the bigger side with sea view which was clean and airy and lovely view. Bed very comfy . Lift a bit small. Spa area very nice and staff very welcoming . The bar area is lovely overlooking the sea and nicely decorated the food at the bar was amazing and roughly ten pound each for lunch . The main restaurant very nice and the tomato soup is the best we have ever tasted . Two choices of menu in restaurant we had the a la cart at roughly 30 each it was delicious and lots of choice. Breakfast was very good with fab service lovely stay .

« Small room, no airconditioning, school dinner cooking »

We originally booked ? and prepaid ? a room at the Ramada Dover, some 4 miles outside the town, but when we arrived, there appeared to be a problem with the room ? they didn't have one, despite my having already paid! I know airlines overbook, but this insidious practice now seems to have taken hold in hotels. However, they had booked us another room at this Best Western, right on the sea front in Dover, and, as compensation, they included a complimentary dinner, so that went some way toward mollifying us. Our room, on the 4th floor, overlooking the sea, was pleasant enough, though really rather small. This is an old building, dating back to the late 1800s, so it was all a bit of a jumble, crooked walls, floors and corridors, but with plenty of character. Our complimentary dinner (for two) was the set menu (three courses) which was quite good, though nothing particularly special, and I'm not sure I would have liked to pay the full price ? the mains were a bit sparse, we both had sea bass, one small fillet each, accompanied by mashed sweet potato, a small quantity of kale and two frozen potato croquettes. If the kitchen had taken the trouble to serve a few boiled new potatoes, instead of frozen school dinner fare, then we would have been much more impressed! There is no airconditioning, just a small pedestal fan was provided, and the room was quite hot as a result. The bed was also quite small ? not a full-sized double bed ? so we didn't get a particularly good night's sleep, sadly. Breakfast was better than dinner, thankfully ? the usual assortment of juices, cereals, fresh fruits and hot(ish) cooked stuff, bacon, sausages, black pudding, mushrooms, tomatoes, scrambled eggs, hash browns. Danish pastries, croissants and toast completed the fare. Free wifi was good.

« Location is the only benefit to this tired hotel »

Quick review - we stayed here for one night in order to get an early ferry to Calais. The hotel is in a great location, 5 minutes from the port, with free overnight parking on the street outside. The downsides though; musty smelling room, uncomfortable beds, no air-conditioning and significant noise from the road/party-goers and 24x7 seagull population compounded by single-glazing keeping out none of it! Whilst it served a purpose, we would not return in a hurry, but in the right hands this could be a lovely sea-front hotel.

    3
    « It's ok »

It's a kind of OK hotel according to facilities available inside and outside. Good thing Is they are just in front of sea. Check the weather before coming here. It's a good raining zone so we suffered. £94.00 isn't that worth with limited facilities inside the hotel room. Got few complaints when moving here and there in second floor because sound can automatically produce when walking. Serious not our fault.

« Beautiful setting, good value, uncomfortable nights sleep »

Great location for the night before our cruise. Earned some points from the wife at the initial impression of the hotel. Great view of the beach, great looking building from the exterior, and great rate. It was a late July stay and the beaches on Dover were pleasantly breezy warm at high seventies (25C), our room however was a very unpleasant 90 degrees (32C) alllll night long. Very uncomfortable nights sleep, which is unusual because I can almost fall asleep standing. The provided fan can only help so much when its blowing warm air. The issue is the exposed piping for the radiant heat runs through the room even though the radiators are turned off. Second the windows only open 1/4 of the way so you can't cool the room off with the lovely outside air. Lastly all the beds were in urgent need of replacement. All of them just felt like piles of blankets, and my family roll away bed felt like it was tilted 10 degrees. With a little common sense investment in the hotel like functioning windows, new bedding and insulated plumbing the place would be adequate. To make it a true beach side premium stay its going to need some significant investment.

    « friendly, great location »

Fun place to stay. Staff friendly and efficient. Great location. Enjoyed the short walk to downtown area and up the hill to Dover Castle. Got a room with the crazy slanted floors. Once you got used to the floors it was kinda fun. Got us used to being aboard ship we were to cruise on a few days later.

    « Excellent value hotel »

This hotel was excellent value considering its superb location next to the sea. The room was a little tired, because of the age of the building but this did not affect us adversely. The staff were most helpful and there was an excellent restaurant in the hotel. A very busy place but can recommend it !

    « exellent stay »

very good hotel, value for money.Close to the port of Dover so a great way to start or end our journey. Great view from the restaurant and the rooms on the front of the hotel. Nice staff and Always helpfull and attent. Rooms sometimes can be oneven, but its an old hotel and that makes the charme.

    « Very disappointing »

We stayed here two nights. We arrived after getting caught in the Dover tunnel traffic jam for 2 hours. There had been a regatta in the hotel area so it was noisy when we arrived. Check in was difficult to hear the girl as the bar is a couple of meters from the reception. The room was so tiny that I had to climb over the bed to get to the toilet. There was a half used body lotion in the bathroom and the tv didn't work. After many unanswered calls to reception and having to go there myself things were resolved by the second day. The manager gave us a discount for our meal which was very kind of him. Wouldn't return in a hurry unfortunately.

    3
« Convenient if you are joining the cruise »

The hotel is very close to the cruise pier, however, it needs a good refurbishment of the public areas, specially the stairs. We were checked in (after the guaranteed check in time) in a room where the housekeeper was still inside, adding two extra bed in the room (we were only two) however, the housekeeping supervisor did an amazing job and found us a way better room, I am not sure if the same category I paid or lower but to be honest I don't care.

Good value hotel right on the waterfront, comfy rooms with nice en suite, didn't eat there but reports say that food is very good. Hotel has private parking there is also good on street parking outside hotel.Ideal stopover for ferry terminal which is minutes away. Lift to all floors so no stair climbing needed.

« Yet another Excellent lunch »

My wife and daughter went for lunch last Friday. We had booked a table in the conservatory which gives you a great view of the harbour. In addition to the a la carte menu they have a two course set menu for £9.95p which is excellent value and and superb. I opted for the steak which was £5 extra but well worth it. I cannot say enough about the restaurant and staff because they are both of a very high standard. Again this is a must visit.

« Classic old hotel in good location »

We stayed at the BWP in order to be close to the Dover Castle and cliffs, both of which are about five minutes away by car. It's not a modern hotel but the long halls and sloped floors in the rooms give it a charm! There is no air conditioning but the breeze through the windows in the front rooms was adequate during our July stay. Note, however, that you may want to keep the thin blinds drawn because of the pigeons - we had one pay us a visit, although he didn't stay too long :). This is a destination hotel and there was a wedding the night of our stay with loud music up until midnight, so you may want to ask about such things in advance. The beds and rooms were comfy, the restaurant was very good, and the staff was nice. Plenty of parking. The beach front is right across the road in front of the hotel and you can watch the ferry boats and cruise ships coming and going.

    « Horrible »

We stayed for 1 night. We were exhausted afterwards. We couldn't move the window-It was too old, so it had to stay open all night. As we came back from dinner pigeons were on our bed!!! The bed was a nightmare, appr. 1,10m for two... One side was askew, so i was falling out three Times during the night. The room was too small to Open out lugagge on the floor.. The shower was terrible, too. No water pressure at all... We booked via hrs Maybe because of this we got such a lousy room...

    « Australian Travellers »

Chose this Hotel for its proximity to the ferry terminal and also the cruise terminal. Lovely Georgian building right on the front street, with a great view across the harbour and esplanade. However, our room was an awkward shape to manage luggage and move around. The bathroom which was clean and equipped with hair dryer and fixed body lotion dispenser in corner shower was quite small and the light and exhaust fan both ran at the same time from the one pull cord switch and fan was quite noisy. Bed was reasonably comfortable and linen fresh and clean. The window could be partly opened with a view of the back street and row of shops, across to the castle on the hill so was quite pleasant. Being a seaside town, there are many seagulls which, unfortunately, leave their mark on windows and buildings. This detracts from the window view! Hotel staff are friendly but don't volunteer much information at check in except showing us the lift, knowing full well that you are a visitor. We have used this hotel chain world wide but found this one lacking in customer service. Great location, nice outdoor terrace for afternoon tea etc and Spa which we did not use, but other hotels would be worth a look.

    5
    « Close to Ferry »

We chose this place because of its location to the ferry terminal. The room was clean and comfortable. The desk clerks were friendly and helpful. We had drinks in the hotel bar and enjoyed watching the ferries and other craft go by in the channel. We would stay again.

    3
« Excellent Location, noisy night »

The location was good to find, they have got a deal with a parking and one have to park in the back at public car park, but before you do that make sure that you collect a parking coupon from them. We stayed on the fourth floor in a double room, the bed was just bigger than a single bed.We had a view (glimpse) of sea through the window. There was a wedding going on (9th July) and they have taken over the bar and more or less every where. I under stand that hotel needed the business but we had to go out in a town centre to eat. The DJ downstairs didn't stop still 1am. Every time I had to get in or out of the hotel, had to struggle my way though the drunken louts of Wedding party who wouldn't give you a way. The HOTEL SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST WARNED ME AT THE TIME OF BOOKING that there will be a wedding and DJ will be playing loud music till late.

« Spa and Afternoon Tea »

I have just returned from a spa afternoon with afternoon tea included which I purchased for a friend as her birthday treat. I would rate this as good overall as I think average is a bit unfair but there are a few areas which if improved would have made my rating excellent: Firstly, this was my first visit and the staff need to remember that first impressions count. Attentive reception staff in the spa would have made all the difference. No-one asked us if we had been there before, we were just told to fill in a form and then left wondering what to do next. We had to ask for robes and towels and only then were we told to follow a member of staff to the changing rooms. The package included use of the gym (which we had to walk through to get to the changing rooms and then walk back in our robes and little else! Would it not have made sense to put the changing rooms between the spa and gym so guests didn't feel quite exposed?) and the sauna which no-one pointed out to us and so therefore we never got to use. We only found it on our way out! Secondly, after completing our treatments we were told to go back to the relaxation area. We knew we had to be somewhere for afternoon tea at 3.30pm (spa reception staff failed to explain how the afternoon would be set out) but as there were no clocks in any areas of the spa and we had to leave watches and phones in the lockers on the other side of the gym we had no idea of the time. We assumed, wrongly, therefore that someone would let us know when we needed to be elsewhere. Eventually my internal clock made me suspicious that we might be late so we went to the spa reception to find out the time and where we should be and found no staff and that we had been locked in and couldn't get out of the spa area to get to the changing area! The only way out was up to reception which I had no intention of doing in just a bath robe! After 12 minutes a member of the public came in and we had to ask them to hold the door so we could get out. We got changed and headed back to the spa to hand in our robes and slippers as we hadn't been told what to do with them. Only after us asking were we told where to be next. The actual spa treatments were excellent as was the staff member who carried them out and again the afternoon tea was lovely and the restaurant staff were very good although a little thin on the ground. All in all I would return now I know what to do and where to go but it would have been nice to feel welcome, a few minutes of staff time at the beginning would have made all the difference.

    « Absolutely dire! »

This isn't a review of the Hotel - just the coffee shop. Have used it frequently over the past couple of years and wouldn't have raved about it - however it was acceptable. On my last visit ordered a couple of smoked salmon bagels - ghastly! My Partner couldn't eat hers (smoked salmon didn't taste quite right) I ploughed on and wish I hadn't. Hardly any soft cheese, no seasoning, no lemon and the fries arrived as a result of going to the counter to ask where they were. My Partners was 90% untouched and so received a refund - given with very bad grace! Such a shame as a great location,

    « Very mixed feelings »

We were a small group staying for a week. Some of my friends were not impressed with the rooms, and thought the 4 star denomination was a joke. I thought the rooms were pretty comfortable. BUT: Staff. Some of them were absolutely lovely but there was one bad apple, who should really reconsider his career in hospitality, a tall skinny fellow from Scotland. When we got back to the hotel late one night, it took him 10 minutes to come and open. He had clearly been sleeping, which is fine, as it was late, but he was not apologetic at all, and when we asked for a pint from the so-called "24 hour bar", he said we'd have to wait 20 minutes as it was his break... Your "break"? He should read up on "customer is king", it would have taken 3 minutes in total to pour the pints, take our money and make the hotel guests happy, then he could have gone on his "break" (i.e. back to sleep in the office). Room service was appalling, I could have made that £6 sandwich in 15 seconds. Room cleaning: not great. Found my used towel on the floor, as well as other things lying around. Bed was made in a hurry. Wifi was on and off, at one point off for 2 straight days in a row. Hesitated to leave a negative comment, as again, a couple of the staff were friendly, professional and accommodating, but it has to be pointed out when one particular member is rude and completely out of order, as it can ruin an experience. Also feel like I'm doing him a favour: Mate, if you read this, try a profession that does not require human interaction.

« Excellent Hotel! Great Location »

We were staying here before our Disney Cruise around the British Isles. This hotel is a short cab ride from the port. We enjoyed a very scenic walk to get pizza for our kids as well as enjoyed a nice stop at a pub and enjoyed the view of the area. It was great to see the swimmers. This was a perfect hotel before our cruise. We had a family of four and we had to have a roll away bed for the fourth. It was cramped, but we weren't there for long.

    « One Night Stay »

We decided to stop by this hotel on our visit to Dover as it is well located near most attractions (white cliffs and dover castle) and the train station. The rooms are a bit on the small side and they get quite hot at night, which can be a bit of an issue. They do provide a fan for the room but that doesn't really make much of a dent. Their restaurant (The Waterfront) is actually quite decent and I would recommend having dinner there by the windows (you can see a really nice sunset in the evening).

« Short notice booking to celebrate my Fiances birthday! »

Not being a particularly spontaneous person I was concerned about booking a hotel to celebrate my Intendeds birthday as that good go from good to bad really quickly....However - What a good find! We checked in late Friday afternoon and sat in the conservatory over the harbour and had a beer watching sun go down then changed and had a fantastic meal in their waterfront restaurant. We are quite fussy but we could not fault it. It was un-rushed beautifully cooked and there was enough staff around to meet our every need - Good Job.

« One night stay in Dover »

We were staying in Dover for a Saturday night and booked a room at the Best Western Plus. Very easy to find and the hotel is in a great location - right on the sea front. The room we booked was on the 4th floor and was small. Just enough room for a double bed, desk, small wardrobe and a bathroom. But the room was right at the front of the hotel and overlooked the sea, so great for watching the world and ferries go by. We didn't eat in the hotel or drink in the bar, but looks like a very nice bar area with seating outside for sunnier days. We left early in the morning, so didn't stay for breakfast, but overall a very nice hotel if you're staying in Dover. Easy to find, close (free) parking and very close to the ferry port..

« Noisy at Night and Rooms too Hot. »

We stayed for one night before a cruise. The hotel is well presented and the rooms are big, but there was noise from all around. There is a major road with lorries passing all night en route to/from the port at the back, so we splashed out on a sea view room which we thought would be quieter. However there were cars whizzing along the promenade all night, (presumably to avoid the traffic at the back of the hotel), so it was still noisy. The windows were so old and poorly maintained that they were almost falling out, so they only slightly dulled the traffic noise. Also the temperature in the room was far too hot, (and the radiator was on until we turned it off), so even with the window closed, it was not possible to sleep because of the heat. The Breakfast was fine, but the overall cost was well above what the hotel is worth.

« Awful beds and cramped room »

My room was on the fourth floor with a sea view. The room was cramped and the bed was really uncomfortable. The mattress sunk on either side and must have been years old. I woke up with back ache both mornings. The hotel was very noisy. It's about 1km to the ferry terminal yet the low rumble of the ferry engines was always audible. The hotel has single glazing which doesn't block out noise well. I was woken several times by the noise of the seagulls which perched on the ledge outside the window. The bedroom window opened only 2 inches so it was difficult to get any cool or fresh air into the room. The walls are really thin, I could hear people having a bath in the room next door and I was woken up numerous times in the night by people talking at a normal volume in the corridor and the slamming of doors. The shower didn't work so I could only have a bath. I would not recommend this hotel if you want somewhere comfortable to stay and a good night's sleep, instead choose to stay at the Premier Inn Ferry Terminal East, which is clean, modern, comfortable and quiet.

« Poor, poor and poor »

Arrived on a Sunday, hotel was quiet. Went up to my room, which I can describe at best as average. Single wardrobe with just about enough room for 3 items of clothing (the ironing board had also been squashed in the wardrobe). Two single beds with a socket in the middle so they couldn't even be pushed together properly even if I tried. A good night's sleep was non existent and the beds are very uncomfortable. The TV just about worked and most of the stations would freeze more often than not. No heating in the room either. The view was a car park and each morning you are woken by the lovely sound of seagulls tapping on the window or birds cooing right outside the window. I did not enjoy this hotel at all and will not be going back.

« Near perfect Afternoon Tea and Spa Day »

We initially found the hotel on Groupon in search of a spa day for a friend's birthday. As there were 6 of us we were struggling to pay 2 at a time. We called the hotel who were very accommodating and told us they would match any price on Groupon and we'd be able to pay for 6 in one go. When we arrived we all had amazing treatments, 4 of us getting back massages, one an Indian head massage and one a manicure. If you're looking for a day spent at a spa it isn't the place for you as there aren't too many spa amenities but for treatments it's perfect. We then had our afternoon tea with a free glass of bubbly. The afternoon tea was one of the best we've all had, one declaring better than the one at Harrod's! It was the perfect size and they were so accommodating to the vegetarian and lactose intolerant among us. I would 100% recommend this hotel for a day out with friends.

« Great location, Needs upgrading »

The room we were in was slanted and the bed was sagging in the middle. The door to the room slammed every time we used it. I mentioned this to the front desk as I was concerned for the other guests. Well that was a waste of time! The area was worth visiting.

    « Short Break »

Friendly service, sea view room compact but adequate, good location for touring the area or day trip to France, great evenings in the bar, excellent speciality nights, this is a hotel that is over 100 years old but still has a wonderful charm.

    « Convenient and comfortable »

Stayed here for 1 night before travelling by ferry to the continent. We were really impressed with the place. Clean & comfortable rooms and we had a fantastic view from the front of the hotel. It is in the ideal location in readiness for a holiday if crossing the channel. Lovely promenade to walk along outside the hotel also. We opted for breakfast in the morning (we had a good deal where this was included). Breakfast was a help yourself buffet style with a good selection. Only down side was there often didn't seem to be enough food. I started with the vegetarian basics as there were no sausages left and so ended up going back & forth as more food appeared - even then only about 8 items at a time of one sort of food. All in all pretty good though.

    « Hotel stay »

The staff are really attentive and helpfull, which would be a key reason to for us returning to this hotel. The standard rooms are small and if you book a deal expect not to have a view of the harbour. The restaurant is pleasant and the pianist playing adds to the atmoshere. The Sunday lunch is very good, but do not recommend the main menu on other nights...the food was of less than expected in quality, presentation and quantity. But would certainky again

« Overnight stay pre cruise »

Well - rooms with no air conditioning, a lift takes hours to teach you either upstairs or down, dirty crockery doesn't make for an enjoyable or indeed pleasant stay. The saving grace was a lovely cafe next door serving wholesome fish and chip and a good location. Window frames are rotten and frankly it needs gutting outside! Won't be back I would rather take my chance parking at the harbour and staying in a Premier Inn!

    « Afternoon tea and spa :-) »

My friend and I came here for an afternoon tea and spa day and it was absolutely wonderful! The afternoon tea was the best I have ever had! The scones were fresh and absolutely divine! The macaroons and sandwiches were delicious also! The masseuse was amazing and very polite. The bar staff were the only downfall, impolite and really quite rude. The woman looked irritated when I asked for a glass of tap water, they handed me a cloudy warm glass of water which is just unacceptable. The gent in the restaurant and the lady on reception were very polite.

« Badly managed. Undeserving of 4 star »

We arrived while they were having some work done in reception. We couldn't get in. We were ringing the bell trying to get someone's attention. Then another guest told us to use the ramp entrance. We did that with all our bags and then had to fight our way through the bar chairs with all our bags to head towards reception. We were checked in by the front door (the one they weren't paying any attention to earlier). They then sent us through the bar again, down the corridor, up the emergency exit stairs to the first floor to find a lift to take us to the third. Absolute shambles. Meanwhile there was an empty conference room that we walked by . Why not bring all your guests into that room to check them in while the work was being undertaken in reception? We understand that work has to be done but it needs to be managed appropriately. This wasn't and is very disappointing for a best western. We were directed to the car park round the back but had to walk round the front with all our bags because the rear exit was shut due to the works. The noise was going on until 11pm(on a sunday)- totally unacceptable We were going to stay in the hotel for dinner and a quiet drink but it wasn't quiet at all. Nevermind the health and safety element. It was so dusty and smelt really bad due to the works. We went out for dinner and drinks in the end. The cherry on the cake was when we tried to order room service at 11 30 to be told there's no room service tonight because of the work going on! They advertise 24hr room service on their website... Absolute shambles! As far am I'm concerned we weren't advised this was going to be going on. We paid full price for a lack of service, for a stay , a hotel, a room which was not fit for purpose, which was not what we paid for. I would also question their emergency procedures... the duty manager tried to show me where the car park was and was unable to open the emergency exit! Totally spoilt our anniversary. We were only away for one night. Spoilt. Not good enough best western. Taking this further Duty manager on the Monday was a very understanding gentleman called Trevor Ford who was sympathetic and apologetic. However it was not his fault his failure. We want a response from best western as it was totally unacceptable what we were subjected to at full price

    « Great hotel »

Did an overnight stay in this hotel with dinner, bed and breakfast! The room was tidy and clean, the staff were all friendly, and the food was delicious can't fault it at all! We also choose to have a spa treatment each which we both enjoyed! This is our second year at this hotel and would return.

    « 4 day break »

Staff exceptionally good and helpful. Good decor, Good food, Like all hotels, creaks a bit when full, but no real inconvenience. Lovely room but over the vents from the kitchen so cooking smells. Also room layout is a triumph of aesthetics over practicality.

« Afternoon tea is poor, lovely facials »

We got a Groupon deal for a treatment and afternoon tea, the facial was incredible. All staff we come in contact with were lovely, friendly and welcoming the only thing letting it down was the afternoon tea, the sandwiches had far too much margarine or similar soft spread in them and the cakes were cheap tasting, we have been for many afternoon teas ranging from £10-£100 per head this was the worst sadly we have had.

« not as good as expected »

We booked a room with breakfast 2 months before for our wedding night,we asked for a disabled room and also said we wanted to check in early as my bride wanted to get changed there for our wedding,on arrival my partner was told there was not any rooms ready and had to wait in the foyer for a room to be made ready which was then put on the top floor which was not disabled,so for a hotel chain with such a good reputation and the overall experiance we would never stay with this group again, Also i cant belieive that i had to pay extra for a sea view and not getting a disabled room with so much notice is not acceptable,,

« Booked the spa Groupon deal »

We booked a spa and afternoon tea through Groupon as a little treat for ourselves to kick start our holiday. We arrived a little late because the parking meter at the front the hotel was playing up so we had to move our car, it was only when we were inside that we found out we could have obtained a permit from them for free parking in the shopping centre behind. We were greeted by very friendly reception staff who directed us where we needed to go. I had a facial and my husband had a massage, we both enjoyed this and the girls were lovely and explained everything to us. Very very relaxing. We could have used the relaxation room as well as the sauna but we were running short of time. Once we had our treatments we went up for our afternoon tea. We were asked if we had any dietary requirements and as I'm a vegetarian I had a separate stand to my husband. We had lots of delicious freshly made sandwiches and cake served by polite friendly waiters. We are keen to book again and would definitely recommend it.

« Does what it says on the tin. »

Stayed here the night before our ferry to France. Staff very helpful and the room was perfect. Not a lot not to like! The price was competitive and included free parking. We didn't have breakfast as we had an early start, but the restaurant looked fine.

    « Lovely Hotel »

I recently spent one night in this hotel for work. I booked a single room but when I checked in they had given me a double room - nice upgrade. The room was lovely. The bed was amazing - great night sleeps. Only negative was the room was at the back and was a bit dark. The staff was very helpful and the food was lovely. Overall a lovely visit. Would definitely stay there again.

This is a nice listed building and great having a room with a sea view. Friendly staff and fantastic food, especially the carverey on a Sunday! Great gym too. Good value for money. a nice shopping outlet is located just behind the hotel. Certainly worth a visit.

    « Jaded Elegance »

The hotel has a great location overlooking the port area and the room we had was at this side of the hotel. The room was adequate but cramped. Breakfast was most enjoyable held in the elegant room which faces the harbour. The service was excellent and the staff most obliging as we needed to wait until after mid day to leave. Would recommend that you stay just one night.

    « Poor service »

A group of 3 people and we got given one menu to share as they had run out. There was about 4 tables of people. Waited about 10 mins for our order to be taken, was asked if we would like water, said yes please, we are still waiting. Never asked about any drinks other than once when wine was ordered. Gave up after 20 mins waiting for someone to ask if we would like coffee to finish the meal, we would have. Service was appalling and the food nothing to boast about ( we serves 2 big slices of patio, with one small piece of crusty bread ??)

    « Enjoyable »

Both myself and my wife had a hugely enjoyable stay for 3 nights from 2nd to 5th March, 2016! We liked our seafront room which was clean and spacious as well as the food, enjoying breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner of which, Bombay night on the Thursday was a real highlight. Added to this, the staff were pleasant, friendly and always willing to help. True, it is an old building, there are slants and creaks and when the sun is up it can be hot, but this just adds to the overall character of the hotel. Furthermore Dover itself is a great place to visit, more than just an access point to and from mainland Europe and currently going through a regeneration. There is the majestic and impenetrable English Heritage run Dover Castle to visit as well as the fantastic White Cliffs to stroll over with breath taking views to behold all the way to the wonderful St Margarets on Cliffe, former home of Noel Coward and the closest village in Britain to France. If that is not enough to interest people, there is also Samphire Hoe country park, which is found on the climb out of Dover as if travelling toward Folkestone, and is nestled below the White Cliffs and was created from the chalk that was put there from the Channel Tunnel excavations in 1997. There is a wonderful walk here with stunning views of the coastline, especially across to Folkestone itself! Overall, we had a great time and urge people to stay and enjoy Dover and not just pass it by!

« Accommodated Our Elderly Relatives »

Nothing was too much trouble, and my relatives felt comfortable and cared for at this hotel. This was during the Channel Swimming Time, so the place was packed out with enthusiastic youthful ones, but they were respectful of our older folk. The hotel staff gave excellent service, and the balcony room was comfortable. A little problem with ants caused slight alarm - but hey, everyone has to live! Over-all a safe and caring accommodation. All of the staff greeted us with smiles and dignity. Thank you.

« Sunday Carvery Birthday Lunch »

Just returned from a lovely meal at this hotel. There were ten of us plus a baby. We had a lovely Sunday carvery. There was a great choice of beautifully cooked meats and plenty of choice of vegetables to accompany them. Puddings were also very good. The service was very good and our young waiter was very efficient. Pianist was very good too and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. My wife was very surprised when staff came out singing Happy Birthday to her with a chocolate brownie surrounded by strawberries and cream, and a candle - lovely touch! Thank you :)

« Windows let in cold air, shower didn't work and very noisy hotel! Stay at Premier Inn! »

My partner and I came to this hotel in-between Christmas and New Year for a two night break. There are only two positives to this hotel. Firstly they give you free parking - parking is in a shared car park with a shop at the back of the hotel and the hotel give you a permit. The next positive was the location. Right on the beach front and was very easy to walk to the white cliffs which was lovely. Now here are the negatives: We stayed on the third floor. The room was nice but I would call it average - not a 4* and the bathroom wasn't great. The shower didn't work properly. There wasn't a constant flow of water and was not powerful at all, it was quicker and easier to wash my hair in the sink. The room overlooked the beach, but the windows were appalling. The windows were single glazed and when closes there was a gap - an opening, which let the very cold December gail in and all the noise from outside. The mattress was extremely uncomfortable and had a topper on top, but it really didn't help. All of this in my mind is not 4* level. So sleeping was impossible. The second night was worse as there was a wedding on and the noise was just too much until midnight, but the party goers were still outside in the early hours. Ah yes the wedding. Whilst I was very happy for the couple it made us feel like a pain for being at the hotel. The restraint was closed and the bar was "closed to other guests until the wedding party sat down for dinner" When it re-opened staff were very rude and it seemed like we were not welcomed with the other guests. I had to wait 40 minutes for afternoon tea and the older couple behind me left in the end they waited that long. When I asked the staff where my tea was they said the wedding was more important. Then of course the wedding party had their music until midnight, but it was very loud and with the rubbish windows I could hear everything at night. Now I am in my early twenties and I am not fussy at all, but we were paying customers so we shouldn't not have access to certain parts of the hotel or not treated or served as well because we weren't with the wedding. Surely if non wedding guests are staying at a hotel you should be informed so you can know to plan dinner away from the hotel or even stay in a different hotel? So all of this together just made the stay horrible. When we asked to swap rooms we weren't allowed as all the rooms were taken, but when complaining on checking out they said that there were rooms to swap with. Staff didn't know what they were doing. My advice is to stay at the premier inn. It's no more than a 5 minute walk from this hotel. You will have a comfy bed and windows that work. I have never had any problems with premier inns so go there. This hotel looks fancy downstairs but the rooms and staff make this hotel a 2* at best and not a 4*.

    « Carvery lunch »

A group of ten of us went out for the carvery lunch. The restaurant is quite small but in good weather there is outside seating. Good quality meat and excellent selection of vegetables. Came out at about £20 a head with drinks and tips. Would recommend.

« Worst hotel experience we ever had »

I have never been treated this badly in any hotel. I don't normally complain but the staff shouted at us. We arrived on saturday morning. We had booked online two months before a waterfront spa night at the hotel. Since we got there the service was terrible. First they gave us a room that wasn't waterfront. Then the lady at the front desk told us we had to go downstairs to the spa to book our treatments (which we had already paid for). Once there they said it was fully booked and we couldn't get anything done that weekend. The manager then called us (Chris) and told us that it was all our fault and he wasn't gonna replace it with anything. I have never been treated that badly. He screamed and shouted all the time. He was extremely disrespectful. Didn't offer any solution to our problem. I would have expected better for someone who works at guest services. It wasn't clear at all when we made our booking that we had to book the spa treatments prior to arrival. And at no point since our reservation anybody from the hotel got in contact with us to check why we hadn't booked it yet. The hotel itself also was disappointing. We found papers from previous guests at the room, the water from the shower had no pressure and the portions at the restaurant were very small. I am definitely not going back and I would recommend anyone not to go there either.

    « Friendly staff »

The best western was a great choice of place to stay in Dover. Friendly and helpful staff with an excellent dinner and breakfast with lots of choice. The sea views were very nice and only a stones throw from the town centre

    « Tired »

Stayed for one night on business. My room was tiny, heavily stained carpet, heavily stained walls, bathroom falling apart, a shower that wouldn't get hot, a tv hanging off the wall, lumpy bed, and most worrying a window that didn't lock and could easily be opened by anyone walking past outside. I was also disturbed twice within a couple of hours by other couples banging on the door claiming they had been told this was there room. And another time by a maintenance man that I hadn't asked for and who was very rude. All in all pretty shocking, and I'm not one to normally complain.

« Family get together for Easter Lunch »

We decided to get together for Easter Lunch rather than one person having to do all the cooking - what a fantastic decision. The hotel is very clean , the staff are very helpful and the food and service was brilliant. Great location too. There was so much choice for the starter - smoked salmon , cold meats , pate , soup - we couldn't decide. The main course was superb , we had four different meats , roast potatoes , roast parsnip - four different vegetables, we noticed a vegetarian option too. The dessert table was delicious too with lots of cakes/deserts to choose from - you could even have a little of everything. A couple of the staff really stood out - Ashley couldn't of been more helpful he really helped look after my mum , she is disabled , and made sure she was happy and comfortable. He even carried her plate and got her gravy. Also Carla was so friendly , helpful and polite. We never got the name of our waiter - he was great too ! We will certainly be back and would recommend this wonderful hotel to everyone.

« Quick trip to calais »

We stayed here last night as we were going to calais for the day. The journey started with an early arrival in Dover. Even though check in was only only from 2pm, we were allowed to park our car in the hotel parking lot, we bought a lovely breakfast that really was top class and the helpful staff gave us directions for where we needed to be. Our room was lovely and spacious and the bed was comfortable and welcoming after a long walk around calais. My partner and I enjoyed a lovely time at the friendly pub and had a fantastic dinner in the restaurant. Another hearty breakfast this morning followed by a relaxing Swedish massage. Yes it needs a new coat of paint but it fits with the theme, charming! Will be back again. Thank you to all the staff that made our short stay memorable.

« Not the greatest structure, slightly makes up for it if you grab a sea front view »

Arrived for Valentines day 2016 with my partner and from the outside it looked slightly run down but nevertheless welcoming. The service manager Gayan (who was brilliant I might add) helped us locate our room which almost made me start to think the exterior was a minor set back, until I entered the room.

« Would say Western but definitely not Best »

We booked two rooms on one booking. What we got were too rooms one on 2nd and one on 3rd floor. I understand if we were asking for a sea view, that may be difficult to get two next to each other but we got the view of the parking lot. I do find that hard to believe that they were not able to do it with one moth advance booking. The room. So we paid £89 and we got the basic two singe beds. Sounds good. Well, the room looks like it is under a leaking roof, the windows were not cleaned for probably a year and the bathroom window was bricked in. See pic. Would I recommend this place? NO Reason: For the price, you can definitely get your self something much nicer in the area. Hope this helps

« A slice of Regency Dover in a time warp »

The gently sloping bedroom floors will cause amusement rather than distress. Nice to have a full size bath to soak in. Fairly quiet on the third floor but with only one lift to creak up and down in. Standard double with town view fine for just one night. Bed on the soft side. But, a truly fabulous breakfast, fish to order as well as standard English buffet.

« Nice hotel but Spa not too great »

we were a group of 6 staying at this hotel over the weekend as we got a voucher deal for a 'Spa Weekend' - the spa in itself isn't that great, very basic facilities (have to walk through a loud and cold gym to get to one of the treatment rooms and sauna) and although i enjoyed my swedish massage my other friends had varying views of their treatments - two of my friends opted for the indian head massage but had very different experiences.. one stated that they didnt even touch her head?? we actualy booked the trip as a surprise spa weekend for a friend - so wouldnt recommend the hotel on the spa alone. the rooms were nice and clean, very quirky as all the rooms are wonky (this is due to it being an old building) Dinner was not that great, over priced and we were left for long periods of time waiting, one of the desserts was a 'fresh' fruit salad - which tasted off, we waited for the waiting staff to make a complaint but they didnt show.. the breakfast was nice enough it was a nice hotel, but would only recommend if you have to stay in the area

« A bit hit and miss. Lovely views, rooms ok although lacking in toiletries. »

We have stayed at this hotel many times, and ate there often when husband was doctor in the area. The room was ok, with a lovely balcony but the bathroom was short on toiletries and the tea/coffee making facilities were extremely basic. Food was ok - we are vegetarians and one of us is a coeliac. The Dining room had been given over to a wedding. The worse thing was the chipped and dirty tea pot we were given at breakfast. I would stay again, as I absolutely love the situation of the hotel, but it really needs to improve it's basic service. When we booked in and booked out we waited ages to be seen while the reception manager chatted idly away to another guest. The young waitress was delightful and helpful during our evening meal. The staff were very mixed, especially during breakfast.

    « A lovely weekend break. »

Four of us arrived for a 2-night break using Wowcher deals and had a lovely weekend. The hotel was modern, clean and had a lovely atmosphere. Rooms were very nice, we upgraded to a sea view which was definitely worth the extra cost. We couldn't fault the staff. The hotel was busy with a wedding and a wedding Fayre over the weekend but all the staff were friendly, chatty and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was fabulous with lots of choice of good quality food. Evening meal was good and although there was a limited choice with our deal we could have paid extra and chosen from the evening menu. Can't recommend this hotel enough and we will be booking to stay here again.

    « Beautiful spa treat »

What a lovely place to visit! I live in Dover and have so many time passed this hotel so I booked a spa day to treat my best friend for her 30th birthday and so glad I did. The girls in the Spa were so lovely and we felt so relaxed , not to mention the amazing massage I had!! We then had afternoon tea in the restaurant overlooking the seafront once again beautiful, the cakes and sandwiches were delightful and the service impeccable. A stunning venue I would hope to have the pleasure of visiting again!! Well done and thank you so much .

Best place to stay in Dover. Easy access to town and France. Great service, rooms and breakfast. Great value for money. The position of the hotel is fabulous as it looks out over the channel towards France. The garden room is ideal for breakfast as the sun streams through the windows.

    « Afternoon Tea! »

My daughter and I visited today, 15/03/16 for a spa/afternoon tea treat from Groupon. On arrival, I was given a Parking permit for my car and shown where to park. Very pleased with that, as we planned to stay longer than the free or paid parking was allowed! We found our way to the spa and waited for an assistant to let us into the gym/sauna area. This took a bit of time as there wasn't anyone on the reception, and no bell to alert anyone that we were there? Once in, our sauna was lovely. We had a treatment each, and were left feeling very relaxed. Fruit tea and water were available in the relaxing area, which was very welcome. At 1, we went up to the ground floor for afternoon tea! This was delicious, sandwiches, scones with fresh cream and jam, a selection of small bite cakes, and tea/coffee on tap! My husband arrived with our two grandsons, and we bought them afternoon tea too, which they loved! The staff, for both the spa and the restaurant were fabulous, attentive and helpful. I will be returning with my daughter in law next time ??????

    « I love Dover »

I went to Dover with my husband and stayed in this hotel and was really impressed by the friendly staff. My husband stays here a lot for his work so they do know him but still, I found them to be really helpful and nice. The breakfast was hot, plentiful and tasty and very well organised. The whole place has an air of faded glamour that I like - we could see the sea while we were having breakfast and the bar and reception area is very nice. You get free parking in a nearby car park so I was able to leave the car and walk the White Cliffs to the lighthouse as recommended by the lovely girl who brought our coffee and tea. I had a great day. The lift is very small and I would rather walk the stairs but I appreciate some people might find this impossible - apart from that I can't find fault with this hotel.

« Expensive for what is it »

I recently visited this hotel with my partner as a birthday surprise for me. The staff were not over friendly or inviting. The rooms was quite small. And the food was average. Breakfast on the first day was all you could eat which was nice however on the second day it was made to order which has less choice. This hotel was ok however is not worth the money that they charge. Also the staff need to be friendly and at least greet guests as they come in and out.

    « Friendly and comfortable. »

    « Terrible »

Alerted the manager to the state of our room, that we paid £75 for. He said he was unaware that there were rooms like this in the hotel and he was sorry. He offered us a cup of tea as an apology!!!! Very bad customer service and lack of understanding of basic room requirements.

We stayed in this hotel for one night (2 adults and 2 young children) before taking a ferry to Calais. Hotel has free parking about 100 meters away in the back (not secured). Wow, what a treat! We'd gone for a late Christmas treat to have Afternoon Tea & it was amazing. The sandwiches were fur different flavours, the scones were warm & so much clotted cream, not stingy at all & the cakes, petite fours, were delicious as well. The only problem we had was what to try first. We even had sunshine beaming in & a sea view! We'd definitely recommend them & hope to visit again soon :-)

    « Horrific hotel »

Reception area done up lovely. Check in and go to our room. Walking up, bottles left in the hallways, wall paper falling off. Arrive at the room, despair is what we felt walking in. We had a room with a balcony, opened the door, lock fell off, walked out onto the balcony which was littered with old cigarette butts and chewing gum. Went to make tea in a room for two, only one packet of biscuits. Complained and all they said was we will give you breakfast and offered and equally dismal room replacement. Got a refund and left!! Staff not interested, hotel in a bad state of repair. £200 for the pleasure! No thanks! This is supposed to be 4*, more like 3 at a push! AA needs to go in and review their star rating. Will not be coming back. Unless you are absolutely desperate and feel like throwing away good money, steer clear of this hotel.

    « A great hotel to relax!! »

Last weekend we went to the Marina Hotel. We had been given this as a present and knew nothing about the hotel. We were pleasantly supprised on arrival. The reception staff were very helpful and the hotel looked welcoming and clean! Our room was clean and had everything you could want and was lovely and warm! we were supprised by the arrival of friends who had arranged to come secretly and the reception staff had kept it all secret! The bar was quite busy but we managed to get some lunch and drinks with no problem. The food as fresh and hot and tasted lovely. We went for a alk along the sea front and up into the town. The evening meal was either a buffet or al a carte menu (which you pay a supplement. We all opted for the buffet and the food was amazing, well presented, Hot where needed and a large variety! You could have as much or as little as you required and on asking we could have cheese and biscuits from the other menu for just £2oo While we were there we had treatments booked in the spa which were fantastic the rooms were relaxing and clean and the massage and body scrub left me really relaxed and my skin feeling nourished! Breakfast was again buffet style and our friends were very impressed. We also had afternoon tea on the second day and the ambience was perfect and the food fresh nicely presented and we were offered refills on our teas! To sum up If you are travelling across to france and need somewhere to stop over night or you are spending the day at Dover castle why not combine it with a stay at this lovely hotel and find out it's special history or just book a overnight stay with or without spa and an afternoon tea! You will not be disappointed. A welcome awaits you,the staff are lovely friendly and attentive and you will feel at home! (perhaps a pool would make this hotel exceptional!} I will definitely be returning!

We would highly recommend this hotel, our room was clean and spacious with a great sea view, we throughly enjoy the food in the restaurant and tucked into a plentyful breakfast, the hotel staff were extremely attentive and professional, we are looking forward to a return trip, this time we will most certainly make good use of the spa !

having looked at pictures on here and then reading other peoples reviews, i was coming with mixed emotions... i altered the time for checking in time and when we arrived was told our room wasnt ready... the room is very dated and cold, the window wont close properly and the heating didnt work...

« Simple clean and tidy, bit more effort needed for bedrooms however. »

This from the outside looks an impressive hotel, your not overal spoils for choice but it's easy distance walking from the railway station. Dover over all I'm not sure what I was expecting but it's basically a huge port all built around that. It's a beautiful area with a wonderful beach and the hotel over looks this. I was relatively happy with my stay but we did have a room at the back with a rubbish view of a road. I felt most the attention had been put into the bar and eating areas and lack of attention to detail on the rooms. We were on the top floor and the room wSs clean tidy and well presented. But out dated bathroom and curtains etc. The restaurant that even offered a Indian meal offer, I however do like spicy food and had the restaurant menu and found this to be a little too fussy and fancy, nice overall but jot a lot of choices. I love desserts too but nothing interesting on the menu. Top tips....We bought a room only package and upon arrival they gave us to option to purchase breakfast but we actually went to the cafe next door (joined to the hotel) and had a full English breakfast for cheaper than the hotel could provide. We got to sit outside looking at the lovely beach. Tip... Ask for a sea view room.

    « Let down »

Stayed in a twin room recently. The room had a view - that's the best bit. There was rubbish under the bed. No we didn't go looking for it. We had to move one of the beds. The bathroom was very dated. No toiletries on offer. Biscuits were stale. Two teabags on offer. Room was boiling and the breakfast was over priced. A little tip. Don't pay for the breakfasts of staying. Nip over the road to the shopping centre. Staff are friendly and you will get a better breakfast. Suffice to say we will not be staying again.

    « stunning »

I recently stayed with my partner at the beautiful hotel which I could not fault at all. Its central to everything you need and close to the ferry port. The only thing that ruined our visit was the bar maid was a little rude. I didnt think she was professional after we had had a nt.a cross word but a miss understanding. Dont let this put you off visiting because it would be a shame to miss out on this amazing place and the rest of the staff were so helpful I cant recommend this place enough.

    « Staff were outstanding »

Staying two nights on weekend....receptionist Nikki was great...always catered for our needs and I can be awkward....all the staff were outstanding...I was looking for faults in at least one of them but they were all down to earth...perfect.... Food was great on both nights..I wanted something different than what was on the menu...and was given a different option...no problem.... If I was to comment on anything it would be the outdated look of the rooms and the creaking floorboards which were annoying at certain times of the night.....hotel staff were flawless in my view...

    « Surprise 70th afternoon tea »

Exceptional.....what more can I say.The staff from start to finish were well mannered , professional and the service outstanding. Aimee Langley the Events manager kept in touch both by email and telephone right up to the day before the surprise afternoon tea . The food was lovely and more than enough for 26 guests. What a treat well done !!!!! Kim Whiting

    « Comfortable stay »

I have lost count of the number of nights that I have stayed in this hotel over the past ten years. The hotel has undergone improvements since I stayed here last. The hotel no longer looks tired and has maintained its charm. Wifi worked in my room, Staff very helpful and friendly. Smoked haddock for breakfast was excellent. Would stay here again

« Disaster from start to finish »

I recently stayed at this hotel I booked the over night spa package for my Sister's birthday. I stayed at this hotel because I had heard it had just had a refurbishment. I can safely say that it was only the downstairs of the hotel (lobby, restaurant and bar) that had been refurbished. The room we stayed in hadn't had any work done to it at all. On check in I was asked if I wanted to pay for the room or set up a tab. I chose to pay for my room so I knew exactly what I had to spend for the rest of the weekend. I asked for a superior upgrade and we were allocated room 116. This room was very small with hardly any space to walk around the bed, and to make it worse the TV was on the wall at the end of the bed which made it an even tighter space to get around. We did ask to move rooms because it was so small, I thought that an upgraded room would be larger?? The lady at reception showed us the only other room they had available which was a standard double. It was BIGGER that our upgraded room, but it was very very hot and as there was no air conditioning we decided to stick to the room which we already had. Neither of these room were anything like the rooms they are advertising on their website which made me very angry. We went down to the bar for a quiet drink before out spa treatments when to our horror a man came over and started harassing us. He wasn't even a resident! He was telling us how we would love to kill everyone in the hotel then perform sexual acts whilst thinking about it. The bar staff could hear everything he was saying and obviously thought it was funny as they did nothing to get the man away from us and just stood there laughing. I later sent an email about this incident to the general manager and he didn't seem to care less. He said that we should have asked the staff to escort him our or called the police. I'm sorry but 2 young girls should not have been left to deal with this by themselves and the fact the manager takes no responsibility for it is a breach in their duty of care. A lovely man called Ashley eventually realised what was going on after about half an hour and got rid of the man for us which we were very grateful for. He was more that accommodating for us the whole stay and he couldn't do enough to make us feel comfortable and welcome, but that's as far as I can go with praising the staff. We found the others that we had contact with very inappropriate especially the reception team and bar staff. Overall the spa was quite good even though we had to wait a bit to be seen but we could see they were very busy. I would have been better If there was a swimming pool. The restaurant was lovely and the food was outstanding. We went back up to our room about 9 o'clock to realise that we weren't going to be getting any sleep as there was a party going on underneath our room! We went down to ask reception about the music and were told there was nothing they could do as it was a wedding the music would be on until 12 o'clock. We went away for a relaxing spa weekend to be kept awake for half the night. Surely it would have made more sense to allocate the wedding party above the function room? The bed was very uncomfortable and rickety. When we went to check out the receptionist tried to charge us again for the room as she said she had set up a tab for the room, even though the money had come out of my bank. Therefore my card declined. This was very embarrassing. I definitely would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

    « Brilliant dining!!! »

I have been here a few times now and each time the food and service has been superb! The decor is beautiful and the location, opposite the sea ,is lovely. Afternoon tea is a must and their Sunday roasts are scrumptious. Well worth a visit for a special occassion/event or just to pop down for lunch or a hot chocolate :)

    « Returning from France »

As we live some distance from Dover and frequently visit France as we have a home there, on this occasion to top up the wine cellar so it was to be a day trip. We decided to return on the evening ferry and stay overnight rather than the long drive on a wet, windy and dark night. We chose the Dover Marina Hotel & Spa which we booked in advance. The hotel is beautifully appointed on the sea front and is historical insomuch that it was never hit by bombs in WW2. Winston Churchill stayed there. We were given an upgrade room, sea view in the morning, very comfortable bed, tea &a coffee facilities and inclusive of a fabulous selection for breakfast seated in the front conservetory, all this for under £50.00. So good we have decided to have three days there and visit the historical sites and Canterbury Cathederal, we can also use the spa all inclusive.

    « Not a very good impression »

It was a weekend trip.We had a room with sea view which was nice. Room was not cold - also nice. Dinner was nice, staff very attentive and welcoming The bed was uncomfortable and also moved easily so much so when sitting the bed rolled out from underneath me. Toilet had stains. We ran out of Loo roll. Called reception who said it will be sent up but they never brought a replacement. There was a water leakage so pots and pans were in the main entrance-Bad impression. We were severed cocktails in a honey jar. The female staff that brought it said they ran out of cups. At breakfast, they ran out of the small hard bread, we asked for more, a staff member said 10 minutes. We ate other things and left 20 minutes later, still there was no bread in sight.

« Started well ended bad »

Arrived on a Saturday to a lovely welcome. Hotel was warm and bar food was lovely. Rooms are very warm but would benefit from air conditioning as rooms can get hot and sticky. Shower curtain could also do with replacing as it was quite dirty and stained. On our second day breakfast was nice. We went to go for a walk at 9.30 but found both doors of the hotel locked, staff were unable to find keys for 10 minutes, there was also a huge flood coming from the roof into the lobby, buckets and towels were all over the place. My partner along with other visitors informed the staff to turn off the lights as the water was coming from the lights and staff replied saying they didn't know where the switchers were. Staff on the Friday were very pleasant however we found the staff on Saturday very unprofessional....... Answering their mobiles while working... Overhearing a young man speak about having a shower. And a young girl at the bar who was also quite unproffesional. Management seemed poor. If our second day would have been like the first we would have returned however if we had arrived on the Saturday instead of the Friday we wouldn't have been staying the night.

« Very comfortable hotel with character »

This is a very comfortable old hotel with great character which survived the world war two bombings. Rooms are well furnished in style of hotel. Atmosphere in bar and restaurant was one of a relaxing nature. Breakfast was excellent. Highly recommended for a stopover whilst awaiting the ferry

« Poor stay! Windows so old and taking and loud! »

Had a £139 offer first didn't get sea view room so went back and said the the sea view room was crap anyway small tacky old looking, not a spa without a pool!! Only has a gym with old equipment and a sauna what is the point in that! Needs a pool to be called a spa! Unprofessional people working at the beauty bit, poor stay was not happy.

« Under the White Cliffs »

Improved immeasurably since the last owners went bankrupt after it had become run down. Attended a lunch for 35 people followed by a meeting which was very good. The food was excellent. The society to which I belong has booked again for 2017.

    « Lovely Position »

For a old hotel this has been renovated to a good standard. The Gym is fully equipped with lots of machines. The position on the sea front is lovely I arrived late and wanted to watch TV in the bar but the bar food menu is very limited. Best go out and explore Dover or go in the restuarant

« Groupon spa and afternoon tea voucher »

I brought a groupon spa and afternoon tea voucher for my mum, sister and I for Christmas at this hotel. Just been today and we were all very pleased with the whole experience. The treatment we had was very good and the afternoon tea was lovely. We all had a glass of prosecco too and it was a very reasonable price! Would definitely return and would recommend.

    « Warm comfortable hotel »

This hotel was very pleasant, checking in was smooth and efficient, the seaview room was very warm and comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities. We had a very pleasant evening meal served efficiently and friendly, dinning room was clean and warm as our visit was in January. We used the Spa facilities although not comprehensive the staff were friendly and must say I received am excellent manicure. Breakfast was buffet style but again included everything you would expect including pot of tea and coffee.. The hotel has parking facilities at the back, a most enjoyable stay and may consider a visit in the future.

« Get what you pay for »

The bed was uncomfortable and also moved easily so much so when sitting the bed rolled out from underneath me. The room felt cold and a lot of condensation was on the window. The staff sometimes felt disengaging with waiting a while in the bar for food and drinks to be ordered and received. Which when we did get it the food was not particularly nice. On the plus side the view of the beach was very nice

« Wonderful place to relax »

We stayed at Dover for only one night but could have stayed at this accommodation longer. Set on the marina it is right on the waterfront with a wonderful view. The foyer was attractive. Our room was very spacious, tastefully furnished and the bed large and very comfortable. We had a tasty dinner in the lounge and the feeling there was comfortable and welcoming. Breakfast in the morning was extensive with a wide variety of food and the service was very good.

    « A must stay »

My wife & I had a spa/hotel voucher for our anniversary and we chose to stay at this hotel. What an excellent choice, lovely quaint hotel, over looking the channel and the port of Dover, our room had a sea view, a lovely tidy well decorated room. We had a spa treatment included, my wife a swedish massage, & me a indian head massage, wow, talk about starting the break with so much relaxation, amazing masseaus. We ate out but the restaurant here is amazing, we did have breakfast in the hotel and wow my wife said it was amazing, i cant eat as i have an internal organ disease that causes sickness all the time. So to re cap, amazing hotel, amazing spa, amazing staff, excellent food and what. Location. A must stay for anybody We will be back

    « A somewhat disappointing Afternoon Tea »

Me and my boyfriend visited last month for an afternoon tea, I regularly go to different places for afternoon tea and as this was priced at £15 per person, I thought it would be a luxurious experience. The service was brilliant, the restaurant is beautiful and I cannot fault this at all. However the food was poor. The waiter kindly asked if we wanted to not have anything in particular, I asked for no salmon. Instead I was bought mainly cheese sandwiches- too many, no variation!! Everything was cheap, the cakes were not nice and tasted frozen, the sandwiches were bland. The scones were okay, so if we return we will just be having those and opting for the cream tea. I felt a little bit disappointed as for £10 you can get a much better afternoon tea in dover!!

« Great hotel in a excellent location »

I have stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions and have always found it to be consistently of a high standard. The staff have always been helpful and friendly and the rooms and public areas very clean and presentable. The position of the hotel is on the seafront with excellent views over the English Channel and Dover harbour.

    4
« Ideal stopover for France »

Perfect position overlooking the channel. Great breakfast area. Courteous and professional staff. Very comfortable bar area. Cosy rooms and comfortable beds. A quirky building as built in the early 1800's. Free car parking. Would highly recommend.

    4
    « Homely feel »

Most problems for us is Secure and lit Overnight Parking and the Hotel needs to work on that, we tend to still park in the street and risk the Meter Maid. However, Its always a pleasure to stop at this Hotel when passing through Dover,

« Thank you for a fantastic birthday »

Spent a fantastic day at this beautiful hotel enjoying a spa treatment then afternoon tea for my 40th birthday. The staff were so lovely, enjoyed a wonderful facial then an amazing afternoon tea, so much delicious food, they even bought out a warm brownie with a candle in it & sang Happy Birthday to me! Highly recommend this Hotel will definitely be going back soon.

« Beautiful location but not much else to say... »

The location of the hotel is great (beautiful white cliffs & historic castle and ruins) which is why I gave it 2 stars. There is limited parking on the street. The entrance from the Marina off Esplanade is CLOSED. There is construction going on and the hotel is inaccessible from Esplanade. You must go to towards the docks. The staff was very unhelpful when I called asking for an alternative way to the hotel grounds. Beyond its beautiful location I wouldn't stay here again. We had booked the room online and were given our confirmation information. When we checked-in, they had no record of our booking. The front office shared that they would accomodate the request even though we weren't in their system. When we got to our room, we had been given a double room versus our triple. (We traveled with our child). Sadly, because the staff could not provide us with a triple room, it was very very cramped. A broken sofa bed was moved into the room to provide our son a place to sleep. The regular beds were unstable, revealing that they were merely 3 mattresses stacked atop each other. The bathroom was average and everything worked. Sleep quality is poor due to the age of the building. The lift was in working order. Staff was average but my husband felt they were rude.

    4
    « Christmas Stay over »

Very comfortable room based in the back of the hotel without the Seaview, the uneven floors add personality to this old building. Parking very closeby. Many fascilities on offer and the food in this hotel is very good. Staff were friendly.

« Our stay in Dover »

An ideal hotel for the ferry otherwise an average hotel. Go out to eat and service at the bar not good , had to wait to be served even though the bar was not busy. There was no hot water early in the morning, the sink in the bathroom did not drain away.

    5
« Lovely old building and very obliging staff »

We enjoyed our single night's stay at this historic hotel. The staff were very helpful. Our room was well appointed and very clean, but we didn't have a view of the harbour. Our only complaint was that it was too warm and we couldn't turn the radiator down.

    4
« Snug, comfortable and real English hotel »

Thet hotel has atmosphere, reception and staff are welcoming. I had a single room, which was spacious, crispy clean and comfortably warm. Extra is the sea view. The English breakfast is sufficient, but as a continental I do not much care. Free parking at the harbour with ticket. Easy access from town by car to the main routes. City centre is within 10 minutes walk.

    4
    « Great visit »

Took my girlfriend here for a spa weekend for her birthday. Great room, Lovely view - having been upgraded on arrival to a sea facing room, food excellent and service great. Dover itself didn't have much to offer although the hotel made up for the lack through the many amenities. Perfect for a couples weekend break away.

« Christmas dinner and a stop over to save driving. »

We arrived in time for afternoon tea. The quality of the regular lunch food wasn't great although the atmosphere was lovely. Had Christmas dinner as part of a group later in the evening. It was very good, fresh, hot and well cooked. The restaurant staff were lovely although the bar staff were a little slow and room service is very limited. A twin room for £55, midweek, without breakfast I felt was a good deal and we will return (although I'll be taking my own pillow!).

« best Afternoon tea Kent »

I went here for afternoon tea and treated a friend for her Christmas treat! I was very shocked i must say. The price was amazing and the afternoon tea was absolutely delicious. We got so much of everything and it was all so fresh and tasty. The service was impeccable, our teas and coffees flowed and we were never in need of anything as our waiter was always at hand. marvelous the cakes were literally to die for. especially the scones. will 100% recommend and am actually considering taking a few more people as treats.

« Amazing Food and Restaurant Staff »

I have just returned from a long stay at this hotel and have to say i loved it. My room was lovely 320, it overlooks the sea front and was warm and spacious. The restaurant and the food were fantastic. They change their menu every week so always something different, however The Staff in the restaurant are Amazing. Didn't matter what time I went in, there was always a smile. The staff in the restaurant are a credit to the hotel, nothing is to much trouble. Its great. The breakfast buffet sets you up for the day and again if I was leaving early the staff would put things together for me to take to work.

« Superb stay with excellent staff and food to match »

This is the first time I have stayed in Dover despite visiting there a couple of times a year and this looked like the best Hotel available and got a really good deal that included breakfast so a real no brainer. The position of this Hotel is superb, right on the front with views over the channel and my room had just this on the 2nd floor so was well pleased with that. I could see my companies ships coming in and going out which was a pleasing site so great start. I was taking my customer out that evening and they had booked the restaurant here so thought it must be good and even better, didn't have to venture out. The food, drink and company that evening were excellent, not very busy restaurant but staff very attentive so a great night had by all. The breakfast in the morning was also spot on. I will without doubt stay here again when I visit next year and would highly recommend this place to anyone. Thank you to all whom I met during my visit, you made the stay very pleasant indeed.

    5
« A perfect place if one needs to stay the night in Dover »

A charming hotel, by far the best from the Best Western chain that I've been too. The place has some history too. Apparently Sir Winston Churchill himself stayed there. Not many more options in Dover - so a definite recommend here. Please don't be alarmed by the uneven floors - this is rightly a part of the hotels character.

    4
    « Great view »

When we booked we could only get a twin bedded room, when we arrived we were offered an upgrade to a double room, so we took it. We had a fantastic sea view, loverly big bath and spacious bathroom. Good tea making facilities. The only problem we had with the room was floor not level felt like you was walking down a hill, not great when your balance ain't great. Too hot, no heating on, window open and fan on and still stuffy God knows what it feels like in the summer?? Loud music till midnight and we were on the 4th floor and I could sing along to it. The staff seemed friendly but very busy, think it was a Christmas party. It done the job, we had a bed for the night with a great sea view. Would we stay again, probably not as we have stayed in The Premier Inn last time and was much more comfortable.

  • 1
    « Don't stay here! »

Really quite horrendous! Walked into reception which doubled up as a cloakroom. Christmas party activities made the whole place seem like a dirty hole full of drunk people. There was no warning when we placed the booking yet happy to take £111 for the glory! A premier inn is better quality and no surprise it achieves a higher rating than this dump! Food was awful and prices high considering the quality. A bottle of water and glass of wine cost over £10! Disgraceful, and the glasses were not even clean. Thankfully staying in St Margarets Bay tomorrow!

    1
    « It's like Park Lane... »

But that's just the price of wine!! £6.45 for a glass of Hardys wine, I can get two bottles of this crap wine for that price, GM please explain your filthy thieving ??? Nothing else even comes close to this being a hotel!! Don't stay here! It's truly awful!! Don't eat here!! The food is pants!! It's not quaint!!! It's just minging!!! It's dirty - fact!!! It's quite simply the worst hotel I've ever had the displeasure of staying in!! I can't wait to check out!!

« Unfriendly Dog Hotel with poor Customer service »

I had booked this Hotel on-line from Germany which said the Hotel was Dog friendly, on arriving at the Hotel in the evening after a long journey from Europe, with my small Bichon Frise dog Bibikins, who is full pedigree, well behaved, and spotless clean to say the least. " Proceeding to check into the hotel a man calling himself a Operations manager said " No Dogs allowed in this Hotel " I tried to explain that I had a reservation, and that my little dog BIbi would be no trouble at all,I had bedding for her,and she was clean and tired after the long journey. After a lot of discussions about Bibi, and 45 mins later the manager said if I paid a extra £75,this was for a cleaning company to come in and clean the room for dog hairs, and smells," future guests would not know that a dog had been in the room. Bibi is a beautiful pedigree little dog,Bichon Frise dogs are warm & friendly and really no trouble at all;she is clean, and we always carry Doggy pads for Hotel stays. " This Manager showed no compassion at all, he was quite rude, his attitude towards us was none other than disgusting to say the least. " We had a most uncomfortable night, leaving the Hotel early in the morning without breakfast, and the nightmare was over for us staying at this Best Western Hotel in Dover. The Manager should be ashamed of himself for trating Guests this way.and not forgetting BiBi my Bichone Frise.

    « Nice n cosy weekend away »

We previously stayed here over the last new year, this time my wife and I just booked 3 nights and used the hotel as a base whilst out shopping, great location, nice to come back to after hours traping around shops (Dover, Deal & Canterbury), our room was a double looking out to rear of building (I think rear, NOT sea view, which we previously had), a lovely size room, room was very warm when we arrived, but when cold snap arrived, room temperature dropped and never warmed up again, although we sort of complained about this, we understood that the room was large and took a time to reheat, staff were very understanding too, we only stayed on a room only basis, but had one bar meal which was nice, and a meal in smaller restaurant which was fabulous, we just love this hotel and all the staff do it justice with their pleasantness and hard work, great fun team, (treat them well to keep them :) ) ..

« Nice, clean, Victorian hotel with some real charm... »

If you are looking for a modern, shiny, slick hotel, this is probably not it. But, if you want some charm with modern conveniences, this is a good choice. My first impression was that the cleaning staff must care. That was proven during my stay; the rooms and public areas are very well kept. The building is beautiful, the rooms are charming. Some of the fixtures and hardware are old, but clean and fully functional. For me, this added to the charm of the hotel. The desk in the room is a bit small, but acceptable. The bed is not the most comfortable in the world, but I am rather picky about that. For most, I am sure it is fine. The food at the bar / restaurant is good. The service is very good. The health club is very good. Overall, a nice place and I would stay here again.

« A lovely position overlooking the sea »

We only stayed one night in a room on the second floor overlooking the sea (which we paid extra for, and thank goodness we did, as the view from the rear rooms is not good) The room was very clean, tidy and well maintained. We found the bed a little high as we are not very tall, but it was very comfortable. It was really lovely to wake up in the morning with the sun shining through the window. I sat for a long time taking in the sea view. We hadn't pre-booked a breakfast, but for an extra £10 you can have a full english buffet style service. The Staff were very helpfull

The room was ok. Not superb nor bad. The hotel is nice and has a really good location. The staff is friendly and helpful, no bad marks there. If however you want to have a good night sleep and don't like sleeping on an old mattress this is not the place you want to stay in. The floors give loud and weird noises and the walls are paper thin which adds up to a fairly sleepless night. All-in-all the breakfast, staff and surroundings add up and make it an average experience.

« Great days, highly recommended »

We spend a lovely weekend with my boyfriend in this hotel. All the staff members are nice and polite. Great gluten free options on the menu. Specially the gluten free pasta was very tasty. Our room was clean and tidy. We would come back definitely.

    « A good hotel room makes a stay! »

I would like to begin by saying that I can't highly recommend this accommodation enough. We had a lovely experience staying here for 3 nights. Let's outline the positives: free access to gym, fantastic sea front view, spacious clean and comfortable rooms, great location, friendly welcoming staff, free wifi access (although not great connectivity) and a lovely downstairs restaurant which provided a plethora of options with the added inventive of being able to use my taste card. What summed this place up was the fact that at the end of our stay they were happy to securely retain our suitcases to allow us to pop out for the day and explore the town further. On a less positive note, I would like to critique the hotel on the poor wifi connection on both iPhones and particularly iPads, the double bed was rather tight for two considering neither of myself nor my partner are large individuals and lastly the rooms do get very hot during the night but we were provided a fan as a consolation. All in all, a great stay, a great hotel and great staff.

« Convenient location with proper and clean room »

Nostalgic hotel in great location. Price/quality was excellent with cosy bar and restaurant. Enjoyed the breakfast . Pity the espresso was extra but £61 for room, including breakfast for two, can't be beaten! Keep up the good deals!

« Nice hotel and spa »

Had an offer deal for this hotel, was a nice break. Dover Marina even though a cold day was a nice view, food was tasty and spa was relaxing. View wasn't the best from our room but others were better.

« Nice hotel right on the sea front in a classic English style »

A nice hotel with a well-equipped gym in the basement lots of different gear there. And also a beauty spa, not tried that though. Situated on the sea front in Dover. OK room, but the rooms can be quite hot, despite it being November and the heat was turned off and the window open all night, Restaurant is good with a nice sea view of the busy Dover port.

    « Enjoyable »

Fantastic location, on the sea front. Excellent service from reception staff both on arrival and at check-out. Quirky room (with a slop) which enhanced the experience.Only 5 minutes away from the Castle. I will stay there again.

« The hotel was fine »

but the room we were allocated was like a sauna. The window had been blocked so we could only open it about 3". The room overlooked rubbish containers which were being used late at night and early in the morning.

    « Very relaxing »

I have visited the spa here before and was disappointed just over a few minor things, like no one to greet you when entering the spa ect. Have visited today with my mum for a treat and have to say what a lovely experience. Lovely staff from main reception to spa therapist (Sarah) who gave us the most lovely massage and was so nice and very helpful to us, thank you Sarah. Then to going for afternoon tea which was a great improvement on the last time we had tea there. Staff in restaurant were lovely, helpful, polite and took great care of us, making sure our tea was topped up etc and even providing a box to take the cakes home in. Lovely warm scones and Portuguese custard tarts, nice being warm also. We will be back most definitely.

    « Good Stay »

We have just returned home from a stay here for 3 nights, we have stayed here before 3 years ago. The Hotel is situated right by the sea front, and the Port. Our room was overlooking the sea. It was a comfortable room, the bed had a mattress topper on for extra comfort although it was badly fiited it didn't fit the bed at the top therefore, the bottom sheet and topper came down the bed and left it lumpy. The shower had no pressure and had to fiddle to get any heat out of the taps. We had a leaky towel rail in the bathroom and it didn't heat up. One other thing there was no socket near the mirror for the hairdryer, so had to dry hair blind ! Besides these small things it was a very good stay, we would stay again and again !!

« Avoid if Weddings Booked at this Hotel »

The hotel by and large was very good, the restaurant in the evening being particularly good with very attentive service and excellent food. The one downside, as always seems to be the case with the big chains, is that wedding bookings take a higher priority than couples getting away for the weekend, as we were. On the first night there was a wedding but the guests behaved, on the second night however things were different. There were people outside the front of the hotel, under our room (on the 3rd floor) drinking and smoking to well after 1.30am. The final straw was when some of the guests came back to their rooms around 3.00am creating a lot of noise. Other hotels advise you if there is a wedding to enable you to change your booking/move hotels, there was no such option with Best Western. My overall opinion of the hotel, which I understand had just gone through an expensive major refurbishment, is that they just needed bodies through the door and rooms filled. When complaining to the manager were were not offered any financial compensation (unlike another chain) only loyalty points and another, guess what, Best Western break?????.

    « Dissatisfied »

The check-in staff were not attentive. I pre-booked B&B stay, but was checked in as room only and had to rectify this and was not aced upon check - in. The bedroom was not very clean - i found hair in my bed and there was weak water pressure from the shower. Room service was incredibly sow and i had to wait over an hour for my food to be delivered. Additionally the cutely wasn't clean, with tea stains on the teapot and sauce around the sauce holders. I wouldn't stay again. The only good thing is the location and the sea views.

« An excellent venue for a wedding »

I came here two days ago for a wedding. Around 70 guests. Rooms used for ceremony were good space. Staff very friendly and efficient. Food excellent and served without delays. Liked the hotel very much..seemed busy and the reception staff all smiling!

    « Great little place »

This place is small but has character and a wonderful place to stay for none night. It is also a 15 minute walk to the ferry terminal and is located near the beach so no loud road noise. The breakfast is ridiculously expensive at 25USD for what basically is a free breakfast at other motels. Still I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place

    « EXCELLENT:-) »

We visited Dover to celebrate a friends birthday. From the moment we walked in we felt very welcome. The spa, rooms, restaurant and service where 1st class. The restaurant staff even bought a birthday dessert with candles to our table off their own back which was a lovely surprise. We would definitely visit again, thank you so much.

    « Noise noise noise. »

On the positive side, the room had plenty of lighting, & the bed was very comfortable, both of which are very important to us. The breakfast was wonderful. Staff were fine, especially Ashley, Chris & Sian, who were exceptional in the extreme. Sadly there were some negatives. On the first night we could hear awful music in our room, with a heavy base beat. We imagined it was coming from another room, but at 2.55am I did ring down to reception to see if the noise was anything to do with the hotel. I spoke to the night porter (I could immediately hear this awful music when he picked up the receiver), I asked him if there was music playing downstairs, he said yes, at the bar & he would turn it down, I said don't turn it down, turn it off. At 3.25am I could take it no more, I got dressed I went downstairs meeting the night porter on the way. The music at the bar had been turned down, but not off. But that was not the problem, the noise was coming from the restaurant where the music was playing as loud as ever, our room was directly above the restaurant. The night porter then turned off all music. Peace at last! He apologised saying the rules were that the music had to stay on 24 hours a day, but he would report it to the manager as this was not the first time he had heard this complaint. We now slept. In the morning we went to reception, & asked to speak to the manager. The lady there said we should speak to her as she was front of house manager. We relayed the events of the previous night to her, she apologised again but assured us the music is normally turned off at 11pm, though the reason it was so loud may be because when they cleared up the restaurant, they sometimes turned up the music, before the night porter turned it off at 11pm, but their present night porter was a relief & may not have known to do this. Not really satisfactory but we left it at that for then. When we returned to the hotel that evening, about 8pm, the nasty music was playing. We wanted an early night because of the disruption from the previous night. We talked to Chris on reception, who was amazed to hear our sorry tale of the previous night empathising with us & again said the music would go off at 11pm, we asked for it to go off immediately, or could we change rooms. He was excellent, he knew there were a lot of guests about to arrive & did not want to cause us any extra hassle. He sent his manager Ashley to our room, who heard the music thumping through the floor. He was very helpful & agreed to turn it right down & change it for classical music, without the heavy beat. This worked & we could sleep. But he did agree some compensation was now in order. On departure the next morning, we were expecting at least a refund for that Wednesday night, but instead we got 8000 points on their reward programme, which appears to be the equivalent of peanuts, which have yet to appear on our statement.. I also expected, at some point, that the hotel manager him/herself would have sought us out & made themselves known, & talked to us about our problems at his/her hotel. This was, for us, an extremely poor introduction to Best Western.

« Lovely staff and hotel. »

Me and my partner were treated to a massage for me (an Indian head massage) and a manicure for my partner as a birthday treat from my daughter and her husband. The spa staff were so nice and polite and we were made to feel very special. Afterwards, we had afternoon tea in the restaurant which included a glass of Champagne each. Once again, the staff were so nice, polite and very accommodating. It was lovely sitting there listening to a pianist while we tucked into the lovely food. We cannot fault the lovely time we had there.

    « Great Wedding Venue »

We live in the local area but had never visited this hotel until we attended a friends wedding. The Wedding was very well catered for, with friendly, helpful staff and good food. The room was fine, no complaints and good value for money. A very good atmosphere and all needs catered for. Free parking nearby available for guests.

This is a very quaint hotel perfectly located by the cruise terminals. The views of the water are wonderful. It is walking distance from the main train station and town. We loved our stay and would definitely return to this hotel.

    « Good traditional hotel »

We visited for one night. On arrival we were given a tiny room with a double and a small single bed. After complaining, we were given a much better twin room. Breakfast was excellent and generally service was very good. Free parking was available a short distance away.

    « Great hotel, »

Went to this hotel for a pals wedding, and what a great wedding it was. The staff here are very friendly and helpful indeed , nothing was a problem. The rooms were very clean and tidy, and thanks to a kind lady at reception she got me in my room quite early, thanks for that. The breakfast was really tasty, buffet style. The wedding catering was outstanding. There are just a couple of small problems we had, one was the drinks prices, two exact drinks changed price throughout the night, not quite sure why that was. The other slight problem was the table mats at breakfast came quite dirty and used , i think they should be binned or completely changed, thats only my opinion. Apart from that it was a great stay here with a good location and we would come back without a doubt. Thanks for a great night

We had a lovely sea view in a smart family room. The restaurant was half empty as the group of german guests had just left so nice and quiet for us but the next batch of guests were expected . The restaurant is nicely decorated and the staff are friendly, the food is good if a little pricey. gluden free menu available. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back

« Wow what a surprise... became a trip highlight... »

From check-in to check-out ... everything at the Dover Maria Hotel exceeded expectations... greeted wonderfully at check-in made me feel wonderfully welcome after a long day travelling. And if you are thinking of where to eat ... the restaurant "Waterfront" at the hotel is the best... fantastic service above all expectations and food that would rival any restaurant any where in the world... British but with a twist of world flavours.... When I checked out ... smooth and easy... everything was ready... one two and out the door... even having the taxi waiting to take me to the Ferry Terminal. World class service.

    « OK hotel »

We stayed here for a weekend, I had emailed before we arrived to request (and pay for) a sea view room but when we arrived we were allocated a non sea view room which was disappointing. I went back to reception and was told there were not sea view rooms available but after expressing my annoyance they did find a sea view room. Room was pretty small though. The hotel is ok, the food was very nice, and waiting staff very friendly, the location is good as right on the coast. The spa was not what we expected, we had booked a spa weekend and a massage each and I did expect a swimming pool, jacuzzi etc (although I should have checked this before we arrived). The staff were not overly friendly when we arrived but the massage was good. The spa consisted of a gym, sauna and relaxation room which was actually by the reception so not really relaxing with people coming and going. We did not stay after our massage as not really much to stay for unfortunately unless you just want to use a gym and have a sauna.

    « Stopover »

My friend & I stopped over here for a night before leaving on a coach tour. I had informed them it was a 60th birthday celebration but this was not taken on board as a very small room was allocated that was badly in need of an update. They had attempted to decorate but furniture & bathroom & lift badly in need of major renovation, considering the tariff. On a more positive note the girls in the restaurant made us very welcome & food & service were good although a little pricey for the portions. A curry night would have been an excellent alternative if we were not en-route to Europe & decided to be cautious on our choices. It was difficult to manoeuvre cases in & out with the steps ,however we discovered an alternative in the morning but this should have been more apparent or help given. Perhaps with a few tweeks this could be greatly improved?
