Stayed for one night to attend nearby party, Hotel spotlessly clean public areas and bedroom, very quiet room with air conditioning, nice bar,the staff were efficient and friendly, with nothing too much bother, real fast was plentiful even if the sausages looked a little anaemic but plenty of bacon to make up for it, all in all excellent hotel for the price range.

Exceptional friendly service every single day of my 2 week stay. All staff were extremely helpful and accomodating offering consistent levels of friendly, prompt service making every day a pleasure to stay away from home which I don't like doing but work commitments dictate. Breakfast was good, dinner (starters, main & deserts were great. This is a 'home from home' hotel, no frills as you'd expect from a 3 star hotel but cleanliness, service and restaurant give the impression of a 4 star hotel. Would recommend and will be staying again.

We booked a double room but got a three single bedded room with a very noisy air conditioning unit just below our window. I complained and was told the hotel was booked up. Where was the room I booked through Expedia? Ah someone has just booked out! A quiet shoebox, no bath but shower was allocated. So no choice! We didn't dare stay for dinner but I asked the receptionist if it was a single room. 1 handtowel, mug, toiletries .. Her reply was we don't have single rooms. Dis she give me the stuff required? NOOO! In the morning when I booked outand complained yet again, the Housekeeper was there and confirmed that the room was usually allocated to singles. End of!! No refund?

"Second choice"

We chose this hotel because the one we usually stay at nearby was fully booked. All we needed was a quiet and comfortable hotel for the night. We arrived mid afternoon and the car park was already quite full. The first thing we noticed was balloons in the entrance hall indicating a party or celebration of some kind. It was a very hot day and on check-in I noticed a cupboard with several desk fans. We were allocated a room on the first floor opposite the lift. The room was clean and tidy if a little cluttered by furniture but it looked ok for an overnight stay. The bathroom was large by comparison but the decor was a bit dated, although perfectly adequate. Despite the very hot weather there was no fan in the room so I decided to call reception to ask for one. No one answered my call and I had to go down to reception. They said they would bring one up and when we returned later in the evening it was indeed in our room and switched on. The room overlooks a small courtyard and music from the party was blaring out, making it difficult to hear the television. The manager informed us that the doors to the courtyard would be closed at 10pm and people would be asked to move inside. To be fair to the management this is exactly what happened although a few chose to continue to sit outside and talk. Another problem was not being able to connect to the internet. The manager put this down to a problem with the WiFi router which he tried to resolve and we then had limited access. The extractor fan in the bathroom did not appear to work and the shower ran hot and cold. We rang reception three times for different reasons but we never got a reply. We probably would have had breakfast there the following morning but as we had a reasonably early start, given the amount of people staying at the hotel we decided against it as we couldn't risk being late. On the plus side the manager was very helpful and tried his best to resolve any issues we had. I think we may have been unlucky choosing such a busy time but for the time being we would only use this hotel as a back up.

The good points: Lovely location. My room was very clean. Good TV. Tea tray well stocked (when I found it hidden in a cupboard). Good hairdryer. Very modern bathroom. All of the staff were polite, welcoming and friendly. Evening meal was fine but choice a bit limited. Public areas rooms well kept. The bad: mattress was simply awful as were the thin pillows. If I had had to stay more than two nights, I would have looked for another hotel as the mattress was dreadful. Too many of the staff were having to multi-task. The bath, whilst clean and modern, is quite unsafe as the base is too smooth and is thus very slippery - a case of design over function. Breakfast, a hot and cold buffet, could be vastly improved especially for the price - too many things had been left in the hot trays for far too long. For £12.50, they really should be cooking hot breakfasts to order, and use better quality ingredients. Walls of the rooms are quite thin!

"A very pleasant surprise"

Picked this hotel based purely on price and location for a one night stopover on our way down to Wales on 22nd Juneand so glad we did. The location is amazing and our room had a beautiful view over open farmland. We arrived late on a Friday night and as they weren't particularly busy there was only one person manning reception and bar but he was really friendly and helpful. The room was excellent for the price. We stayed in Bridgend the following night at a hotel that cost twice as much and was nowhere near as good. We had the buffet breakfast the following morning and there was a large selection of both hot and cold options at a very reasonable price. The lady serving in the restaurant was as friendly and welcoming as the man on the previous evening. This hotel and its staff are a credit to the Best western brand.

I have to be honest, amazing does not come close to describing this place. Not only do you have the friendliest staff you have some beyond words brilliantly made dishes. I had the chicken supreme with a side salad and every bite has been delicious. The location is ideal and quiet with a comfortable bed and sufficient parking. I would highly recommend this for a business trip.

"Great hotel with amazing staff"

We have just returned from a stay at this hotel as we were attending a wedding in the area. We didn't know the area at all we needed two rooms to stay over for two nights and would be spending quite a lot of the time not in the room we opted for a hotel based on quite a low price so our expectations were not that high. On check in we were greeted by 2 very friendly members of staff who confirmed that a cot had been put into one of the rooms. The rooms were quite spacious and my husband who spends a lot of his time in hotels with his job was impressed that there were 2 chairs in the room and it was quite well lit as most hotels he goes to often don't even have a chair for when he is trying to work in his room. We had evening meal which was really delicious and the chef even made homemade fish fingers for my little 21 month grandaughter as there was no actual kids menu. Rooms were quite hot but when I rang down they provided both rooms with fans. Overall we had a great stay here with great breakfasts lovely grounds with a small play area for children and excellent customer service especially from a young lady called Kaisa.would definitely return to this hotel. Excellent value for money.

"Disappointing"

Whilst the room was relatively clean, it smelled damp/mouldy. I only stayed one night but would have requested a different room if I had to stay any longer. The bed wasn't particularly comfortable, we only had one flat pillow each. In the early morning I could hear noises in adjacent rooms, TVs on, doors banging. The breakfast was disappointing. The bacon was dripping in grease, the scrambled eggs were overcooked and dry, the ‘continental' selection of meats and cheeses was abysmal - some anaemic looking cold meat and Babybells! I would have been disappointed had the breakfast been included in the bill; however, this was an additional £8.50 - I should have gone to a nearby pub or cafe with that cash instead. I wouldn't stay again.

"Affordable but poor service"

First of all the hotel was okay, clean, but nothing to get excited about. The main issues were the general service provided, which was entirely due to the fact that there was only one staff member front of house, which resulted in long delays when checking in, long delays in the bar, and twice during dinner I had to leave the restaurant to find him to get a drink. He wasn't to blame, but to try and run a hotel, bar and restaurant with one staff member will inevitably result in poor service. As regards the meal, I would echo the comments of a previous reviewer in that there seemed to be a little confusion in the kitchen - my wife ordered an asian style marinated tuna with stir fry vegetables, and got reasonable tuna on a small bed of stir fry - but also sitting on the plate was a large portion of boiled carrots! That said , my steak was fine and although overcooked did the job. Not somewhere we will return to, not terrible but nondescript and the poor service was a real turn off.

"Very Expensive, Poor Service"

Stayed 3 days for business. Supposed to be an executive room. The size and decor was quite nice, however it overlooked the courtyard in the middle of the hotel and the Kitchen Ventilation. The air con was broken and not fixed despite complaint so window had to be open as it was very hot, kitchen was noisy. Wi Fi in rooms is hopeless, but adequate in the bar. This was NOT an executive room and very expensive. I have been on the road for 35 years and this represents terrible value.

"Good hotel"

We have stayed here a few times and always enjoy our stay. A very friendly welcome. Our standard room was very clean and comfortable. It was spacious and had a good hospitality tray. For breakfast there was a good selection of yogurts, cereals, fresh fruit, etc. The cooked breakfast has plenty of choice, is self service and could have been hotter. Plenty of parking available.

"Great Hotel"

Excellent place to stay and reasonable priced - staff very friendly and helpful - rooms immaculately clean and beds are very comfortable. Nice quiet location and plenty of parking. Restaurant serves really good food which is reasonable priced. The only downside was my room was above the main entrance to the right and there is a smoking area which is just outside the bar area - as it was very hot it meant i couldn't open the window as the smoke smell was coming into my room. I would definitely stay here again but would request a room away from the smoking area.

"Good Value"

I used during a business trip and must admit it was good value ,but there was a couple of issues, The room I was given must have had paper walls as I got woken at 4am to the sound of the person in the next room using the toilet and without going into detail it was not just the flush I could hear,and the first time I heard it I thought someone was using my toilet and I jumped out of bed to investigate and found the walls to be lacking any sound proofing. The Tv system was also a little temperamental as kept getting an error message whilst trying to realax and watch the TV. The staff where really pleasant and the restaurant was good with a good varied menu, Also

"OK, but poor value and bizarre evening meal menu"

The hotel is purpose-built and situated in a semi-rural situation, well back from a busy road, so there is no audible traffic noise within the hotel. The grounds are nicely landscaped, with a stream meandering down the west side of the site to a deep pond. This would have been a nice place to sit, had it not been next to the road. The hotel has been fitted out to a good standard, though with an eye to being low-maintenance, as a result of which some of the hotel spaces are very bland (such as the courtyard). Our bedroom was of a good size, but has some maintenance defects, such as a washbasin plug that would not open properly, and a defective fan, that was extraordinarily noisy. Although the breakfasts were good, though the evening meal menu I could only describe as bizarre. We had two meals there, and my wife did not enjoy either. I thought £15 for a beef-burger was overpriced. My impression was of a capable chef who was preparing dishes without fully understanding how they are supposed to taste. I thought the hotel was overpriced. Something seems to have gone wrong with the booking, with one night being much more expensive than the other - something we were not expecting, as we don't think we received a booking confirmation by email. Given the disappointing meals, it was poor value for what we paid, and we would not go there again.

"Excellent modestly priced hotel"

We booked this hotel for an overnight stay following a wedding at nearby (only 15 minutes' drive) Wasing Hall. Set in a charmingly landscaped garden, the large room, the same size as a typical Premier Inn room and at least as well appointed, was a snip at £52.50 including breakfast for two. Recommended.

"Cheap and cheerful "

Stayed here for 1 night as we went to a 50th birthday party - cant grumble about anything. Room was good and slept very well ( could of been due to alcohol lol ). Breakfast was good and I would say here again. Staff are lovely.

"Sat here with ear plugs in"

The staff here are great. The food was fab. The peroni is great. The hotel is not. The WiFi is dreadful, it's taken an hour to post this review. I'm in the room next to the lift and the noise of the lift is jarring, even with ear plugs in. I have asked; there are no alternative rooms.

nice quiet location in lovely grounds, rooms were clean and fresh and the bathroom was modern and light. Food was good with plenty of choice and staff were friendly and helpful. "Cheap & did the job"

Stayed here for a family wedding that was taking place just down the road. My family & I booked three rooms here at a very good price for a Friday night. We decided to stay the Thursday night also which was a lot more expensive surprisingly. Our room was quite spacious but tv didn't work. Spent 15 mins turning on and off and looking at different options on the remote. My boyfriend managed to get it working but I had to live without it on the Saturday morning as he left early and I had no idea how to get it on. Beds were very firm and very flat pillows. Might suit some people but I didn't sleep well. Breakfast was ok for the price we paid. Small station of scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon etc. And a toaster that was broken - they had a wooden stick that you had to stick into the toaster as the bread would get stuck haha! All in all it was somewhere for us to sleep and was a good price.

"60th Birthday Party"

A lovely venue and great staff! Months leading up to the event, the manager started to build our party taking into account our specific requests. Nothing was too much trouble and good price for the venue, DJ and set menu for 48 people. Food was excellent and good portion size. Team helped with set up the afternoon before the event and we were able to store our cake in the cool storage area. The night team did a great job clearing the room and the tones of confetti we left! THANK YOU! Great room rates for party guests which included a wonderful breakfast. Small perk as the organisers, we had a lovely clean, modern and large room with a beautiful countryside view! The birthday girl was very happy with her birthday celebrations, a day she won't forget! Thank you to the team at The West Grange Hotel! HIGHLY recommended!

"Friendly staff and nice rooms"

We have stayed at the hotel three times and found the staff to be helpful and everything clean and tidy. The restaurant food was good on each occasion. The heating and the air conditioning is very easy to control and it warms up very fast on those cold winter days.

"Very poor. Avoid this hotel."

I arrived on Tuesday 6 February 2018, a very cold day. My car temperature display said it was 1°C outside. I went to my room on the ground floor which was cold and found that the radiator was completely turned off. I turned it on to maximum but the room inevitably took hours to warm up (I arrived at around 5.00 pm and it was still cool by the time I went to bed at around 11.00 pm). The radiator was under the window. What is wrong with that you ask. Well, nothing. What was wrong, in fact rather stupid, was that the thick lined curtains extended to the floor so that when drawn they completely covered the radiator. Fortunately the window recess was quite deep so I was able to roll up each curtain from the bottom and tuck the excess on to the window sill so as to expose the radiator. There was also a net curtain over the window suspended from a spring-loaded rod. Trouble was the window recess was the same width as the rod so the spring was not compressed and it relied on friction to keep it up, or rather not as it kept falling off. Later I tried to order some room service. I dialled the number four or five times over a period of ten minutes or so without answer so I went to the restaurant to place my order instead. There were three staff and two or three people eating, so why nobody was able to answer the phone is a mystery. My room had two single beds. The pillow (one on each bed) and each duvet were very thin so the fact that there were two beds was fortunate. I had to use both pillows and both duvets in order to be comfortable and warm enough. The next morning I went to breakfast. It was self-service which is not a problem. I chose sausage, bacon, mushrooms, beans, hash brown. No fried eggs available, only that horrible lumpy, industrial scrambled egg stuff that many hotels offer so I ignored it. The food was in dishes with the usual hot lamps above. Despite this, the food (all of it) was barely warm. I didn't have much time so I ate it. I mentioned it to a member of staff who replied somewhat disinterestedly "Oh, sorry about that buddy". Buddy!!?? I suggested that he might like to test it himself to see how poor it was. He said "Its not for me to do that buddy". I asked if he would do anything about it (thinking that he might at least tell the chef, perhaps even replace all the food) to which he replied "I can ask the chef to cook you something fresh buddy". By this time I was seething, not only at his total disinterest but also at being called buddy three times (I am 59, not some lad and this guy was in his thirties at least). I said that I had to go so I quickly finished and left. Folks, avoid this hotel at all costs. I was attending a training course and mentioned to a colleague who lives nearby where I had stayed. She replied that had I mentioned to her that I was planning to stay there she would have warned me not to as it has a poor reputation locally. So, there it is folks. None of this is made up or exaggerated. This was my experience of staying at this hotel. I won't be returning.

"Good for a stop over"

Clean rooms and friendly, helpful staff make for a good first impression. Some of the room decor is a bit 90's so ideal for a practical stop over but maybe not a romantic getaway. Stop here regularly for business travel the night before so don't spend much time at the desk, but the WiFi isn't particularly great if you're in a hurry, but it does work. Overall it's priced around the same as all the local hotels, and is only a few miles from Newbury centre.

"Not ideal for business "

The hotel is very nice, clean and the staff are friendly. The food is of a high quality and the choice is very good. The rooms however are extremely hot, even without the heating on. If you require/expect to conduct any work with the use of the internet do not count on it here. The Wi-fi is at best extremely poor, and even with an Ethernet connection it's very poor.

"Very helpful"

I was attending a morning funeral nearby after a journey of more than 2 hours. My wife and I arrived early and thought we'd go for some breakfast. Other places nearby wouldn't serve as it was too late for breakfast and too early for lunch. The Best Western not only invited us in but allowed us free access to unused breakfast items in the buffet and we only had to pay for the coffees. It wasn't the saving money that impressed me it was the friendliness shown by the staff. Well done Grange Hotel

Brought a coach load of people to this hotel, and from arriving at the hotel to leaving, it was such a lovely hotel, the staff were so friendly and helpful, and the rooms were to a high standard, had a lovely sleep and to finish it off the food was outstanding

I don't usually write a review but for this hotel ( aka bedsit) I will make an exception. After a very busy day I quickly phoned my wife to book me a hotel to where I'll be working the next day. She asked where and stupidly said a best western near pangbourne. On arrival I found it cost £99 to stay here a night. Must be good I thought! On getting to my room which is next to the lift I open the door to cream dull room with a bed that looked uninviting with 2 flat pillows. The kettle was in one those in build tray types and the kettle was plugged into an extension cable hung on the wall, which was hinden by the curtains( is this a fire hazard?), I had to follow the cable back around the cupboard the TV was perched on, and reach behind to turn the switch on, for the kettle at which point the TV also came on! The bed wobbles and when next door goes to the toilet the extractor fan is louder than in the room I was in. The bathroom had a corner shower which is 750mm x 750 MM. and you can struggle getting in through the smal doors I'm not a big bloke but I struggled, and when doors are closed expect to bang your elbow a few times. The shower fluctuates between burning hot and cold. The windows are drafty, and on these cold nights it's not good enough for £99 a night, this is a bedsit at best which you would pay £99 a week for. Best western should be ashamed they have this in their portfolio even at this extreme price. I will not be booking with them again, and if this is published then please stay clear of this bedsit.

I stayed here for just one evening as I was on a course nearby the following day. I have stayed in this area before but not at this hotel. I was pleasantly surprised at the whole stay here and will definitely try and book here again when I am next in thatcham. Check in was easy, my room was spacious and nicely furnished with a good sized bed, additional pillows, spare duvet, TV, tea, coffee, etc. The bathroom was also a good size, with a nice shower. All the staff that I encountered were very pleasant- I had a meal in the restaurant and drinks in the bar both of which had a very relaxed atmosphere. My meal was lovely, I decided on the fillet of fish which was probably one of the best pieces of plaice I have had- my impression is that it was fresh from market that day! The prices are very reasonable and accompanied by generous portions. Breakfast was also good, with fresh fruit, yoghurts, the usual English cooked bits, toast, pastries, meats, etc, some of which you don't always find at the buffet in this type of hotel. It is clear to me that the Staff and management here make the effort to make your stay a good experience and I have no hesitation in recommending a stay here if you are in the area. My reason for the 4 star rating is that I was in a ground floor room and my window locks were a bit insecure and you can also hear people in the surrounding rooms, which can be the case in the older top end hotels as well, this wouldn't put me off from staying here though.

Good welcome. We booked a standard double room. Very clean and very comfortable. Size of room and bathroom good. Good variety of cereals, yogurts, fruits etc. Cooked breakfast self service - could have been warmer.

"A hidden gem"

I wasnt looking for anything special for my long weekend visit to Thatcham, but have to say, I was super impressed and delighted to uncover this little gem of a hotel! The hotel location is set back from the town hustle and bustle, in beautifully kept grounds, and the service from start to finish was second to none. There were very smiley faces and hellos from all staff throughout the whole hotel which was great. I have to mention Gemma on the reception who was just the most welcoming person I've met, super friendly and was always going out of her way to make my stay great! If you can, I highly recommend spending the little extra to upgrade to an executive room. My room was incredible, with a view onto the lucious green fields to the back, with only the rabbits looking in on you as you get dressed. Brand new TV, FREE wifi, lots of storage space, & the bathroom had clearly just been refurbished so it was wonderfully modern and extremely clean (although i'm slightly unsure on the square toilet fad in these modern bathrooms, bottoms are ROUND, it was tricky landing my rather large round one in the right place on the seat!!) The room certainly had the wow factor! I'm not the tidiest of people, but upon my return the cleaners had made a wonderful job of making it welcoming again - the complimentary hot chocolate is worth the price of the room alone - where is that miracle stuff from?! I contemplated the room service as the menu prices are excellent, but unfortunately fell asleep mid-decision as the bed was seriously comfy. I've read a few reviews saying it is noisy, I cannot relate to this at all. It was very, very quiet and didnt hear any neighbouring rooms watching Jeremy Kyle in the morning. Clearly you can tell it was a fantastic stay and I would recommend this fantastic hotel to everyone!

"Nice quiet hotel"

Hotel is located in a nice quiet area close to thatchem. Rooms aren't to bad however double rooms is two singles pushes together with double sheets on. The walls are paper thin so if you have any loud people bet door good luck. The wifi in this hotel is the worse out a lot of hotels I've stayed in. The food is very good and price for what you get. Friendly helpful staff. Overall poor wifi and thin walls.

"Couple of days away"

We stayed for two nights on a visit to Highclere Castle. We booked an executive room as thought we would treat ourselves All I can say is would hate to see a standard room. The bathroom had recently been refurbished but the toilet filler valve was faulty letting water through constantly and doing this very noisily. I did tell reception but nothing was done about it. There is a lot of rooms and we could hear everything that was happening in our next doors bathroom, not particularly nice especially at 6.30 in the morning when you would expect to be woken up by bird song. This is clearly not a family hotel but one that caters for conferences and workmen. I will tell the Best western booking site that this should be told to customers. It is cheap, the food is good, very clean and the staff very helpful but still I stress not for families or couples. Could be best described as cheap and cheerful!!

"Great value for money "

Stayed here after attending a friend's wedding.. Getting here was a bit of a struggle as Google shows the hotel is in the totally different place in the middle of the field so beware... We got here a little before midnight, a very nice chap at the reception quickly checked us in, which was very welcome as we were quite tired. The room itself was a pleasant surprise, it was spacious, clean and clearly recently refurbished. We had a good night sleep, no noises coming from other rooms or from the road. Definitely would recommend as it is a great value for money!

"Good value"

Set back from the main road the hotel is ideally position for High Clere Castle and Newbury. A polite friendly welcome from the gentleman at reception was followed by our satisfaction with rooms which were spacious modern and spotless.We chose not to have our evening meal there as there was not a vegetarian menu.We took a walk to the coach and horses and then had a delightful countryside twenty minute walk back to the hotel. The breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice and charming helpful staff.Would return

We stayed for a few days. The staff were all polite and very helpful. The room had 3 single beds which was perfect for my husband myself and our daughter. There wasn't air con in our room so it was very warm but you can ask for a fan from reception. The shower was a bit tricky to work aswell.

The Best Western West Grange Hotel is in a lovely location, though easy to miss because its signage is so far back off the road, and is actually almost hidden in the bushes when approaching from the Thatcham direction. It is set well back from the busy A4 road with a lovely garden area with flowing stream and pond and surrounded by fields. As others have said, it is a noisy hotel, with little thought given to sound insulation, that said, the rooms are very comfortable and well appointed, the showers powerful and there is ample hot water. However, there is no air-conditioning (though a fan can be got from reception) which meant the room was hot and stuffy, even with the windows wide open. The reception staff are very good, being cheerful and helpful, as were all the house staff we met. I am afraid the same could not be said for the two lads who were on breakfast. They stooped over the tables with their shirts hanging out and refused to engage in any sort of conversation. There was no assistance offered unless asked for, and no effort to check back and make sure we had what we needed and everything was OK. We were asked if we wanted tea or coffee on arrival in the restaurant for breakfast, this was usually on the table before we got back from the buffet with our breakfast and was therefore often only tepid by the time we got to drink it. The breakfast buffet is always a difficult thing. The food is usually either tepid or dry, here it succeeded in being both. The cold buffet didn't fare much better, the yogurt was warm, the meat slices dry at the edges and one morning there was actually mould on an item of ‘fresh' fruit. There is a lovely looking courtyard in the centre of the hotel, with an attractive water feature and comfortable-looking lounging chairs and tables – but you can't use it! The weather was lovely most days and it would have been nice to take our breakfast out there – but the cold buffet table is set up across the doors, preventing any access. When we asked at reception, we were informed that, because there are bedrooms adjacent to it, it can't be used! What a waste of space – especially as the only other outside space with tables is the ‘beer garden' where residents (and staff) go and smoke – a real off-put if you don't smoke yourself. We didn't venture to eat an evening meal here based on their breakfasts. Overall, if you want a bed for the night it is perfect, for a longer stay – forget it, go somewhere else.

"Family Trip"

The booking was made on behalf of family whom were attending a funeral, the staff provided excellent service and an understand of the circumstances. Not your usual trip report but it shows a kinder side to hoteliers and this establishment covered all the bases. I use this hotel for business and get the exact same attention and service whenever I stay there.

"Poor, Non Vegi friendly place"

Not so clean, no air con, and kitchen not willing to help vegetarian guest basic vegetarian menu and food is to a poor standard. Hotel room wasn't very clean and towels dirty.... cracked switches and stained bathrooms. Defiantly wouldn't stay here again. And if your a vegetarian better of going to a premier inn as they will cater to your needs.

Very comfortable stay and very reasonable price. Clean new bathroom with powerful shower. Very helpful staff and great breakfast! The rooms were clean and comfortable. The hotel has a nice bar and restaurant with an area outside for kids and outside bar area!

"Afternoon Tea following my Father's Funeral "

Booked afternoon tea plus strawberries and cream plus drinks for 12 following my father's funeral. No service, asked to pour tea/coffee ourselves, no bowls or spoons for strawberries and cakes were the cheapest from a supermarket for £10 per head. Query regarding VAT as cakes obviously from nearby supermarket. Event cannot be repeated. Made a sad day even worse.

"Good service poor nights sleep"

I stayed here as a friend was having a 40th birthday near by. When I checked in the service was great. Nice and friendly from the guy behind the counter. My room looked clean. However that's when the good stuff ended. The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable, which meant a poor nights sleep, but on top of that the hotel is so badly sound proofed I could hear doors slamming all night. I could hear people's conversations in other rooms and in the corridor. I could even hear people plugging and unplugging their devices in the room next door. It was a very poor nights sleep. Only thing that made it bearable was the great shower in the morning.

"Quiet - therefore lovely!"

We were at this hotel for 2 nights while attending a family event. The first night (Friday) we had dinner in the restaurant: not a vast menu and portion size too big for us but well cooked and presented. Our room was at the back overlooking a lovely large field and even with windows open, and therefore sound travelling from TVs, we were fortunate that residents went to bed at a reasonable time and the quiet was very welcome. Staff were very good and when something went wrong it was quickly put right. Plenty of parking and wifi works! Room very clean.

My husband and I had a Groupon deal for this hotel and didn't know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised. The room was clean and the staff were excellent. The grounds were really beautiful too. We spent one day in Windsor which was about 30mins away by car. I would highly recommend his hotel. Location is good and the grounds are also nice and relaxing.

"Great Value"

Nice clean hotel well situated between reading and thatcham. The resteraunt is nice and convenient for evening meal if staying for business, the breakfast is very good with a wide choice. For a short stop over you cannot fault this hotel. Would be nice to have gym facilities on site but then the price of stay reflects that.

"Rooms a bit tired"

Visited and stayed here many times with work, the rooms are getting tired but are clean and comfortable. The staff are very friendly, polite and helpful. The food is good and is very quick, slightly too quick for a couple of my colleague whose spring rolls were not fully cooked. Breakfast has a good selection and is also of s good quality.

"Realaxing Weekend"

Just spent a relaxing weekend at West Grange Hotel, near Reading. The food was delicious, loads of choice on the buffet at breakfast (the scrambled egg was creamy and delicious). Very good service, and our room was comfortable, quiet and spotless.

"Comfortable stay"

Our second visit here. This time we stayed in a standard double room. It was very clean, comfortable and adequate. The room and bathroom were a good size. The breakfast was very good. Very quiet. A very good choice of fruits, yogurts, cereals etc. Self service hot breakfast. We received much better service in the restaurant than on our previous visit. I will stay here again.

Stayed here multi times with British gas. I've never had a problem here. Clean comfy rooms food is nice and massive portions. Only negative is the nearest town if you want a night to is a way off. Staff always try and keep you happy and no dramas requesting anything.

I stay in this hotel almost every month and I am never disappointed. Reception staff are very courteous and friendly. The bedrooms are smart and very clean. The restaurant is very good and service is quick. Staff are attentive and pleasant. The breakfast menu is good and varied I look forward to each stay knowing a good night sleep is guaranteed.

Visited this hotel at the end of October as our friends and I were going to Newbury for the races. We stayed for a Friday night and a Saturday night. the rooms were spotless and everything you would need, and an added bonus we had a shower and a bath. The bed was very large and so comfortable. We had a tv and tea/coffee making facilities. The breakfast was wonderful, there was a fried breakfast, fruit, cereal, youghurts, toast and jams, croissants and even fresh salmon. It was a buffet so eat as much as you want. Staff were very attentive and friendly. We did have problems with noisy neighbours one night, but as soon as we phoned reception the manager was up and spoke to the neighbours, we didn't hear another word. I would recommend this hotel and would visit again.

We had booked two nights at a weekend. As this venue tends to be business orientated, we found it very quiet - in fact we were the only car there when we arrived. Obviously, a lot of people don't know what they are missing! We went for a superior room - and it was very good. Spacious, clean, well stocked and very comfortable. The staff could not have been more helpful, friendly and welcoming. On our first morning, we were virtually the only people at breakfast. So we had food direct from the kitchen. Twice we were asked if we would like a top-up, being assured that there was plenty more delicious food if we required. Carefully thinking of our waistline, we twice declined. We also had two evening meals here. Both well cooked,tasty and well priced. On our second night, I ordered fresh battered cod. Are we by the coast? Not exactly!! But the cod was really fresh - and cooked in a very light batter. Delicious. Each Best Western is independently managed and they are a mid-range franchise, however, although they vary, we have always found them of a good and reliable standard. The West Grange is a good example and we will happily return. Thank you all for a very enjoyable stay.

Started from poor customer service, rude staff mistakes in the kitchen when ordering food, food came out at different times just avoid at all costs, id of rather slept in my car, breakfast is also horrible.

Best western are the best chain reasonably priced hotels. Service, rooms (bed nice and firm) , cleanliness etc are all good and as expected forBest western. Handy for my work and in the country side. Food is reasonable and keenly priced and nice budget wine selection is great for my taste buds and company expenses?? . I regularly stay here and recommend the hotel.

The hotel seems new but still inviting, good parking facilities within a peaceful setting. Bar and restaurant facilities are adequate with friendly professional staff. The food leaves little to complaint about, friendly atmosphere. The hotel is comfortable and warm but no bath, seems to have very good conference facilities however not experienced first hand. Overall a pleasant stay for an overnighter or a spot of training etc

I spent 4 nights here for work and the room was very tidy and spacious, the bathroom was perfect. The problem was at night the room was very dark and when wanting to read of an evening it wasnt bright enough, also the WiFi was useless. The breakfast was alright apart from the cooked option which wasnt very hot. But the amount to choose from was great if not wanting a cooked breakfast. The evening meals weren't to bad and you got a lot for your money which can be a good thing for a lot of people. The hotel is more than good enough when working away from home and I'd be happy to stay here again for business.

Please keep personal belongs locked when leaving the room unattended. Staff seem to have sticky fingers. Breakfast is good, with a lot of options. Beds are decent and comfortable, sheets were clean, however the bathroom needs to be updated as the tap was falling apart.

I was booked in here for 3 nights whilst working nearby, I was very pleasantly surprised, I spend most of my life in hotels and have had some great and bad stays and so my expectation is not high when the company books my into any hotel that is not part of the national chains, Some BW's are not that great. Checking was smooth and the chap was very friendly and helpful. The room was spotlessly clean and quiet, there was no air conditioning but as it is cooler at night now that was not an issue. The food was very good reasonable price and a decent portion size as well. All staff I came across were friendly and helpful at all times. My only gripes were, the high speed internet was actually quite slow, but it is free. My bathroom taps had very poor pressure, but the shower was okay. At the bottom of each stair case was a fire escape that people use to smoke so every time I went up or down the stairs I had to pass through a cloud of smoke that was wafting in through the door. I am due back in the area in a few weeks and will stay here again.

I stayed overnight on the recommendation of others and wasn't disappointed. A bit of an odd room layout - large beds but very small bathroom. Evening meal was a bit bland, but portions were far too large for me - if I'd known, I wouldn't have had a starter. Breakfast was exceptionally good though!

Good hotel for guests attending weddings at Wasing Park. Less than 10 minutes by taxi and the hotel had a lot of knowledge about the venue and best taxi companies to use. Rooms were standard, nothing special but ours was very dark with only a few lamps to light up the whole room. Breakfast was good and had plenty of variety. Staff were polite and friendly. Would recommend as a stop over if visiting a venue nearby.

"My Favourite hotel in the area"

I often use this hotel when I'm in Newbury on business. It's in a quiet location set back from the main road and well located between Newbury and Reading. The staff have always been friendly and as a returning customer it's good that they will acknowledge my return with a genuine welcome rather than the usual corporate response I get from other establishments. The rooms are clean and well furnished with some having a modern boutique hotel room style and others a more traditional corporate feel to them. Other reviews have already mentioned about the wifi signal which isn't always stable or the fastest but it is free and adequate. I've yet to dine in the hotel during the evening but find breakfast pleasant with a good choice and service. Although it's true from other reviews that the reception desk isn't always occupied I find I'm never left waiting long and generally check in and checking out is very quick. Overall, and I've stayed in most of the hotels in the area this is without a doubt my favourite.

Room of average size clean however smelt of damp upon arrival.Tea/coffee facilities unsure of dates as felt damp so did not use. Pleasant surrounds plenty of seats indoors and in the garden. Staff friendly however one member of staff seemed to be doing all the manual work i e bedrooms when there were two staff in reception not doing much and one staff in what looked to be the laundry room. come on team work. Food was nice however after pre ordering for a party of 12 ,1 person received theirs after everyone in the party had completed the meal.After complaining the meal was taken off the bill. During the evening meal experience the waitress introduced herself informing us she would be our waitress did not see her until we asked where the meal was. wont be staying here anymore.

I recently got married at a local venue and booked roughly 25 bedrooms for my guests. The hotel was great at sending regular updates on who had booked rooms, special thanks to Kasia who was fantastic throughout the booking process and she also ensured the bar was open for when the guests returned from our wedding. Although the hotel is an older property, the restaurant and bar area have been refurbished to a high standard, the rooms are lovely and it has all the things you expect from a 3 star hotel. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. Thanks again

Room dated, and only a small desk fan for hot conditions, although lucky I had that as collegues had no fans in there rooms. Grounds quite and well kept, but a bit out the way from towns/village. Founf the pillow to be stained with previous persons foundation, and had been turned over. WIFI very hit and miss, with poor signal when connected.

Upon our arrival after a 4 hour journey we were waiting at receiption for 12 minutes, there was no-one in sight. We rang the bell but still no one came. Eventually a person came and checked us in and asked if we were party of the wedding party. We said, no, he then said well I'm sorry the restaurant is not available tonight as there is a wedding. We should have been told about that at the time of booking. Went up to our room to put our bags and came down for a drink, then to be told the bar was not open! Later in the day it was extremely hot and the air con would not work. Again rang reception and it was a good 5 minutes before they answered. They said it had been playing up and came up to give us a fan. Went out for our meal at night elsewhere but came back around 10.30 and expected to be able to get a drink at the bar. Again, it was only open to private wedding function. I was very cross as I do not think we have had full use of the hotel facilities. They should still be able to cater for other residents. The next evening we went for a drink in the bar in the evening, no one on the bar or at reception, waited for 5 minutes. A man also waiting went to ring the reception bell and a female came and served. Upon returning to our room on the next floor we then found the card would not allow us entry. Had to go all the way back to reception to get another one. This is not acceptable. Although the room was nice I think this place has serious staffing issues and I don't think they are the friendliest either. If they want to cater for weddings, then so be it, but don't take other guests who have to receive a second hand service. These issues would have to be addressed before I was to plan a return visit.

We stayed here just for one evening we were not disappointed. The twin room on the first floor was of a reasonable size, good size bathroom well appointed. We had a meal in the restaurant the food was really good. Breakfast was delightful with a good selection of either hot or cold. I stayed here for one night, whilst working in the area. My room my was situated on the ground floor. The room was spacious, tidy, clean and comfortable. The bathroom was modern, clean and quite big. The free WiFi wasn't the best but that is my only moan. I had dinner in the restaurant. The steak was cooked to perfection, plentiful, hot and delicious! Just a one night stay my colleague was at the other end of the hotel, his room was much older but clean and tidy. My room was very modern but had a broken sink and a toilet that continually flushed which I did report to reception who did offer to move me which I declined as it was late. I'm surprised housekeeping released the room like it. The food was excellent on the other hand and our waiter was excellent.

i was staying on business and to be honest the experience was a bit of a mixed bag. I thought the room whilst clean and tidy was a little tired. I was lucky though, i had a ground floor room at the rear of the hotel and it was quiet and cool (it was a hot evening). Biggest negative for me as a business user was that whilst there was free wifi in the. room, it was useless. Connected briefly a few times, then just gave up. The staff, whilst efficient, were a little surly. Now to the good bit. The food was excellent! Evening meal was lovely, the dessert stunning. Breakfast was also exceptional.

"Nice Stay"

Stayed for two nights. Check in was quick and efficient. The room was clean with great views of the country side where we saw local wildlife of a Deer and a Kites. The bar staff and breakfast staff were excellent. I was not too happy where two members of staff behind reception who carried on their conversation in Eastern European?!i thought this was a bit rude. The following day we did not leave our room until 12.15 as we were getting ready to go out, it was a bit disappointing to find that when we got back in the evening that there had been no maid service for making the bed or new towels. Perhaps I should of read the small print and they don't clean everyday. I expected better service from Best Western. The hotel is situated in lovely grounds with a small walk to a pub where you can get home cooked food. WiFi worked well and the TV worked well although the beds are a little hard. Overall it was a pleasant stay but some basics let it down to other Best Western Hotels that i have stayed in.

The welcome we received was good, the room was clean and well presented but the main issue was the bathroom. Granted the suite was modern but alas no towel rail, just where is one expected to put ones towels when in use. Further more the shower although large was not acceptable. There was no hand rail, the result of which neither my husband nor I could shower whilst staying for two nights (we are both fit but alas in our 70s). Could this be a Health and Safety Issue??? As for the breakfast that was awful...very little choice. We also had two evening meals there but the portions were enormous and basically the food tasteless. All pre-cooked. The staff, although some were cheerful and helpful sadly the same could not be said about the restaurant staff.

"Need new mattresses"

The venue is very clean and the staff are helpful. Food was very good although a bit overpriced in our opinion (£6.50 for 3 scoops of ice cream!). The only real downside was no sleep...the walls are thin and we could hear everything going on in the corridor and adjacent rooms. The beds were uncomfortable as the mattresses were very poor quality for a hotel.

During a 3-day stay, I managed to elicit one smile from one member of staff working in the bar/restaurant. Staff were not properly dressed to serve food (unless it Is it acceptable to use one's pullover to hold the vegetables in the dish) and were surly and abrupt to the point of rudeness. Having reported a constant flashing light on the phone in my room, which was very disturbing during the night, I was told in no uncertain terms that there was nothing to be done and I would have to put up with it. Following this, I did not report the internet access that didn't work, the broken TV, the extremely rudimentary cleaning of the room, or the dribbling shower. There didn't seem to be any point. Despite all this, the restaurant food was pretty good, as was breakfast (possibly because this was self-service?).

I spent 2 nights here whilst working on location locally. On arrival I was welcomed and offered a locked room for my many work related bags. I was helped from my car with said bags and Richard on Reception could not have been more helpful! My room was well lit, airy and immaculate. Tea and Coffee was on hand and I was able to order a Continental Breakfast for my early starts which was brought promptly and with efficiency to my room each morning at the time requested. Every evening I went into the Bar area for food which was very tasty and well presented. The bar area felt very welcoming and I was able to work and eat with no distractions. I can't fault any aspect of my stay, feeling relaxed after work and getting a good nights sleep are up there for me and this Hotel delivered ! Thanks for a wonderful stay and especially Richard and the Reception staff for making my life so much easier!

I was meeting afew friends who were staying at the hotel for dinner and afew drinks. The hotel bar and restaurant area were very well kept and the staff were very friendly. I ordered one of the fab looking burger combos, whilst my friends had their starters. I specifically asked for No bacon on the burger. The starters all came and looked lovely!, then the burger arrived and it smelt lovely and i must say there was alot of food for £12!. the problem came when I checked inside....to reveal......yes youve guessed....2 rashers of bacon. Seriously guys, its the little things. The food was lovely, but get the orders right! My friends stayed at the hotel for afew nights further and said the hotel and restaurant was good each night.

The rooms are clean & well equipped with no traffic noise making for a good nights sleep. On the second night of our visit the Wifi connection was slow beyond belief due apparently to a bus load of foreign students who had obviously taken the bulk of the power. This however did not detract from our dining experience which was very good. Plenty of choice well presented and priced as well as generously portioned. Will definitely use this hotel again presuming my comments havn`t caused a rush in bookings.

Overnight stay and I thought the room was very clean and comfortable, friendly staff and the food was of excellent standard. Overall a pleasant stay but I was not impressed at all being told I would need a time slot for evening dinner as I like to eat when I'm feeling hungry rather than be told when I should eat.

All in all , okay , fair bit of walking to your room sometimes , car park was full of work vans witch has been block booked by British gas and sse , though not a problem , room was good , clean and couldn't fault It, water tempture changed a lot and was not constant witch I found rather funny due to the amount of people in the hotel that could of fixed it. Other than that all was okay , breakfast was a little dry , was mostly out for a while.

I'd never stayed in a Best Western hotel before. As this was the best rate I could get in the area my expectations were not high and I was happy to get B&B for the night at that price. I was very pleasantly surprised at the bedroom, cleanliness and above all service from the staff. As good or better than hotels I've been to at three times the price. This is only my first time at a Best Western so can't speak for others in the group, but if they all deliver the same value and staff friendliness I can only recommend them over other 'budget' hotels which we are all familiar with through the TV ads. "Great Value Stay in Modern Hotel"

We have usually stayed in a local country pub for the races but tried Best Western for a change and were pleased we did. Staff were really helpful and pleasant. Room was perfect despite needing a degree to turn the tap on! Breakfast was great. Can't fault it, especially when looking at the price. We will be back next year definitely.

Room was extremely spacious, however parking is alittle tight with all the British Gas engineering vans, which I suppose you can't help. The WIFI was extremely slow, and I mean extremely slow so if you want to do any work (I was on a business trip) this isn't the hotel isn't for you. Front desk staff extremely helpful.

Stayed for two weeks on business and the staff are brilliant, nothing is too much trouble and they are so friendly. Rooms are small but fully kitted out with nice bathrooms, tea facilities and nice and clean but.... Walls are thin so you can hear next door easily, beds are rock hard as are the pillows and TVs vary between rooms. Some are small, some are samsungs with hdmi capability and some have Phillips with impossible remotes and hdmi deactivated. Food is plentiful in portions but quality seemed to vary throughout the week. I had 2 fabulous meals, 6 ok meals that were edible but nothing special and 2 that my stomach did not appreciate at all. This is the only reason I don't give 5 stars and lets the hotel and all their hard work down in my opinion. For a short stay it's a lovely hotel but long term the lack of sleep and ok meals begins to grate.

This facility and hotel is geared up for conference groups and training. Therefore not ideal for leisure trips good for hard core business not looking for a relaxing experience. In summary the rooms are clean and tidy, the staff are professional and helpful.

We had a wonderful stay November 21 - 26. We had 2 connected rooms which provided plenty of room for our family of four. The beds were firm and comfy. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly! The breakfast was better than the sparse buffet at many hotels. The bathrooms were updated and really pristine. The only slight negative I would mention is the spotty wifi connection. Overall very nice experience here.

I really can't fault this hotel. It is very clean, has friendly staff (including one man who seems to do everything), comfortable beds, modern rooms and an excellent breakfast. If I ever visit the Reading/Newbury area in the future, this is where I will stay. A hotel that keeps up its excellent standards at a reasonable price.

we had to try three rooms, as the first two had unpleasant odures in them, the service for food and drink could have been quicker and the room wasn't spacious enough. The food tasted nice however, and the receptionist was most helpfull with our queries.

As hotels go, this isn't too bad. I wouldn't want to be staying here more than a couple of nights however. Arrived at about 5pm on a Sunday evening, car park was empty We started off in room 240 (quite a small room, with a small double bed, overlooking part of the carpark) where, after we had unpacked everything, we found that the electrics kept tripping. A quick visit to reception had us changed to a new room (204, larger room, larger bed, over looking the fields) within minutes. Great service. After moving, and re unpacking, we headed to the bar. Very clean modern lounge area with a good selection of alcohol and soft drinks, and quick service was given. Food came out quick enough, and the portions were amazing, so big infact, even I struggled! Well worth the prices. Don't order a starter if your not that hungry! One thing we will say about the hotel as a whole is FIRMNESS. The sofas and seats in the lounge, the beds in the rooms.... So hard! Retiring to the room, we couldn't sleep. As many others have said, the radiator is either on or off, no setting the temperature properly, even with the thermostats that are attached. The walls are thin, and door banging didn't help. but aren't most hotel/motels the same? The TV(s) have HDMI input, so was able to attach my tablet to watch Netflix through the free WiFi. However, download speeds aren't great, or something was throttling the speed as our films kept stopping after 20 minutes. If you just want to watch TV, you may have some difficulty, as some of the channels (mainly HD) aren't 100%. Possibly due to everything coming through a network cable that's possibly not connected to a decent speed hub, so data degradation was happening (Homes Under the Hammer this morning just wasnt the same when ghosting and buffering... lol) The beds are small. If you are over 5'7", you will be dangling your feet, unless your sitting up. The pillows are so thin, I had to make origami to get some height. In the morning we found the safe wasn't working. A call to reception had it sorted within minutes. We had ordered breakfast in bed, and it came exactly at the time specified. Word of advice, order for 1 if you are having it. The portions were enough for 2. Bathroom, dated. Still has the old attachments for previous soap systems, and a bit of mould around the tiles. Shower was decent enough. Decor of the room was modern enough, convenient, and plenty of storage space, but bring some hangers if you have more than 8 items that require them. Overall, it's modern enough, but the usual hotel niggles are present, especially the bathroom. They need updating. Service was excellent, with friendly members of staff.

Stayed here from 1st until 6th November 2015. Location was perfect for where I was working just 5 minutes away by car. I booked an executive room as normally stay in Premier Inn's so was a little apprehensive about what to expect. My room on the 2nd floor was spacious enough for me with a double bed and ample wardrobe space with plenty of coat hangers. Also a safe inside the wardrobe if needed. Bathroom was big enough with an over the bath shower. Bath was very deep nice to relax in after work. A little bit high so I would expect guests with mobility problems may struggle to climb in and out safely as there are no grab rails to assist with this. Flat screen TV on the wall was a little strange to get the hang of, not sure why this system of turning the telly on and off is used in all honesty. When I could get it functioning, there were plenty of free view channels available. There is a big desk with chair so ample room to work on. Also a small chair and table in the corner to relax and have a drink. Breakfast in the restaurant was ok for a buffet breakfast, eggs can be a little dried out under the lamps but no problem, just ask for fresh and these will be bought to your table. Evening meals were enjoyable but portions are huge, I have a big appetite but couldn't finish an evening meal at all during my stay. Corridor I was on was a little noisy with doors banging till around midnight, this was due to the hotel having a lot of British Gas staff staying during the full week, but again, this really wasn't a major problem for me at all. All staff were very friendly and pleasant throughout the week and more than happy to assist where ever they could. Hotel was spotlessly clean and tidy and room cleaned thoroughly on a daily basis.

We stayed here as we had a free night hotel stay with Aviva. When we arrived on a Friday night there was only about 5 cars in the car park which is never a good sign. This hotel is dated and needs a re-furbishment. The room had an old tv, rock hard bed, broken plug sockets, cracked ceramics and a bathroom made for giants. When we entered the room temperature was 26 degrees and it was stifling hot. All the corridor doors were shut and so all you could hear was banging throughout the night. On the plus there was an excellent Chef and Brewer pub a 5 minute walk down the road.

Best Western West Grange is a perfectly rasonable, but unremarkable hotel. My room was small, but with sufficent space for a double bed, wardrobe and desk, as well as a frankly weird looking but perfectly functional bathroom. The room was quiet - the hotel is set far enough back from the main road that you don't get much noise from that. Both the wired and wireless internet worked well. The restraunt/bar area looked somewhat worn and unappealing. I instead went to Thatcham for an evening meal. Meanwhile breakfast offered a very small selection of items, and the cooked elements were soggy and unappettizing. The West Grange is good for a god nights sleep, but it's nowhere you'll particuarly remember.

Stayed here having flown in from Spain. We were tired after a difficult journey avoiding the (blocked) M25. However we received a warm welcome and at dinner a HUGE meal. The room was pleasant, but the bathroom with its modern suite had a bath which for anyone with mobility problems would be difficult. No hand rails and if bathing, the taps are out of reach.

I have stayed here for over 3 years (approx 160 nights) and I have always had great service from the hotel staff and they have always given me an upgrade with regards to the best western rewards scheme. The downsides for me are that the menu does not change - it is the same menu for the last 3 years and I now eat out the hotel because of that. Also the hotel has a limited amount of irons and ironing boards - this did improve last year but for me I feel that each room should have these not having to ask on each stay. The wifi is average at best - O have stayed in many rooms and end up using my own devices as a hotspot most of the time. The TV is also a challenge, the hotel would do better to scrap the current system and start again - Tvs are small and to get them to work is a challenge. Compared to other places in Newbury you get great value for money (mainly because of the staff). As a tip I would say don't rest on your laurels - you might be a big fish in the local area but you need to innovate and improve to stay ahead of the game to beat nationally not just locally.

We booked 3 rooms for friends and family to all stay here for a night as we were all going to Newbury races and madness concert, 2 rooms were normal standard rooms but my boyfriend booked us an executive room. The decor in our room was very nice looked very posh but after seeing the other 2 standard rooms that was booked for our friends/ family I couldn't believe how small our room was. Our view from our window was a brick wall and an air conditioning unit. I'm just glad we were only there for one night. But may I add the staff were very pleasant and our family said the breakfast was amazing, just disappointed with what we paid for.

This hotel is well appointed, clean, friendly and does a good breakfast, including gluten free options. The restaurant and bar area is comfortable and there was a great atmosphere when we were there. The location is handy for Reading/Newbury and for a couple of local pubs too.

I stayed here for 3 nights , Nice quiet Location even during the day as I was working till early hours ,and slept till late , Plenty of parking , nice rooms , comfortable bed with all you need , free wifi and it was ok . I had breakfast which was a buffet and a wide choice available , Dinner was good as was the service . nice bar to relax and watch the football on the Telly . Staff were 1st class , can`t say more . now for the bad stuff , room cleaning could be better but I am being little OTT, cob webs about in corners and old bits of paper under the table , nothing major , the shower , well it works but its more a dribble then a shower ,extractor fan not working as well , need to address both these little problems Will i stay again , yes as i company does my bookings and I have informed them its an acceptable booking

Stayed here for 2 nights. Had a lovely room which I presumed had been refurbished. It was clean, bed was comfy and the wifi worked well. They seemed a bit short staffed but nothing was to much trouble. Tea, coffee chocolate and biscuits in the room. Bar ok, didn't eat there so can't comment on the food. Plenty of room in the car park. The only negative I have is that a door on the stairwell to the outside was always open and no security into the guest area. If I was staying here as a woman on my own I wouldn't have been happy. I will return

this hotel was booked through work so had no choice but to stay there, on arrival there was no-one at reception and when finaly someone did turn they were not very pleasant, the room was fine and the bed was comfortable, however the bathroom was not very clean and the shower well, the trickle of water that was comimng out was a joke so could not have a shower, the extractor fan in the bathroom was also broken the bar staff were friendly would not be my 1st choice to re-visit, as it was booked through work could not complain about anything as there was no-one on reception on departure, and any refunds goes back to the business and not to me, but a complementary meal may entise me back and a room with a shower that works.
