"Nice hotel in Shallotte, NC"

We were with our High School team, who were competing at a local event the next day. I worked with Joanne on setting up our reservation and , she did a wonderful job from setting up the reservations, making sure the rooms were ready to go. All the staff we encountered were helpful, friendly and professional. Quiet and well maintained hotel, right off 17, with plenty of restaurants near by. Rooms are standard, but well maintained and in excellent condition. Wi-Fi is fast and stable. We would like the thank the entire team, especially Joanne, for making our stay comfortable. We will return next year.

Front desk was great. Rooms were clean and bed were comfortable. It was a quiet hotel except for the other guests being noisy in the hall. Breakfast was good but limited. But certainly enough to at least start your day.

We arrived tired and weary and were given a room on the ground floor. When you walk down that hall you are hit with a chemical fragrance with an underlying Cat Pee like odor. Also the rug in the first floor corridor is poorly laid and is a high fall risk. Then you enter the room and are hit with musty, mildew. We were tired and slept in that room the first night. The next morning I went to the front desk and asked to be moved. The woman at the front desk was very sweet and offered to show me every empty room in the building. The smell went throughout the building but got less offensive the higher you went. We were able to open our window on the third floor which helped to air it out a bit. First floor windows do not open. Our third floor room was much smaller than the room that we were in the first night. No place for storage, no closet, no room safe. The breakfast is all carbs. Waffles, Bagels, Cereal, muffins.

The room was tiny. No storage. Hard to move around. Reminded me of the old Microtels except with a much higher price. Almost 200.00 a night for a tiny box of a room. Best Western should be embarrassed to claim this place. Breakfast area was a joke. 4 tables and about 30 people. Food selection was very poor.

We had two different rooms because the first one smelled so bad. The second room smelled OK when we first entered it out it would only be eliminated if the room was kept really freezing the air conditioning unit rattles constantly I can't say the room was very clean the cleaning stuff didn't speak any English show everything I asked for they didn't understand that we're not going back. We've been there twice for tonight and we're done.

The place is gross. The carpet down the hallway bubbled up and was unsafe. The keys to the doors never worked. The other guests looked scary...The food was less than desirable. We left early. The rooms are very small. Would be ok for two people but not a family of four going to the beach. No where to hang clothes to dry. Barely working wifi. There are better places in the area.

Room was very clean. Staff very friendly. Great location between Myrtle and Wilmington. Plenty of great restaurants nearby. Most guests were families and older couples. Nothing loud here and we didn't encounter any drunks or other stupid things. We thought the price was a bit high for its location. We would stay there again.

Check in was nice, the people working were very friendly and helpful. My room was dirty. The surfaces were sticky and had crumbs on them. My top sheet was stained. The tub had mildew in it. It was clear that no one sweeps under furniture. I moved a block ottoman and it was filthy underneath. The bed was really comfortable.

All okay, but rude mouthy staff---never found this at other motels. If you ask too many questions or about prices--you will get a nasty response. Unfriendly--loud mouth at the front desk. Asked about pricing and was snapped at when asking about discounts.

One of the worst stays that we have ever had. Besides the hotel being disgustingly dirty and in need to renovations; the manager was a complete nasty individual. Needs to quit his job and find one that doesn't include customer interactions. Stay away from this hotel if you want to feel safe, clean and able to get sleep.

Needed a hotel that could accommodate, long term stays! That also offered reliable internet. Hot morning breakfast and a clean laundry facilities! The rooms needed to have office space, and need everything to be clean and workable, not over used and broken down!! Everything exceeded my expectations!

Stayed 2 nights for the 5k in October. Front desk could not have been nicer and very flexible when we got in closer to 11:30pm. Checkout was at 11am so we weren't rushed in the morning. Room and bathroom was clean and the AC was efficient and (thankfully) had no smell! Great experience and great price!

Hit a deer and car was totaled on our way home to Florida. Car rental place suggested SureStay. The desk managers (Michele and Joanne) went above and beyond to help us, even offering transportation to dinner and suggestions for accommodations when we continued our journey.

I wish I could give zero stars to these thieves. My dad passed away so I rushed down to myrtle beach, sc to be with my mom. While trying to find a local hotel on Priceline, it somehow confirmed and charged this location on my PayPal account. This place was an hour and a half away from where I was trying to stay. I immediately contacted Priceline about this who contacted the hotel to explain what had happened and cancel this obvious mistake. This greedy hotel refused and kept $250 for a room I couldn't possibly use all because something went wrong with my phone and it ment they could line there own pockets. I would never trust an establishment that has no problem taking advantage of a grieving person.

Only stayed 1 night. Our room smelled like wet towels, mildew, and marijuana. We found a bug full of blood on our bed as we were leaving. We told the front desk staff who promised a call from the manager that never happened. This was gross.

I hate leaving bad reviews but this was a terrible experience. The room smelled awful. During checkin we moved rooms, the second room also smelled terrible. We had to leave for awhile, picked up some fabreeze and returned to a room that still smelled horrible. We were only offered a partial refund if we wanted to check out so we tried to make it work. The younger lady working at night was very nice but said she could not do anything about the smell or the room. She did give us a small discount. The smell was so bad it kept us awake at night. The window was unlocked so I'm assuming we aren't the first to complain but there's no screen so you can't really leave the windows open. Especially with children. Checkout was not a great experience there was a different front desk clerk and she was not friendly. It's a shame the pool is nice and the rooms are comfortable but that smell is more than anyone would want to handle- and to not offer a total refund to someone who does not want to spend the night is bad policy. It makes it impossible for someone to find a more comfortable room. Leaving today very tired with bad headaches.

Extremely friendly and helpful staff as we checked in on a Sunday night for a one night stay. Being handicapped the clerk gave us a room on the first floor close to the check in area. I believe it was room 101. No complaints with the room, although I did ask for a room discount using my AAA or AARP card it was not reflected on the invoice, perhaps discounts are not honored on weekends. The breakfast could be a lot better if it offer more than dry cereals, pastries and fruits. Years ago upon staying here the breakfast bar had a waffle iron where you could make your own hot waffles and they also had hard boiled eggs that were already shelled which wouldn't be that hard or expensive to bring back. The morning clerk stated that they still had the waffle iron but didn't know why the hotel removed it from the bar, nor could she give a reason for not having boiled eggs anymore. It's for this reason I'm giving the motel a 4 star rating. The breakfast bar in comparison to other chains that we have stayed at is fair in comparison. Coffee machine was wonderful. 5 stars to the older lady working the day shift on the 17th for her friendliness and 5 stars to the day shift lady in the 18 of July for her friendliness. I believe she said she was from New Jersey.

Very clean & convenient, but no frills accommodations. The room was clean, the bed was very comfortable, the fish tv worked well, & the 24 hour coffee, tea, or hot chocolate was pleasant. We would stay at this SureStay again.

somehow my reservation was switched from a two bed to a one bed, and the manager was rude and wouldn't help anyway. The breakfast was not that good the cereal was stale. the beds were not queens look like full size beds.

This hotel doesn't permit Residents of Wilmington NC to stay. My reservation for a two night stay went through online, I entered all of my personal details including my card number, and I received my confirmation number. Later I received a phone call from a number unknown so I didn't answer it. I drove all the way here to be told that they have no rooms available. "But I have a reservation." "The girl earlier called you and left a voicemail. As it was evident from the front desk clerk that he had no intentions of honoring my reservation, I checked my voicemail "We canceled your reservation because we DON'T WANT WILMINGTON RESIDENTS staying HERE" Also in the phone call it was stated that it should have shown on the website that they don't accept residents of Wilmington at their hotel. I triple checked this, and that information is NOT on the reservation website. New Hanover County residents spend your money elsewhere because you're not welcome here.

Hotel was convenient to where I needed to be. You can tell they have tried to upgrade some things, but there is still a lot that shows the age of this hotel. I had to check in around midnight, and the gentleman working then did not bring his A game. Took forever and he seemed very unsure of what he was doing. I had to change beds because one was full of sand, and I fear those sheets weren't changed from the last guest in that room. BLECH! Breakfast was a nice extra, but the offerings are very basic, and not many of those.

Front desk staff were very friendly. Motel was clean and smelled nice. Mattress on bed was horrible, slept like a concrete floor. No where to sit in room except bed. Tried to use the Hopper app as suggested by TV directions to set up our Netflix acct but it wouldn't work, however on the Hopper app- a better, MUCH better rate for our room popped up though the check in staff didn't offer one. We paid $150 per night and slept awful, like had to stand in the shower for 15 mins bc of back pain

This hotel was clean and nice for the money they charge. Nothing superb but nothing bad either. the room was well cleaned. The breakfast was small but again it was acceptable, more fresh fruit would have been nice. We love our coffee, the coffee machine was ok, I would update if I were the owner, just saying. We would probably stay again if neeeded.

I stayed 2 nights at the SureStay Hotel prior to checking into my beach house @ Holden Beach, North Carolina. My stay was rather uneventful with the exception of a drunk lady in the room next door at 1am squawking about something hurting / burning very loudly .....

The hotel is very clean and welcoming. Friendly service and warm greetings. The room was clean and everything was in working order. Very reasonably priced and near a great restaurant, two actually. The only thing is...Bring your white noise because the walls are paper thin and you can hear everything. Otherwise, it's a great place to stay!

No microwave in room, TV didn't work, and customer service nonexistent. Designated smoking area less than 6 feet from back entrance which is where over 50% of parking is located so nearly impossible to avoid.

I walked in the front door at 9:45pm, tired from driving all day from Florida. I didn't see the sign advising to wear a mask. There was a hugh partition anyway. The clerk never asked if I had a reservation but just had a fit that I didn't have a mask on. Instead of asking me to get one, she kept asking where my mask was. I told her it was in the car. She wanted to know why it was in the car. When I'm tired, I get pissy so I made a comment and she got nastier. I went to the car and got my mask. When I got back in the lobby she kept telling me that she could cancel the reservation. I told her that I wasn't about to do so. From there, she just kept up her mean act. I am a Diamond Select member with Best Western and this a such a rare occurence with this kind of treatment at a Best Western property it has really soured me on the SureStay brands which after two other nights on my trip, I'm not impressed. Anyway, got the key, parked, went in room. The room reeked of cigarette smoke (in a non-smoking room) and there was a 1/4 roll of toilet paper with no back-up roll. I went to the front desk and as I approached, she went in the office and slammed the sliding door. She finally came out a few minutes later and I asked for toilet paper. She never said a word, came out to another room, got the toilet paper and handed it to me; not a word said. Would I go back to this location? Hell no. The bed was shot, the water pressure in the sink a trickle. Plus, no carpets - hardwood floors. Great walking around with no socks on a cold floor. The next morning it was very noisy. The walls are paper thin. But, for the price and the area and the time of year, you be the judge.

Overall good location and seemed to be taking COVID-19 seriously in the lobby with masks, 6 ft distancing, Only thing that would have made this better is the regular cleaning of the room.(taking out the trash and wiping everything down). TV was out the whole time and they were trying to fix.

I picked this hotel as I got a great rate and it is pet friendly. Upon arrival girl at desk was disinfecting key cards and I could tell Covid protections were enforced. She put us in room 115. This is the last room by the back door. I took a shower and the bathroom floor flooded as it is a walk in shower. I got stuck in the bathroom a few times and my son had to open from the other side. I'm glad someone was with me or I just would've still been in there. I found a hair on the bed sheet and a drop of blood that was on the pillow case that didn't come out. That shouldn't have been put back on the pillow. Then as we tried to sleep the back door kept banging every time people came in and out. Then people talking loud and dog barking woke up my dog. I went to desk at 12am and the guy very nicely said he could move me to a 2nd floor room. I was so tired but didn't want to stay and hear all the people leave at 6 am so we moved. This room was so much cleaner and nicer. Now that we were up we had to walk dog and went to sleep at 1:45 am. I am a teacher who just finished remote learning and wanted a quick trip to beach to relax. I was a little disappointed about my experience but if I was to rate hotel on the second room I would've given a much better rating.

This hotel has apparently been closed for weeks but continued to take reservations until recently. After seeing a review about a month ago indicating that a guest had his reservation cancelled within 24 hrs. of his stay--due to renovations, I began to look into cancelling and rebooking. The hotel has not answered the telephone for weeks. The Best Western customer service representatives had no idea the hotel was closed and could not reach anyone on site. When they finally confirmed that the hotel was closed, they offered to book me at another Best Western at a higher nightly rate! After cancelling my reservation yesterday and booking with another chain, I received an email notifying me that my reservations could not be honored because the hotel was closed for renovations. The email was sent one day before my planned stay and the email referred to me by someone else's name!!! Clearly, Best Western has no control over their franchises and communications with guests are nonexistent.

Staff seemed friendly especially the older lady working. We arrived on Saturday for business and checked out on Monday. The elevator was out of service all during our stay and we had to use the staircase. My wife has a heart disability and upon asking for a downstairs room, none were available. The halls are very musky smelling but humidifiers were running. We've stayed here several times over the years and this was the first time we actually had a complaint of any sort. One of the bed blankets looked like it had Elmer's glue smeared on it so I simply didn't use the blanket during our stay. I hate to guess what it was without saying, but it wasn't glue. This Inn has changed its name several times over the years and for the most part been great. Not sure of how the management runs things but it seems like it's not up to its normal high standard. I like the location which is on Hwy. 17 and near food places. Will we stay there again, likely will try it again down the road. Everyone can have a bad day. If it is bad again next stay, you can bet we'll be staying somewhere else.

This place was awful...the smell is awful. Old musky mildew. Should have known when I saw all the air purifiers sitting in the hallway. I don't think the carpet had been changed since the place was built and the beds came over with Noah! There were roaches and spiders in the room and the sink was stopped up. The front desktop ladies were great and tried to help the best they could but I was physically sick from breathing in that air in that room. Never again!!!.

Everything was clean. The bed was soft and the sheets were clean and fresh. Very close to everything with a short drive. The Staff were courteous, friendly and helpful. Would definitely book again and recommend to others.

"Ex Econo-Lodge" still has too many remnants of old facility which "Best Western" has not completed remodeling (in progress). This motel is Pet friendly, has clean rooms, receptionist is very cordial and responsive. Advertised price of $81 is WAY below their charge, currently at $138 for a basic non-smoking room with one bed !! A bit out of the way and needs more visibility for better business !

We stayed here 3 years ago and enjoyed it! But after this visit NEVER AGAIN....First off I was told the room could be discounted but they noticed in the computer wouldn't allow it (so no discount), then walking down the hall it smelled soooooo bad like musky/mildewy along with our room and to top it all off we pushed the power button on our remote and got a big pop along with an electrical spark so of course we don't even have T.V. now so I called the front desk to let them know and I was told "nothing we can do for you...we could discount yours when you check out" So, the next morning I went to the front desk to ask about the discount and the lady behind the counter was very nice and understanding she basically begged her manager via text for a discount (which I could read every text and he was not friendly)...finally after 30+ minutes of texting he finally said ok to the discount...which was a waste of time because I never received ANY discount for the room off my credit card. Never again will I spend the money to stay in a stinky place like this one.

Great Best Western. Made reservations a few hours out on Bestwestern.com. Got in and staff was welcoming.The room was clean and bed comfortable. We got in after 12 hours driving and greatful for hot shower and comfortable bed. Didn't have time for breakfast because we were meeting our niece in ocean isle beach,but coffee was hot.

I was able to reserve a room over a phone with front desk lady early in a morning, the process was very smooth and efficient. Once we arrived from driving for 16 hours we were looking to rest. The front desk lady was very friendly and had the room ready at 10 am. POOL WAS CLEAN.The room and bathroom was clean and also the AC worked great. I would definitely recommend to my friends and family.

We needed a hotel close by to attend a memorial service in Bolivia for a recently passed friend and to pick up her dog to take over ownership . Everything worked out fine and the hotel staff was very nice to us.The beds are very comfortable, the room was clean, the breakfast is wonderful. For dinner we ordered takeout from a nearby pizza hut who delivered it right to our door.

Unbelievably nice staff, clean bathroom and comfortable beds. I would return to this best western at every opportunity available. They have few pet friendly rooms and we stayed in that room as we had a pet. There was no odor of past pets. Loved the coffee maker, microwave , fridge, iron in a room.The pool was clean and the facility itself(lobby, outside) was neat looking.We will return here again. I think BEST WESTERN has got a winner here. Great Management!

Its big difference as Surestay compare to last time we visited shallotte last year while it was rodeway, in the room we had they had new floor and lot of new amenities. and best part we liked is good night sleep on bedding they had and Morning Shower was great. i liked is their new showerhead, it had very good water presser. besides i was not expecting much compare to price we could have paid in myrtle beach. but it exceeded my expectation.

The service was good but that was about all. The rooms were dirty and smelled like smoke. There was also a lot of non-hotel guests hanging around the pool. I do not plan on staying here in the future.
