Booked two rooms, Suite and Presidential Suite, one night and it was superb. Love that rustic design with a modern touch. Everything about this property is the original with the new. Welcoming was excellent, reception with a smile, plenty of information to questions asked and assisted with everything. Lobby zone, small and cozy, corridors grand with that rustic feeling and excellent interior design. Room wise, both the presidential suite and king suit of a similar size and layout, door entrance, small bathroom (with rain shower) entering into the living area followed by the bedroom. Additional bathroom with a walk-in rain shower. Both bathrooms had excellent amenities and products available. Love the shower, cannot beat a rain shower, a must in my opinion. Bed, of a good size, surrounded by the original castle walls (amazing), lines of a high quality and plenty of choices on pillows with a bed (not too soft and not too hard). Slept like a baby in comfort and warmth. Presidential Suite had a bath in the bedroom area, which is a nice touch, but the water pressure is poor and it would take way to long to fill, so never had a chance to enjoy it, shame really. Also the hot water situation was questionable as there was not in the bath. Probably a good idea to have such fixed. Small negative only, if staying for longer, would have wanted a running bath with pressure and hot water. Overall the room was cozy, well designed and had everything one would need for a nights stay or a weeks stay. Just loved the interior design. Nespresso coffee machine and coffee available, mini bar, plenty of space for clothes and overall well designed. Restaurant, ate in the courtyard and the main restaurant, both were very good and the service excellent. Would have probably ventured into the town if there for longer, but no complaints at all, great service and foods full of flavor. As an opinion, this is a location for a couple of days maximum, i would have loved to stay the extra night and just relax in the cozy environment of the hotel.

Stayed here one night. Amazing place with super friendly staff and excellent restaurant. Definitely would stay here again. Easy walk around walls and access to other locations in town. Big room and wonderful facilities with plenty of space for clothes

Would highly recommend the hotel if you stay in Avila. Room was quiet and spacious, very comfortable. Our particular room, 201, had portions of the Avila wall on the interior which added a lot of character. Great breakfast and overall service. Parking available. No issues whatsoever.

A most luxurious hotel in a very central location, built into the city walls of Avila. A very gracious and informing welcome from a receptionist who spoke of the hotel and the city with pride, even though she obviously was not local. A very spacious room and a breakfast freshly cooked to order. Despite its central location there was adequate car parking on the grounds. Everything was within easy walking distance.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights as part of a car touring holiday.Sofraga Palacio is located just inside the city walls,easily accessible by car and has excellent parking.( Tip- reserve in advance).The whole city is walkable from the hotel. We had a Premium King Room which was huge,immaculately decorated and spotlessly clean.Very quiet at night. There are various dining options.We ate in the restaurant on one night and had an excellent meal although there was only one other person in.The second night we ate on the terrace which was much livelier and informal.The same menu is available in both places. Staff are all very friendly and professional and we muddled our way through despite my total lack of Spanish. Altogether a very enjoyable stay in an outstanding hotel.

What an incredible little gem of a hotel. Our room was absolutely stunning, the beds were so comfortable and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate all our needs. The hotel is built right into the city walls, so the whole town is on the doorstep. Absolutely loved it, best hotel so far this trip.

We were in the middle of a road trip around Spain. We wanted to visit Avila and chose to stay in the Sofraga Palacio. Well we struck lucky! Some of our other choices during our trip didn't meet our expectations but this choice was head and shoulders above all of the rest. From on-site parking, checking in and entering our room we couldn't fault anything. The hotel is a mix of old and new and beautifully decorated with modern touches to suit current lifestyle expectations. To have the city wall incorporated into the hotel corridors is a fantastic feature. Also energy saving lighting that comes on automatically when you walk through the hotel. Our room was very spacious with A/C, a very comfortable bed and a modern bathroom with all the amenities that we needed. We used the restaurant and lounge bar which was very nice with lots of choice. The hotel staff were excellent and their language skills exemplary. The breakfast offerings were slightly different to what we had previously encountered on our trip. Everything was ordered from a menu rather than buffet style. We found this a much nicer way to start our day and very enjoyable and thought that way there wouldn't be too much wastage. There was lots of choice for drinks and food from cold to hot with no limit on what we could order. Service was quick and the staff were very attentive to make sure that we had everything we needed. If we're ever in the area again we wouldn't hesitate in booking this hotel, from start to finish our stay was wonderful and Avila is a wonder in itself. Congratulations to the whole team - Best Western - Best Hotel on our trip.

Beautiful hotel within the Avila walls. Room was lovely also. We paid for breakfast which was great and made to order with plenty of choice. The serving lady at breakfast was very nice and remembered our order each morning. Terrace bar was nice for drinks and the food was OK but did get very busy. We tended to walk into Avila in the evenings for local tapas and drinks. Parking was great and the barrier knew our reg so opened automatically. All the staff we dealt with spoke some English and we didnt encounter any language issues. We also had no issues getting into the hotel late at night or with noise. Shower didnt drain properly as other people have mentioned but so long as you didnt spend an age in there it was fine. The fluffy embroidered towels more than made up for that anyway in my view.

Sofraga is well located just inside the city walls and adjacent to a main gate leading to a main thoroughfare. Visually, it is a lovely hotel with nicely landscaped lawns and richly furnished and designed interiors. My room was vaulted and had large ancient beams in the vault. Such displays of medieval ceilings is common throughout the hotel. The outer wall of my room included very old brick walls with shuttered windows with light drapery. The contrast of modern beauty in renovations contrasted with ancient construction is apparent everywhere. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept on. My stay at Sofraga was generally relaxing and my room was very quiet with no outside noises to distract. A pleasant alternative to the busy bustle of Madrid. While the receptionists spoke satisfactory English, this was not the case in the patio cafe. While menus are provided in English, oral communication in English was difficult, especially with the waiter being exceptionally busy. My meal there was satisfactory. The hotel is locked in the evening. Consequently, I would suggest that the reception staff communicate beforehand at check-in to guests about methods for entry/departure during these locked hours. For me, it would have been helpful for my the morning hour departures.

Hotel with a perfect location for discovering the city. Room was spacious and with high ceilings, minimalistic but beautifully decorated. Also quiet at nights. The mattress of the bed was great. Loved the bathroom, only negative aspect about it was that the water pressure in the shower was low and it was not possible to regulate it unfortunately. Would have also liked to have bathrobes and slippers provided in the room. The breakfast was a la carte, so everything was fresh and delicious. Staff were friendly and polite. Definitely the best choice where to stay in Avila.

All credit to Best Western, this is one of their best hotels and it was a pleasure to stay for a few days. The Hotel is perfectly situated for access to the old city, especially the bars and restaurants. All in all, a truly excellent stay.

We stayed for two nights. Very big room, with a safe, a fridge and a Nespresso coffee machine. Comfortable, big, bed. Spotlessly clean room and bathroom. Excellent WiFi. Friendly reception staff. Great location, just inside the city walls. In fact, the back wall of the building is the city wall, right at the end of the corridor. A beautiful conversion of an old palacio. I was disappointed with three things: 1) The AC switched off during the night and the room became quite warm which impacted my sleep. 2) The shower did not drain properly. I inadvertently flooded the bathroom, in a big way. Water flowed out into the bedroom. 3) The poor soundproofing to the corridor and between rooms. This latter would put me off staying here again. We had a delicious dinner at Vertugo, across the street and a lovely lunch at El Rincon D'Maria.

Wonderful hotel at the heart of Avila. The staff(Marta and Elena) are super nice. The rooms are spacious, the linen is fantastic, all the amenities. Close walk to everything in the area within 10-15 min. Charming and lovely I totally recommend this hotel!

I think this might be the best Best Western in the world, although I haven't been to them all of course. We loved this hotel from start to finish. Firstly arrival and parking, it's always a bit of a stress thinking how difficult it might be to get to the hotel/parking in the Spanish old towns but given this hotel is inside the old city walls it really was easy to get in and use the on-site hotel parking, the hotel car park is 10 meters inside the wall and easy to access as well as easy to get out of for a large SUV. Secondly, the welcome was excellent, a warm welcome, speedy check in and clear instructions on what was where and service times. This continued throughout, with the lady on reception showing us to breakfast and introducing us to the waiter. The breakfast was fantastic, lots of choice and excellent quality, the avocado on toast was fantastic and our son enjoyed the pancakes. The hotel is so nicely located, set into the historic city walls, with actual exposed stone inside from the wall adding to the extremely well restored and maintained interiors which continue into the rooms, with the old palace doors sliding aside to reveal a spacious bathroom with double sinks and rainforest shower with robes at the ready. The beds were very comfortable from which we had views of the old city walls outside. The bar and dining area outside is lovely, with tables and sofas outside set in the middle of greenery with regular visits from the sparrows. It seemed like the hotel bar was the place to be in Avila, it filled up early evening and was busy until late. The bar had a great selection of drinks. The hotel was slightly more than we usually pay when traveling through Spain but we'll worth the extra. One of our very favorite places we've ever stayed on our travels and would strongly recommend.

This is a beautiful facility in Avila, built right up against and into the famous wall. We loved that and the room was lovely and spacious. Beautifully appointed bathroom, until you take a shower. Drained so slowly the entire bathroom flooded. When we told them they said they'd fix it, same thing the next day but we were prepared. Shower, turn off water, lather, rinse, repeat. Not the best way to start the day. Breakfast was good but service a little slow. I was there for a conference and needed to get to the conference. I wasn't in the mood to linger over breakfast. The staff at the front desk was very attentive and helpful in finding things to do in Avila when not at the conference.

The location I'd perfect for Avila. Good parking at reasonable price. Staff on reception exceptional. Food and drink good. Room was cool and clean and quite different. Highly recommend. Maybe don't get a room 1st floor over outside coffee area. Not noisy, but could hear things during the day.

Great location just inside the city walls with onsite parking. The hotel is a very sympathetically refurbished old building retaining beams and walls adding great character. The rooms are airy and bright with a very comfortable bed. Great staff who are friendly and helpful. We used the bar for breakfast and tapas, excellent choice and very reasonably priced and we dined in the restaurant where the food was amazing and again excellent staff. Would stay again without a doubt!!

Had a wonderful time in this hotel, everything was just perfect. The location was excellent. The staff were extremely nice and very attentive. The breakfast was excellent, with a good range of choices. The bar food was wonderful too.

Dont expect to be treated to the cliched boring Best Western style or hospitality at this propert as it belongs ot the luxury layer of the bland hotel chain! The Sofraga palace, in which the hotel is housed, is actually one of the main historic attractions of the town by itself!! It is a piece of history and even has the Old Walls of Avila running inside its corridors and facilities! HOw cool is that?! If you want to sleep in a building that still breathes history and heritage, look no further! LOCATION: located inside the walls of the old city which makes it unbeatable when it comes to location! DINE + DRINK: Lovely terrace restaurant and bar ROOM: We stayed in Room 110, so this review is based on that; VIEW: Wonderful view of the old town and cathedral right from your Balcony!; SIZE: Very spacious room; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part to put me to sleep; BATHROOM: Stand in shower; TOILETRIES: Excellent spa quality cosmetics by CODAGE brand. FACILITIES: No gym or pool, just old world Chill! If you need an exercise of workout just do a walk around the town on the historic wall! This beautiful hotel is built right up against the walls of Avila, next to the Puerta de San Vicente (Gate of St Vincent), which is one of the largest of the gates. We booked a king suite room, as the booking website indicated it could accommodate our party of 3. The suite had a bedroom area, and a living area, connected by a short corridor (but no separating doors). The room had a king bed, and the living area's sofa could be converted into a bed. We had made a pretty last minute booking late in the afternoon, so we were very pleasantly surprised when we entered the room to find that the sofa bed had already been set up. The room itself was delightful, and being situated along the city walls, one of the walls of the room was literally the walls of the city. It was like living in history! The room was beautifully decorated, integrating the old and the new with very tasteful design, and the lighting was amazing. There were two toilets, with showers in both, which was excellent for us. The beds were super comfy, and the climate control was very adequate. Our room rate included breakfast, which was served in a cosy dining hall on the reception floor. The menu was a la carte, and there was a plethora of options to choose from, all of which were beautifully presented and very tasty. The hotel has a private car park, which costs an extra 14 euros for the night, well worth it as finding a space to park in Avila is quite a task. At check-out the next morning, reception also kindly let us know that we could leave the car there as long as we wanted if we wanted to continue exploring the city. Staying at the Sofraga was such a lovely experience. It is pricy, but well worth it!

We stayed for a week in this lovely hotel and have nothing but praise for the whole experience. The staff were wonderful and nothing was too much trouble. They were friendly, approachable and made our stay special. We loved the breakfast and one morning when we left early, they organised a takeaway breakfast for us which we really appreciated. The rooms were luxurious, comfortable and very clean. The location is amazing, built into the city walls (and Avila is such a lovely city). After a day of sightseeing we looked forward to coming back and having wine and tapas in the garden. Secured parking was available for an extra charge. We would highly recommend. Amazing hotel at the entrance of the walled city but very easy to find. The hotel is decorated with an exquisite taste, is beautiful, room are pretty, spacious, very comfy and ac works awesome, restaurant and bar are a plus. the staff is really nice. Free on site parking. Don't think a minute more and book this hotel.

Stayed here for one night. Location is perfect just inside the city walls with parking all be it for a cost. We did not reserve breakfast here and ate in the cafe downstairs. Perfect small breakfast with coffee, tomato on toast and fresh orange for 2 for less than €7. We had drinks in the same cafe the night before at very good prices. Room was amazing and all the staff were very nice. Highly recommend. You will not regret it

This has to be one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. It was a joy to stay there. From the moment we parked up easily in the secure outside walled parking area, which was so easy not having to negotiate the usual narrow underground parking in towns. The lovely receptionist greeted us and was very helpful with maps etc. The hotel has been built incorporating many of the features of the original stone building. Excellent location. Everything was immaculate. The room was quiet and had some exposed stone walls, the bathroom large with lovely shower. The internal decor of the hotel very tasteful. You really have to stay here to appreciate how nice it is.

After reading the reviews you could be forgiven for thinking it can't be that good surely? But it is! Beautifully renovated palace, gorgeous rooms and communal areas. Breakfast was amazing and we had local hams and cheeses, breads, fresh orange juice… Staff were polite and helpful especially the lady on reception. Amazing hotel with parking in a fabulous walled town. Thank you so much for a memorable stay.

Perfect location and great rooms and amenities. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend and stay again if ever back in Avila. Brand new renovation into former palace and built into city wall right next to one of the gates.

A truly magical place. Great design, service and breakfast. Beautiful, greatly renovated rooms keeping true comfort (bed, isolation and showers are perfect!), while preserving historical elements. By far the best hotel in Ávila and, possibly, in the whole Castilla y León
