    « What a brilliant place. »

Just returned from an overnight DB&B stay at this place having purchased a deal from an advertising site. Situated minutes from the M74 this place is outstanding. Service, accommodation and food all exceptional. Brilliant scenery and the dining room looks out to the gardens. Seating also available outside with even the ground floor rooms having a small seating area outside. Could not hear any motorway traffic from the hotel at all. It looks this this place has recently been renovated and they have done a really good job. We certainly will be visiting again.

    « Overnight stay »

My husband and I stayed overnight on a DBB package at this lovely hotel. All public areas are nice and clean. The restaurant has a great view. We upgraded to a superior room which was spacious and had patio doors opening onto a nice seating area overlooking fields and beyond. This was a great bonus as it was a lovely sunny day so we could take advantage of it. Although this was a superior room it was quite dated, furniture and light fittings etc, but still comfortable. Glen kindly showed us around some of the other rooms that had been refurbished and had been done so to a high standard. Unfortunately the upgrade to one of these rooms did not extend to the package that we were on but would bear it in mind for any future visits. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner here and all the food is great quality with a good selection. All of the staff are friendly and helpful and service was excellent at each meal. We had a very enjoyable stay and would definitely recommend this hotel.

We stayed at this hotel 19-21 April as part of our wedding package. We were married at Comlongon Castle and had our wedding breakfast at the hotel. We had an amazing few days here and cannot fault the hotel. On arrival we were made to feel very welcome and were extremely impressed with the rooms. We had one of the wedding suites which was extremely comfortable and tastefully decorated. My mum had a lovely ground floor room with a patio, again this was a spacious and comfortable room. The food at the hotel is lovely and a good selection for your evening meals and the Scottish breakfast is very tasty! The food served for our wedding breakfast after the ceremony was fantastic and I'm pleased to say that everyone was impressed with it and also the attentiveness of the staff even though there was another larger function in the hotel, we were never made to feel like a lesser party. I would highly recommend this hotel to others and we look forward to returning for our anniversary. Thank you to all the staff for making our day so special.

Fabulous few days spent at the Dryfsdale for our wedding over the weekend of 7th of April 2018.. Friends and family all commented on how lovely the hotel was and how attentive the staff were. The food served in restaurant and at wedding breakfast was amazing . The rooms were of excellent standard , particularly our beautiful bridal suite. Particular praise to James, Roger and Lynne for making our wedding unforgettable.

Stayed here this weekend 16/3/18 for 2 nights. Absolutely fantastic, we were upgraded to a Superior suite as it was our friends 70th Birthday, it was ground floor, but what an amazing view, looking out of double patio doors, and to be able to walk out onto the patio, and even sit out there and have a coffee, was amazing. The restaurant had the same view. It was lovely looking out of the windows at the view, especially seeing the snow coming down, it was fab. The staff were all brilliant, nothing was a trouble to any one of them. I even saw a cleaning lady help take a case to reception for an old lady to check out. The evening meal was delicious, as was the breakfast in the morning. Rooms were nice and clean, beds were very comfy, and an abundance of red hot water. Hats off to Glen and all the staff at the hotel for the work they put in. All in all , a fabulous stay, and will definitely be back. 10/10

« Great hotel and great staff »

We stayed there for my mums wedding. Rooms were very nice and the hotel staff were very friendly and extremely accommodating to my difficult family. They took care of us the whole Weekend, gave us helpful local tips of where to ho and food was nice. Thanks again

« Comfortable, relaxing stay, excellent. »

A group of us got a deal for 2 nights B&B with dinner on one night. The staff were very good and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The food was excellent, we all had a great time. I would recommend this hotel most highly.

« Lovely place to est »

We recently had a family meal and were not disappointed. The steaks were delicious, as was the stuffed chicken and the butternut squash risotto. The sweets were also very good snd it was all very well presented. The prices are fair and the service was good and friendly. The only negative was that the restaurant lacked a little atmosphere; that said we will definitely go again.

    « From our daughter...age 16 »

We were here with 20 high school age girls, our chaperones and coaches for an ice skating competition. It was unlike any other hotel we've ever been in, and many of us said it was the best that we've ever stayed in. The employees were great; they were fantastic and very friendly, and made service something to look forward to. Additionally, the food was great! Meals were delicious and were beautifully prepared. Rooms were comfortable and homely, and gave the appearance of a traditional Scottish residence while also having cool amenities like towel heaters. And the views at this hotel-Breathtaking. Sunrises, sunsets, and the beautiful green hills made this hotel an even more ideal place to stay. Overall, staying at this hotel was the best place we could have stayed. If we come to compete in Scotland again, the only place I would want to reside in would be this hotel.

    « Service with a smile »

Having spent 2 nights at this Hotel this time last year, we felt we had to go back again this year. Ok it was with a "Deal" that we went there, but we were never treated any different. Both myself and my Wife have been delighted with the friendliness of the Staff, this as well as the food is the reasons we went back this year and fully intend to go back again next year. Special thank you to Carl, James and John who could not do enough for us

« Above average hotel, excellent management! (& staff) »

We stayed on a Sunday night for an early birthday treat before the lambing season begins. We were met with a friendly and efficient check-in from the young man on reception, who then showed us to our room, after booking us a table for dinner. The room was lovely, as were all the public areas, restaurant and lounge. The meal was delicious, Dryfesdale Burger and Vegetable Sizzler. Bread and dipping oil/balsamic whilst we waited for food to arrive was much enjoyed. Chocolate brownie was the best I've had and a decent portion, unlike a lot of places where it's only enough for a gnat with anorexia! A great night's sleep followed by a great breakfast served by a very friendly waitress. Nothing was too much trouble. Glen the manager showed us round his hotel after we got chatting and his pride in his hotel and high standards were very evident. We would recommend this hotel to anyone and can't wait to return. The ground floor rooms with patio doors and views look most tempting!

    « Quick stay »

Stayed here for the night while passing through. I thought I would stay in Lockerbie itself but the town is very small with just a couple of pubs so I decided to stay in the slightly nicer hotel just out of town. As you drive up the hotel sits nicely with its own private road. Inside is clean and a pleasant welcome. The staff were all attentive and pleasant. The room itself was clean but getting a tad dated. That said the bed was extremely comfy and a great nights sleep. Black out curtains and a fantastic shower. I'd say it was a good three star hotel by measure. Gave 4 above as it's closer to 4 than 3 :) Ate in the restaurant, very nice. Others around me looked good too. Only a small bar in the corner of the restaurant though. Worth a visit if you are passing through

    2
« Average hotel but poor management »

I always try to be honest when writing reveiws and always base them on my experience of the stay. Originally we only planned to stay one night as we were attending a surprised birthday party, but we decided to make a weekend of it and booked for three nights. We also decided to upgrade to a executive room for a extra £30 a night. On check-in the manager seemed nice enough, checked us in and took us to our room. First impression was nice hotel and a just about ok room. The room on inspection wasn't the cleanest but acceptable. There was nowhere to really put your suitcase as the wardrobe was cluttered with stuff, e.g. heater, tower fan, pillows, iron, hairdryer, etc. After the first night, where we were woken up on numerous occasions by other guest and squeaky floorboards, we decided to go into Lockerbie for breakfast as we didn't think the hotel breakfast was value for money. We returned to the hotel and decided to get some sleep, we put on the do not disturb sign, but unfortunately got very little sleep thanks to the cleaner and the squeaky floorboards. Later that night, friends joined us at the hotel, and we had drinks, which was very pleasant sat next to a log fire. It was then we decided to change our plans and go Glasgow for the new year. I asked reception about the cancellation policy and we were told to see the manager in the morning. In the morning I spoke to James, and fair play we were offered a part refund, but would still have to pay Booking.coms fee. I said I didn't want anyone to be out of pocket because we changed our plans and I paid the full price of £327 and told them we would pick our bags up the next morning. We went out for the day, and with my wife still seething for what was certainly not value for money, we decided to return and get our stuff and check out early. Unfortunately for the manager, my wife was still not happy about the room and she challenged him about the room and the price. It worked out that we didn't get the executive room because of a coach load of Chinese people coming in and they can be very noisy (nice way for the manager to talk about paying customers to other guests). Asked why we were still charged for the executive room, when we were in a standard double room, apparently they had been trying to contact us for two days and described my wife has the Scarlett Pimpernel, even though I spoke to reception on a few occasions, (we had drinks at the bar and there is a telephone in the room). I find it very hard to believe that we were not contactable. Unfortunately Glen, I found you patronising, arrogant and extremely unprofessional, and you would blame anyone else for your mistakes rather than taking responsibility for them . Your offer of a cheap bottle of house wine as an apology was pointless as we wont be returning! We did get the £90 overcharge refunded. Overall £79 for the hotel was probably right, for the room I wouldn't pay more than £55, and based on customer service, you would have to pay me!

    « Beautiful Christmas Lunch »

Attended this hotel with family today for Christmas lunch. Welcomed at the door by staff and shown into an ante room with a beautiful log fire. We had a leisurely drink before being shown to the dining room. The food was superb. Staff extremely welcoming and very slick service. Louise looked after our table and she was very efficient. Will definitely visit this hotel again. We've had a wonderful experience.

    « Business Trip - Return Leg »

A great hotel just outside Lockerbie. A really nice looking hotel set in its own grounds. The rooms are fantastic, spacious and warm (remember it is December). Ate in the hotel restaurant and again the food was wonderful. My only criticism is that the hotel bar is within the restaurant - yet the comfy seating area is located the other side of the reception. However, this will not deter me returning.

« Didn't get to stay due to incorrect pet policy online »

I booked this for a stop over whilst moving house, along with my dog. Booked via Trivago which specified on its website that the hotel was pet friendly (see photo). The next day (Sunday) I was rung at 9.30pm by the Hotel! I wasn't answering at that time of night so they left a message saying to call them. I rang them the following day and they proceeded to grill me about why I had thought that I could bring a dog to the hotel when it didn't allow them. I didn't get 'Oh I'm sorry Madam, but there seems to be a mix up...' etc etc. No! I was grilled about it. When I tried to explain that it was on the Trivago website the man just kept telling me to look at their own website for policies and that dogs weren't allowed. I finished the conversation saying that they needed to take it up with Trivago and that I'd just cancel the booking which I immediately did. VERY poor rude service and am glad that I'm now booked in elsewhere, which is pet friendly and also much cheaper and nicer!

« Excellent Alternative to Premier Inn »

Staying away a lot with work the easiest option has always been to default to Premier Inn. However, their prices are ridiculously high for what you get so thought that i would look elsewhere. I found Dryfesdale Country House Hotel through the Best Western website and thought that i would give it a try. Best decision i made last week as it turns out. Although from the outside it isn't obvious that you are at the right place due to lack of signs it becomes apparent as soon as you enter the building and the gentleman on reception was very polite and attentive. I was shown to my room rather than being pointed in the right direction and made to feel like a guest rather than a customer. I decided to dine in the onsite restaurant, which wasn't the hardest choice ever seeing how there was no other option, as it turns out i was quite impressed with the quality of the food served. I opted for the soup of the day which actually tasted homemade even though i am fairly sure it won't have been followed by a delicious burger. The bed was comfy enough but the pillows, although plenty of them were a little feeble and had to be repeatedly rearranged to get settled. Breakfast started well the next morning with a continental option being offered where the bar was the night previous which was well stocked and looked very appealing. I went for the cooked breakfast option though which sounded very tempting. I was brought fresh toast and coffee to my table before the server took my order. It was a full Scottish breakfast option so Haggis and Potato Scone was included with other items that you would expect with the exception of Beans. Beans it turns out is quite an important part of a breakfast which i didn't fully realise until this week. In summary; i would certainly stay here again but would opt for the continental breakfast option or none at all and get something down the road for less in the future.

Not been here for a while and maybe a while till am back. Although what we had to eat was good it is definitely overpriced. £6 for a large glass of wine !!!! Too much for a glass of wine I think anyway.

« Friendly staff and Plesant surrondings »

We visited the Dryfesdale for Sunday lunch....one thing we noticed was how friendly the staff were The hotel is set in beautiful surroundings not far from the motorway so would be excellent for a stop over or ideal for a break in the country. We noticed also how spotlessly clean the hotel was and high standard of decor. We had a lovely meal only slight criticism is that there could be more vegetables. All in all highly recommended

    5
    « Journey break »

As always the welcome was friendly and efficient, we have stopped here several times over the years. The room was warm and very comfortable and we had a perfect quiet night to sleep and refresh ourselves. Outside our window we had the fun of watching sheep in the field, on previous visits it has been cattle. The food was wonderful and the attention and care given to providing a meal that met with my medical diet was greatly appreciated, not only that the chef went the extra mile to ensure it was tasty and appealing. So very impressed with her thoughtfulness on a busy night. Oh and watch out for the 6:00pm dinner special, it's amazing value

    « Hidden costs!!! »

On arriving at the hotel our check in was quickly handled whereupon we were told the breakfast times and shown to our room. Next morning we felt we were being rushed to eat, staff not overly attentive as such. The following morning we felt more relaxed and had a better selection to eat. On checking out we were presented with the bill for our stay, we discovered we were charged almost £50 extra for 2 nights stay on top of what we were quoted. The only reason we stayed there was because the hotel we originally booked was closed for the weekend as transfer of ownership was occurring. Having worked in hospitality, if someone had booked at a guaranteed price we would honour that price. Dryfesdale didn't disclose to us we'd be charged extra for breakfast. Bad way to run a business as I won't be staying again!!!!

« Excellent hotel and lovely staff »

All the staff were extremely helpful and couldn't do enough for us. Beautiful hotel and scenery. Perfect wedding venue. There really isn't anything negative I could say about our stay. Will definitely be returning!

    « Consistent excellence »

Have been staying at this very relaxing hotel often in the past few weeks (on way to Glasgow for work) and Glen and the rest of the staff are an ideal example of hospitality personified. Always welcoming and going the extra mile (Glen always tries to show you personally to your room) and restaurant staff always pleasant.

We've stayed here before a couple of times and Glen and his staff continue to impress! The hotel has had a makeover since our last visit and looks amazing. The food is excellent and the staff are ALL friendly and helpful. Do yourself a favour a choose this hotel for a stop-over en route to the highlands - you won't be disappointed!! Otherwise you could have your wedding reception here - very popular with beautiful setting! Thanks again.

    « Wedding »

Just got home after getting married in Gretna Green and spending our wedding weekend at The Dryfesdale. We arrived at the hotel on the Friday with our party of 10 and enjoyed a lovely meal in the hotel restaurant. The food was amazing! The hotel rooms were clean and spacious and our bridal suite was fabulous with a terrace overlooking some stunning scenery. We got married on Saturday and then celebrated afterwards at the hotel with a superb wedding breakfast. The staff could not do enough for us to ensure our wedding was beautiful and we have some wonderful memories of the day. We will definitely return!! Thank you all so much. Tracey and Steve xx

    « Fantastic lunch »

Me and my partner called in for lunch on our way up north, the staff were very attentive. The food was lovely as it was the last time we stayed at the hotel. I do believe the hotel has been renovated since we was last here, and looked really nice. Would definitely recommend.

    « Excellent hotel »

We were a big group and had a lovely welcome with helpful staff. The rooms were big and cosy decor. The rooms at the front had a great view. We had circa 20 rooms and everyone was happy. A delicious 3 course meal followed by a retreat into 2 cosy lounge areas. Would definitely visit again.

    « Family wedding »

We have just returned home after a visit to this hotel for a family wedding. The hotel itself was wonderful and the hotel staff were very good. The reason I've given it such a low rating is because of Glenn the general manager. We complained about one of the rooms, wanting to be discreet and not troubling the bride. Glenn however, thought it was a good idea to let her know that her guests were complaining which was unnecessary. He was also rude to my 87 year old grandfather twice during the course of the weekend, once at check-in and again when he asked for some extra plates at breakfast time. If you're not travelling with children and if you don't complain about anything or ask him to go out of his way for you, then he may have been better mannered but he has a very abrupt way about him which is not ideal when you are dealing with customers every day as a job. I must point out that there was a young, very tall waiter with a beard who was excellent and looked after us all weekend. He finished work at 2am and was back in at 7.30am the next day and was still super helpful and very pleasant. His customer service skills were outstanding. Beautiful hotel and location but Glenn should consider a less confrontational approach to his guests.

    « Wedding Guest »

We stayed here for our brothers wedding for the weeekend and it was a perfect location. The hotel was lovely and the wedding reception was beautifully decorated, surrounded by beautiful scenery and easy to get to. Our room was of decent size with an accessible patio area and with all emenities available. The food was hearty and very enjoyable and catered for food allergies which was important to us. The bar staff and waiting on staff were fantastic, always polite and couldn't do enough for us. However the same can not be said for the hospitality manager Glen Wright. He had no manners, was very rude on every occasion we had to speak to him and showed obvious displeasement for our younger guests (flower girls etc) he appeared to be very bad tempered most of the time and didn't even so much as wish you good morning or excuse me if passing you in the corridor. He was unapproachable and made you feel as if the slightest ask was an inconvenience to him. A few comments were made by him because we're English or maybe more specifically because the wedding party and guests were scousers. He was the only let down of the whole weekend. I wouldn't his bad attitude put you off as a place to stay as the hotel is lovely and we would stay here again.

    « Wonderful Hotel »

My husband and I stayed here for one night after a long journey from Norfolk .What an amazing find. From the moment we arrived and greeted by Glen the manager we felt totally relaxed. We were shown to our garden view room and sat outside on the patio drinking wine and taking in the breathtaking views over the hills and the highland cattle. After a delicious meal,we had a really good night's sleep in the comfortable quiet bedroom.Breakfast didn't disappoint either. We left feeling thoroughly refreshed and will definitely return.A big thank you to Glen and all your staff for making our stay so memorable.

« Quiet location and personalised service »

We needed a place to stay to break up my 800-900 mile journey. This was one of the hotels we stayed in on our way back. We quickly got a reply to my email which I sent prior to my stay, something which many hotels fail to do nowadays. I told them I didn't need a cot but would be bringing our own cot. That was acknowledged at check-in, so they have a good notes system. We were quickly greeted by the staff as we entered the hotel, despite having arrived quite early for many hotels. We were guided to our room by a member of staff and were able to book dinner in the restaurant. The room was fairly modern which is quite good for a very old country house. We wanted to go out and explore so we asked the Manager where there was somewhere to walk nearby. He recommended the Eskrigg nature reserve, so we went out there. (There is nothing much to do in Lockerbie or near the hotel). But the purpose of our stay was a quiet location really and it was something different to stay in a small compact country house with personalised service. We were greeted well to dinner and the manager quickly addressed putting the baby in a suitable non-hazardous location in the restaurant without us prompting or hinting to him. The baby and both of us had a really relaxed meal in the restaurant. The staff were young but really happy and welcoming. The food was like a top restaurant. The meals were delivered very quickly. Wifi was a bit flaky at times. As a Fairmont Platinum customer and Best Western Platinum customer I have very high standards. Whilst this is not really a comparitive hotel to the Fairmont chain, I really respect the different sort of service and hotel this place offered.

    « 1st Class Borders Hotel »

I always enjoy staying at this gem of a hotel a couple of times a year en route to Scotland. Based just by the M74 and an hour's drive from Glasgow this is independently run hotel makes a change from the usual chains. The rooms are good, the food excellent but above the service is outstanding

« Great management from Glen! »

I stayed at this hotel over the weekend for my friend's wedding and we had a very professional and warm welcome from the staff. The place was tidy and all our requests were met. The wedding reception was beauitifully decorated by the staff. A special thanks to the manager Glen for his outstanding work as he was multitasking all weekend fixing things, working on reception and making sure we had our drinks topped up. Thank you!

    « LOVELY VIEWS »

Pleasant hotel with wonderful views. Staff very friendly and helpful. We arrived at 8.45pm and they made sure we got a table in the restaurant which finished serving at 9.00pm. Rooms clean with tea and coffee making facilities. A little disappointed that the breakfast was buffet style but food was ok.

    « Fabulous stopover »

Love this place, well situated, peaceful surrounding despite just off motorway. Love it as a stopover driving up to Scotland. Food is great but best of all, it's homely and staff make you feel so welcome.

    « Disappointed »

We were given this short break as a gift from family. Very disappointed overall. Room tiny with a view of a fence! Beautiful setting for the hotel but feel rooms added to gain more revenue rather than for customer comfort or satisfaction. Restaurant good if you eat meat but definitely lacks when it comes to vegetarians. A take it of leave it attitude. And breakfast for vegetarians is boring. Basically veggies get everybody else's accompaniments. No 'star of the show' for us. No veggie sausages. Have stayed in lesser starred hotels and they manage to cater for vegetarians much better than this so called 4 star hotel. Staff overall friendly apart from one very grumpy waitress who was quite rude and didn't seem to even want to be there. Again, just making what should have been a relaxing break an uncomfortable one. I wouldn't stay here again and would think twice before booking with Best Western, a little too old-fashioned in their approach and catering for vegetarians.

    « Wonderful! »

We had our wedding at the Dryfesdale in April, the rooms were comfortable, the staff were lovely and so helpful through out the day and the whole stay. They were incredibly accommodating and patient with the younger children we had with us. The food was exquisite!! The breakfasts through to the evening meals and most especially the wedding meal. The hotel is close to Lockerbie if you need the shops, and the surrounds to the hotel were just beautiful. We all enjoyed watching the cattle in the fields and the rabbits and squirrels in the grounds. Over all for what we wanted out of our stay we could not fault the hotel. Thank you.

    « Our daughters wedding »

Our daughter had her wedding reception at this lovely hotel. The venue is amazing, The food was outstanding, and the management and staff could not have been more helpful. My husband and I stayed for 3 nights here, and would highly recommend it. If you like a hotel with highland cows grazing in the fields nearby and an abundance of wildlife, this hotel has it all. Well done Dryfesdale Country House Hotel.

The room was tastefully decorated with a nice bathroom. The hotel was conveniently of it located on Route 74. Good food with generous helpings. All in all a lovely stay.

Bring your own decoration for the room to jush it up for a wedding. Breakfast was good. John the bar man excellent at recommending local attractions and whisky. Lovely fella. All is all was great though it's really quite and not much going on locally.

    « A Warm Welcome. »

We recently had our 5th visit to this hotel as we have a relative living nearby so use it when we go to see her. As usual it was a warm experience in every way. The hotel itself is always clean and comfortable and the food is well cooked and excellent value for money. The soups are our particular favourites - every one is hearty and delicious! But what really stands out on every occasion is the friendliness of the staff. You are greeted warmly, nothing is too much trouble and they interact with guests without being intrusive. We recently celebrated a simple family lunch there and they made it very special for us. Thank you to all at the Dryfesdale and we will be back soon.

    « Great welcome »

A great place to stop en route north or south just off the motorway. Welcome by receptionist Sarah super and promising of a great stay. Reception very dark and needs cheering up! However, the superior double room on ground floor overlooking the garden was superb. Unfortunately the shower screen is inadequate and the great power shower floods the bathroom floor! Dinner was fine, great antipasti but tagliatelle was very stodgy. We ordered coffee at the table but it never arrived, so we went looking for it 20 minutes later. The male, ? Manager who we found at reception, thought it was amusing, as it was "change over time" so all the staff had disappeared. We had an early start so we were keen to get to bed reasonably early. It was 21.20, perhaps we should have expected to get forgotten!? When he eventually brought the coffee in a jug, it was like flavoured water and not drinkable. We had an instant in the room instead. Breakfast was fine, and when we checked out, the male receptionist obviously didn't care to chat much. As the bill was £247 for 1 nights stay, a little smile might have been in order as a sign of appreciation for our custom.

    « Simple but lovely »

Stayed here for on a Friday night with my friend and it couldn't have been nicer. Really good value for the money we paid and it was last minute through booking.com. Dinner was beautiful and they had a really good steak deal on 2 steaks and wine for £30. We also had breakfast which was freshly cooked and hot even though we were the last at breakfast. Would definitely book here again .

    « 2 night voucher deal »

Staff are a credit to this hotel. From check in till check out they were very friendly and attentive. Had a 2 night stay on a voucher deal, due to bringing my friends dog we had to pay to upgrade to a garden room at a cost of £20 a night and £5 a night for the dog. The room was a good size with a door leading to a patio area and garden. Patio had a small table n chairs to sit and enjoy the view. Twin room was clean and tidy. Wardrobe with plenty coat hangers, spare duvet and blanket. Bedside tables on each side, good vanity area and full size mirror. Large tv with good range of channels. Bathroom was spacious with good selection of complimentary toiletries. Good heating with thermostat in room and bathroom. Hospitality tray and full size kettle, iron and hairdryer all in room. Beds not the most comfortable but bedding cosy. Powerful shower and easy temperature control. 2 course set dinner limited in choice and small portions but tasty and served with a smile. Bread basket put on table had 2 small slice of bread, why bother?? But staff supplied another 2 slice when asked as the soup starter didn't come with any bread or roll. Main of steak and ale pie with veg and new potatoes was small but lovely and tasty. No pudding included unless you pay between £5 and £7. Bottle of cider was just under £5 a bottle. Staff were great, friendly and attentive and in no way rush you. Lounge area very nice and looked comfortable but we weren't allowed in there with the dog, in fact there is nowhere in the hotel to sit with your dog except your room, i did hear they were to stop accepting dogs soon. Views are amazing and the grounds are well kept with seating areas and a putting green. Plenty parking available. Only 5 mins drive into Lockerbie. Annan is a nice town to visit and nearby too. I would return and would recommend this hotel.

    « Very Nice! »

We received a two night stay as a gift and enjoyed it so much we stayed another night. We upgraded to a garden room with a patio and the view was gorgeous. Although you could see the B076 in the distance and could hear the traffic, it's not bad enough to distract from all the positives this place has to offer. The room was large and clean, bed was spacious and comfy, and the shower was powerful and fantastic. I would just suggest that if you are elderly or have mobility issues to request a handicapped room as the tub/shower is very tall to step in and out of with no grab bars on the wall. Staff was attentive and friendly and food was great. We will definitely be staying here again!!!!

« Beautiful countryside setting but near town »

The garden rooms with patios are definitely worth the extra cost. Well furnished spacious rooms with large comfortable beds, good central heating ( although it was noisy and we did report this) toiletries and tea making facilities provided. Very clean throughout. Food was nice but as we were there on a voucher deal there was a three pound supplement for each main course if you wanted a "large" portion which was actually just a normal sized portion. A pity, this small detail gave the impression of penny pinching. although it was still good value. Nice breakfast and charming staff if somewhat dour manager.

    « Great stay »

We stayed for 2 nights as a result of being given a voucher for Christmas and were well impressed. From being greeted in a friendly professional manner and being shown to our room the stay was excellent from start to finish. Room 21 gave us a garden view with opening doors onto a patio. Sadly the rain hardly stopped for the 3 days and this prevented us exploring the beautiful grounds but did not spoil a really enjoyable stay. Had dinner both nights and breakfast both mornings....all the food was excellent. The breakfast was really impressive and filled us up for most of the day.Overall it was a first class stay and would highly recommend.

« Good value on living social voucher deal »

Four of us stayed two nights in two twin rooms. We had to upgrade and pay the supplement to do so. Rooms were spacious and clean with nice touches with toiletries and tea/coffee.. Mattresses have seen better days and the beds were short-I'm 5 9 and my feet were out the end! What a powerful shower! We had dinner on the first night as part of the deal. A limited choice/on the set menu and a £6 credit towards something from the a la carte seemed tight! It barely covered the cost of a starter. The food was good and enjoyed. Two of us swapped onto the steak night deal which was good value but we gained the impression (from the bill) the staff were coached to upsell given the way "would you like a sauce" was presented indicating it was included. £3 added to the bill showed that was correct. The steaks were well cooked though. Alas there is a lack of flexibility and no alternative was available to tomatoes as an accompaniment. Perhaps deals being slightly dearer would allow the chef a better budget for meals and minimise the sense of tightness. It was this and the limited menu options that made us to decide to eat elsewhere on the second night -we walked to Lockerbie town which took about 25 minutes. The set menu had no vegetarian options-removing fish from the pasta of the day does not count! That was the only option provided. (Veggie sausages may be something to think about for breakfast) Breakfast was good with a wide choice of cooked goods, pastries, fruit and cereal. Gutted to hear potato scones are usually on the menu-they weren't last weekend! Staff very friendly and helpful

Was given a voucher as a gift to stay here. Although we booked a standard room we were given a garden room which was lovely, was just a shame it was raining so couldn't sit out. Room was spacious if a bit dated but bed was comfortable and everywhere was clean. Complimentary toiletries in bathroom and tea making facilities in room. 2 comfortable lounges th the hotel to sit and relax. We ate dinner in the hotel and it was delicious and busy with locals so just goes to show it's good. Was not sure what to expect but pleasantly surprised with our visit.

    « Great hotel »

My husband and I stayed here for a few days whilst visiting my son in Lockerbie. We were met by very helpful staff and shown to a lovely room with a fantastic view of the countryside..even though it was very cold the whole place was snugly warm. We had breakfast which was scrumptious with a lot of choice and the haggis was delicious..we wished we could have stayed longer and cannot praise this hotel enough .

    « Wonderful!!! »

We had our room booked for us through Gretna Green Wedding Bureau as part of their package and we stayed here the day before and day of our wedding and it was amazing. A beautiful hotel in a stunning area. From the moment we arrived the staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. We were helped to our room by the Manager who greeted us at reception. The room was breath-taking. Separate living area to the bedroom. Door which led to a a little seating area over looking fields and more fields. The bed was a 4 poster - comfortable sofas - just perfect. Perfect place to get ready for our wedding day and perfect place to come back too. The bar was very stylish and comfortable. Reataurant was great. Great food and great staff (highly recommend their homemade bread, homemade soup and cooked breakfasts). We will be back.

    « Wedding Venue »

This place is simply beautiful. We had a garden room which had a place to sit outside with a table and chairs which overlooked fields and trees which were in full autumnal colours. The room was exceptionally large. The TV was huge which kept our son entertained in the evenings. Tea and coffee making facilities and even hot chocolate! I've never stayed in a Best Western but will look for more of them in the future as the staff and service was excellent. We were there for a wedding and nothing was too much trouble. The prices in the bar and restaurant are very reasonable. The site of this hotel was picture perfect! Easy road access into Lockerbie town and Dumfries.

Just come back from 2 day stay where Stepson had his wedding reception. Most of wedding party stayed and we had a thoroughly great time . Room was great ( room 12 ) with huge bed and nice shower room . No mini bar but no big deal . Bar was excellent particularly John on the first night . Good draft beer and huge selection of Whiskey. Had reception in large conservatory which was perfect for about 30 guests . Very handy off Motorway which was welcome after a 7 1/2 hour hell drive from Bristol. Thanks to the staff

« Clean room, friendly staff, ok food. »

Arrived here for 5 days on business. Clean hotel set in the country side. Not much in any direction. My room was clean. I'm not too bothered about standard of rooms, however, I'd consider this high and luxurious. Squeeky bed got a bit annoying.

Arrived at hotel about 16:30 hrs on spec for a one night stay. No one on reception, bar / restaurant not open, kitchen / offices in darkness. No one about. Waited, rang reception bell and finally rangvthd hotel landline. Assistant manager arrived and checked me in. Given room 11 which was in a lively setting with patio doors, double bed, settee, en-suite. Hotel did arise from hibernation later and I had a lovely meal in their restaurant. I missed breakfast by 10 minutes but staff were ready to accommodate me with any thing I wanted. Second BW hotel I stayed in during week long Scottish holiday. Recommended.

« Very Comfortable Overnight Stay »

Very comfortable one night stay on our way to the Highlands. A good 'Best Western' standard and the hotel is dog friendly. We didn't have dinner but the food looked very good as we passed through the restaurant, and was reasonably priced. The reception manager was very welcoming and dealt with all our needs. There are rooms that open directly on to the garden, it is worth asking for one if you bring a dog.

    « FAN BLOOMING TASTIC »

It was just great from walking in the door to the minute we left. From the owner to the chamber maids everyone was friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious and plenty of it. My brother has been telling me to go and stay when we go to Scotland so this time we did, and I am so happy that we did. Some places do not have there heating on to the snow falls but this hotel was lovely and warm throughout. The room I had was the bridal suite number 4 because the hotel was full and that was the only one, all I can say "WOW" Stay there and you will not be disappointed.

    « Excellent Hotel »

We returned for our 5th Wedding Anniversary, and again we were not disappointed. Since our last visit some of the room had been redecorated and our 4 poster room was decorated with a gorgeous 3d design wallpaper. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean. We ate both evenings in the restaurant and again the quality and quantity of food had remained the same i.e. Superb without being overly expensive despite having a varied range of choice available. All the staff we encountered were again friendly, helpful and polite. So our return after 5 years felt no different to all our previous visits as we were made to feel totally at home and treated as though we were valued customers.

« Great Staff, Great Hotel »

After a long day arriving late in the night after making a very short notice booking for the night directly with the hotel I was extremely tired and the staff could not do enough to welcome me. I was really well looked after by the receptionist and could not praise her enough. The morning was brought with great views in a fantastic rustic/rural location. Breakfast was great with fast service and great freshly cooked breakfast.

    « Disappointing Wedding Reception »

I would like to make a complaint about the Dryfesdale. When I booked my reception there I was told that the reception would end at midnight but residents of the hotel could continue to drink quietly in the hotel bar after this. I persuaded my guests to stay at the hotel (which is lovely, but quite pricey!) based on this. On the day, they shut the reception down at midnight and then refused to serve drinks at the hotel bar. I would not have chosen them for a 17:00 wedding had I known they would do this, and I certainly wouldn't have insisted my friends pay for a more expensive hotel! It cut short the end of my day (which is an expensive and once in a lifetime opportunity) Obviously this complaint cannot be resolved perfectly (as we can't go back in time!) but I think it's disgusting that they lied about their facilities when I chose them. What is fair compensation for lying to me about a facility (which was a deciding factor in my choice of reception hotel) and ruining the end of my wedding? Well, according to their reply email, it's a £40 refund for a bottle of champagne that should have been in my hotel room in the first place, but was forgotten. I feel they have ignored my actual complaint completely. The manager referenced the fact that some of my guests had brought alcohol with them (and they agreed to share this amongst the guests in their rooms) as if this made the unexpected closure of the bar acceptable. BE CAREFUL IF YOU BOOK A WEDDING HERE, THEY CAN CHANGE THE DEAL WITHOUT INFORMING YOU. DON'T BE DISAPPOINTED ON YOUR SPECIAL DAY.

« Only the Early Bird catches the sausage »

It was difficult getting accommodation in the area but we were pleased to find Dryfesdale. The next morning we were delighted to leave it. Poorly stocked hot buffet breakfast and an uncomfortable bed had us grumpy. It started well the previous evening, dinner was adequate, staff were excellent and especially helpful. Tired and dated furniture in a newly decorated room, a bathroom with several maintenance issues. It could have been so much better. We will not return as we though it was an over priced (double £132/night) experience.

    « Wedding Reception »

Stayed here 25th and 26th August for my daughter's wedding at Comlongon Castle followed by reception at the Dryfesdale. Although I had booked a single room, I was pleasantly surprised to be given a spacious room with a double bed. Handy hint, don't panic if you can't find the kettle, it is hidden in the cabinet under the TV ! The hotel is clean and bright, set in lovely grounds with amazing views. The staff are friendly and deal quickly with any requests. My daughter was given every assistance, and was delighted with her room (18). The staff dealt efficiently with the reception, it was a late wedding and so food was served promptly in order that celebrations could begin. The conservatory where our reception was held was beautiful, with stunning views. The meal was good for wedding fayre and cleared quickly. Breakfasts were good, the coffee was lovely and they were happy to give me a tray so that I could sit outside and soak up the view. I would like to thank all the staff for ensuring that my daughter's wedding day was all she could have hoped for.

    « 2 night stay »

from the outside the hotel looked amazing, the views and location where perfect. We had three rooms of which two where with views and the third room was small with a frosted window looking into the kitchen, we paid the same price for all three, the rooms with the view where really warm with the heating on full, this was unnecessary as it was August??? We was unable to open the windows as the flies and wasps would come in. The food was fantastic unfortunately the flies where a problem. What I found shocking was the cutlery and crockery where made up after the evening meal ready for breakfast this allowed the flies to crawl all over everything, Please do not reply with the same response from the other review about the flies as you should have procedures in place to stop the flies, ie air conditioning, electronic fly killers, and to be honest you wouldn't have enough fly spray to kill them there was that many, it is a real shame because it is a beautiful hotel, apart from one staff member who needs a lesson in customer care.

    « Wedding reception »

We had our wedding reception here, friendly staff who did everything we asked. Food was excellent, service was also excellent, for those getting married at Gretna it is only 20 minutes away for the receptions and the views are well worth it. Breakfast was tasty, though not sure haggis will catch on south of the border...

    « Restaurant »

Called in for lunch. Food good but terrible problem with flies in the restaurant. Makes you wonder how clean the place is with so many flies in the restaurant. It doesn't really create a comfortable eating environment swatting flies through dinner. Shame could probably be half decent.

Our daughter was married in August at the Anvil Hall in Gretna Green and the reception was held at Dryfesdale Country House - everything went well it was so organised - I want to thank Glen and all the staff who worked really hard to make this a memorable day for Lucy and Sean. Some of the family stayed overnight and the breakfast next morning was excellent - well done to everyone a the best Western Linda & Ray Redford

« Fabulous Hotel for our wedding »

We stayed at the Dryfsdale Hotel with our guests for our wedding in Gretna Green. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the location was beautiful. The hotel is very well kept, there are lovely touches like the extra long hanging closest in the bridal suite so that you can hang 'the dress'. The private dining room for the wedding breakfast was light and well presented and the perfect size for our party. There are three different areas I believe for different size weddings. The food both in the restaurant, where we ate the first night, and for the wedding reception was delicious. The best things of all though is the staff who are so helpful. They made us feel very special and could not do enough to help. they were especially good with my 92 year old mother, making her plane cheese sandwiches when nothing else would suit her. Thank you to all for making our stay so magical. Melanie & Keith Langley

    « ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!! »

We stayed here as part of our wedding package. All I can say is WOW!!! Glen and his team provide the highest quality of service, in every aspect possible. The room we stayed in was the bridal suite and was the nicest, most comfortable room we have ever stayed in. Very upmarket feel and the room is really great for wedding prep. The on site restaurant not only catered to my gluten free request but blew me away with just how much food I could eat and how well it was cooked. Glen, especially is the shining star of this place. Highly efficient, super super helpful, quite funny and just generally a really great person!!! He keeps this place in A1 condition and it's a massive credit to him, his wife and all of the staff. My only negative is that I can't live here. Next time I am in Scotland, this will be my FIRST stop!!!!

    « Lovely hotel »

Having just come back from four days at the hotel I just wanted to write to say what a wonderful hotel this is. Arriving at the hotel earlier after travelling seven hours through the night the staff did their very best to accommodate us with an early check in which was wonderful. The room we stayed in during our stay was a garden room which had lovely views of the countryside and a nice little area to sit out in which was lovely especially in the evenings and early mornings. The staff and the food were a credit to the hotel, the staff work so hard yet are always so polite and friendly, one staff member ? I think it was Leigh went above and beyond and was always so friendly. The food was very tasty and you certainly got value for money, the steak night was certainly popular with the group I was with ? 2 steaks and a bottle of wine for £20. The reason we stayed at the hotel was for a wedding on the Saturday, the wedding food was again lovely, the sorbet served with the melon was the best I have evert tasted !! It was also nice to have a nice area outside the hotel where we all could sit having a few drinks in the sun. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel and if I am ever in Scotland again I hope to again visit the Dryfesdale.

What a beautiful place. Just returned from a wedding on Friday and cannot say a bad thing about this place really. We had a really lovely room the furnishings are lovely and the bed was very comfy. All the mod cons you need Iron, hairdryer, TV plus all the luxury freebies of shampoo, etc even a sewing kit which came in handy! The food was excellent I had penne carbonara on our first evening and it was lovely. We also had the reception for the wedding there and the food again was amazing...Melon followed by Roast beef dinner which was beautiful, finished off with a lemon sponge mousse mmmmmmm??. Also the location was a perfect setting for the wedding photos rolling hills a plenty! Staff were brilliant and made sure everything went to plan. Would highly recommend for any potential brides and grooms or even if you just fancy a weekend away in the most stunning location!

    « overpriced rooms »

Dissapointted at the cost of rooms. Attendedd a wedding reception where rooms were discounted due to block booking but for £125 per garden room, there was no shower gel, only one biscuit on hospitality tray, no bottled water in room. Some light bulbs on bed lights not working and sink in bathroom was very slow to empty. These are things which should be picked up on a daily basis and should not require to be reported. The actual wedding reception and the public areas were lovely although the breakfast tables were tightly packed. Would have benefited from a pot of hot water on the table as coffee was eyewateringly strong. Some people were travelling a distance to reception and a family member had phoned to ask if it was possible to get some food prior to recption which started at 7.30pm. The answer was that no it wasnt possible and wouldnt they be getting food at wedding. I felt this was unnecessarily rude for a hotel redeption. Having said all that, staff were pleasant and worked like trojans.

    « In need of a renovation »

We stayed here for one night in July. The furniture & bathroom were a little worn and in need of a refresh. We only had towels for one person in the room and those were stained - this was sorted after complaining, but the replacement towels were damp! Based on the above we decided not to eat breakfast at the hotel & instead ate at the truck stop 8 minutes up the road, excellent quality for half the price.

    « Fantastic meal deal »

Called in for an evening meal and we were delighted to find a 6 o'clock meal deal. If you order a two course meal before 7pm you get charged the time you ordered ie, order at 6.30 it will cost £6.30, drinks are extra. The food was good and service with a smile.

« Friendly hotel with high standards. »

I ended up at the dryfesdale by accident as I couldn't find any accommodation in Dumfries where I was working. This turned out to be a blessing as the hotel turned out to be a real gem. Food was extraordinary although slightly expensive in my opinion but the quality was worth the money. Staff were a delight and ever so helpful and the room and hotel kept to an immaculate standard. Even though on business the hotel and location were completely relaxing and even though set in amazing countryside, local amenities and supermarket were just 5 mins by car. Dumfries a 30min pleasant drive. The dryfesdale is my first choice when in south west Scotland from now on.

« A great place to rest for the night on a long journey »

On arrival hotel staff were helpful and guided us to a wonderful ground floor bedroom with open views over the estate. The room was comfortable with walk in shower. Very comfortable. The evening meal had a variable menu and service and food was excellent. Staff were helpful and polite. I will be visiting again when passing on route to the depths of Scotland. Cost was reasonable, also within easy reach of the M74.

« Nice for Sunday lunch »

I visited here with friends one Sunday afternoon. We had booked a table but this was not necessary. It was quiet-easy to get a table. Good range on the menu. I had a Caesar salad which was ok; other options looked good such as fish and chips, chicken sizzler etc. They also have deals on in the week early evening with look good value. Service was good. Decor is nice post renovations. It's a bit on the pricier end of places to eat in Lockerbie, and not necessarily better for it, but still a nice place to eat.

« Made our wedding perfect »

We stayed at the Dryfesdale for our wedding in April. From the moment we booked (a year prior.........) to the moment we checked out as Mr and Mrs, Glen and the rest of the staff were fantastic !! No enquiry was to much of a hassle and they did everything possible to ensure our day was perfect. As we live in Essex, so far from the venue, everyone there made sure everything was arranged and stress free for me. The rooms were beautiful, food was amazing, my family had such a great time. Cant recommend them enough !

    « Perfect Wedding Venue »

I had my wedding reception at Dryfesdale Country House Hotel at the beginning of June 2016. Absolutely fantastic venue. The service and professionalism of the the staff was second to none. Went beyond my expectations. Lots of staff on duty, no queuing at the bars and staff very attentive to all our guests. The food and presentation of it was fantastic. All our guests commented on the fantastic food. We also had our dog with us who was made very welcome in the hotel and stayed in our room overnight. It was a beautiful day and we had full use of all the grounds outside also. Worth every penny for a very up market, classy, professional venue and service. I am local to the area and work in the wedding industry and I cannot praise this hotel and staff enough. We had a garden room for our dog with patio doors opening onto a terraced area with table and chairs. Breakfast the next day was the same high standard of food at our wedding meal. We had a buffet later in the evening and there was mountains of food, absolutely no-one was hungry and hotel catered for guests with food intolerances easily. Would highly recommend for weddings and hotel stays.

« Lovely break on a long drive »

Booked for an overnight stay on the drive up to Scotland to meet my family. Was bringing my dog which I mentioned on the booking form. I was called back quickly to say they would upgrade me at no charge to a garden room so that the dog could go straight out through French windows to the lovely little garden. Was warmly welcomed on arrival and shown around. A suggestion of a chilled glass of white brought to my room was enthusiastically taken up! Had a very comfortable night, was given a good tip the following morning on where to walk the dog, hearty breakfast and I was on my way to Scotland.

« Overnight stay in family room »

We stayed here on our way to Aberdeen. The staff were very friendly and helpful. As we were late arriving we did not have the evening meal but the breakfast the next day was excellent. The family room we stayed in was very spacious and clean. We all had a good nights sleep and my little boy was pleased that he could go and see the cows in a neighbouring field . Would definitely stay here again.

« Must be doing ok to turn away custom! »

My husband and i arrived on saturday evening looking to get a bar meal. As we arrived the place was deserted. There was 2 people sitting in the bar and staff standing about doing nothing. I was very impressed with the decor as i have not been since it has been refurbished. We didnt get any further than the front door where we were asked if we had made any reservations to which we had not. Typically We dont usually make a reservation to go for a bar meal. We were then told that although the place was quiet just now it would be full soon and basically they couldnt accommodate us for a bar meal. We were quite shocked we were turned away FOR A BAR MEAL. Despite this we went on to The Somerton in Lockerbie. Who were also very busy this evening and on arrival were told that they were busy and you could see they were busy as there was people eating and drinking which is an obvious sign. However the very kind staff asked us to wait a few minutes to squeeze us in somewhere. They did and obviously grateful for our business. We had a lovely bar meal here and highly recommend.

    « Excellent Wedding venue »

We were fortunate to go to a wedding based at this hotel, nothing was too much trouble for the staff, who were all very welcoming. The food was of the highest order, and my dog was a welcome guest too. The room was light and airy with direct access to the lovely grounds, with extended views over open countryside, via a patio door. We had a wonderful time.

« Not impressed for the price »

As a 4 star hotel at £150 per night for a standard room I was expecting much more. The bedrooms are accessed through the bar/dining room with diners either side of the thoroughfare. Our room was dated. The furniture had seen better days and our double room had two single and very creaky beds joined together. The shower was over the bath and the shower screen leaked terribly leaving a very wet and slippery floor. The silicone seal around the bath could have done with being replaced. The radiator in the bathroom was very dusty and it was obvious it hadn't been cleaned for quite some time. I'm sorry i didnt take a photo!! On the plus - the food was very good and reasonably priced. The bar and waiting staff were very helpful and pleasant, but i cannot say the same of the manager - after paying £300 for two nights he did not have the courtesy to ask if we enjoyed our stay. The location is beautiful and idyllic on a good day. I'm staying in an hotel close to an airport tonight with a proper double bed ...looking foward to a good sleep!!

    « Wedding Reception Venue »

Travelled up and got married on (Friday) May 13th 2016. Actually married at Comlongon Castle but stayed here and had our Wedding Breakfast here. The staff were fantastic and nothing was too much trouble for them. Food was very good and the room for the Wedding Breakfast was beautifully decorated for us. The bridal suite with a four poster, although a little too warm, was lovely and clean very spacious.

    « Birthday Night Out »

13 couples for some birthday celebrations. Staff were so helpful in organising things prior to our visit and surpassed themselves after our arrival. Sandwiches and tea/coffee on our arrival, then a couple of drinks prior to getting organised for the festivities. Terrific meal and the staff were incredibly helpful and attentive. Thereafter an area had been set aside for our evening and everyone had a wonderful time. First class breakfast then chilling out in the gardens prior to returning home. Everything had been totalled up together then split 13 ways and everyone was more than impressed with the value for money when they received there bills. First class venue and well worth giving a try for a function or break in the Borders.

We have just returned from a 2 day stay and wedding. Lovely venue food great but can I just say the staff are a credit to the place they all muck in and made us feel welcome and special. Leigh is fantastic and came to say goodbye at the end of the night because she wouldn't see us on the morning we left. The garden rooms are lovely what a view thanks for making my friends wedding special.

From the drive up to the hotel to the views on the morning this is a fantastic location for a hotel! Bed was a little firm for me. Easy access to the motorway wrestaurant food you would pay more than what they charge!! Would definitely recommend.

    « Fantastic »

As a child I spent my holidays running about the corridors of Dryfesdale house. My mother grew up there alongside all her Aunts and Uncles... Before it was a hotel. They then built a bungalow in the grounds where My mum moved into whilst my uncle turned it into what it is now Dryfesdale house. We had gone to stay in Dryfesdale as a large family gathering ,including my mother. The Hotel has been extended and is just beautiful... All the rooms at the back lead to patio doors onto little seating areas . The rooms are very large and beautifully decorated. We had a lovely meal in the hotel ... And fantastic breakfast Finally, the staff! Just wonderful. They all went out of their way to be super helpful. Naturally nice and kind to my mother who obviously found going back to her old house strange. They were thoughtful and brought old photos of the hotel to show her. They spent time listening to her stories although I could see they were busy. In conclusion, a gorgeous hotel with lovely food and fantastic staff.... Thank you.

    « Friendly service »

I've had the pleasure of staying at this hotel several times now for work and it's very difficult to find fault. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the rooms are lovely and very well kept, the only small niggle would be that they are sometimes far too warm, but being in Scotland it's easily fixed by cracking a window and turning the heater down. The food is just phenomenal!! I'm slowly working my way through the menu and have yet to find fault. Thanks guys, and see you soon!

    « Weekend Away »

We enjoyed 2 nights at the Dryfesdale House Hotel using a voucher we had bought. The room was spotless and a good size. The only slight fault was that we were on the ground floor with only patio doors and no windows. Although the room was fairly hot my wife was not happy about leaving the patio door open overnight , understandably. However this was only a slight complaint and overall the quality of the hotel and the excellent staff more than made up for it. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay

A very good hotel which is very well run and the staff are very professional. The restaraunt is very good for both dinner and breakfast. The outlook over the countryside is very pleasant.I throroughly recommend this hotel

« Breathtaking panoramic view from the dining room. »

We had a bedroom on the ground floor with the best walk in shower ever. The bedroom was well appointed with a six foot bed. I was disappointed with the pillows but this was the only disappointment in a most enjoyable two day stay.

    « Lovely 3 night break »

We had a lovely break away from the city. Hotel is clean and comfortable with such nice friendly staff. Breakfasts were delicious......I tried the haddock and poached egg.....large piece of fish -beautifully cooked. Dinner was lovely.....Cullen skink not to be missed. Sitting by the large log fire was a luxury. We were in room 24 but would have taken an upgrade if it had been mentioned ( it was mentioned on voucher) as the fence made the room dark. Will visit again in another room!! Kippford is a lovely place to visit

    « Quiet,Relaxing, Friendly Hotel »

Have recently returned from a 2 night stay at this Hotel, we had a Living Social deal which included a cream tea with a glass of fizz. On arriving we received a very warm and friendly greeting at reception and were checked in efficiently, also booking us in for an evening meal, explaining that as the hotel was full it was best to reserve a table early. We were allocated room 24 which was towards the back of the hotel; the room was a good size and spotlessly clean. There were tea and coffee facilities in the room and an iron, iron board and hairdryer in the wardrobe. There was also a flat screen TV on the wall. The evening meal was of an excellent standard, all the food was freshly prepared and served on hot plates. In fact all the meals were very good; breakfast on both mornings was served at the table, again served on warmed plates. We had a thoroughly enjoyable 2 days, all the staff that we encountered were very friendly and seemed generally very happy, they could not have done more to make our stay better. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone who is travelling/staying in the area. If you want a quiet relaxing place to stay for a few days this is the hotel. We will be returning at some date in the future.

    « Super Birthday Weekend »

We held a 50th birthday party here, so had many guests arriving from all over and staying for the whole weekend. The staff are really good in this hotel, the food is superb, the rooms are lovely and I feel anyone with cause to complain about this hotel must be a real nit picker. All of our guests thoroughly enjoyed their stay here and the actually party, buffet, bar, layout, band set up all ran like a dream. Special mention to Johnny who takes over at night, he runs around after everyone and has a great sense of humour, so every time he delivers something to you he walks off leaving you giggling. Really great service and made to feel most welcome.

Arrived Friday 26-02-2016 with my wife and mother for a two nights stay, and was given a warm welcome. Both rooms were a good size warm and comfortable. Dined both nights in the hotel, and all our meals to a high standard. Staff very attentive and the view while enjoying breakfast has got to be seen. Thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and looking forward to a return visit soon.

« A Warm Welcome Awaits You at the Dryfesdale Hotel »

We arrived at the Dryfesdale Hotel where we were staying with friends for 2 nights on Saturday 27 January. We were given a warm and friendly welcome by a young man on the desk who checked us in efficiently and showed us to our rooms. The rooms had recently been refurbished and were lovely although if you were staying longer you may need more drawer space. There were tea and coffee facilities in the room and an iron, iron board and hairdryer in the wardrobe. There was also a flat screen TV on the wall. The rooms were spotlessly clean. The hotel is set in it's own grounds and even has a putting green! We didn't have time to use this. We had scones with cream and jam which were delicious and a glass of fizz in the restaurant which was just what was needed after our journey. We ate both nights in the restaurant. The first night we had cullen skink and my husband had a black pudding scotch egg, both were very good. We then had steak pie with vegetables, unfortunately the vegetables were cold and hard. The waitress offered to have those heated for us but we refused as we were all quite full. The second night we had fish, chips and mushy peas which everyone raved about, I had roast beef which was also very good. The conservatory was set for a wedding and it looked beautiful. They have 2 rooms for weddings, one smaller and more intimate and both were beautiful. The bigger one overlooked the grounds. As the weather was lovely we walked to Lockerbie which is about 1½ miles away. Thank you for a lovely stay and thanks to all your staff for making us feel so welcome.

    « Thank you Dryfesdale »

Our friends joined us for a lovely weekend at Dryfesdale Hotel from Saturday 27th February until Monday 29th February. The check-in was quick and efficient then we were shown to our rooms. Both rooms were beautifully decorated with comfortable beds and lovely bathrooms with over bath showers. The rooms were absolutely spotless and very cosy. We ate on both nights in the restaurant. The first night our starters were delicious, We all ordered the steak and ale pie. The pies themselves were lovely with beautiful tender meat (however our friend did find a couple of rather fatty bites in the meat). The vegetables however were a disappointment. The looked appetising however were cold and not up to the standard of the starters or the steak and Ale pies. We did offer this information to the waitress when she asked if everything was okay and they did offer to re-heat the vegetables (which we declined). The second night in the restaurant we had fish and chips and the roast beef dinner. The fish was absolutely delicious. My husband repeatedly commented on how lovely the fish was. The chips were lovely and certainly not greasy. The roast beef was equally as delicious. On both nights we sat on the comfy sofas at the window for coffee and drinks. There is a sitting room with open fire which was lovely but we all decided to sit near the window in the main restaurant area. The bar was located in the main restaurant and served everything we could want. Breakfast on both mornings was excellent. The cold buffet had everything you would expect and the cooked meals were wonderful, piping hot and plenty to eat. Although this is an excellent hotel, the area where it excels is in the friendly and attentive staff. We had Lindsay and Lisa as our waitresses and they were an asset to the hotel. The night shift gentleman (sorry didn't get his name) and the young man who checked us in were both friendly and helpful, giving us tips on where to visit in the surrounding area. The manager had a good sense of humour and was professional in his manner. We loved our stay in the hotel and would certainly return for another stay. Thank you to the staff for helping make this a wonderful experience.

« Two night wedding stay »

The staff were lovely and friendly. Very attentive. The Sunday dinner was really nice. Desserts were ok. The second nights food, the soup was nice - smoked haddock and potato soup. We ordered the 8oz burger, which was a large meal that was very salty which was over powering. The breakfasts had a good choice. We stayed in one of their bridal suite. The toilet seat was loose and the headboard was dusty. The bed had also seen loads of action and creaked everytime you moved. The complementary hot drinks only offered tea, coffee and decaf coffee but only one hot chocolate and one packet of small biscuits (2). The lounge was lovely with the open fire and a nice place to relax after eating.

    « Great Staff »

When we arrived we were taken to room 24, the last room in the corridor, with a view of a wall, but after noticing rooms with sliding doors out to a lawn/garden, we asked to upgrade. We were upgraded to room 12, larger room, sliding doors and a much better view. The upgrade was well worth the little extra. Friday night was steak night and a really great deal on offer, 2 sirloin steaks and a bottle of wine for just under £20. Try the hot scones with cream and jam too, very nice! Overall a great hotel, what you'd expect from a 'Country House Hotel' and the staff could not be faulted. One small issue was price of snacks, £7.55 for 2 small bottles of highland spring and a 'basket' of ready salted crisps, no packets and no other flavours available. Would def go back again.

    « "Relaxing Overnight" »

Upon our arrival we were shown a very warm welcome by staff... They had informed us that normally the afternoon tea & prosecco finished at 4pm, we arrived at 4.30pm, but they were still happy to lay this on for us & it didn't disappoint... warm homemade scones, fruity jam & fresh cream along with a chilled glass of sparkling Prosecco... Mmm just what was needed after a journey in the pouring rain! Looking out onto the sprawling countryside cosied up on the Kirkihill bar area comfy sofas we enjoyed a relaxing couple of hours just chatting & gazing out the window, whilst sipping on our "light refreshments". Our room (rm24) was situated to the rear of the Hotel, although we did not have a view, this was offered to us upon booking for an added upgrade price, but as we were only staying 1 night we felt this was not needed. The room itself was very spacious, with a large bed, TV, various electrical appliances & a large spotless bathroom, which had all the wee luxuries you required. we dined in the Hotel restaurant that evening, trying the scallops & wood pigeon for starters & sirlion steak for dinner... although a tad hesitant to eat the wood pigeon for the first time, we did & it tasted lovely & well presented on both starters... our main meal didn't disappoint either, steaks cooked to order & homemade onion ring too.... extremely tasty & again well presented.... sadly there was no room in our bellies for pudding but we were given recommendations from staff on what to chose!! Breakfast the next day was buffet style & it was both continental & full English... again both were very nice, non greasy & as it was self service you could have as much or as little as you wished... Overall verdict was 10/10 for a very reasonable price... a must stay for future get aways.

« Our Weekend Wowcher Break »

This was a Christmas Gift to us both from our Daughter & Son-in-law. The BEST WESTERN Dryfesdale Country House Hotel is a Beautiful place away from our hectic everyday life. The duty manager & staff were very friendly & pleasant. The place was spotlessly clean & our room was very comfortable (we had a standard double) & really warm which was lovely with it being February and cold outside. Our evening meal was superb, service with a smile too. Our breakfast; well what can I say! a great choice from cereals, fruits, fruit salad, yoghurt's,croissants etc. as well as a cooked breakfast with toast and fruit juices & tea or coffee. We were nicely satisfied for a journey home to Nottingham via a few tourist attractions. Well worth the money & would recommend this lovely hotel for a relaxing break.

2nd visit to the Dryfesdale Hotel - once again fabulous stay. Manager Glen makes a great effort with all his guests. Hotel very contemporary and rooms very spacious and well equipped. Rooms spotless and we had one of the rooms overlooking the garden with patio doors. location. Special thanks to all the staff, nothing is too much for them. Restaurant staff are exceptional and very friendly, taking time to have a quick chat and make you feel very welcome. Special mention to Roger the Bar man and Night Porter. Remembered us from last year and feels like an old friend. Polite, professional whilst being down to earth. Will definitely be back - look forward to seeing Glen and his staff again.

Service doesn't get better than this. Welcoming, attentive without being overbearing and the staff smile as if it really is a pleasure to assist. I had one, very minor, issue with the room and the response was immediate. Next morning at check out, the (different) member of staff was aware of the issue and asked to make sure it hadn't spoiled my stay(it hadn't).Joined up service!

Had a lovely drive down the M6 to this place and it was totally worth the visit. Lovely place away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The duty manager was very friendly and pleasant. The place was spotlessly clean and the rooms were very comfortable. We had the steak night on Friday evening which was lovely and worth the price of 19.95 for 2 with wine. The breakfast was really good and tasty. Would totally recommend this place for a lovely relaxing break.

« lovely relaxing overnight stay »

My husband and I stayed overnight at this lovely friendly hotel. Nothing but good things to say about it. We had a deal for afternoon tea and a glass of prosecco, which we had on arrival overlooking the rolling countryside. Staff very friendly and helpful. We ate in the restaurant at night and had a lovely breakfast the following morning. It was a Friday night we stayed and every Friday they have a meal deal, 2 sirloin steaks with chips and tomatoes and a bottle of wine , white red or rosy all for the amazing price Of £19.99 unbelievable value. There is also a separate room with a real fire to sit in and have drinks or coffee. Bedroom was lovely too. All in all a lovely hotel which I would thoroughly recommend to others.

    « weekend break »

We stayed here for two nights, 5th/6th /02/2016, The hotel has easy access from the M74 about 2mins, to the hotel. The inside of the hotel is very clean and comfortable in the public areas. Our room (28) was very clean and comfortable, nice bed, and the bathroom spacious and clean, the bath/shower was very powerful and copious amounts hot water. We had TV and free Wi-Fi and kettle for tea coffee, along with a iron and hair dryer. The main dinning area was well laid out with plenty space between the tables, our evening meal was very good, the steaks cooked as we had ordered and didn't have to wait to long for them, Friday night is steak night you get two steaks and a bottle wine for £19.99 well worth the money, the wine was very nice, the service was very good with the staff being friendly and polite, and always smiling couldn't do enough for us. The breakfasts had plenty to offer lots variety cereals, juices pastries and the cooked Scottish breakfast was very good well worth a try. The Hotel Facilities well not much to talk about, they have a 9 hole putting green, and can arrange a host of other activities for you, and the views are very good plenty walks around the area. If you just want to relax and wind down this is for you, might be better in the spring or summer when you can get out in the gardens and take in the views and fresh air. We enjoyed our stay quiet, clean, friendly, the staff very good and friendly. The only thing I could complain about is the view from our room, is there wasn't one if we opened our window it looked at the wall of some cabin about 3 foot away, not quite what they say on the web site, "All of our 29 bedrooms are everything you would expect from the 4 star BEST WESTERN Dryfesdale Country House Hotel. Each one is fully en suite with superb views of the hotel grounds and surrounding countryside. Families are welcome and pets are also welcome by arrangement". So when you do visit ask for a room with a view. If I was in the area and needed a hotel I would stay here again. So all the management and staff thank you for a good weekend. ON THE WHOLE EXCELLENT. Regards Mike/Tracy.

    « Highly recommended »

Often on a deal the provider can be a bit disdainful and nit picking. Not so at this hotel. From the minute we arrived we were treated like royalty. The complimentary cream tea appeared as soon as we ordered and was served beside an open log fire. We had a lovely large room overlooking the spacious, attractive grounds. There were French doors which opened out and a table/chairs which unfortunately we weren't able to use due to the weather. Tea/coffee/biscuits were provided. Also noticed an iron and ironing board. Huge comfortable bed, comfortable chairs. The bathroom was also large, clean and we were impressed by the number and selection of toiletries.Plenty of hot water,Good powerful shower. The room was cosy and warm and the radiators easy to adjust. We had intended eating at Hightae on our 1st night but couldn't get a table and I'm glad we didn't as the food in the hotel was excellent -special mention, the scotch eggs and the pistachio ice cream! Plentiful selection also at breakfast. The food served seems to be all locally sourced and really full of flavour The hotel is easy to access as it's just off the M6 at junction 17. Plenty of parking space. From here Burns country is on your doorstop and recommend a trip to Caerlaverock Castle

    « Home from Home »

As someone who has to stay away from home frequently due to work commitments, I personally love this hotel! I have stayed here 3 times now (usually after a very long journey). I have always had a warm welcome, nothing is ever too much trouble and it is one of the few hotels I visit where I actually get a decent night's sleep. I just wish all the hotels I stayed at were as good!?

Stayed 2 nights in this hotel whilst attending a wedding. Gorgeous cosy lounges with coal fires. Staff helpful and polite. The room itself spacious and with a gorgeous view. Only downside was the bed. It had a big sag in the mattress and the pillows hard. Otherwise a perfect stay.

We visited for a wedding, check in was speedy and all the staff were polite and went out of their way to make us comfortable, the rooms were also beautifully clean and tidy. We dined in the resteraunt the day before the wedding and although it was quite pricey it was definately worth it, the food was brilliant. The next day the wedding was brilliant and we were reluctant to leave, will definately visit again in the future

    « A Five-Star experience and great value. »

Our party of two couples stayed an overnight in Dryfesdale Country House in December and can't praise it highly enough. All staff that we came into contact with were friendly and helpful, but above all they were totally professional in manner and appearance. Our rooms were excellent - warm, comfortable, well-furnished and spotlessly clean. The bed was extremely comfortable and we had a great night's sleep. A dinner dance was taking place in the hotel that night but we didn't hear a sound from either the function room or from the car park. Breakfast the next morning was a pleasure; with a good range of choices and the cooked options we had were all delicious. And the view from the dining room is lovely. On a personal hobby-horse - I'm always amazed at how difficult some hotels find it to make a simple dish of porridge, but the Dryfesdale is the exception. The porridge here is the best I've ever had at any hotel. Plentiful car parking is available, and the hotel is located just a minute or two from the M74. Free Wi-Fi is available.

« Good overnight night stop »

We booked last minute on our journey from Skye to Wales. Staff all very helpful and accommodating. Evening meal and breakfast both very good. We had a room with opening patios doors, no surprise this was noisy from the M74 when open but no problem closed. Why open them in winter?...we were told the room was very hot as they were reopening that day after Christmas.

    « Christmas Day Lunch 25th December 2015 »

This was the best Christmas meal we have ever had. Staff were very attentive, knew when to be around and when to leave us alone, courteous and happy to help. Our table was ready right on time and delicious food served with some style. The bar man was excellent as he worked the room keeping a eye on when drinks may be required without being pushy. Food was excellent which can be difficult to achieve on such a busy day. Judging from the contented noises from fellow diners, we were not alone in having a good time. The decor of the hotel was very stylish and comfortable with roaring log fires in adjacent lounges. A hotel and experience to be recommended to one and all.

« Fabulous hotel - Amazing food, Great staff »

Just got back from a two night break at this superb hotel. We travel to this area every year, but have missed this hotel, what a shame, we have had a fantastic two nights here. The weather was awful, but the warmth of the staff and hotel made this into a lovely pre Christmas break. The room was large, well serviced and very clean. The staff excellent, and a special mention to the chef, the food was outstanding, so much so we eat here both nights, as food doesn't get much better than this - it's superb. Well done everyone. We will be back next year.

« Reasonable accommodation and friendly staff »

The hotel is fine, the rooms a decent size and comfortable beds, there is some updating required. The staff in the main are very friendly and do their most to make your welcome an enjoyable one. I was also pleasantly surprised at the food served in the restaurant

    « Great Hotel. »

Excellent hotel, all staff were very professional and polite at all times. I only stayed for the one night for a business trip, but spoke with other residents who had been there for a few nights and all were as complementary as I. Would definitely stay again, without hesitation

« Excellent choice Coulnt have chaosen a Nicer Hotel to stay »

The weather was Horrendous, we couldn't reach our original choice of Hotel due to the Very bad weather conditions Cumbria was hit by a severe Storm which caused floods and roads blocked. We Decided to head back home. but on the off chance. gave Booking Dot com a ring to see if there were any other Hotels nearby. No was the answer but they found a Hotel in Lockerbie in Scotland so we decided to go for it. Well this has never happened before because we always wait until the vacation is over to leave feed back. on Trip Advisor but in this case We decided to leave it after a couple of hours of our stay. The Driveway leading up to the hotel was impressive even in the bad weather The Reception that we received on arrival was even better. Glen was so friendly and made you feel at home in an instant and the check in was Smooth and Professional. The Room allocated to us was Spacious. Comfortable. Spotless with a great view over the fields and countryside.. Lyn who we met was very Attentive Friendly and looked after us as if we were regulars here .Very Impressed with the staff Very Impressed with the Hotel . This will be a must return to on our list. Looking forward to our meal tonight and to the rest of our stay here

    « Stayed for Wedding »

First and foremost the staff at this hotel, make it worth the four stars I have given, on staff alone, 5 stars wouldn't be enough, they are friendly, welcoming and can't do enough for you. My husband and I stayed here 22nd and 23rd October during which we also got married in Gretna. We stayed in a four poster bedroom, which was quite small but had everything we needed and a nice, clean bathroom, the room was very clean also and the radiators could be turned down, so the temperature was also good. Unfortunately the bed was quite uncomfortable and the pillows weren't great quality, this is probably a personal thing, as we're lucky enough to have a lovely mattress at home. We ate in the hotel on the Friday night, which was steak night and we couldn't say enough good things about the food, it was really wonderful. I do think the room we stayed in was overpriced, but this is pretty detrimental, as there aren't many places to choose from in this area. The only thing lacking is a swimming pool, then it would be getting close to perfect.

    « A excellent stop over. »

Great place to stay when travelling north or south along M74. Staff very welcoming and attentive to our needs. Very comfortable bedrooms and despite outside the motorway noise being great, inside the hotel the noise was totally abated

« Helpful staff. Nice hotel »

Stayed here with a group for business. Staff were helpful and accommodating throughout making the event go smoothly. We had soup and sandwich lunches on two days, a private dinner and a meeting and all were handled smoothly. For example they put some sandwiches in foil for someone whose train was late Nice rooms with French windows opening to a view of a sheep field

    « ARROGANT UNPROFESSIONAL MANAGER »

Myself and my wife arrived at this hotel at around 10 oclock on a sunday night as i was working in the area. The receptionist was very friendly when we arrived and allocated us our room. At first glance the room looked ok, a little old fashioned but overall ok. On further inspection it seemed i would have to remove abot a dozen spiders from the rom before settling down for the night (the cleaners obviously dont do too good a job) The next morning i went off to work around 8 oclock, by 10 i had my wife on the phone in tears because the manager had told her she had to leave the hotel because we were only booked in for one night and she had no right to be in the room at that time, followed by him banging on the door telling her she had to leave (we were in fact booked in for 5 nights, the staff had mixed up the booking and put us in one room for the first night and another for the other 4) i immediately drove back to the hotel to sort out the situation, at which point the manager proceeded to deny the whole thing and insinuate that my wife was in fact a liar, sorry coward, but i dont think so. I would never again stay at this hotel due to the arrogant, cowardly, manager!! Best western, sort it out!!

    « Engaging Human Staff »

Fantastic location, wonderful views and an old fashioned quaint ambience, unlike the normal sterile premier inn, travel lodge hotels all to frequently visited. Food was exceptional and again unlike the normal foodservice gruel served in the previous mentioned establisments. And above all, staff that engage you in human conversations.. Highly recommended.

    « Conference and Stopover! »

Stayed here for two nights for a conference before heading north to Edinburgh - the hotel reception and public rooms have recently been very tastefully refurbished and are very smart and welcoming, hopefully the bedrooms will soon follow suit. The staff are just lovely, warm, friendly and helpful in fact exceedingly helpful. The food is excellent - the first night I dined in the restaurant off the normal menu - the service was efficient, the food was good and served on really hot plates - the warm bread, some of the tastiest I have ever had was a bonus. On the day of the conference coffee was plentiful and readily available and served with the most delicious, warm pastries - just little things make such a difference!! Conference dinner was excellent - really enjoyed my stay here!

« Beautiful scenery and welcoming friendly staff!! »

Wow! Where do I start? The view at the hotel is so beautiful!! We went up for a Gretna green wedding and spent our time getting ready in the hotel then celebrating in the hotel afterwards!! The sun was out so we could enjoy a walk around the grounds (and a chat with some sheep!) so Lush!! The staff, well they were friendly and helpful and nothing seemed to much for them! They made us feel welcome and that we were their only guests!! The food, well I couldn't fault the the food!! Such big portions but amazing value for money. Room service available if the restaurant is closed, and sandwiches made when we came back from the wedding seemed no trouble! The restaurant overlooks the gorgeous views and the hot Scottish breakfast served to the table when the hotel is quiet. (The hotel was full on our 2nd night so it was a buffet breakfast) fresh home cooked food which we couldn't fault!! They were especially helpful with personalising orders! Tea and coffee available in the rooms with the wicked power shower and beautiful views. Comfy bed and simple modern decor with traditional furniture. Just lovely!! I'd definitely recommend this hotel for a peaceful stay or a wedding!!! Just lovely!! Thank you especially to Tom the porter who dealt with a power cut and was very helpful throughout our stay! Well done to all the hotel staff!!! You should be proud!!

« Our wedding stay, amazing?? »

we stayed here 4-6th September 2015 as we're were getting married in Gretna green, we stayed in the bridal four poster suite, and was absaloutly beautiful! Spacious room, modern decor, lovely views. The staff here are so welcoming, nothing is too much trouble, Food I cannot recommend enough! The breakfast has a wide choice from cereal, yogurts, pastrys, fruit salad, to full cooked English, lots of fruit juices also. Evening meal, we were a party of 11 wedding guests we all orderd starter and main course and each guest commented on how lovely the food was presented and how nice it tasted. I cannot recommend this lovely hotel enough its beautiful and we will defiantly be returning.

« Overnight Stay For The Mazda MX5 Club »

I visited this Hotel recently with 24 other MX5 enthusiasts and had a great stay. The bar staff were most efficient when we arrived ready to hang up the car keys. We were given a private Dining Facility for our evening meal which was superb both in quality of food as well as efficiency of service. The rooms were well fitted out and there was no road noise at all despite being relatively near the Motorway. Breakfast the next morning was first class followed by an efficient check out. All in all....... an all round great visit

    « Thanks Tom »

We booked the four poster room (room 4) for one night as a bit of a treat, having not used any of the more recently re-furbished rooms previously. What a fabulous room! Large, comfortable and beautifully decorated with great views out of the front of the building. Dinner was a mixed emotion as one of the steaks (a large fillet)was not cooked properly, however (and it is a big however) the response of the staff to this failing was first class. Tom was friendly and professional and spent time with us trying to compensate for the problem, to the point where it didn't spoil our evening at all. The starters (scallops) were cooked to perfection and the vanilla panacotta dessert was delicious. Despite the issue with one of the steaks (my large sirloin was cooked perfectly) we had a wonderful evening and overall our stay lived up to the high expectations that we have for the Hotel and the staff. Thank you Tom for looking after us and we are already looking forward to our next trip up to the Dryfesdale.

« Parents Golden Wedding Celebrations »

Enjoyed a lovely stay here recently only downside was it wasn't long enough. We stayed here as a family to celebrate my parents Golden Wedding and renewing of the vows at Gretna Green. The staff were all very helpful and attention to detail at the Golden Wedding Breakfast was fantastic. Breakfast the following morning was just as delicious. Rooms great size (and we had an extra bed in for my daughter). Lovely and clean. Lovely views and patio were a bonus. They accomodate myself and the rest of my family in rooms next to each other which was great. Thoroughly recommend this hotel and hope to visit again.
