    « Lovely stay »

Stayed here for one night when I was attending an awards night in the area. Reception staff were very welcoming and attentive, same with bar staff. Room lovely and spacious with great views of the sea. Large tv and sofa too. It was a suite and well worth paying the extra money. Bar staff very friendly again and we got back at 12am and the night porter happy to serve us which was nice to have a night cap! Breakfast was delightful and a special mention to Pauline who was so attentive over the two days I was there

    « Noisy noisy NOISY »

Had 5 night stay which was totally ruined by last night which was unbelievably noisy from DJ - whole room was shaking with the Thump Thump THUMPING of ear shattering music below our room. We complained and staff said they would lower volume BUT didn't. We were not warned of this or would have stayed elsewhere. Neither myself or my wife could hear the television on full volume and could not sleep at all. It was unbearably loud - and I am registered deaf in both ears! But I could feel the room shaking. The staff said the manager would contact us to apologise - but over 2 months later this has still not happened. Very disappointed and upset - certainly do not recommend Friday night stay. Our break was completely spoilt. It is a pity because overall staff were polite and breakfast very good - But no response from manager and no warning when we arrived at beginning of stay re Fridays unbelievably loud noise ruined stay

« very friendly, polite and discreet. Facilities are nice, lovely views of the sea. »

On arrival staff already knew who I was and was very helpful in letting me check in earlier than expected. My room was clean and tidy and has everything you need in your room. They have a 24hr bar downstairs that I thought was really good even though I was too busy to use it. I would definitely stay there again and come back for one of there dj nights.

    « Slight improvement »

Hotel has recently been taken over by Bets Western. The entertainment has improved, so Friday and Saturday night has a better atmosphere. The bar staff were a little lazy, and sometimes rude. The receptionist is now very pleasant and helpful. Food and drink lovely. Cleaner needs to learn some manners!! But overall a good stay. Perfect location on the sea front.

    « Great location »

Spent 3 nights in this hotel in September, had a room over looking the sea, room was large and comfortable with good size bathroom, maybe a teeny bit of redecoration needed. Car park right opposite entrance for guests and well placed for town, pubs, cafes and beach. Staff were all friendly and pleasant, especially the ladies at breakfast time, breakfast very good, especially sausages which I thought were really tasty. Overall a decent hotel in decent location.

« First stop on our long weekend break at Warners. »

This hotel is our lunch stop before going to Warners Gunton Hall once a year, It has its own car park and starts serving lunch at 12. Obviously you can get refreshments before that and you dont have to be a resident. It overlooks Lowestoft beach. The food is lovely and the staff excellent.

    « Wedding reception »

We had our wedding breakfast and reception here on the 15th October 2016, I stayed the night before and on the night of the wedding I felt comfortable and looked after from the moment I got there, we had a lovely day everything ran smoothly from start to finish I would definitely recommend the Hatfield hotel for your wedding, shelley the wedding organiser is really lovely and really goes out of her way to make your day perfect without you having to do anything, the function room is now being refitted so will be even better

    « lovely break here »

A lovely clean room overlooking the sea, nice location with an easy walk in to the town, but nice and quiet area. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the breakfast never failed to please and the restaurant meals were tasty and very good value

« Hosts with the give »

Clean and tidy bedrooms, felt comfortable from the minute we got there. The staff was excellent, we have come to this hotel many times and we love it every time we come. Great scenery when you look towards the sea front from the hotel. Great parking and the bar staff and manageress Kathy were both excellent and lovely to speak to aswell as being very helpful. Will definately stay again.

« Great place with a nice bar »

The room is tidy and clean. I can get all the services I need. Had breakfast and dinner everyday during my trip and the food quality was fantastic. Staff are helpful and kind. I had even better sleeps in Hatfield than at home with the sound of sea waves every night.

« Breakfast in the sunshine »

Was recommended breakfast here by the Lowestoft Travelodge. We were lucky enough to have a wonderful, warm and sunny morning to enjoy a full English breakfast on the lower terrace with our dog. Excellent food and service.

« Amazing team, felt so much at home. »

What a great weekend spent at this hotel! Clean, comfortable, great location and stunning view with incredible warm weather for the season. A lovely team of staff too with particular thank to Kathy and Sammy who looked after us with incredible professionalism and genuine concern for guests comfort. We will be back!

« Excellence, effort and efficiency. »

Went to Lowestoft for a day out with my two disabled sons, my disabled great grandson, and two very dear friends. We decided to eat lunch at The Hatfield Hotel. What a great decision that was. We were warmly welcomed by a lady who must surely have real experience with the disabled. This lady, and her staff, were attentive without being overbearing; efficient without being distant; couteous without being deferential; and provided us with service that should be highlighted and rewarded. The food was as good as anything I have had at home and beautifully presented. We were served quickly but without being rushed. The food was served hot with quiet skill and everyone enjoyed the meal chosen from an appropriate range of dishes. We will return, with and without the disabled ones, to enjoy the great food, exemplary service, and very comfortable surroundings. Thank you to The Hatfield staff, front and backroom.

    « Wow »

Well all i can say is they puy us in a family room with a 5 and 6 year old right above the bar. Loud music all night. Noise above and below all night. Spoken to like trash by the early staff. Left at 7am to go sleep at home. 117 pounds for 1 night of rubbish with no breakfast. Broken beds for the kids as seen in pic. Absolutely disgusting place and service was abismal. 5 star my behind. What a joke

    « Hatfield Hotel Lowestoft Oct 2016 »

Hotel nicely situated with good size car park. Some parts of hotel looking a little tired but cleanliness was fine. room basic but fine. Food very nice at a reasonable price. All staff polite and helpful at all times. Would use again if in area.

« Shabby but not chic »

The Hatfield always used to be considered up-market so I was disappointed when I arrived to see how down at heel it appeared. The stair carpet was threadbare in places and if not replaced soon will represent a safety hazard. The rooms were cleaned to a level of hygiene but it would have been difficult to make them look welcoming with everything so shabby. Breakfast was poor to say the least and I got the feeing that everything was deep fried. On the positive side the coffee was lovely as was the weather so sitting on the deck afterwards overlooking the beach was a joy. This place could certainly do with a visit from Alex Pollizzi. On the positive side the staff were absolutely wonderful - very hardworking and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Particularly Annette who was serving breakfast during my stay. Would I stay here again? Probably not - the restaurant only really serves pub grub so I ate out therefore a B&B or a Travelodge would have been just as good and cheaper. Come on Best Western - you have two great assets - the staff and the position. Pull your socks up, The Hatfield looks as if it's dying on its feet.

« If this is a BEST Western, I'd hate to stay in a WORST Western!! »

We had used this hotel on a number of occasions previously; I vowed we would never use it again! However, with a family gathering I needed multiple rooms and, unfortunately the Victoria Hotel was unable to accommodate us so had to (reluctantly) return to the Hatfield. It must have recently become a Best Western Hotel but this 'accolade' appears to have done little to halt the decline! Our stay could have been an episode from 'Fawlty Towers'! Check in was OK but staff seemed more interested in the imminent arrival of a wedding reception. The lift wasn't working - getting 80+ year old mother up to the second floor was a challenge (this is not the 1st time the (only) lift hasn't worked), the only 'apology' was that an engineer has been called - little comfort for elderly guests. We opened the door of the assigned single room to find a guest sat on the bed - he was apologetic (more so than the staff), so back down to reception and then back up to a different room. There was a general damp, musty smell on corridors and in the en-suite bathrooms and our room had dirty mugs and an un-emptied bin. Although we mentioned this at reception, we eventually collected clean mugs ourselves. Having booked a table in the restaurant, we arrived to find that reception had not informed the restaurant. A retirement party in part of the restaurant was noisy and there was a difficulty of finding a quiet table. However, we were seated and ordered pre-dinner drinks. Pretty easy? No! The Gin and Tonic arrived without gin, the soft drink (no ice, no lemon) arrived with ice and lemon; mine was correct. The meals were lovely - sweets were another matter! The shortbread sweet arrived without shortbread and the treacle tart and custard arrived without custard! This was rectified. However the meal was spoiled by the disco underneath the restaurant (150db boom! boom! boom!) competing with the guitar/vocalist in the lounge - it appeared to end up as a competition as to who had the loudest PA system. Bedtime was no respite from the din except that the disco now had to compete with shrieking banshees, wailing harridans and other assorted bestial and/or supernatural sounds from wedding guests that seemed to continue well past 1:30am. Added to which, the bedrooms were uncomfortably hot with no opportunity to open windows due to the noise. Whilst the recently re-vamped lounge and sun deck area is lovely, there is little evidence of thorough cleaning (sticky floors / tables) and the older areas (including the bedrooms) are dull, dingy, VERY tired and neglected with threadbare carpets (including on the stairs), cobwebs, dust and grime, and a general feeling of neglect. As it was only an overnight stay and a family celebration the following day was much more important, complaining or making comment was pointless - I've done it before and had no response from management. Will be avoiding this hotel at all costs!

« Out for dinner with friends »

The food was of a very high standard, and the service was very friendly and very helpful. They had a live singer in the bar area, this added to a lovely evening. All of the facility's were very clean. Also we have stayed at this hotel before and the rooms are very clean and well presented. Thanks.

« Stay here only as a lady resort »

I am a Diamond member of the Best Western loyalty programme and stayed at this hotel for the second time to give it a second chance. The young receptionist is extremely rude and has a very poor attitude. I assume this is the receptionist that is so often criticised in these reviews. She hardly makes any eye contact, does not smile and sits in front of her computer screen giving unhelpful responses to questions. The room was exceptionally poor. It was far too warm and the radiator could not be switched off. If you open the window, you cannot sleep for traffic noise. The room has not been adequately maintained as the lamp over the desk had one bulb missing and the other did not work. The attempt to rectify the lamp was a farce and took over an hour. The positive aspect was that the duty manager (bar manager) did her best to address the matter but could not access the maintenance cupboard. Eventually the maintenance man did come with bulbs but the lamp still did not work. To give him and her their due, she was very apologetic and he did go and buy a table lamp so I could work at the desk. The duty manager also gave me a complimentary meal and drink. This is not an upmarket hotel but there is really no excuse for poor standards.

« Very nice hotel, would recommend »

We had a sea view which was lovely. Nothing was too much trouble, the Hotel Manager, Bar and Breakfast staff were nice. Very comfortable bed and pillows which took no settling in from being away from home. Easily walking distance to shopping centre and a good base to visit areas.

    « Drop in »

Must be the best coffee on Lowestoft seafront , outside seating area, protected from the elements by glass is brilliant . Very comfortable seating inside and out. Great views along the seafront. Ideal for people watching

    « Very Sorry »

Despite the friendly hardworking staff at the hotel I am sorry to say that this Hotel has gone down hill. We have stayed here every year for several years but will not be returning. Don't know what happened to the food but breakfast is appalling stayed 5 days five chances to get a decent poached egg instead of one's resembling hard boiled egg. Bacon to repair your shoes with. Mushrooms hard and shrivelled. Smoked kipper not so bad but I guess it came out of a packet and cooked as seems to me everything else in microwave. Only spread on offer are butter pats when I asked for alternative fair play they bought a tub of Flora and put on my table each morning. But this is the only hotel or guest house I have stayed in where choice not offered as a standard. Booked evening meal on first night - ate out after that! Hotel was freezing after numerous complaints to reception it took a telephone call to Best Western HQ customer services to get hotel to fix so last 2 days at hotel rooms warm despite broken window in our room - 103. Curtains actually moving when closed due to gap in window frame. This Hotel is 3 star rated AA should be ashamed also. Room cleanliness also gone down hill. Sheets not changed throughout stay toiletries not replenished. The feel of the place is as if it is being run on a budget and all about cost saving. Very disappointing stay.

    « Unexpected delights »

Golden Sands and easy walking, interesting and varied history, clean and tidy streets and a good hotel right on the esplanade. All most unexpected for what I recalled as a busy fishing port. From the harbour , through a good shopping area and onto the historical High Street above and then beyond into Sparrow's Nest Park with museums and fine 'eateries' a great weeks break with a good hotel for those relaxing hours and excellent meals.

« Lunch by the sea »

Four of has lunch here and was surprised at how nice it was and the quality of food. Presentation was lovely, but portions quite small. The hotel was extremely busy and service was good with a lovely waitress on her first day doing a fab job. Only complaint was that a waiter removed two of our plates while the other two were eating making us all feel rushed and that we needed to go.

« Good spot for a short break »

The hotel is well situated and reasonably priced. The receptionist on check in was a bit rude, didn't acknowledged us and kept in shredding old room receipts. After that, check in was straight forward. The room was small but clean and modern. Inc. big tv and tea/coffee making facilities. Breakfast next morning was help yourself to cereal and toast and then a table service for a breakfast of your choice. Full breakfast, muffin, eggs ben and a veggie option. It was nice and good quality if not on the small portion side. I would go back, ideally located with nice outdoor area

« Not so great Western Hotel :-( »

I've stayed in Great Western Hotels before from Blackburn to Eastbourne. To say this one is poor is an understatement. My bathroom was dirty and run down with long black hair round the sink ( not mine) room 114 ,27th September. And my bedding was so worn it was falling apart. The pillows (4) were so old & flat I needed all of them so I did not get neck ache. The Restaurant was nice with a nice view , but a combination of not very hot food and listening to the staff discussing their tips put ruin to that.

    « Lack of sleep »

Made a big mistake by booking this for a Friday night. Turns out Friday night is disco night at the Hatfield. Pretty sure there was no warning of that when I booked though Horrible loud thumping till midnight, then the party people outside the door till god knows when. Got down early for breakfast to find hungover customers in dressing gowns! (really?) being loud and blocking the main entrance while smoking - please make a smoking area somewhere discrete. And... Get new toasters! waiting forever for toast that won't toast, while a queue waits behind isn't fun. Or better still make fresh toast and bring it to the table. Rant over!

« Small rooms, great breakfast »

Stayed overnight. The room was small but adequate. The desk directly below the television. Only way to see it is to be in the bed. So one can listen to the radio at the desk or lying down on the bed. To watch the television you have to sit up in bed. There was evening entertainment the night I stayed, an operatic singer The breakfast was great with service even with the slowest toaster I have ever come across. For disabled visitors there is an access ramp at the back of the hotel(on the sea front) which leads to the bar from which you need to access steps to leave.

    « Very Pleasent Hotel. »

Situated on the seafront a warm welcome awaits you hear. Parking for 25 cars opposite the hotel. Very nice and helpful staff throughout. Public areas are bright and smart. Large terrace very busy at lunchtimes on sunny days. Breakfast is not wonderful but this is only a three star hotel so one should not expect the Hilton. Only real complaint was being awoken by power decking cleaning at 0650 in the morning. Very convenient for all Lowestoft has to offer. Enjoy your stay.

    « Short Break »

Hotel needs updating, housekeeping needs upgrading. ie room needs checking for cleanliness. not all lights worked. Advertised table cloths at dinner, did not happen! After spending 3 nights in a double bed, fourth night it was changed to 2 single beds don't know why, it was changed back to a double once we phoned reception.

    « Good location »

Situated on the sea front - what better view than a sea facing room. Good sized double room. The en-suite had a bath, which was a bonus. Parking free in the car park across the road from the front of the building. Free wi-fi available. Good seating area outside but they need now to concentrate on the interior especially the bedrooms as they are looking a bit worn and shabby. There is a small lift to access all floors as well as stairs. Staff pleasant and courteous. Evening meal was superbly cooked. We had 1 mains dish of spaghetti carbonara and 1 mains dish of hunters chicken and were not disappointed. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and served by a very cheerful lady.

« Great place to eat & relax. »

This hotel has had a major refurbishment in the last couple of years. It was quite good before, but now it is excellent! The staff are friendly & helpful, nothing is too much trouble. The food is cooked to order, so, although u may have to wait a little longer, the meal is cooked how u want it, it is hot (when it's meant to be!) & freshly cooked using good quality ingredients. A good chef knows how to cook a great steak, & the steaks here are very good, juicy, tender & perfectly medium rare the way I like them. The hotel itself is immaculately clean & beautifully decorated, although we haven't stayed there overnight as we are locals, living in the town. The new outside terrace area is great, u can eat at the outside tables, screened by glass walls so that u can enjoy the sea views, but are sheltered from the sea breezes. The prices are very reasonable for a sea front based hotel, an average meal from the all day menu is around £9. My husband wants me to tell u that the beer is very good, with draught beers, ales & ciders on tap, again at very reasonable prices. All in all a great place to visit for a light lunch, a filling dinner or a family meal. They will also cater for larger parties if booked in advance. It is our favourite place to eat in Lowestoft, bar none!

    « Breakfast at Hatfields »

Having been here before I was more than happy to return. It's a nice setting overlooking the seafront. Service was slow and I couldn't work out why. Having ordered coffees we waited for our full English and bacon bap to arrive. My full English was the usual fayre. The beans were dried and overcooked having suffered from excessive microwaves or sat under the heat. Should never have been served. The mushrooms were dubious but tasted ok. The rest of the meal was ok, hot and quite tasty. The toast was burnt, cold and served without butter. However for £3.95 should I complain? We decided to have more coffee but it took 10mins to get served despite being first in the queue. Sorry Hatfields but I won't be in any rush to return

    « Just not great. »

We utilized the Hatfield for a night when we had a family gathering in the area. We booked because we thought it would be a nice location on the seafront and very close to the party we were attending. The location of the hotel is probably in my opinion the only good thing about The Hatfield. We checked in and got given a twin room after I had asked for a double as I was with my fiancé, however not the end of the world. The room was a substantial size if not a bit narrow and it overlooked the bin shed where staff went to smoke and gossip. I appreciate not every bedroom can have a great view however to have the view of staff members smoking and the bin area in general being very untidy wasn't great! We came back from our party and we were told that residents could still get a drink from the bar.. I don't think the bar team appreciated this at midnight /1am as they didn't believe we were staying at the hotel and it took a good 20 minutes before someone came and served us after leaving us all waiting. Probably had the worst night sleep as the walls are very thin and you can hear generators and toilets flushing. Down for breakfast the next morning and the choice wasn't great and a lot of family had to send theirs back. Working in a hotel myself, I know it is hard to please all guests however I feel there is a lot to improve on and I would not return.

« Two night stay and Jonathan Antoine at the Marina Theatre »

I stayed at the Hatfield with friends for two nights. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the double room and the lovely sea view. The hotel is just a few steps from the beach. The room was fine but the bed was extremely hard, I ended up sleeping on top of the duvet to soften it a bit! The theatre was a short taxi ride away and the concert, which was the reason I was there, was divine. A long journey from the Midlands but I would stay there again.

    « Nice Location »

This hotel is logged as a Best Western but be aware there are no Signs that indicate this on the outside of the Hotel, and you can drive by and miss it. The Hotel mentions in its brochure and guide book that £1 Million has been spent on a refit, this apparently was mainly spent on the Frontage and Decking areas, and it now needs to invest in improving the Interiors of the Bedrooms and Hallways etc. The access for the Elderly and partially Disabled could be revamped as there are a number of Stairs both up and down even if after using the Lift. The Hotel staff thankfully were very helpful and friendly, the Bedrooms were dated and in need of a thorough deep clean and the beds could have been more comfortable. The Breakfast was sufficient a selection Cereals, Pastries,Fruit, Toast, Jam and juices, also a Hot selection, cooked to order and any requested food was supplied if available. We did not make use of the Restaurant for the Evening meal so are unable make any comments.

    « two day break »

just back from a three day break at this lovely hotel,we had a seaview room which was really nice, you could see the sea from your bed.the room was large with tea/coffee making facilities, nice bathroom with bath and shower and a nice large flatscreen tv.check in very quick lovely polite and friendly staff, all round hotel especially Kelly and Anette in dining areas.I must give Steve the manager a special mention apart from being very nice and caring not only to us but to his staff as well,he actually rang his wife and got her to bring in two garden chairs from his home so that me and my wife could sit on the lovely beach {we both have bad backs},that's service for you. we had a lovely break, food was delicious, free car park right outside,a lovely relaxing break will definitely be going back.

    « Lovely evening »

I came here to get away from the children for a few relaxing hours with my hubby. The scenery was absolutely stunning as we sat outside in the evening sun watching over the beach eating our meals. The meals where absolutely delicious and well worth the money although I feel something was missing from the scampi dish. A very nice wide range or drinks where available to choose from too. Slightly noisy due to a group of loud people but that didn't last to long until we were able to relax with a few beverages. We shall definitely be back soon!

    « Always been superb... »

Has always been the best place to eat in town with a superb menu. I imagine they must now have a new chef and hence changed the menu. It now looks like a lunch menu with very little selection. Now seemingly a very average restaurant which is a shame.

    « Great Stay !! »

Recently stayed at the Hatfield Hotel. Slight mishap when booking in, but staff soon sorted the issue and was given a lovely room on the front (would recommend sea view rooms more). Rooms are nice and clean, nothing to complain about, spacious and lovely big bathroom. However, staff couldn't do enough to help us, always pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was lovely and plenty of choice, food in the restaurant in the evening was lovely too and good size portions, drinks at the bar were also reasonably priced. Great location, straight on the promenade and great bar and restaurant area to grab some lunch too. Couldn't fault hotel at all, would definite recommend and stay again !!!!!

« Friendly staff and lovely food »

We ate at the Hatfield hotel recently and the food was lovely. Its a perfect setting for a summers day, sitting on the patio, enjoying the sea view with a nice glass of chilled wine and some good food.

« Good but could of been better!! »

Have stayed here before, always have an enjoyable time. Stayed in the Elizabeth suite which was very nice. Lovely bathroom amazing shower!!! The food at our evening meal was ok but was not as good as our last stay not as much choice as previously!! We were also very disappointed with breakfast!! One person had the continental breakfast and It was not very nice at all!!! The cooked breakfast was not as nice as have had previously. Overall the staff always friendly and helpful. Free car park always a bonus!! The hotel is in a great position right on the sea front therefore stunning view if u have a room with a view!!

« One night of peace and quiet. »

Was working nearby and needed somewhere to stay for the Saturday night. The hotel was very good. Clean and friendly with a lovely terrace looking out to sea. Breakfast was freshly cooked and very enjoyable. I'll be back for sure.

« stay at the Hatfield »

We stayed on an overnight break .The staff were friendly .The price for the top of the season was good .Position of hotel is excellent and the fact it has a free car park .The room was slightly small but was clean .Nice bathroom .Some areas are ready for refurbishment .The food was good (We stayed for Sunday lunch) which was well priced and very popular .We received what we expected from a 3 star seaside hotel

    « Fabulous »

We were surprised by how young the staff were on the day we arrived. They were so polite and helpful with genuine smiles on their faces. Nothing was too much and we had some lovely conversations with them. The hotel food is delicious really well presented. The hotel room itself was big clean and we had a wonderful view.

« Disappointed in the afternoon tea »

My mum booked afternoon tea for myself my auntie cousin and my 5year old daughter when we got there they had put a highchair even tho my had told them she would sit on a normal chair we where sat in the smallest table so asked if we could move to a bigger table, the waitress then huffed and rolled her eyes and said suppose so but I will have to relay the table we then once we got sat down we ordered my daughter a meal they came and asked what we would like to drink we all ordered tea and coffee then 2 cake stands came out with 4 finger sandwiches which felt like they had been left out all day because the bread was dry! We upgraded to the sparking afternoon tea so we got a glass of fizzy which came out in dirty glasses! The rest of cakes where tiny not even a mouthful! When it came to pay the waitress didn't hang around for us to say anything and no one checked on us during the time! Won't be going back!

    « Clean & Comfortable »

After reading reviews of this hotel we were a little unsure on what we might find. No worries, first impression was very good, a very quick & efficient check-in which included a swift registration of our car for free parking in the private car-park just across the road. Our room was on the 2nd floor & we had paid an extra £10 per night for a sea view. The room was very clean, well equiped and quite large & the view was very good, well worth the extra. The hotel was situated right on the promenade and as a result was very busy all day with holiday makers eating & drinking. The breakfast on each day was good with waitress service and you could almost choose anything you wanted, the only gripe was that they were a bit slow in replenishing breakfast items, such as bread for toasting, jams, juices etc We did eat in the hotel on one night and that was OK. The staffing levels were high & they were all very friendly & cheerful. We would defiantly recommend this hotel to anyone.

    « Lunch inside »

Food reasonable except baked potato not 'crunchy' as advertised and the BLT bread a tad dry. Not memorable but for a hotel value for money. The scenery over the beach is good and it accepts wheelchairs but I don't have one. At high season and at lunch time it wasn't too busy and the service was acceptable

« Good view Good food »

We decided to have a meal at the Hatfield as the sun was shining and the terrace area looked so inviting . We both decided on Saug and Mash . It came with 3 saugs and lovely creamy mash and veg . It was lovely left you wanting more and only £9 bargain, We would highly recommend this hotel as all other food looked amazing as well

    « lost the plot »

Living in Lowestoft and having been here many times I was so disappointed with the food on our last visit this used to be one of the best restaurants in Lowestoft great food large portions although expensive but worth it. Not any more penny pinching portions. Quality of the burgers are worse than a burger van. There are so many things wrong with the food I haven't got time to list them all. I will not be eating here again.

« Weekend by the sea »

The Hatfield Hotel is perfectly placed overlooking the beach. The hotel advertises free parking, however the car park is small and was full so we had to park on the road a good walk from the hotel. The bar and restaurant were pleasant as was the room and ensuite. Sadly the bed left a lot to be desired as it was creaky and lumpy - not a good night's sleep was had. When we checked out we weren't asked how our stay had been, the receptionist barely acknowledged us.

    « Proper seaside hotel »

I thought that the receptionist looked a bit stern when we checked in, but soon changed my mind when she gave us an upgrade to a room with a sea view, The rest of the staff were also equally pleasant and helpful and our room was very nice. There is a free car park across the road and very efficient wifi. The food in the bar and restaurant is good standard pub grub and we were given an unexpected discount on our food as we were resident. The bar sold excellent beer, Lacon's Legacy when we were there. There is a terrace overlooking the sea for when the weather is nice. Breakfast was not disappointing and overall we had a great stay in a proper seaside hotel and with a nice sandy beach opposite and a short walk to town Lowestoft has a lot to offer.

    « Perfect getaway »

Stayed Saturday to Sunday. The hotel was perfectly located and had its own car park accross the road. We had a sea view executive double which was spacious and comfortable although would benefit from a little updating. The view was breathtaking and I've included photos of this from various times of the day. The most beautiful was caught by chance when I happened to wake at 5.30am to a stunning sunrise. They had live music on the evening which was excellent. The staff are all extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious and filling. The bar itself was modern and comfortable. The bar staff very efficient wait times were minimal even when busy. Plenty of seating and the bank of windows meant the entertainment and the sea could be seen from the bar and restaurant areas as well as from the outside seating. I would return in a heartbeat.

« wedding and two night stay »

whilst the accesorries are a bit dated(linen ect)this was far outshone by the frendliness and the efficiency and quality of the staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Food excellant-the quality of the wedding was possibly the best i have ever been too.

« Fantastic place for cocktails »

Fantastic place to go ,great for breakfasts, lunch, afternoon tea is amazing, great range of dishes on there main menu or bar menu, lovely stunning sea-views from the decking area to enjoy a drink, fantastic cocktails on a Friday night with a great dj & fantastic atmosphere

« Restaurant poor service poor food awful and some not edible »

I booked a table for my sisters baby shower on arrival they showed us to our table a small table for 10 people, which we could not all fit round and eat comfortable. We asked for a bigger table and we're moved to the Library room. This lacked atmosphere as we were in there alone and no windows opened and on a hot night it was very stuffy. We waited over an hour between our starter and main course. When I asked about this they said a table on 15 had pre ordered so they had priority. We were not told this was a possible option when we booked the table. When the food finally came only 4 out of the 10 meals were edible. I had the chilli prawns which were over cooked and came with white bread dispite asking for brown. Lasagne was chopped pasta no tomatos very dry and taste less. Onion rings came out with a cm of oil in the bottom of the bowl. The prawn salad had about 5 prawns in it was more rosemary sauce than anything else. The one minute steak salad was chargrilled and we'll done. Not rare how it should of been. When we complained they offered a small discount but the whole night was ruined and such a disappointment we had family travel from scotland. For the weekend and was really upset by the lack of service. Will NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN

    « holiday made easier »

nice room with a sea view.very helpful staff who could not have tried harder to make our stay a good one. when travelling with my wife who is disabled and in a wheelchair plus my parents who are both nearly 90 years old this is all greatly appreciated. although there are steps inside the hotel leading to the bar and to the restaurant they have ramps to cope with this which the staff deployed for you.we also hired two mobility scooters nearby and the hotel happily found a place to store them close to the restaurant and the exit onto the esplanade. we will certainly return to stay ther again.

« Not the worth the money! »

On arrival the hotel looks lovely all the bar area has been done out and it's spotless and very modern! But once we got into our room we were very disappointed, too small for two of us, our curtains didn't fit the window right and their was a very funny smell. The rooms were definitely not worth the money! After the family wedding in the function room I stood on a needle that was just sticking out of the carpet! The morning after the breakfast was a huge let down very unorganised and an hour wait for our breakfast. But a brilliant weekend overall just a shame about the venue.

    « Family meal »

We booked late and was helpful with are booking .We changed from a 10 to a 8 was no problem. We had a beer outside while are table was made ready.are server was jodi was very helpful and smiling and answered are questions .We all said she was very good at her job. I had prawns in chilli was nice .had a sirloin steak was nice and a sundae for dessert .was nice .had a few beers and wine as well.only downside was the dj .for us was fine but fir are family in 60 was not good fir a family meal .was not a major problem

« total dissapointment and poor value for price »

On arrival I was ignored by the lady on reception while she busied herself with a cash box .then she greeted me with "yes!" not the most welcoming greeting I would have expected. sleep was almost impossible as the very small room 114 was unbearably hot and opening the windows resulted in very loud pedestrian and traffic noise. the hotel in my opinion is in need of refurbishment stair carpets are worn and threadbare.

    « wedding weekend dissapointment »

on arrival we were told our rooms would not be ready till 3oclock (fair enough), but once we got to the rooms it looked like they had just changed the bedding, everything else needed cleaning, breakfast was fair just single item portions NO BEANS on the menu, down stairs in the bar you can't go wrong, good helpful staff, larger is £3.50 a pint but its soft drinks, wine etc were they sting you. we were there for a wedding in the hotel, the wedding was down stairs in the basement, plenty of room for the party but no venalation so very stuffy, didn't help that it was a very hot weekend, please note if you arrive on a friday there is a dj in the bar and if you have a sea view you can hear it right upto midnight and then you have everyone afterwards still going to what ever time, so you get little sleep, morning after the wedding we all had breakfast together, 36 of us they couldn't cope, it took an hour to serve all breakfast and 2 still waiting,on checking out we had to make several trips to the car and on the final trip our key card locked us out b4 time and this happened to everyone, overall fantastic wedding with great family and friends just wish the hotel was a lot better for the money they charge, i could go on to be honest experience we won't be repeating

    « Bad lunch »

Family trip to Lowestoft for lunch ruined by an uncooked adult cod fillet (twice!) and unfilleted children's cod. Lasagne was great, burger very nice but if you have lunch here and want to eat together, avoid the Cod!

« Nice communal areas, room ok if ya don't like sleep! »

Overall the hotel was good, the location was great, staff friendly and it was clean. All was good, until we went to bed, the curtains were too short, so not dark enough as on the street side of the hotel. Then a buzzing started, it went on and on, we turned up the TV But still we heard the buzzing. After a while sheer tiredness, we did sleep, only for about 4hrs. Breakfast was good, no complaint there! Staff on the front desk, did give us a discount when we complained, which in turn started others who'd heard it complain. So if you like sleep and want to stay here, you need to be on the sea side of the hotel. View definitely not great from our room either! Not just the street, but outside the kitchen, where the staff smoke and chat!

    « Bar »

Have used the Hatfield over a number of years, but it seems to go downhill every visit. The restaurant is average and a bit over priced. It is the bar that is really bad, apart from the view might as well go to Wetherspoons. Long wait to be served, find your own seat and carry the drinks back yourself, it is not what you expect in an Hotel. Also found tables dirty. There seems to be a lot of staff doing nothing. Given the poor service the drink prices are very expensive. It is a shame as it could be one of the best places in Lowestoft to stop for a meal and drink.

    « Lovely Seaside Stay »

My Husband and I have recently stayed at the Hatfield for a few nights. After reading some of the other reviews I was a bit worried what we'd arrive to!, however we had a lovely stay. Staff were attentive, helpful and friendly, allocated car park just across the road (also free - which in my experience is rare for a seaside hotel), our room was large & clean and the breakfast was good - nice to be sat on the terrace area overlooking the sea whist eating your full English! The hotel is situated right on the beach - ideal for seafront/sandy walks and in walking distance to the town centre. Only let-down was our bed, really wasn't the most comfortable and needs a good new mattress.

    « One night stay »

My wife and I stayed here whilst visiting friends in the area. We had a sea view room which was nice but the standards of the hotel seem to have slipped a little since I last stayed here. The cleanliness was basic with poor lighting and little attention to the little things which make a place special. In breakfast it was ok but everything seemed to be hard work. My view is that hotels purporting to be around the four star mark which expect their guests to prepare their own toast in 2016 need to step up a gear.

    « Incredibly poor »

I visited the Hatfield on a Friday evening (as a non resident) as their bar and restaurant is highly regarded locally. This was around 8pm and I wouldn't of said it was particularly busy but I did count at least eight staff members behind the bar so I presumed they were expecting a busy night. It took at least half an hour to just get served. Clearly the bar staff gave preferential treatment to some people as they acknowledged our wait but still went to others who arrived after us. Due to the sheer length of time waiting we double ordered our drinks to save another wait. The bartender said there would be a short wait on cocktails (I didn't think four drinks could take that long) but I said this was fine. 45 minutes later they still hadn't arrived so I went to complain. The staff got defensive and, in my opinion, very rude although conveniently said they were then bringing our drinks to us. These turned out to be not what we ordered but due to the experience we left them and went elsewhere. I will never return to this bar and I would advise others to consider the far better options available closeby.

    « Never again »

This is the worst hotel i have ever stayed in. I had asked for rooms on the ground floor or with a lift we were given rooms on the first floor with lift access but there were 2 lots of stairs to reach the twin room booked for my mother in law & her sister. There was no milk or towels in the room, there was bedding thrown in the bottom of the wardrobe so couldn't hang up clothes, the windows had been left open & as was very noisy outside i needed to shut them but i couldn't reach i found a fold up chair in the wardrobe (not sure why this was there) & managed to hook over window to pull it shut. Found water in the kettle. Breakfast was good but small portions.

    « Deceiving »

The hotel looks decent from the outside (especially if viewed from the seafront) and looks rather grand when you enter reception/bar/restaurant - however that's where it ends. I only stayed for the one night on business and would likely avoid an overnight stay if possible in future. The room was fairly small for a double and the furniture and decor was very tired and drab. There were marks on the furniture where hot cups had sat and in general it was just outdated and could do with a refurb. On checking in the receptionist couldn't have been less interested, breakfast waitress even worse and the 'local' sausages were terrible. That said, I returned a few weeks later for a couple of beers and Sunday carvery which was ok but even this wouldn't be enough to sway me to stay again unless desperate.

« One night stay for a FrankieVallie and For Seasons tribute Show »

We stayed here two years ago so felt confident to return again for the show and three course meal and therefore booked bed and breakfast with a seaview room. We were put into room 204 which was very small with only one window but, still had the most amazing views over the sea and beach. At £95 you are obviously paying for the view because the room is so dated, old fashioned, very basic, needs a complete refurbishment, you certainly don't get any wow factor when you enter the room just a feeling of disbelief at the standard. As a previous reviewer said the new outside patio area and dining and bar areas are very modern and obviously money has been spent there but, come on, now you are part of Best Western you need to update the bedrooms. However, we thoroughly enjoyed the show and meal, apparently it is the first time the hotel has done this and we would certainly go again but please, bring your bedrooms in line with the standard and décor of the public rooms. Excellent breakfast cooked when ordered and very friendly waitress who aimed to please.

« very disappointed with our room »

we had room 201 which was in the front of the hotel which was not what l ask for the restaurant was ok again but no carvery on which we would have like the menu has been cut down in size the staff are great .

    « Regular stay over »

The Hatfield is a fantastic hotel. Next to the beach, and minimal walking distance to the centre of town. I would recommend this hotel to all, as the environment and professionalism of all staff is second to none.

    « lovely position »

O.K. hotel we only stayed one night the restaurant meal was very good, didn't have breakfast, very nice room we has twin although the beds were awful we felt every spring, lovely position, but a very tire hotel, staff helpful, waiting staff very pleasant.

    « Good »

Very good price and very good food, service was good and would stay at this hotel again. It has nice outlook over the sea and is walking distance from shops. Handy parking to the hotel. Internet was not that good in any area is the only down side of the stay.

    « Retirement Party »

The staff are fantastic The carvery was way better than expected but not worth £13. The room(the library) was average. No real effort made unfortunately. Overall it's lovely to go to for a meal. Didn't stay in any rooms so I can't comment but it's a beautiful building.

    « Lovely bar that's completely wasted »

Being a local resident living close to the hotel, I was delighted when the bar and restaurant area of the hotel got a big refurbishment. Somewhere lovely to sit and enjoy the beautiful sea views by both day and night and enjoy a coffee or glass of wine. NOT! What a complete waste of a brilliant venue. By day you go in to the bar, wait and eternity to be served by miserable staff who serve you eventually then are rude and unfriendly. During the evening ( unless you visit on a Friday) after about 9pm you are constantly asked if you are a resident. I was fed up of being asked this each time I visited the bar so asked a manager what time they served alcohol to non residents. I was told midnight. Safe in this knowledge I visited last week on a Saturday evening and at 10.36pm was told' if you're not a resident then you can't be served'. It's now happened on 4 occasions and I will not visit again.

« Well situated but room for improvement. »

Hotel Hatfield, Lowestoft. The location of the hotel is very good, close to the town and with the beach just across the promenade. All the staff were friendly, polite and helpful but it was very apparent that the hotel was understaffed and therefore they were struggling to maintain the standards expected of the three-star hotel. The standard of housekeeping in all areas was poor: sticky tables that wobbled when trying to eat, tea cups that were not washed properly, floors that needed cleaning. The carpet in our bedroom looked as if was covered by a layer of dust or was faded by age/damp. The top shelf of our wardrobe was thick with dust and spare bedding was dumped in the bottom with no protective cover to keep it clean. Our radiators did not work and the room smelt damp. This was certainly not one of the 33 beautiful rooms as described on the brochure/website. Breakfast was good. I had previously read comments that the evening meals were not good but the ones we had were surprisingly very enjoyable and well presented, with the exception of the carvery. It is a pity that whilst the hotel has many attractive features, such as a good area for outside dining and a special lounge/bar area, it is let down by a lack of attention to the details already mentioned. One feels that the management/ownership of this hotel (Best Western) are not checking that this hotel is up to the standard that one expects of a Three Star Hotel.

« Great hotel for a short break. »

Had a 5-day break in a lovely, sea-view room. The staff were all friendly and very helpful. Food was very good so we ate in the hotel each evening. Bar and restaurant were both very comfortable with lovely sea-views. Car parking was adjacent. All told a great stay.

    « Lovely place... »

We only stayed for one night, but both agreed, we would definatly be going back. The staff were really friendly, & helpful & there was no rush to get out of the room in the morning, I needed an extra hour & the were fine with that. The room was perfect for the night, the bathroom is seperate from the bedroom, but in the same room, only for us to use.. My only complaint & im pushed to find one, was the bath could have done with re-enameling,.seeing as im a shower user, it didnt bother me or alter my opinion of the hotel in any way.. The bed was comfortable, there was tea & coffee available in our room... & breakfast was perfect & plentyful..& to top it off...its right on the beach... :)

    « Not very good »

Carvery is half Decent. But they only have it twice a week now. And the day we visited was not the day so we had to choose from the menu My lunch was ok but the mashed potatoe was think n tasted awful My friend had scampl and chips they were dark brown. Like the fat or something needed to be changed. The price was abit much too Their carvery never has any mashed potatoe. Maybe just as well Pot of tea is not far off £5 for two I believe its the gt western now. Really needs to upgrade the restaurant

    « Disappointed by food »

Room excellent, but let down by the food. Carvery had ran out of veg by 19:00. Breakfast ran out of black pudding, waitress running around trying to do bar, breakfast and everything else so had to ask for coffee 4 times. Staff very pleasant and eager to please. Just let down by the food.

    « Ok »

The meal was saved by the lovely chips. The service at the point of pay was dreadful. Took time to work out bill without charging me for the previous customers meal. Then my three items which costed whole pounds came to a total of not whole pounds!

    « fantastic weekend »

Spent the bank holiday weekend here. Lovely, clean room and fantastic breakfast. Staff very friendly and attentive. Food lovely although service a bit slow at dinner. Amazing sea view, didn't want to leave. Would definitely stay here again.

« Not bad and getting better »

I was almost dreading a night here based on some of the reviews, but overall it was pretty good. It's a strange mix of tired and really impressive, the restaurant and bar overlook the sea, and with an outdoor terrace where clearly money has been spent, this would be brilliant on a sunny warm day. Sadly my stay coincided with dark clouds and cold. But that aside dinner in the restaurant was perfectly fine, big to in the room, and I'm told that they are next to be upgraded. They need it that's for sure, but the bed was comfy, a big tv, just needed a comfy chair to sit in.. I'd stay again

Good Value at winter offer rate, Sea front room excellent view, room OK although Queen size bed too small and mattress needed replacing. Breakfast limited choice - fresh fruit apples and oranges only. Service too casual, the dreaded 'there you go' and 'hiya guys' Would be very useful if hotel stocked maps of town as tourist office closed due to cuts.

« Popped in for lunch »

Nice looking place ,we decided to pop in for lunch ,went for fish and chips , and my friend had scampi and chips ,when it arrived the fish was upside down ,when I turned it over it was over cooked on the out side ,on cutting into it it smelt and was half raw ,showed staff and they took it away, after a while fish and chips came back ,another fish over cooked on outside, on cutting into this one it was all raw and smelt off ,we didn't complain again just left it .only things I can think of for fish to be like this, is it was cooked in over hot fat from frozen ,this as put me off ever eating again in the Hatfield .would give the food one star ,and hotel average ,staff are helpful and friendly ,but the cook needs to be trained or replaced .

    « Superb wedding venue »

We had our complete wedding day at the hotel and the day was truly amazing from the ceremony, reception, breakfast and evening buffet. Please read our complete review on Mortons bar at the Hatfield hotel

    « Lunch »

Great location, shame food and service was not of the same standard considering there were only a few tables occupied. Looking to find a good food and atmosphere for a regular get together, sadly it won' be here.

My partner and I stayed here recently, the hotel looks over the seafront with fantastic views, my only niggle was the carvery was sold out by 5pm and should have been served until 9pm and our breakfast was a protracted affair, but all in all, I liked it.

« Lovely hotel situated on the sea front »

My fiancée and I stayed at the Hatfield Hotel for two nights, over the Bank Holiday weekend. We arrived at the hotel around 3pm and were checked in very quickly by a friendly, informative receptionist. The room was lovely and well equipped, with a comfortable bed and ample storage space for both of us. The en-suite was very smart and cleaned to a high standard. We both slept reasonably well on both nights; however, the alarm clock in the room went off at 12am without any warning on the first night! Safe to say this woke us up in quite a frenzy! The breakfast at the hotel provides a reasonable variety of cereals, juice and pastries however, the service for hot drinks and cooked breakfasts was quite slow, on the first day. On the first morning of our stay, we both had full English breakfasts, we found the portions to be quite small and there were no beans on the menu, however, the quality of what we did have was good. We went to the bar on our second night, which has a lovely atmosphere and a wide range of drinks, at a reasonable price. The hotel is well positioned, right on the sea front and only a short walk from the town centre. The carpark is positioned opposite the hotel and although it appeared small, we didn't have any issues parking, even though it was a busy, Bank Holiday weekend.

    « seaside hotel »

lovely friendly hotel good team of staff eager to please venue overlooking the sea very peaceful good choice of food and plentiful really good value for money excellent for families in the summer as so near beach easy reach also for the broads and interesting places

« shame to see this hotel go down-hill »

Whils visiting Lowestoft this is the place we usually have a family meal with a good view and nice surroundings. In the past plenty of choice on the extensive menu, and one of the best carvery's - well not this time. Didn't get to sample the carvery as apparently the Hatfield's best asset is only available on a Sunday. The extensive menu has gone to be replaced by very limited offering, and when it did arrive the fish (cod) was hard to find amongst the batter and fish skin. At one point going to the bar to order drinks, with 5 people stood behind the bar (engaged in other activities), it took 10 minutes before one decided that they should see what the customer would like. Sadly unless it changes back to the original format will go to another hotel along the coast!

    « Hatfield Noise »

Hotel is reasonable for the price and the sea views are great, but wont be staying again as the Hotel had booked a Disco and Wedding party (If the hotel had told me there would be some noise I would have booked else where.) on the nights I stayed with the effect that I never got much sleep and had to go down to the reception ( no telephone in the room ??) at 2.30am to complain about the occupants above my room starting another party, loud music, etc. Breakfast was just about manageable. I must say I expected a better service from an established hotel chain.

    « Overnight stay - wedding venue »

We have just returned from an overnight stay at this hotel. We attended a wedding which was held there and I must say we were pretty impressed. Rooms were very clean and not at all tired looking, we could see the sea from our room although we didn't have what was classed as a sea view. Food provided at the wedding breakfast was of high quality and we both enjoyed a full English breakfast the next morning which was nicely presented, with plenty of choice on the menu and plenty of helpful staff. There is a very nice decked area outside overlooking the sea where there are plenty of tables so when the weather is warmer it would be a nice area to sit and eat outside. The reception staff were more than helpful, all in all we had a pleasant stay, and wouldn't hesitate in staying there again.

    « Disappointed!! »

We have been frequent, well more like 'locals' to the hatfield hotel for many years. Our visit today for a usually very good, value for money family meal was, well lets say extremely underwhelming!! The hatfield has recently been taken over by a chain of restaurants and subsequently the menu has drastically changed as have the invteased prices.... my advice to anyone planning a visit, please try somewhere else untill they sort out getting that quality and value for money experience that they built a reputation on, back

    « fantastic wedding venue »

A great hotel.Fab room, fab food, fab service.A totally good experience and the sea views are superb .We really enjoyed our stay and spent a great morning a short distance away in southwold.Would be good if the weather was conducive as there is a very large seating area with decking

    « A wonderful weekend »

Have just returned from a celebration weekend at the Hatfield with my family, with an age range of 3 years to senior. A comfortable hotel right on the sea front, with some sea facing rooms. As it was our celebration we were in the Elizabeth Suite, and the size and furnishing of the room enabled us to have a very comfortable sitting room for us all to gather. The food was plentiful and well cooked, though the evening meal was a little expensive. The staff were very helpful and accommodating and helped to make the weekend a success. Only problem incurred was on the Friday night, when there was a disco until 12 midnight and the family room was right over the bar.

    « What an improvement »

Well where do I start, I have been going to this hotel for a few years now and must say this was by far the best it has ever been. I am not sure if they have some new staff and managers but it has no question improved 3 fold. I came with friends on Wednesday for lunch and although really busy, got looked after by a lovely young girl at our table, and even got our food brought out by the manager, which was great to see. He even took time out to ask us if we enjoyed our meal which was a nice touch. They have a new menu by the looks of things which was very nice and had something for all of us. The food was excellent and really tasty, the chicken stroganoff was especially good. We will be back next week as usual and look forward to more of the same.

    « good view,shame about the food »

Called in here for a fish and chip lunch but it was very disappointing. The chips and the fish batter were both soggy, and why was it served on a sheet of greaseproof paper masquerading as newspaper? Well we know that it is traditional to serve fish and chips in newspaper, but not in a bar where it means that there is nowhere on the plate for tomato ketchup to go. The table and its' surroundings had not been cleared from the previous occupants and the floor remained dirty whilst we were there, although a half-hearted attempt was made to pick up the wrapper from a biscuit. But the view of the North Sea is always good, and the coffee was ok too. Doubt we shall be back for the food though.

« Not a nice place to stay »

I Alway stay in a bestwestern hotel when I'm away on business. Visited this hotel and would not go back. So outdated smells very weird can't describe what the smell is as you go up to the bedrooms ??very dusty in room , had scum marks around sink in bathroom and to top it off stood on someone's toe nail so obviously not been hovered. The cup on the tray was stuck down hence you can see the brown ring from the picture . The skirting boards were filthy and you can see this on the towel . I would of been better off sleeping in my car

« Lunch on the terrace »

We came to Lowestoft for the first time yesterday, we stopped off for lunch at this beautiful hotel, we had fish and chips, which was top notch, at just £5.95 each , deliciously cooked, chips were freshly cooked and well presented, portions weren't huge but that suited us . we sat outside on terrace overlooking the sea, felt magical sitting there,. nice clean toilets too

« BIG improvements needed ASAP »

As a regular to the Hatfield Hotel, to drink and eat, where do you start... I'll focus on the main ones: The bar staff are rarely available in the main bar area and when they are they are bogged down making coffee! More staff are needed. Many a time I have had to go to reception to ask to be served. It's a poor customer experience with no interaction from the staff and rarely a smile or word said, other than to ask for your money. One time I asked a member of staff if they would serve me, only to be told "yeah I can do" LoL Glasses have dishwasher residue all over them... gone is the day where glasses are polished. All the wine glasses I've had have white smears on the bases. Admittedly the staff try to polish them when they serve you... but time would saved in serving if they were clean when put on the shelf - again.. a staff shortage issue perhaps? A suited "Manager" seems to talk the floor but rarely becomes hands-on to help out. If only he would floor walk and ask they customers how they feel. Only yesterday he nearly took one of the bar staff away when it was busy. The tea/coffee is really crippling the bar area... it needs more staff... it needs someone at the bar all the time... if it's quiet polish some glasses!

« Room 112. The worst hotel room I've every stayed in »

The fact that this room is used suggests this hotel does not care about it guests. Words will not describe how run down and poorly maintained it was. They are prepared to invest in the bar/restaurant area to give a false impression of what condition the rooms are in.

« Great time at the hatfield »

This review is based upon food, bar and staff and we was at a wedding here so didn't stay in a room. I must say the food was great in the 3 course wedding breakfast. Bar drinks were reasonably priced and the staff were brilliant. So helpful, friendly and assertive. The wedding breakfast plates were cleared away promptly and staff all knew exactly what they were doing. Very professional. Such a credit to the hotel. Well done

« Excellent Value for Money »

The Hatfield Hotel in Lowestoft is excellently placed for a quiet stay with easy access to the wonders of Southwold, Norwich, Great Yarmouth and the Norfolk Broads. Although not highly rated, the restaurant served good quality food and the decking area to the front of the hotel would be ideal for sunny days. As a Best Western member, our stay was excellent value and we would definitely consider a return soon.

« Good facilities and lovely bar overlooking the sea, »

Over all a pleasant stay due to location and sea views but clearly they need more staff, long wait at check in and to order food the next day at lunch. The ensuite to our room could have been a little cleaner.

    « Good night sleep »

We booked for one night as we were going to a show at theatre and wanted somewhere close by. Car park across road......would not leave a car I was to worried about.hotel was clean and tidy. Our room was small but very clean and my husband was very happy as it had the largest TV we have ever seen in a bedroom! Breakfast was great, saussage was local and very nice.....I would have bought some to take home. Veiw was great right next to beach. Would go again. Good valve for money.

This week I booked a room under the Best western hotels winter sales offer. As per the offer single room £32.50, double room £37.50. But it mentioned double rooms with sea view, therefore I booked a double room for myself. This price includes breakfast also, absolute bargain! Mainly I deserve to visit Lowestoft because it's the Britain's most easterly place, specially the Ness point about 5 minutes drive from the hotel (separate review). I drove from Blackpool, about 275 miles took almost 5 hours. Easily found the hotel - always before start my journey I viewed the area in the Google street view, it's very much helpful to find the place - private car park for the hotel situated across the road. For a 33 room hotel, car park is adequate. Parking free for the guests. On my arrival welcomed by friendly reception staff. It's a Best Western hotel, but I couldn't see any signs about BW, other than some leaflets left at the counter about BW rewards program. I am a diamond member of the BW rewards, I decided not to mention it, definitely couldn't get any benefits here! Lift available very next to the reception desk. My room number 204 with sea view, reasonably sized, large TV with all essential channels, comfortable double bed, working table, tea/coffee making facilities, everything fine. Bathroom with shower cubicle - it's smallest ever I have seen! - spotlessly clean. Only annoying thing is sound of the exhaust fan in the bathroom. Wifi easily connected and fast. I had my dinner at the hotel's Mortons restaurant. Staff friendly and helpful but extremely slow service! I ordered soup of the day - Minstrel soup - as starter £4.95, Sirloin steak medium grilled as main £16.95. Soup served in a fairly large bowl with freshly baked white bread, simply delicious. Sirloin steak served with house made chips, flat mushrooms and salad, also fine. Surprisingly 10% discount given for the guests! (normally 10% adding as service charges!) Breakfast served at the same venue, I preferred full English, as per the order only served. Not buffet breakfast like other hotels. Breakfast perfectly cooked. Specially we can sit well covered sea view area and enjoy our breakfast, it's fantastic! Free newspaper - I ordered Telegraph - and on request shaving kit etc available from the reception free of charge. Checkout done smoothly. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel very much, it's simply relaxing!

« Coffee and cake with a sea view »

Visited the Hotel for a well earned coffee and cake after a bracing Suffolk walk along the prom in Lowestoft. Very smart lounge bar area. Staff welcoming. We had coffee and cake, selection of carrot cake and flapjacks. View over the sea is lovely.

    « Adequate »

We booked for one night last week but when we arrived the reception looked a little shabby & the furniture needed polishing. We had our doubts when we were waiting to check in & the receptionist was speaking to someone on the telephone, asking if they could come in & help prepare the rooms for guests that were arriving that day. We had booked a double room with a sea view but when we got to our room (Room 103), it was a twin bedded room & although it had a sea view of sorts, there was a large expanse of flat roof to look out on before the sea was visible. When I complained, they moved us to another room & then decided that it was already booked for the night so the manager offered us our original room (said they would change it to a double) & would reduce our bill. As we had travelled down from North Yorkshire, we agreed to that. We discovered later that the chairs in the room were so uncomfortable you could not sit in them for any length of time & the bed was extremely hard. The only redeeming factor was the lovely breakfast served by a very pleasant waitress.

« Someone upset the chef »

Six family members dined at the Hatfield on Saturday 26th March, considering we pre booked the table was very cramped right on top of a large party so we had to ask to be moved. We were given a better table but it was a bit dark, we had elderly and disabled members with us. At 1.15pm they had run out of liver - one rather peeved husband!!! The meals we had were hot and fresh, the waitresses very attentive and cheerful. Desert was another matter, they had run out of creme brûlée, but anyway made our order. Half an hour later still no food, the waitress went to chase it. Ten minutes later we had lost the will to live and cancelled the order. When we asked for the bill we were offered complimentary tea/coffee for the inconvenience, the manager was apologetic and was going to speak to the chef. Yes what we had was good but it seems the chef is a law unto his own. We will go back because the food was nice but it leaves you feeling oh dear will the chef have another off day.

    « Hard working staff »

Stayed the night due to working in the area, on arrival staff were pleasant and quick to get check in done, they have a decent sized car park across the road. The bedrooms are a generous size with comfy beds , but the TV was very small, the ensuite was ok with reasonable pressure from the shower but the window could have done with a blind for privacy ! Without doubt the highlight of my stay was the breakfast ( with stunning views of the North Sea !) although small they have used decent quality sausage, bacon which made for a yummy breakfast !

« Two Night Business Stay »

The hotel is in a very nice position on the beach/sea front. Work has been done to upgrade the lobby, bar and restaurant areas. Although I have only stayed in one room, as it was the most expensive I would imagine that the rooms are due for a makeover. It is a short walk to the town centre, and it is nice to be able to stretch the legs. Probably would stay again.

    « Dirty and cramped »

The location of this hotel is ideal - right on the sandy South Beach. Unfortunately the room was very cramped (I had to walk sideways to get past the bottom of the bed to the bathroom) and in need or decoration (scuff marks on walls, peeling edges). The ensuite was dirty and the shower controls were crusted with limescale and a little rust.

« One night in lowestoft »

Booked a Saturday night stay over at the hatfield hotel after checking the reviews as always and so glad we did, got no complaints at all .Room very cosy with very comfy bed, really nice bar and restaurant area with great food and staff very friendly as other reviews say, had a nice chat to Hollie on checking out saying how we had a lovely stay.Breakfast very nice too, not much else to say really just that people who leave bad reviews on this hotel are just people who like to complain about something or were just very unlucky, would definitely come back again and again. « Fabulous views. »

We stayed here on Saturday night, and after the confusion of finding us on the booking system, we went to our allocated room. It was quite nice, modern, good sized tv, great shower. Bad points were the curtains were too short, letting too much light in for sleeping, and the plumbing from adjoining rooms was really noisy. The fire alarm going off in the middle of the night briefly, -also spoiled our sleep! The Restaurant/bar is fantastic, and the food and waitress service was good, along with those wonderful views. More confusion in the morning, as i pre-paid, but was asked to pay again! I enjoyed my night here, and would probably go back, just a few niggles!

    « Afternoon High Tea »

Went for a lovely afternoon tea here on March the 9th. We was reserved a table with a stunning view of the sea and beach. The sandwiches and cakes were to die for and was very pleased with the varied selections. Staff were attentive and very polite, free refills of coffe and tea. All in all a very nice afternoon.

« Tea & Scones overlooking the Sea »

Stopped in for afternoon Tea & Scones.....see pictures Wonderful views of the beach and sea. Great to relax there out of season ......would expect that it will be very busy during high season. Lovely modern and spacious interior.

« Best Western Hotel was excellent till Friday night! »

Excellent hotel until Friday night when the constant thud thud from the conservatory noise, which couldn't be classed as music!! Reverberated through the hotel. Although we asked for the sound to be turned down, and assured by the receptionist this would happen it grew louder. Person concerned with producing this just would not turn it down to an acceptable level. As the evening went on it seems the volume grew louder. The management seemed unable to control the D.J. Not a good sign for guests. The beds were very comfortable, excellent sea view, all staff were smiling and very pleasant and helpful to deal with. Food is very good here. As we were here for a funeral the location was good. Amenities unable to comment on as we did not have time to use them Our rating of the hotel was to be 5 but the Friday night turned all the good points into negative

« Friday lunchtime carvery meal in restaurant »

We visited today for a lunchtime meal with friends, the carvery was excellent and VERY good value at £50 for four with drinks. Staff were very frindly and helpful There is also a very good all day menu. We will go again very soon.

« Great Food, Great Service »

We visited here last night for Dinner & We couldn't be more impressed with Holly. She was friendly, attentive and remembered us from Saturday Night. We'd booked for a meal but there was an events night & Holly dealt with us then too very professionally and made an annoying situation much better. The food was spot on, although my pet hate is food served on wooden platters :) I'll know for next time. We'll definitely go back soon. Thanks Holly xx

    « Nice meal »

We booked for 17 at short notice and they didn't flinch. We were seated all together with a view of the sea. Some of us had the carvery and others chose from the menu. All of the meals were delivered quickly and with a smile. Great service. Reasonably priced.
