After reading many negative reviews, I was a little apprehensive about booking 3 rooms at the BW Kilmarnock hotel for my family of 9 for a northern neck getaway; But l did because because it was a short stay and there were no Airbnbs available. First of all, let me say that the hotel is nowhere near as bad as the many 1 star ratings would suggest nor is it a 5 star rating in any reasonable person's mind. It is a former Holiday Inn that converted to a BW several years ago and had its last major renovations in 2016. The personnel are accommodating, if a bit overworked due to insufficient staffing that contributes to a lower level of common area cleanliness than most guests would prefer. It is a non-smoking hotel, but there are obviously some patrons that disregard that rule leading to rooms with a faint odor of past usage. We found the guest rooms were reasonably well cleaned, but some of the FF&E is nearing end of life stage. The hotel is in need of a refresh.. We had clean baths and bed linens, tidy rooms and no unwanted visitors in any of our rooms. The breakfast was true to format and there was no watering down of juices or any obvious shortcuts in what was available. Due to the low staffing levels, front desk staff plays multiple parts that occasionally resulted in longer service wait times than are optimal, but we found all staff were friendly and accommodating if a bit unpolished. Apart from functional age, it was a 3 star stay and wholly acceptable.
Pubic hair in the bathtub, Pubic hair on the sheets, black mold in the ac, refrigerator doesn't cool, microwave caught on fire - literally, room 220 outside second floor smells of smoke, pool is out of order, downstairs smell's strongly like weed, roach's in AC, roach's all around the ice machine, breakfast not very pleasant, came back from a funeral to an overflowing toilet and a very large bug crawling across the wall. Staff is extremely nice told us not to flush toilet paper down the toilet •e. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!
The breakfast is free. The room was not clean, the sink and bath lots of all kind of hair ! Had to clean it before using it. No soap in the room don't forget to bring one. There is a microwave in the room and a fridge who did not work ,the filter was not clean. Lots of people come here because going to a wedding nearby.
Pillows are awful. Room nice size. Hotel smelled like a smoking hotel. I asked at desk if it was non smoking and she said yes. Carpets need shampooing and air fresheners needed. Parking lot was filthy full of cigarette butts. Lots of contractor type people stay there evidently because parking would be full at night, but at 6:30 am you could hear them all outside going to work. Pic on internet website looks much nicer because it is a night time shot. We will not be back there. Best Western is one of our goto's but not this one.
The pillows are the size of a couch pillow the cases were folded over. The fire alarm woke us up at 3:45 am most likely from bad wiring the fire dept has been here 45 times in 18 mos. That info was from the firemen that showed up. The man at the desk left over the situation and we had to wait for new staff to arrive before we could go back to bed. This place is old and creaky. Not a good stay at all.
Clean property. Nice rooms. Had everything I needed for a quick trip. Solo trip. My room was nice and quiet. Away from the lobby as requested. Location was convenient to food and activities. Safe. LOVED the front desk man, Patrick. He was super helpful, professional and friendly!!
This location must have a hard time finding custodial and housekeeping staff. Our stay lasted three days and a no one from the housekeeping staff ever enter our room. Even the landscaping needs attention. The place looks a little run down. On the positive side , my bed was comfortable and I slept well.
Hotel old and dirty. Employee was very rude. Things were broken. Had huge family event and every family member had an issue with there rooms. There were at least 20 rooms booked. Charge 4 star prices and is definitely a 1 star. We had reservations to return bc that the closest hotel within 20-30 miles but we would rather drive.
This hotel needs a gut and remodel. The BEST thing about my stay was the young man that checked me in 07/05 around 7pm. He was EXTREMELY pleasant and helpful!! Now, the hotel first of all you can hear EVERYTHING no matter what floor you're on. When I was downstairs I heard people walking/running above my head. The pool was out of service. Also, they don't have an abundance of towels and wash clothes. The fact that we turned our towels in that morning and our room wasn't refreshed with new ones and then when we went to the desk to ask we were told we had to wait until they washed/dried towels for us to get more at 7pm at night is quite ridiculous. Saturday morning I went to the counter to tell them our a/c unit was dripping water all night and that they'd need a wetdry vac to get the water up and I'd let them know when we were leaving for the day so it could be cleaned up. I was asked what did I have it set on I told her 69 she stated "Oh that's why, if it's set under 72 it drips" WHAT THE HELL? It's 100 degrees outside. I got back to my room around 630/7pm and it was worse then when I told them. The water covered the floor to the middle of the bed so we couldn't even go on the side with the chair and desk because it was soaking wet. In speaking with my family their floors were wet as well (rooms 222, 230, 236 and I can't recall the other 2nd floor rooms) I went downstairs and asked if they came to check it the evening representative said she wasn't aware of the situation and she'd call the morning person yet nothing was done to get the water up so it dripped another night and got worse. I asked the young lady as I was checking out she said she did check but they don't have a wetdry vac so all she could do was put a fan in there but it would've been loud. So myself and my family had to inhale soggy carpet smells throughout our stay. This is soooo bad. For $169+ per night this needs to be better!!!!
Bed bugs infested. I just stayed at this location on Saturday June 22nd. Only to find bed bugs in the head board of the bed. This hotel refused to give me a refund. Now I see why they didn't give the refund because the entire place is infected with bed bugs. I would not recommend this bed bug hotel to anyone. It's awful. They lied to Hotels.com and said I checked in at noon which is not true I got there at 2p and was gone all day. It was not into late that I came to the room only shower and lay down. To find out about the bed bugs. When I pulled the head board away from the wall not only were their bed bugs but the 2 inches of dust which tell you they don't even clean the rooms like they suppose to. They act like they care but beware this place is trash
Do not stay here ….. me and my friends got a room together for one night and as we was laying in the bed we started itching; so we check the bed and fought little bug in the bed … I'm so disappointed and disgusted with this hotel. Please don't stay here !!!
Multiple issues, refrigerator leaks in our room, young man at front desk was annoyed that we requested additional towels to soak up the water on the floor in front of the refrigerator, I overheard him venting to another employee about it. The phone in the room did not work, the pool was not open for use and we were told it would be, shower had a dirty used soap bar from another guest. We will look for somewhere else to stay in the future.
There are not many options in the area so when we travel here on business this is our choice. It's safe and okay. May want to consider local restaurants for breakfast. We stay here every year for business. Some peers complaining about other guest with noise.
Do not stay at this hotel there is a reason that the brand has changed several times. Upon arrival at the hotel management was in a car with his lover. His lover interrupted my check in. Within 30 minutes of being there I saw two drug deals going down in the parking lot. the room and the halls had a horrific odor. The room was dirty. There was trash left from the previous guest still on the room. I slept with one eye open the entire night concerned for my safety. When I went to check out in the morning management was not there had to leave and come back several hours later to check out.
STAY AWAY. We booked this room for an overnight golf trip for my son. The room smelled musty/moldy. We found the worlds smallest cockroaches and asked for a room change. Upstairs, the room smelled better, but had trash in the chair, and still roaches crawling on the walls. I would never stay in such a hotel, but it was the only option I knew of until talking to locals at my sons golf tournament earlier in the day when they made another suggestion. I thought, how bad can the Best Western be, HORRIBLE. NEVER BOOK here!!!! I immediately called the Kilmarnock Inn and got a room there and practically sped out of the Best Western. The Kilmarnock Inn is adorable and has the best food…save yourself the headache.
Arrived late, 10pm which was much later than planned. Greeted and welcomed by cheerful night desk clerk who checked us in quickly and efficiently, explained about breakfast and availability of the hotel's fitness center. Because my husband uses a walker she assured us that our room was close to the elevator and offered to help us with our luggage. While not labeled as a "handicap" room, he was easily able to get around the space with his walker. Convenient location with plenty of parking and close proximity to restaurants will have us coming back on a regular basis to visit friends in the area.
Only spent one night, but wish I could stay more. The staff were so pleasant, especially Patrick, and the hotel was very well kept. I really enjoyed my comfortable room and ample breakfast. I look forward to my next trip there.
Booked easily online. Check-in went smoothly. Upon arrival to the room their was a musky/damp odor and evidence of mildew on the bottom of the curtains. All was going ok until we found a live adult bed bug in our bed!!! Decided there was no way we were sleeping there that night, gathered our belongings and went ot the front desk to checkout. Staff was outside in a personal vehicle and when he came in to greet us there was no way for us to know that he was an employee as he was wearing a sweatshirt over his uniform. From that point he was unfriendly. He offered us another room but I still would not have been able to sleep there. No refund or voucher or offer to relay our issue to management was given. At this point we were charged full price for our room that we only spent max 4 hours in AND we had to pay for another hotel room somewhere else. We definitely will not be going back or recommending the hotel to anyone else that we know despite having close family friends that own a house on the river nearby.
Spent 3 nights here while visiting the area. Conveniently located with good amenities and parking. Friendly staff. Nice rooms with comfotable beds. Typical good breakfast options changed daily from cheese omelets, scrambled eggs, waffles, french toast, bacon, sausages, cold cereals, yogurt, apples & bananas. Coffee available 24 hrs. Only complaint was the whole place could use a deep cleaning. Our room smelled musty. My husband took the filters out of the air conditioner and they were filthy. He went outside and cleaaned them himself. There was dust all over the place (headboard, end tables, television console, lobby baseboards), microwave in room was dirty and sticky,
Worst hotel ever. Overcharged, charged for extra rooms. Staff rude, hotel dirty, amenities not working. Customer service can't help, because hotels are independantly owned. This was a nightmare from beginning to end. Still fighting overcharges.
We had bed bugs in one room, mold in refrigerator in another, one family waited at front desk for almost an hour to check in(no one was there & no one answered phone) My son went down to front desk to get help when bed bugs were found & no one was at front desk for over 3 hrs during the night - no one answered the phone during that entire time.
I just paid $140/night for this dump. That's $700 for a 5 night stay. The property is dated and dirty. The carpets are stained, there are lightbulbs out, the breakfast is garbage, and there are constantly people loitering around the exterior of the building. I'm not sure how a franchise would allow this type of operation. This hotel should be $79/day at the most.
Noisy, Lobby A/C, pool, ice machine, soda machine, snack machine out of order. No apologies. Room fairly clean. Skimpy on towels. Upstairs guests - probably kids - stomping and jumping on floor. People talking in hall all during the night and loudly banging doors. Beds too soft for my liking. Will not stay here again. Regan, evening front desk clerk extremely helpful and kind. Only hotel in town so they can charge what they want. I feel I was Overcharged for what I got.
Checked in 5/26/23. We had 4 guests. Two towels ONLY. Asked for 4 and front desk acted like I was greedy. Free Breakfast, ran out of everything by 8 AM - waited while for a coffee cup. Later that day, room never cleaned and when asked for clean towels they had NONE. Told me to get my dirty ones and they would clean and dry in 30 min. Towels were dried and still dirty. We had no toilet paper or tissues. Had to use hallway bathroom. They only wanted to give us a 25.00 credit. HOTEL IS A DUMP and do not stay there....no clean towels for anyone????
My family were in 4 separate rooms and everyone had seen Roaches. My son and his family left at 1:30 am to drive back home which was 1 1/2 hour away. He reported his concerns and had a video. I did not receive the discounted family rate. Voiced my concern but it was easier to pay versus arguing.
This staff at the hotel was great, but the facilities were unacceptable. The handicap room for my mother did not have a walk-in shower or a way for her to shower safely, even with the help of her aide. The toilet seat in her room was broken. Our separate room did not have a TV that worked— we were offered a different room, but could not change rooms because of my mother. Our room was cold and did not appear to have temperature control. Again, the staff was lovely— the hotel was awful.
when there is a severe roach problem how much can you say. at least offer perhaps a discount on your bill unless this is a a recurring problem and Best Western has met its quota! This location appears to have been built some time ago but a "big dog" needs to pay attention .... its the travelers money that provides you all the comfort of the resorts that you are use to
In town for my father's funeral, was hoping there would be no problems due to the stress I was experiencing. No other hotels in the immediate area, I wasn't expecting much especially after reading about past problems here. Pleasantly surprised, room was very clean! I pulled all the sheets off my bed to check for critters, found none. Sprayed down the room and bed with lysol and felt my self and my belongings were safe from taking additional traveling companions back home. Decent breakfast and Walmart and Dollar ($1.25) Tree across the road. All in all, a nice stay.
Sleeper couch was just awful. Luckily, 7 year old did not seem to notice. No extra blankets. Breakfast was not good, especially the "scrambled eggs" which we all decided were disgusting. Pillows were not new and fresh and were poor quality.
Staff needs to be trained in hospitality and how a hotel/motel should be run - staff is lazty.Breakfast was not monitored - nothing was replenished until I complained. Tables not wiped as people used them and left. Desk chair was broken and replaced with one that was not as broken. Phone was unplugged from wall and receiver unplugged from phone. Lamp shades tilted and bent. Rooms are clean and spacious but that is the only good thing other than price - I guess you get what you pay for!
Our room was clean. Bed linens were clean. Ironing board was totally broken. Don't know how housekeeping missed that, but a new ironing board was brought later in the evening. Breakfast was subpar. I went out instead. Bathroom was clean. I do wish they had bigger trash cans in the room.
Very homey feel friendly staff a great experience definitely worth the visit it was nice slept well and breakfast was a hot meal definitely recommend it to everyone wish all hotels were like that it would be a wonderful thing
description too long, view hotel review. WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN AND RECOMMEND OTHERS TO STAY CLEAR!!! Staff attempted to relocate us to multiple other rooms, but only to find they ALL were roach infested. staff only discounted a portion of the bill. Extreme dissatisfied and feel the hotel knows that they are the only hotel in the area so they can provide piss poor rooms and no other options can be had. coming 4 hours away, a late night trip back home (1am) was not a smart option for us!
i have stayed at this hotel over the years - this last visit was terrible - I will be staying in Williamsburg in the future - when I reported issues to Rashil at the front desk he made excuses that were not logical of technically sound - i travel about 130 nights a year and i know when I am being given a line of bs
Over all very dirty front needs power wash, hallways extremely dirty carpeting bathroom toilets ran constantly, found hairsssss in the bed on sheets and in bathroom , no slip protection for tub , hot hard boiled eggs for breakfast don't know if it's local things.
In my 20 plus years of staying here 9/3/22 was the WORST! I killed a roach the mattress looked like came from a dumpster the carpet and refrigerator was dirty. The guy at the front desk when I checked in and later fixed the television in my room was nice. The place is like a FILTHY MOTEL!
The staff was wonderful - good clean breakfast no pancakes or waffles but had meat French toast and plenty of options - AC was cold and location was wonderful. The only negative I can say is the hotel was showing age.
Excellent all around from the moment UI checked in. The front desk associates were friendly and very helpful with answers to all of my questions. The suite was very spacious and very clean and comfortable.
Great place to stay second time coming here great staff great customer service love the town the breakfast could be a little better but it's great that the hotel serves breakfast the rooms very clean.
We've stayed here several times when we're at the river attending parties with friends. Hotel is your average chain hotel, clean but nothing fancy or special. Staff is hit or miss. Expensive for what you get.
We booked 2 rooms for 2 nights for a Little League tournament nearby. After checking in we left for game and returned a few hours later. We brought in pizza and was putting soda bottles in fridge when we found dozens of ROACHES coming out of refrigerator cabinet. We immediately threw our stuff back into our bags. The family waited outside as went to desk to report and check out. No there for several minutes so I reported the problem to BW Corporate. The employee returned and was very apologetic. He attempted to stop payment for us but said he was new. We left the disgusting property and drove the 90 minutes home. We're still fighting to keep from being charged. I called the next day and the front desk employee was rude and tried to only refund 1 room 1 night. I recommend avoiding this hotel if you do not like sleeping with Roaches.
I was in town for a family wedding. This was my first visit to Kilmarnock VA and I was pleased with the staff and cleanliness of the hotel. Breakfast was great and the cook was very attentive. Food was fresh, hot and the food and dining area was very clean. Good location not far from downtown area.
My mom, wife, granddaughter, and I stayed here for two nights. The usual places we stayed were all booked. After reading the reviews, especially regarding the cleanliness of the rooms, I was satisfied enough to book two rooms for two nights. We were informed at check-in that the rooms are ae not cleaned daily, only at checkout: No problem since we only want fresh towels anyway when we go away. The first night the bed my wife and granddaughter were in had bed bugs. My wife woke up after being bit at 4:00 a.m. When I inspected the bed, I found bed bugs crawling on the sheets and pillows. We all slept in the bed I was in which had no bed bugs. The next morning, my granddaughter was covered with bug bites (I hope the pictures can be seen). I found out from mom that she had roaches crawling around in her room. We were there for a funeral, so we went and came back. Once back at the hotel, we stopped at the front desk. The front desk clerk was accommodating and apologetic and moved us to another room. She also deducted the price of the first night, which was fine, but my three-year-old granddaughter was uncomfortable during the rest of our stay. If you do not want to be bitten by bed bugs, do not stay at the Best Western Kilmarnock, Va. I am the Director of Housekeeping in a hospital, so my standards regarding cleanliness are very high. Please do not believe the reviews regarding cleanliness, they are false.
We stayed for one night and we were impressed with how clean and up to date this hotel was. Breakfast was an average hotel breakfast with plenty of options. This hotel had very comfortable rooms and friendly service. We would stay here again.
We left an item in the room and came back a few hours after we had departed and boom it was nowhere to be found. But wait, there's more. They tried to charge us $50 extra with no explanation and after two weeks of trying to reach someone they said it was for “extra cleaning” and sent a video of a dirty room which was clearly not ours (and did not show the room number). Any emails and calls to resolve this go unanswered. We were forced to stay here due to a wedding but otherwise it's been a while since I stayed in such a lame place. Avoid.
Place is very modern. Room and hallway smelled clean. The location for our trip was excellent. The only thing I would say is the laundry room was a bit dirty, as it needs to have more attention to its cleanliness.
Nice facility clean inside and out the room was excellent just like home, breakfast was simple but delicious.TV,Cable,Wifi,Kitchenette, Refrigerator,Microwave, Coffeemaker,Coffee, etc.Walking distance to restaurants, fast food,Walmart
This was pretty downright awful. Disgusting bathroom that we couldn't get cleaned - I ended up requesting a vacuum and doing it myself after repeatedly being assured housekeeping was coming. Zero manager response and zero corporate response. Also didn't get the room we booked, we were given a key to an occupied room upon checkin. Awkward! The phone in the room didn't work. Hair and black stuff all over the sticky bathroom floor. We were locked out of our room in the middle of our stay, so we decided to pack up and leave. Awful awful awful, so not stay here!
We had just a quick overnight stay here at the Best Western. Everything was very nice. The staff was super helpful, the bed was very comfortable. Just one slight noise problem with our neighbors next door, but they quieted down at a reasonable hour. We would come back for a longer stay when we have the time.
Staff are very friendly at this location. The hotel has some maintenance issues; presume that COVID has taken its toll. Examples - non-working elevator; stairwell doors did not latch - pretty sure that is a fire marshall concern; loose floor tiles in the bathroom
The entire team goes above and beyond to provide top noch service. They have set the bar high, out of all the hotels I have been to, nothing compares to how caring Kandi and the staff are here. Despite COVID, the breakfast selection had a lot of variety. Mary Beth is on the ball, she keeps everything sanitized, and makes all of the breakfast selections from scratch. No frozen prepackaged food!
Stayed at the BW in Kilmarnock, VA. Was pleasantly surprised. The beds were probably the most comfy I have found in a hotel. Complimentary breakfast was better than most and served with COVID 19 in mind. The older lady who worked the weekend breakfast was great; very quick and kept things clean. Staff were professional and friendly. My daughter and I enjoyed our visit and would go back. I would recommend that they get a BIGGER sign on the road as we drove by when we missed the small sign. Try it; you will like it!
We visited the Best Western Kilmarnock hotel on a girls trip. It was only a one night stay but we were so satisfied we will return next year. The hotel was very clean and the staff was very accommodating. They all appeared to be happy to work there and their kindness was genuine,
every year we go it feels like visiting family. every one always happy and welcoming. They try there best to make sure your stay is the best it can be. Your not from around here? no problem they know were all the good places that will interest you and the family or if your on business they can help you with any thing you need for your meetings to run smooth
We enjoy staying at the Kilmarnock Best Western because they pay attention to details. When we book our stay they anticipate our needs based on our previous stays and provide the services without prompting. Kind, polite, professional service on every stay. I highly recommend.
Fast service and very clean facility. Had restful night even if the rooms were not really soundproof. Convenient and easy access to restaurants. Would go back for the service. Booking was easy and hassle free.
I chose to stay here overnight while on a two day trip from New York to visit friends in Wake, VA. I was very pleased. The font desk staff was very friendly and made check in a breeze. The room was very nice and the bed was very comfortable. They also offered a nice complimentary breakfast that was prepared with Covid 19 precautions in mind. Very good selection. Whether you are visiting friends inn the area, in town on business or just need a place to rest while driving through, you will be happy with this choice.
The staff here is superior!!!! No complaints about anything except breakfast and the thinness of the walls. The people next door to us had sex multiple times and we heard EVERYTHING!!!! It was quite annoying. The breakfast was bland. However, the attentiveness of the staff made up for the rest. I would stay again.
The hotel is subpart, it is very dated and need upgrade to say the least. When Best Western brought this site from Holiday Inn the hotel when through "minor" cosmetic renovation. No major updates where expedited. Hotel need upgraded TV with Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc preloaded at least guest can log onto their Netflix accounts. Currently AT&T Direct cable is used which is crap. The carpet is just dirty. I wouldn't put my feet on it. The lamps need an upgrade to USB socket. The décor is dated with bad coloring (dark green). The bed shirt drags to the floor very sloppy look. The bathroom, the toilet is old and very low to the floor, the tile is dated and old. Unfortunately, this hotel is the only game in town. I will they would build another hotel for competition. Just nothing special about this establishment.
So. First off. Not a totally bad hotel for being in the middle of who the heck knows where. First room, at first glance looks good. I did my standard Lysol cleans (do it at all hotels to be safe). Open the covers. Not 1, but 3 body hairs, underneath the tucked covers which begs the question, “were these sheets even changed?” ...probably not. Went to change rooms- the guy at the front desk was nice. Don't get me wrong. He asked if I wanted new sheets, implying I would change them. But for this hotel, shouldn't be a surprise. Second room - dirty toilet bowl. Visibly dirty with what I won't describe. And more fun stuff in the beds?
Kilmarnock is a very small town, however the Best Western there is excellent. The staff are awesome, the amenities are great. Very comfortable rooms. The location is central to town and restaurants, and shopping if necessary.
Internet doesn't work. Kicks you off repeatedly and when you are connected, think worse than dial-up speed. Room had candy and trash in on the floor by the bed. Musty, moldy smell. Toilet ran all night and to flush it, I had to stick my hand in the tank repeatedly to push the stopper down. Lights flickered. No sound barrier between rooms so you hear all noises. Front desk agreed to my extended check out (noon, instead of 11). Left my room for meeting, came back at 9:45am and the cleaning people were in my room, with my stuff without permission (regular check out is 11am), which totally ruined leaving plans. I had to change clothes in the public hall bathroom. Don't stay here. It's awful.
Our stay at this hotel was for 2 nights (in town to attend a wedding). The hotel was very clean, comfortable, & the staff was very friendly. First breakfast we went to the Car Wash Cafe up the street from the hotel (recommended by a local wedding attendee). The next day we ate breakfast at the hotel. There was an ample selection of foods & beverages to choose from. Enjoyable stay. :)
If your staying in this little town you can pick two. This place for around 135 or Kilmarnock Inn for 235. I was there for a funeral so didnt feel like the more upbeat and charming Kilmarnock Inn so settled on this place for the funeral rate of 119. What a deal! Please. The place was clean and the staff were nice but the place is cheaply built and should not charge a dollar over 68 bucks a night. When you walk down the hall you can feel the plywood underneath. Also the staff lets there realities come over and use the pool or maybe locals just know there can, so yo can be greeted by screaming kids in the parking lot in the back. Over all its pretty basic and since it is the cheapest place in town at 135-150 you may want to consider the gas cost and stay in Tappahanock.
Their maintenance people broke the sprinkler line in the ceiling and water went through about 8 rooms! Asked the general manager to move our room and was told we would be ok and to just put towels down! No ac for almost 48 hours no lights for 12 and after complaining still no results! Was told by general manager that we would be ok and to just let the towels soak up the water.. woke up the next morning sick and couldn't breathe due to my asthma and lung problems so I again asked to be moved and she proceeded to tell me that I hadn't even been there a whole day which was a lie because we checked in on Monday and today is now Thursday!!! Very very very rude! I asked for the company complaint number and she gave me a card with her name and hotel number. As I asked the front desk clerk who also happens to be a Caucasian male for the number he says let him ask her but then refers to me as “this black is out there complaining”! She ask what room he tells her our room number and she says “ I told him to put towels down he will be ok!” I've never been so disgusted in my life!! I would never come back to this hotel ever again and would highly not recommend anyone use this hotel! I'd rather sleep in the woods before I would ever pay to sleep here again!!! I've been up all night coughing and trying to catch my breath due to the moisture and humidity and mold insulation that has come through the vents from the room next door that the roof fell in on from the water damage! Do not go there!! General manager is horrible! Yet, the woman who was also Caucasian was moved immediately to a new room and her room was never even affected at all! But we're told to just deal with it and can't even walk on the floor in sandals!!! Never will I return!!! Below are picture of the flooding and our room as the water spread and is still there now going on day 2!!! Also called corporate office and had one pleasant customer service person who gave me the complaint department number but have yet to receive a call back!!! Lost hours from work and all! Now I'm out of 15 hours of work and just have to accept it I guess!!!
What was meant to be a quick overnight stay for a family funeral turned out to be a stay like no other. We started out driving to Kilmarnock VA from Maryland. Kilmarnock is a small town so there were not many hotels to choose from. When we arrived to the hotel, there was only one employee at the front desk. He greeted my family and provided us with the keys to our room. When we arrived to the room, it was not what we expected. We then contacted the front desk. The attendant left the desk and came to our room. Once he realized that the room was not suitable for my family, he then supplied us with another room that met our standards. The next morning, after breakfast (which was really good and plentiful) I spoke with the manager who advised that she was sorry that we were not satisfied and did I all that she could to suffice. Overall, the employee and the manager ensured that our stay was decent considering what we had to travel for.
If you stay at this hotel for more than 1 night and want your room done by housekeeping you need to be out of the room EARLY or you will be out of luck! We left at 11a for the day and upon return at 4p were told that our room was not made up because "you must have left 'dead late' today..." We were told we could/would get fresh towels but that was it. We NEVER got the towels!
Check in was completed in a matter of minutes upon arrival with friendly, efficient staff. Rooms and bathrooms were very clean. Breakfast offered a nice variety of hot and cold selections. A great place to stay.
Everything thing was done as it should be. Place is extremely clean, everything works as it should the help are friendly and the breakfast is better and more complete than any motel I have ever stayed at. Stayed here last year and was so pleased we drove 40 miles out of our we so we could be assured of having a great nights stay again.
From walking in the door, through breakfast and departure, this place brings comfort, relaxation, and people who care. They make this a pleasurable experience. The "hot breakfast" is not the usual with a waffle machine. Eggs and two kinds of sausage. The rooms are quiet, and the general atmosphere of amenities in the room and people at the desk are designed to make the stay easy and enjoyable.
This is a small hotel just on the edge of town, behind a sad Pizza Hut. Do the speed limit or you will blow right through town. The dining room for breakfast is the largest of any Best Western that I have been to. The dining room attendant is a super sweet lady that is a joy to talk with. My husband and I were in an Executive King Room, which apparently means, Room with No Couch. However, the bathroom was very large with an exhaust fan, perfectly clean and white walls and bathtub; it looked like it was just installed last week, and a double flush toilet. It had more fluffy towels than 2 people need. The bed was soft and squeeked a little. The room was very clean. My 2 disappointments were that the key card system/machine was down, so a desk clerk had to let the guests into their room for 2 days. The other unpleasant surprise was that I could not use my military ID to check into my reserved room. We had to give them my husband's driver's license and credit card to be photocopied and put on file in a box within arms length of the front desk. When we checked out they gave the copy back to us, but I definitely didn't like my credit card being available for anyone to rummage through an open box to find. All of the desk clerks were nice except the larger black lady. She wasn't so nice, and she kept staring at me. Made me uncomfortable and made my husband angry. We went there to check out a Best Western that we'd never been to. The town of Kilmarnock was wonderful, kind and small. Because of the copy of my credit card, I will not go back to that hotel.
Good location. Off of a main road in downtown Kilmarnock, VA. Stayed two nights on the second floor. Our room was considered a “Kitchenette Suite.” Just means a room with a little more space than a normal room. Clean. Low rider toilet. Desk (office) chair VERY uncomfortable without using a pillow. Our view consisted of the roof of the front door canopy. Outside of hotel was clean & grounds were suitably landscaped. Good check-in. Room entry door is made of steel with a steel frame. There is a 5/8” gap on the locking side of the door. This affords very little security. Towels and wash clothes feel like sand. Came here in order to attend the 30th annual oyster roast at the Fishermens Museum, located in Reedville, VA, about 18 miles from this hotel. Not much at the included breakfast in the way of healthy eating. Business center is located in the breakfast room. First time I've ever seen that! Good housekeeping service!
Be cafeful!!! They will photo copy your license and your credit card including the security code on the back! God knows what they do with it!! They get away with it because they are the only hotel in Kilmarnock, VA!!
$158.00 for a (1) night stay for a returning customer is expensive. Will have to look into other options on our planned golf trip in the area. Work with the local golf course and try and put together golf packages for lodging and golf course play.
Was in town for a funeral. Nice hotel, clean and the staff was friendly. The breakfast was very good with a nice variety. The walls might be a bit thin, or the guy in the next room was an extremely loud snorer. I mean loud!!
During my recent stay my nephew was bitten by bedbugs on the face, eye and head. When brought to the manager ‘s attention, the room was changed and she indicated that an investigation would be conducted. We placed our belongings in plastic bags and the cleaning staff placed them in the dryer for us. When I told the manager how upset I was about my nephew, she informed me that I shouldn't be because she changed the room for me.when I asked her how she would feel if she was in this situation, she agreed that it was not pleasant. When checking out I asked to see the manager and told her that I expectedto be compensated for at least one night because of the bedbugs. She informed me that schools and nursing homes also had bed bugs. I did not understand what that had to do with the situation. She also informed me that she took $30 off the bill. I told her this was unacceptable. I visit this facility at least once a year and rent several rooms. She told me that she would take care of me next year and informed me that no one else complained of bed bugs. I will never return to this facility again.
Everything was super except for the wash cloths which were as rough as sandpaper. I still enjoyed the stay. Bed was very comfortable, TV, refrigerator, hair dryer, breakfast & all the other amenities were fine.
After kayaking all day we checked in late and got ready for bed. Within 20 minutes, the 50lb+ valance and curtains came crashing down onto the bed narrowly missing my wife. It was only secured by a few drywall anchors. So, we were subjected to the floodlights all night and a very early morning as there were NO curtains. Hotel staff was apathetic and the GM NEVER even attempted to call me to apologize or talk to me about it. Very poor customer service. I have pictures of the damage. Here is the funny part - I received an email that basically said the incident never happened because someone else has stayed in there plenty of times before with no problems. LOL Stay away.
We recently stayed at BW overnight. The hotel was clean, comfortable and the breakfast had a good options for all. The breakfast hostess was friendly and helpful. HOWEVER apparently their policy requires copying of your credit card for incidentals, which included the 3 digit code!! We havent encountered this in years!!! We questioned and were told it is the hotel policy. (I verified with corporate that each hotel sets its own policy) The manager asked me to call her after I submitted a survey. I have called her back twice without response. I guess they made an attempt so jer job is over. Good stay just beware of the policy, put some tape over your number.
I always check reviews and view photos of hotels before I book a room. Against my better judgment we decided to stay here with other family members. My family reunion is always the 3rd Sunday in August and we usually book about 10 rooms since this is the closet hotel to the venue. The first thing I do when entering my hotel room is check for cleanliness and bed bugs. To my surprise when lifting the mattress there was a ROACH on the sheets between the mattress and box spring! I have had a bad experience in the past at another hotel with waking up to bug bites but this was by far the most traumatizing! I immediately went to the front desk and informed the clerk. The only available room in the hotel was a King Handicap room. Needless to say there was no way the 5 of us (2 adults, 3 children ages 17 and twin 12 year olds) would be able to sleep in one bed! We were given two rolling beds to accommodate and even after rearranging the room, only one of the two beds was able to fit. We then had to decide how to make due. Who would sleep in a chair or who would sleep in the car? It is unfortunate that we will not be able to stay at this hotel again with our other family members for years to come. Then again after I inform them of our experience, we may all have to seek other options when choosing a hotel in the area.
This Best Western was a beautiful venue to lodge in. The room was spotless and the common areas outside of our room were also spotless. The bed was supportive as well as being plush. I would gladly stay there again.
The Staff at the hotel are great and the room accommodations are awesome as well. Great breakfast and clean atmosphere in the hotel as well. Close to several restaurants and a walmart. You pretty much have everything you need with in a short distance to the location. The bathrooms were well stocked and the wireless internet worked very well with no lag issues what so ever. I would recommend going to this hotel for anyone visiting the Kilmarnock area, they also have a trolley that will pick you up and take you through the historic town as well and see the culture that they have there too.
I needed a place to stay for one night and the Best Western in Kilmarnock was one of a few choices to stay at. When I walked into the front door, I was taken care of on the spot. The front desk staff was friendly and had a very good report with everyone who came in the building. My room was spotless and the bathroom was very clean. You can tell that the house keeping staff was proud of the job they were doing. I highly recommend this hotel in Killmarnock. When I return, I will be booking a room with this Best Western Hotel.
Upon arriving at this coastal community Hotel, I was pleased by the location. The Hotel was Clean, very affordable for the location, being on the coast.. The Staff I can not say enough about. They all went out of their way to make me feel at home, and I did feel at home.. Starting with Shakiel, the desk attendant, This young man greeted me with a smile and a little hint of harmless silliness which melted me with relaxation, feeling like I was in my own home setting. He was professional and helpful during my pleasant stay. He is an asset to the Brand as well as this location. I would mark him for management. People like him are hard to find. Mary Beth was the Breakfast Attendant. A local and well versed in the history of the town. She takes pride in serving the best breakfast any traveler would want. Thank you Mary Beth for being so kind and on mark in what you do. Although I was at the hotel on business, I will be back when I can take my time and tour the town. I recommend this location to any traveler. the Town is quaint as is this location.
Clean room. Comfortable king bed. Ample parking. Kinda odd to see housekeeping scurrying around at 8:00 servicing rooms around breakfast. We put a DO NOT DISTURB sign on door as we went to breakfast at 9:00. Returned at 10 & took sign off. Left at 11 for lunch. Returned at 2. Room not serviced. Front desk said they are paid $4 a room and leave. Makes no sense. Just be aware if you desire fresh towels and room tidied.
Great value for the money. Clean and updated rooms. Courteous service. Great in-room coffee. Free breakfast offered with numerous options. Convenient to town and local attractions. Definitely would stay again.
The front desk staff was professional and friendly. My room was spacious; quite a bit larger than I anticipated. The complementary breakfast was not extravagant, but was very nice; perfect for my needs.
staff very nice breakfast was very good I would recommend for people to stay. I think when you ask for a review and it has to have a minimum of 200 characters is a little much take what I'm recommending and let it go at that
The hotel was clean, up-to-date, and bright. Our room was very nice and the bed was comfortable. The shower worked very well but the tub drained slowly. The breakfast selection was average compared to other hotels offering breakfast, but it was hot and fresh-tasting. The dining room was spacious, clean, and bright. The front desk person, Jim, when we checked in late (midnight) was extremely welcoming and friendly.
Before last year this was just an ok Holiday Inn. It has become a Best Western and is like new . Fresh paint, different decor and really good breakfast makes it a place where we won't be "having to stay". Ask for a room facing the forest.
Continental breakfast was more then average. No problems or interruptions from staff unless I ask ?Well I was Doing Good Until This Survey Ask Me To Type 200 characters as a minimum how stupid are people that want feed back !!!
Expected the place to be in better condition due to renovation 2 yrs ago. Bathroom toilet was dirty, questionable spots on the shower wall & curtain. Not well maintained. Fire alarm went off 2xs at night.
Very nice rooms and a great breakfast. The night clerk was a little grumpy but the morning staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and the sheets luxurious. The mattress was very nice. It's set back off the main road so it's very quiet. A good experience all around.
Excellent service, good rooms - all you would ask of any motel: good beds, super clean, good breakfast, free parking. Kudo's to this motel in the small but very interesting community along the Chesapeake. We stayed here while planning a ferry trip to Tangier Island in the Bay.
Spacious well appointed room and bathroom; plenty of towels; great breakfast, gracious and helpful staff. Micriwave in room, free coffee in the lobby. Good location. Stayed here after the Urbana Oyster Festival. I'd stay here again!
Very nice, clean hotel. The hotel had just regained electricity from hurricane Michael so tv was not up and running but staff was very nice and hotel was clean. My parents were without electricity and water so this was a blessing.
The hotel was pleasant and comfortable with an outstanding staff. Breakfast was delicious with lots of specialty items. Our only issue was that the construction of the building itself led to an unusually high level of noise.
Stay 2 nights. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was quite good each morning. At check-in there was a question about my rate. Staff was a little put off by my asking. Spoke with Manager next day and rate was corrected.
This hotel is poorly built so dealing with noise from adjacent rooms is a big annoyance. The cleaning crews are very conspicuous with their equipment. Interior is falling apart despite the recent upgrades. It's just not a good hotel but you'll pay a to for it.
The last time we stayed at this hotel it was a Holiday Inn Express. Did not see any changes since it changed ownership. The staff was very friendly & the rooms very clean. Our only complaint is the other guests--- they did not care how loud they talked in the room next to us. Plus, they kept the tv on all night. Other people talked loudly walking past our room very early in the morning. The people above us kept dropping something & they walked very heavily. They had no consideration for anyone else.
There are not a lot of choices for the area, and I think that is what keeps this place going. The amenities are average, and the place is a bit dated. However the people there are very nice, and they keep the property clean. The breakfast is a standard buffet style with eggs, sausage, fruit, cereal, muffins, etc. and the Wi-Fi worked well. I don't think you would be disappointed staying here, just don't set your expectations very high. It's not bad, just average.
I would not recommend this property to anyone with chance that the counter person would be the same .I was happy to leave. The internet had a strange password and it took the counter person two times to get me online. She told us she only had suites or two double beds. When we looked outside we only saw ten cars I had to sleep in a double bed with my wife . This very bad.
I wasn't sure what kind of place to expect in this little town, and I have actually never stayed in a Best Western before, but I was pleased with our stay. The hotel is set back from the main road and you don't hear any street noise. In fact, it was pretty quiet. The room and bathroom were clean. Pretty good hair dryer. The king bed was firm and seemed new. Good TV with lots of channels. All the hotel employees were very friendly and helpful. Our rate included free breakfast which was fresh, hot and filling. The only bad thing was that the pipes banged when people in other rooms took showers.
I recently stayed at the Best Western in Kilmarnock and I have to say it was great. Before I book at a hotel that Im not familiar with I read the reviews from other people. I read a couple of reviews that mentioned a desk clerk by the name of Tamika saying how she was in so many words awesome. Well I had the opportunity to meet Tamika when I stayed and she was awesome. Not know who she actually was when I checked in I mentioned her name and for my surprise it was her checking me in. She is in fact very professional and have excellent customer service skills. The rooms are very clean and the beds are wonderful. If I ever come back to Kilmarnock I would stay at the Best Western and hopefully have the pleasure of meeting Tamika again.
I make sure that whenever i stay at a hotel i get the names of the people who checked me in, checked me out and gave me any type of service with that being said let me start off by saying my check in was awful. After driving 5 hours and checking in late around 1230 am i had to stand at the desk and listen to the desk clerk (keena was her name) on her personal telephone in the back. After waiting until she finished i got checked in. I wasnt told about the breakfast which i already knew the hotel had.My room was lovely the bed was comfortble and cozy. My checkout was with Tamika she asked me about my stay and was very friendly. I mentioned to her about my check in experience and she was very apologetic which changed my mind about calling customer care on the first desk clerk. The housekeeper lady i think her name was tafee was also great she brought me linen when i asked and i didnt have to wait like i did when i checked in. Overall i had a great stay. I would stay again and when i do i just hope to have someone different to check me in.
I stayed at this hotel 12/2/17-12/3/17 for a buisness trip in the area. It amazed me on how better it looked from when it was the hoilday inn. The room was very clean and up to date. The lady at the desk....Tameka was increditable. She was very friendly and informative. A job well done. When i had a problem with my tv not connecting Tameka was right on it. The breakfast was good and the service provide to me was great. I would recommend this hotel for anybody. Jobs well done.
The staff was really great especially Tamika. She helped me when my reservation was screwed up and she was very willing and determined. I give her a 5 star. The breakfast was ok. Housekeepers were great.
The hotel was clean, staff was nice, but the noise...you could hear low-tone conversations in the next room, the poor guy snoring all night, door slamming...all they need is some insulation and it would be a very nice experience!
Excellent stay at this Best Western; Kilmarnock, VA. Very friendly staff and clean hotel. If I have to stay in that area again, I would choose this hotel again! Maybe next year; we were there for the 60th anniversary of Urbanna's Oyster Festival, and this hotel was not far from the event.
Two glitches in great stay. . Bathrooms are the slipperiest tile we'd ever seen. Treacherous in handicapped room! Went through towels like crazy from having to dry it whenever we showered or even used sink. Closet way too small
I stayed here for business nearby. Conveniently located and reasonably priced. Welcoming staff, clean and comfortable room. Breakfast was not great, limited food out but I am not a huge fan of breakfast anyway.
Housekeeping will knock on your door way before checkout and do not pay attention to DND signs on the door. Don't make a complaint as they will ignore you and make you feel like it is your fault for their incompetence. I have stayed here plenty in the past, but the last 2 trips have me re-thinking my choices. Airbnb and Home-away have lots of choices in the area and they may be getting my business and $$ from now on.
A caring staff took good care of my experience at this property. Easy to work with. The check in and check out process was very simple which allowed me to spend time on other things. I look forward to my next visit! Thank you.
Check out time is 11 am and I was a little late leaving the room - received multiple calls from the front desk and could hear in the background whom I could only assume was the manager talking rudely about me
If you can avoid having to stay in this establishment, please do. There was late night noise way into early morning; not enough breakfast items to handle the tenants in the morning; cleanliness and serviceability of the room; as well as issues with my rate.
Stayed just one night for family reasons. The hotel is nicely furnished, crisp white bed linens, comfy bed, updated furnishings, well-equipped, well-lit and vented bathroom. Breakfast was OK but the "hot" items were lukewarm. Satisfactory variety of foods were offered and the room was well-maintained. Convenient location.
Basic hotel; very nice and friendly staff Dated decor and furnishings In room coffee, microwave and frig Ok breakfast including hot entrees Has standalone heat/cool units that are noisy and have no way to keep the fan running so it didn't wake me up repeatedly Limited sound proofing meant you hear people coming and going in hall and neighboring rooms
We travel to Kilmarnock, Virginia often to see Don Lee at the Kilmarnock Brew Haus. The Best Western Kilmarnock Hotel is our hotel of choice. Its lobby and rooms are decorated well, with comfortable beds and pillows. There is a nice variety of foods for breakfast and warm freshly baked chocolate chip cookies in the evening. And the price is reasonable. What else could one want from a hotel? We highly recommend staying at the Best Western in Kilmarnock!
We arrived late on our first night. It was obvious due to the presence of hair in the bed and an odd vague odor that the sheets were not fresh. We were exhausted so I did not complain. The toilet seat was also broken which we mentioned to the front desk in the morning. We had a lot to do the next day. When we returned later in the day the bed was made but the sheets were, again, not changed. I had left a tip for the housekeeper too!! Additionally the toilet seat was still broken. I complained and we were offered an upgrade, which I declined. We just wanted fresh sheets. We went out for more errands and thankfully returned to a fresh bed. Day two...same thing, the sheets were not changed. This time I didn't care because I knew who had been in the bed the night before. The rug has not been vacuumed either as the same staple sits in the same place it was when we checked in. No tip this time, I did not feel one was deserved. Laziness does not get rewarded. The bathroom was ok, definitely not cleaned well. The toilet paper had been dropped in something wet and left. Good thing there was a spare roll. Breakfast was the requisite reconstituted powdered eggs and cold sausage. The tables were dirty and other options sparse. You could hear everything going on in the hallways and adjoining rooms. Common courtesy is lacking with guests talking loudly in groups in the hallways. We fortunately will never need to visit this area again so there will be no need to come back.
The Best Western hotel in Kilmarnock, VA was purchased from Holiday Inn Express a couple of years ago. Holiday Inn Express sold this facility because it did not meet their standards, so.... While the facility is only about 10 years old, it had an older odor. The noise in the hallways was very disturbing. The noise from the TV next door came through the wall. Best Western's staff are excellent. The breakfast area was well done and the staff was excellent.
This hotel is very clean and the staff is very courteous to all. They do a great job at this hotel. I would definitely suggest this hotel for anyone coming to the area. Our room was great, the bed was terrific and soft enough.
I've stayed here numerous times over the years and have seen ownership/management change as well. Pleasant experience. Would recommend to anyone visiting in the area. It's a quiet place and convenient to my friends and family.
The entire experience was great. The hotel was remodeled 5 months ago. The staff was polite and helpful. The rooms were very nice. The beds were comfortable. We had a room with two double beds and it also had a microwave and fridge.
Very clean hotel, friendly staff. Breakfast was great, plenty of options and was hot. Will stay here again when in the area. Close to restaurants and other shopping if you forgot to pack anything. Also a quick drive to the river.
As the title states, this is the only hotel in Kilmarnock, other than a few B&B's in the area. It is a very nice BW as BWs go...clean, comfortable, & convenient. The breakfast was average. Pool was nice and well taken care of. We enjoyed the Northern Neck and took in the local flavor. We were there to check out an ancestral home and cemetery. Enjoyed the local seafood! About an hour from Williamsburg. We liked being away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist area.
This was a great choice for a 3 day business trip in the area of Kilmarnock, VA. Hotel was clean and beds were very comfortable. Close enough to many food venues. Although most close at 8pm. We will stay at this hotel again.
Essentially the only non-resort in town. Convenient to everything. Pleasant stay. The pillows are very firm and overstuffed which is bad for us stomach sleepers. I slept without any. Adequate for a quick trip.
We stayed at the hotel for a wedding. The price is high but Best Western is the only hotel in town!! The hotel was clean, but linens need to be upgraded--however, they were clean. The employees were very helpful and professional.
Use to be a Holiday Inn. Renovated. Room looked new. The only name brand hotel in town. Stayed 2 nights. Visited with relatives. Bed was comfortable, but for some reason, the sheet cover came off at the corners. Pulled it back on, but there were no elasticity on it to stay down.
Stayed here for two nights and enjoyed the free breakfast and pleasant staff. The one issue was a lingering smell of cigarette smoke. The first room we had was overpowering so we changed rooms and the 2nd one was much better. Also the staff was slow to replenish the breakfast offerings as there as a good crowd staying at the hotel.
I had a great stay at the BW in Kilmarnock. Would gladly stay there again on my next visit. The bed could have been a bit more comfortable but all of the other amenities were fine. Good breakfast and great location.
The first night of the stay was great, the second, not so much. Lots of noise (music, door slamming, loud people walking by) all night. I heard the Front Desk Manager come by and speak with those in the room but the disturbance continued until well into the night. It began again at 6am. Not a good night's sleep at all.
The staff is very friendly, but if you ask one employee and then another, you get different answers. I was told on the phone that the hotel has queen size beds and when I arrived they only had standard beds. I tryed to change the reservation back to the original with one king bed, but I was told they did not have any available for the week end. The next morning the clerk told me they did have opening and I changed rooms and added a roll away bed. I was mad because I was charge extra for the bed. Any way I could go on. Bottom line I will not be staying at this B W anymore.
RARELY, in this class of hotel, do I find a place with NOTHING lacking!. Front Desk was efficient and friendly, rooms were VERY nice. Housekeeping was perfect. TONS of TV channels on a nice TV. Exercise room fully operational, grounds clean and breakfast was hot and good. TWO THUMBS UP!!!!!
Stayed here visiting mother. Needed to extend the stay multiple times and the staff was very accommodating. Walls and floors allow some sound transmission so the rooms are not extremely quiet but they are comfortable.
Overall, we loved the Hotel. It was clean & comfortable. There isn't much to do closeby, but we had a nice time. There are limited restaurant choices. Parking is easy. Breakfast is basic. The price is ok.
This Best Western replaced the Holiday Inn Express of Kilmarnock. We find it to be better maintained (i.e., cleaner) than the HI had been, and staffed by friendly, helpful personnel. The breakfast was fine with plenty food options, and the breakfast space was clean and neat. As small town hotels go, the Best Western is more than adequate.
New, Named changed finally, prefer to have staff that knows you as a repeat guest, makes traveling easier. Nice to have staff that knows what you want away from home to make your stay easier. Breakfast attendant is rude doesnt seem to like her job
No longer a Holiday Inn, the motel is in the midst of being updated and refurbished and will soon be a member of the Best Western family. The rooms are comfortable and as pleasant as any smaller motel in this category. That said, there are certainly things that need to be done, but it doesn't detract from the overall lodging experience. My (minor) complaint was that the place needs more exterior lighting so that it stands out at night. I was told that it's coming. I rate it as average since the work isn't finished; however, we can certainly recommend the rooms--and their free breakfast.
We stayed here during a Family Reunion and had a good experience. The hotel serves free continental breakfast which was ok but suggested to eat somewhere else. The property has a pool in the back which was clean also. Pros Service from the employees Clean Pool Area Cons Rooms need an upgrade Upgrade on the elevator
The staff was o.k. work being done inside [ now called the Kilmarnock hotel and suites ]. Very busy in the hallways, moving building materials. They gave us ear plugs for the noise-TRUE. Men doing the work inside the hotel were nice to us . Breakfast bar was not as good as were were hoping for. Would not stay in this hotel again.
Looking forward to seeing the renovated version of this hotel!! The hotel was clean and the staff was so nice. We were in town for a funeral so we had multiple rooms for families. They allowed us to use the breakfast room for the evenings so we could enjoy pizza dinners all together. Staff was so accommodating requests for extra towels, blankets, hot water for tea, etc. cookies and coffee all day in the lobby were a nice treat! Everyone was so nice. The hotel does need the updating. Our room was at the end of the hall and the door slammed many times during the night.
This is your typical, predictable Holiday Inn. Staff were friendly. Free buffet breakfast was fine. Front desk were pleasant. All sounds good. Thought the price too high for a Holiday Inn: I'm used to much lower. But then what other decent choices are there for the Kilmarnock? Our room was fine. The noise was NOT. Some men, one in particular, spoke in extreme high decibels from 11 PM until 1 AM (when I finally must have fallen asleep). It sounded as if he was in the lobby area. But, if so, why was he not asked to SHUT UP? I considered getting dressed and finding the culprit, but that is not my normal style. Instead I kept thinking surely this man would go to bed. The other noise came from overhead. Did that hotel guest have insomnia? Is that why he/she paced back and forth this entire same time frame? Perhaps I should have just called the front desk on both issues, so my fault? The third noise issue was the in-room refrigerator which was solved by unplugging it. Let me add I am usually NOT a problem-getting-to-sleep person. My advice, if you do stay here, get a room on the top floor since the sound-proofing is an issue.
