    « Awesome staff »

We love this hotel. The rooms are clean and comfortable, breakfast was good and the front check in staff were so nice and helpful. We needed info on a good burger place and they recommended an awesome place and printed directions out for us. Train came thru late the first night and woke us up - maybe ask for a room on the front of the hotel if this would bother you. Will stay again for sure!

    « Great Hotel »

We stayed here for 1 night with my husband and two kids. We had a king suite room which had a separate living room and bedroom area. The room was nice and big. The room also had a kitchenette and with a toddler and a infant this came in handy. We loved having the bedroom separate from the living room so we had a space to close off when it was time to put the toddler to bed. The front desk staff were all really nice. The breakfast in the morning was great. Everything was fresh and stocked well.

« Great staff, great ambience, great towels, wonderful rooms »

This is my third visit to this hotel. As always the staff was welcoming and fresh cookies greet you at the front counter. When you enter there is a cozy fireplace and fresh coffee served all day. There is even a offering of hot tea with several creamer offerings. Although I didn't have enough time to enjoy the free breakfast I saw a lot of happy patrons enjoying the offerings. For those without time to partake in breakfast there are always free 'To Go' bags that include a tasty snack bar, apple and bottled water - how cool is that. The rooms are spacious, the beds and pillows are very comfortable. I love that this hotel offers four bath towels instead of two or three. This hotel is also generous with hand and facial towels. Did I mention the towels are always bright white, soft and new looking. Another thing this hotel understands is how people appreciate the little things. I love the fact they offer full-length mirrors. It sounds so simple to include something so inexpensive, yet most hotels forget to include this type of convenience. The only upgrade I think this hotel needs is carpeting, but that's a small price to pay for all the little details and the great price. When the carpeting is replaced my four star rating will change to five. Great place!!!

    « Great value »

This hotel was a great room at a great price...Will stay here again for sure. We had a room close to the front desk and it was still quiet. Also for those who don't want to fight traffic or maybe have a cocktail, they have a shuttle.

« The Vacation2017 stayed at the BWPlus Spirit Mountain Duluth »

Hi - I stayed at the BWPlus during MEA weekend with my daughter and granddaughter. The room was clean and comfortable. We had the King Suite. Just the right size. The couch was comfortable for me. The continental breakfast was good. The staff were very polite and helpful. Trains going by in the morning or night, not a bother at all. The stay was enjoyable and we would do it again! Oh, and it was the first time ever, that I was thanked for the tip I left after the first night staying there. Keep up the great work, BWPlus Spirit Mountain Duluth staff!

    « Long weekend away »

We spent our MEA break in the Duluth area, staying here. We were pleasantly surprised with the convenience and accommodating service we received on our visit. The hotel was well maintained, clean, and convenient. The only downside was the train rolling by at 4am.

    « Very comfortable »

The bed was awesome with nice bedding. The room was huge, we even had two TVs! The complimentary breakfast was one of the best I've seen, complete with waffles. Our room was very quiet despite there being numerous children there. I wish we had stayed more than one night.

« On the Road Stay »

This hotel was conveniently right beside the freeway and offered us a free upgrade upon arrival. The desk clerk made a very good recommendation for nearby dining and provided us with a coupon that saved us 20% on a very good meal. In spite of being beside the freeway, we had a quiet restful night, especially after use of the whirlpool tub in the room.

    « North shore getaway »

Clean and comfortable, offers very good value for area. Helpful and friendly staff, typical of Best Western Plus. Very easy access to downtown Duluth and north shore. Parking lot spacious and well lighted. Breakfast features many different items, all hot and fresh.

    « Spirit Mountain's Best »

Great stay at Best Western Plus Spirit Mountain Duluth. They honored 800 BW booking request for room near exit for disabled husband. Desk Clerk's restaurant suggestion was on point. We had delicious whitefish cakes, minnesota hot dish bowls of bison & pple pie dinner at Duluth Grill. Hotel located easy access from Aquarium and train museum.

    « I would stay here again. »

The manager/workers were most friendly and efficient. Unfortunately, the electric went out just as we walked in the door, so we could not pull up our registration. The electric was out for about a mile down the road because of road work. The employees were apologetic multiple times, trying to get to the bottom of the problem, and doing everything they could to rectify the problem. Despite their "stress" which they tried not to show, they were attentive to us and everyone else. We were a large group there for an upcoming wedding, so their lobby chairs were full. We were fine with everything and they were all so kind.

    « Great Stay! »

Only reason this hotel didn't get 5 stars was because the Wifi was down for more than half our stay! It stopped working the night we arrived and started working the night before we had to leave. (We stayed for 3 nights) Otherwise it was a great stay. Breakfast was good. Staff was friendly. The pool area is very nice. Only other complaint is that the rooms are very warm, surprising since it was so cold outside! We actually had to run the A/C on the inside.

« convenient location to Duluth and north shore »

stayed on a Friday night before heading up the north shore. very convenient location, just off I35. staff was very pleasant, rooms are nice sized and beds are comfortable. they have a nice pool area too. the breakfast was definitely a cut above recent breakfasts we have had at other hotels. only drawback was they had a hard time keeping up with all the "HUNGRY" hotel guests. c'mon people, free/included does not mean horde all you can. there was a little highway noise, our room faced the highway. so maybe a room on the backside would be a little quieter. wifi worked great in our room. would definitely stay here again next time thru Duluth. I know this hotel is busy with skiers in the winter for Spirit Mountain. I was really interested to hear them say they had guests all the way up from the Ryder Cup golf tournament when it was in Mpls in September.

    « Attended a wedding in Duluth,mn »

We enjoyed our stay, rooms were clean and spacious. Breakfast was really great, eggs sausage, waffles etc. The Best Western Plus' seem to all have their own individual themes, this one has fish mounted over the fireplace in the lobby, moose, deer and bear, fits the north woods, atmosphere, great place to stay.

« WIsh I had stayed the whole time »

We stayed in a property near the Canal Street for part of our visit to Duluth. It definitely wasn't as nice. Wish we had stayed here the whole time!!! We stayed at a Best Western in Colorado a few weeks ago. I would definitely recommend looking at Best Western to anyone who is traveling.

    « Overall very good »

The rooms were very nice. Hot continental breakfast was great. We were put in an handicap room as that was the only room available. Not the most convenient, but it worked. Would recommend having a shelf in the shower for soap and shampoo and a shelf by the shower for clothes. Beds were very comfortable. Staff was accommodating. The only problem was that the wifi did not work at all.

    « Exceptional »

We had a very nice time and enjoyed the room and facilities very much. The breakfast was great and well stocked. The pool and workoout room were above average anfd the front desk people were friendly and helpful. The chocolate chip cookies and lemon water at the desk were a nice touch. Thr room was clean and spacious and included a refrigerator and microwave at a reasonable price just outside of Duluth. We would definitely stay there again!

« Fall trip to Duluth »

Very pleased with our room! It was clean and comfortable. To our surprise we were able to get a free upgrade to a King Suite. We like the fact that there is free parking, free wifi and a nice complimentary hot breakfast buffet. We would definitely stay there again when in the area. Staff was friendly and helpful.

« Staff was great and helpful »

We arrived before check in, but they accelerated our room cleanup to accommodate us. Kudos for that. Our suite room was very large with a nice bath and completely separate bedroom which was nice. The foldout couch could be upgraded. but my granddaughter slept there with no complaints. The king bed was fine. Nice pool and hot tub. Rate was good as well so quite satisfied.

    « bwplus »

average stay. room was noisy with ventilation or heating unit also with being close to freeway. truck noise. may have been better on back side of hotel not next to freeway. the price was right due to expedia. would never stay paying regular rate by booking through hotel

    « Nice hotel! »

Bright, clean and close to Duluth, this hotel is a great option if you want to avoid high hotel costs in the city but still be close to amenities. The pool/hot tub area was very nice too with all the glass windows, breakfast is included. There is both a gas station and fast food literally next door too.

« Pleasant hotel with spacious rooms »

Located on the Freeway a couple of miles outside Duluth. Pleasant hotel with large rooms - mine had a good sized sleeping area and separate living area, plus fridge and microwave. Everything was clean and seemed well maintained. Small swimming pool and jacuzzi which I didn't use but which looked fine. I didn't notice any noide from the freeway and the hotel was generally quiet - though I was in a room which was well back from the road so I can't say if all rooms are as quiet. In the morning there's a breakfast buffet serving a selection of hot (or at least warm) meats, toast, yoghurts, pastries etc - the range and quality was perhaps not awe-inspiring, but filled a gap in the morning. Otherwise the hotel doesn't serve food so for an evening meal you either need to walk across the parking lot to the McDonalds, or drive into Duluth for much greater choice.A pleasant stay, though if I stayed in Duluth again I might look for a place which had a few more options for eating.

    « Greatly overrated »

This Best Western property is a PLUS property and I would rate it a NEGATIVE property. We had a king suite with a separate living room area. The bathroom and bedroom part had been updated. However, the carpet should have been changed. It was filthy so much so that we did not even want to walk on it with socks. The furniture in the living area was very dated. The bathroom had a terrible odor which I suspect was from the sewer. We asked the front desk for a deodorizer which the person on duty brought and it helped.

    « Nice Hotel »

This is a nice hotel. The kids love the pool and we love the hot tub. The breakfast is very good. The only issue we had was that the wifi stopped working. Beds were a little hard for me, but I prefer them softer. The location is easy to get to and not far away from downtown. A little limited on food delivery, but not bad.

    « Very nice property »

We found this hotel to be outstanding. Very nice rooms and superb service from front desk etc. Nice location with nearby restaurants and gas station right on the property. We recommend you stay here when in Duluth.

« Comfortable, Quiet and Clean »

We have not stayed at Best Western for some time, however the rate at this hotel was comparable with others in the area. Rooms were very adequate and comfortable. Carpet is showing some wear, but nothing to be concerned about. Breakfast was good. Always liked Best Western, but some of the hotels have raised rates to put them above my travel allowance, but would choose them if they fit my budget.

    « Michimama »

Very clean and comfortable. Even though it is located next to the freeway, we heard very little road noise. It was very quiet. Breakfast selection was excellent and plentiful. Great location with easy access to metropolitan area.

    « Staff »

We found this hotel through trip adviser (and their reviews) and were very pleasantly pleased. It has been a while since we have stayed at a Best Western, but were delighted at the very warm and comfy atmosphere of this one. The lobby is welcoming, but we found the staff exceptional. Some were even working double shifts and told us they loved their jobs and just liked being there. How often do I run into people who say they love their job...I had to think about that. We had need to use their laundry facility which was nice and clean, just like the hotel. Duluth is not a place, we probably will be up to visit again as it was part of our bucket list tour of the Great Lakes, but we were so pleased to have so many nice experiences along the way. This was one of them because of their friendly and helpful staff: Sarah, Jordan and Lyndee were helpful in so many ways. The reviews did not disappoint. This hotel is a very nice place to stay.

« An enjoyable Stay at BW Spirit Mountain, Duluth »

After a long day of driving from Winnipeg in and out of rain showers, walking into the spectacular lobby of this place brightened things up. It is a well kept facility with friendly staff and a good complimentary breakfast. A busload arrived as we went for a short walk and they were all processed by our return. Our room was very nice and quiet; appreciated as we faced a long drive the next day.

    « »

Usual Best Western. Clean and functional. Had 2 computers downstairs that came in handy (one didn't work). Breakfast was average, but others may like more. Had plenty of items to choose from. Hotel served its purpose for this trip and rate was very good.

    « Great Staff »

We were in town for a wedding and spent 4 nights at the hotel. I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and they have a very nice breakfast with several dining options in the morning. It's in a great location - Spirit Mountain is just up the road and very close to downtown Duluth and Canal Street shops and restraunts - very convenient.

    « Great visit! »

We stayed here at the beginning of September. Check in was smooth, and the front desk staff were very friendly. We checked in to the king suite with a jacuzzi in the room. Absolutely beautiful room! The bed was comfortable, and jacuzzi worked! The room itself was spotless, so kudos to the housekeepers! It was just outside of Duluth, so it wasn't in a busy area. Very quiet location. I'll definitely return if when I come back to Duluth in a few months.

    « Great Service! »

Sarah. Housekeeping and the entire staff went far out of their way to make sure our stay was wonderful. My wife has severe asthma and chemical senstivity. Sarah and Housekeeping made sure that the room was cleaned only with vinegar, alcohol and water. This greatly improved my wife's comfort level. We have never had such great preparation for our stay at any other hotel. Thank you Sarah and your great housekeeping staff.

« NIce hotel in decent location »

Stayed at this hotel twice in the span of a week this summer. First stay was excellent. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Breakfast is a decent continental and the staff, on both trips were very friendly and accommodating. Thumbs up there. Hotel is on the outskirts of Duluth on your way to Minneapolis. Second stay was very average. Pool and hot tub were both closed for maintenance. We were given a corner room in the second floor that faces the railway line... apparently three trains on average go right behind the hotel, and in this room it literally shakes the foundation. If you get your choice I'd recommend asking for a room facing the expressway instead.

    « Fantastic stay »

Beds were very comfy. Breakfast was great, even had gluten free items for breakfast. Pool area nicely maintained, a bit too much chlorine in hot tub. I would for sure stay here again. Easy access on and off freeway.

    « Nice suites »

The price of $114 (with discounts) was a fair one for the nice suite, with a sitting area with its own TV as well as one in the sleeping area. The motel is convenient to reach from I-35, with a convenience market and McDonald's within walking distance. "David", who checked me in, was very nice., He came to my room to try to get the wi-fi working on my laptop and iPad but it didn't. I was told later that it was out of order and efforts were underway to fix it. On my second day, I was given the information for the wi-fi used in the lobby and it worked in my first floor room. Otherwise, the room and what it offered were fine -- plenty of room, plenty of electrical outlets, sufficient lighting. Unfortunately, I couldn;t get the windows open, and the small fridge is enclosed in a cabinet that keeps heat trapped making it pretty well useless. Breakfast was "meh", a slight step above the cereal, sweetrolls and waffles places. There was biscuits and gravy and egg rounds, which were nothing to waste calories on. Despite this, I would stay here again. The pros outweigh the cons.

« Disappointing Check Out and Car broken into »

Our stay was two nights for a wedding. It was an average hotel, with an average breakfast. I was disappointed to learn that when I realized I needed to add a second room to my reservation for one night, it would be a two night minimum due to short notice and the weekend. I did make this reservation 9 months earlier, so they already had my business. I just felt like they needed to stick it to us to get more money. However, we did get the room. Sadly, someone in our party had their car broken into while on the property. Several items were taken. The most frustrating was at check out when we wanted to split our bill. We waited in line for 30 minutes on a Sunday morning while one employee was working. She had her hands full with another customer upset over their bill. She even called the manager at home. To me that was very unprofessional. Since we needed to make an appointment, we ended up leaving our keys on the counter and letting her know the car had been broken into. She wanted us to stay, but we didn't because we were already late.

    « Amazing time »

David from 3rd shift was the highlight of our stay! Because of him we had both company up front while partying with family and the comfort of being able to check out just a little later than normal!!!

    « Nice place »

This place was clean and the staff were very friendly. We had no problems there, the breakfast was good and they assisted us when we asked for more trash bags and came to our room straight away. They let us check in an hour early too which was nice

    « It an Okay »

Only thing I didn't like was seeing blood stain on bed sheets and strong bleach smell. Everything else was great, since we only stayed there 1 night for family trip. My son love it since it his first time in hotel.

  • 2
« not happy with the room »

We were disappointed with the condition of the room. The carpeting was dirty and the upholstered chair was threadbare on the arms. We weren't asked how things were when we left, and because the front desk was busy, I didn't bring it up. We should have asked for a new room right away.

    « Great Experience »

Nice hotel, helpful friendly staff, price point was perfect for what we were looking for. We were in the area for vacation and we were looking for a place for our children to swim after a day of site seeing and a comfortable bed to sleep in. Since we were there during the week the pool was very quiet, most nights our girls were the only ones swimming in there, which they thought was great (although I thought it was VERY warm in there) We were offered extra Best Western rewards for going green (which I think is great). Rooms were comfortable but the next time I would ask for a room on the back side of the property, away from the freeway and front door could hear the traffic and people coming and going. Breakfast was your normal hot, breakfast, but was good.

« Surprisingly Very Good Hotel »

I was surprised that this hotel was so nice. Check in.out staff was great. They asked us if we were there for Tall Ships Duluth and when I said yes, they gave me a schedule and information about the ships. They gave me breakfast and pool information. We stayed in a Queen suite and it was really nice. It's almost like two rooms. Spacious, two t.v.'s a decent bathroom. This hotel seems to be older but was clean and updated. Only two things were disappointing: on the second day, the staff couldn't keep up with breakfast and didn't seem to care too much, and also a staff member gave a key card to two children under 10 to get into the pool without any adult present. Upon checking in, it was emphasized to us that no children under 17 were allowed in the pool without supervision, yet here was a staff member giving kids, who looked about 8 and 10, a key card so they could go to the pool alone. How hard is it to tell a kid no so that you are following your own rules? My 14 year old son who got the message loud and clear when we checked in saw this entire scenario and was like, what? They just got a key to go into the pool alone? Rules like that should be for everyone.

    « 5 Star Customer Service »

Extremely busy weekend in Duluth with it being Tall Ship week. We spend the weekend here for a wedding and at check-in we were met by the best people. check-in was smooth, friendly, and even funny. Went out of their way trying to find a Pack N Play for one of our grandkids. They were out of them so they called numerous hotels to find one and when they did, they drove to get it. Place was clean, breakfast was decent, pool was fun for the kids. I would definitely stay here again. Thanks, Jim

« Good but not plus. »

The hotel employees were friendly and efficient. The thing I was disappointed in was the carpet in the non smoking room. It had what looked like cigarette burns all over the carpet. Some of the worse carpet I have seen in a hotel room. The carpet in the hall was nice though. The other thing is I enjoy a hot tub which seems to help with soar muscles. I would call theirs a luke warm tub. Not really hot do help but not cold. The indoor pool was a comfortable temp. Overall I would stay there again as the beds and breakfast were very good.

« Lynnde Is an Employee You Want to Hold on To »

We are spending the night for The Tall Ships event. My girlfriend and her two young kids were trying, unsuccessfully, to get her son onto the elevator. He has extreme fears and anxiety of riding in elevators and was in tears and trying to run away to the stairs by himself when we were trying to get him and all the luggage onto the elevator. He was about to have a full blown meltdown and was in panicked tears when Lynnde simply strolled up, kneeled down, and showed him all the buttons and what they were for and that the elevator would not get stuck. She said she was going to be waiting right outside the elevator in case he got scared until he got up to the third floor and his confidence shifted and he got into the elevator and rode it up. Her kindness well beyond her job requirements made an monumental impact on his little guy's level of confidence. He has ridden the elevator without incidence several times since...something that was impossible prior to today with out a full blown panicked, temper tantrum. Her kind presence and willingness to go beyond what is expected of her is so refreshing. Our interactions with Lynnde were alone enough to make our stay here worthwhile. These are the kind of employees who make The Best Western experience worthwhile, and more importantly the kind of people that brighten the world a little more with their presence. To Lynnde...THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS! Sincerely, Megan, Kristina, Jasmin, & Jordin

    « Duluth »

Decent facility if you are looking for a place to sleep. Overall the rooms were nice but dated. Bed was comfortable. Free breakfast is the generic waffle, clumpy watery eggs, and sausages. Nothing exciting here just a decent place to sleep.

« Modern, well maintained, very clean, good breakfast »

I have hard a hard time finding good hotels with moderate pricing around Duluth. I have been disappointed several times. Few hotels around here have good reviews. Be34yond that, I have been burnt several times recently by Tripadvisor reviews that sing the praises of a hotel breakfast, which I end up finding more than mediocre... I feel that I lucked out with my stay at Best Western Plus in Proctor. The hotel is modern and very well kept. It is close to the freeway, but I could not hear any road noise. The room we had was VERY clean, and quite spacious, with a good bathroom and strong water pressure. The staff was friendly and helpful. Check in was reasonably efficient. Checkout was express, so really fast - we just had to drop our keys. I am reserving a paragraph for breakfast. I expect to find a decent warm breakfast at he hotels where I am staying. I have been very disappointed by many of my stays, including some were Tripadvisor reviews were actually quite complimentary over the quality of breakfast. Compared to the business hotels where I stay, this breakfast was on the low end - although not horrendous. Compared to the hotels I have stayed at on vacation in the past couple of years, breakfast here was quite decent: good coffee, decent quality breakfast pastries and bagels, good hot sausage, mediocre pre-made cheese omlets and cheese, hard-boiled eggs, I think waffles (not sure), good oatmeal, mixed juices, fruits etc. All in all, this was a solid value stay on our way to the Boundary Waters, and I really recommend the place as compared to others in the same price class around Duluth.

    « Needs a Renovation...badly... »

Please replace those mattress, I could feel the springs in my back, I slept on floor both nights as it was more comfortable than beds. Also huge stains on carpet in room. Would be nice if breakfast stayed open until 10a, considering this is by a family resort.Hotel needs a make-over. Needs to be updated, it looks and smells like cheap hotel inside. You can tell this use to be country Inn and Suites and they have done nothing to improve property other than change signs.

    « A must stay »

Great room, wonderful service, clean, friendly and convenient location. Gas station and McDonald's right next door if you need anything. Less than 10 minutes to canal park from hotel. Have stayed there twice and will stay there again. Highly recommend.

    « Clean, comfortable hotel ! »

This is a well maintained, clean and comfortable hotel with a very friendly and helpful staff. It has all the amenities a family needs to enjoy their stay on the North Shore, including a pool with hot tub and a hot breakfast buffet. The rooms are spacious with comfortable beds. The rooms also have microwaves and mini fridges.

« I can't say enough... kids.. rest... and great staff stop here. »

I have two young daughters... in my car after a 10 hour travel day... no reservations... most of the places were sold out or way too expensive. When I arrived the staff greeted me with a smile a cookie cold water and a great king room for my family. Hey helped with everything I asked... supplied bathroom items, recommended a great meal location and gave me coupons... when my kids couldn't eat in from being too tired... they helped us in the doors... gave me real plates and cutlery to eat in my room. Etc etc. I could go on. The breakfast was just what we needed... the pool was clean and refreshing. Best paid stay of our trip.

    « Dirty Rooms »

King-size room was over priced. The carpet was filthy. Free breakfast was crowded-way too small of an area to hold breakfast with that many people. The staff? Hardly ever saw them at the front desk. The pool room was so smelly--Why can't the windows be open in there?

« Interior a bit rundown but nice breakfast »

This hotel will do if you are simply looking for a place to lay your head at night. It's a 10 minute drive to Canal Park, which can be annoying if you are in town for a few days. The room needed some updating, but the beds and bathroom were clean. The pool is small but refreshing. It did get a bit crowded when there were 5 families in there, all with young kids. The breakfast was great, for being something that was included: waffles, eggs, sausage, fruit, cereals, juices, coffee and muffins. We were on the front, which faces 35, and you will hear traffic, especially large trucks and motorcycles. Ask for a room in the back if you are a light sleeper.

    « Awsome Breakfast »

We reserved two rooms for two couples. Both rooms were on the first floor and smelled a little musty/doggie! When brought to the attention of the staff, they immediately changed our rooms to the second and third floor and these rooms were much better. The furnishings were dated, but the room was clean and the beds were comfy Parking was abundant and convenient. The breakfast the next morning was very good. There was a wide variety and the food that should be served hot..was hot! Compliments to the staff watching the breakfast area. This hotel was a good value.

« Good motel for the money »

We stayed there from Wed Aug 3rd - Friday Aug 5th, and found it to be a very comfortable hotel. The staff was very friendly. I would have to complain though about the smell in our room when we walked into it. It smelled like wet towels had been left sitting in the heat for too long. The pool did have quite a bit of chlorine, but tolerable, albeit kind of small. The breakfasts were adequate, good, but a basic continental breakfast. Liked that it was out of all the hustle and bustle of the canal area, yet close enough to get there quickly without hassle. Easy access from 35.

    « Excellent Service »

The desk individuals were fantastic....helpful and knew the area well. (Gave specific directions to scenic and tourist attractions. Swimming pool was wonderful for children in our group. GREAT people and great price. It was convenient to all of central Duluth.

« Mediocre hotel on the edge of town »

Booked the Best Western Plus Spirit Mountain expecting a pretty decent hotel that wasn't centered in the "crazy" of the harbor area. It is supposed to be a BWPlus, after all! The location was as I expected and I appreciated the quiet and lack of traffic issues. Quick, easy expressway to downtown, no problem there. The room, a King suite, was basically clean, and yet, the carpet had grease stains in front of the chair, the sofa and chair have both seen better days, the carpet edges and corners had CLEARLY not been vacuumed in months and the various countertops were in similar condition, grunge in the corners and along the back edges. The mattress and pillows were barely passable, by the end of 3 nights my back was complaining. The pool had so much chlorine in it that it could burn your nose standing in the lobby - didn't use it. My husband was so excited to find that they had a fitness room! Sadly, the one and only treadmill was out-of-order. As hotel breakfasts go, this one was awful! Lots of food and a wide variety of food, none of it good. Think you can dodge that by eating fresh fruit and a bowl of cereal? Nope! Good luck getting any milk out of the dispenser - we think it was basically empty for 2 days, flowed great on the 3rd day. Sad, sad fruit in the fruit bowl. Tough, tasteless waffles, pre-made, impossible to dish oatmeal. Truly low end food service foods. To end on a happy note - the cookies in the jar at the check-in desk were very tasty!

« quite out of the way hotel »

A very nice hotel on the edge of Duluth, which is nice if you don't want to be in the middle of all the hussle and bussle. The hot tub was out of order during our stay which was quite disappointing but hopefully it will be back up and running soon. One of the better breakfasts we have ever had at a hotel.

« Nice hotel for family »

We stayed for 2 nights at the Best Western Plus hotel in Proctor. We were there for a hockey tournament in the area and it was a great hotel! INCREDIBLE beds and a nice continental breakfast. The staff was so friendly, always offering a "hello" or comment when we arrived or returned to the hotel. And they even gave us a late check out when we found out that we would have to drive to a further rink for one of our final games and would miss the original check out time. The best part of this hotel? the BEDS!!! I don't know what kind of mattresses they use, but for a hotel, I'm used to sleeping on average-at-best beds. These are great! Other things we enjoyed: close to the Holiday and McDonalds, and we liked that we were outside of Duluth a bit, which made it easy to get around the city because the hotel is close to the highway. The only downside is the cost of the rooms.. but this is my complaint all over Duluth this time of year. It was triple what we would usually pay for a similar hotel in other locations. But it's tourist season and we understand that you're being competitive. We would definitely stay here again!

This is the Best Hotel in the area, prices a reasonable, staff are great, and great solid amenities. It is a great place to stay with the whole family. you are close to the excitement of Duluth but just far enough away to be able to enjoy the peacefulness of spirit mountain

    « Top shelf accommodation »

Our room was spacious, clean and attractive. The staff was super friendly and attentive to our every need. Breakfast was exceptional--they even have real China and silverware to eat with! The location is a little out of Duluth proper but as this property is located right off the highway, getting around was not ever a problem. We enjoyed two restful nights here.

    « Helpful Receptionists »

After a long drive, we were delighted to be greeted by two very enthusiastic and helpful receptionists at check-in. They obviously love the area and helped us plan our overnight stay and the following day in Duluth. Our accommodations in a King suite were fine - clean and comfortable.

    « Best Customer Service- »

We have a child that has anaphylactic shock when ingesting peanuts and all tree nuts. My husband and I were very pleased at how the front desk and kitchen manager went over and above to explain what to stay away from for breakfast and what our child could have. Thank you for such great trained professionals on staff!

    « Nice Hotel »

Very comfortable place to stay. A Winter stay would be great because of its it's close proximity to Spirit Mountain Ski Lodge. Loved the shuttle service to Canal Park Area of Duluth. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Grandkids loved the swimming pool.

    « Everything was okay. »

This is your basic economy type hotel located just outside Duluth. The drive into town from the hotel is spectacular. The room was spacious and clean. The bed, bedding, and decor in general was dated and not as comfortable as other Best Westerns I have stayed in. It was completely acceptable though. The breakfast was okay, again other Best Westerns have been better. The staff was kind and helpful. The room was fairly quiet. There are train tracks very near the hotel and I heard the train several times at night. I live close to train tracks so this was not a big deal to me. The price is average. I was there for Grandma's marathon and the hotel raised the rates excessively due to the demand. Overall my experience here was just fine and I would recommend this hotel if you don't mind the 10-15 minute drive into town. If you want to stay in town you could probably find something a little better for a similar price.

« Quiet with Good Breakfast »

The breakfast room is small, but the breakfast has eggs, oatmeal, pancakes, waffles, fresh fruit, cereal, and yogurt. Our room was on the third floor facing away from the freeway and was very quiet. We both slept extremely well for being in a hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful. Although it's in Proctor, it is not far at all from downtown Duluth.

    « Very nice »

Check in was easy, quick and friendly. They informed us the wifi was out, due to the storms. The room was clean and no bedbugs, which is important to me. Other than the train which ran through about 10pm it was perfect. Cookies, hot tea and coffee available 24 hrs a day. Plenty to choose from for breakfast. Make your own waffle, yogurt and oatmeal bar, fruit, pastries, assortment of breads. Great place.

« Comfortable Rooms, Great Breakfasts, excellent service »

We stayed at Best Western Plus Spirit Mountain in Duluth MN over 4th of July. I was impressed by the nicely decorated outside and lobby. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Everyone had great smiles and a friendly word. The room was clean and comfortable. The pool was very nice. The breakfast room was a bit snug for the amount of people in it, but everything was kept well stocked and I thought the breakfast was better than most hotels. They have a waffle and pancake maker and gourmet syrup, or regular syrup if you prefer. Fresh fruit was not apples like most places, but grapefruits. Very nice and highly recommended.

« Best Western spirit Mountain »

Hotel staff was very helpful. Pool was very warm. Room was very clean and roomy. Breakfast was good. Close to Spirit mountain. Restraunts near by for quick meal. This is very good value for the dollar. Would highly recommend staying here in the future. Easy to find right off of 35.

    « Convenient location - good value! »

Very helpful and friendly staff. Rooms are large. Comfortable bed with duvet and nice pillows. Black out curtains. Pool - so heard some kids running in halls. Train runs right behind hotel, but not very often. Highway is on the front side of hotel. Fridge and microwave in our suite like room with two TVS. Bathroom looks like it was redone recently. Clean. Great AARP discount - good value.

« Excellent facility and GREAT staff »

From beginning to end our time there was awesome. Staff was so very helpful and accommodating. We are bikers, and had some extra requests. They didn't bat an eye - were quick to respond. Accommodations were wonderful - clean and up today. Would gladly stay there again. In fact, we stayed an extra night. GREAT place.

    « Great Place! »

I stayed here with my two girls and sister's family earlier this month. The hotel was very clean, the bed and linens were quite comfortable, and the breakfast was great. We loved the location and the staff were friendly. I would certainly return. The pool was a little on the small side, but not many guests were using it so it wasn't a problem for us.

« Well taken care of! »

We stayed at this hotel because we always use a fitness room and when we checked in the treadmill was broken. Then to top it all off, the internet was down the first night of our stay. Best Western came through though and compensated us for our stay. We would not hesitate to recommend them.

« We felt like royalty! »

Our running group came to Duluth for Grandma's Marathon. Wow! The entire city supported this event, and the Best Western employees were no exception. They welcomed us, went out of their way to accommodate our needs and generally made our stay so very pleasant!

    « Great Stay »

Great Stay! Always very clean. The staff is wonderful, I know, I have stayed there about 3 separate times in the last month with my staff. all the rooms were excellent. The breakfast was a great savings. Everything was great. My staff loves is as well!

« Highly Recommended Place to Stay in Duluth »

My wife and I stayed here for the Grandma's Marathon weekend. Our original reason for staying here was because it was the only hotel that had a room available at the time we booked it. However, with the outstanding experience we had at this hotel, we plan to stay here again at next year's Grandma's. Although it is not located near Canal Park where most of the marathon activities take place, the hotel offers a free shuttle which will take you to Canal Park. This is a real advantage. This makes the hotel's location a mute point, I think. Additionally, this hotel is well-kept, has a friendly and attentive staff who are willing to answer any questions you may have. The breakfast is above average for a hotel of this type and the room rate is a bit lower than hotels in the Canal Park area. The hotel has all the amenities one could ask for. A pool and a hot tub top the list. There is plenty of parking and the hotel is located right next to I-35 for easy access into Duluth if one cares to drive into the city. Traffic noise from the freeway was never a problem either. The hotel was very clean. well-maintained, and we felt very comfortable staying here. My wife thought the bed was a little too soft, but I slept just fine on it. The fact is, most people like the bed they have at home more than any hotel bed. That's my opinion, anyway.

« Nice and clean hotel »

I stayed 2 nights here for business I had in town. Hotel staff was friendly and there is always complementary cookies and lemon water. Hotel grounds and rooms were very clean. Beds were very comfy, only thing that I observed was I was on the north side of the hotel which faced the interstate, which made it noisy and you could hear traffic going by. Otherwise the hotel is great, located just off the interstate, which makes it great for easy access. Hotel offered complementary hot breakfast as well. Note hotel is next to a McDonalds and Holiday Gas Station.

    « Nice Stay »

The hotel was nice, beautiful view from up on Spirit Mountain looking down at Duluth. Very close to the visitor center. A convenience store and McDonalds right next door. Only a few minute drive down the hill to Duluth and cheaper than the hotels down there. Room was nice enough, pretty basic. Pool area was very clean. The biggest bummer was that the hot tub was out of order the weekend we were there. The older lady at the front desk was not very friendly but the younger one made up for it. Nice touch having coffee in the lobby all the time along with the water and cookies. Breakfast selection was great and plentiful. We would stay here again.

    « noisy road »

The staff was very friendly and always helpful the noise from the road was a huge deficit to trying to sleep well. The hot tub was not available either. Due to maintenance that was dissapointing, The bed appeared to have been sat on ? prior to our arrival like maybe someone slept in one bed and the other one was not but it was crumpled? It was an average room for an average price kind of you get what you pay for.

« My new place for nights in Duluth »

I don't know why I overlooked this place for so long. Maybe it wasn't perfectly convenient to my destinations, also I thought maybe because the price was lower than the Duluth hotels that something might be wrong with it...BUT a co-worker (2 actually) recommended I give it a try after I had a few bad nights at a hotel closer to my destination. I come into Duluth/Cloquet a couple times a month for work. I sleep terribly in hotels. My stay was great. The woman who took my reservations was very helpful and friendly. She gave me a great corporate rate. I checked in very late in the evening. The room was huge. A living area and a sleeping area. I had some trouble opening the window (I'm a fresh air junkie), called down to the front desk and the night clerk came up to help me. The shining star was the bed. So extremely comfortable. Granted I did wake up a few times in the night...but I really have a hard time in hotels in general. Also not used to sleeping alone, without my husband and at least one child LOL. So no points off for my inability to sleep well. As another reviewer mentioned I would buy that bed. Everything was clean. Breakfast was nice, no noise from the train as I had been concerned about due to other reviews. I was going to give it 4 out of 5 stars ONLY because it's not the most exciting locations but everything else was very nice. But I thought maybe that was just too subjective to take a star away. Anywho... this is a very decent place and VERY well priced for being close enough to Duluth. Rooms in Duluth are $$$$$

« Excellent place to stay! »

We had a great time at Best Western Plus Spirit Mountain! The room was very large and spacious, and the bed was super comfortable! We got lucky with a king size bed and a sleeper sofa in the living room area, which was separate from the bedroom. The staff were super friendly and helpful the entire time we were there. They called when we got to our room to see if we needed anything and to check on how we liked the room. They talked with us about different things to see in Duluth since it was our first time there, and gave us a guidebook. Breakfast hours were great for the weekend and holiday, we appreciated the longer hours so we could sleep in a little bit. All the food there was delicious, we enjoyed the pancake and waffle maker along with all the other breakfast food options.

    « Awesome retreat for two! ! »

My husband and I just celebrated our anniversary and went to Duluth and stayed in the Best Western Plus Spirit Mt. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay for 4 nights. The bed in the King Suite was so comfortable, we wanted to buy it!! The staff was so friendly and helpful! We were impressed with the breakfast staff...they were so on top of keeping everything tended to. The desk staff was very accommodating, as well when we wanted to add an extra night. When you go out exploring during the day, they have grab n go bags with a piece of fruit, a bottle of water and a snack bar to take along. That was impressive! It helped us last til supper and save us from a lot of fast fooding! The rooms were very quiet, even tho the motel had no vacancies we were still able to get some extra sleep ! It was just the retreat we were hoping for!!

    « Relaxing location »

Convenient to attractions in both Duluth and Superior this in the highlands overlooking the cities and Lake Superior. The friendly and concerned desk staff helped this traveler locate the property after getting "lost" in the hills of Duluth. The room, with a hot tub, was spacious, airy and quiet. The breakfast was plentiful, the WiFi easy to navigate and there was a never-ending supply of coffee and cookies. For the environmentalists you have the option to save on room service for multi-day stays.

« The best thing this nice place has going for it is... »

...the front desk staff! The hotel is nice and well-kept. But the shining star on this property is Lynne at the front desk. We checked in last night and she was dealing with puddles of water on the floor in front of the check-in (kids were traipsing about in wet swimsuits), she was keeping the fresh cookie jar full, she was checking folks in, she was filling requests to be moved to a non-special needs room (me), and she was doing all of this with a genuine smile and happy spirit. She was at her post again this morning and still smiling, and she said she loves her job. It absolutely shows, Lynne! Oh, and the hotel is a convenient and clean place to stay.

    « Always a Wonderful Stay »

Great location, wonderful hotel and reasonably priced. Very clean and comfortable and the staff is outstanding. We always stay here when we travel to Duluth as they have a shuttle service to Canal Park and back so we don't have to fight the traffic and drive around to try and find parking.

« Best pick for Duluth! »

Whenever we head up north now this is the first place we check for availability. The conversion from their previous franchise was genius! Now this place is our first pick in the entire Duluth area, even beating out the Canal Park and Waterfront places. We used to stay at the Radisson. NO MORE! Basically for the money, there is tremendous value in terms of real estate, fit and finish of the rooms, friendly staff, fantastic breakfast, hotel amenities, PARKING, easy access to the highway. It's a no brainer.

    « Nice hotel »

This hotel is located on a frontage road off the I-35 freeway west of Duluth. It looks fairly new from the outside and is shown as a BW Plus hotel. I don't know what that means, but it might mean that it is purposely build as a BW, and has upgrades such as a pool, etc. In any case we had a double queen room and it was fine. The bathtub/shower is one unit, a plastic fixture. The bathroom has a tile floor and a granite countertop. Everything in the room was in good condition, but it is made of plastic covered particle board, which is inexpensive furniture; I guess I expected better in a BW Plus. Still it all worked and was fine. Breakfast was typical for today's hotels. Our room faced north, the freeway, and was noisy with the traffic, but I did not notice it in the night. The south side of the hotel faces a RR, so I think a room on the north side is better.

« Charged twice for my stay »

Checking in was a hassle. Lady said she couldn't find my reservation even tho I booked it online and had my confirmation #. They finally found my reservation. Found out later on I was charged twice for my room. Trying to get a hold of the manager was a pain she wasn't in. Was told to call back the next day. She was sick and then the following day she was at a conference. Don't get why there wasn't more than one manager Around? It took 4 days to get a hold of the manager and all I wanted was for someone to refund me my money back. Just make sure if you book this place and pay online. When you check in at the hotel double check to make sure you're not getting charged again. Even tho I asked the lady to make sure I wasn't getting charged again. I obviously did. Hotel was nice looking inside and room was decent. Gave em 2 stars cuz of all the check in problems.

« Nice stay in Duluth »

Recently stayed at Best Western Spirit Mountain in Duluth. Good location for on and off freeway. Room was good size and clean. A little dated but good bed and overall no complaints. Helpful, friendly staff. Will plan to stay there again when in Duluth.

    « Most Excellent »

The facilities, staff and cleanliness were all top quality. Combine this with a moderate cost and you have a most excellent place to stay. I will certainly stay here again [it is just minutes out of town, which I prefer for quiet and rest].

    « nice stay »

nice rooms, pleasant staff, good breakfast an easy hotel to get to and was very clean. Quite and very nice rooms, recommend to any one for a short or long stay. It is off a main highway and you cannot hear a thing, well done.

« ok hotel, could use improvements »

The pull out couch was in very bad repair - I found my 8 year son rolled under the couch back cushions in the morning as the head end of the frame was broken/bent, such that there was a huge downslope of the mattress under the back of the couch, which could of been a dangerous situation. The second night I propped the head of the mattress frame up with the couch cushions, so my kids would not roll under the back part of the couch and be lost under the frame. The foot end of the pullout couch frame was also broken/bent, the mattress was lumpy, the blankets were thin and the couch was overall pretty gross/old. My kids basically slept in an inverted "U" and said it was very uncomfortable. In fairness, we did not report it until we left, as we had already moved all of our belongings in to the room, and with 3 children in tow, I really did not want to move rooms, even if offered. The king bed was good repair and was nicely blanketed. The hotel/rooms were pretty hot, we had the air conditioning on all night, even though it was still winter. The pool was ok, but smelled like pee the second time the kids swam (first thing in the morning, when we were the first ones in the pool), so I really did not want them swimming in it. It was improved the second day. Computers in the business suite were old and out of date, but they did work. All in all, the hotel is in need of updating. Staff on the desk were very pleasant and polite. When I requested a plunger for a plugged toilet, it was responded to almost immediately. The room was also clean (I doubt the hotel staff could of improved the couch much, it simply needs to be thrown away and replaced). Breakfast was ok, I have stayed in cheaper hotels in Duluth where there were more hot items offered (ie there was no breakfast meat), so I can't say I was overly impressed, but what was there was fine. Also, the water temp at the showers in the pool area was cold, and in the rooms, you could get one warm shower and everyone there after had a cold shower. All in all it is an ok hotel, but it would not be my first choice in the future.

    « Quick Stop »

We made an overnight stay in Duluth on our way to the Dells. This hotel was perfect. The price was great, location was good, breakfast was included and the staff was excellent. The bed was a little too soft but other that that it was an overall great experience an will most definitely return.

« The Gateway to Duluth! »

Just at the hill overlooking Duluth, Best Western Plus at Spirit Mountain is the gateway to Duluth. The curb appeal is excellent in the front AND the back, the building is rich up-north style inside and out with beautiful stone, evergreen, rich wood, and several huge photographs of Duluth. The rooms are fairly decorated, the linens are thick and white, the beds are comfortable, The hot breakfast is good, the rooms are quiet, the Internet is free and functional, and the pool is lovely and warm All of this is STILL second to the staff; they always accommodate us with room location, with point status, cookies, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and a king size bed to get a nite stand on EACH SIDE of the bed. We come here often and always enjoy our stay.

« Best hotel in area! »

The Best Western Plus is great for family or groups! It's close to Spirit Mountain and Duluth. The value is great and so nice and clean! They treat our group so well, that we'd stay no where else! Our ski and snowboard team feel so welcome every time!

« Nice and clean room, noisy and loud hotel »

We stayed one night and it was enough. Although the room was clean and nice, we can hear the steps on the room above. Your can listen to sounds from all rooms around. Kids were running in the hall knocking on doors and hiding. It looked more a fun house than a hotel. The reception staff was friendly, respectful and welcoming every time. The check in and check out process was fast. In the morning, there wasn't enough tables and food for all the guest staying at the hotel. The breakfast service was poor. I am afraid to recommend this hotel, unless you have a huge family with lots of kids that wouldn't mind being in a loud and remote place. The location is not close to any main attraction in the area.

    « Definitely stay again »

Great price for a spacious clean room with spa tub! Very friendly staff at check-in. When we required additional items for our room, the staff person responded promptly. Good hot breakfast. Only minutes from wherever we wanted to go...downtown / Canal Park.

« Sweet room, but poor privacy of sound »

We booked a room with a king size and ended up in a corner suite which was very nice with two separate areas with the bathroom in between. One area was the main bedroom with the king size bed, dresser, night tables and TV while the other had a large desk, comfy chair, hide-a-bed sofa, chest of drawers and TV. The space between which had the door to the bathroom also had a microwave, counter, coffee maker and fridge. We were very impressed with our room when we arrived and as we spent our evening relaxing. We were not so impressed as we lay in bed trying to sleep and could here people talking as they walked down the hall. Even less impressed when walking overhead at 2:00 AM woke us up, and more unimpressed when someone started to shower. The noise that shower made when it started was like a sick jet engine trying to get up to speed. There must be something wrong with that water heater or something. The bottom line is we arrived tired and left still tired.

« N..A..S..T..Y hotel and HORRIBLE customer service »

We check in on Sunday 02/07 and check out on Friday 02/12. This was a business trip. Even the company CALLED IN ADVANCE asking if they were pet friendly the front desk people were all judging the fact that my dog was with me. The third night we realize that the sheets of BOTH BETHS were dirty, one with blood the other with weird yellow spots, like urine. We didn't call the front desk for that since they already showed their hospitality. When we were checking out, we asked for a late check in and although the hotel was COMPLETELY EMPTY and remained the same after 2PM they refused. I needed to keep working so I went to the "so called" business center to find myself in this horrible smelly room with a noisy fan and barely two outlets. Seriously one OF MY WORSE HOTEL EXPERIENCE, I knew that Best Western was cheap but never though nasty and horrible. Breakfast although free was pretty bad as well. If you will give horrible customer service and filthy rooms at least you should be charging like $20 per day, not what you charge. Duluth visitors TAKE ANY OTHER HOTEL BUT THIS. This should be YOUR LAST OPTION.

« Last minute Valentines Day, his birthday & anniversary weekend trip »

GOOD: The hotel is located right on the edge of Duluth near a small ski hill. Our plans were to explore Duluth in the bitter cold. This was a different trip for us. I was seven days post op surgery for the first time ever. The staff was friendly and our room was located next to the elevator which I actually needed. We chose a king room with separate living area that had two TV's a couch and arm chair. The set up was perfect. There is a pool and hot tub with adult hours from 11pm to midnight. The temps were -14 in the morning with a high in the single digits both days. Indoor activities were bound to happen. Breakfast served from 7-10:30 on both mornings we were there with plenty of both hot and cold options. We opted to skip any housekeeping for our stay but there were 3 options. There is a gym, a nice fireplace seating area and coffee around the clock in the lobby. We usually stay in Grand Marais Best Western and ski Lutsen Mountain (further north) but again no physical activity this trip. Neat, clean, up north feel hotel. We will be back. BAD: The parking lot is extremely small. There were pickup trucks with attached trailers taking up anywhere from 2 to for additional spaces parked diagonally. This is not acceptable. The first night when we came back after dinner we circled the lot three times and there was zero places to park. Since I had surgery and it was bitter cold, slippery and had snow this made the trip from the car to the nearest door virtually impossible. I explained my displeasure with the night staff and all he could do was say he was sorry. Not good enough. The next evening we came back at 5pm to guarantee a parking space. The three employees on duty at that time were shocked at the fact that the young male employee the night before made no effort to rectify the situation. To make a long story short the front desk staff for the overnight shift needs training in customer service and follow through. The women that helped me the second night knew how to handle the situation and made sure it was rectified. I was impressed and told them so. We will definitely stay there again. ABOUT US AND BEST WESTERN IN MINNESOTA: We have stayed in Grand Marais and went skiing at Lutsen. We have stayed in Shakopee and went to Valley Fair in October for my birthday and done Valley Scare (I highly recommend this if you love thrill rides, haunted houses and Halloween). Now we have stayed here and done Duluth in the winter. The canal park area is excellent for foodies, shoppers, beer drinkers and anyone interested in the iron range, local culture and shipping industry.

    « Road Trip »

We stopped here on the way to visit our son in College in Duluth. The price was right, the location was easy access. The room was large a little out dated. Bed was hard but atmosphere was comfortable. Except for the heater. Consider it being January about 4 degrees outside. We set it at 69 degrees and every time it kicked on it was noisy and to blew cold air before warming up. It would not have been so bad but the bed in the room was only like 18 inches away from the vent. So it blew cold air on you while sleeping then warm. The breakfast wasn't that good. It was pretty empty with everything when we got there. nobody aroubnd to fill things. No cups for coffee or juice we set out , bu tdon't worry about the coffe the pots didn't work either.

« Great Hotel for Spirit Mountain Races »

This hotel is a great location for getting to the hill early for races. The breakfast is ready in the morning. The refrigerator and microwave are great to have in the room for snacks and packing lunches. Spacious rooms.

    « Great Stay »

Wonderful hotel with caring staff, just wish there was a restaurant closer to the hotel. Breakfast was very good, hot and with great selection. Was there during bad weather, very helpful staff. I will stay here again and expect the same or even better hotel experience. I was very satisfied.

« Nice one night stay »

Overall the stay at this hotel was a good one. I choose this hotel due to the fact that we only needed a one night stay as we were only going to spend the day in Duluth and see Bentleyville. I believe this is the only one I could find that had that option, otherwise the others were the 2 night min. They were a bit overrun at check in time and one of our rooms was not ready but the staff were courteous and when we checked out we received a discount on that room. The rooms were nice and clean. They offer breakfast and they have a service to take you into town and back (not used by us). There are cookies offered at the desk and coffee/tea/hot chocolate is available at all times. They are about 15 min. away from canal park, right by a gas station and a McDonalds. Subway is across the bridge at another gas station. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you only need one night on a weekend, I usually prefer a lakeview but the options were going fast and so we tried somewhere new to us. It was a great choice.

    « Great place! »

Very nice, clean rooms. Friendly staff. Probably the only downside was that Breakfast time was rather crowded and a small space- food running low at times and lines but it may have been that we went at 10 (it closes at 10:30) and most people had the same idea!

    « Duluth Minnesota Stay »

I had a very enjoyable stay at this property. The front desk clerk went out of her way to assist with questions regarding the tax exemption status of my stay; I am a Federal Employee and experience uncertainty quite often. She was relentless in finding an answer and even remembered me when I returned from dinner to offer me information.

« Nice Hotel After a Long Day »

After a long day, it was nice seeing a warm inviting lobby. The front desk is open 24/7 and the check-in process was quick. The carpets are dated, but clean. The room was bright, well kept and clean, as was the bathroom. The bed sheets were crisp and white and the beds were comfortable. Although available, we did not use the pool or exercise room. A breakfast buffet was provided and consisted of standard fare, although some hot foods were available. The coffee was quite good. Staff were friendly. We will certainly be back.

    « A perfect getaway »

We booked a one-night stay over NYE and were very impressed with the quality and comfort of the hotel. We wished we would have planned to stay longer! Staff were knowledgeable and helpful, and the room was spacious and so comfortable. I've stayed in a lot of different hotels and I was especially impressed with the room layout--everything very intuitive and designed for convenience and comfort. I would definitely go back!

We stayed here with another couple. Booked thru trip advisor. Trip advisor bills your card on the check in. This BW was one of the nicest places I have stayed in a long time. The room was very large and clean. It was very reasonably priced. The breakfast could use some work, There was a good verity of food but the employees couldn't keep help with the amount of people. They offered a ride to the canal for Bentleyville. It was a great place.

« Fun family weekend with friends »

Our family along with four other families stayed at the Best Western Spirit Mountain this past weekend. We were in town to check out Bentleyville and just relax/hangout. The location was perfect, the rooms were clean and quiet, and the pool area was adequate for our needs. Some of the little touches that I appreciated about this hotel was the gluten free bread/english muffins at the breakfast and the cookie jar with fresh cookies at the front desk. Our only complaints were that the pool was really chlorinated. (The kids complained about this throughout the weekend. Red eyes, itchy skin) The other thing was that we weren't allowed into the breakfast nook area to use for our meals unless we wanted to rent it for $25 an hour, even if we promised to clean it up afterwards. With five families sharing meals, it was a bit of a hassle. All in all we would stay here again.

    « Surprised and disappointed »

My wife and I spent Friday night at this property and were quite surprised and disappointed. We recently stayed at BW Plus and Premier properties and had high expectations for Spirit Mt. Duluth. The desk staff at check in was casual to the point of not caring, our room was worn out, the single chair was threadbare, the bed only had one side table and lamp, the clock alarm did not work, the microwave was on the desk rendering it useless and there was no desk chair. When we asked for a working clock the desk attendant didn't think they had a back up and when we returned the clock still did not work. The property was clean enough but the other aspects were underwhelming. We will not be back.

    « girls trip »

had a blast. Clean quiet room. Maybe let maintenance know the bathroom sink faucet is loose in room 230. It still worked fine. Breakfast was very good and the room was nice and quiet. Parking was good. Staff was friendly

« Very Clean and well maintained »

This hotel was very clean and a very nice hotel to stay at for our weekend in Duluth. The breakfast was standard continental breakfast (a couple hot items and make your own belgian waffles as well). Overall it was a great weekend.

    « Great Hotel & Nice Staff »

I stayed at this hotel for a total of 9 nights over two trips close together. The staff was nice, the Holiday next door was nice, and the rooms were good. The pricing made for a great stay with nice facilities.

« Clean, Nice, Friendly hotel »

Rooms are nice an clean, nice they offer shuttle service to canal park/Bentlyville (for Christmas lights) & restaurants, etc. Staff is very friendly, nice and professional. Good location to many attractions, restaurants and events.

« Staff Was Very Helpful »

I stayed at this property at the end of a long business trip. The staff was very helpful when I checked in. The room very was comfortable and very clean as was the rest of the property. They also provided a free shuttle service to local restaurants and to the canal park district.

    « Overlooking Duluth »

Enjoyed our family birthday stay at this hotel. Nice sunny pool area with great breakfast. View of Duluth and St. Louis River. Hotel was clean and well-maintained. Super cool Moose head in Lobby adds nice northwoods flair. Close to McDonalds and Holiday station.

« Nice place but be prepared to have your credit card authorized for $100 for incidentals »

I am a BW employee and therefore always stay in Best Western hotels. This is my first stay at this property. The hotel was clean, comfortable and I had an enjoyable visit with my daughter, who spent the night with me and my son. We had hoped to use the pool, but the water was FREEZING cold. We did enjoy the hot tub which was super hot (but not complaining!) Other than the pool temperature, I was very upset that even though we paid with a credit card, they authorized my card for an additional $100 "for incidentals" (the front desk guy said it was in case people wanted pizza...really???). As a front desk employee at another property myself, we have NEVER NEVER NEVER authorized a guest's card in advance for incidentals unless they paid cash at the time off check in. Nor have I ever been authorized for incidentals at ANY hotel I've ever been to, including dozens of properties in the UK, Iceland, France or any other Duluth area Best Westerns. I did email the manager about this issue, but my email was ignored. So, be prepared to have your credit card authorized an extra $100 "for pizza" when you stay here.

    « Stay with Grandchildren »

The hotel was average at best and we love the location. Our stay is usually in the fall with our grandchildren and they look forward to swimming. The pool was VERY COLD. We ended up getting coughs and colds a couple of days later. Not a good experience this year. The price was too high for the hotel.

    « A very nice hotel »

I would stay at this hotel again. If you want a "view" it isn't, but the staff were so helpful and friendly and our room was great. We were directed to an excellent restaurant close by. Breakfast offered options and a staff person supporting it.

    « Duluth Stay »

We stayed at this hotel for a 1 night stay. The hotel location was convenient right off the highway and is a 5 mile drive to Duluth downtown. Overall, a pleasant stay and what you would expect in a hotel of this class. Breakfast was decent and had a good variety.

    « Best Western Plus »

Comfortable beds/bedding. Nice to have a mini fridge. It was nice to have a check out a noon.(but, since has changed to 11 am. Could use a little updating. Location was good for the Spirit Mt Location.

    « our stay »

we had a wonderful stay, everything was clean, everyone was helpful- also the beds were unbelievable comfortable. The breakfast was good. Having the option to use the shuttle to bring us into canal park, so that we could enjoy a couple of drinks without worrying about driving, was such a nice plus. We had a suite, which was so nice to have the separate bedroom, so we had separation from the kids.

« Clean, comfortable and convenient »

Spent the night in Duluth on our way home from Michigan. The location was convenient and the room was both large and clean. The staff recommended a great restaurant for dinner and the continental breakfast was great. Will stay again for sure.

    « Lake Superior Trip »

The hotel is located in a great area in that it is close to all the attractions and beautiful scenery. We were upgraded to a suite upon arrival because of our Best Western points. The staff on all shifts were friendly and helpful! However, the breakfast buffet was limited and the eating area was very small. Since breakfast is not a break or make for us, we survived! We extended our stay to a third day! I would recommend this property to anyone this area!

« Good value and location »

The motel is located at the south end of the Skyline Parkway. The motel is located a short drive to downtown. That saves money. The downside is that parking in the Canal District is not cheap. Good value. Quick and easy access to the interstate highway
