Stayed here while we attended a wedding reception at a nearby golf club...room was spacious and clean the bed was only a double so found it a bit small but then again all bed are small compared to our super king..staff where friendly and helpful breakfast was fine although paid for 4 but 2 could only manage coffee(hang over) would definitely stay there again if in the area

"So much better than expected for the price"

Had difficulty finding a moderately priced hotel for the weekend to visit Chatsworth and Hardwick Hall. The price was more than competitive and I was swayed by the reviews. Although the hotel is not 'Characterful' it is well appointed. The staff are excellent and very friendly but not in a pushy way. The rooms we had were large and well designed and spotlessly clean. Always a bonus these days to arrive and find coffee making facilities on the room. Reception very helpful and organised taxi to restaurant. Breakfast was good though they were short staffed, however they weee more than competent and went about their work cheerfully and helpfully. We had specified river view rooms. On all honesty the river view was not spectacular but did mean we were not subject to traffic on the main road. If I was to visit this area again I would have no hesitation in booking again. Don't be put off by the low price it is certainly not a 'cheap' hotel.

Very large room but as with many hotels bathroom could do with a renovation. Had dinner which was very good and breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice. Couldn't quite work out how to enter the hotel car park due to barrier.

Thank you for making the time to post your review following your recent stay. Thank you too for your very positive comments, particularly about dinner and breakfast. All feedback is appreciated and we have noted your comments regarding the barrier to the car park. We find that our guests appreciate the added security offered by the barrier, which opens automatically to allow entry. It does, however, require a code to allow exit which, for security reasons, is changed on a regular basis. The exit code is given to guests when they check-in to the hotel. Thank you for choosing to stay at the Sandpiper Hotel. We hope to have the opportunity of welcoming you on a future occasion.

"Group celebration lunch"

We have been going here for many years but this time was not enjoyable. The only good point s - the portions of food were generous & one of the 2 waitresses was pleasant & helpful. We had to ask for a bread basket & when it was brought I buttered a slice of a french stick & bit into it & found it tasted stale. On closer inspection I could see green mould. .The waitress just took it away with a reluctant 'Sorry' - no replacement was offered & no deductions were made to the bill.. Later that evening I was very nauseous & sick but whether this was due to the mouldy bread or other food I'd eaten (whitebait & fish pie) I can't say. I shall not be returning there in the near future!

Dear Christine S We are obviously disappointed to read your review but surprised that, in view of the long standing relationship we have with your group, you have chosen to express your views on a public website rather than discuss them with us directly. Nevertheless, all feedback is appreciated and your comments have been noted. Whilst responding, we would like to use the opportunity to thank your party for the gratuities left for the staff on duty and would like to thank your organiser for the telephone call expressing her appreciated for the fact that we did not charge for the member of your party who cancelled at short notice after her meal had been pre-ordered and prepared by our kitchen staff.

"more than adequate"

Stayed here one night in October on business trip. Bed comfy, shower good, all clean, just as needed for an overnight stay - suspect rooms at front might be a bit noisier than at back, as its close to a main road. Carpark can get packed too but survivable. All in all a good business stopover. p.s. reception staff - PLEASE cheer up - talk about miserable and surly, both the more senior lady in the evening AND the younger girl in the morning !!

"Great stay, good breakfast too."

All the staff we encountered were friendly, helpful and efficient. Room was a good size and clean, with a view of trees from the window rather than the road. Tea, coffee, milk, sugar and biscuits available in your room. Only slight down side was that it would have been nice to have a larger bed, we are used to a king and this one seemed like a small double. Breakfast was very good, a choice of fruit, cereals, pastries and yoghurts, toast with varied spreads, and a full cooked breakfast too, accompanied by either tea or coffee and choice of two fruit juices. Would definitely recommend and would book again if we needed to stay in the area another time.
