"Meeting and Overnight stay."

15/08/2018

Staff excellent throughout the Hotel, including pre-arrival, reception and service. Had booked for "a group of unknown quantity" to meet for an evening meal, numbers only finalised the weekend prior to the event; everything went very smoothly. Evening meal, three course at great value, choice of three dishes per course, pre-selected by guests. Good hot food, hot plates, well served. Nice big car-park. Wheel-chair friendly.

"Training Course"

04/08/2018

I recently had to go on a training course in Stone in Staffordshire and and we were put up in the Best Westen Hotel Tillington Hall for the one night, although the Hotel seemed clean it was quite tired and in desperate need of updating and modernisation in general all around the Hotel, the rooms were basic as well and again tired and in need of updating however I was impressed that that had sky television in the rooms, but in my room for example the room was extremely warm, to warm for the time of year and the extreme weather we have been having making it totally uncomfortable and this was compounded by the fact that the window in my room which was an up and over style was broken so there was no way of keeping it open to let some fresh air in to the room thus making it near impossible to sleep resulting in me getting less than an hours sleep all night, leaving me tired for the training course the following day!! Defeating the object of me traveling up the night before to be fresh for the course!! The food was quite nice at the hotel although rather small portions, if I had to come up this way again unfortunately I think I would look at alternative options for accommodation unless there had been a make over of the hotel ! Sorry just being honest

"Nice hotel but beds need upgrading and bigger family rooms with baths not just showers"

03/08/2018

Stayed 2 nights in a family room 2 adults 2 children the room was very small and cramped for 4. Camp beds were fine but the double bed was small and was very uncomfortable possibly the worst nights sleeper have ever had mattress was hard and you could feel the springs through it. Food was good and hotel was clean and staff very nice though

"Comfortable"

Comfortable room for a two night stay. Staff pleasant and helpful, good breakfast. Only two complaints, we were not offered our complimentary drink on arrival. The restaurant only had one white wine cooler. The food was good.

"Great Staff . Perfect for overnight stay."

"Dreadful & Dated"

15/07/2018

The drive up to the Hotel was where it started - at least ten unauthorised caravans has set up camp in front of the hotel. At the motel style entrance there are plastic (or possibly silk) flowers in baskets - really better off not bothering as they look awful. Once in the hotel it is clear that some investment in redecoration is well overdue, public spaces and the rooms are tired and worn. No stable WIFI, No air conditioning and heavy metal windows that only open 3” or 4”. Staff very friendly and as helpful as they can be - but Best Western seriously need to inject some major investment here. Fingers crossed breakfast is good. Will review again tomorrow!

Hello Please accept my apology for your stay not being as satisfactory as expected. The land in front of our hotel is council property, therefore we were somewhat limited to the actions we could take, however we did all that we could and received no problems from them and they left promptly on Monday. I will investigate the problems you received throughout your stay, thank you for bringing them to my attention. I do hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay and visit us again so that we can have another chance to provide you with a superior experience. Kind Regards Emily Lewis Guest Service Manager

Our stay was overall very good, We did have an additional room on our second night for our grandson's girlfriend. The additional room did not meet our standards. It had not been made up and the mattress and cover were stained. We complained and the they updated us to a double room although charged an extra £20 for this. We had only just met his young lady and for a first impression did not go down very well with us. I do think that the £20 should have been waivered. Pam Hibbert

The hotel is easy to find, located just off the M6 J14. The hotel has ample car parking and even a couple of electric charging points next to the hotel, if you require that sort of thing? Checking into the hotel was easy with the staff being extremely helpful, explaining where everything was. The room wasn't overly big, but adequate for me. There was a good choice of food on the evening menu, with the staff be as helpful as they could, and relatively quick service. For breakfast there is a wide choice available which should suit all tastes.

25/06/2018

Stayed here for a Reunion Weekend. I had a single room which was a decent size with ensuite. Lovely and clean. Had a bit of a problem trying to get the telly to work but the girl on reception fixed it. I should have read the instructions provided so thank you for taking the trouble to sort it out for me. The staff at this hotel go the extra mile - nothing is too much trouble - so well worth a visit. They certainly made the reunion weekend an enjoyable experience. Just a wee tip - stronger coffee please ??. Also thanks to the lovely ladies who sorted out poached eggs for me. Breakfast each morning was fantastic.

"Perfect Fathers Day meal!"

5
18/06/2018

Came for a fathers day meal with my family and ordered off the set 3 course menu. All courses were presented perfectly, portion sizes were just right and there was plenty of variety on the menu. We all loved our meals and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the food as the chefs clearly put a lot of effort into what they serve and all of the staff were very welcoming.

"Tillington Serves Up a great event"

5
11/06/2018

On Sunday 10th June 2018 Stafford Lions Club held our charter (a club birthday party) in the Royal Suite at Tillington Hall Hotel. The event was a great success,. The staff were very helpful. The 3 course meal had 4 choices for starters, mains and sweets which were pre-ordered. The plates were warm the food hot and of a very pleasing standard and all served very promptly. When we arrived the room was already set up and looked beautiful. The staff were extremely helpful. After such a disappointing charter in 2017 at another venue (which has now gone out of business) we were worried but were delighted with this event. Well done Tillington and thank you!

08/06/2018

My sister and I stayed at this hotel last weekend it was so nice that we wished we could have stayed longer. We had a lovely ground floor room over looking the gardens which was spacious and spotlessly clean and everything in the room to enhance our stay re facilities. The staff were friendly nothing too much trouble and the food was excellent both bar food and breakfast. There was a lovely patio area to sit and have a drink and take in the sun, the drinks and food were priced reasonably. Value for money most definitely, we would certainly stay here again and would recommend without hesitation. I have stayed in far more expensive hotels of 4 and 5 star rating which have certainly not been so welcoming, clean or food so nice. Who ever owns this hotel should be proud of their staff who are a credit to them and proud of their staff training which is obviously without fault.

Lovely location, clean and tidy large room with friendly helpful staff. Only niggle being the dreaded buffet style breakfast, not a patch on cooked to order, but hey ho. Other than that all good, would come again.

"Dog friendly hotel in good location"

4
31/05/2018

We have stayed a couple of times here with our dogs and we love it. Staff are brilliant, very helpful and friendly, nothing is too much trouble for them, plenty of places to walk dogs, food was great both breakfast and bar order. If you dont want to eat in the hotel there are other pubs locally that serve good food. Great location for exploring Stafford, Stoke, Trentham etc. Some of the more public areas are a bit tired i.e. carpets a bit threadbare in places from heavy use, but our rooms have been excellent, very spacious, clean, tidy, although no fridge in room for fresh milk for tea coffee or medicines but we worked around that. We attend a number of events in the area and overall we love this hotel. We are looking forward to coming back again in a few weeks!

Dear guest, Thank you for your kind words, I am glad to hear you would return to stay in the future and we love to welcome dogs to our hotel. "Average but tired"

27/05/2018

I normally steer clear of best westerns as I find them overpriced for what you get. This was £55 but the bonus was we were able to take our dog. Check in staff were friendly, but the hotel is tired looking and needs refurbishment. Room was clean, and tidy but hotter than the depths of hell (which made the wife feel at home at least) and the window only opened half an inch, a fan was provided in the room though in case you wanted to blow the hot air around. Bed was comfy though so its not all bad. I cant comment on food as we didn't eat there but it did take me 10 minutes to find a member of bar/restaurant staff. Ideal for what we wanted if i didnt have a dog probably wouldnt stay again though.

Emily L, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Stafford M6/J14 Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Guest I am very sorry about your bedroom being so hot, air conditioning is unfortunately not an amenity we are able to offer. We provide a fan in each bedroom to try and help with this. I am glad to hear you found your bed comfortable and we love to welcome pets to our hotel. I do hope this does not deter you from staying with in the future Kind Regards Emily Lewis Guest Service Manager

"Ok but tired"

3
23/05/2018

Stayed for one night on business. My firm booked me into a single room which was very small and claustrophobic so i upgraded to a standard double which was a good size and bathroom was ok but the rest was tired. The bed was ok but a cheap mattress and could feel the springs. Carpet throughout the hotel was threadbare in places. Hotel also forgot to book my taxi for the following morning. On the plus side the staff were very helpful. Evening meal was OK. Steak cooked well but meat itself was tough. Impressed by breakfast as it had a gluten free station for toast and they clearly knew how to keep the foods seperate. Overall nice location but needs a bit of an upgrade for the price paid. I have stayed in a lot better for the same money

"Reasonable quality room but restaurant service terrible "

1
28/04/2018

Visited this hotel to spend time with our son, daughter in law and granddaughter after visiting alton towers. Arrived tired but happy and decided to have a celebratory meal in the restaurant for their wedding anniversary. The restaurant was not busy and having ordered drinks and mains at 7:30 we sat and waited for over three quarters of an hour during which time our drinks arrived (btw do not drink tap water it tastes revolting). We were then left waiting and or granddaughter fell asleep at the table meaning that her parents had to leave to put her to bed. My wife and I waited a few more minutes and decided enough was enough and were about to leave when the restaurant supervisor appeared to apologise for the lateness of the meal. I was so Incensed that I had not been kept up to date with reasons for the lateness (between drink arrival and arrival of supervisor no one had even been near) that I was prepared to cancel the meal and leave. The meal was the delivered as room service but this did not make up for the disappointment.

Emily L, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Stafford M6/J14 Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review

First of all for what we paid it was a bargain. we stayed 2 nights with super break B and B Room , though dated was clean and functional with sky TV inc sports package . Staff very good and breakfast excellent though limited in choices in certain areas. Bar area though not very big was very good value for drinks All in all a good mini break , we will be back when visiting the area again.

08/04/2018

Picked this hotel as they allowed dogs to stay and was really delighted with the welcome. Unfortunately the stay was literally overnight with an early check out so I didn't get a chance to see round much but the staff on reception were very helpful and friendly. The hotel has a large green in front which I could exercise the dogs on and the bar and terrace looked ok from outside. The room was clean and the bed was very comfy. Express check out made things so easy. Thank you for making us welcome and we will be back.

06/04/2018

Well worst night here on our last of 3 nights I can not believe this but I came back from park with kids and we decided to sit in restaurant and have a dessert and a cuppa hot chocolate kids ordered ice cream Sunday which came out like chocolate mess with cherry sauce? Yuk. Me and the Mrs ordered two sticky toffee puddings but could not get the spoon in them staff were shocked at the quality so I saw an opportunity to call the chef over from kitchen door but some lad came out the back and I quote shouted, someone shouting chef ill go round and knock them the fxxk out and saw me, I replied I'm a customer and I hope I don't get knocked out he ran in the back and got the chef who apologies for desserts and offered to remake they came back out just as bad so sent them back and went back to room hungry absolutely disgusting not happy awaiting reply as forwarded to reception to handle. Kids in the kitchen not what I expect from a nice rated hotel no trust now stay away. This is all on top of ripped bedding for two days and no light bulbs in the room on first night and no fresh orange or apple juice for first breakfast just all around poor.

Sadly, it was only a brief stay at the lovely hotel - easy to find not far off the motorway network. Good to look at from the outside, and not disappointing on going into the spacious reception area. I had booked a single room, which was clean, bright and well appointed, with a lovely bath and shower. Breakfast was tasty with a wide range of food on offer. Shame I couldn't stay longer!

05/04/2018

We only stayed for the one night but if staying in the area again would definitely revisit. The room was well laid out, very clean with all the expected facilities. The bathroom was plenty big enough and the shower easy to use. The staff were very polite, helpful and very friendly. Especially Abi and Lucy. Breakfast was very good, I have to say probably the best sausage I have ever had. There was plenty of choice with continental and full English available. Toast and fresh juice in abundance something for everyone. All in all a very enjoyable stay. Definitely recommended.

My husband and I were in room 201 over the Easter weekend with National holidays and couldn't find fault with our stay at all. The room was perfect and the meals we had were excellent. Nothing was a bother to the staff. When we opened our door on Easter day there was an Easter egg outside at every door. What a lovely touch! Would recommend to anybody.

Visit Stafford every year at Easter for a family get together. Normally stay at PI round the corner but this is opposite my cousins so thought we would give it a try. On check in we were presently surprised. Nice friendly staff, and a large clean room on the top floor as requested, we even had a 4 poster bed ! We only had lunch on arrival and breakfast as we only used this as a base but were happy with both. Lovely touch to wake up to an Easter egg outside our door on Easter Sunday ! All in all it's a no frills hotel, with good food, friendly staff and clean rooms- will use again !

22/03/2018

We arrived early on the thursday and they appolijised that our room was not ready. The room was very nice and was nice and warm which was a blessing as it very cold outside and it had snowed. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.there was a free newspaper to read every day. The food in the resturant was nice and hot even the buffet breakfast. As far as we were concerned there was just two small negitive points one was that the shower head was fixed which we do not like very much & the other one was that other than the soup the menu was the same every night although there was two menus and each had quite a few choices.

"Enjoyable Group Weekender"

5
21/03/2018

I booked through the I.O.W Tours company for a weekender 16th - 19th March at Tillington Hall Hotel. We were a coachload ( 48 adults) ages ranging from 21 - 80. The hotel met with any requests before we arrived with regular e-mails promptly. The check-ins were very quickly sorted. The rooms were all off a good clean standard, nice and warm as the weekend weather was very cold and they were no complaints there, apart from the setting up off the sky tv which to be fair the staff were quite happy to assist with. We had a function room set aside for us with a bar, for the for meals and entertainment. The meals were served hot, a good choice menu and expertly cooked by the chefs. The table staff had no problem when we requested several fill ups off the water jugs either. Breakfast was self service with plenty of top-ups of toast and nothing ran out. The staff were polite and courteous at all times. The hotel is situated back from the main road so no nearby traffic noise was heard. Two minutes walk away was a row of shops ; Co-op, Coral Bookmakers ( handy for those in a group visit who fancy a cheeky bet) pharmacy and a family pub with Sky Sports) . Would definitely recommend and thank this hotel and staff to anyone.

"A Sunday roast"

19/03/2018

Another so good meal was had in Stafford my cousin had come to visit us for the weekend from Preston and had booked 8 of us for Sunday roast not knowing there was a party of about 40 at the same time to our disappointment no beef on the menu ok we will have pork as long as there are Yorkshire puddings not a chance ok all was ok until the party of 40 were served beef and Yorkshire pudding as you can imagine we were not happy.all I can say its a good job I wasn't paying or I would have lost my cool

"Lovely hotel"

18/03/2018

Great location just off the motorway. Very helpful reception staff. Especially Lucy who went out of her way to sort out surprise flowers for my girlfriend and even a complementary bottle of wine. Room clean and of high standard. Thoroughly enjoyed it . However the restaurant side of the hotel was disappointing. We pre booked a traditional Sunday roast lunch for 8 people five weeks ago. We were told at the time there were three options of meat beef pork and chicken. On arrival we were told they had no beef. The waitress took our orders and also informed us that they had no Yorkshire puddings. We noticed adjacent to us there was a party who were served Yorkshire puddings and beef which surprised us. When asked why they had been offered this the waitress said they had pre booked the meal. We felt disappointed as we also had booked our table at least five weeks earlier. The point is how can you serve a Sunday roast without Yorkshire's.

Not an unpleasant place. Staff are friendly and helpful. One of the few hotels where a single room means single room. The hotel is slightly tired and needs a revamp. More could be done to improve it and has huge potential. Room not quite clean (hairs in bath and generally worn look) this seemed more from inexperienced staff possibly. Overall does the job but less of a standard the premier inn. If you are staying on business or quick visit then it's ok. Food reasonable quality but high on prices for what you get. Later start with breakfast not starting until 07.30

"Standard hotel - perfect for what we wanted"

My partner and I stayed here on a Saturday night recently. We were looking for cheap accommodation with just the basics as all we needed was a bed, breakfast, shower and tea making facilities. The receptionist was very friendly upon arrival, our room was clean and the buffet breakfast was very nice and provided plenty of choice. We didn't have an evening meal instead, we walked to the nearby Holmcroft pub via a gap in the hotel car park fence for a cheaper alternative. Would stay here again if short term accommodation is required.

"In need of some TLC"

04/03/2018

Visited this hotel as part of a group for a reunion. The hotel carpets and furnishings are in need of an update. Decor shabby for example on our floor the corridor walls had been obviously repaired and patched with a slightly different colour paint. Our room was reasonably comfortable. There were some issues with the electrics a couple of sockets not working. The food was good and service fair until our Saturday night Gala dinner. The service was not good. Tables were served in a haphazard manner and the veg came out to most tables a good 10 minutes after the mains. There appeared to be no overall supervision of the waiting staff. A great disappointment. There was another large event on at the hotel the same night and this might have exacerbated the problem. One other problem encountered was we had arrived on the weekend of the worst weather for some years and the single glazed windows rattled a bit in the wind and were quite drafty.

Emily L, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Stafford M6/J14 Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Suzy Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review and pass on your feedback from your stay. We are due to commence a public area refurbishment with new carpets and wall coverings shortly and are working on improving the hotel. Please accept my sincere apology for the service you received whilst dining. It is very disappointing to hear some of your comments as our service offering is generally very good. After investigation I have found that the manager on shift was unexpectedly called away to assist on the bar, however I understand this should not have hindered your service. Please be assured that all of your comments are welcomed and help us make improvements for future guests. Kind Regards Emily Lewis Guest Service Manager

"Poor room standard"

04/03/2018

I've just arrived home from a reunion weekend at this hotel. My room was poor. The shower was very very hot and I was unable to turn it cooler. I had to report it twice before it was fixed. The Sky tv didn't work. The curtains were hanging off the track. The room was very dated too. The bed was very hard, nearly impossible to sleep on. The food though was superb throughout our stay.

Emily L, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Stafford M6/J14 Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Guest I am really sorry that you had issues with your bedroom, however thank you for providing us with your feedback from your recent reunion. Unfortunately we cannot pre-empt maintenance issues occurring we can only resolve them when they occur. I understand that your problems were resolved as quickly as possible and have now been dealt with. This is very helpful as we can make sure these problems do not occur for future guests. On a positive note I am very happy to hear that you enjoyed the food served throughout your stay. Kind Regards Emily Lewis Guest Service Manager

"Average "

23/02/2018

Stayed 1 night on business. Hotel is average and in need of a good overhaul / refurb. I was greeted by a friendly member of staff who checked me in and directed me to my room swiftly. My room (309) was tired and the late 80's style was a bit shabby. One very good bonus was the room had it's own sky box receiver albeit screwed rather awkwardly to the side of the unit, which was a little weird. Dinner was fine but nothing special. I slept really well with no disturbances. Breakfast was self service full English which was really nice but not a lot of other choices for other appetites. All in a middle of the road hotel.

Emily L, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Stafford M6/J14 Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Jason Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your experience at our hotel. It is great to hear you enjoyed having sky TV in your room and your stay was comfortable. I am sorry you felt our décor was a little dated, we are improving our hotel in the near future. Kind Regards Emily Lewis Guest Service Manager

"3 star nice breakfast"

18/02/2018

This is a 3 star hotel and not trying to be anything more. We had a great offer, 2 nights 2 people full English both days and bottle house wine for £99. This alone gives no room for a moan. Good location 1.6 miles from Stafford town centre and near to m6 or a34 roads. Large free car park. Dog friendly. Excellent buffet English breakfast. Clean and tidy. Rooms are outdated; carpet threadbare in places, the house keeping staff didn't bother cleaning cups in 216 or 217. Didn't replace plastic cups in bathroom. Would we stay here again? At that price most definatly and we would pay slightly more. It's accessible and close to nearby shops

Emily L, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Stafford M6/J14 Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Hello Jacqueline Thank you for your review. We appreciate your lovely comments regarding your stay. You received a great offer and I'm very happy that you enjoyed your stay. Improvements are planned to upgrade parts of the hotel in the near future, including our carpets. I do hope you stay again after our refurbishments have been completed. I booked a conference room for a half day LinkedIn workshop and everything went swimmingly well. The room (Queens Suite) was lovely. When I walked in the room looked superb (See photo), which gives a great and important first impression of both me and the hotel. The staff were great, friendly and helpful, and the refreshments ordered were bang on time, and hot! Will definitely be using it again and would thoroughly recommend it to others.

"Tired & in need of updating. "

28/01/2018

12 of us arrived after a long day to check in and then find that one of our rooms, which was booked as double, was a twin when went to it. One of the other rooms, booked as an executive suite, smelt terribly of cigarette smoke, room moved, two more times and a bottle of wine compensation later we were all sorted in our rooms. Despite the rooms being wrong, the staff were so polite and helpful. The rooms themselves are very tired, need grout replacing, wood fixtures worn and need replacing. I think there had been screw on knobs on the bedhead at some point, one side has a screw for where the knob would have been attached. We ate at the hotel restaurant and whilst some of our meals were good and all arrived together, 2 of us ordered chicken wrapped in bacon from the bistro menu. It arrived at least 5 minutes after all the others, which wouldn't have been too bad if it had been great. Sadly it was annihilated. The chicken was so over cooked it had a leathery suntan and was too dry, the bacon wrapped round it might as well have been rawhide! After waiting and everyone else nearly having finished I just ate the best part of it, leaving the rest. Again, despite this, we couldn't fault the restaurant staff and their attention to drinks and any extra touches were spot on. Rating given based on staff, not as much so the hotel.

Emily L, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Stafford M6/J14 Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear guest Please accept my apology for the confusion at check in. I am glad that our staff were helpful to get your problems sorted quickly. Your comments regarding your food are very displeasing to hear and please be assured that I will look into this. I am sorry that you did not experience our usual high level of service. Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback and thank you for your lovely comments of our staff. Kind Regards Emily Lewis Guest Service Manager

We did a quick stopover on 27th January .. 4 friends two rooms and we cannot fault this hotel. We had a good deal, so good price for room and breakfast included. Very clean and well appointed rooms , bit warm for us , but we opened the window , pretty quiet as well to say not far from J14 and breakfast was lovely .. suited all of us from the cooked breakfast to my healthy option .

"Christmas calamaties"

21/01/2018

Where to start. I booked the non-inclusive party night for early December, for 14 guest, with 3 double rooms for myself and two other couples. I booked Tillington Hall after having a lovely time the previous year at the same type of evening. Before I had even arrived, I had a call from one of the other guests to say that reception had no room booked for them. This happened with all 3 rooms I had booked, despite sending confirmation by email. Check in took at least 15 minutes for each room. After a quick drink in the bar, we moved to the party room for our non-inclusive party night (non-inclusive being a dinner dance but not with drinks included), only to find that we had been seated in the drinks inclusive party as there were low numbers for the non-inclusive. The drinks on offer, which we had to pay hotel prices for, were standard beers, cheap spirits and possibly the worst wine it has ever been my misfortune to taste. Added to this was the pleasure of being brusquely informed by a barman, that I could only order two drinks at a time and having the inclusive drinks rules sign banged down in front of me, despite the fact that I was a paying customer. After a couple of hours and a below average meal (some were cold and none were particularly well cooked, with some inedible) and music aimed seemingly solely at the 20-30 crowd, the guests who stuck it out, only because we were staying, retired to the bar for some real drinks. My wife retiring early as she had to leave for work early the next morning. When I got to our room, it was to find a flooded bathroom, due to a faulty tap that was leaking and a duvet that was actually smaller than the bed. As it was after 2am and my wife had to be up early, I decided against complaining right away as the disruption would have been too great. After a poor breakfast I checked out and reported the leak to reception, to inadvertently find out that the same issue had happened in other rooms as I was asked if I was in a certain room which was not the one I was staying in. On the Monday following I detailed all the above points in an email to the person with whom I had made the booking, copying in the head of guest services. A week later I received a very unsatisfactory reply, apologising for the mix up with the room booking, telling me that it was my fault for not complaining about the room in the middle of the night and basically they didn't care that we did not get the night we had payed for. I had hoped to get some resolution from the hotel, but they clearly don't care about their guests experience. I will not be entertaining or staying at this venue again and will advise family, friends and colleagues not to either. Well done Tillington, great job!

We were greeted warmly, room basic but very clean, staff pleasant and helpful. lBreakfast was adequate, self service , usual cereals etc and limited hot foods. There is a chain restaurant just next door and a Chinese restaurant and take away which we used and the food was good. Big downer for us was the £20 we had to pay for our dog. Much more than we usually pay and is the reason we won't use this hotel again. Big shame as it was really convenient for a one night stop in every other way.

Now don't get me wrong, for the money you pay it's a decent stay. We only stayed one night & found the bed comfortable, however the same couldn't be said for the pillows - rather hard. The towels in the bathroom - lovely, however they were placed so high up I couldn't reach them & my husband who thankfully is 6ft4in had to lift them down for me. Breakfast could have been better, the other half said his scrambled egg tasted as though it was made with powdered egg (should've stuck to bacon butties). HOWEVER the staff are absolutely wonderful, they are pleasant & courteous & nothing is too much trouble. Would I stay again?... Yes, but I'd take my own pillow.

Emily L, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Stafford M6/J14 Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Guest, Firstly, please accept my apology for your stay not being as good as expected. I am sorry you didn't like our scrambled eggs but please be assured that they are not from powdered egg, they are made fresh daily. I will pass on your comments about the towels being too high to our housekeeping manager and see if we can make improvements for future guests. On a positive note, I am very happy to hear our staff were friendly and helpful throughout your stay. I do have your experience will not deter you from staying with us again. kind Regards Emily Lewis Guest Service Manager

We stayed for 3 nights on a linedance break - the rooms were warm cosy and clean. All the staff were friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. The food was great, good portions and lots of choice, which is good as I am a vegetarian. Lots of free parking and only a 25 minute walk to the centre of Stafford. Lovely location with lots of open land set away from the main road. Excellent stay and hope to go back again

"Xmas lunch "

28/12/2017

Well what can I say about Xmas day at this hotel , we arrived at the reception to be greeted by nobody , we had to find our own way to the complementary Buck's Fizz , when we did see the table that was meant to be serving it there was nothing but dirty empty glasses on it . We then waited to be seated for what seemed like a good 10 minutes when we eventually caught the eye of a waitress she walked over and said “ your table is over there by the window “ so we all walked over sat down and within 2 minutes we were served our mains , which were wrong and also cold , and also strange how child portions were save size as adults although a £36 difference in price . The mains were the same cold and all the same size , not once was we asked if everything was ok nor did they ask if we wanted drinks, when a waitress did come over I asked her about portion sizes she just said it's easier for chef , by this time we was all getting a bit fed up , we were told our deserts would be out soon , half hour later they came , again cold and my creme brûlée was cold sloppy custard served in a lasagna dish , although they knocked the drinks off our bill which wasn't many as we always had to shout a waitress to fetch us some we was all very disappointed from start to finish

"Christmas Dinner"

1
21/12/2017

I was really looking forward to a great Christmas dinner with a group of friends and colleagues last night, but the standard of the food certaintly was very disappointing. My meal was terrible, it was so bad, I sent it back to the kitchen untouched and decided if this was the best food the hotel could offer me then don't even bother with providing me with any replacement, I wanted to have a good Christmas not having my head stuck in a toilet for the duration. I had the festive Christmas Fayre where I decided to have the baked fillet of cod for my main course. The accompaning Chantenay carrots looked very dirty and overcooked, my French beans had what appeared to be mouldy bits on them, with dried up ends, again looked overcooked and the fish had a slight off smelly to it, and greasy finger prints all around the plate, resembling a crime scene. Now you would of thought that if a customer returned a complete plate of food untouched, the hotel management would have responded to this, but there was no response. The duty manager was helping to clear our table, so I spoke to him about my meal and showed him the photo, he said he would have a word with the chef. He never came back to me, how poor is that, the guy shouldn't be in this industry if he can't handle customer complaints properly, had he dealt with the complaint correctly I wouldn't have to inform the world on this forum. Now, I have worked previously in hotel management, I was a former chef-lecturer for 6 years, so I fully understand that there is a shortage of good chefs out there, but there is no excuse for sending out poor quality food like this and certaintly not at what is suppose to be a quality Best Western hotel. Very disappointing!

Emily L, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Stafford M6/J14 Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Guest I myself was the person who you gave your meal back too. I offered you an alternative, however you did not allow me to rectify the problem. Unfortunately there was a delay in food being served as there was an unexpected quiz happening at the time and when I asked the event organiser if I could serve I was told to wait 10 minutes. As you can imagine we tried our best to keep the food fresh, however we was not informed beforehand to hold the food back. Please accept my apology for your food not being of the standard you expected and that the manager did not return to apologise. I can assure you that throughout the evening we did not have any other complaints regarding our food. I do hope you will consider visiting us again so that we can have another chance to provide you with a superior service. Kind Regards Emily Lewis Guest Service Manager

14/11/2017

Stayed Friday & Saturday as was on a training course close by. Hotel was easy to find , plenty of parking space. We got there just as the restaurant was closing but the girl on reception told us and advised us , so we went straight in and she put our bags in the office . Food was very nice but wasn't a fan of the house red . I had a glass of Merlot off the wine menu the next night and much more to my taste . Breakfast is a buffet type but was pretty good. The restaurant itself seemed a bit uninspiring, but found the food was good. The room we had was quite hot so we ended up with the window open but bed comfy if not huge and bathroom / shower was good. Overall, yes the hotel itself was a bit dated but good value made all the better because the staff were all very friendly and helpful .

Emily L, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Stafford M6/J14 Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Richard Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review of your experience of your stay. It is great to hear reception were helpful and you were able to eat in our restaurant. "Cold, old and generally depressing!"

2
13/11/2017

The rooms is freezing because they're clearly too tight to upgrade to double glazing - you can actually feel a draft where the cold air is coming in - not great in November. Radiator is on full blast and I'm in a fleece under the duvet. Décor is so old and depressing, was looking forward to bath but it looks grubby and it's too cold anyway. The food is poor quality (burnt burger, weird tasting sticky toffee pudding), wine tasted like it's been open for about a week. The one saving grace is that the staff are generally nice and friendly although the man I complained to about the room seemed rather annoyed.

Emily L, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Stafford M6/J14 Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Guest, Thank you for your comments in regard to heating in the bedroom. The hotel owners are not too tight to buy double glazing the glazing is existing glazing to the property. I am surprised that you were still cold in your room with the heating on full. We do have additional blankets and extra heating options for our guests that feel the cold. In regard to your burger I see no comments logged against your booking that you had issue to send the burger back, and no issue with the sticky toffee pudding. I have sent your comments to our Head Chef for further checking. In regard to your comment regarding wine which wine is it that your ordered? Can you get in touch and let us know? We do not have wine on site that is left open for a week. I would like to go back to our supplier to check the batch that was used to ensure we do not have issues in the future. Again thank you for your comments. Kind Regards Emily Lewis Guest Service Manager

"Good hotel let down by poor service and food in the restaurant"

01/11/2017

We were part od a coach group( 43 people ) staying at the hotel 27th to 29th October last.Bedroom was good. old-fashioned but very clean. The big let-down was the food and patchy service in the dining room.On arrival, we were requested to inform reception of our menu selections ( 3 courses ) for the 2 nights. The first evening. a number of us were kept waiting quite a long time for our selected dessert ( cheesecake and ice-cream ) which eventually came almost frozen. The second evening was even worse The popular selection was roast chicken which was very tough ( probably steamed not roasted ) .I and another guest were not served until other people on our table had finished eating and the chicken was inedlble..Finally , our dessert of apple crumble was served, eventually followed separately by custard. Bearing in mind all food had been pre-orderd ,the dining experience was one which I wouldn`t like to experience again , hence the poor overall rating.

The hotel was very clean, food good, staff excellent very helpful and friendly. Bed comfortable there was everything we needed for a short break. Would stay again if in the area. For the price we paid we had excellent value.

"Disappointing attitude from reception staff and cold rooms too"

29/10/2017

Booked this hotel for a Alton towers two day pass and stated 10 miles away. Arrived at the hotel with my daughter and 8 yr old grandson at 2.50 to be told the room wasn't available yet. As we had been driving over two hours we were ready to refresh before driving the ten miles to Alton towers for the 1st day of the spooky Halloween activities. When I asked the receptionist how long the room would be she rang through and told me about 15-20 mins. I was disappointed and she made me feel as though it was my fault for booking a family room due to having to place a guest bed in there. As soon as people speak to me like that I find it extremely rude and unprofessional and I advised her that the hotel knew we were arriving as not a last minute booking and so went downhill from there. As she had already given us key for 304, she received a call to inform us that the room was ready. She didn't offer to tell us where the room was or which floor and where the breakfast room was. Extremely unpolite and offhand and definitely shouldn't be on front line with such an attitude and ease to be so rude. We then expected a short journey to Alton towers and it was over 45minutes drive away each way and 23 + miles not the 10 the hotel claimed. We arrived back at the hotel to a cold room that had no temperature gauge which was very disappointing so overall it was below average. We ordered breakfast to the room at a reasonable charge of £2.50 and I did inform superbreak about the problems with the staff and misleading distance to Alton towers but as yet no response back but I will chase up. Breakfast was good quality and standard, tea was a little cold and stewed and my grandsons hash brown was burnt and hidden under his eggs that he had to leave. When I plan anything for my family I feel as though I have let them down bringing them to anywhere that is substandard in any way and so I felt the hotel staff set the way the stay went and cold in all aspects.

Emily L, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Stafford M6/J14 Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Guest I have investigated your comments about our hotel not being located as close to Alton Towers as expected. As you booked through an Agent I believe this comment is for them as this information was from their website. I have now contacted this agent to give them the correct details. I am very disappointed to hear one of our members of staff were rude. This is not our usual high level of customer service so please accept my sincere apology. I have been informed you arrived at the hotel before check in time, and as we do try and make our bedrooms available as quickly as possible yours wasn't quite ready due to being busy the night before. I do hope you understand our housekeeping team work very hard to make every guests stay enjoyable. I am very pleased to hear your enjoyed breakfast as a whole but please accept my apology for the tea and hash brown. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review of your experience. It is through feedback such as yours that we can make improvements for future guests. Kind regards Emily Lewis Guest Service Manager

This hotel offers a great service at a reasonable price. Helpful and friendy staff, sky sports in the rooms , BT and Sky sport in the bar. Great location for the M6, excellent food both in the bar and in the restaurant.

Booked this hotel as part of a deal with Alton Towers tickets as it was described as “15 minutes from Alton Towers”. Well no it's not - it's 45 mins down some of the worst country roads. Hotel itself needs a total refurb. Room was clean but rundown looking & stifling hot even with the window open, heating turned down & in middle of October! Restaurant food was good for evening meals but the included buffet breakfast was dire. Toast was all we could eat on second morning having sampled the cooked breakfast the day before. Tasted like it had been out all night, rubbery & over cooked. The restaurant had slug trails all around the carpet under the windows, spider webs in every window & a few spiders that climbed over us while we were eating. Thread bare carpets in reception & the bar which has the least amount of choice of spirits ever. Would not recommend if you are planning on spending time in your hotel but ideal for sleeping in.

Emily L, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Stafford M6/J14 Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Erin Thank you for your comments, I would be interested in who told you the hotel was only 15 minutes away from Alton Towers as we advertise on all our websites that we are 45 minutes away. If you have read this elsewhere this may not be the place for this comment. I am sorry that the drinks stocked in our bar were not enough for you. We stock all major brands of all spirits as well as house spirits. The hotel owners have planned a full refurbishment of the public area in early 2018. I am sorry that you felt the rooms were of a poor standard considering they were refurbished in 2013. I disagree that we have slug trails on the carpets or issues with spiders in the restaurant, after all there are no other mention of this in any other reviews. Kind Regards Emily Lewis Guest Service Manager

A lovely setting with great access to the motorway. Room was spotlessly clean and comfortable and breakfast was a good standard. The only thing that let the place down was the check in and bar service. The check in was very lacklustre with no information given beyond here is your keycard. I had to ask where the room was. I popped into the bar in the evening and I had to go find someone to serve me which took a few attempts to actually find any member of staff. I later rang reception to order room service to be told that I should have set up a tab at the bar or I could pay cash. As I had no cash and was already in my pyjamas I went without. The option to set up a room service tab should be part of check in. Or details given in the information booklet in the room. This really let down my stay after a long day working.

Emily L, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Stafford M6/J14 Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Guest Thank you for contacting us and leaving your feedback about your recent stay. The comments you made about your check in should be done by the receptionist. Please accept my apology that you wasn't given the full information. We will use your email as a training tool for the individual that didn't follow procedure. I will also investigate why you wasn't able to find a member of staff when you visited our bar area. On a positive note, I am happy to hear you liked our location and bedroom. It is great to hear you had a comfortable stay. Kind Regards Emily Lewis Guest Service Manager

Just stayed the one night.Staff were top notch and couldn't fault any aspects here.Room was spotless and Sky TV on tap. Bar kept open most of the night. Function room was large a spacious. Food....breakfast was good with lots of choices and so was our function meal in the evening. There was a problem with some food the day before for some of my friends who'd stayed 2 nights. Roast potatoes with fish ....seriously ! But...my stay was good.

"Afternoon tea was shocking"

2
26/09/2017

We live near here so didn't stay over but booked an Afternoon Tea for a large group to celebrate a friends baby shower. Because of the number of people they didn't bring out the traditional cake stands holding all the food for a couple of people but set it all out on separate plates. There wasn't enough food for the amount of people, especially when two people were vegetarians and there was only one vegetarian sandwich option. Out of all the cakes, only two slices were the cheesecake to go around 23 people. Even though the party was booked in advance, there was only one lad serving us. Rather than ask what tea or coffee we wanted, he came around with two canisters. One tea and one coffee. I asked if there was decaf tea and he said no. This is strange in the first place but for a baby shower, surely they would realise there is at least one pregnant lady and she might not want caffeine. All in all a pretty poor performance. There was no one else there on a Saturday afternoon so I think this speaks volumes.

12/09/2017

Stayed one night, hotel booked by work. Very comfortable and clean single room. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful, from reception to the bar and breakfast waiting staff. One notable example of good service was from a pretty dark haired lady with glasses on reception. Upon overhearing that I had forgotten my toothbrush, she produced a disposable set unprompted. Did not eat dinner but cooked breakfast was a good standard. Would happily stay again.

You can have dogs in your room but you are not allowed them anywhere that food is served. So if you are planning on eating somewhere with your dog I suggest the bar area in the shire horse pub down the road.

Emily L, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Stafford M6/J14 Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Guest, We are a hotel that is extremely dog friendly and allow dogs into our hotel, however we have to take into consideration other guests that are not dog lovers like we are. We do not allow dogs in areas where other guests may be eating for hygiene reasons. I do apologise that you were told otherwise however we do try to allow dogs in the bar area if there are no other guests around. We do have a decking area where dogs are allowed and there is a large field in front of the hotel for dog walking. I do hope you visit us again as we do love having dogs stay with us. We found the Best Western, Stafford, adequate in all respects -- cleanliness, comfort, furnishings, and location; the breakfast was also adequate, and staff were friendly and helpful. It is also very reasonably priced at L75 per night for two, and conveniently located just off the M6 motorway. We would not hesitate to stay there again.

01/09/2017

I'd have liked to give the hotel 3.5 stars but I felt 'Average' was closer than 'Very Good'. The hotel is just off the M6 on the west side of Stafford. It has a long driveway leading to a very large car parking area and there is a nice open space with trees at the front of the hotel. The car park is suitable for larger vans as well. Could be useful information. The reception area looks good and the staff were professional and helpful. I saw staff cleaning at various times and they were being thorough. It was nice to see a hotel being maintained well having recently stayed at a hotel where it looked like they'd given up! I had booked a 'superior double room' at a rate of £85 per night including breakfast at short notice. I wouldn't describe the room as being superior in terms of size, decor or bed quality but then £85 isn't superior price. The bed wasn't great but the room was generally OK. Breakfast was OK. I've certainly had better and I think no poached or fried eggs and no rustic breads were disappointments.

Emily L, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Stafford M6/J14 Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Guest, I am happy to hear our staff were helpful and you liked the reception area. We booked a last minute stay for a trip to Alton Towers. Family of 4 including breakfast for £100. Bargain! The extra beds in the room were a good size and pretty comfortable, although it made the room feel slightly cramped The only noise heard from our room was from a couple of inconsiderate guests shoutings in the corridors Breakfast was great Staff were very friendly and welcoming, would definitely stay here again

24/08/2017

Breakfast is probably the best meal but that is very ordinary. Service average, rooms lower than average but OK for work or conference, Yet again, an English hotel where they do not make tea properly ... or at least one member of staff doesn't and a receptionist who needs training on handling a complaint about tea!

08/08/2017

Easy on-off from M6 in Stafford, with comfortable rooms (BW members can get upgrades to nicer rooms). Restaurant has a good menu for dinner - breakfast is buffet style, which means scrambled eggs are a little gooey and food can get "old" or over steamed quickly. Staff are helpful and prices overall are very reasonable. Good value for the price

Planned to visit Ironbridge, which we did and enjoyed it greatly, but hotels in Telford booked up. Stafford not far away and Tillington Hall was excellent. Friendly and helpful staff, nice room, good food and in a pleasant quiet location. Lots to see and do in the Stafford area as well as in Coalbrookdale. The hotel is obviously quite popular with travellers also, being very conveniently placed for the motorway. A good find.

Really enjoyed our stay at Tillington Hall. The staff were excellent and went out of their way to accomodate our requests. Comfortable beds, lovely shower, plenty of clean towels, fan and even had an iron and board. Enjoyed the biscuits with hot drinks provided in our room. Stayed to be close to the showground for a conference as its only about 10 minutes drive away. Booked early and got great rates, would do it again next year.

"A Great Place to Escape to"

20/07/2017

Catching up with my daughter before she headed off to live in China, I thought the Tillington would be a great place for us to chill together without three dogs demanding attention. I chose well and we had a wonderful time. What makes this hotel so good? Firstly, the staff. I say again, the staff. Professional, friendly, not in your face and the KEY point of difference about this hotel. Other plus points: the rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable; the hotel is conveniently located near M6 but tucked away from main road with space around; inside, that space is replicated with a decent terrace and lots of places to sit and relax; and finally, the food is good - breakfast absolutely stunning, bar snacks good value and well presented. Other reviews mention that this hotel is a bit 'tired'. Well, it is. But I'd rather have a comfy armchair that's been well lived in than a stark modern chair that hurts your bum. Prices reflect this - not quite a Holiday Inn but much more enjoyable than a HI Express. All in all, a fantastic escape, made all the better because the people who work there seem happy to do so and are keen to offer great service with a smile.

03/07/2017

We had been away for a few days visiting family and arrived at Tillington Hall as the last part of our trip as we wished to visit Boscobel House, Shugborough Hall and The National Memorial Arboretum. Our room was pleasant with comfortable twin beds (that was all that was available when I booked). All staff were polite and friendly, plenty of choice at self-service breakfast, evening meals were good (apart from an overcooked Haddock). The hotel is looking a little tired in places, but really does that matter, this is three star not The Ritz! Would definitely stay again if we are visiting the area as we enjoyed our visit.

"Weekend Stay"

4
03/07/2017

We stayed at Tillington Hall for a two night weekend stay. The hotel itself looks nice enough on approach - a decent sized car park and plentry of spaces. Check in was fairly slow, although there were quite a few people and the receptionist was working as fast as she could with a confusing group booking in front of us. The decor throughout the hotel looks a little tired although it was all clean. Our room was on the ground floor and the window opened on to a small courtyard. The room was basic but clean, as was the bathroom. We had a lovely big shower with plenty of hot water. All the staff were attentive and helpful. The breakfasts were good - however I would recommend going in earlier rather than later as we went in at about 0930 on the Sunday and it seemed that the hot food had been out a little while. We ordered a bar snack in the evening and it was really good food. We didnt use the main restaurant for an evening meal so I cannot comment on the quality of the main menu. One downside was that the staff all seemed to disappear in the evening and if you wanted serving at the bar you had to wait ages, or even go to reception and use the phone to call for service. Also, some of the staff were smoking outside the main entrance which seemed a little odd. All in all, it was a good stay, and fair value for money.

Emily L, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Stafford M6/J14 Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Guest Thank you for your review, your feedback is very important to helping us improve our hotel and services. I will investigate the matter of staff disappearing in the evening in our bar and restaurant as well as why staff were smoking outside the main entrance. Please accept my apology as this is not our standard practice as they have a designated staff smoking area. I am pleased to hear you enjoyed the rest of your stay. "Avoid, dingy, dirty, poorly trained staff and a place to avoid"

27/06/2017

We booked two rooms, we were told these rooms were family rooms, we arrived and one room was dirty and smelly, we asked the manager/supervisor to come and take a look. The room was a double and not a family room. She cleaned the dead flies from the windowsill. The window looked out on to a wire fence that had been cut open presumably after a previous break-in or similar. A lovely view in other words.... The second room was slightly better but had a strange smell and there was mould inside the shower. When we complained at checkout they didn't really apologise and when I questioned the room sizes etc they said that was normal and all rooms could become family rooms... So why did we still have to pay full price? We were in a rush and they wouldn't budge so we begrudgingly paid. I'm yet to ring head office and complain and get my money back but I will be doing that tomorrow. The restaurant food was good but overpriced and the menus looked like they were from a cafe/diner and not where they charge £20 for a rump steak. The bar staff were friendly and good.

We stayed for one Saturday night on breakfast and dinner basis. Room was clean and adequate. Staff were all very friendly and accommodating and made for a good experience, especially the young girl on reception when we left who helped us with our descrepency of the bill. I agree with other comments that some of the areas need a bit of updating especially chairs and tables in dining room which look tired. Food was great both from the bar menu and bistro. Dinner was from either menu and didn't seem to be any restrictions. Especially enjoyed the chicken wings as starter moist with a lovely crispy skin. Then we both had one of the fish dishes and good portions, no room for dessert. Breakfast was hot or cold buffet with a good choice of coffees from the machine or choice of teas. Would happily stay again.

I stayed here for one night. The hotel itself really needs an upgrade, the rooms modernising and the mattress need replacing. Mine was so lumpy and dipped! HOWEVER... I have to staff the staff were so polite and friendly. It's not often you go somewhere these days and all the staff are polite and friendly. I cannot fault the customer service of this hotel... Nothing was to much of a problem for the staff. They clearly work very hard and they should all be proud. The hotel was also very very clean which was a big bonus considering the rooms were tired. I couldn't find a spot of dirt anywhere so the cleaners must be fab! Overall I wouldn't stay here for more than one night- it's a hotel for a short stop over- this due to the hotel needing a physical revamp! Best western need to invest in this one as their staff are second to none! Also must mention the food was delicious- clearly freshly cooked and served with care. Thank you

Recently stayed at BW Tillington Hall. Loved the stay. Arrived at Heathrow Airport on a Wednesday morning and took a train to Stafford Station, then from the station, a cab to the hotel which took around 5 to 10 mins costing between GBP5 to GBP8. It was quite easy to use the public transportation (we did not rent a car) but if unsure if you can just ask the station staff around to assist. There is a laundromat, mini super mart and chemist near the hotel. It was a very peaceful stay for us coupled with the lovely cool weather. The cool weather enabled us to walk from the hotel to the city centre and back. It was great exercise. It took us around 30 to 45 mins. The hotel definitely was well maintained. The room was clean and the bed really comfortable. It was quiet in the surrounding area and very ideal for relaxing. We felt so rested each morning. The availability of a desk top computer was useful. The staff at front desk and in the restaurant where breakfast, lunch and dinner were served was extremely friendly and helpful. Love the breakfast too. Sufficient choices and one can order how one would like the eggs done from the kitchen. For me, this hotel is ideal for any form of celebrations, not just wedding as it has such a lovely ambience. They have a wedding presentation coming up at the hotel in June 2017. We will be back to stay in this hotel. Thumbs up!

We stayed here as part of a group of 25 on a charity bike ride. The staff were so helpful when we checked in after a long day cycling. They arranged the safe securing of all our bikes and the rooms were clean and tidy. The only downside was the hot water in our room wasn't the greatest. The breakfast was great value for money too. Really clean and tidy hotel.

Stayed two nights in a typical single room, top of the house, back of the house, small and dingy but clean. Mattress had more peaks and troughs than the Pennine Way. Hotel itself in dire need of an upgrade in all areas. Seating in bar a mish mash of the most uncomfortable chairs I have ever come across. Had a bar snack first evening, food obviously re heated and appeared cooked in old fat. Second evening went to Dining room for Dinner at 6.30 pm and left at 6.50pm as no one appeared to take my order, I was the only person in Restaurant- apparently the waitress was busy and would appear soon!! Never again shall I set foot over the threshold xx

Stayed here for a week while training in work. Couldn't go wrong to be fair.. SKY SPORTS IN THE ROOM. AWESOME! Staff were friendly the room was spotless and very spacious. The bathroom was immaculate. The food was fantastic for me and it wasn't the same menu every night!

Dear Guest, Thank you for your glowing review. I am glad to hear you enjoyed having sky sports in your room. I will pass on all your lovely comments to each department, I am sure they will be very happy to receive such positive feedback. Kind Regards Emily Lewis Guest Service Manager

"HMS Collingwood reunion"

04/05/2017

Arriving PM 28/4 we were greeted a smiling and friendly reception staff, our rooms had already been allocated so the formalities took only a couple of minutes. We had a ground floor twin room aesily accessed, clean, comfortable and warm. A fairly spacious bathroom with a large shower cubicle, we requested this as my wife cannot get into a bath. If she does she cannot get out again. The three nights dinners we had where a gourmets delight, not to big, tasty and hot and well presented by a friendly and efficient staff. There was a buffet breakfast with a good selection of items to pick from. If you found fried eggs or porridge preferable you only had to ask and it was brought to your table. The only downside we encountered was the television in the rooms, it appeared to be a Sky system with a procedure to go through to get a programme. This was a bit of a minefield for we "Oldies" used to switching on and pressing a button for the channel required. The sky numbering system differs from the usual format most of us use. All of the staff where very helpful and very efficient, always bright and smiling. Everyone agreed this was one the best reunions we have had for quite awhile. There is a bus stop just outside the hotel if you fancy a trip into Stafford which is only two or three minutes away,

Emily L, Guest Relations Manager at Best Western Stafford M6/J14 Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. I am very pleased to hear that the staff looked after you and you received such a good experience at our hotel. I apologise about the sky in the rooms, it is a little difficult to use if you are not used to it. I do hope you visit us again on a reunion or individually. Kind regards Emily Lewis Guest Service Manager

Booked a dog friendly room for my partners parents and 2 dogs. 24 hours before arrival said they could only accomodate the humans. This left no other option but to spend money for kennels. At that late stage what option could we choose. No offer of compensation, and we were certainly not going to ask. Dog friendly!!! Pfffft! BEWARE.

Very convenient position from the M6 motorway. Helpful, friendly staff, comfortable and quiet room. Choice of food very good and plentiful both in the restaurant in the evening and at breakfast. Would stay there again.

I stayed for the Easter week end Nice hotel and welcome staff Clean room and good buffet for breakfast . I had really nice dinner, with a good selection of wine and an amazing creme brûlé with a stunning orange sorbet I'll come back for sure

14/04/2017

Stayed here for 3 nights for business. Rooms were comfortable, spacious and clean. With the added bonus of Sky TV in your room! Breakfast had a wide range of choices and the restaurant served good food in the evenings, with reasonable prices. Plenty of free parking available, which was handy. The hotel is near Stafford town centre and the M6. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Would stay again.

"Dreadnaught reunion weekend."

11/04/2017

We have just spent an enjoyable weekend break at the Best Western Tillingham Hall Hotel in Stafford. This was a Dreadnaught reunion ( submariners who had served on this boat). The hotel was welcoming the staff helpful, food good and the accommodation was excellent. Plenty of car parking space. Handy for Stafford and surrounding areas. We visited Trentham shopping village and Gardens and on to the Wedgewood Factory. Would certainly recommend this Hotel.

"Better than anticipated!"

Stayed for a naval reunion and was pleasantly surprised. Convenient location and although it was pretty standard hotel, the food was actually excellent, the room spotless and the staff helpful, friendly and nice, particularly the waiting staff at our meals. Well done.

10/04/2017

Visited this Hotel for Royal Navy reunion weekend organised by IOW tours on half board basis. We had exclusive use of our own bar with reduced prices and a private dining room for Dinner. A substantial buffet breakfast was available in the main restaurant. Well appointed rooms as one would expect for a 3 star hotel with the added bonus of sky tv with sports and movies. A paper shop, betting shop and public house 5mins walk away. Within an hour of the National Aboretum and the Potteries. I am sure the Association will use this hotel again.

"Good place to stay"

08/04/2017

I booked here as a stopover on a drive home and chose it due to its price. The hotel really impressed me as it's a beautiful building that has been tastefully decorated with its period features well maintained. The room was lovely and the bathroom is very spacious! I strongly advise you to get the breakfast as well as it is great! There is so much choice of food and for a great price! This is a really good place to stay and is up to the usual high standards of the Best Western hotel chain

"Mother's Day "

05/04/2017

After having a lovely Christmas Day here for the last 2 years we asked partner's mum where she would like to go for Mother's Day She chose The Tillington Hotel There was a table for 8 of us and a variety of dishes ordered from each course Everything was cooked perfectly and we all enjoyed a lovely family meal together Would highly recommend this place for any family occasion Thank you to all the staff who work so hard to help make our celebrations special xx

"Good Hotel Room"

27/11/2016

Overall I would stay here again, the only issue is that the wifi was complex to get onto on my laptop, meant I had to use my phone wifi but mainly because I didn't want to have to go downstairs to ask for help so not entirely the fault of the hotel. Food in the restaurant was good, mixed grill was my order and didn't get asked how I wanted my steak cooked but it was good nonetheless (I would definitely use less 'garnishing' on the plate if I was the chef) all in all good value and much better priced than other hotels locally, will stay here again!

"Good Location"

07/11/2016

Best Western loyalty card does not really amount to much ie automatic upgrade. One was obtained but on request not through he card itself. Staff pleasant dining choices limited on deals wild mushrooms difficult to cut impossible to eat? would be reported no feedback. Breakfast usual buffet few residents on first day why not just cook? Second day lots more residents one member of staff in working like a Trojan. Asked for boiled egg at least it was hot. Pllows in room like lead totally ruined sleep next day requested further 'soft' pillow another lead balloon provided. However overall package very reasonable so need to consider balance and cost. Plenty of hot water and good room heating.

"Overnight stay."

04/11/2016

Staff were great but the place needs a good painting and up grading in some places. Great location of Junc 14 for the M6. Very busy. No BT sport in the hotel so couldn't watch the European Football. I wouldn't expect it in the room but it should be on in the bar area. loads of business watching the scores and results on there phones.

"Warm and welcoming like a pair of your favourite slippers."

Driving down Eccleshall Road, I was not expecting a lot, however I was pleasantly surprised as the turn into the hotel opened up into expansive grounds. The driveway to the hotel (approximately 100 metres) has two speed restriction humps but a rather badly maintained road surface before the first hump had a nasty hole. This cannot be seen in the dark so be careful. The was welcomed by a pleasant receptionist who processed my booking efficiently and explained the restaurant times etc. The place was warm which was pleasing given that the evening had become quite chilly. I was on the second floor in the main building but did not notice a lift, so had to walk up the stairs. Any visitors with mobility issues should check in advance to ensure their needs can be met. The room was clean and tidy with a four poster bed and SKY sattelite TV, The bathroom was large with a bath / shower combination. The room had no air conditioning (that I could find) and did get uncomfortably warm during the night. Although I wasn't to that hungry so only had something from the bar menu. I had the best French Onion soup I have ever tasted (perhaps I haven't had too many examples) but it was delicious. The drinks were reasonably priced for a hotel and the service was friendly and efficient. All in all, enjoyed my visit and would not hesitate in recommending this hotel to anyone.

"Great food and staff"

25/10/2016

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights as a family of 4. We booked this along with tickets for Alton Towers as a package online. Alton towers was a 40 min drive so you might be able to get a hotel closer. When we arrived in the first night we ate in the restaurant and the food was amazing with great choice and great value. The steak was cooked to perfection. Every night there seemed to be different staff but I can't fault any of them all friendly and helpful. Due to the service and food being so good we ate in there all three nights. The buffet breakfast us also brilliant all fresh and hot and the sausages are lovely. The only thing we did notice was that people were allowed dogs to stay in the hotel. Although this didn't bother us it may bother other people with allergies etc.

"Not the best "

3
19/10/2016

Stayed for one night-Saturday 15th. Room average and bed was comfortable. Our wall lights weren't working and reported it to reception on our way out. When we returned just after midnight we found the door hadn't been closed properly- who ever had been to sort our lights had not pulled the door shut. Just thankful no other guests had noticed. After all that only one light had been sorted. Breakfast wasn't very appetising. Won't be returning. Have stayed in other Best Western and had no issues.

"In need of a makeover "

2
18/10/2016

Stayed here with work and the rooms are in definite need of a makeover. Decor very 70's. We ate as a group of 15 or so and the meal was average at best. Those who had steak complained of the toughness and the desserts were poor. Surely could do better.

"very pleasant stay"

13/10/2016

we arrived for a weekend at this hotel. reception was efficient but I felt another couple of chairs there would have been beneficial. Our room was a reasonable size and the beds were comfortable. the hot water was extremely hot and so was the room. we had the window open most of the time. we had half board and the food, although basic was very tasty and plentiful. we enjoyed our stay and would be happy to return.

"Very average hotel"

12/10/2016

I stayed at Best Western Tillington Hall for one night for work and I was really quite disappointed, I was allocated a room on the ground floor which was very tired and could have done with updating. It wasn't dirty as in unclean just tired dirty. The carpets were all worn and dirty. There was a huge spider in the bathroom which I had to dispose of too, looked like it had been there a while. The furniture all very dated, the whole hotel could do with a lick of paint and a refresh. I ordered room service as I arrived around 8pm I ordered chicken and it was luke warm and not very tasteful. The best thing about the hotel was the staff, very friendly and attentive. I am not one for giving negative feedback but felt I had to share my experience.

"Reunion weekend"

4
11/10/2016

A very enjoyable weekend at the hotel. Meals were of a good standard, well presented and hot. Waiting staff courteous and efficient. Our room (316) was spacious and well decorated. The only comments I could make are that the trees outside the window are large and take away much light, and the hot water was a little too hot. Otherwise thanks to all stafffor a very enjoyable weekend.

"Clean and comfortable but uninspired food"

3
09/10/2016

We were at an organised function so didn't sample the normal menu but my veggie option on both nights was uninspired and tasteless. Other people were happy with the Saturday nights fare over the previous so some were content. Having said that the hotel was clean and comfortable and the staff helpful and friendly.

"A Pleasant Find"

5
03/10/2016

Stayed for a few days whilst visiting relatives in the area. The room was very clean and the furniture polished during our stay. The staff were friendly and polite with good knowledge of activities in the local area. The restuarant has a good menu and the food reasonably priced, well presented and in good time. The buffet breakfast was fresh and plentiful. We had trouble locating the bar person several times as he was busy helping else where. But a very good stay in a nice hotel. Will definately return, thank you.

"A good place to stay in middle England"

4
29/09/2016

Tillington Hall Hotel is a good place for a stop-over stay if journeying across country but is also a great place to stay longer to explore the wonderful countryside and attractions of this part of England.

"Food Was Teffible"

2
28/09/2016

Attended a function at this establishment and whilst the location and ambience was good the food served was terrible! The starter consisted of a mushroom covered with melted cheese which not only looked unappetizing but was! The main course of beef (it really looked like beef stew) what was supposed to pass for mashed potatoes which were lumpy and under cooked maintained the low standard of the starter. The desert was just as poor. There really was nothing good about the whole experience.

"freindly comfortable clean food 1st class"

as ex hoteliers ourselves we know what we like and dont like, room was very comfortable, staff well attentive the water was hot and plentyful, not sure if these negative reviewers were staying at the Tillington Hall

"Poor poor poor"

2
25/09/2016

The name of this hotel is the best part about it. But it makes promises it cannot keep! This hotel screams out for refurbishment. It is massively understaffed. On entering reception there is an ad for what the staff call 'wake parties' for after a burial or cremation. Somehow diminishing the grieving individuals. That questionable judgement informs most of the staff's behaviour. Try to stay somewhere else in Stafford if you care for a reasonable environment which does not rely on so few staff that reception just does not answer the phone, the food is poor and room service does not come with enough cutlery or napkins. WiFi is free but mostly does not work. There is free parking right in front of the rooms. Sleeping in your car under the beautiful old trees, eating food you have brought with you is highly recommended!

"Average hotel, awful food"

3
21/09/2016

Overall this hotel is looking a bit tired and shabby, it is however very clean and the staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. The food does let it down. Evening meals were very bland, poorly presented and the service extremely slow.

"Confused Diner"

3
19/09/2016

This was my fourth visit for lunch (13th Sept), over a fairly long period of time but remarkably the same scenario applied. I waited at the restaurant entrance for several minutes without seeing or hearing any member of staff which included the adjacent bar. Thinking it wasn't open I went to reception and they fetched someone from behind the scenes. No other person was in the restaurant. Apparently there was a private function in another room and available staff were committed there. Not a good advert for people visiting for lunch. The menu was quite varied and two courses were £9 95 with three courses £13 95. I had three courses and the quality was fine. It certainly compares well with other places I've eaten. For some unknown reason, on every occasion I've been the only diner, hence my unusual title. This is even more of a mystery because the restaurant is very clean and well presented, but is as quiet as a churchyard.

"Lovely weekend"

13/09/2016

Just spent a weekend here for a naval reunion. Lovely room and bathroom with lots of piping hot water. Good food all weekend and staff who were extremely friendly, efficient and helpful. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them. Its also ideally located for the M6.

"Chef needs sacking"

1
06/09/2016

Food was bland not seasoned !! It states French fries seasoned no they are not and the PROPER CHIPS taste like oven chips awful and to make matters worse the chicken was dry and overcooked would of been better going to McDonald's . The Chefs here need to go back to basics or go and wash dishes as if you can not cook a simple chicken and chips and get it right then you should give up now. If I was the manager of this business I would be recruiting a new chef !!!

"In need of serious updating"

1
06/09/2016

This hotel looks really nice from the outside, but don't be deceived. The room we stayed in was very tired, almost like a 'throw back from the 80's' plus I don't think £80 a night is cheap either, the premier travel inn down the road, have better rooms than this. The buffet breakfast was pretty average! The worst thing was, there was a leak in our bathroom, which meant ( apologies for giving these details) that everytime you sat on the toilet, the water dripped from the ceiling, down your back. This was reported on our arrival, and were told 20 mins later it was fixed! However, the following morning this was still happening, this was reported again, nothing done. On our departure, we were asked by 'Andrew' if we had enjoyed our stay, but have had no response! So best western, if you read your trip Advisor reviews, take note, and a response would not go amiss either

"Lovely hotel"

29/08/2016

Room was lovely size with big bed, tv with sky, shower/bath, wardrobes and drawers. Excellent breakfast included, buffet English breakfast, otherwise costs around £10 great bargain with the room. Ate at the restaurant one night very good, service was a little slow but wasn't in a rush to leave. Great staff, lovely hotel, great weekend away.

"Chef needs to get some pride"

1
20/08/2016

Had dinner in the restaurant as a party of six - four from China. When booking, I asked if they have a local sourcing policy. I was told yes - everything came from birmingham! To me, that meant "anywhere! The menu was limited although that is often a good sign. The staff were more pleasant than they were proficient. I ordered a bottle of wine that I thought was "English". When it arrived, the label said "British wine" which of course meant that grape juice arrived in a 45 tonne road tanker to be fermented somewhere in the UK. This is not the kind of stuff that a reputable restaurant puts on it's wine list. I sent it back before opening and replaced it with an excellent New Zealand white. My guests were generally satisfied with the food they ordered. I ordered Belly Pork which was 50% soft fat. It tasted as if it had been reheated. The pork crackling was anything but - a jelly like mess! The plate was piled high in a manner most unappetising. There was far too much food presented without thought or pride. I complained and I was told that the chef had been informed. There was no offer of recompence of any kind - no jesture to say sorry. I did not expect a lot. I have no plan to return - Ever!

"What an absolute dump!"

16/08/2016

Aim for the Premier Inn or Holiday Inn Stoke on Trent instead. The Shittington Hall at Worst Western is old fashioned, not business-traveller focussed, crap food, water in the scrambled eggs, cockroaches landing on the bed from the ceiling in the middle of the night, wet towels (probably used) still in the bathroom hanging up as new ones. You are probably better off sleeping in your car than this dive.

Just here for one night but to date - lovely, helpful staff, clean and comfortable room. Best surprise for a hotel at this grade - food is really good and bar prices very reasonable. Try the smoked haddock - gorgeous. Will recommend to colleagues.

"Ok for price"

14/08/2016

This was our 2nd stay at this hotel but this time I felt a little disappointed. The room was very hot due to not having air con and the window doesn't open far. There's a heated towel rail in the bathroom that is on scolding hot 24/7 with no means of turning it off. The hot water is extremely hot so be warned if travelling with kids! Fresh fruit selection at breakfast is very minimal but the hot selection is really good. Breakfast was due to finish at 10am but at 9.38am they had ran out of pastries. Waitress said they didn't have anymore but would check & came back with 1 croissant for a family of 3.

"Tillington Hall"

11/08/2016

Good hotel, comfy beds, sky big plus, bathroom good but shower over bath not my favourite, feels cheap!! also plug release seized. I would rate it good, a little expensive for a 3* !! £111 a night with breakfast. I would use again.

"Wedding Meal"

5
03/08/2016

Had our wedding meal and stayed a couple of nights in July. The food was excellent and the staff were very helpful, really good service. From the first organisation, sorting out the menu, letting us choose where the tables were to breakfast the following day, couldn't fault any of it. Helped make the day really special. Thank you

"Great stay and staff"

02/08/2016

Stayed for a quick course my company sent me for and love the place... Staff great and tested a few ales and relaxed thank you. Rooms are comfortable and are quick to help you. Near by is a store if you need it and a bank machine. Of course the people in the area are very helpful maybe because I am an American but if so then thanks and God Bless the Queen

"Nice Hotel, good value"

4
02/08/2016

Stayed at Tillington Hall Hotel for Business. The room was quite acceptable with a good size TV. Internet speed was good. I managed to get a great deal through the website for booking, selecting their Leisure Break option that was about half the regular price. All round a good place to stay with plenty of parking. Breakfast also highly recommended..

"Clean rooms and a comfy bed"

28/07/2016

I stayed here for a week whilst working near by. It is a reasonably sized hotel with free parking. It was very hot whilst I was there and my room was roasting, however, there was a fan in the room which was great. Housekeeping was good and there was a plentiful supply of tea/coffee and biscuits. I did not eat in the hotel but my colleagues were positive about the food. There was Sky TV in the room which offered plenty of choice! There is a Co-op store nearby for essentials and it is only a few minutes drive into Stafford centre if you need more. I would stay here again, particularly given that it is so close to the M6.

"Excellent stay."

27/07/2016

I recently stayed here for a business meeting and have to say how wonderful it was. The room was very clean and well maintained. The food was superb! The presentation was very impressive. Cocktails were also very delicious. Thank you to all. I will definitely recommend and be back.

"Wedding Reception"

5
26/07/2016

We had our wedding reception in the Garden Suite. Everything was amazing including the weather! Pretty much all of our guests commented on how good the buffet was. The service was excellent and there was never a queue at the bar with over 120 guests. They were very accommodating in allowing us to set the room how we wanted and guests that stayed in the hotel all had good things to say. A night to remember.

"Perfect hotel for an overnight stop"

4
25/07/2016

This hotel is very close to the M6 junction, but has an independent hotel feel. The rooms are well furnished and clean. The food in the restaurant was tasty, with a good vegetarian choice, and the service excellent. The breakfast was an ample buffet with a good selection of fruit and hot and cold items. They make poached eggs on request. However, the coffee is truly terrible, and there is no real ale on tap (although some bottled beers) Overall, a good place to stay.

"Fabulous food "

4
14/07/2016

I recently dined with one of friends in the restaurant at Tillington Hall Hotel on Tuesday evening. I was very pleased with both the food and the service. The food presentation was spectacular and I shall most definitely be returning in the future.

"Very helpful staff"

5
10/07/2016

Had a comfortable overnight stop here and would recommend this hotel. It was clean, comfortable and good value for money. All the staff were efficient and helpful, particularly Ruth on reception. The breakfast was good and the evening meal even better. The hotel was not particularly busy, I don't know why, but it suited us.

"Alton Towers - Did the Job!"

3
05/07/2016

Me and my family stayed here for 2 nights as part of the online Alton Towers package. Let me start by saying that it is a good 45 minute drive to the resort from the hotel. You are on very bendy country roads the entire distance and I recommend a sat nav to assist as there are a lot of left and right turns during the commute. The hotel itself is very basic. Expect no frills. I must stress that I am in no way complaining about that due to the very good deal we got through the Alton Towers booking page. The rooms and hotel are dated and the breakfast is average at best. However it is quiet and clean and we all got a goods night sleep, ultimately that is all we needed after spending all day at the theme park.

This hotel delivers what you need in terms of a decent nights sleep - comfortable bed, shower that has sufficient water pressure, and quiet location. What I found a bit below par was breakfast. It is all self service - which I find annoying while you wait to toast the bread etc. coffee lacklustre and insipid fruit juice. There was a cooked option, which was typically greasy spoon level. Staff friendly and helpful. Overall for the price it was adequate for 1 night.

Good value, comfortable hotel. Unfortunately our shower didn't work and we had cold water. The staff were very apologetic however when we told them. Good meal in the restaurant and good value for money.

A last minute booking the night before found me at The Tillington Hall Hotel which was very comfortable with friendly & cheerful staff. A pleasant stay - I would recommend to anyone needing an overnight stop (or longer) in the Stafford area.

"Poor breakfast."

The hotel was fine and the staff helpful. The first morning the only eggs on offer were scrambled. I asked for a poached egg sand I was told they couldn't do one "it would take too long". They provided a fried egg floating in a plate of oil. The next day 3 of us asked for fried eggs but were told it wasn't possible as "there is only one chef on". There were about 100 of us there on a reunion and other guests. Poor planning?

I had read the reviews so was apprehensive, however its close to the M6 has plenty of parking, has local facilities within minutes walk. The reception staff (2) were polite efficient and friendly. The room 314 had a view over the grounds, had all the facilities you would expect and was very clean. There are several area's to sit in down stairs with televisions, its free Wifi and the hotel bar is stocked to an ok standard. The evening meal was very nice, home cooked ham with trimmings and the cheesecake was very nice. There were I would say about seven staff on in the bar/restaurant and seeing it was very busy the waiting time was not unreasonable. The staff checked several times to see that we had ordered, received at orders, were happy with them etc The barman especially deserved praise.

"Poor quality &overpriced."

Very expensive for accommodation. Unable to close bedroom window. Uncomfortable bed. Poor lighting in room. TV did not work. Food was not to standard and very limited menu. Would not recommend when so many other hotels in the area.

"Staff and food great but not enough staff!!!"

17/06/2016

Stayed here on a short break and found the staff to be excellent! However, having to wait 20 mins to check in due to only one receptionist being on is poor. As is the wait for a drink in the bar which was about another 20 minutes, the bar member was busy doing a room service but there was only one member of bar staff on? Service was better in the restaurant as there was 4 or so people in there. Later in the evening I had a problem with my shower and tried to get attention from someone, however, in the evening they only have one member of staff on to look after 80 odd people. Not that I was surprised. It must be said that the service was excellent but they seem over burdened with the lack of staff.

Hotel very clean room very spacious. Staff very polite wifi a bit touchy some times it works. Very peaceful not far from M6 j14 nice park next to hotel. Used it for 2 days at Alton towers only 30 minutes away booked for 3 nights very good price with park tickets including breakfast

Reunion arranged for AGM. Room clean, problem with my shower falling off wall during night, fixed while on a day trip. Breakfast poor choice, scrambled eggs not willing to poach or fry as only 1 chef for 133 people! More kitchen staff, less people clearing tables. Choice of food for gala dinner not brilliant. Served like school dinners! Reception staff helpful.

"Very Good"

08/06/2016

After taking approx 10 mins to book in, the receptionist was on the phone and checking her personal phone at the same time. The room was very comfortable and had everything on hand from iron to coffee making facilities. Dinner was very good with a good choice to suit everyone. Only downside was, as it was very warm outside, the room was roasting inside, had to sleep on top of the bed with windows open all night

"Lovely old hotel ."

03/06/2016

A lovely clean and pleasant hotel, but the wait for meals, far too long. Lots of staff so couldn't understand why we waited 30 minutes before the starter came, and then another 45 minutes before the main course came, all set up in a dining room, that was stuck at the back, we were on a coach party of about 35 and when the food came it was dried up. Such a pity because it could have been so much better. The bedroom was so clean and comfy. The dinner just let it all down. Made up for this by a super breakfast. Easy access to Wales and the South. The restaurant needs someone to get in there and sort the service out, One of the ladies at the table did go and ask was there a problem? It was too late to have a desert and tea or coffee at nearly 10.00 in the evening, when we sat down at 7.45 pm there was plenty of staff, and I have never seen this before, in between courses the staff starting to clear the tables of side plates and glasses and the other cutlery! Best Western can do a lot better than this.

Generally Best Westerns are very average in my experience. This hotel bucks that trend. The staff are great and the food in the evening is pretty good and great value, breakfast is average. I stayed for two working weeks, one week in a standard room, the second in an exec room. Both are ok, large double bed and to a reasonable standard. Get an upgrade if you can as the exec rooms have a large bath and are just a bit nicer. The bar area is quite nice with some garden furniture outside ( prices are high though (£4.35 for a pint of lager) All in all good value comfortable place with lovely staff. Best Western need to get rid of the awful signs they use !

"Mum's 90th Birthday Lunch 21st May 2016"

5
23/05/2016

Four months in the planning, 35 of us from all around the country converged on Tillington Hall for lunch to celebrate Mum attaining 90 not out and could not have chosen a better venue. Sales Co-ordinator Meghan, a consummate professional who should be highly prized by her employers, had patiently guided me through the planning and ensured that all our extra requests were in place on the day. Meghan was always available both in person and by email and her unfailing ' can do, no problem' approach is genuine and remarkable. We had the Conservatory to ourselves with the tables arranged exactly as we wished - mobility access throughout the hotel is first class- and were given free rein to bring our own table decorations, place cards, balloons, cake etc. The meal was outstanding, really good value for money, vegan and gluten-free options supplied without fuss and the serving staff were very pleasantly efficient - also patient with those of us who had forgotten what we had ordered! Unlike other so-called bigger name local venues we have used in the past, there was absolutely no pressure to leave the tables after the meal, so we were able to make an afternoon of it. After an interval for a power nap, some of us reconvened in the evening at the bar for the post mortem! To summarise, for any family function, forget the rest as Tillington Hall is the best!

DelphineMason l, Guest Relations Manager at BEST WESTERN Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review

A lovely hotel just a couple of miles from the town centre. Easy parking. Clean and large reception. We had a Felix room which was fabulous. The restaurant was good and reasonably priced. Follow the hotel on social media to get 10% off. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. As we're most of the staff we met.

Stayed previously as we were attending a Dog Show at the nearby County Showground so booked again as dogs are welcome. Lovely spacious, clean room and very friendly welcoming staff on reception desk. We ate in the restaurant as we had previously enjoyed it but unfortunately this time the service was appalling. We had to wait ages before our main course arrived and then again another very long wait for our dessert. We would not have bothered if we had known that we would have to wait so long but as there were only a handful of other customers in the restaurant we did not expect such bad service. The food was OK but not good value for money. Breakfast was OK, nothing special. Would stay again but would not bother eating there.

DelphineMason l, Guest Relations Manager at BEST WESTERN Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Guest Thank you for your lovely comments regarding our reception team. Im sorry to hear you did not receive the same experience you had the last time when dinning in our restaurant. The weekend you stayed we had a large group in which could have been the reason for the delay on your food, however this should have been stated to you when being seated in the restaurant. Thank you for taking the time to write your review, we look forward to seeing you again the future. Kind regards Bowjena Glass

One of our party ended up being relocated to another Hotel, OK the Best Weston agreed to pay for that but he had booked in for 2 nights and after 1 night his room was occupied by others and his belongings removed & then held behind reception. Not good for him or the rest of our party, the hotel didn't really offer an explanation or any other option. A sour note for us all, unfortunately & cost of taxis & team breakfast spoiled.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Tillington Hall. Check in was easy and my room was clean and tidy and plenty spacious for my needs. The staff were all very pleasant and nothing was to much trouble. Breakfast was excellent and i would happily stay here again.

"It's not as described!"

2
20/04/2016

I'm staying right now and can honestly say that it doesn't fit the description given by BW. It is not in a leafy location, it is in the medley of a holding estate. The food was awful (greasy, lacked colour and was just not nice). Colleagues and I asked for bottles of water at 2100 only to be told there was only 2 bottles of still water left in the hotel. The staff were polite but this hotel is a really poor reflection on Best Western? Never again.

"Not a bad place to stay in Stafford"

10/04/2016

Stayed here because it's close to my sisters house rather than by choice. We had a discounted deluxe room which was large and pleasantly appointed with quality furniture. Room was clean with a comfortable bed and Sky TV, not sure which channels as we didn't look for the sports or movies. Hotel is quite old, typical Best Westerns which I don't find to be a bad thing. Bathroom was large with a bath and clean though there was some staining on the walls. Breakfast was pretty standard self service buffet with premium sausages. I didn't try the WiFi so can't comment on it. Overall for the price we paid, £108, it was good value. It's a little old and in need of some repair in the communal areas but the room was better and if you need a hotel in the area I wouldn't dissuade you. I would say though that the standard rooms looked quite a bit smaller than ours.

"long Weekend"

we were part of a large group that stayed here for a Line Dance Weekend. The Hotel has a Central location, It was clean, the rooms were comfortable, the food was tasty and well presented. The staff were friendly and helpful. Would not hesitate to come back

"Only one downside but ruined the experience"

04/04/2016

Visited this weekend just gone and was pleasantly surprised by the hotel, food was excellent and the majority of the staff service was great! However, the bar staff let this place down as they were hardly present and when they were their service was poor as was there language. If I was a manager of this place I would be ashamed to hear such language coming from my employees.

We came here for easter lunch and the food was lovely. All well cooked, great portions of veg and the staff were friendly as ever! The Yorkshire puddings were great! I look forward to our next visit. The three courses on a Sunday were only £14.50! Great value.

24/03/2016

I spent four nights here on business. This is a basic but comfortable hotel. There is plenty of parking and the hotel is centrally positioned. There is no gym on site but there is a PureGym very close to the hotel. I stayed in room 308 which is on the 2nd floor and accessible by a lift. It was very quiet so good for me being a light sleeper. The room was clean if a little worn but adequate for my needs. The only real down size was how hot it was. I was confused by this as I turned the heating off and opened the window as wide as it could go. It was between 5 and 10 degrees outside and I fully expected the room to cool down but it didn't. I have no idea why this was but there was a fan in the wardrobe which I now know the reason for. I can't imagine how hot it will be in the summer. There was no safe or fridge which would have been nice. One bonus however was the sky box in the room with some great channels, this was a real treat. I only ate once in the hotel on the first night and it was not very nice. I ate Cajun salmon and home cut chips. The salmon was salty and the chips were cold. This was also the healthiest option on the menu. There were no salads and the menu was predominantly meat orientated. Breakfast was not much to talk about although the restaurant staff were happy to provide me with soya milk. There was only one member of staff each day and she coped remarkably well and was always polite. Warning if you come down for breakfast later than 8am you will get very little choice and no pastries so be warned. Wifi was excellent throughout the whole hotel. Would I stay here again ? Yes I would, it is a three star hotel and that's all it is.

"Part way there"

"The beds are still hard"

3
23/03/2016

Having visited the hotel before we knew what to expect with regards to the room which was of an adequate size and the housekeeping team do a very good job in keeping everything clean and tidy. Unfortunately the bed and pillows still feel hard which is not condusive to a good nights sleep, why have a mattress topper that is so thin that it is useless. The roast beef in the restaurant could have been used to sole foot wear, if only the chef had cooked it on a lower heat for a little longer time. The staff on the whole are young but that is normal in this day and age in hotels of this ilk, if highly trained staff are expected then book into a 5 star establishment which will cost multiples of this 3 star hotel.

"To be avoided"

1
20/03/2016

This was like the old TV-series Faulty Towersa, but - thank God - without John Cleese. Nothing was working well. A terrible restaurant where all whole meet and roasts must be avoided at all cost. The cheeseburger is ok. Fish and chips was a very old fish deepfried in very old rancid oil. In the room everything fell appart. The water tap was lose, the water pressure in the shower was like having a small child spitting on you at its best. Very complicated TV system that cannot be operated by using the instruction, so additional instructions musdt be saught from the front desk. The personell consists of sweet and kind young girls - pleasant enough - with no measurable intelligence, with two exeptions - one in the restaurant and one at the front desk, during my 4 night stay.

GMASanders, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your review and your opinion. I am sorry that you felt the need to give a negative review. When reading your review I have noticed that you stayed in the hotel for four nights yet you have not once brought to my attention any issues with regards to the quality for the food. I notice that you have not made a complaint with a restaurant team member. The team in the restaurant table check and that would of given you ample time in which for us to rectify the issue with your meal. I am mystified why you would wait until you checked out to let us know that you had issues in regards to your food. The hotel has been awarded a score of 5 for it's food safety you are implying that the fish was old and not cooked in the correct hygiene conditions. I find your comment unfounded and based on the fact you did not like the taste of the dish. I also notice that you did not like any of our roasts and they ‘should be avoided' again what was wrong with them? Did you not like the way that they were cooked? Could they have been presented better? Was the quality of the meat not good? As you can appreciate if we know we can rectify. All our TV's offer SKY TV as standard. All rooms have their own set top box. All SKY boxes link to the TV through and HDMI cable. Like most people would have at home. I am going to be bold enough to think that maybe you pressed the incorrect button and could not get back to the menu you needed, I am also guessing that one of my ‘not very intelligent' staff came to the rescue and helped you and get the TV working. I must say that I am ok with anyone criticising our work, that is your choice but my team work very hard to get things right and as you can see by the number of reviews on here my staff are far from unintelligent pleasant people. They are dedicated to delivering hospitality and yes they may get some items wrong but they are all trying very hard to ensure that guests like you enjoy their stay. I am more than happy to meet with you next time you in Stafford and show you around the kitchen to prove that we only use the best ingredients and not use microwave meals like majority of food establishments do.

Reasonable value leisure break. Good and relatively peaceful location between the town and M6. The hotel is functional and well maintained though a little tired and plain. "Fire alarm @ 4am"

4
01/03/2016

This was my second visit to Tillington Hall (28/29 feb2016) and over all I enjoyed my stay... The worrying part for me on this occasion was the 4am fire alarm and the inexperience of the staff responding to it.... The two gentlemen did not hide their nervousness and the term rabbits in the headlights springs to mind. There was no radio communication between the night porter and I can only assume a young duty manager! Who eventually appeared and told us all to follow him outside, whilst I might add he was already halfway out of it himself. Once outside there was no other communication between guests and staff... Not a word!!!.... Until the alarms stopped and whilst swiftly walking off to go back inside, the young man (he never introduced himself) announced we could go back in now as he had checked the corridor and I believe he said something about a fault, but at this point he was too far away with his back to everyone for us to hear properly. We were roughly outside for 15 minutes. The words spoken by the night porter "I think it's ok now" as we re entered the hotel were I guess an apt ending to the whole proceedings. Room (thank you Housekeeping), food, reception staff... Lovely. Would I stay again...... Yes.... But don't forget... Our lives are in your hands.... So fire training would be an idea!!!.

26/02/2016

We chose this hotel after reading really good reviews on this site. The reception staff were polite and professional, the room was on the ground floor with plenty of space for two. There were two single beds which were very comfortable, plenty of storage space and a well equipped bathroom facility, really pleased with the hotel. We decided to have our evening meal there, the food was of a good standard, quantity but my wife's Fillet steak was over cooked, (when asking for a streak to be medium to rear it should not turn out to be well done) for the price the standard of food could of been better.

"Friendly service"

4
22/02/2016

I stay here on a regular basis, always getting good value for money. The accommodation is pretty good without being luxurious, but the thing that separates the Tillington Hall from many other hotels is the friendly quality of service that I always receive. The evening meals are good, but the way in which the food is delivered is excellent, with warm and friendly service. I shall keep coming back as long as that remains the case

"3 course meal for 4, couldn't ask for more!"

5
21/02/2016

Did not expect the food to be so good! Well presented tasty homemade served with a smile and all 4 of us had 3 different courses and thoroughly enjoyed the food, hats off to the chef! Don't be put off by slightly old fashioned decor if you want great food served by friendly staff try here! The charcuterie starter was generous and tasty and the fudge brownie cheesecake was to die for! Can't wait to go back here

"Poor quality hotel"

2
18/02/2016

Room was smelly and basic. Hotel staff did nothing to rectify this problem. Room service was not very good. Last night took them three attempts to get the order right. Not three star hotel and staff not very friendly. Showers were poor and water dribbled out. Not a good stay!

"Excellent Team"

5
16/02/2016

Forced to stay in hotel due to boat sinking, but the team here made our stay a real pleasure. Hotel is great value, rooms are nice and functional and food in restaurant is way above expectations. However, it was the staff here who made the real difference: breakfast lady cares about standards and can't do enough to help; housekeeping team likewise; other front of house staff friendly, helpful, smiley. A credit to the owners.

"Excellent friendly service"

5
14/02/2016

Stayed here for three nights and enjoyed all aspects of our stay. All staff were extremely helpful and friendly and eager to resolve any minor issues. An excellent range of choice of breakfast items were available right to the end of service. We would definitely stay there again.

"Decent"

4
11/02/2016

Overall I had a good stay. The hotel was easy to find, had loads of parking and nice friendly staff. I ate an evening meal in the bar/lounge and it was very tasty, the drinks were very reasonably priced too. I stayed in room 302 and the room itself is pleasant enough but do with some extra sound deadening over the windows. I think the window is quite old and single glazed so it wasn't the warmest or the best at keeping noise out. Perhaps thicker curtains that overlap? In general the wifi was good in the hotel but a bit patchy in the bedroom. There was also a good selection of stuff to watch on the TV, as the room had a decent sky package, which was a nice touch. Breakfast was good....a decent choice and a buffet style. Overall a nice stay, at a reasonable price and I'd stay again, if I was in the area.

Just returned from a night away with Dinner and Breakfast at Tillington Hall Hotel I have to say I was so impressed with the hotel. Our room was spacious clean and very comfy. Not too hot. There was a fan available and all tea and coffee well stocked. The room was very quiet over night too. The Staff were lovely and helpful, full of smiles and humour. Our evening meal was delightful, steaks cooked to perfection. I recommend the chocolate brownie cheesecake! Cant fault a thing! Will Be back to stay again.

"Room needs upgrade!"

2
15/01/2016

The room I stayed in at this hotel on the top floor was tired, smelly and the shower was cold. I suspect there were other areas of the hotel that had been upgraded but this wasn't one of them. The towels were frayed and shabby, the bed was hard and the breakfast although not terrible was sadly lacking. I don't feel that the promotion of this hotel on the website was representative of the actual quality or feel of it, it was tired and in need of some attention throughout.

DelphineMason l, Guest Relations Manager at BEST WESTERN Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Julie, I am sorry you feel this way, please accept my sincere apologies on behalf of Tillington Hall Hotel. "Comfortable hotel in the Potteries"

5
08/01/2016

Conveniently located just off the M^ (Junction 14), in a quiet neighborhood, this is a comfortable Best Western property with competitive rates and comfortable rooms. We had several meals here over the New Year's period and the service was excellent. Breakfast was disappointing because everything, including hot food, is laid out buffet style, so the scrambled eggs were lumpy and congealed and the other hot food cool to cold under the "heat" lamps. Some of the sausages tasted like they had been recycled over several days. However, the dinner service was excellent and the quality of food very good. Overall, good value for money, friendly staff, and a great location for visiting Potteries museums, Trentham, Alton Towers, and other local spots.

DelphineMason l, Guest Relations Manager at BEST WESTERN Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Guest, Thank you for your review. We are sorry you were disappointed with the breakfast. All the cooked breakfast is freshly made on the day, however with it being a quiet period there may not have been a quick turnover in the restaurant, which may have resulted in the food cooling slightly. We will be looking into how we can improve this during quiet periods, if this is the case. Eggs can be cooked however you prefer on request. We are pleased to hear you were happy with the price you paid for your room and the location and we hope to see you in the near future to see our improvements from your feedback. Kind regards, Delphine Mason

"Christmas lunch"

1
28/12/2015

Our family Christmas Day lunch was not what we had hoped for this hotel is a has been it needs a complete makeover including the chef that cooked our poor quality dinner . Eight of us the starter was very poor the main meal terrible the sweet of creme brûlée was the highlight of my meal the waitresses could see two of our table was still eating yet still asked if we were finished this happened at each course . We would not use this hotel for future get togethers there was no festive atmosphere at all we felt that they couldn't wait for us to finish eating.

DelphineMason l, Guest Relations Manager at BEST WESTERN Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Christine, We're sorry the dinner and service was not up to your expectation; however we do have a standard procedure to check tables as soon as everyones food has been served, which gives the guest the opportunity to speak of any issues which would then be rectified immediately. I am also very sorry you felt there was no festive atmosphere, We put a lot of hard work and effort into planning the day; with festive tables decorations, Room decorations and festive music. What would make you feel a more festive atmosphere? I look forward to hearing from you. Kind regards, Delphine

"value for money but small improvements needed"

We recently spent a week at the Tillington while visiting Stafford and found it good value for money, warm and with helpful staff. The things which let it down are the watered down breakfast juice and extremely weak coffee served in both the breakfast room and the bar. Minor things but very important if you like to start your day with a refreshing glass of juice and a nice cup of coffee. Put an extra pound on the price of the room but stop watering the juice and coffee. It is a false economy and will stop people from coming back.

I really enjoyed my stay in this hotel. We were a large party who were moved at the last minute to this hotel (due to a heating problem at our original hotel) and the staff were very efficient at getting us all checked in and to our rooms. The room itself was very comfortable and clean, with a good layout and a full length mirror and plenty of mains sockets. Tea and coffee making facilities were also provided which was great. The Christmas fayre style dinner was delicious and was served pretty quickly considering how many of us there were. The buffet breakfast the next day was amazing! I arrived for the restaurant opening and the food was piping hot and plentiful. My only complaint was the queue for the tea & coffee!!! A few in our group did grumble about the noise generated by a wedding party in another wing of the hotel, but this did not bother me even though my room overlooked the party (it wasn't that noisy once windows and curtains were closed). All in all I would recommend this hotel and if I am in the area again would stay here.

Organised a christmas family meal here yesterday. starters took half an hour, then main meal was another half hour after we finished our starters. It wasnt even busy, just our table of six,and another 1 more table. when our main meals finally arrived, 3 were cold so had to be sent back, we waited for them to come back, and waited and waited, after another half hour we gave up,and told them we no longer wanted them, the other 3 had already finished their meals. not acceptable. we certainly will not return here. get a grip tillington

"Avoid the coffee and juice"

A value for money hotel with reasonable amenities which is let down by watering down the orange juice and coffee at breakfast and in the bar. Rooms are reasonable and warm. Staff are nice. TV in room requires an engineering degree to work it.

We went to this hotel for the Christmas Dinner on an organization to which I belong. The food selection was good. I had pate to start and my wife had melon. We both had turkey with the usual trimmings. Our deserts were xmas paid and cheesecake and everything was good quality, hot and served well. Plates were hot and the service was friendly, efficient and well organized. Overall a very enjoyable meal was had by all.

"Not somewhere I would recommend"

I arrived late (nearly 1am) and the two gents on reception were very pleasant and friendly. However at the same time as me, there was another car that had just arrived to drop off a girl for one of the other guests that was waiting by the door. As I was going up to my room I had the unfortunate experience of hearing them discuss payment and how long the guy was paying for. Not really what you want to hear after a long journey. I don't think the guys on reception realised what was going on but it was quite obvious. The room itself was small and the bed small and uncomfortable. Breakfast decent. Wifi barely worked in the room I was in.

GMASanders, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. I am very pleased that my two members of staff were very friendly and welcoming to you. I am sorry that you had encountered an issue with another guess during your stay in regards to them "discussing payment". Had we had of known the person would of been asked to leave but considering she met a paying guest and had this conversation out of sight of our staff I do not know what more they could of done. Thank you for your comment about your bed being small. Your bed was a single size bed measuring 90cm x 190cm which is specified as a Best Western standard size for a single room. I have checked your reservation and you reserved a single room. We do have larger rooms such as a double room, a prefer double room, and junior suite and the superior room. If you do need a larger bed i would suggest booking a larger room for your nest reservation. I am concerned that you feel that you cannot recommend the hotel because of two items of dissatisfaction during your stay. The first one the hotel team did not know and by the sound of it until you overheard a conversation you did not know the lady in question may of been a prostitute. As i have said that had we of known she would of been asked to leave. The second area was that the bed was too small, but again you booked a single room and that is really what was provided a standard single room. I am more than happy to discuss this in person should you wish to, as you know i have also responded to your review you have left with out feedback survey. Again thank you for your comments and i do hope you will reconsider and stay with us in the future.

"Excellent Christmas lunch"

48 Members of Staffordshire Trefoil Guild enjoyed an excellent Christmas lunch at Tillington Hall yesterday. The food was well presented, piping hot and served on hot plates. We'd preordered our meals as we were a large group & everything was served exactly to time. The room & tables had been decorated for Christmas and looked lovely. The staff were attentive & helpful without being intrusive. I was even asked if we needed a CD player or Christmas music. I would highly recommend the Christmas lunch and the venue. We've booked the venue for our annual meeting & lunch in March and we may well be make again in December for another Christmas lunch.

Stayed at this hotel for two nights early December. Went with my partner and our dog. The room we stayed in was spacious with a huge bed. It was spotlessly clean and the price we paid was more than reasonable. We ate in the restaurant and had bar food and it was all tasty and well presented. The staff were lovely, friendly and efficient. It is a great hotel if you have a dog as it is surrounded by parkland and playing fields which is handy in the morning. Only complaint would be there was nowhere to let the dog stay with us in the evening when we had a drink. I know she would not be allowed where people are eating but I can't see that sitting in the lounge at reception would present any problems. Would certainly stay here again if in the area (Close to Stafford Showground where we were going)

My room was a comfortable size with most amenities. It remained very warm despite closing the radiator and opening the window. Bar is small and basic. Breakfast was a basic buffet. Fine for a night but it is not a place you'd want to spend a week.

DelphineMason l, Guest Relations Manager at BEST WESTERN Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Guest, Thank you for your feedback it is greatly appreciated. The hotel does provide fans in all rooms if the room was a little too hot and this can be found in the hanging space of the room. We are going to be launching the new brand standard for breakfast in January across the Best Western Brand. In regards to the bar being basic what would you like to see change? Again thank you for your comments. Warmest regards, Delphine Mason

"Bar not manned"

My wife and I popped into the bar at Tillington Hall for a cup of coffee on Saturday at tea time. We had to go to the reception and ask if they could get someone to serve us in the bar. When someone eventually came we ordered coffee and were advised that the coffee would be brought to our table. Another staff member brought the coffee to the staff side of the bar and shouted to us 'have you ordered the coffee' there was only one other person in the bar. We were expected to get up and go to the bar and collect our coffee because the 'door was locked'. Coffee was good but the service is not. As we left the bar someone else was just off to reception to ask to be served in the bar, so it is obviously a common issue to have a bar and then no staff to serve in it.

Attended a function here in November. It has been nearly 20 years since I last set foot in the place and I can't see me rushing back again. I accept that catering for large numbers is never going to achieve the levels of small top end restaurants, but on a table that I sat not a single person ate everything that was put in front of them. Tough meat, over cooked veg, undercooked potato's. The place itself looked like it needs a thorough refurbishment, not disgusting but certainly dated. Staff were polite and friendly, but not very efficient. Going to the bar often resulted in the staff having to go to a different room/bar to get what you want for basic things. If a hundred or so people are on a night out you are going to need a good stock. Waiter/esses dropping cutlery from dirty plated or leaning right across you. Shame.

Attended a masonic dinner for 100 people, the meal was awful. Smoked salmon and salad starter, should have been salmon surprise.I found 2 small fragments. Roast beef was the main course which was so tough,no-one on our table of 10 could eat it.The meal was served, completely plated, nothing on the plate was appetising. The staffwere young inexperienced waiters and waitresses.A dreadful experience. If you are thinking of organising a dinner, forget it. Fortunately we didn't stop at the hotel

meg l, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Tillington Hall Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Gordon, Thank you for your comments. I am sorry that you have had cause to complain. I am reviewing with the team the comments that you have made. We are surprised that your meat was tough as we served the same meat in another function last night and they were happy. However I appreciate that your table were not. We have had the pleasure of hosting events like your event on several occasions and we know that we are very good in our service and usually pride ourselves with our excellent food. Occasionally we get it wrong and it appears we may of done so on this occasion. Please accept my sincere apologies and please be assured we will use your comments to improve our service. Once again thank you for bringing your comments to my attention. Kind regards Andrew Sanders

"Business Stay"

15/11/2015

I stayed at the Tillington on Business. Reception staff was friendly and my room clean and tidy and of sufficient size. Sadly the furniture comes across as dated . Parking is plentiful which is a bonus and the Hotel has got good links to the motorway. I was slightly disappointed with the quality of their breakfast which is all presented on hot plates rather then being cooked to order.

"Not what I expected...."

11/11/2015

I was a bit disappointed staying there. £98 without breakfast for a 2-3 star hotel is way over the top. My room was upgraded due to top tier points but if that was the best room the hotel could offer, then I wonder what the normal rooms were like. Very dated decor and drab, bed not very comfortable. The upgrade came only after I mentioned it by the way, the receptionist just totally missed it. The bar had a limited variety of drinks. The restaurant menu ok, bit on the dear side. I only stayed a night but I wouldn't be in a hurry to revisit. The staff, in general, mostly pleasant and helpful.

What a delightful hotel this is. From the moment we checked in to the moment we left, we could not fault Tillington Hall. The Bistro meal was excellent and our waitress, Millie was so polite, friendly and cheerful. Being dog friendly just adds to this being one of the best hotels we have stayed at. Thank you to all the staff

13/10/2015

One of the happiest days of my life was spent at this hotel, on 1st November 2014, and Nick and his team were instrumental in making it so. My lovely husband and I got married here, and this wonderful Hotel and team made it so special. We had a family meal here the night before and the food was excellent. Most of us stayed overnight and the rooms were fantastic (especially mine, which was the wedding suite and it was amazing). The wedding day was brilliant:- Nick had everything in place, and the whole thing worked like clockwork, his team and the very talented chef made it such a memorable day.......and so, to re-live the memories of that magical day, we are celebrating our first Wedding Anniversary here, with a meal I imagine will be divine, as that very talented chef is still here. Thank you once again to Nick and his team, and I would recommend this hotel and it's brilliant team to anyone looking for a very special venue.

"An enjoyable reunion weekend"

04/10/2015

We gave spent the last 2 nights in room 315 on the second floor. There is a slight problem with the hot water bieng rather cool at times. I told reception about it, and when we came in from being out this afternoon there was a bottle of wine and an apologetic letter with the key to another room - we had the option of just using that rooms bathroom or moving into the room. However, when we used the bathroom again the water was OK. I liked the good customer service and the attitude of the staff on duty. Thank you.

"Good Quality Lunch"

4
01/10/2015

After a fairly long interval a friend and I returned for lunch in the restaurant, which is situated at the front of the hotel overlooking a field and part of the car park. There were a couple of business groups in the restaurant but we were the only diners eating a menu meal. ]The lunch menu was three courses for £9 95 with bread/butter and a portion of olives a little extra. There were a reasonable number of choices and we were pleasantly surprised at the quantity and high quality of the food. In particular the portion of vegetables was excellent ie red cabbage, parsnips, carrots and broccoli. The lady member of staff was friendly and welcoming. We were surprised it was so quiet, as it was very pleasant. We were told the restaurant was due for refurbishment, but it looked very clean and light and in our opinion nothing needed doing to it. We shall certainly visit more regularly

The hotel staff were very helpful and even set up breakfast at 0400 to enable us to eat before going off to compete in the UK Ironman70.3. The rooms are very comfortable and the restaurant food is simple and tasty. If I sign up next year I will be staying here again!

"Forces Reunion"

4
18/09/2015

My Husband attended a Forces Reunion at the hotel 10th/11th September. The Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms and public areas were clean and comfortable. We had a private Function Room allocated to us for the two nights with a private Bar and all our meals were served there. Breakfast both mornings offered a good variety, while the buffet on the Friday night was very good. Saturday we had a Dinner and unfortunately for some this was not the best. My Husband had the roast beef and couldn't get it cut it was so tough. I mentioned it to the waiter when he was taking away the plates and he said "oh dear" not even sorry. The other courses of the meal were excellent, my salmon was lovely. That was the only "blip" in what was otherwise a brilliant weekend. We would stay there again if in that area.
