Best Western Hotel Halle-Merseburg

my disabled room #112 was facing the railway line. It was too hot in there, and opening the windows only resulted in noise from bypassing freight trains. A fan was provided, but it did little to help the situation.

Rooms are big and clean, in fact it is a small flat. Breakfast is delicious with all kinds of different food. Steak restaurant in the lobby served great food. Location is very good near the old centre.

It was very hot at the time we were there and the hotel has no AC it was not possible to sleep with the window open due to the train line that is right next to the hotel, So you coukld not sleep because of the heat or you could not sleep because of the noise....NEVER AGAIN

I stayed for 2 nights, which was way too long. The room wasn't properly cleaned. The wifi didn't work the first day. Breakfast the wasn't very good, also about half the items were gone by eight (breakfast goes till 10:30) and weren't filled up. We had to wait 10 min. for a new pot of coffee, because there weren't any waiters around and that with the breakfast room being quite empty (less than 25% filled).

The hotel is clean and well maintained. Staff is friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a great location to walk and view the city. The price is reasonable and worth it for the value you get. Well worth seeing the city and staying at the Bestwestern.

This hotel fulfilled our expectations by doing the simple things well. The reception was welcoming and efficient and the spacious room was excellent and well equipped. The patio bar was a pleasant place to spend an evening and breakfast was excellent, including a gluten free option for my friend. There is secure parking underneath the hotel and a pool/leisure complex. All in all this was an excellent hotel

I stayed here whilst on business in the area. The staff were friendly and helpful and also very patient when my colleague and I attempted to speak German. The room was clean but very warm and the aircon seemed to be quite feeble. Apart from this it was within my expectations of a business hotel and it served well as a base for my time there.

Some unfriendly, almost rude personnel, undercooked food, no mini bar. After diner stomach and bowel problems. Due to the location, the rooms are quite noisy. Positive: very clean rooms. Although I frequently visit the area, a week/month, I will not go back to this hotel.

To start, we pulled into their parking area behind the hotel and registered, This lot was full so we had to park (for a fee) in their underground garage. Narrow spaces doesn't begin to describe it. After pulling into a space next to the wall, with my husband directing me, I had to climb over the car console to exit the car. Oh well, we had a space. Took the luggage out, walked to the elevator and learned that it was broken. There are two elevators, but there's no direction to the 2nd elevator. So we carried our luggage up the stairs to the main level, only to learn about the 2nd elevator. Our room was clean, the bathroom was modern, though the shower was smallish. The beds were okay, probably changed since a previous reviewer commented on them. No AC, windows open to the street AND train noises.

This hotel turned out to be further from the beaten track than we expected as we were looking for an overnight midway between Hamburg and Munich. Our first impressions were uncomfortable. The place seemed dull and functional. In retrospect, it was fine. The staff was quite friendly. The food was good. We had an evening meal-great burger and good salad. Breakfast was fine although we were fascinated at the selection of sweet cereals: choco pops, fruit the loop, chocolate cornflakes etc. we ate breakfast on the outside terrace which was fine. The room was functional but roomy enough and the bathroom was fine. A very good shower (watch out if you're tall. The shower door frame is low) We couldn't keep the window open as we were in the tram side of the street and it was noisy. There's a kidney-shaped swimming pool in the basement where there's limited daylight (small skylight). There are two little saunas. Definitely not a 'wellness' area but ok for a quick swim/sauna. We probably wouldn't choose to stay here again, but we felt we got good value for money.

Could not find a hotel room in either Leipzig or Halle and had to settle for this in Merseburg. To put it like this, Merseburg is not the center of the universe ( I swear it sometimes felt like I was back behind the iron curtain in the 1970's), The hotel itself war OK...ish, but the knowledge of the staff regarding everything from wi-fi to helping out with directions and transport leaves a lot to be desired. The breakfast was poor and the dinner the night before ( Merseburg is not exactly choke full of restaurants) was even worse. Not recomended.

The first (smoking) room smelled horribly bad. After insisting I was given a large and comfortable non-smoking room but... the mattress was very uncomfortable. It was so soft and already very deformed. I complained but was told it was the only room left and that the mattress was changed recently. I cannot believe it. Some leakage also in the bathroom that was not fixed during my stay.

Merseburg is a town with a nice old center with old castle, park etc situated south of Halle. In the area is also major chemical industry but that is not noticeable from the Best Western apart from a LOT of passing heavy trains on the nearby railroad. So if you are fund of long freight trains this is a must and make sure you get full view. On the other hand if you want a quieter time select one of the rooms pointing to other directions and as far from the tracks as possible. Having said that we enjoyed the stay as much that we extended the stay with one night. The Hotel is rather new and has nice spacy rooms. The staff is friendly and helpful. The restaurant a la carte serves good food at a reasonable price. One thing that disappointed was the Tuesday night grill arrangement : 'juicy steaks from the grill with draft beer or local white wine'. The food was via food containers, there was no beef (turkey, pork, sausage only) and the drinks I paid for on top of the fixed fee for the grill arrangement. Not that it was not OK, but the flyer inviting to the party was indeed misleading. If you want a steak (beef) you should order a la carte.

Rather basic hotel, so no Airconditioning (most of the year you won't need it, but at least for the top floor is would be nice to have)... Good service with friendly staff. Limited free parking spaces (for hotel customers only). Walking distance from the center of Merseburg. Relatively new hotel with all the required services (also free wifi).

Stayed there a for 6 weeks on business. It was fair. No air conditioning so room was a bit hot and stuffy in summer. (But Europeans don't believe in it anyway ). The beds were quite unforgiving. Ended up sleeping on the floor for a night as this was better. Thankfully I was kindly and promptly moved to another room with a better bed. Breakfast buffet was good.
