« Ideal for Ferry Travellers »

We use this hotel when travelling to family in Ireland, staying overnight from the Ferry and on return just before the Ferry. We find it generally good value for accommodation and food. Staff are helpful and friendly. Occasionally there can be issues with En Suite shower and lighting fittings which can be loose or lights not working. A phone is positioned away from the bedside in one room, which is inconvenient for an early call.

    « Jag Pit Stop »

Friendly and efficient roadside hotel which ticked all the boxes on our old car stopover from Cork to the UK. Rooms were clean and comfortable, windows insulated from the busy road into Rosslare. Very good value for money. Would def stop again in similar circumstances.

    « Reliable service »

Stayed at the Denby Lodge again, twice in a week. We have always stayed here when we travel to the UK by ferry. It's clean, well run, close to the ferry and has a good restaurant, prices are reasonable too, would recommend this hotel without hesitation.

« Two artists ready for Co. Kerry »

A short drive from where we embarked at Rosslare Harbour the Best Western Danby Lodge Hotel was the ideal overnight stop for us. The chance to relax and enjoy good hospitality before our long drive to Co. Kerry the following morning. We were checked-in by a very friendly receptionist and when we located our room found it to be bright, clean and airy. Dinner, served by more friendly staff, was everything that we have come to expect of a Best Western Hotel. Ample portions of hot tasty food at reasonable prices. A firm and comfortable bed ensured a good night's sleep. Breakfast for the driver was a piping hot "Full Irish" while gluten free options for my partner (flagged up when I made my booking) meant the perfect start for our return to Co. Kerry.

    « Fire alarm works »

Yes the fire alarm does work, an early wake-up for all of us. Plumbing needs some work - it gurgled all night. Also room too hot and an open window let traffic noise in. Best news is - I would stay there again. Only 10 minutes from Rosslare ferry terminal. Room reasonably priced. Sleeps 3 adults, other than noises it is clean spacious. Bathroom clean. Good food in restaurant. Staff pleasant and helpful. Situated away from township, caters for self drive travellers. Didnt see local public transport.

    « Great stay »

BEST WESTERN Danby Lodge Hotel is a great place to stay! Located in the main street connecting to the main cities like Wexford and Rosslane, this hotel is in the deep of the green surrounding. Very nicely welcomed by the Reception, our rooms was really big, fully furnished and well cleaned; excellent breakfast in typical Irish style, we enjoyed a lot our short stay. Highly recommended if you have in plan to visit the south-east of Ireland, which has lots of surprises to be discovered and amazing landscape views.

    « excellent »

excellent quality very good value convenient location for ferry caring, friendly reception staff hotel appearance good, plenty of parking bar and food available could do with starting breakfast a little earlier so as to catch early morning ferry

« Perfect for the ferry - and perfect as well »

A group of us used this hotel as a base for a weekend break. It's close enough to the ferry port to arrive for dinner in the evening and to leave for the ferry in the morning. The rooms were clean, bright and really comfy beds. The food was very good - not a complaint at all - not from anyone in the group, which is praise indeed,.

    « Spacious rooms. »

Our room on the second floor was huge, with comfortable beds. The bathroom was compact but spotless. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel caters to ferry passengers, so breakfast is available very early in the morning.

    « Golf in Ireland »

Arrived at The Danby Lodge on Sunday evening after a most enjoyable ferry crossing from Pembroke Dock on the Isle of Inishmore and a short ride from the ferry terminal to the hotel we were met by a friendly staff who made the stressful booking in to the hotel easy. The room was a chalet which used to be one of the old coach houses and it was warm, clean and comfortable with all the necessary amenities. The beds were comfortable with chalet staff who were very efficient in keeping the room up to standard. The breakfast was a typical full Irish which set us up for the day. An evening meal was also available if required. All in all good value for money and a great base to travel out and explore this wonderful country side. Staff were pleasant and very helpful.

« Just what we needed! »

Great location for the ferry - lovely staff, very nice room for us as one of us has some mobility issues. Big car park, easy to find. Lovely food, cheerfully served and reasonably priced. Will definitely use again.

« Very convenient for early morning sailing! »

Very good meal and very pleasant comfortable rooms, staff really helpful, quiet location ten minutes to port, reasonable cost ability to add exactly what you require, I e breakfast evening meal etc pet friendly rooms also

    « Hotel »

Very good ideal for the ferry and food very good, would have given it 5 stars but no Irish cheese for dessert. Friendly staff even the girl from Hounslow, they were all very good, great value for money.

    « Super »

Nothing was too much trouble for the friendly staff. The food was generally very good and the rooms were surprisingly large and spotlessly clean. Not forgetting the Guinness which was also reasonably priced!!

« Excellent staff and the breakfast is great »

There was unfortunately a mix up with the number of rooms booked but the hotel were very pleasant in dealing with the situation. Excellent rooms and facilities, the breakfast has a great selection too.

    « 10 nights in southern ireland »

had a lovely 10 days stay in southern Ireland we stayed at The Danby Lodge Hotel in Rosslere the hotel was very nice the service was first class and the staff were very friendly the room was very nice and clean

    « Jny break »

Ideal stop over, for travellers on Rosslare ferries.Hotel clean, staff friendly and rooms comfortable. Evening meals good and tasty, breakfast is buffet style, but also nice range of cereals, juices and yoghurts.

    « Very hospitable »

We arrived late at 9.30pm after the kitchen had closed but the receptionist couldn't have done more for us. She made us up a great salad while we went to the room which was very clean and airy. Springs on the mattress have seen better days but we slept very well. Good place to stop to fit in with the ferry.

    « Very smelly room »

Stayed one night in what was classed as a "garden room". The room smelt strongly of dogs and the carpet was very dirty. On checking the internet whilst in the room we found that they do cater for pets in the garden rooms. We didn't have a pet so we shouldn't have been given a pet smelly room. The breakfast was 10 euros each and was just ok. Would not stay again.

    « Convenient and comfortable »

We had a garden room, small but well equipped. Gardens are most pleasant. An excellent meal in the bar - the hotel is on the way to the Rosslare ferry, and we had the impression that many staying in B and Bs nearby came in for a good meal. Recommended.

« Close to the ferry port »

First of all we received a courtesy call before our arrival to advise us of a party the night we were due to stay and apologised in advance for any disturbance, which was good customer service. We stayed overnight en route to the port, we were allocated a garden room which was recently decorated due to the smell of paint. It was clean and comfortable but the carpet was grubby. Not sure if the garden rooms are the pet friendly rooms but the dog next door caused more noise than the party! Maybe staff should advise customers before allocating the rooms because of pet allergies, if travelling without pets. Good location, close to the port, restaurant and bar on site, breakfast available. Tea, coffee making facilities in room, hairdryer, TV, wifi. Good value

    « handy for ferry »

stayed here last weekend its a small hotel comfortable and staff very friendly and helpful also wheelchair friendly the food was excellent and very reasonable drinks also we enjoyed the dancing on sunday night would stay here again and recommend it ot others

    « Motel style room »

Our room was an outside room, motel style. The room didn't smell too fresh, the shower was quite small, but apart from that it was okay. Probably wouldn't stay there again if I was back in the area, although it wasn't that bad, it also wasn't that good. The breakfast was okay, but not great at 10€ each.

    « Enjoyable stay »

Our second stay here. Staff were as friendly and helpful as last time. Good value bar meals, breakfast fine and room was comfortable. Recommend this place if you are looking for accommodation in the area.

« Stay coming of the evening ferry »

This is the second stay here this year after coming off the ferry in Rosslare, again found the staff very friendly and helpful. Food is good and all round this hotel is good value for the rate charged.

    « Very Good Value »

Stopped here previously and were quite impressed so booked again. An excellent stopover for the Rosslare Ferry the next morning, about 5 minutes down the road. The hotel is an older building tastefully refurbished but maintaining its earlier ambiance in the decor. Some lovely paintings of Irish Life on the walls The room was large and the beds comfortable with a spacious bath and shower room. Free Wifi in the room. Tea and Coffee in the room. You can get dinner in the hotel, very good value. Enjoyed the ' Chowder.' Breakfast including all the usual cooked options as well as continental was included in the very reasonable price. Plenty of free parking.

    « Fine, decent value »

We called in here on the Bank Holiday weekend and had the carvery lunch. It's advertised as a carvery, but the food was served to the table, from the kitchen, which I personally prefer. Queuing up for food is too 'school dinner' or 'staff canteen' when I'm eating out, I want to be served. We had tried other places and they were mobbed, they don't normally serve lunch here until later in the day, so it was pretty empty, just a few tables were occupied. We almost turned to leave, as it seemed unlikely they were serving food, no sign of the carvery and very quite, but we were glad we decided to stay. One of us had the stuffed chicken and the other the roast beef. Both were really nice, not dried out, as they might have been if sitting under a carvery lamp. The potatoes were fresh, nicely seasoned and not too many of them, but a good enough portion of everything. Not expensive either. The ony minor issue was the garden peas, they had started to dry out and were on the tough side, the rest of the vegetables, carrot and turnip, were fine. Some tables were having plates of sandwiches with fries and they looked quite nice. The service was efficient, a tad brusque, but you wouldn't exactly complain about it either.

    « Pleased all round. »

Right, this is a Best Western (which means one sort of knows the standard one can come to expect) and a 3 star hotel. It is just that. It is close in proximity to the Rosslare ferry port, the staff are very friendly and as accommodating as they can be. The rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. Like many other hotels and B&B's in Ireland, and elsewhere of course, this place is alongside a main road which means that there's a lot of traffic until late at night and then again early in the mornings. It doesn't matter which suite one has, one hears the road traffic to some extent. We stayed here on 2 nights a week apart. On the first night we had an upstairs room at the back and, as mentioned by another reviewer, the kitchen's extractor fan was just outside our window but that was switched off at a reasonable hour. On the 2nd night we were given a garden room - again perfectly okay but we could hear the traffic. We value our sleep and learnt many years ago to never ever to go anywhere without comfortable earplugs. Providing the establishment's beds are half decent, the ear plugs do the trick and sleep's not that much of an issue.

« Nice place to stay »

The staff are very friendly. The room is clean, tidy & in good repair. The bathroom is clean & everything works as it should. The only slight negative is if you want hot water in the morning you had better get up early, the water was only luke warm this morning, not an issue for us as it is August & warm, in the winter though it would be an issue. The breakfast was excellent, plenty of it & the staff were friendly & attentive. The only other thing is the hotel is on the main road to Rosslare, so traffic noise could be an issue. Not for us though, we just had a few drinks & slept like a log.

« Very disapointed and NO SLEEP »

I booked here for the last night of our holiday hoping for a good night's sleep before catching the ferry back to England and then a long drive home. We had a family room for 2 children and 2 adults (room 15; remember that number if you are planning to stay here). Our evening meal was actually quite good and the staff in the restaurant and on reception were excellent and very friendly, the trouble started after we went to bed. Room 15 is above the bar so we were kept awake by a TV blaring and what sounded like a furniture removals seminar, and top it all off there was an air-conditioning unit outside the bedroom window that very nosily shut itself on and off all night. By 1:30 in the morning we had have enough so phoned reception to complain. The night manager was watching the TV and cleaners were moving the furniture and they claimed they knew nothing about the air-con unit. All in all a rotten experience, and most importantly HAD NO SLEEP.

« Great jumping off point for visiting the south »

We arrived in Rosslare at around 7pm on a Friday night and had just a ten minute drive to the Danby Lodge. We were allocated garden rooms which were small but perfectly formed, and as we were only staying one night these were absolutely fine. If you were staying any longer, ask for a room in the main hotel as these - I understand - are very spacious. The grounds are kept clean and tidy, the staff were all very kind and helpful. We had an excellent meal in the restaurant - the roast beef was one of the most generous portions we had ever seen and was delicious.

    « Nice for a short stay »

We stayed here after a ferry ride and it was clean and comfortable! It is taxi ride away from the port but was a nice over night stay with very clean room and super helpful staff. They gave us a nicer room when we asked about the bed size! The restaurant in the hotel was nice with good food and nice staff!

« Best western Danny lodge hotel »

Very clean and comfortable rooms. Staff helpful. Plenty of tea coffee water and fruit in our rooms. We had a family meal in bar which I think needs a update. Husbands curry was small and very very bland. Children's roast beef dinners lacked a Yorkshire pudding however adults portion did. Overall we were slightly disappointed with the food. However as we left in morning for early ferry we had coffee which we were not charged for. Will defenatly stay again but would think about going into town to eat

    « Never again »

You'd be advised to stay in a local B and B that kind of sums it up!!! Sparse basic rooms, no snacks available before evening mealtime so asked for chips which they agreed to do, nowhere near the centre and the whole place looks cheap and unloved.

    « First Class! »

From the moment we arrived we were looked after by the most friendly, caring staff. Our room was spotless and quite large with really nice furniture. The bed could be upgraded but that is the only thing I would change. We had an excellent meal and the bar/restaurant staff were friendly and efficient. We didn't have breakfast as we had a very early start, so cannot comment on that. I look forward to staying there again whenever I'm in the Rosslare area.

« Looked forward to a nice relaxing break in the sunny south east. »

Visit Wexford four times a year usually.Great place for a short break.Had never tried the Danby Lodge Hotel so decided to give it a try- disaster! On a holiday I love to have a nice relaxing bath and a good lie-in in the morning. No bath, shower only. Awake from 6am with horrific noise from traffic outside. This continued for hours. All the traffic to and from the ferryport whizz past the hotel. Such a pity as room was otherwise very comfortable- great comfy bed.. Staff were very pleasant, breakfast was good-but no brown bread, just toast? Bar has no atmosphere whatsoever. On booking guests should be advised of the noise problem.......wouldn't be a problem for those leaving early for the ferry! My advice is on booking check that your accomodation is NOT at the front of the hotel!

    « Good Value »

Would rate as above average based on location, value and helpful staff...warm friendly welcome for our one night stay en-route to the Rosslare morning ferry which is 10 minutes away by road. Rate was €59 - we did not take breakfast offered at €10 each. Room was good size with a double and single bed - clean and a reasonable nights sleep. Bathroom was useable although on small size with shower over the tub. Took dinner in the bar, very good service, reasonable choices on menu and a specials board...arrived in good time and was hot and tasty. Wife happy with her veggie choice and all round value at €35, two courses and drinks. Only negatives we found was the room was hot and stuffy overnight (no air con or fan) and the window offered only a slight opening. There are no lifts to the upper floors so any heavy bags will have to be llugged up the stairs...Room 14 offered a view over the side garden. There is a children's play area here and the noise level until 10pm was quite high...otherwise a reasonable stay and one of the better choices in the area

« Overnight Stop for the Ferry »

Stopped here as a convenient location before we caught the ferry back to Pembroke. Staff were very friendly, the room comfortable, clean and tidy. Menu at the restaurant was not extensive but the food was good. Only downside was the TV which had very limited channels.

« Friendly place. First stop for a Guinness. »

A short distance from the Ferry terminal. For the first pint on Ireland the Guinness here is good. Rooms a bit dated but bed is good. Shower water pressure nearly non existent. Quality food and huge portions. Many local folk come for Sunday lunch which shows it has a good kitchen. Not secure parking for motorbike but bike can be hidden behind front wall to hide from the passing vehicles. Stayed twice both on arriving in Ireland and on the night before departure.

« Really good value for money hotel »

Stayed here recently for a few nights while touring this part of Ireland. It was very busy as it is so close to Rosslare. It doesn't claim to be a five star hotel but it is excellent value for money. The rooms are more than adequate, the food was good but the best thing about this hotel is the staff. They were more than friendly to all the guests and nothing was too much trouble. Would have no hesitation in recommending this place to anyone visiting this area.

« Well situated ferry stop over hotel »

The hotel is conveniently situated, not far from the ferry terminal. A clean, modern, comfortable hotel with friendly staff and good sized bedrooms. However, seemingly there is no restaurant. Breakfast is served in the breakfast room - good quality, substantial and with lots of choice. Other meals are served as "bar snacks" in the main bar area, which is adjacent to the children's playground, and hence suffers from children running all over the place, leaving doors open and generally being a nuisance. The bathrooms were disappointing as although they were reasonably sized and well finished, they were not equipped with extractor fans and the switch to the over-sink mirror light could only be reached either by guests 6 foot 6 inches or taller or by standing on the toilet seat!

« Overnight stay in Danby Lodge »

We only stayed in this hotel for one night. The reception staff ?ere very pleasant and helpful. The room we had was very clean and comfortable as was the ensuite bathroom. The shower wasent particularly powerful but sufficient for washing. We had an evening meal in the bar / restaurant which was very pleasant.

« Overnight for the boat »

Stayed here with my wife and two kids (6 & 3) the night before our sailing to Wales. This is our second time staying here and will be where we stay every time we are in the area. Really clean rooms, very Family friendly and ideally less than 10mins to the port. This hotel is perfect for families as there is a play area outside and a free bouncy castle to keep the kids entertained. We ate in the restaurant for an evening meal and again for breakfast and all was perfect. This is definitely worth a stay and will not break the bank.

« Great place to stay. »

We enjoyed our stay at the Wexford Best Western. It is a few miles south of Wexford. The hotel is on the main road, making it easy to find. The hotel is a very neat place. The receptionist was very kind at check in. The room was clean and modern. It even had a new carpet smell. The bathtub was very large. We enjoyed the breakfast. The in room Internet service worked great. There was plenty of parking at the hotel. The lady at check out was friendly. If I was ever in Wexford again, this is where I would stay.

« Great for a ferry stop over either direction »

A decent hotel at an affordable price. Room and bathroom good sized. Bed a little too soft for my preference but I slept fine. Clean. No elevator so you have to carry luggage upstairs if room is there. Pleasant workers. Traditional English breakfast (if you pay for it) otherwise continental. Close to a gas station. About 15 minute to ferry. Easy to find.

    « Ferry stopover »

Stayed for a night prior to getting the ferry, everything you need for a stopover. Nice food, play area for kids, comfortable beds and good breakfast. Will stay again before getting the ferry. Friendly staff too who made much of my 3 year old twins.

    « HOT HOUSE »

Average hotel.. At least this time we didn't have to do a balance act., we had a walk in one...Double bed + single bed = 3.. but only 2 t.bags...2.Coffee.. 4 Milk.....Must be cut backs !!! But a Big But,,,,. All the staff were brilliant.....10 out of 10 TO THE STAFF.. AND A BIG THANKYOU TO THEM.

« Clean and relaxing and good food »

We arrived on the Friday before sailing on the Saturday morning. We had booked a family room with easy access for our daughter who has mobility problems. The room was large with a double and a single bed and accessible bathroom. Plenty of tea and coffee in the room. We had dinner in the restaurant, plenty of choice on the menu. Food was presented well and tasty the desserts were wonderful and the staff very friendly. A very relaxed atmosphere and busy. We had a good nights sleep even with the busy road. We didn't stay for breakfast as we had an early ferry to catch. We will stay again as it is just ten minutes drive to Rosslare port.

« Like rejoining an old friend. »

Every year we travel to the Republic of Ireland to revisit our old friend of many years. This year we again availed ourselves of the pleasant comforts of this hotel. We have watched it expand and become more used, however it has never lost it's friendly welcoming air. We've seen slight changes in staff but it has never lost it's charm.

    « Going downhill »

I have stayed here a number of times since it is (a) a Best Western and (b) close to the ferry. We had a garden room, which means that if it is raining, you get wet going to the bar/restaurant. The bar and restaurant are in a single room, which looks not to have been decorated in a number of years. It's more like a Seargent's mess, with bare wooden floors and dated chairs. It's not a comfortable place to sit, and needs a make over. Staff uniforms are black and seem to include black trainers with luminous green laces. This sets an unfortunate tone - more like Macdonalds. The food though is not bad, and quite like home cooking, so no complaints there. Our garden room lacked hot water, but we only discovered this after we had unpacked, so we put up with the luke warm supply for one night. Time for a make-over, I think. Separate the bar from the dining room, ditch the TV - we don't all want to watch football - brighten the place up with some decent fabric and furniture, upgrade staff uniforms and so forth. Oh! And hot water please.

    « An Absolutely BRILLIANT Find ! »

We stayed here for one night en route via Wexford and Waterford to Co Cork. We wished we could have stayed longer here and we will another time. We take our dog with us and the hotel were very helpful by email telling us we would have a direct access to a garden room for the dog's enjoyment. How considerate! We found it easily on the main road from Wexford to Rosslare and there is ample free parking. Reception staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. Our room was like a little studio cottage fronting a garden - with a front door and a window that opened. Bliss. The bathroom also had an opening window which is a rarity. Plenty of room for coats, clothes, cases and to turn around and do hair etc. Bathroom was lovely with an excellent shower and abundant nice white towels My only slight criticism was that these days better hotels have mattress toppers and this did not. The bed was also only a standard double with a single in - it would be better to have just the one queensize. We ate in the restaurant and had excellent steak dinner - all served with a smile. Highly recommended to anyone travelling through Ireland and that rare place that welcomes a well behaved dog. We will be back and will hopefully stay a couple of nights !!

« Close to ferry port with annex rooms for dogs. »

Very good for over night stop going to or from the ferry, with good food and a bar. Very good value. The staff are excellent. The service is very good. lots of space for walking the dog and free parking.

« Could be very good - just 2 things making it average »

Based on the rate we were charged - this could be a very good hotel - just for 2 things. 1, no air-con in the room and 2, the shower is atrocious. The room itself was very clean - no issues there - it's just that it got extremely warm during the night. And with no air-con and a window that opens less than an inch - there was no way of colling the room down so we had a very poor nights sleep. The bathroom was also very clean - but the shower was absolutely atrocious. If these were fixed we would definitely return - but until then we, unfortunately have to give it a miss.

« Ideal stopover for early Rosslare ferry »

Friendly staff, decent meal, good pint of Guinness and only 10mins from the ferry. That makes it an ideal stop before catching the early ferry. Look out for the enormous and very impressive jigsaw puzzle of galloping ponies which took 15000 pieces to complete.

« Good budget stop for ferry connections »

We stayed here for 1 night as it is ideal for catching the early ferry from Rosslare. The staff are excellent, friendly and helpful. The added bonus is the breakfast option. We stayed in room 10 which was not bad but the kitchen fan came on around 7pm and is located beside the window. I called reception and they advised that it would be turned off at around 9pm- it was, so no problem for us as we went out to dinner but may be worth considering if you have a young family.

« Treated like royalty by the staff »

We booked more than a month ago to ensure a night rest before taking the ferry back to England. They give us Room 12 - wow what a nice room. Must pay to e a Best Western club member. Room was spacious in a quiet area of the hotel. Comfortable bed and nice bathroom. Also dined there to a meal which could have fed two people. Both of us had food left on our plates. Certainly would not go away hungry. We'd stay there again when in Wexford area.

    « Top spot »

Had a 2 night stay friday saturday in the danby lodge a couple of weeks ago myself partner baby and partners mam had a fab time for starters i rang the hotel a couple of days before arriving just to check rooms ect found out my partners mam was on the 3rd floor with no lift and we were on ground floor outside explained to them she had bad legs old ect they changed the room straight away no problem what so ever and put her next door to us perfect, when we got there the rooms were outside the hotel like shallies but were perfect for us with a child and for a person who had problems with getting up and down stairs the rooms had double bed and single good size rooms and clean and warm and you could not hear the traffic outside so highly reconmend them for a stay the hotel its self is clean modern and the food was fab realy was hotel is in a good spot for ferry travellers to and from and also for people looking for somewere nice to stay, tings to do in the hotel well hotel has a pool table couple of game machines and outside swings and a slide for the younger kids so someting to keep them occupied for an hour or two ?? there is also a family play centre very close buy bout 10 min drive heading into wexford and for all children ages so would reconmend the hotel to family,s my only negitive and its not realy was no music at night time if your having a drink after your lovely dinner but hey you make your own music ??

« Very friendly and a nice place to stay »

I liked my night at the Danby, on arrival there is plenty of parking and a very friendly staff group who really seem to care and are well educated and interested. I was asked if I was in the Best Western "club" or whatever it's really called and I asked about it because I regularly stay at a Best Western in Cork (where I'm never asked) and she told me that the Montenotte hotel in Cork was no longer in the Best Western group. I was impressed that the welcoming receptionist knew all about who was and who wasn't in the hotel group with it being so large. I was working in the area and only staying one night but I noticed it seems to be a popular place for people using Rosslare harbour. Many friendly English tourists and it's great to see in a beautiful part of Ireland. It also appears to be pet friendly which I think is a good thing. The only knock backs are that you're not in a town so there's no shop in walking distance. And you really can hear your hotel neighbours when we all get up in the morning. But all in all I'll be back when I'm anywhere near with work again, loved the place!!

« Perfect location for Rosslare Ferry Terminal »

Chosen more for convenience than for any other reason, this hotel did not disappoint. The breakfast was timed well for the short journey to the ferry terminal and was an excellent Full Irish, spoiled only by the absence of the requested pot of tea. Made do with a cup brewed in my room whilst completing last minute packing. An unfortunate oversight that did not diminish the satisfactory nature of the hotel and its location.

« One of the noisieast place we have stayed »

We asked for a quiet room and were give a room with the extractor fan from the kitchen outside the window - we were moved to a room with an air conditioning unit outside the window which whirled away all night even though there was no air conditioning in the room - the radiator was on and we could not turn it off - we had to open the window!! The bar had a television and the radio going at the same time. The food was basic. It is well situated for the port of Rosslare - but we wont be staying there again.

« En route to holiday destination and return »

We were recommended by our travel agent to use this hotel to break our journey, both going and returning to the Kerry area of Eire. It was a valuable recommendation. The hotel was excellent in relation to proximity to Rosslare Port. We were more than satisfied with the room facilities, hot shower, clean sheets, and tea in bed. On arrival we had dinner, and breakfast the following morning; and the same on our return journey. Good food choices, excellent drinks selection, friendly and helpful staff. Booking in and out was efficient. Could not have asked for more.

« Wedding and over night stay »

Was here for a wedding on the 10th . Function room was very well laid out and decorated. Staff were friendly and efficient. Food was lovely and good size portion.bedroom was large and spotless. Bed was comfortable and clean. Plenty of hot water and a good size bathroom with a bath and shower. Breakfast was very good cooked to order. Plenty of cereals and juices enjoyed my stay will be back

    « Highly Reccommended »

After crossing by ferry to Ireland from England, the Danby Lodge is so convenient and east to find on the main road to Wexford. We were made very welcome, rooms are clean and comfortable and the evening meal was delicious!!. Top marks for the breakfast too. Very friendly staff always happy to help.

« Defintely recommended for a stay in Rosslare »

We stay here often and the reason for this is it is so conveinient for the ferry port. The other reason is that it is a lovely hotel with great staff. The room was clean and had everything that anyone needs. We had a drink in the bar followed by a meal from the daily specials, and this was really great. The young women who served us was lovely and exceedingly good. Would highly recommend this hotel if you need one in this area.

« Very friendly and convenient for ferry »

A very large group of us stayed there recently for a family reunion. Staff were very helpful and accommodation was fine, but not luxurious. The bar/restaurant staff work hard to please, and food is ok. Very convenient for them ferry, but if you want a really quiet place, you might find the noise from the nearby road to Rosslare, an issue. We did not.

    « Pleasant overnight stop »

This was an ideal place for an overnight stay after arriving by ferry at Rosslare. The room was a good size with comfortable seating. We ate in the hotel restaurant and were extremely pleased with an excellent meal (sea bass) and friendly efficient service. Very good breakfast the next morning before we headed off to West Cork. Overall it was a very pleasant and comfortable overnight stop.

    « Little gem »

I loved this place. The rooms were fab, it's old winding corridors. The staff were friendly and helpful. It was a very welcoming, homely hotel. Felt I'd been there years like the major from faulty towers. The peri peri chicken was out of this world. My kind of hotel. Quiet yet exciting. Loved it. Would highly recommend this place and I'm a fussy old git

    « Stay Report »

Very good service, hotel needs a bit of a face-lift. Not enough hot water and heating irregular. Stayed two nights and the staff were excellent. No atmosphere in the Lounge/Bar. Would stay there again because of the great service.

« Service that goes that extra mile »

My husband and I used the Danby Lodge as a convenient stopover when travelling by ferry to England. It was such a lovely place with friendly staff that we booked it for the return trip. I'm a wheelchair user and they had a lovely room with wet room ensuite. It was clean comfortable and the staff were very helpful. Unfortunately on the return trip the boilers had broken which meant no hot water in the rooms. Prior to our arrival, the lovely receptionist had phoned around in an effort to find alternative accommodation for us. This is always tricky when a wheelchair is part of the deal. It was clear she had tried every possible option to ensure we had all we required, even though that may have meant lost business. A quick decision was made that as long as there was heat in the room we would still stay. Just to be sure very shortly after getting to the room an extra heater was brought. Offers of bowls of hot water in the morning were declined as we realised we could just boil the kettle for a wash the next morning before setting off on again. We were given vouchers for a complimentary meal as compensation for the inconvenience. We could clearly see how hard the receptionist had tried to help. Our comments to her were: "It's not the end of the world. Worse things could have happened. Please breathe." We would strongly recommend this hotel. The rooms are comfortable, staff friendly and the food is very good. If travelling on the ferries it's only 10 minutes from the port. So plenty of time for a hot breakfast before setting off.

    « Family Return »

Stayed here last year & enjoyed our stay, hence our return with children & grandchildren. Ground floor room with wheelchair access & wet room is a bonus in any hotel for us. These facilities were just what we needed prior to our ferry home the next day. The food in the bar/restaurant was about the best we had had all week. This is an ideal location for stop off on arrival from ferry or a rest up before the early morning ferry. Noisy next door neighbours woke us up, but did disperse as I put my head out of the door.

« Overnight Stay following ferry trio to Rosslare. »

Just outside Rosslare but on the main road. Staff very friendly and check in quick. Room substantial with pleasant bathroom. Bed fine but slightly on the hard side. TV seemed to only show Irish stations. Very noisy in early hours with people getting up to catch early ferry. Reasonable evening meal served in bar and breakfast was good value and extremely tasty in the morning.

« danby lodge hotel rosslare ireland »

very satisfied have stayed here before - always been good en-suite a bit small but ok our dog was content to stay in special chalet with good walking & toilet bins placed witin easy reach & slept on his own bed in our room .

« Good service, friendly staff, reasonable prices. »

All the staff here were so friendly and helpful. Our room was a decent size with a lovely hot shower and plenty of towels. We dined in the restaurant and can recommend the food. Breakfast was good too.

    « Visiting family & friends »

Lovely hotel ideally situated for in and around southeast Ireland staff in hotel are very friendly, nice food rooms nice clean and tidy would recommend it to anyone families, couples etc. It gets a big thumbs up from me ????????

    « Danby Lodge »

It provides a good service without frills or unnecessary value added items at an acceptable cost. The bathrooms need updating and mattresses renewed, although is adequate for an overnight stay. The restaurant provides quite a good menu but as part of the bar is on the Spartan side for ambience.

    « Just lovely »

We stayed here for a 2 night break...we loved it. Clean, warm, bright & exceptionally hard working staff. I had read previous reviews on here which weren't so good & all I can say is we didn't experience any of the issues mentioned. Our room was large, clean, garden facing & plenty of in room tea/coffee. Would definitely recommend it for families on a budget as its exceptionally priced and great value for money.

    « Visit to ireland »

March 2016 - Having being left here by my partner Tom without a word,.....I was a stranger in another country, I stayed at the Danby lodge from Easter Sunday to Thursday, I can honestly say the rooms I had were very clean each with their own bathroom/shower facility with complientary products. There was tea & coffee making facilities in both rooms , flat screen TV and WiFi throughout and a cooked breakfast every morning,...the girls here made me feel very welcome indeed and nothing was never to much trouble. I will be very sorry to leave Danby lodge as I feel that I have made some new friends and will miss them, even though my situation with Tom was not pleasant I have left here on a high! Thank you Danby log de for looking after me xx?? Tricia

« Second visit in two years »

This hotel is excellent. My second visit over four days, a fantastic experience both in the standard of accommodation and premier service. Due to late booking over Easter we had the smallest double ensuite which was spotless and looked as though no one had ever stayed there. The attention to detail was impressive with hand and bath towels and flannels. The shower was hot and plentiful and even the loo roll was folded to a point on our arrival. Whoever said 'cleanliness is next to godliness' must have been thinking of The Danby, crisp sheets and comfortable beds with duvets ....not 100year old blankets.... The staff are without exception the best I have ever come across, not only will they help in any way they can but it is evident they really want to. After hundreds of miles on the road each day it was a pleasure to return to a quiet and relaxed atmosphere with a good selection of perfectly cooked food ...check out the daily specials for quality and value.....which in my experience has always been modified as required at no extra cost. As has been said by others, the breakfasts are great both in quality and selection. It saddens me when I see reviews that do not seem to reflect reality. I have stayed in many hotels with mould growing in the bathrooms and staff who chew gum and really don't care if you stay or not THIS IS NOT THE DANBY. Looking forward to my next stay. The downside is that some guests do not show good manners and let children run uncontrolled but hotels cannot be expected to put ...'only nice well mannered guests required' unfortunately!!! Does this make me an old fuddy duddy? Perhaps older but I make no apology for having standards .....which The Danby satisfies very nicely.

« Ideal stop over enroute to ferry »

:-) Clean, friendly relaxed atmosphere. Family room was a good size two singles a double & a cot was provided on request, We stayed with our 2 young sons 3 & 3 weeks, Staff were very friendly and helpful including carrying in bags. Breakfast was good and plenty of options for all ages. :-( the only slight down side was the shower was poor.

« Great stay at the Danby Lodge »

Myself and my mate spent the weekend fishing and are just back from our stay here. Hotel was very comfortable and clean, breakfast and bar food was lovely but the best thing was the staff. They made us feel very welcome and couldn't have been nicer. Would stay again.

« Still a fine place to stay! »

I have read a few recent disappointing reviews about the Danby Lodge but must say from my experience it is a fine place to stay. I last visited at the end of December and once again experienced no problems whatsoever - apart from the torrential rain and gale-force wind!! Yes it is an "old hotel" but on each of my visits the bedroom has been clean, warm and comfortable. The bar area does perhaps lack atmosphere on occasions when not busy, but this is made up for by the friendly and efficient multi-tasking staff, who are always keen to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. The dinner menu offers a reasonable choice and the portions are large. Breakfasts are again excellent value for money.

    « Won't be staying there again »

had to move rooms there was no heat and no hot water . Staff were nice the 2 we seen , breakfast was nice very quite place , no atmosphere in the hotel at all very very quiet so if your going here don't expect too much

    « Valentines stay! »

We stayed here Saturday night for valentines weekend, check in very quick and easy, we had dinner booked for 7pm also and were given vouchers to present when entering the restaurant. We got room 7 which was nice and spacious so that was a surprise after reading the bad reviews we didn't hope for much, the only problem for us was the smell in the bathroom it smelled like someone smoked in there for few days. Dinner was grand and i loved the Ferrero Cheesecake for desert, the problem came when we asked for receipt as we had to pay for drinks and dessert as rest we thought was covered by the vouchers but when we got the bill everything was on it so we had to ask and explain we had the vouchers even tho we handed them in before we sat down, the restaurant staff did change it but they were chatting to each other and looking at us making us feel uncomfortable so we left the money in the bill and left to go to our room. Breakfast is really nice you get full irish but it's not served buffet style. Beds are comfy and there's tea & coffee facilities, also a hairdryer, there was plenty of hot water in the morning but shower isn't great there's almost no pressure coming from the shower head so took forever to get washed that was the only thing we thought could be improved in the room. Overall it's a nice hotel but more for staying overnight for a ferry, we wouldn't choose it for romantic get away again.

« A friendly hotel in nice grounds »

The staff are very friendly and helpful. Our double bedroom was quite large with views over the garden, spotlessly clean and with all the usual extras. A good size bathroom with bath and shower. The breakfast was very good, with both hot and cold fare and the bar food was also very good. We were part of a large group staying for the weekend and everyone was more than happy with the hotel.

    « Awful Dump »

Possibly the worst place I've ever stayed. The hotel is in DIRE need of MAJOR renovation. The décor is outdated and grubby, ?Its an old hotel? seems to pass as a good enough excuse for everything that goes wrong with it. Faulty Towers does not have a patch on this place! The staff seem to have multi job descriptions barman come maintenance, come cleaner come manager. The bedroom was freezing cold, the radiators didn't work ?its an old hotel?. They eventually got a blow heater in the room, which made so much noise but didn't heat the bathroom, which was freezing ?its an old hotel there would be no heat in the bathroom? we were told. The windows didn't shut properly and a strong draft blew through the windows. The water in the shower was stone cold, you had to let the water run for 15mins before any kind of tepid water came through ?they're old pipes in an old hotel?. The actual showerhead spat water at you, it was impossible to have a shower, there wasn't enough water coming from the shower head. I had to stand at the sink and wash myself again the party line was ?its an old hotel?. We went down for breakfast at 10.00am (on the button) and were told breakfast is finished (which is very early breakfast finish time in most hotels), the waitress kindly said she would see what she could do for us. Another waitress came over and told us there were only ?dregs? left, and she would ?throw? something on a plate for us. We were very grateful as we were starving. She put a couple of items on a plate for us. The ?usual? full Irish wasn't available as breakfast was over, but yet on checkout they charged us €20 for a full Irish breakfast. Obviously more than happy to pay for breakfast but to charge us for something we didn't get! ?Its an old hotel? is not a plausible excuse, there are castles that are hundreds of years old and manage to provide ?modern? facilities e.g. running hot water, shower head with actual water coming from them, radiators that heat rooms and duvets to cover beds (not 100 year old woollen blankets) This hotel deserves a 1 star and simply because of the staff. They are so good, pleasant (under the circumstances they have to work in), helpful and nice to have a conversation with. They did do their best when we raised the issues with them, but it was obviously out of their control. They deserve medals for working there.

    « Pet Friendly »

Stayed between Xmas and New Years. This was a last minute trip, and the only pet friendly hotel. On arrival we brought Jessie our King Charles into reception, the receptionist came out to greet Jess. We got a garden room, very clean with crisp white linen there was a problem with the lads portable bed, we went out for 40 minutes and on return the bed had being replaced. You only know how good a place is when you have an issue and Danby lodge was brilliant. The bar man was very pleasant and engaged with residents in the bar, the bar was quite but nice. Over all our stay was very comfortable and we would not hesitate return should the occasion arise.

« More Crossroads than Dallas »

I wouldn't recommend this hotel for your Summer Holidays, but it is a very serviceable option for the odd night or two before (or after) a ferry crossing. The reception is friendly and efficient. Our room was basic, no frills,we were glad to have somewhere on a really stormy night between Christmas and New Year with most hotels near Rosslare mostly full. We intended to eat out but the weather decided us to eat in. In line with the general level the bar/ restaurant area is comfortable but not plush. The service was most friendly and efficient, the food freshly prepared and adequate and value for money. Most people this evening chose to eat at the hotel (weather). Having stayed here before, I would reckon that these opinions are pretty constant, so this is a good bet for a no nonsense inexpensive stay in a friendly environment if your travels take you to Rosslare.

« Fantastic for dog lovers as small outside cottages line the hotel grounds »

This was a real find . Small cottages to the outside of the hotel meant no problem for dog lovers and ideal if you need a crafty cigarette outside as your door opens onto a small courtyard! The hotel staff were warm and friendly, the hotel bar/restaurant serves a great selection of snacks or hot meals. This hotel is less than 10 mins drive to the Harbour so a great location for those wishing the spend a night before or after ferry travel.

« Efficient preparation site for car ferry »

I stayed recently as it's very convenient for the morning ferries from Rosslare. A cheerful reception and good room at an excellent off - season price, a nourishing meal in the bar, quiet at night and a good breakfast with up-to-date information on ferry departure : everything a traveller needed!

« Handy, friendly and pet friendly »

We stayed here before a Rosslare to Cherbourg ferry to avoid an early morning long drive from Co Down. The hotel is right on the main road into Rosslare. We chose it for location and also small dogs allowed in the bedrooms. The main hotel was not busy but there was a lively function in the separate function room although this didn't annoy us. Our bedroom was a small courtyard style single storey looking onto a grassy area handy for walking the dog and thoughtfully provided with a bin for poop bags. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was fine, not fancy but good. Overall the rooms showed their age a bit but as a one night stay it was fine. Our room was chilly when we arrived (at the height of two storms) but warmed up while we were off eating dinner. Plenty of parking close to reception area with separate parking for function guests.

« Our trip to the Republic of Ireland »

We arrived at the hotel after 4 hours on the ferry from Pembroke. It is quite a large building that was easy to find on the main road and had ample car parking. We booked in easily, our reservation had been logged and the room was ready for us when we arrived. We had booked a family room which consisted of one double and one single bed which were both made up ready. It was a large room with a lovely bathroom. There were clean towels, soap and shampoo in a dispenser. The bathroom was clean and well maintained. The television was a flat screen one and had an excellent picture. There was a clock radio also which was easy to set for an early start. Breakfast was extra and could be eaten in an area set aside in the bar from 7am onwards. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the area. They explained where one could go during the day. This is a very nice, clean and well run hotel. For the cost we found it to be great value for money. We would use this again most certainly.

    « Curate's Egg »

Staff and Food Great, Plumbing and rooms need work! Couldn't turn the heating off and with window open we got the products from noisy extractor fan from kitchens just outside. The toilet was blocked and we had to sort that out in the middle of the first night. A noisy ball cock in the main supply tank in the roof ( or somewhere) serenaded us on and off all night. We stayed three nights and all were the same, you get used to things!; pity really because it should have been better, we were a bit sad after leaving because it was slightly disappointing. Would recommend it but be prepared for noise. Plus marks: Only six minutes from the Rosslare Ferry to UK, easy to find on main road.

« Great value and great staff »

This hotel is ideally situated for the ferry port at Rosslare. It has a large car park and is easy to find, being on the main road to Rosslare. Check in was easy and our rooms (5 and 6) were excellent - spacious, clean, quiet with plenty of plug points and decent wifi. Both breakfast and dinner were very good - nice sized portions, well cooked and presented. All the staff I met were brilliant - very helpful and chatty. A bargain stay, luckily I am back every week until Christmas so it was a good choice!

« A comfy bed before the morning Ferry »

On the main road into Rosslare the hotel is easy to find and has plenty of parking. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. We had a few beers in the bar before bed, the staff kindle offered to make us supper even though we'd missed the dinner service. A good nights sleep in a comfy bed and a good breakfast timed nicely for getting to the ferry on time. We've stayed once before in an emergency when we missed the ferry and were not disappointed on our return. We will be making nights at the Danby Lodge a regular thing when we take the ferry.

    « Disappointed »

Sorry to say, I was disappointed with my overnight stay and dinner in the Danby Lodge. The room was nicely decorated and furnished however it was very noisy between people walking up and down corridors and especially any movement from the room directly above me. Overall the room was colder than one would expect. There was an overwhelming smell of air freshener in the bedrooom The Shower did not work at any setting. Only Irish channels available on the TV. I went for a meal in the bar which was uncomfortably cold which was noticeable by no one removing their jackets or fleeces. The seating needs deep cleaning or re-covering. My greatest problem was when I ordered my meal I distinctly asked for no onions (I am allergic to them!). When my meal arrived the steak was sitting on a bed of onions!!! When I pointed this out to the waiter he apologised, took away the meat but left the side plate of chips on my table. He returned with the steak later which had to be the same one but on a new plate without the onions. I no longer had an appetite to eat the meal......

« A night in Rosslare after coming off the boat »

Danby Lodge is easily found being on the main road to Dublin, about 4 miles from the port. The receptionist was welcoming and obliging. Our room was spacious, clean (you could see the hoover marks on the pile), and had good lighting. The tea tray had quality coffee and tea bags (Gold Blend), and the bed was clean and comfortable. There was plenty of heat, and the bathroom was nicely fitted out. Breakfast was well catered for with a range of choices.

« Staff fabulous, food great, a wonderful time thanks »

We visited Southern Ireland and stayed at the Danby lodge hotel for 6 nights. Knowing it was not a five star hotel we were on a sensible budget and we could not be more pleased. We had a room at the rear of the hotel and it was as expected, comfortable with bathroom , tv and kettle for tea and coffee. The staff were so helpful we were looking to relocate and they went out of there way to provide us with Irish health details and web sites to look at. The crunch is always would we go back YES

    « Excellent value »

Great value, spacious room and bathroom, all very clean. Was made to feel very welcome. Food and drink on site, which was plentiful and reasonably priced. 10 minute drive to Rosslare port. Would recommend

    « Trip to ireland »

This the tops we stayed here on the way to ring of kerry after our ferry crossing .fom Fishguard to rosslare .It is 7 minutes from the ferry Port along a straight road the food is very good. evening meal and breakfast.cooked just rightthe staff very helpful and pleasant..rooms very clean we rebooked another night on the way back to the ferry 6 days later cannot fault this hotel if you want a good place to stay this is it .highly recommended

    « First & last stop Hotel »

Everything about this hotel is good for the independent traveller. Staff are so helpful and obliging nothing is ever a problem with them. Rooms are great in the hotel and lodges. Love the freedom of this hotel. Be back again next year. Off the boat and you feel straight at home.

    « Very Noisy »

Stayed here on a Thursday and they were holding their third wedding that week and when we left on Friday they were setting up for another that day. The hotel is badly built with no sound insulation you can hear all you neighbours talking and going to the toilet etc. the wedding guests were still coming back at all hours talking loudly in the corridors, the final ones hammering on our door at 4am too drunk to find their own room. Pity as the staff were lovely but I'll not stay here again

    « NEAR FERRY »

Stayed one night for ferry. Staff friendly. Breakfast excellent and good value. Evening meal good but would prefer steak on a plate rather than wooden board. Unfortunately Room 23 smells strongly of wet dog and room freshener. Tight with coffee/tea sachets. Double bed seemed small.
