"Visit to Oxford and Bicester village "

35wayneh, The Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield, United Kingdom 02/03/2020

Ok for the price could have a lot more potential if money spent in the right areas perfect location for Bicester village. Bathroom not good shower needs replacing as not good with poor pressure. Stains on towels and mould in the ceiling.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear 35wayneh, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit. We are sorry to hear about the issues you have experienced throughout your stay. We have yet to refurbish the bathrooms throughout the property and will looking at the end of 2020/ start of 2021 to spend some time in all bathrooms to refresh and revive throughout. Kind Regards, The Jersey Arms Management

"A reasonably good night sleep"

TheMomentHumansBlink, London, United Kingdom 17/01/2020

Ample parking space across the road, reception area is behind the pub, good sized room. Electric shower heater, water pressure is really good, however, it is too loud, could disturb if someone is already asleep. Friendly staff, check in and check out is easy. Quite charming, country feel.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear TheMomentHumansBlink, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to The Jersey Arms. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your time with us, and we are aware of the noisey yet powerful showers. We are received quotes for the bathroom makeover and have asked to the showers to be addressed. We hope to see you again! Regards, David Musgrove General Manager

"Wouldn't go past a one night stay "

TravelingMerm, Monrovia, California 24/12/2019

Our stay was ok since we were only there for the one night. I wouldn't want to have to stay longer. The room itself is well decorated and very roomy and the fact it's a historic inn is cool. One big plus is they included a fan and extra heater. But the bathroom is definitely in need of a repair. The shower makes insanely loud noises whilst showering and the shower door allows water to get everywhere. There's no ventilation so it gets very very steamy. We also found numerous rusty looking stains on our towels. You can hear car noise from the road constantly. And the bed was very uncomfortable...I could feel all the springs and it rose up in the middle somehow so I was always sliding towards the edge and having to reposition. Parking is across the street and is in disrepair with potholes etc but seems ample. We weren't able to try the restaurant bc it was closed the day we were there (Closed on Sundays FYI). We were asking about food nearby and when we asked the man at the desk more than one question, he seemed annoyed. There is a town nearby (about a 5 min drive) called Bicester that had lots of restaurants to choose from so it wasn't an issue.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear TravellingMerm, Thank you for taking the time to review you visit to the Jersey Arms. We are still currently under refurbishment throughout the property and have yet to start the refurbishment on the bathrooms which should address the noisy shower and the shower door. We are also looking into possible window replacement and/or secondary glazing to be added to the rooms on the road side. I will speak with the housekeeping team that they check the linen for any marks. We have recently purchased new mattress toppers and will ensure that these will be place on all the beds once they have been turned this month. My apologies for the disgruntled team member you encounter when inquiring about places to eat in the local area, I will ensure the team are spoken to regarding there customer interactions. Warm Regards, David Musgrove General Manager

"Not Great"

SteveT733, Woodford, United Kingdom 20/12/2019

Booked here as I had a voucher from a travel company for money off. Booked one of the suites, but tbh it was a dump. The place was cold - so had to ask for the heating to be switched on - then discovered only one radiator worked in the front room and a couple of lights were out in the ceiling (I notice someone else mentioned this - so why they don't check the lights daily I don't know). In the bedroom, the radiator didn't turn off - so damn hot all night. The bathroom was equally useless- bath not sealed properly - so water goes down the back of the bath. Some crap electric shower that dribbled out water. I notice the manager has said they are "revamping" the suites. My view is - if they are that bad don't rent out until they are updated. You may ask why I didn't complain - COS there was no one around most the time and thought it was unlikely that they would put us in another room and refund some of your costs. I never "slag off" places, but this is not great and certainly not worth the price we paid (even with discount)

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear SteveT733, Thank you for taking the time to leave us an indepth review regarding your recent visit to the Jersey Arms. I am disappointed to hear the lights where no all working when you arrived, and will speak with the housekeeping team to ensure all lights & electronics are checked while they are servicing the rooms. We are still undergoing our refurbishment of the bedrooms, with the bathrooms yet to be done - this will also address the plumbing throughout the room including the radiators. As a 800 year old building the pipework & plumbing will be the hardest task of all, as we are unable just to replace the radiator for a like for like as the metal & type of radiators no longer match. As a small property, we also have a small team of employees that work across all departments which unfortunately resulted in you not being able to complaint directly to us. My apologies for the poor experience you hard with us and will work with the team to ensure greater experiences for all guests here at the Jersey Arms. Warm Regards, David Musgrove General Manager

"Has potential to be very good"

carlg118, Derby, United Kingdom 19/12/2019

Stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. Allocated a superior room as part of a group booking. The room itself was comfy and nicely decorated. A few small stains on the carpet were a shame. The bathroom was in need or a major overhaul but to be fair the hotel did state in the guest book that the bathrooms were all to be modernised in the near future. I would add to that mine had no heating so was not particularly inviting in the middle of winter so hopefully that gets remedied when the overhaul happens. Breakfast was good, if I was to be picky it would be nice to have a few different options available for a hot breakfast rather than just the full English, omelettes, poached or scrambled eggs etc. Food in the evenings was pretty good although I felt slightly overpriced at £14.95 for a main course. All in all I was reasonably happy with the stay, if I had to work in the area again I'd go back.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear Carlg118, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent group visit to out 800 year old Country inn. We admit the choice in colour carpet was the wrong choice to make especially when winter hits the area and mud falls in love with our shoes. The bathrooms are yet to be refurbished which we hope to start in 2020, unfortunately the heating runs on a timer based system and can only come on twice a day but when its on for too long the rooms take longer to cool down however the team are happy to boost the heating at anyone's request. Our Oxfordshire Breakfast comes with a choice of cooked egg (be it Poached, Scrambled or even an omelette), which can be modified i.e. remove items from the full option, if you prefer something lighter to start your day. We hope to see you again soon, Regards, The JA Management Team

str8t, Colchester, United Kingdom 16/12/2019

I arrived with my daughter for a birthday treat as we were going to see the Lights at Bicester Village. We had decided on an overnight stop, to save the 3 hour ish drive home. Well, we didn't stay and I had to make the long journey home after a cut short shopping trip( due to the drive time it would add to our long day). We attempted to check in at 14:43, to be told check in is at 3, very rudely and almost disbelief that we had shown up early. The plan was for us to check in then get off shopping, to return to use the hotel restaurant later. We said we didn't mind waiting, but the young man then looked at us ,went off and then we noticed he was outside at the annexe, we had just been left standing, in a dark area near reception. We decided we then just wanted to be at home, so left as we could not stay anywhere we were not made to feel welcome. It's just we cannot believe this is a hospitality venue ,with absolutely no hospitality. I did call Best Western to complain, I had used my hard earned rewards to stay , and hopefully they will be reimbursed. I will add that we did not meet any management, and hope they would have acted differently to their guests. Clearly staff need training to realise without guests, no hotel and no job? Also the car park is across a very busy road, and it took some time to cross as traffic was especially busy at the time we were there,.we considered it very dangerous. I would not stay or advise anybody I know to stay here.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear Str8t, Thank you for your response regarding your recent stay. I also appreciate the email you sent me directly which was more in-depth regarding your brief and poor experience. Once again i would like to apologize for this terrible birthday treat you had planned for your daughter. Kind Regards, David Musgrove General Manager

"Quick break"

twinkle1o1, Manchester, United Kingdom 11/12/2019

A cheerful, friendly ,quirky ,small Inn. Stayed overnight mainly as shopping at Bicester. Booked a suite to have more room ,was pleasantly surprised, very clean ,spacious on 2 floors ,4 poster bed. Lovely and warm once we turned up heating. Food in pub was excellent, breakfast next morning - could have done with 2nd cup of coffee but cooked food lovely.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear Twinkle1o1, Thank you for taking the time to review our 'small inn' after your recent visit while visiting the Bicester Village Shopping Outlet. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. Our Tea & Coffee facilities during breakfast is self serve and if we are to run out of coffee the team are more than happy to make more if we haven't notice. Hope to see you again soon, The Jersey Arms Team

"Clean, tidy, friendly- poor beds and parking "

D7527PKrobertd, London, United Kingdom 06/12/2019

So this is part of a small pub, with normal pub food and generous portions. Reception and staff friendly. Parking is over a very busy road and no disabled parking appeared to be available. Rooms recently decorated and are ok.... but it appears they have not updated the beds or bedding. Duvet was threadbare in places and bed was very uncomfortable. Would not stay here again.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear D7527PKrobertd, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to The Jersey Arms. We are a small 80 year old Country Inn, which used to contain an old Forge on site, with grazing field for livestock. This former field is now the car park as when the property was built, deliveries came by good old fashion Horse & Cart. With cards now on the road 800 years later unfortunately people use the road as a short cut to Oxford which makes the road very busy at peak times. As an old Building we have limited accessibility for guests with mobility restrictions with may require a disable parking spot. Our guests which do require more assistant usually call us to arrange the assistant required i.e. disable parking. We are still undergoing our Refurbishment throughout the property and the mattresses are not yet up for their replacement. I will ensure that Housekeeping have kept up with the mattress rotation and a mattress topper is present on all beds. Kind Regards, David Musgrove General Manager The Jersey Arms

"Ideal base for Blenheim and Bicester!"

Lucy C, Leeds, United Kingdom 01/12/2019

We recently stayed at the Jersey Arms for a cheap and cheerful weekend break. The hotel is ideally located for exploring the local area, such as Blenheim Palace, Bicester Village and Oxford city centre. Although the quiet location of the hotel is lovely, it is in the middle of nowhere so having access to a car is essential. Check in was quick and easy. The room we had was above the main pub but noise was not an issue at all. Room was refurbished to a good standard and to say we had booked a 'cosy double' we had plenty of space and the bathroom was a good size. We only ate once at the hotel but it was excellent. Not the cheapest but the quality of the food outweighs this. (Plus we are tight northerners). Service was quick and efficient. We didn't book for breakfast but can imagine this is just as good as our evening meal was. Overall great value for money and we are hoping to be back in the summer for another short break.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear Lucy, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to us. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the room, refurbishment so far and the food you received. We can't wait to have you back in the summer :) Regards, David Musgrove, General Manager

"Short break"

Snowdrop1250, Farnborough, United Kingdom 23/11/2019

This is a lovely Inn to stay at, if there had been a little snow and a coach and four passing by, shut your eyes and it would be like in Dickens times. Teresa looked after us well, the food was excellent, pity that all the refurbishment had not been completed. A very friendly atmosphere throughout the Inn.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear Snowdrop1250, Thank you for reviewing your recent visit. We are please to hear to enjoyed your stay with us, our refurbishment is being carried out in the quiet periods with selected few rooms at a time, with no planned finish date as of yet. We want to ensure minimal disruption to all guests staying with us. Hope to see you again soon, Regards, David Musgrove General Manager

"Great place to stay"

Brian290563, Dumbarton, United Kingdom 12/11/2019

This place is fabulous, a very old coach house 3 miles from Bicester. The rooms are quirky mine had low ceilings and a wonky floor my work colleague had a tiny door and right behind it a flight of stairs. The breakfast is great and we ate here rather than going into Bicester.... the dinner was superb. The bar area has a few comfy seats and a log fire just what you'd expect from an English county hotel. In short a great find and I will be back next time I'm in the area.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear Brian, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to our 800 year old country inn! Our rooms are unique in layout with their own little quirks. We are pleased to hear you have enjoyed your time with us and will be back in the future. Kind Regards, David Musgrove General Manager

Jenski2013, norwich 09/11/2019

Our stay was perfect, the building is so quirky but the modern touches make it luxurious. The welcome and service was first class and the food was delicious! Couldn't fault it, we wished we could've stayed for longer. Thank you for a lovely stay!

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear Jenski2013, We would like to thank you for taking the time to leave such an amazing review regarding your recent stay with us. Myself & the team are pleased to hear you enjoyed what we have done so far with the refurb. We can't wait to see you again.

"A slice of Old English Histroy, well worth a visit"

User 18/10/2019

An old ale house converted into a caching station with charm and many origianal fixtures. I was in the stable block, recently reburbished, nice and cosy. A littlle bit of road noise at busy times, otherwise a great nights sleep. The resturanant and ever changing special board menue was stuffed with flavour. Good for bussiness trips.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear Sunshine54107103215, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to our 800 year old country inn and the charm inside. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay and noticed the changing menu. Hope to see you again!

"Lovely place but!!"

chas j, Leighton Buzzard, United Kingdom 23/09/2019

First impression the place needs a clean up! And do away with stinking cigarettes right outside the main entrance! My room was lovely but noisy but after a week I got used to that! Breakfast well don't bother! I had to wait 30mins for the worst served breakfast in my life and at £14 it should be perfect. Finally came out with more aroma of cigarettes around the waiter than I've ever smelt before which really annoyed me! No manners or service skills he should not be in this kind of work! Yogart 4 days out of date made me want to be sick after I'd eaten a spoon full. Now this is a restaurant not a back street cafe! All yogurts in the fridge out of date is not acceptable. Bins in the restaurant never empty and the toilets the same. Only a couple of staff were friendly and I feel sorry for the place.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear Chas J, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to the Jersey Arms. I am very disappointed to hear about the problems you have encountered throughout your stay with us. After reading this review i have spoke with the team regarding smoking breaks which should not be taken during food service or peak business times, and i hope that the cigarette ends on the entrance floor are not being left by the team. I have spoke with the Chef & Waiting team regarding the date checks on all food be it on display or in the back fridges and will ensure checks are in place daily. We are taking your feedback on board and will ensure this does not happen again. Kind Regards, The Jersey Arms Management Team

"“Not as expected”"

LeeMSouthWales, south wales 16/09/2019

Stayed for a night while visiting the local area and shopping outlet.Situated on a very busy crossroad, parking on opposite side of road.Very quaint old building having some restoration work done.we had a room off the rear courtyard on arrival at room the floor outside was filthy looked as if it hadn't seen a hover or brush for a while,The room was spacious and well stocked,However the bathroom was obviously missed out on the cleaning schedule, hair and stains in the bath dried paint spots not cleaned off after decoration, the shower unit has seen better days. For £110 for the night I'd expect a much better standard.Thought we would check out the restaurant facilities, the menu very short with little choice so decide to go elsewhere for our evening meal.Came back later to settle down for the night the traffic noise was horrendous,From the bedroom above every creak and the bed was so uncomfortable it has to be the worst nights sleep I've had in a long time .onto breakfast ,passing the staff on the way in having a cigarette break walked into the restaurant ,no staff, sat down,no staff, helped myself to coffee, no staff, sat down while my wife went to make her tea, no hot water, still no staff obviously still on cigarette break.Evetually young man turns up in jeans and jumper asks if we want full breakfast smelling of cigarette smoke, very professional ! We decide it was time to go ,packed ready to leave and wanted to go and complain but stopped by my wife told not to make a fuss.As we were leaving to hand the Keyes back at the reception there were three staff including the chef all having a cigarette at the back door again ! Summing the place up really ,very unprofessional ! Will definitely not recommend or return, a real shame as the building is full of character and could be a great destination if the staffing was sorted.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear LeeMSouthWales, Thank you for your review of your recent visit. I am disappointed to hear nothing throughout your stay met any of your expectations and all points listed will be taken on board. I have spoken with the relevant team regarding smoking breaks during food service are to be stopped. Unfortunately the uniform is jeans, shirt and a jumper is optional dependent on the temperature. However is they has cigarette break all uniform should be covered in quiet times. I am in discussions with the housekeeping team regarding the cleanliness of the bathrooms and the public areas to ensure these are being cleaned daily. Our menu changes daily to every 2 days, so we provide a limited choices on the black board however our chef is happy to find you something to cook providing we have the ingredients. We are looking into additional glazing to be installed throughout the rooms but unfortunately i am unable to reduce the traffic around the building (if we could, we would). Kind Regards, The Jersey Arms Management Team

"A visit to Blenheim Palace - Bentley Rally"

Mark H, Nantwich, United Kingdom 08/09/2019

Ideal location for Blenheim & Oxford. The staff were really helpful and friendly. The bedding and towels in "The Forge" were fresh, clean & spotless & the bed was very comfortable. Secure parking was good across the road. A lovely Italian 5mins walk away. Unfortunately that's where the good stops. The bathroom had black mold around the bath and skirtings, the sitting room was dark and grim, plug in air fresheners were acrid! The entrance to the room was dirty and needed sweeping (moss & pebbles). Despite a weekend early breakfast with notice (in the hotel info pack) the Chef was a contract chef and did not start until 8:00, we had to leave at 7:00. The manager did lay on cereal, juices, toast and coffee but having paid for a cooked breakfast we were disappointed. The entrance to the bar was full of leaves and blown in debris. The evening menu was extremely limited, 5 mains, but they change it every 2 days. In my opinion no where near £134 value a night. Nice people but I think they need support to improve the Arms. We won't be back.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear Mark H, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit with us. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the fresh linen, clean facilities and friendly staff. The Forge Suite is yet to receive the finishing touches throughout the bathrooms & brightening touches in the living room. We do advertise through all our platforms the breakfast times which start from 8am on weekends, however our usual chef would of been more than happy to attend earlier to serve you a cooked breakfast but unfortunately we are unable to change the pre-agreement contract times for the agency. Kind Regards, David Musgrove

"Quaint and quirky"

jord222, Isle of Portland, United Kingdom 06/09/2019

We booked overnight on a half way stop, the Hotel buildings are old and have a lot of history attached to them, we stayed in the Forge Suite which used to be the old blacksmiths building. It was nice to have a suite not attached to the hotel with having our dog with us, it was easy to get outside as and when needed. The 2 staff were friendly but seemed to be a little stagnant in their jobs, the Chef was cooking, serving in the bar and serving tables, and the reception/booking clerk was busy too. Evening meal menu consisted a choice of 5 from the blackboard, breakfast was OK. The hotel is under refurbishment and the Suite certainly needs updating for the price. Wi-Fi didn't work either. The car park is across a busy road which made it very awkward carrying bags and cases across it, dodging cars and lorrys. In need of some TLC throughout.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear Jord222, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit. We are just recovering from a recent short staffing issue which will be rectified in the coming weeks, which affect the reduced dinner menus too. We were unable of the wi-fi issues for the guests, so will contact our tech team to have a look. Regards, David Musgrove The Jersey Arms

"Not great"

User 03/09/2019

I stayed here previously in May and had no problem so decided to book again wish I hadn't. Booked two rooms one was ok but very noisy on the main road the other room was very dark couldn't see what you were doing . We decided to go for a drink in the bar after a long journey we had to wait ages before someone came to serve us , there was a guy painting but didn't even acknowledge we were there . Even the chef walked through and never said a word . We were then asked if we wanted to book for dinner that night the menu wasn't great not much choice , so decided we would eat elsewhere so glad we did. The people who work there have no customer skills just choose not to speak to you apart from the lady who served breakfast who was nice . The breakfast wasn't great would never pay £14 if it wasn't included in the room rate only got one slice of toast never asked if we wanted any more . When we checked out the guy didn't even ask if everything was ok like most places do . The service and being friendly was dreadful doesn't take much to provide a good service and have a smile on your face . Definitely wouldn't return to this place again will have to look for new accommodation when visiting family .

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear 156suet, We are sorry to hear we didn't meet your expectations after your previous visit. The team hear have been working hard in sorting the internal refurbishment throughout the Front of House areas to bring a new life in this 800 year old coaching inn. I will speak with the team and ensure we are ready for every guest that walks into the property. Regards, David Musgrove The Jersey Arms

"Very 'accomodating'!"

User 19/08/2019

Despite the Jersey Arms clearly indicating that it was closed as a pub till 3 pm, when I popped in last week at 2 pm, a very nice lady eagerly agreed to make me a pot of tea, which was both good and good value. I have only written two Tripadvisor reviews in about ten years, but I really felt I had to do something to repay this willingness and kindness, especially as I had no change for a much deserved tip - my explanation was cheerily accepted! I wouldn't want everyone to impose on their generosity by ignoring the opening hours, but - thank you again, Jersey Arms.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Hi popepius6, Thank you for posting such a heartfelt review. I am pleased to hear the team were able to russle up a pot of tea for your whilst on your journey. Hopefully your next visit will be for more than just a cuppa! Regards, JA Team

"Coaching inn"

roxy232015, Bognor Regis, United Kingdom 05/08/2019

We booked and stayed for one night . It is conveniently located for Bicester Shopping outlet , and Blenheim Palace . It is on a minor road but a busy road but the walls are thick so I did not hear any road traffic . The beds were comfortable and I had a good nights sleep . The food was excellent even if the menu was limited . The service was friendly and nothing was too much trouble . The building is very old so you must allow for this but the room was comfortable and clean . There was plenty of parking available. I would suggest you try this place for your self as I felt the staff were trying very hard for us to have an enjoyable stay .

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear Roxy232015, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to our 800 year old former Coaching Inn. "No food at lunchtime!"

David L, Stansted Mountfitchet, United Kingdom 29/07/2019

We stayed at the hotel on Saturday 27 July and were disappointed when we checked in at 14:00 to be told that the bar wouldn't open until 15:00 and the only food available was peanuts or crisps! One of the reasons for choosing The Jersey Arms was because the website states "Monday to Saturday during the day light bites are served" and we expected to at least get a sandwich after our 4 hour journey. Not the sort of service we expect from a Best Western Hotel.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Hi David, Thank you for your review. As a small Country Inn all our team work together to get the rooms ready for our 3pm check in we advise that early check ins to call on the day of arrival so we can arrange for your room to be ready. As the team work in all departments we are unable to offer light bites, I will have our website updated as we are no longer able to offer this service. Our apologies for the disappointment on arrival. Kind Regards, David Musgrove General Manager

"Bad hotel"

User 16/07/2019

The Jersey Arms fell well below our expectations and given we paid £150 per night it was a bad experience. In fact we left after one night and stayed at The Villiers Hotel for £78.00. The room was tiny, dirty and you couldn't even stand up in the shower No one greeted us with any sort of welcome and we were made to feel like an inconvenience rather than a paying guest Do not go

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear pbrown397449, We are sorry to hear you did not enjoy your visit to us. Please could you contact us to discuss the issues raised further. Kind Regards, David Musgrove General Manager

"Positively awful..."

caron b, Cheshunt, United Kingdom 16/07/2019

We arrived at 7pm at The Jersey Arms looking forward to an early, relaxing night after a 4am start to a day at Silverstone for the F1 on Sunday 14th July 2019. Whilst checking in we ordered drinks. G&T given in a dirty glas with no lemon or ice, and my husband had a lager after he tasted the beer which he didn't like. He was asked to try the lager to check that was ok too as it had been playing up.... We sat in the only room available to have our drink which was the small bar. It was filthy. The glass table was full of smears, dust and circles where the glasses had been sat. Fresh flowers in the vase lovely but vase was slimed with dirty water in it. We were not happy with the cleanliness or the staff. We were in room 15 in the court yard. Opening the door the carpet in and up the stairs was disgusting. Hadn't seen a Hoover in a long time. Our room although large with nice new curtains & an attempt to update the furnishings it was filthy and hadn't been cleaned and prepared for our arrival !!! I spent an hour trying to clean with toilet paper the toilet so we could use it. Urine over it. The bath not clean, hair etc still in it, the sink filthy with toothpaste and soap remnants over it and on the dirty mirror. Floor dirty, bath panel cracked with a hole in it. The bed had not been changed from the previous occupants as it was also dirty unmade and full of someone's personal body hair ! ( we stopped counting after 12...). We immediately asked reception to send someone up and they arrived and agreed with us. We decided to leave. Did I mention this was booked as a SUPERIOR DOUBLE at £119 B&B. We unfortunately left in a hurry to find alternative arrangements but left our phone charger behind plugged in. We rang and said we would pick it up the next day. We arrived to be told it was not in the room !!! ...??? Sorry it's a long winded review but feel very let down & annoyed to be mis led by this hotel and would definitely not go back or recommend it to anyone.

"Nice stay but noisy"

Jenny M, Clydach, Wales, United Kingdom 14/07/2019

Stayed here one night with husband during trip to Silverstone F1 . Hotel itself is lovely and clean and food tasty . My only complaint is the noise at 2am from guests together with staff members who were drinking in the courtyard . Loud chatter with some unpleasant language being shouted at 2.30 in the morning meant we only had around three hours sleep. Didn't think that this was a very professional.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear Jenny, Thank you for taking the time to review our Country Inn. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the food & bedroom cleanliness. My apologies regarding the noise, i will investigate this matter further as we are unable to operate after the hours of 11pm and certainly noise levels after 9pm so other guests can get a peaceful night sleep. Kind Regards, David Musgrove General Manager

"Very friendly pub hotel"

Vacation02474885125, Winchester, United Kingdom 24/06/2019

A nice pub hotel which we stayed at with two dogs, pleasant staff, nice food, comfortable room. Breakfast was very good with a choice of continental or cooked, the evening meal was lovely, a small choice of menu but it covered every taste. We will stay again when the need arises.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear Vacatopm02474885125, Thank you for taking a few minutes to review you recent visit to The Jersey Arms Country Inn. We are pleased to hear that you and your pets enjoyed the time spent here. We do have a small menu which changes on a daily basis. Looking forward to your next visit! Regards, David Musgrove General Manager

"Not a hotel"

User 18/06/2019

This is by no means a proper Hotel. Management very poor and non professional I would also say a bit smart alec type of Management. We are used to so much better service here in Ireland. I appreciate that the building is very old and it's beautiful but could be managed so much better. The premises closes each day after breakfast until late afternoon therefore no facility for lunch. No shops nearby there is a bus service but no information given to us by Hotel Management.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear Sherpa25317762334, Thank you for taking the time to review our Country Inn, The Jersey Arms. As a small operation here we are unable to serve lunch during the day and only operate with Breakfast & Dinner. We are located in a small rural village which is only minutes away from Bicester Town & the M40 which is difficult if you do not drive or have no hired a car. We do have a Italian Restaurant a few minutes walk in the village which is open for lunch, however we were given the impression that the party would be out visiting local attractions & preparing for the wedding held locally. Providing we would of know in advanced regarding lunch we could of made some arrangements for your party. The local bus service runs past the hotel Monday to Saturday with timetables at reception available on request. We are sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay with us and will work on the feedback you have given.

"Nice hotel with lovely, spacious rooms. Good breakfast, good value for money."

User 14/06/2019

This is a very nice, clean hotel and good value for money. The rooms in the courtyard are very spacious and have good facilities such as tea, coffee, biscuits. Bed was comfy and very big and we only booked the standard double! Breakfast was tasty and staff were helpful and friendly. Only let down was that the girl serving our breakfast was on her own running both the dining room AND reception. We had to wait a very long time for our breakfast and hot drinks, juices etc were constantly running low, because of understaffing and letting one person handle all areas. This was the girl's second week and apparently the second time she had been left to do everything alone. It was a Sunday, lots of people stay on Saturday nights and it's a given that check out/breakfast are both going to be busy. The hotel should prepare and have more staff on, at least over the weekend.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Hello, Thank you for being patient with service on Sunday, I understand your upset over how Breakfast went during your stay, i assure you we only allow team on their own once confident, and try to provide extra help behind the scenes here at The Jersey Arms. We are a small operation which rely on part-time team members. We will address the staffing to see if there is anything else we can do. We are pleased to here you enjoyed the room & facilities.

"Must try harder"

pennvyaj42, cubert 04/06/2019

Our room was very spacious, clean and comfortable and despite overlooking the main road, quiet. Otherwise, there was no hot water in either the bathroom basin or the power shower until after 0930. My wife resorted to boiling a kettle for a wash and to wash her hair, I was able to use the room of travelling companions for a cool shower. Trying to shave with cold water was not a pleasant experience. Might be acceptable to some-not us. The breakfast was-all right-nothing better. Service was very amateur and slapdash. We would not return.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear pennvyaj42, We are sorry to hear you did not receive our very best service while you visited The Jersey Arms. I am not sure as to why the hotel water in your room did not come on til 9:30am as the hot water is on consistent - i shall work with the housekeeping team to locate which rooms and to ensure hot water comes through efficiently. The chef is currently in the process of upgrading our breakfast offerings in the continental selection to a larger variety. We do hope you may be able to give us a second chance in the future. "Overnight stay"

helenwooly, uk 19/05/2019

Booked this hotel as we were attending a 60th birthday party nearby. We had room 3 which was spacious and clean. Large bathroom considering the building is very old. Large bath towels. Tea tray with tea, coffee, milk and biscuits. Decor was very nice but shame about the tv shelf and adjacent unit as they should paint it slate grey to match the bedside cabinets but that's being picky I guess. Iron and ironing board and a hairdryer too. Young man who checked us in and also was on duty for breakfast was very hospitable and friendly. Continental breakfast was a tad scare I thought but cooked breakfast which my husband had was delicious he said. Good coffee, help yourself which was great.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Hi Helenwooly, Thank you for review our County Inn. We so pleased you enjoyed the rooms and the team. We haven't finished with the refurbishment progress, and the minor work for the desk/tv console will be addressed including an update in the bathrooms. I am sorry to hear the continental buffet was replenished in time for you to fill up at the start of your day. We hope to see you again. Regards, The JA Team

"A big disappointment"

Peter P, Bexleyheath, United Kingdom 11/05/2019

First the good news: towels and bed linen were spotlessly clean, the décor in bedroom fine. Unfortunately the description of the hotel is far removed from reality. Location advertised as "far enough away you won't be disturbed by the traffic". This is not a quiet hotel, it stands in the middle of two extremely busy roads with lorries thundering past. A change of room was eventually given. Also the evening meal was overpriced considering it was unimaginative and poorly presented (not as shown in the Gallery Photos). The carpets around the entrance, bar and stairs smelt. We had to cancel a planned 2nd night and a discount was given to compensate.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Hi Peter, We would like to thank you for the valid points you have made clear to us on here and also in person. I am sorry that the noise did not calm down after the 'normal' busy times (rush hour). I have arranged some quotes for secondary glazing to be install in all bedrooms. I have also sent out and website update to our Marketing team to ensure the advertised 'quiet' hotel is removed until the noise issue has been addressed. With regards to the food, as our menu changes every couple of days the pictures online are of dishes we have had on the menu which do make a regular return. Our Vegetables & Meat is all sourced locally and fresh vegetables can be prepared for you meal on request. We will update the menu so this is stated clearly. We do hope you will consider returning in the future once all the recommended changes has been applied. We are still currently in a refurbishment process throughout the hotel, with the bathrooms to be changed next, once the bathrooms have been finished we will then move on the the corridors throughout this includes replacing the very old carpets. Regards, David Musgrove, General Manager The Jersey Arms

Wanted somewhere to stay near Oxford found the Jersey Arms by searching online for hotels close by, Good location not too far out nice small hotel nice staff had dinner there one night very good, Only criticism was room was very noisy due to traffic, old building old windows not keeping noise out but were told they were looking into trying new glazing to help, at least it did quieten down later in the evening so didn't disturb our sleep, would definitely stay again.

Booked a couple of days before location was the main reason. On arrival were warmly welcomed check in quick and easy. Our allocated room hadn't been cleaned a quick call to reception and we were moved within a few minutes to a similar room. Food is excellent with generous portions lovely relaxed atmosphere. Visited hotel on a business trip for few days. Hotel is nice, cleAn and with friendly staff. However food was poor quality and not much choice in the evenings. No menus and meals were written on a black board in the bar and had to get up to go and see it from the other room. Major issue is the unfriendly couple of locals, first night changing the menu (this was after the kitchen had closed). They were taking the piss out of the police who were staying at the hotel.even going behind the bar to ontain thd pens to do this. Then on the last night coming out with comments to one of the officer that were staying and had been working late meaning they missed the kitchen being open. This person cameout with some nasty and rude comments. About how they felt uncomfortable with them being there. Staff didnt say anything to the person either. Perhaps staff need to have a think about what is more important? However it was nice of the staff to allow them to eat their take away in the bar.

DCMusgrove, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Hi Dixie940, Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. I am sorry to here you have mixed experiences throughout your stay. Yes we do not have printed menus so that we can change the menu regularly (every other day) with fresh products. With regards to the food quality, we currently have a temp chef on while our chef is on annual leave, so i can feed to comments back to the chef on cover. I am aware of the comment made by another guest when the officer arrived at the hotel, and I was led to believe it was just a joke. I am sorry to hear that it caused offence and will speak with the guest in question. As a small operation our kitchen does close at 8:45pm Mon-Sat & at 6pm on a Sunday, so when duty calls for you to work later then expected; bringing takeaway back isn't a problem for us. Once again, i was a pleasure to have you and your colleagues stay with us and apologies for the issues that arose. We hope you will be able to give us a second chance. Regards, David & the JA Team.

I stay at the Jersey regularly through work commitments. Staying away from home isn't easy, but when it's at the Jersey, it's so much easier. The food is good and the staff become like family. There are some great rooms and decent local amenities. I will always choose the Jersey given the choice.

Lovely traditional pub/hotel which was ideal for my 3 day business trip. Very warm welcome and great traditional food both days. I had the Gammon Steak which was probably one of the best and biggest I had eaten, in fact I couldn't finish the meal but did finish the Gammon. Great breakfast both mornings, Overall a great place to stay

Lovley building, great sized rooms and an all round good stay but some grip and focus could turn it into reliable, fun and engaging hotel. Noticeably different atmosphere on the 'local's night's which was unfortunately not welcoming to guests staying in the hotel

We stayed here for one night as we were visiting the Bicester Outlet Village and the Warner Brothers Harry Potter Studio. We stayed in a nice room, large bed, tea & coffee, separate large bathroom in the attached block. We had a great breakfast and even better dinner the night before. The gammon meal was huge and everything was freshly made. It also has a free car park across the street. We would recommend this for a stay mid country at any time.

Dear Robert, Thank you for choosing The Jersey Arms to stay while you visited Bicester Village. We are lucky to be surrounded by other beautiful villages just a stones through away. Oxfordshire countryside is a beautiful place and so are the other buildings. We hope to see you return to see the finish product. Regards, Jersey Arms Team

"Friendly Country Hotel"

dat_12, Croydon, United Kingdom 08/01/2019

Located in a small village, this hotel had plenty of charm, friendly staff and good food. We chose to eat in the bar, in front of the log fire. The dinner menu wasn't large, but there was a good choice and we enjoyed the dinner (and the large breakfast the next morning). We'll definitely be back!

Sunday lunch is now served from 12 midday until 8pm so we took advantage and booked for today. We were not disappointed - a really great roast beef lunch (sirloin) with all the traditional vegetables and Yorkshire cooked to perfection. Valerie M, Bangkok, Thailand 07/12/2018

My boyfriend and I stayed there on Wednesday 5th December and Thursday 6th December. The accommodation was lovely, very warm and cosy. The breakfast was very good and well worth £10. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had dinner there last night and it was very good. My boyfriend had fish and chips and I had a chick pea, lentil wellington which was scrumptious. I would definitely have no hesitate in recommending it.

"Overpriced, tired and pretty average service"

marknG5042EJ, Penton Mewsey, United Kingdom 06/11/2018

Stayed here for just one night; on initial impressions it has potential for a nice atmosphere but in fact has no character. Pretty bland service and dated, tired looking rooms that are fitting of a throwback to the 80's. The food was ok, but like the accommodation, was overpriced. My advice is look elsewhere.

Passport813816, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear Mark N, I am sorry to hear the service you received was 'bland', we aim to give great service to all our guests. We are aware of the out-dated rooms within the hotel, but we are currently over half way of our bedroom make over. We aim to have all bedrooms completed by early 2019 then onto the Bathrooms & Public Areas. If you wish to contact the hotel direct to discuss this further, i will happy to assist. "Comfy country stay"

jobZ6245QB, Exeter, United Kingdom 01/11/2018

Really comfy bed. This is my second stay. The main house has character and is beautifully refurbished but has creaky floorboards and noisy plumbing and the rooms on the road have traffic noise. The rooms in the renovated outbuildings are more modern and quiet overlooking the courtyard. Staff are very kind and considerate and helpful. But breakfast a bit of a shambles with no special dietary options although notified ahead of time and took for ever to arrive. However, hotel noted problem and tried to make good.

David M, General Manager at Jersey Arms, responded to this review
Dear jobZ6245QB, Thank you for this great review, and thank you for coming back! You are quite right, we have refurbished a few of the rooms to a beautiful level and will carry to do he same with the remaining bedrooms. We do have some creaky floorboards and noisy plumber but it is what comes with this 800+ year old building, and will take a lot longer to repair theses issues; which will be done in due course. I apologize for the shambles of breakfast, the dietary requirements wasn't passed over to us. We aim to cater for everyone tastes & requirements. We hope to see you again for a 3rd Stay! "A delightful hotel!!"

helenb49, somerset 26/10/2018

Stayed for one night ended en route to Norfolk, and as soon as we arrived Guy made us feel most welcome, even apologized for the kitchen being closed for the evening.. Which wasn't a big deal for us.. Stayed in room 10,which was spacious, and very clean, but being close to the busy road, was pretty noisy... Guy sat and had a chat at breakfast, which I must say was delicious. I think The Jersey Arms is a perfect place to stay.

Dear helenb49, Thank you for this wonderful review. Unfortunately we did experience issues resulting in earlier closure of the kitchen, we are just glad to have had it open so everyone could receive the most important meal of the day! Apologies for the traffic noise you experience, next time you return we shall upgrade to one of the rooms which has received a beautiful makeover. Contact the hotel to make the booking! Once again, thank you for this great review. We hope to see you again in the near future! Warm Regards, David M

We had our annual reunion at the hotel, arriving to warm sunshine where Guy made the six of us very welcome in the courtyard garden. We all had renovated rooms which had been done up tastefully, our beds were extremely comfortable. We had tea and coffee in our rooms with luxury biscuits! Gary the head chef cooked us all super meals, my lamb shank was one of the best I have tasted. Great food all round thank you Gary. Our room was very quiet and we were greeted in the morning with a fab cooked breakfast. Super service and staff. Thank you.

"Short Break"

User 16/10/2018

We stayed for two nights in one of the suites at this hotel. The room was large, with a seperate lounge & bathroom. Although this room hasent been refurbished yet it was clean & comfortable. There was an issue with the shower but the staff very helpful in getting this sorted so that it had no impact on the quality of our stay. The cooked breakfast was good quality & cooked to order. The restaurant food was also very good & of generous proportions. All of the staff were friendly & helpful and we would not hesitate to stay again if we were in the area.

Good afternoon Steve. Thank you from me personally and all our wonderful staff at The Jersey. We are sorting out the shower as we speak/write. I was staying at the Jersey arms for Business for a few days. The staff were polite and friendly and the hotel offered a very very good service. The bedroom and bathroom were a good size especially for the price. The Food and meals were expertly made and very well presented. The Chef would always come out of the kitchen to ask customers if the food was okay. this doesnt happen in other hotels. Guy the General Manager was extremely helpful. He was friendly, and no matter how busy he always found time to enggte with the customers, he was a perfect Front of House for the Jersey Arms. Our work takes us all over the Country but without a doubt the Jersey Arms is one of our favourite places to stay. I would say if you are aiming to stay anywhere in the area then i would definately choose the Jersey Arms. A huge thank you to Guy for making our stay so enjoyable.

"Not good value"

nightscot, London, United Kingdom 14/10/2018

There was a large lounge attached to the room, although a new looking t.v and stand the carpet, 2 tables and sofa's appeared worn, nothing matched. This room was poorly lit, there was 7 bulbs blown. The bathroom had a laminate floor, there was a mat but it was not non slip, the bath was not non slip, and no bath mat. We were told the shower did not work so we would have to use the bath. The bath took ages before hot water came through I almost gave up.. The bedroom was good, bed was comfy. The rooms were very clean. The food we ordered in the restaurant although not extensive was a good variety, it was excellent and plentiful, the chef came out to every table during the meal to check satisfaction, we only heard excellent reply's, an excellent touch.. We felt the lack of breakfast , and shower did not reflect the value we had for £90 paid for the night.

"Quaint hotel "

I stayed for one night. Friendly staff on arrival. Single room small with good facilities iron, ironing board, fan ,heater, tea / coffee. The food was tasty , although a limited choice. Breakfast was to order. Again all staff friendly throughout the stay. Free car park opposite the hotel , so had to cross a main road and try and dodge the cars. Overall a pleasant stay and would recommend and stay there again

"Best Western The Jersey Arms Hotel"

Ron S, New York City, New York 09/10/2018

While planning this trip we decided to stay in as many old inns as possible, at the same time looking for a combination of the charm of an old English inn and a comfortable and inhabitable place. This hotel fits the description perfectly. The 800-year old building is well maintained. The room was relatively spacious, in great condition, with a modern bathroom, and the furnishings creating nice ambience. The hotel faces a busy road but the rooms are located around the courtyard and are so quiet we slept with an open window. Good wi-fi signal, but for some reason my phone did not work inside the room, I had to get out to make a call. The parking is across the street but only about 50 yards from the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. We did not try their restaurant but it seems to be popular with the locals.

Stayed a couple of nights on business and the staff was very welcoming. Undergoing refurbishment at present and it will be great when finished. Only downside is the carpark being the other side of the road - but at least there is a carpark! Food was excellent cannot fault the chef!!

dpl343677, General Manager at The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Ndampha. Thank you for your review - I value my guests feedback. Yes indeed we are currently undergoing our refurbishment which will be completed by the end of November 2018. We cannot do much about the car park ........ but at least there is plenty of space !!! Gary our Head Chef is a gem !!! Take care, and we hope to see you back with us soon. Kindest regards Guy Churcher General Manager The Jersey Arms Hotel.

"Two night stay near Oxford, Blenheim, and Bicester"

James C, Glasgow 29/09/2018

This hotel appeared to undergoing refurbishment at present. We had a suite in the Old Forge area. The bedroom was comfortable but the lounge was in need of updating and with better lighting. The furniture appeared old and in need of renewal. Staff were pleasant and food was good. Its proximity to Oxford and the Park and Ride for the city were not a far away. On our second day we had a lovely trip to Blenheim , again not too far from the hotel. Bicester Village was an interesting place to visit on our last morning. .

dpl343677, General Manager at The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Dear James. Indeed our 800 year old hotel is undergoing a complete makeover which will be completed by the end of November 2018. All the rooms are being given a careful and considerate re-work baring in mind the property is 800 + years old. We look forward to welcoming you back at anytime, and if you wish to stay in one of the rooms that we have thus far finished, please let me know personally and I shall look after you. Have a good weekend. Kindest regards. Guy Churcher General Manager The Jersey Arms Hotel.

"Home from home"

User 27/09/2018

The Jersey Arms is a hidden gem, without any doubt. From the first instant, I've never felt more welcome or more comfortable in a hotel. The staff, from the top man, Guy, through the charming bar staff, to the genius in the kitchen, Gary, really do go the extra mile at every opportunity. The rooms are clean and comfortable with good WiFi, (lovely biscuits) and soft beds and the bar is well stocked and frequently used by a great mix of characters that ensure each night is memorable. This is the first hotel I've stayed in where the owner loves to sit and have a drink and chat with you and takes a genuine interest in your comfort and wellbeing. The food is out of this world and Gary curates a top-notch menu, that he regularly updates and is more than happy to sit and discuss with you. Nothing is too much trouble for these guys and I will certainly be staying here as often as I can. I can't praise the place enough. Top drawer.

Good evening Tom. Thank you so very much for your great review, and the wonderful compliments as well. As I am certain you will appreciate - working in the hospitality industry can at time be very hard work - HOWEVER my team and I including our talented Head Chef Gary - continue to strive forwards to offer our guests unparalleled levels of fine dining experiences and phenomenal service - so from ALL OF US A BIG THANK YOU. You must come back and stay with us again Tony. All the rooms will be refurbished by the end of November 2018 !!! Take care. Kindest regards Guy Churcher General Manager The Jersey Arms Hotel.

I have been here for a week and the staff (Guy & Dave) are brilliant always a warm welcome and you are greeted with a smile. The rooms are so comfortable I didn't want to get out of bed. The bar staff (Sophie & Z) are warm. friendly and always have a smile on there face, the Chef (Gray) doesn't just cook the best food I have had but he will come out the kitchen himself and speak to the people who are eating his food (All freshly prepared) and ask you “ Are you enjoying your meal is there anything I can do” second to none. If you stay within 25 mile radius of Bicester this is the place to stay. The building itself is an 800 year old stone building but this does not stop you having all the mod cons of WiFi but it is coupled with the quaint old English architecture of a breath taking building 5 stars if there was 6 this place would get it. A must stay for a weekend break or better still make this the place your second home.

Good afternoon Mark. Having a position such as mine and David's (along with our charismatic Chef Gary) enable's us to meet people from all walks of life. You are one of those 'special' individual's who appreciate what it is we are all trying to achieve here as a team here at The Jersey Arms Hotel. In other words a BIG THANK YOU for recognising that point, and the embodiment of an 800 year old Coaching House and its quaint and personality plus charisma. Have a great Saturday, and see you later on where we have you in Room 01 - one of our refurbished rooms !! Take care driving. Kind regards. Guy Churcher General Manager The Jersey Arms Hotel.

"A forgotten jewel"

User 20/09/2018

As a resident of Middleton Stoney we have missed having a local where the community are made to feel welcome. The new managers have been wonderful, professional, with a warm reception, good food and families welcome. A community is often built by a central meeting place and there is definitely an open invitation to locals and residents using the hotel. If you have not visited in a while and are local to the area you might be surprised. Tonight they hosted the village book club welcoming many who had not been in the bar for many years. An exciting turn around for the local area.

"A lovely country inn."

paulm1002016, St. Neots, United Kingdom 16/09/2018

I remembered years ago my Dad talking about this pub with Mike Hawthorn - it was very popular with the motor racing fraternity. So when we needed an overnight stop for the Countryside event at Blenheim I thought yes, let's see what it was like. We were welcomed by Guy and shown to our room which was a spacious 600 year old room tastefully decorated in a simplistic modern style with an excellent bathroom. The bar/lounge area was very well decorated with a good choice of beers and the food was excellent. The menu was mainly what you would expect in a country pub but very well cooked and the portions were particularly generous. Breakfast was excellent - all freshly cooked - set me uo for the day. I noticed that a lot of the visitors were there on business and I think that this hotel is what our trials engineers would have chosen, and then told me where I was staying - I would have been happy!

dpl343677, General Manager at Best Western The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Paul. Thank you for your fabulous review - much appreciated ! We would welcome you back at any time - especially after our refurbishment which will be completed at or around mid-November 2018. "Great hotel and great people"

tootrue64, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom 09/09/2018

Have stayed here for a total of four nights, over two stays, during the last month. Each time we have been made to feel so welcome by the new manager Guy. He really is such a genuinely lovely person. The courtyard rooms are spacious and very quiet with everything you need during your stay. I understand the hotel rooms are all being modernised which will make it even better. Our food was fresh and extremely tasty. Hotel is close to Bicester Town and also Bicester designer Village. Perfect place to stay and I don't think you could find nicer down to earth people like this, and such a good atmosphere in any other hotel!

This is our second stay here now, this time in a suite. Rooms are spacious and very comfy, and currently the hotel is undergoing a refurbishment, so will be even better once finished. However, no refurb needed for the fabulous new owners! Guy is lovely.... So welcoming and kind. And that is what makes this hotel such a great place to return just could not beat this superb customer service! Food was excellent too, and nothing is too much trouble. Nicest people ever. Look forward to our next stay!

Booked in here as we wanted to visit oxford but also the surrounding villages. Beautiful and quirky 800 year old inn. Very reasonably priced, staff friendly and attentive. The room we stayed in was lovely and big, very clean and full of character and very comfortable. There was everything in the room that was needed. Breakfast was lovely too, would definitely stay here again.

This is the first time I have stayed at The Jersey Arms and it won't be the last if I am in the area again on business or leisure! A warm, friendly welcome from Guy the general manager on arrival and an upgrade to one of the newly refurbished rooms. The room was spacious and comfortable and served its purpose for my short stay. A beautiful 800 year old building with plenty of traditional character and history which is in a great location for business or leisure trips. The food was deliciously cooked by Gary the chef as was the breakfast in the morning before I left. Many thanks for your wonderful hospitality, it's not often experienced these days whilst travelling up and down the country and stopping in hotels! Good luck for the future. John Smith.

dpl343677, General Manager at Best Western The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Good afternoon John. Thank you from me personally and my amazing team !!! It just goes to show that hard work and customer satisfaction is still appreciated. Wonderful that our hospitality is genuinely appreciated. The renovations are continuing throughout the hotel - and as I mentioned to you - will be completed around early November 2018. I really look forward to your return to 'The Jersey' be it for work or leisure. Take care, and have a good weekend. Kindest regards. Guy Churcher General Manager The Jersey Arms Hotel.

"Rescued in our hour of need."

Redderz40, Birmingham, United Kingdom 29/08/2018

Unfortunately, on the way to our holiday, we broke down and the car was unusable. The RAC organised an overnight stay at The Jersey Arms Hotel which was nearby. We arrived at midnight and even though the reception was closed, our key was left in a safe with clear instructions about where to go. The room was great. It was spacious and had everything that we needed and we had a good nights sleep. In the morning, we met the manager, Guy, who went above and beyond to help us in our plight. He was very friendly and helpful. He said that we could use the hotel phone and also arranged for a bacon sandwich and coffee for breakfast (the stay did not include breakfast) free of charge. We were well looked after by a Guy and his team. The hotel is under new management (6 weeks) and I would highly recommend a stay here. Thank you to Guy and the team for your hospitality. It was greatly appreciated. Rachel and Dave

"Great Base for Silverstone"

barbicanview, plymouth 27/08/2018

Our usual hotel was full for MotoGp weekend so had to cast net in different direction and what a find. Jersey Arms is a character property with lots of old world charm and history. It's 20 minutes to the track and very easy drive. All the staff were welcoming, friendly, fun, courteous and extremely helpful. Gary (Chef) served up great portions of very tasty hot (temperature) food in the evening (we were away early before breakfast so didn't get to sample it). We missed the BBQ on Saturday as late back from track but Manager Guy insisted on rustling us up something to eat including dessert (sorry David ??) Our room in the courtyard was huge, clean and comfortable, with lots of room to dry our wet clothes ready for the next day. Plenty of sockets to charge gadgets and free WiFi. The Jersey Arms is undergoing lots of refurbishment as only taken over 5 weeks ago. Give them a go, you won't be disappointed, but just make sure you leave us a space for MotoGp weekends as we would love to return

Dear Barbicanview. We have this week started our refurbishment which will be completed by mid-November 2018. "Great accommodation while attending the ELMS/WEC weekend at Silverstone."

Neil S, St Helier, Jersey 21/08/2018

This hotel is in a great location just off the M40 motorway and about a 25 minute drive from Silverstone in a quiet village. The room I had was in one of the outbuildings and was simply huge with a very comfortable bed. As it is an old coaching inn of 800 year's vintage the team are very happy to tell you some of the history of the establishment should you be interested. I was. There is a lovely bar and restaurant staffed by a very helpful and friendly team. Breakfast was a fabulous full English, freshly prepared. Would definitely stay here again.

In the heart of the countryside this find is truly a gem. Its beautiful beer garden and quirky unique rooms are matched perfectly by the amazing service and exceptional food. Gary the head chef truly has a talent and great passion for cooking, he was incredibly accommodating to us all especially our vegan colleague who has never been so well looked after on a work trip. You can tell from in conversation with this man that he truly loves what he does and it shows in the food. Guy the owner was incredibly funny and friendly and when above and beyond to make sure that we felt welcome and comfortable. A great little place in a truly beautiful part of the world. Stayed as a group, very happy with my stay. Comfortable, suitable and appetizing! Hospitality was amazing, would visit again with my friends and family. The food was out of this world, very fortunate to have a classy chef. We had a vegan in our group and he supplied her with decent vegan wine and food. The manager was very kind and his hosiptality skills are on point.

"Genial Host, Old world charm, great value."

Neil C, Kent, United Kingdom 12/08/2018

We booked at the last possible minute and arrived very late. We were shown to the bar, offered sandwiches and drinks, and in our own time taken to our rooms in a converted blacksmith's forge off a pretty courtyard. The suite was spacious with sofas in the lounge and a large, comfortable bed. In the morning I enjoyed a full cooked breakfast, juice, toast, fruit and a pastry. My wife had a fine vegetarian equivalent. The Jersey Arms was a random internet find when a rainstorm spoiled our plan to camp. - we struck very lucky.

"Very welcoming"

User 07/08/2018

Stayed here over a 3 week period with work, during which the hotel manager changed. The new manager is very welcoming and friendly as are the staff which added to the experience. Rooms are large and comfortable with everything you need, clean and tidy, with plans of refreshing the decor imminent. Food was delicious, both evening meal and breakfast. Had an minor hiccup one evening with a delayed service which was dealt with honestly and generously compensated. Would definitely return in the future

Good afternoon Steve. Thank you for your fabulous review. As a team we are committed and determined to ensure the continuing success of The Jersey which could not be achieved without our excellent staff. "Lovely hotel manager and staff"

User 01/08/2018

I stayed here the night before my graduate assessment centre in Ardley. I arrived later than the check-in time due to bad traffic and the hotel manger stayed up to wait for me to check-in after midnight! When I got there, my room was very well prepared, really cosy and there were sandwiches waiting for me! The hotel manager and the staff were very nice, I felt very welcome here and felt more like I was visiting a family rather just sleeping in a hotel. Really enjoyed my stay. Although it was very warm in summer (there was a fan which I've found the next morning, my bad) and I got woken up a few times by a very loud bike and other vehicles driving past in the late night. It didn't seem like a busy road so this might be an unusual occasion. In summary, the room was clean, cosy, lovely staff, excellent service, very nice garden and beautiful lounge on top of the hotel room. Definitely stay here again if I visit the area. Also got the job offer from the graduate assessment centre! A good night sleep in this hotel has really helped me to perform very well the next day!! Thank you!

dpl343677, General Manager at Best Western The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Dear I N. Congratulations on getting the job - excellent news. Where are you being sent to? Thank you for your superb review of our 800 year old coaching inn and our care towards service !! Take care - and hope to see you again soon. Kind regards Guy Churcher General Manager The Jersey Arms Hotel.

"Has Character"

DJWtt, Warwick, United Kingdom 30/07/2018

We stayed here after a long and exhausting day. The staff were welcoming and attentive. The Forge Suite, where we stayed, is a surprisingly large room with characterful features. The room, were it to be spruced up a little, would be fantastic. As it was it still good value for money.

dpl343677, General Manager at Best Western The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Good evening DJWtt. I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Today we had a team of interior designers and builders at the hotel, and we start our re-vamp on the rooms mid-September. We are starting with rooms 1 to 5 first. So I hope that you can come back soon to re-visit. Have a good end of July. Kindest regards. Guy Churcher General Manager Jersey Arms Hotel.

"Warm welcome, character hotel"

Lynda N, Bath, United Kingdom 29/07/2018

The staff were very friendly and nothing was to much trouble. Stayed in Lantry suite which was really quirky, it had a lounge area and upstairs bedroom with 4 poster bed and bathroom with a decent shower even though the rooms are due for revamp all were clean and had everything we needed. The Dining room was full of character enhanced by the excellent food which was very good value. This old Coaching Inn still remains in a prime location Blenheim Palace, Bicester Outlet centre, Heyford Park and Oxford all within a short distance. Such a lovely atmosphere at the hotel just wished we had more time to enjoy. Will definitely be back.

dpl343677, General Manager at Best Western The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Good afternoon Lynda. It was a pleasure to meet you both. Thank you for your very favourable review - you will have to come back once we have had the rooms upgraded. Have a great week - and once again the pleasure was all ours. Kindest regards. Guy Churcher General Manager Jersey Arms Hotel.

"Mixed feelings"

Brian F, Bordeaux, France 29/07/2018

I have known this hotel practically all of my life and have drunk there often in the past and dined there often but not for many years. I was attending the Silverstone Classic with my cousin who lives in Middleton Stoney and so I reserved the hotel for 4 nights. It is under new management and previously had not been dynamic. The new manager and staff were very welcoming and accommodating and I was relaxed there until an incident involving middle management soured the entire Sunday evening and my stay. I have been assured that this was to be addressed and subsequent reviews appear to confirm the fact! The food was excellent and the staff overall were competent and efficient, the meals are first class prepared by a competent and friendly chef Gary. The building is of character and one of the few places where one can relax in traditional surroundings these days. One of the best places to try if you are passing through or vising Bicester, oxford, Woodstock, Banbury, Stratford, Cotswolds and other historical places of interest. Disregard the comments about the busy road - it is busy but there are traffic lights within fifty yards and the road is easily negotiated to the spacious and secure car park.

dpl343677, General Manager at Best Western The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Brian. Thank you for your kind words. The issue you refer to has already been addressed. I look forward to seeing you back at the hotel. Kind regards. Guy Churcher General Manager The Jersey Arms.

"Keep this to yourselves"

Mike_the_plumb, England 24/07/2018

A great find, not far from the motorway. Landlord ( Guy ) is very helpful and friendly. Was assured that the rooms are to be refurbished, which they probably need. However its a great location near Bicester with a nice little bar and a welcoming attitude

dpl343677, General Manager at Best Western The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Mike. Thank you very much for your words of praise and support. We are due to start our room refurbishment in the next few days - as we are well aware they need to be brought up to a higher specification. When you take over the management of a hotel there are always 'things' to do to improve our village pub/hotel kerb appeal - and they will all be addressed. Would love to see you back in the very near future. Best wishes. Guy. General Manager.

Accommodation was clean and functional. The staff were very attentive and very friendly. Food was extremely good and well priced, and service was superb. "Very friendly and helpful"

malc75, Fleet, United Kingdom 23/07/2018

A best western hotel, so not 5 star, but a nice country pub with rooms. The bedroom was large and comfortable, with a decent en suite, and a fan provided as the weather was very hot. Food was good, and the managers extremely friendly and helpful. I was attending the Silverstone classics day in a nearly 50 year old E Type, and was worried about leaving it in the open car park across the road, so the manager moved HIS car from the private drive to the car park and let me park on the drive. Very kind.

dpl343677, General Manager at Best Western The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Good afternoon Malcolm. I hope you got home okay after the Silverstone event? It was a pleasure to meet you both - and you must pop back after our refurbishment !! Thank you very much for your kind words. Kindest regards. Guy Churcher General Manager The Jersey Arms Hotel.

"Cottage Hotel"

HavieBoy, Glasgow, United Kingdom 22/07/2018

Booked this hotel to visit family in Bicester. Nice place but needing a lot of TLC. The hotel was bought over not that long ago and we arrived at the same time as the new General Manager and he was adamant that the hotel and staff would be upgraded. Drawback is the fact that the car park is across the road, which is sometime very busy. On booking in we were told of a new policy that had just been implemented, you were shown to your room. Too many hotels tell you that the lift is just over there and you have to find the room yourself. Had evening meal on the first night, very good. Lovely little courtyard in the center of the hotel, but other guests and staff went just outside the rear door to smoke, which was outside our room and the smoke filtered into the room. We are non smokers.

dpl343677, General Manager at Best Western The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Dear HavieBoy. Thank you for your review. We are very aware that the hotel is in need of upgrading and TLC. This is being done over the next few weeks (even though it is the high season) which will result in a shinier product. We certainly show guests to their rooms - out of courtesy and professionalism !! We have since changed the staff smoking policy. I hope you will return to us soon. Kindest regards Guy Churcher General Manager The Jersey Arms Hotel.

"Poor quality hotel"

Swilco0912, Southampton, United Kingdom 09/07/2018

We stayed here on a Saturday night and paid £102 which was a rip off, I wish I had refused to pay. Very dated room, lights hanging from ceiling in bedroom and not working in the bathroom. Hosts not at all welcoming. Surprised it's not been closed down , I guess the fact that people like us turn up and pay the overpriced rate keeps them going. Can't imagine it gets very busy in the bar as when we returned just before 11 the place was already locked up. If you need a hotel in Bicester take my advice and find a travelodge it would feel like 5star luxury compared to this place.

"Very nice little cottage hotel."

Kelly C, Exeter, United Kingdom 29/06/2018

This is a very pleasant little two star hotel which is conveniently located for Bicester and Oxford. Prices are reasonable and our room (Room 10) was well-appointed and charming. There is a nice garden in the central courtyard where guests can sit and enjoy a drink from the bar. The bed was comfy and the room well-equipped; the shower was excellent. Breakfast was a little disappointing, however: service was a bit slow (we were in a hurry) and, although there was a space for croissants at the buffet table, none were available. The bread was sliced, rather than fresh, but the Full English breakfast had by my husband was fine. Overall, a very charming and quaint hotel in a great location - just a little bit of improvement on the breakfast and it would be deserving of five stars.

"Two star hotel and it shows"

Gwendoline2014, Oxford, United Kingdom 18/06/2018

I've looked at some of the previous reviews and have to wonder if they were reviewing the wrong hotel. To be honest, the hotel a low quality two star venue. Firstly we paid £102 for Saturday night stay which was scandalous for the level of accomodation. We didn't eat in the hotel at all so I cannot comment on that part of its service. The £102 did not include breakfast so I wasn't going to pay anymore. We arrived very late so it wasn't until the morning that we realised what we had stayed in. Firstly the room was stale and musty. The rooms above creak on every movement. Electric sockets look botched. Bathroom very dated and just about holding on. The most worrying aspect was the exit door handle hardly worked which must be an issue in the event of an emergency exit. All in all very poor indeed We've never really rated Best Western hotels and this experience hasn't changed that opinion Our advice is give this hotel a miss unless you are desperate or are paying perhaps £40 for the room. Won't be staying again

"Charming ... just the place for a restful stop-over"

penelopepitstop342, Norwich, United Kingdom 26/05/2018

We stayed here last night on our way home from sunny Cornwall. Although the furnishings are perhaps a little outdated in style the hotel itself and the staff are absolutely charming and professional. We had a large comfortable and well-equipped room with a spacious en suite and slept like logs on the clean and comfortable bed ... I woke in the night (as those of us of a certain age sometimes do) and lay for a while enjoying complete silence ... certainly night-time traffic isn't a problem on Friday nights ...then I woke later at around 7 am and although there was occasional traffic passing it wasn't enough to spoil my enjoyment of the songthrush singing his heart out somewhere close by. Supper was great (and very reasonable) ... I had a huge, very tasty and tender gammon steak (the chef told me he cuts them himself from a whole gammon) with eggs, fries and peas and my OH enjoyed his scampi, fries and peas with tartare sauce. Sadly the large portions meant that we had no room for the delicious sounding apple crumble. Breakfast in the delightful oak paneled dining room was everything an English breakfast should be, and the portions were generous. We will certainly stay at The Jersey Arms again should we need an overnight stay in the area in the future.

"Good but Needs Attention."

Steve C, Knockin, United Kingdom 18/05/2018

My wife and I stayed here as a stopover on our way down to Brighton. We then stayed on our way back from Brighton. The hotel feels tired as if it is waiting for something to happen. We learned from locals that it had just been taken over and that they were expecting great developments. This may be so but we saw no evidence of it during our stay. We dined there on the first evening and, it has to be said, the food was good. However, when we were called through to the dining room from the bar, we found our food already on the table. Call me old fashioned but I am not used to this. Also, my wife likes to choose her vegetables from a dish not have the whole lot dumped on the plate. Having said that, the meal was hot and tasty. There was a wonderful “Fawlty Towers” moment when I asked the waitress for a bottle of Chardonnay. “Do you want black or white?” “I want Chardonnay”. “Ok, I get”. She brought me a glass. “No, I wanted a bottle”. “Scuse! I go”. She scurried off. The next thing is the owner arrives with the bottle out of which my glass had been poured. He bowed. “She's Spanish! I think I should learn the language”. Shades of “He's from Barcelona, you know? “ One huge plus is that the breakfast is cooked to order and it is good. It would be nice to be given a pot of coffee rather than a cup but that is a quirk of mine. The coffee was good. It's a good place for a stopover but if it wants to attract tourists to the area it needs attention.

Thank you for your comments. Your request was to be informed when your food was ready, as you were in the bar. I did apologise for the language difficulties of our staff and assisted to solve the problem, with your wine order. Unfortunately we serve our meals plated ( including vegetables) Thank you for your stay

"want a sleepless night ? stay here."

colw33, Suffolk, United Kingdom 08/05/2018

our stop-over one night stay en-route to the west country was dreadful, quite the worst hotel we have ever stayed in and will put us off best western hotels for evermore. we parked in the hotel free carpark across a busy road and trundled our cases to the hotel front door and promptly given a key to room 18 which required us to walk ouside and pull our cases along to a cottage door numbered 17 & 18, up steep narrow stairs to no.18. the room was quite large but ordinary whilst the bathroom still had a past guest towel hanging up. there was the usual tea, coffee items available but only two tine tubs of milk, our afternoon tea soon used the milk and more was requested later in the bar but never arrived so the morning coffee didn't happen. This is all minor but irritating things that a good hotel would have got right. the biggest problem was the very busy road outside the bedroom window which would probably have been bearable had the window not been rotted and not possible to close, the road was exactly 3 meteres from that window, traffic at midnight was one vehicle per minute but at 6.0am I clocked vehicles of all shapes and sizes at one per 20 seconds, sleep had been impossible and at £99 for the experience it was a sheer rip-off. best western should inspect this place operating under their name. If you are an insomniac perhaps you can stand it but no normal guest could possible enjoy a stay in room 18. A staff member who I believe was management simply shrugged her shoulders and said "it is a busy road" when I reported our experience, no apology or comment about the faulty rotting window.

"Super Country hotel and restaurant. "

Kish17, Tiverton, United Kingdom 25/04/2018

We stayed here for one night at the end of March. We had driven up from Devon for a weekend of shopping at Bicester Village. What a lovely hotel! We received a warm welcome and were shown to a lovely room with excellent facilities. We had a super dinner in the restaurant, the food was divine as was the breakfast the next morning. The hosts could not do enough for us. We will definitely be staying here again. Absolutely loved it!

"Great place and very friendly"

Steve J, Rainham, United Kingdom 15/04/2018

I have stayed here from Jan 23rd 2018 until April 16th for work going home every other weekend. It's a lovely old quaint building with really nice friendly staff. I had a kingsize room, like a mini suite and it was like a home from home. Nice and peaceful after long days, food is excellent. I would recommend it to anyone.

"Very friendly and great value"

Johnfrisbee, Christchurch, United Kingdom 18/03/2018

A warm welcome on a chilly, damp March evening after a 100 mile drive. I'd booked late, so only got a single room overlooking the main road. I'm a light sleeper, so I wore my earplugs & took herbal sleeping tablets to help with the traffic noise. The room was good, nice shower, comfy bed with nice pillows, but the floor was very dirty and needed a good vacuuming. (I told the friendly staff on checking out - they apologised and made a note to do. Fair enough.) I ate dinner in the bar. Delicious sausages & mash with onion gravy. Absolutely delicious although for me, the veg were a tad over-cooked. No worries though and very good value. Tasty soup + crusty roll starter. The Sky Sports' commentary vied for supremacy over the commercial radio in the bar - and won. Superb breakfast in the lovely restaurant - what a nice room, what a nice place to be. Excellent service, super-friendly waitress. In fact all the staff here were lovely. In warmer weather, the outside courtyard would be a good place to chill. A pile of empty hanging baskets, waiting to be filled for the Spring, was a good sign! I've been a little picky, but The Jersey Arms was a friendly place to stay the night. Bags of character, a million miles from formula, large modern hotels, and all the better for that. Superb value.

"Lovely Comfortable Country Hotel"

User 29/01/2018

Stayed here Friday and Saturday nights, to attend a nearby training weekend, with my friend. Lovely old Inn with quirky rooms situated outside - possibly an old stable block? Anyhow, lovely twin room with all facilities: clean, well decorated, and quiet. Staff were courteous and helpful. R Ate in the restaurant both nights and had a lovely meal both nights, with a good wine list. It was quiet probably due the time of year, but no compromise on service. Can't comment on breakfast as we didn't eat it due to cooking for other people elsewhere. Fully recommend the hotel, and highly likely to book next year too.

"Saturday night stay"

Snorri1, Southport, United Kingdom 29/01/2018

I usually stay elsewhere on my visits in this area. I was a bit dubious when I first saw the building - but were met on arrival shown to our room- upstairs and the staff member assisted me with my suitcase. The room was pleasant clean with all usual facilities. Wifi easy to connect. One bedside light was not working but was fixed whilst we had our meal. The meal was excellent and the staff were very helpful and pleasant. We enjoyed our stay and will certainly consider staying there when we next are in the area. Very good value for money.

"Excellent attention to detail "

Iansheffield_13, Sheffield, United Kingdom 25/01/2018

The room was large and airy with a comfortable kingsize bed. Great attention to details with the small things like a good selection of biscuits, bottled water etc Well equipped bathroom too Good helpful staff and we will certainly again

User 23/01/2018

Upon arrival, I was greeted by the owners who were polite and friendly. I was shown to my room which was a nice touch and found the room to be cosy, warm and immaculately clean. As I'd been working all day I needed to purchase some essentials before settling in. I asked the owner where the nearest supermarket was and he gave me some very straightforward driving directions to one just up the road. I didn't eat here (I have strict dietary requirements) but I did purchase a pint of Guinness which cost approx £3.60. Wi-fi had a strong signal and the hotel's location was perfect, rural but within easy reach of Oxford and numerous tourist attractions.

"Ideal location"

J. J. P, Northumberland, United Kingdom 08/12/2017

The Jersey Arms is an ideal location for exploring Blenheim, Oxford even, and the surrounding villages and small towns. The rooms are pleasantly relaxing and tastefully furnished with good quality furnishings. All the staff were welcoming; such a comfort after a long journey. The location, set amid country roads, far from the motorway, ensured a quiet night's sleep.

"A Great Little Find!"

User 28/11/2017

I booked The Jersey Arms last minute and wasn't sure about it being a Best Western - but I was pleasantly surprised! It made a nice change to the clinical PremierInn or Travelodge visits elsewhere. I arrived early, but the Managers and all the staff were very friendly and welcoming - they even walked me to the room to check All was good. I stay in Room 9 which is a king sized annexe - comfy big bed, clean and spacious. Unfortunately they don't serve lunch, but the bar was open. Wi-fi was good throughout. For dinner I had a hearty gammon steak and chips - awesome! Great value, excellent service - give it a try!

Thank you for your great feedback. The staff really appreciates your comments. We look forward to your next stay and we will be serving lunch very soon.

"Shocking Dirty Room"

Chris W, Rugby, United Kingdom 26/11/2017

Having booked last minute on a business trip I called to say I would be checking in after 11pm. I was told a key would be left in a box next to the side entrance as nobody would be available from 10pm. This was all fine and the key was there when I arrived. When entering the room it was disgusting and I couldn't wait to get out. The bed had been slept in and was untucked and dirty, a used coffee cup was on the side with the desk chair pulled out. The toilet seat was up, the shower used, and dirty towels on the towel rail. This resulted in me travelling an hour and a half home to get sleep as nowhere else was available that late at night and I had to have just 3hrs sleep before returning to work the next day. I complained to who I'd booked through and the hotel refused to refund the money. Thankfully have paid me back themselves. Shocking service, hideous room, and will never recommend this place to anyone.

dpl343677, General Manager at Best Western The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review

"Pleasant Surprise"

User 15/11/2017

Just 5 min from the M40, in a delightful village near Bicester, this hotel proved to be a little gem. We arrived very late but the welcome and key arrangements were fine. The room was well decorated, furnished and equipped. A comfortable bed made for a good night's sleep. An 800 yr old coaching inn situated next to a cross roads meant there was traffic noise from around 7am, but otherwise extremely quiet and peaceful. Pleasant, welcoming staff, and a good breakfast meant it's the kind of hotel I'd like to return to.

Mappy158, Shrewsbury, England, United Kingdom 16/10/2017

We stayed at The Jersey Arms last weekend, car park is over the road from the hotel, this is a very busy road so please be very careful if you arrive with children. Some of the hotel rooms are more like chalets than rooms in a hotel and the entrance was off the rear beer garden which was quite nice. When we ask where the room was we were told that the door was opposite the big blue linen bins. The room when we entered smelt of damp and a bit musty, but overall very clean, we took the spare pillows out of the wardrobe only to find that it had black mildew marks. One of the light bulbs had blown in the room and the “off switch” on the TV remote didn't work so you had to get out of bed and turn the TV off at the wall. The building is very old and due to this there is no sound proofing and you can hear people walking around upstairs and even their conversations at 1:30 am when they arrived back from their night out. The check in and check out was a little uncomfortable as the staff / management seemed a little bit grumpy and we didn't even get a smile. When leaving, some staff who were about to clean the rooms both said goodbye with big smiles, which was nice. I wouldn't stay there again as I think that the rooms are a little over priced and didn't include breakfast which was an optional extra.

"one night stay"

elizabeth m, Cottingham, United Kingdom 12/10/2017

The room and food were fine and excellent service. The car park was across the road and it is set on a corner with trafficlights. It is an old coaching inn and you have to accept the decor accordingly.

"Disappointed "

Simon R, Snape, United Kingdom 09/10/2017

Booked through and the photos gave the impression of a quaint, rural, gastro-pub type place. The food was OK, but very average. The same applies to the staff and the room - nothing terrible, but just so-so. The second-worst aspect was having a room on the roadside. It's quite busy and noisy if you like your windows open. The worst was the bed - I don't have a back back, but (for the first two nights, until I tried the other side of the bed for the third and last night), I woke in quite considerable pain. Without doubt, the least comfortable bed and be ever slept in...and I use around 70 different hotels a year, and go camping in between!

"Highly accommodating people"

Tim J, Darlington, England, United Kingdom 02/10/2017

I stayed for 8 nights on business and due to my early starting times the chef prepared an early breakfastfor me and packed meal over the weekend. Very friendly owners and staff, nothing was too much trouble I have booked 2 more stays and highly recommend the place.

"Lovely but quirky."

stevensE1032UJ, Middlesbrough, United Kingdom 09/09/2017

Arrived late in the evening and struggled to find carpark after ringing hotel was directed to carpark. Upon check-in they did explain they were having issues with the illuminated sign. The room was nice but comfortable, bathroom was okay apart from the end bath panel hanging off. Had a evening meal which was good. Breakfast was also very good. Wifi was very good.

"Like staying with family"

Londontripper55, London 07/09/2017

I stayed here whilst working in the area and loved it. The staff are friendly, the room was large and beautiful. The hotel has character and loads of old quirky features. It was like staying with family. The food is great and home cooked. Yes £10 for a burger looks a lot but when you see the burger you will see what good value it is. The hotel is a great place to stay with lovely staff and great food. I will be staying here every week for a few months and very glad.

"Lovely old quirky hotel"

User 01/09/2017

We had booked this hotel because we were supposed to be going to the MotoGP at Silverstone, but, unfortunately, that fell through. We had already paid for the hotel so went anyway. Really pleased that we did as the hotel is lovely. Very quirky and full of character. We had a room (9) out in the courtyard and were amazed at the size of it. There was a sitting area, with easy chairs, desk and chair, then down a step to a king size bed and a great ensuite (with power shower). All the usual home comforts. The owners were really pleasant and helpful and the staff were lovely. Would certainly visit again if ever in the area.

"I will be back"

GlenSt, Manama, Bahrain 29/08/2017

This was my second stay at the Jersey Arms, the first since the change of management. This is an eight hundred year old former coaching inn, situated on a busy crossroads and I am sure even in those days they complained about the noise of the traffic. Unfortunately, it can't be helped. Double-glazing is generally not an option on a listed building, which I assume this is, so realistically, there is nothing the management can do about the noise, if it is a problem. I didn't find it to be, and I was next to the main road, but we are not all the same and it will trouble some. Yes, the floorboards creak, but so do I, and I'm only sixty years old, it is something you have to live with. Most people see it as character in the building. Every morning I bumped my head leaving the room (2), but I put this down to me being a little careless and the13th century architect for not having the foresight to realise people would get taller over the centuries (I don't really blame him, I'm just clumsy.) The wifi is a little flaky and I had no phone signal at all, so if you are coming here on a business trip, it may not be your best option, but if you are here for leisure, your social media may have to wait for a few days. I am old enough to remember when we spoke to the people who were actually with us, not somebody elsewhere in the country, so maybe you could try that instead; you never know, you might find you get to like them. Alternatively, and if you are alone, you could talk to the staff. The barmaids/waitresses, Adriana and Isabella are both a delight to talk to, as are the manager and his wife. The breakfasts are well cooked and more than adequate, and I found I didn't eat again until the evening. I only had one full evening meal and again that was well cooked and presented, the portion being on the generous side. The hotel is situated just three miles from junction 10 of the M40, slightly under 4 miles from the market town of Bicester and around 17 miles (25 minutes) from Silverstone race track (the reason I was visiting again). My only criticism, sometimes both the bar and reception are unmanned, as the staff are doing something elsewhere, leaving you to search for a member of staff. Not a major negative, but one that should be addressed. Should you be seeking the slick operation of a modern hotel with all the amenities that entails, then I suggest you seek out a Hilton or Marriott, or any of the other of the well-known brands, but if you are willing to accept the quirkiness of staying in a slice of British history, then I can wholly recommend staying here. I will be back.

dpl343677, General Manager at Best Western The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Your comments and praises are highly appreciated and will certainly motivate our few staff. Apologies for the absence at times, we are trying our best with limited staff and hopefully this will shortly be in the past. We look forward to your next visit. Great bike!

"Not bad at all and rural, but close to motorway."

Harry B, Brighton 26/08/2017

Arrived late, excellent service, they opened the bar. Good private accommodation and very quiet. Decent breakfast and nice surroundings - felt much better than the standard motorway service area hotels. A useful staging post for us on trips North. Car park on opposite side of the road is a bit dark but no problems and we had to leave a few boxes in the car, so good news. Close to Silverstone and Duncan Hamilton (50's Jaguar race driver) frequented the bar so I enjoyed that! Bed had sagged a bit .

dpl343677, General Manager at Best Western The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review
We enjoyed your company. Will definitely look at the bed problem. Many thanks for your visit.

"Totally depressing from management down"

L9069OUpauld, United Kingdom 14/08/2017

From the minute we arrived the staff were miserable and often didn't listen to what you say, The room whilst clean was not properly maintained with ceiling lights falling through the ceiling and bulbs not working in other lights. The hotel looks dated, which is a shame as it could be really good. They say a business is a reflection of the owners and management. They need to look at this before it gets worse

dpl343677, General Manager at Best Western The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Although our hotel is dated, the hotel has a proud tradition of providing above par service and guest satisfaction. Constructive critisim is always welcome. Unfortunately, yourself, not having spent much time with our staff, (no dinner or breakfast), you were able to make astonishing observations which even seasoned staff found astonishing. We are in the process of doing various refurbishments which will compliment the Jersey Arms and provide an even better service to our existing loyal guests, who in turn have given us very good reviews and continue to do so.

"Lovely old pub - much better than expected!"

MuddyMiles, Siem Reap, Cambodia 26/07/2017

This was the only room we could find available in a 15 mile radius so to be honest, I wasn't expecting much... But I was pleasantly surprised! Lovely old building with lots of history and quirks. Plentiful parking over the road. The room was a bit tired, but very clean and had everything we needed. Unusually someone's actually thought about what guests want! Comfy bed, windows that actually open, spacious bathroom and good, powerful shower (with complimentary toiletries etc). We slept well and had a good breakfast the next morning - well cooked and with quality ingredients. Very friendly staff. Only issues? I'd prefer a good selection of fresh fruit at breakfast (only tinned available) and the wifi was rubbish. But this is the countryside, so if you want all mod cons you should probably choose a boring, city based location. I'd stay here again happily.

Thank you for your kind comments. Apologies for the Wifi, hope to have an improvement very soon.

"Quirky Hotel"

Jo K, Worcester, United Kingdom 23/07/2017

Stayed over on a Saturday night while going to battle prom night at blenheim palace. It's a centuries old hotel with, shall we say, quirky features and layout. Carpets and curtains tired. Bathroom nice and comfy bed. Lack of towels but we managed and not worth asking for more. Wifi patchy. We stayed in room 5. Car parking free over the other side of the road.

"Conflicted review"

Ceri g, Swansea, United Kingdom 25/05/2017

I stayed here last week with work. It's been difficult to write a review as there were more positives than negatives, but the negatives were major. Positives. Easy to find, plenty of parking, friendly staff, nice dinner, easy check in and check out, clean room, comfortable bed, good sleep But, negatives. Wifi was more kiss than hit for most of the night, I had zero phone signal and no signal at all on the to so spent a couple of hours looking out of the window. Would I stay there again? Umm, I don't think so due to the negative elements.

dpl343677, General Manager at Best Western The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you your comments. I do apologize for the WiFi signal. We are in the process of upgrading the entire network system which will in future address the WiFi problem. However, not all area's in the hotel are restricted, as most room have access to WiFi.

Well yes it's a bit tired around the edges but the executive suite is amazing value for money - a large sitting room with a staircase onto a landing with a large bathroom and bedroom with four poster Spend the extra £20 and book this room - value for money is amazing - clean tidy Yes road close but slept well Lighting very dim due to low energy bulbs but I have spent double or treble this for a lot worse No mobile signal in room with O2 due to very old buildings !

"Rooms small and in need of update"

Bigtonybeds, Bedfordshire, United Kingdom 17/05/2017

Hotel is small, staff limited and at night can be difficult to get service at bar. Restaurant appears costly, though we chose not to utilize. If it need of a simple bed, clean room and no special needs this will do. Otherwise I suggest you look elsewhere.

dpl343677, General Manager at Best Western The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review
We are somewhat limited with staff, however you should not have been made to wait at the bar. We try to keep our restaurant prices inline with the market and I am sure by comparison you will find we have good value for money.

"Quaint but outdated"

raymondoWales, Wales 17/05/2017

Friendly enough place, the Hotel is some 800 years old and when walking around doors and floors are wonky but add I suppose to the charm. I satyed there recently, and was in room 3 ........ nice enough clean etc. but right over themain road, which became noisy early in the morning as it sits directly on a busy crossroads and traffic lights. Bathroom shower is a bit pointless unless you are 5ft 2" or under as the ceilings are low. my 7am early morning call arrived at 07.20am, but it did not matter as I had been awake since 4am with the traffic. The tv picture was poor and pixelating but I did have my tablet and wi-fi. Would i stay again, unlikely if I was at the fron of the building.

dpl343677, General Manager at Best Western The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your positive comments. My apologies for the late wake up call and I will have the TV signal checked. We have a limited number of rooms that are not so prone to traffic noise and we would certainly have one made available on your next visit. Unfortunately, the low ceilings are part and parcel of the hotel.

"Great tea/coffe tray, shame about restaurant"

Jenny T, Basildon, United Kingdom 26/04/2017

Stay one night for work, the reception is not easily located, but booked in fine, room was clean and cool which i liked, but they had all basis covered, an extra heater and a fan. I loved the olde world ambience of this 800 year old inn, wonky walls and floors are a pleasure and the decor did not detract from it, quite basic decor, old tv and alarm clocked that hummed so i unplugged it. The restaurant was a big let down , so much potential for a lovely gastro pub but what you get is dated pub food, adequately cooked, the steak was actually good but accompanied by frozen beefsteak chips, very dissappointing and the stcky toffee pudding was actually a steamed sponge, and no custard! The staff were fine though one struggled to understand spoken English, which is hard when you just want some English mustard. After a good night sleep, the cooked breakfast was good though no mushrooms and the toast was not freshly cooked. I would stay here again but would not eat dinner in the restaurant or drink in the extortionate bar, £6.10 for Smirnoff vodka and tonic with no lemon is rather steep in what is really a pub with room.

dpl343677, General Manager at Best Western The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your remarks. You comments will be given serious attention, we always strive to improve our service.

"Good all around. Very happy break."

Nick R, Dunstable, United Kingdom 18/04/2017

A warm, friendly establishment. We were made to feel immediately welcome. The lady who manages the bar and front desk is also the waitress at times and was very pleasant and kind. The room was tidy and clean. Our room could have done with an update on furniture and radiator maybe. The bathroom was very smart and classically styled. Bed was very comfortable indeed. The bar closes around 10, so no racket when trying to sleep. Hotel was all very quiet as well as surroundings.

"Adequate, convenient but not memorable"

Rosalynde J, Llanfairfechan, United Kingdom 17/04/2017

Handy and easy to find from M40 for a one night stopover en route to our final destination. We would return but this would not be our first choice. For a weekend away visiting family the journey is part of the break, and the one night stopover part of the experience. For the price I would expect more.

Very quaint and old pub converted into a hotel. Manager greeted us warmly. Large room, very clean with all facilities. Had a great evening meal and excellent beer. Quiet village but good for a stopping point. Would come again.

Not to be recomended. Gammon steak eggs and chips. Gammon tough chips a dark brown eggs O.K. No dessert offered although on the menu. Will not return for a long time. If ever. We thought we would try it before my wife goes into hospital for surgery

Pleasant Base for visiting Oxford answer surrounding areas, rooms clean enough, staff pleasant, management however to work on there approach to customers !! Avoid breakfast as they have no chef, there is hungry horse, tesco or bicester town centre 3miles away, as the saying goes you get what you pay for this is a 2 star guest house don't expect anything more and you'll have a pleasant stay.

Dear Tracy G, At the Best Western Jersey Arms Hotel, we have to comply, not only to the Best Western Brand requirements, also to our own set standards to ensure the guests receive the best possible service and value for money. We provide an extensive buffet, fruit, yoghurts, muffins, fresh fruit and choice of fruit juices, with a variety of cereals to choose from. In addition to the buffet we also offer an Oxfordshire breakfast ( 2 fried eggs, bacon, sausage, grilled tomato and baked beans), with toast, tea or coffee. I do again apologize if you found this not to your satisfaction.

This 800 year establishment is located in the the picturesque village of Middleton Stoney. I had been interested in reading this village is also mentioned in the Dooms Day book. A vast amount of history, and the hotel and additional facilities are welcoming. The rooms are clean and well maintained. The food had been to a very high standard, and the owners and staff are very friendly. I am thankful to all I met, and shall be back to stay again.

Beer bad dinner bad breakfast bad and room bad.... staff not to bad ... beer flat and very little choice with 3 draught beer choices .. the flowers beer was flat .. changed for something slightly better .. chicken dinner , chef should call it a day, chicken was tough which complimented the flat beer ... breakfast was sent back as they didn't defrosts the sausages so the beans were just as bad ... the room or hotel is on a junction or cross roads with two busy roads so I could count the cars passing til about 4 in the morning .. never go back ever

dpl343677, Owner at BEST WESTERN The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review
WoW Jim, I guess you didn't enjoy your stay last Wednesday night. I was working last Wednesday night, and I changed your "Flat" beer for a becks. I think the flat beer was caused by a "Greasy lip" as there was no head on it, I did pull another glass of flowers which was ok and we didn't have any other problems with that barrel. You didn't complain to me or any other of the staff about the chicken you had for dinner and you were sat about 1 metre from me in the bar on your computer. I am not sure about "frozen" sausages, as all of ours are bought in fresh from our butcher, and we serve dozens every day, in the 30 years of owning the Jersey Arms I have never bought a frozen sausage ever. The chef cooked 13 Hot breakfasts that morning and yours was the only one returned. Maria who was on the breakfast service that morning has never had a breakfast sent back in the time she has worked at The Jersey Arms. Sorry you didn't enjoy your stay. Donald

"pleasant weekend"

johnlatter333, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom 23/10/2016

My wife and I have just had two days at The Jersey Arms. We used it because it was a short drive to Bicester Village, and only 10 minute drive to the park and ride for Oxford, Which the owners wife advised us to use. We had dinner on the Friday night, which very well cooked, the two German girls were very chatty. Good breakfast, better presented that the one the food critic had at the Randolph Hotel in Oxford last week judging by the pics. Our room was very clean. Its an old building which is very quirky, which we found to be very comfortable.

"Poor Best western"

wonderfree41, Stowmarket, United Kingdom 22/10/2016

A 13th century building, not much to look at from the outside but has some interesting history. On arrival had to wait to be acknowledged. We were directed to our room which cost us a little more due to having a larger bed!. It was located in the annex, and was a large room. It was cold as the radiators were only mildly warm, and the wall thermostat did not work, however there was a small electric radiator, but did not make a lot of difference to the overall room temperature. The bedroom was clean and well decorated. The concern I had was that there was a deep step going across the full length of the room causing it to be at a split level, and in my view not wheelchair or disabled person friendly. The room was beside a busy room and although double glazed you could hear the traffic loudly especially as close to traffic lights at a busy junction. The evening meal was ok, breakfast very basic, had to order cooked breakfast and then told ‘sorry no sausages'!. They cannot supply decaffeinated tea, the waitress staff not very attentive, had to ask twice for cups and saucers at the breakfast table. Meal and breakfast (Continental £9.95, full English £13.75)overpriced. Bedroom in its location also overpriced. No other facilities you come to expect with BW hotels and not our best experience. An interesting visit but will not be returning.

dpl343677, Owner at BEST WESTERN The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Good afternoon Michael, I am sorry you found our facilities limited compared to other BW properties, but we don't profess to have golf courses, spar or pool etc as some do. The reason the vast majority of our guests stay, is for the FANTACTIC location of the Jersey Arms The room you had is not disabled friendly, and we were not aware that you required one, or we would have changed it to one more suitable had we known. The chef did tell me he ran out of sausages late one morning, but added extra bacon to make up for it. The breakfast prices on the menu are for non residents, if you check your invoice you will see that you and your wife were charged £9.95 each for the Full English breakfast every morning. Decaffeinated tea is available in the Twinning Tea Box on the buffet table. Every negative guest comment is logged in the Day Book by the staff, all are investigated and actioned within 24 hours or sooner. We have gone through the day book one week before your stay and one week after, and we and cannot find any guest comments regarding the heating. Donald

"Worst Western ever!"

Jeff N, Swindon, England, United Kingdom 14/10/2016

Staff unfriendly, food appalling, towels dirty! Do not book to stay here!!! The first impression of the good was ok, but this is a lovely setting spoilt by tatty decorations and neglect. I was given a suite with a ground floor sitting room and a 4 poster bed. The light for the stairs only worked from the switch upstairs. The evening meal was very poor - I made the mistake of having duck, so though I'd play it safe with an ice cream desert, but apparently event that was beyond their capabilities - as the ice cream had obviously melted in parts and was re-frozen and the biscuit served with it seem to have been vulcanised! Getting up in the morning I decided to have a bath, but quickly changed my mind when I saw the state of the towels - dirty marks on both hand an bath towel. Breakfast was only mediocre but the worst aspect was the staff attitude when I tried to complain. To say they were unconcerned is an understatement. They actually couldn't have cared less.

dpl343677, Owner at BEST WESTERN The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Good morning Jeff, I have just read your "review" of my Jersey Arms. To say I disagree with every thing you write is an understatement. If you had marks on your towels, I am surprise you didn't bring this to our attention after you had freshen up after arriving or before you went down to dinner. Your room is 10 steps from reception, plus you could have phoned down to reception, as I know, had you told one of the staff they would have changed them immediately. The "unfriendly staff" tell me that they asked you during your meal if everything was OK and you yes, they even told me you ate everything and your plate was clear. So there wasn't a clue there that you were unhappy. In fact the only time you complained to anyone about anything was when you had to pay your bill at checkout. Maria tells me that there were 2 guests, one English & one German, waiting to checkout behind you, and they both commented after you left, that they thought you were a profession complainer. I couldn't possibly comment. Donald

If you want to step back in time to lousy, non existent service with no mod-cons, not even coffee/tea making facility in the room, never mind the laissez-faire attitude of the staff - go ahead check in, repent at leisure. Honestly I fail to understand how a Best Western hotel on the outskirts of Bicester which is now being developed and is easily reachable by train can fall to this standard, Get your act together or sell the property - it would make a great little boutique hotel.

Roy H, Bristol, United Kingdom 03/10/2016

The room was clean and comfortable. Comfortable kingsize bed. The evening meal was very disappointing. The breakfast was very good. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Mini bus pulled up outside our room (10) at 2.30 am. Lot of talking and engine running for half an hour. Maybe not hotel's fault but could have parked somewhere else.

"Business visit"

Mark C, Kinross, United Kingdom 15/09/2016

Management staff not very welcoming however bar/restaraut staff, who where of foreign nationality, very nice so maybe a lesson could be learnt. Local taxis driver advised me that the hotel is avaioded by most locals as the managment have driven them all away due to their attitude etc. Overpriced on all items especially the drinks and food is not freshly cooked unless you count microwaving. Rooms quirky and not worth the cost, I'm only 5ft10" and the botton of the top frame came to the bridge of my nose so had to stoop to get into the room. Facilities ok good pressured shower but very noisey.

, Owner at BEST WESTERN The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review
I am sorry that you found the door to your room a little low, but as the Jersey Arms is nearly 800 years old, the people at the time it was built were a little smaller hence they fitted through the doors. The only items off our menu which we do not make here are the bread and ice-cream, only because someone can do that better that us. However I hope you enjoyed the fish cake starter you had for your dinner. Having lived in Oxfordshire for 40 years, whenever my wife and I go out, I do notice prices and to be honest, ours are about the same if not more affordable that others. I would very much doubt if my wife would have ordered you to stand in front of her at the reception, I would guess she asked you to come round to the reception and to fill in the reception arrival form. then she would have advised you how to get to your room after the reception closed at night in case you went out and returned late, using the courtyard door and accessing the stairs to your room. Stayed in room 12. Heavy smell of mothballs on arrival. Room clean and basic facilities nothing special. Bathroom tired and repairs needed to bath end. Bed was King size and comfortable. Service stopped at 10pm so when we rolled home at 10.05pm we were not to be able to get a drink at bar. We paid 99 pounds but breakfast not included....this was an extra 9 pound each. We declined !! Went to Bicester and enjoyed morning breakfast in the square for total of 8 pounds

Nice hotel close to M40 and Oxford, clean rooms with appliances, restaurant serves very good homely food and bar very accommodating. I stayed in rooms to rear across a yard which was very quiet and the bed was very comfy. Not sure as I would want to stay longer than a few days as nothing else within walking distance

"Not Great"

186336John_D, Lincoln, United Kingdom 11/08/2016

Down for a business meeting so decided to stop here as it was near to the meeting and Best Western hotels are usually pretty good. This wasn't good at all. Check in was very good, lovely young lady sorted everything out quite quickly. Was put in Room 1 which was near the road but seemed ok for one night. it wasn't until later that the problems started. Went out to eat and on arriving back went to the bar to get a drink. Only to be told by the member of staff behind the bar that she couldn't serve me as she was new and didn't know what to do. eventually after about 10 minutes waiting she went to get a member of staff that could help. Returned to my room and noticed that it appeared that the light through the window was as bright as the sun earlier that day. Turns out they have bright up lighters outside the hotel. Not the best idea when you are trying to sleep and even with the curtains shut it makes little difference. Another thing was the bed. I am impressed that they could get a matrass with so many bumps in it. Obviously I have been to the wrong places in the past as even for me this was new. The pillows were as bad. Also it would be nice if the cleaners would check the bin in the bathroom. Mine was full of rubbish which at best is sloppy. The other thing that really got to me was when I wanted to nip out about 10.30pm. I went out my room to find everywhere was pitch black. The staff had turned everything off in the bar and reception area and it was very interesting trying to find my way round in the dark. This was even more annoying considering the light coming from outside, in my room, was like daylight. Next morning went down for breakfast to be greeted by the lovely young lady who checked me in. she was again very helpful and I would say the breakfast was excellent. Only annoying thing was when I went to check out. I booked the room as a single occupancy but the automatic billing system tried to charge me for 2 breakfasts. Again the young lady on reception sorted everything out. Not really sure what to say about this hotel. I would definitely refuse a room near the front of the hotel if a stayed again. I would also talk to the evening staff about what should and shouldn't be done before they pack up and go. And finally I would like to recommend the lovely German Girl who works in the day. She is a credit to the hotel and only wish I could remember her name

"Friendly staff"

User 08/08/2016

Stayed overnight, couldn't fault it apart from the road noise, this could be cured by double glazing but I've a feeling that the building is probably listed. The girls on duty were really friendly and a pleasure to deal with. Nice food also! All in all I would recommend a stay here as it's fairly central for Oxford, Blenheim Palace, Silverstone, and lastly Bicester Village (if going to The Village have a word with your bank manager first though??).

"Historic Oxfordshire Inn"

Marco77Traveller, Lichfield, United Kingdom 05/08/2016

Ideal location as we were attending a local event the following day. Historic building, comfortable room, bit of noise from room above, expected in an old building. Dinner was good, if a bit overpriced, breakfast very good, nice spread of cereals etc to start and hot dish cooked to order, best bacon I've had for ages, very good breakfast service. Sited at junction of two busy roads so expect some traffic noise if windows open on to the road, although it didn't affect our ground floor room. Small and homely Inn, not the usual Best Western type of hotel.

"Bring your own prawns"

craighancox, Hinckley, United Kingdom 21/07/2016

Having now stayed twice through work I hope never to go back, dirty rooms, dirty cutlery, dirty plates, glasses and cups, unable to get an early breakfast, ran out of draught lager, no traditional hand pulled beers with a written apology on the bar, room very noisy and hot due to the radiators being on all night and to top it all off they run out of prawns by Wednesday so no prawn salad, no hot spicy king prawns, no spicy prawn spaghetti, ran out of steak and kidney pud from what is not a big menu etc, etc

"Convenient but noisy"

robinpercy, Ipswich, United Kingdom 20/07/2016

More a pub with rooms than a 'proper' hotel. Being on the front of the hotel it was very noisy from the traffic speeding past. As it was very warm I had to have the windows open as there is no air conditioning so I had to put up with the noise from outside. The food was good but the choice fairly limited. I didn't have breakfast as it doesn't start until 7.30 and I had to be away before 7.00 The shower was a bit pathetic. It took ages to run warm and only produced a drizzle. The internal walls are fairly thin so I could clearly hear the neighbours TV when I was trying to get to sleep.

"Charm, character, warmth and tranquility."

mapHongKong, Hong Kong 13/07/2016

The background to my stay a couple of nights ago was a long, wet, dreary drive from the north of England to catch a morning flight from Heathrow Airport to the Far East the following morning. Having experienced enough zombie-like airport hotels to last several lifetimes, these days I look to overnight somewhere just off motorways, yet readily accessible to the relevant airport, hopefully with charm, character, warmth and personality. My first stay at The Jersey Arms provided all of the above. It will not be my last.

"An excellent stay"

Lucy W, Oxford, United Kingdom 26/05/2016

I booked this hotel as a place to stay after a shopping trip with friends to Bicester Village. What a charming hotel it is- full of character and very welcoming! We chose to have dinner on arrival, the menu choices were excellent and reasonably priced. I chose the curry which was delicious. Our rooms were spacious and clean and didn't lose the character an old hotel should have. We had a brilliant nights sleep in comfortable beds with quiet surroundings. In the morning there was a good choice of breakfast which we enjoyed with cups of tea and orange juice. Myself and friends thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Jersey Arms and will be back after our next shopping trip!

"Great hotel/location "

User 25/05/2016

I have been going to The Jersey Arms Hotel for a number of years. I have to say this hotel has been consistently brilliant every time I have stayed here. The service is top notch, along with great food. I definitely recommend the curry; it was beautifully cooked. The hotel is full of character, and it is clear to see that the owners are proud of what they have. The location is superb! The hotel is situated 5 mins from Bicester Village, and only an hour away from London. Whenever I am in the area, I would choose this hotel over a travelodge or a Premier Inn. I have read previous reviews where the hotel should be modernised. However, by modernising this hotel, you would lose its charm and character. Those reviews add no value and by the sound of things have a chip on their shoulder. Good work, and I will see you again The Jersey Arms!

"Jersey Arms not as I expected"

Nigel T, Farnham, United Kingdom 23/05/2016

As a group of 4 we had 2 suites, both lovely. We had dinner, which was served by friendly waitresses, and we all really enjoyed our choices. Breakfast was part self service and part served, which was very good. We had a drink and sandwich in the bar when we arrived, at lunch time, all of which were as you would expect. I have read the previous reviews, about the quietness - just what we wanted, and expected from a 2 star pub. We had personal friendly service. The restaurant was olde worlde, with oak panels - lovely atmosphere.

"Great place for an overnight stay"

shaunredman, Leeds, United Kingdom 18/05/2016

A clean and friendly country inn / hotel, with a great restaurant, some rooms do suffer with raod noise, dueto being on a traffic lights junction. Nice courtyard garden with tables and chairs when the weather is nice. Personally I like the fact the whole hotel is completely no smoking but realise that might not suit everyone. The rooms are in general large with seperate en -suite and well appointed. My room was on the cool side but the electric heater soon sorted that. Dinner was really nice, I had the salmon and coriander fishcakes which was delicious, but I didn't have room for anything else. Breakfast this morning was freshly cooked and set me up for the day

"Not what I would expect from Best Western"

User 11/05/2016

I stayed at the hotel 1 night. When I arrived, I specifically asked at reception if my travel agency booking included breakfast and was told it did. However, the next morning on leaving I was told that it did not because the printout said so. When I pointed out to the lady that I had been given two different messages, she was inflexible. It left a feeling of the right arm doesn't know what the left arm was doing. I also took a bath in my room only to discover that there was no towel in the bedroom after I was in the bath. The bath was fine but it's condition was poor - it looked like someone had broken it. An unpleasant experience overall for the price point.

"A poor experience"

Michael0nh0liday, Chatton, United Kingdom 03/04/2016

I walked into the open hotel bar early on a Sunday evening and it was empty without much evidence of any activity. Eventually a bar-attendant arrived and I asked what beers were on draught? She went to consult her Manager and came back to say they were serving "only hotel guests" on Sunday evenings. There were no guests evident except myself (decently dressed) and no notice of the Sunday policy. This was my third "incognito" visit over two years and the welcome has always been a poor one. The place really does not deserve to succeed in my experience and to achieve the required improvement I recommend you to give it a miss. WB

Why on earth would you visit us "incognito" over the last two years, and then tell a member of my staff I will write a review on trip advisor "because its my job" As far as I am aware we are not under investigation by MI5 or special branch, but just maybe, you know more than we do. Donald

"The Marie Solest"

User 15/03/2016

I arrived at the hotel, there was no one at the reception, I had to wait 5 minutes. I then went to the restaurant it was empty but there was no one around. Eventually I was asked where I would like to sit, the table was partially laid with some odd cutlery from the previous occupants, the server said that she would relay the table, what she meant was that she would give me a knife, fork and spoon but the rest of the disarray on the table would remain. I had what was perhaps and possibly the worst chicken Caesar salad I have ever had in my life!

dpl343677, Manager at BEST WESTERN The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review
"The Marie Solest" was full on Tuesday night and we had been quite busy in the bar & restaurant before you came down at 20.14. I asked you, where you wanted to sit as most of the tables had been used and you choose your table and you appeared to be unperturbed about the fact that I would have to relay your table setting. during your meal you were asked if everything was OK and we had no negative replies from you. You asked for the bill to be charged to your room, and you went off to bed, and as they say "that was that" I have never known Tripadvisor solved any problems, That can only be done by the people in front of you.

"Pricey But Comfortable"

UK_AndyL_S, London, United Kingdom 04/01/2016

We had a christening to go to on the weekend we stayed and it was the only hotel with a room available. After reading the reviews across several sites, I did think that I'd made a mistake by booking into this hotel.Thankfully all fears were brushed away when we checked in. The staff member that checked us in was pleasant (she's French, not sure about the other reviewers commenting on Eastern Europeans). The room was a large size as was the bed, which was also very comfortable. The fan in the bathroom was very noisy and very annoying. Admittedly, we didn't use any of the facilities (Bar etc) to comment on. My only complaint about the Jersey Arms was the price I paid for the room. I'd expect to pay £45-60, not the £89, which didn't even include breakfast! If I was staying in Biscester again, I'd seriously consider staying at the Jersey Arms again.

"A pleasant stay"

Paul L, Oxford, England, United Kingdom 04/01/2016

My wife and I stayed here for New Year as we were attending a party in the village. The hotel was very quiet - I think there were only 2 or 3 rooms occupied - but the staff were very friendly and served us a superb cooked breakfast in the morning. The room was fine - not the poshest of places but it was good value for the price and had everything that we needed. Will definitely use again when staying over with our friends.

"Winning the battle - a venerable old inn v modern expectations."

426raymond, Burnham Market, United Kingdom 31/12/2015

Donald and Helen Livingston have owned this ancient inn for 30 years. Situated a few miles north of Oxford it does not lack competition so it must combine its ancient charm with modern facilities. That difficult task has been well progressed. It has operated under the banner of Best Western for the last 8 years but it has retained its family ownership and style. The beds are comfortable and the bathrooms well appointed. The food is average and the staff delightful. One really wants this David to succeed in the face of more soulless Goliaths.

"Best Western The Jersey Arms Hotel, Oxford"

800 year hotel with character only minutes from Oxford. A very picturesque place to stay in the heart of the English countryside. I would recommend this to anyone but you would need to have a car to access Oxford, Bicester, Warwick or Sratford

"Very friendly service, Everything we needed for our short visit"

November S, Derby, United Kingdom 16/11/2015

Stayed here overnight on my husbands birthday to coincide with a visit to Bicester Village, it's a lovely quaint hotel & we received a very warm welcome on checking in. The manager was very helpful & kindly ordered us a taxi on request, whilst waiting we had a nice drink in the bar, again the service was great. We didn't eat here as we had our day & evening planned already but next time we will, we planned to have a drink in the bar upon our return but we were too tired but the atmosphere seemed very good in the bar when we passed through. The rooms were clean, had everything we needed & the bed comfy, no complaints atall, breakfast was very well cooked & plentiful & I loved the traditional decor in the breakfast room. We were both very happy & will return

"Very English countryside - circa 1950!"

Roland D, London, United Kingdom 08/11/2015

This hotel is a 15 minute taxi ride from Bicester North station, but way in the middle of the countryside, so not walkable if you want to visit the retail village. It is also a country pub although, rather oddly, there was no one drinking in the bar apart from hotel guests on the night that I stayed. The rate via a work's agency was £104 for bed and breakfast. I was up-graded to a suite. I am not sure why. Perhaps it was the last room available. It was OK but all very dated. They could film an episode of Miss Marple and not have to change a thing! Even the sofa must be from the 1950s, as the springs had definitely sprung. There was a TV in the sitting room but none in the bedroom, annoyingly. Although there was a bedside radio. There was an iron in the wardrobe, but no ironing board, oddly. The desk light also didn't work. There were tea and coffee making facilities, with biscuits. The toiletries in the bathroom were attached to the wall. The suite was clean. Dinner was reasonable, which is a blessing as I am not sure what else is in the area. But I ordered a double whisky to round off my meal and it cost £11.40! Breakfast was good.

dpl343677, Owner at BEST WESTERN The Jersey Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Hi I could not resist replying to you. You did make me smile when you mentioned "Miss Marples" The cast of Miss Marples did stay at The Jersey Arms some years ago for about 2 weeks, when they were filming an episode in Woodstock. In fact, "Miss Marples" had her party & dinner here to celebrate her birthday. I am sorry to say we were not considered for the location, I simply could not believe it! You ordered a double 14 year old Oban Malt whisky after dinner, we do have other blends and malts available. Best Regards Donald

"Not a bad spot"

toyotaverso, North York Moors National Park, United Kingdom 03/11/2015

located near to M40 the hotel is well situated. The room was clean and tidy and large enough. I dined in the restaurant, certainly not gourmet food but what I had was fine, well presented and served nicely by the bar/restaurant staff. Breakfast was ok, a limited selection but what i had was good, the dining room for breakfast was also nice, it felt quite old woldy. parking was available directly across the road from the hotel, all in all not a bad spot. My only criticism was the "welcome", I felt the lady on reception couldn't really care less if I was a guest or not. I then had the pleasure of dealing with her over the phone about a query I had once I had left the hotel and to be absolutely honest found her to be off hand and quite arrogant

"A hotel with some character, not a bland boring chain hotel!"

Wendyonthesouthcoast, Gosport, United Kingdom 20/10/2015

I was aware of negative reviews before I booked to stay here but learnt long ago to have an open mind & see how things are for myself. As far as someone's review concerning weak tea, well on the breakfast table there is a box of different teas (including fruit ones) so why didn't they pop another tea bag in the pot! So to my stay. We firstly missed the car park opposite the hotel and it's clearly sign posted and big! The front door to the hotel was open but most of the time we used the back door through the courtyard, reception is situated towards the back someone will hear you enter & shout hello! We were in room 5 over the courtyard and had no problem with traffic noise, if you stay at the week end I don't really think it will be a problem. Our room was very 'quirky', when you opened your door there were few steps leading up into a large room and we had a king sized bed. We had a fan for if you are hot & a heater so if the 2 radiators are not enough you can put this on (which we did) and it was snug and warm. We then had a few steps down into the bathroom. Tea & coffee making facilities and biscuits were in the corner of our room and the free wifi was fine throughout the hotel. We had breakfast & evening meal, not a large menu in the evening but the choice was more than adequate for a week end stay and my husband would also mention that the steak & kidney pudding was very good. Breakfast, help yourself to cereal, juice & fruit, English breakfast (£13.95) came plated (2 eggs, sausage, bacon, beans & tomato) and we had 2 slices of toast each in our own little racks. The two young lady waitresses were very friendly and we had no trouble whatsoever with language problems, you can also point and the word Merlot is the same in any language! I have stayed in 12 different hotels this year (for leisure) and it was very nice to stay in one which is an 'individual', each room is different, the bar & restaurants have character with beams and solid wood floors it's not bland & boring and exactly the same as other hotels in its chain. My husband goes away on business a lot & often picks a Best Western as he can't face weeks of hotels & rooms that tend to all look the same. OK it's not perfect, if go looking for faults you will always find something but we had an enjoyable week end. It's ideal for the park & ride at Pear Tree Oxford and we also walked to the church in Middleton Park which has the oldest door I have ever seen.

"Country English Aura"

Delightful stay The moment I set eyes on it I loved it already. It is small but charming in all its olde English quiantness. There is a fireplace in the sitting room and dining room which comprises a dining table and sofas by the fireplace. The bedroom is small but comfortable and looks out into other little cottages in the village. The garden is placed with many wrought iron chairs and tables where you can enjoy the sun and bask in the village atmosphere. So near to Bicester shopping outlet which is just 5 minutes away.

"Very pleasantly surprised"

I arrived at this hotel last night and having read recent reviews I was somewhat apprehensive. How wrong I was. I arrived late and was greeted at reception by one of the owners. The check in process was swift and efficient I informed the owner that a colleague would be arriving late and the owner made special arrangements to ensure my colleague could check in and promised he would wait up to ensure my colleague was checked in. He did this despite my colleague not arriving until gone midnight. I was directed to my room which was in one of the buildings in the courtyard. The room was clean and tidy and well appointed. I was particularly impressed with the power shower So many hotels have low water pressure and all you get from the shower is a dribble. No such issues with this hotel. Breakfast was served in the restaurant. The service was excellent as was the food. I chose to eat in the hotel in the evening. The restaurant menu was extensive and reasonably priced. I ordered garlic mushrooms and the chef was not afraid to use garlic The result was excellent. The main course I chose was a steak and kidney pudding served with vegetables and saute potatoes. The pudding was a delight. Tender steak and kidney in a really good suet pastry pudding with fresh vegetables and gravy. I have a very healthy appetite but could not manage dessert. The service was friendly and attentive. I would recommend this hotel and would question previous reviewers motive for the poor reviews they submitted

"Dirty, dated , and dis-organised."

Big mistake not reading the reviews before booking, this is a place NOT to stay. The staff, struggled to understand English , and they had no apparent support from the owners. The rooms were tatty and un-loved, with all the features of a 1970s B&b. Breakfast in the uninspiring surroundings of the dining room was ordinary. We kept asking for more and stronger tea, and we were never asked if we were happy or not. All in all, it looked and smelt like a place where the owners had long since given up, apart from taking your money that is. Find a Premier Inn and keep driving when you see the sign for the Jersey Arms.

Zoe J, this is getting very sad. You really must get out more. How many reviews are you and your friends (milsub59) going to write about your stay here This is the 2nd one so it really is not a new review. see Filthy Hovel" You can write as many as you like, but my response to your first one still stands. However if no one has read it please see below. This once again this is a perfect example of sad people given access to a platform to air their libellous views about a perfectly run successful business If this does continue I shall have to take further action. "Totally lacking in charm"

We booked our wedding guests into this hotel and we all visited the bar after our reception. The staff were so rude to our guests during the whole of the evening. We were told that the rooms were not paid for even though we paid for them previously, the member of staff was argumentative and asked us to prove we had paid, we had left the receipt at home as it is not something you would normally carry with you to a wedding. The manager of the hotel has an extremely bad and non customer friendly attitude and this is reflected by the staff response to customers. Only stay here if you cannot find anywhere else for miles and miles. Quite shocking service, the manager is working in the wrong industry and if I treated my customers in the same way I would be out of business very soon. The Jersey Arms ( Faulty Towers) was the only blight on our wonderful wedding day.

We had ABSOLUTLEY NO IDEA that we were to play a part of this wedding reception. Out of a full hotel, FOUR people had individually booked rooms for the night as they were attending a wedding reception at a restaurant in the village. Asked could they come back and have a drink afterwards. not a problem. At 4.45pm the whole wedding group about 20-25 people descended on us all wanting drinks, We have ONE person on duty in the afternoon. OVERWELMED yes. rude NO. I worked that night and the picture you painted is absolutely UNTRUE. EVERY one was in good spirits and all I saw were smiling faces. I spoke to 3 of your departing wedding guests after breakfast the next day who thanked me, and told me what a wonderful time they had at the Jersey Arms. What does surprise me, is why YOU did not just stay and finish your wedding day at the restaurant, instead of moving everyone 300 yards over to us.

"Flabbergasted at level of non existent Bon Homie"

Phil R, Milton Keynes, United Kingdom 05/09/2015

Attended a wedding party there and was told that a room which had been already paid for wasn't - but it had been two days previously. No apology given, not even a smile. Girl behind the bar barely understood plain English so ordering drinks was painful. If the landlord has been in the hospitality business for forty five years, he has either given up or has lost the will to be a hospitable landlord. You would think that with a group of twenty plus people spending money across the bar would warrant some kind of warmth but none was forthcoming. In fact, at ten o'clock they announced the bar was closing...!! I run my own business and I believe in giving customer service so when I don't get it I really do feel aggrieved. I certainly won't ever be going back this unfriendly place ever again thankfully. AVOID........!!!!!!!

As for creating Bonne Homie, These are the comments posted yesterday from a French Journalist who was in the Jersey Arms the same night as yourselves. "Amabilité du personnel, gentillesse du patron, un vrai moment de détente dans la campagne anglaise.” Otherwise my comments are the same as to another member of your party We had ABSOLUTLEY NO IDEA that we were to play a part of this wedding reception. "Good Accommodation, Poor Food"

User 02/09/2015

Characterful old building, proprietor very friendly and we were pleasantly surprised to have a suite. The food was disappointing, sliced bread for sandwiches, main course of ham salad contained only leaves and half a tomato (8;95) and fish pie was bland with no accompanying veg (10.95) . The waitress struggled to understand English. Great location for Bicester outlet and Silverstone. We would definitely stay again but eat elsewhere.
