"Wowcher Spa day experience"

V5343LIjaniceg, Cardiff, United Kingdom 17/07/2021

Ok, I know there is a pandemic, I know there are rules etc but this was not what I bought So anyways I bought a wowcher spa day with afternoon tea and bubbly as a treat for myself and my daughter. However if you are thinking of buying this - don't. The spa day turned out to be 1 hour to use the pool, jacuzzi and sauna. That includes having to get out, dry and changed ready for afternoon tea. So in effect we managed 40 minutes in the pool and jacuzzi. The showers in the ladies changing room were ice cold so trying to wash the chlorine out of your hair was painful. Now for afternoon tea. There was a wedding going on and I think everyone was focused on that. We were in a rather dated side room with a stained table cloth, tannin stained teeny tiny tea cups and the poor waitresses were getting so flustered. Ordered a vegetarian tea for my daughter and she received cucumber sandwiches and egg and cress. Egg is a bit of a nono for vegetarian! And what prompted us to leave early? A long black hair stuck to a jam doughnut. Advised the witness who apologised but said that they has more people in the kitchen so that was why! It's such a shame because even though it was a wowcher deal we were really looking forward to it. Spent more time driving there and back than we did in the whole experience

"Had better 2 star stays"

baggyboy26, Birmingham, United Kingdom 15/07/2021

We visited this hotel with our dog recently and was dissapointed with the overall stay . Our room was in the coach house located away from the hotel which had a large lawned area to to the front . Good location for dog owners . Room was large enough but I am sorry to say had not been cleansed thoroughly for some time by the look of it , there where cobwebs and dead spiders in the bathroom , wood lice crawling around in the room we had to get rid of 2 , towels which left more fluff on you when using and a shower which was cold and despite reporting on first day nothing was done to rectify it . Then we had a Steak meal in the restaurant Where the steak was so salty it was almost uneatable . Credit to the restaurant manager he did credit us our drinks after we commented on the meal . On a Positive the staff in the dining room where very polite and helpfull . Would we stay there again , sorry no , it was not in our opinion a 4 star stay as we have had better 2 star stays elsewhere.

"Friendly staff"

User 12/07/2021

We spent a very pleasant three nights at this hotel. Staff, receptionists in particular, were very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast. Our only problem was being woken at 4.30 am by a military group returning to the hotel - noise from heavy vehicles in the car park below our open window!

"Never again"

justineallen33, Boston Spa, United Kingdom 11/07/2021

We stayed at the hotel on the 10.07.21 and my god. The room as not very clean very drab. The bed was lumpy and the toilet did not lush probably. The worse of it was the fighting that was happening above us. There was a lady and child crying, there was a lot of door slamming and shouting and this went on for a while. I did call reception who did sort it out in the end. The hotel was very tired and needs a good clean. The breakfast- I've had better at a service station. The mushrooms were swimming in oil.

"Highly recommended!"

Mary C, Bromsgrove, United Kingdom 04/07/2021

This is a hidden gem for business/events, family parties and for couples. Great place, brilliant team, food, atmosphere all wonderful. Great value too. Recommended. Check out the clock in the bar. We'll be back. Special mentions: Lisa, Sheldon, David, Gavin, Isabel, Paulina and Lily. Thank you all. And chefs Tony & Nick :-)

"Lovely Sunday stay with my husband"

773louiseb, Swansea, Wales, United Kingdom 03/07/2021

We had a lovely time at the hotel. Our room was really clean and had everything in it we needed. All amenities we needed were in the room. We ate in the restaurant and the food was very enjoyable. Breakfast was lovely too. The staff at the hotel were all very attentive and helpful. We sat out on the veranda in the sun and enjoyed a couple of drinks before spending some tomd in the spa enjoying a swim and a sauna and jacuzzi. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

User 28/06/2021

Currently Staying here at the moment Room good Restaurant good Staff fantastic Area lovely with plenty to do. Pool is a complete letdown quite small but ok apart from the fact that even if you book a slot lots of locals use the pool making it unusable

"Fantastic afternoon tea"

User 26/06/2021

Very accommodating as the waitress we had could not do more for us. The afternoon tea was great value with lots of lovely cakes and sandwiches. Would definitely recommend and will be visiting again soon.

"Afternoon Tea and Spa"

User 22/06/2021

Arriving we were made to feel very safe and welcome. Nadia in the spa made sure that we had everything that we needed and all with a smile and a very warm welcome. The spa was spotlessly clean and was constantly being cleaned. The pool was lovely and warm and the jacuzzi, steam room and sauna were all open with social distancing in full force. With our package we had two hours to enjoy the spa before heading up to have afternoon tea. Patrick made us feel like royalty. The tea was served with lovely pottery and a pot that poured without dribbling and a nice cup of tea it was too. Not only were there sandwich's but wraps too and all really lovely and fresh. The scones were light and fluffy with clotted cream and jam and I was even given more cream when asked for. There was also a selection of very tasty cakes. Patrick was attentive without intrusion. What a brilliant afternoon highly recommended can't wait to go back again.

"Great price for a beautiful spacious hotel. "

Kathryn B, North West England, United Kingdom 21/06/2021

Nothing was too much trouble, the staff were all very accommodating. Fantastic food in the hotel restaurant, and very enjoyable Spa use. An hotel to be proud of by all involved, strict adherence to social distancing at all times. Would definately return if in the area. Well done everyone.

"Could do better"

Ben S, Hayling Island, United Kingdom 21/06/2021

You would have hoped that after at least a year's lockdown , that the hospitality sector such as hotels would make an effort to welcome guests back , once restrictions were lifted. Unfortunately, the Diplomat missed this opportunity . My wife and I stayed there in June 21. The room given to us required cleaning, there was urine in the toilet bowl. We obviously complained to reception via the phone.. the response was pathetic. The reception staff said that they would make enquiries and call us back.. Nobody did... In fact no one attended the room at all until we approached the reception to demand another room... Of course , Covid was blamed for lack of room cleaning, Diplomat paperwork insisted that health and safety of guests and staff were paramount... if this was indeed the case, why were toilets left without the benefit of a toilet flush.?. A very poor state of affairs, no one even approached the room following a legitimate complaint.. In addition, the hotel costs were fairly high... the hotel claims 4 stars, to my mind it rates only 2 . Find another hotel for peace of mind.

"Sheldon your a star and diplomat hotel and staff thank you"

jonathanhO4454MS, Llanelli, United Kingdom 20/06/2021

What an amazing place an amazing day we got married there yesterday it was spectacular. Sheldon who arranged it for us was a star absolutely recommended. Thanks to Paul for having us we had a great day and everything went to plan. The staff were amazing everyone and everything was awesome we had the best day ever. Thank you

"Great Hotel"

Simon L, Portsmouth, United Kingdom 15/06/2021

The recent refurbishment has been to a very high standard, everything is new! The room was lovely, bed extremely comfortable and bathroom modern.. with great shower pressure :-). The public rooms that we saw were all new too, bar area especially appealing. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Our only (minor) issues were (i) that we hadn't thought to book using the spa facilities in advance (we wanted to use the pool) during this Covid period (ii) breakfast finishing at 0930 on a Sunday morning might be a little early? Oh well, we will know for next time!

"Family Holiday"

Sparky1014, Winsford, United Kingdom 06/06/2021

Great welcome and in our room in minuets. Booked evening meal (excellent meal choice and dining room well laid out). Swimming in less than 30mins, nice pool and area all lift access, if you want. Nice terraced area's to sit and enjoy views, read and relax or play your own board games. We took our grandson for 4 nights swimming twice a day for over an hour each time. Great place to relax and unwind nothing is to much trouble for any member of staff all were great and made you feel special, each member staff had the time to ask how your day went and what you had planned for the next.

"it was nice"

User 31/05/2021

the spa was absolutely amazing though i feel the wet floor signs were redundant around the pool. staff were very kind and attentive and i had an overall relaxing experience. the food provided was nice although i feel they could have asked what the customer wanted.

"Lovely hotel pity about booking system"

claireb771, Swindon, United Kingdom 28/05/2021

Booked for 3 nights on business, specified a double room only to be given a twin, ok for the first night with beds pushed together but promised by the lady owner a double would become available the next morning that would be assigned to me and I could change rooms, arrived back to stay the second night at 4pm to be told “all the double rooms were gone” really?? So I again put up with a single bed, very uncomfortable nights sleep indeed, promised again for my last night a double would be available, when I arrived back on the second day for my third and final night I said don't worry, please just make the twin beds into a double with a double quilt and extra pillows, upon arriving at the room the double quilt and pillows were left on the bed for me to arrange! Housekeeping doesn't seem to operate very well here, no towel changes after leaving them in the bath as asked by the sign in the bathroom, no toilet roll refilled, so asking at reception I was given two rolls to take up to my room, somehow this visually attractive hotel with great facilities is being let down by certain staff members on reception and housekeeping, Patrick on the bar and Izzy in the restaurant are stand out assets of the hotel, customer satisfaction is their focus, nothing is too much trouble, and really cannot do enough for you and I thank them both for making the stay more enjoyable, the restaurant food was excellent so my compliments to the chef, kitchen staff and waitresses, if you're thinking of staying here don't automatically expect the room you booked, check and double check it first, oh and the annexe although refurbished is dog friendly so if you're allergic to dogs you won't want a room in this part of the hotel.

"Brilliant weekend"

Trish D, Waterlooville, United Kingdom 24/05/2021

Just returned from a weekend in Llanelli had a wonderful time, met up with friends, lovely meal together at the hotel, next morning enjoyed the gym and spa. Room lovely everything you want for a weekend away. We have stayed before and will again, All staff are brilliant.

"Muslim Wedding Ceremony"

User 24/05/2021

We had our Muslim wedding ceremony here under the current restrictions. Sheldon and the team couldn't have done more to make the day as special as it was. They all went out of their way to make it perfect for us. They've never done a muslim wedding ceremony before and they still managed to make it perfect for us and our families. We had afternoon tea made by the hotel and both families absolutely loved it. Leading up to the wedding, Sheldon was always communicating with us to ensure everything was well prepared and we knew what was going on. Would definitely recommend having any sort of events at the Diplomat and ask for Sheldon.

"Outstanding Service & Care"

LuLuMayRobyn, Pontypool, United Kingdom 16/05/2021

We booked in here very last minute after our wedding in England was cancelled due to lockdown. I rang up and was given a great last minute deal for bed and breakfast for five nights over the phone. I also explained we would be bringing our seven week old baby with us. The chap I spoke to put us in the biggest room so we'd have plenty of space. The room was warm and very large. It had two large windows with blackout curtains. There was plenty of storage space, a decent TV and lovely huge and very comfortable bed. The bathroom was also large and had a lovely big walk in shower with good water pressure. Most evenings we ate in the restaurant and the food was outstanding. We couldn't fault it at all. We tried a number of dishes including the steak deal which was cooked to perfection. We also missed Sunday lunch but the chef did us a carvery plate for Sunday evening. Breakfast was equally as tasty every morning with a full Welsh breakfast with a choice of eggs. The service in the restaurant was also superb. The staff were friendly, polite and professional. They were extremely good at making us feel 'spoilt' and cared for which we very much needed with our newborn and cancelled wedding. We loved chatting to the staff each day and appreciated being pampered. Again, the bar was a pleasant place to sit and relax with plenty of comfortable chairs and sofas to relax. The bar staff were polite and service excellent. We visited the pool in the spa which is small but clean and well maintained. Treatments were cancelled due to covid-19 restrictions. The decor of the hotel is dated but it is still clean and well maintained. Staff were very good at following social distancing, wearing masks and reminding guests to wear masks in public areas. (Except the owners to whom the rules apparently don't apply!) There was ample hand sanitiser and visible cleaners. We felt very safe during our visit. The area around the hotel is a bit lame so unless you have a specific reason to visit, or are happy to drive to visit places, or like us, are happy to bunker down in the hotel for a few days, I'd suggest you stay elsewhere. We would definitely stay here again for a pampering, relaxing break either as a couple or family and would highly recommend to others.

"Spring break in LLanelli"

User 04/05/2021

3 night break to visit family that was relaxing and the hotel worked effortless with the restrictions and provided great location, food at all evening and breakfast. Although the SPA was not available or evening entertainment we were still impressed with attention of staff and family staff .

"Lovely Hotel"

User 31/03/2021

I have stop here quite a few time because I'm a key worker...All the staff at nice and friendly the rooms are nice and clean..but the thing that lets you down is the food ...I think the chef in s rusing it so it's not cooked right..I have not had one good meal

"What exceptional staff and hotel"

SIB162, Essex, United Kingdom 16/03/2021

I arrived in the evening for a stay overnight with a funeral the following day. The staff were pleasant, helpful and generally very nice, all of this was during a COVID situation. They were all wearing masks and were aware of safe distancing while sill being professional and polite.

"Superb hotel - serving key workers."

Flashaah, Dorchester, United Kingdom 22/02/2021

I stayed here in January 2021 as a key worker. The building looks a little dated from the outside but the rooms are lovely and the staff are really helpful. During lockdown they were still offering full room service including breakfast - really rare these days!

"Funeral journey"

SouthWalesTeapot, Chester, United Kingdom 03/02/2021

We had to stay to attend a funeral early next day. The hotel was really clean, and I was quite confident that Covid restrictions had been observed. The room was very comfortable and warm. The sheets were crisp and there were plenty of sockets for devices.

SillyFizzy, London, United Kingdom 20/01/2021

Arrived late for check-in, had difficulty parking because of the lack of lighting in the car park. Had to ask about WiFi as it was not explained during check-in. Staff were polite but they did not seem to social distance and I noticed that not all of them wore face covering and also they shared the phone at reception - therefore unsure how Covid safe it was at the hotel in general. Room was of a reasonable size however the bathroom floor (disabled room) was very slippery so very dangerous. Taps on sink were wobbly and the plug was stuck. Shower water pressure was weak and could be a lot more hotter. TV volume only went down to level 5 which was a bit too loud for me as I did not wish to disturb guest next door so I ended up switching the TV off early; this was annoying as I could not watch TV late. On this occasion it was overall a bit better than some of the other Best Western hotels I have stayed.

"A fantastic weekend"

ballamerand, Greater London, United Kingdom 21/12/2020

Everyone really made a huge effort to make our weekend special. The rooms were great very clean and very comfortable. The food was amazing, well cooked tasty and nicely presented. The staff were brilliant especially Kim in the restaurant who went the extra mile to make sure everything was just perfect. Thanks to all the staff in such difficult times.

User 27/09/2020

Had a wedding here during covid.Every aspect of the day was perfect. Nothing was to much the staff was friendly the food is outstanding. The wedding day went like clock work every detail was done with professionalism. Worth every single penny. Will definitely be coming back for a party here as Covid restrictions was not allowed one. The honeymoon sweet is spacious warm and comfy to sleep in.

"Sunday carvery"

trudyd884, Carmarthen, United Kingdom 21/09/2020

Amazing experience. We were treated brilliantly from booking to leaving. Wonderfully attentive pleasant staff couldn't do enough for us. Incredible food which was reasonably priced. All in all a very pleasant experience in these difficult times. Thank you to all. Looking forward to returning for New Year's Eve

User 16/09/2020

"Worst Western! Covid safe...but only because it hasn't been cleaned since long before covid!"

kel_kitty, Stoke-on-Trent, United Kingdom 15/09/2020

As a treat for my birthday and after lockdown my boyfriend booked two nights in this nice looking hotel. The professional photos looked great, modern and clean but as always, don't trust what you see on their website! After a long 4 hour drive we were looking forward to relaxing for the evening, however we found our room was a twin and not a double like we'd booked. Not only that, it had a huge damp stain on the ceiling. We were offered a double room for an extra £200 and ended up being moved to another twin room in the extension. Great, new room, you might think, but nope. This one was dingy and grubby. We put our bags down and immediately went to Tesco for antibacterial spray and wipes. On cleaning the room we found the tap in the bathtub was loose so we didn't dare to touch it anymore than giving it a wipe. We scraped rubber soled shoes across the carpet to find a human hairball forming, thoroughly cleaned the tv remote of all the grime between the buttons, wipes and disinfected all surfaces but the worst part was the leather bucket chairs. We both used about 6 wipes that came out BLACK on them and then gave up and decided we weren't going to use them after that. There were posters all over claiming the hotel was covid safe and had been declared that by an independent team. I have little faith that team exists, either that or perhaps the team deemed the place covid safe as it hadn't had a deep clean since before the virus graced our shores?! Oh wait, I have a positive thing to say! There were plenty of hand sanitiser dispensers around, 2 metre floor markings and clear Perspex screens on reception desks. I won't say it ruined my birthday as I enjoyed the activities we travelled to Llanelli for but I certainly didn't didn't expect to have been cleaning to that extent. Grim place, avoid.

"Potential event booking enquiry"

Jones7778, Manchester, United Kingdom 10/09/2020

I have just got off the phone to a lady, who I found to be rude and unhelpful. I am looking for a venue in the area for a family members birthday next year. Was left on hold for 3 minutes, was told the date I was looking for wasn't available and if I wanted it the night before it would depend on numbers as they need to set up the night before for the wedding the next day. I have gave an estimate of numbers and told sorry can't help and she hung up, no thank you for getting in touch or hope you find something. Stradey Park were far more helpful and accommodating in assisting myself. In an age of where hospitality is struggling due to the pandemic a few more manners wouldn't have hurt

"Afternoon tea"

User 31/08/2020

Just returned from the Diplomat after visiting for afternoon tea it was fantastic one of the best afternoon teas I've had brilliant attentive staff and fantastic sandwiches and cakes we all really enjoyed and can't wait to go back

"Genuinely horrendous"

User 19/08/2020

Ok. I dont usually leavecreviews like this but this hotel is the worst i have ever stayed at. I am a gold member as i stay in a LOT of hotels even since covid 19 and the cleanliness of this room here was beyond vile. Not just reviewed by me either.. but after having a long funny conversation with a couple in the bar it turns out their room had never been cleaned either! They had uneaten complete round crisps on their floor!! And they hadnt even eaten crisps! Ever! In their room! How does that happen!? I had long black hairs on my bathroom floor and i am blonde and short haired! I had a shower in my grans house who lives in swansea who i was visiting as didnt want to shower or bath in the bath thanks! I did challenge this with the management but they did nothing about it and didnt rectify it. I had to personally sk for fresh towels. I stayed there 3 nights. I wish i had booked somewhere else. To then add insult to injury i was charged £74 for something i have had no idea about 24 hours AFTER i left... for a bill i knew nothing about... they made no attempt to contact me about this they just took the money out of my bank account and have left it there!!! Photos are if dirt dust and hairs in my room which were never touched. I recommend wrapping loo roll round remote and kettle handle as they arent cleaned. My 1st kettle had a hole the size of a tangerine in the lid and had to ask for replacement otherwise wiuld have 3rd degree brnt myself!!!

"Short Break in Wales"

User 14/08/2020

My wife and I have just come back from Llanelli in wales. We stayed at the Best Western Diplomat Hotel. A very nice and comfortable hotel, staff were friendly and very helpful Sheldon and Pauline were great helping us with dinner and breakfast menu food was excellent full marks to the chef. Would diffinately stay again.

"Nice Break in Wales"

TenerifeTopMan, Costa Adeje, Spain 22/07/2020

We have just returned after four lovely nights at the Diplomat. The two rooms we booked were huge with large comfortable beds, good sized bathrooms and clean. We didn't eat breakfast as we are not early risers, but the food we had that was delivered to our rooms was very good, and the staff friendly. We will be returning to Wales shortly and look forward to staying again.

"Sunday lunch"

JennyDo2014, Swansea County, United Kingdom 15/03/2020

Four of us had Sunday lunch in the conservatory and it was excellent. The service was good and there was a wide choice for the three courses. The vegetables on the carvery are varied and not over cooked. I would not hesitate to return as I know I would have a really good meal.

"Llamedos holiday camp"

User 13/03/2020

The hotel was fully booked for this event. The rooms were great, very good size and very clean. The food was plentiful and very good. Excellant bar, well stocked The staff were wonderful. They couldn't have been more helpful and cheerful. Nothing was too much trouble. looking forward to visiting again. 10 out of 10

User 12/03/2020

Staff first class although due to poor management staff morale very low not enough of them food inconsistent sometimes cold or just warm but you always get a smile from the staff and a big apology for the food which is replaced once it's gone through the microwave I feel for the staff.

"Llamedos holiday camp"

W1ster1a, Somerset, United Kingdom 12/03/2020

I attended an event over the weekend 6-9 March. I knew there was a going be a large number of people attending and wasn't really sure what to expect. The staff at the Diplomat were amazing. They were friendly, helpful, accommodating and just all around brilliant in the face of what must have seemed really strange. Although we didn't stay onsite what we saw of the hotel was clean and well run. The food was delicious and again they coped with large numbers very well. We will definitely be back, and endeavour to stay onsite this time. Big loves to all the staff, see you next time (Ps can I get the recipes for your veggie options?, I could have eaten the lot each night)

"Classic Car Clubs Sunday Lunch"

xklover, Swansea County, United Kingdom 12/03/2020

They catered well for quite a number of hungry car owners, friendly staff very good Carvery lunch with a good choice of food, kept fresh not dried up like so many Carvery restaurants supply. Friendly banter with the Waitresses & good service. an enjoyable experience.

"Fantastic Stay (Llamedos Holiday Camp)"

JP673, Lincolnshire, United Kingdom 11/03/2020

Stayed here for a four day event and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. First off, the Front of House staff were absolutely amazing. Friendly and helpful from the outset. The room was comfy and welcoming. Plenty of brew kit available, just contact the front desk if you run out. Loads of hangers in the wardrobe. Even a full set of drawers to unload the luggage into. An iron and board are available on request from the front desk. The bed was very comfy, I didn't move all night. Shower was adequate, mind you close the shower curtain all the way around to the shower head as the toilet roll holder is over the bath tub :-). The food in the restaurant was lovely for every meal. Breakfast was fantastic with omelettes and poached eggs on request. Plenty of choice for everyone. The evening meals were delicious too, again with a wide and varied selection. The bar is reasonably priced too, for a big chain that is. The bar staff were always polite and courteous. All in all I had a fantastic stay for three nights and am looking forward to booking with them again in the near future.

"Afternoon tea and spa"

User 05/03/2020

I brought my mum here for a present for spa and afternoon tea. When we arrived the spa manager was on reception. She didn't look up to welcome us. Then she accused us of booking the wrong day. She was really rude. We were allowed in eventually. The pool and spa areas were old and dirty. Being a trained spa therapist i am aware of the importance of keeping spa areas clean but this was filthy. Showers broken and hairdryer. Thank god for the lovely guy working in the restaurant and the afternoon tea which saved the day.

"Our wedding 14/02/2020"

User 22/02/2020

We had our wedding reception here and we can't thank Sheldon (the hotel manager) and his fab team for their continued hard work all day, you made our day, “one to remember”. Nothing was too much for Sheldon and his team, they went above and beyond to ensure not only us, but our guests had an amazing day! We look forward to coming back very soon! J&J

"Wedding guest "

"Christmas and Birthday Treat"

User 18/02/2020

Where to start! what a fantastic stay yet again at the Diplomat. The staff are so friendly and the food there is delicious. We stayed overnight for one of the shows - it was The Greatest Showman tribute act and they we just unbelievable. They even joined guests after the show in the lounge area and carried on singing and entertaining with our guests and visitors. Everything was just perfect. We asked if possible could we be checked in earlier and due to weather conditions we travelled earlier to be safe and our room was all ready. Whatever you ask for they will try and accommodate you 100%. Fantastic! cannot wait to return soon for another brilliant stay

"Spa and afternoon tea"

Lovely and relaxing spa. A bit tired but cant fault ot forvthe price. Afternoon tea with prosecco was fabulous..guy who served us couldnt do enough forvus. My second visit and wont be my last. Lost a star due to spa area being a bit tired

"Best afternoon tea around"

badgerswood23, Caerphilly, United Kingdom 15/02/2020

Well I have just revisited the Diplomat for a spa day with afternoon tea and although last time was very good, this time was a huge improvement! I wouldn't hesitate in recommending the hotel for afternoon tea and a great spa experience

"Good hotel, good facilities"

jonessb1, Northwich, United Kingdom 14/01/2020

This hotel is about a mile from the town centre, so it's walkable, but a taxi will only set you back about £6, unless you drive of course. In any case, the hotel has a range of facilities (including the spa, which I didn't use) if you want to relax on-site. The hotel is clean and comfortable and reasonably priced. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

"Birthday weekend spoilt"

wbarge2017, Cardiff, United Kingdom 12/01/2020

No hot water for 3 day stay and maintenance work carried out all day Saturday in room beneath us leaving us unableto relax. Spoke to management, no apology just yeah we have work being done underneath you and they have turned off the water, as mentioned, no apology, no rate reduction no offer to move room. Waitress overstretched kept forgetting drinks orders at breakfast. All told we was charged full price for a third of the service, a RIP off

"Boxing day carvery"

T8056QPsimonp, Pembrey, United Kingdom 27/12/2019

Had the boxing day carvery lunch and must say it was first class. The food was full of flavour and piping hot. The staff were very polite and attentive. 3 courses were perfect, butternut squash soup to start, roast beef and chicken from the carvery were tender and superbly cooked and cheesecake, chocolate orange torte pefect. Irish coffees in the lounge bar after. All in all a very pleasant afternoon

"Excellent stay"

Mikeyoung806, Witney, United Kingdom 23/12/2019

I've stayed at this hotel a few times now and have never been let down by the customer service received. The accommodation is good especially the coach house which is a little gem hidden away! Access to the spa/gym and 24hr bar makes working unsocialable hours away from home much easier. Royal (receptionist) is a massive asset to the company and has always gone out of her way to ensure we have a great stay. The bar staff are also very cheerful and make you feel welcome. Hope they all have a great Christmas and look forward to more stays in the new year. Llanelli may look small but it has plenty to offer.

Jerry-raff, Ammanford, United Kingdom 21/12/2019

We attended the Robbie Williams tribute night and carvery. We have been before and found it quite good but this time it was disappointing. The soup was nothing special, carvery was really disappointing - beef was tough and servings of meat were far from generous; there was a very poor selection of veg, just sprouts and frozen carrots wirh potatoes, gravy was served by staff with a ladle and tasted very much like it was not homemade. Christmas pudding was nice but the measly spoonful of brandy sauce tasted bland and was cold and lumpy. The service was okay but nothing special. The tribute act was ok but ideally was expecting a bit more, some audience participation would have been good, and I felt an hour was a bit shirt for then show given the price paid. The disco afterwards was lacking, do clearly wasn't reading the room and pretty much everyone left early. It was such a shame because the evening promises so much but delivered so little. I definitely wouldn't book an event here again.

"Poor customer service"

Deanna Y, Swansea, United Kingdom 12/12/2019

I booked a spa afternoon with tea for my sisters 40th birthday, I phoned the hotel several times throughout the day of which they didn't answer, I was trying to book treatments for our visit. When I finally got through the staff member said the spa beautian wouldn't be in I was too late in requesting the treatments. No where in my booking confirmation did it state a timescale of how far in advance I had to request extras. Not only the above it was more the attitude and lack of customer service provided. I cancelled my booking and went to St Brides, Saundersfoot instead of which I have visited many times and never fails to give good service. Such a same local customers are not valued by this hotel/ spa.

"Great Staff"

User 10/12/2019

Have stayed many times in at the BW Diplomat has in the main been memorable the staff very helpful indeed rooms are very clean and tidy, not used the Spa but Im told its very nice indeed December have see many party's at the hotel because of the music location I expected noise but not so the management announce what's on each week along with cut off times for the music a very nice touch indeed

"Christmas party"

Lorraine K, Carmarthen, United Kingdom 09/12/2019

A good evening was had by all but a few things spoilt it. The venue is stunning. The portion size of the starters was unbelievable. You needed a magnifying glass to see the pate!. The lady next to me sent hers back and was then presented with a "normal" size portion. Carvery was average, deserts were good. Staff appeared to be confused as to where they were serving. A lot were youngsters who seemed daunted by the crowd. In spite of this the ABBA tribute band set us all in the mood for a fab evening.

"A Good Location for a Layover"

Highly recommended. Great service from all the staff, very good room. Excellent food at a very reasonable price. A good place to relax in at the end of the day. Cannot fault and will definately use again.

"Worst smelling chip shop in Wales !"

User 14/11/2019

I went to the Diplomat today to check out its potential for a future wedding. Well all I can say is, it stank of cheap frying oil. Now I have been in some ropey fish and chip shops across the UK but this was bar far the worst smelling one. I walked into the dining room and all you could smell was the rancid oil from the Kitchen. Going by the smell I dread to think what the quality of the food is like, if it smell like that mid afternoon. How you could have a wedding reception there puzzles me. Even if you could get used to the smell, I would pity the bride trying to get the smells out of her dress. £5,800 for a basic wedding package to smell like McDonalds - no thank you

"Diabolical service and food"

User 10/11/2019

We booked a table for Sunday lunch at 12.30 and had to ask 3 times if our table was ready and then just guessed that it was on the fourth attempt. When we went up to the bar to get some drinks the service was appalling and we were ignored for a good few minutes as there was a young boy (clearly a family member aged about 10) taking up both there time instead of serving paying customers. We where told the set price for a starter and carvery and then dessert and coffee would be extra. The starter was a choice of soup or the most hideous buffet we have ever seen in our lives and heard other people commenting on how random and unappetizing the selection was. The carvery showed that no effort or care had been taken in preparing the food especially the vegetables. The carrots had not been peeled and where left in huge chunks also the food was not up to a nice hot temperature a good well made proper Sunday dinner should be! We waited for ages for our plates to be cleared as clearly again the family members meant more than paying dinners. When we had dessert I could not believe my eyes that in 2019 that a hotel is still using cheap squirty synthetic cream to apparently finish off a dessert shocking to say the least as fresh cream is not expensive at all. The thing I was annoyed with that my dad was paying as a treat for all of us and neither one of us had a nice meal or served like anybody should be when they go out to a so called “HOTEL” for Sunday lunch. I know one thing we will definitely be avoiding going there again and choosing somewhere that takes pride in there work and treats there customers how they should be treated as at the end of the day they would not have a job if they did not have customers!!!! Needs attention in every department and a simple smile from staff members would not go amiss and is totally free!!!!!

"Incredible wedding venue"

User 10/11/2019

We had our wedding reception here yesterday and Sheldon (wedding coordinator) was amazing, the to looked absolutely beautiful and couldn't have been happier with everything that he done for us. The food was delicious and the DJ played really great music. All family and friends had the best evening there thanks to Sheldon and the staff at the Diplomat.

DaveYrHenBeudy, Llanwrda 22/10/2019

We had our wedding here on Saturday. I cannot thank Sheldon and the staff enough for making our day so special. Sheldon was amazing from the very first day we met him to the end. He made sure everything went to plan helped us with ideas and suggestions and everything went very smoothly. Cannot fault it. The bridal suite is fabulous and our guests really enjoyed. Thanks to everyone at the Diplomat

"Warm and welcoming a lovely hotel break"

The staff were without exception absolutely lovely and so helpful. Small problems were quickly dealt with. Nice food, great spa facilities and fantastic music in the lounge bar on Saturday night. A really comfortable relaxing stay. We will definitely be coming back

"Left early due to problems"

19michael0461, Brighton, United Kingdom 09/10/2019

We booked a 2 night stay to attend a friends wedding but unfortunately we left after 1 night as our stay was interrupted as we were woken early by local building works. We had not been informed when booking that these works would be carried out during our stay and when we advised the staff why we were leaving early they didn't seem interested. We were left feeling somewhat upset and disappointed by what should have been a happy experience.

"Excellent service"

Matt J, Swansea, United Kingdom 22/09/2019

Ran a weekend event at this hotel. Excellent responsive friendly service. Food was great and I liked the spaces and places to hang out. I stayed in coach house - comfortable. It's a charming place from a people perspective - go and try it!

"Inaccessible, dated and underwhelming"

bagelobagel, Swansea, United Kingdom 22/09/2019

Right, where do I start. In short, this place is a bit of a dive, and has so many issues it's almost funny. They got on my wrong side before I even stepped through the door because of the stupidly steep and treacherously slippery slope I needed to use to get pram access from the lower car park to the entrance. My next accessibility obstacle was the stairs leading to the reception; I couldn't use their lift here because it opened out directly into the middle of a wedding party who were doing their speeches at the time (and the exit was covered by a table anyway). I went straight to my room after checking in around 6pm. There I was lying on the bed breastfeeding my baby when housekeeping just let themselves into my room. shocked that they didn't even knock, and unable to jump up to greet them, I simply watched as they casually strolled towards the crib on the far side of the room. I was quite clearly in no position to accept visitors, yet they were unapologetically insistent on dressing the crib even though I told them at the front desk I had brought my own. (Why on earth this couldn't have been done before I checked in at 6pm I don't know). Now to the hotel itself. The whole place as an awful 70s vibe; tacky and dated. Every room in the place, from the conference room to the restaurant is far too hot, presumably because the ugly AC units are all broken. The doors on the lift are also comically slow- they genuinely look like they are in slow motion when they open and close. Breakfast was particularly mediocre, but did come with bottomless weak coffee. Dinner would have been ok... if they'd have actually brought it, but sadly they forgot my starter. Carvery at lunch time was surprisingly edible, but was let down by the bizarre buffet-style “starter” course that included a cold selection of croquettes and spring rolls (none labelled). The breakfast/lunch restaurant is — let's say, eclectically — decorated with the cheapest decor imaginable; which tops off the atmosphere for a set of less than average dining experiences. I kept waiting for them to redeem themselves, but things just kept getting progressively worse. They would have got a 1, but for the most part, the staff actually were quite friendly. However, I genuinely hope I never have to stay here again.

"Afternoon Tea"

sospangirl, Llanelli 07/09/2019

How disappointing, had afternoon tea at the Diplomat this afternoon for my mums birthday. There appeared to be only one member of staff in the whole building, he took our order made the tea and coffee, ran the bar and was even checking people into the hotel. I think he may have even made the sandwiches, they had been slapped together with far too much "spread" which overpowered the filling which was only egg mayo, ham and beef which were garnished with a "lump of lettuce". After being served nobody asked if everything was OK nobody asked if we wanted anything else. The service was very poor. The selection of cakes was not particularly inviting either. The scones were cheap and nasty and the rest we took home for the children. So if you are thinking of afternoon tea go to the Stradey Park and give the diplomat a wide berth.

"Nice hotel but..."

fisherman44, Somerset, United Kingdom 04/09/2019

The hotel itself was very nice, and staff also especially the reception staff who went out of there way to be helpful The service very hit and miss Was very disappointed that we could only have our evening meal either before 6.45 or after 8pm, coach parties seem to have preference over meal times rather than other paying guests, so please be aware of this if booking, never happened to us before Servicing rooms on 2 days was terrible, having to ask reception for tea bags, milk etc and towels as nothing was done, toilet roll even left above the holder as they could not be bothered to put it on the holder, think some of the room attendant need training. Breakfast was good nice selection, evening food on most night was good, one evening food was barely warm, obviously not microwaved enough, and noticed one table complaint rather loudly that food cold and steak not cooked properly, we should have but didn't. Bus service stops right outside hotel but in the afternoons only every 2 hours, so had to use car a lot more than we had anticipated

"Not good value for money"

robertdwilliams, Exeter, United Kingdom 20/08/2019

Squeaky floor above our room. Hook missing in bathroom for dressing gown. Water escaping on floor around wash basin. Thin cheap toilet paper. Poor, cheap quality sausages for breakfast . However the staff were helpful and cheerful which helped make the stay more bearable.

We had our wedding here, and the whole process from start to finish was fantastic- all thanks to Sheldon. Nothing was too much trouble for him, and he would reassure me if I wasn't sure of anything. Everything was explained and discussed with us in detail. On the wedding day, everything went to plan, it was perfect. The room decoration was outstanding, just as we wanted. We were blown away. We can't thank him enough for everything he did to make our day so perfect for us. & also thank you to everyone else at the diplomat, to the chefs for the beautiful food, and the waiters/waitresses.

The staff were excellent and very accommodating - nothing was too much trouble for them. Royal was fantastic in helping with the preparations of the afternoon tea and on the day, Sheldon was also fantastic and very helpful. The afternoon tea party (For over 50 people) was held in the conservatory and it was decorated to a high standard. The food itself was very tasty with friendy staff and service as well. Overall, it was a very enjoyable afternoon tea with brilliant service and brilliant food.

We enjoyed this hotel. It is well situated for visiting Swansea, Gower, Mumbles and all the coast. We had a lovely, spacious room. There is a lift with good access. We had a retaurant meal on the 1st night, which was excellent, and ate in the lounge for the next 2 nights, All the food we had was very nice. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay again.

"Okay for the price but let themselves down"

Scottie530, Stansted Mountfitchet, United Kingdom 09/07/2019

The hotel looks reasonably good from the outside but as soon as you walk in you can see it's tired and in need of a refurb. The rating would Be better if small things were improved. I asked the reception to recommend a nice restaurant and the response I got was, “I wouldn't recommend any around here” baring in mind we were stood next to the entrance of the hotel restaurant! Our room was clean which more than could be said for the rest of the hotel. The till back has an advertising lcd screen. This was dusty and advertising Mother's Day which had long gone. The blackout on our curtains was smaller than the curtain and made it difficult to black out the room, our bathroom blind was jammed with no frosted glass, so other residents could see us in our room, the room had a suspended ceiling with poly tiles reminiscent of an office not a bedroom. We got one pack of biscuits to share and to top it off the maid walked in on us at 08:30 without knocking. The clock in the bar area plays a silly tune on the hour and the face of it comes apart and does a dance. It's like staying at faulty towers.

"Room 63 Coach House Wonderful room"

yazmikley, Staffordshire, United Kingdom 30/06/2019

Stayed here whilst on a bike tour of Wales, the room was recently refurbished and large and airy, loads of room to stash motorbike gear. There were proper LED reading lights on both sides of the large double bed, lots of accessible sockets with USB points on them. Ideal for recharging phones, cameras etc. The shower room was sparkling clean, the shower was a very large walk-in type of cubicle. The shower was powerful with plenty of hot water. There was a good size heated towel rail. The tv was a decent size to watch from the bed. There are privacy voile curtains on the windows coupled with thick black out curtains. All the windows opened to provide ventilation. There is a table and bench outside on the patio out front, for sunny days. The food in the restaurant was reasonable priced, very tasty and good sized portions. The bar had an adjacent balcony with comfortable furniture on. The drinks were reasonably priced and the bar staff attentive and courteous. We looked at the leisure facilities but sadly didn't have time to use them, they looked and smelt clean. The breakfast was a buffet style, but had table service for drinks. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, we got the impression that they all wanted to give their guests the best stay possible. Shout out to the reception staff who on checking out, were interested in my views of the refurbished rooms and the hotel, thank you for asking. Another shout out to Isabelle in the restaurant for her discreet, attentiveness, and her professional manner. We didn't manage to catch the live music that she informed us was on in the bar as we needed to catch up on some sleep, but many thanks for mentioning this to us and also asking if our meal was fine. (it was)

My son and his fiance chose the Diplomat as their wedding venue. The whole process was superb in the planning and the delivery. Sheldon was brilliant, handling all aspects of the day and acting as MC. The suite was beautifully decorated in accordance with the bride's ideas, everyone commented on how great the venue is, the quality of the food and the attentiveness of the staff. "A pleasant surprise"

tigger69, Hampshire, 19/06/2019

I stayed at the Diplomat with friends for 2 nights. The hotel was welcoming and the rooms we had were big and extremely clean. The bed was very comfortable and the room temperature just right. The bathroom was huge with fluffy towels. There did not seem to be many other guests but it was a Sunday. We ate in the restaurant which despite 70's disco décor had very good food and excellent service. We had a free glass of prosecco with our first nights meal as part of our package. All in all a great break as it seemed to be the only place where it didn't rain in the uk . The only minor irritation was the lift which was very slow and no choice of tea bags in the room.

"Fantastic staff"

PeterH765, Llanelli, Wales, United Kingdom 18/06/2019

I'd just like to make it clear, the feel of the restaurant itself is dated. HOWEVER The food, could not fault. We chose a busy evening which seemed to come as surprise to the staff (which happens!). The wait for the food was a little bit longer than hoped but what can you do? Unfortunately for us the other guests at this time were not so sympathetic and chose to mock and moan while they waited for their food. I understand nobody likes to wait but this was ridiculous. There were 2 tables, 2 men in each who decided to have conversations about everything and anything, to each other, across the room. When the food eventually came they all decided to clap and ridicule the staff; If this was you, reading this, you absolute tools (polite). The way the staff carried on serving and rising above these idiots was perfect. They served everyone with dignity and professionalism (including the pompous, obnoxious, creatures). It's their service that will make us return. Well done to the team working on this evening. You deserve 5* and more!

"Poor Customer Service & Noisy Dated Room"

DeanDawn, London, United Kingdom 11/06/2019

We stayed at this hotel for two nights. Upon arrival we was shown a room which frankly should not be made available, it was dated, drab, had damaged furniture / fittings and the mattress is collapsed. We asked immediately for another room only to be shown Room 18 which was slightly better albeit for the mattress. During the night we was awoken by staff dragging furniture in the auditorium outside our window in preparation for the morning, the roof to the auditorium has an enhanced echo to it and when we informed management who was the director she told us you will ok tonight as they won't be doing that area for breakfast. Music was played until midnight on both nights during our stay so take some earplugs if staying in or near this room when events are on. We understand the business requires attracting the market so I didn't mention this to management. The next morning the maid opened our room door without knocking or informing us she was outside wanting to come in. We was getting ready to go out and I was fully naked and my wife was in her underwear, the maid observed us in this situation and made us feel very uncomfortable / embarrassed. When we informed management 'the director' told us simply she should not do that and sorry. We was gob smacked as this hotel put us in a dreadful position and all we received was verbal sorry. I thought they should of made some sort of effort especially for my wife, maybe some chocolates or flowers in the room upon our return would have been a nice gesture but nothing, just a sorry. It's a shame as for what we experienced I would have to find alternative accommodation when revisiting Llanelli.

Visited here on a Saturday night for a little get away with my partner when we 1st arrived we weren't expecting much, but as the stay went on it only got better, reception were fantastic and couldn't do enough for us! The food in the evening was absolutely fantastic think it was called the steak diplomat and was cooked to perfection! The entertainment made the stay! The gentleman on the keyboard and the singers all of which were locals I think were absolutely brilliant and a good laugh. The spa is lovely and may be the nicest temperature of a jacuzzi and pool Iv ever felt! Not the ritz but definitely worth a stay on a Saturday night for a relax and good night!

We have travelled quite a bit for weekends and holidays north and south of the UK and must say this is the best hotel we have ever stayed in. Only a 3 star but far superior to lots of the 5 star we have stayed in. Our room is spacious super clean and comfortable. Tge food is to die for, excellent taste from starters to the mains on point. The spa/gym is just what you need certainly worth a visit. All the staff is extremely friendly and accommodating could not ask for more. WORTH A VISIT. If your just passing by the area go in even just for a meal it you will not be disappointed.

"Noisy room set up during the night! "

User 27/05/2019

We visited last night and were shown to Room 18. Clean and freshly smelling, though slightly dated and ripped bedding. After spending an hour on the balcony enjoying a drink we retired. Unfortunately, we were woken at 1:30am by what sounded like furniture being dragged. This went on until 3:30am!!! This was very loud in our room, not to mention the squeaky rhythmic floorboards of the room above and the sound of a female moaning and whining! Now I am not a prude but we didn't all need to hear thanks very much! When we checked out we explained our poor nights sleep and noticed that the orangery had been completely rearranged and additional tables set up for the bank holiday! Such a shame that they chose to do it in the early hours!! There was little recognition of the furniture dilemma. I don't think we'll return.

Firstly we were warmly welcomed by the receptionist and very swiftly checked in. We had 2 rooms opposite each other 31 and 32. Both were clean and well equipped so no issues there. Only slight niggle was single beds but it was fine. Staff in the bar were lovely and served us quickly and politely. When more people arrived at the bar then more staff also arrived. Had a good nights sleep as the hotel was very quiet. Thank you for lovely service and a clean and well appointed room.

"Jersey Boys Tribute Night"

meinirann, Carmarthen, United Kingdom 29/04/2019

Came here last week with a friend for a Jersey Boys tribute night. We really enjoyed ourselves. Before the entertainment started, we had a meal, which was delicious. It was a buffet and there was a wide choice of hot and cold food. It really was very tasty. It was well organized and we were called up by waiters a table or two at a time to get our food. Dessert was a cheesecake, and waiters came round with this. The entertainment started after food, at around 9.15. They sang for an hour, had a 15 minute break, then performed again. I did feel it was a bit of a late start. I feel the evening should have started at 7pm instead of 7.30pm so that the entertainment could start earlier. Perhaps the entertainment could have started while we were having dessert? It was a very late night, particularly on a Friday when most people would have been at work during the day. They were still singing at 11pm, at which point we decided to leave as we were tired. A great night, just a shame it had to start so late.

"Going back to the 80's"

robinr883, Nottingham, United Kingdom 28/04/2019

A family bereavement forced me to look for an hotel local to the hospital. Booked a evening meal for 7.30 and ordered at 7.45 then had to wait till 8.30 for the meal to arrive, it appears only one chef on duty as a function was on elsewhere in the hotel. The room was dated bathroom was as well with hand rail missing from Bath side but the screws sticking out still. Could only get hot water from the cold tap. Decor elsewhere was dated and appeared stuck in the 80's Sorry but if I had booked this for a holiday I would have walked out within hours

"Family event"

h00ter1, North Yorkshire, United Kingdom 27/04/2019

We stayed for two nights for a family event. We ate in the restaurant the first night and had a good meal. Breakfast was buffet style which is not my favourite, but, I was pleasantly surprised on both mornings. A good selection, the hot was refreshed regularly so didn't dry out. The staff we dealt with were pleasant, friendly and professional. Our room was good, the queen size bed very comfortable and the temperature about right for us. The bathroom, while good lacked that quality of finish. Which was such a shame.

"Lovely overnight spa break"

FitzFamily23, Caerphilly, United Kingdom 20/04/2019

Just had a lovely night at the Diplomat, few little hiccups but the staff were great and sorted everything out. Very warm welcome at reception and excellent customer service. Very good dinner in the restaurant and although there was a little mix up over meal our very efficient waitress (sorry I didn't get your name) sorted everything out immediately. Had lunch in the bar and again the food was very good, excellent Chicken Caesar Salad. Definitely the highlight of our stay was the lovely Spa and again the very friendly welcoming staff. So relaxing and the spa facilities were well run. Looking forward already to our next visit.

"Spa and afternoon tea"

User 19/04/2019

We booked a wowcher deal for afternoon tea and to use the spa, it was nice we could use the facilities all day , before and after lunch,, Only downside was there were areas of the hotel that could be so much better with a touch of effort, but still enjoyed our stay

"Fab place to stay"

BojanglesKent, Kent 16/04/2019

We have stayed here twice now and both times we have not been disappointed. The rooms are great, the food is very tasty for breakfast and evening meal in the bar and the pool is very clean and warm. Great value too....worth a visit.

Definitely would recommend getting married here. Sheldon the wedding planner makes your day. He made our day so special. Made sure everything went perfect. Friends and families were also well impressed by Sheldon's work. He looked after us from the time we got there until we left

AndrewLHarries, Llanelli, United Kingdom 01/04/2019

Although not there strictly for just a rehearsal, this review is to confirm that the venue is an excellent location to catch up and meet with friends. The Diplomat is spacious and a wonderful place to rehearse.

"First ever visit"

francophile0236, Neath, United Kingdom 31/03/2019

We arrived early, and were warmly greeted by the staff. Our room wasn't ready, so Royal immediately moved our booking to another room which was ready. We had a very large room with 2 double beds, comfortable armchairs and lots of drawer space. Bathroom was massive, with walk in rainforest shower and double sinks. All was perfect. I needed to post something urgently and asked about nearest post box. It was suggested that I could leave it with reception, but when I spoke of urgency, Royal immediately offered to drive us to nearest post office as she was about to go off duty. All of this done with friendly smiles. Food in the restaurant was excellent, as was the buffet on Saturday..We were visiting in order to attend a funeral, but would definitely consider visiting again.

"Good Hotel "

Jsgibson33, Birmingham, United Kingdom 27/03/2019

Stayed one night and can recommend. Friendly staff, easy check in and lots of parking. Leisure centre was good with pool, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi all clean. Gym was well stocked even though the kit was very well used. My room was spacious, clean and warm with a very comfortable luxury feel bed(R19)! Main bar was well stocked and the food(Duck for me) provided a reasonable choice with pricing being £20-£30ish for two courses. Wi-fi was strong! Quiet location and an obvious choice for traveling working folk like me. £56 B&B with double bed is excellent value with all on offer. Tapas place at the end of the driveway looked interesting too. Breakfast was hot and tasty and there was a good choice of alternatives to cooked. Would definitely return!

Booked an early birthday for me and my friend at the spa with afternoon tea , have to say how pleasant and friendly Anjelika on reception is, she is just a little gem! Can't do enough for you, always happy to please, all facilities were fantastic, the afternoon tea was delicious, plenty to eat and drink, enjoyed so much I have booked for a family visit in two weeks time. The venue has ample parking, easy to find, everything was fab! See you soon.

The Diplomat hosted our wedding in June. Everything was perfect. Sheldon was amazing at his organisational skills and all the staff were on form. The food was outstanding, the evening room - outstanding, would highly recommend! Was truly the best day of our lives. Guests also expressed how it was probably the best wedding they had ever been at!!!

"Exeptional Spa Day with Afternoon Tea"

badgerswood23, Port Talbot, United Kingdom 18/03/2019

Went to this hotel for the first time for a spa day with afternoon tea. Upon arrival the receptionist was so friendly and helpful. She showed us around the facilities and nothing was too much trouble. We were a party of 10 and were all so impressed. The facilities were really clean, the pool temperature was perfect, jacuzzi perfect. There were plenty of beds and chairs. Poolside atmosphere was very relaxing. We were taken upstairs for afternoon tea and the waiting staff again were very attentive. We absolutely couldn't fault them. The level of service was exceptional! A great big thank you for this! The quality of our afternoon tea was exceptional and there was a large amount of cakes and sandwiches. I am gluten intolerant and my selection of food was just as good as the standard afternoon teas. Was so good we are going back!

JamesPhillips23, Swansea, United Kingdom 17/03/2019

We came to the hotel for a birthday party on the 16th. The venue is clean, could do with a little tlc but you can see it is looked after. The staff were friendly, helpful and full of smiles. The nightshift barman, Gareth, was really helpful and a lot of fun to talk to when we went to get water and crisps in the night. He was really friendly and when we got locked out of our room (which was often) he would let us in and made sure we had our keys. The breakfast was awesome and very well needed! Ganesly was our waitress and she was lovely and attentive to our every need. 10/10. Your staff are a great asset and a clear reflection of good management! Thanks Gareth and the bigger guy for being awesome, you rock guys!

"A Very Pleasant Hotel"

GOM99, Wherever 12/03/2019

Location: the hotel is about a ten minute drive from the motorway and is well signed and has good parking (the hotel was more or less empty when I stayed so all comments should bear this in mind). The town centre is not really walkable – there is a multi-story carpark right in the town centre - although we did manage to walk to the top of the hill to the Park Howard Museum and Gallery – worth a look for the history of the local pottery industry. Room: we had a nice large room with settee, arm chair, coffee table, desk, etc. There was a large, comfortable bed and well equipped bathroom. Bar: there is a large comfortable bar area – somewhat spoiled on our first night by some idiot shouting into his mobile ‘phone for most of the time we were there trying to have a quiet drink before dinner. I think that management could consider limiting mobile phones usage to the lobby rather than the bar itself. Food: the food was excellent – both for breakfast and for dinner. The rib-eye steak special being very good value-for-money and very well cooked; also the cockles and lava bread!!. One bizarre thing – when we were waiting in the bar someone (not the pest I refer to above) placed an order for an Indian take-away. Nothing odd so far! However, when it came it was served up in the hotel dining room! Now either the management is very liberal to its guests or this WAS the management. Either way, it shows little faith in the ability of the hotel's chef which is a pity because, as I have said, the food was very good. Staff: staff were all very friendly and helpful. Value-for-Money: whilst not the best value-for-money I have ever had – particularly given the location - the room, food and staff were all first class – so, I was content!

"Just what was needed"

amberdobber, Wales 03/03/2019

This imposing building set up a slope overlooking Felinfoel used to be the home of Brian Trubshaw the former Concorde test pilot. Consequently there are mentions of his name and his past in the restaurant and fitness suite etc. The building has been extended and refurbished since his time and now boast a feeling of calmness and tidiness about it with well appointed rooms and fresh paint and carpets. The food is excellent in the Trubshaw restaurant with the maincourses excellent and the service first class The leisure facilities are top notch with a small but deep swimming pool, Sauna, Steamroom and Jacuzzi. We as walkers were pleased to find a cycle walking track at the rear of the hotel that took you into town avoiding the busy road. The Hotel is set up for weddings and I can imagine it is well suited to that function with good facilities and space as well as ample parking

"Sunny wales"

Passenger35843578236, Henlow, United Kingdom 28/02/2019

The hotel is close to the M 4 also not to far away from the coast line. There is good parking but if there is an event on parking can quite difficult. Unless you can park outside the main entrance which only take 12 cars there is a step roadway to walk up or a flight of stairs

"Welcoming & Relaxing"

User 10/02/2019

Had a lovely stay here. The hotel is very clean and tidy. The staff are welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. The restaurant food is amazing, freshly prepared and cooked meaning adjustments for allergy etc is easy. The spa is lovely, very clean, compact but the facilities are great with lots of natural light. It is a little dated on the decor but I think that just adds to the charm. It is starting to show it's age a little in places and needs a little tlc but it's clear that maintenance is completed and the general upkeep of the rooms and building is good. Would love to come back again. Worth our 4 hour drive to get here.

"A ladies day for a birthday"

"Feel uncomfortable"

User 17/01/2019

I am a member of the gym, and used to enjoy using the pool and Jacuzzi. For the last year I have just used the gym. The reason is that there old men are always in the Jacuzzi in an evening. One of them approaches me and made suggestive comments. He is about 70 with grey hair. He states at all the women, watching them. I am upset that I cannot use the facilities that I am paying for. He is a creep and I am surprised that he is allowed to hog the Jacuzzi it is disgusting.

"One Saturday night"

John G, Leicester, United Kingdom 16/01/2019

I have taken a group of Rugby fans to this hotel on five previous occasions, it is four years since our last visit and I am pleased to say standards have not dropped. My room was clean, quiet and plenty of space with a good size bathroom. Very pleasant friendly staff, a great breakfast and I enjoyed a decent evening meal in the restaurant. The easy listening type group entertaining us in the bar/lounge were pretty good as well. Nobody in our group of 55 people found anything to complain about (other than the way our team played).

"Comfy and cosy"

helenlW8412SA, Cardiff, United Kingdom 25/12/2018

Stayed here over Christmas break. Friendly staff, cosy bar area with reasonably priced drinks. Food tasty and good value. Room we stayed in was great - large, clean and had a nice sofa area plus a desk so very spacious. We didn't use spa but nice to know it's there. Would have liked softer pillows and we did find the room quite warm, but overall it was quiet and very convenient. Would stay again!

"Excellent entertainment - This is not a review of the hotel rooms."

User 09/12/2018

We have visited the hotel 4 times this year to attend various tribute shows. There was a 'Faulty Towers evening', 'Adele and Ed Sheran', 'The Bee Gees' and most recently 'The Jail House Blues Brothers.' All the acts have been excellent. The evenings begin with a carvery meal. There has always been plenty of choice of food and it is delicious and well presented. The staff are friendly and are happy to take time to make the guests feel at home. The live acts are followed by a resident DJ. The tables are well spaced and there is a large dance floor. The atmosphere before during and after the shows is warm and friendly and if it's a Saturday there is often a small group performing in the lounge after the main event. If you are in the Llanelli area looking for a great evening out and great value for money, I absolutely recommend these events.

"Thanks for a brilliant week"

andrew t, Llanelli, United Kingdom 01/11/2018

Stopped for a weekend stay, which commenced with a very warm welcome from the receptionist. Got to our room which had 2 double beds, comfy armchairs for watching the T.V. or reading and a large bathroom with 2 sinks and an over the bath shower with a drench head. Breakfast was the now normal buffet style with ample selection to set you up for the day. Also had use of the attached spa/gym facilities.

"What a lovely way to spoil ourselves"

kmtudor, Carmarthenshire, United Kingdom 29/10/2018

On arrival we were greeted in the most warm way by the receptionist. We were early but our room was ready and we were shown to a very large room with a huge bathroom with a bath it was not only well stocked with the usual tea and coffee but nice smellies in the bathroom the room was comfortably warm clean and had two very comfortable arm chairs. Our lovely receptionist said that we were able to use the spa and our afternoon tea would be served in the restaurant at 1pm. The waitress could not do enough for us and was very attentive making sure that everything was satisfactory, the tea was delightful and very filling and the price very reasonable. That evening we were delighted by The Adams Family the entertainment was wonderful but it did seem a bit on the short side as it finished by 9.10 there was a disc afterwards which was good. The buffet was excellent and there was plenty of choice. All in all a great weekend, thanks to the staff at The Diplomat and the entertainers who made the evening.

User 03/10/2018

Want to thank Sheldon and all the staff at the Diplomat Best Western Llanelli. We hosted our daughters wedding day there on September 29th. We held the ceremony, day reception and evening event and Sheldon made it absolutely spectacular. We arrived on the Friday evening and left on Sunday afternoon after spending some time in the spa. Everyone from reception waitresses cleaning staff bar staff up to Sheldon were brilliant they couldn't do enough for us. Many many guest's came up to me throughout the day and night to say how wonderful a time they had enjoyed. certainly took the pressures of the bride and groom. so thank you so much all of you for making our weekend so special. "Superb Sunday Lunch"

An excellent Sunday Carvery Lunch in relaxing surroundings. Our visit coincided with the very popular annual Jazz Weekend which made for a highly entertaining afternoon and a vibrant atmosphere. Will definitely return.

"Lovely friendly hotel"

User 01/10/2018

Stayed there on a package for entertainment meal and room. Spent afternoon in the small spa centre which was small but fine with a pool sauna and steam room and you can ask the attendant to get you a drink from the upstairs bar. Room was fine clean and comfortable all the staff we encountered were very helpful and friendly. After the show (West End Musical) which was very good we went into the bar and enjoyed some of the locals who came up to sing all of whom were really amazing I was totally blown away with how good they were and made a perfect end to the night. After a great nights sleep we enjoyed a very good breakfast and again staff were great. We will definitely be returning.

"A welcome break"

sturdygirl69, Pembrey, United Kingdom 01/10/2018

My husband surprised me with a night at this hotel as they had a musical night on which he knows I love. We were checked in early afternoon by a lovely lady on reception and directed to our room. The room was pleasant and spacious and had good facilities. We took advantage of using the spa. A small but ample pool and a jacuzzi. My husband also used the sauna and steam room. Even though it's been recently refurbished apparently, it is showing signs of needing a bit of tlc such as rusting around light fittings by jacuzzi and broken tiles. The evening meal which was part of the package was a hot and cold all you can eat buffet. I chose chicken in a sauce with rice which was delicious and that was followed by a cheesecake, also really tasty. The entertainment was great and I did enjoy it. However, we found ourselves gravitating towards the bar area where there was a group of three bloody amazing musicians plus random people being called up from their seats to do vocals. Wow!!! They were fantastic! Apparently it happens every Saturday night and the singing was of all different genres with people who have been singing anything from a few months to many years. They were such a pleasure to watch and listen to and it was 1am and many drinks later before I climbed the stairs back to the room. Breakfast was lovely and very tasty, served by a friendly lady who I had spotted working late the night before and was rushed off her feet bless her. Thank you for great service! In summary a lovely night away, comfortable room and out of this world local talent!

"Diplomat - Delivered food and service at its best"

Gwenllian812, Carmarthen, United Kingdom 14/09/2018

We went for lunch in the Diplomat and it was superb, in a class above other establishments we have visited. The hotel has been refurbished and the restaurant is so fresh and modern. The receptionist accompanied us to the restaurant and left us in the capable hands of the lovely server. We were given our menus immediately and then a jug of water with ice and lemon arrived. This was a sign of great things to come. Our order was taken quickly and the wine arrived in a timely manner. The food was divine, my partner had the tomato soup drizzled with chilli and balsamic sauce and a hot bread roll. I had the asparagus, feta, and strawberries on a bed of cress. The main courses were chicken, triple cooked chips and salad for my partner, and the rib-eye steak with mushroom, and triple cooked chips garnished with salad for me. Both simply choices but cooked to perfection with quality ingredients. I can not praise them enough, the chef is a food connoisseur and we reaped the benefit. We had no room for desert, what a pity as the choice was fantastic. We will definitely visit again very soon. We were celebrating our anniversary, and the Diplomat ensured we did so in style. Thanks a lot everyone.

"Absolutely amazing experience for my wedding"

User 01/09/2018

Me and my partner chose the diplomat hotel for our wedding. We were drawn in by the fantastic deals they have on and the very good reputation. I'd highly recommend them for weddings and for everything else too. Our day was so easy and stress free due to Sheldon who was constantly making sure everything was running smoothly and everyone knew what they were doing. The food was absolutely amazing. The bridal suite is out of this world! 10/10 thank you Sheldon and the team for making our day so perfect.

"Disappointed "

User 01/09/2018

The kettle in my room was unappealing, the broken toilet seat hazardous and the TRAPPIT a new experience for me. A brief search on the internet confirmed my initial fear. I didn't ask to change rooms. Basic issues like this should be picked up immediately by staff cleaning the room. Kettles don't get like that overnight...

"Excellent wedding venue!"

User 01/09/2018

We got married yesterday at The Diplomat, and everything was absolutely perfect. Everything from the room set ups, decoration and timings were all organised by the hotel and the quality of the food was second to none. Wide variety of drinks availability at the bar and prices weren't extortionate at all. We got married in the conservatory where the room was bright and airy, and the evening celebrations continued in the large function room. The hotel rooms have been refurbished to a great standard. All the staff were friendly and helpful but we would like to give a massive shout out to the hotel manager, Sheldon, for all of his help since day 1 when we booked the wedding last year. The level of service has been exceptional and we cannot thank Sheldon enough for helping our day to be seamless. I highly recommend The diplomat to anyone looking for a wedding venue!

"Not amazing"

travellinghungo, London 29/08/2018

Reading all the raving reviews we thought this hotel was going to be good, but alas, it wasn't. Furniture tired and shabby, very late 1980s, I haven't seen anything like it. The facilities we saw were so tired looking that we didn't even bother with checking out the spa facilities. The room we stayed at was very old, bathroom mouldy with a very dodgy shower curtain, only one towel instead of two (promised to send one in, never happened). Our room didn't have heating and it was absolutely freezing at night. Bed was comfortable enough and room was quiet so other than the tired decor and the low temperature, it was ok. Food was ok, we only had breakfast and some food from the bar menu, pub standard chilli con carne. Breakfast is ok, not amazing but adequate. Staff are nice and chatty so that's definitely a pro.

"Fantastic hotel"

Anne T, Woking, United Kingdom 28/08/2018

I enjoyed a three day stay over the bank holiday. The food was FANTASTIC and the quality of service just as good. Excellent value for money in very comfortable facilities. The location is a great base to explore the Gower. Plenty of parking makes it even more accessible.

"Gorgeous lunch"

heleneWales1, Swansea, United Kingdom 19/08/2018

I had lunch with my friend in the Diplomat. We chose from a set menu but there was lots of choice. We both chose the diplomat mushrooms for starter & lasagne for main. Both courses were absolutely gorgeous. Soooo tasty. The service was also great & free parking is good. Highly recommend & I look forward to returning x

"Afternoon Teaor"

User 17/08/2018

Visited the restaurant for an afternoon tea as a birthday gift for a friend. Very impressed. Good value for money. Plenty of choice and good quantity. Service was very good. We were left to enjoy and not rushed at all. The minute we finished our pot of tea we were offered another one. It was very quiet when we went - only another 2 people. I would recommend this.

"Hired the Orangery room for a birthday bash"

ChrispyCurls, Llantwit Major, United Kingdom 07/08/2018

Very good service and staff wer excellent. Couldn't fault it. Food was excellent - the carvery option. Catering for about 40 people and the room was capable. Decent selection of drinks at the bar. The only thing that was a slight let down is the building itself is a little in need of a TLC - some chairs looked faded and sa lick of paint would go a long way. Nevertheless, the staff were friendly and helpful, so it didn't detract from the event.

Brianjameson1130, York, United Kingdom 31/07/2018

My room was okay, I stayed in the "new wing" and it was your average room and seemed clean. However I didn't have any towels or shampoos on either of my nights. The two gentlemen behind the bar sorted that out for me. I was dissapointed to find out that their cooling system was broken which meant that nothing on draught was cold. The food was quite nice but not what I expected at all from a hotel that prides itself on its dining. There was a tourist group that took up about 5 or 6 tables between two waitresses. The one polish waitress was frazzled and kept disappearing, one could clearly see that she could not cope. The other waitress, Jaden I think her name was, stayed calm and friendly amd knew how to handle her customers. On or second night, we ate at the bar because the group was too loud and though it be best to get a bar meal and we were greeted by a friendly, helpful and warm bartender named Gareth, we had a good chat and we ordered our food, drinks and dessert with him. The service was quick and painless and we had a good chat about what to do and see around Wales! I did a review prior to this one which seemed rather harsh as I was still annoyed by the issues with our room, the key not working and the warm drinks. However we probably did arrive at the wrong time and any other time, I reckon we would have had fewer complaints. I do think they need to train the other waitress a bit more and they should change those awful, dated and ruddy red carpets. Other than that 6/10. A big thank you to Jaden, Gareth and Gaving for making our stay that much better. Regards, Brian P.S my review titled "reasonably disgusted" was me overreacting a bit. But I did have some point that could be worth looking into

"Review of the Diplomat"

Dude_Incarnate, Cardiff, United Kingdom 30/07/2018

We hired out a room for our group of 32 people. Some of the white table cloths were dirty, the roof was leaking, a solid cake knife was left over from the last function, black covered chairs with holes in the fabric and a child's sweet left on the floor. Luckily we arrived an hour early and we sorted these issues out. All really basic stuff that should have been sorted out. The bar ran out of strong bow cider and several other drinks. On the up side the cost of the food and drink was just about right. The service at the carvery was good as the staff member was doing a good job. Also whoever was the receptionist was was friendly, polite and more than willing to help. Mistakes like the ones above should never have happened. They had more than enough notice to make sure of even a basic standard of service. Who ever was responsible for this I would of given their last written warning for gross misconduct. This hotel has a lot of potential yet to be realised.

"1 night stay, thank god"

User 29/07/2018

If I had booked for any longer than one night, I would be severely disappointed, seriously. Does not look like the pictures. Staff give the impression that they cannot be bothered whatsoever. No bottled still water available to buy at the bar! Room dated and drab. Paid for myself, partner and 7 year old daughter to stay for one night. My daughters bed was a fold out brown old camp bed (what the hell?). Room was on a scale of 1-10 about a 4.5 on cleanliness. You can hear everything through thin walls - trying to sleep can hear next doors television blasting - beds uncomfortable - both of us woke up with a stiff back One packet of biscuits containing two inside for a family of 3 - Milk sachets we're sour, so could not make a complimentary coffee in the morning - my partner went down to the bar to purchase two coffees around 9.30am - he was told the milk was sour and there was no more milk. You can have it black - is this acceptable ? We do not drink our coffee black sorry - and what kind of establishment has no milk at breakfast time - run out to the shop or is this too much hassle for them? Disgusting. Not only that - I was told they would price match at £89 when I came to pay it was £99 for this sorry excuse of a hotel without breakfast and the management left my complaints to the poor receptionist - not once did the management (who was sat behind a glass office behind reception) not once did they come out with a valid explanation or apology - Whoever is giving this hotel excellent ratings I would ask where have you stayed previously because this place is a dump with godawful customer service it is just not acceptable! Highly do NOT recommend Wish I took some pictures of the shabby place. Only a pic of the scruffy excuse of a bed for my daughter

Today I was the first to have the new menu. The Ham Hock was good, the Duck breast superb. Well done chef and thanks for a great meal. The hotel is good, comfortable and staff friendly. Excellent value for money

"Perfect pick me up after a long trek"

katie D, London 19/07/2018

I stayed here with a group, as we were doing a charity walk last weekend, walking The Gower Coastline. Room number 38 (2nd floor), was a nice size, with tea/coffee making facilities and very clean. The bed although not comfy to sit on, had no problems whatsoever for sleeping. The hot and cold water was a little bit temperamental, and due to the hot weather, the room was very very warm, but kept the curtains drawn and windows open. Also managed to obtain a fan from reception. Our meals were included for the duration of our stay, for which there was plenty of choice and the portions were plentiful. The staff were amazing and very helpful, especially Gainsley, who looked after us very well at breakfast and the veggie Glamorgan sausages were delicious! Overall I was very pleased with the hotel and facilities. It could do with a little bit of a makeover, but it was comfortable and it was lovely to sit and relax outside with a pimms, after a hard day walking. Cheers

"Walking weekend stay.. "

User 16/07/2018

Stayed here for a walking weekend. Great hotel. My room (36) was great. Very modern, clean and comfortable. A little hot but at the moment everywhere is! The hotel provided a fab when asked which really helped. Food was lovely and service great. Thank you very much to Ainsley (I think that's how you spell it) at breakfast. She was lovely and filled up our water bottles with ice and water. She couldn't do enough. What a star! Thank you. We will be back!

"Nice rooms friendly and helpful staff"

Tonythebedouin, Manama, Bahrain 09/07/2018

Hotel has been refurbished and all the rooms are of good quality. However there is no air con so can be warm in summer. We had a meal in the restaurant and the food although basic was good quality. The waitresses gave excellent and attentive service.

"Good food and bar/reception service"

ChiefRN, Bristol 04/07/2018

Location About 2.5 miles from town centre and not much to do in immediate area Room Disappointing at first, no air-con, no complimentary water (although when queried reception provided a bottle and a electric fan) Very quick and impressive action and many thanks. The single beds however were appalling and one of them was in worse condition than items i threw away from house clearance. You know the type when you hear and fell each spring!!. The shower was average but tricky to find best temperature. Rooms were generally quiet, at all times and were equipped with a good size TV and tea/coffee. Bar No draught beer but local cask ale was available at £3.90. The wine seemed to be very popular for others. Service was good although busy at meal times. Restaurant Good large restaurant with option to eat on the terrace or in the bar. The sirloin steak with onions and fries was terrific and a reasonable price at just under £17. Service here was pretty good also. Parking Plenty although there may be a steep climb for some. Misc Plenty of options for a weekend break with various tribute bands which look good fun and include the dinner.

"Mr Pothecary "

User 27/06/2018

So it's now past 10pm and I'm laying awake on a week day due to some party or prom taking place downstairs with blasting music. Arrived and felt like I'd arrived at Faulty Towers. The guy on reception (I gather he was only 3 weeks into job) covered the reception, bar and restaurant and tbh was clueless with no customer facing skills what so ever. I asked what time the gym opened, he guessed 8.30am! Even when I asked are you sure his response was I think so.... No one available in restaurant to order some food so guess what I was faced with the same member of staff yet again. Again clueless and that is being kind. Tried to order a drink and you've guessed it again he didn't know what he was doing with little support or help. I'm on a business trip and will never ever stop here again. Exhausted but can't sleep because of the noise downstairs and outside.

"Fab break"

paul13372016, North Yorkshire, United Kingdom 23/06/2018

My wife & I were part of a coach party using this hotel as a touring base for our recent break in the area. How glad we were to stay at this venue, we found the staff to be very friendly & helpful, the food was "spot-on" and as for our room (No.24), well we couldn't fault it at all, in fact the best hotel room we've had in a very long time. If we were to stay here again I'd defiantly try to get 24 again, ok there was slight traffic noise but the room more than made up for that. THANKS to everyone concerned for making our stay at the Diplomat so enjoyable.

"Spa day with the family"

nabrown149, Cardiff, United Kingdom 20/06/2018

We had a lovely day the receptionist at the Spa Nadia was very welcoming and couldn't do enough for you, we were brought teas and coffees on request, were also provided with clean gowns and towels. Afternoon tea was very nice and the staff were also very accommodating

"Friendly Staff, Clean Rooms"

fruitloopster23, Narberth, United Kingdom 11/06/2018

I agree with some of the other reviewers that some parts of the hotel were a little tired but our room was spacious, clean, the decor was pleasant and the beds comfy. We had a ground floor room to the left of reception, possibly number 40 which was handy as we were popping back and fore all day. It would be great for someone who couldn't walk very far (but the shower was over the bath) The first night the room was sweltering but the next day we found the radiator thermostat and had a much more comfortable second night. We ate all our meals at the hotel as we were there at a small corporate event. The portions were generous and the service good with plenty of choice at breakfast. I'd describe the food as decent pub grub. Every member of staff was pleasant and courteous.

"Poor value"

JonGam, Camperduin NL 01/06/2018

Very expensive, clean room with broken and leaking fittings. inflexible reception staff. Bar ams restaurant looked ok but did not use them. Poor value. Check in process was polite. Room was dark and having no fan or aircon available too warm. An iron in the room would have been useful had there been one.

"Another Great Stay"

LCA1, Somerset, United Kingdom 21/05/2018

I stayed here before and this time I was In another Location. I found It a little more noisy than my previous visit. I stayed In the wing to the left of the Reception area. Last time I stayed In the wing above the Lounge area. Again It was a pleasant stay. A little tad overpriced for the food but It was nice. Pleasant friendly Staff and always with a smile. The Evening meals was served from 6:00 but the doors never opened until 5 minutes later. Apart from that I would stay here again.

David H, Llanelli, United Kingdom 14/05/2018

Top class wedding venue in Llanelli - amazing from start to finish and would recommend to anybody, the coordinator was one of a kind with superb knowledge of his business and products and assisted at every aspect of the wedding from the initial enquiry till check out the day after, the staffing team couldnt do enough for everyone and the food was fantastic, the guests were stunned at the level of service provided by the venue. Big thanks to Sheldon for making the day perfect!

wyn2art, Llanelli 10/05/2018

We had breakfast at the hotel earlier this week .I was not happy to be served tinned tomatoes, and the scrambled eggs were terrible. Why a chef or cook can't prepare decent scrambled eggs beats me . I must add that the service was good

"Wonderful wedding"

Haydn J, Llanelli, United Kingdom 25/04/2018

This was just the latest of several recent visits to the Diplomat and on each occasion we have been bowled over by the experience. Excellent and imaginative food is served in delightful surroundings by professional and expert staff, led by Sheldon, who makes sure that every event runs like clockwork. Nothing is too much trouble and nothing fails to impress at every level. We look forward to our next visit!

"70yh birthday celebrations "

Louise B, Swansea, Wales, United Kingdom 22/04/2018

Stayed at the hotel for my not her in laws 70th birthday. 13 people in our party. Wonderful weekend everything was perfect the staff could not do enough for us. Lovely hotel rooms were perfect. Food was excellent esp the Sunday dinner. Entertainment was fantastic and we all had an amazing night. Made to at home and welcome. It was lovely too sitting on the balcony in the sun enjoying a drink or 2 and wpuld 're moment the baguettes and home made chips! Yummy! The hotel is in a great location not far from town . Definitely recommend and thank you to the staff for an amazing weekend and making my mother in laws birthday so special.

"Comfortable place to stay for work."

User 27/03/2018

I stay at this hotel semi-regularly when in Llanelli for work. It is located a short walk from the town centre/seafront, and a 5 minute drive from Parc Troeste. There is free parking in the carpark outside, however this can fill up quickly if there is an event at the hotel. It is a smart and functional hotel, with friendly, helpful, multi-lingual staff. The rooms are unspectacular, however comfortable and large. Upon finding any issues with a room, the staff have gone above and beyond to correct it. The hotel offers both restaurant dining and a bar menu, both of which I have found to be high quality. The Gym is small, however has the majority of what you need, however the Spa is it's crowing achievement, well worth a visit. The hotel is reasonably priced, however the value for money is fantastic.

"What's not to like"

DJ L, Brynmawr, United Kingdom 19/03/2018

Perfect hotel for the price. Lovely warm room, very comfy bed and a huge bathroom. Traditional breakfast served by cheerful and very hard working lady. All the staff were friendly and very helpful and the bar prices were not excessive.

"wedding anniversary"

turtlesNewport, newport 18/03/2018

Nice hotel with exceptional staff, stayed here for the weekend and you can tell this is a family run business very friendly and attentative staff, excellent meal in the restaurant. Entertainment was two elderly gentlemen who have a great rapour with guest and encourage you to join in, both with excellent voices, The lady and gentleman that I presume own the hotel run a tight ship , Cannot fault this hotel and will visit again in the near future, thank you all for a very enjoyable weekend, best regards Roger and Jayne room 41

"Steak Night"

User 12/03/2018

I stayed here on a Saturday night with my partner. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. The staff were very good especially Royal on reception. Who gave me the impression that she was genuinely interested in us. On Saturday night we ate in the restaurant. They had a deal on, 2 sirloin steaks and a bottle of wine for £40.00. The food was excellent. We had a drink in the bar which at over £4.00 a pint I thought it was a little expensive. The breakfast was very good too. The health suite was lovely but it had recently been damaged due to the weather . The sauna and shower weren't working but everything else was very good.

"Pool not opened and not told when booking room"

Alan B, Clevedon, United Kingdom 09/03/2018

On arrival we were told the pool was not open due to delay in refurbishment which has over run. We booked this hotel for a relaxing break and to use the facilities which we will now not be able to do.

"Nice hotel"

User 02/03/2018

Nice comfortable hotel ample parking places. nice free use of the pool and spa facilities, lovely warm spa bath nice selection of food in the restaurant good value as well varied selection of beers and spirits only criticism was bar areas and restaurant a little cold

"Total contrasts "

louiserog1, Haverfordwest, United Kingdom 25/02/2018

We opted to stay here as they allow dogs and we wanted to avoid overuse of the kennel. I'd not been here for years and had not seen the major addition to what was a fairly dated but well run hotel. The receptionist was polite and checked us in with ease. We went to our rooms felt a real mixed bag of emotion. The first room in the coach house was 61. Let's focus on that one for now. I was completely astounded that rooms like this still exist. In fairness, they'd put some modern furniture in which helped but........ ......everywhere would have benefited from a good dusting and a good lick of paint. The tiles in the bathroom along with fittings etc were out of the ark and were very poorly fitted. Cracks it tiles, missing grouting and scummy silicone. Towels that were left on first day were full of holes and they did not replace toiletries on second day. Room 63 that we had also booked couldn't be any more different. It was a beautiful and spacious room with quality fittings and decor throughout. A really impressive room that I'd happily stay in any day of the week! I noticed that we'd booked three people in to this room but there was only one double bed. I went to reception to ask for a z bed. I was initially told that I'd have to pay an extra thirty pound but this was rescinded when I pointed out our booked configuration. We opted not to pay for breakfast as it was being priced at over one hundred pound for my family for two days. I'm far from shrewd but couldn't justify this. We went to use the pool on the last morning and were very disappointed with what we found. Holes in the walls of the changing rooms, no soap in dispensers and shower gel holders. The pool area was full of visible damp and mould. The grout area of tiles was green around the pool, the jacuzzi was full of sand??? The windows were filthy. Kids and dog loved the outside area with football goal and trampoline. If I could guarantee a decent room in the future and convince the kids we didn't need to use the pool, then I'd possibly return. Huge potential with some significant work needed in certain areas.

"Excellent hotel"

Caroline B, Bristol, United Kingdom 19/02/2018

Can't fault this place. Friendly welcome from staff, spacious comfortable room, great food in the restaurant - Isabella the waitress was really good. Breakfast very good, everything we needed and all well cooked and hot. Really enjoyed our stay.

"Ok but a little tired"

RandRI, LONDON 11/02/2018

Stayed for one night and only real grumbles where it's a bit tired and a tad expensive (given it is only a three star). Spoke with others who had paid less but usually by booking in advance. Rooms spacious, comfy and clean (with a few signs of ageing). Small issues with leaky shower, cups that didn't fit saucers (which was actually a little dangerous), kettles you can't easily fill due to tap design and noisey doors. Plenty of parking, friendly staff & a reasonable breakfast. Atrium area adds a touch of class although noisy when it rained (and it does that a lot in Wales!). Would I go back. Yes but not at what I assume was full price.

"Nice Quiet Hotel"

LCA1, Somerset, United Kingdom 04/02/2018

I found this Hotel quiet and pleasant. I stayed here for three nights and It was not too far away from the M4 Motorway or Llanelli Itself. All the Staff were helpful. I did have an Issue on two occasions regarding the Breakfast but It came out alright after some waiting time. Apparently a lack of communication not knowing who was attending Breakfast was the downfall. The Reception area was lovely. The Rooms were really nice but the Hot Water In my Room just did not seem Hot from the Shower. Not sure If the Hot Water was running low as If It was being used, but I did not complain. Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Is served In the Hotel which was good. I did not use the Spa so I cannot make a comment on that. They do have a lift to take you to the floors which Is always good If you are not able to climb the Stairs or you have a lot of baggage. I liked this Hotel and would stay here again. Lots of Car Park space too.

"Enjoyable Visits"

suetherapist, Llanelli, United Kingdom 29/01/2018

We have used the Diplomat on a number of occasions, from weddings, tribute acts, and other dinner evenings. And I must say that the service help and family atmosphere which we have received has been second to none. All members of Management and staff make your stay so relaxing and enjoyable.

"Birthday overnight stay"

andreaevie3, Merthyr Tudful 29/01/2018

This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel. The hotel itself is lovely, food is great and the staff are really friendly. What lets this hotel down is the spa. It is separate to the hotel, so not the hotels issue, but the spa could really do with a good clean and spruce up. I was hoping to have received a massage but they can't get any staff to work there, the manager didn't ring us back to let us know yay or nay and although he was lovely didn't really seem all that bothered. On speaking to local members of the spa, it seems that the spa are reluctant to pay out for this to become a nice place to visit. Such a shame, but because of the spa, I probably won't rush to go back here.

"Birthday lunch"

Emyr P, Burry Port, United Kingdom 29/01/2018

I had attended a funeral wake here last Wed. and as that event was catered for to a high standard I decided to book a family Sunday lunch. The hotel is of a certain style of decol but maintained and presented to a high standard. No sooner we were given our table ISOBELLA introduced herself as our waitress and took our order. It is a carvery lunch and the chef was most courteous and pleasent serving us. The food was plentiful and the sweets were most enjoyable. Well done to everyone at the Diplomat for an enjoyable lunch.

"Extremely Poor customer Service"

chris4sarah19, Wiltshire, United Kingdom 28/01/2018

Booked a double bed for a single night stay, checked in to hotel soon after 2 Pm to be told that only 2 single beds were available. Receptionist was polite but seemed unable to help whatsoever, asked to speak to a manager but one was not available. I was told a manger would give me a call later that afternoon but no one called. I called the reception again after 6 PM but was told managers were still unavailable and too busy to speak to me. Despite us remaining calm and courteous there was no offer of a reduction on the room price, no offer of a complimentary drink or something to eat, nothing whatsoever to compensate the fact the hotel were in the wrong and ruined our romantic evening away. The hotel had their money for the room as it was pre-paid and knew there was nothing we could do about the situation. I told the receptionist (Tracey) that i would be writing a poor review on trip-advisor, I didn't get the impression they were bothered! I certainly would not visit this hotel again and would not recommend it to anyone either. Steer well clear of this hotel if you value customer service!

"Hard lump of plastic in my food"

shazt365, Manchester, United Kingdom 27/01/2018

The owner of this hotel is a joke I booked this hotel as I am I best western rewards member and we got a gift voucher for a stay with evening meal at a choice of hotels. The gift included a meal the starters were fine however when I got my main the second chip I put in my mouth I felt a sharp pain when I pulled it out of my mouth it was a lump of hard sharp plastic ! When the owner finally arrived nearly 15 mins after asking to speak to him he just said well it has never happened before ! U can have a free pudding it took him ages to even say sorry avoid not good service at all. We were booked for an extra night which I have cancelled going home in the morning would recommend you avoid this hotel if you like good customer service

"Baby shower"

aimeedav89, Llanelli, United Kingdom 23/01/2018

Had afternoon tea here for a baby shower back in sept 2017 lovely big spacious room ( we were in the conservatory) food was ok, only had sandwiches and cakes thought there would have been a savoury snack, the owner closed the doors as we were a little loud talking and there were people having food in the restaurant we didn't mind just made it a little more private, drinks were a little pricey but all in all we had a good time.

"baby shower"

annwilliams37, Swansea County, United Kingdom 22/01/2018

the table cloths were dirty there wasnt enough food for afternoon tea the childrens requirements were not met as we asked for white bread to be told they had run out the scones were hard and certainly not home made nor were the cakes as advertised on the website the cream was put into the old small jam pots which are served at breakfast so we have cross contamination there and tasted awful the roof leaked every where in the conservatory the day was lovely the food was just the problem wont be booking here again

"Afternoon Tea"

User 21/01/2018

Visited here for afternoon tea, as we arrived we were told we would be in the restaurant we were the only ones in there having cream tea everyone else was carvery as the conservatory was in use! Tea and food came quickly. What we were served with wasn't what we have had in other places 3 different fillings egg, cheese and tuna that was it!! Was very disappointed as it was just that and some cakes. Don't get me wrong the cakes were delicious but 3 sandwiches each was terrible. Other places offer other savouries and are cheaper. When we asked for more we had to pay extra and we also had some soup as they just didn't bring out enough! Very tight. We could see they were busy so didn't want to keep asking and that's what it felt like. We would maybe try the facilities again but definitely not for afternoon tea.

"Xmas Day Dinner"

Arrived in Hotel, warm welcome lovely ambience, cosy atmosphere The meal was lovely, very attentive staff. Had a great day no problems at all Owners should be proud, nice to see them helping to serve the food as well. Thank you Les and Pat

"Very Welcome "

Anna S, Guildford, United Kingdom 28/12/2017

Booked this for a last minute emergency stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful the party included vulnerable people and the staff were excellent in assisting. The disabled parking in right out the front. Rooms were excellent and glad to be able to get a twin room, not always easy to book.

"Enjoyed the evening meal for Christmas - bar one disappointment"

Andrew P, Swansea, United Kingdom 16/12/2017

Had a great Christmas meal with friends but unfortunately despot ordering a vegetarian meal, I was served with sprouts with bacon amongst them. The waitress said 'well you should have told me before I served them', but how was I to know that the accompanying veg had meat in it? I had wrongly assumed that as I had ordered veggie that the veg would be veggie for me too. It was all sorted eventually otherwise I'd have left. It was a great evening overall hence the ranking.

"Great staff and food, a relaxing break."

lydidad, North Yorkshire England 02/12/2017

As we had a delivery to make close by and having travelled 300 miles stopped here for the night. Beautiful festive lights and trees and we were given a room in the coach house as we brought our little dachshund. Usually stay at 4 star hotels but pleased with the accommodation and friendliness of the staff. Limited menu for dinner but super ingredients and well cooked. My sirloin steak was tender and juicy and chocolate brownie delicious. Breakfast cooked to order and OK. Continental not as varied and orange juice watery but again server happy to look after us. We can't understand the harsh negative reviews, one which mentioned the tap in our room only giving hot water. You just had to run it quite a while to make it cold. Beds comfy , room clean. Would have liked softer pillows but would stay again as nice to use the pool and spa.

"Fantastic Day"

jamie852, Swansea County, United Kingdom 27/11/2017

I attended a wedding on the weekend and we couldn't fault the Hotel. The Food was Excellent and the Staff couldn't do enough for you. An Excellent Day was Had by everyone. I would Definitely recommend the Hotel

evans333, Llanelli, United Kingdom 21/11/2017

was at a funeral buffet a few days ago,and the experience was nothing short of appalling.1 person serving behind the bar,and there were a few rooms in use with other functions.people were waiting 30 minutes for a drink.when we had the buffet, the food presentation was dismal.the sandwiches were pathetic.on examination the ham was thinner than cheap tissue paper. the crisps were damp and the sausage rolls had a very strange taste.the tea when served was cold and stewed.DISGUSTING,DONT GO HERE

"A really nice hotel"

User 21/11/2017

I arrived very late at night after breaking down and needing a recovery vehicle. I was met by a very friendly and helpful operative. The hotel is warm and welcoming. The breakfast is excellent. The room was spacious and comfortable. The staff went out of their way to help at all times. If your in this part of Wales then this hotel is a must. So far removed from the last best western I stayed in Croydon. Don't want to relive that nightmare. Can't speak highly enough. Thank you for a very pleasant stay.

"A week end of relaxation (I think not)"

mojoNorthWales, North Wales 20/11/2017

Evening meals were very good, breakfast average, staff were very good. Bed was uncomfortable and room extremely hot, even with radiator switched off. Didn't sleep much for both nights. 2nd night party went on until 2 or 3 in the morning and people arguing and shouting. Cars trying to get right outside the hotel entrance struggled to get up the steep incline and wheels kept spinning as if it was ice. Booking. com didn't give us the correct address and we ended up in a small estate full of houses.

"Breakfast finishes too early on weekends "

Judith S, Plymouth, United Kingdom 19/11/2017

Dear hotel, is there a reason why breakfast finishes so early??? This is the third time staying at the hotel due to annual party that takes place, and this must be the only hotel I've stayed in where breakfast finished at 0930am on a Sunday- depressing when most hotels run to 11am to allow guests to enjoy their facilities a little longer and have a lie in. Breakfast was ok, a little greasy and lacking variety. Spa area was good and swimming pool warm.

Paul J, Owner at Best Western Diplomat Hotel & Spa, responded to this review

Perfect location for touring South Wales. Ideal for both couples and families, however my stay was on business and I found the facilities great. Friendly staff and easy check in and out. Excellent leisure facilities and restaurants.

"Comfortable and friendly"

Baz B, Bathgate, United Kingdom 18/10/2017

We were visiting relatives nearby so did not stay much in the hotel itself. However a few points. Plenty parking space although the area outside reception is up a steep slope. I wouldn't like to attempt it in icy conditions. Check in fine. Unfortunately the lift was out of action for the three days of our stay. If we had had mobility issues this could have presented a problem. This is more an issue with the lift company though. Room was very spacious with a bath/shower and usual soaps and bubbles. We did not dine in the hotel as we were visiting but breakfast was very good. Due to there being fewer guests on Saturday and Monday it was waitress service but on the Saturday a buffet was on offer. The bar is well stocked. Friday and Sunday we had the place to ourselves but the bar man was attentive and friendly. Saturday night was busier with a live band. There was some participation from the audience which was very good and some impromptu dancing. I enjoyed my stay and would happily go again. There is a spa and gym attached but we did not get a chance to use the facilities. A good base if you want to tour South Wales.

"Hotel of contrasts: Serene and noisy, old and new, luxury and shabby"

windmillfan, Winterswijk, The Netherlands 22/09/2017

This former country manor with extensions is a part of the Best Western chain, and it's a spa hotel. Two good reasons for us to book it when we had something to do in Llanelli and decided to use it as an excuse to have a long weekend in Carmarthenshire. We did know that if we arrived late in the evening, reception would be closed and we would have to check in at the bar. But we were a bit taken aback when we arrived in ... let's call it a very lively place. There was live music, the place was packed, and it was hard to catch the attention of the people behind the bar. And once they knew we were checking in, they still gave priority to people ordering drinks, which we found a bit odd. They were friendly enough, mind you. Eventually they got us checked in, and we went to our room. The room was in the old building, not in one of the newer extensions. Apart from the newish-looking carpet the interior was quite dated, both of the room itself, and of the bathroom, including the furniture. The rather odd placement of a chest of drawers in front of a door was explained when we saw that this was a connecting door between our room and the next. I had my concerns about that arrangement, and I was proved right once we were in bed. Quite soon after the couple who had the other room came in, and ... well, I'll spare you the details, but let me just say that I could hear and understand every word they said, and could hear all that ... went on. The old beds were creaky, but comfortable enough. The same applied to the bathroom - tired, but perfectly usable. Just not up to the standard we're used to in Best Western hotels. Reception, the restaurant and the parts of the rest of the ground floor that we saw actually looked quite good. If the rest looked this good, it might get the hotel more stars. At first I thought that the question how good the different parts of the hotel looked, depended on whether they were in the old building or not. But after having seen and used the spa, I wasn't so sure anymore. The spa is in a modern extension, and the spa reception area actually looks quite good, with a luxury finish. But when go further, things go downhill. The male changing room looked poor. First of all, no effort was made here to go for the same luxury effect that was used in the spa reception area. I think that's a big mistake, because even though it's 'just' a changing room, the finish there does influence how people feel about the whole facility. First of all, the place is boring - everything is white, there's nothing nice about it. Secondly, there's a poor finish. Take the toilet. Instead of a decent skirting board, there's a cheap-looking plastic strip, which looks it was installed by someone attempting DIY for the first time (or someone who just didn't care). The walls next to the open walk-in shower area in the changing room have wallpaper that's peeling off (which idiot came up with the idea of using wallpaper in a room with open showers?). And some of the doorposts clearly suffer badly from a lack of maintenance, they're rotting away fast, something that I could see even without putting my glasses back on. Going into the spa the first impression is good, more of an effort was made here. The sauna has a temperature that I found a bit on the low side, but I know that Brits aren't Fins and they don't like it too hot, so that didn't surprise me. But then I tried the steam room. First impression was good - tiled with mosaic tiles, a good amount of steam, good temperature. And then I noticed some things. One of the corners is a safety hazard since it has tiles sticking out that are quite sharp. But the real hazard is a health hazard, because several mosaic tiles are missing, and I spotted wall tiles that had missing grouting. Both are health hazards because in a steam room these spots are ideal breeding grounds for bacteria. So the second day I only used the sauna, not the steam room. What's probably supposed to be cold shower across from the sauna and the steam room is actually more lukewarm - is that a British thing again, or just plain wrong? No idea. The pool is quite nice. Not very large, and if there are three people in there already you as a fourth are one too many, but if you get your timing right it can actually be quite enjoyable as a spa pool. Back in the changing rooms to shower, I find that there's something very wrong with two of the three showers in the walk-in shower area: as soon as I push the on button, hot water starts squirting horizontally from around the button - hotter than the water from the shower head. Another sign of poor maintenance, that really needs to be fixed. Having breakfast on a weekend day first, and then a weekday, was an interesting experience, the contrast was quite big. On Sunday the restaurant was packed with people having breakfast, but there were two waitresses, they were quick in getting me a table, and were very helpful. There was a wide range of breakfast foods, including a hot breakfast buffet (although when I got there fifteen minutes before the end of the breakfast period I had to make do with a few measly leftovers). On Monday it was a completely different experience. No waitress in sight, so after a wait I decided to pick a table myself. That, apparently, was a mistake, according to the waitress who then appeared I had picked an 'evening table'. Huh? But that's not all. Apparently, the hotel doesn't have a lot of weekday guests (not just the parking area was quite empty, but there only a few guests having breakfast in the restaurant). And I suspect the hotel doesn't want to go to too much trouble for just a few guests, because the hot food section wasn't in use. So I turned around, expecting a range of cold choices on the other side. Well, yes, the other side partially matched my expectations: there were cereals, some fruit choices, Danish pastries and croissants. Bread? Toast? No. No sliced bread, no toast. Er ... oh! I mentioned this to the (very friendly) waitress, and she got me some toast. I put some jelly on it, because what I would normally have topped the toast with, wasn't there - no cheese slices, no sliced ham or meats, basically no savoury choices at all. None. I later realised there might have been more possible if I had asked, but I don't know that for sure, because there was no indication that other things could be ordered - no menu for breakfast orders, no sign anywhere that said you could put orders in, and the waitress didn't say anything about it either. So who knows, maybe this really was all there was possible. Which in comparison with the day before was a lot more limited. I think this hotel is missing quite a few tricks. It's in a good location, being set back from the road a bit and not suffering from traffic noise so much, in an elevated position, on the outskirts of Llanelli. The old building has some charm, and this could be used to its advantage, but instead it's a bit tired. The modern extensions work quite well for the public spaces on the ground floor, but in other places even the modern parts of the complex are quite poor, mainly due to very poor maintenance, and partially due to poor choices of finish. This hotel could be so much more than a slightly tired three star. Such a pity, it's just a list of missed opportunities. Staff are really friendly, and I think that's what made up for a lot of failings, but that again makes it such a pity that the facilities aren't up to scratch throughout the place. Management, if I were you I'd get my act together and make this place as nice as it can be, fulfilling its true potential. You won't be sorry. Honestly.

"Generous hearted family own this hotel"

ClaireMLewis56, Llanelli, United Kingdom 04/09/2017

The Diplomat hotel allowed a Church group (who were in between premises) to use a room at the hotel for their Sunday morning meetings over several weeks. This was occasionally at some inconvenience to themselves, but they accommodated us with good grace and a generosity which deserves a mention.

"Visit to Llanelli"

dennissN8618CZ, Southampton, United Kingdom 03/09/2017

Good hotel, would recommend it, good value for money. Large airy room with good modern bathroom. Position on the outskirts of town made it quiet but still have facilities accessible. I would be happy to visit the hotel again

"Wedding Venue"

ljdavies2017, Ammanford, United Kingdom 30/08/2017

We had a magnificent day at this hotel on Saturday 26/8/17. It was our daughters wedding they could not have done enough for her and our son in law. Food was excellent in the day and the evening friends and family commented how lovely it all was. Staff were very friendly ,we stayed in a very comfortable room and breakfast was nice.

"A hotel of many contrasts"

User 29/08/2017

Booked this hotel at short notice for a bank holiday weekend. Wasn't sure what to expect and at first sight it looked ok and the receptionist was pleasant and welcoming. On the whole, the hotel was clean and the room I had, which was in the coach house annex, was reasonably good and roomy. Be aware, though, that there is a steep walk from the coach house to the main hotel building. You should also be aware that the hotel hosts events including live entertainment which may not be conducive to a quiet, relaxing break. The biggest issue I found was with the restaurant. On the first night, my sister and I waited almost an hour and a half for our food. I felt sorry for the 2 families with small children who had waited as long for theirs - and what had they ordered? Pasta, sausage and mash...hardly taxing for any hotel kitchen! The waiting staff were nothing but apologetic throughout but the restaurant manager did not make an appearance until eventually one of the families complained. And to make matters worse, the directors of the hotel were SITTING at a table in the same restaurant and did not do anything! And it gets worse...we ordered cheese sandwiches the following lunchtime only to be told the hotel had used all the cheese for the cauliflower cheese served at lunch...what hotel runs out of basics such as cheese EVER?? And that same evening, we went to the restaurant again only to be told the had no steaks AT ALL - in a menu that, for the restaurant at least, is 75% steak based (a whole page of signature steak dishes!). Basil Fawlty couldn't have made this up himself! And judging by the number of complaints I heard over the weekend, hardly any of the other guests were any more impressed. I could not fault the staff - they did all they could to apologise - but the management of the hotel (which I understand has been in the same family for many, many years) really does leave an awful lot to be desired. This is not an establishment I would willingly return to.

The hotel is ok. Is old but clean. The bedroom are small. The staff was super friendly. The breakfast was nice, standard and nice staff again. You have big car park and free access to the spa. Was little but looked clean.

"Pet friendly!"

User 28/08/2017

I stayed here very recently and very much enjoyed it. The staff were friendly and attentive and although there was an event on the night we arrived it had a nice relaxed atmosphere. My room was spacious and I was able to request a fan as the temperature had reached the mid 20's during the day. Dinner was served in the conservatory as we had the dog, which was beautifully presented and clean. Dinner was served a-la-carte. Very pricey, with my starter and main both about £15 each. The starter was a delicious fluffy goats cheese 'cheesecake' served with onion chutney; grilled bread and a small sauce of curried chutney. I picked the only vegetarian item on the main course menu and it was 'okay'. Although beautifully presented the tarts had an overwhelming balsamic vinegar taste. The fondant potato was delicious despite this. Breakfast was served between 7-9 and was a standard British/ continental breakfast. I had a croissant and some fresh fruit. I was also able to order an omelette with vegetarian sausages which I thought was considerate. The waitress was very kind and even cut up some bacon for my dog to eat! Which she happily ate and enjoyed even if she barked to show gratitude. Finally, as we arrived on Sunday we were able to use the spa on a Monday. Although a little bit shabby, the spa had all the basic amenities: steam room, treatment options, swimming pool, gym, jacuzzi and lounge chairs. I was able to spend 15-20 mins doing a few laps after breakfast which was nice. Overall I would say this pet friendly place was a good place to stay. I would return.

"Very old, dirty and unpleasant "

NomNonDisponible, Paris, France 27/08/2017

This hotel is very old, and the pictures on the site are not representative of the rooms. I have had the room 37 and the clothes of the previous customer were in the cupboard. (This is not supposed to be cleaned ??) You can hear your neighbors like if they were in the same room. The water temperature in the bathroom is boiling and suddenly cold during the shower. The swimming pool is very small, not clean and was smelling. The room in general was unpleasant and very old. The hotel clearly needs to be completely refurbished in order to be in accordance with the prices proposed.

"Stayed Many times never beed disappointed"

john h, Aberdare, United Kingdom 23/08/2017

Friendly and helpful staff. I've stayed here at least 4 times since 2010 and every time I've had a well furnished clean room , including one in the coach house. The bar area is smart and has an outside elevated terrace which is great on a summer evening. I've always been with a group on a set menu (with a few choices) and the food is well presented and served hot. The breakfasts are good. Bit of an odd location in the middle of a residential development but convenient for the local attractions

"Weekend away "

User 28/07/2017

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights eating here for the first night, had the steak special for 2. Sirloin steak was very tasty but the peppercorn sauce was not as good!!! Need more body chef!!! And lacked any taste hence us asking to mustard! We found staff on the whole very helpful. Check in a little slow!!

"Over-priced cafe sarnie"

User 21/07/2017

Went for a business lunch as it is a pleasant venue I have been previously for drinks. Ordered a ' handcarved gammon ham with wholegrain mustard sandwich' hahaha, I think this was a bit of a joke. The thinnest cheap bread with one slice a thin ham (certainly NOT handcarved) with a too generous smear of what I would describe as bog-standard English mustard.. Served with shop bought coleslaw and very unappealing crisps. For this I was charged a whooping £6.95... Never again...

"Average Hotel"

User 12/07/2017

The hotel is well situated with a view over the town but the standards in the rooms are only just average as the bath was dirty looking small beds in double bed in hotels the smallest should be king at least carpet looking tired and I'll fitted only half a roll of toilet paper in my opinion it would only rate as 2 star

"Awful "

sahz35, leicestershire 11/07/2017

I'm sorry but this hotel is awful, I travel a lot for my business and this rates as one of the worst hotels I have stayed in. Firstly I was put in a room within the coach house, a distance from the main hotel, it was raining and let's face it, who wants to have to walk up a hill in the rain to get some food? That takes me onto the food, just dreadful, even the olives were poor, and the oil was definitely some cheap brand they picked up from somewhere, and how do you get a Caesar Salad wrong, just vile. Plus they brought out my starter and main together! I mean come on, this is basics! The room cost £85 for a single room, I don't mind a single bed but the room absolutely stunk. It was damp smelly and cobwebs decorated the walls and ceilings. The walls are so thin that I could hear next doors bed springs. Seriously this is bad. I complained about both my room and meal in the evening and nobody seemed that bothered. The guy on the bar tried to be accommodating but was clearly embarrassed by the situation. I'll be making a formal complaint to the management I'm afraid.

"So little respect for the guests"

User 03/07/2017

I was there on business 2nd July, and was put in the conservatory. The temperature in there was approaching 90 degrees, but despite requests, and begging the owner and wife, refused to turn on the airconditioners - they have 2 fitted. Upon repeated questioning of staff - the reason was discovered - the owner did not want to pay for the electric used by aircon, despite the conservatory being charged for at a goodly rate. The whole of the public areas are dirty and neglected, old and shabby. The toilets are very poor, and need a good scrub. Also had Sunday lunch - it was very poor. The carrots, swede and cauliflower cheese had been boiled into a mwsh, and the large peas were like stones. No petit pois here!! The turkey was very good though - tasty and juicy, but the vegetables................. The whole place smacks of couldn't care less. Avoid.

bunnyrabbitCoventry, Coventry 03/07/2017

Perfect hotel for business or leisure. Fine building and very friendly staff. Excellent restaurant and easy to find location. Perfect if touring around South Wales. Comfortable rooms and reasonably priced.

bellissimaWalesU_K_, Wales U.K. 02/07/2017

Went to this hotel today for a meeting which was to take place in the conservatory however the owners would not put on the air conditioning. It was so hot we could not possibly make our appointment in there. How ridiculous. When we expressed our problem with the heat to staff the owners made themselves busy and left. The ladies toilets could do with a good clean ,the hand dryer did not work and there was no alternative offered. The leather furniture in the bar has drinks spilled over them and many more dirty marks I would certainly not stay at this place.I would prefer sleep in my car..

"Nice staff, but building could do with a revamp"

JJS101a, Peterborough 28/06/2017

Stayed for a few days in The Coach House - an annex in the car park of the main hotel. Bedding was clean and furniture was ok, but bathroom was rather tired and needed new fittings and fixtures / tiles etc. Exterior of hotel and grounds could do with some attention / maintenance. Spa / gym was nice though, and clearly quite new. No complaints about staff. Just a shame building looked like it had seen better days.

williamshannah123, Hengoed, United Kingdom 26/06/2017

We had originally booked to stay in the Stadey hotel up the road for two nights and was extremely disappointed with our stay. We passed this hotel on the way to the Stradey and noticed it had a spa and pool. On the first day after being very disappointed with our hotel we decided to come here, have a look at the pool and facilities and see if it was possible to use these. We were greeted by the loveliest staff, who showed us around, we were surprised to find that for only £20 per person we could use the pool and facilities all day, which we did. After being told our own restaurant was again full at 4pm, we decided to come back here in the night, it was again fabulous and the staff and food was brilliant. I have to say that we paid a lot to stay at the Stradey, to find we could have stayed here for less was a bit of a kick in the teeth and that this hotel is only a 3* whereas the Stradey is a 4* is crazy this a definitely more than a 3*. If it wasn't for this hotel our whole experience would have been completely different. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here, and would like to thank the staff for being so welcoming and making our break the relaxing memorable experience it should have been.

"Need more or better bar staff"

User 25/06/2017

Staying for 1 Night for a funeral. Popped in to the bar, the service was somewhat slow. By 20:30 it appeared they no longer had anybody serving. When you decide you are more likely to be served in a bar that's 10 minutes walk away than waiting in the bar at the hotel it tells you the hotel needs either more or better staff. Rooms are ok if a little dated, gym is ok but overall it's. It great value for the price.

"Not again"

User 21/06/2017

Found deal via best Western website clearly to fill beds. Booked under single accommodation but did get room with 2 beds so spacious. Issue is it was in the coachhouse due to elderly coach trip taking up the hotel. Room is dated, beds not too comfy. Window only open at top (small pane) 1 not usable as no latch. Bathroom dated also. Dodgy looking kettle with funny buttons, but did work Reception under manned as only 1 person on and long waits to be served. Restaurant ok, limited menu and expensive. Breakfast no fresh bread, toast only pretty cooked. Had to.wait for drink refills not left with tea jug.

"Lovely & relaxing spa day"

Taztrip2014, Swansea, United Kingdom 13/06/2017

We came here for my friends birthday, there was an offer on for a spa day plus afternoon tea. We then booked treatments as an extra. We arrived early & were welcomed by the staff. They were very friendly & efficient. They showed us around and got us settled. We then ordered tea/coffee which was quickly served & lovely. We all had a treatment each which we all thoroughly enjoyed. We felt lovely and relaxed after. Jess the therapist was lovely and friendly. We used the swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room & sauna, which were all clean and in good repair, unlike some we have been to. The afternoon tea was delicious. The best we have had anywhere. Plenty of fresh sandwiches, a selection of cakes, plenty of tea/coffee. We have a nut allergy and a few fussy eaters but nothing was too much trouble for them. We all had a lovely & relaxing day and would definately return. Thank you all for making our day relaxing and enjoyable.

"Last Minute break"

User 11/06/2017

We booked the hotel last minute as we had tickets to watch Jess Glynne in the Parc y Scarletts. Rooms were clean and comfortable with everything you could possible need for your stay. The hotel has a gym and a spa (sauna steam and jucuzzi) which guests can use for free and i think treatments are available for an extra charge. Breakfast was a full cooked breakfast, cereals or fresh danish pastries. We were inpressed with the selection and service we recieved at breakfast. Overall this hotel was great and we would definetly recomend it to others.

"It was okay"

User 10/06/2017

Had a meal there for sisters birthday, such lovely service off the staff, but the amount of money it had cost for basic food was a disappointing...needs to be improved. Didn't stay in the hotel as we live near by but would recommend staying.

"Really think before booking"

User 01/06/2017

We stayed for 5 days as a coach party and the food was absolutely disgusting if you like fish then you will be ok but not everyone likes fish and everything covered in sauce. Tea and coffee is always stewed or cold. Even if you are a coach party it shouldn't make any difference we are still paying customers. The staff are very friendly and try to accommodate you. The hotel rooms are quiet a nice size but the towel rail leaks, the toilet seat in some are hanging off, the mattresses are so like sponges they need to be replaced but very clean rooms.

"room amazing"

User 29/05/2017

We stayed in room 17 it was a suite and it was absolutely amazing. Best room we have ever stayed in. Food was great too. The waitress, Isobelle in the restaurant was lovely, could not do enough for us so too were the rest of the staff.

"Fantastic Murder Mystery Night"

heleneWales1, Swansea, United Kingdom 21/05/2017

I attended a murder mystery night last night & it was absolutely fantastic. The actors were amazing & it was a different format to what I've seen before where you just watch a show then read clues. The actors were sitting on the tables with us so the drama happened right in front of us. The 3 course meal was also beautiful, highly recommended x

"40th birthday treat"

went there today for my friends 40th birthday treat a spa day with full use of spa facilities and then afternoon tea later. it was amazing such a fabulous plce made to feel so very welcome. the pool was excellent and we spent lot of time in the Jacuzzi too which was very hot but so lovely. it was so relaxing and stress free. our afternoon tea was stunning from the sandwiches to the delicate little cakes which were awesome and delicious. highly recommend it and look forward to a return trip very soon. I am a amputee with a lower leg amputation but found it all very good the steps down in to the pool were ideal as o was able to get in with ease but also enabled me to get back out fine. thanks very much for a superb day such lovely memories to treasure.

"Wedding reception 6th May 2017"

sandragriffiths26, Swansea, United Kingdom 14/05/2017

Last week my son and daughter in law got married at the Diplomat Hotel, Felinfoel, Llanelli. I would just like to say how wonderful everything at the hotel was catered for. The wedding planner, a gentleman named Sheldon, was courteous, helpful and attended to all our needs. The food was excellent with the quantity and quality together with the presentation. Would thoroughly recommend this venu for any weddings. Well done Diplomat!!!

"Best Western"

Stayed here after attending a wedding at a nearby venue. First visit for us. The receptionist was polite and welcoming, the rooms spacious and immaculately clean, and very comfy. Car park right outside with ample room. Would defo stay again if required.

Afternoon tea with three friends. Staff were very attentive. Delicious and substantial selection of sandwiches and cakes. Unlimited tea. Would highly recommend and will definately be returning very soon.

"Popular spot with great views"

PaulGrr, Essex 27/04/2017

Located just outside of Llanelli centre in Felinfoel. Small entrance off the main road leading to a grand looking hotel and spa on a hill with a plenty of parking and views over Llanelli. Check-in was painless and there looked to be multiple events going on in the hotel - Not just for people spending the night there. On the second night a coach full of people were checking in, so a popular destination. Room large and comfortable and was only missing a few luxury items that you'd expect to find in a slightly higher end hotel (mini-bar, stationery, flannels etc). Did have free Wi-Fi for those that require it. Didn't manage to make a dinner appointment but did try the free breakfast - Was extremely busy when it opened at 7AM (a little late) and only one lady taking orders. Cooked breakfast was OK but without any real quality ingredients that I would have liked to have seen. I also didn't manage to take advantage of the spa and swimming pool facilities, which is a shame as I think that's quite a selling point. I have tried quite a few of the hotels in Llanelli and the surrounding area and had always wanted to try this one but it was out of my price range. For the deal I got it for, it was better than the other budget hotels on offer, but only just. Best Location - Travelodge (Centre) Best Room - Diplomat Best Breakfast - Premier Inn (Sandpiper) Best Cost - Travelodge (Centre)

the service from the staff was better than a 5 star hotel rooms were comfy clean etc. the amenities were amazing pool spa Jacuzzi I have no negatives.there was one blip boy behind the bar was more interested in the football than serving lots waiting when he was on his own .

Stayed here for one night with work. Check in was easy, rooms were spotless and the evening meal in the restaurant was excellent. Dinner was very tasty and very reasonably priced. The staff were all very young and very professional and friendly, they are certainly an asset to the hotel. I will be returning!

"Great Pet Friendly Hotel"

User 05/04/2017

Helped us out when the hotel we booked let us down and they found us a room in their cottage with our dog. Staff were friendly and served us breakfast in the bar area so we could have our dog with us. Brilliant, thank you for all your help.

"Nice Room"

willie43, Poole, United Kingdom 04/04/2017

Staff at this hotel were very friendly we were upgraded to a superior room which had a great big bed (room51) Spa as indicated by other guests needed some TLC. Water in changing room floors everywhere pool a bit cloudy . One bad point breakfast appeared to be more for work people hence breakfast finished at 9am we arrived at 8.15 am and selection was decimated with no one trying to tidy up 2 eggs left swimming in grease ,mushrooms burnt and black with what remained . I think someone from the kitchen should have done something about this ,what was left was barely edible.

"Excellent stay"

I have recently returned from a visit to Llanelli in Carmarthenshire, South Wales and can recommend the Best Western Diplomat Hotel where I stayed on my first evening. The hotel has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere when you walk in. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. I dined in the restaurant and found the food to be of a very high standard. I would recommend this Hotel to anyone traveling within this area will have a very pleasant stay iftbey choose this hotel.

"A 3* experience at a 3* hotel, do not judge a book by its cover!"

CynthiaClarke, Castlecomer, Ireland 21/03/2017

This is a Best Western Hotel in a Welsh town. If you are over critical it will ruin your experience but if you go with the flow and let the staff (who are lovely) look after you all will be well with the world. This is our second (family) trip and it ticks all the boxes for us, in terms of location for onward travel, closeness to Swansea for a bit of retail therapy (great selection of shops for general shopping) a good spa (including beauty treatments) and the restaurant which for me is this hotels saving grace! We had two evening meals and both were fabulous. Its a higgedly piggedly hotel that needs a bit of loving tlc in the form ofrefurbishment investment or a darn good manager to smarten it up around the edges (both seem to be lacking). Avoid rooms 51 and 43 they are at the end of the corridor and above the boiler, very hot!! All rooms face to the front with the car park/road so could be noisy with windows open. The bedding towels and hotel is very clean (beauty area needs a bit of a deep clean for my taste, being in the business). Pool was a bit gloopy when we were there (other reviews have the same comment). As I say a bit of good management would sort out the day to day issues! I would recommend and I would return! Welsh hospitality to be enjoyed!

"Afternoon Tea with Spa"

sheldon60, Swansea, United Kingdom 20/11/2016

Had an enjoyable time at the Diplomat having afternoon tea with full use of the spa. On arrival at the spa we were welcomed by a very friendly receptionist who explained the facilities and gave us gowns & towels. Changing rooms are on the small side but it was quite quiet at the time we visited so no real issue. Used pool , jacuzzi , steam room and sauna - found all to be fine and there was an attendant cleaning constantly. We were a bit dubious about having the afternoon tea in the spa - but all was good. Lovely selection of sandwiches cakes - more than enough for the two of us. Had a really enjoyable time .

"Sunday lunch"

Rhi0389, Carmarthen, United Kingdom 13/11/2016

I visited recently with an elderly lady it's dementia. The hotel is easy to find, parking is easy. The only issue is because it's built on a slope, my elderly friend found it difficult to walk. Once inside we were directed to the bar then through to the restaurant. We were offered menus to choose a starter but went straight for the carvery. The staff were brilliant and dished up a plate for my friend so she didn't have to go up herself. The meal was delicious. We had water and bread brought to our table. Dessert was also large and delicious! We went through to the lounge after for coffee. My elderly friend did say she felt cold and found it drafty while in the restaurant. Lovely meal, very friendly staff, fab atmosphere.

"Afternoon tea & spa"

Laura W, Swansea, United Kingdom 12/11/2016

Visited with a friend for spa and afternoon tea. Towels and robes on arrival. Female changing room floor was filthy and wet, mud, hair, needed a good scrub as were the sinks full of hair. Jacuzzi was awful! Luke warm, full of sand on the bottom and then floating around as the jets were on. Staff stopped people using it a couple of times. Sauna door needed a clean. Pool.... freezing! And hair, dirt and who knows what else could be seen floating on the top when the sun was shining in on it. Took ages to be provided with cold water as told they had run out of plastic cups. Afternoon tea however was lovely with nice selection of cakes & sandwiches. Just a shame at the spa environment. This is the third time I have been here, standard in the spa has dropped massively and I will not be returning. Very disappointing.

"Hotel lovely, spa needs improving"

Jen D, Bridgend, United Kingdom 08/11/2016

Stayed for one night with my daughter for a girlie spa weekend treat. The hotel room was lovely, spacious, clean and comfortable. The bar service and breakfast was lovely 10/10 no grumble from me there. The spa was good and massage excellent! The jacuzzi was broken so that was disappointing. The glass door on the sauna could have done with a clean (looked dirty) and there was floating bits in the swimming pool which put us off using on the 2nd day. When leaving the spa on the 1st day of our stay we waited for over 15 minutes for an attendant to return our towels so we could have our room key back. In the end I went to the hotel to ask for someone to assist, once with the attendance he was a bit grumpy with me and demanded the towels back. He didn't seem impressed that I'd placed them in the towel bin provided! It was almost as if he didn't believe I'd returned them! Other staff members were friendly and attentive. I would stay again but I really do hope the spa improves.

"It will do"

User 01/11/2016

Have stayed at this hotel on a few occasions, most recently in October. The hotel could do with being modernised as it has an old fashioned feel. The quality of the rooms seem to vary. The spa and gym is fine. The breakfast is good and meals are OK but nothing is dazzling. But most Importantly the hotel is clean and staff are friendly

We recently stayed in this hotel with family, the facilities were very good and we had a huge room, it was reasonably priced with breakfast included (which was excellent, cooked to order), my only grumble was that there was only one vegetarian option on the menu for the evening meal, however, I would stay here again.

"Well Done"

User 30/10/2016

Have not been here for about 30 years. Brought my dad and my uncle here for his 80th birthday. I have to say what a delight. The staff were wonderful . So attentive, and couldn't do more to help you. The food was very nice and could not fault. Thanks for making our day very special.

"Lovely Hotel"

GCHarris, Cardiff, United Kingdom 30/10/2016

Only stayed for one night. Wish we had stayed for more. The Hotel is rated 3 star, but I've stayed in 4 star hotels, not as good as this one. Staff were helpful and very pleasant. The room was very large, with a fantastic large bed. The bathroom, was exceptionally big. Room lovely and warm. Food was of good quality, and reasonably priced. Breakfast was lovely, with a very good choice. Would definitely stay again. They have a very good entertainment programme for the Christmas and new year, and we hopefully return to enjoy one of the nights. We were on the first floor, but the lift was out of action for the duration of our stay. This didn't cause us a problem, as I take the stairs, but it could caused a problem with less mobile customers.

"Much better than the reviews suggested"

User 19/10/2016

Booked it with a certain amount if trepidation as the reviews were not so good. It was excellent. Clean, tidy, friendly staff and as far as I could see everything in well maintained and up to date condition.

"Great 70th celebration"

SidSne, Halifax 17/10/2016

Really very pleasant and cordial staff Attended 70 th birthday party of friend and the family arranged overnight stay in same hotel Rooms well above average Sound proof Breakfast very average That is the only down side of hotel Rooms and hotel a bit dated but given the off season still well occupied Spa and pool looked good Free WiFi and parking are helpful Will stay again if in the area.

"Diplomat again"

Mike H, Farnham, United Kingdom 06/10/2016

Everything was fine until we retired, the room was very warm, the windows only open a small amount. The Diplomat is most convenient for visiting a supplier in Llangenach. We ate from the Bar menu in the evening, battered cod and chips, chips 10/10 !

"Mum's 70th Birthday celebrations"

debanntom, Hengoed, United Kingdom 20/09/2016

What an amazing day all the family had to celebrate our mum's 70th birthday celebrations. We had afternoon and the food and staff were exceptional. Thank you all very much for making my mum's day very special.

"Decent hotel"

User 18/09/2016

Probably needs a little attention on basic customer experience but overall a decent hotel. Room good but can be noisy, for me it was the taxi at 5:20 pulling up and shouting in car park on a Saturday morning. Breakfast quality is poorer than i would expect but evening meal good if a bit pricey. Lady at breakfast needs help. Maintenance interesting as loo seat lid came off as lifting it. Very strange experience,as they fixed loo seat in another room and no attempt was for coming fixing mine... Stay in loads of hotels with business so found it a bit hit and miss in places

"Could do better!"

onions27, Billingshurst, United Kingdom 14/09/2016

I arrived here late after a long Friday evening journey. Staff friendly enough but the room was just a bit sad. Desk was wobbly and bore the marks of it being used as a bottle opener. The teaspoons looked as if someone had just eaten a yogurt with then and replaced without washing. Saucer was also dirty. In the bathroom one of the bath taps wouldn't turn off fully and had left the tell tail blue copper stain down the side of the bath. To add insult to injury the room was close to the bar and suffered from excessive noise. Was rudely awakened a little after 6am with music coming from the bar area. Would think again before staying here a second time.

"VIP Treatment"

Alanmaam, New Tredegar, United Kingdom 10/09/2016

The whole of our stay was a most pleasant experience. The staff did everything possible to make our stay most pleasant. The food was first class and the room was excellent, the beds were most comfortable.

"Comfortable stay"

Guardo66, Luton 08/09/2016

The hotel has a great location and is reasonably priced. Staff are helpful and friendly and the gym / spa is really good. The pool is a little small but adequate. Rooms are pleasant and the hotel is good value for money.

"Wonderful Freindly Hotel But Could Do Better"

Don M, Reigate, United Kingdom 06/09/2016

My wife and I have stayed at this super friendly Hotel on several occasions and just love it. The rooms are far above average in size, comfort and furnishing etc and almost everything about The Diplomat is great. Sadly however I do say almost because as much as my wife and I would like to be able to give the Diplomat a 100% top rating we just cannot because of several needless and annoying little failings. For instance like although the meals are basically good they are also quite expensive yet you do not get any greens with the meals unless you pay extra. More inexcusable for a three star hotel in this day and age we were never once offered any water (or glasses for water) at the meal times and so always had to ask for water and were usually kept waiting as unlike with wine the waitresses obviously did not regard water as being a priority. Worse fresh tea or coffee is a priority for us at such as breakfast but instead of offering we guests individual pots of tea or coffee the waitresses come round instead with large jugs to fill our cups with, and these in our experience were filled sadly by then with over stewed and near cold tea or coffee. Shame really as these little things can in fact make a very big difference to we guests overall enjoyment and we hence we felt the Diplomat's management were penny pinching at the risk of potentially diminishing their own reputation for the sake of a little more effort and mere extra coppers. That all said however we still love the place and and the people who work at The Diplomat, and most especially the cleaners who were the happiest bunch we have ever come across so despite a few moans we do in fact hope to visit again, not least as this is a great venue to tour South Wales from. Don

"Weekend stay to enjoy Jazz Festival"

Dots122, Sheffield, United Kingdom 30/08/2016

This must be the happiest, friendliest hotel I've ever visited. We attended the annual Jazz Festival held to raise money for charity which showcases a variety of local and national talent and the impromptu sessions in the late bar are a real treat. Full marks to Byron, the owner and his staff for providing their guests with a first class memory of friendship and fun. A special thanks to Aled on keyboard who is a star in his own right.

"Nice Hotel"

Mark W, Herefordshire, United Kingdom 24/08/2016

This has to be one of the better Best Westerns in the UK. The staff are friendly and helpful and the service is very good. The facilities are great, with one of the better gyms and spa's. It's on the outskirts of the town but located close enough to a few shops and pubs for different options.

"OK but noisy"

User 22/08/2016

We stayed here for 2 nights for a weekend whilst visiting family nearby. The hotel is in good location with nice pleasant surroundings. Inside, the hotel is quite dated but the room we had was clean and reasonably comfy. On the Friday night there was a live band playing downstairs until 11.30pm which were incredibly noisy. So much so that the floor was vibrating and no chance of sleeping. We wouldn't have minded as much if we had been forewarned either when booking or at check-in but we had an early start the next morning and would have booked elsewhere had we known as we needed a good night sleep. The staff we encountered were pleasant. The hotel in my eyes isn't 4 star as advertised. 3 star at a push. Wouldn't stay again.

"Very good hotel "

User 18/08/2016

Our stay has so far been wonderful. The staff here at the BWDH are and have been more than our expectations for their professionalism & friendliness.. Nothing is too much to ask and everyone seems very happy to work here. The spa is a perfect little oasis & is very clean with a relaxing atmosphere. The steam room is one of the best I've tried at a 3 star hotel.. Actually the feel of this place deserves 4 stars for friendly hotel! The restaurant serves tasty good honest delicious fare for a reasonable price. I would definitely come back & stay again.. In face my husband joined my son & I and as I said nothing is too much trouble & hey presto another bed appeared with the best set of housekeeping staff! Thank you Diplomat you have a fan!

"Disappointed "

User 17/08/2016

My husband and I had a 1 night stay ,we paid £99 , we expected a little luxury with what we paid ,we were put in the old part of the hotel , it was dated and the mattress was so bad I heard my hubby turn over all night , it was a divan with terrible springs, the roof over bath was stained , shower head brown and glue in the hot tap over bath,1 bath towel ,1 hand towel,I wouldn't go again

"Short break in South Wales"

Celia M, Worcester 15/08/2016

Described as luxury. It is not. Bedding, towels and bed were great. On the whole very uncared for. Especially the horrible bathroom. Looks good from a distance, not good up close. Staff very helpful. Breakfast was fine. Position is central for the Gower peninsula and the rest of South Wales.

"Debbie Whitelock"

User 15/08/2016

We were invited back to diplomat hotel due to last time we came I was ill and we had to cut short the visit . Mr Jenkins (the owner) had invited us back complimentary . We had a lovely room, and a very comfy bed . We had full use of the spa , which had a jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, and swimming pool, which was very relaxing . The three course meal and service was out standing and so was the breakfast in the morning . I would recommend anyone coming that wants to destress and just chill out . Thank you to all the staff and Mr Jenkins for a lovely stay .

"Comfortable and welcoming hotel"

carol1302, Sunderland, United Kingdom 13/08/2016

We stayed for 4 nights from 27 July 2016 (2 couples) We arrived around 7pm after a 10 hour journey on motorbikes so we were ready to relax! We were allocated room 55 and 49 which were overlooking the main entrance. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean with twin beds. The reception staff were friendly and welcoming. We headed down to the restaurant for our evening meal - delicious home cooked food - I had the fish and chips and my partner had the gammon - both equally scrumptious! The staff in the restaurant were very attentive, friendly and professional at all times. We made use of the pool/sauna/jacuzzi and steam room plus the gym the next day - very satisfying after the long bike ride! We had drinks at the bar and the prices were reasonable. We had a little chat with the owner of the hotel - there was a huge Asian pre-wedding celebration event taking place one evening and he kindly explained this. There is ample car parking - we parked our bikes on the top level. The grounds of the hotel are very well kept - we noticed several squirrels on the lawn! The terrace is great for relaxing early evening with a drink. The hotel is located in a quiet, pleasant area of Llanelli - to the left of the hotel around 5-10 minutes walk you have 4 bars - Harry Watkins does a decent carvery if you want to eat out. To the right of the hotel around 10 minutes walk you have Parc Howard - lovely to stroll around and has the Museum open to the public. A further 10 minutes walk takes you into the town center. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and it was an excellent base for us to explore the surrounding area on the bike. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and would recommend it to my clients looking for a holiday in the area.

"Weekend break"

Ali V, Chippenham, United Kingdom 07/08/2016

Good welcome on arrival. Room was a good size. Drinks tended to be on the expensive size in comparison to local pubs/restaurants. Breakfast was faultless. Lots of choice. Waitresses were lovely. The only disappointment was the quietness to the hotel at night. We stayed on a Friday and Saturday night and the first night they had a large rugby team stay (lads)! They were slamming doors and just being extremely inconsiderate to the other guests! (4.20am) it all quietened down!! When we complained the following morning they said they'd had lots of complaints but didn't offer any way of apologies!! One guest actually walked out and refused to stay the second night! All said I think it was fair to grade 3 and not 5! I just think for us it was just bad timing.

"Weekend break"

L3281BGkevins, Manchester, United Kingdom 26/07/2016

Nicely presented hotel with usual BW standard of room assured, only a 15 minute train journey from Swansea for those looking for a nightlife scene. The spa facilities are well equipped with a nice personal feel in their approach.

"Comfortable and Lovely"

Saundraa, Florida 21/07/2016

We stayed 4 nights last September at the Diplomat. Beds very comfy, room clean, towels soft. Food great for breakfast which is included and lots of great food in the lounge and restaurant. Breakfast served in the Conservatory. A huge room with lots of windows. Everyone friendly, housekeeping very thorough. Every time we go to Wales we make a point of staying there. Fitness center included in our stay and my husband used it. Did not get a chance to use the pool/spa. Owner and staff very helpful with what sights to see while there. I wouldn't think of staying any where else. Hotel has high standards.

"Friendly welcoming friendly too!"

franb941, Ringwood, United Kingdom 20/07/2016

This was central to our visit in Llanelli, we enjoyed our stay and made even more enjoyable as Molly our little dog was able to stay too ! We had a room in the main hotel which was very good, comfortable and clean. On problem was the hot water from the old tap, w end we seemed to get any cold water at all and the hot water was really boiling hot! Decor was a it tired but we hadn't planned to stay in outcome we were out colouring and visiting during the 2 night stay. We paid extra as it wasn't included in our deal for Breakfast, yetis aid free breakfast on web site!? The breakfast was delicious, Binita was an excellent waitress, nothing being too much trouble , very welcoming too was Royal the Receptionist, very hard working staff. There is a veranda area that you can sit out on , and as it was a very hot day, this was welcoming.Molly was allowed in this area and the lounge, and as she is very well behaved made welcome by all who saw her! Good value, comfortable beds ideally situated, plumbing needs sorting,( a fridge would have been nice to keep dog food cool.) We Recommend this hotel, for businesses lots of conference facilities, for parties and other larger functions it's ideal? We will comeback again too!

"Comfortable, clean"

Lynne M, Warwick, United Kingdom 13/07/2016

Have stayed here a couple of times. The first visit we utilised the restaurant in the evening, and also had breakfast, and the food was good, as was the service. There were other events going o. During our stay and do the bar area can become busy and quite noisy, but there are outside areas, which can be utilised, time of year permitting. The spa was utilised both visits, however sometimes it can be hard to find a staff member who would issue you with a towel and locker key. Having said that the pool and jacuzzi were both a nice temperature, and there is a sauna and steam room plus various loungers. The rooms were comfortable, both in size and facilities. Would be happy to return

"Overnight stay"

Gillycourtney, Kells, Ireland 12/07/2016

My husband booked online but delays meant we didn't arrive till 10.30 pm. I tried ringing from 9pm onwards but no reply. On arrival we found reception closed but a sign advised to check in at the bar. The barman had our details & I was leaving with the door key cards before my husband had even parked. On seeing us go off in the wrong direction the barman followed us & directed us to the coach yard where our room was. The room was spotless, bed comfortable & when I had trouble connecting to hotel wifi, the same barman was as helpful as before. I didn't get his name, but he was on duty on Monday 11th July and deserves a mention to management for his friendly, efficient & helpful approach to customers. Breakfast was self service with hot food, cereals, fruit, yoghurt & croissants. Juices, tea & coffee. I had a facial booked & was delighted to learn that I could have a free shoulder & neck massage too. Wonderfully relaxing, thanks to Claire. My only small complaint was that there wasn't enough coffee or milk for two people in our room, but I'm sure housekeeping would have replenished them had I asked. Would highly recommend. Thanks to all the staff.

"Not a 4*"

Sharon42016, Powys, United Kingdom 12/07/2016

The public areas were very nice, the food was very good, most of the staff were friendly efficient and knowledgable. The biggest problems I had were with my room. I had a loose tap in my bathroom, broken flush button on the toilet, loose toilet seat, and uncomfortable mattress. I did ask if the toilet seat could be seen to, but was still broken on my return. Some of the staff could do with a bit of customer service training. Being referred to as 'lady' was inappropriate. The receptionist didn't know what floor I needed for my room and told me to look in the lift.

"Relaxing weekend break. "

Mark O, Porthcawl, United Kingdom 03/07/2016

It is a nice place but the decor is dated. The staff are really helpful and friendly. The food was stunning we had a 3 course evening meal and were more than pleased. Breakfast is good and the room service came quick with our food order. The only bad thing really is the toilet rolls they are cheap and nasty they should supply better.

"Not all facilities available"

mrt3239, Rugby, United Kingdom 28/06/2016

Stayed over the Bank Holiday week-end and as far as service and food was concerned they could not be faulted. Unfortunately, some of the facilities such as the Spa were not available and though it is a non smoking hotel, smoking was allowed on the verandas so if you wanted to sit outside you had to suffer cigarette smoke from smokers.

"best western Llanelli"

Wpb2222410, Braunton, United Kingdom 21/06/2016

Thoroughly recommend it. Was easy to find following their directions. plenty of parking and a warm welcome. Staff very helpful. The room was great and the bed very comfy. Eden spa was a pleasure. Would definitely go back

"Good overall"

User 10/06/2016

Pleasant reception clean room with small double bed, could do with a deeper topper on the bed, standard toiletries, bathroom clean, shower over bath. Only have loose decaf tea. Evening meal was fine although part of a large party, coped well.

"Business Traveller"

Ian D, Southampton, United Kingdom 09/06/2016

I'm a return customer as this is an excellent hotel location, sign posted from the motorway and therefore so easy to find. Warm and friendly members of staff make your stay an enjoyable one, whilst the spacious bedroom was clean and comfortable giving a good nights sleep experience. Self service breakfast items and quality of food was overall good. I will look forward to my next stay here.

"Superb service"

MarcusHurley, Bristol, United Kingdom 04/06/2016

I used some of my BW points to book a room here so we could take our dogs away for our anniversary weekend. I know, my wife has some strange ideas! We arrived and were upgraded to a large room at the front of the hotel, last time we were here we were in the coach house as those rooms are pet friendly but they were full. There is plenty of parking and a lift for luggage. The room was a great size with large windows that we could actually open to keep a good supply of fresh air into the room. There is a nice sofa as well as a desk to work from and the room is very quiet. We ate in the hotel one evening and had breakfast both days. The service we received there really was beyond compare. I travel a lot and the people in the restaurant, particularly Cerrys (not sure on spelling), were on a par with the very best 4* hotel staff I have encountered and certainly better than 90% of them. The training given is a real credit to the hotel. The food was nice too :) There is an site gym and spa which was good and had decent opening times as well. All in all, excellent value and a very nice break - thank you.

"Overnight stay"

algllanelli, Llanelli, United Kingdom 30/05/2016

Booked in for an overnihght stay to celebrate a special anniversary. We enjoyed the facilities and the calming atmosphere. The pool and spa areas need a little tlc there was lots of condensation and mould in the changing areas. The evening meal was really nice but once again the main function room needed a makeover. The chairs and general decor was grubby.our room was spot on no complaints there. Lovely hotel in a quiet setting but if there is a wedding on look out music was loud until 12mn but they were enjoying themselves.. I would recommend a stay at the diplomat , but hope that the management get a maintenance employee to sort out the long snagging list I could of come up with.another thing made me chuckle .. At the bottom of the menu page was a piece about food allergies......if anyone had "Pacific food intolerance" I think it should of read specific. ....

"Great place."

joebloggs90, Stalybridge, United Kingdom 29/05/2016

Stayed here for 2 nights at a weekend and it was good. Nothing special room wise but had everything we needed. Bed was comfy. The staff were all friendly and we enjoyed the entertainment on Saturday night all be it was for an older audience. The gym was OK but some equipment needs updating and the pool was too small for a decent swim more just a dip...had a lovely stay though.

"One night stay"

marktj, Milford 29/05/2016

Stayed one night for a gig in Swansea (it was the closest we could get) Initial impressions were good - nicely set and clearly well maintained. The receptionist was friendly, helpful and sufficient The decor, whilst immaculate did rather harp back to the '70s Room clean and good Breakfast mediocre, and very poor value at £11 Overall, not bad bad not great value

"loved it"

had my hen party in the eden spa, hand on heart it was amazing.the staff went above and beyond for us.banners, balloons, fizz, afternoon tea.had a blast and so did all of my friends.a few of us are now regulars.

"Not my first or last visit"

Quintin C, Manchester, United Kingdom 21/05/2016

The receptionist might not always be there, but the bartender will gladly check you in and he/she is always there which is helpfull especially when I arrive after 23:00. The dining area and function rooms are excelent. The rooms are clean, comfortable, well fitted and the reason why I keep coming back to this hotel. All the options are there for breakfast with the help of a friendly waitress. Oh and don't forget to visit the Spa with two Hot steamrooms, jaquizi and pool. The local Taxis might not be the most timely though.

"Could definitely do better"

Duncan R, Oxford, United Kingdom 20/05/2016

Basically the obviously "budget" room we were offered was awful, No View, Paper thin walls (snoring man next door kept us awake), No COLD water (yep you read the right, everything came out hot from all taps, bath and sink), there was a blazing green LED on the ceiling that lit the whole room all night (I get health and safety but these things are truly stupid and unnecessarily bright). The 2nd room (yes we changed) was an improvement by the way.

"Clean and efficient chain hotel."

Martin H, Melksham, United Kingdom 17/05/2016

I booked two rooms for my wife, myself and our two daughters +dog. We were given two rooms in the coach house which is separate from the main hotel but had a garden area for dogs to use. The rooms were very clean. The Staff were pleasant. The food was well prepared. We made use of the available spa facilities which were modern and clean. The receptionist in the spa area was very helpful. All modern facilites were available TV, WiFi etc. We had a pleasant stay and I would recommend the hotel.

"Sunday Lunches are Excellent"

Kerryvoice123, Swansea, United Kingdom 10/05/2016

We tend to visit the Diplomat regularly for Sunday Lunch. Saying that we have not been since Mothers day as we found on that day...everything went wrong, and we were very disappointed in the manner in which we were treated, We arrived 5 minutes early told to wait, then others were admitted in front of us, and the lady concerned was not happy that we then re joined the people waiting to go into the 'Function room' to be shown to our BOOKED table. She was a mature 'grumpy' lady who spoke to many people very badly...a lot were very disgruntled with her manner. However the food was as usual excellent, as were the staff. We returned only recently and once again the food was good. The head waiter was very pleasant and attentive as were the waitress staff. But I have to say well done to The Diplomat for your 'front of house chef' as he is delightful, visiting tables checking everyone is happy, and so so pleasant, infact on all our previous visits he has been the same. So I would without hesitation visit again for a Sunday lunch BUT never on a 'special' day as the front of house staff just cant cope - really do need to have happy cheerful professional people working on those days!!!

"It's alright. "

ag27, Bristol, United Kingdom 02/05/2016

There are parts of this hotel that are really lovely and would score an excellent but there are negatives that need to be addressed for it to get excellent overall. The good first - the spa facilities are lovely, nice pool, jacuzzi and sauna. The rooms in the annex are good too. Receptionist was very friendly and extremely helpful. Free wifi. Now the negatives .... We were put in no: 17 room which was awful they could have easily just put our beds in the bar. It is just off the main stairs so has no noise filter. We complained and got moved the next day. ( with a refund which we had to push for) during the late night phone calls to reception to complain the staff member was rude. Free wifi but you keep having to go get codes every 24 hours don't know the point of that it's free! The steam room was scolding you couldn't sit in it. Breakfast is not worth £11 it's mediocre. To sum up for £74 a night it's not really worth it.

"Afternoon Tea"

"Excellent Hotel and Too Short a Stay"

User 24/04/2016

This is a lovely spa hotel in the lovely town of Llanelli. The staff were excellent and helpful and the hotel is clean and well equipped. I stayed in the Coach House which is separate from the main hotel in that it is just across the car park. The room was large, clean and well equipped. There is a lovely bar in the hotel and the breakfast was very good with lots of choice. I would love to stay here again.

"Fun Weekend"

Django4955, Cardiff, United Kingdom 21/04/2016

Visited this hotel as part of a large group and had a great weekend. Our room was quiet, spacious and well appointed (front facing). Having viewed the menu, we decided to eat in the restaurant and this proved to be an excellent decision. The food was reasonably priced, well presented and our main courses, in particular, were excellent. Plenty of choice at breakfast e.g. full English buffet, cereal, grapefruit, mixed fruit etc., plus various juices. Toast, tea and coffee served at your table by pleasant staff. On this occasion we were not able to explore the area as we had travelled by coach and our day was taken up with rehearsals (function room at hotel). However, on a previous stay the hotel proved to be the perfect base to tour the area and visits included Ffos Las racecourse, the wetland centre and, of course, the fantastic coastline (all within easy reach). The entertainment on Saturday night was very enjoyable and had us on our feet. Good company, friendly, helpful staff, live entertainment, good food and fun - if you'll have us -we'll be back! Thanks all.

"Spa day & afternoon tea"

Julie A, Swansea, United Kingdom 20/04/2016

Recently my mother and I went to this hotel for a spa day and afternoon tea. On arrival we were met by a very nice young lady who told all about the facilities we could use and explained everything. The pool temperature is very pleasant indeed as it was like getting into a warm bath. Equally, the jacuzzi pool was very warm and very relaxing. The spa area is very nicely set out and all the facilities were first class. Another very nice young lady named Nadia brought us water whilst we were relaxing by the pool and our afternoon tea was waiting for us after we had showered and changed. Nadia as very welcoming and friendly and I would definitely recommend a visit to the Spa.

"Business Stay"

Ian D, Middlesbrough, United Kingdom 19/04/2016

Stayed in the Coach house which is separate to the main hotel which was very quiet and comfortable but a bit dated. The main hotel bar, lounge and restaurant very nice with good service. Did not use the spa facilities.

"A Bit of a Mixed Bag"

cardiffian2, Cardiff, United Kingdom 17/04/2016

Different aspects of the hotel and even the meals varied considerably. We went there as part of group for a Choral Workshop Weekend with a Community Choir from Cardiff. The room was excellent (Room 24) it was very large and well appointed with a king sized bed, big leather setee and lots of space. It was however very hot and difficult to regulate the heat in the room. although looking towards the road and with a bit of a view, unfortunately somewhat obsured by a couple of sizeable trees, it was very quiet even though live music continued in the bar well into the night. As with any group event the service was a bit variable with staff sometimes being rather scarce for coffee breaks and this sort of thing. Breakfast was pretty good with a varied assortment of fresh fruit and cereals. Cooked breakfast whilst OK, was a bit greasy. Our sandwich lunch on the Saturday was not really adequate for the numbers and very ordinary. Quite a decent menu for dinner in the evening but, again, the quality varied widely. My wife had salmon which was very good, whilst I had sea bass. The fish was lovely but the so-called Mediterranean vegetables were very greasy and comsisted largely of onion with a few bits of pepper, courgette and aubergine. Desserts were disappointing and poor value for money at £7 each! Would we go there again? As part of a group, probably yes. In general they coped very well and the ambience of the place is, on the whole, pretty good. Individually, probably not as I am not sure I would base myself either here or in Llanelli.

"Dissapointing meals"

User 11/04/2016

Food in restaurant very poor the steak was absolutely tasteless the lamb chops one was undercooked and the other overcooked we couldn't have thin chips and the meals took a long time to come Very dissapointed The evening bar entertainment however was very good with Aled on keyboard.

stayed fri and sat nights,2 couples, had an offer with groupon, the stay was great ,nice location ,about a mile from the town centre, there are some nice pubs a five min walk away.the spa and facilities were lovely,we had the first nights meal included, have to say we all had the steak and said it was superb,we have stayed in the celtic manor, and i can honestly say,the room in the diplomat was far superier to the manor, will definitely be back

"Groupon deal"

Me and my partner stayed here for a 2 night groupon deal. Pleasantly surprised with look of place from outside, plenty of parking, nice entrance into the hotel, comfortable lounge area. Stayed in room 22, very spacious, comfortable bed, large bathroom with 2 sinks and large bath. Furniture in need of updating and in need of new curtains as didn't shut properly. Had a meal that evening in the restaurant, spacious and clean, food was okay not amazing but couldn't fault it as it was in with the groupon deal. Breakfast on the first morning was a cooked breakfast which you ordered with the staff and brought to your table or a buffet (fruit, cereals etc).. Second morning was a help yourself hot & cold buffet, all in with the deal again so couldn't be faulted. Tried out the Eden spa, staff have a massive attitude problem, no time for guests and everything seemed to be 'too much effort' for them. Changing rooms small and covered in grime, no locks on the lockers had to go back to reception to get one, pool area the same, horrible smell when sat in the steamroom didn't even bother trying the sauna just wanted to go back to my room and have a shower.

Fantastic 2 nights away. Lovely hotel. Staff more than helpful. Hope to go back again soon. Spa facilities good. Small pool but really nice layout. Hotel situated on incline but disabled facilities great. Parking possible outside main entrance but plenty of space in adjacent car park. Lovely food in restaurant. Did not try bar meals but they looked very appetising. Comfortable lounge area with nuce veranda. This would be great on a nice sunny day. Large bedrooms nicely laid out with sitting area. Very clean throughout.

I can say we have been to the restaurant four times in 6 weeks. And when the food is in the restaurant it's amazing but for Mother's Day it was quiet the same. The older lady showing us to our table unfortunately had the worst manners I have ever encountered. I myself have ran a restaurant and wedding venue and to be polite costs nothing. So that's the bad part done... The venue is lovely the staff are brilliant and the chef has the best front of house skills I have ever seen. Rhys we think his name is couldn't do enough for us on all the occasions. We will return but we hope the old lady could not serve us even the way she speaks to staff needs looking at and even if she's the boss someone needs to tell her

"Poor quality"

Archies M, Liverpool, United Kingdom 21/03/2016

We were put in the annex away from the hotel as this (we believe) is the dog friendly part, it's a shame it's not as guest friendly. The room's (63) mattress was shot, sloping to one side, on the 2nd night my husband had to prop one side of it up with the spare thick blanket shoved underneath to level it out. The bathroom was stuck in the 80's with it's pink suite and the grouting repairs were shoddy and messy to say the least. The cold water tap had to be run for 3 minutes to run off the boiling hot water before the cold water finally came through. And don't talk to me about the poor quality of tiny squared, wafer thin and very rough toilet paper used. The bar was understaffed, but at least the evening food was good. But the breakfast sausages were very low in quality. My husband complained at reception when checking out and was promised the manager would phone him, but he's still waiting. It's called the Diplomat, I hope they don't out him or her in this room. We won't be going back, especially at the price we paid.

"Six nations weekend with friends"

kdhynysmeudwy, Swansea, United Kingdom 20/03/2016

Had a lovely weekend break with our group of friends at the hotel this weekend. Staff very friendly and welcoming throughout couldn't do enough for us. We arrived at lunch time Friday and spent the afternoon at the gym and spa, changing rooms were a little squashed but enjoyed ourselves using the facilities and given nice fluffy towels. Room very big and clean but internet connection poor. Evening meal was enjoyed by everyone and steaks cooked to perfection as requested. Breakfast plentiful with with choice of cereal, fresh fruits, danish pastries and full english buffet, waitresses very attentive offering teas and coffee. Found a few nice friendly pubs in the village but walked into Llanelli on Saturday to watch the rugby. Returned to the hotel to watch the last game but the only tv available was behind the bar! Entertainment in the form of a local duo with the option of going up to sing was very enjoyable. As a party of friends we all agreed we would certainly return again , excellent value for money.

janiee2012, Aberdare, United Kingdom 20/03/2016

On arrival was impressed with look of place and reception area . Staff were polite. Was given room 33 in the old part of hotel , nothing like the pictures on website , went to use bathroom, there was hair's on bathroom floor , stains in toilet! The bed was old and well worn .. moved pillows to find the last guests nightdress behind pillow ! I just hope the sheets were changed ! Bar and waitress staff were great and the breakfast was stunning with lots of variety. Had the two day break on groupon so glad I didn't have to pay full price The swimming pool area was clean and well kept . They had entertainment on Saturday evening, all guests enjoyed this . Would book again if room was better and cleaned properly.

"visit here if you have a good constitution !!!!!!!"

jayne l, llanelli 17/03/2016

Have recently joined a special offer three year contract and am already regretting it. Spa is definitely in need of a lot of Tlc and a good scrub around the pool area all the walls are covered in mildew and it's not difficult to see why this place is not attracting full paying clientele, on my second , visit I noticed a 4 hygiene rating on the door and am rather hoping this is for the kitchen and not as I suspect for the spa all in all very dissapointing

"Dine well and enjoy the ambiance of this hotel"

User 16/03/2016

My wife and I found the staff in this hotel very friendly and extremely helpful. The general decor is good, our room spacious and well appointed, the food on both nights was outstanding and there were some good wines on offer. The service both at breakfast and dinner was attentive and, although on one evening the restaurant was busy, we had no wait for food that arrived piping hot. A board of Welsh cheeses was a delicious way to end excellent meals on both evenings. My experience in the hotel's spa was unfortunately less satisfactory as on my first visit I had to wait over 5 minutes for the person on reception to arrive. Both staff I met in the spa were very friendly and helpful, but perhaps a bell on the reception desk to alert them that someone was waiting would rectify the problem I experienced. It would also help if liquid soap in the containers in the gents' showers was replenished. When I enquired about this from the receptionist I was told there was none is stock. The only other issue I would raise is that having swimming lessons for young children on a Monday from 5 - 6pm in a very small pool is perhaps not the best time for guests who have just arrived at the hotel or wish to use the facility after a day out. Other parts of the spa including the steam room, gym and jacuzzi were fine and obviously had been thoroughly cleaned.l Having made this comment about the spa this did not detract from a very enjoyable stay in the village of Felinfoel - a pity the pub next to the brewery does not sell Double Dragon ale!! Many local features including the wetlands, a local market in the town, a marvellous section of the Welsh coastal path and of course the iconic Parc y Scarlets makes this Best Western hotel a good base from which to explore this part of west Wales.

"Don't be put off by negative comments"

Susan Carol L, Barry, Wales, United Kingdom 14/03/2016

Having read the awful reviews of this hotel, we were not particularly looking forward to our 2-night stay but we had a great time and would definitely return. Our room was warm, comfortable, quiet and clean. The restaurant meal was fine (it was part of our Groupon deal) and the breakfast was delicious - lots of choice (cereals, fresh fruit, pastries and cooked items). All the staff were polite and helpful. The spa facility was clean - the towels were a bit threadbare and the place could do with a little TLC but there was nothing to complain about. A 5 minute walk will take you into the nearby village (Felinfoel) where there is a fair choice of local pubs serving pub grub. Llanelli is a 10 minute drive away - we spent a lovely afternoon on the coastal path, enjoying stunning views and a delicious Joe's ice-cream. A lovely, relaxing break.

"Spa Break"

Michaela T, Gloucester, United Kingdom 14/03/2016

We booked here because there was the added bonus of the spa facilities. Was a bit disappointed when ringing to book spa treatment to be told the therapist was off sick. We did however enjoy the pool sauna and steam room, all well maintained. There only seemed to be one girl doing everything ...... Serving afternoon tea clearing away and collecting dirty towels, she did very well and was very friendly. We did think the very wet floor around spa could have been dangerous but again this poor girl couldn't do everything. Our room was nice and good sized bathroom. As in so many hotels now when you ask for a double you get two twins pushed together so was not a very good nights sleep. The staff were friendly and the food was amazing. Plenty of parking and all in all good value for money.

"Disappointing Service at Reception - Terrible First Impression"

Nick A, Bristol, United Kingdom 09/03/2016

We had stayed here a couple of years ago and, despite being confined to the hotel by constant rainfall, were so impressed with the spacious room, delicious food, delightful spa facilities and excellent service that we resolved to come back when we could. But what a disappointment this time around. An unfortunate misunderstanding at reception meant that we were given a pokey little room with mould on the ceiling and, on complaining, were told that an upgrade could only be achieved at a cost of 20 pounds a night and that no other rooms were available. Eventually, thanks to a sympathetic manager, we were relocated at no extra cost to a lovely large room similar to the one we had on the last occasion we stayed, with a sizeable and comfortable bed. Without this kindness our rating would have been much lower. Rain again limited our chances to explore Llanelli but what we did see of the town was unexceptional - and asking locals for sightseeing advice was met with bemusement as even they had nothing to offer. On the positive side the evening meal was excellent, if overpriced, and Cerys's service with a smile in the restaurant made up for a little of the initial mishap. Cleanliness and the spa and pool were good but by this time our enjoyment had been well and truly spoiled. We won't be coming back again.

"Thank you Sheldon & Saysay"

Short note to thank Sheldon and his team (Saysay) and others for looking after us so well on Sunday night and Monday. Sheldon has always been extraordinarily helpful and accommodating and this is reflected in his team. Very reliable and helpful. Thank you!

"Friendly staff (in the restaurant!) in a dirty hotel in need of renovation"

stanzie33, Llanelli, United Kingdom 09/03/2016

Very small breakfast with no real continental buffet, the restaurant isn't very good, very uncomfortable bed (we had to lay on an extra blanket to get some sleep), no wifi connection in the room, no real roomservice as we had to ask for stuff like towels and toilet paper nearly everyday, couches in the hotel lounge are really dirty and they should definitely hire another cleaning worker (don't look too close in the sun..) The spa is really small and also definitely needs a renovation, no cushion on the couch, small sauna and they lost our room key (which we had to leave as a deposit for the towels). Definitely not a reason for visiting! Llanelli itself is very small and you have to take a taxi everytime you want to go somewhere if you don't have a car. But every time we ordered a taxi from the reception, we had to wait for a long time until it picked us up. Once we waited for over an hour which is really annoying considering you can't even use the wifi in the room, because it's apparently too far in the back. The service was very good in the beginning but after we asked for some new towels (as the room service hadn't been there) they got really annoyed and even kind of unfriendly. After the room service took our own towel noone really made an effort to look for it (which could happen everywhere, but at least you should show your guests that you are sorry and trying right?) But the girls in the restaurant were really nice and helpful, thanks a lot! (sorry for any mistakes, we are from germany)

"Great service"

Mat_n_Helen, Shropshire, UK 04/03/2016

Took our hound for a late weekend break, Dog friendly :-) Had a lovely room in the 'Coach House' annex. It is set separate from the main hotel/spa building with its own grassed area for him to scamper around & do 'essential dog business in' :-) Check in was swift & easy. Sun in restaurant was very pleasant indeed & a nice sensible choice of red wines for us to choose from. 'Isobella' was very friendly & polite & the Chef 'Reese' was a star! The steaks were fabulous! That also applied to the food prepared by him on the monday night & served by the also polite & friendly 'Sophie'. The bar area is also dog friendly so after tea we could and did finish off the evenings with a drink or two with our hound at our feet. Spa was nice too, although we only used the jacuzzi & pool. It seemed popular & felt comfortable.

"Complete shambles"

Rosie775, Cheltenham, United Kingdom 03/03/2016

drove over 136 miles to get to hotel for a 21st birthday, got told on arrival no spa treatments staff said beautician had walked out two weeks ago nobody had contacted us, so had to spend more money out on travelling an hour to another spa, changing rooms small and dirty, pool was murky, sand in the bottom of the hot tub. When we got to our rooms pair of pants had been left in a so called clean room, one room was cold radiators not working, no plug in bath, the other room during the day nobody had been in to make bed or replenish the coffee and tea facilities, all in all an awful stay and I would avoid like the plague.

"second stay via groupon offer"

doglips26, Swansea, United Kingdom 02/03/2016

we stayed here for a 2 night stay with dinner on the first night and breakfast each morning, we stayed in the new part this time in room 47 which was clean modern and comfortable, the heating never came on once when we were there but it was not too cold, the view was over the top carpark, the breakfast on the sunday morning was a self serve buffet which was nice and plenty of choice, the monday morning was a menu to order the breakfast, which again was also nice, the tea was weak as if cheap tea bags had been used, and the pastries go quick so get them first if you want some as they did not restock them once all gone, the toast you had to make yourself which took a while as the toasters were not very good, the evening meal was nice but very small portions, we had a tiny bowl of chips between the two of us, but it was lovely, the prices in the bar were not too bad it was £7.20 for a pint of strongbow and a pint of lager, there was entertainment on the saturday night which was a singer that was good we had good night, we used the spa once but it was really busy and people were in the jacuzzi for ages so we didnt get to use it the pool was ok loads of chlorine in there though and it was really cloudy water, would recommend this place to friends and family as we really enjoyed our second stay here and hope to stay here again if another off comes up with groupon in the future.

"Worst birthday treat!"

User 02/03/2016

My daughters had treated me to a spa day for my birthday, which I was really looking forward to, as my daughter took the day off work especially. As we had arrived we noticed that we had a missed phone call at 10.05. We were at reception at 10.30 to be greeted my the receptionist saying 'we have been trying to get hold of you for the past 48hours' i was taken back a bit because a traditional greeting would have been 'hello may I help you'. The receptionist claimed that they have tried to call us 3 times, we checked our call log and there was only one phone call which was the one that was made at 10.05 25 mins prior to our arrival which is unacceptable to me. Also why did they not leave us an answer phone message? That had tried to contact us to cancel our beauty treatments as the beauty therapist was off sock. When we asked the receptionist what were our options, she wanted us to use the pool and afternoon tea then come back another time (which they did not have a clue when the beauty therapist will be back in work) so we could not bool again. I felt that Edens Spa customer service was shocking the manager did not want to accommodate us at all. This bad review is not a reflection on the diplomat hotel.

"hotel ok spa poor"

marc e, Gloucester, United Kingdom 02/03/2016

we arrived at this hotel to enjoy a relaxing break with spa treatments were told upon arrival that the girl who did the treatments was off sick and would not be back that weekend being very disappointed we decided to visit the spa as in other reviews this was a big disappointment tiles off the wall in the steam room sign says please shower before entering the pool I would make sure I showered after I had been in that water disgusting colour the Jacuzzi you had to hold a button in permanently to make it work hardly relaxing the changing rooms were dirty and an attendant cleaned them while I was showering and mopped all the dirty water in to the shower whilst I was still in there the meal we had in the evening was lovely as was the breakfast next day the room was fine although the toilet seat came off in my wifes hand as there was no spa treatments and the spa was less than perfect not a lot to do in the surrounding area we decided tom leave a day early when I told the receptionist that she did not enquire why or if there was a problem acted as if it was a regular ocurrance I would say this is an ok hotel for a stay but DO NOT go for the spa

"Birthday weekend"

Stayed at the hotel on a Groupon deal {£99} for 2 nights B&B & 2 course meal on 1 night. {4 couples} the hotel has 3 different buildings that you can stay in, however on our deal we were allocated twins rooms in the main building. reception - on arrival we were told our rooms were not ready, but we had arrived quite early {1pm} & rooms are generally not available until 2pm. we were told we could use all the facilities & that lunch was available if we wanted anything , decided to use the bar. the receptionist came to inform us just before 2pm that all are rooms were ready {good service as you normally have to go back & forth to ask} bedrooms - very large, 32" flat screen TV, table & 2 chairs, double wardrobe, and a fairly good sized bathroom with shower over bath. tea/coffee, toiletries also supplied. twin beds were fairly comfortable & quite easily pushed together to make a double. décor was in good order & everything worked. however the hair-dryer was lacking in power. restaurant - used on the 2nd night for our 2 course meal, {valued at £15pp} the food selection was excellent & we were not restricted, anything over our value could be paid for. the quality & taste of the food was superb, I had mussels to start {must have been at least 20 in the bowl} & then fillet of sea bass. {really recommend this combination} all the other meals served were also of a high standard. breakfast is the normal buffet service & again good quality. bar - good selection of drinks available & average price for a hotel, seating area is again in good order, but not that big if there is a large number of guests using the bar. spa - used it once, bit disappointed with this as it seems a lot smaller than the photos, pool not very big & jacuzzi can only fit 4 people. the changing rooms are very small, lockers don`t lock, shower toiletries very watery. the major plus for this hotel is the staff, they are all extremely helpful, cheerful, approachable, & their service is a credit to the owners. would definitely stay here again.

"Read reviews before staying !"

User 28/02/2016

Got a great deal of groupon well so I thought bed was so uncomfortable me and my partner had to buy deep heat! We had dinner there as it came with the deal that was okay until I got food poisoning throwing up most the night the next morning I was starting to feel okay we thought we would check out the spa big mistake ! Mould everywhere! tiles missing off the Pool and steam room. water was a Disgusting colour changing room walls were mouldy floor was so muddy and didn't look like no one had cleaned it in a while. Went back up to our room no hot water ! What else could go wrong ! not really wanting to stay for the second night we had no choice as we came so far away. we had no sleep at all as the people next door to us was screaming all night I asked reception to go up and they didn't I know this because I could hear everything so I left it a hour and called again and he went up that didn't help at all, in the morning we didn't wait around to check out got out there as fast as we could. receptionist asked how our stay was and I told her what Happened all she had to say was 'oh sorry' considering I work for a hotel I couldn't wait to give this review no one should pay this amount of money to stay in such unhygienic place ! I read reviews on here and ignored them and I wish I didn't I can't think of one good thing about this place ruined our holiday we went to Bristol premier inn and stayed there .. Much better

"run down and not so relaxing"

A D, Carmarthenshire, United Kingdom 27/02/2016

The Receptionist was not very welcoming, looked unkempt, had no towels/robes ready and stated we were early (15 mins)! towels were old and thin, robes were old and had been squashed in a locker before been handed out (dirty looking white robe with a pink belt!! because she couldn't find a matching one. water was very cloudy in the pool - was not relaxed at all. changing rooms was a little box and no room to change, mould on walls, rust on floor, showers cold, lockers didn't lock!! very disappointing, lucky we asked for the afternoon tea in the bar and not on the poolside. Afternoon tea was lovely, waiters and bar staff were very welcoming and very helpful

"Diplomat hotel and Spa"

Brian R, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom 24/02/2016

An older hotel that gives excellent value for money. A little bit more TLC relating to my room required but this will not deter me staying again. An unexpected bonus is being within a stone throw of the Felinfoel brewery. Pay a visit to the pub attached and meet the friendly locals.

"A very comfortable bed and quiet too"

ELLIE13, Plymouth England 23/02/2016

We were visiting family in Swansea and I saw this hotel on Groupon. The staff were very friendly and helpful when booking, and when we arrived. We were in a room in the new building. It was clean, modern and well decorated and the bed was very comfortable so we had a good nights sleep as very quiet too. The biggest surprise was the restaurant - I enjoyed my pork in prune and sage sauce so much that I had it again the next night. There is a good choice of food and wine to accompany it. I would certainly stay there again - many thanks for a lovely weekend which exceeded expectations.

"Spa weekend without the spa"

User 22/02/2016

We booked a spa weekend in this hotel and pre booked treatments and when we got here we were told that the girl who does the treatments had phoned in sick so they would be cancelled. We were disappointed but decided to go to the pool which was advertised at being open until 8pm but when we got down there at 5:45pm we were told that the pool was closed due to there being glass in the pool and that it wouldn't be cleaned until the morning so we couldn't go in. All the staff were very blasé about the fact that we had ultimately had a spa weekend completely ruined by the fact that we couldn't use any of the spa facilities. We were even asked where we had travelled from and when we answered were told, 'ah well, at least you haven't travelled too far.' Well I'm sorry but 54 miles is a long way to travel for a spa when you arrive and can't have what you were expecting!! Very disappointing.

Saw a weekend deal for this hotel on Groupon and I felt the price was worth it. Service at reception was okay, dinner and breakfast was good with variety of food options. Hotel is not far from Swansea so we had a family trip Swansea beach. Overall, we had fun

"Great 2 night spa break"

User 18/02/2016

Thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night spa break. Room was modern, very comfortable and stocked with tea/coffee/biscuits. Beds were so comfy too!! Evening meal was of an excellent standard, dining room however lacked some atmosphere. Breakfast was mostly good, but very heavy on oil; deep fried mushrooms, hash browns, sausages and fried bread which didn't do it for me personally. However the pastries, yoghurts and fruit were all excellent quality and delicious. Overall, we had a great time and would definitely visit again. Thank you.

I had heard many things about afternoon teas ! And had decided to try one. Attending with my parents and my wife we duly requested the afternoon tea for four. We were initially served tea and coffee within China cups and saucers and China tea and coffee pots. This was rather unique and well ! posh ! The afternoon tea then arrived. I am not going to over state my disappointment but I was disappointed. Four people = four scones with jam and cream, four small chocolate cakes, a small selection of cake and fancies and eight quarter sandwiches. I am unsure as to what I expected ? But what was served was not it. I must admit I did order blindly and maybe a hearty meal would have been more the desired want ! I am unsure if it's my age now ? But upon ordering any food. I now find myself calculating what I could have bought and prepared for the cost that as charged. So for the cost of £46:00 I could have bought and prepared an awful lot more and enjoyed it much more and still had change for the his bus fare home ! Had that been required. I won't knock what we ate, as it was very nice. The coffee was exceptionally strong and possibly a larger jug of milk may have come in handy for four people. If you fancy a one off afternoon tea ? Shop around as its expensive for what you actually receive. I fully appreciate over heads and costings and profits. But it was a tad expensive for what it was.

lucykins14, Llanelli Carmarthenshire 17/02/2016

My sister and I were given a Christmas gift for afternoon tea at the Diplomat Hotel. Upon arrival we were shown to our table within about five minutes the coffee arrived, it was piping hot. The food was then brought to us. There was a good choice of sandwiches, four fingers each. There was also a really good choice of cakes and beautiful well risen scones with plenty of jam and cream. The waitress was extremely pleasant and helpful, refilling our coffee pot twice I can highly recommend afternoon tea at the Diplomat Hotel

"poor choice for vegetarians tired and dated venue"

Haz C, Wales, United Kingdom 15/02/2016

Our room was a double standard which was dated and tired, and did not feel at all luxurious. The rooms were warm and coffee and tea amenities were well stocked. No replacement shampoo and conditioner when the first was used which resulted in a desperate trip to a local store. Spa was lovely and clean and the pool was lovely and warm. The menu was very disappointing, the only choice for vegetarians was a cold goats cheese salad. When asked what the other options were fish was suggested however vegetarians don't eat fish. They eventually offered a margarita pizza from the bar menu which came out very hard, dry and covered in vegetables. Breakfast was nice but there was not enough staff and lots of food waste. Free wifi but didn't really work.

"Very disappointed"

User 14/02/2016

I went here for the valentines michael buble tribute night....absolute waste of my money and was totally disgusted with the service. We were left waiting 45 minutes for our main course ..While everyone around us had come in long after us but had there deserts before we even got out main . We paid the same as everyone in there so we shouldn't have been treated as if we weren't good enough to be there. The "3 course carvery " was horrible and was no where near being a carvery. The best part of he night was the michael buble tribute ...He was fantastic ..strongly recommend seeing him just not at this place. The staff in the bar either dont listen or have no clue what they are doing. Several times they gave me the wrong drink. This was going to be one of my wedding venue choices but I'm glad I've seen how they treat people ...and I wouldn't waste my money here. !!!! So unless you look like you have money I wouldn't bother!!!!

"The stay was value for money using the groupon offer"

Debbie H, Worcester, United Kingdom 13/02/2016

The room just looked a little tired. They were also really warm had to open the windows wide to let in fresh air. The dinner was absolutely lovely, we had the lamb shanks, bar staff were very friendly. The breakfast was very disappointing, we arrived at 8 30, for our breakfast, breakfast finished at 9, the hot breakfast looked liked it had been sitting there for quite a while, lids on the food would be better, the one pastry that was left was very hard, on both mornings we had to ask for toast 3 times before it came.

"Pleasant Surprise"

Steppy 2, England 27/01/2016

We recently enjoyed a very pleasant stay at the Diplomat Hotel on a Groupon deal. We stayed in the new wing and found the bedroom roomy, comfortable, clean and had all the modern facilities you would expect including a large flat screen t.v., coffee/tea making facilities and hair dryer. Clean towels were provided daily. The Spa was also of a good standard. We found the staff very friendly and helpful, particularly Vivienne on reception. There was some confusion with regards to breakfast times with the Hotel directory stating two different times for Saturday and Sunday i.e. 7.00 - 9.00 and 7.30 - 9.30. Still not sure which is the correct one! Dinner was included on the first evening which we enjoyed and as a result eat there on our second night. Breakfast was first class with a good variety to satisfy most/all tastes. I would recommend the Llanelli Coastal Park for anyone who enjoys walking/cycling. Certainly it is at the high end of a 3X star hotel and we would stay here again.

"Weekend deal for partners birthday"

User 24/01/2016

I bought a Groupon voucher for a 2 night stay here with breakfast and evening meal on the first night included. We had a great time, the room was lovely and clean, staff were friendly and the spa was awesome..enjoyed the whole experience. Great breakfast buffet and with Welsh products.. shame we never heard anyone actually speak Welsh ??. Would definitely stay here again

"An uncomfortable nights stay"

Popstar7, London 24/01/2016

Luckily we were only at the hotel to sleep there. Considering this hotel charges a lot more than comparable residences - it then charges £20 extra for an extra bed. This would have been ok that for the £20 we got a sofa bed pulled out in the room which our child could not sleep on as it was paper thin and the metal springs dug through - I know as I ended up on it and has the worst night sleep. The mattress on the main bed was not much better and clearly well used as it had a noticeable dip! The hotel breakfast did not fair much better dried out bacon and other poor quality meat did not leave or our family wanting for more. We mentioned the poor nights sleep on checkout with little offer of resolution other than informing housekeeping. Next time we'll save the extra and use a cheaper and more well known brand that are in the local area.

"Absolutely Fabulous "

I have stayed here on a number of occasions and it has been absolutely fabulous every single time, the food was brilliantly prepared and very nice. Honestly one of the best hotels I've stayed in. I have booked for both Valentines and Mother's Day for another great time.

"Dog Friendly Hotel"

chard32, Cardiff, United Kingdom 22/01/2016

We booked this break as its a dog friendly hotel and it was a Groupon deal. On arrival we were booked in straight away and given a room in the coach house as we had dogs. The room was lovely and big, with space for us all! It was a bit dusty in places and had a few cobwebs but it is an old building so you kind of expect that. As we were a little bit away from the main hotel it was perfect for our needs. It was only a base for us as we were out and about with the dogs all day. Llanelli Beach is worth a visit, as is Sandy Water Park, beautiful walks in a lovely part of West Wales. The retail park also has all the shops you need if you fancy a bit of retail therapy ?????? it was freezing when we were there so Starbucks was a definite ???? The evening meal was delicious and I would highly recommend the steak, the chips were out of this world, onion rings in homemade batter and a stunning peppercorn sauce???? delish ?? the only grip i have is it was very quiet, only 2 other tables eating so there wasn't much atmosphere.... Breakfast was much the same, very quiet but the food was what you would expect. They did seem to have a staff meeting or breaks on both occasions we were there, with people grabbing chairs off other tables and marching back and forth to the kitchen to help themselves to food in front of customers is unprofessional in my opinion. We slept quite well and the bed is comfortable and it was lovely and warm, there is an alarm that is constantly on directly outside room 59 so be aware if you're a light sleeper!! All in all we enjoyed our stay, it met our needs, was very dog friendly and we would definitely stay again.

"Not bad."

"Excellent meal "

Janet E, Wales 11/01/2016

It was my husband's birthday and everywhere seems to be closed on a Monday in January . We decided to try Trubshaws restaurant in the Diplomat and were not disappointed . The staff were all so friendly and we were served by our lovely waitress Sophie. Both our meals were excellent and we were made so welcome . We have booked to take our family there for Sunday lunch . It was a good choice !!

Wonderful experience, nothing too much trouble and always with a smile.. Accommodation, facilities, rooms and food of very high standard. One adverse comment, the bed in the Bridal suite was suffering from over activity and consequently was past its sell by date Can't wait for my next visit..

"Christmas & New Years Eve 2015"

Mark C, Ammanford, United Kingdom 06/01/2016

This is three reviews in one really as we stayed here on three separate occasions for a total of 6 nights between the 18th December 2015 & the 1st of January 2016. Our first stay was for an Abba Tribute night on the 18th December, we stayed in our favourite room 59 in the Coachouse, which has some dog friendly rooms. The entertainment was good,as was the evening meal & service & a comfortable nights sleep was followed by a hearty cooked breakfast served by the effervescent waitress Isabelle. We would recommend these popular tribute nights which are held fairly regularly at this Hotel. Our second visit was for three nights over the Christmas period arriving on Christmas eve & departing on the 27th. Upon arrival we were effortlessly checked into our room ( 59 ) in the Coachouse where our little Cocker Spaniel dog, Aurora, swiftly made herself at home. We wandered up to the (well behaved dog friendly) lounge bar where an informal afternoon tea & a glass or two of bubbly was served amidst a beautiful festively decorated Atrium & lounge. Later we enjoyed a candlelit four course gourmet dinner served by happy smiling staff in Trubshaws restaurant which was followed by live entertainment into the small hours from the very good Aled & the Diplomat Trio. Christmas & Boxing day were wonderful affairs with all one could want in terms of food, comfort, relaxation & attentive helpful staff & some very good comedy to round off Boxing night in the Carlton suite. We've spent a couple of Christmases in Hotels & this was by far the best yet. We were back on the 30th for 2 nights to celebrate New Years Eve, which was a truly memorable evening spent in the Carlton suite which was stunningly presented & would have done any 5 star hotel justice. A fabulous 6 course meal was followed by a Jersey Boys tribute band called The New Valli boys who were simply awesome & who would put many so called bands in the charts to shame. All of the quartet were very good, interacted with the audience extremely well & had to provide two encores to quell the demand. A disco followed until the small hours & space on the dance floor was at a premium. There is a modern, well equipped gym, small pool & jacuzzi, health suite & other facilities available in the Eden spa - which on this occasion we didn't use. All in all we found this Family run hotel a very nice place to be with the affable, friendly owners very much in evidence, assisted by some seriously high quality staff, who, at the Hotel's busiest time of the year made our stay a happy & memorable one. We would consider refreshing the wine list, as, in our opinion, better quality wines are available We thank Isabelle, Amanda, Gavin, Cerys, Ffion, Wayne, Vivienne & all of the remaining staff whose names we didn't get & the Jenkins Family, who we gather, have owned & managed this Hotel for over 40 years. We will be returning, in fact we have already booked for Valentines Night celebrations. Best wishes Mark & Sharon & Aurora.

"Short break"

Katie F, Blackpool 05/01/2016

Very family friendly, long opening hours for swimming pool, plenty of parking, nice large room for 2 adults one child. Children's menu in restaurant. Relaxed lounge area where we able to play the games we brought without disturbing others.

"New years eve "

John2jones, Bridgend, United Kingdom 04/01/2016

Stayed here with 3 other couples for New years eve after quickly checking in we went up to the room the rooms are comfortable and spotless and warm When we went down we were welcomed with a glass of champagne and then shown to our table The food was served immediately and all 5 courses were delicious and plentiful The service was superb by all staff the owners came around to chat and ensure everything was okay which was a nice personal touch The bar staff were also excellent especially David who made sure the customers never had to queue for a drink This has been our second function here and definitely won't be our last well done everyone! !

"" Absolutely Amazing""

Lisa P, Llanelli, United Kingdom 02/01/2016

I had my wedding here on 21/12/15. It was amazing from the planning to the actual day, Sheldon was great and put up with my many changes and put my mind at rest on the big day nothing was too much trouble. The room and the food were outstanding. I can't fault this venue/ hotel/ spa and highly recommend it if your looking for somewhere to hold a special occasion or just a night away. A big thank you to all the staff who made myself and my Husbands wedding day an amazing and memorable experience.

"Great time as always. "

amd-wales, wales,uk 26/12/2015

Stayed for 2 nights over xmas, wish we had stayed longer! The food was great, bedrooms spotless, staff amazing and the owners so hospitable as always. Love staying here for a rest and the sunday lunch is always great too. Nothing is ever a problem for the staff. Dave the barman is great and Sheldon is a definite asset to the hotel.

"Vegetarian meal a poor afterthought"

User 20/12/2015

Having attended a Christmas function so disappointed about the vegetarian meal - the 'wellington' was basically a square mushroom pasty accompanied by what tasted like tomato sauce for pasta. This was the alternative offering to the carvery which was all pre poked. To add insult I had collected my vegetables and waited for the pasty so long that the vegetables had gone cold. My friends all enjoyed the carvery, but this meal was not pleasant and poor value. If you are a vegetarian don't bother wasting your money.

"Nice hotel & Spa"

User 12/12/2015

Stayed last week as working in the local area. staff polite & helpful. Didn't get chance to use the gym &spa but looked to be a very good standard. Room clean, bathroom looks like it had recently been upgraded Breakfast was nice, look forward to staying again next time James

We went for a vintage tea . we are a large family and try to meet up before Xmas and to celebrate my man's birthday that has passed away. We were 15 and also children. It was ,£10:50 an adult and £6:00 for children. We have been to a few vintage teas around and were looking forward to this one. Instead of our cakes and sandwiches coming on a tierd stand they came on large plates and trays. There was another party there and they had the tierd stands. The choice was terrible . we asked where was the children's and said they were to share ours At £6:00 a head for the children we were expecting there own. It spoilt our day as were expecting a vintage tea and we got a buffet . won't be going back. I also emailed a complaint but no one has even got back too me.

"Very good "

tinytrace, Swansea, United Kingdom 06/12/2015

Went here as a friend booked for a birthday. We all had the afternoon tea vouchers. The lady called Nic on reception went above and beyond what she needed to make our stay excellent. The pool was a good size, the jacuzzi broke but they soon fixed it. Sauna was good. Steam room could do with an upgrade. Afternoon tea was excellent. We all had plenty to eat and a good choice. Some girls had treatments and really enjoyed. Just a couple of things we missed... Decent hair dryer, little slippers but robes were provided. Little bags to put wet costumes in but this is being picky. Overall we would all return,

"Tasty carvery"

User 02/12/2015

Had a 2 course Xmas lunch.. Work related.. Very tasty with fresh veg.. Green beans, sprouts, chunky carrots, roast & boiled spuds, stuffing and pigs in blankets. Xmas pud to finish.. Could have done with bit more sauce!! We were in the Atrium/conservatory which was lovely and warm.

"Afternoon tea!!!! "

we_love_holidays48, llanelli 29/11/2015

I booked the diplomat for afternoon tea for a family get together. Booked for 11 adults and 4 children. All I can say is we were VERY DISAPPOINTED!! Sandwiches and cakes were just dumped on our table with no presentation, not on the usual stands you would expect for afternoon tea but big white bowls. We paid £5.50 per child and for that they had a small plate of ham and cheese sandwiches to.share between them and a glass of pop!! Not even a cupcake, disgusting. Service was poor, no one offered to refill the tea and had three pots to share amongst 11 adults, no one came over to check everything was OK, nothing. Next time we will be heading back over to the stradey Park which is always well presented, the tea is always topped up and we are always looked after.

"Slippery steps up to Reception. Also Slippery drive."

Hilary K, Swansea, United Kingdom 14/11/2015

Health and Safety of outside property not in practice here. As wet day someone should have been brushing leaves off steps as very hazardous for those wearing heels- or not. Leek and potato soup tasted odd,bit like Asparagus! Salmon and chive sauce was tasty, but cold by the time vegetables were served.Same with the chicken and sauce. Roast potatoes lovely. Baileys cheesecake was more like toffee sauce than tasting of Baileys.Other desserts went down well. White wine served at bar tasted better than wine with meal. Tea ugh!!

rebeckett, Lowestoft, United Kingdom 07/11/2015

How hard is it to clean upholstery? The chairs in the bar were filthy. The backs of the barstools kept falling off! I remember this hotel being a bit seedy feeling around 20 years ago. They still have the 1980s Egyptian anaglypta wallpaper! Large picture of Nefertiti on the wall. Bizarre mix of decor and some truly awful art. I attended a wedding and the service was pretty limp. Often there were no staff on the bar. I mean, it's a wedding! My vegetarian meal was 2 tiny pies and a salad. I had to beg for roast potatoes. Being veggie does not mean I have an eating disorder. Amateurish.

"Poor night's sleep"

FrogDad, Bolton, United Kingdom 03/10/2015

This distictly average place is held up by its friendly staff. My stay was spoiled by the noise from the TV next door preventing me sleeping and then being awoken by a dog barking in the morning. The barking was heard later from behind doors in the middle of the hotel marked 'Private' and 'Staff Only' so I assume it lives there. Hotels are not place for dogs as far as I'm concerned so will not be booking to stay here again.

"2 night business stop."

V W, Llanelli, Wales, United Kingdom 29/09/2015

1st night stayed in a single rm in the cottage which is not part of the main hotel. The single bed was far too small, i'm 5'11 & my feet were dangling over the edge. Dirt down the side of the bed!! 2nd night moved to the main hotel after requesting it, double rm much better, the bed although slightly longer, still not long enough. B/fast was fab. Staff fab. overall enjoyed my stay & would stay again as long as it was in the main part of the hotel.

lounick11, norfolk 22/09/2015

lovely well decorated large rooms - modern and tasteful. Friendly staff and lovely breakfast. Nice gym and spa pool. Good location near to Swansea and coast. Would definitely return and spend more than the one night to be able to enjoy the area.

"Overall completely satisfied"

vernon r, Cambridge, United Kingdom 22/09/2015

Our visit was part of a coach trip. On arrival after a long journey, we were welcomed by friendly staff with tea, coffee and Welsh oatcakes Our room was perfectly acceptable: clean comfortable and quiet. The bathroom was fine; clean towels every day, and clean sheets every day. All our meals (breakfast and dinner) were served quickly and hot; standard of food, average to high. Wines: wine by the glass is available only from house wines (limited choice); bottles £16.95. Not bad prices for a hotel. The whole atmosphere is clean, light and airy. The Diplomat is to be recommended. One further note. Over the servary in the large dining room there is poorly painted copy of Gustave Klimt's 'THE KISS' They may want to remove it--it was apinted by Rolf Harris.

"Such friendly Staff"

Rachel W, Dublin, Ireland 21/09/2015

We got a room last minute here for the Rugby world cup...the staff were super friendly epically the receptionist and the young bar man. The room itself is pretty standard but the beds are comfortable and the room is clean. The shower is pretty good!
