"This is a MUST stay if visiting Americus and planning a visit to Plains to hear Jimmy Carter teach Sunday School."

15/07/2018

We stayed at this hotel on our way to hear Jimmy Carter teach Sunday school in Plains, GA. This is a historic hotel and it is lovely. Great rooms, workout room, wonderful restaurant and bar. It is 15 minutes from Plains. If you plan to see Jimmy Carter...check the church schedule to make sure he is teaching and plan to arrive by 5:15 am!!! It is well worth it. This hotel is a hidden gem with TONS of history behind it.

"Amazing staff and beautiful historic hotel!"

We wanted a place to stay where we could forget about our daily problems, and the Windsor Hotel was perfect! Staff was knowledgeable about the local lore and they were all super friendly and accommodating. I can't say enough good things about Denise, Allie and the manager, Vic!

"Beautiful vintage hotel"

Beds were amazing! This is our 2nd stay in 3 yrs and we loved it for all the same reasons last time! We visit here to see family and it's a great base to plan from.Family often joins us for meals which never disappoint????

"True Original"

We were surprised when we walked into the lobby here. We expected a recreation of a late 1800's motel in downtown Americus, what we found was an original building being restored. We chose this particular location to see nearby family and to visit Andersonville national historical site and wound up spending as much time here as we did with family and site seeing. Great old place, nice staff, and comfortable beds. Not to mention the food and service were just the way I like them. Food was quite good and arrived at the right time. Bar staff was just attentive enough to keep us from going empty.

We stopped in Americus for an evening and just loved it! Interesting history and beautiful carpentry were throughout with a very grand feeling. Couldn't help but think of all that's transpired in the hotel since 1892 and those that came before us. Had a drink outside on the balcony at nightfall. It was really lovely. Breakfast in the restaraunt was an experience; food was good and atmosphere wonderful. Staff were all so nice and helpful. Just loved that we got both an educational/historical experience and a really lovely hotel all in one. We also really enjoyed the Mediterranean grill across the street.

Stayed in this beautiful hotel the night before seeing jimmy carter. The hotel was built in late 1800s and if you love historic hotels you will like this one. The lobby as well as the room was all decorated in the period. The staff was friendly and had no issues with room. Although I did not think the bed and pillow was quite as comfortable as a 5star downtown Atlanta hotel, it was good enough for this hotel which is a very small rural town. My friend stayed at another hotel and this one was much nicer.

"Historical and nice"

Stayed overnight before visiting Former President Jimmy Carter's Sunday School class. We had a group of 10 that stayed at the hotel. Very clean and beautiful antique details but had updated amenities in the rooms. Had coffee maker, microwave, fridge and hair dryer in our room. The staff was very helpful. They give you a sheet of information for visiting the Sunday School class. They suggest to leave there by 5:00. Due to Jimmy Carter cutting back on teaching and the summer months, you need to leave the hotel by 4:00 am!

Not my favorite hotel.....needs renovation. Shutters broken in room, carpet old. TV and a/c didn't work....had to change rooms after unpacking. Hotel Pub a joke. Ate all meals off site. Lobby pretty, outside hotel roof has missing tiles...tacky looking. Staff very nice

"Back in time historical hotel"

We went to see the civil war museum about fifteen minutes away. We decided to say at this historical hotel. The rooms were large and comfortable. The dinning room is elegant. A few cafes in the area. The deli attached to the hotel is great. I want to go back and do more looking around the hotel. Definitely check this hotel out. They don't have a free breakfast as it's a Windsor property.

"A little ghost hunters action going on..."

We have stayed here a couple of times. Beautiful and clean hotel..Look into it's history before you stay! Not going to lie...we did hear some strange activity late at night :) The bar with the deck overlooking the street is nice too...

"Beautiful Historical Hotel"

09/06/2018

I could not get enough of the beautiful historical interior. So much to look at. The rooms are a bit different than typical hotel rooms due to the fact that they were built in the 19th century, but they have been well updated for 21st century guests. No free breakfast, but there is a gorgeous formal restaurant in the hotel with wonderful food at reasonable prices. One of the favorite part of our stays was lounging in the rocking chairs on the 2nd floor balcony. Would love to return sometime.

"A WONDERFUL STAY at the beautiful Best Western Plus Windsor Hotel"

The rooms are beautiful. Small Keurig pots, microwave, small fridge in the rooms. If you love Victorian and antiques you will not go wrong here! Staff is amazing as if the hotel. Wonderful stay! Highly recommend!

We needed a place to stay near Plains Georgia. I am a Best Western member so we spotted this hotel and booked it. It was more than we could've hoped for. Had a great room a great night sleep a fantastic dinner in the restaurant.

"Super charming historic hotel + amazing food"

I've been wanting to stay at the Windsor for years and it exceeded my every expectation! It is visually stunning upon entry to the lobby with restored unique original woodwork, marble tiles, and period chandeliers. Our room was cozy but adequate. Do take the available tour! The building has a fascinating history. The on-site restaurant is extremely good. Top notch creme brulee. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Rates were reasonable. It was a lovely stop on our road trip. I'm glad we didn't miss it. Recommend you don't miss it either!

"A CHARMING AND HISTORIC HIDDEN GEM!"

21/05/2018

What a beautiful and charming hotel located in downtown Americus! As you walk in the hotel you step back in time.... Charming, and historic but modern updates without losing the charm of yesteryear. The rooms were very clean, comfortable and decorated nicely. Located in safe area. Food was amazing! Easy Parking. Service impeccable. We will be back!

"What a treat!"

5
07/05/2018

This renovated hotel was built in the 19th century and was closed for 30 years before it was renovated and re-opened in 2000, I believe. It is an absolutely beautiful hotel. The cost for staying there in a larger city would probably be three times the current rate. It is located downtown and is convenient to restaurants, shopping, etc. The staff is great!

Our journey to Plains and Americus, Georgia, for President Jimmy Carter's Sunday School Class, book~signing, and to regard his history at the Carter childhood farm, train depot, First Lady Rosalynn Carter's childhood home, all in the Plains area~ and Habitat for Humanity offices and projects in Americus~ was lovely, held with immense care by the Maranatha Church and Secret Service staff. Our weekend journey was made deeply sentimental and enjoyable by our stay at the historic Windsor Hotel, with well~refurbished Victorian decor and mood, and a superb Saturday evening dinner at the hotel's lovely restaurant. We would recommend the Windsor, administered by Best Western Hotels, for anyone journeying to the Plains and Americus area. Our stay at the Windsor held us in beautiful sentiment and meaning as we experienced a great, humble man, President Carter, and his beloved wife.

"Unbelievably gorgeous hotel"

02/05/2018

We stumbled on Americus while driving to FL. I couldn't have been more thrilled to stay at this historic place. The original woodwork is amazing, bar and restaurant on the property so you don't have to drive anywhere. I pray this place makes it, there isn't much to do around, but I would go back to just stay put, I wish we had had more time here. The beds and bedding are BETTER than any Hilton. Fantastic staff, fantastic restaurant. GO!

Best hotel ever! I would definitely give this a 10 out of 10! The Victorian décor was outstanding. We ate at the Rosemary and Thyme restaurant and we're talking about the delicious food, the ambiance of the dining room and the great service we received. We were intrigued about the

"Beautiful old building"

25/04/2018

The Windsor is a beautiful, wonderful old building. The floors creak when you walk the halls but it's part of the character of the building. You feel like you have traveled back in time. I stay here often and the staff is very friendly.

This is a beautiful old Victorian hotel in the middle of downtown Americus. I came down to do some research for a lecturing I am doing on Andersonville and wasn't expecting much. But once we arrived I was awestruck at how gorgeous the place was We are already planning a return trip - lovely place to stay!

"Very cool historic hotel"

5
24/04/2018

This is probably one of the coolest hotels I've ever stayed in. We were in town for a wedding, and I picked this hotel partially on reviews and its downtown location, but mostly because I was intrigued by the pictures. I've never stayed in a hotel that is over 100 years old, and how often does an opportunity like that present itself? The 3 concerns I had about staying in a building that old- The air conditioning, the water pressure, the wifi. I may be willing to stay in historical settings. . .but I'm a very modern person that does not “do without” very well at all. As it turns out my 3 concerns were not an issue. Our room had central AC that worked really well, the wifi was a little spotty, but I was able to stream video with no issue most of the time, and the water pressure was great! We checked in late, a little after midnight, and were met with a very friendly front desk that had us all checked in very quickly. We were in 2 rooms, a family of 3 in a chamber suite, and my sister and I in a standard double, all on the 3rd floor. Our room was small, and was directly above the pub and overlooking the street, which I was concerned about at first, but wasn't an issue, we'd get the occasional road noise, but nothing major, and the pub wasn't an issue at all. You could hear it in the hallway, but not in our room. The bathroom was a decent size, the beds were a bit small, but not an issue for a single person, and the beds were crazy comfortable. Nice comfortable mattress and thick, down alternative duvets. The pillows were small, but there were lots of them, I was very comfortable. Even our little room had a fridge, microwave and Keurig coffee maker, very good use of space, the ceiling was very high, which helped. The chamber suite was much larger and better suited for a family. We spent a decent amount of time in that room, as there were more places to sit. The hotel itself, it is definitely over 100 years old, the floors are very uneven, and very creaky. It reminded me of old houses and historic buildings that you tour with your school group, but this time you actually got to stay there. I loved it. The lobby and common areas are gorgeous, and both the guest rooms and common areas are CLEAN, even passing the white sock test. It is a fun place to explore, the hotel staff that we encountered was very helpful and friendly. (try the historic phone in the lobby, it rings the front desk) Location is also great, plenty of restaurants in walking distance, and parking was easy either on the street in front of the hotel or in the lot beside it; tons of cameras on the parking area, I felt very safe. If I were back in the Americus area, I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again, it was a great experience.

"A Great Hotel in a cute, historic town"

23/04/2018

I travel to Georgia 2X every year and even though I fly into Atlanta and work out of Albany, I stay at this historic gem in Americus every single time. The hotel has a rich history, large, renovated rooms, and a fun pub for late

"Beautiful hotel!"

09/04/2018

This is a hotel that everyone should come to stay. It is very old, but well kept up. The lobby is just gorgeous! Our room was spacious and inviting. We slept so well, too. If you come for a visit, you will not be disappointed.

"Charming and comfortable"

5
02/04/2018

We stayed in the Jimmy Carter Presidential Suite. It was beautiful and full of charm. The upholstery and curtains need to be replaced, but this did not interfere with our overall enjoyment of the room and the hotel. Highly recommend if you are coming to Americus or the surrounding area.

"Lovely Old Hotel"

5
29/03/2018

This is an old hotel that has kept all of its charm. We had a room on the 3rd floor facing the front of the hotel. The room was very spacious with a walk-in closet. The bathroom had plenty of storage and supplied a hairdryer. My only complaint was that there seemed to be a lot of noisy trucks running around with loud mufflers and you could hear them in our room. We went down to the outside porch for a drink and it was very nice. The outline of the hotel was lit up with lights and looked magical. We had a buffet breakfast for the group we were with and there was not much of a selection. I thought there would be some kind of fruit. Overall I would stay there again.

"walking distance, patio, gym, charm"

5
29/03/2018

It's a destination in itself, but a great place to stay on a business trip. The gym has an eliptical, bike, treadmill, and really nice weight set. They say it opens at 7, but it's pretty much open all the time. It's walking distance to many conveniences. You can cross the street to the healthy grocer and pick up stuff for your refrigerator. Dining at the hotel restaurant isn't excessively expensive, and the second story patio is simply delightful with a drink on a warm evening. Add to all that the charm of the 19th century building. Forgive some of the building's eccentricities (crooked floors, slow flushing toilet, etc.), but the staff will accommodate you if something about your room doesn't suit you.

"Quaint and Fun"

5
20/03/2018

This was an unexpected quaint and fun find while I was in Americus. It was my first experience at this hotel but I will for sure be back. I stayed in room 326 the first night and I must say that this room has everything you need and is cozy. The room boasts the modern creature comforts but feels like you are staying in a room from the early 1900's. The only suggestion I have for this specific room is that the tv be larger because it is placed in the cove of the room.

"One night at the Windsor"

5
18/03/2018

This is a gem of a hotel. Wonderful history as well as great architectural details. We took a ghost tour of the property and enjoyed a couple of wonderful martini's in the hotel bar. Margaret at the front desk was exceptional. Lovely room, comfortable beds. Clean.

"Just Gorgeous!"

5
04/03/2018

What a gorgeous grand hotel, from the outside to the in! We had the Presidential Suite where Jimmy & Roslyn Carter have stayed. It was , very pretty, very Presidential looking! The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was also very large. We had drinks and dinner in Floyd's Pub , 2nd floor of the hotel, it served well made drinks and the food was very good and the atmosphere was worth really enjoying... filled up with business locals and it just seemed an easy atmosphere. We took drinks out on the terrace after we ate... really relaxing. Loved this landmark hotel!!

"Very nice historic hotel"

4
03/03/2018

Our stay at the Windsor was very nice. It is a historic hotel so it has some quirks such as slanted floors and sensitive plumbing. It was very clean and well maintained. We had every convenience of a modern hotel: Keurig, hair dryer, iron, mini fridge, and microwave. The staff was polite and helpful. We had very noisy neighbors in the room next door. The front desk representative was able to move us to another room with no problems. The on site restaurant Rosemary & Thyme was exceptional. The food was amazing and reasonably priced. The wait staff were all attentive but not obnoxious. I would definitely recommend staying here for a relaxing getaway.

"Hidden delight in Americus"

5
25/02/2018

We have just returned from a weekend adventure at the Windsor. The hotel is a 125 year old gem in Americus Georgia that has been lovingly restored and is a delight to visit. Simply wandering through the hotel and looking at the carved woodwork, the magnificent lobby, and the intricate carved wood makes the visit worthwhile. Being able to take your after dinner drink and sit on the beautiful front balcony, veranda and enjoy the breeze is wonderful. Top all of this off with one of the best dining experiences in Georgia and you have a wonderful trip. The breakfast and dinners that we had were outstanding and the servers and service were first class. This is a wonderful weekender vacation for any adventure minded couple. The nearby attractions of Andersonville and Plains will occupy your free time.

"Never Book Direct, Great Hotel Poor Management"

1
08/02/2018

I booked one week at the Windsor through Best Western Website, got sick, and had to postpone my stay. The Windsor attempted to charged me for the full week and told me that if I had read the small print the website said no cancellations. The manager Margaret convinced still charged me for one night but did refund the rest. Margaret convinced me to "Book Direct" and the Windsor would then honor cancellations with no penalty. The next week, I called in and Booked Direct. When I arrived they notified me that my rates were almost double what I was promised when I made my reservation. The front desk informed me that because the hotel filled up, Margaret "bumped me up" to the Chamber Suite. I told them I didn't want the Chamber Suite and just wanted the basic room and rate I was promised over the phone. They said there were no rooms available. The whole reason for staying at the Windsor was for work. There was not even a desk to put a computer on, only a tv stand and a little round lamp table. Don't ever Book Direct or you are at Management's leisure for rates and rooms. Don't book from the website as there is mis-leading fine print. Bottom Line: Don't book at Windsor. Stay at the Hampton Inn and take advantage of the Hilton Points for a family vacation.

Tarang P, Manager at Best Western Plus Windsor Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Y2119IGmatthewc, I am so sorry to hear that you were disappointed in your most recent say. Thank you for taking the time to fill out a review. We are a family operated business and the centerpiece of downtown Americus, we want to ensure that each guest has a great experience while here. The Best Western website has many different rates you can book, the rate that you picked was an advance purchase rate. This rate states that there will be no changes, no cancellations, and is non-refundable. For these rules, you do get a discounted rate. The terms must be agreed to by clicking a button, in order to fully book your reservation. I understand that on websites there is a lot going on and could have been overlooked, we did refund your stay but the first night. We appreciated that you called us directly after that. I would like to apologize for any confusion there may have been regarding your reservation. I investigated your situation, Margaret changed your room type to a chamber suite because when you requested a change of dates your original room type was not available. She spoke with you about your changes over the phone and emailed you a confirmation letter and proforma (a breakdown of the rate for each night of your stay) 10 days before your arrival date. I would also like to sincerely apologize that there was not a desk in your room. We do not have desks in rooms with two beds, but our front desk would have been happy to have a desk put in your room for the remainder of your stay. Again, I am very sorry for the inconvenience. We hope that you will give us another opportunity to show you superior service. Thank you, Divya Patel Manager

We wanted to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our book club in a grand way! Where should we go? Out of town? Absolutely not! We stayed in town and had a lovely dinner at Rosemary and Thyme - found in the Windsor Hotel! The dinner was superb and served with great flare. Did I mention we had 25 folks that enjoyed the dinner and the fellowship. Thank you to the Chef and the staff!

"NOT the Cool Place We Hoped It Would Be"

2
05/02/2018

This hotel is lovely to look at. However, knowing what I do now, I'd go there to hang out in the beautiful lobby, maybe eat dinner there, and then LEAVE. A decent night's sleep is not included in the price. There were two of us, each with our own room, and we both found two major deal-breaking issues re: sleep: (1) Noises. Street noise (drag racing at night?), pipes clanging and banging, people walking around at 4 a.m. above me, doors slamming, housekeeping laughing and talking the minute the sun came up..... the list goes on. (2) Ridiculously uncomfortable pillows. You get several pillows, but they are not standard size. They're smaller, square, and HARD. Fred Flinstone would be proud. Additionally, the hotel staff members behind the desk were rude the afternoon that we checked in, AND the next morning when we left. Upon check-in, we asked about being on the same floor and were curtly told "Rooms have already been assigned." Not "...let me see what we can do... " or "I'll find out if that's possible..." None of that. Not even a fake wish I-could-help expression. Just "lump it, lady"vibes in the air. When we checked out, the woman behind the desk did not care a BIT about my need to find help retrieving my car from the crappy parking area, in the POURING rain. I told her I was in a handicapped space and could not run quickly. She just looked at me blankly! My friend's jaw dropped to the floor. The girl appeared to be in stun mode. Sleep deprived? English-deprived?? One more thing. The floors slant downward, giving us vertigo at times, and the bathtub creaks so much we both felt quite certain we'd drop one floor down. Read the cool history when you visit to just look around. But do not pay to stay at this place!

Tarang P, General Manager at Best Western Plus Windsor Hotel, responded to this review
Dear frisbeemom, I would like to apologize on behalf of our entire staff for not meeting your expectations during your stay. We try our best to provide a superior experience for each and every one of our guests. I am so sorry about all the issues you encountered with the road noise, the poor sleep experience you had in your rooms, and your less than satisfying encounters with front desk staff. I would love to speak with you to get some more information and your input on ways we can improve. If you would give us a call at 229-924-1555, I, or a member of our management team, would be glad to hear your feedback. Thank you for your review, and again, I sincerely apologize for your unpleasant experience. I hope you will return and give us the opportunity to change your mind. Beautiful place and atmosphere. The town of Americus is very quaint. We were visiting to see Jimmy Carter in his church. I would recommend this hotel because of ease of getting to Plains, Georgia. Everything about the hotel was exceptional.

"Step Back In Time....Grandly"

On those somewhat rare occasions that find us in Americus, we ALWAYS stop by the Windsor Hotel. Built in the 1890s, it has been restored and upgraded to the most modern standards without losing any of its grand presence. We've never stayed at the hotel, but we've had drinks at the bar, sat on the second floor porch and eaten in the gorgeous and grand Rosemary & Thyme restaurant. My favorite dinner there is the smoked pork chop, but I've heard that the cedar plank salmon is delicious as well.

My husband travels a lot and gets points for staying in Best Western Hotels. We visited this hotel. I thought the hotel was pretty awesome! I loved the decor and all the architecture. I loved the room and the high ceilings. Room was very comfortable. Plenty of hot water. I used the fitness room and we ate in the restaurant for breakfast. The dining room was very elegant with cloth tablecloths. The only thing that would have made my stay nicer, was if they had a fire in the fireplace. I would have come down and read in front of it. People were very friendly and helpful. We walked outside around the hotel and visited the stores. We walked to eat dinner out, as well.

My husband and I love to stay at the Windsor Hotel.....My favorite is the Bridal Suite, you wake up in the Round Room With All The Windows and the beautiful Victorian Bed with the Curtains that are sooo beautiful.....It makes you feel like you know how a Queen feels when she wakes up in a castle.....The pub serves the best drinks.....Shopping in the small shops in town close to the hotel are always nice. We have been coming to the Windsor for many years and we have brought my mother and my mother-in-law to stay with us at the Windsor Hotel and then took them to see Jimmy Carter teaching Sunday School at Maranatha Church. If you want to feel like you have stepped back in time.....Prepared to be CHARMED.....

"MOLD!"

3
13/01/2018

We were excited to stay at this historic hotel on a recent bus trip! The lobby and wrap around balconies were beautiful, the history you could feel! However when we arrived in our room we were very disappointed to find the ceiling in the bathroom full of mold and you could tell there had been an attempt to cover it up by painting over it. I have a lot of sinus and respiratory issues so we kept the door shut and I spent as little time in there as I could! We were traveling with a group and had to stay here. I went to the front desk to report it and as I was talking the hotel clerk finished my sentence which means they rented the room knowing there was mold issues!!! Unacceptable!!!

Tarang P, General Manager at Best Western Plus Windsor Hotel, responded to this review
Dear vluv2travl, We are very sorry you were not completely satisfied with your stay. We were aware of the mold issue in that one room, and our protocol for mold does include a coat of mold and mildew-killing paint that works really well. I apologize for the job not being completed before you checked in. We wish the front desk had been made aware that there was an issue with the room before your group was checking out; we would have been happy to assist you with a room move if available. Again, I apologize for the unpleasant stay, and I do hope you will come back and give us another chance to impress you. Sincerely, Vic Patel General Manager

More interesting to stay in an old, carefully restored property than cookie-cutter chain motels. We enjoyed the Victorian ambiance and elegance. Location in the middle of town allows walking to shops and restaurants.

"Beautifully restored south Georgia gem"

02/01/2018

The Windsor Hotel is a beautifully restored turn-of-the century (late 1800's)property with spacious and comfortable rooms and baths. Beautiful details have been preserved throughout. The staff was courteous and accommodating. There is a lovely restaurant and a bar with food on the property. My only complaint is that there is no included breakfast option.

Tarang P, General Manager at Best Western Plus Windsor Hotel, responded to this review
Dear pgunnels, Thank you so much for the compliments of our historic building. We are glad you enjoyed staying and dining with us. We don't offer breakfast at no cost, but you can include breakfast vouchers in the cost of your room at an additional fee. We made the decision not to offer a continental breakfast so that we good provide our guests with a more upscale option in our white linen dining room, Rosemary & Thyme. We appreciate your review and rating, and hope to have you visit with us again soon. Sincerely, Vic Patel General Manager

Restored hotel that let you feel you were here in the early 1900's. Easy walk to downtown activities. Dinner at The Station is definitely worth the effort. Breakfast or dinner at the hotel needs to happen before you leave.

"What a grand hotel"

5
31/12/2017

When you first come in the lobby was decorated for Christmas. It was very elegant and beautiful. A lot of history and everything is done very well. The staff at all the different places in the hotel were great. Great place to stay to enjoy Americus.

"charmingly old"

30/12/2017

Historic hotel. It was beautiful but the rooms looked dated. They were very large with comfortable beds but they were lacking in furniture to fill up space. The public areas were furnished beautifully. We had a wonderful Pimento Cheese appetizer in the lounge with a drink, and the next morning, ate breakfast in their main restaurant. The hotel and the downtown seemed charming but deserted.

"The place to stay to meet Jimmy Carter"

4
26/12/2017

If you're coming to GA to meet Jimmy Carter, this is the place to stay. The church and national park are about 20 minutes away. The hotel is in a historic building so it has its quirks, like a large gap between the bottom of the door and floor but it was clean and the beds comfortable. The hotel lobby is stunning. The hotel doesn't have dedicated parking but there's a free municipal lot down the block and street parking was free and ample around the hotel.

"2 Night Stay"

22/12/2017

For the past 5 days I have been on a road trip through the Antebellum Trail in Georgia. On my way home to Florida I decided to stop by Andersonville and Plains to see Civil War and Jimmy Carter history. I Googled historic hotels in the area and found the Windsor. The hotel is absolutely stunning from the outside and the lobby and architecture as well as the woodwork is stunning as well. The staff was all very friendly and professional. The hotel literally made me feel as if I were stepping back in time and I could literally picture the ladies of the late eighteen hundreds and early 1900s walking through the Halls. My room however was very outdated looking and did not match the grandeur of the outside and the common areas of the hotel such as the lobby. Everything was very clean but the bathroom was outdated and the wallpaper was outdated and by outdated I mean it did not even match historical period of the hotel. It definitely could use a facelift in rooms like mine. It was still a very comfortable stay. I agree with other reviews that if you stay near the dance club or near Floyd's bar and their balcony then you will hear people throughout the night talking laughing and hanging out. It did not bother me but it might other people. No one was obnoxious or disrespectful and I enjoyed hearing the laughter and people enjoying themselves. The town does shutdown relatively early and there are very few restaurants. I wanted to dine at the Rosemary and Thyme and when I went to the dining room there was one person eating at a table while there was another side room connected where there was some sort of party going on. This was at 6. I was told that they had No Reservations available until after 7:30 due to the large party. The restaurant was empty in the main dining room other than the one table in use and which one Patron was sitting while she was dying and reading a book. So unfortunately I was unable to dine at the hotel and had to drive out of the historic district to find an open restaurant and ended up at Ruby Tuesday's. There are a couple of restaurants around the hotel but they were very crowded as they were the only ones around. Since I never been to the area I did not know how far in advance to plan but it worked out nicely. The first night of my stay my room was very hot and humid. I did not see a thermostat control anywhere. I notified the front desk in the morning and was told that maintenance would take a look and they must have because the next night my room was much cooler. I appreciated the quick response. Overall it's a lovely historical hotel and I believe once they do another facelift in the rooms it will be even better. Might I suggest making the elevator appear to be old-fashioned and looks instead of the modern look as you pass by it in the hall. Perhaps the doors of the elevator on the outside could have an antique type of look to them to match the rest of the historical Hotel.

Wow, the Americus Windsor Hotel is a pure treat to visit , to have a meal, to get a drink on the veranda and rest your head!! It is gorgeous ,historic, elegant and right in the center of everything! Oh and you can hear President Carter teach Sunday school most Sunday's. That's just 10 miles away! Do yourself a favor and book a few nights at the Windsor!!!

"You will fall in love with this hotel!"

16/12/2017

I cant say enough great things about this hotel! It has such a classic elegance to everything. They did a fantastic job with the restoration. We originally booked a standard King room, however, while we were checking in, a very well dressed man who I believe is the owner, greeted us in the lobby and led us to check in. He told us a little about the hotel history which led into him arranging for us to tour the fourth floor Bridal Suite..we fell in love with the room and immediately went back to upgrade! The staff made everything so enjoyable and they make it obvious that they truly do care about your experience there. If you're looking for a way to step back in time, this place has my highest recommendation! I will most definitely be back.

"Great value for a venerable grand hotel in center of town"

5
13/12/2017

Count me as a fan. I was really surprised to find that there is life in Americus. The Windsor stands in the center of downtown as a testimony to the town's pride. It's not flashy or trendy. It's not five star. It's just a good value with clean, ample roons, with a great lobby and a great restaurant and bar -right in the center of town. Route 19 is a dream - 65 mph four lane with no traffic. If you are looking for an alternative to I-75, route 19 is it. And Americus is the perfect stop.

"Lied about Cancellation"

1
13/12/2017

I had to cancel this reservation due to sickness and missed 24-hr cancellation by 1 hour. I was disappointed I would be charged for a night by missing deadline by 1-hr but agreed. Two days after cancellation, the front desk called and informed me they could not cancel and that I would be charged for all 4 nights of entire reservation. I never checked in. I will not be staying with Best Western again!

"Wonderful Place to Stay"

This hotel is beautiful. The service is great. The people are extra helpful and nice. The rooms are lovely and the beds are wonderful. "Charged me for nights I didn't stay!"

Terrible hotel, charged me to make my own reservation, then charged me for nights I would not stay because reservations made directly through their website are apparently non refundable. Heater would not shut off, staff would not look for packages... Don't stay here, I recommend the Hampton.

Beautiful grand Victorian hotel located in an interesting small town. Room and bed were comfortable. Good coffee shop, restaurants, and bars within walking distance. The hotel bar has a fantastic porch overlooking downtown Americus. The hotel restaurant served a good traditional breakfast and opens earlier than most at 6AM. Service provided overall was wonderful.

04/12/2017

We went for a halfway point to meet with dear old friends during the day and visit with family at night. We were able to take Christmas pictures in the beautiful lobby. The downtown area had Christmas music playing in the streets. The hotel is so beautiful and the restaurant Rosemary and Thyme was five stars! We were there for breakfast before checkout and we had a fantastic dining experience! I recommend this destination if you are into history or need to stay in the area. It was a delight!

"Step back in time!!"

This hotel is amazing!! It has all the amenities of the present but all the class and design of the past. The lobby will take your breath away, the woodwork, the floors, the balcony are all exceptional! The rooms are nice with great views, coffee, microwave and everything else you will need. It is in the middle of town so you can walk around. The restaurant was closed the day we were there so we went to the Mexican Restaurant just a few blocks away and it was delicious....Can't wait to go back and tour the city and sit and enjoy the balcony!

This was my third stay at this hotel. I always enjoy my stay, This visit was no exception. From check in to check out it was a pleasure. We had a few MINOR situations but the staff really care and go out of their way to make sure your visit is enjoyable. N Lobby. Check in was a breeze, Everything was ready. I love the lobby.Comfortable. Great place to just relax or wait for the rest of your party. It always amazes me that he lobby cane look aged but never faded or ragged, Wonderful furniture and carpets, The lobby alone is wirth the stay. Perfect for reading the newspaper early in the morning or just people wtching late i the day. Room: clean, comfortable. My only issue was that my bed was TALL/HIGH. Im only 5'2" and aged. It was more than a little bit of an effort to get into the bed! Perhaps I should have asked if I could swap rooms but I managed. We enjoyed our breakfast each morning in the Rosemary and Thyme. Perfect way to start the day. Great menu. Wonderful setting and reasonable prices

The Best Western Plus Windsor Hotel was a wonderful place to stay for my short business trip. The staff was very nice and helpful and the room was very comfortable. The bed was especially comfortable, as I had the best night's sleep out of the whole trip. It is located right in the middle of Americus, GA with several interesting restaurants close by.

Building architecture is magnificent, staff the best, and everything about the place is Totally great mansion, or hotel if you must. I will tell everyone who will listen that they must go and stay at this hotel. This hotel is like staying at someone's mansion and not at a hotel. Loved this place.

13/11/2017

I like the historic, large rooms, and the quirky layout. The restaurant is excellent, as is the customer service. I stayed here once during the summer, and the AC had a little trouble keeping the (large) room cool enough for me... to be fair it was over 100 degrees outside.

"Living history"

Not a modern wonder, but historically interesting in pretty good shape. Franklin Roosevelt, Al Capone among notables cited as former guests. Enjoy lobby. There are railroad tracks nearby, but that's part of the charm.

An outstanding hotel in a great city with the hospitality of the entire city second to none, A great place to visit. Site seeing in Andersonville, Plains and Americas was very educational and the peanut ice cream in Plains was a real treat.

"On our way to Andersonville National "

08/11/2017

If you are on a trip on I 75 going north or south you must see Andersonville National Cemetery. This is a must see if you are an American. A wonderful place to stay is in close by Americus Georgia. This is listed as a Best Western Plus but is in reality the old Windsor Hotel. This downtown hotel has everything to offer at a wonderfully reasonable price. The restaurant has a terrific menu. The rooms are quaint and clean. The staff is friendly. The parking free. A great way to break up your trip, guaranteed.

"A Gem!"

5
08/11/2017

A beautifully restored Victorian gem of a hotel, with really clean, comfortable and quiet rooms. Lots of nice touches and attention to detail. The building really stands out, especially in a town that, shall we say, lacks excitement. Staff was very friendly. The lobby is gorgeous, and there's a nice terrace to relax on (if only they didn't allow smoking on it). I also had a great meal at the Rosemary & Thyme restaurant on the 2nd floor. And to top it off - the room rate was more than reasonable.

"Best Place to stay in south GA"

08/11/2017

I have stayed at this hotel on 4 separate occasions and love the historic style and atmosphere. The bar and balcony overlooking downtown and the open 3 story lobby are my favorite locations. Will definitely return.

"Grand old hotel!"

4
08/11/2017

Unlike any Best Western I have seen in the US. Grand old hotel with updates. Don't miss spending time in the lobby and learning about the history of this building. Take time to go visit Andersonville, only 10 miles away and an unforgettable experience. The National POW museum and cemetery will bring tears to your eyes.

"Great Experience"

5
07/11/2017

Loved this beautifully restored hotel. Felt like you were stepping back in time. So very quite too. My husband and I overslept. The Rosemary and Thyme restaurant was also wonderful. We would definitely stay there again. In fact, we discussed doing just that for an upcoming special occasion. We were with a preservation group in town to tour local historical homes.

"How to be fair?"

5
01/11/2017

We just left one of the most beautiful, modern, facilities I have ever been privileged to visit, The Inn at Christmas Place, Pigeon Forge and I see no way to improve on that facility; however, this facility managed to get a leg up, they have a full service bar hosted by a beautiful, quick and knowledgeable person, thank you Jesus. There is a loud boisterous crowd led by Joel and Annie, will we survive? This resting place is even older than I am, and in much better condition, believe that? The rooms are a little small, the service first rate, not much to complain about. Our meal a Cordon Blu, Windsor style, chicken not stuffed but served piping hot. A great evening with beautiful friends. Reaching your destination should not be that important it's the journey that counts!

"A unique Experience"

5
30/10/2017

125 year old hotel. Modern features blended with 5 star hotel from 1890's. The premier rooms are worth the extra money. Restaurant décor and food met expectations for upscale dining at mid level pricing.

"Be Careful-Noisy on Weekends"

1
29/10/2017

The hotel itself is very old, but has been updated. It needs a new refresh. Our bathroom was not clean, specifically the toilet. We found trash under one of the tables in the room. A word of caution if staying there on a weekend night, There is dance club across the street. On that side of the hotel the noise is unbearable. The club guests congregate on the street and there voices echo off the adjacent buildings. This starts about 10 PM and lasts until the club closes at 1:30 AM. At 1:15 we asked the front desk to call the police which they suggested because they are aware of this problem. The noise subsided at 1:30 when the police showed up and the people got in their cars and left. If you stay there ask to stay on the opposite side from the dance club. I assume it must be quieter on that side.

"Photographs lie... the price is not right!"

20/10/2017

We booked based on the gorgeous pictures, wanting to spend a very special weekend on our first trip as a couple. The pictures lie. The hotel is not what it looks. I understand it is old, but the strong pungent smell of mold in the room was terrible. The restaurant is AWFUL. We arrived one hour after they opened, and the steak they had that night... WAS GONE! Then we asked for a baked potato. No more baked potatoes. And this is advertised as a first class restaurant! I had a problem with the payment. I booked through Hotwire and they charged me. And then the hotel charged again!! Apologies here, apologies there, nothing was resolved. So a $400 stay turned to be about $1000 TOTAL RIPOFF! DO NOT STAY HERE.

Dear Ms. Coonley, First, I would like to apologize on behalf of my entire staff and myself for not meeting and exceeding the expectations you had for us. I am very sorry you were not as impressed by our facility in person as you were by the pictures. Also, I regret not being able to fulfill your wishes in our restaurant. We apologize for not living up to our reputation on this day, and we will do our best to prevent this from happening again to any guest. Finally, the problem with your payment has been resolved on our end, you should have already been refunded through the website you booked with, they informed us that the refund was finalized on the 17th of this month. If you have not received it, I would suggest utilizing their customer service hotline to get in touch with them. Again, we apologize for your bad experience, and we would like you to know that it is an irregularity in the way we run ourselves, and certainly not the norm. We hope you will choose to give us another chance. Sincerely, Vic Patel General Manager

What a find!! A fully renovated Victorian hotel in a small southern town, just a couple of hours south of metropolitan Atlanta! Walking into the lobby of the hotel is breathtaking....it's like walking back in time. It's spacious, clean, inviting, and comfortable. Two front porches provide comfortable get-aways for enjoying drinks and dinner from the 2nd floor pub, for gathering with friends, or for just sitting and reading. Rooms and baths are, understandably, small, but are clean and quite comfortable. This hotel is a gem!! Can't wait to return.

24/09/2017

This "little" hotel in Americus is a "must stay" location. What a discovery! First, great air conditioning which is a necessity in the area. But what will blow you away is the quaint character of the architecture and the incredible warmth and exceptional service from the staff. Rooms are full of charm. Lobby is expansive and impressive. Dining room is ball room like and exudes class. The food is delicious and reflects the culture of the area.... though not the true soul food menu that the region is known for. Immaculate. Bathroom in room was tiny and old, but clean and fine for what you need. Bar full of charm. Location great. Destiny was our server on Thursday for 16-18 of us and deserved a standing ovation for her positive warm happy attitude and her lightening speed and thoughtful service at dinner. Food was delicious. I cannot wait to bring my family back to the area to stay right here. The entire experience was that good.

My husband and I visited this hotel on our anniversary weekend and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We stayed in the bridal suite which is well worth it - it is a beautiful room with beautiful views. The hotel offers haunted history tours upon request - don't worry nothing too scary! it was really cool to hear the story of the historic hotel and learn about the architecture. The service was excellent and it's very convenient to have two restaurants on site. Great place to spend an anniversary weekend!

Vic and his staff at the Windsor took great care of a hotel full of people...wedding parties and Irma evacuees. The hotel, itself, is beautiful with huge rooms and suites. The on-site dining is good and the location is perfectly walkable to most of downtown Americus. The staff was attentive and I can't think of a single negative thing to say.

HistoricWindsorHotel, General Manager at Best Western Plus Windsor Hotel, responded to this review
Dear aisle9, Thank you for your kind review. I am so glad my staff and I were able to take care of all of our guests during the stressful times surrounding Irma and the exciting times of a wedding. We are very pleased with how well everything went even in the chaos, and we were glad to be able to keep everyone safe and happy during that time. We hope you will come visit with us again when it's a calmer time, and truly experience the Windsor as it usually is. Thank you again for all of your compliments, we truly appreciate it. Sincerely, Vic Patel General Manager

Not much to do in Americus proper...but if you are visiting Plains or Andersonville, this is the place to stay...comfy rooms...beautiful historic details in the main lobby...there's a bar and a terrace where you can watch the local traffic while sipping a brew...several local restaurants within walking distance but there's a "white tablecloth" restaurant on site and a really good "bistro" on the corner at street level but it closes pretty early. This is one of the gems of Americus and luckily it was restored and not torn down like so many historic buildings were.

I'm not sure that I would've found this place had it not been for Jimmy Carters Sunday School Class in the nearby town of Plains, GA. I am so glad that I did. The hotel is beautiful, and while it's not as "polished" as some of the fancier branded chains, it is perfectly appointed and very well maintained. I know that it takes a small fortune to keep up historic properties, and they seem to be doing a fine job. Chelsea at the front desk is an absolute jewel. We asked about the ghosts, and she told us the story, and many more. She seemed very passionate and enthusiastic about the hotel. Her enthusiasm was contagious and made us appreciate the place even more. The restaurant upstairs was booked, but we were able to order off their menu at the pub next door. It was very good, and reasonably priced. I would definitely return to this hotel if I ever find myself in this area again.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful. We spent a quiet weekend celebrating 50 years of marriage. Food was very good, restaurant staff went out of their way to make it an enjoyable experience. Little noisy, lots of young people celebrating too....

Stunningly beautiful place to stay. With the bridal suite they have if I wasn't already married I would stay there. Already planning to make plans to stay annually for my anniversary. Both people and facility one of the best hotel experiences I've ever had. They have moved to number two on my all time favorite hotels, and that's only because my favorite is the Waverly in Edinburgh Scotland. Finally, Chelsea is an absolute jewel of a person. Very professional, very nice, and wonderful to chat with.

The hotel in Americus and it is just a short drive to Plains, GA, My wife and I found the Windsor BW to be a lovely place to stay in order to attend President Carter's Sunday School Lesson the following morning. The local economy was devastated last decade. A tornado ravaged the town in 2007 and the following recession that started in 2008 stretched several years. This double punch made recovery even more difficult. Your stay helps the town regain its footing and it is worth it. - dp from Michigan

My wife and I recently stayed in the Windsor Hotel for a night, while on our way to Florida with the rest of our family for vacation time at the beach. Besides our toilet not flushing properly (I had to take the top off the bowl and manually flush it... but it was no big deal since we were there for 1 night)... the hotel was great! Our room was on the second floor and it took a while to get to it, as it was a ways from the elevator. But it's an old historic hotel, so I guess a bit of a walk is expected. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was larger than most newer/modern hotels! We ate dessert at the Rosemary and Thyme restaurant. The skillet cookie was very good! While we weren't there long enough to partake in the other options, I thought it was good that there were at least a couple of other eating options connected to the hotel. I had booked the hotel as a surprise for my wife... and I think she was in fact surprised! Maybe one day we will return when we can have more time to spend in the area. The price may be a little too high for us, but it definitely could have been a lot more pricey for the type of hotel it is.

Stayed here while in the area on family business. Booked the King Suite and was treated to Southern Charm at it's finest. From check-in to check-out everything was first class. All staff members were professional and the entire facility was well maintained. This is a great example of elegance and charm brought about by a well executed restoration. We have already booked another stay next month.

We went to Americus so that we could tour the Andersonville Civil War Prison of War Camp. We stayed two nights in this exquisite hotel and this was a treat we hadn't expected. The atmosphere is regal, but not stuffy. The dining room is gorgeous, the food is the best, and the rooms are luxurious. The only thing better than the accommodations are the people who work there! We were thoroughly impressed with their service, kindness, and it shows that they love their jobs and their hotel. Thanks again to Maggie, Joe, Justin, and Destiny, for making our trip most memorable. Ask for Maggie to give you an official tour for only $12. We WILL be back!

Take a step back in time, to stay at the old Windsor Hotel in Americus, Georgia. Now run by Best Western, this is a classic, old style hotel, like many found in small towns across America. A huge lobby, balconies, vaulted ceiling, chandeliers, fireplace, and comfortable furniture make this a place where you just want to "sit a while". The rooms are very large, with high ceilings, and comfortably furnished. The beds are very comfortable, and the rooms are equipped with a fridge, microwave, and flat screen TV. This is a very old place. The floors are not always even, and thankfully, it is not your "cookie cutter " modern facility. You will enjoy staying here. We did!

Exceptional Hotel staff in every respect. Southern Hospitality at its finest! A very elegant Victorian era hotel rich with history, local folk lore, and charm. Hotel has elegant wood work, ivory floors in the restaurant (exceptional food well priced), and an inviting atmosphere. Highly recommended when visiting the area or a weekend get-away. About 30 miles off of I-75 and well worth the stay off of the interstate if your passing through south GA.

The Wyndham in Americus GA is among our favorite hotels. The Southern charm is evident throughout this grand hotel that was built in 1892. The restaurant, Rosemary and Thyme is gorgeous and the food is scrumptious cuisine. This hotel is a precious gem!

"Musty old hotel not worth the visit"

23/07/2017

We stayed in this hotel at the request of my daughter-in-law who had a block of rooms reserved for my son's wedding. While it was very interesting to see such an old historic building still in much of its original form, we had too many disappointments to make up for the historical allure. I was on a scooter after a recent foot surgery and continued to be given rooms that had steps to get to the room. I would take the elevator to the floor and then there would still be steps up to another landing. They were unable to help us. They are not handicapped accessible. Our first room was terribly small. It was a small quarters with a tv hidden in the corner on a crooked floor beside an oversized wardrobe. I was unable to move around the room with my scooter and we found several beetles in the room and were asked to change. We moved to the Jessica Tandy suite. It was a moldy smelling old musty room with only one bed and old furniture that must have been from the late 1890's. My allergies were terrible in this moldy room that was so damp I felt like I had just camped all night. They made a mistake and told me this room wasnt available another night. So once again I moved to another room. I was moved to another small room that also had beetles and no room to move. My scooter couldn't ft at all in the bathroom. Apparently the air conditioner leaked and it ran down the wall of the bathroom causing the floor to be wet at all times. So wet that I had sopping towels soaking up the water and there was still water al over. This was one of the worst hotel stays I have ever had. Although it was unique and the lobby looked like a movie from a fine hotel from the turn of last century, that didn't make up for the out-of-date small rooms and the terrible service. We desperately tried to find rooms at another hotel but they were sold out. We were stuck. I really wanted to like this old hotel but having had a facelift 17 years ago does a comfortable hotel make! It's time for a true overhaul!

"Charming hotel"

Staying at this beautiful hotel made me feel like I had stepped back in time, into the early 1900s. The lobby is stunning and beautifully renovated to display its original charm. Our room had one queen bed, and the room did feel a bit tight. The door opened to almost touching the bed. There is a luggage rack, but not much room to set it up where it is not in the way. I did notice that the rooms with two queen beds were a bit more spacious overall. The room was very clean, and the bed comfortable. The room could be improved by providing reading lights near the bed, (the nightstand light was not very bright) and a magnifying mirror in the bathroom. The room itself was fairly quiet, and we did not hear other guests, but every time the AC came on during the night it would wake me up. The staff is friendly and efficient and check-in went smoothly. I would suggest parking in the lot next to the hotel (to the right ) and entering in through the side door that has a ramp if you have luggage, rather than going up the steps to the front entrance. They have a restaurant and a pub on the second floor. I would definitely stay here again!

The Windsor is one of those out of the ordinary stays, in that it is not your typical cookie cutter hotel. With it's grand lobby and high ceiling rooms it is a unique and wonderful experience. From the wood blinds to the decor. I was wondering how the shower would be in such an old building but it was really good water pressure. My bed was good but felt like it may be nearing the end. Again wonderful place and if I am ever in Americus again, I will no doubt be staying at the Windsor!

"Historic hotel worth the visit"

21/07/2017

All in all, we enjoyed our night at the Windsor, built in 1892 and about to celebrate its 125th anniversary in September. Our room was small - don't be fooled by the pictures, most are for the suites - but well appointed. It was clean and met our needs. Our one complaint would be that with a conference room next door, we felt at times like we were in the meeting! Noise can be a bit of an issue, but it was a mostly quiet evening, and once the meeting broke up (and we said our goodbyes through the wall! Ha) it was fine. We did find the ac worked well but was a bit difficult to moderate; we were in turns cold and warm. The shower was excellent and linens very good. We recommend this historic small-town hotel in the heart of peanut and pecan country.

HistoricWindsorHotel, General Manager at Best Western Plus Windsor Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Dana O, Thank you for your review. I am glad to hear your enjoyed your stay for the most part. I would like to apologize for the size of your room, and the noise you experienced. We try to avoid having these issues, and I'm sorry we weren't able to in this case. We do hope you will come back and visit us again, and this time we will do our best to put you in one of our regular sized rooms, and away from any meeting spaces and noise. Thank you again! Wonderful experience, full of history, excellent stay. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Well worth the extra few mikes from I-75. Be sure to visit the Telephone Museum in nearby Leslie, GA which houses the beginning of communication equipment to present day.

My husband and I visited the area to visit Plains, GA. This hotel is beautiful, historical but very comfortable. Our roommate was small but ok with us. Also in front of hotel so was noisy with street traffic and being on the west side heard music from the two bars on that side. Had breakfast both days and would recommend experience in dinning room. Food and service excellent. Staff very nice.

A must visit if you like eclectic experiences and abhor cookie-cutter accommodations. The Victorian-era hotel is a destination in and of itself. It may even be haunted! It offers two in-house dining options. Enjoy a cocktail on the veranda. After dinner, relax in the low light of the lobby and people watch. The staircases are beautiful; the decor reflects the period of the hotel. You can park alongside the hotel in street parking or use the adjoining parking lot. The hotel is centrally located and within walking distance to a coffee house, antique market, and organic market.

What a pleasant surprise! We absolutely loved our stay at the Windsor. It was a beautifully restored Victorian hotel that stayed true to it style. We felt like we had stepped back in time, but with all the modern amenities. My only complaint is that it is too far from our home to enjoy regularly for a romantic get away. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that we had a wonderful dinner at the restaurant there in the hotel. It was probably the best meal we had on our entire 9 day vacation. Not only was the food exceptional, but the service was outstanding and the atmosphere made me feel like I had stepped back 100 plus years in time.

The hotel is historically beautiful. We had cocktails and the very best burgers, honestly, in the bar!!! The staff are all very pleasant and care share stories of the history. We stayed in the Carter Presidential Suite and it was large and very pretty! Our only complaint would be an odor in this room... it was very clean, but an odor. We stay in many old hotels, inns and b&b's and know the smell of older establishments, but this was different. I'm sure the establishment can correct it with something. Otherwise very pleased!!

This hotel exudes Southern hospitality. The towns of Americus and Andersonville are full of Southern American history and deserve a visit. Add the Windsor Hotel and you've got a real winner! Wonderful dining room. Beautiful rooms decorated appropriately. A beautifully restored hotel. Kudos to the Patel family, who own and manage the hotel. They are very much a part of the community, making it a place that all Americus/Andersonville citizens are proud of. Especially lovely at Christmas...from Dec 1 through the new year it looks like gingerbread after dark! . Note: Americus can be very hot during the summer.

26/06/2017

Our stay at this lovely gem was fabulous. We enjoyed learning about the hotel being haunted and walking through the hallways attempting to hear the Little Girl. The service at the hotel was great! We attempted to eat dinner at the pub, but it was too noisy and crowded for a family and too much smoke outside on the terrace, so we went to the restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Our waiter was fabulous and took great care of us. The hotel is beautiful at night with all the lights. This is a great place to stay if you are in town to visit the Jimmy Carter National Memorial.

We stayed three nights in this lovely hotel. Our room was spacious and clean. The only ice dispenser for guests was on the third floor. The hotel is situated in the middle of downtown. There are plenty of restaurants/bars/shops within walking distance. We did not eat at the restaurant in the hotel. We would have had an exceptional stay had it not been for kids running, talking and laughing in the halls after midnight on both Friday and Saturday nights. I would recommend getting a room that is not near the conference rooms on the second floor.

Friendly staff & service, but the hotel is its own greatest draw. Any architecture fan will be delighted. It has been lovingly restored to its original look, even to having Victorian furniture in much of the public space. Dinner in the old dining room is also a pleasure-good menu, well prepared & served by an attentive wait staff.

"Wonderful old hotel"

05/06/2017

My mom and I stayed on the way through from a visit to Plains and found this hotel lovely and charming. It has been really nicely redone and much of the old charm is intact. We ate in the onsite pub and had breakfast in the main dining room. Both were delicious and well-priced. The wait staff and the hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The room was very large and had elegant furniture - not your typical Best Western, but really lovely. A jewel in the crown of Americus.

"Beautifully restored hotel"

This hotel is a must if you are traveling through this part of Georgia. It is full of history and the charm of a bygone era. The hotel has been carefully restored but the floors still creak and they certainly aren't flat like you find in the cookie-cutter hotels across the country. Our room was comfortable, clean and the bed was great! We enjoyed a cocktail in the bar and chatted with a charming couple who had spent many years in the area and provided us a history lesson. We also enjoyed dinner in the hotel restaurant which has lovely decor. I highly recommend this hotel for a lovely change of pace from the standard fare of hotels.

My husband and I stayed here one night for a visit to Andersonville and were very pleasantly surprised. Despite being part of a chain (Best Western), this hotel was far from cookie cutter. As other reviews have noted, the hotel has been beautifully restored and our room was more modern and comfortable than I expected, and very reasonably priced. We had a great lunch at LIttle Brother's Bistro next door, and enjoyed drinks in the 2nd floor hotel bar. Would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Americus.

"Historic, great food, terrible air conditioning"

22/05/2017

CONS: I stayed here for a week on business travel, the temperature in the room when I checked in read 80 degrees on the thermostat... it was set to 72. I ran the AC on high, set to 70, and it struggled to stay below 80 (usually 78) all week. It was in the 90's outside, but it still made the room uncomfortably warm in my opinion (although the ceiling fan did help). Several of the electrical outlets didn't work, or were so loose that plugs would just fall out... annoying when you have two cellphones and a laptop to plug in. The TV controls were awkward, and HBO skipped (best description) making it very hard to watch. PROS: The wireless coverage/speed was VERY good. The soap/shampoo was Bath & Body Works... so my wife is happy. The pub on the second level had good burgers, and the sweet potato fries were awesome... which is good, because most of the restaurants in Americus close at 5pm. If you want to go out for dinner, there's a restaurant a few feet down the road called The Station that I highly recommend.

Dear michaelbmrf, I am so sorry to hear your air conditioning wasn't working properly during your stay, and that the plugs and tv in your room were unsatisfactory. We are planning a large renovation soon which should remedy these issues. Thank you for your compliments of our wireless service, bathroom amenities, and dining in Floyd's Pub. We hope you will come visit with us again so that we may have the opportunity to impress you more so than we were able to achieve in your last visit. Again, I am very sorry for any inconvenience you faced, and all of our staff are more than willing to assist you in anyway with any problems you may have should you choose to stay with us in the future. Sincerely, Vic Patel General Manager

Stayed here as we toured Andersonville Prison site and Jimmy Carter museum. Allie was very friendly and most helpful when we checked in. She enrolled us in Best Western's program. Hesitant at first to stay in an older hotel, but certainly glad we did. Our dinner in the restaurant was delicious. My wife and I have decided to go a little out of our way to stay here during our travels from TN to FL an vice versa.

The Mold and Cleaning spray fumes they used had me wanting to run for the front door, only I couldn't for coughing so hard. I was sick for4 days. I was their to watch our grandson graduate that night, as long as I was away from the hotel I seamed to breath better. if this Hotel doesn't make you sick the black natts swarming around made for all a miserable trip. Watch him graduate was the only good thing in the whole trip.

We loved almost everything about this hotel. The only issue we had was the rude man who stood out in the hallway in the middle of the night talking on his phone! Not much the hotel can do about that! We would definitely stay at this hotel again! The food in the restaurant alone could keep us coming back!

Wonderful restored old hotel in a wonderful little town. Well appointed room, very clean and comfortable. My only complaint is I made my reservation 2 weeks in advance and asked for a room with a view of the town. My view was of a brick wall. The young lady at the desk was very sweet and said the rooms were pre-assigned. Well, why wasn't the request honored at the time of the reservation?

I am a very frequent traveler and the Windsor Hotel in downtown Americus is a treasure. The Patels are very committed to this landmark and to the community. The hotel is rich with history. The rooms are comfortable. The restaurant is excellent and the porch is "the place" in Americus to enjoy a cocktail and overlook the city. Be sure to explore the shops and other restaurants in downtown as well.

We spent a couple of days in American in the Windsor Hotel. The place is absolutely beautiful!!! The lobby is stunning and very stately. Our room was beautiful, quiet and very clean. It was decorated very historic and in keeping with the period. The bed was sooo comfortable!! Our only complaint was we arrived on Sunday and there was nothing open. The restaurant and pub were both closed for business on Sunday. Not a lot of options for lunch or dinner in town. And, one other thing. It rained on Sunday evening and the cable went down. But, the staff was very inviting and informative. We would love to come back but will make sure not to come on a Sunday.

A nice evening's stay at the Windsor Hotel in Americus, GA. Beautifully restored 125 year old hotel. Room was nice though a lot of street noise at night as hotel sits on a busy road. It was Easter so all local nearby restaurants were closed. very convenient to walk though lovely historic neighborhoods.

Staying at the Windsor Hotel has been on my bucket list. When I stepped through the doors, it was like stepping back in time. The restoration of this hotel was incredible! Every effort was made to make it look like it did 125 years ago. That made our stay even better because it is the 125th anniversary of the hotel. The bed was very comfortable, and the room was very roomy. We will definitely stay there again.

This old, restored hotel is beautiful and quirky. If you want ultra-modern design and uniformity, this is probably not the experience for you, but if you appreciate ornate woodwork, architectural detail, and craftsmanship, you'll enjoy this stay. It's the best place to stay in Americus. It's an attraction unto itself.

The Best Western Plus Windsor hotel in Americus is another example of the wonderful work that BW has done in providing us with comfortable, classic and beautiful accommodations. This hotel was built in 1892 and has been carefully returned to its original beauty. My wife and I spent a day and night here while visiting the Andersonville National Historic site. It turned out to be a perfect venue. Parking is free and convenient next door to the hotel, the service was first class and room clean/cheerful/well appointed. The second floor patio pub is a great place to relax and our meal in the main dining room was "big time". Overall, this was a wonderful "adventure" more than just a stay overnight. Best Western continues to impress!

The Windsor Hotel, located in Americus GA is a wonderful historic hotel with top notch dining and customer service. While visiting Andersonville GA National Historic Site, POW Museum and National Cemetery we selected to stay at the Windsor. What a grand hotel it is and Floyd's Pub with it's covered patio and wicker chairs are not to be missed. Also excellent dining is available in the Rosemary and Thyme dining room. We stayed on the 3rd floor and our room was airy and bright and exceptionally well appointed and clean. This hotel was built in 1892 and the floors and wood throughout are gorgeous. It has been completely remolded/restored twice. Hat's off to the management and staff of this hotel. It is a must stay!

06/04/2017

We stayed one evening -- st patrick's day-- in this old Windsor Hotel. It is a beautiful, historic building as others have noted -- pay the extra few dollars to occupy a larger room. some are very small. After walking about the town for a 'celebration ale'(unsuccessfully) we encounter a friendly couple just leaving the hotel. they assured us this was the 'only place to be' in Americus. I think they were correct. The bar was hoppin' and many folks seated on the grand outdoor porch, enjoying their brew and watching the events on the street. we had a guiness for the day and a great burger. worth a special stop!

The hotel is gorgeous. Location is great with restaurant options in the hotel. There's a pub with outdoor seating on the balcony looking over the town square with rocking chairs. It's very relaxing. The pub has food options and you can order from the restaurant which is more of a fine dining option. Hotel is in walking distance to shopping, coffee shops, and other restaurants. The beds are comfortable. The rooms are very clean. I've been there several times and most times were pleasant, but a couple times it was quite noisy. There is a night club across from the hotel that is loud on weekend nights. Overall, very nice hotel.

19/11/2016

Greeted by a warm & inviting lobby beautiful decorated for the holiday season. Check in was friendly and fast. My room was charming with beautiful antique furnishings. A word of warning ~~~ the beds are very high/tall. Came up above my hip and I'm 5'8. I was worried about being able to safely get in and out of the stunning bed safety, got a bad knee. The front desk brought me a step stool, problem solved. Bed was extremely comply!!! As soon as you walk into this establishment, it's like walking back in time. Attention to detail of days gone by is refreshing. By no means is this hotel what you may consider modern/ but the charm and detail of simpler times was refreshing. Don't worry, there is modern amenities like wifi. Had a delicious steak dinner in the restaurant and breakfast the next morning was just as good. Only complaint if I had one was parking was a bit of an issue due to outside renovations/ maintenance on the exterior of hotel. There was heavy equipment and orange safety cones blocking most front of building parking. Also work crew was a bit loud outside my window early in the morning. The front desk clerk did offer an escort to our vehicle that night if we were going back out and suggested calling desk when we got back. It was a nice gesture in making us feel safe and taken care of. We will definitely be staying here again when we come back for training at the RCI.

So glad that this historic hotel has been saved. The lobby is beautiful and the staff was wonderful. Enjoyed a drink and dinner on Floyd's Pub veranda. The room was spacious and the bathroom updated and clean. Only complaint was the noise from the bar on N.Jackson St. From Room 314, the noise is incredible. Both Friday and Sat. nights stays the noise from that bar was non-stop until closing time, 2:30am. It appeared that everyone congregated at the entrance to the bar, so screaming, yelling, cars taking off at high rates of speed, horns honking. Crazy. If you book, ask for an interior room or a room away from N. Jackson St. With this information, I would stay here again, but would ask for an interior room.

"SERIOUS ISSUES..."

05/11/2016

My 6 night stay went awry from the very first night. There was no heat in my room and the ambient temperature was 64 degrees in the room. I was given a portable heater that never actually warmed the room, but after 3-4 hours, it did raise the temp to 72 degrees. I informed staff the next morning. When I returned to my room that evening the maid had left the AC on high and set to 65 degrees. Really? I informed Vic the manager and he did immediately upgrade me to the Carter Presidential Suite. I am aghast that what they call a Presidential Suite is really no different (other than size & a couch with 2 chairs) than regular rooms.

My family enjoyed the hotel. It was very clean. We have never stayed at a hotel that reflected the past and history. It was nice for the kids to see. The rooms were very large. We are a family of 5 and fit comfortably in a double room that had a sofa for one of the little ones to sleep on. We were here to go to Plains on Sunday morning so its only about 12 minutes or so from Presidents Carter church.

This hotel is a historic, beautiful building that looks like a castle with turrets. The lobby has marble floors, oak wood and Victorian furniture. The hotel has an elevator and has been updated. It is a fun, wonderful experience to stay there. Parking is in a lot behind the hotel. There is an alley beside the hotel to get to the parking lot. We read about this hotel on line & thought it would be fun to try it. The hotel was built in 1892 but is completely updated. The front desk clerks were exceptional - very friendly & knowledgeable. The cleaning staff was great as well as maintenance staff. Our room was spacious and clean. The bathroom, surprisingly for an old hotel, was very clean with great water pressure. The restaurant was beautifully done - exceptional service & food. The bar on the second floor was great with a balcony area that overlooked the street below. Drink prices were very reasonable and bar staff was great. The price was very reasonable also. The only downside was the street noise.

We love this place. The hotel itself is elegant. Floyd's Pub on the second floor is one of the most popular places in Americus. The pub extends out into a wonderful balcony area with rocking chairs and sitting areas. We take our coffee out there in the mornings. The pub food is great and is of course casual. The dining room is more formal and is also quite good. This is a destination hotel not just a stop while you are traveling.

There were three of us staying here for the President Carter birthday celebration with David Osborn. Having stayed in the Windsor before, I was thrilled that we were able to stay here again for the two nights. We had a two queen suite (308) and the room was large and very comfortable. I love the fact that the hotel has kept the beautiful antiques and look of the 1800's. The beds were nice and cozy with fresh clean linens and there were ample towels and toiletries. We also had breakfast in the dining room which is lovely. Floyd and Brittany were both so very friendly and accommodating. They kept our coffee refilled and were the perfect wait staff with smiles and even remembering what we ordered the first morning! I just can not say enough great things about this hotel and hope to stay again!

Awesome!!! Check in and check out was extremely easy and quick. Loved the period décor and furnishing. Ordered food from both the in house pub and restaurant The food was very good, appetizers tasty and my spouse reported the rum and coke mixed just right!! The fitness room was even decorated in the 1890 theme!! The stay was very enjoyable!

We went to Plains, Ga for the Peanut Festival. Plains is so tiny that there are so few accommodations, so we stayed at the Best Western Plus in Amercius which is about 10 miles away. This hotel got some bad reviews, but we were limited in our choices. The hotel turned out to be perfect for us. I had read where the there was live music in the bar area on Friday nights, so I requested a room as far from the bar as possible. We didn't hear any music at all. We did hear sirens as the Police department is just a block or two away. We did hear trains pass a few times in the night. If you are sensitive to these things, take earplugs. Our room (323) was beautiful and comfortable. The bed was just a little too hard for me at first, but I did sleep comfortably. The room had no weird smells, but the elevator smelled of mothballs. The water pressure in the bathroom was good, and the toilet flushed quietly. The ice and snack machines are close by, but not too close to cause noise. There is a beautiful restaurant on the 3rd floor, and the food was very good. There is outdoor patio on each floor that was nice. It was connected to the bar area on our floor, but at times, there was no one but us sitting there which made it nice for reading. The WiFi worked well. We were very surprised and pleased with our stay, especially after reading many of the bad reviews. No free breakfast. You park on your own on the street or a small parking lot next to the hotel. We did ot have any trouble parking, but loading and unloading the vehicle is not as easy as some places since there is no ramp to roll luggage carts up and down. You have to carry the luggage up a couple of steps.

"A true hidden gem of Southern Hospitality!"

Having to travel far too much in Southern Georgia due to work. I have had my share of mediocrity hotels to "Is this all you got!" Lodgings. It was truly a blessing to land in this hotel downtown Americus! This hotel is where one would want it to be! You are within walking distance to several good eating establishments, the restaurant located on the second floor serves good food with excellent staff to wait on you in a period setting of time gone by. My room was nice and comfy for a room from the 1890s the old plaster walls kept the room noise to a bare minimum so one can sleep. The Windsor does have a bar and a second floor that opens to a upper porch to enjoy your routine to unwind. They do offer a wedding suite and one can make arrangements for party reservations. Do check this gem out!

The Best Western Plus Windsor Hotel is a beautiful historic hotel in downtown Americus. When step through the door you are transported back in time to high ceilings, beautiful rich wood, old-fashioned chandeliers and antique furniture. Everyone I met who works there is friendly and courteous and goes out of their way to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. I loved walking the halls looking at the old pictures from the 1800 and 1900's. Thanks Windsor Hotel!

This hotel was a pleasant surprise, and not what I expected. Booked this last minute, so wasn't sure what I was walking in to. What I experienced was a travel back in time but with modern amenities. The hotel has historic charm that beat western has maintained. The rooms are clean, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was clean and had plenty of hot water. There is a bar on the second floor and it had indoor and a very pleasant outdoor patio. Relax under the stars with a drink and a nice view of downtown. I would definitely visit again and recommend for anyone traveling to this area.

The Windsor is a beautiful, well-loved Victorian hotel in the heart of a tiny town, Americus, in south Georgia. Great meals, gracious staff, a fabulous porch bar and perfect beds make it worth the stay. This little hotel is one of America's treasures. Worth a trip if you're a Victorian architecture buff. Ask for a private tour in advance of your stay- they are happy to give it.

This hotel is just lovely. Photos simply can't do justice to this great property. We stayed in the Carter suite. Really nice king bed...nice linens...clean bathroom. The architecture is phenomenal. Beautiful hotel...not one complaint. We had breakfast at Rosemary & Thyme dining room...top notch with a shout out to Floyd..great service and great food. Lunch at Little Brothers..again...top notch. The bar service at Floyd's pub could use some maturity...but otherwise drinks are good and priced well. I would definitely recommend this wonderful hotel....and we will be returning in the future. Thanks Best Western Windsor for an excellent start for our 40th anniversary vacation.

Stayed here during a tandem bicycle rally for a weekend. Beautiful old railroad hotel that has been lovingly restored to match its time in history. Wonderful staff who are very proud of their property and really enjoy sharing stories and history of the building and the area. The building even has some paranormal activity and is certified as a ghost hotel! Great bar on the second floor with a most awesome porch. Highly recommend!

23/08/2016

We recently spent a night in the Presidential Suite in the historic Windsor Hotel. As soon as we walked in, we were awestruck at the beautiful and ornate construction and decor. Joe checked us in and gave us a brief and thorough history of this gorgeous building. He also gave us restaurant and site recommendations, which we found very helpful. We actually had dinner at the hotel bar and the food was really great, but the drinks were even better! The waitress and bartender (she was the same person doing both jobs) was so very polite and so efficient. She was covered with customers and just kept hustling to get everyone's food and drink out correctly and quickly. We had some questions about a certain brand of southern whiskey and she answered all of them and even told us where to buy some in town. Our room was the Presidential Suite and it was awesome! It was located in the tower so we had a great view all the way around. It was also very large, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. We really loved the furnishings! We can't wait to return to Americus and stay in the Windsor again!

HistoricWindsorHotel, General Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Windsor Hotel Americus, responded to this review
Dear Peachesbmc, Thank you for taking the time out to leave such a glowing review. We are so pleased to hear that Joe made your experience memorable and provided some tasty dinner choices. As always, if there is anything we can do to make your next stay even more exceptional, please do not hesitate to call and let us know. We can't wait for you to come back! "Its Old"

5
22/08/2016

Yes, its old, but that is what you want when you stay at a historical hotel. You do not want a Disneyesque recreation. The lobby is held in a time warp of the early 1900s. You could imagine sitting there with your favorite movie star from the black and white movie era. You could probably spend the day looking at all the historical pictures that decorate the walls of the entire hotel. But you will want to eat at the Rosemary and Thyme restaurant on the second floor or the bar down the hall. Wood and marble and carpeting are period. Some doors are made from wood salvaged from the original hotel. Our room was very large and had two queen beds. There were some things that had to be modern. There was a flat screen TV, electric lights, a bathroom and air conditioning. If you are very discreet ask the staff and they may tell you a ghost story. Parking is free and next door. You are located in downtown Americus and can walk the old town.

HistoricWindsorHotel, General Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Windsor Hotel Americus, responded to this review
Dear Richard S, Thank you for your recent review! We are so pleased to know that you truly enjoyed and appreciated all of the hotels rich history . "An Architectural Treasure & Total First Class Experience"

5
22/08/2016

If you are looking for a romantic get away, this is the place. Kudos to the current owners for buying this treasure, and the masterful restoration that they have done. This is a rare gem of a structure. One that should be appreciated and savored like a fine wine. There are just too many good things to say about this place. One has to experience first hand the charm and character of by gone days in order to fully appreciate what has become lost in our culture. By all means, eat at the restaurantt for dinner. One of the finest meals we have had any where. The steak dinner prepared with a South American twist is one of the best steaks I have had any where. Just a top flight experience in a truly breath taking atmosphere. We loved the dining experience so much that we returned for breakfast. We all felt the breakfast experience did not live up to the dinner experience. We were expecting eggs benedict or some new and interesting twist on the typical breakfast fare. For the most part, breakfast is fairly typical here. Nothing blew us away. It was good, but lacked the excitement of the previous day's dinner. If you are looking to impress a spouse or significant other, this would be the place to take them. My only issues, and this is splitting hairs, were that the toilet in our room did not flush as well as I liked. The room also did not have a sizable desk for my lap top and other tech requirements. There is only street parking, but that was not an issue for us. Rarely do you get the chance to be surrounded and immersed in a total first class experience. We all just loved this place, and our compliments to the well trained staff and chef who made our experience truly memorable.

Dear Bluejay377, Thank you for taking the time out to leave such a kind review. We are thrilled that you chose our property for your romantic getaway. I would however like to apologize for any shortcomings you experienced during our breakfast service. We will most definitely look into adding more interesting and exotic dishes to our menu. Also, I wanted to let you know that I am not sure which room that you were in , but in the future if you need a desk all of our single queens have a desk. We are also sometimes able to put a desk in a room if we have a spare available. Thank you for all of your comments and suggestions as they all help us to continuously grow and improve. 05/08/2016

My husband and I again visited the Windsor Hotel for a little get-a-way the end of July. I am more than pleased to report that NOT A SINGLE THING HAS CHANGED since our last stay. The hotel is a true classic, VERY classy, and spotless! The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, it was so incredibly hot and humid that we were unable to enjoy the porch area off of Floyd's Bar - although we tried. But the bar itself is very comfortable and the staff very personable. The restaurant, Rosemary and Thyme, was again OUTSTANDING - and will be reviewed separately. We can not wait until we can plan another trip...

Beautiful historic building with well trained and knowledgeable staff. The food at the restaurant was excellent. It is centrally located in downtown Americus, and near historic sites such as Andersonville. I would stay here again for business or pleasure. The room was very clean and I was comfortable walking around my room barefoot (a rarity). I definitely recommend the Windsor to anyone wanting to visit Americus or the surrounding area.

"We had a lovely stay at the Windsor Hotel!"

5
01/08/2016

We had a lovely stay at the Windsor Hotel. We were in the area to visit Plains and Jimmy Carter's Sunday School class and chose the Windsor because of its history and excellent ratings. This is a lovely, historic hotel built in 1892 and many famous people have stayed here over the years, from Presidents Roosevelt and Carter, to Ty Cobb and Shoeless Joe Jackson, to Al Capone, and more recently Kelly Clarkson. The rooms are large, comfortable, and spotlessly clean. My good friend and I along with our kids had two adjoining double queen rooms and were very comfortable. Each room has a mini fridge, a Keurig, a ceiling fan, a flat screen TV with HBO, and very comfy beds. The interior of the hotel is absolutely stunning with hand carved wood and antique furnishings. There are three restaurants - a high end restaurant called Rosemary and Thyme, a pub called Floyd's, and a sweet shop. We were with kids so we chose the pub for dinner and it was very good - great burgers and fries and salads. There is free and ample parking on the streets around the hotel. The staff at the Windsor were so friendly and so helpful - they gave us a map of the area, a historic driving tour map, and when they found out we were going to Sunday School in Plains, detailed directions to the church and very helpful instructions on how to make sure to get in as it's a very popular event! They also told us where to eat breakfast before church as not a lot was open the time of day that we'd need to have breakfast. The 3rd floor of the hotel is supposedly haunted but we didn't run into any ghosts! Definitely stay here if you are in the area and be transported back in time.

The first place you should stop is at the visitors Center. It is just down from the Windsor Hotel. We walked around the little town and saw a lot of the old buildings. The Windsor Hotel was built around 1892. It is now a Best Western. We didn't stay here, but wanted to see the architecture. It is on quiet streets with a lot of little stores and restaurants. It is a lovely town.

25/07/2016

Americus is a beautiful town with a downtown area that is at the beginnings of revitalization. The Windsor Hotel, although branded as a Best Western, works hard to remain the historic property it once was. We loved the lobby and historic photos. Our room had a VERY unlevel floor but we decided it was charming. There is a bar on the 2nd floor and Saturday night was quite loud until the wee hours of the morning but we knew the property was sold out for a wedding and we went with the flow. The front desk staff were very professional and helpful. We enjoyed the bar also.

Great experience staying at the Windsor. Free parking, large rooms, nice people. For the price a continental breakfast would of been an added plus. However the hotel offers a bit of historic ambiance that you would not get in any other place.

"Worth Going Out of Your Way For"

5
10/07/2016

The Windsor Hotel made for a memorable stay in Americus. The staff at check-in was pleasant and offered a map of historic homes when my husband mentioned that we planned to explore the town. We stayed in the Bridal Suite and my parents stayed in the Presidential Suite, both were lovely and affordably priced. The hotel is well-renovated, updated nicely with granite countertops, flat panel TVs, etc., but still maintaining the original history and appeal. There is a slight musty odor in the hallway, particularly by the elevator, but I didn't notice that in our rooms or the other public areas of the hotel. While this hotel is not on any of our usual travel routes, it's certainly worth going a bit out of the way for.

This is a large room with a king size bed, a Keurig Coffee Maker, and has a very good view of Jackson Street. The house keeping staff did a great job of keeping the entire hotel clean. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is located in the heart of the historic downtown district. There are several restaurants located within the hotel. The hotel is located within easy driving distance of Plains and Andersonville, GA. We will definitely stay at this hotel again.

06/07/2016

We stayed at this location a second time and will stay at it again in the future. We love this hotel. The hotel is located in the center of everything in Americus. It is fun to be able to walk around and enjoy all this little town has to offer.

"Cleanliness is NOT overrated"

05/07/2016

This hotel staff needs to do a better job of cleaning the rooms at this location. I showed pictures of a caked on substance in the shower, coffee splatters, mold ring around the toilet, hair in the shower and floor, etc. We ran out of TP in the bathroom and there was none in the room. It was a disaster. I understand that the hotel is old, the furnishings are old, the floor is old, but come on... I don't think that anyone cleaned this room. I cannot say that I will return, ever.

"Best option around"

04/07/2016

Best option if you're coming to Americus or Plains. Rooms are spacious and you get some K cups for coffee. The bar on the second floor is a good spot and a lot of locals will come out on the weekends too. There is plenty of free street parking around the hotel and there are a bunch of shops and a few little restaurants on the street.

"Close to Andersonville Historical Site"

02/07/2016

We booked the Windsor at the closed gate to Andersonville Historical Site, where we arrived too late to tour. We were at the hotel in under ten minutes. The outside of the hotel was unique and the inside didn't disappoint. We were on a historical tour of a few states, and the hotel unknowingly fit the theme. The front desk clerk was super friendly, asking us about our trip and suggesting the restaurant and pub to fill our night. After checking into our well appointed room, we headed to the pub on the second floor, had appetizers recommended by the bartender, watched a little sports, and spent some relaxing time on the rocking chairs outside the pub overlooking the city. The Windsor Hotel changed our trip from unfortunate to memorable! Would definitely return.

My husband and I were on a road trip with no particular destination in mind. We came to Americus, Ga to see the Civil War Park. So we made last minute reservations. Not really knowing what we would find. It is right in the middle of town, where you can walk around and enjoy yourself. Visit numerous shops or restaurants. We were also presently surprised at the beautiful building and all the history they had kept in it. The staff was awesome. So nice and helpful. Like AMERICA use to be everywhere. Our room was spacious and very clean. Really can't say enough good stuff about this treasure we found. We would defiantly and highly recommend staying here. We will definitely be back.

Enjoyed the stay. The hotel was built in the early 1890s so it has the look and feel of the era. We stayed in an executive suite and were pleased with it. The room had a small refrigerator and microwave. The shower had excellent water pressure which was not expected for a hotel of this age.

"A rare find Best Western"

27/06/2016

This restored hotel was a treat to visit. It was clean and furnished well as a restored building. Desk clerk was readily willing to move us when we discovered a lump of dirt in the middle of the crisp and clean white bed cover. We think that the dirt had come through a vent in the ceiling directly over the bed. Given the overall cleanliness and attention to detail, I am confident that the vent in this room was cleaned post haste after we vacated that initial room. We ate in the dining room at the hotel and thoroughly enjoyed dinner. Enjoyed envisioning FDR addressing the group gathered there in his pre-Presidential years. Would definitely happily return. (Neither saw nor heard any evidence of the hauntedness of the hotel ... Darn!)

This old historic hotel has been beautifully restored and we loved our visit. The hotel was fresh smelling, beautiful, restful and offered excellent dining and had a great lounge area. You could sit outside on the balcony and overlook the city. Best word to describe this hotel is breathtaking! The staff were friendly, helpful and pleasant when answering questions or offering suggestions. Would recommend this hotel to anyone. Absolutely loved it!!

We stayed 3 nights for a family reunion gathering. Overall the hotel was very nice and the staff was very friendly, helpful and accommodating!! The only issue I had was the smell of the hotel!! It was very stinky in the hallways, elevator and rooms! It smelled moldy!! It was a very nice stay other than the smell.

This was the second time we stayed at the Windsor. It is worth the drive. This stately hotel has been kept up so well. The lobby area is breathtaking. The rooms are all beautifully appointed. You feel as if you are walking back in time to a more quiet, elegant time. The restoration is just wonderful. Don't miss the dining experience in Rosemary and Thyme. Great food and exceptional service. As a matter of fact the entire staff at the hotel was exceptional. The only issue we had was noise. There was a wedding the weekend we were there and some of the guests seem to have enjoyed Floyd's afterward. No fault of the hotel, but it was disappointing. Io would have given a 5 rating otherwise. I would certainly go back and would recommend the hotel to anyone planning to visit the area.

We also would like to assure you that we do have additional security staff on the weekends and I will speak to them to ensure that they are speaking with rowdy guests. However, it is wonderful to hear that you otherwise enjoyed not only your room stay but our restaurant as well. On your next trip be sure to look for a few new menu items. Nice hotel, very victorian, nice rooms and service. Internet is free and works good. Didn't use their restaurant so I can't give an opinion on that. Only complaint is that the front desk lady kept me waiting for a long time when I was trying to check in while she was on the phone. Didn't even make eye contact with me.

HistoricWindsorHotel, General Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Windsor Hotel Americus, responded to this review
Dear Claudia B, Thank you for taking the time out to review your recent stay with us. I want to first and foremost apologize for the situation you encountered at check in. I have personally spoken with that desk clerk and let her know that ,no matter what, we should always acknowledge the incoming guest and signal that we will be right with them. Although it may get a little hectic at times, our guests are our first priority and of the utmost importance and should always feel as such. If there is anything further I can do to rectify the situation or make your next stay exceptional, please do not hesitate to let me know. Sincerely, Vic Patel General Manager

"Classic southern elegance"

10/06/2016

We were told this would be best bet in Americus. This 1890's restored hotel is a gem. Restoration thoroughly modernized the property but retained all the great original features, like stairways, ivory tiled floors in restaurant, woodwork, etc... We stayed in the Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter presidential suite. It was HUGE and indescribably elegant, and inexpensive! Excellent restaurants on-site also.

Had a wonderful time visiting this grand old hotel. Stepping off the elevator onto the second floor balcony was a step back in time. Walk through a windowed, large oak door down a long hall lit by victorian brass sconces. If you squint you can see the chambermaids gliding from room to room. The period furniture-even the beds- were comfortable. The chandeliers, interesting photos and historic details sent me back to a world that is no more. Had a time to just breathe after a rough week at work. Photos of room and a nearby shop's display in window. Front desk lady was very helpful and pleasant.

05/06/2016

If you're into history, this is your place. It was nice for a historic hotel. As such, navigating the stairs to the third floor were a bit cumbersome with bags, specifically the stairs from the second to third floor. They narrowed significantly. The room was nicely decorated (again, in renovated fashion). We didn't have trouble with noise as I read in other reviews, we must have gotten a well located room (in the tower).

"Could be better"

If you like history that will most likely be what draws you to the Windsor. All in all it is a nice place. The restaurant has excellent food. Some things that surprised me was that a hotel of this caliber did not even offer coffee in the lobby for the guest in the morning. I ask for extra coffee for my room coffee pot and was told I would have to pay for anymore that was not in the room upon arrival. There was no seating on the second floor common balcony which I found kinda odd it was such a nice place. We wound up taking seating out of the sitting area and taking out side to sit.

HistoricWindsorHotel, General Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Windsor Hotel Americus, responded to this review
Dear Felix D , Thank you for taking the time out to review your recent stay with us. I would like to apologize for falling short of your expectations in some areas. Although, we do not have any coffee in the lobby , our onsite restaurant does serve coffee which can be ordered to go. I am sorry that you found this to be an inconvenience but with all the lavish antiques and replicas in the lobby we feel it best to serve coffee in the dining areas. In regards to our third floor veranda, I would like to thank you for the suggestion to add some seating for guest. Typically this veranda is used as a smoking veranda which is why we have previously decided to keep it unfurnished. However , with our new room changes and higher third floor occupancies we will definitely look into adding some seating. We truly appreciate all of your comments and suggestions as they help us to continuously grow and improve. I hope that you will give us another chance in the future. If there is anything else we can do to help meet and hopefully exceed your expectations on your next stay, please do not hesitate to let me know. Sincerely, Vic Patel General Manager

My friend and I were on a road trip after having attended a funeral. We decided to visit Plains and Andersonville. While riding thru the back roads of Florida and Georgia, I looked for a hotel. Having stayed at a BW Plus property before, I was intrigued by the Windsor. What a lovely property! Thank you Best Western for bringing it back to life. Beautiful lobby and restaurant. Wonderful, comfortable room. The windows are just fascinating. Reasonably priced and helpful staff.

"Grand Hotel"

24/05/2016

Americus is a bit off the beaten path, but this hotel is certainly worth a little side trip if you like charming, historic hotels. This is simply grand! Unfortunately, we arrived too late to enjoy the bar or the restaurant, but my boyfriend stayed here about a month ago and raved about both. Excellent menu with upscale twists on classic southern cuisine. The bar has porch access, so you can either enjoy the old fashioned bar atmosphere, or take your drink out on the veranda. Definitely a place to relax and decompress from a trip. The room was spacious, bed was super comfy, bathroom all up to date, no problems with plumbing. Can't wait to return!!

We stayed on New Year's Eve and had problems with rowdy and noisy guests. The hotel did what they could to make it right. The hotel itself is a great historical property. We had stayed there once before and probably would return again, but not on New Year's Eve. Restaurant was very good both for dinner and for breakfast.

Don't let Best Western in the title keep you from staying at this gem. The historic Windsor Hotel was built in the late 1800's and many famous people have stayed here. The Hotel is gorgeous and has been fully remodeled. The beds are plush and luxurious. The hotel has a super bar and wonderful restaurant. Don't forget to stop by the visitors center next door. They have maps with all of the beautiful old homes and other historic locations. I plan to come back to Americus when I am not on business to see more of the sights!!!

Don't let the name Best Western Windsor fool you. This hotel was built in the late 1800 and has been fully restored. The bedding is superb!!! Don't miss the wonderful bar overlooking the downtown area. The restaurant is top notch. The wine list is very good. This was a business trip and I would definitely come back to spend more time in Americus. What a pleasant surprise. Stop by the visitors center next door to hear all about the local history--they even have bikes to rent.

This hotel was incredible! The town is not huge, but the Windsor is in the middle of it, and everyone in the town is as happy and helpful as can be. The exterior of the hotel has an old but very clean look. Inside the lobby is huge with wood all around. The hotel is super clean, staff is super nice, and the rooms were the best! There is a nice restaurant and a sports bar. We did not eat there, but there is a nice hole in the wall seafood restaurant down the road, where the food was fantastic. We also visited the Habitat for Humanity down the street. This city and hotel is the perfect get-a-way for a weekend. The rate is more than reasonable for this hotel. I will definitely be back!

What a gem! The beautifully renovated hotel is charming, the staff is friendly, and the rooms very comfortable. High beds and period decor give an old world feel to your stay. "more like a Bed & Breakfast than a Best Western ...."

29/04/2016

This past January we fled the east coast snowstorms and took off for the low country. Out final stop was in Americus on a Saturday night. Our plan was to visit Plains on Sunday to attend Jimmy Carter's Sunday School class (which we did). Overall, this is one of the nicest hotels I've stayed at in the Best Western chain. This hotel in particular, the unique character of this old hotel and one of a kind furnishings, was more like a Bed & Breakfast than a Best Western. The only ding I can mention is the absence of a breakfast buffet. They have a nice restaurant with ala carte service ... but I've grown used to a very predictable (and fast) opportunity to serve myself, eat, and be on the road in 5 minutes. The ala carte breakfast was quite good; It's just that my expectation from Best Westerns is a FAST, predictable breakfast buffet. All and all, this is an excellent hotel. We will be back again.

HistoricWindsorHotel, General Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Windsor Hotel Americus, responded to this review
Dear jeffjones426, Thank you for taking the time out to review your recent stay with us. I am pleased to hear that our hotel was able to provide some solace from the snowstorms back home. It is wonderful that you were able to have a fun filled weekend in the area. Especially the treat of attending President Carter's Sunday School class. I am sorry to hear that you felt we fell short of providing a fast and convenient breakfast. For any future visits, be sure to ask our check in staff about ordering the express breakfast option. The express option ,allows you to order a croissant breakfast sandwich and drink the night before and choose a time for a to go pick up. Hopefully ,this express option will prove more ideal for someone on the go ,such as yourself. If there is anything else that we can do to help make your next stay a perfect 10/10 , please do not hesitate to let us know. Sincerely, Vic Patel General Manager

"Beautiful hotel, lovely restaurant, horrid room! Don't stay in Room 333!!"

26/04/2016

We were so impressed by the beauty of the Windsor when we entered the lobby. Our check-in hostesses were very friendly and accommodating and even made great meal recommendations for dinner in the restaurant. We were sure we were going to have a lovely evening to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary. We entered our room, 333. The room is large and beautifully decorated. We noticed the floor was really slanted but it's an old hotel so we didn't think too much of it. We left the room to explore the hotel and have an early dinner in the Rosemary and Tyme dining room. Dinner was lovely. We also stopped by the bar for perfectly made after dinner martinis. Our lovely evening ended there. Our room was not only the "worst slanted room" (quoting the hostess when we checked out) but the noisiest room because it was located next to all the outdoor air conditioning units on the roof outside our windows. We didn't sleep a wink. When we complained at checkout and told the hostess we had requested a quiet room when we made the reservation she said she couldn't find the request because we made it through Expedia so there was nothing she could do. She intimated that Room 333 was the worst King room. The hotel was not crowded and they still put us in THE WORST King room! DO NOT STAY IN ROOM 333! We would rate hotel higher if not for the extremely noisy room.

This is an old hotel for the usa. The reception hall is grand. The rooms are comfortable and the bathrooms may be a modern afterthought bit are still sizable and we laid out. The staff are friendly and helpful. The room coffee is the best I have come across. Dinning and afternoon tea is simple as you do not have to leave the airconditioned building. In fact the sweet smell of cakes is the first thing I noticed as I walked in. The wifi is strong and reliable but some thought is needed to improve the number and location of power outlets.

My son and I are Civil War Reenactors who came to town to tour Andersonville Prison. We stumbled upon this historical hotel and just had to spend the night. We stayed on the 3rd floor I believe off to the left little corridor in room with 10 ft ceilings and beautiful bedding. I immediately felt the presence of something, could not put my finger on it. I told my son, it felt like same spirits we felt in our old house(1863 home), and felt slightly comforted. We left our room, went to eat and were not surprised to hear that the paranormal TV show had spent the night in our corridor. Apparently a young pregnant maid was pushed to her death in the elevator shaft, and she walks the hallways at night. I said my prayers before bed and we had no issues, however, I did show prayerful reverence to this poor young woman. Please be respectful in these old hotels and battlefields, as they are truly hallowed ground for lives cut short. I will always come back to the same hotel when visiting Americus...

I felt like I traveled back in time with a modern feel. This place is as clean as any hotel I have stayed and the employee's are as nice as any. Several restaurants to walk to or you can have great food at the hotel in a formal or casual atmosphere. Be sure to read the history on the internet before going. It has been noted as haunted. We stayed in room 335 and did hear some questionable noises but not as I would describe as haunted. Find out later that the hall we were on does experience the most "activity" of past spirits. It wasn't creepy but more interesting. The modern décor probably keeps it from being creepy. If you are traveling through Georgia on Interstate 75, I highly recommend getting off the path (maybe about 20 miles) and enjoying some southern hospitality at its best.

"Not loving it"

This place is kind of creepy old. The rooms are high ceiling with pipes visible. Decoration is dated. Temperature difficult to control. The hotel staff recommended a restaurant in town that was an absolute pit. Wifi not very good.

This is no ordinary Best Western. It's a beautiful old hotel with a history. Everywhere you look, you can feel it, from the grand lobby area to the quaint dining room. I felt special just staying there.

"Great place to stay"

Charming and warm, definitely inviting and comfortable. I was there on business but would love to stay here for pleasure and visit some of the local stores downtown. Breakfast was wonderful and the menu for dinner looked delicious and plan to eat dinner there the next time I am in town. Renovated Victorian hotel with beautiful décor, a pastry shop attached- you could smell the confectionary baking when you wake up- helpful staff and very charming rooms and large balconies on each floor.

"Lovely stay in Americus"

06/04/2016

Hubs and I went to Americus this past Sunday for a nice short getaway. He booked the Jimmy Carter suite which is on the second third floor of the turret. It was a lovely huge round (of course ??) room, complete with a comfy sofa, two easy chairs, two large storage pieces (one which served as the closet; the other, a highboy, with storage shelves and drawers), a frig, microwave, and a Keurig. The large bathroom had a wonderful shower (I'm picky about water pressure--many choices ??) and a makeup mirror. The king bed was quite comfortable and had a step for shorty--me!! Don't expect to eat at any of the restaurants on Sunday evening though. The entire hotel is beautifully restored. You can read about its history online. The ONLY thing that I could say was slightly off putting was the smells: upon entering the lobby, there is a cloyingly sweet vanilla/sugar cookie smell. Also, upon entering our suite, there was a combination curry and some other unidentifiable aroma. Happily I became acclimated to it quickly---didn't bother D (he says I'm too picky ??). I'd love to return here, maybe at Christmas time??

"Outstanding Food and Service"

We went on a last minute Trip because we want to attend Jimmy Carters bible school class. We came Saturday afternoon and were met by a wonderful young lady handling our check in. Everything went well then she asked what else she could do. We said we would like have a different bed and although the hotel was full she immediate started looking and noticed the person standing next to us was canceling just the bed we wanted! The clerk went on to give us all the information we needed to see the bible study in the morning and even suggested an Elton John Tribute theater across the street. We end up attending and it was just fantastic! We ate dinner in the restaurant In the hotel and that was a gem! My wife and I had an appetizer, she had a glass of wine, we each had a meal and our total was less than $50! Wow, outstanding service, great food, breath taking setting, I can't think of anything I would change. When we came in from the show that night we had left the heat off and it was a little cool in our room. We checked with the front desk and the GM (Vic) offered to bring a space heater to our room just in case. 5 minutes later he had it hooked up, running and my wife couldn't be happier! My wife and I travel around the world and this was one of the best overall experiences we have had at a hotel. Top that off with a restaurant menu that was over the top with complex flavors and this is truly an award worthy package. Vic and his team have all done and outstanding job. We can't wait to visit them again.

"Floyd's Pub"

02/04/2016

It was 4:55, but the clock in the lobby was closer to 4:58, and the main restaurant looked open, so my boyfriend and I went over to Floyd's and walked all the way in, sat down and the bartender woman goes "Welllllllll we are not OPEN yet,,,,,so,,,," So we got up and went towards the door. Then she says "You can come back ...or go stand on the balcony". Like, if you think I am going to walk out, wait 4 and a half minutes and then walk back in, you are INSANE. We went to Pat's Place and had a good laugh and really good pizza.

Great staff and nice and clean! One of the best small town hotels I have ever stayed in! Beautiful Old hotel with great food and able to walk the town. Great restaurant just up the street, The Station. We had filet, twice baked potato, salad, 2 beers each all for less than $55.00. This is a great hotel!

"5-star service"

5
28/03/2016

We enjoyed our first stay at the Windsor and want to commend Tara for her outstanding efforts to make our visit a good one. When checking in, I let her know my 12-year-old forgot to bring his iPad adaptor and asked if by any chance there might be one he could use. She blew us away by saying she had to go home and come back, and when she did she would bring one he could use. Amazing gesture by her to make sure we were happy. Tara also was our server in the grand dining room and again was outstanding. (So was the salmon, by the way.) The historic hotel is impressive with all the original woodwork, but the service was the star of the show.

A friend of mine and I stayed two nights at the Windsor while visiting Andersonville Prison Site/Cemetery and the National POW Museum. The location of the hotel was splendid with a few adorable little shops within walking distance on the square. The hotel and rooms are historic and beautiful. The staff was very friendly and took their time to answer all our questions about the hotel, the alleged ghost(s), and the Americus area.

Wonderful stay. The staff and facilities are first class. Stayed here on the way back from Florida. My wife and I were both very impressed. I have stayed at this property at times over the past 15 years but not recently. It was great in the past and is better today. I happened to meet the General Manager at check in and he was more than generous with his time. As you can tell from their website, it is more than a bit unusual as Best Westerns go. More importunately, if you can make sure you get there in time for an evening meal. The Rosemary & Thyme Restaurant is a a wonderful compliment to the hotel and Floyd's Pub is a great way to start the afternoon or evening.

I really don't want to tell you how much I love this hotel, because I don't want to make getting a reservation difficult due to popularity. BUT! I would travel to Americus, GA, just to stay in this hotel! The restaurant is AMAZING, the rooms are quiet, clean and comfortable. The hotel's charm is off the chart! There is so much to do and see in the area. I recommend Andersonville, and the POW museum, and of course, Plains, where President Carter lives and teaches Sunday school at Marantha Baptist Church.

I wanted a hotel for one night between North Florida and Atlanta. Americus was therefore chosen on location. The Windsor hotel had good trip advisor ratings so I booked it for one night. On arrival one realised it was a was a splendid building, no obvious car park, but lots of free parking on the road, right by the entrance (There is parking around the other side of the hotel). We were greeted well at reception and then went to our room. A well equipped, comfortable room and bath room. The hotel had last been refurbished only a few years ago. It is difficult to describe the hotel to give it justice, but the main area is a large atrium, with balconies around the 2nd and 3rd floors. For dinner we ate in the bar, and breakfast was a magnificent dining room. Very good service, and very sensible prices. It would be worth a long detour to find an excuse to stay here again. Don't to put off because it is a Best Western hotel, it is a very good hotel

This hotel is just fabulous. The architecture, the pictures with history on the walls, the staff, all were really great and made us feel welcome. This hotel is GORGEOUS! I was here for my best friends wedding. A little confusing for a small town girl trying to figure out where the hotel was and where in the world to park. I love the antique feel to this hotel, I hope ya'll don't ever change a thing, it felt very homey! There was a play going on during my stay but I missed it! I work at a BW also, but this one makes me think we need to step our game up!!! Hope to stay here again in the future!!! -Also, I have to say that the housekeepers who work here do an amazing job! Everything in the room looked brand new, and that is including their bathroom!

I had a wonderful, relaxing stay at the historic Best Western Plus Windsor Hotel. It is a beautiful property but what truly sets it apart are the people who work there. Floyd, who works in the hotel restaurant, greeted us with a smile every morning and was the most attentive, friendliest and most thoughtful waiter I have even encountered. The food was delicious for both breakfast and dinner. I'm so glad I had the chance to stay at this lovely hotel.

In so many categories, I wished there was a way to express that this was better than excellent! Walking into the lobby was like walking into a time of long ago so we were initially struck by the beauty of the BW Plus Windsor Hotel. The rooms were clean and neatly appointed; the comfort of the premium bedding package was a big surprise; and the entire staff at the desk and in the restaurants were very helpful. We were there on a history tour of Andersonville but we will be back to see and enjoy more of Americus and we will stay at BW Plus Windsor Hotel!

Amazing restoration of a beautiful historic hotel. Very comfortable rooms, Cool, leaning creaky floors. Beautiful archetecrtural details, wood work. Haunted? I doubt. The restaurant good. The hotel desk failed to communicate reservations to the restaurant but the restaurant staff accommodated just as we were about to go ape. Our room was noisy, over the kitchen so we were glad to have earplugs. Always travel w earpligs. Of course we would stay there again and would recommend.

"Always amazing"

20/02/2016

I returned to the Windsor this weekend to attend a college reunion of sorts (lots of old geezers in attendance including myself). I have stayed at this hotel many times and it seems that every time I do, I am always amazed at its' elegance and charm. It has a special atmosphere that, due to it's age and history, very few hotels, especially in Georgia, can ever have. As you walk the halls, you can only imagine how it was during the hotel's early years, feel grateful that it has been restored and that one can still enjoy this building. While it certainly has the modern conveniences we expect in a hotel, the Windsor offers a unique journey into the past that Americus and those of us who appreciate this wonderful hotel are very fortunate to have.

"Such elegance!"

We were on our way to Florida for Christmas and strayed off the beaten path to go through Americus and we are so glad we did. The staff at the Windsor were so friendly. We had planned ahead to attend Sunday school and worship in Plains with former President Jimmy Carter. Using a travel website, it became evident that the Best Western Plus in Americus was a good choice for a premium hotel. The room, the resaurant, the ambiance were all a delight in a small southern town. Highly recommend the restaurant for dinner.

08/02/2016

We spent two nights at the Windsor when we went to attend church at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, GA, and listen to former President Jimmy Carter teach his Sunday school class. It was our second time staying at the Windsor, but the first since it has become part of the Best Western family. I've stayed in quite a few Best Western hotels, but none like this historic old inn. Our stay was very pleasant. Just spending the night at the Windsor is a rewarding experience. Its like stepping back in time. It is a beautiful hotel on the national register of historic places and is worth going to Americus just to visit and stay at the Windsor.

"Beautiful, historic hotel"

Such a beautiful hotel. Great spot for a get away and/or visit to Plains. Don't let the Best Western name fool you. This place is one of a kind. And do try the restaurant Rosemary & Thyme. Great food at very reasonable prices.

We enjoyed our stay after visiting the Andersonville National Park. The Windsor still retains the charm of 1892 complete with Georgia pine and Italian flooring. We enjoyed dinner at the Rosemary and Thyme on site restaurant. Afterwards we enjoyed a drink from the bar on the outdoor balcony. The rooms were clean and decorated keeping with the charm of the era but with modern conveniences.

"A very uncomfortable and disturbing stay"

1
28/01/2016

We stayed at the Windsor Hotel on December 31, 2015. We had previously stayed at this hotel and had enjoyed it and wanted to return. Unfortunately, we were very uncomfortable and unhappy with our stay and the hotel has yet to address the issue with us, despite an employee's assurance that they would do so. Our evening started out well with a lovely dinner in the on site restaurant. We retired to our room around midnight - the loud band in the lobby was not really our thing, but we were located far enough away that we had a nice quiet room. But not for long. The couple in the room across from us came back to their room about 12:10 and proceeded to drunkenly shout, slam doors, come out in the hall and yell at each other. I tried to call the hotel desk from both an inside and an outside line and no one ever answered in over an hour of trying. In retrospect I wish I had called the police directly - this was obviously a domestic incident which I was not about to get into the middle of. At about 1:30 there was a lull in the action and I dressed and went to the lobby where I tried to get someone at the desk to help me. Someone did come up to the hall after I went back up, but I don't know if they even talked to anyone or if the other people had just passed out by then. My husband and I were extremely uncomfortable and extremely disturbed at having been trapped in our room with no access to hotel staff for help. In the morning we asked to speak with a manager. No one was on site. At the time of our check out we spoke with Cynthia who said that she would follow up on the incident and would get back to us. She stated that she would automatically give us a 25% discount and stressed that she would follow up with management and would get back to us. Four weeks later - there was no credit on our credit card statement and we have not heard a word from the hotel.

HistoricWindsorHotel, Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Windsor Hotel Americus, responded to this review
Dear travelermom, I apologize about the night stay that you had while with us. We did review the incident with Cynthia when it occurred and have come up with ways to help prevent this for the future New Year's Eve Bash. She did post the discount. You won't see it as a credit or refund because she applied it directly to your folio before charging your card. I can go over it with you if you would like. Again, I apologize for this incident. I did leave you a message, I hope we have the right phone number on file. Please give me a call at 229-924-1555 dial 2 to get to me directly if you would like to further discuss. Thank you, Divya Patel Manager

this was a very nice hotel I enjoyed the place and would stay again. I don't like being forced to make my comment be 200 characters long when i could say all i needed to say in just a couple of words.

"Excellent hotel!"

This is a beautiful hotel. It's been there since 1897 but renovated in the late 1990's I think. There is an upscale restaurant in the hotel and a nice bar. We just had a couple of drinks and french fries in the bar. Our room was spacious with 2 double beds, a microwave, refrigerator and lots of space to move around in. If you're plan is to visit Jimmy Carter's Sunday school class, it's worth it to stay here and drive the 15 miles rather than stay in Plains.

HistoricWindsorHotel, General Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Windsor Hotel Americus, responded to this review
Dear Elizabeth M, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review. I am glad that you enjoyed your visit and we look forward to seeing you again soon. We do offer tours that have to be booked two weeks in advance. During the tour you will see parts of the hotel that are otherwise off limits to the public in addition to learnig in depth the history of the hotel. Please do not hesitate to let us know if there is anything that we can do to make your next trip even better. Sincerely, General Manager Vic Patel

"Chemical Overload"

24/01/2016

Very impressed with the ambiance and history of hotel. After years of visits to Americus, looking forward to spending the night here surrounded by its architectural, historical beauty we finally stayed. Unfortunately, the cleaning solutions were strong in the first room, my wife and children had to help to a second room after clerk refused a refund. The next morning we awoke in a small out of the way room overlooking an alleyway. This was followed by a great breakfast in the spacious restaurant. Thus, if you are chemical sensitive go to the Plains Hotel in nearby Plains. Otherwise stay and enjoy the ambiance and breakfast.

HistoricWindsorHotel, General Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Windsor Hotel Americus, responded to this review
Dear Marvin A, I am extremely sorry that you and your family were inconvenienced during your stay by the harsh odors from our cleaning supplies. We are going to search for a solution to that issue so that no future guests will have the same unpleasant experience. We are very happy that you enjoyed your stay otherwise and had a good experience in Rosemary and Thyme for breakfast. We hope you will consider staying with us again in the future. Sincerely, Vic Patel General Manager

"This is the place in Americus, GA"

24/01/2016

Yes it is the place. In the cnter of town and close to restaurants and shopping. Or maybe, just exploring. The lobby is opulent, reminiscent of the early 20th century hotels. The room was comfortable, clean and decorated beautifully. Highly recommend.

"Go back in time"

21/01/2016

This hotel, built in 1892 is among the most beautiful and comfortable anywhere. We checked in than had a drink on the balcony overlooking the city. Rooms are attractive and updated thoughtfully. The hotel restaurant is classically beautiful and the food is tasty and not pricey. Several presidents spoke or stayed here. We found the staff helpful and attentive. This place is an amazing step back in time. If you are visiting Jimmy Carter country or the Andersonville National Historic Park, this stay is a must.

"Best Historic Hotel"

21/01/2016

The Windsor Hotel in Americus, Georgia is the best hotel in all of Georgia. Everyone should stay at the Windsor. It is a magnificent Victorian era hotel. You feel like you have gone back in time or on a movie set. The hotel is absolutely breath taking. Even more amazing is the fact that Windsor is located in the heart of a beautiful small southern town. There is so much history all around you ready to be explored. The hotel staff is great. They are polite, friendly, and helpful. The bar is great and veranda outside of the bar is amazing. They even have wicker rocking chairs. Make sure to eat breakfast. The dining room is amazing and with the rising sun fills with morning light. My friend said she felt like she was eating breakfast in the movie the Titanic because the room was so impressive. Overall, 5 stars.

"Great Night Stay"

19/01/2016

This is a beautiful hotel built in 1892. It was like taking a step back in time. We enjoyed llearning about its history and the desk clerks shared some haunting stories. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were clean. Will absolutely stay here again.

18/01/2016

A great property. This is a historic inn and has been nicely updated. We had a king room which I believe is one of two; it is interior and had no view which was inconsequential; the air compressors were outside the windows which caused us some concern, this was not a problem when we went to sleep. We enjoyed the historic information hung on the walls of the lobby and common areas. A good stay.

"The place to stay in Americus"

17/01/2016

Wonderful historic hotel with great service. Spent a Saturday night here to go to Plains (11 miles away) for Preseident Carter's Sunday School class. The hotel is beautifully restored. The rooms were like going back in time, very comfortable bed, and with nice amenities - Keurig coffeemaker, bath and body works toiletries, and free wifi that was actually good! Had a great dinner in their restaurant, Rosemay and Thyme. Excellent wine list. Everyone on the staff, up to and including manager Vic that checked me in, were friendly and responsive. Highly recommend this unique experience.

This is a lovely historic hotel. The staff was excellent and the rooms well appointed. The floors do slope, but you must expect that in a building over a hundred years old! The beds were very comfortable. I enjoyed my stay and will be returning.

12/01/2016

I found this hotel about 3 years ago and I'd never stay anywhere else since, when traveling to Americus, GA. It has everything I need and it is so different from other hotels. It is a beautiful piece of history that has been carefully preserved. I love the slanted staircase, the lounge, the restaurant, the lobby, the huge balcony. The General Manager is extremely customer focused. He has gone out of his way for me to make sure my stay is comfortable on more than one occasion.

"GREAT STAY"

5
12/01/2016

A tremendous property. For us it was a luxury hotel at half the cost. The restaurant was so affordable and food so good we ate there throughout our stay. The bar has a happy hour. The staff was top notch. The room was big. General Mgr.Vic took a lot of time to talk with us and answer questions about the property and the area. The hotel is a real jewel.

"An Amazing Experience-Stepping Back in Time"

11/01/2016

Trip was to visit the President Jimmy Carter Historical Site in Plains , GA and to attend Sunday School at the church he was teaching this Sunday. Americus is only 10-12 miles from Plains . Our stay at the Best Western Plus Windsor Hotel, to our surprise , turned out to be one of the highlights of this trip. This is not your ordinary Best Western by any stretch of the imagination--you must experience it if in the area.

"we had fun"

We only wish the food was a little better. But we will still be back. The elegance and history of the hotel is a great feel. Its much better than the new modern, no personality places everywhere else.

Honestly the hotel is pretty amazing. Loved the old time feel and the spacious rooms. The food and beer and mixed drinks were awesome. Even had a great time talking to the receptionist, who recommended several great spots. Despite this, I would say the downer on my stay here was the fact that one of the bartenders nonchalantly implied that a nearby bar was 'not a great place' because it was full of black people. Can't say that I was at all ok with that. I hope this changes in the future, as the rest of the hotel was an awesome experience.

HistoricWindsorHotel, Owner at BEST WESTERN PLUS Windsor Hotel Americus, responded to this review
Dear Hunter P, First of all, I deeply apologize about the statements that were made by our bartender it is not acceptable. We have spoken with the bartender as well as all other staff in all departments and I assure you that this will not happen again. If you would like to discuss this matter further, please feel free to give me a call at 229-924-1555 ext. 136. Thank you for your kind words about the hotel, your room, and the front desk staff. I hope you give us another chance in the future. Regards, Sharad Patel Owner

"Beautiful Historic Hotel"

We stayed at the Windsor Hotel Christmas night on our way to Nashville. This is not your daddy 's Best Western. The hotel was built in the 1800's and has undergone a beautiful restoration. The bar and restaurant were closed for the holiday so we had wine and cheese on the 2nd floor veranda on the front of the hotel. The staff were very friendly even having to work the holiday and the room was very comfortable and well equipped with a mini fridge , micro wave and Kureg coffee maker. We will definitely stay here again.

Dear John K, Thank you so much for your kind words. I am very happy to hear that you all enjoyed your visit despite our restauraunt being closed. The Windsor created a magical time for our family and friends during the Thanksgiving holiday. They catered a rehearsal dinner and accommodated many our wedding guests. All had an amazing time because of the full services provided by the hotel staff.

This hotel was beautifully restored. The lobby and guest room was just gorgeous. Wish we could have stayed longer but just passing thru while visiting Plains GA on our way to Florida. clean and good staff. comfortable. did not use restaurants.

"Great place for a wedding night"

4
22/12/2015

The service of the staff was beyond excellent. Everyone was excited for us to be there on our wedding night and repeatedly told us we were "very cute." (We're a bit beyond middle age) At our request, they took some pictures of us in the lobby and in the Rosemary and Thyme restaurant. (wonderful food and service) Only negative experience was with the staff at Floyd's Pub. Not very friendly or helpful.

"Neat Old Hotel"

18/12/2015

Old hotel built in the 1800's that you can tell was a 5 Star in its day. Very unique experience. Staff friendly, clean room, comfortable bed, free wi-fi, and very cool little restaurant with good food on the 2nd floor. Stayed on 3rd floor with no noise issues. Would definitely stay again.

"Wow they care!!!!"

14/12/2015

I was in Amefricus for a single night. The hotel lobby is large and inviting. Room clean with small frig and microwave. Coffee maker with lots of pods. My only issue was the top plug of each outlet next to thee bed did not work. There were lots of other outlets so I charged my phone on the other side of the room. Also the WiFi was weak, again not a big deal. I forgot to mention either of these as i checked out, , but when a survey arrived I mentioned both. Under a week later I got an email from the manager specifically mentioning each issue and how they addressed each to prevent it in the future. I've never received this level of service after a hotel stay. I hope to get back there soon and recommend this hotel to everyone looking for a great place to stay in Americus.

"worst experience ever!"

1
14/12/2015

Hotel is beautiful. BUT, there was a college graduation in the area and we were kept up by rowdy, drunk college students running up and down the hall, yelling foolishly for a majority of the night. Outside noise was also terrible. Ruined our experience. The morning staff did not seem to care.

"A Piece of history"

5
14/12/2015

The hotel is very nice and up to date yet historic at the same time. A Lot of history and a beautiful building as well as fantastic onsite restaurant make for a delightful stay in the small town. This is definitely THE place to stay if you are in the area

"Beautiful lobby but..."

2
13/12/2015

We were impressed when we walked into this hotel (even though parking/unloading can be a pain) because the lobby is gorgeous and it was decorated for Christmas which made it even more beautiful. But we were creeped out when we got to the room. I always pull the sheets on the beds in hotels to see if there are any obvious signs of bed bugs. Didn't see any bed bugs signs but when I pulled the sheets loose on one of the beds in our room, there was a large stain that appeared to be an old blood stain. Nasty. Mattress should have been taken out of service. We were told we got the last nonsmoking room when we checked in so we didn't ask to change rooms that night (an unpleasant night of little sleep perhaps because of this), but we reported it to the desk when we checked out the next morning. I expected to hear something back but no one from the hotel contacted me. If you stay in this admittedly beautiful hotel, I recommend you check the mattress.

"Beautiful and historic Windsor Hotel."

I was there for only one night after a long day at a funeral and visitation in Terrell County, Georgia on December 9, 2015. The staff was very gracious and we ate a late snack which was very tasty. We ate breakfast the next morning and my french toast was excellent. The service was outstanding at both meals and very patient with our questions. I would love to visit again for relaxation and to enjoy the historic nature of the hotel. The prices for meals were more than reasonable for the quality.

Very well maintained Victorian hotel in beautiful small town. Well worth the short drive off I-75 to stay in the best old hotel in South Georgia outside Savannah. Staff is friendly and helpful. Avoid rooms over the bar on weekends.

"Downtown Elegance"

29/11/2015

In historic downtown Americus, you find an old, elegant lady of a hotel - the Windsor Hotel now part of the Best Western hotel chain. Don't be mistaken, it is not your typical Best Western. Entering the lobby is like entering a movie set. The 53 guest bedrooms are decorated with period pieces, don't lack any comfort and have all the amenities one expects and needs. Checkin was quick and courteous. The staff was friendly and helpful quickly responding to requests. We stayed at the hotel on Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, the highly rated Rosemary and Thyme Restaurant was closed as were all other restaurants in the area. This was a big disappointment that we were prepared for with our own food enjoyed on the hotel's balcony. The hotel management might consider some dining options on special holidays for their guests.

HistoricWindsorHotel, General Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Windsor Hotel Americus, responded to this review
Dear WorldCitizenPortland, Thank you for your kind words regarding your recent stay. I am very glad that you found our staff accommodating and helpful. We are always delighted to server others. I do apologize for any inconvenience you may have encountered due to our restaurant being closed on Thanksgiving. We typically provide a list of local places to eat if our restaurant is closed, but we were not successful in finding any place that would be open for dinner that evening. I hope that you all will visit us again and try our delectable restaurant. If there is ever anything I can do to assist you, please do not hesitate to ask for me personally. We hope to see you again soon. Sincerely, General Manager Vic Patel

You can not find a better hotel... I have stayed at the best and worst all over the world but nothing beats the charm, personal attention and amazing beauty of this historical hotel. We met the owners years ago during one of our 4 stays at this hotel. They actually gave us a personal tour throughout the ENTIRE hotel including the basement and attic. Who does that? It was incredible. The front desk staff even remembered us from our previous stay! To think we stayed in the same hotel as President Roosevelt and President carter stayed was just so interesting. In fact, Mr. & Mrs. Carter still come to the hotel for delicious meals in the main dining room from time to time. When you stay here, you feel as though you know everyone and feel right at home from the start. The rooms are so beautiful and so CLEAN! I'm picky about the rooms I stay in while traveling and they must be clean. The Windsor is just spotless each time we visited. It is located next to the birth place of Habitat for Humanity and about 5 min to Maranatha Baptist Church where Mr. Carter holds bible study most Sundays when he is home. My 12 year old daughter loves every bit of this experience as it will impact the rest of her life. Next time, we plan to stay at the Plains Inn but only for personal friendship reasons. If you are ever passing through or have plans to attend service at Maranatha, stay at the Windsor and you will NOT be disappointed. It will be a memory to last a lifetime.

This is a very old historical hotel that has been restored to it's former glory. It is located in the historical area of town. There is a formal type dining restaurant and a smaller bar area with food available. Parking is on the street or in a small lot alongside the hotel. Many famous folks including presidents have visited or stayed here. The staff for the hotel and restaurant are very courteous and share many facts about the hotel history. The restaurant food was very good. A must stay if you are in the area. Can't wait to go back.

"Ok just don't stay on a Sunday"

11/11/2015

EVERYTHING in this town closes on Sunday (or never opens at all on Sundays), so we had to eat fast food after a 6 hour drive. Would be nice if the hotel restaurant is open on Sundays since nothing else is for travelers (it is closed all day on Sundays). The hotel was nice.

If you want to go back in time and have no worries this is the place and town. The whole town was great and nice customer service through out even at the golf course. Dining room was a real step back in time and they have excellent food. This was like travel of the simple life days and hated to leave

"Historic"

09/11/2015

Like stepping back in time when you enter from the main entrance in the front of the building. There is a side entrance you can use for a luggage cart if you can find one, and an elevator that does work. There are no rooms on the main level, which is probably good, there is a lot of activity during the day.

"Old Hotel "

4
08/11/2015

This is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever been in. It is old and has a smell but the beauty is worth it. It is in the middle of town and can be very noisy. Don't let the tourism center fool you, they seem very bicycle friendly but they are NOT, the entire town is not bike friendly and the only place to lock your bike near the hotel is next door right in front of the busy road or take it to your room every night like me. There are tons of good eats around and awesome places to shop.

"Elegant Hotel"

08/11/2015

We did not stay here but toured the lobby, looked in on the dining room and bar on the second floor. Neither were open during our visit. Lovely views from the second floor veranda. We may plan a stay next visit to Americus.

"One of the Grand Old Hotels"

5
08/11/2015

The Windsor of Americus, Georgia is certainly one of the grand old hotels in America. You cannot enter the lobby without trying to take in the beautiful old building from 1892. My wife and I have traveled the country, staying in the "old" hotels whenever possible: The Grand Hotel of Mackinac Island, The Copley Square in Boston, The Menger in San Antonio, the Broadmore in Colorado Springs, and the Brown Palace in Denver are some of our destinations. We place the Windsor in the category of must visit hotels. Besides the hotel and our room, we thoroughly enjoyed excellent upscale meals in the main restaurant (it too was beautiful), and the prices were incredibly modest. The staff was very welcoming. Our visit was for family search, and the hotel sets the mood. Located in downtown Americus, the historic hotel is just blocks from "Prince Street", named for our family. Loved the experience.

"Not only is the hotel beautiful the service is amazing!"

5
05/11/2015

The hotel is absolutely beautiful and the employees are great. I highly recommend you dine at their Restaurant "Rosemary & Thyme!" Unbelievable dining experience; you would think you are royalty the way they take care of you, yet the food prices are so inexpensive, but absolutely delicious!

"A Gem!"

5
05/11/2015

This beautiful hotel is a delight! Full of history and beautiful inside and out! It is well over 100 years old so, sure the floor may creak or slope a bit, but the experience of staying here is definitely worth it! Very clean and very comfortable hotel! The on site restaurant and pub are both excellent in quality and value!

"Historical hotel"

04/11/2015

Historical hotel that has been renovated. Rooms are very nice although the floors squeaked a little. Really a treat in a quiet town. Very close to Plains, Ga, home of Jimmy Carter. Best hotel in area. Carter family has attended many function at this hotel.

"You will not believe it is a Best Western"

5
02/11/2015

We were planning a trip to see Jimmy Carter in Plains, Georgia. I was actually searching for a hotel where I could use my points to pay for the room. The Windsor came up as a Best Western. Let me tell you, this may be a Best Western, but it is not what you would normally expect! This is one of their Plus hotels. It is actually a restored 1890's era hotel. We were very impressed with what we found on arrival. The lobby is an elegant example of that era. Beautifully done. Our room was huge, with high ceilings, a walk in closet and generous bathroom. We had a room with a beautiful king size bed that was very comfortable. Linens were of a good quality as were the towels. While it was over 80 degrees outside and quite humid, the air conditioning made it nice and frigid for sleeping. The shower was very nice with really hot water and good pressure. Within the hotel there is also an elegant restaurant as well as an ice cream parlor, a pub (also old world elegant) and a bistro. The restaurant was fantastic. And, considering the quality was very reasonably priced. I highly recommend that you stay at this hotel if you are ever in the area. It would be worth a trip to the area just to stay here!

"Quirky and fun"

4
02/11/2015

The Windsor Hotel in Americus , Georgia is a delight. Quirky and fun, it evokes a Victorian feel. The rooms on the third floor have sloping floors, but that does not deter from the hotel's appeal. Don't expect a modern institutional look. This hotel was originally built in 1892. The linen wall paper and marble floor in the lobby evoke the atmosphere of grand hotels of the era.

"Lovely Historical Hotel"

5
01/11/2015

Staying at the Windsor was a truly lovely experience. The charm of the old hotel was amazing. The staff, from the front desk, to Floyd's Pub, to the wonderful Rosemary and Thyme Dining Room were all professional and yet friendly. My room was very comfortable with all amenities and beautifully decorated. I did have a room facing Lamar Street, which I requested, and I was aware of the traffic just outside. But, it was not objectionable. I loved being able to look out the window at the lovely historic buildings across the street from the hotel. It was an overall wonderful experience and I will definitely plan to return when I'm in the area. The Southern Charm was amazing...........

"Beautiful Hotel BUT...."

2
31/10/2015

If two senior citizens book a room at the senior rate, why in the world would you give them the room that is absolutely the farthest one away from the lobby and front desk? Check it out. Room 227 is the last room down two very long hallways. We did not appreciate having to lug our suitcases a block away from the lobby! Otherwise, the hotel is a beautiful place. Except for the walk everywhere we had to go (lobby, restaurant, ice machine), the hotel is wonderful. B ut they need to be more attentive to senior citizens.

"Beautiful, historic, but noisy."

4
29/10/2015

The Windsor is located downtown within walking distance of several restaurants and shops. There is a wonderful bakery adjacent to the lobby, though its hours are limited. The rooms are well furnished, modern, and clean, yet they retain their historic charm and character. The lobby is also spacious and beautiful. The only downside is the noise. If you have a room with a window you will hear traffic from the street all night long. Additionally, the hotel hosts many events connected to the local state university as well as other business interests. This brings a lot of noise to the hotel. You can hear every person as they walk down the hallway at night. It is a beautiful facility and a historic place to stay, just bring your earplugs.

"Great history and beautiful hotel."

28/10/2015

I was recommended The Windsor by a family member a few weeks ago. I was on my way home and decided to call and see if there were any rooms available that particular night. There were rooms available and at what I thought a great price. The person on the phone was very polite and when we arrived, about an hour later, we met Erica. She was the one that took my reservation and being this hotel had history, she began answering all of my questions about the hotel. She seemed genuinely excited to explain the history. My fiancé and I spent at least an hour just looking at the architecture of the hotel and some of the furnishings and photos throughout the hotel. it is one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed at and the room was comfortable and clean. "Beautiful historic hotel"

The hotel was beautiful and the room was huge. The staff was helpful and friendly. We also ate in Floyd's Pub - and it was delicious! There's also a wonderful little bakery just off the lobby. My only issue was that we had a double bed and a queen would have been more comfortable.

"Interesting trip to the past"

This historic hotel has a lot of charm especially in the lobby. The rooms have all the modern amenities but still have an back to the past feel to them. We stay here every year during my wife's family reunion due to location. The Andersonville Fair and Civil War re-enactment are on the same weekend as the reunion so the hotel is conveniently located to this event and Plains, GA. While I agree with some reviewers that there are some noisy areas of the hotel, one should remember that it was built in 1892 so sound deadening probably wasn't a key feature back then. We always enjoy breakfast at the hotel and the staff have always been friendly and courteous.

"Noisy, Poor wait list policy"

The hotel is a great old hotel that has been restored. Some of the restorations have worn but the lobby is still interesting to view. The rooms are clean and the beds are reasonably comfortable. Our room was small and there was a lot of noise from cars on the street. We were on the wait list for this hotel and when we a room became available, the staff did not tell us the rate had increased significantly due to the fact that we were closer to our check-in date. We were very unhappy when we arrived at 7:30 pm and we were told of the upcharge. I would visit the lobby to view the inside of the hotel but staying in a room is really not that special, especially given the street noise and the level of comfort of the beds.

great staff, pleasant stay. Clean room, excellent internet reception, loved the history of this hotel. Only one complaint was the outside smoking on the outside porch; had to move twice, then gave up. The employees were the smokers, which I thought was rude. I know they should get breaks, but most places I've stayed, allowed smoking away from the guest areas.

"Beautifu, historic, comfortable"

Beautiful hotel in the heart of historic Sumter County, Georgia. Close to historic locations as Plains, Georgia and Andersonville, Georgia. You get a great sense of the significance of the region just by staying here. Price is right, too, along with wonderfully presented food and friendly, professional staff.

Absolutely the best place to stay in Americus! Antique atmosphere of the Windsor is amazing! Everything is beautiful and top notch. The rooms are very nice with great views! The bar was amazing and also laid back atmosphere with a deck over looking the city. It's in a great location as well. This place is beautiful and amazing! Great service to back it up! Can't be that! You must stay, highly recommended.

What a classy hotel. Built 1892. Restored in 2010. A trendy Victorian masterpiece. Three story lobby is stunning on entry. Super friendly staff, heart pine wood panelling, flooring, marble, excellent-modern facilities, good security, quiet rooms. Restaurant (separate review) is the best in the region, and so is this hotel! There is a Pub as well. Enjoy!

On the long drive down I -75 from Columbus Ohio to Florida we decided to divert to the jimmy carter national historic site, We stayed on Americus at this wonderfully restored hotel! It is a beautiful place in a downtown that doesn't have much going for it, cool porch on 2nd floor to sit and have a drink . Floors are beautiful golden oak and original marble tiles in lobby. Weird smell on 2nd floor but heard that's not the usual, Are at the restaurant, Rosemary & Thyme and our waitress Destiny was awesome! Great food in a beautiful setting!

"Surprisingly Disappointing"

A dozen or so years ago, I began visiting the City of Americus on business and quickly fell in love with the town, the little shops, the surprisingly outstanding restaurants, the breathtaking little theatre, the Rylander. But the treasure I discovered first was the Windsor Hotel, a wonderful 1890's treasure of a hotel. It was recommended to me and it was a delight to stay there. I have used it as my hotel of choice in my many visits to the area since then unless it was completely booked or my client paid for my hotel and booked me in another one. I have reviewed it on occasion here in the past, always recommending it. My previous reviews are there for the reading. So it is unfortunate but I think necessary to report a poor experience here – one that surprised me and disappointed me very much. For those not familiar with my reviews, I look for several things when I travel: Do I have a sense that I and my possessions are safe? Is the hotel reasonably clean? Is the water pressure good? Does the internet connection work well? Can I control the heat/air conditioning so as to make the room comfortable? Does the overall experience allow me to get a good night's sleep – can I rest? With respect to this trip, for all the above, the answer was “yes,” except for the last two: the deficiency was in the air conditioning, and the comfort of the bed itself. Most of my business trips are made alone on this occasion, my partner was able to travel with me so we booked a “Queen” room – and that's what we paid for. When we arrived at our room, we had to change quickly and leave for dinner with colleagues. So it was only when we settled in later in the evening that we noticed the size of the bed. I know that the hotel industry has different sizes for queen and king beds – smaller than sizes marketed for homes. I stay regularly in queen bed hotel rooms because of my height and I'm familiar with that size. This was not that. This was a double bed. My partner and I travel and stay with a friend from time to time – he has a double bed and we are always aware that we won't sleep as well crammed into that size bed. This was that size bed. As a result we had trouble sleeping. I'm not sure whether we were booked into a room that is called a queen-size bed room and isn't, or whether they were out of queen rooms and put us into a double room. Either way, we were uncomfortable and disappointed. And we didn't sleep well. Added to that was a noisy air conditioner that is controlled by a thermostat and the fan was loud. Trying to keep the room comfortable in a Georgia summer meant that the air conditioner cut on and off all night and kept waking us up. Between the bed and the air conditioner, we were never really able to sleep well, which made both of us tired for all of our other events. It was the first unacceptable experience I've had here. It seems that in order to get a bed that will fit us, we're going to have to pay a premium price. Or stay somewhere else. As much as I haved loved this special place, I hate to even think that.

Dear Nighthawk416, Thank you for your review of your experience at the hotel and bringing business to our city, it means a great deal to us. I apologize that it wasn't a 5/5 as we strive to ensure guests have a great experience while at the Windsor Hotel. We have 13 types of rooms. For rooms with two beds, we have rooms that have two Double Beds (inch a half smaller than a queen), and two Queen Size Beds. The rates for single and double only vary around 2.00-4.00 per night. We also have regular rooms with One King Size Bed. I am not sure what date you came in August because of anonymity of the reviews, but it is possible we could have been sold out of those room types. We have premium bedding on each of our beds. Each room is a different shape and size, so based on that it varies what type of bed can allow us to have in the room. We have central units in the rooms as well as ceiling fans, I apologize that the A/C was cutting in and out, please give us another chance to give you a better experience. Please call feel free to call me at 229-924-1555 dial 2 for your next reservation and further discuss your experience. Divya Patel Manager

Beautifully restored hotel, pleasant staff. Quaint little part of GA with true southern hospitality. The entire place is neat, comfortable, and safe. We walked around downtown on a Sunday evening in the dark and felt extremely safe and enjoyed the old town and old buildings.

This hotel is a gem & Best Western keeps it nicely polished. The history & character of this hotel is remarkable. I would recommend it for any stay for any length of time. The closet was huge & the room was beautifully furnished. the bed was the most comfortable I have slept in. The pillows were a little hard, but other than that everything was impeccable.

"Best Place to Stay in Americus"

Without a doubt the Windsor is the place to stay in Americus. Our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. We were there (this time) to hear Jimmy Carter teach Sunday School in nearby Plains, GA. The service at this property is way above average. My wife and I have stayed here several times and will most certainly stay here again in the future.
