This should be a very good review - probably in the excellent rating. A good room with comfortable king bed, good bathroom, very friendly reception staff, an excellent restaurant (evening dinner and breakfast), plenty of easy parking. So why a 3 average rating ? In a word - road noise. Your main reason for staying in a motel is to sleep after a long day's drive. Ok, the room quality, service and food is also important, but pales into insignifcance if you can't get a good nights sleep. We had room 2, at the front of the motel and close to the New England Highway. It's a king bed room at $169 a night (not a budget price for a motel in Regional NSW). The motel is located on a major roundabout on the highway and large transport trucks are moving through day and night. Their breaking and then accelerating through the gears can be heard all night and in a few cases you feel they are the room with you. I noticed in other reviews (read after our stay) Motel Management respond to reviews that the trucks are finished their runs by 10/10.30 pm through Tamworth. Numbers may be reduced, but they rumble through all night. I was awoken at least every half hour during the night. Such a shame as the motel is excellent in all other aspects. As I said, a good nights sleep is the reason for a motel stay. Be aware of this issue !!!!

« Traffic noise is significant »

We had a premium room, which, while a bit small, is adequately equipped. The restaurant provided a good meal (reviewed separately). The Inn is located on a roundabout, frequented by heavy vehicles 24 hours a day, so the room you occupy may affect the quality of sleep you experience. Late night road work continued until 11 pm - that's not the fault of the Inn, of course, and it won't go on for ever, but for the immediate future it could be a problem for those who sleep lightly and would prefer to sleep rather than watch TV. We were in Room 37, and the noise from outside the premises came close to being unpleasantly obtrusive.

    « disappointed »

we stayed one night at this motel it was very noisy rooms were not up to Best Western Standards very disappointed the only good thing going for it was the nice girls at the desk the motel really needs to have some upgrades done to bring it up to other Best Westerns we have stayed in

    « Basic hotel room »

There was nothing really wrong with this place except it is very tired. There is a Chinese restaurant in the lobby but I don't try it as I arrived too late. The room I had was a bit noisy due to the refrigeration fan.

« A must for all tamworth travellers »

One night stop over, found this motel to be exceptional very very clean, rooms large and great location to all venues staff friendly and helpful, this motel has adequTe parking, wine bar and restuarant and 5 min walk to woolies and dan Murphy right across road

« Disappointing stay in noisy room »

We recently spent a night in this motor inn which left a lot to be desired. The room was depressing with decor from the 1970s or so it seemed. The bed was rock hard and the pillows unyielding. The noise from the street made sleep difficult. It seemed every vehicle that went past was coming through the wall, so close and loud did it feel. The outside lights turned off after midnight and came on at 4 am, illuminating our room as well as others in the same wing. The fridge rumbled loudly throughout the night and the bathroom door jammed when shut. When I booked the room, I was quoted $149 plus, however the Internet rate with online booking agents was $129, which the receptionist matched. However the kind attention of one of the staff members, Belinda, at the motel's Lobby restaurant was much appreciated. She was attentive and went well beyond the call of duty. Belinda was excellent.

    « Not close to 4star »

I have just read the reviews and I'm sure management will come back at me with a comment or blame game. I guess I got one of the unrenovated rooms which did not state when I booked. You shouldn't go wrong with a 4 star motel....... The motel shouldn't be part 4star should it? Room 44 is old smelly, so out dated, noisy with trucks and disgusting, mould in fridge, very large cracks in walls, shower curtain, stains all over carpet worn furniture, patched up walls, noisy fridge, power points no existent. Pillows crap yet I couldn't find the pillow menu either.(as stated in another review response) I ordered room service don't waste your money on the famous scotch it's full of fat no butter mushroom sauce, the pot wedges (2) had a funky taste and the beans were gross. ( defiantly not your pub grub as stated in another review) way over priced for the Daily special and wasn't advise of the price dinner was $66 the steak and calamari no drinks/breads or desert and delivered covered in foil. I thought the staff would've asked me why I didn't eat my meal but no questions were asked, I know if I had left a full plate the chef should've been advised. I also had the calamari asked if it was crumbed or batter was told no was served fresh but was covered in thick flour, very average. Not sure of the mini bar everything is coded with stickers if you don't trust your patrons why have a mini bar? Maybe when you advertise your pricing you should state if you get a Reno or unreno room, I see you don't have any images of the unreno rooms this would help the client then decide if they want to stay in comfort or filth! I'll guess I will just have to wait on my responses when I tell reception in the morning as I can't sleep. Only good thing was the wifi. So I thought I would post this after I checked out and to see what type of response I received. I was told when booking on line it's very limited in the description my response was when its a 4 star motel you shouldn't get 1 star room and they don't show you the run down rooms, she said I could up grade for a cost, not sure how you up grade from a supposed to be 4 star room to a 4 star room. I then discussed my meal she said she has never heard a complaint and I said my meal was my hardly touched why wasn't I contacted or the chef notified and said it was way over priced I expect a top grade meal and they need to advise people of the cost instead of putting on menu ask about our daily specials I would hate to see what it would cost not being on special. The reception staff did apologise as she charged my account full fee. I've stayed in hostels that have better service. Very disappointing

    « King bed was a bonus »

A very large motel which was very busy. It had obviously been an older style motel which has been renovated. Our room was very small - could have done without the sofa which would have given us some more room. The King bed was unexpected and was very comfortable. The ensuite was adequate.

« Please bring your own pillow »

Upon check in I found the reception staff not that friendly,I checked out the restaurant pricing when I was at check in and I was shocked - there was a steak main meal for $46 - I thought I was at the Rockpool in Sydney. I had room 28 which was clean and quite large, plenty of power points,a good tv and a table for my laptop so I was happy.Shower had good amount of power but bathroom lights very faint. Certain foxtel chanels kep on falling out - not sure if it was room location but a little annoying.Hotel is quite central and you can walk in to town restaurants in five or so minutes. My big gripe was the bed which was a a bed of nails -no bounce or give and the pillows - all sucked and I woke with a sore neck. I have stayed here before and would stay again - but maybe I would ask about another room and check the bed and pillows first. $155 for the night was ok

    « OK as a conference venue »

I recently participated in a conference held at the Sanctuary Inn and whilst right on the upper limit for the venue they did a good job to accommodate us and everything worked well. The food at the conference mixer and Dinner was also good for an event such as ours and the lunches were interesting and more than adequate. I stayed elsewhere so can't comment on the accommodation but overall it was a appositive experience.

    « Friendly staff »

My room was a showing its age, but was clean and tidy. It had a spa in the corner with a shower above in the main room and a seperate toilet and basin. I would stay there again if fiven the opportunity. The food in restaurant was beautiful but a little over priced ($44 for steak).

    « A weekend Trip to Tamworth »

We traveled over to Tamworth for business. The Staff we super friendly and helpful. We were running late and a staff member stayed back and extra few minutes as we got there to check in just after 10pm. The room was very clean and spacious. The spa being in front of the bed and sort of part of the bedroom was very nice. THe bed was really comfortable and the pillows were just the right feel. Overall a great place to stay when stopping for a few nights in Tamworth. The motel is just on the out skirts of the CBD.

    « service was a let down »

they waited until I left to then call me up and ask if they could charge me extra for using the second room. I had used the other room and they said because of cleaning such as making the bed I had used they charge me 180 extra for using the room I was shocked in how they went about it wish they had of said something when I first left but they chose to wait until I left an then threaten me with police if I didn't pay. I'm unsure of why police was to be mentioned... but I ended up going back and paying the 180 and all was okay but still unsure to why police was mentioned.

« A great hotel with excellent pet friendly room »

This was an excellent room, we stayed with our dog on the journey from Newcastle to Brisbane and it was very nice, there was even a small piece of land to walk the dog around. We were near the front of the building but didn't have any disruption from road noise. The room was clean and functional and the decor was nice and fairly modern, although the heating/ac took a while to heat the room. The pool also looked really nice, we would definitely recommend and stay again in the future if we are ever passing through.

    « Old and musty »

My goodness. It's been too long since I was last here that I actually thought it would be a good idea to try staying at this place. I somehow managed to end up in one of their I renovated rooms. What a mistake. Furniture and fittings are still from the 70s or 80s?? I think the renovated rooms will probably be good to stay in but not the older rooms. I'm going back to my old favourite next time, CH on Peel.

« Excellent quality service and value for money »

Excellent service, clean and quiet rooms, excellent quality. Very impressed with front staff, had wedding on and yet took time to make service personal. Even suggested extra compliments for room service. Food was delicious have had room service and restaurant and no difference in the quality. Have travelled here both as couple and single highly recommended. Would stay here again. Thank you for wonderful experience :)

« Room was tiny for the amount we paid. »

Hotel is in an ideal location for travellers, however, this makes for a fair bit of noise from trucks passing through - still, have stayed in places with a lot more noise. Lady on reception was friendly enough, but not overly. We stayed only one night - for $169 I don't know whether we would stay for more than that. The room has a King bed and a king single bed - which were quite comfortable - but you couldn't fit anything else in the room really. The bathroom wasn't too bad and the room was clean - we were just amazed at how small it was! The motel is close to eating places and shopping, which is good, and free Wi-Fi is available, which is always good. Overall - it was comfortable, but a bit pricey.

« Staff service exceeds expectations »

While visiting here on business I needed help with an issue and the staff couldn't have been more kind. They went beyond any expectations I had and provided me with assistance in such a courteous and friendly manner! We've stayed here before and it's ALWAYS a pleasure and our preferred accommodation in this geographic area. Rooms are always spotless, food is extraordinarily good and every staff member we've encountered has been warm and accommodating. Definitely the destination of choice in the Tamworth region. The stack of awards for motel 'Excellence' I saw on the reception desk didn't surprise me in the least :-)

« This place fits the bill »

This fine hotel is situated strategically on the New England Highway, where it bypasses the center of Tamworth. It is within walking distance of the city hub. The service at both reception and in the restaurant is excellent, the rooms of high quality and the food of a high standard. The wine list is modest but with quality choices. I recommend the Strawberry kiss cocktail (But that is another story).

« Excellent restaurant and clean ample rooms »

We have travelled from Adelaide and outside of Adelaide this was the best restaurant. Belinda the restaurant manager was excellent, helpful and very warming. The motel is good and very clean and it is worth using the restaurant but sit by the open fire place before eating

  • 3
« Good room, bad location »

The hotel is a large and well maintained complex. However the location on Marius St, which we did not realise is the highway, is poor as on corner where trucks slow to turn on way to Sydney. Though not on street could still hear trucks using air brakes. Room is standard size but had a very comfortable bed. Water pressure was poor which does not help on a cool July morning. Easy walking distance to all attractions in town . Check in was smooth and easy

    « country getaway »

Spent a night here for a birthday surprise - a loft apartment was roomy and comfortable. Pre-dinner drinks at the bar in front of an open fire set the scene for a very well prepared and presented dinner. Without doubt the best meal I've eaten in Tamworth

    « Comfy quiet »

Arrived and was met by attentive check-in staff although after having been on the road since 3 am our tolerance of small talk was somewhat limited and a speedier service and direction to amenities would have been welcomed. Room was sizable with private spa large enough TV and usual room facilities. Was clean and well presented. Room staff were pleasant and happy in their roles. Check out was fast and efficient. Despite its location we found the motel to be quiet and comfortable for our extended stay.

    « Very unpleaseant/insafe experience »

I made the mistake of trusting the management of the motel when they told me the room I had booked was a spa room. It wasn't and they refused to acknowledge mistake. Instead they blamed me. Also in the middle of the night 3 very drunk men next to my room made alot of noise . I asked them to be quiet and they retaliated with bashing my door and screaming threats and obscenities. The management did respond when I rang them but the abuse continued in the morning with more threats of violence and door bashing. Horrible experience. No sleep. No real apology or offer redress from the motel. Responded with 'well you should have called the police'. The luxury room I paid for had dark decor and was depressing and gloomy. Very uncomfortable sofa in lounge area which was a sofa bed. Great menu from cafe but very expensive. Steak - $42.00. Bed good. Overall poor value and customer service.

    « What a difference a day makes »

Yeah. My friend was quoted a wrong amount for a Sunday. The price was probably for a Saturday. I'm not sure how they thought two elderly people would cope with the spa. (How 1990's) But yeah. The room was capacious and clean. It has all the heart could desire. The real thrill came with breakfast where the continental breakfast ($15.00) was brilliant. The staff were so kind and happy. (Yes. These things matter!) The kidney-shaped swimming pool, featured two ducks. They seemed happy. God knows what they were eating. The place is probably outside my price-range.

« Frequent travellers on the New England Hwy »

We stayed in the loft room for one night. It was absolutely the best, most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. So impressed that we will probably buy the same mattress for at home. No traffic noise, spacious, just great.

« outstanding accomodation and restuarant »

The accommodation in the motel was excellent, lovely rooms , comfy beds and well priced . The staff were excellent from the reception ladies to the restaurant wait staff they could not have been more friendly and helpful The restaurant has had a change of menu , I cannot fault the food from the entrée to the desert it was excellent , well priced and most importantly plenty of it

    « Visiting friends »

Staff were pleasant and cheerful. Our room was fairly average and could do with an update. The carpet was wrinkled in places. The bed was comfortable, restaurant was very good with nice staff. Downside was the price of drinks. $27.50 for an Irish coffee and $11 for Kahlua and milk I thought were a bit over the top.I thought tariff of $147 a day about $27 too high.

« Ok for work stay »

Great location and easy access to the city centre. Due to being located on the highway there is some road noise inside the room. The pillows were extremely hard and uncomfortable. The bed was lovely and soft and comfortable. The shower changed temperature constantly during use. There was a good choice of breakfast items, a little overpriced.

« Comfortable accommodation and good breakfast. »

Stayed on a business trip. Friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable and clean accommodation. Within walking distance to the CBD (500 metres). Reasonably priced for business rates. Had breakfast the next morning - my god it was unreal. It was freshly cooked - no all you can eat smorgasboard. You might have had to wait 20 minutes but it was well worth it. Had the big breakfast and it was good. Staying again even if it is just for the breakfast.

    « Enjoyable stay »

The room I had was quite large, though clearly this motel has been around for a while and this is evident in the decor. Though everything was functional and clean. The bed was soft, yet very comfortable and an iron and ironing board were provided. Mini bar prices were expensive, as were items on the dinner menu ($35) - though given the number of awards the restaurant had received, this is probably not surprising (though I did not have dinner during my stay). Staff were friendly and some excellent conference facilities were provided - the workshop lunch, consisting of rolls and sandwiches were excellent!

    « Comfortable and Friendly »

After a 6 hour drive I was ready for a break. The hotel staff were welcoming and helpful. The room was comfortable and most importantly a great shower with lots of hot water. The food from the restaurant was also good. Will stay again for sure

    « excellent accommodation »

we stayed one night, found the reception staff very obliging, the room we were allocated was large and well equipped. The carpet could have done with a shampoo. We did not eat at the restaurant as we had made other arrangements but it did look very inviting.

« Perfect for business or pleasure »

Stayed for a short business trip and couldn't fault it. Nice rooms, very clean and modern. The onsite restaurant is fairly expensive but delicious! With a big Woolies just minutes away and the town centre a short drive it really was perfect.

    « Pretty good »

While I don't get the perfect reviews, I also don't get the ones slamming this property. It's an older property, but those important things - really clean, great bed, good bathroom (excellent shower), and pretty quiet were all there. If you expect a 5 star property go elsewhere. If you want good honest value for money, give it a crack.

    « Hard to recommend. »

"A quite room away from Hwy" resulted in a std room just 2 rooms from the hwy. and at a quick glance a pretty old and cheap room it would have been. Returning to reception to remind them of our request resulted in the offer of an upgrade for a mere 25% tariff increase - why they did not respond with that warning by email one week earlier is beyond me. Having paid the surcharge (rather than move on) it reqd another trip to reception to get wifi access. Not a big deal but why not offer it automatically ? The wifi worked if you walked to the front door to get good reception. Maybe performance was just going thru a patchy stage, but most other motels offer wifi that works ALL the time automatically without asking. The best technique I have seen is where the motel has the wifi uid and password on a plaque in the room - unfortunately this motel has yet to work that one out. The 'superior room' complete with smoking facilities at our front door (yuk) was a little better but hwy noise was still very obvious. The room was modest in size with reasonable, if well worn, furniture. Just as well the air con worked because windows were locked with key lock, but of course we weren't given a key. Then again if we did open them we would have had the truck noise, so maybe it was just as well. The onsite dining room was equally quite expensive but we did not patronize it - we had paid enough surcharges. All up it is hard to recommend the Sanctuary Inn

« Good value, friendly helpful staff »

A wonderful warm welcome from staff. We had a room at the back so were not disturbed by traffic. Rooms are small and basic but very clean. A good supply of tea and coffee with fresh milk and biscuits complimentary as well. The full breakfast for $20 was very good. Huge choice of cereals, fresh fruit salad, Bircher muesli , yogurt toast tea and coffee and a choice of about six cooked brekfasts. The eggs benedict was perfect.

« Sanctuary Inn Hotel Review »

Excellent Hotel with very clean and modern facilities. Very reasonably priced. Friendly staff even down to cleaning staff. Beautiful place to stay right near plenty of eateries, petrol and biggest Woolworths I have every seen. So whatever you want or need all close to hand. Short drive to most attractions whether sporting or music. Will certainly stay there on our next trip to Tamworth.

    « Poor Value »

At $199 per night the hotel had a small bathroom, shower with plastic curtain and poor TV. The room was big with a spa bath and the bed was comfortable. The passages outside were straight concrete - no tiling.

« Too noisy and too small. »

When I checked in I specifically asked about the noise as the motel is located on the main road, and was told they had never had complaints before. Well, here's your first complain Best Western Sanctuary Inn. If you like the sound of truck air brakes at 3am in the morning, then this is the motel for you. The charm of trucks changing down gears as they approach the nearby roundabout - then book quickly, as this is where you need to stay. The upside is that you can't lose anything in your room as it is so small that once you are locked in your "cell" you really can't unpack. You also get the chance to become acquainted with your neighbors as you will know each time they flush their toilet, cough, or breathe. The walls are paper-thin and you hear everything. The board out the front boasts about their restaurant but when I checked out the menu it was sub-standard and over-priced for what it is. Breakfast menu written by someone who thinks they are smart - but as a result is simply too confusing (and expensive) to bother with. Hugely disappointed by this motel. Would give it a miss.

    « Clean, comfortable stay »

Hotel was accommodating to our very late (11pm) check in with no fuss. Room clean and well appointed, quiet enough that we fell asleep quickly. Would recommend to travellers. Centrally located and easy to find.

« Check Internet pricing first »

We had a quick over night stay at the Best Western on a resent motorcycle trip through the region. We called into this motel and they quoted $165. We thought that it was expensive but a storm was about to hit so we accepted. The following morning i checked on the net and found that i could have book a room for $135. This option was never offeted to us. VERY DISAPPOINTED.......??????

    « Easter Escape »

We hopped in the car and headed off.... We ended up in Beautiful Tamworth.... We stayed here for one night and let's just say it was a Beautiful Night..... The room was modern and very clean, the restaurant was just divine, glad to see that a great deal of love was put into the meal......the music in restaurant was relaxing, ( I was singing to my Beautiful wife in Italian ) The squid was amazing as our entree and our main was absolutely beautiful ..... And Breakfast was absolutely fresh and a great way to start the day.... The staff were all so great and accommodating..... Very Friendly..... We will definitely be back on our journey at some stage, thank you to to all ..... Peter and Cheryl Nikic....

    « The best »

Room is tip top, friendly people, fantastic restaurant. What else do you want. Our second time in this well situated motel. you feel immediatly home. A good place to stay the night on your way from Sydney to the Gold Coast.

    « I really like the Sanctuary »

I stayed at the Sanctuary back in 2010 on my first visit to Tamworth but it wasn't available during the Country Music Festival in 2013. I got to stay there again on my most recent visit. The rooms are a good size and clean. They are quiet and have good wifi and the restaurant is very pleasant. Still my "go to" place in the city because it is so convenient to downtown. The only drawback I guess is getting in and out of the parking lot because you are right at the traffic circle (roundabout) but you figure out a strategy pretty quickly.

« Nice rooms and breakfast »

Very friendly staff checked me in. The rooms were large, clean, reasonable and modern with a big screen tv. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean with decent toiletries and towels. Dinner there was a good steak but it came with only chips. When I asked for a salad they apparently had none on the menu which I found a bit disappointing and it was $10 for a glass of red wine which I also thought a bit much for a small hotel. Breakfast was very filling with biircher museli and crispy bacon and eggs as well as french pastries, so made up for a bit of the disappointment of the dinner.

    « Excellent Stay »

Staying in small country towns can be daunting but BW Sanctuary Inn was excellent. Arrived after a 7 hour drive and found we had been upgraded. Room was newly rennovated, excellently laid out and very comfortable. Easy walking distance to Woolworths as well as Oporto/Subway/McDonalds etc. Parking right out the front. Staff were very friendly and made it easy. Only suggestion would be - it was a 36 degree day and our air con struggled - if you have guests arriving that day may be worth switching the air con at say 2 so the room is cool. Otherwise awesome.

    « Overnight stay »

Stayed overnight on trip to Bathurst from Brisbane. Room was ok for the price. It was due for refurbishment as was explained when we paid. Staff were helpful and friendly. Didn't try the restaurant. Slept well even though we were in end unit by the road so noise was not an issue. Would stay again.

« Regular Long Term Guest - Will Never Return! »

My family and I are big fans of the Best Western Chain given their extremely comfortable King Koil beds. We have been regulars at this particular motel several times over many trips to Qld over the years, but no more!!! Earlier this year I (stupidly) attempted to check in just before the "County Music" Festival was about to begin. Their quote (on arrival around 7pm) for a twin room was originally $310, then reduced to $250 as I was a return guest (unfortunately the receptionist didn't check her records to see how regular!) - usually our accommodation is around $120ish per night and we always eat (well, and spend up big in the restaurant)!!! Needless to say, we drove further on that evening - yes we were tired, but much richer!!! This older, grumpy (should have known better) receptionist also said - she would still be able to sell her last 2 rooms at the full rate, as it was raining... Sorry, not impressed......

    « Award Winning Restaruant »

This motel is on the corner of a major road but doesnt feel like it as there is a bypass that a lot of cars and trucks use so noise is not an issue here. The rooms are very well furnished and have mini bar and air conditioning with good parking and multi road access. The restaruant is an award winning one and have a good variety of dishes which are a little on the expensive side but very good quality. It is also very close to 4 fast food outlets and main shopping centre are within easy walking distance.

    « Expensive but good »

Stopped here because I was tired. Surprised by the price but the room was spotless, nicely appointed and quiet. King bed. The restaurant is expensive and one of those where vegetables are extra cost as is almost everything else. I don't understand that as other than profiteering. Having said that the steak I had was excellent, cooked to perfection and the smoked tomatoes were delicious. No way I was paying nearly $10 for steamed veggies. Give people a decent , well balanced meal like they do in Glen Innes is my suggestion. The serving only the meat is pretentious in my opinion. Aside from that a good clean pace to stay if a little pricey.

    « Comfortable and Roomy »

Although this motel is on a main road, traffic noise was unnoticeable. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in & the bathroom had a proper bath. The motel was only a block from Peel St & easy to drive in & out of. Did not eat at the restaurant although the menu looked nice but the rooms were quite large and comfortable. Would stay there again.

« Enjoyable and comfortable stay »

We stayed here for a few nights during Christmas whilst visiting family. We had 5 or so hours from Sydney on Christmas Eve and were greeted by friendly and helpful staff - the check in process was quick and easy and our room was ready which is always great after a long car trip. We stayed in room 55 which was the luxury spa suite and it was just that. The room was super clean and had a boutique style to it with well thought out dressings and finishes. The room had a warm inviting feeling to it which made our stay so comfortable. As it was the holiday season we decided to have dinner at the hotels restaurant The Lobby - the menu was well planned and fitted to the season and the food was 5 star. Would definitely recommend to anyone who stops through Tamworth.

    « Tired and old »

Arrived for 1 night bed was clean and very comfortable but the rest of the room needs a total overhaul. Spa bath was black and worn, paint off walls and plaster patch ups everywhere. Carpet was old needed replacing and bench cupboards need replacing. Reception was welcoming but would not stay here again unless they did a total revamp.

« an ideal location on junction of Oxley and New England Highways. »

Arrived at end of very long day and a little travel weary. Two rooms in suite configuration awaited us. Well appointed and comfortable. Staff on desk efficient and pleasant. Capped off day with very nice dinner in their restaurant. The steak would have rivalled many in more upmarket dining halls. The staff serving on table were local and laid back but very helpful. No hesitation in recommending all, and will be back.

« unprofessional attitude.... front desk receptionist ........ »

The receptionist at the front desk ruined what was otherwise a pleasant stay at the so called sanctuary inn .....she was ill equiped to handle legitimate problems and was argumentative and rude when we tried to explain our concerns about the television not working in our room after a very long day on the road ...multiple excuses were fforcefully conveyed by the woman indicating that the problem was Foxtel & free to air facilities that had nothing to do with the motel. When we suggested that a compensation should be offered we were clearly told that the cost of $ 129 for a Sunday night was a very good deal & we should be satisfied with that ...we were told that no other guests had complained & our expectations were unreasonable. We were also told that the manager would discuss the situation with us at checkout time in the morning but there was only a junior on the desk & the manager was nowhere to be seen. The manner in which we were treated will influence our perception of the " Best & Western chain"....A classic case of bad attitude .....the room was pleasant enough& clean but really quite basic & dated for the price....certainly not a sanctuary! There are other options in Tamworth worthy of consideration On the positive side the meal in the restaurant was of excellent quality, big city prices-as was the wine however the meal was certainly a cut above the average....... And the waitress in the restaurant was a stark contrast to the receptionist...a delightful young lady, helpful and professional ....she had obviously learnt that to work in hospitality it is best to be hospitable.......

« Not sure about next time »

Tamworth motels are overpriced because they can regularly fill the house due to the many sporting events in the city. I struggled to convince myself that I received $139.00 of value for a standard room. Pros - the bed linen was fresh and the doona arrangement. The bathroom was very clean including the shower curtain. Internet was free and very handy for checking emails. Cons - The furniture is very old and needs to be updated. The bathroom décor also needed to be freshened up. The aircon was appalling - a very old and noisy wall unit which we had to use when we were desparate because there is no access to fresh air unless you open the door. We were there for 3 days. I asked the housekeeping lady if we could have more milk on the 2nd day and I am still waiting for the milk. A friendly reception depended on the person working at the time. Jay was lovely.

    « as someone once said... ' I'll be back ' »

A friend had recommended this hotel to me and they were spot on !! Greeted ever so pleasantly as soon as I entered the beautifully presented foyer, my 2 night stay certainly did not disappoint. My room was nicely renovated, clean, fresh and the bed and pillows super comfortable. Nice and quiet and had 2 undisturbed sleeps, a great shower also !! I decided to try the ' Lobby " restaurant on premises and must say, 5 stars probably isn't enough, sensational meals, entree, mains and dessert ( try the strawberries ) My compliments to the chef and also the restaurant staff, thoroughly enjoyed ! unfortunately I couldn't eat there on the second night due to work commitments... Breakfast also did not disappoint and Rachel is a lovely hostess with a very pleasant demeanour. The restaurant and foyer/ bar area is extremely welcoming and clean. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The staff are a delight from reception right through to the house keepers and the hotel manager, Evelyn , took the time to ask if my stay had been satisfactory as I was checking out..... it more than certainly was and I will definately be staying here again on my next trip to Tamworth. ThankYou Best Western Sanctuary Inn.

« The pleasant and friendly staff »

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at the Sanctuary Inn in Tamworth recently. I travel extensively for work and decided we would have night at this particular motel as I have heard good reports about the motel. I must say from the time we booked in to the time we left our stay was most enjoyable. The friendly greating we we received from the lady who was working at reception was very unusual to what I am usually treated by at most motels. She had a smile on her face, she was pleasant and she engaged with us The rooms were extremely clean and we'll appointed, they accommodated for my wife who was on crutches at the time, with a room close to reception and the restaurant. The food in the restaurant was what you would expect from a motel of this standard. Complements to the motel and its owners

    « Good »

I've stayed many times at the Sanctuary Inn and I've never been disappointed. The staff are friendly and the rooms are modern and clean. The restaurant is a little expensive but the food is delicious. The breakfast is also very good. Although its situated next to the highway there is very little traffic noise.

« Stayed on the way back home »

Picked this hotel by chance. The reception staff were very friendly and were able to fit me in, (Motel full that night), and I got a family room. The Motel looks like it is being updated and there are works going on. Room needs the work, but was comfortable and quiet.and with the Restaurant on site it makes it very convenient.

« Back again for another stay »

We have stayed here before but came back for a night as we were in town for a show. We had stayed here a while ago and I didn't think the place was anything special back then. We had a smaller room this time which seemed a bit newer. It was a nice enough room and seemed clean enough. The A/C made a funny noise all night but wasn't too bad. We had tea in the restaurant and oh my gosh..... that was the best food i've ever had! Very expensive for a family to eat there but it was so worth it. The staff in the restaurant were also very nice. I tried the wi-fi this time on the kids tablets and don't bother with it, its too slow and can only work on one device which just screams cheap and tight practices on behalf of motel. Overall it was a better stay this time and little things don't bother me too much but as always its the price that gets me, it could be a little cheaper.

« Reasonable value close to the town centre »

Comfortable bed, hot shower and fairly quiet in our room at the back of the property. The room fridge was full of mini-bar items and needed unloading to fit our own stuff in it. It might be meant as a convenience but it makes it a nuisance if you actually wish to use it for yourself. The trees are nice but are tearing up the kerbing so mind your car doors.

« Poor room but nice restaurant »

This is one of a number of Best Western motels in Tamworth so make sure, when you book, that you choose correctly. Some are on the Sydney side of Tamworth, this one is on the main Armidale Road and, unfortunately is located on a busy intersection - the main highway to Queensland. If your room is on the highway side it is very noisy, great if you like the sound of compression braking and heavy vehicles but this can make sleep difficult. Great if you are a truck-spotter. Nineteen big rigs in 20 minutes although the frequency reduces as the night goes on. The block of rooms I was staying for some nights was very, very tired and, frankly, a little dirty. The room was consistent with a 1970s style modest motel room. I suspect it had been some weeks since the carpet was vacuumed. Forensics, I feel sure, would have a field day. Parking for my room was a little distance away from the room. The bathroom was of fair size but again broken tiles and a poor shower recess detracted from the comfort. Internet access is supposed to be free WiFi but I found it to be very flakey and resorted to my 4G on my iPad - quicker and more reliable. Having said that I have stayed for work in a newer room and set back from the highway which was considerably quieter. The staff are excellent and the on site restaurant (The Lobby Restaurant and Bar) very pleasant with quality offerings and a good wine list at reasonable prices. There are better accommodation options in this pleasant rural city but the restaurant is worth a visit.

« Great Place to Stay »

Stayed with friends for 1 night on our way to Mudgee. Having to book about 10 rooms the experience was very easy with no problems at all. The staff are very friendly and professional. We had a BBQ in the pool area which was clean and tidy. We all had breakfast which was of a high standard and very enjoyable. This motel is a must stay if visiting Tamworth.

« Not so family friendly »

Our your child was ill with a respiratory issue and we had the smell of cigarette smoke coming through a vent in our room. When it was reported to staff they tried to say it must have been the smell of the hotel fireplace which it wasn't & would not entertain the fact that it was cigarettes. The hotel restaurant prices were also not family friendly. On the plus side, the family rooms were large.

    « Disappointing »

We only stayed overnight in the Sanctuary and we have stayed they before. Unfortunately even though our room was non smoking the bin for the smokers had been placed under the awning outside our bathroom window. When the exhaust fan was put on it drew the smoke(as there was a mesh vent) in through the window and into the room. At 9.30 at night we felt we were sitting in a room with a smoker. The tariff for the room was high and although the room was very clean we could smell the smoke all night. Both my husband and I are non smokers and were exhausted as we had traveled from Brisbane so it was very disappointing. I hope the Sanctuary can address this issue for the future.

    « Expensive night »

Stayed 1 night here, cost us $135.00, room was not up to date, floor needed repairing & some of the tiles were off. The aircon was noisy & rattled. Food was overpriced. Everytime you opened the door it hit the fridge.

« Great place to stay »

We stayed there overnight on Friday the 5th September. We had a Queen Spa Suite. We had some minor issues with the card to get into the room but the staff were excellent doing everything they could to fix the problem which required a couple of new cards but everything worked out well in the end. We had breakfast there and it was great, good menu and I loved the touch of a quick phone call letting us know the meals were on the way to our room, just in case we over slept. Check out was fast and easy staff made our stay so enjoyable we will be back again when we stay in Tamworth
