« A lovely stay at Best Western Livermead Cliff Hotel »

14th May 2018 I cant believe where time goes it was a month ago today we stayed here on Saturday 14 April 2018 for four nights and left on Wednesday morning Wednesday 18 April 2018 with a couple of friends and then went onto our ususal venue for South Devon at Raddicombe Lodge (see other reviews) We enjoy going down to South Devon as its only about an hour and half from home and this is our short break we do once a year. We ususually stay at Raddicombe Lodge for the week but this time cos we was friends we stayed here for four nights as did evening meal. We was left disappointed as with all Best western hotels we have stayed in they are clean and comfortable and the Livermead is the same. The Livermead is situated nicely on the seafront of Torquay and has lovely views over the bay. At the Livermead hotel there is nice secluded beach bay which we had a view from the room and was lovely to here the sound of the sea. The hotel at the Livermead has a nice lot of sitting areas and lounges and decking and lovely place to relax. The room was excellent and well clean and the staff were all lovely and helpful and approachable and nothing was to much trouble and the service at breakfast and evening meal was excellent. The food both at breakfast was lovely and nice lot of choice on the menu and did not feel rushed and all waiters and waitresses took pride in appearance and in your day. Im sure we will return to Best Western Livermead Cliff Hotel Torquay at sometime for another break as it was well run and exceptionally clean. I passed comment when leaving about they only got 3 stars and should be more and they said its cos the facilities so if you want a gym or play room dont come here but the service and food and cleanliness is certainly a five star standard.

« super views but needs updating »

Anthony one of the managers and Lucy helped make our stay memorable and made up for the appallng service we received on our first evening, when 2 of the senior staff barged past us and another couple panicking as reception had not put through our dinner reservations so tables had to be hastily rearranged. Room 53 has super views but needs updatng along with the small TV

    « Very friendly hotel »

This was our first visit to this hotel as we went on a rock and roll weekend but stayed from Thursday to Monday. It was excellent, all the staff are very friendly and helpful, the food is excellent and the views are beautiful. They do allow dogs providing they are well behaved and are allowed anywhere but the restaurant, but you can have a meal in the bar area which is also very pleasant and the terrace has a bowl of water for them. Worth booking a sea view room

« Fantastic views, comfy room and lovely staff »

I booked a family room for myself and my parents as a surprise stop over. We had room 56 which was a really nice sized family/triple room. This is a sea view room and well worth the extra cost as it really was a great view. The hotel is a little dated (as are most Best Westerns) but the hotel and our room was clean. Our room had a door to a shared patio area which was a great place to take photos, but beware of the seagulls! Staff were fantastic, helpful and friendly especially Verkka who served us in The Riviera Terrace restaurant. The rump steaks were cooked just as we had asked and were good quality, the menu said the steaks were served with Chunky Chips but we were offered a choice of fries instead which for us was a preferred option. Breakfast was also very nice with a good choice of juices - only one missing was Cranberry Juice which typically is what I prefer (can'r win them all I guess!). The full English was nice and cooked well, bacon and sausage both very tasty and I'm pleased to say the sausage was a proper plan breakfast sausage not full of herbs! We were offered extra toast and hot drinks the staff really couldn't do enough to be helpful. Only think I think could have been better - in the bathroom was an old hairdryer on the wall which was covered in parcel tape, this really should be removed as it's an eyesore and inoperable. There was a normal hairdryer in the dresser drawer anyway. Will definitely be staying here again

    « Rearly Recommended!?? »

Booked Bed & Breakfast at the Livermead Cliff Hotel for one night .Plenty of Safe parking places . From the moment we entered we were met with a welcoming smile and good afternoon from the Receptionist. The Hotel is bright and airy and has a relaxed feel to it . The double bedroom was clean and the bathroom had little touches like fluffy white towels on a heated towel rail . The breakfast was faultless -excellent service /good choice of everything . Will be back !

    « FANTASTIC !!!!! Dancing Weekend for 90 People »

Just a little note to - The Management Team, Receptionists, Bar Staff, Waiters, Chefs, Housekeeping, Maintenance Staff, and Night Porters We felt that a very big thank you to everyone involved in the running of the Livermead Cliff Hotel was required from all of us at LETS DANCE With the help off all your staff, their friendliness, urge to help and get involved, their professionalisum and attentiveness throughout the weekend made it possibly the best we have had. The food served was of excellent quality with such a wide menu selection that suited everyone. Nothing was too much trouble and always done with a smile. Even the little things like finding a room for Sandy Sparkle to change between her acts rather than using the ladies toilet, and with putting up with us all in our 60's and 70's outfits Friday night. I have received so many positive comments from everyone, The receptionists were so helpful, the waiting staff were so engaging and helpful with any dietary requirement, housekeeping were so friendly and always chatted, and the bar staff were outstanding. We are looking forward to the next time we can arrange a weekend with you A BIG THANK YOU from LETS DANCE If you visit this hotel you will not be disapointed, we took 90 people down for a 3 night weekend break and it was outstanding...... and don't miss out on the coffee and home made shortbread from the bar !!!!

    « one night stay »

A very comfortable night's stay, following a Charter Anniversary Dinner for Babbacombe & St Marychurch Lions Club. Comfortable beds in a comfortable room. Nice bathroom and shower, if a little small, but adequate for our means.

« Nice hotel and excellent staff but shame about the bed and the breakfast »

We stayed because we were attending a spring ball ion aid of cancer research. Overall the hotel is a traditional English hotel with excellent staff. However there were 2 basic issues. Firstly the bed was extremely uncomfortable, soft and bouncy which made for a difficult night's sleep. The second issue was the full english breakfast. I was pleased that they had veggie sausage however when the breakfast was served it was very unappetizing. The component parts of the breakfast had obviously been sat under a heat lamp for a long time. The shame of it all was that other than these 2 important issues the stay was very enjoyable and the ball we went to was excellent with good food and attentive staff.

    « Awful »

Very tired hotel with poor facilities, small bath.very hard thin pillows, tiny television screwed to a table lower than the bed, customer service half hearted and breakfast was a disaster four attempts at a fried egg and two attempts at a boiled egg served up by a very rude waitress. I would not recommend this hotel if you are expecting a pleasant and comfortable stay in Torquay.

    « Disappointed »

Looks lovely on the website, so very disappointed when we arrived. On a positive note, staff were very friendly. Got to the room, and it was absolutely freezing. Looked like 2 campbeds had been set up. No bath, just a caravan size shower. Asked for a new room, mainly because of the cold. The curtains were blowing about so thought window had been left open, but it wasn't. Moved to new room next door. Much bigger with a double and single bed, and good size bathroom. But again, freezing cold. I can only assume that part of the hotel is not normally open in a winter. There was only a small radiator to heat the room and it wasn't on when we arrived. The bedding was so thin. Spent a sleepless night just because of the cold. Had to bunch the curtains up against the window to minimise the draught. Arrived in the dark so didn't get to see the stunning view from our window. Would do again....but only in summer. Or tip for the staff...if you are expecting guests to arrive in the evening on a freezing cold night...would it hurt to put the heating on.

    « Sunday Lunch - Excellent !! »

Another excellent Sunday lunch - all served up in the light, airy restaurant. Smart, courteous staff under the leadership of General Manager Peter McClurg. A stunning location and a comfortable lounge for coffee - could not ask for more !!!

    « Post Easter Stay »

Stayed for a three night post Easter break, and had a delightful twin bed sea view room. There was some bar renovation work going on, but this did not spoil the stay - indeed it is good that it is being upgraded. Enjoyed both breakfast and one evening meal in the restaurant , as well as bar snacks- not our first stay, nor our last, and again would happily recommend.

« Lovely stay at this hotel »

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Our room was overlooking the sea and was spacious and had everything you needed. Very clean and lovely big bathroom. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent and a lot better than many Best Western hotels we have stayed in. Will definitely book again.

« Lovely weekend in Torquay »

We spent two nights at the BW Livermead Cliff hotel in Torquay with friends and 3 children in total. Hotel was very accommodating and put the two families in opposite rooms. We had a great time at the hotel, staff very friendly, rooms were very clean, well heated, lots of space and great views. Breakfast was excellent, especially the cooked breakfast. You can walk into the town centre along the coastline, which we all enjoyed. I would happily stay again.

    4
« Comfortable Hotel with a Sea View »

Room a bit on the 'cosy' side but bed comfortable and the windows open which is always a bonus. Shower-room was rather small too but had all the necessary. Whilst it had a sea view you pretty much had to lean into the window to see anything, but view it had as we had requested so can't really complain! Service was good both from reception, bar and restaurant but we were rather surprised at how many stairs there were throughout the building, three steps up to get into the restaurant with no alternatives but you could get a very old rickety lift up to the first and second floors. We did not eat in the restaurant in the evenings but did eat each night in the bar area where there was a lighter choice of menu, breakfast was good too. So, not really suitable for disabled but a nice spot.

« Excellent food and service »

Stayed here for 3 nights with friends. Fantastic location overlooking the sea. My room was a bit pokey and overlooked the car-park but, unfortunately, I have come to expect that as a single traveller. The hot water wasn't very hot but after complaining on the 3rd day that it had progressed from tepid to cold I was moved to a far superior room with a sea view (and hot water) which was lovely - for my final night. The food far surpassed expectations. Breakfast was excellent with a cold buffet and hot food freshly cooked to order. For the evening meal there was plenty of choice of starters, mains and desserts. The restaurant was busy each night but the service was exceptional with silver service and sufficient waiting staff to cope with large numbers. This hotel can be very proud of its staff. Without exception they were friendly, helpful and efficient. Altogether a very enjoyable weekend.

    « Disappointing afternoon tea »

Visited for a special family occasion booking afternoon tea. Staff were friendly and polite, however the venue was very cold and there was a real lack of presentation with the afternoon tea thick cut cucumber in the sandwich, and only 2 choices of cakes & one plain scone, tea only no other choices offered & the team were over eager to clear away before we had finished. Not great value for money.

    3
« Time for an upgrade! »

I spend time in plenty of different hotels for business, Best Western being one chain. While all staff have been polite & always happy to help, I've been stunned at how tired everything is. The room, while clean did require an overall which should include the bathroom & water system, as I'm not a fan of cold showers! even the hand basin water didn't heat up enough for a proper wash. The mattress was lumpy with noisey springs every time you move. The room was hot without being able to cool it down (the window did open but the road noise was dusturbing). My evening meal was also not really what I expected...I ordered gnocchi with a port & stilton sauce... what I got, I needed to ask for a spoon... the amount of sauce was more like a soup with gnocchi. The eggs at breakfast just didn't taste right so they were left and my last suggestion would be that the older waiter at breakfast should consider having his jacket washed as it was dirty & not something I want to see by the person serving my food. I'd like to say more positives but other than the hotel location i'm sorry to say that I can't. I will not be staying here again and will not be recommending it. Note to Best Western.... put some of your profits into updating your hotels.

    « A perfect stay »

(My first review) The room was a good room. We had excellent service throughout the stay, especially at check in and at meal times. The food was delicious, and exceeded my expectations. The hotel is ideally located in Torquay, about 30 minutes I'd say to the pier and it has a great sea view.

    « Low end of 3 Stars »

On the understanding that this hotel was only three stars, due to the location, I booked a night in a ?double sea view room? at £124 including breakfast for my partner and me. It is the ?getaway? weekend before Valentine's Day. I understand the slightly inflated price. However, regardless of the stunning view, I sadly regret staying. We made the best of it through a break is a break. The room was basic, with a small TV with Freeview and a cheap hairdryer, and the obligatory phone as the only amenities available. However, the universally found travel kettle and single serving tea and coffee packets were there. The top item on the groan list for me was the shower was effectively cold. Initially, I thought I turned the tap the wrong way, but turning it the other way the flow becomes a cold a crazy dance to turn it back the other way while shouting out curse words in rapid succession! It was that cold! Not enjoyable! As both my partner and I were tired, getting a good nights sleep was a priority. There I made another mistake in asking on check-in if any parties or receptions was going on. The warning signs were there! Ballons everywhere! The band or DJ was lively and upbeat from what we could hear, and worse what we could feel. The beats and vibrations and music were quite noticeable, and we were on the second floor with it dying out around 11:30 pm. No early night for us! However, we did get to watch a free fireworks display out of the window, which I assume was linked to the celebrations below. Again, notwithstanding the star rating, the standard of the room was at the low end of three stars. Housekeeping needs to pay more attention to detail. The was visible dust on places, and we were not looking for faults. We are not hotel inspectors! However, dust on the headboard of the bed and the window ledges was quickly discovered by my partner. If you are putting a premium on sea views, while I understand it is Winter, but it is transparent the windows have not had external cleaning in a while. To enjoy the outstanding bay views we had to open the Window. The breakfast also struggled to hit the value for money barrier for me. The selection of the continental was very limited, and the meats well appeared to be yesterdays and cheap. The toast was most disappointing, cheap bread and not well toasted. Perhaps turn up the toaster a notch or two! As when it reaches the table it frankly cold! There was a questionable wait for the ordered breakfast, and on appearance, it was well underwhelming, and portion size was small. It was definite catering quality food; not premium food was being served. Maybe we could have been more prescriptive in asking for things like ?two slices of bacon? If this was the case and the key to getting value for money, it really should be made out clearly on the menu! So maybe the portions size was our fault, I do not want to seem too critical but either way, I was disappointed. I love bacon! Sadly the only small sausage tasted cheap. I did request no mushrooms, so that does not help the photo, but a single bacon slice and small scatter of beans does not justify the cost. At least unlike the showers the plate and food were hot! Don't get me wrong it was all edible but just didn't hit the value for money expectation. It was the standard you would expect for £3.99 in a cheap greasy spoon. On the plus, unlike many hotels, the filter coffee was nice and very drinkable and for me was the best part of the breakfast. The staff personally cannot be faulted, friendly and exceptionally helpful and polite in all interactions. I would name them, but as with most of the service industry being of European origins, I simple cannot pronounce their names! That failure on my part not a reflection on these hardworking, and dedicated staff! The receptionist was exceptionally helpful and friendly. Overall, the place is a hotel trying to be more luxurious than it is, their location, garden and view is what brings people here. The lack of attention to detail and value for money is what will keep me from returning! However, given the location as a tourist hotspot, it is understandable why the prices are higher than should be it is a tradeoff, My advice is that it is a roll of the dice; your stay might be better than mine! Simply put 3 stars from me.

Just had the most wonderful weekend conference at the Livermead Cliff which was made all the more enjoyable by the welcome, the cooperation, comfortable accommodation, lovely food and super attention by all the staff throughout.. nothing was too much trouble. « Come again? »

Having had a pleasant stay last year we returned in September and, once again, had splendid weather. We were given the same room as before in spite of writing a critical review as to its very dated decor and a bath too high-sided to use so no showers that week. Unfortunately we were besieged with coach parties and choirs so we couldn't use the lounges in the evenings. They were very noisy, even singing into late night but we heard nothing in our room. It was cleaned well each day but the sofa sagged badly and the stair carpets and lighting were dangerous. Following my mentioning this nothing was done before we left but the maintenance man called to say it was in hand. Peter was sympathetic and suggested other rooms for the future but I wish these large parties could have been mentioned on booking as we would have changed dates. The food was good with good variety and presentation but breakfasts bars were stripped by so many large parties. I understand they have more favourable rates but no priority was given to full-paying ad loyal guests. A wedding was arriving just as we did but the staff coped well and were helpful. We would have preferred not to have been on the ground floor as my disability made the walk to the restaurant quite difficult as stairs were very steep and the hand-rail didn't reach the full length The entertainment wasn't! Two nights were advertised but the acts were very old, out-dated and cleared the area. Next time I'll ask a few more questions before booking but would be happy to return as the views, the good car park and the friendly staff gave us a good break.pp

« This Hotel is one of the best Hotels we have stayed in for a long time . »

We arrived mid afternoon on Saturday and were greeted by the Duty manager Anthony who showed us three rooms in which we could stay in . The last room was a suite and Anthony said that it would not be booked today so we could have it at a reduced rate .It was a fantastic room with sea views and a quirky Victorian bathroom. We went back to reception and checked in and then returned to the room where a member of House keeping was making sure that every thing was to her high standard !! . We had some food in the bar and the service was again excellent .We went out and came back to our suite and then went down for our evening meal. The food and service was faultless , there was an abundance of good well trained and attentive staff . Nothing was missed. We took our coffee in the lounge and then retired to our room . The cost of food and wine was not extortionate either. In the morning Breakfast was served again to a very high standard with a good selection of cold and hot food. The waiting staff did not miss anything and were superb in their presentation and service. It is very clear to see that there are very good Managers running this Hotel who manage and train their teams very well . It is very clear that they enjoy what they do and give exceptional customer service without thinking about it. This Hotel is one of the best Hotels we have stayed in for a long time . Thank you for a fabulous stay and we will be back

    « Christmas Day Lunch »

My Mum and I regularly visit the Livermead Cliff Hotel for Sunday lunch so it was the obvious choice for lunch on Christmas day. As is customary, Anthony Rew made everyone welcome and added to what turned out to be a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I feel that a special mention should go to the General Manager (PETER) who led the Restaurant team seamlessly through what must be the busiest time of the year. None of this would have been possible without the Chef's expertise in choosing a superb menu and producing a real treat ! All the staff were courteous and attentive and I could not fault one single aspect of a thoroughly enjoyable lunch.

All staff could not do enough for us,nothing was to much trouble even though they had large Christmas functions over our 3 day stay. The general manager went out of his way to assist and help everyone. The food was excellent we had a great time, looking forward to January when we will be there for another 3 day weekend.

« 1st stay, certainly would stay again »

Family of 6 adults, 2 teenagers and 2 under 10's. Stayed in 2 family rooms and one double room, all large, very comfortable and all with sea views. Stayed for 2 nights DBB, food was excellent at both breakfast and dinner. Service was always friendly, bright and cheerful. We all enjoyed it. Drinks were reasonable for a good hotel.

    « Always good »

We returned from our turkey & tinsel a couple of weeks ago. We have been doing out T&T there for the past 8 years and as always it was brilliant. The staff all friendly pleasant and very helpful the rooms clean and spacious many with lovely sea views and the food is superb with so much variety to choose from all offered with silver service in a very elegant dinning room. The entertainment was good except for the last night. We had a guy who obviously couldn't sing so decided to talk us to sleep instead I think he thought he was entertaining residents of an old folks home Apart from him everything else was great a big thank you to Anthony and all of his lovely staff

    « Disappointing. »

As a Best Western rewards member we stay at BW hotels regularly. This is the most expensive room we have booked over the last few months. I wanted a twin room and was told there was only a superior room available, with sea view. I will admit that the sea view was lovely but, as we were only there for a night, it wasn't essential. The room was not very big, with a double and a single bed. Linen and towels were white and good quality. The bathroom, though, was dreadful. The suite was avocado!! The loo was so close to the bath you couldn't actually sit fully on it! The shower was over the ancient green bath. It was poor. No safety bath mat provided. The dining room was very nice, as was the breakfast. It was not worth the price and was definitely not worth the £30 per night more than all the other BW hotels we have stayed at.

« Entertainment at its worst »

Just returned from 4 nights at livermead cliff hotel , hotel was very clean , the bedrooms were massive maid service excellent , staff always polite and helpful , only downside was evening entertainment first night was ok but then it all went downhill Wednesday there was a singer with a guitar don't know who told him he could sing but he was awful , didn't think it could get any worse but Thursday night there was a man on an organ he obviously thought he was in Blackpool tower ! He didn't sing just played the organ badly ! He spoke to us guests as if we didn't have a brain between us ,he was patronising and very disrespectful talking as if we were all idiots . Lovely hotel good service but management need to look at the entertainment they are offering paying guests because when guests are expecting evening entertainment they're not expecting the rubbish that this hotel is offering . Big let down very very disappointed ,so if you're visiting this hotel I'd book a taxi into town .

    « Excellent Lunch »

We joined a large group of friends for lunch at this hotel and the food and service was exceptional. Wonderful, mushrooms for starter, roast pork for main with crunchy crackling, and apple crumble to finish, with a nice bottle of Zinfandel to wash it down. Thank you and well done Tony Rew and your staff.

    « Not impressed »

Arrived for a one night stay on business and on reaching my room found it very hot. Went to use the shower and temperature was difficult to control. After the shower I discovered I only had one hand towel and one medium sized towel to dry myself with, and no towel bath mat. Secondly I went down for an evening meal and ordered pork loin steak as beef steak was another 16 pounds on top of the price already paid for the meal. When the loin steak arrived, from the first cut into it, it was obvious that it was undercooked as there was blood all around it and was uncooked in the centre. So I asked for it be replaced and after 10 minutes I received another. But this one was really hot and overcooked and it was obvious from the melted cheese on top and the heat that chef Mike ( microwave ) had been used. I will definitely not stay there again.

« Friendly Hotel in Lovely Position »

I recently stayed here for two nights for a conference. I had a beautiful large room with lovely views over Torquay and the bay. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent. There are nice public areas with wonderful views. I would highly recommend this hotel.

    5
    « Very pleasant stay »

Whilst we agree that the decor in this hotel is a little dated, we found it to be very clean & full of character. We received a very friendly welcome from the reception staff and the bar staff who served us a lovely coffee with free, excellent quality biscuits. Our room (53) had a huge comfortable bed, a stunning view across the bay and a large ensuite. The only comment about the bathroom is that the shower head could do with being descaled or replaced. After a peaceful nights sleep we had a hearty, freshly cooked breakfast with attentive service. Very good quality & service for the money that we paid & we intend to return. Thank you to all the staff who made our stay a happy one after what had been a difficult week for us following a family bereavement.

    « Dissapointing »

Booked in for a two night stay in this 3* accommodation. Service staff were very good. Décor very 70's/80's, in need of modernisation. Food is mediocre and expensive for what it is. Bedroom, very tired, marks on the carpet, and the bathroom smelled awful, (stale urine smell). This is very basic stuff which should have been dealt with. The smell lingered through out the room. Ordered some ice to be delivered to the room for drinks. We were very surprised to find a charge on our room invoice for £5.00 room service and food!!!! needless to say we refused to pay this particularly as there was no mention anywhere of room service charges. £5 for ice which was delivered in an ice bucket and looked as if it had been rescued from a function, it was mostly melted ice (water). We asked for a double but ended up with a double and single bed. Will not be going back.

    « Comfortable and friendly »

A lovely location, with some nice sea views - some first floor views have access to a patio. The room we had (52) had been redecorated since our last visit and was very comfortable - although the heating couldnt be controlled so had to keep windows open to keep cool. The dinner choice and quality was very good, and a bargain in the DBB package. Would certainly go again.

« Superb setting, faultless fillet steak but desperately needs modernising »

The reception staff were extremely friendly and helpful but the waiting staff need training in customer service. Room 54 was noisy as it was directly above the speakers in the dining room so from 0700 till late you get music! Once again functions appear to take priority over residents, is this a policy of Best Western? On Thursday evening we couldn't get into the bar and on Saturday we were told we had to leave by 12 noon! On out first night I had to query if the crab soup had crab in it as it was advertised as suitable for vegetarians?

« A Beefeaters visit with good Beef as was expected. »

The ambience of this hotel was a bit old fashioned. The food quite acceptable, the service was good, but the overall experience was a bit below average. We visited on a 'Beefeaters' event. It was a wonderful event for meeting people of all experiences, and John Roper was a wonderful speaker with scintillating repartee and an engaging manner, with a rather off putting microphone that worked when it wanted to. A good evening, but I do not think I would choose this hotel for dinner, except for this type of occasion.

« The recent attendance of a wake »

I attended a wake for a lady at this hotel on Wednesday and apart from the really good cup of coffee and biscuit the food was absolutely unacceptable, the so called chicken sandwiches were as dry as old nick, sausages not nice ,chips left a lot to be desired. If I had been the member of the family who had to pay the bill of £14-50 per head I'm sure there would have been something to say.It has put me off wanting to have a meal here in the future.Such a shame as the views are so lovely .

« Back to the seventies.... »

We booked at this hotel because of our good experience with Best Western hotels. Although the Livermead hotel is on a major road it was not easy to spot : the outside signposting is not obvious. The car park is perfect and so is the location right on a private beach. It takes 20 minutes to walk to the city and a bus station is nearby. We had expected a room upgrade as frequent Best Western travellers but we had to do with a clean, small bedroom and very small bathroom. However there was everything we needed. The WIFI is free but cumbersome to log in requiring daily new passwords and frequent loss of contact. The hotel has a nice lounge overlooking the bay : old fashioned with friendly young trainees and remarkably good coffee and shortbread. Breakfast was OK but fresh fruits instead of the canned variety would be an improvement. The table service by a friendly maître d'hotel, Charles, was extremely pleasant. As far as we could see this hotel is very popular with elderly and/or retired people of whom the staff takes good care. The price of food, drinks and room is moderate and after all, we had a pleasant stay in a slightly cramped room.

    « Weekend visit »

Very clean hotel with wonderful view across the bay, friendly staff just a shame the decoration of the rooms and public area is stuck in the 1970,bar snack good value for money, breakfast poor quality and cheap product, tinned fruit, toast came before cooked breakfast which was then cold as breakfast took another 10 mins to come.

« Just popped in for coffee »

Husband and I popped into the Livermead Cliff for coffee last week. We stood at the Reception desk and waited while three people in the Reception went about their business. The woman nearest to us just continued to write something in a book, one chap standing was chatting to another chap sitting down, none of them took a blind bit of notice of us, patiently waiting for someone to speak to us. In the end my husband had to speak to them first, and then they were less than forthcoming. Not even a "good morning, may I help you?" Not even an apology for not having noticed us (we were sure they had but they chose not to speak.) Indeed, they looked at us as if we shouldn't be there, simple as that. I felt like turning around and leaving but we pressed on ... husband asked if they served coffee? and we were told to go into the lounge and someone would come to us. Off to the lounge we went and sat on what can only best be described as grubby, old sofas, C1979. I know hotels are having a lean time of it: these huge places must be difficult to fill and perhaps there's little money left for things like new furniture once the staff have been paid and the laundry and food bills sorted, but really. The sofas and coffee tables are either in serried ranks or around the walls as in an old folks' home. A good spring clean, putting the sofas and tables in more amenable groupings, and adding some plants and flowers and giving the windows a clean would go a long way to making the lounge 100% better. Still no one came to attend to us and then we saw what looked to be a waiter in a corner of the room so we asked if we might have coffee? He said to go to the Bar to order it - it wasn't as if they were busy, there were only four other people in the whole of the lounge, why couldn't he come to us to take an order? - so I asked where the Bar was, and he motioned in the general direction. So I got up and walked to the Bar and he joined me there and took my order. I have to say he was pleasant and this made up just a little for the lack-lustre performance of the Reception staff or the décor. The coffee was fine, as were the shortbread biscuits which accompanied it. While there another couple arrived and they ordered some food. We'd not seen any lunch menu or bar snacks menu and no one mentioned them to us, either. Perhaps they don't wish to advertise the fact? Perhaps they simply don't want to be bothered with food at lunch time? Overall, not a good experience. This hotel needs to up its game considerably. It could be so nice, it's in an enviable position overlooking a small private beach. Dowdy décor can be forgiven if there's a welcoming smile and attentive staff. Thank goodness we were only having coffee and didn't need to stay longer than it took us the time in which to drink it. I truly don't like giving a poor review of one of our premier Bay hotels, but even giving you 2 stars out of 5 for a rating is really pushing it.

« Dance Weekend at the Livermead Cliff »

Spent a great weekend at the Livermead Cliff Hotel who stepped in at the last minute to rescue our dance event from cancelation after the sudden closure of our hotel. The staff were incredibly polite, friendly and helpful at all hours of the day and night, and we were unaware of any problems they may have had dealing with such a large group of dancers. Even the dance event organisers looked relaxed after settling in! Fabulous sea views from the rooms, including the dining room & ballroom, added to the overall ambience of the stay. Food was great and they catered well for food intolerances. Looking forward to returning next year.

« We visited as a male voice choir with supporters »

Arrived in two coaches and were allocated room keys as we alighted from the coach. Our room was spacious and clean with a king-size bed and lots of wardrobe and drawer space. A good sized bathroom with the luxury of a bath long enough to accommodate my outstretched long legs. Although a few colleagues had rooms overlooking the car-park we had views across the garden and beach to the harbour across the bay. The catering was of quite exceptional quality served by smiling staff and with plenty of choice even for me, a vegetarian. This is certainly a hotel which we would visit again.

    « Simply fabulous »

My son recently held his wedding at this hotel, and I have to say it was simply the best day ever, the wedding planner was on hand throughout to attend to simply everything, the service was impeccable, food was delicious, venue is stunning, staff are very well trained to be on hand but not seen... many guests stayed, and we all had a wonderful post wedding breakfast, if I could give this hotel 110% I would.

    « Outstanding »

Non resident, we had two consecutive Sunday Lunch 3 course meals and a mid week cream tea. Lovely hotel with great sea views.Food was great and customer service beyond any I have experienced. All staff exceptionally friendly and clearly enjoyed their workplace. They even gave me a surprise Birthday cake which was a delight and not arranged by my company. I would gladly recommend this spotless hotel/restaurant to anyone living or visiting the Torquay area.

    4
« Great for non residents too! »

This hotel is mid walk between Paignton and Torquay so is a favourite stop over/ resting point for us. We usually call for a drink (standard hotel prices) and admire the view from the lounge bar. On one visit we did have a baguette served with crisps and a dressed side salad. It was freshly prepared and tasty, not sure of value at £6.95 but it was needed and enjoyed.

    « Very Enjoyable Holiday »

My wife and I stayed for five nights in August during a coach holiday. The hotel was clean and well maintained and the food was very good. We had breakfast and dinner during our stay and enjoyed both. Cooked breakfasts are done to order, nothing standing under hot lights. We had paid extra for a room with a sea view and were initially disappointed that ours had part of the view blocked by a projecting wing of the building. We asked if the room could be changed and the reception staff acted very positively, but as the hotel was full we had to wait until the following day. The staff very efficiently moved our belongings the following morning when we were out on a trip. We were given room 55 which has a glorious view of the bay and a balcony shared with other rooms. As this is actually a flat roof over the lounge/bar there was no shortage of space and tables and chairs were provided. Ideal for an evening drink admiring the views. The room is spacious and comfortable, the only niggle was the shower temperature which was difficult to get right. The hotel is advertised as being on the seafront and it is. The rear boundary wall is the sea wall. The gardens at the rear are very pleasant with picnic benches. It is set just outside the centre but in easy walking distance. There is a bus stop outside the hotel for those less energetic or able. We didn't spend a lot of time in Torquay, just enough to realise how much it has changed since my childhood holidays there. Where have the seafront palm trees gone? Throughout our stay the staff were exceptional. Any hotel is about the staff and nothing was too much trouble. They were all cheerful and friendly and when we were asked on a questionnaire who stood out we could not single out anyone, they were all equally outstanding. Since we must have seen most, if not all, of the staff during our stay, this is exceptional. We had a trouble free and enjoyable stay and wouldn't hesitate to return.

    « late holiday »

Visiting this hotel for the first time was a great choice. We had a lovely room with a great sea view (except for the morning with the sea mist), all the staff were happy and cheerful with nothing to much trouble. The food was great with a lovely choice every evening, breakfasts cooked to order, again plenty of choice. this is a hotel we would recommend and hope to visit again in the future.

« Dance Weekend at the Livermead Cliff »

We recently ran a dance weekend at the Livermead Cliff. The staff were tremendously helpful and supportive throughout the weekend, as well as prior to the event. They went out of their way to help rescue our event following the closure of the original hotel we had booked in Torquay. Plus with excellent food and such a fabulous location, who could ask for more?! Feedback received has been tremendous, with a number of people saying that the event has been the best one yet. We are already looking forward to the next dance weekend we have booked at the Livermead Cliff.

    « Nice sea views »

Good location with helpful and super friendly staff. Hotel looking a bit tired inside but has a nice sea view and garden with private access to the beach. Breakfast was decent but charges extra for salmon. Room was way too small and not what we expected as we booked a twin room which looked spacious on the photos but turned out to be a double room with two single beds next to each other. The hotel held some event in the space below with guests making noise coming out into the garden space. |We complained and were offered to be moved but decided not to as we wanted a sea facing room and they promised the noise will be over by midnight. Internet speed is very bad but the rest was nice and we made most of the stay.

« Best Western Livermead Torquay »

We stayed for two nights. The hotel was clean and parking was easy. All the staff we met were friendly, polite and helpful from those in Reception, the bar and restaurant. This made for a very relaxed and pleasant stay. I would certainly recommend the hotel on the way the staff made their guests feel very welcome.

    « Mini break »

We've just returned from a 5 day mini break and having stayed here twice already this year, we've once again had an amazing stay. Our room (number 55) overlooked the private beach and didn't disappoint with its fantastic views overlooking Torquay seafront. Bed was really comfy and the room was clean and a nice size. Breakfasts were very good, as were the bar food and evening meals, all served with a smile. We had great service from all the very friendly staff throughout the hotel. Would highly recommend this hotel, we will be returning for sure.

« Hotel with lovely location and seaviews »

A fantastic stay in a lovely hotel, with beautful location and sea views. Spoilt by heat of radiator in the bathroom which you could not turn down, and boiling hot water in the taps. Noise in bedroom from over the bar and entertainment below not good on one of the evenings. If these problems were addressed , it would be a perfect stay.

please be very wary of this hotels expensive cancellation policy. Tired to cancel our new year break. Due to some extreme family circumstances. Sadly even 3 months ahead of arrival date. This hotel wanted £500 cancellation fee. Do not book by credit card. As you seem to miss this vital information. Just hope if they are this desperate for Customers. They are as good as they say they are offering.

    « A haven at a difficult time »

A few years ago I had to come to Torquay at short notice. My Father was taken seriously ill and was admitted to Torbay Hospital. I had to find somewhere to stay and found the Livermead quickly and without checking much about it. My Father was in hospital for about a week, at the end of which he sadly died. As you might imagine it was a most difficult time. However, one of my abiding memories was this hotel. It was my haven at the end of challenging days. It felt warm and safe and the staff were just magnificent. A few weeks ago I returned to Torquay and stayed there again. Obviously such changed circumstances. And I delighted to say that the hotel was as I remembered it. Located with an amazing view over Torbay. Fantastic facilities. great cooked breakfast. Yes it bought back memories, but oddly it bought back happy ones. A thank you to the management and the team.

« Grat location desperately needs updating »

What a great location this hotel is right on the sea shore, terribly let down by a total lack of investment. The hotel would make an ideal 1970's film set, not a problem if it was 1970's themed but it was just suffering from neglect. We booked a 3 night stay and it was not cheap but to add insult to injury we discovered on arrival it was a coaching hotel. There was no distinction between the guest on a budget coach tour and a full fee paying guest, this was most evident in the breakfast, it was a real budget affair with poor ingredients and minuscule portions, I did request 2 sausages and 2 eggs with my full English this was met with raised eyebrows !!! the coffee served at breakfast was without doubt the worst I have ever tasted. The staff were on the whole excellent and very professional.

« Worst Hotel Ever. Should be closed! »

On Bank Holiday weekend we decided to go to Torquay for a nice family weekend away. At least thats what we thought we'd have. Prior to arrival we requested the lowest floor available and a travel-cot as we have a young baby. We also requested a breakfast on Booking.com. Upon arrival we were demanded to pay the full rate of £142 whilst we were lumbered with luggage and had no where to put it whilst paying. We were given our key and was told where the room was... up 3 flights of stairs and the furthest down the corridor as possible. Out of breath after carrying the luggage and a baby, as it wasn't hardly pushchair friendly, we opened the door and there we had it. The most dated, dirtiest and dullest room ever, hair and crumbs all over the floor, dust all over the sides and in the vents, pubic hair in the bathroom, the bath panel was broken with sharp edges, towels had marks on and the cups had hair on them. The room had clearly not been cleaned from the previous guests. I went to reception to express my complaint as my fiance was having a panic attack due to the room being in the state it was. They sent a cleaner up and told us to wait in the lounge area. We waited an hour and went up to find that there was still dust everywhere. So another visit to reception with the dust visible on my hand and got told to wait in the lounge again. At this point i was fuming and was offered a free meal but declined it as we wanted to get out the place. We went to sleep later that night in a warm room with a mattress not suitable for 1 person let alone 2 and a baby. We left the next day and had no apology and no refund which was promised by the manager. When asked to speak to him we were told he's not in, even though we had seen him 10 minutes prior. After phoning we eventually got a 50% refund but was spoken to rudely by Peter the general manager who put the phone down on me when questioning why these problems occured. I strongly advise you to consider staying here.

« Rooms stuck in the distant past......... »

Stayed here for two nights in a standard room (whatever that means in Best Western terminology), what it meant in reality was a very tired looking room overlooking the car park. The avocado bathroom suite with the over bath shower completes the picture. The room was cramped and hot. Was awoken at 5.30 by the delivery vans using the main entrance, this must have disturbed everyone on the front of the building. On a positive note the staff were helpful and friendly and the breakfast was good. The dated lounge (complete with china cabinets) has large windows and a great view, there's also a new looking terrace leading from the restaurant. There's a jaunt along the seafront if you want to go to the town where there are more restaurants. A hotel in need of a serious upgrade.

    « Avoid, bad experience »

Great staff but hotel was terrible, the room (66) was small, dated, noisy and hot like a sauna, we struggled to sleep even after getting a fan from reception. Also the car park was full so had to double park. I wouldn't normally write a review but the room was £128 which is rip off, we moved to another hotel

    « Hotel »

The hotel was lovely and the staff were very polite on arrival and we had a room with a sea view. Only problem we had was that we were on the second floor and the room was very small and very hotl and noisy from the road. The food in the restaurant was excellent and my husband is a qualified chief and he said the steak was beautifully cooked

« Ok for last minute booking. »

A family crisis meant we needed to find a dog friendly room for one night over the bank holiday. Managed to get a room here as everywhere else was booked. Room was OK, mattress was a bit old and tired. Room was incredibly warm even with all radiators off and windows open, had to get fan from reception which helped. On the plus side, staff were great, very friendly and helpful. Nice garden outside to sit and have a drink, they brought out water for our dog. As we couldn't take dog into dining room, staff served us breakfast, which was very nice, in the lounge. All in all, hotel not bad, staff great.

« Dated but better than expected »

My wife and I stayed at the Livermead for three nights in August. We had taken my mother in law with us for a break and booked it without reading the reviews ! Having read the reviews, when we arrived we were a little anxious about what we were about to experience. My mother in laws single room was very pokey and dark with a bright pink bathroom suite, At our request , she was promptly provided with a larger and more airy room. Our room was a sea view room with avocado bathroom suite. It was clean , the sea view was great but hampered slightly by the misting in the double glazed window units. The bed mattress was old, saggy and uncomfortable. The worst thing was that the room was so hot. We had warm dry weather for the duration of our stay but we found that the whole room was heated to an uncomfortable temperature by the fact that the towel rail in the bathroom was permanently on. When I raised this with the staff , they were most apologetic and informed me that since it was an old building , some of the towel rails are connected to the hot water system rather than central heating and can't be turned off ! The breakfasts were excellent and we ate in the bar on a couple of evenings and the food was good. The staff were polite, helpful and very accommodating . In short, the hotel is old and very dated and in need of modernisation but our stay was better than we had been expecting.

« Superb Staff & Management. Stunning Views. Lovely Holiday Break. »

I read through the reviews and frankly approached my stay with some trepidation given some horrendous experiences elsewhere in the UK. True to my personal form my room had a four in its number and was overlooking the car park. This seems to be my fate as it happens so often here and abroad so much so I am resolved "the room is only a stopping off heads down place" especially at this hotel with so many places to visit and explore. Granted the facilities were not Mayfair 2017 but they all worked & it was ultra clean room, towels, facilities with hot water on demand. The bed was big and very comfortable and oodles yes oodles of wardrobe and storage space. Road Noise no problem even with windows open. In terms of the hotel outdoors offerings it has a nice large garden affording beautiful panoramic sea views , a little beach, and if you care to seek out many little secluded vantage points within the grounds where you can sit undisturbed and take in miles of sea and coastline. During my stay a wedding was held with the reception in the lovely very modern Riviera Suite overlooking the bay. This in no way caused any problems with noise or delays at the bar / main dining room. Staff wise The bar manager and his staff were brilliant and the tariff charges were very good. The dining room staff were equally excellent Raquel thank you in particular. The service lacked nothing Very Good Indeed despite having upwards of seventy to a hundred diners at one time. Ah!! the food was lovely, plentiful and very varied cannot recommend enough. The breakfast array of juices fruit cooked meats etc etc was huge with a cooked breakfast menu also. Evening Meals just brilliant. Thanks to all the chefs involved. Torquay Harbour is a short Number 12 bus ride away (bus stop outside hotel) this also covers Paignton & Brixham as a round robin. Take the steam train from Paignton and catch the River Dart ferry into Dartmouth highly recommended for around ten pounds inclusive. The Livermead Cliff Hotel has a great management staff also I must mention the General manager and all his staff Thank You for being ever helpful. The Livermead Cliff Hotel is a very honest hotel. It offers great warmth and comfort to it's guests. It offers great food and great service with stunning panoramic sea views. It is clean & well maintained. I will most certainly be back.

    « This is a warning »

I booked a weeks holiday in this hotel in June. I was surprised that I had to pay immediately where ion Germany Best Western I pay on the final day. Sadly due to my wife's ill health I had to cancel the holiday, but on asking I was told that my deposit was not refundable. This is a superb hotel but be warned. The hotel manager did give me 100,000 Best western reward points so this helped the stress I am suffering

« Our experience of the Livermead Cliff Hotel »

We had been looking for a Hotel that could accomodate a party of 70. The Livermead had everything we were looking for including a function room. The room allocated was large and airy and overlooking the bay. Staff were curteous and very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The shortbread biscuits brought with our drinks were beautiful. At breakfast you helped yourself to cereals etc.The main cooked breakfast was served by staff and was excellent. Overall our stay was perfect. We are also booked in for the New Year.

Three nights dinner bed and breakfast. Four over 80 two over 60, the staff were helpful from the start. Changed rooms so no steps/stairs involved for one couple, suit cases whisked off and delivered to our rooms. Dinner and breakfast always good, well presented and well delivered. Rooms are acceptable but only just, however, the view takes a bit of beating. It's outstanding. So, food is good, rooms not good, hotel generally ok, view outstanding and staff, well if ever staff were your main asset it's here. The staff are the friendliest and most hard working we've come across. Would we go back? Definitely.

Great accommodation with friendly and polite staff, food was perfect the breakfast had everything that you wished for , lots of fruit, 5 different fruit juices. « Friendly welcome and great service »

Although the hotel could do with some TLC and a spruce up, the service from the staff was impeccable from start to finish. Jana on reception was delightful and we were given a very nice spacious room overlooking the sea and across towards Torquay. A bit dated but clean and comfortable and would definitely stay here again. Great views, great outdoor terraces and great staff.

« Excellent service from Deepak! »

I live in Torbay and had time to spare on a warm sunny day so I decided to pop in to the Livermead Cliff Hotel for coffee as they have a terrace overlooking the sea. I thought £3.10 for a coffee was a little excessive but thought heyho, that's hotel prices? BUT I was wrong! I got a POT of coffee, enough for 3 (albeit smallish) cups and 2 large homemade shortbreads! (Ate half of one, took the rest home for me and hubby!) I sent the poor chap back for a serviette then when he brought that out I sent him back again for iced water!!! He was so obliging, he joked, with a smile "Are you sure there's nothing else??!" when he brought the water. And no, I'm not too lazy to go inside and ask, there are several steps up to the hotel and I use a walking stick due to mobility issues? So thank you Deepak, the service was much appreciated

the staff were pretty good but the room was old , out dated , thought I was at my great grans old house. bath broke and tatty. really think they should listen to these reviews because I cant spell it out any plainer than this , and im not the only one , because people were all saying what a old fashion place, the windows were all missted up due to the salt from the sea, but they cauldn't have been cleaned for six months at least? we would of had a lovely sea view, if we cauld see thourgh the windows. I would only go back if they made some changes and updated the old folks home. ont worth £195 a night

« Superb Location, very good staff, just needs updating a bit »

We booked here for one night, but ended up staying for 2 - really that tells you all you need to know but here is a proper review :) The location was the reason we stayed here, it is situated in the middle of some lovely beaches, 5 to each side which are perfect for taking pictures and skinny dipping. There is a lovely cove behind the hotel and a nice beach to the right, literally a minutes walk away. The staff were great, very helpful and accommodating. Even though there were things not to our liking, the place itself is perfect, and we cannot wait to go back, hopefully taking my parents next time :) We did only book 1 night but we ended staying for 2 this time around. There is some lovely restaurants a mile away to the right overlooking the beaches and sea and just before that is a big park and an old Abbey to visit, all on your doorstep. The downside: The amenities are dated and need bringing up to date - There is no Aircon and it was hot outside, around 26 degrees, and the room was about 50 degrees - we got a fan off the staff but it simply was not enough to cool the room properly. The shower/bathroom needs replacing, I have not seen a shower on hot & cold taps in a hotel like that before, it needs replacing with a proper shower unit that does not pull to the side all the time during a shower. The rooms themselves are in need of a lick of paint and a clean behind the radiators.

    « Tired Hotel »

The hotel is in a wonderful situation but is let down by its tired and dated decor. We stayed for 2 nights and booked a "Sea-view" room . The 1st night we had to go downstairs from reception to a very small room with a limited sea-view. It smelled mouldy and not fresh- very disappointing. The second night we talked to the person at the bar- namely Audrey and she was unhappy about the way we felt and kindly found us another room. It unfortunately faced the road but it was much bigger and smelled fresh. However the decor was greatly outdated with an avocado coloured bathroom suite and cracked bath panel. The room was nice and clean but I would personally not stay here again.

    « One night stopover. »

The hotel was booked by my company for a business trip, stayed for 1 night. The location is good for Torquay and Paignton and it located right on the sea front about a mile from the main centre of Torquay. First impressions was that the hotel was a little tatty and dated from the car park and this impression followed through to the reception and the room. I was given a car park view room and it's a good job the heatwave was over because even in moderate Summer temperatures, the room was very hot. Traffic noise could be heard through the poor double glazing. The room was small but did have a tv and coffee making facilities. The shower room was tiny and the pink tiles dated it further. The shower was ok with good toiletries. Their was 'entertainment' laid on but I avoided it and strolled into Torquay for dinner at the excellent Pierre bistro. On returning, I did think I had walked into an old folks home. The breakfast selection was 2 star and you had to pay extra for a cooked one I had Alpen and toast not much choice. The hotel was ok for one night but I would not consider it for longer stays,

It was to be honest a bit like an old folks home. The Restuarant standard was superb. Sllver Service Standard. The rooms were not so great, a bit old fashioned and the lift was from the history books( max 2 persons) It was certainly worth the fiver to get the luggage brought up. My relatives have been coming here for years and they like it. I'm over 70 and was one of the yougest and i didn't really like it. Having said that if it had stopped raining we might have got more out of our £500 stay for two nights.

« Nice dog friendly hotel with spacious rooms »

The hotel in in a good location and allows for a short stroll (approx. 10mins) to Torquay Marina, Paignton and Cockington. The hotel was very clean and spacious rooms. We were bed and breakfast and the morning breakfast was nice with plenty of choice. We chose the hotel as it has dog friendly rooms. Our room was located at the end of the hotel away from non dog friendly rooms which was good. The rooms were dated but very clean. There was no air con in the room and the weather can be very warm at nights. There is a wee beach at the back of the hotel Dog are not allowed in the bar or restaurant but there is a nice grass and decking area that overlooks the water where you can sit.

« Nice time in Torquay »

We stayed at the Rivermead Cliff Hotel for 3 nights at the beginning of July (before the English school holidays) and had a lovely time. The weather was lovely and this location was perfect with stunning views out over the bay. We travelled with our wee dog and the hotel were very accommodating, with a £10 charge per night in addition for having a pet. They have a lovely garden area where you could have drinks outside which was perfect for us. And one morning they even let us eat our breakfast outside (although this was not normal practise). There was a dog friendly beach right outside the hotel which was brilliant and your only a 10-15 minute walk from the main beach and harbour area where there are a number of places to eat and drink. The room we had, all be it fairly dated with regards to furnishings and decor, was nice big and bright and very clean. Including the bathroom which was almost spotless. Due to the super sunny weather the room did get a bit warm and there was no air conditioning but we did have freakishly warm weather! Breakfast was nice each morning with it being cooked to order it was nice, fresh and tasty. All in all would recommend this hotel mainly for its dog friendly location, clean room and nice breakfast! Staff were friendly.

« Lovely hotel in ideal location »

The hotel was very pleasant staff were very friendly and professional breakfast was very good had the bar snack and the menu was very good and quite good value .The bed was a bit soft but didn't affect my sleep. The only thing was our room had a large light which shone straight into our window which was a bit annoying but all in all an excellent place to stay

    « A Memorable and Relaxing Visit »

The staff went out of their way to ensure that we had an enjoyable and most relaxing stay. We truly felt that we were special and we cannot praise the service highly enough. The meals were delicious and the Wine List was good too. For a relaxing stay, this hotel is the tops!

    « great stay »

wonderful hotel, great food, beautiful views. staff excellent, only thing for me was the bed was far too soft for my liking, personal preference though and no reflection on the hotel. Room was good, shame i was at the front of the hotel with lots of traffic noise

    « Poor food »

My wife and I had a bar meal today Wednesday 24/5. What a disappointment. We both had the special which was Cod & Chips with peas and tartar sauce. The chips were mostly hard and the fish was barely cooked. The batter was stodgy. The chips had a large number of eyes in them. Had we have been asked during the meal if all was ok we would have told them no - but after the meal had been brought to us we saw no staff member. Poor service, lack of care and poor cooking standards. We were in Torquay for the day whilst on holiday in Brixham. As our local Best Western is excellent we thought we would be able to rely on the standard in Torquay. How wrong are we! Needless to say we will not be returning during this holiday or any other. Once bitten twice shy!!

    « Ideal for a spring break »

If you want luxury, this hotel is not for you. But we found this hotel quite adequate with a good breakfast. We ate in the bar each evening and the only complaint was too many chips. The location was excellent , right on the seafront and only a short walk from the railway station. Buses pass the hotel for the town centre, Painton and Brixham.

    « Weekend break »

Stayed at this hotel for three nights. The room size was not too bad but the bed was small & far too soft, dipped in the middle, the bedding however was clean & satisfactory. The bathroom looked quite new, but felt like a sauna, no way of adjusting the heat. It had a tiny sink to wash in & we could not fill the kettle up........had to fill the cups with water first, then transfer to the kettle. The Dining room staff were very welcoming & attentive, no complaints about the food as it was very good. The dining room itself could do with a bit of updating, get rid of the carpets, heavy flowery curtains & tablecloths would be quite an improvement. There is a bus stop over the road from the hotel & the buses run every 20 minutes. We purchase a £5 daily ticket, which you can hop on & off the bus, visiting different places during the day. If you walk to the harbour it could take you about 30 minutes, depending how fit you are.

« Outstanding Service Only Beaten by Great Food »

Took my 96 year old father in a wheelchair for Sunday Lunch. The team could not have been more helpful or supportive. The young lady running the restaurant was superb and the waiters she had working were doing their very best to ensure everyone received the best service. The food was awesome, compliments to the chef. Although 96 my father had cream of fennel soup with brown bread roll and butter, roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and vegetables with extra gravy and ice cream as well as a glass on pinot noir. Staff were attentive throughout.Great atmosphere, very comfortable seats. Could not get better.

« Rock and Roll delight at the Livermead Cliff Hotel. »

April 28/29/30/31 stayed at the Livermead Cliff Hotel for a Rock and Roll week end with Bristol Begbrook Rock and Roll club. I do a lot of these week ends all over the country and this was one of the best. Very nice clean and tidy single room. Good bathroom and shower, nice bed. Bit of a problem with the lift as it is an old antiquated building and may be a problem for the old and infirm, it is very small and tight, with an awkward double door to open, which have to be held while negotiating your case(s) and I found it quite a problem and I am in good condition fit and strong. The staff are very good and the service and food is excellent and plenty of it. One minor detail is that there is no tea or coffee with the evening dinner, don't know why and the wine is pricey. I was charged £20.50 for an ordinary bottle of wine which would cost about £3/5 in a supermarket, most places charge about 12/15£ for same and a friend was charged £4 for a bottle of water delivered to her room. I know my wine! There is a problem with seagulls on the roof quacking all night and early in the morning, but I sleep well so not too much of a problem for me. I'm sure they could good get rid of them if they tried, though, I know they do where I live. That including the overpriced drinks is why only 3points. Having said that, I would go again as it is a yearly event and several couples told me they have been going there for years. So that says plenty about the place. There is also a large car park and a lovely walk along the seafront into the town, bus stops right outside which claimed to run every ten minutes and they actually did. All in all a very good May bank holiday week end. Bed, breakfast and evening meal £200.00, plus live bands every night, good deal.

« Staff good, hotel fading »

We have stayed here several times, and have to say, the staff are excellent. What is not so good, however, is the visible deterioration in the fittings and decoration of the hotel. When we stayed here in March, we specifically asked for a 5' bed but were given a standard 4'6" double in the eaves of the hotel, with hardly room to turn around. This should not be marketed as a double room, and the 'view to the sea' was there, but you had to bend down to see it from under the eaves. This was sad, as the staff are doing their best, but there appears to be no evidence of money being spent on the hotel itself, and this is beginning to bring the hotel down. Basically, its starting to look tired, which is a disappointment, and will eventually have an impact on the business. I have put some photos on with this review to show what I mean as far as decoration. We also had a humorous yet disturbing note with one of the fire doors which opens on the left with a notice saying 'Push to the right'!! see photo. On the positive side, the food is very good, as is the service, and we had no complaints at all in this area.

    4
« Very good hotel, comfortable, excellent food and service, great pity about the bar prices. »

But if you want a drink be prepared to pay very high prices, £4.30 for a pint of beer, £7.00 for a glass of wine, and you would not believe £3.85 for a pint of lime and soda. The hotel is very good, clean and a little dated, resturant excellent with good menu and service.

    3
    « Cold food »

Just stopped for a few days ,staff very friendly ,room very comfortable ,but sadly let down by the food served !! We ordered from the bar menu my wife had an unappetising chicken ceaser salad, and I had a beef burger, had a job to cut it let alone chew it First morning breakfasts was good, second morning everything was cold ,

    « Wining and dining »

The food was excellent, especially fish and chips. The cheesey chips were good. The service was excellent. The hotel was clean and tidy and nothing was too much effort. All the staff went above and beyond.

    « HOT room »

Hotel has access to the sea and beach and an added bonus of being dog friendly. It's not really close to the town so if you are wanting to pop out for a drink there's only other hotels around. Food is good and staff are friendly. However room 46 is like a sauna! This is due to a boiler being behind one of the walls so you can't do anything about it nor can the staff as it is simply emitting heat and the wall is warm to the touch We flung the windows open to find that they are directly above the staff kitchen door where they have their cigarette breaks. We asked the hotel to move us but there were no rooms left. We were provided with a fan but it really was pointless. The manager did offer to move us to a sister hotel but this was in the evening which was far from practical as we had unpacked had a couple of drinks and had a dog in tow... oh and we were living the following day. Nice hotel, spectacular views from the bar shame about the heat

    4
    « Easter break »

Visited for 2days over easter. Staff very friendly and helpful. They gave us Creme egg at breakfast on easter Sunday, nice touch. The full English breakfast was not good on day 1, very runny poached egg, 1 sausage, 1 bacon and a mountain of beans! Second day I had bacon sandwich and it was lovely, tea, juice and cereals etc all available. The view from the patio is amazing and there is a small beach behind the hotel. Parking in demand but we managed on both days. Now ....this hotel decor must be so well maintained because it's all from 1985!! Swags, chandeliers and a plate of the queen mother...the lot. Be warned its £2.60 for a pint of squash. But clean, hot showers and high room with view. We enjoyed visiting torquay and Brixham.

    1
    « Lunch »

Don't have the chunky cheesy chips... they aren't chunky, the are standard oven chips and some burned with a distinct lack of cheese. Being a hotel I thought they might be of the triple cooked chip variety especially as £4.50 a portion!!! We tried to complain but no one was bothered from in the restaurant to on reception

    4
    « A lunch with a view »

We decided to visit this hotel as we knew the location was ideal. Even though it was April we were afforded with beautiful weather. We had the roast sirloin of beef sandwich with all the trimmings. We thought it was excellent value for money especially given the stunning views from the terrace.

    « Very good »

Really lovely place to stay, amazing views, the staff were friendly and helpful. Not far from the beach or local attractions. Definetly recommened to everyone. The area in general is a really nice place. I didnt want to leave as its such a beautiful place to be

    « Excellent hotel »

Room 52 is absolutely gorgeous ,beautiful sea view even a terrace with garden chairs to watch the evening sun setting, the food and staff have been more than excellent everyone has gone the extra mile to ensure our stay has been delightful. There was a wedding here on sat no disruption to guests but the photos they must have had taken looked spectacular. Bus stop right outside , into Torquay and also plenty of parking a great break we will be back

    « Never again »

I stayed here on a stop over in Devon en route to Dartmouth. I've never stayed anywhere so hot in my life. The room was unbearable. I opened all the windows to cool the room down. Unfortunately for me the road is very noisy. It didn't help with the council houses playing loud music until 0330. The rooms are very basic to say the least, the shower temperature kept changing on its own and the beds were really uncomfortable. For the price it has to be the most expensive worst value for money I've ever stayed at.

    « GREAT TIME »

We have just returned from our second visit this month with our second group from 2Ks travel. We were there from 7th to 11th Nov and again from 21st to 25th. Both of our groups had a wonderful time. We have been returning here now for 8 years and every year we have a fantastic time. The staff are always friendly & helpful. The food is excellent with a choice which is way above average in presentation and variety and silver service makes it even more special. Yes the hotel is a bit dated in places but its always comfortable and warm you can look beyond the decorations if you enjoy what the hotel offers. the location is perfect at any time of year and as we had some quite wild weather while we were there even that was spectacular with the sea coming right up to edge of the hotel garden. Entertainment was good and a great time was had by all. Already booked to go back next year Thanks again to Anthony and all of the staff.

    « Taking a break before Christmas »

We were greeted by very friendly staff and given the key to our room. On entering we were pleasantly surprised to see a large freshly decorated room with a superking size bed, table and 2 chairs and a settee. It was overlooking the sea and we were very pleased. The bathroom was also recently fitted and a good size. The only downside was the water pressure was very low and so it took a good while to run the bath. The staff were more than helpful and offered us another room, but as we were only there for 2 nights we declined. We can't thank the staff enough, they were both friendly and very helpful. The food was good and breakfast was delicious. We have stayed at this hotel several times, but we think it has got better.

« Short stay in Torquay »

Stayed at the Livermead Cliff Hotel for short break for my birthday. Hotel was excellent, located near the sea with beatiful views over Torbay. Only a short bus ride to center of Torquay, or if you a fit a leasurley stroll. Rooms a very good with huge double bed. It is only a short distance to Paington and a lot of other places to go.

    « Amazing customer service »

Husband booked a surprise weekend away here for me and the two dogs. The customer service particularly in the restaurant is amazing. Would like to mention three in particular, the young man who took our coffee back to our room who sounded as though English was his second language could not be more fabulous, he even offered to get the dogs extra food this morning. The older larger gent in the restaurant who brought us extra bread and the other older gentleman who served the veg. A brilliant stay marred only by no cold water in the shower. Fabulous staff well done xx

    « short break »

Made a last minute choice to this hotel and booked a room with a sea view. We were stunned on entering our room to see the view from the window - absolutely superb and so close to the sea. Service at the hotel was also truly excellent and it was obvious that staff prioritised service to their guests. Would certainly recommend and should we visit Torquay again we will surely stay at this hotel.

    « Just got back »

We just went for a long weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel was great if a little tired looking, but couldn't fault the staff or service. We are used to slightly more modern hotels with a few more amenities, but this didn't ruin our stay. It was a good location and just a nice 10 min walk to the town centre.

    1
    « Disgraceful »

I drove by this hotel several times in September 2016. They defaced a sea wall by painting their hotel name on it, ruining an otherwise beautiful scene of the English seaside. Shameful Best Western, shameful.

    « Service and friendliness »

One week ago I stayed at the Livermead Cliff Hotel for three nights with a group of 35 people. Our stay was excellent service could not have been better, WE were greeted when WE arrived at the coach , cases were taken to our rooms. The food 5 stars , fresh vegetables and a wonderful selection and choice , WE were all impressed, thankyou team. I have never seen such a happy group of people working together. I used to work for Trusthouse Forte in England , so I have alittle experience in hotel work . Continue the good work .??????

    « Slightly disappointed...! »

Our first visit to the Livermead Cliff was a little disappointing unfortunately! Our room was clean and well appointed but was spoilt by the size of the en-suite which was so small that it was impossible to dry oneself after a shower without returning to the bedroom! The lounge and dining area were let down by the very dated decor and shabby furniture. Wooden panelled and Artex ceilings, chintz curtains and pelmets were fashionable when we were wearing flares and tank tops! Ho wever, the Hotel did redeem itself by the quality of the food which was first class whilst he waiting staff were polite, efficient and attentive. Overall, some investment needs to be made to bring the Hotel up to acceptable standards, decor wise and provide a comfortable modern relaxing area where one wants to spend time. If this is done coupled with the superb position of the Hotel on the waterside,it could become one of the best hotels in Torquay

    3
« Big room, good breakfast! »

A decent place all around. Our room was comfortable and large, the bar staff were friendly for our evening drink and the breakfast was quite nice. Nothing fancy about the place, but a good reliable choice for the budget-minded. Nice view!

« Much needed September break. »

Have just spent an enjoyable week at this hotel, one of three family run hotels in the same area although this one is right on the waters edge with spectacular views over Torbay and great for sunrise watching. There is no denying that a lot of the furnishing and bedrooms are a bit tired and need attention ,however the staff and food more than make up for this. The hotel seems to have a lot of regulars who return frequently so they are obviously doing things right.

    « Amazing Views. »

The location of this hotel is ideal approximately a 20 minute stroll to Torquay marina with a frequent bus service for those who don't want to walk! We had a sea view room which was very pleasant although on the small side. The decor of both the room and the whole hotel needs updating as it is rather tired. The mattress was too soft and I rolled into the middle - can't have a row in this bed!! The tables in the restaurant are far too close together. Breakfast was adequate if you have a small appetite. All the waiters and Bar staff were friendly, pleasant and efficient. Check in and out was efficient. Would stay again as long as we had a sea view room.

« Doesnt deserve any stars 'WORST WESTERN" for me »

So disappointing room wasn't even dusted stains on pillow cases toilet not flushed stains on walls grubby bathroom suite didn't even match paid over £300 for 2 nights breakfast appeared to made us ill on first morning. 'Worst Western' if I am honest. Wrote to customers services who felt a £50 gift voucher was suitable compensation. They said 'it was a franchise' - so basically not their problem i guess. Manager of hotel refunded a £40 overcharge as his gesture yet 'IT WAS AN ADDITIONAL HASSLE AS IT WAS MONIES WE WERE CHARGED TWICE!' The hotel rooms did not resemble any of pics in BesternBest Western Brochure or pics on web

« Tired and dated needs a makeover »

The room was stuffy and hot no air conditioning and you could not cool the room even with windows open There were no fans available. The shower did not work so had to have a bath. The Internet was absolutely useless. Toilet blocked up and required multiple flushing to clear. The room was very dated and not that clean. The hotel is on a main road and noisy. The lift was ancient and was not working both times I tried it. The view was reasonable but hardly worth staying for. Full of very old customers that this caters for. The staff were pleasant but . I would not recommend this hotel.

    2
« totally unsuitable for business travellers »

I arrived mid evening and was put in what felt like the last room in the hotel, a tiny single in the furthest corner of the annex, without a sea view, obviously. The room had no aircon or fan, so I had to open the window to get some air as the room smelt stale; which meant I had traffic noise all night, including motorbikes revving up outside. The bed felt like trying to sleep on a surfboard, the bathroom had a mixture of white and avocado fittings and tiles which I last saw in the 1970's. The shower was odd, fixed at a strange angle and as the water flow was low with OK pressure it was a spray rather than a shower. Breakfast does not start until 7:30am, which meant I could not eat the breakfast I had paid for as I needed to be out for work at that time. Worst of all, the staff seemed to have the weight of the world on their shoulders and were uninterested in guests.

    3
« Very tired hotel but clean and friendly »

Having read the previous reviews I wasn't looking forward to staying at the Livermead Cliff. Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised. The reception staff are efficient and welcoming. Our room was dated and tired but spotlessly clean, it faced out towards the sea so the view was amazing. The en-suite shower room was tiny but was spotlessly clean. Breakfast was okay, not amazing but okay. The staff make this hotel, a real credit to establishment.

    2
    « Dated and tired... »

Stayed here for one night. Staff were friendly but the hotel is very dated. In my room half the light bulbs didn't work and the decor was a bit of an 80s throwback. If the owners invested in the building and bought it up to the standard of the staff it'd be a decent place to stay.

    « Nice Break »

On arrival, the car park was almost full and I thought it was going to be an issue on days out getting back in, however this wasn't the case and for the following couple of days there was always plenty of space. Nothing to worry about. Reception very helpful and offered help with luggage if required. Had a family room No 6 which was down a few stairs and I did wonder where I would end up. Having gone up steps to the hotel entrance, had to go down to get on the ground floor. Room (which was a good size, with two singles and a double) overlooked the lawn, and beyond the sea, shame there was a hedge, I'm greedy. The downside, however, was that on the lawn, there are large orange lights illuminating the hotel, which is understandable as it is on a cliff and is seen out to sea, but the curtains aren't long enough (in my view) and if it bothers anyone, then the light still shines beneath the curtains. Bathroom was well equipped and a good size. Had issues with the wifi, but when given the right information it was much better, but three of us couldn't connect after about 9pm. Must say, didn't bother after that, so didn't know if anything could have been sorted. There was a wide range of ages, fortunately, as I had a four year old and 15 year old grandson. Breakfast choice was very good. Only had the continental at £7.50, if a cooked was also wanted then it would have been £13.50! Did think £6.50 for a medium glass of wine was a bit steep, but never mind, needn't have had it. Last time I visited Torquay was 49 years ago on honeymoon, staying at the then San Remo Hotel in Belgrave Road. I believe this is now The Rainbow. However, cannot remember anything of the area at all. We went on the ferris wheel which was good and there is a good selection of restaurants in the main town. The receptionists were very helpful overall and I would visit again.

« What an amazing Hotel to stay in »

What an amazing team, Mrs Rew, it was really a pleasure you taking the time to stop to talk to your guests also making us feel welcome, we really appreciate this so much. The Best Western Livermead Cliff Hotel is a unique place to stay when on vocation, the entire staff are so humble and really polite, by taking their time to acknowledge their guests, meeting and greeting them and smiles all the time which really makes the difference in the atmosphere. Anthony, Tom, Peter and the rest of management team also staff were soo accommodating to my son, as it was his 19th birthday on the 1st of September, that morning, the management team and staff came out of the kitchen with my sons cake singing happy birthday to him, this was so special which really made my sons day. My young adults are not big eaters, but the food is amazing here, as they really put away some meals in the 3 days that we stayed at the hotel, so compliments to the chef. The hotel is situated in a beautiful area, with lots of ground overlooking the beach, here guest are welcome to sit in the quiet garden area or in the restaurant to socialize with each other or to just reflect on the day. The rooms we stayed in were much smaller to the ones previous year, but the main thing is they are really comfortable and you know you are away from home relaxing. Anthony, you were amazing remembering the drinks order we had from the previous night, had I been on your team, I would of get the order mixed up long time, fair play to you for remembering. My young people are so impressed about the hotel, that they keep asking what were rating of it, when I asked them to look it up, they were amazed to know that they were treated with the utmost respect from management, staff and also guests attending the Best Western Livermead Cliff Hotel, therefor saying that it should really have a higher rating, we also think the same too. it takes 9 different people to create a team and I must say, Anthony and the entire management, that you all have that unique team, also well done to you all for making your guests stay memorable, I know there are going to be great changes in the future, and already my friends can't wait to visit the next time we come over Best of Luck to all the management staff and the entire team at the Best Western Livermead Cliff Hotel. Kind regards Mary and family

« Decor lets it down »

The staff are this hotel are fantastic and it is cleaned to a very high standard, however the décor is very dated. It really needs bringing up to date and especially in the lounge area where the settees are looking very tatty and discoloured. Also the double glazing needs replacing as the windows are wet and stained on the inside of the glass and you can't get to it to clean them so having a sea view room is a bit pointless as you can't see very clearly. Saying all that, the location is excellent and the cleanliness and staff make up for what's lacking. Would be an excellent hotel if modernized.

    5
    « Great setting - excellent food »

This hotel has a great setting with excellent seascape views across the bay. Service is exemplary and the food of a very high standard. The lift is small and some bedroom space can be compact but the excellent service and views more than offset this. We have stayed twice and plan to stay again - notably many other guests are regular visitors.

« Not all bad but read on »

We stayed at the Livermead cliff BW hotel over August bank holiday weekend. We had booked a room with a sea view but when we arrived we were allocated a room on t4 he ground floor. This was smaller than we expected and the sea view was marred by the small window. The access to the bathroom was cramped and two chairs could not be placed side to side by the window. The clock radio did not work and neither did the replacement offered. The hotel staff were friendly but the impression was that this isn't the best BW can offer and I've stayed in quite a few both in the UK and overseas. If we'd had a bigger room I'd give a 5 but the issues we had make this a 4.

The hotel is very dated ! Our room was in the basement very small and very dated could of done with a coat of paint at least ! Also so hot no air conditioning ! Bathroom was tiny The towels were so thin you could almost see through them ! to and the room was dusty not cleaned properly !!! Nothing like on there web sight ! Not worth £125 a night . Final straw came following morning at breakfast waiter came with our toast and went to butter it to find it was mouldy !!!! Complained to the waiter he apologised then the head waitress sent him to check rest of the bread by then we had had enough so didn't even bother to stop for breakfast today ! Best thing is on the main entrance states they have a 5 rating for food hygiene !!!!!! Can't fault the staff they were very polite ! We just wanted to get out of there so left before 6am this morning ! Ruined our weekend !! Would not recommend it to anybody ! Very over priced for what you get ! I stop in hotels all the time with work and I must say this is one of the worst I have stopped in this was pleasure not work though !!!

    « a disappointing bank holiday stay »

we are 'veteran' tesco and best western weekenders. this was a disappointing break and our worst hotel experience by a considerable margin. The staff are very helpful and friendly and the hotel location is excellent, however our room was small, hot and because it faced the busy main road and the hotel car park we had a no win trade off between noise or heat. Stairs to the room are steep and I found them difficult to negotiate even with only a smallish sized case. A wedding on the saturday led to noise in the carpark until 01:00. We were pleased to return home - a disappointing experience.

Breakfast items on menu and not available. I ordered smoked Haddock and Poached eggs on the first day which were not available, promised the next day, same excuse and promised the third day and guess what not available finally the last day they were. 1 shower gel and shampoo for two people and this happened every day, I had to go to reception and ask for more. decor tied and room cleaning was poor cob webs in wardrobe not what you expect at 3120 per night for B&B Location left a long walk into Torquay

    « One night stay »

Me and a work colleague stayed the night and overall - not too bad. They accommodated last minute when it seemed most places were busy. The room itself was quite outdated (decor and beds) but enough. My biggest gripe would be the price and breakfast. For 1 night we paid £124 which for me is quite excessive for what they offer but not 100% as I'm not from the area. With breakfast, it was a buffet style continental with the option to order cooked items from a set menu. I ordered poached eggs on toast and all I can describe it as is 2 well overdone eggs on 1 slice of bread, crusts cut off and then cut again. It was tiny - however the fruit and cereal sorted me out. My main complaint is that the patio doors were open and there was a lovely seating area outside to which myself and my colleague wanted to sit out and enjoy breakfast overlooking the sea but were told no as 'they wouldn't serve food outside'. Fair enough if that's your policy, but what's the point in having an outside area - WITH THE DOORS OPEN if you won't serve. All in all an OK experience but would probably try and book elsewhere if I had the time and choice.

Delightful staff, polite, welcoming and helpful...but the hotel is dated...rooms sweltering, no air and no air conditioning. Family room booked for 3 but only 2 towels! Bar and food pricey. Expensive for want we got. does have a fabulous view over the sea from the bar and terrace.

We have stayed at the Livermead Cliff Hotel many times enjoyed everyone. Hotel location, rooms, staff and food excellent. Especially if you have a dietary problem. Plenty of car park spaces, bus stop and train station close by.

A last minute emergency booking so we used it on the basis of past experience with Best Western. Architecturally not that interesting. However, overall we found it excellent - good sized room, very helpful staff and good food!

« Warm sunny days by the seaside »

The Livermead Cliff Hotel has an old worldly charm about it. It is a comfortable and friendly place to visit. The staff are very helpful and the menu extensive and varied, also very reasonably priced.the dinning room is very pleasant with great views of the coast and a large area outside to sit and enjoy the views.

    « Shabby and over-priced »

POSITIVES: Friendly staff Good free car parking Good breakfast NEGATIVES: Shabby hotel which desperately needs a make-over. No facilities what so ever - very basic and happened to be the most expensive hotel we stayed in during our tour of the South West. Very weak shower, either too hot or too cold, temperature cartridge needs replacing. Wi-fi very hit and miss. Bed mattress 6 inches wider than the bed it sits on, so the mattress overhangs. Being a small double bed, 2 people sleeping in it slope and roll down the sides. For this reason my wife had a very bad night's sleep, for which the hotel promised to refund us £30. Don't count on us ever returning. Sorry!

    « Complete disappointment »

We booked this hotel for our wedding anniversary. We booked a double room with a Seaview thinking that it would be lovely to wake up seeing the sea. We booked in and paid on arrival and went to our room. Well , more like a broom cupboard!!!!! The room was so small and the en suite was like it had been put in a cupboard. My husband couldn't even stand at the mirror and shut the door!!! We went to reception and voiced our opinions and were told that we could have a family room for one night but not for the two we had booked. We asked for a refund, which we were given but that left us stranded with no accommodation for the weekend at 7pm!!! The room advertised was large and not the one in the description. I thought that as it was a Best Western hotel it would be good but I won't be booking this hotel ever again.

    « Over Priced »

Stayed here with my family as it was the only place with availability at what seemed a reasonable price. We found out why. You will get better quality rooms in budget hotels and small B&B's for lower prices. The bed was awful and I do not expect to have to fiddle with the cold and hot taps for ten minutes before I can get in the shower. Whilst the breakfast menu was good and varied they couldn't even mange to cook scrambled eggs without curdling them. It's shame as the hotel has a good location on the seafront with a great view over the bay from the gardens and some of the rooms if you are lucky. Of course our rooms were at the front of the hotel over looking the busy main road!

    « Pleasant enough »

Stayed for one night where I had a pleasant stay. Welcome staff were very helpful and the evening meal was OK - however the evening entertainment started as I was eating and was quite off putting and loud. Breakfast was nice, but portions were tiny. Probably wouldn't stay here again if i visited the town.

« Most disappointing experience I've ever had »

In my 25+ years of travel for work and pleasure, I have never had to complain about a hotel, nor about a hotel manager, but I cannot state enough how disappointed I am, not only in my actual experience at the hotel, but in how my complaint has been handled by the general manager. I have travelled all across the UK (Brighton, Eastbourne, Oxford, Manchester, Birmingham, Cornwall, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Warwick, Bristol, Belfast) etc. as well as India, Thailand and the USA, and have NEVER had reason to complain to a hotel-until now. I run my own small business in the UK and pride myself on excellent customer service; I am always honest with my clients and I care about them. That cannot be said about the management team at the Livermead Cliff Hotel, and if I were Best Western, I'd strip them of their membership. (Apologies if this is garbled-I've already written a lengthy complaint letter to the owners of Rew Hotels-and haven't received a response), as well as having replied to the general manager's email to me...I'm just exhausted from it all. I raised my complain to the manager on the day of departure (Monday 18th July) and also complained to Best Western Head Office, and decided I'd give them time to resolve my complaint before posting my review on Tripadvisor. My complaint has not been resolved to my satisfaction, and so here is my review: My complaint is three-fold: false promises, shower problems, and accessibility issues. I booked a four night stay at the Livermead Cliff Hotel, for myself and my 74-year old mother, who was coming to visit from Canada. She had never been to Devon (though we have been to Cornwall) and we were both looking forward to a short break out of London, and by the sea. To start with, when I was enquiring about the hotel's availability for our July trip, I specifically asked if they have soya milk, as I am dairy free. The receptionist I spoke with said that they would get some in for me, not a problem. Believe it or not, this was a deciding factor for me as to whether I should book with them or not, because I *love* my AM coffee as well as a coffee with dinner, and whilst it might sound trivial to some, it was important that I knew beforehand whether I'd be able to have coffee (with soya milk). So, having discussed my mother's needs (an accessible room) with the receptionist, I went ahead and booked two rooms. Incidentally, I had also arranged for a hire mobility scooter with a local company, as my mother has difficulty walking. So we arrived at the hotel on a Thursday, had dinner in the hotel restaurant (which neither of us particularly enjoyed) and it was either that evening, or the following morning at breakfast (I honestly can't remember now) that I asked for coffee with soya milk-the waiter replied by saying they don't have any soya milk. I got up from the table, leaving my mother sitting there, and walked over to the reception desk which was not far from the restaurant, and explained that when I booked my room I was told that you would get some soya milk in for me; the receptionist turned to where the manager was sitting (in his cubby that is partially visible to guests) and he shrugged his shoulder. The receptionist said she would look into it for me, so I went back to the table. Nobody came back to me with any info, and so I ordered a mint tea. This is only the beginning (there is a further, and more important complaint described below). But re-the soya milk, on the day of departure, I had asked to speak to the manager to raise my complaints him, and when I explained that there was no soya milk for me, he said that as soon as he realised the hotel didn't have any, he personally went out and bought 3 cartons of it. At the time (on 18th July) I believed him, as I had no reason not to (even though nobody in my 4-day stay let me know that they got some in for me). Hence the reason my mother and I ate out of the hotel for our 3 remaining breakfasts (even though we paid for B & B). However, I also raised all of my complaints with the Best Western Head Office, and they must have liaised with the general manager, because he emailed me with a response and in his email he claimed that after I informed them that there was no soya milk, his head chef ordered soya milk and that it was delivered on the day. Clearly, he is lying because it is unlikely that *he* personally ran out and bought 3 cartons of soya milk, *and* his head chef ordered soya milk. Which is it? When he replied to my complaint via email on 23rd, he clearly forgot what he had told me on 18th (that *he* had run out to get me some soya milk). Which is it? Nevertheless, for the number of times my mother and I passed by reception in our 4 night stay, NOT ONCE did any of their staff say ?hey, Ms.______we have some soya milk for you?. And I assure you, they saw us coming and going because we took the lift (not many people do) and we were slow to come in and out as my mother doesn't walk very quickly. There was ample opportunity for any of them to say we've got your soya milk. My other minor complaint about my one and only breakfast there was that when I asked for scrambled eggs without any milk or butter, I was told advised that the eggs were already made and I couldn't have scrambled eggs, I could only have fried eggs. I didn't want fried eggs and so I had 2 pieces of toast. Very nutritious...not. Now onto the matter of my shower: on my first night I took a shower and not only was I unable to regulate the temperature (I took a scalding hot shower that morning), but the water pressure was not sufficient to wash hair of my length. I reported this to the receptionist the following AM and was advised that Maintenance would look at the shower and fix it. I went out with my mother for the day and upon returning, was advised that Maintenance looked at it and fixed it. I then discovered that it was one of the waiters who looked at it. I tested it out as soon as I got back to see if it was fixed and I was having the same problem again....scalding or freezing, and weak press. The waiter came up again, after I returned. I showed him what the problem is and he proceeded to get the Deputy Manager (who I personally would not hire to work for *my* company) to look at it. He came to my room and as he was playing with my shower trying to adjust the temperature, I said ?the temperature is either scalding hot or freezing?-he said ?welcome to the UK?, probably presuming I was some tourist, because despite the fact I've been living in the UK for 25 years, I have a Canadian accent. I said to him "I'm sorry, but this is *not* how water temperature for a shower should be in the UK, nor have I ever had such problems in a UK hotel". His attitude was so cocky and arrogant and quite dismissive. Moreover, as he proceeded to play with the shower, he then proceeded to BREAK OFF the actual dial that you would use to adjust the temperature! It was at that point he offered to move my room; I explained that I would rather not have to move, and asked how soon the maintenance guy could fix it; I also asked what rooms did he have available (should it come to me moving). He replied that he would have to go down to the reception desk and find out what the availability was from the girls. He never came back to me. I saw him later that evening and he advised that maintenance would not be able to get spare parts till the following day. At this time it was the receptionist who offered to let me use another room for my shower. I was *not* advised that there was another room for me to move to. Not once. (this is relevant because the manager claims that they did offer to move me and that I declined). This is simply untrue. The room that I was given to use purely for my shower was room 44, and it was clearly being used as a storage room; it was not fit for a guest-the bed had been taken apart and on its side and it was clear that nobody was using it (though in the manager's email to me in response to my complaint to head office, he suggests they took the room apart so that I could use the shower...really? He also suggested that the room was close to my room.....again...really??? I had to parade though the hotel with a towel on my head and my robe to take a shower for the remainder of my stay because despite the maintenance man finally replacing the dial (on Sat-we arrived on Thurs)-it was still extremely difficult to regulate the temperature and the water pressure was less than adequate for the UK-in 2016. I cannot understand how they can have two rooms within the same hotel, with such different water pressure. It's obviously *not* how things are in the UK, as the deputy manager so smuggly stated. And so when I met with the manager on the day of my departure, and told him of my complaints, only *after* mentioning to him that I would inform Visa as I wasn't prepared to pay for the full stay (despite the fact that they take *full* payment upon check-in; it's quite clear why....he suggested that he would take a look at my total bill and see what he could do. At the very least, I felt that I was entitled to one night's reduction off my total bill, in light of the fact I had to use a different room for my shower, and given that both my mother and I paid for B*B but only had breakfast in the hotel one of the four mornings. And so he returned offering to reimburse me £50 to go towards the cost of the mobility scooter. The scooter is yet another issue altogether but I'm too tired to type this all out-I damaged the scooter driving it out of the hotel because the positioning of their ramp meant that there was a very sharp corner to turn. And so I paid the scooter company an additional £50 to cover the damage and this is what the manager was prepared to refund me (it must have been an acknowledgment of the ridiculous position of their ramp though in his email to me wrote: "I can assure you the ramp has been in this location for many years and full risk assessments are carried out on numerous periods and ongoing". On the Friday night there happened to be a Prom at the hotel, so when we arrived back at the hotel, the security team who were manning the doors for the Prom that evening, offered (without me even asking) to shift the ramp over slightly so that it was directly in front of the door-so that instead of me driving the scooter up the ramp and having to turn a sharp corner, and risking scratching the scooter as I did on my way out that morning, I was able to drive it up the ramp and right through the front door of the hotel without damaging anything. Not once did any of the hotel staff offer to do that for us on any other day. So when he offered to pay for the scooter damage I politely turned his offer down, as he made no offer of compensation for the inconvenience of my shower problem, nor of the fact they never did notify me that they eventually got some soya milk in. He had also said that he would speak to his team about the shower because he was under the impression that it was fixed. It was quote obvious to me that they all know that they provide a sub standard service but really don't care. It also became clear to me that they lie to protect themselves; just to repeat the point: they never came back to me to tell me what room was available to move me to, yet in his email reply to me he says: "after speaking to all departments I have been advised by my reception team that once we were aware of the problems with the shower you were offered an alternative room but opted to use a room close to your room for showering". This is a blatant lie. From my conversation with Head Office, it became clear to me that this hotel is a franchise of Best Western (BW) and pays BW for the privilege of using their name, logo, signage, etc. BW seemed more interested in the fact that they get paid by these franchises than by the fact that a guest had a legitimate complaint and that the hotel might be abusing their name and providing a sub standard service. And so the manager ends his reply to my complaint to head office with an offer of 12,000 Best Western Reward Points to have put on a personal card for me. My reaction? Thanks, but no thanks. I can think of a dozen other hotels I'd rather stay at all over the UK. In summary: 1. The hotel assured me they'd have soya milk and didn't. 2. I had to use a shower in another room for 3/4 of my days. 3. The manager has a tendency to be economical with the truth. The positives (yes, I can always find a positive in every situation): my room had a lovely sea view, and most of the receptionists were pleasant. The staff member who really stood out as far as providing above average customer service was Rodrigo. He was lovely, offered me a pitcher of ice water to take to my room (the temperature was 30C when we were in Devon and my room was an oven given it was sea view facing) and was just very helpful, very smiley, and he always seemed happy to help. As for the manager and deputy manager, I think they need some re-training in customer service, honesty and integrity. Would I EVER stay at this hotel again? Not in a million years. I've travelled to Cornwall numerous times and my experiences in the three hotels I've stayed at in Cornwall far exceed the standard provided at this hotel. They are not chains, which might say something, and they also cater for all dietary needs, and guess what? They actually had soya milk at every meal. Believe it or not, it *is* the little things like that, that make a trip enjoyable, but as for the bigger things like *showers*-there is really no excuse for a hotel guest to have to take a freezing cold shower or a scalding hot shower, and not be able to regulate it properly. Moreover, a manager that lies about stuff just to protect his own, and that of his hotel's reputation, is not the sort of manager I want to have any dealings with-ever.

« Great holiday, great staff, great food »

We've just come back from spending another week, having dinner bed and breakfast, at the Livermead Cliff Hotel. This was our sixth visit and we weren't disappointed as, yet again, the food was excellent and the staff always do all they can to ensure guests enjoy their stay no matter how long that may be. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

« Showing its age but great situation »

This hotel is right on the beach towards the west from Torquay. It has good parking, a pleasant sitting area for drinks and a variety of rooms depending on budget. It is rather old fashioned in terms of furnishings and overall ambiance. The staff are excellent and our beach view room was airy and pleasant. The bar food was good value whereas the restaurant seems rather overpriced.

    « Rooms with a view »

Excellent position in Torquay seafront. Some first floor rooms have a shared terrace overlooking the sea, offering great views of yachts and boats. Room can get very warm due to the sun, but a fan can be provided. Ongoing refurbishment means some tired decor will be soon replaced, though the public rooms are excellent. There was entertainment most evenings. On the occasions where there are functions, such as a prom or wedding, parking spaces can be limited for guests.Very helpful staff who work hard to provide attentive service for guests.

    « Great location »

Can't fault the location of this hotel and the views. I do feel the décor of the hotel is quite dated, but all is very clean to more than make up for that. Very lovely stroll along the promenade to the town and back, absolutely gorgeous views on the terrace to more than make up for the décor inside. Bed extremely comfortable, slept like a baby and woke up to an amazingly powerful shower. Will definitely return, thank you.

« Great location average buffet »

I have attended this hotel twice within the last few weeks, once for a conference and the other for a 50th birthday. My first visit was an important engagement with buffet and refreshments, the second for a 50th birthday bash. Upon my arrival to the birthday party I asked the chef if the buffet was anything like the last I had sampled a few weeks before. I must admit I did mention Iceland frozen party food, the chef was not amused. But to my surprise the food did consist of frozen Iceland type party food, chicken strips, potato wedges and quiche. I must admit the sandwiches were good with wholesome fillings but again not quality cuisine for the cost of the expensive hire and drinks price for the venue. The bar prices were shocking and for the amount of guests the bar staff did not cope for the first 40 minutes. A hotel that deals with buffets, cuisine and guest on a daily basis should have it's act together..

    « Good and poor »

Well situated hotel with ample car parking and convenient bus stops for getting into town, Paignton and beyond The room we had was poor for the amount charged and it just about had a sea view if you looked over the hedge. The curtains did not cover the whole of the window properly and the glare from the outside floodlights came in No point in asking for another room as the hotel was full Breakfast was very good and cooked to order and the evening meal was excellent and could not be faulted The outside patio needed a good sweep and weeding Pity about the live music on Friday night -in our opinion it was awful especially as we wanted a quiet drink after a hectic day Also found the reception staff unhelpful and was surprised to be asked for payment when checking in and on checking out there was no questions asked about the stay and we were given wrong information on directions to Dartmouth - the ferry we were told to get finished operating 2 years ago and we wasted our time going into town

    « Disappointing »

There are many positives in this hotel, however our room was not one of them!!! On arrival we were checked in and given our key - we took the lift! a relic of a bygone era. you entered then pulled a sliding grill across which hadn't been cleaned this decade by the look of it. There was also a very strange smell and a filthy carpet. As the lift went up you passed brick walls. Not a good first impression. I had phoned the hotel two months prior to our visit after checking on trip adviser. I asked if it was possible to have an upgrade. They said all the rooms were allocated. I'm afraid that our room was more of a cupboard. The bathroom was terrible and it was impossible to walk straight into it without closing the door first. It was so narrow my husband found it impossible to sit on the toilet! The resident seagulls provided a continuous chorus and lived above the skylight, occasionally they dive bombed it which was a little disconcerting. The room wasn't clean the carpet under the "dressing table" (a piece of wood with one drawer) was dirty but i suspect the cleaner was unable to maneuver a vacuum cleaner in the confined space. No room to get around the end of the bed you had to do it sideways!! for anybody large it would have been impossible. Obviously we asked to change rooms but were told there was nothing available. We were a large party of twenty five who had travelled a long way. Having said that most of the other rooms were ok. Only four were bad, the rest had large family rooms with bathrooms as large as our room and we all paid the same price.. The service was good, the staff were very friendly (apart from reception) the food was very good and although there were a lot of us we were served quickly. Gorgeous views out over the sea and a pleasant walk into Torquay. The decor is a little dated. Entertainment on the Friday evening was good, Free wifi is only very intermittent if you need to use it I suggest you pay. The final insult was when we were checking out and they tried to charge us for an extra night that we hadn't had. When we explained this, the receptionist almost called us liars. Would I stay here again NO!! If you re unfortunate enough to be allocated room 66 you wont fit your clothes in the wardrobe as it wasn't big enough to hang a coat hanger in sideways! No bedside cabinet on one side just a wooden shelf and one drawer in the dressing table. See photos.

    « Nice break »

This hotel is very good for food and the staff are very attentive and will do anything to help. The position is excellent if you have bus passes do not forget them with buses right outside the door into Torquay. The minuses are in room 21 the beds are not long enough for someone who is nearly 6ft tall, and the Internet is weak.

« In need of care. »

Placed almost on the beach/cliff the hotel has a lovely view overlooking the Tor Bay. But many of the rooms are worn and bathrooms do not work properly. And why is it that when one pay hundreds of pounds for a single room one get a crappy little room with basin beside the bed? But the restaurant and food! Could not be better. Excellent tastes and nice people to serve. The hotel has a beautiful outdoor area with nice flowers. 30 minutes walk into downtown Torquay.

    « Weekend away »

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at this hotel the location is lovely for relaxing and enjoying the view ! It is a bit out of the town but we were happy with that and used it as a base for looking around over the weekend, it's central for Paignton, Brixham and Torquay which was really nostalgic for me to look around having spent time in that area with my mum years ago. The staff were excellent very polite and helpful. The room was clean, a bit dated and plain, the bath was very small but we managed. The food I could not fault we ate in the bar both nights as the outlook over the sea and warm weather to sit out on the patio was just right so no need to search about really and we could both have a drink and chill out. The fixtures and fittings are a little dated and old fashioned but I found it quite quaint, all very clean and well looked after. The one pain was no parking each time we went in and out, there was extra parking in other hotels but one was a bit of a trot especially if you had left anything you needed in the boot ! There was a wedding on the Saturday night and with only 1 small bar the staff were stretched to cope with the volume mind they did so with a smile and did all they could. I would stay here again as I loved the location and view

« Let bygones be bygones »

Second visit, and nothing changes. Although nothing ever changes much here! A genuine throwback to a different era, but better for it in many ways. The rooms are dated (see photo of en-suite - an assault on the eyes!) but charming in a post-Victorian kind of way. The staff are great, really friendly, and the food is decent too - quantity and reasonable quality. If lively is your thing then this place is not for you, but if you want quiet and decor from the Ark, then you won't be disappointed.

« Shockingly misrepresented online. Dated shabby hovel. »

I am at a loss as to how this hotel thought the room I stayed in commanded a rate of £130 per night. I would not pay a penny. Fortunately for them, I arrived very late and tired. Too tired to challenge them on the horrendous room they put me in that bore no resemblance whatsoever to any of the website images or indeed, descriptions. The room was desperately worn, hadn't been updated since at least the early 80's. Best Western can usually be relied on to offer classic environments, individuality and comfort however the fact that they are affiliated with this shocker of a 'hotel' is staggering giving the diabolical, inadequate standards. The shower was a joke. Power showers weren't invented in the 80's though. This was an attachment from the bath with no power and ran hot and cold. A fabric shower curtain and horrid towels. I haven't seen a hairdryer like the one supplied in this room for well over a decade (fixed to the wall in the bathroom - see photo). No air con in the room. No lock on the main bedroom door!!!! The window fell off in the bathroom and was left hanging by one arm. No lock on the bathroom door. Noise until 11pm then woken from 6am by other residents moving around without any consideration for anyone else. Bed linen was as basic as possible and the mattress so hard and springy I barely slept a wink. When I spoke with the receptionist the following day she did not care less. I can only assume she is worn down by countless complaints (someone was complaining about their room when I arrived). The lift is a death trap with old style metal shutter doors which an old lady was battling with and I had to assist. NEVER waste your money staying in this pit of a hotel. I don't care if its location is beach front. I'd rather stay in a tent. Shame on Best Western for allowing these 'standards'.

    « Perfect location »

The Livermead Cliff hotel is in the ideal location for walking into Torquay and Paignton, also a stones throw from the train station. Our room (76) was beautiful a big double room with a lovely sea view. The staff were very friendly. A few areas of the hotel could do with updating however was very clean. Plenty of outside seating over looking the sea and Torquay. Would we stay here again YES.

    « Great Location »

What a wonderful view over Torbay. The lounge and terraces are in an ideal position. there is adequate car parking. The staff were excellent and so helpful. We had a good dinner, although rather overpriced. Rooms are a bit "tired", although very clean and functional. The free wifi was a bit "erratic".

    « Second visit »

This is our second visit of which my mind has not changed this is a good hotel for a 3 star with 4 star staff and food, the reason we use best western is because they take pets, we can recommend room 54 as their is a large patio and easy access to the garden and beach, the only issue I have is the bed is to firm for mr

    « Pleasantly Surprised »

We stayed here as my brothers wedding was taking place here. Though the rooms are a little dated.. The staff and the service was amazing.. Could not fault the staff in anyway at all. The hotel is very clean... In a beautiful location.. In fact we are thinking of staying here in the summer with our children..

« Booked a room for my fiancée £80 deposit... »

Well this review is based on booking before visiting. once I walked in to the hotel lobby I thought somehow I had entered a time machine. The decor, carpets, and general hotels fittings are extremely dated, suprized not find a drug addict bombed out, as the carpets and chair coverings in bar area are that psychedelic. Plus the visitors of hotel, trying not to be ageist, it was like walking into a old people's home. And considering they class themselves as a top hotel. After being considerate and courteous about trying to get a refund on a deposit. Considering its my partners night before our marriage. They after debate, I doubt.... Talking to the owner, refused a refund. £80 I believe any part of life would call that theft! Disgusting hotel, avoid it.

    « 40th Birthday Party »

It was the 40th Birthday of Inter-line Builders Merchants and 160 present and past members of staff were there to celebrate, The Hotel was excellent, the Staff were very helpful and pleasant. The room we were in had a great view across Torbay to Torquay and the beach was a matter of yards away. The food was excellent for the party and for breakfast, we would recommend this hotel to everyone.

    « Charming »

We received a warm welcome at the Livermead Cliff Hotel once again and were impressed by the staff professionalism at reception and in the bar / restaurant . The lounge and terrace and proximity to the quiet beach and rocks make the hotel very decadent and there is plenty of outdoor seating to appreciate the wonderful view . The hotel is in a good location for exploring the seafront and Cockington on foot and free-parking was a great bonus .

    « Restaurant »

The food here is top class, one of the best restaurant meals in a hotel I have ever had. Staff can not do enough for you, waitresses mainly French but always under the watchful eye of Peter the restaurant manager.

    « A perfect English Riviera break »

One of the very best short breaks we have enjoyed, very much due to the quality of this hotel. Everything was to our liking - the room, the food and the hotel premises and facilities. The breakfast and dinner experience was a real treat, and you were made to feel very welcome in a place that felt special. The staff were all friendly and efficient, even the few trainees. The location has lovely views. The walk into the town centre is some 15-20 minutes, but there is a frequent bus service, also serving the neighboring resorts of Paignton and Brixham. We shall certainly go back there.

« Redhat weekend in a charming old fashioned hotel »

I attended a convention on 22-24th April. Reception were polite and efficient at my booking and on arrival. A porter even carried my case, bag and coat to my room whilst I wended my way to the bar ! My single room was bijoux and compact but more than adequate for my needs. The bed was comfortable, clothing space adequate and bathroom with shower much appreciated since these days getting in and out of the bath can be challenging. I had a sea view so waking up to the sound of the waves delightful. A pot of tea in the morning appreciated but not the milk supplied-UGH- a problem easily solved by a jug of milk supplied by the bar staff each evening.Food at the convention was exellent as was the food bought at the bar in the evenings, There was a wide choice and the bar staff were happy to individualize orders. I am a coeliac and bar staff were happy to assist me with my choice and produced my requested gluten-free sandwiches.Though the hotel is in a little bit of a timewarp _ pink bathrooms_ and could do with some tweeking the rooms were comfortable and public rooms clean and comfortable. For a change we had more than adequate number of staff and breakfast was a mixture of buffet and waiter service, Breakfast excellent. The hotel is situated at the end of the esplanade but getting to the center is easy, bus stop just across the road and it only takes 10 mins max. You could walk it!. Last bus back is 23,40 so you can enjoy a night out .

    « Large gathering »

I attended a Convention for approximately 200 people and was very impressed indeed with the standard of food at the lunch banquet and the immaculate silver service by the staff. Unable to find fault with anything. Our overnight room was fine. The decor is a bit dated and the layout awkward with odd stairways when managing luggage but rooms are comfortable and bed linen fresh and clean. The sea front position is delightfuland view from our room a real treat. Good breakfast very nicely served. Staff are pleasant and helpful and willing and obviously well trained. All in all an excellent visit especially for the price. Wifi was very slow and very patchy. I never managed to connect.

    « RED HATTERS CONVENTION 23 APRIL 2016 »

The Riviera Royals Red Hatters held the South West Red Hat Convention at the Livermead Cliff Hotel. It was a fabulous day which was made even better by the wonderful service from the hotel. The staff worked tirelessly all day and everything ran perfectly. The meal served with full silver service to over 180 delegates was excellent and well presented. We also had a disco party in the evening which was fab. Thank you to everyone at the hotel.

    « A wonderful Red Hatters Convention »

What a wonderful day we had at this hotel. The function room was bright and airy with plenty of space to accommodate something in the region of nigh on 200 ladies for their special Convention. The staff could not have been more helpful and we enjoyed a fabulous meal at lunch. It was three courses and I don't usually eat much at lunchtime but this was just too delicious not to dig in to. There was plenty to eat and the portions were sumptuous. The location of the hotel is quite stunning as it is bang on top of a cliff overlooking the sea. Don't be confused with the other hotel which also bears a similar name which is on the other side of the road. The service was efficient and friendly. I wish I had stayed overnight now.

    5
    « Very Friendly »

we spent 2 nights at this hotel, we had a very lovely room and a sea view. the staff were very friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough to make our stay a nice one. the staff were very well turned out and the location was very nice, the sea view was excellent especially waking up to each morning. the distance from the harbour was walkable and with amazing views of the area. we would definitely come back

    2
    « 80's decor »

The hotel was chosen for its location and easy walk to Torquay. On arriving in the room we were very disappointed due to the very outdated decor - which is still in the 1980's. The bathroom suite dates from the 1970's and poorly is maintained around the bath. The bath was so narrow that when showering the shower curtain stuck to our bodies. The bed was very old with a very outdated valance around the base. There was no modern furniture or decent chairs to sit on. The dresser and wardrobe looked as though they were made in 1970. We had booked a booked a sea view room so we could sit in the room and enjoy the views. However, it was difficult to see the sea when sat in the room due to the very small window. There was also a french window (also covered in net curtain) around which there were water stains where water had ingressed and had not been redecorated.) The door opened onto a shared balcony so it felt that there was no privacy. Breakfast was adequate but at £12.50 was very overpriced and if you wanted smoked salmon you would have to pay an addition £6..00! On the first morning when we arrived the buffet of fruit and croissants had not been replenished, we went to breakfast earlier the next day to be able to get a good choice. There was a large party (Red Hat Convention) staying at the hotel and had a function there on the Saturday. We felt that we should have been informed prior to our stay that a function was happening so we could have made an informed choice. There were large groups using the restaurant and lounge bars which impacted on our stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful especially the waitress in the lounge bar.

    « food & staff excellent but... »

Spent weekend for a function. Had room no. 45. Stay away from this room! Right over kitchens hence cooking aromas and extensive noise from the extractors in the kitchen all day and well into the evening. Also noise from staff using the rubbish bins often , which are right under the window. Room very warm due to heat from kitchen. However staff and food excellent.

    5
« Attentive Service at a Busy Function »

I spent the day at this hotel on 23rd April for the Red Hat SW Convention, attended by nearly 200 delegates. The staff were most supportive throughout the planning and execution of the work necessary to make this huge event a success. Full marks to all for the standard of food and service throughout the day. Nothing was too much trouble and everyone I met was impressed by their experience. Well done to all concerned!

    « Great stay »

I stayed at the Livermead Cliff for a week with my elderly parents. The location is fabulous - the hotel couldn't be any nearer to the sea if it tried, and there is lots of seating outside on the terrace, or in the lounge overlooking the sea. The staff were superb - friendly and attentive - and offered to provide alternative meal options when mum was unwell. Breakfast is good, with a buffet of cereals, fruit etc then a choice of cooked food. A very good 4 course dinner was served each evening, followed by coffee in the lounge. I would describe the restaurant as formal but not pretentious. We enjoyed sea views from our bedrooms which were clean and comfortable. It's fair to say that the bathrooms are in need of upgrading, but they were clean and serviceable. The lift is old fashioned, with doors you have to open and close yourself, but somehow adds to the character of the place. We had a lovely time there, felt we had received good value, and would certainly stay again.

  • 2
    « It served a purpose »

We needed somewhere to stay and the Livermead had a room; it was a simple as that. The best thing about this hotel is the view followed by the staff; service was very good and couldn't be faulted. The food was adequate but perhaps the evening meal was overpriced at £31 per head. The room was very dated as was the majority of the hotel and the facilities didn't work properly i.e. the shower didnt wash us at all.

    3
« Stuck in the past. Needs a lot of TLC »

Stayed here this weekend visiting family in Torquay On arrival at the hotel, I must confess our heats sank. We had chosen this hotel for its location, which did not disappoint, But the hotel itself had a horrible musty smell throughout, especially in the dining/breakfast room. The only lift in the hotel was so old and tiny and not suited to trying to get yourself and your suitcase in. I would say it is probably quite a hazzard for an elderly person or small children as it had old fashioned sliding cage doors and was tiny. We were put into room 52 which was very dated and quite pokey. The bathroom smelt of damp and the grouting around the toilet needed a good bleach. The shower over the bath was rubbish and bearly more than a dribble and almost impossible to get it to the right temperature, scolding or freezing...nothing really in between. Also, the wifi did not work in the room which was a real issue. We had afternoon tea for around 30 people on our 1st day which was very average. Nasty sandwiches with barely any filling and very meager, the scones was ok though. Very poor value. It hindsight we should have done more research and stayed somewhere more up to date, not a bland hotel chain, but somewhere newer and more up to date and with better facilities. On a plus side, there was always plenty of parking spaces and we did meet some lovely other guests at breakfast and as the average age seemed to be over 100 we did feel very young...so i guess that's a bonus!!

« Easter Sunday family lunch »

We had an enjoyable meal and loved the Easter eggs and bunches of daffodils provided for us at the table to take home. Unfortunately were left to hang up our own coats while serving staff stood and watched! All meals were good but very disappointed that lamb was not on the menu as expected from such a traditional hotel. Unfortunately a younger member of the team needed more training as I got half a plate of my neighbour's sauce down my arm, very hot and messy but the manager handled it well and made amends.Had to ask for top up of coffees in lounge though which should have been automatic. Tired hotel needs money spent on decor and training.

    3
    « Nice location »

We stayed here for a short break over Easter. The hotel is situated a little bit outside the centre of Torquay, almost midway between Torquay and Paignton. It is on the edge of the bay on a small headland, it thereby gas lively views across the bay. On our first evening, we decided to eat in the restaurant. My first disappointment was the very limited vegetarian options available and I ended up having mushrooms as a starter followed by mushrooms as a main course. The second disappointment was the lamb, which my partner found very chewy. Considering the meal in the restaurant was charged at a premium, these disappointments were not acceptable. One good note on the restaurant was that the choice and quality of wine was very good. The only other times we used the hotel restaurant was for breakfast each morning. Here, again, we were disappointed. The restaurant was small and tables were too close together. The choice of items for breakfast was very limited and items would go fast. Service in the restaurant was ok but I do wish they'd serve toast separately from tea and coffee. I could go on about the weaknesses in the restaurant but that would be unfair as the staff and reception in the hotel were generally very helpful and very friendly. We did hear others complain about size and decor of rooms, our room though was very nice and comfortable, a large bed, sofa and bathroom with shower and bath. The room also had lovely sea view, though being on the ground floor, it was not always possible to see the sea owing to the wall and hedge around the hotel grounds. All in all, the hotel is to be recommended if you are looking for a peaceful break in a traditional style of accommodation and do not mind some of the decor looking a bit 'tired'.

    2
    « Disappointing »

The staff and location of this hotel are the only good thing about it. Our the matress protector had not been cleaned. It appeared to have blood on it. The metal window frame in our room was covered mildew and wooden surrounds had peeling paint. Large stains on the carpet under the window. When I used the ladies room off the restaurant area there was blood on the door going into the room and blood in the hand-basin. Very poor WiFi connection. Lots of noise coming through the ceiling from floor above.

    5
    « Wonderful weekend break »

From our arrival on the Friday evening to our departure on the afternoon of the Sunday, apart from the overall ambiance of the hotel, we can not overstate the friendliness and the helpfulness of the staff. Our room was clean and tidy as was the hotel, and we were impressed with the overall value and quality of the bar meals we were served. Cannot wait to find the time to return again.

Breakfast was lovely staff were very lovely polite and very clean breakfast room . Will definitely be back again very happy customers. Well done livermead ??????????

    « Sunday lunch »

We were married here two years ago but chose, on this occasion, to return for Easter Sunday lunch with our family. Charles is no longer here but Peter, the new General Manager is brilliant. Fantastic customer service and very attentive. The food was delicous but we were quite shocked that like on Mother's Day lunch, lamb assisting from the menu. I know it can be pricey but it could be added to the menu with a supplement. One of the waiters accidentally spilt a very hot plate of food over one of our party but again, great customer service from the manager put this right. We look forward to returning soon.

    « livermead care home »

When I booked this hotel I booked and paid for a room with a sea view, we checked in and were given our key room 69, good number I hear you say. We used the lift which was worse than a scary ride at Alton Towers, it had the old metal gate which ate my husbands hand when he tried to close it and the breeze block decoration was a sign of things to come. When we got to room 69 Myself my husband and 2 suitcases would only just fit in. The view from the window was a derelict house not the sea. My husband went right down to reception and demanded they move us to a room fit for humans with the overly paid for sea view. We were moved to room 26 on the other end of the hotel it did indeed have the sea view which was great, along with a double bed 2 single beds 2 large arm chairs and a table not to mention all the other furniture we had in there, I thought we were on the antiques roadshow. We were tired hot and hungry, so we unpacked and went down to the lounge it was nice a good view of the sea and a nice outside terrace. We were given the menu which was very basic but designed to fool you with fancy words. At the end of the day a pork chop is just that, so we decided on a bar meal which was somewhat better as long as you like chunky chips. We ordered a cold meat platter with salad new potatoes and a boiled egg. The meal arrived minus the potatoes and the egg. The meat was a bit of processed chicken a bit of fatty ham and a slice of beef so rare a good vet could have saved it. When we asked about the missing food all we got was and I quote oh was it. We got a pudding as a replacement which was also vile. The outcome of this meal was £38.00 for a few green leaves a quarter of tomato 2 slices of cucumber and the few remains of dead animals. Needless to say we ate out in the evenings after that. The next event was breakfast now when I say poached eggs on toast I take it that everyone would agree on the eggs to mean more than one,.It turned up in less than 2 mins and there on the plate was what used to be a slice of bread before it was mutilated some one saw fit to cut off the crusts it now was the same size as a Jacobs cream cracker and sitting half on it was a poached egg oh it looked so sad I wanted to cry for it, it reminded me of a childs rubber power ball. I put the first and only bit in my mouth and it was then my taste buds thought it was having smoked fish as that what it tasted of. My biggest problem with this however was that someone in the kitchen had cut my crusts off. Now I now I was sat in what looked like a care home but I am still a young woman and I have all my teeth so the crust would not have been a problem. That ended the restaurant for me. And just before I go I have to tell you good people something if you ever wondered where orchids come from let me tell you they are grown on the top landing of this hotel the heat from this hall way was un bearable I would not want their gas bill. The hotel only had one good thing about it and that was the EXIT. If you are over 70 and sill think everything should be like it was when you were in your thirties then this decrepit old hotel is for you.

« Dated but clean and functional »

Although the decor and equipment is obviously fairly old, it is spotlessly clean and does not have that 'old' smell about it, and everything works. Good location, decent breakfast and good dinner option (was 2 for 1 at time of visit). Under occupied (in a cold, wet March) but should imagine it is popular in the Summer.

    « Happy New Year »

I stayed at this hotel with a coach party for 4 days over last new year. We all had a wonderful time, first class food entertainment and very friendly and helpful staff. Would certainly recommend. The afternoon teas were really nice and the New year's Eve meal was terrific. We travelled from the north of England but the trip was certainly worthwhile. Thank you

« Anniversary Weekend - Tired but excellent service! »

We stayed here for our anniversary weekend in a lovely room with a great view of the English Channel. Although the hotel is tired and in need of some TLC the staff were very efficient and the restaurant served excellent food.

    5
« Fantastic view over Torbay »

If you appreciate a traditional hotel with no chrome or mirrors in sight then this is for you. I sat with a glass of wine in the bar/lounge and watched the most beautiful sunset over the bay.The multi coloured lights strung along the sea front and the twinkling lights of Torquay were magical. The Livermead Cliff has an air old fashioned charm about it. The Restaurant offers a good menu at sensible prices and staff are attentive and friendly

    5
    « What a view »

We stayed for three nights at this hotel, which is literally "on the beach", or would be, if it weren't for the sea wall, with its name emblazoned on it! I had asked, almost tongue in cheek, for a sea view and wow, did we get one!! The staff were great, very friendly and helpful. One of the reviewers had previously complained about the lift and this is definitely a problem they have. It is very small and has the old double-door system, which is difficult to work. The staff did offer to help us with our luggage if we needed, though, which would probably have been an easier option. We did find the shower in the room a little difficult to work out, but otherwise the room was excellent. I can see what people mean by an "80s look", but it was fine for us!! Another reviewer complained about the position, being remote from the town centre and shops. OK, it is a twenty minute walk, probably, but we found the bus service to be excellent and the bus stops are only yards from the hotel. It is actually quite convenient for a walk along the lane to Cockington village, which we did in about 30-40 minutes. We ate in the bar on two evenings and thoroughly enjoyed the Brixham fish and chips!

    4
« Good position, very clean, excellent food »

Comments have been made that this place needs a bit of updating which is true but it is very clean, the staff are excellent and obliging and the food was first class. We would definitely stay there again. We paid extra for a room with a sea vie which was a good size and had a genuine sea view and we would book the same again.

    « Valentines weekend »

We stayed at the Livermead Cliff hotel for 1 night (Saturday 13 Feb) in Room 8. It was a last minute booking - the staff on reception were lovely, very friendly and accommodating. We ate in the bar and the food was excellent. We was very disappointed with the room - the mattress must have been 20+ years old (felt like you were being stabbed all night by the bed springs), I actually suffer with back/shoulder problems due to a back/shoulder injury which meant that I could not sleep in the bed as it was so painful for me. The toilet seat was cracked (very unhygienic) and loose. The TV didn't work due to the aerial signal. There was a humming sound all night which we could hear and a banging music noise. The cold tap from the sink dribbled hardly any water out. This room was very disappointing for us, especially for a valentines break. We both hardly slept the night due to all these issues and checked out just before 8am - we didn't even stay for breakfast as we both had enough.

    « Beautiful seafront location »

This seafront hotel has lovely sea views. Bedrooms vary in quality. Some recently redecorated, some larger than others, some with sea view balcony so I guess it will pay to be specific on your needs and pay for upgrades. Good breakfast room and good English breakfast. Attentive staff and management. The reception area and lounge bar area is a bit out of date and tired, but again, great sea views and good food.

    2
« the view was probably the same in the eighties »

The hotel was a 20 minute walk from town and we were told when booking it was 5 minutes. Subsequently we spent £40 in 2 days on taxis. The decor is very dated it took me back to the eighties but not in a good way. I would not stay there again unless it was refurbished and priced more reasonably.

    4
« Slightly dated but lovely position. »

This hotel has a great position right next to the sea. It has gardens and terraces which can be used in good weather. The décor is a bit dated but the rooms are warm and comfortable. The hotel is ideally placed for visiting the whole of Torbay.

« excellent food and service, elevator needs replacing »

Stayed for 4 days over Christmas 2015 and found the food and the service excellent. Some aspects of the hotel need updating such as the only lift which has double doors on each floor and the inside door is composed of metal struts held by springs and seems to have been there since the hotel was built long ago. These doors are very heavy to operate and pose a danger to users especially chIldren and the elderly. .A modern lift would be apprerciated. Also the temprature in the lounge was often excessive such that the outside door was often left open to cool the area. Our room was rather small but clean. The food served over the Christmas stay was wonderful.Best ever food.

    « Great food »

    « poor food »

I have been coming with a club here for a lunch for a few years and now find that what was once a good lunch is now overpriced and not very well cooked as most things are overcooked and small portions for not a very cheap price.Perhaps the original chef has gone but the food is poor .Also now that the piano player has died the atmosphere has all gone ,The xmas lunch was very quiet withno atmosphere at all so non felt in a xmas mood. very disappointing and I for one will not be returning which will be a relief to get away from the proverbial carrots

« A very acceptable place to stay »

Being a Best Western Gold Card customer, they kindly upgraded my wife and I to a family room with a sea view, which was very kind, and a lovely start to our stay. The room (# 26) was quite large, containing a double bed and two single beds. The view overlooking the seashore, rather than across the bay. Stunning views nevertheless, with moonlight on the water on some nights, and lots of sea birds, including Little Egrets. The breakfast was first class. We opted for a full English, which comes with a choice of eggs, sausage, bacon, tomato, baked beans, mushrooms, potatoes, etc., plus a great selection of fruits, cereals and yoghurts etc. We also ate there a few nights. The choice of menu varied each night, so as to give diners a good variety, and had half a dozen different starters, mains and desserts to suit most tastes. A four course meal being under £30 per person. Very good value and very good quality too. The staff were friendly and polite, and some nights included live music for the tinsel and turkey coach parties. The one man band electric guitar chap being really very talented as he did songs from the 60s to the 80s, Queen and Status Quo being my personal favourites. The bar overlooks the sea, and serves well-kept local real ale. All in all, very good, and we would stay here again. For those travelling by car, it is worth nothing there are more car park spaces than there are rooms, so no need to panic.

    « Rip-off hotel »

Staff unwilling to help, toilet won't work, lights don't work, taps don't work. Calls itself a pet friendly hotel but dogs not welcome. When booking online make sure you read the small print because the staff won't help if you overlook something.

    « ANOTHER RETURN VISIT »

Just returned today from another Turkey &Tinsel visit with my group from 2ks travel. We have been several times and we think this was the best one yet. Superb location overlooking the sea could sit and look out all day. Staff absolutely wonderful, immaculately turned out, polite friendly and always helpful. Rooms are slowly being refurbished several of my group had lovely new bathrooms but all were clean with fresh towels daily and lovely and warm. The food, what can you say, superb, 5 course every evening with such a huge selection to choose from and all beautifully presented with professional silver service. We all loved everything about this hotel and have already booked to return next year. so many thanks again to Anthony and his staff for another fabulous holiday at the Livermead Cliff.

« Excellent food and service »

Having previously been a bit sniffy about this hotel, I have to say the food was terrific on our latest visit, and the service throughout the hotel was excellent. The waiters and waitresses in particular were excellent. Cheerful, hard working and very tolerant of our northern 'humour'. The restaurant was very well managed. The rooms are still the typical eclectic mix we seem to put up with from English seaside hotels. Ours was compact, possessed a vibrant pink bathroom suite, peeling paint in the bathroom and heating that didn't work. Apart from that, it was fine.

    « 3day break »

Booked to stay for a quiet break as usual.unfortunately my friend was taken ill and admitted to hospital .the staff were concerned and enquired as to his state of health and showed concern to me as to how I was. This was much appreciated and during the rest of my stay I visited the hospital twice daily and each time the staff were concerned.(my friend fell ill which had no bearing on hotel) . thank you to all the staff from me and my friend. I had to return home and collect items for friend and booked a further stay in week and the same concern was given again thank you. As always the service, food, rooms and cleanliness were of a high standard.

« Well positioned and welcoming »

The Livermead Cliff hotel is very well positioned overlooking the sea and a pleasant short walk along the bay into the town and amenities. We booked this hotel at very short notice and the booking and reception were handled very well. We were given a spacious room with a lovely view over the bay into Torquay. Free Wi-Fi worked throughtout the hotel. We didn't dine in the restaurant that night but ate in the bar and the sandwiches were delicious and nicely presented. Chips were red hot! We had breakfast the next morning and there was plenty of choice, the food was delicious and the plates were very hot as it should be. A lot of hotels fall down on hot food being served on cold plates. The standard of service throughout the hotel was very good indeed. If I was in the area again I wouldn't hesitate to stay there!

« Stunning views but faded splendour.. great for a night »

We found this hotel by googling 'best sea views'. I didn't check it out on tripadvisor but just decided to book it for a one night stay. Sure enough the sea views are as good as they could possibly be and we were not disappointed with that. The actual hotel itself is probably in need of an upgrade. I can see all the staff are very professional and try their best but the hotel has feel of faded splendour and a lot of the look and feel is very 1970's although I can see that there is a function suite that has already been upgraded. Our room was clean enough and did have a balcony to a sea view but again the room had that old-fashioned feel. Everything was clean.. but old. We looked at the dinner menu and thought about eating in but decided to go out and have a fish meal. Breakfast was passable. Don't get me wrong.. I would still stay here in preference to a more modern hotel because it has that all important view. My advice is that it's great for the odd night but no longer than that.

    « wedding »

my husband and I had our wedding reception here in August. I could not recommend the hotel more highly. our wedding reception went perfectly. The hotel has great views from the reception room, garden and honeymoon suite. The hotel is clean, has great decor, food drinks and outstanding service. weddings do not always run smoothly but I (the bride) was totally unaware of my naughty/troublesome guests or problem with other service providers thanks to the amazing staff at this hotel. every time we have visited to plan or book we have had great service and food. ....the honeymoon suite was massive and beautiful too.

« A nice hotel next to the sea »

This hotel is at least a 20 minute walk along main road by sea to the town but you can get a bus nearby. It is situated right by the sea. I had a lovely room if a bit dated with views across the sea to the harbour, bed was a little uncomfortable but otherwise really liked room. Breakfast was excellent as well, although did take staff quite a while before they took order for tea. Wi-fi was ok but not the best, but did enjoy my stay here.

    « Needs Modernising »

Stayed for only one night on 24 October and I can honestly say I'm glad it was only one night. I had booked 3 rooms for myself and my family and all rooms left a lot to be desired. I will be in no hurry to go back to this hotel. There was a pubic hair on the sheet of my bed and several on the bathroom floor. The toilet was set so close to the wall if you were right handed as I am you had to sit sideways to use it. The rooms need money spent on them to be worth the money charged.

« Helpful and by the sea. »

Running conferences can be hard work. But the staff at the Livermead Cliff were so helpful that the three days went without a hitch. Everything which had been asked for/arranged in advance was done. And the function room was laid out exactly as required. This necessitated two changes in the furniture arrangements but this was done in a very short period between two sessions without having to be reminded. As we also had extra lunchtime sessions on a voluntary basis, the staff provided cold meals in the function room which could be ordered during the morning, complete with time required. For several sessions we asked for complete silence in the room. This is done and no noise of chiming teaspoons or cups on saucers interrupted the readings. Yet the tea and coffee was produced within seconds of the session ending. The managers were helpful, the staff the same (even escorting an elderly lady to her seat several times a day). A few comments say the hotel looks a little tired: not so but if being a little tired means having a polite staff, cleanly dressed and ready to attend to the customers and people staying, then we ought to have more of it in Torbay. And again, you just can't beat the view: moonlight on the sea, waves crashing on the rocks, sun reflecting from still water. During the three days we had it all. And ease of access to the terrace made it all the more fascinating.

« Long weekend to celebrate my birthday »

Good sea view room. Decor a little dated and bathroom in need of refurbishment. Breakfast was good and served by very friendly staff. All staff were most helpful and I would be quite happy to recommend this hotel to my friends.

« Fantastic location, right on the sea front, beautiful. »

The hotel is basic, its a little tired but homely and comfortable. I would have rated it good rather than very good but this wasn't an option. I would advise asking for a sea view as rooms on the other side of the hotel have a lot of traffic noise. The staff were very pleasant and attentive and evidently work very hard. The food was of a reasonable standard. So, a comfortable and affordable hotel for anyone not looking for luxury.

« Nice Hotel Bad Beds »

Stayed one night as they were dog friendly, the staff are helpful and friendly, and the hotel was in an excellent position. I had a single room 41/42 bed was very uncomfortable with a very loud extractor fan below. Hence very little sleep, very disappointing £12.50 for a breakfast they must be joking!!!!!!

    « Great staff »

We had a marvellous sea view room with uninterrupted view across the bay. All the staff could not have been more helpful. The restaurant was very comfortable with a very good range of food and wine. Very good hotel!

« Old, run down and depressing! »

We've been travelling the uk for 6 weeks staying in a new place every time and this is the worst we've stayed in. Very old and out dated. Rooms were unbearably hot to the point you couldn't sleep and couldn't cool them down even with window open. Wifi didn't work. TVs had no reception. Staff seemed depressed and unhappy. We made the mistake of eating in the restaurant as we'd had a long day driving and couldn't be bothered going out. food was poor at best and extremely over priced! Wait staff were unhelpful and unfriendly when they eventually approached us. we couldn't even get a jug of water after asking twice and they never even asked if we would like any other kind of drinks with our meals. Torquay is an amazing little village but do yourself a favour and stay anywhere else!!!

    « Lovely stay »

This hotel was right on the sea front with fantastic views, staff were very polite and helpful. Food fantastic, ideally based for surrounding area. Would recommend to friends and family. Only downside was windows in room didn't shut properly so quite abit of noise from outside

    « Out of date! »

Well picked the Livermead because of the location by the sea,it is the only hotel in Torquay that's on the coast of the sea,the staff are excellent, the food is good, but Best Western need to upgrade this hotel to keep customers coming back,it is only fair not only to customers but to staff, who so so helpful to please, come on Best Western upgrade The Livermead , or are all your hotels like this

« Good food, excellent staff, very poor bedroom. »

The staff at the hotel were polite and helpful and the choice of food excellent but our double room was tiny and the en suite awful. It all needed urgent refurbishment. The hotel is in a lovely position overlooking the sea.

« In need of major refurb »

Amazing position close to both Torquay and Paignton with fab views across the bay. Loads of parking and breakfast first class. The downside to this hotel is the very dated rooms and public areas. Our first room we were given was tiny and so dated with the worst furnishings and mattress we've ever seen. The mattress must have been at least 20yrs old and when I pulled the covers back it was covered in stains :-( bearing in mind this was costing £125 a night B&B. We immediately went back to reception to complain and was obligingly given a key to go and have a look at another room. This was a family room overlooking the sea, which was much bigger than the original but still very dated and with horrendously old and uncomfortable mattresses. It was definitely an improvement than the first room so we decided to stay in it. I know due to the current economic climate that businesses are suffering but if this hotel wants people to recommend and return they really do need to think about spending some money on improving it. All that besides the staff were lovely and the weather was glorious for our few days stay and it hasn't put us off Torquay at all.

« 3 Star Hotel with great views across the Bay to Torquay »

An excellent hotel for a 3 star rating but the rooms could do with updating. They are a little tired and some of the furnishings rather cheap but never-the-less fully functional and not a problem. One or two of our party complained that their rooms were a bit pokey but that was not my experience. Our room was well cleaned every day The staff were, without exception, absolutely excellent - pleasant and efficient from the General Manager (who would get stuck in and help where necessary) down Clearly the staff were well managed but not bullied. The food was excellent both at breakfast and evening meals and they were very accommodating about varying the make up of the meals if one was choosy.

« Not worth the money but--- »

I will Start with the staff.. Great people can't fault them in anyway. Food is good and served promptly. Now the bad hotel is dated beds are really soft (personal prev is firm ) but what really milled it is finding a kids dummy under the bed and stew on the valance which h is unexabtable for £100 plus per night .Would I stay again YES but not at that price
