    « Great motel »

Great motel, very clean, modern bathroom, close to fast food outlets, pub . Quiet at night, only negative was no screen door unable to leave door open for fresh air, would recommend to others as very comfortable.

« Misleading Advertising » advertises this Motel as being in Maitland but in fact it's located 6km away at Rutherford. Misleading advertising to say the least . I was hoping to walk to my favorite restaurant and have a wine in Maitland. The motel being 6 km away forced me to drive.

    « Comfortable and clean »

I will start by saying I would certainly stay there again, The room was clean and comfortable and good value, The restaurant was closed but plenty close by to eat. The corridor entrance to the motel room was dark and a bit unkempt looking, but once inside it was very nice, shame there was a big wall to look out on as there was an outside seating area.

« Good hotel Good value for money »

The only downside to this room was it did have a funny smell and we had to leave the front door open for awhile but every time we left and came back that smell was there. Would be good if that back door had a fly screen that way could open the door and have fresh air and no need to use air conditioning but didn't want to open the door has bugs or something else crawl in. Room was very clean, bathroom modern, the hotel on the outside is nice. Our room did have a door which connects to the room next door we could hear the peole next door talking kids playing but it was ok as the noise stopped early. It is in a great location oportos mac donalds and petrol station all accross the road. And not too far you have aldi and coles. In general it was a good place to stay over the weekend and would return but hopefully not in a smelly room.

    « Great stay »

Stayed here recently to attend a family wedding in the area. Staff were very helpful Room was very clean and comfortable.wi-fi was excellent, and getting to and from the Hunter Valley was easy from this location The Hotel next door had nice meals and friendly staff also.

    « Rutherford Delight »

Had a good leg up from my wife who had stayed previously on a business trip Very clean & well appointed bonus free wifi Best club sandwich I had via room service for so long ?? One little downer was reception check in felt a little cold & unwelcoming-but made up by another person next morning with lots of friendliness & smiles on check out!

    « A pleasant one night stay »

The hotel stay was good. The rooms are very clean and spotless. Wi-Fi was complementary, however the signal was weak and kept disconnecting. There were no complementary water provided and we had to pay for it. Else, everything else was perfect. The service was excellent.

« Business but stayed with husband »

I stayed on a business trip, but with my husband as a couple. The hotel is in a great location, but having transport is really helpful - depending on where you want to go from here. The staff were all beautiful, kind, helpful and just great. The room was really clean and a good size for me and hubby. I would highly recommend to anyone.

« Great place to stay »

This was one of the best motels we have stayed in. The room was large, the bathroom was large. the bed was a bit on the hard side but that is just personal preference. Spotlessly clean and very quiet. A toaster & microwave in the room would have been helpful. The breakfast was very good. The shower was a bit hit & miss as the water temp kept changing but we managed OK. The only thing we didn't like was the attitude of the manager, (we presumed he was the manager by his rude and arrogant manner) at breakfast he opened up the patio doors to the dining room and a very strong cold wind came blowing in. A lady who was sitting right in front of it closed the door and got abused by the manager for doing so even though there was a sign in the car park telling guests to use the other door. We would certainly stay there again and would highly recommend it. I would advise booking through an online booking site such as tripadvisor or as booking direct with the motel can be more expensive.

    « Clean & comfortable »

Great value for money, room was spacious & clean. Foxtel channels didn't have the greatest reception. Friendly staff. Hot breakfast was pretty standard but was included in room price. Payed the extra $5 for hot breakfast. Would stay again.

    « Billing Issues »

I booked into this hotel as it was a suggested hotel for a wedding I was attending. Stayed Saturday night, checked out Sunday morning. Upon check in I was told that a $100 pre-authorisation would go on my credit card on top of the $162 room rate for the night. I checked out and on the Monday the $162 room rate was taken out of my account and there was still a $260 pre-authorisation on my card. We didn't have any extra room charges and left the room very tidy. I rang the hotel to ask why so much was taken out and they said they couldn't help and that it was "my bank's fault". 4 days later and the $260 is still frozen from my bank account. Was a nice stay but I am fuming that I was given false information, especially regarding money. I recommend paying your pre-auth in cash if they give you the option, or making sure they only freeze the amount they say. Not happy.

    « Clean and Convenient »

This is a budget business hotel that is clean, convenient with a nice check-in, check-out experience. Though it is non-smoking in the rooms, I could still smell past smokers had been in the room. Noise was not too bad, but expect an early wake up from other business travellers getting up and starting their cars early.

« Deceptive and poor service »

Booked online for a room with "buffet breakfast" only to be told at the hotel it would be a continental breakfast with a charge to upgrade for access to the hot food. Not only is this deceptive, but to make it worse the rate was $30 extra for the same room and booking conditions without breakfast - and they charge less ($25) for their continental breakfast directly at the hotel! So I got charged more for a B&B package than just booking a room only and walking up for breakfast. When I took this up with management they wouldn't offer a refund of the difference or include the hot breakfast. Instead they were more interested in saying they couldn't control what 3rd party booking sites had in their wording, and proceeded to blame me for not booking direct and complained about the commissions they had to pay because I hadn't booked direct. Really poor customer service to do this rather than taking up the wording directly with the booking agency?

    « Clean and Comfortable »

Great room, cleaned daily, good size bathroom. Staff were very friendly, great service. Great location walk to the pub for dinner. No more than a 10 minute drive into town with a local shops on the next block,

    « Halfway stop! »

Decided to stay o/night enroute to home as we have stayed when it was with accor group....we were not sorry. ..the room was spotless with fresh towels etc in bathroom and most of all comfy beds...we did eat at the Bradford Hotel...meals were good but meal and drinks very expensive. ...would recommend this accomodation to all

    « Clean and comfortable »

Central location, staff very friendly and the room was large 221..the house keeping staff very friendly.I stayed 3nights, room serviced daily..bathroom was spacious ..cleanliness was 5star..will stay again..

    « Clean »

Clean, conveniant, great beds, good size bathroom, phone did not work, parking at the door, shops across the road, bws, warm rooms, outside smoking area, bar fridge, nice management, friendly, pub at the back

    « Best shower! »

For the cheap WOTIF deal it was a pretty good deal. Clean facilities and nice staff. The best shower ever!! Nice big shower heads. Shame about the light shining through the curtains in the night if you're in a front room. Otherwise pretty happy.

    « Overnight »

Husband and I stayed here for one night. Booked which showed a spa. This is Premium King, at an extra $20 per night it is good value. Loved our room. Walk to the nearby hotel which we didn't. Present deal includes breakfast. We really enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

    « Surprising in a good way »

Looks like a motel, being a single storey drive up with parking right out the front. Was therefore expecting an average roadside motel but it was a 3-4 star standard room. We booked a family room and it could easily have fit two families. Check in was straightforward. There's a small hub of fast food joints across the road so you'll never starve. Some petrol stations nearby and a pub too from what we heard but we didn't make it there. Would stay again if in the Hunter again. Close enough drive to all the vineyards.

« Great stay handy location »

I stayed here overnight for work and was impressed by the rooms and dining options available. The room was clean and had a generous size to the room and bathroom. There was an onsite restaurant as well as pub virtually next door as well as fast food options. Receptionist was particularly friendly, even remembered my name the next morning. Will stay here again.

« Amazing service, delicious food and comfy/clean rooms! - Courage to Care »

I manage a volunteer team called Courage to Care who have been working at the local gallery in Maitland for 6 weeks. We have had over 45 people staying at the Best Western Hunter Gateway and every single person has come back impressed with the service and generosity of the staff. The rooms are clean and very comfy with newly renovated bathrooms. The food was delicious and the chef was happy to cater for all of our different dietary requirements. I am very happy with our choice to stay at the Best Western Hunter Gateway. Big shout out to Chris, Janeen and Christie for being so amazing!

    « Week Away »

I stayed at the Hunter Gateway for 4 nights whilst investigating teh area, Morpeth, Hunter Valley. I had a King room that provided plenty of space. The site has been refurbed and looked great and was very comfortable. Had my own patio which was nice. The onsite restaurant provided great meals which were of a high standard. The staff from reception to the service people could not do enough for me (from booking wine tours to changing light bulbs). I enjoyed my stay there.

« Would be happy to return »

Stayed at the Gateway over a weekend for work. Staff were friendly and helpful. My room was comfortable, clean and quite. Internet speed was fine for what I required. The king bed was made up of 2 singles push together, I am not a fan of these but still got a good nights sleep. Shower temperature was great however the pressure was a bit low. Plenty of options at Breakfast in the restaurant, unfortunately my review for dinner will need to be done after the next visit as I had dinner at the Bradford Hotel.

« Ok, Ok, but somehow not quite there. »

The room was comfortable and well equipped - not quite up to the 4-star standard that the hotel boasts, but close. Housekeeping wasn't very efficient; a previous inhabitant had left a sticking plaster in the ensuite room, and it remained there until I commented about it to reception. Eating arrangements weren't up to the 4 star standard; the Mebar restaurant is lacking in several respects (reviewed separately, I hope!), and the nearest alternative, a pub on the same grounds, was raucous enough that we didn't reach the front door. Reception was courteous and helpful, and, admitting that they were new to the Best Western franchise, had a little difficulty sorting out what a Best Western cardholder might receive by way of rewards. Trap for young players - unless you book through Best Western, you get no rewards and you can't use any accumulated points.

    « Poor value »

We stayed as a family of four for a single night on a return trip from Victoria. Trendy bed covers and full length curtains don't automatically give you a 4 star rating and I found it hard to reconcile the $250 cost against what we received. Here;s the list; * A family room with 4 beds (double and 2 singles) and only two chairs. * Three wine glasses - we didn't drink any wine but why only three glasses. * Poorly made bed - on my side the bedsheet couldn't even be tucked under the mattress whilst on my wife's side it reached the floor. * Pillows that had the stuffing coming out. The pillow cases were clean but the pillows had been inserted the wrong way with the stuffing exposed. From my experience not every guest has good hygene and coming into contact with the stuffing was hideous. * Mattresses on the double that were past their use-by and sagged in the middle that left my wife and I sleeping on the edges. * A garden at the back comprising fully grown weeds. * A overgrown garden at the front dripping with dew (although the garden next to it had recently been clear-felled so maybe that was the fate awaiting the garden at the front of our unit. * No dedicated shower - you had step up into and to stand in a smallish bath-tub with some small anti-slip stickers that gave no grip. * The shower taps were positioned so that the shower rose sprayed your hands and forearm with cold water when you first turned them on. * A shower screen that only covered only half the bath and wet the floor and bath mat. On the plus side we had 6 towels ??? maybe to soak up the excess water on the floor. In fairness it was quiet, clean and the room could be made nice and dark. And before I get the "we don't agree with your criticism" response by management I wanted to raise some of these points with staff at the front desk but we left 10 minutes before reception opened. The staff were certainly in there, she even looked at me from behind the counter but wouldn't come to the door and just pointed to the card return box outside. We have stayed in the CDB of Brisbane and Sydney at Meriton and Oaks apartments for the same money. For $250 a night I would expect that they know how to make a bed properly to start with, and although I don't particularly care about the weedy garden it doesn't take much effort to pull them out and thrown them under the mower. We wouldn't return to this motel.

« Excellent service, friendly staff »

We stayed one night for groovin the moo in maitland and this hotel met all our needs, they allowed us early check in and were very friendly. It was only a short taxi ride to where we needed to be, Very happy with our stay.

    « Comfortable and modern »

Stayed here for one night over the Easter break to visit family in Maitland. Had never been to Maitland before and picked BW Hunter Gateway as it looked more modern than most of the other motels. It ended up being in the Rutherford side of Maitland which was about 10 min away from central Maitland where our family was live and learn! We were warmly greeted on arrival and check in was efficient. We were travelling with our 18 YO daughter so had booked a deluxe double room which had two queen beds and small living area and sliding door to the outside. The bathroom was large with shower over bath, lots of hot water and the shower head was nice and tall as my husband is over 6 foot. Only complaint was the bed was spongy and dipped into the middle and the pillows were the opposite and quite firm. There is a hotel adjacent for meals but we didn't eat there. Continental Breakfast was included in our booking, but as it was Easter Monday and they had a large group there the previous day there was not much on offer as they hadn't had a chance to restock over the holiday. My daughter is gluten free and she could only eat fruit and yoghurt as the only other options were bread/muffin and cereal. I'll forgive this as they had a large number of guests through and it was the last day of the Easter holiday. Wifi was free but a little sketchy and dropped in and out. It is a little out of central Maitland which is quite a spread out little town, but probably convenient if you are on your way to the Hunter Valley or using it as a base. Just off the main road so pretty quiet. All in all OK for a stop over.

« Disappointing at Best. Given the Cheapie room as a reward for frequent travel. »

We are frequent travellers and as a result of that were issued with a frequent traveller discount of 10%, it is very obvious that we were allocated a 'cheapie' room. The room was located at the end of a dismal dark corridor. Upon entering, there was a foul stench, we immediately tried to open the doors to let in some fresh air, unfortunately the blinds were broken which prevented us from being able to open the double doors. We notified the receptionist asking to be transferred to another room where we could open the doors and blinds. Receptionist informed us it was a 'full house', which is peculiar as there were 20 vacant car spaces and many rooms with no occupants. It really isn't fair to reward frequent travellers with a pseudo discount, which equates to the 'crap rooms'. Also in the bathroom, we were shocked to find a towel folded with what appeared to be suspicious 'brown stains' on the inside..... not what I call pleasant. The only plus was a mini bar and the comfortable bed. Not happy Jan.

    « evening out »

we were not at all happy with this establishment. we booked on line and did not get the room that we thought that we booked.-3 single beds when we booked a queen.also this was a disabled room and neither of us is disabled. there was no hot water when we used the shower, reception turned it back on but it didnt heat up till morning.we were offered a free continental breakfast the following morning but we had to leave before the restaurant opened at 8am

    « Good spot »

Very comfortable and well fitted out room with very friendly staff. Had dinner which was quite tasty with significant sized servings which will not leave you hungry. Missed breakfast as I had to leave early than the buffet breakfast which starts at 6am. Worth a visit if there are functions nearby or as a stopoff going to New England or Western NSW.

    « Dirty and disappointing »

Disappointed with our stay here. We were in the Hunter region for a wedding and thought this would be a great place to spend the night. The place is pretty new and at first glance seems lovely and worth 4 stars. It was a busy weekend due to a concert in the area and front desk staff was keeping a level head despite how many people were checking in at the time. But it went downhill from the moment we stepped into our room. The smell that greeted us was quite unpleasant; like it hadn't been cleaned in a long time and whatever was used was left there, damp. We needed to get ready for the wedding and the hotel was booked out because of the concert so I let that go, thinking maybe they hadn't aired out the room since the last tenants were in, so I opened the doors to let a breeze through (this didn't work btw; the smell was noticeable every time we walked in the room). I went to turn on the TV and, despite finding the remote control in a branded Best Western "Fresh Remote" bag (who the heck came up with that idea?!) there was sticky brown grime on it. It was disgusting and totally offputting. Which made me wonder; what else do the cleaners just "bag" (like cups and mugs) without actually cleaning them? As I got my dress which was hanging in the wardrobe and I saw a can of insect repellent and thought, "Hmm that's unusual. And thoughtful... I guess?" Until I saw a cockroach crawl across the floor as we were about to leave and wondered how often does this happen that there is bug spray already in the room? Also found insects in the bathroom sink upon our return from the wedding. By that stage it was 1am and I decided I'd give my feedback when we checked out, first thing in the morning. Except the people at front desk weren't interested in feedback; they just asked for my door key, checked we hadn't taken anything from the minibar and said, "Yep, that's it. All good." No, "How was your stay?" Or even a thank you. So here's your feedback. On the whole, on the surface the hotel LOOKS great; furnishings are new and modern and the bed was comfy. BUT peel back a layer and you'll see why it wouldn't be surprising to see it fall apart in a few years. From our experience, cleanliness was not a priority and neither is maintenance (the bottom of the shower door is broken, making it hard to close, the water seals are dirty, and the bathroom taps are dull and rust is starting to form). Since there were obvious shortcuts made in cleaning the room (hygiene should be a #1 priority!) you only get one star. Sorry BW; we had high hopes for this hotel but it didn't cut it this time.

« Nice neat and comfortable »

We stayed here as it is conveniently placed next to the Bradford hotel. Reception was nice and helpful, our room was clean and comfortable with a good bed. We used the pool which was great for a hot day. Happily recommend for a night or longer. The Bradford hotel was also a treat

« Great place to stay »

Hotel and room very tidy and comfortable. Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to use the pool but it did look very clean and inviting. The Bradford Hotel next door has great, generous sized and affordable family meals. Would definitely recommend this hotel to others and stay here again if in the area.

    « Great stay »

Fantastic pillows, wish I had them at home! Nice & close to where I was working & conveniently located to a pub & some fast food outlets. Hadn't stayed there in a little while but will be my go-to in the area again.

« Beautiful rooms, great service! »

My husband and I had an overnight stop here, and couldn't commend them enough for their beautiful modern rooms, cleanliness, friendly staff and lovely dining options. Our stay in the king spa room was luxurious and our cooked breakfast in the morning was delicious!

« On Site restaurant - Yum, Yum, Yum »

The restaurant here has only been open a week and I have been staying on business and have been lucky to dine 3 times. The service by Jason the waiter is absolutely wonderful and the food produced by the cook Mick is Yum. I have had the Moreton Bay bug and prawns, the duck rolls and tonight the fettuccine with chicken and all were very tasty, appealing and large servings. Whether you are visiting or living locally this restaurant is worth a visit.

« Great, comfortable place to stay. »

Located on the highway out to singleton this hotel met and exceeded my expectation. Having previously stayed in many different forms of accommodation whilst working this was by far my most pleasant experience. Great room, comfy bed and high quality fittings make this a great place to stay. The restaurant was also of a very high quality with excellent food and a large number of options to please even the most discerning of pallets!! Jason our waiter was a great host and took mine and my co-workers sometimes loud and a bit over the top behaviour in his stride! He more than deserves a pay rise! :-) All in all conveniently located to The Bradford Hotel, Maccas and a service station this is my pick to stay in the upper hunter.

    « Neil Diamond Concert »

The bus pick up & return point was right outside so the location was perfect. The couple running the place went out of their way to offer us all sorts of advice, directions, do's & dont's etc, very friendly & helpful. The room was spotless, bed comfortable & the shower water pressure was fantastic. The breakfast next morning was superb, couldn't fault it & well priced. I made sure I got a business card because if ever I am up that way again I will book this place without hesitation. The only negative, if you can call it that, was our room card was a bit finicky in the lock, (probably me). My wife & I would definitely recommend the Best Western Rutherford.

    « Not to bad »

Overall the rooms are OK and that they are clean and tidy. Suited my purpose. The staff were very friendly at the time of check in and check out. While the meal that I had in the restaurant was very nice and the staff were very pleasant. The restaurant itself was not ascetically pleasing. It just lacks that personal feeling.

    « Friendly & Clean »

Staff were friendly & welcoming. Room felt fresh and very clean. We would definitely stay there again. Was a little disappointed that we weren't told that the restaurant wasn't open, but the motel is very handy to the local pub and takeaway outlets, so it wasn't a real problem.

« Nice room could do with a settee though »

Enjoyed the stay at Hunter Valley. Room was good, patio was a nice addition, jacuzzi bath was great at the end of a long day tasting wines. Room was large and could have benefited from a settee to allow us to sit down together rather than on the bed. We did have one chair. There were lots of pillows and a really comfy bed.

    « peaceful relaxing place »

I stayed here over for two nights. The staff were really nice to let us check in a little bit earlier than 2pm as we arrived early to the place. The room we stayed in was clean and simple and there was plenty of space for my partner and I. The parking lot is just outside the rooms which was very convenient. The location was about 20 minutes from the hunter valley region which wasn't too bad considering we had our own transportation. It is a cross from a orporto, mcdonalds and a petrol station and about 5 minutes from a woolworths. Would definitely stay again and recommend to others.
