Beamish Hall Hotel - a disgrace. This is the worst example I have ever encountered of financial gain & sheer greed over customer service & satisfaction. We attempted to use a voucher given to me by my son for Xmas 2022. Overnight stay, bottle of bubbly on arrival, evening meal & breakfast - not cheap! We were unfortunately unable to utilise the voucher throughout 2023 due to getting married, ill health, new jobs, a hospital admission - it really was an exceptionally stressful year for us. We competely understand that vouchers come with a start / end date but thought the hotel would honour the ONE night given the cost I know my son paid and the fact that it was only 2 months past the expired date... NOPE! Absolutely not budging at all?!! They stuck rigidly to 'protocol' despite dealing with people who have lives that don't always fit nicely within expiry dates. I'm not sure what the huge financial implications to the hotel are or honouring a slightly extended gift voucher (I suspect absolutley none) but surely they could have offered a part refund, or for us to cover any cost to them as a subsidy or offer an evening meal or... something?? No - nada. They'd rather just keep someones hard-earned cash and write off any potential return visits. Absolute disgrace. This is the worst case of customer care I have ever encountered in an industry based entirely on serving people & hospitality..?! Please don't waste your hard earned cash at this establishment - they're making enough on vouchers that require no input from them at all. Let's stand by for Matthew the General Manager's response - he likes to wash his hands of any wrong doing seemingly each time he reads a negative review on here about the hotel. Those responses are worth a read if you wish to get an insight into the ethos of management at Beamish Hall..

Beautiful building as a wedding venue and hotel. Main facilities were great and staff very helpful and friendly. Our room had everything we needed and more, was clean and tidy and very comfy. The food for the wedding was first class and our breakfast the morning after was also great, loads of choice hot and cold.

We had a lovely stay booked on a Black Friday stay. Food was good room was spacious and had wine and Chocs included. We had a nice walk around the grounds after dinner. Breakfast was also good with a cooked choice from the menu and continental to help yourself too. Only let down was to booking process, the lady on the phone really couldn't be bothered to help us, it was almost an inconvenience to her that we wanted to use our voucher. I also bought an afternoon tea voucher for a family member who has since had a difficult experience when trying to book this. In my opinion the 1st impression should always be a good one.

Recently stayed at Beamish Hotel. The Room overlooking the Gardens was huge and opulent. Jacuzzi, walk in shower, comfortable bed and pillows. All Staff we encountered were professional and a credit to The Hotel. The Stables Menu was excellent, so much choice, even for vegetarians and allergies, nothing to much trouble. Top marks to The Chef. Will defiantly return.

A very well run establishment with professional and friendly staff. The grounds around the hotel are very nice and the hotel building is impressive. Our room 205 was a decent size, clean and fresh. The period furniture in the room gave it a homely feel and the carved wooden double bed provided a good nights sleep. The bath has a rain shower / jacuzzi option and the water pressure is great at providing a strong flow of water with easy to use hand turning knobs. The Stables restaurant provides a lovely setting to relax and enjoy a fine dining experience. All the meals we had were delicious. We would highly recommend this hotel to our family and friends.

Stayed 1 night on a date night package. The room had everything we needed, and we had a comfortable night. A couple of small signs of wear and tear but nothing to detract from our overall enjoyment. All the staff were very friendly and attentive. Food was delicious and plentiful, both evening and breakfast. Not our first time here and won't be our last.

A very last minute stay due to being gifted the stay from family who could no longer attend. The package we got was a 1 night stay with a Sunday roast and breakfast the following morning included. We arrived just after 6pm and were greeted by a lovely lady at reception. Check in was quick and easy. Prior to arriving I rang to let them know we would be running late and may miss our dinner reservation. They accommodated us perfectly. Moved us to a late sitting and gave us time to settle in. I let the lady behind the desk know that we would not be here for breakfast due to work commitments so to cancel any reservation we had for that. She kindly arranged for us to collect a goodie bag before breakfast started to take with us for our journey to work. Restaurant was beautiful and the food was Devine. Our meal included a glass of wine which again we didn't opt for. The waitress kindly wiped our drinks bill since we did not want the complementary wine. We paid extra for a dessert each which was lovely. Ended up only paying around £20 during our stay. Absolutely beautiful place, massive rooms, gorgeous restaurant and very friendly staff. Would 10000% recommend and will definitely be staying again.

Dining room menu had 4 starters and 4 main courses. On the night we stayed 2 starters and 2 main courses were not available which meant our first choice starter and main were not to be had. My wife had mushroom risotto - made with patna rice? and I had deep fried camembert which had been in the fryer for 2 minutes more than they needed and were overly crunchie!! Bit disappointed. Nice hotel and beautiful grounds !

Fantastic service from start to finish. Suite was beautifully clean as was the hotel. Exceptional staff … friendly and helpful. Restaurant food was superb..truly wonderful stay. Thank you everyone at Beamish Hall Hotel.

Effortless Check in. Friendly efficient service. Room clean, bed and shower a bit small but everything works well. Could hear snoring from next room. Breakfast was really nice, service and presentation great. The Hotel is a lovely old building in extensive grounds and has a peaceful countryside feel.

After a long drive including snow, rain and hold ups. A mix up with our booking on our side and forgotten phone charges. It was all sorted on arrival thanks to a very helpful Susan. With phones charged and a long hot bath all was well again. This place is in a great location and a lovely setting. Everyone was very polite, friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend this place.

All in all a very impressive location and venue. Very comfortable, very good service. Food very good and all excellent value. Will stay again and recommend for those who value quality and value. Staff were welcoming and helpful.

We have bought short stays here, as gifts for friends and family, many times so decided to try a short treat for a birthday. Booking was very off-putting. When I called for clarification of prices from the web site I felt like an idiot for asking. When we wanted family to join for a meal we became an opportunity. Reception was very stand offish pre-arrival. Being required to pay, in full, in advance with no cancellation permitted seems harsh and unwelcoming. Treated as an income opportunity rather than guest. On arrival it all changes, the staff are truly fantastic, warm, welcoming, happy to look after guests who are treated as guests as opposed to customers. Did not meet a single member of the team who fell short on this. We had some disappointment with the room. Not at all spacious but the real problem was noise from other rooms. The rooms in our area of the building appear to have very poor sound insulation indeed. Ordinary conversation, and tv sounds, came through clearly. This was not drunken wedding guests, we barely noticed them, this was ordinary conversation. We did receive a reduction, we asked for that, but did not get the sleep we wanted. Food is excellent with a good choice and fair prices, the bar offers a good range of drinks, including actual beers, imagine that when everywhere seems to offer the same limited range of poor beer and standard lagers. It is a pity that guests need to go outdoors to access this. The building is fabulous, grounds are fantastic.

Our double room at the back of the hotel was tiny (room 201) all of the over sized mahogany furniture made it seem even smaller. We had a massive 3 door wardrobe!!! It Should have been sold as a single. Most of the sockets in the room were round & wouldn't take a 3 pin plug so when the kettle was on we had one UK socket for 2 of us to use. The cooked Breakfast was cold, poached eggs were under cooked & slimy. We did tell the waitress but nothing was done. The Wi-Fi was none existent. Our friends had stayed here previously and recommended it. To say we were disappointed was an under statement. I would not recommend this hotel & will not go back.

My wife and I have just returned from a one night stay as a Christmas present from our daughter..100% relaxing and great value..the staff are fantastic..friendly and always smiling and ready to help..our deluxe room was big bright and spotlessly clean...very comfortable bed and shower room with a great hot shower..toiletries supplied...we had both dinner and breakfast in the stables restaurant..the food was 1st class and cooked to perfection...the young girls were really friendly yet professional and a credit to beamish hall..not much else to report except we will return soon to have another beamish experience..well done everyone..

Took advantage of the Sunday Lunch stay. Brought Mother along for the lunch as a birthday treat (89). Best compliment she finished her lunch and really enjoyed it. My wife and I stayed in an Olympic size room, very quiet, good bed. Next morning had a really good breakfast. Nothing but compliments for this hotel.

Beautiful hotel! However, after our meal we had a cocktail in the Stables after enjoying that we were asked if we would like anything else at 10pm … we felt very rushed and were told that if we we wanted another drink we would have to speak to reception. The bar is apparently open until 24:00. Not a true reflection on the website info.

We have just had our second stay here and wonder if we have had the same hotel as some of the other reviews.The bedroom was huge with an excellent bathroom and outlook .All the staff were very pleasant and attentive especially Julie on RECEPTION!! The food was super at both Breakfast and Dinner.Just one little gripe.More veggies at Dinner please.Thank you everyone for a lovely 3 days.Will will be back

Fabulous rooms and service... Fabulous location - Friendly staff... A step back into elegant style... But modern facilities... The rooms and grounds are maintained to a high standard... I would definitely stay there again...

We booked the 'date night' package - was great value for money. Great food, nice room, great service - no complaints! The hotel is beautiful and the ambience is great. couldn't fault our stay. We will definitely be back!

The location is great and the room was fine .Some of the staff were rather brusque, especially in the Stables restaurant and at breakfast we felt rushed , the hot food slammed down on the table while we were just starting on the fruit juice etc .

No gimmicks, pools, spa etc but an experience of rural county Durham steeped in history, some fantastic rooms and a restaurant to rival the best, set in the old stables. If you like a good beer there is a very good selection. perfect stay for Beamish open air museum which has been the set for many TV dramas.

We attended a 2 day wedding celebration. Wedding service was amazing. However, not enough staff, even though they knew there was a wedding on. The wait for food (breakfast & restaurant) was very disappointing.

Stayed for 2 nights during my sisters wedding which was an amazing day but sadly brought down by the rude reception staff. Both women on reception were very miserable, not only to wedding guests but hair stylists, make up artists and other guests staying at the hotel. They were heard bitching about guests which is totally unacceptable considering how much people pay to stay and get married there! To top it off, my bag was left with reception during the wedding ceremony and once I collected it I discovered our room key had been removed from my bag!! A staff member had gone into my belongings and removed the room key to the room I was staying in for a 2nd night! Highly recommend management to train their reception staff on basic customer service! On a brighter note, breakfast didn't disappoint. In summary my experience with this hotel wasn't anything special considering it's so called reputation. Wouldn't recommend visiting.

On arrival at the hotel parts of it were flooded due to some biblical weather however our room was unaffected bar having to go the long way round the Stables Bar. All staff seemed to be pleasant while dealing with the mess created by the flash flooding. The room. The tea/coffee making kit was in the wardrobe, the wardrobe with no handles, and there was no air con to try and cool the place down a little. The windows opened a few inches to help though. Getting changed and there was a knock on the room door, a bit odd but I'll answer it... too late, he's opened the door and he's coming in! I shouted for him to wait so he stopped short of fully entering the room and introduced himself to my wife as hotel staff, checking the rooms were ok after the bad weather. I still can't believe he thought it was ok to just come into the room like that, very bizarre. The Stables Bar & Restaurant is nice inside, all the staff were lovely. There doesn't seem to be a traditional hotel bar area though, just some armchairs (which were comfortable mind you) in the entrance way and around the bar. Often people would be looking for somewhere to sit. The Sunday Lunch was nice, but my order was wrong, I asked for no peas or swede but it came with them anyway. That's an argument so tiresome that I didn't bother and just left them. A bit pricey but the food was nice. Time for bed. That bed. It was horrendous. My wife and I were rolling into the middle all night long on that mattress, and the bed creaked so loudly with every slight movement you wouldn't believe it unless I showed you the video we took! The temperature just topped it off as it was so hot, we had the fan on and windows open but it was boiling nonetheless. Awful night's sleep. Breakfast was fine, I quite enjoyed it. I'd recommend getting down early though as while we were there they were running out of things with a while to go before breakfast ends.

It was my wedding earlier this month and I must start by stating it was a brilliant day apart from the odd issue. Firstly I'd like to thank the wedding coordinators that helped make the day go as smoothly as possible and the waiting/bar staff that done an absolute incredible job all day remaining professional with great manners and friendliness but always keeping efficiency and organisation a priority. Also, a big thank you to the management staff. They saved the day by going out of their way to purchase rose petals for the confetti photograph, after a miscommunication with my florist resulted in us having no confetti on the day. The venue was clean and the food was beautiful. We couldn't have asked for a better day when it come to the weather also as it showed off the beautiful beamish gardens. However, the day was overshadowed by a handful of incidents which involved two reception staff. The reception staff were rude, miserable, abrupt, unhelpful and the list could go on. Unfortunately, this behaviour was not only witnessed by us but also our guests throughout our wedding day/evening. -My hairdresser was greeted by a receptionist who had no time for her and was unhelpful when directing her to where the bride was. -Guests checking in on the wedding day again were greeted with an unpleasant receptionist who abruptly gave directions to their room and slammed key on the counter. -My bridesmaids left their bags with reception during the ceremony and my sister (maid of honors) bag was searched and the room key removed without consent. -Another bridesmaid spoke to reception through the phone while we were getting ready and she was rude unhelpful and aggressive on the phone. -A guest approached me at the end of the wedding to tell me both receptionists during a point in the afternoon/evening we're overheard gossiping about the wedding party. It's probably worth mentioning that these comments came from 6 different individuals so it was not just a one off. If I could give any advice it would be that the reception staff need to improve their customer service. It costs nothing to be helpful, happy and polite when people pay a lot of money to stay.

What a shame we weren't shown to our room, just pointed to where the lift was. the room was very large, the bed was extremely comfortable, one bedside cabinet had a broken door so was unusable. The bath was fabulous. The grounds and the overall look of the hotel is wonderful, but the much hyped up Stables Restaurant left a lot to be desired, we had booked for 3 nights and 3 dinners, no reservation sign on a table to indicate that we had booked, so every night we were on a different table. Food was poor, very dry over cooked chicken, no beef one night, no prawns on 2 nights, no salmon for breakfast one morning. I couldn't quite come to terms with the fact that we had to get all our breakfast items ourselves, just like a Premier Inn, luckily we found a tray so we only made one trip to the buffet room, but other poor souls were backwards and forwards at least 4/5 times. NO SERVICE. How can you run a restaurant that runs out if food? one night I was asked to move out of the way as a large party were coming in!!!. The fire alarm going off at 1.30pm one morning was the straw that finally broke this clients back. When I asked the receptionist what triggered the alarm, she laughed and said some had sprayed deodorant on the fire head. I didn't think it was funny, it was a very frightening event. Overall we were very disappointed in this so called 5 star hotel.

This is our third visit to Beamish Hall Hotel, we had a Premier room that was huge with beautiful furniture. Some areas of the room are a little tired (window frames need painting) and a saggy mattress but for the money it was better than expected. What did let this stay down was the food in The Stables Restaurant. The portions are far to large, I have a good appetite but the amount of food piled onto the plates was off putting. Other diners left part of their food as we did, what a waste! A rethink is needed on portions. I ordered a Nut Roast for Sunday lunch. Clearly the chef had no idea about how to make this, what arrived was a slab of 'stuffing' with hazelnuts pushed into the top! We ate a a pub near to Ushaw, an excellent experience serving local dishes and manageable portion sizes. Cheaper than The Stables as well. Breakfast was OK, a good choice of food but not great quality. The yoghurts and bread need to be replaced. We will return but find somewhere else to eat.

I was going to my friends wedding and I was solo. Hotel made me feel very welcome and comfortable being on my own. First time stayed in a hotel on my own and felt very safe and secure in my room. I stayed in the Lily (little treat for myself)

Disappointing service for Sunday lunch today. Waited 20 minutes for a waitress to ask us for our drinks order. Food order took another 15 minutes to be taken. Food arrived after a 40 minute wait but it was cold. Sent it back and had to wait again. It eventually arrived still luke warm, much smaller portion and with stuffing missing this time.

We stayed with our friends who have young children, we had a 2 bed apartment and it exceeded our expectations, plenty of space, access via lift at the back of the hotel. Quiet, lovely grounds, easy access to the museum, discounted entry to Beamish

Stayed here for a night for our anniversary. One night (Wednesday) bed breakfast and evening meal (3 courses). The hotel itself and the grounds are just stunning. The room was lovely and clean although it was a bit damp in the corner as if the cleaner had had to clean something unsavoury up. However it didn't smell so didn't bother us. The shower was terrible. One of the worst I've ever experienced. I also left my toiletry back and enquired for it later to be told it hadn't been handed in! The stables bar is great although a bit pricey. The 3 course meal on the evening was terrific. They also allowed us a little time between courses too (we very rarely eat 3 courses!). We also took our desert in the courtyard (which does allow smokers). It was raining hard but the covers are massive and there are heaters so it didn't feel cold. We also found a hidden Gem. If you leave the grounds through the main entrance and turn left, follow the road and turn right at the next junction eventually you will see the Black Horse at Beamish. Just a lovely pub with the added bonus of the classic car showroom (and sales!) Car Barn on site too. Well worth the £159 we paid and we'd stay again.

No hot water!! Premium bedroom was incredibly drab. Even the dogs and ladies in the paintings were flaking/looked depressed!! Room 103 is in desperate need of a total refurbishment. Mattress poor quality. Lift problems too! Many steps taken to retrieve hot and cold drinks and continental breakfast. Hot water not hot hot. Lukewarm tea... The hot breakfast was served to the table and was nice-ish. Such a non-treat of a stay for my Mum's birthday. Get your act together, Beamish Hall Hotel! When I reported my issues there was no reaction/not bothered about cold shower and cold bath etc! Would not return.

My step daughter has just held her wedding at Beamish Hall. She could not have chosen a more beautiful and perfect venue for such a special occasion. The building has a lot of history, and character and is set amongst beautiful gardens which create a very peaceful and relaxing space. The staff were so helpful and worked so hard to create a day which was perfect in everyway and ran like clockwork. The food was first class, as were the rooms which were used for the wedding. We stayed overnight in a beautiful bedroom which had a very comfy bed, and a bathroom with a double jacuzzi. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to test out the jacuzzi. Breakfast was superb with lots of choice, and very friendly staff. We absolutely loved our visit to this hotel, and I am sure we will return to remember all of the fabulous memories that were made at the wedding. A massive Thank You to everyone at the hotel who made the day so special and perfect!

We stayed here for a couple of nights to attend a family wedding and had a great experience. Service was good, food very good. Our room was quite compact but had everything we needed. We arrived before check in time but reception were helpful, checked us in, stored our bags and directed us to the Stables restaurant where we had a lovely lunch. The staff were very polite as well as being helpful and friendly.

Excellent hotel and surroundings. Had food in the restaurant which was also excellent. Very friendly staff. Room was rather smaller than expected but very well furnished and clean. Liked the extra touch of fresh bottled water which makes a nice change.

This hotel has exceptional surroundings and looks terrific however while the room we were allocated looked comfortable the bed gave me a bad back, the bathroom was clean and functional, with nice white fluffy towels. The stables restaurant was a nice feature with a warm atmosphere, the staff were very helpful and courteous, the menu provided a good choice, however if like me garlic is taboo the choice is vastly reduced, I thought I was being safe by ordering Chicken with a peppercorn sauce, which was ok but, the sauce was made with mustard, this is another taboo ingredient for me, a good peppercorn sauce helps to make the meal so I was disappointed to taste the mustard over the pepper, incidentally there was no mention of the use of mustard in the sauce description. The breakfast was very good. The only complaint regarding the restaurant was the seating which were dated and in desperate need of loving tenter care. We had a two night stay and had a good day out at Beamish Museum, which was about 1.5 miles away. Would I stay again,……………………

A terrible experiene at this hotel. The bed was a small double which was cramped for 2 adults; one ofer 6 feet tall. The mattress was broken with collapsed springs in the centre band and the side reinforcement broken. The floor was more supportiver & comfortable and this is where the taller guest slept for part of the night. We would have been more comfortable in a budget hoteel at 1/3rd of the price. On reporting the mattress issue at reception during checkout the receptionist first replied with "oh, that's a shame" and then said "We'll ask maintenance to take a look" while examining her manicured fingernails. So, an uncomfortable night and awful staff attitude. We won't be back and would encourage others to avoid.

We stayed here for a wedding and it was an amazing experience. Beautiful building and grounds great for exploring. Staff were great and extremely helpful. Lovely relaxed atmosphere in The Stables restaurant with excellent food and drinks. Breakfast was plentiful with a good choice. Will definitely stay again and recommend to others.

Went on a one night, 'date night' stay. Really good value. Terrific food and beautiful hotel and grounds. What makes it so special are the delightful staff who are so helpful and friendly. We will be back.

Really unimpressed. A really dark, outdated room with a bathroom that wasn't clean - I booked a deluxe double room. To find the room had endless corridors which ended up being very stressful to find with bags to carry. Sadly visited when there was a school prom so the music was loud until the early morning - which I'll excuse. However didn't expect to be woken by the kitchen at the crack of dawn blasting their music from speakers. The staff in the bar and restaurant were not friendly, for dinner or breakfast. What saved this from being a 1 star was the food was okay. Visited for a work event and the conference room was covered in dust and the lunch consisted of purely beige food, not a single healthy option. Could really do with upping their game for how much they charge to stay here. Had better experiences at a premier inn.

Bed tiny and too low (room 220) TV too small and no connectivity poor for 2023 only one seat in room. Kettle facilities hidden in wardrobe. with no handles. Mouldy bath seals are unacceptable for a 4 star hotel.

Lovely, friendly and very attentive staff at this beautiful hotel. Nothing was too much of a bother. The food, both at breakfast and in the evening, was exceptional. Would happily go back there again.

A beautiful relaxing setting enjoyed by the whole family. The restaurant was first class with a lovely relaxing atmosphere. Breakfast provided a great selection of hot and cold food with a continental option and a full English.

My husband surprised me with a night at Beamish hall for my birthday on Wednesday the 19th of July. We checked in and the ladies at the front desk were very welcoming. We booked food in the stables restaurant which was absolutely delicious. I lost a button off my skirt and the lady who seated us was very helpful and got me a safety pin (sorry I didn't get her name) all the staff was so helpful and friendly. The room was very luxurious with a 13th century look, the bathroom was amazing and had a large jacuzzi bath and separate shower. We decided to have breakfast in our room and the night porter Ian took our request, we had a lovely conversation with Ian and he was very helpful and friendly. He told us all about the history of Beamish hall. Our breakfast was exactly what we had asked for and was delicious. Our overall experience at Beamish hall was very delightful and we can't wait to book again. thank you for having us!

This proved to be one of the most disappointing stays ever - booked a de luxe double for the overnight package and we were allocated Room 109 and can only describe our room as being the worst I have ever stayed in nothing remotely deluxe or luxurious about it. Threadbare and ill fitted dirty carpet at bathroom entrance, filthy windows externally, shower screen an accident waiting to happen as so close to wash hand basin and bathroom floor tiles were glossy and a highly polished surface potentially a H & S issue. All in all we felt the room was below par even on a package rate. Couldnt fault the staff however and the Stables restaurant efficient and food good.

Both myself and my wife were rather surprised but the limited menu, given the fancy venue, but hey nothing wrong with a limited menu if the philosophy is a 'few things done well', unfortunately this turned out not to be the case, basis F&C was poor, with soggy chips, even before the vinegar! I ordered the lamb, was not asked how i might like it, so naively assumed it would come 'pink', it was more like charcol, three small chops 1 new pot (cut into 4 wedges) and some undressed rocket and feta salad, for £23, the words of one John McEnroe come to mind. I wont be spending £85 of my hard earned pounds there again.

From the time I made the initial booking with the very efficient Alex in March, I just knew we would be in good hands. Apart from the lack of drawer space in our room (we were staying for 5 nights and had to pack for every eventuality), there is nothing but praise for our experience. Service. The staff are keen to please, friendly and efficient. Food. Portions at breakfast and dinner are huge and the quality is very good. Car Parking. This is free in the wonderful grounds which are immaculately kept. There was a wedding and several school proms while we were there but we were not disturbed at all. But above all it was the "Date Night" package which was the real bonus, meaning we had exceptional value for money. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.

Everything in Durham was booked for graduation, so we felt lucky to find Beamish Hall for a week's stay. The daily trips to Durham didn't bother us, and in fact coming 'home' to Beamish Hall felt like pure peaceful luxury after the excitement and bustle of graduation. We were in Durham to help our daughter pack-up and move back home. We made a number of requests of Beamish Hall, including a room change, extra bed (at midnight no less), breakfast, shipping supplies, crazy requests! We can not get over how everyone here is so nice and welcoming and accommodating. During our stay Beamish Hall hosted a wedding and a prom. It was like something out of a movie driving up seeing all of the glamour. I've never felt that way in a Marriott.

I couldn't fault the staff or settings but sharing a room with my ninety year old mother it was absolutely freezing,staff tried to resolve it.Unfortunately they couldn't and mam has to be taken back to her own home which upset her as we were celebrating her grand daughter's wedding.

We stayed overnight in a Premier room with jacuzzi to celebrate my husbands Birthday and enjoyed Sunday lunch in the stables restaurant. From beginning to end the service we received was excellent. All e mails were answered promptly. The receptionists were so kind and helpful. Our room was immaculately clean and comfortable, the bed, like sleeping on a cloud. The restaurant was lovely inside, super helpful staff and the food was just gorgeous, best Sunday lunch we have had in a very long time. Breakfast was also delicious with a very good selection of hot food to choose from. We will definitly be staying at Beamish hotel again. We felt so relaxed there.

We only stayed the one night but thoroughly enjoyed it. The room was warm and welcoming. The staff were smiley and friendly. We had the Sunday lunch which was amazing and the breakfast was brilliant too. Even the house red at £18.50 a bottle was nice. All in all would heartily recommend this place.

Just back from a lovely Sunday lunch stay. The food was amazing. We had the best breakfast ever! Even though I couldn't eat it all on account of still being full from the Sunday lunch! 10 out of 10 to the chef! The whole place is full of history and immaculate. We will definitely be back.

A thoroughly enjoyable experience. The staff were professional and accommodating. The choice of food and quality was fabulous. The room we stayed in had been updated and the double jacuzzi just makes for a great experience. We always enjoy our visits.

This hotel has a most impressive and imposing building set in fairly close proximity to the Beamish museum. However, within this building there is a very warm and friendly team of people who are not overly imposing but are there when needed. The rooms are very comfortable and the room temperatures are left to the guests to determine which, in Winter can be a big plus. The food is a little above average but the service is exceptional. The team, whose approach is akin to that of a friendly family in that it's casual but very professional. All staff members are as just described but the following people, in the bar and restaurant, are worthy of a special mention :- Suzzane, Paul, Amelia and Charlotte. These people are all a credit to the patrons of the hotel and to the company they work for.

We had a wonderful stay, we stayed in the iris room and it was huge, the bed was so comfortable, and the welcome wine went down a treat, we dined in the stables and our waitress Megan was wonderful, explaining the history of the place, the food was lovely and very filling. I would like to stay again.

We stayed for one night after meeting up with family. The room was very clean and comfortable. The food and atmosphere in the Stables restaurant is great . The hotel is in a lovely location and great for weddings.

A good overnight short trip with partner and friends. Good accommodation and very enjoyable drinks and food in the Stables bar and restaurant. Beautiful old building and well furnished comfortable rooms. If the weather wasn't as cold we would have enjoyed a walk around the extensive grounds. Need to return in the summer.

If you want a stress free Christmas but like all the traditional touches this is for you. This was our third Christmas at Beamish Hall and again the staff, facilities and food have surpassed our expectations. From the moment you get to the reception to the moment you leave your every need is pandered too. We stayed in the Iris room, this is a feature room overlooking the front of the hotel and is quite beautiful. The Christmas atmosphere was wonderful from the wine and mince pies on arrival to the Christmas lunch and the dedication of all the staff to make this an unforgettable experience.

Looking forward to a 3 night Christmas break and we were not disappointed. Staff wonderful food excellent and even two lots of little pressies in our room ! Which we really enjoyed. Would love to go again. Light Show available and all friends very impressed with our photos. Beds comfy. Good value for money too I thought.

I stayed in lovely looking room at the top of the staircase. But like the hotel car park, which is full of holes, the room did not live up to expectation. Issues were - on arrival at 5pm the radiators were just warm; the bathroom was chilly, the towel rail was not working, all the radiators became hot sometime after 11pm when I would prefer a cooler room; an iron is provided but no ironing board, reception said I should have had both; coffee is provided but not tea. A really soft bed; 2 lights not working in bathroom; and finally and the main reason for a low score is the other hotel guests. I would like to give special mention to the lady with the loud voice and her friends, at 00:30 she took a long time to say good night, her piecing voice at full volume and either her or her friends needed loud music before bed. By 01:30 it was quiet and I slept through the other loud guests at 3am, my partner did not. My second stay at this hotel and it's my last, I have found somewhere nicer for next time. Do not accept the lily room if you want a good nights sleep.

The forest of light is a great trip out to get out of the house over Christmas. It's great value for money and it is great for my two smaller children to roam and explore the lights. I wasn't expecting much for the price as there are many other more expensive light walks around but it is good value for money.

Brilliant value for money at £99 for Sunday lunch, overnight stay and a awesome cooked breakfast the following morning. Very professional and friendly staff. A lovely setting and a fantastic old building

We got everything promised but not what we expected for a romantic stay in period country house hotel. The hotel facilities have been abandoned in favour of a separate family friendly bar and eatery akin to Beefeater. If you anticipate getting dressed up for pre-dinner fiz in cosy atmospheric Hotel bar before a romantic dinner followed by nightcap in said bar, go somewhere else. The staff were nice, the food was standard pub food albeit very good, the portions were ridiculous (large). I'm all for this type of eatery when out with family and grandkids but don't expect it, nor to be sharing my romantic dinner with 50 families dressed in outdoor coats hats and gloves, during my 'romantic break' in 4* country house hotel with 'decadent restaurant'. The service offered is Beefeater / Premier Inn with large period bedrooms rather than country house hotel. But having paid £20 extra for superior room is it unreasonable to expect a bed larger than a standard double? Staff training tip: don't tell guests that have spent £250 they may have to pay extra for 1/2 custard & 1/2 ice cream with dessert offered with either! Hotel tip: if you're looking for repeat bookings open up the hotel bar at least!

We booked a 2 night package with bed, breakfast and 3 course evening meal. Also with chocolates and wine on arrival. Very pleasant check in, and room was good, but not outstanding. nice and warm, despite the cold outside. Shower was a little small , and the tv also, but we did not watch much. Nice and comfy bed. However, there was very little drawer space in the room.. Meals in the restaurant were very nice., as was the bar area. We also did the lights in the forest walk, which was well worth the money. All staff we encountered were very pleasant and helpful. For some reason we even had wine and chocolates in our room on the second morning..

A group of 10 friends booked tge ABBA night of entertainment at Bea.ish Hall. It was excellent value for money. The hotel is very clean and looked beautiful decked out for Xmas. We had a brilliant night. The entertainment was great and the food was lovely. The staff were all very friendly. The night was organised well and a good time was had by all .I would thoroughly recommend these events to anyone . Well done Beamish

We came with a group of friends for the Christmas meal, disco and an overnight stay. The food was served promptly and was hot. The rooms were very comfortable and clean and the breakfast was great too.

Convenient location and nice decor. Menu is poor and expensive for what it is. Slow service - we ordered. A second drink which arrived just before we were ready for the bill. I have visited a 3 or 4 times and the desert menu has never had everything on it available.

booked tickets for the forest of light 2022 couldn't go due to circumstances beyond our control asked for refund to be told tickets are NON REFUNDABLE in this current climate I can understand that business have had a hard time over the last few years but so have the general public. So glad we didn't book to stay over and loose even more money.

Arrived for murder mystery night which was booked in advance. Prior to arriving received call from hotel to check we were alright using the stairs as the lift was out of service. We arrived approx 1.30pm and checked in and asked if we could get anything to eat as we had not eaten since breakfast. We were tod that the hall does not do food but there is the stable restaurant at the rear where we could get food. We took our luggage up to our room, dumped the bags and headed for the restaurant as we were really hungry but when we got there we were turned way as it was a festive meal that had to be pre-booked and there was no spare seating. The man at the entrance was quite short with us and didn't leave us with a great impression. We returned to reception and asked if we could get a sandwich or room service. The girls on reception were great, they rang around trying to rustle up some food but were not able to do so, but they did get us a coffee. Our meal was at 8pm so we had to wait until then for something to eat. The meal at the murder mystery event was very nice but no coffee afterwards and no bar, so we went back to our room. The bed had an old mattress which was a bit lumpy but the room was huge. I was awoken at 3.00 am by the sound of running water as the toilet cistern would not stop filling and that kept us awake until 4.30am when we finally managed to jiggle the flush to make it stop. The following morning we went to the stables restaurant for breakfast which was OK. We should have got there sooner as stocks of butter and marmalade were depleted. I ordered the full English with poached egg and my wife the eggs and avocado Florentine. Mine arrived minus the egg and my wife's minus the spinach. At this stage I had given up the ghost ate what was there and we left. Would I return - probably would attend an event but probably not stay (and have a picnic in the car on stand-by)

This hotel is set in beautiful grounds. After a swift and professional welcome we were able to access our room. A little on the small side but so lovely. The en suite had exceptionally lovely towels and the bed linen is comfortable and high quality. We had wine n chocs in our room. We then dined in the stables restaurant as part of our deal. It was amazing. Plentiful n well cooked food. Excellent service Would highly recommend this hotel AND we haven't even had breakfast yet !!!

Went for a wedding. Grounds are nice. Staff were lovely. But thank god we only had to stay one night in the room. It was clean don't get me wrong but nothing special. Just abit meh on the whole experience. The meal through the day was amazing. But the night time I nearly choked on the beef sandwich it was so tough and cold. The new batch of chips looked the business but were also stone cold. Just I imagine the aim for 5 stars but on this occasion it just wasn't for me in areas.

To celebrate my wife's birthday we decided to spend an overnight stay & I'm so pleased we did. Upon our arrival my wife received a card wishing her a happy birthday which I thought was a nice touch. We stayed in a deluxe room which was very spacious, furnished with antique furniture an incredibly spacious & comfortable bed. We dined in the stable's restaurant, the service was first class, the quality of food & the portion size were outstanding. We both selected seafood dishes, my wife choosing the mussels with me having the sea bass & king prawn risotto. We also received complementary drinks during our meal which was a kind gesture. The following morning we both chose cooked breakfast, whilst also enjoying a number of offerings from the continental selections. During our stay the staff we encountered were friendly & helpful. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her birthday and that was in main down to her experience of the Beamish Hall Hotel.

We have really enjoyed our stay here, the Hall feels a bit like stepping back in time, it is very old (and a bit frayed at the edges in parts). Our room was ground floor with a huge double spa bath, antique furniture and very spacious. It is a little damp smelling with a dehumidifier in the bathroom but not really a huge issue. Everything we needed was super clean and with great facilities in the room. We were quietly nestled in a corner of the old building with a small but comfortable bed although our room had zero WIFI connection which we would probably need to mention next time - YES there will definitely be a next time. The restaurant/bar in The Stables is stunning, food is incredible and the staff (so many staff!) are everywhere ready to help. It is fully refurbished to a great standard and trimmed for Xmas was a nice surprise. PLEASE NOTE that the restaurant is a short walk outside of the Hall across a very pretty (cobbled) courtyard and the toilets are accessed OUTSIDE at the rear which would normally be ok except it rained a lot whilst we stayed so the high heels were a big no no for the evening meal!

My stay was enjoyable but I don't think I would stay again. I found it expensive for what it was. The room was clean but tired with peeling paint and creaky bed and wardrobe doors. Some staff members were friendly and some were not.

The hotel is just gorgeous as is the surrounding scenery, the staff are extremely pleasant and sincere, the beds are extremely comfy. I do wish I'd visited at a different time of the year however as in the evening I was disturbed by visitors for the forest of light and in the morning it was visitors of the Christmas fair. Also - the carpets in the hallways could do with some TLC… nonetheless, I would definitely stay again, great hotel.

It was our 13 wedding anniversary and I went for the offer for £249.99. Deluxe room with a bath the size of Guisborough Swimming baths. We turned up 1:30 hours early and they let us straight In...the hall was hosting a xmas festival fair event and was rammed from head to toe but we were seen straight away. Room spotless ..a perfect gift, wine and choccies ...then Bang..electrics went...I reset them. Bang went again..tried sorting with hotel maintenance guy and still no power. The Staff then did something extraordinary..manager came up, introduced herself as J@#£* and offered a feature room which was exquisite...considering how busy the hotel was, this was fantastic, personable and professional.

We took the family down for the forest of light and our children loved it. There was snow, bubbles, smoke and lots more. Children loved it especially the dinosaurs. The uv area is very good. I personally loved the huge mirror balls. Very good value for money. It's half the price of the Gibside event and there is no upselling with extras. The event is very quirky with interactive bits rather than just looking at sculptures lit up. It's definitely more for children than adults.

Great Service clean rooms excellent food couldn't fault the breakfast room or the quality plenty of food.our daughters wedding without a hitch no complaints. Very friendly and professional staff, I would definitely recommend Beamish Hall.

Beautiful building but unfortunately rooms let the hotel down,We went with another couple and both rooms were rundown.Beds uncomfortable and made noises every time you moved ,pillows and duvets old and lumpy.Paint flaking off in areas and hallway carpets were stained in areas.Not to the standard I would expect.The only saving grace to our stay was the Stables restaurant,great food and excellent service form the restaurant staff

Lovely to look at from the outside… including the reception area etc! Unfortunately the room we were allocated smelt strongly of damp; including the whole corridor. Wallpaper peeling from the walls and paint because of this. A machine in the bathroom to help with the problem (but was not helping) signified to me that they knew this was an issue. Personally don't feel that they should be selling this room until the problem is sorted out! We were given a different room on a higher level thankfully, bathroom not as nice at all but just grateful to not sleep in a damp room! No offer of even a complimentary coffee / drink for the inconvenience. We were staying for my partners birthday and it just didn't hit the mark! Bar and restaurant gorgeous and well done… staff a little ignorant. Bed very very soft!

We had a lovely room overlooking the garden and enjoyed our stay. The staff were polite and attentive and we had an evening meal and breakfast in the Stables restaurant which was also very good. Hotel is very close to the Beamish museum.

Beautiful historic building in a lovely setting. We were there for my son's wedding and the grand rooms allowed for an elegant and charming ambience for the whole event. The service was excellent and everything ran smoothly.

What a lovely welcoming venue. The Stables restaurant is tastefully decorated and tables are pleasantly distanced. The Sunday lunch was absolutely delicious, and you can even have a smaller portion allowing you to have a starter and/or dessert! The beef strips with noodles was a delightful starter, beautifully cooked and seasoned. Mains of roast beef, roast pork and roast chicken were all excellent with enormous but tasty Yorkshire puddings. Between us we sampled the sticky toffee pudding, lemon cheesecake and various ice creams. All delicious. All of the staff were really friendly and helpful too. We'll definitely be visiting again

We attended a beautiful family wedding and all was great, bar staff were fantastic, happy, chatty and helpful in these areas. Unfortunately we found other hotel staff on reception rude. Incorrect information meant we missed breakfast. Room was clean and comfortable but a small noisy bed and rattling window meant we had a very disturbed sleep. Luckily the wedding was perfect. Beautiful old hotel, very clean. Staff did nothing to make us feel welcome, it was a cold night but no-one did anything to make the bar seating area cosy, lamps switched off so I turned them on myself. Our stay was disappointing but could not fault the wedding.

The area is beautiful and the hotel has character, but it has numerous issues that can't be overlooked. The hotel advertises free Wi-Fi, but fails to mention some rooms get absolutely no signal. In other hotels we've stayed at this is always clearly mentioned on booking. We stayed 4 nights and found the room had no tv , phone or internet signal (not even the conference version that was supposedly stronger). To get signal we needed to stand in the corridor outside the room. We also found the room was tired with cracked tiles, missing lights, and a very saggy mattress. We stayed in a superior room so it was spacious, and it did have great water pressure in the shower. As we needed to monitor our animals via cameras, we needed internet so after the first night they were able to move us to a room where we did get some signal (still sporadically dropped out, but we could work with it). Again this was a spacious room, but also tired, the bathroom extractor wasn't working, the toilet had obviously been repaired and painted badly, there was a broken wall socket with the wire coil exposed, and the shower had a drencher head that got very little pressure, so little that if you tried to use it between 7 and 9am, it basically trickled and was stone cold. The bed in this 2nd room was only a double (the first room had a king size). The first room had 2 dressers, this room had only 1, and with no shelf space in the bathroom, it meant cosmetics and coffee stuff all had to squeeze onto one surface. I know when you stay in an older property you expect some issues, but we've stayed in much older hotels and not had these issues so we won't be returning.

I stayed at Beamish hall the night before and the night of my wedding. the staff were amazing, so helpful and kind and the food is amazing! Huge portions! The rooms were lovely. Thank you so much for adding such a positive experience to an already amazing, once in a life time event for us.

We chose this hotel because of its location to Beamish Museum and our stay was exceptional. Friendly staff and excellent food. We couldn't have asked for more. Would we stay there again ….you bet we would.

Hotel staff are all lovely and the hotel itself is really nice, if not looking a little rough around the edges, but there currently updating the hotel so you can expect the undone rooms to look a little lack luster. We had a standard room that overlooked the roof rather than the lovely grounds the room hadn't been updated yet . The lights in the bathroom were working but only the one In the shower. The room was clean, but not dusted the headboard was thick of dust, if we had been staying longer than a night this would have been an issue but as just one night not a big issue as the bedding and the rest of the room including the kettle and remotes were cleaned down. Our room was top floor. There's a lot of steep steps, and they had an lift but it was out of service, this hotel is lovely but not suitable for anyone with any sort of mobility issues as the restaurant is over a courtyard and in a separate building. Again this isn't a slight on the hotel, I should have let them know in advance that I may have needed a lower floor, so that's on me. Had a wander around looking at the artwork on the walls loved the details and original features that they have authentic to the building while making it accessible as much as possible. The noise in the hotel is what you would expect from a country house, hopefully they install a little sound proofing around the doors on there renovation. Only major disappointment was the lack of WiFi in our room we were up on the top floor and the roof lining cut off not only the phone signal but ment WiFi couldn't get up to our room, meaning that we had to go down to the lobby to take calls. If we had been there more than one night we would have had to ask to move as we both need to be contacted incase of emergency. We may visit again after they finish the refurbishment as the restaurant was amazing and the staff were wonderful

We recently attended a wedding there and the premises are beautiful. Our room was great. A couple of things could have made our stay so much better. The internet is absolutely dire, on every stay we have made. When you are paying over £200 a night, this needs to be addressed. Where is the switch for the chandelier over the bath? We have never sussed that one out ever. The servers in the Stable restaurant are always miserable and poor at their job. Silly things like refusing to provide a mug for coffee at breakfast, asking three times for sauce, bringing sides after the meal was eaten, pretty terrible for what pitches itself as fine dining. The food however is always tasty. All in all the venue has loads of competition locally that will take better care of its guests for the price being charged.

We took advantage of the Sunday night special stay and included in our amazing price deal was evening meal and breakfast absolutely spot on for what we wanted. We arrived to a very quick and welcome checkin then we went to our room which was spacious and had all the facilities that we wanted, stunning room very pleased with this. We had a table booked at the Stables restaurant at the hotel and this was Instagram ready! Beautiful surroundings and the food was amazing really good quality and exceptional on price. Great service everyone was so friendly Great nights sleep then breakfast again in the Stables plenty of choice? Fresh and plentiful. All in all 100% and cant wait to come back....

Every detail was perfect, the staff were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious and the choices excellent especially for breakfast. The lady on reception deserves special mention, she is an absolute superstar. We will definitely be back

staff were pleasant and freindly, very little noise in hotel so I had a lovely sleep in warm comfy bed. breakfast was served by a superb lady very helpful. Quality of food was first class and overall a pleasant stay. If in area again I would certainly use the place again

Stayed in the Hotel for 1 night only with my Husband and his parents. Both had lovely big rooms, yes they are in need of a little TLC but expected on such an old building. We loved the large Jacuzzi bath!! All staff were lovely and very helpful, especially on Reception. We had lunch in The Stables on the day of arrival which was good, large portion sizes so beware if you want to have a dessert. Breakfast in the morning was a bit chaotic - and we had to ask for some items. We would definitely return and recommend. The Hotel has lots of offers that we will certainly be looking at for next year.

Great setting in a historic house. Altogether a great experience well worth a stay , Beamish museum is 1/2 mile away. The restaurant is housed in the stable block and is very elegant The food was good quality and well presented. The staff are very pleasant and helpful.

The room was great, clean, all the little extras were there that u don't want to bring on hol, the staff were amazing, happy, polite and very hardworking, the food was outstanding, from breakfast to dinner, overall I would recommend this place to anyone that wants great value for money, beautiful sights, and a pleasant atmosphere, absolutely nothing bad I can say, it really made my holiday

We had a lovely couple of days here. First time in this area. Will definitely go back. Food was great with big portions. Nice range of gins and ales. All very relaxing. Just down the road from Beamish museum.

This is a historical building with rooms to match. The approach was impressive. Booked in and went to the room. Internet worked well. Quick doze then off to the football. Arriving back late the night porter was able to let me in. Settled for night took a short while to sleep. Loud music was on as I walked to the hotel from car park. The night porter said he would turn it off.

Fully renovated room and spotlessly clean bathroom. The bed was one of the comfiest I have ever been in. Such interesting pictures and furniture around the lovely decorated hotel employees very professional and efficient. Love the Stables restaurant and bar. Maybe it should have a covered walkway between hotel and restaurant. Lovely stay. Highly recommended.

A great location for a quiet relaxing stay. Plenty of parking close to the main entrance. Room 207 was a dual aspect room with lovely views of the surrounding grounds & countryside. The food and service in the accompanying Stable restaurant was exemplary. All in all our stay at the Beamish hall hotel was a truly enjoyable experience.

We enjoyed a lovely family meal in The Stables Restaurant with our son to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Menu was extensive & Food was delicious and well presented, staff very friendly. Definitely recommend & would love to visit again

On arrival we had booked a room with a jacuzzi but found we didnt have one.The room was furniture was dated and the bottom of the wardrobe was covered in flock dust and had not been cleaned for ages. On our second day we went out and when we returned the toilet roll was missing I informed the reception and used the visitors toilet, the door had no lock on it and after use it didn,t flush. We had to ask reception a second time for a toilet roll for our room. During our stay numorous weddings took place and the hotel seemed to bend over backwards to accomadate them fitting them into the stables resteraunt at short notice. We found that Breakfast was now in the stables and was self service we also noted that the previous room for breakfast was used as store which was a shame. The stables bar used to stay open until midnight but now someone comes out at 10 oclock and say last orders. Our dining experience was ok the staff where good but on our last night service was terrible as they had a large wedding party the meals were below standard we were offered two cups of coffee but declined. On returning to our room the wedding was in full swing and went on till 1145 funny as the stables bar shuts at 10. On one day there was a wedding show and it was noted that one of the staff had a folder for Wedding Rooms no wonder we were second best. We have decided this so called 4 star hotel has dropped well below standards and would not return sadly

We stayed here for a night and the ground of the hotel are lovely! The interior is antic and the rooms do need updating as the wardrobe doors were a struggle to open and did not fully close. The bathroom was nicely done out! Prior to our stay we received phone calls asking what our purpose of our visit was as we had not booked to have a meal on the evening to which we responded we were attending a wedding at a different venue a few minutes down the road. Upon checking in they mentioned that we had would not be dining due to attending a wedding at a different venue which I didn't not think was necessary! One of my friends had an accident during our stay where they fell down the stairs. She was lying on the floor and the bridge of her nose was bleeding. One of the hotels member of staff approached us and asked if we would keep the noise down due to the time of night. I explained that she had fell down the stairs and you could clearly see there had been an accident. The hotel did not offer any medical assistance or even ask if she was okay and instead just walked away from the incident! I think it was very rude and unprofessional. I would have liked to have stayed here again but after our experience I think not!

We stayed at the Hotel as part of the Sunday stay over offer which included Sunday lunch and breakfast the following morning. We booked a double room but when we arrived found we had been given a deluxe room as an upgrade which was a lovely surprise. The whole stay was fantastic. Lovely friendly staff, fabulous building and grounds. The room was really spacious with a great view. The Sunday lunch and breakfast were in the stables bar and restaurant outside the back of the hotel. We couldn't fault any of it, the food was delicious. Attentive and friendly staff. It was a beautiful sunny day and the courtyard was really pretty to sit and have a drink. Overall a great stay and brilliant value for money.

Pleasant rooms but there are areas of 'penny pinching' e.g. one biscuit each on the in-room tea tray and no tissues. A creaky bed and peeling bathroom ceiling show the lack of general maintenance. What really lets the hotel down, however, is the restaurant experience. The Stables is a magnificent converted stable block and courtyard but the staff apparently lack any training in basic table service and if any questions were asked of them had to 'go and ask'. Although the weather was extremely warm (a heat wave in fact) no meals were served outside. We were six diners easily accessible from right around the table by staff but those who served us continually reached across us and between us rather than walk around and serve from the correct sides. Things were also left for us to distribute ourselves e.g. menus, cutlery and water glasses. The food itself left much to be desired. 'Strips of stir fried beef' were lumps of tough meat, the 'shallot ravioli' was a very large bowl of garden peas under which was found undercooked squares of pasta containing unidentifiable green paste. A request for 'no vegetables except a green salad' with the chicken breast resulted in an extra bowl of vegetables, a tea plate sized yorkshire pudding and no salad at all. The tagliatelle was stodgy and my friends were unable to finish it. Breakfast was equally below par with burnt/stewed coffee, weak tea and soggy toast. The 'eggs florentine' on sourdough were in fact poached eggs on ordinary white sliced toast and avocado as there was 'no spinach'. Bacon and tomatoes were unappetisingly plonked on a plate rather than presented with care. A disappointing experience all round given the potential this hotel has. The head chef really must up his game and produce a more balanced menu, more locally sourced food and a better quality finished product if you wish to attract more return visitors.

We love Beamish and decided to spend 3 nights at the Beamish Hall Hotel. We booked dinner, bed and breakfast in a Premier room. The food was excellent with plenty of choice, with fish and chips to die for. The room was lovely with a great view over the front of the hotel. There was a wedding on the first night, a prom on the second and an awards evening on the third. We had great fun watching the comings and goings, but were never disturbed. We would certainly recommend the hotel.

This hotel caters more for weddings than normal guests On arrival we went to our room we had booked one with a jacuzi but found not available even though we booked in November The next day we went out spoke to room service and agreed the room only needed top up of milk etc. On return found non toilet paper in room even though it was there before asked reception to send some up to room used the public toilet by reception which had no lock on door and didnt flush. the room had been done but found hair clips and cotton buds under desk and chair, The bottom of the wardrobe was covered in dust. Breakfast was served in the Stables and no longer in the room in the hotel that as we passed was full of mattresses and junk. Breakfast was now self service nothing like our stays beforehand. On our last night there was a lot of noise from the party for the wedding which went on until 12 o clock

We recently stayed at Beamish Hall while visiting the UK. We had wanted to stay as we had discovered some history regarding my husbands geneology connected with the property. Being our 30th wedding anniversary, we thought we would treat ourselves to a couple of nights. The room was lovely, the food in The Stables was very good, and the staff we encountered were friendly. My one wish would for somewhere on the grounds to sit apart from the restaurant/bar. A few comfy chairs by the stream would have been lovely.

Our recent visit to Beamish Hall Hotel was excellent, friendly service as soon as we arrived right through to the end of our stay. The room was spotless, smelt lovely from the air freshener and the room had all amenities needed. We enjoyed a two course meal at the Stables restaurant and a lovely breakfast the next morning, good selection of food and drink. We booked the date night room offer, we received a rose, chocolates and a bottle of wine in our room upon arrival (lovely touch to the stay), the two course meal and breakfast was included within this date night offer. Our room was really hot but we utilised the fan in the room and we're in the middle of Summer so this didn't spoil our stay. Overall lovely experience and we will return again soon. Thank you!

I have stayed at this hotel before and on this occasion I had the most fantastic room on the first floor windows overlooking the grounds. A huge Jacuzzi in the bathroom and a separate shower were available for use. However it took over an hour to get water into the bath as it just came in as a dribble which was a great disappointment. The shower however works extremely well. I dined in the restaurant food selection and service we have an extremely high standard. I will certainly be staying at this hotel again when I next visit the museum next door.

Our family stayed here while visiting the Beamish Museum and we were so glad we did. Really welcoming, helpful staff, Comfortable room and Excellent food and service in the restaurant for the whole family. I would definitely recommend staying here

This hotel is beautiful and well maintained. Staff were all really friendly and helpful. We were also given a code to get a reduction in the price of the Beamish museum. Our room was clean, tidy and beautiful. Tea and coffee making facilities were available. We had free wi-fi too which was useful as we needed to check in at home and didn't have phone signal

Celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary having been married at the venue in 2002.Although having been developed the character and charm of the building remains. The staff were excellent and the restaurant offered a good variety of food. We had a beautiful room overlooking the grounds, the facilities were good and room spotless. Thank you for a wonderful stay would recommend this hotel.

Within 30 minutes of arrival, a member of staff knocked on the door and asked if everything was okay as there had been a power issue. We then noticed that the TV wasn't working and the room fan was working slowly. We were advised by the duty manager that this was due to the power issue. We noticed on arrival that the lift wasn't working. We were advised that there was a prom night scheduled and there would be some noise for an hour. The noise continued until late. We went outside for some fresh air and noticed the emergency lighting was already dim. On our return the fan had stopped working as there was now a total power cut in the hotel and we had to wedge the window open with a towel as the room was unbearably hot. We went to bed early as we planned an early breakfast in the morning. The following morning there was still no power so we were unable to make abrew and the bathroom was too dark to shower or shave adequately. We went outside for some fresh air and on leaving the room the corridor was pitch black as there was now no emergency lighting either. We were advised there was only a continental breakfast available so we decided to skip breakfast and leave early. On the way back to the room to get our bags we had trouble locating our room and had to feel the raised numbers on the doors as it was so dark. Both our phones had died as we could not charge them so we asked reception if the could ring a taxi which they were unable to do. Luckily a kind member of the maintenance staff offered to drive us to the station. The only compensation we have been offered is 15% off a future visit which we feel is wholly unacceptable

Wonderful building, location and grounds. Staff were friendly and in the most part professional. Rooms a little dated, but can't expect anything different in a period property. Excellent food and extremely reasonable prices.....would definitely stay again

this hotel is only a few miles from home but we felt as though we had gone into a different area.You are near to The marvelous Beamish museum,Gateshead Metrocentre and Newcastle upon Tyne.The hotel is in beautiful grounds in the countryside.We were well looked after throughout our stay and had no complaints.

Nice hotel, room comfortable and clean a bit on the small size, beautiful gardens. Bar courtyard nice didn't use the restaurant for food but had a decent breakfast. Close to a wedding venue we were attending. Hotel staff helpful. Overall a nice 2 night stay

Had a day planned at Beamish museum so booked a night stay as hotel is literally 5 mins away. Booked an overnight with dinner bed and breakfast. Staff were very friendly in accommodating our arrival. No problems when staying. Food in the stable's restaurant was lovely and are generous portions!! All the staff were very friendly and helpful throughout. We paid £20 upgrade as standard room was unavailable for the date I wanted I think thats a fair price, upgraded room is same as standard only a bit bigger. Room was clean and comfortable though ours was very hot, there is a fan provided but Didn't help much in the hot weather. Overall had a lovely evening away, would definitely return and certainly recommend.

We very recently held my daughter's wedding at this location. My daughter had several meetings with wedding planners. To decide which rooms we required and to decide the menu. They even a trial taster day to help them decide. The planner was always available if we had any questions. On the wedding day the staff in all areas were faultless. The location and venue were fantastic and we were blessed with great weather. Most of our party stayed overnight and I have heard nothing but compliments about the staff,venue,rooms and breakfast. I would recommend anyone who wants a wedding to try Beamish Hall

If I were able to give 0 stars I would. My wife and I booked a room at this hotel many months before for a one night stay to attend a graduation ceremony at Durham Cathedral the next morning. The rooms are adequate and clean, if a little tired. For the same price point, I would not say it represents particularly good value for money, however the building itself and grounds are pleasant enough. We returned to the hotel at 8pm extremely tired and wanting to go straight to sleep for an early rise the next morning having travelled a distance of 350 miles over 6 hours to discover that the hotel was being used by for school leavers prom

Dinner bed and breakfast, nice little treat. Food and service not bad at all. Stayed on a Sunday night so it is a limited menu but quality was still good. Breakfast can be busy I'd they have weddings on.

This Beautiful Hotel, looks majestic from the outside, in its 18 acres of land. It did not disappoint inside, beautiful decorated spacious rooms with very large beds in beautiful oak bed frames ( unfortunately far to soft a mattress and uncomfortable for me) to match its furniture. On suit bathroom, with very good shower, unfortunately no ventilation, so heat over flowed into room, But there is a fan as windows don't open much. We were staying over night as we were attending a wedding at another venue 5 minutes away. We couldn't get booked at our venue as there was another wedding that day, due to covid all weddings were slotted in. The Bride and her bridesmaid stayed, to get ready for the wedding. We all sat down to drinks and had a lovely meal, desert even better. Will gladly return to this hotel and gladly recommend for any one to try it even for one night and a bit of luxury.

enjoyed our stay but the stables restaurant could be a bit more accessible especially in bad weather. Dinner was excellent, breakfast was fine, rooms clean and well appointed, staff were tremendous, just love that Durham accent!

We went to Beamish Hall for our college summer ball event. Our organisers had booked the venue and paid for access to venue and grounds, which were beautiful. However, when we arrived at the venue we were immediately ushered inside by rude and aggressive staff, insisting we had to be inside for the drinks reception. We asked to take a few photos outside which would have taken a couple of minutes max, but one male staff member shouted no at us, which was extremely aggressive to a group of girls. we complied and went inside for the drinks reception, which went on for ages before the meal was actually served, so we do not understand why we weren't allowed outside. The meal itself was very poor value for money, with stingy portions and extremely over cooked vegetables, tinned tomatoes in some pastry which tasted like paper. The non-vegetarian option didn't look much better either. The crumble we had for dessert was basically flour on top of cooked fruit, but had been falsely listed on the menu as a plum, apple and pecan tart with berry compote. Our organisers had hired fairground rides for our ball but these were shut off early due to noise complaints from people staying at the hotel. This was extremely disappointing as we had paid for use of the venue and they shouldn't have double booked the venue if they couldn't accommodate our needs. Staff also stopped us from using bathrooms other than one, which had run out of toilet paper, and prevented me from retrieving hygiene supplies from my bag in the cloakroom. One door staff prevented us from leaving the dining hall into the garden through an open door, claiming the venue was being locked down despite the door being open. The venue had potential to be a lovely place to have a ball but due to poor event management and rude door/security staff, it was a complete letdown. I don't believe we would have been treated this way had this not been a student organised event. I hope the venue take a good review of their standards and management training before they accept anymore bookings for large events, as they are unable to provide the standard of services they advertise.

We booked a 2 night midweek stay at Beamish Hall Hotel, knowing it was a wedding venue, but not expecting full size fairground rides being noisily constructed a few yards from the window of our room, then used by large numbers of people on both nights. We were not told about this on booking our stay, or on check in, only when we asked what all the noise was - Prom Season, with many nights like this. The Prom itself would not have been a problem, we have no issue with people enjoying themselves; but it was the noisy fairground rides late into the evening that spoiled our stay. We arrived back from Beamish Museum on our second day to relax before dinner, but the banging and clanging of people putting up the second ride, yelling to each other below our window, meant that was impossible. Beamish Hall seem to want to have their cake and eat it - taking bookings from guests like us seeking a peaceful retreat and booking fairground attractions on the same nights to maximise events revenue. Had we known that a Prom was being held on both evenings, we would not have stayed at Beamish Hall.

Room very tired, cracked plaster in bathroom ceiling ,broken / missing bath room shelf, dirty marks on the wall above TV, lots of dust on the wardrobe top, cable on kettle too short to be plugged in safely, kettle too close the edge of table when plugged in. Large noisy student event happening which we were not aware of until we had booked and had arrived

I adore the gorgeous venue, it is beautifully kept and the staff do a wonderful job, but I have never experienced such a poor restaurant dining service. The wine was dreadful, and hardly drinkable, and the food took so long to arrive that we went for (at least) 20 minute walks between each course. The main course covered 1/3 of the plate - a minute portion of dry, unseasoned frozen vegetables. The main was a thin pastry filled with unseasoned, lukewarm tinned tomatoes. It was saddening that the food took away from such a beautiful location, it made for an unpleasant dining experience. Finally, those who ordered a tart for dessert instead received an apple crumble, with no explanation as to why. We left early because we were so hungry.

We had our college summer ball at Beamish Hall yesterday and many members of our college had worked hard to plan a lovely evening. Unfortunately this was ruined by how the staff at beamish hall talked to us. As we got off the bus we were rudely shouted at to get inside - very unprofessional. Once inside, many of the staff treated us like we were an inconvenience to them, even though we were paying customers and just wanted to have a nice time. I think that because they knew we were students, that they thought it was acceptable to talk down to us and I doubt this same behaviour would have been shown to visitors of a wedding event. I was very disappointed and wouldn't recommend going here for events.

Tired rooms, final room that was newly decorated was lovely, furniture old and tired, would benefit from substantial financial input Room was comfortable and very clean. Good access to a good restaurant on site and ideal for visiting local attractions

Our stay as part of a group was mixed. The best part is the building and the location. The room was average and very dusty. The bed creaked, view good though. Did not find the staff engaging, I could walk past reception with no engagement or acknowledgement. The Stables restaurant really struggled, the staff are very flat, maybe Brexit had taken away good customer focused people. Or it could be they are fed up explaining why half the menu is not available. How can you take orders for three fish and chips on a table then twenty minutes later explain there's only two then twenty minutes later say actually only one. To add insult to injury then be asked if we would like dessert when we still two hours in had not had our main courses. Who runs a kitchen with such poor food availability? Would I return, well not until I was reassured they had enough food for breakfast and dinner.

We paid wait for it £48 per night per room we stayed 2 nights Bargain. But when we saw our room we were a little disappointed the room was nice but very small. We upgraded for £40 per night and the room 103 was massive a bit sparsely decorated but lovely. Big bed and in the bathroom a two person jacuzzi bath and shower. The room was clean apart from dust in places. The hotel is beautiful including the stables bar which is also the restaurant, a converted stable. The lunch time and evening food was amazing and not too overpriced. Breakfast however was a tad disappointing, quality products but our bacon and sausage had been stood about for a while, small point. The number one thing going for this hotel is the brilliant staff, we have stayed in many hotels over the past 18 months and the staff here are head and shoulders above any other hotel we have stayed at. I would not single once person out as they were ALL very friendly, efficient and helpful. Please pass on our thanx. Would we go back? Yes asap with our grandchild next time hopefully in the next couple of months Thank you.

The event was bright and colourful and really fun for children . A fantastic idea. However,while I appreciate that it is in natural surroundings the chunky gravel especially where the children could play with coloured balls was not really safe. I would suggest wearing jeans or thick pants to limit the damage. Even with gentle play our little ones left with left with grazed elbows and knees.

what a place to stay. From the magnificent view of the hotel and grounds on arrival to the stables bar/restaurant and then add in the delightful and friendly staff. All in all great stay and will definitely will visit again.

Beamish Hall made our family wedding more special with their attention to detail and excellent service and the hotel stay was fantastic. You wont find a better team of staff focussed on great service and making your stay a success.

Think I want to get married here!!! The grounds are lovely and the hotel was clean, even the plush decoration pillows on the bed were really clean often there is always some form of mark on them. Furniture really bespoke and all solid wood

Like the tacky Halloween themed rip offs and underwhelming Lights event in December the Alice in Wonderland experience was disappointing. The whole display was very shabby and gave the impression it was done on the cheap. It was nothing as described. Very poor. Whoever is cobbling together these events needs to stop!

We had our wedding at Beamish Hall in February on an exclusive package which meant we got use of all the fiction rooms and had bedrooms included and it was an amazing day. We were looked after very well thought the day and service was perfect. Beamish Hall made sure we have the perfect wedding

We had our wedding here in February. It was absolutely perfect we couldn't of chose a better venue! All the staff were amazing at catering to all needs and everything was set up just as we had planned. Our wedding coordinator for the day was fantastic he made sure everything ran smoothly. All the guests had nothing but positive comments to say about Beamish Hall, thank you so much again I wish we could do it all over just to experience it all again!!

Really very disappointing visit recently for the Alice in Wonderland trail. I would not recommend this to families there was very little wonder on offer. Advertised as an immersive experience there is very little to immerse yourself in.The whole experience took around 30 mins to get around, and certainly did not capture the magic of Alice in Wonderland, definitely not value for money.

I have stayed here on a few occasions over the last 12 months First time in the lily room which has the most. Amazing bath and veiws Second time i was in a room on the second floor which I found the bed to be quiet uncomfortable but the room and amenities where great The third time I stayed what I an describe as the the ground floor The. Room was lovely and the bed was alot more comfortable Food from the stables is beautiful I. Love the soup personally The staff are very nice and professional

We recently spent two nights at Beamish Hall on a dinner, bed and breakfast deal and were sad to leave! Every member of staff we encountered from the reception team on arrival, to the bar and restaurant staff at the Stables, to the maintenance and housekeeping team we passed in corridors were awesome. Friendly and professional. Our room was gorgeous, we booked a classic room which was compact and a little smaller than some others, but with all the home comforts you'd need for a few nights away and spotlessly clean and in keeping with the country house feel. We also overheard another couple raving about the double jacuzzi in their room, which I believe is the premier options so we've started saving to treat ourselves for the hubby's birthday. If you're looking for genuine northern hospitality, with country chic charm and comfortable surroundings - give this hotel a go! you won't be disappointed.

Fantastic stay, lovely room with a view, food was excellent, staff very friendly and helpful, would definitely stay again but longer next time, it is only about 1 mile from Beamish Museum which is a must for a visit, although it is uphill.

Stayed as part of family wedding. Couldn't fault room, facilities or staff. Unfortunately the lift was out of order but this didn't affect me. I stayed in a premier room and wasn't disappointed. Would definitely recommend.

Needs a revamp… Staff wonderful Lifts don't work been waiting for part for. Year, yet they still charge full price. Breakfast moderate, needs more organisation. Food on the evening was nourishing and plenty.Took too long to arrive…… The grounds are nice, fresh flowers would be better than all the artificial flowers in the entrance hall.

Visiting the north east for a family wedding caused much excitement and should have been wonderful from start to the end. Sadly it started badly with poor customer care and lack of planning and forethought. Having a disability is made worse if the service exacerbates the condition. If you provide a lift to allow disabled guests to use the hotel it needs to be accessible!

We had a wonderful stay a few nights ago on the 22nd. Date night package to celebrate hubby's birthday which was excellent value. Beautiful spacious room (101) with wonderful views, very peaceful, clean and comfortable. Lovely welcome from receptionist who was also so helpful with extra room amenities. Superb evening meal, preceeded by great cocktail in the bar, and fantastic breakfast next day with the best poached eggs. We will definitely return and highly recommend.

Our room was looking tired and in need of a refresh. The bed was squeaky but comfortable, my husband would have liked an extra pillow. The tea tray was in the wardrobe, we had to put the kettle on the floor as it was the only socket available. The bathroom was very modern and clean. The Stables restaurant was disappointing, we booked for a Sunday roast but two out of the three Vegetarian options were unavailable. I didn't want a cauliflower & chick pea curry so ended up with the only other option, a plate of vegetables. There was confusion as to whether the gravy was vegetarian. The cooked breakfast -vegetarian sausage, hash brown, mushroom, scrambled egg, tomato, beans and toast was delicious, there were other options of pastries and fruit. The reception staff were friendly and helpful.

A rescheduled 'Sunday Night Getaway' due to a power failure previously. Arrived to be told they had rebooked us for 2025! Put in a nice room, however the corridor was like a rabbit warren with no signposting due to recent repainting. Dinner, although advised of a vegetarian attending for Sunday lunch, advised not available and either a plate of veg or curry as the alternative- inspite of this being a Sunday dinner booking. Eventually the chef said they would serve a veggie burger - chips were undercooked. Desert - choc fudge cake with vanillia ice cream an berry compote....half a strawberry and some raspberries and toffee ice cream were served. Fed up of complaining. So upsetting when I took time off work for this fiasco.

Stayed at the Beamish Hall Hotel for a date night to celebrate our 42 wedding anniversary, had a fantastic room (103) nice and clean as expected. A good nights sleep in a large comfy warm bed. The evening 3 course meals and breakfast served in the Stables Restaurant were absolutely superb and very generous portions so much so we couldn't eat it all. The staff in the hotel and Stables Restaurant were all excellent a credit to the hotel. A special thanks to the breakfast waitress who on her own was marvelous.

We had a very enjoyable stay. The room and bathroom were amazing together with rest of the hotel. Decor was fantastic. A wow factor. We had an evening meal and breakfast in The Stable Restaurant which was of the highest standard providing locally grown products. We will be returning.

Could probably do with a makeover. Furniture a bit to dated. Sunday lunch was superb and could not be faulted. Breakfast was very disappointing, room was cold and so was breakfast. The room had no view and we were woken up as the staff threw rubbish into the bins outside and talking loudly

Arrived for a 1 night Sunday stay, on arrival the hotel is beautiful set in lovely grounds, reception area is clean and bright and the receptionist friendly and efficient. However that is where my positives end. In reception it was clear there was a party being held as it was very loud. We were then given room 203 which can only be described as a cupboard with a bed in it! definitely not what I would expect from a 4 star Best Western Premier hotel and we have stayed in a few - to be honest Travelodge's are bigger. I think this room would have been a single on a normal day, however with the party I suspect they oversubscribed rooms! The room was that small they had to put the tea & coffee tray in the wardrobe! The room was also not in the best conditions, chipped plaster, snapped off shower handle and the toiletries in our room were half used, which is pretty disgusting especially with Covid! I'd rather have had non than used. We did consider asking for a different room, however with the party and the fact we were only staying for one night thought we would just get on with it! So went for tea at the stables as planned ( I will review that separately). On return to the room and trying to sleep the fun really began. We soon realised you could here everything from the room next door! Talking, walking (even them on the toilet - think they also had a problem with the flush). We then had around 2/3 hours of guests leaving the party making all sorts of noise. Along with a coach idling outside our room for around an hour! to make matters worse all this was topped off by a fire alarm. Also the bathroom in our room had a glass panel above the door, so when going in the night you had to wake your other half as the light lit up the whole room. So after a pretty rough nights sleep we were then woken around 6 by our neighbours bathroom runs & showers! All in all I wouldn't stay here again, we may have got unlucky, as I appreciate that some of these things just cant be helped, but I would like to think that given the party going on the hotel would have allocated us a room at the back of the hotel not above the entrance.

My stay at beamish Hall was poor at best. Upon arrival the lack of signage made me unsure as to where to park. And whilst approaching the front door was again unsure if the place was even open. The lady at the desk was pleasant enough. Once we got into the room at first glance was OK, but dated. The bathroom had a disgustingly dirty shower head, and dead flies in the light fittings. The lack of power outlets meant that we had to balance the kettle on the edge of the dressing table to make a brew. No information in the room, (found out that the information had been removed due to covid?) The weather was wet and cold outside and the electric heaters in the room were barely good enough to heat up. So we decided to go to the stables bar/restaurant, again after circling the building trying to find it. We approached the building unsure as to whether it was open also. The barman was again very pleasant and helpful. After some drinks we returned to the room to get ready for our evening meal, we relaxed with a bit of tv which was just visible from the bed. Back to stables for our evening meal all went great, food was good and service decent. The breakfast however was poor at best, we were shown to a table where we worked out ourselves that the breakfast was self serve. I asked for bread which for some reason wasn't readily available and would have to ask for it toasted then also ask for eggs. It seems that as we had to set a time for our breakfast the kitchen wouldve been able to cater for the person. The food was basic at best, my partner requested tea which she is still waiting for. We left after finishing the few bits of food we could stomach. Had I known how the breakfast was going to be this way I wouldve went else where. Honestly disappointed in the whole experience, its quite obvious the whole place caters for wedding parties mostly, so won't be coming back.

I stayed at beamish hall for 2 nights the rooms very lovely and clean staff were excellent nothing was a bother very helpful would love to go back one day I would highly recommend this hotel not just for weddings it would be a nice break

Even though this experience was quite a lot of money, when we worked out the value of everything together and how amazing we were made to feel by all of the hotel staff, we would highly recommend this to couples who want to get away and spend quality time together. So many lovely surprises and the attention to detail was second to none. The service at the stables restaurant however was appalling apart from one lady who was amazing- Claire! She was making sure all tables were comfortable and had everything they needed, a shame though that the rest of the waiting staff did not share her commitment and desire to represent the company in a positive manner.

Booked an overnight stay at this hotel, with it being Valentine's Day, arrived at the reception, was asked to pay my room bill straight away, felt a bit mistrusted, was I going to do a runner. Did pay. Received the room key only to find key would not open door, to be honest hotel has gone through a painting overhaul on all doors. Was given a different room, which the key worked. Good start. But things improved through out the short stay. Restaurant table book in advanced, just as well as the restaurant was busy. Menu was a valentines special. Food was fantastic, 3 courses, restaurant team was very friendly and efficient and worked very hard to please all of their guests. Breakfast the next morning was just as good. Back to the room, it was a deluxe room, all the normal things you would have expected. Plenty of car parking space. Great place to stay for Beamish Museum. Lift was not working. An enjoyable overnight stay would stay again.

Let's get the niggles out of the way, went to make a cup of tea, everything there on tray minus a kettle, went to the telephone in the room to call reception, no dialling tone it had been disconnected. Frustrating! Husband wandered off to reception to get a kettle to be told yes we knew here is the kettle that should of been put in your room, at 6.30 am in the morning. On the good side room clean, staff friendly, food very tasty, but far too long time between each service.

Excellent night in a Deluxe room. Room was cosy and very comfortable (room 111) The Valentine's package was very nice, good value for money. Meal Excellent in the stables restaurant with lovely cocktails too. All the staff were very friendly. Great made to order breakfast in the morning too.

Booked a date night package for my boyfriends birthday. Fantastic value for money. Food in restaurant was so good and the extras of wine and chocolates in room just topped it off. Room did need a through dusting.

Stayed on the date night offer we have had three visits up to now back in March again, food fantastic, drink reasonably priced, absolutely spotless hotel throughout, rooms clean and comfortable and staff could not be more helpful

My Son and new Daughter-in-Laws wedding took pace at Beamish Hall and it was just magic and perfect. The venue is amazing, great character, good size bedrooms, we had a deluxe double, great common areas with roaring open fire. The Stables Restaurant had great food and lots of character. Service was very good too..

What an amazing stay we had for my husbands 50th birthday surprise. We were upgraded to a premium room which was superb. Very light, airy and spacious with a huge bathroom and double jacuzzi bath. They decorated the room for us with balloons, banners, cake and sprinkles and everything was done perfectly. The meal in the Stables was fantastic and I will do a separate review for them. It was included in the DBB deal and really was amazing value for money. Thank you do much for a lovely time and for the extras that made my husbands birthday extra special.

We had a great time here, our room was lovely we had a dinner and breakfast package. The stables was a lovely venue with delicious food, it was a Sunday and we had an excellent roast and fudge cake for pudding. It was the team at beamish that made the night so special though, both at the reception whilst checking in and the stables. However a special mention goes to gavin and his colleague at the residents bar (I didn't take his name unfortunately), they really made the night we went there with some other guests we met and they were so attentive and such good fun, there was another guest who was being very rude and they handled it impeccably we all agreed! Thank you for such a good stay.

Tired looking bedroom, very poor menu choice at the Stables and even less choice for breakfast. Breakfast items were very poor quality. Not as previously experienced and not keen to return - I think this hotel has had its day for anyone other than wedding parties.

Stayed here for a wedding, top venue beautiful setting, great staff.. not much more f a phone signal if that matters to you?? Didn't bother me.. could get on the hotel WiFi if needed.. lovely bar food was amazing

Me and my girlfriend stayed with the date night package. Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was large and clean. Waiting in the room was a bottle of wine, chocolates and a rose that my partner appreciated. Had dinner in the stables which was great food and friendly service. Woke up had a walk around the grounds and headed to breakfast which was lots of choice and I great waitress Kim. Would recommend for couples night away.

Rooms need updating. Internet not secure. Our room (212) was outside a generator or A/C unit which was on all night. The front of the hotel was closed or seemed close, the restaurants were closed, all food was served in the stables. The lifts were OOO. The grounds were closed off due to light show...

Room and hotel are very tired however it seemed clean and tidy. Stables food was slow to come we waited over an hour between starter and main course. No available times for breakfast so had to eat in our room.

We chose the carnival night for our NYE celebrations. This included a celebratory event, overnight stay with breakfast. Our room would have benefited from having a large double bed. Furniture was of the period and the doors creaked and squeaked accordingly. The event started with a glass of champagne the five course meal was exceptional and the service first class. We ordered wine to be served with the meal which was under £20 bottle Alhough there was not much choice. Entertainment was ok. Fireworks at midnight with mulled wine or a whisky was also included. Breakfast was served in the stable's restaurant efficiently and hot. Overall much better than we were expecting especially from a Best Western.

Although there were some ‘pretty' lights, from the way it was advertised, we expected so much more. There was no real theme, the quality of the displays was very amateur and it was not worth the price of the ticket. The only member of our group that enjoyed it, was my 4 month old grandson who is fascinated by light! And we didn't have to pay for him!

Beamish hall was fantastic for our Christmas from the 23rd to the 26th staff was so helpful throughout our stay nothing was a problem food was delicious to breakfast to the winter gardens Christmas dinner and the receptionist was ever so helpful

Very disappointed with the 3 day festive break. In particular the Christmas lunch was disgraceful and both my partner and I returned the main course and we're only offered a similar replacement. Very poor access from the hotel to the separate restaurant . The hotel requires a full restoration and redecoration .

We had been looking forward to this event but due to several family members testing positive for coronavirus we are unable to attend. The reaction of the hotel was simply no refund or credit available as this is clearly stated in the terms and conditions. To say I am disgusted with them is an understatement but I really shouldn't have expected anything else from them as we ate in their Stables restaurant three or four years ago and found them to be completely uninterested in several issues we had with staff food etc. We will be ensuring that we never attend any future events at this hotel.

Just returned from spending Christmas at Beamish Hall. What a wonderful experience. The twin room was lovely and the bathroom was excellent. Never known staff as obliging and helpful The bar and restaurant service was faultless as was the food. All in all a lovely break for a reasonable price. Would certainly recommend.

Overall very poor experience , too many things to list. I will not be returning or recommending this restaurant to anyone. The stables has definitely gone downhill. Absolute waste of £170.00 for two pub lunches

We had the "Deluxe" room. Good size room with old style character as you'd expect. The main complaint is the size of the double bed. For £100 a night, room only, in a room described as deluxe you expect the bed to be at least 5 foot instead of the 4'6" bed we had. I was told that all rooms except Suites only have 4'6" beds. The other issue we had was noise from the waste water system. It seemed that most of the rooms near to us had a toilet macerator system that was rather noisy. It was loud enough to wake you up if someone else used their toilet! The room and bathroom was nice and clean with the exception of the bathroom light fittings that were full of dead flies. Shower leaked water onto the floor. Shower very weak water flow particularly at busy times in the morning. Tea and coffee in the room good but nowhere to plug the kettle in except on the floor. Most of the hotel reception staff were friendly and helpful. Stables restaurant staff not so good with the exception of one very nice helpful young lady (I'm sorry I didn't get her name) We only used the restaurant once for breakfast as didn't really want to return. (mainly due to staff attitude) We found a very nice café close by instead. We had dinner one evening which was average, many items not available from the menu. I was unable to charge the restaurant bill to my room even though they did a pre authorisation to my credit card on check in. Bit annoying but just had to pay as we went. In summary we probably wouldn't stay here again.

Great old building, but needs a bit of care and attention - but on the whole great accommodation. What brings the hotel down is the meals and the service. The stables could be a great place to eat, but the service was beyond poor - took a long time to get to us, as soon as we had given the initial drinks order they turned their backs and walked away even through we were trying to give another order. Same when the meal arrived, it was dropped onto the table and quickly walked away while we were trying to ask for vinegar! Could be accepted if the food was ok, but very poor - the chicken burger was so tough it could have been made several weeks earlier. Real shame.

Very friendly staff team, the Stables bar has a warm and comfortable feeling that makes you want to stay. Making a short stay feel we needed to stay longer. The options on food were excellent accommodating for all dietry needs and great value for money. Needless to say we have booked up for a Sunday night stay over, offering a Sunday Dinner, a nights stay and breakfast on the following morning. We will be taking full advantage of our 25% discounted Mueseum annual access tickets from this stay, during our next stay in January 2022. We live an hour away from Beamish but were made to feel we were further afield and the experience has now made us aware, we would happily stay for a week or possibly longer, the ammenities are excellent and in keeping with the period of the great hall. Well done Beamish and your team and of course Best Wester Hotels.

Just had a night at beamish hall and it certainly met with all our expectations from the beautiful furnishings and decor also immaculate cosy rooms and the most helpful staff with breakfast of the best quality produce in the stables cannot wait to return thankyou for my stay .

I'd heard a lot about the Beamish Breakfast but I must have gone to the wrong hotel. After being sat down I had to wait 10 minutes to be served. Grumpy woman asks if I want juice, strangely 2 glasses of orange juice arrive. Then the same officious prison warder says what do I want for breakfast? I say the full breakfast and a pot of tea. No mention of cereals, toast or other accompaniments What arrived I wouldn't have given to a hungry goat...massive raw mushroom that everybody returned, bacon uncooked on one side raw sausage in the middle, cold beans,cold black pudding all served on a cold plate with some weird shoots randomly placed over it ...as if had come out of a 5* kitchen. With the weakest of luke warm pots of tea. No toast or jam brought out to go with it. Pretty aweful to be honest.

I had my winter ball here at university and this venue completely ripped us off. I'd spent the best part of £100 to be here and they bought in the cheapest wine, which taster disgusting, think I could've brewed better in my toilet! Also the portions were tiny for my 3 course meal below is a photo of my main. It was pretty obvious that the meal hadn't cost very much for them to produce. It just seemed like they thought they could make maximum profit because we were students and take advantage of us. There is no way that this sort of food would be served up at a wedding there!

We were due to attend the wreath making however with weather warnings in place due to the back end of the storm we were concerned about safety so didn't really want to risk driving, particularly after the event as it would be late and we are not local. I phoned and spoke to the events team at Beamish and asked if could move to another date, unfortunately they were fully booked. I asked if there was a cancellation list we could be added to in case anyone cancelled on the other dates and we could take their places, not something that they do was the response! So asked if we could have vouchers instead, once again I was told this wasn't possible and obviously not refundable. Really disappointed with the service as we were looking forward to the wreath making but not prepared to risk our safety and felt there should have been a bit more flexibility or helpful attitude towards our predicament but everything I suggested was just treated with a no sorry. If they actually looked at the bigger picture and offered vouchers we'd have happily returned on another date and probably spent more money with them. Also I don't think it would've been a hardship to pop our names down in case someone needed to cancel on another date! As a result we won't be visiting Beamish hotel or museum in the future!

A beautiful building, sympathetically extended and set in glorious gardens. The public areas are lovely, but the decor in the rooms and the bathrooms is very tired. The Stables Restaurant is very nicely appointed, and although the food is nothing special it's not unpleasant. The breakfast on the first morning was delicious. Unfortunately, on the second morning it was dreadful, we waited over half an hour and when it finally came it was practically inedible. We declined an alternative choice as we'd run out of time. The internet connection in all areas is really poor. There's a very conferency feel about the whole place, although goodness knows how they manage with such poor internet. Doubt we'd stay again, such a shame as the building deserves better.

The staff were really helpful (hotel and restaurant), beautiful surroundings, lovely food and ample parking. The WiFi was a bit weak and there wasn't a mobile signal but that's not a reason to mark the hotel from 5 to 4 stars. What I was annoyed about was having 400 university students appear 6pm-2am 2 nights running for a ball without being told. There was an opportunity to say before I booked on the website, when I booked, on a sign at reception, when I booked in and in my room. I wasn't bothered by the students and would still have stayed but it was poor management not to tell guests that there would be dodgems, a hot dog stall and 6 double decker buses off extra guests.

The Hotel building and grounds were beautiful but however I feel that the interior of the hotel was tired and needs a serious freshen up. Our room had some nice bits of old furniture but was basic and didn't feel like I expected it to be. I was also extremely disappointed with our view out of our window a brick wall and bin store!!! To top it off when the receptionist asked if everything was okay at check out and I mentioned I was disappointed with the view she chose to ignore my comments (She obviously had heard it before and chose not to comment).

Booked in 2019 for treat. Finally got to stay this year. The building and grounds are amazing. Staff are excellent and go out of their way for you. Xmas fair was lovely to visit with a good selection of stalls

We booked this trip to see the Christmas Market and The Forest of Lights. Our stay was very enjoyable comfortable rooms and lovely place to eat in the grounds (Stables) where food was cooked to order and of excellent quality.

Stayed for 2 nights to visit nearby Beamish Museum. Staff were friendly and extremely helpful from check in to check out. Especially during a short power cut on our second day. Rooms are a good size and decorated in a way to reflect the nature of the hall. Eat in the Stables Restaurant on both nights, which serves generous potions of good food at a reasonable price. Breakfast in the same place was an excellent start to the day. Special mention to Justine, in the Stables Bar, for her friendly and welcoming nature.

Our room was clean supposedly deluxe ,a bit tired but acceptable. It was top front right with dual aspect we were kept awake by the external noise of taxis,cars and loud voices more than half the night. No lift, only one heater in room,poor breakfast We cut our losses and checked out after one night

Original confirmed booking cancelled by hotel as they made a mistake. After many follow up emails they provided part credit. Rooms dated and not well maintained. Could hear neighbours in their rooms. Had a meeting breakfast set for 9.00 and it was finally catered at 9.45 and coffee depleted and insufficient food servings. Staff tried hard but many inexperienced

I had a great stay here for just one night. The room was spotlessly clean and the welcome Was warm. loved the furnishings in the room and the bed was comfy . Stayed in 204 which has a great view out of the front of the hotel. I didn't go to the restaurant.

The latest review mentioning room 114 is absolutely correct. We stayed in room 114 and the bright light outside the room was a genuine problem. The curtains are thick but the light came pouring in around the top and edges, it was actually darker in the room in the morning once it was daylight outside and the light wasn't switched on. We did report this to Reception when we left. However, we were very happy with the cleanliness of both room and hotel in general. The dinner in The Stables restaurant was very good, as was the service. Reception staff seemed friendly, and staff were quite happy to bring us ice when requested. Breakfast was fine, but not as good as dinner, which we had really enjoyed. The choice seemed good. Overall we would recommend the hotel (minus bright light), especially for the cleanliness and character features/furnishings. It felt very comfy and cozy. The bathroom with shower and bath was really very nice.

Had a really nice one night stay, would like give a 4/5 but gona stick with 3. The stables restaurant and bar was the real highlight of the stay, really nice evening meal and fantastic breakfast with really kind and well mannered staff. Room was lovely and really clean, bathroom slightly dated but again very clean. Only slight disappointment were the state of the hallways from Back exit to the stables, carpets and walls are disgusting and in need of decoration and cleaning, really not a nice walk down. But that is really the only negative, on the whole would stay again.

Room 114 The lift was broken. This room is upstairs, along a long corridor, down a flight of stairs. It overlooks a pathway into the back of the building. It's got the brightest light in the world down that alleyway that stays on all night, you could literally read a book, no sleep at all. The constant buzz from the outside building also keeps you awake. I would not stay here again.

Would stay here again, rooms have very traditional furniture, comfortable beds and deluxe ones have plenty of space. Ate at the stables restaurant, superb Sunday dinner, gorgeous breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff too

This is a lovely hotel in a wonderful rural location right next to the Beamish living museum. We booked a three night stay and overall had a great time. The car park was large and it was easy to park close to the hotel. Our check in experience was smooth and friendly with just a very short wait in a small queue. The room was spacious and full of character with traditional furniture. The furniture was creaky, especially the bed frame but this just felt quirky rather than annoying. The room was clean and serviced each day with individual toiletries provided. The bathroom was huge with a lovely large bath and shower. All staff wore face masks and there were several sanitising stations throughout which was reassuring. We ate in the Stables restaurant each evening and the food was delicious and very well presented. Unfortunately on two of the evenings we had very long waits for our food which rather spoilt our experience. It's hard to understand why we had to wait quite so long as there was no shortage of waiting staff (who incidentally were all lovely and helpful). Breakfast was wonderful with lots of choice. The Stables restaurant is only accessed by going outside across the yard (should have guessed by the clue in the name ‘The Stables' :-)) which felt inconvenient especially as it's starting to be very cold in the evenings and one of the usual benefits of eating in the hotel where you are staying usually means not having to wear a coat to go outside for dinner. So one tip would be to take a light jacket or wrap for the walk across the yard. That said it was a minor inconvenience rather than a big issue. Had it not been for the long waits for food we would rate this with a 5 instead of a 4. We would definitely like to stay there again.

For a 12th century property the building is great but the rooms (bathrooms) are in serious need of an upgrade/service. The water pressure is appalling , the jacuzzi baths are a joke and are not a bubbly experience!

I stayed at this lovely hotel with my family. All 5 of us really enjoyed our stay. Staff were very helpful, food was delicious, room was nicely decorated and huge. Really would recommend beamish hall we will be back soon.

The wife and I booked into the Beamish Hall hotel on the Making Memories package as it was our Ruby wedding anniversary and after 40 years of marriage a treat was on the cards. On arrival we was greeted and shown to our room via 3 floors of stairs with luggage as the lifts were not working. Still once in the room I was pleasantly surprised the room was well appointed and the bathroom huge with a double whirlpool bath, it was just a shame the button to regulate the settings was broken so only one speed was available. There was a a bottle of champagne and a lovely bunch of flowers on the table as well as a spa treatment box which the wife was really pleased with. We were booked into dinner at 1900 where things started to go astray. After the starter we had to wait for an hour and a half before we asked the waitress where the main course was. The main swiftly turned up 05 mins later but was not cooked correctly so was sent back, which would have resulted in another half an hour wait and the wife would have had to eat alone, so we retired to the bar instead. I thought maybe this was just a minor setback and I could forget a little mistake. However the next morning we had booked breakfast in the room which did not arrive and on phoning reception was told they were too busy. Even when we went to breakfast the breakfast arrived but not the toast which was disappointing. The rest of the day was really pleasant with a trip to Beamish Museum on returning my daughter had phoned me to see if we had enjoyed her gift, which we hadn't received, again the hotel had forgot to place it in the room. Whilst the hotel was beautiful it was not the memory maker the hotel had promised, parts yes but not the overall experience. Would I go again? at £650 for 2 nights to receive this type of service then the only answer I have is NO

Out dated rooms. Expensive for a room from 1925. Noises from everywhere...deliveries at 7am...the grounds are immaculate and bar staff friendly. Grouchy woman at reception..very sharp. Food was decent also. Lovely to look at but the rooms are terrible

Stayed for 3 nights, stunning setting with beautiful walks, good local all round shopping. Hotel stunning with lots of character, staff very professional and welcoming. Restaurant food exceptional and very reasonably priced .

The external building is beautiful and in gorgeous grounds. We booked through booking.com with specific requirements for walk in showers and rooms lose together. Reception area large and stark and unwelcoming. No smile or words of welcome. Requirements requested were not met although we managed to get one room with a walk in shower for a 95 year old. Rooms are small (apart from de-luxe) cramped, furniture dated and not particularly clean. Walls are paper thin and sounds of television and toilet flush from next room could be heard through the walls. Beds comfortable but squeaky old beds. Rooms just need a huge investment and TLC. Loads of rooms downstairs not being used. Huge focus on this place as a wedding venue/themed nights but could be turned into a place offering a bit of luxury. Stables Restuarant staff are lovely. Food is fairly standard fare, large portions but needs more focus on quality not quantity. Breakfast - the rate of £12.50 for omelette is excessive but ok for big breakfast. Request for Cappuccino not possible, possible at lunchtime but not breakfast! Overall this hotel has huge potential but needs investment to bring it up to required standard. Understand it's use as a wedding venue but not a place where I would return to for a holiday or weekend break. Reception staff need an uplift, tired and flat reflecting the overall feel of the hotel

We chose this hotel for its close location to Beamish museum, just minutes away. The setting is beautiful and the hotel is furnished to reflect this wonderful old country house. The stable block has been converted to the bar and restaurant, very tastefully done with a pretty outdoor area. The food was excellent, plenty of variety and high quality produce. The staff were so welcoming, friendly and very efficient. Our room was comfortable and clean, had everything we needed. Would absolutely stay here again.

Attended a wedding here in October 21, the day was amazing from start to finish, all staff were very helpful and attentive! Every room was decorated beautifully, and the full wedding party were accommodated perfectly!

Fabulous hotel with extremely friendly and helpful staff. Everything was very clean everywhere well decorated. This was our first stay in a hotel since the pandemic and we felt very safe. The food was well presented and delicious. Beautiful grounds and gardens. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

Beamish Hall is the perfect venue for a wedding, with sumptuous rooms and grounds. As guests, we were treated to the same level of attention to detail as the Bride and Groom and everything was perfect. We travelled a fair distance to get there, but our family are in the North East and the staff are every thing you would expect from that area - warm and friendly, attentive with the feeling that they were only waiting for you to arrive. You were almost waiting for them to "put the kettle on".

Very warm and genuine welcome. Well organised event with super service. Kitchen coped with my last minute request as I am allergic to fish so was offered a delightful portion of chicken. Very large bedroom needed some brightening

When we met-up with for a family birthday we enjoyed a meal which was served with respect and pleasant staff. We all didn't have the same meal but whatever we had was excellent except one. We continued with coffee and champagne served in the garden and were lucky with the weather.

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights on a ‘Making memories' package and were thoroughly impressed. The grounds and exterior set our expectations as we drove in, and we were not disappointed. The reception staff were fully aware of the details of our package and were very friendly, in fact they could not have done anything more to improve on our first impressions. We stayed in the Lily suite which was the brightest room I have ever encountered. The room had 3 large Georgian sach windows which flooded the room in natural light. It was very comfortably furnished in the French style with a fabulous bed. The bathroom was similarly impressive, in the Victorian style with his & hers basins, free standing bath and large walk in shower. Every member of staff we encountered were genuinely friendly, giving their full attention and made sure we were happy without being intrusive. The restaurant (breakfast and Dinner) was set in the beautifully converted stable block. The menu was comprehensive and very good quality, served piping hot and without delay. In summary, I cannot speak highly enough about the hotel and its staff, the stay was very enjoyable and we will be back at one stage. The hotel is approximately a mile from Beamish open air museum which is a great day out and highly recommended. Thank you to Beamish Hall staff for making our stay memorable.

We stayed at this hotel for its convenience for visiting Beamish Museum and Durham. Hotel is beautiful and has character however lack of eating facilities and poor internet let it down. Some form of evening entertainment would have enhanced our visit.

Staying in this magnificent country house in equally stunning grounds really is like being to the Manor born. As your might expect the rooms are a tad dated, but the restaurant is tasteful in every way, and it's doubtful if you'll find a better base from which to visit Beamish Village. What an eye catching enactment this is of the life and times of yesteryear. Both places are a must to visit if you're in the North East.

For a deluxe double the room wasn't very good at all, felt more like a cheap Blackpool B&B. smelt very musty, dead spiders on the furniture didn't help much. All the bedding was clean, bathroom was clean. The stables restaurant was really good and the food was excellent.

Just back from a Sunday lunch here and it looked a lovely place. Greeted warmly,drinks ordered and then shown to our table for 6. Starters and main courses ordered by 13.00. Starters took over 20 minutes to arrive. Our mains were not brought until at least 40 minutes after. Meals looked fine but not very warm, the yorkshires were cold. We mentioned this to the lovely girl who came to check all ok. Then another chap offered to get us new meals which we declined,not wanting to wait another 40 minutes. Food passable but veg too al dente for our liking. All in all extremely disappointed at what was supposed to be a family reunion, as we live in France, only here for a week. Perhaps the wedding meals being served in other room were prioritised? The meal wasn't cheap and we all expected better. Sorry,but will not be returning.

Went on dinner bed breakfast rate the evening dinner was nothing more than low budget bar meal very disappointing the hotel was great and so were the staff I had beef stroganoff the beef was tough. Chewy

Our stay at Beamish Hall hotel far exceeded our expectations. Chosen due to it's close proximity to Beamish museum we found the staff welcoming, the room (The Lily) clean, well maintained and full of light from very large sash windows. We had booked the stay in April along with the restaurant and had no difficulties with times to eat. The Stables Restaurant needs special commendation. The staff were very welcoming and attentive, the vegetarian options delicious and for once a nutritionly balanced meal. We had arrived having treated ourselves to a special few days at a Luxury hotel just outside Ripon which was shambolic. We left early as Beamish Hall could accommodate us for an extra night. Our stay here has made up for our huge disappointment earlier in the week. We would recommend, many thanks.

Upgraded to a room on our DDB package it was large however the cleanliness was appalling bathroom door full of grime around door handles thought this would have been a priority during covid? Called up the duty manager who tried to make light of it saying "it can be easily missed" had to insist on it being cleaned. Carpets in areas around hotel stained. The Internet was non existent in the restaurant. Food items not available on 2 consecutive nights soup choice same both nights found some of the staff to be friendly others very abrupt!!! Couldn't book in to the restaurant at a decent time although we booked weeks ago. Breakfast was chaotic and very slow beverages slow in coming had to keep asking for a 2nd pot of tea. Very disappointing for this 4* hotel probably would not return

Very comfortable room and attentive staff. Food excellent quality and great choice for breakfast.Love the location 1 mile from Beamish Museum and the country setting. Unfortunately the brewery on site is closed not sure if this is permanent or not.

Stayed here with my partner, room was lovely, hotel was beautiful, staff were attentive and friendly. Only drawback was a shower that didn't quite spray as I would expect. Definitely stay again this time for longer

We stayed here for my partner's birthday. In the Lily room. Highly recommend. The room was very large with three large sash windows, looking out over the hotel entrance, lawn, and woodland. The bathroom is massive with lovely white tiles, double shower, double sinks, and a roll top bath. Bedroom was fitted out with white French style furniture. It was wonderful to be woken with blue skies and sunshine, and viewing the wonderful greenery directly from the king size bed. Restaurant facilities offered an extensive selection. Lunch at 1, evening meal at 8, and breakfast - all superb. Then to finish with a bucks fizz on the lawn before we left. Every staff member was very helpful, professional, and smartly dressed. Definitely one of the best hotels we've stopped in.

This is our second time at the hotel and the service once again has been exceptional. The food in the restaurant is fantastic and the staff are helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend this hotel and restaurant.

We stayed for 2 nights and engaged it was longer. Its very close to the Beamish experience so very convenient. The grounds are beautiful and so well kept. All the amenities are lovely and clean and in excellent order. The beds are so comfy and fresh and the staff are so friendly, helpful and approachable nothing was too much trouble.

We stayed here for our honeymoon and couldn't have wished for a better place to go to . Cleanliness of the hotel was great ,all staff wore masks , and food was outstanding definitely value for money in the restaurant. Staff were so friendly nothing was too much trouble at all .

The hotel itself initially appears magnificent and we were excited to be staying as a family post COVID for a short break and family wedding. The room we got initially had no hot water, bathroom shelf was broken, z bed absolutely terrible for child and super uncomfortable double bed….. We moved rooms, second room looked ok but in morning we again discovered shower didn't work and cold!!!!! Very very disappointed

We've just spent a night at the hotel having booked the “date night” package for ourselves and two teenage daughters. We found the package to be exceptional value for money (it included wine and chocolates in each room) bed, breakfast and the most sensational 3 course meal. From starter to pudding the dinner wowed us. The gluten free options were fantastic for my daughter, the portions were hugely generous and the quality and taste of the food was superb and it was cooked to perfection. The rooms were one of the smaller rooms in the hotel, but they were beautifully styled with gorgeous furniture and, as we were blessed with stunning weather, the size of the room didn't matter and we loved walking around the gardens and sitting in the grounds having a drink. The only “even better if” would be that the bathroom was a little dated and could maybe do with some TLC, but this is a beautiful old house and we certainly weren't going to allow a small detail override all the wonderful aspects of our stay.

Booked hotel for 7 year wedding anniversary at beamish hall. Stables staff were fantastic. Receptionist on check out was terrible. Room was expensive for what it was. Stained bedding and extremely uncomfortable mattress

Beautiful setting as we drove up. Staff amazing, we attended a wedding and had a lovely few days. The food at both breakfast and our evening meal was lovely and generous portions. Gardens are beautiful. Room was nice though a little old fashioned, we had a good nights sleep. There was an iron and ironing board in the wardrobe and a variety of refreshments. Nice place for a getaway.

Beamish hall was the venue for our wedding. From first contact speaking with the wedding team and all the staff through our planning a wedding. Me and my partner had a magical day! The food was amazing and the chef needs to take a bow for the soup the day was ran so smoothly and really will give lasting memories , the grounds , the rooms , drinks , we really couldn't fault how amazing this day was. Will certainly be back for our first anniversary! Would recommend anyone to stay over for food or drinks or even a wedding. We can't put into words other than this venue is absolutley flawless

Arrived at 3pm and checked in. The member of staff on the reception was informative and helpful and told us how to get to the Charron Apartment. We decided to take the lift to the third floor but be beware - it's very small! Blown away at first glance in the apartment - it is huge! We couldn't believe how it kept on going. Loved the pampas grass touches and the decor in the living room; however the aesthetic in the apartment seemed a little disjointed. Face masks and treats were provided in the kitchen - this was a lovely touch! On a closer look in the apartment there were some major snagging issues (despite being marketed as newly decorated). There was damage to the kitchen cupboards with the laminate coming off. The kickboards didn't fit properly with a gap at the bottom corner to the left of the sink. There was a chocolate stain on one of the cream cushions in the living room, flickering spotlights and the ensuite shower door was off its runner. Whilst none of this hindered our fun, for a £500 a night pricetag - we expected 4* luxury! We went down to the Stables for a round of cocktails and sharing platters as outlined in the offer. A table had already been booked on behalf of us. We arrived at half 4 as per the booking and it took around 5 minutes for a member of staff to acknowledge us and take us to our table. When we sat down, the members of staff only thought cocktails were included and didn't know about the sharing platters - we had to ask about these. Dietary requirements weren't asked and two meat-filled deli boards came to the table - much to the disappointment of my vegetarian friend. The cocktails took 30 minutes to come to the table - by this point we had eaten the deli boards and were a little disappointed with the service. There were several servers in the Stables, but the vast majority of time were stood talking amongst themselves rather than checking on the clients/guests. Luckily, when we came back for our evening meal at 7.30pm, the service was much better and the food was delicious! Breakfast this morning was delicious however service was lacking in the finer details - drinks were not offered to be refilled so we left breakfast after having only a few gulps of coffee and juice. A little disheartened as expected 4* service and luxury in the apartment!

We stayed at the hotel last weekend (31 July - 2 August '21) for my son's wedding. The whole stay was amazing. The staff were all friendly, attentive and really helpful, from the reception staff, housekeeping, waiters, bar staff - just everyone! Nothing was too much trouble and as a result the bride and groom had exactly the day they wanted - what more can you ask? The food was top class and delivered to everyone at the table at exactly the same time and piping hot. One blind wasn't working in my son and daughter in law's room and when I asked for someone to look at it, they immediately went to the room and fixed it straight away with no fuss. The hotel and grounds are spectacular and a fabulous backdrop for wedding photos. I really can't thank you enough for giving the whole family an amazing weekend and the bride and groom the perfect start to their married life.

I would liked to have stayed longer but I could only get one night as you were fully booked I have stayed at this hotel a few times and it's always been great. Please advertise there is a golf course close by. I only noticed it this time.

Returning to some normality after the Covid lockdowns we've been taking a few short breaks and decided to visit Beamish Open Air Museum and stay at Beamish Hall Country House Hotel. This was our 3rd stay and again, we were not dissapointed. The hotel had recently reopened after the Covid lockdowns and the team had done an amazing job in getting everything up and running again. Everything was as expected and although they experienced a major technical problem in the kitchen it was soon sorted with only minor noticable effects on the service. Highly recommended if you are in the area particularlly if visiting the museum which is less than 5 minutes drive.

We had a lovely time at Beamish Hall Hotel, the food in the restaurant was lovely - as well as the cocktails. And it was nice to sit out the front of the building on their huge grassed area with drinks. The hotel was very clean and the room was nice, my only gripe was that the double bed was too small for a 6ft1 bloke - the bed had headboards at the bottom and top, so feet was pressed against it which made for a fairly uncomfortable sleep. Other than that, everything else was good.

What a lovely hotel in beautiful grounds. Quite stunning. The Stables Restaurant was great for our evening meal... a menu with something for everyone. Same venue for a delicious breakfast the next morning. Friendly and helpful staff too. Highly recommend!

We spent last weekend 11.07.2021-13.07.2021 at Beamish Hall ,and it was just lovely. The room was stunning, immaculately clean and spacious The service was attentive and personal. Special thanks to Debbie on reception who handled our booking and stay with professionalism and care. The food in the Stables restaurant was excellent and reasonable in price We enjoyed breakfast in our room on the first morning and I would recommend it as a real treat Breakfast in the Stables on our second morning was even better There was an event/ wedding during our stay but our room was quiet and we were not at all disturbed I will definitely return as our short stay felt like such a treat and was so relaxing Many thanks to all the staff who are obviously working so hard to maintain this level of service

Beautiful hotel in large well maintained grounds. Very comfortable bed in large, well decorated and furnished room. Hotel cannot be faulted, but service in bar and restaurant was a bit slow on this visit. But catering and hospitality industry has lost a lot of staff during lockdown and new staff need trained.

Grand entrance to a majestic building but didn't live up to expectation, our room no. 1 was small down a narrow corridor - no grandeur here. Very creaky bed, disturbed sleep every time my husband or I moved! Television too small for the position of the bed, some lovely old furniture but I think I would invest in new beds.very Low uncomfortable chair No safe, no iron, hotel doesn't warrant 4 star! A plus was the staff and the stables restaurant where we had a steak dinner and wine, everything tasted delicious, the wine offered on the deal was good, the staff couldn't do enough. All in all a good stay spoiled by the bed - not 4 star quality.

We'd booked 2 nights in a de luxe room and were allocated room 111 which overlooks the car park. It has the usual heavy traditional furniture which suits the style of the hotel. However, the room was small compared to others shown on this website for de luxe rooms so this was a disappointment. Also it only had one bedroom chair so I asked for another one which was provided. I realise hotels have been badly affected by COVID but would suggest that they upgrade their bedroom chairs as they are uncomfortable and rickety. Despite that, the room and bathroom were clean, the bed very comfy and we had plenty of hot water. We ate in the restaurant during our stay. The food was fine just your typical pub grub, but maybe I was expecting a more fine-dining experience to match the beautiful building? Suggestion - get rid of the wooden paddles though - very unhygenic! I would say that we found the staff to be very helpful and professional both at reception and in the restaurant. Overall, it was a very enjoyable stay and we would stay there again in a bigger room.

This grand old stately manor now converted into a luxury hotel is very imposing as you drive up the entrance. Staff were very welcoming on arrival and gave us all the information we required to enjoy our stay. The room was spacious enough if a little dated. In room amenities included tea and coffee making facilities although they was a lack of sockets (only two) and no in room safe. As part of our package there was a chilled bottle of wine, a box of luxury chocolates and a soap rose left in our room. Wifi was very patchy in our room and we could not get a phone signal. The package also included a three course meal in The Stables restaurant with a good selection to choose from and only a couple of items incurred a small extra charge. The whole meal was of an excellent standard and the service was exceptional and all done with a smile. The restaurant has a beautiful outdoor seating area with heat lamps if you are feeling the cold. Breakfast was a little disappointing and a little disjointed. We were asked if we would like tea or coffee and toast, this arrived promptly and we were asked what hot dish we would like. Our Omelette arrived and we were again asked if we would like toast and a top up of our drinks unfortunately it was another twenty minutes before our tea and toast finally arrived. Not so sure if this was a mix up on our behalf or the staff behalf as we were never asked if we would like yogurt, cereal etc. After breakfast we had a leisurely stroll around the beautiful grounds. All in all a great package with just a couple of minor glitches.

A truly beautiful hotel. From arriving and walking into the lobby….The room was amazing. Wine and chocolates on arrival. The staff were so helpful and welcoming. Dinner and cocktails in the stables was absolutely delightful.

On arrival we were quite impressed with the look of the hotel and grounds.Booked 2 rooms for 2 nights. As my wife and I was going surprise our friends and pay for their stay I went to check us all in believing we would be paying when we left as I was not asked to pay anything. The lady on reception said she needed to speak to our friends as well, shock horror, she asked my friends to pay up front totally spoiling their surprise. Our room had not been cleaned properly i.e. tea stains on wall, bathroom floor looked like it was cleaned with a dirty mop. Furniture was shabby and the room needed a good paint. Some of the hallway carpets were badly stained. We have stayed in better 3 star hotels. We did use the Stables resturant for breakfast and an evening meal which was fine, although a little pricey. The staff at the Stables were all very nice and friendly. I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone and certainly not worth the price.

Very disappointed with restaurant staff and standard of breakfast, after complaining about rude staff I feel my family and I were labelled as troublesome, therefore breakfast was an ordeal. I would not stay at this venue again.

Stayed here for 4 nights arriving Sunday 6 June 2021. We got room 114, I think, which was fine. View was only an internal courtyard, but bed was massive and comfortable. Nice bathroom with bath and separate shower. Loads of hot water. Staff generally helpful and friendly. Beautiful grounds. Very good breakfast in Stables Bar.

The hotel is stunning & the grounds endless & immaculate. My partner & I arrived on bikes & staff were very accommodating in finding a secure place for our bikes overnight. Rooms were gorgeos & we had a very nice meal in the restaurant that evening. We were surprised to be told we could only have a 7.30am or 9.45am slot for breakfast the next day.....it hadn't occurred to us that we would need to book breakfast, given it was prebooked. A small thing, but there was no muesli or granola & the croisant arrived at the table micowaved in a sealed plastic bag, as if straight from a supermarket. The French would be appalled! A hotel of this calibre should offer better. It unfortunately left a disappointing last impression.

Arrived and was impressed, when 1st arrived there was an issue but very quickly sorted … staff all friendly and extremely helpful … room nice and spacious, clean and tidy… bathroom excellent size setting absolutely amazing ….grounds very picturesque…

Lovely hotel and we were lucky to be allocated Lily room which someone had rated on this site. It was gorgeous. Lovely and clean and good COVID strategies in place. Eg key presented in a plastic bag and menus in stable restaurant being single use. Only niggle was I saw they did gluten free onion rings but my steak didn't arrive with any. Was informed when I questioned this that no gf flour.

My partner and I got married at Beamish Hall and everything exceeded our expectations. All of the staff were accommodating and friendly. We stayed in the Iris suit for two nights, the suite was beautiful and we will definitely be back to celebrate our anniversary. We had food and drinks in the Stables bar and restaurant the night before the wedding and again all of the staff were amazing, plus the food and cocktails were great.

Once again, our visit to stay at Beamish Hall Hotel was an absolute pleasure. This will be the third time I have taken over 30 people to this beautiful property to allow us to visit Beamish Museum next door. I cannot speak highly enough of the friendly staff and quality of the rooms and food. Julie and Debbie, who are always there for me at the end of the phone, are superb ambassadors for Beamish Hall. The friendliness of Julie, Debbie and all of the staff at the hotel, along with the beautiful property and grounds is what brings us all back year after year. Well done to all.

Recently stayed at the hotel and would highly recommend it. The grounds and setting are beautiful and the building is a superb example of a country hall. The interior has many period features and is well maintained. The room was clean and had everything we needed. We were very impressed with the staff that we met and would definitely stay again if we were visiting the area.

Upon arrival at Beamish Country House Hotel we were met with a beautiful setting. The courtyard restaurant is undoubtedly beautiful to look at but unfortunately the service fell way short of the surroundings. Getting a coffee was a mammoth task and on the third attempt we managed to get some drinks. Most staff would look anywhere but at me and the unhelpful attitude was hugely disappointing on such a glorious day!!

Excellent stay Immaculatley clean Very pieceful. Great wedding venue Stayed in room 105 Also have the stable bar which is open all day where you can also get a coffee. I will be staying again Very recommend . I will say the owner of this building has Preserved and maintained the building very well. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Finally managed to stay after booking a Black Friday offer back in November. The offer had been extended twice because of lockdowns but it was worth the wait. Staff were really helpful when booking - calling twice to rearrange. Excellent stay - clean rooms and a comfy bed. We only stayed one night but it felt like a real treat. COVID measures were taken to make a safe stay. We also got a meal at the Stables Restaurant which I will review separately.

Housekeeping needs looking at and also the bar staff as they stopped serving drinks outside in the sunshine without informing guests and wanted us inside which I thought went against Covid if at all possible

We booked a deluxe twin room for a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 year old twins, having been advised this room would be more than big enough. If you enjoy a game of "the floor is lava" then this room is perfect ha ha...what i mean by that is was no floor space it was taken up with beds. Perfect for 2 year olds - not!. If the room doesnt get you then the restaurant will, we booked a table for the four of us at 5.30pm. As most people with toddlers you would expect a couple of high chairs at the pre-booked table - we were given a table for 4 adults and my toddlers climbed up on the "big chairs" whilst we waited for the high chairs - in the mean time we were told to leave as the toddlers were being rowdy. We were in less than 2 mins, i have never felt so embarrassed as they were not running around, i admit they were excited to be in a new environment - hell we are were. Anyway it looks like our little family did not fit the bill for this "family friendly" (ha ha ha ) hotel. The only positive point would be that the grass out the front of the hotel was a lovely for the twins to run around. Other than that the post stay customer service has been a joke. Not sure if this is because the hotel is now a best western or if people just dont care any more.

Lovely hotel in great setting with well maintained grounds. Period style decor and room was excellent. Staff very helpful and attentive to our needs. Reasonably priced. Quality of food was very good and meals well presented.

We rearranged our visit four times due to COVID and we were delighted that we had stuck with our plans as the visit was a real treat. The history of the hotel is fascinating and the grounds are stunning. The bedroom retained its charm by being clean and modern in a more traditional way. The Stables restaurant is full of character and the food is typically pub style but plentiful. All the staff are friendly, polite and attentive.

This was a much anticipated weekend away which had been rearranged due to Covid. I was expecting a really high quality looking hotel however the room was disappointing. Small and old fashioned ,dated furniture. The shower had no water pressure . Poor / non existent WiFi . The room and carpets around the hotel needed changing. We only went to our room from reception and out to the Stables restaurant. The hotel is dated . Can't fault the restaurant. Lovely Food and staff . We should have stayed at the hotel the second night for a meal due to our meal at the black horse up the road being disappointing. A note if you do book to go to The Black horse we ended up walking up the hill 1 mile due to the taxi not being available

Beautiful building excellent service amazing grounds. Food very nice with plenty of choice. Great real ale and plenty of drink choices. Stables restaurant accessible from the hotel with loads of character

Took daughter and 3 grandkids to the wonderland walk. It was pouring with rain but it did not dampen the fun. Lovely walk they all loved the Alice themed attractions. Very covid aware we all felt safe. Oh and good fun jumping in the puddles. Good parking and well sign posted.

We came for the wonderland walk and had a fabulous day. 1st time we've ever been and definitely be back to have a go in the unavailable areas The walk is Alice in wonderland theme and they attention to detail and time spent on it is clear. There's so much to look at and activities to do. Plenty of sanitiser available as well and all socially distanced Afterwards we played on the green for a while before having lunch in the stables (pre book if you can) and then played some more on the field next to the car park There's a play park and ropes area but they're closed at the moment but even without them. You could easily stay the whole day Plenty spaces for everyone to park and free. When leaving I noticed a public footpath across the way where people could walk their dogs but dogs aren't allowed inside the woodland walk

We actually ended up with a refund of around £80 due to the disappointing stay that we had at Beamish Hall. I had booked the Lily feature room as we were very recently engaged as well as my partners 30th birthday. I ordered Prosecco for the room pre-arrival, breakfast and booked dinner at the restaurant for the evening of our arrival. When we arrived, we waited around 10-15 minutes to be checked in. When we finally got to our room, the room was nice, although didnt look anything like the photos on the website and certainly not worth the £266 I was paying for the night. One of the windows had a giant crack and needed to be replaced, the room was freezing cold upon arrival and had to request the heating was switched on. There was a lot of dust on the window ledge (could sit on the window ledge). The room had furniture missing, which seemed odd and as I had explained the reason for the stay, therefore asking to make it as special as possible - we were treated quite poorly. We called down for some soft drinks and snacks around 9/10pm and was told we could get coca cola but no snacks as they didn't do any or any kind of room service - which also seemed odd? When the drinks did arrive, they were very flat! Upon check out, we were asked how our stay was and my fiancée was honest and explained how disappointed we both were - the receptionist was apologetic and gave me a £70 refund. Unfortunately, receiving the refund still didn't make us feel any better, the disappointment was already upon us. Sadly, my fiancées 30th and our engagement wasn't ideal at Beamish Hall Hotel. Unsure if we'll return, certainly not at that price in such a poor room with poor service.

Arrived for lunch at the stables which was amazing. Hotel is beautiful and the room equally, internet was a bit hit and miss for strength and connectivity. One disappointment was the drains in the bathroom blocking on two occasions. Once causing water to flood out of the toilet when the bath was emptying for some more cold water. Unable to use the gorgeous shower as the water didn't drain away. Breakfast was at the stables restaurant; this was very nice and the staff were very good. Despite this disappointment my wife and I enjoyed our time here and would look forward to coming back (hopefully without the issues).

Thank you to all the staff for such a welcoming & warm stay, everyone has a true passion for Beamish Hall & their job, nothing was too much trouble and all were more than accommodating. Welldone Beamish Hall! What a great idea to be able to come up with a socially distanced event and allow us to have a little something to look forward to in these uncertain times. We had an amazing evening! Great value for money and very well organised! It was so emotional at the end when everyone showed their appreciation in the form of beeping and flashing! Myself & my partner decided to stay overnight on one of the packages the website offers as most of our holidays had been cancelled this year. Beamish Hall is a little gem of a place located just off the motorway really easy to find & very near to the Beamish Open Air Museum. With a very warm welcome from Debbie we cannot fault the staff, cleanliness and food will definately return well done to all especially with the Covid precautions in place.

Booked the date night deal for our 10th wedding anniversary and we loved it. Wine and chocolates in room are a lovely touch. Had no signal or WiFi in the room but it wasn't too bad being cut off from the world for a while. Evening meal and breakfast in the stables was fantastic. Will definitely be back!

we were treated as royalty, nothing was to much , staff very friendly ,hygiene top of the class wonderful stay. grounds were lovely well kept, wonderful display of flowers and plants, the stables for dining was fantastic, would recommend everyone visit, treated with kindness chef world class.

The hotel itself is lovely, but our room was very tired and on reflection we should have asked for a better room. However the bed was very comfy and the bathroom pleasant. We were very impressed with the Covid measures that were put in place and felt entirely safe. What made our stay was the staff in the restaurant, what a lovely helpful bunch of people. The food was excellent too and we will be back even if we don't stay in the hotel.

We stayed here after it reopended due to covid. It was quiet simply perfect. The room which we stayed in was enormous and the bathroom was equally as big and amazing. The hotel room was lovely and clean and all staff were following COVID social distant rules and all wearing mask as were the guest. Would highly recommend.

Really grubby My room had toe nail clippings on the carpet,I moved the chair so I could watch the TV and saw a spiders web the size of a dinner plate ,also when I moved the chair the back fell off it Looks nice building but would not go again

A lovely , welcoming hotel which has retained many of the buildings original features..We stayed in room 101 , ....a large , comfortable and very clean room. The food was very good value and the breakfast was excellent. The staff throughout were great.....a difficult job at the best of times made considerably harder due to the current restrictions....the service was superb from reception staff to restaurant staff. I would happily stay again if returning to the area.

We loved this hotel. It was everything that you expect from this class of hotel even in these difficult times. Very covid aware but retaining a certain ambience. The breakfast at the Stables was second to none and the evening meals reasonably priced with a good choice of drinks. I only wish i lived closer. I would be a regular here.

I booked a night away for me and my husband after let's face it a pretty tough 6 mths. We didn't get to celebrate his 40th as planned mid year or our wedding anniversary due to Covid19 and to top it off my husband lost his beloved mother. I contacted Beamish Hall cos email and got a lovely lady called Lauren who looked after me and informed me of a great deal called "Date Night" it was a 1 nigjt stay with a 3 course evening meal in The stables. Wine chocolates and a rose in the room on arrival and breakfast in the morning. I upgraded to premier room which was out of this world. Upon arrival it was clear all covid related protocol was being followed and although our new normal is very strange and unsettling they made it very easy and stress free to check in. Our room was beautiful and very relaxing. My husband was blow away at how beautiful it was. We had a huge room with plenty of space and a double Jacuzzi bath and walk in shower. The meal on the nigjt was delicious and all served in a timely manner by a lover bunch of waiting staff. Finished off with a few cocktails. Our night sleep was great very comfortable and quiet and breakfastbthe next day was outstanding. We will definatly be booking again

Booked this as a night away for my partners birthday on a recommendation and I would 100% recommend to others. We had a premier room which overlooked the front entrance of the hall. The bed was one of the best I have ever slept in, you sank into it and didn't want to move. One of the things that had us book a premier room was the double jacuzzi bath which was a perfect way to relax.The staff were incredible and professional, nothing was too much for them. Upon reaching Beamish Hall my partner chose to inform me he had forgotten to pack his toiletries and iron his shirt, so we rang down to reception and within 5 minutes there was a polite gentleman at our door with an iron, ironing board and toiletry set. The cleanliness levels were obvious, especially in the current climate and we could not fault it. We will definitely be visiting again, and hopefully soon.

We where wanting to visit Beamish Museum. Discovered hotel while browsing the internet. Such a shame we had to visit while Covid restriction was in place. This hotel was very pretty. Clean rooms great service. Lovely setting. Will visit again.

Whether it is due to the pandemic or hotel unsure. Staff are friendly and helpful and happy to help which is great. Our room was pokey but changed without any problems but they are small for a delux room, there is very little space in the bathroom for any toiletries I would rather not have to put the round the bath. The rooms are rather noisy as you can hear the next door tv without a problem. We could hear the adverts and the programmes. The beds are very soft and suspect the mattress are not turned regularly. Hallway lights are on all the time with no dimming with lights the room up through the night. If you like a dark room you will need to cover the door. The stables has lovely food but not breakfast. Avoid the scrambled egg as it has an odd taste, the toast is soggy as not brought on a rack to allow the steam to escape. Signage is required in the stables in relation to ventilation you will need a jacket with the doors staying open. We have stayed in much nicer 4 and 5 star hotels. But it is all down to personal taste and you much also make up your own mind whether this hotel is for you.

Booked a 2 night stay to visit beamish Museum, which is a 2 min drive away. If you were fairly fit you could walk. Ok, so the hotel. Set in beautiful grounds. Our room. We stayed in 212. No view but we were not in the hotel room long enough, so that was ok. Bathroom was huge with a bath and separate shower. There was a bit of a musty smell when we first went in but it wasn't there all the time. The bed is huge and far too comfy! Plenty of tea and coffee. Spotlessly clean. Breakfast. Plenty of choice and delicious food. Evening meal in the stables was delicious too. To say we are in the middle of a pandemic the staff go above and beyond without spoiling your stay. They are the most polite,hard working people and they made our stay exceptional. I will, hopefully, be staying here again. I could not fault it whatsoever. Well done!

stayed for a couple of nights last week, overall had a great stay staff were friendly and helpful and food was great , if i stayed again i would probably upgrade from a Classic room as it was just a bit too small

Wine, rose and chocolates in the room was the start of a lovely stay. An evening of food and wine in the restaurant was excellent, the choice and portions were plenty, catered for all tastes and were served by friendly and professional staff.

Very impressive from the outside but not very helpful staff, checked in just after 4pm and was given the choice of only two time slots in the morning for breakfast, 7am or 9:45 was not informed that we had to book a breakfast slot. Bed far too soft, woke up with a bad back ache after only one night and no plug by the bed to charge your phone. No information in the room about room service or about the bar/restaurant. View from room terrible. Breakfast was ok but nothing special. Beautiful manor house and the surrounding grounds. The waiting staff in the restaurant where friendly and helpful.

We stayed on a Saturday night and chose a delux double room which was slightly discounted and we were absolutely delighted with the spacious two-windowed room we received, with a pretty view over the stables courtyard (see picture). On arriving at the Hall, Debbie on reception recognised is from the past and was a perfect introduction to our stay, with nice authentic chats. Our room (219) was very spacious, with a sofa, dressing table, console table and two wardrobes and the bed was very good size. The two sash windows were really nice to open for fresh air as it was a warm September day/evening. We dined and drank in the Stables restaurant on the evening, which was excellent (see other review). We will certainly be back. Thanks again to the staff for a truly lovely COVID safe and grand stay.

We love the ambience of this venue, the Stables courtyard on a sunny day is unbeatable. Sadly the quality of the service and the food has fallen terribly. Our party sat outside as instructed by the signs to await table service. After 15 minutes I went in to get served only to see five staff members hanging around the bar! We ordered Sunday lunch and it was very disappointing. In the last 12 months standards have fallen off the cliff here. Hopefully it'll pick back up again but we won't be rushing back.

The hotel and grounds are beautiful. We had a lovely room and the bed was so comfortable we awoke relaxed andvrefreshed. The staff went over and above to make sure our stay was wonderful. The restaurant food was fantastic and and we will definately be back.

Hotel and grounds lovely and would recommend again. We were a family of 4 with two children under 10 who loved the tree swings. The only issues were breakfast is expensive as they charge the same price for everyone and you don't get much for what you pay for. The other problem was that we couldn't eat in the restaurant the first night as it was fully booked due to the Eat Out to Help Out. It was obviously booked up by non guests booking the tables in advance. It left hotel guests having to drive out elsewhere for dinner. Not very good when you book into a hotel only to be told you cannot eat there! Overall thought it is a lovely place to spend a couple of nights.

Booked in on a two-night Wine & Dine package. First impressions an impressive building and grounds well maintained. Check in was quick and easy. Our package was based on a classic room, we'd opted to upgrade to a deluxe which turned out to be nothing special. Service in the restaurant appeared to be chaotic, but the meal was first class, when it arrived. Staff were apologetic blaming the governments “Eat Out” scheme for being as busy, maybe that's why they forgot our complementary bottle of wine! The resident's lounge was closed, so only the choice of sitting outside or at reception, which was a good couple of hundred yards from the only open bar. Booking breakfast for our second morning turned out to be a stressful experience. Apparently, there wasn't enough available time slots to accommodate all residents. However, we were offered the option of having our cooked breakfast served in our room, with the £3 per head room service subsidy being waved. After perseverance we were eventually found a slot. Checkout was a swift affair, mainly because the receptionist was more intent with continuing her conversation with a co-worker, none of the expected pleasantry's like, “Did you enjoy your stay? “were exchanged. In conclusion Beamish hall is a majestic location and building, our room was clean and adequately furnished, but missing the “Wow factor”. More focus directed towards residencies than casual trade in their restaurant would go a long way to enhance the experience.

Spent a lovely night here with good friends. Lovely surroundings inside, woodland walks and a garden centre in the grounds. Great food and wine in The Stables and everything felt very safe. I would definitely recommend! x

Wonderful stay made even better by the twenty five per cent discount on the entry to museum provided by the hotel. The hotel service and staff were excellent. Rooms are specious and well furnished and the location is an ideal base for the museum and for visiting the many places of interest round about

We stayed in the Iris suit absolutely beautiful and as usual the champagne on ice was ready for us arriving. The overall ambiance has got even better with the gardens and feature rooms being upgraded. Service as usual was top drawer and cannot be faulted and all staff went out of their way to make our stay a fantastic experience.

The staff on reception were first rate. We couldn't get into the stables for a drink only for food, it was raining heavy and no where to sit under cover, the lovely staff on reception went the extra mile got us a place to sit where one of the staff brought us drinks what was a bad start ended up as a lovely stay. We ate on the evening food was lovely as was the breakfast w, e called into the garden centre girl was lovely bought a very unusual plant and an outdoor antique very quirky stuff and a lovely fairy garden a massive thank you to the girls on the reception and to the guy who served us xxxx

My friends and I had a lovely overnight stay at Beamish Hall Hotel. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and the food was good (I particularly liked the breakfast - and not because it was complimentary). I will definitely consider going back some time in the future.

overall a lovely stay, grounds lovely for an evening stroll and a very nice courtyard for evening drinks. Room shows age of building as little tired and worn but spacious and well equipped. Lift was broken so had to climb 4 flights of steep stairs with luggage..Food was wonderful in the restaurant would return but would ask for a more modern/ newly decorated room.

Room was amazing, clean and comfortable, we have stayed here a few times and always had a lovely experience however this time we were very disappointed with the service and quality of the food in The Stables Restaurant, we waited at least 30 mins to be served, I had to go and ask if they would take our order, waited ages for the meal which was not their normal standard, breakfast was the same, scrambled eggs looked as if they had been done in the microwave

The hotel is set in beautiful surroundings, which are maintained to an excellent standard. The hotel also has it's own garden centre. It is also a good base to explore Durham & other beautiful places & being close to the famouse Beamish museum. All of the staff were very friendly, professional and helpful, nothing was to much trouble, even though they must be working under very different & sometimes difficult conditions due to the current Covid19 situation. The hotel is tastefully decorated with lovely period furnishings sympathetic to it's era, rooms were light & airy with stunning views. Good facilities. Lovely powerful shower. The stables restaurant serves excellent quality food, reasonably priced. Good choice of drinks. Lovely courtyard. Social distancing & related health & safety carried out effectively. The rooms had minimal information in them, although there is an info card. We didn't see the info regarding having the room cleaned. One has to hang your preferred instructions on outside of the door. (Maybe this could be highlighted) My mattress on the twin bed kept migrating to the left! This is probably due to a modern mattress on an antique bed.It didn't detract from the comfortable sleep, these were minor irritations. We would certainly return for another stay there.

As we arrived at Beamish Hall I was firstly wowed by the exterior, the grounds are maintained very well and the hall it's self looks fantastic, As you make your way to reception you are greeted by some of the friendliest staff in the hospitality industry, check in was a quick process and we was soon on our way to our room, Our room was number 102 and once again as we opened the door to our room we was wowed, the room looked beautiful and so spacious, the addition of the jacuzzi bath really put the finishing touch onto the room. I recommend the hotel to everyone!

We stay here regularly and have a couple more trips arranged already. We had a lovely meal in the stables for my wife's birthday with very attentive staff. However, when we got back to our room and my wife wanted to use the jacuzzi bath she was very disappointed to find black slime/scum coming out when the jacuzzi was switched on. This was a seriously disappointing end to her special day and one I would have to say is very much out of character.

Our first stay at this hotel and the first since covid 19. The hotel is absolutely stunning, the room was incredible & all the staff were lovely. They had plenty of hand sanitiser available, all staff wore masks and the hotel felt safe and clean The only issue was the wifi which wasn't very easy to connect too but we Only needed it to video call our son which wasn't a big problem Thank you for a wonderful stay, we cannot wait for our next visit

We stayed here 5 nights at the end of July 2020 and had the smallest room they offer which suited us as a base. No fridge in the room but the bar staff in the Stables Bar were happy to chill any drinks we had in the bar fridge and also let us take ice cubes back to the room. Very clean room including the en suite and we had a comfortable stay. The breakfasts are very nice and a variety of cooked breakfasts are available including poached eggs and kippers. The Stables Bar does very nice food and we ate there 3 nights. I would advise book direct rather than through Booking.Com etc - you should get a better deal.

Nice hotel but pictures advertised are not the rolms you get. We was given a much older room. Had no hot water all night at all .. complained twice and was told they forgot to put the immersion heater on!!!!had to boil kettle around 10 times to get a hot bath. Water pressure so slow took an hour to fill bath with tepid water!!! Wont be staying again!!!

We enjoyed the stay at this hotel. Our room was probably one of the more old fashioned rooms in comparison to what is shown on the television monitor advertising the hotel stay. The breakfast was nice and the evening meals with complimentary wine were really good. I would recommend staying at this hotel if you want to visit Beamish as it is just up the road.

Beamish hall have refused to refund £200 for 4 rooms that were booked for a wedding today they have moved the rooms to 2021 without any discussion with me they are rude in emails in response to requesting refund and do not return phone calls. They have a no cancellation policy which I understand but I have not cancelled they have despite telling them I have taken legal advice and they should refund the deposits but they have still refused to provide me a refund.

We had the most amazing 2 days for our wedding. Both us and our family and friends were ober the moon with the effort put in to our stay from all the staff involved. We can not thank the staff enough. Highly recommend.

Great hotel with lovely staff.....the gardens need some tlc and atd but what a building ....very elegant this large historic building is outstanding architecturally and with just a little hard work in the garden this could become one of the top places to stay in the NE

Fabulous old property with interesting architecture and internal decor. We were attending a friends wedding and staying over for the night. The room for the wedding ceremony was ornate but the accoustics were terrible and we couldn't hear or understand what anyone was saying. There was no PA system and if there was it would have made things worse. They really should do something about the acoustics in this room. Acoustic panels and some heavy drapes at the windows would help. The other problem was the seating that was provided, it was the most uncomfortable chairs with very small seat area and very straight backs. These same chairs were used in the wedding breakfast dining room and the same room was used for the evening entertainment. So by the end of the evening you will have had a most uncomfortable day on these seats. Not satisfactory for a place like this that is supposed to be a quality venue for weddings. The staff were pleasant and efficient and the bedroom we had was fine with old fashioned furniture and bed. But for the £135 we were charged (without breakfast) it wasn't good value at all and I wouldn't stay there again at that price.

My husband and I were gifted a stay here for a joint birthday present, the staff were so helpful, the restaurant the stables was amazing, food was exceptional. We stayed in room 2 which was just gorgeous, I should have asked for a duvet, as the blankets were sparce. We also had a visitor in the room in the form of a ghost. I cant explain it, but there was definitely a ghost with us. Please dont be put off by this, I love beamish hall and give it definite 5 stars. *****

Thought it might be a historic building modernised to the extent that it kinda loses it character. But it wasn't, great compromise between modernity and history, bedroom especially, love the tapestry type stuff and olde worlde furnishings. Staff really friendly and hardworking, dinner lovely and tasty and I was asked on checkout it I enjoyed my stay, which might not be a big deal to some but means a lot to me; so many hotels of this price don't bother. Finally the ghost tour was brilliant, although tbh I've known Graham from Chillingham Castle, their loss is your gain. He not only unearths the amazing history but seems to attract the spirits too and his warmth, personality and passion is terrific.

We have just returned from our third trip to Beamish Hall, we cannot fault this place at all!! We stay in a premiere room with double jacuzzi which is just a delight and room102 has had a slight makeover this time and is just gorgeous! We love the Sunday roast in the Stables, so much choice and so much food!! The sticky toffee pudding is also to die for! The breakfast was perfect, we ordered it in the room for both mornings and with just a £3 tray charge, is just perfect to sit looking out onto the grounds! We were lucky enough to have snow whilst we visited and it looked amazing, certainly didn't put us off walking to Beamish Museum (our car wouldn't make it up the hill ) there are so many lovely walks from the hotel too!! The old train track opposite the entrance is a great walk too but must say, walking boots or wellies are a must! Finally all of the staff are so friendly and can't do enough for you!! So thankyou Beamish Hall for another great stay and we will definitely be back in the near future!!

Lovely setting Lovely hotel Superb breakfast. Excellent facilities but mattress slopes towards window and mobile phones were useless. The hotel is an easy ride from the motorway in beautifull countryside. Despite the ifffy mattress we will return when next in the Northeast.

I stayed at the hotel During February half term and had such a lovely stay. The lady on reception (Debbie) was very welcoming especially with regards to my young daughter. The food we had in the stables and service we received was excellent as was the breakfast. It's also fantastic that you are able to cater for vegans. My only slight niggle is that the shampoo/shower gel are in mini bottles and it would be better to have ones that are refillable so that it doesn't waste as much plastic. We will definitely be back.

We stayed here the day before valentines day it was a lovely night. The room was clean and lots of amenities =) the bath was quite big aswell. The staff were really friendly too. I would recommend this place

We last had afternoon tea here about six months ago and were really disappointed and even complained. People that care about their customers obviously love to hear when things are great but equally they need to know when something has gone wrong so it can be out right. Many thanks to Suzanne and her team for restoring our faith in this beautiful hotel that holds very dear memories for us as our daughter and son-in-law held their wedding reception here. Afternoon tea was just perfect from start to finish. The food is always amazing here but today's chef had a very light touch to the scones and all the beautifully decorated cakes and trifle which all looked amazing and tasted delicious. The service was excellent and exactly what we expect and usually receive when we visit this hotel and even though they were very busy today it certainly looked like everyone was well looked after. We would highly recommend afternoon tea here for anyone looking for something a bit extra special.

We stayed for 1 night while attending the winter festival we booked a deluxe double room (room212 )but felt disappointed as itdidned feel deluxe. We had no view from the window and there was a low beam in the bathroom with no warning about it so had to duck overtime I went to use the loo..we could here next doors plumbing all night and the bed even though it was very comfy was very squeaky. The winter festival started very well good music and the DJ playing decent tracks .. but the last 3 hours he played none stop rave music..and the bands later on were a bit poor..so we ended up going to bed well before it finished. Overall we did enjoy our stay the staff were very friendly and helpful. And we might come back next year if they sack that dj...

Our daughter bought us an overnight stay with dinner at this hotel. Our room had old fashioned wooden sash windows in keeping with the age and character of the Hall but unfortunately ours rattled loudly all night due to strong winds. We found the hotel to be comfortable with lots of character, unfortunately we did not see any of the ghosts which are reputed to haunt this old property! We had dinner in the Stables restaurant, the helpings were generous although we both felt that the roast meat could have been more tender. Breakfast was not included in the deal so I opted for the cooked breakfast which, at £12.50 was rather disappointing in terms of what was provided on the plate. My wife had the continental breakfast and there was plenty of choice of cereal and fruit etc. All the members of staff were very pleasant and helpful.

Really looked forward to the Winter Festival after a great time last year, however, we were really disappointed. The choice of drinks was great however the music was not. Last year we had enjoyed the disco in the main hall. Sadly this year the DJ favoured dance/ rave music for a solid 3 hours! We aren't adverse to dance music at all but it was just too much. People were dancing but to be fair most were probably that drunk they would have danced to anything! The bands towards the end of the evening weren't the best so we were just wandering about or stuck in the mini rave. Really spoilt it for us and don't think we would return next year

Stayed 1 night for the recent winter music festival. Room was comfortable and practical but no view, just a brick wall and cooler/extractor fan outside the window. Service from hotel staff was efficient and professional and breakfast was very good. Great choice of drinks provided for the festival but more seats could have been provided, only a few hay bales which was a bit odd. The music was poor however which was a disappointment as I usually love live music. We only enjoyed one act (Yuma). Otherwise it was a pleasant stay.

My daughter had her wedding reception here, so a large group of family and friends stopped here for the night, my wife and I decided to stop another night. What can I say the staff were so helpful with the preparations, and helped her through every step. The food was fantastic, great bar with a good selection of drinks. The rooms were beautiful and had great views looking out over the countryside. Breakfast was lovely, no rush and relaxing, can't fault the place, a return visit will be needed very soon

Overnight stay while attending a family wedding. Lovely venue for such a special occasion. Rooms are individual and there was no noise from the wedding function filtering to corridors or our room. Would definitely stay again.

Our first time visiting Durham and so happy we chose Beamish Hall.A beautiful building with lots of history and fabulous grounds.Stayed in a classic room which was spotlessly clean with a comfortable bed and crisp white linen...best of all a window seat!! Breakfast was superb and food atthe stables restaurant was also good quality and reasonably priced too. Lots to see and do in this lovely part of the North .

My partner and myself attended the afternoon tea with the showing of the film calamity Jane, the afternoon tea was lovely staff very attentive, we stayed the night in the hotel our 4th stay at this beautiful hotel in lovely grounds, exactly service from start to finish, we will certainly return

We stayed at Beamish Hall hotel 18/01/2020, the hotel/hall itself is beautiful and a beautiful setting. We paid for the Iris suit as this was a special occasion, the last weekend away as a couple before we become a 3. The room itself was wonderful, as was the bathroom. The only downfall was the plumbing, it was extremely noisy, like there was some sort of pump expelling the water. Also the corridor to the Eden room was very noisy.

The place looked tired and neglected. Booked a stay in a deluxe room for New Years Eve and was hugely let down. The noise was crazy from adjacent rooms and at one point i could literally hear someone on the toilet next door. There was also a service yard / area below our window and the housekeeping services were very close by. The bathroom had a low hanging beam on direct entry which was difficult to see because of the white tiles (no signage) and the mould around the windows next to the bath was disgusting. Breakfast was good but took ages to arrive. The fireworks display was good although the £25 entry fee for the stables bar was not good value. I have since had email contact with 2 senior members of staff about this with no resolution or care given even though they completed a full audit of the room and agreed with most of my points. A fantastic family evening at the Beamish Hall New Year's Eve Carnival. We went as a family of four. We joined a table of another three couples, everyone mingled and made it a great evening. On arrival we were greeted by fire eaters and stilt walkers. There was a champagne reception and canapés. A singer and carnival acts performed. The food was great. Great atmosphere. Music and dancing. Fireworks at midnight then everyone came together for Auld Lang Syne. It was lovely, something different to traditional hotel disco and party nights. Hope they do it again next year!

Beamish Hall is a lovely place to stay, set in superb grounds, Has that lovely old feel about it (windows could do with updating though). Ideal place to stay if you are visiting Beamish Museum, which is only a short walk down the road. Ideal place to stay too for visiting Newcastle.

Visited here for a weekend away to a function, super slick check in at reception, beautiful room with stunning views. We were waited on/served by first class staff throughout our stay. Highly recommend this hotel. Breakfast was one of the best we have had with a huge selection, the waitress staff were extremely hospitable & very pleasant. No complaints at all.

This is the second time we have been to a party in the Winter Garden room. Had a fabulous meal (I had the salmon main and hubby had the beef) the waiting staff were well organised and friendly. We really appreciated the list of drinks on the bar which were on special offer - double gin and a bottled tonic for £6.50 was a really good deal. The function room was beautifully decorated again and our breakfast the next day was just what the doctor ordered. Hotel room lovely and clean with big thick fluffy white towels. Well done to everyone beamish hall - cracking job

The hotel was absolutely fabulous start to finish. We were greeted very warmly into the lovely reception area with a real log coal fire by Elaine and Julie. We then went into our gorgeous room "The Lily". Oh my goodness it was just beautiful. A single roll top bath, the most unbelievably soft bed, gorgeous furniture and all over looking the lawn and grounds. Glass bottled water still and sparkling with Ringtons cookies awaited us. The ti=oiletries were lovely. x2 dressing robes. I asked for a champagne bucket and x2 flutes and nothing was a bother. We even managed to get room service and it was a busy New Years eve afternoon. The carnival celebration was out of this world. The food was phenomenal. We had a champagne reception. The entertainment was acrobats, fire breathers, stilt walkers and magicians. The tables were beautifully decorated. I can't say enough how superb the food was. Then just before midnight there was a choice of whisky or warm mulled wine to take outside whilst watching the fireworks which were unreal. They went on for 7 minutes. For all that we got I can't believe how cheap the tickets were and we are already itching to come back next NYE. The breakfast the following morning was divine. Cooked and continental. All served by lovely warm smiley staff who just made you feel so special. They are an asset to the Hall. Overall a fantastic 10 out of 10 day night and following morning and can't thank the staff enough for making it the most perfect New Year

Wonderful carnival entertainment, excellent meal and marvellous fireworks. Couldn't ask for anything better. The whole evening was special. Very good accommodation overnight in a clean and comfortable room and an excellent breakfast the next morning. Staff all very friendly and helpful.

What a magical time at Beamish Hall Hotel for Christmas. We booked a 3 night stay to celebrate Christmas with family and were not disappointed. The drive to the front of the hotel set the standard for the whoe stay.... very impressive, the reception area was stunning as were all of the dining rooms. Our room was beautiful, plenty of storage with a very comfy bed and a lovely hot shower. Staff ere amazing and the food superb. Nothing more to say really.

We stayed here for New Year - attended the meal and entertainment. Food was excellent and service was friendly and efficient. Breakfast the next day was also very good. A magician, carnival entertainers, singer, disco and fireworks added up to a memorable evening.

Good food excellent service a perfect wedding venue. My daughter's wedding was excellent, spacious rooms everything timed to perfection. Knowledgeable helpful and polite staff and a choice of dining rooms and a ballroom.

Very old fashioned, and original,Perfect for that extra treat. A real gem . Restaurant in my opinion let it down a bit ,I expected a more reserved ritzy type ,to go with the hall. The stables isn't really a restaurant,more of a upbeat cafe,where jeans and trainers suffice.Food ok bit pricey maybe ,staff very friendly tho not really trained in the art of table service but nice enough.

Pleasantly surprised with our room which was large and spacious with a jacuzzi bath. It's clear that the rooms have been revamped and they are kept lovely and clean. Some noise due to wedding guests returning late to their rooms but all in all, a decent stay. Breakfast was freshly prepared (just small portions). Discount vouchers available for Beamish museum too-which was a nice touch.

Booked for the Santa Experience and decided to book us all into hotel night before. Really enjoyed everything. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent. Breakfast was lovely. the staff were all helpful and the building/grounds were lovely

Overall experience was excellent, was noisy until gone 1 am with people leaving Christmas parties, but otherwise could not fault the service, hotel, room, would recommend to anyone, just a mile from Beamish museum

Please note this is not a review of the Hotel but of the Magical Christmas experience. However, there is not a separate option for this. We came here for my Granddaughter who is 3 years old. I think the price is extortionate for what you are given. You go through the woods collecting dust from elves to help save Christmas. You only meet 4 elves and only 2 elves give you dust. If the group in front of you have not finished you are requested to wait until they do so you can take your turn with the next elf. Bearing in mind this is December, it's freezing cold and kids get bored easily. All you get at the end of it is to see Santa, a certificate and a very small bottle of 'magic dust' to leave for Santa on Christmas Eve to help the reindeer fly. At nearly £25 per person this is ridiculous, especially because it cost me nearly £75 just for my daughter, myself and my husband and an extra £25 on top for my 3 year old granddaughter. Far too much money for the experience given in my opinion. The child does not even receive a present from Santa and no way should the adults be charged as much just for having to be there with there children.

Beautiful surroundings with exquisite rooms and decor with the feel of a bygone era full of oppulant furnishings and paintings a must have experience that makes you feel very much like the lord and lady of the manor.

My partner and I stayed here for two nights and we had such a lovely stay. The staff were so helpful when we needed them and allowed us to store our bags before check-in so we could explore Beamish museum during the day. Our room was clean, comfortable and whilst we had one of the basic rooms, there was still such a sense of luxury about it that made it all the more special. Our room looked out from the front of the hotel and we were able to watch the sun rise from the window seat. The bathroom just had a shower but the water pressure was fantastic and there was plenty of hot water. The Stables restaurant that was attached was wonderful and I'd recommend that for dinner whilst staying here. The breakfast room was breathtaking and the food was delicious. The staff in here were also wonderful and attentive. We only had the continental brekky but we saw other guests hot brekky and it looked amazing as well! All in all a wonderful stay!

A wonderful afternoon with friends. Set in a beautifully decorated room we enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea, with a glass of bubbly to welcome us and enough food that we all took some goodies home. The Rock Choir were wonderful and would love them to come back next year.

This hotel gives you far more than accommodation and food - it gives you a wonderful experience. Teh setting is unique and stimulates the senses. Teh old building has been sympathetically re-purposed as a hotel and a lot of its original character has been retained. The staff are guest friendly adn particular praiseworthy is Paul in the Stables restaurant.

A great event in a really beautiful setting. Instructors were very knowledgeable and skilled in their field, they were also friendly and helpful. I'd recommend this event. Take your walking boots and go for a wall while you're there too!

We stayed here for one night. We done the Magical Christmas the next door. The overall experience was very good. Their was alot of noise and shouting at the hotel reception due to a party going on from 9pm. However I went to speak to someone after a couple of hours and they dealt with the situation very well and the noise had been sorted so we could get back to sleep. I dont believe this would be every night as was told was a one off party with students. I would stay again at this hotel and the surroundings are lovely and the food at the Stables restaurant is good quality and reasonably priced.

Came to the hotel for afternoon tea with liz's family very nice indeed at £19 per head far too much to eat fabulous place there was a wedding there when we where there would make a lovely spa venue will be back

Stayed here for 3 nights for a family wedding, with the wedding being on the middle day. There were 2 adults and a child in our party. We ate in the restaurant on the 1st night which was overall disappointing, all the meat was overcooked on everyone's main course (there were 5 of us in total). Also the breakfast chef can;t poach an egg, on 2 mornings I ordered poached eggs which came out hard poached. In our room, despite there being 3 of us, they persistently only left towels for 2 people, and we had to keep asking for extra one. There was a smart TV in the room which was not connected to wifi, so you couldn't use the smart features. The guest wifi was extremely slow, unusable at times, and blocked whatsapp altogether for some reason. There were 3 drinking glasses in our room when we arrived, one of which was all chipped around the rim. This could have cut someone had we not noticed it. For the profile and cost of this hotel, all these little things were extremely disappointing, as it really felt like they didn't care or think at all about their guests. We noticed one of the window panes in our room was cracked and reported it straight away. They already knew about it, and said it was like that a while. Again, the lack of any desire to fix this speaks volumes about the attitude here. Having said that, there were many good points, the wedding was excellent as was the food for that. The staff on the whole were very friendly and helpful and the room and beds were very comfortable.

A nice find for our short trip to the North East - brilliantly convenient for the Beamish Museum, obviously, and for Durham and a day trip north to Lindisfarne. Very comfortable rooms, with modern bathrooms and no squeaky floors that can plague these old country house hotels. Much money was obviously spent bringing this place up to standard. Staff were friendly and helpful too. We ate at the in-house pub style restaurant in the old stable block to the rear which was very nice despite a small choking incident (avoid the flat iron steak!). All in all a great stay and a very fair price.

We had a lovely time away at the beautiful hotel. Lovely period furniture in the rooms, a lovely bar with food available, a comfy bed and beautiful tasty breakfast in the morning. Just minutes away from Beamish Museum, but this hotel is a destination in it's own right. An amazing building that's also haunted too! Well worth a visit. We will be certainly coming back in the future!

Eight of us came here for afternoon tea and it was the festive afternoon tea. The staff were friendly and we were served fairly quickly. The afternoon tea was presented well and there was a nice selection of sweet treats. You get to choose one triple sandwich and although the sandwich was nice this is the first afternoon tea I have been to were you only get to choose one, I much prefer when you get a selection. We all left full up and got given boxes to take home what we couldn't eat!

Booked a one night stay for my husband's birthday which included afternoon tea. We had a wonderful experience from start to finish, excellent service in the Eden Room and the afternoon tea selection was fabulous and quality was excellent. Staff were so helpful and friendly, excellent service both at afternoon tea and at breakfast the next morning, again there was a lovely selection on offer both for the cooked breakfast and continental options. Our room was large and spacious, the huge double spa bath was simply heaven. The added bonus was also being able to visit the Christmas Craft market, the hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas, Christmas music playing, gave us a lovely warm seasonal feeling. I can't recommend the hotel enough, excellent customer care, beautiful clean and well equipped room, fantastic food (we also had our evening meal at the Stables - Wow). I look forward to returning again sometime for another wonderful experience.

Like the previous reviewer, we had not bought advance tickets (in view of the recently poor and unpredictable weather). When we neared, the traffic slowed and we were told that, since we didn't buy tickets in advance (which we did not know was a prerequisite) we might not be able to enter. Anyway, after a relatively short wait, we were allowed in and were lucky enough to be offered a parking pace on the matted area, rather than the (now incredibly boggy) field. Also slightly miffed that a 12 year old has to pay full adult price without any concession but more disappointed that there was not option for contactless or card payment on entry (that was our £15 cash gone immediately, and we hadn't even bought anything!) The disinterested lady on the door informed us that , "No, nowhere here accepts card payments, only cash throughout."As members of the 21st century banking system, it didn't even enter my mind that I'd need to carry a whole wadge of cash in with me. However, we decided to stay and my husband dutifully went to the Beamish Hall Bar to buy a rather over-priced (and unwanted) drink for the pure sake of getting some cashback! Meanwhile, I spoke to a lovely stall-holder in the Food Marquee, who was thoroughly fed-up due to the lack of WiFi for card payments (apparently all stall holders had the necessary equipment, just no internet access). She was finding that people were not buying from her due to their lack of cash (in this cashless society) Apparently, on the previous day people had also be turned away if they didn't have tickets due to issues with parking on the boggy field, reducing foot fall significantly. I, like many, would love to support the independent trader and small business owner and felt so sorry for her. How about creating a 'HotSpot' or dragging a WiFi router out into the food Marquee to support these traders (who have, no doubt, paid a significant amount for their place in the market)? We did then find that, in Beamish Hall itself, there were card payments and a lovely variety of stalls. We did then go on to have a lovely visit and purchased a range of goods from a range of traders. The only thing lacking inside was somewhere to buy a piece of cake or a sandwich to go with my very nice cup of coffee. We did buy hot dogs from the stall outside (far too cold and wet to eat them out there) and brought them in to eat with our drinks, but a piece of cake and a sandwich would have been a better option for me (another customer and her aunt in the coffee queue agreed with this and drew comparisons to many other local Christmas Fayres which I had not attended). Have recently moved to the NE, and usually visiting the Blenheim Christmas Fayre, I was excited to see what the Beamish Fayre would have to offer. Of course, it is smaller, and that is to be expected due to the size of the venue. However, it did many things well: the stall holders were very friendly and welcoming; the range of stalls was good; the coffee was delicious; the prices of the goods were on the whole very fair. To my mind, areas that could be improved: contactless payment throughout; better informed staff; improved parking facilities (we all know that it rains a lot up here, be prepared!); a wider range of eat-in food options; check that your stall holders are happy and not experiencing problems. I think that I might return next year. I doubt that I'll buy tickets in advance (I don't have a burning desire to attend, more a casual one), I doubt that I'll carry a wadge of cash with me (it's not the way that I do things) but I feel that it offered enough to warrant a second visit.

The Hotel . Excellent service from all the staff who made us feel very welcome. An adequate room with space and a very comfortable bed. The Stables Restaurant. We ate in the restaurant on both nights of our stay and the food was of good quality. On the first night, the maitre d' was an experienced gentleman supported by well trained and attentive staff . A totally different experience on the second night . The staff were distracted by a suited young man who seemed to spend the two hours we spent there either talking to and distracting the restaurant staff to the detriment of the quality of service or doing the same to the bar staff. Very unprofessional and disappointing. Quite what he was meant to be doing remains a mystery....

We were staying over for a wedding. Our room was very small. Compared to other guests we knew who were staying. The bed was sooooo hard. Painfully hard when I woke up next morning though I had interrupted sleep because of it. Breakfast wasn't worth the money think could do with some more choice

Stayed in the premier suite for the first time and although the cheaper option is also fantastic as we stayed in one last year, we literally felt like royalty in the premier suite, absolutely exquisite we were actually shocked at the size and decor plus the double jacuzzi and separate shower! All for 121 pound as we paid up front, so can safely say their cheapest room and most expensive are more than worth it!

I recently stayed with my partner in one of the feature suites called The Iris. Upon first impressions the drive up to Beamish Hall is magical, something you'd expect on a film. Driving up the drive and seeing the Hall standing there is something that I would come back time and time again. From the first initial push through the door, to getting our room key the check-in process was faultless. The ladies on reception were very welcoming and accommodating, giving us a run down of the local happenings and where we could dine on the night. My first impressions of The Lily was WOW. Elegance, class and what I expected from a 4* Country House all rolled in one! The room was very cosy with a french boutique style, with shabby chic furniture that gave the room life against the grey and white walls. The wardrobe was big enough for both of our clothes, as well as shoes - inside we found a hairdryer, a coffee station and bottled water. I presume this had been kept out of the way to keep a classic minimalistic feel to the suite. The bed was lovely and comfy enough to relax on it for our whole visit. The size of the bed was massive, and definitely is up there in competition for comfort out of the likes of Seaham Hall and Middleton Lodge. The bed faced the two windows which looked out on the front of the hotel, a beautiful setting when waking up in the morning. The bathroom was spacious with two luxurious robes, a cast iron stand alone bath tub, two sinks, and a fabulous double shower! The bathroom was big enough for both of us to get ready in, with out stepping on anyone toes. The towels were big, plush and felt amazing, as well as did our robes. I haven't experienced softness anywhere else and definitely beats Seaham and Ramside Hall in terms of luxury. We decided to dine elsewhere on the night, however we are frequent visitors at The Stables Restaurant and Bar and I would highly recommend the sticky toffee pudding! I usually have to share it as the portion sizes are massive. We were lucky enough to have a short lie in, and opted for a breakfast in bed room service. For £3 this is a steal compared to Seaham Hall's £10 charge! Breakfast was again impressive, with all of the trimmings you would expect on a traditional english breakfast. I requested vegetarian sausages, and was delighted to see my wishes had been granted! Our english breakfast was accompanied with toasts, pastries and NUTELLA! I haven't seen so much choice of jams and condiments. The check out process was painless and easy. I would highly recommend staying at Beamish Hall Hotel, and would definitely stay in a feature suite again!

Fireworks were fantastic. Well put together. Food and kids rides available. Fireworks to music. Very nice. Wish there would of been a bonfire though. Plenty of room to go in and sit to eat your food if wanted. Definitely be going back

We booked the hotel for a night away. The overall experience was exactly what we were looking for. Especially the staff at reception and the breakfast room went out of their way to deliver excellent service. The restaurant was very nice and the food was tasty. The bed was a bit too soft for our liking. The bath tube was a bit bashed so was the toilet and the basin. It has been repaired rather than replaced. But no real distraction from the overall experience I

My partner and I visited Beamish Hall on the first night of their fireworks display. It was an excellent display of fireworks and humorous entertainment. Walking in we were greeted by a number of food vendors ranging from your traditional hot dogs to the gorgeous Gyros van (YUM). We then had a look around the grounds to see that there were several kiddies rides to keep the young one's entertained. There were several entertainers, a guy with feathers and a drum kit - who was very entertaining and engaging with the kids. A guy who was having dance offs - this guy was hilarious and really engaged with the crowds. Two fun police who were locking people up if they didn't seem to be having a good time. I had to tell a joke and my partner had to do a little dance. Really fun and light hearted. At 7.30pm there was a countdown to the fireworks and then light hearted music was played to the fireshow display. All in all a well worth event.

Spacious room with beautiful quality bedding and towels.Warm and welcoming. We had a good nights sleep and breakfast was delightful - good choice from cooked to continental, staff very pleasant. Happily stay here again.

We had a very enjoyable stay. A beautiful old house. Nice room, it was quite small but perfectly adequate. I loved the option of bath or shower. The food in the Stables restaurant was very good and reasonably priced. The staff were all very welcoming, friendly and helpful.

Room booked was massive so was the bathroom with double bath and a large shower. food was great and a good price at the stables, all staff were efficient with a smile on their faces. Hotel spotless. Breakfast lovely. Will definitely be coming again.

My husband and I along with two friends spent a couple of nights here and were not disappointed. The hotel is beautiful and the grounds are well maintained. The stables restaurant was fantastic and the food was lovely. Staff were all very efficient and friendly too. Breakfast was also very nice and the staff on both mornings were friendly and cheerful. The rooms we had were very small with little space but were clean and comfortable. Thanks again to all the staff, we do hope to see you all again soon.

This is a beautiful location. The rooms are lovely and well appointed, The grounds are well maintained. The front desk staff is efficient. The Stables Restaurant is excellent while the breakfast room needs a tad bit of improvement.

We had to visit the north eas to see my father I. Hospital, so decided to stay overnight and visit beamish museum, we decided to stay at the beamish hall hotel..what an extremely pleasant and delightful place. The room was lovely, the stables bar and restaurant amazing and breakfast the following morning delicious. Nothing about the stay could be faulted...we will definitely return

This is a lovely hotel, very clean and well maintained. The food was good and reasonably priced. The staff cheerful and helpful. It was just such a shame that our stay was marred by being allotted a room that overlooked a graffitied caravan and the old beer kegs when the beautiful parkland was all around. Wouldnt have minded so much if the hotel was full but it appeared to be very quiet so there must have been rooms that had a better view and we felt that we had been stuffed away at the back and out of the way. It would have been much appreciated by us to see the gardens and would have made our good stay into an excellent one. Woul certainly recommend this hotel but ask for a room with a view.

A very comfortable hotel set in beautiful grounds, a real hidden treasure just a stones throw from Newcastle and Gateshead. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. The breakfast in the hotel was excellent although I did not go a bundle on their coffee. The stables restaurant was very good and very reasonably priced.

Really made to feel welcome and staff were very attentive to our needs. Beautiful building set in amazing grounds would highly recommend to everyone and me and my family will be returning again soon thanks.

Won't be staying anywhere else in Newcastle/Durham again. Wonderful picture book location, beautiful old building, staff excellent, food and drink top class. What more do you need? Oh yes, massive fluffy towels!

Have just been to the opening night of this scary adventure and what fun we had the food as ghoulish with black burger buns and red blood cheese sauce on our nachos but it all mad for the beginning of a fab night,I have to say I have never laughed and cried in equal measure there are some really scary bits and it is an obstacle course and very dark and muddy in parts but hilarious watching other peoples reactions definitely worth having a go if you think your heart will stand it be brave if you dare enjoy we did.

Lovely Place, Lovely room, Lovely service, everything we wanted from a weekend break, the building is very impressive, great rooms which felt clean and cared for, and the staff were very friendly and helpful... can't wait to return...

Friday the 13th. Unlucky for some. Not for a recent family wedding. Beautiful setting. Fabulous architecture. Wonderful staff. Brilliant day altogether. On arrival to leaving late on the evening the whole day was fantastic. Food tasty. Facilities wonderful and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Couldn't find fault in any part of the day. A beautiful setting for a beautiful couple. We'll done to all the staff and organisers.

A place we love to visit is the North East of England.On the occasion of my birthday in March 2018 on our last break there we stayed at 'Slaley Hall' (See my review '"In Urgent Need Of A Refresh And Revive' ) and what a disappointment that was. So when we decided to visit the Beamish museum (See my review 'Living History' ) it made sense to have an overnight stay at a hotel adjacent to it.So a reservation was was made for "Beamish Hall'. Built in the mid 13th.century it was initially designated as a manor. Although under the 'Best Western' umbrella it has been privately owned by the Craggs family for the last fifteen years and has become a labour of love and pride for them from being a disused shell of its former glories when purchased. I booked last year and recall the lady on reception saying it was old and sometimes things may go wrong within its structure.So if there was to be a repeat of the 'Slaley Hall' experience I had been warned! First impressions of the building on driving in were favourable as was the immaculate reception / lounge area.On checking in with Susan I was given a most welcome 25% discount entry voucher for the 'Beamish Museum' .I had booked one of the two feature rooms 'The Lily' which occupies an excellent central position above reception looking over the well tended grounds.The room is French impressionist style,large,very well appointed,spotlessly clean and having the first chandelier I've personally seen in a bathroom. The hotel had just had a Wedding Fayre the previous day and looking round the well appointed immaculate public rooms it is quite obvious that this is an excellent venue to hold that life changing event. The restaurant /bar/outdoor seating at the rear of the hotel is what was and is now called 'The Stables'. It boasts its own micro brewery although this was closed on our visit due to refurbishment.James the friendly 'Toon' supporting bar person recommended a local brew, 'Citra' ,from Roundhill Brewery,Billingham and an excellent choice it was.Such a shame then that dinner at night was the only negative of the break.Both our meals were very disappointing but it may be that we caught the kitchen on a bad day.Ruth,the manager, was both very apologetic and embarrassed but her professionalism helped soothe the situation. We were therefore slightly relieved to discover that breakfast the following morning was served in the 'Eden Room' on the 1st.floor along the corridor from our room.Once again a splendid area where apart from the cold buffet items the cooked meals were freshly prepared and brought to the table by friendly welcoming waitresses's.It seemed to me that dinner should have been here with breakfast in 'The Sables'.It was explained however that this presented logistical problems.A shame really as,in my opinion,it would be a much better location for the more formal dining event of the two. Before checking out I spoke to Shaun the highly accomplished maintenance manager who takes great pride in his job and it shows throughout the hotel. So in conclusion apart from the meal at dinner I found the hotel and staff to be faultless.It is our intention to revisit next March on my birthday and once again feel - 'TO THE MANOR BORN'

Beamish Hall Hotel looks like a county house and it gives guests the same experience. Rooms are large and well appointed. Bathrooms are great. Grounds are lovely and staff is top knotch. Food is delicious and the whole experience is terrific value for money. It is conveniently located to all the top attractions of the area and we would recommend this great hotel to anyone.

Second visit to Beamish Hall as so impressed the first time round with the level of service, quality and attentiveness that simply had to return. Was not disappointed second time round as the teamwork among the staff was simply the best encountered in a long while and this formulan is what makes the hotel work so well to the customers complete satisfaction. Bit tired in places in the bathroom but its an old historic building and was spotlessly clean, well stocked daily by the housekeeper and extremely comfortable.Having been a chef for several years foodwise makes me perhaps super critical but was so surprised and impressed by the Stables chefs version of the humble cottage pie. That person knew their flavours and seasonings and had the rare ability to cook simple ingredients with passion and flair. Equally the lone breakfast chef even with sudden influx and demand due to a conference taking place on one morning of our stay held it together (as did the wonderful waiting staff albiet with red faces from the sudden rush) and still produced the perfectly cooked eggs and breakfasts superbly presented - well done! We will be returning for that spoilt, pampered and totally relaxing stay in superb surroundings. What an absolute gem of a hotel made successful by its utterly amazing staff and fantastic teamwork.

Disappointingly shabby room given how lovely the building is. One receptionist was lovely, but another was quite surly and not engaging. Room was reasonably priced but decidedly shabby with peeling paint, damp patch, and bathroom sink cracked. Kettle had to be plugged in on the floor as lead wasn't long enough to reach plug socket otherwise.

Excellent, highly recommend this hotel, staff and food. There was a problem with our first room which was changed without any hesitation 2nd room perfect. Breakfast was cooked to order and served at the table, eggs benedictine delicious.

Great afternoon, very good service, lovely friendly staff. I would suggest more savoury items it was all very sweet, maybe offer a gentlemans afternoon tea as an option. With the room being so big, maybe a bigger screen could be considered. Having said that we had a really lovely afternoon.

My wife & i stopped at this hotel 14 & 15th September as it was our anniversary, set in lovely grounds with beamish museum 5 minute drive away.I must congratulate the staff absolutely brilliant couldn't be more helpful definitely going back.

I took my Dad for afternoon tea which featured the film calamity Jane. The whole experience was wonderful. We were greeted at the entrance of the hall by lovely staff who offered us sparkling wine. Once we were seated they constantly were filling our cups with tea and coffee. The food was excellent far too much,but they brought us a plastic box to take the cakes home. The staff were fantastic I think the only down side was that we had trouble hearing the speaking but the singing was fine.

Had a lovely afternoon with my friend. Afternoon tea was very nice, although the scones were a bit 'heavy'. Staff were friendly and helpful. The volume of the movie was a bit high to the point where we couldn't make out some of the dialogue. Not sure whether this may have been due to the acoustics of the room or our seating position (we were at the front, quite close to the screen and speaker).

This hotel is just stunning. The room we had was very beautiful and very big with lovely period features and fabulous modern bathroom with jacuzzi bath totally enjoyed our stay. Highly recommend this hotel

Booked a premier double room for couple of nights as we wanted to visit the beamish museum . Check in was very good and done quickly , we were told about breakfast and booked table for evening meal . The room was very large with four poster bed , bathroom was also very large . Room looked a little tired round the edges and in the bathroom but was a nice room in spite of that . We had an issue in the bathroom with some sort of leak , but it was fixed for us by the time we got back from our day out . It was a very comfortable room and enjoyed our stay . Very quiet , calm and relaxing . Breakfast was very good and had no issues , staff were sociable and polite . Got a little news letter each morning with weather and offers on stays which was nice . We would stay again if we ever need somewhere to stay in that part of the world .

Cold indifferent welcome. Couldn't care less - attitude from the front desk. The same two ladies checked us in and out. Simply not interested in the customers. Absolutely no presence of the staff to accommodate the customers. No information about the hotel. No drawing room to spend the evening? No bar? What time is the breakfast? where is the breakfast room? Is there a restaurant at the premesis? We had eventually dinner at the rustic stables "restaurant". Poor menu, nothing special above the low average. far from a gourmet restaurant. Chicken cooked dry, vegetables spongy. Dessert a mess of tastes and mashed sweets, disgusting. Waiter no knowledge of wines, tried to pour the wine (Sancerre) in a not empty glass of G&T! and no courtesy of having us taste the wine before pouring. Asked for tap water and got expensive bottled water. On the bill was added a bottle of wine we didn't have, had to argue with the head waitress about it, no apologies, she turned away grumpy and had no curtesy, didn't even wish us a good night, thank you or welcome back. if this head waitress has a name she should be talked to fiercely or be fired! The hotel seemed to be aimed at guests as a group and not individuals. Rooms ok, although presented as individually decorated it lacked a personal touch end talented involvement. Any review is done according to our experiences and expectations. I try to be positive until the contrary is evidently. In this case the hotel's presentation does not meet reality!
