"Lethargy kills interactions."

There are more people in that building that don’t care enough to make a difference to be worth staying there. There were more phones in hands and up to ears than any tools for doing their jobs. If you’re personal life is that important, then stay home.

great location and our check in was good. the gentleman that worked the counter was very nice. Good customer service with the day staff. Not all of the amenities were working in proper order. our room did not have a phone, not all the elevators were working properly, and our room did not have all the coffee pot parts to make our one cup of coffee.

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
My elevators have not been out of service except for regular service for quite a while so I will check with my front desk. New coffee pots are always available at the front desk upon request. Half of my phones are giving problems and the spare parts should be arriving any day now. I apologize for the inconvenience.

"Rundown & stinky"

User 08/06/2019

Just got here with my son for a relaxing getaway at the beach. After not booking online and only going from hotel to hotel trying to get a room we were able to finally get a room here at Best Western 8710 Seawall Blvd. As you enter you notice it's not the fanciest or cleanest but it wasn't bad...then you check in and head down to the elevators...that's when the smell and the uneasy feeling started to hit! I tried to keep positive but when we got to the 3rd floor the ac was out and it was so hot and muggy. The smell of must and body odor was strong. As we entered our room that's when my son and I just looked at each other and said NO WAY!!! It was so depressing, hot, stinky, and rough looking!! This hotel wanted to charge me $224 for one night for this! I couldn't do it! I highly recommend that you keep looking it's not even worth “last resort”!!! The only good thing of all of it was the very nice front desk lady that I felt bad to tell that we were not going to stay there and I wanted my money back!! 2 Thumbs down!!!

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
I have noted your comments and will certainly follow up on them.

"Just a few minor problems"

First and for most if you have laminate flooring in a place put rugs down by the beds so we dont have to use our hand towels to put on the floor cause no one want to sleep in dirt and were are the safes you have some scetchy people working there i want a place to keep my money and credit cards so i dont have to keep that all on me when i leave the property and if you are gonna book all the people at the motel then make sure you have enough food to feed people and if you tell people the pool is closed at 11 then close it cause it aint fair to others who would have been down there after hours to swim and clean the doors going out to the balconys the door was cleaner on the outside then the inside

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
We do have safe deposit boxes at the front desk. Mats by the side of the bed on a laminate floor are a fall hazard and not recommended in a hotel. being on the beach we have a lot of salt and sand to cope with, especially with the wind blowing from the southwest straight in to the rooms on the eastside of the building. I apologize for the inconvenience.

"Not a great stay."

Renee B, Hornbeck,La. 05/06/2019

Front desk staff was not friendly. Room was mostly clean. Floors did not feel like they were clean and they are hardwood. Location was great across the road from the beach. Door on the room let every light in the hallway come thru the frame. Didn't sleep because of light and wondering if someone was going to try and come in.

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
We would have gladly moved you to another room upon request. We have never had an intruder probems and the door do lock securely. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Housekeeping was garbage. At bedtime we discovered our 2 king beds were incorrectly made. They had queen sheets on, tried several times to ring the front desk. Didnt work. Had to go to the front desk and told them the issue and was given the proper size linens. The bathroom was only stocked with towels and hand towels. Requested washcloths, they didnt have any, was told to use the hand towels to wash up with. Our room had a funky smell to it, and was extremely dusty. I remedied that with lysol wipes and a febreeze plug in. Swimming pool was cloudy and the towel bin stayed empty our while visit. Seems like the staff is VERY lazy.

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
Sorry to hear about your problems. I will definitely take it up with my management team.

"Amazing breakfast, some cleanliness issues"

4
User 25/05/2019

The rooms are very nice here but unfortunately were not cleaned properly beforehand (dirty washcloth hanging in shower, dirt on sides of bed, floor not swept good) and made me a bit weary about if the beds were actually cleaned. Luckily I'm not a germaphobe. The while 2nd floor also smelled a bit like mildew but considering it's literally directly across the street from the beach I can overlook that. The breakfast was AMAZING!!!!!! Staff was very helpful and friendly as well. I would stay there again and hopefully the cleanliness issue was just a fluke.

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback and comments. when we have strong winds blowing in off the beach it does tend to bring the smell of the beach and seaweed in to the hotel. I will check the second floor after the Memorial Day weekend.

"HORRIBLE!!!"

User 23/05/2019

When we got to desk they were more worried about their "wings" that went missing than greeting and checking us in. Upon arrival to room, everything was wet and sweating due to ac not working. They did come and change it out. The room smelled so clean when we got there, tile floors, but spilled water and when cleaned up with towel, looked like mud!!! Filthy! The roof leaked in corner whole time, didn't want bother of relocation, so put trash can under. Did not get linen unless went to desk and requested. They tried to check us out day early, messed up reservation- phone chargers went missing. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
Your comments are acknowledged. I regret that you had a problem and that you did not give us the opportunity to remedy the situation in a prompt and timely manner.

"Poorly maintaned location"

1
Sunshine20419659750, Houston, Texas 20/05/2019

First off, the a/c in the lobby was not working which made it very uncomfortable to stand in line for 20+ minutes to check in. The lady at the counter talked with such speed and lack of care, I barely understood anything she was saying. When we got up to our room, it had a foul smell. when I walked into the bathroom, the shower curtain rod was being held up by a piece of paper which I removed but immediately put back up because it was the only thing holding the rod from falling. The faucets were loose and felt like the handle was going to fall off when you opened it. Overall maintenance was very poor at this location. I understand its a beach side economy hotel, but basic maintenance should be a given at all times no matter where the hotel is located. Definitely not recommending this location to anyone in the future. If anything, Ill warn them to stay away.

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
Unfortunately we had a power surge on Saturday which blew out three of my first floor A/C units. They were repaired yesterday, Monday, and are now working correctly. We are prone to voltage surges on Galveston island and these incidents are out of our control. Please do not hesitate to bring problems to our attention during your stay and we will make every effort to correct or remedy the situation.

"OK location, very average hotel."

Chaperone, Campbell, CA 19/05/2019

No restaurants within walking distance. Quieter end of town. Walls not soundproof. Beach is smaller, across the street & down steep stairs. Small pool was clean as was the hot tub. Not the cleanest place, nor particularly well maintained. Poor quality of painting, drips, over wall paper border. Floors sticky. Linens were good quality.

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback. All of our linens have been replaced in the past few months and are from a brand approved vendor. I will pass your comments back to Best Western. There is a restaurant on the fishing pier about 250 yards to the west and a group of restaurants to the east around Walmart.

"Good value for price"

User 13/05/2019

Although the hotel had a few cleanliness issues, the staff was very nice. Our room was very spacious. There was a good variety at breakfast, even had almond milk coffee creamer. Good location but couldn't actually go to beach across from hotel.

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
We have petitioned the City of Galveston for a pedestrian crossing to be constructed in front of the properties.

Got to breakfast early. Watched the employee sit and eat after she yelled at us not to touch food until 6 on the dot. Cause that 10 minutes was going to hurt. We got there late in the evening the front desk girl didnt even put her phone down to check us in.

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
I am in receipt of your postings on different websites. I will contact my breakfast attendants and make sure that they follow our policy correctly. I apologize for your inconvenience.

The Best Western was very clean, the staff was courteous and the location was great. My kids enjoyed the clean pool and the hot breakfast. We had a large group and everyone seemed to be accommodated and happy with the stay.

"Don't stay at best western or Best Western Plus 2 doors down"

1
SandraSDallas, Dallas, Texas 26/04/2019

Best Western is horrible, bugs in our room. There was no lock to the outside balcony door, there was rust all in the door jams. The best western plus two doors down has the RUDEST manager I've ever encountered. Called customer service and they were just as rude. Thanks

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
I am sorry that you had a problem at the Best Western Plus. I have no control over that hotel. We have an occasional problem with the Texas tree roaches coming up through the drains but this is common throughout the island. They live in the palm trees I believe. We treat the rooms and drains at very regular intervals and receive very few complaints. We are in the process of replacing all of the balcony hardware where necessary and the balcony railings have all been replaced.

"Excellent Hotel, but..."

Philip S, Groveton, Texas 16/04/2019

The room was great (beds are firm) the reception was excellent. NAE did a great job checking us in. I would have given this hotel a 5, however there were a couple things that bugged me. First, the Jacuzzi was filthy. Secondly, I asked for an extra pillow and was told they did not have extra pillows for customers. Hmmmm. Is this a new thing? OK, it was a good hotel for the money and the location was excellent. It is right across from the Galveston Fishing Pier. I would definitely stay there again.

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
We clean the jacuzzi twice a day and it gets a lot of use, especially during the weekends. I will pass your comments on to my maintenance team

"Guests are not their first priority at this hotel!!"

2
BusyB075, Humble, Texas 16/04/2019

This property has got to have the rudest, most obnoxious staff I have ever the displeasure of encountering. Not knowing the breakfast area closed at 9 am (we probably should've looked ourselves, but no mention of breakfast hours were offered up at check in as most hotels do) we left our room on the 3rd floor about 915 am to check out the selection. After waiting 15 minutes for the elevator to reach the 3rd floor, we began our journey to the first floor. When the elevator doors opened, we were delighted to find out they offered a free housekeeping cart obstacle course. 3 huge carts complete with 3 housekeepers blocking every angle of trying to get to the lobby. I'm not sure what the one housekeepers "baby daddy" did, but the other 2 sure as hell weren't going to move their carts to accommodate guests trying to get out of or on the elevator while they were chatting it up with one another. I get they do not have service elevators, but a manager that allows their staff to block the elevators and most of the hallway leading to the lobby, while the staff stands around and talks loudly about their personal life is a manager that should think about a career change. That is not a manager that is training their team about guest service or thinking about the best interest of the company they work for and represent. Once we finally make it through to the lobby, you guessed it, breakfast over. (Who ends breakfast at 9 am on a Sunday???) We went outside for a bit, about 15 minutes later headed back to the housekeeping cart obstacle course. The 3 ladies were still in the exact same position chatting it up about "baby daddy". I attempted to go around the warm body and her cart that was closest to and still blocking the elevator. She purposely pushed her cart in front of me, now fully blocking any elevator access. I turned around and said "are you serious"? Then one of the staff members said "the stairs are over there, you can take those". We went directly to the front desk to complain to the MOD and her guest service driven response was "they have a job to do so other people can have a clean room". Well guess what, I can see why, based off other reviews, why rooms aren't ready at check in.. it's not because of high turn around as the GM states in his condescending replies, it is because the staff stands around for chat sessions instead of getting to work. Best Western needs to take a serious look at the staff they have representing their brand at this location. The proof is in all the reviews about the same thing. I will never spend another dime at this hotel, which is sad because the hotel itself wasn't bad, it was the staff that made this a horrible stay. I apologize this review was very long winded, but I couldn't explain our experience in lesser words. Best of luck if you choose to stay..

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
Your feedback is noted. I apologize for the inconvenience.

"I can't give them a zero!!!"

1
User 15/04/2019

Get a GM that doesn't verbally attack your guests because they have a service dog. This man was RUDE beyond words. Instead of addressing me, he was preaching to everyone in the lobby. Even walking to the other side, like he's putting on presentation. When he was addressing me, he was trying to intimidate me, getting into my personal space! I tried to back up, he would move in closer! The next morning, he was having the front desk staff look for less when I went to breakfast. They didn't see me because no one was at the front desk. When I headed back to my room, I hear her shout "shes already ate" This man, needs to be gone!! He is going to get Best Western into a hell of a lawsuit!!

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
I am in receipt of your email and previous posting and acknowledge receipt of the same. I regret that you misinterpreted my questions regarding your service animal. When I asked what task the animal performed for you became very defensive and said in a very loud voice that I was not allowed to ask any questions about your service animal. When you brought back the service animal collar with a certificate on it I brought to your attention that it stated very clearly that the only question allowed under the ADA regulations is what task the animal performed for you. We welcome service animals to our hotel but we are not a pet friendly property and therefore it is often necessary to ask a guest who wants to bring a service animal on to the property a few basic questions.. I came to the lobby to speak with you instead of communicating from behind the front desk out of politeness and respect. I'm sorry that you saw it to be something otherwise. I am confused about your comments regarding the morning after because I did not come on to property until 1pm and was definitely not there for the breakfast.

"Rude Front Desk"

Checked in close to midnight and was greeted by Ebony, who was not very pleasant. When mentioned this to a manager, he stated, “this is how it's done in Texas”, I was very surprised at the poor customer service!

I had a flat tire too late for anyone to fix it and stayed here on a last whim. Check in was quick and easy. The toilet in my room was clogged when I got there, but the staff took care of it in a timely manner.

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your comments and feedback. I hope that you were able to get your tire fixed okay.

There was a massive water leak in our room from the air conditioner in the middle of the night where our daughter was sleeping in her sleeping bag. When we told the front desk they did nothing and gave our daughter a bag of cheetos.

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
I replied to your previous post on the Best Western website yesterday. The leak was from very heavy rain being blown in through the A/C unit by high winds off the beach and we are looking for a solution to prevent future problems. I heard about your problem yesterday and refunded your charges for the stay immediately before I read your complaint I apologize for the inconvenience..

"Little to be desired"

Stayed here for one night. Ok hotel, if they did some deep cleaning it would help alot. Could use some maintenance upkeep as well. Breakfast was fine. Hot tub and pool was open. As we were leaving, saw a cockroach in the room

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your comments. I will have the room treated today. We apologize for the inconvenience.

"A good plae to stay"

4
User 23/03/2019

I came here because it is not Comfort Suite also on the West end that refused to honor a rate I was promised. No more Choice Hotels for me! BW West is a good place to stay if you want a nice accommodation and don't want to spend the big bucks for the luxury level place. This is a clean, comfortable, well-appointed hotel at a reasonable rate, competitive with other hotels of its level in Galveston. I would say above average in the entire range of hotels in general, and certainly competitive with other facilities in its price range. A good place to stay at a reasonable rate. Breakfast? If you travel much, it is like the better of all of them: it sustains life, but leaves you wishing you had gone to IHOP.

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback. We try to give all of our guests a positive experience when they choose to stay with us in Galveston. Breakfast is a constant effort to improve without breaking the bank. On the weekends we will have 400+ guests taking breakfast with 120 rooms sold and we do try to satisfy all tastes. I change up the cereals available for the younger guests and hope in a few weeks time to have a second yogurt machine to offer a second flavor. We appreciate you choosing to stay with us in Galveston.

Great location for walking and shopping. Loved being near the beach. There was plenty to keep you occupied, restaurants near by and could walk the beach and pier. Kid Friendly and safe surroundings !!

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback. We try to be really kid friendly. Just about all of my staff are parents of young ones and know how to relate to both the children and parents. We understand that trying to keep kids quiet and orderly in the pool is like trying to herd cats! We are also working on more kid friendly items at breakfast during the summer season

"Beginning of Spring Break"

3
Jody H, Tomball, Texas 19/03/2019

We had a 4pm check-in for Sunday afternoon, beginnng of Spring Break. We arrived after 5pm and were told our room wouldn't be ready for another hour. No problem, we needed to eat some dinner. Return closer to 7pm, and room still not ready. The front desk was being handled by only one person, and she seemed stressed by too many guests, and not enough help. She was very nice, and helpful, besides being overwhelmed. Finally, we were told our room was ready, and we started to settle in, only to find dirty children's swimsuits, from the previous tenants, laying on the floor of the closet. No towels, so I had to look for the laundry cart in the hallway, so we could take a shower. Not enough staff for the beginning of Spring Break. We only stayed two nights, and after the initial problems, everything smoothed out, fine. The room was quiet, and the breakfast was more that adequate.

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback. We hope you will give us a second chance in the summer.

"Hotel is old and musty"

3
User 19/03/2019

This hotel is right across Seawall boulevard which gives you beach access. Our balcony was small and the balcony door wouldn't lock because of the rust on the door. You could see the beach from the balcony. The hotel is dated and in fact there's anew Best Western less than 100 yards from this one. If you have the option, stay at the newer one. Only stayed one night so it wasn't horrible. Had I been there for an extended stay, I may have looked for something else.

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback. We are in the process of renovating the balconies. We replaced the railing but then the weather changed and we were not able to paint or replace hardware in the rain. Hopefully we will be able to finish the job before the summer holidays.

"Won't stay here again, lots of issues"

2
logandiana, Burleson, Texas 18/03/2019

Let me get the good out of the way first. The location is great! It's right on the seawall blvd across the street from the beach and near the fishing pier. Our particular room even had a balcony. Now the long list of the bad. We got there at 3:30 and I went in to check in. I was told very bluntly by they front desk lady that the check in time was 4pm. But then she said she would look to see if anything was open yet. I had made the reservation through a 3rd party and it only reserved a king bed room. Most of the time I reserve a room with two beds, but didn't this time. I was hoping possibly I could change it at check in and possibly even pay the difference if needed, but I was rudely met with "No, you booked through a 3rd party, so it's impossible". So off to the room, upon opening the door to the room we were greeted with a horrible musty smell. It smelled like a smoking room mixed with something burnt and old and wet. Since this was the only room I guess we just had to deal with it. I had been prepared for the possibility of not being able to upgrade the room and I brought my camping cot with me. The room was spacious and as mentioned before had a small balcony that overlooked the pool, and the seawall and pier. The walls and ceilings were way too thin, you could hear TV, people talking, walking, jumping, stomping all from other surrounding rooms. The room had several issues in need of repair. The light switches in the bathroom looked about to fall off the panel. The screws holding the deadbolt throw on the patio door were falling out. The paint was chipped and scuffed everywhere. The floor was not swept and was sticky in some places. The TV had static and distortion on almost all the channels we wanted to watch. In the morning we got down to breakfast at 8:55 and find that the breakfast closes at 9am. I helped my girls through the line to get them what they wanted. The choices weren't as plentiful as I'd hoped. Most of the stuff was depleted and since they were stopping breakfast soon, they hadn't bothered to fill anything back up. I got my girls situated and by the time I go to go through the line myself, the kitchen staff had already started unplugging toasters, and removing stuff, to prevent anyone from getting anything else even 1 second after 9am. I was able to get a bowl of cereal, but the milk was out, and of course I was told breakfast is over when I asked about it. We went and did our thing that day and didn't return to the hotel until later in the afternoon. We got to walk back in and enjoy that wonderful smell again! They had made up the room, but didn't give us anymore clean towels. This was okay, because I didn't plan to spend any time showering anyway. That evening, the pool just below the room was packed with kids. They were loud and rowdy like kids around the pool are, but at 9pm at night the noise hadn't changed, then at 10pm the noise hadn't changed. By around 10:45 I tried to call down to the front office, but the phone in our room didn't work. I looked the phone number up and called on my cell phone. I asked the front desk what the hours were at the pool, since EVERY SINGLE HOTEL I have ever stayed at in my life has a hotel quiet time from usually 10pm -7am, and ALL have pool hours of 10am-10pm. The front desk said the pool closes at 11:45pm!! Seriously? I told the front desk that we are trying to sleep, and wanted to see if she could do something. And she responded that they were paying guests as well... so she really couldn't... OMG! are you kidding me?? I guess that means that I can run down the hallways of the hotel at 10:45 at night screaming and blasting an air horn, because, well after all I am a paying guest of the hotel!! What a joke. The next day we went out again for the day to do our thing, and when we got back at around 5:00pm, they hadn't even made up our room, it was just as we had left it that morning. Same great smell too!! That evening I went to the vending machine on my floor to get a soda. I put in two dollars, and made my selection. The machine made a bunch of noise and then gave me 8 quarters back. I went to the 3rd floor vending machine, and put in my 8 quarters and got nothing. So I had to go down to the front desk to try to get my money back. They front desk lady seemed hesitant at first to my story then was finally prompted to give me my money back by some English chap that walked up. Then they suggested I try the 1st floor vending machine. I did, made my selection, and... Warm soda. Great. I am sure being a busy hotel right on the seawall has it's challenges and maybe this was just a bad few days at that hotel, but I cannot recommend.

Thank you for your feedback and comments. I apologize for the problems that you encountered. The soda machines are the property of Coca Cola and therefore we do not have access to them or the ability to open them up at all. They are filled and checked every week and I will bring the problems to attention of the driver when they come by this week. I will have a word with my breakfast staff about the breakfast times. We run 6am to 9am with a check out time of 11am and this gives my housekeeping staff a relatively narrow window to turn the rooms around. I am aware that other hotel chains do run breakfast through until 10am and this can cause some confusion. This Spring Break was different in a number of ways. The water temperature was in the low 60's but the kids weren't bothered by this and kept the pool busy all the time. They were relatively well behaved though and did not cause any damage during their stay but to control them at times is like herding cats. We started renovating the balconies this month and this is ongoing. We replaced the balcony railing and unfortunately the weather stopped a lot of further progress. This week we are taking advantage of the sunshine to paint the balconies, doors and grills etc and it will be about 6-8 weeks before we complete the task. A lot of the hardware will be replaced at the same time. With most of the hotels on the island being non smoking properties, we have a lot of guests asking for balconies so that they can smoke and enjoy an adult beverage in the evening. We do not suggest or condone it, but we cannot prevent the guests enjoying the view and relaxing. My young lady on the front desk is relatively new to the hotel business and it was the first time she had met with the problem of the soda machine taking a guests money and not vending anything. I am pleased that we were able to make the refund on behalf of Coca Cola.

"short vacation of 2 nights."

User 07/03/2019

Hotel was very good. Room was clean and large for the price; 2 king size beds and a sitting area- $142 for 2 nights. Free breakfast was excellent - hot and cold items with good varieties. Easy and plentiful parking. Only negatives are that I was never able to connect any of my devices to the BW wireless internet; I could actually connect to the Holiday Inn wireless next door while in the breakfast area but never to the BW wireless. Other negative is that the beach directly across the street from the hotel would not be a good area for families to play; the water comes nearly to the seawall and large rocks are placed there to lessen erosion. You would need to go down the seawall about a 1/2 mile to find a suitable play area.

the rate was great and the room was very clean. my only problem was an item was that we left and item in our room upon check. We returned about 2 hours later to get it and had no luck what so ever. I would have hoped that the cleaning staff would have been honest and gave us our property back but we never heard anything back from the hotel management.

The staff at BW are extremely friendly, professional and will offer exemplary service at all times. That's the opinion I hold after staying with them yesterday. I must express my sincere appreciation of Kimberly at the reception. She is polite, professional, and simply the best. Eng. JDL

When we arrived, we were greeted by a smile and friendliness from the employee at the registration desk. In our room, the bed was comfortable and was clean. The morning continental breakfast was good and the employee that was there was helpful. We will be back.

We stay here quite a bit, perhaps four-six times per year for a staycation getaway and I do some business there as well. The ladies checking in are lovely young ladies as well as the breakfast hostess. The coffee was actually really, really good that morning. Having a great deal on a beach front hotel does NOT equal a pass to lose one's manners. Do the little ones HAVE to run down the hallway and scream? Could we possibly understand some travelers might be waking up super early to get on the road? Great view. Plentiful breakfast. Lovely staff. Awesome breeze coming in balcony.

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
Please let us know when you have a problem with noise etc. Most times it only takes one call to solve the problem. We changed the coffee recently and now we are back to the Nestle brand - as one guest called it 'proper coffee'. I'm pleased that you enjoyed the change. We also have more than doubled the breakfast selections in yogurt, cereals etc. We appreciate you choosing to stay with us in Galveston.

We were having a terrible night and tried two hotels before this one and I havent gotten a better night sleep in so long room was clean the girl at the front desk was awesome and in the morning I was running a little late checking out because I didn't want to leave the breakfast was phenomenal and when I told them I was going to be a little late checking out they didn't hassle me it was so quiet and when I went to check out the manager Michael personally approached me to ask how my stay was great it was great definitely will be staying here from now on every time we come to Galveston thank y'all so much for being a great place to get some great sleep

This hotel is right on the Seawall, which is cool. Getting across the street to the Seawall is not easy unless you walk to the light. There is a restaurant/bar right across the street but other than that there is not much around this hotel. The hotel needs some maintenance. The breakfast is huge - a lot of selections.

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback. Hopefully we will be able to get a pedestrian crossing in place in the near future to give easier access to the beach. The City of Galveston have been working to the west improving the beach and access etc over the past two years and they are getting closer to this hotel and the hotels around us. The reintroduction of Lyst and Uber on the island have made it easier to go back and forth if you don't wish to drive. The movie house close to the hotel does very good business as well. Galveston Brewery on Stewart Road behind the hotel has a really good selection of craft beers and is especially popular on the weekends. We are taking the opportunity during the off season to complete a lot of work on the property after Harvey and the heavy rain in 2018. All of our bathtubs have been refurbished to 'as new' and all of the bath rooms have been painted and ventilation restored. We are currently replacing the balcony railings and that task will be completed by the end of this month. Painting and repairs to the exterior are slowly being caught up as we get better weather. I was pleased that you enjoyed our breakfast. We have expanded the options of late and received a lot of compliments from our guests. Regards Michael Bird GM

Hotel was decent, but needed to print something and the only option was using an old computer in the business center that didn't have a internet connection at the time. Very loud, could hear everything going on in hallway, upstairs, and in the rooms next door.

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback. We had the computer technician in today and he restored the guest computers to full working order. The outer cases may look dated but the insides are all brand new and state of the art. We had a problem with the switch/router and when this was replaced everything started to work again. I would have gladly printed something for you in my office and I apologize that my front desk staff did not advise you accordingly. Last weekend we had a couple of hundred younger guests and their enthusiasm was a little loud at times I'm afraid. I just wish that I had their energy. We hope to see you again soon.

"Mold"

1
User 02/01/2019

The hotel is beautifully redone, we were placed in room 314. As soon as we entered you could smell mold, after some searching you could see some spots in the bathroom ceiling. We had plans that day, so I never ended up reporting it. The next morning housekeeping came by and I asked her if she smelled it. She said, "I'm not going to lie, we are working on the issue." She stated that due to it raining for several days that the smell was worse. My husband and I had both had sore throats and chalked it up to seasonal allergies, but now believe it was due to the mold. I requested a new room and we were put in 327. Still you could smell mold, but it was not as severe. They then moved us to 114 and we did not notice an issue there. Sadly, the ladies at the front desk (all 3 were black) were very rude to us and never apologized for the inconvenience. I am not someone that ever leaves reviews, but after a few days of thinking about it, I'm so disappointed. The hotel wasn't full, why put guests in known moldy rooms?

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
I apologize for your problems during your stay with us in Galveston. We have refurbished almost all of our guestrooms since the end of the season and solved just about 100% of the problems caused by ventilation problems in the rooms. Being a seafront property across the road from the beach we have a continuous policy to keep the humidity to a minimum with A/C units designed for seafront locations with a dehumidifier 2 to 3 times the capacity of a standard unit. I have brought your comments to the attention of all of my front desk staff, black, white and brown, and they will be taking extra care with the way that these problems are addressed.

This is just one of the things wrong, couldn't sleep all night and was woken up early by kids running and jumping and when I told front desk all she said was oh I know who ur talking about. I'l talk to them again. Also my room was booked on points but my card was charged instead. Believe all the negative reviews. I really dont know how Best Western is allowing to carry their name. Wont stay here again

I am in receipt of your comments and acknowledge receipt of the same. The problem with your reservation has been cleared up with Best Western, your card refunded and the points deducted from your account.

"Very BAD experience"

1
User 13/12/2018

I made reservations for my family and I online for this hotel, for two rooms (one being a mobility accessible room the other the family room) I had more than enough rewards points to use for these rooms. After booking them, I called the 800 number and verified the reservation. The day before our trip to Galveston, I called the hotel to verify there as well. Both times I asked to be sure they showed that I would be using my points to pay for the rooms. Both women that I spoke to confirmed that. When we got to the hotel, the young lady behind the desk tried to charge my credit cards the full amounts for the rooms. When I explained to her that I would be using my points, she told me that those rooms were not available to use points. She was very rude and after a few phone calls to Corporate, we were given rooms on the 3rd floor, even after I explained REPEATEDLY that one of those rooms needed to be mobility accessible. All of this took over an hour! She also refused to let me speak to a manger and he still has not returned my phone calls or answered my complaints. As I stated, We were given rooms on the 3rd floor, away from the elevator. The best part of the room was the view of the gulf. Everything else was horrible. Both rooms were filthy. The furniture looked like it had not been dusted in weeks, there was dirt and cobwebs in the corners, a black glove over the faucet in one of the bathrooms and a huge brown stain on the white comforter on one of the beds. I reported all of this to the girl at the front desk, and asked her to have the manager call my cell phone. HE DID NOT! My daughter in laws step dad is handicapped and was unable to leave the room once we got him to it! WHY would anyone put a handicapped person on the 3rd floor, much less a handicapped veteran? ( yes she was aware of that) I worked for Best Western for 7 years, and do not stay at other hotels because I know that typically Corporate holds their owners up to certain standards, such as clean rooms and quality customer care. I honestly felt like my daughter in laws step dad was being discriminated against because the young lady at the desk was angry at me. He was basically a prisoner in his room for 3 days. My experience with BW corporate has lacked a lot to be desired as well. I fully expected my points to be returned to me for at least one room but 3 months later they have not been, and they have stopped replying to my emails and phone calls.

Michael B, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
This unfortunately turned in to an ongoing complaint which has since been closed with the corporate office.

Fantastic free breakfast and you are 50 steps from one of the longest sandy beaches I have ever seen Pool was not heated but it had a great heated hot tub. Very helpful and friendly staff. The microwave and fridge in our room allowed us to make a few of our own meals. Just a hop from great local attractions such as Moody Rainforest Pyramid and other great attractions.

"Property had Odor issues"

dpaul452016, Houston, Texas 26/10/2018

the Hotel was clean for the better part, however the property smelled like many things through out. It was not a "musky shore" smell, it was worse. Kimberly at Check in had awesome personality. Diamond the late night staff was rude and had professional speaking issues. We were in our room for about 3 hours before I decided to ask for new room. The room smelled bad of odors. She gave us a new room but made a big deal about it. She said "OMG" when I asked for new room. The pool was clean and well taken care of. The Pool guy was nice and polite too. The breakfast was the best part of stay and the woman working the area made sure it was clean and professional looking. She was working hard. We rented 2 rooms and had no issues on second room. Overall, the hotel was not something I would go back too again.

User 09/10/2018

My husband and i booked a room here for the night thru expedia before leaving on our cruise. We didnt need anything luxurious, just a bed and a shower. We got black mold, the smell of cat urine and chemicals and a bonus toe nail clipping for good measure in our first room. Diamond, the super helpful night desk clerk, did not even seem slightly shocked when we came down and asked if we could please have another room due to the problems in our room. She didn't even want to go up and see it for herself. She gave us a new room, which to our exhausted delight, had plaster damage along the bottom walls from water damage with bad patch jobs, stains on the curtains, and horrific stains all over the furniture. The only improvement is that there was no visible mold. Needless to say, we did not want to stay. Diamond gave a receipt that looked as though she had refunded the charge for the stay, sine we hadn't even been in the building a whole hour, but later we discovered that the charge went through on the credit card so we paid for a room we didnt even stay in

We enjoy having a good location with a microwave and refrigerator in the room. We do not want our room cleaned daily, and enjoy our privacy. This place has all of this. We left our pillows... yes, our special pillows that we cannot sleep without. They were found by Josh. I don't know who Josh is, but our pillows were sent to us by UPS. Thank You, Josh, for finding and reporting the pillows. Thank you, UPS for shipping them to us. Overall, it was a great stay.

Aloha247, Denton, Texas 24/09/2018

This Best Western had everything we needed in a beach hotel: located right across the street from the beach, outdoor pool, free breakfast and friendly employees. We paid a little extra for a balcony, so we had an ocean view, plus overlooked the pool. Our room had a frig, microwave, iron and ironing board, comfortable beds and clean bedding. Would definitely stay here again next time in Galveston.

"Best Western"

bradspaith, Palestine, Texas 31/07/2018

The staff was great. Very friendly and helpful. The hotel was not very clean. They had a few issues with the front doors, and an elevator. I didn't feel that the hotel reflected the cost of the stay. It is not the worst place to stay, but for the price you can find better.

"Too high for the quality"

3
Sharon M, Bryan, Texas 31/07/2018

A bit pricey for the overall quality of the hotel. The elevators and hallways are full of water from people that have been out in the pool. Parking garage only had one working elevator, which had no air flow - very hot and slow. Arrived in the room to find no towels. The phones were down, so could not call down to the desk - had to call from cell phone. There are better places to stay. This would be a last resort for me.

"Clean, basic hotel"

4
User 30/07/2018

We stayed 2 nights recently are were pleased. The hotel is a basic no-frills place to stay on Seawall Blvd. It is clean, however it's about time to freshen it up a bit. Our room and bathroom were clean and well stocked. Our balcony was small, but the view was great. The staff was friendly and efficient. The check in process was fast and easy. The pool is small, but with the beach across the street, it didn't matter to us. I would certainly stay there again. Keep in mind, if you're looking for a big fancy resort, this isn't your place. If you're looking for clean and affordable lodging on the beach - stay here.

"Rude Staff, uncomfortable beds, broken hot tub"

2
User 30/07/2018

Upon check in a front desk clerk by the name of Veronica or Victoria (I can't remember which) was extremely rude and callous. A new assistant manager, Christian, had given us the wrong total after taxes and when we explained to Veronica/Victoria that our trip was carefully budgeted and we had prepared to pay the total given to us by Christian, she told us we could pay the correct amount or leave! I was blown away! She was telling us to buzz off with a smile on her face. After requesting to speak to a manager she told us none were on property only to have another staff member return with Christian minutes later. Christian apologized and adjusted the rate to accommodate what we had planned to spend. He was kind in the situation and told us he would have a talk with the hateful front desk clerck. However the lobby smelled terrible, both beds in the king double room we rented were broken down and horribly uncomfortable, the hot tub was broken the entire weekend, and we were in room 229 above the laundry room which shook the entire room everytime washers went into spin cycle. Breakfast wasn't bad and other staff members were friendly but my family and I will never return to this hotel!

"Poor"

1
User 29/07/2018

Bad quality overall, don't recommend this hotel. They have several issues, breakfast, room, front door is broken had to walk to side door. No cold water in sink and it leaked. Dead roach in bathroom. Not a clean hotel.

"HORRIBLE !"

1
User 26/07/2018

This place was horrible!! I wouldn't even let my dog stay here. The hotel staff kept coming into our room, we complained multiple times and they kept saying it shows you checked out. I called down to front desk to complain Victoria said put your do not disturb sign out and it won't happen. I said it is on the door she hung up on me. The ac quite working at 11pm and we were told they couldn't find the maintence man, they left trash in front of our door. (We have pictures) the “ General Manager” was never there nor a manager period. Their front desk was rude and just put right nasty! Please stay away from this place.

"BURN THIS ONE DOWN AND START AGAIN"

1
User 20/07/2018

In town to visit family for 5 days. We reserved 2 rooms for us and our kids. Agree with a lot of other reviews. Entrance is on the side. No signage where to enter, had to ask a guest as they were leaving where do I walk in. And throughout our stay, as I was leaving, people would ask me the same thing: "How do I get in?" Our first room we 'walked' into, I say 'walked' but really I slipped on such oily floors that I nearly busted my a$$. Strange as the floors are un carpeted and a laminate-type flooring. I used a towel to remove some of the substance so as to not slip. During the week, I saw the cleaning staff using a swifter-type mop and asked them not to mop my floor for the duration. So we entered the room and were greeted by a musty/mildew odor. After being in the room about an hour we went down and asked for and got another room. This one had a balcony that had such a majestic view overlooking the driveway of the hotel next to us and their very large trash dumpster, complete with scavenger birds and seagulls looking for a meal. This rooms floor also had an oily sheen to it and lesson learned, I entered cautiously like I was Indiana Jones going through the Peruvian Temple trying not to set off booby-traps. Our daughters' room A/C stopped working effectively 2 days in and they spent the next of our 3 days trying to fix it to no avail. Eventually they had to be switched to another room. There were kids running down the halls late at night and yes that's the responsibility of their parents, but still it should be noted. The hallways had a musty smell. The elevators took forever and there are only 3 floors. We took the stairs a lot. There was no security at the parking level entrance. The breakfast was typical hotel fare. runny eggs, etc.. Coffee was fine. but they didn't have any lids for the cups! Obviously, this proved problematic for one guest as there was a large coffee spill by the elevator. The tub in our and our kids rooms looked like they needed to be really cleaned. Maybe use some of that floor oil in the tubs? We tried to print out our boarding passes the day before our flight. There was no ink in the printer. The lady at the front desk said she would print it for me. The quality of the printout she gave me would not have been usable at the airport. We were told that the printer is always like that and to go to the hotel next door and use theirs. (we did it at the airport.) On the positive, the beds were comfortable and plenty of pillows. the staff was mostly friendly and helpful. Overall, I was very disappointed on our stay. Especially at $200/per night. There was a Best Western PLUS 2 doors down, I could only hope that that hotel was infinitely better than the one we stayed at. This wasn't a Best Western, it didn't even meet the criteria of Worst Western. More like Horrible Western. Sad, as we travel a lot and stay frequently at BW throughout our travels.

"Amazing except one thing"

User 18/07/2018

I love how friendly and helpful almost ALL the workers were. I only had trouble with one. A short lady who worked the breakfast room. I had my 14 month old daughter on my hip and i was trying to throw away trash and it spilled all over the floor. That blonde hair lady made a huge deal over me spilling it. Hurt my feelings. Embrassed me. I tried to clean it up, i even put my little girl down to do.... Needless to say i stayed away from her the rest of the stay....

"Surprisingly Nice!"

User 17/07/2018

I've never stayed at a Best Western before. However, my family and I were in for quite a surprise. First of all, I LOVED the hardwood floors! As an allergy sufferer no carpet makes me excited! Everything was nice and clean and the pool with the beach view was a delightful treat. The only thing that was a negative was that the self-serve washers weren't working, which usually wouldn't be a problem, but my daughter had an accident before we arrived. Nevertheless, this will be my go-to hotel in the Galveston area! I'm thinking about planning a Labor Day getaway if Hurricane Season allows! Lol!

"Pleasantly surprised!!!!!"

Second stay at this hotel...greatly improved since our last stay. Very pleasant staff (very friendly and outgoing...very patient with my questions at check-in...seemed very knowledgeable about the area, and what to do and where to go in the area. The room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. Hotel was busy, but very quiet at night. Very good morning breakfast. Will stay here again!!!

"NOT worth the money"

Teri J, Kerrville, Texas 15/07/2018

1. The entrance was off to the side, by the pool, because the front was blocked off by plants. Really inconvenient since it was right next to the pool and the floor was wet and slippery. They had a fan running to keep the floor dry. Two employees were sitting on the front step smoking in front of the hotel. A real YUCK factor and unprofessional. 2. The bathroom vent didn't work, and there was mold and mildew on the ceiling and around the shower top. My husband has Stage 4 Small Cell Lung Cancer and breathing in mold in a hot shower doesn't really help matters. 3. Our mini fridge didn't work and wasn't cold. 4. Kids were running in the hallway at 10pm at night and again at 7am! Understand you can't always control your kids, but simple manners aren't hard to ask for. 5. The security doors didn't require a room key to come inside the hotel, and in the parking garage, there were some pretty shady people hanging out in their cars. We made sure to stay as a group of 3 at all times outside of the hotel. 6. The pool gates were broken and the pool didn't look clean or appealing. Maybe it didn't help that people that weren't staying at the hotel were using it?? We saw a family leave in their minivan from the pool (all wet and carrying their swim toys). 7. As I was checking out, 3 male employees were talking about some of the female guests they had encountered and it wasn't in a good way. Especially with kids coming to and from the breakfast room. But the bed was clean and firm, and our room was very cool. You are across the street from the beach and can see the beach from the side room windows. Wouldn't stay here again though.

"Not worth it"

shelleyjansky, Hallettsville, Texas 13/07/2018

We chose the Best Western bc it was a good deal...or so we thought. Check in is at 4pm. We arrived at 4:05pm. It just went downhill from there... 1. The check in: You had to walk in the side door bc the front entrance was closed. The lobby was hot as hell. At 4:10pm our room was not ready. The guy said to give it about 10 min. At 4:30 it still wasn't ready so he moved us into a 2 king rather than 2 queen room. (That was nice.) 2. The room: The floors were hardwood that were really pretty...until we put our child down to crawl. Within 5 min our child's legs were black as was our feet! Clearly the floors weren't mopped in a long time. (Disgusting). The tv remote didn't work so we told the front desk. A guy came to see what was wrong with it and try to fix it. He came 2 different times with about 4 other remotes and batteries and still couldn't fix it. You could see paint touch-ups all on the ceiling. Guess they were trying to cover water damage. The sheets looked ok until we went to sleep. I could feel dirt/crumbs on my feet. 3. The bathroom: Went to take a shower and looked up above the tub. There was mold on the walls! It was clear they tried to cover it up with paint but that didn't work. I was so disgusted. The towels appeared clean but still had hair in some of them. The floor was super slippery too. 4. Breakfast: The food in the morning was good. However, the second morning they were out of a lot of stuff that they had the morning before. The floor in the dining room was slippery too. I felt I was sliding across the floor as I walked. 5. The doors/gates: All of the doors to enter the building said they required a key for entry. However, this wasn't the case. You just had to open the door so anyone could come in. The gates at the pool were pointless. One was broken and off the hinge and the other one was not working. The one not working didn't have a sign saying to go around so you spent time trying to open it and got no where. 6. The staff: Even tho the room was dirty, the staff we encountered was all nice. We did noice one staff member outside in the same spot either smoking or on his phone on a few occasions. One night, at 9:22pm, someone was vacuuming the hallway! 7. Leaving: Easy check out. Upon leaving, I passed by the staircase and there was a turd sitting on the steps. Yes, a turd... We have never had a problem with any other best westerns so this was disappointing. I guess if you want a cheap, dirty place to sleep, this is the place for you. Guess you get what you pay for!

Clean and great place to stay. Was able to leave our car at the hotel while we were cruising. The staff was very helpful. The price for one night was reasonable. Breakfast area was clean and the food was good.

"Not Worth the Price."

User 07/07/2018

This hotel was totally not worth the price. So when we first got there, the nice thing is that there are hardwood floors, considering it's right by the beach, it's nice to not have carpet. One thing that I will say is that not one of the rooms has a beach view. You can get a corner view but the way the hotel is set up, none of the rooms have a clear view of the water. Next thing is, I wouldn't even give it three stars because it's not clean. The bathtub was gritty, even in the clean towels I found hair, and the sheets didn't seem so clean. The floor was also kinda slimy & like actual crumbs. After day one I took the sheets off of the bed just to make sure that they put new ones, and the mattress pad had serious stain. Someone also dropped a cigarette while cleaning our room, so we came back to a partially smoked cigarette on the floor, that was weird. I brought all of my concerns to the front desk after night one, and she told me to come talk to the manager after breakfast the next day. When I came to talk to the manager there was a staff person that I addressed my concerns to because the manager wasn't there & she assured me they would pass it along. I'm positive they didn't. (I figured instead of writing a bad review, I would address it while I was still there.) Pros: The breakfast is definitely worth it. They need a few more waffle machines as you can build up a line, but the food was good, fresh and hot, and there was quite a variety of food to eat. The air-conditioner did work & there is a small balcony. PS - It seems like everything is happening on Galveston East Seawall, because that's where pleasure pier is and a couple of the more upscale hotels.

I gave this two stars only because we had a good view. First when we checked in they had to move us from a king room to a two queen room due to overbooking. They told us they would not charge us extra for the first night if we wanted to stay for the second night as there then they would charge us $105. 6 doors to the building and only 2 were operation. So it was a guess every time. The first night right below us 2-3 individuals who worked for the hotel were smoking pot. I asked them to cut it out because it was flooding our room with a child. The next day I went to complain and the manager said that there's nothing he can do when they go on smoke breaks and told me to chill out.

"Beware filmy, slippery floors!"

May 27, 2018, No sooner had I rolled luggage into the room, I turned and slipped into what was either suntan lotion or bug spray. Rammed my face, head, arm and hip into to the closet wall as I slid down. I hobbled to the front desk and reported to the front clerk on duty, Diamond, what happened. She quickly came to the room and mopped the floor herself. An accident or poor cleaning? The floor in the breakfast room was so slick you could skate from the eggs over to the waffle machine. Now here's the rub; their idea of making the floors cleaner and safer was to put out "careful slick floors" cones along the hall floor. On the positive side, there is covered parking.

"Clean rooms must cost extra"

TexasTurtle, Omaha, Nebraska 28/06/2018

I paid $95 to stay in a hotel next to the seawall. Location is great if that is what you are looking for. There is a good restaurant within walking distance with great views (Jimmys on the Pier) I travel alot for work and pleasure, and have spent less money than this in motels in the US and hotels in Europe, that were kept up much betterThis room clearly had not been cleaned. I reported it to the first desk guy, who clearly hates his job. I left for dinner, and the room was still not cleaned when I returned hours later. There was hair in the tub and half used bottles of shampoo. Oddly, there were clean towels and the beds were nicely made, leading me to believe that housekeeping had entered the room. I think they need to supervise the Housekeeping staff, they are clearly not doing a good job. The floor has not been cleaned in months, bring socks! If you park in the under building area and use one of the elevators, you might think you are stuck in the area, but slam your body against the door and it will open. The phone in the room doesn't work at all, so you must travel across the hotel to request anything. It is disappointing b/c there are so many choices along the seawall, you would think this hotel would want to be more competitive.

"Good, clean place to stay before our cruise"

4
JamesfromTucson, Tucson, Arizona 26/06/2018

We stayed just one night as we were leaving on a cruise the next day. This place was clean and totally sufficient for what we needed. It was a little far away from any restaurants, etc. so that was a little bit inconvenient since we did not have a car to go get any food, etc.

"Pretty but needs updating more"

3
User 18/06/2018

View was nice. You can tell they are updating things but they need to redo not just paint over. The ac does not work on the first floor in the Hall ways nor in the breakfast area. Try eating breakfast and it's 90 degrees yea not fun! It's just ok!

User 17/06/2018

The front desk lady that checked us in (kelly) was very nice and she let us check in early. The location is good and so was the price. However, when we checked into the room it wasn't very clean. It appeared all they did was make the beds. The Floor wasn't swept, hairs were in the bathtub, and there wasn't any Kleenex. The fan in the bathroom didn't work either. However, I noticed when the maids would come in daily and clean, everything was nice and fresh( I'm sure tipping had something to do with that). Another inconsistency I noticed was the staff. Kelly was great, but others had attitudes and you could just tell they hated their job. Pool towels were never stocked either so you were forced to track water into the lobby and then wait so u could ask for a towel. Another issue I had was with breakfast. There were a lot of guests and not enough staff to restock or clean the tables. Everyday I waited for something; coffee, eggs, milk, etc. For a Best Western I was really surprised by how this place is run.

"Good stay"

ktharg, Calgary, AB 13/06/2018

Located on the quieter part of the beach we had a good stay here. Balcony was nice to watch the sun set and the hot breakfast was good. Rooms are clean, ours was laminate hardwood floor, and the beds were comfy. Boardwalk is right across the road and the beach is not bad this far down. Safe area so you can walk around the beach at night.

"Clean room, Nice Location, Great Stay"

4
Shannon E, Galveston, United States 12/06/2018

ROOM: Let me start out by saying that the room does not have carpet. Do you know how much cleaner that is??? LOVE it! The room/bathroom were clean, spacious, and in good shape. Everything was in working order- including Wi-fi. LOCATION: It's located on the West side of the Galveston Sea Wall, which is a much quieter part of the beach. It's still close to all the action, but beach and parking is less crowded. STAFF: The staff member at check-in was very friendly. She even gave us a little "Happy Anniversary" bag with bottled water and snacks and let us pick our room level. The only negative I can think of is the pool is very small. We were pleased with this hotel and will stay here again and would recommend to others.

"Day off"

1
Diana H, Brenham 01/06/2018

This was the view from the supposed oceanfront balcony room I paid extra for. They put us at the very back of the building and all we had views of was the back of another hotel. When I called the front desk, he didn't seem to be bothered with it. We won't recommend this motel to any of our business colleagues.

"Housekeeping thieves"

2
User 27/05/2018

I stayed overnight and accidentally forgot my phone charger. It's 6' long so I'm sure whichever room cleaner who found it was well pleased with their score. Here's the deal, thief. I didn't leave it as a tip. It's mine, whether your ethics are skewed or not. When I called the front desk the next morning, when I discovered I'd forgotten it, I was told the message would be passed to housekeeping and they would call me if they found it. Surprise surprise, no one called me back. I just called again, almost a week later, and was told no one had found anything. Mmm hmm, because one of the housekeepers procured it for themselves. I plan to write a note to the GM of the hotel, but I sincerely doubt anything will be done to rectify this petty thievery. There are plenty of hotels on the seawall. I'll choose another one next time I'm down.

We stayed 1 night before taking a cruise . The hotel lobby's smell immediately hit me and flared up all kinds of allergies symptoms, it smelled like a musty basement . I asked the hotel ‘customer check in person about it and she said “ because we are by the water” . No that wasn't it ! Stayed at countless beach resorts , cruises , beach houses etc! Exhausted after a long day & hungry we just dealt with it and we went to our room - which smelled musty as well . Went to dinner at the Pier - excellent by the way and then to bed . The next morning the a/c leaked all over the floor and on my husbands suitcase ! Thank goodness it was a hard shell suitcase otherwise his clothes would have been soaked ! When we checked out the morning hotel crew was unfazed about the leak when we told her , nor did she ask how can she/ hotel help etc. We where Very disappointed in our stay at this Best Western and highly recommend to stay else where !

"No beach in front of hotel, only water"

3
texaspartyofsix, Dallas, Texas 22/05/2018

We picked this room because it had three beds, no sofa bed. We were given a room on the end which had a balcony over looking the gulf. You can tell they have done a lot of remodeling but they also cut a lot of corners not doing the remodeling neatly. There was paint on the floors, holes in the ceiling, mismatched corners, etc. I think this hotel might have been a Ramada before. It is close to another Best Western Plus that has balconies all along the front. There is a Holiday Inn between the two Best Westerns. There is no cross walk close by to get to the beach. Also there is no beach across the street. Yes, you can see the gulf. The water runs right up to the sea wall so no beach is there except maybe low tide (I don't really understand tides, but day time is no beach). There isn't a sidewalk on the hotel side of the street to walk down to get to a better part of the beach or a crosswalk. You have to walk right by the driveways of the hotels or just cross the street in front of hotel. If you have little kids I would recommend driving down the road for beach access. That is what we did. We were hoping to avoid that and the sand in my car. The hotel staff was very nice. I did have to request towels. And we left for a long when and our room was still not cleaned when we came back around 3pm. In a room with 3 beds sleeping 6 they leave 3 towels and 1 tiny bottle of 2 in 1 shampoo. I wish there had been a towel for each person without me having to go ask for them. I also wish there were paper plates, forks, dish towel etc to use in this room. It has a microwave, refrigerator, sink area. The good: friendly staff, comfortable beds, clean smelling hallways, and plenty of parking. The not so good: repairs not neat, not enough towels, smell of mold in outside walls (my daughter has asthma), no cross walk, no sidewalk, no beach, and one very large roach met me between the bed and bathroom. Would I stay here again? Maybe yes. Do I think $288 a night is reasonable for what it offers? No. I was hoping for more for that price. There are newer hotels at a lower price offering the same just lacking beach access which this one lacks too. It is an okay hotel and for that should have an okay price. The breakfast was fine, a little crowded on weekends though. Overall I would give this one another chance if the price was right. I don't think the price justifies for the things lacking. But it has been refurbished if you are looking for that, they just left holes in the ceiling on every sprinkler outlet, patchwork of ceiling was patched and not textured, no beach access, etc. But overall not a bad hotel and very friendly staff.

My husband and I took a quick trip to Galveston for mother's day weekend. While this hotel shows the wear and tear it's received over the years, the facility is clean, staff is friendly, and breakfast is decent. 50 bucks was a steal for right on the Seawall. We will stay here again for future trips.

Rooms are hugh, clean, and well decorated. Stayed on 3rd floor. Beautiful view of the ocean. Clean and well stocked. Breakfast was great with hot foods like scrambled eggs, sausage and waffles. Even had boiled eggs, yogurt machine, and apples wrapped with saran wrap (loved it). Every staff member was awesome. Paul, the security guard, went above and beyond. My husband is handicapped and he took three trips to unload us and get us settled in our room. Thank you again Paul!! Stress free stay.

Kyle H, Moore, Oklahoma 01/05/2018

Our family of four stayed here for one night before departing on a cruise. We were greeted warmly by the reception staff upon arriving. We were checked in promptly and courteously. Our room was nice and had been cleaned well by house keeping. If you look closely you will see they have tried to spruce up this older property with modern decor. Everything worked the way it was supposed to despite seeing signs of age in places. Breakfast was really good, it was on par for what you'd expect at this price point/property. As far as locations go, it's kind of a mixed bag for us. This property is a bit farther down from the island's activities and the cruise port. That said, it is right on Sea Wall Blvd, and there is a pier within walking distance. (the pier costs $) We were quite content and would not hesitate to stay here again.

The spacious room was great for being able to work on the couch or desk while my partner was watching sports. The bed was very comfortable with the extra pillow requested for the two of us to sleep. The wifi was strong enough for working and streaming music. The shower was easy to use. I would only have liked the front desk to have been a little more friendly.

"Great place to stay"

jrdnjstn, Austin,TX 09/04/2018

I've stayed at this location before and the main reason why is because of value. My room was clean and nice with a balcony and Gulf view. Breakfast was nice with eggs, sausage, cereal, hard boiled eggs, variety of pastries, biscuits (could've been kept in a warmer), waffles, a variety of juices and coffee. I made my reservations online and wasn't happy when the price for a Friday night stay was higher then what I thought I was going to pay when I made the reservation online. I also want happy that the price almost went up 100% from Thursday to Friday but what can you do?

We just stayed at this location for the weekend. I found this establishment was clean and nicely decored, We had no problems with checking in or out, The room was fab! It was clean, spacious and we have a balcony ocean view. We could walk across the street and be on the beach. This hotel is on the west side of the city, so you don't have a lot of congestion and noise. I loved my stay and would stay here again.

The hotel welcomed us ...friendly when we got there. We stayed 3 nights....so plenty of time to give a round review. Basically it's a Motel 6. A little new paint and a air freshener blowing around the hotel... Towels were limited. Beds...probably the worst hotel bed I've stayed in in years...very uncomfortable. I booked online through booking.com and didn't realize that just starting this year...I didn't get points for staying THREE nights. Ugh :( Checked out on Sunday...hotel was basically empty...we asked for a late check out...just to enjoy an extra hour on the beach...the lady who so SWEETly welcomed us upon arrival...wasn't so nice anymore :(. The other person there said no problem...take your time. We came back to hotel...rushed and got packed up...I get a call from the sweet/welcoming lady at 1:04 and says...you aren't out yet :( Shocked. I just spent 3 nights ..$600 and maids are still cleaning in our hall ... I could say more but won't. I've stayed in lots of hotels there in Galveston..never that treatment. We were low key...never asked for one extra anything the whole stay. Oh well...I'll keep going to the other great places in Galveston :).

Great view and location . Decor is nice. Breakfast room is decent size but needs improvement on food available like fresh fruit and keeping up with refilling items so guests have a choice. Housekeeping needs to be trained to clean a room, not have your feet black within a minute of removing your shoes. Staff could tell you about the credit card hold for incidentals and recognize your reward status and just be friendly overall.

We drove into Galveston with no reservations on spring break. Everywhere we stopped had no vacancy. We finally found one room left here and we snagged it for three days. The hotel is overall decent. The room was clean and the staff was very nice. The breakfast was a very nice spread with something for everyone. The hot tub was unfortunately not functioning, and the nights were chilly so it would have been nice, but they said we could use the one at the hotel next door. We chose not to do that but it was nice to be offered the option.

Booked a room here for Saturday night, Feb 10th to go to Mardi Gras. Had a bit of attitude with Kim when I tried to check in the first time with. I informed her that I had a broken leg and wanted to know if I could check in early. She gave me a business card with their phone number and said, it's too early check back around 2:30pm and I will see what I can do. As I had to pass by the hotel around 3pm I stopped back by and she told me they haven't "released any rooms". I said oh, ok and she said, "besides check in isn't til 4pm. She went from nice to nasty at that point. I checked in at 4:15pm with Nathan and he was so pleasant. He fell all over himself apologizing for the delay. Seen me struggling with my things and asked if he could help. I am glad Nathan took over for Kim because he changed my stay into a more positive experience. The rooms were clean, 4 pillows on the bed which I love, beds were queen or king and there were 2 of them. Microwave and fridge in room, as was in room coffee, and tea. Also, they have the "clean remote" system which I love. Plenty of towels, and spacious room and bathroom, also a desk/work space area with separate sitting area and extra table. 2 biggest problem, 1st problem I was in room 130 which is directly across from the elevator...that thing dings and bings all night with folks coming and going. There is no carpet anywhere so this was extremely loud with rolling luggage clicking down the tile hallways all night as well. 2nd problem, as there is no carpet we heard lots of "noises" from above us and beside us. You know the noise that you don't want to hear... Anyway, the breakfast was excellent as far as hot breakfast is concerned, for help yourself food, and the staff did a great job of refilling hot, fresh food constantly. Free parking and decent free wi-fi. On the fence if I come back or not. Nathan did make up for some front desk short comings so perhaps.

"Blood on Sheets"

1
User 01/02/2018

When staying here I checked in, ran some errands on the island, had dinner and arrived to my room late, only to discover blood on my sheets! Called down to front desk and they claim they didn't have any additional sheets! Why not move my room? He was rude! Unapologetic and told me it wasn't his fault

I booked this place last minute through Trivago and got a reasonable rate. The two biggest issues I had with the place was the stench in the hallway by the storage closet and the fact there was no remote in my room. The front desk made a comment that they need to put my credit card on file in case I decide to walk off with the TV (not a good joke) and come to find out the darn TV didn't even work. I went back to the fromt desk to ask for a remote and neither the LG nor the Universal remote would turn the darn thing on. Bummer!

"Good pre-cruise stay."

User 22/01/2018

We chose this hotel because of its proximity to the beach and sea wall, its reasonable cruise parking and shuttle, and its reasonable rates. The rooms were clean and comfortable, but showing some wear. We had a couple of issues with hot water and phone service, but it was also in an ice storm and 28 degrees. The manager was very nice about it and even comped us our parking. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was ample and good. The shuttle service was great. Would stay here again.

"OK but Pricey"

3
CajunIrish, Houston, Texas 01/01/2018

Nice enough but not quite worth the price. Could not log onto internet. Had one cleanliness issue, vent in bathroom ceiling partially blocked by a wadded up tissue. Breakfast was OK, nothing special, usual hotel hot breakfast fare with frozen, re-heated institutional items. Across Seawall Blvd from West Beach, close to the Gulf but not in a major tourist area so fairly quiet. Bed was a little too firm. Next trip will probably look for a different location.

Convenient location with beach view. Hot breakfast with fruits, scrambled eggs, no sausage. Clean updated room. Free parking in garage under the hotel. Friendly staff. 1.5 miles from Moody Garden. Can walk to the beach across the street.

I didn't enjoy the stay. The beds were hard and squicky. The first elevator was broken and when we got to the second one under the hotel the door was open and my card didn't work. The elevator shook the entire time up to the second floor. Getting on the second floor smelt like mold.

"Good place to stay"

Carol873, Shortsville, New York 16/11/2017

This was a good place to stay, and fairly close to different attractions. There was a good variety of breakfast items. The room was quiet, and beds were comfortable. Since the motel is across the street from the gulf, it was possible to walk across the street to the water, instead of having to pay for parking.

"Terrible night but beautiful view"

1
karlynb12, Galveston, Texas 09/11/2017

First of all, I booked this room for the view and it didn't disappoint. However, two HUGE flood lights right in from of our room totally obliterated that for night time viewing. Then there was very loud walking (I.e. stomping) on the floor above during the night. Then an unexplained loud tapping noise at intervals all during the night that at one time sounded like gun fire. It wasn't, of course, but being jolted out a sound sleep, it was my first thought. Then seven in the morning the fire alarm goes off in our room! No fire. Called front desk and they chuckled and said yes there have been several going off in different rooms. Not funny AT ALL. Mattress was lumpy, pillows flat, and whatever they washed the linens in caused my face and legs to burn. Not much sleep at all

Dade V, General Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
Sorry for the issues you stated please know we have corrected the alarm as we can not control what a guest does to set off the alarm until it goes off. We continually check with laundry suppliers to advise them of any concern such as yours for improvement.

This was a great Hotel with a Great view. The Staff was exceptional. Problems that any Hotel Effected by Hurricane Harvey would have, were handled Professionally and made us extremely happy. Breakfast was Awesome with hot food. Staff at breakfast made us feel like we were eating at an upscale restaurant.

"Dirty Room with a Rundown View"

2
txaquaguy, 77379 29/10/2017

Our room was dirty - stains on box springs, on cabinets, hand prints on bed backboards, toothpaste on door in bathroom, dirty towels, and large wood screws protruding from furniture. The "Gulf View" was that of a run down lot with a house that some hurricane almost took out. and a dirty overgrown alley. Elevators to the parking lot didn't work most of the time. When they did, they landed with a loud thud. Rode elevator with one staff member coming to work who smelled strongly of marijuana. Most of the cleaning staff just roamed the halls like zombies throughout the day or spent time talking to each other instead of cleaning. Breakfast was terrible - half frozen biscuits with a "gravy" that was mostly water with a strange chemical taste.

Dade V, Manager at Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel, responded to this review
I am very sorry for your experience at our hotel we are continuing to make sure every guest enjoys their stay with us. The hotel staff works hard everyday to move forward.

"dirty, smelly, buggy, spartan cold breakfast"

1
Dale H, Houston,TX, United States 10/10/2017

I reserved 2 rooms for a girls trip to Galveston. Room 343 smelled musty when we opened the door and the bathroom smelled like cigarette smoke. We opened the patio door and left it open for hours! We later found a dirty used washcloth hanging on the shower curtain rod and there was no soap in the bathroom. When I wiped up a water spot on the dark tile floor, the towel was dark with dirt. My friend in room 346 found a live roach in the bathroom the next morning. The motel was full because of FEMA people with vouchers that had been there for a month. Children were screaming and running the halls in the morning. the breakfast was cold and spartan, and the worst I've had anywhere. Even the coffee was bad.I told the desk clerk about our stay and there was no apology given. We will never return, and would have left or changed locations or rooms except for 100% occupancy due to the hurricane last month. Thank goodness it was only for one night. P.S. the bed was comfortable.

"Great location!"

Nancy L, Tulsa, Oklahoma 20/09/2017

The hotel is literally right across the street from the beach and we had a wonderful view from the balcony of our room. The room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. Having breakfast included was a nice bonus. We chose the buffet, which was sumptuous! There are also several restaurants within walking distance. Our only complaint was that their website states that cruise parking and shuttle to and from the cruise terminal is a free amenity. However, for people that are not taking advantage of the cruise parking and shuttle, their hotel rate is over $100 less than those that do, so I do not see how that is considered a "free" amenity.

How wonderful to be offered your choices of comfort before being assigned a room. The front desk host was perfect. Quick, sweet and pro. The breakfast area is very clean and stocked. Fresh towels whenever I needed. Whoever did the recent paint renovations has done a really good job; as it is hard to paint an old hotel. It looks really good in there. Snacks downstairs, vending drinks on each floor and always ice when I needed it as well. Great stay.

"Pleasantly Surprised"

5
Starzangl9, Fort Worth, Texas 24/08/2017

I had read some reviews on this location that were not particularly good but decided to give it a chance anyway. The hotel sits directly across the street from the sea wall, a very convenient location. I was pleasantly surprised with this hotel. Kimberly made our check in go so smoothly, she was very friendly and efficient. The room was spacious and comfortable and had everything we needed. The room had been cleaned well and there were no unpleasant surprises. The beds were comfy and had ample pillows. If I was disappointed about anything it would have been that Breakfast really didn't have any good protein choices (eggs, bacon, sausage), everything was carbs. Being diabetic, that made a difference for me but that being said, there were many choices for breakfast. They had an automated pancake maker that made pancakes in one minute, all you did was push a button! They had the cook your own Texas shaped waffles, breakfast rolls, vanilla yogurt with flavorings and toppings, bread to make toast and biscuits with sausage gravy. There was also juices and coffee, 1% and 2% milk from a milk dispenser not a carafe that does not serve the milk ice cold. There were hard boiled eggs, but they were in a refrigerated unit. Also some fruit, mainly apples. Breakfast is served from 6-9 AM and there was an attendant that kept everything well stocked and clean. We had a pleasant stay and we will use this hotel again. Thanks to Kimberly who made check in and check out a pleasant experience.

Checking alone hotels in Galveston since I am retired to go with my wife. We like going to Galveston and the beach during the week. Hotel is Ok but the deal breaker are the vinyl faked wood floors in the rooms. They look dirty and feel sticky and dirty. This is a deal breaker. Will try others and will let you know.

The rooms were nice and big. The beds are comfortable. The location is nice. Most of the staff is friendly. Our A/C unit was set at 60, but the room never really felt cool enough. It was not warm per say, but could have been cooler. The hot tub was like a hot bathtub with not that great of jets and no Bubbles. The pool was adequate. Breakfast ends at 9:00 AM. For vacationers, that seems a bit early to me.

Clean rooms and pool area. Refreshing balcony to see ocean across the street. One request is to extend free breakfast to at least 10:00 am so my vacationing grandkids do not have to get up early when I'm allowing them to stay up a little later because (for them) that is part of the fun getting away (we had to miss that which could be a future deterrent). I felt SAFE which is very important to this Grandma! Having internet a must for today's grandkids so a Thank you for that too. Great stay, thank you :-)

The hotel was very nice. It was located in a very good location which was right across the street from the beach with free breakfast. The room was huge, very roomy and spacious. The customer service at the front desk was great. The only problem to our stay was that on our last night the pool and spa which was somewhat small (outdoors) was crowded. Overall, I would recommend this location to friends and family.

Uya2016, Houston, Texas 30/07/2017

We had to wait for half and hour to check in ... Hotel is dirty overall, room, halls , pool everywhere you look there is some kind of trash laying around . Rooms are big but who cares if your sheets haven't been washed ? Hair all over and no towels. We had to be on a "Waiting list for towels " and they never came so we had to run to the store and buy our own towels! Come on ! Thank goodness we were there less then 24 hours .. can't imagine spending my vacation here . If I was Best Western I wouldn't license this location .

I am very sorry you had an issue at the hotel and had to wait to check in. Our normal check in time is 4 pm and check out is 11 am. We all work hard to make sure our guest are happy during their stay. If you want to actually have time on your vacation to not sit in a lobby with 20 other people waiting for an hour to get into your room don't stay here. They said it was the cleaning staff, I say it was bad organization and bad communication. Check in was at 4pm, we weren't in a room until 507p and we had to keep asking what was going on. Not ok.

We stayed on the second floor of the hotel our room had an excellent smell and was very clean...... the hotel haves a great staff and a nice housekeepers miss sofia and a youg man called george they cleaned my room very good and they give me new towels. I recommend this hotel to the people that wants to stay in Galveston island...... very cheap, comfortable and a great staff...

"DO NOT STAY HERE"

1
User 26/07/2017

We showed up to the hotel at 4pm which was check-in time. There was a very long line and a lot of upset guests. When we finally got up to the counter we were told our room wasn't cleaned but would be ready in an hour. We came back an hour later and our room still wasn't ready. We asked to switch to a different room then. They told us there was no clean rooms and to come back later. We went back a 3rd time around 8pm. Our room STILL wasn't ready. The only room available was the family suite. We did not need this big of a room since it was just my husband and I. We took the room just to get into a room. When we went to turn on our tv it didn t work. The cable had been cut. I went to go call them to inform them and to my dismay the phone didn t work either. We just want to go to bed at this point. We found black [email protected] hairs in the master bed(We are both blonde). The other 2 beds have sans in them. I go downstairs and am given a set of sheets and told I can make my own bed. Finally get to sleep and we hear our door slam against the deadbolt at 3am. They booked someone in the room we were sleeping in!! In the morning I go to take a shower only to find a used bar of soap and sand in the tub. After I complained I was told we could have the room until 5. At 1130 housekeeping came into our room and told us to leave. We told them we were given late check out. A few minutes later a man came up to our room and told us we had 15 minutes to vacate the room or we would be charged a 2nd night. We were told the property manager would call me in my cell when he came in later that day to discuss our experience. That was yesterday. Still waiting for a call.....

Check in was a breeze for a busy Saturday. I actually used my points for friends to stay and they really liked the rooms. They have never stayed there before and they will most likely stay again for a quick trip to the island.

Went to visit our kids and grandson for an overnight stay. Upon check in, parked beneath garage as instructed and could not access any of the 4 doors to get into the hotel and had to go all the way back to lobby. Got to our room which was at the other end of the hotel and keys would not work ..this was very frustrating. Hotel in general is out dated and did not feel clean. Room was clean but strong odor of musty and cleaning supplies. Spend day at pool, it was clean but hot tub was not clean with hair and other particles floating around. Beds were comfy and room was cold. Breakfast the next morning was a disappointment. Just toast, gravy and waffles at 8:30 a.m. was available. Elevators were terribly slow and jumped when they stopped. Saw that they had not been inspected in over a year. We have stayed in many Best Westerns as we are Platinum members and this was definitely not the best one we have stayed in. Great location right on the seawall so if some updating and probably better management overseeing things that need to be done would make it a better place to stay. Especially for the rates that are being charged.

Rooms are a good size, recently renovated but quality of workmanship not the greatest. Was never able to connect to the internet but guess more my device than their internet - management tried to get me connected. Breakfast not up to Bestwestern standards. Had requested a balcony but was assigned a room on the 1st floor with no balcony. Good location and quiet area. A couple of restaurants, convenience store, souvenir shop, movie theater and miniature golf all within walking distance. Appreciate their Military Discount, hope they keep honoring those that are serving and those that have retired from the Armed Forces!

I was nervous about staying here due to the reviews. When we arrived, Marissa was working up front & she was super friendly! She wanted to make sure we got a room with a beach view & asked if we minded waiting until 2 to check in since it was around 12 so we decided to grab some lunch & go to the beach. She offered us the pool also. She called to let us know our room was ready & it had a awesome view! Breakfast was alright- biscuits, gravy, cereals, pastries, pancakes & waffles. No eggs or meat which we did not like because we try to eat a good breakfast full of protein. The yogurt machine was empty. The room was clean & updated. The pool area is nice an clean with with a nice hot tub. Lots of parking.

Our stay was ok. We had a decent view of the ocean from our balcony, but the actual sandy beach is about a mile down the strip. The breakfast was not impressive at all- breads, cereal, apples, yogurt and coffee. Our floor hall had a smell to it- nothing bad enough to make me not stay but noticeable. I will try a hotel closer to the sandy beach next time. This location is idea for the fishers

We were booked at this hotel July 8 for one night. We had six adults and two kids under age 12. I cannot warn you enough about this hotel. DO NOT TRUST YOUR VACATION with this hotel or Dade Vincent. I originally booked the La Copa hotel back in December 2016. At that time we had 4 people and I got a rate of $124. In April my mom and other family members wanted to go so I contacted the La Copa only to find out that they'd been sold to Best Western and there was no record of any reservation and the current rate was almost $300 a night. I spoke with a manager of some kind. I think her name was Kimberly. She was on the phone with me and walked me through the booking process. I needed room for seven now and she recommended the one king two queen double room suite that would sleep 8 and my two kids would be free. She told me what to click and to put in MILT for the rate so I could get a better rate than $300 a night since no one ever verified the govt. rate eligibility. The rate for the suite was $150 a night. I thought I did the reservation correctly but as soon as I got the confirmation, I saw I'd booked the suite but I forgot to take away the original room I booked so I now had the suite and a double queen room booked that I didn't need because the suite slept 8. I called back and the manager person I spoke to before, again can't be sure of her name, said she cancelled the extra room and we should be set with the family suite for 8. Great. However it was not great. I called back to check on one thing and again there was no record of my reservation. The manager person that had walked me through the booking process and canceled the unneeded room had instead canceled the entire reservation leaving my family of 8 once again without a hotel for the one night and rates were still around $300. I then reached Dade Vincent, the hotel manager. The female manager I spoke to talked to him and I explained everything that happened and he personally made the reservation for me for the family suite for 8. The room details sent to me in the e mail confirmation were this: Room Details: 1 King 2 Queen Beds, Non-Smoking, Family Room, Kitchenette, Sofabed, Full Breakfast Again, great. Two people in the king bed. Two people in each queen bed and my two kids on the sofa bed. Perfect. However, it was not perfect because when I was looking to print out the confirmation I realized Dade never sent me one. I called him yet again and he had no recollection of ever speaking to me. I had to go through the whole explanation again. He had NEVER made the reservation when I spoke to him the first time and I had to start over again begging for the $150 rate he quoted me before which he had no recollection of. He reinstated the reservation and I printed it. We arrived at the hotel at 3:50 PM on July 8. There was a line of 3 people ahead of us. Check in time is 4 PM but other parties were being checked in. When I got to Charles, I believe was his name, he said the room wasn't ready and he couldn't check us in until the room was released. It was 4:10 at that time and he said I should check back at 4:30 PM. We waited in the lobby area. At 4:30 the room was not ready. At 4:45 the room was not ready. At 5 PM the room was not ready. At 5:15 the room was not ready and we were running out of patience. We then went to Bryce at the counter and he said we could check in. Bryce got us checked in and even though I was clearly miffed, he was patient and kind and he defused the level of frustration I felt. I did ask to see Dade, the manager, but he was not on the property. We finally got all 8 of us up to the 3rd floor room, room 328, only to find out that it has a king bed and two queens and no sofa bed. My husband went down and spoke to Dade, who had finally returned, and Dade said he never told me the room held 8 and I was wrong. He said the room holds 6 people. There are no rollaways or any other rooms available so now I have six adults and two kids in a room that sleeps 6 people. As noted before, the room description states that there is a sofabed. I was done dealing with Best Western and Dade and I made a last minute reservation at the Days Inn behind the Best Western at a cost of $205. Now I've got two rooms for a total cost of $392 for a reservation started six months earlier. My family of four stayed at the Days Inn however the Best Western room was registered to me and I spent time there which is why I feel I can review this hotel. We did walk over from the Days Inn and have the free breakfast as well. We also parked our car at the Best Western because it was covered and the Days Inn parking was not covered. I would strongly suggest you not stay at this hotel. You cannot depend on them for standing by anything they say. Dade never reached out to speak with me about the situation. I did ask another desk person for contact information for the hotel owner and they refused to give it to me. I'll follow up with corporate Best Western to let them know how their brand is being represented. I'm sure I'm just one person not happy and they have many other happy guests so my opinion doesn't matter but I will let it be known.

I stayed here with a friend for a couple of nights while we fished in West Bay off of Galveston Island. The property has a nice location just across Seawall Blvd from West Beach. From what I can tell, it is one of four commonly owned motor inns located contiguous to each other, and managed by the same manager - Dade Vincent. We arrived late, and were checked in quickly and efficiently by the night desk clerk. Our room number was 214. This was the last good experience of the trip. The room was nicely apportioned, with vinyl plank floors, and a frig and microwave located in the room. There is parking underneath the hotel ,and it is served by the elevator. We had a boat, and parked in an adjacent area which the staff referred to as "cruise parking". Breakfast is furnished. There were waffles (you prepare), coffee, juice, hard biscuits and gravy, some cereal, yogurt, and either muffins or rolls. Both my friend and I talked about the fact that this was the first hot breakfast where there were NO eggs or breakfast meat furnished. What they had was decent, but it fell way short of what I would have expected from other stays. Since we had it two days, we had to figure this was the norm. Not at all impressed. During our stay, we never had any maid service / towel replacement / cleaning. When we returned from fishing to find our room as we left it, we asked that it be serviced while we were at dinner. No luck. When we asked the desk clerk, he said "they have been pretty busy today". REALLY? Both times I took a shower, my feet were so filthy from the floors in the room that I left tracks in the bathtub. This makes me believe that the floors are not cleaned well when the maids actually do make it to your room. We were given new towels, but had to go down to the front desk ourselves to retrieve them. We were assured by the night desk clerk that the manager would "get us taken care of" in the morning. The night clerk was as helpful as he could be, but he had virtually no one else to help him. When we went to check out, we were told that the manager had not yet made it into the property (well after 8:00 AM). When we requested his cell number so we could contact him, the staff refused to give it out. So we left our cell number for him to contact us. SURPRISE - no call ever returned. Mr. Dade Vincent is VERY unprofessional, and it would seem that he either has too many responsibilities with the multiple properties or is not taking care of business. I had prepaid the reservation through Priceline, and received what I considered a fair price. To make matters worse, when I returned to work on Monday, I discovered that Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel had charged my credit card for the stay a second time. I made two phone calls, speaking to Kimberly one day, and with Dawn the next. Kimberly promised to research the situation and call me back within 30 minutes. Dawn offered no help, saying that only Mr. Vincent could have the charge removed from my card. He was magically in a meeting until late afternoon, and so again I left my number for a return call. You guessed it - no call from Mr. Vincent! Does he really exist, or is he more like Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny? I called Priceline for assistance, and they told me they would have to speak with Mr. Vincent before they could refund my charges, but promised to call back after attempting to communicate with the phantom, Mr. Vincent. They did call back, and agreed to refund my charges because the property personnel were UNCOOPERATIVE. So, there is a second opinion if you needed one. My money was refunded by Priceline, and the hotel personnel never did anything to correct their error. I think it was easier for the Best Western Galveston West Beach Hotel to process in the manner they did. VERY POOR BUSINESS PRACTICES! Recap: Good price, nice location, terrible service, deceptive trade policies, not clean rooms, and substandard breakfast. If you actually see the manager, give him my regards. He definitely needs to find a career where customer service is not a requirement. Sometimes, it is better to spend a little more to avoid this type of experience.

I used Priceline's, "express deals' to find a last minute hotel for a few days during the week. If you've done this then you know that you don't find out WHICH hotel you get until after you pay. Although I typically don't use this selection on anything less than a 3 star, I decided since it was a 2.5 at half the price that I'd take the risk. I was a bit nervous initially after reading the mixed reviews. However, most of the negative ones were from the rooms near the back. Upon check-in I simply asked if it was possible for me to have a room near the front with a view. That's exactly what I received. The room was clean, updated, and I had no complaints at all and I'm fairly picky . I don't even unload my suitcase until after I've taken a peek at my room. In fact, they were quiet accommodating. I added a 3rd night and received a late check out. Although it rained sporadically throughout our stay, I had a balcony with a view of the ocean, the sounds of seagulls, and a comfortable bed to rest. The staff was extremely helpful and I'd stay here again.

It was an ok experience, but not worth the price. Beach front hotels charge twice as much as they are worth. If you are traveling for the first time, you may get a better value staying inland and driving to the beach 15-20 minutes away. Just be prepared to pay for parking.

"Overpriced with rude employees that don't clean rooms"

1
User 05/07/2017

With try exception of a few people that worked the front desk and breakfast, most of the people that work there seem to hate their job. They are hostile and stand in the hallways unmoving when a guest walks by and do not care that they are in the way. They didn't seem to care that the place was a mess. I complained to the front about my room not being cleaned multiple times and was told they were super busy and would make sure to get to it that day and it never did. Friends staying on another floor did not have a problem with their room being cleaned, so I guess it was a first floor problem. I would never pay the price I paid to stay at this place again.

Took the family here for a couple of nights in the beginning of the week. It was very affordable for Galveston and well situated, right on the sea wall and near a lot of attractions. The room was very nice and clean. We had an excellent view off our balcony as well. You can tell is an older hotel but was very clean so didn't really bother us. The pool was clean and plenty of chairs and towels. We loved the hot tub after a long day at the beach. No issues parking either. Recommend for a family get away, we will definitely be back!

Check in was fast. The lady who checked me in did not have a name badge. She was not friendly. She was drinking a red Gatorade bottle at the front desk. Rooms were nice and clean. I was disappointed that I didn't have the view of the beach. I expected better but you get what you pay for.

Horrible customer srvice. Reserved a room then was told we didn't have a room and had to drive back to the other hotel and waste our time and gas to be told we did have a room to drive back and finally the lady checked our reservation and gave us an occupied room then came back to give us a dirty room. "Cancelled reservation w/o notice"

I booked a reservation through hotels.com in February for a stay in July. Three weeks prior, I called to confirm and was told there was no record of my reservation. No notice was sent to inform me of this cancellation. Apparently, the management has changed hands. After two days of back and forth, I was told that management would not honor my reservation and would do nothing to accommodate. Now tasked with finding a last minute room and paying triple the price. Beware of very poor customer service. My sister and parents are in the same situation. My sister has been communicating directly with the hotel, where the front desk admitted that they have had "many" unhappy customers as a result of this situation.

Dear Guest, Thanks for commenting even though you did not stay with us. I apologize for the unfortunate booking situation caused by a third-party booking company and beyond our control. For the best value and overall experience, we recommend always booking directly with any hotel at which you plan to stay. We hope you will come see how we satisfy our guests at our Best Western. Sincerely, Hotel Manager

We really enjoyed our stay. Great location, nice staff, nothing to complain about from us . Breakfast is a cold breakfast except the Texas shaped waffles that you make yourself. The pool was wonderful. The room was spacious and the internet is fast. The bed and pillows are amazing!!

Only issue was the bathroom door wouldn't close but otherwise it was a very nice stay with great staff and helpfulness! It was on the west end of the beach so at high tide we had to go down a bit to be on the beach but it was much easier to get into and out of so we were quiet happy with our choice!

Great location. Friendly staff. Beach across the street. Pool has nice view, the hot tub is nice. Good restaurants at walking distance. Parking is great with plenty of spaces. I recommmed this place. Good prices too.

Recently completely renovated. Clean, Bright, New. Love that the rooms have tiled floors. Comfortable beds, nicely decorated, clean bright hallways. Great value! Located right on the Main road that is directly looking out onto the Gulf, but down the road just enough to be away from crowds.

Overall the stay was a good one. The only suggestion I would give would be to get to breakfast early. They ran out of food the one day that we went to breakfast. The beds were very comfy. The room was very roomy.

"Not Clean"

We stay at BW all the time; however, this one definitely didn't meet expectations. During the first 15-20 minutes we were there, we had 2 different employees enter our room without even knocking. We ended up having to lock the door. The floors were filthy and we had to wear shoes the whole time. The toilet didn't flush well and there was only 1 trashcan in the room. I know they are going through remodeling after buying out the LaQuinta so I was trying to be understanding; however, cleanliness is unacceptable.

We had no issues just surprised on how clean it was so close to the beach. As long as it stays clean and well maintained, I would stay again. It's farther away from all the crazy busy stuff but yet close enough

The lady at the front desk was WONDERFUL, the rooms were clean, lots of attractions within walking distance. Quiet area, nice rooms, lots of parking, easy access to the beach, plenty of activities to keep you busy!

I stayed at this hotel several times and this time I noticed a big difference. Nicer decoration and the staff are very nice. I believe it is under new management now. I would recommend this hotel. The rate was good compared to other hotels in the same category. Location is nice and quite, just a little bit away from the crowded center.

"Not for the price"

It seems like at this place they don't use a checklist to verify the rrom is ready for a new guest. It is not fun to spend time back and forth to the reception (phone didn't work) to report issues, and try to change rooms to get all the services. I certainly stay away from this particular hotel next time I go to Galveston.

"Clean on the beach"

Clean and updated hotel on the seawall. Balcony to see the waves and minutes away from Moody Gardens. Breakfast was ok but did have a waffle maker and cereal. If coming from 61st, it is the 2nd Best Western...not the 1st one you see. We made that mistake.

"Great value for a hotel on the seawall"

Reviews for this hotel were mixed, so we did not expect things to be perfect. Staff was friendly and helpful. The new employee didn't know if we needed to show a credit card or not for a prepaid room. We were pleasantly surprised at how large the room was. The laminate floor had a few sticky spots. But it was probably still cleaner than carpet. Otherwise the room was fine. This hotel used to be called La Copa Inn. That caused some confusion because we made reservations under the new name, and then hotels.com sent us a receipt with the old name. The other confusion was that there are 2 Best Westerns in the same block. We stopped at the wrong one at first. But all of these were minor concerns. We would definitely stay there again, especially with the great price we got through hotels.com.
