"Family Wedding"

User 07/06/2021

We were attending a small family wedding close to the hotel and stayed for 3 nights. The staff were excellent and went above and beyond in all respects including .keeping the wedding cake in the fridge, bringing it out on several occasions during our stay and before we left packing the leftover portion in a box with cold bricks for a long journey home ..

"Well situated and beautiful hotel with great facilities and fantastic staff"

blueberrystace, Newbury, United Kingdom 07/06/2021

We stayed here last night for a relaxed night after a very busy weekend and had a lovely time. The hotel was nicely decorated inside and out with a small garden area to sit in for drinks, as well as a bar and restaurant. However, the location of the hotel was not what we expected upon arrival. Looking at the website, we got the impression it was a country hotel in the countryside but the hotel is actually on the side of the road. Nonetheless, this wasn't an issue as we didn't really hear the road traffic from our room and still had a great nights sleep. We were also a 10-15 minute walk into Kendal town centre which had plenty of places to eat and drink if you fancy going somewhere else. Frydays of Kendal is a great place for fish and chips if you fancy a reasonably priced and very nice chippy dinner! Our room was beautiful, clean and well thought out. We had everything we needed, including a fan which was much appreciated as it has been particularly hot this weekend! Check in was smooth and staff were friendly and just couldn't do enough for you. Our stay included breakfast which was excellent, served by Sylvia who was so smiley and polite. Overall, we felt so relaxed and were so glad that we chose to stay here - We'll definitely be returning in the future!

"First Break Since Covid"

g1960c, Burnley, United Kingdom 24/05/2021

Slow start to the weekend, we had booked for breakfast but they had no trace of it, then the lift was out of order and we were four flights up, nobody offered to take our bags either. The room was in good shape though, very clean and tidy, I don't know when it was last decorated but it looked fresh. We had a couple of issues with having forgotten tooth paste and running out of tea and milk, these were sorted quickly and hassle free. We had a drink in the bar but as we were the only ones in the atmosphere was distinctly lacking later on in the evening it looked busier and a bit more welcoming and lively. We didn't try the pool facilities although it was open with some social distancing restrictions still in place. The breakfast was very good, table service and the QR code for the menu was probably due to Covid restrictions but it didn't detract from the service for me, maybe even enhancing it. We had three different breakfasts and they were all good, wholesome and tasty. We had meals out both nights that we stayed there but looking at the standard of meals the restaurants provided we later thought we would perhaps have been better staying at the hotel restaurant. Overall a pleasant stay and likely to visit again if in Kendal.

"Safe and sound"

Digory, Stokenham, United Kingdom 13/05/2021

Excellent systems in place to keep everyone safe an all spotlessly clean . Great receptionist who was very professional. Breakfast surprisingly good considering it had to be served in the room. Would certainly stay again

"Fork this hotel!"

User 27/02/2021

I stayed at this property during Covid lockdown. After returning with takeaway, I realized there was no utensils in the bag. I asked reception if I could use a fork from their kitchen. Helen, the manager refused to allow me to use a fork as "they would get fined £10,000 for violating covid policy. " To avoid eating with my fingers, I had to order something off their room service menu in order to obtain a fork. Fined for lending a fork. Come on. You must eat in your room, so at least be reasonable. Didn't see reasonable at Stone Cross Manor.

Helen Clark, General Manager at Stonecross Manor Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Liann. Thank you for your somewhat exaggerated review. I am unsure where you got the £10,000 fine from as I never stated that. Our role during this pandemic, is to keep our lovely staff and customers safe. We are following our own company COVID risk assessment and government policies by limiting contact with guests and customers. This means that we now do not provide cutlery or plates to guests bringing in takeaways. I would have been more than happy to advise you of this should you or your husband have enquired.

"Regular stay for work"

292jemmac, Stockton Heath, United Kingdom 05/02/2021

Stayed regularly at the Stonecross for work and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Great breakfast and think it is the best hotel in Kendal. Will definitely stay here again in the future.....

Thank you 292jemma for your lovely review and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

"Lovely stay"

User 17/12/2020

What a lovely stay we had, stayed through December for 2 nights. Great place very clean and friendly staff. Really appreciate the staff showing great values for social distancing and safety. Lovely room we had- mazzive bed and lovely showe! rooms are not double glazed but not an issue because not much traffic, pool was ok, little cold but you don't want long in there anyway. We sat and had a drink in the lounge an was just nice and relaxing with music and the fake fire on, Breakfast was lovely too. Would stay again lovely close to Kendal, would recommend visiting Windermere too stunning place. Thanks for the stay and hVe a lovely Christmas x

Helen Clark, General Manager at Stonecross Manor Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you Alice0701 for your lovely review. I am pleased that you appreciated the 'safety' aspect of your stay and we hope to welcome you back again.

"Excellent choice for short break in the Lake District."

edwardbowron, Gloucester, United Kingdom 23/10/2020

From the initial booking to check out this was a very enjoyable experience. The original intention of a week in Scotland meeting old friends to celebrate a milestone birthday were cancelled by COVID19 restrictions so a quick alternative was needed. Having seen an advert for a 3 for 2 nights break offer from Best Western we decided a short trip to the Lake District would suit as it was equidistant from me in Gloucestershire and my friends in Fife. We were made very welcome by all the staff. The rooms were very comfortable with good bathrooms and beds. We enjoyed delicious breakfasts each morning as well as a very good dinner on the first night. Sadly we didn't get the opportunity to use the leisure facilities as we did not find the time. Ample car parking and easy access to Windermere etc suited us very well. The COVID19 precautions were first class without being too obtrusive. Overall great value for money. Thanks for a great stay and we will certainly return next time we are in the area.

Helen Clark, General Manager at Stonecross Manor Hotel, responded to this review
What an excellent review and we are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. Thank you for appreciating our precautions that we have in place and we look forward to welcoming you again to the Stonecross.

"Cracking hotel and top food"

Willearl, High Legh, United Kingdom 21/10/2020

We stayed in one of the suites for one night with a dinner bed and breakfast offer. Good was amazing, couldn't fault it. Staff were lovely. We had the pool to ourselves when we got there (arrived at 6ish). Will definitely stay here again.

Helen Clark, General Manager at Stonecross Manor Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you Willearl for your excellent review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Stonecross.

"Fabulous Stay."

User 16/10/2020

Ideal location to visit the Lake District.Could not fault a thing. Stayed for four nights in a very relaxed atmosphere with amazing food from the breakfast to evening meal. Helen the Hotel Manager with her wonderful staff were so friendly and so professional, as nothing was to much trouble to ask for and always with a smile. Excellent COVID measures in place. Will definitely recommend to friends and family.

"Relaxing stay in Kendal"

User 14/10/2020

I stayed here with my partner for two nights and we both had a relaxing break. We had dinner in the restaurant on the first night and breakfast both mornings and the food was lovely. There were Covid restrictions in place at the hotel, however we were still able to use the pool on a 'four people at a time' basis which worked well. The bar shut at 10pm in line with Government restrictions, but we had the option to order drinks to our room if wanted which was handy. I accidentally left a pair of my shoes in the room when we left and the hotel staff kindly posted them back to me so they really go above and beyond! I would recommend staying at the hotel which is a short walk to Kendal Centre and a short drive to Windermere. We would stay here again!

"Relaxing stay "

Emma92xo, West Mersea, United Kingdom 11/10/2020

Me and my partner have just returned from a 2 night stay here, wow, what a relaxing break! All the staff were so friendly and welcoming, and nothing was too much to ask. Food was absolutely delicious! (Especially evening meals) Very nice decor in the bar/restaurant area. Rooms were clean and spacious. Pool area was nice, we enjoyed our evening swim before dinner! Overall a great stay in a great location! We would definitely return here.

"Comfortable stay"

HanHan200, Moffat, United Kingdom 07/10/2020

Comfortable stay, good COVID measures in place. We were located on the 2nd floor the lift is still out of order and there looks to be no rush to fix this. The hotel is very warm and being on the 2nd floor in a small double we really felt the heat even in October. The radiator was off and the window open from the minute we arrived until we left. Breakfast was brilliant with good service and a good selection of cooked and Continental foods. There was a couple of minor details in the room that could of been better for the rating of the hotel. The 1st being the complimentary biscuits on the tea tray best before date being the date of our arrival- I only looked at this as they were soft. The 2nd being the mugs not matching. Small details like this could be easily rectified. Though the room was small it did have all the facilities needed for our stay. We made use of the swimming pool facilities which were clean and adhered to appropriate guidelines. Overall it is a lovely hotel to stay in. I would however choose to eat and drink out in Kendal it's self just for a better atmosphere and better selection of drinks. Great if you want a comfortable stay and a good breakfast!

"A couple of nights in The Lake District"

209964Mike, Warminster, United Kingdom 07/10/2020

Stayed for a few nights as part of a holiday in the North of England. The room on our first night was in the front of the hotel and was subject to quite a bit of traffic noise. We were willingly moved to another room at the side of the hotel for the rest of our stay and this was much better. Ate in a couple of nights and dinner was excellent - as was breakfast. Quite a walk into Kendal and the hotel does lack grounds though there is plenty of parking. Staff were so friendly and helpful.

"Wedding anniversary "

SusanOldham2013, Chester, United Kingdom 01/10/2020

I must say this was a beautiful place to stay. Very central to everywhere. Such friendly staff and nothing was to much trouble. Very clean and comfortable place to relax and stay. We stayed for 3 nights ate in the hotel every night. The food was amazing we could not fault it. A safe place to stay in these Covid times. I would highly recommend as a place to stay.

"Great stay in a lovely location"

KarenMWestMidlands, West Midlands 26/09/2020

We stayed Monday to Friday on a B&B basis. Breakfast was excellent and good value for money. We stayed in room 206, large room with enormous bed and two chairs and a small table. Good shower over the bath with toiletries provided. Staff were very COVID aware at all times, following the ever changing government guidelines. Our thanks to manager Helen, receptionist Hazel and food and bar Sylvia. These three ladies provided consistent service and always with a smile, no request too much. Would definitely stay again

"Good parking"

keefLondon, london 26/09/2020

Recently stayed at the Stonecross Manor for two nights mid week and thinking we were treating ourselves I booked a “Junior Suite Country View” at a cost of £242 / night. On checking in we were very disappointed with the room because that's all it was, a slightly larger room than normal with a coffee table and a couple of dining chairs – nowhere comfortable to sit and the TV mounted on a side wall so when laying in bed you had to peer over to the left, awkward in a double bed. Were advised on checking in that the rooms would not be entered by staff due to Covic but on request and after advising them we would be out for the day the towels were changed and tea/coffee replenished. The black mould and dust around the windows gave the impression that maintenance or cleaning were not the main priorities and the whole room could have done with an update. Bar area itself is a bit basic, adjoined onto the dining area but there was a seating area with Covic spaced tables and decent seating on the other side of reception. Drinks expensive but expected in a hotel bar, no real ale available although the pumps were there. We had booked Half Board and both breakfasts and evening meals were good but you are limited to £30 each off the menu for the evening meal and with a steak at £26 it didn't leave much. Kendal is not a lot to write home about, not many bars or restaurants open but if you want a haircut there's a lot of choice.

"Lovely hotel in good location"

valg169, Salisbury, United Kingdom 24/09/2020

Room small but clean & everything you need.Found pillows very hard Food excellent. Pool is small but nice - had it to ourselves most of the time. Evening menu a bit limited - same all week but food excellent again. Staff friendly and quite chatty once we got to know them. Walking distance to Kendal about 15 minutes which is a very nice historic town.Had problem with shouting neighbours 1.30 in the morning - they were eventually moved to another hotel at 3.30!. Our meal was taken off our bill as an apology from the manager which was appreciated.

"Mid week stay 17/9/20"

User 20/09/2020

I am not one to usually complain but I feel this time I wanted to make this clear. Myself and my girlfriend paid £165 for a superior room for a mid week stay. The key card holder was held on the wall by sellotape, mould was growing on the inside of the window and the ironing board was ripped and in a poor state. We was very dissatisfied with this for the price of the room we paid. We made the hotel staff aware who simply said thanks for letting us know and offered no explanation or refund. This type of room was completely unacceptable for the price that was charged. I have attached pictures to illustrate the issues.

"Fabulous hotel very relaxung"

CarolineR903, Nottingham, United Kingdom 18/09/2020

We stayed Monday to Thursday on a breakfast and evening meal basis with the junior suit. The hotel is very relaxing we loved sitting in the coctail lounge after dinner enjoying a coctail or two. The food was delicious please compliment your chef. Also the staff were all very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We had a perfect break and want to thank our all for doing such a great job during this difficult time. We will come back again for sure.

User 17/09/2020

Staff are lovely and very helpful, food was 10/10 & location was ideal, very easy to find (only 20 minutes to Windermere) Would strongly recommend. Just a heads up.. Scafell pike is a 1.5 / 2 hour drive but easy to find if you follow the sat nav

"Good location "

Purehorizon, Syston, United Kingdom 13/09/2020

The staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was a great start to the day. The restaurant was good, although we felt limited in terms of vegetarian choice. The sandwiches were amazing! Whilst it is positioned as fine dining the absence of pasta was disappointing however the inclusion of chips we found quite contradictory to the positioning of the menu (please feedback to chef). The small double room was very small and warm even in September and we found it quite claustrophobic and welcomed a quieter room on the side of the property. It was a good 25 minute walk down into Kendal, don't forget it's all uphill on the way back! A great team and very professional providing a lovely staycation break in a good location.

"Fab staff"

User 05/09/2020

The hotel and staff were better than expected after reading some of the reviews on here. But I couldn't fault the staff or the hotel. It was just 15mins from Windermere. The food was fabulous and breakfast set you up for the day.

"Fabulous place"

User 31/08/2020

This is a great place to stay. Its located near the town centre and motorways. The staff couldn't do enough for us during our stay. The food, whether its breakfast, afternoon tea or dinner is delicious. Given we are vegetarians, there was a good amount of flexibility with food options. Thank you to all the staff who served us with warmth, consideration and efficiency.

"Not what we paid for, extra surprises on the bathroom floor "

EmileeS97, Manchester, United Kingdom 31/08/2020

Checked in yesterday afternoon looking forward to stay in what should have been a decent hotel. The hotel cost £162 for one night as I had paid to stay in a ‘superior' room with a kingsize bed. We had picked this hotel because of the spa facilities. These facilities were closed due to the virus, however this was not advertised. After check in we walked up to our room on the second floor because the lift was broken. The ‘superior' room had a standard double bed and was run down and dated: cracked paint, marks on the wall and shabby furniture. We were not impressed. In the bathroom on floor we found 3 very dark curly hairs. Disgusting. The hotel had signs all over boasting about the cleanliness and honestly with the virus around it is unbelievable that cleaning was done without care and attention. The shower was also small and not adjustable, the bath was the same. I am confident it was designed with only children in mind.

"Good stay"

Sanka1, Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom 30/08/2020

We stayed at this hotel 2 nights on a family vacation to lake district. The first thing that strikes you is it is a nice and cosy hotel located within 30mins from Windermere. Kendal is a great town and the hotel is just a 20min walk from the city centre. The staff are very nice, rooms are modern, there's a swimming pool, a good restaurant, a nice sit down area, very good breakfast which are all positive. However the rooms are quite small and that's the reason for the 3 star rating.

"Absolutely brilliant night stay!"

User 20/03/2020

Stayed here as a couple for one night on our way down South from Scotland! Could not recommend this hotel enough! The room was absolutely lovely, both breakfast and dinner were delicious and the spa was great. The staff could not have been nicer or more helpful and one night in this hotel was not enough!! We will definitely return as soon as we get the chance!

"Stop off on the way home from scotland"

User 01/03/2020

Didn't want to have to drive all the way home from Scotland so checked booking.com for a overnight stay. This was £57 for the night and was the second cheapest (after travel lodge, but we didn't want to stay there). Hotel was really nice, didn't get chance to use the facilities as there is a spa there. Food was nice, although I only had a snack. Parking available. Really comfy bed, it was massive too! We stayed in the lounge area having some drinks and watching the TV. Great stopover. Would come back if we were in the area!

"Faults but good service"

Domsue, Derby, United Kingdom 24/02/2020

We were originally in room 207 but found a broken bath rail, broken toilet seat and 3 out of 4 wall lights needing new bulbs. We complained and were offered a choice of 2 alternative rooms. We chose 106 which was a good compromise. Hotel was really hot, they need to turn it down. Swimming pool was broken so was cold but still swimable. Food and service was good

"Excellent Stay!"

Have just returned home from a fabulous break at Stonecross Manor hotel. Check in was smooth and friendly with the wonderful Hazel and Ailsa on the front desk. Greeted with a smile and professionalism. Treated myself to a dip in the lovely large swimming pool follwoed by jacuzzi and sauna. Clean, relaxing and sheer bliss. The newly refurbished restaurant and bar provided an excellent surrounding for a truly wonderful meal served by friendly effecient staff. The manager Helen was on hand to help with local area knowledge and charming conversation. She obviously runs a very smooth operation. I couldnt fault a single thing even the bedroom exceeded my expectations with its spacious interior, wonderful bed and flatscreen t.v. 10 out of 10 would highly recommend and i will certainly return .

Stayed back in December for a works christmas party. The food and staff were lovely. The hotel was so relaxing and a nice couple of nights away after Christmas. Would definitely recommend. The bedrooms are beautiful, clean and newly decorated. Hotel is in good location with good car parking. Unfortunately the restaurant was average, menu had changed from what was in room so no steak available. What we ordered was nice but not special. Breakfast was freshly cooked and hearty but stay sadly let down by evening meal.

StonecrossManorHotel, General Manager at Stonecross Manor Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you Allan F for your review and I am pleased that you enjoyed some aspects of your stay with us. In a nutshell I cannot fault the hotel and its staff. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed and made to feel at home by the staff. In particular Amy and Hazel who went out of their way to ensure our stay was a pleasant one. Although every member of staff were pleasant and friendly. The food was beautiful- faultless in every way. The room was lovely, warm and clean and was cleaned daily if required. The pool, spa abd sauna were amazing also. There is nothing negative to share about this break. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you to everyone at stonecross ! We will see you again soon.

Very polite and helpful staff especially foreign receptionist who helped me with my luggage! The breakfast was very tasty and the dinner to die for!I have ordered royal burger which was very big and delicious! Definitely worth waiting! My room was nicely decorated ,spacious and very clean, toilet looks very modern and new! After all day I went to the beautiful(free of charge) spa and enjoyed it! I definitely recommend this hotel and will be back!

"Absolutely awful from start to finish!"

User 03/01/2020

Checked in and was assigned to a room that was already occupied having entered into it (major security issue here)! Dinner was an awful experience, very undercooked and an hour wait for a goats cheese starter that was inedible when it arrived! The hospitality team were everything but hospitable. Absolute disaster!

"Christmas '19!"

User 27/12/2019

Another excellent stay at Stonecross Manor. We once again stayed in the Westmorland Suite (room 103). The new style decor is very pleasant indeed. It is both comfortable and very spacious. The bathroom boost's a walk in shower (which is great) and a bath. All important for a short stay. We return every Christmas because the staff are nice, with a familiar yet professional, the food which is always excellent especially the much revised evening menu! It caters for my wife's love of all things fish and vegetable and also for my carnivorous appetite. The five course Christmas day lunch is relaxed, you eat when you want at a pace which suits you, the service is catered to you and not a rigid timetable, which is excellent! We will be back again next Christmas, it is a family tradition. We are also planning a return stay, perhaps over Easter. Kendal is such a great place to stay if you want discover all that the Lakes and South Coastline of Cumbria can offer! Thank you Helen and all the staff at Stonecross Manor and a Happy New Year to you all!

Thank you AndrewS for such a fantastic review and we are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us (even the Kendal Mint Cake Vodka!!). I will make sure that all the staff read it. We look forward to seeing you again at Easter. All the best for the new year.

"Anniversary Stay"

Brian M, Poulton Le Fylde, United Kingdom 04/12/2019

Two night special offer stay for wedding anniversary. Warmly welcomed by friendly reception staff, Lift to 2nd floor bedroom a bit old and slow but still working and what a surprise on opening the door and finding a huge bed in a quite large room. Great size bathroom with all you need. Coffee/tea making facilities and biscuits in bedroom too. Restaurant has a varied menu sensibly priced and dinner and breakfast all cooked fresh to order. Add to this a smallish swimming pool with sauna and jacuzzi and you have pretty much all you need for a short stay. On site parking available. Would highly recommend!!

StonecrossManorHotel, General Manager at Stonecross Manor Hotel, responded to this review

The Stonecross Manor gave us an excellent experience that we will definitely be looking to repeat. From the courteous first hello to the final smile at check out, the hotel did everything we could ask for.

Thanks karlspencer63 for your excellent review which the staff were delighted to read. We hope to welcome you back in the near future.

"Do not go in the jacuzzi!!"

User 15/11/2019

Me and my husband came to stay for 2 nights for my birthday. The rooms were rather small and hardly any space when you go to the toilet but apart from that the room was clean. However, I went in the jacuzzi on the first day we arrived and again on the last day. The colour of the water looked a little bit off but I thought that might be due to the chemicals etc. 2 days after our stay I came out in spots which quickly turned into very sore lumps which I had to have time off of work for. I went to the doctors and they told me I had something called hot tub folliculitis which is a bacterial infection caused my a hot tub/ jacuzzi or pool that hasnt been cleaned properly so he advised me to contact the hotel straight away! I phoned the hotel I didnt even get an apology or anything so I sent an email straight to the manager. Over a week later I finally got a response basically saying I must have caught it from somewhere else as her records say they were cleaned frequently. THIS WAS THE ONLY HOT TUB/ JACUZZI AND POOL I HAVE BEEN IN IN A LONG TIME! I explained this to the manager aswell but still made it out as if it wasnt there fault! I have had to have time off of work for this and I havent been offered anything for what has happened just passing the blame on somewhere else! I will be taking matters further but I would advise people to avoid the facilities!

StonecrossManorHotel, General Manager at Stonecross Manor Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you Burgjen for your slanderous comments which I have asked Trip Advisor to remove. Unfortunately, this has not been possible so I find myself having to reply to your accusations. As repeated in the emails to you, our spa pool; is tested every two hours and is backwashed and cleaned twice a week (more if it is required). All of our paperwork tells me that the levels in all aspects of the pool and spa are more than adequate and are in line with HSE regulations. I think this clarifies the main points in your review.

Norrie S, Wishaw, United Kingdom 25/10/2019

This was our third visit to this hotel and after a gap of some three years we were keen to see what changes had been made as some of the photos on the website made it look different. It is situated an easy stroll out of the town centre, and at first glance is a characterful building. Plenty of parking spaces to front and rear. First difference was obvious on entering the front door. The old enclosed reception desk has gone and been replaced by a modern style stand alone one. The lounge area on the left with its' leather dark brown/maroon coloured armchairs has been brightened up in decor and sofa seating installed. We had booked a king suite room and were glad of the choice. Our previous experiences of the rooms were of old style wooden furniture which was comfortable but dated. Now our room which was very spacious had vibrant coloured decor and modern furniture fittings and a modern bathroom. We used the swimming pool which has also had a makeover, with the old mural now gone and replaced by modern wall covering. The changing rooms have also been upgraded which is a great improvement. We had enjoyed dinners here previously and the standard is still as good. Breakfast is no longer straight buffet style but choice of cereals/fruit/fruit juice and the obligatory slow single toaster, then a choice from a menu which can be amended on request. We had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. As they say, we like what they've done with the place and we would'nt hesitate to return

StonecrossManorHotel, General Manager at Stonecross Manor Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you Norrie S for your wonderful review and I am pleased that you were appreciative of the changes we have made since taking over the hotel in 2017. We look forward to welcoming you back when you return to the Lake District.

"A lovely evening in the restaurant but could do better"

susiedu, Kendal, United Kingdom 23/10/2019

We joined some family who were staying here for dinner so this review is for the restaurant only. The food was very good and there was a reasonable choice with an a la carte and a set price menu for two or three courses. The beef rib was delicious and the soup thick with pureed vegetables and very tasty. The only downside was the service. This was not the fault of our server who was friendly and pleasant, but rather the level of staffing; there obviously weren't enough on duty. When we arrived there were two couples dining and there were only four of us, so it wasn't exactly busy. Even so, service was very slow and at one point we couldn't get a drink as the bar was unstaffed and the waitress had disappeared into the kitchen. In the middle of serving us our main course the waitress had to stop to get a table ready for a large party that had just arrived, so two of us had to sit looking at our food while the others waited for theirs to be delivered. It wasn't a disaster for us, we had a lot to catch up on, but if there had only been two of us we may well have walked out.

"Lovely looking hotel with a few issues!"

j00895, Leeds, United Kingdom 17/10/2019

The hotel looks lovely from the outside, we stayed in a superior room so I dread to think how small the standard rooms are! The room was clean and comfortable and had a good nights sleep, the bathroom was tiny, no way a larger person would have been able to sit on the toilet as it was too near the sink. Only one person looking after reception and the bar area until evening so she was running backwards and forwards. The evening meal was lovely and drinks prices not too bad compared to other hotels, the breakfast was cold and my poached eggs rock hard so wasn't too impressed with that. I was surprised to get a phone call in the room at 10.45 to ask if we were checking out (check out time is 11am). We left the room at 10.55, receptionist was really friendly, said we could leave the car and have a wander into Kendal but we decided to use the pool and spa first. This is really where the hotel lets itself down, the pictures on the internet look gorgeous but the sides of the pool were filthy and the handles to get into the pool at water level were covered in scum. The jacuzzi was a strange yellow colour and water level really low, my partner got in and turned on the jets to receive the most awful smell of stale water, he immediately got out. Another gentleman also looked at getting in but decided it looked disgusting. Unfortunately I doubt we will return as it was the pool etc that drew me to that hotel

"Beautiful lovely staff"

Annie1066, Hinckley, United Kingdom 14/10/2019

Had just the one night here. The hotel was beautiful, location great for the lakes and not too far from the motorway. Missed supper as we got delayed and didn't see the pool for the same reason. The room was a little chilly on arrival, but the weather had turned and it was nice and toastie after we put heating on. The bathroom was immaculate and the bed comfy. The sheets were to die for, beautifully soft. The breakfast was good and the staff very friendly. Service was a little slow and we did have to go and find staff for the bar, but only a minor quibble. The lounge was comfortable and plenty of room so that you weren't on top of each other. Not the cheapest but you pay for what you get. Hope to come back here again when we have a little more time.

martingrasby, Moreton-in-Marsh, United Kingdom 10/10/2019

Comfortable accommodation.easy parking. Helpful, welcoming staff. Enjoyed the pool, jacuzzi & steam room facilities after a day of long walks. Good breakfast catering for vegetarian too. Just 15 - 20 min walk into Kendal which has lots places to eat & great arts centre with cinema, theatre etc.

"Best food, lovely hotel"

NickAlt14, Milton Keynes, England, United Kingdom 06/10/2019

Great service from the moment I walked through the door. Beautiful room with amenities and extras as expected. Dinner was sublime .... one of the best meals I have had anywhere for a long time. Check-out was quick and easy. Parking easy and close to reception.

"Mr Tansey"

User 29/09/2019

Would not recommend this hotel. Sunday morning checked out by 8.30am noise from room next door all night, was told by manager when checking out we should of asked a night porter to move us in the middle of the night which Is unacceptable. The breakfast on Saturday morning service was unacceptable £11.50 a head and staff making you feel uncomfortable when making a reasonable request. Also pool and jacuzzi is photo shopped very well we picked this hotel for these facilities. Jacuzzi dirty smelly and can see dead skin floating around wish I would of got my own photos but could not wait to get out of there was told pool side was cleaned twice a day which is very hard to believe. Manager did offer us £50 back and free breakfast which is still not good enough I would not waste your money going to this hotel

StonecrossManorHotel, General Manager at Stonecross Manor Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Mr Tansey. Thank you for posting your review and I am very sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us. However, I would like to take this opportunity to clarify a few points. I am very confused regarding your comments to breakfast on Saturday. You did indeed ask for some toast from the kitchen, some tea instead of the coffee that you had ordered and then some fresh bread on the buffet as well as a couple of things, all of which were delivered to you without any fuss so I don't believe that the service was unacceptable as everything you requested you received. We have had some amazing comments regarding our staff and they are very upset to read this review. The pool and jacuzzi are backwashed and cleaned overnight as well as monitored throughout the day with pool and spa readings taken four times a day. We were very busy in the leisure area on Saturday but this is the first comment we have received regarding the cleanliness of the jacuzzi. All of our marketing material shows an accurate portrayal of the hotel and we do not 'photoshop' any of our images. I think the refund of £50 plus breakfast as well as all of your drinks which you had consumed in the bar was more than adequate. I apologise for your noisy neighbours and yes, we have a night porter for this reason so he would have been more than happy to help if you had rung down at 12am when the noise started. I sincerely apologise for the issues you encountered during your stay with us and I hope that the next time you are in the Lakes, you will find a suitable hotel which fits in with your needs.

"Overall a good hotel. Room description inaccurate. Pool area great."

User 16/09/2019

Hotel was actually nice. Room was lovely. But described as a king suite. Suite means more than one room by dictionary and generally understood description. Was one room with a desk on one side and a coffee table on the other. This made it impossible for one person to work and the other to sleep as you needed to turn on lights or talk on the phone in the one room. Also the beside table lights weren't shaded so at night if one person wanted to read and the other to sleep, your bedside light lit up the whole room. We paid the extra on the basis of a suite of rooms so this was a big letdown. However if you didn't mind being misled, the room was lovely. The bathroom was lovely. A small point of the open shower/wet room style meant to get back out of the bathroom you had to cross the wet floor. But only a small point. One other small point is the room was so big surely the kettle could be placed on a better table not hanging slightly off a shelf with the cups on? Seemed a bit precarious considering the ample size of the room. However I would go back. The pool was great and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. As mentioned elsewhere on here the breakfast sausages needed changing but overall a good stay.

StonecrossManorHotel, General Manager at Stonecross Manor Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you Denise D for your review and thank you for highlighting your issues and I will make sure these are rectified. There are some reading lights fitted into the side of the headboard which you can use when reading a book so you do not disturb your partner. We will look into the position of the kettle and see if we can relocate it somewhere else in the room. Overall, I am glad that you enjoyed your stay with us and yes, the suite, is a lovely room so I am pleased that you appreciated our recent refurbishment. Despite the niggles, I hope to welcome you again in the future.

"Good find"

Stayed overnight in this convenient located hotel and for the price it was excellent value. We had evening meal and breakfast which were delicious. Friendly bar staff, waitress and receptionist. Clean well appointed room which had recently had a makeover. Will return next time in Kendal.

"Nothing special"

User 30/08/2019

We visited this place as non guests to use the pool facilities and bar. Staff pleasant enough but considering whole place has had refurbishment pool area still very tired and unclean. They also have this ridiculous thing that even if you pay membership to use pool if a couple of hotel guests are in pool you can't use facilities, seems unfair to give hotel guests priority over paying members.

"Beautiful Hotel"

Very nice room and interior décor. Lovely food. Service a bit haphazard at times, but staff friendly and willing to sort out issues. Exterior of hotel does not indicate how nice the interior is. Would go back if in the area.

"Short Stay "

Mariaingem, Glasgow, United Kingdom 02/08/2019

Stayed recently. Two rooms for two nights. Twin room excellent size and decor. Double room whilst beautifully decorated would have been fine for single occupancy but it was a bit too tight for a couple. All areas we used were spotlessly clean including the excellent small swimming pool, steam room and jacuzzi. Breakfast excellent as was dinner. The breakfast waitress was excellent but the young evening waitress needed training and a bit more enthusiasm for the job. Reception staff were all very welcoming and informative of the surrounding area. Although on the fringes of the 'lakes' Kendal was a nice base with very easy access to the motorway. Overall well worth a visit.

StonecrossManorHotel, General Manager at Stonecross Manor Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your review and I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. We have various rooms of different sizes so please ask next time you book with us and we will accommodate a request for a larger room. We look forward to welcoming you again.

"Really great staff!"

TraceyOfWeymouth, Weymouth, United Kingdom 29/07/2019

We had a lovely stay at Stonecross. Our room was very comfortable, well decorated, modern and clean. The restaurant and bar area is very nice and again comfortable and well decorated. It's the staff that really make this place, they are absolutely lovely and cannot do enough for you. All of the staff are great but I will give a special mention to Kelis, who looked after us for dinner and breakfast - nothing was too much trouble, we really enjoyed chatting with her too. I felt we got excellent value for money and will not hesitate to return in the future.

Lovely hotel and rooms. Whole place was clean, nicely decorated. Great breakfast. The staff were all friendly and helpful . Great facilities. It was wonderful to be able to go swimming at 6am before breakfast. Being early risers it is usually a shame that pools are not available at this time. Will visit again if we can.

very friendly staff. We just turned up and were told there was only a small double which we said was fine, the room was huge so cant imagine how big the standard is. Nothing was too much effort and everyone was very welcoming

"The room at the end- 107"

Doodlesdoodleso, Frederick, Maryland 19/07/2019

The hotel is quite nice and comfy. It has been updated and is very modern on the outside than on the inside. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant and the waiter was happy to help with allergy substitutions. The food was very good- much better than expected. We had the room over the kitchen- the kitchen fan didn't bother us, but we couldn't open the windows due to the staff smoking at the back of the house until after 9:30pm. The room and bathroom was clean and a little rubber duck greeted us in the bathroom!

"Last minute stop over..."

traceybas, basingstoke 13/07/2019

We decided last minute to stop at the lakes in our way back from Scotland and managed to get two adjoining rooms here. The rooms are very comfortable and nicely decorated. The staff are super friendly. We ate in the restaurant the first night and had a really good meal ( fish sharing platter , lamb followed by coffee and chocolate brownie. )

StonecrossManorHotel, General Manager at Stonecross Manor Hotel, responded to this review
Dear traceybas. Thank you for your lovely review and we are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. The sharing boards are very popular and I will make sure this is passed on to the kitchen team. We hope to welcome you back again in the future.

"Good value hotel"

User 10/07/2019

Pleasant decor with well appointed rooms and very comfortable bed. Menu was good and food well prepared. Be aware that as the hotel is by a busy main road there is some traffic noise, not a problem unless you're used to a very rural location.

StonecrossManorHotel, General Manager at Stonecross Manor Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Angela W. Thank you for your great comments. Most of our guests hardly notice the traffic noise as it tends to quieten down after 8pm. We hope to welcome you back in the near future,

"Midweek break "

User 09/07/2019

We stayed at the Stonecross Manor recently as part of a two night Lake district break. We booked this hotel via Buy a gift as it was nearest to Windermere. We arrived early but our room was ready so we checked on with no problems. We stayed in room 207 which is the farthest room in the hotel, quite a few stairs up and down, there is a small lift which is handy when taking your bags to the room. We noticed our room was adjacent to the outside chimney stack and there was a noticeable humming sound which I had noticed a previous guest had complained about. As we went to reception I mentioned this to the waitress at the bar and she confirmed the extractor is turned off around 9.30pm so it wasn't a problem, whilst she did offer a move to another room we decided to stay put. We did use the spa and steam room which is on the small side but adequate. There isn't much within walking distance of the hotel which is the main reason we probably wouldn't rebook however the hotel is pleasant enough if you are passing through.

StonecrossManorHotel, General Manager at Stonecross Manor Hotel, responded to this review
Dear McrDave. Thank you for your 4 star review and I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. I was a little disappointed that you felt that there wasn't much in walking distance. We are only a twenty minute walk into town which has an array of shops, museums and cafes or a ten minute walk to the river Kent which has a lovely track along towards Kendal or Natland. I am sure reception would have pointed you in the right direction and we can provide maps for those who wish to venture further afield. We would love to see you again if you are passing through and I hope we will do so in the near future. Many thanks again for your kind words!

"A recent Best Western accreditation - still some work to do to meet the standard."

deniselamsdell, London, United Kingdom 29/06/2019

1. Staff thin on the ground on our arrival - person on reception was also serving at the bar. It took a while to be able to check in. 2,Booked through EBookers and breakfast was supposed to be included. It was not and the listing was incorrect. The hotel was prepared to provide buffet breakfast as a good will gesture, but we would not have booked without cooked breakfast option and after a few calls EBookers will refund to us the additional breakfast cost. 3. We arrived on a hot day and the hotel was quite warm. We had room 107 - lovely and large but no fan or aircon ( not that we expected that) but we needed to open the windows and there is noise from the kitchen fans in addition to the road. Also kitchen staff chat outside the kitchen entrance and voices were heard upto 10pm and before 7am. This probably isn't an issue when windows can remain closed. There was also another visitor requesting a cooler room on the morning of the departure. 4. Breakfast on the Friday was fine, but they were seriously understaffed on the Saturday. There were a lot of rooms booked and all the tables were occupied by 7:30am (other guests were still coming down later). We waited half an hour for someone to take our tea/coffee order and it was 40 minutes before the cooked breakfast was eventually brought out to us. We had hoped to get an early start. It seemed they were not prepared for this many visitors - staff were too busy to open the windows or put the music on until well into breakfast service. 5. On leaving there seemed to be some confusion as to whether we had paid the basic booking in advance (we had), it took some time for the receptionist to retrieve the details of what was still to be paid for - we were reluctant to go,not knowing what they were going to charge us for. It's a quaint building, but staffing levels need to be appropriate for rooms booked out and there are some areas for improvement via staff training with regard to internet bookings and chargeable items

"Decent old place but expensive "

MargieM795, Kirwan, Australia 28/06/2019

Nice foyer, building & lovely staff. Probably as you would expect, it's a bit old with a tiny lift so it only accommodates 1 person with luggage. I think all doors are fire doors because they were all so heavy & negotiating with luggage was a trial. Free internet & parking. Decent breakfast. Standard room for a hotel. Good location

"2 night weekend break for birthday treat"

lynywilliams, Wirral, United Kingdom 22/06/2019

Booked with secret escapes. Given a nice double room on 2nd floor, only at night time we discovered we were over kitchen with an extractor chimney right next to our window. We thought this would eventually go off, but at 12.30 it was still buzzing. Rang night porter at 1.00 but could not contact him. Rang again at 2.30, still could not contact him. At 3.45 my partner got dressed and went downstairs and found porter in kitchen. He apologised and switched it off. We only had a few hours sleep. I mentioned this to receptionist in the morning, and she said we could be moved, on same floor but other side of hotel. We went into Kendal just for a few hours and were back by 12.30 as room was ready and we wanted to get some sleep. We were then moved to 1st floor, not room we were promised, which was now over the front door, which constantly banged. Only for being so tired, we would have left right away, but we were not fit enough to drive on a motorway. We managed to get a few hours sleep, and were ready to leave by 8.00. We drove home and went to bed. Would not go back.

"Friendly Welcome"

User 21/06/2019

My husband and I arrived at the Hotel after a full day of meetings to a friendly welcome. The room was very clean and comfortable. We didn't eat at the hotel on the Saturday night, but did glance at the menu which had a good choice and reasonably priced. We did have Sunday lunch, again a good a la carte as well as a set menu. Food was excellent. Will definitely stay again when over in that part of Cumbria.

"Dirty toilet on check in"

User 15/06/2019

Really dirty bathroom, no one on reception to ask to clean it. Had to ask for my money back and get another hotel because I couldn't relax there knowing how dirty it was. Poor service, definitely not worth 120 a night.

"Great Value, great food"

Paul R, Verwood, United Kingdom 03/06/2019

Friendly welcome by all members of staff. Clean comfortable rooms. Food in the restaurant was excellent - good choice, sensibly priced. Lounge areas were comfortable and quiet. Good location to explore the Southern Lakes and neighbouring Yorkshire

"What a lovely Surprise"

Fred S, Derby, United Kingdom 30/05/2019

Travelling frequently as we do on business it was a delightful surprise to stay at the Stonecross Manor Hotel albeit for only one night. Apparently I'm picky according to the better half, but even in full-on picky mode I found nothing to complain about. The service, rooms, facilities and food all definitely hit the mark and in many cases exceeded our expectation. Top marks to Helen the General Manager for arranging our stay.

"Inexperienced staff & no smoke alarm"

Quest57081855410, Manchester, United Kingdom 27/05/2019

Room was fine for a two night stay, except that the smoke alarm was missing and the wires hung down from the ceiling. When we reported it to someone at reception, she wrote our room number on her hand and nothing was done to fix it Also when we checked in, the two staff on the desk acted surprised/disappointed that we had arrived (we'd book via Booking.com and stated our arrival time) and then proceeded to ask us to pay for the room up front because they'd had issues with people not paying. In my experience, you either pay when you book or they take an impression of you card when checking in and you pay when you check out. The full English breakfast was really nice. But they'd run out of smoked salmon on the 2nd day we were there. The tv signal was weak so we couldn't watch 70% of the channels. Bed and pillows were very comfy.

"Recent Stay"

Chrissys01, London, United Kingdom 18/05/2019

We booked 3 rooms at very late notice as we needed to attend a family funeral in Scotland. The hotel staff on reception and in the bar were extremely pleasant and helpful. Our room overlooked the road which from 5am is extremely busy and very noisy especially when there is a need to keep the window open. The walls are very thin as we could hear people in the next room. We asked to move rooms due to the noise and the staff accommodated us in a different area of the hotel where you could still hear the road but not as badly. However in this room neither the TV or the kettle worked and there was a handle missing off the window. The decor was pleasant and had recently been done. The beds were comfortable but both rooms we were in were very hot. We ate in the restaurant and had no complaints with the food. The breakfast included in the price was fine if you chose a cooked one but not so good on the continental side. Bread and pastries were not replenished regularly.

StonecrossManorHotel, General Manager at Stonecross Manor Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you Chrissys01 for your review and I am pleased to hear that reception accommodated your request for a room move to a quieter area of the hotel. Your feedback is very important to us and will only help us improve the service that we offer so thanks for that. We look forward to welcoming you again.
