Best Western Galena Inn & Suites

Probably one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at. Booked the Roman palace suite. Dirty, smelly, water spots in the hallway ceiling and bedroom. Stains all over the carpet. Brown rusty water out of the jacuzzi that we couldn't use. We stayed for a couple hours and left, absolutely disgusting. I paid over $200 for this room and it was terrible. I didn't contact any staff as we had no intention on staying in another room in this awful hotel, I should have because I deserve a refund. It was so bad there is no way they don't know.

The staff was great and the hotel was clean. It's nice to have an affordable place next to two restaurants and a gas station with a convenient shop. Will definitely recommend! Also it was a nice surprise to have a porch area in the room.

This hotel is the best bet for my money. It is quiet, has the amenities I need, and the staff are great. I love the balconies overlooking the woods and being able to experience nature while being on the road.

Stayed in a fantasy suite…so fun! Very roomy, comfortable bed, fireplace, luxury shower, private sauna and whirlpool tub and private patio. Clean room and quiet. Staff friendly. Good breakfast. Will book again.

The hotel is clean, room was spacious, and bed was comfy. We didn't eat their breakfast, but it smelled good. The lady that checked us in was super helpful and full of information! The downside is that rooms not very "soundproof", definitely want to request a room on the backside, could hear the traffic on the road outside, especially larger trucks. Could also hear people in the hallways as well, and it wasn't like they were excessively loud. Overall stay was just fine for what we were there for, and would stay again....as long as I can get a room on the backside. ;)

We had to move to this property last minute when our first place was infested with bugs. We were able to quickly get a room at this Best Western and were super pleased to find it to be clean and comfortable. The staff were great and friendly. I know we booked last minute, but the price was higher than we expected...but we were desperate.

I came here with my lady to celebrate Valentine's Day. I used my Rewards Club points to stay two days. We could only stay one night because of a blizzard and snow. When making reservations to stay in October I decided to use my free night that I didn't use. I contacted the motel and they said that I had stayed the two nights. I contacted the Rewards Center and they informed me that it was the facility's decision. I called the facility TWICE and was told that the “boss” would call me. It NEVER happened. I have stayed in this facility many times over the last 25 years. I am really disappointed in their handling of my dilemma thinking that they would have credited my account for the evening that I DIDN'T use. After all 16,000 points don't grow on trees. Needless to say my feelings about this place has waned. So, take nothing for granted. It's probably in your own best interest to work both sides of the registration desk when an anomaly occurs.

I would not recommend this hotel, as it is sub-par. Found a pair of women's underwear between the sheets. Room had strong musty odor. Breakfast was poor, with rubbery eggs, rubbery sausage, no biscuits for the not so cool gravy. Nescafe instant coffee? Really? Noisy air conditioning unit. Cobwebs in corners of ceiling. Old broken bed sitting by dumpster. Only good thing was that the hotel staff!

Clean, quiet and the air conditioning worked great. Mariam at the front desk was professional and pleasant. We were upgraded since we are Best Western regulars! Mariam acknowledged our loyalty and rewarded us with a corner room! Breakfast was good and a variety offered! Will come here again.

After booking directly with the hotel, and requesting a ground-floor room for medical reasons and confirmation of that request, we were placed in a second floor room - with no elevator! The man at the desk insisted he had no ground-floor rooms available. We immediately discovered the room was not as clean as I expected from a Best Western. It smelled musty, had dirty carpet and the bathroom door had to be shoved over the tile floor to close. An hour later, we informed the front desk of these issues and were told we could move to a ground floor! Seriously??? So now there's a room available? This room was also in rough shape. The carpet was dirty and torn in places and wall tiles were missing. The tub drained so slowly it took 30 minutes for the water to drain following a shower. The sink also drained slowly. We informed the front desk the next morning so it could be addressed after we checked out. We were assured no one would enter our room for any reason. However, that afternoon a male staff member walked into our room without knocking or announcing himself! After that, we felt very uncomfortable in our room. This hotel is a disgrace to the Best Western Hotel name. I would not recommend it for anyone!

Staff was very helpful & pleasant. Only negative was that the swimming pool needed some attention. After looking at the pool, we decided not to swim. For the price, I would recommend staying here.If need be, we will stay here again.

One of the best breakfast buffets we've found. Plus we loved the 24 hour Coffee station! *** Any hotel that offers Flavored coffee creamers is top notch in my opinion! *** The only complaint my husband had, which is actually a compliment to the hotel, is that the needs were so comfortable, it was hard to get anyone moving in the mornings!

We got a thematic room, it was perfect! We experiences a few unpleasant situations for example, when we wanted to use the jacuzzi it turns out it is dirty, the water was full of dirty soap form previous use. Also the bed was very uncomfortable and for some reason all the time we were there smelled like humid dirty mop. I believe if they improve these few things your stay could be one of the best.

Hotel could be really nice with some better standards around cleanliness. They have really cool themed rooms that make for a special weekend. Obviously they are more expensive. Shame, the low standards around cleanliness really take away from how special I was trying to make my weekend getaway.

Room was poorly cleaned, toilet was broken, non smoking room reeked of smoke. Pull out sofa was disgusting to sit on, let alone use it for a third bed. Location was great, that's the only positive I can give.

We booked the pearl of the sea suite for two nights. The room itself was very cool but not all amenities they advertised were functional. We had to move to a basic suite for the last night we stayed and the fire place didn't work in that room.

I don't know where these praising reviewers were staying, but they weren't staying here. The rooms had dated smelly torn carpet. There is no elevator. The refrigerator leaked. The room was dirty. There was a ring of water on the bedside table like someone had recently been sitting there drinking. The bed had hair under the sheets. The lamps are so old they have very loose outlets on them. We had to unplug the microwave and coffee maker in order to charge our electronics, because when we pulled the bedside table out to use the outlet it was caked with dust and cob webs, gross. The room with the hot tub was the smelliest and the mirror had multiple hand prints on it. The bathroom door stopper had some kind of gross bumpy spray on it. The tub/shower didn't drain well and we had to turn the water off and on during our showers to wait for the water to drain so we could rinse our feet. The towels were not all the same; some of them were like sandpaper. The fan did nothing to reduce the steam from the shower. Everything was dripping wet after showers. The exercise equipment was poorly maintained and the pool are was like a scene from a horror movie. I would not stay here if you have allergies.

I travelled with a colleague for business, and we enjoyed our stay. The booking process was easy and the lady who handled to my reservation was extremely helpful. The hotel was clean, and the location was easy to find. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

The room was very clean and well stocked with toiletries. Each room also has a coffee/tea maker, microwave and mini fridge. Rooms have either a patio or balcony equipped with 2 chairs and small table, perfect for having your morning coffee or evening cocktail. The bed was very comfortable BUT be warned the pillows are terrible. They are small and super thin and soft. I plan on staying here again but will bring my own pillow. Very convenient location, just about a half mile from main street and found the street from Ulysses S Grant's home.

Newly remodeled older hotel I believe. No elevator but we didn't need one. The pool was amazing. Pool was on lower level down stairs. There's a indoor and outdoor part of the pool. Breakfast was great. Everything was good and clean.

My wife and I stayed in the Pearl Under the Sea room and it was just as nice as the pictures made it seem. The amenities worked great and the room was very comfortable overall. We loved the blue lights and the ambiance of the room. Would definitely recommend!

The room was very clean and updated. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. The only thing I might change would be the pillows were fluffy, but went flat easily.Would definitely stay here again.

Travelling to Galena with my daughter - a reservation at a different location didn't work out due to poor cleanliness - and I was able to quickly reserve a 2 night stay on-line at the Best Western Galena. A fair price. Knew it was a good fit upon arrival with the friendliness of the front desk clerk. Room was stuffy, but clean and breakfast was satisfying and good. Since we were visiting friends in The Galena Territory and doing some main street shopping it was an ideal location.

Our go-to hotel in Galena was the Stoney Creek Inn, but after a lackluster experience (not bad, just not outstanding), we decided to try something else. We've stayed twice now at the Best Western, and will continue to stay there. We love the convenience of the 200-series rooms with walk-out to the parking lot. Super easy to unload and load, and a little outdoor seating area. Two restaurants within walking distance. Quiet and comfortable.

I don't know if you believe in Angels but I do and I met one this weekend. I brought a group of 14 girls and their moms for a weekend trip. Upon checking in my card temporarily put a hold on the payment after 4 of the 7 rooms because it was seeing the repeated charge. I panicked but the Clerk, Mirian N. Figueroa calmed me down, walked me through how to fix the problem and got us all checked in. For the rest of our visit she frequently checked in with me, making sure I was doing ok. She absolutely could not have been nicer! Not only did we have a great trip but I have a new friend! Great experience!

Had accessible room which was not fully handicap accessible. No handicap door access, tub not properly designed for accessibility- could not use. Only chair in room was low & wobbled. Toilet was lose. Handicap parking at opposite end of hotel from handicap room.

The room was very clean and spacious. It had a working fireplace and a cute little balcony with chairs. There was a microwave and a refrigerator that actually kept our food cold. The breakfast was always warm and there was plenty to go around. Staff was friendly both nights we stayed. Will stay here again.

Awesome suite with an under the sea theme. Sauna, hot tub, rainfall shower, clam shell bed, and giant fish tank! Great staff and awesome pool area. Hotel is clean and close to downtown shopping in a cute, historical town.

Surprised my wife by planning a getaway to Galena and a few nights in the Roman Palace theme suite. She was a little surprised! The room was neatly decorated and had a great jacuzzi and rainmaker shower. With the room on the lower level, there was a separate entrance so no steps unless you went to the lobby for breakfast or ice. Convenience store and Happy Joes pizza border the hotel. Easy access to downtown.

I have stayed here once before, it's a great location close to downtown Galena, one mile away. Staff are very helpful and friendly, hotel rooms are also nice. I would recommend this location due to location and proximity to all other attractions in the area.

We got a whirlpool suite and the whirlpool was big enough for 2 people to comfortably move around in. The water however wasn't hot and we drained it and tried to refill it to warm it up and it was like the hot water ran out. We paid around 300 for one night. It isn't within walking distance of the main drag, but. Does have a gas station and happy joes next door. We probably won't return, but maybe to go to one of their popular themed suites simply because they are few and far between.

It's outdated, room was dusty when checked in. The lock on the Main door was broken… & not only that someone tried to just walk in our room WELL after we checked in. Very suspicious & made us very uneasy, we had to rig the door just to feel safe to sleep. The Whirlpool Jets, need cleaned, they're stained yellow. The property was littered with garbage & old chairs & ripped off screens. There were Cigarette butts ALL over outside out of the balcony despite the “no smoking papers” you have to initial. There were “Monaco” cans right outside the balcony. The mattress and pillows were By far the worst part. Hard as rocks. And not to mention the piece on trim we found hanging off the wall. The fridge made a loud vibrating noise so we adjusted it just to find out the copious amount of dust bunnies behind it. Gross.

Great cave themed suite. Has a nice big hot tub. Fits 2 people comfortably. Enjoyed the sauna although it does take a while to heat up. The shower is amazing and spacious. Employees are friendly and provide a personalized candy bar at check in. Would definitely come back to try the others themed rooms.

The very kind lady working at the check in desk was so welcoming. she took the time to make sure we felt welcome. she took couple minutes to answer questions. Everything was so clean and relaxing. Staff went above and beyond to help.

We rented the Roman palace. It was beautiful. Very simple but beautiful. I felt like a princess in a huge suite. The bed was a little soft for my husbands liking but I loved it. The shower was amazing I spent hours in there. And the tub was great too. Miriam at check in was awesome too!

I slept in one of the themed rooms. It was mostly clean. The bed felt like sleeping on concrete with bricks for pillows. Tub was hard to get into for a short person. Overpriced because I had to recover from what I thought would be a relaxing vacation.

We stayed here while visiting Galena. Our room was very spacious for our family of five. My kids loved the indoor/outdoor pool. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We will definitely return!

This is our 3rd time coming to Galena and staying at this location. Service has always been A1, especially Mirian. Once you are greeted by a friendly person who loves her job you know the stay is going to exceed expectations. Will always choose Best Western and their fantasy suites :)

Great customer service, fast response to concern in the room. Fitness center is lacking, hot tub jets were not working. Rooms were clean, beds and pillows are not the most comfortable. Friends that used the continental breakfast area said it was very well done.

Great opportunity to stay here and excellent services from Mirian and she so charming and kindly explain all we need for the stay ! Love to sta again here in Galena, nice food, people and specially this hotel is close to downtown

I stay at this Best Western often. I have come to know most of the staff here. They all go out of their way to ensure everyone has a great stay. Jay,Miriam,Amy,April,Amanda and Matt all have wonderful personalities. I'm sure anyone that meets them or talks to them on the phone will find them very helpful. And knowledgeable about the area they serve. I would like to say thank you to all of the staff at this Best Western.

Hotel was average, breakfast was good, area around pool was dirty, hot tub was not working the second day, workout room very small and key to treadmill was always in someone else's room so never did get to use it.

We stayed in the Roman Palace fantasy suite, this was an amazing room and such a great experience! I highly recommend one of the fantasy suites. They also offer breakfast, which was delicious and fresh! We will definitely stay here again! The staff was friendly and helpful!

The pool is pretty poor, with the hot tub closed and the area dark and smelly. Rooms were fine. No elevator. For some reason the fold out couches in the rooms were all in bad shape. On the good side, the front desk did try to help when we had issues.

The room we stayed in was a king with a fireplace, those are much bigger rooms than some at the hotel, there was even room for a hide-a-bed! The hot breakfast was simple but filling and there was something for everyone to enjoy. The bed in our room was awesome, I was well rested when I woke up, and the pillows were great, too. The only thing is I wished I would have turned off the refrigerator in the room because the compressor was a bit noisy, most people don't sleep in their kitchen so that is understandable. The heating was very quiet and the fireplace put off a nice blanket of warmth after a cold day.

I am traveling healthcare worker and i choose this hotel because it was reasonable in price, with good reviews and near my assignment. The woman who check me in was awesome. I told her that we just came into town after spending two terrible nights in other hotels, she assured us that our room was comfortable and it was. The beds were firm, room was clean and the balcony was adorable. It was pretty cool to see deer in the woods behind the hotel. The woman who check us in was awesome and she should be manager. She made us feel welcomed. I wish I could say the same for the manager. She was really rude and made us feel like she did not want our money, since I was planning to stay there for the remainder of my assignment. This hotels tries to be bougie or swanky, but fails to deliver on the promise. If you are a traveler, this is not a good hotel to fit your needs. Seek elsewhere. The housekeeping staff however was one of the highlights of the stay and worked hard to make sure the hotel smelled clean.

This is a nice clean hotel with a nice indoor/outdoor pool. Breakfast is provided and has a small selection of hot items. If you need a nice basic hotel, this is a great place. There is no elevator but two of the three floors can be accessed without needing to climb stairs because there is a lower parking area as well.

Horrible stench upon entering room. Had to open window for two hours to try to get rid of the smell. We asked for another room, but was told they all smelled like that. If you are sensitive to any kind of musty-chemical smell, this is not the place for you to stay.

I could not believe how nice this little motel is! My room was roomy and adorable! It's rustic so it may not be for you if you like swanky, but I loved it! It was clean and quaint and an easy drive to downtown Galena. II see some others didn't love it. Ask for #303; it was great!

Spouse and I were out riding our motorcycles looking for fall colors. Great stay for the night. Would use this hotel again. Not walking distance to city center due to the busy road and no sidewalk. No dining opportunities available close to property.

The “Pearl of the Seas” theme room has potential as it is decorated well. Unfortunately, the wet carpet of the entire room, musty moldy smell, running dehumidifier, broken whirlpool tub (no air jets functional), plugged bathroom sink, and no cold water in bathroom sink (warm only) quickly destroyed any ambiance the room could have mustered on its decorations alone. Just one quick stroll across the room in your stocking feet required a sock change as they were soaked. The manager and Best Western should be ashamed to allow this disgusting stinky room to be booked. They obviously don't care about the guests! I would not recommend that anyone stay in this room unless you enjoy musty stench and wet carpet. It's too bad because with a manager that cared, the room could be cute…but that would require repairs, etc. Oh…did I mention that the room was pricey too! Don't stay here!!!

We stayed for a wedding and checked in a day early to explore the town which is 3 minutes down the road. We reserved the Crystal Cave room which is located on the lower level. The hallways immediately smelled musky and mildewy. The room theme was unique and there was a lot of effort put into it. If the room didn't feel damp and smell like mold and mildew it would have been a good stay. The carpet was wet and stained and the door jams had black mold. The bathroom door did not shut and there were several lights that needed to be replaced, thus making the room dark as well as damp, taking the Cave theme to a new level. We spoke to other family and their rooms on different floors smelled as well. You could see they knew there was a problem because there were dehumidifiers throughout the hallways but it just didn't help.

Let me start by saying Galena is BEAUTIFUL! Such a neat little community with lots of great shops and restaurants. Ok now about this basic Best Western With the craziest inflated prices I've ever seen. This room anywhere else in the country would have cost $110. I promised I would take my girlfriend to Galena on her birthday. I waited for way too long evidently. When I went to book a bed and breakfast they were all booked. I was left with no other choice. I had to go with the BW because they had the only lodging in town. I paid $250 for one night! I never felt so robbed by a hotel in my life. What makes this even worse . Its ran by Foreign owners that most likely pay 0 taxes. This place should be ashamed of the price gouging they are doing to hard-working Americans in the middle of a pandemic. Sunday I went down for breakfast at 6 am just to get ran out of the breakfast room. The guy working said I couldn't eat until 7am lol what a joke. Do yourself a favor sleep in your vehicle before spending a dollar with these crooks.

My husband and I stayed in the Caveman fantasy suite for our 12 yr anniversary. The room itself was so cool! I loved the theme. The shower was awesome, it also offered a jacuzzi tub and sauna. The bed and pillows were comfy too. The waterfall wasn't working in the jacuzzi though and the room smelt like smoke even though it's supposed to be non-smoking. Other than that, it was completely worth it.

This BW is on the way out of town on 20 but it is quiet and does have a restaurant within walking distance. There is no elevator so if you have walking problems make sure you let them know when you register. The rooms have balconies on the second floor which is nice when the weather is cool. Breakfast is ok. Sevice was fine and for the area the price is good.

The service people are great, greeted with a warm welcome and a friendly smile. The room was so musty, that the odor took our breath away. Smelled like a pack of wet dogs have been in the room for a few weeks prior to our arrival. The pool area was very very dirty. I love the idea on the indoor/outdoor pool but clean it once in a while. Stains on the walls from wet towels, debris in the pool so bad that everywhere we went in there we had stuff sticking to us. The pool railing in the stairs has rusted or broken off so don't dare use that to help with the stairs or you fall back in.

I am not sure who, specifically to recognize, but there was a nice surprise in my room when i entered it for the first time. There was a chocolate bar, a king size one, on the night stand as well as the two bottles of water that are included with every stay. I was not only recognized for being a diamond select member at check-in, but also in the room with a note and my name wrapped around the chocolate bar. I have stayed at many hotels (80+ nights so far this year) and none of them offered such personalized service like this. This trip was pure vacation and enjoyment, so it just added to it by seeing that the hotel did something beyond what they were expected to do. Amazing…

We loved our stay in the Crystal Cave but I was most impressed with the personalized candy bar they had ready for us. I've traveled so much over the years but this was a first and we really appreciated it. The room was clean and we loved the personal balcony along with bath oils for the hot tub. We enjoyed the sauna and waterfall shower. We would definitely come back. The only problem was the WiFi is not great from the basement and not all of our keycards worked. We couldn't get back into the hotel or our room and had to dig around to see if any other cards worked (only 1 did). Check in lady was so friendly and helpful.

This inn is located on US20 about 1 mile from downtown Galena. Very clean throughout. The basic room was spacious, comfortable and quiet. The breakfast was good and tables were spaced. Each room has a small balcony with 2 chairs and a table. Not the Ritz but very comfortable for the price.

The room was muggy. This made the sheets feel moist. For over 200 a night, I expected a lot better. Internet would not connect on iPhone. Smelled like marijuana in the hallways. I was disappointed overall.

Certainly not a 5 star hotel, but you shouldn't expect that from the price you pay. We stayed on a Thursday night in early July. The room was clean, bed was firm. The TV in the room was weird. Had to enter the numbered channel with the remote to get the channel to change. Couldn't use the up channel or down channel button. The walls are paper thin. We had the air conditioning running all night (loud) and still heard the person next door snoring. Also there is a lot of road noise on the side that faces the street. Not sure if it is as nosiy on the backside of the hotel. THERE IS NO ELEVATOR that we could find. A three story hotel with no elevator is a major issue for a lot of people. Breakfast was a disappointment. We made it down to the breakfast area at 8:00am. There were several people waiting around for the food to be replenished. Took around 15 minutes of waiting to restock. Not sure what the issue was, whether there was a rush earlier in the morning or just poor planning. Hot tub was out of service (drained.) Not sure I would have went in it if it was open, based on how dirty the pool looked.

Old property that needs considerable remodeling. Comp. Breakfast was very bad & we needed to go to gas station next door each a.m. to buy drinkable coffee. Entry door to upstairs stair was rusted & broken & entry area dirty & unkept. Staff was friendly but unable to meet guest requests. Very disappointed in property. Do not recommend this property to travelers. Best feature is it is very well situated to downtown Galena.

Beautiful views, balcony for each room. This is a renovated older motel, but the rooms are clean and neat. Very comfortable. Friendly staff. Close to downtown Galena. Breakfast offered may options. We were is a theme suite and the room was very spacious and comfortable.

Large room. Very clean. Small Balcony ok. Breakfast had a nice variety of items. Bed very hard. Killed our backs by our second night. Near Grant's home and Blaum Brothers Distillery. Away from the real touristy area, but a short drive has you at all the sites.

We stayed on the lower level in one of the designer inn and suites. It was called the Crystal Cave. Loved the room! Black whirlpool although the Jets weren't working, we still enjoyed the hot tub affect. The cave like appearance of the room was amazing. There were crystals above the fireplace. Crystals in the sauna. Large shower to fit 12 people. Huge round bed with twinkly vlights above it. An alcove for sitting with cushions, Desk alcove with a padded stool. Coach lights along every wall. Plenty of space! Microwave and refrigerator. You'll never want to leave the room. Very romantic!

Good location, clean but older hotel. No elevator, only stairs to second floor. Room had a little balcony, but overlooking parking lot was no view. Typical breakfast included, and the breakfast sandwich was quite tasty. No complaints and cost less than the resorts in area.

Pros: big room with balcony facing woods. Okay free breakfast—but no scrambled eggs or bacon/sausage. Cons: “Thank you for not smoking” on our room's door, but that's all. Our neighbor smoked on his balcony and his smoke drifted into our room. No elevator, so request first floor unless you don't mind climbing stairs. Dirty floors at entrance, lobby, breakfast room, parking lot. They need a broom and a leaf blower and weed pulling. Room rather dark, needs more lighting.

Rooms are so clean and modern. When you walk into the hotel you're greeted with a pleasant fresh scent. I love their indoor outdoor swimming pool that joined together and the hot tub. Location is great for visiting Galena

What can I say , the bed was all it had going for it . We arrived in our room n it had a pot pie in the microwave. There was coffee stirrers on the floor . The alarm clock bust not of been re set from previous guest n it went off at 5am . And we had to fix the shower head. We'll not be returning.

We had originally reserved a Queen room. Upon arrival one sit down on the bed and we knew we needed to Get another room immediately. The only way to get a better bed was of course if we upgraded. Front desk was amazing

Stayed in the queen suite (room 300). The room needs a thorough cleaning!! Furniture was grimy, found a dirty sock and Cheerios when I moved a chair, smelled like vomit in part of the room, dead bugs in the window sill. My infant daughter (who slept alone in the separate bedroom) developed clusters of bumps all over her torso and legs during our stay, our pediatrician said definitely insect bites. Makes me cringe to think there were bugs crawling on her when she slept! The staff was friendly. The breakfast was nice. But I definitely would not stay here again.

Husband and I stayed for a couple nights for our anniversary. Rooms were nice and clean. Pillows were nice and fluffy. Just outside of town but still close enough to get to places. We would definitely stay there again.

Room was quiet, didn't hear any noise around us but the beds could be updated unless you like super bouncy. Loved the fact that you could exit out the main floor or the outside. Checking in was great wasnt sure if there was breakfast or anything due to covid so we didn't check that part out.

We absolutely loved the pearl under the sea room. We are seriously considering putting a shower in our new place like the one in the bathroom. It was a nice quiet getaway for my birthday. We will definitely be back at some point in the future.

I have never been more impressed with a hotel than I was at this Best Western. We rented the Crystal Cave room and were greeted with an amazing experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel and our room were spotlessly cleaned and all staff members were wearing masks properly, which made us feel VERY comfortable during this pandemic.

My husband & I stayed here for our weekend away in Galena. Unfortunately we were unable to use the hot tub which was the main reason we had chosen this specific location. However, the room was much larger than anticipated, & it was in a very good location for what we wanted to do. The pillows were very firm atop a very soft mattress, so we both didn't sleep the greatest, but the room was very dark w/ the curtains pulled so it wasn't a bad sleep.

Heated pool was freezing kids couldn't stand being in it as it opens to out doors, it was nice 2 yrs ago, spa was said to be open, it was drained. Or room smoke detector was disassembled and had a plastic bag hanging over it. When reporting this was told by staffx2 that they were “ fill in staff”, morning staff simply took a picture, we had taken our own! Second floor with kids.. unsettling

It was super cool to see all of the different styles of rooms that this hotel had! We were happy with how close it was from Chestnut Mtn, which is what we were there for. It was a pretty awesome experience!

The pool is closed, the rooms could use a good update, and the continental breakfast is severely lacking. Two of these are due to covid. The rooms are still nice and clean, just a bit under maintained. Also the beds are very hard. Very friendly and helpful staff.

I stayed at the hotel while doing business on behalf of the State of Illinois. The hotel is listed on the State's preferred hotel listing, but when trying to book the room, the hotel refused to honor the agreed upon rate as published by the State. This is incredibly challenging for a State employee who has to abide by State rules related to fees and charges. Not sure where the problem lies, but to say it was problematic is an understatement.

Beds are old and bouncy. Rooms are really dark even with all lights on. Hot tub was dirty around the edges, Didn't want to touch my back to it. Ick. Breakfast was blah. Door to outside was kicked in at one time leaving the door jam broken. Didn't feel the safest. Quite expensive for what we received.

The jungle room was awesome worth the money for a night away. The shower was amazing. The pillows were great and even a sauna in the room. It was quiet and even the pool and hot tub were open, even during the covid.

Very nice hotel st a good price. Rooms were clean and updated. Beds were a little soft but comfortable. COVID-19 guidelines were being followed. Breakfast was fine. Very happy to see all the precautions.

we stayed here just 1 night on a girls trip to galena. the price was great, room clean, location very convenient for walking to main street (~15 minutes), and the breakfast was good even considering everything had to be individually wrapped! i would definitely stay here again.

As soon as you walk in, you can smell the mold. We switched rooms because of the smell in the first room. After 10 minutes in to the second room, my daughter removed the front of the air conditioning unit, only to find multiple layers of visible mold. We left the hotel, and went to another one. The front desk clerk was extremely apologetic, kind, and understanding. He also explained that, because of Covid-19, they had a hard time getting a company in to address the mold problem.

We stayed in this hotel for one night while visiting Galena. The person who checked us in was very friendly and knowledgeable about things to do and see in the area. We did not eat the included breakfast, so I cannot review that, but the hotel is in a great location if you plan to tour the Belvedere Mansion, Ulysses S. Grant's home, and the Galena Main Street. (NOTE: Due to an Illinois state law, the Ulysses S. Grant home is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays). We did enjoy checking out the various shops and restaurants on Main Street, and also our tour of the Belvedere Mansion. Our hotel room (#306) was very clean and nice, and I would recommend staying at the Best Western Galena Inn & Suites if you are ever in the area.

This is my second time staying at this property and it is even better than my last stay. I booked 5 nights using Best Western Rewards points, so I did not pay anything for this stay. I requested a room on the top floor with 2 queen beds and a balcony and the staff had it ready for me when I arrived. To top it off, there was a nice surprise in my room when I first entered. There was a king size chocolate bar with a personalized message wrapped around it that had my name on it as well as thanking me for being a loyal Diamond member. They also put 2 bottles of water in the room for me, which was great because most hotels give out the water at the front desk and I end up having to carry it up with my luggage, so I did not have to carry one more thing with me. I actually felt that this hotel was much more appreciative of me for choosing to stay here than many other hotels I have stayed at in the past year because they went above expectations by doing this simple extra thing for me. This hotel has definitely won my future business for staying in Galena for the future. The room was about the same as my last stay here almost 2 years ago. Spacious, comfortable pillows and bedding, sofabed, large desk with comfortable desk chair, balcony overlooking the woods at the back of the property, microwave and refrigerator, and a coffeemaker. I believe the shower head is almost brand new and the water pressure as well as the adjustable spray settings were great. The water in the bathroom got hot within 10-15 seconds, which is better than my own house and is more economical. The balcony was a little small, but enough space for 2 people to sit and enjoy the nice weather we had for most of our stay. Everything was nice and clean in the room and the furniture is in good condition. The hotel had signs informing guests that they needed to have a mask on at all times when in public areas of the hotel. I did not see every guest wearing a mask, although I did see staff ask one couple to wear them at one time. Most of the time, staff were not within eyesight and the guests who did not have a mask on just continued to not wear one. This is not the properties fault, but it seems some people just don't follow rules. Breakfast was actually better than I expected since they had all of the food individually wrapped in plastic wrap as well as some hot food choices. They could have simply done a grab-and-go like most places are doing, but they opted for the continental breakfast with modifications due to the pandemic. Silverware was pre-wrapped so you did not have others handling it. There is an indoor/outdoor pool as well as a hot tub. The WiFi was fast and reliable. The parking lot looked like it could use some patching, but it was not that bad. I will definitely be back here again.

This hotel is close to Main Street so it was an easy two minute drive to the gates. The room size itself was slightly larger than most and has a small balcony but that's maybe where the positives end. While the room was clean(ish) the beds are severely in need of an update. We had two queen beds and they were the old school spring mattresses, one just less springy than the other making them uncomfortable to fall asleep in. The dressers need to be updated as well. They were out of date and the drawer on our dresser didn't even close properly. The other issue is that it was extremely DARK in the room even though we turned on all the lamps they had in there. It was very odd and felt cave-like. The biggest issue for us was that whoever had the room directly above us must have had a sumo wrestling party because they were banging and thrashing around up there while we were trying to sleep. We called the front desk to complain about it and they said they would go speak to them but there's no way they did because the noise did. not. stop! Imagine trying to fall asleep and hearing 800 hundred pound buffalo stomping around above you and you're fearing for your life that they don't come crashing through the ceiling. Yeah, not fun. The breakfast was just "meh". Cold, overcooked eggs and sausage. They did have an automated pancake machine my son liked as well as bagels, small boxes of cereal, and muffins and whole pieces of fruit. But as another reviewer stated there really wasn't any sanitation around the food area. We noticed that most of the staff as well as other people staying at the hotel weren't wearing masks which was concerning since it's a mandate in Illinois. Lastly, my husband did his usual checking the room before we left to make sure we didn't leave anything behind when he noticed a bottle of vodka under the couch so you have to wonder just how well they are cleaning those rooms. Who knows how long that had been under there. When we got there we sprayed everything with Lysol so that makes me feel a tiny bit better about our stay, but not much. But if you're looking for a relatively inexpensive place to stay close to the gates or on your way elsewhere, it's "ok."

As a Diamond Select member I received excellent service and have no complains. The Suite was well cleaned with everything I needed. I will always look to this hotel when I'm in the area, whether for business or for leisure!

The lower level room smelled terrible, mold or urine. Didn't see previous reviews on this until we checked in. Some light fixtures didn't work. Several areas of dust accumulation. Special shower was great! Lots of garbage in the lower parking lot.

No masks or gloves worn. And no sanitation in or around the counter or food service. We wore our masks Respecting others but no staff wore there's. Food utensils were just laying on the counter food(eggs and sausage)were cold . Usually we have great service and food. This till very disappointing.

Love staying at this Bedt Western. Everyone is so nice and friendly, location is close to historic Gslena but just out of the way enough to have a relaxing, peaceful stay . They have very cool theme rooms . Of which all the rooms are spacious, clean and modern . The pool is a indoor that connects to the outdoor pool with a nice patio to sit on facing the woods giving it a secluded private feel . It's on the back side of building not in public view. Come here often to get away and relax in the whirlpool. Very charming Irish cottage pub and restaurant located within walking distance as well

Stayed in the cave suite and it was beautiful And romantic.. Staff was friendly and helpful. Clean common areas. The bed was super comfy. Hot tub and sauna was awesome. Was a nice getaway for a night.

With everything going on it was nice to just take a break and relax. The room was very clean. It was perfect will being staying again at the location. It was nice to be close to everything in Galena!!!

Excellent experience. Jay was fantastic. Really liked my room. It was decorated in a way befitting the historic nature of Galena with whiskey jug lamps, handmade wicker seating and log bed, cabin-styled wall panels, a TV stand that was a repurposed sewing machine, etc. Very thematic. Quiet, clean, convenient location near all the sights. I'll be back on my next trip through town.

Had a reserved suite and they sold it from underneath us. 14th wedding aniversarry ruined on a holiday weekend Saturday 3 hours from home. It was a very rare time with a sitter watching the kids. Barely got into another hotel late in the day, lost our dinner reservation, just watched cable. Will never use that hotel, may never use Best Western or go to Galena again.

The fantasy suite had a large king bed, 2 chairs, TV, whirlpool, and the most awesome shower! Overall, the theme of the fantasy suite was cheezy, but it was clean, and fun! I would recommend it if you're looking for a hotel room out of the ordinary. The lighting was cool, blue, similar to blacklight almost. My only complaint was there was no other option than the mood lighting. At some point, bright lights are important.

This is a fun hotel to stay at. Location in proximity to things to do around city is excellent. Theme rooms are amazing. I love their indoor outdoor pool as well as whirlpool. Always a relaxing fun time when I stay here

We have stayed at the Best Western in Galena every year for several years, sometimes twice a year. Everything there is just right for us and staff is always friendly and accommodating. Rooms are very clean with very comfortable beds, and the shower is perfect! Good, full breakfast with many choices is included with our stay, all at a great price. We also love the pool and enjoy sitting on the balcony with our morning coffee when we stay in the summertime. No reason to stay anywhere else!

The hotel has a nice breakfast and a small lounge area. The staff greeted us and promptly checked us in. We did not use the pool or spa but we looked at them and they looked clean and well kept. We stayed in the Lincoln Room which looks like a log cabin. It was really comfy. My wife and I found the bed extremely comfortable as well. We will stay here again if we want a long weekend in Galena, IL.

The room was neat and designed as a log cabin. The walls were log as was the bed frame and the furniture. The room was spacious and had a balcony to the outside.There were plenty of linens and the bed was very comfortable! There was no noise from the outside or from the other rooms.

Best Western says what it says and delivers. No surprises. Best “bang” for the buck. Room and amenities were comfortable as well as food and personnel. It had snowed and employees offered to clean off our car as we are “older”.

We have stayed at this hotel for over 20 years and enjoy the indoor outdoor swimming pool. The rooms are huge and have had a recent renovation. The breakfast is awesome with a good variety of hot and cold items. It is the best value and quality for the price.

This is the best hotel in the area! The staff is friendly, and fantasy suite rooms are amazing!! Take a trip wherever your fantasy allows!! They also have a fitness room, & a swimming pool, ut we didn't use much as we had everything we needed in our fantasy suite!!

We have been to Galena in the past and wanted to send some time in this neet little City! The Best Western Designer Inn is the best Best Western we have ever stayed at! The room was super clean, and the restroom just sparkled! The beds were just great and the pillows, there were Big ones, soft ones, little ones, they were great! Check in and out was super! The breakfast? The breakfast was super, best we ever had in a Motel! Had breakfast there all three mornings! The location was super easy, to and from!

This hotel is easy to get to and from downtown Galena. Once we got there it was easy to park . The exterior is adequate ...the back has a nice little balcony if you like to get a little fresh air. The price is moderate... The room is very nice...very large .The place was packed as we found out at breakfast, but we thought we were the only ones there it was so quiet!!! We got a good nights sleep. The Breakfast was way more than we expected. My husband is a heartier eater than I and well I need to watch what I put in ...Needless to say we were both very satisfied. A lot of selections! Yum!

Close to Main Street. Great price. Clean with indoor/outdoor pool. Very generously sized room. Many hot tub rooms available. Many dining choices on Main Street. Also only 25 min ride across the Mississippi to the Casino in Dubuque.

The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. The complimentary breakfast was very good--enough choices for each day and the variety was good also. The housekeeping staff did an excellent job keeping the hotel and rooms very clean!1 They were also very cordial and helpful!! The Best Western in Galena is also close to great shopping and restaurants in the area! I will definitely stay here again!!!

Stayed in room decorated like a log cabin. Clean, comfortable, newly remodeled. Quiet. No elevator and many stairs to second floor. Only one ice/vending machine and located on ground floor. Would definitely stay here again.

The hubby and I decided to come back to this hotel after having had a great experience here in a regular king room with hot tub in the past and wanting to try a themed room. There were a couple available. We choose the Roman Palace theme and peeked at a couple of the other ones when we were checking in just to get ideas for possible future stays. As before, the room was extremely clean (everything and especially bathroom, bed, and hot tub). The shower was so nice with many different shower heads. The staff here are amazing. The breakfast was fine for being included in the price. We will definitely be staying here again if the opportunity comes up. It might be fun to try a different theme room, but we really like the king whirlpool regular rooms too. So relaxing. I love that this place is not far from home and is actually less expensive than most other places to stay in the area. This hotel is definitely a favorite with us.

Unique hotel with indoor-outdoor pool and very comfortable beds! Room and hotel was very quiet! Breakfast was a nice variety of choices. Very close to main street shopping and activities. Would definitely stay here again if in the area.

Stayed here 2 nights in September - place was nice and night time employee was awesome. The hotel placed the do not disturb sign out and did not clean our room - we had to get fresh towels - this was a very rude thing to do. Also a large bug in the bathroom. Manager not on duty and when the manager was called they truly did not care and did not even provide responses. Poor customer service.

This review is based only on the room. We stayed in the crystal cave room and it was amazing it was just what we needed our life is stressful and we never have time for each other so this was the perfect getaway the room was more than we expected it was clean the bed was comfortable the shower was crazy awesome and the hot tub was big enough for both of us and my husband is 6 foot 5 and 280 pounds so that's saying a lot it also had a sauna! The breakfast was gross and the staff were not very friendly but the room was all that mattered to us if we were coming for a regular hotel room I probaly wouldn't go here

I was lucky to get a room at the last minute and the type I wanted also...top floor. There is no elevator here so the way the place is configured you have to walk up one flight to 3rd floor so plan carefully. Was on the "quiet side"...room was very clean, comfotablr and the breakfast was quite adequate. I would stay here again. happy trails

I booked a room for 3 nights with 2 queen beds. This hotel is right on US 20 and easy to get to. The staff were friendly and helpful. My room was on the second floor and had a balcony. It was too cold to really enjoy the balcony, but it was a pleasant surprise to see 2 deer outside by the woods when I checked out the balcony on my first night. Unfortunately I was sick for most of this trip and spent most of my time in my room due to not having the energy to do too many activities. I did not sleep very well at all, but it was due to being sick. The room was wonderful and comfortable. The breakfast was pretty good every morning. I didn't get a chance to see the breakfast setup since I had my friend bring breakfast up for me since I was not feeling well and wanted to save what little energy I had to go to one of the museums downtown. My friend described the breakfast setup and it seemed to be a good setup and good variety. I also saw another guest charging their electric vehicle overnight, so it is nice that they offer to do that. I would definitely stay here again. The room was very nice, clean, and organized. Staff service was great and I felt like a valued guest.

My Mother and I stayed in this Best Western, very clean and affordable-especially if you book during the week. And free breakfast! Also, and most importantly, Shane the front desk and maintenance employee was the best. He accommodated us with the best customer service! Gave us everything we needed for the best stay! Highly recommend this hotel!

First time staying at this hotel. Rooms were immaculate, plenty of towels, pillows. Had a room with a balcony and two chairs. View of the forest behind us was beautiful. A/C worked, and microwave and refrigerator. With all of this had a free breakfast too!! Very close to the Galena shopping district.Would definitely stay again.

We chose this hotel based upon the ratings we read online. The desk clerk was nice on check in, and we were given the oriental "suite" because that's what was available. We didn't need the whirlpool, but when we checked out the room, we noticed a fairly large brown cricket in the whirlpool tub. The shower was very nice, but the sink area was extremely small - too small to place a curling iron and a makeup bag on it. Lighting in the room was poor, even though there were several lights. The bed was hard as a rock. I wouldn't call the room a suite, either. It consisted of one large room and no closet. The suites I'm used to generally have a bedroom and another room with a sofa, chair, and a 2nd tv. Finally, the housekeeper didn't make up our bed. Not sure what happened there. Breakfast was pretty decent with good selection. Overall, the room was decent, but I was expecting something better based on similar hotels.

Will probably never go to another Best Western after this stay. Broken furniture (sofa bed) , no maid service and no elevator for 2nd floor. Only 34 rooms and they missed cleaning ours! Seniors beware!.

Our room was spacious and the sofa was well placed for watching TV. We appreciate having outlets by the bed since we need them for CPAPs at night. Bath was a bit small, but OK for one night. Breakfast was OK and the Cheerios were name brand. I appreciate having skim milk available. Check in and out went well. Luggage carts were available.

The room was great. The mirror has stars and wasnt too distracting as i thought it would be. The hot tub was great and the shower was amazing. My wife and i wanted to steal the pillows ( we settled for pictures of the manufacturer). The bed was amazing. The breakfast was really good. We had not seen an express pancake maker before, usually its just waffle makers.

Nice and easy access to hotel a few blocks out of town , clean and quite ,very friendly staff , front rooms on second floor had small balconys , only con was the lack of elevator to second floor and hard to walk up for us older folks

The Crystal Cave fanta-suite was so cool! They really did a nice job on it. We asked to see the other fanta-suites while there and they gladly showed them two us. Crystal Cave seemed like the best one, so I'm glad we chose it. All employees were super friendly and everything was very clean. Please note there is no elevator, and breakfast was just average. There is a Happy Joe's Pizza on one side of the property and a convenience store on the other. It's a quick drive into downtown Galena. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

We've stayed here several times in the past; the place could use a little freshening. Also, the 2nd floor is only accessible by a rather long, steep stairway. If that's a problem, ask for first floor when making a reservation. The desk clerk was engaged in a reservation telephone call when we arrived for check-in, resulting in a fairly long wait. In fact, by the time he was done, there were two more check-ins waiting in line. Room-wise, there was a large, ugly hole in the carpet near our bathroom door. The single chair in the room, an office-type chair, was quite uncomfortable.Those are the negatives. On the positive side, it still is a fairly nice place, and everything worked as it should. The HVAC was fine, and so was the wi-fi service. I can't comment on the breakfast, because we didn't eat there. The location, while not really walkable from downtown, is not too far. The ice cream shop next door has closed, but we've had dinner twice at O'Dowd's Irish Pub next door, and recommend it highly.

We had a wonderful time. The room was very clean and ready when we checked in. We stayed in one of the themed rooms. The bed was very comfortable and the room was nicely decorated. Breakfast was very good. They kept it warm and filled throughout the breakfast time. Room was also quiet.

This was nice little get away. We stayed at this Best Western right before you get into downtown Galena. We had reserved a 2 queen room on the 2nd floor online after setting up a BW account to get a preferred rate and were pleasantly surprised when we checked in to find out they had upgraded us to a King Suite with spare room (queen). There was no extra charge for this and the room was quite large. The only con to this room was the front entry door to the lobby could be heard slamming shut. A fixed door return would resolve that. This room had no patio but we were rarely there. Sometimes the AC would blow behind the curtains and required periodic pushing back on ledge but AC was nice and cold, though a little noisy in the spare room. This room also had a sofa bed. This hotel has no elevator, but we knew that when booking. It was nice pulling up and seeing deer crossing the parking lot too! The staff was very friendly and got us extra bedding for the sofabed and the morning breakfast was nice too. We never saw a pancake dispenser before, that was pretty neat. It was broken down one day during our stay but there was plenty of other items. I could walk next door to get a takeout pizza or down to the strip mall to get lunch at the Irish Pub and a flight of beer samplers (that was very good too). Just east down the road we took a tour at the distillery and did a lot of antique shopping and spent a lot of time at the Blacksmith in town to watch demonstrations and talk to the main smith there, even bought a railroad spike bottle opener that works better than store bought ones and looks real cool (highly recommended). This hotel was only a few minutes from town and I could fill up the car at the gas station next door. Very convenient.

This hotel had a good price and location. Upon arrival, we found the local four room to be less than desirable but the staff went out of their way to rearrange things and get us a better located room. We were quire happy with our stay.

Plenty of parking, well lit, clean motel and on the edge of town. Pool is inside-outside with a swim through opening and they also have a hot tub. Breakfast was very good with lots of choices, not just the typical donuts. Room had hair dryer, a private balcony (room 316) facing a wooded area in rear. The only thing they could approve on was the pillows were lumpy and horrible. Lots of hot water and water pressure was excellent. For under $100 it did exactly what we wanted. Next time we will bring our own pillows.

I would really rate this one 3.5 stars so I rounded up because the staff were polite and checked us in and out very efficiently. The room downstairs was a little musty but that was quickly remedied once we cranked the AC (the room cooled down very quickly). Room was super basic except for the huge tub in the middle of the room (which gave us a good laugh). Room was clean and breakfast was basic but a nice freebie so we could grab something quick and easy before leaving. The location of the hotel is good - just about a mile from downtown Galena with plenty of parking. I wish one of these hotels would provide a shuttle hourly to/from downtown as it would have been convenient to just stay parked at the hotel. Price is expensive for what you get - but options near downtown are limited so that is what you are paying for.

I went back and forth about a one vs. two rating. "We rolled into town around 1:00pm. We walked in to just check in before heading downtown knowing we planned to shop and have a meal, and the girl working the front desk doesn't look up. I said, hi checking in and she said "nope". I said, excuse me? She said no check in until 3:00. I told her I understand check in procedures because we travel often, and explained we weren't expecting our room but letting her know we were here. I got another, "nope, not as short of help as we are". I said okayyyyyy and turned around an walked out. We came back around 4:00 bc my daughter wasn't feeling well and there was a different gentleman working. He was at least pleasant. I told him the woman earlier was incredibly rude. He apologized and I told him he had nothing to apologize for. He wasn't the one that was rude. We got into our room and it seemed clean, but had a bit of an old stale smoke smell. Like maybe it used to be a smoking room. There were long black hairs on the bathroom floor, so I know they didn't clean that, but everything else seemed ok. I inspected the beds carefully. Then we opened the fridge and there was beer left in there. So I know they didn't check that. The floor had not been vacuumed bc there were strings and white fuzzies on the carpet. The bed was ok, but dropped in the middle. Air conditioner worked well. There were plenty of towels. The tub has one of those new surrounds so it was nice and white and clean. This morning I went to get coffee and there wasn't any. NO COFFEE? Free Breakfast, but we don't have coffee. I walked to the front desk to see the same girl from yesterday sitting playing with her phone. She didn't even look up. I said there is no coffee, she said yeah you have to go next door to the gas station. I was like WHAT? She said well I have been telling the coffee distributor. Then when a guy behind me asked for more in room coffee pods she asked him what happened to the ones that were in there? OMG. This woman could NOT be any more rude and does NOT belong behind the counter in any type of customer service WHATSOEVER. Breakfast was ok. The pancake machine was empty but the guy working quickly filled it back up. Biscuits were hard and they dump the gravy over all of them? I have never seen that done before. It is usually a separate container. We didn't use the pool, but it looked ok. A small part of it goes outside. It is dark down there and those crazy looking rooms are down there, and I believe that is where the crazy decorated rooms are, which seem a little "not so family friendly" appropriate. Looking out the back of the hotel is at trees, which is at least nice. We were looking at a parking lot, a gas station and a closed pizza place. I would never stay at this property again. If I had to drive 30 minutes away, I would. Charging $200 a night for this place was a complete and utter rip off.

Very friendly staff. The breakfast was absolutely delicious! Our fireplace stopped working, but told the staff and they were going to look into it right away. We would stay again if in the area. Nice location!

This is my second stay at the Best Western in Galena. The rooms are decorated nice and are clean. The staff is friendly, rates are reasonable and the location is ideal. Will definitely stay again on my next visit to Galena.

Very nice stay. Second time we stayed at this hotel and will definitely use it again on are next visit to Galena,Il. In walking distance to downtown Galena and it cuts you through Ulysses Grant grounds. Nice walk. Husbands didn't even complain.

There were frogs (dead and alive) in and around the pool. When I told the front desk person his response was, "Oh. Again?" I explained that one of the reasons we chose this property was to access the pool and hot tub, he said "hmmm". NO THANKS!!!

We had a very large room and it was nice. There was also a refrigerator and microwave which was very nice. The room also had a fireplace, but we only turned it on for a minute to see if it worked. We will be coming back and will ask for that room.

My sister and I just spent 3 nights and 4 days at this hotel. The room we had was in the front of the hotel with a patio out to the parking lot. We enjoyed many hours sitting there and occasionally conversing with passers by. The room itself was two queen beds and larger than most. About 3 additional feet between the beds and the tables with tv, etc. Very clean. Very comfortable beds. We had breakfast each morning with a variety each day including scrambled eggs, bacon, pancakes, french toast sticks, mini english muffin with cheese and bacon, fresh fruit, cereals and hot coffee and juices. Delicious. We enjoyed the swimming pool that was outside (somewhat small) and had an area you could go through to the indoor pool. Nice hot tub. A totally enjoyable experience. I would recommend it to anyone.

The hotel has undergone a facelift, rather than a renovation. It was very clean and pleasant. Good bathroom with an outstanding shower. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The hotel was also very quiet ... I slept through, which is unusual for me.The balcony was a nice touch, but we were on the side facing the main road, so wasn't really used much. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was the typical complimentary fare. Unfortunately there isn't an elevator/lift so may be tricky if you find stairs difficult.

Nice accommodations, friendly front desk staff (props to Tyler), clean pool/hot tub. Comfortable bed and recently remodeled bathroom made for a pleasant in-room experience. Didn't partake in the breakfast. Good sized fridge too. Would definitely stay there again.

We have stayed at this hotel before and I would stay here again. It's clean , safe, great location and the staff is great. They put together a very nice breakfast and keep it well stocked. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very clean, we even had a balcony to sit on. The hotel has a very nice indoor/outdoor pool as well as some theme rooms that seemed interesting, although we did not stay in one. It is also walking distance to a couple of restaurants

I had planned a special weekend getaway with my girlfriend because she had had hip replacement. I reserved and had paid for a room with a fireplace. The fireplace did not work and I notified the front desk. The young man from the front check in desk came and looked at it. He said he knew nothing about the electric start of the fireplace. He tried the switch on the wall, as I had, and nothing happened. He removed the front cover and said it looked fine. He would log it into the system. When I checked out they charged me the standard rate for a room with a working fireplace. I said the rate should be adjusted since they did not deliver what was agreed upon. I was told I would have to call the manager on Monday. I feel I was getting a runaround. I understand things happen but a good company should not expect you to pay full price when they failed to supply what was agreed upon. If this was the situation I would of reserved the standard room and saved $32.

This Best Western is a few minutes from both downtown Galena and U.S. Grant's home. No sidewalks along route 20 so you must drive to both locations. We stayed in a standard room with two queen beds. The room was spacious, the bathroom a bit cramped. Breakfast offerings included cereals, bagels, pancakes, eggs, bacon, juices, etc. Be aware that there are several themed rooms which you can request. We did not make use of the pool/hot tub. This was fine for a one night stay, nothing special.

We spent one night at this hotel and were very pleased. Reservations were made in advance but we discovered 24 hours before our stay that there was no elevator. A quick call to the hotel resulted in a room change to the first level. Clerk was very accommodating. Our room was comfortable, basic decor. Bathroom was adequate with a GREAT shower! Our room was quiet even with the highway nearby. Bed was comfortable and clean. Our room had 2 exits which was handy. Hotel breakfast was standard, adequate to get us on the road. Restaurants were within walking distance. Parking was convenient. Will stay here again if in Galena.

We stayed here for the wedding of my co-worker. Our rooms was a suite, spacious, and an awesome view. Never visited this beautiful town before. Outstanding hotel service and pleasant staffs. Best Western will be my choice to stay now.

Perfect location. Able to walk or drive into town. Love the pool and spa. Large room suite. Perfect for us! The room only lacked 1 more mirror over dresser so the 3 of us could do makeup in our own areas. Beds and pillows were wonderfully comfortable!

The rooms are clean, the staff is very friendly and welcoming. The beds have a thin blanket covered in two sheets instead of a comforter type duvet. Musty smell in the rooms. The pillows are ok, small. The pool and hot tub had a ring of scum around them, which was disappointing considering the rest of the stay was great. Overall, the place is clean and updated- continental breakfast was well stocked and delicious.

The customer service is outstanding, the hotel is perfectly clean and great location. We always stay at this Best Western when in the area do to the service. Would recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a great deal

Good sized room on the second floor, but for a queen room why did we have 3 single and a double rocker? To make a large room smaller?. Enjoyed a coffee on the balcony. Good breakfast the next day. Enjoyable stay.

The staff was very friendly, courteous and helpful. We enjoyed the balcony, especially in the early mornings when we could see the wildlife. The beds were a little soft, but no terrible. I was impressed that breakfast was different all five days of our stay - very nice. The next time we are in Galena, this hotel will be our place to stay and we highly recommend it!

This hotel may look a little outdated but the rooms are spotless, beds are comfortable , and front desk is very accommodating. Pool was warm and clean as was the hot tub. Nice location. Close to downtown Galena, Blaum Distillery, and historical attractions. I will be coming back!! Reasonably priced.

While taking a trip to Galena, IL, we stayed at the Best Western Designer Inn and Suites. We had a wonderful stay. Employees were very accommodating (Matt, you rock). The room itself was nice and clean-also has a balcony. They have an awesome indoor/outdoor pool with hot tub and they supply the pool towels. The kids love the pool. Also included is a breakfast bar from 7-10am. Not just a continental breakfast either. Pancakes, biscuits and gravy, etc. We will definitely be staying there again!

All of the staff were very courteous, helpful, and professional. The amenities were excellent, and the breakfast was plentiful, tasty, and satisfying. Overall, it was a very pleasant trip and we will definitely choose this hotel again.,

The room was OK. Fridge was wobbly and froze some food I put in it. Frozen celery isn't good. Had a cute patio area with chairs. Housekeeping left our room door open all day after cleaning, we got back at 7PM and found it. Thankfully nothing was stolen, but when we told staff at front desk, they weren't concerned and did nothing. Exhaust fan in bathroom didn't do anything but make noise.

My husband and I stayed here while our Boy Scout camped out during the Civil War Event weekend, and it was close to downtown, quiet, clean, liked the fitness center and breakfast option (gluten free varieties). Would definitely stay here again. The pool was relaxing as was the hot tub.

Very nice property, we stayed in a room with a gas burning fire place king bed newly remodeled bathroom. Close to area attractions, would definitely stay there again. The morning breakfast is always plentiful and fresh you'll never go away hungry.

As advertised, close to Galena attractions. The only reason it's not very walkable is no sidewalks along the state highway. Was able to upgrade on the spot to a room with a spa bath, reasonably priced. Breakfast and WiFi included. Breakfast is not great, but at least something is offered. Tiny patio or balcony for each room.

We stay in Galena several times a year but haven't stayed here in a few years so decided to try it. Check in and out was quick. We had a room on the same floor as the lobby.(there is no elevator). Our room had 2 queen beds, a full-size couch, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, etc. The room was spacious and clean. The beds were comfortable. The breakfast was good with a pancake maker, eggs, sausage, etc. The pool and whirlpool were nice. We would stay here again.

We didn't stay in one of the "fantasy suites," but we really enjoyed our stay. Our room was large, nicely furnished and had a nice balcony looking out on a wooded area. We enjoyed the indoor pool and spa. The staff was very nice and helpful. The breakfast was very good. The only question I have is pertains to handicapped access to the upper floor and basement. Although we didn't need it, I don't recall seeing an elevator. I recomend this hotel, but would suggest checking to see to what extent it's handicapped accessible. It they do have an elevator I will change my rating to a five rather than a four.

Celebrated our honeymoon in the Roman Palace. It was our first time in a "fantasy" hotel and won't be the last. The room was awesome and we loved the Jacuzzi and the shower. The hotel was clean and the service was great. Might have been the best hotel breakfast I've ever had. All the thumbs up!

My wife and I stayed in one of the designer suites (Pearl Under the Sea). Very nice, very relaxing, quiet. The breakfast was amazing, great selection, different hot foods each day. The hotel and our room was very clean.

Are second time here my girlfriend and I love there fantasy suites the first was pealrer of the sea this time Crystal cave it is very nice room has a sauna, jacuzzi, fireplace big round bed and a great massage shower. The room has a balcony, refrigerator and microwave,DVD player. The staff is very nice and helpful also ask the front desk if I could see there other fantasy suites and the front desk guy gave me and my girlfriend a tour of all of there fantasy suites going to try there other ones.

Stayed here over night just to get out of town. Room was very clean and had a cute balcony facing the woods. Breakfast was amazing! Couple hot items and lots of pastries. Pool and hot tub were clean and the pool even went outside too. My daughter loved she could be swimming outside with snow. There's a happy joes and a gas station in the same parking lot

Every single staff member that we interacted with at this hotel was pleasant and helpful. We stayed in two different rooms for a total of 4 days. Both rooms were clean; and breakfast every morning was fresh and well-stocked. Wonderful place to stay!

Stayed here for a girls weekend with my boyfriends mom, sister and sister-in-law. Location is a little further away from the Main Street in Galena, however, there was a taxi service that was available for a decent price. Decor was updated and rooms were very nice and clean. We had a room on the 3rd floor and it was actually much larger than anticipated!! We utilized the in-room fridge, internet, breakfast and pool/hot tub. They ran out of coffee during breakfast and after informing them, they immediately came out to get more going!! Everything was GREAT and would highly recommend this Best Western!

Top of the hill as you go into Galnea, this is close to the downtown (short drive). Walking distance to a pizza/ice cream joint and a very nice Irish pub. Indoor pool was good - could swim into a small outdoor section even in the winter. Hot tub small but nice. Always plenty of clean towels. Work-out toom was an elyptical, treadmill, and an old weight machine. Treadmill didn't work, making it below average for a workout room for this level of hotel. Breakfast was OK - plenty of options like cereal, oatmeal, fruit, pancake machine, bagels and pastries and such, sometimes yogurt with toppings. Always some kind of eggs and another hot dish. The hot dishes were not the best but was nice to have a nice variety, everyone could find something. Room was clean, a request we made when making the reservation was honored without remindding them upon check in. Everyone nice and polite. Would definitely stay again.

We enjoyed our two night stay at the Designer Inn and Suites in Galena. We travel to Galena several times a year to enjoy the shopping and restaurants there and just to get away for a few days. The hotel offers nice guest rooms with excellent beds. This last visit we had a king sized bed with fireplace as to use my rewards on the first night. We opted to stay an additional day as well. It was nice to have a fireplace and also a small balcony. We were in the back of the building with a nice view of woods. The Internet was easy to use and it was very good. We spent a lot of our time in the pool and spa area. It is also very nice to have Happy Joe's within walking distance. I thought it was just a pizza restaurant but surprisingly it turned out to be a great restaurant with an extensive menu. My only complaint about our visit was that the spa was very dirty along the rim.

We have been coming to this hotel for over 20 years. iit has always been maintained but recently all renovated. The indoor/ outdoor pool is just too cool for school!!!!!!The guest rooms are huge with the largest size mini frig and Microwave. The breakfast is awesome and coffee,tea,hot chocolate available all day in lobby.

We visited Galena this month and opted to stay at this hotel, located just outside of downtown Galena. What a terrific value! Huge room, very comfortable bed, excellent breakfast- especially appreciated the hot tub, after a day of walking & climbing the staircases in Galena.

I had a problem with finding a hotel that can hold a family of 6 with free breakfast and a good price. This hotel offered it all. The suite was big with a lot of room. Price was very economical and breakfast was very good. We stayed there 3 nights and everyday the free breakfast was different. They had a lot of variety. My kids did complain of the pool being ice cold, but they adjusted and were fine. I will definitely use this hotel again.

This is the second year we stayed at this Best Western. The room was very large. The staff were friendly and helpful. The coffee was excellent. The hot tub was great after getting so cold watching the parade. We plan to return next year for the Halloween Event.

The check in was easy, the room/view asked for prior to arrival was granted. Clean. New furniture, bedding and wall decor within the room, corridor and lobby. The bathroom could have had a stronger ventilation system as the towels, etc. were damp when getting out of the shower! The breakfast was a very nice offering of hot/cold breakfast choices. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Did not use the gym, pol or whirlpool so cannot comment; it looked very clean and nice though! Will return. Value was very good!

Me and girlfriend went to Galena for are anniversary and we stayed at the best Western and we got a fantasy suite called under the sea it was a very beautiful room it had a big fish tank with some nice fish the hot tub was big and very relaxing it had a big shower with massage shower heads and a rain fall shower head and the room also had a sauna are room had a balcony that faced the forest and it was beautiful sitting the the staff was ever friendly and nice we want to try and go back and try cave room next

Very clean and well priced hotel. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Never made it to the pool to actually get in but looked nice. Only drawback was no elevator but not a real issue. Breakfast was great!!

This motel appears to be very new or recently totally remodeled. Everything was very nice and the staff were extremely nice. I highly recommend it. It has a pool but we didn't use it so I cant comment on its condition but I would expect it just be just as nicely kept as the rest of the property .

Very clean room, friendly staff, nice indoor outdoor pool and excellent breakfast. Reasonably priced. Close to the main street of shops. Restaurant and gas station next door which is very convenient. We will stay again when visiting Galena.

This place is convenient to Galena but not in the historic downtown. Although our upper-floor room faced onto Route 20, we did not hear much road noise. We booked a "normal" room, not one of the special designer suites; we found it clean and comfortable. Decent hot breakfast. Front desk staff were by and large friendly and helpful. As others have noted, there's no elevator -- not a concern for us (at the moment), but maybe something to consider that is not necessarily obvious from the hotel's promotional materials.

My aunt and I stayed here at the end of August. We were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and comfort of our room. We enjoyed sitting on our balcony that looked out into the trees and spent quite a bit of time chatting and enjoying a cup of coffee from the lobby. The breakfast was more than adequate. If you leave hungry, it's not for a lack of options. The location of the hotel is very convenient to historic sights and downtown Galena. I would definitely recommend staying here and will certainly do so again, if I find myself traveling to Galena in the future.

This was the second time we've stayed at Best Western Designer Inn & Suites and it was as great as the first time! The rooms are extremely spacious and the rates couldn't be more reasonable. The staff is very experienced and very cordial and hospital, always asking if there's anymore they can do to make your trip more pleasurable. They also have both an indoor and outdoor pool so no concerns about the weather. My wife and I really enjoy the spa jacuzzi to relax in after a day of tours and other activities before we head out for some night time entertainment. We can't recommend this place enough! We enjoy coming to Galena and have stayed at other hotels and B&B's but this is the best. Oh, almost forgot.... There is also a free and delicious breakfast at this hotel before you start your day.

we stayed at the Best Western Designer Inn And Suites and it was a great experience, very clean, great breakfast and they happened to be having some kind of a corvette show where they all stayed at this hotel my husband was in heaven considering we own a 1968 corvette but did not have it with us. This was first time for us in Galena and we really enjoyed the area, we will be back and will stay at this hotel again

We have been to both their locations in the past but chose this for the Pearl under the sea room this time. We did stay 2 nights, one in a regular whirlpool room (not themed) It was a neat themed room, one of our favorites at this location other than the bed. (very hard edge around the clamshell made it hard to get in and out of without hitting something. The multi head shower was very comfortable as usual. The whirlpool tub had enough room to comfortably fit 2 adults and was very relaxing. The 2nd night in the regular room was not as good as expected. The room was not cleaned well (food left in fridge, sock and tissue on floor) We didn't use the whirlpool as planned due to being unsure if it was cleaned. The 2nd room had thin walls, we heard Every detail of what was going on in the next room. Had to turn air fan up to block noises

We visit Galena every year and always stay here. Everything is just right so the stay is always a great experience. This hotel features a free (and very good!) breakfast, which makes it a great value. It is tastefully decorated, very clean and well-maintained. The beds are very comfortable and we always sleep well here. We enjoy taking our morning coffee and relaxing out on the balcony (every room has one). Also I need to mention that the showers are awesome! There is a great indoor-outdoor pool and a nice relaxing hot tub. Staff is always friendly and eager to help as well. We were once again very pleased with our stay.

The room was very large and spacious. Very clean and immaculate. We had a second floor balcony facing the wooded area in the back. The location of the hotel was excellent. Just outside the downtown area of Galena. On the right they have Happy Joe's which is a fine restaurant to eat at and a gas station on the left which has some of the lowest prices in the area. Breakfast in the morning was fine. Great price and value for the room. My wife and I have no complaints. We would definitely stay here again.

This hotel seems to be an average ordinary Best Western hotel, the "Designer Inn & Suites" is really a stretch/misnomer.They may have made some enhancements to some of the rooms they call suites, but the hallways and building facade would imply a run of the mill roadside hotel. The hotel is located right on Route 20, tucked tightly in between a gas station and a restaurant. There are rooms with balconies that overlook the parking lot next to the highway. I had to push the front desk to get a room on the quieter side that overlooks a wooded area. i agree with the reviews that say it is noisy, I could hear people's regular conversations. If I wanted a true Inn or Suite I would definitely not stay here, but if you're looking for a budget type room, this place can work for you. It is about a mile from downtown Galena, so you'd have to drive that mile, because it is hilly, or walk it, but you'd need to wend your way to get there and wear some good walking shoes, it was a good heart pounding workout hiking back up the hill to the hotel..

Our room was spacious and clean, looks like it had been upgraded from our last stay there (2 years ago). Staff was friendly and helpful, breakfast was tasty and provided a nice variety of dishes from which to choose. We liked that there were two restaurants within easy walking distance too.

Close to downtown Galena, only 1.2 miles away. Huge spacious rooms with personal patio and fireplace. Excellent breakfast and free Wi-Fi with our stay. Indoor/outdoor swim through pool. Great, helpful staff. There were no elevators however.

The rooms were very modern, clean, and spacious. Fantastic breakfast choices, for being included! Kudos to Jess at the front desk. She was an excellent hostess, and saw to all of our needs. We stayed at this hotel while in Galena for a wedding. The $180 price tag was pretty steep but on track with what other places were charging for the weekend. The hotel has been updated with modern decor but a few things need some help, namely the dampness in our room. The only word I can think of is ‘soggy.' The room smelled ‘wet.' The bath towels felt damp. When the bill was under our door in the morning, the paper was limp from moisture. I had a package of crackers on the desk and they were like wet sponges by morning. It was strange. The bed was comfortable but the little square foam pillows were not. If you're a picky sleeper, bring your own. The sheets must have been washed a million times because they were covered in those little ‘pills' you get over time. Not comfortable to sleep on. Some of the outlets were so loose the appliances wouldn't stay plugged in enough for a charge. The room was clean I guess, despite the things I mentioned. I may stay here again if it was 1/3 the price, but definitely not worth what we paid.

Very fun themed rooms. Overall pretty clean but has some air circulation / humidity problems in theme rooms. Breakfast is good. Very close to Galena Main Street with lots of small town shops. Very close to Grant's Home.

Very pleased with stay. Rooms very large, clean with comfortable beds, Breakfast good, loved the strawberries for the pancakes. Pool and hot tub were nice. Staff changed dates of stay for us with no problems. Only negative room had slight old smoke smell.

I stumbled upon Best Western Designer Inn and Suites in Galena. We have always enjoyed staying at Best Westerns and thought Galena would be fun to explore. We ended up enjoying Galena and our motel room so much, when it came time to check out, we decided to stay another night. The price was reasonable. The room was great. We enjoyed having the extra seating provided by the couch that was in our room. We also enjoyed the balcony, the modern feel, and the view. My boys especially loved the pool and swimming from inside to outside. My husband and I are planning to make a trip to Galena next month, and I already reserved us a room at Best Western Designer Inn & Suites for our trip.

Staff was very courteous, and helpful. I unfortunately had to check out a day early due to illness, and they did not charge me for the 3rd night. Awesome!! The only negative I had was the outdoor pool seemed unkempt.

Last minute choice to go to gelena... the had one room left which was the heartland suite! What better room to have for my honeymoon! Heart shaped hot tub, fire place, private balcony that faced the woods and awesome lighting above the bed and hot tub! Very clean the bed was amazing to sleep in! The breakfast in the morning was delicious and it was a 2min drive to downtown galena to go shopping! I was sad to leave because it was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at! Can't wait to come back!

We stayed at this Best Western because if been it others that were an amazing stay! I figured if The was in Galena, IL it would be just as good if not better. but unfortunately this was not the case. The first issue we had was the noise from the main road. Our room was located on the second floor at the front of our building and we got a ton of noise from trucks and car. It made it difficult to sleep at night. To top it off the beds were just horrible!! It felt like my wife and I were sleeping on the floor. We both were very sore and unrested during our whole vacation. We had tried to switch rooms the second day but they were not willing to work with us because we had already “dirtied a room”. The website had said the hotel was newly renovated, but it really did not seem like it. The carpeting in the main hallways and doors were old and dreary looking and didn't look vacuumed. The stairs leading to the second floor was covered in crumbs and dust. And on the final night was stayed we had found several ants in our beds throughout the night! Which was downright disgusting! They hadn't vacuumed our room once the whole time we had stayed. Do not go here. It may be one of the cheaper hotels to stay at in Galena but find another hotel if you want to enjoy your time.

We were in Galena a few years ago, when they were adding the fantasy themed rooms, and got to see them under construction. Decided to come back and find out what they were really like. We stayed in the Roman room, and the Crystal Cave. They were both well done, but quite a bit different from each other. The light controls in the Crystal Cave were a little unique, as they had about 6 switches, I believe, drove me nuts at first. Both rooms had Jacuzzis and gas fire places. As it was July, we chose to ignore the fire places. The cave also had a spa, which in July, we also didn't use. But hey, we got to sleep in a cave. The Roman room was nice, but more 'sophisticated' than the cave. Guess that's what you get for a few thousand years of advancement. Beds in both rooms were comfortable, slept like a rock. Breakfast was okay, not extremely special. They do have a pancake making machine, that rolls pancakes off of a conveyer belt. They were pretty small, but I guess you could just keep 'printing' them off. Overall, a nice place, but don't know if we'd do it again. We haven't tried the Irish Cottage yet.

The place is updated and the room was comfortable but had lots of wasted space. The bathroom was very small and the room was huge. Had to carry our suitcases up a flight of stairs. Not recommended if you cannot hand carry your luggage. Short trip to downtown but need to drive there.

I had always wanted to try a themed hotel room. The Pearl of the Sea suite was the size of 2 standard rooms. We had a 2-person whirlpool and a sauna. The shower with all the jets was amazing. It had blue lights. If you wanted to get some serious work done, this is not the room for you because of the lights. The hotel is a long walk to downtown. And then it's all uphill back to the hotel. There is not Uber or Lyft service, but we did call a cab to take us back. The breakfast was nothing remarkable.

We decided to see Galena on our trip. We selected this hotel and it proved to be a good choice. We arrived early and the front desk found out if the room was finished yet. A half hour later we were in the room. We had a balcony unit on the 3rd floor. We used it to enjoy the evening while sipping some wine. There is also a restaurant next door so we didn't have to drive after our day of touring Galena. The breakfast was good and check out was fast. I would have given this hotel a 5 but there was no elevator so we had to lug all our stuff upstairs. The stair flight was pretty steep and the rails are down lower than we were used to having. Keeps us in shape though.

We were greeted by a friendly man at checkout and he was more than happy to accommodate our wishes (we were assigned a street facing room and my husband requested one that faced the rear.) We were given s beautiful room on the main floor. It was very clean and well decorated.

This was our 2nd stay at this hotel and just as good as before. The location is very convenient to everything. Our room was comfortable, good TV and refrig & microwave. The breakfast was very good. Front desk people were polite. Price was very reasonable - midweek. We'll stay again.

We stayed on the first floor this time (our second stay here) in room 207. The room was clean, air conditioning worked well in the blazing heat, and the water pressure in the shower head was AWESOME! We liked being able to come and go from the outside of the hotel if we wanted to....and there was a nice little private sitting area just outside our room. (Unfortunately there were smokers above us who felt it was okay to toss butts over their railing......not cool!) Our door to the outside had a chain lock that was not properly placed, on the door frame, so it scraped every time we opened or shut it, but it worked properly. The breakfast each morning was sufficient. Hot things were kept hot, and the pancake machine was great. The breakfast seating can get a little awkward and crowded, but there's always the option to take it back to your room. The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly, and our room was always clean when we got back from our shopping/dining, so no problems there. Main complaint would be bathroom storage/hooks. Only one on the door, and it was short, so only something small could be hung on it. The sink area was always splashed with water, so not a good place to store toiletries. There IS a shelf under the sink that we found helpful. Mattresses could use updating, or else they were just too soft for my liking.

My husband and I were both very pleased with the Best Western in Galena. The rooms were up-to-date, very spacious and clean. The indoor/outdoor pool was great. The hot tub was very nice too. The staff was very helpful and were able to provide information about the surrounding area. We also enjoyed the hot breakfast - a great way to start off the day! There is a family-style restaurant and an Irish pub within walking distance - also great food.

Our hotel was perfectly located to explore historic downtown Galena. The decor inside was very cheerful and the desk clerk was so nice and helpful with good suggestions as to where to shop and also eat. Our room was very large and nicely furnished. It also and had a nice little balcony. Breakfast was very good with several different selections. It is one of the nicest Best Westerns we have stayed in and we will definitely be back.

We stayed in the crystal cave room. Great !!! Very friendly staff. Room was clean, very comfortable memory foam bed. Small private balcony. Awesome huge shower.loved the whirlpool tub. Looking forward to going again.

We spent on night here as an anniversary gift from our daughters. We stayed in a regular room. It was nice and clean and quiet. They had a nice breakfast available in the morning. Typical items for the continental breakfast. We would definitely stay again.

1 grandma had a wish list to visit Galena with our grandkids. We booked a room #300. It was spacious and quiet. Great location to downtown and close to food. Breakfast was not a disappointment. We had a great time.

With so many choices in Galena to stay I'm glad we chose this Best Western. It is very nice you can tell they just remolded it. The rooms are nice and big, clean and quiet. They have a nice hot breakfast with eggs and sausage one day and the next it was eggs and bacon they also had the normal things donuts and bagels. Our room was spotless nice size with a king bed and a bonus of having a balcony to sit on. It's nice after a long day to relax at night on the balcony. The lobby was always clean and Amy at the front desk was very helpful and friendly always had a smile. When in Galena we will definitely stay here great hotel, good prices and great staff.

We chose this location because Best Western is very biker friendly. They were very helpful to us. Hot tub, pool, room, and breakfast were awesome. Truck traffic starts early though and is not very quiet even with Jake break law. We stayed here two nights and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Hotel was clean and looked to have been recently updated. Would definitely recommend staying here. It was an easy walk to downtown shops or to the distillery, if that is your thing.

We've been staying here for years now - never disappointed. The location (just minutes from downtown Galena) can't be beat. The rooms are immaculate and the entire place is well-cared for. The staff are very helpful and value their guests. Recently we've started trying the theme rooms, which have fireplaces, spas and more room than most hotel suites. Beautiful views of the woods from the decks off each room as well - and a private entrance in the back. All-in-all, this place is a hidden treasure and a great value!

My husband and I took a mini-honeymoon to Galena and we were thrilled to be able to stay in one of the fantasy suites! We were right next to the indoor pool, and our suite had a great whirlpool, an awesome double-showerhead shower, and a cute little balcony. The room was clean and comfortable, and we definitely appreciated having the mini-fridge and microwave for our leftovers. Check-in was quick and simple, as was check-out, and housekeeping was great--we were gone for an hour or two and we came back to a sparkling room and replenished towels/toiletries. There's also a good cable selection, as we found when we wanted to catch a Stanley Cup Finals game. As a bonus, Happy Joe's is right next door and will deliver, and the Galena Day Spa (at the picturesque Irish Cottage Hotel) is just a short walk away so we were able to go get our massage and then get pizza delivered while we lounged. We can't wait to come back and maybe try a different fantasy suite!

Check-in was a breeze and our room was huge and clean! Our balcony looked out into the woods and was very peaceful! Every staff member we talked to was very pleasant and professional. Breakfast was delicious and the dining area was clean. We were next door to Happy Joe's and walked to Frank O'Dowd's Pub and Restaurant where we listened to Irish songs. It's all about location, location, location and cleanliness!

We recently stayed at this property in one of their fantasy suites. I have NEVER had such a wonderful experience from check in to check out. The staff at the desk we all very friendly, courteous, and helpful! I asked to see another one of the fantasy suites (The Pearl of the Sea) which they gladly showed me as well as the other suites as well. We stayed in the Cave and it was AMAZING. Everything detail was done to perfection. Finally, the breakfast is truly a FULL Breakfast. I would recommend this property to anyone traveling to Galena or anyone just looking for a great getaway!

Was in Galena for business, on a one night stay. Was not sure what to expect, since some BW's have been upgraded and some not, but this one was great. Staff at check in were friendly and fast. The room was updated, clean, fresh bathroom. Internet speed good, and breakfast the next day had healthy options. Had a room close to HWY 20, so a bit of noise. Great value, and I would stay here again. .

My husband & I stayed here 4/6 thru 4/14 and really enjoyed our stay in the Hearts Delight fantasy suite. Room was so very relaxing with a heart shaped tub, gas fireplace and 2 chairs and lots of mood lighting and right down the hall from the in/out pool which we loved. We enjoyed the small porch off the room also. Everyone on this staff was so wonderful and friendly while we were there and that is so important especially when staying for a week. Amy - the manager was very efficient and always pleasant, the server for breakfast (we saw 2 different ones but only have one name) Kim and ? were both so pleasant and Kim gave us ideas of places to go and both worked so hard keeping up the very delicious breakfasts.Tyler and Geoa (sp??) at the front desk were always pleasant and interested in our plans. We will definitely be back here many times! Thanks BW for the great stay!!

My husband and I recently stayed here for my 50th Birthday celebration. The room was very nice and clean. I loved the balcony and enjoyed sitting on it. The front desk was very friendly and helpful. We especially enjoyed the Full Breakfast - very delicious with many options. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Galena

We are BW card members and loved our stay just a bit outside of downtown Galena. Staff were all friendly and efficient. The parking on site is convenient. Our room had a deck with the woods view. Beautiful decor throughout the motel. Beds were a little it "bouncy" but comfortable. Coffee in the lobby and complimentary breakfast are always appreciated. We highly recommend this Best Western.

I am actually writing this review while I am staying here! It is clean and updated. The price was terrific, especially if you join the BW “club”. Everything looks new. All the rooms have a small balcony, get a room in the back and you are overlooking the woods. We have. Room with 2 queens and sofa sleeper, very large room for 65$ plus tax, I think signing up for BW helped bring down the price. Front desk clerk helpful and friendly. I would certainly recommend.

Went there for a weekend. Room was clean and very nice. Soundproofing was a bit lacking, it was a bit loud when people were walking around. Bed was on the soft side(personal preference). Staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was great! We were there 2 nites and each day's breakfast was different and very good. Price was excellent. Definitely recommend.

The room was clean and newly remodeled. Shower was great! Every staff member we encountered was super friendly. Breakfast was good. Great variety and even included hot options that were actually hot. I would stay here again. Although it is only ~1/2 a mile from Main Street, it isn't really walking friendly as it is on the highway.

The hotel was newly renovated and looked very clean, modern, and comfortable. Our room fit our needs perfectly and allowed our large family to all sleep comfortably and have our own space without feeling like we were all on top of each other (which is how we feel at most hotels.) The staff was wonderful and we felt very at ease. The location was perfect for us being right next to a Happy Joes to allow us to have an easy place for dinner or dessert or a place for our kids to play games, and also next to a gas station for any odds and ends we might need and also made it very easy to fill up and get back on the road when it was time to head home. The pool was a great place to relax and didn't feel overly chlorinated like most pools do. it was clean, but I didn't feel like my skin was going to burn off when I got out of it. The indoor/outdoor part was really neat and something we had never seen before. Although it was too cold to stay outside too long, the kids thought it was fun to do a quick swim outside and feel the cool air for a minute. The breakfast was delicious and our kids loved making giant waffles each morning. I work in the service industry and there is a big difference between a staff of people that show up to work to do their job and people who try to make a great experience. You can be the best at your job on paper, but its the people that really try to connect and care for their guests that make an experience great, and I felt that way here. This will definitely be a regular place for us when we are in this area.

My daughter and I stayed for Wine Lover's Weekend. We found the location excellent and the room was perfect for our stay. The hotel has been updated and having a balcony would have been great if the weather had cooperated. The rooms are furnished with small refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. We walked over to the Irish Pub at the nearby hotel and enjoyed great live music. The breakfast was ordinary. My only complaint is the noise. We could hear people talking in the next room and muffled snoring from the same room all night.

We stayed at this property and we were absolutely amazed at how wonderful it was. We paid significantly less than half of what a hotel in the downtown area would have been and it was only 2 minutes from downtown. The staff was very friendly, the room was immaculate. I am a clean freak and so hotels generally don't live up to my standards. The King room was very large and VERY clean. The bathroom was absolutely spotless! The bed was very comfortable. Our room faced the highway and I was worried the traffic would keep us up. That wasn't the case. The breakfast was really good with a large selection of food. I was very impressed and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

The rooms were very large and the balcony was great. Anyone touring Galena this is a great place to stay! The rooms were very clean! There is a gas station next door if you need any snacks or beverages. And there is a Irish restaurant next door as well.

I've been to Galena before and stood at the Irish Hollow. I never heard of Best Western in Galena so we thought we give it a try. As soon as we arrived, Joshua welcomed me with a smile and checked me in super fast. We couldn't find a baby sitter for our children so my wife and I were going to settle for a small room with our children. Joshua as able to find a room for us that would be best for the number of guest we had. The room was perfect and really nice and super clean. I have stayed in many high end hotels and I have to say this hotel is very top notch. Joshua is super friendly and very knowledgeable about Galena. We are looking forward in checking out Breakfast in the morning. If you are in Galena and looking for a nice clean and friendly hotel. Come to Best Western. Definitely a nice place. The young man who was at the desk when we checked in on Thursday 3/22 at 7 pm, was awesome! Recommended places to go for dinner. The breakfast was decent. The only thing that I thought could be better was the pool was cold; they need a sign in the fitness center stating that you need a key for the treadmill and cleaner for the equipment. It should be cleaned after each use. Really no complaints! Would definitely stay there again.

We stayed here a couple of years ago, since then the hotel has undergone a complete renovation with new exterior paint and new decor through out inside, done very nicely. We opted to stay at the back side of the hotel rather than facing Hwy 20, much quieter! Our room had 2 queen beds AND a sofa to watch t.v., nice and roomy, plus fridge and microwave. Hotel staff was always friendly and greeted us with a smile. Motorcycle enthusiasts will enjoy a restaurant / pub right next door and a gas station to fill up. There is an indoor/outdoor pool which we did not use but looked welcoming. We will stay here again when travelling to Galena.

This hotel was the perfect setting for our girls trip. The rooms were a great size. Nice breakfast included. The pool area was nice with an indoor pool that alows you to access the outdoor pool. The outdoor pool area has a nice patio overlooking the woods.

We checked in here because a lot of hotels were booked for presidents weekend. The price we decent for weekend prices. However, the bed was painfully firm, the pillows very lumpy, and the breakfast was average. The hot tub and pool were nice after skiing and the staff were friendly. It was very convenient location and parking was easy. It was clean and quiet. Nothing super special and would prefer more comfort, but was a fine stay.

We stayed here during the Special Olympics Winter Games and had a delightful experience. We used to stay at the Stoney Creek Inn but switched this year to Best Western. The rooms are much larger, they were clean, and the location is more convenient. The check-in process was quick and breakfast was very good. Josh, at the desk, we very helpful when my TV wouldn't turn on. He also answered other questions with a smile! We plan to stay at BW again next Winter Games!

Made an unexpected weekend getaway to Galena and wanted something reasonable and nice. BW hit both. Good price for a weekday and weekend day stay. Location was kind of strange as it faces Hwy 20, but convenient to everything in town. Our room was at the far end, which seemed great until the garbage truck came both mornings at 6:30am-7:00am or so. Also, could hear people coming up stairs and exterior door and semi-trucks traveling by. Back of the building would have been a bit better. Has been recently updated, but seems they overlooked a few minor details (i.e. bathroom door didn't latch - was the old door). Would have liked a heavier blanket. Continental breakfast was adequate. Food was fresh. Nothing gourmet but plenty to choose from. Did not use the pool - no comment there. Overall it suited our needs and we would likely stay again if needing a simple, lower cost option for Galena.

Nice comfortable clean room near to Galena main street. The room was of decent size with two beds and a pull out sofa. There is a nice balcony looking into the woods. really nice breakfast in the lobby as well as Coffee until later in the evening. Defnitely enjoyed my stay here and would be my top choice when we are in the area.

The Best Western Designer Inn and Suites is convenient, clean and located perfectly for taking in Galena, Illinois. We enjoyed the hot breakfast, friendly, helpful staff and large, clean rooms. We were not prepared for the hilly terrain and were so grateful to have a restaurant right next door to prevent the necessity to drive in icy conditions.

This is a great Best Western Hotel---conveniently located on Hwy 20, not too far from historic Main Street, Galena. Our room was spacious, spectacularly clean, and we had a fireplace, a microwave, refrigerator, huge flatscreen TV (with many available channels and Showtime) and free Wifi. The bathroom had botanical soaps and Pantene hair products. We also had a balcony with two chairs overlooking a wooded area. Staff is friendly, a variety of newspapers are available, and there's a free lobby breakfast from 6 to 9 a.m. Monday through Friday (till 10:00 a.m. on Weekends). There's a Happy Joe's Pizza/Pasta, and sandwiches restaurant on the premises that will deliver to your room if you don't want to go out. Better yet, the price is very reasonable. Definitely will return to this Best Western whenever we're back in the area!

Came here for a ski trip to Chestnut Mountain. We had a king room with fireplace which made it nice and cozy! Staff was readily available for any requests and breakfast always provided the fuel for the day. Great stay for a small portion of the price the mountain resort charged. Will return again!

Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean. The fireplace and balcony made it extra cozy. The pool area is cool with an indoor/outdoor pass through, and the staff was very pleasant. It is ideally located within walking distance of downtown, and you even pass the historic Grant House on the way. There is a kid-friendly pizza across the parking lot and an inn next door that has a nice Irish Pub and other shops. Very pleasantly surprised by this affordable little gem!

We planned a last minute trip to Galena during the holiday season. Based on reviews on Trip Advisor, we booked a night at the Best Western Designer Inn & Suites. What a great place! The rates were extremely reasonable. The room was very spacious and very clean. Rooms have been updated so they were very nice and comfortable. Joshua at the front desk was so helpful and gracious - we were very impressed. We took a room on the backside of the building and are very glad we did. It had a balcony with two chairs facing a wooded area. Even though it was the the last day of November, we were able to spend time on the balcony without any jackets or coats on and have a nice relaxing beverage. It is very peaceful on that side of the building, which was nice after walking around downtown all afternoon. Will definitely stay her again!

This Best Western is clean, friendly staff and a good location to downtown if visiting Galena, IL. It is right on Highway 20, so if truck noise bother you, ask for a room in the back of the hotel. My wife is a light sleeper, so this could be important. It's just minutes from downtown Galena, and if you enjoy historic downtowns, Galena a great place to visit. We used the exercise room, had a nice breakfast at the hotel and enjoyed the visit.

My wife and I were looking for a nice place to stay in Galena Illinois. We did a search on the net and found this place. We checked in and went to our nice, clean room. It had a small balcony that we might have enjoyed if it was warmer. I would definitely recommend this place. We would like to come back during the summer to spend more time in Galena.

We stayed in the Crystal Cave fantasy suite. It was very clean and cozy. It was such a nice experience. Breakfast the next morning was delicious. I can't say enough good things about this hotel. Very enjoyable.

This stay was leaps and bounds better than our previous stay. They were going through construction at the time and it was a mess. Breakfast was either cold or not all of it was out. This time everything was completed and looked great.

Surprised my husband with a stay in one of the designer suites - the Cave room - for his Birthday - he loved it. Very unique and nicely decorated - very comfortable. Definitely will be back to check out the other designer suites.

My husband and stayed in the Pearl room. It was priced extremely reasonable, so, I didn't know what to expect. The room was amazing and service was great. I especially loved the shower. The room had everything you would need; such as: microwave and fridge, and more. My husband and I will be going back again.

We really enjoyed the Best Western in Galena. The beds were comfortable. The hotel was quiet for sleeping. It is very close to downtown Galena but probably not walking distance for most people. We are lifetime platinum members of Marriott and don't normally stay in Best Westerns. We come very year to the Halloween parade and definitely will consider staying here again next year. We liked the young staff at the front desk. Someone even offered to get us chairs for the parade if we hadn't brought our own.

This hotel recently was remodeled but needs work. The room smelled of cigarette smoke, a light bulb in the bathroom was out the whole time and there were wrappers under the sofa and bed. Would find another place to stay next time.

The hotel staff are very caring and accommodating, they are very in tune with what guests need. The building itself is very clean and almost doesn't feel like a "chain" hotel service. It is quaint and the rooms are decorated to fit the area. Definitely will be staying here again whenever we visit! Loved out experience!

My room looked like a log cabin inside. It came complete with wooden rockers, and a picture of Abe Lincoln. It also had a totally modern flat screen tv, and more importantly a beautifully equipped bathroom despite the 'outhouse moon' on the door.

Honestly, I could give this hotel zero stars if that was an option. My husband and I had the worst experience with this hotel. We made reservations around 8 months ago for a wedding this past weekend. When we called originally, we wanted to book Saturday night only, however they told us that there was a two night minimum for around $79 a night. We reluctantly booked, only to find out on our way down there that they had only booked us for ONE NIGHT. Friday night. Not sure how that's possible since there was a two night minimum. The guy on the phone was completely unapologetic and told us "everywhere else is booked up." We drove 5 and a half hours to attend a wedding and didn't even have a place to stay for the night of the wedding! We wouldn't have even stayed Friday night originally if it weren't for this hotel. PLUS, our room ended up being around $150 dollars, instead of the $79 we booked it for. We received no confirmation email at the time of booking, so I didn't even have any proof that the price was lower. Additionally, we couldn't get anyone to talk to us about the issue and try to fix it. We haven't heard from a manager and everyone who works there is either 16 or doesn't have the authority to do anything. We want a refund and an explanation on how we could book a MANDATORY two night stay and only get the night we didn't need out of it... Aside from the situation, the rooms were dirty and falling apart and breakfast was horrible. Definitely not worth the $150 a night.

I go to Galena every fall. Have stayed at several different hotels. BW had the best price. Very clean. Have stayed there before. This time the bed was different. Way to soft. I don't know if they changed them. Have been comfortable in past. Hope they did not change them throughout the hotel!! Great value.

Booked a fantasy suite for two night, the decor and amenities were outstanding. Only issue was hotel staff did not check on room after the first night. Hotel is close to downtown Galena and a short distance from Blaum Brothers Distillery. Will be going back to this Hotel in the future.

Everything was great, except for the unsecured slow wifi. Then the power when out at 5am on the day of checkout so we had to leave early as we were told it would be hours to fix. Then a question came up on my room charge and when I realized it, I called. The owners were not available but I was told Amy would call me back, that was 5 days ago. Won't go back there.

We stayed in a Fantasy suite during our stay. It was amazing. The staff was amazing and very helpful. I would recommend this hotel and would stay here again. Everything was very clean!!! We also stayed in a regular room with a king size bed. That room was amazing as well. The water in the shower was nice. We didn't get run out of hot water at all and the beds were so comfortable. I slept well which is not something I do in hotels often. Definitely give this hotel 5 STARS!!

Besides the garbage cans were over flowing to the floor at the breakfast area and no one seemed to care about it, overall experience was good. Our room (not one of those “designs” rooms) was surprisingly huge. Bathroom appeared to be remodeled recently as it was very clean and new looking. We enjoyed the stay.

The Best Western Designer Inn & Suites is located on US Highway 20 about a half mile from the US Grant historic home and a mile from the center of downtown Galena, Illinois. It is an easy walk down to the hill to US Grant home and downtown Galena. Walking back up the hill to the hotel is a little harder than walking down. This hotel is also within easy walking distance to an Irish pub and a pizza joint. It has regular room and also has fantasy rooms. I stayed here with my wife in mid-August and generally enjoyed staying there and thought it was a nice hotel. We stayed in an ordinary room and it cost $192 per night plus $21 in taxes. We made our reservation late so there were only a couple of hotel choices left. I think I got the last room in this hotel (so I don't think we got the best deal). Our room was on the 3rd floor but it looks like the 2nd floor since the hotel sits on a hill. Our large room had 2 queen beds and a small balcony that looked over the hill and woods in the back. Overall I enjoyed this nice hotel and recommend it. Highlights include its convenient location to downtown Galena and the free breakfast (which was pretty good).

We stayed in one of the fanatasy suites and had a wonderful time. The room was beautiful and the amenties were endless. Sauna, hot tub and a fabulous shower all in the room. We are already planning our next trip!

We planned a 3 day stay in Galena. Hotel was close to Galena and the attractions and restaurants we planned to visit. We had the (indoor/outdoor) pool and hot tub all to ourselves. Nice breakfast every morning, they change things up each morning. Rooms are clean and quiet.

Hotel was a nice surprise as to how clean it was. Staff was extremely helpful every time we had a question. Room was large and fireplace was a nice touch. Room faced the wooded area to rear and sitting on patio was quiet. Convenient to downtown Galena and restaurants and historical sites.

Rooms were very clean. The hotel is well located near restaurants, bars, gas station and oh yes, a distillery. The staff was very courteous and professional. The indoor/outdoor pool was very fun and well maintained.

Room wasn't ready at check in time. No elevator so you will have to drag your luggage up and down stairs and also for breakfast. Room was just very average, comfortable enough but price is way too much for this room.

We stayed for 1 night so we did not use all the amenities available. We looked at the pool and workout room but did not have time to use them. They seemed clean and well maintained. What we did in the hotel was use the in room hot tub which was very clean and worked well. Nice break from the endless walking you do in Galena. Had everything we needed to make the stay comfortable. Bathroom was clean and had more than enough towels. The room had a gas fireplace which worked but was not needed for this time of the year. Coffee pot worked (EXTREMELY important for me :) ). Hotel breakfast was good. Everything was fresh and was a good start for our morning. Bed was too soft for me (personal preference) but was still clean and comfortable. The check in/out went fast and easy. We even had a trainee checking us in and she did a fine job with our account. All in all it was a good stay and we will stay there again,

Located close to attractions but in a quiet part of town. The hotel was clean and quiet. The beds were comfy and all the staff was nice. Unfortunately the hot tub was broken when I was there but I told the front desk & it was fixed the next day. They were very attentive & nice enough to let us check in early. If I'm ever in the area again I'll be staying here

Would highly recommend the Fantasy suites for couples wanting to get away for a romantic weekend. Very good breakfast and great location that is not too far from lots of tourist sites. Clean rooms and facilities. Not the greatest staff. Only encountered one friendly staff person; all others only did the minimum they needed to do and were not very accommodating.

We had a large room #317 that faced the road(route 20). The semi trucks use this route constantly and there is an in incline in the road. The semi's gear up or down here for the change in speed limit also. Lots of truck noise. The stairs are the steepest i have used since visiting Tibet and not very deep. Our room was large and the king bed comfortable The bathroom was as small as could be made with almost no counter space at the sink which was in the room with the tub/shower and toilet. The staff was efficient and friendly and the breakfast was decent, they need more tables. All in all a mixed bag and I probably will not return.

We enjoyed our one night stay here. Check in was easy, room was clean and we were close to parking. Rooms have two entries on lobby level, one from hallway and one from outside. Rooms are very large. Pool and hot tub are very good, best of our trip and this was the midrange of prices we paid. Breakfast was nothing special, but it was free, hot and several options. Would definitely stay again!

The hotel was clean and looked like it had new carpet and fresh paint. The employees were professional. The breakfast had a nice variety, but the eggs were like rubber. The beds and pillows were awful! The pillows were small (4 lined up next to each other did. It cover the width of the king size bed) and lumpy. The bed was uncomfortable. It didn't matter where you laid on the bed it was uncomfortable.

There were 4 of us: 3 adults and a 3 year old. We got a suite with a separate bedroom for the child and his father which left the large room with the biggest king ed: we couldn't hold hands in bed! Good pool: indoor and outdoor,plus spa. Generous breakfast. Well situated for visiting the town.

We have stayed here every year for several years, and once again, it was even better than the year before. The owners of this hotel have obviously gone to great lengths to make everything great, and they are succeeding. They've even given the place a total overhaul, and it's beautiful while still being inviting and relaxing. As always, management and staff were very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast is always good, and the room is clean and well stocked with plenty of clean towels and some very nice amenities. The bed is always extremely comfortable, and the shower is perfect (something that is very important to me). We enjoy having our morning coffee out on the little balcony outside the room, too. This is just a very comfy, relaxing place to stay, and all at such a reasonable price.

Room was spacious, wonderful Jacuzzi. the indoor- outdoor pool was very nice. Breakfast was delicious Room looked clean at first, but there were wrappers and dirt under the bed. Good location for touring Galena and Mississippi River .

Pretty nice place. Much better than I expected. Breakfast was plentiful and pretty good. Staff was friendly and the place was clean. The room was nice and up to date. The hotel is within walking distance of Grant's home and up the hill from downtown Galena.

We enjoyed our stay here in Galena. Lots of room and a decent breakfast to get us on our way. Really needs an elevator for the top floor....... the stairs are a bit difficult to lug suitcases up. Within walking distance to Happy Joes pizza parlor and Frank O'Dowd's Irish pub

Only because of our first day this was not 5 stars. To start with we had a king room, these are only on second floor with no elevator so keep this in mind if you have a lot of luggage. We only found this out at check in. They had a special request section on website prior to booking. I requested king room closest to front door and pool. I have a bad knee. There is no mention on their site about it being only on the second floor. We ended up on the other side of hotel. We asked the front desk for help and was told only "It would be a big hassle for them to rearrange the rooms" We had to be one of the first to check and was staying for 3 nights in which that baffled me a bit. The only solution from them was to upgrade us for about $40 more per night, we passed. Room was great microwave and fridge in the room, cable and free wifi. Really big room we were in 307 and was told was one of their largest ones. Extremely clean was really impressed by that. Only negative is bathroom sink areas are pretty small. But one can shower while the other gets ready easily. They have a small but cozy hot tub and nice sized indoor pool that lets out to a small but very cool outside pool. It is in back of hotel with lots of trees around it. The pool was filled with twigs and bugs, we asked the girl at the front desk if we could have pool cleaned. She let us know their maintenance guy was not around and not sure if he was coming in that day. Unacceptable no matter where pool is should be cleaned daily! We lost a day at the pool and was our biggest reason for booking there. Other than that, The whole place was very clean and tidy. After getting ready for dinner we stopped at the front desk to explain the pool situation, there we encountered the Manager, after explaining what happened with the pool. We asked if it would be cleaned for the next day, she was quite dry and almost rude and answered "Im hoping so" unacceptable once again especially from the Manager. The breakfast was really good 2 days and just so so for 2. But I also believe it is free so really should never complain. Night time desk guy Fritz as well as the ladies on 2nd and 3rd day and all of the housecleaning ladies were Awesome! Overall very clean place, very quiet and a great value. They lets us check out all the suites they have. Most are themed and have saunas in them, very, very cool. We will go back and next time get a suite. Too bad first day was crappy but overall very good place to stay. Hope this helps our fellow travelers.

Room was like from the eighties. Themed room? Mattress way way too soft, wore out? Room smell like mildew... pool was dirty. On the good side breakfast was fairly good. Housekeeper was nice. Good location.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a night prior to meeting friends at Eagle Ridge for the weekend. The hotel was very close to downtown/Main Street, so we were able to walk to and from restaurants and shopping. Further, the walk was a scenic walk past a cemetery and Ulysses Grant's home. The hotel was very affordable, and the rooms were large. Each room had a balcony, and ours overlooked woods in the back of the hotel. The hotel also has a pool and continental breakfast. VERY good price and ideal location!!

Hotel service and room size exceptional. We had a balcony overlooking a woodsy area which was quiet and the room and amenities were beyond expectations. Location terrific and close to downtown. A very helpful front desk.

Friendly Staff, Breakfast was good and met expectations, but breakfast area is in the lobby and was quite crowded. Room was quite nice, but on the second floor, and had to lug suitcases up and down them because they have no elevator. Traffic noise was noticeable until later in the evening. Would I stay there again? Probably not, but the room was in our price range and served its purpose.

Needed getaway and decided at spur of the moment, Very happy with our choice of hotels loved the room and the balcony was a beautiful surprise, Having a refrigerator in the room was a nice twist to the room used it

We reserved a room at the senior rate. That should have been a clue that we are old people and maybe not able to lug our luggage up three flights of stairs. They assigned us to a room on the third floor anyway and they don't have an elevator. They claimed the only other choice we had was a room next to the office that everyone said was very noisy. I asked them to just cancel and luckily, we found another suitable hotel.

The hotel was in a great location with shops and restaurants nearby. The staff was very pleasant providing directions and advice for parking. The room was decorated nicely, very clean and convenient to the entrance, lobby and pool. It was a great anniversary get-away and we will most definitely be back.

We stayed in one of the Fantasy Suites. It was a quick get-a-way, but so worth the trip! My husband and I felt so relaxed and cozy in the Pearl of the Sea suite. Everyone was very helpful in checking in and answering any questions we had. We are already planning our return trip. The suite was clean and very well kept.

I think got the last room available in Galena, but what a happy coincidence it was this one. Clean, charming room, close to two restaurants and a gas station. Awesome free breakfast too! I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

The hotel is your average hotel. Nothi g fancy, but not horrible. It's in a central location and within walking distance of some shops and a gas station. The room had a funky kind of smell like someone had been smoking in it, despite the non smoking policy.

The two room suite was very nice for our purposes. Beds were very comfortable. Nice indoor/outdoor pool. Breakfast was nice also. Waffles, eggs, cereal, fruit, breads, etc... The staff was very helpful and informative also.

We decided to stay here and take a cab into town which was only minutes away. We wanted to shop at some shops in town and do some drinking at the bars / resturants. I highly recommend Desoto's and Fried Green Tomatoes for restuarants to eat at.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay, the Hotel was very clean. Our room was large with a balcony the furniture in room looked new. The staff was very friendly and the continental breakfast was great! There was a indoor/outdoor pooll. We will stay again.

Made reservations for 4 nights. Thought this was a "modern" inn. There is no elevator and only 2 handicapped parking spaces. Since I am recovering from a broken leg, I a, unable to do more than 2 stairs. Our "reserved" room was, of course, on the second floor. When we exlaimed my problem, the desk clerk did so,e rearranging and assigned us to a room on the 1 st floor. After we broight in our belomgings, we got a call from the fromt desk that we could only have the room for 3 nights, instead of 4, since our current room was "booked" and no other 1st floor rooms were available. Shouldn't their website state the motel is non ADA friendly as in no elevator available for handicapped people? When asked why not ADA compliant, respomse was it is an old motel and didn't apply to this establishment, really need to place notice on website about this. Also unable to use pool as down 15 stairs or so. Could ise of wanted to deive car don back drive to door by pool but otherwise take stairs. Breakfast advertised as 6-10, in reality 6-9. Too many discrepancies. So disappointed.

Staff at the front desk was very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable of the surrounding area. Breakfast was as we expected, and Staff made sure coffee pots were full and fresh throughout the day and evening, and always willing to assist with anything we needed. We even talked with the owner, as he was tending the pool area. He made us feel like we were family. Our room was at the back of hotel, with a balcony overlooking a well kept lawn and some woods. An extra bonus! Rooms were equipped with a refrigerator and microwave, for added convenience. Overall a Great Experience at an affordable price! We will definitely stay here again!

Whether on business or vacation you cant beat the value in this hotel. Large rooms very clean with balconies where you can sit and unwind. You get to leave with something in your stomach and their is a fitness center along with a pool.

Outside appearance was disappointing. When pulling up we were a little skeptical. This was a girls trip and after reading all about the Galena we weren't sure if this was the hotel described. Outside appearance could improve. No elevator! Small pool areas. Overall ok

This place beat the Choice hotels I've recently stayed at (at other locations). Walls are thin, but clientele is older so the noise level dropped at night time. Breakfast nook is cramped, but food quality was good.

This was not the first stay at B W Quiet Suites in Galena IL We were all pleased with service and friendliness of staff and had no complaints. We did not use the fitness room but enjoyed use of the swimming pool. Our room was taken care of each day to our satisfaction.

You never know what to expect with Best Western but this one is trying hard. They have remodeled the outside already. The staff was pleasant, the beds comfortable and the breakfast was good. My only suggestion would be to vacuum the halls and stairs more frequently.

I loved this hotel. The outside and inside has all been redone and it's fresh and clean. The staff is friendly and had great recommendations for the area. We came for a getaway with our family and had a wonderful time. Would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Galena, want to come back soon. Thank you for a nice stay! Well done Best Western!

The room was very spacious and clean. The hotel staff was very helpful and so nice. We have stayed in a lot of hotels and I would say this is the nicest staff we have encountered. The breakfast was great. The parking lot was good size.

I have stayed in hotels hundreds of dollars more expensive and have never had a better experience then here. The rooms were updated and modern, hotel staff was friendly, and the view of the forest behind my room was calm and peaceful, especially early in the morning. I will definitely be back to this one.

My daughter and I left the hotel. Thankfully our room was credited back to account. Literally in the basement- musty, dark, moist. Worms found in the open near bed. No elevator. Stairs with large suitcase. I'm disabled. Disappointing!!

We enjoyed the cave themed suite. It was very well done. Clean. Balcony was nice. Lots of amenities in the room. Comfortable. We had a really fun time staying here and would come back, especially in the fall or winter so we could utilize the in room sauna or fireplace.

We stopped here on our way home. Aesthetically very pleasing, large room. Our room has a balcony facing the rear of building and on it we were greeted by an old ash tray from a previous guest. In the bathroom, looks very nice until you see a old hair scrunchie on the light fixture. Beds are springy and well used.

The worst hotel, customer service and hospitality nonexistent ,The Village of Galena is wonderful; But the Housekeeping service was the worst, the sheets were never changed in my stay at the hotel, at a time when personally one of the housekeeper asked me, if the sheets needed to be change and I said yes, especially because I accidentally I spilled a green smoothie and stained the bed sheets and She, just made faces and said ok I'll, but she never did. My third day staying at the hotel: They, didn't even clean the room at all. The breakfast was excellent and the service lady very friendly,courteous and polite. Housekeeping service the worst... The bed skirt were all broken, in the Beth room light fixture some elastic hairband and the fixture all dusty and dirty. Because the hotel have these easel signs SAVE OUR PLANET, I am completely onboard with the idea, the only problem is that if you spilled your drink on the bed sheets, you needed to be changed. Also I am not at an motel, I paid for the service and they didn't gave it to me for free, I paid for it. I really love the location of the hotel it is very convenient, close to downtown and pretty much amazing location!!! The only drawback was the customer service of the housekeepers. Because the customer service in the front desk is amazing and like I mentioned before the breakfast lady Amazing customer service and hospitality!!!! Is the only reason that I gave it a 1 star out of 5 And it is upsetting, because I checked the reviews before I booked my staying, And it were great.

We were happy that we chose this hotel. Spent one night only, our purpose of the trip was to explore Galena. Room was a nice size, our room had a deck facing the back (would recommend versus facing the parking lot). Bed was on the very soft side. Even though the hotel was full we never heard any noise from any guests. They did have an outside pool which we didn't have a chance to use. Breakfast was just your basic continental breakfast, nothing special. Would definitely stay there again, for the price it was well worth it.

We stayed in Best Western hotels in past so we picked it for our weekend spend at Galena - the historical city we always enjoy. The hotel was in construction mode. The room was spacious and comfortable. We didn't like the fact that this hotel has no elevator and also we were disappointed with breakfast - the selection and quantity of it.

Very friendly & helpful staff! Tornado & severe storms were approaching & the young man at the front desk helped us get our bags in & to our room & made sure we knew where to go if the storms came through!

We had the king fireplace room. The room is very large with a sitting area. The room was exceptionally clean. Very comfortable bed! Our bathroom sparkled! If you get an opportunity to select your room location, request a room facing the back. Each room on the second floor has a balcony with chairs facing the beautiful woods! A very relaxing place to sit and watch the birds. When we arrived we were greeted immediately by the desk gal who was very pleasant, got us checked in quickly and gave us all the information regarding breakfast, wifi, etc. Breakfast included hot items and was very good. Loved the location! Motel is just beyond Grant's house. You can easily walk to town, Grant's house and Grant Park from here. I HIGHLY recommend!

The bed was a little soft. The shower was wonderful! We really enjoyed the back porch! We were on the back side of the main floor which was ground level in front and second floor in back which worked out well. All of the staff that we encountered were very nice and helpful.

We rate the Best Western Designer Suites "Under The Sea" room the highest rating one can give. It was spacious clean and really gave you the feeling of being under the sea. The shower was huge and the water pressure and temperature was perfect, the whirlpool was clean and worked well, the fish tank in the room was clean and well kept, and the memory foam mattress was extremely comfortable. We thought this was the best all around room we've ever stayed in.

The room was nice and large. We appreciated the shelves in the bath tub to put our soaps on. The beds were very comfortable too and the room had a very nice balcony that you can sit on. Our balcony faced the back tree line. This was a nice space to sit and relax with a glass of wine after a long day shopping. The included breakfast was nice also and the hot food was fresh and hot. Its a small quaint hotel at a reasonable price for the area.

This was a good hotel for traveling, but they have limited staff. No one at desk for check in or out and no one attending breakfast for replenishment. Otherwise all was good, newly renovated clean nice room and the decks off the room were great.

I highly recommend the Best Western Designer Suites in Galena. The accommodations were wonderful and a very fair price too. Logistically, the location is perfect for sightseeing. I will certainly stay there again.

This hotel was wonderful! The staff was very friendly, great breakfast, clean and spacious rooms, and we took advantage of the indoor/outdoor pool. Extremely close to downtown and historical attractions. A great and fun getaway for me and my daughter that we will never forget.

Not a good place to stay currently. We will not be going back anytime soon. I do not know what Best Western expects from their hotels but this was he worst I have experienced. I read there web site and it did not say a word about the construction going on and staff did not mention it during our reservations. Hope change is coming soon.

Arrived here late at night with no reservations and no cell phone service to check things out. The lady at the front desk must have seen my exhaustion. I got the last room. It had two king beds, a large living room like area with couch, desk, larger than normal refrigerator with microwave on top. The bath was comfortable. Everything was sparkling clean. The bed I chose was comfortable, a rare find. Because there was construction on the exterior, the balcony was unavailable, but I was given a discount due to that without asking. The pool and whirlpool were also made more accessible to me by receiving a keycard programmed to give me access to two entries, one near my room and one near the pool.

We stay here every time we are in Galena and love it! Decided to splurge on Pearl under the Sea room and it was AMAZING! Fresh look and the sauna and Jacuzzi were so relaxing! Fish tank put it over the top. Only downside, breakfast is included but if you sleep in until 9:00 there is very little left. Next time we are trying the Cave room.

Updating going on and the place looks great. Places to eat and drink just steps away. Great staff and priced right. Recommend staying there when in the area. Lots of things to do in Galena if you have never been there. They also have a really nice 4th of July celebration and a rodeo which is also good.

This Best Western met our traveling needs for a quick stop in Galena, Nothing extraordinary or anything unique to the Galena area but located on the outskirts of town within easy driving distance (but not walking) distance of Galena attractions or downtown shops and restaurants. Our room had been updated, clean, and reasonably priced. Complimentary breakfast was standard for similar hotel chains. If you are looking for quaint accommodations you might want to check out the area bed and breakfasts instead. If you just want an easy stop and place to spend the night, this is fine.

Hotel was located close to everything we wanted to see. Hotel staff was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Value was excellent. Joshua at front desk helped us with recommendations on area restaurants, gave us extra pillows and the much needed corkscrew

We visited during spring break, and thought the price was pretty reasonable. Because of that, I was expecting a fairly standard, low-cost decor. The room was clean and cute, with that cabin theme throughout. The pool has an indoor/outdoor feature, which was fun for my daughter, who had never swam outside when there was snow on the ground. The breakfast was typical but good. The only "complaint", (using the term loosely) was the lack of space in the dining area. All in all, a good stay.

After staying in a Best Western in Black River Falls, WI we tried another Best Western in Galena, IL. The motel is being remodeled through out and mostly completed. Rooms were well provided and easily to access with seniors who needed easy in and out. I used the fitness room and found the machines lacking and not working. The breakfast bar has nutritious options, almond milk and make your own granola.

My friend and I stayed at the Best Western Designer Inn and Suites with 3 kids over a weekend. We were greeted by very friendly staff at the desk. Our room was on the main floor and we had a door from our room out to the parking lot, which was very convenient when traveling with 3 kids. The room was very clean and recently updated. The pool is an indoor/outdoor pool, the kids had so much fun swimming in and out of the building. The hot tub was warm and inviting. The hotel also has a breakfast each morning, and not just a typical "continental breakfast". They had oatmeal, eggs, and "make your own" waffles. The hotel is conveniently located close to all the Galena attractions. You'll have a great stay at this hotel.

My fiance and I stayed in the fantasy suite "Pearl Under the Sea" and it was amazing! The lighting and the decor of the room were wonderful! Everything was clean and laid out for us. The breakfast was better than we hoped for as well. All staff were courteous and pleasant to talk with. We immediately booked for our anniversary the following year on our way out! We are looking forward to returning next year! Thank you for the wonderful memories!

The room was very clean. We had a room on the lower level so we had easy access to the parking lot through the patio. The indoor pool is awesome with an extension that goes outside the hotel. our kids loved it. There is a hot tub for adults to relax. Towels are provided. Breakfast was amazing with a wide variety of choices including waffles, egg, sausage ,oatmeal ,cereals etc. The housekeeping staff were very nice and friendly . We would definitely stay here again.

I must admit I was frightened when we first pulled into the parking lot. The front facade was completely torn off the building. We slowly crept out of our car and cautiously approached the front door (I was already googling other places to stay) and walked inside. We were quite surprised, actually relieved, that the inside was clean. The front desk employee reassured us that the room we were staying is was not receiving facade work. Phew! Our room was really quite nice. We had a fireplace, a balcony and couch. We thought we just booked a room with a bed, we were very happy with the room we received. I also never heard the construction while in our room. My boyfriend said the continental breakfast was good. We will definitely being staying here again! Great location to downtown Galena and not a far drive to Chestnut ski resort.

Very nice and clean! Customer service awesome! Rooms were cool too! Only a few bad things. .. it was very loud all night long sounded like someone was slamming drawers shut all night long above us (a Sunday night) lasted until after 2 am. The pool was nice but a lot of bugs in the outside pool and the hot tub didn't have working jets! Be careful in the room Omg HEADACHE. .... every time I got out or in bed it seemed like I smacked the back of my head on the board! It curves and Omg it's at a level where you'll totally smuck your head at least once lol honestly by the time we left my head was killing me I hit it 4 times once was so hard it was bleeding. They should have something on those corners you'll see what I mean if you're in the room trust me! Otherwise very nice!

I do not recommend staying here, they remodeled but it still is lacking. The bathroom is very small, I don't know why they didn't enlarge the br, there is plenty of room. No decent plug ins for the phone by the bed, I am sitting on the sofa so I can plug my phone into the wall so I can use it while it is recharging, I would rather be laying on the bed. Also not enough lighting for this large room and I asked, they have no more lamps.

Don't be fooled by the outside remodeling they are doing. This is a great property. We stayed in a standard king room and is was huge, immaculate and quiet. We had a room facing a beautiful wooded ravine and enjoyed it from the balcony. No elevator but nice wide staircase. Nice breakfast, in & out pool plus a jacuzzi. Staff wasn't over friendly but not rude. Happy Joe's next door has great pizza. Nice proximarity to downtown Galena but not walkable-no sidewalks.

the staff was awesome and very accomodating. the breakfast was hot and varied and very good! they even served us breakfast two hours before the normal start time to accomodate our needs! It was a very nice stay!

We needed a weekend away and this was the best place to go. We stayed in the Crystal Cave and the Pearl room. Our favorite was the Crystal Cave. We will definitely go back. The staff was very helpful from the time we checked in until the time we checked out.

Very comfortable and located near all of the historic sites and the downtown area. Was impressed with the breakfast selections. Offered complimentary paper and the motel was quiet. Not far from Grant's home. Avoid Monday- its not open.

Great clean an modern place! Clean rooms, GREAT breakfast and reasonable room charges. Just remodeled and very up to date. Great staff and comfortable beds. The rooms, on the Southside, have nice balconies to stand or sit and relax as you look into the woods.

I made a last minute reservation here for an overnight stay while I was passing through. The rooms were clean, they had continental breakfast (good variety of options), the room was quite large, had a sofa, fridge, couch, etc. I did find the room somewhat noisy. I was across the hall from a stairwell going down to the pool area and directly next to the front desk. It could use some sound proofing and a quieter door going to the lower level. The wifi was a bit of a challenge to connect to - the webpage wouldn't load and took about 10 minutes of messing with it to get it to work.

Clean, updated, and close to downtown Galena. I was pleasantly surprised by the fresh updates and cleanliness of this motel. Never would have thought a Best Western could be this pleasant with big rooms, decent breakfast, and close proximity to Galena. Plus, a budget conscious property that takes well-behaved dogs!

My husband and I stayed in the crystal caves suite here and it was amazing. Beautifully hand decorated, lights above the bed making you feel like your looking at the stars, sauna, jacuzzi, and the shower is beyond words. Has a massaging shower with jets that can target specific points of your body with a push of a button and a waterfall top shower head. Also has another very big circle shower head for your partner to shower while you also shower. Lots of room in their also. Love this room. Excited to stay in the Pearl under the Sea next! Highly recommended

Came for a weekend getaway. Easy to find. Just up the road from Galena. Josh at the front desk was awesome and friendly and helpful. Room was clean and was better than one we stayed in(different hotel).

My jewelry box somehow ended up under the bed. When I contacted the hotel several days later, it was in their safe and promptly returned to me. After being the victim of an in-house theft at a 5-star in the past, I love to find such honest employees.

Unfortunately we had to cancel our stay. I booked with booking.com and followed their procedure. It wasn't working right so i phoned the hotel and talked to Dakota. He was very helpful and said i could phone back in the morning to talk to a manager. So i phoned in the morning and talked to Lynette, im not sure if sure was the manager, but boy am i glad i talked to her! We weren't charged for our rooms and hope to make it out there another time.

Check-in was smooth and quick, and the front desk clerk was friendly. The location is convenient to downtown Galena, and there's a family pizza restaurant just across the parking lot. Our room was large and relatively quiet with a small outdoor balcony. No elevator is a pain when you have a bunch of luggage, the stairway is so steep, and the ice machine on your floor is broken. The breakfast was better than average for a hotel of this size. The shower curtain liner was too long and dragged on the bottom inside of the tub. Loved the "clean" remote. Our biggest disappointment was the pilllows. They are lumpy, square and uncomfortable. We'd consider staying here again, but would bring our own pillows.

Clean, roomy & somewhat remodeled. Fair price for the area. Close to Main Street shopping, although driving there helps bring the shopping bags home. This last visit we experienced some noise in the room above us. But overall, a good stay.

This Best Western is undoubtedly the most conveniently located and reasonably priced of the chain motels in Galena being five minutes from their downtown area for shopping and doing touristy type things. We had hoped for a handicapped accessible room but opted for a first floor room with both an interior door and a door which opened to the parking area which was great for moving in and out. Rooms are quite large, clean and fresh and well appointed. Great breakfast with hot entrees. We look forward to returning to the Galena Area and will definitely stay at this Best Western

We spent one night and found the room very clean, large and comfortable. Nice large easy chair with ottoman, desk and chair, wonderful mattress and great new bathroom. Very large room and perfectly clean. Would definitely go back.

This relatively-new hotel is located outside of the historical Galena downtown district, but only about a half mile away. Our room was quite large and had a balcony overlooking a wooded ravine behind the building. The second and third floor rooms in the rear all had a similar balcony. The front rooms overlook the parking lot. The room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. An added bonus was the sofa in our room. It made it extra comfortable for watching TV. The breakfast was excellent. The staff is friendly and offered helpful suggestions for those visiting the area.

After numerous trips to Galena to visit friends and sightseeing, we decided to stay overnight. We chose the Best Western Designer Inn, do to its proximity to downtown Galena and where our friends lived. A very nice place to stay. They have gone through some remodeling from what we understand. WOW, looks nice and they still are doing odds and ends. The room we stayed in was very clean and roomy. The Inn staff was very pleasant and helpful. They have a free breakfast in the morning. I expected the usual, coffee, juice and dried out bagels and rolls. NOT HERE! We had a choice of bacon, eggs, pepper-potatoes and eggs. Waffles, toast, juices fruits and the coffee. Hey the BEST coffee I have had in a long time. Best Western out did themselves here. The rest of the hotel was very clean also. They have an indoor and outdoor pool. The stay for us was also in celebration of our wedding anniversary. Very nice. I cannot say enough great things about the hotel. If you are traveling with your family or as a couple, I would recommend the Best Western Designer Inn not only for how nice it is but at a very reasonable and affordable price.

My bride and I stayed here for our fall visit to Galena! We stayed in a regular room! King bed!! Nice sized tv! We spent most of our time exploring Galena so we just needed an adequate place to sleep, which this very much was! We enjoyed the walk out balcony! Our room was clean and our bathroom was spotless! We toured the crystal cave room and definitely will consider this unique room for our next trip! Morning complimentary breakfast was good! Adequate choices for all! Staff was friendly and helpful! This hotel is nothing fancy! But we found it to be a comfortable and clean place for a good night sleep! I recommend it for that!

This is one of the nicer hotels that I've stayed at. I'm the kind of person that looks for deals to find a place to rest my head and I definitely found it here! Large room with balcony, comfortable beds/pillows, large bathroom, nice hot tub, nice indoor/outdoor pool, nice breakfast.

A friend of mine stayed here. They loved it. They had a beautiful suite. I wanted something special for them because it was their anniversary. Shannon helped me leave a gift for them in their room. They were thrilled. I plan on staying here the next time I'm in town.

Hotel was easy to find and 5 minutes away from Main street shopping. The hotel was clean and beds were comfortable. Ask for a room in the back of the hotel and away from the ice machine. If you don't mind hearing the people above you walking around the lower floor is fine. We had a room in the back of the hotel so the view from the private balcony was nice. The staff could use a lesson in customer service since we felt like we were brothering them when we checked in, and the breakfast is free, but, I would find a different place to eat.

The staff was helpful from suggestions when registering to use the website to get a discount to giving honest feedback on where to eat and what to do. Still some work to be done but a very nice room minutes from town. Would return and recommend this hotel.

This hotel has nice, roomy rooms, free hot breakfast, indoor/outdoor pool, hot tub. Plenty of close parking. You can get private balcony. Ask for one on back side or you'll be looking at parking lot. You may see deer in the evening, out back. My only complaint is that the floors must be 1 inch thick as you can hear those above you stomping, walking back and forth all evening (or the one above us did). This is disturbing to say the least. I've never heard this in a hotel before. But, location is close to Grant's Home and not too far from the downtown area. Price is good also.

My room was very clean and large. The shower was wonderful and beds were comfortable. A variety of food was provided for breakfast. The staff was extremely friendly. I would stay again. good location.

We went here for our 30th wedding anniversary. We reserved the Cave room. It was really nice! We also had 2 gift baskets in the room, one was a gift from a friend the other, I ordered for the room. They were both in the room as requested at check in. Room was perfect!

If you have any problem with stairs, be sure to ask for the main floor. You can get to the pool/hot tub level if you drive don and park by the lower level door. the room was clean, and the hotel was quiet which is all you need since you spend the days in downtown area walking it seems uphill all the time.

We booked this hotel because it was Best Western and it lived up to our expectations and BW quality. Room was clean and quiet. We liked having refrig. & microwave in room. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Only downside was breakfast area was small and crowded and breakfast was mediocre, but adequate. Hotel is convenient to Galena (1/2 mile away) and to Grant's home (even closer).

Upon arriving we were cheerfully greeted by the receptionist. Our accommodations were immaculate; the bathroom was newly remodeled as was the room. We had two extremely comfortable queen-size beds, a large sofa and a small balcony with a gorgeous view overlooking the back of the property. Breakfast was delicious with waffles, sausage, biscuits and gravy, cereal, fruit muffins and juices. Our stay definitely exceeded our expectations and we will certainly be returning.

We booked this room because Best Western was fairly close to downtown Galena and it had a pool. As it turned out we did not have time to use the pool. The location was convenient to downtown Galena (less than five minute drive) and to the casinos in Dubuque (about 15 - 20 minutes). We did not spend much time in the hotel so I cannot comment too much on the services and amenities. They did provide a hot breakfast bar which was nice.

Very convenient to Main Street. Room was very clean and service was great, even got clean towels when we didn't order them. Nice touch! Breakfast was adequate for what we wanted. Pool and fitness center very clean. Since the hotel is under renovation, we found our room to smell a little musty when we first walked in. I feel confident that will change upon completion.

Beautiful room! Walk in, jetted shower, fireplace, balcony, what more could you ask for? How about a circular bed with stars on the ceiling? This is a designer room. Very Happy! Everyone here very nice and polite.

We had a great stay, the staff was friendly and helpful. There was an indoor/outdoor pool which was really fun, also a whirlpool. Pool temperture was great. Hot breakfast was good with lots of choices. Room was big and very clean, looked like everything was newly updated. We look forward to staying again.

My daughter and I were taking a road trip. We spent some time in Iowa and decided to drive home through Galena, IL. I have spent time with my husband in Galena and I wanted my daughter to see how quaint it is. I had previously stayed at the Best Western Designer Inn & Suites and had a wonderful stay the first time, so why mess with something that works well for you. We were not disappointed!!! The room was very clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helped me remember the awesome restaurant I had eaten at before! The continental breakfast was very nice!!! Coffee was just the way I like it and all the breakfast choices were delicious !!! I absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Galena. It was close to the downtown area and we had another great stay!!!

Had an absolutely fabulous stay at this hotel. The rooms and bathrooms are all newly remodeled--beautiful and large! The staff was welcoming and helpful. I loved the hot daily breakfast. It's only a 1/2 mile from Main Street so that is a plus. Very clean. Will definitely stay again. I recommend this hotel!

I am a 49 year old disabled person. I ask for the disabled room. I also told them that I need access to the pool as I do water therapy EVERY DAY. In MOST hotels, the handicap room is closest to the front desk, breakfast area - near entrance and access to pool. NOPE! I had to have my sister drive me around the building and walk into the lower level of the building to get to the pool. There is no family bathroom with the pool. Dark and gloomy pool area. Hot tub was a death trap. I am able to do a lot as a disabled gent, but they got the hot tub at Montgomery Ward in the 1940's - no deck to it - poor railing use. It was terrible and we stayed for 4 days. We love Galena and will be returning, but will be staying at another property. I checked it out before we left Galena the last time. I also was not informed that they were under construction. There was noting comfortable about this hotel. I did like the Singer sewing machine table the TV was on. LOOK ELSEWHERE!

I was pleasantly surprised to get a suite with a small balcony for the price I usually pay for a room with just a bed and nightstand. The complimentary breakfast was good and the staff did a good job of making sure everything was kept available.

Had a very nice stay, lots of parking, very close to historic downtown. Great price. Our original room faced the parking lot/road. Was a bit noisy and not too appealing even with the balcony. Went to the desk and asked for another room facing the woods, nothing available. By the time I had gotten back to the room, the lady at the desk called to say the had a cancellation and moved us to the back side of the hotel with a nice view of the trees. Sat on the balcony and listened to the owls after touring this really nice historic town. Thanks...will stay here when we return. Only downside is no elevator to the second floor, so keep that in mind when booking.

What a special treat for my husband and I on our 40 year anniversary Bucket List Trip. Booked a hot tub suite not knowing it was a Fantasy Suite. Large room great location not far from shopping downtown. Would highly recommend for a couples shopping and exploring Galena Day!

This is a clean quiet motel, with a nice indoor/outdoor pool. Close to a decent restaurant and considering the area, the price was good. It even has an outdoor balcony. Good value for the money. Nothing fancy, but then again, the room is not the destination.

Right off US 20, the place has ample parking and the room we had was nicely renovated. The breakfast in the mornings is nice, more than just pastries. We had a micro and fridge in our room as well. The pool is indoor and outdoor, but we didn't have time to use it. Clean and much less cost than the B&B's around Galena. We gave it two thumbs up! Oh, the shower head is great!

Room was nice enough. The problem we had is it says its pet friendly and yes you can bring your pets BUT you cannot leave them alone in the room even if they are crated! Which means you have to take them with you whevever you go! Not smart if you go to Main street for shopping. I realize some dogs are barkers but ours are not. I would advise you to either book another hotel or board your dogs at home before coming to Galena...That's what we will be doing.....

I recently stayed at this Best Western... Can I say WOW what a great big room! The rooms were very nice, maid service was wonderful and we even had a fireplace plus a balcony! I wish they had a larger meeting area but we made it work. Location was great to historical Galena.

Friendly service and great value. Upon checki-in we were greeted with a box of chocolates to help celebrate our anniversary. How thoughtful and generous. Clean rooms, good breakfast and wonderful employees!!

Very friendly and clean. Galena to the East and the Mississippi to the west. Stores near by and places to eat. Being right on Highway 20 makes it very to find. Plus the views getting there is breath taking. The park in Iowa on the river was awesome. If your a bird watcher you will love it.

This hotel has been upgraded and the rooms were very nice and clean. Have some that are "themes" and we got the log cabin room. Wish there would of been an elevator. Pool was nice but could of been cleaned a little better. Breakfast was good. All in all, it was a great place to stay.

I stayed at this hotel for my birthday weekend with friends and we had 2 rooms. The shower to our room did not work and the bath tub did not drain- which was pretty gross to think about. When we asked for a solution we were told by management that they cannot do anything for us. Cleaning service told us that there is a room available for us to shower in; however they had cleaned it and did not want us to use it after it had been cleaned... Were they going to offer us to use it dirty??? Manager was supposed to contact me to discuss the issue, I was never contacted. I called the hotel 3 times, never with any resolution or follow up. After the 3rd time I was promised a $20 credit to my credit card (which I never received). $20 credit for a no shower room that cost almost $200 seemed ridiculous, but no one cared to help me any further. The GM never called me or contacted me, which I think is unacceptable for any management to do if their business had an upset guest. I would never recommend this to anyone- not unless you want a shower tub that doesn't drain and backs up dirty water.

This is an older facility that has been upgraded. Each room is somewhat different from the next, rustic but comfortable. We had a large group staying here and the staff was courteous and helpful. Breakfast was pretty good for a small inn too. The inn is conveniently located close to downtown shopping and historical points of interest. The bathroom didn't have as much counter space as I'd have liked and the cord to the coffee maker wasn't long enough to reach the outlet. Other than that, it was great.
