    « Old and dated »

You get what you pay for I guess. Cheap accommodation. Room was dated, but a good size. In a good position. Close to shops and eateries, but being on a main corner, the traffic noise is a problem. Parking is also awkward and congested. Wouldn't stay there again.

    « Mouldy shower »

It was a good location, bed was fine. Decor outdated but heater, tv worked etc. I was pining for a hot shower, but was apalled to find mould in the shower recess!!! So gave it a miss. Surely this would not take a lot of time/money to fix. We chose Best Western because of our recent stay in 1 of theirs in another Victorian town therefore thought there would be a certain standard across the board. Apparently not ??

    « Caught between extremes »

We had a 3 night stay here. I am okay with hotels being older and perhaps a little tired, but I can do without the mould in the shower recess. There were indications that changes maybe being made, i.e new taps in the bathroom, but this was overlooked due to the rusted 'disability' rails, broken and unclean grout / tiles, in the bathroom. The kitchenette cupboards had handles missing, and inside they were in need of a clean and repair. We could not get the freezer to make ice-blocks. The room was very dark regardless of time of day. Having said that, the room was a great size, the kingsize bed was comfortable, the towels were bath sheets, the room was made up each day, soap replaced etc, so that aspect was great. One of the chairs in the room was rickety. There was a couch, which is always a plus for us. Cutlery was available if asked for. Outside gardens need attending to. Parking can be tight, and reversing in to our spot was a must, or getting out would be impossible if they were busy. It may well be in the process of change, but we will look elsewhere before staying again, even though the location was very close to the city centre.

    « Central & comfy »

This is a great place to stay in the centre of town. Family friendly, walked into reception to hear piano practice in the background, felt like walking into a home rather than motel reception. Motel is at the top of bakery hill, across the road from a variety of eateries and short stroll to supermarkets. Room was spacious and comfortable. The only tricky bit was parking, all allocated but not much wriggle room. Rooms were quiet and I think most were occupied and we stayed mid week. Cost was also reasonable. Highly recommended.

« Average but great size bed »

As far as hotel rooms go it was pretty average & seemed a bit cold and dated with the internal exposed brick. The toilet was in a very small space and felt uncomfortable. Shower was hot with good pressure. The highlight was the king size bed with comfy pillows. Checkin was seemless and service good but it was lacking atmosphere. I went to the Barkly down the road and walking into reception it felt warm and friendly and made me want to stay there but I had already made a booking at best western. The Barkly was offering same room $20 cheaper.

« Very good family stay »

Stayed here two nights over a cold September weekend and was very happy with the room and especially the service. Beds firm but very comfortable. Room had microwave & kitchen sink. Ice cube trays were filled and freezer a good size for a medium stay. Shower had a handy grabrail - good. Onsite laundry facilities and parking right outside the door for easy car loading/unloading. On the main road but rooms were quite. Accross the road from 'Hogs Breath' & McDonald's too.

« Clean and comfortable. New carpet and bathroom. »

We had a family room, no complaints around $140. The bathroom was really nice, beds comfy and linen clean. We checked in ar 2130. That was no problems. The room had a microwave and some basic crockery and cutlery.

    « Very convenient »

Stayed here will visiting Ballarat for a weekend and found this to be a great location in the central part of town. Within walking distance to lots of food spots in the central part of town. Room was very comfortable and had everything that was needed, parking was a bit tight though. Wifi kept dropping out. The one negative was the overpowering airfresher in the bathroom, it was terrible but once that was thrown out things improved with a bit of fresh air through the window.

« Rooms in desperate need of an update »

Starting with the good points: central location, easy to find, free wifi, comfy bed with clean linens. That's it, parking on site is awful, bathrooms and cleanliness are abysmal. Hair balls in amoungst "clean" towels. Grouting amateur job & mouldy. Streaks of a dubious nature on the walls in the bathroom. Toilet dirty/used & not cleaned on our arrival. Sinks & plug holes were filthy & mouldy. Didn't dare to take a shower as water was brown & didn't have thongs with us! 'Cheap deal' online turned out to be more expensive when booking. Won't be returning. Very disappointing Best Western hotel.

« Good location but terrible hotel room.. »

Im so glad we only stay here for one night! We had a family room which was not child friendly at all. The shower had mould in it, there was a slop in the shower which was too unsafe for my child to use, due to it being slippery. The empty complimentary shampoo and conditioner containers from the previous occupants were still in the shower, which means it wasn't cleaned properly. The spare blanket was just thrown up in the cupboard (not folded up neatly) so we didnt use it as we didnt know if it was clean. There was a smell coming out of the drain in the kitchenette, so we left the plug in to eliminate that. There was a toaster and microwave so you could make your own breakfast however byo plates, knife and forks. Mismatched furniture, light fittings that are almost falling off the wall and the smokers area was right outside the door of a family friendly room. The positives, close to ballarat central, the bedding was clean and the towels were big and fluffy!

    « Great Stay! »

We stayed here for 2 nights. Not that far from Ballarat station. We walked from ballarat station to here. Very nice location, friendly and helpful owner, beautiful room. It does have a microwave oven. Indian restaurants and a shopping Lane nearby. Loved it!

« Well located, well priced Hotel. »

I chose this hotel as it offered the best deal for the 2 nights we wanted to be in Ballarat. Free car parking and a lovely guy at reception. The car park would be a bit squeezy if you have a big car, but I managed with my Mirage and there was a 4WD parked next to me. The website does need updating as breakfast is not included. Wifi is free but it is one of those annoying systems that constantly requires you to log in. In any case, we still loved it. We love hotels like this that are clean, spacious and value for money. It was within a 2 minute walk of 5 different eating establishments and the Mall. You could also walk to a number of other eateries between 5-15 mins away. We had room 4 which had a King and a single. The mattress on the single could do with replacing. The shower was great and the separate vanity and luggage storage area was really handy. The kitchenette was adequate and if you needed plates or cutlery you just needed to ask. Would stay here again and recommend to clients. Thank you for a pleasant stay.

    « Very comfortable »

We just recently stayed. After a long day of travel . Our check in was quick and easy. Upon arrival to our room. We were very pleased with our first impression. Warm and inviting.King size bed and single. Spacious. Great decor. Well appointed. Bathroom was clean and bright. Loved the large luxurious bath towels. The bed was extremely comfortable. As a smoker my partner felt the smokers area outside the room a great touch. Overall, room, service and location was fantastic. Will definitely use again next visit. Thank you Kevin and family you have a great motel.

    « Accommodation at a reasonable price »

We recently stayed at this motel having stayed once before some years ago, we chose it due to the comfort of the bed on the last visit, a good pillow top bed. Things have not changed, the bed was still as good as last time, we have travelled extensively & spent many nights in uncomfortable beds. the other thing I like is the fact you the choice of three different coffee's & teas in the room & it is about 4 minutes walk to the Ballarat Leagues Club where you will get one of the best steaks, or there is Hogs Breath across the road.

« Just what we needed. »

Stayed here for a night on our way home from a weekend in Melbourne. We were arriving late and reception stayed open until we got there at 9.30pm. The room was a family room with a king sized bed and 2 single beds - just what we needed. The bathroom looked like it had been renovated recently and was nicely done. The location appears to be central and we would be happy to stay here again.

    « Great Location. »

Excellent location within walking distance to restaurants. Very good sized room with a large comfortable bed. Bathroom needed a makeover but the rest of the room very nice and the heating worked well. Also had electric blankets on the beds. Would stay again.

    « Comfortable »

Stayed in room 4 and it was quite large for a motel room. Very clean. King size bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was dated but very clean with a full size bath. Very close to shops and restaurants so its in a good location. I would stay here again, the only issue was the parking, the allocated parking spot was too small for our car so we had to park on the street around the corner which was a bit of a pain with a toddler, newborn and pram.

    « A little tired »

We spent one night at the Bakery Hill Motel. The Location is great for visiting the local places of interest & walking distance to restaurants. Beds were large and comfortable, heating was good with large towels supplied. Allocated car parks are available close to rooms however they are small and require some manoeuvring to get in or out. The place looked a little tired and in need of some TLC with broken signs, gardens with weeds and stairs with mould or very dirty. When going out, removing the key fob from the holder turns off the lights, heater/cooler and electric blankets. If you don't have high expectations the rooms are fine for a single stay.

« Ideal if all you want is a bed for the night. »

Great bed and good heating. Tv works well. The bathroom had dirt and dust around the toilet paper. The floor had dust and hair. The bin wasn't lined properly. The shopping bag used was just put there and not opened. In the kitchen, all there was were two cups, two saucers, two teaspoons. No plates, knives, forks or tea towels. There was a toaster and a microwave. Not sure why. The cupboards underneath were empty and had a strange latch to try to keep them shut. Very strange. I went to pull one open looking for a tea towel and the handle came off in my hand. The bathroom door was just a little too small to cover the opening and had no lock. The car parks were very small so don't bring a big car.

    « Great Location »

We stayed here for 1 night with our 2 Children. It was great to just head across the road and have tea at Hogs Breath. Room was clean. Only disappointments was couldn't find any tissues and the bathroom looked like it was full of mould in the grout....for a room that would be cleaned on the regular I was surprised with the black mould looking colour in the grout. Otherwise a good spot to stay for the night.

    « Good location »

We recently spent 1 night at the best western when visiting sovereign hill. The location is very central and walking distance to places to dine. Car parking is available close to rooms. If you don't have high expectations the rooms are perfect for a single stay with what you need, although dated the beds where large and comfortable, heating is very good as well. Hubby was very impressed with the large comfortable towels. My only negative is that the smoking areas are just outside the rooms and when other guests arrive back at 1am and decide to have a couple of smokes before bed it sounds as though they are conversing loudly right in your room!!! Other than this it was a fair nights stay at a decent price

    « Visiting Ballarat »

The Bakery Hill Motel is ideally suited for visiting the many and various tourist points. Whilst there we took the train from Ballarat to Melbourne, that was great, on time and clean and courteous staff. The motel's staff were most helpful we stayed in room 1 and it was better than other simular motels at this price range.

« Budget Hotel. Great location »

Room was small but okay. A tad bit dated. Bathroom seems newly renovated however shower was bad as it easily get water everywhere on the floor. It get cold and slippery after the shower. Well located and within walking distance to food.

    « Ballarat on a Budget »

If you don't have too high expectations this location is ideal. Once you get your bearings this Motel is actually well located within walking distance to most eating places. About a 25min walk to the train station. The room itself was ok. The bed was large, our room was near the street so we got lots of noise from the road. Having a small microwave oven sitting on a little table near the bed was weird, & dust on the table was off putting. Finding a pair of reading glasses down the side of small lounge made me think cleaning wasn't a priority other than vacuuming, making the bed & emptying bins. I also felt all the little do & don't stickers in the room strange.

    « Great Location »

We spent one night at the Bakery Hill Motel as we were visiting Sovereign Hill. The Location is great for visiting the local places of interest & walking distance to Restaurants. We had 2 rooms booked, one appeared to have had a bathroom renovation while the other was in very bad need of an upgrade. Staff were friendly and overall for one night, it was fine, we would stay again if in town.

    « Great value »

For the price this motel offers very comfortable rooms indeed. Giant bed and a spacious room and everything was clean and tidy. Allocated parks per unit and the location is very handy. Proprietor is not over-the-top welcoming but is very happy to help with anything you need during your stay.

« Very large and comfy room for the price »

We only stayed one night but had a very comfortable stay. The king sized bed was enormous! The bathroom was a bit dated but the rest of the room had good facilities and was a pleasant place for an overnight stay. Walking distance to good restaurants and shopping in Ballarat.

« Ballarat Bakery Hill Motel »

Comfortable, clean and right priced motel located close to great food restaurants and shops. The owners are friendly and the convenience is top rate. A simple map showing the best way to depart to Melbourne and to Adelaide would be a great advantage for interstate visitors.

    « Great stay, thanks! »

I stayed here for work last week and enjoyed my stay. I hadn't been to Ballarat since a school trip twenty years ago so it was kinda cool visiting. The motel is very clean and modern, almost too sterile for my liking I prefer a place with some character but having said that I can't really fault the accommodation. I probably would have given 5 stars but I thought it was a bit pricey. But all in all a comfortable stay.

    « Overnight. »

Very happy with our room. Quite spacious King size bed which was very comfy. The shower recess needs to be upgraded as there were cracked tiles that could harbor germs. Hotel was very central to suit our needs it was a public holiday so it wasn't busy and it wasn't noisy even though we were close to main the road.

« Good small town motel »

Stayed here for 3 nights in October. The motel is on the outskirts of the city center about a 10minute walk away. Closer enough to walk to the station even, as we had to do when our taxi did not turn up in time. The rooms are large, comfortable and generally very quiet given the location, we had one facing onto the street, but were not disturbed once. The rooms have everything one would need for a short stay and the king size bed gave a comfortable and quality sleep. The motel and rooms were in very good condition and well maintained, even around the smoking areas motel. From our check-in to departure the management and front desk staff were friendly and helpful. There are a number of restaurants and a McDonalds nearby, which served up excellent coffee and breakfast. A good place to stay if you're passing through or want to spend a couple of days in Ballarat.

« Some issues otherwise quite nice. »

We stayed for one night as we went to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Due to the road works on the Western Highway we got delayed and so we never got there until nearly 2.20pm and the guy at the desk was helping out wasn't sure on what to do and then we were waiting and we also asked how far was the train station away and he said about 5 min walk. We went to the room and off loaded our luggage and then he phoned back and said it is about 15 min walk and I said can you order us a taxi and he couldn't but gave us the phone number. There was no breakfast menu in the room or in the folder and as I said we were running late I couldn't put an order in. They did have them in the office. We got back about 12.45am and tried not to disturb anyone and we needed to have a shower and that was virtually impossible as it was a hand held one and that would not stay in the wall mount just kept on spinning off to the right and as we have used these before we know that they should stay in the 'frame' and I suppose other people have messed around with it trying to get it to work. In the morning we had a cup of tea and there was no tea towel so we couldn't wipe our cups out and there was a sink in there as well. there was only 4 of these little milk things and we have 2 of those per cup. We those issues I will say that it was a nice big room with a king size bed, and good pillows and clean.

« Premium at economy price »

For an overnight stay central to a good array of food outlets and restaurants we couldn't find anything better in Ballarat. King sized beds, beautiful high volume shower and big soft towels all contribute. It's also very quiet and dark considering it's location. Would recommend.

« Budget price, comfortable beds, lots of room and in middle of town »

Stayed for one night and were very happy with this motel. We had a family room, with a king size and two singles in one room. Room was very large. Spotlessly clean, had firm but comfortable beds, and a great renovated bathroom with just about the best shower we have ever seen! Situated in the middle of Ballarat, with many dining options available just across the road. Easy walk to Art Gallery, Gold Exchange, etc, and 2km from Sovereign Hill.

    « Poor »

Key, light system not explained.ligths not working, or faulty. Noisy, no knife or forks to use. Unable to access power points. Had free wifi, failed to inform us. Would not encourage anyone to use this motel

    « Very good value »

Very comfortable bed. lacked guest amenities Quiet Clean No breakfast option Very good value Would definitely stay here again, if in Ballarat on business. Just a little hard to find on natsav as not listed as Ballarat but only bakery Hill!.

    « 70s decor but overall clean »

We asked for a quiet room but were put into room 6, which happens to be right outside the smoker's area. Luckily for us, there were no smokers that utilised the area, but it was annoying to be given that particular room. We had booked a king size bed that was comfortable. Overall the room was clean and good for one nights' stay. Close to the city centre and mall.

Spent one night with husband and daughter to attend a function. Large open room with all the amenities, clean sheets & laundry. Quiet area so we had a very good night's rest, adequately priced and safe area to stay. Will be back to stay.

    « overnight stay »

very pleased with the room and staff. The room was spacious and very clean. All the amenities worked and in good condition. Would stay here again if need to. The views from the room were also very good, with the option of closing the blinds on the windows for privacy, or using block out blinds where you can see out but no one can see in. Very good idea!!

« Non smokers beware - wish we had seen that review before we booked »

Bed was comfortable, room large enough, with couch, table & chairs. Manager helpful when we complained about the smoke, but was fully booked and unable to move us, from rooms 1 & 2. Suggest rooms 1 & 2 be given to smokers only.

    « Very Enjoyable Stay! »

My wife, youngest daughter and I needed to stay in Ballarat for a few nights over the AFL Grand Final weekend. There wasn't much on offer and the Best Western was about all that was left - but we're very happy it was. We were only staying for 2 nights, Thursday and Friday. The Motel is located as soon as you hit the main part of Ballarat so it's nice and close to just about everything. If you stand on the footpath out the front you can literally throw a stone at Maccas and Hogs Breath Cafe. Next to Maccas is a Nandos and further down the street there are plenty of Indian and Asian restaurants so we were spoilt for choice as far as dining was concerned. Our room was very comfortable, one king size bed and a single bed. Air con worked well as did the TV. In the room was also a microwave, toaster, fridge, kettle as well and a very small kitchen area. Wardrobe space was very generous, however the shower and toilet were a little small for me. First world problems. At least they worked well! The 3 of us slept very well both nights and we weren't disturbed by anything. I slept better here than I did a few years back at the Crown Metropol. Our family are already planning a return trip to Ballarat and the first place I will be trying to stay will be the Best Western. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would easily recommend the motel to anyone else looking for a well priced Motel.

    « Non smokers beware. »

The King bed was very good, and the location is great with take aways, quality restaurants and pubs within an easy walk. The rest wasn't great. The room (#2) was dark with no opening windows, the set up strange with a small couch at right angles to the flat screen TV making comfortable viewing impossible. The room was very tired, the fridge lining cracked and door shelf missing. Lamps were all loose, cupboard door knobs all loose or missing. Tea and coffee with UHT milk and the light not working in this area. A microwave on the small dinner table making dining impossible. Annoying as these little thinks were the potential smoking gun is the proximity of smokers areas set up with tables and chairs outside several rooms. Smoke will enter thru the open bathroom vent or thru the air con. intake above the small verandah. Anyone who dislikes tobacco smoke go elsewhere, there are other Motels nearby.

« Ok if you just need a bed for the night. »

The room was Ok. The bed and decor reasonably pleasing. The menu for breakfast was cereal or toast. Not what we were hoping for. We didn't bother placing a breakfast order and went out for breakfast instead.

« Best Western Bakery Hill »

I spent overnight there enroute to another city on a business trip, and found everything about this hotel very pleasant and efficient. It's location is quiet even though it is on the very edge of Ballarat Central. Great location for doing business in Ballarat, and in close proximity to many amenities.

    « "Central Location" »

We stayed here one night on our way from Adelaide to Cowes. We found the motel easily enough in the downtown area. The room was quite large, with a comfortable bed. Everything seemed clean and it had good amenities. It is an older building, but the rooms seem to be kept well. The reception area is small, not very attractive, and somewhat run down, which gave a bit of a bad initial impression. However, we were quite happy with our room.

« going down the HILL,, »

On another return visit to this motel i was a bit dissapointed to find the facilities in need of an overhaul,,the bathroom was showing its age with cracked and worn out tiles and bath,,the rooms are still ok and the service alright but the place is looking and feeling run down. Surrounding hotels have all been bordered up as has the Battlers Arms next door so noise is not a problem from there but traffic noise is worse than ever and double glazed windows are needed. Will look at other near bye motels next visit
