"Very dated with poor customer service...."

06/11/2018

I stayed at this hotel whilst away with work! This is a very dated hotel! Rooms a very basic with a fusty smell! The beds are very hard and uncomfy! When down in the bar area wanting to be served there was never anyone to be seen! I had to take the trip back to the main reception desk to ask if anyone was serving on several occasions and still had to wait!! Food was average! Considering the staff are working within a hospitality environment they came across miserable and unwelcoming! Won't be staying here again!

Hicham B, General Manager at Best Western Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear squiresr22, Thank you for sharing your feedback. I am sorry your stay with us was not to your satisfaction. I have spoken to our head housekeeper and we do have an action plan to tackle some of the issues you have raised. In regards to the bar service I am sorry you had to come all the way to reception. We do have a phone at the bar to call reception if service is needed or when the bar is unmanned. I also spoke to our food and beverage manager and we will address the issues immediately. Thank you again for your review. Kind regards Hicham B.

"30 Birthday party "

I would like to say a Huge Thank you to Smokies for making our Daughters 30 Birthday very special. From booking the party to the event they could not do enough. We would live to praise them for their enthusiasm and efficiency. Special Thanks to Dawn on the bar and Tom reception. The rooms were all very clean and comfortable. Buffet was also good so much so we will be hosting another party there very soon. I have never before put a review on anywhere so it must have been special. Ellen & Paul party 27th October.

"Lovely Hotel"

14/10/2018

I had a 4 night stay attending a course just around the corner. The room was bright, clean and modern, with friendly staff. I really enjoyed my stay here. The breakfast was fabulous, with all of my favourites. The chef there really knows how to serve up a decent meal. It's a help yourself buffet style, and tastes delicious. Rooms, although relatively basic, (complete luxury compared with a travelodge), has FREE wifi, an ironing board, plenty of tea/coffee etc. Always with a complimentary biscuit and bottle of water. I would highly recommend this particular hotel in the Oldham area, and will definitely use this hotel again when business takes me north again. The only downside for me was, being an insulin dependent diabetic, there was nowhere to store my insulin, but I survived. Thanks for a great stay.

Hicham B, General Manager at Best Western Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear Mark D, Thank you for your review. I am pleased that you had a good stay with us while attending your course. I will pass on your feedback to the team as I know they will be proud. I am sorry we could not help with the Insulin storage. We look forward to welcoming you again . Kind regards Hicham B.

"1 Night Stay"

11/10/2018

I stayed here for one night before attending an event with my sister. The hotel and room were as expected for a Best Western. The room was slightly dated but it was only one night. We ate at the restaurant and the food was lovely and so tasty. We had the full 3 courses and we so full afterwards. I would recommend this hotel

Hicham B, General Manager at Best Western Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear Jo H, Thank you for taking the time to write your review. I am happy that you had an excellent experience while staying with us and that all aspects of your stay were to your satisfaction. I will make sure the team share your feedback. Your recommendation is much appreciated. Kind regards Hicham B.

"Wedding reception"

10/10/2018

We had our wedding reception here on September 1st and it was flawless ! Everyone commented how peaceful and laid back the whole thing was - Staff were all so helpful and friendly, they even helped sort extra table centrepieces when 4 of our own got destroyed .... really saved the day - thank you so much Sophie!!. The food was brilliant and the canapes were amazing especially the mini sausage mash and caramelized onion ones!!!! The bridal suite - which was a lovely complimentary gift from smokies - was nice and spacious and the Jacuzzi bath was heaven :). The breakfast was lovely too. Thanks so much Smokies for making our day even more perfect - we would definatley recommend Smokies to any one looking to get married.

"We stayed here the night before and the night of our wedding"

01/10/2018

I booked 2 rooms in this hotel in February. 1 night for myself and my bridesmaid who then stayed alone on the night of our wedding and a double room for me and my new husband on our wedding night. The receptionist was extremely helpful arranging for me to access the double room early so that I could move my luggage over given that standard check in was at 2pm and the wedding car was picking us up to go to our venue at 2pm. Breakfast on both days was lovely. We also had a few friends staying at the hotel with us and we met up on the first night in the bar and ate in the bar. Again the food was delicious and the service was excellent.I would not hesitate to stay here again and had I known that it was a wedding venue (there was another wedding at the hotel at the same time) I would have given serious consideration to booking the venue for my own wedding. I'm not going to get married again just to try it but this would be the perfect location for any large event and when

Hicham B, General Manager at Best Western Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear Louise H, Thank you for your review. Firstly thank you for choosing us to celebrate your special day. I am proud of the team for making your wedding more special and I will certainly share your feedback with them. Your recommendation means a lot to us and I hope we will see you here again in the near future. Thank you again for your comments. Kind regards Hicham B.

"Excellent"

19/09/2018

We stayed at this hotel recently and the reception staff were friendly and eager to help. The room was clean and tidy. They had housekeeping which was excellent if you wanted to go out and have a refreshed bed. There is a bar and restaurant on site which was resonably priced and had a calm atmosphere. The public transport was easy to get into Oldham and Manchester City Centre. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a resonably priced and has a calm atmosphere.

"Wedding Weekend"

5
18/09/2018

We stayed at Smokies from Friday to Sunday to Celebrate my Granddaughters Wedding. This hotel is excellent and the staff are very efficient in all aspects, nothing is too much trouble. As for the wedding which was planned by the wedding planner ...what can I say....it was unbelievable and truly amazing. Such efficiency ...everything ran smoothly from start to finish. The food and service was second to none . Well done to everyone involved in the big day it was a memorable occasion and I recommend Smokies to anyone who are thinking of holding their wedding there.

"Alright"

3
14/09/2018

This place was clean, and barely adequate, it appears to be primarily intended as venue for weddings and parties with on site accommodation for those unable to make thier way home afterwards. On the first night we stayed we were kept awake by revellers into the early hours, there are no public rooms other than a bar. The place was jaded at the edges. It might be ok for an overnight mid week stop.

"1 night"

12/09/2018

Me and my partner stayed for one night as a last minute get away, we went for a drink in the filament bar and severed by a gentleman who wasn't really the most welcoming. We then moved on into the resturant and was served by Amy, this girl made us feel welcome straight away and nothing was to much trouble, and I was nice to see a manager bringing out one of our course. The food in the restuarant was really good our only thing was the portion sizes are small for what you pay for. Breakfast was okay to, just a shame to only see one member of staff having to sort everything out. Thank you very much Amy for a lovely night spent in the resturant.

"Fantastic weekend"

Room 502. Saturday 1st September. Smokies is a 3 star rated hotel offering 4 star service. We booked one of their exectitive rooms. From our first call to Shannon on reception our trip was made as pleasureable as could possibly be. Tom who booked us in was cheerful, polite and very informative, giving is all the local infomation we needed for our visit. We asked room service for extra condiments tea/coffee ect which we received immediatly. We also asked for a late check out which again wasn't an issue. Our room was spotless, spacious with a amazingly comfortable bed. After an afternoon in Manchester we came back to an evening sat at the hotel bar. We were served and entertained by the bar supervisor Miguel What a pure gentlman, an evening of pure wit and humor which we both thourghly enjoyed. After an amazing nights sleep I had a brekky, served by the lovely Carol. We have had a chilled morning in our room and then made our way to the restaurant for the Sunday carvery which was delicous. 3 courses for only £11-95. It was cooked fresh and was fantastic value. The service we got off the restaurant staff Carolina & Gemma was second to none. Just like to mention Becky on the management team who sorted our original booking. This review may seem a bit to good to be true but credit where credits due we were well looked after, and I have no problem if we get bad service voicing my opinion on here. Thanks for a great weekend guys This is our second visit and we will be back.

"Our wedding day."

5
02/09/2018

We had our wedding day and evening reception at the hotel. The whole day was amazing . Sophie & Becky we're amazing from the day we booked we were in contact. Nothing was too much trouble for them and we did make a few late changes which were honoured . The staff were all great , the food was amazing and everybody enjoyed the whole day and night. The honeymoon suite was great too, very spacious and comfortable. Overall couldn't fault anything .

"Wonderful wedding"

26/08/2018

Our daughter recently had her wedding reception at the hotel. The organisation, attention to detail and the wonderful, hardworking staff made this day simply perfect for all our friends and family and made the bride's day extremely special. The food was delicious and the hospitality first class. The hotel accommodation was beautifully clean, comfortable and the breakfast was amazing and great value. We were all very impressed and all had a very special day with some precious memories so thank you to all the staff involved.

"Great Restaurant Staff!"

4
25/08/2018

I stayed here on the 25th August for one night as I was on a course. The room was great and suited my needs (They placed me on a quiet side of the hotel [as requested] as there was a large wedding on the other side). The room was nice although there was a stain on my bedding which was a little disheartening. Other than that everything was perfect. The food was great (thank you chefs!) However, the highlight of the night was the restaurant staff, in particular Carolina and the twins (who I unfortunately didn't manage to catch the names of). They were all lovely and gave me recommendations as to where I should spend my birthday, as well as provided great customer service generally (checked how my meal was/gave me a break between starter & main as I wanted to be able to fit it in) etc. Overall, three lovely girls - thank you for making my stay memorable :D ps. you need to make tipping by card available!

"Very good hotel. Nice staff and food tasty too"

I have stayed here loads as I always feel welcome and treated like an individual rather than just a source of money. I would highly recommend this as base for exploring the north west or just doing business.

"Another Two Week Stay At Smokies Park"

5
14/08/2018

We just spent two weeks at Smokies Park in July. This was our second visit for two weeks in 3 years. We have family and friends nearby so the location is ideal for our needs. This visit included the wedding of my wife's best friend's daughter held at the hotel and it was terrific. The hotel knows how to arrange a wedding and it was a big event done right. The staff are great and many of them remembered my wife and I from our previous visit. Job Well Done. We will be back. My only suggestion would be for the owners to update the furniture in the rooms and the restaurant as they are getting old and are showing there use.

"A Superb stay, Excellent service and breakfast"

5
14/08/2018

This is a modern hotel on the borders of Ashton-Under-Lyne and Oldham, but also quite handy for all the facilities that Manchester has to offer. There is a large car park, a smart reception area and extremely pleasant and helpful staff. I paid a small additional fee for an executive room which was very clean and had all the usual amenities one would expect from a four star hotel, a flat screen tv, coffee making facilities and most importantly, a really comfortable bed. Because Sunday nights are particularly quiet, it was necessary to use the telephone on the bar to obtain service, but the barman was pleasant, helpful and efficient in his quick response. Breakfast is a buffet-style breakfast with freshly cooked food that was continually re-stocked and very enjoyable. The receptionist was also very courteous and helpful on checking. All in all a really comfortable stay. Would I book again? Most definitely, especially compared with the many other hotels in the Manchester area.

"Bit Dated but adequate for needs"

3
13/08/2018

Stayed here twice in the last couple of months as convienient for area we needed to be in. I have also stayed here several years ago & was glad to see the hotel has been updated in last few years. Although quite tidy there is still some way to go in updating. Bathrooms & in particular showers are old & tired and in one room the shower lost all pressure when the shower was being used in the room next door. Biggest thing to watch at this hotel is the bar/function area is busy at the weekends and is very noisy for those rooms that look out onto the bar area opposite. Car parking is limited in particular when there is a function on and outside seating area was covered in empty bottles and fag ends the following morning. For a night or so stay its ok but do so during the week if you want a peaceful nights sleep and somewhere to park your car.

"Wedding Crompton Suite"

07/08/2018

Me and lee got married at smokies hotel Saturday the 4th of August everything was lovely the Crompton Suite was dressed beautifully and all the staff was so helpful the food was lovely all my guest said how nice it was and the bridal suite was very big clean and modern I would recommend smokies hotel for weddings

"Mums 70th family meal"

31/07/2018

25 family members seating in the carvery restaurant, children also.firstly the deal on at moment is children under age of 12 eat free ,we all decided on the 3 course carvery menu so salad bar first or soup then hot carvery followed by deserts .we all had a great visit food was fairly good the quantity of meat ration could be better when being served but other than that the food was fairly good we had plenty room for a large party staff were vert friendly and helpful .plenty good parking great toilet facilities there are wheel chair friendly facilities too.

"Amazing wedding"

20/07/2018

We last week held our daughters wedding at Smokies and I could not be more pleased. Sophie the wedding planner exceeded all my expectations, she was supportive in the build up, organised and very calm and more important for me delivered on the day thanks so much Sophie for all your hard work you were amazing The food was 5 star all the way sit down meals and buffet I did take the time out in the day to speak to the general manager to say how pleased I was with Sophie and how well she had everything planned even small details so I do hope that this was passed on Valued staff are happy staff that will remain and make your hotel even better and in my view Sophie should be a keeper for you Thanks also to all the staff who assisted us fabulous day and really good memories made for all who attended Thank you Beverley Hurst

We stayed overnight for a wedding which was also be held at the hotel . What a lovely time the room was lovely everything we needed including an iron and ironing board .All tea and coffee supplied and toiletries . The wedding venue was amazing the room was out of this world and the hot buffet was so lovely all food was very fresh and piping hot. We had excellent value you for money , we will certainly use the hotel again when visiting our friends .

01/07/2018

Another two night stay completed at this hotel. Great place to stay, friendly and helpful staff.busy hotel with lots going on , but very useful for us as it's close to our friends house, which means hardly any travelling once here.

"Food Disgusting "

1
26/06/2018

First time staying here and the bar food is utterly disgusting. I strongly recommend going elsewhere for dinner as this is that disappointing. Bedrooms are just ok. Service is quite good but based mainly on the food...NO.

"Brilliant"

5
23/06/2018

Me and my husband had our wedding breakfast and reception here and our experience was great from start to finish. Sophie our wedding organiser went above and beyond for us and was always supportive with everything along the way. The day went perfectly thanks to Sophie and our wedding day was just how we imagined it to be. There wasn't a single problem throughout the day. The food was great and the staff were lovely. All our guests commented on how great smokies was. Will definitely be coming back again and would reccommend to anyone!

"Very pleasant, large room"

4
20/06/2018

My husband and I stayed here for one night as we were going to see a music concert at the Etihad Stadium nearby (20 minute drive). I booked the hotel months prior to the stay on a pre-pay, non-cancellation rate and was very pleased with the price. I did talk to someone after I had booked who had stayed there before and didn't recommend it which gave me some concerns, however, I'm really pleased we didn't book somewhere else because the hotel was really lovely. The staff at reception were very friendly and welcoming and the room was very big and clean. It was a tad basic and the decor wasn't the nicest but it was clean and quiet which are much more important. We didn't use the bar or restaurant in the evening although we did have a look and they are both very stylish and had a really nice feel. The breakfast had a really nice choice, the only negative I would say is that the hash browns and black pudding seemed to have been fried which left them too crispy and tasteless. The only real negative about this hotel is the parking. It is limited and has small bays. When we returned late at night after the concert, there was only one space left round the back of the hotel which was incredibly tight to squeeze into.

"Great hotel at a great price"

4
19/06/2018

Stayed here for one night as we were attending a concert in Manchester. All decent hotels in Manchester were charging a premium for the Saturday night so started looking further afield and found Smokies Park. We were not disappointed, the hotel was really good with plenty parking, clean rooms, helpful staff and so much cheaper than city centre hotels. A taxi from the hotel to Deansgate was £20, ordered from reception and there in a couple of minutes. Worth paying the taxi into Manchester and back for staying in a nice hotel at a fantastic price.

"Business stay"

5
10/06/2018

Stopped off for an overnight business stay with a colleague. Lovely hotel and ideally placed for our morning meeting the following day. Stop off at Best Western Hotels wherever and whenever possible. This hotel was of exceptional quality.

"One night business stay"

4
01/06/2018

Usual Best Western quality, not quite the best, but comfortable enough for a short business trip. Good value accommodation and food. Breakfast rather over cooked . . . . first time I've had crispy scrambled eggs!

"Will definitely be back."

5
31/05/2018

Friendly and super helpful staff made my stay stress free and enjoyable. Would definitely recommend. I've rated everything bar sleep quality as a 5, but that's not really the hotel's fault - the weather was scorching hot and I think I would have had to get my head down in a blast chiller to get a decent sleep!

"Smokies Park Hotel"

5
30/05/2018

When I first booked Smokies Park Hotel I was a little disappointed. It was my third choice hotel. I was planning a visit to Bury for the Bank Holiday weekend & thought this hotel was a little to far out. How wrong could I have been. The extra drive was well worth the effort. From the moment I arrived to the time of my departure the staff could not have been any more friendly & helpful. They all had a great knowledge of the area & all took an interest in my reason for the visit. The room was excellent and the choice of meals & quality were outstanding. If you are looking for somewhere to stay in the Oldham area you will be sadly disappointed if you don't try here first.

"Executive room without a view!"

4
30/05/2018

Great hotel, great nights sleep. Cleanliness of the room carpets was a slight issue for an executive room but didn't detract from the stay. Was a little disappointed to find the TV aerial broken when all you want to watch is music when you arrive back from a concert!

"G"

29/05/2018

A superb hotel and surpassed expectations. We were let down in January for our accommodation to a gig at the Etihad. All Manchester hotels even the cheap budget hotels were booked or £200 plus and therefore pleasantly surprised to get such a good rate at Smokies (£58). The journey to Manchester City Centre is around £18 and £15 to the Etihad so definitely worth staying here and paying additional for the taxi as it's still cheaper. The hotel pictures do not deceive with it being modern, well maintained and clean. The bar is great, with a variety of draft and other alcoholic beverages. The breakfast was an additional £9.50 which for what you can have is a bargain. Unlike some where you would expect a continental breakfast but at Smokies you get a high quality cooked breakfast. The room was comfortable. The bed was a double (so not massive), however had all amenities and a decent shower. Many thanks to the staff who were very friendly, welcoming and helpful.

"All good"

14/05/2018

one night stop-over for work next day in Ashton, only few miles away, hotel area is run down but hotel has free secureish' carpark, staff were great, dinner in bar was excellent, breakfast also good, room slightly dated but comfortable and spotlessly clean, nice big new tv, free WiFi worked great Would recommend over 2x Village hotels nearby £70 BB good value

"Friendly Place"

4
12/05/2018

We stayed here for two nights over the bank holiday. Very easy check in, lift up to rooms. Comfortable bed. Shower and bath very good and all very clean. Tea and coffee available with mugs not tiny cups, that's a plus for me. Extra milks and coffees came very quickly when I requested more. Ate here once and can recommend the burgers, house wine very good about £19 a bottle. Lots of parking. Bus stops nearby. Trams not far away. We had l taxi to Picadilly Station and was £16. Lovely park nearby with flat walks.

"Enjoyable stay for a Golden Celebration"

4
07/05/2018

We enjoyed a two night stay here for a family friends Golden Wedding celebration. The function suite was well presented and we all had a great time. Food was good with a good selection of dishes. The bacon ,egg and sausage sandwiches were lovely to help everyone have energy for dancing. There was a good selection of food at breakfast with a help yourself buffet , you could also choose other items to be cooked as required. However the choice of menu in the restaurant was rather disappointing , the bar food had a larger menu. I found the bedroom comfortable and easy to sleep in (dark and quite with a comfortable bed). The room was rather hot and my wife found it difficult to read ( poor lighting ).

"Friday Night Treat"

5
30/04/2018

We enjoyed another nice meal at smokies. I had the Cajun chicken and my wife had Ribeye Steak. It was cooked to a good standard. The whole experience was very good. The service was very good and we feel it is very good value for money. The staff were very pleasant and couldn't do enough for you. We would definitely recommend smokies and we look forward to going again soon.

"Dads 70 birthday "

29/04/2018

We had booked for 25 but we had 20 in total including 7 children. We took carvery option. We decided on this just for the size of the party & the price. We all took our seat ordered drinks. To be fair it being a Sunday service was not bad at all good really. Drinks arrived in good time it gave people time to catch up .We entered around 14.25 left around 18.00 . We never felt rushed at all . Beer was good carvery decent Salad bar was good. The meats on offer were good . At the end of the day . If you are paying £11.95 for 3 course meal what do you want ... !!! The hotel is very clean couldn't find fault for what we paid . Staff worked hard just like to say thank you for making the day good. I think the whole party enjoyed it . My father in law was made up .. ??

"Average hotel, with room for improvement"

3
29/04/2018

Visited for a christening Saturday 28th April. Central location, with car park. Room hire was upstairs with no staff present to direct people to the party. Venue was booked for 80 people however the room was quite small and only had 6 tables present with 7 chairs on each table, so yes only 42 seats! One extra table was brought out. The buffet was brought out which ran out after about 15/20 minutes with some people not having anything. ( I shared a plate). I thought it was quite a poor buffet for the venue and there was defiantly not enough food for 80 people. They forgot to cater for the gluten, celiac and vegetarian options. More food was asked to be brought out but it was only poor tuna, cheese & egg sandwiches. Alcohol was pricey £29 for a bottle of very dry Prosecco which wasn't very nice. Also had to walk downstairs through a bar to the toilets. Hopefully I won't be invited to another party there! Other Best Western Hotels have always been great.

"Nice stay"

4
29/04/2018

Stayed here for one night, very friendly reception staff and lovely waitress Leanne in restaurant. Room was clean and bed comfy with tea and coffee making facilities. Only comment would be that bathrooms need updating. Would recommend to anyone in area.

"Decent one-night stay "

4
26/04/2018

Stayed at this Best Western for one night while working in Oldham. It's easy to find on main road to the south of the town. Nice welcome on reception. I had room on ground floor, and it was clean and tidy. A good size with tea and coffee making facilities. The bed was ok. Breakfast was included in my rate. Again, this was ok. I would definitely recommend if you're in the area.

"Better than average"

26/04/2018

Nice surrounding, clean room and efficient service. Dinner portions were very generous and quality was better than average. Breakfast was ok, with more choice it would have been better. I would have loved a full water shower head rather than a water saving one.

"Great Stay"

23/04/2018

We have stayed at this Hotel 3 times, always welcomed with great service. A wonderful base to explore nice places such as Daisy Nook and Crime Lake. You see many species of Birds and Fish whilst walking along the many canals.

"Newly refurbished room. Clean. Spacious."

4
22/04/2018

Good sized room. Nearly refurbished. Was a bit noisy right next to bar, but as we were up till the same time wasn't an issue. Accepts contactless. Attended a function. Could have done with an extra bar staff for much of the night.

"All fine"

20/04/2018

Check in easy and friendly. Clear information about hotel etc. Rooms are clean. Location is good as it is close to a park and a beautiful church. Breakfast is not the best. You can see and taste that saving money place a role. Waiter is not really educated for the job and does not like to work in a hotel. Both is not giving a good start into the day and will remain for making a decision next time.

"Barker/Gradwell wedding "

5
20/04/2018

Well where do we start! My husband & I have been knocked away with the customer service, thoughtfulness and planning that went into our special day at Smokies 23rd March 2018 Sophie Rothwell the  Wedding & Sales Co-ordinator could not have looked after us better!  (even if she had been the Matron of honour/Best man) she ran up & down stairs and corridors, directing, organising, and steering guests and grandchildren checking on the groom plying the bride with packets of biscuits handing out gifts, dressing the rooms to perfection and all this with a smile on her face. So on behalf of Mr & Mrs Darren Barker and all of their family and friends  THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING xxxx

10/04/2018

Well where do i start with this amazing hotel, the day me and my partner walked in to view the room all the way to the wedding day Sophie made us feel so welcome. We fell in love with the room and all the staff are amazing and friendly we visited a lot for the Sunday carvery to organise the wedding as this is absolutely gorgeous. Back to the wedding I admit I was a little like a bridezilla but nothing was to much for them they accommodated on everything I asked for and wanted and didn't want, nothing was to much trouble I apologise to the chef I bet I was a nightmare. The staff on reception was amazing and so friendly. I am gutted my wedding is over but that won't stop me still returning for a Sunday carvery. The bedrooms are perfect and the beds are so comfy. Thank you for all being so kind helpful and making my day so perfect. Mr and Mrs Haggerty

Very good clean hotel with great staff, small gym with sauna and steam room. Food is fresh and hearty. Breakfasts are as good as you will get. The bar is cosy with good food and a good selection of beers and wines.

"Great hotel for a fair price"

4
26/03/2018

We booked through Hotels.com a couple of rooms but some of our party had to rearrange their stay last minute and kindly the hotel agreed to move their stay with no issues. We arrived about 10.45pm and seemed to get the last space in the carpark not sure if there was more parking elsewhere but the carpark didn't seem that big for the size of the hotel. We booked a standard room but were pleasantly surprised on check in that we were upgraded to an executive room which was lovely - quiet part of the hotel, big room with a lounge area, comfy bed, nice toiletries. The room was clean but some areas need a little extra clean - layer of dust round some items of the bathroom - like toilet roll holder and toiletry dish etc Check in and check out was quick, friendly and easy, we didn't stay for breakfast so can't comment but will definitely stay again if in the area.

"So nearly a 5!"

4
25/03/2018

Booked a standard room but on arrival was allocated an “executive” room. Staff were very friendly at check-in and on checking out. Very spacious room, large king size bed and 2 sofas. Fridge, tea/coffee, iron and ironing board, flat screen tv. Room was very clean in the main with one notable exception which was the “gift” left in the toilet bowl, presumably by the previous occupant and missed by the cleaner! Quickly dealt with but not what you expect. Having said that I will stay here again in the future.

"Up to standard"

4
10/03/2018

Stayed one night and I'm quite a regular visitor so check in was speedy as usual. Room was good, clean and spacious(126). Staff were friendly and welcoming in the reception, bar and restaurant with a good breakfast offering.

"Very nice stay"

5
04/03/2018

The hotel is very nice and the staff were lovely! The bed was really comfy and massive for a double bed. The only slight problem was the lights were very dim in the room but that didn't cause much distress. Would definitely stay again and recommend to anyone.

"The weather was frightful, my stay was delightful "

5
03/03/2018

I've had a two night stay at best western hotel Smokies park and I can honestly say I have enjoyed my stay, the staff have been very helpful also the rooms were very nice with the added bonus of shower pressure. Breakfast was delightful, the weather was atrocious which brought the hotel to be full, this did not affect my stay as the staff handled the influx of people very well. I would return.

"Wedding Vow Renewal"

5
02/03/2018

We were renewing our wedding vows but had the whole ceremony etc. Staff were absolutely fantastic, Sophie organising everything with me and Becky on the day. All our friends and family really enjoyed themselves, we were in the Medlock suite, all the meals were served hot with no complaints, table decorations just as we wanted and perfect. it was fabulous and floorless from start to finish. Brilliant day, thank you very much to all the staff, and we would recommend this venue, the Buffet was fab and no one was left hungry, night staff were very friendly in the guest bar for those who were staying, sandwiches for us left in our room as requested, hot buffet breakfast in the morning, just couldn't fault anything, for those looking for a venue to celebrate etc this is the perfect venue in our opinion. Thank you all again,

"50th Birthday party "

5
26/02/2018

Enjoyed a wonderful birthday party in the Crompton Suite, fab service from start to finish, special thanks to Becky on the night who was so helpful & even arranged at last min for two veggie meals for the buffet! The buffet was fab, so much of it, no one went hungry!! We also stayed overnight with lots of our guests so a big thanks to the guys who looked after us in the residents bar until the small wee hours! Breakfast was really good (hot buffet style) lots of it and was kept fresh & hot! Overall I would definitely recommend Smokies to anyone thinking of having that special occasion! Thanks again!

26/02/2018

We visited this hotel for one night stay for our friends 50th. Very dated facilities. Room 306.. dirty with broken shower. Carpet could have done with a proper vacuum, visible dust everywhere even the kettle! Bed nice and comfy.

"Overnight stay in Oldham"

5
18/02/2018

Could have been a really challenging stay. Very large wedding party coincided with our visit and then the 24 hour sandwich availability was vastly reduced when we came back at 10.00 feeling very peckish. Both possible pitfalls were handled very well by the bar and reception staff. The rooms were spacious and clean and we were made to very welcome. Would have no hesitation in returning.

"Meh"

08/02/2018

Car park was a nightmare as big event at neighbouring restaurant. Hotel ok. Staff pleasant enough. Room ok. Power shower the highlight of stay. Room a bit bland but most BW's are. But wasn't bad. Stayed in worse!

"Fantastic"

5
02/02/2018

Have just had a stay there for 5 nights. The hotel made my stay so comfortable. All the staff where friendly and polite and always willing to help. The rooms are clean, comfortable and a good size. Extremely quiet. Only are in the bar but enjoyed the food. Only issue was the fact you can't order the restaurant food for the bar, which then limits your choices if you don't want to eat in the restaurant. Breakfast was really nice and staff were polite and helpful. Just 1 day I wanted Eggs Florentine but was told there was no spinach or muffins.

"Fantastic stay"

5
28/01/2018

We stayed in their standard room which was surprisingly large and very clean with a kingsize bed. We ate in the bar and the food was gorgeous. It was plentiful, well presented and very tasty. Special thanks to Miguel behind the bar for his excellent service and his charm and witty sense of humour that kept us both bemused and entertained all evening. We will definitly be returning.

"A pleasant stay"

4
26/01/2018

A nice hotel with a comfortable room and friendly staff. Had an issue with room cleanliness, moving a coffee table exposed a lot of long black hair as if cleaned from a hair brush and moving a lamp over to put something down a top had to be wiped as it was covered with a sticky black substance (????) assuming something was spilt and not cleaned up. Meals were good.

"Wedding"

17/01/2018

Had our wedding here 23rd December 2017 couldn't of picked a better venue, the staff are amazing, the rooms were fab such a perfect day would highly recommend to any perspective brides and grooms, thankyou from Mr and Mrs Clarke.

"Quiet and tranquil 3rd floor room and spotlessley clean."

4
17/01/2018

Amy was one of the nicest receptionists we have ever encountered. Calm, with a lovely personality and very informative. She set the scene for a very comfortable stay. We grabbed a sandwich and a drink before we left for our family birthday party at another venue, so we cannot give feedback on the dining experience. However, our room on the 3rd floor was absolutely spotless and overlooked a small farm with horses in the paddock. Breakfast was first class with a huge choice of dishes. A really nice hotel and great value for money.

"Great stay again"

5
13/01/2018

Got to say, the staff are brilliant here, the house keeping lady, different class, couldn't do enough for you, the rooms were clean tidy, and stocked well, Never had one complaint, the reception was really switched on, and answered all questions, stayed new years Eve, well done all ????????

"Our PERFECT day"

5
11/01/2018

We recently got married at Smokies. I can not praise all the staff enough for their continued professionalism. Sophie was our wedding planner and nothing has ever been to much trouble. She and all the staff have gone above and beyond to make our day perfect, which is what it was. Our day ran very smooth and stress free. We had Becki to manage the day. The communication between staff and us was great. We couldn't have asked for more! The wedding breakfast was delicious. The evening buffet was fabulous, we had a great choice of food and all our guests have commented on the excellent quality of the food throughout the day. The rooms were all very clean and spacious. Fantastic day, fantastic venue definitely worth 5 ??????????

"My Wedding"

5
31/12/2017

The best place to hold a wedding by far! From the initial wedding show to the big day nothing was to much trouble for Sophie and the team, everything planned to precision and perfectly executed on the day. Me and my new wife could not of asked for anything more, it just made our day even more special. Rooms were all clean, check in was effortless and breakfast was delicious and plenty of variety. All our guests were really pleased with the hotel overall and a definite talking point was the quantity and variety of food on offer. For anyone planning a wedding I couldn't recommend any other venue, they take the stress out of the panning to leave you to enjoy the experience. A huge thank you again to Sophie and the team

"Birthday and Christmas celebration"

3
22/12/2017

We were having our Christmas work party at smokies carnival night and as it was also my partner's birthday ,I decided to book a "superior" room as a suprise. The party night was fantastic,it's our 3rd year celebrating at smokies and as always it was fabulous night, everyone had a great time, the entertainment is first class, the staff are so friendly and work so hard to make it a memorable night, only one complaint, the drink prices are so high even by hotel standards!!!!But we all enjoyed it so much and will most likely go next year too!! Now to the room! It was big. But....their were two bulbs out in the bathroom,I needed some light to put my make up on,so I asked reception and they sent someone to change one bulb. It lasted maybe 10 minutes...they changed it again....5mins later it started flashing then went out! There wasn't enough light anywhere in the room to do make up The wardrobe area had about 4or 5 lights but no mirror!!! I was quite disappointed with the room ,being called superior, but all there was was alotvof empty space and it was gloomy and also it was very dusty on the lamps and the bedhead, could do better if it's premium price and superior. We were offered another room but they were all the same, just lit by two bedside lights. The bed tho,was very comfortable and huge Don't know if I'd stay their again, even for a night out

"Long Stayer"

Have stayed at this hotel many times for work reasons, staff are always pleasant. Good service in the restaurant, Leanne was really friendly. Food was tasty and the beer (American IPA) was fairly decent.

"Nice hotel but freezing bedrooms"

4
13/12/2017

Lovely hotel, very comfortable beds, kettle with cups etc, hairdryer, bath and shower all lovely. Staff lovely and helpful but rooms were freezing, bathroom was extremely cold when having a bath. Told receptionist and she immediately gave me a heater. Passage ways were also freezing but bar and restaurant where warm

"Short stay"

Booked in early on Saturday afternoon for a one night stay, staff very helpful , as usual , room clean and refreshed.breakfast Sunday morning was excellent , good choice, hot food.friendly , helpful staff.

"Poor executive rooms"

2
11/12/2017

Stayed a year ago and this visit we upgraded to an executive room On arrival room wasn't ready had to wait an hour It was freezing, so we're the corridors No hot water no shower working They brought a heater as it was so cold Bedside lamp not working And woken 4.30am then again 6am by fire alarms . Rang reception and was told someone had fallen asleep in the shower and it set it off .. then it went off again 2 hours later ?? Not good enough ! Expect better from Best Western especially as we booked an executive room

"Simple but clean"

4
08/12/2017

I stayed for two days in this older hotel . The room's are very clean with vert attentive service. There is an attached restaurant which is very good, a good place for a short stay. I would recommend this hotel if you are in the area.

"Halfway back"

4
08/12/2017

Decided on this location as it was in the middle of visits the following day. On arrival looked to be in good fair with Christmas lights around the car park. A very warm welcome at reception and everything you needed to know was explained in a polite manner. Room was very spacious with all the mod cons and although close to the main road the room was quite, regarding the room I was impressed that the shower curtain had been weighted and trimmed back so not causing a possible slip or trip hazard as with other hotels, and I did pass my thoughts on to the front desk for house keeping. The bar area was well set out and the food was plentiful and a well stocked bar All in all yes I will be back

"Peter Osborne room 402 brillant"

5
23/11/2017

we had 2 rooms booked here and had never stayed there before, are stay was really good but made amazing/fantastic by Amy on reception and Shane the duty manger. i have stayed all over the world and have never been treated so well they could not do enough for us, Superb !!! rated as a 3 star hotel but they definitely have 5 star staff. i will definitely be telling everyone about are stay and treatment by the staff, especially Amy.

"Large, comfortable room, friendly staff"

4
23/11/2017

The hotel is not that well signposted so is easy to miss particularly driving on Ashton Road from Oldham with the hotel set back from the road down towards the bottom of a steep hill known locally as Bardsley Brew. The hotel is clean and modern, staff were universally friendly and the room we were in (205) was well appointed and larger than the norm in chain hotels and sported a superking bed. Breakfast was a Best Western standard buffet with a range of cereals, fruit and all the elements of a full English including decent quality bacon. Coffee in large vacuum jugs could have been hotter and the buffet suffered, as in all the Best Westerns I have stayed in, with the bread in the baskets for toasting passable when toasted but akin to cardboard if eaten as bread and butter. The commercial toaster, incidentally, is excellent - as long as guests don't fiddle with the settings. With those few reservations it is a good breakfast with reasonable choice and, as it is a buffet, enough for the largest appetites. There are also extra items that can be ordered such as poached or boiled eggs. Hotels gain a useful income from weddings and parties at weekends and there was at least one filling the bar on the night we stayed but to be fair even with the evening reception in full swing, we heard no noise in our room or in reception, but receptions and parties create an added problem for guests. We returned from a meal with friends just after 10pm and parking was a problem with every space taken, not aided by some inconsiderate parking by people ignoring the white lines of parking spaces. We drove around a couple of times and were even considering asking for a refund and checking out when a car left and a space became available. I accept hotels have to make money and, hopefully, income from wedding receptions, helps reduce room rates, but it would help if some spaces were reserved for residents only. Your car registration is logged at reception which seems a pointless exercise when many of the spaces are taken by unregistered wedding guests. There is plenty of parking at the hotel but parties and receptions put a real strain on spaces available for residents.

"Happy helpful staff"

4
22/11/2017

We stayed here last weekend on a Friday and Saturday night Good size room bathroom a little tired but good value for money. Comfortable beds, good free parking. CLose to the countryside where we enjoyed a walk and also handy for a theatre visit to HOME in Manchester and the Christmas markets. Would use again when we are next in the area

"Our wedding "

5
20/11/2017

We had our wedding ceremony at smokies on Saturday 4th Nov. This was followed by a hot buffet for family at friends and then an evening party with a further cold buffet. The whole day and night were fantastic. Sophie was our wedding planner and coordinated everything for us. She was so kind and friendly putting me at ease so I didn't have to worry about anything on the day. We even had a glitch were the music cd I gave her for the ceremony didn't work and she sorted it without me even knowing an hour before. Amazing lady. The ceremony was beautifully dressed, and everything was discreetly turned round quickly ready for the meal and night time party . Again all the tables were dressed beautifully exactly as we had wanted it. Best Western Smokies was a lovely venue. Thank you to Sophie and her team for any amazing wedding. Dawn and Colin

"Great breakfast!"

4
16/11/2017

Room 117, ground floor. Nice, warm and comfy. Cooked breakfast in the morning was great - unlike the normal dried biscuit of black pudding, you are treated to a moist and succulent bloody delight! Three scrambled eggs were really tasty too, pesos because the chef hadn't cheapened the dish by adding too much milk.

"Daughters wedding"

5
16/11/2017

We held our daughters wedding at Smokies, and cannot fault anything. Sophie was fabulous she went above and beyond to ensure the day ran smoothly. I cannot thank her enough. All the staff were extremely helpful. Food was great everyone commented on how nice it was. The room was decorated beautifully. All in all a perfect day....Thanks to Sophie and her team.

"Might be the best in Oldham but..."

2
15/11/2017

....business meeting here. On the very transaction reception were so slow it was painful. Ages to sort anything Whilst in reception and bar having a coffee, listened to staff openly slate management and use some choice language doing it Ages to get served in bar Lock broken on toilet door - had people walk in on me and watched it happen to others Chairs in bar "sticky". The whole place felt like the 1970s was back!! Saving graces: Reception staff very helpful and polite (just excruciatingly slow)?? Member of staff who served meeting room was very nice and helpful?? Food, surprisingly good ?? Overall, I'd not choose to use and definitely wouldn't want to stay! Sorry!

"My wedding day "

5
13/11/2017

We got married at smokies and was the best decision we made Sophie was fantastic and do not know what we would of done with out her she made us feel so comfortable like we had known her for years and is definitely what you want on a big day like that all the staff could not help you enough. Thanks for everything and thanks for a perfect day would highly recommend and the food was soo nice and everyone said how much they enjoyed the day from start to finish and it was all thanks to your team n Sophie the day ran perfectly thank you xx

"staff nice but a little lacking in places"

3
13/11/2017

Check in was very nice and pleasant and the lady was very helpful and suggested a very nice walk. The room was very nice but the heating was not very good (I was given a fan heater) the towel rail was switched off and when I asked how to turn it on I was told they had all been disconnected as they get to hot! The restaurant was cold as the heating had broken despite a number of heaters being used. A number of choices were not available but the food that was on was very good. Check out in the morning was a bit of a disaster as the night porter was laying up for breakfast so I had to wait for 10 minutes (I was in a rush to an early meeting). I guess could do better is the strap line.

"GOOD UPGRADE"

4
02/11/2017

Used this hotel as cheaper option to the usual airport hotels, so we arrived late and left early. Check out was a little slow. Received a very good upgrade (with the highest coat hooks I have ever seen!) and had an enjoyable meal in the bar.

"Good night's sleep but ....."

3
31/10/2017

Booked in here for one night on business. Check in was quick and easy, room a bit of a strange shape with a sloped ceiling. I had been given a room which was adapted which didn't matter to me but the shower was very cramped and I struggled to shower in it. Dinner in the bar was ok nothing flash. I slept very well bed was super comfy,

"Good value for money"

4
29/10/2017

Reception staff very friendly on arrival as were breakfast staff and cleaning staff. Pleasent room good size very clean, there were some stains on the ceiling and wall which let it down slightly. Tea tray and toileteries good. Comfy bed and quiet room. Shower powerful but would have liked it a bit hotter.excellent breakfast plenty to choose from buffet style,in a pleasant atmosphere. Toaster was too slow took ages to Brown bread. Handy for visiting manchester arena. Good value paid £88 for room and breakfast ,I would stay here again.

"Business Stay"

3
28/10/2017

Ok so you're not spoilt for choice in hotels in this area, but Smokies Park does a good job. It looks like the hotel has just been repainted so the decor was good On arrival I found the reception staff to be friendly and helpful with the same on checking out. The room was nicely decorated and certainly well maintained. To eat I stayed in the bar which served basic foods burgers, steaks, chips etc. The bar was great as there were very few people in on both nights I stayed. Breakfast was ok but I really wish the staff wouldn't address me as “mate” just a little bit familiar. The real downside of this hotel is the parking if you're a little late arriving then you will struggle All in all the hotel is perfectly acceptable

"A Good Hotel to stay in if in the area"

4
17/10/2017

Stayed overnight on business in the area. This hotel was more than adequate. Dined in the restaurant which was very reasonable with plenty of food. The breakfast was just as good with a wide choice. Business it likely to take back to this area in the future and will stay here again.

"Free upgrade "

3
15/10/2017

I stay at this hotel about 6 tines per year. But on this occasion I was given a free upgrade to an executive room. The room size was great and some nice touches also, bathrobes, slippers, toothbrush, shaving kit etc. On the downside the decor of the room was poor: damaged laminate, air bath not working, tv reception poor, water pressure in the shower poor. Come on Best Western, get it sorted!

"Lovely Hotel, lovely staff!"

5
05/10/2017

Stayed there for two nights in the last week. Lovely clean accommodation. Rooms large, toiletries all provided. Restaurant and bar snacks really good. Staff really nice and friendly. This is our second stay. We have just signed up for their benefits package.

"Great Hotel with caring staff"

5
03/10/2017

Stayed here for a week on business. The checking process could not be any better. Arrived at the hotel at around 9:00am as my flight from US arrives into Manchester very early in the morning. Jay was the one who checked me in and initially I was told that I could not check in until 2:00pm but after explaining to Jay that I had just come from overseas and did not have any where to go and that I am going to be waiting in the lobby. He immediately got in touch with house keeping and got a room ready for me withing half hour. Thank you Jay. The room that was assigned was really great with one problem: it was in a corner of the hotel and I was having a lot of trouble with WiFi access. Went down to the reception in the evening and told about the problem. Amy, who was at the reception at time, said that she would reset the router and see if the service improved. It did not, so I went to the reception again and she immediately tried to find me a different room. There was no room available until the next day, so Amy left a note for the morning staff informing them of changing my room. The next day after I returned from work, not only did she changed my room but also upgraded the room for free of charge. Thank you very much, Amy and Jay, for accommodating me and addressing my problem.

"2nd Visit"

4
03/10/2017

This is my 2nd stay here and I chose to stay here this time after my last visit. The hotel is clean and tidy, the staff very helpful and friendly. I ate here last time and although, as with most hotels, there is not a huge choice on the menu, the food was quite nice and priced fairly. I have used the gym whilst here this time and it is more of a small room with some exercise equipment, but adequate. I would definitely stay here again.

"Not very impressed "

3
03/10/2017

We went here for a works 20 years dinner do The place at first glance needs tidying up a bit the food was not very great it looked just canteen food the meat on the bottom and then the veg piled on top with gravy slapped on personally I would come here again

"A lovely stay!"

5
28/09/2017

My son and I stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed out stay. It was all we could ask for. Comfortable beds and a good room and a tasty breakfast. Staff were friendly and helpful. Car parking was good at the front of the hotel although busy some nights!

"Surprisingly Good!"

5
26/09/2017

I stayed here with my Fiance on Saturday night while we were attending our engagement party nearby and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised how good it actually was. Both the reception and bar staff provided excellent service, nothing was too much trouble. The decor in the bar was great and our room was both well decorated and very clean. There was a wedding on the day we arrived, when we entered the bar the wedding party were just leaving to go to one of the function suites and a small army decended on the bar, within 3 minutes all furniture was back where it should be, tables cleaned, glasses cleared away and you wouldn't have known anything had happened. Very impressed. Honestly couldn't fault this hotel, especially for the price we paid and we will definitely be back.

"Everything I needed"

19/09/2017

Stayed here for work last month. Its easy to find and its a decent sized car park. It looks nice from the outside and is equally nice inside. Room was tidy and clean and the restaurant was pretty good as well Would stay there again if nearby

"Friendly good accomodation"

5
18/09/2017

Thank you for a super stay, room very clean, breakfast lots of choice. Staff in reception, bars and cleaning staff very friendly and made us so welcome. We enjoyed the Sunday lunch which was great value. Very busy hotel at weekends with weddings.

"Great Hotel"

5
28/08/2017

Stayed for a cycling race, great for parking van, brilliant room service food was delicious. Staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. Both nights there was a wedding on and we were woken up early morning with noise but apart from that could not fault the hotel, would recommend and stay again

Brent H, General Manager at Best Western Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear ManxWeeto1 Hope your cycling race went well. Thank you for your review of our hotel and for the kind comments about the team, your room and meals . I am sorry you were woken up by other guests. "Great place to stay"

26/08/2017

I am staying on a room only basis and found it to be very comfortable for my 4 weeks working in Oldham. The staff are very helpful and my room was kept clean and tidy by the cleaning staff, always refilled my biccies and coffee as well as the bathroom stuff.

Brent H, General Manager at Best Western Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear Guy C Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. I do like hearing from guests who stay for a long period as they have a far deeper understanding of the hotel and it demonstrates to me that my team are very consistent. I am so pleased you found the team helpful and that your room was well serviced every day. I hope we see you again next time you are in the area. Booked for 1 night are last minute as local job overran. Rooms a little dated in decor but large size, very clean and very comfortable. Price is incredibly good value. Have already booked another night for next week.

Stayed here for 8 days just recently, we were very pleased with the room we had and the service from the folks at the Front Desk was just great. As we were visiting from Canada we needed lots of help getting around and these people were only too happy to help us, calling cabs and telling us the best places to go etc. We had great meals in the restaurant but only had one breakfast as we found it expensive just for a Continental one. I would highly recommend this place to anyone for a great stay, many thanks to the young lady on the front desk and the young man who helped us so much, would stay here again in a heartbeat.

"What a shambles "

18/08/2017

We had booked a superior room but the only thing that was superior was the dust and dirt. When we complained to reception we were offered an alternative but it was not superior. The bed was a double not s king. We decided to go for drink in the bar to destress. The lift was filthy with a crisp bag in the corner which was still there 4 hours later. The floor of the bar had crisps around the seating area. We won't be coming back

"Wedding in the Crompton Suite"

18/08/2017

From the moment we booked our wedding and right throughout our day nothing was too much trouble. Sophie went out of her way to ensure we were happy and spent the time to talk about our plans. She was also very helpful following the wedding when we could'nt find a few of our items from our day. The Crompton suite was dressed beautifully. The wedding breakfast and evening buffet were really nice. Many people commented on the meat and potato pie! The hotel room was very clean and spacious. I would love to do it all again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel for a wedding. Thankyou Smokies for co-ordinating our special day and for the memories that will last a lifetime.

Dear HelloKittyEngland Thank you for choosing to celebrate your wedding day with us. I am so pleased we were able to help make it so special for you. I shall pass on your kind comments to all the team, especially Sophie that looked after you. She now plans our weddings from start to finish as she has a real passion for making sure everything goes to plan. It was also great to hear how much you liked the wedding breakfast and evening buffet. I shall find out which chef made the meat & potato pie and let him know it was well received. I would like to wish you all the best for the future and hope we see you again soon Kind Regards Brent Hutchins BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

Nice hotel, good service, and good rooms. Breakfast buffet all you can eat. The bar in the evening serves food in addition to the restaurant. Drinks are a bit pricey, but that is just how hotels are. The best thing about the bar was Diane the bar tender, she was busy all the time but chatty and welcoming.

"Grubby, Poorly run, and falling to bits"

2
08/08/2017

Paid a pretty penny for this place for an 'executive' room. When we got there we were told they had 'a problem with the room' and told us we could have the bridal suite for the night but we would have to move in the morning to another room. This basically meant we couldn't settle and enjoy our weekend. Car park really tight - almost no room to open your doors without them hitting the vehicle next to you. Can't imagine how much damage gets done here. As far as the bridal suite went it was cluttered, a bit grubby, the loft type window was dirty - and the shape and angles in the room resulted in a ton of wasted space. The curtains didn't fit properly so the rising sun burned in through the windows like a lazer. The traffic noise was utterly horrendous. I know it's on an A road, but I've slept in hotel rooms in the busiest parts of New York & San Francisco and I can honestly say this place sucks for noise. Laminate flooring damaged (and a pretty noisy option for a hotel, WTF?). Dust and dirt under the bed where it had not been cleaned properly. Plus points - the bed was comfortable and if it wasn't for the noise would have probably got a half decent nights sleep on it. Stingy on the milk and toilet roll given the money they were charging. Moved to a room the other end of the floor the following day (401). Sink damaged in bathroom. Floor still wet. Leaking toilet inlet pipe. Poorly fitted bath that door collides into. Fan in bathroom faulty and making enough noise to wake the dead. TV's too small for the room and out of date lacking a guide feature. General building fabric grubby. Looked at the 'free' breakfast and left it alone - felt it would be safer given the amount of toilet roll left in the room. Used the filament lounge on the Sunday morning for food. Almost had to beg the guy to get served just wanted to move bottles around and ignore us. Rude and abrupt. Moaning to a colleague about the night before. Food OK, but table unstable and flies buzzing around the place. Fairly poor value for money. People and staff milling around the front door smoking. Place is a bit minging generally. Overall a pretty poor experience, Won't be back. Really bad value for money. If this is a 'Best Western' I'd really hate to see an 'Average Western'.

08/08/2017

On arriving Around 10.30 pm found room not clean. Bedding clean but to our amazement On the writing desk was not one but two glasses of wine and in a carrier bag the remains of a take away. Night porter very pleasant. Should just put Them outside door for removal. Missing spoon to Coffee. I think cleaners got a little distracted and forgot to finish room. Cant think the staff had left Them for is - just incase was hungry. When got back to hotel saturday evening was greeted by blue flashing lights and police cars (Nice for My 14 year old granddaughter) Guess what a Nice quiet english wedding. Apart from All of this Cant fault the staff they were very polite. Hotel well not boring I must say. AM tempted to try different hotel next time. Not Even offered a rebate for dirty room.!!!

Brent H, General Manager at Best Western Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear Nastynanna Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel and I am so sorry to hear of the issues you experienced. The room you checked into had been booked out to a guest who was due to stay a second day, so the room have been cleaned but the room attendant had not removed the items you mentioned. The guest then decided to check out a day early at reception and this information had not filtered through to housekeeping. I am so sorry for any inconvenience this caused you and just want to reassure you this is not something that happens very often. I am also sorry for the disturbance that occurred at the wedding. An incident had taken place that needed police involvement. Thank you for your nice comments about the team who always try their best for our guests. I shall pass on your feedback. The majority of the staff were lovely yet those behind the bar need to learn to smile. The young girls who were there until 11pm serving food couldn't do enough for us. However management need to take a leaf out of their book. One manager shouted at a child at the wedding for running around and made him cry. However I believe this was dealt with. This woman needed to be more professional and remember that it's not her day. Moving on: Room - lovely and spacious. Beds ok and bathroom was fine. Just your standard 3* room. However the carpets in the corridor could do with updating. Breakfast: Poor. There were no pastries left at 9am and they said there will be no more. (Even though there's an hour left of service). The full English seemed ok, yet the fruit selection looked like it came from a tin? Overall we had a lovely time as guests at the wedding but I know I wouldn't chose my big day here. Very 3* which is what it is I guess....

"Silver wedding party/vow renewal"

5
26/07/2017

Just had a Silver Wedding/Vow Renewal on 25th July. Started planning 2 years ago and cannot fault Smokies. They did exactly what we required, not what they thought we wanted like other considered venues tried to do The "bride" and attendants stayed the night before and had a little party, and on the day Smokies staff looked after them with sandwiches and coffee at lunchtime whilst the got ready with hairdresser, make up etc. From the start of the ceremony until the end everything was like clockwork. With a menu choice for each course everyone was provided with the correct choice they had asked for. We had one Coeliac guest who was catered for even with a visit from the chef to explain how everything was kept Gluten free, even at breakfast the next morning. The provided DJ Marco did a great job. Stef the venue dresser did a fabulous job with the room, table settings, plans, place cards etc, and Lou the cake maker supplied us with a wonderful cupcake tower, away from the traditional wedding cake, along with Gluten free cupcakes. Guests who stayed the night on the 24th in one room and moved rooms on the Tuesday were given a very late checkout on the 25th, 4.00 pm., to allow them to get ready, the ceremony started at 4.30, and their clothes etc were moved into the second room without a hitch. They provided ample bar and service staff and all the staff were polite, considerate and helpful to any request. A special mention to Sarah who was with us from the start, and Sophie who ran the function on the day. Thank you Smokies you made our day special and I would recommend you to anyone.

"Wonderful Two Night Stay..."

23/07/2017

We enjoyed a two night stay on a Friday and Saturday night this month. The hotel is set back off the road. There is ample car parking and the grounds give it a very welcoming appearance. The staff in this hotel are definitely its great feature. They are friendly, welcoming and extremely helpful. Check in at reception was extremely quick and was done by Tom who is a very efficient and helpful young man. The room (219) was very spacious and immaculately clean. There are tea and coffee making facilities in the room together with biscuits and a complimentary bottle of water. The king sized bed was very comfortable indeed and in the bathroom the Bath Sheets are large and good quality. Throughout our visit the chambermaid kept our room spotless. There is Free Wi fi throughout the hotel. The Filament Lounge is large and televisions are present should you wish to watch any sport. The Barman, Miguel is extremely friendly and helpful. There is a restaurant called [email protected] The Manager, Sophie and waitress Rhiannon are two lovely young ladies who are very friendly, helpful and extremely efficient. Should you wish to Breakfast at the hotel you should book through Reception as the cost is £9.50 as opposed to £12.95 should you pay in the restaurant. Breakfast is a Buffet arrangement. The price of staying at this hotel is very reasonable and represents excellent value.

This hotel was everything we asked for in an overnight stay while visiting friends. Lovely room and amenities and the bar was fabulous also. Very accommodating. Rooms where clean and tidy with everything we needed for our stay

"Wedding Reception"

5
09/07/2017

I attended a Wedding reception at Smokies for my friends Debbie and Mark, the room was lovely, the buffet was gorgeous, the whole reception seemed like it was organised and ran perfectly well. The staff were brilliant. The manager running the event, I think her name was Katie, was absolutely fabulous, she couldn't do enough for Debbie and Mark and all of their guests! She was a lovely girl and made everybody feel welcome, I would recommend Smokies to my friends and family and I would also recommend them to personally ask for Katie when visiting the hotel. Thank you so much Smokies!

"Very decent accomodation"

4
04/07/2017

Stayed over for the night. Shared a twin room with my son who remarked about how comfortable the room was. Very pleasant staff - check-in was seamless. Decent price as we had a weekend or some such deal. The only reason I didn't give five stars is because I found the sound-proofing questionable, as you could hear from the room all activity in the corridor. This disturbed my late lie in.

"Great value"

4
03/07/2017

Friendly and efficient staff. Some noise from running taps in adjacent bathrooms but good size room, very clean. Ground floor room was perfect - short walk from reception, bar and dining room. Free car parking and plenty of spaces. Well worth the money.

"Fantastic venue for our charity night"

5
26/06/2017

We held our Charity Masquerade Ball at Smokies last week and it was a great success! The venue easily held >200 guests who were treated to a fabulous 3 course meal - feedback on this was excellent (especially about the beef and the cheesecake!). The staff were friendly and Sophie was super helpful and ensured the night ran smoothly! This was the 3rd event we have held there and we wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

"Not Great"

2
23/06/2017

Stayed for two nights at Smokies Park, Very welcoming and helpful at reception, ground floor inside room, and the rooms were a good size, and a comfortable six foot bed was a nice surprise. unfortunately, thats where it ends. The rooms are noisy, you can hear the other guests in adjacent rooms using their bathrooms, running water etc. The traffic in the corridor echo's like mad. We went to the bar for some lunch when we arrived. We had to call reception for service ( a bit odd) and then waited 15 minutes for someone to turn up. Nice lunch though, nice and fresh, and generous portions. Saturday Morning, friendly helpful staff in [email protected] smokies, usual hot and cold breakfast available, tea, coffee etc. The hit food didn't look that appetising, so didn't try it. Evening function went smoothly. Saturday breakfast, same as Friday, but not such a warm welcome, it felt like we were more of a hinderance, rather than a guest of the hotel. Not on my list of places to revisit.

"Father day meal"

21/06/2017

Took my dad to the Carvery for fathers day and he does struggle with his mobility - that staff could not do enough to support him and made his meal out more comfortable and enjoyable Thanks to both chefs and waitress

"Our wedding day"

17/06/2017

Myself and my partner got married yesterday at this venue x everything was perfect x all of the staff were so welcoming and helpful x we didn't have to worry about a single thing as we had people on hand to deal with whatever situation arose and to be honest not many did x we stayed in one of the suites in the evening time and the room was perfect and had everything we could possibly need x the food was also a major factor on our wedding day and everything tasted amazing and was always.piping hot when it was served. Overall I would highly recommend this venue for any type of function x an amazing day was had by all.x so thank you to all.the staff at smokies for producing the best day we.could possibly of had x we will never forget it xxx

"So pleased we chose Best Western Smokies Park for our wedding!"

30/05/2017

We've just had our wedding reception at this fantastic hotel. We couldn't fault the whole experience. Sarah, the wedding co-ordinator was really helpful, pleasant and experienced. She made us feel so at ease and tailored the wedding superbably to our specific requirements. The staff on the day were brilliant, especially Sophie the Duty Manager, who ensured everything went so smoothly and she was so personable and experienced. We held our reception in the Medlock Suite which looked fantastic, the food and service were wonderful. We had a complimentary honeymoon suite which was also great. Many of our guests stayed overnight for the wedding and they also all enjoyed their stay and the occasion. Overall we can honestly say that Best Western Smokies Park did us proud, couldn't fault any of the experience and would definitely recommend this Hotel. Well done to all the staff- you're a credit to the Hotel. A huge Thank You to you all from us newlyweds xx

"Pleasant stay but not good value for money."

29/05/2017

My partner and I stayed here for a friend wedding. On arrival the staff very pleasant we paid for our room £88. Our room was clean and adequate for our needs however the decor is a bit tired. We had one small bottle of water between us and just 2 sachets of coffee and 1 biscuit. Reception happily give us more but I expect a bit more for the price. We ate in the bar it was expensive and disappointing. I had Welsh Raebit which comprised of a small English muffin that was very chewy and tasteless with a few salad leaves. My partner had hotdog and chips, he enjoyed it but £10.95 is very expensive. Drinks also very expensive. We had a pleasant stay the staff are very nice. Very average no wow factor.

"Best place to stay in Oldham"

5
10/05/2017

Reside in Australia now, but always stay at Smokie's when back in Oldham. Made the mistake of one night at 247 Hotel, and will never make the same mistake. The staff are friendly and helpful. Even the cleaning staff interact and are good for a laugh, and accomodate to your needs. Rooms are well kept and have all required amenities. The beds are comfy, rooms are spacious, and there is little noise from outside. All meals are available in the bar/restaurant, however, I did find them to be a little pricey. Having said that, the meal quality cannot be faulted. There is a small gym and sauna, free of charge, which is great considering other places would slap more cost. The hotel is in walking distance of several shops, takeaways and post office. Daisy Nook is literally next door, where you can escape into the English woods. Travel wise, there is a bus stop 100 metres up the road, with frequent buses to Oldham, Rochdale and Ashton. From there, you can get buses and trams to Manchester.

"Lovely Hotel"

09/05/2017

Booked in here for one night as we attended a friend's wedding. Lovely spacious room with a huge comfy bed. The room the wedding reception was in was stunning. Cannot comment on the breakfast as we didn't have this but would definitely stay here again.

"Fine for an overnight "

3
01/05/2017

We stayed here for one night as part of a theatre trip to the Coliseum in Oldham where our friend was performing. Gentleman at reception on arrival was helpful & pleasant & printed out directions to the theatre for us & advised on a place to eat in town before the show - Joe's Smokehouse - very good burgers & friendly staff & only a couple of miles away. Our room was adequate for one night, clean comfortable bed, bathroom was a bit tired but again clean enough. We paid £9.50 each in advance (12.95) on the day for breakfast which was buffet style & what you'd expect from a hotel chain but slightly over priced in our opinion. At check out the lady there asked if everything had been alright & had we enjoyed the show which we felt was a nice touch. We would return if we were ever in Oldham again.

"Training "

1
28/04/2017

Visited Smokies Park for a training course, lady on reception was helpful, directed me to the disabled toilet but it didn't lock, thankfully no-one walked in on me! Was then directed to "the boardroom" sounds very grand but in reality it's more like a cupboard, good job I didn't have a cat to swing as there wasn't enough room! Training started and all was well until the tea and coffee was brought in by a bloke who had an immense cloud of B.O. surrounding him. Took around 10 mins for the smell to ease. Then he came back to take our lunch order, again bringing the fragrance with him. Lunch was served in the bar area, which had a similar temperature to Iceland - I am never cold, wander round in t shirts in the winter but it was absolutely freezing in here. The food had been sat in this cold room so by time we got there it was tepid. The halloumi and Mediterranean veg flatbread was ok, would have been lovely if warm and the bread soft but it was rock hard. Back to training after lunch and 2 more visits from stinky man. No idea how he gets away with working in hospitality and smelling like that! Overall won't be returning or booking any other courses there.

"Nice hotel "

5
26/04/2017

The room was decent size and clean. The rate of £58 for a nice was nice & cheap. Nothing to do in local area. So if it is just somewhere to get your head down then this is a great little hotel. Check when booking if breakfast is included if not you have to pay nearly a extra £10. This was my fault and nothing to do with hotel. I did have the breakfast and it was very nice.

"DON'T BOTHER EATING DINNER THERE."

3
23/04/2017

Only positive was the friendly staff. Had dinner. A lot of the menu was chargrill, but the chargrill had broken. Dinner we had was disgusting - worst spaghetti Bolognese I have ever had and left most of it. Creamed potato was lumpy. I did make a complaint. Chef should be retrained. Beer prices a rip off - £4.20 pint of lager. Room was too hot. Could not open window to cool down, because latch broken and would have let intruders in.

"Lovely place"

5
12/04/2017

When i think of budget hotel, my thoughts go to struggling to sleep because of noise or rotting rooms, (I used to work for Britain is hotels). Coming here we got a free upgrade because our room wasn't ready to one of the best suites. Bath didn't fully work and the ironing board cover needed changing but apart from that, was awesome. Massive comfy bed, spacious room and nice corridors with enough room outside to park too. Very impressed

"New Year Party, late review"

5
10/04/2017

Came here @ New Year for one of their parties. All I can say is it was excellent throughout. Room was nicely done up, tables were well thought out, there was enough space (just about), the food came out a table at a time, and was hot and well cooked. The entertainer was very good, gave us some Elvis then played decent music up to the New Year bit. If I had one criticism, it's the arrival process; you book a party and it's in a particular room (there are 3 or else 4 possibles), and seeing as you booked it months before, you can't remember which actual room it's in nor what the party was called, so there were lots of people wandering about to find their respective party - so perhaps make a bigger better set of posters next time. Oh and £35 for a bottle of Prosecco is a bit steep even for a hotel.

"Friendly service "

4
05/04/2017

This is a really nice hotel for a reasonable price. I would highly recommend it. The staff will go out there way to make you feel welcome. Especially Leanne. The food was very reasonable and of a very good quality.

"Disappointing dinner"

3
30/03/2017

Booked the restaurant to celebrate elderly relatives birthday, 9 people in total. The restaurant is part of a hotel, which is very convenient as we had invited some long distance guests. Normally we have had no issues, this is not the first tome we have eaten here. There are very few decent restaurants otside the city centre of Manchester. We had a disappionting evening as there was a wedding taking lace at same time and that meant: - Long wait at the bar to get drinks for the guests - the bar staff (one person) had to run around and could not attend the people in the bar properly. - Restaurant itself : the beef fillet was not available. - Very slow service from the kitchen for starters and also main course - 30 mins at least? On the plus side, the staff themselves, although stressed, remained polite and professional, excusing the delays and poor service. Recognising how long we had to wait for some of the main dishese, one of the bottles of wine was deducted from the invoice.

"Smokies Oldham"

30/03/2017

Was provided with a superior room at no extra cost. The room was spacious and suited my business needs. The bed was extremely comfortable and the breakfast was good. Nice place will return when next in the area.

"Smokies"

4
27/11/2016

I have stayed in the hotel for 2 nights whilst in the area, very tidy hotel first visit, room good size, only down side was a lack of menu choice and it was a bit expensive, the main restaurant only serving xmas food in november so we ended in the bar. I arrived nearly 8pm friday night very limited parking due to functions, there was some loud music around 2am saturday morning but other than that a good hotel, very clean. I may use again. £12 for breakfast is a rip off but many hotels charging similar amount so cannot fault them in that.

"Fantastic Alpine Adventure "

5
27/11/2016

Attended The Alpine Adventure with my colleagues from Office Depot. This is the fourth consecutive year we have had our team Christmas Party night and it get's better every year. What a fabulous night.Great choice of music and entertainment, games etc from Lloyd and his lovely dancers. Brilliant photo booth and ski machine. Food was lovely. There were 12 in my party and each and every person complimented the food. The ice cream bike was a great idea and the lovely Pepe never fails to entertain. Can't wait for Christmas 2017! Overnight stay - My husband and I stayed over as usual. Great room, very clean and lovely comfy bed and great breakfast. Went to breakfast with our friends that stayed over as well and we were looked after again by the lovely Pepe. He really is a credit to Smokies. Thanks all for a great night .Would highly recommend.

"Reasonable location and facilities but poor quality food."

3
27/11/2016

We stayed for one night to attend a local function at the Oldham Rugby Union Football Club ( Which was excellent), we decided to have dinner at the hotel but timing meant we had to order from the bar menu. The first course was salmon and prawns with lettuce and diced veg, it smelt like the lettuce had been washed and dried with a stale tea towel it was quite pungent but difficult to pinpoint, though the salmon tasted fine. My second course was gammon with egg which arrived absolutely nuked, dry, and tasteless. The egg had equally been overcooked and was like rubber and solid. We were already running late so ate what was edible and left the rest. My wife's meal soup and steak were Ok but nothing to write home about. We reported the disappointment on checkout and this was duly noted and I also left my contact e mail address to date I have had no apology. Which is indicative of a lack of customer care and concern, in my opinion. I have stayed at Best westerns all over the world including FRANCE, Italy and the UK and in fairness most have been very good franchised restaurants run at the higher end than cafe style. I guess we expected better?

"ANOTHER PLEASANT STAY"

4
26/11/2016

We have stayed at this hotel on a few occasions in recent years as it provides a good half-way venue at which to meet friends. As in the past, the room was clean and tidy and the bed comfortable. The bathroom is of an acceptable size, with a combined bath/shower. We ate in the restaurant, which was quite busy but the food, as in the past, was very good in quality and value. There was a boxing tournament taking place in the event room but this did not disturb our enjoyment of the evening.

"Charity boxing"

4
21/11/2016

Spent the afternoon and early evening at the Best Western hotel, Smokies for a charity boxing event hosted by Stealth boxing promotions in Nov 2016. Great venue, very hospitable staff, all in all a great day.

"Not a wedding review"

4
17/11/2016

I have stayed here a few time in connection with work. It seems as though the wedding side and functions are really pushed to the extreme. The food in the bar is hit and miss mostly miss and can take am age to arrive. Bar prices are steep. Room in comfrotable but dated and not for the first time I found 'adult' lubricant in the bathroom so not sure what the standard of cleaning is or what goes on in the room and I do not really want to know. To sum up if you can stay at a newish Premier Inn them do so

"Our wedding at Smokies"

5
15/11/2016

We really can't praise the staff and service highly enough! From the very first meeting with Sarah, the wedding coordinator, nothing was too much trouble to make sure our special day was perfect, even down to Sophie sewing a jewel back onto my wife's dress. On the day itself, Shaun was on hand to make sure everything ran smoothly, running through the order of things to make sure we knew what would happen, and when. Then, after the ceremony, he took us into the room to check we were happy with the layout and look of the room for the wedding breakfast and evening reception. Steph, the lady who dressed the room did a fantastic job, and the overall effect was stunning! Everybody said what a fantastic time they had, and we would highly recommend everybody get married at this amazing venue!

"Excellent Staff, comfortable hotel"

13/11/2016

The staff here are the outstanding feature, friendly, helpful and professional. There has been quite a bit of recent redecoration, giving the place an attractive contemporary style. My room was clean and bed very comfortable, so all in all a great stay. I travelled by train and used Stalybridge station, which has a taxi rank rather than the closer Ashton-Under-Lyme, which doesn't.

This hotel is comfortable, a little worn in places but the staff make up for any hotel comfort short comings. The breakfast range & quality are very good but again the highlight is the quality of the staff, all are friendly & have a professional manner. 3 nights I spent @ this hotel & yes I would return. Recommended.

My company booked me in here and what a pleasant experience. Staying in an executive room it was clean , spacious and quiet. I decided to eat in the hotel restaurant and the staff were polite and efficient. The food was superb, home made veg soup to start and rump of lamb with winter veg all cooked to perfection. A nightcap in the bar rounded off a lovely experience. This hotel is a credit to the Best Western network and i will defiantly choose here again if I'm in the area.

"OK hotel but problems with noise"

09/11/2016

Hotel is OK, staff generally helpful and rooms are fine. Parking is very tight but the biggest problem is noise. The hotel has a couple of function rooms and when they have parties the guests may not leave till the early hours of the morning. We couldn't get to sleep till 3:30 as people were talking outside in the car park and in the corridor.

The rooms and the hotel are great. My friends, family and I were staying up for a powerlifting competition and as such food was massively important to us. On all three nights, Ciara and Sophie served us and went above and beyond to ensure that our dietary needs were met. For this reason I am rating the hotel as very good and would like to pass on my thanks to them.

Dear Annjanette W Thank you so much for taking the time to review our hotel. I am so touched to hear how well the team looked after you and helped you with your dietary needs whilst competing in a the powerlifting competition. Also pleased that you liked the hotel and your bedroom. I shall pass on your kind comments to Ciara & Sophie who looked after you. Hope the competition went well Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

I have been planning our wedding at smokies for some time, the day eventually came this weekend. I stayed the night before with 12 of my girls on the executive floor. We were able to use the landing which was private on the third floor, I'd arranged for a buffet for us to be brought up on the landing and was looked after all night! The following morning they did a buffet breakfast which was perfect whilst we were all having hair and make up done! I had booked the executive wedding so we was the only ones to get married that day. I wanted my guest to be able to get rooms should they want to. I was taken downstairs to where the ceremony had been set up! I couldn't have been more impressed! It looked amazing! I could go on forever about every detail but in short! The staff the whole weekend were amazing, every single one of them! Sarah the wedding planner I can't thank enough for all your hard work, I will never forget how perfect you made our wedding! Stef (joyous moments). The decoration of our wedding although a little unconventional ?? was everything and more that I expected! The food, from the buffet I asked for on the Friday and Saturday through to the menu through the day was faultless! The buffet at night time was amazing! The bar staff and restaurant staff were the most accommodating and friendly! I can not tell you how super impressed Alan and I were at our fabulous wedding that you all played an amazing part in! Perfect is in understatement We thank you from the bottom of our hearts and cauldrons ??????????????xxx

25/10/2016

Booked a weekend at Smokies, for myself and my wife, I have been to this hotel two or three times previously for work, and I thought it would have made a nice weekend away, so I booked an executive room. Unfortunately I don't think the room allocated, 503, was any better than a standard room, the room was up two flights of stairs, no lift, it was nicely finished, but there was only one easy chair in the room it also lacked a table so not ideal for two people for the weekend. Being on the top floor the room also suffered from a sloping ceiling, so lost some of the effective size. The room also seemed beyond the range of the Hotel Wifi. There was also quiet a bit of noise, from other areas finding its way in to our room. The bathroom had some black mould, in the corners and a rusty towel rail, so again missed the ideal grade, although the water pressure was good, and hot water was plentiful. Downstairs there was a lounge bar, which was individually designed, in a sort of faux industrial style, if there is such a thing. The restaurant is separate to the main hotel it's Ok but nothing special, the menu promised more than it delivered and it seemed there were minor variations between the menu and what arrived on the plate, I have rated it higher on previous visits, so it may be the functions took precedent. However the second night there was the worst, we nearly, and in hindsight should have gone out to eat. There was an adult family group who shouted and swore through there meal, we could not get out of the restaurant soon enough, the young waitress did apologise, but could not, and I would not expect her to do anything about it.

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear fiftythousand Thank you for your review and I am sorry you were not as pleased as on previous visits. Our executive rooms offer superior decoration and furniture in a room on a private floor. These rooms are of different shapes and sizes but all are superior to our standard rooms. I of course will make sure all maintenance issues are addressed and would like to thank you for bringing them to my attention and am sorry they were not addressed before you stayed. Sorry to hear of your experience in the restaurant being spoilt by the other parties behaviour. I will be feeding this back to all the management team as I will not tolerate such behaviour and this will be addressed going forward. Thank you for the feedback Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

We booked this hotel because of the price and wanted a hotel to stop in the night before we flew. Around 1.00an we was woken up buy a group of people making a lot of noise this seemed to go on for a few hours . When told staff the following morning about that they seemed aware of this but nothing happened to control the noise.Apart from this hotel was nice for the price paid.

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear Mark W Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel and I am so sorry to hear about your disturbed sleep. We do have a dedicated night team to look after our guests and they do try their best to manage our guests noisy behaviour but this can prove difficult when too much drink has been consumed. I would always urge our guests to contact the night team straight away if they have an issue during the night, giving them the opportunity to help. I am pleased you liked the hotel and found it good value for money. Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

"The good, the bad and the ugly... "

16/10/2016

Here for a 40th birthday party down the road. The hotel looks nice from the outside. The staff on reception were very nice. Our room was large and the bed was surprisingly comfy. The water was hot. Although the light in the bedroom was dim as a glow worms armpit in the bathroom it was pretty good. The tea bags in the room resulted in a lovely cuppa this morning. When we pointed out there was only one bag and one pack of biscuits were were given as many as we needed. The parking is tight when they are fully booked. We can't comment on the bar as there was a boxing celebration/presentation/tournament going on and we didn't fancy it. We didn't eat here either. Our room was located over the entrance to the bar and it was very, very noisy. We had asked for an upgrade or move but they were full... Clean? The bed linen was. The bathroom wasn't enhanced by the grubby grout, rust on the towel rail and a hair or two (not ours) around the edge of the bath. Infact the bathroom is truly horrid. It's a 1970s plastic modular design in cream not enhanced by the cigarette burn on the side of the sink. The carpets, furniture, fixtures and fittings are all awful. Old, worn and ugly. If you wanted to sit on the sofa to watch TV you can't...its behind the telly. This is on the shortest bracket in the world which means it can't be angled properly. All in all the 'Best' should be removed from the title. If this is the best God help the worst! This place is so overdue an upgrade and refurb I don't know how they can justify the £66 room only, to stay for the night. I'm thinking the newTravel Lodge up the road looks good and I hate Travel Lodges! Get your finger out Best Western... Your staff and customers deserve better!

Dear Liz Q Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel and I am so sorry to hear that you were less than satisfied. We have invested strongly in the hotel over the 5 years that I have been manager but it will always be an on going job. I am sorry that the room you had needs attention but I can promise you it will get it. We have just been through a major renovation of the hotel bar and will now move our attention back to the bedrooms. On a positive note all staff were pleasant and friendly. The hotel however was unacceptable. We stayed 2 nights and had trouble getting parking both nights. We had room service with raw hamburgers. We had cold showers and on day 2 had to ring for toilet paper. Also noise from reception on night 1 and patrons leaving pub attached was annoying.

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear Lesleyann247 Thank you for your review and I am so sorry that you felt we only deserved such a low rating. I am not sure if you are aware but we do have an overflow car park next to the hotel, which holds an additional 100 spaces when we are so busy. I shall be discussing your feedback about your meal as this is totally unacceptable and I am truly sorry as this just should not happen. I am pleased you felt all the team were pleasant and friendly. Thank you for making me aware as it really helps us improve. Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

Stayed here as a last minute thing, I general try to avoid best western & Britannia hotels due to the fact that they are usually outdated! Upon arrival there were plenty of free parking, we were greeted my a lovely reception team who explained everything that we needed to know! Room - first thoughts... dark grim and HOT! Where is your air con?????!!!!!! This is the only reason why I have given the 3/5 rating! Other than that nice little hotel.

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear Lolly776 Thank you for reviewing your stay with us. To be honest I used to feel the same about BEST WESTERN and Britannia hotels as I as a customer had the same opinions. I joined BEST WESTERN Smokies Park 5 years ago after a long period with another hotel chain. I have to say that I have really enjoyed working for the brand as they give you such freedom to be individual rather than just a corporate robot. Here at Smokies Park we have worked very hard to make our hotel stand out and we have invested so much money and time to make it a great place to stay. I feel that it goes against the stereotype that you mentioned about our hotels being dated but we are aware that we must always improve. I am sorry that we do not have air con but we are always reviewing where best to invest next, so will take your feedback on board. I was so pleased you liked the amount of car parking space and that you received a warm welcome. I do hope we see you again Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

"Disappointing restaurant"

02/10/2016

Stayed last week in this hotel. On arrival the hotel looked OK and staff were pleasant and efficient with booking me to my room. The room itself was nice, clean and well serviced all week. The down side of the hotel was the fishy smell in the bar area, corridor leading to the bar (I suspect this is why there were several auto air fresheners on the corridor wall) and poor service in the main restaurant. Portions on the food were very hit and miss with one meal having a substantially larger pudding than the main meal!!. Good job though or I would have been hungry! Breakfast was also hit and miss with one day being virtually cold from the buffet style server. Staff serving were young and not very customer focussed. Ordering of meals and service to the table were ok but certain members of staff just seem to walk back and forth for no apparent reason or would stand for lengthy periods admiring each other! There was a bin, broom and shovel left adjacent to a dining table for three days but these had obviously not seen any action by the amount of debris round the edges of the restaurant. One evening I thought we had a celebrity chef Ie:Gordon Ramsey in the kitchen with the amount of verbal abuse that floated across the restaurant for some considerable time. A large party were given the run of the restaurant for my last two evenings taking up,most of the floor area and tables. All other residents were "allowed"to use the tables squeezed into the dark corners and up against the bar. My final point is a quite bizarre breakfast with three members of staff standing to my left and within two feet of my table shouting their conversation to a resident who was obviously a regular resident over the top of my head to a table on the other side of the room to my right. Must have had my Harry Potter invisibility cloak on that day!

I stay at Smokies on a regular basis and while it may not be the most glamourous hotel you'll ever stay in, everyone is friendly and willing to help. The Restaurant does a job and a decent breakfast. Fair point some have made about not enough bodies behind the bar during busy periods.

"One of the better Best Westerns in the North West"

5
21/09/2016

Smokies park hotel certainly looks a lot more 'premium' than other BW's I've stayed in over the North West, with a well presented Reception, and friendly staff ready to assist! I believe the hotel bar has just been newly refurbished, and its extremely inviting to enjoy a cold pint after a long day, and the restaurant just off the bar was pretty damn good! Me and a friend both had starters, mains, a drink each, and it only came to £30! We were definitely impressed by the quality of the food for the cost! The lady manager at the hotel is also extremely helpful, and will stop and have a chat if you're outside in the smoking area, very pleasant and a credit to the hotel :) The only thing I could say from my stay that could do with improving, is the benefits that rewards members receive on check in. As a diamond member (and having earned my status the hard way), I was not offered a recognition award, or the chance of a room upgrade, or any acknowledgement of my reward status. I know I'm probably being picky, but I know other BW's offer this. Saying that. The standard rooms are more than spacious for a business traveller, my only tip would be to try and get a room that doesn't have two single beds pushed together, it can be a tad uncomfortable. Parking Tip: If possible, get to the carpark before 5pm, otherwise you may struggle to get a parking space, as many business people return to the hotel after 5 :)

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear huwrobs Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel and it was so nice to hear how much you enjoyed your stay. We are always investing in our hotel and the bar has been our most recent refurbishment. The new bar opened a few weeks ago and has been so well received by our guests. I was also pleased that you enjoyed your evening mean and you found it good value for money. I am sorry that you were not offered a benefit reward on check or an upgrade. We normally put the reward in your room in advance and I can only presume that we had no superior rooms available to offer you as they are very popular. I shall pass your feedback to the reception manager to make sure she is aware of the situation. I do hope we see you again soon Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

"Smoking hot bar prices"

19/09/2016

Just about managed to park up in the much trumpeted FREE CAR PARK! - I thought all hotel car parks were free? Hotel is more like a business conference facility than a family hotel and is very much run in a business-like fashion. The rooms are ok - nothing special but the tea / coffee making facilities are straight out of 1950's Blackpool landlady land. The food is okay - the breakfast was fine. The Bar Prices are ridiculously expensive - £16.40 odd for a couple of lagers and a G&T - when challenged I was told that "it's because you had a double", which worked out at something like £9.00 - kind of took the shine off the wedding we attended; 100 people all spending about £50 plus on drinks - £5,000 behind the bar che ching! Also I had to leave the room we are in to get the lager because they didn't have it on the bar in the room! Perhaps nobody thought any of the 100 or so people would want any? The advertising of future events was relentless and everywhere, it was hard to escape the hard sell. Probably the last time I ever see this hotel but it has made me think to remember to avoid Best Western Hotels on my travels.

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear Dembocheatalot Thank you for your mixed review and for your insight into the running of a hotel. Firstly I would like to get my trumpet out about our free car park. I have worked at many hotels that either have a very small car park, an NCP next door charging between £10- £15 for over night parking. I feel that the fact we have enough free parking for all our guests is a really good facility. Glad that you found the rooms ok but must assure all readers of this review that all our tea/coffee making facilities come from an industry leader who supplies many of the large hotel chains. I was also pleased that you had no issues with your evening meal or breakfast. I would like to say that we are always reviewing our bar prices to make sure we are competitive with other hotels in the area. We offer a varied drinks menu, which demonstrates plenty of choice to meet all guests budgets. To be fair, drinking double spirits is not the cheapest option and I am not a fan of offering doubles at a very cheap price as it does not meet with my culture of being drink aware. We want our guests to have a good time but feel responsible not to encourage excessive measures in one glass. Your budget of £50 per head being spent by all the guests is some distance from the actual facts. This on average would be about 10 to 13 drinks on top of the wine included during the day. I am sorry the lager was not available in the function room you were in but due to the set up of the hotel, line cleaning and the fact the rooms are not in use every day means that not every drink is on offer. That said we have a large selection including lagers in all our function rooms. I am pleased you noticed the wide variety of events that take place at our hotel, including our fantastic Christmas parties which are selling fast. Sorry to be direct but I am very proud of our hotel and feel many of your comments were not rounded views. I am very quick to admit when we get things wrong but on this occasion don't feel there is much to address. Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

"My 80th Birthday Party"

14/09/2016

I had my 80th birthday party here in the Medlock Suite on Friday 9th September. The room was arranged in a really nice and clean condition with plenty of room for the 15 round tables. I arranged 6 bedrooms for friends who were travelling a distance and they were all very pleased with the room and the good breakfast. The catering for the party was first class in quality and quantity and was enjoyed by everybody, many going back for seconds. Overall an excellent event, made even better by the friendly and helpful staff. Would recommend.

"Wedding Blessing"

09/09/2016

We were married at Easter in Cuba with a few of our family and friends but decided to celebrate at home with a church blessing and celebration. We knew how amazing Smokies was for a wedding because our daughter had hers there so we thought we'd hold our own party there too. Sarah Leather our wedding coordinator was brilliant, she and the team from smokies went above and beyond for us, all our ideas and wishes were catered for, from cocktails on arrival for us and all our guests, to Cuban drummers and dancers. We were in our elements, the food was perfect and those afore mentioned cocktails were on point!! Making our celebration one we shall never forget. Sarah, Sophie, Peppe, along with the buffet guy and cocktail master who's names I can't remember were so attentive throughout our stay, we were totally stress free and able to enjoy every last minute of our celebration. We would 100% advise anyone to hold their wedding here, Smokies are fabulous and you wouldn't be disappointed, I only wish I could do it again but I've already had two weddings, a third would be greedy.... Who knows :)

Why can't you get your menus and food right. 1.5 hours wait for substandard food, to which the duty manager admitted he didnt even know what my starter was supposed to be!!! He freely admitted he didn't know the menu or did the chefs and as for my main course I I received chili on nan bread instead of flat bread and minus trimmings, including coleslaw and fries. Words fail me as to what I experienced tonight!! A complete debacle!!!

My friend had her wedding here on the 28th of August the day was beautiful, the rooms was lovely very clean the staff was more than five star, especially Sophie rothwell who worked so hard making sure everything was perfect and the day was beautiful she went up and beyond and I cannot fault one thing, she was on hand for everything, she is an absolute credit to smokies and made the bride to be day with all the little touches she did, also reception and housekeeping worked so hard to get all the guest checked in, even though they had a wedding the night before the rooms were all ready on time, the wedding meal was piping hot even though they had 75 seated to eat the meal was delicious and once again cannot fault one thing, overall the day was beautiful and would highly recommend. Wedding day was great but unfortunately the wedding meal was terrible. From quess the soup flavour (apparently it was leek and potato) to the rubber chicken and frozen veg and also frozen profiteroles. One glass of wine to which they didn't even leave the bottles on the table and the obviously under trained staff. Sorry smokies you really let the day down all I can say is I'm glad I didn't pay for it.

Stay here a lot on business and stayed again last week for 2 nights. Rooms are good BUT the reservation system is awful. The newly refurbished bar is unusual with Edison bulbs and really nice staff. We have multiple staff staying here and in the last couple of months we have had bookings wrong, wrong dates, no rooms etc. So if you book here I'd advise checking before you stay to ensure there is a room for you, on one occasion I arrived, no room, no space so they had to get me in another(better) accommodation. this week the restaurant was horrible, I ordered the makerel starter and it smelled off, the potato base was at best look warm and cold in the centre, the Diane sauce with my steak was like cream coloured milk with a couple of pieces of mushroom added. My colleagues pork Belly which was served on almost cold spring onion mash, his steak was overdone and served with Diane sauce that looked like gravy and the second attempt was little better if at all better, so much so he left both and went to a local shop to buy a chilled pasta bowl. This hotel needs to buck up as we are now looking at alternative accommodation in the area. I do feel sorry for most of the staff as they are friendly and try but the entire establishment needs new or better management.

Would be a fairer reflection. Not quite a 4 but not a 3 either. Good, friendly and efficient check in and out. Room was functional, apart from the TV which was poor reception due to some work on the Winter hill transmitter apparently. Fortunately there was a few of us staying so i wasn't in the room much anyway. Room was functional and clean with a large comfortable bed. Big bar area with large TV's. These didn't suffer with reception issues and were handy as the Olympics were on - if you like the Olympics of course! Restaurant was nice - breakfast was good, buffet style but can order some fresh options if desired. Only ate 1 night but again the food was good and reasonably priced. Friendly helpful staff in all areas.

So stayed for Three nights earlier this month with work. The room was on the ground floor overlooking the car park at the front. I wanted to have the window open but the restrictor was broken meaning it would have been possible to climb in the room if I'd left it open. Massive bed which was very comfortable. Didn't turn the TV on although there was a note saying the picture might be poor owing to work on the local Winter Hill TV mast! So all things considered the room was functional and okay. Nothing special but okay. A big plus was the staff, especially the reception staff who were always polite and helpful. Service in the bar was slow, usually one person trying to manage a queue of customers wanting a drink before their dinner. We had private dining in a function room that was partly decorated for a wedding. The first night the food was dreadful. Pie and chips. No healthy options. Bowl of lettuce appeared towards the end of the meal. Soup but no side plates for bread roll. Pudding was a waffle with squirts cream. We complained and obtained a refund. Next night much better. Roast beef dinner or vegetable lasagne, really tasty. So all in all it was okay. Just okay. Didn't go for a culinary experience. Maybe the food in the a la carte restaurant is better?

"My Wedding"

20/08/2016

Well what can I say me and my new wife had our wedding here on the 12th Aug 16. From start to finish I can honestly say it was the best day of my life. The staff are so friendly and helpful and really can't do enough for you everything seems no trouble to them. I would especially like to thank Sarah Leather who organised, planned and helped me and my new wife with every last detail for the big day she was an absolute star and a credit to Smokies and I would definitely recommend her to any of my friends if they are getting married. I would also like to thank Sophie who was the duty manager on the day. She also could not do enough for us from doing master of ceremonies duties to making sure our glasses were always topped up and generally helping the day run so smoothly. She is also a credit to Smokies and along with the Smokies team I really can't thank you all enough. I will be recommending BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park to everyone I know as a fantastic wedding venue and hotel. Thank you all again. Peter Riley

"Nice little hotel for a work overnight stay"

18/08/2016

Another work overnight and a meeting close by. Smokies was ideally located for the short journey the following morning. I chose to stay here as it has a small gym, not the best gym in the world but sufficient to get a workout in. Definatly value for money and I would certainly stay here again.

"Super hotel"

15/08/2016

Stayed overnight and was very impressed with this hotel. The staff were very friendly and the bedroom was very nicely decorated, as was the hotel generally. Also the breakfast was super, with all sorts of choices. The hotel is in very nice surroundings and although near to a main road, there was no noise from the road. Will stay here again.

Very nice Hotel and the staff are fantastic. The only down side really is the cost of food and drink. For what you pay you expect top notch food but I think it's quite basic (Just my opinion) Worth a visit though

"Disappointed Best Western Rewards Member"

04/08/2016

Having stayed before we decided to stay again while renovating our Oldham property. We booked the last room which was a twin Whilst we did not specifically request a ground floor room we were pleased to get one and since it was the last room available how could anything go wrong ? Upon arrival we were told it was not on the ground floor and that no notes to that effect was on the booking [was I a liar or what ?] We accepted the non-ground floor room only because there was a lift [my partner has poorly knees]. Despite telling them immediately that the TV was not working it was still not working after a 2 night stay - a lazy Sunday morning in bed watching the telly was not to be :-( We even had to phone down for tea spoons - no attention to detail. Whilst it was nice to get a discount on the room I would have preferred to receive the Best Western Service to which I have become accustomed over the many years I have been a Rewards Member - Come on Smokies pull your finger out or drop the BW logo.

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear Paul G Thank you for your review of our hotel and for choosing to stay a second time. I am sorry about your room being on the second floor but am pleased you found the lift a suitable solution to this. In terms of your TV not working, we have been in constant communication with the company that control the signal that have been carrying out major maintenance work for the whole of Oldham, which was out of our control but very frustrating for us and our guests. I do hope this does not put you of staying with us again Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

We choose this hotel, because it was close to family who live nearby in Manchester. When we arrived there was a wedding reception going on and we really thought nothing about it. We went out to see family and on arrival the wedding reception was still going on and loud. The room that we had been allocated was facing the wedding reception and the music was really really loud. The reception desk told us the music would be going on until 1o'clock in the morning. We went down to the reception desk to say that we weren't happy. They did try to place us into another room, but there was another wedding reception going on and you could hear the thumping of the base music and that would be going on until 12:30 in the morning. So we stayed where we were, and told that they would move us the next day. Which they did and our second night was much better. The lesson learn't here was to ask for a room far from the two wedding receptions the next time we stay. Ideally it would be great if the hotel enquirer if the guests were with the wedding parties and allocate the rooms accordingly. The breakfast was excellent, I could not fault it.very enjoyable. Overall we would be happy to stay there again the next time we are up.

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear David S Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel and I am pleased that the team looked after you to help resolve your issues. We do try our best to allocate our guests in the best possible place that are not attending an event that is taking place in the hotel and I am sorry that on your first night your experienced some noise. Thank you for your kind comments about our breakfast and I was pleased to hear that you would be happy to stay again. Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

"Typical Best Western Hotel"

Not much to say on this one except it is the usual Best Western. Good value for money with generally a well appointed Hotel. My room though 308 had an large hot water pipe which was like having the central heating on all night!

"Ideal for 2 to 3 nights"

It's a good spot to be staying whilst visting around the Ashton/Manchester area, quick access to Motorway. Basic but clean accommodation. Room was in a quiet location, as requested & didn't hear other guests.

"Nice place"

25/07/2016

Stayed here more than once and it's always ok. Rooms are comfy and modern and I've never had anything to complain about. The restaurant always does great food and breakfasts. Plus it's in an ideal spot for getting around that side of Manchester without getting bogged down in traffic. Once again always a pleasure to stay

"The business for business travellers"

5
21/07/2016

I stayed a couple of weeks back, a hurried get in shower eat bed up out, but this time I am here for a couple of days. I booked an available exec room and it's just great, spotless as is the rest of the hotel and everything I need to work and relax. Breakfast is buffet style, hot plenty of it and choices of cooked, continental, fruits everything's I could want, again served well and with a smile. I ate in the bar for one meal and the food was piping hot and very good, bar staff are attentive and chatty, all the better for the business traveller on their own. The staff in the hotel really do want to be here, their passion and service quality is rare and they have it in spades, a great asset to the hotel. Tonight I chose the restaurant to eat in, and ordered the Rump steak hand cut chips and green beans with a pot of Garlic and Thyme sce. Steaks are a personal thing, everyone's way is different as is rare, medium etc. The chef has got my choice spot on, full of flavour cooked really well, hand cut chips were to die for and the beans just crunchy enough, spot on. I'm here again for two more days next week and I am looking forward to the food already. Great place for the business traveller, I will recommend this place to everyone.

We had a meal at Smokies on Saturday 16th July 2016. We had the Mezzanine starter for two which was very good. Our main meal was the Monster Burger and Thai King Prawn Linguini which was excellent followed by the house wine which was very good. We shall be going back very soon. Mr & Mrs Pollard

Nice hotel in Oldham perfect if you are in business in the city. Nice bar area and good food plus service is always good. Even has a little gym area you can use. I would recommend this hotel if you are in the area on business. Breakfast was particularly good.

Very quiet for a Saturday night which is a shame because the food is lovely and reasonably priced. There is a good atmosphere and the staff are very attentive. Good sized portions. My husband was bested by the triple decker burger. Well worth a visit.

We stayed here for one night for a concert. I would definitely stay again, it was £13 in a taxi to Manchester centre. I cant comment on the food but the room was nice. Reception staff were really helpful & there is a nice big bar area where we sampled a few drinks :-)

"Food fine - service terrible"

2
27/06/2016

A dozen of us (ish) stayed here two weeks ago for 4/5 nights. The hotel was fine but the restaurant was very poor. The service was so slow that one night it took 3 hours from being seated to receiving dessert. When it arrived it was cold and the steaks were hit and miss as to how you wanted them cooked. On several occasions the breakfast buffet was stone cold!

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear Gaynor O Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel and I am so sorry to hear of the issues you experienced. I take all feedback on board but such comments are so rare that I find it hard to explain. I would expect a meal for 12 to take about 2.5 hours as groups like to socialise and don't like to be rushed. We will always do our best for our guests and am sorry that you had reason to complain. Please be assured that we take all feedback very seriously and thrive to get better. Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

Fantastic can't complain with the money or staff or anything apart from some of the bar staff who were rude everybody else were great and same again next year for me. Which will make it 3 years on the trot. The rooms are adequate and the bar and restaurant are more than ample for the price I payed

"Great Place For A City Break"

12/06/2016

Reception was very friendly and efficient. Room was a decent size, with good facilities, and clean. Breakfast was very good. Plenty of choice, nicely presented, great coffee and pleasant surroundings. The bar staff were also very friendly, and bar food was good. Overall a pleasant 3 nights were spent in this hotel. The only negative is the Catery next door. It stinks. While we were staying, it was very warm in the evening. We opened the room windows, but quickly had to close them due tot he smell. We went for a walk to Daisy Nook Park nearby, and walked past the Catery. The smell made my wife gag. I would visit again, but wouldn't open the windows.

"Etihad stadium"

11/06/2016

Went to a concert at the etihad stadium. The reception ordered us a saloon car style taxi £12 in to Manchester centre bars near to arndale shopping centre. A nice hotel easy to get to. We didn't have breakfast so can't comment.

"Lovely staff and stay !"

06/06/2016

On arrival we were greeted by happy friendly staff who gave us info such as where restaurant and bar were and traffic light system at breakfast. Our room was large bright and clean, free soap and bath toiletries ( always a bonus) and tissues. We went to bar one and Sophie behind the bar was extremely lovely and helpful chatting to us which made us feel extra comfortable, we enjoyed a lovely meal at reasonable price. We went to the Coldplay concert at the etihad stadium, the hotel arranged a taxi for our trip that was reasonably priced £10 on our return we had a comfortable night sleep, although the room was very Walm so I had to open the window as we couldn't see a thermostat on the radiator but that wasn't a problem really. The next morning we were up at 7.45 to go for breakfast for 8 am opening when we got there we were alone with several members of staff Sophie and Connor who made us feel very welcome again there were several others but I'm not sure of there names but they were all helpful, Connor made us laugh ! If we travel to Oldham again we will defiantly return, thank you for a lovely stay team.

The hotel staff are so friendly and eager to make sure we are looked after. Our bedroom was well furnished with a large comfortable bed. It was so quiet even though there were weddings on over the weekend. We were not disturbed at all. The food was excellent with a good variety to choose from.

"GOOD HOTEL"

We overnighted at this hotel as a means of conveniently meeting friends. The accommodation was comfortable with a reasonably spacious bathroom and we had a pleasant night chatting in the bar. The staff were helpful and friendly and we will probably return.

"The very best, Best Western"

5
26/05/2016

I have been coming here for years and I also stay in many hotels around the country for work, most of them Best western. Of all of them Smokies is my favourite! The rooms are clean and comfortable especially the executive ones which are well priced. The crowning glory is the restaurant [email protected] I always have the sirloin steak. I ask for it medium rare and guess what it comes medium rare! Most chefs don't seem to know how to cook steaks and often over cook them so they go dry and like shoe leather! Smokies Chef cooks them to perfection and very succulent. The only issue I have is that you get the choice of 2 sides included. When you order "Roast Tomatoes & Mushrooms" (note Plural) you get one mushroom and half a tomato. If you order "Onion rings" you get a bowl of 10! I have never been able to work this out. If you order them as extra sides (more than the 2 included) the one mushroom and half tomato costs £2.50! Come on Smokies thats really not fair! The other problem is they used to do Lamb Koftas as a starter - they vanished off the menu some time ago, they were the best starter! I forgive all this so long as the steaks stay the same!! All the staff are lovely, very friendly.

"Go there twice a year every year"

22/05/2016

Very smart hotel the staff are very helpful. Breakfast s OK if you get up early enough. Do not leave it to the last minute and expect to get a super breakfast, it is a buffet. The rooms are very comfortable and you can have use of the sauna and steam room. Best to book this as you check in so the staff can get them up and running for when you are ready. Overall well worth the visit and a reasonable price. I have stayed at this hotel mainly on weekends and occasionally in the week. Never had any problems.

"Dont bother at the moment"

1
14/05/2016

We went for a drink at the Best Western, got to the bar: no signs and walked straight into a building site, no one said anything to us, not even the cleaner who was stood starring at us, so we walked up the corridor and found a member of staff whom then took us into what looked like someone s conference to be served drinks, not very professional at all. Would of been nice if there were signs around to explain that a refurb was happening or even a member of staff to ask if we were ok. But nothing.

"Comfortable "

4
10/05/2016

Stayed at this hotel for one night during a visit to the area. I found the staff very pleasent and the rooms were up to standard and a massive comfy bed. Bearing in mind there was two functions on the go there was no noise or rowdiness as you can come to expect. The only issue was in the residents bar you had guests spelling out from the functions into the area, but I imagine Sunday to Thursday this isn't an issue. Breakfast was nice but the room could probably do with a lick of paint. I would stay at this hotel again.

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear James W Thank you for choosing to stay with us and I am so pleased that you enjoyed your visit. I am so pleased that you had a quiet nights sleep when we had 2 functions on in the hotel. I had a very comfortable stay. there was a wedding on but I was not disturbed by noise. The breakfast was tasty and cheerfully served. The sausages were very good. The wifi is free and fast. the bed was big and comfortable, the shower hot, the room clean and although "standard"; bed, TV, chair, desk etc was very acceptable. Just down the road is Bardsley canal which was perfect for a run. Hotel staff welcoming and helpful.

01/05/2016

Our son lives in Ashton and we spent a weekend at Smokies Park whilst visiting. On arrival we were told there was a wedding therefore we would be put on the other side of the hotel as it would be quieter. Lovely big room, very clean. The restaurant served good food and Peppe Gambolini, duty manager, was excellent. Very attentive, caring and had a lovely sense of humour. A good place to stay and very reasonably priced.

29/04/2016

I had emailed the hotel to ask for a quiet room as I'm not a very good sleeper. They booked me into room 115 which was a family room. Very peaceful until around midnight when a dog started barking outside somewhere every half an hour. The room decor wasn't in bad condition and the bathroom seemed very new, my only problem with it was the toilet. I'm average height and my feet didn't touch the ground when sat on it and if you have kids be very careful with the bath water temperature, I could have filled a cup and put a teabag in it. SCOLDING. I had my meal in the Cromford bar, decent pint and very nice meal.

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear Stv66 Thank you for your feedback and I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed your visit. I am sorry that the toilet was too high for you and that the water was too hot, which I shall investigate. We held our company annual awards here on Friday the 22nd April, we booked the Crompton Suite, the staff are AMAZING and extremely helpful, Andrea is a fantastic organiser and certainly went the extra mile and so did Pepe and the all of the staff - great team, The whole event from beginning to end was fabulous, the majority of the people attending the event stayed over, all of the rooms including triple and twin rooms were excellent and the sit down meal and buffet in the evening was perfect. We had the DJ and Casino package and what a great night was had by all, extremely good value and the friendly family feel to the whole event was exceptional. Certainly be returning

The overall impression of the hotel was very good, there were a couple of items that had to be addressed because they were not working correctly, however all in all it was good for the price we paid. "Hotel for a match at the Etihad stadium "

4
02/04/2016

We booked this hotel for one night to watch a rugby World Cup match. The drive from the hotel to the stadium took about 20 minutes and the hotel was easy to find. There was a large free car park. My husband and I stayed in an executive double and our children were in a standard double. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. The executive room had a desk and chair which the standard didn't have and was slightly larger than the standard as would be expected but the standard was still a good size. Our bathroom had a good shower and the room was quiet. The executive rooms are on a higher floor at the back of the hotel which overlooked an industrial looking site. There was no noise from this but it was a Saturday. There was a wedding on and the children could hear it from their room. In the morning when we went down to see the children there were clothes, male & female, strewn all along the corridor. My husband used the running machine in the gym in the morning. The reception staff was friendly and helpful. We didn't have breakfast there as it seemed expensive and so went for breakfast in Manchester centre instead. I would go back if we visited the Etihad again but wouldn't bother with the executive as the difference between the two didn't seem worth the difference in money.

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear JanieBS1 Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. I am pleased you found your rooms clean and comfortable and of a good standard. "Great hotel"

28/03/2016

I booked a room at the hotel as a treat to myself whilst attending Soul Boutique All-Dayer. I rang in advance to enquirer about booking a double room on single occupancy & was told that this was not a problem. I had a slight problem trying to program the hotel into my sat-nav (the postcode for the hotel is for Ashton Road which apparently numbers from 1 - 1043 & the hotel doesn't actually have a number on Ashton Road! However I resolved this by programming my sat-nav for the junction of Ashton Road & Bardsley Vale Avenue which took me straight to the hotel ??) The hotel has ample car-parking around the hotel site with an over-spill car park to the side for larger events. The reception area is clean, modern & welcoming as were the reception staff on duty. I checked in & was directed to my room on the second floor & was pleasantly surprised to find that my "standard double room" was extremely spacious & bright & contained a super-King size bed (can be split into two singles) & a double bed settee. There was also a large double wardrobe, large dressing table with drawer & cupboard storage, large wall mounted tv & bedside storage either side of the bed. The room also had tea/coffee making facilities & ironing board, iron, hairdryer etc. The bathroom was bright & clean with a full size bath & overhead shower, heated towel rail with a good supply of clean towels & complimentary toiletries. The hotel itself is bright, clean & comfortable & all the staff were extremely friendly & welcoming. The soul event was held in the Medlock Suite which is a beautiful room. Despite staying at the hotel during a busy musical event I didn't hear any noise from the function suite nor from any of the other residents rooms within the hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel for its accommodation, facilities & staff.

Dear BestieB Thank you so much for your review and I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and the event you attended. My family,13 of us, were staying here for the weekend. I was a solo visitor and my expectations of having a nice room were low,as I had heard that solo meant not nice. I was pleasantly surprised,as I was given a lovely room which was the same as my family had. The appeared to have been refurbished recently and were bright and airy and well epuipped with everything one should need. There was wifi which was very good. We were all given rooms on the same floor, which was helpful. The staff were friendly and helpful.

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear 456 Chrissied Thank you for your review of our hotel and I pleased that we exceeded your expectations as a solo guest. We do not treat solo guests any different and I am glad that you liked your room and were pleased that you were all on the same floor, which we do try and do when we know that there is a group staying with us. Hope you and your family come back for another reunion. Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

Not got a good word to say about this Hotel.... Bar very expensive, food very poor, and if your unlucky enough like me you will get a room beside the bar area...Very Very noisey.... 00:15 on a Friday morning people singing and shouting in the smoking area..which is right outside my window.!!!! 0/10

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear Graeme R Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel and I am so sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us. We do normally get good feedback but always appreciate comments that are not good. We do try our best to keep our bar prices competitive compared to other hotels and always review them to make sure we have options for our guests. I am sorry that you were kept awake by noise from other guests. We do have a night team that are on call to look after our guests and who always advise that they are called upon to deal with such incidents. Thanks again for letting me know Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

We visited this hotel as a base while on business in Manchester. The hotel was fantastic. The rooms very clean and comfortable and the staff exceptionally friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel and would love to stay there again some day.

The absolute best thing about this hotel is Diane who works tirelessly behind the bar ensuring guests are served promptly but with a human touch. She's brilliant and a real gem and an excellent ambassador for the hotel. Hotel itself is ok and fine for a short stay whether for business or pleasure.

we booked again at smokies for closeness , and overall the staff are fantastic, they will try and try for u at all times, cant fault the staff at all, only thing was we never see a senior/manager to resolve a problem, as we had to move 2 times on our stay to find a room with hot water, but hey we found one, the pillows on this occasion were poor, but last time they were fantastic ! ..also painting/gloss work was going on, and I thought we could of been put in a different wing, but no apologies' from management, or a complimentary drink!!..we did have snow also, and the effort was very slow for guests, this should have been salted quick, health and safety!!.. food in restaurant very good, and staff excellent too..also its nice for staff to tell u if there are any big events at the hotel.. again management!!

I have stay away about 3 nights a week and have stayed in many hotels in the UK. I arrived late to this hotel and first this hotel that did not have my booking. This is the first time this has ever happened with LateRooms, I do not blame LateRooms this will be Best Western's issue. The night manger on duty was very helpful and was able to assist me. I then checked into the room it was freezing, so I turned on the radiator and got into bed hoping it would warm up. When I woke up in the morning the radiator was on but the temp. was very low and made the room very cold, annoying but no issue I thought I would have a warm shower. NO Warm water at all . So I could not have a shave or shower. The water was slightly warm so this hotel obviously has turned down the temp on the thermostat. Spoke to reception and they acted surprised which is rubbish there is other comments here stating the same issue. If you want to stay in a cold room with no hot water stay in this hotel.

Been staying on and off at smokies for nearly 3 months on a smart metering gas course at Oldham college. Food very good, staff pleasant and helpful, accommodation very good. Compared to a few premier inn s l've stayed at, smokies is a golden palace. Would 100% recommend for a good stay. TM

Stayed a couple of weeks for a training course. Oldham is a little off the beaten track, not really family or holiday territory. Hotel is typical business establishment and handy for Manchester. Room was good sized, excellent bed, free wifi & TV, Tea/ Coffee etc. Food was excellent, I usually ate in the bar. Desk staff & house staff were friendly, The girl who booked me in could put a smile on a traffic wardens' face..... Downside, well its Oldham, not a honeymoon destination. Large screen TV in bar shows 24 hr football, which seems to be a local affliction. Happy to stay again, if only they could move it south....

04/03/2016

We chose to stay at this hotel as we were volunteering at an event early on the Sunday morning at the Etihad stadium. Manchester city centre hotels were a ridiculous price for the night as there was a couple of large events on. Smokies was very reasonable on price and easy to get to. Service was second to none from the moment we walked through the door till the morning we left. Our room was very clean and decor was good. Obviously from the 'wet paint' signs in the corridor that there is some 'sprucing' going on which is a good sign and shows that the owners try to keep the place ship shape. We ate in the restaurant on the Saturday night as, due to a function, we couldn't find space at the bar. Although the menu is limited, the prices aren't bad and portions were plentiful. Again great service with a smile. So all in all if you're looking for a hotel that doesn't break the bank in the Manchester/Oldham area this is a great choice.

"Alternative option when no hotels available in Manchester"

01/03/2016

We traveled to Manchester recently. There were no affordable hotels left in the city due to a big sports event, so we had to look further away from Manchester. The Smokies Park hotel came up, and we gave it a go. It's about 7 miles from the centre of Manchester. Friendly staff at the reception. Very quiet rooms.Bathroom looked a bit dated, but clean. Good breakfast selection. Free WiFi. Easy parking. Enjoyed a chat with one of the managers, Peppe, while having drinks at the hotel bar.

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear Michael H I am sorry you were unable to stay in the city centre but pleased that it meant you got to try us out. We do get a lot of guests staying with us for this reason and then find they return next time they are in the area. What we offer over the city centre hotels more often than not a cheaper price, a free car park, free wifi, less noise due to our location and a fantastic friendly local team. I shall pass on your kind comments to the team and have already informed Peppe. Hope you choose us next time. Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

"Excellent, although some problems with breakfast"

29/02/2016

Not too many good hotels in this area and this one was very good, A very spacious well appointed room. A few oddities - I have never seen a lavatory bowl so high. Nor have I seen a hotel threatening in its conditions to confiscate any alcohol found in rooms. The breakfast room was the main restaurant and attractive. Only had breakfast on a Sunday (28/2) morning, but they did not open until 8 and apart from coffee (which was excellent) and some very basic cereals and canned fruit, there wasn't much available intitially. Evan half an hour after opening only half of the advertised "full English" items were on the hotplate. I ended up eating them before my porridge which did not arrive for 20 minutes after ordering it. None of the fruit was fresh, all was canned/preserved - I think we could expect a bit more for these prices. But what we had of the Full English was fine.

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear Otherway Thank you for your review and for staying with us. I am so pleased you liked your room, finding it spacious and well appointed. I am sorry about the issues at breakfast and would like to reassure you that I have investigated this and the individuals who let you down have been dealt with. I will not tolerate poor standards, especially when they could have been avoided but thank you for bringing them to my attention. I am unsure as to who threatened to confiscate your alcohol from your room. We do not allow consumption of ones own alcohol in public areas and would believe this the only time such action would be taken but I have not got to the bottom of this but will find out. Thanks again Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

"Lovley Hotel , Fab Meal , nice big rooms - Location not too keen on."

29/02/2016

We stayed here while I was viewing a car. The hotel is lovely , clean ,friendly staff , large fluffy towels, spacious rooms and a fantastic meal in the restaurant which was a good price too.We had 2 courses each with a bottle of wine for £60.00. The only down side was the location as there are not many nice pubs or restaurants around the hotel and I was none too keen on the area. Up the road was a bit of a no go area however it is not far to the town centre by car and the IKEA there is fab. Someone had turned of the heating off in our room and i couldn't find the dial but reception were up in 2 mins to sort it out with no problem.Bar area really nice and comfortable. Hosts- 8/10 Breakfast- didn't have Facilities 9/10 Wifi not too bad Cleanliness - 9/10 Stay again- No but only because of the area, The hotel lovely.

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear Doates1 Thank you for your review of our hotel and for choosing to stay with us whilst viewing a car. I hope the trip was successful for you. I was pleased to hear how much you enjoyed your meal in our restaurant and that you found it good value for money. We are launching a new menu in the middle of March which we are very excited about. I am sorry that you were not too pleased with location of the hotel and found no pubs or restaurants in walking distance. I do understand this but would like to mention that in a car/taxi we are very close to Oldham/Ashton and even Manchester City Centre. The team are always on hand to help recommend local attractions and advise the best method of getting to them. Sorry about the previous guest turning off the heating in your room but was pleased that it was rectified so quickly. Good luck with you hunt for a new car if the one you viewed was not right. stayed at the Best Western Smokies Park 22/02/2016 for five days, on arrival the room was cold, the bathroom was tatty and the fixtures were tired and in poor repair and the shower was barely adequate, however the bed was clean and comfortable. The bar area was smelly I put this down to a dirty and ripped carpet, the carpet in the corridor to the restaurant is very dirty. The restaurant is also looking tired and the tiles around the bar are dirty and broken. I must say however the food was excellent top marks to the chef. Some staff were rude and miserable looking, a bit like the venue I say. I don't advise staying there I am afraid.

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear Mike L Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. I am sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction with your stay and have conducted a full investigation into them. Firstly I am surprised/disappointed that you did not raise any of these issue with us during your stay. I understand sometime if a guest is staying one night then they can't always be bothered to highlight any problems but when staying 5 nights I would hope/expect them to be mentioned, giving us the opportunity to help. A room move is nearly always possible, which solves the guests problem with their room straight away and lets us get the problems fixed. In terms of some of your points raised, we are not perfect but I have been the General Manager now for 5 years and have made such massive improvements in all areas of the hotel. This process never ever stops and neither will I. I would like to thank you for mentioning them to me as it helps give me focus on what our guests want. I was very surprised that you found some of the team rude, as this is an area that we take great pride in. From my understanding you were upset on check out that you had a balance to pay, as you had spent more than the allowance your company gave you. The reception team member who dealt with you is a fantastic professional but your disappointment about the balance owed seemed to effect your opinion of him and the hotel in general. I am pleased to hear how much you enjoyed your meals with us that you found your bed clean and comfortable. Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

This is a nice place to stay. Food was great - the pork to die for and the service from staff super excellent and friendly in the dining room. Rooms were comfy and there is a nice fountain thing to sit by if you smoke - you dont feel such a social pariah when you are sitting by a fountain :)

"Noisy! "

23/02/2016

Stayed for a family wedding the room was fine but far to noisy at night time for you to get any sleep as they run more then one wedding at a time on a weekend with the late night club/ bar going all night a lot off drunken arguments in the hallways! Apart from the noise as a wedding venue it was lovely.

I made a last minute trip to Oldham to visit in-laws and the room I got was fantastic value for money. Really friendly staff go a long way and I can't fault them. 09/02/2016

I had my 40th birthday party here on Saturday 30th January 2016. I booked it back in September and during this time I was in contact with Andrea the events co-ordinator and all I can say is a huge thank to her. Thank you also for the discounted rates on the hotel rooms for my guests...amazing value. Rooms are very basic but you don't need anything more as we were only getting ready in them and sleeping eventually after an amazing party. On the day the staff couldn't be more helpful moving tables and making sure everything ran smoothly. I didn't even see the buffet or have any due to being so busy but my 240 guests says the food was excellent and every single bit got eaten! Couldn't fault this venue at all. Huge thank you to all the team at Smokies for making my 40th the best birthday ever. My room was decorated by the company Balloons and More in Oldham. Loved my dance floor and back drop worth the spend!

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear NikNakWax Firstly happy 40th Birthday and I am pleased we were able to help make your celebration special. So often the team front of house get all the credit for such events going to plan, so it was so nice to hear how much you appreciated Andrea's hard work behind the scene. I have passed on your kind comments in our weekly managers meeting. Sorry to hear you found your bedroom basic. We have so many different styles of rooms that have been refurbished with many more being carried out this year. We never stop making improvements and always welcome our guests feedback. Thank you for choosing to have your party with us and we look forward to your next event. Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

01/02/2016

We stayed in one of the executive rooms, which was actually a free upgrade when we got there which were quite happy about! The girl on the front desk was very welcoming and friendly which was great and so important when you have just arrived. Check in was very efficient and just a couple of flights of stairs up to our room. The room itself was lovely, very large with a huge bed (which was amazingly comfortable and I didn't want to get up the next day!), a fully equipped bathroom and a HD tv on the wall. The large windows were nice and although our room overlooked some kind of factory or offices next door, you could still see across into Manchester which was nice at night. Might seem petty, but the pillows were perfect for me as I am asthmatic and allergic to any feather pillows. They were also reasonably firm, which I prefer. I can't comment on the restaurant or food quality as we didn't go there. All in all, we enjoyed our short stay and would readily visit again.

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear Mike P Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for posting a review. The team take great pride in receiving such feedback, as they do genuinely care. I am so pleased you liked your room and its facilities. In terms of the pillows, it is very hard to get it right for everyone, as they are a very personal preference in terms of firmness. We do change them on a regular basis and try our best to get a neutral fibre. I am pleased they were suitable for you. Hope you get a chance to dine with us next time Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotelk

Last time I had the constellation room, it is just about a suite, well worth the extra cost. Good bathroom, sitting room and lovely bedroom. Dinner was dissapointing after a 30 minute wait and whilst the beef was tasty it, and the accompaniments were only just warm.

"No Internet "

1
24/01/2016

Lovely hotel lovely staff, girl on front desk was an absolute gem. But unfortunately due to matters out of their control NO INTERNET. its 2016 not 1986, for a huge hotel chain that professes to being a 4* fails to provide Internet this is very very poor. One member of staff said it usually happens and have been know due to not paying their bills. Another member of staff told me this was a company they employ decided to cease their Internet connection.. If you're a business traveller avoid this place by the sounds of it if you need a good stable Internet connection to conduct your business affairs away from home and the office you won't be able to do it here.

"Good Hotel"

23/01/2016

This hotel is on the edge of Oldham, with reasonable access to the Motorway and Manchester. Check in was conventional , however I was advised that the internet was down, which was a pain as I had some work to do, my phone 'EE' was on the edge of reception as usual, so struggled to give me any data access. Back to the hotel the room was on the ground floor, and of a good size, with a full sized and well finished bathroom. Breakfast was a Hot and Cold buffet, which had a good range and was kept replenished by friendly and efficient staff.

"Great Hotel"

Great Hotel and I would certainly recommend a stay here if you are visiting Manchester. On arrival staff were polite and friendly, the hotel was clean and inviting. Bar and restaurant were welcoming and the food good value for money. The rooms are clean, well maintained and as advertised. A very enjoyable stay and I look forward to my next visit.

18/01/2016

Booked a room for a one night stopover whilst attending a local 40th Birthday party. It has 24 hour reception with very pleasant and helpful staff, it also has free wi-fi throughout. The hotel is fairly dated in its looks, but the room was very clean, tidy and comfortable with all the normal amenities. The hotel bar is simple in design but quiet the service was quick and the food menu was simple but good. We didn't have breakfast mainly because the £12 price asked was £3 more than the advertised £9. Overall no complaints and would stay again.

This was my first time at this hotel. the standard of the rooms was very good. the bar staff were attentive, pleasant and helpful. The receptionist was very kind and helpful too and I was as a diamond member offered a room up grade, I did not eat in the restaurant because I was meeting up to eat else where so I can't comment on that. I also did not have breakfast. But the stay was pleasant and would not hesitate in recommending the hotel or its staff.

13/01/2016

Spent one night here and not only was the room well appointed with a very comfortable bed but even though the hotel was pretty full it was amazingly quiet. I had a bar meal rather than use the Restuarant (I hate looking like Billy no mates when you are travelling on your own) and not only was the food really good it was also reasonably priced. If I am ever in Oldham I will definitely use this hotel again.

Had a one night stay over for a charity concert in Mossley some 5 miles away. From check in, through taxi booking, to check out nothing was too much trouble for the helpful and friendly staff. Room was clean and comfortable and breakfast was good. The only downsides are that the bathroom was tired and the bar meals left a lot to be desired.

This place is a utter dump. Went there for our works Christmas party. The food was literally pig swill. The turkey was like rubber. The veg was so over cooked What a rip off!I I will never EVER go here again. Oh and the bar prices? £3.50 for a pint of Coke?!

Dear Markieb68 I would normally thank a reviewer for their review, regardless whether it was a good or bad score but I just can't tolerate disrespect. You are fully entitled to your views and I am sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction but I find your choice of vocabulary to be very disrespectful and hope other readers can make up their own mind as to how worthwhile this review is. I have read all your reviews and having worked and lived in Leeds for many years, find many of your reviews very surprising about some great restaurants there. I guess I will just have to take my place along side the 73% of places you have reviewed and given a poor or terrible score to. "Very upset"

27/12/2015

I booked a room for three nights at Christmas to enable me to spend time with my son and my grandchildren. Being disabled I asked for a room with a wet room when I booked. The man that showed me to my room was very polite and friendly ,even though he kept calling me 'sweetheart' every 10 seconds! When I looked around the large room it was quite dirty especially the windows. There were cobwebs everywhere as well. The ironing board is kept beside the wardrobe and I think that the cleaner needs to remove it when he/she hoovers the stained carpet as there were tissues and a spider in the corner . After I was promised that the room had a wet room ,it did not. The shower looked old and grubby , the paint was peeling off of the ceiling and the tiles were falling off of the walls and the tiles on the floor were not slip proof. The bathroom was not meant for a disabled person at all. To have to get in the shower you would have to manage a 12 inch slope! Hopeless. I didnt have any sleep here as the room was so cold and the bathroom even colder. The lid on the kettle did not close properly , the list goes on. I checked myself out of room 209 early the next day after having paid for one nights stay . I dont think I should have been charged for this night, its a joke.

"Decent venue, dubious food"

3
26/12/2015

I went here for a staff Christmas party recently - the room was pretty big (not that you'd know it with how closely packed-in the tables were - though this isn't really the fault of the hotel) and fairly well-decorated (though it looked more like a wedding reception than a Christmas Party), but the food was very disappointing. I'm sure that there's a choice of what food is provided when such events are booked, and when providing a free party for potentially a few hundred people, organisations are going to want to spend a fortune. However, even considering this, the food was pretty disappointing. I was in the first 10-15 people served, but already the hot food wasn't particularly hot and someone else on my table who sat down a minute or so after me found her food was already cold. A few people enquired of the staff serving the hot food as to what some of the cold buffet items were, but the best they could offer were "I think those are chicken drumsticks". Both the two lads serving the hot food and the various staff going round collecting glasses and clearing up looked thoroughly miserable and most didn't even speak before collecting empty glasses or plates. Still, this is a hotel that hosts events - not a fancy restaurant, so perhaps I was expecting too much & besides, they'd have had to shout to be heard over the DJ who was painfully loud. The first person I saw was the guy behind the bar in another room (someone was stood in front of the sign saying where our party was, so I turned left instead of right as the door was open). Credit to him, he was very pleasant and smartly presented, so good first impressions there. The place was certainly clean & looked like it was well-looked after. I didn't stay over myself, but I heard from others that the rooms were clean & the beds comfortable, and that the staff they spoke to were pleasant. All-in-all, there's nothing particularly bad about the place (other than the food and some of the staff looking like they sooner be "anywhere but here"), but there was nothing outstanding about it either. If I was looking to host an event on a budget, I would consider returning, but I'd certainly explore other options first.

I hit this for an overnight for a stay in Manchester. I got upgraded to a double room which was very nice indeed. Lovely clean hotel, staff very polite and professional. Good location and very quiet. Spacious bathroom and great shower.

Dear Sean C Thank you for choosing to stay with us whilst visiting Manchester. So pleased you liked our hotel and its location. "Mad hatters xmas "

19/12/2015

Don't get me wrong the hotel is lovely looking but in would not go again. We were cramped in like sardines sharing tabels with other parties, dinner service was quick which is always good but the food was below par. I found something hard in my soup but hay i wont let that ruin it, its tasty soup. Then i had the salmon. Looked devine untill i had to start picking bones out of it.. So i didnt finish it as that was effort. Now for dessert "a gorgeous EAT ME sweet box filled mad hatters desert and a DRINK ME" i got what looked like baught in cosco birthday cake thrown infront of me and a pounland test tube shot. I can safely say i was robbed of a sweet box there... The entertainment felt like i was in the kids club at butlins so i didn't really enjoy it. And to top it off most.. Not all.. Most of the staff was rude, barged past you and were not welcoming. I hate bad reviews but it had to be done.

Went to the 'Alice in Winterland' party night with friends and family and had a great time. the food was tasty and hot, the wine reasonably priced and the cocktails good. the DJ was excellent and had a full dance floor constantly.

"Staff Christmas party"

15/12/2015

This is the fourth time we attended Smokies Christmas party, this year being the Mad Hatter's party. The food was hot and atmosphere was vey good especially this year's DJ. In my opinion the food value is not as good as in previous years as now the sweet is served in a plastic container rather then a plate(more like a fast food diner) and no coffee and mince pies. All in all as a group we had fun.

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear Annerita Thank you for your review and for choosing to come to Smokies for a fourth year in a row. I am so pleased you enjoyed your evening, especially the DJ/entertainer. I am a little confused by your comments about our dessert, coffee & mince pies. I arrived a little over 4 years ago just before a Christmas which I had not planned. I felt it was a little dated and the 3 course traditional meal, with tea and coffee took far too long to serve to 280 and the party was not getting really started until about 10.30pm. I also observed that so many desserts were not being eaten as people were up and about wanting to start partying. The tradition dessert was not valued by the majority and as someone who really struggles with waste found it hard to swallow(excuse the pun). Not going to go on, but I feel every little bit helps in our strange world. I changed the format in 2012 to a themed season of parties, with fab décor, fun toys like casino tables, photo booth etc and a quality DJ/entertainer. The other big change back then was the change in dessert style from a traditional plated dessert to a quirky fun and quick one to help get the party started and reduce waste, as guests only take a dessert if they want one. This has worked really well over the past 4 years and none of the desserts have been served on plates. We now get the party started at about 9.30pm, which is the main event for the majority of our Christmas party guests. I can only think that you have attend the other event in the hotel in previous years which has an extended menu, with 4 choices for all 3 courses and served in a traditional fashion. The desserts over the past 4 years in the large Medlock suite has been Christmas pudding flavour ice cream, lollies, Cornetto's, doughnuts. This years rainbow cake and a flavoured alcoholic shot, was part of the Alice in wonderland theme(eat me, drink me). I understand that this quirky style is not to everyone's taste but it has proven very successful and lends towards a fantastic party and atmosphere. The ticket price does reflect so much more than just the meal as we invest so much in 2 casino tables, photo booth, DJ entertainer with 2 dancers, cocktail bar, themed décor, prizes on the night, We are very proud of our events and the meal. As you mention, your meal was hot and over the past 3 weeks has been very well received. Please don't forget that we do host another event, with a more restaurant style meal with its own entertainment in a room that holds 70. Sorry for the long detailed reply and at the end of the day I am so pleased all your group had fun. Next year is an" Alpine" theme and the dessert at the moment is planned to be in a Christmas market style pastry/strudel, again served in a quirky manner, which we are in the planning stages for at the moment. Hope you join us Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

"Dump"

10/12/2015

All I can say is what a dump - Firstly the bedroom was dirty the floor was sticky and smelly. The runner in the bedroom had dodgy stains from a previous occupant who definitely had a good time. The bar food is well priced if you you ever get your order I waited nearly 80 minutes for an order when it arrived it was uncooked. All in all the prices claims quality but certain elements let it down. Best bit is the breakfast. Morning Chef knows how to make a breakfast

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear Jay JR Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. Whilst I take guest feedback very seriously and can not tolerate poor standards, I do feel the title of your review is very disrespectful. I would always hope that guests inform us during their stay of any issues, giving us a chance to sort it out for them. I am very disappointed that we did not deliver our usual high standards and will be addressing this with the heads of departments. I was pleased to hear how much you enjoyed your breakfast Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

30/11/2015

Attended the Mad Hatter's Christmas Party night on Saturday November 29th. This is the third year running and all have been excellent. Food was fantastic and very hot which is always nice when there are so many people to serve. We were a small party of 7 and everyone had a very enjoyable evening. My husband and I stayed overnight and as usual were not disappointed. The room was clean and very comfortable and the staff all very polite and friendly. Breakfast was very nice. Alreading planning for Christmas Party 2016!

"Vomity towel and suspect sheets"

5
29/11/2015

Upon arrival at smokies i entered into a modern foyer to be handed my key card to the emporer suite, i was expected great things and i was disappointed. Just outside the room i was greeted by a a towel which was covered in what i can only suspect to be vomit. I imagined this towel would be taken soon but little did i know this was part of the furniture a real addition to the character of this hotel. Once in the in the room there were many suspect stains on the sheets showing what a great time people had in this establishment. Which in fact truely mirrors the other guests staying on this particular day. A wedding reception greeted us in what i can only decribe it as "slags on tour" which to be honest only enhanced the allure of the whole experience. All in all this smutty gem on the manchester left wanting more scuzzy yet amazing hotel i can't to book my wedding here

"Not great but OK for cheap hotel"

27/11/2015

Staff were very friendly but booking in & bar service for our visit was very slow, they seemed overwhelmed by a large party & stopped taking food orders when we arrived. The rooms are larger than some and everything was clean but the walls are thin so you hear a lot of noise from other rooms. It's a £20 taxi fare into Oldham Centre.

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear den437 Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. I am sorry that you stay was affected by the large group that were staying with us. We do our best to make sure all our guests are treated the same regardless if they are part of a group or a single traveller. I am pleased you found the team friendly and you room large and clean. You mentioned a taxi into Oldham is £20. Just to clarify, it is £20 into Manchester and about £6 into Oldham. Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

"Poor breakfast undermines anything good about this place "

3
22/11/2015

I spent a night here on business. It's comfortable enough although the decor and furnishings are tired. The bar is comfortable enough although there's a lot of massive tables and empty spaces. Weirdly there were clearly far, far more cars in the car park than there were guests - why do you allow the use of your car park in this way and the consequent impact it has on paying guests? It was the breakfast which really lets this place down. I went down at about 0830 but the hot items had obviously been on the counter since the start of breakfast well over an hour earlier. The bacon was dry, stiff and stuck together. The sausages were clearly pretty poor quality to begin with and the 90 minutes in the open air had sealed their fate. To make matters worse, the brown sauce was a cheap substitute rather than HP (unforgivable). Unlikely to be visiting again.

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear DulwichEd Thank you for your mixed review and I hope the good out weights the bad. I would like to explain that we had an event on the night you stayed which resulted in more cars than normal. I am very pleased that we are able to offer free parking for all our hotel and event guests, but am sorry you were not happy with the additional parkers. In terms od breakfast, I will pass on your feedback to the head chef but our normal breakfast service is well received but am sorry you were not happy at 8.30am when you dined with us. We would always be happy to cook you fresh items if you are not happy, but just need to be to be told. I hope you visit again. The hotel was very nice with good rooms and very comfortable beds. Everywhere was very clean and well maintained. The staff very exceptionally helpful and very friendly. If there was one downfall, it was the restaurant where our evening meal was very disappointing .

"A great weekend in Manchester . . ."

5
16/11/2015

It is really worth looking out for events in Manchester to find a reason to visit this gem of a hotel. I spotted the David Beckham UNICEF event at Old Trafford and booked for a group of us to go with a stop over at this hotel for the night. I have stayed here before and loved it and so knew that this was going to be great. I did feel a little sad when my usual room on the Executive floor was not available (well worth the extra spend as lovely spacious rooms). However, when I got there the staff had done me a wonderful service and booked the "Emperor Room". I mention this room by name because if it is available when you go then I would really recommend it. It is on the quiet Executive floor and is in a corridor of only 2 rooms and so no one is passing. I think that the other room might have been called the Empress? The room was lovely and spacious with a dressing area, lounge area and sleeping area. The bathroom is lovely too and the bed sooo comfy. The rest of my party stayed in the standard rooms and they are great too. Their bathroom was very similar to mine. The room was just far smaller and located on the standard hotel corridors. They had a lift up to their rooms with a lovely clean bedroom and large TV with a comfy leather settee and so if you can't stretch to the executive floor or if the executive floor is booked it is still very much worth staying here. We had an exciting time at the match and returned to the hotel for dinner. There was a great menu where all of the party apart from one could not resist the "build your own burger". A very posh burger where you choose all of the components from whether you had a beef burger, chicken or vegetarian with 2 from a huge choice of toppings such as cheese, mushrooms etc. and then 2 sides from a large list of sides, healthy and not quite so healthy but very tasty. Our other member of the party had a smoked salmon salad which she said was delicious. We all had a buffet breakfast in the restaurant the next morning with everything that you could want on the buffet or on a separate menu if you wanted something special like smoked salmon Eggs Benedict. The staff are all really friendly and welcoming.

"Dont stay"

12/11/2015

Inadequate heating in the bedrooms. Lamps not working in the rooms and bathrooms. Poor showers and arrogant bar staff. Different rules on different nights for ordering food at the bars, one night you need ID next night you dont and luke warm food for breakfast. I travel all round the UK staying in hotels and will not stay here again. This is not value for money!!!

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear John P I am sorry to hear of you disappointments ands would like the opportunity to explain some of the points you raised. I checked the room you stayed in and found all the lights worked. I put my key in the electric key slot whilst no lights came on straight away, they all did once I have turned them on. The heating is on a timer and also a thermostat in each room, which we continue to alter as the weather changes. I feel I must explain and stand up for my bar team who are not arrogant or rude, but just doing a good job of protecting the guest account with us. They only ask for the key card folder to check the guest room number and signature. This is purely to make sure that our guests only get charged with food and drink that they have had or authorised. The fact that the night before, you did not need the card, was due to the team member knowing who you were, hence not requiring the ID. On the second night the team member had not meet you before and did the right thing in asking for the correct paper work. I am sorry that this procedure upset you but they did do the right thing. I shall meet with the head chef to discuss the breakfast. I can see that you have reviewed 5 hotels and scored 4 of them 1 out of 5, so I don't feel singled out. Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

A clean welcoming room with all facilities and a very happy efficient staff in all areas. We only stayed overnight but were made to feel wanted at all times. the hotel is easily reached and could be utilised for a visit to Manchester where prices would probably be much higher. Aimee,Amy and Sophie in the restaurant were especially welcoming as was the barman on duty whose name we do not recall.

"It smelled a bit funny!"

05/11/2015

Stayed here for a weekend to attend a party. The room decor was erm well not very nice, the bathroom was well worn and the shower was poor. I know this is much more a budget hotel, but I still paid £87 per night. It just felt very weathered and old! Added to this, we had dinner, approx 14 of us, and some had finished before some others had even been served. The worst thing was the smell in our room, it smelled like drains, which with a hangover wasn't too much fun!

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear Wardy D I am so sorry to hear of the issues you experienced whilst staying with us. "Won't go for carvery again"

28/10/2015

A few week ago we called in smokies just eat for a sunday carvery, one of our "can't be bothered to cook days" it was full and the lady on the desk said you have to book now!! Sort of spoils the spontaneity if that's the case, but because it was full we assumed it was good, so we booked the following week, we arrived at 4pm and after a few minutes wait a lady appeared and sort of waved us vaguely to a table that wasn't set for a meal. There was only a couple of other tables occupied, before we could sit down another lady appeared and proceeded to sweep under and around the table! There wasn't anyone serving at the bar and the first lady had disappeared! We felt like we'd just walked into a party that was over! Very weird and uncomfortable! So we left. If smokies are going to do a successful carvery, they need to train their staff better!!!!

Dear Stewart_Yorkie Thank you for your review of your weekend stay with us whilst attending a wedding. I always take great pleasure in hearing nice reviews about guests stays with us. Hotels come in all shapes and sizes, posh to B&B, countryside to city centre, modern to old but the one thing in my opinion that makes a hotel is the team. You review comment on the friendly helpful team from reception, bar and housekeeping, which makes me very proud. Thanks again Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

Warm welcome by a very efficient and friendly receptionist, room excellent, very large and spotlessly clean. 18/10/2015

Stayed for two nights - Friday and Saturday. Had room on top floor facing back which was quiet though a couple of times during the night the fire door was heard to bang but soon got back to sleep. Staff very friendly, efficient and informative re transport. 409 bus stops just outside hotel on both sides of the road therefore good links to Ashton and the Metrolink to Manchester. Room clean and tidy though some minor stains of carpet from old spillages remained which could have been removed with a quick carpet clean, Breakfast options were excellent and we were well looked after by head waiter and staff. Restaurant clean and tidy. Friday night there was a wedding taking place but no issues, on Saturday night it was just a typical Saturday night in the bar. A bit noisy with one group but again no issues and this small group also had rooms near the bar on the ground floor.

It is 7am just had my breakfast still no one at reception or answering the reception phone. From midnight till 4.30 am the room next to me has been used by 3people that I can only assume are hotel staff. Shouting, TV on full volume, doors slamming. I hope it doesn't continue tonight.

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear SsangYong Thank you for writing a review of our hotel and I am so sorry to hear of the noise issues you experienced. I would like to start off by assuring you that none of my staff were staying in the room next to you or anywhere in the hotel. I have a very strict policy on staff staying in the hotel and it would have to be authorised by me in advance and only very rarely does it happen. This does not excuse the fact that you experienced such noise levels, which is why I have a night team on duty to look after our guests and deal with such situations. I don't know when you called but I had a meeting with the night manager and he did not receive any calls. My reception manager arrived at work at 6.50am and was in the office directly behind the reception desk, and a door bell is provided on the front desk to alert her. We really care about our guests during the night and are always disappointed to hear of such situations when we would rather be aware and be able to help. I am sorry and pleased that this did not happen on the 2nd night of your visit. Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

Unlike my previous visit to the north east when ended up in the M62 services travel lodge my company booked me in here. First impressions were...where is it!!! as I drove straight past missing the sign as it was just out of my sight line in the leaves of the trees. But once found a speedy check to my room on the 2nd floor overlooking the rear carpark. A good size room with king size double, sofa dressing table and wardrobe. Bathroom clean and practical. For one night I could ask for more. Some traffic noise, and you do hear the occasional guess return later at night, but my only gripe was the bed. For me it wasn't firm enough and I didn't have the greatest of sleeps, just a personal preference. I didn't use the hotel restaurant but found plenty of eateries 10 minutes down the road at the Ashton Moss leisure park.

GM_SmokiesOldham, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Smokies Park, responded to this review
Dear Yeti72 Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel and I am pleased that on the whole, you liked your visit. I am sorry that you found that your bed was not firm enough compared to what you have at home. Mattresses are very personal preference and it is very difficult to get it right for everyone. We do invest in good quality mattresses but do not choose the firmest or softest but somewhere in the middle. Sorry that you did not dine with us, hopefully next time Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

04/10/2015

My partner and I stayed here due to being at a wedding do elsewhere in the area and this was the most reasonably priced hotels. Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly front of house staff member who promptly took all our details and asked if we wanted one or two keys, we asked for two which was just as well because the electric was conrolled by the key card meaning we could leave it on whilst we were out and could still get back into our room, The room itself was very spacious and very clean, however the radiator although it was not on made noises all through the night, the shower head needs to be replaced as when we turned it on even with the shower curtain closed water was leaking over the side of the bath (room 204), other than that the bathroom was very clean. The windows I do not think are double glazed as when we woke up the next morning it was full of condensation without the radiator being on and us being far away from the window in the first place. As we were at the end of the corridoor there was not a lot of noise from other guests which was good. We were also told that the wifi was down and that a BT engineer was coming out to sort it, however this did not occur as neither of us could get a connection. If we were to be in the area again we would consider staying here again. However be aware that if you are following a satnav it says you have reached your destination on the left the hotel was actually on the right, its a good job we saw the large sign behind the trees else we might have driven past!

Dear Beth R Thank you for your review of our hotel and all the useful feedback. I am so pleased that you liked your stay with us and would consider returning again. I am sorry that the wifi was down and that this was not sorted by BT in the timescale they promised. It has since been fixed and I have feedback my dissatisfaction that they did not solve it quicker. We have changed the shower head in your room and are looking into the noise from the radiator. I was also pleased that you had a quiet night and did not hear noise from other guests. Thank you for staying with us Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel

I visited this hotel for one night on a business trip. The room was extremely clean and modern and staff very polite and helpful. Me and my colleagues had a few issues at the bar with the card machine, which ended up with the staff chasing us for payments that had not gone through despite spending a good 15 mins resolving this at the hotel. The bar woman was not very helpful... Other than this our stay was very pleasant.

"Not the best"

Stayed here in September for one night. Room was a good size and all staff were very friendly......urm that's it for the positives! Bathroom was vile, my bath was full of sand! There was mildew throughout the entire shower area and the bathroom just hadn't been cleaned properly with someone elses hair around the bath. Ew ew ew. Sleep quality was awful, I wouldn't say I had particularly noisy neighbours but I could hear EVERYTHING that was going on in the adjoining rooms, the walls must be made of paper. Bar area resembled something along the lines of a sports bar and workingmens club combined. Football on large TV etc, not somewhere you would want to spend a huge amount of time if on a business trip or with family actually. Restaurant was a bit strange too, it was like they've tried really hard to create a quality atmosphere but it just hasn't worked. It didn't feel cosy, didn't feel classy just uncomfortable, whatever ambiance it was trying to create it failed. Menu was limited and overpriced, food took ages to arrive (which was odd considering there were only three other tables occupied) and was ok when it did. Breakfast was ok too, I must admit I do prefer ordering from a menu but the buffet was ok and is helpful if you are in a rush and haven't got time to wait to be served. The whole stay for me was wrecked by a vile bathroom and lack of sleep due to noise. I'm visiting the area again next week and have not booked this hotel.

Dear ADAMOC Thank you for your review. To be honest I am having a very strange week on Trip advisor as I am receiving comments that I have not had in 4 years. I take all feedback very seriously and any cleanliness issues will be dealt with very quickly. I have now had 3 comments about cleanliness and will be personally reviewing all 73 bedrooms and bathrooms with the head housekeeper and maintenance manager to rectify any issues with immediate effect.. I have never received feedback about the restaurant like yours, only positive comments. I am really pleased with the décor, atmosphere and menu but I totally understand that we are all different. Again our bar is well received as it is very homely, with very comfortable sofas, TV's as guests do like to watch a variety of programs, a very well stocked bar with bar stools for those that wish to sit at the bar, a good bar menu and very friendly staff. I am sorry that it was not to your taste. As I said before, I will be taking immediate action on all cleanliness issues raised but in terms of the other comments I do feel they are your personal opinion, which you are fully entitled to and share but I just do not agree. The hotel is sat next to the main road so is easy to find and on first impression looks rather inviting. The rooms are ok, but the walls are very thin and you can even hear someone having a shower. The cleaners are very poor, the bath etc where not cleaned properly and bins not emptied. The food in the restraint is ok but I found the bar food was very bland and tasteless. The worst thing about the hotel are the staff who are not vey helpful, l asked for a variation of a meal and was told that they would see what sort Of mood the chef was in. They also

Dear warriorCallowEnd Thank you for taking the time to review on hotel and I am sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction. I will not tolerate poor standards of cleanliness and shall be meeting with the head house keeper to discuss your comments. I am pleased you were happy with your meal in the restaurant but again disappointed to hear you comments about the bar menu. Our head chef is very committed to delivering high standards on both menus and will review the standards on the bar offering. The one big surprise was your comments about the teams service as regular readers of our reviews will see how highly they are rated. I take all feedback very seriously and will investigate what happened. I can only summaries at this point that it was a bad day and for some strange reason they were unable to deliver their normal high standard of service, for which I am very sorry. I wish I had had the opportunity to discuss these issues with you directly and would always advise guests to contact e directly on [email protected] Hope this experience does not put you off staying with BEST WESTERN again Give us a second chance and I am sure you will experience what many other reviewers are saying about us Kind Regards Brent Hutchins General Manager BEST WESTERN Smokies Park Hotel
