    « Three day stay »

Check in went very smooth. Very good access off # one highway. Price was reasonable but the room was very cramped. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. We just found the room to be a bit small. You wouldn't want to spend much time in your room. The air conditioner worked but did make quite a bit of noise. Breakfast was included in the room price and was very good. You do get 10% off meal prices at the Rustic Kitchen restaurant next door. Maybe other rooms are better but 210 was small.

    « First Stay Awesome »

Stayed at this hotel on the review of my colleague who stays here regularly on his travels in Southern AB. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and went out of their way. I would / will definitely stay here on my travels through the Hat!

« Disaster - where to park, heat »

Was told my room had an outside door and park around back....numbering is weird, and in the dark could not see numbers....finally realized only an inside door on the other side of the hotel....go in to the room (november, high was 10, low was 1)...window is open in bathroom and ac is on set to 21. No heat...Turn off ac, close window...set heat to between 15 to 20. Awake due to noise of people going in and out of the outside door close to my room....finally asleep and wake up with the room super hot....turn off heat completely and turn on an hour to bring it down to 21... hardly any sleep.

    « I really like this place »

I stay here on business from time to time when I need to stay in Medicine Hat. Check in is so quick and seamless. This last time Deb was so incredibly friendly and helpful, as usual. Rooms are adequate - I'm not overly the King Suites though. Free shuttle to the airport and back. Nothing bad to say about the place. Keep it up BWSC.

    « Ministry ambassador »

The property says Best Western Plus but to other Plus properties I have stayed at it was not Plus status. I am a Diamond member. The property is very old. There is no elevator and you have to walk up older person would have issues. gr8 front desk staff. If ever back in Medicine Hat would stay at the brand new Hampton Inn by Costco.

« Old and Needs Cleaning »

Stayed at this hotel for one night and was very disappointed, as Best Western hotels are usually very good. Pool had caution tape around it and hot tub had plywood covering it for who knows how long...Baseboards in the room needed a good cleaning, bedside lamp had water stains on the shade, no elevator on the property that we were told about and had to drag our luggage up to the second floor. Breakfast was so minimal that we decided to eat at the MacDonalds next door. was very disappointed compared to several other hotels I had stayed at, of the same company.

« Great friendly stay in Medicine Hat »

We were very happy with the service and the surprise upgrade to a room as large as our apt. The staff were very friendly and while the hotel is a bit of a maze, it's well worth the visit with great rooms, friendly staff and many great restaurants within walking distance from the hotel.

« not the best stay that I have had at this hotel »

Before I got to the hotel I checked the rate online and for a military veteran the posted rate was $79/night. I got to the hotel and was told that the rate was $132/night. I told the front desk clerk that the rate online was $79, she told me that it was probably listed in US dollars, and she lowered the rate to $100/night. I took it reluctantly. When I got to my room I checked online and it said $54 USD/night and $79 CDN/night. I went back to the front desk and they suggested that it was a rate only available online. I checked again and there was no mention of the rate being only available online. I have stayed at this hotel many times before and the rate was $79. Originally I was going to be overcharged by $50/night and then they lowered it down so I was only being overcharged by $20/night and they felt that I should be grateful for that because that is all that they could do. When I got to the room, it smelled like a pool. There was a chlorine smell and the temperature was 89 F. I went to turn on the wall air conditioner/heater and all it did was blow more hot air into the room. I found the external air conditioner, to get at it I had to get down on my hands and knees to be able to see the controls. I went to turn it on and the front panel of the air conditioner fell off. I turned it on and set the temperature down to a comfortable temperature and it took a couple of hours to cool off the room. I had to open the door to let some cool air into the room. My wife went to have a shower and they have the shower nozzle way up too high, she could not even reach it. I came in to adjust the nozzle and the whole nozzle and water pipe pulled out from the wall. When checking out the front desk clerk barely even looked up at me (she was busy looking at the terminal). I have stayed at this hotel many times and have rated them 9 out of 10, but this time they only got a 4 out of 10. I am willing to give them another chance but if my next stay is anything close to the last one, I will be giving my business to another hotel. Just to let you know I spend about 5 months of the year on the road and I stay at a lot of hotels and I usually find the Best Western hotels have a high standard, unfortunately they did not make the grade this time.

    « Very pleased »

Debbie always Makes sure I get my upgrade. Which I'm very grateful for. The rooms are needing some Tlc, breakfast was very good with lots of food. Staff are always so friendly at this location. I was at your hotel last week, and I had a convention in. Brooks on friday night/Saturday morning. Much to my surprise Debbie was at the hotel i stayed at in Brooks, working. So I got really good services at both hotels I worked at. Thank you Debbie for your great service, your hard work does not go unnoticed.

    « Average stay »

We stayed at this motel 1 night. The property is a little dated, but it was clean and priced accordingly. The breakfast in the morning was good and we had plenty to eat. If the place was updated a little it may be more appealing.

« NO NO NO NO »

This place is a dump. I work at a 4 star hotel myself but I was driving across the country and it was late and I didn't have the choice of luxuries as I was tired and hungry, so I stopped here. The front desk man was the opposite of personable and would barely look me in the eyes. After a long day of driving, I asked him what was open for food. He gave me one suggestion that ended up being CLOSED. Now, my room.... was a horror show. It was right off the pool area which was the most awkward room location I have ever seen. My room reeked of chlorine and it was so dirty. As soon as you walk into the door, you enter into the bathroom. Strangest layout and honestly felt like a dirty motel. It was a disaster but I was so tired, I just went to bed (although I wanted to check out and find a better hotel). In the morning there was no folio under my door which is what I normally expect at the hotels I stay at. I called the front desk and the same man that checked me in said he'd e-mail it to me as I had to leave early to begin my drive again and did not have time to stop by the front desk.... 25 minutes later I call back as I still didn't receive it and some woman answered saying she doesn't have access to e-mail and I had to come by front desk. What!?! I need receipts for accounting purposes so I then had to walk all the way to front desk (which was so far away from where my car was parked and wasted my time) to get a copy of my folio. This place was just a disaster and I do not recommend it. I will never stay at a best western ever again.

« Not What "PLUS" Should Be! »

We have stayed at many, many Best Westerns over the years and found that this one was the "worst" one we have ever stayed at! I am not sure how they are a "Plus" hotel because the room we were in was so tiny and hot that it was not comfortable and you could hardly move especially for the price! We booked it online because of a "special price" and now we know why. The price was WAY too high for the room. The bathtub was filthy, the walls needed to be cleaned and the floors need to be redone. I used to work in the hotel industry and I can tell you that if we ever had a room that looked like this, we would have been reprimanded! The breakfast was just okay. Nothing to write home about and nothing like any of the other Best Westerns we have had the privilege of staying at. The pool was not open and we weren't told that when we checked in or before. This is an older hotel and if you stay in the older part which faces a back road, you don't feel safe. I will not recommend and ever stay here again. I don' t usually write bad reviews but this one had to be done!

    « Friendly staff »

The hotel room was average, we liked the fact you could park right outside your room so we didn't have to lug our bags through the hotel. Some of the workout equipment was broken but I still was able to get a good workout in. The pool is a little dingy. But overall we would stay there aging next time we are heading out west.

    « Great sleep »

This was a great place to stay after a long day driving. The room was big and the beds comfortable. Very clean and well maintained. Checkin was fast. Breakfast the next morning was free and had a good variety.

« Very nice, homey hotel »

Very nice, comfortable hotel. We were upgraded to a jetted tub room and it was very roomy for the two of us. Enjoyed our visit and would definitely stay in this hotel if we were back in Medicine Hat again.

« Convenient, clean and friendly facility! »

My husband and I stayed at this Best Western overnight before his surgery at the Medicine Hat hospital. I chose it not only because it is a Best Western but also for the location. It is very close to the hospital. I had stayed there on business many years before but the facility did not disappoint. The room was huge and clean. The front desk staff and cleaning staff were friendly and more than accommodating. The pool and spa were closed for repairs but we had a huge room with our own in-room Jacuzzi tub. There were a few repairs that needs to be done to the carpet and wall paper but our bed was very comfortable and so were the pillows. The room was clean and had entrances to the hall and to the outside so it made it very convenient for my husband to get to and from the vehicle. The breakfast was very good and had a good variety of items. It is also conveniently located close to a variety of dining options. All in all this was a wonderful stay and we would not hesitate to repeat out visit but hopefully......not for the reason we were there. Keep up the good work folks!

« Excellent service from Allynna, at the front desk. »

After a long day on the road, Allynna was very helpful in finding us an excellent room at a reasonable price. Our wallet had been lost earlier in our trip, so cash reserves were a consideration, and we very much appreciate her help. The room was more than satisfactory.

« Great place to stay! »

This is a great hotel! Debbie at the front desk was kind and helpful! She recognized that my mom had mobility challenges and moved us to the main floor and was close to an exit to the parking lot! Great customer service! My only concern with the room was the ceiling stucco was cracked and sagging and looked like it could fall into the bed at any moment!

    « Mold and flies »

The washroom had mold in the shower, see photos. The bathroom window was open with no screen d there were six flies in the room. The remote was dirty and one of the beds had crumbs in it! The fitness room had no ventilation and was very warm. The complementary breakfast was great and the staff was very nice.

« Badly in Need of Repairs and Renos »

We have stayed in 5 Best Western Hotels over the past week while on vacation. We were extremely disappointed with this particular hotel. We were in Room 127 ... Stained carpet, stained and torn curtains, wallpaper ripped away from the wall in the bathroom, grout missing from several tiles, noisy fan in the bathroom - very dated. We went to the front desk to complain and were told no other rooms were available. Very disappointing.

  • 2
« Dated, not up to standard »

The entire property was dated and in need of a total renovation. The bathroom in our room looked like something out of the '40s. The fan sounded like a plane taking off. Lighting was poor. Outside, the stairs were rusting. The property is supposed to be non-smoking but there was a large ashtray outside our door and it was being used by a guy sitting on the steps. The ice machines were all out of order. The free breakfast was provided and was good, as long as you wanted what the cook was cooking at the moment. Overall, not recommended.

« An Obvious Deficiency Unrepaired »

This was our second stay at this property. Our previous stay was earlier this year. Our unit (151) was clean however the wall to wall carpet was coming up from off of the floor. As a retired commercial liability underwriter, I considered this to be somewhat of a hazard however my main issue was why this obvious and undoubtably long standing fault remained uncorrected. I was disappointed by this lack of maintenance. One might expect this from a no tell motel renting units at 48$ a night but not from a Best Western. A little tacky to say the least. I did not complain to the front desk as I didn't want to move to another room but I have since mentioned it to Best Western through their quality control questionnaire. The wifi was pretty nominal in our unit...very weak and needs improvement or upgrade. One of the worst that we have encountered in a long time. The reception staff were super friendly and professional. We did not have the breakfast as we were leaving early. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean and we left well rested.

    « Overnight Stay »

Our room was okay, set up for long stay with kitchen, etc. Paid for extras that we didn't need. Front and back entrances to room. Pool under renovation. Unfortunately my bed was by door that had an ice and drink machine right outside which ran all night and was quite noisy. Good breakfast included.

    « Review »

I was on a pleasure trip this time and the Best Western Plus was great. I used my RIDE REWARDS and got upgraded to a Jacuzzi room for the price of a regular room. Very nice! The room was nice and clean, the bed was comfortable. The hot brekkie was delicious, mini omelets and bacon. My only complaint is that the onsite restaurant was closed on Sunday so I had to go elsewhere for supper.

    « Highway Accessible »

We always make this our stop on the way to the mountains. It has easy access to the major highways and when you leave in the morning heading west, you have very little city to travel through as it is situated on the western outskirts. Bathrooms and fixtures need to be updated, however the rooms are always clean. Complimentary breakfast provides lots of options.

« BW AT Medecine hat »

Transiting for the night through Medicine Hat, for the night. hotel well located, good food options walking distance from the room. My room was next to the swimming pool, strong odour of chlorine and noisy until closing. room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast is ok no more.

    « Meh...its a place to sleep »

First we used air miles for this one night stay, more on this later . The keys to get in any door were a challenge, the parking lot was a real challenge. When we drove up several individuals were going through the ashtray looking for cigarette butts. I'm actually grateful that we had a view of the parking lot where we parked. Awesome that we had to lug our luggage through a maze to get t to our room. The layout of this hotel is bizarre. Almost as if they built a main part then decided over time to keep adding additional sections...weird. The room was a certain degree. The bed was terrible the pillows horrible. The tv signal was terrible. Glad it was only one night. The breakfast was not great, not terrible just ho hum. I think every Best Western Manager should go visit the Best Western in Fernie, breakfast ever. We used Air miles...I have a feeling we had an "air miles" perhaps we were "less than" guests.

« I can always count on Best Western for a good nights sleep »

Lovely hotel just off the main road. The room was clean, spacious and quiet. The staff was very helpful and courteous. I will stay here the next time I am in town. The Best western brand is consistent.

« This is a very good hotel »

This is a very good hotel. Their staffs are very professional and helpful. The facilities in this hotel are very nice. We all like their hotel's special buildings. There are some nice restaurants in its neighborhood. It is very convenient. Its location is great, very easy to locate it.

    « Halfway Stop Hotel/Chenier Reunion »

I have stopped here on a number of occasions over the past several years and have always be pleased with the service, rooms, and amenities. The Staff go out of their way to accommodate you as best as they can, including the front desk staff, cleaning staff and the breakfast lady. I requested a first floor level room as my wife and I are not as young as we used to be and carrying three or four bags up two or three flights of stairs are not recommended. They reserved rooms for us and we were so very pleased with the overall stay each nigh we stayed there. Should I decide to drive to BC again I will definitely be staying at a Best Western.

    « Average hotel »

The layout of this hotel is very confusing - like a maze. The room was average at best (the bathroom was less than I expected from a Best Western). The pool looked quite old, but it worked and the hot tub did too. The breakfast was fairly good (hot breakfast with scrambled eggs, sausages, pancakes, etc.).

    « Average hotel »

Our soccer team stayed at this hotel Aug 12-14, 2016. The hotel staff is friendly. The rooms are average. The beds were comfortable the pillows are awful. The bathrooms are ok. Very small but relatively clean. The hotel is dated. The pool is nothing to get excited about. We were in room 226 and the room windows look into the pool so it is very loud. Overall the hotel is average. Not filthy but but exceptional clean. The continental breakfast had a lot of choices so it was good. We would possibly stay here again as a team.

« little home away from home »

I use this Hotel for business every other week. The staff are friendly, the place is clean, rooms are nice, breakfast if great. It is quiet and quick exit to a main road in the morning. It is my little home away from home.

    « Massive Room »

We always enjoy the Best Western Brand and this location didn't disappoint us. The room was massive with a large Jacuzzi. Easily accessible to the TransCanada highway. Staff were very cheerful at check-in.

« Comfortable but needing some upkeep »

We had a very short stay here on our way across Alberta. Beds were comfy, breakfast was good, room was clean. But some maintenance would go a long way. Side entrance door had cracked glass as if a rock had been thrown at it. Dead bolt for our door was hanging crooked and missing some screws. Bathroom floor was so hot you broke a sweat going to the bathroom? OK for a comfortable place to sleep but wouldn't be a vacation destination.

« Great Stay Great Breakfast »

We enjoyed our stay at the Best Western Sun Country. The rooms are similar to other Best Westerns and are clean and well equipped. The breakfast was excellent and the staff was very good. The hotel provides excellent value.

« Great service, crap beds »

Nice hotel but the beds are horrible HORRIBLE. The room was musty and dark. The service quality however was excellent and the lobby area fine. The nearby restaurant was exceptionally good and you get a discount if you are staying ata hotel

    « Great service! »

We popped in late on a Friday without a reservation and the front desk clerk, Debbie was very helpful! Got us a great suite with parking right outside our door that made loading and unloading our motorcycles so easy! Very reasonably priced. A hot Breakfast was included. This place was surrounded by restaurants so we had a choice of where to eat within walking distance. Perfect! Thanks for your help!

« Decent Stopover on way to Banff »

We had a restful sleep during this stopover. Hotel is located immediately off the TransCanada Hwy and near fuel and a few eateries. The hotel is quite dated and takes you back a few years. The lobby has been updated but rooms do need a refresh. We had a large suite on the main floor with direct access to parking. The room albeit dated was very clean with the exception of the drapery which seemed old and torn in various places. I rate this hotel 3.75 and would stay again if required for a one night stopover.

    « Nice, affordable hotel »

Hotel staff as nice as you can get. Hotel amenities were very good and the bed was really good. Quiet and conmfortable without breaking the budget. I definitely will stay there on my next trip to Medicine Hat.

    « Comfortable overnighter »

This hotel was clean and comfortable. I went with my 91 year old mother who has mobility issues and the friendly gal at the front desk changed our room from a second floor suite to a main floor one. This worked out great for my mom who was able to use her walker from the car to the room with ease. The room had a small fridge and microwave oven. I appreciated the kureg coffee machine too. Although the washroom was small, the bowed shower curtain helped make it feel roomier when having a shower. Beds were firmer with smaller pillows but that suited me. There are two pools and a spa on the property. One was under repair while we were there and although the spa was working at night, it had been drained when we went to use it in the morning. The breakfast was fine when we were there and the breakfast attendant was friendly. She explained that there was an ordering issue and apologized that the breakfast wasn't up to their usual standards, so I guess it is quite a hearty breakfast most days. We visited midweek and the hotel was pretty busy although things were quiet and we relaxed while we were there. There are two excellent restaurants very close. I would stay again when visiting Medicine Hat!

    « Old Hotel »

Asked to have room changed from 2nd fl to main level. Chris at desk was put out he had to redo info. No elevator. We are seniors and to climb up and down stairs was to much. Hotel is old and out dated. Dirty curtains, black out curtains that didn't fit windows .A/C loud and noisy. Will not stay there again, very disappointed.

« Old, dark and unwelcoming hotel »

Hotel in general was old and outdated. Entry door to the lobby was full of cobwebs and windows were dirty. Our room was very small and barely had room for our luggage. Bathroom was very small, had to close the bathroom door to sit in the toilet. We had problems finding our room. The layout of the entire hotel was very confusing. The pool area was close to our room and we could smell the chlorine. Fitness facility did not have convenient hours of operation. Could not wait to check out.

« ok grounds need attention »

Nice Hotel but the Front Desk needs to answer the phone 27/7 so when their is a problem the matter an get fixed ASAP not getiig a good night sleep is hard enough on the body When driving for a living it is best to be rested and full of engery

    « Basic but clean »

I got a good rate, plus they are offering 2000 Aeroplan miles per stay (if you sign up) until the end of August so I booked here. There is nothing fancy about this place, but it is clean and comfortable. You can drive up to your room door, and while the rooms are a bit dated the bed was comfortable and the room was clean. They offered free breakfast but I didn't wake up in time. There are restaurants nearby -- McDonalds, Ricky's and a bar in the nearby Clarion hotel. The best summary I can give is that it is not fancy, but it is acceptable if you get a good rate. I might stay again just for the bonus Aeropan miles.

    « 2011 summer »

We have used Best Western many times. ... This one is the Worst Western ... 1960 decore I walk with 2 canes....she gave us rooms on backside (3 ft. below ground level ) I was 74 years old at the time ... I would not Recommend to anyone. ...??. ??.

    « The Face Needs a Refresh! »

Best Western has long been a name associated with dependable quality at an affordable rate. The rate here might have been affordable (it was not cheap) but the rest of the property does not live up to the chain's name. The shower worked; the staff were pleasant; the breakfast was good.

    « spring 2016 »

Beautiful hotel. Room very nicely done. Continental breakfast very good. Bed very comfortable. Nice location . given free upgrade. One thing missing was the credit for two nights to qualify for the $50.00 card.

« Home away from Home »

Moving from Ontario to Medicine Hat you spend a lot of time in your hotel room so you are able to rate it on all levels. No matter what room you pick, near the pool or a suite on the front you are guaranteed a good nights sleep. We spent 10 days next to the pool and never had a moment of screaming kids playing in the water till all hours of the night like some places we've been in. Breakfast here is awesome, we are pleasantly surprised by a delicious menu whatever day of the week. I wouldn't go anywhere else than BW Sun Country Med. Hat. Thanks BW you've perfected entertaining the traveller.

    « Very Unhappy »

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The price paid for the poor quality that is there is not worth the effort. Motel 6 would have been a better value. Dirty, smelly room in disrepair. The AC sounded like a mack truck in your room, the traffic was heavy, carpets soiled and smelling of pet urine, dusty. You could write your name in the dust on the coffee pot! The only good experienced was clean sheets on the beds, a friendly and very neat and orderly breakfast lady. She kept the breakfast room spic and span. The lady who checked us in was also very friendly and helpful. Not all bad but I simply would never go back again.

« First time at Medicine Hat Best Western »

First time at this hotel and staff was very helpful. Room was excellent - very clean and beds are so comfy. Breakfast was a hot meal with good variety for all. 2 pools and gym. Located right next to Hwy 1 - next to gas station and restaurant.

« Good "bang for the buck" »

The seniors rate at just under 100 CAD was a good bang for the buck for a Best Western Plus. All services were to Best Western Plus standards. Only comment was the breakfast bar choices were good but a tiny little bit skimpy on choices.

« Old and needing big renovations »

Stayed one night in 2 rooms. Check in staff were helpful in getting us adjoining rooms (upgraded as am Platinum member) near the parking area. This facility is old and badly needing renovations, the huge rooms had jacuzzi bath tubs in the middle of the room as well as full bathrooms....Very 1980's. The breakfast room is not big but very clean and well run by friendly staff and had a good selection of food. I understand that the place has new owners so would hope renovations are in the works.

    « Hotel review »

The front desk clerk offered us an upgrade to a suite, this was a very nice gesture considering most Best Westerns only offer a free bottle of water for gold membership. We loved the room and the hotel, 2 giant pools and the water in both was very warm

« Pays to be a Diamond Member »

As a diamond member I received a free upgrade to one of the nicest rooms in the hotel. Jacuzzi suite, kitchenette and about the size of a small baseball field. The hotel is older and finding your way from one part of the hotel to the other can be a bit tricky if travelling with others, but the staff was very friendly and the price was fair. I like staying here when I travel for work because I have to travel north to the office, this helps be beat most of the traffic getting out of town.

    « Great place »

Good location, close to mall. Great staff; they were friendly and very helpful. The room was quiet, Very comfortable and clean. Room was much better than expected for the price. The breakfast was a good start to the day, fresh and hot. Definitely recommend it and will stay here again.

« No concern for safety of guests »

Our experience with the hotel was not great at all. We stayed at the Best Western Plus Sun Country in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Check in was okay but at 2:30am my family was awoken by the fire alarm. I opened the door and smelled smoke, and immediately called the front desk but there was no answer. My husband, 3 year old son and myself exited the building and waited outside. We waited in the parking lot for roughly 10 minutes with other guests but no one from the hotel came by to check on us or tell us what was going on. My husband walked to the front desk (from outside of the building) to see if he could get any information because there was no firefighting personal onsite nor did we hear the sounds of any approaching fire engines. The staff at the front desk told him that they were looking for the source of the fire and that they did not call the fire department because they have had false alarms in the past. They told my husband "you can go back to your room but to be prepared to leave at a moment's notice". This did not sit well with us so we waited in our car trying to decide what to do next. At 3:30am the fire department finally showed up and about 10 firemen searched the building. No Best Western staff checked around the building to see if anyone was left outside. The firemen cleared out at approximately 4:00am. My husband approached one of the firemen and told him it was okay to go back inside. When checked out the next morning we didn't even get an apology from the staff. I would never stay here again: I feared for the safety of my family and it did not seem that Best Western had any concerns about the safety of any of their guests that night. If you want to have a safe night's stay in Medicine Hat, do NOT stay at the Best Western Plus Sun Country!

    « Poor Emergency Responce »

Smoke In hallways, 32 Minutes for Fire department to arrive, Alarm silenced in emergency situation, Guest safety not top priority. Stayed at this hotel numerous times, Facility is great, that's why I staff but I will most likely not return because if this.

    « Very nice hotel »

With being a Plus hotel you can expect to have nicer furniture and detailing in the room. The beds are pillow top and are very comfortable. It was very hot but there was a well functioning air conditioner. Breakfast was the standard you find at most BW. I must be a bit of a coffee snob, but I find the coffee at most BW not to be very good. Not sure why it seems to be so consistent. I take Starbucks VIA-instant coffee wherever I go to overcome this. Medicine Hat has plenty of coffee shops around in any case.

    « Always a good experience »

Nice hotel with lots of rooms and suites that have separate bedrooms. Good access and comfortable stay. Staff is helpful. Avoids the main traffic of Medicine Hat. Have used pools and hot pools and they were good. The fitness center is quite a walk down a long corridor to the if you are staying close to the Lobby end of the hotel. So you will be well warmed up by the time you get to the fitness room, which has a good variety of equipment.

« Older property but awesome »

I've been staying in hotels for the past year with work. I've stayed at many best westerns. This is the first time I have ever been asked to join their loyalty program. Debbie at the reception got me all signed up and enrolled for the newest promotion I'm looking forward to getting my $25 best western gift card. Check in was great, check out wasn't the best it felt like I was bothering the lady at reception. I wanted to switch my payment method and it seemed like an inconvenience. My room was spacious with a balcony and a king size bed. I will be coming back to this location for sure. The breakfast isn't all that great but it's free. 2 swimming pools and one hot tub you can really relax. Thank you Best Western plus for making this old guy feel welcomed and comfortable. Some of your staff are truly an asset to ur company. Keep up the good work.

    « Cleanliness »

We booked a standard room. I plugged in my phone charger and discovered nail clippings behind the bed. The rugs were dirty and the room smelled musty. The front desk moved us into a suite which was much cleaner.

« Was never asked to be signed up for rewards »

This hotel is not a typical Best Western was ok for a one night stand. Was not asked to sign up to rewards was told I had to give my email for their records, and short time later I received an email saying I had signed up for Best Western Rewards I did not want to be a part of this program as my husband already is a member. So beware, and make sure to specify as they just sign you up. Lady on the front desk was very friendly. Lobby looks like it has recently been updated, but the rest of the hotel is pretty old.

« A solid place for an overnight (or longer) stay »

This was our frost overnight stop on a 4,600 kilometers trip from Vernon, BC to Montreal. We chose this hotel based, as usual, upon the TripAdvisor reviews. The reception was friendly, courteous and professional. Although the place is showing its age, it appears well maintained and very clean. We got a room on the south side of the property and we had direct access to our room from the parking. Everything was comfortable. It was equipped with a small kitchenette which I was not expecting. We were off at the crack of dawn but we did enjoy a quiet sleep. Good experience and recommendable.

    « Rarely disappoints »

Most times I stay at BW it is a great hotel. Breakfast is included and has a good variety of healthy options with great coffee. The odd time I get put in a room that has the metal stairs out front and they are super noisy...avoid those rooms if you want a good sleep! Staff are normally always friendly and nice.

    « Great hotel »

Hotel was very good and fit all that I needed. Great location right on the Trans Canada and clean and friendly staff. My husband really enjoyed the breakfast. Said it was the best he ever had. Nice quiet location.

    « Been Here Before »

As always BW meets all our requirements and this one 'Sun Country' is no exception. Rooms are clean and roomy, some with Jacuzzis in the room and also kitchens making it easy to prepare salads when you are sick of eating in restaurants. The morning breakfast is excellent but just coffee in our room with the new Keurig coffee machine is really cutting it for me. Been here before.......will come again and again as the prices are fantastic

« Quiet hotel right off the #1 Highway »

Front desk staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet was great. Room was quiet and clean. The room was a bit aged and the bed was very uncomfortable, but overall a pleasant, affordable, and convenient stay.

« Looking for a hotel in The Hat ... this could be it »

Great location , just off the hiway ... very accommodating staff. Rooms well maintained , updated and reasonable priced . Comfortable beds . My first choice in Medicine Hat ... book early as outside entry rooms are taken up fast on provided on request only.

    « Medicine Hat Stay »

Very enjoyable ... Room was clean, comfortable and quiet!!! Staff was very pleasant and accommodating. Enjoyed a very nice breakfast!!! Location was great and easy to access. Would definitely recommend this hotel!!

« The best deal in The Hat? »

I have not stayed at the BW in The Hat for many years, but I had positive memories of past visits. I booked a basic room at the lowest rate, but when I registered, I asked if an upgrade was possible, as I have been a member of the BW loyalty program for many years. The receptionist smiled, and informed me, "They have already upgraded you!" Indeed, we had an enormous room (#307) just a few doors down from the lobby and business centre, with a jacuzzi, full kitchen, bathroom with bathtub, and two queen-size beds. We were able to park right in front of the outside door. There was also an inside door, opening out to the indoor corridor, leading to the lobby and breakfast room. Breakfast was extremely varied, with boiled eggs, mildly spicy omelettes, bacon, cereals, fruit, muffins, bagels, and muffins. You could also make yourself pancakes or toast. All in all, a most enjoyable stay.

« Great Price for Room »

I booked the room on a Tuesday for a Friday arrival. Got an economy room for $67/night. The room was on the small side, but we expected that as when we booked it stated they were smaller rooms. The room did have some issues, such as leaky faucet, and house keeping wasn't great. We found a few long hairs in the tub, garbage under the bed and cob webs dangling from the ceiling. When I mentioned to the front desk at check out the issues, they offered o refund us money, but as we had booked through Expedia and prepaid that couldn't be done. The front desk offered to give us Best Western points to use towards a future trips. The location was handy, right off the highway, but you don't notice the noise. There are restaurants & a gas station right beside it.

« People make the difference »

Stayed at this hotel on a business trip. Checked in after midnight and Forrest was awesome upon arrival. A pleasant surprise given the time of night we arrived. Beds were comfortable and room just what we needed after a long day of driving. Good value for money

    « Excellent Value »

Excellent value. Clean room with new carpet, two comfortable upholstered chairs, excellent bed, tiny kitchenette with table and chairs, m/w, stove, small fridge, kuerrig coffee maker and coffee, sink and kitchenware and utensils. Tub needs refinishing or replacement. Lots of choices for breakfast: eggs, sausages, pancakes, dry cereals, yogurt, muffins, juices, coffee, etc. as well as morning newspapers.

    « Business Trip »

I have stayed at this property several times and chose this property again as the staff are very friendly and the rooms although starting to be dated are very clean. The hotel is also easy to get to and from anywhere in the City and is located near the main highway going thru the City. Also, with the ground floor rooms it is easy to load and unload luggage as the rooms have an exterior door.

    « A Ray of Sunshine »

I walked in the lobby and was greeted by an amazing and friendly staff person. Every person that I saw at this hotel was smiling. My room was amazing. It had a juzuzzi tub and a regular bathroom. The free breakfast was great. Location right off the highway was close to restaurants and not far from Canalta centre and downtown. Great stay and will come back for sure

    « Good enroute stay »

A convenient place to stop along the way to our annual ski trip to the mountains. Rooms are clean, however small and crowded. The guest rooms are in need of updates and renovations. Bathroom fixtures and taps are old and need replacing. Breakfast which is included has lots of options for everyone.

« Good place for several days stay »

Nice hotel, all amenities, the fitness center quite complete. Pool good. Regular rooms are good, and the Jacussi suites are really excellent. Some have two bedrooms. Two restaurant choices are close by.

    « Needs renovations. »

They renovated the front entrance, and it looks great. The rooms need a new look. They were clean except for the windows . There are two pools and hot tubs one hot tub wasn't working. The cleaners need to pay attention to cleaning the rest of the hotel besides the rooms. The free breakfast was great.. The front desk was polite and welcoming. Thank you.

« Courteous and clean hotel »

The entire staff are helpful and courteous. The breakfast is excellent and the rooms are clean, beds comfortable. The area is very quiet - the amenities, like the pool, are handy and spotless - a good assortment of towels at poolside. We have family in Medicine Hat and we always stay at the Best Western.

    « Pleasantly surprised »

We booked a standard room at this hotel, upon arrival we were provided with a free upgrade. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. The hotel provides a continental breakfast, comparable to other hotel chains.

« Stayed here for Alberta Winter Games Event »

We stayed in room 108, my parents were in 139. The bed in 139 is very comfortable, the two queens in our room, not so much. It was clean, and your typical, dated Best Western. It was nothing special, but it wasn't horrible. The breakfast is like every other BW breakfast. If you're looking for modern and new, this is not the place. We did like having a door to the parking lot "motel style" so we didn't have to walk out through the lobby every time.

    « Very Romantic Room »

It is close to several Pubs. The room we had was exceptional. The two person jacuzzi in the room was great with the wine and the big TV. The bed was very comfortable. There was a small bar with fridge and sink and a second queen bed. The room was huge. Main level with parking facing room door. Very nice.

    « Comfortable stay »

It is your typical hotel accommodation. Beds were comfortable, parking was convenient, pool was well used!! The pool chemical levels might have seemed off, kids were complaining of very very sore eyes and the chemical smell was quite strong. The well stocked breakfast hit the spot! Friendly night and daytime staff. The kids enjoyed the chance to play a board game or two at the front lobby! Nice added feature. I read a coupe reviews about the heating system, we experienced the same problem, cold one night and hot the next. It seems a bit dated. They were accommodating of a late check out, thank you!! Overall, an excellent stay.

    « Really comfortable beds! »

My husband and I stayed here for just one night on our way to visit family over Christmas. We booked at suite which has two queen beds one was in it's own separate room so it was like having two bedrooms. There were 2 big flat screen TV's a kitchen,a living room, bathroom with shower and tub and a separate Jacuzzi by the living room. The Jacuzzi was huge! Both beds were VERY comfortable I believe they were pillow top with memory foam maybe they are new or something not sure but very nice. We did not use the kitchen but I looked in the drawers there was cutlery and pans, bowls, plates. The room seemed to be very clean as well. My only complaint was that the room smelled of bleach and I doubt it was just cleaned because we arrived at 930 pm. The sheets and pillows also really smelled like bleach and it bothered me I opened a window near the bed but didn't really help. Maybe they should rinse the bleach better when they are cleaning? And rinse the sheets better too? The continental breakfast was pretty basic, but fine if you need a quick snack and want to get going. They had juice, bread, bagels, eggs boiled and scrambled,1 yogurt, apples and muffins. And even though our room was close to the road it was very quiet.

« Great stay or not »

Stayed here over night jan14/15 2016. Being a Diamond member received a comp upgrade to a jacuzzi suite. Very large room appeared to be immaculately clean. Front desk service booking, checkin and departure was great and VERY ACCOMMODATING. Breakfast bar is pretty much the standard fair... ..cereals. . Some pretty made omlettes and that new style micro thin bacon...(hate this new bacon at most hotels free breakfasts. ..micro thin). ONLY down side waz the heating and cooling system. Couldn't adjust to the proper temp. ..either too hot or no heat. Very out dated system. Nice pet friendly hotel and charge is ONLY 14.00 one if the few hotels that aren't "screwing" you with the pet fee.

« Best western MEdicine Hat »

Old, dated hotel with unfriendly, unaccommodating front staff. Their breakfast is average at best and internet connection is extremely slow. For the price, I'd expect more value. Consider other properties in the area if possible.

    « Comfortable and Pleasant »

This is was second time at this hotel. This room was not quite as nice or as big as the first time. It was still nice with a fireplace and jacuzzi. The bed was incredibly comfortable. I had the best couple nights sleep in quite sometime. Breakfast is decent. The lady in there was helpful and friendly, kept everything fresh, warm and replenished. Staff is very friendly and attentive.

« Big Room, Very Clean »

Stayed just one night on our way through and was impressed. Pet friendly, very large room. Ours had 2 queens, a kitchenette and a jacuzzi tub. Nice clean rooms, comfortable beds, parked right outside the door and had an inside door as well to the pool and lobby etc. My only complaint would be hard lumpy pillows and the fridge didn't seem to work but I didn't bother complaining. Breakfast was included but we left without trying it. Very nice, though a little expensive at $170 with our AAA discount but I'm happy to pay for the comfort. With dogs I always try to find a decent motel rather than a hotel for direct outside access. I will definitely be back!

    « Amazing staff !!!!! »

I booked 8 2 bedroom 2 bed Jacuzzi suites on my BW points for my family and friends for new years eve as well as the meeting room. All families with 2+ kids each aged 1 - 14. From the moment we checked in to the moment we checked out our stay was perfect! The front desk staff was extremely friendly and accommodated our every need and more including extending everyone's check outs until 1PM , and giving us until then to clear our stuff from the meeting room. The rooms were huge, clean, non of us encountered any issues with them. There is 2 different pools at the hotel 1 is heated and 1 is not. Our kids stuck to the heated pool. It was nice and quiet and was like having our own private pool. The kids loved it as going from hottub to pool wasn't to cold lol . The meeting room was perfect as we had just over 30 people in it. It had a nice little bar , a bathroom and was tucked away from all rooms so noise could not be an issue. But the highlight for us was the maintenance staff. The 2 gentlemen on duty that afternoon asked if we wanted ice and carried like 4 20 L pails full all the way down to the room and filled our coolers! We asked if there was cable in the room as we would then go to one of our house to get a tv so we could watch the hockey game .lol. They said yes no worries and brought us a huge big screen and hooked it up for us. These guys were awesome and don't worry upon check out I gave them a nice tip :) . Overall , I would recommend this hotel anyone. And I look forward to returning next next years .

« Jacuzzi in my room »

No fighting the crowds although at this time of year nobody is travelling. We were upgraded to our own Jacuzzi and loved it. We stayed here 2 nights looking to find a new home and we found Medicine Hat to be one of the friendliest cities we've visited in the province of Alberta. Thanks BW for helping us feel as though we were home.

    « Great Staff! »

But the room was sub par for the price they charge. Single rooms are small and you can pretty well guarantee you will bang your hip or knee off the TV stand if you get up in the night. It was relatively clean, but had noticeable build up in the hard to clean areas. The bed was quite hard and you can certainly feel the mattress springs. Have stayed at a number of Best Western's and this is by far the worst one I have seen in western Canada. If your going to Medicine Hat - Stay somewhere else.

    « Pleasant Stay »

Very pleasant and helpful staff. Breakfast was very busy with several hockey teams, conference attendees and other visitors. Small dining area but people were able to move in and out quickly. The food attendant was kept very busy but did a great job keeping up. The room I stayed in was very nice, clean and very spacious. Two other parties stayed at the same hotel because I was there but their rooms were small. However we were all able to stay in the same hotel. It was a very busy weekend for the city.

« Very nice place to stay »

I have stayed here many times and always have a good experience. The staff are friendly, the room is clean and breakfast is superb. It has easy highway access and although close to a busy road, the rooms seem very quiet. I highly recommend this Best Western as a great place to stay in Medicine Hat and it also provides good value.

« Rooms were big , nice, and clean . »

We stayed in one of their large suites, that had its own king bedroom , 2 Queen beds , and a hidea bed , tall ceilings makes the room feel huge , Nice pool , awesome breakfast hot every morning. very very nice and clean hotel ..

    « Comfortable stay »

Our visit started by being greeted by friendly front desk staff who also gave us directions to find a good eating place within walking distance. It was a pleasure to have temperature controlled air conditioning so we could choose the temperature comfortable for us. We also were pleased that amongst the pillows there was a choice of densities so we could choose the ones that best suited us. The hotel was quiet and we had a good night's sleep. We would definitely stay at Sun Country again.

    « Go somewhere else »

Worst hotel ever. Checked out after one night it was so bad. Horrible saggy bed, lumpy smelly pillows, bugs in bathroom, HVAC didnt work properly, bad lighting to get ready with. Better to hit the drivethrough at McDonalds than eat their free breakfast. So not what I expect from a Best Western Plus.

    « Stopover »

We were upgraded to a room with a jacuzzi, fireplace and poolside. There were fresh baked cookies at the front desk. There is some street noise but it's not too bad. Check in was quick and friendly. Hotel is changing ownership this night but did not affect our stay.

    « good location, accommodating »

This was a stay required for a quick visit to an elderly family member. The location was excellent for that purpose right on the trans-Canada highway, and hotel staff was accommodating when we had to change our room for the second night. It is a hotel that has been added onto several times it seems, and there are a couple of separate buildings as well with motel-like rooms, which makes the hotel seem chopped up and the set-up somewhat remote.

« Best Western Medicine Hat »

Stopped overnight during trip west. This hotel is a Best Western Plus but is older. Although rooms were clean and welcoming they are smaller then many "Plus'" we have stayed at recently. Compared to other Best Western Plus we found the breakfast selection not as abundant as other "Plus'" where we have stayed. The price was higher then what we would have expected due to age and breakfast selection. The hotel is very convenient to the highway and staff very friendly.

« Stay in Medicine Hat »

All the staff and the hotel were very good. The hot breakfast was very good with many choices. The price was better than any comparable hotel in the area. Excellent value and would recommend this hotel to friends and family.

    « Medicine Hat »

Hotel is clean and well kept except it is getting a bit old and original layout is poor. Having said that, it is still a very comfortable place to stay. The original design appears to have had continued add-ons so the hallways are very long with minor ramps to compensate for the fact that it is built on upward grade. It has no elevator so it is a walkup. I hear they are planning to renovate. That would be good.

« My stay at Best Westeren Hotels »

I often stay at Best Western Hotels for business however this past September while traveling to BC and back we stayed in Medicine Hat Alberta and were very pleased with the location of the hotel, how clean everything was and the continental breakfast was so very handy as we were able to get going back on the highway without having to go to a restaurant for breakfast. It saved a lot of time for us.
