"A lovely hotel"
Ann Y, 07 Avril 2024

Delightful quaint older building in beautiful Rouen . Very friendly and helpful staff . Excellent breakfast with a huge variety of food beautifully laid out by an on the spot chef . Nice little lounge area . Great location for all that old Rouen has to offer Unfortunately we had asked our agent for a room with a balcony - which was quaint - but these rooms are very small and as we had just arrived from Paris airport after a gruelling 35 hour trip with 2 large suitcases for a month in Europe it was disappointing and a larger room was not available for our 3 days . This would have been a big plus for us as we were over tired and exhausted by our flight and car from Australia . Lesson learnt by us - check size and go big despite the cost . Overall a very lovely hotel

"Wonderful hotel in the cty center"
SNG56, 20 Septembre 2023

One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in and what an amazing value for what we enjoyed. Our room was spacious and airy with a desk and sitting area and it was serviced every day. It also had a coffee/tea tray which was nice to have. Front desk staff were excellent and very pleasant. We got great recommendations for restaurants. Its location in the city center made it ideal to explore the city on foot. Yet, even being in the center, the hotel is set back and very quiet at night. We enjoyed nightcaps there after dinner. Just an exceptional hotel in every respect. Highly recommend

"Best hotel I've stayed at all year!"
M8236XSmeganm, 14 Juillet 2023

My husband and teenage daughter and I stayed one night at this hotel while visiting Normandy, and we wish we had stayed longer. The hotel is ideally located in the historic center, the rooms and common areas are spotless and charming (with books and literary objets d'art from Flaubert), and the staff young and incredibly friendly. The breakfast was one of the highlights -- best hotel breakfast I have had in years. Absolutely fresh and beautifully presented breads, cheeses, charcuterie, fruit, local preserves. And unlike in the USA: Nothing served in plastic! This was a 5-star hotel experience at a much more economical rate.

"Ideal Rouen location"
ammiller2023, 12 Juillet 2023

Couldn't ask for a better location in the heart of Rouen. Delightfully situated within steps of the Eglise de Jeanne d'Arc and a vibrant restaurants. The rooms were clean, the staff was very helpful, and I appreciated the clever theme based on Gustav Flaubert. Also very convenient parking underground.

"There is NO STREET ACCESS to this Hotel!"
loricA5277FE, 07 Octobre 2022

In case it helps reduce frustration for other travelers, please beware that if you are driving to this location, the directions will tell you that you have arrived but you will not see the hotel anywhere. We kept circling and taking other routes to no avail. Turns out the hotel is on a pedestrian walkway and even the signage on that walkway is minimal. You cannot drop your luggage at the front door and then park, because you can't get to it by car. It would be very helpful if they specified this detail in their reservation confirmations and improved their signage. Aside from that, the hotel and employees were lovely and helpful.

"Comfortable and well located"
paulm652018, 18 Septembre 2022

The best thing about the hotel is its location - right by the old market place which is now buzzing with bars and restaurants. However, because it is in a courtyard, the hotel is quiet and peaceful. Nice mixture of the old buildings and the new, with comfortable rooms and it was good value. Helpful service.

"Superb boutique hotel in central location"
wanderlustbea, 01 Septembre 2022

A tasteful boutique hotel located in the centre of the historical area of Rouen. The decor of the reception area and rooms consistently follow the theme of the life and literature work of Gustave Flaubert. They even leave a copy of one of the novels of Flaubert (in French) and an introductory guidebook of him (biligual) in your room for those who are interested to learn more about Flaubert! Rooms are spacious (by French standard) and spotlessly clean, and staff are very helpful and friendly (they all speak perfect English, which is a big plus for guests that are non French speakers). Management of the hotel has notified me in advance that the hotel does not have air condition (as yet, although there are sign posts saying they are installing Aircon which is expected to be ready by the fall). It is not an issue for me, as they have provided a electronic fan in the room and the temperature was quite cool when I visited Rouen in late August.

"Super good location, and great personnel"
LukeFields, 30 Août 2022

Location, location, location is the main trump of this hotel. Conveniently located close to the no 1 restaurant are of town, and an easy walk from all the attractions. The hotel parking currently can't be used, but the public parking nearby is a 5 min walk and you get a hefty discount with the hotel stamp. 12€/night isn't a bad deal for being smack in the middle of town. The second highlight is the personnel. Super friendly and very helpful. We were traveling with a person with limited mobility, and both reception people offered unsolicited advice and help, car like access to the pedestrian area and other. Rooms are good and medium large (for France) and have all amenities you expect. The bed in our room however could be more comfortable. It had a topper/top mattrass on the main mattress, but still we had some pain on our hips and backs in the morning. Price for buffet breakfast went up from 16€ to 19€ which is just to expensive for the quality of what you get. There are cheaper breakfast options nearby.

"Really wonderful service"
Amy Rebecca L, 13 Juin 2022

Hands down the best service that I had in any hotel in France. In addition to the great staff, the room was perfect, nicely decorated, and had all the amenities one would want. I loved how central this hotel was, right off the market place

"Good location, good staff but why no air con?"
ted1974, 20 Août 2018

The hotel takes some getting to if you're with a car - need to call the hotel so the security bollards can be lowered. Oh, and if you've got an XC60 with a roof box you won't get in the car park anyway. But the hotel front desk did allow us to park it in the courtyard for the duration of our stay (2 nights). The hotel is well maintained, and looks pretty enough inside. However, we're having an amazing summer and there was no air con so we had to beg the staff to find us three working, safe-for-purpose desk fans which really only helped a little. So we had to leave windows permanently open, which didn't help my fear of heights! That said, the staff were really helpful (only two people staffing the front of house and operating the bar, but they all did it well. One of the kind chaps even put BEIN Sports 2 on to allow us to watch Leeds Utd dismantle Stoke in the opening game of the season! We had booked interconnecting rooms for our kids and ourselves, but they were adjoining rather than interconnecting. Fortunately, we trusted our sons enough. The lack of air con really needs to be addressed though, because it's the hotel's only major problem. It's location and staff are excellent.

"Visit to Giverny & Joan of Arc History"
Susan O, 13 Août 2018

Hotel was really central we drove and pre-arranged for parking at the hotel €15 a day which was handy as the car was privately parked up on the days that it wasn't needed. Note: there is a lot of roadworks going on at the moment in Rouen so you have to have your wits about you as getting around is a struggle in the centre. My GPS didn't have all of the roadworks and we finally ditched the car in a parking space the first day and walked to the hotel, got bearings and new GPS details of how to get to the hotel and all was smooth after that. The hotel is in a lovely spot bang in the centre of town but the courtyard entrance makes it so secluded. The room was very good, clean bathroom and room with fresh bedding, new towels if you wanted no need to bring toiletries apart from toothpaste & conditioner. Water was supplied but that may have been because it was 36degrees. There was a wardrobe but no drawers so most things stayed in the suitcase which was a bit tricky as the room is compact. We had a twin room on the top floor which had a roof top balcony but wouldn't recommend for little ones. Staff very pleasant and helpful we didn't eat at the hotel as there are so many cafes within a small walking distance for breakfast. Th rooms had no air con but probably not needed for much of the year thankfully the French doors opened. A lovely oasis of a hotel would use again.

"Great location, takes some getting there."
Gaitero61, 30 Juillet 2018

So this lovely hotel is right in the middle of the historic pedestrian zone of Rouen, yet has its own car park. Rouen has a one way system of narrow streets made more challenging by numerous roadworks. The pedestrian zone is protected by rising bollards. We got lost but a quick call to the hotel set us on the right track and gave us the code to the bollard. The hotel has a little courtyard behind the street from which reception is accessed. The garage is under the courtyard accessed by a lift and is a bit tight for manoeuvring but a a real benefit in this town. Room was well designed and laid out, comfortable and with all facilities we'd need but a bit short on space if you have a lot of baggage. Breakfast was good. Usual cold options of bread, pastries, jams, honeys cheese and cold meats plus hot options of sausages, eggs and courgettes. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Recommended

"Good, but sticky!"
GAKGGAKG, 22 Juillet 2018

Location is good, right in the middle of Rouen town. A bit of a challenge to get to, hindered by roadworks at the moment. The property is located in a sort of a pedestrianised/restricted road that requires a code to be able to drive to - obtain from hotel! Apparently they have 12 spaces on site that have to be pre booked and cost €15 per night, but we booked late so had to park elsewhere. We used the Indigo car park that is literally 4/5 mins walk - this was about €13.50 for 20 hours, so not dissimilar in price. Rooms - we have two kids, aged 8 and 10 and I booked two adjacent rooms, and due to my lack of understanding, failed to realise that they were not interconnecting. The hotel has no interconnecting rooms. So we had a kid each and the wife no doubt had a much better night sleep away from my snoring! There is no air conditioning in the rooms, which is a tad uncomfortable in summer, but probably much better for our health!! Breakfast good - usual croissant and pan au chocolat, scrambled egg and sausages, obligatory euro elements like potatoes and ham, cheese etc. Coffee nice and decent teabags!

"Dirty room, no parking although confirmed parking reservation"
Kersti K, 20 Juillet 2018

We booked a parking space as we booked our room but found out when arriving that no parking had been reserved for us. We showed the receptionist the email confirming our parking reservation by another colleague and she just shrugged. The bathroom had balls of hair in all corners and the carpet was filthy.

"Well located in the old town"
Eric670, 20 Juillet 2018

Well located in the old town. Comfortable and well refurbished. But what a pity not to have air conditioning !!!! That is planed, but during summer this year, be ready to sleep in a very warm room. They provide you for free with 2 bottles of water and a fogger, but i waked up really dry !!!

"Fantastic choice of hotel"
tricky79, 28 Juin 2018

This was a fantastically located hotel, great room with lovely big shower. I'm very glad there was a parking space at the hotel as parking elsewhere in the area would be tricky, it's best to book a space before you arrive and ask for directions on how to get the the hotel by car as it was a little tricky, but to be fair that was mainly down to road works. I'm going to mention the parking space itself as other people have made a big deal of. There is a car lift, which was a first for us but it was easy. a few people have moaned on here about it being a tiny car park and struggled to get their car in, this is not the case, it's a car park as you would expect in a city centre, some people obviously just can't drive because I drive a Mazda CX-5 and had no problem. All in all some people have to moan about something and I think that this hotel ticks all the boxes, Decent size room especially for a central hotel, comfortable bed, really decent bathroom with shower, friendly helpful staff and dog friendly and top location. Top marks.

"Would have liked to stay longer"
Lizc365, 19 Juin 2018

We stayed here for one night breaking up the journey from south to north....wish it could have been for longer. It was hard to find the hotel, due to road works and the parking was difficult as it's via a lift...our car just made it! That was our only down side. The hotel was friendly, clean, a good large room and bathroom, and a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was excellent, really good. The hotel is very central, everything was within a 10-15 minute walk..the Jean of Arc memorial is about a 2 minute walk away. We loved this place...well done!

"location, quiet, comfortable, and the staff is good"
Tom c, 28 Mai 2018

This a beautiful hotel built into the shell of an old building in a charming old section of Rouen. You are within walking distance of the Cathedral and the Musee de Beaux Arts as well as the train station. There are several great restaurants only 1-2 minutes from the hotel's front door. Our room was clean and quiet, the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was typical AND good. For the high quality, the price was reasonable. I was very glad that we stayed here. I am always interested in seeing how a hotel deals with a surprise problem. The second time we tried to get into our room the door lock would not work. The staff tried to get it to work properly but it was not going to work with a key. They very quickly got us into a new (and better) room just a few doors away. And they did get the door open for us to get our things out of the original room. This was an inconvenience, but I was very impressed with and grateful for the way the problem was handled by the hotel staff.

"Location Location Location"
Rvrman21, 12 Avril 2018

It could not be in a better spot in town. In the centre but quiet. Very small room, but in its favour the bed was comfortable. The "honesty bar was a welcome addition. The car park was not available, but to be honest, the access to the market square car park is much easier and a short walk to the hotel

"Friendly atmosphere and a great location "
Klaskedejonge, 02 Avril 2018

Relatively new building in an old charming location very close to the old market. Cosy room, a bit small with a good - but also short - double bed. Good value for money. Nice reception area, very friendly staff, recommended.

"Fantastic location"
pumpkinbunny, 01 Avril 2018

Great location in the centre of the old Rouen area. A few mins walk to most of the places of interest. Many bars/restaurants nearby with good choices and reasonable prices. Hotel is clean and modern. Underground car-park was out of use so we had to park in public car-park about 200 meters away - this also an underground affair costing 15 Euros per 24hrs (same as hotel charge)

"Great location...apperances deceiving"
Robert R, 03 Décembre 2017

While travelling through Normandy we booked this hotel for 3 nights as suggested by our travel agent. There are a few thing you should be aware of. You could not ask for a better location, from the hotel you can visit Rouen on foot. We also used the hotel as a base to travel to Giverny and Les Andelys. The hotel is rated 4 Stars, I guess I don't understand the rating system as we stayed in 3 Star hotels that were much better than this one. The exterior and the ground floor of the hotel are pristine and I suppose would warrant the rating. Surprises started to happen when we arrived in our room. The upper floors are in very serious need of renovation, I would estimate that major work has not been done in the hall for about 10 years. The room, however was very clean. During our travel we happened to hit a hot spell. Guess what the hotel does not have any air conditioning, we were told that there was a fan in the room. Exactly! an 8" oscillating fan which was of no use. I must tell you that the reception staff was very helpful, I can't say the same for the management. We requested a conversation with them ...twice. It never happened. In conclusion a 3 Star hotel at best, seriously need upkeep. We would not stay here again.

"They never got back to us to rearrange our stay"
F2518WBchrisb, 15 Novembre 2017

We were booked to stay at this hotel for a long weekend. Unfortunately, my father suffered a serious stroke just the night before we were due to leave and we could not travel. The booking we had made was not flexible but, to their credit, the hotel said that in the circumstances, although they could not refund the cost of the trip, they would let us rearrange it (as did Eurotunnel). Unlike Eurotunnel, though, they did not honour that - when we tried to contact them through Best Western's customer service department to book an alternative stay, we received no reply. We chased a few days later and were told that the email had been forwarded to the hotel but a reply "might take some time". After nine days waiting since the original email was sent, it was too late for us to make the other arrangements necessary for us to travel on the weekend that had become available to us for a break and we told Best Western that there was no need to reply now, but we were appalled not to have received any response in that time to a query that amounted to "do you have a room available". That email was never even acknowledged. Poor customer service.

"Great Hotel!"
sc0ttriddell, 03 Novembre 2017

I came to this hotel on January, as my cousin who's french used to study in INSA, so I booked in this hotel for two nights. The hotel was very beautiful, the rooms very neat, and they even offer breakfast!

"Not as we expected "
Noemielady, 26 Octobre 2017

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights over October half term for a romantic getaway. First the positives: the hotel is extremely well situated at the heart of the city centre. There are plenty of places to eat and drink. The choice is impressive. You are also close to all the shops, the cathedral and Gros Horloge. The town centre is simply beautiful. We were in the centre, yet our room was very quiet ( except for the noisy extractor fan in the bathroom). We were in room 501 on the top floor. The view from the room was gorgeous. Another positive: the breakfast. There was a lot of choice and everything we ordered was delicious. In addition we enjoyed the flat TV and Expresso machine. The room also contained a kettle ( rare in France). On the first night, we had 2 small mugs, which was great to make myself a tea in the morning but on the second night they were replaced by tiny coffee cups ( nit ideal for tea). Finally I must say that the hotel lobby was decorated with great taste. Now the cons. We were disappointed with the size of the room and the bed. We had picked a superior room as the best western website promised a larger room and queen bed. When we pointed out our surprise to the receptionist, we were told that all rooms were the same size but ours was classed as larger because of the balcony. At that stage I must specify that the balcony was small and shared with all the other rooms on our floor. The receptionist was adamant our bed was queen size but we did not believe it. The bed in the hotel room was smaller than the one we have at home, which is king size. We did not make a big fuss. My husband and I have a busy life like most people and we did not want this minor blip to dampen the mood of our holiday. Nonetheless we generally found that the hotel staff at reception were really cold. We realised that they were about to charge us for breakfast while it was comprised in our booking. They rectified the mistake but never apologised. When we checked out, I felt the receptionist was looking down on us. She was very unfriendly. I think she was offended as my husband double checked the bill. I must say that because of that last sour impression, i would not recommend this hotel to other travellers. I like being treated with respect when I treat myself to a nice holiday. This is my bottom line. For information my husband is English and u am French...

"Beautiful Hotel for a city break"
James W, 12 Octobre 2017

We stayed here last month as a group of four friends, driving down from Yorkshire. The hotel is beautiful and very well appointed inside. The staff were all very friendly and incredibly helpful - being very obliging to our requests. The hotel does not have a restaurant but it offers a continental breakfast with a brilliant choice of breads, cheeses, hams, cakes, jams etc. On first arrival we thought it a little expensive at €16 per person per night, however breakfast was not easy to find in Rouen and in comparison to where we did find, the hotel represented good value for money. The hotel advertises parking however there are only circa 10 spaces and you are advised to pre-book at €13 per night. We thought Rouen would be a good base to go off and explore from, which it was but the hotel not so much. It is located off the main square in a pedestrian zone, we had to phone reception to ask them to come out and lower the bollards to get our cars in. It was quiet amusing driving with centime tres of the pavement cafes! The carpark is underground and accessed by a car lift (a new experience for us) once in the basement it is very tight - I wouldn't have liked to tried manoeuvring in it in our SUV. However, if you're not bringing a car, it's a great hotel for a city break

"Chic elegance"
JetMorgan, 12 Septembre 2017

Hotel Flaubert has undergone a modernising refurbishment, which is programmed for most Best Western hotels. It is elegant and classy, with comfortable, clean, airy bedrooms. The absolute jewel in the crown though was the shower - the best I've seen in a hotel and I've stayed in hundreds. Helpful, pleasant, smiling staff. Location is conveniently central and handy for all the sights.

"Good"
Anna T, 04 Septembre 2017

Me, my mum, my brother and my grandparents stayed here for the night on our way home back from Le Pas Opton. This was our 2nd time in Rouen and our 2nd time in the hotel. The hotel and rooms are nice, the breakfast food is good and there is scenery around the hotel. The hotel does provide FREE wifi. However, to get into the hotel you must go through bollards. To do this you need a badge or you need to call the hotel and wait for a while. Then you have to go into a car lift (not so good for big cars) and park underground.

"Romantic, silent, but...."
Bychkovae, 22 Août 2017

This nice hotel is located in the centre of Rouen, in 20 steps from the old market place. The hotel has private underground parking with a capacity nearly 20 cars, so I recommend to book it preliminary. The parking is payable, a bit cheaper than public ones. The hotel is in the silent place and there are many sights, restaurants and shops nearby. The facilities in the standard room are pretty well, the breakfast is amazing, one of the best I have ever had... The distance to the Cathedral is about 1 km, 10-15 min on foot. Wifi was only one day of three and the staff didn`t do anything to restore it. The hotel welcomes the guests by the small bottle of Evian and on the other days doesn`t grant water. I`d rather prefer the bottle of cheaper water than Evian but every day... Actually, it is a challenge to find a way to the hotel by car - I recommend to ask them for detailed explanation preliminary or to use GPS.

"Very nice hotel with some flaws"
Vanessa C, 12 Août 2017

Quite tricky to access and need to phone hotel when you get close because roads are blocked by a barrier that hotel staff need to come out to open. No air conditioning which seems a bad idea given the warm summers. And oddly no soap in the bedrooms- so you have to enter the shower to use the shower gel to wash your hands! I have to believe this is an oversight!! But a great location in the heart of the old town and a smart and modern hotel.

"Forget it if you have a car"
Swiki, 09 Août 2017

Parking access is via pedestrian zone and is via car lift suitable for small cars only. Only about 10 spaces available. The nearest public car park is also suitable only for small cars. I had to park in a public parking garage 7 blocks away. Rooms ok.

"Convenient Hotel in City Center"
jamesddickson, 05 Août 2017

The hotel is extremely convenient to a number of restaurants that are situated around the square for Eglise Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc. There is also a convenience store just around the corner to pick up anything you might need. It is only a few minute walk to the Rouen Cathedral and other tourist locations. The room was clean and comfortable, although the window had to be left open at night to allow air flow.

"Although the location is great this is NOT a four star hotel and difficult to find."
suels12345, 02 Août 2017

We were never asked to telephone the hotel before we arrived at the secure pillared entrance to the pedestrian streets surrounding the hotel. Upon ringing the bell we were told access was for police only, hence we had to drive around the busy streets to find temporary parking and walk 15 minutes back to find the hotel. Eventually we drove back to the hotel and one of their reception staff opened the barriers! this should have been the case in the first place. We booked two adjoin rooms, but had two separate rooms on the same floor instead and our third room was on the fifth floor. The room on the fifth floor was very stuffy and hot with a small fan and opening full length windows which opened onto a communal balcony for all other rooms on this side of the hotel - not in the least secure or safe. We were to have access to the rooms at 14:00 but due to the disrupted access did not arrive until 14:30, on entry to our room on the first floor we discovered the beds unmade, and a mess around the room, it had not been cleaned from the previous occupant. We were offered another room on the same floor (so why were our children put on the fifth floor - an unanswered question). We wanted a room next to my disabled sister, so we waited for the room to be cleaned. We also had to request a fan has the rooms were stiflingly hot - no air con, which is surprising for a so called 4 star hotel! Most unimpressed.

"Perfect in all ways !"
anthony p, 31 Juillet 2017

Ideal location right in the old district, very comfortable and very helpful staff too . Rooms are spacious , modern and clean. They have underground parking too but let me park my motorcycle in their courtyard . This is my second visit and I'll certainly be back again .

"You can't always judge a hotel by its rating"
Youngrose, 25 Juillet 2017

Officially, this is a 4 star hotel and I'm sure that the appropriate criteria were met regarding space, decoration, amenities etc. However, ratings only give part of the picture and cannot reflect those subjective elements which give you the feel of the place. Sadly, this one did not "feel" like a 4 star property. Other reviewers have mentioned the parking and it was also an attraction for us when choosing the hotel. I accept that things will go wrong but the car park has been out of action since May. When we contacted the hotel to enquire about access through the pedestrian area we were informed that the car park wasn't available and we'd have to use a public car park but were not told it was still possible to drop off luggage. Fortunately we were travelling fairly light and the nearest car park is only a few hundred metres away. Like many French city car parks, it is underground and felt quite secure. The hotel rooms suffer from a lack of air conditioning. It would be interesting to know whether this is due to constraints of the building's design. If not, there is no excuse. We were in Rouen during a period of hot weather and both our room and the outside corridor were stifling, despite the provision of a fan. Doors led onto a balcony but we had to close those when we went out as it led to an external fire escape which was also accessed by neighbouring rooms. However, we had to risk leaving the doors open overnight. The room was a reasonable size, bearing in mind this is a city hotel. According to the website, superior rooms should have an amenities kit: we didn't see one. The soap dispenser in the shower didn't work very well. A plug socket was loose in the wall and came right out when we tried to use it. (We did report this on leaving.) Tea and coffee are provided but the tray contains the bare minimum - only one of each item. You really should not have to request extra items if both of you fancy the same drink! I realise this all sounds very negative but on the plus side, the hotel is relatively inexpensive, tastefully decorated and clean throughout. The breakfast is also very good. With reinstated parking, air conditioning and a thorough check of all rooms, this hotel could be a good base from which to explore Rouen.

"Great last minute booking!!"
beanie69, 24 Juillet 2017

Had booked another hotel online but having checked in and made to pre pay we saw the room.... not quite what we were expecting :(. But after a quick google search found this hotel, and the very friendly helpful receptionist welcomed us to the beautiful place. Can't fault the accommodation apart from the room was a bit warm for us. But highly recommend if you want a nice comfy stay over in Rouen

"Room quality not a good advertisement"
Serialglobetrotter, 20 Juillet 2017

I will try to be as positive as possible, but this was a thoroughly disappointing experience I am afraid the say. Firstly, the hotel's underground carpark was not operational so our car had to be parked in a municipal car park a good 5 minutes walk away where cases had to be lugged up stairs and along cobbled streets. Not a good start. Our room was on the 5th floor and was like an oven, 30.5 degrees C in late afternoon. Not helped but the absence of any air conditioning. A fan was provided, but really all one is doing is moving the hot air around. Even after a sleepless night spent with the windows open (rather insecure being on a balcony with access to other rooms), the temperature was still 26.5 degrees C. The breakfast was the one redeeming feature. Good choice of food, with cooked dishes served hot with the best scrambled egg I have tasted for a long while in hotels I have stayed. The restaurant staff were helpful and efficient. Well done! Lastly I had to present a list of room faults to reception on leaving, which included leaking toilet, broken bulb in the ensuite, loose soap dish in the shower being the most important points. Additionally, the tea making facility provided you with just one camomile tea bag or one Ceylon black tea bag or two stick packets of Nescafe granules. Pretty inadequate I would say. There must be better places to stay.

"Perfectly placed"
cracknep, 19 Juillet 2017

This is a lovely hotel tucked away in a small courtyard but only minutes stroll to restaurants, market square etc. A 10 minute walk to the Cathedral - perfectly placed. The bedroom was immaculate with very comfortable beds. The only thing a little irritating, was no drawers or shelves for those small items that people bring. The hotel served an excellent breakfast with lots of choice to suit all tastes. The staff were friendly and helpful. Can definitely recommend this hotel for a pleasant stay.

"Great Location, No Parking a Disappointment"
TheMarsBars, 18 Juillet 2017

Booked this place months earlier, based on the fact it was very centrally located and boasted secure parking and an in room safe. Days before we arrived an email informed me that the on site parking was out of order and we would need to use the public car park 10 minutes walk away. The rooms are very very small and not quite as plush as the management pictures portray. They are quite basic apart from the flowery quotations used as a theme throughout the hotel.

"Why were we left tea-total?"
jackmargaret, 17 Juillet 2017

An excellent, comfortable boutique-style hotel ideally situated in the very heart of old Rouen. Sadly the staff are not up to the same high standard. Despite what we had been told, happily the hotel DOES have tea-making facilities in the rooms, an essential element for our tour party of English visitors 'of a certain age'. But where, oh where are the tea-making ingredients? Returning early afternoon, we phoned to ask - politely - whether we could have some tea bags and milk, none being available in the room, only to be told curtly that 'your room is not yet ready'. With our room having been made-up next afternoon when we returned, again thirsty and tired (3pm), there was still no milk available. I called at the desk in person to ask - again very politely - if this could be provided. The response? An extremely unfriendly and curt 'You must pay for it!' My explanation that no tea-making items had been left met with a blunt denial that this was the case, followed by 'If you buy a cup of tea in the lounge and take it to your room you must pay for it. So you must pay for the milk!!!' This may sound trivial in the overall context, but to be denied TWICE the simple provision of a minute sachet of milk (and such boorish manners) is totally unacceptable in any four-star hotel.

"A very smart and comfortable hotel in a great location"
Darren S, 17 Juillet 2017

We though this hotel had a very relaxing ambience, pleasant (though small) public areas and very welcoming and helpful staff. My only niggle is that our room on the top floor was really quite small (though well-decorated and comfortable). I would also highlight the excellent location, close to the very lively Place du Vieux Marché. We were a bit worried about getting to the hotel as access is through a pedestrianized area but the hotel staff were ready and waiting and it ended up being very easy.

"Comfortable room but parking not available at hotel"
rexrich, 04 Juillet 2017

Disapointing because it should have had parking . As we had lot's of luggage we had to trudge about three hundred metres to an underground to transfer our luggage and also pay 15 euros for the pleasure.

"Top location if you have some information forr your car."
LexGrizzly, 29 Juin 2017

Forget the parking lot at the hotel, it's inexistant. What is true, is that you can put your car in the hotel during moving yourluggage to and off the hotel. Most of navigation devices will have problems because the access to the hotel parking is inside a pedestrian zone. So, the easiest way is to key in the corner of rue de la rue de Fontenelle and rue de la Pie aand you will land at a removable terminal. Phone to the hotel reception and someone will come and unlock the obstacle. In the surroundings you have at least 3 parkhouses wherre you can leave your car for 12€ per day. From the hotel you have all the attractions at working distance, and a lot of restaurants around.

"A literary turn in Rouen"
R K, 14 Juin 2017

We checked in on a Monday and this hotel is in the historic district of Rouen. It has a literary theme based on the poet Gustave Flaubert. It is one block away from a square lined with restaurants and a church dedicated to Joan of Arc and her place of execution. The room we had was a good size and overlooked an enclosed square. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. It was a little warm in the room and we asked for a fan, which they provided (the room had no a/c). The room was close to the elevator lobby but it quiet. It was a clean room and bathroom had a towel heater, which was very useful. We requested parking at the hotel, but it was full. The public overnight lot was 2 blocks away under the garden at the church dedicated to Joan of Arc (an easy 10 minute walk). Our stay included breakfast which was excellent! Overall, we highly recommend the Best Western Hotel Litteraire Gustave Flaubert!

"Fantastic location"
Artandmusic, 02 Juin 2017

The Best Western Hotel Litteraire Gustave Flaubert is a modern, appealing hotel right in the heart of Rouen's historic center. The room is comfortable, the breakfast is ample and varied, and the staff is knowledgeable and courteous.

"Great location"
susannejj, 31 Mai 2017

Within walking distance of all main sights.....in fact the main square where Joan of arc was burnt at the stake is barely 100 yards away. Lots of restaurants, all cuisines. Hotel is modern, clean and bright. Breakfast had good choice of meats, pastries, and even hot food. Small bar area,

"Good base for a weekend"
b10cjl, 31 Mai 2017

We stayed here on 27/28 May. The hotel is in an excellent central location. We found it in the car OK using instructions on website but the car park was out of action (and is likely to be for a while) so we had to park in a public car park. This was fine as not too far and very secure. The room was small but comfortable. There was no air con but despite the hot weather the room was surprisingly cool. The negatives were that there were no drawers (just a shelf and a rail behind a curtain) and the safe was almost falling off the shelf. We didn't have breakfast in the hotel and found a cafe around the corner where we had coffee and croissants in the sunshine for 5 euros each. We also found a lovely restaurant also round the corner called La Rive Droite which we would highly recommend - great meal and very reasonable. Rouen is a love place for a weekend and this hotel is a good base.

"Ok for one night but disappointing"
WanderingWebbs1985, 29 Mai 2017

Although serviceable for a short stay there were significant shortfalls. Parking garage out of order on arrival, tissue box empty (as mentioned in another review), empty shampoo/body wash in shower, sink and shower barely drain (had to completely remove drain cover in shower to prevent flooding), only decaf coffee in room (as mentioned in another review), no air conditioning and room stifling ( should offer at least a fan in hot weather). All in all not up to what we think of as 4 star.

"below average"
brunoarchambault, 17 Mai 2017

while this hotel is very well located, about 60feet from the old Rouen, this is not a very good place to stay, i wonder how they got that 4stars rooms are clean but very small, if you sit at the desk, the chair is up against the bed, no climatisation, so good luck if you are there during summer. no fridge in the rooms and the internet is as fast as the internet i had in 1996 ! its a small thing but the kleenex box was empty, and they only had decaf coffee in my room, that means they go really fast cleaning them and they forget stuff, staff is alright but nothing more. next time i'll make sure we go somewhere else.

"Wonderful location"
ferrisdaveyjones, 18 Mars 2017

Right off a main square. Spacious room with large bathroom. The room was bright and well appointed. Very friendly staff person greeted us on arrival. Really good value for the money. Little hard to find by car. You turn into what would be an alley in America and then turn into another one. Would definitely stay here again.

"Comfortable bed, great location"
stripesrus, 01 Mars 2017

We stayed for 1 night and had a good sleep. Hotel has all the essentials and is in a great location to walk around and see Rouen. Hotel is in a pedestrian area and we were a bit confused to find it with rental car. Partly due to jet lag and our first time in France. Receptionist was very patient and kind when I called for instructions to parking area. Parking is limited. Our first time using an elevator to take care down to parking spot. Lots of restaurants around hotel and interesting shops to look in. Would recommend staying here.

"Worst experience ever!!"
Sara808080, 25 Janvier 2017

1) Zero service! 2) Non existent room service! Take your own food and snacks! "We have some sweets here at the reception of you want to come and get it!" 3) They recommend an app where you can order food. IF THE WIFI WORKS! It took more than 20 mins with this internet to order food. 4) I case you manage to order food and they forget to deliver fork and knife, don't expect that someone will bring you. You have to go downstairs and get it yourself. 5) In case you room is freezing cold and you want to order a warm drink, of course you have to go downstairs and get it. 6) Make sure your definition of hot is something like cold ... because your "hot chocolate" is served cold! Really, this was the best. 7) Don't expect anything to be clean ... your hot chocolate is decorated with stains and finger prints. See the pictures ... So this was my first few hours here ... not sure if I can survive here two more days!

"Very convenient for Rouen old town"
1953Trek, 03 Janvier 2017

Decor very modern and staff friendly and helpful. Do beware the parking though! The car access through pedestrianised streets can be a bit tricky and the final step is via a car lift which takes you one floor down to a basement parking level. The lift is hardly any bigger than a medium sized European car and you have to drive in forwards at outside ground level and reverse out of the lift into the basement. - but there isn't much room! Once the car is parked, just enjoy this excellent well-priced hotel! You are right in the old town and it's a short stroll to places of interest. Breakfasts are quite expensive but good quality, quantity and value for money, as was our room, we thought..

"A lovely gem in the middle of the city."
vikingo47, 07 Décembre 2016

Stayed there for 3 nights and enjoyed it very much. rooms are slightly on the small size but clean and comfortable. The breakfast was indeed excellent, lovely choice and a very helpful and smiling lady dealing with it, Thank you to her. the staff were efficient, most helpful in every way. parking is ok and a little testing to find the hotel the hotel by car but when you get there it is perfect. I will come again, I hope as perfect location. Could have a wider choice in the bar department.

"Overnight stop, in a very busy city."
Paul L, 20 Novembre 2016

The memory of this hotel that I will never forget is, locating it during a very busy rush-hour in darkness. If you are unfamiliar with this hotel and you are driving, attempt to locate it during daylight. It is located in the 'old' part of town, even when successful you have to communicate with the hotel via a speaker, in order to allow the bollard to be lowered in order to negotiate entry to hotel parking. Hotel location for an evening out in Rouen is perfect, you are surrounded with restaurants & bars, right inthe centre of town.

"a lovely experience"
christine G, 13 Novembre 2016

The idea behind the Best Western Hotel Litteraire was intriguing. We only stayed overnight but I could have spent a week reading my way through their Flaubert library. The hotel staff were helpful and charming, our room spacious , quiet and well appointed. There was parking available for an extra 13€, which saved us the chore of looking for a parking space in Central Rouen. We walked out of the hotel into the main square and the old town with a wealth of restaurants was really on our doorstep. We will definitely go back. And try their sister hotel in Paris dedicated to Proust.

"In the historic heart of Rouen"
phew01, 01 Novembre 2016

Really pleased with our stay. We love Rouen and the wonderful historic heart of the city. The half timbered buildings, churches, cathedral and restaurants are so worth a visit as is the Joan of Arc presentation. First time we had chosen to stay at the Best Western, had a superior room with Terrace, no bad things to say. breakfast choice was sufficient and staff very friendly. Thanks for a great stay

"Excellent "
Graham B, 31 Octobre 2016

Great hotel. Fantastic location in the centre of Rouen. Room was excellent. Plenty of room and a very comfy bed. Underground parking at hotel was a bonus. Very close to the restaurants and bars of this beautiful French town.

"Perfect little stop off Hotel"
Richard W, 30 Octobre 2016

Stayed as a stop off on a motorcycle tour just as it was being done up. Lovely wee hotel, clean, right in the middle of town for exploring. Went out for dinner in the town that night plenty of places available, had breakfast in the hotel which was standard lovely French breakfast. Quite hard to find using the sat nav and up the actual town street, luckily we were on the motorcycle so no issues but don't fancy it in a car. Great rooms and a great nights sleep in this historic town, definitely will use again when up that direction.

"Excellent location and brilliant breakfast included"
Irayna O, 29 Octobre 2016

We had a pair of rooms behind a front door onto a little hallway, in the annexe under the archway, which was ideal as we had our teenage son with us and he could be private in his own room. The rate included breakfast and this was a good spread of pastries, meats, cheeses and hot food. Location was great, walking distance to all the attractions and so many restaurants that we barely had to go 100 metres to eat each night. We also had lovely little balconies where we could have had afternoon tea if the October weather had been kinder!

"Got a free upgrade to an excellent room in the centre of Rouen"
Peter C, 17 Octobre 2016

On arrival was informed that we had been upgraded (happy days). Beautiful room with plush bed, massive telly, relaxing area with a mini terrace area. Hotel had a bar next to reception that the reception staff tended too. Nice overall feel to it. Parking available. Would highly recommend and will definitely go back if we are in the area again. Great location for tourism, restaurants and cafes.

"Good Location"
Julie W, 11 Octobre 2016

The hotel is situated in a very good location just off the old market place with a wealth of restaurants nearby and very close to the Gros Horloge, church of Joan of Arc and the cathedral. Car parking directions need to be much clearer as you cannot actually gain access by car without pressing a button on a bollard in the pedestrian street and asking the police to lower the bollard to gain access. Very frustrating on arrival in the rain at the end of a long drive. Staff were friendly but not terribly accommodating. We had booked in for seven nights as we did not want to move from hotel to hotel during our holiday and decided to use Rouen as a base to avoid living out of a suitcase. The room had very limited space for clothes - not even a drawer. We asked if they had any sets of drawers they could put in but were told "no". Ironically we therefore spent the week with half of our clothes in the suitcase - a situation we had wanted to avoid. We asked if we could have some extra milk for our room and were again told "no" A bit of a mean response in my view. Breakfast was very overpriced at 15 euros per head.

"Good location but otherwise very disappointed"
Rabbytes, 01 Octobre 2016

We had booked a so called comfort room including breakfast directly at the Best Western website for a short stopover from Brittany to Germany. We had some doubts about the hotel as we normally do not like hotel chains, but we were late and not many hotel rooms were available throughout Rouen, and this seemed the most reasonable choice. The pictures on the website seemed very chic as well. However, look for pictures of the hotel building. Find none? Guess why. The location is in a pedestrian area and access is blocked, therefore I walked to the hotel to inquire about parking, as I had read about the hotel's own parking. At reception I was just given the advice to either park along the street or in a car park. No mention of any underground car park, as we could read in some other reviews. So we parked in the car park (15 € for 24 hours), dragged our luggage to the hotel and like before reception was empty. There was some bread and sausage standing on the counter, and my partner thought this was a nice gesture and took a piece of sausage. The receptionist came from somewhere behind and quite rudely lectured my partner that this is only for guests who take a drink. This spoiled the mood for us a bit, after all the hassle of arriving at this hotel. When booking, I had asked for a quiet room with a bath tub. We had a room on the 5th floor with just a shower. Bummer! There was no traffic noise, but the air conditioning in the bath was so loud that I could not sleep much. The 5th floor corridor had a terrible smell. My partner works in a hospital and thought it smelled like a morgue. I do not know whether the room we had is still in need of renovation or is already renovated, there was some poem written on the wall above the bed, though so maybe it is already finished. Anyhow, the room to me was shockingly ugly, It seemed like a prison cell to me, I really hated the room. This kind of room should deserve no star rating. Breakfast was OK; although it is served just until 9.30 (which seems early for a tourist), and many already empty plates greeted us on the buffet. One very busy lady very efficiently took care of the breakfast, we felt sorry for her that she had to take care of all guests and their wishes alone, and of course, you cannot expect a very fast service when there is only one person. All in all, we were glad to leave the hotel which was quite a letdown after the nice other hotels we had enjoyed during our vacation.

"Overnight stay "
patriciahanton, 20 Septembre 2016

Great hotel and would have liked to stay longer. Good underground car park and excellent location right in the centre. They welcomed our dog too. Only small niggle was that we were at the front And it was a bit noisy with deliveries early in the morning from 6 am. Suggest ask for room not at front. Great breakfast and they even cooked fried eggs to order. Highly recommended for business or pleasure

"Great location - surprise find in old quarter "
LindaK484, 28 Août 2016

We were looking for a stopover on way to Calais. Was expecting simple accommodation but exceeded our expectations. Only downside was no air conditioning - we went during heatwave! Staff v helpful and friendly. Location great for cathedral and cobbled streets.

"The Heart of Old City"
Greg H, 27 Août 2016

Very nice hotel, wonderful staff. Parking an adventure with a one car elevator down to the garage ! Easy walking distance to restaurants, the Cathedral, and the Art Museum. A little strange trying to access the Hotel due to the hydraulic barrier projecting up through the street to prevent automobile traffic. There is a speaker to ask for the barrier to be lowered so you can get to the Hotel.

"Uncomfortable nights sleep "
Antonia P, 22 Août 2016

A nice but very small lobby / bar (if you can call it that) disguises cramped hot rooms with no airconditioning, mouldy bathrooms and very squeaky doors that I thought must be waking other visitors every time we moved between rooms. Thank god we only had one night there as the only option was to leave the window open and listen to the sounds of the night revellers. On a positive it could not have been in a better location. There was some discrepancy over the bill but otherwise the staff were very polite and helpful. Would have been helpful to have driving instructions as we were unaware that they could lift a barrier and therefore get our car to the front door instead of dragging suitcases down the cobbled streets of Rouen. We choose not to sample the delights of breakfast on offer so are unable to pass opinion on that. Won't be in a rush to return. We have been to much better hotels in Rouen.

"Nice hotel, stay marred by some key problems"
ChampagneTravelLife, 18 Août 2016

We just spent 3 nights at this hotel. Pros: The hotel is clean and very attractive, the room was nice and the bed very comfortable. It is located in the heart of the city, close to many restaurants, shops, and key sites. Our top-floor room had a nice view of rooftops and the towers of the cathedral. For the most part, the front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. Cons: Our biggest problem was their baffling parking procedure. We were asked when we checked in if we would like to park our car in their reserved parking garage, for an additional nightly fee. We agreed that we would like it for all 3 nights. However, when we arrived at the hotel on the 2nd night, the parking was full and they could not accommodate us. We had to find street parking which was very hard to find on this holiday weekend, and very far from the hotel. The same thing happened on the 3rd night. They know how many spaces they have, so why let us reserve a space and then give it to someone else?!? Then when we checked out, they tried to charge us for all 3 nights! Other Cons: In order to accommodate the slanting roof, the shower was built with a slanting wall. This meant that when you stood in the shower, your shoulders banged both the cold wall and the glass partition. Very uncomfortable! They should have redesigned the bathroom with a stall shower instead of a tub, and maybe switched places with the sink. Although there was plenty of space under the TV for a chest of drawers, it was empty and left us no room to place our clothes. The closet had sufficient hanging space, but the high shelf above was half filled by the safe. There was a large glass door leading to the balcony, but all the adjoining rooms had the same access, so we couldn't leave the door/window open when we were away, and we weren't very comfortable leaving it open while we slept. This made the room extremely hot and stuffy, with no air conditioner. They did provide a small fan, which helped somewhat. Overall, we had a pretty good stay. Although it was hot, I would recommend requesting a top-floor room. Also, sometimes they offer special room rates on various hotel-booking websites, so be sure to check.

"Very central, Very nice"
Paul D, 16 Août 2016

A clean and very friendly hotel. The car parking is unique, being accessed by a car lift to an underground car park (very James Bond!). The hotel itself is right next to the Joan of arc Cathedral and memorial, in a pedestrian area. This makes arriving by car a little confusing. To gain access into the road that leads to the hotel (through an automatic barrier) press the intercom at the barrier and mention that you are staying in the hotel. The barrier should be lowered for you(It's a pillar set in the ground) .

"Nicely renovated "
es-travler, 07 Août 2016

This nicely renovated hotel was a bit hard to get to. It is situated in the back house on a closed of street. They have some parking in the court yard - I guess you need to call ahead to get access to it. Once there we enjoyed the closeness to the centre.

"Great hotel"
Gillian F, 23 Juillet 2016

A fab modernized hotel in the heart of Rouen. Their best feature is their staff who bent over backwards to help us by changing our initial room which was overlooking the entrance hall and thus very noisy, to a beautifully quiet Room and to helping us with choosing the best sightseeing excursions in the time we had to do them all. Our room was comfortable and spotlessly clean, the TV offered the BBC channel so we could happily watch tv before falling asleep. So many foreign counties offer flat screen TV's only in the language of origin which is a total waste for the foreigners! Their was complimentary tea and coffee which sounds normal but we have just come from Paris where it wasn't offered at our last hotel! There is a gym for enthusiastic patrons and the hotel is situated off a quiet street from the major tourist area. The major tourist area is a half a street away and all the attractions are within walking distance. The train station is 7 Euro away by taxi and the beautiful Seine river is 10 minutes walk away. Altogether a stunning hotel to stay in

"Been coming for ages - despite re-furb, going down hillI"
Tom B, 23 Juillet 2016

I suspect Best Western are privately owned hotels under a marketing banner. We've been coming here some time - it has just had a re-furb in the last couple of years, which we have now visited 3 times since. The location is fantastic. The rooms are better than they were but still lack air-con so are hot as hell in July (now) and have poor bathrooms with Pund Shop shower heads which point wherever they want and flop up and down as you change the flow. What really brassed me off was when we arrived for 2 nights - we were greeted with a small bottle of water (the tap water never gets cold and tastes tangy) and 2 sachets of freeze dried coffee - maybe 50p in total. When we came back on day 2 in the afternoon - the water had not been replenished, neither had the 2 sleeves of cheap as chips coffee. When we asked why, we were told they were a "gift" - so book 2 days by 1 day at a time - you'll still get a crappy pound shop shower and no air con but at least you'll get 2 sleeves of coffee and a small bottle of water as a gift. There are loads of hotels in Rouen - I think our fondness these last few years for Best Western Rouen is at and end.

"Lovely hotel, great position"
Andy and jac R, 23 Juillet 2016

Stayed overnight in this lovely hotel on our way back from the vendee to England. Excellent service, spotless rooms and a wonderful selection for the buffet breakfast with a very friendly and cheerful lady supervising everything. The hotel is really central which was great as we had such a limited time to visit this beautiful city. The hotel does provide parking but it is a bit tricky to get to the first time you visit so we parked in a nearby carpark and walked. However the reception staff spoke excellent English and described exactly how to get the car into the pedestrian zone where the hotel is situated. Would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to make the most of Rouen in a limited time.

"The place to be in Rouen"
FamilyOfThree027, 13 Juillet 2016

A perfect location in the centre of the Rouen. Just a few metres from the buzz of the Vieux Marché, where you're spoilt for choice with the restaurants. The hotel is quiet with pleasant, helpful staff. Rooms are small but the quirky decoration with its literary quotations is ample consolation. Breakfast was excellent...even sausages, mushrooms and scrambled eggs were on the menu. Quiet a rarity for France. There's plenty of choice if you prefer a continental breakfast. What a pity the wi-fi wasn't working. Rouen is a great city and this hotel is a great stopover.

"Great hotel in great location and dog friendly."
eeyorelover, 12 Juillet 2016

Lovely hotel right in the centre of Rouen, but set back so nice and quiet. Rooms are not large, but beautifully kept and decorated, and nice large shower in bathroom. Downstairs public rooms are very nice and reception staff very helpful and spoke very good English. Onsite parking at 11 euros a night is a bonus as is their dog friendly policy. Would highly recommend

"Really clean rooms"
jess s, 27 Juin 2016

The location of this hotel is second to none. Right in the heart of rouen. Nice clean food. Beer a tad expensive but apart from that would go back. Lots of things to see and hundreds of restaurants within a 500m radius

"well situated hotel so close to town centre"
islandgirl436, 19 Juin 2016

We stayed for four nights at the Hotel Litteraire Gustave Flaubert in Rouen as part of a tour of Normandy using Rouen as our base. Excellent Breakfast although somewhat of a bun fight if you are part of a big group, or more than one group is having Breakfast at the same time. Room was comfortable, very quiet, overlooking a little courtyard and so close to the town centre where there is a huge choice of restaurants. Very attractive town centre. Nice to have a kettle and teas/coffee's in the room too much appreciated.

"in the heart of the city"
J2030CNmichaelr, 01 Juin 2016

Smart and comfortable hotel, in excellent location. the room was comfortable, if not particularly large. It and all public areas were newly decorated and attractive. There was a good choice for a 'continental' breakfast, including some hot food. The quality was very good. We found the staff helpfulf.

"Excellent location with good service and very comfortable room."
Gilbert M, 30 Mai 2016

Well located only a few metres away from the Joan of Arc square with excellent secure parking, once you have the clear instructions of how to access the hotel through the pedestrian zone. Recently refurbished in tasteful way with strong Flaubert theme throughout. Very comfortable bed with lovely clean, soft linen and towels in quite spacious room with speedy lift access. Some early morning noise from delivery driver in courtyard below, but otherwise very quiet for such a central position. Tea making facilities were very welcome. Very helpful and friendly staff at reception made the whole experience enjoyable and satisfying and good value. Will definitely stay again.

"Great location; clean & cozy"
austinite58, 12 Mai 2016

4 star. Great location near Place du Vieux Marché in private court yard off busy pedestrian street. Small, well-appointed, quiet room. Underground private parking on-site 11€/day. P.D. 15€, excellent selection & good service. Helpful staff. Tastefully decorated throughout--classy.

"A few rough spots, Disappointed with response to issues"
RTP54, 12 Mai 2016

the location once we were parked as great- easy to walk to all of the sights. In a very beautiful old part of the city. There were however a couple of issues with the hotel. We got stuck in the lift. We rang the emergency buzzer and help came to get us out in about 45 minutes. The front desk staff seemed totally unconcerned with this and offered no compensation ( nor did we ask to be fair). as it ends up this was a problematic elevator that the subsequently labeled broken. 45 minutes is a long time. Second we had some plumbing issues in our room. The sink did not drain and was frankly a bit disgusting. The front desk staff did there best to fix it while we were out to dinner, and go to it to drain minimally, but still gross. They reported that a plumber would be called the repair it the next day. Yes the NEXT DAY. They offered us a free breakfast.

"Average hotel in excellent location"
Robyn T, 10 Mai 2016

Getting to this hotel is a little tricky as you have to first park your car in nearby streets ,then walk to the hotel to check in. They will advise you of a laneway approach which is barred by a metal post which lowers once you press a button on the intercom next to the post and identify yourself as a hotel guest We received a nice welcome from friendly staff in a modern lobby but things went downhill from there. The room was small, hot ( no airconditioning ) no fridge, toilet was stained, soap fitting broken, no cupboard drawers for clothimg, no toiletries and the bathroom exhaust window was cracked and needed painting. The room overlooked the central courtyard and had a window that opened but the noise from a nearby exhaust/airconditioner was loud and uncomfortable. Definitely not a 4 star hotel. However the hotel location was brilliant with just a short stroll to the old city centre and many restaurants.

"Location is the best thing about this hotel"
Eugene S, 26 Avril 2016

Located right on the famous Place du Vieux Marché, this is fairly comfortable hotel. A bit old but rooms are cozy, although quite small. There is an underground parking. You will need to buzz the police at the entry bollards and then proceed to the hotel. We asked to rent an umbrella and it costs 20 euro deposit. If your windows will face the inner yard, where central entrance is located, then be prepared for a noisy ventillation system from restaurants disturbing your sleep. You can hear them even with windows closed. Otherwise hotel is good value for money, especially for a short stay.

"Great central location"
Richard S, 19 Avril 2016

A quiet hotel in the centre of town. Rooms a little small for a 4 star , I rate it 3 star. No drawers so had to live out of the suitcases!. Impressive breakfast cold and hot with friendly staff.. One of our tour got stuck in the lift and missed our excursion coach so the hotel paid for a taxi to meet us 400 euros! Many good restaurants close by but many shut on Sundays.

When I checked the mattress I saw that it was stained in several places. I asked for another mattress. The hotel said there was a mattress cover, covering the mattress so this is OK. I differ, a mattress cover is to prevent stains, not cover them up! I insisted on another room which after some argument she did. This mattress was stained and a third was even worse than the other two. I left, but wrote to Best Western giving them the time and person I talked to (as well as the manager). They confirmed that Best Western feels that a mattress cover over stains is acceptable. We ended up in a lesser hotel at half the room rate, but the mattress was clean.

"Great to get your head down!"
JOHN R, 22 Mars 2016

The hotel is very clinical in appearance but the staff are friendly and efficient. There is not a restaurant but within 100yds there are lots and of a good variety and quality. The central position is good, the rooms are fine but not great. The breakfast is very good and well worth the money.

"Lovely hotel"
Stewart C, 18 Mars 2016

After a long drive from the UK we were looking forward to getting to our hotel. We had put the address of the hotel into our sat nav but when we got the we found that the particular road the hotel is in has been split into two parts- one part the road for vehicles and one part pedestrianised. It was only when one member of the family got out of the car and went to the reception did we find out that if we put a different road name in, and pressed a buzzer at a bollard, then that bollard would go down and let us drive into the hotel premises. One tip I would give the hotel is to give the name of the road that the bollarded entrance is on so that people can put it into their sat navs. The hotel itself is beautiful and the rooms and service are an absolute treat. Nothing is too difficult for the staff. After a great nights sleep we went down to breakfast which consisted of both continental and "English". Being partial to both I had the continental which was abundant and lovely. I then had scrambled eggs and sausages. However, the food was warm but not hot. We were the first guests down as we had an early start. The hotel could do with keeping the hot food hot. Apart from these minor quibbles it was a lovely stay and I would definitely stay in this hotel again when in Rouen.

"Terrible online experience BEWARE! Best Western said it could be a scam"
mary m, 25 Février 2016

I had a horrible experience with this hotel. Booked online, somehow, online reservation date changed ( as did the name of the hotel and address numerous times in follow E-mails). I missed it in the confirmation, never thinking the date I chose to book would be changed. It was for a date I wasn't even IN the country. Way before my trip.It passed and when I contacted the hotel, they were rude and not helpful. After numerous E-mails about the confusion, they would not refund or even honor the reservation for my actual date. They blamed me. Even after I asked to work with them on a fair resolution, they refused and said I could book again at my expense. I called Best Western who said there was NO Best Western hotel under the name of the reservation. They checked for a name change , found nothing. They warned me to report it to my credit card company as it sounded like a scam. They were going to do an investigation of their own. They has no desire to resolve this situation, only take my money. Careful booking with this hotel They have 2 names ( which they say they changed- and different addresses).

"Difficult to find but ideally located to visit Rouen's historical sites."
OdysseusSanFelice, 05 Février 2016

We chose this hotel as a starting point for our tour of Normandy. It is located in the medieval centre of the city near the place du Vieux Marché where Joan of Arc met her end (a huge cross has been erected to honour her memory). All historical attractions are at walking distance and there are several good restaurants to choose from. A parking place in the hotel yard, should be booked in advance, Don't miss the "Son et Lumière" show taking place every summer in front of Rouen's cathedral. ! t

"The Best (Central not Western) location, but"
A_Huntley_Jacobs, 28 Janvier 2016

This was the second year we stopped over for a night in Rouen on the journey from England to the Bordeaux region. The location of this hotel revealed a part of Rouen we never saw the previous year and for that reason our stay at the Best Western was more than worthwhile. The hotel is fairly difficult to find and as hardened travellers used to finding our way driving in strange cities, other reviewers' comments are more than understandable. If you are travelling by car and arrive at the bollard preventing you entering the pedestrian area, the best solution is to send someone up the blocked street about 50metres and look for the small entrance to the hotel on the right hand side. This is a small recessed door and not the main entrance. Parking in the courtyard in front of the hotel is very limited and filled up quickly as the afternoon progressed. We got the impression that this was the case daily and for travellers arriving early evening, you will probably need to park in the fairly expensive public car park about 5-7 minutes walk away. The hotel reception staff were very pleasant and helpful despite the disruption of the lobby refurbishment being in full flow. We had a room yet to be refurbished and the décor and fittings were very tired. Even refurbished the rooms are small and we had our large family dog with us which lead to a cramped night. We stayed at the end of August during a heat wave and the lack of air conditioning meant the room was stifling at night even with the window open. The old town, its many restaurants and fabulous architecture is just steps away and for this reason the hotel is in the perfect location. If we were to stay again I would book the larger superior room and hope the refurbishment included air conditioning.

"Nice"
Mark C, 22 Décembre 2015

Rooms ok, cosy if a little small. But they were comfortable with a good balcony view. Staff were very good. Friendly and helpful. Location superb being in the centre of the historical area, only a view metres from lots of small restaurants and bars. Onsite parking is a plus.

"Great Location"
Patty L, 21 Décembre 2015

We visited this hotel in November 2015 and absolutely loved it. The rooms were very clean and spacious. The location was in the middle of downtown, so it we had a two minute walk to restaurants and attractions. The breakfast was simple, yet filling.

"Best Breakfast"
safetyben, 15 Décembre 2015

Rooms are going to refurbished now. Looks much more nice. Front desk staff is friendly and helpful. The breakfast is very good. Great choice and high quality, well prepared and you are welcome with a smile every morning. Parking situation can be difficult. Sometimes you need to go to near but expensive public parking place.

"Good place to be!"
pat c, 10 Novembre 2015

We stayed here for the weekend. This is situated really well to get around Rouen and see the sites. The hotel staff are excellent and the rooms are clean and current. It is very modern and minimalist which misses a trick bearing in mind all of the history around.

"New meets old"
MikeJL59, 22 Septembre 2015

This is a very modern facility in a very old setting. The approach is a bit tricky as it is within the pedestrianised part of the city and there are barring traffic bollards that have to be lowered for this to happen. The solution should have been to press the button to gain access but repeated presses got no response. Fortunately I had someone with me who walked the few hundred yards to the hotel and on second attempt it was solved. I think this is something the hotel could do something about for booked guests e.g. issue a code? The hotel has a forecourt set back off the pedestrianised area where about 8 cars can park; others can use an adjacent garage. The reception was good but we unfortunately arrived behind a large tour party who were dealt with efficiently but then there was a struggle to get on the two small lifts which are now in a bit of a building site...strange is such a new hotel. The receptionist was very helpful and gave a great recommendation for evening entertainment at the cathedral. The room was a bit on the cramped size. No bedside locker on one side. The bed was comfortable and storage was adequate. A small balcony was interesting but not very useful. The en-suite had a bath with shower over and was fine. The soap/shampoo was from a wall dispenser in a compromise position for either the shower or the bath. Breakfast was a little underwhelming. No muesli. The hot food had been scavenged by the touring group and had not been refilled. The whole place was a bit of mess after that group had finished. Overall a good enough place

"Stay away from this place"
mikekiz, 11 Septembre 2015

Unfortunately, this hotel was incapable of honouring a confirmed reservation made weeks earlier and reconfirmed two days prior to our arrival. The given address of the hotel on rue de la Pie in Rouen is inaccurate. It was only on arrival in Rouen that we were told that there was no room for us, ostensibly because of renovations. This is an awful way to run a system based on welcoming clients. NEVER AGAIN.

"the best is the location"
Uwe R, 31 Août 2015

It was hard to find the hotel. The was no sign of the hotel from the street. You need to enter from the back into the courtyard passing the vieux market. It is far from being obvious. The hotel is located directly in the old town, you can reach sights and restaurants by foot. The hotel is old and on the way to be renovated. The recption and lobby looked like a construction area and it was not smelling good. The rooms are small but clean. The WLAN is useless.

"Super Location - right in the centre of Rouen"
kmr100, 31 Août 2015

W stayed for one night as a stop over. The hotel is right in the centre of Rouen so location is perfect. It is being renovated so when the work has been completed it will be super. We were not disturbed by any of the work. Room was very comfortable. Very quiet. Breakfast was delicious with a super selection. Finding the hotel was a little difficult as you have to drive through a barrier which the local police have to open and you then drive across a paved area for pedestrians. The hotel has some parking spaces for which there is a charge. If you plan to eat out in the busy season go early to find a restaurant. We struggled to get a table on a lovely summer's evening until quite late as the town was packed (Friday evening). Staff were very friendly.

"excellent location and parking"
casteau m, 13 Août 2015

small room, correctly furnished excellent location with very large number of restaurants in the surrounding ideal location to visit the old town very convenient secured parking with direct connection to the rooms very quiet rooms out of the noise

"Disappointing"
Michael S, 11 Août 2015

Stayed at this hotel for four nights. On arrival we were very disappointed it looked like a building site with work going on, walked in through bags of cement, dust, tools, wire etc which remained there for the four nights we stayed, understand this work could be on-going for another two weeks. There is no bar or lounge area, Breakfast is a standard continental one. As the hotel is in the Best Western chain the hotel we expected better than this! Our room was on the small side, very hot and painted in a depressing dark colour with poor lighting, no air con or fan supplied and overlooking the courtyard there was no air coming in the windows, there were no drawers in the room and no extractor fan in the bathroom, Having said that the bed was comfortable, clean and with everything you required. The plus side for us was that the location was good being in the centre of Rouen near some good restaurants but would not stay again. Might be better when the work is finished but the rooms need to be painted lighter and fans put in.

"Location, location, location"
KDI2013, 03 Août 2015

Yes, it was right around the corner from the old part of Rouen, the restaurants, the shopping, the cathedral. But, oh my goodness, they are redoing their lobby and I'm sure it will look great, but walking through anytime of the day except early am or evening hours was like walking through a construction site - Gimme my hardhat please! The noise, the wires, the materials, the drills, hammering, the dust, the workers, etc. you could hear it upstairs in the rooms too! Luckily we were out most of the day! One upside is that we had a larger room (asked for a queen and single= big room) and I believe it had a small refrig. But ask when you book. And as others have noted NO air conditioning at all, but it did cool off at night (this is Normandy after all) It is quiet at night, and since it is in a courtyard off the street, anywhere would be quiet, but oh my goodness, the noise and mess during the day! Stay somewhere else this summer/fall.

"Fantastic location"
Simona D, 27 Juillet 2015

My husband and I with 2 children were staying in Rouen for one night on route from our holidays. The receptionist was very welcoming and helpful, spoke good English. The two rooms were inter- connecting, clean and quite spacious with a balcony in each one. The weather was cool but if it would have been a hot summers day I can imagine it would be extremely hot as it was under the roof on the 5th floor without air-conditioning! The hotel is under renovation, and I am sure when finished it will be more up to date. Breakfast was very generous with wide choice and lovely lady serving us.

"Will be fine when building work is done"
CarriejaneSmith, 23 Juillet 2015

Booked this hotel through Booking.com and booked a family room for a famiy of 3. At no point during the booking process did they mention the building works. We arrived at "reception" to find nothing but a building site. I mean literally walking across wires and 20 builders with drills to the desk. Our aim for this hotel was a stop off point while driving through France to rest after a long drive, go out for dinner then sleep and leave in the morning. Well check in was fine - they "upgraded" us to 2 adjoining rooms which was nice although if I had had to pay the room rate advertised in the rooms I would have demanded a refund. We tried to have a nap but even though we were on the top (5th) floor, the sound of drilling was so loud that not even earplugs would block it out. The drilling was constant and stopped around 6pm so we could not rest in the rooms at all. There was no mention of it and no apology from the reception desk. The good thing about this hotel is that is right on the square so it's a 1 minute walk to the restaurants etc. Forget having breakfast or a drink at the bar in this hotel, everything is covered in dust and the noise is unbearable. Of the 2 rooms we had, one had a shower only and the other a bath and shower. There was a bottle of water in each room and a Nespresso coffee maker although only one of the rooms had the espresso pods (2). One of the rooms had a fan, there was no air con. There was a small balcony with room for a couple of metal chairs and a small table but you had to climb out the window to get to it and it would be unsafe for small children. The beds were fine and the room clean. There were no drawers which didn't bother us because we were only staying one night. The rooms were very dark and if you had to do hair or make up it would have been very difficult. They were decorated in dark brown paint which made them seem smaller - odd choice of colour for a hotel. The rooms smelled of smoke even though they were non smoking and both had smoke detectors in the room. I think people smoked out the window and it blew back in. I'm sure this hotel will be fine once the building works have stopped but please check before you book if you need the room during the day.

"Rouen hotel"
tvlagnt1, 16 Juin 2015

Great location. Walking distance to all Rouen sights. Located right in the center of the old city. However access to hotel is difficult. Gated pedestrian area to get to hotel. Must get police to open gate to get into the pedestrian area and drive to the hotel. We rode around for 40 minutes trying to get to the hotel.

"GREAT LOCATION/UNEVEN SERVICE"
Susan H, 11 Juin 2015

Booked this hotel directly through Best Western. Location was great in the old town. Easy walk to all the sights. Room was clean and well-annointed. Access to internet and electric teapot made for an enjoyable experience. The male clerk in the morning could not be more gracious and helpful. The female clerk in the afternoon was less than helpful and borderline rude. She was more interested in answering her cell phone than answering or offering any assistance to the guests.

"Great Price, Great Location"
Alban H, 09 Avril 2015

I stayed there for Easter weekend 2015. One minute walk to Old Market Square (Where Joan of Arc was burned). Everything within walking distance (including Hyper U Express) Parking on site. Staff was very attentive. Highly recommend!

"Distinctly average - just"
John E, 27 Décembre 2014

Firstly I have to say that we used our 'reward points' under Best Western's loyalty scheme. The hotel is in a great location in the centre of Rouen. It's quiet as it's in the pedestrian area (although it does have a garage). We had a 'superior' room which was small, dark and only had one bedside table. Don't bother sitting out on the balcony as two people can hardly fit on it. The hotel could do so much better - starting with the entrance If we had to pay for the room then we wouldn't stay at this hotel again.

"Excellent location"
HappyFamilies_12, 26 Août 2014

This lovely Best Western hotel is of the usual standard that you would expect from one of this chain. The staff were polite, frirndly and professional and the rooms were excellent quality. The thing that makes this hotel really special is it's location next to the Place du Vieux Marche. All the sites are within a short walking distance and you have private parking as well. The family room we booked was 2 double rooms with a common entrance hall.

"A Central Gem"
Mark L, 18 Août 2014

This hotel is situated right in the centre of Rouen and is perfect for a city break. There are so many restaurants around that the fact it does not have an evening restaurant is not a problem. Clean and very comfortable, I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Rouen. It is a gem.

"Great Location"
Tom B, 11 Août 2014

This hotel is superbly located right in the heart of the old part of Rouen. It is a stone throw from all the places you would want to be. The hotel is as you would expect from Best Western although the rooms were on the small side we only used the hotel to sleep and for breakfast. We were on hiliday and would return again. Watch for the additional carpark charges they can catch you out as they are a lot.

"Good hotel in Place de Vieux Marche"
karmill52, 15 Mai 2014

although under renovations, our room was very nice, one of the newly completed ones. Well situated right in the Old Market area, in the middle of everything. Quiet at night, breakfast was good for a buffet, and staff was quite accomodating. Parking in the underground garage was an experience, and it was entertaining watching other guests try to figure out the vehicle elevator!

"Pleasant stay in Rouen"
SimLux, 19 Août 2013

The hotel is very well placed. The rooms were clean and the staff were helpful. We were able to use the hotel parking which was also useful. Rouen was a very nice city and the stay at the hotel did not detract our experience.
