    « Nuneaton mitch »

Spent the weekend in Lanark on a family occasion.stayed at cartland bridge hotel found it to be very welcoming the staff are so friendly and exellent at there jobs especially jamie the barman.I will advise to visit in the summer as november in scotland in a castle aint to warm but the log fire and 17 year old whisky helped .its very quiet and relaxing views a little blocked by trees but a 5 min drive or stroll will have you in lanark a must do a great and friendly place have a pint or two in the Clydesdale good food at a nice price oh and if you like ghosts then cartland bridge is for you .

    « Old World Feel »

The hotel reminds me of a stately home and the interior is old style country house appeal. The bedroom was very comfortable with a good shower and the bed was comfortable. the food for evening meal was well cooked and enjoyable and the cheese board was substantial. Breakfast was cooked to order and was good. All in all a quiet hotel with good comfort and helpful staff and that included the night porter.

    « Business stopover »

Convenient location for both Glasgow and Livingston/Edinburgh, magnificent hotel set in some beautiful grounds. I dined in the bar area which was quite good compared to some hotels. The menu wasn't that extensive however it was reasonably priced the meal I had offered good value for money. Drinks again were reasonably priced Breakfast was very good in real pleasant surroundings. Only real downside, It might have just been a one off but it did seem like they were understaffed, although all the staff were pleasant and helpful you got the impression they were overstretched.

« A lovely old country house style hotel nestled in deep woodland in the upper reaches of the Clyde Valleyj »

Th eapproach is off a long (single-track?) road from the main one from Carluke to Lanark, and meanders through deep and extremely picturesque woodland. At the end of it, in front of you lies a large and imposing building straight out of a John Buchan novel... a genuine old country house hotel. It is a favourite destination for weddings and the annexed additions to the rear and sides reflect this. The main building is all high ceilings and wide oak staircases, and tall cveilings and deep cornices and heavy oak doors. There are a couple of areas to dine, and I take my 84-year-old mother there on a regular basis. Ba/waiting staff were attentive, the simple food - I always go for fish and chips when up in Scotland - was tasty and reasonably price... and the bar well-stocked but I was driving so :-). I should imagimne an evening meal in the grander surroundings would up the ante. One of the best places to go for Sunday lunch if you're in the locale. And then explore the various places of interest along this upper part of the Clyde Valley - the the World Heritage Site of New Lanark, a model industrial community founded in the 18th century. Also worth stopping at is the magnificently restored former hunting lodge of Chatelherault, near Hamilton, and the David Livingstone Centre at Blantyre. There are also the very scenic Falls of Clyde. Enjoy the day. And pray hard for good weather. It makes Scotland's scenery unbeatable.

    « nice hotel »

Nice hotel lovely settings but few issues with not being able to eat at the lounge . sink wouldn't empty when filled also water wasn't very hot . I tried to order a sandwich at the lounge bar and was told they couldn't make one. The hotel was extremely beautiful and the gardens were amazing .

« Two Flights to far »

This is a fine hotel, very welcoming and pleasant staff and good food. the problem we had was one of to many flights of stairs we where in room 215 top of the building the room its self was fine. My wife has a mobility problem albeit slight but 5 flights to the room took its toll plus 2 more to the breakfast room. I have place this comment to make folks aware If they have a mobility problem.

    « A good [place for a break »

Our stay at Cartland Bridge Hotel Lanark, was excellent the Hotel provided first class accommodation, food and service nothing was to much bother for the staff, hand for touring the Clyde Valley, and a visits to New Lanark World Heritage Centre, Hopefully we will return if looking for a hotel and we are in the area

« A good and fair priced Best Western with good food »

Date of this stay 13th September 2016 (which is my first stay here) Room 211 My ongoing experience of the hotel is as follows: 1) Arrival was straightforward using the Sat Nav instructions from the hotel 2) There is a large free car park that surrounds the hotel at the front 3) On arrival at the hotel the check in staff were pleasant and friendly 4) I received access to the free WIFI throughout my stay 5) All area's including the bedrooms were always well kept, tidy and clean. 6) My room No 211 was clean and well maintained 7) The hotel is of the typical twee and older style country house hotel that you expect from the mainstream brand. From its quaint and exquisite glass chandeliers, to its wooden panel rooms and period furniture. 8) I enjoyed my evening meal (see pictures), the chef is excellent, my 9) Fish course was excellent, as was the freshly cooked to order omelette the next morning. 10) Breakfast was a traditional English breakfast cooked to your order 11) Check out, was straight forward and hassle free In summary the hotel scores 8.5/10 for a good Best Western branded hotel .

    « Beautiful old house »

This hotel has a spectacular entrance hall and a wonderful panelled staircase, which fortunately not spoilt by unsightly fire doors. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with good quality fittings and well insulated to ensure a undisturbed nights sleep. The staff are helpful and friendly. Recomended

    « Fabulous »

I was the photographer at a wedding here last week and I was very impressed both by the beautiful surroundings (although the rain scuppered our chance of getting the happy couple outside for photos) and the excellent staff, it was a really busy day with lots of people to deal with but the staff were amazing and very professional. Being a photographer and all round nosey Parker I had a good look around and it was spotlessly clean with lovely wee nooks and crannies, I'll definitely try and get back for a stay with the family.

    « Great stay »

Stayed here overnight last weekend after wedding reception. Delighted with lovely, staff very friendly, nice breakfast. We would certainly recommend this hotel and will definitely return. First class .

    « Lovely building , lovely staff »

We stayed this week , loved every minute of our stay. Felt very grand, better than much more expensive hotels I've stayed at in the past. The staff very helpfull and knowledgeable about the area, and Scottish history. Receptionist always smiling and helpful.

    « my wedding »

best day of my life hotel was fabulous staff couldn't do enough for us i got everything i asked for nothing was any trouble for us the room was very nice it was very spacious and had everything we needed and very clean.

« Very good staff, a bit isolated but that's no problem with a car »

Stayed for three nights and found the experience very acceptable, very helpful staff who even prepared breakfast at 04:30 so we could eat before we left for our flight. Good base for exploring the area if that's your thing.

    « Disappointed »

We were at a friends wedding which was held in the conservatory as it was raining outside the glass roof was leaking and dripping on a lot of the guests. During the reception on several occasions we had to go and ask for service as there was no one serving at either bar. The tea served after dinner barely resembled tea and when the buffet was served later it was cold. The staff were pleasant and helpful but sadly I would not recommend this for a wedding based on my experience.

    « Sunday lunch »

Along with friends we went there for Sunday lunch on Sunday 5th June, after the Kirkin' of Lanark's Lord Cornet-elect at the Parish Church, as a change from our usual Sunday dining place, despite another friend having said they had been there not long before and had not enjoyed their meal. We had the carvery meal, and it was excellent, perfectly cooked beef, ham and turkey, and as much veg. as we wanted. (Some had eyes bigger than their stomachs, and couldn't finish their main course, but made a point of saying to the staff that it was their own fault for taking too many potatoes and veg.) The sweets were delicious, and the staff so friendly, cheerful and helpful. We went back with 2 friends 2 Sundays ago, and again everything was top-class. Cannot recommend it too highly. Glad to see that visitors are also recommending it as a place to stay, as it is now the only hotel with accommodation in the town of Lanark (there used to be 4).

    « A treasure! »

We are a couple from Toronto doing a touring holiday of Scotland. We were thrilled with the Best Western Cartland Bridge. It is a gorgeous building with wonderful architecture and interest. We were greeted with friendliness and professionalism. Our twin room was clean, well appointed and had windows on two sides, allowing a beautiful breeze to flow through. We had a lovely dinner of liver pate, tiger shrimp, chicken caesar salad, seafood platter and sticky toffee pudding, helped along by a chilled pinot grigio. Our server, Jackie, was a delightful addition to the evening. She took an interest in our plans and gave us some invaluable advice about places to see and restaurants to try. We are sorry we don't have more time to stay here a little longer to explore.

    « A hidden delight »

Beautiful place to stay as it's a striking Victorian building set in extensive grounds. Lovely, very comfortable room. Great food and really nice staff. Ample parking and very easy to find. I chose it as an alternative to staying near the M74 when travelling south and would certainly make the small detour to do so again when next travelling to/from Scotland.

    « Wedding! »

Had our full wedding at Cartland bridge, it was meant to be in the conservatory for the ceremony but when i arrived plans had changed but i hadn't to worry as Ashley, Gary and his team had already sorted something else. Conservatory was leaking unfortunately so couldn't have my ceremony in there had it in another grand room, dark wood and beautiful big windows. All ran smoothly thanks to the team supporting and looking after us. The wedding breakfast was in the lanimers suite and the food was delicious. Came out fast and quality was really good Large portions too! Wedding reception was in the lanimers suite and it was beautiful the turnaround to go from day to night venue was amazing. We used the conservatory for alot of our photos so i will upload some at a later date. All in all i had a great time and wished we had stayed an extra night, the breakfast fry up was great in the morning. The rooms were spacious clean and the bed was comfy. All the staff were lovely from start to finish and are an asset to the hotel. Will be back no doubt about it! Thanks Louise and Craig Wilson

« Good food slow service »

We called in on off chance and received a very warm welcome both at reception and by our barmaid/waitress. Menu was very good and the food also. The problem was the speed of service. There was only the one waitress and she was covering three separate areas. Hence she was never able to know who was waiting where. She was superb in her manner and service when she was in the area we were sitting and in no way was she at fault it was the hotels organisation that was lacking. For her alone i would give 5 stars. We were in no hurry so just enjoyed the surroundings but others were getting tetchy probably because they had other places to be.

« Great carcery, Great staff »

Last minute call for Sunday lunch, arrived just in time for last call for Carvery. Was not disappointed, had a piece of every meat , three choices , yorkie ,veg and roast and mash, could not fault in any way, staff were great fun as well. Would definitely go again.

« One night business stay »

Stayed here last night. . Beautiful building with loads of character great staff . Will be visiting again In the near future . Could do with a touch of updating In certain areas like most places really.

    « Good stay »

Steyd for 2 nights 2 weeks ago. Had a great stay, lovely big room.Yes the bathroom could do with being updated but was exceptionally clean as was everywhere. Ate in the bar for the 2 nights we were there and were not disappointed. Great, friendly staff from check in to check out. The two ladies in the bar were very good and helpful. Prices in the bar were at a decent rate also. Hope to stay here again in July and August and look forward to a good time again.

    « Disappointed »

Came down to the Cartland Hotel yesterday evening for what i thought was going to be a nice meal out with my other half and my little girl. I was surprised to find out that the old menu had been changed to a new summer menu and a lot of the starters and main courses had been removed. I also found the new cheesecake very unappetising due to it's new texture and i am very saddened to say that it may be my last visit if the new menu stays in place. I have been a regular customer down at the Cartland Hotel for a while now and found a lot of the staff don't make you aware of the soup of the day which i feel is the first thing that should be offered to you on arrival. All in all it is a great hotel, in a great location but the new summer menu is very disappointing. Bring back the old menu!!

« Great dining experience especially of you need a gluten free diet. »

As someone who has to eat a gluten free diet, eating out can be hit and miss, here however, my choices were plentiful and very tasty. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. My friends all enjoyed their meals too. I will definitely be back. To be able to eat out with my friends and to have such lovely good food has really made my birthday. Thanks!

    « Afternoon Stop Off »

We dropped into Cartland Bridge for a refreshing drink on a hot sunny afternoon staff were very friendly and helpful. Although we were not eating that day they pointed out the Sunday afternoon carvery for another time when they would like to welcome us back. We sat in the lovely gardens and enjoyed a quiet hour or two. Hopefully we will return soon.

    « No bitter lemon!!! »

Visited twice for evening drink in the lovely setting...1st time told "sorry we are out of bitter lemon" 2nd time told "Oh we don't stock bitter lemon" Pardon? How can a hotel not stock bitter lemon?? be warned ..not desperado just disappointing...

« Lovely, but needs updating »

Location is great just outside Lanark, the grounds and the building are beautiful. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and couldn't do enough for you. Facilities in the rooms were very poor and dated. Shower was useless, bathroom smelled of sewerage, mattress and pillows were very lumpy. If they ever refurbish I'd love to come back, until then not a chance.

« Comfortable stay in a characterful hotel »

Charming old hotel, great period features and friendly helpful staff. My wife and I stayed overnight. The welcome was warm, the room was huge, very comfortable and although the furnishings are not new they were very clean and well presented. Had a meal with friends in the bar ( good beer on tap) which was of a fair standard for the price paid. We agreed that we would stay here again, very reasonably priced, and would recommend to friends.

« Shining stars in helpfulness »

After over a year from me paying my first deposit to the actual event, I had my hand fasting ceremony at this hotel last Friday. The hotel management were very flexible and patient through me having to reschedule and then give very little notice due to red tape my American husband and I had to negotiate our way through to get to the stage of actually getting married. Although it was a small wedding with no evening reception, the staff could not have been more helpful. The wedding was different from anything they had done before and they were meticulously careful in making sure everything was set up exactly as I wanted and took a real and genuine interest in the proceedings. This was not a big money spinner for the hotel as there was no evening reception and no big bar bills or anything. I did have family staying at the hotel but only in four rooms so this did generate a huge income for them either, yet throughout the whole time, from the panic prior to the civil ceremony the day before through the whole of the ceremony day, the staff were more than helpful. They were wonderful. From my first approach to the then manager Alan when I booked the venue last year, through dealings with Gary when things were finally able to proceed to final preparation with Ashley, everything was done to make sure that my whole wedding experience went perfectly. The attention to every little detail and the help in arranging and moving items that the staff gave was exemplary. I was given not just great customer service but also great moral support. I would recommend this hotel to anyone getting married. I think that it is an ideal venue for a smaller wedding and the grounds are completely beautiful. I would also like to add that they did me a very great favour today in allowing me to come back to the hotel and retake some pictures which did not turn out. Overall the service, the cleanliness and layout of the rooms, the beautiful grounds and the quality of the food, as well as the personal and caring attitude of all the staff make this a great place to have your function. If I have any slightly negative comments, the mattresses are a little hard and a refurb to give a slightly more romantic bridal suite would take this hotel from really great to perfect

    « Naming Day »

Yet again another perfect function, venue is stunning, the buffet delicious and plentiful as always, the staff are outstanding would highly recommend the cartland bridge hotel it ticks all the boxes if you want the vow factor look no further. .

    « Not Disabled Friendly !!! »

Drive to Lanark for a family Lunch Unable to even get across the door, asked about wheelchair access to be told "we can maybe get him in somehow, but ... " Didn't get over the door so cannot comment on food staff or venue condition ! Left Very Disappointed at family hotel and Best Western brand !! Not sure how they manage weddings !!

    « Under staffed »

Although the general offering was adequate for a 1 night stay the hotel appeared to be very understaffed which meant longer than acceptable waits for check in / out, bar service and food service. The TV has a very limited number of channels and there is no information in the room of meal times, local info etc.

« nice hotel in need of makeover »

This was once a magnificent hotel. Although the exterior facade, lower ground entrance and public rooms are still very traditional and pleasing, the bedrooms are drab, old fashioned and in need of a good freshen up. The meals although are still good but not as nearly good as they were 20 years ago.

    « Groom Team Scotland »

Returning to Scotland for business by popular demand. We loved the area and will return for pleasure. Love the character of this hotel and will return to see the wonderful team of staff the operate this unique place. Great experience over all.

    « Attended a meeting only »

I attended a meeting which included a 2 course dinner. The hotel is located in woodland and the outside facade impressive. On entering the front door, you were greeted with grandeur and a very friendly welcome from the receptionist. The meeting room was very nicely set up. The food was nice and served by very polite waitresses. I would try and return and maybe stay over so I could report on bedrooms, bar and outdoor activities.

    « Meal »

Was going to take my wife out for something to eat there but they have no ramps to get in to it all have is one they pull out and then lift her in to the lounge my wife is in a wheel chair Can they not get ramp's pit in

« Lovely hotel full of character »

The Cartland Bridge hotel is set in stunning wooded grounds. The outside of the hotel is impressive, and the lobby is grand with a large open log fire as you enter. The room I stayed in was very spacious and very clean. Food was of a good standard and reasonably priced. The staff on reception as well as the bar/lounge were very polite and helpful. I'd definitely use this hotel while in the are again.

    « lovely situation »

Beautiful building, lovely open fire, good menu. Although staff were very polite and friendly, the service was poor. Pre booked lunch for 3 and we had to wait for 30 minutes before our order was taken. When food arrived it was very nice and reasonably priced, but waiting time just too long. This is not the first time to visit, and we have always found waiting time too long, but we like to support local hotel. Could be much improved with quicker service.

    « Cartland Bridge Hotel »

A beautiful hotel just outside Lanark in its own grounds. quiet, peaceful, enchanting. food and bed fantastic, staff very helpful. they even came and told me when the wine delivery had arrived as I was after a special wine. good for business, couples, family, friends or solo. A must for everyone, even if its just once. its a lovely hotel.

« Bar lunch was fine »

Had a lunch for 2.. Nothing special.. Fine for what we wanted. Reasonable menu choice and friendly service, the Cartland fills a gap in the local market and more power to its elbow for that! The bar appeared to be a bit dead, but that could be because it was mid-week and a quiet time. Nonetheless we were made welcome and the food was at a reasonable standard for the price charged.

    « A little dated »

Great staff, outside the building. Interior very dated if you like 80's 90's you love it. Food in not so good expensive poor quality. This hotel really need a major refurb' it would be excellent oh and a new chef.

« Awful customer service & personal experience on trying to book an event! »

We visited the Cartland Bridge to meet with the manager Alan via appointment, spoke to him in great length regarding an event we wished to have at the hotel and provisionally booked an agreed date for our function including reservation of rooms for guests and we were advised that he would hold the date in question for us for up to 10 days until we paid a deposit. We had a relatively decent meal in the bar that evening and later that night I called the hotel to try & pay the deposit, only to be advised that there may have been a mix-up with dates and the rather frosty receptionist said that she would need to speak to the manager regarding the date as no bedrooms seemed to be available. After trying many, many times to contact the manager both via phone & email there was no communication regarding the booking of the event, I was always advised that he would call me back, but he never did. Eventually I managed to speak with him directly and he said that there was no rooms available on the date we were supposed to have our function but he would find out when an alternative date was available and get back to me asap. Approx 10 days later I received an email offering 2 dates, I immediately replied to the email confirming one of the dates would be suitable and could he just confirm that the bedrooms were definitely available on those dates and asked if I should just call reception to pay the deposit as agreed previously. I still have not received a reply to this email and this is over a month ago, I have now booked our function elsewhere. This manager is trying to run two hotels, one in Lanark and one in St Andrews and clearly is incapable of doing this, my advice to anyone wishing to try and book a function at the Cartland Bridge is to go elsewhere or you will end up being disappointed or let down. It is such a shame because the building is so beautiful and it is in our local area, we could offer them so much business in years to come but unless they drastically alter the way the hotel is run at the moment, it will close. The managers excuse for not contacting me was that they were so busy with weddings that he hadn`t had time to deal with it, but no decent hotel manager would really not deal with events in the near future as well as in the present, I think Best Western are definitely expecting too much from this Manager and changes must be made.

    « Birthday Lunch »

First time at the Cartland Bridge great location super dining area great choice from lunch menu quick efficient service lots to do around surrounding area e.g. New Lanark Heritage Centre walks along the Clyde Valley

« Beautiful surroundings unexceptional experience. »

We have dined in this hotel for many years but have noticed recently a steady decline in service and the quality of meals. This is evident by the lack of clients in the dining rooms. The meals are average, the service is slow and the meals are bland. We have experienced many Best Western hotels but this is certainly not the best. The location is stunning and it's a pity they don't seem to capitalise. Word of mouth is a very powerful advertiser.

    « Fantastic Personal Wedding »

The hotel venue was perfect for our daughters wedding. We felt totally at home in the hotel and we stayed there the night before the wedding and the night of the wedding. The staff were absolutely amazing and couldn't do enough for us. They ensured everything ran smoothly and nothing was too much trouble for them. The day was perfect from the setting, meal and our stay in the hotel. I would thoroughly recommend the Cartland Bridge Hotel as an fantastic venue for a totally personal wedding. I can't praise the hotel and it's staff enough. To give you a flavour of how great the staff were - our grandson, 7 months was falling asleep just before the ceremony and as Mother of the Bride I needed to be there. One of the hotel staff had no problem in taking the buggy with baby and getting him off to sleep to allow us to enjoy the ceremony without worrying about a fractious baby. This was just once of the things that made my day. Allan Todd, the Manager is so calm and puts you totally at your ease safe in the knowledge that all the small detail is taken care of without you worrying. He and his staff were total stars and helped make the day perfect. Thank you.

    « Wedding Weekend »

My daughter recently held her wedding at this hotel. Along with other guests I stayed from the Friday to the Sunday. The hotel is set it stunning grounds ideal for a wedding. The family room was a great size. The whole hotel was a lovely setting for the wedding. The meals were all delicious and reasonably priced. However it was the staff that made our stay and wedding so fantastic. Everyone was extremely helpful and went above and beyond to make our stay and event so special. I cannot thank them enough and am looking forward to visiting again at my daughters first anniversary. Thanks

« Have stayed here when I'm up for 10 years or so »

Nice tranquil place friendly staff awesome building with history and nice well kept grounds... Very quite would recommend to anyone on business or pleasure food is ok and rooms clean.. Could do with a bit of a refurb but nothing to bad and would be an expensive exercise as its a very old building... I will return as ever when my work takes me in this direction
