"Group booking"
DONNAR870, 08 Avril 2024

I arranged around 30 rooms at the Rose and Crown to accommodate family and friends travelling to Tonbridge for my wedding. Ksenia from their groups department was super helpful and there to answer any questions myself or any of my guests had. All my guests gave good feedback regarding their rooms and the service. I would recommend this property for a good 3 star central stay and so would the rest of my group booking.

"Shabby and tired - avoid!"
Nanette72, 04 Avril 2024

This hotel should be lovely as it's a beautiful building with lots of original features, but unfortunately it's not been cared for and it looks shabby. We had a room on the first floor with a view of the high street and our room was awful. The mattress was old and felt (and sounded!) as though it was stuffed with crisp packets. The sash window in the bedroom didn't open at all as it had been over painted, and the bathroom window opened but would t stay open. The water pressure was non existent and even cold water for teeth cleaning was a problem. The whole room was dated and tired. The reception staff were pleasant, but found it funny when we asked how to book a taxi. Apparently, they are virtually non existent in the area. I know this is out of their control, but they were very dismissive. When I handed my key back in the morning, I was asked if I'd enjoyed my stay, and when I said no, they just shrugged and said “oh sorry” I would avoid this hotel all together.

"Very lovely hotel"
Jaco d, 12 Mars 2024

The staff is very helpful, especially on reception, Akshaya and Ksenija, on cleaning staff, Will, Lucy, in the kitchen, Antonio and Shane and then all the rest of the staff. I really enjoyed my stay there and would definitely be returning to the hotel. Thank you Rose and Crown.

"Good Central Hotel"
oldgitKentHytheKent, 08 Mars 2024

Great hotel, centre of town with all amenities close by,plenty to do in the area from castle's one a cross the road to leisure and sports ,with a excellent golf course. Comfortable bedroom, overlooking the main road, a good English breakfast, all staff excellent.

"Where is Basil?"
quietvillageboy, 04 Mars 2024

We chose the Rose and Crown as it suggested it was the best place to stay in Tonbridge. The lady on reception who greeted us was lovely but there the experience peaked. Room was grubby with rubbish left in the bathroom bin. The tv didn't work. Most annoyingly there was a loud fan running almost 24hours a day above the kitchen which kept us awake. The room was eventually cleaned after our complaint but the tv was not addressed. The last day of our stop was spent without hot water in the shower which is a very poor experience. The Hotel is very handy for pubs around town which genuinely was the only plus for our stay. We won't revisit.

"Dirty rooms!"
Weekender70Kent, 11 Février 2024

Was originally put in room 51, the toilet was disgusting, urine and faeces stains on the toilet bowl itself, toilet roll holder, had fallen off, room was dusty side of wardrobe, phone wasn't working, net curtains ripped and generally dreary. Got move to 52, dusty lamp (thick dust) pressed bedside lamp switch fell of, dirt and stains under the sink bowl which was noticed when I was in the bath. Cleaner needs changing!

"Terrible hotel"
Tonythetraveller299, 02 Février 2024

In the main advert for this hotel it boasts of a flatscreen tv. I can't remember the last time I saw an old style tv, so why boast about it. The female receptionist was nice when I checked in and Chris who served me my breakfast was a pleasant lad, but that's where it ended. What a dump. No chain on the plug for the sink, tired and stained carpet, insecure door, no iron or ironing board, dated furniture. Floor tiles sitting proud of the threshold strip banging my toes.. rubbish under the desk. They even got my order wrong for my breakfast. No double glazing, not even secondary glazing. This is a poor state for a hotel. I don't think I'll be staying here again.

"One to avoid at all costs"
Betty E, 31 Décembre 2023

Practically a drug den. I cannot stress how mich the room stank!! I took one look and turned arpund- cpuldnt even bare to spend one night. Stains and hair in the bed. Rubbish all throughout the hallways. Wallpaper very slightly moldy and peeling off the walls. Dirty old mattresses piled out the back of the hotel. No chance of a refund.

"A very pleasant stay over Christmas"
James C, 30 Décembre 2023

I stayed at the Rose & Crown for four nights over Christmas. Even though my family live in Tonbridge, I had never stayed there before and was a bit concerned because some of the reviews here are pretty awful. Yes, the hotel is rather dated and will need a lot of money spent to fix old window sashes, ageing clapperboarding, etc, but I have to report that everything else was fine for me. My single room in the old part of the hotel was of a decent size, with ample storage and characterful original timber beams. It was clean and tidy (same for the ensuite bathroom), the bed was comfy and the room was heated to the right temperature. I had no need to test the wi-fi during my stay, but I made use of the widescreen TV and kettle for tea. My tariff included a full breakfast. I don't know much about continental breakfasts, but the English breakfast was cooked to a high standard and I doubt you would find much better at any of the local cafes. What's more, I found every member of staff to be very friendly and helpful - pretty impressive considering they may have been working against their wishes over the Christmas holiday. This is a good value option for somewhere so centrally located and I would recommend it, while recognising that a building this old is always going to have issues!

"Wouldn't recommend"
Pad2k, 29 Décembre 2023

Room had mold, half the lights did not work. Bed spring jabbed me and my partner at night, lights on the wall loose and wobble, no hot water and staff didn't do anything to resolve it, like they expected the room to be appalling. Overall experience unpleasant and wouldn't recommend.

"Do not stay here "
ann h, 10 Décembre 2023

Dusty dirty room toilet seat broken huge hole in nets curtains hanging off rail towels once white crispy and grey very old and outdated Beds and mattresses dumped in car park we checked out within minutes definitely not three star reception couldn't care less Tonbridge Christmas market had ten stalls the town had very little to offer total disaster and waste of money

"Rose and Crown"
Derek D, 04 Octobre 2023

the website is inaccurate, there is no restaurant yet the room folder had the opening hours and a menu in it. the staff were unhelpful with drinks. Having stayed at Best Western hotels a number of times with excellent memories i was greatly disappointed with the Rose and Crown. The staff could not be bothered to supply my wife with a cup of coffee on the first night and an alcoholic drink on the second nght. It was claimed that there was no staff, in a Hotel!!

"Not gluten free friendly"
Stephen S, 20 Septembre 2023

The hotel is very run down, don't be fooled by the Best Western branding, restaurant has no real understanding of gluten free with poor options, if you are coeliac or have a gluten allergy don't eat there

"Nice old fashioned hotel."
jfraser2010, 18 Septembre 2023

Nice stay for two nights. Friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast in the morning. Note that the car park post code is different from the high street post code. They have skittle printed sheet or you could ring ahead and get it.

"Filthy, mold - check pictures"
Y4817NMwillr, 11 Septembre 2023

Filthy, mold, worst I have ever seen. Booked because excellent location and website looks great, even reviews were hit and miss. Check photos! I stayed 2 minutes and had to go book another hotel. Felt sorry for the reception guy he was nice man.

"I could hardly fault this hotel"
Victorianlad, 11 Septembre 2023

I read many comments on TA tgat said this partly original 18th century coaching inn was 'drab' and so on. I had a better experience. A pleasant perhaps late 30s girl checked me in. Her assistant carried my bag. Room 101 was excellent. Contrary to what some others have said, hot water flowed well. The bathroom had been renovated in recent years. The bath was immaculate. Shampoo, soap and huge fluffy bath sheets were provided. Lighting in the bathroom was good but in the bedroom the two downlights were on the non-window side. The bedroom had an excellent Queen bed with a table on either side. Linen was good quality but the lack of a top cotton sheet on the stuffy nights during which I stayed was a negative. A doona alone was too hot. There was a good sized wardrobe but no safety box. A very good desk was of a sufficuent size. The chair was fine. Curtains effectively blocked light. WiFi did not have any dramas. Sure there are creaks in corridor floorboards but that is to be expected. The fire doors look cheap and dated. The hotel has cancelled lunch and dinner. Presumbky these lost money given there is a Spoons across the road. An Indian staff member when I departed on a Monday morning did not offer to help with bags although I had already brought them downstairs. Corpus Christi Catholic Church is but five minutes' walk while the Tonbridge railway station took about 12. Excellent rail services! All in all an excellent stay. My rate did not include breakfast.

"Splendid older coaching inn with several original features still intact thank god."
Jenny R, 04 Septembre 2023

Not remotely dirty as another reviewer stated but the decor is a rather drab beige in the public areas which I'm fine with and the stone flags may not be originals but some bits are and some bits aren't. My room is a bit more colourful with yellow and blue curtains. All fine basically with a reasonable breakfast if dear at the price. It pays to book ahead as I'm on £70/night instead of &25 like one man I heard at the desk.

"Great location but drab, dated and grubby"
836juned, 03 Septembre 2023

This was probably once a fabulous hotel. Sometime around 1983 most likely. That was also probably when it last had any money spent on it. Dated, tired, grubby and slightly shabby if I'm being kind. Dirty in places if I'm being unkind. But it is in a great location if the room is just somewhere to sleep. It's safe and relatively quiet, apart from the staff smoking area, and the bed was comfortable. Secure onsite parking. You can't get a nightcap as the bar closes at 10, and the staff turn all the lights off around you as you drink it, if you do get there in time. It's a cheap stay, in a downtrodden hotel and you get what you pay for as they say. Do not be misled by the photographs. I'm not sure when they were taken, but it couldn't have been recently. We would stay again if we had to, as it's a perfect town location, but I do wish someone would read the reviews, bite the bullet and do a bit of modernising. This old Kent lady definitely needs some cosmetic surgery.

"Avoid at all costs!!!"
zoes761, 13 Août 2023

Where to start.. so arrived and greeted by lovely friendly and helpful receptionist ( this is the only good point about this hotel… the rest is all downhill from here) we were given room 101, we intended to drop our bags off and then go out and meet up with family. We went into the bathroom.. which clearly hadn't been cleaned, hair on the floor around the sink and bath. Makeup smudges on the shelf behind the sink. The list went on.. so we went to reception, she was really apologetic and helpful, sent housekeeping to clean the bathroom while we went out for a drink for an hour. Upon returning to our newly cleaned bathroom! ( the only thing was the towel we used to dry our hands had been replaced and the soap we opened had been removed). This time the receptionist came up and took photos and offered us a different room… So off to room 14 we went. The longer we were there we knew we had to find alternative accommodation because there was no way we were sleeping there. The room had thick layers of dust on everything, including the tv remote. I pulled the chair out from under the table and had to brush the crumbs off to sit down. There were food crumbs in various areas of the carpet which obviously hadn't been hovered properly in a very long time. The bathroom had what looked like fake tan on the tiles and shower curtain. There is no way we would pay to stay in this place, we wouldn't even stay if someone paid us!!

"Rose & Crown Tonbridge"
davidmack2023, 13 Août 2023

This is a tired hotel. Shower facilities were poor- a trickle! Decoration was dated and tired. Carpets didn't reach the wall. The mix of colours and stripes and circles was not good for the eye but the room was generally clean. There was no fridge in the room for water and no glasses to drink water from. Bar facilities shut at 9:30pm. Breakfast was limited to English breakfast buffet and Kellogg's. No toaster so pre toasted bread brought out and cold by the time you eat it.

"It really is BAD as BAD can be"
23AndrewW23, 03 Août 2023

It's almost impossible to believe that there are still hotels as bad as this in the 21st century. Booked in for 4 nights as attending a wedding, given (appropriately) Room 101, at the rear of the old main part of the hotel. Tiny, hard bed; peeling paint; almost every fixture partially detached. Towel rail in bathroom full on, so room like an oven (told by receptionist it couldn't be turned off as all hot water for hotel flows through it). So opened window....picturesque views of abandoned builders rubbish and bird netting which had trapped a passing (migrating?) toilet brush. Right outside the window the kitchen extractor which sounded like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Receptionist said it would go off at 9pm....to be fair it did go off at 10pm, but started up again at 3.30am! Next morning, a new (much more helpful) receptionist arranged for us to change rooms. Room 48 (in the "new" annexe next to the car park) was much better, zip and link king size and a towel rail with actual controls. However, the view from the window was of a hugely overgrown garden, contained and abandoned lawnmower (maybe, like me, it lost the will to live?) and a pile of overgrown, hideously stained mattresses. I stayed in for the afternoon to try and catch up on some sleep, but unfortunately the maintenance team trying to work on the antiquated fore alarms couldn't read the Do Not Disturb sign as it was in English, and kept knocking on the door every few minutes and drilling the other side of the wall. We checked out early and will never, ever go back. Didn't dare risk eating here, the bathroom's are NOT the sort that you want to spend a lot of time in. Found a nice cafe down the street (Goodfellas) for breakfast and a good Turkish restaurant opposite (Havet). If you HAVE to stay here (and seriously, sleep rough on the station first), make sure you get a twin room in the modern bit.

"Fawlty towers"
janie2016266, 31 Juillet 2023

Fawlty towers!!!. Dirty outside area. Staff were trying their best but so young that they didn't seem to know what they should be doing. Given a room above the kitchen and the noise of the fans was terrible. After complaining we were moved to a front room which was so hot. The towel rail was on and couldn't be turned off. There was hot water coming out of the hot and cold tap so we couldn't use the shower as it was too hot. We had a meal in the restaurant which was not good and very small portions, maybe that was lucky. We ordered a bottle of wine but the waiter came back and said they only had 2 types of red wine, a Sharaz which we hate or a very expensive one so we had to have that. After waiting 40 minutes my Husband asked where our wine was , we were told that they didn't have a bottle opener. We were in our camper so we had to go and get our own opener. We then sat at the table with our wine but no wine glasses. The table cloth was so dirty. Other customers in the restaurant were also complaining, we all had quite a conversation about the hotel. This hotel is a disaster so avoid at all costs. We complained to Best Western head office but we get lots of emails from them saying that we will be contacted by the general manager but 7 weeks later we are still waiting to hear from him. We should have been paid to stay there not us having to pay to stay there. Best Western have gone down hill so much, we will never stay in one of there hotels ever again.

"Be aware, there are new owners which isn't necessarily good news!"
4OFU, 28 Juillet 2023

The one star is purely for the staff we met, incredibly hard working, very very friendly and helpful, doing their very best in the shabbiest place we have ever stayed in. I would imagine there aren't enough staff because you see the same people at all hours of the day or night - though they don't give the slightest hint that they are overworked or struggling. The outside area is disgusting - it IS the smokers area but has obviously not seen a broom for months! Everywhere you look it is abundantly clear that the minimum amount of upkeep is the norm - chairs in dining room are badly worn, door to kitchen has padded covering which is ripped and so on. We checked there was a restaurant when we booked and were informed there was, we were NOT warned that it would be closed because there was a coach party staying. Our room was clean, the bed linen, towels etc clean. Bath, loo and handbasin clean. I do accept (and embrace) oldy worldy hotels, but everything is a bit manky - 2 chairs in our room (unusual but thoughtful) except one has slightly collapsed. We visited for the first and last time!

"Avoid at all costs"
vrnowell2018, 27 Juillet 2023

We are booked in for a four night stay as we are attending a wedding and taking my aunt out for Sunday lunch, no way are we going to last that long The room is reasonably clean (I refuse to look that closely as I dread what I might find). We are in a room overlooking the kitchen extractor fans. We were assured they would be turned off at 9pm (gone 10pm) and wouldn't come on until morning. They rattled into life at 3.30am. Which technically is morning but not quite what we expected. The towel rail in the bathroom is on full - and can't be turned off so that is fun in July. The pillows resemble cardboard, as does the rather heavy duvet (see full on towel rail comment). The bed is lumpy and uncomfortable. There are no power sockets near the bed to plug chargers into (to be fair that is the same in so many hotels which is why I have 3m long charging cables!). Wifi is OK although I did have problems getting on. Really disappointed as a) I was looking forward to a break and b) we used a hotel voucher we received for our wedding last year so this was a special trip.

"Overnight in The Rose and Crown"
V3068QOpeterl, 24 Juillet 2023

Working overnight so OK with good clean bathroom and shower bedroom OK but over back yard where a group of 4 were outside drinking until after 02.00.. and like most they got louder as the night wore on, but not much the hotel could do about that. Shame there was no in house evening meal offerings, but outside plenty of pubs with food. Overall happy to stay here again.

"Listing building and monument to conservation."
redferns2016, 24 Juillet 2023

Usually Best Western are built to a high standard but they seem to have given up on this one. I've had to convert listed buildings in the UK and when English Heritage, Natural England, the conservation officers and planners want to conserve the collapsing floors and woodworm, it's not often possible to knock the old unsuitable parts down and rebuild a functional hotel. Add to that fire precautions with more compartments than a submarine wending through staircases supported by collapsing old beams and you've got the Rose and Crown. But our room on the outdated but newer rear part was spacious and comfortable with tea and coffee, excellent larger TV, WiFi a clean bathroom with good h and c water, comfortable bed and, if we had wanted breakfast, it looked excellent. Sussex bitter was available. Wetherspoons is just down the road. The parking was free. It would not take much for some DIY enthusiast to touch up the chipped bath enamel and varnish where damaged. Or perhaps put a white line on the step in the dark carpet which I fell down. And the worn carpet in the lounge could be replaced by carpet tiles and replaced when drunks damage them. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful.

"Avoid "
Maxcarroll2010, 23 Juillet 2023

Very dated and dirty bed had springs sticking up.the kitchen was closed .but saying that we wouldn't of eaten there. We left early and didn't have breakfast. There was a drunk man swearing and saying don't stay here it's a s##t hole.when we arrived.on a positive there was a young guy behind the bar called josh and he was very helpful and polite. Very Disappointed. When u was asked if we slept I told them my concerns and was told it will be done up soon. ( well the prices should be reflected in the price until its comfortable. This is the worse hotel we have stayed in.

"Hotel needs investment"
mickclark2023, 29 Juin 2023

The hotel is set in a good location in the high street, if you are situated at the front of the hotel it can be noisy. The evening meal is not worth the trouble best to eat out as the menu is very limited, there are some good restaurants on the high street within walking distance. The bedrooms are very tired and need decorating so appear to be dirty. i stayed in what is called the garden suite which basically looks out onto an unkept garden, the owners probably don't know it exists. On the plus side the breakfast is the best around as it is freshly cooked to order and you normally get fresh coffee, however on this occasion cause there were only two of us in the restaurant at the time we were given instant instead of fresh.

"A Very Enjoyable Stay"
Uncleagent31, 27 Juin 2023

Stayed here for 3 nights (Fri, Sat & Sun) with a group of friends from around the UK and beyond. The staff were wonderful, and we were looked after very well. The food was also very good. We stayed during the June heatwave when temperatures reached around 30 degrees C, and were offered fans to keep us cool. The light over the bathroom mirror was not working when we arrived but once we reported this to reception, it was fixed. Everyone in our group was very happy with our stay and, if we decide to go back to that area, we will have no hesitation in staying at the Rose & Crown again.

"Shower was a trickle, place was blazing hot & no aircon"
Nicholas B, 22 Juin 2023

Low water pressure, no aircon, broken windows in hallway, minging place, needs a update, bath towels stunk like someone is scrimping on detergent, place needs a lick of paint and window locks / fittings need fixing, would of been the bees nees in the 1980s

"Avoid"
Curiosity25466462686, 04 Juin 2023

Where to start ? ............. All in all its just a no go leaking toilet stunk of poo , shower didn't work , no window , curtains ripped amd they charge a lot of money for one night stay there it's terrible

"Depressingly bad!"
TDFLeicestershire, 28 Mai 2023

We booked this hotel for a two night stay and lasted only 20 minutes. Possibly the worst hotel room we have walked into. This room was not fit for purpose, initial impression unhygienic, no support whatsoever in the mattress and ripped bedding. We did not know such rooms existed at £100 per night. We rejoiced when we left, lady on reception was polite, understanding and respectful and one would assume this is a regular occurrence for her. Seriously messed up our evening, avoid at all costs. Best Western you seriously need to up your game here.

"Lovely Staff"
johnbR3123YA, 10 Février 2023

Hotel is old (hundreds of years old)and needs a little money spent on it to update some of the facilities. the staff are lovely and will do anything for your. Breakfast is a little over priced but you can have what you want and the full English was tasty with good quality ingredients

"Avoid Room 101!"
Lizzieflint, 10 Février 2023

Room 101 : we should have known. The outlook was not great but they said they had no other rooms free. The radiator was cold, we were told this was due to boiler maintenance but every other radiator seemed to be working. On request we were given a fan heater and extra duvet. Outside the window was an extractor fan which rattled noisily day and night. The room smelled of cigarettes. Looking down we noticed a cluster of tables and chairs: perhaps occupied by smokers in warmer weather? The room otherwise was fairly typical: not big but big enough and decorated in the shades of brown of which hotels are so fond. It was almost impossible to achieve the right water temperature in the shower over the bath. Not unusual for old hotels. Breakfast in the almost empty dining room ( where were all those people filling up the rooms) was retro full English, limited cereal choice, no yogurt: bananas featured on the menu but not on the table. If they'd said I could have nipped out and got them some at the shop a block or 2 away. The last hotel we stayed at had fish, avocados, omelette etc. I don't mind shabby carpets and creaky floors: it's an old building, but a bit of heat and a decent breakfast aren't too much to ask.

"You must go to see the horror..."
Andrew M, 09 Février 2023

Surely places like t his can't be around for much longer - it's a throw back to an era of low standards and who-gives-a-monkeys service. Lights didn't work in my room and the bathroom lock was dangling from the battered door. It's a labyrinth of poorly maintained hutches, and the staff don't have the means or the budget to do anything about it. The car-park's good. It's central, so you can get out to the town's attractions. But whoever the Great Western chain are is a mystery to me: this is a museum piece. Chilly, unwelcoming - the only top ten this place would make is "places that inspire suicidal thoughts." Use the Premier Inn: it's clean, hospitable and professional.

"Good Hotel, friendly staff"
Dave P, 16 Décembre 2022

The hotel is great, and the staff are very helpful. The hotel its self could do with a bit of investment, around the hot water system, but rooms always clean and tidy and food always good. Nota bad price either.

"WE LIKE THE ROSE AND CROWN "
PATRICIA W, 15 Décembre 2022

Last occasion we visited the ROSE AND CROWN it was for a traditional SUNAY lunch. Food was well presented and staff excellent. Good service despite two family-type events taking place at same time. Those who don't know the area should consider visiting the castle, taking a trip ion the river (in the summer months!) or walking along the riverside.

"A good hotel to stay for exploring area or business trips."
Anthony S, 07 Décembre 2022

Traditional inn in centre of Tonbridge with good parking at rear. Rooms well-appointed and quite quaint due to age of building. Breakfast range comprehensive and evening meal reasonably priced and well cooked. Reception staff friendly and helpful.

"Our Xmas Meal with friends (29 people) we enjoying Christmas meal"

"disappointing on all levels"
cindix2022, 05 Décembre 2022

Christmas party - food inedible - booked to stay overnight ... bed uncomfortable. I do not mind the creaking floorboards as I have a very old house, but it is the most charming thing about this hotel.

"Mothers Wake"
S6099WOmaryp, 02 Décembre 2022

A lovely afternoon tea provided for my mothers wake. There was no gluten free bread for a guest who had not mentioned her dietary requirements beforehand (but was happy to just drink tea!) The staff rustled up possibly the best bowl of chips and fresh fruit salad ever! No grumbling, it just appeared. Discreet but attentive staff. A very pleasant way to finish the long and taxing day. 10/10 Thank you.

"Rose & Creak"
Graham S, 07 Novembre 2022

When I read a review criticising the creaky floors, I thought it was a bit petty. On staying 2 nights, I now understand the review! A more apt name would be the “Rose & Creak”! Won't be returning back her again!

"Great location, comfortable bed, small room"
Ali J, 23 Octobre 2022

My first visit to Tonbridge and this was a great location in the centre of the town. The single room on the first floor was clean, with a comfortable, single bed but quite small; also the loo didn't flush properly. I discovered that the extra cost of a standard, double-room would have been minimal, so worth considering that.

"Filthy rooms"
FT123, 12 Octobre 2022

The hotel rooms here need a thorough clean… I wouldn't be able to guess when the carpets were last properly hoovered, there was lots of other people's hair matted into them all over the room. The bed also had other guests' used and dirty tissues under it. The bath mat was filthy and needs a thorough wash and bleach (it looked like it hadn't been washed from the last guest). And worst of all there were someone else's pubes in the bath! Add to this that the toilet didn't flush properly, you had to repeatedly pump it for it to flush at all. I wouldn't recommend this hotel at all. Filthy and poor value for money, when the local Premier Inn is a few pounds more and has much higher cleanliness and hygiene standards. I was appalled.

"More good than bad points."

We had a twin room in the rear annex. The room was very dated, but it was clean and quiet. The mattress on one of the beds was worn and very uncomfortable. The bathroom was refurbished with a bath ,nice towels and toiletries and plenty of hot water. A generous amount of tea and coffee was in the room. We enjoyed the breakfast that was well cooked. I would stay here again at the right price as it's in a good location.

"Quirky old coaching inn"
512annew, 11 Septembre 2022

We stayed for one night in this old hotel and enjoyed it. Our room was clean and comfortable, the bathroom spotless and the water was hot. Yes, the floors creak - we all do when we are old! We had an excellent and very reasonably priced dinner, and a substantial breakfast which was freshly cooked. The staff were helpful and friendly.

"One night is one too many"
ChrisC965, 31 Août 2022

Hot & dirty rooms, squeaky floorboards and very soft beds. The shower was a trickle and only just managed to get hot water - the bar closed early, even though we were ersidents. The only saving grace was the breakfast - great sausages and bacon.

"Don't stay here!"
Aguernsey, 29 Août 2022

Our room was filthy, bathrooms, both the public and our bedroom en-suite were filthy. Our en-suite smelled of stale urine and we didn't want to walk on the floors barefoot. Really, if your choice is here or anywhere else, go somewhere else and save your money. No shower pressure. Clothing items from previous guests left in the cupboard. The ladies on reception were very friendly however. Breakfast is very basic, you'd be better going to the cafe opposite if you must stay there.

"Dirty, tired and unfriendly"
davidandorlaward, 20 Août 2022

We arrived at the hotel to be greeted by a receptionist that gave us the impression that she had better things to do. We were directed to an accommodation block that look as appealing as a prison camp. Before we got to the room we passed a broken and rotting window, ripped wallpaper, very old carpet, damaged walls and a general feeling of neglect. We were not hopeful that the room would be any better and it wasn't. The very outdated furniture was well past its best and had a thick layer of dust. Various dead insects greeted us. The view from the window was of a neglected scrap of land, scattered with rubbish. The beds (it was a twin room as they had no doubles left) were clean but the mattresses old and uncomfortable. Last orders for breakfast are at 0930, at least 30mins earlier than any other hotel we have stayed in. Breakfast on the first morning was cooked well but included a hair that was cooked into the egg. We arrived at 0933 for breakfast on the second morning to be told that breakfast was over. OK, we were late and I accept that. We were annoyed at the way we were dismissed. A staff member, called Siobhan, came to our rescue and asked the chef who said he could make us breakfast. She was the only member of staff who had any notion of customer service. We booked this hotel because of the location (we didn't have a car) and because it was the only one available. It says 3 star, it was a 0 star. We didn't bother complaining at the hotel because there was nowhere else to stay. We won't be back and would suggest to anyone who is considering staying here to think again.

"Rose and Crown Tonbridge."
bgreenphoto, 20 Août 2022

Some of the staff were helpful but the younger staff seemed to lack training and had a fairly unprofessional manner. No aircon which meant we needed to leave the window open at night and there were people in an outside bar area so this made it noisy and hard to get to sleep. The hotel in centrally located and close to everything that Tonbridge has to offer.

"Would not book again"
Tezzylzw, 06 Août 2022

I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the room (106) however, once I stepped further into the room, the smaller problems were revealed. To start there were tiny black hairs on the bed, along with black marks on the bed sheets. There were also black smears across the decorative pillow. We were lucky to be given a fan due to hot weather, but we had to unplug the kettle, tv and lamp so that we could plug in our phones and fan due to there being no spare plugs. Please note these plugs were not close to the bed either. I brushed the hairs off and got myself sorted feeling hopefully to make the best of the situation, but this only went downhill. The mattress was broken. It was flat as a pancake. I will admit the cushions were lovely and soft, but that was probably the only positive about the bed. When we mentioned the broken mattress to the staff they said all they could offer was a free drink. Overall, we didn't spend much time in the room so it was sufficient for the two nights we stayed. it was also a very convenient location. However, we have come away with sore back from the broken mattress. The rose and crown has such potential but I would not be willing to spend more money there until they had some major upgrades.

"Airless room in need of an update"
Nanette72, 03 Août 2022

This hotel is in serious need of a refurbishment. The room furniture looked at least 20 years old and the mattress was extremely uncomfortable and squashed to nothing wherever you lay on it. Our bedroom window was fused closed with multiple layers of paint and the bathroom window only stayed open when I propped it up with toilet rolls. The water pressure was non-existent so even getting a drink of water was hard, let alone the shower which dribbled out. I was contemplating scoring this hotel Terrible, but the staff saved it, as they were pleasant each time we spoke to them. There was also a good supply of tea/coffee in the room.

"Dated and Over Priced"
Alan V, 31 Juillet 2022

Very disappointed with our stay at the Rose and Crown. First time we've stayed in a Best Western and if this is the usual standard it will certainly be the last! This hotel is very old (which isn't a problem), but definitely needs some TLC and money spent on it to survive. The toilet was dirty (see photo), honestly, if there had been a loo brush in the bathroom I'd of done it myself! Plus the flush handle was coming off the wall. And there was chewing gum on one wall.... yes it's out of reach, but get a ladder and remove it! Beds aren't that comfy (please take note from a Premier Inn bed). Rooms are very hot and windows are wobbly when you try to open them. The hallway has pigeon feathers littered through it (see photo). They keep the fire escape open and the feathers blow in from outside off the roof where the pigeons roost. Also....quite randomly, when we came back quite late from the wedding reception we'd been to, there was a young lad (late teens?) on Reception, in a track suit and running the bar - which, bless him, he did struggle with! No idea if he worked there or not who knows!

"Over night stay"
dianemarston74, 18 Juillet 2022

Nice and friendly with free parking rooms are quiet and peaceful, location is perfect for where I was going, The prices are top end and the same as what you get at other hotels that are more modern and provide the little extras, I think if the rooms were updated and the little extras like hairdryer ect in the rooms then the price asked would be more worth it, still yet to try the breakfast but friends have said it's good.

"Below Average"
SnarkRonson, 18 Juillet 2022

Its a good location and handy parking. But we paid £144 for a twin room and breakfast, the rooms were in a block out the back of the hotel, very dated, very uncomfortable mattress, certainly overpriced for what you get. Breakfast was ok, and the staff were generally good too.

"Good price, good location"
cubsur, 15 Juillet 2022

A short stay of three nights. Room small but adequate for my purpose. All in very good order, especially bathroom. Large TV, wifi very fast and dependable. Some short flights of stairs to deal with to and from room. No problem for me, those less able should be aware. Buildings that old do not have lifts. Breakfast menu was a little expensive compared with options I have used elsewhere, but quality was good, service good and portion size very good. Overall a very good stay.

"Disappointing"
ClaireMill, 11 Juillet 2022

Poor Value for Money We stayed in the Rose & Crown in July. 2022. The hotel is in a great location on the High Street with easy access to shops and cafes. Our room was in a block behind the main building, adjacent to the car park. The block is very dated and long overdue refurbishment. The room was small and tatty, the beds were flimsy and the mattresses worn out. There were tears in the sheets and the towels. We paid £141 per night for this experience; vastly overpriced for what it was. Staff were like Faulty Towers, receptionist then run behind the bar, not knowing what drinks were what. One receptionist was very rude and abrupt, but Karen on reception was very helpful and lovely. The building is in desparate need for refurbishment all the windows in our room were painted shut and the room was in full sun all day. Convenient location but the place needs a massive overhaul.

"Favourite hotel in Tonbridge"
Maps153802, 10 Juillet 2022

I have always enjoyed my stays at the Rose and Crown in Tonbridge. It is very conveniently located and makes accessing the town very easy. They supply enough toiletries for a short stay, the beds are comfortable but the rooms are very hot during the summer months.

"Comfortable and good value for money"
opentdoorme, 09 Juillet 2022

Very good location if you are staying in Tonbridge town and worth what I paid for. Property itself is a little tired and basic but still clean and comfortable and is reflected in the price. The full breakfast was very tasty.

"Needs urgent refurbishment"
johJ4732LO, 06 Juillet 2022

Carpet not secured at entrance to en-suite - trip hazard. Access to one room on the turn in stairs which made it awkward to open the door.Plus it was by the fire door that banged shut every time someone passed through it during the night. Room was hot. Sash windows broken. Receptionist friendly but only one young man staffed the bar and restaurant on Friday night.it was not busy but he was clearly out of his depth.

"Poor Value for Money"
Charlie A, 26 Juin 2022

We stayed in the Rose & Crown in June 2022. The hotel is in a great location on the High Street with easy access to shops and cafes. Our room was in a block behind the main building, adjacent to the car park. The block is very dated and long overdue refurbishment. The room was small and tatty, the beds were flimsy and the mattresses worn out. Every movement resulted in a creaking of mattress springs. There were tears in the sheets and the towels. The water pressure in the shower was awful, there was barely a trickle sufficient to wash under. We paid £100 per night for this experience; vastly overpriced for what it was.

"WITH A LITTLE TRAINING......!"
PATRICIA W, 26 Juin 2022

Attractive historic building that needs a degree of refurbishment. The hotel has its own carpark but it is difficult to locate. The receptionist (from Eastern Europe) excellent. Dining room virtually empty. Food good. Young staff willing but in desperate ned of training. Ridiculously inadequate.

"Very disappointed! Hot room, dated decor, customer service meh! "
Nina R, 25 Juin 2022

The room was hot, uncomfortable, dated. The receptionist friendly enough in the evening on check in, when asked for a room fan - an all knowing smirk! Fan provided. No room change offered. Confirmed in am hotel not full. Advised we can complain ?!!?

"Don't Stay Here - Buy A Tent Instead!"
Tina C, 01 Juin 2022

Useless and grumpy Concierge. Paint and wallpaper peeling off. Mucky room with grey net curtains & dust loaded main curtains. Windowsill littered with dead flies. Shower head half working & gave cold water. Same with sink taps - all cold. Used tissues still in bathroom bin.

""Best" should not be in the title......"
amandasteele1989, 30 Mai 2022

Where to start..... Customer service training is definitely required at this place. Check in was simple enough, though we were stood in front of the desk for a few minutes whilst the lady was doing something in the back. A "I won't be a moment" wouldn't have gone a miss, just to be acknowledged. We went out after check in, but decided to give the hotel our custom for the evening meal - big mistake. We went down to the empty restaurant at around 7.20pm, went to the bar to ask for a table, to be met with "erm, yes. I can put you in the window, though we are setting up for breakfast" (food was served until 8.30pm). This attitude was delivered to 2 more sets of guests who later arrived after us. Definitely a lot of emphasis of us being an inconvenience. We ordered drinks and a meal, which arrived fairly promptly, but the food is nothing to write about. My partner ordered 2 extras for his meal that were 1: not there and the second, 4 tiny little slices of mushroom. Absolutely not worth the 75p. The waitress did not charge us for these, but the way she dealt with it could have been met another way. No, "I'm really sorry about that, would you like me to go get them for you", just "i can see he hasn't put them on there so i won't charge you" after been called over - almost like she was aware of the matter beforehand? One table next to us had been left waiting around 20-25mins to have their order taken, and when it was the waitress left for the evening after stating to the couple that she was leaving at 7.45 that day because it was quiet. So, another waiter was now dealing with tables. Equally as shocking service. He had started taking the third tables order when the chef rang the bell to alert him that meals were ready. He was in the middle of serving the ladies and went "that's the bell for food, I need to stop taking your order and go get it" - at this point, we were just puzzled as to what we were witnessing. So he went to get the food and then went back to take the order. The table who had been waiting for 25mins for their order to be taken now had their food ready but when it arrived, the woman had no chips on her plate. She asked where they were and the waiter claimed it didn't come with any. At this point i butted in as she had ordered the same as me and the meal absolutely did come with them. He then turned around and said I'd had the last ones (this woman's husband was sat opposite her with fish and chips) - even if they had run out, you explain this to the customer. Basically, the waiter had no idea what he was serving or what should be plated up. Nor did it seem that the chef had a clue. The problem got sorted though, but the level of service was appalling. Our plates were cleared and we were asked whether we wanted dessert menus. We were so disgusted with the service we declined and sat with our drinks. Once drinks were done, we were trying to get the waiters attention. Back turned to our tables, texting on his phone in the middle of the room, leaning on the side table. Another guest walked in through the front door, he put his phone in his pocket and pulled it straight out again when this guest walked up to his room. Now the waiter was stood (still with his back to us) in the middle of the floor checking his phone, before walking into the kitchen. We finally got to pay the bill and went up. The next morning, we went down for breakfast. Tables were dirty so we had to wait for one to be cleaned by a disgruntled waitress, who shoved a menu in our face when we sat down. She gave us 5mins before coming over. Full english or continental (ham, cheese and tomato?) There was a cereal bar set up and a bowl with 2 oranges in it. A sign that said Danish pastries and mini muffins that were clearly invisible as they were not there. I asked if i could have the full English, no toms or mushrooms, to be told yes in a typical teen "i can't be bothered with this job" tone. She did not ask us if we wanted tea or coffee, she did not ask if we wanted toast with the breakfast and she did not ask us what option of eggs we wanted with it, as specified on the menu. Again, absolutely appalling service. So much so, that we did not go down for it the second day. Now for the room. Standard room that was fairly comfy. It did its job but it is a little outdated in places. The main issue we had was the water pressure. The cold water was a trickle which meant having a shower was a nightmare as the minute you turned the hot tap, it completely overpowered the cold and scolded you - an absolute safety hazard as this will cause serious burns. So it was either no shower or a cold shower (cold shower it was). The lack of pressure also meant that flushing the toilet was a pain as you had to wait 5-10mins before the other could then use the toilet and be able to flush it. When we left, we made reception aware of the matter who, again didn't really seem bothered, no apology. Or maybe it was that they've had this complaint more than once, are already aware and are still doing nothing about it? All in all, we will never be able to recommend this place, nor would it ever be somewhere to return to.

"Great Hotel"

Great Hotel, parking on site in secure area. Room was large with a bath and shower. Breafast was excellent and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Will certainly return to this hotel next time in the area.

"Shabby room with lots of issues not worth £100 for 1 night"
X2774KApault, 18 Avril 2022

There were several holes in one of the towels which was very grey. The radiator was on and the button to turn it down was broken next to the bed which also had a window you cant open. The carpet bar was sticking up and i caught my toe on the sharp metal edge, the shower was boiling hot and you couldn't use the mixer as it kept flicking back to hot. The bath handles were in the wrong place to assist getting out of it which we had to use as the shower was busted and only there one night. The bedside lamps were not working as the plug switches were off, I had to move two heavy wooden units to access the switch. The floor lamp didn't work, the kettle lead was dangerously short which meant moving the table to a plug closer which in turn meant shifting the sofa. Not good when you have a double hernia. The fire escape signs from the room (9) were not clear as you had to pass the actual door with it behind you to the end of the corridor and only became obvious as you walked back. All in all I was very disappointed to be charged £100.00 for one night in what was a shabby tired annex. I won't be staying here again.

"Terrible avoid at all cost"
K1213, 09 Avril 2022

THE NAME SHOULD NOT HAVE Best WRITTEN IN IT AT ALL .. I can honestly say I've never visited a place worse than this. Council block is the best description of this. £97 for a double room it's not worth £30. Single panelled windows, stains on the towel, awful mattress, flys on the window.. the pictures say it all. We was offered another room however the couple waiting next to us had no heating and the same issues, we received a refund and left.

"Noisy room"
elainepenny23, 29 Mars 2022

I stayed for one night and was kept awake all night by noisy pipes outside the window, they eventually worked it out to be to do with a new boiler but I was offered no compensation at all - staff were friendly but would not stay again

"ONE NIGHT STAY"
725DebbieG, 07 Mars 2022

On arrival, heating was off in room, we turned it on. Paying £71.00 for a bed as the shower was not working was extremely steep & extremely inconvenient. The unit that connects to the wall providing water to the shower was very loose. As the bill had been pre paid there was an apology from the receptionist when told about shower and she advised we should have called down. Not ideal when you wake at 10.15am and need to be out of the room by 11am. The room was dated, maybe a revamp is on the cards - definitely needed.

nice hotel, right at the top of the high st so close enough to get to most things bust just far enough to be quiet at night. good safe parking, great staff, really helpful and friendly, decent size rooms, food is really good

"Very very poor"
tracyslack10768, 30 Janvier 2022

This is probably one of the worst hotels I have stayed in, in need of some attention and cleaning, the entrance to the rooms was absolutely filthy with a dirty curtain trying to hide some cardboard, the outside had a table and chairs covered in bird muck and was unusable and the rooms were very dated and grubby. The room was red hot with a leaking radiator and a note saying do not use, the bed was ok but pillows were so hard it was hard to sleep. Our daughter slept on a bed settee which was like a board. Shower was a dribble and stopped before my partner could even use it. Staff were quite pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was good. Overall its one of the worst nights sleep that I've ever had and there is no way I would use this hotel again.

"Lovely, if brief, stay"
colinwA8374KQ, 30 Janvier 2022

We had a very enjoyable one night stay (29/1/22). We booked the Victoria Room with its 4 poster bed for my Wife's birthday as we has a restaurant booked up the road and didn't fancy having to drive home afterwards. The hotel is very old and so, as you would expect, floors are uneven and creaky. However, the decor was fresh and good quality and the bathroom was modern with a good shower over the bath. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Good choices with unlimited juices and cereals and freshly cooked all English. Free parking is avilable for guests. The only slight gripe was the staffing. The lovely woman on reception was also working the behind the bar so checking in took longer than it should have. Not sure there couldn't have been a second member of staff available as the poor woman was run off her feet.

"Overnight stay"
Farleigh3, 24 Janvier 2022

The staff on arrival were very pleasant, helpful and caring. The hotel is quite old and the building shows this, which is good. It does need updating, but because it is old it needs to keep its character.

"perfect location"
tkerr2022, 24 Janvier 2022

Book the old historic rooms for the main building they are are real treat, book the dining if the restaurant has clients in it would be very much a not enjoyable experience to be in a large room as a couple,

"Bit out dated but great location"
rar270, 16 Janvier 2022

I've stayed a few times and the hotel is pretty old and some areas do look in disrepair. The location is great and staff were very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately on our last visit the radiator did not work and the room (staying in January) was absolutely freezing. As we got in late we were too tired to report but mentioned it as we left

"Disappointing visit "
janet b, 29 Novembre 2021

The shower was a weak trickle, the towel rail wasn't switched on so all the towels were very cold as was the bathroom. Overall the whole room looked tired with old tatty furniture, mirror and fittings. There were coffee options with normal and decaff but only Tetley tea bags, no choice! Very disappointed.

"Not what you see in the photos."
foxinthebox2002, 24 Novembre 2021

I liked the look of the hotel, from the photos all you see is the main building and rooms. The room we were actually allocated was out the back by the car park. These are not in the publicity photos and are very basic with paper thin walls. Room next door had their telly on at 7am and we could hear every word from bbc news channel. Shower was inadequate, rooms can't be cleaned too well as a cotton bud was under the bathroom sink throughout our 3 day visit.

"nice staff but hotel definitely needs renovation"
jhschuetz, 21 Novembre 2021

Stayed in the Best Western Rose and Crown in Tonbridge because it is conveniently located in town. Staff was very nice, room service (maids) great where cleaning was concerned. This is most important. We know that due to the Covid pandemic staff is short in hotels and restaurants: But: One can do a simple bit to "upgrade" an impression: Examples: Not only wilted but mummified flowers in all !!! flower boxes . So empty at least the boxes if one des not plant new flowers. Weeds growing along the walls. Worst: Discarded cigarette butts everywhere, even in the entrances to the back side hotel building. So they get stuck under your shoes and you take them to your room. Seems nobody bothers about swinging a broom at least once a day . Room. Door scratched , headpiece of bed scratched. Furniture in the whole scratched and not up to usual Best Western standard, stains on the armrests of the chairs. Kingsize bed, good mattress, good cushions, clean. Carpet okay. Heating did not work properly. Bath was clean , nice and big enough. But for the room-price you should expect more. Breakfast was good.

"Very tired hotel"
GranadaConcierge, 16 Novembre 2021

Given that this is clearly a historic property on a busy high street, it is a realty shame that Best Western or the hotel management seems to be happy to let it fall into a poor state of repair. Everything about the hotel appeared tired, including the staff. The towels in the bathroom were dirty and we had to asked for them to be changed. Even the 'clean' towels had that tired off-white colour from years of laundering. The cistern on the loo took an age to refill; we had to fill it by hand in the end. The side entrance to the hotel was tatty and the view from our bedroom was pretty grim. We understand that Covid has undeniably had an impact on the hospitality sector, but this hotel badly needs some TLC. If the current management no longer wants to invest in this hotel, then my advice would be to find new managers/owners who will make the most of this building.

"Poor hygiene standards"
T6022UMjuliem, 31 Octobre 2021

Location is good with lots of nearby amenities, the bed was comfy & the staff were pleasant. Sadly there's few other positives, the shower was pathetic, the loo hardly flushed & the room needed a serious deep clean. It represented poor value for money in my opinion.

"Cosy and comfortable hotel in a great location!"
TwoAshes, 12 Octobre 2021

The location of the Rose & Crown is perfect and if you like quirky old historical buildings, this is just the ticket. The service is personal and a little old fashioned (in a good way) and in general this hotel represents good value for money. I've had breakfast here several times on previous stays and it's very good indeed!

"Pleasantly surprised"
CeebeeM, 06 Octobre 2021

After reading Tripadvisor reviews I have to admit I wasn't expecting a great deal from my overnight stay at the Rose & Crown. This was borne out somewhat when I arrived on a rainy night: finding my way through the higgledy piggledy rabbit warren, that is to be expected in a hotel as historic as this one, I found my small-ish room rather dark. Brown walls, one of the 3 overhead spotlight bulbs had gone and the reading light didn't work. But then I was arriving tired and wet. Actually the room was cosy and fairly quiet with a very comfortable bed and a nice bathroom. I didn't try the shower (after bad reviews) but had a bath. But where the Rose & Crown came up trumps was the staff. The gentleman at reception and one of his staff went to great lengths to find me a phone charging cable when I realised I'd forgotten mine. I had a good breakfast (full English - £11.25), served quickly by a friendly waitress. Finally the gentleman in reception (the manager?) was very helpful in finding me a taxi in double-quick time, when the heavens opened again. And looked after my case until I could return a little later. All in all a very pleasant stay - I would stay there again

"Nice stay overnight stop Good Breakfast"
anthonykitchen, 31 Août 2021

We had a Overnight at the Rose & Crown with Breakfast included value for Money Good friendly staff. right in the Centre of Tonbridge 15 minute in a cab to Tunbridge Wells . Breakfast was Spot on full English cook to order, + Cereals and a Good Cup of Tea.

"Expensive but overall OK."
superxrose, 30 Août 2021

Great location, right in the middle of Tonbridge high street and near the castle. I wouldn't stay here again out of choice, it's definitely no frills but fine for a night. Our shower wasn't great (more of a dribble) but I've raised this with best western.

"Good Location for wedding in Edenbridge"
428gedf, 20 Août 2021

Arrived at hotel and easy parking around the back of the building. Met by friendly manager but very surprised at having to pay before we had even stayed the night - like wise for a coffee we ordered half an hour after arriving and asked to pay immediately. Room reasonable size with ok bathroom with well clean bath and shower. Telly worked well and good bedside lights also coffee and tea in basket with containers of milk. Stale slightly sweet smelling and rather tired feel to room including lumpy but comfortable mattress- Our view was of the carpark but not sure what else you can expect when staying in the centre of a town. As we were about to leave for the wedding asked the manager about parking when returning and told no guarantee of a place and may have to try for a spot on the street - not what you would hope for when paying £140 for b&b. Arriving back at the hotel there was a wedding in full swing but to their credit the music stopped bang on 12. In the morning met by friendly staff serving an excellent full English breakfast. Overall I would say an OK visit but would attempt to find another place to stay when returning to Kent.

"Handy location."
88AlanK, 09 Août 2021

Handy location for a friend I was visiting. Hotel is ok, a little tired, a little saggy.. The poor staff seemed very overworked at breakfast. Also the shower in my room was useless... It was probably easier to go stand in the rain outside. Also the tap spat water at me, not nice when its boiling hot.

"That personal touch"
standardtank, 28 Juillet 2021

As soon as you step over the threshold of the Rose & Crown you step back in time. Not only does this beautiful 16th century coaching house offer a quaint charm, but it's staff take the time to say hi, like they used to in the good old days. Your not just another guest at the R&C, your genuinely welcomed. So a stunning building, great people and some really scrumptious grub too… Staying at the R&C is a welcome break from the faceless monotony of other chains. Give it a try if your in the area.

"Good Location Historic Building"
Judy W, 27 Juillet 2021

Would have liked to have given a better review, but bedroom let them down very shabby. Lumpy bed , poor shower really a hand held shower toilet needed attention. Room was clean friendly staff. Breakfast was good Full English £11 extra. Fabulous very accessible location if you don't mind discomfort, you need to drive round the back of the hotel to get to the car park

"Incredibly poor"
Jay B, 12 Juillet 2021

One of the worst experiences in a hotel ever. The rooms are incredibly poorly fitted out and in bad repair, beds are uncomfortable, walls are paper thin and the amenities as basic as they can get. It also represents appalling value for money given the price. Staff were friendly and helpful but clearly it was a skeleton crew with staff taking on multiple roles (reception / bar etc.) Please avoid and go elsewhere.

Rooms a bit dated but clean. Staff helpful and the hotel is well placed on the high street with easy parking. Had no problem checking in or also out felt safe in terms of Covid 19. Excellent full English breakfast! I would stay there again.

"Not best Western.standards"
970SimonD, 02 Juin 2021

You have no idea where the car park is until you check in, so suggest they provide this on booking. We are actually staying separate from the pub in some sort of outbuilding. I don't know whether the hotel is in under some sort of improvement programme. The shower in the bathroom is useless unless you actually remove the shower head from the holder you will not get hardly any water coming out, which is not great when you have shower gel all over you. The bedroom is nothing special to be honest quiet mediocre. The mattresses are well past there sell by date which is not great when you have back problems like myself. I awoke this morning feeling like I had been trampled on by the local rugby team. There is mould all over the bathroom ceiling which is a pet hate for me because there really is no need for it, the cleaners should be taking more care also maybe I suggest maintenance maybe paint the ceiling every 3 weeks or so as the bathroom is very small it wouldn't cost much. On the plus side the staff are very friendly and the breakfast was really good. All things considered I doubt I would stay again

"Superb in difficult times"
Steve-Woodlaithes, 19 Mai 2021

Stayed Tuesday 18 May in difficult times, due to pandemic. Well I can say the hotel follows all guidelines and is excellent place to stay. The check in was easy. The room was spacious and comfortable too, all clean and immaculate. Bathroom was clean, well presented and plenty of room. Food was good too, even thou a limited menu at these times. It was good service and a friendly member of staff who served. The food was hot and served well presented too. Breakfast was excellent as well, friendly service too from the host Nick. It was cooked to order too and hot. I would recommend this hotel anytime, will be using again.

"Very poor"
tala672, 16 Février 2021

I get this hotel is old and has character but the rooms are very dated , very little money gets spent by the looks which is amusing as the cost to stay here is expensive. Bathrooms are disgusting , shower doesn't work , you can't stand anywhere without the floor feeling like it's going to go through . Wi-fi was ok but then didn't work the rest of the stay . Nothing really gets replenished in the room and you have to basically beg to have room cleaned and new towels . Overall very poor .

"Extremely dated hotel"
mattitto, 12 Février 2021

One of the worst hotels i get the displeasure of staying in, unfortunately there are not many other hotels in Tonbridge and the only thing this one has going for it is how close it is to the train station.

"Loved our stay"
tinawort, 20 Octobre 2020

We spent 2 nights here at the weekend and had a wonderful break. The hotel is so full of character but spotlessly keen. Covid rules are taken seriously and we felt very safe. Andrew the manager was very welcoming and seemed to always be on duty. The full English breakfast was gorgeous, one of the best we have had in the hotel. We will definitely return if we are in the area.

"Overnight stay in Tonbridge"
949emmag, 16 Octobre 2020

We recently had a fabulous night away with our son at this hotel. The (2)? Staff members running the reception and restaurant were an absolute pleasure - helpful, friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was delicious and set us up for an exploration of the town and castle the next day. We will definitely be back!

"Great one night break"
Frontera2, 04 Octobre 2020

We stayed with a friend for one night as we wanted somewhere we could catch up and have a short break away from home. Very warm welcome from Andrew who seems to be running the place almost single handedly - but honestly he's a credit to the hospitality industry - nothing was too much trouble and he was always really friendly and helpful. Rooms were ok although we were allocated rooms in the annexe outside rather than the main building. Comfortable bed and clear that COVID measures had been taken. We ate in the hotel, a limited menu but the quality was good all the same with a decent Rioja to go with it. Breakfast was cooked to order and tasty - just a shame there was no black pudding. A really good little break and would recommend, especially if Andrew is looking after you.

"Full Of Character"
SelbyAndy, 03 Septembre 2020

Stayed here for the business meeting, although the hotel is old it has loads of character, ever stayed in a hotel with wooded beams in the ceiling and with a really odd room numbering system/location. The rooms are well appointed, good bed, good morning shower. The full english breakfast was very tasty and filling. Will stay here again

"Rose & Crown Tonbridge"
paulcannon2020, 01 Septembre 2020

Rooms were good and staff friendly and helpful. No way to inform hotel about special provisions if any medical issues (needed a ground floor room due to heart problems) but could not book it on their website.

"Quirky and old fashioned"
Q9133AQhelenc, 25 Février 2020

Been staying at the Rose and Crown this week - in a sea of cookie cutter bland hotel suites, this experience is a bit different. The room itself is serviceable- feeling like a cross between a church (with exposed wooden beams and random peaked chairs) & your Nan's maisonette (see net curtains, box pelmets, skirts around the bed & dated floral motif soft furnishings). Beyond the tv, there's nothing modern about this room, & I for one find it amusing. The whole hotel is a bit higgilty piggilty, with its labyrinth layout, uneven floors and quaint woodwork. What makes this a great experience is the staff - on check in, we joked with the receptionist about when she felt we earned the right to check in. The floor staff in the restaurant were chatty & the breakfast speedy & delicious. It's a warm feeling to be here. Is it bang up to date? No. Is it clean, friendly and uniquely British. 100% yes!

"Very good Sunday lunch"
sooze29, 24 Février 2020

I cannot comment about the hotel as we just went for Sunday lunch as we live in Tonbridge. We went here years ago but it wasn't great so thought let's give it another go, I love Sunday lunch but am always unhappy that the roast potatoes are not cooked enough. I could not complain here, they were lovely, all of it was lovely. They were very accommodating as you could swap your veg etc. The service was really good and attentive and we had a thoroughly nice lunch. I don't usually do pudding, but seeing other peoples I had to have fruit crumble, which was lovely, probably was husband decided he liked it and ate half. We will be back, maybe an evening meal another time. Husband did say he had to have crumble because he would have liked another slice of meat, but he never has enough meat!

"Decent hotel "
martynsrobinson, 20 Février 2020

Nice welcome though had to telephone to get directions to the car park. Had to negotiate a rabbit warren of corridors and stairs to get to the room. The room was far too hot but we overlooked the High Street so it was a choice between cooking and noise. The beds were far too soft and springy, I managed to avoid seasickness every time I moved. Breakfast was nice and the coffee hot. Firmer beds and would stay again.

"Third stay"
A3760QZpeter, 12 Février 2020

Room was located in the outside anex rooms - felt that these rooms are now getting tired, decor etc. Beds have certainly seen better days. On the plus side - lovely and quite (no door banging or loud voices). Again all staff were freindly and helpfull. Good cooked food both evening and breakfast.

"Has improved since November 2019"
Gnomes37, 12 Février 2020

Stayed one night, February 6th, in the annexe. The room had been refurbished quite recently and was well presented. The curtains had clearly been made to fit and fitted well which kept the light out. All lights functioned correctly which is a big improvement. Strangely the opportunity to install a walk in shower was not taken during the refurb and the shower is still an over bath affair - not good for those of us getting a bit older. The right hand window was missing its security lock and this should be addressed sooner rather than later. All staff were very friendly and efficient, however, the young waiter at breakfast should really be dressed (by the hotel) in something more appropriate than his own jeans and both he and his lady colleague should refrain from personal discussions which can be overheard by guests.

"Celebration lunch for 20"
AlanShropshire_12, 27 Janvier 2020

Yesterday, I hosted lunch for 20 friends and relatives in the Oak Room. I live over 200 miles away so had to rely on the staff to understand and delivery what we wanted. They did brilliantly on both counts! Food very nice. Staff attentive and helpful without being intrusive. Brian on the bar made sure the beer was on good form. All in all I'm grateful to all concerned at the hotel and hope others enjoy themselves as much.

"Excellent Service"
_gillianavart, 21 Janvier 2020

All good service and great food in their restaurant - dinner and breakfast. On arrival, we needed a different room and this was arranged fairly swiftly by reception. I will phone ahead next time to endue the room meets with our particular needs. And there will be a next time!

"Brilliant stay in an excellent location"
margh662020, 13 Janvier 2020

My husband and I stayed for three nights, bed and breakfast, whilst visiting friends and family in the area. Upon arrival the receptionist was welcoming, cheerful and exceptionally well organised. Our room was in keeping with the historical, listed building; it was quiet and comfortable. Every member of staff we encountered was polite, accommodating and helpful. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to others.

"Absolutely superb I would book the Rose & Crown whenever I'm in the area"
Kevin W, 10 Décembre 2019

Apart from dated decor the hotel, staff and meals are very good. not so good if you require social media connection, as there is no WIFI, but this is a good excuse to escape from it. The bed was extremely comfortable. All the usual room facilities, but the breakfast is amazing.

"Friendly and comfortable"
Jennie C, 08 Décembre 2019

We found this hotel perfectly acceptable for an overnight stay. Full marks to the staff for a good attitude. Quaint, due to being a very old building, but clean and lacking nothing that we needed. The food was not exceptional but it was good and wholesome. The bedroom and the en suite were quite spacious. A well stocked bar. One thing, it's tricky to find the entrance to car park at the rear, particularly in the dark! We eventually stopped at the front door in the High Street and obtained a 'map' at reception!

"Fine for one night"
H4041OIgolfer89, 02 Décembre 2019

Stayed for one night on my own visiting friends so the room was not particularly important as it was just somewhere to sleep. Everything creaked and floor was not level. Coffee cups were dirty and sticky. Everything was just a bit dated. There was only one shaver light in the bathroom which was dark, especially with one of the bulbs not working. The bedding was spotless and the towels and bathroom were clean. As I said, for one night fine as a place to sleep, but would not be happy if booked for a weekend away with my partner.

"It's ok"
976maddyh, 01 Décembre 2019

Can't be bothered to complain about anything, the host Justin made it all worth while, they should probably pay him an exceptional rate for more than making up for all the imperfections. My bath was wonderful too. Enjoyed my stay there.

"Great stay"
Inspiration253447, 09 Novembre 2019

Had a great stay at the Rose & Crown. Great location right in the heart of town. Rooms were spacious and spotless. We were really made welcome by Sue on the reception who looked after us all throughout our stay. Plenty off parking to the rear. All six of us had a great stay and all enjoyed a lovely breakfast in the mornings. Would definitely recommend.

"Great location"
dixonafj, 04 Novembre 2019

Great location (middle of the High Street) with flat, free parking behind the hotel. Badly signed and lit car park. Staff friendly on the whole plus one notable individual serving food - a New Zealander who was just excellent. Room old fashioned but clean and serviceable. Windows are very old and I would think fragile but they do open! Bed comfy and linen decent quality, pillows a tad firm but ok. If I had the choice between this hotel and say a premier inn Bathroom clean but shower (over bath which I hate) not usable, towels were very nice quality as were the toiletries. Tea and coffee in room with biscuits.Lighting in room a bit dull. If I wanted a Tonbridge central hotel I would definitely consider using again but would ask for a room with working shower! If I had the option of a premier inn in a similar location and price, I would def opt for the PI just to get a modern working room.

"Dirty, smelly and uncomfortable"
Jane D, 01 Novembre 2019

I stayed for the night while visiting friends and would never want to return. As rooms above an old pub, the place stank of grease from the pub fryers. The rooms were creaky and uneven, which is fine given this is a very old building. But attention to detail was poor. The light switches need to be turned on in a bizarre combination in order for them to work (I had to get help to turn the room lights on!). And in the morning, the water from both the hot and cold taps only ran boiling hot - on check out, I was told I needed to let the tap run for about 10 mins until it became cold (!!!). The overall experience was smelly, dirty and uncomfortable. If I had arrived earlier in the evening, I would have looked for somewhere else to stay instead. I would definitely not stay here again next time I visit my friends, and would not recommend this place to anyone either.

"Very comfortable but there are a few little things that could be easily improved"
olympusid, 20 Octobre 2019

Lovely comfortable beds but we unfortunately had to change rooms at 3.30am due to a leak in the ceiling! We moved from the old part of the hotel (where the floorboards were very creaky/noisy) and were then put into a room in the "new" part which is a rather 1970's looking building alongside the car park. They have tried to make this look more appealing by hanging baskets, but they were looking past their best (probably due to time of year) and the doors to the rooms themselves look extremely dated. The rooms had everything you needed but in our second room the hot tap moved when you used it and the toilet flush kept popping up. The phone in our original room did not work - not good when you try to ring it as 3.30am to report a leak! There was a cracked/broken mug in our room but this was quickly replaced when we brought it to reception's attention - but I feel that housekeeping should have noticed this already. Our second room only had 1 ceiling light so was rather dim in the room - needed the bedside lights on at the same time as the only light was next to the door entrance. It would have been a good idea for the management to put a note on the outside doors about closing them quietly at night, as for 2 of our 3 night stay there was lots of late-night door slamming and talking loudly in the corridors taking place. The outside needed a general tidy up, which to be honest would only take a few minutes - the smoking courtyard had lots of cigarette butts that could easily have been picked up and the baskets in the windows next to the road had rubbish and branches in them. But one major no-no was the staff smoking on the steps leading to the "annex" rooms - surely they should have been smoking somewhere out of sight of paying guests. Also, a member of kitchen staff finished his cigarette in front of us and just threw it into a parking bay where it continued to smoulder - the staff should definitely not be doing this, especially in front of guests! You do need to use the postcode provided for the car park with the SatNav as it is down side streets behind the actual hotel, but it is excellent having the free parking as it is right on the main street with all the shops, restaurants, castle and river very nearby - we didn't use the car at all whilst here. Excellent location. Breakfast was very good, staff were friendly and the complimentary toiletries and coffee etc were re-stocked every morning. I may have moaned about a few things, but I would still recommend the hotel and would return if in the area again. Taking some basic steps to tidy up the outside and keep it clean would go a long way!

"Business - one night stay"
A3760QZpeter, 16 Octobre 2019

It must be appreciated that this is a very old property - but still carfully maintained in the main areas of the buildings. The bedrooms and hallways certainly are in need of a "spring clean" and general tidy up. The shower in room No 9 left a lot to be desired. Lots os stairs leading to the warren of rooms - but as on old coaching house whhat would you expect. The property still holds some good fetures.

"Best Western the Rose and Crown - Tonbridge"
lulu540, 20 Septembre 2019

Best Western the Rose and Crown - Tonbridge Stayed here for a night. Very lovely stay with no issues. All mod cons and everything one would expect from a hotel. Location is great with an outdoor pool nearby and trains run smoothly and on time. Tonbridge has lots of thrift shops.

"Best Sunday roast"
1dormy, 16 Septembre 2019

Amazing Sunday roasts served in restaurant overlooking Tonbridge Castle. Superb choice of meats and individual portions of fresh veg. Very reasonably priced and served by great staff under the watchful eye of the charming Justin.

"David"
oscarhuddart, 13 Septembre 2019

:s but they are acceptable .Poor lighting in corridors .only give out 1 key per 2 person rooms which is a pain . Good location next to Pubs and Restaurants is the best part of the Hotel and secure free Carparking is good also . Overall not bad

"Super Service"
pspurgeoncbe, 02 Septembre 2019

Six of us enjoyed a night's stay at this conventional, slightly old fashioned hotel. Positive features included a warm welcome (from Tracy and Lyn), early check-in (arranged because of an engagement elsewhere), comfortable accommodation and a very good breakfast (stage-managed by Justin). Our bathroom would have benefited from more space to put things, but that is a common drawback which did not detract much from our enjoyment.

"Tired and grubby"
Jonathan D, 01 Septembre 2019

My wife and I stayed at the Rose and Crown over this weekend. The staff are great but whoever is in charge isn't they desperately need to hire a cleaner. Our room was incredibly stuffy,no air conditioning. The room was minging, it hadn't been cleaned, the carpet was stained, the runner on the bottom of the bed was stained, the curtains a brown stain on them, the walls and furniture were covered in dust and fluff The bathroom door had pubic hair on it aswell. Not a very pleasurable experience at all to be honest. The rooms are tired and desperately need updating.

"Refurb Overdue"
ross7627, 30 Août 2019

Staff were all very friendly and helpful, a real credit to the place. The room though clean was long overdue some modernisation, shower in the room didn't work and the wardrobe had a musty smell to it. Breakfast was very good, staff at breakfast were very pleasant.

"Unique"
Lynden C, 26 Août 2019

Wonderful ambience in the older part, built in 15th century, ( The Duchess of Kent used to stay here on her way to Hastings, and bring her daughter Victoria who became the Queen of England in 1837, and one of the employees working here, ancestors owned the Rose and Crown from 1728 to 1750). Lots of parking, no elevators , but we were given two rooms in the newer addition ( built probably in 1960's), and it is only two floors. Parking is free. No air conditioning, but windows open up. Clean, spacious rooms, and staff are very friendly. Cosy rooms, in that if you do not have your tv on, you can hear from one room beside you when they belch, or snore or do other activities, at the same time as the room on the other side having an animated conversation, and people above you walking back and forth. The church bells go every 15 minutes and are lovely to hear. Lots of old pubs dating from 1300 to 1500 's right outside your door, as well as KFC, pizza, and other fast foods.

"A treasure in Tonbridge"
Shaun B, 22 Août 2019

Lovely warm welcome received upon arrival, great car private car parking facility. Lovely bar area and great restaurant. Excellent staff all round, great well priced food. Fantastic location in the centre of Tonbrige. Rooms are a little tired, but all clean, with hot water and tea and coffee, bottled water etc. Quiet and relaxing stay. Free wifi

"Tired and Dirty"
philh188, 21 Août 2019

Stayed there last night. Room 12. Shower was stuck on extra hot, so had to have a bath, and from the bath, the room has a different perspective. Clearly one that no-one has seen before. See the pictures. Apart from the cleanliness, it was like stepping back in time. I wonder when any decorating, or new furniture had been done. Wi-fi was good. But I'd still give it a miss.

"Mostly good Hotel, Clean and Friendly, But needs some TLC"
Dave_House, 16 Août 2019

Staff are usually always friendly and helpful, rooms are alaways clean and fresh. The hot water is alawys an issue and is need of repir/updating. The breakfast are always good with a wide varity of selection.

"Worth the stay"
jamespye01, 12 Août 2019

I booked the hotel for a friends wedding that was taking place 30 seconds from the hotel. A lot of the guest for the wedding stayed at the hotel. I spent two days at the hotel. Both times i had no issues. Staff helped out if you needed anything. I didn't have my room made up for the time i was there so couldn't comment on. For what you pay to what you get i cannot complain. I would defiantly stay here again. My friend does live not to far from it as well so it is in a perfect location.

"Friendly staff but a tired hotel"
MikeyBC4889NZ, 10 Août 2019

I last stayed at the Rose and Crown around 20 years ago. Little has changed over that time! Although some would find that a comfort, it is in need of a spruce up throughout. I thought the staff were lovely and the cooked breakfast very good indeed.

"An average stay!"
Denise G, 07 Août 2019

My friend and I stayed here for one night whilst walking The Weald Way. We had a room across the coirtyward from the pub looking out over the back of a row of houses and a scrubby bit of garden. The room was a decent size and clean but a little tired. Breakfast was very average. Cooked options were ok. Cheese was rubbery and tasteless. Fruit salad was bland and unvaried. The pastries were the only good thing really. For £79 plus breakfast, this was reasonable but not somewhere I would rush back to.

"Needs a little TLC"
smbmeb95, 22 Juillet 2019

Staff very nice and helpful we had a good stay. The hotel just needs a bit updating and TLC as looking a bit sorry for itself in some areas e.g chairs in eating area. Good location and free parking a plus

"Here for a wedding "
susanh022, 21 Juillet 2019

We stayed here for three nights as we were over from Ireland for a wedding. The hotel is really old style English but is in need of refurbishment and an air con system fitted. The rooms were extremely hot and we had to leave windows open day and night and there was what sounded like a generator going constantly outside our window. However the rooms are very clean and fresh laundry and bits and pieces around the kettle left daily. The staff are very friendly. We didnt eat here as the breakfast is £11 and wetherspoons was just down the road with a full breakfast for just over £5.

"Short break"
Steviepooh, 18 Juillet 2019

We chose Best Western as we very much like their range of hotels. This one was a little disappointing. It is a little bit shabby and in need of a refurb. We stayed in a garden room which looked out over a neglected lawn.Having said that the beds were very comfortable and the breakfast adequate.

"Rose and Crown Tonbridge."
NorthStar10768426221, 13 Juillet 2019

everything was clean and the staff friendly and helpful. As I was their to visit a family member who lived in the area it was an ideal position. The hotel arranged our taxi journeys with no hassle. Hoping to come back again.

"Lovely Area, No Privacy"
lhinch227504, 12 Juillet 2019

The area itself was lovely, however the ground floor rooms didn't have very much privacy, the church bells were ringing early in the morning (I know that can't be helped) however because there was no air con we had to have the windows open which made the noise louder. We had workmen working outside of our hotel over the wall therefore we had to get ready for a wedding with the curtains pull, and the room pretty much in darkness because our lights didn't work. The staff were lovely although weren't keen on check out when a dog was at reception, but thats just me as I am scared of dogs. Overall a goodstay.

"An ok stay"
AngelaO099, 28 Juin 2019

Not the best but it was ok. We didn't eat there and just stayed the night. The room was clean and had toiletries provided. Breakfast was served pleasantly and was was varied. Good location for where we needed to be.

"Lovely"
Navigator39646263926, 17 Juin 2019

Lovely staff. Lovely room, lovely area. Couldn't be more happier. The breakfast was definitely worth the price although I was unsure at first. The manager was lovely although a little patronising to other members of staff. (I'm only assuming it was the manager.)

"Poor and out dated"
Tamper, 07 Juin 2019

I stop in this place for work I won't if I had the choice it's very out dated at not that clean the beds are very uncomfortable But on the good side the breakfast is not bad and the staff are friendly The car park is a bit on the small side There was that much dust in my room if there was any dust mites they would be the biggest in the uk

"Mediocre"
rob888198, 06 Juin 2019

Staff were fine, no complaints. Hotel is outdated with paper thin walls and single glazing. Very noisy and can hear everything going on in the room next door. It was incredibly hot, the hotel has no air con and also ran out of fans. WiFi was patchy. Breakfast was fine. Next time I'll stay at the premier inn up the road!

"Lovely spot"
mary2565, 04 Juin 2019

We had a lovely room with twin beds, clean and comfortable. The room had been renovated and had lights in the ceiling, so one could comfortably read, unlike most dim North American hotels. The bathroom was shiny with new looking tile, and a heated towel rack which worked beautifully for drying any clothes we rinsed out at night. There was a problem with the tub. There was half a glass door which wasn't very good to hang onto when getting out of the tub, and there wasn't anything else to hang onto. The bottom of the tub was about six inches higher than the floor so seemed a little tricky. I got so I took a chair in to hang onto. . Also the mirror in the bathroom was for a person about 6 ft 6. The staff were very pleasant, and the way up to the room was up a few steps, down a little hall, turn a corner , go through a door, go down a step, go a few steps, turn, etc. Kind of fun. We stayed four nights and felt right at home. We did not have breakfast, which looked good, but pricey. A nice little garden area to sit outside and smoke.

"Not your standard hotel"
888benl, 04 Juin 2019

Hotel with old fashion charm. If you want a hotel with all mod cons and rooms all the same this is not the hotel for you. Friendly hotel with lots of character and close to the centre of Tunbridge. Some rooms in the old hotel have poor showers. Rooms in the new sections that are more modern facilities and better showers

"couldn't be better"
Passenger05682915071, 20 Mai 2019

A ten star staff. From the front desk, Alex and John were helpful and friendly every day. The restaurant was excellent. Lyn our waitress served our meals with a smile. She was helpful every day with suggestions of where to spend the day. Our six night stay did not have a single poor moment. I apologize for not remembering the names of all the staff. The Rose and crown exceeded our every expectation.

"Awful Experience After this would not Stay with Best Western again"
Wander02154807520, 17 Mai 2019

Booked this room for an overnight stay to attend an event being held locally, Only one person on Reception who was on the phone to a customer when we arrived, Took several minutes to book in. Very helpful receptionist who kindly moved us to a more appropriate room on a lower floor as my wife has recently had a Knee op. The room was clean, but the TV remote did not work correctly. Try as we might we were unable to get the ceiling lights to work. There was a tissue dispenser in the bathroom which had only 2 tissues in it. Went out in the evening and was greeted downstairs in the bar area with a smell of possibly poor sanitary plumbing. When we came back the car park was such a shambled layout that we could only park in disabled bay. Surprise when I went to inform reception, the same member of staff was on the phone again to a customer, causing another wait of several minutes. Very disappointing would think twice before staying with Best? Western again and not a bargain at over £75 without Breakfast for a night. We also ended up with pigeons roosting outside the front windows disrupting a nights sleep

"Decent value with the added breakfast."
erick d, 14 Mai 2019

Would have given it 4 stars for history / age and value but they REALLY need to upgrade the mattresses. Everything in the Hotel we experienced showed considerable wear except for the bathroom in our room, it was modern and clean.

"Beautiful building in heart of Tonbridge"
ProfRocks, 12 Mai 2019

Stayed here after a function nearby. Staff were very helpful with parking and us coming back very late. Beautiful old building and generous size rooms with comfy beds. Breakfast was excellent with a great selection.

"A little gem of a restaurant"
Julie C, 22 Avril 2019

Our son had his wedding reception at this establishment 18 months ago so thought w3 would return for a family meal to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Lovely food promptly and pleasantly served by cheerful waiting staff. Recommend a visit; you will not be disappointed.

"Not the best"
Jamie8171, 13 Avril 2019

Arrived here and loved the look of the building from outside it was full of character. When I walked through the door I could tell straight away this place was passed it's best. Check in was pleasant enough and I set off to my room. The rooms are ok nice and warm and clean but very basic. I had a steak evening meal there which left a lot to be desired and breakfast in the morning was average at the best. Staff where great in fairness, but definitely not the best.

"great hotel"
Ronald W, 08 Avril 2019

great old hotel, very good restaurant and staff. in a very old town, just a nice place. House keeping was very helpful, front staff very helpful, bartenders did a great job. wifi is very good. lots of hot water, good beds, towels very warm

"3 and a half stars"
Tarah2325, 29 Mars 2019

The location is excellent only a short walk from the railway station at Tonbridge. On checking in I was asked to pay my bill which I wanted to do in cash but was then told I would need to leave a £20 deposit in case I trashed my room which didn't make sense as I had already secured my booking with a credit card. I payed by card in the end as I didn't want to be delayed on check out. My room was a single on the road side. There was double glazing but the traffic noise was quite considerable. However after a pint and with ear plugs I managed to sleep. The bedroom was warm. nicely decorated and the bed was comfortable. The shower room was new but it was not clean around the toilet area. The heated towel rail was leaking at times. Also there was no basket in the shower to hold soap, shampoo etc. I didn't eat at the hotel but there is a Wetherspoons across the road for cheap eats. As the hotel is on the high street there are many restaurants and coffee shops.

"Very Tired"
Pete D, 26 Mars 2019

The hotel and rooms are in need of a complete update. The price charged is in competition with hotels in a completely different league. I stay away a lot and this hotel I would rank in the bottom three of all time. The only positives were that the room was clean and the food was ok. Avoid if possible.

"Nice hotel"
Gary092, 26 Mars 2019

Stayed on business for one night. The hotel is an old building and, as such, the room was a little quirky but, nevertheless, generally clean and warm with nice fluffy towels, bath products, a comfortable bed, tea and coffee and water and good wifi. The lady on reception was very friendly and really helpful - I needed a plug with a USB fitting and this was provided immediately (THANK YOU). We were offered recommendations for amenities in the town and, again, very helpful (I'm really sorry, I didn't take your name - lady was on late shift on Monday 25th March). We had a few drinks in the bar until quite late and the night porter served us after general closing time. Breakfast was very good and, once again, the staff were very friendly. Check out was efficient. I suppose, in summary, a nice hotel that was enhanced by its staff.

"NOT A HOTEL IF YOU APPRECIATE QUALITY OR IF YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DISABILITY PROBLEMS"
CHIEF-EXECUTIVE1, 26 Mars 2019

Well I am either just the unluckiest person in the world or this could happen to everybody, firstly to highlight this is not a hotel for people with a disability or mobility problems, this hotel was booked on my behalf by somebody else as an emergency accommodation, I am registered blind as well as having mobility issues with my ankles and also spinal surgery for spinal problems. Firstly even the driver found it nearly impossible to find the private parking area at the rear of the hotel you have to do a complete loop of the city high street and then go down narrow dark back streets (we arrived evening). On arrival in the private parking area we discovered it to be completely dark and unlit in the parking area (not very welcoming or making you feel safe), I even tripped over a kerb trying to walk to the rear of the hotel. We booked in and were shown to our rooms which was on the next floor up, immediately I identified how severely the floor was uneven every step of the way every step the floor had a dip or a hump or floorboards that dropped an inch or 2, now before anybody states its a 400 to 500 year old building you can expect uneven floors, I would not have expected the floors to be that bad in any business due to safety reasons and other factors which I will not ramble on about. Also it was immediately apparent how poorly dimly lit every corridor and stairway was which was enhanced by the dark and dreary decor. Another factor which also hit me also was the smell which was not just the 400 to 500 year old smell it was, that "is not very well cleaned and maintained dusty smell" which on arrival in the room was even stronger. We only placed my bag in the room and went back downstairs for something to eat , now with credit the food turned out to be good and I was happy with that, however the waitress did not have a sense of humor we tried to laugh and joke with her to cheer her up but in the end she asked us to stop because she was having a bad day. I then had a drink at the bar and requested a glass of port however in my opinion the port was off and potentially had been opened a considerable number of weeks before or even months. I retired to my room and had not been informed that the bathroom / toilet in the room had to be accessed up approximately a flight of 5 or 6 high steep steps the steps were "exceptionally" narrow at the top step being only 2 inches wide as you stepped out of the bathroom / toilet I would say is lethal if you miss that step then you'd miss the rest hence why the big sign on the back of the bathroom door saying STEP DOWN covers them for insurance reasons but no good to a blind person I was only informed of this after. Then when I attempted to go and get into bed I tripped up on a huge 8 to 10 inch gradient hump in the floor Directly in front of the bed, the whole floors in the property reminded me of the fairground attraction of a "fun house" with all the waving wobbly humpy floors, and every inch of every floor was like something out of a cartoon for high pitched creaking cracking and squeaking of every floor board and believe me they were extra loud. Then I tried getting into bed and immediately thought there was something wrong and when I tried to re-position myself I literally rolled out of and off the bed onto the floor, and discovered the bed was broke and abnormal that it was broke in the centre but it was 10 inches fatter at one side and only 4 inches fat at the other side making the bed lean at nearly a 40 degree angle. I tried to lie again on the bed holding onto it hoping I'd fall asleep but the pain in my back became excruciating due to my spinal surgery and back problems, so at 3.30am I call reception and informed the manager about it and all the other problems, he just said there was nothing he could do tonight that he would report it at some point tomorrow, I argued my case stating I'd paid for a room that was not fit for purpose and that I had traveled over 6 hours to attend a hospital appointment first thing in the morning and I had to leave at 7am, he attempted to look for empty rooms on the system but kept saying no have nothing then he found one and said he would be up in a minute to take me around to show me it. He arrived at my room and I pointed at the bed and said "do you think that is fit for purpose look at it" all the manager did was slightly tut and sarcastically said "yep" I pointed out the hump in the floor in-front of the bed all he did again was tut and say "yep its and old building what do you expect". He then took me around to see the other room and it was lethal trying to navigate safely through the rabbit warren corridors, there was 3 steps up here 2 steps down here another step down here followed by 4 steps up here the corridors was extra dark not lit it had black carpet no step edges were marked or highlighted. On arrival at the other room it was apparent the room was bigger but the floorboards even noisier, the manager took me back for my bags and not at any stage did he offer to carry any of my bags even though he was aware I was registered blind and was having serious trouble navigating the corridors and steps. when the manager left me in the new room the first thing I went to do was go to the loo but when I touched the light switch plate outside the toilet I received an electric shock. The other annoyance and frustration was there are no plug sockets next to the beds at all there was only one plug socket on the opposite side of the room being used by the kettle or the lamp, which means you can not have your phone next to you for your alarm or internet whilst charging it which means if you have medical equipment such as a CPAP machine for sleeping your screwed, both myself and my driver had flat batteries on our phones the following morning so we had a comparison of 3 rooms with all the same issues and problems in every room. I strongly stated my complaints at the desk the following morning and there was absolutely no offer or suggestion of a part refund, complete refund or a future discount if we ever stayed again for all the inconvenience and the rooms not being fit for purpose, which I think demonstrates the exceptional poor customer care and lack of interest in customer feedback you give them and the evidence was there for them to see, my opinion the building is what it is a 400 to 500 year old building with people working in it of the same mindset as the age of the building "highway robbery comes to mind, they grab your money and run" so prospective customers think twice before booking here you would have a far more luxurious night at a cheaper price finding a travel lodge or a premier inn !!

"Lovely historic hotel"
Traveler17297905862, 25 Mars 2019

Fantastic hotel, nice warm rooms and great service. Very comfortable beds and a lovely range of food on the menu. Loved that the chef had a special board too. Loved the decor of the hotel room and the spacious car park

"Overnight stay"
Nannatrish, 19 Mars 2019

Stayed at this hotel for a overnight stay after a Christmas party locally. The staff were so helpful the room was more than comfortable and clean the breakfast was buffet style not my favourite style of service but was hot and plentiful. The drinks at the bar were not over priced and the service was very good. We will defiantly recommend this hotel again and would not hesitate to stay again if we need a reasonably price place to stay in Tonbridge

"Very good hotel and location"
sally b, 12 Mars 2019

Great location in Tonbridge - good facilities and excellent food for both evening meal and breakfast. Very helpful staff - a lovely stay. Caught a bus from outside the hotel to Tunbridge Wells - good way to explore the area

"Rose and Crown"
Guide03584304102, 01 Mars 2019

Well placed hotel right in the centre of Tonbridge, some of the rooms are looking a little tired but free onsite parking and WiFi Good value for the money. Despite being in the centre very quiet and no problem sleeping at night

"Happy Time"
Hotspurs, 10 Février 2019

Stayed overnight at the Rose & Crown on the 8th/9th of February, enjoyable couple of days yet again. Had two lovely evening meals there, and excellent breakfasts. Hope we fit in another visit this year. Special mention to the restaurant staff, especially Justin.

"Fantastic Sunday dinner"

"Good Value. Good Service. Great Breakfast. Badly let down by the Showers"
Leigh O, 21 Janvier 2019

I've stayed here three times now - once a year or so ago in the "new" area (?) away from the main building, and twice recently in the hotel itself. As many have said, the main building is a bit quirky, with squeaky floorboards things at a tilt. Don't mind that. Adds to the charm. Rooms are clean, and the bedrooms comfortable. Even if you're staying in a room near the main road it's quiet, which is great. But the showers. Come *ON* Rose and Crown - what the hell is going on with them? Twice now, staying in the hotel, the water just dribbles out of the shower head. There's no pressure there AT ALL and I do like a decent shower. And I'm not even kidding, it just dribbles out so you have to stand right next to the taps / mixer to even stand a chance of getting wet. Worse still, the last stay there a couple of months back the shower door didn't really work and the whole shower itself had a plasticky feel and was rattling off it's screws. It's really letting the whole experience down. Come on guys. Seriously? That's TWICE this has happened. It'd be a five-star rating otherwise as the service is great. Haven't had a drink there but the breakfast is great and tasty, and much needed after a night out. Could do with a bit more orange juice in the glass dispenser but that could be because I always get there a bit late! Good parking too. Now... sort the showers and water pressure out!

"Business Events"
diningdiva123, 15 Janvier 2019

First class. We had an issue that was not the fault of the venue and Andrew has gone above and beyond, taking time to call me and discuss our needs to work out a solution that worked for us. Nothing is too much trouble for the team- always going the extra mile to ensure that we have everything we need. In recent events, it is Andrew's professionalism, level of customer care and clear understanding that it is how you solve a problem and nurturing relationships that is important in business - his approach to solving our issue has left us feeling confident in our intention to build a long standing relationship with this Hotel. Thank you

"Staff friendly and helpful."
barbaras2001, 04 Janvier 2019

We had to attend a funeral in late December so we chose this hotel for its location.the staff were extremely friendly and the food was good. The hotel seems a little tired now and could really do with some sprucing up.our room was at top of the hotel and you needed to be fit to climb the stairs. The bedroom was o.k. and the bathroom was kitted out with soaps etc. It has everything you need for a short stay. Monica was extremely efficient, the New Zealand waiter also. The food we had was nicely prepared.

"Friendly Hotel, Clean Rooms, Good Food"
Dave_House, 30 Décembre 2018

This is a great hotel, right on the High street in Tonbridge. Thje hotel is always clean and teh food is always good. A bit of TLC would not go a miss with a few bits, but the sqeeky floors do add a bit of character. The staff are always freindly and helpful.

"Lovely breakfast"
JaneDoe177245, 21 Décembre 2018

A couple of us had brunch here. Lovely continental breakfast. So much to choose from. A great variety and polite welcoming staff. All around a great experience. I'm looking forward to our next visit sometime in the new year

"A historic hotel which sadly feels a little run down"
suffolksarah73, 04 Décembre 2018

This stay was overnight whilst I attended a funeral. The hotel itself was quaint, you could feel the history, especially upstairs, and imagine people historically visiting it.Unfortunately it feels dated, there is a musty smell in the corridors and carpets and furniture in the rooms all looks old and the carpets especially need replacing. The walls are starting to look worn too.My room also overlooked the smoking area outside, whilst I didn't get the smell of smoke I did get to hear a number of conversations from people out there at night. The window frame does not appear to fit any more.My bathroom was cute as tucked under the stairs but I did think I was going to pull the shower door off as I tried to open it, no longer slides through it's fitting. Most of the staff were friendly, one chap in particular was very friendly.Breakfast is freshly prepared for you and very nice, though would have liked dippy eggs, my fried came hard boiled practically. In summary for a basic overnight stay this is fine, if you are looking for luxury this is not the place. Expect something dated and needing a freshen up.

"What a shame"
Ruth L, 18 Novembre 2018

I was in Tonbridge for work and decided to try The Rose and Crown Hotel. The staff were friendly and efficient my room adequate for the price but I would like to ask Best and Weston who run the hotel to send an inspector quickly to see the missed opportunities and improve the shabby common parts and the sad bar and restaurant that certainly attract more local customers if they just re-decorated and bought some decent modern furniture.... also restore the genuine old beams that have been painted over with cream paint .

"Excellent"
Chris L, 14 Novembre 2018

Friendly staff, excellent food and service, enjoyable stay. Would recommend for leisure of business, with good car parking facilities. Ideal location in a very nice town with good access to shops, restaurants etc

"Good Hotel"

We got a good rate due to membership of rewards scheme Hotel was good with only a couple of minor issues. Location was fairly central. We did not use the restaurant, though we used room service which was OK Breakfast was good

Terrible Terrible room Terrible service Downpipe through room very noisy Girl on reception when I arrived and left downright rude and couldn't care anything about customer care Breakfast average Overrated and pricey

"Family get together"
12CazaP, 30 Octobre 2018

I had a family celebration at this hotel for 30 people and it went without a hitch. Those who stayed liked their rooms, the food was excellent and the staff were exceptional. Justin in particular paid great attention to detail and is a real asset to the hotel. You have to remember this is a town hotel, an old building of character and not overpriced. It is a really good venue for celebrations and we would certainly recommend it to other people. If I had a negative I would suggest a children's menu and baby changing facilities to accommodate families.

"Best Western"
Grim_Engineer, 28 Octobre 2018

Best Western offer a wide variety of hotels usually with great character. The standards are generally good, so if you book a Best Western Hotel, you know that you will have a reasonable place to stay. I have stayed in many Best Western Hotels throughput the UK and in America too. Our local Hotel Where my Wife and I are staying at this moment) is The Best Western Plus Ullesthorpe Court Hotel. This is a great venue in which we can relax with friends and family. We often just eat here on a Sunday evening as we are going to tonight.

"Worst Western more like it"
ArthursmumHerefords, 22 Octobre 2018

Had to change room three times. Terrible plumbing, hardly any hot water. Second room, the power was off, so completely dark. Place is incredibly shabby and smelly. Trying to get a refund is another battle. I will never use Worst Western again - all other chains at least reliable, and you can get an instant result if you have to complain. This place represents nil value for money.

"A gem of a traditional town hotel"
Brian E, 22 Octobre 2018

Very comfortable stay: a lovely rambling characterful old building. Staff were very helpful and welcoming. A minor gripe is that I was served toast at breakfast which, for my taste, was overdone, having been told that the toaster only had one setting. This surprised me and I couldn't enjoy toast as I like it.

"Disappointed "
Granniesgirl17, 06 Octobre 2018

Stayed overnight as in Tonbridge for a family birthday. The room itself was fab . Except for some dust on bedside lamps and clock it was very clean . Bed was very comfortable too . We booked the room with breakfast and now wished we hadn't . The service at breakfast was really atrocious the young waiter seemed he really didn't want to be there ! We had to ask a few times for things and he got my partners breakfast all wrong I called him Over 3 times and got ignored till the fourth time he started walking over then went of to someone else ! . At the end of our cooked breakfast ( bacon was well over cooked) we asked for some fresh hot toast when it arrived 4 pieces were hot but the other 2 stone cold ! We now wish we had walked down the road to the local Wetherspoons ! Very dissatisfied

"It is what it is ...You pay for what you get"
FrenchyN8, 01 Octobre 2018

Was with a group playing sport locally and we all were booked into Rose & Crown The rooms were clean and fine ...basic but mainly males did not need more than a bed to crash on and a decent shower so it did the job. We were signed up for the house menu which was amazing value at I think £14 a head ...well you dont get too much for that but in addition they served freely cooked vegetables which were MAGIC and plentiful ( my fellow dinners did not seem to want ...but they were GREAT) ...Value for money and VERY GOOD service

"Olde world charm"
Constantine38, 15 Septembre 2018

Have stayed 3 times now. Rooms are comfortable and well equipped and the free WiFi has worked pretty well most of the time, however it was a bit hit and miss in the furthest room away from the main hotel. The food is very good . I had an evening meal with a colleague in the courtyard at the back. Nothing was too much trouble. Lovely helpful staff..breakfast is great with lots of choices. Only one downside, when the weather was extremely hot my room was very hot all night with no aircon. I had all widows wide open but to no avail. The night staff did try and find me a fan but there were non available. I'm looking forward to staying there again later this month!

"Frienly staff but pick your room"
888benl, 11 Septembre 2018

The older rooms have character. But the showers are not up to much. The new rooms have better showers. Staff are vey helpful and friendly and evening meal is good value for money Car park can be full at times and there is no off road parking close by

"Great location but ....."
CharfieldPTC, 10 Septembre 2018

This hotel was ideally placed but needs a lot of investment to sort out its issues. It's tired and it's starting to show. Our room was in the annexe and looked out over the beautiful church, but also looked out over a discarded mattress leant up against a wall. This hotel has its own car park. Big tick. The bathroom has been retiled in the past to make it seem less tired but there is no water pressure making a shower more like a dribble than a power shower. Check in and bar chaps seemed unhappy to be at work, but chap on check out was full of the joys of spring. Bottle his enthusiasm. I'm sure this was once a charming hotel and I'm sure it will be again but last weekend it was just a little lacking. We all know money is tight and the big boys can undercut with their deep pockets, so make the difference on service with a smile.

"Good location but a bit run down"
chrisinbogota, 01 Septembre 2018

Good location but hotel in desperate need of renovation. In High Street close to pubs and restaurants, but the building needs serious renovation. Bath tub was stained and window propped open by a used loo roll!

"Good service, nice people, tired hotel"
Rebecca C, 27 Août 2018

Firstly let me say that the staff were lovely, the food was nice and the room was clean so the overall stay was fine. There was nothing at all WRONG with the stay but the entire hotel is old and tired and smells funny and not in an ambient way. The moment you walk in you are greeted by a true pub smell - this diminishes slightly towards the reception area. The upholstery smells musty and the carpets are stained. The dining room smells like a bar .. it is a bar so not sure what i actually expected .. but it smells of stale smoke and beer stained floors, not ideal when having your breakfast but its a pub - what do you expect!! The room we were in was in another building, up a couple of flights of stairs with no lift - no warning that you werent going to be staying in the actual hotel. The whole place just looks a little unloved and uncared for with a mix match of outer buildings. It looks like it could be a charming and quaint little hotel but where we ended up seemed more like a overflow area where you left your granny in the home .. kinda shameful and somewhere that no-one ever speaks off. Sorry guys - but the service was good and the staff friendly & chatty and the linen was clean and there was a big TV ... so definately some positives. Beware the church bells that ruin any hope of a lie in .. but they will get you up intime for your breakfast. Overall its definately an experience and its location is perfect for the town centre.

"Not so great anymore"
lynnmarian, 07 Août 2018

Have been staying here since it was the only place in town - for many, many years while visiting family in the area. Such an historical hotel - used to be the "place to be", but since it has become a Best Western, it has lost all it's charm, although the staff do try, they are unable to address all the issues - the main building is very, very old and there does not seem to be any effort by BW to cherish and pamper the history that is this building. The "addition", the newer part is just rather "blah", typical lower end BW. This was at one time a very pricey, but excellent venue - when you actually got what you paid for - that is not the case any longer - it's pricey and it's old, and it's not kept up - it's a shame. No AC, not nice linens, and clean (?), and the dining room, which was always used by the locals and visiting school parents, when they wanted fine dining - well, that's also gone by wayside.

"Always stay here when in the area"
garyparker231, 02 Août 2018

In 2015 I stayed here for three months and 3 years in it has not changed. The staff are great Alex has been replaced with Justin where the service is better than when Alex was here and he was brilliant. The reception staff are tremendous and the bar is something not to miss. Go to a few bars and then come back as the bar is good. The rooms are also spacious and I have checked about 10 rooms and not one disappointing factor. So go here enjoy and have a great sleep.

"Started of well"
jemcl4288, 02 Août 2018

It all started well. I turned up an hour early and was pleasantly surprised to be told my room was ready. However the room smelt terrible, roasting hot and not very clean. I was in to much of a rush to ask to move. When we got back late that evening from a long day at a wedding we were very much looking forward to a good night comfortable sleep. Not a chance. The bed desperately needs ewplacing, pillows were terrible and smelt.we had to sleep with the window wide open as it was so hot. Got pleasantly women up at 6am by people shouting and laughing in the carpark. Needless to say I was not in the best of moods. On check out I was not asked how the stay was. I did however state that the room smelt really bad and the bed was horrendous and needs replacing. "Oh yes I know". Feedback was not welcomes by the trainee receptionist. Typical best westeen standard. Would not recommend.

"Family Gathering"
Jackie M, 30 Juillet 2018

We stayed here for a couple of nights whilst visiting family in Tonbridge. We were part of a family gathering and we used the hotel as all spare bedrooms were full! The staff at the hotel were all very polite, welcoming and helpful. The hotel is quite old and our room was at the top which was unpleasantly hot with no air conditioning. A very helpful maid in room service found us a fan which helped a lot. The shower wasn't very good and the shaver point didn't work, we reported both when we left but felt these should be picked up by routine checks. The room was very clean so no complaints there and the breakfast was okay. We enjoyed our stay but felt it was pricey for the room we had but it is on the High Street so a really good location. we would stay again but not in that room just because of the heat and the shower etc

"Best Western in Tonbridge"
williamzukauskas, 30 Juillet 2018

Lovely old building, unfortunately, not up to modern standards - no AC in the rooms and unlike even a bargain American hotel, no refrigerator or microwave. Stay was very uncomfortable due to the local heat wave, room was sweltering until very late at night. no elevator (lift) at the hotel and being handicapped (walking with a cane), the daily walk up and down the stairs was a little rough. The staff at the hotel made the stay enjoyable however, due to there friendliness and going out of their way to be helpful. If you are in Tonbridge when it isn't so hot, or you don't mind the old fashioned style of room, it's definitely worth a stay. If you are only used to an American style hotel, this is not the place for you.

"This hotel is tired..."
Caroline66500, 29 Juillet 2018

Booked for 2 nights two months before our stay. Every member of staff wanted to charge a different rate than that quoted on booking and charge for breakfast even though our deal included it. Asked for a quiet room so they put us over a very loud generator. Moved to another motel style room same price very tired, no fridge, no aircon so its boiling, bathroom very tired tiles lose, poor grouting, just sad. Getting a room was stressful and time consuming and business guests revved engines and slammed doors from before 7am Had to choose car park noise or frying in the hot room. Bed clean. Shower over bath in all doubles ours was not attached to the wall. Staff who took our booking did not identify themselves which was in our view shabby. Got our welcome drink points offered when we left! Breakfast was good and plentiful and its in the main road. Needs a refit, redecoration, some ramps, aircon and more staff that care.

"Dire"
Jan M, 22 Juillet 2018

Unfortunately our one night stay was awful. When we arrived the reception area was quite busy so thought we would grab a drink in the bar until it quietened down. Nooo, as the only person who could serve behind the bar was on reception. Anyway up to the room. To be fair it was a nice large room and the bed was comfortable. I decided to grab a shower before going out. Nope that wasn't happening as the cold water was nothing more than a trickle and the only way any water came out of the shower was when in was in the bottom of the bath. Husband went down to ask what could be done or move rooms. The hotel was full and maintenance had gone. Then I noticed that some of the toiletries had been used by the previous occupant. The plastic insert for the toilet roll holder didn't fit and just fell out when touched. I spoke to reception on our way out about these two issues. I assumed the toiletries would have been replaced before we returned but no. It seems any complaints go in one ear and out the other. Had this been my first visit to a best western hotel it would certainly have been my last. My advice, go to the premier inn.

"Comfortable overnight stay"
AliBristol4, 13 Juillet 2018

Stayed just one night in this historic hotel, now a Best Western. Friendly, helpful receptionist, easy check-in. Our room at the front, overlooking the main street, was fine for our overnight stay, the large bed was very comfortable. Even with the window open the road quietened down after the Friday night revellers had gone home and our sleep wasn't disturbed at all. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel but we noticed that there were many guest who did, a good sign. The only downside I would point out is that the more attention could have been given to the cleanliness of a couple of areas in the room and the bathroom. If we were to visit Tonbridge or the surrounding area again we wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

"Wedding weekend"
Natwee, 11 Juillet 2018

My husband and I stayed here with another couple as we were attending a wedding in the area. Our room was in the old part of the hotel and was very quirky it had everything we needed. The floor boards were creaky and uneven the bed felt like the head board end was was lower than the foot off the bed. The bathroom was compact but functional, it took a while to get the shower temperature right but not really that much of a issue. Breakfast was buffet style and of good quality. Only negative, and not the hotels fault we stayed when temperatures were in the high 20s and with the room being on the main high street we had to decide whether to have disturbed sleep due to the noise from the street or have the window closed and melt.. its true we are always moaning about the weather??. All in all if we were visiting the area again we would be more than happy to stay here again.

"Good and bad"
Debbie F, 23 Juin 2018

The hotel was very good regarding my request for a quiet room. It was let down by i/ reception staff. I appreciate it must be annoying when a guest asks you something that's obvious. However its not obvious to the guest, or we wouldn't ask it. ii/ The breakfast area. Too dark.

"Historic building, modest accommodation "
Richard W, 22 Juin 2018

Okay, so to some extent this hotel must be judged for what it is - a coach house that's hundreds of years old. It has a great location on the High Street where you'll find an array of restaurants and bars. It has a tight but perfectly functional car park, and my bed was pretty comfortable for a single. But that's it. The public areas are dark and unwelcoming. I went for breakfast on my first morning but it was too busy to find a seat and no member of staff came to see if they could help. The corridor in the annexe at the back along with it's horrible 60s style doors reminds you of a failing secondary modern school. Oh, and you have to close the doors with such a slam that you'll wake most of the corridor. The walls are thin - I learned a lot about various trades this week. The paint is peeling off the outside windowsill of my room. You have to hold the toilet seat up with one hand whilst performing your ablutions. And I returned from one ten-hour working day to an unserviced room. Lots of probably little gripes I know. But they build up.

"Nothing Impressive"
Jaxncrealtor, 19 Juin 2018

If you are looking for luxury this is not the place to stay. Beds were not comfortable and room was somewhat clean. The location is definitely the one big positive this place has going for it. The food and desserts were good but one of the servers had a nasty attitude and seemed inconvenienced by any request we made. I would not stay here again.

"As expected"
M9522NKpeterb, 09 Juin 2018

The hotel is well-located, and easy to reach by car or train. The check-in was welcoming. The room clean, and clearly properly serviced. The quality of the food was excellent. One expects a certain minimum standard from the Best Western brand and this stay was no exception.

"Pleasant"
Steve S, 06 Juin 2018

I stayed at the hotel for one night only due to engagement in the local area and went to reception to check in and was met by the receptionist by the name of Hayley and she was extremely helpful, explained local attractions and also arranged a taxi for that evening. The room is small but comfortable. I gave the hotel and extra star/point due to Hayley.

"Comfortable"

Room was clean and comfortable and good to stay in a traditional pub rather than modern tower, bit of a quirky trek to room which was very hot, double glazing worked incredibly well noise from other bars/clubs on a Saturday night and traffic on the high street were no bother at all, however that contributed to the room being very hot. A request for a fan was very speedily fulfilled and this worked well and surprisingly quiet. The water temperature from the shower was very temperamental, freezing, boiling and disappearing, had we been staying more than one night we would probably have got to grips with it. Had to go elsewhere to eat as food until 8.45, more or less the time we arrived, seems very early

"lovely hotel"
john u, 26 Mai 2018

stayed the one night, greeted by a lovely lady at reception..upgraded my room, very nice very large bed.good bathroom, and lovely breakfast.i joined there rewards program glad i did saved quite a lot of money and received some freebies.

"Basic"
Glasgow222, 25 Mai 2018

The best thing about this hotel is the location. It's position on the high street allows for easy access to the wider area. The train station is a five minute walk away and the town is well served by buses. Plenty of shops, restaurants and pubs though the hotel itself has a very pleasant bar area. The hotel itself is a lovely old building but our room was very dated, basic and sorry to say, not particularly clean. The staff were friendly and welcoming but sadly I could only recommend on location. If you are happy with a very spartan room you'll be fine, if you need your little luxuries, go elsewhere.

"Visit to Spa Railway"
Mandy Y, 13 Mai 2018

Disappointing stay in what looks like a nice character hotel from the outside. Internally the decor is bland, tired & in need of a makeover. Creaky floorboards, but not a problem and did give us a giggle but generally very disappointed with the hotel. Shower dribbled warm water, reception smelt very musty and quite off putting on arrival & unfortunately the breakfast was again just warm! Staff seemed miserable and we were not asked if we had enjoyed our stay or slept well, hence our views expressed here. Good points are the location and on site parking but not enough to make me stay again

"Best amongst the lot.."
AnuragNidhi, 13 Mai 2018

The hotel is in an old heritage building of sort. Ideally located on Main Street just next to Tonbridge castle and walking distance to almost everything... The front of the building is the heritage one with additional rooms in the back.. the floorboards creak when someone walks and could be annoying at times if you are on gr floor.. There is a decent restro-pub in the premise and they try different specials through the week... avoid the Indian though as it is pathetic..

"Lovely Old Character Building"
Standard13, 01 Mai 2018

I stayed for one night, whilst attending a function at Tonbridge School which is a short 5 minute walk away. Lots of lovely old beams, and this hotel has character. Much better than any modern hotel which are all the same. Bedroom was comfortable and I had a good nights sleep. Lovely dinner and a equally good breakfast the next morning. My only observation, is that I booked a table for dinner in the restaurant when I checked in during the afternoon. The Restaurant staff failed to check the diary, and thus had not prepared a table for me when I presented myself and my friends at the appropriate time. I then had to wait a few minutes whilst a table was hurriedly prepared in the corner of the bar. Not ideal but adequate. The starter and the Steak for the main course were both excellent.

"Shabby but not chic!"
markhoc2016, 30 Avril 2018

Rooms are comfortable and clean. What lets it down is exterior of so called "garden suite". This is a 70's style block of apartments overlooking the car park. Exterior need refurb and general area needs a tidy up and to be made more inviting. Area adjacent to reception is really untidy and low class

"Great place."
Dubhag, 18 Avril 2018

A great place to stay, have a meal or just a drink in the bar. It is a historical hotel, with what seemed genuine centuries'old beams - interesting. Had some good craic with the barman. Food was fine and tasty. Our room on the first floor in the Garden Flat was warm, comfy, cosy and quiet, with a fairly open outlook over a small car park and on to the near-bye lovely church.

"Comfy beds, good breakfasts, on site parking."
Rob C, 12 Avril 2018

Stayed 2 nights for work. Our room was at the back in the car park. Room was fine with 2 comfortable beds, a well furnished bathroom with a good selection of toiletries. Could have done with another bedside table rather than sharing just the one, and the tea bags on the well-supplied drinks tray tasted like they were a thousand years old. The breakfasts were made from good quality ingredients - particularly the bacon and sausage, and my colleague's poached eggs and salmon were a big hit too. Surprisingly, when we checked out no-one asked if we'd slept well / enjoyed our stay / if everything had been ok etc. Just give us your money and goodbye. All things considered we'd stay here again.

"Location and Comfort can't be beat!"
Tacy55, 10 Avril 2018

The Rose and Crown hotel is just across from Tonbridge Castle. It is a historic and picturesque hotel right on a main street. We were in the back building and both the room and the bathroom were very nice. The bathroom was modernized and the towels were large and thick and thirsty. Parking was on the premises. If I were returning to Tonbridge, this is where I would stay! We enjoyed hearing the bells from the church behind the hotel. It was soothing rather than "noisy".

"Excellent location"
Jean L, 01 Avril 2018

Lovely character hotel right in middle of Tonbridge. Staff helpful room very clean. Good value for money Only drawback didn't start breakfast till 8 and we needed an early start. Would recommend hotel and will definitely return.

"Lots of character"
MR19702602, 15 Mars 2018

Stayed here mid week for 1 night with business. Arrived late evening. Was greeted by a lovely lady on reception. Man from bar immediately asked if I'd like a drink. Check in was quick and easy Place is like a maze corridors everywhere very interesting building lots of character Breakfast was lovely and plentiful

"Good Location - Good Value"
DezzerG, 12 Mars 2018

We used the hotel as a B&B and chose it for its central location, noting a range of interesting restaurants nearby. Free, secure parking and free WiFi played a significant part of the selection process. It's an old building, and the creaking floorboards were considered amusing rather than annoying. Breakfast was excellent in terms of quality and quantity; I really enjoyed my salmon and poached eggs (rather than the customary full English). This breakfast really did set us up for the day ahead. The hotel doesn't have many amenities, but then we only wanted a B&B and, besides, you're only a stone's throw from the castle, shops and restaurants.

"Disappointing for Best Western which is often much better"
Michael W, 20 Février 2018

We checked in at 4.00 pm and confirmed that dinner was available that evening and that we did not need to book a table. When we arrived to eat at 7.45 pm we were told that the kitchen had sold all the food and had closed early so there were no meals available. Two of the three waiting staff at breakfast did not seem to speak. We asked for a quiet room and were given one. Overall, a good night's sleep but pretty poor service on the food front - evening and morning. Some staff were helpful, other were letting their colleagues down.

"Older hotel with plenty of charm"
wendyfD8308UM, 12 Février 2018

Plenty of charm in this older hotel. Our room was very well presented and the conversion was very sympathetic to the old layout, if some what a maze to get to the room. We were offered help with our case, as we only had one we declined. Should have taken up on the offer! Overall the stay was very pleasant and breakfast was brilliant.

"Splendid Stay!"
Stuart J, 01 Février 2018

Really good value. This is a hotel with character. All the staff I met were very polite and helpful. I had a superb three course dinner for £20. The service was excellent. Clean bedroom...hotel very warm....hot water....good car parking...hotel in centre of town. The hotel treat best western members very well. I will be back!

"Christmas Day lunch"
Earl1765, 20 Janvier 2018

We had a great Christmas Day Lunch for 7 family members. The food was well cooked, really fresh and tasty and the service great. The waitresses were friendly and efficient. The table looked lovely and really good quality crackers. The only annoying thing we're the party noise blowers. Not appropriate spoilt the atmosphere and I nearly ripped them out the mouth of the man on a table next to me who stuffed 3 in his mouth at once. We had 3 elderly relatives who just didn't enjoy the stupid noise these things make.

"Quaintness stretching from the past into the present...and nice"
Julia C, 04 Janvier 2018

We attended a wedding in Tonbridge about 5 summers ago and stayed here. We arrived about an hour before the wedding and had asked to be let in early so we could change. Not only were we let in, but we were given a major upgrade. The hotel did not then have elevators, though someone offered to carry our bags up to our floor. Also, as a wedding another reception was going on there until the wee hours of the night, well, we did not sleep too well. That was the only down side; July 2014

"A visit to relatives"
chrissieg2018, 04 Janvier 2018

This is in the centre of the town and was very convenient for visiting our relatives and for town amenities. The castle is only 2 minutes walk. The room was cosy but bed could have been bigger. We chose not to eat in the hotel as there are many cafes and a Wetherspoon pub close by for food.

"Relatively basic but nice hotel offering"
Stenvoid, 02 Janvier 2018

Stayed here on New Year's Eve. Good and friendly service throughout. Our room was very accessible from the car-park which was really helpful. The room was quite small and also perhaps too warm but otherwise couldn't really be faulted. Lovely service and food at breakfast.

"Looking like it needs an update"
Paulandkerry32, 17 Décembre 2017

Nice and central within the town, plenty of parking to the rear of the hotel, a small bar area with a limited amount of beer on tap, the Guiness comes out of a tin, and then the glass is put on a gadget to froth it up. A large restraunt although I didn't eat at the hotel. My room was small with a double bed and a small bathroom, There was a wiff of drains in the bathroom, The radiator wouldn't turn off, so the room was far to hot, As the room was on the main road, with the window open, the noise was unbearable. If I was to stay here again I would request a room at the rear of the property. The bedrooms and public areas need a freshen up, it's beginning to look very tired and worn.

"Second time around"
Derek B, 08 Décembre 2017

This was my second time at this hotel the room was adequate but on the road so traffic noise was an issue however due to the age of the property it is unlikely this can be solved. This room was definitely inferior to my previous room even though the previous room was in the extension

"Overlooked"
David W, 04 Décembre 2017

Stayed here before, but this review is really about the restaurant. Allthough firmly on the High Street for hundreds of years, this quirky old hotel is definitely overlook. The current chef turns out excellent meals at resonable prices but for some reason is overlooked by diners who seem to head to the nearby restaurants. Service is quick, food nicely presented, everyone enjoyed every dish, in very pleasant surroundings. What more can you want? My only small gripe is that a previous owner tried to modernise the interior, which I think is a mistake for an old coaching inn, but this does not detract from enjoying the meal. Do yourself a favour and test out this restaurant when next in town.

"Best place in Tonbridge!"
Nate L, 01 Décembre 2017

If you want a quaint, historic place to stay in Tonbridge, then the famous Rose and Crown is it! The front desk was very helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was fantastic. (Go for the full English.) The high street location can't be beat!

"Not a bad stay"
Angela O, 19 Novembre 2017

Stayed one night as meeting friends in Tonbridge. Quaint hotel and a pleasant welcome. Good secure parking area with barrier. It's not surprising that the hotel needs a little tlc ....it's old and must cost a lot for the upkeep. As for people mentioning uneven floors etc ...what do you expect! The only real downside for me was arriving on a damp day and no heating working in the room. A fan heater just doesn't do it and I certainly wouldn't leave it on all night as suggested by staff! Can't comment on the food or drink because I didn't partake but my husband didn't complain about his breakfast so I'm guessing it was ok.

"OK"
away-from-home-2250, 14 Novembre 2017

Rooms were clean and tidy. The place has plenty of charater. Staff seem as though they don't want to be there. Entrance to hotel was where smokers gather hence cigarette butts and spit on the floor and the smell of smoke wafting through the corridors detracted from the experience

"Shambolic Sunday Lunch"
Alan R, 12 Novembre 2017

We were booked in for a Sunday lunch, but it turned out - at 1:30 - that they were out of food for pretty much the entire menu. We were only told this after we'd ordered drinks and had spent about 15 minutes looking at the menu. All the staff were 15 year old children and despite it not being particularly busy the small amount of service we did get was spectacularly slow. Having our one round of drinks, finding out they didn't actually sell food in their restaurant and then obtaining and paying the bill took around forty minutes, and during each of the huge waits between anyone coming to the table the child-waiter was literally just wandering around the room looking confused. The whole thing was actually fairly funny, but if you're a fan of actually eating when you go out for lunch then it's not somewhere I'd recommend.

"Character building needs some tlc"
VernonPL678, 04 Novembre 2017

I have stayed here in the past, so I know what to expect! Having said that you hope to be surprised , maybe a refurb or a makeover! We had a nice room, in the older part of the hotel, recently redecorated, but every floor board creaked and with no double glazing vehicle noise from the car park was annoying at 5am. So much could be done to improve this hotel, even if it was only to make the bar and restaurant vibrant. Staff were very polite and courteous and the breakfast selection and quality is good.

"Clean, comfy and full of charm"
marywC1956SD, 02 Novembre 2017

A lovely old hotel. All rooms very clean, beds very comfortable. This is an old hotel, full of character, wonky floors and all that comes with age. There are some easy access rooms in the newer extension but for us the main hotel was exactly what we wanted. With out exception the staff were friendly and extremely helpful. Meals were very good as well with plenty of choice. We would not hesitate to return to this hotel. Thank you for a wonderful weekend!

"Very Good Hotel"
Dan W, 26 Octobre 2017

I stayed here last minute as needed somewhere to stay due to a family emergency. I didn't arrive until just after 1am where I was met by the porter who had kept my room available as I had called due to the 4 hour travel time I had just endured. I was able to grab a quick beer before bed ( only downside is £5+ for a beer I thought was expensive). Room was immaculately clean , spacious and a mixture of modern and old decor. Bathroom is fine a big bath and shower with complimentary shower gels , shampoo and even shower caps. Heated towel rail and numerous towels for you to use whilst staying. The bedroom is large as stated before with TV with freeview channels. Free Wifi in the room and a good selection of plug sockets so you are always able to charge phones/laptops etc. Something that a lot of hotels don't have that many of. The room has plenty of work space a main desk under the Tv and also a table and chair under the window . Kettle and hot drinks provided and biscuits replenished daily. The room also has various information on the local area and sights that are also a little further afield but easily accessible and for all ages. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a central location to tonbridge ( not to be mistaken for tunbridge wells). The only negative although it depends on the individual is that I think the food and drink is a bit on the pricey side but that's just personal opinion. Having said that the food and drink were very nice and had no complaints about the quality. The woman in reception Monika I think was very helpful and would always be asking if there was anything I wanted or if my stay was enjoyable. Would stay again.

"Creaky floorboards and uneven floors in corridors!"
sdsw12, 08 Octobre 2017

Full disclosure (as our American cousins would say) we didn't pay for our night's stay, but used Best Western Reward Points - this doesn't affect my review. Centrally located with onsite parking - 56 rooms and 43 spaces - at rear of building. The hotel is a maze and if you are 'wobbly on your pins' you might find the uneven flooring (it's an old building), many stairs up and down even on the same floor and long corridors an issue and might want to ask if they have ground floor rooms. Room was pleasantly decorated and clean (the dark wooden furniture could do with being refinished as worn looking), but due to the age of the building, the floorboards creak - in the room, from the corridor outside and from neighbouring rooms! Comfortable bed (hard mattress) and a good night's sleep. Functional en suite (has a shower over the bath, but the bath sides aren't too high, so not too difficult to step out of - I'm short and sometimes find it a bit daunting climbing over high bath sides when bath is wet after showering). Public areas and corridors are looking shabby and would benefit from redecoration. Monika on Reception was especially helpful, friendly and professional.

"Good hotel, friendly and helpful staff"
Dave_House, 06 Octobre 2017

Great hotel, a bit tired in places, but very clean, and great sfaff. The water can be hit and miss too with the preasure and the mix in the showers. Floors very squeaky too, But its a very old building. Rooms are clean and have everyhing you need, wifi good also.

"Overnight Stay "
Bruce T, 02 Octobre 2017

Good parking for the town's restaurant facilities which are numerous and offer a great choice, however the rooms are a little dated and suggest need bringing more up-to-date and contemporary especially the en- suite areas. Staff helpful and friendly, the restaurant & bar areas again could do with a makeover very dated and not current, could introduce some soft furnishings to help soften the general ambiance to make it more comfortable rather than a bar cum eating area.

"A friendly, traditional hotel"
Peltt, 25 Septembre 2017

We had an enjoyable two night stay at the Rose and Crown to visit some of the heritage sights around this part of Kent. Our room was off a first floor corridor above the car park. It was a reasonable sized room, in a quiet location, and a pleasant temperature. The bed was comfortable and nicely made up. The room was attractively decorated and furnished. The room had a generous stock of tea and coffee supplies provided. The bathroom looked very recently modernised and was in excellent condition. It was well stocked with toiletries and good quality towels. Breakfasts were very nice on both mornings, with a good range of hot and cold options available, all well presented, and ample portions. The service at the front desk and in the restaurant / bar was really friendly. The location of the hotel was very convenient and it was an attractive, traditional building.

"Couldn't ask for more"
Julie C, 22 Septembre 2017

Our son had his wedding reception at this lovely venue. The canapés (delicious) and drinks were promptly served when we arrived following the ceremony at nearby church. The three course meal superb and the evening buffet varied and plentiful. Staff were discrete but always nearby to ensure everything was perfect. DJ played a good variety of music suitable for the occasion. Highly recommend if you are thinking of a venue for a wedding reception. Would have given 5 star rating if there had been baby changing unit available.

"Pleasant old style inn in the town centre"
Dec105, 16 Septembre 2017

There's not a lot that would bring you to Tonbridge, Kent - it really is not a place for tourists. Nonetheless, if you need to be there, the Rose and Crown is a pretty decent place to spend a night or two. It's an old style pub, with rooms upstairs - would that have qualified as an Inn back in the day? Probably. And it's not bad. Front entrance is a large bar / dining area, with rooms up the old style staircase. Rooms are decent enough quality, with the usual mod cons and bathroom - although the shower is lethal, with a mind of its own (a feature common to all rooms, as I discovered over breakfast with other guests!). The hotel is right in the town centre, so very convenient for shopping, cafes etc. There is a car park around the back, though finding it is a minor adventure. Breakfast? What would you expect? The traditional English breakfast, obviously - and it is good.

"Wedding"
toyo52, 13 Septembre 2017

Stayed for a wedding. It was terrific. The bed was very comfortable. The food was terrific. Free wifi and the TV was awesome. Close to all the shops and walking distance to everything you need. Will stay again on my next visit.

"Right in the middle of town"
panda16465, 06 Septembre 2017

Excellent room in the wing out the back of the hotel. We had a twin room (but pushed the beds together). Room was very comfy and clean, tea and coffee making facilities and nice toiletries. Parking was a bit difficult as there's not a lot of room. Excellent wi-fi.

"Almost good"
eric h, 31 Août 2017

Not quite "very good" but don't be put off. you will have a perfectly comfortable stay. Like a lot of these old hotels there are some maintenance issues but nothing too serious. The best bit --the breakfast Not a buffet --served by waitresses and full of great ingredients The worst bit --finding the FREE car park

"Could do with a makeover "
LCB1963, 28 Août 2017

Fabulous period building, ??? interior design, who ever decided to paint the beautiful beams & woodwork cream (badly) needs shooting. Having said that, the beds were comfortable, didn't get much sleep, thanks to the squeaky floorboards & the person in the room above whom kept walking around all night. Beware of the shower, as it was difficult to regulate, apart from that, the room was clean and tidy. Not sure I would stay again

"Excellent Family Sunday Lunch"
71trevorc, 27 Août 2017

Held a family Sunday lunch in the function room. Lovely fresh food well presented and excellent service throughout. Couldn't fault any aspect of the lunch and overall an experience enjoyed by all present. Would certainly recommend for any similar function.

"Lovely old building and comfy room"
Sally G, 24 Août 2017

Stayed for one night whilst on business in Tonbridge. The location is great - right in the middle if the High Street. The building is fabulous if you like staying in historical places - it's not going to be your cup of tea if you want sleek and modern! Yes the floorboards squeak and yes the floors are uneven. But, my room was large, spotless and comfortable. It also had everything I needed - sockets in the right place for charging, tea and coffee making facilities, complimentary bottled water (glass not plastic) and a good shower. I ate in the restaurant and there were plenty of other lone business diners, so it didn't feel odd despite it being an open bar and restaurant for non-residents. Had a lovely cod dish from the specials menu. Staff were super friendly. I would stay again without hesitation.

"Pleasant place to stay in Tonbridge"
YaptonBoy, 24 Août 2017

I stayed in Tonbridge because it fitted my travel arrangements and had never been there before. The Rose & Crown was reasonably-priced, comfortable and friendly. If I ever go to Tonbridge again, I will stay at the Rose & Crown again. Pleasant breakfast with kippers on the menu ...not to everybody's taste, but I like them and am always pleased when a hotel takes the trouble to offer them. My only gripe was that the fire doors in my part of the hotel were not kept closed by the hotel's staff after being, I assume, left open by my fellow guests.

"Comfortable bed and quiet night's sleep"
Flyingmullion, 14 Août 2017

We booked in order to attend a local function and asked for a room in a quiet location. Our room was away from the High Street and was indeed quiet. The hotel is of its age which is reflected in the general worn appearance inside. Our room was adequate and rather small as is the case with these older properties. We had a good sleep, the en-suite which appears to be reasonable new has a shower over the bath, the bath is not appropriate for standing in as the base is narrow and curved, not flat; so you have to ensure your are well balanced and that the bath is not slippery with soap. We found £110 for one night with an extra £10 per head for a cooked breakfast rather steep. We breakfasted elsewhere. Wifi in the rooms and we had no problems with it. Hotel ok for one night, but would not wish to stay again at that price.

"Probably the best hotel in Tonbridge"
williamcY4356GC, 08 Août 2017

We always stay here- at least once a year , when we visit relatives. It's everything an inn should be, old and creaky, and full of history. The staff are invariably helpful, friendly and always ready to listen. Oh and the food is pretty good too AND they do gluten free toast for my husband!!!! Beds are comfortable, rooms are clean and well provided with refreshments and nice soft towels . My husband always goes into raptures when we stay , because he remembers visiting as a small boy, with his dad, when downstairs were small , dark brown rooms. Now it's much brighter and lighter. A proper English inn!!

"War and Peace show at hop farm"
Petra T, 26 Juillet 2017

Hotel Very Poor standard ,dirty ,bed was nicely made though.Very expensive for 2nights sleep, creaky floor boards ,very noisy .staff obliging .Very disappointed.so dirty ,stairs looked like they had never seen a hoover.we chose to eat breakfast at the Humphrey bean,a Weatherspoons, which was very clean and lovely breakfast. It was extra for breakfast at the hotel. We think £216 for two adult two children for room only,at the standard it is,is absolutely atrocious.

"Queen Victoria stayed here."
T.t. B, 26 Juillet 2017

Very lovely hotel with old style atmosphere. Rooms are on the small side but well maintained. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very nice breakfast buffet. Good bar and nice wine list. Comfy restaurant

"Nice old hotel & great staff"
keke975, 25 Juillet 2017

We stayed at the Rose & Crown for 4 nights on a bed & breakfast basis last week and enjoyed our stay. Our room was one of the oldest, with timber beams, sloping floor and not a straight wall to be seen, wonderfully period. Despite this it was very well equipped and fitted with a good sized en-suite with a good shower over the bath which worked very well. Our room was clean and tended to very professionally. The staff were very welcoming and attentive throughout our stay, special thanks to Sue, Ann, Monica and everyone else with whom we met. Breakfast was really good, with plenty of chioce other than the lovely 'Full English', we did partake of an evening meal once, preferring to eat out other nights, but the hotel fare was very enjoyable and appriciated by us both. Could not fault the service at all. Thanks to everyone.

"Don't waste your money."
Sam M, 23 Juillet 2017

Stayed here to test it out as we are getting married near to this hotel. I'm glad we did - I would have been disappointed to stay here on my wedding night. The hotel itself and the rooms are outdated, in need of an upgrade. The carpets were worn with tears and the duvet had holes in. The room only had one small window so was hot, the curtains were unhooked on both sides. The bathroom was dirty with limescale and stains in several places, and even had hairs in the bath and windowsill (we know by colour that these were not ours). We stayed as b&b, and spent no more than 10 minutes at breakfast. Breakfast service hadn't even been going for an hour and the 'buffet' was near empty, lukewarm and most items rubber in texture. The eggs were so disgusting I even heard the staff making comments about how bad they looked. We found the service from the staff in general quite lacking, nobody really acknowledged you. I've worked in a hotel myself and know that service with a smile at the very least is needed. Really disappointed - wedding parties I would think twice about this place to stay for your big day.

"Mixed thoughts...."
hillmanminx123, 09 Juillet 2017

Lets start with the good - lovely character building, great location, helpful staff, rooms looked clean and well kept, toiletries provided, wifi was free and seemed to work fine, 24 hour reception, nice to have proper sized mugs and hot chocolate sachets. On to the bad - the room was like an oven - far too hot, no air con or fan, noisy doors and floors meaning you wake up constantly when others are moving around, bed was really soft and sagged in the middle, meaning you both ended up in the middle or disturbing each other every time you moved, staff took far too long to answer the phone on both occassions. Only given one glass in the room, no safe provided, no lift available, no "exit" signage when trying to find your way back from your room to reception/bar area. Drinks were more expensive than other local bars. We didn't eat there so no idea about food. Only one key provided, but since 24 hour reception this shouldn't be a problem. Stairs everywhere, so not good if you have difficulty walking/ disabled or have heavy bags. Would I stay there again? Not sure. If we want to be in central Tonbridge it's completely perfect, but at £85 for room only (original booking was more via TripAdvisor) I thought it was too expensive because I hardly slept in with that heat/bed/noise situation. Glad we'd asked for a quiet room, since being on the road side would've been much worse I reckon. Our room had total privacy which was nice (room 105).

"Legionella disaster"
Peter C, 23 Juin 2017

Taps were filthy and shower covered in scale, cold water was constantly tepid. Ideal breeding ground for bacteria especially Legionella. Yes, I work in the legionella compliance field. Room was to warm noise from main road meant couldn't leave windows open. Next one not the hotels fault but at 4 in the morning council water the hanging baskets with noisy diesel engine. With better soundproofing and proper ventilation this would not be a problem. Broken furniture and secondary glazing was fitted incorrectly. Very tired hotel. As stated by others, noisy floors and doors. Not worth the £80.

"Consistent welcome and value"
AlanShropshire_12, 10 Juin 2017

Another short stay at a hotel I use about 3 times a year. As usual we were welcomed and provided with a comfortable room. Comfy bed, big fluffy towels and adequate space. Good biscuits! The car parking here is a big plus - right in the centre of town. The shower is in the bath and relies on the same taps as the bath which means there aren't thermostatic valves to control the temperature of the water, which can make a shower a bit too exciting. It's my only quibble with a hotel providing consistently good value.

"full of character"
Nicholas B, 09 Juin 2017

I stay here on a regular basis because my company is local, but if in the area i would choose to stay here anyway. The rooms are generally very clean, tidy and spacious. The staff are always attentive and friendly. The only 'downside' is that as an old coaching inn the floors have a tendancy to creak, and the water pressure can be variable, but that can add to the character of the hotel.

"Overall good"
Ferino, 06 Juin 2017

Stayed here on business and noted other reviewers comments about the issues with the main hotel. When I booked I asked for the annexe which we got. The hallway areas are tired but the room was pretty good. The bathroom was modern and no issues. The shower was adequate, certainly not just a trickle as another reviewer mentioned. Our room was also very quiet. Free parking is a bonus. Good location in the town centre and we would stay here again.

"We will not be visiting this hotel again"

This was not Value For Money! The hotel is tatty and tired. The floor boards creek every time anyone moves in a room. The shower was nothing more than a trickle and the room was boiling hot with no way of keeping the window open for ventilation. Save yourself from this poor hotel and book somewhere else. The worst hotel I've stayed in for 15 years.

"Good for overnight stay."
MiddlesexEm, 08 Mai 2017

Good location with parking. Walking distance of numerous restaurants and supermarkets? Efficient and helpfull staff. Spotlessly clean. Good room, recently refutbished. Very hard beds. Slightly overpriced. Did not use restaurant

"Tonbridge Best Western"
susie164, 05 Mai 2017

a very friendly welcome and a surprise goody bag. The room was clean and tidy but the floor boards were so noisy and I hope there was not a bedroom below mine, I could not alter the heating so had the window fully open all night

"Good location"
David R, 27 Avril 2017

Arrived a bit late for our weeks stay But staff was still waiting with our evening meal.a old pub with its creaks and noises but warm and welcome feel. Lots to do around the town a good central point for Hever castle and Windsor castle. Food excellent.rooms small but bed great. Drinks a little dear but good measures.car spaces limited.ring direct for good prices.

"Great location, bar and restaurant all good. ."
dave b, 23 Avril 2017

Stayed overnight recently, all good. . Room not the biggest nor best design but only slept in it and was up and away early after breakfast. . . Bar was decent in the evening and breakfast very good, just what was needed. . . In a nice part of town, just 200y from the castle and park .. .

"Terrible service"
BellaPortsmouth, 23 Avril 2017

On arrival the bar tender was tutting at customers and audibly annoyed at people paying with cards. I queued for 30 mins to check in and despite the bar being open until midnight they stopped serving before midnight and refused to serve anyone who had been waiting for 20 minutes. The breakfast (with the exception of the sausages and coffee) was good but sadly again the service was really poor.

"Average Venue, nothing special."
Derek264, 16 Avril 2017

We chose the Rose and Crown, as it was within striking distance of Chartwell House. The room ( 101 ! ) was clean and tidy, with decent coffee-making facilities. The bathroom was adequate, but the lighting very poor. The shaving light was not working. I did not report this, so I'm sure it would have been fixed. Room 101 was close to the fire exit, which was open all the time, to my surprise. This was ideal for the pigeons, who we had to shoo away from the inner corridor and, more importantly, for potential thieves. The hotel is 16th Century, so don't be surprised by the creaking floorboards. Staff were polite and courteous . The breakfast was adequate, of reasonable quality. Disappointed that the staff merely served the breakfast and left us to it. No offers of extra tea or toast. The Rose and Crown is in the centre of Tonbridge, so very convenient. There is free parking, at the rear. The parking, whilst we were there, was a bit of a squeeze, due to the narrow parking spaces and large vehicles/vans. If I visited the area again, I would choose another hotel/ guest house. We were a little disappointed, as it wasn't as good as one of the Best Western Hotels, in York.

"Visit to Tonbridge"
Carlton C, 15 Avril 2017

stayed at this hotel to meet some friends, staff very helpful, rooms were clean and breakfast was very good, hotel location is excellent. Beds were very comfortable and overall value of the room was very good too.

"Excellent fish and chips"
Berty V, 05 Avril 2017

Visited for a meal before the theatre. We were in a hurry and the staff were under pressure due to illness. Nevertheless the Fish and chips arrived promptly and was delicious. Good tartare sauce and great chips. Staff very friendly and attentive.

"Clean and welcoming."
Susan R, 02 Avril 2017

Receptionist very polite and friendly. Lovely room in the annex. It was a bit difficult to find the door leading to the rooms though as no signs. Plenty of tea, coffee and hot choc. Also plenty of shower gel etc. Comfy bed and clean room. I wasn't keen on the breakfast as the bacon was like cardboard and hard tasteless scrambled egg which let it down. Otherwise good selection on the plate and my husband loved it.

"Wildy average with above average staff"
James N, 23 Mars 2017

This hotel is ok. Not great, not awful. It's a well old building so the wonky floors and odd room numbering make sense. The rooms are average, not bad. The food is pretty good, and the specials are decent. There is one saving grace for this hotel that has caused me to give 4 stars instead of 2 or 3. The staff. What a bunch of geezers, there's the proper clever one who has read loads of books (more than 3, and ones without pictures!) and can talk about things I've never even heard of like wars and old buildings and that. Fantastic taste in shoes and coats made of fancy material too. there's the blonde one who is chatty and the picture of professionalism whilst working, but giggly and talkative once her shift is over, sometimes to the point of annoyance if im being honest. There's some young ones too, but i didnt talk to them much because I dont known about young people interests like rubix cubes and pokemons and jagerbombs and sweets and that. Drinks are on the dear side but served with sincerity and aplomb. Gonna have my dinner now. The pork loin sounds good.

"Comfortable hotel with helpful staff"
JWLL22, 18 Mars 2017

Over night for work, I had a room in the main hotel overlooking the main street. Dinner was very good in quality and value and the lady serving was so helpful and made me feel very welcome, nothing too much bother

"Great Hotel with brilliant staff"
Steveshaw101, 14 Mars 2017

I have stayed here several times now, and have tried various rooms, in the older part of the hotel and the newer annexe. I have always been greeted warmly by the reception staff (Sue), and shown to my room which vary in size from small and cosy, to huge and comfortable. The rooms have recently been refurbished to a high standard, and have large TVs, tea making facilities, with plenty of biscuits. The bathrooms vary a little in quality and layout, but have plenty of hot water and ample, good quality toiletries. The breakfast is varied and very generous, with a cooked English breakfast option. There is free car parking and a great bar for that "compulsory" late night drink.

"Good Enough"
35Russell, 26 Novembre 2016

Friendly staff, parking around back is a little tight and limited. Bed fine, internet connection ok. Rooms are a little tired, but overall for one night it was ok. Bar looked good although I didn't use it.

"value for money"
895carmelb, 22 Novembre 2016

I was anxious after reading some poor reviews but I needn't have been. I would definately go back and have recommended the hotel to others. extremly comfy bed and spacious room, excellent value for price paid

"Would not stay again unless improvements made"
sarahys, 20 Novembre 2016

Lovely character historic building and bed was comfy and clean The whole hotel is in real need of refurbishment. Breakfast was poor with a sign for "croissants" but none were available. Coffee was stewed and undrinkable. The attitude of one staff member made me feel very uncomfortable and I will be writing separately to Best Western about this.

"Excellent again "
potterjja12, 02 Novembre 2016

Second visit this year. Amazing room with kingside bed and huge bathroom. Spotlessly clean. Cannot fault this hotel . Reception staff friendly and helpful. We booked on booking . Com and could only get a room with two single beds. When we got to the hotel we asked if there were any doubles. They immediately upgraded us to this amazing room with no extra charge. Will definitely be back

"Better than expected!"
KImberly M, 25 Octobre 2016

Old building and therefore kind of quaint but other than an issue with the headboard it was a nice room with much more character than e.g. a Travelodge; and nice hospitality basket. And very nice staff. Room needed dusting but bathroom was v clean. Older and different. But not a bad place to stay. TV worked fine, lots of channels, heating controls were a bit dodgey, had to sleep with windows open so as not to overheat. Not often you get a physical key with a hotel these days. I didn't eat there, so can't comment on that.

"Tonbridge break"
Graham M, 23 Octobre 2016

I am currently in Tonbridge attending a family wedding and this hotel was on the suggested accommodation list. It is a very quirky quintessentially English hotel and very well run. The rooms are very clean and well appointed with big beds and good sized ensuite abounding. I have a room overlooking the rear which is really quiet and dark allowing for a great sleep. Some small issues with housekeeping initially but all easily sorted. Thoroughly recommend this great hotel??

"Take action now!"
Chris H, 21 Octobre 2016

Poor access, poor staff, poor room, poor water pressure, but good breakfast. I did not want to listen to staff moaning all the time, were rude and unhelpful not giving basic information. I think the owners need to seriously look at the offer, investment and then get it sorted if they want to stay in business.

"Interesting building deserves better."
A_decent_bloke, 12 Octobre 2016

I stayed in a room in the annex at the back of the hotel. Much quieter than rooms overlooking the high street but walk across the car park to a 1970's style extension with fairly tatty communal areas. There was paint on the windows in the communal areas with torn wall paper and damaged handrails on the stairs. The room was much better than the communal area would suggest with a decent shower, TV and sensibly sized desk that let me do work in the evening. The room was only single glazed and was chilly in October. I can imagine in really cold weather the single glazing makes the rooms pretty cold. I had an awful experience getting their wifi to work. I had to wait 40 minutes before an outsourced call center picked up my call and then asked me to reconfigure my computer before re booting the wifi access point, Awfull customer experience I'm afraid, when the wifi was working it was certainly faster than many hotels I have been in. Breakfast was an odd experience, there does seem to be some issues with staff morale and they were not afraid to tell customers about problems behind the scenes and friction between staff members. I know hotel staff are often underpaid and work difficult hours but as a customer I don't want to hear about your problems with other customers and your co workers first thing in the morning. Keep that for the staff break room please. All in all it is lovely historical building that deserves some attention and investment. Oh yes , don't bring a big car into the car park unless you are very good at parking.

"They're not even trying."
David C, 09 Octobre 2016

This hotel would have been disappointing at half the price. At £90 it was positively rubbish. We stayed here for one night because we had a wedding nearby and everyone else had booked it too. Breakfast is £10 per person extra. The parking is tight and certainly not plentiful enough when they're fully booked. The room was dirty in quite a few places and in disrepair in a lot of other places. There were many rooms free when we booked and not one of them had a double bed; the one we were given had two singles which when pushed together weren't even the same height! The shower, when it finally decided to spit out some hot water wouldn't stay in one place, tilting down towards the wall behind so neither of us could be bothered to shower. Finally, during the night, the rickety and poorly constructed bathroom shelf decided the free shampoos were just too much for it to handle and threw them loudly onto the floor via the metal bin, waking me in the process. All of this was told to the receptionist in the morning who I can't say was particularly bothered by the news. I can't recommend this place at all.

""Short of staff""
maleagle, 03 Octobre 2016

Having booked 5 rooms here for a nearby work function we were disappointed overall with the lack of professionalism you would normally expect from a hotel of this size. There appeared to be a lack of co-operation amongst the staff too. On arrival our room reeked of tobacco, despite it being a non-smoking room (hotel) and the windows were all closed so obviously there was no fresh air circulating within. The bar area was frequently unattended as the bar steward was needed to assist in other areas of the hotel. On arrival at breakfast we were informed by the one solitary lady on duty that other staff had failed to arrive for work, she was the only one on duty and we basically had to fend for ourselves. There was no hot tea or coffee available and a shortage of hot food available.

"Awful at the Rose & Crown"
Austen C, 20 Septembre 2016

If you want to spend too much on a poor quality room. Have staff be rude to you. Don't want a working bedside light or a TV And then find other guests have paid £20 less for the same deal Then the Rose & Crown, Tonbridge is the place for you. Good luck

"Just OK"
Michael W, 19 Septembre 2016

Sorry to say, this hotel just lacks that professional leading the hard wording troops. The staff are great, but all under 25. The comments I read sadly would keep me from ever bringing my wife to your hotel due to the extra touch and vision of an experienced manager. This serves in my opinion as a good Business stop over, therefore I am happy it exists in my favourite group. . . Just saying.

"Class of 1966 School Reunion"
JohnLynn947, 18 Septembre 2016

Ideal location in the town for group reunions. Staff very helpful and friendly, rooms as expected if stopping in a dated historical building, meals were excellent and well presented, sufficient selection of wines to choose from for the occasion.

"Tonbridge - my birthplace."
Lesley C, 16 Septembre 2016

Having been born and bred in Tonbridge every now and then I like to return and go over old ground. For the first 30 years of my life I had never stepped foot in the Rose & Crown. It then seemed quite posh and upmarket. The following 30 years I have stayed here a few times and thoroughly enjoyed the nostalgic experience. This visit I must say was very disappointing. I can forgive it the creaking floor boards and musty smell, but lots of the real character has been stripped from it. It now looks so bland - beige beams, bare and cold. Our room in the annexe/garden area was very tired and in need of decoration, but worse than that it was grubby with balls of hair in the bathroom. The car park is a bit snug and unfortunately the 2 disabled bays were usually occupied by the staff. Having said this the staff were friendly and we had a good cooked breakfast. The location is perfect for strolling around Tonbridge. The beautiful castle is opposite, with the river Medway. There is so much history here. Also ideally located for restaurants. I will return to Tonbridge, but might give the Rose & Crown a miss next time.

"Dated... In need of a makeover "
Lazy_Kano, 13 Septembre 2016

Basic, small room. Certainly has character, clean but quite dated. Room extremely hot and unable to turn off towel rail radiator (reception told me it was on 24/7 like it or not!! ). OK for a work trip for one person for a couple of nights, but would not recommend for a couple / family.

"Nice enough staff, ok accommodation."
Jamie F, 10 Septembre 2016

Stayed here a night in August. Was in the main building and it was relatively a quiet night. Its an old building with creaky floorboards and appears to have a bit of a slant to it. Bed was comfortable. Shower was poor. Get rid of the baths and out decent showers in ;-).

"Friends 40th anniversa"
Mark F, 10 Septembre 2016

Weekend stay in Tonbridge to visit friends celebrating 40 years together. Booked into the rose and crown having read mixed reviews. Pleasantly surprised as good parking facilities and warm welcome. Yes it's an old building and in need of some tlc but room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Only the shower lived up to previous reviews, couldn't really call it a shower More of a dribble! But great value for money as a budget hotel

"just an over night stop"
688groovy, 30 Août 2016

My daughter and I needed a bed to stay over night. Very helpful receptionist, Chilled some drinks for the next day ( was one of the hottest weeks of the year!!) and was smiley and cheerful ( not often seen in the UK!!) Room was in the annex. It was clean, with 2 comfy beds that had lovely white linen, and a lovely clean bathroom with a lovely shower. We didn't have the breakfast so I am unable to make any comment. We had 2 small issues. The heavy curtains were excellent for blacking out the light but also meant no air could circulate on a hot evening!! The Bells!!!!!! as lovely as it is that a town still has a church that tolls every 1/4 hour, all through the night, when your room only has single glazing and we HAD to have a window open....meant restful sleep was not had! not the hotels fault, but you have been warned.

"Shocking!"
shameless2012, 29 Août 2016

Overpriced, dirty rooms, smells throughout, on entering 1st room to find dried urine and pubic hair all round toilet area, dust throughout, pungent smell etc. Told reception and asked for him to come and have a look reply was "i dont have to look i believe you, im not suprised, here try this room its our last one" clearly sounded like he was used to complaints. 2nd room was better but still musty smell throughout, black scum on shower head and room and corridor in that area was like a sauna, was not even asked after if everything was now ok, no feedback to say yes we have checked room and we apologise for trying to charge you nearly £200 to stay in there for 2 nights, dont stay here you will be dissapointed

"Unremarkable hotel"
Jo P, 22 Août 2016

Very nice staff (except perhaps the female member of staff talking loudly at breakfast time about her hospital experience. Could have done without that!) The room was clean but just nothing special with a tiny TV and very small bathroom. Breakfast (full english) was disappointing with poor ingredients, and over cooked fried egg. We looked at having the continental breakfast until we saw a plate very tired cold cuts on, that were not chilled and the 'selection of continental cheeses' turned out to be small prepacked single portion cheeses, with only two types. No rolls or fresh bread on offer. I suppose we would have had to order toast to go with that.

"One nighter"
gymbob15, 22 Août 2016

Comfy, quiet and clean room in the back extension. Well equipped. Smashing breakfast and friendly helpful staff. Only fault was Booking.com who failed to provide the hotel with correct booking details. Hotel sorted it without any fuss. Very much enjoyed the stay after a busy family wedding!

"Our return to the Rose and Crown"
fiveofus0_5, 22 Août 2016

Having stayed in this hotel earlier in the year and having some issues with WIFI at the time, this was a follow visit thanks to Best Westerns Customer support. The review is purely based on what we found this time around and to be honest, we couldn't fault the hotel, just remember this is a 16th century building, it creaks and groans so don't expect all shiny and new !! Room was very clean with a comfy bed and the service in the bar/restaurant was spot on. Great location to go for a wander up and down the high street and use as a base, and we'll definitely be returning again, well done for the improvements in WIFI also, certainly no issues this time around. Thanks.

"Nice Stay"
The M, 12 Août 2016

Place looked a bit run down but room very clean, tidy and comfortable. Has been recently renovated. Friendly reception. Car parking good. Only intrusion was the church bells across the way. Went on and on and on.

"Character and convenient location"
72geraldine, 12 Août 2016

This is a very charming building-an historic Georgian coaching Inn. The downside of the character is rather stuffy rooms and dodgy plumbing. This is not the place for the devotee of power shower. The location is at the heart of the picturesque town of Tonbridge. Links to London, South coast and channel ports are excellent and the town itself has some attractive restaurants and historic features such as the mediaeval castle and timber framed buildings. West Kent is an area of outstanding natural beauty with historic site such as Hever Castle to hand.

"Mmmm... it ended a bit disappointing"
mi5spyman, 11 Août 2016

At First it looked quaint, an Olde English coach house in an Olde English town. The welcome was great, but then I went to find my room. through the bar, up a short flight of stairs, turn right, up some more stairs and through the door. Immediately down 4 stairs and turn left through the door, along the corridor and then turn left at the end up 2 stairs. Through another door and then immediately down 4 stairs, turn left and the room is at the end. It's a good job I won my Duke Of Edinburgh navigation award... Then there's the room, a bit small. the smallest flat screen TV on the wall I've ever seen and right at the front of the hotel so very, very noisy. OK so it was just for one night and I'd been travelling for over 6 hours and was ferschnickered so how about a beer and some food. After negotiating the labyrinth back to the bar and restaurant I ordered a beer (OK) and asked to see the menu. The you man who served me was enthusiastic about the menu which had 6 items on it. Long story short, the home made Pate wasn't and the Chicken Caesar Salad - weel I've never seen so much cucumber on a Ceaser salad, the lettuce was Iceberg not romaine, red onions galore and icy cold chicken. Basically, it was my own fault. There are many good places to eat a short walk from the hotel. The breakfast next morning however, was very good. In short, OK for one night, ask for a room at the rear of the hotel, eat out... The people are great and willing to please but the facilities just don't match the expectations of a Best Western Hotel - though I have stayed in worse !!!

"Absolutely disgusting!!"
Georgia M, 03 Août 2016

I stayed at this hotel with my partner, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the facility, it's the staff that are the problem. From the moment we arrived the lady behind the reception (apparently the front of house manager) Annette was extremely rude, I feel the only reason for this was that my partner was wearing a tracksuit as we had travelled that day. After our stay I received an email from Annette stating that I was going to be charged £150 for smoking weed (her words) she stated that as a goodwill gesture there was already a reduction in the fine and I would be charged £50. Obviously incredibly shocked at the accusation I rang the hotel immediately and spoke to Annette she would not listen to what I had to say, she told me she was the manager when I asked to speak to the manager, she gave me a fake name and email address for the owner, she hung up on me 4/5 times before I managed to get this fake information out of her. When taking to Annette I asked her what proof she had that we were smoking an illegal substance in the room to which she replied "it smelt" I asked her if we were smoking why did the alarm in the room not sound to which she had no reply. I have been told by a few members of staff, Sue, Julie and Annette that there is no one at the hotel that can deal with this, I have been hung up on a total of 24 times! I have not taken this lightly and I will not be dropping it. I am appalled by how we have been treated. Yes we both smoke but we DO NOT smoke drugs and DID NOT smoke in the room at all!!!!!!!!!

"leaky Roof"
Siobhanywoody, 02 Août 2016

The hotel is ok for a few nights , however had the following issues; - no pressure in the shower ( couldn't wash my hair ) it took ages to wash my body. - I could not close the window, and could hear staff downstairs , from 5am shouting and pushing trolleys around till 9am. - stained bedsheets - water stains on ceiling and walls. - it rained on the last night and our ceiling was dripping with water(constant dripping) this happened in 2 areas in the room. I called reception and they were very apologetic , however had no other rooms to transfer us. I asked for a refund the following day when checking out and the receptionist was reluctant to give me one, after listing all the issues, she refunded £30. I really don't think they will do anything to the ceiling in room 6, as it looks like the ceiling has been leaking for a while due to water-stains on the wallpaper and ceiling. Very expensive breakfast £10 for full English. We went to spoons down the road for a £4.00 breakfast.

"Good Value"
Anne O, 02 Août 2016

Enjoyed a night's stay here. Hotel is well situated in the town and excellent value for money. Clean with friendly staff. It's not a modern hotel but full of history and charm. Food was very good. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to others.

"Not bad at all"
DavidH_86_sys, 01 Août 2016

Staff were excellent, very polite and accommodating. Room was clean, wifi was decent and overall very comfortable. Food at the restaurant was "OK", but certainly not bad. Room and surrounding area was quiet.

"Home from Home"
garyparker231, 01 Août 2016

I have spent many nights here from October through to January, have worked from the hotel and have used this place as a stop gap for my travels. The staff are always pleasant, the rooms are very homely and in all the time I stayed we only ever had one issue and that was when we ended up above a Xmas party which was happening downstairs. It was my fault and I should have moved however the management and staff were always friendly. Great location, parking is easy and the bar is traditional.

"Fantastic staff, comfy bed, well worth the £78!"
Melissa S, 30 Juillet 2016

The staff were fantastic to us, allowing us to leave our bag both before we could check in and after we checked out. They were efficient and all friendly and helpful to us. The room was typical for a budget hotel, the bed was soft with a huge comfy duvet, loads of pillows and made you sink in and not want to get up. The room was a bit warm because we didn't like to leave the swing-out windows open overnight as we were facing the car park. The room was extra quiet, we hardly heard anyone moving around the entire time we were there. The bathroom was nice and open with a huge mirror and good lighting. The shower (with a tub) didn't have the greatest pressure but was quick to get hot and was still much better then many other hotels we've stayed in! The hallway did smell a bit old but as soon as you stepped into the room it was nice and fresh so definitely not something to deter you! Location is fantastic, you're right on the high street, a stones throw from the castle and with amazing food all around you. The rooms feel super safe which is a huge priority to me. For a budget hotel I was happy and wouldn't think twice about staying there again in the future! We didn't try the food because we had a million things to do and snacked for most of the trip but walking past it all looked good and had we have stayed longer definitely would have!

"Rose and crown"
Sam N, 30 Juillet 2016

Welcoming staff and helpful. Nice room and reasonably price. We only stay for one night but would recommend it for someone not wishing to pay the £95 per night we were quoted by Premier inn. We had a wedding so barely stayed in the hotel but would use it again if in the area.

"Disappointing return."
Ian M, 26 Juillet 2016

Getting this out of the way, I used to be chef here in the 1970's, when this hotel used to rock. The changes that have happen over the last 40 years were done in the main very well. They have made the bar bigger, Shame there are not the customers to enjoy it. I only ha breakfast on the 2 days I stayed there. Both days it was very nice and I got my fried bread which no full English should be without. On the Sunday breakfast was a sort of country house buffet. No form of air con was there, "slept" with the windows open, Didn't help. The bathroom was the coolest place there. The sink tap was plumbed in back to front, the hot was cold etc. I enjoyed my time in Tonbridge returning to the scene of my youth, just a shame the hotel didn't live up to my memories.

"Cold shower"
Mrs K R, 17 Juillet 2016

Great location, but not really great anything else. Cold shower in the morning due to a pump failure, apparently. Staff offered us a £5 refund on the £100-plus price of the room until we protested. Pretty abrupt service at breakfast "What do you want?" asked the waitress - we had no idea, as there was no menu on the table.

"Disappointed "
Robert B, 13 Juillet 2016

I stayed recently but was a bit disappointed with the Hotel, the room was tiny and quite hot! I agree with some earlier comments saying it could benefit from a refurbishment. I slept with the window open to cool the room, at least it wasn't very noisy except for the odd idiot with a loud exhaust. The evening meal was acceptable but hardly thrilled and the breakfast was ok. The car park is handy being at the back of the hotel giving decent access for luggage. There is no lift so if you have difficulty with stairs this could be an issue!

"Ironic name "best western""
Ben J, 09 Juillet 2016

Hotel was poor. Stayed 2 nights. Operating on about 5 hours sleep in total. Room was like a sauna for both nights. Floor board Creeked if you applied the tiniest bit of pressure. Water pressure for toilet, shower and taps was basically non existant. Hotel staff were ok, only asked a couple of things from them which was done. Refurb needed

"July 2016 visit to Tonbridge"
Brian M, 09 Juillet 2016

Very old building at the front and convenient for access to the town and transport links. The hotel has modernised rooms, I stayed in a front single room and was comfortable. More modern accommodation at the rear is available. Very friendly staff.

"Looks can be deceptive"
Kimclay1, 07 Juillet 2016

From website hotel looks like old inn however most rooms are not in main building but at the back. Rooms are dark and dingy smell of damp with views of a brick wall and weeds. Staff completely indifferent food very poor quality ingredients if I had booked for 2 nights I would have found somewhere else to stay for the 2nd night. Intend to make formal complaint to customer services as what you see is definitely not what you get!!!

"Would benefit from a major refurbish"
Rusty B, 03 Juillet 2016

I stayed 2 nights on business. The staff were friendly and I do generally prefer to stay in less 'corporate' settings where possible, and this usually means some compromise on room size. However, the room was very tired, badly in need of redecoration. The bathroom was acceptable but little niggles like toilet not flushing easily, taking ages to refill cistern (which was very noisy) and shower leaking all over the floor would have annoyed if i'd been staying for any longer. The bed was very small single and not particularly comfortable. The breakfast was very disappointing - burnt toast, food lukewarm and coffee very watery and tasteless. However, on the plus side, the lounge/bar had a nice atmosphere and was a pleasant place to relax in the evening.

"Old world charm"
Ian P, 02 Juillet 2016

We stayed here for seven nights. we had a double room, which was clean and comfortable, complete with creaking floor. How marvellous. This is what I love about old hotel buildings. If you want perfectly level floors and even walls, book a plastic hotel elsewhere. If you want Character, then this is the place for you. Excellent staff who could not do enough for us. Good value for money, evening menu. If you love visiting properties and gardens, there are a cozen or more within 15 miles.

"Very average"
Gayle M, 29 Juin 2016

Me and my husband spent one night here and I wouldn't wanted to have stayed any longer. It's a pretty shabby hotel. The room was clean but the net curtains and the furniture had seen better days. When I looked out of the window there were old mattresses in the garden. When we arrived there was one poor chap checking people in and out and serving drinks in the bar which didn't give a very good first impression. On the positive side there is parking and breakfast was good.

"Not the best please Iv ever stayed!!!"
David R, 28 Juin 2016

Where do I start? Room was ok on first inspection (very hot but ok) but then I opened a draw. All the draws and cupboards had rubbish in them, just gos to show that cleaning isn't a priority. Shower did not work! Cold tap on the sink did not work ether! The hotel is very noisy at night. There was lots of people walking around and banging doors. The evening staff were a bit rood (I don't think they wanted anyone in there bar or to have food) Breakfast was good

"A drink "
Jillyjp2, 22 Juin 2016

It was carnival day in Tonbridge they had one member of staff working in the bar, it was his first day, there was no one to assist or mentor him. He mentioned to a senior female staff member who came to use the till that the lager was not working she totally ignored him. Pretty poor really, I felt sorry for him. Not good enough Best Western

"leaves something to be desired"
michaelvivian, 17 Juin 2016

We spent three nights at this hotel, the welcome by a young lady when we arrived somewhat frazzled was very good, the room was reasonable in size but there was dirt on the front of the armchair and either pigeon poo or snot on the side of the bed linen. this was nothing compares to a terrible smell which pervaded everything. I suspect it was a dead rat or other large rodent. The bed was not made the next morning so we made it ourselves for the remainder of the stay.

"Handiest location and hard to fault this hotel!"
Girlfriday67, 15 Juin 2016

Stayed for 3 nights in a single room. My room was beautifully refurbished, quite large for a single room in UK. It was clean, and had everything I could want, even a hairdryer. Room was light, warm, had tv and tea making facilities, bed really comfortable, heaps of pillows and cushions. Staff were friendly, helpful and even went out of their way to make sandwiches on our arrival at about 4pm after my group arrived in from Heathrow, starving and filthy - best sandwiches I've ever eaten! Original building dates back to late 1600's, so it is very old and very pretty, rooms and outbuildings have been added on later. Very quaint with little hanging baskets of flowers in the courtyard outside. The best part about this hotel was the location. Right on the Tonbridge High Street, we could walk to all shops and pubs, restaurants and train station. We found excellent places to eat in town, only steps away, and enjoyed the scenic river walk, castle ruins, churches and op-shops on the high street. Locals were friendly and helpful. In short, we had an excellent stay. Highly recommend.

"Not the worst or the best"
ktq88, 04 Juin 2016

Stayed in a room in the main building. Bed was comfy and the room was quiet- it was at the back of the hotel. It's not a luxury place but then that's reflected in the price. If all you need is a bed for the night it's perfectly OK. The shower temperature was fine and the staff were friendly - the barman and the receptionist.

"Good service taylor made for you"
katie e, 02 Juin 2016

I very much like visiting the Rose and Crown, I meet up with my girlfriends every so often for supper. It is a great place to go and wait for someone, it is safe, comfortable and the staff are all very helpful. We had a lovely meal their, the chef amended the meals to suit are particular diets and the food was very good indeed. My only gripe is that we could always get a parking spot in the car park, but now it is filled with trades peoples vehicle and I am pretty sure they are not staying in the hotel, this time round I had to find alternative parking and spoilt my evening somewhat.

"Great location"
n0ts0g00d, 01 Juin 2016

Stayed a total of 13 nights This is an older hotel and has been a round for a long time on Tonbridge High street Right across from Tonbridge Castle so is very handy for any trips or shopping and off course any bus service you may require. Got to know the barman Ashley who did a real good job off looking after my needs. All the staff were great. I had one problem but that was promptly sorted out out by hotel staff. Breakfast was either the traditional english breakfast or a buffet. Both were good

"In desperate need of a refurbishment"
Tracy C, 01 Juin 2016

My colleague and I were booked into the Rose and Crown whilst on business. It is like stepping back in time and although there is a certain charm and quaintness to the hotel it is definitely in need of a refurb. My room was in the main building up and around several flights of stairs and down corridors, I would not want to find my way back after a couple of drinks! Whilst on the surface it looked clean, after a quick check round the curtains, skirting boards and the back of the toilet door had not been cleaned for quite a time and while it was nice to have water in the room I was not sure when it was last changed so felt uneasy about using. My colleague, who's room was in the 'new' building across the courtyard, described her room as 'more like a motel and Crossroads came to mind'. If I visit this area again I think I would be more inclined to stay in the Premier Inn down the road... sorry but Best Western need to inject a bit if love into this rather lovely old building. One last note.. the bed was very hard and to my mind had a VERY cheap mattress on.

"Old but interesting"
MillyM0llie, 31 Mai 2016

We stayed one night. Building very old but 'interesting'. Rooms look to have been updated and the beds are very comfy. Very quiet at night. Staff friendly and helpful. Cannot comment on the breakfast as we chose not to have it.

"Clean and Comfy Room"
Abbey2010, 30 Mai 2016

I've stayed here before - about 5 years ago. I was travelling on my own and had a single room booked. The hotel also has a large free car park and is located right in the middle of Tonbridge High Street. Check in was simple and the lady who served me was friendly and chatty - unlike her male colleague who was serving someone else and seemed a bit grumpy. My room (29) looked like it had been refurbished recently and was very clean and modern. Had a problem with the TV which said it had no signal, but having fiddled with it for about half an hour, discovered the ariel lead was plugged into the wrong hole. The bathroom was also new and was clean and having read previous reviews, I had no issues with the shower. It was a warm day and the room was not. No air con and although I had the windows open it didn't really cool down much. Then I discovered although the valve on the radiator was off, it was actually still giving off heat ! Later in the afternoon I decided to have a sleep as was meeting friends that evening. I got woken up by loud music being played and it turns out my room was directly above a conference room where there was a party setting up and the disco had started. It is a lovely old building and does have very creaky floorboards which are noisy when people are walking past in the corridor. Breakfast was good, but waitress at breakfast was quite sullen and not very friendly. Overall it is a clean, comfy hotel but the service wasn't great.

"Traditional Old English Coaching Inn"
BryanLane62, 30 Mai 2016

The Rose and Crown oozes charm when you walk through the door. Is it a bit tired ? Well maybe, but it's been here for a few hundred years and has an interesting history, so maybe rustic charm would be a fairer description here than tired. A Coaching Inn that's seen some interesting visitors in its time, resting for the night in this glorious old building on their long journeys from London to the coastal towns of Rye, Hastings and Eastbourne (have a read of the poster by the bar for its history). A slight downside of all this historic charm is the very creaky floors, don't think you're going to sneak about quietly in this place ! But otherwise, the room we had was very nicely appointed with everything you'd expect of a modern hotel. We had room 12 at £85 for the night including breakfast. Of annoyance is some sort of air conditioning unit outside the window which is somewhat intrusive. It's not for the room though as there isn't any air conditioning in this room. But it didn't run through the night. The room faces the rear of the hotel and once the air conditioning unit had stopped for the night, it was perfectly quiet and peaceful. The car park is at the back of the hotel, check on Google Maps as its not obvious how to find it. The hotel fronts onto Tonbridge High Street and the car park access is via Lyons Crescent which is 200 yards or so down the road from the hotel, then around the one way system. The full English breakfast is excellent. Staff are very polite and courteous.

"Great location needs updating and staff training"
John C, 29 Mai 2016

This was a two night stay to see friends. Room was basic and in reasonable condition, layout of bathroom was poor and it was difficult to get into the shower or bath. Needs decoration and better furniture in the room, i.e wardrobe was very old and falling apart. twin beds are of very poor quality and need replacing, no controls on heating and it was full on during a good summer day! Main doors locked at 11.00 and had to knock to gain entry, took several minutes to get any response and then it was another guest who opened the door. Tried to get a nightcap at 11.30 both nights but staff were unhelpful and gave the impression they did not want to be there, very similar experience at breakfast which was disorganised and chaotic, staff looked to be experienced but very grumpy and stressed which needs to be sorted out, I will not stay at this hotel again

"Great place "
Charlotte K, 27 Mai 2016

The Rose and Crown is the perfect misfire of original character furnishing and buildings and modern comfort. There are stairs to many of the rooms so, if it's busy, it may not be perfect for someone with a disability. However, the staff are extremely helpful and very friendly. I feel confident any issues would be worked out quickly. The hotel is central to Tonbridge and a short walk to some amazing features: the Castle, river, many Churches and more. Would definitely recommend to friends.

"Shabby in places but rooms are fine"
happyhopper1, 26 Mai 2016

This hotel is not bad for the price, i paid around £60 for a single room which was clean, had decent facilities and condiments, also nice comfortable bed. It looks as though the bedrooms have recently been refurbished with new showers etc. however the corridors and stairs to the rooms have most certainly not been decorated since the 80's. I understand that running a hotel is difficult and costs an absolute fortune to refurbish so i am glad that the rooms have seen some attention, realistically the corridors dont really matter, however i think they will have much better reviews on here if they adddress the carpet on the stairs etc. Generally a good experience and location is great.

"Overnighter"
allycemaegan, 19 Mai 2016

Great old Coaching house, facilities are good, better than basic, building has a lot of charm, bar staff are friendly too. Free wifi toiletries are good overall but than travel lodgewould stay again super

"Comfy and clean"
EmmiFlowers, 10 Mai 2016

Had a great time here with the family! Wasn't too expensive and the rooms were nice! Not sure where else you would stay in town so thankfully this is a nice hotel. Right in the middle of town too! Nice beds too

"Ok "
Dan45030, 02 Mai 2016

Well rooms in need of redecorating but seemed quite clean, the staff are badly trained in our opinion, mainly due to not being told stuff on arrival like what time dinner and breakfast was served on our arrival. We arrived quiet late so went down to the bar at 20:50 to be told we had missed service as they stop at 20:50 bad customer service in my opinion.

"a well-run, traditional English coaching inn - in a historic market town"
clavis2015, 02 Mai 2016

We have been twice - on successive Saturdays Our visits were most satisfactory - efficient & obliging receptionists on both days. On the first occasion, morning coffee was excellent with delicious cake - served promptly by a friendly waiter. The seating area has comfortable chairs. Lunch on the second visit was served by a young lady who positively sparkled - she has an events manager's degree & is a credit to the establishment We did not have to wait long for the food which was tasty & well-presented. Three flags are flown over the grand entrance. On St George's Day it would have been more suitable to fly the English flag rather than the Welsh one, but the latter seems to be a permanent fixture.

"Aging and rundown."
WorldwideAtraveller, 27 Avril 2016

No complaints about the staff on this occasion, although on previous visits the receptionist (not the same person on this visit) was unhelpful). Do note, how ever, that some of the restaurant staff seem to have a fairly poor command of English. The main issue however, is that the hotel is getting to be extremely run down. I stay here on business because of the location, but the standards have slipped so much that I doubt very much that I will stay here again. Rooms in the main building have more old world charm, but the floor is uneven and the floorboards creek a lot. Worse, however, the shower water temperature was impossible to regulate - either scalding or cold; the lavatory did not flush properly despite several attempts; the bathroom towel rail had a faulty electrical switch; the light over the basin did not work, and the room heating was inadequate and no way of regulating it from the room. Since we have experienced similar problems on previous stays, we simply put up with it on this occasion and did not report the problems - but not going to stay here again in a hurry. Breakfast buffet acceptable, did not try the wifi.

"Aging and really in need of some tlc."
Mark G, 26 Avril 2016

This is my first time at a Best Western so perhaps they are all like this? The building is quirky but really that quickly wears thin as the floor is extremely creaky! The windows are thin and there was an owl living in the room above me as all I could hear through the night was its tooting. The big water was a joke, I gave up trying to have a shower as I just couldn't get a middle ground other than scalding hot or ice cold. The linens were all clean and the towels were nice a fresh. Parts of the room were nice but others were just too old. The finish in the bsthroom was very cheap too, with cheap fittings and cheap plastic floor that didn't quite fit. The breakfast was actually quite good, so was the service. The only bad thing was the ceiling started to leak whilst over a customer having his breakfast!

"Business"
juliepheby, 25 Avril 2016

Stayed for a week on business hotel great ,food lovely staff are very friendly and nothing is to much for them ,room very clean and warm which I like ,good size bed ,room I had was overlooking the car park but was very quite at night time, would stay there again.

"Hotel with character"
Elizalilian, 20 Avril 2016

Stayed here for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was in a room in the old part of the hotel at the front but noise wasn't an issue. Comfortable bed, good lighting - a lovely bath and friendly helpful staff. Breakfast was an added extra on our package, but I couldn't fault it. We ate in the restaurant one evening; my dish was fine, but my sister found hers to be greasy and tasteless - so we found other places for the rest of our stay. Very central and well positioned with good breakfast and friendly staff. Certainly good value for money.

"Room for improvement "
StephenHoneyman, 19 Avril 2016

I was pleasantly surprised by the food. The evening meal and the breakfast were of avert good standard, far better than expected. The room, however, was disappointing. The shower did not have enough water pressure, the hit water tap ran dry having filled the bath to a dept of 1 inch. Staff at reception not particularly concerned at this. In the morning, on opening the curtains, there was an empty crisp packet indicating the level of cleaning. I also cut my foot on something sharp in the carpet..... I know, I should have worn slippers!! On a positive note about the room, the curtains obscured the daylight in the morning!! Tip.... Ask for a second key if there are two of you in the room. All that said, I would stay here again, but be prepared for the shortcomings. At £90 per night, it is expensive for the standard provided.

"Okay for a one night stop."
Eduardobear, 16 Avril 2016

Stayed here for a one night stop with some golfing buddies. My room was in a wing which I would guess was built in the 1970's and looks and feels dated. Nothing wrong with the room or its amenities. The room was described as Garden View.Well, a view over a muddy patch, Power sub station and a scruffy warehouse isn't what I would call 'Garden'. More like an Industrial Estate. No doubt at all that if my wife was with me,she would have asked for something else. ( I wouldn't bring her here!) The Bar / Restaraunt isn't much, we found a Chinese down the street. Breakfast was good.

"Not as good as we had hoped for!"
Rora49, 03 Avril 2016

Our room was very warm and a bit noisy being at the front of the hotel, overlooking the street. The shower was red-hot and the toilet wouldn't flush properly. The breakfast was fine if you wanted a traditional cooked meal but there was no vegetarian alternative and nothing for gluten free people. On a positive note the staff were friendly and helpful.

"Impromptu Birthday Party"
Pam N, 01 Avril 2016

Well done to the staff at the Rose & Crown! 13 of us turned up at 7pm yesterday, staff accommodated us without delay by rearranging the seating in a nice quiet corner of the restaurant, took our food orders very politely even though we needed a bit of prompting as it was getting late. The food was delicious. We were left to enjoy ourselves without being hassled as it was getting quite late by the time we paid the bill and left - and all this without booking in advance. Very well done all of you, it made a very enjoyable evening for us all.

"Disappointing"
Nicola A, 01 Avril 2016

Unfortunately this hotel smelt like a old chip fryer. Food was overcooked and restaurant staff not really interested. I am a fond lover of strong coffee but during morning breakfast I could have used it as paint stripper, hard poached eggs, cold fresh tomato and over cooked black pudding.

"Period accommodation in a good location"
chattygirlLondon, 30 Mars 2016

I had the pleasure of staying at the Rose & Crown a couple of weeks ago whilst away on location. Welcoming staff who helpfully looked after some of my kit bags overnight in Reception to save me heaving them upstairs to my room which went a long way to making my stay so much easier. On arrival there was plenty of room in the car park and I was shown to my room which looked out over the beer garden area, I didn't get disturbed by any noise so slept very well. The room was very clean and tea, coffee and bottled water was available along with some biscuits which was a nice touch. My bed was very comfortable and I sunk into it for a very good sleep before work the next morning. I paid for the continental breakfast and there was plenty of choice and staff were attentive. The quality of the food was good. I was very happy with the service I received at this hotel, the only point I would make is the cost of the room itself was a little on the expensive side for this particular Best Western. It is quirky and period and as such a little dated, the wifi is also hit and miss. I would recommend this hotel but do think their prices should be more realistic.

"Perfect break in personal hotel."
lukas_wales, 24 Mars 2016

After running a quick search online for my stay in Tonbridge, I found the Rose and Crown. I went for it because everything just felt right - it was the right decision. Tonbridge is a really nice area to explore so you want to be in a hotel that accommodates that personal feel. The staff are all 'there' and present, which is proving quite rare in most hotels these days. The building itself is fabulous and the furniture all tells a story. The feel combines historic with well kept. I'm personally very bored of budget holiday inn stays where there is no character. This place has a lot of individuality which I loved. I really enjoyed being in the environment of the hotel bar. The room was peaceful, clean and the wifi was high speed. I'm booking my next solo trip soon because there is a 7km walking trail next to the castle. I even met the hotel owner and he was a very nice man. I recommend the restaurant on the high street called Graze.

"Serendipitous find in Kent commuter town"
Dominic P, 24 Mars 2016

I needed a place to stay in this part of Kent and the Rose and Crown looked an interesting bolt hole. It is a charming old half-timbered inn (behind a regency brick facade) at the northern end of Tonbridge High Street. The layout inside appears somewhat ramshackle (all part of its medieval charm) and the rooms are not numbered consecutively. However, all is well signposted and I had not difficulty in finding my room. There are no lifts in the hotel and stairs occur in all sorts of unexpected places. My bedroom was nice and warm and comfortable with plenty of storage space and a very snug armchair. There is free wi-fi but don't forget to ask for a password at reception. The bathroom is very well appointed with both bath and shower. The restaurant serves individually cooked breakfasts which were very good (no congealing breakfast buffets here) but I must confess that I was disappointed by the dinner which was pub grub rather than fine dining. I was particularly pleased by the fortuitous assistance I received with my luggage on departure, from a passing member of staff.

"An acquired taste"
TheShenanigan, 24 Mars 2016

Like a lot of places of its heritage (16th Century) in small towns, The Rose & Crown is an acquired taste. Positives are its location and refurbished ground floor reception rooms and bar. Poor characteristics include the unsociable hours noise (from the road, other guests and staff) and the bathrooms.

"Short break in Kent"
Mary T, 22 Mars 2016

Being a very cold day when we arrived at the hotel we fully expected a lovely warm Room- it is rated a four star. .the radiator was inadequate, the large towel rail in the bathroom( the only heat) was broken. Reported this to the duty manager and also left a note in the room. On our second day we found a small fan heater with a very short cable! We kept the curtains open all the time to allow what heat the radiator gave out to stay in the room! The bedding was poor. The sheet had a tear and the pillows had seen better days. Toilet would not always flush- this was the case with the other guests we spoke to. On the plus side- the breakfasts were lovely , freshly cooked and plenty of choice. Dinner was good, but poorly presented We did have help with our luggage - we were at the top of the building - three flights of stairs. The hotel needs a complete renovation and a few more trained staff. The staff are friendly and willing and the Manager was really helpful

"Comfortable with friendly staff but needs some renovation and there was no wi fi"
travellerkMidlands, 14 Mars 2016

The check in process was easy. There was no lift due to the age of the building but no-one offered to help with my bags up the stairs to my room. The corridors are shoddy and the smell of grease after breakfast lingers all day. The room was comfortable and warm although the main light did not seem to work which made the room very dark and depressing. The TV worked but the channels were all mixed up. Pleasant tray of drinks and biscuits and a nice touch of water in glass bottles although they were not cold. There was always hot water and I liked the fact there was a bath, not just a shower. The toilet had brown stains.Toiletries were provided. Breakfast was quite varied with food cooked fresh, not left in heated containers. Milk was provided in little glass bottles. Proper newspapers (as opposed to the free type papers) were available for reading in the foyer. It was quite popular as a pub but I couldn't hear anything from my room except the creaking whenever anybody moved in the room above. There was no 'Do Not Disturb' sign to use. The staff were helpful if you asked for anything. The biggest nuisance was the lack of wi fi but apparently that is being sorted. There was a computer for use in the foyer, but only one, and you could not work on it as you can on your own equipment.

"Excellent out-of-town hotel for business in London"
John M, 06 Mars 2016

I had things to do in Kent and London during a recent trip so decided to stay in Tonbridge and catch the train to London when needed. I chose this hotel because of its convenient location, just 10 minutes slow walk to the train station. The staff and accommodation were very welcoming and the room perfectly adequate for my needs. The bedroom window was a bit difficult to manage, as it was a UPVC framed insert behind a sash window, which I wasn't able to close. No big deal but it did get a bit noisy outside at times. Breakfast was excellent, with fresh ingredients and enough to keep my very healthy appetite satisfied. Would certainly use this hotel again.

"Poor Basics"
John M, 01 Mars 2016

Poor heating, no hot water, no TV. However, I did receive a refund on breakfast because of the problems. As far as I'm concerned it was too little too late. For a major hotel chain to have such basic problems is unacceptable, not good enough. Not much more to say.

"february overnight"
Andrew M, 22 Février 2016

I stay here twice a year to attend the Audiojumble and meet friends for our social event. I usually stay here as it has a good central location. This year i managed to get a very good price deal for a single room B&B so I can not complain about value for money which was excellent. I do use BW hotels alot and have a loyalty rewards card which I think gets me the good deals. My only gripe is the one I have every time I stay and that is that this hotel is long overdue a refurbishment in particular in the modern annexe. It amazes me in this day and age that a hotel like this can get away with zero facilities for disabled guests. Such facilities could easily be provided in the annexe at ground floor level with a ramp access from the car park. If some of the rooms here had a walk in shower cubicle that a stool could be situated, my wife who is disabled could accompany me on these trips. Not much to ask in this day and age i feel.

"Family Birthday"
George186312, 22 Février 2016

I recently went to this hotel to celebrate my sister's 60th birthday. We had lunch and an afternoon tea and the food and service were both excellent. The staff were friendly and attentive and coped well with the three generations of us. All in all they helped make our day really enjoyable.

"Best Western makes it hard for their staff"
Kristien W, 22 Février 2016

The Rose and Crown seems to have come to a halt in the 1960's which is a pity because it's well placed, has a good car park and our room was clean and had a comfortable bed. The staff was professional, very helpful and friendly. In fact, I felt sorry for them because they tried their utmost to make us feel welcome and at home. They were 100% service oriented. Best Western management however has let the place go to pot and charges far too much for rooms without wifi (in fact even at reception, the wifi signal is poor) in which you can hear the neighbours turn in their bed. The bathroom is far too small and uncomfortable. The restaurant furniture is shabby and the whole place urgently needs a makeover.

"Nothing quite works"
rpt1968, 17 Février 2016

heating not working internet not working hot water not hot bedside table light NW , broken window. Requested new room after reported all faults, same problems minus broken window. Spoken to colleagues who have previously stayed here all same issues incl window reported months ago! Have breakfast and listen to the swear festival coming from the kitchen each morning reminds me of my army days. Floors so creaky here it's like a horror film. I like best western this hotel and staff really letting the chain down, avoid if possible but Tonbridge hotels limited?

"Much better than expected"
Suzy_Squirrel, 16 Février 2016

I've just returned from a stay at the Rose and Crown, which I was not really looking forward to due to so many negative reviews. But I've been pleasantly surprised. My room was newly refurbished and well furnished. Reasonable quality bed linen with comfortable bed and pillows. Bathroom clean and well equipped. Staff very friendly. Breakfast good with pleasant, efficient service. The rate was very reasonable (discounted too due to my attending a funeral that the hotel was hosting a reception for). So all in all, a positive experience. Only negatives were the smell of frying in the public areas and the carpets and decor in the many winding corridors were rather worn – but this is a reasonably-priced coaching inn rather than a swanky five star hotel, so didn't really expect anything else.

"Nice Hotel"
Ian T, 15 Février 2016

Here on business for 1 night. I paid £60 for the room which I found to be a bit more than I would have liked to have paid. That aside, the room was really nice and clean. The staff were really nice and friendly. I did not eat there as I arrived late at night so cannot comment on the food but have to say the menu did look really good. I would definetely stay here again as it was quiet. Nice bar area and a good car park at the rear of the premises. Great for visiting the town centre :)

"Very good "
potterjja12, 14 Février 2016

Stayed for one night visiting friends lovely clean room with really comfortable bed. Massive and again really clean bathroom. Couldn't fault really just could have done with more plug sockets. Good tea making facilities with decent sized mugs

"Drab and Shabby"
Barbara W, 04 Février 2016

We stayed here for one night as we were working nearby. Our room was drab and smelled musty. The walk from reception to the "garden wing" where our room was located was scruffy. The twin beds were narrow. The restaurant area was very depressing. The original beams were painted a miserable beige as was the whole room. We had planned to have dinner there but could not face it. The wifi was OK and free. We will NEVER return to this hotel. We paid a lot less to stay at the Brighton Hilton the week before!

"Quiet bed"
asquill, 27 Janvier 2016

Well OK it was Christmas time but this place is rather drab and very run down. View of old bathtubs etc from bedrooms not very stimulating. We did not eat there and I would not be tempted to do so if visiting again. Needs a revamp!

"Could be so much better"
Clive M, 27 Janvier 2016

we stayed hear for a night to attend a birthday party, this is a very old building which has quiet a bit if history to it. the building itself needs to show more of its original features such as all the oak which has been used in construction and then painted. the room we had, room 9, has had some work carried out fairly recently with a reasonably nice bathroom and the carpet looks as if it hasn't been down long but you cannot walk across the floor without it squeaking, the pillows were foam and very thin the bedding was clean but the quilt was again very thin. All the staff we came across were friendly and the breakfast was OK with plenty of choice. in the right hands this could be a really good hotel.

"Mr Partridge "
craigpartridge, 20 Janvier 2016

The staff were positive and polite but the room was so cold and the radiator was leaking. The hotel outside lights were so bright I thought it was daylight. (2am when I checked). I was meant to stay for 2 nights but I couldn't freeze for another night. Overall the hotel needs modernising. Don't think I'll hurry to stay there again.

"Rose & Crown"
Barry D, 17 Janvier 2016

Had sever problem with hot water getting to room, it took about 10 ? for hot water to get to sink & Bath. wifi very poor in annex & non existent in other room in main part of hotel. although the staff were excellent, the were unable to help with the wifi issue or the water problem in the room.

"Very Good Stay"
Mandie B, 11 Janvier 2016

Excellent helpful staff and a lovely breakfast. The car park is a little difficult to find as it is behind the hotel but once you know this it's a breeze! Very good value for money. I would recommend it

"Great value! Great Staff."
JamesF1990, 05 Janvier 2016

Staying for business for a few nights, Room was great for the value and very clean. But the staff are the thing that set this hotel apart, Hayley was fantastic great personality too have working at this hotel and very helpful too myself. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area. James Fenech

"Pleasant stay"
Susan L, 03 Janvier 2016

Stayed here on New |Years Eve.Comfortable, pleasant stay. Staff were polite and helpful. Made use of the bar before heading out for the night. Excellent breakfast, plenty of choice. Free parking for guests. Good value for money.

"Not good enough"
GJames26, 01 Janvier 2016

First the good bits. Bar and breakfast area appear refurbed and are pleasant. Location is good in town centre. After that it goes downhill I'm afraid and the hotel is charmless despite its external attractiveness. The whole hotel smelled of fried food and the common areas apart from the bar area were dirty and needed a lot of attention. The rooms are variable. At the front they are just too noisy and the facilities poor: a tv smaller than my laptop, a smelly bathroom and a broken radiator thermostat meaning it was full on. Added to this, so many of the staff sit smoking at the rear by the car park. And all this at a price they should be ashamed of. Never again.

"Christmas lunch "
Glenda H, 30 Décembre 2015

We decided to have our Christmas lunch out for the first time ever. We were not disappointed. The staff and food at the Great Western Rose and Crown in Tonbridge was the best. Lovely cooked hot food and very polite staff. Would recommend to anyone. We may return next year .

"Great Winter Deal"
Paul C, 30 Décembre 2015

Best Western's website offered a B&B deal that beat the usual comparison sites. We have stayed here before and this return visit was as good as the previous one 3 years ago. A very clean, comfortable room with a variety of bathroom products and an excellent breakfast in the morning provided the overnight stay that we required.

"Premium price for budget facilities"
maureenkent1, 28 Décembre 2015

Stayed at The Rose and Crown Christmas Night. Probably full of history if you stayed longer and wanted to find out. One night was enough for us. Very warm welcome, but then the heat was too much. Our room was like a sauna even with the window kept open by the information folder in the room. Bed was comfortable, shower was hot , but barely a dribble. Breakfast, mushrooms tasted like they had been boiled, scambled eggs dry and over cooked. This is a premium priced hotel with budget facilities. Very tired and neglected. The only value for money is the location, which was good for us as family lived within walking distance.

"Bargain basement quality at premium price"
acoustic_willi, 26 Décembre 2015

My wife and I stayed for one night over the Christmas period. The saving grace was the excellent staff - cheerful, helpful, polite, communicative. As for the rest we were less than impressed. You know you've drawn the short straw when you smell cooking as soon as you're through the door. The stale smell went right through the hotel although the room itself wasn't too bad, but would have benefited from an airing all the same. Decor - grim. Dark, worn & faded. Comfort - grim. The sofa in the room nearly touched the floor when you sat in it, and the mattress wasn't much better. If you're going to put two single beds together to make a king-size the sensible thing is to make sure you've got bed linen large enough to tuck in rather than just sit on top, especially if you're charging punters £100 a night. Breakfast - didn't stay for breakfast but a strong presence of bacon was nasally detected. Staff - very good, get both stars. I've used hotels a lot this year but I'm afraid this one, the Rose and Crown on Tonbridge High Street, will stay in my memory for all the wrong reasons.

"Beware of the Shower!!"
Andrea D, 17 Décembre 2015

Going to begin with a warning: The shower is DANGEROUSLY HOT!!! I've stayed here a couple of times recently, loved the quirkiness of the place - full of character. My rooms were in the main building both times, and the hotel has an 'annex' too. On the first visit, the shower ran boiling hot, then icy cold, then boiling hot, then icy cold (and repeat many times). Seriously dangerously hot. Second visit, purely boiling hot. Even hot water out of the cold tap for a good while. Shower impossible, ended up having to run a bath. My friend stayed in the annex and he experienced cold water through his shower - both in the evening and again in the morning. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the food in the restaurant is good and very reasonably priced. The breakfasts include a decent choice of pastries, cold meats & cheeses, cereals etc; and cooked breakfasts straight from the kitchen. The linen and towels were clean, as were the rooms. The bed was comfy too. Had a great night's sleep. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, sort out the plumbing!!!

"Appalled "
Irene F, 16 Décembre 2015

I must start by saying I didn't actually stay here myself, thank goodness! My boyfriend did. The main issue was that he found a tub of butter and packet of crumpets in a wardrobe in his room that were a month old and mouldy. He also did not have any hot water to shower with for both of the nights he stayed here. He was offered no help or refund, he was only told that there was in fact hot water! Avoid! Avoid! Avoid!

"Ideal location"
kentholidayers, 14 Décembre 2015

Old Coaching House which retains some of its character. I have been using this Hotel since it was THF back in the late 1970's and it has always been what it says on the tin a 3 star market town Hotel. I stayed in the annex this time which is absolutely fine for a couple of nights but you probably would not want a week. Rooms clean only issue that shower over bath difficult to temperature control. I had drinks at the bar which was fine. All staff good. I did not dine or take breakfast. In my opinion the rates are probably £10 higher than they should be for what's on offer.

"Good Town Location"
IntrepidAbroad, 30 Novembre 2015

Reminiscent of a market town feel, the Rose & Crown is an olde world hotel with character in a great location. Friendly staff, warm atmosphere, We booked this hotel with best western loyalty points, due to its location for an overnight stop whilst travelling down to the south coast. Its an old building with a more modern annex at the rear, small reception and bar area, the bar opens up to the restaurant and breakfast area which has lots of character. Our room was in the old building, All facilities as advertised, the only criticism was the uncomfortable bed (for us) . Breakfast was good with the usual selection of cooked food. Appeared to be a popular independent hotel with character.

"Decent value - except the bar"
Craig J, 27 Novembre 2015

I would guess this was once the place to stay in Tonbridge and others have pointed out its age and yes it is a bit old fashioned. I stayed one night; it is not expensive but on balance decent value. My double room did look more recently decorated but it was spotless though the floor seemed to slope at an alarming angle. It was too warm so I kept the window open. Bar prices I thought extortionate. I did not eat but it was busy. Wifi is free and good quality in my room.

"Family Weekend"
Adam R, 09 Novembre 2015

My son and I stayed at the Rose and Crown for 2 nights. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were a good size, clean and comfortable. Great location making it easy to shop locally, commute to London or the seasides around Kent and Sussex. We would return!

"Good and friendly caring staff"
Paul K, 04 Novembre 2015

I have stayed at this hotel for over a month and have found the reception staff absolutely fantastic. Nothing was too much for them and they honestly wanted to help. The restaurant staff are the same only let down by a couple of young members who try but their inexperience shows. The room I stay in is a home away from home big enough to make me feel comfortable. The food in the restaurant is good very tasty with a good variety the chiefs will make you within reason any normal home meal ( not on the menu ). There has been some criticism regarding being a "tired hotel" the manager is addressing this. In all honesty I have stayed in more expensive hotels in the UK which are in worse condition. It is in an ideal location its value for money the staff are helpful and care what more can you ask for.

"Great potential"
Timothy F, 03 Novembre 2015

The age, history, quaintness and location of this property give it the potential of being a super experience. However, even though there is evidence of trying to improve the property they have a long way to go. It is tired and worn and needs some major updating.

"A classy city center hotel."
allaf, 03 Novembre 2015

Located at the top end of Tonbridge high street very close to all the shops, and restaurants in the vibrant Tonbridge. Also it is just opposite Tonbridge castle. We went there for drinks recently, and as we walked in we saw the modern bar on our left hand side which was well equipped with all drinks, and comfortable chairs all around. On our right as we walked in was the large dining room which is on two levels. we sat in the outside covered area at the back of the hotel which was quite and relaxing. It is an old hotel with a very good reputation for comfort, and good food.

"Disgusting"
Veronica M, 29 Octobre 2015

The staff is exceptionally friendly, but this is the end of anything positive I could find about the Rose and Crown in Tonbridge, no matter how hard I was looking for more arguments in its favour. When you get in you can't help noticing the hotel is very tired but I thought well, it has some charm. Until I saw the clouds of dust raising when moving around the room (luckily the sheets were very clean and pleasant at least), the cobwebs hanging shoulder high from the ceiling, the screw missing on the door knob (room 101). There is no hairdryer available, the water taps is the bathroom are ca 25cm apart for the hot and cold water, so no chance to get a comfortable temperature to wash your hands and they are also leaking, they don't have a power adaptor they could lend you and the sound insulation is poor to say the least. But the most horrible thing is that the WiFi is not available, seems as if the password provided to guests and staff is not the right one - it's hard to accept you find such standards in 2015, it was a shocking experience for me

"Another perfect stay"
Sue H, 21 Octobre 2015

Was there for my brothers wedding. As always the staff were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble. Only problem was internet didn't work in my room. Was perfect location for everything I needed visiting friends and family

"Rose & Crown revisited"
Hotspurs, 18 Octobre 2015

2nd visit to Rose & Crown this year, would stay again if visiting Tonbridge in the future. Breakfast very good also the one evening meal we had was likewise.Room good but could get warm at times.....heating had a mind of it's own but can always open window to compensate. Here's to the next visit.

"Nice hotel."
H857, 14 Octobre 2015

The hotel is nice and clean ,staff freindly food very nice and a good standard. Good breakfast . I would use this hotel again with no problem . Good location for the town and train station . Stayed one night for business but would happily stay for non work related times.

"dissapointing"
madeline D, 12 Octobre 2015

We stayed one night in this hotel and we're very disappointed. The whole place seems very tired and needs sorting out. We had a garden room with no garden just a bit of grass with old chairs and even à dirty cup. The bedroom was quite adequate but very hot. Food was fine and the re ception and bar staff very attentive. What could have been a great stay was very dassapointing

"Adequate! "
Michael W, 05 Octobre 2015

Nice setting, nice food, nice staff! This hotel although could be a great experience makes me chuckle that the bar staff are amongst the most untrained I have ever experienced. Tonight ... After being completely ignored by the young man on the serving side of the bar, I am served by a young lady would when I asked "is that the real ale you serve". I was told " I don't know a don't drink beer" Just thought I'd share this, please don't expect a knowledgable bar?

"Old World Comfort and Comfortable Rooms"
Susan W, 05 Octobre 2015

Nice and comfortable room. Being a female on my own felt looked after. Had a great evening meal and a Whitstable lager. Bathroom is clean and looks new. Room was nice and and we'll decorated. Hotel is quirky and has some nice new decoration. Would stay here again as a single business woman, felt safe and comfortable. The only downside wss the breakfast which was unattractive and the hot food not very nice.

"Good food, shame about the rest"
dispeg, 03 Octobre 2015

This is a review solely of the restaurant. We had come on a Saturday evening to sample the "meal for 2 for £25", having done so a year before and been well satisfied. This time. however, things weren't so great. I can't fault the food; everything we ordered and ate was delicious and well presented The same couldn't be said of the table, which lacked care and the cutlery wasn't as clean as it should have been. The young lady serving us was perfectly friendly, but clearly hadn't received much training; she hadn't a clue about the wine on offer, and when we asked for Irish coffees, she was blank. Indeed, it appears no-one in the hotel knows how to produce this item and it was left to a customer at the bar to step in (with rather mediocre results). The price was also an issue; while this is undoubtedly good value for the quality of feood, the terms of the offer are vague; we were led to believe "meal" comprised 2 courses, but were charged extra for starters at the end of the evening. (Nowhere on the advertising boards etc does it clarify this.) Overall, nice food, but distinctly amateurish. Tonbridge is now blessed with a good range of eateries; the practically empty dining room at the Rose and Crown that Saturday evening shows that they must do much better to compete.

"Good location and hotel - just need some attention to detail "
bethyoscar22, 27 Septembre 2015

The Stayed at the Rose and Crown as was attending a wedding in Tonbridge - great location for the venues. On first impression it looked a little tired - we stayed in the "garden wing" on first impressions of the room - the decor was nice but the smell wasn't - faint vinegar(?!) the Facilities in the room were what we needed but the most important .... The beds these had to be the thinnest, cheapest mattresses we have ever used (even in our student days) if you moved an inch the springs would make a loud noise and dig in - seriously awful a really shame as the room was nice! The shower was more of a dribble and the bathroom needed a good clean. For a one night quick stop-over absolutely fine but longer than that - I would have been asking for my money back.

"Grubby"
lurcher, 21 Septembre 2015

First impression is an overflowing skip in the carpark and a carpet of cigarette ends around the door into reception. With that type of impression you wonder what the rest is like. Room 151 in an annexe was ok but the view out of the window was an unkempt bit of grass and more mess. Breakfast was ok but obviously pre cooked except the greasy fried egg.swimming in oil.
