"poor service and declining quality"

2
131steffenb, Langenargen, Germany 03/04/2022

I have been traveling to Leyland since 2006 and have stayed at this hotel many times. I wrote my last review for this hotel in 2015 which wasn't bad but I have to update it because the quality has gone down. The best times of the hotel are a few years back. Last week I was there the first time after the pandemic started and was disappointed of the actual situation in there. The rooms are okay, but not clean. There are loose parts in the bathrooms and mold in the corners. My room was not cleaned once during my 4 nights stay. Before the pandemic there was a leisure club with swimming pool, Jacuzzy sauna, steam room and gym available, which is all closed now. But prices haven't gone down... The quality of the breakfast has gone in the same direction as the rest of the hotel. The carpark is controlled via “Parking-Eye” now, which is annoying, can get the guest into expensive trouble and underlines the primitive standard. The service at the front desk was bad. Early check-out in the morning was not possible, nor the evening before, although I had asked for it.

Russell Sansome, Guest Services / Front Office at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear 131steffenb We apologies for your experience and Hope to welcome you back to the hotel once we open again to the general public. Kind Regards Russell Sansome F&B Manager

I arrived today. I'm staying for 3 nights. The hotel is nice. The food was good. I was disappointed by reception. When I wanted to add soft drinks to my room it was made pretty awkward - it didn't need to be! The receptionist made an error and was curt to boot but didn't even have the good graces to apologise - such a shame! I'm here for another couple of nights so maybe they might redeem themselves.

Bhoy1888, Portlaoise, Ireland 26/03/2022

A Gtoup of us arrived over from Ireland force funeral service last week . What can I say ? Only thanks to all the staff for been so helpful with all our needs . Especially the receptionist Faye from the moment we arrived Thursday till our departure on Saturday. She was amazing nothing was too much trouble for her. She was helping the team anywhere she could and was everywhere we needed her. From directions,at bar taking orders(special dietary requirements to organising a breakfast in bed .Fixing a foor, activating key cards I could go on and on she was everywhere but still at the desk when needed. All our party commented on her in a good way . So friendly and efficient if I was her boss I'd triple her wages and get her to work more than two days a week . We had a funeral function in the hotel on the Friday it was well organised food was great . We all had two breakfasts and maybe 4 other meals there two so spent a a good bit of Time in the hotel and spent a lot of money but it was well worth it . I'd give it 10/10 only for the draught beers variety and quality need improvement. Yes they are drinkable but should be a bit better . Rooms are small but practical and very clean

We stayed for one night and the hotel receptionist Olivia was extremely helpful and chatty and she looked after us for our evening meal with our dietary requirements which was AMAZING. Bev at breakfast was fabulous and so helpful even gave me a hug!!!. Fab hotel, good location and walked into leyland, on recommendation from Olivia and had a fab night. The food was soooo good and filling would definitely stay here again.

I was responsible for organising a dinner dance for our district scouting area in celebration of Lord Robert Baden Powells Birthday. My choice of venue was Preston Leland Hotel and it turned out to be the perfect venue. The staff helped me through the whole process from car-parking, reception, entertainment, food choice and, room rates for those wishing to stay overnight. I can't speak highly enough of the staff at his venue, they were perfect in every way.

We stayed at the hotel with our two children during February half term. The staff, in particular Faye, Bev and Russell were extremely helpful. The rooms were clean and well stocked and the beds were comfortable. The drinks were reasonably priced and the breakfast was cooked well. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again. Thank you for a very enjoyable stay.

Stayed for a few nights the hotel is very clean and had a nice welcome here however the noise here at night wasn't great got woken up several times in the night hallways smell of smoke even know they say its none smoking here didn't get around to the bar so can't comment think the staff could do more for you but they seem to pick and choose who they like in all honesty I prefer premier inn Some staff members here seem to look down on you I really wouldn't recommend it I'd also suggest others check the other reviews on here as the staff seem to have a bad attitude

Easy to book. Found the website informative. Pictures of the pool but not noted in the facilities. This I believe is not in use so really images should be removed to avoid confusion. Booking was easy and looking forward to stay tomorrow night. Hopefully rooms are a nice standard. A few people have mentioned upgrading but I could see any option for this. Cost seem very reasonable. Location seem good for stop over. Close to the motorway, just outside the town. Seems lots of bars/restaurants in the area. Could be a little gem if the experience lives up to the potential. I will let you know!

Been to this hotel 4x when it was a Hallmark. Enjoyed all 4 times. Booked this time thinking it would be the same but disappointing to be told spa was out of use. Evening meal was delicious and really enjoyable. Receptionist and bar staff all polite and engaging. Coffee was dish water. Sad we won't be back as the main reason to visit was a relaxing evening in the spa after a busy week followed by food and drink.

2 night stay visiting family in Leyland. Great location with easy access to the surrounding area. Taking into consideration the cost of accommodation the hotel was perfect for our stay. The room was clean and comfortable, the staff were very friendly and helpful. If you pay a visit to the hotel you must visit Beverly when you have breakfast. Beverly make a joyful start to your day. Would stay again.

Checked in around 11:45am on the Monday 14th to do a couple of bits in the room to get it ready as I approached the reception desk I was greeted with a “Russel” who sort of looked me up and down as I was only in leggings and an oversized jumper, then he start checking me in on the computer but the phone rang so he answered and started dealing with someone else's enquiry over the phone which I found very rude as he'd started dealing with me first and I was waiting nearly 10 minutes for him to finish with the phone call. Then when I went upstairs the sides were full of dust it looked like it hadn't been wiped down for a good while, hair in the bathroom that definitely wasn't mine as I've got ginger hair it was black and brown hair. Stayed over, the bed was comfy don't get me wrong however wasn't happy with the morning either. I revived 2 calls to the phone inside the room at 8:45am we'd had a late night and check out wasn't till 11am, then received another call at 9am as I'd just got back to sleep. About 20 minutes later I was woken up again to housekeeping knocking on the door to then letting themselves in. We clearly hadn't checked out and they'd just let themselves in. Checked out around 10:20am and gave my concerns to “Russel” who'd dealt with me yesterday, never once apologised for what went on if anything he took tone with me and just asked for the payment and that was it. Really disappointed, won't be recommending and certainly won't be staying again.

First experience of BW. Regarded well in Leyland. Nice ambiance in lounge bar are, some very big chairs! Good bar food offering. Paid a little extra for an upgrade and the room was very nice. Huge comfortable bed, good pillows. Large multi type shower with drench. Go for exec room Free water no gown. Main issue is poor selection of TV channels - great for kids! WiFi signal good Overall a good stay .

"Mixed bag - OK for the price paid...."

User 06/02/2022

Positives - very friendly and attentive bar staff and warm comfortable room. Some of the evening meal was warm/hot, some breakfast items were warm/tepid - however, good choice. Room warm and comfortable. Negatives - breakfast staff more interested in smartphone than taking care of guests (waited 3-4 minutes for staff to appear to take to table (only two other guests at breakfast) and then got shown to table and that's about it. Felt a bit like I was getting in the way of more important things. Room had s few fixings coming out of the walls and was generally grubby, however, more to do with decor than dirt. 'Boy racer' load exhausts outside into the late evening - really annoying, but not a direct issue with the hotel. Some breakfast items cold (although did dine towards the end of breakfast period). Some dinner items cold. To be honest, for the price paid, this was not a bad experience and have paid more for less previously. Obviously, the cost of the stay has to weigh in on the score. Had this been one of the 100+ rooms, the total experience would have received a lower score.

"Lovely hotel resulting in a great 2 night stay"

4
alisonn1973, Warrington, United Kingdom 31/01/2022

Having just returned from a 2 night stay i can honestly say this was a lovely hotel, staff all extremely friendly, knowledgeable about surrounding areas, quick reasonably price bar service and the food in the restaurant was lovely. It is a large hotel and all communal areas are well looked after and clean. The room we stayed in could have done with a little TLC as it was a bit outdated but had everything in it we needed. It would have been nice to have a room service option for breakfast. Thanks to the team though for a great stay.

"Satisfactory stay"

5
User 31/01/2022

Clean, comfortable and reasonable. Rooms a little small could do with a fridge but adequate. Twin Rooms very small upgrade same size room but more comfortable. Room was a long way from reception please note for all who are not nimble on their feet. Take your own glasses or request one from the bar. Loads of parking have to fill in a screen at reception. A bit noisy in the bar when a party on plus loads of children running about the area.

"Beautiful but rooms let it down"

3
lauracrook1981, Manchester, United Kingdom 31/12/2021

This place is gorgeous in communal areas but rooms let it down. Bathrooms need an overhaul shower heads like I would see in a poor quality hotel in Greece. Beds way past their best. Beautiful curtains and decor but with next curtains that look like they have been soaked in tea. Yuk. Strip lighting behind the bed damaged. Needs alot of tlc to match the communal areas

Picked this hotel as a treat for my wife's birthday. on arrival was told that the Spa was not usable due to a maintenance issue, so a big disappointment. Food and service was very good, certain parts of the hotel could do with a bit of tidying up, ripped dirty wallpaper, paint needs touching up etc leading to the rooms just silly things that spoilt it.

3
Nhabber, Pontefract, United Kingdom 21/11/2021

The food was extremely over priced and the quality wasn't worthy of the price. I had fish and chips and they were not pleasant. Claggy batter that resembled soggy bread. Also not much choice of food and the drink was a bit pricey.

"Last minute break"

4
User 15/11/2021

This break was booked less than 24 hours previously via the MyHotelBreak site for 2 nights Dinner, Bed & Breakfast. Located just off the M6 junction with a large free car park for residents so this was a big plus. It's also only around a 10-15 minute walk from Leyland train station (we used this to go to Blackpool for the day on the Sunday, around a 30min journey each way). The hotel is looking a bit tired externally, however the interior is very grand and attractive and seems to have many conference & function areas - there was a wedding happening on the Sunday. The room was a double however this was actually 2 singles together - this wouldn't have been such an issue if it was a double mattress but it was 2 single mattresses with a double/king size sheet over meaning there was an uncomfortable dip up the middle. Very modern style room and shower room with double size walk-in shower (no bath so you may want to clarify if you need a room with a bath before booking). The room had plenty sockets and even USB sockets for easy charging of mobile phones, etc. There was ample wardrobe space for storing clothes for a 2 night stay. Ironing board & iron in a cupboard (sneakily hidden in a cupboard hidden behind a full length mirror so we didn't realise it was there initially!). A couple of niggles related to details on the MyHotelBreak site rather than with the hotel itself - it listed an iPod docking station as a facility but there wasn't one, and although there are spa facilities - pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna - on arriving at hotel for check-in were advised these were closed. When I checked Best Western's own website listing for this hotel, it did say the facilities weren't open. The room was also quite warm even overnight and with a window open but there were no temperature controls in the room. The receptionist had advised breakfast times of 7:30-10:30am - we arrived for breakfast at 10am on Sunday, however on the Monday we arrived at the same time to find the breakfast room empty and all breakfast food cleared, no staff around to ask. I assume breakfast is served earlier on weekdays but this wasn't specified on check-in - although she was aware we were staying 2 nights. Overall, this was a very comfortable hotel, in a great location as either a base for visiting other places or for a stop before onward travel. Would recommend

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear dexfoo, Thank you for taking the time to share the feedback of your recent stay. I am pleased to read that it was a comfortable one. "Funny Smell and Poor Steaks"

3
Penny C, Chesterfield, United Kingdom 08/11/2021

Myself and my husband stayed here over the weekend - Saturday to Monday. We had booked via Wowcher and one of the things that appealed was a late checkout time of 2pm. This was a waste of time since hoovering was taking place right outside our room at 8.15am thereby removing that lazy morning that we had planned. We also had a knock on the door at 9am from Housekeeping!! We ate at the hotel both evenings. The first evening very good. The second was mixed. Lovely soup but chewy calamari and they definitely do not know how to cook a steak. Asked for medium rare but it was at best medium. There is an air freshener being used which gives a really weird smell in the main bar area too. I mentioned it was strong and Iwas not taken seriously at all. The room was freezing when we entered and I had to adjust the radiator valve from off. Not a great start although I do understand they would try to save the planet by reducing power used. On the whole I won't be going back.

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear Penny C, Thank you for offering feedback of your recent stay. I am sorry that your experience was mixed. I will discuss the feedback you have offered with the hotel team in order that we can continue to improve the experience that we offer to our guests. "Fantastic stay !"

nissanessex, Essex 25/10/2021

I arrived late evening with a group after a long & stressful day's travelling . Scott greeted us and he and his team swiftly checked in our group and directed customers to their rooms. The bar was open and was a welcome retreat after a long day. The staff at the hotel are amazing . Nothing was too much trouble and our whole stay was delightful. The team work really well together and breakfast was efficient, tasty and food regularly replenished when necessary. Too many hotels hide behind covid as an excuse for poor customer service, but this hotel gets 5* for hospitality from me. Well done to you all - you cracked it !!

"Very Nice"

User 20/10/2021

I came from the USA and chose this hotel because of the reasonable rates and was to spend 2 weeks in Leyland. My reason for visiting was to meet my family after my fathers death during covid and it was the first oppertunity to come after lockdown. Staying in a hotel in my hometown was a strange experience for me and I was nervous about it. When I arrived the staff were terrific, I had some minor issues with my room that they dealt with without question, my original booking was for two weekends and I quickly booked the rest of my days here because I felt at home in this hotel, the staff have been nothing but helpful and polite and I will continue to book my stay here on all future visits

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review

"Fantastic staycation!"

5
Perfect1958, Scotland, United Kingdom 18/10/2021

Having decided to have a staycation this year, along with my wife and daughter I spent 4 wonderful nights here on a bed and breakfast basis. I must say the staff here are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble for them. They ensured my family and I had a fantastic stay. The room at the hotel was modern and clean, the quality of breakfast was fantastic all appearing to be freshly cooked and is served in a buffet style, sometimes a wait for sausage and bacon but as it was cooked fresh the wait is well worth it. I really can't fault this hotel at all and I will definitely be back in the future. The location of this hotel is also superb with lots of major attractions in close proximity, during our stay we visited, the pleasure beach, Knowsley safari, the Trafford centre and Southport all within a 30 minute drive. Once again I would like to thank the staff at this wonderful hotel for providing my family and I with a fantastic holiday experience especially through these troubled times, all too often the hospitality industry are being criticised these days but the staff here did a wonderful job, thank you!!

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear Perfect1958, Thank you so much for your feedback. It is wonderful to read that you and your family had an enjoyable stay with us. ianksoulsurfer, Tiverton, United Kingdom 06/10/2021

we have stayed in several hotels and found this to be a problem in both breakfast and dinner options. The meals may be the sort of things that most people like to eat when going out for as meal but do not constitute a balanced diet. the best wester did not the only one with this problem

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear ianksoulsurfer, Thank you for your feedback, we will take this on board when reviewing our menu offering. Regards, Richard General Manager

Visiting faimily.Have stayed at a few hotels in the area and we came across this one - have to say it exceeded expectations - may become a regular one to stay at. Lovely sized room, good breakfast (English buffet). The beds were really good and comfy - I suffer usually in hotels, and friends joke that i should be a mattress tester!

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear Angie G, Thank you for sharing your feedback, I am so pleased you had a comfortable stay, I very much look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Regards, Richard General Manager

"Don't bother!!"

michele j, Harrogate, United Kingdom 02/10/2021

We arrived today first thing we were told we were room only no actually we were bed and breakfast!! Following that we were told was restaurant is full if you want to eat you can order at the bar before 6pm!! This was at 5pm!! So in effect no time to get washed, changed or drop bags in the room. Walked down a long corridor to our room which absolutely stank of cigarette smoke. Went back to reception to complain to the duty manager about food situation and cigarette smoke and said we didn't think it was good enough. He quickly became aggressive and said the hotel is full I will give you your money back. We had driven 80 miles to get here absolutely disgusted this is the second best western I have stayed in and had appalling service!! Never again. We booked a taxi and ate out!!!

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear michele j, Thank you for offering feedback of your recent stay. I am very sorry that you were disappointed. I am sure whether you had booked room only or bed and breakfast was very swiftly remedied with your confirmation? During your stay, the hotel was fully booked and this included the restaurant, as such anyone who had not pre booked a dinner inclusive package or a time for dinner was offered bookings around those that had. I am sorry that this was not suitable for you. I am sorry that other guests chose to break the law by smoking in the hotel, we police this as best we can but as you will appreciate, people go to all kinds of lengths to go undetected! Our team are here to look after our guests and strive to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The feedback received from the manager on duty differs from your account and whilst I appreciate opinions will vary, I understand your partner was rude and a little 'spikey' during the conversation so you were offered options, of which a refund was one. I am sorry if this was not taken in the manner it was intended. Regards, Richard General Manager

"Really disappointing stay"

SLSL4888, Leeds, United Kingdom 02/10/2021

Nice reception and bar area, with friendly staff throughout. Rooms were really tired, the worst I've seen in a hotel for a long time. Not particularly clean and smelled really musty. Food at dinner was reasonable, breakfast was really poor......stone cold mushrooms inedible.

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear SLSL4888, Thank you for sharing your feedback, I am very sorry indeed that you were disappointed with your stay. I hope we can welcome you back in the future to restore your faith in us. Regards, Richard General Manager

"Avoid!!"

Ruth L, Winchester, United Kingdom 01/10/2021

We recently stayed at this hotel as part of a longer trip in the UK. I chose the hotel because it boasts a restaurant and also a bar that serves meals and we planned to entertain our relatives who live locally to the hotel. I was absolutely appalled to discover on check in late afternoon, after a very long journey from Hampshire, that there would be no food available to residents at all that evening due to a function and coach parties. No bar food, no restaurant, no room service.  I was told there were plenty of local restaurants I could go to.  What made matters worse was that morning I had received a welcome email from the hotel boasting about all the services awaiting me, including a full listing of the room service menu. I think anyone booking a 4 star hotel with a restaurant and bar service should reasonably expect food to be available to residents, if only a sandwich.  At the very least, someone should have contacted me and explained the situation before I arrived so I could prepare an alternative plan.  As it was, the woman on reception was distinctly unhelpful and would only tell me to go into Leyland where there were restaurants.  No offer to find out what I wanted and book somewhere for me. I subsequently raised my issues with the general manager who said they were fully booked like any restaurant and suggested that I should have booked dinner, bed and breakfast instead of just bed and breakfast...really??? In a 4 star hotel??? When it came to entertaining our relatives the following night, we were told we couldn't have a table until 8pm (another function, more coach parties). I was also distinctly unimpressed with the cleanliness of our room where there was dust thick enough to write in on the base of the standard lamp, dead flies on the windowsill and one of the twin beds was not made up. None of the housekeeping staff I saw were wearing masks in the corridors

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear Ruth L, Thank you for sharing your feedback on TripAdvisor. Since reopening the hotel in May 2021 we have looked after a large number of guests who have had an enjoyable and comfortable stay. Unfortunately, I understand that even with every effort we will not always be successful. Unfortunately as we have communicated previously, the hotel was fully booked, the restaurant was fully booked. As you had neither booked on a dinner inclusive package or booked a table for dinner we do not save tables on the off chance that every guest will want to dine with us. I am sorry if this is disappointing to you. Similarly, when wishing to entertain your relatives, we offered times that we had available as other guests had booked tables you were offered what was available. Of course had you been in touch, prior to arrival, we may have had other times available. I share your disappointment regarding the housekeeping. At the time of your stay it is not necessary to wear a face covering in hotels, we have given the team the option - those working in particularly physical roles (such as housekeeping) on the whole have decided not to wear face coverings. Kind regards, Richard General Manager

"Poor Hotel"

Recently stayed here whilst on a Bakers Dolphin Coach Package. Whilst the staff were very polite and accommodating, the hotel rooms were poor. I have uploaded pictures to clearly show the issues. We raised the issues with Bakers and are currently awaiting a reponse.

Anne D, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania 25/09/2021

Stopped here for the night on our way back north. Easy to find the hotel, very close to motorway exit. Room was a little tired, not sure this hotel lives up to BW Signature collection. We had a nice dinner in the bar but opted to skip breakfast.

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear Anne D, Thank you for sharing your feedback, I am pleased you had a comfortable stay with us and hope we can welcome you back again in the future. Regards, Richard General Manager

"Worst hotel experience ever"

1
Mevapaul, Cornwall, United Kingdom 24/09/2021

Very poor standard. Room was small, smelt damp, and was in need of redecoration and a new bed. Breakfast was ok but no orange juice just squash and no decaffinated tea. Could not possibly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear Mevapaul, Thank you for offering feedback following your recent stay. I am very sorry indeed that you were disappointed. I know that we have never offered squash at breakfast in place of orange juice. I do hope that we are able to welcome you back to the hotel in the future in an attempt to restore your faith in us. Regards, Richard General Manager

"Lovely staff, shame about the hotel! A Vegetarian's view"

2
Buddhaman, Isleham, United Kingdom 23/09/2021

Arrived at the hotel as part of a coach trip on 9th September 2021 for 4 nights. General initial appearance of hotel was a bit tired, gloomy and the Staff looked stressed. Our room was in the basement, and again was looking tired and gloomy, but other than that was clean and ok. The leisure centre and spa was closed and unlikely ever to open again! We were also told there would be no room service, so we were told to make our own beds and collect towels, toilet rolls etc. from reception as required. This was due to chronic staff shortages. The food was the big issue. As part of a coach party we were on a restricted menu, so meat eaters got 3-4 choices, vegetarians got one hot meal (there was a salad option but sometimes had ham in it!). It always consisted of a meal such as pasta or risotto which wasn't a balanced meal. Previous complaints on Tripadvisor were answered by the Management by stating that if problems were brought up early then they could easily be resolved. So we did. We asked every day if we could have all the vegetables that others had, plus a vegetarian alternative to their meat. Nothing happened. It was only on the Sunday, when Roast was on the menu that we had a paltry amount of vegetables and nothing else. It was disgraceful and insulting. Other members of the party were also unhappy with the food, but not inclined to complain. The drinks seemed expensive, but Hotels generally are, and there was quite a lot of noise due to the fact there were two weddings there during our stay. The one saving grace was the staff (except the kitchen staff who were deaf to our requests). They were very polite, helpful and understanding, but were obviously working under pressure due to shortage of staff. Some parts of the hotel were very nice ie. the restaurant and you could tell it had seen better times, but it looked like a place in decline.

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear Buddhaman, Thank you for sharing your feedback. I am very sorry indeed that we were unable to meet your requests on this occasion. I will discuss your feedback with the team as from your description there is no reason that we could not have met your requests regarding dinner choice. For now, we are not servicing rooms daily, this is not due to staff shortages but forms part of our Covid risk assessment in an attempt to protect both our team and our guests. I do hope we can welcome you back in the future in order to restore your faith in us. Should you be looking to return, please contact me directly and I will ensure your requirements are dealt with personally. Regards, Richard General Manager

"Like a prison cell"

1
mikeomputers, New Ferry 22/09/2021

All the pictures online where of beautiful rooms with super king size beds. I arrived to be given a room in the cellar with old worn furniture a small double bed that you could feel the springs in and ripped sides. I was disgusted. I had paid for 2 nights and could not stay I was told all beds are the same in other rooms. I didn't stay any longer than 10 minutes. I'd rather stay in Walton prison. I was looking for Bronsons or the Krays names carved in the cell walls.

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear mikeomputers, Thank you for sharing your feedback, I am sorry that you were disappointed. All booking websites show all our room types including the rooms that you refer to on the ground floor. As you didn't give the team opportunity to move your room, I feel it is particularly unfair to describe the hotel in the manner you have. Regards, Richard General Manager

"Great location, the rest leaves a lot to be desired"

2
mariepeacock, Kendal, United Kingdom 20/09/2021

The grounds were looked after, however unable to understand what kind of decor this hotel is going for. A mix of weird statues and things that just didn't fit in. The room was dark, needed better lighting. And so hot, as soon as you walked up the stairs you felt the heating hit you in such an uncomfortable way. Slept with the window wide open all night and it was still stuffy. The bed was so uncomfortable, and the pillows weren't a great choice of stiffness. The breakfast wasn't great - The waitress with the red hair was the only positive thing about breakfast. The coffee was vile, bacon had no flavour. Scrambled eggs bland as hell, mushrooms tasted like they'd come out of a tin - rubbery and plain. Apple juice extremely watered down. Overall wasn't a great experience and wouldn't choose to stay here again, but it is well located just off the M6 so I'lll give them that.

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear mariepeacock, Thank you for offering feedback of your recent stay. I am very sorry indeed that you were disappointed. I do hope that you will give us the opportunity to look after you again in order to restore your faith in us. Many thanks, Richard General Manager

FacepainterUK, Darwen 13/09/2021

Our stay was comfortable, the staff were so hospitable and helpful. The corridor and room were HOT but we located the fan in the wardrobe, and the bathroom switch was not in an obvious place for a disabled friendly room so made night visits difficult. But these were my only gripes about the modern clean room xx neither of which staff can influence x The booking in was easy and staff helpful in recommeding a local taxi firm. The evening food service struggled for food being ready from the kitchen but was otherwise great. Breakfast was great although items like pastries and eggs had ran out. It was also strange that hot drinks were not self service

"People smoking weed in the rooms"

1
User 10/09/2021

People being allowed to smoke weed in the rooms is unacceptable which resulted in two fire evacuations at 23.00 and 01.00am due to alarms being set off. Staff did nothing to remove or find the culprits they just ushered people back into hotel with an off the cuff apology.

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear Dream20298542199, Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that you were disturbed. As you will appreciate the fire alarm system is there for a very good reason, whilst not every activation of the alarm is necessary, I personally would rather err on the side of caution when lives are potentially involved. "Last minute night away"

steve89104, northumberland 02/09/2021

Had to find a hotel at the last minute and took a chance on Preston Leyland Hotel. Easy to find off motorway. Needs some money spent on outside. The room 211 was very small but adequate for a 1 night stay. Had obviously just been renovated with modern features. Very clean. Used the bar for evening meal and restaurant for breakfast which was excellent.

"Awful"

1
Molkovina, Essex 31/08/2021

Went here on a coach trip for four nights. There is no lift and my friend and I were out on different floors despite being on the same booking. My room was disgustingly dirty and smelly with a dirty carpet and hair in the plug holes. I was moved to a cleaner but equally smelly and dingy room when I complained. I dreaded going in there. Furniture is old and musty so you wouldn't want to put anything in the wardrobe or drawers. The smell of stale water pervaded the room and seems to get worse even with the window permanently open. It was stifling In there with no air con or fan provided. Drinks at the bar, including coffee etc. are overpriced, like many hotels I suppose, but I thought £3.80 for a morning coffee was a bit steep. Service is very hit and miss as well as being extremely slow. There are also no facilities as the pool and spa are closed with varying explanations as to why. Avoid at all costs!!!

"Would stay again "

Facefeeder, Durham 30/08/2021

A better class of hotel. I was here with business and it's a definite step up from a travelodge type. Nice room, lovely restaurant. Breakfast was ok, nice setting and served well but the sausages could have been better. Over all a good trip and would stay again.

"Not impressed"

User 30/08/2021

Really good night then i went outside for a cigarette and a member of staff called Nathan was smoking out the front whilst on the phone then a member of staff called martin asked him politly if he could please come in and help and Nathan started swearing at martin stating hes been rushed off his feet like a tw*t. I was very shocked to hear this language off a member of staff and martin went back inside and nathan carried on the phone. If you don't mind staff arguing and swearing then this is the place to go. Martin then apologised for nathans foul language and offered us a complimentary drink but i just wanted to go to bed

Great help from the night team. Arrived late and found I had no booking due to booking site not paying for it after taking muly money. Night Manager Martin was super helpful in sorting it out and did me a good turn. Very grateful. Short but comfortable stay.

"Third floor rooms need refurbished"

3
LornaAIreland, Ireland, UK 25/08/2021

First impression the hotel looked fine ,plenty of parking and easy to find just off the motorway. We were given a key to the third floor and we were amazed that there was no lift . We were in England for a few weeks so we had a large suitcasevand a smaller one and as we are both in our seventies I went back to the receptionist and asked could someone help us with the luggage . She did find someone but my husband had already carried it up. The first thing we noticed was how tired and shabby the third floor was ,but when we opened our room we couldn't believe how dirty it was . The window ledge was covered with dead flies and seeds from trees and when we wiped the bedside tables they were filthy. We took the wipes we'd used to receptionist and she agreed that wasn't acceptable. She offered to have it cleaned but we asked if we could have a better room or an upgrade . First she said there were no spare rooms but we could pay for an upgrade . We said we didn't feel we should as the room was not up to standard . We went out to buy some water and when we came back there was a different receptionist who had upgraded us to the ground floor and what a difference! Clean and modern with a large flat screen Tv , excellent shower and modern clean bathroom. This was an upgrade but it was only what I would expect of a normal,Hotel room. We didn't eat in the hotel so I can't comment on that but all I can advise is dont,go to rooms on the third floor as any we saw looked very shabby.

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear LornaAIreland, Thank you for offering feedback following your recent stay with us. I am pleased that following your complimentary upgrade you were pleased with the allocated bedroom. I hope we are able to welcome you back again soon to demonstrate the cleanliness of the first room you were allocated, certainly is not the norm. Regards, Richard General Manager

"Several Little Blunders - One Big One"

2
David H, Malvern, England 23/08/2021

The hotel looks impressive and the you enter a spacious reception area and are offered complimentary hot drinks - but why were they turned off for the rest of our 2 night stay ? Secondly they cannot order a newspaper for you - call themselves 4 star ? Thirdly they will not take cash - surely that's our national currency - they are big enough to have 2 tills. No help with baggage offered. Room just about Ok - decent size TV but small bathroom. TCMF tray did not have biscuits - call yourselves 4 star ? We were with a coach party and were not allowed to have food from the normal menu instead we were offered a 4 course fixed menu. And here the hotel sunk to it's lowest point. Breaded mushrooms starter - THREE minute mushrooms on a large plate with NO mushrooms inside ! Beef lasagna that had NO beef with garlic bread that resembled an over cooked pancake. Smoked haddock fishcake that was just potato. At breakfast baked beans served COLD ! I realise that for coach parties there is sometimes a special menu - but this dinner menu was way below the lowest budget food you could get - I would not insult refugees with such shoddy food. Restaurant service from the waiting staff was excellent - they really deserved to be able to present a considerably better food offering to their customers - instead of having to take the brunt of the complaints back to the kitchen where there were obviously no chefs, simply microwave operators. And hwy serve coffee beofre you serve the sweet course ?

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear David H, Thank you for offering your feedback. Many of the aspects you have highlighted form control measures of our risk assessment, not taking cash, not helping with bags (unless a guest is unable to carry their luggage). We offer group reservations a drink on arrival, the machines are not there for you to help yourself to throughout your stay. I am sorry that we disappointed you with dinner, typically the feedback we receive is very positive so it is a shame this is not the same where you are concerned on this occasion. I do hope we are able to welcome you back again soon. Regards, Richard General Manager

"WARNING PARKING FINES"

1
User 22/08/2021

Don't stay here if you bring a car. You will get a parking fine even if you give reception you car registration at check in. I'm £60 down despite contacting the hotel and best Western numerous times. They have hired a private company to enforce parking in the car park don't hand over registration plate details of guests. Really poor experience

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear Guy H, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. You are quite right that the car park is monitored for those who are not patrons of the hotel, it is not there to catch out genuine guests. As such we have arranged for the charge to be cancelled and the amount you paid refunded. Reception direct guests to enter registration details in the terminals on reception, we do not take them from our guests. I do hope we can welcome you back again soon. User 20/08/2021

Stayed in room 316, room cleanish....but bare bones. The room looked very sparse and the window area and curtains were grubby. Slept okay bed was clean. At breakfast, didnt really enjoy seeing lots of greasy eggs and undercooked sausages. Staff were nice, i didnt report the problems.......these stem of being tired for a long time so not a lot can be corrected immediately if already neglected, buck up your ideas Best Western. In all honesty, Premier inn and Travelodge both better options if you want fresh and clean.

"Birthday treat"

Rebecca F, Merseyside 19/08/2021

We stayed for 1 night for a birthday treat, groupon deal, we had room 216, which was nice but not the room shown on the groupon post. The room was nice though, very modern, nice shower, no bath though. The bed was very comfortable, pillows awful though. We had our main meal in the bar area as there was a function on in the restaurant, this was nice and quiet. Breakfast was a buffet style, which is great, but some of the sausages were very undercooked, the bacon was very nice, plenty of cereals, juice. Overall a nice stay, maybe a couple of little extras for birthday/special occasions would be nice.

After reading some reviews on here I faced my 3 day trip with some trepidation. However, I have to say that I found the hotel to be clean, well maintained and comfortable. the staff were incredibly helpful the breakfasts were very good and the parking was no problem whatsoever. I had room 129 which was lower ground and it was excellent. I can recommend the hotel without question and will stay again if I am on the area.

"Overpriced and disappointing, avoid!"

2
rachelmE3369TB, Edinburgh, United Kingdom 09/08/2021

This stay was a night booked through Groupon - £85 for dinner, breakfast and late checkout, booked as a treat for my partner and myself. This seemed like a brilliant deal and having checked photos and some reviews online we were really excited for our stay. As we had booked through Groupon the day before our arrival I called the hotel to ask if we needed to book a table in the restaurant for our meal but were told no, if the restaurant was full we would be seated in the bar - great! Upon our arrival there was a wedding party in the bar/ reception area, this made it a little difficult to check in due to the noise but we were told that the party would be moving to a function suite shortly and we would be able to return to this area for dinner in an hour or so. Again I asked if we should book a table and we were told no as there was plenty seating in the bar. So, after settling in to our room we returned downstairs and asked if we could be seated for dinner, as expected the restaurant was full and so we were sat in the bar. While waiting for our order to be taken the wedding party were sent out of the function suite back into the bar - immediately crowding the area and the bar with guests, the poor bar staff were inundated and this resulted in nobody coming to take our order at all. Eventually I managed to get to the bar and asked if we would be able to order and take the food to our room as it would just not have been a pleasant experience eating in the middle of a wedding reception with guests squeezing past our table every couple of minutes. The bar staff were very accommodating in this and to save on the £5 tray charge we waited in the bar for our food before taking it up to our room. I will interject here to say that the room itself had no issues other than being very hot and stuffy (we discovered a fan in the wardrobe the next morning) - having seen mixed reviews on this I suspect it is just certain floors which are affected. The room had a very large tv and the bathroom and toiletries given were lovely. Unfortunately our room faced onto the function suite with the wedding reception and the noise from the wedding continued until after midnight. Returning to the food… for dinner I ordered a ‘hunters chicken burger' which would have cost £14.95, this was fine but quite obviously a frozen breaded chicken burger that you could pick up from Morrison's, tasty enough but I am glad we didn't pay their price for it. My partner ordered a pizza, described as having spicy sausage and pepperoni topping, this was an absolute joke! This pizza was most definitely a Chicago town takeaway style pepperoni pizza which they are selling for £14.95. Having worked in the hotel industry myself I know this is something which is done, mostly for room service orders or if they have run out of ingredients, however to be sold for nearly £15 out of the RESTAURANT, we were incredibly disappointed. If we had gone to McDonald's it would have been better quality for money. Having looked at the other pizzas on offer - roast chicken and bacon and four cheese, I would hazard a guess that these would also be from the Chicago town takeaway range. Breakfast was a buffet, nothing special but no real complaints, food was a little dry but this is to be expected from food kept hot in trays. I would like to highlight that I am not complaining at all about the wedding guests or the staff in the bar, however we were told on multiple occasions that we would be able to eat in the bar despite the hotel obviously knowing they had a wedding booked and the bar would be being used for the reception. Overall I would maybe stay in the room again at a push but don't bother eating here, even with the groupon it was a waste of money!

"Faded former glory in a state of chaos and desperate need of repair"

martinsw2, Lincoln, United Kingdom 08/08/2021

Firstly let me begin by stating my review is no reflection on the staff. All of them without exception were friendly polite and went out of their way to help us with the issues we faced, but unfortunately they seem to be manning a sinking ship. If you read my other reviews you will see I'm am not a serial moaner… Upon arrival we had completed the “pre-check in” so it was a smooth process and we were allocated a room in the basement floor. Then we began to realise that this hotel was very old and in desperate need of an upgrade. The corridor smelt awful with a blend of stale beer and cigarettes and we found that our room was in a similar state, the grout in the bathroom was covered in mildew and mould, the mirror was discoloured all around and the beds were really uncomfortable with badly worn mattresses. We'd booked the hotel as it had advertised Spa facilities and a pool; but we were informed these were permanently closed, and upon reflection at the state of the rest of the hotel I can only imagine this was for health and safety reasons! We then discovered that we were surrounded by a party of young workmen who had decided to get drunk / high and party until 4am, all around our room. Needless to say the soundproofing was almost non existent and we could not sleep at all. We did call the receptionist to complain at about 1am and he came down and knocked on a few doors - and this did temporarily quiet these idiots down but unfortunately there was no respite until about 4am. We saw some of these characters at breakfast and goodness knows what kind of work they were going to do! We asked to be moved to a quieter floor. Our friends were staying on the top floor and had reported it was quiet so we packed all our things together and asked to be moved for our remaining two nights. The receptionist was aware that we had complained in the night and said she would have a word with the manager to move us. She said no problem about our bags they would either leave them in the room or if necessary move them for us. Upon our return in the evening, we were given a key to our new room and told that our bags were still downstairs and we could collect them and move ourselves. So imagine our surprise when we went to the initial room and discovered they'd checked in some poor unfortunate soul in there who was looking at our luggage, the unmade room and was questioning who we were?!! Luckily this fellow was a decent chap and there were no issues - but all our things could have been gone through - the hotel had no idea about security and how could they check another person into this room which hadn't even been cleaned and made up? The room we were moved to was on the top floor and was like a sauna. We were provided with two fans but the window barely opened and again the beds had mattresses which were worn out and quite uncomfortable. On our second morning at breakfast we were also told that they'd run out of bacon and there were no sweeteners left in the building (I'm diabetic) - we really weren't surprised by anything any longer - we just pitied the staff having to work in such a place… It was very sad to see a place that was clearly something great in its heyday having fallen so desperately on hard times. But I have to be honest and say I've had better standards of sleep and comfort in travel lodges - with their no frills approach at least they have quiet rooms and comfortable beds.

Dear Martin, Thank you for offering feedback of your recent stay. I am very sorry indeed that your stay with us what not what I or you had hoped for. As you will appreciate, we are in business to make people happy, something which we clearly failed to achieve where you are concerned, on this occasion. We stayed at The Leyland Hotel while visiting family. The hotel was lovely, the staff were even nicer. The chap on reception in the evening (Martin) stood out. What a credit he is to your business, nothing was to much trouble. We were given an accessible room as I am disabled and the wet room was really well laid out. Shower was really good too.

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear Stuart C, Thank you for offering your positive feedback. I am absolutely delighted you had a comfortable stay and that Martin was a shining star - I know he will be delighted. I very much look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Regards, Richard General Manager

billym213, Liverpool, United Kingdom 03/08/2021

We stayed in this hotel on the 16th July. On checking in we where told you have to do it on your phone. The man on reception was quite helpful and did this for us. He asked for our registration number also. On returning home we received a fine for parking at the hotel. We sent confirmation off to the firm to show we did stay there. They said we need the hotel to clarify. Despite 20 phone calls to this hotel we can not get a reply. so today we have had to pay the fine otherwise it will go up to £100. Fuming is an understatement. Also the pool has been removed and we waited an hour and a half for breakfast because a football team had been staying. Avoid this hotel.

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear billym213, Thank you for offering feedback following your recent stay with us. The car park is not managed by the hotel directly however, if you send a copy of the charge you have received to richard.dixon@prestonleylandhotel.co.uk we may be able to help with the cancellation. "Terrible stay"

N3553WMcatherines, Grimsby 02/08/2021

On arrival, the hotel looks lovely - clean and modern. Unfortunately, first impressions are deceiving. We were asked to check ourselves in using the QR code which felt like rebooking the room all over again. We were given very quick instructions about where to go to find our room and barely a smile. Not the friendliest of welcomes! The heat as we got to the first floor was noticeable compared to the air conditioned lobby. The room was nothing like any of the pictures online. It was clean but was uncomfortably hot. The window barely opened and the fan did not work properly. We decided to have a couple of drinks in the bar after a long drive and 10pm check in. The barman was lovely and helpful and before returning to our room we asked what time breakfast was served. We were told it was served until 10:30am. The room was still unbearably hot on return and yet it wasn't a warm evening outside. Another fan was provided to us which helped somewhat with sleeping - if you could find a comfortable position without several springs digging in your back. We headed to breakfast at 10am, having packed ready to get back on the road and check out by 11am latest. However, we were then informed by reception that breakfast was only until 9:30am and as she had checked us in, then we should have been aware of this. I don't really recall her checking us in as I did it myself on an App! We did state that we'd asked at the bar as we couldn't remember what time breakfast was and there was nothing in the room to give any guidance. However, no apology was given and we were offered some cereals as there was no chef! We'd paid a £24 surcharge as we had been gifted the hotel stay from a smart box voucher, bought for us as a Christmas present, so no, not really what my partner was hoping for! By this point, we declined as we just wanted out of this place, which is not a 3* hotel! Save yourself some money and avoid.

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear N3553WMcatherines, I am very sorry indeed that you did not have a comfortable stay. As you will appreciate we remain working to some changes to the 'norm' in order to reduce contact between the team and guests, online check in is one of these examples, as is wearing a mask, something which I find can be challenging to know when someone is smiling.... Breakfast service times are available in the welcome letter given at check in, for our full guest directory, this welcome letter also contains a QR code, something which again is done to remove touch points from our bedrooms so your safety and that of our team. I do hope that we can welcome you back again in the future. Regards, Richard General Manager

Staff members Martin and Ben, who worked the night shift Saturday 31st july: These two gentleman were faced with a challenging situation whereby they felt a member of my party may become aggressive. Martin was subject to personal insults. They handled the moment with professionalism and kindness. They resolved the issue to the best of their ability ensuring that their safety, my well being and that of the other guests at the hotel was maintained. I will be writing a more detailed letter to their management team. I hope they receive the praise that they deserve for upholding the standards of Best Western and providing the best service that they could in a potentially volatile situation. Thank you again guys for your actions. I hope to see you again soon as it is likely we will be regular guests at the hotel going forwards.

I booked a belated 10th anniversary stay for my daughter and son in law, and they had a lovely time I phoned before their arrival and spoke to a really nice man on reception and told him it was a special occasion so would he be able to upgrade their room, and he said if there was availability, he would do it He kept his promise, and my daughter said all the staff were lovely, from check in and waiter service, the meal was delicious, and they said their waiter was really lovely, i wish i knew his name, and the receptionist i spoke to, so they could get the recognition they deserve It was a shame they couldn't use spa facilities because of covid restrictions as im sure that would have added to tgeir most enjoyable night away

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear shazzer_9, Thank you very much indeed for your lovely feedback, I am so pleased your daughter enjoyed their celebrations. I very much hope that we are able to welcome you and them to the hotel again soon. Kind regards, Richard General Manager

"Evening Meal Very disapointing"

2
User 26/07/2021

I'm not one to normally leave reviews but after the meal we was served last night I felt it was justified. Responcible for a team of engineers who are relucatant to travel due to the current COVID situation, I was looing to book them in somewhere better than the Premier Inns / holiday inns etc that are normally used. Was impressed with the hotel on arrival, soon to be disapointed, The rooms are very small, very hot and to be honest are not up to the standard experienced with Premier Inn's However the room was clean and the staff welcoming, so far OK. After returning from working all day. my self and my coleague was lookking to have a beer and relaxe. The young lady behind the bar was really heplfull and polite and couldnt do enough for us. So the decision was made to choose from the menu avaiable, The menu was limited but adequate. Both myslef and my coleague ordered the Supperfood Salad with the additional grilled chicken which sounded very tasty and somthing different. WHAT A DISSAPOINTMENT, The salad was listed to include, Mixed Leaves, Tomatoes, Cucumber, Avacado, Feta Cheese, Pomegranate pearls, Edomame beans, Quinoa, Toasted Pumpkin seeds, Honey mustard dressing. Avacado - MISSING Feta Cheese - MISSING Pomegranate - MISSING Tosted Pumkin Seads -MISSING Honey Mustard Dressing - MISSING. What we was served would only just pass as a side salad served alongside a normal meal. not as a main meal as advertised. We brought this to the attention of the wattress who was very helpful, Some slices of acacodo ws brought out but none of the items was avaiable. as a gesture a small portion of chips and some onions rings was brought to out table.. I fully understand that we are in difficult times and we are all strugling for staff etc, but rather than serve up such a disspointment, why not ask us to choose something else of the menu. I have other engineers joining me at this hotel later this week. not sure what to do at the moment, We all work long hours away from our families, all we want is some where we can have a drink and a meal to relaxe, at the moment it looks like I will need to make alternative arangments for evening meals, rather than have a repeat of last night.

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear carlp735, Thank you for offering your feedback. I am very sorry indeed that we disappointed you. There really is no excuse for the meal that you were served. What you describe certainly isn't to our usual standard and it is most disappointing that you were not served a complete dish. I hope that we are able to demonstrate during the remainder of your stay that this was a 'blip' and certainly not the norm. Kind regards, Richard General Manager

I've been at this hotel for the past two nights and all I can say is how lovely Martin was! He is an asset to this hotel he was so welcoming and helped with any problems that arose. The hotel is beautiful but for me it's not the place it's the people that make it and all I can say is Martin is a star he's always wanting to go the extra mile for you!

"Staff excellent - Management, rooms & Breakfast rules not so good."

User 19/07/2021

Breakfast - You are not allowed to have two eggs even if you didn't have one of the other breakfast items. You could remove items but no extra items allowed. One morning my wife wanted poached eggs on toast, but was only allowed one egg! So I order poached egg with my cooked breakfast so wife could have two eggs - absolutely ridiculous! Another morning we waited for 5 minutes to be seated, when no one came, I knocked on the kitchen door, still no one came. In the end I had to contact reception. Apparently staff had gone "missing", manager/supervisor didn't know where they were... Room was small compared to Premier Inn. Room on first floor was extremely hot. We knew it was not good when two fans were provided in the room and at least one had to be on full power all the time we were in the room. Room was tired and in need of an upgarde/revamp. Bins outside the entrance of the hotel were overflowing with rubbish onto the floor, not a good look.

Big disappointment. On our first night the night Porter went to find out what shots they had at 11.15pm and didn't see him again until 24hours later. Crap start for my birthday at midnight. I tried calling and looking round the hotel and didn't find him. The kitchen Porter who could not operate the bar witnessed us help ourselves to a drink and leave an IOU . I did get a bottle of Prosecco in my room but still no explanation. It's clear that there are a lot of new staff. They didn't know prices of food, drink or how to work the till. We had to ask for our table to be cleared more than once. We were overcharged for food we did not order. Even though it was table service we had to go to the bar and asked to be served. 30min to wait on a round of drinks on the second night was still an improvement on the night before as I'm still waiting on them. The one morning we had breakfast our hash browns can frozen (this was rectified immediately) but we were finished our breakfast by the time they came. The matrices need updated as they were hard. This hotel was chosen because it was the location we needed. Even though I will be going back to the area I will not be staying here again.

"Dissapointed"

grimmy77, Upholland, United Kingdom 05/07/2021

We stayed here as a mini honeymoon and whilst the main lobby and bar/restaurant were lovely, our room was a different story! It was like a basement room. Smelly, damp and musty. There was mould on the bathroom ceiling and the bathroom door was water damaged and warped, there was no lock on the bathroom door! It looked like it had been broken off and not replaced. Mouldy grout in the shower and a damaged bath tub! The bed was not comfortable and there was no proper ventilation so was extremely hot in the night. Not impressed! The breakfast was nice but not enough items on the plate. The staff were nice but drinks a bit pricey! The only way I would stay here again is if they could guarantee we weren't in the downstairs bedrooms again! I did email to complain about everything and I am still waiting for a reply!

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear grimmy77 Thank you for bringing the below to our attention, please advise this is not our standard of service or expectations for our guests. We do pride our self on standard of service and cleanliness at the hotel. We do wish you had brought this to our attention during your stay so we could rectify the bedroom issues. We have addressed all the below you have mentioned and will ensure this does not happen again, Should you wish to stay in the near future please contact me directly on the email address I have provided. "Short stay- fought to get pillows right"

4
Lina D, London, United Kingdom 25/06/2021

I was pleased to be welcomed and given a clean well presented room. No air con which I have at home and usually have at hotel stays. There was an electric fan which did cool the room. The combination of pillows took sometime to sort out to get comfortable, that said it was a good selection as I like two pillows. Eventually I got it right. I was happy with my stay and the hotel met my expectations for the cost. If you want the Ritz stay there if you want affordable clean welcoming hotel stay here.

"What's happened to this hotel! BW SIGNATURE THEY SAY!"

User 24/06/2021

Poor service. Cigarette burns on bed sheets in room. Remote control with no batteries in. Limited bar menu, and then hardly anything available on menu. Popular draught beer not working. Rude staff at breakfast. You have to check yourself in and your car upon arrival, the last thing you really want to do after a long day. You have to push to get a printed accommodation receipt for work, because they want to email it you. You can't put food on your room. You can't open a tab, meaning you have to pay every time you go bar, which is a nuisance if you have to hand in receipts for work. Decor is tired and the appearance of the hotel on the outside. Key cards to rooms never work either. A poor service for the price you pay. Very rude breakfast staff as well who just don't listen to what you say you want for breakfast. They just keep reading off individual breakfast items when you've already told them what you want, and when you say ( just egg on toast, nothing else, they just keep over talking to you). I thought this was meant to be a signature hotel but you have to do everything yourself and the hotel don't want to do anything for you.

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear nickreid2, Thank you for offering your view of your stay with us. It is most disappointing to read your comments and learn that we got it so wrong! A great deal of the negativity within your review is to reduce the amount of contact touch points and to limit interaction: online check in; email receipt; tab opening (requirements for signatures on payments). Our team take great pride in the service that we offer and typically receive very positive feedback about it, I fear that no matter what I or the team had done, you wouldn't have been happy. I take offence at your suggestion we didn't want to do anything for you, the team are and have been working tirelessly to offer our guests a comfortable, enjoyable stay, something we clearly were unsuccessful. Regards, Richard General Manager

dbaz193672, Stafford, United Kingdom 22/06/2021

Stayed here for business pre lock down I am a platinum member with Best Western so tend to stay in the best western hotels for business. On arrival venue nice and clean and staff present, on check in not offers the brand standard as a platinum member and no room upgrade. Evening me was I would say adequate certainly not something I would pay nearly £15 in future (1 main course) waiting and bar staff seemed nice abs certainly trying to do their best but certainly seemed like lack of knowledge / training, another couple orders a bottle of wine but there was no bottle opener to open it which pretty much sums up the stay. Rooms little jaded but comfy breakfast was very nice however after placing my order no coffee, juice or toast came to my table I did ask twice politely and on the second occasion was told by the waiting staff “well there's only so much can do on your own, and it's not like we are here saving lives” which I found both amusing abs slightly annoyed. Overall not a bad stay but for a total spend of just over £100 for 1 guest 1 night there is far better value available. I wouldn't book here again as there are there best westerns in the area.

I stayed at the Preston leyland for 2 nights I arrived on Sunday night and you have to ring for someone to come and check you in which was done with in a few minutes. The public areas are very nice and welcoming my room was clean and functional with a very comfortable bed.The food was good if a bit limited which is understandable at this moment in time. The only criticism I have is that they could do with a few more staff but would definitely stay again.

"So disappointed"

kevincousins1966, Ipswich, United Kingdom 12/06/2021

Overall the setting up of this hotel was wrong. Yes COVID LOCKDOWN finished less than a month ago, but hotelier is your trade. Bland breakfast poorly trained staff and uncleaned bar lines and pumps are not at all acceptable. No housekeeping for a 3 night stay is not good either. In honesty would normally stay a Farington Lodge, but wasn't able to get twin room. Room and reception area looked good and common areas where clean and smelt very nice and polished. Lots of work needed to get me staying again. Room housekeeping is expected and I feel COVID isn't an excuse. Cleaning can be done while guests aren't present.

Richard Dixon, General Manager at Preston Leyland Hotel, BW Signature Collection, responded to this review
Dear kevincousins1966, Thank you for offering your feedback. I am sorry that you were disappointed with your stay and particularly that you found breakfast bland. Since reopening the hotel after 14 months of closure our revised breakfast offering is something that to date has received positive feedback so it is a shame that this was not the case for you. Currently with the ongoing restrictions that are in place guidance recommends not cleaning guest rooms until checked out, this is highlighted on all booking sites and also on our guest directory which is emailed prior to arrival. I do hope that we are able to welcome you back again in the future. Regards, Richard General Manager

Stayed at Preston Leyland Best Weston Hotel. Arrived little early, reception unmanned but phone available to call - no chance of early check in & not very welcoming! That said - check in when we were on time was friendly & efficient. Room ok needed a little tlc in places but adequate for our needs. Menu needs a little work as little choice & over priced given that the Woodcutter pub & Leyland town centre are only 10 min walk away. Breakfast first morning total shambles but second morning totally different thanks to BEV - who is an absolute star- excellent service & fabulous people skills.

Hotel was no where near 4 star standard, pool sauna and gym closed, no amenities and rooms were unbearable to sleep in with weather at 20+ degrees, with No A/C and only one fan the room felt like 25+ degrees, Could feel the springs on the beds Bathroom Radiator was always on (don't need a sauna just stay In the bathroom for 5 mins) Sink didn't work properly No house keeping for the 3 nights we stayed (though mentions daily house keeping on website) Overall hugely disappointed and can 100% find 2 or 3 star hotels better than this place Considered to change hotel after the first night due to how hot the rooms were, but due to the Bank holiday weekend almost everything was fully booked.

On arrival we were greeted by a lovely receptionist who was very efficient & told us everything we needed to know. From checking in to car park rules & WiFi. This then was followed by an email from the hotel. He swapped our rooms last minute from double to twin. The rooms were very modern & clean. We were booked in for bed & breakfast & evening meal. Long weekend of Leisure .really quick check in with express check out. We experienced a little hic up with phone and toilet cistern in the first room we were given and after a chat with the manager we were given a new room which went beyond our expectations. Executive room on ground floor. The breakfast was efficiently served with a good choice menu.. all staff were very accommodating and very professional.all in all we had a great weekend enhanced by our great experience at this hotel. Mr and Mrs simmons . Room 211 21/05 ——-23/05/21

Overall good. Breakfast was nice, strong WiFi, lots of parking spaces, no swimming pool/sauna due to covid 19, staff friendly and helpful, no air con in the room even tho temperature outside was around 10 degrees in the room we were boiling, specially at night. Opening the window didn't help. Good stay for the price tho. Would recommend only for winter gateways. Good location.

We stayed at the Hallmark Preston on a dinner bed & breakfast deal on Friday 20th March, the date the Government locked down all social meeting places. The staff, who where already concerned about the future remained incredibly upbeat and positive during the duration of our stay. The hotel was already short of customers due to cancellations for obvious reasons, and several staff had already been layed off, but the remaining staff where exceptional, 'going that extra mile' to ensure we had an enjoyable visit. The food was delightful in the evening, and a wonderful cooked breakfast of our choice in the morning. Faye Finney you should be proud of your staff, they where all exceptional. Good look to you all in an uncertain future

"Parking fraud"

I have used this hotel in the past for my work visits, fairly regularly. Last month I got charged a parking fine for £60 for not "registering my car" at the front desk. I DID give you my car reg on the form I filled in - but a sneaky way to make some side cash by asking guests to simply register their car on some parking arrangement with a cowboy outfit called Parking Eye...... WHY did not you take the form I filled in as part of the registration for parking my car. I find it stupid that this hotel has its parking managed by these crooks, your car park is at the exit of the M6, you dont get anyone else using your car park except guests. I would happily pay you a nominal fee if you are so desperate for cash. Parking Eye use ANPR to make fast cash, does not matter whether you spend £100 at the hotel for a stay and dinner, you get charged if you do not register. The hotel does not tell you to do that, nor does it have a clearly displayed sign asking guests to register - so part of the £60 surely now adds up in Hallmark's revenue stream. Last visit with this hotel was last month plenty of options near by. Besides your rooms are now looking really dated and old, needs some sprucing up. Perhaps use some of the parking cash to fix that. The value rating now poor because my stay cost £60 more....Parking Eye has an appeal process but till date not heard from them. That is expected, they will delay responding till the £100 charge kicks in. I am not checking what legal rights they have.

Dear az584, I can assure you the car parking management certainly isn't fraud. The parking system is in place so we can ensure our guests can park safely and securely while at the hotel. I am sorry that you did not see the number of signs in the car park, hotel reception and at various locations throughout the hotel. If you would like to discuss further, please contact me on 01772 422 922. Kind Regards Faye

From reading some reviews I was a little nervous as to what I'd booked! On arrival reception staff was lovely, we heading straight to the swimming pool area to be greeted by a lovely lady who had just finished her shift she had her coat on and was leaving.... but she was a credit to the hotel no hesitation she took her coat off signed us in gave us a full detailed tour around, gave us fresh towel and was really lovely (was Saturday 22nd feb around 2pm) lovely member of staff. When we check in and got to the room, the room was lovely and clean no complaints from us... that evening we ate In the restaurant... all the bar staff and restaurant girl serving was very lovely especially the waiter William he was very polite. The service and food was out standing and really amazing. The hotel was lovely and clean and we really enjoyed our stay. We also had breakfast this morning before we left once again a very happy William was welcoming people into the restaurant making fresh coffee and siting people down the breakfast was gorgeous loads of choice. I honestly really enjoyed every part of the stay and would stay again thanks It was a great price and a lot more than I expected

Last weekend we held our annual party which went down a storm! The staff at the hotel pulled out all the stops to ensure the guests had an amazing time. Great bar selections, food and polite and friendly staff helped the event go with a big bang!! Special thanks to Richard, Faye, Roland, Elly, and all reception staff, the young bar staff, cloakroom people and glass collectors as well as the chef and the kitchen staff. Great pool area with a small gym. A great weekend was had by all. Thank you. :-)

Stayed at the hotel last weekend - every encounter with any staff member (from Olivia on reception, to housekeeping, the restaurant and bar staff) was met with friendly, helpful response. Nothing was too much trouble.
