    « Friendly and comfortable »

Stayed for two nights over the early May bank holiday and it was very pleasant. Breakfast was nicely presented and hot with a good choice. Had our Sunday evening meal there and although it was busy due to staff shortage they were very apologetic and it was well worth the wait. Our room had air conditioning, a bonus as the weather was really hot. Massive bathroom with bath and shower. Will certainly stay there again.

The staff were welcoming and obliging. The evening meal was exceptional as was the breakfast. Lovely clean airy rooms. There is 2 small car parks for the hotel but there is a public car park at the rear if you can't get a space at the hotel. I would recommend this hotel just for the staff and restaurant though the menu is small the food is quality and good value. Room service is the same price as the restaurant. We will be back very soon.

« Minimum menu but good quality »

Had family meal on 26th April . Did not make reservation, but were found a table in 15 mins. Whilst there is a good array of burgers and pizzas etc not a large amount of other meals, but more than sufficient to meet most tastes, and overall good value for money with dearest main course at £13.95 , deserts £4.50 or less . The reasonable prices did not deter from service and quality of food. Beware after 9.00pm restricted menu . Good experience , pleasant ambience and good service

    « Midweek Business Stay »

Stopped here for one night after a long day on the road. Tricky to find but probably down to my satnav! Its located on the high street with quite a bit of on site parking at the back of the hotel and a large pay and display car park opposite. Room was adequate without being spectacular bit fine for a one night stopover. It was quite big for a single but the bathroom let it down slightly, fan was very noisy and the shower not great. Bar area was busy and showing the football with mix of locals and residents, quite a nice atmosphere. Didn't eat here but the drinks were reasonably priced. Wifi was a bit slow. Breakfast was fine and a nice change to have it made to order rather than the seemingly never ending buffet option. Would stay again if in the area as its reasonably priced and central.

« Great Value Groupon deal »

Both my wife and I stayed at The Lion Hotel for our 45th wedding anniversary on a 3 day Groupon offer and we must say our first night was exceptional we found the reception team of Bradley ( Nice bunch ) & Karen to be extremely professional and also most courteous and helpful. We had a meal in Bar 114 on the Friday and the food was EXCEPTIONAL, I had chicken sizzler & Marie had bacon & black pudding pizza & both were very nice & hot. We had booked a table for the Saturday night but after a day out decided to try room service, I had a burger doubled up & Marie a steak sizzler, my burger was very nice however Marie's sizzler was cold and several of the extras we had ordered were mixed up, Marie sent the meal back and ordered a double burger very nice, problem was we got charged for the sent back meal and extras we had not ordered, this was rectified at check out as I had refused to sign the till receipt but it was still sent through for payment. We decided after sleeping on it that we would leave a day early. Have left comments on the Hotel feed back form and emailed Emma direct who apologised and offered us a free upgrade to executive suite. We will see if we use this offer. This in no way reflects on any member of staff but on presentation of in room menu.

    « Another great stay »

The review I thought I'd uploaded last time obviously hadn't uploaded hence two reviews so close! We stayed here this weekend and had yet again a lovely stay. The staff were friendly and polite and it was great that we got a free upgrade when we checked in. This time we stayed in the Wellbeck Suite (would love to check out other suites lol!) Breakfast was fine but we do prefer the table service rather than the buffet. No noise or disturbance from the wedding going on downstairs. As usual- we will be back x

Overall experience was not good it left a lot to be desired, food offering was average, the comfort of the bed was poor, the shower was low power, the location of the hotel was average and the overall cost was expensive.

As someone who stays at this hotel 2-3 days a week currently, I have to say I find it very good. The rooms generally are spacious and comfortable and the restaurant and bar area is a great place to relax. My only recommendation would be for some spicier dishes on the menu.

    « Fantastic hotel »

Stayed for one night b+b. Lovely hotel, good staff and comfy room. Room was clean and warm. Bed very comfortable and very quiet. Good in room amenities including tea and coffee, big TV and free sky sports. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful with a nice selection of hot and continental breakfast. Keep up the good work guys. Thanks again

    « Easter Break »

The hotel is lovely with great rooms, breakfast facilities and a nice bar. Now the negatives. Boxing match on Sky Sports and the bar was very noisy,as our room was above the bar. My partner went to complain to be insulted by the duty manager. This was our second visit but never again, as for professionalism the duty manager Stephen needs to learn manners and taking the mickey out of people with a disabilities is unacceptable. Talking about the customer laughing at their disability when the customer walks away from the Reception is disgusting. Equality Act 2010 he needs to read and talk to people with respect whatever the situation.

    « Excellent »

Visited the hotel on a Saturday night Big fight night and the atmosphere was lovely. Bar staff were excellent ensuring we received the drinks required. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was of a good standard however was only lukewarm. It's a shame to moan

    « Superb again. »

This is our third visit to the Lion and it hasn't disappointed us, very clean and tidy room with everything you may need, breakfast is lovely buffet style with a great selection, the staff as always are pleasant especially Gemma who was very helpful even though she couldn't move us to the room we had on our previous visit with the water bed, shall definitely go back. Well worth a visit.

    « Weekend away. »

One of our favourite hotels. Have been quite a few times and always enjoyed our stay. Beautiful well presented hotel lovely rooms (pay a little more and book a suite, large spacious and great bathrooms). The staff have all been lovely nothing too much trouble. Breakfast is good but have heard evening meals have become predictable and never vary. Will be returning soon. For the dog lovers amongst you some rooms allow dogs.

« We won't go in the restaurant again. »

Having been to the Lion hotel several times in the past and found the food and restaurant acceptable, I decided to re-book for a party of seven friends for my birthday treat, however this time we were allotted a table in 114 Bridge Street, which I believe is the restaurant normally used for lunches and none reserved walk ins. We had pre-booked the menu and agreed the prices so expected the experience to be problem free, it wasn't. Our table must have been the worst in the restaurant because every time someone entered or left the building through the back door the frosty daft was enough to chill anyone to the bone, we spent the whole meal sitting in our coats. One of my friends brought the state of the chair seats to my attention which were severely stained, not very pleasant at any time but even less so when wearing clothes for a party. The meal arrived in dribs and drabs, we were all eating at different stages and times. This would have been over looked if the food had been reasonable but it completely failed to impress us. My starter of Deep Fried Brie looked alright, it was golden on the outside but was cold in the middle. Members of the party were unhappy that the potatoes were not just ?al dente' but simply un-cooked in the centre and another guest said the gravy was so salty it was unpleasant. Several of the party decided to order sweets three being Lemon Possets with shortbread biscuit, which were fine except for the lack of a plate (saving on the washing up was our conclusion) they arrived in a glass with the biscuit on top, all very pretty but where are you supposed to put the shortbread while you use your spoon to eat the lemon posset, or your spoon whilst eating the shortbread? Hmmm! I decided because I had eaten a starter I would skip the sweet course and have a hot chocolate instead, it arrived with no marshmallows and whipped cream (as described) and looked thin and murky would be the best description I could give it, the taste was like a poor brand of instant packet rubbish, after the first sip I refused to drink it. When I asked about the marshmallows and cream I was told, I didn't ask for them!!!! The sweet course completed we would normally have sat round the table drinking wine or coffee but it was so cold and uncomfortable and the dirty pots were STILL on the table in front of us so we decide to leave. A visit to the loo proved they had not been inspected for a while with paper all over the floor, they obviously needed attention. When the bill arrived we had been over charged by £2.45 for the three portions of Sea Bass making a difference of £7.35 in total. On complaining to the manager I mentioned all our other concerns, where upon the bill was adjusted and returned with a 15% discount. I asked for the hot chocolate to be removed from the bill where upon without ado another 15% was removed as well as the offending hot chocolate. I suppose in the end there was an attempt to rectify the situation but in fairness we would rather have had a night to remember for the right reasons, not the wrong ones.

    « weekend away »

we booked to stay here for a weekend and paid extra for he executive rooms this was £20 per night extra. the room was very large and spacious. the bath room was also very large with both Bath and shower ( very powerful great for unwinding). The staff were very nice and polite and gave us a great welcome when we arrived. we booked for an evening meal and this was confirmed when we arrived however the bar/restaurant staff said we had not booked and found us a side table. the food was not great but we had booked so we ate there. breakfast was very nice you had a choice of what every you wanted continental, full English, fruit or cereal. all in all we would look at going back to stay again and well worth a visit.

« Rooms ok but food service lets it down »

I stay here regularly, some of the rooms are lovely and others are very outdated but it's the food service that lets the place down. Despite regular feedback my room service order is always wrong, at breakfast the staff hide in the kitchen so I am left heading to work hungry as I have no time to order my food. If they could sort out this issue then I would be keen to stay here more often.

    « Ruined »

Stayed here quite a few times, it is a nice hotel for a cheap break. Check in was quick. Room ok, have had better ones here. Had meal Friday and Saturday night... Friday service coming to take order etc slow, much better staff on the Saturday. Breakfast first morning was in a small room, cooked to order, staff again very slow didn't seem to notice people waiting, took 20 minutes for tea to be brought and another 20 for breakfast and half of items missing. Next day self service buffet so better. There was an 18th party on the Saturday and to say these group of people don't know how to behave is an understatement, from 5.15pm til 5 am .. 18 year olds running up and down, drinking, banging on each others doors constantly. We complained to reception and I think the hotel could have done more as these totally ignorant, inconsiderate people ruined our weekend, the hotel should have addressed this. We couldn't wait to leave.

    « Lovely Night's Stay »

Had a lovely night's stay after a party. Had the Rufford Suite and it wad very clean and tidy. The waterbed was a pleasant surprise! Breakfast next day was good too and staff were extremely helpful, friendly and approachable. Would definitely stay again.

    « Ok stay »

Stayed in business trip for 1 night. Check in was good, quick. Rooms a little dated and tired. Service at restaurant slow, not professional. Internet was ok. Breakfast ok, check out swift. I wouldn't stay here again unless I had no alternative

    2
    « Dated and Limited »

I stayed here for 1 night. I was put the room Dukeries. The room is extremely dated and old fashioned. The toilet didn't flush properly. All other facilities were your standard room. The menu is extremely limited and the restaurant staff weren't immediately helpful. There were at the time only 2 other diners. It wasn't obvious how the restaurant worked - whether you helped yourself to a table and waited to be served or found a table and went up and orders. Eventually I was served. My starter was still frozen in the middle. I then had to go to the bar and pay. Breakfast wasn't much better.

    « Peaceful getaway »

Have stayed here many times always clean and comfortable. Can recommend the breakfast always delicious self serve. Worksop itself is a little run down but very quaint with a nice Street market plenty of pubs/eating houses and since our last visit a few more shops have opened up. Went to weatherspoons pub the liquorice gardens great pub worth the visit

« Called In For A Drink But Was Refused »

Called in at 10.43 pm on Friday, 5th January for a drink but the barmaid refused to serve us saying that they were closed . Surely in 2018 it is reasonable to expect the bar to be open until 11.00 pm which has been the norm in this country for many years. .The girl behind the bar claimed to be a manager , if this is the case then she needs training in the hospitality business. I certainly won't be returning anytime soon which is a pity because in the right hands it could be a nice bar

    2
    « Disappointed »

Stayed here before but disappointed this time, room lovely and warm but breakfast a big let down. Full English seemed budget quality, scrambled egg dry, sausage and bacon dry seemed to have been cooked and left for ages. Had to ask for toast, pot of tea for two came with one tea bag which seemed budget quality, not at all best western standard.

« Very disappointing,Poor attitude from senior staff members. »

We visited the hotel for a meal as we had been previously and found it decent, this time the service was terrible, there was one member of staff on who was trying her best to manage the bar whilst taking orders for food, it appeared that she was alone as we did not see anyone for quite a while, after a while a young lady appeared if only for a few minutes, (I later found out this was the duty manager.) We made our choices and ordered the food from the bar, the food took at least 20-25 minutes to arrive, when it did arrive my food was okay, my wifes was over cooked, in fact the the steak resembled a flip flop that had been cut up !! We expected to see a team member around to raise a complaint however never saw anyone for at least another 20 mins, no one even bothered coming across to see if everything was ok which it clearly was not, by the time we saw someone and raised a complaint my meal was finished and my wifes meal cold and she was past it, when we raised the complaint the DM had the nerve to offer 15% off our bill, something which I told her this was not acceptable as I had finished and quite frankly expected seeing someone before it reached this stage, at the point the DM snapped well there's only us 2 on so it's not our fault, Guess what that is not my problem, as there was only a few guests in she should of made time to look after her paying quests. I would also add the lemonade was flat as a pancake, granted this was changed but only after the DM had sniffed the lemonade in front of me to see if I was telling the truth, which was totally unacceptable. I would seriously think again about going to eat their again as the DM is in need of training, I would also add I was not the only one in the hotel that day who thought the food and service was poor.

    « Party Night Review »

We visited last weekend for a work's Christmas party. Pre-ordering meals and payment etc was quick and easy. We had originally booked for a tribute night but had to cancel and rebook a different date. Customer service was brilliant as we were able to transfer the deposit paid to the new date which we really appreciated. The night itself was great. Food was lovely, drinks were cheap and the atmosphere was good. Staff clearly worked hard to make sure everything ran smoothly. We will definitely be returning soon. My only slight criticism would be that we rang to ask what time the evening finished and was told 12:30. At 12 when we tried to order drinks, we were told the bar had closed. That was a little annoying as it could have been mentioned when we rang or last orders should have been called.

« Not good if you're travelling with a baby and a buggy »

My mum and I stayed here recently with my 1 year old daughter whilst visiting family. The hotel itself was located conveniently within walking distance of shops, town centre etc. Our biggest issue with this hotel was the location of our ?family room' Located at the furthest possible point from the hotel reception and main entrance, the hotel lift did not go to our part of the hotel. Meaning anytime we needed to go to or leave our room with my child and her pushchair, we had to go up and down numerous flights of stairs and along endless amounts of doors and corridors. I was disappointed that at no point did staff ever offer to help me up the stairs with the buggy where my daughter was sleeping. We mentioned to staff about how inconvenient the ?family room' was but they weren't particularly helpful and just said that's how the hotel was built. Although I am aware that may be the case, it would be basic customer service in a hotel to at least offer assistance getting to our room considering the staff were aware of how far away and inconvenient the room was. On a plus side the evening meal we had in the restaurant was really nice, with a good choice and tasty food. The beds were comfy and the room was spacious. Overall the hotel was conventionally located and probably ok for couples or those on business but I certainly wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone with young children or babies.

    « Average »

We stayed here for one night whilst visiting a friend nearby. The hotel was average......certainly nothing best about it. There is limited parking around the back of the hotel. There is no lift so if you have heavy luggage be prepared to have to carry it up the stairs. The saving grace was that the wifi was strong.

    « Christmas Lunch »

I have visited this location for a number of years, with a group of friends for our annual Christmas Lunch. When we first visited we had a number of selections of Starters and desserts, over the years this has been reduced. This year as usual we boooked in, when we were given the options we could only choose between Soup or Mushrooms as a Starter. The Soup was lovely, and I was informed the Mushrooms were also nice. We waited for the main, in anticipation... I wish I had not bothered. I had opted for the Traditional Turkey with trimmings although the Turkey was moist, it had very little taste. The pigs in blankets were small (this is giving a slight exageration, as you only had enough for two bites) and the stuffing left a lot to be desired. We were then presented with Veg, this consisted of Cauliflower Cheese, and this was distiquished by the taste of cheese detected on the floret as there was no sauce in the tray, and Carrot and swede combination. Then we were given only roast potatoes. The portions were small to say the least. I am not a big eater but even I was left wanting more. To say I was dissapointed was an understatement. I called at the reception to complain and the reason behind the lack of vegtables was conveyed, there would be a lot of wastage if more was given. I am sorry as a large party we had to pre-order, hence you had been made aware of the amount needed for our party. This was not a traditional Christmas Lunch as we did not get even sprouts, Very Dissappointed

« Best hotel in Worksop »

Stayed her on business last week. Without doubt the best place to stay in Worksop. Great service, free parking, decent bar and grill. The rooms were spacious, clean, bed was extremely comfortable. And the rooms had Sky Sports which was a bonus for me!

    « Restaurant review »

Easy to find in Worksop and parking available, which was handy - although it is a small car park and quite tricky to get out of when full and with cars either side. There is a pay and display just next to it though. Pleasant staff and typical of a 3 star, so you have to go with the star rating in mind. Cheap drinks at the bar - well they seemed cheap compared to other bars/hotels I've been in. Food expensive though, particularly for what it is. I'd go elsewhere for much better value and quality. There are some lovely places outside Worksop, so if you can go elsewhere, it's worth doing. Our food was poor - roast chicken dinner was a small chicken breast, one slice of a carrot, Yorkshire pudding and potatoes with some frozen stuffing balls. The chicken seemed like it had been frozen too - nothing like a roast - don't expect the same quality as you would get on a carvery. Sorry to say I can't really recommend this place for anything other than a quick drink in the bar.

« Comfortable room but a little disappointing »

We booked an executive room directly with the hotel and were given the Priory room. The room was ok but not nearly as nice as the rooms in the pictures on the website, which was a little disappointing when we had paid extra for an executive room. The bed was comfortable and the room was a good size. The decor just felt a bit tired and plain. The breakfast was great, lovely bacon, and the sausages were good too.

    « LOVE. »

We got a great deal and we absolutely loved it here! It had everything you needed and more. We had an hour later check out for free, which was extremely kind of them. The food in the restaurant was fantastic quality and very very reasonably priced! A few little niggles: We stayed in the Rufford suite, and it is very dated. This room does have a water bed; which didnt bother me, but my fianceè struggled with. But we did find this very funny. So on the plus side it gave us a great laugh! And for breakfast, the presentation was tarnished slightly as there was bean juice everywhere. Nothing that a little wipe-up couldnt fix! Absolutely LOVED our stay here. And as long as we can have a room without a water bed, we will be back in a heartbeat! Thank you so much for a fantastic stay ??

    « Cheap & Cheerful »

We booked here because we wanted to be near Sherwood Forest. On arrival, we had to park illegally while my husband went in to find out about parking etc. The street address is NOT the front of the hotel as pictured on the website and in order to get to the main reception area & parking you have to go to the address listed above, then go past this and turn for about a block and then turn again. Nice parking area though. The girl at reception was lovely and booked us into the restaurant/bar for supper. The bed was fairly comfy, but the carpet was wet in places. Breakfast was OK but nothing special. Staff very nice.

« The Lion Hotel, Worksop »

This hotel is centrally placed in Worksop, situated close to the cinema. Access if arriving by car is from behind the building, into a small free car park. I think early arrival guarantees a space, otherwise there is a pay to park car park opposite. Make sure you know how to gain access to the back lane before you go as we missed the turning and had to drive around the block. There is access to the front, leading out onto the street which is pedestrianised which is why car access is from behind. The room was on the ground floor, it was clean and the bed comfortable. We weren't aware of much outside noise at night but did hear some vehicles start in the morning, but not a problem for us. A kettle with a range of tea and coffee and biscuits are in the room, along with a decent hairdryer. The bathroom is equipped with bath, shower, toilet, bidet and sink with good lighting. No magnifying mirror though which is useful at times. There is a flatscreen TV with a good range of channels and of course free wi-fi, which worked well on iPad and iPhone in all areas of the building that we used, including the room. We ate in the restaurant, having walked around Worksop town centre to find it a ghost town on Monday night. Everything was closed. There were a couple of 'fast food' places open. There was a decent range on the menu and the food was tasty and not overpriced, with good portion sizes. The layout of the hotel is a bit of a rabbit warren but there is signage and staff around to ask if confused. The staff we spoke to were polite and efficient so no complaints there. We were pleasantly surprised by the hotel and would not hesitate to recommend it for a stay in Worksop. We drove to the nearby Sherwood Forest for an afternoon out. There are other places of interest around the area, so a reasonable base if doing the sights. For some reason I can't click on ratings for service, rooms and cleanliness. I would award 4-5 stars for all. We were quite happy with everything.

« They went the extra mile! ?? »

We decided to try the Lion hotel for our anniversary. We stayed in one of their honeymoon suites, room number 308. It's a lovely big room with a beautiful 4 poster bed and luxurious bathroom. We were pleasantly surprised when we entered the room to find a bottle of prosecco and an anniversary card waiting for us. Thank you BW Lion hotel for going the extra mile. Xxx

    « Pretty good... »

Stayed here due to work. Car park on site ( first come first parked). Reception small but fully equipped. (Lucy was exceptional!!). Walked up two flights of stairs ( my own choice as there was a lift) and round my room on the front of t he building facing the High St. Room we really nice- no fridge but spacious- nice comfy clean bed and tea and coffee if needed. Bathroom was modern spacious and shower was ok. Later in evening I turned the tap sink on and it splashed on the floor... I used the shower mat to mop.up and as it was white noticed the might seemed brown and dirty - so maybe not cleaning bathroom floor as they should. Slept well and warm. Tho woke gup Keeley as bin day and I could hear bin collection Lovely thank you Kind regards Karen 8 On the while lovely B

    « Hit & Miss »

The Lion Hotel is situated in the centre of Worksop and is very easy to find, there are two hotel car parks at the rear, which fill up quickly, however there is a paid car park directly behind it. I have stayed here 3 or 4 times over the past few months and have ended up in the paid car park during the day as the hotel car parks were full. It would have been nice if the hotel had a policy of refunding car park charges. The hotel itself is clearly a very old hotel, having stayed in different rooms each time, I can say they vary greatly. Everything from the very tired and not refurbished to the modernised 'executive' type room. As it is an old hotel, the corridors are a little long & windy, but that's the nature of the hotel. There is a lift for those that require it. As the hotel is in the centre of Worksop it is also used by people walking in off the street to use the bar & restaurant. On two of the nights this made the bar / restaurant very noisy, on one of these nights I unfortunately had a room directly over the bar, so got little sleep. The restaurant serves acceptable pub grub, the menu is not extensive, but it does the job required. I am sure, if you want fancier food than that it would only be a short walk away. The staff have always been very friendly to me, though sometimes a little too engaged in chat with either their colleagues or people they know from the town to take notice of customers. Would I recommend this hotel - depends - if you want a quiet relaxing break, I would stay somewhere else. If it is for one or two nights and you want to be in the thick of it, it'll do fine.

    « Groupon visit »

We have stayed here quite a few times as we really enjoy it we always upgrade to a luxury room and as usual the room was excellent with a complimentary bottle of prosecco. We dined in the restaurant but unfortunately they didn't have what I wanted (fish and chips) so I went for the pulled pork burger. I was very disappointed it was very dry and didn't come with anything else on the bun would have liked some kind of sauce etc. My husband and sausage and mash which he said was ok. Puddings were ok but I feel the food as gone down hill a bit since our last visit however the breakfast next morning was perfectly ok.

« EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY »

    « Good hotel »

I had a suite at the back of the hotel - a little dated but perfectly clean and comfortable (and very spacious). The reception staff were very welcoming on arrival, though the waiting staff in the restaurant and breakfast room seemed a quite reserved and didn't really engage. The hotel parking was good, and there's ample at the back of the hotel. My stay was quiet and relaxing.

    « Friendly Hotel »

Visited with my husband with a Groupon voucher. Opted to upgrade to an Executive Room 208 - thought it was a bit pricey at £30 a night and didn't have the little extras I am used to when having upgraded - had to ask for the bathrobes. Having said that it was a nice large room, lovely bathroom and large comfortable bed. The staff were all lovely, very helpful and courteous. We ate in the hotel both evenings, the food was nice and not overpriced, breakfast was nice and very well organised. Really surprised at bar prices, drinks were much cheaper than other hotels I have been in. We had a really nice stay and enjoyed our 2 night stay. I liked Worksop and will return and stay here again.

    « Poor value »

One night visit. Stayed in Room 402. Due to design of building there are many stairs some of which have small stair treads and can be awkward. Not good if disabled. Bathroom had broken shower head. Bed mattress was very uncomfortable and springs were gone. Not usual Best Western Standard and poor value for money.

Dear Stewart, I'm really sorry that you were unhappy with your stay, and I would love the opportunity to speak to you about it, if you would like to talk, please contact me on 01909 477925. Unfortunately the hotel dates back to the 16th century, so not all the rooms are accessible. However, we have seven rooms on the ground floor, and sixteen rooms accessible by lift. If you book with us again, please make sure you let us know of your requirements, so we can allocate you an appropriate room. Best wishes, Gemma

« Very good quality town centre hotel »

Having stayed here a few times now, this hotel doesn't disappoint. The room was very spacious, modern and very clean. The staff are friendly and the food was very good. I had the steak sizzler which came with dips, 3 wraps and twice cooked chips. The water cress was a little gone over so didn't put it into the wrap, but it wasn't worth complaining as the rest was very enjoyable. I would recommend this hotel to all you people who need to stay in Worksop. Parking is plentiful on site if you arrive early enough, otherwise there is a public car park to the rear which is free between evening and morning. Pay this one a visit. This hotel is worth paying a visit to, even off you just want to eat here.

    « Lovely staff »

I stay here regularly and today had to leave the office at 1pm as I was feeling really ill. I asked reception if there was any chance that my room was ready, they could not have been more helpful and even phoned-up to the room to make sure that I was ok. Only slight niggle is with room service - they always seem to forget one part of my order which means that my food is cold by the time it has all arrived.

« Lovely big comfortable room »

Lovely well appointed room. Storage galore (unlike some hotels). Massive comfortable bed. Huge bathroom with separate bath and shower which had been recently refurbished. We were at the front of the hotel but the double glazing kept out the traffic noise. We ate in the restaurant and the food was very good. Drinks were reasonably priced in the 114 bar. The bar/restaurant was extremely popular and the waitresses and bar staff were rushing around like headless chickens but were awesome, a credit to Best Western. We'd definitely stay again.

We have regular weekend breaks at this lovely hotel. It has old world features throughout with beamed ceilings. All the staff are so friendly and helpful, the breakfast served is the best we have ever had we are seriously seasoned travellers and love our weekend breaks at the Best Western Worksop. All the staff are very friendly and helpful, we had a meal purchased from the bar delivered to our room within minutes which was lovely and excellent value for money. We will definitely be booking a return visit within the near future. Free car parking is also a bonus at this hotel, shops bars and restaurants are all within walking distance. Give this hotel a go you will not be disappointed.

We stayed for a weekend away and can't fault the hotel and service, the staff was really friendly and helpful. The service was excellent and we enjoyed our meal here which was wonderful and well presented. We stay at this hotel at least 2 or 3 times a year and never fails to impress.

« Smallest bed ever - room akin to a cell »

Checked into this hotel for 1 night - here on business. Room was very basic - avoid room 216. Bed was tiny and did not even fit the headboard. No time to change hotels otherwise I would have. Not much else to say about this room actually - other than I will not be staying here again during my frequent visits to Worksop over the next few months

    « Much Needed Break »

Comfortable stay with breakfast and lunch especially good. Friendly atmosphere and able to unwind, at last. Room and decor throughout a bit tired but would be quite happy to stay again. We had a lot of luggage and a member of staff helped us without being asked and that does not always happen these days in hotels.

« Good Quality and Value »

Nice hotel & good food, but when you finally find the car park free spaces are limited. Well placed in the centre of town at the end of the main shopping street. The room was very nice but the main staircase is steep and difficult if you have any disability.

    « Lovely upgrade!! »

We decided on a last minute stay as we'd been invited to a friends 40th birthday party at the hotel and thought it would be nice to both be able to celebrate! We arrived to a nice clean reception area and a welcome receptionist and once we were handed the key which said 'complementary upgrade' and we found ourselves in a lovely large suite. The room was spacious clean and tidy nothing to fancy but lovely all the same. We had a lovely evening with friends and slept well in the bed afterwards.

« On the whole v.good, but with a qualification »

The room was very spacious and comfortable. (Even possibly too big - the TV looked a long way from the the foot of the bed but was actually ok). The bathroom was well furnished with good quality items, except, the shower head dripped all night but has been fixed apparently. Only took breakfast which was adequate.

« Satisfactory stay at a reasonable price »

A group of friends and myself stayed here during the weekend of a wedding we had nearby. The hotel had a mix up with the booking of one of my friends rooms via booking.com. However the hotel sorted this issue and our stay was eventually everything we wanted. Drinks prices were very reasonable and the bar served good food from the menu. Breakfast wasn't so great, a self serve buffet. My double room was a surprisingly big room as was the bathroom. Parking was free in the public car park as it was bank holiday weekend. The hotel does have a small courtyard to park in.

his was our second visit. Room was very nice with two easy chairs to sit on, Bed was very comfortable and pillows were fine. « Traditional Hotel albeit a little dated. »

We stayed at The Lion for two nights. We were very warmly greeted and quickly checked in. Our room was a reasonable size came with a huge bed, two chairs a flat screen on the wall that gave us all the channels we could want including Sky Sports and BT Sports. The shower room was also a nice size with modern fittings and a bidet ! We had breakfast both mornings, self service from a buffet that got a touch hectic as guests queued in line, oddly there was no choice of egg - it came only scrambled. Disappointing if you like yours fried and we do. All in a nice two days, lots to see and do in the region, shall we return ? We certainly shall.

As we understand that everybody has different preferences and we hope to cater to them all. Best wishes, Gemma.

    « Stale Teacakes »

I went with my sister to have mid morning snack. We ordered two toasted tea cakes, a Latte and tea for one. The drinks came first then a while later the tea cakes arrived - cold and hard. They were obviously stale. The butter did not soften on them so had difficulty spreading it. We took the tea cakes back to the counter and said they were horrible and can we have toast each instead. She apologised briefly and said yes. Eventually that came but by now our drinks were cold so nothing to wash the toast down with. The waitress came to clear our table but said nothing. Not Impressed.

Stayed for 3 nights as we couldn't cancel after the music festival was cancelled, exec room was very spacious, very clean and very comfy, was like stepping back in time though, room was similar to an old people home with a similar smell, breakfast was spot on and staff were fine.

    « Central Hotel »

Hotel booked for business trip and although clean was a bit of a warren to find your room as spread over various floors in what would appear to be several buildings knocked together. If you want to keep fit climbing stairs this is ideal place to book! They will decide if you can receive room service as I tried and as a colleague had charged his meal to my room as his stay was restricted to room only, I was informed that I couldn't have room service! Not good.

« Gemma G, General Manager at Best Western Lion Hotel, responded to this review »
Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Unfortunately as our hotel is a grade two listed building we cannot make many adjustments to stairs and lifts within the hotel itself. We do understand that to get to the top floors can be a trek and we do appreciate your comments. I will however be looking into your comments surrounding room service availability as we do offer room service to every room within the hotel. Sometimes we have to temporarily halt room service orders as if it is in high demand on an evening we can run out of the trays, and until we get them back we cannot take food to rooms. We apologise for the inconvenience caused during your stay, and we hope that if you stay with us in the future you will have a much more enjoyable stay. Best wishes, Gemma.

We stayed for 1night only in room 308 an executive suite, the room is exceptional, lovely and clean and very well appointed with a bathroom to be seen. The bar serves a good selection of lagers and beers and we chose to eat there in the bar and the food is good and reasonably priced. As you can probably tell in the title this hotel is in the prime place to explore Worksop town centre some nice pubs to sit in a while away the hours before returning to base for food and rest.

    « First time stay. »

Arrived after a very wet afternoon to a warm welcome from reception. We were given our key to our room that was large and comfortable and quiet as we were at the back of the hotel overlooking the car park. We had dinner in the in the hotel that was very good. After a good nights sleep we went down to breakfast with which we were very disappointed. The choice was limited due to breakfast nearing its end for the day. The full english was not freshly cooked and the bacon was dry and hard and the hash browns very very crispy. All seem to have been cooked some while before except for the eggs. The smoked haddock was very dry even though it was ment to have poached in milk but some time ago i suspect. The breakfast staff were very unfriendly and looked as they did not want to be there, and just wanted us to go as we were last two in the room. In all the breakfast was very dis appointing. Staff training required.

    « Retrofitted hotel »

Best Western does a great job of taking over historic properties and turning them into modern hotels. This is a case in point. It's an old inn, with some charm, but no compromises are made with respect to cleanliness and comfort. Our room was modern, spacious, and well-appointed. The bed was comfortable. The staff was cheerful and helpful. There is an attached restaurant, which is more than OK: The included breakfast was perfectly fine. It is located on a pedestrianized shopping street, which could be convenient. We walked a half-mile to Worksop Priory, a very fine church worth a look-in, if you happen to find it open.

Hotel needs updating. Breakfast room carpet needed cleaning and floor was uneven in parts. Our executive room was nothing special for the price. Breakfast buffet very unappetising. By chance I overheard another guest ask for freshly cooked eggs so I asked for two poached eggs and was served one. « Brilliant »

Had a great stay night before and night of my wedding. The accommodation was lovely, staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. While there we had breakfast-excellent selection available and was very good quality. I would high recommend to anyone who asked-couldn't find fault and for someone who is picky that's hard-only 2 things I could fault were I had to call down for breakfast as for some reason room service didn't turn up on the first day but I was stressing over wedding stuff so it wasn't a big deal and was quickly rectified and I'd asked for prosecco on the 2nd evening but it turned up the 1st night.

Excellent hotel for the price, modern and well position for the town, friendly staff. Bar prices surprisingly reasonable, didn't try the food so can't comment, but I heard no complaints. Can't fault it. Would use again.

    « market town stopover »

friendly staff, hotel was clean and room modern and comfortable. From the outside the Hotel had the appearance of an old coaching stop in the centre of town, also had good parking facilities. The breakfast was buffet type but had a good selection of fresh, hot food which set us up for the day ahead.

    « 2nd visit disappointment »

our first visit (was a Groupon deal) Prosecco in room on arrival etc. and it was all fine.. We upgraded to an executive double (£20) as before and went to check in 20 mins early, to be told it isnt ready yet...of we went for a drink and went back 10 mins after check in (2pm) to be told , still not ready ..2.45 got in. the room was nice except it was above the main entrance and their was a function on in the hotel both nights, so people in various stages of drunkeness were outside the door most of the time smoking. There is a bottle of Prosecco in the room as we arrive (its included in the Groupon deal) this CANNOT be drunk with your meal in the restaurant, so why you would be expected to sit and drink a warm bottle of Prosecco (they will chill it for you) in your room baffles me. we had booked a table in the restaurant for 8pm. we waited quite a while at the bar to be told where we were sitting.(busy because of the function) the girl behind the bar said we had to order our first drinks at the bar?? and would we like to sit next to the large party of people that she had already served. The restaurant was reletively quiet, so 1- why hadn't we already been allocated a table?...we had booked one for 8pm? and 2- why would we want to spend an evening meal (for 2) next to a large group of loud people having a good time. when all we wanted was a quiet dinner. a couple arrived 10 minutes after us and their order was taken ... the staff cleared away plates from a table behind us, still our order wasnt taken. 25 minutes after we sat down, a girl wandered over and asked "were we ready to order?" the food was nice but the service was pathetic. The room had a flickering bulb that reported the following morning. also reported was the fact that the water from the shower was luke warm..reception said "i will ask housekeeping to look at it as Maintenance doesn't work weekends." And to their credit, if it was housekeeping, they did a great job and it was sorted dinner on the 2nd night wasnt much better to be honest..the staff tended to congregate at the bar and chat before wandering off to check tables. i returned our drinks glasses and asked the young lad (who had been tip tapping at a computer screen with table layouts on for at least 10 mins) if he could bring us a dessert menu and fresh drinks, when he has a minute. the food again was tasty, i had belly pork and unfortunately threw most of it back up later . maybe a stomach bug. i wont be going again

    « Excellent Hotel »

Fantastic Room and good food at reasonable prices, staff all very friendly albeit some of the waiting staff are very young and learning their trade, perhaps the only thing we picked up on is that the metal base under the tables in the restaurant could do with a clean. Nothing really to worry about but thought I would mention it, small detail but thought you should know. Apart from that I would recommend to anyone and we will be returning.

This Saturday we met friends who were staying here, for a meal They were impressed with their room We ate in the bar The food was very good and reasonably priced and the Theakstons IPA very palatable Service was attentive without being pushy and the staff were all very pleasant We will certainly be visiting again

« Lovely hotel, although not as dog friendly a you may think »

We stayed for one night as a family of 4 and our dog. We were given the Cumber suite, which is a little walk from reception, but in itself a great room for the price. It has two bedrooms a small kitchen and lounge and the obvious bathroom. Whilst the suite itself could do with some updating/upgrading for the cost it was adequate. Although advertised as a dog friendly hotel, you can only sit in the small lounge with your dog, not the bar area. This is of no use if youre planning to eat, because the lounge only has small low tables that are unsuitable for anyone eating food. The food we had was actually very nice, and would certainly reccomend. Good breakfast, although some items seemed to be ran out and people were waiting for them. I would stay again, as for the money it was a good deal.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We're glad you enjoyed your stay with us, and we're sorry that you did not find the hotel to be suitably dog friendly. Unfortunately, we only allow dogs in certain areas of the hotel due to guests having allergies and being around food. This is why the lounge is the only place, aside from the outside areas that we allow dogs, as it is not classed within our hotel as a designated dining area. We hope to see you again within our hotel. Best wishes, Gemma.

The Lion is a lovely hotel, unfortunately it's position in the town which is in a sad state does it no favours. However, as a base for exploring the Dukeries it is great.. The Welbeck estate is close by and the Harley gallery is a must. Also Cresswell Crags is a unique place to visit.

    « A bright light in a run-down area. »

We chose this hotel as we were visiting friends in the area and for its Best Western connection - Worksop is not a town of natural beauty and is quite run-down. The hotel itself is well kept and decorated, and our "superior" room did not disappoint. The room was large, as was the bathroom which had a separate shower cubicle as well as the bath - and a bidet ! The surprise was the bed - a water bed ! Excellent. The hotel was busy on the day of our visit hosting a wedding, and we were lucky to find a space in the car park to the rear. We chose to eat in the bar/restaurant in the evening, as there were no real alternatives nearby, and that is where we met the least desirable member of staff. The "small & heavy" barmaid on duty was WORLD-CLASS OUTSTANDINGLY RUDE and bad-mannered, and should not be employed in this otherwise very satisfactory hotel. The food was great, and the "tall" waitresses were friendly, unlike the barmaid. I use the descriptions to assist identification. Breakfast buffet was excellent, although the arrangement of the seating in the breakfast area was flawed, and failed to accommodate the families from the previous evening's wedding party. As a result, we were hemmed in at a small table surrounded by itinerant children. Unavoidable I suppose. The breakfast food was first class.

We take all of our guests feedback on board, and with that being said please accept my apologies for the service which you received in our bar and grill, and also at breakfast. « Pleasant trip »

Pleasant stay, there was a problem with parking no spaces available having to use an unsecured car park isn't good. Not only that because the car park was full people were parking in none parking spaces which was right under our bedroom window on the ground floor. I've stayed here a few times over the years and we always have a good stay my only grumble would be the parking and the standard rooms are very dated unless you pay for suite which are bigger and more modern.

« Gemma G, General Manager at Best Western Lion Hotel, responded to this review »
Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Unfortunately, as we are a town centre hotel our car parking is limited however we do have two of them, and the large public car park to the rear of the hotel. We are also in the process of trying to upgrade the remainder of the rooms that have not been refurbished, so all of the standard rooms are more modern and welcoming. We hope to see you again soon! Best wishes, Gemma.

« Excellent value with Groupon deal »

For the money - couldn't fault the accommodation. Spacious rooms with huge bathrooms with plenty of towels and toiletries. Buffet breakfast more than adequate with fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurts etc. Plentiful hot choices if required. Only one slight observation - staff should keep an eye on tea/coffee stations and replenish regularly. Reception staff pleasant and helpful but surprised a few of staff had never heard of Clumber Park, a vast National Trust property just a 5 minute drive away ( the reason for our visit). Clean, comfortable and surprisingly quiet. Well situated in central location. Would recommend.

« great value and good quality for the price »

We booked this for a reunion for around 12 people. The reviews were good but we werent sure if we had made the right decision as there was little detail on food and beverage available. The good news is that the hotel was welcoming, had smart and well appointed rooms (very good and modern bathrooms) and overall was an excellent mid-price choice. The bar was great but the food offering a little limited, but what was on offer looked good and was popular. If you want to eat out, we did, there are some very good restaurants within 10 mins walk.

Stayed overnight at the hotel and couldn't really fault it. Clean and tidy, friendly staff. Huge bed, Huge bathroom too, impressive. « Nice visit »

Stayed on a groupon deal which was v good price so based on that I would stay again. Second visit to hotel, room nice and large and very large bathroom. Hotel staff on reception and cleaning were pleasant, had a meal in restaurant two nights which was very nice food well presented and large portions. Staff in restaurant pleasant but quite inexperienced I think as a bit more interaction and chat/humour with customers was missing but overall efficient enough. Breakfast very good buffet style lots of choice. There was a private party on the Saturday night which is fair enough but music was very v v loud and extremely annoying when trying to get to sleep, no one on reception answering so think it was quite inconsiderate on guests... but rest of stay fine. I would recommend this hotel though and will stay again hopefully

« Lovely hotel, ruined by rude Receptionists. »

I stayed at the Lion for a short time. Not a good experience at all. The rooms are cleaned daily, no problems there, cleaner who came to my rooms was always moaning about her work load., she spent too much time on corridors gossiping to her colleagues. The Receptionists , in my opinion were very intimidating, one girl who as only been in this job a few weeks, was very rude and, abusive, very general behaviour not at all good. Another Receptionist, Hayley seems very immature and is extremely ude, she as a very cold nature, extremely intimidating and as a bullying personality. The third Receptionist is lovely. The Lounge is very scruffy, the settee needs a good clean. TV always as sports on, not fair, as people do like to see a film. I cannot recommend the Lion at all, too many staff,

    « Highly recommended »

Great position at the top of the town close to the cinema but no noise from revellers! Private car park a real bonus. Be aware that it needs to be approached from the back as it is in a pedestrian area that the sat nav doesn't like. Breakfast had all the usual items and was sometimes a buffet others waitress service dependant on the number of guests I presume. The room was very clean and the bed comfortable. Staff were always friendly and helpful. There are lots of stately homes and parks in the area which are good to visit without traveling too far. I would definitely stay again if I was in the area.

    « Lovely hotel »

We stayed the friday and Saturday , we really enjoyed our stay, we arrived quite a bit early but this wasn't a problem,we ate in the restaurant on the friday night, the food was nice but I thought it was a little over priced, there seemed to be more staff then customers and that could feel a little overwhelming. The room was spotless and a decent size our only issues was the bed, it was two singles pushed together and there was about an inch difference in the heights leaving quite an uncomfortable ridge. The breakfast was gorgeous plenty to choose from and all fresh. I would highly recommend this hotel. We got a good deal on groupon so look there first.

    « Not a good restaurant »

Had a Sunday evening meal. Not what I have come to expect from a Best Western restaurant. Jaded furniture in the bar. Loud pop music frim tinny speakers. Bar service for drinks. Menu on large clip board left on table during meal. Fish OK but small portion. Sunday roast very disappointing. Won't be returning.

« Hotel was faultless but parking spaces are limited »

In terms of the hotel itself, there is nothing I could criticise, it's well kept, clean and friendly staff, lovely rooms and beds. My only issue was the limited number of hotel car parking spaces, approx 20 depending on how people park. There is however a public car park (it's so close to the hotel, I thought it was part of the hotels parking) and it's free from 4pm to 10am. We arrived at 3pm so I had to buy one hours worth of parking @ £0.60p. Next morning I got lucky and I was able to move my car in to one of the hotel spaces before 10am. The only issue is if you have to use the public car park for the six hours it's chargeable i.e. 10am to 4pm (6 hrs), you would have to visit the car park three times as the tickets sold are for one and two hour slots only.

« Nearly five out of five »

Phillip and I spent a very pleasant night in Worksop with Best Western Lion Hotel. Check in, as I always like to mention was very quick and efficient. Room was well appointed and for the price paid well above what one would expect at that rate. Beds were very comfortable and we both had a restful sleep. Room, as I said, was more than acceptable for the price paid, hence my review of four of five. Thus would have been a five had I not looked on Trip Advisor to see some of the most incredible rooms in the hotel. As there are better rooms and indeed spectacular rooms in this hotel, I have to mark down due to the fact that ALL rooms should be fitted to same standard. I felt slightly second class, despite the fact that price has never been an issue in any booking I have made in the past. Five out of five 'Rutter's' but I am a bit disgruntled about the rooms other guests had that I did not have the opportunity to book.

    4
    « Home visit »

Located in one of the older parts of Worksop it really was a home from home, very informal and cozy, I really enjoyed my stay there and considering its located right downtown in Worksop the private parking was a joy to behold considering the tiny parking spaces you find in most places. The owner was very welcoming and a pleasure to chat with. The breakfast was arguably the best full English breakfast I've eaten in my life, cooked fresh as you wait and delicious (and I'm not a lover of breakfast but just couldn't pass this up). If your appetite is less ambitious in the morning there's a good selection of continental style fare and fresh fruit. I thought the road noise was going to be a little much and disturb my sleep but considering its located on a main road it seemed like the traffic turns off magically around 10:30 and then starts back up again around 6:30 so lots of time for quality sleep.

    « Disappointing »

Went for a meal with the family for Mother's Day and it was very disappointing. On first arriving we ordered drinks and the pump broke and ended up with a free drink which is a bonus but the pre paid for meal was very disappointing. The starter, a baked brie with small salad was nice for a starter. The main, a beef dinner was warm to cold in places and the meat did taste nice and the flavour was there but it was close to cold. I had a cheese board which was awful. It had been left in a fridge over night. The cheese was dry, rubber and hard. The chutney had been on the plate a while and all the liquid had escaped and soaked most of the crackers. The staff were very apologetic and were attentive to the tables needs. I doubt I'll come again. Possibly the worst best western franchise I've been to.

    « Valentines day 2017 »

"Book a table in our newly refurbished 114 Bar & Grill this valentines and treat your loved one." This was the invitation on their website which suggests that the minimum to expect was a Valentines evening, the website goes on to talk about a romantic evening etc. etc. it does not suggest that there is any special menu for the occasion, having attended their previous specialised valentines evening and sampling the excellent food that went with them I booked a table for me and my good lady wife, we were shown to our table and to my horror we were sat in the dining area of the bar and also in what can be described as a goldfish bowl in the front window for all of Worksop to see, now bear in mind that this is valentines night and I have come to treat my loved one, not a candle in sight, not a rose petal to be seen in fact not a single reference to valentines night, I found the atmosphere less romantic than a trip on a double decker bus, on the table behind us were a group of 6 or 8 couples who didn't seem to be celebrating Valentines night , then 3 or 4 other couples at various tables who either were or were not celebrating, we ate to the overtures of premiership football on one or two TV sets in the general bar area and the sound of a busy public house atmosphere, certainly not in my opinion a place to treat your loved one on Valentines night, the food was for me vary average my steak although tasty was somewhat chewy to say the least and had I not been so hungry after a long day at work I would have returned it to the kitchen, my wife went for the sea bass which she assured me was very nice and from what I could see looked more like a Childs' portion even by Nuevo cuisine or taster menu standards, I did mention to the staff when asked if everything was alright , in fact I mentioned it to 3 members of staff who all at different points asked if all was well I found this strange as if something is below par I would have thought that all staff members would be aware at the first point of being informed, I didn't find the evening was expensive as together with starters mains a drink for the wife and a bottle of wine for myself and all for less than £50, then I asked for the bill and in traditional pub food chains I was invited to the bar to pay for my meal which in and establishment such as the Lion I found very bizarre, not the best Valentines experience and sadly it will be my last visit to the Lion, this was Valentines night, it more resembled a meal at the local pub, could have been any night of the year you would not have guessed, I would have paid double the bill had it been an intimate meal for two in an intimate location, I do believe that the other restaurant used to be called 108 where we were on the last occasion we were there, and where the experience on that occasion was second to none, someone needs to have a hard look at this, sorry but I was disappointed

Dear Customer, Thank you for your review, apologies the meal setting was not what you were expecting. Stopped for one night and was pleasantly surprised, the size, cleanliness and comfort was exceptional, the Ensuite Bathroom was bigger than the one we have at home, all the little extras included with the room where fantastic, of which many have been done away with at budget hotels charging more than this one. The bed was very comfortable, and the room layout was great. There is a restaurant on site the food was very good and plenty of choice for breakfast only criticism would be not a lot of choice on evening menu.

We traveled to worksop form Kent for our wifes birthday and our Anniversary I booked 4 rooms and a suite for us we got given a executive so a downgrade and was offered £7 was not happy and explained to duty manager and staff but all they said was there got the info from the BW site (that is incorrect as it was changed from a suite to exec on the thursday by the hotel (would have been better to tell the truth) Also booked s meal in the Restaurant for 7 on the tues before when we got there was told that the restaurant was not open and we would have a meal in the Bar/grill. All said the quality of the food was excellent, rooms that we had where nice (but not the suite was booked ) Reception staff need to be more helpful and maybe tell the truth.

Dear Guest, Firstly i would like to apologise again for your upset stay. The restaurant is no longer open within the hotel, as the 114 Bar and Grill restaurant has been refurbished. I am aware a member of management has dealt with this and i hope you are happy with the resolution. Hope to see you again. Best wishes, Gemma

« Weekend break in a comfortable hotel »

We stayed two nights on a Groupon deal so it was good value with a free bottle of prosecco on arrival. The hotel has been refurbished in some areas so there are new carpets here and there. We stayed in room 203 ( an executive upgrade) , the bathroom fan was very noisy & needs replacing, The reception were friendly & efficient and booked us in quickly, the room is above the bar/restaurant area so suffers from noise at times. The door lock was very sticky and took several attempts to open the door. The carpet in our room was very tired and needs replacing, Some of the staff lacked direction and perhaps need further training and /or supervision. There are lots of steps and various levels so may not be suitable for people of limited mobility.

Stayed here for 2 nights to explore the area and further afield. We had a comfortable stay, helpful staff, good breakfast and free parking. The bar & restaurant area are pleasant, well maintained and comfortable. Very reasonable rates. This is the second time I've stayed at this Hotel.

    « Lovely stay »

Great stay - we arrived Friday after work and check in was swift despite it being busy. Upon sitting on the bed we found it had a leg missing and a broken caster - nipped down stairs and was dealt with (very efficiently and effectively by the manager) she swapped us to a nearby room without quibble. Rhys the man on the desk during the night was very helpful too. Breakfast was good, table service Saturday morning and Buffett service Sunday morning. It was very noisy Saturday night as a wedding was taking place but that's to be expected. We will be back.

On arrival, booking in was fast and friendly. Room was large with a king sized bed and even with the addition of a sofa bed as we requested. Bathroom was very spacious with a corner shower unit, good sized bath, very impressive.Plenty towels, very white and fluffy.

« If I am in Worksop again, I would come here again. »

Very extremely efficient check in and check out. Room was fine. Parking seemed ok for the hotel. I was not interested in a big meal, so in a few minutes walked over to a nearby Wetherspoons where I had one of their dishes with a beer. Very good value. Room was comfortable. Breakfast very nice.

    « A pleasant stay »

Very spacious and well equipped room with an excellent bathroom Some noise issues with being town centre based but nothing significant. Standard of food and level of service both good. A good base for exploring the surrounding area (Creswell Crags in particular well worth a visit). Likely to return.

    « Very good »

Leaving this review as recently i left a bad review for the best western in derby and this hotel is such the complete opposite, its only fair. The hotel is right in the center of worksop so near shops etc, it looks like an old coach inn so has a old worldy feel but with a modern features. Our room was huge, modern and clean with a bathroom that could grace any more up market hotel. Staff were helful and organised and the food was fantastic and really cheap. I would certainly stay here again, well done the lion hotel, you are putting other best westerns to shame

The hotel car park is not that easy to find. The post code directs the driver to the front of the hotel which can only be accessed on foot. The ample car park is at the rear. The hotel is on many levels so there are a large number of steps and stairways. The accommodation is good and the staff extremely competent and very helpful. The foot is adequate.

    « Very friendly staff »

We received a friendly welcome at Reception. Our room was large and very comfortable - a little too warm but adjustable heating, windows that opened, and a thoughtful fan sorted that out. Good bathroom with lovely separate shower. We ate in the restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed the evening meal - the restaurant staff were attentive and friendly. The breakfast was excellent with the usual choice of cereals, toast, and full English. If in the area again, we would stay here.

Have used this hotel many times in the past. Good price for a town centre hotel. Very well appointed rooms in good order. Sky sports in the rooms is a bonus. Staff are friendly and efficient. Bar area clean and tidy. Car parking is free over night until 9am. Bit difficult to find rooms at first.

    « Weekend stay »

We got a deal on living social for b&b,and had decided to have a evening meal on asking was told restaurant was closed only meals in the bar and this was a Friday night.breakfast was also not served in restaurant but in the bar, it was self service which was fine but you had to go into another room to get it.when I asked why it was in the bar I was told they were busy, but on the Sunday morning we notice people waiting for a table &they eventually opened the restaurant I don't understand why the couldn't just put the self service breakfast in the restaurant busy or not busy not everyone wants to eat in a bar!!!bedroom was newly refurbished, but some high dusting wouldn't have gone amiss look at the light fittings.bathroom good with bath &shower cubicle with nice toiletries.

« Gemma G, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Lion Hotel, responded to this review »
Dear Janet, Thank you for your review, I'm afraid when we have a large amount of people for breakfast, we have to sit in both eating areas, it just depends on when you come downstairs to where you'll be sat. The bar and the restaurant both serve the same meals, but when we don't have many people eating, we will just sit in one area. I'm sorry you didn't like this way of doing it, but it's just due to the layout of the hotel. Hope to see you again soon. Best wishes, Gemma

We booked the lion hotel for a christening of our son. We couldnt fault the service we recieved from the staff here. « Good value for money but be aware of any weddings taking place »

A great overnight stay. The furnishings in the suite we had were outdated but the overall room was clean. Some rooms seem to have been refurbished to a more modern style. The only downside to staying in this hotel is that if there is a wedding party taking place it goes on until after midnight and the noise can be heard in many of the rooms!

« Best Western - Only use if you don't want wifi or don't want to sleep. »

I am a business traveler, I like my sleep and I like my WiFi. You can either have a 'ziplock' bed with a huge ridge down the middle making sleep impossible and WiFi, or a normal bed (no ridge) and no Wifi because apparently normal beds are only in family rooms and the Wifi doesn't extend that far.

    « Pleasantly surprised »

Stayed at the Lion Hotel overnight after attending a wedding reception held there. Very welcoming, reception staff very friendly. Well decorated throughout. We had an executive room on the 2nd floor although it was a short flight of stairs to the 1st. We were offered a room on the 1st floor and the one on the 2nd floor. The 1st floor one was smaller than the 2nd floor one but very prettily decorated. My son and his partner had this room as the other one we were offered was much bigger, huge bathroom and very spacious bedroom with the added bonus of a water bed - totally unexpected. We had an excellent night's sleep. Breakfast was included and it was a self service buffet breakfast. Plenty of choice and very tasty. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

« Good for Worksop and V nice staff »

This is a good hotel for Worksop but tends to have a lot of unruly children at weekends whose parents are attending wedding functions. The restaurant has a good menu and the staff are very pleasant. Service can be slow when they are busy. Nevertheless I like staying there.

« Excellent rooms - high standard of fittings »

Since our last visit the rooms appear to have been refurbished. Our room (208) was extremely well fitted, and the bathroom was first class. One of the most well thought out showers I have com across - right down to a full depth shelf behind the shower for shampoos etc which was lit so that everything can be easily found. The shower heads themselves (body shower and rain shower) were fully adjustable. This i alone made the stay a delight. The room itself was well furnished and equipped, with a large comfortable bed. Parking is good and on-site. There is also a large car park immediately behind the hotel (accessible from the rear). The staff in the hotel and bar were helpful and friendly. The restaurant food was adequate but of a lower standard than the hotel itself - hence four stars and not five. Although there was nothing to complain about, it need not exceed expectations in the way the accommodation did.

« Gemma G, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Lion Hotel, responded to this review »
Dear Guest, Thank you for your review, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. We have been gradually refurbishing the hotel for a while now, and 208 is a lovely room! Best wishes, Gemma

    « Worst Western hotel ? »

When I pay for spending the night in a hotel, I mainly pay for the use of the bathroom. If necessary, I could also sleep in my car, eat in my car or in any restaurant, work on my laptop in my car or just outside, on a public bench. But I could never have a shower in my car ! That's why I prefer to spend the night in a hotel when I am travelling : in order to have a fresh shower in the morning and to start the day as a clean and well smelling person. That is why I am so disappointed in this hotel, that gave me a room where the shower was out of order ... and they knew it ! Worst Western hotels : shame on you ! When I mentioned the problem at the reception when checking out, I was told I should have complained about it earlier. When ? At the moment when I was about to take a shower ? Get dressed at 7 a.m. and go to the reception to ask for ... for what ? For a technician ... for another room ... a bucket of water ? Ridiculous. The hotel has to make sure all showers are functioning and if not, they at least have to inform the guest AND give a reasonable discount or just give the guest another room. By the way, my room was relatively clean, but could hardly be aerated. BAD HOTEL !

« Gemma G, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Lion Hotel, responded to this review »
Dear Guest, I'm very sorry that you were disappointed with your stay. I'm afraid we weren't aware of the shower being broken until you informed us as you were leaving the hotel. We were not fully booked that night and would not have used the room if we were aware there was a problem with the shower. If you had called down when you had become aware there was a problem with the shower, we would have happily given you a key to another room. If you wish to discuss it further, please contact me on 01909 477925. Best wishes, Gemma

    « Good value. »

We were visiting family in Worksop and they recommended that we stay at The Lion. I booked using booking.com who cancelled my booking because the credit card had expired. Fortunately the staff confirmed that my booking was still in the system - thank you. The receptionist Hayley, was warm and welcoming. We arrived early but she kindly checked and our room was ready. The room was large, clean and minimalist - perfect. It had everything we required and the bathroom ( shower) was one of the best we've experienced in the UK. The room was hot so we slept with the windows open - big mistake, the early morning traffic noise was horrendous. I'd recommend a room at the back of the hotel. Our negative - (I'm sorry to have one) was the total lack of customer service we experienced in the breakfast room! We arrived at 0900 ( having been told service ended at 0930). There was no milk, or Orange juice. We wanted cereal and had to ask for spoons with which to eat it. We had to ask for toast. We were never offered cooked breakfast and I had to seek out the waitress from the kitchen to ask for some tea. It totally ruined the overhaul impression which we had formed. All staff to that point, had been exceptionally friendly and helpful - she was neither and let you down.

Dear Rosie, Thank you for your comments, and I will pass along your compliments to Hayley! I'm terribly sorry that you were dissatisfied with breakfast, but it is 6.30 til 9.00 on weekdays. If you want to discuss this further, please contact me directly at the hotel. Best wishes, Gemma

    « One night stay »

As a single traveller, I was pleasantly surprised to have a double room for a reasonable price. Excellent room - clean and with all the facilities you need for a one night stay. My one (very small) complaint would be that the walls seem to be very thin and I heard revellers bouncing off the walls coming back from their wedding celebrations. If I was back in Worksop I would not hesitate to stay there again.

    « Good »

Arrived for an over night stay at the weekend, checked In at 3pm,the room was adequate and the bed was comfy and the shower was ok. I ordered food at the bar and the staff were excellent and the food was excellent ,we did not have breakfast as we are not into buffets,so we walked down the road to a Weatherspoons pub. The only major gripe was that if there is a wedding on it can get very busy at the bar, more staff please!!. Now the bad comment while we were drinking in the bar and also the back bar two scruffy men both obviously drunk or on drugs were served drinks by the bar staff and then sat down drinking and mumbling ,they smelt horrible. Later I asked a member of the bar staff why these men were not refused service he just said that we had to serve them because they had money on them,REALLY!!!. I left a comment when I checked out but have since received no comments back,in future I may think twice before I go back if this is a regular occurrence . Mr D Neil

We booked rooms here by chance and what a pleasant surprise! The food smelled delicious upon entering and the front desk staff was very nice and accommodating. « Very average lunch »

Came for lunch here and found it to be just ok but I won't rush back. We had a pulled pork burger and steak baguette both very reasonable for 6.50 with chips and salad. However, most of the food seemed to be pre prepared and chips just those frozen ones you throw in the fryer. The salad looked like it had seen better days and had a weird white substance on which I assume to be dressing that was put on hours ago and gone all Claggy. The contents of the burger tasted nice but again it all seemed like pre cooked ready meal stuff. The steak in the burger was tender and tasty. For dessert we shared a chocolate brownie with banoffee ice cream. To my complete surprise the brownie was overcooked and very dry. You needed the ice cream to make it moist. I think this is shameful that a chef is willing to serve this, especially for 3.95! The Diet Coke we also had was a bit strange tasting but welcome after that brownie!!

The hotel staff were all friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. The rooms were of a good standard, well furnished, clean and serviced daily. The hotel whilst older was well presented. The hotel if approached from Bridge Street does not look so appealing as the rear entrance. The restaurant serves a good range of food and it is pleasing that a wide range of British food is on offer. Breakfast is buffet style, with a good selection.

Stayed in June for two nights, checked in to discover we'd been given the Rufford suite, very nice. The Lion really is a nice place to stay, the staff are all pleasant, and helpful, the room was ace, nice size, with a wonderful water bed. Breakfast was spot on once again, really can't fault the hotel, or staff we met. Highlly recommended. There's a market right outside the front doors on Friday and Saturday, some nice little shops, and half a dozen good pubs. We visit at least once a year for a chill out weekend, love it.

    « Sunday night delight »

Arrived and easily found the car park at the rear. Realised we had forgotten our voucher through which we had booked, but any concerns were blown away by the receptionist. A delightful welcome and room 206 allocated to us. A flight of stairs took us from the reception area to the room corridor and we were delighted by the room. A large sitting area is closest to the door, then a king sized bed with window beyond. No view and a little disappointingly no fridge. However the bathroom is a delight with both bath and walk-in shower, all beautifully tiled and spotlessly clean. Plenty of room to store luggage and clothes. The breakfast provision was good. The main course is cooked to order and it consequently is a much hotter experience than we get in buffet-type breakfasts. Though I have to admit we both felt the full English and the fish option were slightly over-cooked. I must admit that our experience far out-classed our expectation, and we would hope to stay again if we are in the area. We thoroughly and strongly recommend this hotel.

The location and decor are both very good. The food in the grill restaurant was very good too. Breakfast was good on both days that we stayed. « GOOD VALUE »

We were very pleased with our weekend stay. Just one point that needs to improve and that is the service in the 114 restaurant. This is a shame as the food was good. Our room was on the second floor and was very quiet. However there was no lift.

« Gemma G, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Lion Hotel, responded to this review »
Dear Guest, Thank you for your kind review, and I will take on board your feedback about the bar service and pass it to the manager. We do have a lift, but due to the structure of the building, you can only reach about half the rooms with lift access, we do also have rooms available on the ground floor. If you book again and need lift or ground floor access, please let me know. Best wishes, Gemma

    « great hotel »

Stayed 1 night at the Red Lion on 1st July on a groupon deal checking in staff were helpful and friendly as were all the staff we came into contact with. The room we were in (209)was great, very spacious and spotlessly clean and so was the bathroom with walk in shower and bath. The hotel is ideally situated close to both the 6screen cinema and shops and market we ate in the hotel's 114 bar and grill (already reviewed) breakfast was brilliant and everything was freshly cooked to order. Will certainly use this hotel again and highly recommend.

« Excellent in ALMOST every way. »

Attending a nearby weekend function, and not wishing to meet the inflated charges for on site accommodation my wife and I selected The Lion as our base. As it turned out a wise choice with almost everything exceeding our expectations. The "executive" room was a delight. Spotlessly clean, modern, and very well equipped - air conditioned, usual tea making and ironing equipment and in room WiFi (free). The bathroom was superb - not much smaller than our lounge at home and with both a 7' bath and a separate shower enclosure! The only downsides were due to the Lion being a town centre facility - the results being a severe lack of car parking (a little inconvenient for a blue badge holder). The reception staff were superb however and fitted us in when required. The bar and grill style restaurant was a great surprise - expecting the usual bought in and heated fare we were served quite the opposite. A steak and mushroom pie, fully double the expected size with an astonishing amount of meat within. It turned out the food was made fresh on site by somebody who knew what they were doing! Even "our" waiter was able to discuss the finer points of pastry (with my wife I might add) Pub grub setting - best restaurant food!. One further point of note - on returning fairly late on Saturday night we were treated to an unintended free cabaret (again a consequence of being a bit of a night spot) we found the garden area of the Lion infested with groups go screeching "young ladies" well loaded with copious quantities of "falling down water". I mention this with amusement and NOT as a complaint. Peace reigned inside.

Dear Mac, I'm so glad you had a good time here, we are putting a lot of work into the bar at the moment, it even has it's own TripAdvisor page now! See 114 Bar & Grill. If you book again, please drop us an email, and we'll see if we can get you back in the same room. Best Wishes, Gemma

Clean hotel some rooms require updating all need air con as standard. Breakfast a little disappointing not much hot choice staff were helpful as we left an item in our room after check out and they saved it for us to collect later

« Gemma G, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Lion Hotel, responded to this review »
Dear Rachel, Thank you for your feedback. We are actually currently renovating the hotel, and all the newly refurbished exec rooms and suites will have air con and over half have already been done. Unfortunately, we can't do all the rooms at once and have to take it quite slowly. If you in a standard double, fans are available if you need one, just contact reception. Gemma

Visiting Worksop was a trip down memory lane and gave us the opportunity to meet long-standing friends. Staying at The Lion was the ideal base - so much so that we hope to visit again in 2017. The whole thing worked perfectly.

« An excellent weekend at The Best Western Lion Hotel »

A great weekend staff were helpful and courteous. The breakfast and service were second to none. The room was nice and comfortable. The hotel is in the city centre were there are a number of good real ale pubs which we like. There is also lovely walks or runs in our case down the canal or through the local park.

« Great place to Stay »

From the minute we arrived the staff were very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The room was quite large and very comfortable. The restaurant was very reasonably priced and the food was great. We will definitely stay at the Lion Hotel the next time we visit Worksop

Me and my husband have visited this hotel on several occasions and can honestly say the food, service and prices are excellent. The function room is beautiful and the rooms are clean with lovely comfy beds, service is magnificent, nothing is ever too much to ask for and the staff are very friendly and polite. Best in the area!

    « 4th visit »

Our fourth visit on a Groupon voucher. We upgraded to be in room 208 which we had been in previously and we love it. A bit disappointed not to have dressing gowns available this time though. Room is lovely however very spacious and an excellent bathroom. We had a meal at the hotel like we usually do but was disappointed not to get 20% off as we had done previously. There were quite a few flies in the restaurant due to a door being open and we had to ask for it to be closed. Restaurant was very quiet for a weekend evening. Me and my husband had the steak and mushroom pie which was nice however we found the pastry a bit hard on the bottom. Breakfast was very nice no complaints. Overall still a nice hotel to stay.

« The best food in Worksop »

Me my husband and 3 children went into the Lion hotel tonight for a meal. My children had kids meals which were a good size for the price paid, I had the steak and mushroom pie which was amazing and chocolate brownie with banoffee ice cream. All the staff are professional and the menu has a good variety at good prices. Can't wait to eat here again soon

« peace in the town centre ! »

Our son has moved with the family to Worksop so we looked for a hotel less than 3 miles from his house, We were surprised that it was town centre but quiet !. The room was good, the location excellent, parking easy and most of all, all the staff were helpful and smiling and welcoming. we had breakfast which was OK., could have been slightly better with a greater range of food. All in all great and we shall go again when we next visit, which we shall do regularly !

    « Groupon weekend away. »

Stayed here in March. 6 couples for a relaxing weekend away. The Lion was spotlessly clean and the food was 10/10. The rooms were immaculate very clean and spacious. Set in a lovely location easy access to a wonderful continental market and a great shopping centre. Cannot fault it one bit. Will definitely return to this superb hotel and surroundings.

« Great base for sherwood pines »

My sister and I stayed for two nights room 313, we had concerts on the Friday and Saturday nights. The room was perfect, if not a little warm, the staff were very friendly and courteous. We ate in the hotel on the first night, the food was lovely and very reasonably priced, drinks weren't overpriced either as you find in most hotels. A taxi would cost you about £20 each way to the Sherwood Forest venue if you don't want to drive. There was two functions going on on the Saturday night and we weren't disturbed at all, which was very impressive. You can do a lot worse than staying here, we enjoyed it so much, we're planning another trip just so we can stay again

« Very poor breakfast this stay »

We were very disapoinited with the breakfast on our last stay, the eggs were scambled and like rubber, (No fried eggs offered) The machine for making toast either did not toast the bread at all or it came out lke charcoal.

« Gemma G, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Lion Hotel, responded to this review »
Dear Pauline, The night you stayed with us we served a buffet breakfast, and so we do not put fried eggs out, as they will easily overcook under the buffet lights. We do have a sign up asking guests to order fried and poached eggs from a member of staff, I have asked the staff to ensure that this is placed prominently in future. If you do struggle with the toaster in future, please ask a member of staff. I know you have stayed with us before, and I hope you will come back to us soon. Best wishes, Gemma

« The worlds hottest hotel »

I stayed here (room 309) with my wife and daughter in June. I used to live in Worksop so I know that this is probably the best hotel locally. Generally the hotel was nice and the people helpful however the room was the hottest I have ever stayed in with no way of cooling it down other than opening the windows - not much help in June. The other problem with this is that the rooms overlook the entrance or exit to the hotel and their are guests (and staff) outside smoking literally ALL NIGHT. You would think that they would have put some signs up or fitted some air conditioning to solve this problem so my wife, daughter and I had about 3 hours broken sleep. They were apologetic when we checked out but it was with an almost 'yep we know attitude'.....not much more than that. ......not sure where to stay next time.

« Gemma G, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Lion Hotel, responded to this review »
Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review regarding your recent stay with us. I am sorry to hear that you felt the heat in the hotel was uncomfortable, we are actually working on this and all of our newly refurbished executive rooms do have air condition. For the rooms that don's have air conditioning we do have fans which we can put into the room to make your stay more comfortable. We do have two smoking areas, one outside the front of the hotel and one to the rear. I can also assure you that non of our staff would have been outside smoking as this is against our policy whilst the staff are on shift. Again I do apologise about this however since the hotel itself is non smoking outside is the only area permitted. We do hope to see you again Best wishes

Daughters wedding reception, great day made better by attentive staff (especially Gary). The food was good and brought out to over fifty guest in quick fashion so nobody was waiting & the waiters / waitresses knew your order (good job really as most had forgotten what they had ordered). Evening buffet and bar was up to the same standard with very reasonable bar prices. Our room & bathroom (Manvers) was clean and better than expected. Would stay again without doubt if not for the fact we live only six miles away but stayed over so we could enjoy the night and have a drink. Well done at the Lion and thank you for a great day.

Staff all friendly and helpful. Air conditioning in the room I booked was not available which made sleeping conditions a little uncomfortable. I booked on line including dinner, bed and breakfast. Only one off the staff knew how much the meal allowance was and they tried to charge me £17 extra for the room when I checked out. This was sorted out satisfactorily.

Lovely hotel in the centre of worksop, we were in a large executive room, lovely comfy king size bed and large bathroom with super separate shower, we ate in the bar/restaurant could not fault the evening meal quality and presentation was perfect, staff all pleasant and helpful, the only thing we were not impressed with the old benches at back of the hotel which was a lovely sun trap, a couple of table and chairs would be ideal, having told the manager our concerns he agreed and i am sure he will make the change, if we are in the area again would definitely stay at the Lion Hotel.

    « Nice stop over »

We were due to spend one night in a different Best Western Hotel, but Helen at central reservations managed to get us in here for the night in question. Our room was very nice with a super king bed which was very comfortable, a walk in shower as well as a bath, a good size TV and a nice settee to sit on to watch it, there was also air con which was handy as quite a warm night. We had dinner in the restaurant which was nice and reasonable, and breakfast the next day was buffet style and good. There is parking either side of the hotel at the back of it. As it was a Saturday there was a market running down the high street, when you walked out of the hotel at the front. Only slight thing that upset us, was a 40th party that went on till past midnight with thumping music, and then some very loud mouthed woman shouting along the corridor, at about 1 in the morning. All the staff were nice.

We stayed for 1 night with our 2 children in the clumber suite. It was perfect for our family as it has 2 rooms plus kitchen, lounge. It is a long way from reception ( we counted 9 doors) but was quiet, had good black out curtains, and was really clean. Had a really friendly welcome as we arrived, and all the staff were excellent. « Groupon Weekend »

Hotel is really warm. Windows do open, but for a nice weekend in May this was too hot in the room, if you go in the Summer, you may overheat. Breakfats is a buffet that you collect and then make you way to the bar. If you see the pasties there, get them while you can, they won't be there for long and take ages to be replaced. A reasonable priced hotel with a reasonable service.

    « Excellent Value »

A group of us stayed here for a wedding in Worksop in May 2016. It was a great stay overall, the rooms were clean and comfortable and the price was exceptionally good value. Breakfast was tasty and well stocked. The bar was good and drinks cheap. The service put some hotels 3x the price to shame. Two of us couldn't get a taxi in time to get to the wedding and one of the hotel staff offered to drive us to the church herself!

« good position to local road links »

Had two nights here split over several days. First night was good nights sleep, second night in different room had disturbed sleep, mattress's were worn out and had them sticking in stomach and back, I say mattress's because it was two singles fixed together, I was expecting a double bed! My wife has mobility problems and found it hard to get around the dining area for dinner and breakfast, too many steps. We were on the ground floor, which was good, but had lots of fire doors to pass through to get to room. No disabled parking spot, and very short on parking spaces in general. Not as good a Hotel as the other Best Western we stayed at on our onward journey. Shame, otherwise our stay would have been o.k, food was good and some of the staff were very helpful.

The hotel is at one end of Bridge Street (a long pedestrian street) - TomTom was slightly confused!! It is very convenient. The room called Rufford was large and well laid out. It was very clean. We will stay there again next time we are up in that area.

Enjoyed a 3 night stay here - an ideal spot to explore this part of the world. Friendly and efficient staff made us very welcome. The restaurant was good value for money - nice food although very busy on Friday night and we had wait a while for the food to arrive. Worth waiting for though. Breakfast at the weekend was buffet style, laid out in one room - the tables for eating at were in a different room - a bit of a trek. Breakfast on Monday much nicer - waitress service at the table.

    « A Friendly Hotel »

A good local, clean, friendly hotel. The hotel located on the end of high street, quite and very convenience for shopping and dinning out if necessary. The room size is perfect, friendly staff. An independent restaurant with the bar within the hotel but operated separately.

    « Amazingly good. »

Stayed here for our wedding night as we wanted to be in or near the town, but wanted a comfortable place to sleep. I booked on line, and asked if it was possible to have a 'nice room' as it was a special occasion. The room we had was lovely, immaculately clean, and beautifully presented, I had asked for flowers, which were ordered by the hotel, and were wonderful. Interestingly, the best price I found for the room was on the hotels own website, and for the quality of the accomodation, was excellent value. We didn't eat in the hotel, as we had eaten elsewhere, but we did have a drink in the bar area. The bar was spotlessly clean, the staff polite and friendly, and the atmosphere calm and welcoming........unlike many of the bars in the area!! My only slight negative was the temperature in the room......it was very, very warm, and I couldn't figure out the controller for the aircon unit! Not a major problem, I'm sure if I had felt the need, the staff would have helped out. All in all, I was very pleasantly surprised, the hotel looks rather plain from the outside, but inside the staff, service and quality is great.

Spent two nights at the Lion Hotel and had a great time. It was our second visit on a voucher and it was very good value for money. The rooms are very clean and well kept. My wife and i spent a weekend here and really enjoyed the place. We ate in the restaurant on both nights and the meals where fantastic, especially at the prices charged for them. The staff are helpful, polite and proffessional. The hotel was really busy on both days hosting weddings but we were never left waiting or wanting for anything by the staff. Also an added bonus was the bar prices, very reasonable, a nice change. Thanks to all for a great little break

    « An excellent hotel »

The service of the staff and the overall impression of the hotel was very good. The only downsides were the insufficient parking, although there was a car park just outside the hotel, and breakfast was taken in the bar area, quite a distance from where it was served.

    5
« Comfort and Space away from home »

Because I work away from home on a lot of my projects and for two or three nights a week, I don't 'just want a bed', I want space to allow me to feel that I'm in more than a bedroom. All the rooms I stayed in had a sofa/chair and table which allowed me to chill. The beds were very comfortable too.

Could honestly not fault this hotel. Got a really good deal with woucher and took my boyfriend for his 18th the staff made it extremely special and it was lovely. The food was beautiful and reasonable for the money. I normally hate hotel breakfasts but it was warm there was a wide selection. Fab hotel would go back!

    « Great Location »

Stopped at the Lion Hotel for 2 nights bed and breakfast in April 2016 and were very happy with our accommodation. Large room with comfy beds, flat screen tv, tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer and a good size bathroom with shower over bath, and free wifi although a little patchy in places. Breakfast was excellent (full english) and also ate at the hotel both nights. Really good food menu to choose from. Hotel is ideally situated in the centre of Worksop with free parking and there is a pedestrian shopping precinct right outside the front doors and a multiplex cinema no more than100 yards away. Staff were friendly and helpful, what more could you ask for

My wife and I stayed at this hotel as we were meeting up with friends who live in Worksop. A brilliant stay and would recommend to anyone. The executive room was superb with king size comfortable bed. Food was excellent and so were the restaurant staff. A very enjoyable experience and much better than it looks from the outside. Go in and you will be pleasantly surprised.

We stayed as part of a Groupon on deal ~ fab value! Nice breakfast, pleasant staff. Was pleased to see this on groupon as we've stayed here before previously paying 'full price.' The room we are in is clean and spacious. We're booked in again in July as another groupon deal!

Stayed for two nights and was hugely impressed by the room, the staff, the food and the price. Highly recommended, and an excellent place to stay. The staff in particular were friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. Lovely food as well.

    « Family lunch »

Called in for lunch with my sister and my son on a Tuesday. I have been here on a number of occasions. It's one of my favourite places to eat/have coffee in Worksop. We chose from the menu a baguette with mushroom and Stilton, which was wonderful... It was presented well on a piece of slate with salad and a small bucket of the best tasting ( oblong shaped) chips I have had for a long time. The baguette was really fresh and perfect ( not hard and crusty) it was waitress service, staff were polite and friendly and the hotel was clean and comfortable. We had a really nice time and will DEFINATELY call again for lunch.

« Recent Long Weekend stay »

The rooms are very clean & well equipped. We had a very comfortable stay & thoroughly enjoyed the location. Eating in the restaurant was not quite what we were expecting, as the meals in the evening were more a la carte than expected, but the food was very tasty & well prepared (with exception of Chunky chips with a fish meal). The staff are very friendly & do their best to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. We would definitely go back again.

    « Welcoming helpful staff »

Have stayed at The Lion on a few occasions, usually on a Groupon. This time we were attending a family wedding. I got a special online Winter Rate (£57) for a double room with breakfast included. I requested an updated room in the original part of the building and we were upgraded to an Executive suite which was roomy and comfortable with plenty of windows and light. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend a stay at The Lion. The breakfast is always excellent with good quality local ingredients. The bathroom was clean but a little dated. I had a sneak peek into room 203 where a friend was staying and this had a very modern updated bathroom.

« Good Place to stay for a couple of nights. »

Stayed here earlier this year with my partner nice big room on the ground close to the car park. Went on a deal that included a meal on the first night which was ok. The staff are good here the one down side we felt was the smoking area close to the reception. This was littered with cigarette ends and was dirty and off putting to customers checking in.

    « Big party »

Came here for a big party. There was about 25/30 of us and the food was just edible. The fish cakes tasted like chip shop fish cakes. Really bland. Just that and spinach no sauces or anything so it was just really dry. The salmon was the same really bland dry salmon veg and potatoes. No sauce. I stole my boyfriends horseradish. He had the beef and it was just over cooked. Looked like sandwich beef. And the gravy was powdery. Tasted exactly like chip shop gravy. Everything just screamed. NOT FRESH! My sister had the nut roast which was rock solid. Literally rock solid. She didn't touch it but I tried it and it was probably the worst thing I've ever tasted.... It's a shame because I've heard good things from other people. Maybe it's because we were a big party. Maybe they can't cope with that amount... Or maybe.. They had already got our money So standards no longer mattered. The staff are great though. Really friendly, polite and smiley. The three out of five is purely for them.

    « The Lion's Share »

My husband and I recently stayed here for one night prior to our holiday at Center Parcs. We used a Groupon deal which was a very reasonable price for bed and breakfast. All of the staff that we met were very friendly and helpful. We received an upgraded room which was spacious and very comfortable. The room had Sky TV channels which my husband appreciated so that he could watch the sport. We had a meal in the bar in the evening which was good and a fair price. The drinks were also cheaper than our local area which was an added bonus. Breakfast the next day was also of a good standard, including fresh fruit salad and all the trimmings of a "full English". We have already booked again for December and we are looking forward to a return visit.

    « Excellent return visit »

Returning to the Lion Hotel on a Groupon one night stay we were pleasantly surprised to be told we'd been upgraded. Our room and bathroom were fabulous, fittings and fixtures were of a very standard. The bathroom was very spacious and spotless. Staff again were very pleasant throughout all areas. Our room (205) had it's own air con/heater with remote control. It also had a six foot bed and a Smart TV. All very nice.

    « Better than expected »

Me and my boyfriend came here for our anniversary and it was brilliant. We only stayed for one night, but it was a really nice night, the room was amazing, it had a really nice bed, a bath and a shower, towels, bath and shower gel, they provided us with extra pillows it was really nice. The staff members were all really friendly and helped me find my way around the hotel, they also made sure we were both ok and made sure we had everything we wanted while staying in the hotel.

    « Well worth a visit »

Just returned after two nights in workshop and can't wait to go back. The room was spotless with not only a very modern bathroom suite but also a walk in shower. All the staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We ate in the hotel both nights and enjoyed both meals, (I recommend the pie). The only problem we had was not being able to park in the hotel carpark but we were able to park in the large public car park at the back. I would definitely reccomend this hotel .

    « What a disappointment! »

After reading most of the reviews for this hotel I was really looking forward to going.....it was a birthday treat for one of my friends who is an amazing support to me as my health is very poor and I am virtually housebound. It was a Groupon offer and I rang to enquire if the Hotel and restaurant catered for people with mobility issues for myself and was assured that they do....WRONG!!! There were steps and stairs everywhere with hardly any stair rails so I struggled to get about. Steps up and down to restaurants so I was unable to get my breakfast so my friend got it for me and juggled hers and mine with no offer of help from staff. They did give us a ground floor room but again lots of walking and then steps etc to the bar and restaurant. This left me feeling vulnerable and dependant on my friend Jenny who was happy to help but shouldn't have had to. We had no idea where the restaurant was and was given rushed directions from a member of staff and we actually bumped into others searching for it as well. There was a lift but steps to the breakfast room again. My diet is very restricted but again I was assured on booking that they could cater for me but choice was very limited with virtually no desserts. I had booked a table and surprise surprise it was up some more stairs but I chose a different table without having to climb them. As a Mystery shopper for various companies before I became ill, the customer service was very poor and the lack of facilities for people with mobility problems is practically non existent...goodness knows how I would have managed had I used my wheelchair because of all the steps /stairs...I used my walking stick but still struggled....assistance from staff would have improved my feelings but there was none. Needless to say neither of us will be returning which is a shame because had it met with my issues we would have returned several times as and when my health allowed....

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, I am very disappointed that you didn't enjoy your stay with us. Due to the layout of the building and the hotel being a listed building we don't offer any facilities to help with mobility and this should have been made clear to yourself when you enquired so I apologize that this was overlooked on our part. I do hope you reconsider coming back to stay with us again one day. Best Wishes

« Great stay at a good price. »

I stayed here on a groupon deal. Bed and breakfast with a bottle of prosseco for £45.00. I drove around for a few minutes as the satnav took me to the rear of the hotel and I didn't see the sign which was not illuminated. Car parking at the hotel is very limited but there is a big public car park at the back. Checking in I was allocated a room on the second floor, some distance away. I was very pleased to find it was a suite, very clean, big television, lovely warm shower.........perfect. Popped out for a few beers and back for a great sleep. Nice breakfast in the morning, although the food is in a different room to the dining area. Staff were all friendly and I would have no hesitation in visiting again.

Well we have just got back from our 5 th visit to the lion hotel . And once again we had a fab time . We had an executive room which was lovely complete with fridge . We had a meal in the restaurant on Sunday night which was spot on yet again . The staff although are nearly all young were very helpful and friendly . The room was spotless . We had a buffet breakfast on Sunday morning because it was full but on Sunday morning if was served by the staff in the other restaurant and I must say that I prefer that option but can understand when it's full it's not possible . But I would like to make a special mention to Gemma who is the manager and who yet again looked after us completely . So thanku Gemma and we will see you again soon . stayed here 19th Feb to 21 Feb a Friday and Saturday night. Hotel was really busy with functions but this did not for one moment impact on our stay. The staff were lovely, nothing was too much trouble. Our room was spacious and warm. Shower piping hot and good water pressure. We ate in the hotel on both nights, food was good and plentiful ( we couldn't finish the portions provided) the prices of the food and drinks were really good. Service 5* Room 5* Food 5* We have stayed at the Lion on numerous occasions. It is ideally located for us at the top of Worksop town centre as the Savoy cinema is very close by (less than a 5 min walk). We always feel really at home staying here. We stayed in room 308 on this occasion; an executive suite with 4 poster bed and seating area. Couldn't fault anything, except maybe the pillows were a little hard for our taste, but everyone has their own preference. The room was lovely and quiet and spotlessly clean. We loved the modern feel to the room and en-suite bathroom which had a double shower as well as a bath. We like the fact there was fridge to put some drinks / bottles in that we had bought with us. The TV was so easy to work! A little thing I know, but its only when you have stayed in a lot of hotels that you appreciate something small like this. Lovely seating area with a table and Wifi worked no problem. The breakfasts are consistently fabulous; cooked to order and we love the vegetarian sausages!

    « Lion Hotel 05.02.16 to 07.02.16 »

We returned to this hotel in Feb 2016 after visiting in Jan 2015. The second visit was very disappointing when compared to the exceptional stay we had in 2015. The whole experience was below par. The evening dining was poor. There was no option to use the restaurant, therefore we were directed to the bar area. We were not shown to a table but merely advised to pick where we wanted to sit. The bar appeared to have changed and now has a sofa area in front of the fireplace. This seating was overflowing with people on a night out who appeared to be meeting there before moving on. Some of whom had sprawled on the surrounding tables. The food was generally disappointing. My wife has an intolerance to garlic, consequently she was unable to select any of the starters due to the garlic content and was offered no alternative. For mains I selected the meat pie which I would recommend. My wife ordered the chicken. This meal was a very small portion to say the least. The desserts were misleading. There was a baked apple and egg custard. This suggests to me an egg custard in pastry with some baked apple garnish. It was actually a baked apple scooped out and filled with warm custard. Several of the diners were as disappointed as I was and returned their baked apple. Breakfast the following morning was a buffet located in a side room near the reception. Guests then had to walk quite a distance into the bar area to find a seat. The tables were set for an evening meal and no spoons were anywhere to be seen. We had to ask staff twice before we were eventually handed spoons to eat cereals. We eventually found that tea and coffee was also self service on the edge of the bar in a very ad hoc fashion and again without spoons. On the Saturday evening, we had water rapidly coming into the bathroom through the ceiling light fitting. I reported this personally to the reception staff. The water eventually stopped, but no visit was made to our room to ensure the safety of electrics etc or to assist with the water all over the floor. On the whole, this was a very disappointing visit to what was previously a great hotel. I am not saying that I would never return to this hotel as we do enjoy visiting Worksop, but I would consider alternatives. I don't know whether the hotel has changed hands, but the changes made to the general running of the hotel certainly fell way below our expectations. The changes have spoilt it.

« Evening with Paul Merson »

Myself and some friends went to see the ex-Arsenal and England footballer do an evening at the hotel. It was my first visit and I was vert impressed. The hotel has a decent sized function room, the food we had was excellent and really good value. The bar prices were very reasonable for a hotel, 5 drinks for about £15! The staff were friendly and the toilets were fresh & clean. And the evening was great fun, a great speaker and well organised. Loved it.

« Short weekend break visiting surrounding areas »

Upgraded ourselves to an executive room on arrival with no problems and rally pleased we did. The room was large and spacious, well decorated and with all mod cons. The bathroom was very nicely done, it even gave us some ideas on how to decorate our bathroom at home. We used the bar area one evening and had a meal in there as well which was ok, pretty standard. In the mornings at breakfast we were provided with news papers and the waiting staff took our breakfast order immediately. Arrived in good time and was very good. All in all, decent hotel.

    « Another great stay »

This was our third visit to this hotel, but the first time with our dog. We have always upgraded before, but this was not possible with the dog, so I wondered what a "standard" room would be like. The room overlooked the courtyard/car park, but was quiet. As usual, a comfy bed in a clean warm room. Tea making facilities good, including biscuits. The room was more spacious than I had expected... plenty of room for the dog's bed etc. The young staff members were all very polite and attentive without being intrusive. In particular, Matt who served our evening meal, Kimberley at breakfast and Harriett on reception. Since our last visit, the dining facilities had been altered, so that the cooked breakfast was ordered and tailored to your needs, instead of a serve yourself option. There was an excellent choice of cereals and fruit, croissants, jam etc. I was particularly impressed with the "fruit cocktail" having had some in other hotels where they consisted of a couple of citrus fruits and the odd grape! We reserved a table for dinner and noticed that the dining area had also been refurbished. The food was well prepared, hot and tasty. I had the chicken breast with sweet potato mash and a side order of stilton sauce. My partner ordered the steak which was cooked to perfection. A nice touch was the crispy onion garnish instead of the usual onion rings. Another lovely break... we'll certainly visit again.

« Good choice for Worksop »

Pretty central in the town so handy for most things. The check in was swift and easy. Room was clean, warm and comfortable. Double bed was made up of 2 single mattresses both a big saggy in the middle but still a decent nights sleep was had. Even though the hotel wasn't too busy the car park was full, there's a large pay car park right next to the entrance should the hotel spaces be full. I thought the breakfast was exceptionally good, well the coffee was a bit thin and tasteless but otherwise easily as good as I've had in a 5 star place. We paid less than £45 for a Saturday night in January 2016 - great value for money.

    « Worst Western »

Cold room on arrival in January. A long way to rooms with no help offered to help with bags. Breakfast until 9 and everything cleared from dining room by 9.15. we were on a family get together so a later breakfast on a week day would have been nice. As room was clearly only used for breakfast, what was the rush ? A Manager who clearly does not give a damn and does not communicate. Uncomfortable beds, changed rooms and suggested manager come and see if he could sleep on the bed, springs coming through. The Manager did come to the room and made remarks about new beds being arranged. When I told him that didn't help me, he left the room. I saw manager as I checked out and in the bar he did not even acknowledge me. Very rude. I will never stay in Best Western again. I remembered that we used to stay at Scechley Grange and stopped because of beds and that also was Best Western. As usual cleaning staff unsung hero's, clean. Next night stayed in an Ibis lovely and warm, great comfortable bed.

Dear Guest, Apologies that you did not enjoy your stay with us, we always value feedback from our customers, I have investigated the matter, and hope to address your points: I believe one of our receptionists walked upstairs with you, as you wanted to see another room, and was more than happy to carry a bag with her. If you had more than these bags and required help with the rest I'm sorry you weren't offered help. We are a fairly large hotel, so unfortunately some of the rooms are a distance from reception. If you have any mobility issues, please make us aware of this when you book so we can ensure you are allocated a more suitable room. You reported your concerns with the bed very quickly, and according to our system were moved rooms within 20 minutes of checking-in. We are in a process of refurbishing the hotel, and we are replacing the beds as we complete each room. The heating is controlled in each individual room by the thermostat on the radiator. I believe you had some trouble turning the radiator on, but you were offered someone to come upstairs and help, but managed this before anyone did. The radiator in the room you moved into was not already turned on when you entered the room, but we were not expecting anyone to spend the night in that room. The restaurant is used at other times apart from breakfast, but you shouldn't have felt hurried. Because of the nature of our guests, there is an early breakfast of 6.30 ? 9.00 on weekdays, and later breakfasts on weekends. If you stay again on a weekday, please let us know about requiring a later breakfast, then this can be arranged with the kitchen, and a different place for you to eat can be found if necessary. Please contact the hotel on 01909 477925 if you have any further queries.

« Great Location. Lovely rooms. Friendly staff. »

Stayed here for 2 nights in July last year & we are returning for a weekend at the end of the month. Great central location, ideal for getting around Worksop, with Shops, pubs & dining right on the door step. Worksop itself is a great base for visiting local places such as Sherwood Forest etc... & Creswell Crags is a must!! We upgraded to a suite. Room as lovely. Impeccably clean with lots of space. Large bed, flatscreen, small fridge, sofa, desk, closet etc, with a large bathroom equipped with both bath & large walk-in shower which could fit 2 people comfortably ?? Decor was also nice and modern. Pub downstairs was nice, with a well stocked bar & great food. Breakfast in the morning was decent, buffet style but everything was nice and hot & hadn't been sitting there forever. Free parking which was great however the carpark is very small so parking was limited (there was also a wedding on whilst we stayed which would have played a part to be fair) but there a pay and display all but 20 feet away. Best of all was the staff. Everyone was super friendly & helpful. Couldn't do enough for you. All in all a great stay, which is why we are going back.

    « A night in Worksop »

Stayed here for 1 night. Great central location, good breakfast selection although annoyed that you had to walk round from one room to another with your food and back and fourth for more. Free parking is a plus but only limited spaces. Room was clean and tidy, as expected. Quiet and a good nights sleep. If in Worksop again would stay here.

We stayed at The Best western Lion Hotel for 2 nights. Friendly, helpful staff, clean throughout the hotel. Decent bar and restaurant area. Good variety of Breakfast cereals, Fruits, Yoghurts, followed by a hearty full English. Room service available, Newspapers available.

    « Nice place »

I have stayed here on several occasions. The room was very good, newly refurbished I think. Restaurant and service high quality. A good place to stay. Only small gripe was quality of breakfast coffee. However as hotel was quiet it may have been "sitting on a hot plate" for a while.

    4
    « Good quality room »

All exceeded expectations. Newly refurbished Room. No internet access from when we arrived until leaving 24 hours later which was the downside. Staff told three times but did not sort and did not update on reasons.

    « Comfortable and welcoming »

Our visit was only shortly before Christmas so the hotel staff had their hands full dealing with parties and gatherings of all kinds. We were therefore pleasantly surprised to find the staff consistently courteous and helpful, dealing with our requests as promptly as possible. We found the standard of food served in the bar to be of excellent quality and freshness.

    « New Years Eve »

Fabulous night. Great food, disco and very helpful staff. Very reasonable prices at the bar. Hotel is a little dated in places but nothing to complain about, it is a listed building. Lovely brunch in the morning. Thanks to all the staff for a wonderful evening,

« New Years Eve dinner »

We just had an excellent New Years Eve at the Lion Hotel. The function room looked really nice and the tables were beautifully decorated, all the pre-ordered wine was waiting for us on the table etc. The food was well presented and really tasty and was served by polite and prompt staff who regularly checked to ensure that we were enjoying everything. We were particularly impressed with the magician, who was extremely amusing and even left you with a little memento of the magic to take home :) Whilst it was busy it didn't feel too overcrowded, unlike many venues that tend to really overbook for NYE. There was plenty of room to get a drink from the bar or have a dance in the disco area. Will definitely be going back for New Years again and will bring some friends as well.

    « Good stay »

I stayed here following a work night out, rather than travelling home. Whilst the welcome at check-in was warm and friendly, and the room was clean and adequate for my stay, you just can't help but feel this place suffers from a lack of competition in the local area. I felt a sense of complacency, whereby staff don't need to and therefore don't go the extra mile to look after guests, which is a shame as it has the opportunity to be an excellent hotel

    3
    « Adequate »

Staff friendly...room average with good newly revamped bathroom. First impressions could be improved just by putting some framed pictures on the clean but dank corridor walls leading to rooms. Breakfast was mediocre as cooked ingredients not best quality..ie Sausage and bacon. Most disappointing was that after returning to hotel just after twelve at night bar closed and night porter only able to offer us a drink to take to our room. Considering this was a Saturday night, the week before xmas in a town centre, being told the bar closes at 11pm is quite pathetic.... Cetainly would not return....

    « Walked out! »

Called in this afternoon for a quiet cosy drink with my husband before going to the cinema. I went to the bar to order our drinks. I was told to take a seat and somebody would come and take our order. I explained that we didn't require food just drinks and was assured that somebody would come and take our drinks order from our table which at the time I thought was a nice touch. The restaurant/bar was very quiet with only 3 other tables occupied. We waited 10 minutes and nobody even acknowledged we were sat there ! Not wanting to miss our film , we got up and walked out. Terrible customer service for a best western and spoilt our afternoon out without the kids as we didn't have time to go elsewhere. Won't be returning. Disappointed.

    « Christmas treat »

I recently enjoyed an overnight stay at the Lion Hotel. My works Christmas party was taking place there & decided to book a room & stay over. The hotel is located in an off the road position, quite central for the shops, cinema & bars & restaurants. The ambience is pleasant, all the staff were friendly and very helpful. The room had everything you needed, was exceptionally warm, & a lovely comfortable bed. There was a car park to the rear of the hotel, plenty of spaces when we arrived on a a Friday afternoon. The party food was outstanding, & the wide selection of food choices at Breakfast was very good. I couldn't really fault anything. The bar prices were reasonable & the bar staff very obliging.

    « Fantastic! »

Everything about this hotel was wonderful. I'd certainly never look to stay anywhere else in Worksop. The first time in the area I stayed at the Travelodge which could have doubled as the Bates Motel. The Lion (Best Western) was completely out of this world. Stunning.

    « A great little find »

Stayed here as we were visiting Lincoln Christmas market but couldn't get anywhere to stay close by, opted to look a little further afield. The staff, particularly the receptionist and the evening barman were excellent; both very cheerful and ,made us very welcome. We stayed in a suite which had one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in and a huge bathroom that you had to enter into via steps. Bar prices are good and although we didn't eat there in the evening, the food looked wonderful and nicely presented. Some of the reviews mention the walk from the breakfast room to the dining room (it takes all of 5 seconds even if you dawdle) so don't let this put you off. The breakfast is a buffet style affair and was hot and tasty, the sausages weren't the usual "catering" type. Worth visiting again.

    « Very impressed! »

We have recently returned from a weekend break at this hotel. We booked it using a Groupon voucher, which was very reasonable, so we weren't really expecting too much! But we were pleasantly surprised! The structure of the whole hotel seems quite ramble, so it took us a little while to find our room through all the nooks and crannys, but when we did find it, it was homely, clean and comfortable....huge bed! A few minutes after we had settled into the room, the receptionist rang us in the room to check that everything was satisfactory...service that we loved! The breakfast was very good, served to us on the first day and buffet service on the second. Even though the hotel is situated in the town, it was extremely quiet and we slept without any problem of noise. Service throughout the whole weekend was excellent.....there was really nothing we could fault! Would definitely recommend!

    « Brilliant Stay »

This is the 3rd time we've stayed here and because there weren't many in we had breakfast cooked and served to us, previously it's been a buffet. We were told when it's too busy they can't serve everyone. We stayed in room 210 and it had a huge bathroom with a bidet, very good. The room was big and so was the bed. It's a great place to stay and food is good and as it's at the top of the main street everything is on hand. We had a good and quiet sleep as usual. Will no doubt be back. Thank you.

« Good Lccal Hotel - Third Visit »

We recently made our third visit to The LIon Hotel and again we were completely satisfied The room was clean with a welcoming tea/coffee tray and the staff very friendly The Hotel is situated in the centre of Worksop town so very convenient for shopping I would definitely recommend

    « Working progress »

The hotel has upgraded some of its rooms to a very good standard, unfortunately the other rooms and corridors look very tired and the level of service from the staff fit more with the tired dated rooms than with the new look rooms. Hotel guests are a very low priority next to weddings and private hire. The Restaurant was closed for the night and the private function room let our to a wedding group that made a lot of noise . Breakfast was served in a small room and guests were expected to carry food and drinks from that room into the bar for consumption .

    « November 2015 4 day Company Course »

Quality approach throughout, room comfy and clean, staff very friendly and helpful. Accessing rear / main car parking required excellent directions from Receptionist Alex, due to Worksops one way road system. Free internet was fast and usable throughout hotel, TV and room facilities good quality. Worksop not the nicest of locations at night, but excellent multi screen cinema adjacent on main street.

    « Weekend away »

The hotel is centrally located and the staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was a good size but the bed was very creaky. The room had hot water in the evening but there was none in the morning to have a shower. The breakfast was good but would prefer a waiter service rather than getting your own. Had a good weekend away there and would recommend the hotel. The night life there is good and if you fancy a really good place to eat then head to the Italian it's a fantastic night had a real good laugh.

I will pass your comments onto the relevant departments Hope to see you again Best wishes

    « Awful »

Awful location, felt scared to walk my dog. Right on the high street full of rowdy people and rough people. Nowhere to go at all near the hotel. Advertised on group on as near sherwood forest and was nowhere near in a horrible town. Breakfast in a different room in luke warm trays. Not impressed.

« Gemma P, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Lion Hotel, responded to this review »
Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. I am sorry that you felt scared that you couldn't walk your dog, we are a town center hotel but we are in the quiet part of the town center and never experience any issues of antisocial behavior on our doorstep. I am sorry you felt this way. Sherwood forest is a 15 minute drive from the hotel and we also have Clumber park which is a 5 minute drive from the hotel. Our buffet breakfast on a weekend is always kept up to the correct temperature and we use hot lights and regularly top the food up with freshly cooked items to ensure the quality and temperature stay the same. I am sorry you felt that this wasn't appropriate and we have taken your comments on board and I have passed them onto the correct departments. Best wishes

    « Average in Worksop »

2 Nights for business. £123.33 for 2 nights The room was ok but a bit shabby and tired. The room was cleaned whilst I stayed but cups and a glass left dirty. The bar and restaurant are nice and modern but the staff are so busy in their own conversation that you feel you are definitely intruding in their domain. At breakfast a waiter completely ignored me, and continued serving other guests. I eventually realised that I wasn't sitting at one of his tables when a waitress came to serve me. The individual staff here are quite friendly and helpful but there seems to be a very odd hierarchy in place. Also not quite happy with the £74.00 taken by card as cover for charge-to-room. The receptionist insisted I paid the whole amount on the same card and the £74.00 had already been charged. I don't think this is quite right.

    « Still very good »

Stayed here again with a Wowcher, B & B, great value for money. I think the rooms have been refurbished since our last stay in September last year, nice & very comfortable. Our room (113) had a huge double zip-link bed which was fab, bath with over shower, everything clean & tidy, always lots of tea, coffee & biscuits. Only one problem, which I forgot to mention, there was a very noisy, extractor fan, I think it could only have been the fan, in one of the adjoining bathrooms, which fortunately didn't spoil our sleep but very irritating. We had our evening meal here which was very tasty & breakfast was also very good. Wouldn't hesitate to return & recommend.

    « Leisure visit »

Booked two nights. Had first night last. Room very nice, hotel overall clean and welcoming, staff friendly and helpful. However I have just had the worst breakfast experience in any hotel I have visited (I am a regular user of the Best Western Hotels). Buffet breakfast which was in a totally different room to where you ate it. Had to carry breakfast through reception area, down some steps, through bar area into restaurant. Only eggs on buffet were scrambled, you could order fried or poached but by the time they came breakfast was either cold or finished. Decided to have a croissant which was hard and dry. Very disappointing altogether

    « Great hotel »

This was a Wowcher deal, and my first stay in a Best Western Hotel. I would definatley use Best Western again. There's not much happening in Worksop, which is a shame, there a couple of nice coffee shops and a couple of pubs. It isnt far from other attractions though, such as Sherwood Forest, which we fully took advantage of on the Sunday. The hotel itself was lovely. The room was huge, and really quiet. The staff were great. Approachable and couldnt do enough for you. We decided to stay at the hotel on the Saturday night, and have a meal in the restaurant and drinks att he bar. The food was really reasonably priced and delicious, my boyfriend had rump steak which was cooked to perfection. We had no issues with waiting for service. We spent the rest of the evening in the hotel bar. You'd expect the drinks to be expensive with it being a hotel? Wrong! This hotel does not rip you off!! After a great nights sleep, we went down to a really good quality breakfast. If we were to ever stay in this area again, we would stay here. You wont be dissapointed!

    « Fab upgrade! »

Having booked an executive room we were upgraded as Best Western members to an available suite where we found a five piece bathroom and a huge waterbed. .....what luxury! Greatly appreciated as my birthday was during this stay. Our stay was comfortable and surprisingly undisturbed given the number of occassions the hotel was catering for over the days we were there. We ate in the bar the first night and found the food very good and the staff attentive. Breakfast in the dining room, however, saw us tilting the orange juice holder to get any out as the only other option was apple juice, being served up someone elses tea and coffee which was taken away when we pointed out it wasnt what we had ordered and then having to ask again for toast which was ordered and then not delivered!. The cold buffet items were fairly sparse and the cheese and meat platter when served was disappointing. Only two types of cheese but they HAD been served in large portion to make up for the lack of choice. The continental meat selection contained roast beef, roast ham and a slice of parma ham so again not really what I was expecting. The cooked breakfast, on the other hand and on another day was of good quality and with lots of variety. Checking in and out was simple and well organised and all staff were pleasant and helpful- even when the lights blew in our room and they had the problem sorted in about five minutes. Its such a help to have wifi in the rooms too and to know that it is a fairly good connection. We will definately return.

« lovely hotel poor service in restaurant »

Stayed for one night on a group on deal. Hotel room as expected although a little chilly and quilt was a bit thin. Ate in the 114 grill downstairs, lovely starter but followed by very poor service , meal came out luke warm and was sent back returned after about 5minutes with new chips even though we requested a complete new meal . distance of the bar from the kitchen is too far for meals to come out hot also more staff would have helped also they need training to listen to customers orders so they get it right

    « Decent but noisy »

Rooms were old of course but in reasonable condition, staff were generally helpful. Room overlooked the rear entrance and was very noisy because of people below the window, gathering after a party in another part of the hotel. Breakfast was good, with a nice range of options. Enjoy lunch in the hotel.

« Good value for money »

The Lion is not the most upto date hotel you will stay at but the rooms are tidy, clean and comfortable and for that reason i would recommend this hotel, While staying here Ifound a good Thai restaurant just up the road from the cinema and a good pub further on also called the Lion.

« Really friendly, helpful staff »

We have stayed here quite a few times in recent months, the hotel is very conveniently located, one side is on the main pedestrian thoroughfare and there is hotel and public car parking to the rear of this old, renovated building. The reception, foyer and bar area are immediately welcoming. There is a large space for hire and this seems very popular for all kinds of celebratory occasions.
