« not great, but good - will choose a different hotel in the future »

This was a DECENT stay. Not exceptional. To be more specific.... I stayed 4 nights. not a single employee here stands out as above and beyond. No one was overly pleasant, if pleasant at all. The bare minimum from any employee is what we received. If you are a Diamond Best Western member, don't expect an upgrade or a bottle of water. Yes, the individual Best Western can choose to offer these or not. The breakfast - meh. This was quite possibly the WORST continental breakfast at Best Western I have ever had. Seriously. I arrived at breakfast at 7:40 am, the gravy wouldn't even soften the biscuit. The sausage was more like beef jerky - it was almost completely dehydrated and the oatmeal is PREMADE with a film on it. Maybe consider the packets and let us make our own. One of the other patrons said there were pancakes, I have no idea - they were not replenished. I sat at a table for 25 mins and not one employee spoke to me. I watched 3 employees stand next to the doorway of the in/out kitchen entrance and chat with one another. There were 2 other tables with occupants. (Obviously not very busy). You are given breakfast coupon/vouchers that you turn in to someone. I wouldn't know....NO ONE EVER SPOKE TO ME. Day 4 - I stopped and fed my family breakfast elsewhere. We needed sustenance. :) Oddly enough, no one ever told us about the thanksgiving meal in the restaurant so we didn't get to enjoy the traditional meal. Seems like someone/anyone who works here would have mentioned it. my room was cleaned every day and it was cleaned well. No complaints. The bed was comfortable. There are several ice machines throughout and easily accessible and work. the WIFI works well. There is coffee in the lobby that you can access. The showers have decent pressure. The location is great and within a couple of miles of anything.

    « Very nice »

It's quiet and comfortable. The king room we stayed in had a unique, pleasing design. The restaraunt was wonderful, and they have a hot breakfast. They are also pet friendly. We will definitely stay there next time we're in Carlsbad.

    « Won't stay here again. »

This hotel had no hot water and would not address the issue, said they couldn't make it hot for safety reasons. Front desk staff was horrible. I stay at many hotels during the year on business and most of them are Best Western, but I will not stay here again.

    « Highly Recommend »

Very clean, spacious and comfortable rooms. The staff was great. A newly employed young lady ( unfortunately I am unable to remember her name) checks us in, she was uncertain if she properly applied our Best Western Rewards. After check in, she researched and found everything applied correctly and made a point to inform us. Not everyone would have done that. Just proves BW employees are there to serve their customers!

    « Older, "motel" type »

This is an older "motel" type Best Western. The good is that it was clean and the room was huge. There were a lot of oil field workers staying there. That doesn't bother me, but some folks may get turned off by a lot full of muddy pick up trucks snd dusty oil workers staying there. As others have mentioned, only one ice machine worked. The staff was friendly and the breakfast nice and hot.

    « good trip!!! »

Hotel was great, good location, speedy check in, breakfast was good, had issues with internet and when reported to front desk wasn't able to help me with y issues. But all in all it was a good trip!!!

    « vacation »

Very large hotel, has multiple units. We were in an older room. Very large and clean. Beds were very comfortable. On the main road so easy in and out. Breakfast was not very well organized when we went. Hot food was tepid, no ladle for oatmeal, coffee urns were consistently empty. Noted quite a few staff sitting around a table in room next to us while one young lady was trying to get the work done. Overall was a comfortable stay but cost more than it should have.

    « Enjoyable overnight stay »

We stayed at this hotel one night on our way to Carlsbad Caverns. The room was very large and comfortable. We were able to get a room that was a one story which proved to be very quiet. The bed was comfortable and we both slept well. The breakfast was a pleasant surprise- a hot breakfast buffet with pancakes, eggs, sausage, ham and biscuits with gravy. The hot oatmeal was good and they offered several toppings with it. There were also waitresses to bring you beverages. The restaurant served a good soup and salad bar that we had the night before. We were very happy with our choice of this hotel.

    « Good local motel »

Best Western Stevens Inn is a bit quaint, but well run and clean. Rooms are up to date and a good multi choice hot breakfast buffet is included. It is about 15 miles to Carlsbad Caverns NP. Walmart is just down the street.

    « Great Find! »

The staff was friendly and offered helpful information. The room was large, clean, and bright. The beds were extremely comfortable and luxurious feeling. The area was quiet and pleasant. The TV was a little small for the size of the room, and there were not that many channel selections, but this was barely a minor inconvenience. We appreciated being able to park right in front of our room. And the dinner at the restaurant was so delicious and such a great deal, especially the $4 salad bar! A great find, and the best hotel experience for our entire 3-week road trip where we stayed at 12 Best Westerns across the country.

« Great place to stay »

Nice, Motel style, ( which I prefer). We like parking directly in front of room. Spacious, clean rooms. Have stayed here 3 times this year. Reataurant/breakfast a definite plus. Large, spacious dining area.

    « Dinner »

Fantastic! Ate here twice so far. Lissa fabulous waitress ! Ribeye cooked perfectly, substituted asparagus for mixed vegetables with no problem. Salad bar loaded with choices. Dessert choices are different - pistachio cake. Defiantly will return.

« Very Nice Place to Stay »

Very happy with price, cleanliness, quality of restaurant and the staff at the hotel. Friendly, helpful employees that seemed to genuinely care about the job they were there to do. I will be back to stay again.

    « Last minute »

One night stay on our way to Carlsbad Caverns. Quick & easy check in, friendly staff, spacious room, good A/C, shower & breakfast. Comfortable beds, good area with food options. would definitely stay again

    « Nice Hotel -- Good Location »

Stevens Inn is a nice larger mostly single story hotel within a 30 minute drive of Carlsbad Caverns. It is an "older" 1970 style and appears to have been increased in size a number of times. The rooms are modern, large, clean with large beds and new flat screen TVs. They had a very nice breakfast the morning we ate there including home-made pancakes with warm maple syrup, fresh scrambled eggs and all the other normal breakfast items (toast, cereal, juices, etc) and lots of coffee. We ate dinner in their very nice modern restaurant and had a wonderful prime rib dinner with baked potato and a trip to the soup and salad bar. The service was friendly and the food was excellent. This is a great motel for an overnight stay with a nice restaurant, large bar, and free breakfast.

« Best Western Stevens Inn »

The folks here are very friendly, professional, and guest focused. What a treat. Carlsbad is a wonderful little town. The rooms are comfortable and so quiet. Facility has all the special areas, pool, fitness center. dinner, lounge, full hot breakfast too. thank you

« The place to Stay »

We had an excellent experience at this hotel. The room was very nice and comfortable. Best of all was the first rate restaurant. The food was very good, moderately priced, with very good service. It was pleasant to have a good meal while we could visit.

« An excellent place to stay »

All things considered an excellent hotel with helpful staff, clean rooms, acceptable breakfast, accessible location. The breakfast could be improved. The hotel remains quite busy with high occupancy. Will stay here again.

« An older but nice motel »

It is an older one story but nice motel. Renovation has been in process at this motel. The owners appear to have a love for the place and are trying to keep it a nice place to stay. The free breakfast seemed almost like being in a restaurant. The staff were very friendly. They have a lounge which we did not use. The motel and parking area are spread out. Parking is right out your room door. A good place to stay if spending a day at Carlsbad Caverns. We thought the price was a little high for the place but there are not many choices in Carlsbad. If we would visit Carlsbad Caverns again we would consider staying here again.

    « restful stay »

The room I stayed in has the appearance of a high-end or luxury hotel without the high price. I would recommend this motel to anyone who is looking for a nice, clean place to stay. They always provide an excellent full breakfast which when you consider what other hotels' consider full breakfast it doesn't compare to the quality of this motel.

    « Overall Great Experience-Renovations very Nice-No Hot Water »

Overall we love Best Western. They are doing renovations that are very nice inside the rooms. Large rooms were really nice. Because of the renovations we had only luke warm water at best and the sink faucet was not tightened down at all. The Breakfast staff were very friendly as well as the check in staff and it was nice to have a lounge to have a drink at after hiking all day at Carlsbad Caverns. Overall very positive and I would recommend staying with Best Western at Carlsbad.

    « Grandma trip »

Visited this best western after a day at the caverns. The hotel was standard, in way of rooms, although it did have a kitchen with stove and oven. The televisions were nice and big, clean did not see and thing nasty I would complain about. It is very large hotel ground and you cau park your vehicle in front of your room. I did not find an elevator so had to lug the luggage up the stairs, when I really missed my husband, sorry honey. The front desk was very friendly and helpful, the restaurant was very good sit down dinner with a bar. The place had laundry and pool that we did not use, and breakfast was better then just yogurt and carbs. Actually had sausage and was able to order bacon. Not a bad place yes I would stay again.

« Motel is a bit dated, but rooms are nice with good beds »

Stayed here for one night when visiting the caverns. The lobby, bar and restaurant are bit dated, but the rooms were nice. The room had Newer TV and beds. The bathroom was a bit small and needed some updating, but we were there to sleep and it was a nice quiet room. The motel worked great for us as we had a lot of stuff that we didn't want to leave in the car and we were able to back right up to our room and unload.

    « Heat issues »

They are currently doing renovations. We were in the building right next to the pool, which has not been renovated. The ceiling tiles are paper thin, there is no insulation on the ceiling. Even though the AC ran on full power all day, it was unbearably hot in there, like a sauna. After complaining, they moved us on a first floor room in the renovated building. It was insulated, no issues here. Comfy beds, everything was clean and it was nice and cool during a hot summer night. Breakfast was good, too. If you stay here, make sure you ask to be put into one of the updated rooms. Would stay here again.

    « When In Carlsbad.... »

I stay at Stevens Inn Carlsbad, NM every time. Great people plus a BAR and Restaurant built right in! It's an OASIS. If you're passing through, or visiting Carlsbad Caverns, which is amazing, you can't go wrong with this Best Western Hotel.

« OK, but not great »

We chose this place after checking the prices of other places in town. It is older, motel style, but clean and well maintained. The person who checked us in was not very friendly, but all of the rest of the staff were nice. The bed was comfortable, the room was huge. The breakfast had a good selection, and real dishes and utensils, but a few of the items were dry and over-cooked. The only really annoying thing was the refrigerator in the room was unplugged, which we did not notice, so our stuff got warm.

« Over Night in Carlsbad »

We called from Carlsbad Caverns at 5 PM to get a room so we could stay for a 7 PM bat sighting. We were able to get a room so we were able to stay and enjoy the show. The hotel was OK for one night. We had a few problems, like no ice in the closest ice machine (which required a room key to use) and a problem with the reservation. Overall our stay was good, although I did find other options in Carlsbad as we were driving thru town when leaving.

    « Great Breakfast! »

Only problem here was the small dog that barked in the room next to us every time we opened or closed the door. Other than that our experience here was great. Wonderful breakfast. Would definitely stay again if in the area.

« Good choice if visiting caves »

We stayed with several small kids. They loved pool. It's an older style motel, but interior of rooms were nice and not dated. Seems to be a mix of families on vacation and oil workers. On site restaurant was slow but decent. Only negatives are maid didn't return to clean room even though we took down do not disturb sign by 9:00 am. And giant thick pillows as only option is not cool, they should at least put one thinner pillow in the room in my opinion. But for the money, location and pool, it's not a bad choice.

« A very lovely hotel--popular place so price is high. »

Carlsbad is a very popular tourist destination so hotel prices were high but this is a lovely hotel and run very nicely. Our room was super big, quiet and very comfortable. Very well furnished. Breakfast was much better than average and the girls in the breakfast room were particularly kind and efficient. Our stay was a real pleasure in spite of a water stopage for a few hours.

« Road Trip to New Mexico »

It was great-it was nice it was comfortable it was refreshing it was the absolute best it was 115 degrees outside we were happy to be there don't know if I can fit 200 characters in this review to satisfy the computer I will give it a try...Am I there yet ?

    « Carlsbad Caverns »

If you are going to the cave, consider this hotel at the right end of town to decrease the distance to travel to the cave. Try to reserve a room in the newer building as these rooms are bigger and nicer. An excellent value!

    « Clean! »

I hesitated to stay here from viewing online but actually, this is a great value. Continental breakfast is standard but breakfast bar is kept spotless. Rooms spotless. Indoor pool. Owner is very nice. Check-In is simple. Convenient to downtown. I would say if you are on a budget this is perfect. Bed slept great, everything felt clean, which is the most important. Not real close to the caves, not too far either though.

    « Great Hotel »

I will not go to any other hotel but Best western, they have the best service and professional staff i have ever seen or experienced with. Rooms are very clean and the service excellent. No complaints from me! GREAT HOTEL.

« All You Could Ask For! »

Just checked in a few hours ago and must say I am MORE than satisfied! The price is extremely reasonable, our room has recently been remodeled, it's quite, fast WiFi, and all of this for a suite with a kitchenette and separate sleeping area. Definitely the best value we have had on this vacation. Can't say enough great things about it! You cannot go wrong! I promise!!

« Older Property, Up to Date Rooms »

This is an older property with 1 and 2 story rooms with exterior doors. It is spread out over a relatively large area of land, but the hotel is in very good condition, and the rooms are up to date. The landscaping is also pretty good; nothing has been neglected.

    « It's Like Visiting Good Friends »

This was my fourth stay at the Inn and as before it was just wonderful. The room was immaculate and the staff kept it that way for the 5 days we were there. They were remodeling some of the units but it didn't cause any problems at all and the workers were as polite as can be. Every morning we had a great hot breakfast buffet with eggs, home fries, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, sausage, sweet rolls, yogurt, orange juice, milk, great coffee and more. We all enjoyed the pool area too which is kept spotless. This is a great motel to stay at and if I had any complaint it would be that we couldn't stay longer. My wife and I love this place and our grandkids even talked about how much they liked the Inn. I have stayed at MANY hotels and motels and none were better than Steven's Inn Best Western. I have recommended this Inn to others and none have been disappointed. You won't be either.

    « Great Stay! »

The room was wonderful plus they have a lovely restaurant. The room was very spacious, the beds comfortable, and we even got a double sink. Service was wonderful, I would definitely stay again and recommend it to friends and family.

    « Okay Stay »

The rooms were clean. The outside pool was nice. The free breakfast should have more options. It was easy to locate stores and easy access to the main road to see the sights, like Carlsbad Caverns. The wifi speed was very slow it was faster to use my data. The price was great. They are doing remodeling to the rooms.

    « great stay »

went for a weekend was nice pool was nice beds are super comfortable!! would recommend people to stay here one of the nicer hotels in Carlsbad with a more decent price range all in all great stay! also its located on the same road to the caverns so just 30 minute straight drive!!

« Great stay when visiting the caverns »

We stayed at the Best Western Stevens Inn after visiting Carlsbad Caverns. The room was very nice, clean, updated and welcoming. We could not have been more pleased. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast included was a full breakfast menu including eggs, sausage, pancakes, cereal, homemade oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, pastries and more. I am happy we chose this hotel, family friendly and very nice. Stay here when you visit Carlsbad.

« Best Western for Carlsbad Cavern Family Vacation »

Clean rooms, very friendly and helpful front desk staff. Had the free breakfast buffet and the wait staff was all very nice and efficient. Breakfast food was what you'd expect for free. Hot and plentiful, scrambled eggs were like popcorn, but everything else was good. Wi/Fi is not secure, but is free.

« Clean, Great Service and Great Value! »

While in NM for an extended stay, my niece and two great nieces decided to visit Carlsbad Caverns for a short weekend stay from July 15-17. I chose Steven's Best Western based upon a recommendation from a friend, and I was not disappointed. Upon checking in, I quickly realized that I made reservations for the following week; however, the desk staff assured me that they could accommodate us now and for the same rate. The rooms were nicely appointed, large and updated and clean. The entire staff that we encountered during our stay were always kind and courteous. The pool was fantastic and heated which made it a joy for the great nieces to swim in as well as for the adults. The complementary breakfast bar had plenty to choose from; however, there were no gluten free options. The last night of our stay, we decided to eat at the restaurant on site. The food was ok; however, the service was above expectation.

    « My vacation getaway »

This was more like an apartment complex. Work out room was way on the other side and you had to walk outside to get to it. Temperature was 110. The ice machines rarely worked and you would have to take a stroll to find another. The breakfast made it all better!!! Scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausage, biscuits and gravy, yogurt, fresh fruit!!!

« Just a LITTLE pissed off about my stay.....keep reading »

I am a Best Western Rewards member with Diamond status. I stay in a LOT of BW's all over the Southern USA for work and I make this review based on years of being on the road 250+ days/year. That said, keep reading. OK, this is an older, well used, well maintained property. It is quite a bit larger than I had thought at first look. The staff I encountered was very friendly....almost TOO friendly but that is better than the other side of that coin. The one thing about the room--very clean and well tended-- that I had is that because of the placement of the furniture, it is IMPOSSIBLE to see the TV when seated at the 'desk' which could EASILY be fixed with 5 minutes of moving things around. The AC was set at 60* the entire time I was there and almost didn't make it when temps hit 110* outside. The restaurant which I didn't eat at because of the 0_o PRICES......I wouldn't pay $22 for a plate of spaghetti unless it had GOLD nuggets in it. NOW, the rest of the story.....I booked my room online on Saturday to arrive on Sunday for 3 nights, but got held up on the jobsite and called to make sure I could get the room on Monday morning, early. I was told "No problem, just come on in and we'll take care of you." I do NOT know what happened, but my debit card was charged $500(pending), $120.xx, $500(pending), and $330.xx(pending) which THEY tried to tell me was MY bank/credit union which is NOT POSSIBLE according to my credit union and THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE IN ALL MY MANY-MANY STAYS AT BEST WESTERNS all over the USA. So these 'pending' charges HAD to originate at the source. SO.....I at this posting, still have $1330.xx locked up in 'pending charges' on my debit card for a stay that I shortened to 2 nights due to this BS. THIS and one other BW are the ONLY 2 BW's that I will NEVER stay at again, this property because of this 'pending charge' issue. I cannot have over $1000 tied up because I want to stay at a motel a couple nights. This really makes me MAD.

    « Visiting the Caverns »

Gave 1 star because the "guardian" at the lounge entrance required ID for me to enter. I'm a white haired 65 year old grandmother! I had to walk back to room in 108° heat to get ID. Ridiculous!! Never had this happen before. Decided I didn't need that drink afterall. Room was just fine and amenities were good...

    « Summer vacation »

Room is very clean and well equipped and a good choice to relax in comfort after spending a day in the caverns. The price is affordable for a family on a budget. Having said that, the front desk staff could use some assistance in customer service, she was either tired or just lack people's skills but being fair the hotel was a good choice to stay during this vacation.

    « Very cozy hotel »

The hotel room was very clean, and it smell good. The swimming pool was not very deep, but it was clean and fun. One of the best things was the breakfast buffet, they have different options, and they even had almond milk. The staff was nice.

    « Little Home »

The rooms décor was like a small house and very cute .Very nice people . The pool was well kept , the whole place was delightful just like vacation should be .We stayed at Williams Railway Hotel . We are now only BW all the way .

« Good solid stay for a good value »

I can't really say anything negative about this stay. It was solid and was a good value compared to the other properties in the area. It's an older property but it had all the essentials. We enjoyed our stay here.

« Nice hotel on the "Visitors" end of town. »

The hotel is a huge property. It has several different types of rooms. Some rooms are single story "motel" like rooms and then other parts of the hotel are more hotel like, in that it is two stories. Our room had two different rooms, a bedroom and then a living room/dining room combination room. It was a non smoking room but smelled of smoke. Not so bad that we had to move out. The beds were fine, not the best but okay for a good nights sleep. The restaurant at the hotel is very good. We had lunch and breakfast and both were delicious. The hotel is close to Carlsbad Caverns.

    « Carlsbad caverns »

Great place to stay. Older hotel but very well taken care of. Pool area nice. breakfast area nice and clean. Even though it is a buffet breakfast wait staff very good and helpful Recommend this hotel for a good stay in Carlsbad. Central location to everything

« Very Pleased with our stay. »

I had made reservations for two nights for my wife, grandson, and myself several weeks in advance of our trip. We were there to visit the caverns. The motel is spread out around the central check-in, breakfast area. Not meaning all over the world meaning rooms not in one building. From our room the pet area (grassy areas is where I was told) was a short walk as was the pool. The room was nice although the shower-commode area was small rather tight. Room was clean with the exception of under the beds (they can be moved as they are on rollers) they needed a good vacuum put to it.. We found bottle caps, rubber bands, paper just to name some items. I normally do not notice these things. But our little Chihuahua was able to go under the bed and find them so out came the pet fence. It was the only motel that we stayed at we she was able to pull that stunt. It is a short turn into the front desk area from the main highway that leads to the caverns. There were several trucks that would go by but although our room was close to the highway we did not get awakened by them. Also only one time did a train disturb us (before we went to bed thankfully. All and all it is a nice place. It is a very short distance to a wonderful Chinese restaurant buffet ( I have a review on it) if you like that type of dining. Breakfast here is pretty good. Has hot breakfast as well as the cereal thing. The staff that does it was great and friendly. Would I stay here again yes I probably would.

    « Impressed »

Took grandkids to view Carlsbad Caverns. We were very satisfied with location and services provided. Room was above average. Staff professional and attentive. Breakfast was busy. Restaurant staff had to scramble a bit to keep up with the flow of patrons. Very satisfied.

« Nice rooms at an affordable price »

The outside of the hotel is a bit dated but the rooms were clean and updated. The grounds were also very clean and organized. For someone just passing through I would highly recommend this hotel. Also a very nice pool!

« Quite an impressive property »

I stayed here for 5 nights while servicing a wildfire operation nearby. My associate was working nights and needed a cool, quiet place to sleep during the day and this property was one of the best for that that we have experienced. Also, the breakfast buffet was BW typical, but a notch above the rest, with quick, professional table service. The on-site bar was a great place to watch a game and relax with the crew after the fire was over.

    « trip »

We have stayed in Best Western Motels in the past and have been very impressed with all the services and amenities. This trip was planned so that we could stay ev ery night in a Best Western Motel. The experiences were up to our expectations and the trip was excellent.

    « 5 star in my book »

If awesome service, amazing food and a great price are what you want in a hotel then Stevens Inn is a 5 star place. Hotels in Carlsbad NM are very expensive so I am glad I decided to stay at Steven Inn instead of the other chains. All staff members went beyond and above to deliver western hospitality. Their service was terrific and heartfelt. I left my special neck pillow and didn't realize it was left behind until I was home. The front desk quickly responded to my call and arranged to have the pillow sent to me. If that wasn't enough then consider the food at the onsite restaurant. First the breakfast had more items than most chains. There was scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy and pancakes on the hot buffet. The pancakes were the best I've had in years!!! The cold buffet had cereal, yogurt, bagels, muffins and fruit. They even had almond milk which I've never seen in a hotel. I have a hard time believing some of the bad reviews about the food. My dinner was 5 stars and I'm a foodie. I had one of the best meals I've ever had in New Mexico. The soup and salad bar was only $10 for all you can eat. I almost didn't order a dinner because the salad bar offered many choices but glad I ordered the chicken chipotle special (it should be on the menu). Even the loaf of bread was excellent. The room was very clean and beds were nice and soft. The rooms are not super big because this is an older motel but for 2 people it is not a problem for me. The wifi and flat screen TV worked. The is small but nice. This is an older facility which some may not like but for me this is exactly what I look for but often do not find. I highly recommend you check it out.

    « A bit worried! »

After reading the reviews of accommodations in the area and watching our budget, made reservations at the Stevens Inn. Knowing that we had already stayed in fabulous areas earlier in the week, it was OK to "rough it" in Carlsbad. Check in was easy even though we arrived at noon. Entering the room with little expectations, we were all very surprised at the roominess and decor of our room. Large, clean and nicely decorated. We even had a sliding door in the back right on to the pool. The grounds are very well groomed and clean. Breakfast was basic but hit the spot to start a day of traveling. For the nightly cost, this is certainly a great value and would recommend to all for a super location to stay while visiting the Park.

    « Great Experience »

We stayed her on our stop to Roswell NM. Apon arrival front desk was very polite & answered all questions we had. Price room was average. Room was very clean. Smelled nice to. Check all drawers & no trash very suprise. Bathroom was super clean. Very pleasant stay. No loud noises no lousy neighbors. Outdoor pool great. Especially for the heat. Pool was very clean. Only down side was there were other guests there whom had alcohol & were smoking. Didn't read any sign that this was not allowed. Beside this very great experience. Oh almost forgot WI-FI did not work. ??

    « Awesome hotel »

On a 21 day pleasure trip and Stevens was the best stay, by far. Awesome room ( room 600) is like a sweet with full kitchen and sitting room. Also had jacuzzi tub and separate shower. Large breakfast selection, and the best coffee in the room and in the restaurant. Convenient to Carlsbad Cavern

« Best Western Stevens Inn - needs help »

This would be an acceptable hotel if the restaurant and breakfasts were managed properly. The room, though dated was clean and the bed was comfortable. The restaurant food was not good and service lacked much to be desired. Cleanup for closing began 45 minutes early. strong cleaners were used in our immediate area. Breakfasts were poorly stocked.

« Reliable stay, good service, close to Carlsbad Caverns »

We have stayed at this hotel multiple times over the past 20 years, and this was our best stay. The hotel has been refurbished but has retained its classic western style. The staff is amazing and attends to details. We had a problem with our first room, but the problem was addressed and the matter was professionally handled. Additionally we liked the breakfasts, but loved the adjoining restaurant's dinner salad bar. We will definitely stay here again- very convenient when visiting the caverns and the surrounding area.

    « Problems »

After being assured the handicap access to swim pool was working, my wife got in to find out it was not and had never been used. They did not know how and the original battery was dead. The handicap room had it's own water heater that did not work! Staff was pleasant but did little to accommodate us. An older hotel that has maintenance problems.

« Fantastic room and pool »

We had a ground level floor with grass right outside and were Abe to park right outside our room. Very spacious room, room smelled clean and was very quiet, clean bathroom with window, shower head made showers nice, earth friendly products, pool conveniently located to room, breakfast was a bit too crowded though and they weren't prepared for a huge memorial weekend crowd for breakfast. We slept great. Would most certainly stay again!

« Three nights while we visited Carlsbad Caverns and the surrounding area »

Enjoyed our stay at the Best Western Stevens Inn. We had a room with two very comfortable queen sized beds. The shower was excellent and there is plenty of storage space. A full breakfast buffet was also good. I recommend this hotel highly.

    « Amazing room »

Decided to get to Carlsbad from Port Aransas (over 600 miles) and wanted a nice place to stay. Stopped here and fortunately they had a room with a king size bed. Kevin the front desk guy was a real very helpful and pleasant. Our room was very large and even had a loveseat in it. We were really pleased to discover that the shower and a message setting that really hit the spot after such a long day of driving. The inn is located on the south end of town which would make it convenient to the Caverns. Had a free breakfast buffett of hot foods plus other continental breakfast food. Good food.

    « Great stay »

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights and were very satisfied. Generous room, friendly front desk staff. We chose the hotel because of the proximity to the national parks in the area. Breakfast room was huge with the usual fare. A pleasant stay!

    « Great breakfast! »

We stayed here 3 nights while visiting Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe National Parks. The first night our AC unit was so loud we barely slept a wink. We told the front desk about it and they immediately moved us into another room. They have an amazing hot breakfast buffet and fresh baked cookies at the front desk all hours of the day. The room we stayed in (both) had been newly renovated and were very nice and clean. They have a very nice pool area which we did not use. They also have a nice bar attached to the hotel. Would definitely recommend.

    « Carlsbad nightmare »

Middle of the night plumbing leak flooded the entire room. We were given another, thank you, but no comp. or deal. Noises from bar crowd or party kept us up the rest of the night. Not a happy experience at all.

« Classic motor lodge nicely updated »

I love older hotels, especially when they are attentively updated. The Stevens Inn has great rooms that are well constructed and updated with modern furnishings and finishes. Lovely grounds and hearty breakfast. The hotel restaurant has a nice variety and everything I ate was very good.

« Great hotel, great location close to Caverns »

Stayed in an updated room. The best was so comfortable with great linens. Breakfast was complimentary buffet style. Super close to the Carlsbad Caverns. There is also a hotel bar that we didn't get to try. Highly recommend

    « Perfect »

We stayed here before going to Carlsbad Caverns, and we were very pleased. It was furnished with everything we could want. There was a nice outdoor pool, laundry facilities, a complimentary hot breakfast in the restaurant, and chocolate chip cookies at the desk. The man working at the desk did not give us a senior discount, but the woman working the morning shift did. We were very pleased and would recommend staying here.

    « Dated but Comfortable »

This is an older facility but they have kept it clean and comfortable. Our rooms were large and furniture up to date. It is right on the road and we requested quiet rooms. We were behind the units facing the road and it was quiet enough. The breakfast is a typical buffet and was okay.

    « not pleasant »

Arrived at the hotel after midnight. The front desk staff was not friendly or accomodating - she even scared my grandson! At 6 in the morning, the maintenance man started towing/dragging the trash cans making loud noises around the hotel.

« great place to stay »

we were very happy with the best western and they have become one of our favorite places to stay. We have never been disappointed and would highly recommond any best western to people traveling. thanks

    « Excellent »

Great facilities (campus) All around excellent experience. The best in all the 9 B/W hotels this trip. Great food. Professional attendants. Great value for the price. We will certainly recommend this hotel to anyone. pleasant surrounding. The grounds keepers deserve a salute. Even the birds are happy in the trees.

    « Pretty avarge »

The rooms were perfectly good and the grounds well kept. The attached restaurant served pretty good dinner menus. However the hotel was spot by the dreadful breakfasts I know these are complimentary so I am not expecting fine dining but in many trips to the USA I can never remember breakfasts quite as poor as this . The food was badly presented tired and sign of any fresh fruit on the second morning there were no yogurts when I asked a server said " we are out of them " . The next morning still no yogurts there is a supermarket next door perhaps someone could have purchased them. Frankly the staff serving breakfast just wanted to clear up as quickly as possible . Someone should be managing this situation. Anyone who checks my views will see they are usually positive but on this occasion I had to write a poor one. I love the standard of service I usually receive in the USA but this fell far below an acceptable standard

« Decent stay for Carlsbad Cavern trip »

This was good place to stay at during a family AZ & NM roadtrip. We could hear that there was a little bit of traffic in the morning but this really wasn't an issue as we we needed to wake-up early anyway to head to the National Park. The hotel (as almost all of them in this area) is just off the main road/highway.

    « nice »

newly remodeled, very nice comfy king bed....helpful staff nice place to stay good food at the restaurant hotel is more modern now i will be back ....keep up the good work yall are doing a fantastic job.....out door pool is nice and well maintained didn't get to swim but maybe next time :)

« Oil and Gas Industry we got you! »

A nice place to stay, a large property, so you are almost always guaranteed an upgrade on check in. Breakfast becomes monotonous after 5 days, need to mix it up a bit. Staff are always ready to take care of issues, and are genuinely nice people. My preferred location in Carlsbad, NM.

    « Satisfied Customer »

BW Stevens Inn fit the bill for our adventure to Carlsbad Caverns. My wife and I as well as my son and his wife are certainly satisfied customers. We have no complaints. For the price the rooms were perfectly fine. The lobby, restaurant and the lounge were definitely better than many hotels of similar value. The breakfast, likewise, was better than what many hotels offer. I would rate my satisfaction with staff as well as the hotel overall as very good to excellent for the reasonable value we paid for our stay at Stevens Inn.

    « Workers outnumber tourists »

Carlsbad is located in an active part of the "oil patch". It is also a center of potash chemical mining. Between them these industries and their support services seem to employ a lot of people who need accommodation wherever they can find it and that includes this hotel. Tourists looking for a stopover before visiting the world famous nearby deep caverns probably take second place, although to be fair, we visited at a time that was not the height of the tourist season. In any case the large outdoor swimming pool here was in the process of being filled and was unavailable. By the time we awoke next morning at 8 am, the parking lot, which had been jammed the previous evening, was almost entirely empty. The beds were comfortable but the selection of TV channels was meager and there was little of interest nearby that would invite walking. The hotel seems to date from the about the 1970s and it could stand some modernization though there is nothing objectionable about it either.

« Clean room, excellent food. »

Two queen beds, large room, desk, updated nicely. Had the AYCE salad and soup bar ($10)...huge selection on bar, 2 choices for soup. Breakfast was excellent, as well. Scrambled eggs, sausage, home biscuits, juice, etc. Waitstaff for coffee, fruit. Very classy. $120 w senior rate including taxes. Friendly staff. Would stay again.

« Nice stay in a very convenient location »

A nice, clean room and the breakfast was a full buffet breakfast. The biscuits and gravy were great. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Great location that is close to restaurants and it is right on the way to the Caverns.

« Decent room for an exterior access hotel »

The hotel indicated we had a room in the 'new section', as the hotel is a series of low buildings with two stories and exterior access rooms. We were in the building farthest from the restaurant The room was large with 2 queens and two sinks outside the bath/toilet room -- convenient for a party of 4. They had a decent sized fridge and microwavte in the room. We were above the fitness room at the end of the building, but heard no noise from the room below. Breakfast was well appointed and included a hot breakfast bar with eggs and sausage and biscuits but repeated the hot items 2 days in a row. They also had hot oatmeal (premade) fruit, small yogurts, pastries and a series of beverages in pitchers versus 'soda' dispensers which was nice. The breakfast area was attended by multiple wait staff ready to get your coffee or condiments. It was a bit of a walk outdoors to get to the restaurant had the weather been bad (it was clear). The front desk attendants were very nice and they had chocolate chip cookies on hand for weary travelers all day as far as we could surmise. There is an outdoor pool which we did not use. It is an older building but well maintained and clean. There is a full restaurant on site which we did not visit, but it looked like a fine choice if you didn't want to leave the premises.

    « Clean and comfortable »

I enjoyed my stay here. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. I had no complaints. I had never stayed at a hotel where you can park directly outside the room. This was nice, and the area was not noisy. The room smelled clean, and I liked that there was a small fridge and microwave in the room.

« Best Hotel in a week of hotel stays »

This was the best experience out of all the hotels we stayed in over the past week of our road trip. It was better than the airbnb, Extended Stay America, and Ojo Caliente if you don't count the hot water mineral pools. It was clean, spacious, quiet, and had plenty of room amenities like refrigerator, microwave, and toiletries.

    « Aweful city »

The hotel is way over priced due to the oil industry workers that have to stay somewhere. This city, I'm sure, has big tourism traffic that is being put in second place to these oil workers. Hotel was old, repaired bad, not clean, and to top it off, OVERPRICED! I'm glad I stayed for business and not for say a visit to the caverns or I would have been really pissed. Only stay if you have too, maybe oil will taper off soon and the owner will have to cater to the tourist again.

    « Very impressed »

My husband and I were very impressed with this hotel. The room we had ($107/night with a AAA discount) was very large, clean, and quiet. We don't normally eat at hotel restaurant, but decided to eat at this one and were very pleasantly surprised at the quality and reasonable price. It is in a good location, with the highway easy to get on and off and several other eating places within easy walking distance.

    « Enjoyed the stay »

Check in was a breeze, the staff friendly and informative. After getting into the room, was surprised to see an actual refrigerator/freezer with a stove and microwave in the kitchen area. Had a good workstation to do my computing on and large enough to eat on as well. Plenty of electrical to charge phones/computers/etc with. The bed was comfortable. Heating/AC unit worked well with no complaints. Bathroom had a Jacuzzi in it, but didn't find the switch to operate so didn't use. Shower configuration was odd as there was a 2nd drain outside of the shower unit which came in handy since maintenance put the curved shower curtain too far inside the shower making it extremely difficult to maneuver or bathe without water flying outside of the curtain and into the extra drain. I was also surprised that with all the contractors there that they didn't back up breakfast time to accommodate those that had to leave before their 6am open time (saw many trucks gone early in the morning) so I also didn't get a change to try their meals. But the place is quiet and relaxing and I look forward to returning if in the area again.

« Good value but dated »

All hotels in Carlsbad were more expensive than we would have expected in a small New Mexico town; we paid less for better in Albuquerque. This hotel was dated but clean and the room and bathroom were large and included a kitchen. Better than average hotel breakfast was included making this overall a good value.

    « Marginal »

While the hotel was quiet and the room was spacious I stayed in rm 537 and the was missing a burner and there was zero yes I said zero weather stripping around the door. By far this is not a gem. Not sure if the reviews stating its mainly 1 story it's mainly 2 story.COMPLETELY EXTERIOR ENTRANCE . No elevator the jetted tub has stains at the water outlets. The shower has the rod so far in an avg person can hardly fit in the shower. Staff was very nice and said I was in there nicest suites, if this is the nicest I would hate to see a reg room. Hope the picture tell the story

    « Well Managed Property »

All the previous negative comments for this property on TripAdvisor were addressed by the General Manager of the property and as he states on the website, the WiFi works well and if there are issues there is a 24/7 support desk. Also they were adding to the appearance of the hotel during our stay with decorative brickwork to enhance what is already a lovely property. Definitely visit the Blue Cactus Lounge for dinner!

    « Traveling to Tucson Year 2 »

Motel was a gem to find. We traveled through the oil fields of Texas to get to Carlsbad-purpose was to visit the Caverns. Did not expect such a motel after travelling thru the oil fields. It is mostly a one story motel, which we like. it is pet friendly, which we like. It had restaurants and bar on premise, which we like. Motel is clean, updated, and central location.

« Older property but very well maintained and up to date. »

We reserved an accessible room. This was by far the best laid out room for accessibility that we have ever stayed in. The room was large, on the ground floor and an easy walk to the restaurant. My only complaint with the room was the bathroom floor was very slippery when wet. It was very clean but it looked like what they are cleaning it with leaves a film which when it gets wet from the shower, becomes very slippery, which is hazardous! Otherwise, it was a great experience. We will definitely stay there again!

    « Expensive »

I checked in the hotel with a younger male front desk employee - took him 45 seconds to check me in and did not tell me anything about the hotel. The Lounge which does serve food - charges a $50 deposit just to sit. I have to check my bank account as they said that they were going to refund it the deposit after I paid for an over priced meal. the hotel is older and way over priced. $190 for one person one night.

« Christmas on the Pecos »

The staff here were amazing. So friendly and helpful. I will stay here next time in Carlsbad. Our room was clean and comfortable. I forgot my ticket to the boat ride at the check in counter and the staff hunted me down to make sure I had it back before the ride. The wait staff at breakfast helped me with getting my Aunt breakfast because she did not feel like leaving the room. Loved my stay.

« clean quiet, billing was terrible »

the hotel, was clean and very quiet, surprising, checking in and out, having front desk answer the phone terrible (internet service was terrible as well). it took a long time to check in, when I went to check out, I was told they couldn't give me a bill. I was checking out early morning, i was told they couldn't give me a bill until morning. i was told i would be emailed a receipt ... i had to call in repeatedly, i gave every staff member (including mgnt) my email address and had them read it back to me. 2 weeks later still no receipt i wrote into best western rewards, when i called back again, the front desk staff sai they knew who i was bc i was the person who complained to best western, it still took 4 more phone calls to get a bill emailed to me

« HIgh price for the quality »

Well, at the time the oil boom was in full bloom, and prices seemed high for the quality of the hotel. Look online to see if you can match and/or beat the price at a Hampton or a Holiday Inn. The rooms were ok; nothing fancy. We did enjoy the pool; it was large and had plenty of chairs and tables. The laundry mat could use some additional washer machines and dryers.

« They forgot about the mattress! »

Nice hotel, nice rooms, good breakfast, free cookies; but for $170/night I expect to have a mattress that has not collapsed. Check your mattress first thing for problems. The WiFi was nonexistent and the TV/remote sub par.

« Selected as visiting Carlsbad caves »

Made a good choice. Stayed two nights as had had to make a long drive to get here and go on to our next stay. Convenient location and restaurant on site was a bonus. We ate there both nights for dinner and enjoyed both meals. It was great to be able to have a drink on site with the meal, but we did not go to the Blue Cactus Lounge as too tired to stay up. Their home made Clam Chowder was an unexpected treat one night. We had asked for a quiet room and were a bit concerned when we checked in as had a room not far from the entrance in the single story part and there were several bid construction vehicles parked up. However we were not disturbed at all. The room was larger than expected. Being really picky - some of the furniture was a bit dated and the towels could have been bigger and softer, but there were plenty to use. They are updating rooms I think. The pool was a bit cool and there is no spa but it a pleasant area. The staff were very pleasant & helpful and overall an enjoyable stay. Would stay here again if in the area.

« Nice room for the area »

The room was comfortable and clean. We like to connect our laptop to the TV to Hulu/Netflix ect. This ability was disabled on the TV.There was an oddly worded note by the TV that I believe said this was intentional, but i don't know why. We have been on a extended road trip, and this was one of the more expensive Best Westerns we have stayed at. It was fairly priced from what I saw of other Carlsbad motels. but have stayed at nicer Best Westerns in other places for less money.

    « beautiful »

very clean and beautiful. me and my family really enjoyed our stay here. the staff is extremely nice and helpful. if i am ever in Carlsbad new Mexico. i will definitely stay here again. And recommend any body to this beautiful location. thank you to all the staff

« Aged but well persevered »

Aged but well preserved. Built probably in the 60s or 70s, they have kept it up so it doesn't have that old feeling. New furniture, fixtures and decor. One saggy soft bed bed one firm bed, queens. You can tell its old with the vaulted ceilings, water damage behind the toilet, layers of paint & overall property design. Lots of oil workers staying here. It's an oil boom town with a lot of out of state (Texas) plates on many many pickups. A couple of them got a little loud the first night and management, instead of asking them to quiet down, called the police at 1 AM. So we were all apologetic the next morning, both sides. There is some remodeling and painting going on but didn't inconvenience us. We didn't use the pool. Breakfast buffet was good, hot or cold. Not sure we ate in the right cafe. We had tickets but no one asked for them, leading us to wonder if we had the right cafe. Right as we walked out, a pan of sausages hit the deck, boom. People very nice. Two nights.

« OK room but low value »

Accomodations were OK, very typical for a BW motel, but cost was higher than most of the other places we stayed. That would be alright if there were some other reason for the higher price. This was Carlsbad NM in the offseason. I did not see any other reason for the relatively higher price.

    « OK hotel »

We booked this hotel because of the restaurant and breakfast buffet. Unfortunately, the restaurant is closed for dinner on Sundays, which is when we stayed. There were quite a few options at the breakfast buffet - scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes, potatoes, cereal, breads, pastries, whole fruit, juices and coffee, and the staff was friendly and attentive. The food was okay. The rooms are large. The bed was comfortable. 1950's rooms are updated with some cabinets, granite and tub insert. The fridge and microwave came in handy.

    « Nice and Peaceful »

I really in joyed stay at the Best Western Rooms were clean and it was nice and Peaceful at night If I am ever in Carlsbad again I will stay at the Best Western it very convenient having the restaurant and bar there at the hotel

« Not A Bad Price for Labor Day Weekend »

Stayed here one night on the way to another destination during the Labor Day Weekend. The rooms are all updated but it is obvious this place has been here since the 50's or 60's. That is what give it the charm that it has. For me it was like going back in time with modern conveniences. It is laid out like a motel back in the 50's. Doors open out to the parking lot but it looks very safe. The rooms were very large and beds were comfy. Breakfast was okay but standard continental breakfast like everyone provides.

    « Ouch »

Very nice from the outside. AC didn't cool the room. There was an 8" piece of angle iron, part of the bed frame, sticking out from the inside of the bed and covered by the sham. Out of site until contact was made with the shin bone. OUCH!
