Resumen de la reserva
Hotel in need of complete refurbishment. All areas very drab & dreary & furniture very old fashioned. Hotel is in good situation & the food in general is good. Car park is to small for the hotel & spa. Lots of corridors with some in need of better lighting.
A hotel with a nostalgic feel. Very comfy bed. Unfortunately we were allocated room 31 which smelt as described by others as a musty basement. The stairs in the room definitely need some sort of warning signage the steps are polished wood surface which is exceptionally slippy. My decision to score three is no reflection of the staff at the property who work hard and are lovely but the sheer fact that the smell in the room was so bad it actually spoilt the stay.
Stayed here recently for two nights. Room 31, which is best described as a damp, musty basement. TV reception was like listening to Norman Collier with a stutter. If your booked into this room, where a zip wire if you plan to visit the toilet during the night or you will be risking your life. Hotel staff were really nice but I wasnt keen on the hotel, its tired, dated and needs a big refurb. Best Western, dig into your pockets and do the place up, otherwise, charge a price according to what your offering.
Hotel was fab it was an old hotel and it was lovely . Staff were so friendly and food was good specially the breakfast. Our room was really big and we had a great stay . I would definitely recommend this hotel and would love to come back and stay again
I have read some strange and alarming reviews of the Bell, which seem to overlook entirely the joy of staying in an 18th century coaching inn, that has retained much of its individualist style and decor. There is even a disused well in the centre (obviously once the yard of the inn) that you can peer down. There is a curiosity in every corner, wonderful photos and prints. However, the rooms are extremely comfortable. Some previous reviewers have complained of street noise... we certainly experienced none, but were not at the front of the building. One small modern refinement we appreciated was the lift. They have an indoor pool as well, which we didn't try.
Extremely dated, tired and worn room, bedding, bed, decor and building. Took one look, turned around and left. Bathroom light wasn't working (quite glad as can't imagine what it was hiding). Stairs internally in the room lead from bathroom on ground floor to bed on first floor.
Lovely ground floor room, very warm and cosy, with ann attached wet room. We had an unbelievable rate at the very traditional coaching inn. The breakfast was stupendous, in a beautiful room served by very obliging staff. Full English, with all the usual cereals and juices.
A lovely hotel with lots of character. Having read previous reviews we were a little sceptical. However we loved are stay. Bedroom clean and comfortable. Breakfast was lovely. Staff friendly and the spa was a wonderful bonus. Nice to have a hotel with quirky character.
Absolutely terrible service at this place. It's like they literally don't want your business.. we're trying desperately to get Amy to call us back about booking a reception, we have been trying now for over a week. No response and never there.
I was very excited to experience the "spa" with my friends. We got there and we're charged to hire gowns, these were poor quality. We were taken into a dark and unclean spa with shockingly outdated facilities! The pool was freezing and small, one of the steps going in was broken. The jacuzzi was a good size but also, cold! We went into a "hydrotherapy pool" which was as cold, and many aspects of this was broken. We had been charged more to use this so was very disappointed! It was unclean and then shower room was also broken in this area. This is not a place I would recommend to anyone. We also had afternoon tea, this on the whe was good! A lovely selection of sandwiches and cakes and very traditional British decor. A shame that noone came to check on us as we would've loved more to drink. Also scones came with squirty cream not clotted which was a shame.
Had to wait at reception to book in as only one member of staff who was over in Spa, Once taken to room it was down in cellar and seemed like trades mans stairs. Room smelt damp and musty, was also very dark (Rm 33) Went to reception to complain , ask to change room had to wait again as no one there. There a old tall man in lounge reading paper who did look up but said nothing, Room got changed after I went looking for staff. ( I subsequently found out that the old man was the owner, Why did he not help me) Breakfast was good. Would say hotel need a complete refurb and update, i would say nothing been done in over 30 years. I would not stay here again
Brilliant hotel with very friendly staff. Cannot fault this hotel. The cost was £300 hundred pound cheaper than the Premier Inn at Bridlington. This includes free access to the spa.
The hotel is over 250 years old and the decor and room furniture reflect this. But it is very clean and tidy and the staff go above and beyond, it is also right in the centre of the town and pubs, restaurants and shops easily accessible.
Stay elsewhere run down poor parking . The room we had very poor pay more . Not much menu choice and not that cheap . Glad I never booked a weeks stay . It really needs an update I'm surprised Best Western have this hotel on their books . Staff friendly enough .
Not very clean, not a very nice room. The disabled bathroom was not as good as it could have been, the landlady said she had advice from the council, but I am afraid these people don't know enough about disability. I know everybody's disability's are not the same, but they should ask a disabled person about that. I come across this problem in a lot of hotels
Me and my partner stayed here on Friday night for one night only the hotel is clean and seems to be well looked after we didn't have a drink or food in the bar/restaurant as we were on a day drinking pub crawl ! The bed comfortably room clean abit dated but didn't bother us the only thing that drove me nuts is the floor boreds even the corridor ones were bad ! But other than that all good
With a complete refurb it would be a brilliant choice: good location, adjacent free car park, quirky and historic. Staff were friendly and helpful, Wi-Fi was reliable and fast, shower was great. Sadly, I can't recommend it in its present condition. Carpets and furnishings are old, worn and tired. Floors creak everywhere, likewise the chairs when you sit on them (and not very comfy). Paint and wallpaper need a refresh. My room was unbearably hot and stuffy when I arrived, and it needed 2 hours with the windows wide open before I could think of sleeping - and the rads weren't even on. I'd love to recommend the place, but at the moment I don't think it comes up to modern expectations.
We came to stay for my partners birthday. As always it was warm, friendly and welcoming. The spa and cocktails we had in there were perfect. The spa staff were lovely and on hand to help with making us feel comfortable. The room was huge with our own little lounge. It is fantastic value for money and has a very nostalgic feel. Breakfast was beautiful, hot and fresh. We will see you all soon.
You'll either love it or hate it! This has been a tough one to review, my husband says 10/10 he loved it but I have reservations - it IS a historical building full of character and charm, the floorboards unfortunately creak something rotten however that's something that can't be helped but i did, at least twice think someone had walked into our room! I was freaked out by the soft furnishings- the chairs in the room and the seating in the bar- they had YEARS worth of grime on them- the seating area in the bar had an odour that put me off eating in there. I suspect the staff are "nose-blind" to the smell and I noticed a lot of air fresheners dotted around but no way would they mask years worth of deep-engrained smells- I feel like a DEEP clean is in order including removing the photos on the walls etc and scrubbing them down. This place is lovely to look at (on the surface), the staff were lovely, the bed was clean and comfortable but it does need hundreds of thousands of pounds investing in it. You can be sympathetic to the age of the hotel without hanging onto furnishings that are also over a hundred years old, you can get new replica chairs etc. I did feel quite dirty when i left (sorry) - but like i say hubby loved it!
First impressions - Car park is very small and little room to manoeuvre, you'll need a map to find reception, the check in process involved a receptionist who didn't know where the room was, simply suggested "wonder around until you find it" once we found the room we discovered it was freezing cold, the heating wouldn't turn on. Went back to reception who sent the "owner" to try and fix the problem, no apology was offered. We came back a few hours later and the key cards weren't working for the bedroom door (only the main door) back to reception again and the strange owner accused us of keeping the key cards too close to our phones and that's why they weren't working, I assured him they were in a separate pocket, but he insisted it was our fault. Once the new keys were issued we managed to get to bed. Needless to say, yes it may look quirky and oldy worldly, but to be honest it's very run down, the staff are not very customer friendly, the rooms need a deep clean, the cobwebs were so bad I think there is a whole society of spiders living in each room. The hotel is very noisy, doors slamming, outside noise from 6am, receptionist didn't even ask how the stay went. If I was you I would avoid this place, look for reviews before booking.
Called in for lunch. The menu was a bit limited, no problem getting a table. Bar staff friendly and helpful. Range of beers and they were able to offer a sample taste before choosing. Lunch was fine no complaints, nothing outstanding but places like that are not common.
Rang up to book a room and right from the off the receptionist was nothing but rude practically shouting down the phone , laughing at me and just being overall rude this has now resulted in my finding else where to stay as any business with that low mannered staff doesn't deserve anyone's money or time so here's a tip for the receptionist get some manners no one likes a rude receptionist
My husband booked this as a surprise and I wasn't disappointed! I love the old worldly look and find it romantic and endearing!! The team here couldn't do enough for you and even though we only here 2 nights we came back on the second day to find our room cleaned and bed re made! If you want modern go to a premier inn! If you want warmth and homely with good food to boot booked Bell! The car park is small due to the age but there is a 24 hour up the road for £2.50 so am happy with that!
The hotel was like a cross between the Adams Family and The Shining. Dark corridors with old worn out furniture. The bedroom smelt like an old lady had been living there for 50 years. It was seriously creepy. You'll need to leave the TV and the lights on at night.
Awful. The smell !! Apparently as it was built in 1732 then it was acceptable. NOT!! The room was tiny. Bedding ponged !! No bar. Breakfast 7.30-9 . Book / online both wrong details. It was creepy. I was very upset and wanted to just go but as we paid £110 for 1 night,we decided to man up !! Got moved to a disabled room in a different annex. Smell wasn't as bad. Breakfast was OK.not the best. Staff were OK ..never ever again .. then we were blocked in car park leaving .. dreadful experience
The bell - excellent value for a spa hotel with all the amenities needed and to relax. Excellent Staff and historic surroundings The food was excellent. Our room was intriguing with a downstairs bathroom and sitting area and, via a spiral staircase, the bedroom. Tea/Coffee making facilities and a good sized TV - for the price and excellent short romantic break
Where do we start ? If Drew Pritchard from Salvage Hunters turned up he wouldn't buy any of the vast amount of random items of furniture crammed in the dated, tired and unclean hotel . Our room had a lounge annex with the worst thick shagpile carpet you could imagine, a breeding ground for god knows what amongst the random items of furniture. We skipped breakfast because we couldn't wait to leave. Even the car park would have flummoxed Reginal Molehusband. Apart from that the staff were friendly, shame they have to work in the place.
A tired old place. Our room with a spiral staircase was awful. Appallingly inconvenient and an awful lingering damp smell. The matress should have been binned years ago. A realistic price for this room shold be c. £35 per night.
Was really looking forward to our stay for 1 night but we were very disappointed. The walk below ground felt like historic dungeons to get to our room. We were then greeted by a very outdated, lobby with a bathroom/toilet then a spiral staircase which took some mastering to get up to our bedroom/dressing area. A TV with 8 channels and no matter how many times I altered the brightness/contrast, it corrected itself to everyone having really orange faces, our view though, wow, it was of my car and the car park. But, it allowed me to be my cars security although I couldn't see it when the early morning delivery of beer kegs came but thankfully the noise woke me so I could still monitor whilst taking in the breathtaking view. Speaking of early wake up, the rooms are made up for the next guests at a ridiculous time of around 07:30, which isn't bad if you forgot to request a wake up call or set the alarm clock but when if you want a sleep in, they stop you having that pleasure by making sure every door is slammed and then slammed again, just for good measure. I wasn't sure what they were doing though as our room had more cobwebs and dust than any other place we have stayed in. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and we both woke up from what little sleep we got walking like question marks as our spines must have managed to gain unimaginable shapes. The staff there are lovely and I didn't wish to burden them with issues of views and room decor as that is down to both management and the hotel franchise. We were both just very upset and disappointed with what could be a fantastic hotel.
You can see the former glory of this place but it really does need updating. There is a dingy look and smell to the whole place. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The carpet in our executive suite must have been 50 years old. The old furniture is very fitting but we had water stains on wallpaper and crumbling plaster behind it. If updated this place would be amazing.
Wonderful staff and fantastic place.. oldy worldy wonderful. 3 girls to a spa day.. salad lunch and a facial.. Staff could not have done more to make us welcome.. the guys was excellent and we had a brilliant time.. my second visit and will be going again very soon.
First the good, the staff were very friendly and professional and the place was clean Now the bad The hotel inspector would throw a fit in here. To say that the place needs updating is an understatement, it's not the old furniture but the yellow wallpaper, the old chairs that need repairing or replacing, the light bulbs upstairs in the corridor to the older part needs replacing, the plumbing looked at because it wakes you up at 5am and even for an old building this is unacceptable. The foyer area just off the bar needs sorting out as it doesn't look welcoming. I was excited about the spa but even that doesn't look welcoming at all. You go through the door and see not a welcoming reception but a locked door and some stairs leading to another locked door. Having checked with reception about the opening times I was surprised to discover it was open but without any signs how was I supposed to know where the spa reception was? I've stayed in plenty of Great Westerns and had wonderful experiences but Head Office has forgotten this one. Give the hotel some money and with some TLC and rethink this would be a hidden gem. Top tip. There's some lovely cafes, bakeries and a Wetherspoons for a reasonable priced breakfast
My family and friends use this hotel whenever we go to Driffield It has always been a lovely experience The hotel is very oldie worldy Staff have always been very good Even though we only go twice a year the staff always recognise us
A nice coffee shop. Bright and clean. Bit pricey, but then this is the Cotswolds where everything is overpriced. But… The Covid hangover of not accepting cash spoils the visit. Looking forward to returning when you can pay with cash.
I had booked an executive double we were shown to a split level room one depressing dark sitting room below ground level with the bathroom and up a spiral staircase to a very basic bedroom. We were then offered a much better twin room, the bar was pretty low. The staff were friendly and helpful the hotel is in dire need of a total refurbishment we came home after one night couldn't have stood another one. Such a pity for the staff.
Hmmm where do i start, this is certainly a very unique hotel, much more of a museum than a hotel :) the fixtures and fittings all seem to be as old as the hotel itself, all the furnishings appear to be from days gone by, probably all originals, not a bad thing but there were so many different things scattered about the place it was hard to define weather or not it was a hotel or actually your great grannies living room. The rooms really could do with a good makeover with maybe some better mattresses and pillows, a lick of paint wouldnt go amiss and i know that the hotel is a very old building, 18th century i believe, but the plumbing left little to be desired, surely something could be done to sort this out to ensure a decent shower could be had. Having said all this the team there were fantastic, couldnt do enough for us, Rachel was fabulous, the food also was some of the best we tasted, not your usual bog standard hotel food where you get chips with everything, the chef tried to make sure the menu gave us a great choice with a different addition every night, really cannot fault the service we recieved, breakfast is cooked to order so everything seemed to be hot and fresh, although the poached eggs did have a little too much vinegar in the water :( The car park really isnt fit for purpose, very small and tight, not helped by the fact that it is shared with the hotels spa / gym which is used by the general public, the large yellow transit van which was a permenant fixture and the bushes around the perimiter could do with a good old trim.
General decor shabby, dusty and uncared for. The room was much the same standard. Bed linen may have been clean but looked old and discoloured. Resturant is closed on Tuesdays but was not told about this when phoned to book table prior to visit. I know this an old building but room floor had a definate slope, the edge of the mattress had colapsed on the down hill side making sleeping quite difficult. Overall a very disapointing visit
Quiet, spacious room. Comfortable bed. Breakfast cooked to order and the bacon was thick cut and tasty. Very good local ale available at the bar. Shame the restaurant was not serving evening meals during my stay. The car park is too small. I used a nearby free car park to avoid damage to my car.
We've been meaning to call in here for a meal for ages, now with Covid-19 behind us (hopefully), we thought we'd give it a go. Called up our old friends who live near by, and off we went. Arrived for a 1900 table and the place was humming, well more if a cacophony actually! Real six o'clock crowd in full cry. Settled in for a menu and quite honestly I could have eaten everything there! Not a huge selection but just good pub grub. We shared a bowl of delicious scampi and then lamb chops and half roast ducks. Well cooked and tender. Home made chips and that's it. No fussy overcooked veg that no one eats, just perfect. My pint of Wye Valley Butty Bach was the best kept pint I have had in years! And my friend loved his Robinson s cider. Thanks Wheelrights.
this hotel is full of charm and character the staff are extremely friendly nothing was too much trouble for them. the room my wife and myself used was more like a suite than a room the food was first class cooked to perfection
The hotel has charm, interest and friendly professional staff. The antique and local memorabilia is a time capsule of social history. The food and service at breakfast and in the bar was extremely good and although we didn't use the spa area in this busy we will definitely be back to stay at this hotel when in this lovely market town.
We stayed 2 nights for my sister in law's wedding, the hotel is beautiful and quaint, the food was delicious, the staff were brilliant so helpful and friendly, will definitely return, friendly atmosphere
This was unfortunately the worst place I've ever stayed in. There is hardly any parking and if you have a large car, there's no way you'll be parking on-site. The hotel and room is so dated it's quite unreal. I had no bin and no coffee of tea making facility. The bathroom was avocado green (says it all). The food was adequate but wouldn't win any awards. The spa was very dated and had mould everywhere. The staff in the spa were incredibly rude to me regaling the ‘super spa'. Apparently the super spa isn't part of the spa. Spend a bit more money and avoid this dated, poor quality hotel.
Recent visit I am in a wheelchair, sometimes this can be a problem but not this place lovely downstairs room with en suite wet room, the room was filled with beautiful antique furniture there was a tv coffee and tea also biscuits, my husband and I stayed there for 2 nights it has been very warm so the staff brought me a fan to cool the room, nothing was too much for the people who worked there they were so lovely, the first morning we had breakfast we had the full English it was very tasty and plenty of it, it is served in the lovely surroundings of the ornate dinning room, would definitely stay there again!
We went for afternoon tea after visiting the spa next door, the food was terrible, mouldy food, stale bread and cakes straight out of a packet, could make it much better at home. There was no one else there and we most likely would've left but it was pre paid, the entrance looks promising but don't let it fool you! This was just for the afternoon tea but I still would not recommend.
Loved our stay here. You get what it says, an old style hotel with charm and history. Excellent spa facilities and great staff. Would definitely recommend. Driffield itself lovely place with friendly peole
A group of us booked to come to the spa for a cocktail/use of spa facilities evening. It was £22pp which was so reasonably priced and we were pleasantly surprised at the facilities use for this cost. Annabelle went above and beyond, she was accommodating, welcoming, and it made it feel like a warm and inviting atmosphere. The woman serving the drinks I didn't catch her name but she was also very friendly and chatty. It really felt like a very inviting and welcoming space. We got use of all the facilities, with a cocktail on arrival and then as I don't drink Annabelle went to the bar to help bring me over some non alcoholic soda. We will definitley return and look for more events like this, great use of the space, good pricing and lovely staff.
Great! Our room was wheelchair friendly with a large wet room. Comfy sleeps over four nights. Breakfast was very good and substantial. Staff were very, very friendly, our only gripe was there were no dinners available, soon to be rectified I was told. We didn't partake of the spa facilities.
as the title says quaint and old fashioned with wood panelling to the bar and restaurant. Breakfast very good. the bedrooms are a bit higgledy pigeddly as you would expect with such an old building. Our room was a good size with an attached longe area where we took our nightcaps. If ever in Driffield again I would stay there for sure.
Wanted a few days away over the half term, were looking at the coast, but this Best Western hotel came up and we have used them in the past. I can't comment on the normal double rooms as we paid a bit extra for a "superior room". We were extremely pleased with the room (or should I say room's). You entered the room, which was a sitting room with a sofa, writing desk and chair, a large chest of drawers and a full length mirror. There were two more small pieces of furniture which turned out to be commodes (don't worry, these were only for decoration). The next room was the actual bedroom, the bed was very high up and solid wood with a canopy and drapes, I found this to be very comfortable. There was more solid wood furniture, a small set of drawers, two bedside cabinets and another cabinet which had the TV on it. The bathroom was the next room with the toilet beyond that. We had tea at coffee making facilities, replenished each day, including biscuits. We did not have food at the hotel in the evening, nor did we use the spa facilities, but we were booked for breakfast. They had a choice of cereal and juices, yogurt and croissant. A long while since we have stayed in a hotel where they actually bring you a pot of tea or coffee rather than having to help yourself. Also, being a small hotel, they make your toast and the food is cooked fresh to order. I thought the full breakfast was extremely good. Our room was facing the road, and there was music in the bar opposite one night until after midnight (possibly just because of bank holiday), but I just closed the double glazing. It is rather old fashioned, the floors do creak ( I think this is mentioned on the hotel website), that's what we liked about it. I managed to park on arrival, no problems but we stayed in Driffield one day and went out by train the other two (station only a few minutes walk from hotel). We also found the staff friendly and helpful. Well done if you have read all of this, I rarely do reviews and never this long, but there seem to be a vast difference in other reviews, almost like they are talking about two completely different hotels, we really loved it.
This hotel is frankly not worth the money they charge. It smells really fusty and i believe the furniture is still there from the 1800s. It looks alot like the pub in American Werewolf in London............Had a spa weekend here that cost almost £500, which in reality wasn't worth £150. The staff were lovely until I complained and wanted my money back and then it all got really ugly. I first spoke to the spa manager who agreed with what I was saying and agreed to refund me the cost of the spa. She said she needed to speak to Amy in finance, after which I was then only offered £100 refund. Apparently the spa manager had told Amy that I'd shouted at her and "had a real go". Not true at all.........Genuinely do not waste your money here. If you're looking for a hotel, there's a really lovely one up the road called Hotel 41 or something similar. We ate there and the place was lovely. Regarding the spa, there are much nicer ones that are worth the money they charge and offer a much more pleasurable experience.
Lovely staff and very professional. The food was great and the beds comfy.Room was clean and everything was in there from the towels to the tea and coffee. The Hotel is in the centre of town close to all the amenities so very convenient for us.There was one tiny minus and that was the car park was very small so you have to be very careful parking.
My wife and I were supposed to have a night here as part of a special offer with the on-site spa. We needed a break and were looking forward to some relaxation. As the hotel is a Best Western, we were expecting a good standard. However, we were bitterly disappointed and ended up leaving not long after checking in. The first issue was the car parking. There was little/no signage, so I had to park a short distance away and go into the hotel to ask where it is (it's round the back and accessible down a side road). Considering the number of rooms and that you don't have to be a guest to use the spa, the car park is simply not substantial enough. However, given the footprint of the building and proximity of the road, there's not a lot that can be done. What would help is if the owner's large (and unsightly) old van wasn't parked in a prominent place, affecting the ability to manoeuvre. Other reviewers have complained about this before and nothing has been done. Before checking in, we used the spa. From the outside it doesn't look that big, but it's quite substantial on the inside. At this point I have to say we have no problems with the spa side of things. The staff were absolutely brilliant, the treatments were worth it and the food was good too. All in all it was very relaxing. The pool is a decent size and the super spa part is amazing (a private area you can use for 45 minutes which has a heated pool and do much more). After that it was time to check in. Due to the nature of our offer, we ended up paying the remaining amount first. We didn't see a problem with this, but then we saw the room. In hindsight it would have been better for them to charge the remaining amount when you exit. When I got to the reception, there was nobody there. It took two bell rings and a few minutes wait before anyone arrived. When someone did get there, they were friendly and chatty enough. They explained everything clearly and provided us with the key cards. After that it was just a case of getting our things and getting into the room. Then we saw the room. Oh dear. Now, I realise this is a listed building and there's certain restrictions, but the decor is in dire need of an update, the furniture isn't great and the housekeeping team can't have been there in days - if not longer. There were cobwebs all over, mould and rust in the bathroom, chipped class on a table, dirt on the walls, a heated towel rail coming away from the ceiling and the blackout blind (behind the curtain) was full of holes. More seriously than all that was how they clearly didn't listen when I described my wife's needs before coming here. She is disabled, with a number of medical conditions which means she's vulnerable and has mobility problems. I clearly mentioned the mobility issue when calling them. I was promised our new room (now on the ground floor) would have a walk in shower). That was not the case at all. What if my wife had been here on her own? She would struggle to use what was there. Then there's the fire exit problem. The sticker on the wall pointed to the window. Ok, windows are common fire exits. However, on the outside there were things in front of the window, despite a message there clearly telling you to keep it clear. There's also a notice inside the room saying that the exit is not suitable for disabled people! So, we were given a wholly unsuitable and dirty room with a clear health and safety violation. My wife suffers from things like depression and anxiety and this experience affected her greatly. It was hugely disappointing and it ruined what we'd already enjoyed. We were left with no other option but to go home very early and not stay the night. Before going though (which took a while because of the car park), I went to the reception to demand a refund. The person there was one of the owners. Despite clearly explaining what was wrong and why we deserved a refund, he seemed very confused and constantly asked for a reason. He asked me to take a seat whilst he went for someone. This took ages and I wondered if he was coming back. At the last minute, I was greeted by a very polite and professional lady who was his wife and joint owner. She instantly understood why I wanted to go and although she didn't have the system access to do a refund, I was promised a call the next day and there'd be s refund to my debit card. She couldn't tell me how much the refund would be, but it was progress. I got a call earlier today and a refund of £60. Now, this is less than a night at the hotel on it's own and much less than 50%. However, it was the only offer so I took it. Given the nature of the special offer, I could (sort of) understand the amount. Anyway, if you're just going to the spa, you'll be fine. If you're thinking of staying in the hotel, I would definitely avoid it. There are so many problems and done that are quite serious. It's really not acceptable - particularly for the disabled or those with mobility issues. In all honesty, I am surprised that a big chain like Best Western let the hotel get into this condition.
A very friendly hotel. Lovely room and bathroom - very clean and all expected facilities. Good bar meal in the evening and excellent breakfast the following morning. The car park fills when the spa is open but there is a free public car park within short walking distance. I moved my car to the hotel car park after dinner.
Have just had lunch with my son and friend. We had a nice meal of jacket potatoes and prawns, my son had chips, chicken nuggets and beans. The staff on shift were lovely, they ordered my sons meal even though it wasn't on the menu. BUT!!!!! Upon leaving the hotel I noticed a large, old, dirty yellow van parked behind my car. This was in the hotel car park. I quickly asked a member of staff if they knew who's it was so I could ask them to move it so we could leave. She said it was the owners, then with wide eyed she said ‘I'll ask if he will move it!' An old, tall man came out, who looked a little like Lurch. And said in an annoyed tone ‘ I don't see how you can't reverse out!?' To which I replied ‘ Oh you want me to reverse all the way out, backing onto a main road with a blind corner with my son in the back of the car!?' Fine!!! So I tried. But the knackered old van was still in the way!!! He then began to shout, in a hugely condescending way, ‘ Just wait! Just wait!' Over and over again. I asked him not to talk to me that way and I heard him, he didn't need to continuously repeat himself. He obviously has completely delusions of grandeur, because hes the owner!!! And the look his staff gave me, he said ‘ Get out yourself!' And Lurches off back into the hotel. I then had to do an Austin Powers type of 100 point turn to back onto a main road. Safe to say that I, my friends and family will never return to the Bell. The OWNER could do with going on a customer service course!
You'd think with a Best Western branded hotel you would get consistent good service, wrong with this place. Requested early checkin got no feedback and showed up 10 to 2 to be told I couldn't check in until 2pm. I stood and waited and was presented with my key at 2pm. I found out I was the only guest in the hotel so the ‘room may not be ready' was rubbish. I went the long winding corridors and stairs to my room to find the mag key didn't work. Back to reception and handed another key ‘that should work'. It didn't and 5 minutes round trip late the manager appeared and disappeared with yet another key only to return to agree with me that the door lock was faulty. No apology. Room was cold and eventually I found the radiator thermostats and got some warmth. Front hotel door was locked when I got back from a meal out at 8:30, I had to go to the back of the car park to get in. The internet stopped on day 2 and after I reported it was informed by the manageress that it would be rebooted and was now fixed. It wasn't and I left to find good internet to have my business meeting. The heating is only on in the evenings and morning and off daytime. I ended up with a coat on working in my room. The young staff members did the best but the rest was horrible service. I stopped raising issues as the look I got from the manager was accusatory and I felt it was all my fault. Location is great though!
Every year our extended family book a large table for Christmas Dinner and up until this year have had pretty good experiences. Sadly this year we feel that we were ripped off as we were charged 15 pounds for a children's meal which consisted of a starter (one very poor yorkshire pudding with gravy) a main (fine but small portion) and a desert (one scoop of vanilla ice cream). An adults meal cost either 18 pounds for 3 courses, 16 for two or 12 for one so I was expecting the kids meal to have cost no more than 8.50 tops. The meals were ok to be fair, but the aforementioned yorkies were poor, as was the single paxo stuffing ball and the tiny pig in blanket. The beef was lovely as were the roasties. The place itself it's oldie worldy which is fine, but the toilets stank. It feels like it could do with some money spending on it but i guess that this is difficult in Covid times. Sadly, we won't be returning next year as although I enjoy our annual meet up I'm not prepared to be ripped off. Greed doesn't pay and it has now lost the hotel a big booking next Christmas. It's a shame.
We stayed for the night at the Bell last week. We have wined dined and danced there many times but never slept there, Well....the room ..old fashioned furniture..although clean.....curtains so heavy they could hardly be moved....especially the ones behind the tv......the tv.....great large and modern. The bedhead reminded me of something from an old black and white german war film. The bathroom was fine. The room was warm and the bed itself was large and comfortable. Breakfast was not good....as stated before most of it seemed to have been made earlier and warmed up. Breakfast service being 7 to 9.30...we went down at 9. Tea was cold and the coffee resembled mollases. Having said all that enjoyed my stay because of the old wordly appeal of the whole place.
After reading some reviews was a bit wary. However we had a very enjoyable stay. Room was spacious and clean. Lots of quirky furniture. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast was lovely plenty of choice. The whole place was very interesting with lots of antiques around. Room service was available if and when you needed it. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Can't see what people have been moaning about. Didn't use any of the facilities but that was personal choice. Would recommend don't be put off by some reviews. It is not ultra modern but that is what makes it so nice, it's different not just white everywhere.
Worst hotel I've stayed in. Needs a lot of work to make it worthy of the price tag. The bedding smelled and was discoloured, the pillows were worn out. The noise from creeking floors, banging doors, noisy equipment added to the appeal!
A very quirky old hotel with lovely rooms, a very good bar and restaurant. The staff are brilliant, very helpful and friendly. A great place to explore the surrounding areas from. On site car parking is a bit challenging at times.
Fabulous hotel full of history… Hotel reflects buildings history so don't expect ultra modern… Step back in time decor… A living museum, fascinating.,. Service provided was excellent in both hotel and Spa.. Staff went that extra mile to ensure all needs of our party was met… Very friendly… Would we stay again….YES!!!
I was looking forward to my spa day today at the Driffield Spa, which is part of The Bell Hotel, Best Western Driffield, but I was very disappointed because the place needs a good clean, and I won't be going back. Everywhere you look, in the changing rooms, showers, toilet, in the steam room, around the pool on the flooring, pretty much all around, it was in need of a good clean at the least. To be honest I was glsf to leave. Although, staff are friendly.
We are new to the area and looking for a good Sunday lunch. Two of our party arrived a few minutes before the other two people. Those arriving first said they were waiting for someone to join them. The other two new arrivals said they were there to join someone but the staff member was offhand and did not connect the dots. The hotel is dated to say the least. Faded grandeur. The system for the lunch was not clear. What does small, medium and large equate to when it comes to Sunday lunch? You had to decide before seeing the actual carvery area. The carvery area was too small in my view and the options limited We had to wait a fair while as it was unstaffed. Signage was poor and lots of confused looking guests were wandering about which made us feel uncomfortable as we were eating. The food was lovely although this did not make up for the atmosphere. The Yorkshire puddnigs were odd and not like anything I have seen before.
Booked an overnight stay on the 9th October based on free on site parking, WiFi available in the room and affordability. Couldn't get parked in car park upon arrival, brought this up with the hotel only to be told to use alternative parking 0.3 miles away, admittadly not a great distance but still not ideal given my partner suffers with arthritis in her knees. Because we couldn't get parked the car then had to reversed out on to a main road, again not ideal. I asked the manager to cancel my reservation only to be told I would be charged Our overnight stay was a nightmare for the following reasons Insufficient parking WiFi didn't work in the room Bed very uncomfortable Partner kept awake by noise from local bar Shower had no hot water I've sent several emails asking to be refunded and all have been responded to with basically an apology the stay wasn't great but they are unwilling to refund any money at all. The hotel in my opinion is dated, not as advertised and over priced, needless to say I won't be staying there again and wouldn't recommend the hotel.
The hotel is in the centre of Driffield, the room was good. Parking is a bit tight the parking area is too small. We arrived Friday 6pm the carpark was almost full but we managed to get in, at 7pm it had emptied. The next night Saturday we came back to the hotel at 6 pm, The parking area was again almost full but this time it stayed full all night.
I found the rooms were extremely dated apart from the bathroom and didn't even provide basic hotel facilities such as a kettle with tea and coffee facilities. Room also smelt a little bit fusty would not recommend to stay in my opinion
The hotel is old fashioned and that what makes this place different. Its clean , has lovely staff and its soo central. The restaurant food is amazing. I have 2 meals and the best burger l ever have. They have nice deal of free scones in the morning with any hot drink which is always a nice thing. The Spa is really good , good size pool , sauna , steam room and jacuzzi. I would recommend to stay here and l might again as coming here to visit.
Stayed here for two nights and when we went for the first breakfast we ordered the full thing but lived to regret that. The bacon was (in our view) so salty that it could not be eaten - the yolks of the fried eggs were as hard as nails- the black pudding had obviously been sitting under a heat lamp that made it brick hard and the fried tomato was lukewarm and not cooked. ( the single mushroom was nice). It was all returned and then the charming waitress( and I mean that) returned to say that the chef could only cook what he was given. Needless to say, we did not have any breakfast other than a croissant. The next morning we decided against the cooked breakfast and I asked for a croissant with some cold meat but was told by the chef via the waitress that there was no cold meat of any description.- a very poor kitchen that does not have cold meat in its fridge. My wife asked for an omelet but again this was declined by the chef who said he only cooked what was on the menu. The staff , in front of the house, were very nice about the whole thing but obviously, the chef ( cook) rules the roost. The hotel itself is as has been said very dated but in some ways, this adds to its charm. We did use the pool ( which was very cold) and would suggest that the changing rooms need a deep clean as the base of the shower curtains were all filthy and the whole area not very nice and in need of some TLC Do not think I will be back or could recommend it to anyone unless the cook is gone or at least changes attitude. I am sure this hotel could be great if only some effort was put into it and teach the cook that the customer is right and that he/she needs to be more flexible especially to folks who have had a bad experience with the cooking before.
Very good, apart from as I said before, a bit run down. When I booked I asked for a disabled room, the first night we were in an ordinary room, which was upstairs, although there was a lift, the room wasn't suitable for a disabled person. My husband as only one leg, so a shower over the bath is no good to him, but we were given a disabled room the next day.
very clean, all staff happy, smiling and helpful very good food, easy parking plenty of nearby eateries for evenings, easy acsess to main roads for sight seeing trips, staff very helpful when asked question about area
Took my Mum to the Bell Hotel for Sunday Dinner in the restaurant. I can't praise the friendly staff for making it extra special. Fully recommend. Excellent food cooked to perfection. Thank you to George and Rita and the staff.
Hubby & I have just spent a lovely couple of days staying in this hotel. We actually held our wedding reception here 40 years ago so it was a trip down memory lane. The hotel surprised us with a bottle of bubbly to celebrate, thank you!! The food & room were great,we will be back!
If your wanting a corporate look please dont book here, however if your after somewhere different which oozes character, charm and takes you back to a an olde worlde hotel then book book book. Food amazing, spa attached fabulous, decor spot on. Staff helpful and a homely down to earth feel.
We have family in Driffield and as this is the only hotel in the town we are not exactly spoilt for choice. It's not the quirky chintz of the rooms that are off-putting, personally I find the faded tatty wallpaper and dusty tassels on the lampshade remind me of my childhood in the 70s, nor is it the dirty communal areas or that peculiar smell of old hotels - that is part of the unique charm of The Bell. Nor is it the piece of carpet tacked to the top of the door frame onto the "en suite" - I use the term with some leeway as it's actually a damp windowless room with a tired 70s wash hand basin, a narrow bath and a wobbly toilet seat - that we have come to accept. No - what really merits the poor rating of this, our third visit to The Bell, is the car parking facilities. The car park is small, very small and when we checked in at 6:00pm it was full. So full that I had no room to turn around and had to reverse out into the main road. I had no option but to park in the town centre. I tried again at 10:00pm hoping that some of the cars would have gone - but no! Still no where to park. In the end we were forced to park outside our relatives home and walk twenty minutes back to the hotel. As I write this I am lying on the bed listening to the riff raff of Driffield run around outside the front of our room and thinking how lucky we are to have somewhere safe to leave the car. I'm also thinking about how long the drawing pins have been holding up this canopy over the bed in this "executive" room. I would recommend The Bell to those of an adventurous spirit, keen walkers or people who want the full Fawlty Towers experience.
A lovely retreat that just oozes relaxation. They have very nice comfortable large rooms with additional rooms. The staff are very accommodating and friendly and very helpful. The owners are truly beautiful people with so much hospitality. The food was absolutely amazing. The beauty of this place is the antiques scattered around the building and lack of modernisation. We will be back to see this hard working girls and men again.
Despite the Covid procedures we were made to feel welcome and the staff were both helpful and friendly. The room was spacious but situated at the front of the hotel adjacent to the main road and a small town square that was a bit noisy at times. Food was excellent and the bar was welcoming and comfortable. We also used the Spa and the staff in there were again friendly and helpful.
First time in Driffield and my friend brings me here... what a treat ... I can't wait to go back Wonderful wood panelling, red velvet bench seats (my favourite) and beautiful warm home made scones and pots of tea served by amazingly lovely kind ladies :)
We booked two nights. We were visiting family who live nearby. Taking the route from the car park at the back of the hotel through to reception we wondered whether we'd accidentally wandered into an antiquarian shop. There was a traditional red telephone box, old baskets hanging from the ceiling, your grandma's lounge suite, and at least two former Singer treadle sewing machine tables. For added authenticity there's an old well (safely glassed over). Despite having booked online the person at reception couldn't identify our booking and had to make a phone call to sort it out. We were invited to have [complimentary] drinks in the bar whilst waiting for this to be resolved, which it was. The bar is very old-fashioned from the wooden panelling to the early post-war carpet pattern. Depending on one's perspective it could be described as ‘character', ‘mid-20th Century themed', ‘in serious need of updating' or just ‘old'. ‘Character' or ‘mid-20th Century' would also describe most of the clients in the bar. There was no risk of juvenile bad behaviour or late-night revelling to disturb one's sleep. Essentially the hotel's decor is very old-fashioned, from the furniture to the wallpaper. But we saw no crumbling wood or peeling paper. At any moment we expected to see a police box materialise from which an arm might beckon, ready to return us to the 21st Century. We had room 11. It was clean and the bedding was fresh. Despite it being a cold October night outside the management appeared to be keeping their carbon footprint minimal by not consuming any energy in pursuit of keeping guests warm. The radiators' thermostats were all turned to minimum temperature but turning them up yielded no hint of heat. Through a small door and down half a dozen steps there was a private lounge, complete with green shag pile carpet, net curtains with embroidered decoration, maroon curtains and pelmets and furniture that your grandmother would probably have discarded as old-fashioned. Everything was clean but it smelt like a museum store room, of old wood with a hint of mortality. Back up in the bedroom fortunately the bed was comfortable and the duvet effective in keeping the cold at bay. We slept. In the morning our optimism that the management might risk energy expenditure was dashed as the radiators failed to live up to their names: they stubbornly refused to radiate anything. At 7:30am a call to reception to request defrosting of the room resulted half an hour later in heat at last. A polite telephone enquiry from reception soon after the radiators had begun to live up to their names was welcome. A plumber had been needed. It made us wonder how long it had been since the heating system had last been coaxed into life. Somewhat heartened we shelved our plan to find a different hotel for the second night. The en suite bathroom was clean and the plumbing worked. The hot water was. The shower did. In common with the remainder of the hotel it was an interesting excursion into the past, this time into the history of, let's say 1970s sanitary ware. To be fair the shower was probably not yet out of it's teenage years though the flow was rather short of the exuberance of youth. We hadn't booked breakfast as Driffield is well supplied with eating places. We ate up the road in an acceptable café. In the hotel many people were having breakfast with no signs of gastric upset (or hypothermia) which we took to be a good sign. Returning to The Bell from an evening meal with family was like returning to an aged aunt, comforting but with no expectation of luxury or modernity. Saharan air hit us as we entered the room! We and the hotel were warming to each other. After quickly adjusting the thermostats we settled and had a comfortable night. Would we stay at The Bell again? Yes. Don't expect a modern hotel. Do expect a glimpse into the past.
Hotel is over 200 yrs old in building. rooms .we had room 11 nice bed area opened a small door down 5 small steps in to a comfy sitting room wasn't expecting that . Plenty of hot water clean to a good standard remembering it old and not just built staff were helpful . You no there is a virus and with that still make it comfy .. breakfast finning at 09.30 and pool and spa don't open till 8 is a bit rushed but would definitely use again
My husband and I booked this hotel as an overnight stay on the way back from Bridlington we booked an executive room expecting something a little special we where so disappointed when we looked at what was Offered it was dusty dirty and smelled like it had not been opened up and aired since the beginning of lockdown Now I know hotels are having a bad time at the moment but there is no excuse for for dust dirt and cobwebs of which there where plenty the bed was was nearly 4ft high being only 5ft tall myself made it an impossible event to get into.not that I would want to get into that bed because with so many cobwebs and a canopy's over the bed I have one guess were the spiders were . We refused to take the room we was offered one more room with to my horror a four poster bed complete with spiders we refused both rooms.we paid £104 for room only which is not exactly the cheapest room. The wallpaper was peeling off the ceiling in places and the air smelled really bad we went back to reception and told them we didn't want to stay. We had a word with the receptionist and she said we would not be charged for the room. Well three days went by then I noticed that the hotel had charged me £104 for a room we didn't stay in.
First of all there isn't much parking especially if you don't have a small car. What spaces there are were reduced by those taken up with a skip and van (which is actually visible on google maps so must be permanent!) and also the disabled spaces all taken up with table and chairs for outdoor dining etc. Presumably for Covid but what about designating others spaces for disabled use?!!! All the spaces are very tight and we waited about 40 minutes for a lady who was going to actually get her car out of a space (someone else had to move to let her out) only to find we couldn't fit our car into the space. Receptionist said there would be spaces later when staff went and suggested we use the local public car park about 10 minutes away. The hotel is quite nice with some quirky old furniture. Room was clean and comfortable although a bit old fashioned. I wouldn't rule out staying here again but not rushing back soon.
A great hotel which reminds you of a trip back to the 50 and 60's. The room was clean and comfortable, the services were great and the staff were very friendly and helpful. One of the best breakfasts I've had.
Stayed here for one night only as a stop over to meet friends. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms have what you require tea, coffee etc hairdryer. Should you forget anything the reception have supplied for you complimentary which is very kind. Breakfast was delicious and plenty to choose from cooked nice and fresh. The place has history around it with an old well in place, creeping floorboards but that goes with territory. The information file in the rooms are very informative. There was a couple of singers on on the Saturday night which were entertaining. The car parking can be a concern it's very tight and you can easily get blocked in. Unfortunately we didn't get chance to try out the Spa too busy exploring the town, you cannot go wrong for pubs! I certainly would recommend and stay again.
Lovely Sunday Lunch today at the Bell Hotel, everything tasty and freshly cooked. Lovely to see so many eating in the restaurant. Friendly and efficient staff not forgetting the welcome you receive from Rita and George.
Stayed one night on business, the hotel is clean and well kept, the staff were all welcoming and helpful. There is a car park but it is very small and very difficult to manoeuvre in, the nearest free park is about 5 mins walk. The room was pleasant enough but did smell as though the last occupants were smokers, especially the bathroom. The bed wasn't too bad, a little lumpy but I had a decent nights sleep and there was no traffic noise where I was. The food in the bar was ok, I had fish and chips, the chips were a bit soggy, the fish had been dunked in the fryer and the mushy peas nuked in the microwave, but I've had much worse. The breakfast was however very good, nice bacon, tasty sausage and black pudding. There was also toast and plenty of coffee. The most positive thing to say is that all of the staff were very friendly and helpful especially the chap who helped me manoeuvre out of the car park. It was proving very difficult even with parking sensors and a reversing camera. I've stayed in worse places and a lot better ones but overall it wasn't bad value for money especially as I wasn't paying!
Not only was this a lovely place to stay it had a lot of history and some interesting historical objects. The staff were all super friendly and helpful. The bar had a lovely atmosphere in the evening and the breakfast the next morning was freshly cooked and fantastic. When we went swimming and to use the other facilities nearby the pool man was helpful and friendly also. We didn't meet one member of staff who wasn't ready to go out of their way to help us.
Two more great nights at The Bell. All staff friendly. Do try the Bell breakfast, a grand start to your day. If you have room after your breakfast, do try the the scones from 9:30. A sunken bath, never tried one of those before
Me and my partner stayed in room 17 on New Year's Eve. We went to the Fire Festival in Flamborough, and instead of booking a hotel there we decided to book this hotel, because it has a Spa and we were excited about spending new year's day using it. It was such a disappointment to find out the Spa was shut when we arrived. When I called the hotel to book the evening before, I was told to call back in the morning as the receptionist wasn't there and they couldn't answer my questions or take my booking (it was only 8pm). So, as I didn't want to risk losing the room I booked through the Best Western website and then emailed the hotel asking about the Spa and other things. I didn't get a reply until 15:45 the following day which said that the Spa was shutting at 16:00 on my arrival date (Thank you for the 15 min notice!) and on this email they didn't mention the Spa was shut on New Year's Eve so I still had hope we could use it that day. When we arrived we asked about the Spa opening times to the barman that checked us in but he wasn't sure so he asked a lady and she said "no the spa is completely shut tomorrow". We thought there was no point of staying there anymore as we live only half an hour away and the only reason we chose this hotel was for the Spa, but it was passed the free cancellation time so we decided to stay. I feel like the staff had enough opportunities to communicate that the Spa was going to be shut, both times when I called and emailed them, but no one told us. There was also no mention about it on the Spa's website, on their opening times on Google or on the Best Western website. On check-out I mentioned that the bedroom's phone and the towel rail weren't working and the man on reception didn't seem to care much, as he just gave me an awkward silence. Also this must be the 1st hotel when I haven't been asked how my stay was on departure, all I got told was "that will be £135.00". Very unfair paying full price when the only facility I decided to go there for was shut. My partner barely slept as it was noisy outside, but this is to be expected on New Year's Eve. The room was clean overall apart from the shelves inside the wardrobe that were very dusty. The Reception was simply not there most of the time. The breakfast was very good and the barman that checked us in was nice. The deco of the room wasn't really for me but I guess this is just the hotel's style. I liked the appearance of the breakfast room and the bar very much though.
What a disappointment. Didn't want to ruin my friends birthday but the Bell Hotel certainly falls in the bottom category on all accounts due to the lack of food and hospitality received from staff. When I found out how much was paid for the pitiful buffet I can only say what a disgrace. Certainly a lack of customer service and the catering manager/chef needs sacking as they obviously cannot count, offering a buffet with one plate of chips for over 75 guests and not putting out the desserts (that was supplied by the birthday host) - I cannot be bothered to describe what food was supplied by Bell Hotel, words fail me. To find out that the birthday host also brought their own food in just makes the situation diabolical. The manager is obviously not happy in her job or has chosen the wrong career path as her customer service and hospitality was zero. Unwelcoming and unfriendly.
Used the spa before but never stayed over so this was a special treat. The hotel is gorgeous, its like stepping back in time. We had the suite, which was enormous, entrance lobby into the very large bedroom and separate bathroom. Large clean and tidy bar and lounge area. We had the full English breakfast which was delicious, fresh and plentiful. All the staff we met along the stay were friendly, nothing too much trouble. Overall very enjoyable.
Came here for lunch as part of a group. Staff were very attentive, but not overly. Food was wonderful. The venue had a certain old world charm and the Christmas settings of the table were a very pleasant surprise
My friend and I visited the Bell Hotel in Driffield today (10th November) for Sunday lunch. We love this place, especially around Christmas time as it is quirky and old fashioned in the best possible way. I have to admit I was a bit apprehensive as I read a few negative comments for the carvery on this site, but as we've visited several times over the years and always enjoyed lovely food we went anyway. I needn't have worried. The food was excellent as always. Beautiful meats with a huge selection of fresh vegetables and friendly efficient service. BTW, the pigs in blankets here are gorgeous! Roast potatoes are to die for. With 3 sizes of carvery to choose from, what more could you ask for? I wholeheartedly recommend the Bell Hotel food, and we'll be back again soon!
I stayed here for a night in October with my Boyfriend as it was my Birthday. We had Afternoon Tea booked on arrival which was really lovely & was followed by some time in the Spa. I had a back, neck & shoulder massage which was lovely. The only thing I would say though is that the girl who did it wanted me to sit & straddle a chair while she did the massage which I found difficult to get comfy & relax at first, I was 20 weeks pregnant at the time but still feel id of been more comfortable laying down. None the less I did enjoy it. Our room was lovely & clean & a good size. We really liked the decor of the Hotel & that each room was so different from another. Breakfast was lovely & I was really impressed with the variety! Experience with all staff, hotel & spa was positive & they were all very friendly & polite. We would definitely plan to stay again in the future.
Sorry to say went to the Bell hotel yesterday for sunday lunch it was not very nice at all. hoping its a one off, but there was beef, pork, turkey and lamb on offer. i had pork & lamb and my hubby had beef and turkey and all four were tough as old boots. wether it was a different chef i dont know but we were very disappointed.
Every few months we like to try and get away we dropped a pin and picked Driffield we booked the best western we have stayed in a few before so knew what to expect and it didn't disappoint old building lots of character in the heart of the village it's also got a spa but we didn't use it and free parking which is always a bonus the room was lovely 4 poster bed and clean bathroom, we headed out for the evening when we got back in the room was really warm which was nice at first but then a bit too warm I opened the window but as the hotel was on the main road there was road noise but it was fine, around 2.30 there was a lot of noise from people leaving pubs so had to close the window as the building is old there is a lot of noise from other rooms, the breakfast was lovely and service was quick I would return and maybe try the spa
Booked a one night spa break as a treat for my friend and I on a Saturday evening. We arrived at the spa first and advised that we were staying overnight. They seemed to be expecting us (I'd called a couple of weeks beforehand to book the rasul mud chamber & physioacoustic chair) & a friendly young woman showed us the spa area. The spa itself is underneath the hotel & car park in a kind of cave-like setting. No natural light and as it is very old and dark, it often feels a little claustrophobic. The maze-like layout also takes some getting used to. We were shown the rasul area first for our treatment. This is an area shared with the super spa which looks lovely, but we didn't use this. The rasul itself was great and plentiful amounts of clay for getting face and body were provided which is refereshing (previous mud chamber experiences have resulted in me having to summon someone for more mud as the amount provided wouldn't have covered a cat, let alone a size 14 woman). The physioacoustic chair was.... weird! We were expecting music, but it appears the actual vibrations are musical instead. The 30 min session comprised of a semi reclined rest in a small, candlelit room covered with a blanket whilst the chair runs through a program of strong vibrations. We did choose the strongest setting to get the best benefits, but the whole thing was rather intense & different! Not sure what the results are just yet but it was only yesterday so let's see! Afterwards we used the very small pool, sauna, steam room & jacuzzi for a while before checking into the hotel. As mentioned before, the spa and hotel are old. Expect lots of dark wood finishes, the kind of brown tiles you saw in school changing rooms in the 70's, tired decor & a bit of rust and limescale. This is reflected throughout the hotel too, but that said everything is very clean. Check in at the hotel at around 3pm was pleasant and as we'd left our bags with reception earlier that morning before we used the spa, the lady on reception had kindly placed them in our room for us and provided the ice bucket for our Cava as requested. A lovely touch! We quickly checked into our room (16 - a twin) before afternoon tea. The room was average in size and furnished with beautiful old furniture, the only modern item being the large TV. Again, the decor is not to everyone's taste - beige rather than white bed linen, chintzy wallpaper, those awful brown tiles again in the bathroom, an old lamp that your granny would like, crochet doilies... We laughed and appreciated it for what it was - clean and comfortable, nice and quiet. One thing I will mention though - the fire escape to the car park, located in the bathroom and right beside the showering area. The shower was somehow installed in this area rather than over the bath. This made for a rather wet floor upon entry to the bathroom. The afternoon tea was very generous and for £12.50pp a bargain! Extra tea was provided on request by the friendly lady Manning the area. Checkout at 11am was more than reasonable and parking was free. We were very lucky to secure a place in the hotel car park which is tiny and located at the rear of the hotel frontage. Overall a nice stay. Staff are super friendly and helpful and it's a rather unusual, quirky hotel and spa. If you can see past the requirement for a bit of an update you're in for a treat. The only downside is that my membership was not acknowledged nor our special request for a room upgrade/best available as we were both celebrating our 40th birthdays. Not a big issue, but we'd at least hoped for a little card in the room or even a simple 'happy birthday' from the staff checking us in. Would certainly stay again for the right price.
We arrived on a Monday evening around 6:45pm after walking from the station in pouring rain to find the reception and bar deserted. Eventually we discovered a waitress in the restaurant, who very helpfully checked us in - we had reservations. Thankfully the rooms were well heated, with traditional large radiators. The decorations and furnishings ar eclectic (one room contained a linen press), but everything was perfectly clean and the beds beautifully comfortable. Showers are over the bath and work fine apart from the water pressure being a bit low. As the main part of the hotel is over 450 years old, the floors can creak a bit. Breakfast is only served until 9:30am - they rise early in the country. However, the service was lovely and the food great, with some interesting local choices. This hotel is definitely worth sampling as an alternative the bland offerings of the major chains.
If you want sterile cookie cut accommodations don't stay here. This place is interesting and takes you back a few decades. My 2 night stay with breakfast was fine, all the staff were excellent friendly and helpful, had time for social chit chat. Parking can be a problem as i watched a few nervous driver negotiate the parking lot. Only complaint was the bed not the comfort but the height from the floor (old age). Try the place and i am sure you will enjoy. No IKEA stuff here
Hotel position was very good , right on the main street for exploring Driffield. The staff were friendly. i can't appraise the food as I booked room only for 2 nights. The Spa pool was small, but the sauna and steam rooms were good. it's a very good place to go for a spa day, with some rooms set out in relaxing themes. The room i had was ok, although the walls are on the thin side and there was no view to speak of (overlooking skylights of the lounge), but it was unusual as it had a sunken bath. There was a bit of a trek to the spa which is at the other end of the hotel. i've not awarded 4/5 stars as it was the car park which let it down. It had markings for maybe 15 vehicles, but it was so small and very awkward to manouver in it, that I ended up parking down a side street just so as i could get out.
This quirky hotel feels like going home to us. The staff are always so helpful and friendly. The gym and pool are good facilities. The food is tasty especially the lunchtime carverys and the lovely fresh scones provided each morning. This is a good place to stay to visit the Yorkshire Wolds.
This hotel trades on the age of its building and no two rooms are laid out the same - my room had its own separate sitting room! The overall style is deliberately old-fashioned with antique nick-nacks everywhere you look. It should be said that there's a line between "deliberately old fashioned" and "dated & tired" that sometimes gets crossed. The staff are very helpful and friendly and the food is perfectly acceptable. Personally I found the cooked breakfast a little dry and would have liked some tomato juice or beans. The leisure facilities (sauna, jacuzzi, gym etc) are a great bonus, as are the complimentary robes, although the swimming pool is a bit small to properly swim in. All in all, this is a great place to stay. The old-fashioned style adds great atmosphere and character.
We stayed for 1 night only and parked up early so had no parking issues, bar the general lack of space available. The place does need some TLC but the stars of the show are the staff. We had a problem with the TV and the owner (George) sorted it. We needed a fan and that was sorted. The spa facilities were good but the gents changing rooms could do with a makeover. They looked a bit dingy. The staff were excellent. The breakfast was top rate. My wife had a full English and she loved it. She had a fried slice too! I stuck to just sausage and bacon and that was great too. The staff, Elena, brilliant! The bed is quite high up so not suitable for those with mobility issues. Comfortable though. The bathroom suite is avocado green so may not appeal to some. On balance i think we would stay again.
I have recently spent 2 nights at this hotel, it is clean and the two Breakfasts i had were good, plenty to choose from and cooked to order. It is an old hotel and the furniture confirms this. The Staff were pleasant and polite. My only problem is the restricted amount of parking spaces, i was lucky on my arrival just managed to get a space as someone was leaving, unfortunately when i arrived back on the second day the Car Park was full and caused me real problems before I got a space. The problem as i see it is the Hotel has a spa and treatment centre, swimming pool and gym. You don't have to be a resident to use these facilities therefore people park cars whilst using the spa, etc. I also witnessed a shopper returning to a car and then driving away, and as the hotel is in the town centre a great free parking area for those who dare to use it, as nobody checks who is parking. I feel that as residents at the hotel should be able to park in the hotel car park.
Four of us stayed for one night. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. The food was good and the staff were very helpful and friendly. It was an old coaching inn and has many pleasant rooms for sitting in.
Would like to thank Amy, Kaye and the staff at the Bell for helping me secretly collude and plan a great afternoon tea for our friends. Decorated it lovely with the bunting, table confetti and napkins I had sent straight to the hotel for the day. The afternoon tea was plentiful for everyone. The bar was fully stocked and nearby. The hotel itself is very original and there's lots of interesting pieces to look at Our room was spacious and well laid out with our spa robes ready and all the usual amenities. We also had a separate sitting room to relax in. The hotel is well located in the market place with other pubs nearby for the old crawl. Very pleased to have booked here and have fallen on a great place to stay. So sad it's all over.
We stayed here for three nights as we were attending a wedding. We arrived to a very friendly greeting on arrival and were taken to our amazing room . Room 22 is situated at the front of the building and has a separate sitting room , huge bedroom and large bathroom. Very clean and beautifully decorated, this room is spectacular and very very quiet. We asked for a fan and it was immediately brought to us. White robes in the bathroom were a wonderful touch. We counted twelve chairs in all throughout our rooms. Beautiful lamps and tables and plenty of wardrobe space with ironing board etc. Breakfast was good on the first morning but even better on the last morning. Hot plates and hot food... delicious. Could not fault . Crisp white napkins made it complete. Our whole experience of this hotel was amazing and can't wait to return. The staff are polite , friendly and go that extra mile . A special mention to Sam and Sandra. Excellent value for money .
It was my daughters birthday so myself, my daughter and daughter in law booked for afternoon tea. The surroundings and food were lovely. Plenty of refills of coffee and tea and the sandwiches and cakes/scones were fabulous. Great price too. We will definitely do it again.
Da da da dum (click click) You rang!!!!! TBH, thought I'd walked onto an Adams Family set. This places is..................well................???? creepy ! I think it may be due an upgrade, as it looks like it was last decorated for the visits of the Queen (Victoria)
The Bell in Driffield redefines quirky the word does not do it justice Access - mainly good, in the Centre of Driffield with rail and local bus services, did not see any cycle parking and I'm not sure how accessible it would be if you had mobility problems. The front entrance is flat enough but the rear from the car park is up steps and through a permanently opened up rotating door. There is a small car park at the rear. The hotel - we did not stay there but came twice to the bar and restaurant area. The whole hotel is packed with all kinds of items from mugs to grand pianos one of which is parked right in front of the door to the gents toilet! There are several rooms including a huge bar restaurant with a carvery at one end. Coffee and scones are served from a smaller bar where there is a big bowl of butter and jam to serve yourself. There are real ales and the food we had was excellent. The staff were just excellent very fast and professional. It's a real destination in its own right particularly if you like somewhere where nothing matches and you could be in a giant bric a brac shop!
Stayed here for a night, the reception staff were fab, polite & very accommodating. Nothing was a problem for them. The hotel is very different to any Best Western we have stayed in, so olde worlde, everywhere had lots of artefacts & mismatched furniture that added to its charm, gr8 for a base to travel to different areas round & about. Defo recommend a visit!
Called in for a carvery, I had roast beef which was excellent, vegetables and a potato. What let it down was the parsnips which were tasty but like concrete, dry and hard, roast potatoes were burnt, crackling to break your teeth. I was told the pork was very dry.
After three years we decided we had to go in and have a drink as we always seemed to walk past the hotel.after our meal we popped over the road ,the bar is big,it was very quiet,we seemed to be the only couple there,so we asked for whiskey sours & they said they don,t do them so we ordered a pint & a whiskey lemonade, decor is old as it's an old place but interesting, for the two drinks was £8.this hotel is a spa also.
Just spent two nights at this lovely hotel. Very olde world decor and we just loved it. The room we had was first class and we had everything we needed. The staff were brilliant and couldn't do enough to make sure we had an enjoyable stay. As guests we had free entry to the adjoining swimming pool and spa and this was a lovely bonus. The hotel is situated in the center of the town which made it easier to do a little shopping and try out some amazing cafes for coffee and cakes. The only downside was the car park for the hotel was quite small and soon got filled up with guests cars and also town residents using the spa. Free parking quite nearby but would rather park at the hotel.
I'm just back from a lovely 3 night stay at The Bell with a group of university friends. The hotel is comfortable and the staff all friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the meals - from the full English breakfast to the 3 course evening meal. Free parking at the back, though it's a bit tight! A couple of our number enjoyed a massage in the Spa. One friend was in a wheelchair and was able to have a ground floor room and it was arranged after the first evening that we should eat our meals in the flat and more accessible part of the dining room too. Another friend has a visual impairment and managed fine.
I visited The Bell with my Dad and sister, for Sunday lunch. They do an excellent carvery, which my Dad and sister thoroughly enjoyed. As I am vegetarian, I requested a large Yorkshire pudding (from the starter menu, as a main course) with vegetables. Nothing was too much trouble, I got mu Yorkshire pudding and vegetarian gravy, which was delicious, and helped myself to the wonderful array of fresh vegetables. I highly recommend this place for a Sunday lunch. There are different prices for different sized plates, so you can choose the most appropriate one. We all enjoyed it and will return.
Carvery with 4 meats on offer not bad apart from the dried end of a Turkey still being served, but the biggest let down is the amount of dust all over the place, it looks as though a good clean would improve the place but it really does need a revamp and at £4 for a pint of Lager is way over the top.
Stayed one night, very quiet hotel not many guests. Stayed in a room by the car park, rather old fashioned but clean and tidy and comfortable. Really can't say much more as did not explore anything further
First time I've ever visited the hotel today, went for afternoon tea with my Mum & it was wonderful! The hotel is stunning,if you like olde world things(as I do!),you won't be disappointed! So many original features,it was beautiful! We had afternoon tea in the wood panelled room & it was lovely! I stupidly forgot to mention we are vegetarians but it was easily put right! Lovely pot of tea, very nice sandwiches & exquisite cakes(the chocolate brownie was the BEST I've EVER tasted!!!!)!! Mum can't wait to go back & ivd recently noticed the spa which looks incredible so I'll certainly be back!!!
A charming hotel in the Yorkshire Wolds and so full of character inside with good quality furnishings throughout! The staff especially reception are so lovely even offering to carry my bag up to my room. The meals are lovely as are the quality of ingredients used. Top class hotel recommended to all !
Throughly enjoyed my first experience at the Driffield Spa for my birthday to indulge in the mud resual and Jazzuzi experience and the use of the facilities loved it. Fantastic customer service warm friendly atmosphere and felt very tranquil. Really enjoyed my birthday with friends Thank you Emma Marshall
Located in the centre of Driffield with a complementary (but small and tight) car park this historic building retains much of its old world charm plus modern day comforts. Our room was clean and comfortable but we found a used spa robe behind the bathroom door. Staff friendly and helpful. We never had chance to try the breakfast as service stops at 0930 even on a weekend. Overall an enjoyable stay.
Title sums it up. Just used the room and bar and very quiet and comfortable. Jazz combo in the bar on Tuesday night but gone by 2200. Second visit and will be back in April next year. Car park a bit small and really needs to be laid out a bit better ( angle the lines rather than having them “regular”)
Amazing place with tons of olde worlde charm, William Morris style decor and v helpful staff. Highly recommended. We enjoyed the arts and crafts/ art nouveau ambience with many interesting features. There is also a small swimming pool and bike storage, useful for a stopover on the Way of the Roses.
Lovely room, very good breakfast but dinner was a shambles. The bar man didn't know how to use the new till, we paid for dinner and the order never reached the kitchen. The few staff disappeared for long periods. We had to clear our own plates. Wouldn't ever eat there again.
Excellent staff. Provided ground floor room to accommodate my disability. Great spa experience, good food and service from all staff.. Loved our stay there and will visit again. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
The spa part of the deal was not too bad apart from a large baby shower being booked in which meant that no one could use the jacuzzi as they sat in it for so long no one else got a look in. The staff in the spa were friendly and helpful. The same could not be said about the staff in the hotel itself. We went across for our carvery and were given a table that was for two people (there were 3 of us) so we asked to be moved. We were told to take a table in the other room. No one showed us to the table and no one came to take our order or tell us what we were supposed to do. The staff were miserable and elusive. There was no one behind the carvery counter to ask and no one behind the bar. We eventually found out that we just had to go up to the counter and wait for someone to show up and serve us. A barmaid eventually appeared and we ordered a bottle of wine. The food was ok, nothing special and the service really let the place down. We had to wait ages to find someone to ask about our dessert and when we asked we were given a board with the desserts on and they then disappeared and didn't come back to take our orders. We again eventually found someone to take the order and again they were miserable and unhelpful. The place was NOT busy so there was no excuse. When we tried to pay, the barmaid then started moaning that we should have paid at the spa (we had been told to pay at the bar). The way she went on and on made us feel very uncomfortable and it was really unprofessional. We could have just left without paying. She didn't know that we hadn't paid for our wine and we had to tell her. I will never go back there to eat and neither will my friends. A big part of eating out is the welcome you receive and the friendliness of the staff - this was non existent - they didn't know we were even there, let alone what we had had or paid for!
First time at the spa - staff friendly. However the changing rooms could do with updating the ceiling in the toilet & shower area is black either from mould or what looks like soot. Not very appealing.
Went for a meeting today and want to express my gratitude to the wonderful staff. My car was damaged in the car park whilst I was at a meeting and the staff went above and beyond to help me. The hotel itself is full of character but the staff make it exceptional.
very friendly, helpful, smiling, happy staff, express check out, delicious breakfast, nice, clean, modern bathroom even though hallway is very old fashioned room was very tidy and well looked after, fast internet, good for work, good location, close to shops
Massive thank you to Elaine who looked after my partner, nan and myself late tonight, very much appreciated! Your an star, thank you. Above and beyond outside of the workplace is amazing. Thank you again, Best wishes Laura, Kieran & Hazel
I called in by chance with a friend today whilst visiting Driffield. We were extremely impressed by the “olde world charm” of this historic hotel. The restaurant/bar manageres was warm and welcoming to our enquires and explained some of the history. We both had a medium carvery which was a choice of four roast joints and I think about ten different vegetable dishes! Everything hot, fresh, local and delicious. We absolutely loved the whole experience, will come back again and rave about it to our friends. Yorkshire hospitality at its best.
They may say the decoration is 'tired' but the staff of The Bell are brilliant. We had a Christmas meal for 11 and none of us had anything to complain about. The food arrived on time so all the servings were served together. There was a good choice from starters through to dessert, The serving staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. Book your Christmas meal here and you will not be disappointed.
Lovely hotel with Olde Worlde charm.Friendly ,approachable staff, good food, relaxed atmosphere, good spa facilities.Town of Driffield has an interesting main street with a good mix of shops and cafes. We visited a very quaint 50s themed tea room, with 50s decor, and waitresses dressed in themed clothes and hairstyles!
53 ladies descended on the inn and enjoyed a very pleasant break on our way to Burton Agnes. The welcome was warming, the rooms all set up for us and the copious amounts of coffee and delicious scones filled us for our onward journey! Thank you so much for a lovely experience!
just had a great afternoon at the bell hotel, spa experience with massage followed by afternoon tea in the quaint hotel. Very relaxing and enjoyable. !st time at the spa but the staff were very friendly and explained everything that we needed to know. The facilities were nice although the changing rooms could do with a spruce up. The massage was wonderful and must be repeated soon. We were served afternoon tea in the hotel and had a nice selection of sandwiches and cakes and lots of coffee. Would do again soon.
I stayed in this hotel for 6 months same years ago this was my first time back & what a change for the better. We enjoyed our afternoon having excellent tea & snacks - glad I took the time to return. There is room for parking
Spent sat nite at the bell great hotel very quirky nice little pool area with steam room sauna and jacuzzi they were serveing a carvery in the restaurant which was nice and good value only draw back is the carpark very small and hard to manoeuvre aroundc
We spent a lovely weekend here as a treat and were delighted with the warm welcome and unique atmosphere offered here. Highly comfortable and individual. The food on offer was delicious and the wine selection excellent. Our bedroom was charming, well-appointed and really comfortable. We were enchanted and shall definitely visit again.
The staff in all departments were attentive and helpful. The rooms were comfortable, spacious and clean. The entire hotel oozed character. I can highly recommend this hotel and would certainly stay here again.
My friend and I went for the spa with afternoon tea special. This is not a trendy over fussy place. Dont expect hightech swishy. What it is - is friendly great value and perfect for a chill out day. The hydrotherapy pool is brilliant so relaxing. The pool is on the small size but great to just relax in whilst my friend had a back and shoulder massage which she said was the best she has ever had. Coffee was brought to us to enjoy by the pool. There is a nice relaxation area. The staff could not he nicer. Afternoon tea was served in the bar. yes the place is a bit old and could do with a lick of paint but can not beat this place for value for money worth the trip. We have already booked to go back in january for a post xmas treat.
What an old worldy place. Brilliant. Obviously not changed for years but well kept. My friend and I were delivering antiques to across the road and popped in for lunch. We weren't disappointed, had a medium carvery and two soft drinks for under £20-00. But then went back for two sweets, again not disappointed. Victoria and Sue looked after us very well. One tip! Please have a look at getting more non alcoholic drinks other than Becks Blue. We are both on tablets as well as driving and cannot take alcohol. Will come again before the auction next time.
I dropped in for lunch with friends. The dining room table tops were dirty, cleared but not wiped. The table mats were covered in more than one days dirty deposits and the glasses were dirty. I felt very uncomfortable eating in dirty and creepy surroundings and incredulous at the state of the place, to which the staff appeared oblivious. The food tasted ok and the place was busy but not a pleasant experience at all.
Good basic carvery at a very reasonable cost. Old fashioned feel to this market town hotel. Good choice of meat and various vegetables are on offer. Pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff. Seems to have carvery as an offer everyday. Very good point is that there are small, medium and large plate offers.
Appreciate the hotel is advertised as Victorian, it definitely is a time warp. We had a terrible nights sleep, beds were extremely uncomfortable. The bathroom looked like a public toilet. After a family get together and returning to the hotel at 10.30pm we were informed the bar was closed even to residents. We would definitely not return to this hotel.
We didn't stay , but had a very pleasant lunch here - good choice menu , salad bar or carvery on offer with a good selection of drinks . The staff are smiley ,friendly and efficient - the food is well prepared and the only quibble is having to go to the carvery for vegetables but very reasonable prices makes up for that. If you're in the area call in - Lunch served 12 til 2
A group of 14 stayed for a one night stopover after our 3rd day of cycling the Way of the Roses.. Smooth checkin bikes stored with ease. Hotel nice clean and friendly.. Breakfast was fabulous. Thank you
The advantage of living in Driffield is leaving the car at home and having a few drinks with mates. This a nice drinkers pub, chatty staff and a good pint. A nice menu for food is also available to save on the cooking and washing up
As we were visiting Driffield for the first time, just for a few hours, we looked for a restaurant but did not want fish and chips again!! The carvery was advertised outside at a reasonable price so took a chance. So pleased we did! Friendly staff and an excellent meal. If we ever return to Driffield we will definitely return there.
I had looked for a hotel with the pool and this was the only one I could find in the area. I was a bit concerned from some of the reviews I had read but we really enjoyed our short break at The Bell Inn. Yes it is a step back in time but that is what makes it so special. We visit other hotels and this one is special because it is so quirky, easy to get lost going to the pool, the hotel is just lovely. The Staff are all really nice, nothing is too much trouble. Comfortable beds, a clean room, lots of hot water, breakfast was really good too, local, quality produce used. A nice bar with a good variety of drinks and even a good coffee if that is what you want. The only extra I would recommend would be to have a safe in the room, everything else is provided. Thank you we will be back.
I visited the bell on the first of June and me and my mother came for a meal. My mother had a piece of salmon witch she said was absolutely divine and i had the Cajun chicken that I could not fault at all. The only down side to this place is the owner who smells of faeces and was breathing Down our necks for our whole stay
If you wish to stay in a hotel that smells like your chain smoking aunts house and to listen to crap jazz whilst you try to sleep whilst looking at hideous decor, this is the place for you. If not, avoid like the plague, I wouldn't stay here again if you paid me. I don't think I can say much more
I visited the hotel for business. The staff are lovely and very friendly but the hotel is in desperate need of a refurbishment the rooms and main areas are very dated, even the towels and bedding look as though they have seen better days. The car park is a nightmare limited spaces and very cramped. The breakfast was nice however i didn't try any of the evening meals.
Im a great believer in you get what you pay for and we certainly got that. The best thing about the hotel though has to be the staff, every member of staff made the stay memorable. The room was nice and big and filled with interesting old furniture. Great little bar and food was very nice. We`ll be back.
I have stayed at this slightly eccentric hotel 10's of times over the last 20 years. Situated in the centre of the town. Parking can be a tad difficult but do not be put off. Dinner great quality and portions. Do not miss breakfast, it is superb; probably the best in Yorkshire. Worth a visit.
Nothing much has changed in 3 years since our last stay here, the floors still creak 24/7 the rooms are of a good size as is the en suite bathroom and the beds were reasonably comfortable but everything is ill thought out and rather shabby. Nice touches with dressing gowns, an iron and ironing board and the wifi worked ok. The owner? still hovers around but says nothing, (reminds me of a character from the Munsters) and does nothing to help or assist his staff who are very thin on the ground poor things. The bar is open but often not staffed and closes at 11.00 regardless that there were several residents enjoying a drink and owner sat behind the partition making sure no-one helped themselves to a drink! The dining room is closed in the evening, the reason given was that it had been laid up for breakfast! I don't know about anyone else but when I book into a nice hotel and want an evening meal I expect to eat it in nice surroundings from a well laid table not on a grubby table in a bar full of people drinking.Pub grub to me is for lunch not an evening meal.We ordered our meal regardless and the main part of it arrived, no cutlery, and no potatoes or veg which arrived a good 5 to 10 minutes after which resulted in a luke warm Haddock and peas /Scampi. We didn't bother with dessert! We had booked room only and went to the Secret Garden Cafe for a wonderful breakfast for £9 for the 2 of us. Second night we and 8 others in our party went out to eat and had a wonderful meal at the Marco Polo Italian restaurant in the main High Street. I would go back as the hotel is ideally situated but it is a pity that it is not run well or welcoming from the management. The staff deserve a medal.
We stayed at the Bell this week whilst visiting family in Driffield. We were in the last available room which was a ground floor room which had disabled access which we did not need but loved. The room was large with twin beds and had an enormous bathroom with wet room type shower and a bath. There was a walk in wardrobe with lots of extras on the shelves hairdryer, iron etc and 2 bathrobes. the room like the hotel was furnished with antique pieces and had everything we needed for our stay. We did not use many of the hotels facilities or eat there due to our committments but did go into the bar for a drink and had a great game of snooker in the lower ground floor snooker room. We would definately stay next time which will be in two weeks time. People said parking was an issue and the car park is small possibly 15 or 20 cars but we managed to park each time. Matress seemed a bit poor but both slept very comfortably each night. Thought the noise from the car park outside our window would wake us but the secondary glazing kept out all of the noise. There is a spa attached to the hotel which has very reasonable rates and I will treat myself to a treatment in the future. Hotel tip Can you supply a dry mop or rubber blade in the bathroom to enable us to dry the floor after a shower. Thanks a great stay.
Love coming to the Bell every other Thursday for the folk music nights. Very friendly atmosphere and very welcoming to everyone. The hotel is very interesting to look round and a lovely place to sing and listen to great music.
This hotel has a lot of character. Staff were very friendly and catered to our needs. We ate in the bar and the food was very tasty. The rooms were quite and comfortable and we will definetaly return. Thanks.
Visited the Bell in Monday for my birthday with some of my family. Had a lovely couple of hours relaxing in the spa and then a manicure. The lady was really friendly and professional and all the staff couldn't do enough to help us enjoy ourselves. I even had time for a quick raspberry gin from the extensive new 'gin menu' before we left...delicious! Thank you very much Bell Hotel, we will be back.
Staff very friendly and welcoming, Wi-Fi provided, very old world and cluttered with faded furniture and remnants of Valentine's Day decorations in April!! Owner parked his van in such a way that two of the precious car parking spaces were not accessible. Strong smell of drains emanating from toilets when we entered hotel from the car park. Bathroom had peeling linoleum and loo stained. I am sure the cleaners did their best but the place so badly needs gutting and refurbishing. Carpets old and room a bit smelly. Had to move heavy chest of drawers and unplug a lamp to find enough plugs for recharging the electronic equipment. Breakfast was OK but went out for evening meal to Wetherspoons which was reasonable - unfortunately the Indian restaurant was shut over Easter. Would not recommend this hotel.
...or have young children or generally want a quiet place to stay. Checked in and went into town for food as restaurant empty at 6.30, looked dated and not very appealing. Found very good Indian food close by at Trishna. Back to hotel to finish up the days work when I thought I heard someone practicing trumpet in a room close by. Soon realised it was a full on band downstairs in the bar and pretty loud with it. Too distracted to work and noise overpowering first headphones then earplugs. 9pm now, hoping it doesn't go on too long. Not what I expected and haven't been stuck above a pub with a racket since my travelling days staying in hostels or pubs where I knew what to expect. Place could do with an update but isn't too bad, a bit quirky and I would have given 3 marks. No warning about the racket to come from the bar which is totally unacceptable.
Booked spa and afternoon tea for mother's day, and we both loved it! Spa was clean, warm, and so relaxing! Afternoon tea and was lovely, although the hotel could do with being a bit updated, the food was lovely. They also catered for vegetarian. Well worth the money, would definitely do again!
this hotel is a jem realy querky place busy most of the time great staff make you feel well at home the food is good and large portions breakfast is real good parkibng can be an issue part of the day but on the whole a great stay
It was a mini break and a chance to explore the area of Bridlington, Hull and Scarborough. Good bus and train connections. Driffield is a busy market town with good shops and facilities. The Bell is in the centre and you should visit and bottle the ambiance.
This place has a lot going for it. Central location. Long standing favourite of the farming community. Venue full of old world charm with its wooden paneling. But the main courses were adequate rather than good. Tired yellowing broccoli, slightly soggy pie crust etc. At that stage, perhaps three stars. However the desserts were to die for. Chocolate brownie sundae was, without exaggeration, pone of the best sweets we've ever had, full of brownie, cherries, chocolate pieces and very full of paste. The white chocolate creme brulee was not far behind. So four starts. Maybe for the main courses we chose the wrong things. There is a salad option which did look good.
We returned to the bell for a couple of nights visit and I must say it was just as good as the last time. The hotel is very different to the newer modern hotels that seem to be popping up all over. This hotel is interesting and has character, we love it!! Again food good, staff great. Thank you we will be back.
Just got back from a nights stay with my wife at this Hotel. Being a great western rewards card holder we go to best western hotel a lot. Where do I start it was like going back 50 years and to be honest it was like a very bad residential home. Having parked in the small car round the back we entered what I can only describe as a old junk shop with old tables, chairs and old tatty settles just put anywhere and cigarette end just thrown everywhere outside the entrance. A young girl greeted us she was very nice and polite but she was the only member of staff trying to do everything, working so hard. We got to the room freezing not heating was on and this was turned of in the middle of night, then the bathroom which again looked like it had not had any work done on it for the last 20 years unbelievable really . We only saw 3 other couples in the hotel for a Saturday night that tell you everything, we went down to the bar and had one look ( Not one person in the bar) and went straight out to have a drink and eat. The atmosphere was like being at a wake. Breakfast was good but it was like sitting in someone front room and as quite as a library Summary I travel a lot with my work and probably stay out 40 times a year this is the first bad review I have had to write, I do like old hotels but this was unbelievable and I cant understand why Best Western have not picked up on this hotel because its not good for the name of the company it really needs shutting and updating so badly We was not offered a feedback form at the end of the stay so could not complete one. We stayed in room 8 which if Best western do send someone in please stay in this room to see what I mean. Very very poor and we paid £97 pounds for the stay what a Joke ,,,,,,,
went to a gathering at the bell havent been for years and belive me it hasnt had any thing done in year, there where settees scattered around which looked as if they had come out of a skip, light shades from the sixtys and stained and wall paper out of the 80s , in the bar there was no seating pads in some places the food was nice shame its stuck in time warp and not a good one grotty.
The Bell is a traditional hotel that was probably once a coaching inn. Our first impressions were that it was a rambling building with a number of ground floor rooms for eating, drinking etc. The room we had booked was adequate and had a separate lounge which was accessed through a door and down a few steps. However we made no use of it as it was very cold and the TV was in the bedroom. The bedroom itself was fine with a comfortable bed and tea and coffee making facilities. The en-suite was standard but the extractor fan was not working which we would have complained about if we had been staying for longer than one night, however it did have a bidet! We found the placement of mirrors was not good, too dark and no nearby power points. The bar was a real disappointment to me. Despite having five or six handpumps there was no real ale available at all. Don't they employ a cellar manager? Having draught beer was one of the reasons we booked the place! We slept well and it was quiet during the night. The breakfast was decent if rather pricey. We wouldn't consider The Bell again when travelling north as it, in our opinion, does not represent particularly good value for money.
We received a groupon for afternoon tea at this hotel. We were shown to our table, our tea was presented, we were asked once if we required more tea and that was it! Bearing in mind we were the only people in the hotel I would have expected a little more attention. The tea was not the best we have had. Plenty of sweet stuff, not enough savoury. A little salad or something to go with the minuscule portions of quiche would not have gone amiss, that said the ham sandwich was delicious. Also pastry forks so we didn't have to scoop the cheesecake up with our fingers.
My wife Janis and I travelled to Beverley in 2015 to meet up with newly found relatives of hers. Her father was orphaned in about 1908 and sailed to Australia in 2024 after being taken in by an Aunt. My wife's Family was unknown until we received an E-mail from a gentleman from Beverley in 2014 asking if she was related to a Charles Topham from Beverley....this she was and we replied, to find that this gentleman was her first cousin. After several communications, we flew to The UK and toured to Norway on The Britannia then back to England. hired a vehicle and drove to Beverley. Alas, we could get no accommodation in Beverley because of a Caravan Convention, so we drove to Driffield and obtained a room at The Best Western The Bell. It was great, we were looked after like LONG LOST FAMILY, lovely room, lovely meals and service. We parked our vehicle in a small parking area at the rear with no problems. To us it was a great choice, OLD FASHIONED, COMFORTABLE, ACCOMODATION...we would definitely stay there again.
Had a wonderful time at the spa today (we didn't stay at the hotel) , amazing facilities, lovely and clean. Had the best massage from Kim lovely and relaxing. The meal at the Bell Hotel was perfect!!!
Only stayed for one night, would have liked to stay longer. Check-in was straightforward and quick, I was shown to my room not just told where it was, which was handy as the hotel is a bit of a maze! The room was perfect - Number 5 with the Eagle headboard! Everything was clean and comfy. Some of the furniture is antique and showing that it's had a few years of love, but it's all well-cared-for, nothing is scruffy or unkempt. The wifi worked, and there was everything I needed in the room. I had supper in the restaurant - I wasn't very hungry so only had a starter, smoked salmon & prawns, which was lovely. Breakfast the next morning was generous and very nice, the scrambled eggs (my personal litmus test) were pretty good. Check-out was as smooth as check in. Things to be aware of: the car park isn't very big, but there are other car parks within an easy walk. It's a very old building - some of the floors squeak a bit, and there are stairs and steps here and there. If you're used to modern corporate hotels you might find this a bit of a culture shock, but I thought it was lovely and will be back regularly now I know it's there.
Maple room is great for a party. Helpful staff and the room looked great. Great bar upstairs and service. Our guests were staying and their room was really nice. Couple of grumbles, the rooms were very hot and no staff on in the main bar . Rang the bell a few times but no one came. Waited nearly half an hour then went back to the room. Bit disappointing to say the least. Come to a nice hotel and can't get a drink.
We went for a spa day and to be honest we were extremely disappointed, it was cold every where, the rooms had mould and just felt very unkept, the lady in reception was very polite and welcoming but for all the spa days we've been on this was the first we felt we had wasted our money, it's such a shame as it could be really lovely if they spent a bit of money updating it. On a plus the afternoon tea was really good but again served in a freezing cold room
The Bell Inn, in Driffield, the Heart of the Yorkshire Wolds is absolutely full of character and interesting features. It was a true gem of a find. Set in the middle of the town, not far from the beautiful Church or High Street shopping area. Ideal for visiting the villages of the Wolds. We were greeted at reception and personally taken to our rooms. The rooms are lovely and very comfortable, with tea and coffee making facilities and very comfortable easy chair and a very comfortable bed. We had a sunken bath with shower over and this did work by keeping the floor dry. We enjoyed a lovely Christmas meal on our first night, followed by a very good breakfast the following morning, lots of choice. Lovely choices of food.
I stayed here as it was the venue for a Christmas function. The room was clean with the facilities expected in any hotel. Some of the room fixtures and furniture were slightly faded along with the decoration but it was in keeping with an 18th century building. A large functional bathroom, it was nice to have a window in there unlike modern hotels. The room was cold on arrival but warmed when the radiator thermostats were turned up, suspect the heating system was on a timer as the radiators didn't heat up straight away. The dining room for breakfast was very quiet and may benefit from some background music but that aside it was one of the nicest full English breakfasts I've had in a hotel! Only big negative is the hotel car park is tiny and was full on my arrival. I parked in a nearby free car park that was a few minutes walk away, the hotel website did say it was a small car park however giving directions to the nearby parking would be beneficial. Very helpful and friendly staff, overall a pleasant stay and would book again.
I really hope to plan another holiday so I can stay here again. Behind its unprepossessing front hides a beautiful old building, which I think has been lovingly maintained. I loved the labyrinthine corridors which led to my room, and I thought my room was beautiful. The one or two creaking floorboards simply added good character, for me. It's not easy to maintain an old building, so what really matters is that it is clean. I did have a little trouble with using the bath, so I reported this to the lady on reception in the morning when I went out for the day, and when I got back she explained that the taps simply need to be turned much further than we are used to in modern buildings - and she was right and I had a lovely bath that evening. I was there two nights and ended up eating there both times. I had walked down the Hight Street, and there are other choices but none happened to take my fancy. I stayed here because I wanted to visit Hull (since I was already in the area), but did not want to stay in Hull itself. It was a 5-10 minute walk to the train station, and the service was good. I did have breakfast included in my rate, and I was happy with it, but I didn't try the cooked options so cannot comment on those. I note other people have commented on the carpark: I did not have as much trouble as many of them, but I was nervous about leaving my car there, since it is indeed small. However, nothing did happen - most people don't want to scratch their cars either! I tried to use the WiFi but unfortunately I found it unreliable. Since I did not really need it (because it feels even more like a holiday when you can ignore the internet), I was not bothered and didn't report this to the staff. (It may have been my devices and not their WiFi.) I did not use the spa.
Not a run of the mill hotel very different with little rooms here and there , lots to look at dating back in history. Small car parking limited but extra parking near by. Breakfast spot on and served piping hot. I will be returning next time in the area , football fans bars nearby and a number of different restaurants
Admittedly we booked on the Friday for the Saturday night so did not expect to have a big choice of rooms and ended up with Room 16. Suffice to say will not be staying there again. Lots of younger staff members who were really helpful on arrival and when husband checking out asked if stay was OK, when he proceeded to advise of condition of bathroom in that room they did not seem particularly bothered. General appearance of hotel being faded and in dire need of attention all round.
Lovely morning coffee and scone on offer which is really good value. Love the atmosphere in here. Feel very comfortable here and a good meeting place . Also do nice lunches. Great gym and pool downstairs.
Everything looked promising when I booked our wet side and afternoon experience some weeks ago however... On arrival the tiny car park was rammed with cars. The spaces will not accommodate anything bigger than a Ford Fiesta let alone an estate car. Regardless I parked in what I thought was a space and continued into the venue. We were met by a lady on reception who led us down into the spa and gave us our robes and towels. What can I say about the Spa itself... very very dated and not the cleanest. As we walked around the spa I noticed in some of the treatment rooms they had cheap plastic sun loungers - hardly luxury! Changing rooms were adequate - although I do think you could do with more than one ladies toilet. The pool needs emptying and cleaning. The grout is black! The walk ways are filthy and need to be pressure washed. Whilst in the spa I was asked twice to move my car in the car park. Not something I would mind doing if I wasn't 35 weeks pregnant and getting dressed wasn't a massive undertaking. I had a shellac pedicure by a lovely therapist however on closer inspection she had got shellac all over my toes. Also whilst doing the treatment she yawned on several occasions and just made me feel like she wasn't truly interested in actually being there. The afternoon tea experience... Well I mean I know it was a cheap package but some of the deserts were still cold in the middle from where they had been frozen. Nothing was fresh. As for the waitress who served us, she was never to be seen again. And we left without seeing a single member of staff. Overall, it was a poor experience and I won't be back. If you are considering staying here or visiting the "spa", I'd suggest you spend a bit more and go elsewhere. As for the hotel being a Best Western.... what a joke!
A long time since I had stayed here and I hoped it would not disappoint and to be fair it was okay, a little dated but ye olde building. The car park is still a nightmare, however if people parked in the bays it would be a whole lot easier. Rooms are okay nice and light well aired but have all the mod cons you need. As I was on my own I ate in the bar rather than the Restraunt and the food was okay (fish and chips). The one annoying issue was NO WIFI and they haven't for some time
Made the unfortunate mistake of booking afternoon tea for 29/08/17 with a friend at the Bell Hotel. Where shall I start ? - with the staff. On arrival at about 2.30 pm. the guy on reception (“lurch” ? ) completely ignored us (as did his replacement, as we left later). Eventually we found a friendly waitress who brought our afternoon tea, but who subsequently proved to be “invisible”. As for the food – we guess most of it was prepared the previous day, after we had booked. The sandwiches may have been made on the day (and squashed into the ‘fridge) but the cheese was stale and the ham – well, who knows ? Quiche ? - served in fingers (yes, fingers or slivers) curled up at the ends. Cakes ? We saw the scones and jam & cream and thought “at last, this looks good” but no. They were warm, having possibly been warmed up in the microwave. Result ? Rock hard. The other cakes – I can't be bothered. Any plus points ? Yes, the tea was good. It was no comfort that we had arranged a “discount” over their usual charge of £25 for two, and it beggars belief that the establishment (part of the Best Western group) can justify charging this. Overall score 1 (out of 10)
Stayed here for one night with a friend while cycling the Way of the Roses, from Morecambe to Bridlington. We'd overestimated the amount of time the 170-mile route would take and only really needed three days so were in a dilemma: whether to stop in Driffield for the night and complete the final 20 miles of the ride the following day or push on to Bridlington and stay there the final night. In the end, we decided to stay in Driffield although the final 20 miles of the WotR ride is pretty quick and easy. Driffield is - it must be said - a quiet little town, rather dour compared to York, Pately Bridge, Settle, Lancaster - some of the other places we'd passed through. Dining options are very limited. The Bell Inn itself offered food (more in a minute), plus a couple of passable Indian restaurants, an OK-looking (but fully booked) Turkish and a fish and chip place. The Bell Inn itself was surprisingly good! The staff were very welcoming and helpful, allowing us to lock our bikes in a spare shed at the back of the property. Our room was very old-fashioned, but sort of authentically so, rather than deliberately chintzy. It had twin beds, plenty of space and a huge bathroom. the only disappointment was that the bath taps seemed to be disconnected and I had to fill the bath using the shower which took ages. Nonetheless, I was able to have a hot bath after 50 miles cycling so no complaints. We had a drink at the bar which was fine - nice to be offered the opportunity to have the price of the drink added to your room bill - very civilised. THe hotel wifi was patchy. We didn't use the Spa facilities. The Bell Inn's restaurant seemed to be popular with older customers, perhaps seeking a traditional sort of meal. We opted for one of the Indian restaurants which dished up a good mulligatawny soup but only a passable curry. In summary, the Bell Inn was nice but I'm not sure I'd return to Driffield just to experience it!
While on a shopping trip to the pleasant, friendly market town of Driffield, my wife and I decided to have lunch at The Bell. It is several years since we last had lunch there and the first thing that we noticed was that lunches are now based on table, rather than buffet, service. We prefer this approach. Lunches are served in the large bar and the "corn exchange". The lunch menu is fairly limited but featured a roast of the day, and two or three other dishes, including a well stocked buffet salad bar. Light bites are also available. Meals are ordered at a desk and drinks are ordered at the bar. My wife opted for the roast of the day (pork loin with pink peppercorn sauce) while I chose the steak and ale pie. Both dishes were enjoyable with matching gravy and a separate dish of tasty vegetables. The choice of wines (from a chalkboard) is limited, but adequate and reasonably priced. We chose a Chilean merlot. To finish we enjoyed local ice creams. Service was friendly and efficient. Uniquely, in my experience, the gents' toilet features tiles decorated with the words and music of Rule Britannia (there must be a story behind this!).
Lovely old fashioned hotel. Clean friendly and comfortable. Came for a 2 day birthday break. Car park very small so was a bit of a juggle for hubby to park. Large room with bathroom and sitting arrears. Huge King size bed very comfortable. Nothing to see outhe of window as at back but quiet so was fine with that. Rooms downstairs very quaint and a bit higgledy-piggledy which adds to the character. They do meals and offers such as coffee and cake.staff very friendly but not many so you did have to look for someone on reception as they seemed to double up in the bar lol.hotel has a separate spa across the car park. Haven't used it but had a tour and looks lovely. Small pool jacuzzi sauna treatment rooms changing rooms and showers. Driffield is a lovely market town. Our first visit. The hotel is on the main high street and plenty of shops. And loads of pubs of which we sampled a few. The star pub opposite hotel car park was our favourite. Very friendly and welcoming and cheap beer which was a bonus. All in all a lovely break except for me having a heavy cold lol x
stayed for one night through work. rooms very pleasant and comfortable (only slight criticism is the mattress was a little soft). i get an allowance through work for an evening meal but really couldn't be bothered as i had a long shift at work so didn't take advantage of this and didn't marie breakfast either unfortunately, i checked out the following morning and asked if could have sunday lunch in place of my evening meal and the manager could not be more accommodating. now some people may say rightly so but this hotel gets very busy for sunday lunch so she didn't have to entertain me really. i ended up having a 3 course sunday lunch which was fantastic. couldn't fault this place. very warm, friendly, cosy ambiance. i will recommend tommy employer that they book this hotel for all staff working in the area. thank you.
Just stayed for one night at this hotel in the heart of Driffield. Had to stay in a twin room as this was the only one left, but found that it's bathroom had been designed for the infirm/disabled visitor-a good size, but not really suitable for ourselves. Hotel has real character - could perhaps class it as "shabby chic", which we loved, but appreciate would not be to everyone's taste. Had an excellent evening meal accompanied by good ale and house wine. Service was efficient and with a smile - found all the staff to be friendly and polite. Hope the management keep a close eye on those who use the small car park - our room overlooked it and we saw several people using it as a short stay car park whilst not actually using the hotel or attached spa/gym. Will certainly return - the hotel deserves to be supported, being a focal point for the town.
Old building with a distinctive character of its own, right on the High Street in Driffield, close to the Yorkshire Coast and Wolds. The rooms are not the standard modern hotel boxes, but still have all the facilities expected. Good bar and food at reasonable prices. Really friendly, non-showy, staff.
Do not stay here. This has to be the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The place is filthy and incredibly tired and tatty. The rooms are dirty with shabby tatty bedding and old lumpy mattresses on the bed. The reception staff are rude and argumentative and clearly do not value any custom. The Bell Hotel needs to be shut down and Best Western need to remove any association from it
We have just had a lovely two night break at the Bell Hotel in Driffield. This is a charming hotel full of character and so totally different to most modern hotels. It is full of historic photos and wonderful paintings with lots of nooks and crannys. The staff are so friendly and helpful that we felt as if we were family almost immediately The food is excellent and although we had booked dinner, bed and breakfast we loved it so much we had lunch as well. How many modern hotels serve scones, jam and cream with coffee for £2.00 at 10 am for 6 days a week and have a menu for the selection of whiskys available. The bedrooms are very comfortable with good sized bathrooms and the Spa and pool area is a great plus. All in all a very pleasant hotel to visit and we will return
A trip into Driffield to our usual haunts was thwarted as all venues were fully booked and we landed up in the Bell restaurant which was deserted as all residents were attending a function elsewhere. They missed a treat. Service was good, food beautifully cooked and presented and prices reasonable. I urge you to try it!
Friendly and helpful staff. A big plus is the free use of the Spa. When we stayed (May 2017) the Jacuzzi was not working, so we were invited to use the SuperSpa instead - highly recommend and very enjoyable. Are planning to return later this year,
The hotel itself looks very dated. But the pool and spa area are a hidden gem of Driffield! Very modern and recently renovated. I have been on several occasions and pay to use the spa rather than our local pool! I've also had the afternoon tea package with my sister which we didn't fully enjoy. But loved the spa areas.
I've stayed here a couple of times and, while the rooms are fairly well appointed, the beds relatively comfortable and the service ok... I have struggled to get any sleep whatsoever on either stay due to the heat of the room(s)!!! The car park is very, very tight and extremely difficult to negotiate.
The rooms were very nice. Full of character. The bed was lovely. Very high. Almost needed a lift up, but very good. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate as well as biscuits. Nice fluffy towels in the bathroom and straight on to the Main Street. Pleanty of eating places as well as pubs
The hotel is part of a very old building which gives it character, the room was a good size and bed was big and comfy. Breakfast was plenty and cooked quickly from order. All the staff we delt with were friendly polite and helpful. Driffield is well positioned for exploring the wolds and coastline, enjoyed our time in the area and would stay again.
We decided to base ourselves in Driffield so we could see something of the Moors, and it is nicely central and has some amenities and a few restaurants, but wasn't as picturesque as we had hoped. Beverley, further south, is much nicer. But The Bell is definitely "different"! Very old and quaint and was probably given a face lift in the 70s and still retains colourful bathroom suites, particularly our Executive room which featured a turquoise suite. Honestly not very comfortable especially the very soft and very high bed, but the staff are excellent and extremely helpful. They changed our room when I asked them to, and the second room was much more comfortable and very spacious. Nice bar and good breakfasts and right in the centre of Driffield.
I booked this hotel for a customer for 2 nights and rang the hotel to cancel the 2nd night on the day of the stay. Was advised that as it was before 4pm I could cancel free of charge. I then went back to the customer to tell him I could get a refund. Rang hotel back 10 minutes later only for them to tell me that they had changed their minds and would not cancel the booking. When I asked why they advised that as I had already paid for the room they had got the money and wouldn't give it back. Shocking way to treat guests! PS. Guest advised room looked as it hadn't been updated since the 1920s All in all I think it best to avoid if at all possible.
I visited this hotel , with a friend, for afternoon tea. I had purchased a voucher, via Groupon. It was the first afternoon tea that I've done, although my friend has been on many. We were both very happy with the service, the selection of sandwiches and cakes and our drinks. The hotel has an old world charm to it and the surroundings were very pleasant. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food lovely. I would certainly return.
Had a great spa day with the girls the massage was amazing with use of the spa facilities the pool steam room sauna super spa a great day out nothing too much trouble for the staff I would highly recommend this gem of a spa
Looked after me really well - had to leave by 5:30 a.m and, when I came down, the night porter had already put out a pot of tea for me in the breakfast room with a selection of cereals and fruit - beyond the call of duty! It was nice to get an alarm call with a human voice on the phone, too!
We have visited the Bell many times in recent months. One of our party had been 3 times in 10 days. On Saturday evening we asked the bar man to put the first round of drinks on the bill but he refused and said we had to pay cash! Before this a couple had walked out through lack of bar service! After our meal for 9 ( which was excellent as usual) at 11.07pm we were told by the same bar man that he should not really serve us because it was after 11pm and we were not residents! We have been to the Bell many times and spent over £300 on Saturday but his attitude was un called for!!
Room clean but bin not emptied from previous occupant. Hotel is in an old building so expect creaky floors but this is not a problem as it adds to the character. Be careful which room you are given as one room is next to the boiler cupboard and it runs all night so not great for us light sleepers. Breakfast selection is good and staff friendly. Parking can be an issue as not many spaces and can be a little tight. I've not had an evening meal here so can't comment on the quality of the food other than breakfast.
Stayed here for 1 night too many, to see Ken Dodd in Bridlington. Owners very obnoxious I apologised for going to Breakfast too late and for forgetting to put our watches forward for BST and was told BY THE OWNER very nastily that if you have to apologise its already too late!!. No customer skills NO WiFi in most of the building def not in our room no 16 no apologies no heating on arrival and is turned off at midnight so room was cold when we got back from show (Ken Dodd show always goes on v late). Their Car park is very small an awkward to get in and out and had our Car damaged. The place has Olde Worlde charm BUT is very cluttered and needs a good spruce up. Once the room was warm we were comfortable and its facilities were ok. The eve meal was excellent as was the Breakfast (which we did not completely eat because of their disgusting attitude). But oh the management needs to get out more. I will never return.
Reading what other guests are saying this is an ongoing problem at this hotel I wish we had realised. The hotel is more shabby than chic and please don't dare to complain about the cold room. We hadn't realised the hour had changed and were treated like lepers when we arrived an hour late for breakfast. We will not be going back either.
Had a nice lunch with my mum and son! Sandwiches and salads were nice and the chips amazing, proper chips!! Staff friendly and everywhere was clean if a little tied would recommend if visiting driffeield.
What a surprise i got when we entered The Bell Hotel on Friday lunch time, not only was i surprised to see an old colleague, Joanne working the floor, but could not believe how busy it was and nobody was helping her to serve meals or helping the girl behind the bar. We had to wait for tables to be cleared. We have never visited the hotel before, and we really enjoyed our meals. The chicken pie was delicious. We will be calling in again the next time we are in Driffield.
Went with colleagues expecting a quality afternoon tea as meals here are good home cooking. What a disappointment. Sandwiches were tiny consisting of oneof each of cheese, egg and ham a slice of plain quiche which was one mouthful and a tea plate consisting of a scone, chocolate bun and a sliver of cheesecake. The teapot was replenished. However at £12.50 per head I was appalled and had I been with family I would have complained. This is not acceptable when there are many cafes in the area.
Had a great 2 night stay in this quirky hotel. We ate in the hotel both nights and the food was excellent, as was breakfast, with plenty of choice. We couldn't figure out how to get to the spa from the hotel without going across the car park, but this is somewhere we'll definitely stay again.
25 years ago The Bell was an extremely comfortable hostelry, with above average amenities and food. Unfortunately, not much seems to have changed since then. Room was clean and tidy, basic facilities functional, but the whole place seems in need of a refresh / refurbishment. Staff were great, friendly and helpful, but they deserve to be working in a brighter more modern environment. There are better value accommodations in Driffield.
The building was a little tired, but the food was excellent, The Hotel is dog friendly in another room not in the carpeted area, the staff were welcoming and polite clean and tidy, Will call again next time we are in Driffield.
We got let down by another hotel in the town so found this place in a bit of an emergency. Paid £98 a room and was told by the manager they always charge that. After we had paid we found the same room available at £68 on some third party sites. Felt ripped off already. The room was large, comfy bed and the whole hotel is very "oldy worldly" and a bit whacky. The main issue with the room (22) that all night pipes have water under pressure shooting through them that creates a noise similar to when a steam train release steam ! Kept us awake on/off all night as it increases in noise level then drops then repeats . Not conducive to a good night sleep that you just paid £98 for. The only other negative is that breakfast (we were told by the manager) only went to 9.30Am on a Sunday morning. Most other hotels make it later 10/10.30 which is nice for a little Sunday sleep in for guests. oh and room 22 when your sat on the loo and lean to one side for the obvious reason the whole toilet lifts off the floor! All in all probably wouldn't use again.
Would recommend for an overnight stay. Right in the town centre, close to amenities and everything you need when on business. Check in was smooth and I was showed to my room without any issues. The room was spacious and was everything you need on a business trip. Went across the road to a Chinese restaurant for our evening meal with customers and then went back to the hotel for a final drink. The same girl that checked us in 3 hours earlier served us our drinks and was so friendly, I think her name was Abbey and she was a credit to the hotel, showing her intelligence throughout the resulting conversations. Will no doubt return in the future
The Bell Hotel in Driffield is trades under the camouflage of Great Western Hotels but is independently owned and altjough the hotel boasts many on site features squash courts sauna etc I was more concerned about my resevation of staying in the hotel for one night. My room was prebooked for 2 using expedia and the location was excellent with surprisingly a parking space in its car park which was relatively small in comparison to the size of the hotel and the number of rooms. Arriving at checkout I was greeted by a smiling welcoming face of a young lady and I was shown to my room by a rather tall gentleman who seemed to be part of the fixtures and fittings but I was unsure of his position. The room I was shown to (no 2) was at first seemingly quaint keeping in style with the rest of the hotel with its artefacts and antique furniture. However it was a little confusing to wonder why the kettle and refreshments were in the wardrobe (only one small bottle of water despite being for two guests) I found these by chance as i unpacked. Cosy arm chars in the room and a good siz tv however there was not a view from the window except that of another room about 10 ft away. The bed was an unusual height I would guess about 12 inches or more taller than typical beds not duch a big deal however spending one night on this bed was enough with its very uncomfortable soft lumpy mattress. Prior to retiring in the evening I spent a few hours in various public areas down stairs. I was served at the bar by young lady who checked me in who seemed to be multitasking thr hotel on her own. The gentleman who showed me the room was sat doing a crossword and I disturbed him for the wifi password. Even though he was helpful enough to provide this I felt yhat I was intruding on his break and he said id i had any further problems to see the young girl running from the bar to reception. I later found out that the gentleman in question was the proprietor/owner/hotelier of the hotel. As a retired hotelier/landlord myself I would always be dressed in a shirt and tie whilst in the company of guests...but I guess thats just me. The evening menu was rather limited with options with only one special available. There seemed to more appealing starters than main courses and I decided to dine out. Access to the hotel was good and after a couple of hours i returned to the hotel to find that the bar and dining areas rather busy with the same receptionist young lady a young waitress and a gent behind the bar. The hotel was working on skeleton staff who were multitasking considerably to customer demands. The welcome pack tells room guestz that refreshments from the bar was available 24 hours however after going down later in the evening for a bottle of water but the only person who was available was a cleaner who could only provide me with a glass of tap water. There are some very nice pieces of antique furniture and artefacts and pictures around the hotel but the general tables and chairs in and around the bar area are tired looking and require updating. The staff are well mannered and courteous and work very hard to keep on top of things however I think the proprietor should be smarter in appearance and more hands on to help the staff if he is available. As a frequent traveller and all things considered i would look for an alternative place to stay in this town.
An historic old coaching inn with first class amenities. A hotel to recommend. Very limited parking spaces. Over flow car park some distance. Ideal for touring East Yorkshire. Handy for shoping on the doorstep. .
Good breakfast and convenient location for work, but the bed and pillows were very poor and made for a very uncomfortable night. This hotel is a bit quirky and different to more modern, bland hotels - but it needs freshening up and bring a little more up to date. I do not expect to be staying here again.
Having stayed at The Bell thirty years ago, and enjoying a pleasant stay in a dignified, smartish country hotel, we readily booked again when returning for a family funeral. The young female staff were faultless. The full English breakfast was good although the kippers I ate were almost sardine size. The decor and layout of this building is tatty, extremely dated and the overall impression is dismal. Our children shared a ground floor room and the bathroom's surprising level of grimness caused much hilarity. The furnishings particularly the armchairs looked like rejects from a poorly run care home. It was awful and the younger members of staff and the pleasant breakfast waitress are fighting a losing battle in this grim hostelry. We did not eat dinner there preferring instead to go to the delightful indian restaurant Muskan Spice, just around the corner.
Excellent throughout staff cheerful and helpful (nice touch taken to room not given vague instructions). We were celebrating a special (50years) anniversary, at dinner we were made to feel special, hearts on the table and best wishes from proprietor. At any time any reasonable request was fulfilled. Staff neatly dressed.
The Hotel is out of date. The rooms are Dated The bed is not comfortable. How Old ???? It is just out dated It is situated in the middle of the town the only good thing. Plenty of Bars and eating places in the vicinity.
Stayed here for two nights in Room 3. Before you start, if you're used to (and prefer) very polished, standardised purpose built hotels. The square box with an en-suite. All very modern with clean lines etc. then I wouldn't recommend here. That's not a criticism. But the Bell is old school. Creaking floorboards, chintzy and very old fashioned furniture, rough as you like around the edges, rammed with historical character and quirks galore. Walk in here and you're easily going back at least 50 years. If that's what you like, you're going to love it here! Not to say it isn't looked after. It may be dated but in the main it's clean and the staff are very helpful and accommodating. On our first evening I had been travelling and working a lot over the preceding few days and felt too tired even to go downstairs for dinner. We decided to order takeaway to eat in our room and the restaurant staff were happy to provide cutlery...even though it may have seemed an odd request! Our room was fairly hot, so we had the windows open all the time - bit of a security concern as other bedroom windows opened on to a fully enclosed flat roof area and anyone could walk out onto the roof and get in the neighbouring rooms - relatively unseen by anyone. I noticed all the bedroom windows were open so hot rooms seem to be prevalent making access even easier. Maybe a CCTV camera would solve the security issue? Also if you have children be careful with them going on the roof (our room had a door access to the roof), there are large Perspex rooflights which may not be safe to walk or stand on. Our room was above the restaurant WCs - with a soil pipe terminating close by and (when the wind was blowing in the wrong direction) meant the infrequent smell of drains every so often - not particularly pleasant but it's a problem that would easily be fixed by extending the pipe. Beds were reasonably comfortable and we slept reasonably well, but it's not all that quiet. There is a lot of external noise, be it passing footsteps in the corridor, plumbing noise or other mechanical whirrs, hums and bangs coming from all parts of the building. We also made use of the gym and spa. Gym is a very good size but equipment is a little dated. It's better than your average hotel gym which usually is pretty poor. Spa facilities are very good, though the pool is too small to do any serious swimming. We didn't have breakfast. In all I'd stay here again. It was by no means unpleasant though it could do with some tidying up at least...or a total refurb at most.
A hotel with character, with visible evidence of its historic past whilst offering modern amenities. The rooms we have had on two different have been spacious and individual. Despite being in the centre of town, there was no disturbance from traffic or pedestrians. The only comment I would make is that the public areas tended to be uncomfortably warm, but the room was light and airy.
Really interesting and really lovely old hotel - William Morris wallpaper all over the place - best full breakfast I've had for a long time. The hotel has a spa and pool but didn't have time to visit - but the whole place looks and feels very nice.
Four of us went to have lunch at this hotel yesterday and it was a very happy experience. I see that there are conflicting reviews about The Bell and must admit that I do not know what the bedrooms are like or if the beds are comfortable. I do know that the lunch we had was superb and the staff could not have been nicer and were very efficient. Drinks were brought to our table contrary to someone else's experience in these reviews and our guests were able to park with ease in the car park though, I have been told that it can sometimes be a nightmare! My husband and I parked in a different car park nearby which was free much to our surprise. I liked the 'old fashioned' feel of the hotel and felt it had great charm. Also, unlike someone else's experience, there were plenty of staff working and the dining rooms were full which is always a good sign. All four of us would definitely go back again.
We stayed here for a wedding and had breakfast in the morning and everything was perfect. The room was big and spacious with nice decor. The hotel and the area were quiet when we wanted to sleep. It was fine to come in from the wedding late as we just came in the back entrance.
I came up to Driffield for a college reunion so only slept there and had a quick breakfast. My room was beautifully furnished and was surprised to get a double being on my own. There were one or two repairs like the toilet seat which needed doing but I didn't have time to report them. The breakfast was fine.
We have booked a superior room expecting something a bit special. This was to have been a restful break, after health issues and not far from home in order to attend the next appointment. Alarm bells started to ring as we climbed the stairs . Each stair creaked and all the floor boards too. In the room the " separate siting area" was a very small uninviting space with dated furniture and smelling of damp. The bedroom was a dark and gloomy place. A mix of Victorian/ Edwardian furniture and 70's Sanderson style floral wallpaper, polyester bedding and no wi-fi signal. We went down for dinner at 7.15 and on being given the menus we attempted to order a drink and were asked to go to the bar ( in another room) to get it. After 15 mins we asked if we could order food only to be told there was a 45 min wait as " the dining room was busy". Not wanting to wait that long we decided to go to Weatherspoons just down the road where the basic pub grub was very good. The hotel had 2 girls workings the reception, the bar , making coffee and serving tables. They were absolutely working their socks off , dead on their feet yet amazingly pleasant and smiling. The night was hot and with very thin curtains that let in the light (including the hotels own illuminations) , poly bedding, no air con, traffic noise from the opened window and the neighbouring plumbing audible with every flush, it was far from a good nights rest. Breakfast was just "Ok" . Funny coloured scrambled eggs tho' and very poor coffee. There is very limited parking. I would reiterate that the two young women were doing their best and were very pleasant and helpful. Thank you. But there is obviously a management issue.
Stayed here for two nights to attend a function nearby. I found the car park easy to negotiate, in spite of other reviews saying it is tricky. The welcome was very warm and friendly and the building and decor full of character. The room was very clean and comfortable and I found the wifi efficient and easy to get. The bathroom was spotless, the water beautifully hot and bathroom products plentiful. The breakfast was good - excellent choice of continental breakfast - fresh fruit, cereal, etc, although the croissants had run out and the other Danish pastries looked past their best. I stuck with continental on day 2 however, after over cooked, tasteless poached eggs on day 1! Coffee quality a bit dubious although noticed you could upgrade for extra charge.....would expect good filter coffee as a given!? For those reasons, I fail to give 5 stars, but it would not prevent me choosing The Bell again, as I am happy enough with fruit, cereal and toast!
The Bell was the only hotel we could find within reasonable distance of a function we were attending otherwise we probably would not have booked it. We knew it was old but didn't realise how old fashioned it was. Our bedroom had an overpowering musty smell and the bathroom was incredible for all the wrong reasons. The floor was tiled with quarry tiles which looked decidedly grubby and because of the "wetroom" setup of the antiquated shower you had to paddle over a wet floor to the loo and sink. I also didn't like the fire door set up leading out of the bathroom to the outside. The only saving grace was the breakfast. Plenty of choice of Continental items or a cooked to order English which was hot and tasty. Staff were pleasant and obliging. Not exactly cheap for a 3 star hotel when we travelled on to our normal 4star hotel chain later which was about the same cost.
Stayed here for two nights as we were attending a wedding nearby. The hotel is a little tired and outdated but we have to say the staff are great. On the first night we slept very badly as the mattress was horrendous. The next morning I made a complaint to the reception staff and whilst having breakfast someone from housekeeping came and spoke to us to apologise and said they would replace the mattress that day and it was done after we had left for the wedding so we were not disturbed. Well done to them. The breakfast was very good and our room in all other respects was comfortable. There is limited parking and a spa but we didn't have time to use this. There is free wifi but unfortunately we were not able to access this as possibly we were not able to pick up the signal in our room.
Lovely hotel but the bed in room 8 was terrible. However friends in other rooms had normal one mattress beds, ours had two, which meant as my husband sat on it I was bounced off. Needless to say we didn't get much sleep. The breakfast and Spa were both excellent and the antiques throughout the hotel are wonderful.
As we were going to a wedding they let us have the room very early so we could get ready. The room was Very different as it had a spiral staircase up to the bedroom. Breakfast was good and the staff very helpful.
Very old fashioned and packed with character. Even creaky floors. A very big surprised. Took a while to get used to this place but lovely hotel. Staff were good, however watched lots of people behind the reception area not in any sort of uniform and i'm sure there is personal information about clients behind there. The only thing really I could say anything about was the bed which rattled every time I turned over, very annoying. Breakfast was amazing great service. Didn't have time to use the spa.
Two nights' stay at the Bell and hope to return ! Our room was large and spotless. Plenty of character in this hotel - although part of the BW group it has the feel of an independently run establishment. The management pay plenty of attention to detail, such as the presence of a very well stocked, comfortable and well- run bar and restaurant. We found hotel staff obliging and very friendly. Excellent breakfast, with continental pastries, good quality live yoghurt, freshly prepared fruit salad, plus cooked food to order ( we enjoyed porridge, kippers, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs ). Very centrally placed in Driffield and has spa / swimming facilities, too. Stayed 2 nights. Very good value for a weekend stay.
Stayed for one night for Edwina Hayes birthday concert. The staff were lovely and friendly. We were given an executive suite which was huge and unexpected and made our day. The hotel is very old and like a rabbit warren with rooms appearing here and there in different styles and with odd furnishings. So much more interesting than modern day hotels which are functional and nothing more. The spa is reached via long corridors in the hotel which seem to go on endlessly, good for steps on the Fitbit if you have one. The pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi are a welcome retreat again with lots of character and ambience. There is also a gym for the more energetic guest. We loved our stay here and would recommend it to anyone wanting a comfortable night in an interesting and unique 17th century hotel. Only downside the wifi wasn't great.
We had a two night stay at the Bell in Driffield. We checked in just before 5pm but the receptionist had left and a young girl told us she had just been told to give us the key. We had no details about the hotel so were unaware of any guest facilities we could use or the times they were open. Not the greatest way to start a weekend break. The hotel is quirky and old which was great but there were flies buzzing about in all the seating areas downstairs and at breakfast both mornings. Another couple came in to the breakfast room and make the same comment. The breakfast itself was good although we avoided anything uncovered. The hotel room itself was fine but the bathroom was a step up from the bedroom and the bath was at floor level – very strange – you step down into the bath to take a shower. Good job there was a handrail to get out. There were also two bathrobes hanging on the back of the door we assumed were to use if you went to the pool but they looked very off while/grey and well used. Not nice at all. The hotel is packed with antique furniture and pictures etc. and it was nice to see they were still being used. The car park is very tight as they have packed a lot of spaces into a small area and left no room for manoeuvre and was full most of the time. The spa & pool facilities are also used by none guests so also can be busy.
We had a pleasant stay in Driffield. and it was an easy base for trips to Bridlington . Whitby ,Scarborough, & Pickering..The food & service was excellant.. The hotel was old but well maintained & kept with traditional decor.. avery nice stay & very easy atmosphere,,,
The staff were a credit to the hotel very polite and accommodating, the spa facilities are totally unsuitable for disabled people. Not a ramp anywhere. The rooms were like something out of a Charles Dickens novel. The room we where allocated had a wet room that looked like it should have been condemned 50 years ago (Room 15) To use the toilet and other facilities you had to walk through a wet quarry tile floor that looked dirty. We were moved to another room (R 5)Which had odd tiles in the bathroom and paper peeling off the wall. No heating worked not even the towel rail The general appearance of the hotel was smelly with worn out and dirty bar furniture and lots of flies everywhere. The Owner has a Yellow Mercedes van which was parked in the disabled section of the car park occupying the only two disabled spaces. and when asked on two occasions was not moved
This hotel is over 250 years old. It's remarkable to consider that during those 250+ years it's past and present owners have totally failed to renovate it's superb character out of existence. I'm old enough to remember when all hotels were like this (or seemed to be). Sadly, most are gone now. The Bell Hotel has proudly preserved it's history. Everywhere there is fine furniture from an earlier age. When you unpack your suitcase you put your clothes away into a chest of drawers that, in other circumstances, would be in a museum - and you wouldn't be allowed to touch it. Some of the chairs in the dining room, are they original Hepplewhite? I hope so. The hotel has moved into the 21st century where it has to. There was a large and accommodating bathroom with an efficient shower. The Bell provides a car park but this, you feel, is done reluctantly and a little grudgingly. You are left with the impression that it would prefer that you arrive in a horse drawn coach. Lastly the staff: without exception they were excellent. They were friendly and efficient.
The Bell is 250 years old and the decor in the public areas is testament to this. We enjoyed Capuchinno, with scones and jam £1.95, but more importantly delicious. It so happened that this was market day, Thursday, and it was wall to wall people. We were staying for several days as we searched for a new home. The staff were so kind to us, offering a little advice and could not do enough to take care of us! Our breakfasts were well cooked and delicious, rather like our evening meals. A great place to stay. PS we are making a new home here the people are just lovely.
Having been a coach house since the 1700's the bell has a wealth of character. And reminds one of an old fashioned pub, the way a pub should be. The smell of centuries old beer and cigars, people and horses, food, wine and wood blends into an amazing aroma that beats any modern air conditioning..creaky floorboards, doors and windows. That may be my only niggle. .the old sash windows in room 11 rattled and banged all night in a gentle wind. Other than that I can't fault the bell. Thanks for great night..see you again soon
Have been to the Bell previously the mattresses have been renewed and the rooms spruced up, the hotel is very olde world with lots of antiques and curios dotted around, always find the staff excellent and very helpful, the breakfasts are really good and all in all a very relaxing stay. Only real negative ,the car park is quite pokey.
Had a 3 night short break here two weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Everything creeks but that adds to the character in an old building. Had dinner one night and the food was excellent with generous portions. Very good breakfast which included real fried bread.Nice bar to relax in with friendly atmosphere. Staff most helpful and friendly. Only complaint was the creeky bed.
dirty and torn bed linen horrible food some staff courteous, some not, questionable management questionable billing practices uncomfortable bed noisy and cold bedroom dirty swimming pool terrible breakfast
Come to the Bell so often over the last few years for family get togethers but tonight was really disappointing. Came for a meal with my partner, my mum, dad and my grandma. We waited about half an hour to be served drinks as the bar was busy it being a Saturday night and a pre-booked party was in but yet there was only one member of staff serving at the bar!!! We finally got our drinks and sat down ordered our food which also took a while for orders to be taken. We waited over an and our food still hadn't arrived we asked where it was and told its taking a while as there's a big party in, which surely they would have had booked in and been able to plan extra staff for?!! After being promised 5 more minutes for our food it came after about another 20. Food was nice but not sure it was worth that long wait. Waited another 20 minutes or so at the bar for drinks after. Funny though that they were quick to bring our bill across without us asking for it and no discount for the abysmal service!
My hubby and I stayed for 1 night. We had a lovely room with a nice big bathroom. It was nice to have a full size tv and 2 arm chairs we could move to watch it, rather than having to sit on the bed. The breakfast the next morning was very generous and we'll cooked.
We very much enjoyed a two night stay recently. The Bell has plenty of history and character. All staff were friendly and polite. Breakfasts were well presented and very good. We also had two evening meals which were also very good. The superior room we had was comfortable and spacious.
Me and my sister spent the day here and really enjoyed ourselves!! 5/5 for the spa, staff where great, facilities where good (toilets a little dated) and the food was lovely!! Unfortunately someone hit my car in the tiny car park! The parking is very very tight, we are not familiar with Driffield and we didn't know there was alternative parking either. I would recommend the spa to anyone!! Just be careful in the car park :)
Booked a one night stayover at the Bell in Driffield, what a great stay . The room was great, I think it was the bridal suite, we went down to the pool area, the jacuzzi was out of order but we were allowed to use the super spa which was brilliant, along with the pool & sauna. The staff were great, early check in, arranged taxis etc, nothing too much trouble, in the morning the breakfast was lovely, a great experience.
I was bought a Spa Day as a Christmas present, and it was lovely treat. I arrived with my friend just after 10am, we had coffee and used the swimming pool, then the sauna then into the spa room with water jets and Jacuzzi. Then did it all again! It was all rounded off by a back, should and neck massage a bit later in the afternoon. We left about 3pm to go for a bite of lunch and a coffee on the high street. If you want to treat a friend and spend a couple of hours chatting and catching up in a relaxed atmosphere, I would highly recommend. The only improvement I could suggest was for the spa to keep a couple of 'open appointments' for the spa users to treat themselves to unplanned treatments, I would have loved to go in the mud bath, but sadly it was fully booked out.
Fantastic spa day. Morning coffee with scones, cream and jam. Private use of "superspa" including rhassoul. Exclusive use of saunarium. Free to use sauna, steam room, pool and jacuzzi at leisure. Wonderful little day room for own use too, complete with ample tea and coffee with kettle - use as much as you want. Lovely lunch with wine included. Staff wonderful, helpful and attentive without being obtrusive. Beautifully decorated and rustic, it is in the old cellars of the building. Candles everywhere giving lovely ambience. As much fresh, bottled water as you want and plentiful supply of dry gowns and towels. Changing rooms being modernised at moment but that was no problem to us. Would be good if there was a spin dryer for swim suits and maybe slippers too. All in all, a brilliant day. Many thanks to Louise and Annabelle for their kind help throughout the day.
Called into the Bell for lunch in the restaurant which is more expensive than the bar but nicer surroundings. The atmosphere was good and we got our food 10 minutes after ordering. Beef was fantastic, separate vegs very tasty, overall a very good Sunday Lunch. Cost around £12 for two courses, All home cooked and delicious.
We live in Driffield, but have never been to the Bell before for Sunday Lunch so decided to give it a try and we are very glad we did. The food was excellent, I had Roast Beef and my husband had Roast Pork. My big test for a decent Sunday lunch is the Yorkshire puddings. The Bell's Yorkshires are excellent! The meat was cut from a joint, the gravy delicious, the vegetables very nice. For pudding I had treacle and sponge and custard, Delicious, couldn't fault it. My husband had the cheeseboard. You just went up to a table an helped yourself, his only critisism was the selection of cheeses. There was no Wensleydale! There was a very nice blue cheese though that made up for it. He would also have liked to know the names of the cheeses. We had a cup of excellent coffee and after dinner mint to finish. This is included in the very reasonable price. The decor is lovely, its not been spoiled. The dining room is perfect, the whole of the building is beautiful. Homely, and in keeping with the exterior. Love the William Morris wallpaper in the conservatory area and comfy chairs. I hope it never changes The staff were polite and helpful and we will certainly be going back again. I can't recommend it highly enough.
The oldest part of the hotel was built in 1730. The floors squeak, the hallways meander. It does have modern amenities and a good restaurant and pub. The best for miles around. I enjoyed my week long stay.
My wife and I popped in here for a quick bite to eat at lunch time in early December 2015..This was our first visit here and as soon as we entered we sensed we were in a place with a history. The décor and fittings reflecting days gone by with oak wood panelling and brass fittings. I had ham sandwiches with side salad and a few chip wedges whilst my wife had ploughmans sandwiches and side salad. The ham was delicious, not the 'plastic sweating ' type often served up these days. The cheese in my wifes lunch was very tasty. A quick walk around the various lounges gave me a chance to feel the cosiness of the Hotel. I spoke with the family owners who were most polite and helpful. The dining room being very commendable. We look forward to visiting again when in the area.
a lovely lovely hotel. All staff were so friendly helpful and could not do enough for you.Real Ale excellent so was the food. Room was so so good and lovely and warm. my partner and i are so looking forward to go back.
I have stayed here a few times and have had great service on each occasion. The hotel is very old and the furniture and deco match it's age. I love the old furniture and my 4 poster bed, it is all about the character and history. There is a pool and gym and breakfast is very good. I loved the salmon and eggs.
This is my second visit to this place. I just love the way you step back in time as this place is 100's of years old. I stayed in room 19 this time and had a 4 poster bed along with some very old furniture. When I say old furniture. I do not mean old and tacky but old and interesting. I loved reading the information about the hotel and that my room was used for woman and children to wait in while the men had a drink at the bar. You can almost imagine these people in your room. I did not eat this time or visit the spa as I fell asleep on both nights after getting in from work, however I have eating here before and the food was great. My colleague did eat in the evening and said it was one of the best meals she had for a long time. At breakfast I had salmon and eggs and I have to say that it is the best smoked salmon I have ever had. I would recommend this place to anyone.
The car park is accessible at the back of the hotel. It is small and beware of the little walls so you avoid a prang! Our room was no 17 on the first floor, not a flat wall or a level floor in sight. There is a lift if required. The first room contained a desk, sofa, a cupboard and 2 old Victorian box commodes! (not working but just part of the olde worlde décor). Down a step and there was a very high bed with a canopy. This was very comfortable once you had climbed up! This room had an easy chair, wardrobe, TV and a cupboard. Tea and coffee making facilities and ironing board and iron were in the wardrobe. On the left was the bathroom and the toilet beyond that. The bathroom suite was an eye catching green with a larger than average bath and overhead shower. The taps on the basin were abit odd as the cold tap turned the wrong way but it worked and that was fine. The room was at the front of the hotel and looked out on to the main street. This was noisy at times when the window was open but if you want a quieter room I am sure you could ask for a room at the back. This hotel has a spa facility accessed down some steps in a separate building through the car park. The pool is small but ok for a gentle swim and the Jacuzzi is warm and quite spacious. There is also a steam room and other facilities should you want them. The ladies changing room is downstairs and difficult to find but I was taken there by one of the staff, finding my way out was more difficult. Lockers require a £1 coin but tokens were available. Showers were large and quite powerful and toiletries were provided. However I couldn't find bags for soggy swim wear so take an extra towel or plastic bag. As we were resident we partook of the free towels. Breakfast was very good. Cereals and fresh fruit and juices available followed by a cooked to order breakfast. Tea, coffee and toast also served. All the staff were polite and welcoming. We would definitely visit again.
Frist visit to the Driffield Spar we came for a day of relaxation and pamper and was not disappointed The whole experience from start to finish was wonderful The staff were very helpful and friendly nothing was too much trouble We both had a facial that was amazing We both left feeling well and truly chilled out We will definitely be back very soon
Normally staying in the large chain hotels, the Bell is a rather refreshing change. It is a bit old fashioned, some may say dated in parts, but to me this adds to the charm of the place. All the rooms are different, in comparison to most modern hotels very spacious. Everything is clean and the beds comfy. The food at the Hotel is good, great selection of local beers and a frankly astonishing selection of Malts. Staff were attentive and helpful. Wifi was fast and reliable (and free!!).
I like the unique, unspoiled, old-fashioned feel. Oak Panelling in the bar, William Morris print wallpaper. Service is with a smile. Food OK with plenty of choices. Vegetables were plentiful and not overcooked. We didn't have a pudding or a starter. We often visit for morning coffee and a scone.
I have been to the spa at The Bell several times now, and it seems to get better every time. The staff are attentive but not intrusive. The spa itself is lovely - it's underground so a bit lacking in daylight but still a very pleasant environment. One of the nicest things about the spa at The Bell is how quiet it is - it's not unusual to have the place to yourself during the day in the week. And the use of the Super Spa is always exclusive, which is lovely. I also very much enjoyed the Rassul mud experience. I didn't have any treatments this time, but have in the past and they have always been fantastic. Finally, the only thing which previously I felt let it down a little was the quality and availability of the food and drink, but this time they were both of a really high standard and much easier to get! The prices of The Bell are definitely cheaper than comparable places for spa days. Overall - highly recommended, I'll definitely be going back again.
Another wonderful spa break at the Bell Hotel, Driffield. All staff welcoming and attentive, especially in the Spa. The food in the restraunt was excellent as usual. The spa break package is certainly good value, would recommend this place to anyone.
Rooms were old and tired. Breakfast was dubious - not even an option to have spread with your toast instead of butter ! Staff were helpful enough, but few and far between when I stayed. Good to have parking on site,
We went to The Bell for a birthday dinner. The restaurant atmosphere was perfect, and the food was good quality and nicely presented. The whole hotel exudes the historic charm of its period, its setting, and what you might expect from the main hostelry in a small market town. Of course it is unpretentious, and it will only be ruined if any clumsy modernisation is attempted. There is very little wrong with The Bell, and it would be a big risk for someone to barge in and turn it into an anodyne copy of one of the big chain groups. Character places are so few and far between these days. .
We stayed at the Bell Hotel for one night as we were going to a golden wedding party. Arriving there the receptionist asked if we minded a spiral staircase. We said not really so she took us to our room, down in the basement, which smelt damp and of drains. She took us into our room where there was a spiral staircase going up to the bed, the bathroom down below!!!!! Said we couldn't stay there too dangerous getting up I. The night to use the bathroom and falling down the slippery spiral staircase.
A very warm & friendly welcome. Staff very helpful , Yvonne on Reception Couldn't do enough to make you feel at home your made to feel like a guest not a room number was only there for one night but would highly recommend this hotel Breakfast was good and tasty and plenty of tea and coffee Full of old world charm glad to see hotels like this still around
This hotel just exudes "Olde Worlde " charm!! Lots of of original features have been retained. On arrival we were greeted in a friendly and efficient manner, and were shown to our room, with an offer to carry our bags!! This does not happen a great deal these days!!! Our room was comfortable and spacious. Breakfast was excellent ,with a very wide ranging choice. The service was first rate.
