"Fancy hotel"
EAGTBA, 12 Août 2018

We stayed at this beautiful hotel for three nights. When we arrived we got this small room with two windows (room 406). I asked the receptionist for a bigger room with a little view if there was possible. She got us a new room right away (room 418) without paying extra. Room 418 was much better. The hotel doesnt have much view but the room was very nice, and the was cleaning perfect all days! You have chips, wine and a chocolate at the "minibar". Tv in the room. Hairdryer. The bathroom is big but with little storage place and no outlet on the wall. The showers are fancy but not so very practical. The door in the shower is little and the water come over the whole floor. But this wasnt a very big problem actually. The beds are ok. It was warm in the room. The hotel doesnt have aircondition but there was an fan there which helped alot. This hotel is placed very near centrum. 5 min from Prastgatan and Storgatan witch are the most popular shopping streets in the town. The breakfast at the hotel was very good. We had that included the price. But they also have a nice lunch buffe for just 95sek. The room we ate breakfast and lunch is very beautiful. Tee and coffee for free when you want. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The hotel has spa but they didnt have any treatments at the time. We could use the spa room for free. Sauna and bubblepool. We also recommend the restaurant Pinchos right next the hotel. We recommend this hotel!

"Wonderful"
Mike B, 02 Août 2018

Booked last minute, very helpful staff on the phone and at reception. Booked with our dog and in the room was a dog bed two bowls and scooby snacks!! Clean room and great food. Yes there is no parking but we paid 30kr across the road. Recommend this especially to dog owners!!

"No parking"
jobmax2017, 14 Juin 2018

A nice Hotel with Old Time Charm in center of City. Fantastic Breakfast Room / Bar, like being in Monte Carlo. Room nice, but small (Basement, maybe rooms higher up is bigger?). Hotel was advertised with Parking. When we arrived we learned "Parking" was a 10-12 car "garage" in something that seemed to be a storage room. No space, so we had to use a Parking Garage near by, - - at a charge. Suggest the Hotel advertise that VERY limited parking facility.

"Vulnerable location, No parking."
Robbin H, 14 Juin 2018

After we arrived we were told there were no parking places for us, and the area did not look safe with gangs walking around nearby, i immediately wrote to Expedia to tell them about the situation, as i assumed that with gratis parking they would look after your car. Then i seen it was a first come first serve parking system. On our second night Saturday i managed to park into the Hotel wall not far from the reception and outside their kitchens, in the morning i was horrified to see a Brick had been thrown threw the window of our car, and all our belongings had been stolen. Talking to some locals on Saturday they said the hotel caters for outsiders and thats why locked up parking was not available, and why we could not get into the spa Saturday morning. One + was that breakfast was quite good.

"Nice atmosphere"
Anders M, 19 Mai 2018

It' something special with Best Western hotels. You don't know exactly what you get like when booking at a Choice, Scandic and so on. It's something personal about it and a bit more cosy. This hotel I really enjoyed, Quick and friendly service, good variety at the breakfast buffet including some locally produced.

"Goog"
JdSpy, 09 Septembre 2017

Nice hotel. Very nice atmosphere. Reasonable prices. Excellent breakfast. The people at reception is very nice and helpful. The rooms are a little bit small and there is no much space for storage if you travel with luggage other than a small or medium bag. The bathroom is renewed and with good space. Recommended.

"Good but small parking"
Alice N, 19 Août 2017

The hotel is close to the city center. The hall and the room where you have breakfast are peculiar, it really gives you the sensation of being in the foyer of a theater, which you can easily see when it's open. The room was nice but the parking lot was full because it is very small so we had to park along the street. You don't pay at night but just from 9.00 am.

"A short stop in Østersund"
Hans-Otto L, 19 Août 2017

Østersund was the next stop on our way. Hotel Old Theater was booked via Booking.com using mobile. Upon arriving at the hotel we were allocated a room in the basement without window, but I turned the door and contacted the service desk and got changed to a room on the first floor, but there was the main street right outside the window, with car traffic till late in the evening .... .The hotel is very old and has retained all of the original conveniences that represented a great atmosphere when you enjoyed a hearty and tasty breakfast in a solid old setting. Unfortunately, our room is one of the smallest rooms and with the most noise, of all the rooms we have rented during our short vacation in Sweden and Finland. We were told that we could park for free in the parking garage just outside the hotel with the hotel's card but upon check-out from the garage the card did not work for the hotel and I had to pay to get out of the garage :-(

"Good flair and breakfast, but depends on the room you get"
travelOlady, 19 Août 2017

We stayed here twice over the last month: the first time we had a very spacious room and loved it - there is some flair to this old building! The second time we had a rather tiny room (luckily not in the cellar, but definitely too small for two adults with a toddler) with some relatively loud fan/AC that could not be turned off because it was part of the overall ventilation system. Asking for another room we felt that the staff was quite unfriendly and unhelpful. Breakfast was lovely, and the spa with two hot tubs and a sauna is quite decent given the price range of the hotel. To summarise: if you pay attention to the room you get, it's a decent and reasonably priced option in Östersund.

"Theatrical "
Cityviewe, 17 Août 2017

Only had one night here, could have stayed longer with all the red velvet lounges and amazing chandelier. Staff couldn't have been better, we had a coffee maker in our room and had a tour as this hotel is an old theatre.

"Living on reputation"
Michael I, 02 Août 2017

This hotel is situated in the centre of the town and close to most of the amenities. It's history is that it used to be an old theatre and it appears to be living on that in order to promote its business. The entrance and reception area are fairly small but functional. There is a smallish bar area beyond which is quite dark and unlit. The decor in this room is dark red/crimson velvet curtains and seat covers, which is designed to match with the history of the building in theatre style. There are some interesting artefacts on the walls and within the room which are worth looking at. On our arrival the actual theatre and stage area were in use by the local society so it was interesting to watch some of the locals performing. This room is then used as the dining room in the evening time. Very spacious but again not well lit.. Unfortunately the food provided did not match the occasion and was very poor with little selection on the hot and cold buffet and what there was not very inviting. Breakfast the following morning ,taken in the bar area was a little better but could have been much better presented. As regards the bedroom,we had one on the ground floor adjacent to the main road. It was small, cramped and looked tired out and certainly in need of refurbishment. Certainly not the 4 star they try to make this property out to be. In summary the hotel has a history and they are attempting to retain the theatre side to that. However it is in desperate need of a refurbishment and upgrade to modern standards. I am sure there are better hotels in the town if you are intending to stay there

"lovely hotel,close to town,friendly stuff."
paul h, 30 Juillet 2017

Stayed at the hotel with my husband and two teenagers, the room was ok at the top floor. wifi was available and very good signal, breakfast is lovely and good choices. The hotel is close to town and walking distance to the lake, bus station is opposite, very vibrant atmosphere when we stayed as there was the city's main festival going at the time. You can use the spa, gym and Jacuzzi at the hotel which my boys loved, overall nice little niche hotel. staff are friendly and helpful, will definitely stay again.

"Not good"
Coffdrop60, 04 Juin 2017

We stayed as part of a group. First room was on ground floor and very warm and we were glad to change for an upstairs room where we could open the window straight onto the street! Rooms are very small with no space for luggage. Water was hot but flew everywhere and you have to put your arm under the water to adjust temp (and it was cold). Bathroom was swimming after my husband has his shower! Soap in dispenser ran out, milk for coffee was sour. Felt totally hemmed in. Let's hope brekky is better!

"Old theater atmosphere"
MauriceAG, 28 Mai 2017

Hotel has free parking and a parking garage. Friendly personnel at the desk and we got a room on the 3rd floor. The hallways and rooms have the same kund of atmosphere. The ventilation was a bit loud, but everything else was okay in our room. The breakfast was included but rather limited.

"3* hotel - 4 star prices"
Marnix B, 15 Avril 2017

This is a ok hotel for 1 night because of the breakfast. It is my opinion the hotel needs a thorough renovation. Rooms are old fashioned and shabby. The cleaning – clean bathroom and no dust under the bed - was ok but some items cannot be cleaner because of their age. Do not use the hair dryer for example. I had a single room on the 4th floor. The shower had no door at the front side which causes water all over the place. The car park is behind the hotel, the reception did not tell me about a back entrance, if there is one. The parking is free of charge which I great. The hotel is situated in the center of the town which allows you to see something of the city if you want to. It is 15 minutes from the airport. Next time I choose another place because of the high price in relation to the quality.

"Central and clean."
Hedvig M, 06 Avril 2017

Central hotel with a somewhat overvelming interior decoration. A lot of velvet! In tune with the building being the old theater of course. A bit old but clean. Nice people in the reception! Breakfast perfectly ok.

"Perfectly located in the middle of the town!!"
Lasse-Fia, 28 Novembre 2016

I always stay at this hotel when I go home to visit my relatives. It is not overly expensive and it has a special charm which I find attractive. The location is perfect. One thing to remember when booking: Do not reserve a room in the basement unless you don't like windows.

"Ultimate Building Conservation!"
blbttl74, 26 Novembre 2016

If you want to save the town theatre from being demolished and replaced by an office block this is how to do it. The Old Tiown Theatre has been converted into a Hotel by using theb rooms that were originally used by the travelling theatre companies when visiting the theatre. At the heart of the hotel the theatre remains and is still used for theatrical and cabaret performances. Breakfast is taken in what was/is the crush bar to the theatre BY CANDLELIGHT...it is an amazing experience and the breakfast is very good as well! If we had a complaint our room was over furnished with period furnishings but it was still very comfortable.

"Unorganised/Sexist"
Jennifer A, 09 Octobre 2016

The hotel hosted two events during the weekend we stayed there. Arriving to a rock consent with drunken visitors spilling their drinks and smoking indoors is not impressive. The breakfast lacked of freshness. In addition there was no gluten free or lactose free options. The manager explained that he has prioritised the two events before allergies. I was chocked over how inconsiderate and sexist he was. I will never return there rather pay double the price somewhere else than go back to that hotel and that kind of mindset!

"Nice small hotell in the city centre"
Andreas W, 08 Septembre 2016

This is a nice hotel located in an old theatre The service is good and the breakfast is nice. It is i the heart of the city centre of Östersund. I could recomend this for both business and pleasure. In the basement there is a really nice spa.

"Old-style hotel in the Old Theatre"
Stockholmare58, 15 Août 2016

Pleasant hotel in old cultural building, mainly the old Theatre. The original interior is enhanced in a time typical manner. At first I was offered a boring room without a window, in the basement, but it was no problem to change to a nicer room. Fairly small room. Deficit of space put things on: The small desk was covered with hotel stuff. Comfortable bed but no soft pillows. Quiet. Breakfast buffé with hot and cold dishes, was OK. Breakfast understaffed, hard to find a person when coffe needed to be refilled. Unpleasant front desk officer at check out was a drawback.

"Clean. Basic. Friendly. Smells of Fish."
HammockDweller, 05 Août 2016

I booked the Gamla Teatern a few hours before arriving in Ostersund, and suspect I got the last room in town, given that it was their annual music festival. The building is old, stuffy and tired, and had an all-permeating smell of fish for the duration of our stay. The room was small, quite stuffy, and had a mixed bag of furniture of various ages. However, the welcome was friendly, the staff keen to please, and the room was spotlessly clean. If the price of the room was a bit more like a UK hotel then I'd give it a fourth star, but something about Swedish hotel prices grates a little (I ended up paying nearly £200 for the night). And at a lower price I would stay again.

"Hotel Gamla Teatern Ostersund"
Janet G, 24 Juillet 2016

The hotel was once a theatre so had an old world atmosphere. The dinner was by candlelight in the theatre but the service was extremely slow. Breakfast next morning, in a lounge area, was also by candlelight which was not appropriate at 6.30 a.m. There was no fridge in the room. The curtains did not fit close to the windows so it was difficult to make the room dark.

"Unique Place to Stay"
JULIE M, 13 Juillet 2016

We were taking our yearly family trip to Sweden with our two 20-something children and their friends (a total of six of us which included four 20-somethings). We stayed in Stockholm for six nights then started heading up north via car. We stayed overnight in Ostersund because there is a Boda Borg in town and we wanted to take our children's friends since they had never been to a Boda Borg. We looked for a hotel that was a little out of the ordinary and we were not disappointed with BEST WESTERN Hotel Gamla Teatern. We had three rooms and while they were on the small side, we have no complaints. All of the rooms were uniquely decorated and had everything we needed. Breakfast is included and it is definitely one of the best hotel breakfasts we have had. I wish I would have taken more pictures inside the hotel. If we travel through Ostersund again, we won't hesitate to stay at BEST WESTERN Hotel Gamla Teatern.

"Unusual Hotel"
J D B, 03 Juillet 2016

Housed in a completely refurbished former theatre, the decor is more Victorian than anything else.....red velvet seating and chandeliers in the inside dining room. My room was comfortable, furnished in old world style, and clean. The hotel is located in the center of the city, just a short walk from the pedestrianised main street. Breakfast was complete with hot and cold offerings. For me, the hotel did not represent either old world or modern Scandinavia, and I would probably chose to stay elsewhere on a return visit.

"For those who aren't fancy "
PetrasLisauskas, 12 Juin 2016

Me as an actor:o) just love this place!!! It was an old theatre turned in to a hotel. They kept the style!!! Rooms are small, clean. My room is with windows to main street, yes I do hear cars passing by but for me it's not a problem. Locations is really good. For example last week I was staying in 4stars hotel in Zagreb and this one here I like more. So if you like some stay with style -go for it :)

"Part of our tour package"
JillConnecticut, 10 Juin 2016

After long train trip from Stockholm we arrived in time for dinner. The setting in the former theater was charming and unique but the one course salmon dinner seemed under whelming. Our room was very small so had to step over my suitcase to get to the bathroom. The staff does not speak much English but we're helpful in supplying me with rope when my suitcase zipper broke!

"Budget room - but not value for money"
StigBS, 27 Mai 2016

Price was ok, but the room was not great. Beds were ok, and bathroom small but functional. Windows went into a conference room, so not much fresh air. Woke up with a headache. Nice breakfast, and overall a cosy place. But don't do the budget room...

"Nice weekend away. Good breakfast!"
Gummi-ice, 10 Février 2016

This was my first time in Östersund and stayed at the Best western hotel. This hotel is very central and easy to find as it stands on one of the main streets. When you walk in the feel is very old fashion and it's quite nice and it carries the team of an old theater very well. The bedroom was decent for a single room and it had a good sized bathroom. The breakfast in the morning was very good. Good selection of everything you want or needed. Will definitely come back to this hotel next time I'm in Östersund.

"Godd sleep but a tired breakfast"
Tord E, 24 Octobre 2015

Stayed at Hotel Gamla Teatern in Östersund for a single night. The check in was quick and the staff helpful. My room was not large. In fact a little surprising that they chose to squeeze in a double bed, armchair AND desk with chair in this small space. The free floor space cannot have exceeded 2 sq/m. There was no closet, this had been substituted for very small wall behind which four hangers were hidden. The bathroom was clean, but despite a ground floor room there was absolutely no water pressure, which made showering time consuming. Breakfast was not too thrilling. I had hoped for samples of local produce but everything looked plain. Or was this because of the very dim lighting in the breakfast room? Location of the hotel was very good. It is located next to the bus terminal which allows for easy access to the airport shuttle bus. Sums up as a budget hotel with clean but smallish rooms, that unfortunately stops serving lunch too early.

"Beautiful decor, small rooms"
Edward S, 21 Octobre 2015

Sweet old house with a nice decor in dark colors within the red, brown and gold scales. Crystal chandeliers, velvet furnitures and charming old, worn rugs. Cleaning could be better: funky smell and a thick layer of dust on bathroom sink and WC. Maybe no one had stayed in this room for a while? Also, some of the light bulbs didn't work and needed to be replaced. No refrigerator. Wi-fi worked well. Really, really small room (the usual Best Western room). The bed were too soft and sounds from the street disturbed my sleep. Breakfast was overall good but lactose free dairy products were not kept cold. Typical Swedish service-standard: staff treats you OK but doesn't really make you feel welcome or even wishes you a good stay. Next time in Östersund I will try another hotel.

"Nice hotel in 20's style"
CHRACH, 27 Juillet 2015

A nice hotel by the center of Östersund. The hotel and rooms are kept in a authentic 20ies style. The breakfast buffet offers a lot of choices and fresh products in a stylish ambiente. The single room i had was not too big but enough for one person on a quick stay.

"Nightmare!!"
JMO8712, 23 Juillet 2015

We wanted to go to Østersund with our little boy for a nice summer-holidaytrip. We found this hotel, and it looked ok at the website. We arrived around 5 pm, and then our room wasn't ready. The cleaner haven't even started cleaning it the lady told us. So we asked how long it would take until our room was ready, so she went to ask the guy. He started cleaning it now, so it wont take long, she said. 5 minutes later and the room was ready. . . . When we came into the room it was more like a tiny dollhouse, it was so small!!! We had to move furnitures out in the hall to even have room for our 1-yearolds bed! The air in the room was horrible! We opened windows, but with the traffic outside we couldn't have it open, because it sounded like the cars was driving inside the room. Neither of the 3 of us got any sleep that night! So we complained and wanted another room (we wanted to give the hotel another try). We asked for a bigger room, and asked if there was anything to do with the air. It was not. We got a room that was a tiny bit bigger than the last one, but away from the traffic at least. We had the windows wide open hours before bedtime, and open during the night, but still, the air was horrible! I haven't experienced that air ever! Our babyboy got sick, caughing and runny nose. I'm pretty sure it was because of the air! 2 nights with no sleep! We are in bad mood, because we feel like our whole trip got destroyed by this horrible hotel. So we decided to check-out! We went down the street to Scandic Hotel, and compared to Gamla Teatern, Scandic was like heaven!! The lady that was in the reception at Best Western, also cleaned the tables and served food during breakfast, so it was long time for all that wanted to check in/out to wait for her. The whole hotel was old and dark with bad air. No windows where the food is served, and badsmelling carpets everywhere! I will never ever go back there, and I really will NOT recommend this hotel for anybody! Stay away, it is not worth the money!!!

"Novel setting, reasonable overnight stay"
VFLondon, 19 Juillet 2015

We arrived in time to catch the Sunday lunch jazz afternoon, which was fun in the sunshine, with lots of people-watching opportunities. The building is fascinating and generally more appealing than the bedrooms. Ours was dark, rather stuffy and had a surfeit of crumbling furniture. The bed was OK for one night. We had to have the small window open for some air, but that meant lots of road noise. It would have been uncomfortable for more than a single, overnight stay. Some upgrading is overdue! The upside of our overnight stay was a decent candlelit dinner in the old auditorium and a good breakfast at an earlier-than-usual time to fit in with the Inlandsbanan train. Staff on duty were very friendly and patient in the circumstances. WiFi is free but erratic.

"Quaint but not great"
Colin A, 13 Juillet 2015

Like a lot of other reviewers we arrived latish one night as part of a group of 35 and left early next morning so this review is based on a very short stay. The hotel is a converted theatre and we ate dinner in grand settings within the theatre itself. The food was OK but it took quite a time to serve it. We were down for breakfast at 6am in order to catch our train so earlier than the official start time for breakfast. In the circumstances they did well to get breakfast ready for us at all but the choice was a bit more limited than other hotels we stayed in, possibly as a result of our early departure? The staff were very friendly but it took a long time to check in and out so their systems seemed a bit slow and the room was quite cramped and a bit tired looking.

"Dinner by candlelight"
Linda B, 30 Juin 2015

We spent one night here as part of organised tour. Our arrival was late in evening so meal in the lovely setting of the theatre and good food was most welcome. We had an early morning start but staff provided a good breakfast selection for us all. Our room was small but comfortable.
