    « My Son' s Wedding »

Amazing day & venue for a fantastic Wedding . Sheila & all the wonderful staff at the hotel made everyone very welcome & could not have done anymore than they did before, during & after the wonderful service. I can honestly recommend that every start to married life should start at this amazing & friendly hotel. I now consider the Strathaven staff all good friends. Thank you all for everthing.

    « Wedding venue »

We, my wife and I spent a most comfortable stay at this hotel whilst attending one of my nephews' wedding. Our stay was very enjoyable, the staff and hotel was/were so amenable we could do nothing else but enjoy our stay there. The beds are really comfortable, the food was perfect, the wine....flowed.

    « A 3 star hotel with a 5 star service! »

Our wedding venue cancelled 3 weeks before our big day. After trying various venues, my husband's boss suggested the Strathaven hotel as he got married there 25 years ago. He called and we couldn't believe our luck they had the date available. That Saturday we went and spoke to most wonderful lady Sheila (co-owner with her brother Malcolm.) She basically re-organised our wedding for us, put our minds completely at ease and gave us the most spectacular wedding day. We attended for lunch a few times before the wedding and all the staff said hello and remembered us week after week. They really do go out their way to make your visit/stay comfortable. Sheila said at the time "a 3 star hotel with a 4 star service." I disagree and say a 5 star service! A number of our guests stayed at the hotel that nice and complimented everything from the breakfast to the immaculate grounds outside. Thank you so much again to Sheila, Malcolm and all the staff at the wonderful Strathaven hotel. We are looking forward to coming back for a visit!

    « Ladies who lunch »

Another lovely day at the Strathaven Hotel. Really enjoyed the cookery demonstration and the meal was very good indeed. As always, the craft stalls and fashion show were fun, The hotel is a really fine building with great staff who are friendly, professional and helpful. Well done!

    « 5* except breakfast »

Stayed for business after being dissatisfied with my usual hotel in the area. I will now change to this as my hotel of choice in the area. I was greeted by the friendliest staff I have found in any hotel. The food is of excellent quality. The manager/owner was bubbly and vibrant with time to chat and accommodate you, not just leave it to the rest of the staff, which was a refreshing change. There is ample parking right by the door. Adequate WiFi coverage to use streaming services. Several lounge areas. The only let down was the breakfast staff were not of the standard of the main staff. However I will definitely return.

    « Classic Scottish »

Grand old house run by family under the ownership of Best Western. Most welcoming introduction to this hotel than any I have ever encountered. Comfortable room excellent modernised facilities. Great value for money. Great breakfast with all variations catered for. Almost certain to return. Steve & Wilma.

« Sack the breakfast chef!!! »

Hotel is well used. Room 7 was clean but dated, but can live with that. Went to breakfast, toast was brought to table with coffee, 20 mins later the fulll Scottish, over cooked breakfast came out, it had scrambled egg, I had ordered fried. The waitress took it away and brought it back with fried. The only edible thing was one sausage and cold toast. The square sausage was overlooked and hard. The bacon rashers hadn't been separated prior to cooking, was over cooked, salty and hard. The potato scone and mushrooms had been deep fried. When we checked out the receptionist was totally disinterested. Didn't ask if we had a good stay, just gave us the receipt for £100 room...

    « Week end away »

Found the hotel overpriced and our room was dirty, will not be going back! The service in the restaurant was very slow and poor. There was plenty to chose from on the menus and the breakfast was good. The grounds where very nice, plenty of parking !

« Very enjoyable end to our Scottish tour »

Having enjoyed the previous 10 nights touring Scotland, we decided to stay on for an extra two nights. As it was the Friday prior to August Bank Holiday weekend, we were struggling to find anywhere in the area in which we found ourselves. However, having stayed at several Best Western hotels in the past, we fortunately had the BW helpline number with us, and after a brief phone call around 5pm the very efficient staff advised us that the Strathaven Hotel (around 30 minutes from where we were) had one room available due to a late cancellation, and they immediately booked us in for two nights. We found the hotel in a quiet and peaceful woodland location on the Northern outskirts of the town. We were shown to Room 17, which was a disappointingly long walk up and down many stairs, only to find ourselves on the ground floor at the back of the hotel. We did however soon discover a fire door which allowed us access to reception, bar, restaurant and car park without having to use the stairs again ! Our room was fine, the bathroom was on the small side but had a bath and shower and adequate storage facilities. The hotel has a lovely garden area with outside seating. We ate at the hotel both nights, enjoying lovely and tasty evening meals from the bar menu, obviously prepared by an excellent chef. Breakfast was also very good, everything being cooked to order. On the Saturday evening a wedding reception was taking place in the hotel, but we did not experience any disruption from this, and everyone attending appeared to be enjoying their day. Throughout our stay all of the staff we encountered were very pleasant and helpful, as were locals who frequented the bar and dining area during our visit, being more than happy to talk to us and impart local information. Over the Bank Holiday weekend there was a Hot Air Balloon Festival taking place in the town's park. Many of the competitors were staying at the hotel, and we were very pleased to talk to us about their hobby. The only slight downside is that the walk down into the town centre takes approximately 30 minutes.

    « Short business stay »

I needed a hotel for a one night stop over, close to Larkhall. The hotel needs updating. The room was small, including the single bed that was on wheels... The bathroom had been updated and was very nice. I also had dinner, which was the Chef special, mixed grill. I have to say that it was terrible, no spices or flavoring at all.

« stay at Best Western Strathhaven hotel »

stayed here twice, very nice place, I can recommend to anyone wanting to stay in the area, very convenient for Business in the East Kilbride general region, looking for nice quiet hotel with good honest service and clean rooms, all very pleasant and friendly. I stay at Best Western hotels a lot and they are generally very good but this one is just a regular 3 star but stands out from the rest, can't fault it.

    « Sunday »

Arranged to meet a friend here for lunch. Have visited before but not for a while. Driving in I thought to myself "why did I suggest here?" When I have been here before it is with my mum who is in her eighties. My memory is that this is the normal age group for Sunday lunch 65+. My memory was not wrong. Hotel is a bit dated and staid. The food was fine. Average I would say. Ok as a meeting point for a quick bite to eat as long as you don't have high expectations. A bit frumpy. I will no doubt go back - with my mum.

    « Decent find! »

Building is gorgeous from outside, it stands out! Also the garden is nice to sit in. Room was on the small side bit for one night didn't cause a problem! Shower could maybe use an upgrade and some attention but all clean and well! Food in restaurant tasty and well presented! You need to review sat nav address though as it takes you into the housing estate behind which isn't obvious

« Friendly staff, some housekeeping issues »

Was really pleased with the Clubcard option as it significantly reduced the cost, meaning staying over for our friends' Anniversary party was feasible and affordable. Staff in the hotel were hugely friendly and helpful and the room itself was beautiful, with a nice balance of traditional charm and modern conveniences. The bathroom was very modern but had a few issues - a dirty towel had been left on the back of the door when we arrived and the sink would only drain if you stood pressing on the plunger which controls the plug. Breakfast was pleasant but a little dried out.

    « Lunchtime ripoff »

My daughter and I met at the hotel for lunch,I had a Becks lager and she had an extremely small lime and soda. We opted to sit outside, the miserable waitress informed us that she could not lift our drinks outside,we were charged £9.00 for these 2 drinks! We ordered house salad, which took ages to arrive,in between times,we were never asked if we wanted another drink. My daughter asked for smoked salmon in the salad for which she was charged £4.00 extra, the waitress did not consult us on this, when my daughter queried this, the waitress stormed off and said I'll just pay for it myself then! The staff were more interested in chatting at the bar than giving us our glasses of water,we had to fetch them ourselves! Certainly will not be returning, such a pity as the venue is very picturesque.

    « Average Minus »

Had lunch here some weeks ago after an absence of some years. While the food was relatively ok, the service was dreadfully slow and the attitude of the waiting staff left a lot to be desired. It requires a much better effort.

« Hotel with the warmest welcome and the friendliest staff »

This hotel has very welcoming, friendly and helpful staff - the best my husband and I have come across on our travels. The breakfast is great and the evening meals in the bar are excellent and good value for money. Plenty of parking available. The hotel would benefit from some refurbishment, but this is an observation, not a criticism.

    « Lovely hotel »

Stayed here for an overnight with my husband. Room was lovely, staff could not do enough for you and they way surpassed any hotel staff I have encountered in UK. Had dinner which was lovely. Breakfast the next morning was also good. If I am honest the only down side was my husbands pudding. The bread and butter pudding was not great, the custard had split and the bread had not soaked for long enough, however the hotel was heaving with a wedding in full swing. Definitely don't pass on this wee gem in Strathaven. I am sure the pudding was just a one of!

    « Weekend Family Function »

This hotel was recommended to us for a wedding reception for our daughter and new son-in law with family members travelling from overseas and UK to join in the celebrations. The building and grounds provided a wonderful setting and the staff could not do enough for us all. A family run hotel with brother and sister owners at the helm, they inspired a team spirit in their staff that provided guests with a very friendly and homely atmosphere. The hotel provided the use of the West Lounge fo family meet and greet the evening prior to the reception and again on the day. This provided us all with the means to have some private time with the bride & groom and take pictures indoors and then outdoors in the gardens that are manicured. The antique red phone box was in good condition allowing us all to take cute photos. The village of Strathaven we found very friendly in the shops, tea rooms and in the manicured parks. The hotel function room was supremely set and we had our own musicians that had use of the stage. The owners worked with us to tailor the package to meet the individual needs and wants of our party. The main meal with steak, salmon, chicken and vegetarian dishes was exceptional well presented and the wine was of very good quality. The wedding reception was a blast and lasted well into the wee hours. There is a good selection of breakfast dishes and overall the food in this wee hotel was superb. The staff never ever hurried guests whether from departure of rooms or after breakfast indeed offered to stay and enjoy the setting with coffee till we were ready for our next journey. A home from home. The whole group were extremely happy with the hotel, food and setting and we can only say a big thank you to the owners and staff for a wonderful stay in Strathaven.

« Same family and quality service as 20 years ago »

I used to stay at the Strathaven years ago, two or three times a week. Staff were always attentive, food was always varied and high quality and the rooms (especially beds and showers) were very comfortable... First time back after 20 years and it's exactly the same high quality service.... a beautiful location too.

    « Wedding Reception »

We held a wedding reception at Strathaven Hotel and cannot praise this hotel enough. Sheila, Malcolm and the staff went above and beyond in the level of preparation, customer service and follow through. Sheila was extremely helpful in providing advice and guidance in booking and planning the event for 55 guests, including booking accommodation. Sheila and the staff were a pleasure to deal with and no detail was too small or too much effort. The food served at the wedding reception was exceptional. We opted for providing three choices for the main meal (medallions of beef, salmon and veggie option). The level of service provided for the event, as well as a meet and greet on the Friday night was excellent. Sheila and Malcolm and the staff could not do enough to ensure the wedding reception was a fantastic event. Everyone was pleased with their accommodation and our guests that also participated in breakfasts, lunches and evening meals, commented that the food was excellent. The hotel was extremely clean and is in a very good location for guests to enjoy the surrounding areas. A big thank you to the Strathaven Hotel and staff and we highly recommend this hotel.

    « great hotel... »

Great reception after a 5 hrs drive. Receptionist extremely helpful. Bedroom fabulous, toiletries good quality and variety. Breakfast freshly cooked and great buffet on the continental too. Had evening meal in restaurant great deal and thoroughly good fokd

« A little gem tucked away from the road »

What a delight to arrive to such a friendly welcome; all the staff were pleasant snd cheerful. We were shown a short cut to our room by the reception staff with detailed explanations of an alternative route that we opted not to be shown. The menu was extensive and allergens clearly marked, making it easy to select dinner. The room was clean, with comfy beds and plenty of toiletries on hand. We did have a disturbed night as some of the wedding guests were (understandably) in good spirits. Breakfast was a buffet with a wide range of cooked items prepared to order and personal preference. The only issue was that the gluten free bread was rancid and there was no alternatives. However, I had so many sincere apologies that I would happily stay again.

    « Quiet night. »

Quiet night in this lovely hotel although our room was small and in need of modernisation. Very friendly welcome, the lady at reception could not have helped us more when we arrived too early. Car park. Good wi fi.

    « Brill! »

Excellent service, food, amenities, lovely room and surroundings, gardens etc. Helpful staff re disabilities and anything extra needed. An all round super experience despite it being for only one night.

    « Nice Hotel »

Stayed in this hotel after working a night shift, staff were nice and the rooms were very nice too, they have breakfast available and a mini bar in the rooms, the hotel grounds are quite nice, would recommend staying here lovely place.......

    « Great friendly hotel »

Friendly and helpful staff. Bedrooms clean and smart. Comfortable bed , Free internet and lots of free parking. Convenient location to visit Glasgow and lots of small towns within a 40 minute drive. Good location. Good breakfast.

« Very friendly and relaxing hotel »

The hotel staff are very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good and plentiful. Lots of parking space in the grounds. The bed was very comfortable and the bedroom was adequate. The location is very convenient for Glasgow and lots of small local towns to visit. Only about 10/15 minutes drive from the motorway. The hotel was well kept and clean. Free wifi is also available

    « Best ever »

Can't rate this any higher , place has such a homely feel dinners where awesome and the staff couldn't do enough for you if we ever come back to Scotland we will definitely be staying here again would like to move in here nothing was to much trouble and the township is lovely as well

« Very nice hotel to stay »

Everything was as expected - staff even went to lengths to squeeze another bed in the room for a colleague who'd forgotten to book anything in the area, but as ColdPlay (band) were playing Glasgow, everywhere in a 40 mile radius was fully booked. They could have just said no, but they went out their way to accommodate their needs. I have already recommended this hotel to work colleagues. The place has character which is a nice break from the usual hum drum budget hotels we have to stay in on business trips. Thanks Strathaven!!

« Lovely place to stay »

I stayed here for two nights and only had one set of meals. The evening set 3 course meal was okay but the first 2 plates quite greasy and dripping with oil or butter. Starter (mushrooms and pesto) main meal (spaghetti). I couldn't eat half of it because of the grease. Desert was Brownie and ice cream. Loved it. I stayed in a single room which was really small but comfortable. There was only just enough room to walk around the bed. I didn't even realise the bathroom had a sink until I closed the door. Very small. Breakfast was lovely, I had eggs and mushrooms on both mornings and couldn't fault it. Delicious. There were no disturbances at all, the staff are very nice and the hotel is located in a lovely place. I'll definitely go back when I'm working there again. I'll just choose a bigger room. ??????

    « Sportsmanship dinner »

Me and the boys went here on Friday 3rd of June the food was amazing the sirloin of beef melted in the mouth I even was a little cheeky and asked for extra yorky pudding which was promptly brought to my table nothing seemed to be of trouble also to note the presentation of the desserts for 130 plus people was amazing keep it up strathaven hotel can't wait till the next night. My only negative is the price of the drink far to expensive for a local hotel.

« Nice Location in lovely little market town »

We were a group of 15 booked in for a dinner before we went to a play in the town. The hotel had given us a menu before hand and asked us to make our choice. Five of us had requested haddock but there was none to be had when we arrived. My choice was ham and peach salad I am still looking for the peaches! The whole meal was distasteful. The staff were very polite , friendly and apologies. Not to be recommended

    « Gone downhill »

Sad to say that poor slow service and menu choices will encourage us to go elsewhere in the future. This was always our go to place for a bar supper a drink and a chat. Not anymore unless I've read that it's improved

    « Lovely hotel , good stopover heading north/south »

Stayed one night while travelling to the Highlands. Well located about 5 miles off the motorway .Checking in easy and welcoming unusual nowadays, Yvonne behind the desk was knowledgeable about the area and made sure that we knew what the hotel had to offer. We had a drink on the lawn outside in the evening sun and enjoyed a lovely meal in the pub area of the hotel. Breakfast great , staff great and more importantly for the other half , the wi-fi great too ! Would definitely stay again and it's worthwhile taking an evening stroll (about 15 minutes)to the town.

    « Dinner »

My wife and I went for a meal to the Strathaven Hotel. As I am coeliac I have to be careful what I eat and mustn't eat anything containing gluten eg food that contains wheat, barley, rye or oats.Anyone who is coeliac should be careful when ordering anything from the menu at this hotel as some things carrying the GF symbol are NOT gluten free.

    « Lunch »

Called in for lunch, nothing wrong with waitresses, but after 40 minutes waiting, the food was poorly presented, unappetizing and amateurish. Where was the Savoy cabbage? Steak and Ale pie quite good, accompanied by microwaved vegetables (small portion) and overcooked chips. Could do better.

    « Friends wedding »

A pleasant hotel parts are tired looking that a lick of paint especially in the bedrooms could sort out. Very comfortable bed good size bedroom. Very clean. Excellent staff service and food. Couldn't do enough for you. Lovely wedding venue

    « Enjoyable bar supper »

Enjoyed an evening meal in the East lounge of the Strathavon hotel. The hotel staff are very friendly and welcoming no booking for this lounge just turn up and be seated. The food is excellent and reasonably priced, the waitresses serving you can't do enough for you. Parking is ample but may be crowded if a function is on. Will definitely be back.

    « 02 April 2016 »

Very friendly and great stay would recommend to anyone, clean, great food, and the staff are so friendly and great location for a little break. The reception staff are second to none the girl is bright, friendly, polite and a asset to the strathaven hotel, thanks and we will be back George & Samantha

« Poor quality bar meal and customer service »

Let me begin by saying that the service from the waiter and waitress was faultless but everything else about our meal out was very disappointing. I ordered haddock in batter. I was given a very small piece of fish which was not hot enough, the batter had no crunch to it and there were not many chips especially given the size of the fish. I asked for extra chips which arrived as my meal was finished. My husband ordered smoked haddock and ham with mash. He took a few bites and then asked if I thought the fish was cooked. I could see that a part of the fish was translucent and did not flake when pressed with a fork. The mash was solid as if it had been frozen and not cooked thoroughly. The waitress offered to replace it and by the time it was I had finished my meal. This time the fish was properly cooked and I could smell the aroma of the smoked fish which I hadn't before. The cheese was now identifiable because the temperature had melted it. We went to pay the bill at reception and said how disappointed we were that one meal was undercooked and had to be returned and the other was the worst battered fish and chips I have ever had. Into the bargain, while eating out we ate our meals separately. The manageress overheard and intervened. She challenged my husband on how much of the fish he had eaten without appreciating that the fish was not cooked thoroughly and that it was unacceptable for any part to be raw. She dismissed the soggy batter by saying the batter was made fresh each day. I am sure it is. My issue was not about the freshness of the batter mix but about how the fish was prepared and served. She had no interest in the fact the meal was not hot. I was not put off returning to the hotel by a bad meal....bad practice but things happen. I have been put off however by a lack of understanding about why good customer service by the management is important. We were not charged for one main course but in all honesty neither meal was worth paying for and the management should have approached us to apologise unreservedly.

    « I ordered haddock not sushi !! »

Was not going to put review on but the attitude of the manageress changed my mind. The bar meal ,smoked haddock and ham, arrived looking more like a generous starter rather than a main. I started with the tail end , being thinner it was cooked but the rest was undercooked. The mash potato was hard , not cooked thoroughly from frozen. I ( for the second time in my life) returned a meal. When the second meal arrived you could see the steam coming from it , much more like the standard we had been used to over the 20+ years we have been going there. My wife's had haddock and chips. The Batter was soggy and you could nearly count the chips on one hand! She asked for some more. So a nice night out together ended with us eating our meals separately. Any other restaurant would have approached us at the end to apologise , not here. They wanted to charge us the full price. Enter the manageress who claimed I had eaten half the meal before returning it. It is obvious that she must have been absent when her class did fractions. But whether I'd eaten 1/4 or 62/64 it had been undercooked. Rather than trying to defend the poor quality of the meal she should have accepted that they got it wrong. Maybe a refresher course on customer service might not go amiss. Reluctantly we were given one course gratis . It was a hard choice, the soggy haddock or the sushi version ! Oh and we were charged for the extra chips that were used to fill the vast tract of emptiness on my wife's plate. So our 20 year love affair with the Strathaven Hotel has ended. It's such a shame that they do not see the link between profit and customer satisfaction.

    « Superb »

We were very pleasantly surprised by the overall quality of this hotel From the well kept grounds, public areas and bedrooms - everything was very clean. Our room (room 3) was a bit small but was very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Service from all staff was also excellent throughout our stay The hotel is an easy 20 minutes walk into Strathaven (or around £3 for a taxi but make sure you book as there are not many)

    « Amazing. »

Stayed overnight in the straven hotel staff so nice dinner great breakfast lovely to would go back and stay again .Found the hotel easy to get to from glasgow and will be telling my friends to try the hotel to .

    « Overnight Stay »

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay in this hotel while attending a party locally. A special mention must go to all the friendly staff who are a credit to the hotel, nothing seemed too much trouble for them, even booking a taxi to take us to the party. Great Scottish breakfast too. Definitely well worth a visit.

    « Excellent Staff »

Loved our wee groupon overnight here food was fabulous. Room was lovely and the staff were the best I've encountered at any hotel. Pleasant helpful and cheery. Only thing that I can moan about is the cost of the drinks, large glass of wine and bottle of local beer was £1, ouch?? but we headed down to a lovely local pub in Strathaven called the Weavers and had a few drinks there.

    « The whole package »

This is a family run hotel. We have been many times whether it's 'Ladies who lunch', Jean Armour Evening, weddings or just to eat you are greeted and treated very well. The food is great and the staff are efficient and attentive. Weddings are a speciality where not only the bride feels special but the guests do too.i would recommend this hotel for people visiting the area or holidaying in scotland.

    « Not good »

We have been eating at The Strathaven Hotel for many years and always enjoyed their food. Went this evening and food was awful. Combo starter was either burnt or stone cold, main courses certainly neither looked nor tasted fresh. The staff are helpful and polite and we were given refund however I told the young lady at reception we would not be returning. Sad state of affairs as bar meals previously were something to look forward to. Not now!!!

    « Friendly Staff »

Firstly, I must commend the friendly helpful staff at this hotel, everyone we encountered couldn't have been nicer. A very clean well kept traditional building. The rooms were adequate for a short stay, but a bit cramped for more than 2 nights. The bathroom had recently been refurbished and was very nice. Our meal was nice, but could have been better. The lasagne was mostly pasta, with very little mince, the steak balmoral was warm, but not hot. The wine is around £20 a bottle. I was also overcharged on my final bill, however, when I phoned the hotel, it was quickly rectified.

    « Groupon deal »

Faultless very nice clean hotel, staff excellent very warm and friendly, room very clean and well presented had a lovely meal freshly cooked, full Scottish breakfast is highly recommended, lovely grounds will definetly visit again

    « Great overnight stay »

4 of us booked overnight dinner, bed and breakfast here Arrived and booked in efficiently , Breast Cancer Charity event was arranged in hotel, superb function room was set up Very friendly hostess allowed us to see venue We went for dinner and after short wait shown to table, slightly long wait for order to be taken ( maybe due to busy time) Wine ,water and starters arrived in acceptable time and enjoyed by all Mains also good, salmon, haddock, steak en croute, unfortunately lasagne had to be second choice for one as first choice sold out All in food very good Breakfast good choice of juices, cereals etc then good breakfast plates Staff excellent, friendly and efficient We will recommend and return when possble

    « Can't fault »

Cannot fault our experience at all. Staff very friendly from beginning to end. Food of good quality and good value for money. Nice and relaxing time. Our room was very good as well and the wifi connection was excellent.

    « A Hidden Gem »

Just returned from a Groupon DB&B offer full of praise for this hotel. Why have I never heard of it before. From walking in the front door, being cheerfully greeted by the receptionist to every member of staff we met, they were exceptional. Friendly, obliging, and helpful. The decor of the hotel its self is clean and pleasing to the eye in every room. We would hopefully love to go back one day.

« beautiful hotel for valentines. »

The hotel is set in it's own grounds, very picturesque and peaceful.A very warm welcome and super freindly staff. The room was tastefully decorated, warm and welcoming.Comfortable bed, super shower and even a minibar. The food was delicious and inexpensive.10/10 Strathavon, will definately be going back.

    « Lunch what a disappointment »

Took one of my oldest friends there today for lunch at it is her 80th birthday a spritly 80 I may add checked out the menu before we went everything looked good even though we had read mixed reviews plus me and my husband have been looking for somewhere else a wee bit up market as we like to eat out....and my friend and her husband love lunches eating out at least once a week all I can say is will never be back we arrived to a very nice setting ordered our food then first course came there mixed platter all looked great and was quite tasty then there it was the big brown hair attached to the food (we are both blond) sent it back they did apologise and offer to bring another one but by then the food was and chips although it appeared to be fresh fish the batter was soggy the chips were from a frozen verity I mean at £11 you would thing someone could peel a tattie and not very well cooked left most of it only thing that was any good was the wine but certainly not worth the £19 they charged for it which was one of the cheapest on the menu we didn't bother with the coffee even though they manage to add a charge for coffe to the bill as we thought we had wasted enough money on what should have been a lovely lunch estimated loss of income to this establishment in future business £70 a month from me and my Hubble and my friend and Hubble a good lunch cost once a fortnight plus won't be recommend to any of my all I can say is what a disappointment as my friend won't turn 80 again ....

« Spoiled by dreadful food! »

The Strathaven hotel is, and always has been, a lovely building The rooms are good and the staff extremely pleasant and helpful. They do however have a major problem with the chef. The dinner we had when we stayed was absolutely dreadful. It's difficult to make Haggis tasteless, but they managed it! CHicken liver pate was a mousse - not a pate, again with very little flavour. My husband had steak which he said was dry and tough. Shame really, because apart from the food it's a very nice hotel.

    « Groupon Deal »

Booked an overnight groupon deal consisting of B&B glass of prosecco each on arrival and a £10 voucher each towards evening meal £59..could not fault a thing..staff all lovely friendly and is excellent dinner and breakfast amazing..nice cozy room with comfortable bed and pillows..the only gripe was the rubber mat for the bath looked like it could be renewed we didn't use it I would have hated to put my feet on it..all in all a lovely hotel and would recommend

    « Lovely Hotel »

This was a last minute booking for the one night. A nice clean hotel with welcoming staff. Rooms nice but quite cold. Good food in the Restaurant, although not a lot of variety on the menu. The only downside we had was there was no ATM and the bar staff did not accept card payments to offer cash back.

« Last minute booking when stranded due to snow »

Had to book last minute last night when had an accident and then couldn't be recovered due to the snow till this morning. Staff were great, food was fantastic and I had a great room. Breakfast was really nice, freshly cooked and set me up for a difficult day. Thank you for looking after me in my 'hour of need', drying out my jackets, getting me a phone charger and just being genuinely nice guys.

    « 3rd visit »

This was a pensioners Christmas dinner night out, food good, staff very good(especially as they were very young) the entertainment was good, very well organised, all in all a good night was had by all.

« Nice people, clean and welcoming »

Again a last minute booking, didn't know what to really expect. Used trip advisor as normal to assess prior to booking. Booked 1 hour prior to arriving, meal good value and nice quality, staff very accommodating

    « Full of character »

This hotel is in lovely grounds and the exterior when you arrive is impressive. I stayed on a single room which was smaller than the usual singles I stay in and the decor was s but tired, but for what I needed it was ok. The restaurant was very nice, food was excellent and the staff were very very friendly in there. Breakfast was good with a wide selection, again the staff in there ware very friendly and helpful.

    « Ladies Fundraising Lunch »

Yet again another excellent Ladies Lunch at The Strathaven Hotel. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. The 3 course lunch was excellent from the soup starter to the delicious meringue dessert. Very good value for money. A lovely and pleasant afternoon at The Strathaven Hotel. Well done.

« Bar Meal back up in standard again. Good news »

My Mum and I had been going here on every visit I paid to her since Dad died 6 years ago. That was till 2014 when we had couple of poor meals and went elsewhere. We tried again yesterday Tuesday 17th and I am pleased to report things have changed for the better. Firstly the bar has been decorated and the fire was lit. Staff are still the same friendly and helpful folks. But food is much better, presented on nice new crockery too. The food looks cared for and is arranged on the plate so it looks appetising when it arrives. I had steak and ale pie with veg and swapped mash for chips. Full.of flavour meat and sauce, dark and rich. Nice pastry. Mum had pan roasted chicken on beetroot with mash. Both meals good food, well cooked and well presented. 10/10 to whoever is cooking in the kitchen on Tuesday night. Pleased to say I would recommend it now once again. Hope the review is helpful. Stuart

    « Great nights stay »

Stayed here for one night whilst on business in the area, service, food and general overall friendly atmosphere made the visit. A little out of the way, but don't let that put you off its worth the effort.

    « Fab hospitality »

Stayed for a couple of nights for work. Lovely hotel with great staff. Very friendly and luckily for us they also had various stalls selling lots of great items. Breakfast is very good. Haddock and poached eggs or a full Scottish plus all the normal fruit, cereals etc. Dinner again is excellent and has a la carte or a smaller 2 or 3 course menu reasonably priced. Would definitely stay again!!

    « Sister's wedding »

I cannot praise them highly enough, from the moment we checked in to the moment we left they were amazing. The entire staff from Sheila and Malcolm down went the extra mile to make sure the weekend went smoothly. From the warm welcome when we got there, to Shelia who ran around the hotel to open the fire doors to let my grandma who is in a wheelchair into the ground floor rooms on more than one occasion, to the staff who were smiling when we got up at 7am for breakfast( the bride and bridesmaids got it early, the boys later) and the night staff still smiling when the last of us went to bed at 4am. Sheila was waiting in reception to wave us off to church on the Saturday and did not move from the door from the first arrivals back to the moment the bride and groom arrived. As a previous reviewer put they took all the stress out of the day. The meal was fantastic and the staff were discreet but always managed to be there anytime anyone needed a top up of food or drink. Everyone commented on how good the meal was and how attentive the staff were. In fact I cannot complain about any of the meals we had. They were all good. The rooms were comfortable and well supplied. We were in the ground floor rooms which looked over the gardens and were warm but not too warm. One warning is if you are not too good on your feet maybe ask for a ground floor room as climbing to the top floor is a bit of a slog with bags. I would like to thank all the staff for all your hard work over the weekend .You really made the wedding such a fantastic, stress free event that all we needed to do was enjoy.

    « Very Good »

One night stay on business travel. Lovely welcome, comfortable last.. a window in a hotel that opens properly, didn't wake up with the "hotel blocked nose syndrome", wonderful. Staff in all areas of the hotel were great, couldn't do enough for you. I soappreciated the glass cleaner offered to wipe my windscreen down after going through a mass of mozzie so on the way up. All I asked for was some water and some kitchen towel, top service. Evening meal and breakfast were excellent, my only comment would be a request for stronger coffee, but that's my personal taste. My colleague was blown away with the selection of bottle real ale beers. Top rate well done all, will be with you again.

« I was driving home from being down south when »

I wanted to get a bite to eat and catch up on emails, I got recommended to stop off here before I set off again on the last hour of my journey before I get home. I had the steak pie it was ok nothing to rave about but I was very disappointed in the service, I was served by an old lady who was very rude and just wanted to be left alone when I asked her for a drink or the bill, don't know if I will return with staff like that!

    « Home from home »

This is probably my favourite Best Western hotel in the UK. I stay here every year for several nights on business and it is like a home from home. Friendly, relaxed atmosphere especially in the bar (which is, in reality, the restaurant where most people eat). With the arrival of a new chef, the food really sets off the experience of staying here. The staff were as helpful as ever here. If this food was available in London or Surrey, the pace would be packed - and it would probably be much more pricey too. The location is great for breaking a journey just south of Glasgow.

    « Excellent responsive management »

While attending a poignant funeral tea at the Strathaven Hotel it was very noticeable how the management and staff did an excellent job in ensuring everything ran smoothly. All credit to the young waiting staff who genuinely seemed to enjoy being of service. Management seemed to have created a good working environment.

    « Disappointing bar meal »

Food mediocre quality at Hotel prices I did not stay in hotel only went for meal, this is one we have used in past when visiting family in area and although surroundings as we remembered food quality not so good.
